If somebody says, “Macaulay Culkin,” I guarantee that 9 out of 10 people will likely think of Home Alone, which I suppose makes sense since it’s such a beloved classic, and Macaulay Culkin is the face of it.

For a lot of people, Christmas isn't Christmas without Home Alone, so for many, Macaulay Culkin represents the holiday itself. However, what if I were to tell you that one of his best NON-Home Alone movies wasn't just My Girl or The Good Son, but also a 2003 crime drama called Party Monster about the ‘90s New York City club scene?

If you’ve watched it, cool. But if you haven’t, let's talk. Oontz oontz oontz!

Firstly, Party Monster Was Essentially Macaulay Culkin's Return To Acting

Take a look at Macaulay Culkin's filmography, and you'll see that he had an extremely busy 90's (he's even in one of my favorite horror movies, Jacob's Ladder!). However, you’ll also notice that his career came to a screeching halt after 1994’s Richie Rich. In fact, when looking at his best movies, you'll likely surmise that most of his best films are from when he was a child.

In pursuit of actually living a “normal” life, he decided to leave acting for an extended hiatus, and when he returned, it was with a way different image in the movie, Party Monster, which is based on James St. James’ memoir, Disco Bloodbath.

In the film, Culkin plays the real-life club promoter, Michael Alig, a.k.a the “King of the Club Kids,” while Seth Green plays his friend, James St. James, who really introduces Alig to the club scene in the first place. Culkin’s role is surprising in this film, though, because he plays a drug addict who later becomes a criminal, which is a far cry from playing Richie Rich, I'll tell you that much.

If You Have Any Sort Of Desire To Learn More About The New York Club Culture, This Is Your Movie

Another reason why I think more people should talk about this film - besides Macaulay Culkin, of course - is to learn more about the club scene back in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Now, growing up in the ‘90s, I clearly remember three things about people who went clubbing on a regular basis - one, they always had glowsticks on hand, two, they were perfectly okay with hooking up with sweaty strangers, and three, they were usually fond of drugs…typically ecstasy.

And, this movie definitely covers two out of the three quite well, as there’s lots of sex, and lots of drugs. But, what I also like about the film is how it covers the LGBTQ+ aspects of the New York club scene. Marilyn Manson is in the movie, vamping it up, and Macaulay Culkin plays an openly gay character in Michael Alig, and it’s all just wonderful to see.

Not so wonderful is the drug use. In fact, all of the problems Michael Alig experiences (including his ultimate crime) are due to drugs, and the problems that come along with them. That’s why this film really resonates with me, since I knew kids who were deeply into drugs and partying, and sometimes took me along for the ride (I peaced out, though, when they started popping pills). This movie showcases all of that really well.

It's An Early 2000s Gem, And One You Should Check Out To Take You Back To The '80s and ‘90s

Though I wouldn’t consider Party Monster to be one of the best movies of the 2000s, I would say that it’s one of the best representations of a certain part of the ‘90s.

Party Monster is loud, colorful, in your face, and violent, but it also has a sort of strange detachment to it all. A lot of this is due to Caulkin’s performance, but it also has to do with the filmmaking itself, which puts us at the heart of the club scene, but also feels like it’s keeping us away somehow.

It’s a film that, if you lived in that era, you’ll recognize the whole vibe and energy. And, if you happen to miss that bygone time, might I suggest this early 2000s gem?

Brenda Song and her fiancée, Macaulay Culkin, are the ultimate couple's goals. They became engaged after the birth of their first son in 2022 and have continued to be inseparable. If you’re in the mood for more cuteness to brighten your day, the former Disney Channel star shared pics of her leather cutout dress, and Culkin had a sweet five-word response to follow.

The American actress may have played a fashionista on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (streaming now on your Disney+ subscription), but she brings her glam fashion choices to the real world, too. On her Instagram account, Brenda Song showed off pics of the leather cutoff dress she wore at the 2026 Golden Globes, and she’s looking flawless:

The Social Network actress clearly knows how to rock the leather. As you can see in her photo carousel, Brenda Song’s black dress is bringing all kinds of beauty with its daring midriff cutouts. I’m sure Macaulay Culkin must have felt like the luckiest man at the event to have a gorgeous plus-one by his side on the red carpet. (Not to mention every other day in life.)

Don’t think that her bold look escaped him, either. (His own wide-eyed look was marketing unto itself for Home Alone.) Culkin made sure to sum up his thoughts on Song’s black dress in a sweet five-word response:

I think he's gonna get his wish, guys.

Not only does the former child star have Song’s digits, but he’s had her heart for the past seven years. If you can believe it, the American actress was initially “thoroughly unimpressed” by the My Girl actor when they met through his friend, Seth Green, at which point Culkin joked about Song’s show Dads getting cancelled. Tsk-tsk.

While their first meeting ended a bit hostile, the two were forced to reunite when Green had them star in his 2017 movie Changeland. But this time around, the co-stars hit it off and then slowly fell in love before becoming engaged. Now, Culkin’s got a ring on her finger, and they’re the parents of two kids. There's no word yet on when the pair will tie the knot.

Other than Macaulay Culkin sending sweet comments Brenda Song’s way, there have been other examples of the two being adorable with one another. They did the most cinematic couples photoshoot filled with plenty of PDA on their bedroom mattress. The loving partners also provided their voices for Zootopia 2. Sure, they may have played siblings, but I’m still holding out hope for the moment they star in a future rom-com.

If Brenda Song keeps fashioning these leather cutoff dresses, Macaulay Culkin won’t be “home alone” anymore, if you know what I’m saying. She’s incredibly lucky to have a future husband who’s not afraid to pay a compliment to his leading lady.

The entertainment world lost a legend, as the shocking news of Catherine O’Hara’s death came Friday. The actress known for TV and movies including in Home Alone, Best in Show, Schitt’s Creek and so many others unquestionably affected countless people over her five-decade career. And former co-stars including Macaulay Culkin, Pedro Pascal and Michael McKean are paying tribute to the comedy icon.

One of Catherine O’Hara’s most beloved roles was as Kate McCallister in Home Alone — a Christmastime staple and one of the best movies of the ‘90s overall. I’m not even sure it’s possible to say the name, “Kevin!” without doing your best O’Hara impression. Macaulay Culkin — Kevin McCallister himself — took to Instagram with a photo from the movie and another from a more recent reunion between him and O’Hara, penning a heartbreaking message to his on-screen mother:

One of Catherine O’Hara’s last roles was on The Last of Us Season 2, and Pedro Pascal shared a sweet photo of the two of them on set, writing that there is “less light in my world” without her in it:

Not many details about Catherine O’Hara’s passing were immediately available, with a rep confirming to Rolling Stone only that she died at her home in Los Angeles “after a brief illness.”

It’s unclear how this will affect The Studio Season 2, as production kicked off just last week on what will be known as her final role. Ike Barinholtz — one of her co-stars on the award-winning comedy — posted a photo to Instagram to say how “incredibly grateful” he is to have known her:

It’s clear from the reactions we’ve seen already how beloved Catherine O’Hara was and how much of an impact she’s made in Hollywood. Our condolences go out to her family, friends and everyone affected by her death.

For someone who popped up on the 2025 movies calendar and the streaming schedule, Macaulay Culkin is surprisingly firm about one thing: he’s retired. Or at least, retired in the way that makes sense to him. The My Girl actor has never fully stepped away from the spotlight, but he’s also never gone back to chasing roles. Overall, he's built a career that runs entirely on his own terms, even if that means redefining what “retired” means.

That mindset came into focus during a recent appearance on the SmartLess podcast, where Culkin spoke candidly about why acting is no longer something he feels obligated to do. After years as one of the most famous kids in the world, he reached a point where he felt finished, both creatively and financially. The Home Alone star explained:

Speaking candidly, the former child star said retirement isn’t a goal for him, but it’s his default setting. Acting only happens when something genuinely appeals to him. He continued:

Part of what allowed Culkin to make that decision was money. Unlike many former child stars, including SmartLess host Jason Bateman, who shares more than a few parallels with the Uncle Buck breakout, The Good Son performer said he received the bulk of his earnings early on. That put him in a rare position where he didn’t need to keep working just to stay afloat, giving him the freedom to walk away without the pressure to look back.

Bateman, for his part, noted that he didn’t have that same luxury, explaining that he felt constant pressure to keep his grades up to maintain his acting permit, pay the bills, and continue working. Culkin’s version of retirement is something I could totally get behind. He doesn’t need to prove anything, rebuild anything, or stay visible. He shows up when he wants to, disappears when he’s done, and treats every job like the final chapter.

When Macaulay Culkin appeared on Mythical Kitchen, he got candid about how he didn’t want the “sins” of his dad to pass on to his children. With his role as a father, the Richie Rich actor expressed wanting to break generational cycles. In fact, Culkin said he’s incorporated a special word into his kids' lives that his parents “never” said to him, and I feel like I want to cry:

That’s one of the saddest things to discover that a child was never told by their parents how proud they were of them. All kids want to feel like their parents are their biggest fans. But based on Culkin’s claims, it appeared the child star’s mom and dad saw a star compared to a child.

As Macaulay Culkin is now in his mid 40s, he’s been more honest about his troubled relationship with his dad. As Kit Culkin was the father and manager of one of the most bankable child stars, he was allegedly controlling and verbally abusive. The New York City native even said his Uncle Buck co-star John Candy was concerned about his father’s behavior.

On the podcast Sibling Revelry, the Saved! the actor conveyed how he wanted to be a better father to his kids than he had growing up. Based on the endearing story Culkin told to Mythical Kitchen about how he’s treated his son’s stage fright, I’d say he’s doing just that:

Based on the reported abuse Macaulay Culkin endured from his dad at the height of his fame, it’s incredibly emotional that The Good Son actor showed he's better than his dad by always showing love to his kids, even when they have a bad experience. With unconditional love like that, Culkin really was born to be a great parent.

Macaulay Culkin’s kids, Dakota and Carson, certainly are lucky to say they’re the sons of the actor who graces fans every Christmas on their TV screen. While the cautious father wanted to wait until his sons were older to start watching Home Alone, their eventual first viewing of the Christmas classic was a hilarious experience. Apparently, Dakota and Carson called the movie “Kevin” and weren’t fully aware their dad played the kid who set booby traps for sneaky burglars. Hopefully, Culkin’s told them not to try any of this stuff at home.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient may have never been told by his parents as a kid how proud they were of him, but he’s proven to be a better example to his own kids by making sure to always remind them of his pride in them. Loving actions like these help break the toxic cycle and give them the encouragement he once deserved a long time ago.

With the Christmas season in full swing, millions of people are watching their favorite holiday films, and to be sure, a not insignificant number of those people are watching Home Alone. It turns out, the movie is a favorite at the home of star Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song, because their kids love it, despite apparently having no idea that their dad is the star.

Culkin and director Christopher Columbus recently appeared at the Academy Museum to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Home Alone, and the star revealed (via THR) that he’s never told his kids he’s in the movie. It’s not that he’s simply never told them, but he’s actively tried to stave off the inevitability of them finding out. He explained:

Clearly, Macaulay Culkin’s kids are smart enough to recognize an old picture of their Dad as looking like the character in that movie they like, but Dad is going out of his way to prevent them from making the connection. He must make sure they don't see his new commercial.

This is even more difficult for the actor because while he hasn’t told his kids that he plays Kevin in Home Alone, other members of his family haven’t been so secretive with their kids. Apparently, a young cousin recently came close to spilling the beans. He continued…

I’m honestly fascinated by all of this. Do they do the same thing with Brenda Song’s early Disney Channel stuff, or is this exclusively a Home Alone thing? What exactly do the kids think their parents do for a living?

Culkin’s two children were born in 2021 and 2022, making them about three and four years old. Clearly, the window for keeping this secret is shrinking. At some point, those kids are going to learn to read, and they’ll be able to see their dad’s name in the opening credits. At that point, Dad is going to have some explaining to do. If the Home Alone sequel idea that Macauley Culkin has ever gets any traction, he won't be able to hide that.

When CinemaBlend had the chance to visit Walt Disney Animation in Burbank, CA, they clued us in to the fact that the couple and parents to two cubs of their own are behind the voices of sibling lynxes. Here’s what producer Yvett Merino told us about what they were like in the recording booth:

Macaulay Culkin, who’s of course best known for causing antics as a kid in Home Alone, plays the role of Cattrick Lynxley, the eldest son in the powerful Lynxley family. Song, who’s most famous for her Disney Channel days in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, voices Kitty Lynxley, the daughter. As Merino continued in our interview:

While it’s kind of funny that these two are playing siblings, when they are in a romantic relationship, it sounds like they had a lot of fun together playing off each other in the vocal booth – a rare occasion these days for the voices behind Walt Disney Animation characters. Culkin and Song aren’t the only notable Lynxleys, either. Andy Samberg also plays Pawbert Lynxley, who’s the easygoing runt of the family, and David Strathairn is the family’s patriarch, Milton Lynxley. These supporting roles complement Jason Bateman’s return as Nick Wilde, Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps and Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan as Gary De'Snake.

The new movie has Nick and Judy trying to solve a mystery around why there aren’t reptiles in Zootopia when Gary arrives there. The latest Disney animated movie has been receiving high praise from critics overall, as you can see in our Zootopia 2 review. CinemaBlend’s own Dirk Libbey applauds the sequel for its “much stronger” character arcs this time around. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should also stay seated for an exciting post-credits scene hinting at the future of the franchise.

Now that Home Alone is officially celebrating its 35th year, it goes without saying that it remains one of the best Christmas movies ever. And in the age of revivals, reboots and remakes, many have wondered if the holiday pop cultural touchstone may try to tell another story. Well, its star, Macaulay Culkin, wouldn’t turn down the possibility if the script was right. Plus, he came prepared with a pitch that still heavily focuses on familial chaos.

During “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” event, the actor was asked how he felt about returning to Kevin McCallister. Thankfully, the former child actor’s relationship to the iconic movie is very positive, and he most recently revived McCallister for a commercial campaign and almost bought the Home Alone house. Via People, he mused on the idea of making a new movie, sharing that he’s not opposed, but would have some particular stipulations to sign on, saying:

The idea of Macaulay Culkin full-on returning to Kevin is an intriguing one. On one hand, I think many would welcome the McCallisters back with open arms. On the other hand, I’m sure there are others in the fandom who would feel the complete opposite. As the Richie Rich star believes, it’d have to be one hell of a script to rival the first two.

