It’s no secret that Nicolas Cage has had a very public love life over the years. From getting married in Las Vegas to opening up about dating Sarah Jessica Parker, the Academy Award-winning actor has been in the public eye a lot. Have you heard about throwing a $65,000 engagement ring off a yacht after getting in a fight with the daughter of the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll?”

Well, that’s what happened, according to Priscilla Presley in her 2025 memoir Softly as I Leave You: Life After Elvis. In her new book, Elvis’ former wife opened up about the time Cage and Lisa Marie Presley got into a heated argument during their tumultuous relationship that resulted in a scene that played out like one of Cage's more ridiculous movies.

Those of us who were around and followed tabloids in the early 2000s remember the intense on-and-off relationship between the Hollywood star and his famous fiancée, not to mention their eventual celebrity breakup. Regardless, this particular story is new to me, and it’s blowing my mind. So, after reading about this fight that resulted in a ring that cost more than most people’s annual salary going to the bottom of the ocean, I just have to know what happened next.

As Presley put it, Cage regretted his decision and went to great lengths in an attempt to find the missing hardware. He even went as far as to hire a team of divers to search the area off the California coast, but the searches turned up nothing. Presley added:

Though the $65,000 six-carat ring was never seen again, Cage didn’t waste any time at all obtaining a replacement. A couple of days later, he not only bought Lisa Marie Presley a new ring, but he also got her an even bigger ring, this one having a ten-carat diamond.

The couple would eventually get married, but the relationship wasn’t meant to be, and they went their separate ways after a 2004 divorce. When looking back on the episode, Presley made it seem like it best illustrated her daughter and former son-in-law’s testy relationship:

Though it seemed like the pair had a heated and testy relationship, it didn’t stop the National Treasure actor from paying tribute to his ex following Presley’s death in 2023.

Lisa Marie Presley’s death at 54 in 2023 prompted a wave of tributes from those who knew and admired the sole child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. After her passing, Lisa Marie was also honored by her daughter, Riley Keough, along with other family members. The Presley family has since sought to move forward after losing the “Sinking In” performer. Now, Priscilla is getting candid, sharing what her final moments with her daughter were like. With that, the matriarch is discussing her decision to take Lisa Marie off life support.

80-year-old Priscilla Presley spoke about her daughter during an interview with People. When reflecting on Lisa Marie’s death two years later, Priscilla referred to it as the “second saddest day” of her life “other than losing Elvis.” It was Lisa Marie’s ex-husband, Danny Keough, who discovered her unresponsive in her home, and he eventually called Priscilla to meet him at the hospital. Priscilla recalled to the news outlet what the situation was like when she arrived and how the news of her daughter’s status was delivered to her:

Lisa Marie Presley was hospitalized following a cardiac episode shortly before her death. An autopsy that was later conducted after her death, and it was ruled that the singer-songwriter died due to a small bowel obstruction that developed as a result of a bariatric surgery she had years earlier. Before Lisa Marie passed, Priscilla was faced with the choice of whether to take her off life support, and the mother of two explained that comments from the doctor were what informed her decision:

A memorial service was later held for Lisa Marie Presley at the family’s estate in Graceland. It was during the ceremony that Priscilla read a message that was written by one of her granddaughters. Ben Smith-Petersen, Riley Keough’s husband, also read a speech on his wife’s behalf, which memorialized the late star in a touching way.

In time, though, a legal battle was set in motion after Priscilla Presley contested her late daughter’s will. Presley specifically took issue with an amendment that named Riley and Benjamin Keough as the co-trustees in place of herself and Lisa Marie’s former business manager, Barry Siegel. Around that time, Priscilla released a statement in which she conveyed her devotion to her family. What followed, however, was a back-and-forth between her and Riley. The two eventually settled the matter, with Riley later saying they’d moved past that family “chaos.”

During her recent interview with People, Priscilla Presley said that grappling with Lisa Marie’s death “hasn’t been easy at all” for her. Nevertheless, she’s looking to “find strength,” and I hope she and her family members are able to do just that as time moves forward.

Collective Soul has a new retrospective documentary out on Blu-ray and video on demand, and the film centers around the recording of their 2024 effort, Here to Eternity, which took place at Elvis Presley’s Palm Springs house in late 2022 and early 2023. As it happens, the band was there when the news broke that Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie, died in January 2023.

Turpin told me Lisa Marie’s presence was very much felt that day..

‘It Never Rains In Palm Springs’

January 12th, 2023, was a tragic day for the Presley Family and their fans. Lisa Marie was only 54 when she died from a bowel obstruction, a side effect of bariatric surgery, leaving behind four children, including her daughter Riley Keough. Many Elvis fans had followed Lisa Marie’s entire life, from her birth to Elvis and Pricilla in 1968, through the end, and her death came as a real shock to everyone.

