A few years ago it seemed like you couldn’t look at celebrity news headlines without seeing that Nick Cannon had fathered another child. The Masked Singer host has had 12 babies with six women, and while he and his baby mamas have always defended their unconventional lifestyle, Cannon has opened up about the “trauma” that he said resulted in having so many children.

Nick Cannon was a guest on The Breakfast Club radio show, where he said he’s learned that his actions a few years ago that led to so many babies — three in 2021; five in 2022 — were a response to unresolved trauma. The actor explained:

Nick Cannon has said before that he was always fully aware that not using birth control could lead to his partners getting pregnant, and here he admits that he was being "frivolous" with just saying “whatever happens happens.”

He mentions having enough money, and while he apparently doesn’t pay child support through the government, he has said he does provide for the mothers of his children, likely spending more than what would be required by law. Just for Disneyland alone, Nick Cannon has said he spends around $200,000 a year.

Despite the fact that money isn’t an issue, the Drumline star acknowledges that things might be different if he’d dealt with his trauma in a different way, saying:

Does that mean he wouldn’t have so many children? Not necessarily, he said, continuing:

It’s good that Nick Cannon is now trying to work through his unresolved trauma, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s sired a pretty large brood. He doesn't seem to have any regrets, though he admits to not having “a normal existence,” and says each day brings new challenges. He said he embraces it all.

While Mariah Carey’s first big movie was critically panned and a box-office bomb, the same source said Carey reportedly still gets “compliments” for one of her other transformative performances in Lee Daniels’ Precious. The “Hero” singer even directed and starred in the great Christmas movie, A Christmas Melody. Her acting comeback would surely satisfy her fans.

In terms of getting her acting career up and going, Star Magazine’s source claimed the singer has been contacting people about “making more noise in the movie space.” The source also alleged that Mariah Carey would reportedly prefer to act, compared to spending the next few years being featured in a documentary about her decades-long career:

There’s never been any public confirmation of their being a feud between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez. Also in the early 2000s, the “Like That” singer infamously said she didn’t “know” the “On the Floor” performer. However, rumors of an alleged feud went way back to the late ‘90s when Jennifer Lopez collaborated with record executive Tommy Mottola around the time of his divorce from Mariah Carey.

Billy Joel

The "Piano Man" himself first performed at Studio 8H in Season 3 on an episode hosted by Chevy Chase, which was also the first time the short-lived SNL cast member came back to host. After a return in 1981, Billy Joel's third time on the show was eight years later in 1989, which saw him perform "We Didn't Start the Fire."

Foo Fighters

Following two appearances with Nirvana and a third as an impromptu drummer for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dave Grohl made his SNL debut as frontman of Foo Fighters in December 1995, a year after the release of their debut album. The rock band (which has gone through a vast rotation of members since) also performed with Mick Jagger as special guests in 2012 and some of the best SNL sketches featuring musicians have involved Grohl.

Miley Cyrus

Having become famous as a TV star (while leading Disney Channel's Hannah Montana) before her music career really took off, it makes sense that Miley Cyrus made her SNL debut as a host in 2011 before returning as both host and musical guest two years later. Some of the Grammy winner's most notable performances on the show include the SNL 40th Anniversary Special and a pre-taped rendition of "Wish You Were Here" that aired during the Covid-era "SNL At Home" days.

Justin Timberlake

A celebrity who qualifies for SNL's Five-Timers Club as both a host and musical guest is Justin Timberlake, who might be one of the best SNL hosts we have ever seen for that matter. His first time performing music on the show, however, was in 2000 with NSYNC but some of his especially memorable musical moments on the show have been his raunchy collaborations with Andy Samberg.

Coldplay

A year after releasing their hit debut album, Parachutes, in 2000, British rock band Coldplay was booked on SNL for the first of several gigs. Lead singer Chris Martin is known for appearing in a few sketches – including one of the most popular SNL clips on YouTube, in which he helps Andrew Garfield finish The Amazing Spider-Man 2's kissing scene – and performed solo for the first Covid-era "At Home" episode.

Beyoncé

If you include her two appearances as part of Destiny's Child and her special guest appearance alongside her husband, Jay-Z, Beyoncé has performed on SNL five times between 2001 and 2008. She also appeared in a sketch offering a humorous dramatization of the making of the "Single Ladies" video and has been impersonated countless times by SNL and Groundlings alum Maya Rudolph.

Randy Newman

The second-ever episode of SNL marked the show's first appearance by Randy Newman, who would perform five more times up until 1988. The singer-songwriter would expand his audience when he wrong captivating, award-nominated songs for several beloved Pixar movies, including Toy Story's "You Got a Friend in Me."

Eminem

Most of Eminem's many SNL performances have been collaborative efforts. For instance, the rapper made his 1999 debut on the show with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, performed "Stan" with Dido the following year, and would bring Skylar Grey along for two separate occasions – for "Survival" in 2013 and a medley of "Walk on Water," "Stan," and "Love the Way You Lie" in 2017.

Taylor Swift

Any of the several times that Taylor Swift has appeared at Studio 8H has been a notable occasion. This not only includes her many appearances as a musical guest (the second of which doubled as a hosting gig) but also her jaw-dropping SNL cameos, such as her impromptu introduction of Ice Spice in the Season 49 premiere.

Paul Simon

No one has appeared on SNL as a musical guest more times than Paul Simon, who was also one of several performers when he hosted the show's second ever episode. Many of his 15 gigs (as of 2018) were shared with musicians like George Harrison, his wife Edie Brickell, and Alicia Keys.

Rihanna

Surprisingly, it was not until 2009 when Rihanna made her SNL debut, featuring guest Young Jeezy for her performance of "Hard." She would go on to show up at Studio 8H several more time, two of which saw her appear in SNL Digital Shorts with Andy Samberg as "Shy Ronnie."

Sting

The Police had already broken up by the time Sting made his SNL debut in 1987. Before the end of the 20th Century, he would appear five more times, including one gigs doubling as host and musical guest and another as just the host, featuring performances by Veruca Salt.

Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire had the pleasure of performing alongside Mick Jagger as special guests when the Rolling Stones frontman hosted in 2012, which we will also count as their third SNL gig. The indie rock outfit has also appeared in a few sketches, such as an SNL Digital Shorts and a game show-style bit challenging host Tina Fey to guess who is a new cast member or a member of the band.

Jack White

On the same night Woody Harrelson was inducted into the Five-Timers Club, Jack White was also given a robe for preforming on SNL for the fifth time in February 2023. This would include when he made his debut in 2002, billed alongside former bandmate Meg White as The White Stripes.

Leon Redbone

Before his death in 2019, Leon Redbone appeared as a musical guest on SNL four times, first in 1976 and lastly in 1983. While the blues musician would go on to do some acting, such as voicing Leon the Snowman in the 2003 Christmas movie classic, Elf, he never appeared in any sketches during any of his visits to Studio 8H.

Linda Ronstadt

After making her Studio 8H debut in a cold open cameo in 1977, Linda Ronstadt would first perform on SNL two years later with co-musical guest Phoebe Snow. She shared her next three gigs with the cast of The Pirates of Penzance in 1980, The Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán in 1987, and Aaron Neville in 1989.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

Rock and roll icons Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performed on SNL eight times. The last time was in 2010 – for which Petty appeared in an SNL Digital Short opposite Andy Samberg and host Alec Baldwin – before the frontman's death in 2017.

Bonnie Raitt

As of 1994, Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Bonnie Raitt has been an SNL musical guest four times. Her debut was in 1978 but the three subsequent appearance would all occur in the early 1990s.

Aerosmith

Despite breaking out a few years before SNL premiered, Aerosmith would not appear on the show until 1990, when they also starred in a legendary "Wayne's World" segment with Tom Hanks as Barry, their roadie. The rock quartet would perform on the show three more times, the last occurring in 2001.

Neil Young

A surprising late bloomer to SNL is Neil Young, who made his debut in 1989 after being impersonated by Dana Carvey a couple of years earlier. The folk singer and part-time Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young member returned for his third time more than a decade later in 2000.

Mariah Carey

One of the most esteemed pop divas of her generation, Mariah Carey, first appeared on SNL as a musical guest in 1990. Her fourth time, in 2008, saw her joined by T-Pain for a performance of "Migrate."

Beck

After his 1993 hit single "Loser" made him a star, Beck debuted on SNL in 1997. This was the first of several appearance for the alt rock hero, the second of which saw him act in a sketch framed as a Behind the Music episode about Fat Albert & the Junkyard Gang.

Maroon 5

Pop rock band Maroon 5 made their first of several appearances in 2004, shortly after making their mainstream breakthrough. Frontman Adam Levine (also known as a judge on NBC's The Voice) has also appeared on the show solo to host in 2013 and join Kanye West in a performance of "Heard 'Em Say" in 2005.

Prince

Unless you count his performance of "Electric Chair" at SNL's 15th Anniversary Special in 1989, Prince was only a musical guest on the show three times. However, after his untimely death in 2016, the show aired a special featuring clips of all his Studio 8H sets, highlights of the recurring "Prince Show" sketches featuring Fred Armisen as the pop star, and anecdotes shared by host Jimmy Fallon.

Natalie Merchant

Natalie Merchant's first two appearances on SNL were as the lead singer of the indie rock group 10,000 Maniacs in the late '80s and early '90s. Her two subsequent gigs as a musical guest occurred in 1995 and 1998 after she had gone solo.

Justin Bieber

Following his breakthrough as a teen pop sensation, Justin Bieber made his SNL debut at 16 years old in a 2010 episode which also saw him participate in a sketch with host Tina Fey. The Canadian artist went on to double as host and musical guest for his second gig in 2013 and also made a few unexpected cameos, such as in a Church Lady revival from 2011 and in 2012 for the 100th SNL Digital Short.

Lizzo

Lizzo made her Studio 8H debut in a big way, performing as the musical guest on an episode hosted by the legendary Eddie Murphy making an epic SNL return in 2019. A couple years later, she returned as both musical guest and host and, while she could not stop laughing during some sketches, she was pretty stone-faced for a bit that demonstrated her talent for simultaneously twerking and playing the flute.

Green Day

Green Day emerged as one of the biggest bands of the '90s but would only perform on the SNL once during that decade. The punk trio would, however, return twice more during the 2000s, first following the success of their Grammy-winning album, American Idiot, in 2005 and again in 2009 to promote 21st Century Breakdown.

Billie Eilish

A non-actor who killed it at as an SNL host for the first time in 2021 is Billie Eilish, who also served as a musical guest for her second time that night. The Grammy and Oscar-winning pop sensation has gone on to participate in sketches in her subsequent appearances as well, such as when she joined Barbie cast member Kate McKinnon for a music video for the Season 49 Christmas show.

James Taylor

James Taylor had the rare opportunity to perform three songs in multiple episodes: when he made his SNL debut in 1976 and both times he appeared in the '90s. He would also play a song during host Michael Palin's monologue in 1979 and once served as a co-host and co-musical guest with Paul Simon in 1980.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z qualifies for this list by his solo appearances as an SNL musical guest alone. However, he has taken the stage at Studio 8H for a few special appearances, such as when he joined wife, Beyoncé, for "Crazy in Love" in 2003 and when he performed his rap on Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" in 2013.

Kanye West

Kanye West's debut SNL performance in October 2005 was preceded by a cameo by Mike Myers, reference their awkward appearance together at a telethon benefitting victims of Hurricane Katrina. He would later be joined by Pusha T to perform "Runaway" for his fourth gig and memorably performed "I Love It" with Lil Pump dressed as water bottles for his seventh appearance in a 2018 episode that would end in controversy when the rapper went on an unexpected political tirade.

Every year around this time, a debate begins over the appropriate to start celebrating the holidays. Do we have to wait for Halloween to pass before we start rewatching the best Christmas movies? Wait until after Thanksgiving to put up the tree? Hold off on Christmas music until December? Everybody seems to have their own rules, but I think most of us can agree that there’s only one individual who can officially kick off the holidays — Mariah Carey — and I am loving the fan response to her trolling us for being ready to deck the halls.

If you’re not listening to Mariah Carey sing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on at least a daily basis during the holiday months, I’m afraid you’re doing it wrong. As soon as there’s the first hint of cooler weather and Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I’ve got my 2024 Christmas movie schedule out to plan my year-end viewing, and my finger is just hovering over the Play button of my Christmas playlist, waiting for Carey to give the signal. I’m not alone, either, as she posted an Instagram video trolling us with those oh-so-familiar opening notes:

The video shows Mariah Carey, presumably on her private jet, settling her brain for a long winter’s nap (even with her sunglasses still on her head), when the captain announces they’re ready to head to the North Pole. The singer then politely shouts to him, “Not yet! Sorry!” before turning back to the camera and saying:

It’s just so hard to wait! Many fans expressed their excitement in the comments, saying they’re ready to kick off the most wonderful time of the year with the return of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” to the regular rotation. However, fans mostly agreed to be patient until the five-time Grammy Award winner says the time has come. They wrote:

This wasn’t the first time Mariah Carey has urged us to practice patience. In 2021 she posted a video to hype us up for Christmas by showing her kids interrupting her bathtime to ask if it was time to play the song and decorate the tree. Her response then was the same as now: “Not yet!”

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” is considered by many to be THE definitive song for the holiday season, and that is evidenced by just how often that song is played on radio stations, grocery stores and every single Christmas event all season. After holding the No. 1 spot on the charts every year since 2019, however, Mariah Carey was dethroned by Brenda Lee in 2023 with “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

Which queen of Christmas will hold the crown at the end of this holiday season? Apparently we’ve still got some time before that race can be run.

Luckily for Sabrina Carpenter fans, the pop singer announced she’ll be having her own Netflix Christmas special with some subtle Mariah Carey shade. So, bring on the holiday feud!

Sabrina Carpenter has truly come a long way since starring as Maya in the Boy Meets World sequel Girl Meets World. As an insider stated, “she’s fallen in love, toured with Taylor Swift, played Coachella,” and keeps cranking out major chart-toppers. The fun isn’t over for her yet as she’ll turn up on your Netflix subscription with her own Christmas special. Was that Sabrina Carpenter sending a little holiday shade at Mariah Carey? I mean, she is the “Queen of Christmas” because of her best-selling hit “All I Want for Christmas is You.” It would be easy to expect Mariah Carey to have her own Christmas special on the streamer since four years ago she had Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special for fans with an Apple TV+ subscription.

Yep, it looks like Sabrina Carpenter is letting us all know that she's the holiday queen to "expect" this year. But at the same time, it doesn’t mean we won't cherish what Mariah Carey has brought to audiences every Christmas since her 1994 best-selling holiday album Merry Christmas. She’s made sure to jam out to her Christmas single at home and even hyped the holiday vibe from her bathtub to remind us to feel happy and carefree during the holidays. I’m sure “All I Want for Christmas is You” will still be playing on holiday radio repeat leading up to Santa’s visit.

As for anyone else we can be “expecting” for Sabrina Carpenter’s Christmas special, the guest list is up in the air for us. According to Deadline, the “Please Please Please” singer will be singing songs off her holiday EP “fruitcake” as well as famous holiday cover songs. There are also going to be musical and comedic guests as well as fun cameos. What’s got me asking questions is that Netflix says we’ll also be getting “unexpected duets” and “surprises.” Who can it be? Imagine if reigning Christmas Queen Mariah Carey was the “unexpected” surprise. How great would that be?

We may know every year that it’s time for the holidays when Mariah Carey starts singing “All I Want for Christmas is You,” but Sabrina Carpenter will be wearing the stylish holiday boots to host her own Christmas special this year. With her and Mariah Carey having a lot in common in their impressive vocal skills and being musicians with acting talent, I’d love to see these two have a fun head-to-head holiday feud this season. The film adaptation of Dark Horse Comics’ Virus is uncompromisingly bad, no matter if you’re familiar with the book or not. But the most entertaining thing to come out of it was the fact that star Jamie Lee Curtis has taken every chance to roast this picture with the most cutting of remarks. It’s truly one of the best cases of entertainers who have trashed their own movies.