Could you imagine a future Christmas movie streaming schedule with a follow-up to the Chris Columbus classics? I’m dreaming of how they could pull that off. Fortunately, though, the 45-year-old came locked and loaded with a potential pitch after answering the initial question. And while it doesn’t align with the forgetful travel plans, Culkin’s new familial angle could be on the right path, if a third movie starring him were to be greenlit, as he said:

Personally, I think this has some real legs, and a movie could run with it, even though I’m not usually pro revival, reboot etc. The Uncle Buck alum elaborated on the possibility, noting that Kevin would be a single parent who’s a little absent. For that reason, Culkin thought the son would be “the one setting traps for me” and making Kevin a Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) type after getting locked out of the house.

Adding on to classics is hard (I’m still not over what they did with the Hocus Pocus sequel) for so many reasons. But, this viewpoint reminds me of how The Santa Clause continued its story with its sequels, and if it can flesh out this seedling, and go for it, I have great hope. Also, I think the holiday genre, in this case, does help galvanize Culkin’s potential plot. He solidified this thought, explaining that the whole charade would have a deeper meaning:

Again, I’m right there with the American Horror Story alum. It’d have to be an idea that could stand up in heart, humor and fun to even be compared to its predecessors, and his pitch isn’t half bad. We’ll see if Chris Columbus' feelings about HA's legacy and whether or not there should be a new chapter will change. He’s been more hesitant to return to the greater Winnetka area (something else that shouldn’t change too much).

Whether or not we’ll see a full-fledged return of Kevin and the rest of the McCallisters remains uncertain, for now. But, if they do return for a Home Alone sequel, let’s just hope that the idea passes Culkin’s allergy test.

If you want to feel old, I think all I need to tell you is that Kevin McCallister is 45. Yes, the kid from Home Alone is no kid, and while I certainly understood that in a technical sense, a new ad campaign is making me feel it in a way I wasn’t expecting. That's because Kevin being an adult old enough to have kids of his own, also means his mom is getting up there, so he's back to help take care of her.

Macaulay Culkin has “reprised” his role as Kevin in a new ad campaign for Home Instead, a senior care company. The ad (posted by ET) shows Kevin covering the house from Home Alone in bubble wrap in order to keep his aging mother safe, when he meets the granddaughter of an old friend. Check it out:

Certainly, those of us who are about the same age as Macaulay Culkin and who saw Home Alone as kids are probably all feeling more than a little old right now. It is perhaps a fitting product for Culkin to be selling, which is in itself kind of wild.

It’s really nice to see him having some fun with the character, though. Not every actor who gets attached to a single role as hard as he has really appreciates it, which often means they won’t do this sort of thing. Culkin himself did seem to try to distance himself from Home Alone for a long time, but in recent years, it seems he’s come to terms with it.

This isn’t the first time that Macaulay Culkin has used his Home Alone character in an ad campaign. He previously did ads for Uber Eats as Kevin, reenacting various famous scenes from Home Alone as an adult. He also did an ad for Google's virtual assistant. It was all pretty funny. This ad is actually surprisingly heartwarming, though that’s maybe not a surprise given the subject matter.

With the Christmas season on the way, there will likely be a lot of people returning to Home Alone as an annual rewatch. It is one of the best Christmas movies ever, after all. This makes the timing for the ad quite perfect, certainly intentionally so. In fact, the ad might make people think about the movie and want to go watch it. This is good news if you have a Disney+ subscription, as that’s the current place to find the movie if you don’t own a physical copy.

This is being called a “series” of ads, so there may be more that put Culkin in other famous Home Alone locations or have him interacting with other characters. Maybe Catherine O’Hara will appear eventually as Kevin’s mom. That would be a heartwarming Christmas reunion.

Many people, myself included, can never get enough of Home Alone, one of the best Christmas movies of all time. Eight-year-old Kevin McCallister taught audiences that being left at home alone can have its fun moments if you like jumping on beds, “watching rubbish” and engaging in epic prank battles with adults. However, I’m left completely shook at its star, Macaulay Culkin, revealing one long-standing Home Alone scene rumor I didn’t see coming.

The stuntwork in Home Alone certainly didn’t look easy. You have getting hit with flying paint cans, stepping on a nail, a tarantula to the face and more cringeworthy schemes. Even Joe Pesci got “serious burns” on his head during the memorable blow torch scene. However, there’s been a long-standing rumor that one of Macaulay Culkin’s stunt guys in one of the best 1990s flicks was a short 30-year-old. While downing hot wings on First We Feast, the former child star confirmed the rumor to be true, and declare me shocked:

Based on the gruff impersonation Macaulay Culkin was sporting as the stuntman, that doesn’t sound like a 13-year-old! But hey, he was nine. At that age, everyone above a teenager is old.

I’m still in disbelief that the then-child actor had a stunt double that was his height but around the age I’m at now. With his height being so similar to the movie's star, you'd never know. I always assumed that a brave kid took care of the grunt work for Culkin. Never an adult doubling for a kid. So it looks like the rumor was true. Imagine what a strange experience it must have been for the Uncle Buck actor to have seen a grown man don the same Kevin McCallister garb as him.

If you’re curious where you can find Larry in the funny Christmas movie, it would be the hilarious scene when Kevin sneaks into his brother’s room to steal his money. Located on the top shelf, Kevin climbs up only to fall with the furniture. The My Girl actor had a wild story about Larry doing that scene that’s worthy of an award right there:

I still find it hysterical that little Macaulay still kept shouting out that the adult stuntman Larry was "only 13!" I’m still wrapping my head around him actually being 30. But yes, I do feel bad for the poor guy who had to subject himself to more falling and getting pieces of a wooden shelf landing on him. That would seem like a concussion waiting to happen. At least precious Culkin cared enough about his stunt double to ensure his safety.

Just when I thought I had heard about all of the unbelievable BTS facts of Home Alone, it’s revealed that Macaulay Culkin’s stunt double was 30-year-old Larry. Movie magic really does come from unexpected places. Or in this case, talented people willing to fall multiple times for their young actors. Said group is briefly teased in the new trailer. Keep in mind, this whole theory is based on ear shape, though I would also say that it also say that based on the photo above, that's Culkin's hair color as well. Of course, hair color can always change, whereas ear shape is less likely to be altered.

It's important to stress that this is all far from confirmed. However, I'm willing to stick my neck out and say I think this Redditor is onto something.

The Role Of "Caesar" Would Mark An Awesome Opportunity For Macaulay Culkin To Play A Big Bad

Before I even knew Macaulay Culkin might be involved, Caesar's Legion was one of the new things I wanted to see in Fallout Season 2. The inaugural season already showed what a harsh place the Wasteland can be, and Caesar's Legion is about the most brutal faction of the bunch.

Just for reference, the group's introduction in the game Fallout: New Vegas occurs when the player stumbles upon the town of Nipton. It's subsequently discovered that the citizens have either been decapitated, crucified or burned alive by the Legion, depending on the tickets they drew in a lottery.

Caesar's Legion is a major player in the story of Fallout, with its power rivaling that of the Brotherhood of Steel and NCR. I think it's safe to say every faction has some malicious intentions in this post-apocalyptic series, but the Legion is arguably the most brutal and nefarious of the bunch.

With that in mind, how cool would it be to see Macaulay Culkin playing a villain capable of ordering that kind of brutality? While the actor has had a couple of roles that have allowed him to play nefarious types, I think it's safe to say he's never portrayed someone as brutal as Caesar could potentially be. (Again, this is assuming he is portraying the Caesar running the show.)

Beyond seeing Caesar's Legion, I'm stoked about seeing flashbacks of Cooper Howard visiting Mr. House, the mysterious figure in control of New Vegas, both before and after the apocalypse. I'm hopeful that this season is even better than this first, which set a high bar.

It's a classic Chrismas movie debate that has nothing to do with John McClane: is Home Alone or its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York a better movie? Personally, though they are both among the best Christmas movies of all time, I was a huge fan of the sequel as a kid. Who would’ve guessed London Tipton and Kevin McAllister would not only date but be engaged and couple goals? The Suite Life of Zack and Cody actress and the Home Alone star have been together for just under a decade and even host a non-booby-trapped Christmas for their loved ones. Learning that Brenda Song was completely underwhelmed to initially meet Macaulay Culkin is surprising.

The child star couple of our dreams shared their beginnings with Cosmopolitan. They revealed that Seth Green, Song’s co-star on the short-lived series Dads, is how they initially met. In 2014, Green invited the New Girl alum to hang out post-cancellation. Culkin was staying with the Austin Powers alum at the time and was present at the costar's hangout. Although the first meeting didn’t go well between the two prolific child stars, the second time around, again thanks to the Robot Chicken actor, panned out for the now-engaged partners. Green’s 2017 Changeland reunited the two, neither was looking for anything serious, but they hit it off casually on set playing games and sharing more personal and fateful effects. After wrapping the My Girl star and the Secret Obsession alum continued to find ways to neutrally see one another without labels. Eventually, Culkin was invited to the Song’s family Christmas–the first time she brought someone home (they still technically weren’t dating at that point).

After that, the Good Son actor shared he fell in love with her first despite his shielded exterior–due to past relationships and growing up in Hollywood. Song was interviewed by Bustle about her upcoming role in The Last Showgirl, premiering soon on our 2025 movie schedule. Beyond talking about the Gia Coppola-directed indie, the Disney child star opened up about her life now that she is a mom of two, fiancé to the top child star, Macaulay Culkin and almost left show business. During the conversation about family life for The Suite Life of Zack and Cody alum, the actress revealed the typical things the couple do for Christmas, she shared:

I love the simplicity of it for the star-studded couple–nothing out of the ordinary and that they host. I’m sure it’s an incredible and seemingly easy time had by all. It does make sense that they have adopted this wholesome and classic way since they got engaged after having their first baby a couple of years ago. They don’t need to do much to illicit that holiday spirit and magic as a young family, especially when the parents can pull off a gorgeous movie-like couple photoshoot without a blink of an eye (please let Song and Culkin star in a movie together soon).

And let’s not forget that Culkin is maybe the closest public figure, outside of Santa Claus, who will always reign in the holiday cheer for many. A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin, which happened this last Christmas season was proof that his legacy and the movie are as strong as ever. The live evening tour was a success and I hope he continues with the evening in the future, that or, actually buying the infamous Chicago home from Home Alone. Either works for this fan, but in the meantime, the Uncle Buck actor confirming that he’s joining Season 2 of Fallout suffices.

Christmas is over, but I'm not judging anybody who may still be watching Home Alone while nursing a holiday hangover. It's one of the best Christmas movies of all time, so who wouldn't want to give it one last stream with their Disney+ subscription before the next holiday season? The movie has an outstanding legacy, but director Chris Columbus' latest comments are a reminder of how it tanked with critics early on.

Columbus, who served as a producer on this year's holiday hit Nosferatu, spoke to THR about his lengthy career, which obviously includes his much-beloved movie Home Alone. When the filmmaker was asked about actor Macaulay Culkin hosting a screening tour with the film across the U.S., which I was lucky enough to attend, he talked about what the family comedy's legacy meant to him personally, given how it was initially received. In his words:

While critics might've knocked points off Home Alone for no explanation behind how Kevin's father afforded a giant house, or several other oddball details, theater-goers clearly loved it. So much that the initial film's box office success was enough to spur a number of sequels, although only Home Alone 2: Lost In New York is celebrated on the same level, given it's the only follow-up that lured Culkin back.

All things considered, there are a lot of things about Home Alone 2 that don't make sense, especially when it comes to the parents' sense of responsibility. So it's fair to say the original reigns supreme in a lot of hearts and minds and box office receipts.

Chris Columbus takes pride in the longevity of Home Alone's popularity over the years, and had only positive things to say about not only Macaulay Culkin's skills, but also those of his younger brother Kieran, who portrayed Fuller McAllister decades before achieving his Emmy win for Succession. According to Columbus:

Here at CinemaBlend, we also had great things to say about Kieran Culkin in A Real Pain, and it's clear that on the heels of Succession, the actor's Hollywood ascent is only getting more pronounced. Ironically, the younger brother hasn't yet shown his own children Home Alone, but has a valid reason for doing so.

Hopefully Chris Columbus is justified in his excitement for Macaulay Culkin joining Fallout Season 2, which many others are equally pumped about. Given the kookiness of that universe and how it's a world where an extensive knowledge of booby-trapping would come in handy, I have to wonder if his character will get at least one cheeky nod to Home Alone. Let me just see The Ghoul get blindsided on a stairwell by a swinging paint. That's all I'm asking for.

2024 was another huge year for Home Alone, especially with the aforementioned tour by Macaulay Culkin actually celebrating the movie with others in person. Here's hoping that story stays the same in 2025, possibly with other actors joining in on the fun and sharing their fond memories of this holiday classic.

It’s hard to believe Home Alone is nearly 35 years old. Macaulay Culkin is currently 44 years old himself and even has a family of his own. (His three-year-old isn’t quite ready to view the movie.) Even now, though, the actor still has memories to share from the movie, including that time Joe Pesci accidentally really bit his finger on set. When it came to Pesci's reason for that, the Culkin recalled:

While speaking to The New York Times about the classic movie that many have probably seen 100 times over the years, Culkin recounted Pesci’s Harry threatening to bite Kevin’s fingers off during rehearsal while in character before unintentionally actually doing so. As the actor continued:

Clearly, the actor didn’t mean to go that far on set, and immediately was fearful he’d hurt the Home Alone star. It’s a funny tidbit from set that Daniel Stern, who played Pesci’s partner in crime, Marv. The Wonder Years narrator also recalled the situation while talking to Entertainment Tonight. In Stern’s words:

It must have been rather surreal for Macaulay Culkin to be bitten by his Academy Award-winning actor and co-star at the time. It sounds like it ended up being a humbling moment for Pesci, who let down his “menacing” approach out of fear of really frightening the kid in real life. Daniel Stern shared even more remembrances of what went down, saying this:

Speaking of “fear factor,” it’s also been said that Joe Pesci would swear a lot on the set of Home Alone, which director Chris Columbus was not happy about considering there was a 10-year-old present. There are plenty of other BTS details on Home Alone, that involve on-set antics. (For instance, Stern recalled having an actual tarantula on his face during the filming of the yuletide classic.) The Marv actor also remembered how it was “fun” to “hit Joe Pesci with a crowbar” amidst the many versions of hell the characters’ go through during the hilarious holiday movie.

When appearing at A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin live event in Rosemont, Illinois in December 2024 (via the New York Times), the former child star held a screening of the classic Chris Columbus film and shared all kinds of stories with those in attendance. In addition to recalling experiences he had with other members of the Home Alone cast, Culkin opened up about almost buying the iconic home, which sits at 671 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka, Illinois. As he put it:

During the post-screening Q&A session, Culkin, who is set to appear in Fallout Season 2, was met with a round of applause when he talked about purchasing the house where his most famous character thought he made his family disappear. But the actor’s imagined plans for the stately home sound like something fans of the beloved ‘90s movies would love to see realized.