At Elvis’ Palm Springs house, where Collective Soul was laying down the tracks of their new album, they had set up the control room for the recording in Lisa Marie’s childhood bedroom. On the fateful day, Turpin explained, it rained, which is rare in the high desert of California. He said of the day,

A gloomy day in Palm Springs was like an omen for the band. Not a bad omen necessarily, but a sign to the musicians that Lisa Marie’s presence was felt. Turpin said of the surprise storm,

Fortunately for the band and those working with them to make the record, what could have been a disaster resulted in a happy and almost heartfelt ending. If it was Lisa Marie's spirit hovering about, she wasn't upset about her childhood bedroom being used as a studio.

Water And Recording Equipment Is A Bad Combo, But Again, Lisa Marie Was There With Them

When you hear something about a leak in a control room, one that had, according to Turpin, never appeared in the bedroom before, would be a recipe for disaster, as water and electrical equipment obviously don’t mix. However, Lisa Marie’s presence was again felt when the expensive equipment was spared. As Turpin explained,

Lisa Marie Presley was not only the daughter of a musician, but she was also married to a couple, Michael Jackson and producer Michael Lockwood. She also recorded three albums of her own, so she would never want to ruin a great session!

Recording In Elvis’ House Sounds Like Quite An Amazing Experience

According to the documentary, this was the first time a band had recorded in Elvis Presley’s desert house, other than The King himself. The house has been preserved as closely to how it was when the current owner bought it. Turpin was amazed by all the little things that were still there from when Elvis last hung out there, almost 50 years ago. Not only was some of the plush bright red carpet still there, and other things that reminded him of Graceland in Memphis, but one bit of security, over the jacuzzi in back, was still there. Turpin says,

Apparently, Presley had the cover put over the jacuzzi to avoid this in the future, and it was all still there, as Turpin told me,

This might not be the kind of story his wife, Priscilla, whose own story was recently told on screen in the excellent movie directed by Sofia Coppola, would want to hear, but she must be used to hearing stories about her late husband hanging out with cheerleaders, right?

Elvis Was Never A Direct Influence On Collective Soul, But He Is Still The King

When I asked about Elvis and his impact on Collective Soul, Turpin explained that being from Georgia, you can’t help by at least be indirectly influenced,

Of course, when you’re in the rock and roll business, Elvis is never that far from what you do. Even if The King isn’t a direct influence on many bands these days, or even in the ‘90s, you don’t have to go back too far to find some aspect of a band’s music that points to the first true rock star, as Turpin explains about his bandmates Ed and Dean Roland,

Elvis also dabbled in gospel music, so it makes sense that he would be one of the few rock stars the Roland brothers' preacher father would allow in the house. While Elvis himself might not have been a direct influence, the impact of spiritual music in general is obvious in Collective Soul's work.

Three Decades Later, It All Came Full Circle

Benjamin Keough, who Lisa Marie Presley shared with ex-husband Danny Keough, died by suicide at the age of 27. In her newly published book, From Here to the Great Unknown, the late Presley chronicled the aftermath of Benjamin’s unfortunate passing. It was during that portion of the book that she revealed that she opted to keep her son’s body in her home. Presley revealed (via Us Weekly) the exact part of her home in which she kept the body and explained how she was able to organize such an arrangement:

According to police reports, Ben Keough died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The “I Love You Because” singer’s exact reason for holding onto her son’s body is unclear. However, based on what she wrote in the book, she was well aware of the abnormality of the circumstances. The “You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet” added the following sentiments:

Via her book, Lisa Marie Presley also revealed that she had a tattoo artist come to her abode so that he could give her ink matching her son’s. Riley Keough – Presley and Danny’s daughter, who finished the new memoir – also commented on that. The Zola actress recalled the surreal nature of the situation and said that her mother felt as though Ben was speaking to her in a way. Riley continued to say that after the tattoo session, her mom “got the vibe” that Ben should be buried. He was indeed eventually laid to rest in Malibu.

Speculation regarding the life and death of Lisa Marie Presley has continued since her passing. Presley, who reportedly used opioids around the time of her death, was ultimately laid to rest in Graceland, with Riley Keough overseeing the arrangements and becoming the sole owner and trustee of the aforementioned mansion in Tennessee. Shortly after her mother’s death, Keough paid tribute and did so once more six months later. On that second occasion, she honored Benjamin as well.

It’s fair to say that we all find different ways to process our grief when it comes to mourning loved ones. Priscilla formally contested her daughter’s will, as she questioned the authenticity of an amendment made to it in 2016. It stipulated that Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s former business manager, Barry Siegel, would be replaced by daughter Riley Keough and son Benjamin Keough, who passed away at 27 in 2020, as co-trustees of the will. Priscilla’s suit stated that the provision was “allegedly signed by Lisa Marie” and supposedly included a misspelling of the Presley matriarch’s name. The trust at the center of the lawsuit was valued at $35 million. 