Michael Caine - Jaws: The Revenge

This is an example of using class and wit to politely stuff a movie like Jaws: The Revenge into the trash bin of life. Actor Michael Caine’s remarks about never seeing the film, but loving its payday, is something that always hits like the best line at a cocktail party celebrating the movies we love to loathe.

Emily Blunt - Gulliver’s Travels

History almost gave us an Iron Man 2 with Emily Blunt playing the role of Black Widow. And then contractual obligations forced Ms. Blunt to pass, in favor of starring in the Jack Black vehicle Gulliver’s Travels. So yeah, maybe it’s best not to mention this one to this star of A Quiet Place, no matter how much you think she might laugh.

Dennis Quaid - Jaws 3-D

All legendary actors have the gigs that make them, and the ones that they took so early in their career that they’d rather not think about them. Dennis Quaid’s role in Jaws 3-D more than likely falls into the latter bucket, as it’s one of the two Jaws sequels that failed to make the cut with even the franchise’s most devoted fans.

Viola Davis - The Help

Academy Award winner Viola Davis scored a nomination for her role in Tate Taylor’s film adaptation of The Help. Despite her performance’s excellence, Davis still maintains her opinion of regretting having taken part in the movie’s production, and the resulting product. 

Bill Murray - Garfield

With his infamous Garfield casting story seeing the comedy legend mistake the movie’s writer for one of the Coen Bros, you can kind of see why he’d use his Zombieland cameo in 2009 to poke fun at the film being his only life’s regret.

Mariah Carey - Glitter

Glitter wasn’t enough of a disaster to kill Mariah Carey’s acting career, and to her credit, she went on to deliver some amazing performances in films like Lee Daniels’ Precious. But whoo-boy, does this musical drama still sting to think about from time to time?

While there’s an interesting selection of beloved films Roger Ebert absolutely hated, North is one of the flops that the legendary film critic rightfully roasted. Though it definitely wasn’t Elijah Wood’s fault, it’s probably best if you don’t approach him about this one without some sort of care.

As a legendary turkey in the world of infamously bad movies, even Gigli’s director Martin Brest has pointed thoughts about that epic fail. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s colossal dud of a rom-com has more than earned its place on the bad side of history, and one could bet that even its mere mention would inspire the most withering side eye from J.Lo herself. 

George Clooney - Batman & Robin

If there’s a constant in George Clooney’s career as an entertainer, it’s his regret over Batman and Robin. Stepping in after Val Kilmer bolted on Joel Schumacher’s second Gotham-based tentpole, you can bet the ER heartthrob wishes he could use a time machine to go back and prevent this experience from ever happening.

And mixed in with the lot was his role as the antagonist in Tim Allen’s remake of The Shaggy Dog. Downey would probably talk about the movie if asked, but one has to wonder what he’d say? 

Emma Watson - The Circle

For someone like Emma Watson, an actor who chooses their projects with a level of mindfulness and message in mind, The Circle must have seemed like a good choice. But the eventual public reaction to the film may have caused the Harry Potter vet to think twice even before approaching source material with names as storied as author Dave Eggers and director James Ponsoldt attached. 

Eddie Murphy - The Adventures of Pluto Nash

The Adventures of Pluto Naash is a habitual punching bag when folks choose to talk about the most infamous disasters in movie history. And thanks to that distinction, even the very open Eddie Murphy wouldn’t be mistaken for keeping this sci-fi/comedy flameout away from the conversation.

One has to wonder how awkward some of those Planet Hollywood openings were, thanks to this awkward piece of history existing.

Lily Collins - Rules Don’t Apply

Actor Lily Collins is a talent that has the old Hollywood look down to a tee and isn’t afraid to show it. That confidence is probably what got her cast in Warren Beatty’s misguided rom-com Rules Don’t Apply, and to be fair, she and co-star Alden Ehrenreich are two of the only bright spots in this mostly forgettable throwback. 

Eddie Redmayne - Jupiter Ascending

If anyone is ready to admit Eddie Redmayne’s Jupiter Ascending performance is bad, it’s the man himself. While some might be inclined to give him more credit for his work in the Wachowski’s far-flung space opera, Redmayne’s criticisms of his role do come with some important caveats. 

Jennifer Hudson - Sandy Wexler

Adam Sandler is a talent who’s able to draw a wide range of actors into his orbit, and his Netflix movie Sandy Wexler was no exception. Playing a talent agent who knows a good client when he sees one, Jennifer Hudson is one of the people he rightfully tries to fast-track to fame. By no means does that proper judgment mean that this movie is something she, or most viewers, would even remember.

Hugh Jackman - Pan

Some flops crash and burn with very little trace of the wreckage. Others, like the Hugh Jackman starring Peter Pan adaptation Pan, collapse under ill-fated ambitions that don’t end up adding up in the end. But at least we got Jackman’s Captain Hook singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” in a totally bonkers musical number.

Pedro Pascal - Wonder Woman 1984

Pedro Pascal is almost universally recognized as one of, if not the best part of Wonder Woman 1984. That still feels like a far cry from something The Mandalorian star would even want to discuss, as its infamy is something that still echoes pretty strongly so close to its initial execution.

Dame Judi Dench - Cats

You can always count on an acting talent as iconic as Dame Judi Dench to tell it like it is. And whether it was reacting to her Razzie award nomination or the final look of her character in 2019’s Cats, she certainly hasn’t left any of her thoughts to the imagination.

You don’t get to be an actor as legendary as Ben Kingsley without logging some seriously wild projects like A Sound of Thunder on your resume. This 2005 sci-fi disaster is so ill-regarded that its Game Boy video game adaptation is seen as a more favorable experience. That’s both terribly unique and just plain old terrible. 

Brendan Fraser - Monkeybone

Brendan Fraser is a lovable actor who knows how, and when, to get goofy. It’s just a shame that a project like Monkeybone never understood how to use those skills to its advantage, saddling The Mummy star with a movie that he more than likely hasn’t thought about for some time. 

Scarlett Johansson - Ghost In The Shell

There are some who might defend the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson. Considering how much the movie has been rejected by even the source anime’s fans, and the kerfluffle that came from her casting as Major Mira Killian being seen as a bit of whitewashing, this project is probably one that the Marvel veteran would reasonably remain silent on.

Keanu Reeves - 47 Ronin

It’s not Keanu Reeves’ fault that 47 Ronin was a stinker for the ages. Although if one were to mention the movie to him in passing, he’d probably just smile and laugh, charmingly admitting defeat in that particular case of cinematic disaster. 

Will Smith - Gemini Man

What’s worse than a movie failing with one Will Smith in the starring role? Apparently, a technologically advanced picture like Gemini Man, which saw Smith playing against a CGI de-aged younger version of himself. Finally, a movie that rivals Wild Wild West for infamy on Mr. Smith’s resume.

Jack Nicholson - How Do You Know?

Jack Nicholson has been comfortably retired ever since making 2010’s How Do You Know? One has to wonder if he’d be equally as comfortable if he were to be prompted to remember the experience and the fallout that came from its release into theaters.

Maybe they're not as shy about discussing these films as we'd think, and you can get a good story out of the deal. In any case, if there was a class of losers that the best and brightest of Hollywood wished they could forget, this is more than a formidable crop of titles that would fit that bill for good reason.

Musical Guests have been a part of Saturday Night Live since the very beginning and there have been many memorable music moments on the show. Some are infamous, some are funny, and some are just amazing performances by legendary artists. Here is our list of 32 of the most memorable, from the great to the not-so-great. 

Sinead O'Connor (1992)

Probably the most infamous moment in SNL music history is Sinead O’Connor’s appearance in 1992. For the Irish rabble-rouser's second song, she performed an acapella version of Bob Marley’s “War” and at the end, pulled out a photo of Pope John Paul II and tore it to shreds while saying, “Fight the real enemy.” To say the moment was explosive doesn’t even begin to explain the reaction. The audience sat in stunned silence as the show rushed to commercial break. The media firestorm that followed lasted for weeks and completely curtailed O’Connor’s career, though it would recover somewhat. O’Connor’s goal was to expose abuses by the Catholic Church and in many ways, her protest was redeemed years later when more and more abuses came to light. 

Taylor Swift (2021)

In a surprise move, when Taylor Swift performed on SNL in 2021, she chose to do the full ten-minute rendition of “All Too Well” from Red (Taylor’s Version). It’s not at all what you would expect from a TV appearance by a pop star, but Swift (a member of the musical guest five-timers club)  is a master at doing the unpredictable. It’s an incredible performance that has Swift holding millions of the TV audience in her hand for the whole 10 minutes. 

Elvis Costello (1977)

Another of the most infamous moments came when Elvis Costello and the Attractions played SNL in 1977. Ever the iconoclast, Costello was pressured by his record company to play his latest single “Less Than Zero” but famous just seconds into the performance, he stopped the band and they started up his song “Radio, Radio.” It was a move that got him banned from the show but he turned up 14 years later with the Beastie Boys and mocked the original appearance. 

Kanye West (2013)

2013 found Kanye West perhaps at his creative peak and that is on full display in his intense, incredible performance of “Black Skinhead” on SNL. It’s as powerful a performance as any artist has ever done in the show's long history. 

Simon and Garfunkel (1975)

Paul Simon has been a stalwart on SNL since the show’s first season. He’s hosted numerous times and has been the musical guest more times than anyone else, 15 at last count. His performance in 1975 was notable because, for the first time since their breakup in 1970, Simon played live with Art Garfunkel. 

The Replacements (1986)

Minneapolis post-punk legends The Replacements were notorious for their rowdy behavior on and off stage and their appearance on SNL was no exception. After spending most of the show drinking backing stage, they came out for their last number and almost got into a fistfight with each other. That kind of thing happened at their shows a lot, but when it’s on national television, it takes it to a new level. 

Neil Young (1989)

Sometimes people forget that the 1980s was a lean decade for rock legend Neil Young. He didn’t have many hits and felt disillusioned with the whole industry, as he made clear in some of his songs from the era. In 1989, however, Young was reborn and recaptured what had made him great with a sizzling performance of “Rockin’ In The Free World” on Saturday Night Live. It’s a performance that would reignite his whole career. 

Miley Cyrus (2020)

During the Covid lockdown, SNL struggled to adjust and produced a number of “at home” shows with mixed success. One of the true highlights of those shows was Miley Cyrus performing an incredible version of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” It was a sentiment everyone felt at the time as millions of people felt the isolation of the lockdown and Cyrus’ passionate performance was one that will not soon be forgotten. 

Funky 4 + 1 (1981)

In 1981 hip-hop was still years away from making the global impact it would eventually usher in. Rap, even in New York City where it was born, was still far from mainstream. Blondie singer Debbie Harry was an early acolyte of the music and when she hosted the show in 1981, she insisted that an early rap crew, Funky 4 + 1, play the show. It was quite literally the first time many in America first heard the genre.

Fear (1981)

By far the most chaotic musical guest in the show’s history was when the DC Punk band Fear played on Halloween night, 1981. John Belushi was an early fan of the band and got them the gig and he also made sure some of their fans from Washington DC came up for the show. Absolute punk madness occurred when the band took the stage with fans moshing and straight-up fighting with local NYC punks and a few minutes into the performance the show cut and went to commercial. 

Prince (1981)

By the time Prince first played SNL in 1981, he was already on his way to superstardom. It was his performance of “Partyup” on the show, however, when most of America experienced his jaw-dropping live show for the first time. It’s a scintillating performance, as only Prince could do. 

The Rolling Stones (1978)

The Rolling Stones were having a huge career revival in 1978 as they promoted their seminal Some Girls album. That included taking over Saturday Night Live for three songs in October. They played “Beast Of Burden,” “Respectable,” and “Shattered” on the show and the most infamous moment came during “Respectable” when Mick Jagger leaned over to Ron Wood and licked his face. The look on Wood’s face when he realizes what is happening is absolutely priceless. 

Rage Against The Machine (1996)

Political protests are rare, though not unheard of, on SNL. In 1996, when the show booked Rage Against The Machine on the show with host Steve Forbes, they should’ve expected something. Just before the band hit the stage for “Bulls on Parade” a crew member noticed an American flag hung upside down on the band’s amps. He took the flag down before the band went live, but it was still enough to reportedly get them banned from the show and they did play their planned second song of the night. 

Paul McCartney With Nirvana  (2012)

If there is anyone who could get the members of Nirvana to reunite, it’s rock and roll royalty, Paul McCartney. The former Beatle convinced Dave Groehl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear to write and record the song “Cut Me Some Slack,” their first together since the death of Kurt Cobain. They performed it on SNL in 2012. 

Radiohead (2000)

Radiohead was on top of the world in 2000 and when they performed “The National Anthem” from their album Kid A on the show, it completely brought the house down. Joined by a horn section, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and the rest of the band completely owned the moment and it will forever be one of the best performances in the show’s history. 

Billy Preston (1975)

The late Billy Preston has two tidbits of music history that only he will ever be associated with. First, he’s the only guest musician to play on both a Rolling Stones album and a Beatles album. Second, he was the first musical guest to ever play on SNL, performing “Nothing from Nothing” on the show's debut episode in 1975. 

Mariah Carey (1990)

The first time America was exposed to Mariah Carey was in the summer of 1990 when she performed “America The Beautiful” at the NBA Finals. The first time we all saw her perform one of her own songs was on SNL later that fall. The rest, as they say, is history. 

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (1994)

Tom Petty played Saturday Night Live a lot, but his most memorable appearance came in 1994 when he was joined by Dave Grohl on drums. It was the first time Grohl played publicly after the death of Kurt Cobain and the first time Petty had played without Stan Lynch, his longtime drummer whom he’d just fired. 

Lizzo (2019)

This one isn’t one here for anything groundbreaking and certainly not for any notorious reasons, it’s just an all-time banger of a performance by Lizzo in the show in 2019. Lizzo was in the process of achieving superstar status on the strength of her third album, Cuz I Love You, and this appearance cemented it. 

Nirvana (1992)

In the fall of 1991 Nirvana literally broke music. The grunge sound they pioneered with other bands from the Northwest changed everything about rock music and in January of 1992 the band appeared on SNL and played raucous versions of their hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and a deep cut from Nevermind, “Territorial Pissings” which ended with the band destroying their instruments on stage. 

Frank Zappa (1976)

In 1978 Frank Zappa, who famously later showed up on Miami Vice also on NBC, hosted SNL in a disastrous appearance that got him banned from the show. Two years earlier, however, he and his band had a triumphant appearance on the show, playing their song “I Am The Slime” with the show’s announcer Don Pardo doing an amazing voice-over during the scorching performance. 

Joe Cocker (1976)

The early days of SNL were great partly because they were so unpredictable. Take, for example, Joe Cocker’s appearance in 1976 when he was joined on stage by SNL cast member John Belushi doing a spot-on and hilarious impression of the quirky singer. It’s the kind of stuff that made the show so legendary in the early days. 

Ashlee Simpson (2004)

Certainly one of the most notorious musical moments on the show came when Ashlee Simpson was caught lip-syncing during her first (and only) appearance as a guest. The singer lost her voice the morning of the show and the band had done even a rehearsal with a backing track, Still, her label convinced her to do the show with the backing track, and predictably things went sideways, It took years for the singer to overcome the debacle, and that really wasn’t fair. Plenty of singers lip-sync and have for years.  

Sun Ra (1978)

Free jazz musician Sun Ra and his Arkestra are absolute legends among many jazz musicians. They are not, however, easy to digest, and watching them play some of the freakiest music ever played on American television is really something else. It’s bizarre and wonderful and wild. 

Paul Simon (1976)

Back in the early days, there were no rules for the show, and in 1976, during his monologue, Paul Simon legendarily performed his song “Still Crazy After All These Years” in a turkey suit. Though it’s not technically a performance by a music guest (Simon was the host), there’s no way to leave it off this list.  

Patti Smith (1975) 

Quite possibly the first time America was exposed to what was happening in the East Village of New York came with Patti Smith’s performance in 1975, playing her song “Gloria.” It’s a jaw-dropping performance by the first lady of punk rock who brought the underground CBGB’s sound to the rest of the country. 

