The Beverly Hills, 90210 cast has been through a lot in recent years, with the loss of Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry, among others. Even though there was some reported tension on set of the hit ‘90s teen drama, especially between Doherty and Jennie Garth, some tight bonds were forged on the set of the 10-season show. To that point, Garth recently reflected on Perry being her first real love.

One of the biggest storylines on 90210 is the love triangle between Brenda (Doherty), Dylan (Perry), and Kelly (Garth), and two of the actors truly had affection for each other off camera. Garth opened up about her experience on the series and her new book, I Choose Me: Chasing Joy, Finding Purpose & Embracing Reinvention, while on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. Shepard brought up Perry, as the late actor is brought up in the book and described as shining his light on Garth. The actress shared warm thoughts when discussing her relationship with Perry and the kind of person he truly was:

When Perry died in 2019, fellow Hollywood stars as well as fans heavily mourned him . Many celebrities paid tribute to Perry after his stroke, and those sentiments served as a testament to just how much of an impact he had on so many people. Now, it's lovely to hear about Perry's effect on Garth, and it really sounds special. It was so special, in fact, that Garth admitted in her book that she was in love with Perry, and she further explained their relationship to Shepard, which didn’t really go too far:

Even though both of the then-young actors could acknowledge their feelings for each other, they decided not to act on them. As sad as that may sound, it honestly makes sense, because they were on the biggest TV show at the time and were friends. With that, Perry clearly cared enough about Garth to protect her and not want to ruin anything between them and “ruin” her. Shepard did ask if Perry had trouble committing to her, and Garth had this to say:

I could imagine it would be difficult going through heartbreak at that age and in the public eye. That didn’t seem to put a damper on Jennie Garth and Luke Perry's relationship, though, and they still seemed to love and care for one another. All in all, they had a truly special relationship, and it sounds like Garth still carries that with her.

There are plenty of couples who've gotten together after meeting on the set of a movie or TV show and, while it works out for some, for others it does not. It can't be said for sure how Garth and Perry's lives (and possibly even their careers) would've been different had they actually linked up. Yet I simply appreciate their special bond and the fact that Garth was vulnerable enough to open up about it.

There have been many actors who have made remarkable comebacks in recent years, including the late Luke Perry. After taking the world by storm in the ‘90s with his portrayal of bad boy Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210, he returned to the teen drama genre in the mid-2010s as Fred Andrews, the father of KJ Apa’s Archie in Riverdale, a dark reboot of the ARCHIE Comics on The CW.

Perry died mid-way through Season 4 in 2019 after a stroke, but the cast still carries his memory with them. This includes Madelaine Petsch, who opened up about the pieces of advice he gave her.

Having gone through the teen drama phenomenon himself, Perry had been known to give advice to the young cast on Riverdale, and Petsch, who played Cheryl Blossom on all seven seasons, revealed what her co-star taught her. While appearing on Watch What Happens Live!, she was asked by a fan what the best piece of advice she got from Perry about acting or Hollywood in general was, and The Strangers – Chapter 2 star shared just how much he truly helped her:

It’s not surprising that Perry had a lot of advice to give and seemed to act as a mentor to the cast, given what he went through while on 90210. And I love that he made sure to share what he had learned and still kept with him after all those years. And not only did the advice help Petsch personally, it also helped her professionally, as she shared the second piece of advice that really stuck with her:

Perry’s death had a big impact on not only Hollywood but the world. So many people grew up with him on 90210, and many more were introduced to him with Riverdale and other projects. It definitely came as a surprise when his death was announced, and when Riverdale paid tribute to him in the first episode after, it made it all the more real. His death stayed with the series until the end, and much of the cast shared memories of Perry ahead of the series finale in 2023.

It’s nice to know that even years later, his impact is as big as ever.

Thanks to streaming and those Luke Perry worked with, his legacy will live on forever, and now, Petsch has those two strong pieces of advice to give to the next young actor she works with. And she also likely has plenty of stories to share or keep with her until the end of time. Luke Perry died of complications from a stroke in 2019 at the age of 52. Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood was released four months later.

May we all be remembered as well as Luke Perry when we’re gone. He was a great actor but beyond that, everybody who knew him seems to agree he was a good person.

It would be an understatement to say that Hollywood – and the entertainment-loving world at large – have lost a number of beloved actors over the past few years. For example, fan-favorite star Luke Perry sadly died at 52 back in 2019 and, in late 2023, Matthew Perry passed away at 54. Most recently, many have been mourning Luke’s fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 cast member, Shannen Doherty, who died at the age of 53 following a years-long battle with cancer. Amid the sea of tributes that have flooded the Internet since Doherty’s death was announced, a fan shared a clip from the aforementioned teen drama series, which features all three of the late actors. And, in all honesty, it’s pretty sobering to watch.

The fan dropped the clip on Threads, and the scene itself is from the Beverly Hills, 90210 episode “April Is the Cruelest Month,” which is part of the first season. It shows Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) and Dylan McKay (Luke Perry) having a brief encounter with Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestly) and fellow student Roger Azarian (Matthew Perry). What’s eerie about this clip isn’t the mere fact that Priestly is the only actor in it that’s still with us but the conversation that Brenda and Dylan have after the other pair speed off:

Said episode centers around Brandon’s interview with Roger, West Beverly Hills High School’s tennis star. After chatting with his peer and taking a look at a screenplay he wrote, Brandon begins to see that the young athlete may be dealing with some dark impulses. It’s a heavy installment of the long-running Fox show and one that remains memorable. That’s arguably due to the inclusion of the future Friends star.

What’s so tragic about watching that scene now is knowing that Matthew Perry dealt with a host of personal problems throughout his own life. The beloved actor struggled with addictions to both alcohol and drugs at different points in time. Later in life, Perry, whose death was attributed to the effects of the drug ketamine – was open about his struggles later in life. He documented quite a bit of his experiences in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. So, with all of this in mind, it’s quite jarring to see that TV show clip.

It’s honestly still hard to believe that three of the actors in the scene have passed on. Luke Perry sadly died after suffering two major strokes and being put on life support. At the time of his passing, he was starring as Fred Andrews on the CW teen drama Riverdale. His character was ultimately written out, with Fred ultimately dying following a hit-and-run incident. The Season 4 premiere paid tribute to Perry and his character, and Shannen Doherty guest-starred as a way to honor her late on-screen partner.

Shannen Doherty’s death was confirmed by her publicist this past weekend. The late Charmed star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission a few years later, before the disease returned. Throughout her cancer battle, Doherty was candid about her struggles and seemingly didn’t lose her upbeat spirit. She was even humorously morbid at times, going as far as to detail the “fun” plans she had for her remains following her death.

Like so many others, I’m sad that she, Matthew Perry and Luke Perry have passed away, and the clip above is a stark reminder of their absences. However, it also likely exudes nostalgia for fans who loved watching their work. All three will certainly be missed, but they’ll absolutely never be forgotten.

Jane Fonda has had a few ups and downs in her career. After breaking out as a star in the '60s, she was later shunned by many for her notorious trip to North Vietnam during the war. She rebounded and starred in hits like 9 to 5 and On Golden Pond. In 1991, Fonda married Ted Turner and completely stepped back from acting. She didn't appear in anything at all until after their divorce in 2001, but roared back to prominence in the 21st Century. 

Rob Lowe

As a member of the "Brat Pack" in the 1980s, Rob Lowe was on top of the world. That all came crashing down when a videotape of Lowe in a compromising situation was leaked. His hard partying had caught up to him, and though he got sober in 1992, he would spend much of the decade playing smaller roles or in direct-to-video movies. In 1999 he landed the role of Sam Seaborn in The West Wing and was once again on top, where he's stayed ever since. 

John Travolta

In the late '70s, there was no bigger star than John Travolta. From Welcome Back, Kotter to Grease and Saturday Night Fever, Travolta was in some of the biggest pop culture touchstones of all time. Then the '80s came and his career hit a serious lull. While he was in the hit Look Who's Talking and its sequels, it was 1994's Pulp Fiction that vaulted Travolta back to the top. 

Natasha Lyonne

In the late '90s, Natasha Lyonne was one of a group of budding stars in American Pie and other movies like Slums Of Beverly Hills before health and addiction problems derailed her career. Thankfully for all of us she came out of those those stronger and has since starred in fantastic shows like Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll.

Brendan Fraser winning the Oscar for 2022 The Whale capped off one of the greatest comeback stories in Hollywood history. His work had all but completely dried up in the late '00s and 2010s, but his career has had the most incredible resurgence in the 2020s. 

Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder defined "movie star" for late Gen Xers in the '90s, but after her infamous arrest for shoplifting in 2001, her career nosedived and she didn't appear in a movie for about three years after. For the next decade or so, she worked steadily but didn't regain her star power from early in her career. That changed when she starred in Stranger Things, starting in 2016, and she once again became a huge star. 

Dave Chappelle

In 2003 Dave Chappelle debuted Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central and it became a massive hit. Despite the network throwing tens of millions of dollars at the comedian to keep the show going, he turned it down and walked away. Chappelle stayed away for most of the next decade before reviving his standup career, and while Chappelle continues to garner controversy, it's safe to say he's as big as ever. 

Betty White

When Betty White died in 2021 she was mourned by millions. The beloved actress had been a television star since the 1940s, but not all of those years were in the spotlight. After early success in the '50s in Life with Elizabeth and other sitcoms, White's career hit a lull for more than a decade. She returned to the big time with her role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the '70s, The Golden Girls in the '80s, and then later with Hot in Cleveland in the 2010s.

Ke Huy Quan

There is no more heartwarming story than that of Ke Huy Quan's resurgence. the actor, who first found fame as a child in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, completely disappeared from Hollywood. For twenty years, he appeared in not one TV show or movie, before returning in 2021 with a role in Finding ʻOhana, and then winning an Oscar for his performance in 2022's Everything Everywhere All At Once. 

Michael Keaton

Michael Keaton was a controversial choice when he was cast as Batman in Tim Burton's Batman in 1989, but it shows just how famous he was at that time. After Batman Returns, Keaton's star faded and he starred in a run of films to mixed reviews. In 2014 Keaton starred in the very meta Birdman, as a former superhero star looking to regain his fame. It worked, at least for Keaton. 

Katharine Hepburn

Anyone with a career as long as Katharine Hepburn's is bound to have some slow periods. The most amazing fact of the legendary actress' career was the 34-year span between Best Actress Oscars. She won in 1934 for Morning Glory and then again in 1968 and 1969 for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and The Lion in Winter, respectively. She would win her fourth 13 years later in 1982 for On Golden Pond. 

Mickey Rourke

In the 1980s Mickey Rourke starred in a string of hits. Eventually, though, his reputation as being difficult to work with overshadowed his performances and he was left in the Hollywood wilderness until triumphantly returning to his past glory in 2008 with The Wrestler.

Sidney Poitier

Sidney Poitier was one of the biggest stars of the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Then came the '80s, when he stepped away from acting and concentrated on directing, to mixed reviews. In 1988 he turned back to acting and had a wonderful late career resurgence with films like Shoot To Kill and Sneakers. 

Jason Bateman

In the 1980s it looked like Jason Bateman was a surefire bet to be a huge star. Then the '90s came and his career pretty much dried up. He had some guest spots on TV shows, but little else. He was all but forgotten. In 2003, Fox debut a show you may have heard of, Arrested Development, with Bateman as the star, and he's been huge ever since. 

Keanu Reeves

It's hard to remember a time when Keanu Reeves wasn't one of the biggest stars in the world, but after his success in the '90s and early '00s with The Matrix and Speed and more, he starred in a slew of commercial and critical failures. Thankfully for Reeves fans everywhere, John Wick came along and Reeves was back on top of the mountain, where he still is. 

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore almost became a Hollywood child star casualty after her string of hits as a kid in the 1980s. She had a rough childhood that led to substance abuse problems as a teenager. Against the odds, she got through it all and became an even bigger star on the other end. 

Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris first got famous as a child prodigy playing a prodigy on Doogie Howser, MD. After the sitcom ended in 1993, he struggled to regain that popularity. That is, until he played a fictionalized version of himself in Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle in 2004. Soon after he landed the role he's best known for, Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. 

Matthew McConaughey

Most of Matthew McConaughey's early career was made up of starring roles in rom-coms. In 2009 the Lincoln Lawyer star took a two-year acting hiatus to re-evaluate his career. He emerged in 2011 by taking on more serious roles and leaving his rom-com leading man reputation behind. Since the so-called "McConaissance," McConaughey's become on of the most acclaimed actors of the 21st century. 

Nicolas Cage

By 2009 Cage was one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood, and one of the highest-paid actors in the business, but it seems he couldn't curb his spending and ended up in debt to the IRS and other creditors. As a result, Cage seemingly took every job offered to him, and he put out an immense catalog of straight-to-video movies that few people have ever watched. Finally, in 2022, Cage revealed he was finally debt-free and started being more selective with his roles. this led to acclaimed roles in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and 2023's Dream Scenario.

Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore's career started like a comet as a singer in the late '90s which she parlayed into an acting career. That career slowed way down in the early 2010s, only to be revived in a massive way with her starring role on the NBC hit This Is Us. 

Christian Slater

With starring roles in Heathers, Pump Up The Volume, and Gleaming The Cube, Christian Slater became a Gen X icon. He scored a number of high-profile roles in big-budget movies in the '90s, before work started drying up in the early 2000s. He returned to Hollywood prominence with his award-winning role in Mr. Robot and has maintained it ever since. 

Luke Perry

Luke Perry was one of the biggest television stars of the 1990s as part of the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210. After the show ended though, his star faded some. That is, until he was cast in the CW's Riverdale and he was discovered by a whole new generation of fans. Tragically, Perry died in 2019 at age 52. 

Christina Ricci

Childhood success for Christina Ricci didn't immediately translate to success as an adult. She's always worked steadily, but her fame never quite reached the heights of her early career in The Addams Family. That changed in 2021 with Showtime's Yellowjackets. 

Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh first found international fame with her roles in the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouch Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She maintained a level of success, but she exploded to new heights with her Oscar-winning turn in 2022's Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. 

Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell was huge in the '90s with her starring role in the show Party Of Five and movies like The Craft and Wild Things. In the early 2000s, she starred in the Scream franchise, but hit a lull after that. Recently, she's been back on top with roles in The Lincoln Lawyer and Twisted Metal. 

Channing Tatum

Fans might not think that Channing Tatum has never had a career lull, but he has actually had a couple. He's always had to fight the idea that he's all looks and little substance (which is far from accurate), and that has affected his career at different points. He's always rebounded with strong performances like the one in Foxcatcher, however. 

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence's career hasn't really had a financial downturn, her lull was completely her choice. After a couple of poorly reviewed films and becoming the most famous victim of the iPhone hacking scandal, Lawrence stepped away from acting for two years in 2019. She triumphantly returned in the great movie Don't Look Up in 2021. 

Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey was first famous for starring in teen comedies like Loverboy and Can't Buy Me Love. He bounced around for a few years after that, working steadily but hardly a star. That changed in a big way when he landed the role of Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd in 2005 on Grey's Anatomy. 

Marlon Brando

The 1960s weren't kind to Marlon Brando. After establishing himself as a bonafide star and one of the finest actors of the 20th century in the '50s, his mercurial nature earned him a reputation as difficult to work with. A string of box office failures didn't help. Famously, he pushed hard to get the role of Vito Corleone in The Godfather, and wow, was that the right move! He won an Academy Award and reminded everyone how great an actor he was. 

David Carradine

Leave it to Quentin Tarantino to help revive a star's career like he did with John Travolta. David Carradine was huge in the 1970s as the star of Kung Fu, and while he always found work, it took until Kill Bill in 2003 that he found that same level of fame again. 

Kiefer Sutherland

After becoming one of the biggest teen idols of the '80s, Kiefer Sutherland spent most of the '90s in smaller, supporting roles. In 2001, however, he landed the role of Jack Bauer in 24 and it became the part he's most known for, becoming a television icon over the run of the show. 

Fame, as they say, is fleeting, and these actors prove there can always be a second act in Hollywood.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry is pure Ohio. Not only was John Wick: Chapter 3 star born in Cleveland but she's even named after a local department store, Halle's. Berry grew up in the suburb of Oakwood, just outside the Cleveland city limits, and even attended Cuyahoga Community College while she was first starting her career toward fame. Before starring in some of Hollywood's biggest movies, Berry represented her home state in the Miss USA contest, after being named Miss Ohio USA in 1986. 

Luke Perry

Luke Perry found fame playing a high school student at the posh West Beverly High, but his beginnings were much more humble. The son of a steelworker, Perry was born in the Ohio town of Mansfield and raised in a tiny burg called Fredericktown, where he attended high school at Fredericktown High School. He moved to Los Angeles after graduating and while it took a few years, he landed his big break in Beverly Hills, 90210. Perry died tragically from a stroke in 2019.

Drew Carey

No one on this list is more proud to be from Ohio than Price Is Right host Drew Carey. It's clear that his Cleveland roots mean a lot to him, given that his show, The Drew Carey Show, was set in Cleveland, with a theme song called "Cleveland Rocks." Not only did the comedian grow up in Cleveland, he also attended Kent State in Ohio and even served in the Marine Corps reserves in the state before moving west to find fame. 

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1978 and has always remained a proud Ohioan. She attended Catholic school as a kid and began modeling in Toledo while still in high school. That led to opportunities in New York City, which led to her landing her first film role at 19 in Ang Lee's The Ice Storm (1997). Soon after, she joined the cast of Dawson's Creek and the rest is history. 

John Legend

The Voice judge John Legend was born in the central Ohio town of Springfield. Legend was a true prodigy during his upbringing. He was dabbling in music at a young age, before leaving Ohio to attend the University of Pennsylvania. 

Yvette Nicole Brown

Yvette Nicole Brown took the hard road to fame. Before she landed her starring role on Community, she found her way to success with bit parts and one-offs on TV shows. It all paid off in the end, but before she made it in Hollywood, she was born and raised in the Cleveland, OH area. After high school, she attended the University of Akron and moved to LA after she graduated. 

Clark Gable

There is no bigger star from the Golden Age of Hollywood than Clark Gable. Like many of his fellow Ohioans, he had humble beginnings. Born in 1901 in Cadiz, OH, Gable moved around the state quite a bit before his father and stepmother settled near Akron. Gable struck out on his own, first working in a tire factory in Akron, before bouncing around until he finally ended up in Hollywood in the 1920s. 

Beverly D'Angelo

When you are the granddaughter of the architect who designed the famous Ohio Stadium at The Ohio State University, you know you are pure Ohio. Such is the case for Vacation star Beverly D'Angelo. Unsurprisingly, D'Angelo was born in Columbus and raised in the suburb of Upper Arlington, before setting out on an entertainment career that took her all over North America, before she found success in Hollywood. 

Steve Harvey

Okay, so we're fudging here a little, as beloved talk show host and TV judge Steve Harvey was actually born in West Virginia, but he was raised in Cleveland. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended Kent State, before dropping out and starting his standup career in comedy clubs in and around Cleveland. 

Paul Newman

When you think of the words "movie star," there's a good chance you might picture Paul Newman. From the mid-'50s until his death in 2008, the Shaker Heights, OH native was box office gold. He graduated from Shaker Heights High in 1943 and joined the Navy during World War II. He finally headed to LA in the '50s and over the next six decades starred in some of the biggest movies of all time. 

Arsenio Hall

Born in Cleveland in 1956, actor and talk show host Arsenio Hall grew up in nearby Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and attended college at both Ohio University and Kent State. He left Ohio, first for Chicago and later LA, and his career took off with some fantastic roles from there. 

Phyllis Diller

Phyllis Diller's remarkable life began in Lima, Ohio in 1917. Her roundabout way to comedy legend status started when she was still a full-time mother and homemaker with her military husband in Alameda, CA. She was discovered after she made some appearances on Bay Area radio and TV stations and from there became a star. 

Rachael Harris

Lucifer star Rachael Harris was born in Worthington, OH, and grew up in the Columbus area before attending college at Otterbein University in nearby Westerville, OH. She moved to LA and was a member of the legendary improv group The Groundlings before she started landing TV roles in the 1990s. Today she's best known for Goosebumps (2023) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010), in addition to Lucifer. 

Steven Spielberg

In The Fablemans, Ohio native Steven Spielberg tells a fictionalized version of his own life, but one major change was made. In the movie, Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) and his family move from New Jersey to Arizona. In real life, the Spielbergs moved to Phoenix from Cincinnati, Ohio. Though he only lived in Cincinnati for the first ten years or so of his life, there is no doubt that one of the all-time great directors has his roots in Ohio. 

Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra was born just outside of Cincinnati and grew up in the Queen City. She first started dancing and acting at Princeton High School in the Cincinnati school district and her love of doing both led directly to Hollywood where she's been doing both for decades now. 

Doris Day

Though she retired from acting in 1968, Doris Day is still remembered as a legend of old Hollywood. She also recorded almost three dozen albums over her nearly 100-year life. It all started in Cincinnati in 1922 when Day was born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff. Her career started as a singer on a local radio station in Cincinnati, WLW. Her music led her to Hollywood, and a star was born. 

Philip Michael Thomas

Philip Michael Thomas is most famous for starring as Rico Tubbs on the '80s hit Miami Vice. He's also famous for inventing the term "EGOT", claiming in the '80s that he would win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, though he has yet to win any of the prestigious awards. Thomas was born in Cincinnati, but raised in California, where his career began. 

Teri Garr

Though she was raised mostly in Los Angeles, Teri Garr was born near Cleveland, OH, in the suburb of Lakewood. Her parents were entertainers, so it makes sense they would eventually land in Southern California, so while Garr didn't spend much time in Ohio, the state can certainly claim her as one of their own. 

Randy "Macho Man" Savage

Oh yeah! One of the greatest wrestlers of all time came from Columbus, OH. Born Randy Poffo in 1952, the Macho Man and his wrestling brother "Leaping" Lanny Poffo lived in Zanesville, Ohio, until the family moved to the Chicagoland area when Savage was in high school. Though he tried to become a pro baseball player, Savage found fame with the WWE and was a superstar in the sport until he died in 2012. 

Anne Heche

Before her tragic death in 2022, Anne Heche put together an impressive career in Hollywood and broke a lot of barriers when she very publicly dated Ellen DeGeneres. It was a long way from her strict Christian upbringing in Ohio. Heche was born in the Akron suburb of Aurora, Ohio, and also lived near Cleveland for a time before her father moved the family to New Jersey in 1977 when Heche was eight. 

Rob Lowe

Okay, okay, so Rob Lowe was actually born in Virginia, but he moved to Dayton, OH at a very young age and was raised in the Buckeye State. His first gigs as a professional actor came when he was still living in Dayton and as soon as he could, he headed out to Hollywood where he became one of the famous "Brat Pack" in the 1980s. His career had a few bumps in the road, but today he's one of the most beloved stars on the silver screen. 

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker's most famed role is of a dyed-in-the-wool Manhattanite, but the actress was born in a quaint little town near Columbus named Nelsonville, Ohio, with a population of about 5000. Her career as a child actor took her whole family to New York in the 1970s and Parker has never looked back. 

Lili Reinhart

Riverdale star Lili Reinhart was born and raised in the Cleveland area, where she lived until she was 18. After graduating high school, she moved to LA and though she struggled like most young actors, eventually she started landing parts in a few movies, before scoring a starring role on the CW's Riverdale, playing the iconic Betty Cooper. 

Jamie Farr

Jamie Farr's most famous character, Corporal Klinger on one of the highest-rated shows of all time, M*A*S*H, was from Toledo, Ohio, which would have been easy for the actor to remember, as that is where Farr is from too. For decades, Farr's name was associated with the LPGA golf tournament, The Jamie Farr Classic (with various sponsor names over the years). 

Martin Sheen

Born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez in Dayton, OH, The West Wing star Martin Sheen always knew he wanted to be an actor, even growing up in Dayton. Orphaned at eleven, he lived in Dayton until he graduated high school and headed off for New York to make it big, and it's safe to say he has. 

Fred Willard

Comedy legend Fred Willard is responsible for some of the funniest lines in the Christopher Guest family of films, a sense of humor he developed as a kid in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, OH. Born in Cleveland in 1933, Willard moved to New York in the '50s, and though it took a couple of decades to find fame, he eventually did. The world lost a great one when he died in 2020. 

Allison Janney

Though she is technically from Boston, where she was born in 1959, Allison Janney was raised in Dayton. Even her legendary character from The West Wing, CJ Craig, was  from Dayton and went back home in one episode for her high school reunion. 

Katt Williams

Katt Williams, the unpredictable, and hilarious, comedian was born and raised in Cincinnati, but left town and moved to Florida after being emancipated from his parents at age 13. For years he worked the comedy clubs before launching to fame in the late '90s. 

Nancy Cartwright

She might not be the most famous face on this list, but her voice is one of the most famous in the world. Nancy Cartwright has been doing the voice of Bart Simpson (and other Simpsons characters) for more than 30 years, but long before scoring that gig, she grew up in Kettering, Ohio after being born in Dayton.

Patricia Heaton

Patricia Heaton, star of Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, was born in the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, OH and she got her bachelor's degree at The Ohio State University. So while she lives in LA and in the UK these days, she's an Ohioan through and through. 

Catherine Bach

It's hard to believe that The Dukes of Hazzard was consistently one of the highest-rated shows during its run in the late '70s and early '80s. It's not hard to believe that Cleveland native Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke in her short shorts was a big reason why it was so popular. 

Rocky Carroll

NCIS star Rocky Carroll is a proud son of Cincinnati, where he attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts for high school like many other stars from the area. After attending college in St. Louis, MO, he moved to New York City to start his career and he's never looked back. 

While it may not jump out as an entertainment hotbed, when you scratch the surface, you'll soon realize just how many celebrities have been born in Ohio, and it's a lot. 

After seven seasons and countless kooky storylines, Riverdale will officially air its final episode this week. The seventh season of the ARCHIE Comics-based series exudes plenty of nostalgia, which was a given due to the backdrop and story arc. It takes place in the 1950s and in a new timeline (and has seemingly been building to something). As the show reaches it conclusion, one can't help but think of major moments and people that influenced the teen drama. One important individual is  cast member and Fred Andrew actor Luke Perry, who died at 52 in 2019. Now, ahead of the finale, several members of the cast are sharing their fondest memories of Perry.

The principal stars of the long-running series took part in a lengthy exit interview with Vulture, and talk eventually turned to the late Luke Perry. Madelaine Petsch shared some particularly warm thoughts about the beloved actor. She specifically discussed how he predicted Riverdale's longevity and overall position within the cultural landscape before the series even premiered:

Obviously, the late actor was no stranger to teen dramas, considering he starred as bad boy Dylan McKay throughout Beverly Hills, 90210’s 10-season run. He knew all of the ins and outs of working on such a show. And unsurprisingly, he was also knowledgeable of the intense fame that came with such a position. Cole Sprouse conveyed that very idea while weighing in during the conversation:

Luke Perry starred as Fred Andrews during Riverdale first three seasons. The father of lead character Archie Andrews, he served as a mentor to his son and, after Perry's death, the elder Andrews was killed off screen in a hit-and-run accident. Though he died amid production on the third season, the show formally said goodbye to Perry during the Season 4 premiere. The character's send-off was sweet, and the episode even included a guest appearance from Shannen Doherty, who worked with Perry on 90210.

While the actor himself seems to have been a positive force behind the camera, his character filled the same position in front of it. Fred was one of the few parents on the show with no devious, ulterior motives and was well-respected within the titular town. It goes without saying that Fred is missed as is the man who perfectly played him.