Amid the legal dispute, Priscilla Presley released a statement, in which she conveyed her desire to “protect” her three grandchildren and “keep our family together.” The proceedings between herself and her actress granddaughter seemed contentious for a while but, by May, they reportedly reached a settlement that both parties seemed to be satisfied with. In recent days, Riley Keough was revealed to have been named the sole owner of her mom’s estate. After explaining that “clarity has been had” amongst her relatives, she confirmed her relationship with her grandmother is still a positive one: 

That sentiment somewhat matches up with previous reports about the Mad Max: Fury Road alum’s feelings following the court drama. Sources indicated that she was relieved to have finally settled with Priscilla Presley. It’s great to hear that she and her grandmother will seemingly still have a mostly pleasant bond moving forward.

It’s likely that Riley Keough and co. are still navigating life without Lisa Marie Presley, but it sounds like they can lean on each other during this time. Hopefully, they’re all able to enjoy peace and find strength in one another.

Six months after her mother’s death, the Daisy Jones & The Six actress took to social media to make a heartwarming tribute to her mother and brother.

It's been a week for Riley Keough. This week, the actress nominated for her work in Daisy Jones and The Six. The show itself earned a whopping nine Emmy nominations, including one for the actress herself in the Lead Role in the Limited Series capacity.

However, news also broke about her mother's cause of death as the anniversary of her passing occurred. Amidst all of this going on in her personal and professional life, the actress made a tribute to her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, and her brother Benjamin, posting a throwback image on her Instagram story. As you can see, this photo was taken back when Benjamin Keough was a child posing with a goofy look behind his mother who was all smiles (and probably had no idea her kid was messing around behind her). The caption in the photo says “Missing you both.”

Lisa Marie Presley’s last public appearance was at the 80th Golden Globe Awards to honor the biopic Elvis that she felt celebrated her father well. Sadly, she suffered a cardiac episode and was transported to the hospital two days later and passed away that day. 

TMZ also reported yesterday that Presley's autopsy results found her cause of death to be from a small bowel obstruction due to complications from bariatric surgery she did years ago. She was laid to rest near her “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” father at Graceland and her son, Benjamin. Tributes also poured in from celebrities like Leah Remini, Nic Cage, and Rita Wilson who sent out their sweet words to the late singer/songwriter. 

Previously, tragedy struck both Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough when Benjamin Keough died from a self-inflicted gunshot on July 12, 2020, at the age of 27. According to People, his friends said he battled with depression after feeling pressure from society to succeed in the entertainment industry with such a famous name. Presley herself had shared an essay about the grief she'd felt for several years before her own untimely passing. 

It's seemingly been a week of remembrance for Riley Keough, but it's nice to have old family photos to look back on. Our thoughts go out to her this week.   

It would be an understatement Lisa Marie Presley’s tragic death at age 54 earlier this year had a serious impact on her family. They eventually came together as a family to lay her to rest in Graceland not far from her famous father, Elvis. However, shortly after, Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, and mother, Priscilla, engaged in a legal battle over her trust. Things seemed contentious for a while but, ultimately, both sides reached a settlement. It would appear that we now have some additional information on the terms of the deal. Most interestingly, newly surfaced legal documents indicate the matriarch of the family was asked to drop her petition for what’s been referred to as an undisclosed sum. 

This entire legal debacle was initiated by a signed document filed in 2016, which stipulated that Priscilla Presley would be removed as one of the co-trustees of her daughter’s will. She reportedly had an issue with this and as a result, chose to contest the decision with a petition worth $35 million. When it comes to her reasoning for taking that course of action, Presley said that she was looking to “protect” Riley Keough and her other two grandchildren and ultimately “keep our family together.” 

The settlement news was reported weeks ago, but the deal was officially approved by the Daisy Jones & The Six star on Monday, according to THR. Under this new agreement, the actress will serve as the sole trustee of Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. As for Priscilla, the trade didn’t specify her compensation for no longer contesting the “authenticity and validity” of the aforementioned amendment. This could be an indication, however, that she’s receiving a considerable amount of cash. Such a notion lines up with previous reports that indicated that she’d be walking away with a lot of money following the settlement. Not only that, but she’s also now permitted to be buried alongside her husband in Graceland. That's rather significant since that request was previously denied by her granddaughter.

Based on the information presented, it would seem the dissolution of this estate battle could end up being beneficial for both parties. The filing even mentions that the two sides are set to save a significant amount of money in legal fees: 

Priscilla Presley released a statement shortly after the settlement was reported to have been reached. While speaking out, she sought to point out a mistake that she believes the public made while analyzing the situation. Presley asserted that she never filed a “lawsuit” against her granddaughter. Riley Keough, for her part, hasn’t released too many statements on the matter. Sources did claim that the back-and-forth was wearing on her and, in the aftermath, it was said that Keough was “relieved” to have finalized everything. 

So all in all, it would appear that the legal drama between the members of the Presley/Keough family has now come to an end. Details like the exact sum Priscilla is receiving likely won’t be made public, and the lawyers for her and her granddaughter aren’t commenting. But if anything, this resolution will now seemingly allow the famous brood to move on with their lives.