What Macaulay Culkin Would Do With The Home Alone House And Why I Need It To Happen Now

So, what would Macaulay Culkin do with the house if ever bought it? Well, would you be shocked to hear that he’d turn it into some kind of movie funhouse where visitors could recreate famous Home Alone scenes like sledding down the stairs? Because that’s what the Richie Rich star revealed at his traveling event. (Probably no grabbing hot doorknobs, though.)

The Home Alone house serving as a museum of sorts for the famous movie is something film enthusiasts and Midwesterners would love to visit, especially if it were made to look like it did all those years ago. The den with that cozy chair, the kitchen with the little TV and tiled countertops, and the location of all those diabolical booby traps would be so much fun to revisit.

But don’t get too attached to the idea of taking a zipline from the third floor to a treehouse out back, yelling at the furnace to shut up, or taking shots at sports figures sitting on the laundry chute, even though a $5.25 million sale of the home isn’t yet finalized, per Zillow.

During the same event, Culkin explained that the reason why he never went through with those tentative plans was because he’s “got kids” and was “busy.” It all comes back to the kids.

And as much as we would all love to believe that Culkin is the mystery buyer behind the latest in a series of purchases of the Home Alone house, crazier things have happened over the holidays in the past.

We may never get to enter the house for ourselves, or at least see what Macaulay Culkin would do with the place, we can at least go back to the house by watching Home Alone for like the 100th time with a Disney+ subscription.

I think there's a genuine argument to be made that Home Alone tops the list of the best Christmas movies. Granted, I may be biased, because it's on heavy rotation in my home right now, thanks to my daughter and a Disney+ subscription. However, that's also because we had the opportunity to attend a very special event. Macaulay Culkin is touring and talking about the beloved movie with fans and, after you hear my thoughts, you might realize this is something you don't want to miss.

Watching Home Alone With A Crowd Of People Is Incredible

I was too young to see Home Alone in theaters, so part of my interest in attending the event was just seeing it on a big screen. It turns out that screening this movie with a bunch of millennials and their children is absolutely incredible, and I really got a sense of how much people love this movie as much as I do. I even saw a guy wearing a replica of the polka jacket John Candy wore for his iconic role, if that paints a picture of how jazzed everyone was to be there. I laughed, and even cried during the church scene a bit, which was way more emotion than I've conveyed towards this film over the years.

Hearing Macaulay Culkin's New Perspective On The Movie Was A Blast

Too often, I'm used to hearing Hollywood actors talk about how their most beloved roles are hard to enjoy because they didn't experience it in the same way everyone else did. Macaulay Culkin opened up his Q&A following the film, admitting that he used to be unable to watch it. But, as a father to two young sons, he's been able to enjoy the movie through their eyes.

All this to say, I figured there was nothing Macaulay Culkin was going to say onstage that I hadn't heard elsewhere previously. It only took a few minutes for me to learn that the actor had a scar from Pesci biting him, which was new info to me. Home Alone delivers plenty of laughs and heartwarming holiday vibes, but it’s also packed with moments that, through the eyes of a young child, could come across as unsettling. Kids like Wilder are still figuring out the boundary between fiction and reality. So, a tarantula on someone’s face or a thief threatening bodily harm might feel less like something out of one of the best comedy films of the ‘90s and more like nightmare material.

That said, the Father of the Bride actor isn’t ruling out showing his kids the family affair turned Christmas staple in the near future. He teased:

This cautious approach makes perfect sense for a parent trying to introduce the film at just the right time, ensuring it’s a joyful experience rather than a potentially overwhelming one. Plus, waiting until the kids are old enough to resist the urge to set up their own booby traps around the house seems like a smart move. Nobody wants the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World performer stepping on a nail or getting a paint can to the face, because his little ones couldn’t yet distinguish between movie hijinks and real life.

The beauty of holiday movie traditions lies in creating those perfect moments. You want your kids to giggle along with Kevin McCallister’s clever antics and cheer as he outsmarts the bumbling Wet Bandits—not end up hiding under a blanket during Harry and Marv’s more sinister threats.

One of my favorite types of Hollywood anecdotes is the “what-if casting” story. And recently, comedian John Mulaney shared a glimpse of a what-if for one of the best Christmas movies of all time. According to the Big Mouth star, he was offered the chance to audition for Home Alone as a kid, which has me looking at the film's lead character in a new light. What if the Baby J performer had taken on the role of precocious 8-year-old Kevin McCallister? This certainly would have changed one of the best movies of the 1990s.

The comedian recently recounted in a GQ interview for the outlet's Actually Me series that back in 1989, at seven-year-old, he was part of a local children’s improv group called The Rugrats, and he caught the eye of someone involved in casting Home Alone. This led to an invitation for him and his parents to consider auditioning. As the stand-up comic hilariously remembered:

It is indeed intriguing to think about what the Mulaney star's version of Kevin would've been like. Even though the former Saturday Night Live writer missed his chance at Hollywood glory as a kid, he’s the first to admit the role of Kevin McCallister went to the right person. In classic fashion, the Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers star gave credit where credit is due with a mix of genuine admiration and his signature comedic flair:

While imagining whether or not an eight-year-old Mulaney would have brought the dry humor and razor-sharp delivery he’s known for, it’s hard to argue with his own assessment: Macaulay Culkin had so much personality at such a young age. That spark made him perfect for the part, and his performance has stood the test of time as one of the most memorable of the decade–which is probably why the child star is still acting today.

The next time you queue up Home Alone (which is available with a Disney+ subscription) for your annual Christmas watch, take a moment to appreciate the “what-ifs” and “what-could-have-beens” that helped shape this classic. Fallout took the 2024 TV schedule by storm this year, and after many fans watched it with thier Amazon Prime subscriptions, the anticipation for Fallout Season 2 quickly began. Now, we have an update about what's to come as it was announced that Macaulay Culkin is joining the cast. The actor also quickly responded to the news, however, it's the fan reactions to this exciting casting that I can't get over.

While Fallout Season 2 may be years away, preparations have already begun. Deadline reported that the Home Alone child actor will be recurring in the upcoming season as a “crazy genius-type character.” Culkin hasn’t taken too many roles in recent years, so this is definitely big news. So, in response, he took to Instagram to share the announcement, and while it was only a three-word message, it’s as exciting as ever:

Fallout marks Culkin’s first big role since starring in the first half of American Horror Story: Double Feature in 2021, and fans are looking forward to it. Plenty took to the comments to share their reactions and plenty of Home Alone gifs too. People are certainly ready for a long-awaited Macaulay Culkin Renaissance, and I am here for it.

Even though we have no idea what character he will play and how many episodes he will be appearing in, fans are still excited to see this actor back on screen, and I am, too. Most of Culkin’s best movies were made when he was a kid, and to see that he is still so loved after all these years is sweet.

Perhaps this could be the start of him returning to acting full-time. While we don't know if that will happen, it's simply so exciting to know that he's coming back to the art in a project that is considered one of Prime Video's best shows.

Culkin will presumably be joining Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias and more in the Season 2 cast. It’s going to be a fun dynamic to see too, depending on who the former child star plays. And who knows, maybe it could turn into a regular role?

Not too many details have been revealed, but Fallout’s EP Jonathan Nolan compared working on Season 2 to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, which is already making me want the new season. The wait will be worth it, though, especially since Macaulay Culkin will be appearing in a recurring role. Hopefully, more information on his character will be revealed soon, but with fans already excited, it's clear that they're ready to tune in to see this beloved actor in this beloved universe.

A great performance from a precocious young actor can steal scenes and even entire movies and TV shows. Like the kids on this list, who have so much personality at such a young age it's crazy. From TV stars like Gary Coleman on Diff'rent Strokes to supporting roles in movies that end up being the most-talked-about bits of the films, like Jonathan Lipnicki in Jerry Maguire, these kids are just oozing charm and talent. 

Shirley Temple

You can't have a list like this without the original Hollywood kid star, the great Shirley Temple. Though Temple acted in films into her late teens before retiring in 1950, she is really best remembered for her roles as a clever witty kid in movies like 1935's Curly Top and 1936's Stowaway. After Temple retired, she went on to have a successful career as a spokesperson and even a foreign diplomat. 

Macaulay Culkin

There are very few kids that could ever carry a movie, much less a franchise, like Macaulay Culkin did with the Home Alone movies. The first movie is one of the most successful movies of all time, and while the entire cast of Home Alone is amazing, the movie would not be the same with anyone else as Kevin McCallister. 

Quvenzhané Wallis

Quvenzhané Wallis' performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild is, in all senses, a revelation. Her performance is so powerful and nuanced on a level that even many adult actors can't match. It was so good, that Wallis became the youngest actress ever nominated for an Academy Award.

Peter Billingsley

For a generation of kids, A Christmas Story is THE definite Christmas movie. It was so popular that for a time, it would run a loop on cable TV around the holiday. Of course, while the whole cast is memorable, Peter Billingsley's role as Ralphie is the one people talk about the most. 

Soleil Moon Frye

The 1980s were awash with precocious kids leading shows and few were on a higher level than Punky Brewster. The lead character, played by Soleil Moon Frye, found herself in all kinds of spots, usually funny, though sometimes serious and Frye could handle it all. 

Emmanuel Lewis

For six seasons, Emmanuel Lewis brought joy to American homes as the orphaned Webster in the show with the same name. Like others in the decade, Lewis carried a network show with his comedic timing and cuteness. The diminutive Lewis, who was diagnosed with pituitary dwarfism, used his condition to his advantage, not to mention his great acting, to get people laughing everywhere. 

The Olsen Twins

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are examples of kids who left acting behind, but their joint performance as Michelle Tanner in Full House will always be beloved by fans of the show. The twins both had enough personality to fill a soundstage when they played the role, starting when they were just babies. Incredible. 

Haley Joel Osment

Haley Joel Osment's big break came as the intense kid who could see dead people in The Sixth Sense. Like a few others on this list, he's a child star who is still acting today and it's not hard to see why given the talent he displayed at just 11 years old. 

Millie Bobby Brown

By the time Millie Bobby Brown was the ripe old age of 12, when she first starred in Stranger Things on Netflix, the actress was a seasoned vet. She had already had regular roles on a couple of TV shows both in the US and her native UK and had made a number of guest appearances on shows like NCIS and Grey's Anatomy. Of course, it would as a Eleven in Stranger Things that really proved how great she is. 

Christian Bale

Christian Bale is one of the best actors of his generation, something he started to prove very early in his life when he took on the starring role of a war orphan in  Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. Bale was only 13 at the time and his performance is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It's hard to fathom the ability to do that as barely a teenager. 

Gary Coleman

There isn't a more famous catchphrase from 1980s TV than "Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis?" Of course, those words were part of seemingly every single episode of Diff'rent Strokes. Gary Coleman's role as Arnold, the orphaned kid taken in, with his brother, by Mr Drummond was one of the most popular characters of the decade.  

Anna Chlumsky

While Macaulay Culkin was the big "star" of My Girl when it was released, his counterpart, played by Anna Chlumsky is every bit as charming as wonderful as Caulkin. Chlumsky's talents were on full display as a kid, talents that would eventually earn her many Emmy nominations for her work as an adult in Veep.

Jonathan Lipnicki

Let's be honest, is there a cuter kid than Jonathan Lipnicki in Jerry Maguire? His charm and unintentional wit is totally off the charts in the rom-com. He even knows how much a human head weighs (8 pounds) and that bees and dogs smell fear. No too shabby. 

Tatum O'Neal

When Tatum O'Neal won the Oscar for starring alongside her father, Ryan O'Neal, in  Paper Moon in 1974 she became the youngest person to ever win the award at just age 10. That pretty much says it all. While other kids have been nominated, she was the first kid to win. She continued to show her talents and personality in movies like The Bad News Bears and Nickelodeon before personal problems derailed her promising career. 

Henry Thomas

Acor Henry Thomas has had a long career in TV and on film, but the movies we all best remember are when he was a child actor full of skill and personality in movies like E.T. and the underrated Cloak & Dagger. E.T. was one of the most successful movies of all time and is ranked as one of Steven Spielberg's best movies, thanks in large part to Thomas' performance. 

Jaleel White

It's true that Steve Urkel on Family Matters is one of the more polarizing characters in TV history, but Jaleel White's performance as the nerdy neighbor shouldn't be controversial. He was perfect in the role and people are still making references to it decades later, which tells you all you need to know. 

Hailee Steinfeld

In literature, there are few kids with more personality than Mattie Ross in Charles Portis' classic novel True Grit. It takes a young actor with an equally big personality to play her on-screen and in the Coen Brother's 2010 adaption, Hailee Steinfeld just crushes the role. 

Drew Barrymore

When you come from Hollywood royalty, like the Barrymore family, you'd better have some acting chops. Drew Barrymore proved just how great she was before she was even seven years old when she starred in her breakout role as Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. She continued acting as a kid in movies like Firestarter and Irreconcilable Differences, before moving on to adult roles and eventually, her own talk show. 

Keshia Knight Pulliam

The Cosby Show was among the most popular shows of the 1980s and while Bill Cosby was undoubtedly the star of the show, Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played the youngest Huxtable child, Rudy, stole a TON of scenes in every season. Who could ever forget the lip-syncing scenes with the whole family, and not immediately recall her legendary moments in those scenes? 

Hayley Mills

How about not one, but two roles that prove just how much personality one child actor can show off? For Hayley Mills, The Parent Trap wasn't her first movie, but it is the one most remembered from her child-acting days. She plays both twins in the movie and does it so well, that you'd swear it would have to be two people, even though they look alike. 

Abigail Breslin

Little Miss Sunshine was the surprise hit of 2006 and that was in no small part (pun intended) to Abigail Breslin's brilliant performance as Olive, the girl at the heart of the dysfunctional family's road trip. you know someone is a star when they stand out from a cast that includes Alan Arkin, Paul Dano, Steve Carell, and Toni Collette.

Anna Paquin

These days Anna Paquin is probably best known for her work in the X-Men series, but she really burst onto the scene as an 11-year-old in The Piano, for which she became one of the youngest actors to ever win an Academy Award. More than three decades later she's still lighting up the screen. 

Alfonso Ribeiro

In the 1980s television was filled with precocious kids tearing it up on shows like Silver Spoons. Ricky Schroeder may have been the star as young Ricky, a role that launched his career, but his best friend, Alfonso, played by Alfonso Ribeiro, stole a lot of the scenes he was in. After Silver Spoons, Ribeiro danced into our hearts as Carlton on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. 