Devo (1978)

No one had ever seen anything like Devo in 1978. The art rockers were busy playing small clubs and theaters when they were booked to play SNL and their performance of The Stones’ “Satisfaction” completely changed the trajectory of their career. Mark Mothersbaugh has become one of the most interesting film composers of the 21st Century and his theatrical nature was on full display almost five decades ago. 

David Bowie (1979)

Rock god David Bowie first played SNL in 1979 and proved why he was the reigning king of glam rock with his performances of “The Man Who Sold The World” and “Boys Keep Swinging.” It’s everything anyone could ever want from Bowie. 

Adele (2008) snl

Here’s a good trivia question, how is former Vice Presidental candidate Sarah Palin partly responsible for Adele’s biggest break in America? Well, Palin was announced as a special guest on SNL in October of 2008 ahead of the election that year and viewers turned out in droves to see it. Adele, who was somewhat unknown in the U.S. at that point just happened to be the musical guest. Of course, she absolutely killed it in her appearance and the exposure helped launch her career to the next level.

Pearl Jam (1992)

Since their very beginning, Pearl Jam has been known for their powerhouse live shows. The first time most of America got to see that was when they appeared on SNL in early 1992 just as “Jeremy” was breaking as the Seattle band’s first major hit. It’s raw and commanding, and simply put, incredible. 

David Byrne (2020)

David Byrne has been known for his theatrical performances all the way back to his early years in Talking Heads and his 2000 performance on SNL could be his peak. It features the musicians that would make his Broadway show, American Utopia, a hit and it’s an amazing performance.  

Paul Simon And George Harrison (1976)

If you ever needed proof that Saturday Night Live was the coolest thing to hit TV, maybe ever, in those early days, just look at how they could book a Beatle and Paul Simon to perform “Here Comes The Sun” and “Homeward Bound” together. That is no other show in TV history that could have pulled that off, much like many of the unforgettable performances on this list. 

Music is a big part of the holiday season and for the last several years, that’s only meant one song. Mariah Carey’s "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has become the number one song in the nation every year since 2019, and there was no reason to believe that 2023 would be any different. And yet, Carey has been dethroned. It would be one thing if there was a brand new music hit that people have fallen for, but the number one song right now is another classic, Branda Lee’s “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.”

So how exactly did a song from 1958 become the biggest song in the country for the very first time after more than six decades, and just what does the patron saint of Christmas music, Mariah Carey, think of it all?

The Story Behind “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” 

When Brenda Lee was 13 years old she recorded “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree" and initially it wasn’t a major hit. By 1960 Lee was an established star, leading to the song being re-released and hitting number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, the best position it would hold for decades.

Today the song is one of those classics that you can expect to hear in every department store while Christmas shopping or in the background playlist of every holiday party you attend. Decades later it’s probably a lot of people’s favorite Christmas song.

 The Story Behind “All I Want For Christmas Is You” 

In an interesting coincidence, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” had a similar path to number one status as Brenda Lee. The song was released in 1994, written by Carey and Walter Afanasieff, who claimed Carey had minimized his contributions to the song. and while it was always fairly popular, it didn’t become the modern Christmas song for decades. It didn’t enter the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 until 2017.

Since 2019, however, it has been the country's number-one song every year. The song's popularity has made Carey the target of lawsuits over who is responsible for it.  Other artists have covered it numerous times, just like every other Christmas classic you know. One of them was featured in the movie Love Actually, which includes a plot about a battle over the Christmas number one song. Mariah Carey has become a symbol of the season alongside musical icons like Bing Crosby. They even turned "All I Want For Christmas Is You" into a movie, just like Crosby's White Christmas. But this year something changed.

How “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree" Hit Number One, And How Mariah Carey Responded 

It turns out that there’s been something of a holiday battle going on between Mariah Carey and Brenda Lee that you may not have noticed. Since 2019, every year that “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has hit number one, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has peaked at number two. This year, according to NPR, Brenda Lee’s record label made a concerted effort to make the song number one, even producing a brand new music video with the now 79-year-old Lee, who also started social media accounts on Twitter and TikTok.

It worked, Brenda Lee’s song, which was already a classic, officially topped the charts for the first time. And it turns out nobody is happier than Mariah Carey herself. Lee’s new Twitter account posted a picture of the flowers that the old champ sent the new champ, with a lovely note. 

Whichever your favorite Christmas song is, it’s heartwarming to see such love between these two stars. If the holiday season is about celebrating togetherness, these two are both number one.

One of Davis’ best gigs, besides the original Ocean’s 11, came out of The Cannonball Run, which reunited him with fellow pally Martin for two films of vehicular madness.

Andre Benjamin - Four Brothers

While Four Brothers isn’t an exact, on-brand remake of the western The Sons of Katie Elder, it’s pretty close. The similarities between the two Paramount movies are even eerier when you think about how Dean Martin’s acting career was enriched by the 1965 western, and Andre “3000” Benjamin saw the same sort of fortune come from his part in the 2005 action-drama.

People like Mariah Carey and Charlize Theron “deglamming” for performances in powerful dramas only helped amplify their performances. In Theron’s case, that led to her first Academy Award nomination in Monster. Alice Cooper - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Writer/director Lars Von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark was only singer Bjòrk’s second motion picture. You’d never know it, as this beautiful but tragic mashup of drama and music saw the Icelandic singer-songwriter land a heartbreaking blow with her character Selma. Trust us, you need the right headspace, and a lot of tissues, to take on this experience.

Common - Run All Night

While Common eventually got to hunt down Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin in John Wick: Chapter 2, he practiced his killer skills with another action vet: Liam Neeson. Run All Night pitted the rapping/acting talent against Mr. Neeson, and the war waged between the two men is something truly impressive to behold. 

Britney Spears - Crossroads

Not a girl, not yet a woman, and because of Britney Spears’ intense “method acting” in Crossroads, there was one more thing she wasn’t at the time: an actor. Though she’d eventually play a couple other roles here and there, preparing to star in this teenage drama road trip was enough to make Spears question how much she really wanted to act. 

Prince - Purple Rain

The world knows the many sides of Prince through his mythic career as a guitar god and musical boundary pusher. Purple Rain made that image all the stronger, as the man is basically playing himself, with some dramatic and comedic embellishment. The result is a movie that was a white hot success, and a powerful calling card in Prince's future endeavors on both sides of this fence.

While it’s not for everyone, actor/musician crossovers are always interesting to keep an eye out for. Both commanding successes and curious one-off scenarios are equally intriguing, as one never knows where the next success story will come from. As one of the most famous contestants to win American Idol, Kelly Clarkson has worked with some of the biggest musicians in the world while becoming one of the most beloved stars herself. She has an impressive list of collaborators that she's written with, performed with or worked alongside on The Voice. Interestingly, at one point, Clarkson was essentially in a position to team up with none other than Mariah Carey. However, because she did something "stupid," the singer/TV host blew her chance to work with the acclaimed songstress.

Mariah Carey served on The Voice as the key Advisor for the four teams present on Season 15 in 2018. As anyone would, Kelly Clarkson freaked out over her presence. While appearing on The Tonight Show, the “Breakaway” singer recalled a specific conversation she had with Carey and revealed she ended up being confused by a sentiment the "Emotions" performer shared. Clarkson broke down the story, and it sounds painfully awkward (and relatable):

Apparently, she was so fixed on her personal creative process that she didn't even realize Mariah Carey was subtly extending an invitation to work together. I honestly don’t blame the media personality for acting the way she did, because it’s Mariah Carey. Many of us have likely had those moments in which we blurted out something due to nervousness or just a simple misunderstanding. Honestly, it’s also kind of comforting to know that even a celebrity of her caliber still gets starstruck. Of course, now that the two are a few years removed from that moment, I'd like them to reconnect and make something happen. A collaboration between the two stars could be absolutely amazing!

Kelly Clarkson has been a fan of the Christmas icon for years. While on The Tonight Show, she said that “Vision of Love” was the first song she ever did for a talent show or audition when she was little. She was a very brave kid to take on such a track at such a young age. Then again, that does just add further credit to the notion that Clarkson is a fearless person and has major love for her fellow singer. She went on to further clarify what she was trying to say and also sent a message to the "Without You" singer:

A collaboration between the two may not be in the cards right now, but it could happen down the road. In the meantime, fans could, at the very least, see the "Since U Been Gone" performer pay homage to her idol. With The Kelly Clarkson Show returning, that means much more “Kellyoke” (which was being performed live) on the way, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the host chose yet another Mariah Carey track to cover. With the holiday season approaching, it would be the perfect time for Clarkson to belt out her rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You," which inspired a movie. But of course, let's cross our fingers that the two manage to link up again and craft a new song -- and that Clarkson doesn't have any further awkward encounters with any fellow A-listers.

Tickets are now on sale for Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas One and All! tour, which is set to kick off on November 15 in California and end in New York on December 17. And following the end of the WGA writers’ strike, The Kelly Clarkson Show is set to drop its long-awaited Season 5 premiere this Monday, October 16 as part of the 2023 TV schedule.

The music world lost a legend today, as Tony Bennett, whose remarkable eight-decade career resulted in more than 70 albums, 20 Grammy Awards and two Primetime Emmys, died July 21 at the age of 96. With a career as storied as his, it goes without saying that he crossed paths with numerous fellow musicians and celebrities in his lifetime, and many of them, including Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Joel, and Elton John are joining fans in paying tribute to the iconic singer for his contributions to the world.

Those remembering the “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” crooner spanned multiple sectors, from entertainment icons to former presidents and even Muppets. Retired talk show host Ellen DeGeneres sent love to Tony Bennett’s family, saying on Threads: 

Billy Joel — a musical legend in his own right, who appeared on Tony Bennett’s Duets: An American Classic — wrote multiple tweets in honor of the singer, noting how his unique voice transitioned from jazz to pop and praising him for championing songwriters. He also remembered him as “one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever known,” tweeting: 

Sir Elton John, who also appeared on Tony Bennett’s first Duets album, shared a memory of the two of them, and he too sent condolences to Bennett's family, as he called the artist “irreplaceable”:  

Barack Obama tweeted that he was honored to have had Tony Bennett perform at his inauguration, and Bill Clinton released a statement on his philanthropy, saying he "lived his remarkable life with perfect pitch." 

Rolling Stones icon Keith Richards added his own tribute, posting a photo with the singer from 2015:

There’s no questioning Tony Bennett’s impact on the music world, as Mariah Carey — his duet partner on "When Do the Bells Ring for Me" — called him one of the most “legendary singers of the past century”: 

With "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" being possibly Tony Bennett's most famous tune, it was to be expected that the people of California were also feeling the loss. The San Francisco Giants baseball team honored the man they called a "true legend," tweeting:

San Francisco may be favor that popular song, but that wasn't the one that David Letterman referenced in his tribute. He opted to share a different tune in remembrance of the musician, and one appropriate for the day. The late-night legend tweeted: 

Tony Bennett, born Anthony Dominick Benedetto, passed away July 21 at his home in New York following a seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Our condolences go out to his friends, family and all who have been affected by his death. 

She was simply the best. Tina Turner, an iconic singer and actress, has died at the age of 83, and as the tributes roll in, there’s reminder after reminder about how beloved she was. Following reports that the Queen of Rock n’ Roll passed away on Wednesday after a “long illness” in her home in Switzerland, celebrity reactions are rolling on a river of tears and gratitude for her. 

Among the big names paying tribute to Tina Turner on the day of her death is Halle Berry. The actress posted this on Instagram:  

The image sees Halle Berry being embraced by Turner alongside Oprah Winfrey and Alicia Keys at Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball when she recalled meeting her. The event that took place in 2006 was an event honoring twenty-five African Americans in the entertainment, civil rights and arts sectors. As Berry recalled, the late singer “rearranged” the actress with her presence on that day. Another celebrity also wrote about Turner is Mariah Carey with these words: 

Tina Turner had an impressive career in music that inspired the likes of Carey. The singer had numerous big hits across four decades and 12 Grammy awards. Some of her hits include “Private Dancer,” “The Best” and even the James Bond song “GoldenEye” from the 1995 movie starring Pierce Brosnan. Jennifer Hudson wrote this: 

Hudson thanked Turner for her incredible legacy she's left for the world. Tina Turner was born in 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee, and grew up singing in her church choir before breaking into the music industry in the ‘60s. Nicki Minaj also had this to say about the Queen of Rock n’ Roll: 

Turner was a mainstay in the music industry, rolling with the tides between getting her start as a duo with Ike Turner in her early years before going solo in the ‘70s and reinventing herself. The 1993 Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It portrayed the singer’s life, with Angela Bassett playing her. Amidst the passing of Turner, former President Barack Obama also penned the below tribute on social media: 

Tina Turner is survived by her husband and her children. Throughout her lifetime, Turner had two biological sons and adopted two children, one of whom, Raymond Craig Hill, died by a reported suicide back in 2018. Turner died at her home near Zurich, Switzerland. Here’s one more big-name tribute, with Elton John posting this: 

Can you imagine how many incredible artists Tina Turner knew? As family, friends and fans mourn her loss, she has such an incredible life to look back on. Among the many exciting 2023 new movie releases hitting theaters this week is an impressive biopic about a Black musician you’ve probably never heard of. Chevalier tells the widely untold story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who was a French Creole conductor of orchestras in Marie Antoinette’s court ahead of getting involved in the French Revolution. When Kelvin Harrison Jr. portrayed the historical figure in Chevalier, he told CinemaBlend about why he was inspired by more contemporary artists like Mariah Carey and Prince. 

While making Chevalier, Harrison Jr. studied violin for seven hours a day to become the virtuoso and composer. There was only few pieces of Joseph Bologne’s original works left following much of it being destroyed in Napoleonic times. During our interview (also above), the actor shared what he was able to gather from his portrayal with the music he did get to hear. In his words: 

Obviously Kelvin Harrison Jr. could not meet Joseph Bologne or even access many records at all of the man, but listening to his music gave him a lot to work with regarding imagining how he might have been like. The actor realized that the composer was a “show off,” and much like “All I Want For Christmas” singer Mariah Carey does with her discography, he didn’t shy away from providing impressive music moments in his work. Harrison also told us this: 

While one would think the Kelvin Harrison Jr. movie would have the actor reaching for other classical composers of the era, he instead chose modern Black artists like Prince, Kodak Black, Lil Wayne and Drake to help him contextualize the virtuoso for himself and get in the mindset of the composer. The actor is fully aware of how surprising that is given Chevalier's time period, but it sounds like it really allowed him to embody the historical figure in his own way. 

Joseph Bologne was the illegitimate son of a Senegalese servant and French plantation owner who found rank in the French nobility. In the movie, he aspires to compose and feature an original opera of his own, where he meets Samara Weaving’s Marie-Joséphine de Comarieu de Montalembert. They secretly fall in love despite it being against the law for them to do so.

It’s once again Christmas Season, which means it’s once again time for Mariah Carey to shine. The popular singer’s eternal pop culture phenomenon “All I Want For Christmas Is You” races up the charts everytime December rolls around. It’s currently sitting at number 1 again on the Hot 100 charts and with good reason. It’s a festive feel-good anthem, but unfortunately, those good vibes don’t warmly extend to those involved in creating the song.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” was co-written by Mariah Carey and veteran songwriter Walter Afanasieff but what exactly co-written means depends entirely on who you talk to. Carey has given interviews over the years in which she’s talked about putting the song together and figuring out the melody. Typically the story involves her fiddling around with a keyboard, but if you ask Afanasieff, that’s a “tall tale.”

The producer and songwriter appeared on the Hot Takes & Deep Dives podcast, and he was extremely dismissive of Carey’s claims of having figured it out on the piano. In fact, he said her story doesn’t hold up because she “doesn’t play anything.” Here’s a portion of what was basically a good five minutes of him calling BS…

Now, in the interest of fairness, there are a few things in Mariah Carey’s favor here too. Both she and Afanasieff agree she wrote basically all the lyrics and contributed to the melody, which, any way you look at it, is a significant contribution to the song. She’s also credited Afansieff in interviews and when she told the story to Amazon Music back in 2019, she very directly said she’s not very capable on the piano.