Even if this wasn’t technically a lawsuit, it seemed quite clear that tensions were running high in the Presley family. The fact that Lisa Marie’s estate was at the center of any form of legal dispute between her mother and daughter certainly didn’t look great. Reports were that Keough was particularly upset by the fact that her grandmother was disputing the will. 

While a settlement has been reached between Presley and Keough, the exact details of it are being kept under wraps. What has been said is that both sides are happy with the settlement, although it is being reported that Priscilla’s request to be buried next to Elvis at Graceland when she herself passes away, was denied by Riley Keough’s lawyers. Still, Priscilla says that now that everything is resolved her family is even stronger. She continued…

One certainly hopes this is true and family of Lisa Marie can now move forward together following her tragic death.

Following Lisa Marie’s death in January, Priscilla and Keough have been battling over her trust, and apparently, on top of the money, Elvis’ ex-wife also wanted to be buried next to him. TMZ reported the news, and also pointed out that the King of Rock ‘n Roll is buried in Graceland, and his mother and father are buried on either side of him. So, if Priscilla wants a gravesite next to her ex-husband, logistically, that’d be a major challenge. She told the publication:

While Priscilla was denied this request, sources close to the situation also said since it was a non-starter, she backed off without much pushback. 

Overall, Priscilla Presley is getting an impressive settlement for dropping her claim regarding the control of her daughter’s trust. The trust includes Graceland and a stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, and she had been battling with Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley Keough over it for months.

As this legal battle came to a close, and Priscilla settled the deal, her attorney explained that “everyone is happy, unified, together and excited for the future.” Also, while she didn’t get the burial site she wanted, Elvis’ ex-wife is reportedly walking away with millions because of this settlement. Justin Gold, Riley Keough’s attorney, also explained that the Daisy Jones and The Six star is also “very content” with the agreement, noting that she wouldn’t have agreed to it if it wasn’t the ideal outcome. 

The Presley family faced a great loss in January when Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s only child together, Lisa Marie Presley, died at the age of 54 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Shortly after Lisa Marie’s death, it was reported that her mother filed to contest her daughter’s will in a $35 million petition after it apparently named Lisa Marie Presley’s oldest daughter Riley Keough as the sole beneficiary of her estate. The dispute has now been settled. 

Back in February, reports claimed that Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough were “not talking” amidst the legal action, and the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley has apparently felt “disappointed” in her grandmother for challenging her mother’s will and wishes amidst the tragedy. As a court hearing in Los Angeles on Tuesday settled an agreement regarding Priscilla’s petition, her attorney shared “everyone is happy, unified, together and excited for the future.” And per TMZ, Priscilla could be walking away with millions thanks to the settlement. 

We don’t know the exact amount Priscilla Presley negotiated as not openly discussed in court, but Riley Keough’s attorney, Justin Gold, told CNN the actress is “very content” with how the settlement shook out. Gold also said that Keough “would not have agreed to the settlement if she was not happy with it.” The estate reportedly includes the Graceland mansion and a 15% stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, which reportedly was worth $110 million in 2022, per People. 

The next hearing regarding the Presley estate has been set for August 4, where the motion of approval will take place. Priscilla’s argument regarding the will had to do with a 2016 amendment to the will that left her and Lisa Marie’s former business manager out of her estate. She questioned many specifics of the document and found her daughter’s signature to be “inconsistent” with her “usual and customary signature” on the amendment. 

Lisa Marie Presley died just a couple days after she and Priscilla Presley appeared at the Golden Globes, where Austin Butler won for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Elvis. Both of them were supportive of Butler’s performance. During the lawsuit, Riley Keough found herself playing a musical at the center of the Daisy Jones & The Six series, which those with an Amazon Prime subscription can watch. Apparently amidst the press for the series, the lawsuit was taking a toll on Keough, who was reportedly “heartbroken” and “very stressed” about the whole situation.  

It couldn’t have been easy for the Presley family to deal with issues with Lisa Marie Presley’s will while also grieving the loss of her. Following a settlement being reached, it sounds like the family has mended their grievances, and perhaps can continue to move forward together. 

Just a few months ago things were looking wonderful for the family of Elvis Presley. The King of Rock and Roll was the subject of a new glossy biopic and the film and its performances are up for numerous awards. Then tragedy struck last month when Lisa Marie, the daughter of Elvis Presley died of cardiac arrest. Now her family is fighting over he will and tensions do not appear to be dying down anytime soon.

Riley and Priscilla are very much on opposite sides of this and the final decision will determine who has control of Lisa Marie's estate, so this is not a small issue. 

Priscilla is questioning the validity of the signature on the document that made Riley the trustee of the estate. She also claims she never saw the document until after her daughter’s death, which was in violation of the rules of the trust at that time.

We’ve seen comments like this from sources close to the family previously. Certainly, the death of Priscilla’s daughter and Riley’s mother would be the sort of event that would bring them closer together, but unfortunately this hasn’t been the case. Other sources have claimed that this issue is taking a toll on Riley, who simply wants to fulfill her mother’s wishes, during a period when she’s still dealing with her mother’s death. Now the legal battle is just adding to the stress. 