Natalie Portman

It is undeniable that Natalie Portman is one of the finest actors of her generation and her career all started when she was just 12 in Leon: The Professional. It's a complicated role, one that even many adult actors would struggle with, but Portman showed right away just what kind of acting chops she had in the movie. It's a challenging role for audiences, thanks to her fantastic performance. 

Alyssa Milano

Alyssa Milano's career has gone through some peaks and valleys, like many actors. One of the highest peaks came when she was just a kid, starring as Samantha in Who's The Boss?, a classic '80s sitcom. Tony Danza played her father and the chemistry between them was legendary. Maybe one day we'll get that reboot we've been waiting for. 

Jerry Mathers

In the whole history of American television, one of the most enduring characters has to be from its golden age in the 1950s, Beaver Cleaver. Played by Jerry Mathers, The Beav was an instant hit with kids and parents alike and the show ran for decades in reruns all over the country. Mathers even returned to play The Beaver during the Baby Boomer nostalgia fad of the 1980s. 

Keisha Castle-Hughes

When Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated for an Oscar in her breakout role in The Whale Rider, she was the youngest person to ever receive that honor. Her performance is fully deserving of the praise she received and she's continued to receive well-earned praise for her roles in Game of Thrones as Obara Sand, and as Hana Gibson in FBI.

Jodie Foster

Playing a role like Jodie Foster played in Taxi Driver takes a truly special actor. Foster, who was just 14 when she played the complicated role, has gone on to have an incredible and empowering career in Hollywood, but it's hard to imagine her having a tougher assignment than that part, with such adult complications, in Taxi Driver. 

Dafne Keen

There is something so magical about kids playing roles that really wrestle with adult themes and one of the best recent examples is Dafne Keen in Logan. It's a complicated role, dealing with complicated subjects and Keen is sublime throughout the movie. 

Heather O'Rourke

Heather O'Rouke's all too tragic life was taken way too soon. The Poltergeist star died when she was just 12 years old, but in those 12 years, she left a heck of an impression on the world. Her performance in Poltergeist completely steals the legendary horror film. 

Natalie Wood

While Natalie Wood is too often remembered for all the wrong reasons, in her short life (she died when she was just 43), she packed a ton of memorable performances in that life. One of the most enduring has to be her role in Miracle on 34th Street, which came when she was just 9 years old. 

There are popular franchises, and then there's Harry Potter. What began with J.K. Rowling's books grew into a wildly popular film series (which is streaming with a Max subscription), as well as theme parks, stage plays, and the upcoming Harry Potter TV show. The first few films were helmed by Chris Columbus, who recently explained the interesting and thoughtful way Home Alone factored into Daniel Radcliffe and company getting cast in the Wizarding World.

The Harry Potter movies made household names out of its starring cast, especially the trio of leads: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. The casting process to find these young actors was intense, and Columbus recently spoke to Variety about how his work on Home Alone influenced how he found the Potter cast. As he put it:

Points were made. Mega fame for a young person can be challenging, especially if they end up being the primary moneymaker for their family. And he saw this happen firsthand with Culkin and the Home Alone movies (which are streaming with a Disney+ subscription).

After seeing the way Culkin struggled with his family as his career boomed, Chris Columbus wanted to take very special care with finding the right kids (and parents) to portray Hogwarts students in the Harry Potter films. He explained this in the same interview, offering:

It sounds like the parents of the Harry Potter trio past that test for Chris Columbus, who would depart the Wizarding World after the first two movies. Despite moving on, he seems to still have strong feelings about the franchise, recently participating in the Return to Hogwarts reunion special. And his care about casting seems to have worked out, as Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint continue to have thriving careers, and seemingly without any strife from within their family units.

Macaulay Culkin's story is just one of many cautionary tales related to child actors, and it's one that Chris Columbus seemingly still feels partially responsible for. Luckily he was able to set up the Harry Potter cast for success. While we wait for news about the Hogwarts TV series, check the 2025 movie release dates.

Every now and again there’s a topic on the Internet that will go viral more than once. This time, the winner winner chicken dinner is the fact Home Alone mom Catherine O’Hara was only 36 when she appeared as Kevin McCallister’s mom in what would become one of the best movies of the 1990s. This is not the first time this movie factoid has gone viral, but it is the first time it is hitting me like a ton of bricks.

Here’s the gist: many years around the Christmas holiday a tweet will mention that O’Hara was 36 at the time Home Alone was filming. It’s been 34 years since the movie came out and O’Hara is now 70, but the point stands; she was a pretty young mom to have a daughter who was 15, a kid in middle school, and five kids in total, but times were different then. (Though there are some similar families today.)

It wasn't so long ago O’Hara and Macaulay Culkin went viral when they reunited during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. The moment went viral, and of course people started talking about the Home Alone mom again. Then, Buzzfeed recently put together a list comparing celebrities at age 36 based on the viral moment between the famous movie mother and her famous movie son (who is now 43–aka seven years older than O’Hara was when the flick filmed). But I’m having my own personal meltdown in regards to the topic.

This time, when reading this hot fact I am actually 36 years old. I have done some things in my life that are very grown-up, like paying off student loan debt and landing a mortgage. But I’m not anywhere near the grown-up with multiple children to watch or assets worthy of stealing in a Chicago suburb Mrs. McCallister is. I certainly don’t spend Christmas in Paris. And while jokes can be made about how she literally was such a negligent parent she left her kid at home whilst hiring a car service to travel to her vacation, otherwise, I am so miles apart from this reality this movie realization has been quite the sobering thought for me.

I’m not alone. I’ve, in fact, taken solace in myriad videos on this exact topic. This one really gets to the germ of how I'm feeling at this exact moment.

When Culkin and O’Hara reunited, she wrote about her negligence as a movie mother, telling the actor:

While she may have not have been mom of the year, Catherine O’Hara is certainly an icon outside of her work in Home Alone and has cemented herself as a comedy legend in roles as varied as leading the Schitt’s Creek cast and starring in many Christopher Guest projects. But even with her large oeuvre, it’s gonna be this hot fact I will think of forever, kind of similar to how I only remember that one kid in high school who never swapped out their gym socks because they never swapped out their gym socks. It's the one thing that sticks with me years later. My apologies to O'Hara, who has said many, many funny things in her life.

There was a time when music videos were as important as the radio in promoting the hottest artists and songs of the day. Back in the '80s and '90s, MTV was one of the most powerful cultural forces in the country, and that was reflected in how many stars you can spot in videos from the day. 

Sometimes, they were already huge stars, like Robin Williams and Chevy Chase, other times, they were actors looking to get their break and now, years later, we can marvel at their humble beginnings. This is a list of famous people in videos from the zenith of MTV highlights both.

Alicia Silverstone - "Cryin'"

Alicia Silverstone first got famous for starring in videos, specifically Aerosmith videos. The Clueless star appeared in three videos for the Boston rockers, the first for the song "Cryin'", then later showing up in the videos for "Amazing," alongside Dazed & Confused cast member Jason London. Silverstone's final appearance, and maybe the most famous video, was for the song "Crazy," alongside Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv Tyler. 

Courteney Cox - "Dancing In The Dark"

One of the most famous examples of a star getting her first break in a music video is, of course, Friends star Courteney Cox in the video for Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark." The video, which came out in 1984, was directed by Brian De Palma and, according to Cox, she was one of several women Springsteen could have picked out of the audience, and it was random that he chose her. What kismit! 

Cindy Crawford - "Freedom '90"

Director David Fincher, who has had quite an amazing career in film, started in music videos. One of those videos, George Michaels' "Freedom '90," was challenging because Michaels told Fincher he wasn't going to appear in the video. Fincher decided to cast a bevy of famous supermodels to lip-sync the song, including Cindy Crawford in a bathtub. 

Eva Mendes - "Miami"

In 1998, a young actress from Miami was cast in a video for the Will Smith song, "Miami." Eva Mendes had starred in one direct-to-video movie at that point and was that actress. It would be another three years before her breakout role in Training Day. It's a brief moment in the video, as she drove her convertible next to Smith's on the causeway to Miami Beach.

In 1993, Janet Jackson was on top of the world. Her fifth album, janet. was another huge hit, selling millions of copies, partly on the strength of the single, "That's the Way Love Goes." Little did anyone know at the time that one of the extras in the video would go on to a career that eclipsed even Jackson's, a then-unknown Jennifer Lopez. 

Matt LeBlanc - "Miracle"

Bon Jovi's "Miracle" is, let's be frank, not the New Jersey legends' best work. One thing they did get right was the casting for the video. Matt LeBlanc was a young actor and model just starting out on a career, so while his job is really only to look good in this video, he certainly does. It would be a few more years before America was introduced to his comedic chops too. 

Hugh Laurie - "Walking On Broken Glass"

By the time Hugh Laurie appeared in the video for Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass" in 1992, he was already very famous in the UK. It would be a few more years until the legendary TV show House would debut in the US, making Laurie a household name on both sides of the pond. John Malkovich also stars in the video, reminding fans of his role in Dangerous Liaisons. 

Angelina Jolie - "Wondering"

Angelina Jolie was a model in Hollywood from her teen years on, so it's no wonder she would have a few videos of her resume, including The Rolling Stones' video for "Has Anybody Seen My Baby," but it is surprising to see her in a video for the Athens, GA-based jam band Widespread Panic's song "Wondering" from 1993. Jolie also appears on the cover of the band's album Everyday, which includes "Wondering."

Zooey Deschanel - "She's Got Issues"

Zooey Deschanel is as successful in music, with her duo She & Him as she is on the big screen, so of course she has an early credit in a music video. Deschanel appears with fiery red hair in the video for "She's Got Issues" by The Offspring. 

Naomi Campbell - "Is This Love"

Bob Marley died over four decades ago, but his legacy is as big as ever, with the release of the biopic One Love in 2024. Back in the day, the reggae superstar filmed a video in London for his song "Is This Love" featuring a couple of local kids, including a 7-year-old Naomi Campbell!  

Macaulay Culkin - "Black Or White"

Michael Jackson redefined what a music video could be with "Thriller" and after that, he often released short films that were much more than just a song, and often they had big stars in them. For "Black or White" in 1991, MJ brought in Macaulay Culkin and George Wendt to play father and son, for example. 

Christina Hendricks - "One Hit Wonder"

Long before Christina Hendricks hit the big time with her role in Mad Men, she was a model and struggling actor in the '90s. One of her earliest roles, way back in 1998, was in the video for "One Hit Wonder" by Everclear. Luckily for all of us, that wasn't her only hit. 

Matthew McConaughey - "Walkaway Joe"

Alright, alright, alright, we'll concede that Dazed and Confused is what made Matthew McConaughey famous, but before that, he appeared in Trisha Yearwood's video for her hit "Walkaway Joe," playing the titular character of the song. 

Wesley Snipes - "Bad"

For the second single, "Bad" from his album of the same name, Micheal Jackson teamed up with Martin Scorsese to make an 18-minute short film for the video. In the video, Jackson famously has a dance-off with his rivals in a New York subway station. One of the baddies is none other than Wesley Snipes, who only had a few credits under his belt previously. 

Patrick Swayze - "Rosanna"

Toto's song "Rosanna" is famously about Rosanna Arquette. Less well-known is that if you watch the video closely, you'll notice a familiar face as one of the West Side Story-like dancers. Patrick Swayze, one year before his big break in The Outsiders is one of the dancers. In an even cooler bit of trivia, another one of the uncredited dancers in the video is Cynthia Rhodes, who would co-star as Swayze's first dance partner, Penny, in Dirty Dancing. 

Elijah Wood - "Forever Your Girl"

Elijah Wood has been working in Hollywood forever. He started as a child actor in films like Back to the Future II and The Good Sun, but before those even, he had a part in Paula Abdul's video for "Forever Your Girl" in 1989. 

Chevy Chase - "You Can Call Me Al"

Chevy Chase was one of the biggest stars on the planet in 1986 when he starred in the video for "You Can Call Me Al" with his buddy Paul Simon. It is, no lie, one of Chase's best performances, and it's impossible not to crack up at his facial expressions and physical comedy in the video. 

Johnny Depp - "Into The Great Wide Open"

Johnny Depp has always wanted to be a rock star, so it was a great move by Tom Petty to get him to play the part of one in the video for "Into The Great Wide Open" in 1991. The video also stars the legendary Faye Dunaway and Gabrielle Anwar. 

Jennifer Connelly - "I Drove All Night"

The late, great Roy Orbison found almost as much fame after he died as he found in life. Two albums of all-new songs were released posthumously and one song, "I Drove All Night," released in 1992, featured Jennifer Connelly alongside Jason Priestly, in the video, along with Orbison in grainy images of an old TV appearance. 

Kirsten Dunst - "I Knew I Loved You"

Does anybody remember the band Savage Garden? The Aussie duo had a string of huge hits in the late '90s, including the song "I Knew I Loved You" which features Kirsten Dunst as a woman on a subway with whom the lead singer, Darren Hayes, is in love. 

Robin Williams - "Don't Worry, Be Happy"

Bobby McFerrin's 1988 song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" has to be one of the most surprising #1 hits of all time. The song was huge when it came out, and went on to win three Grammys. Someone must have had an inkling though, because superstar Robin Williams co-stars in the video with McFerrin. 

Kim Basinger - "Last Dance With Mary Jane"

Tom Petty made some legendary videos during his career, but the strangest has to be the one for "Last Dance With Mary Jane" which features Kim Basinger playing a corpse, dressed up as a bride. Great song, but a very weird video.

Keanu Reeves - "Rush, Rush"

1991 was a big year for Keanu Reeves. Not only did he star in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and Point Break, but he also appeared as a James Dean-like character in the video for "Rush, Rush" by Paula Abdul. 

Eddie Murphy - "Do You Remember The Time"

In case you've forgotten just how huge Michael Jackson was in the early '90s, remember there was a time he could premiere a video on MTV, BET, and Fox all at the same time. The video starred Jackson, of course, along with Eddie Murphy and Iman as ancient Egyptian royalty. Magic Johnson also appeared. 

Katie Holmes - "Tongue Tied"

Katie Holmes' career was just starting to take off in 1999 with her starring turn on Dawson's Creek. She also found some time to appear in the video for the song "Tongue Tied" by pop punk band Eve 6. It's not the last time Holmes has appeared in a video, either. A year later, in 2000, she starred with Micheal Douglas and others in a Bob Dylan video. 

Winona Ryder - "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant with My Two-Headed Love Child"

By far the award for the strangest appearance on this list goes to Winona Ryder in the video for Mojo Nixon's song "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant with My Two-Headed Love Child." Leave it to the late Nixon for coming up with the most ridiculous premise for a song, then landing a star like Ryder to star in the video in 1989, the same year she appeared in Heathers. 