Still, Afanasieff clearly feels she minimizes his role in “All I Want For Christmas Is You”’s creation, and he claims the songwriting credits explain that better than he could. 

It should also be noted here that there's a whole lot more to this backstory than just some disagreements over this song. Carey and Afanasieff worked together extensively during the early part of Carey's career, co-writing dozens of songs together. At the time, she was married to music mogul Tommy Mottola, who was 21 years her senior. The marriage went south by the late '90s amidst a stream of accusations, and Afanasieff continued working with Mottola, while Carey moved on to new producers. The co-writers didn't speak for over twenty years, which is likely how their stories have drifted so far apart.

Once you remove all the discarded wrapping paper and get all the shiny presents (and lawsuits) out of the way, both Carey and Afanasieff still admit the other played a role in shaping where the song ended up, and in the spirit of Christmas, that’s what matters. 99.9 percent of all musicals struggle their entire lives and never create a song as listened to and widely beloved as “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Everyone involved should be enormously proud of themselves for creating something that lasts and brings happiness to so many people, no matter if one wrote 51% and the other 49%.

Nick Cannon has been in the media a lot over the past couple of years for the number of children he’s had with multiple women. The TV and radio personality has been open about his polyamorous lifestyle, which he apparently adopted following his divorce from Mariah Carey. As a new member of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta in Season 11, Jessica White spoke about her relationship with Nick Cannon, telling castmate Safaree Samuels in an episode that aired in July that she had just gotten out of an eight-year relationship in which "I wasn’t allowed to have other partners but he was."

LaNisha Cole Was First Linked To Nick Cannon In 2017, And They Share A Daughter 

Former The Price Is Right model LaNisha Cole reportedly started seeing Cannon in 2017, and has been dating him off and on since then. On September 14, 2022, she gave birth to Cannon’s ninth child — daughter Onyx Ice — just nine days before Brittany Bell had his 10th. Cole said in the months following the little girl's birth that her baby has received death threats from online trolls who don’t agree with Cannon’s lifestyle. 

Abby De La Rosa And Nick Cannon Share Three Children  

Abby De La Rosa said she “reconnected” with the former talk show host in 2020, before giving birth to twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir — Nick Cannon’s fifth and sixth, for those keeping score — in June 2021. Alyssa Scott Gives Birth To Nick Cannon's 12th Child, A Year After Their Son's Death

Model Alyssa Scott gave birth to Nick Cannon’s seventh child, Zen, in June 2021, about a week after Abby De La Rosa’s twins were born. Zen tragically passed away in December at just 5 months old from a brain tumor. In November 2022, the couple confirmed that Scott was pregnant with the couple’s second child, and when Baby Cannon No. 12 — Halo Marie Cannon — was born on December 14, 2022, the mom made sure to include her late son in the celebrations.

Bre Tiesi Gave Birth To Nick Cannon’s Eighth Child In 2022 

Bre Tiesi has said she’s known Cannon for 10 years, dating off and on. Following her divorce from former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel, they were on again, and the Selling Sunset star gave birth to Cannon’s eighth child, Legendary Love, in June 2022. They’d learned about her pregnancy amidst baby Zen’s brain cancer, and the actor explained on his short-lived talk show how they made the emotional decision to hold off on going public with the pregnancy news. The host also used his talk show to talk out his complex feelings about grieving one child while being excited to welcome another.

It’s certainly no small task keeping up with The Masked Singer host’s love life, but the mothers of his children don’t seem to be worried about his ability to handle it. Tiesi has spoken about how she never has to worry about whether or not Cannon will show up for important events, and that somehow he’s able to juggle that schedule. He definitely takes pride in how involved he is with his children every day but admits to feeling guilt about not being able to spend more time with them.

Will there be more babies to come after the 12 who have been born to Nick Cannon? The actor admits he's got his hands full with his current brood, but admits that only "God decides when we're done." So I guess only time will tell.

Mariah Carey is a singing icon, but perhaps more notably for some, she is a Christmas icon. Many households every year make “All I Want for Christmas Is You” a household staple, and from the looks of the new video, it sounds like that’s probably true in the Carey house as well. In fact, the diva and hitmaker shared a new video from the tub of getting egged on to start readying the house for Christmas even before the Halloween decorations are down. 

While I’m not sure of the logic behind  Carey’s so-called “kids” in this promo barging in on her in the bathroom in order to bug her to start playing Christmas music, it sure makes for a memorable pre-holiday moment. Though I’m not sure the 11-year-olds Mariah Carey shares with ex Nick Cannon would bust in on her in real life, the sentiment is one I can appreciate. It’s almost never too early to prep for Christmas time. I would probably get my tree out now if I thought it was socially acceptable. (I don’t.) Mariah Carey hears the questions of her children, who are hoping to play “All I want” or “at least decorate the tree” already. For her, it’s not quite time yet, but it "almost" is. 

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" has been a holiday staple for a few years now, but in 2021, it actually swung to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 nearly 25 years after its release. So the hype for the track is real. (In a less spirited take on the song, Carey's also facing a lawsuit over the holiday hit this year.)  

While Carey didn't get in the tub in the original music video for the song, the whole bathtub schtick is very on-brand for the singer.

A Quick History Of Mariah Carey In The Bathtub

Mariah Carey infamously shot an episode of Cribs back in 2002 that has remained a memorable moment in pop culture history. During the episode, after showing off all her “favorite” rooms, the singer climbed into her bathtub in her negligee. She’s been kind of synonymous with living the tub life in the decades since.

There’s the music video for “Shake it Off” in which she appears in a tub, there’s also a very memorable appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in which he climbs into a tub for a bit with the pop singer. Yes, by 2016 Mariah Carey was so well-known for her love of baths that Kimmel filled up a tub for her and they both hopped in, fully clothed of course, for the memorable interview. 

As for her bathroom practice, in 2018 the singer admitted she’s actually fond of taking the occasional milk bath, noting she’ll also pull out mineral water or other items to bathe in, though she told The Guardian, “I don’t want to give away all my secrets.” Earlier in 2022, the singer also admitted to People she still uses the famous bathtub she showed off on Cribs. There are certainly worse things a person can be known for than enjoying a nice bath.

Nick Cannon has attracted a lot of attention over the past couple of years regarding the number of rugrats he's bringing into the world — and the number of women who are mothering his children. As that number continues to climb in 2022, we can’t say he didn’t warn us! After welcoming three children in 2021, the actor said earlier this summer that you’d be “safe to bet” that the stork would deliver another trio this calendar year. With the reveal this week that Brittany Bell is pregnant with his 10th child, Cannon’s prediction appears to be right on track. 

Bre Tiesi shared her birth story after she and Nick Cannon welcomed Legendary Love — her first child and Cannon’s eighth — in June. Abby De La Rosa, who gave birth to Cannon’s twins Zion and Zillion in June 2021, is also pregnant again, and it’s widely believed that the Drumline star is the father. If that’s true, Brittany Bell’s bundle of joy will make three babies for the former talk show host this year, and 10 overall.

In 2021, along with his twins with Abby De La Rosa, Nick Cannon welcomed baby Zen with model Alyssa Scott. Zen was diagnosed with brain cancer, tragically passing away in December at just 5 months old. Before Zen’s death, Cannon had talked about going celibate, but losing his son put him into a depression, and he said he was too weak to remain abstinent. He recalled: 

It was then that he confirmed 2022 would very likely be just as fruitful as 2021 for his progeny. While Nick Cannon fathering so many children with different women in a short time span is a unique situation, it doesn’t appear to be too much of an issue for those involved. Abby De La Rosa loves that her children are part of such a large family, saying:

Bre Tiesi also defended their family dynamic, saying that even with so many women involved, if she ever needs anything from Nick Cannon, he’s there. She said:

The Wild 'n Out host has addressed this as well, saying this summer that even with so many kids, he’s probably more engaged with children throughout their day than the average adult. He said:

Hopefully that all continues as the kiddos get older, since currently only three of his children are over the age of 2. I guess now the only question is will there be more? Much has been said about Nick Cannon and his seemingly ever-growing brood of kids. The media personality has fathered eight children and reportedly has another one on the way. With this, commentators across the web have questioned just how much time the Hollywood vet has for his kids. Such a thing is probably a balancing act for him, but he recently spent some quality time with the twins that he shares with ex-wife Mariah Carey. Cannon rented out an entire waterpark for the two 11-year-olds and posted about it on social media. I mean, because that’s no big deal and something that we all do, right?

Nick Cannon posted about the experience with his two oldest children, Monroe and Moroccan, on his Instagram. The video shows the trio enjoying the rides and simply living it up at the unnamed waterpark. And based on the footage, I honestly can’t tell who’s having more fun: Cannon or his kids. I have to say, the inclusion of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Summertime” was a nice touch, as the track definitely lends itself to the carefree vibe of the video. I’d wager that the Cannon kids had a nice time kicking it with their dad and he with them. Getting an entire waterpark to yourself is definitely special, and the pre-teens now have some fond memories that they can hold onto for years to come.

This personalized waterpark trip comes on the heels of Nick Cannon and Brie Tesi welcoming their baby boy, Legendary Love. The little one arrived earlier than expected, and Tesi and Cannon kept things a secret out of caution due to the former apparently being “sold out” by someone earlier in her pregnancy. Tesi has gotten flak for having Cannon’s latest child and, though she says it doesn’t “genuinely affect [her],” she questioned why so many would be concerned about “what happens in [her] household.”

Still, questions persist about how the father of her child manages to be there for his children. Nick Cannon has spoken about how involved he is as a parent, saying that he’s “probably engaged throughout [his] children’s day, more often than the average adult can be.” He says that he takes them to school and supports them during their extracurricular activities. And if he’s not physically present, Cannon apparently carves out time to talk to them via FaceTime. 

The Masked Singer host has also spoken about his views on monogamy and how his split from Mariah Carey affected them. The end of his and Carey’s relationship really stuck with him and, just recently, he reminisced about the “fantasy love” they once had. However, he’s also clarified the current state of their relationship, and he’s not exactly looking to get back with her. 

But it’s great to see that Nick Cannon is spending time with their two children. With Monroe and Moroccan reaching their teen years, one would think that Cannon will try to spend as much time as he can with them before they begin to branch out more and do their own things.

Obviously, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have deep history. After a whirlwind romance, the two got married in the Bahamas in 2008. They eventually went on to have a pair of twins together too, but their busy careers and schedules were reportedly the impetus for Cannon and Carey's split. Interestingly, though, the Masked Singer host seemed to express some desire of late to rekindle that “fantasy love” he once had with his ex-wife. However, now he’s seen fit to clarify the true state of their relationship.

Nick Cannon Recently Deemed Mariah Carey His Ultimate Love

Earlier this week, in an interview with The Shade Room’s The Hot Tee Talk Show, Nick Cannon unsurprisingly got peppered with questions about the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” crooner. (A song for which Mariah Carey was sued over recently for $20 million.) Cannon had no hesitation in gushing about the mother of his oldest kids, but his word choice certainly raised a lot of eyebrows. See the clip here:

The sentiment is certainly a fantasy, given the fact that the signer is purportedly still in a relationship with longtime boyfriend Bryan Tanaka. However, many believed that the TV personality was hinting that his ex need only say the magic word and he’s literally “there.” Yet, apparently, that’s not quite the case.

Nick Cannon Addresses Previous Mariah Carey Thoughts

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the Wild ‘N Out star explained that the supposed fantasy he was talking about needs more “context,” which he was all too willing to give. He backpedaled that the idea of reuniting romantically with Mariah Carey was more out of nostalgia than actual reality. Nick Cannon stated to the outlet:

Truer words have probably never been spoken. In the intervening years since divorcing Mariah Carey, the former talk show host has actually sired six additional kids in total, bringing his total to eight, and another child soon the way. He’s in fact found some kinship with fellow baby-maker Elon Musk on Twitter this past week. Nevertheless, the 41-year-old is evidently holding out no hope that Carey wants to deal with the ever-increasing Cannon brood any more than she already has to, saying:

Truth be told, the infamous baby daddy has been candid that none of his five in total babies' mothers hang out together. He definitely has a favorite baby mama, and the choice might flabbergast fans just as it did Andy Cohen. In regard to the first one, though, Nick Cannon told ET that he and Mariah Carey are just “close friends, the best of friends, great parents together.” Still, Cannon maintains that their relationship was the “biggest fantasy of my life,” and even referenced that one time they “shut Disneyland down” just to renew their vows back in the day.

The star was actually thought to be trying to win Mariah Carey back around Valentine’s Day when he dropped a new single that sampled some of her music. In the wake of the speculation at that time, he revealed that he knew such an endeavor was “impossible.” He continued that Carey had been his “dream girl” who he “messed it up” with but that the song was mainly his way of owning up to his shortcomings in their marriage.

I guess “Always Be My Baby” hits a little closer to home for Nick Cannon than the rest of us… Alas. We'll be keeping an eye out for more on Nick Cannon’s complicated romantic entanglements, along with any news on the upcoming eighth season of his show The Masked Singer, which is slated for a fall release on the 2022 TV schedule.

Nick Cannon has made jokes about “populating the Earth,” as his eighth child is due to be born any minute now, apparently, and it looks like he’s got at least one more on the way. The general public seems fascinated with the actor’s nontraditional lifestyle, including how he’s able to stay involved in all of his children’s lives and provide for the children’s five mothers. It’s an interesting dynamic, to be sure, and Abby De La Rosa opened up about what it means for her children to have so many brothers and sisters.

Abby De La Rosa gave birth to sons Zion and Zillion in June 2021, and is currently expecting a third child, with Nick Cannon rumored to be the father. The baby mama drama between De La Rosa, Mariah Carey, Brittany Bell, Alyssa Scott and Bre Tiesi seems to be kept to a minimum (except, perhaps, that one incident that prompted an on-air apology). While not a lot is known about the women’s relationship, De La Rosa said on Instagram Stories that she loves that her children are part of a big family. When asked if she was OK with her soon-to-be trio having so many siblings, she responded:

It’s no surprise that she was asked about her family’s situation during that social media Q&A, and she likely gets more than her share of other people’s opinions about it. Bre Tiesi also opened up recently about getting flak as she prepares to give birth to Nick Cannon’s eighth child. Abby De La Rosa said she doesn’t need to explain herself to anyone, and she can only speak for her own situation, which she maintains is a blessing. In her words:

Most of Nick Cannon’s children are still very young, but it sounds like Abby De La Rosa plans on the siblings all growing up quite close with each other. Bre Tiesi had a similar outlook when discussing her family’s dynamic recently. She told ET that she doesn’t communicate with the other mothers at this point, but someday she will. Tiesi said:

The subject of siblings, however, might still be a touchy one for Mariah Carey, who shares twins Monroe and Moroccan Scott with her ex-husband. In an interview late in 2021, the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer clapped back at the idea that Nick Cannon’s other children were step-siblings to hers.

Mariah Carey has released more than a few notable hits over the course of her illustrious music career. There’s “Hero,” “Always Be My Baby,” and “Belong Together,” which earned her two Grammy Awards. But one of her biggest hits is without a doubt the holiday anthem “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” The catchy tune has become a music staple and is easily one of the most recognizable yuletide tracks ever recorded. It would seem the song has sparked a bit of controversy, though, as Carey now finds herself facing a $20 million lawsuit connected to it. 

Said lawsuit was filed by songwriter Andy Stone, who performs as Vince Vance for the country-pop band Vince Vance & the Valiants. Per legal documents obtained by The New York Post, Stone is suing the singer for $20 million in damages due to several alleged factors, including copyright infringement and misappropriation. Stone apparently wrote a song bearing the same title for his own band, and it was released in 1989. Though it’s worth mentioning that both tracks sport different lyrics and melodies. 

The suit, which also names Mariah Carey’s co-writer Walter Afanasieff, alleges that the pair “knowingly, willfully and intentionally engaged in a campaign to infringe [Stone’s] copyright in the work.” It goes on to say that this all happened at the expense of “the commercial gain, personal profit and unjust enrichment of the defendants and the irreparable injury and financial loss” of the plaintiff. The songwriter also claims that neither Carey nor her collaborator ever consulted him for use of the title. And while Carey’s song may be the more recognizable of the two, Stone asserts that his tune was getting strong airplay in 1993 – the year before the pop star’s track dropped. 

When Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was released in 1994, it quickly became a smash hit. It earned numerous platinum certifications in different regions of the world and received acclaim from music critics. The song even hit #1 on the charts in 2021, more than 25 years after its initial release. The song is so infectious that even Carey is known to rock out to it at home. As of this writing, her reps have not commented on the lawsuit, which also states that Andy Stone’s lawyers contacted her in April 2021 to discuss the matter.

The tune has been incredibly lucrative for the musical icon as well. A report found that by 2017, the singer had earned around $60 million and by 2021, had likely amassed  close to $70 million in total for it. As you’d expect, the former wife of Nick Cannon also gets the royalties from platforms like Spotify, on which the song smashed multiple records. 

This isn’t the first instance in which Mariah Carey has dealt with a legal situation. In 2019, she sued her former assistant for millions, claiming that she recorded “embarrassing” videos of her without her knowledge. The case was eventually settled, but only time will tell how this latest situation plays out for the Free Guy-featured artist.

It’s been six years since Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s marriage came to an end and, in that time, the former talk show host has had a number of relationships and fathered at least five more children (soon to be six) with multiple women. There’s something about the “Always Be My Baby” singer, though, that he hasn’t quite been able to get past, and he recently opened up about his split from the mother of his oldest two children. In doing so, he revealed how the divorce changed his views on marriage and monogamy.

Nick Cannon’s love life has been a hot gossip topic since it was revealed that Bre Tiesi was expecting a child with him just months after he welcomed three children with two other women. The actor has spoken at length about his large and nontraditional family, his views on monogamy and who his favorite baby mama is. But on the May 24 episode of It's Tricky with Raquel Harper, he gave some rare comments about his divorce from Mariah Carey, admitting that now when it comes to marriage and monogamy, "I'm not built for that":

It definitely sounds like the media personality still holds his ex-wife in the highest regard, despite their marriage not working out. The former couple met in 2005, tying the knot three years later and welcoming twins Monroe and Moroccan Scott. Though they split in 2016, the Drumline actor said they “talk quite often and I have so much respect for her and consider her still to this day one of my best friends.”

The end of their romantic relationship has apparently stuck with him, though, as he admitted to Raquel Harper that divorce felt like a personal failure. When asked if he had not yet healed from the divorce, Nick Cannon admitted:

Many fans wondered if he was “dealing with it” by trying to reconcile with his ex-wife, after releasing a song in February called “Alone," which included lyrics about keeping his “distance” and not wanting to “fuck it up” for someone he seemingly knew who had moved on. The song even sampled one of Mariah Carey’s songs, “Love Takes Time.” The Masked Singer host responded about the personal nature of the song, but he knew that winning Carey back was “impossible.”

The “Fantasy” singer, for her part, may have responded as well. Generally known to keep her love life private, Mariah Carey posted a Valentine’s Day selfie with boyfriend Bryan Tanaka. Was she taking a shot at her ex-husband, or merely celebrating the romantic holiday? I guess that’s for us to interpret as we wish.

For many years, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey were one of those “It” celebrity couples. The two first met in 2005 and would marry three years later in the Bahamas. They welcomed their twin boys not long after but ultimately finalized a divorce in 2016. Ever since, the pair have moved on with new partners – multiple partners (and multiple babies) for Cannon. Yet, interestingly, there was some speculation that the former All That star was trying to win back his ex-wife through song recently, and he’s responding to all the hoopla.

Facts: there was a new song released on YouTube. There was indeed a Mariah Carey ode on it. And there were suggestive lyrics from Nick Cannon about keeping his “distance” and not wanting to “fuck it up” for someone he seemingly knew who had moved on. Not long after, Carey herself, who is typically private about her relationships, posted a selfie with her boyfriend for Valentine's Day.

In response to the situation, while on his eponymous show, the host again to clear some things up. He in fact acknowledged the possibility of wanting his ex back, saying:

It’s likely impossible simply because Mariah Carey is with someone else, and there's the matter of Nick Cannon’s complicated sex life these days. (His eighth baby is soon on the way.) Apparently, he tried to go celibate for a time but just couldn’t hold out, adding that he has no intention of stopping his baby-making if God so wills it. (Carey took a bit of a shot at the idea of the kids being her kids’ “step siblings.”) But the Masked Singer host also noted of late that the song is an attempt to make amends toward the mother of his first children. He said:

So, all in all, the song was actually about the “Vision of Love” songstress. But what did he do to “mess it up”? At the time of Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s divorce, they claimed that they had simply grown apart. However, there were persistent rumors that Cannon had cheated, especially after he had a kid with Brittany Bell only months after the divorce. Carey would only say in her 2020 memoir, per Distractify, that their hectic schedules took a “toll” on their marriage. Cannon himself doesn’t specifically own up to any cheating in the new song but, through the lyrics, he did say he “ain’t shit,” that he “fucked up” and “can’t stop crying.”

It's not far-fetched that the former America's Got Talent host would've tried to get his ex back through music. Kanye West attempted to woo ex Kim Kardashian back via song not long ago – and it hasn’t exactly worked in his favor...

Music is a very interesting way for one to sort out their feelings. But I guess however Nick Cannon needs to process, six years later.

Nick Cannon has made a lot of news over the past several months for fathering several children (whom his ex-wife doesn’t appear to feel much need to have a strong relationship with) by several different women at basically the same time. And, he’s clearly had relationships (however short-lived) with others since breaking up with his former wife, singing superstar Mariah Carey, in 2014. But, Cannon has now shared his lingering feelings for his ex in a new song, and Carey has (seemingly) responded by posting a selfie with her boyfriend.

What Did Nick Cannon Say About His Feelings For Mariah Carey? 

I really don’t think anyone could have seen this coming, especially with Nick Cannon’s recent track record with women being taken into account. While he has said that he was celibate for roughly a couple of months late last year, he still has yet another baby on the way (and had to apologize for that announcement), even though it sounds like he’s spent the past eight years pining for Mariah Carey. 

The day before Valentine’s Day, Cannon released a new single, titled “Alone,” to his YouTube page. Artwork for the song is a box of chocolates with the top broken down the middle to reveal the sweets inside, and while he doesn’t directly mention Carey, he made a point to sample her song, “Love Takes Time,” which was on her debut album. And, Cannon details how he “ain’t got nothing but love for ya” in the opening line of the tune, later noting that “I keep my distance, stay in my lane,” because “I know you got a man, it’s a little too late.” 

Basically, it definitely sounds like Cannon would love to get back together with the mother of his oldest children, 10-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, but maintains that “I ain’t trying to fuck it up for ya,” with regards to her relationship with her boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka.

Mariah Carey Seems To Have Responded By Posting A Selfie With Boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka

If you look over Carey’s Instagram, she is not one to post constant pictures of either herself with Bryan Tanaka or of her boyfriend by himself, with most of her posts lately being of her, her children, or tributes to friends who've passed. Their romance is mostly kept private, so it was a bit of a surprise to see her step up with a Valentine’s Day shot of the duo. Take a look!

Easy and breezy, right? The couple (who began dating over five years ago) is smiling gently at the camera, and Carey notes in her caption that their “Valentine’s marathon” kept going, seemingly for a full day. Considering that the two most recent shots of Tanaka that we’ve gotten on Carey’s social media are him dressed as Dracula (full face paint and all) for a family viewing of Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, and the romantic pair getting on a plane (fully masked) before heading to a vacation, the timing of such a clear, loving portrait of Carey and Tanaka does appear to have at least a little to do with Cannon’s song.

As noted, though, it was just Valentine’s Day, meaning that while Mariah Carey’s photo can be seen as a response of sorts to Nick Cannon’s longing song lyrics for her, the post of her and Bryan Tanaka could also just (simply) be a way for her to show the world that she’s totally happy with the relationship she has right now, regardless of what Cannon does or does not still feel about her.

Pop icon Mariah Carey is all but the unofficial Queen of Christmas thanks to the song that dominates the holiday season every year. You can count on her standard “All I Want for Christmas is You” to hit the Billboard Hot 100. And this year was no exception. The former American Idol judge responded to the classic reaching the summit again.

The Christmas classic is so ubiquitous (along with its companion album Merry Christmas) that it’s become a holiday staple. With “All I Want for Christmas is You” hitting #1 again, Mariah Carey took to Twitter to celebrate the big news.  The legendary songstress couldn’t hide her excitement about the news, saying:

After racking up nineteen #1 hits over three decades, it was refreshing to hear the influential singer be so awestruck by the latest news. She was so flabbergasted and grateful to the fans that she couldn’t collect herself. Before she continued with the celebration with her family and friends, Mariah Carey took the time to shout out to her fanbase for making the Christmas song top the chart yet again:

“All I Want for Christmas is You” wasn’t always the mega-hit it is today. The song initially didn’t hit the Hot 100 due to rules surrounding commercial releases. The song has increased in popularity and influence over the last three decades.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon once shared a union in marriage and have two children together, but apparently, their children’s connection to Cannon’s larger family ends there. At least, that’s what Mariah Carey indicated in a recent interview, as she seemingly clapped back at the idea Nick Cannon’s other kids are ‘step’ siblings with their shared children. 

The pop singer recently spoke to ET about her upcoming special Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues on Apple TV+, and the topic shifted to Mariah Carey’s ex-Nick Cannon and his increasingly growing family. Kevin Frazier asked if any of their stepbrothers or stepsisters will celebrate Christmas the way she does, and Carey cut off the question pretty quickly.

The interview quickly shifted, so there wasn’t much time for a follow-up to really drill down on what Mariah Carey meant. It seemed pretty clear Carey was not interested in the line of questioning and possibly the idea that she and Nick Cannon’s kids share a sibling-oriented connection with her ex’s other children.

Another possibility is that Mariah Carey merely pointed out that Nick Cannon’s children outside their marriage are not her children, so, therefore, cannot be her stepchildren. That’s technically correct, though the fact Carey snapped about it and shot down the line of questioning made it feel like a sensitive subject. You can see the moment play out below. 

Mariah Carey’s interview is making rounds partly because the singer has never kept her opinions quiet in regard to certain topics. Carey is more than willing to call out other celebrities or air out grievances during interviews, so it’s not a shock she'd open up here. Again though, it’s hard to assume too much about the quick clap back simply because the exchange started and ended so quickly. 

The reason behind this question was mainly tied to astonishing number of children Nick Cannon has fathered in recent years. Cannon currently has seven children with four women, Mariah Carey being the mother to his twins, Moroccan Scott and Monroe. 

Even though this moment was a personal one, it’s fitting that Mariah Carey is back in the news around the holidays, as she’s more or less a pop-culture staple during Christmas-time. Her upcoming Apple TV+ special Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues will likely solidify that further, with special appearances from musical artists Khalid and Kirk Franklin. Based on Carey’s comments, I think it’s a safe bet Nick Cannon and his additional children outside of their shared twins will not be featured, though I’m sure no one would have expected that to happen. 

Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday, December 3rd. Those that are looking to really go all-in on the holidays as soon as December hits will enjoy that, regardless of Carey’s thoughts on her children.

Ryan Reynolds new movie Free Guy has been embraced by fans and critics alike, but it's possible that nobody loves the movie quite as much as Mariah Carey. Her song "Fantasy" plays a significant role in the film and the pop star has said that she's seen the movie multiple times, whether it's just to hear her song or because she really loves the movie is unclear. What is clear is that she's getting so much of a kick out of the song's resurgence that she's doing social media duets with Ryan Reynolds now, sort of.

The star of Free Guy recently posted a short video to TikTok that had him lip syncing along with the Mariah Carey hit. And now Carey herself has joined in, making her own video and lip syncing along with Ryan Reynolds. I'm not saying the two of them should go on tour together or anything, but this is great.

Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" is basically the "love theme" for Free Guy. It plays several times throughout the film and represents Guy's thoughts when it comes to Molotov Girl, the game avatar character he falls for, who is played, in more ways than one, by Jodie Comer. The advertising for Free Guy was seemingly everywhere before the film's release, and so the song was as well. If you haven't been able to get the song out of your head recently that's understandable. If watching this video just put the song back in your head, we apologize.

Free Guy has been about as big a hit as you can expect to have under the circumstances. It's been number one at the box office in its first two weekends, bringing in over $60 million domestically and over $115 million globally. While those numbers are certainly small compared to pre-covid, they represent a lot of people who have been willing to go to theaters to see the film, especially since there has been no other option for Free Guy.

And the numbers are apparently good enough for Disney/Fox that talk of a sequel is already underway. What that could be is anybody's guess. Considering that the first movie has its share of fun with the very concept of franchise sequels, there's an irony that Free Guy could get one of its own, but if it can find something interesting to do with the concept, it could be a lot of fun, while also being a feel good movie, just like this first one.

And hopefully if there is a sequel, there will be a place for Mariah Carey in it. Maybe another of her songs will get brought back for a sequel, or perhaps there's an opportunity for a Mariah Carey cameo. Considering the marketing she's been doing for the movie, it's only fair.

This past weekend, there was no film that even touched the popularity of Shawn Levy's Free Guy. The movie was released alongside two other notable wide release titles – the horror sequel Don't Breathe 2 and the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect – but the video game-inspired movie took the lion's share of the movie-going audience. Based on its performance and all of the buzz that has been built, people are clearly loving it... but it's quite possible that nobody loves it more than five-time Grammy winner Mariah Carey, whose song "Fantasy" is prominently featured on the soundtrack.

Many social media users have been vocal about their Free Guy thoughts in the last few days, posting love for stars Ryan Reynolds, Lil Rel Howery, Jodie Comer, and Taika Waititi, but I'm not sure anybody is going to top the revelation from Mariah Carey on Twitter that she has already watched the blockbuster nine times:

Is it possible that this is hyperbole? Absolutely. Running end-to-end, Free Guy is nearly two hours long, and 18 hours of one's life is a lot to dedicate to one film. But as someone who personally loves seeing people be super excited about watching movies, there is definitely a significant part of me that wants it to be true.

In Free Guy, Mariah Carey’s music actually plays a somewhat significant part in the plot. At the start of the film, Ryan Reynolds’ Guy is an ordinary non-playable character (a.k.a. NPC) in an open world video game, but things start to evolve for him when he first sees Molotov Girl (Jodie Comer) and the song “Fantasy” starts playing in his head. It’s one of the first steps he takes towards becoming a sentient artificial intelligence, so that’s a pretty big deal.

It stretches the imagination to believe that Mariah Carey actually bought nine movie tickets this past weekend to watch the Free Guy several times, but given her audible presence in it, perhaps Shawn Levy let her get multiple sneak peeks at the thing over the last few months. Either way, hopefully this display of effusive positivity will ultimately land the singer at least a cameo in Free Guy 2 (which is now in development).

Music is such a key ingredient to any movie, especially when it comes to selling a film like director Shawn Levy’s Free Guy to the public. And as luck would have it, star Ryan Reynolds helped hand-deliver the ultimate hook to get this concept, and the song that sells it, stuck in everyone’s heads for quite some time. All it took was Reynolds’ obsession with Mariah Carey’s music while working on the film’s story to make the dream of Free Guy become a running gag that’s just a sweet, sweet fantasy.

As you can tell in both trailers for Free Guy, the key piece of music that’s spanned both looks at the now December-slated release has been Mariah Carey’s early career mega hit “Fantasy,” and the reason for that was simply writer’s inspiration. With Ryan Reynolds acting as one of the hands that helped overhaul the original script written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, his talents turned out to be fueled by Carey’s collected works, with that 1995 single off the aptly-titled album Daydream being the metaphorical rug that tied the room together. While speaking with Shawn Levy on behalf of CinemaBlend, as he was promoting Love and Monsters, I asked about the story behind this comedic gem, and he explained it as follows:

Both Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds have been adamant about how much they’ve enjoyed working on Free Guy together; and that much is as apparent now as was back on the film’s set in the summer of 2019. The original concept linked these collaborators in their enthusiasm, and the process only seems to have forged their talents all the closer, as Reynolds and Levy are already primed to bring their skills to a future time travel comedy the pair have pledged to Netflix. Which, if the humanistic comedy that fuels both Love and Monsters and Free Guy is any indication, could lead to another musician’s catalog being raided for the still-unnamed project.