At some point, a court will rule on the document at issue. Once that happens we can assume things will try to go back to normal, but the bigger question may be what will happen to the family at that point. No matter how the court rules there will be one side that is left unhappy by the result. This could ultimately cause a rift between grandmother and granddaughter that takes a long time to be repaired, assuming it ever is repaired at all. 

It’s been a “very tense and heartbreaking few weeks” for both Riley Keough and Priscilla Presley following the death of Lisa Marie Presley, and especially now that the two are in a legal battle. While this should be a celebratory time for Keough as her highly anticipated show Dasiy Jones and the Six is set to premiere soon on the 2023 TV schedule, this ongoing legal matter with her grandmother is reportedly taking a toll. 

In the days following Keough paying tribute to her mother after her tragic death, it was revealed that she’s also been dealing with a legal battle as Pricilla Presley contests her daughter’s will. ET spoke with a source who claims to be aware of how the Dasiy Jones and the Six star is doing, and explained: 

This can’t be an easy time for Keough, losing a family member is never easy and when the courts get involved it becomes even more complex. This is also coming in the month leading up to the release of her new show Daisy Jones and the Six, where she plays the titular character. 

While it’s a bummer that this situation is apparently taking a toll on her, having the series to look forward to as well as her daughter and husband to support her must help raise her spirits a bit. However, the source made it clear Keough is very stressed about this trust situation, and is not pleased with it becoming a public matter, explaining: 

The source continued by saying the two are preparing to go to court over the trust. The document in question says Keough and her 14-year-old twin siblings Harper and Finley will get Graceland. It also became known that the actress and her late brother Benjamin were named co-trustees of Lisa Marie’s trust in 2016, and now Priscilla is now contesting the validity of the trust. 

I’d imagine mourning her mother and dealing with this legal battle is making it hard for Keough to celebrate her new show. However, as the quote said, hopefully, the premiere of Daisy Jones and the Six and spending time with her new family can help the actress find some light during this difficult time.

The death of Lisa Marie Presley has set off a legal battle between the late singer’s estate and her mother Priscilla Presley. The former wife of Elvis is contesting the will of her daughter, claiming that a document might not be authentic. While Priscilla, has claimed she is trying to keep her family together, the daughter of Lisa Marie is reportedly now at odds with her grandmother and “disappointed” in the current state of affairs.

Under the current terms of the last will of Lisa Marie Presley, her daughter Riley Keough is to act as trustee of the estate. However, it’s the signature on a 2016 document that transferred trusteeship from Priscilla to Riley that Priscilla Presley is currently contesting. This will almost certainly lead to a legal conflict inside the Presley family, which a source tells ET is disappointing to Riley as she simply wants to fulfill her mother’s wishes.

While a statement from Priscilla Presley following her decision to contest the will stated a desire to keep the family together, the source claims that Riley sees her grandmother’s actions as doing precisely the opposite. The source also says that Riley and Priscilla are not currently close, but Riley is interested in changing that, though this legal issue may stand in the way of that.

Last month Priscilla Presley filed documents to contest the will of Lisa Marie. Prior to 2016, Priscilla was one of the trustees of her daughter’s estate, but a recently discovered 2016 document transfers that responsibility to Lisa Marie’s children Riley and Benjamin Keough. Benjamin passed away in 2020, leaving Riley as the sole trustee.

Priscilla is claiming there are irregularities with this new document, including that the signature on it does not match Lisa Marie’s signature, and that the document was not previously delivered to her, as it should have been under the previous terms of the trust. Priscilla is asking that both she and Riley be set as co-trustees, as the other former trustee along with Priscilla, her business manager Barry Siegel, is planning to resign from the position.

It's unfortunately not uncommon for battles over money, and control of it, to emerge after somebody's death. We recently watched a similar situation play out following the death of actress Anne Heche. Since Heche had no will, there was a conflict regarding who should be in charge of her estate. In the end, her eldest son Homer was placed in charge.

At this point, it seems a judge will need to rule to bring this issue to a close. If the document at issue is seen as valid then things will stay as they are and Riley will remain as trustee of the estate. If there is a desire to keep the family together then hopefully whatever happens the family of Lisa Marie Presley will be able to move past all this once the decision has been made.

Last week Priscilla Presley filed legal documents to contest the authenticity and validity of the last will of Lisa Marie Presley. Yesterday, on what would have been her daughter’s 55th birthday, Pricilla issued a statement (via Page Six) which, without making direct reference to the will, focuses on how she cares for family and thanks those that have shown support. It reads…

According to the court filing, in 1993, Priscilla Presley and her business manager Barry Siegel were named co-trustees of Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. An amendment was then made in 2010 that kept both Priscilla and Siegel in those roles. However, a document surfaced after Lisa Marie’s death that shows that in 2016 they were removed as trustees and her children Riley and Benjamin Keough were named as the new trustees. Benjamin committed suicide in 2020, which would leave Riley as the lone trustee. Presley has two other children, 14-year-old twins Finley and Harper.