RuPaul - "Love Shack"

If one were to guess which 1980s video to expect a RuPaul appearance, the smart money would be a B-52's video. That's exactly what happened in 1989 when RuPaul popped up very briefly in the video for "Love Shack" as a dancer and partygoer. He wasn't close to famous yet, but he was good friends with the band and he fits right into the campiness of the video. 

Benicio del Toro - "La Isla Bonita"

Benicio del Toro made his big screen debut in 1988 in Pee Wee's Big Top, but a year earlier, he was one of the extras in the video for Madonna's "La Isla Bonita." He is way in the background and can only be clearly seen in one shot, but when you watch the video, it's unmistakenly del Toro. 

Liv Tyler - "Crazy"

According to Liv Tyler, she didn't meet her biological father, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, until she was eight, and didn't know he was her father for another few years. Still, by the time she starred in the video for "Crazy," they had developed a healthy relationship, and the video, in which she co-stars with Alicia Silverstone, launched her career.

Captain Lou Albano - "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"

Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest breakout stars of early MTV and for good reason. The low-budget video for her debut single, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" featured a quirky cast that included her mother (playing her mother), her lawyer, and wrestling star "Captain" Lou Albano as her father. It's a video as fun as the song and it was played on repeat in those early MTV days. 

John Goodman - "Wild Wild Life"

The song "Wild Wild Life" by The Talking Heads was part of their soundtrack for the David Byrne-directed film True Stories. For the video, he recruited some of the people who appear in the film, including John Goodman, who lip-syncs along with the song in a karaoke bar. 

LeVar Burton - "Word Up"

LeVar Burton first found fame as Kunta Kinte in Roots, one of the most memorable performances by any actor, ever. About a decade later, between Roots and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Burton popped up in the video for "Word Up" by Cameo, playing a police officer trying to arrest the band. 

One video we left off this list because it's just too big a list on its own is the video for Ghostbusters which, in addition to the stars of the film also includes Chevy Chase, Danny Devito, Peter Falk, Al Franken, John Candy, and more. It's all too much to add to his list of some of the coolest appearances of stars in music videos! 

The Culkin brothers and the Skarsgård brothers are two very dominant acting families in 2024. For the Culkins, Macaulay is one of the most famous child actors of all time, and Kieran just had an incredible run playing Roman Roy on Succession, which won him several awards. For the Skarsgårds, Alexander Skarsgård's best projects include True Blood and Big Little Lies, as well as arthouse favorites like Infinity Pool and The Northman. In addition, Bill is best known for his star-making performance as Pennywise in the IT movies. With both families having such cultural relevance, some people on the internet pondered about who would win in a fight between the families, and Kieran Culkin recently gave his two cents on the matter.

In speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the Emmy’s red carpet, Culkin became aware of this bizarre internet debate, and he was very quick to give his opinion. A fight with the Skarsgårds did not seem like something the Succession cast member ever would want to participate in, and the mere size of them would ensure that the Culkins would lose. He said:

The interviewer brought up that some people on the internet thought the Culkins' speed and small stature would actually be an advantage in a fight, and they may be able to overpower the Skarsgårds with their nibble quickness. To which the 2024 Emmy winner doubled down and insisted that “size matters,” and the Culkins would definitely lose if they had to take on the famously tall Swedish acting family. 

The only way he thought they might have a shot was if the Skarsgårds were maimed and tied up before the fight. You can see his full answer in the clip from the red carpet interview below: 

As much as I want to believe that the agile Culkins could use their brains to their advantage to win against the Skarsgårds in a brawl, I have to side with Kieran Culkin on this one. 

Not only are the Skarsgård brothers very very tall, they are also in insane shape. Alexander Skarsgård’s physique in The Northman is mind-boggling, and he probably would be able to take on all six Culkin brothers by himself. And with the other five Skarsgårds in the mix, it doesn’t seem like a fair fight. However, I still loved hearing the arguments to the contrary. 

Even though this is a pretty silly debate, it’s exactly the kind of tomfoolery that Kieran Culkin probably loved hearing about. The actor has a wonderful sense of humor, he and loves an opportunity to joke around. He even couldn’t help but add in a silly jab at Pedro Pascal when he accepted his Golden Globe Award last month. This is the exact kind of witty energy he brought to Succession and his new indie film with Jesse Eisenberg, A Real Pain. 

This quality alone is probably why some thought he and his brothers could overpower the Skarsgårds, but unfortunately when it comes to a physical fight, as Kieran put it, “size matters.”

Kieran Culkin is currently riding one of his biggest career highs to date, having spent the first month of 2024 winning a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice award, and an Emmy for his work as Roman Roy in the final season of HBO’s Succession. Meanwhile, his brother Macaulay Culkin recently celebrated getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (where he reunited with Home Alone mom Catherine O’Hara). The siblings seemingly haven’t co-starred together since the aforementioned holiday comedy’s Lost in New York sequel, but that’s all changing with a new streaming show.

That’s right, a major Culkin family reunion will be happening in a place no one could have expected: The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, which is the name of Prime Video’s new adult animated series set to debut in February for everyone with Amazon Prime subscriptions. The series, which features Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne as co-stars and executive producers, isn’t just pairing up the TWO Culkin siblings, but is bringing in their other three brothers as well. 

Amazon Studios announced that Macaulay Culkin, Rory Culkin, Christian Culkin and Shane Culkin will all be joining a larger group of A+ guest stars lending their respective vocal chops to The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy. Wildly enough, this marks the only apparent project that will feature the most noteworthy actor trio in the same project, and the first shared TV show amongst the family.

While Kieran notably co-starred as Fuller McCallister in the first two Home Alone movies opposite his older brother, Rory popped up as younger versions of both of his sibs across three movies — The Good Son, Richie Rich, and Igby Goes Down — but without properly co-starring with them. And on the flip side of that coin, neither Christian nor Shane are screen actors by trade, though the former did co-star with Kieran in the 1994 film My Summer Story as his lone credit. 

It’s not exactly clear yet who the four newest cast additions will be playing in the streaming comedy, but we do know that Kieran Culkin is taking on the role of Dr. Plowp, who will aid Rudolph and Lyonne’s BFF surgeons Dr. Sleech and Dr. Klak as they balance an assortment of alien medical maladies while also dealing with an overarching plot involving a highly dangerous and existence-threatening case. 

Beyond those mentioned above, the new series is also set to star Nope’s Keke Palmer, Joy Ride’s Stephanie Hsu and Grammy-winning musician Sam Smith. They’ll all be joined by even more Season 1 guest stars, including black-ish vet Tracee Ellis Ross, SNL stars Bowen Yang and ANdrew Dismukes, Broad City’s Abby Jacobson, Insecure’s Jay Ellis, Night Court’s Gary Anthony Williams, Minx’s Lennon Parham, and the always stellar filmmaker John Waters.

It should be fun and unique to hear the Culkin brothers together in one series, even if it won’t be in live-action. Maybe we’ll get to see them share an award stage together at some point in the future, with or without Kieran asking his wife to have more kids, which he did in the midst of accepting his Emmy (possibly with regrets afterward). Fans can catch him being slightly difficult opposite Jesse Eisenberg in the latter’s road trip dramedy A Real Pain.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York is among the best Christmas movies out there, and that was evident not long after it was released in theaters. I recently learned the holiday movie, now available to watch with a Disney+ subscription, was the cause of a big toy craze a year after its release in 1993. While the toy becoming such a hit, like the movie, wasn't too surprising, the story behind the Talkboy and how it became a hot holiday item is.

Anyone who watched Home Alone 2 as a child no doubt felt a bit jealous of Kevin McCallister's Talkboy and how he could masterfully utilize it to trick adults into giving him a hotel room and all sorts of other things. What's most interesting is how it came together and ultimately became one of the hottest toys on the market in Christmas 1993.

The Tiger Talkboy Wasn't Real Until After Home Alone 2: Lost In New York

I'd always assumed the Talkboy was a toy that existed in some form before Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, but that's not the case. Vanity Fair reported that producer-screenwriter John Hughes dreamt up the device in the script for the movie. He needed a way for Kevin to reliably trick adults and gain access to locations he wouldn't typically be able to because he's a child, and the solution was this toy.

After an original toy and merchandising deal with Mattel fell through, Tiger Electronics negotiated with the production and heard Hughes' pitch for Kevin's electronic device. They then worked out a general design for what the screenwriter had in mind. With only two weeks to go before filming, they managed to deliver a prototype for Macaulay Culkin's character to use in the movie.

The Toy Was For Sale In 1992, But Exploded In Popularity In 1993

As a merchandising partner of Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, Tiger Electronics had the license to produce toys featured in the movie for the holiday season. This included the Talkboy, which retailed for $29.99 when it hit store shelves in 1992.

The toy reportedly sold moderately well, but there were complaints. For one, it couldn't do the things Kevin McCallister did in the movie, and a number of parents complained that their toy contained several swear words upon opening. This was allegedly caused by people using the "try me" feature on the box and recording expletives that would later be heard on Christmas by young, unassuming children.

In 1993, the game changed. Home Alone 2: Lost In New York arrived on VHS, and it sold like hotcakes. In addition, each VHS was packaged with a coupon that touted the Deluxe Talkboy, which did everything the product in the movie did. This created a storm of demand ahead of the holiday shopping season of 1993, which had people around the United States searching feverishly for the hottest toy on the market.

Unfortunately, Tiger Electronics hadn't predicted that the immense popularity of the VHS would result in a surge of interest in the toy, which led to a wild disparity in stock vs. customer demand. According to an interview in the Washington Post, a Tiger representative said the company sold "hundreds of thousands" of the Talkboy Deluxe that holiday season, but demand was closer to about 2 million. Suffice it to say, many disappointed children didn't get a Talkboy that Christmas.

The Talkboy remained a popular Christmas gift for a couple of years beyond 1993, and it has a legacy as one of the most notable toys to appear in a Christmas movie. That's pretty impressive, given there are top-tier movies like Jingle All The Way, which revolve around a toy, yet didn't see a huge demand from consumers for toys like Turbo Man. In fairness, you can't commit identity fraud with Turbo Man.

Buying A Talkboy Now Isn't Impossible, But It Also Isn't Cheap

The Talkboy trademark lapsed in 1999, and you won't find a new one to use if you want to record dialogue from flicks on the 2023 Christmas movie schedule.

A quick search of Talkboys on eBay revealed people are willing to part with their once-beloved holiday toy, but it's well above the original asking price of $29.99. It seems that ones with parts missing will run anywhere from $90 to $120, but an actual working model with limited flaws will be closer to about $200. Those looking for one still in the box will pay a much higher premium, assuming they can find one for sale. It's a small price to pay for a piece of movie merchandising history and a cool toy from Macaulay Culkin's second favorite Home Alone movie.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York is available to stream this holiday season on Disney+, and it is one of many Christmas movies that are great for families to watch in December. Check it out, and maybe keep an eye peeled on online shopping places for someone willing to cut a deal on a Talkboy for me.

Wanna feel old? Well, Home Alone’s Macaulay Culkin is over 40 and engaged to former Disney Channel actress Brenda Song. Oh, and they already have two kids. Time has flown since Kevin McCallister first took on a couple of thieves during Christmas and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody first arrived on cable. Ahead of the couple tying the knot, they just dropped a fire photoshoot they did together, and it has me hoping they'll do a movie together.

Someone play “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves, because look at how these two set each other’s worlds on fire with the warm hues of this adorable shoot! The images show the stars on a bed with a plain mattress without sheets, pillows or anything on it and looking absolutely happy and in love with each other. It really captures their adoration for one another in an unconventional way, and I’m so happy they shared it with the world. So seriously, why don’t these two star in a movie together?

The pair technically have, considering they met on the set of a dramedy called Changeland in 2017 and have been pretty much inseparable ever since. But after these photos, I’m gonna need them to actually headline a rom-com! An epic drama film starring the two of them would also be cool to see. Either way, I'd imagine that the stars' chemistry would be off the charts.

Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song got engaged in early 2022 after previously welcoming their first child, Dakota Song Culkin in April 2021 and they welcomed a second son together in December 2022. The whole family actually had a rare public outing last week when Culkin was honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. During the ceremony, the actor got emotional when he reunited with his Home Alone mom, Catherine O’Hara, who gave a sweet speech about working with him when he was a kid. During the event, Culkin also took a moment to tell Song in front of a crowd of people that she’s the “best person” he’s ever known and that she's given him “purpose” and “family." 

Perhaps the actors bonded over a common experience of finding fame early in their lives with their respective child star careers. Macaulay Culkin’s brother, Kieran, who earned acclaimed as a member of the Succession cast, recalled feeling sorry for his brother when he was younger due to the intense fame he experienced early on due to Home Alone. Both Macaulay and Brenda Song continue to work in Hollywood, but have both taken significant steps back in recent years and seem to be focused on raising their family. After their cinematic photoshoot though, let's hope they'll consider teaming up for another big-screen venture.

The Nightmare Before Christmas voice actress took a moment to recognize her former “fake” son's dedication to his craft and his remarkable composure despite his early fame. In a sweet farewell during the conclusion of her speech, she expressed gratitude for being included in his ceremony. The two shared a hug, and the My Girl star wiped away tears next to the podium, as you saw above. The veteran star concluded her heartfelt message by saying:

Macaulay Culkin's fiancée, 34-year-old actress Brenda Song, accompanied him at the event, along with their two kids, a baby boy born earlier this year and their two-year-old son, Dakota. Natasha Lyonne, a former child star and the 43-year-old actor’s Party Monster co-star, also attended and took the stage after Catherine O'Hara to deliver a speech. The former child star took the stage to share his own speech, wrapping it up with a nod to his famous character Kevin McCallister: "To wrap things up and in the spirit of the holiday season, I just want to say, Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals." I can't think of a better way to have put a cap on such a major event, and it's so heartwarming that he was able to share that moment of glory with Catherine O'Hara and other people close to him. Now, excuse, I have to grab some tissues.

The phrase “former child star” is most often associated with someone who was famous when they were much younger, but is not quite as well-known — or, perhaps, does not even act anymore — as a grown-up. Yet, for every starlet who has risen and fallen, there are just as many who have beaten the odds and have gone onto bigger and better things as adults, like these beloved celebrities.

Macaulay Culkin

The first person you might think of when you think of “former child stars” could be Macaulay Culkin, who was on top of the world when he led the original Home Alone cast as Kevin McCallister. While his notoriety would slow in subsequent years, it is always a treat to see him show up in ensembles like the American Horror Story Season 10 cast or Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic cast.