Madelaine Petsch and Cole Sprouse continued to have a back-and-forth, as they reminisced about their late co-star, bringing up the way he’d wear his glasses and how he would get “super-close” to your face when he was speaking. But Camila Mendes summed it all up perfectly by saying they were "lucky to work with him." It’s clear that even now, Luke Perry continues to make an impact on the cast, and one would think that they'll carry his lessons with them for years to come.

With Riverdale’s final episode airing this Wednesday, August 23 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW as part of the 2023 TV schedule, I'm curious to see if the series pays tribute to Luke Perry one more time. Whether that happen through archival footage or a brief mention of Fred, I'd be pleased with almost any sweet manner in which the cast and crew could honor him

Before the TV show earned its spot in pop culture history the Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie gave us a campy teen movie about a valley girl who is from a long line of vampire hunters. This was Kristy Swanson’s breakout role, but did you know other actors like Ben Affleck and Hilary Swank also got their start in this movie? Keep reading to see what they, and the rest of the cast are up to today.

Kristy Swanson (Buffy)

Before Sarah Michelle Gellar was launched to stardom on the Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV show, Kristy Swanson originated the titular role of everyone’s favorite cheerleader turned vampire slayer. Although the film was a box office flop, it found new life on home video and has since become a cult classic. After Buffy, Swanson had a string of early-'90s hits including Charlie Sheen hits Hot Shots! and The Chase. After a string of box office bombs in the late-'90s, Swanson transitioned to TV work.

In 1998 she had a starring role in Early Edition, a pre-Friday Night Lights Kyle Chandler series, and has had a steady stream of guest roles including a recurring role as Marlowe Viccellio on the fan-favorite USA series, Psych, and recently-moved-to-Paramount+ series, SEAL Team. Swanson has also been frequently collaborating with fellow TV star Dean Cain on a bunch of religious-themed movies, and also a play focused on former FBI Agents Peter Strozk and Lisa Paige, a role for which Swanson has revealed she has received death threats.

Donald Sutherland (Merrick) 

As Merrick, Donald Sutherland portrayed the original watcher to Buffy’s slayer, the person who guides and mentors her through her vampire hunting. Sutherland was a popular actor prior to Buffy, with a career dating back to 1962 and appearing in films such as the popular firefighter drama, Backdraft. Sutherland’s post-Buffy work has also been impressive, starring in over 50 roles, including The Italian Job, the Oscar-winning Cold Mountain, and the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. More recently, he appeared in the hugely popular Hunger Games franchise as the villainous President Coriolanus Snow.

Sutherland is no stranger to television either, with supporting roles in several shows including ABC’s popular, but short-lived Dirty Sexy Money, the FX oil drama Trust, and most recently as Nicole Kidman’s father in the HBO miniseries, The Undoing. The unique timbre of Sutherland’s voice has also netted him a string of voice work over the years, including a series of commercials for Delta Airlines. As a native son of Canada, Sutherland also did voice work for the 2010 Winter Olympics which were held in Vancouver, where he also got to be a flag carrier.

Ben Affleck (Basketball Player)

Bet you forgot Ben Affleck was in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, didn’t you? An uncredited, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo, Affleck briefly appears as a high school basketball player, who apparently had his line dubbed over. What’s he been up to since then? Just becoming one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, as well as a critically acclaimed director. Oh, and he was Batman. Really, you could stop it there, he was Batman. Just Kidding! Affleck’s early career includes being the Leonardo DiCaprio to Kevin Smith’s Martin Scorsese, but what really put him on the map was winning an Oscar for co-writing the 1997 hit, Good Will Hunting, alongside his Bostonian Best Friend, Matt Damon.

After a stint as one of Hollywood’s leading men in the late '90s and early 2000’s, Affleck’s career came crashing down after co-starring in the maligned, Gigli, alongside then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. A few years spent in actor jail gave Affleck the time to reinvent himself as a director, including critically acclaimed hits Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo. Of course, one of his most high profile roles in the last decade has been portraying Batman in the Snyderverse including the recently released Zack Snyder's Justice League, which he is set to reprise in The Flash, due in 2022 from Andy Muschietti.

Hilary Swank (Kimberly)

Who knew Buffy The Vampire Slayer would launch the careers of not one, but two Academy Award winning stars? While Buffy was Swank’s first film credit, playing Buffy’s cheerleader friend, Kimberly, it certainly would not be her last. Her first breakout role came in the 1994 fourth installment of The Karate Kid, cleverly titled, The Next Karate Kid. After some TV movies and even a recurring role on Beverly Hills, 90210 alongside fellow Buffy alum Luke Perry, Swank rocketed to the top of Hollywood’s A-list with her Oscar winning performance in the 1999 drama, Boys Don’t Cry, a role Swank has said if she was offered today she would turn down in favor of casting a transgender actor.

Swank also joined a rarefied list of double Best Actress winners after starring in Clint Eastwood’s critically acclaimed boxing drama, Million Dollar Baby, but her career began to slow down after that, though she did go on to have the title role in the Amelia Earhart biopic, Amelia, as well as roles in P.S. I Love You, Logan Lucky and 55 Steps. More recently, Swank is back in the mainstream, appearing alongside Buffy alum Donald Sutherland in FX’s Trust, and the short-lived Netflix astronaut drama, Away. She also voiced the role of Joey Pogo in BoJack Horseman.

Rutger Hauer (Lothos)

Rutger Hauer’s most iconic role actually came before his turn as Lothos in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Sci-Fi fans will remember him as Roy Batty from the groundbreaking 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner. After a slew of '80s films, Hauer was cast in mostly low budget movies and television. Genre fans might remember him from some guest spots in Smallville and True Blood, and a part as the acting CEO of Wayne Enterprises in Batman Begins. David Arquette (Benny)

Spoiler Alert: David Arquette has spent a lot of time as a professional wrestler. Arquette played Benny, Luke Perry’s friend-turned-vampire, who you might remember from the scene where Buffy slices his hot dog (this is not a euphemism). Arquette wouldn’t reach superstardom until 1996’s horror hit, Scream, playing Deputy Dewey. After a string of turn-of-the-millennium hits including the rest of the Scream franchise, Never Been Kissed and Eight Legged Freaks, Arquette’s career took an interesting left turn.

After starring in the 2000 comedy Ready to Rumble, about the now defunct WCW, Arquette took a real interest in the sport. While he’s still had a steady stream of supporting work and voice work, he’s made a very serious attempt at becoming a professional wrestler, which has culminated in the 2020 documentary aptly titled, You Cannot Kill David Arquette. Arquette is slated to reprise his role as Deputy Dewey in the upcoming Scream 5 due in January 2022.

Paul Reubens (Amilyn)

Reubens will always be known for his iconic persona Pee-Wee Herman, which he inhabited during the '80s and into the early '90s. However, his career came to a screeching halt in the wake of his 1991 arrest for masturbation inside an adult movie theater in Florida. His role as Amilyn, Lothos’ henchman, came after this arrest at a time when he was taking on smaller roles that were mostly out of the spotlight. Since then, Reubens has made a career of supporting work including a guest stint on the '90s comedy Murphy Brown, which netted him an Emmy nomination.

A small part in the 1999 Johnny Depp drama, Blow, began a revival of his career, which has led to higher profile supporting work that has been very eclectic. Reubens has popped up on everything from 30 Rock, to the James Spader crime procedural, The Blacklist, and also a steady stream of voice work. His Pee-Wee Herman character has also been slowly brought back, which led to the 2015, Judd Apatow-produced film for Netflix, Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday.

Randall Batinkoff (Jeffrey)

Batinkoff’s role as Buffy’s boyfriend, Jeffrey, landed him some starring roles in the early '90s, including a role in the Brendan Fraser drama, School Ties. Since then he’s been a working actor, with guest roles in films and TV, most notably as George Washington in the CW Arrowverse show, Legends of Tomorrow.

Paris Vaughan (Vicki)

As part of Buffy’s cheer squad, Paris Vaughan’s character of Vicki didn’t have much to do in the film. Vaughan had some early roles before Buffy, including Knightwatch, a brief '80s TV show about teen vigilantes that also was an early role for Benjamin Bratt, but hasn’t acted since a guest spot on The Wayans Bros. in 1995. According to IMDB she’s currently married to retired hockey player Russ Courtnall.

Michele Abrams (Jennifer)

Another of Buffy’s cheer squad members, Michele Abrams made a go of acting in the 1990s. Some of her other credits include the daytime soap, Days Of Our Lives, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, and 7th Heaven. Her final screen role was in the 1999 TV movie Replacing Dad.

Luke Perry

Luke Perry’s Pike was the opposites attract, outcast love interest to Buffy’s cheerleader personality. The original bad boy, vampire killing boyfriend (eat your heart out, Angel), Buffy and Pike ride off on a motorcycle together. Coming into Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Perry was already a teen heartthrob thanks to his breakout turn as the bad boy (you may be sensing a pattern here) with a heart of gold, Dylan McKay on the seminal teen drama, Beverly Hills, 90210. While Perry did appear in a number of films, most ended up direct-to-video. He found more success in television, including memorable roles in the early HBO prison drama, Oz, as well as a starring role in the mid-2000’s Showtime post-apocalypse drama, Jeremiah.

Luke Perry also did theater, appearing in lead roles in adaptations of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and When Harry Met Sally… Perry roared back to pop culture in a big way beginning in 2017 taking a lead role in the CW megahit, Riverdale, playing Archie’s father. Sadly, Perry passed away in March 2019 after suffering a massive stroke. His final on-screen role was a small part he shot for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

With a TV reboot long in development, Buffy continues to stay relevant in media. Although the film was a flop, the cast is stacked with A-list Hollywood talent, and this cult classic has its spot in the pop culture pantheon. Running for 10 seasons in total and inspiring several more series in its wake, Beverly Hills 90210 is undoubtedly one of the most popular shows of the '90s. A decade-spanning look into the developing lives of upscale Beverly Hills teenagers trying to navigate their lives through high school, then college, then early adulthood, particularly as the show navigated through topics both lighthearted and serious, the long-spanning coming-of-age series became a massive ongoing success for its central players, including Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, and the late Luke Perry.

Now that Beverly Hills 90210 has been off the air for over 20 years (give or take some short-lived reboots), let's take a look at what the high-profile ensemble of this heavily-watched teen/young adult drama series are doing now. Unfortunately, as we mentioned before, Luke Perry is no longer with us, having died in 2019, but his memory remains cherished among fans of the show.

Jason Priestley (Brandon Walsh)

As Brandon Walsh, the virtuous and admired lead character of the series, Jason Priestley played the male protagonist in Beverly Hills 90210. He later reprised this role and played a fictionalized version of himself in BH90210, where he also worked as a co-producer and director. His other notable TV credits include his starring turn in Call Me Fritz, where he also directed several episodes, Raising Expectations, Haven, Side Order of Life, Tru Calling, Sister Kate, and Teen Angel. Additionally, away from television, Priestley can be seen in Tombstone, Hacks, Watchers, Calendar Girl, Double Down, Made in Brooklyn, Cover Story, and Cherish.

Over the years, Jason Priestley has moved behind the camera to direct several shows, including Van Helsing, Saving Hope, The Outer Limits, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, The Lake, 7th Heaven, and Haven. He made his feature directorial debut with 2013's Cats & Dylan. He also directed several TV movies, including Dear Santa, Don't Cry Now, and Barenaked in America. Currently, Priestley stars in Private Eyes, which he also works as an executive producer and director.

Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh)

In the role of Brenda Walsh, a smart, driven, outgoing teenager who wants to make a good impression, Shannen Doherty played one of the lead roles in Beverly Hills 90210. She later reprised this role in 90210 and BH90210, where she also played a fictionalized version of herself. Doherty also co-produced the latter series. Away from this television franchise, the actress is best known for playing Prue Halliwell in Charmed. She also played main roles in Little House on the Prairie, Our House, and The Secret of Lost Creek, as well as recurring roles in Heathers and North Shore. Additionally, Doherty starred in the reality TV series, Shannen Says. Furthermore, her film credits include Heathers, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Bethany, Night Shift, and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. She can also be heard in The Secret of NIMH.

Most recently, Shannen Doherty was seen in Undateable John. The TV actress also made a cameo in Riverdale as a tribute to the late Luke Perry. Next, the actress will be seen in The Fortress, which will reportedly get a sequel prior to its original's release. She's also expected to reprise her role as Rene in a Mallrats sequel.

Tori Spelling (Donna Martin)

Playing the part of Donna Martin, a sweet, easygoing character with an eye for fashion, Tori Spelling found her star-making role in Beverly Hills 90210. The actress also played the part in Melrose Place, 90210, and BH90210, where she also played a variation of herself, which she also co-created and co-produced. Outside of this TV franchise, Spelling starred in several TV movies, including A Friend to Die For, A Carol Christmas, The Mistle-Toes, and both versions of Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? Additionally, the actress starred in So Notorious, as well as reality TV series like Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, True Tori, and Tori & Dean: Cabin Fever. She also appeared in The Last Sharknado: It's About Time.

In film, additionally, Tori Spelling appeared in Troop Beverly Hills, The House of Yes, Scream 2, Scary Movie 2, and Kiss the Bride. Outside of acting, Spelling is a best-selling memoirist and the host of the podcast, 9021OMG, alongside Jennie Garth. Currently, the actress is filming Bleeding Greed.

Jennie Garth (Kelly Taylor)

As Kelly Taylor, a young woman who has survived several personal challenges in her steps towards adulthood, Jennie Garth played a main character in Beverly Hills 90210. She also played this role in Melrose Place, 90210, and BH90210, where the actress also co-created and co-produced. Outside of this series, Garth is most notably known for playing Val Tyler in The WB's What I Like About You. She also appeared in Dancing with the Stars. Her other television credits include The $treet, Brand New Life, Community, Mystery Girls, The Mick, and The Larry Sanders Show. Garth also starred in TV movies like Secret Santa and Girl, Positive.