Priscilla Presley claims that the document was never notarized, nor was it ever delivered to her, which was part of the 2010 trust agreement. What’s more, Lisa Marie’s mother questions the validity of the signature, which she says is inconsistent with her daughter's signature and even spells her daughter’s name wrong.

The court documents also claim that Barry Siegel is planning to resign as trustee, which would leave Priscilla and Riley as co-trustees if Presley’s legal challenge is successful. Siegel was previously Lisa Marie’s business manager as well. In 2018 she sued him for mismanagement of her inheritance from her father Elvis Presley.

The Presley name will remain front and center even outside of whatever happens with this case. One of Lisa Marie's final public appearances before her death was attending the Golden Globes where Austin Butler won the award for portraying her father in Elvis. Butler is also considered a contender for the Academy Award.

Why Is Priscilla Presley Contesting Lisa Marie Presley’s Will?

It was just a few days ago that the younger Presley was laid to rest at Graceland (near her father, and son Benjamin, who died in the summer of 2020), in a lovely service that made the news of her having become a grandmother public. Though we had heard that her three daughters would be taking over the estate, there are now some legal matters to contend with, as the Los Angeles Times reports that their own grandmother has filed a petition in L.A. County Superior Court which questions the “authenticity and validity” of Lisa Marie’s will.

Under dispute is an amendment to the document which was made in 2016, that claims to remove Priscilla Presley and her daughter’s former business manager, Barry Siegel, as co-trustees of the will, and replace them with Riley and Benjamin. Right now, the elder Presley and Siegel are still acting as trustees, and her petition wants them to remain as such. This is because the suit notes that the amendment was “allegedly signed by Lisa Marie Presley,” but supposedly misspells Priscilla’s name, and also has a signature that “appears inconsistent with [Lisa Marie Presley’s] usual and customary signature."

In addition, the filing alleges that this amendment had never been notarized or witnessed, and that it wasn’t delivered to the Presley matriarch while her daughter was still alive “as required by the express terms of the trust.” According to the petition, The Naked Gun actress also believes that Siegel “has already or will soon resign as co-trustee,” which will leave Priscilla and Riley as co-trustees. The filing asks that the “purported” amendment be invalidated, and the 2010 version of the trust be named “the controlling and authoritative document and its terms administered.”

What’s Included In Lisa Marie Presley’s Will That’s Now Being Contested By Priscilla Presley?

Based on a report from Radar Online, one thing that is a part of the singer/songwriter’s will are the two insurance policies that she took out before her death, with one for $25 million and another for $10 million. Apparently, both have already been paid out, but with the late star having been in a lot of debt, including owing back taxes totaling $700,000 to various states, needing to repay a $1.17 million loan to Barclay’s Bank UK, and having a number of legal fees from her contentious divorce from her twins’ father, there will be about $30 million left for her children.

There have also been some questions about whether or not her young twins will remain with their father now, as it was reported that her first ex-husband Danny, and/or their daughter Riley could petition for custody. Right now, however, the girls are living with their dad, Michael Lockwood, and slowly getting used to their new normal, though they are, obviously, still “reeling” from her death.

We’ll likely hear more about the proceedings to contest the will before too long, but all we can really hope is that the family will be able to continue the healing process while legal matters are ironed out.

It’s said that she ultimately lost 40 - 50 lbs. in six weeks by using weight loss medications. Sources claim that she also got plastic surgery two months before the Golden Globe Awards, which would mark her final public appearance. 

During awards season, the star had been making the press-wise with filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and his biopic’s leading man, Austin Butler, who just picked up an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of The King. Some seemed to take notice of her physical appearance when she showed up at the Globes. Having conducted what would be her final formal interview before she entered the Beverly Hills Hilton, Billy Bush opened up about speaking to her. The Extra host later said that he could tell that something was off and that the star was leaning heavily on talent manager Jerry Schilling for support.

Though many have speculated on Lisa Marie Presley’s health, most seem to be focused on the current state of her family. She was survived by her mother, Priscilla, and three kids: Riley Keough and 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. At present, the brood is facing a multitude of changes – particularly the kids, who now have the Graceland estate. Presley’s 14-year-old twin girls, Harper and Finley, are also now in the custody of her ex-husband, Michael Lockwood, who spoke out about her death and how he and their kids are doing. That last tidbit of news on the girls lines up with information that was previously reported. It was claimed that both girls refused to go back to their mom’s house after her death. Because of that, the two were reportedly staying at the home of their maternal grandmother, Priscilla Presley, as they all processed their grief. 

This weekend, Lisa Marie Presley is to be laid to rest at Graceland, where her father and late son, Benjamin, are also buried. Speaking of the Presley family compound in Memphis, the estate will now be entrusted to Harper and Finley as well as Presley’s older daughter, actress Riley Keough. Just recently, Keough lovingly paid tribute to her mother with a sweet post that garnered reactions from the likes of Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie. 