Lukas Haas

Lukas Haas was one of the most acclaimed young actors of his time with leading roles in 1985’s Witness, opposite Harrison Ford, and the underrated ghost story, Lady in White, from 1988. He has since made a living taking smaller roles in otherwise big movies like Inception and Babylon, plus he's shown up on TV shows like The Righteous Gemstones and War of the Worlds.

Jurnee Smollett

With an Emmy nomination for HBO’s Lovecraft Country, a scene-stealing role in DC’s Birds of Prey, and a stellar turn in Amazon Prime’s The Burial, Jurnee Smollett has established herself as one of the strongest talents of her time. However, that was already clear with her recurring role in Full House and her astonishing performance in 1997’s acclaimed Black horror movie, Eve’s Bayou, when she was still a child.

Jason Bateman

From his debut role on Little House on the Prairie to his years on the sitcom Valerie (which would become The Hogan Family), Jason Bateman showed great versatility as a performer in his younger years. He has upheld that reputation ever since, as seen by his Emmy-nominated work leading the Arrested Development cast and, later, the Ozark cast. His ability to shift from starring in funny movies like Horrible Bosses to dramas like Air is remarkable.

Dakota Fanning

Racking up more than 20 credits before she turned 10, Dakota Fanning was everywhere in the early 2000s — catching the attention of filmmakers like Steven Spielberg for War of the Worlds and holding her own against actors like Robert DeNiro in Hide and Seek. Save her age, nothing much has changed for the actor, who appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood cast and reunited with her Man on Fire co-star, Denzel Washington, in 2023’s The Equalizer 3.

Ryan Gosling

A 13-year-old Ryan Gosling entered show business as a Mouseketeer, paving the way for him to star in back-to-back scary anthology TV shows for kids (Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps), lead Young Hercules, and more. Leading 2004’s The Notebook cast paved the way for him to be an action hero in Drive and Blade Runner 2049. On top of all that, he also earned Oscar nominations for Half Nelson and La La Land, and made us laugh as part of the The Nice Guys ensemble and the Barbie cast as Ken.

Brie Larson

After some faux ads on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show marked her debut at 9, Brie Larson went on to star in a family sitcom with the late Bob Saget (Raising Dad), was in a YA novel adaptation (Hoot), and she even had a singing career in her teens. Now, she is a comic book movie star (for appearing in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and playing the MCU’s Captain Marvel), and she has an Oscar for Room from 2015.

Kenan Thompson

On All That — Nickelodeon’s answer to Saturday Night Live — one of the young cast’s most prominent breakouts was Kenan Thompson, who went on to co-lead his own kid-friendly sitcom with Kel Mitchell, aptly named Kenan & Kel. The Emmy winner went on to break the record for longest-running SNL actor and lead his own adult sitcom, Kenan.

David Krumholtz

After making his debut playing a child actor in 1993’s Life with Mikey, David Krumholtz became a prominent child actor with roles in Addams Family Values as Wednesday’s love interest and Tim Allen’s head elf, Bernard, in The Santa Clause. The crime procedural, Numb3rs, earned him greater recognition, leading to a career that includes lending his voice to Sausage Party, appearing in the Oppenheimer cast, and reprising Bernard on Disney+’s series, The Santa Clauses.

Neil Patrick Harris

Playing a kid genius on Doogie Howser M.D. made Neil Patrick Harris a household name, which he acknowledged when he later played himself in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Of course, the five-time Emmy winner is better known today as Barney Stinson from the How I Met Your Mother cast, Count Olaf on Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, and so much more.

Josh Brolin

At 17, first-time actor Josh Brolin immediately made his mark on pop culture as part of the Goonies cast in the role of Brand Walsh. However, he really got heads turning at 39 when he starred in one of the best movies of the 2000s, No Country for Old Men. The son of Hollywood veteran James Brolin has an Oscar nomination for Milk and multiple comic book movie roles under his belt (Jonah Hex, MCU’s Thanos, and Cable in Deadpool 2), among other great achievements. 

Haley Joel Osment

After debuting in Forrest Gump and starring on The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Haley Joel Osment’s Oscar-nominated performance in, arguably, the best M. Night Shyamalan movie, 1999’s The Sixth Sense, made him a sensation. He went on to earn leading parts in Pay It Forward and Steven Spielberg’s A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. More recently, Osment has been known to pop up in the most unexpected places — Kevin Smith’s Tusk, a guest role on The Boys, Netflix's animated fantasy series Dogs in Space, to name a few — but always with grand results.

Ethan Hawke

After debuting in Joe Dante’s Explorers at 15, Ethan Hawke only grew in prominence in his later teens and throughout his 20s by starring in Dead Poets Society, Reality Bites, etc. He went on to earn Academy Award nominations for Training Day and Boyhood. He completed Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy with 2013’s Before Midnight, became a Scream King with great horror movies like Sinister, and he's done a fair amount of work behind the scenes, too.

Abigail Breslin

Just four years after M. Night Shyamalan gave 6-year-old Abigail Breslin her big break with Signs, her role in the Little Miss Sunshine cast made her one of the youngest Oscar nominees of all time. As she matured, so would her roles — such as a teenage murder suspect in Stillwater or a vigilante in the Accused cast for Fox.

Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik stole the show from the Big Bang Theory cast as Amy Farrah Fowler and later led Fox’s Call Me Kat in the title role. However, the Jeopardy! host’s status as sitcom royalty dates back to the ‘90s as the star of Blossom.

Brenda Song

Perhaps Brenda Song’s most iconic character is London Tipton from the Suite Life franchise — which is just one of the roles that made her a prominent Disney Channel star. Beyond the children’s cable giant, she was in one of the best David Fincher movies, The Social Network, led Netflix’s Secret Obsession, and had a main role in Hulu’s Dollface.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Despite being removed for disruptive behavior when making his show business debut on Romper Room at 3 years old (as he revealed to David Letterman), Leonardo DiCaprio went on to lead a winning child actor’s career that included a season on Growing Pains and an Academy Award nomination for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? Tyler James Williams

Tyler James Williams started out appearing on Sesame Street before landing the title role of Chris Rock’s autobiographical sitcom, Everybody Hates Chris. Following an acclaimed indie comedy (Dear White People) and a recurring role on the Walking Dead cast, the actor became sitcom royalty again when he joined the Abbott Elementary cast, which earned him multiple Emmy nods.

Kurt Russell

Former Disney star Kurt Russell made his feature debut in 1963’s It Happened at the World’s Fair alongside Elvis Presley, and he went on to play him in a made-for-TV biopic and Forrest Gump. Several great movie roles later, Russell is one of the top action heroes of all time, and now he's working with his family by joining the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters cast alongside his son, Wyatt, who is playing his younger self.

Jodie Foster

After getting her start on TV at a very young age (the first gig being The Doris Day Show), Jodie Foster got a head start on the more mature roles she would become known for when she appeared in Taxi Driver at 14. The two-time Academy Award winner (for The Accused and Best Picture Oscar winner The Silence of the Lambs) would continue to work from both in front of and behind the camera.

Johnny Galecki

In 1989, 14-year-old Johnny Galecki appeared as Rusty in the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation cast, and he also starred in another holiday classic, Prancer. I would not be surprised if many did not realize that Leonard from The Big Bang Theory was the same actor, but they were likely more hip to that fact by the time he reprised his role from Roseanne, David Healy, on The Conners.

Miranda Cosgrove

Even with Jack Black in the lead, Miranda Cosgrove stole the show in 2003’s School of Rock, and she went on to do the same thing as the evil Megan in the Nickelodeon sitcom, Drake & Josh. One of her most notable credits as an adult was a Paramount+ exclusive revival of iCarly — another Nickelodeon show she led as a teen.

Keke Palmer

Her bombastic debut role in Barbershop 2: Back in Business made it clear that then-9-year-old Keke Palmer was a powerhouse talent. The Emmy winner would continue to demonstrate her skill as the lead of Akeelah and the Bee and much later in life as part of Jordan Peele’s Nope cast.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar

While Zach Morris from the Saved by the Bell cast is still the role he is best known for — he even reprised it in a Peacock exclusive revival — Mark-Paul Gosselaar managed to prove his versatility in later years. He had a successful stint as a detective on NYPD Blue, played a rebellious lawyer on Franklin & Bash, and an abusive captor in NBC’s Found.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Before starring on the great ‘90s TV show, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Joseph Gordon-Levitt made multiple TV appearances and starred in classic movies like Angels in the Outfield and A River Runs Through It. These days, he is best known for his many collaborations with Rian Johnson, his Golden Globe-nominated turns in (500) Days of Summer and 50/50, and running the creative collaboration platform HitRecord.

Sean Astin

Before playing the title role of Rudy and starring in the Lord of the Rings movies as Sam, Sean Astin was best known as Mikey in The Goonies. In addition to his accomplished voice acting career, one of his most celebrated roles as of late is Bob Newby from the Season 2 cast of Stranger Things — a show very much inspired by The Goonies.

Kirsten Dunst

After making her film debut in star-studded The Bonfire of the Vanities, Kirsten Dunst really made an impression at 12 playing a 70-year-old bloodsucker in Interview with the Vampire. Starring in the Spider-Man movies as Mary Jane Watson swung her right into the A-list and, in 2022, she received an Academy Award nomination for The Power of the Dog.

Kieran Culkin

With his roles in the Home Alone movies and in Steve Martin movies (both parts of Father of the Bride), it seemed like Kieran Culkin was on his way to the same level of stardom as his brother, Macaulay. However, it was not until later in life when he was thrice Emmy-nominated for starring in HBO’s Succession cast that he became the star he was destined to be.

Selena Gomez

Before leading Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place made Selena Gomez a star, she got her start on Barney in the early 2000s. She now has two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her performance on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building cast and a Daytime Emmy nod for her Max original cooking show, Selena + Chef.

Elle Fanning

Before breaking out in the Super 8 cast, Elle Fanning’s claim to fame for a while was starring as a younger version of sister, Dakota, in I Am Sam and Taken. Now, she has an Emmy nomination for leading Hulu’s The Great, which is just one of the many Victorian-era roles she has played in more recent years.

Christina Ricci

For years, Christina Ricci’s performance in Barry Sonnenfeld’s Addams Family movies was the definitive iteration of young Wednesday Addams. The Yellowjackets cast member got to revisit those days with her supporting role on Netflix’s Wednesday cast, opposite Jenna Ortega in the lead this time.

Danica McKellar

Some of the most memorably endearing moments from the original Wonder Years involved Danica McKellar’s Winnie Cooper and her puppy love relationship with Fred Savage as Kevin Arnold. Romance is a big part of the actor’s career these days, primarily appearing in popular Hallmark movies like Christmas She Wrote and Swing into Romance.

Knowing the kind of career they would one day lead, I am sure these celebrities wear their “former child star” identities as a badge of honor.

The Culkin family was the center of pop culture in the 90s. Macaulay Culkin especially was somewhat of an icon, and became one of the most recognizable child stars of all time. He skyrocketed to fame after playing Kevin McCallister in Home Alone, an instant Christmas classic. Now his younger brother, acclaimed actor Kieran Culkin is revealing that he felt sorry for Macaulay during the height of the Home Alone buzz.

The Succession star recently spoke to Esquire about what it was like growing up in an acting family, and how superstardom around his brother affected him. Culkin revealed that there wasn’t any jealousy, and actually, he felt sorry for Macaulay, who had his life and childhood upended by fame: 

It must’ve been brutal, being famous so young. He couldn’t go anywhere without being mobbed by cameras and fans. While he built quite the career, it was probably hard on the entire family. Macaulay Culkin was just 10 years old when he worked on Home Alone, and he made many films in the years following like Home Alone 2, My Girl, and The Good Son.

Meanwhile, Kieran Culkin also had a child acting career. He was also in Home Alone, In a smaller role, and starred in both Father of the Bride films. While Macaulay moved away from acting as he got older and interested in other pursuits, Kieran continued to have a prolific acting career. He received a Golden Globe nomination for Igby Goes Down, and starred alongside Michael Cera in the cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Now, Kieran Culkin is starring in the HBO drama Succession, in which he has been nominated for multiple Emmys and won a Critics Choice Award. He plays Roman Roy, the wisecracking heir to a multimedia conglomerate, who fights for his father’s approval in hopes of taking over the company. He has established himself as an incredible actor in his own right. Succession has a lot of guest characters, so maybe there’s hope for a Macaulay Culkin cameo on the show. He did make an appearance on American Horror Story, so anything is possible.

As a companion piece to his new album of the same name Kid Cudi, also known as Scott Mescudi dropped an animated movie called Entergalactic. It’s animated in a Spider-verse-esque style and uses Kid Cudi’s new tracks to supplement the story being told. 

The special is a unique addition to the 2022 movie schedule and stars a fun ensemble cast of musicians, actors and even Kid Cudi’s family. Big names like Timothée Chalamet are also involved.   

Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi 

Scott Mescudi (also known as Kid Cudi) plays Jabari, a graffiti and comic book artist who is trying to make a name for himself. While Kid Cudi is best known for his music -- like his album Man On the Moon: The End of Day, and being featured on tracks by Kanye West and Travis Scott -- he’s also acted in a few movies. He’s recently shown up in Ti West’s X, which just got a prequel, and last year’s Don’t Look Up. 

Jessica Williams 

 Jessica Williams plays Jabari’s love interest and neighbor Meadow. She’s a photographer who is working to put up her first exhibit. The actress has shown up in multiple comedies like The Incredible Jessica James and Booksmart. In 2021 she starred opposite William Jackson Harper in Love Life. She also plays Eulalie Hicks in the Fantastic Beasts movies.  

Laura Harrier 

Laura Harrier plays Jabari’s ex, Carmen. Let’s just say she makes things complicated. The actress is best known for her work as Liz, Peter Parker’s crush, in Spider-Man: Homecoming and was in Spike Lee’s movie BlaKkKlansman. 

Ty Dolla $ign 

Ty Dolla $ign is one-third of Jabari’s friend trio, his name is Ky. As a rapper, Ty Dolla $ign has worked on tons of movie soundtracks, including F9: The Fast Saga, Suicide Squad and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He’s also done a few cameos, including two episodes of Insecure. 

Timothée Chalamet 

Jimmy is the other third of Jabari’s friend trio, and he is played by Timothée Chalamet. Likely the most well-known actor on this list, Chalamet is known for his work in Call Me By Your Name, Little Women and Dune. He will soon be back as Paul Atreides along with the rest of the Dune 2 cast. He also recently dropped the trailer for Bones and All, and will star in the upcoming movie Wonka. 