I can’t understate the importance of “Fantasy” when it comes to Free Guy, as the subject of its inclusion led to a moment of slightly evil glee on the part of Shawn Levy. That’s not saying that the man is vicious in his intent, but like any good creator, Levy takes delight in gauging what he can tease and what he can keep secret. As he started to further reveal the main thrust of the running gag, a playful moment ensued that started with a promise of information, but turned into the following:

While this is a pretty big tease for just how far Free Guy’s Mariah Carey obsession goes, we have seen a hint at where this plot device is going. In the recently unveiled second trailer for the film, Jodie Comer’s character of Molotov Girl, the Free City avatar to the game’s creator and programmer Millie, is seen singing “Fantasy” as she’s walking down the street. It almost looks like this moment is also the moment where Ryan Reynolds’ Guy first sees/falls in love with Molotov Girl, which means that this song’s meaning could tie to our protagonist’s feelings for the woman of his dreams. Check out the second trailer for Free Guy below, and you can see what I’m talking about.

Should this theory be true, there’s a chance that we’ll hear “Fantasy” not only recur in its original form, but also reinterpreted in anything from ambient noise and specially themed easter eggs, as well as woven into composer Christoph Beck’s Free Guy score in some fashion or another. None of this is confirmed right now, and honestly, whether these guesses are right or wrong, Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds might have a good-natured chuckle when reading this line of reasoning. It’s all part of the good natured suspense that’s going to lead audiences to see Free Guy when it finally presses start in theaters on December 11.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been under intense scrutiny in recent months. Several employees have alleged that producers and senior managers created a toxic work environment; the employees also claimed that there was rampant sexual misconduct and assault going on behind-the-scenes. Amidst these allegations, the show has been under more intense scrutiny and now an old clip from Mariah Carey’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show has resurfaced online. It got enough notice that the singer is finally opening up about the moment DeGeneres outed her pregnancy on TV.

Back in 2008, Mariah Carey appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. At the time, rumors were circulating that she was pregnant. During the interview, the talk show host asked Carey about whether she was pregnant, but the singer was mum and tried changing the subject. Ellen DeGeneres then poured Carey some champagne, which the singer called “peer pressure.” She excused herself from drinking before confirming her pregnancy to Ellen minutes later. Speaking with Vulture, Carey recalled that particular appearance and how it impacted her. Here’s what she said:

Even after all these years, I do think that the interview was incredibly awkward to watch. Mariah Carey miscarried not long after confirming that she was pregnant on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. However, she didn’t reveal the information until she announced that she was pregnant once more in 2010 (Carey and then-husband Nick Cannon welcomed twins in 2011).

It didn’t sound like Mariah Carey wanted to pile on to The Ellen DeGeneres Show any further and throw anyone “under any proverbial bus,” but she did go on to mention the one thing she would have appreciated while doing the interview back then. In her words:

The singer didn’t elaborate on the matter any further and closed the subject with a lyric, as only Mariah Carey would do. The singer has moved on in the years since and, after a decades-spanning career, Carey is all set to release her new memoir, titled The Meaning of Mariah Carey on September 29.

As for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the talk show host has since apologized to her staff twice, once in a letter and the second time during a video conference call. It was during the call that Ellen DeGeneres confirmed to them that three of the show’s producers were being fired from the show, and she also addressed the rumors that she didn’t allow eye contact. Ultimately, DeGeneres has said she is “committed to ensuring” a better workplace environment moving forward.

For nearly 20 years, American Idol has served as one of the most famous, popular, well-viewed and influential reality TV shows/competition programs in TV history. Television in the early 21st century has undeniably been shaped by the success and influence of American Idol, but the famous TV show hasn't always stayed the same. As American Idol has molded and adapted itself through new eras of television, the show's panel of judges have been changing in the process. Once, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul sat around the table and determined who might be the next musical superstar. Nowadays, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry serve as the three judges on the panel, determining who'll make it into the finals of American Idol.

Particularly during the show's less stable years, the judges chairs were left in a constant rotation, featuring a variety of famous faces only serving a limited amount of time in the judge's chair. Some people have stayed on the show much longer than others, and there are certainly some judges who didn't have a great time during their tenure on the popular series. Therefore, let's take a look at the history of American Idol judges and why they left.

DJ Stryker (No Seasons)

There's a good chance you're not familiar with the name DJ Stryker, though if you listen to the radio station KROQ, or played the video game Burnout 3, you might recognize the voice. In the early days of American Idol, there were plans to have four judges at the table instead of the custom three that audiences are used to seeing on the show. In the fourth chair was DJ Stryker, if things had originally gone to plan, but the radio personality decided not to take part in the TV program due to what he deemed "image concerns." It is hard to know what that means; maybe we will never know for sure.

Granted, this one might be a bit of a cheat, since DJ Stryker didn't ultimately accept the position as one of the judges on American Idol. Still, it's fascinating to know that this radio personality had an opportunity to become part of the one of the biggest shows of the early 21st century and turned down the chance. Do you think Stryker regrets it? Maybe. Maybe not. Ultimately, just like DJ Stryker, you're only left to wonder, "what if?"

Angie Martinez (Season 2)

In season two of American Idol, there was a second attempt to add a fourth judge to the American Idol panel, but it didn't work out this time either. In the audition segments of the reality television program, musician/radio personality Angie Martinez was on-hand to judge, critique, and evaluate the contestants and hopeful musicians who came into the audition room. But the process of turning down so many singing hopefuls weighed heavily on her. After only a few days of auditions, the radio personality left the program, claiming that the grueling process of destroying so many people's musical dreams and aspirations weighed heavily on her. In the time since she left the music reality TV series, Martinez has continued her radio career.

Paula Abdul (Season 1 - Season 8)

Among the core trio of the original American Idol judges, Paula Abdul was a world-famous musician before she became an American Idol judge. But the reality TV series provided a second career for the celebrity, allowing her experience as a singer to provide key insight and criticisms of the singers on the show. Allow with her bitter-and-sweet chemistry with Simon Cowell, Abdul served as a key component in making American Idol the immensely popular show we know it to be today. 

While she was there from the beginning, Abdul opted to leave the popular series after the conclusion of Season 8, marking the beginning of the end for American Idol as many viewers knew it. The singer left the series after she was unable to come up with an agreement with the producers of the series. Since her American Idol tenure, following a 26 year-pause from singing, Abdul began performing in 2016.

Simon Cowell (Season 1 - Season 9)

Quite likely the most famous and contentious judge in American Idol history, Simon Cowell was not afraid to speak his mind — even if what he had to say wasn't the least bit kind. While the music manager made more than his fair share of contestants shed tears, the British judge wasn't in the game to play it nice. Rather, Cowell spoke his honest truth — as he saw it (and heard it), at least. It cemented the show's pop culture legacy in the process.

But Simon Cowell wasn't mean simply for the sport of it. The music executive could usher out just as many compliments too, if the singer had the chops. Simon Cowell just spoke his mind. That forthright style resulted in many of American Idol's most memorable moments. He served as one of the core trio of judges from American Idol's inception, alongside Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, but Cowell left the popular reality TV show in 2011 to usher in an American version of The X Factor in 2011, which was cancelled in 2013. In 2016, Cowell took a chair as one of the judges on America's Got Talent, where the television personality has remained ever since.

Kara DioGuardi (Season 8 - Season 9)

As it has been mentioned in this article before, American Idol has tried to incorporate a fourth judge onto the panel with little-to-no success. The past two attempts to include a fourth person at the table went south for separate reasons, and the show kept its central three judges for the majority of the show's run. But in Season 8, the producers were ready for a switch. In Season 8, singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi joined American Idol as the fourth judge. Evidently, the third time was the charm for the popular TV series, as DioGuardi stayed on American Idol. Well, for a little while, at least...

Kara DioGuardi remained on the reality TV show for two seasons before leaving after the ninth season's conclusion. In a statement, DioGuardi said she felt like she "won the lottery" when she was picked to be a judge on American Idol, but the musician felt like it was "the best time" to leave the hit series. There were rumors that the producers ultimately preferred the three judge format, but it's hard to know for certain if this is the reason. For the next couple seasons, American Idol did return to its three judge format before briefly returning to the four judge panel in Season 12. Nevertheless, since Kara DioGuardi stepped away from American Idol, DioGuardi continues to perform and produce, and she starred in Chicago on Broadway.

Ellen DeGeneres (Season 9)

When Paula Abdul stepped down as a judge on American Idol following a dispute in her contract, Ellen DeGeneres stepped in to fill the now-vacant fourth judge chair. But the talk show's host tenure on the reality TV series was ultimately short-lived, as Ellen had only one season on American Idol. At the time, Ellen admitted that American Idol "didn't feel like the right fit," both due to her intense talk show schedule and the pressures that resulted from this position, which involved judging people and hurting their feelings publicly. There were several folks who were critical of Ellen's time on Idol, as the comedian doesn't have a lot of experience in the music industry, and there were a few claims that Ellen had a tough working relationship with Simon Cowell. Later on, DeGeneres called the American Idol "one of her worst decisions." These days, Ellen continues her show and doing comedy.

Steven Tyler (Season 10 - Season 11)

With Simon Cowell stepping down from his tenure as one of the founding judges on American Idol, the Fox reality TV series was in a serious changing point. With the double digit seasons came a few new faces in the chairs, especially with Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres stepping away from the show as well. In comes Steven Tyler. The veteran rock performer certainly knows how to pack a stadium, but he didn't have an especially long stay on American Idol. The musician came on-board in Season 10, but then he left following the eleventh season. As Tyler explained in a statement, he left the show in order to continue working with Aerosmith. Tyler is still rocking with his band these days. It doesn't seem like the absence of American Idol from Steven Tyler's professional career has become any sort of monumental loss.

Mariah Carey (Season 12)

After Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez (temporarily) left American Idol, there were a couple judges chairs that needed to be filled. In the show's 12th season, Mariah Carey joined Nicki Minaj as newcomer judges on the popular program. But their time on American Idol would equally be short-lived. After only one season, the record-breaking singer stepped away from the reality television series, and Mariah Carey said she outright hated her time on American Idol. As a replacement for Lopez, Carey claimed working on American Idol was like "going to work every day in hell with Satan," which may have been in reference to her fiery working relationship with Minaj. While the feuds between judges like Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul were playful, Carey and Minaj apparently really got on each other's bad sides, resulting in both of them exiting Idol. Mariah Carey stays busy as a musician and actress.

Nicki Minaj (Season 12)

Similar to Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj joined American Idol's twelfth season after Steven Tyler and (temporarily) Jennifer Lopez left the program. Alas, the hip hop artist wouldn't stay on the reality television show for long. As it was mentioned earlier, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey didn't get along. At least, by Carey's admission. Minaj hasn't talked as much about her departure from the series. Based on her short tenure on the show, however, it's possible that she either didn't care for the show or her feud with Mariah Carey wasn't what the producers wanted. In any case, Minaj continues to perform as a musician.

Randy Jackson (Season 1 - Season 12)

With the notable exception of host Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson was one of the longest-running celebrities in American Idol's history. The bassist became a household name thanks to his involvement as a judge, and through his signature line-up of catchphrases and warm personality, Jackson became an endearing presence throughout the majority of American Idol's hit run. Alas, while Jackson stayed involved with American Idol for a long time, nothing can last forever. Following Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell's departures before him, Randy Jackson became the third and final judge in the show's original line-up to call it quits and move on following Season 12. Ultimately, the judge stayed as long as he could, but it was time to leave.

Jennifer Lopez (Season 10 - Season 15, Skipping Season 12)

American Idol's tenth season served as a major shake-up for the reality TV series. With Simon Cowell leaving the hit show following Season 9, and Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi following his footsteps, American Idol shaped up to be a different series than before as it hit the double digits. In addition to Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez came on-board to serve as one of Idol's new judges. While Tyler only lasted two seasons on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez served as a judge for five seasons in the long run. Although, admittedly, it happened in a rather unorthodox fashion on the hit show.

Similar to Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez came and went from American Idol from Season 10 through Season 11, though the musician/actress came back during American Idol's 13th season and she remained involved through Season 15, when American Idol got cancelled by Fox. While Lopez claimed that American Idol's commitments were tough on the musician when she quit before Season 12, they convinced her to return in Season 13 and Lopez remained a fixture on the popular series until its cancellation. Recently, Lopez received a great deal of acclaim for her supporting turn in last year's Hustlers. She received a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actor's Guild nomination, but she was ultimately snubbed for the Oscars.

Keith Urban (Season 12 - Season 15)

Following Steven Tyler's leave from American Idol, musician Keith Urban stepped in alongside Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey to be an American Idol judge. But unlike Minaj and Carey, Urban stayed on the reality TV show for the following few seasons. Specifically, the singer-songwriter remained a mainstay on American Idol for four more seasons before leaving after Season 15, when the TV series came to a temporary end as Fox cancelled the once-popular show. When American Idol was given second life at ABC, much like Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban was replaced by new judges. Specifically, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry. They ushered in the renewed reality TV show's surprise rebirth on a new network.

Harry Connick Jr. (Season 13 - Season 15)

Once American Idol's longest-standing judge Randy Jackson left the reality TV show's panel after Season 12, there was another chair that needed to be filled. That's when Harry Connick Jr. came to American Idol. The actor/singer-songwriter was the final celebrity judge to stay on the program as the show winded down towards its final years on Fox, and he joined Keith Urban (the only judge to return from Season 12) and Jennifer Lopez, who made her return following her absence in Season 12, as the three American Idol judges during the show's decline. Unfortunately for Connick Jr., Idol was on the outs. American Idol was cancelled following its 15th season. When it made its return on ABC, Connick Jr., Lopez and Urban were replaced by Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. The three musicians remain the program's three judges as American Idol continues with its second run.

With that, American Idol has continued with three additional seasons on ABC. While the show is renewed for a 19th season, which will likely air later this year, it's unclear whether or not Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will all be returning as judges. Therefore, if any or all of them decide to leave the show, it will continue a tradition of judges entering and exiting the popular music reality television show. Which judges were your favorites? The Masked Singer viewers may think they've figured out a decent number of contestants in Season 2, though nothing is ever certain until that mask comes off. It's why so many are continuing to debate the identity of many remaining costumed contestants. Among them is the Flower, who a number of people have thought is actually Mariah Carey in disguise.

Despite the fact that these contestants have to go to extreme measures and sign NDAs to make sure they don't spoil the competition, the press still has to ask celebrities whether or not they're competing on the program. A reporter caught up with Mariah Carey on the red carpet at Variety's 2019 Power of Women event, and her response was simple.

Was that "girl, you know I can't talk about that, bye," or "girl, you have to be crazy to think I'd be on The Masked Singer, bye,"? It's a question we probably won't get the answer to, as those thinking Mariah Carey is underneath the mask of the Flower will just have to continue to speculate until the contestant is eliminated or ends up winning the competition.

As for where this speculation all started, celebrity panelist Nicole Scherzinger first suggested Mariah Carey as the person wearing the Flower costume after a clue alluded to the artist's song "Vision of Love." Host Nick Cannon did a bit of a double take on stage, and then jokingly brought up that it had to her because the two of them were holding hands. Cannon and Carey were married for a time, but divorced back in 2016.

If Entertainment Tonight or anyone wants to get to the bottom of who a contestant is on The Masked Singer, asking a celebrity is not the way to go about it. It takes clue examination, and maybe being a fan of the celebrity in order to accurately sniff someone out ahead of time. If Mariah Carey was on The Masked Singer, there'd be scores of her fans on social media showing the proof. So far, very few fans are convinced it's her.