Away from television, Jennie Garth can be seen in Power 86, Your Family Or Your Life, My Brother's War. She was also heard in Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. Outside of acting, Garth penned the 2014 memoir, Deep Thoughts from a Hollywood Blonde. Next, Garth will be seen in Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story. Ian Ziering (Steve Sanders)

In the role of Steve Sanders, a seemingly rich and spoiled teenager with a sensitive side, Ian Ziering played one of the main characters in Beverly Hills 90210. He also played the part in Melrose Place and BH90210, along with a fictionalized version of himself, which he also co-produced. Away from this popular series, Ziering is best known for playing the lead role of Fin Shepard in the Sharknado movies, leading up to 2018's The Last Sharknado: It's About Time. Recently, Ziering had recurring roles in Swamp Thing and Malibu Rescue. He also appeared in Dancing with the Stars, The Apprentice, Worst Cooks in America, Celebrity Name Game, and Hollywood Squares.

As a voice actor, additionally, Ian Ziering is heard in Biker Mice from Mars, Mighty Ducks, Godzilla: The Series, Spider-Man, Batman Beyond, and Batman Beyond: The Movie. Outside of television, Ziering appears in Endless Love, That's My Boy, McKenna Shoots for the Stars, Domino, No Way Back, The Legend of Awesomest Maximus, F the Prom, and Malibu Rescue. Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea Zuckerman)

Playing the part of Andrea Zuckerman, a dedicated and overreaching high school academic, Gabrielle Carteris played a purpose-driven young woman in Beverly Hills 90210. She also reprised the role and played a version of herself in BH90210, which she also co-produced. Her other television credits include a main role in My Alibi and a recurring role in Code Black, as well as guest appearances in Touched by an Angel, JAG, NYPD Blue, Nip/Tuck, Drake & Josh, Crossing Jordan, The Middle, Longmire, and NCIS. Additionally, on the big screen, Carteris can be seen in Raising Cain, Jackknife, and Meet Wally Sparks.

Furthermore, as a voice actress, Gabrielle Carteris is heard in Johnny Bravo, King of the Hill, Batman Beyond, Gargoyles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Brian Austin Green (David Silver)

As David Silver, an ambitious kid who wants so desperately to be cool, Brian Austin Green played a primary character throughout all ten seasons of Fox's Beverly Hills 90210. He also played this part in Melrose Place and reprised this role and played a variation of himself in BH90210, which he also co-produced. Away from this series, Green was a series regular on Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Freddie, Anger Management, and Wedding Band. Also, the actor played recurring roles in Desperate Housewives, Stacey Stone, Trailer Park Boys, and Knots Landing. Outside of television, Green appears in Don't Blink, Cross, Laws of Deception, Kickboxer 2, ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2, and Domino.

Carol Potter (Cindy Walsh)

In the role of Cindy Walsh, the mother of Brenda and Brandon, Carol Potter plays a maternal character in Beverly Hills 90210. Outside of this Fox show, Potter played Joan Cummings in NBC's long-running Sunset Beach. Her other television credits include Today's F.B.I., JAG, Greek, Medium, L.A. Law, One Life to Live, and BH90210. Outside of television, Potter was seen in Tiger Heart, Naturally Native, and Dutch Treat. Most recently, the TV actress appeared in Donny's Bar Mitzvah earlier this year.

James Eckhouse (Jim Walsh)

Playing the part of Jim Walsh, the disciplinarian father of Brandon and Brenda, James Eckhouse plays a paternal character in Beverly Hills 90210. Prior to his time in this series, Eckhouse was seen in supporting roles in Big, Trading Places, Fatal Attraction, Cocktail, and Fat Man and Little Boy. He can also be seen in A Cinderella Story, Guess Who, The Avengers, Blue Heaven, Defending Your Life, Junior, One True Thing, and Judgment Day. The actor also produced and starred in The Boy on the Train.

Additionally, James Eckhouse's other television credits include Days of Our Lives, High & Mighty, The Good Wife, CSI, Nip/Tuck, Criminal Minds, Once And Again, The Equalizer, and Chicago Hope. Most recently, the actor appeared in Saving Paradise. He also guest-starred on Chicago Med.

Tiffani Thiessen (Valerie Malone)

As Valerie Malone, a smart and daring woman who has trouble trusting people due to her past trauma, Tiffani Thiessen played a main character on Beverly Hills 90210 starting in Season 5. Outside of this series, Thiessen starred as Kelly Kapowski in NBC's Saved by the Bell. She also appeared in Netflix's Alexa and Katie and USA Network's White Collar. Her other television credits include Fastlane, What About Brian, Good Morning Miami, and Two Guys and a Girl. She also hosted Cooking Channel's Dinner at Tiffani's and she's currently the host of Deliciousness, which she also produces. The actress also voiced a character in Jake and the Never Land Pirates.

Away from television, Tiffany Thiessen appears in Son in Law, The Ladies Man, Speedway Junky, Love Stinks, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth, Hollywood Ending, and Cyborg Soldier. Most recently, the TV actress reprised her role as Kate in Peacock's Saved by the Bell, which she also produced.

Kathleen Robertson (Clare Arnold)

Playing the part of Clare Arnold, a cultured, intelligent, and privileged young woman, Kathleen Robertson was a main character in the sixth and seventh seasons of Beverly Hills 90210. Away from this series, Robertson starred in the Canadian sitcom, Maniac Mansion. She also played a prominent part in Starz's Boss. More recently, Robertson played main characters in Murder in the First, The Fixer, and Northern Rescue, as well as a recurring role in Bates Motel. Her other television credits include Tin Man, Girls Club, Law & Order: Criminal Intenet, Medium, Rookie Blue, and CSI: Miami.

Away from TV, Kathleen Robertson can be seen in Scary Movie 2, Beautiful, Psycho Beach Party, Hollywoodland, The Vatican Tapes, Nowhere, I Am Sam, Three Days in Havana, Down the Road Again, and Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden. Most recently, the actress filmed a role in Quibi's Swimming with Sharks, the status of which is unknown on account of the company folding.

There are few shows that had as stellar of a central cast as Oz, the gritty HBO series that featured scores of established stars and up-and-coming talent during its six-season run starting in July 1997. And while fans of the show will find it hard to forget the likes of J.K. Simmons’ Vernon Schillinger, Dean Winters’ Ryan O’Reily, or even Ernie Hudson’s portrayal of Oswald State Penitentiary warden Leo Glynn, there are other members of the cast that many forgot even appeared within the confines of Emerald City.

Below, we will break down some of the forgotten members of the Oz cast and discuss what they did before stepping foot onto one of the most offensive TV shows of all time and what they’ve been up to since. There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s get started…

Luke Perry (Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier)

Luke Perry has long been associated with a different staple of ‘90s TV, Beverly Hills, 90210, but the actor had a small role in the later years of Oz. Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier, a religious zealot sent to prison for embezzlement, was not the most beloved of inmates and ended being buried alive in walls of the prison not once, but twice, before everything was said and done.

Following his stint on Oz, Luke Perry would continue to have a successful career in film and on television with roles in movies like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Riverdale. Perry tragically passed away in March 2019 after suffering two massive strokes before being taken off life support.

Seth Gilliam (Clayton Hughes)

Seth Gilliam, who currently plays the hard-to-kill Father Gabriel on The Walking Dead, was just one of the many Oz actors who would end up in The Wire cast following his short run as corrections officer-turned-inmate Clayton Hughes early in his career. The son of a slain Oswald Penitentiary guard, Hughes would end up being one of the more unhinged characters on the show, who attempted to assassinate Governor James Devlin and Warden Leo Glynn before meeting his fate.

Kathryn Erbe (Shirley Bellinger)

Kathryn Erbe will forever be known for her portrayal of Detective Alexandra Eames on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but before she tracked down cold-blooded murderers, she played one herself on Oz. Featured sporadically throughout the prison drama’s run, Erbe played Shirley Bellinger, who was sentenced to death after driving her car, with her daughter inside, into a body of water. The show’s only female inmate, Bellinger was just as conniving as the rest of the bunch.

In addition to appearing on multiple titles in the Law & Order franchise, Kathryn Erbe has also had roles on shows like Blue Bloods, Elementary, and The Sinner, as well as movies like D2: The Mighty Ducks, Stir of Echoes, and Mistress America.

Eric Roberts (Richard L'Italien)

Eric Roberts had already been nominated for an Academy Award (Runaway Train) by the time he appeared in an extremely brief role in Oz Season 1 as Richard L’Italien, a death row inmate who showed no remorse for his crimes, or fear of his execution, until his final hour had come. With at least 500 television, film, and other credits to his name, Roberts is definitely one of the biggest stars to show up on Oz, especially one that appeared in only one episode partway through the first season in 1997.

Michael Hyatt (Sadiya Khan)

Michael Hyatt, who would go on to appear on The Wire and, more recently, in The Little Things cast, had a one-off appearance on Oz. She portrayed Sadiya Khan, the wife of Hamid Khan, who showed up at Oswald Penitentiary after her husband sustained a severe brain injury in a boxing match. Hyatt would go on to become a prolific actress following her brief Oz appearance, including runs on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Ray Donovan, and Snowfall, which started its fourth season in February 2021.

Melina Kanakaredes (A.D.A Marilyn Crenshaw)

One year before she became a star on the medical drama Providence, Melina Kanakaredes had a small yet explosive role in a 1998 episode of Oz, playing assistant district attorney Marilyn Crenshaw, a character later revealed to be formerly engaged to Kareem Saïd (Chicago Fire’s Eamonn Walker). Already a known entity with performances on New York News, NYPD Blue, and Guiding Light, Kanakaredes would go on to have a lead role in CSI: NY from 2004 to 2010.

Bobby Cannavale (Alonzo Torquemada)

Bobby Cannavale, who recently showed up as a member of the Tom & Jerry cast, and who will soon appear in a number of upcoming movies, including Thunder Force, appeared in the final year of Oz. The one-day Ant-Man star played Alonzo Torquemada, a nightclub owner sent to Oswald for throwing a jar of acid on a victim’s face. In the years following his stint on Oz, Cannavale has appeared in two subsequent crime dramas on the premium channel, Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl.

Mark Margolis (Antonio Nappa)

Mark Margolis is no stranger when it comes to the crime genre, having appeared in everything from Scarface to Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul. Margolis even appeared on Oz, portraying mobster Antonio Nappa, who ends up in Emerald City after killing a man at a strip club. Just one of the many victims of Simon Adebisi, Nappa’s stay at Oswald is brief yet, nonetheless, tough.

David Zayas (Enrique Morales)

David Zayas is probably best known for his portrayal of Angel Batista on Dexter, but prior to the playing Dexter Morgan’s colleague and best friend, the veteran actor appeared on Oz (alongside future co-star Lauren Vélez), as Enrique Morales. Though one of the bigger names on this list, Zayas’ performances is often overshadowed by his Dexter role and even his devious portrayal of Sal Maroni on eight episodes of Gotham.

Edie Falco (Officer Diane Whittlesey)

Edie Falco will forever be remembered for her long-running Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award-winning performances on The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, but before she was known as Carmela Soprano or Jackie Peyton, she made a name for herself as Officer Diane Whittlesey on the first three seasons of Oz. A staple of the first half of the show’s run, Falco’s character added a level of sincerity and honesty to a show that leaned so heavily towards raw and shocking images of violence.

These are just a few of the names who you forgot showed on Oz at some point in the show’s six-season run. And while some of these actors were major stars before or became so after their respective stints in Emerald City, it’s easy to see how they could slip between the cracks, considering all of the talent which anchored the Oz cast for all those years.

The Academy Awards are always contentious, and not just because of who is or isn’t nominated. It seems like every year, there are always a few individuals who are left out of the Oscars’ In Memoriam segment, which honors famous actors and other Hollywood figures who’ve passed away since the previous year’s ceremony. The 92nd Academy Academy Awards was no exception, and among the actors who people felt were slighted was Luke Perry, particularly since he’d appeared in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, one of the Best Picture nominees.

Two days after the latest Oscars extravaganza, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has provided the following explanation for why Luke Perry and others, like Descendants star Cameron Boyce, were left out of the televised tribute (via THR):

So evidently the executive committee in charge of putting together the Oscars’ In Memoriam list had to go through hundreds of candidates, and since the tribute is just a small portion of the ceremony (which was approximately three and a half hours this year), naturally only so many people can be shown in the broadcast. However, Luke Perry and everyone else who was submitted for the list, but didn’t make the cut, can be seen on the Oscars website.

That’s a reasonable explanation, but going a step further, let’s not discount that it was decided to omit Luke Perry because he was better known for his TV work rather than his time in movies. Sure, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was his final appearance, and people also know him from things like the 1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 1997’s The Fifth Element, but he’s arguably more famous for his time on the small screen on shows like Beverly Hills, 90210, Oz and Riverdale.

Looking at the situation through that lens, it would make sense why certain other actors were omitted from the In Memoriam segment, such as Cameron Boyce, who appeared in a scattering of films during his much-too-short career, but was chiefly recognized for his Disney Channel work, especially playing Carlos in the Descendants trilogy. However, that’s trickier territory when it comes to actors like Sid Haig and René Auberjonois whose credits a more even mix of movies and TV.

Luke Perry passed away on March 4, 2019 at the age of 52 after suffering a stroke. At the time, he was playing Fred Andrews on Riverdale, and his final episode aired on April 24, with the Season 4 premiere last September killing the character off. Perry was included in the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards’ In Memoriam segment that same month.

In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Luke Perry played actor Wayne Maunder, who performed in the pilot of the Western series Lancer that Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton guest-starred in. The Quentin Tarantino-directed movie was nominated for nine Oscars, and walked away with two: Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Production Design. For this year's In Memoriam tribute, Billie Eilish performed a cover of The Beatles "Yesterday" alongside her brother, Finneas O'Connell.