Vanessa Hudgens 

Meadow’s best friend Karina is played by Vanessa Hudgens. She is pregnant and she provides advice to Meadow and Jabari during their relationship. Hudgens recently appeared in Tick, Tick…Boom!, and she is a holiday staple with Netflix’s The Princess Switch movies. Back in the day, she made a name for herself by playing Gabriella in the Disney Channel classic High School Musical. 

Christopher Abbott 

Christopher Abbott plays Reed, an art dealer working with Meadow. The actor played Yossarian in the mini-series adaptation of Catch-22. He’s also appeared in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and the show Girls.  

Keith David 

Mr. Rager is Jabari’s smooth-talking character he is working to turn into the star of a comic book series. He’s played by Keith David, whose iconic voice has also appeared in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, where he played Dr. Facilier. He’s also known for his roles in The Thing and Armageddon.  

Arturo Castro 

Arturo Castro plays Len, Jabari’s co-worker at Cosmic Comics. While Castro hasn’t appeared in much, he’s known for his role on Broad City, and he will be playing Pablo Escobar in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. He’s also had small roles on American Dad! and Terminal List.  

Jaden Smith 

 Jaden Smith plays Jordan, a BMX superstar, who talks with Jabari and Jimmy about their relationships. The actor-turned-musician is the son of Will Smith. Jaden is known as an actor for his work with his dad in the Pursuit of Happyness. He’s also a musician who has his own music and has been featured on tracks with Young Thug, Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky.  

070 Shake 

070 Shake plays Nadia, an artist who is showing an exhibit in the same museum as Meadow. 070 Shake is know for her music, Entergalactic her first foray into acting. She has appeared on various movie soundtracks though, including the HBO series Industry and the movies Scream and Black Is King.  

 Macaulay Culkin 

Downtown Pat is a stoner man who the boys run into at the skate park. Voiced by Macaulay Culkin he tells the boys a story of a girl he met at the club. Though it’s just a cameo, Culkin is one of the better-known actors in this cast. Obviously, he’s best known for the Home Alone movies and My Girl which he starred in at a very young age. Recently he’s appeared on shows like American Horror Story and The Righteous Gemstones.  

 Maisha Mescudi 

Maisha Mescudi plays Ellie, Jabari’s older sister. Maisha is Kid Cudi’s older sister in real life too. Entergalactic is the only movie she’s appeared in and she’s not in the music business.  

 Francesca Reale 

Francesca Reale plays Sydnie, an artist and friend of Reed’s. The actress has appeared in supporting roles on a lot of Netflix’s popular projects. She played Heather Holloway in Season 3 of Stranger Things and recently had a supporting role in the movie Do Revenge.  

 Kenya Barris 

Kenya Burris makes a small appearance as a moderator. Burris also worked closely with Kid Cudi to create the Netflix special, as a writer and executive producer on Entergalactic. He mentioned that he learned a lot making it, and liked working on a “musically-driven project.” Along with this special, he created the hit TV shows Black-ish and Grown-ish and wrote the 2022 version of Cheaper by the Dozen.  

 Luis Guzmán 

In a quick cameo, Luis Guzmán shows up as a huge mover who helps Jabari move into his new apartment. Guzmán is best known for his roles in movies like Boogie Nights and Punch-Drunk Love. He’s also been on quite a few shows, he was a recurring character on Narcos, and he can soon be seen as Gomez Addams on Wednesday.  

 Teyana Taylor 

Teyana Taylor makes a cameo as a boxing instructor in the movie. She is known for her work in Coming 2 America and Kanya West: Fade. She’s best known as a musician and has quite a few albums including K.T.S.E. and The Album. 

There are lots of recognizable names and voices throughout Entergalactic. Barris has spoken about the possibility of continuing the story of these characters, which would be super fun, especially with such a great cast from the music and film industries. For now, though, you can check out Kid Cudi’s animated feature with a Netflix subscription. 

Every once in a while, celebrity siblings - such as Ben and Casey Affleck or Dakota and Elle Fanning - end up sharing the screen together. Well, apparently it happens a little more often than just every once in a while, given the amount of examples we compiled below.

Jake And Maggie Gyllenhaal (A Dangerous Woman, Homegrown, Donnie Darko)

Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and his twice-nominated older sister, Maggie, are in three movies together: 1993’s A Dangerous Woman, 1998’s Homegrown (both were directed by their father, Stephen), and the eventual sci-fi cult classic, Donnie Darko, in 2001.

Jeff And Beau Bridges (The Fabulous Baker Boys)

Oscar winner Jeff Bridges and his older brother, Beau, also played siblings in The Fabulous Baker Boys - a 1989 comedy in which the titular musicians become rivals after teaming up with a beautiful aspiring singer (Michelle Pfieffer).

Kate And Rooney Mara (Urban Legends: Bloody Mary)

Kate Mara of the House of Cards cast led the 2005 straight-to-video slasher, Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, in which her younger sister, Nightmare Alley’s Rooney Mara, made her acting debut.

Sean And Chris Penn (At Close Range)

Future two-time Oscar-winner Sean Penn and his late younger brother, Chris (best known from the Reservoir Dogs cast) played siblings in the 1986 crime thriller, At Close Range, starring Christopher Walken as their criminal father.

Andrew, Owen, And Luke Wilson (Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums) 

Owen Wilson and his younger sibling, Luke have also acted alongside their eldest brother, Andrew, in 1996’s Bottle Rocket and The Royal Tenenbaums from 2001 - both of which Owen also co-wrote with director Wes Anderson.

Chris And Luke Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok)

Chris Hemsworth has yet to star in anything with his little bro, Liam, but the Australian Marvel movie star’s older bother, Westworld star Luke, did show up in Thor: Ragnarok as a dramatized version of the God of Thunder, whom he is set to reprise (along with Matt Damon as “Actor Loki”) in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Dylan And Cole Sprouse (Various)

Twin brothers Dylan and Cole Sprouse (the latter of which went on to join the Riverdale cast) have shared the same role in several TV shows (most notably Grace Under Fire) and movies (such as Big Daddy with Adam Sandler) and have played siblings just as often, most famously as the title characters of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, its spin-off The Suite Life on Deck, and 2011’s The Suite Life Movie.

Tia, Tamera, And Tahj Mowry  (Sister, Sister, Smart Guy, Seventeen Again)

Twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry have shared the screen with their little brother, Tahj, several times - most notably as guest stars on each other’s respective sitcoms, Sister, Sister and Smart Guy, and in the 2000 Showtime original movie, Seventeen Again.

James And Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist)

After years finding success in the business in separate projects, James Franco and his younger brother, Dave, played Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero of the infamous cult favorite, The Room, in the 2017 biopic, The Disaster Artist.

Hilary And Haylie Duff (Various)

Haylie Duff would appear on three episodes of her younger sister, Hilary’s, Disney Channel show, Lizzie McGuire, and provided the singing voice of Isabella Parigi in the theatrical spin-off before they both played a singing group on an episode of American Dreams, sisters in the 2006 rags-to-riches story Material Girls, and both leant their voices to the infamous animated movie Foodfight!, which was released in 2012.

Aly And AJ Michalka (Various)

Singer-songwriter duo Aly and AJ Michalka first shared the screen in the 2006 Disney Channel original movie Cow Belles as sisters, again in the MTV original Super Sweet 16: The Movie the next year as rivals, followed by three episodes of Aly’s CW series Hellcats in 2011 as half-sisters. Most recently, they appeared in the 2015 drama, Weepah Way For Now, as what appear to be fictionalized versions of themselves.

Dakota And Elle Fanning (I Am Sam, Taken)

Elle Fanning has portrayed a younger version of her older sister, Dakota, on two separate occasions: first in the 2001 drama I Am Sam and secondly in the Steven Spielberg-produced, Syfy original miniseries, Taken, in 2002.

Spencer And Abigail Breslin (Various)

Academy Award nominee Abigail and her older brother, Spencer, played siblings in both Raising Helen and The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement in 2004, played elves in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006, and later played cousins in the 2014 crime drama, Perfect Sisters.

Jason And Justine Bateman (Arrested Development)

Justine Bateman played her real-life brother, Jason's, sibling in the 1986 TV movie Can You Feel Me Dancing? and a sex worker whom Jason’s Michael Bluth mistakes for his long-lost sibling on Arrested Development.

John, Joan, Ann, And Bill Cusack (Grosse Pointe Blank)

While beloved star John Cusack and his Academy-nominated sister, Joan, have appeared in more films together than most celebrity siblings can claim (including Say Anything… and High Fidelity), the only screen credit that they also share with both their sister, Ann, and brother, Bill, is 1997’s Grosse Pointe Blank, which John also co-wrote and produced.

Bill And Brian Doyle Murray (Various)

The Wayans Siblings (Various) 

Where do we start with the Wayans Siblings? Well, for instance, several of them (such as Damon and Kim Wayans) were a part of the In Living Color cast with star and creator Keenen Ivory Wayans, who later directed his younger brothers, Marlon and Shawn, in movies like White Chicks, the first two Scary Movie installments, and Little Man.

Zooey And Emily Deschanel (Bones)

In Season 5 of Bones, star Emily Deschanel’s sister (Zooey of the Elf cast fame and later the lead of the New Girl cast) guest starred as Temperance Brennan’s second cousin, Margaret Whitesell.

Fred And Ben Savage (Little Monsters, The Wonder Years, Boy Meets World)

Euphoria’s Maude Apatow and her younger sister, Iris, have played siblings in 2007’s Knocked Up, its “sort-of sequel” This is 40 from 2012, and 2009’s Funny People - all three of which also starred their real mother, Leslie Mann, as their mother, and were written and directed by their father, Judd Apatow.

Dan And Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek)

While Annie Murphy plays co-creator Dan Levy’s on-screen sister in the Schitt’s Creek cast, Café Tropical owner, Twyla Sands, is played by his real-life sister, Sarah.

Mary-Kate, Ashley, And Elizabeth Olsen (How The West Was Fun)

After Full House made the Olsen Twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, household names and  before the Marvel movies made their younger sister, Elizabeth, an A-lister, all three of them appeared together in the ABC original TV movie How the West Was Fun in 1994.

Bill And Alexander Skarsgård (White Water Fury)

Years before his terrifying performance as Pennywise in It, Bill Skarsgård made his acting debut alongside his older brother, True Blood cast member Alexander, in the 2000 Swedish thriller, White Water Fury.

Blake And Robyn Lively (Simon Says)

Robyn Lively, star of 1989’s Teen Witch, shared the screen with her then up-and-coming half-sister, former Gossip Girl cast member Blake Lively, in a 2006 slasher flick called Simon Says, which also stars fellow ‘80s icon Crispin Glover.

Brian And Domhnall Gleeson (Mother!, Frank Of Ireland)

Despite plenty of years of experience between the them, it was not until 2017 when Star Wars star Domnhall Gleeson and his younger brother, Brian, shared the screen in Mother! before reuniting as co-creators and co-stars of the Amazon Prime original comedy Frank of Ireland - also starring their father, Brendan Gleeson.

Eddie And Charlie Murphy (Harlem Nights, Norbit)

Comedy icon Eddie Murphy worked behind the scenes a lot with his older brother, Charlie, who passed away in 2017, but the two would also share a few acting credits, - namely Eddie’s 1989 directorial debut Harlem Nights (also Charlie’s first movie), and in 2006’s Norbit, in which Charlie voiced a dog named Floyd.

Phylicia Rashad And Debbie Allen (The Cosby Show, Grey’s Anatomy, The Old Settler)

Phylicia Rashad and her younger sister, Emmy-winning dance legend Debbie Allen, have made guest appearances on each other’s shows - The Cosby Show, on which Rashad played Claire Huxtable, and Grey’s Anatomy, on which Allen plays Dr. Catherine Fox (née Avery) - and both starred in a 2001 TV movie called The Old Settler, which Allen also directed.

Ron And Clint Howard (Various)

It’s been three decades since My Girl premiered in theaters. The coming-of-age film took Anna Chlumsky from being an unknown child actress to one of the top child stars in the 1990s. Not only did the film become the biggest surprise hit of 1991 but a beloved cult classic amongst Gen X and Millennials. That enduring love for the drama has etched Chlumsky as a nine-year-old in some fans’ minds. As grateful as she is to the film, the Veep alum has gotten tired of fans asking about it. The actress was honest when spilling why she’s over being asked about her breakthrough role.

For many devoted fans, the kiss between Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin left an impression on them. That moment and many others have led to the film being regarded as one of Culkin's best movies. Fans becoming possessive of certain actors based on certain roles can verge into scary or creepy territory as Anna Chlumsky alluded to. Of course, there will always be those fans who will always see her as Vada and nothing more. Actors like Sylvester Stallone have taken those questions and turned them on their heads by trolling fans in some cases. Other fan interactions can turn scary as was the case with the kidnapping attempt of WWE's Sonya Deville. But given her history in recent years, this spoke more to nostalgia turning into something more bizarre. It also leaned into the typecasting many child stars must fight after achieving stardom at a young age.

As much as Chlumsky hates the question, the film touched the hearts of audiences. After debuting in 1991, My Girl became a sleeper hit, grossing over $121 million at the box office. It went on to spawn a 1994 sequel, which scored less acclaim and grossed only $28 million at the box office.

At least, now, Anna Chlumsky has grown beyond My Girl after starring in several stage productions and indie films. Chlumsky regained her mainstream success by starring in all seven seasons of HBO’s acclaimed comedy Veep. After Veep completed its run, she took a small break before reemerging in the Rugrats reboot as the business-obsessed Charlotte Pickles. Nothing will make you feel old quicker than seeing the actors behind iconic childhood moments enter their middle years. Macaulay Culkin will always be known as Home Alone’s rambunctious Kevin McCallister, and if your childhood didn’t involve you slapping pretend aftershave on your face and then screaming into a mirror, well, my sympathies. That 1990 Christmas classic is so ingrained in pop culture that it’s jarring to believe that Culkin is now 41 years old, and his new project probably isn't going to make you feel better.

Macaulay Culkin is working with the production company Lightbox on a documentary travel show called Macaulay Culkin’s Midlife Crisis. Deadline reports the series will address subjects including our youth-obsessed society, what midlife success looks like and ensuring our unbridled passion doesn’t become a relic of our youth. 