Which is not at all surprising, considering Mariah Carey has an unmistakable iconic voice. The Flower is definitely a professionally trained singer, and probably someone who has won a good deal of awards and acclaim in their day, but the voice sounds nothing like Carey.

Mariah Carey is a talented (and occasionally petty) vocalist, but is she so good she can sing like an entirely different person? Well, probably, but she'd really have no reason to considering she'd sweep the competition using her award-winning voice week after week. I can't imagine an artist as accomplished as Carey going on The Masked Singer and not giving it her all to win.

The Masked Singer Spoilers: The Eagle Failed To Fly, But Was It Enough For Elimination?

Lip Sync Battle was joined by one of music’s greatest talents on a recent special episode. Mariah Carey took many by surprise on Lip Sync Battle when the music legend crashed the show’s tribute to her. Check out the wildly exciting video, as Carey makes a grand entrance as her hit song “Emotions” plays. You will definitely be feeling them when you finish watching below:

Surprise performances will never stop being a lovely thing to watch unfold. You always have to wonder if the cast involved suspects anything. There was a huge curtain set up, so the stage was being quartered off for something. It is tough to imagine they ever thought the Mariah Carey would be stepping on stage in a few minutes.

At the 42-second mark, the camera zooms in on Glee and American Crime Story actor Darren Criss. His eyes are fixed on the curtain and he seems to suspect something is about to happen behind it. He and the rest of the audience can already see the silhouette of a giant butterfly.

Jermaine Dupri and Darren Criss can be seen pointing towards the curtain. Both Dupri and Criss alerting the audience to what they seem to anticipate is something major that is about to occur. Whether either of them was expecting the unveiling of Mariah Carey is fun to consider.

A few more seconds go by before Mariah Carey makes her exciting entrance at the 46-second mark. Lip Sync Battle’s host, LL Cool J, can be heard announcing her arrival and the crowd goes wild. Given that he made the announcement, it is safe to assume that LL Cool J knew that Carey would be making an appearance.

Someone who seems totally shocked (in the most enthusiastically ecstatic sense) is Chrissy Teigen. Her elated reaction continues with the camera catching back up with an excited Teigen at the 1:10-mark. People enjoying surprises will never not be fun and sweet to watch. At the 1:35-mark, Teigen can be seen patting her chest, still excited by what she is seeing.

As the crowd goes wild, Mariah Carey does a little lip syncing. Mouthing three words from her iconic song at the 1:07-mark. Can you spot what they are? If so, you know it is a pretty epic moment for Lip Sync Battle.

Hopefully, Mariah Carey making an appearance on the show turns into a trend-setting move for other artists. Of course, it may be a little tougher to surprise people now. Still, that is no reason to lose out on awesome moments such as these.

Everyone may have suspected someone was behind the curtain. However, it certainly did not cost the audience the impact of seeing Mariah Carey in front of them. Carey also seemed to be having fun. So, it paid off for everyone!

You don't want to get on Mariah Carey's bad side. The musician made that abundantly clear this week. Lianna Azarian was once Carey's assistant, but those days have long since past. Now, Mariah is looking to receive millions of dollars from Azarian, claiming that she recorded "embarrassing" videos of Carey without the celebrity's knowledge. When Azarian threatened to release the videos online, Carey opted to take her one-time assistant to court.

Now, Mariah Carey is looking to receive upwards of $3 million from Lianna Azarian, if the singer-songwriter has her way in court. TMZ reports that Carey first hired Azarian has an executive assistant back in the early months of 2015. From there, it was not long before problems began with Lianna. She would reportedly go "to town" with Carey's credit card and buy personal items, claiming that she was buying the products for Carey and getting a few discounts for herself as such. Azarian said onboard as Carey's assistant until late 2017, when Carey ultimately fired Azarian. Then trouble brewed.

Once Lianna Azarian's professional standing with Mariah Carey was effectively terminated, Azarian reportedly went on the attack. Throughout her professional relationship with Carey, Azarian allegedly made secret videos of her boss repeatedly, and threatened to release them to the public unless she got $8 million from Carey.

These alleged videos of Mariah Carey featured the artist doing "personal activities," but it is believed that if they were released to the public, they would be "extremely damaging" to Carey both "personally and professionally." It is unknown what these videos depict, but it is clear that Carey does not want the public to see them. She was being blackmailed by her former employee to cough up a whole lot of dough for the privacy.

Well, Mariah Carey won't deal with that in kind. She demanded that the videos be returned, and they weren't. That's when the court soon got involved.

The current court case finds Mariah Carey suing for unspecified damages, though it is apparent from the $3 million sum from Lianna Azarian that she is looking to get proper payback from the stress and anguish she has endured from her one-time assistant. The court will ultimately have to decide, however, if Mariah Carey is in the right or in the wrong. But the musical artist seemingly made it clear that she is not at all happy.

This court battle is just at the beginning stages, and there will likely be more updates to follow -- unless the matter is settled out-of-court. Either way, with a personality as strong as Mariah Carey's, it's sure to be a dramatic state of events.

The holiday season is here, so we should expect to hear a lot more Mariah Carey these days. But beyond the famous Christmas songs that she sings, Carey is back in the spotlight thanks to her new album, Caution, which came out earlier this month. In the midst of doing interviews for the brand new release, Carey also touched on some of her earlier career moments -- including her infamous comments about Jennifer Lopez.

Specifically, Mriah Carey was asked why she said she didn't "know" Jennifer Lopez in the early '00s, which has since sparked a meme in recent years. Particularly when, in 2016, Carey claimed she "still" didn't know her. While the comment is famous for being reportedly filled with shade, Carey claims that she was actually being nice.

Mariah Carey's blunt admission about Jennifer Lopez came during an expansive interview with Pitchfork. While many people over the years have taken Carey's comments to be pure sass, the "Always Be My Baby" singer claims in this conversation that she was actually trying to be civil and kind to her fellow musician those years ago. Evidently, that wasn't how it was received by numerous people, who turned it into a meme for dismissing people.

It's hard to know for sure if Mariah Carey is telling the truth here or not, but it's pretty common for innocent comments to be taken wildly out of context. It wouldn't be the first time people on the Internet took what was meant to be inoffensive and turned it into something sneering. Alas, that might be the case here, based on what Carey is claiming in this recent interview from over Thanksgiving's festivities. You can never be too sure of anything, after all.

Admittedly, Mariah Carey is used to everything she says being dissected in one way or another. Rather than be exhausted by all the noise, the musician thinks it's best to tune a lot of things out. Because Carey believes that if you spend too much time obsessing over it, you can "drown in that."

Neither do we. Alas, that's probably the healthiest way to go. It's never good to be obsessed with what other people say about you, because you might find yourself too caught up in all the noise. There is a lot that is written and said about Mariah Carey, and she doesn't seem too interested in hearing it.

In the spirit of opening up, Mariah Carey recently admitted that she has bipolar disorder. Although she knew back in 2001, Carey didn't tell the public, because she claims she "didn't want to believe" it was true. It took her years of self-reflection before she came to terms with the diagnosis. Particularly with the new album currently available in stores, we should expect to hear even more from (and about) Mariah Carey in the next few weeks.

Well, it turns out that Mariah Carey couldn't stay away from televised singing competitions for long. A little over five years after ending her stint as a judge on Fox's American Idol, the megastar is headed to NBC's four-time Emmy Award-winning The Voice. But, instead of judging this time around, Carey will be lending her talents to the show as a key advisor to the contestants, beginning on October 29.

Mariah Carey is joining The Voice for the Season 15 Knockout Rounds, and, as such, she will be charged with mentoring the 32 artists who are still in the running on the show, along with coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton. During this round, each artist is paired against a teammate and tasked with choosing their own song to sing individually as their direct competition stands by and watches their performance. The winner of each separate Knockout Round will make it to the next phase of the competition, the Live Playoffs, and will come one step closer to making their dream of becoming a recording artist come true.

Because Mariah Carey has signed on as The Voice's Knockout Advisor (a title she probably really enjoys), this means she will be on hand to help each coach and every singer on their team prepare for the challenge of the Knockout Rounds. During the competition, however, only the coaches will be able to decide who moves on to the next round.

Obviously, Mariah Carey is a wonderful choice to help guide these artists in their journey on The Voice. Her five-octave vocal range and extreme songwriting and producing talent made her an almost instant hit, and a legend, all these years after she first hit the scene. Since making her debut on the music charts in 1990, Carey has gone on to become the top selling female artist of all time, with over a whopping 200 million albums sold across 14 releases and 18 Billboard Hot 100 number one singles (17 of which she wrote herself); more than any other solo artist in history.

And, of course, anyone with a storied musical career like Mariah Carey's is going to also be one of the most nominated and awarded artists the world has ever seen. Carey has won an astounding 344 awards from 497 nominations from a wide variety of musical organizations throughout the world, and among those wins are five Grammys, 21 American Music Awards, 12 BET Awards, 32 Billboard Music Awards and 21 World Music Awards. Carey received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August 2015, has had two Las Vegas residencies (#1 to Infinity from 2015-2017 and The Butterfly Returns from 2018-2019), and just announced her 15th studio album, Caution, which will be released on November 16, 2018.

While Carey hasn't spoken out just yet on what made her decide to take on the role of Knockout Advisor on this season of The Voice, something tells me she was interested in imparting her many years of singing, songwriting, music business and performance wisdom on those still looking for their big break in an industry that's often unbelievably difficult to break into. And, she was probably looking for a way to do that in an environment that would be gentler than the one she encountered during her time on American Idol, so, why not head to that show's main competitor?

When Mariah Carey signed on to judge on American Idol in Season 12, many fans likely hoped it would be the start of several seasons of her helping the singers there hone their craft, but the 2013 season of the hit turned out to be the only one for Carey, and a lot of that was likely due to her feud with co-judge Nicki Minaj. While still in the auditioning phase of that season, in the fall of 2012, a video leaked of Minaj unleashing a vicious tirade against Carey during the Charlotte, North Carolina auditions.

Some who watched the video even claimed that Minaj, while off camera, threatened to shoot Carey. While Minaj denied ever making such a threat, Carey went on record saying that she felt that American Idol quickly became an unsafe workplace for her and she even beefed up her personal security while working on the show.

In addition, a controversy erupted over whether or not the producers of American Idol leaked the video on purpose to help generate buzz, seeing as how the show was not as strong in the ratings as it had been in previous seasons, with the judging panel getting switched up on a more regular basis. Nick Cannon, who was married to Carey at the time, publicly stated that he felt this was how the video leaked, while those behind the show and Fox denied the allegations.

The battle between Carey and Minaj continued into 2013 when Carey noted, during an episode, that her fellow judge had never had a number one song on the US Billboard Hot 100. This led Minaj to take to Twitter and post a harsh rant, which labeled Carey as "bitter" and "insecure" among other unsavory things, and referred to a rumor that the producers were actually looking to bring Jennifer Lopez back in Season 13 in place of Carey.

Of course, Jennifer Lopez did, indeed, return for the final three seasons of American Idol on Fox, which seemed to work out just fine for Mariah Carey, who has been able to joke about her experience on the program in recent years. And, while the singer has made headlines for her relationship issues, personal problems and one...surprising New Year's Eve performance, Carey seems to be back to 100% throwing her talent into doing what she loves.

Hopefully, Mariah Carey's time on The Voice was more enjoyable (and fruitful for the contestants) than her time on American Idol. Mariah Carey has shared some new thoughts on her experience as a judge on American Idol again. This time she shared the positives to judging the singing competition on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The subject came up when Kimmel inquired as to whether it was true that Carey had advised revival judge Lionel Richie against doing the show when he was considering the job. Carey initially said that she should have, although she did not. Then, she decided to clarify, saying:

This is obviously not the first time Mariah Carey has spoken out about her time on American Idol. It has been four years since she described her experience working on the show in a no-holds-barred kind of way during a highly publicized interview. Carey's time on the show led to some very dramatic moments. So it is nice that she seems to be finding the silver lining in her time on American Idol. Carey and Nicki Minaj both left the show after starring on the show for a single season.

As many fans are likely to recall, Mariah Carey was one of the four judges on the twelfth season of the show. Carey was brought in to replace Jennifer Lopez. In Season 12, Carey starred as a judge alongside Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban. Carey has not been one to hold back about her experience working on the show, and nearly five years later, she still has some things to say about it. She did try to keep it positive though, and at least she will always have the memes.

If you are wondering if Mariah Carey is keeping up with the American Idol reboot, she indicated that she is not. She gave the impression that she did not know if Lionel Richie had gone through with doing the show, and Richie recently wrapped the first season of the revival. Carey is not the only former judge to leave the show in her rearview mirror. Simon Cowell recently shared he is not tuning in.

The pop legend revealed in an intimate conversation that although she was diagnosed back in 2001, Carey "didn't want to believe" it was true. It took her years of self-reflection before she came to terms with her mental health issues. Thankfully, after some time, Carey has sought treatment and is in a better place than before. Here's how Mariah explained it.

As she explained to People, Mariah Carey was first diagnosed after a mental and physical breakdown in 2001. But it wasn't until she experienced the "hardest couple of years I've been through," which included romantic woes and professional troubles, that the singer-songwriter finally decided to seek treatment. Even though she is easily among the most celebrated and successful singers of her time, Mariah Carey found herself struggling in silence during this time. Mariah is now in treatment and she is taking medication for Bipolar II disorder. It involves periods of depression as well as hypomania.

Thankfully, things are taking a turn for the better for Mariah Carey. She is currently in the studio working on her latest album, which is expected to arrive later this year. Carey also admits she is in "a really good place right now," one where she is comfortable revealing her struggles. Mariah hopes her story serves as a good example for her multitudes of fans, and she hopes shining a light on her struggles with bipolar disorder can become inspirational.

We're glad to see Mariah Carey is in a better place, and opening up about her mental health struggles. With so much negative stigma around mental health, perhaps Carey can use her platform to inform her audience and the general public.

One of the fun things about awards shows like the recent Golden Globes is seeing all the celebrities mingling together, something that only really happens at shows like that. Sometimes, however, this can apparently lead to minor clashes. Such was the case when pop star Mariah Carey apparently accidentally stole the seat of one Meryl Streep. There wasn't an actual clash, of course, because Meryl Streep is perfect and lovely, but hearing her tell the story is absolutely priceless. Check it out.

Meryl Streep, who was nominated for her role in Steven Spielberg's The Post, explained during her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that the incident took place when the cameras were coming back from a commercial break, forcing anybody who was standing up to simply grab whatever seat was at hand. For Mariah Carey, who performed the Golden Globe-nominated song "The Star" from the film of the same name, this meant taking a seat next to Steven Spielberg. When Streep returned to take her seat, she found the singer in her chair. Streep was cordial, though she joked that she held a bit of a grudge. There really is nothing like hearing Meryl Streep say the words...

Seating is one of those things that's actually quite important when it comes to awards shows. We've heard about the "seat fillers" who work the annual Academy Awards telecast who have the job of simply sitting down so that the camera doesn't show any empty seats in the auditorium. In the same vein, these shows also don't want to have people wandering around while the show is going on. Anybody who isn't actually in the theater when the camera comes on is usually locked out until the next break. Everybody else needs to take their seat, or barring that, any seat whatever.

If there was any fear that Meryl Streep was anything less than friendly, we have the other side of the interaction also speaking about it, and Mariah Carey confirms that the whole thing was just adorable. According to Carey's comments on Twitter, she spent too long mingling on the way back from the bathroom, which resulted in her having to grab the seat next to Steven Spielberg. When Meryl Streep approached later, Carey apologized for taking the seat, but Streep was perfectly nice about it, saying...

As it usually goes, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest had some truly brilliant year-ending moments, but out of all the night's talent, two classic performers really stood out as clear winners: pop queens Britney Spears and Mariah Carey, the latter of which was in rebound mode after last year's debacle. So the question is, who gave this year's best New Year's Eve performance? Let's discuss.

Mariah Carey

Going into the New Year's Eve festivities, the world had its eyes on Mariah Carey. The diva's performance last year was a disaster of epic proportions that seemingly set the tone for the rest of 2017 pop culture, so some joked that if Carey could turn things around with this year's performance, 2018 would be a good year for all. When the lights went up for the highly anticipated segment, Ryan Seacrest kicked it over to Carey, and she went straight into a performance of the time-honored hit "Vision of Love" while wrapped in a warm and cozy (and probably very expensive) white fur coat.