Parasite’s surprising and historic big win at last night’s Academy Awards, seems to have assuaged some of the disappointment surrounding the nomination snubs with the general sentiment coming out of the ceremony appearing to be pretty positive. However, there are some new snubs that people are upset about and they have nothing to do with who went home with statues. Actor Luke Perry wasn’t included in the Oscars In Memoriam tribute, and the internet isn’t happy. Take a look:

Thanks to his time on shows like Beverly Hills, 90210 and more recently Riverdale, Luke Perry has amassed a dedicated fanbase and that fanbase is not happy that the actor wasn't recognized in the In Memoriam segment performed by Billie Eilish. Some of them expressed their frustrations with words and colorful language and others couldn't find the words and merely shouted. This snub was even more noticeably since he appeared in the Oscar nominated movie for best picture Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Alongside the outpouring of anger and disappointment, many fans noted the strangeness of Luke Perry's omission in particular from the Oscars In Memoriam segment. Take a look:

This is...an excellent point. In an already long televised ceremony, it is impossible to include every person who passed away that worked in the industry at some level in the Oscars In Memoriam segment. As such, every year people are left out, it's not fair or something to be happy about, but it's the reality of the situation.

However, Luke Perry wasn't retired nor had he faded from the public consciousness when he passed away following a stroke in March of last year. He was still starring on the TV show Riverdale and he actually had a small role in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, one of the most nominated films of this year's Academy Awards. With that factor, such an omission is rather surprising, but alas. So how did it happen? There are some theories on that.

It's true that Luke Perry was primarily known as a TV actor thanks to shows like Beverly Hills, 90210, Riverdale and the oft-forgotten and underrated post-apocalyptic Jeremiah. But as noted above, he was also in movies and not just Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Luke Perry had roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and in the sci-fi classic The Fifth Element during the hilarious "Aziz light!" scene.

And although Luke Perry was primarily known as a TV actor, Kobe Bryant was primarily known as a basketball player and yet he was also honored. It should be noted Kobe did have an Oscar. And Luke Perry was not the only snub at the Oscars In Memoriam tribute.

Horror icon Sid Haig, who had over a hundred credits to his name, including last year's 3 From Hell, was also left out. So too was actor Cameron Boyce who passed away at the age of 20 last year. Also missing was comedy and voice actor Tim Conway, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 85 and Rene Auberjonois who died just this past December.

Those are just a sampling of the omissions and the ones that elicited the greatest internet outrage. This happens every year and I don't know what the solution is to this, if there even is one. Perhaps some sort of montage of everyone's work and instead of giving everyone a specific title card with their name and the role they played in the industry, just do it like movie credits and just have a scrolling list of names. That way you can include as many names as possible without being choosy.

Shannen Doherty, one of TV’s former charmed ones and the recent star of BH90210’s reunion series, announced this week that she has Stage 4 cancer. She broke the news after it was going to come out as part of a lawsuit she is currently involved in related to her insurance coverage following fire damage and she wanted people to know about her re-diagnosis from her personally. In a new interview, she revealed she was even dealing with cancer while working on BH90210.

The actress spoke with Good Morning America this week, noting that not only does she have Stage 4 cancer, this is not her first time fighting a battle with the disease. She was emotional throughout the interview, touching on a lot of the “why me” feelings a lot of people have after being diagnosed, but she says she didn’t want that to stop her from participating in BH90210 after Luke Perry’s death.

Doherty touched on working 16-hour days on the Fox series, despite already having been diagnosed with cancer at that time. Shannen Doherty had been diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2015 and had been open about her treatment following her diagnosis. It also came up as part of an alleged feud with Rose McGowan that later seemed to be settled.

This time around, she didn’t want the news to come out via a lawsuit -- which was about to happen -- so she’s come forward and will be talking about her battle publicly.

In regards to continuing to work long TV hours after her diagnosis, Shannen Doherty did tell GMA that Luke Perry and his early death following a stroke was a factor in her decision to move forward with acting. However, she also said she felt like she wanted to prove that when you get cancer it’s not your only defining factor.

Shannen Doherty credits her co-star Brian Austin Green with keeping her spirits up on the set of BH90210 and she’s continued to work since that series ended, taking gigs in Riverdale and the upcoming How To Make A Deal With The Devil. Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Riverdale Season 4 premiere "In Memoriam." Read at your own risk!

Luke Perry passed away in the midst of Riverdale Season 3, and while the show was able to finish out the season with previously filmed footage of the actor, there was a question of what to do with Fred Andrews in Season 4. The elephant in the room was addressed not long into the Season 4 premiere in which Archie learned his father (Perry's character) had died. The moment set the stage for a tribute episode and a cameo from Perry's former Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Shannen Doherty.

How Fred Andrews Died

Archie received a call while hanging with his friends at Pop's and learned that Fred had been killed after stopping on the side of the road in another town to help a stranded driver. The driver who hit Fred fled the scene, and at the time, F.P. said they didn't know who had hit him. Arrangements were made for Fred's body to be transported back to Riverdale, but his return would have to be delayed until after the upcoming 4th of July celebration.

Who Shannen Doherty Played

That wouldn't do for Archie. With the help of his friends and a hearse Reggie had on standby, Archie and friends decided to drive to retrieve his father, Fred's truck, and find some answers behind his death. The gang visited the truck and site of the accident, and were surprised to see a woman pull up with a bouquet of flowers.

That woman, played by Shannen Doherty, ended up being the woman Fred stopped to help. She wanted to honor the kind man who lost his life helping her, and led the teens in a roadside prayer before they all went their separate ways.

The Person Responsible For Fred's Death Was Revealed

Not long after that Archie received a call from F.P. that the man who hit Fred turned himself in and was out on bail. Archie, always one to take justice into his own hands, found the man's address in the phonebook and rushed to his home to settle the score. After a few tense few moments, he learned that the man who confessed was not responsible for the hit and run, but his teenage son was.

The moment shook Archie, who realized the father did the exact sort of thing Fred would've done for him in that case. Archie left without retribution, and took his father back to Riverdale. The gang was intercepted by F.P., who gave them a police escort through the town where the streets were lined with townsfolk to pay their respects. There were also fireworks shot off that 4th of July weekend, which hadn't been done since the death of Jason Blossom.

How Fred Andrews Will Impact Riverdale Going Forward

Though the episode was closed off with regard to the mystery of Fred's death, Archie did make a vow to live closer to the person his dad was and mature. The episode then ended with a title card to honor Luke Perry, and a sense that Fred Andrews will always have an impact on Riverdale until its conclusion. It was certainly a touching episode that honored Perry, and a tasteful way of addressing the character's exit in a way that marked his legacy on the show forever.

What The Riverdale Cast Is Like Outside Of The Show

Fans were stunned and saddened in early March when Riverdale star Luke Perry died at age 52 after suffering a massive stroke. Perry was an important part of the series, playing Fred Andrews, father and guiding hand to Archie, so many figured that an episode dedicated to sending the character off would be coming at some point before the end of Season 3. While an in memoriam title card did air at the end of Riverdale's March 6 episode shortly after his death, his character won't get an official send off until the Season 4 premiere, and now we know why.

Obviously, the cast and crew of Riverdale were equally shocked by Luke Perry's sudden death, and, according to executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the last the they wanted when working on the rest of Season 3 was to put something together that wouldn't do the actor and the character he played justice. Here's what Aguirre-Sacasa said:

While it was likely a surprise for many of Luke Perry's fans that his death wasn't dealt with on Riverdale in a more direct way by the end of the season, what Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine about their decision to wait makes a lot of sense. Not only did they want to take time to think about the right way to pay tribute to Perry and what he meant to the show, but they also didn't want to have to squeeze such a delicate dedication in among all of the other stories that were going on.

Riverdale is not the kind of show that meanders around with a couple of storylines going at once. The teen-filled neo-noir is packed with treacherous plots, serial killers, backstabbing and questionable motives, actions and people. If they had fit in a true memorial to Luke Perry (and Fred), it probably wouldn't have felt right to them, their audience or his fans. So, it's really best that Aguirre-Sacasa and his team took their hiatus to figure out a way to do it properly.

The Season 4 premiere will tackle both Luke Perry's untimely death and let people know what's happened to Fred since we saw him give Archie one last pep talk in Season 3. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also noted that the episode will take inspiration from a Friday Night Lights episode titled "The Son," which will allow them "to just tell a very grounded, truthful story." If you haven't been treated to that particular episode of television from 2009, you can read a description of it and tell that Riverdale's Season 4 premiere will be a difficult one.

As a risqué show that thrives on pop culture, over-the-top reoccurring gags and shocking bits of humor, Family Guy tries to find different ways to surprise the viewer. More often than not, one of the most surprising aspects of the extended series is the onslaught of celebrity guest stars and cameos that the producers/show-runners have found during the provocative animated Fox series' long-standing run on network TV.

Whether it's Alex Trebek, Johnny Depp, Bob Barker, Simon Cowell, Liam Neeson, the cast of The Simpsons, Ryan Reynolds, Mike Judge's Hank Hill, Bryan Cranston or any of the other high-profile celebrity voices the producers have found in their recording booth, Family Guy has prided itself on its big-name cameos. Here, we aim to celebrate a mere ten standouts from the incredibly long list of short-form star turns on the Seth MacFarlane-created animated sitcom.

First, though, some clarifications. It would be tempting to include some all-time great supporting appearances from Patrick Stewart, the late Carrie Fisher and, of course, the late Adam West. However, these icons were recurring characters as opposed to guest stars. The same goes for Drew Barrymore in the fabulously ditzy role of Jillian. And Conway Twitty?Alas, that's merely archival footage, and not technically a guest star appearance. It's difficult to call someone a guest when they died before the show itself was hard to say that someone made a guest appearance on a hit show if they died years before the show was even in its earliest development stages. And now, let's kick things off!

Cate Blanchett

When one thinks of two-time Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett, Family Guy likely isn't the first reference. Yet, the widely-acclaimed actress did make a guest star appearance on the show, and it wasn't merely a walk-on (or one-line) gag. The thespian played Penelope, the one-time girlfriend of Stewie Griffin (Seth MacFarlane), in the Season 10 episode entitled "Mr. And Mrs. Stewie." Not only that, but in another Season 10 episode, "Family Guy Viewer Mail No. 2," the Australian actress briefly voiced none other than Queen Elizabeth II.

A number of celebrities often make guest appearances to provide a warped perception of their public persona. But it's still rare to see an actress of this caliber lending her voice to the role of a vengeful, chaos-loving toddler who finds herself in a loving relationship with our similarly twisted kiddo, Stewie. It's not something you'd expect, but knowing that Cate Blanchett had a good enough sense of humor to play this role makes her even more lovable and endearing as a high-caliber actress. And she helps to sell what could've easily been a disposable character arc into something that's consistently funny and more emotionally resonant.

Betty White

Betty White is a treasure. The veteran of the stage and screen has been making people laugh for generations, and we will hopefully enjoy Ms. White's company for years to come, Lord willing. While there are countless places where Betty White has delighted the viewing public-at-large, one of the most noteworthy contemporary sources of laughter came from her memorable turn on Family Guy back in Season 4, where the actress played a version of herself reading Peter's erotic fiction in the episode titled, fittingly enough, "Peterotica."

Betty White made an earlier cameo in the Season 2 episode "If I'm Dyin', I'm Lyin'," showing up on Hollywood Squares, as well as in Season 3's "Mr. Saturday Knight." But it was White's Season 4 appearance that cemented her status in the show's legacy (and this list). Having the sweet, gingerly voice of Ms. White read the crude erotic fiction of the sexually bogged patriarch is a combination that's both very wrong and very right. The delightful manner in which she delivers her crude dialogue makes it a stitch, especially when Betty White gets to play herself, outside of reading what Peter wrote on the page. Indeed, it would be hard to top this appearance.

Robert Loggia

Many viewers may not have been so familiar with Robert Loggia until Family Guy made its odd-yet-endearing cutaway joke about his name. The premise was that Peter Griffin once found himself behind the veteran actor while trying to board a plane, but he had no qualms about letting the world know that he is, indeed, Robert Loggia. Can you believe it? It's Robert Loggia. Alas, this appearance was not provided by Loggia himself, despite what some might think. Producer John Viener provided the pipes for the Big actor this time around, but the popularity of the joke turned Loggia back into a regular household name of sorts, even for folks who weren't familiar with the character actor's extensive work.

Possibly in a show of respect for getting his name back out there in a major way, Robert Loggia did eventually make an official cameo appearance on Family Guy. This time around, he was able to play himself without anyone else filling in for Season 9's "Brothers & Sisters." While the unexpected live-action appearance was only one line, it was a delightful, welcomed surprise for long-time Family Guy fans to see the late character actor popping up. And that wasn't even the end of Loggia on the show, as he also came back for a more foul-mouthed appearance in season 11's "Call Girl."

Carol Channing

A legend of Broadway and musical theater, Carol Channing remains one of the biggest figures in musical history. Her squeaky voice and radiant smile were easy to parody, too. (I, myself, particularly enjoyed Ryan Stiles' running impersonation on Whose Line Is It Anyway?). It is hard to top the woman herself, though, especially when she's willing to get in on the joke and have a laugh at her own expense, as she did in the early days of Family Guy.

Carol Channing only made one appearance on Family Guy, but it was certainly a memorable one. The actress appeared in Season 4's "Patriot Games," where the Broadway legend squared off against none other than professional boxer Mike Tyson. As you would expect, things don't necessarily go as planned. While Tyson gets more punches in, Channing is a tough cookie. Anyone who excels on Broadway is certainly a fighter. Sure enough, the actress wins out when Tyson forfeits, resulting in Channing becoming the unexpected winner of the fight.

Norm Macdonald

Often among the more under-appreciated stars of the '90s Saturday Night Live crew, one-time "Weekend Update" correspondent Norm Macdonald hasn't earned the same notoriety as Adam Sandler, Chris Farley or Mike Myers, but he's still one of the funniest sumbitches in the comedy business. It only makes sense that he would find himself on Family Guy, though the role the dry and positive-minded actor played was, perhaps, an unexpected one: specifically, Macdonald portrayed Death.