It goes without saying that this is an incredibly difficult time for the Presleys and their extended family at this time. But Michael Lockwood’s statement and those from other relatives indicate that the group is seeking to maintain a strong, united front. Now, a little over a week after her death, Presley’s 14-year-old twins reportedly won’t go home, and there are questions about whose custody they will enter into. Along with this news, it was announced that Lisa Marie Presley will be laid to rest near her father’s grave in Graceland, and her daughters will take over the estate.

The Presley family compound, located in Memphis, is currently the site where preparations are taking place for Lisa Marie Presley to be interred, according to TMZ. The family is getting ready for a Celebration of Life ceremony set for Sunday, January 22, which will take place at the famed backyard fountain located at Graceland, and will be open to the public. 

Lisa Marie Presley’s burial spot, which is being excavated, will reportedly be just beside son Benjamin, who died of suicide in 2020. As well, she’ll be across the fountain from her iconic father and his own father Vernon Elvis Presley, who passed away 2 years after the King’s shocking 1977 death, as well as mother Gladys Love Smith, who died in 1958. 

It appears as if more preparations are in place for Sunday’s event, with a stage being constructed on Graceland’s front lawn, where fans have been leaving many bouquets of flowers since Lisa Marie Presley’s death. At this time, no one has specifically been announced to pay tribute outside of presumed family members, but it wouldn’t be completely out of place for a few other noteworthy names to stop by with kind words and a tip of the hat. 

As Elvis fans and Graceland enthusiasts are likely well aware, the lavish tourist-friendly spot has a camera feed that shares footage of the grounds 24/7 via the establishment’s website. It was noted that the camera feeds were shut off completely for a time, and it’s suspected that was to allow the event prep to happen away from the public’s eyes.

What’s Going On With Lisa Marie Presley’s Twins Now?

It was last Thursday when the world was stunned by the news that Presley was rushed to the hospital after a cardiac event, which she suffered in her home in Calabasas, California. According to TMZ, her young twins, 14-year-old daughters Finley and Harper, whom she had with ex-husband Michael Lockwood, have refused to return to the home where their mom suffered her cardiac arrest. As such, they’re said to be spending most of their time at their maternal grandmother’s home in Los Angeles, with their older sibling also there as they all begin to cope with their loss.

Presley and Lockwood married in 2006, with their divorce being finalized after a five-year legal battle, in 2021. While the two had finally come to some agreements about child support in early October 2022, they were still in the midst of some legal issues regarding finances because of their protracted divorce/child support disagreements at the time of her death. However, with their father having had 40 percent custody before Presley’s death, one might assume that the girls would, eventually, go to live with him, but, the situation may not be so cut and dry.

What Might Be The Custody Problems With Lisa Marie Presley’s Twin Girls?

According to a different report from TMZ, it’s possible that another one of her ex-husbands, Danny Keough, and/or their 33-year-old daughter Riley (who stars in the upcoming Daisy Jones and the Six), will petition the court for custody of the twins, despite the fact that California law would allow Lockwood to take full custody in the light of Presley’s death. Supposedly, Keough sees himself as the girls’ “stepfather” even though he and Michael Jackson’s former spouse divorced, after six years of marriage, in the spring of 1994.

During their marriage, they also had a son, Benjamin, who sadly died by suicide in 2020. The former couple began living together again in the wake of his death, with him helping his former wife care for her younger children. With there allegedly being a lot of less-than-friendly feelings between Keough and Lockwood, those close to the family believe that he might want to step into a full parental role for the twins. 

It’s also thought that Priscilla Presley could make a bid for custody, but anyone who attempts such a move would have to prove that the girls’ dad is unfit in some way. And, if anyone does try to take custody away from him, with his daughters being teens, the judge would want to hear from them to determine where they should live.

All around, it’s an incredibly sad situation, so here’s hoping that the best course of action for the kids is found quickly as they cope with their mom’s death.

Not long after that, Priscilla Presley arrived at the medical facility to be by her daughter’s side, but sadly, she is no longer with us.

Just two days ago, Lisa Marie Presley was seen attending the 80th Golden Globes, with Priscilla Presley also being present at the event. The two were there in support of Warner Bros’ Elvis movie, which had been nominated in the Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director categories. Austin Butler ended up winning the middle category for his performance as Elvis Presley. Last June, just days after the biopic’s release, Lisa Marie Presley hyped up Elvis on social media, saying it was “nothing short of spectacular.”

Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, nine months after Elvis and Priscilla married. Her parents divorced in 1973, and Lisa Marie stayed with her mother. Four years later, Elvis Presley died fro heart disease, and after the deaths of her grandfather Vernon and great-grandmother Minnie Mae respectively died in 1979 and 1980, she became Elvis’ sole heir and inherited his Graceland estate. Presley owned and operated Elvis Presley Enterprises until 2005, when she sold 85% of its business holdings, not including Graceland and the property within it.