I guess getting older is something we all have to deal with, and turning the big 4-0 doesn’t mean the rest of your life is spent eating dinner at 5 p.m. and yelling at Gen Z to get off your lawn and turn their music down. Macaulay Culkin’s show will reportedly take him on a wild journey to discover what middle age really means. The inspiration for the series came after Culkin went viral with a tweet in August 2020, when the actor officially went “over the hill.” He said his 40th birthday gift to the world was to make all of us feel old.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, “KEVIN!” I guess I can’t blame the former child star for wanting to remind people he’s no longer the pre-teen setting up booby traps to catch the Wet/Sticky Bandits. Macaulay Culkin has done plenty of projects since his Home Alone movies — The Good Son, Richie Rich, Saved!, even American Horror Story — but when you strike gold at 10 years old, that’s a burden you’re going to have to bear. Macaulay Culkin is a dad now, as he and fiancee Brenda Song welcomed their son Dakota into the world in April 2021. Culkin has been with the former Disney star since meeting on the set of the movie Changeland in 2017, and the couple announced recently that they’re engaged.

Seeing child actors grow up can be a hard pill to swallow, but just think, in a few years, Dakota Culkin will be old enough to take over the leading role in the inevitable next Home Alone reboot. Ready to feel old? Home Alone’s “KEVIN”, Macaulay Culkin is getting ready to get married to former Disney Channel star Brenda Song after the pair welcomed a child of their own nine months ago. This couple brings up all kinds of childhood nostalgia and now they’re set to say their vows to one another and be a young family. Congratulations to Culkin and Song! 

The engagement news comes via People, which spotted Brenda Song sporting an engagement ring on her left finger while out in Beverly Hills, California. The couple have been together for four years and are new parents to a son named Dakota. 

Macaulay Culkin, who is 41 and Brenda Song, who is 33, met on the set of the movie Changeland back in 2017. Since then, the pair have been pretty much inseparable. Back in 2018, Culkin said “this one's a good one, so I'm probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit” when talking about his relationship with Brenda Song as he shared the pair’s plans to move in together. 

The couple remain private on their social media, but when Macaulay Culkin turned 40, Brenda Song put out a little bit of PDA to share that she is “the luckiest person in the world” because she is loved by Culkin. Check out the sweet post: 

The clear common thread between the pair is how their careers began at young ages. Macaulay Culkin is still best known for his role in Home Alone, even though he has yet to reprise the role as an adult aside from a viral Google ad in 2018. The recent Disney+ remake was not warmly recieved, but the actor recently found an epic role in American Horror Story following a successful career as a child actor.  

Brenda Song got her start on Disney Channel, notably starring in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody along with other hit original DCOMs like Get A Clue, Stuck in the Suburbs and Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. The actress spoke out about not being allowed to audition for Crazy Rich Asians in 2019 to some pushback from the director, Jon M. Chu. The actress is currently a star on Hulu’s Dollface alongside Kat Dennings, Shay Mitchell and Malin Ackerman. 

When speaking about their relationship in 2019, Song shared that she and Culkin bonded over their experiences as child actors, saying that “you just look each other in the eye and you nod and we know” to Entertainment Tonight. Back in April 2021, the couple welcomed their first child Dakota Song Culkin, who is named after Macaulay’s late sister, who was killed in a traffic accident back in 2008.

SPOILERS are ahead for Home Sweet Home Alone, now streaming on Disney+. 

Since we learned that the Home Alone franchise would be back this holiday season, one word remained on many lips: KEVIN! Macaulay Culkin's young Kevin McCallister was obviously the best part of these holiday classics, but no, he does not make his way into Disney+’s Home Sweet Home Alone. However, there is a sweet connection drawn between the 1990 movie and the new movie that gives us an idea of how Kevin is doing these days. 

As we previously spotted in the trailer, Kevin’s older brother Buzz, played by Devin Retray, is back for Home Sweet Home Alone, and he’s grown up to become a police officer. He just so happens to be on patrol around town as Archie Yates’ Max gets left home during the Christmas season and finds himself defending his home from some invaders, Jeff and Pam McKenzie (played by Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper). 

When Max first calls the police on the McKenzies, Buzz McCallister is the one who answers the calls, but it’s really what happens later in the movie that connects Home Alone to Home Sweet Home Alone. Max’s family calls the police to warn them that they left their child home alone, and the unit calls on Buzz to check out the house. Buzz is not too worried about the whole thing because apparently Kevin, who would be around 40 years old these days, prank calls his brother every year… you know, to thank him for the childhood trauma. But that’s one of two reveals about Kevin the movie includes. 

As Buzz is sharing with his unit that Kevin was left at home as a child and prank calls him, he also says that he was at the same house earlier and it had a McCallister Home Alarm System. You can also see the name on Max’s own home alarm system in the below screenshot from Home Sweet Home Alone: 

In other words, it looks like Kevin grew up and became a businessman who fitted his own alarm systems. What’s ironic about that is it doesn’t really work, as the McKenzies do, in fact, get inside Max’s home. However, it is kind of fun to imagine that Kevin was able to apply his natural talents from the Home Alone movies for good. 

Devin Retray also adds two more little connections in there with his return to Buzz. For one, he says “I don’t think so” the same way Kevin did in Home Alone when he was getting groceries from the store and was asked if he was on his own. And then as the scene closes, Buzz breaks out one of his classic insults “Trout Sniffer.” Check out Home Sweet Home Alone on Disney+ now, and Happy Disney+ Day! 

Whenever the holiday season rolls around, it’s become a modern tradition for many to tune into Home Alone while cozying up with loved ones, a warm fire and hot cocoa. A big reason why audiences love the family movie is because Malcaulay Culkin was simply perfect as Kevin McCallister. There’s been three other child actors who have tried to recapture the magic of Home Alone in subsequent sequels, and one more will join them when Disney+ debuts Home Sweet Home Alone next month. 

The Home Sweet Home Alone trailer dropped on Tuesday ahead of the Disney+ original being released on the streaming platform just in time to ring in the Christmas season. 41-year-old Malcaulay Culkin took to Twitter after the first look was revealed to clear one thing up: 

There you have it. No, a middle-aged Kevin McCallister will not be making an appearance in the upcoming Home Alone movie. As Culkin shared, the Disney+ original is a “reboot” rather than a sequel or remake. Although, the idea of Kevin returning may not feel too far off considering Devin Ratray is in the film reprising his role as Kevin's older brother Buzz, who is apparently a police officer in his adult life. 

The movie stars 12-year-old Archie Yates, who will play a boy named Max who gets accidentally left alone at home while his family goes to Tokyo for the holidays. While home alone, Max has to defend his home from a criminal couple who have their eye on stealing a priceless heirloom from his home. The couple will be played by The Office’s Ellie Kemper and Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney. Also among the cast of Home Sweet Home Alone is Ally Maki and SNL cast members Kenan Thompson and Mikey Day. Day also co-wrote the script with SNL writer Streeter Seidell. Check out the trailer: 

The movie looks like it will share a lot of elements with the original 1990 movie, with a few slight changes to the storyline. It’s been over 30 years since Macaulay Culkin’s famed Christmas movie first hit theaters, so perhaps it’s time for a new generation to grab hold of the Home Alone franchise. Or at least try to. Home Sweet Home Alone will premiere on the streaming service’s Disney+ Day, on November 12. That will be the same day Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives, along with some other exciting titles. 

It would be pretty fun to see Macaulay Culkin return to Kevin McCallister as an adult for another Home Alone movie. Perhaps it could be a new spin on it where a middle-aged Kevin finds himself getting back to his home alone antics at his childhood home, maybe after getting kicked out by his wife or something. Then again, the implications of Home Alone for an adult Kevin may not be quite as cheerful.

Home Alone 2 (1992)

With all of the major players from the original reprising their roles (plus a few great additions), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York remains one of the best sequels of all time and is right up there with the original. In terms of story, the way it tugs at your heart-strings, and the way it makes you wince in pain whenever you think about Kevin McCallister’s (Macaulay Culkin) second run-in with Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), the 1992 holiday comedy is a jolly good time, even if some people call it mediocre at best.

My Girl (1991)

The 1991 coming-of-age story My Girl centers on Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky), the daughter of a funeral home director whose mother died during childbirth. Over the course of a summer, the 11-year-old tomboy finds companionship in the soft-spoken and fragile yet extremely loyal Thomas J. Sennett (Macaulay Culkin) as she finds herself at the crossroads of childhood and her pre-teenage years. I’ll hold back the spoilers here, but this movie takes a devastating and heartbreaking turn with a pair of scenes that will break your heart all these years later.

The Good Son (1993)

A major departure from most of the film roles he was taking at the time, Macaulay Culkin appears in The Good Son as the menacing and devilish Henry Evans. This frightening 1993 psychological thriller that feels like something out of the pages of a Stephen King novel centers on Mark Evans (Elijah Wood), a young boy sent to spend time with his extended family when his father sets off for a business trip not long after his mother passes away. Mark’s interactions with his cousin start off strange but take a dark turn when Henry kills a dog in cold blood and begins to turn his attention to hurting humans instead. While not the best movie of Culkin’s career, his commitment to the sinister nature of his character is astonishing if not terrifying.

Uncle Buck (1989)

Not long before he became an international superstar with Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin appeared in another John Hughes production: 1989’s Uncle Buck. When their parents have to leave town unexpectedly, the Russell children are left under the watchful eye of their uncle, Buck Russell (John Candy), a cigar-smoking, foul-mouthed, and bowling-obsessed mess of a man. Some of the best interactions throughout the movie come whenever Buck and Miles Russell (Culkin) appear alongside one another, especially when the 8-year-old asks a series of personal questions with a deadpan expression and great comedic timing.

Richie Rich (1994)

The 1994 comedy Richie Rich, which just so happened to be Macaulay Culkin’s final acting gig until he showed back up as an adult in the early 2000s, sees the child star take on the role of the titular comic book character. The envy of pretty much every kid who saw the movie (besides the whole missing parents part), Culkin’s millionaire had all the gadgets, gizmos, and celebrity dance and baseball instructors anyone could ask for (he even had is own McDonald’s). That is until his parents’ private plane crashes in the middle of the ocean, leaving their vast empire (and the family’s gigantic sculpture) at risk of being taken over by the conniving Laurence Van Dough (John Larroquette).

Rocket Gibraltar (1988)

One of the forgotten gems of Macaulay Culkin’s early days, the 1988 drama Rocket Gibraltar centers on aging writer named Levi Rockwell (Burt Lancaster) as he spends what he thinks will be his final days with his children and grandchildren at his Hamptons beach house. When his adult children don’t want to discuss his mortality, the dying man turns to his grandchildren, especially the youngest of the bunch, Cy Blue Black (Culkin), to carry out his dying wish of having his family give him a viking funeral.

Party Monster (2003)

In his first starring role since 1994’s Richie Rich, Macaulay Culkin took on the role of the infamous New York City club promoter-turned-murderer in the 2003 biographical drama Party Monster. From his arrival in the NYC club and party scene all the way to his involvement in the death of Club Kid member Andre “Angel” Melendez, Michael Alig’s story is told in a flashy yet extremely shocking manner, one that is brought to life by Culkin’s charisma and dedication to a role much different than anything he had taken before.

Saved (2004)

The 2004 satirical comedy Saved follows Mary Cummings (Jena Malone), a high school student who becomes pregnant when she offers her virginity to her gay ex-boyfriend, Dean Wither (Chad Faust), in order to save him. When the plan fails and Mary becomes the target of ridicule at his conservative high school, she turns to other outcasts — Roland Stockard (Macaulay Culkin) and Cassandra Edelstein (Eva Amurri) — as she tries to get through school and her former best friend Hilary Faye Stockard (Mandy Moore).

Jacob’s Ladder (1990)

The 1990 mind-bending horror film Jacob’s Ladder (which was later remade) follows returning Vietnam War veteran Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) as he starts to lose his touch with reality in the 1970s New York City. Along the way, Jacob’s deteriorating mental state leads him to have interactions with his deceased son Gabe (Macaulay Culkin in an uncredited performance) as well as alternate realities where everything was fine following the war. You never know who to believe in this one, especially the damaged soldier.

See You In The Morning (1989)

The 1989 romantic comedy See You in the Morning largely deals with the budding romance shared by Larry Livingstone (Jeff Bridges) and Beth Goodwin (Alice Krige), but as the film goes on, their respective pasts and children become major factors in the course of their relationship. With a group of talented child actors who would go on to have successful careers — Drew Barrymore, Lukas Haas, Macaulay Culkin — providing for much of the drama and heart of the story, this tale of two families coming together through tragedy and new beginnings is worth watching, even if it’s lost to time for many.

This awesome fan art of Macaulay Culkin is actually just a heavily photoshopped version of a red carpet image. In it we see the Home Alone icon rocking Joker's signature clown white skin, green hair, and painted lips. It's a look straight from the comics, and Culkin truly transforms thanks to editing that extends and points his jaw, while also raising his eyebrows. Both of these effects could be done easily with make-up, further proving how awesome the actor could look in the role.

Of course, there's currently no indication as to if/when Matt Reeves will introduce Joker to his burgeoning Batman franchise. Home Alone is often a topic around the holidays, but over the past couple of months it has actually been the film’s sequel Home Alone 2: Lost In New York that became a large talking point in pop culture. First, the sequel’s Pigeon Lady revealed she spends her holidays home alone, then a petition rolled around asking that Donald Trump’s cameo be removed from Home Alone 2 and more recently both Macaulay Culkin and Donald Trump commented on the movie.

As I said, Home Alone 2 has been very prominent lately. The most recent touchstone actually came about after the actor’s union SAG-AFTRA was moving forward with procedures to remove Donald Trump, who had been in the Union --and even has his own Hollywood star -- after appearing in a slew of productions in both movies and on television over the past several decades.

Instead, President Donald Trump decided to simply quit the Union in a very specific manner, releasing a statement to SAG-AFTRA President President Gabrielle Carteris that mentioned how “proud” he is of the work he put in for movies including Home Alone 2.

The timing is more related to Gabrielle Carteris wanting to oust former President Trump after the riot incidents in the Capitol that occurred back in January. But it also ties in with the petition to remove Donald Trump from Home Alone 2 that ran around Twitter (and also on Change.org) after a fan digitally removed Trump from the scene in the movie.

That video was lauded by Home Alone 2 star Macaulay Culkin and subsequently went viral in a post Culkin said “bravo” to.

Chris Columbus, who directed Home Alone 2 in 1992, said late last year that he had added the Donald Trump moment only came about after Trump himself requested to be in the film. Home Alone 2 wanted to shoot in the Plaza and that was what allegedly, mentioning to Insider that Trump said:

In the time since all of this happened and Donald Trump ultimately stepped down, SAG-AFTRA took steps so that the former film and TV personality could not be re-admitted. This week, the board voted and confirmed that any application for “re-admission” by Donald Trump would not be considered. Gabrielle Carteris called it “more than a symbolic step,” noting in a press release that behaving in a threatening manner will “not be tolerated.”