In the Season 2 episode "Death Is A Bitch," Norm Macdonald found himself playing an unusual, if highly amusing, take on the Grim Reaper. As it turns out, the cloaked figure accidentally twisted his ankle when trying to put Peter Griffin in his eternal sleep, and found himself taking a much-needed vacation. Death being waylaid thus made everyone immortal, which obviously became a problem. Sure enough, Peter Griffin unwittingly has to help Death get back on his feet, which is far from an easy task. Death came back for future episodes, but Macdonald was unable to return, and the role was given to Adam Carolla instead. But Macdonald did came back to read "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" as himself during an episode in Season 16.

James Woods

While James Woods is a controversial figure in his personal life these days, it's hard to deny how funny he could be during his extended guest star appearances on Family Guy. Similar to Adam West and Patrick Stewart, he has appeared on the show enough times that he verges on becoming a fully supporting cast member on the series. But the creative team has always been pretty good about how the semi-annual James Woods appearances get used. Even more thankfully, James Woods was always willing to dig into every absurd idea thrown his way.

James Woods has been a part of Family Guy lore from the get go. His Quahog roots resulted in the local public school being named James Woods Regional High School. But it wasn't long before James Woods became an actual character in the animated series, starting in Season 4 episode, "Peter Gots Woods." From there, much like Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons, the animated Woods has become more bonkers and absurd with each passing year. But the actor was always able to roll with the punches on Family Guy, which resulted in the writers creating very goofy and often enjoyable bits.

Luke Perry

Tragically and very unfortunately, Luke Perry passed away earlier this year. By many accounts, the former Beverly Hills 90210 actor was a very loving and generous man, and he will be missed by many. His lengthy acting career provided him the opportunity for a memorable performance playing himself in Family Guy for the Season 2 episode "The Story On Page One." In it, the actor came into contact with Quahog after Peter Griffin used Meg's name to publish a high school newspaper article claiming that Luke Perry was a closeted gay man. Soon enough, Perry gave Peter Griffin a visit, and lots of celebrity shenanigans ensued.

As we have mentioned in this list, there have been quite a few celebrities who created laughs at their own expense on the crude animated series. But Luke Perry was able to flesh his Family Guy persona out more than simply a walk-on appearance, making this version of Perry his own in the process. It shows that the actor had a good sense of humor, and that he didn't take himself as seriously as his 90210 character, which only makes his death that much harder to take.

Robert Downey Jr.

Before Robert Downey Jr. became a major blockbuster superstar through his career-revitalizing role in 2008's Iron Man, he was certainly trying for a rebound. He starred in a variety of projects, many of which he probably wouldn't find the time to do today, and one of those projects was Family Guy. Downey Jr.'s guest appearance in Family Guy didn't have him playing himself, however, but instead the role of Patrick Pewterschmidt, Lois' long-lost brother.

As it turns out, the producers didn't have to reach out to Robert Downey Jr. Rather, the future Iron Man actor reached out to them, since his son was a big fan of the show. This led to the creation of the Patrick Pewterschmidt character, a handsome and charismatic sibling to Lois Griffin in the Season 4 episode "The Fat Guy Strangler." As you'd expect from that title, things don't go well between Peter Griffin and his malicious long-lost brother-in-law.

Will Ferrell

In the early days of Family Guy, when the animated show had more of a cult following instead of the adoring fandom that it found after its post-cancellation resurrection on Fox, it was a very big deal to land Will Ferrell for a guest star appearance. The actor was well on the rise in the comedy scene as a scene-stealing wild man on Saturday Night Live, and he was only a few years away from becoming a bigger name via Old School and Anchorman.

Will Ferrell first appeared on Family Guy through some bit roles Season 2, it was his memorable turn in the Season Three episode "Mr. Saturday Knight" that helped to cement the actor's high place in the animated show's annals. In the role of The Black Knight, an imposing medieval figure who gives Peter Griffin a hard time about joining the Medieval fair, Will Ferrell was not his usual warm and cuddly self. Indeed, he was an outright antagonistic figure, and it was an interesting turn for early-ish Farrell.

The Cast Of Star Trek: The Next Generation

Seth MacFarlane has made it no secret that he's a big fan of Star Trek, particularly Star Trek: The Next Generation. His newest show, The Orville, is basically a love letter to the franchise, and shows off his lifelong love of sci-fi. Therefore, he has often squeezed in appearances from the Star Trek cast whenever possible, most notably working with Patrick Stewart on numerous occasions, including a supporting role on American Dad and the short-lived Starz comedy Blunt Talk. But it was when he got to reunite the Next Generation cast on Family Guy that he really lived out his fantasy.

While there are several mentions of Star Trek throughout the show, it was in the Season 7 episode "Not All Dogs Go To Heaven" that brought the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation to animated glory. This was a huge get and a huge honor for the show creator, so he clearly wanted to make the most of this opportunity. Sure enough, it resulted in a humorous and memorable episode, and it wasn't the last time they made memorable guest appearances.

Like we said earlier, these are only a handful of the sensational guest star appearances found on Family Guy, and there are are hundreds more (slightly less great) cameos to be found throughout the extended run of the popular and provocative comedy. The entertainment world took a hit back in March when Riverdale star and Beverly Hills 90210 vet Luke Perry passed away after a series of strokes. The ongoing CW drama was able to close out its third season without things getting too derailed, and creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (and the rest of the creative team) is paying tribute to Perry and his character when Season 4 kicks off. And guess what? The actor's former 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty is involved.

It was revealed during Riverdale's panel at San Diego Comic-Con that Shannen Doherty has signed on to take a special guest star role in the Season 4 premiere, which is titled "Chapter 54: In Memoriam." Airing on October 9, the episode will reflect on Luke Perry's long-lasting legacy, which should be an interesting thing to behold, all things considered. Of course, the overall importance that his patriarch Fred Andrews has had on the wild and wacky storylines will also draw focus.

Here's what Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said about the casting, which reflects the two actors' friendship of nearly 30 years:

Though it might have felt a little too on the nose to bring Shannen Doherty to the Riverdale cast in back in Season 1, things are sadly now beyond a point when she and Perry will be able to share the screen together again. Still, that doesn't take away any of the awesomeness that's coming when Doherty takes on this "pivotal" role in the Season 4 premiere.

To be expected, no further details were given about what fans can expect to see for "In Memoriam." And considering how off-kilter Riverdale has been with episodes in the past, one's imagination can run wild with speculation about how the tribute will play out.

I'm hoping to see Riverdale use its current characters to do shot-for-shot remakes of Beverly Hills 90210 scenes that could contextually match up with everything else that's going on. Might be kind of hard to do, considering 90210 didn't feature any groups called The Pretty Poisons or The Southside Serpents, and murder wasn't the biggest M.O. for any of the California teens. But something like that could happen...maybe?

Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty was already set to reunite for the production of the upcoming Fox revival BH90210, which will bring a unique spin to the concept of reunion and revival projects. Unfortunately, Perry died before he was able to take part in the show.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa first revealed the Luke Perry-centered premiere episode right when the Season 4 narratives were officially coming together in June, around two months after Perry's final episode.

Because this was Comic-Con weekend, Riverdale had more to announce than just a super-emotional guest star. It was also revealed that Riverdale's new principal has been cast, and oddly enough, he also used to be on a show that Shannen Doherty starred in.

Kerr Smith, who fans might recognize from The Fosters, Life Unexpected or his stint on Charmed, has been cast as Riverdale High School's new principal, Mr. Honey. (In keeping with the theme of bee-themed authority names, I suppose.) He is set to make his debut in the second episode of the new season, which is punningly titled "Chapter Fifty-Nine: Fast Times at Riverdale High."

Mr. Honey will be a recurring role for Kerr Smith, whose other most recent TV roles came in episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. When he appears as Mr. Honey, Smith will be playing a "bit of a hard-ass" principal, according to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The senior class might want to put more effort into good behavior, because Mr. Honey is going to take a particularly hard line with that group.

Not that Riverdale's students don't know how to break hard lines in all sorts of ways.

But before Kerr Smith's Mr. Honey arrives, Riverdale fans will get to watch the Shannen Doherty-infused tribute to the late Luke Perry. Season 4 will hit The CW's action-packed fall season schedule on Wednesday, October 6, at 8 p.m. ET.

Within a storm of comic book-driven series in the Berlanti Universe, one of the The CW’s most talked-about comic book adaptations happens to be Riverdale, a dark reimagining of the adventures of Archie Andrews and his pals. Since its 2017 debut, fans have obsessed over the splintered romance of Archie and Veronica Lodge (if Archie is not with Betty Cooper at that time), murder mysteries plaguing Jughead Jones, and other perilous high school issues that occur all too commonly in the titular town.

Fortunately, the cast of Riverdale, such as KJ Apa as Archie or Lili Reinhart as Betty, are nothing like their characters (with a few notable exceptions, but more on that later). Yet, due to the series huge popularity, the performers’ lives have become just as much of a topic of interest for its audience.

Riverdale fans wonder if KJ Apa or Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom) are natural redheads, or if Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse’s (Jughead) romantic chemistry goes beyond the script. You may find answers to whatever questions you may have about the Riverdale cast in real life here.

KJ Apa (Archie Andrews)

Taking the role of football player Archie Andrews, the central lead on Riverdale, has been a transformative experience for K.J. Apa. For one, the actor is not really a redhead (which apparently took a 10-hour trip to the salon to achieve), but has dark brown hair naturally, and the role has made him into a sex symbol, which he claims does not bother him.

Born Keneti James Fitzgerald Apa in Auckland, New Zealand on June 16, 1997, KJ Apa is the youngest of three children with two older sisters, Timena & Ari. He started out acting in New Zealand TV dramas, landing first role being on the long-running hospital-set soap opera Shortland Street, and is also a musician, having recorded a solo guitar album at just 14 years old.

Since breaking out on Riverdale as Archie Andrews, he has gone on to roles in notable films like The Hate U Give or Netflix’s The Last Summer. KJ Apa will soon star in Altar Rock, a drama set around the time of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and will play Christian music singer Jeremy Camp in the 2020 biopic, I Still Believe.

Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge)

Technically, Camila Mendes’ first role was as “Sister #1” in an IKEA commercial. Otherwise, her performance as Archie Andrews’ off-and-on high school sweetheart Veronica Lodge on Riverdale is her official debut into the acting world.

Born June 29, 1994, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Camila Mendes also lived in Brazil for a year at 10 years old and is fluent in Portuguese. Coincidentally, she attended New York University the same time as her Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse, but the two did not meet until their casting in 2016.

Breaking out on Riverdale as Veronica Lodge has opened up many doors for the young actress, including appearances in music videos and comedies, like the Netflix film The Perfect Date as Noah Centineo’s crush. Camila Mendes is in for a big year, leading upcoming thrillers Coyote Lake and Windfall, and starring opposite Cristin Milioti and Andy Samberg for the romantic comedy Palm Springs in 2020.

Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones)

If Riverdale’s Jughead Jones looks familiar, you may not have realized you have been growing up with actor Cole Sprouse’s work all your life. Or, you just mistook him for his twin brother, Dylan.

If you did not catch on already, Jughead Jones from Riverdale is also one half of the troublemaking twins from Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, which Cole Sprouse and Dylan Sprouse starred in, along with its spinoff and TV movie follow-up, before taking a break from acting to study geographical information systems at New York University until 2015. Earlier than that, Cole got noticed as Adam Sandler’s accidental son in 1999 Big Daddy, a role he shared with his brother, before playing Ross Geller’s son Ben on Friends.

After his triumphant return to acting on Riverdale, Cole Sprouse has continued to get steady work. He recently played a cystic fibrosis patient in the young adult romantic drama Five Feet Apart and will soon star in the drama Silk Road, a true-life drama about the creation of the black market site the film is titled after.

Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper)

In the original Archie comics, Betty Cooper is an outgoing, happy-go-lucky go-getter. Her Riverdale counterpart, as portrayed by Lili Reinhart, reveals that “perfect girl next door” persona to be merely a front.

On the other hand, Lili Reinhart herself, born September 13, 1996, in Cleveland, Ohio, has been very open about her struggles with anxiety and depression. Probably the one thing that Reinhart has most in common with Betty Cooper as that she is dating her onscreen off-and-on boyfriend (Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones) in real life, as you can see from this Valentine’s Day post from her Instagram:

Before becoming Betty Cooper, Lili Reinhart began acting as a teenager and has since tried her at a variety of different genres, like as the title role in the horror film Lilith or as the high school crush of the central character in the short-lived sitcom Surviving Jack. Later this year, she will star as a stripper-turned-con-artist in Hustlers and a high school journalist in Chemical Hearts, which is currently in production.

Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom)

With her fiery red hair and pouty expression, Madelaine Petsch effortlessly pulls off the devious nature of her Riverdale character Cheryl Blossom. In reality, Petsch is a sweet, talented performer with nothing else to prove but her love for acting.

Madelaine Petsch, who is a natural redhead, was born in Port Orchard, Washington, on August 18, 1994, to South African parents, which is why she had an accent early in life, which she was bullied at school for. She knew she wanted to be an actress at just 3 years old and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting at 18.

Before landing the part of Cheryl Blossom in Riverdale, she could barely get a starring role, with her first credit being “Current Girl #1” in indie horror film The Hive. Now, she is the lead of two upcoming thrillers, Sightless and Clare at 16, based on the novel by Don Roff.

Casey Cott (Kevin Keller)

Kevin Keller was introduced quite late in the Archie comics (about 70 years after its debut) as the series’ first openly gay character. Since Casey Cott was cast as Kevin in Riverdale, rumors about the actor’s sexuality have swirled around since.

Casey Cott, born August 8, 1992, in Michigan, is not gay in real life, but has enjoyed the opportunity of portraying a gay character on Riverdale nonetheless. Kevin Keller is easily his most interesting onscreen role to date, having made music video appearances and small guest spots on TV series like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit previously.

His first foray into acting was as a student of the craft at Boston University, before transferring to Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, and he would partake in various theatrical productions extracurricularly and post-graduation. Casey Cott just recently completed filming the college drama All The Little Things We Kill, due out later in 2019, and is in pre-production on the sports comedy The Mascot.