Like her father, Lisa Marie Presley became an accomplished singer, releasing her first album, To Whom It May Concern, in 2003, followed by Now What in 2005 and Storm & Grace in 2012. In her personal live, along with Danny Keough, Presley was married to Michael Jackson, Nicolas Cage and, most recently, Michael Lockwood, with that latter marriage lasting from 2006 to when the divorce was finalized in 2021. Presley leaves behind three children, including actress Riley Keough, who’s appeared in projects like Mad Max: Fury Road, Magic Mike, The Devil All the Time and The Terminal List. Presley was also once a Scientologist, but left the church in 2014.

According to sources who spoke with TMZ, Lisa Marie Presley went into “full arrest” today at her home in Calabasas, and it was reportedly her housekeeper who found her unresponsive in her bedroom. Presley’s ex-husband Danny Keough (who’s reportedly been living with her for “quite some time now”) performed CPR until the paramedics arrived, and then someone also administered epinephrine at least once in order to regain a pulse. From there, Presley was taken to the hospital, but her current condition hasn’t been revealed. Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley, is also now at the hospital to be by her daughter’s side.

The legal team representing former That ‘70s Show star Danny Masterson has recently made attempts to squash his impending trial over accusations of rape and more, from falling back on previously failed tactics to using billionaire Rick Caruso’s anti-Scientology ads as justification to delay the proceedings. Such pleas were rejected by Judge Charlaine Olmedo, however, who confirmed the actor’s trial would go forward as planned, while making other rulings on the case. But it appears there may be plans in place for the prosecution to call up former Scientologist Lisa Marie Presley as a witness.

Danny Masterson’s trial is set to begin on Tuesday, October 11, barring any successful last-minute attempts to stall things. He’s facing three charges of forcible rape involving three women, with the alleged crimes taking place from 2001-2003, which could land him in prison for upwards of 45 years if he’s found guilty of all three. And it appears there’s a chance the case could be tipped in one direction or another by Lisa Marie Presley, who’d earlier this year publicly supported the release of Austin Butler as her father in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. 

According to Tony Ortega’s The Underground Bunker, while Judge Olmedo reportedly denied the prosecution’s request to bring in another female accuser as an expert witness, it’s expected that Presley will be called in as a witness at some point in the trial. Details about her potential connections aren’t known, for obvious reasons, but her involvement would likely confirm suspicions that she was the “Lisa” being referenced during Masterson’s preliminary hearing in 2021. 

During the hearing, the victim identifying as Jane Doe 1 made multiple references to a friend named “Lisa,” who was connected to a friend of Masterson’s named Luke Watson, an actor that Presley was romantically tied to in the late 1990s. Both of them were heavily involved with the Church of Scientology at the time, with Presley remaining a follower until 2016, when she abruptly exited tied to her attempts to call leader David Miscavige out for the treatment of his father Ron, who’d burned many bridges upon leaving the Church in 2012. 

Jane Doe 1 claimed that after Danny Masterson sexually assaulted her in 2003, he demanded she not tell anyone, saying in part:

Despite suspicions that Lisa Marie Presley was being referenced, she hadn't been specifically tied to the trial in any way. As such, her arrival in the courtroom could have major reverberations depending on what she'd be testifying about. 

Masterson’s last regular TV role before everything went widely public was alongside his former That ‘70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher for The Ranch, which is still available to stream with a Netflix subscription. The actor will not be involved with the streaming service’s upcoming sequel series That ‘90s Show, which wrapped filming in July after bringing back other co-stars such as Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis and more. Albeit only for super-limited returns.

With the trial kicking off on October 11 with jury selection, more details will likely be coming soon, though it’s unclear how long the legal drama could play out before a verdict is reached.

Even his former Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-star Leonardo DiCaprio told Butler about how Luhrmann would push his acting abilities to new limits. Well, it definitely showed. 

The singer-songwriter also loved the direction of Baz Luhrmann and watching her children being able to take pride in their grandfather while viewing the film.

Not only has Lisa Marie Presley been praising Elvis, but so has Elvis’s ex-wife Priscilla Presley. She’s been giving this music biopic a hunk of burning love by giving some major praise of the film showing the relationship between Elvis and his manager Colonel Tom Parker as well as Austin Butler being able to fill in those big shoes well. This American businesswoman believes that audiences will understand her former husband’s journey to being the rock & roll icon he became. 

While some of the reviews may have been polarizing to some critics, others like Time Magazine said that they felt Baz Luhrmann’s love for Elvis throughout the film and that it was like seeing a “holographic rendering of Elvis Presley’s life.” And critics can agree that Austin Butler delivers an amazing performance different from anything they've ever seen him in. With a current Rotten Tomato rating of 82%, clearly, the Elvis biopic has done something right. Even if the film may not be perfect to all who watch it, at least Elvis Presley’s loved ones are proud of the movie which reminds audiences why there are still Elvis Presley fans.