That first song went pretty well but despite New Year's Rockin' Eve's best efforts to better accommodate Mariah Carey this year, the singer claimed the producers forgot something, and in what will likely become the first major meme of 2018, Carey informed the audience that there was no hot tea for her to drink onstage, and that it was a "disaster." Carey then told everyone that it was fine and that she would be "like everybody else" in continuing on without hot tea. Carey indeed soldiered on for a choir-accompanied version of her hit "Hero," escaping the performance with no meaningful drama or screw ups. That much can be said for Britney Spears as well, but it does feel as though Carey should get points for sitting out in the freezing Times Square cold during her performance to silence her critics. And note that she did get her tea later.

While many eyes may have been on Mariah leading up to New Year's Rockin' Eve, there's no denying attention spans weren't completely locked in on one particular pop princess of the late '90s and '00s. With the end of 2017 came the end of Britney Spears' four-year Las Vegas residency, and she had Sin City rocking perhaps even more than Times Square. While Spears was performing all throughout the night for her Vegas audience, television viewers got to see her ring in 2018 with a rousing rendition of her hit "Work Bitch." In a word, it was "electric."

Britney Spears was zooming through choreography that lesser performers would pass out attempting, and she kept that energy going well past midnight. Rockin New Year's Rockin Eve came back to her for an alternate take on her hit "Toxic." Once again clad in yet another glamorous costume, Spears gave another amazing stage show performance that nothing short of flawless. Of course, she's had loads of time to perfect that routine, so it should come as no surprise that she flowed through that song like water from a faucet. Additionally, when a singer is dancing that hard on stage, one always has to assume her performance isn't as "live," as we would like to believe, but Spears went on record earlier in the year with Rolling Stone saying that while she does use a background vocal track for big dance moments, she actually is singing the whole time. Whether or not she's to be believed is up to the viewer.

With New Year's Eve right around the corner, ABC is primed to give Mariah Carey another chance at helping ring in the new year after a failed attempt at last year's festivities. While some may think Carey should be scratched from the lineup of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest after her performance on stage last year, co-host of the event Jenny McCarthy believes she deserves a second chance:

Mariah Carey will be taking the stage during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest to perform a medley of her past hits live on television. Jenny McCarthy adds to Variety that the theme of "Unity," doesn't just apply to Carey, but for a whole nation that she said has been riddled with lots of negativity through the past year. In Times Square, Carey's performance will be a "unified," effort, as other musical performances on the program will include Sugarland, Camila Cabello, and Nick Jonas.

Of course, all eyes will be on Mariah Carey specifically, as her New Year's flub last year was the most talked about performance of the night, and became the first viral pop culture moment of the year. For those that don't remember, Carey took the stage, and when the music started, she wasn't singing. Instead, Carey walked the stage and informed the audience that there were issues with the sound and she was trying to be a "good sport," about it:

Mariah Carey's camp would later state that her earpiece was having issues, which would make it hard to perform. Carey's team went on to say these were issues that were known earlier in the day, and that they were all assured it would be fixed by the time the show went live later that night. When the lights went up and the cameras were rolling, the earpiece apparently still wasn't working, which led Carey to rip them out and attempt to sing without. As the video shows, that didn't work out so well, so hopefully this year everything is set up for Carey to succeed in her shot at redemption.

As one of pop music's most iconic divas, Mariah Carey doesn't get to experience a lot of her life outside the public eye, with fans and paparazzi constantly aiming to see what the Grammy winner is doing next. Well, she'll soon directly show her fans what they weren't seeing a lot of those years, as she will executive produce a drama TV series based on her life and experiences. And no need to worry about this project looking less spectacular that Carey herself, since Starz is the channel putting it into development.

Mariah Carey has been making herself quite comfortable on television in recent years, most transparently through the reality series Mariah's World. Apparently she got the TV bug something fiercely, as she's now giving her blessing and treasured memories to this still-untitled Starz drama, which is set to take place in New York City in 1986. The story will center on a bi-racial 16-year-old girl who lived through a difficult youth, with her dreams of becoming a bestselling musician fueling her survival and then some.

The drama project will be written by Nina Colman, who was most recently known for writing and producing Date My Dad, the comedy serving as the TV return for 7th Heaven star Barry Watson. Colman will also serve as the showrunner. Another famous face set up as executive producer is Brett Ratner, director of such stunt-heavy films as Rush Hour and Hercules.

The outspoken and trouble-causing singer certainly has a lot of life moments that are deserving of being put on film, and some that obviously aren't. Hopefully she doesn't tell too many tall tales when offering up her big life moments to Nina Colman for the dramatization.

Last seen on the small screen (in a fictional sense) for Fox's third season of Empire, while her non-episodic efforts have been of the holiday TV movie variety. Not to mention Mariah's World, that is. On the big screen, Mariah made a highly publicized cameo in The House, and she'll soon be seen in Girls Trip.

At this point, it might be Christmas before we hear more hardcore facts about Mariah Carey's in-development TV show at Starz, but you can bet we'll start singing like a stool pigeon when other news comes out. In the wake of The House's busted bet of a first weekend, stories have come out about another bad hand dealt the way of the film. As it turns out, despite signing singing sensation Mariah Carey for a cameo, the film didn't end up getting a frame of film in edgewise when it came to their originally planned appearance. However, upon closer examination, the film does contain footage that features the much maligned chanteuse. But much like Meryl Streep in Baby Driver, it's not exactly a full cameo, as Carey can only be seen on the posters in the illegally operated casino.

While no scenes were shot with Mariah Carey, despite her being on set for a day's worth of scheduling, there are still plenty of shots with Carey's likeness plastered near the theater in the casino. In fact, many of the shots in the film's third act turn with actual cameo star Jeremy Renner happen to have this poster featured clear as day. We noticed this because earlier in the film, a different act was pictured in the lightbox where the theater's poster would go. And it's not like they're trying to hide it either, as the poster is pretty clearly depicted in the film.

So with the little information we know, how would Mariah Carey fit into The House, and was it really a huge blow to the story to not have her? Well, to answer the first question, we think we know how the gag with Carey would have started. Towards the beginning of the film, we see Rory Scovel's Joe enjoying a rather subpar comic by his lonesome. Now since these were early days, it's not like the casino would have been able to draw top tier talent. But shifting later in the film, when the fortunes of The House start to turn for the better and they start investing in improvements, the obvious twist would have been that they could afford better acts.

Enter Mariah Carey, who would have performed at the casino, up until she more than likely was taken out in the battle between Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler's suburban parents and Jeremy Renner's mob. We already know that her part called for her to be shot down in the casino in The House, and this is the most obvious set-up that would have allowed for this scene to happen. Of course, it also helps that during the remaining sequence of events between all parties involved, the poster for Carey's act is at its most front and center in the entire film.

Which leaves us with the second question to be answered, and we can safely say that no, The House didn't lose anything by not including a Mariah Carey cameo. While they may have lost a day of shooting, and a celebrity cameo that they probably already paid for, the film didn't lose any sort of steam without that one scene of comedy. In fact, it's probably better that Carey wasn't in the movie to begin with, as it would have proved extremely distracting throughout the film's actual course of events. Kind of like a poster for an act that never ends up showing up in the film, or is never mentioned by name in the first place.

Don't let the lack of Mariah Carey stop you from seeing The House, if you're really that interested. The film's in theaters now, and it could use some audience members to boost its profile.

Will Ferrell seems like the kind of guy who, once you've got him talking, the man's an open book. And open he did in a recent interview pertaining to his new film, The House. Specifically, Ferrell addressed the swirling stories of diva behavior from Mariah Carey leading to a planned cameo being scrapped from the final film. We'll dive into the details in a little, but first you really have to see Will explain the situation as professionally (and hysterically) as possible.

So as we heard in a previous interview, Mariah Carey had agreed to sing one of her songs in the illegal casino operated by Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler's characters in The House, only for her character to be shot and killed in the film. Well, Will Ferrell confirmed not only that stories of the inappropriate behavior are absolutely true, but that Carey had shown up four hours late for her one day of shooting. So on top of causing a shitstorm for the folks who cleared the music for the film, the cast and crew were put through hell because the day's shooting schedule was basically wasted for a scene that never happened.

Going back to Will Ferrell, he's really a professional act if he can admit the problems The House was already reported to have with Carey's cameo, and still maintain a level head. While he's been known to play maniacs in his comedy career, when the chips are down, the man really does keep his head on that metaphorical swivel he mentioned while playing Anchorman's Ron Burgundy. Though, one also might chalk that up to the liquid refreshment he was enjoying on the set of Watch What Happens Live.

That's not to say that anyone who's spoken out in more accusatory tones is any lesser than Will Ferrell, as fellow comedian and all around teddy bear Cedric Yarborough called Mariah Carey out on her behavior recently, and the way she disrespected the cast and crew of The House. While we here at CinemaBlend are not passing judgement on anyone involved in this fiasco, we do side with the argument that if you've already agreed to a cameo, right down to the song you're supposed to sing, it is wrong to show up late on the day of filming, only to try and work your way out of the agreement.

If only we all had the patience of Will Ferrell. The man is truly a standard to aspire to when it comes to personhood, as he not only makes many of the world's citizens laugh, but he's also a role model for the type of person we should all strive to be. Although, now that we think about it, we'd love to hear what Amy Poehler's side of the story is, as she most assuredly has some snark on standby for her not so flattering behavior.

Making a comedy isn't always fun. Some of the angriest on-set experiences stem from collaborations where funny people are trying to find their way. And sometimes, celebrities brought in for laughs ruin the endeavor with their allegedly diva-esque antics. Take Mariah Carey, for example. The singer/actress/mega-star was hired to play a casino act in the Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler comedy, The House. Only, according to a first-hand account by co-star Cedric Yarbrough, Carey sabotaged the joke and, in general, made everyone suffer. The comedian recalls:

The way that Cedric Yarbrough describes it, in a now-deleted Facebook post, the team behind The House -- a comedy about suburban parents who turn their house into a casino -- came up with the idea of having Mariah Carey appear as an act in the lounge. The star came to set, then made everyone wait for hours for her to finally come to the proper set In the meantime, the team cooked up a stunt for Carey, and had her body double pull the stunt off. When they asked Carey to mirror the stunt double's work, she refused, saying:

Cedric Yarbrough says he heard that exact statement. And this was after the cast and crew had waited for hours for Mariah Carey to even come to the set. And then she refused to play along with the gag. In addition, Yarbrough says that Mariah then requested such bizarre props as a large fan to blow her hair around, and a camera that would shoot her from above. She has a history with music videos, sure. But this isn't a music video. It's not even a Mariah Carey movie! Co-star Rob Huebel started the ball rolling on this Mariah bashing regarding The House. I wonder if more stories will come out now.

I also wonder what demands Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler had on set? Knowing the good-natured comedians, I'm guessing they were nothing like this.

Kudos to Cedric Yarbrough, whose credits include the TV series Speechless and Bojack Horseman, for calling out such behavior. He uses it as a learning lesson for up-and-coming talents of how NOT to behave on set. But he also includes the lesson for "old heads" like himself, saying it's important to be professional on a film set at all times, because it's everyone else's time that you are wasting.

We have seen The House, which opens in theaters on June 30. Mariah Carey's bit has been completely scrubbed from the comedy. Her loss.

Although Mariah Carey is primarily famous as a singer, she's no stranger to acting. Since 1999, she's appeared in a scattering of movies and TV shows, and she recently participated in the Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell-led comedy The House to cameo as herself. But according to comedian Rob Huebel, who appears in the movie as a gambler, Carey was extremely difficult to work with on set, and supposedly one of the ways she left a less-than-stellar impression was by not wanting to sing a song the way she was hired to do so. Huebel explained:

During his appearance on Entertainment Radio, Rob Huebel talked about how Mariah Carey was brought on to The House for reshoots, and "it did not go well." Along with Carey's unusual suggestion on what should happen with her fictional self, Huebel also heard that she showed up four hours late on the day she was shooting and wanted her trailer filled with white roses and stuffed white lambs. When asked if she'll appear in The House's final cut, Huebel responded that if we see her, "they had to work for it."

Assuming Rob Huebel's intel is legit, Mariah Carey's requests fall into the stereotypical nightmare scenario of high-profile performers being over demanding. Like Rob Huebel noted in the interview, white roses and stuffed lambs are not the easiest things to find, let alone enough of them to fill a trailer. But even weirder is Carey's suggestion about her going Wonder Woman on those bullets. Even though this is a comedy, that sounds way too absurd for what The House is trying to do. Not to mention that Carey offering comedy advice to Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell is delightfully ridiculous.

It's far from uncommon for one part of popular culture to influence another. Knowing that, we all should have seen this coming. One of Mariah Carey's most popular songs is set to inspire its own movie. And since no music has quite the global appeal that Christmas tunes have, it probably comes as no surprise that the song in question is Carey's seasonal hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You."

While the title sounds like its a setup for one of those Christmas-themed romantic comedies that inundate basic cable in December, that's not quite what we have here. According to The Hollywood Reporter, All I Want For Christmas Is You will be animated home entertainment release that will follow a young girl (named Mariah) as she attempts to convince her parents to get her a puppy for Christmas. In order to prove she can take care of a dog Mariah will begin to pet-sit a difficult dog named Jack, who causes all sorts of problems for Mariah's family and their preparations for the holiday. The singer will narrate the film though other voice actors will play all the characters.

In point of fact, the movie version of All I Want For Christmas Is You is based on Mariah Carey's children's book of the same name, so this is actually a movie based on a book which is based on a song.

While the idea of making a movie based on little more than a song title may seem a little thin, it's far from unusual, especially with Christmas music. White Christmas was made in 1954 and was named after one of the most popular songs ever written. The popular story is that the plan to make a movie with that title came long before any actual idea for a story. Compared to that, All I Want For Christmas Is You seems to be far more ready to be a movie.

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" has become a standard part of the holiday season and while it's impossible to say at this point if the new animated film will do the same, we certainly can't discount it. When Christmas comes people tend to retreat into nostalgia, which how certain songs and movies become classics. If the movie is able to follow in the footsteps of the song then Mariah Carey could be on the verge of becoming the queen of Christmas.

It must be nice to be the granddaughter of one of the richest men in the world --- or to be the favorite singer of the granddaughter of one of the richest men in the world. Mariah Carey and Elton John reportedly got paid well over a normal concert fee to perform at the wedding of a Russian billionaire's granddaughter this weekend.

Apparently, Mariah Carey and Elton John made millions for performing some of their hits at a lavish wedding reception over the weekend --- about $4.2 million to be precise, as TMZ has reported. That's certainly more than a wedding band usually makes! The multi-million dollar payout came out of the wallet of Valery Kogan, a Russian billionaire who owns the largest airport in Eastern Europe. According to the Daily Mail, Kogan paid Carey a little over $3 million to fly over to London and perform at his granddaughter's wedding. The publication goes on to claim that since Elton John doesn't perform for less than a million pounds ($1.2 million), Kogan's bill for the two famous singers must have been at least $4.2 million.

As video footage from TMZ shows, Mariah Carey performed a soulful rendition of her song "It's Like That," and Elton John gave a stirring performance of "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues," which was reportedly part of a 12-song set for the legendary British musician. Carey also dedicated her song "We Belong Together" to the newlyweds.

It must have been an incredible experience for 19-year-old Irene Kogan, who had just said "I do" to her groom Daniel Kevey and then was treated to concert-length performances from Mariah Carey and Elton John. Reportedly, the two superstars were actually headlining the reception, which went on for seven hours and featured a bunch of other performers.

Hit-making DJ Mark Ronson was also there to get the crowd on their feet with by spinning his smash record "Uptown Funk." It's doubtful that Ronson made quite as much money from his set as Mariah and Elton did, but it seems like he had a great time --- the DJ posted to Instagram that Kogan's wedding was the best ever.