Luke Perry (Fred Andrews)

Earlier this year, Riverdale lost one of its most important cast members: Archie Andrews’ father, Fred Andrews. Luke Perry died of a stroke a stroke on March 4, 2019, at the age of 52.

The cast of Riverdale paid tribute to Luke Perry following his death through social media. The actor’s final episode as Fred Andrews aired on April 24, 2019, with the remaining episodes of Season 3 writing Fred out as “away on business.” Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has said that the show is waiting until Season 4 premieres to directly address how they will handle Fred’s absence moving forward.

The actor left behind a prolific career in film and, especially, television. Before Riverdale, Luke Perry’s best known role was Dylan McKay on the long-running drama Beverly Hills, 90210. Audiences will see his final film role in July 2019 as actor Wayne Maunder in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones)

Jughead Jones’ father, Forsythe Pendleton “FP” Jones II, has seen many ups and downs throughout Riverdale’s run. Skeet Ulrich plays into the dark mysteries surrounding street-gang-leader-turned-sheriff FP Jones very convincingly, having played a well-known character of hidden sinister intent before.

Born Bryan Ray Trout on January 20, 1970, in Lynchburg, Virigina, Skeet Ulrich’s first film appearance was as an extra in 1989’s cult comedy Weekend at Bernie’s before landing his breakout role as Billy Loomis in Wes Craven’s slasher revival, Scream in 1996. He would go on to star in various film and TV projects before his casting on Riverdale, such as short-lived TV dramas Jericho or Law & Order: LA and even a few guest voice spots on Robot Chicken.

Next up for Skeet Ulrich on the big screen is the sci-fi drama BIOS, which also stars Tom Hanks, in 2020. His latest return to the horror genre, The Mystery of Casa Matusita, is currently in post-production.

Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge)

When questioning who the most ruthless character on Riverdale is, Hermione Lodge, played by Marisol Nichols, makes a great case, having tried to kill her husband twice as a solid argument. Nichols has never been the murderous type - quite the opposite, in fact.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 2, 1973, to a Mexican mother and a Jewish Roman father, Marisol Nichols made her feature film debut as the fourth actress to play Audrey Griswold in 1997's Vegas Vacation, with Chevy Chase reprising his role as bumbling family man Clark Griswold. She went on to a plentiful television career with starring roles in 24, GCB, MTV's Teen Wolf, and many others, as well as a few notable film appearances, such as 2007's Delta Farce opposite Larry the Cable Guy.

When she is not ruffling feathers as Hermione Lodge on Riverdale, Marisol Nichols is adamant in her fight against human trafficking, having visited Congress multiple times to speak about the issue. In 2015, she started the Foundation for a Slavery Free World, which aims to protect children, as well as adults, from falling into the clutches of modern-day slavery of any kind.

Mark Consuelos (Hiram Lodge)

Hemione Lodge has certainly had her moments of villainy, but the most hateful antagonist on Riverdale is more likely to be Veronica Lodge's father, Hiram Lodge. Mark Consuelos plays him like the kind of character soap opera fans scream at through their televisions. The actor's early career served as effective training for the role.

The Spanish-born Mark Consuelos found his breakout role on the long running soap opera All My Children, playing Mateo Santos Sr. from 1995 to 2010. He married his co-star Kelly Ripa in 1996, with whom he has three children.

Outside of acting, Mark Consuelos is a bit of a jack of all trades. He is an athlete, an ordained minister, has a marketing degree from the University of Tampa, and in before starring on All My Children, he worked as an exotic dancer at a club in Florida under the stage name "Meat."

Mädchen Amick (Alice Cooper)

Veronica Lodge is not the only Riverdale character with a strained parental relationship. Imagine being Betty Cooper and having a mom in a cult.

However, the actress who plays Alice Cooper, Mädchen Amick, is not a follower of the dark arts, but her filmography is somewhat shrouded in darkness. The 48-year-old actress landed her breakthrough role at 19 in David Lynch's groundbreaking surrealist noir series Twin Peaks, in the role of Shelly Johnson. She followed that up with a starring role in the Stephen King-penned thriller Sleepwalkers.

While Mädchen Amick's most popular role at the moment would most likely be as Alice Cooper on Riverdale, she has a long eclectic career in television, featuring recurring roles on series like Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls, American Horror Story, and the Twin Peaks revival in 2017. An actor cannot help but feel safe around a veteran of her prowess.

Riverdale Season 4 will debut on The CW later this year on October 9.

Riverdale has aired Luke Perry's final scene on the series, as Fred Andrews tried to console Archie after he accidentally killed a fighter during a boxing match. Archie knew drugs played a factor in his opponent's death, but still felt responsibility for going through the fight knowing the fighter was juicing. Fred was the voice of reason, and told his son not to be so hard on himself.

The scene was good and a fitting end considering pep talks were one of the best things Luke Perry's Fred gave the show. With that said there was no further story on Fred the rest of the episode, and if fans didn't know it was impossible for Perry to do more scenes, one wouldn't expect his story to be over from there. So what's next for Fred Andrews with Luke Perry gone?

That's the question Riverdale viewers should be asking, as someone out of the loop may be expecting to see Fred pop up again next episode with a smile on his face. The episode ended with no farewell to Fred, no plot-twist that brought about his death, or scene that explained what he's up to. Fans were left hanging, with the conclusion seemingly meaning Fred's fate will be addressed in a future episode.

Which means there's still a plethora of futures for the character on the table. For example, the rather uneventful scene may mean that Riverdale is considering recasting Fred Andrews, and having him pop back in the picture like nothing happened. It wouldn't be the first time Riverdale recast a notable character's role, although one would think this recasting would be met with backlash given the circumstances of Luke Perry's passing.

Then again, is the answer killing off Fred Andrews? That could be seen as equally insensitive to some, despite the fact that Riverdale tends to use death quite a bit when writing off characters. That does make it an option, of course, as all the show needs is a body double for a scene or a character to explain his death happened off-screen.

This feels unlikely, however, given all that's happening in the story. Archie losing his father in the midst of all that's happening would run the risk of derailing the story that's been in the works since the beginning of Season 3. If Fred's death happened at the end of the season as a cliffhanger, however, that may make it easier to pull off.

After weeks of on-screen appearances following Luke Perry's untimely death, Riverdale has finally reached the end of its scenes that feature Perry. Creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared the upcoming episode "Chapter Fifty-Four: Fear the Reaper" is the last one Perry filmed, and shared a touching message on what it entails.

As has been the case in Riverdale's past three seasons, Luke Perry's Fred Andrews will share some life lessons and wisdom with the often-wayward Archie. It's a fitting way to bring Luke Perry's time on the show to an end, although it still hasn't been said if this will be the final appearance of Fred Andrews. Given the suddenness and unexpected nature of Perry's passing, it doesn't seem likely the show planned for the character to have a farewell scene.

If that's the case, Riverdale will likely either have the show's characters explain away his absence in future episodes, or use a body double to film some scenes that create an exit for the character. Cole Sprouse recently confirmed on The View that there is some narrative plan in place that will presumably explain away the absence.

The plan Cole Sprouse speaks of would seem to imply that Riverdale has no plans to recast the role of Fred Andrews, although that hasn't been explicitly confirmed by anyone on The CW series. Fans responded to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Twitter with requests not to recast the character, with one popular response saying no one can play the role like Luke Perry did.

With only a handful of episodes left before the Season 3 finale, it's a question of whether or not fans will find out what Riverdale is doing with Fred Andrews by the season's end. Production was halted after his passing, which may have given the writers and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa a way to explain his exit. The showrunner didn't mention anything like that in his tweet, so it's also possible answers on the character's status won't be answered until Season 4.

Which may not be the worst thing considering the impact his sudden death had on his family, fans, and the Riverdale cast. If Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and crew wanted to take some time to mourn and distance themselves from the situation in order to figure out the right exit for Fred, that might be a better decision than writing something in haste and potentially coming up with an exit people aren't all that happy with.

Of course, there's no pleasing everyone, so whatever Riverdale does to Fred Andrews from here on out likely won't sit well with some. That's fine, provided the exit honors the legacy of the actor and what he's given to the show as best it can. As long as Riverdale doesn't anger Luke Perry's family or a majority of fans with its decision, one would think that exit is good enough.

Since ‘90s heartthrob actor Luke Perry passed away earlier this week, his family, friends and former co-stars have shared an outpour of grief and love for the late actor, who died at the age of 52 on Monday after being hospitalized for a “massive” stroke a few days prior. During Perry’s early Beverly Hills, 90210 fame, the actor starred in the first crack at Buffy the Vampire Slayer before Joss Whedon developed it into the fan-favorite teen drama.

The tribute to Luke Perry from the end of Riverdale's March 6 episode was short and simple, but it honored the actor who turned Fred Andrews into one of the most heartfelt characters on a show filled with folks not to be trusted. Unsurprisingly, the episode did not end Fred Andrews' story in any way, although Perry did appear.

However the show writes out Fred Andrews -- or at least, Luke Perry's version of Fred Andrews, as we can't rule out a recast at this point -- will be revealed down the road once Riverdale runs out of footage filmed before the actor passed away. There are a number of ways it could happen, ranging from a recast to a happily-ever-after off-screen to an untimely end for the character.

The tribute to Luke Perry via "in memoriam" card likely didn't come as a surprise to all viewers, and not just because it's become something of a tradition for TV shows to honor the deaths of key contributors, even if they're no longer on board. Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre Sacasa shared an image of the Riverdale team on Twitter and revealed that the upcoming episode would be dedicated to Perry:

In his tweet, Roberto Aguirre Sacasa mentions that all episodes of Riverdale will be dedicated to Luke Perry "for the rest of our run." Does this mean that Riverdale will continue specifically honoring Perry, or that the Riverdale team will honor him in spirit? Only time will tell, but his words do indicate that Fred Andrews' story (assuming the character is not recast) will be handled in a way that respects everything that Perry brought to the role.

The death of Luke Perry has, unsurprisingly, affected many in the Riverdale family as both the cast and crew have mourned his passing, and production was suspended on set. Meanwhile, the decision makers have to figure out the show's next move, and how the character of Fred Andrews will move forward from this point on. Will Fred continue on through another actor, or will the show find a way to write him off?

I'm not sure which option Riverdale will pick, but I can say that I don't think the show should continue Fred's story without Luke Perry. The man has been the show's most wholesome character since the very beginning, and to bring anyone else to replicate what he's done thus far would be a mistake. This is especially true given Roberto Aguirre Sacasa's recent update, which confirmed Perry's Fred will appear in an upcoming episode.

At the moment, Season 3 of Riverdale has yet to wrap production. This means there's still episodes to film, and with the Roberto Aguirre Sacasa stating Luke Perry will be featured in an episode post-passing, an actor change midseason would just be jarring. That's especially true if Perry has other scenes going forward, and there's a possibility the character would change from one actor to the other without a long gap in between performances.

Regardless of the casting, it would be even more jarring because Luke Perry and KJ Apa really had the father-son dynamic down pat. The two vibed like few other actors on Riverdale can, and fans will certainly miss the heart-to-hearts they've shared over the past few seasons. Even if an actor was found who really replicated that relationship, it'd be hard to get behind because Perry and Apa did their collaborative scenes so incredibly well.

That dynamic and relationship Riverdale has painstakingly established complicates this exit, unfortunately, and makes a scenario where Fred gets to ride off into the sunset less than ideal. While shows have gotten away with sending characters whose actors can't return far away and forgetting about them, it doesn't really work in this instance.

Sure, Fred has spent time away from Archie, but only when the situation was absolutely necessary. He's not the type to leave Riverdale and make his son face down the various criminals and killers that are all out to get him. No, Fred would stick it out until the bitter end, and changing that part to write him out with a happy ending would be contradictory to the character.

Which is why Riverdale would be best served with writing Fred off by having him die. It may sound insensitive given real life events, but most fans recognize that death is more or less The CW series' brand. Many characters have been killed off in this show, and Luke Perry's character wouldn't be the last. Plus, given the context of Season 3, there's actually a way for it to happen with as little interruption to the season as possible.

Riverdale is in the throes of the Gargoyle King mystery, and with Fred Andrews a member of The Midnight Club, he could end up being a target of this twisted game. Granted, a recent episode seemed to show the kids were more at risk, but it wouldn't be crazy to think some event happens that inevitably ends in Fred being killed. New scenes would be shot if that wasn't the original plan, and a body double could do the scenes.

Of course, this all only works if Riverdale hasn't already shot all of Luke Perry's scenes, and he's technically wrapped on Season 3 even if episodes are still filming. That isn't necessarily a deal-breaker for killing off Fred, but it does mean he can't just be randomly offed by the Gargoyle King unless his future filmed scenes were cut to shape the story in that way. Again, we're not sure what Riverdale is planning, so we can't definitively say.

In the case that Fred's story is all plotted out and he's featured in the rest of Season 3, Fred could still be killed off. Saving his exit for Season 4 would buy Riverdale's writing staff some time to properly plot out a story, and also work through all the story nuances that come with the death of such a significant character.

Which is something that needs to happen, because Archie can't just lose his dad and trudge on. His dad means too much to him for that to happen, so if Fred is gone, Archie needs to be impacted in a major way. As easy as it may be to write Fred off via the Gargoyle King, perhaps the last half of Season 3 isn't the best time to do that if the show can't properly address it.

Because let's face it, Riverdale will be a different place without Fred Andrews. Provided there's no recasting, the town will have lost one of its best men, and one of the few always ready to rise up on the right side of an argument and fight. His exit won't just affect Archie, but also those on Riverdale who counted on him to be that person, and another character will likely need to fill that role.

To be honest I'm not sure any character currently can, but it would be nice to see Molly Ringwald have a stronger recurring presence if Fred is gone. Mary Andrews doesn't have quite the same parenting skills that Fred does, and her and Archie don't have that same dynamic. Perhaps there's an opportunity in this situation to have them figure that whole thing out, and have Mary step in and try to be Fred as opposed to recasting Fred.

All these suggestions are coming from someone who doesn't have the full picture, and can only speak from a fan's perspective. The reality is that the cast and crew have an obligation to the story, and will have to pick a way of moving forward that does as little as possible to delay the rest of the season. Judging from the love and respect everyone involved has shown towards Luke Perry, it seems they'll make the best call they can.

This week, people around the world were disheartening to learn that actor Luke Perry passed away at the age of 52. The film and television actor, best known for his work on Beverly Hills 90210 and, most recently, Riverdale, suffered a massive stroke on Thursday, and he was considered to be in critical condition. While there were many hoping and praying that the veteran performer would make it out on the other side, he was met with his untimely death on Monday.

Though there are no shortage of remembrances to be found, one in particular stands out: Sophie Perry, the daughter of the late Luke Perry. On Instagram, she responded to her father's passing by posting the following memorial/tribute.

As Sophie Perry writes in her heartfelt farewell to her father on the social media site, "everything" that happened this week occurred "so fast." It would be difficult for anyone to process it in full at this time -- let alone the late actor's only daughter.

Nevertheless, Sophie Perry is thankful for all the kind souls who reached out in droves to express remorse. The 18-year-old claims she made it back home just in time to "be here" with the family during this tough time. While the daughter of the late actor is undoubtedly grieving the loss of her father, Sophie writes that she has been warmed and blessed by the "overwhelming" showcase of support she has received from friends, family and complete strangers on the Internet this week.

There's a lot of love being directed her way, and she realizes that her dad had an extreme impact on many fans and viewers around the world. And though she can't respond to each-and-every response individually, Sophie Perry wants the world to know that she appreciates them wholeheartedly. While she doesn't know what to "do or say" at this time, Perry wants to express her thanks and appreciation for everyone who made an effort to show their grievances and support this week.

As Sophie Perry sorrowfully notes, there is no guidebook for what you can do during this situation. It's hard to make sense of something this shocking happening so fast, and so sudden. But while she continues to make sense of this difficult situation, and hopefully find some peace along the way, she is gratified and humbled by the large number of people who have provided their support during this time of loss. With that, the daughter asks that everyone "bear with" her as she continues to be grateful "quietly." Away from social media.

The loss of a parent, especially so prematurely, is extremely difficult. And when they're a celebrity, there's an extra spot light placed on the grieving process. There's no denying that, and there are no easy answers for how to move forward during this heartbreaking time. Luke Perry made a name for himself in showbiz with a career the spanned decades and a variety of roles, although he may always be best remembered for his role as the gold-hearted bad boy Dylan from Beverly Hills, 90210. Luke Perry contributed to The Simpsons in the Season 4 episode called "Krusty Gets Cancelled," which saw him play a fictionalized version of himself. The Simpsons version of Luke Perry was actually Krusty the Clown's estranged half-brother who became a big TV star while Krusty was less of a mainstream success. Sideshow Luke Perry was even better at making balloon shapes than Krusty was, which understandably didn't rub Krusty the right way.

Since this is Krusty the Clown we're talking about, he didn't just accept Sideshow Luke Perry's success without making the effort to sabotage him. As producer (and then co-showrunner) Mike Reiss said, Luke Perry was shot out of a cannon on the show.

Unfortunately for the animated Luke Perry, he was shot waaaaaaaaaay out of the cannon, going face-first through windows, bottles of acid, and a sandpaper museum before landing safely in a pillow factory. Alas for Luke Perry and his valuable face, the pillow factory was demolished on top for him. He survived the ordeal, however, and attended an after-party.

The man who could brood like a champ in live-action and win the hearts of Beverly Hills, 90210 fans everywhere could also scream hilariously for an animated guest spot. Luke Perry was no Dylan McKay as Sideshow Luke Perry, and his scenes on The Simpsons are as funny now as they were then, even if the joke about Fox doesn't land as well in 2019. Perry's most recent TV gig was as Archie's dad on The CW's Riverdale.

The past week has been an extremely stressful one for the family and friends of film and TV star Luke Perry, who had been in the hospital after suffering a massive stroke. Now, it's being reported that Perry has in fact died. He was 52 years old.

Luke Perry had been in the hospital for the past five days, and was reportedly under heavy sedation, with the hopes that it would give the actor's brain a chance to heal in the aftermath of his stroke. Unfortunately, those efforts could not reverse the damage, and TMZ reports that Perry passed away in Burbank's St. Joseph's Hospital on Monday morning.

The Los Angeles Fire Department had confirmed that paramedics were called and dispatched to Luke Perry's home in Sherman Oaks, California on the morning of Wednesday, February 27. It was later revealed that it was indeed Perry who was taken to a nearby hospital, and that he'd suffered a massive stroke.

On the same day that Luke Perry was hospitalized for his stroke, Fox put in an order for a limited series that will bring back some of the original cast members from Beverly Hills, 90210 for a follow-up project that also draws upon the actors' real lives. Perry wasn't part of the initial announcement for the project, but it had been stated previously that the actor would attempt to film as many 90210 episodes as his Riverdale schedule would allow.

Sadly, Perry's death happened before that project went into production. It will now be interesting to see how the show's creative team chooses to acknowledge it, and whether or not his character Dylan McKay will face a similarly emotional fate.

On a similar note, his Riverdale character Fred Andrews has been a big part of The CW drama's storyline. So it's highly possible that the show's writers will need to find a way to explain Fred's absence for future episodes, assuming Season 3's scripts aren't already finalized.

Born in Ohio on October 11, 1966, Luke Perry aimed for an acting career early in his adult live, moving to Los Angeles not long after he was done with high school. His earliest TV roles were for the soap operas Another World and Loving, but it wasn't long before he locked down the role of Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210, which he starred on for its first six seasons before vacating the show. (He later returned as a special guest star.)

As it was reported by Variety, paramedics quickly went to Luke Perry's Los Angeles residence after they received a call from that address on Thursday morning. Shortly thereafter, he was taken to a hospital located nearby. The actor's medical status is currently unclear at this time, although it was believed that Perry's condition was critical. He is currently "under observation" at the hospital, according to his reps.

In addition to his popular part on Beverly Hills 90210, where he played the role of Dylan McKay, Luke Perry is well-known for his ongoing role on Riverdale, where he plays the role of Archie's dad. The terrible news is particularly unlucky since it comes out only one day after it was announced by Fox that Beverly Hills 90210 would be the latest retro show to return to television for a six-episode revival.

Fellow former Beverly Hills 90210 cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling are all slated to return. Perry's involvement with this recently-revealed renewal was left unclear due to his involvement with the popular series on The CW. However, Spelling said Perry would be incorporated into "as many" episodes "as he can do" with this revival, which makes the medical news all-the-more disheartening to hear.

In any case, this news is deeply unfortunate for fans of Luke Perry. The TV actor is only 52, and he is in the midst of a new career high with the continued success of Riverdale and his prominent involvement with the quirky graphic novel adaptation.

At this time, neither The CW nor Warner Bros. Television has made a public announcement about Luke Perry's sudden medical emergency. Bwahaha, the '90s will never die! So far, six of the original Beverly Hills, 90210 stars have signed on for a reboot-of-sorts. The scripted project is currently being pitched to both broadcast networks and streaming services, with multiple buyers reportedly showing interest.

Deadline reports that original cast members returning at this point include Jennie Garth (Kelly Taylor), Tori Spelling (Donna Martin), Jason Priestley (Brandon Walsh), Ian Ziering (Steve Sanders), Brian Austin Green (David Silver), and Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea Zuckerman).

Four of those six -- Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, and Brian Austin Green -- are the only ones to appear across the entire 10-season run of Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 2000 on Fox.

The new CBS TV Studios production is said to not be a traditional reboot. The only other hint on what it will be is an apparent connection to that 90210-related series Tori Spelling and Jenni Garth mentioned earlier in 2018, with the two stars reportedly playing over-the-top versions of themselves.

TMZ paps just recently shared photos of the stars getting coffee together between pitch meetings with suits at Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. The group was joined by some writers and producers, ostensibly to pitch bringing back Beverly Hills, 90201 almost 30 years after its premiere.

But, based on Deadline's report and the Tori Spelling/Jennie Garth pitch from several months ago, it sounds like it won't be a traditional reboot or revival.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise -- yes, franchise -- includes five shows at this point: the original, Melrose Place, Models Inc., the 90210 reboot, and another Melrose Place. These trend-setters were creating reboots long before the current craze took off.

Whatever happens with this new reboot/revival/whatever, it really needs Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh) and Luke Perry (Dylan McKay) to jump on board. Otherwise, they'll have to pull a Fuller House and frequently reference their absence -- like Michelle Tanner/the Olsen Twins.

Just a couple of years ago, Luke Perry had said the whole cast was interested in getting back together for a reunion:

Since then, though, Luke Perry landed a role on The CW's Riverdale as Archie Andrews' dad, Fred; he was also announced as part of the cast of Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Maybe he's too busy for this 90210 thing? For her part, Shannen Doherty has been battling breast cancer for the past few years, but the original Heathers star was able to appear in some episodes of that reboot.

A few months ago, Ian Ziering said the 90210 cast all talked about reuniting and figured it was just a matter of time. Now it sounds like he's on board for this, but Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty may not be, at least at this point.

It's early days, though, since they're currently just shopping a show around. Stay tuned for any updates. Since it will be 30 years in 2020 since Beverly Hills, 90210 premiered, that does sound like the perfect milestone for some kind of TV reunion/revival/reboot. In the meantime, the fall 2018 schedule is basically done, but here's what's coming to TV screens in midseason 2019.

For Quentin Tarantino's supposedly penultimate film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the auteur is seemingly trying to put together one of the most absurdly stacked casts ever assembled. The cast already featured the usual suspects of frequent Tarantino collaborators, as well as exciting talent that will be working with the director for the first time. At the head of the cast are Leonardo DiCaprio as former Western TV star Rick Dalton and Brad Pitt as his stunt double Cliff Booth. Now, joining Quentin Tarantino's 1969 Hollywood and Manson family murders pastiche are a lot of new names in some intriguing roles. Among them is Billions actor and Golden Globe winner Damian Lewis.

According to Deadline, Damian Lewis will play Hollywood icon Steve McQueen in the film. The Great Escape and Bullitt actor enjoyed the heights of his fame and popularity in the '60s and '70s. The ultra-cool, super smooth Steve McQueen was a friend of actress Sharon Tate, and according to legend, he was supposed to attend the actress' dinner on the fateful night when the Manson family killed her, only to escape that fate by going off with a mistress. Including Steve McQueen in the film shows that all of the major figures adjacent to the Manson murders will be accounted for in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. To that end, several other newcomers to the cast will join Damian Lewis.

Also bolstering this cast are Emile Hirsch and Dakota Fanning. Emile Hirsch will play Jay Sebring, the Hollywood hairstylist who was one of the Manson family victims at Sharon Tate's house. On the other side of things is Dakota Fanning. The actress who is appearing in this weekend's Ocean's 8 will portray Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, the Manson family member who in 1975 attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford.

Veteran actor Nicholas Hammond, who was Friedrich in The Sound of Music and played Peter Parker in the 1977-1979 series The Amazing Spider-Man, joins Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as director Sam Wanamaker. An actor and TV director in the '60s and '70s, you can imagine he may be part of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt's characters' stories. Luke Perry, who currently stars on the gleefully absurd TV series Riverdale, will be playing a character named Scotty Lancer, which could be the character from the 1968-1970 TV Western Lancer, played by Wayne Maunder.

Last but certainly not least are Clifton Collins Jr. and Keith Jefferson. Clifton Collins Jr., who is currently playing the host Lawrence on Westworld, will play someone called Ernesto the Mexican Vacquero, who sounds like a very Tarantino-ish character. Keith Jefferson, who had small parts in Tarantino's Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight, will rejoin the director for a third time as Land Pirate Keith.

Just reading who all of these actors are playing you can see how this movie will have a very Pulp Fiction-eque feel with a lot of intersecting stories and adjacent characters to weave a compelling Hollywood tale. These actors join an already ridiculous cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Timothy Olyphant and Burt Reynolds in the film. So I'm assuming the poster for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will just be a super long list of all the talent involved.

Once upon a time, Beverly Hills, 90210 was the hottest high school drama on TV. Originally set in the upscale Beverly Hills, the show followed a group of high school friends through issues ranging from romance to substance abuse to murder. It ended up running for a whopping ten seasons and followed key characters through college and beyond from 1990-2000. Now, actor Luke Perry has weighed in on whether or not the Beverly Hills gang would be the next to get together for a reunion, saying this:

Luke Perry played bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold Dylan McKay through the years on Beverly Hills, 90210. Dylan is perhaps most memorable for his role in two of the most melodramatic and ongoing primetime soap opera love triangles of TV history. He was the center of the triangle that pitted Kelly and Brenda against each other, ultimately choosing Kelly when Shannen Doherty left the series, then became a leg of the love triangle with Kelly and Brandon that led to Kelly dropping her immortal "I choose me" line. His reveal to ET Online that he'd be on board for a Beverly Hills reunion means that we could some day be in for even more romantic complications.

A lot would undoubtedly depend on how many of Luke Perry's former castmates would also be on board to get back together. Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, and Tori actually reprised their roles as Kelly, Brenda, and Donna for the 90210 sequel series that aired on The CW from 2008-2013. Dylan was mentioned on The CW series, and viewers discovered that he and Kelly actually had a child together, but he didn't appear.

The story of the Beverly Hills, 90210 clearly kept going even after the series finale, and a reunion could let us see what shenanigans the whole crew has gotten up to over the past 17 years or so. Honestly, I'd even be on board for a reunion of a few minutes. If Love Actually can do it, why not Beverly Hills, 90210?

Luke Perry is currently part of the ensemble of another primetime teen drama, but he's part of the adult generation this time around. He plays Archie's dad on the new CW series Riverdale, which has just been renewed for a second season. Even if the whole Beverly Hills, 90210 crew doesn't get back together for a reunion, we can at least enjoy watching Perry back in the midst of teen melodrama once again.
