Jimmy Kimmel has found himself in hot water over a monologue again. This week he took aim at Spencer Pratt, the reality-star-turned politician who made a bid for Mayor of Los Angeles this year. Pratt’s been in the news for claiming he’d leave LA if he lost, and lost he did. Nithya Raman secured the second Democratic spot and will face Karen Bass in the election. Kimmel then took him to task on late night, and now even Meghan McCain is weighing in. Here’s what’s happening in Tinseltown.

First, for context, you need to know that Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue earlier this week took aim at Pratt’s claims he’d leave LA if he lost the race. Here’s what Kimmel said specifically on late night:

Adding insult, Kimmel even rented the reality star a U-haul to get the heck out of dodge, which some took offense too, given Pratt was running on a platform asking for change after he lost everything in the LA fires last year.

In this case, though, I don’t think Spencer Pratt needed her help.

The former The Hills star ran on a Republican platform that focused on issues like crime and emergency management, the latter he felt deeply tied to given he and wife Heidi Montag lost their home in the Pacific Palisades fires in 2025. When Kimmel made his comments on ABC’s late night program, he didn’t sit on his hindquarters. Instead, he responded on social media, bringing up the fire and the loss he’d faced:

Jimmy Kimmel has been more and more in the spotlight over political takes, particularly after his comments on the assassination of Charlie Kirk led to a brief suspension by ABC and a bunch of discourse over what free speech means in a broadcast context. He's caught President Donald Trump's ire in several posts, including one where Trump called him "no way funny as attested in the television ratings." (Editor Note: Kimmel is way up in the ratings since Colbert's cancelation.)

Though Kimmel is not the only late night host to earn this sort of attention, as NBC's Seth Meyers and more have taken flak from our President. Now, it seems he's caught the attention of other outspoken public figures like Meghan McCain. We'll have to wait and see if this story continues or if Pratt's own comeback is the end of the matter.

Graham received blowback for his comments, and Meghan McCain – whose late father, Sen. John McCain knew Graham – was among those to criticize the sentiments. Underwood referenced Meghan on air, saying:

Whether McCain – who, like Underwood, is a Republican – was actually watching the broadcast live or not is unclear. However, she apparently caught wind of Underwood’s comments somehow and felt compelled to respond.

McCain made her statements on X, where she acknowledged that she’d known Sen. Graham since she was a child. From there, she said she was “imploring anyone who will listen in the Trump administration to stop sending this man out as a surrogate.” McCain stated that Graham was “scaring people and doing damage to whatever message” the administration was trying to get across about Iran. Upon hearing Underwood’s approval of her take, McCain shared this message with EW:

However, ABC executives, reportedly disputed such claims and accused McCain of instigating drama.

Still, on rare occasions, McCain has shown love to some of her now-former co-stars despite the fact that they don’t see eye to eye. That doesn’t mean McCain is keen on returning to The View, of course. Nevertheless, those who relish moments of mutual admiration on the show may appreciate this recent development involving McCain and Underwood.

Megyn Kelly took to social media on Super Bowl Sunday and the following day to share negative takes on Bad Bunny's performance, such as those calling him out for singing in Spanish, and she didn't refrain from taking a shot at McCain in the process, reposting the Arizona native's message and tacking her own onto it, saying:

Unsurprisingly, that led to a lot of her followers following suit and dunking on McCain, Bad Bunny and whatever else happened to be stuck in their craw at the time. The sentiment "everything in life doesn’t have to be ruined with politics" does not seem to be a sentiment that social media users can adhere to while conscious.

Though he publicly agreed with Meghan McCain, Piers Morgan invited Megyn Kelly onto his show to share her thoughts on the halftime show.

Just in the past two months or so, Kelly has unloaded negative opinions about Bruce Willis and her former NBC colleague Al Roker, and she called out late night talk show hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers, not long after getting dragged into Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's lawsuit controversy, at which point she called Lively a "narcissistic, liar, bully, brat."

We all know that The View co-hosts can throw some shade, but even since walking away from the table in 2021, Meghan McCain hasn’t had any trouble speaking her mind. This weekend she hit up social media to share her thoughts on current events like watching the Super Bowl halftime show and the recent daytime talk show cancellations, the latter of which included what appears to be a pretty brutal dig at Kelly Clarkson and Sherri Shepherd.

Last week news broke that both The Kelly Clarkson Show and Sherri would not return following the end of their current seasons on the 2026 TV schedule. Meghan McCain seemed to have a strong opinion about the reason for that, as she wrote (via EW) in a since-deleted post on X:

Meghan McCain didn’t mention either Kelly Clarkson or Sherri Shepherd by name, but given that this post came just days after these two major cancellations, it seems fairly simple to connect the dots. She went on to shout out another former talk show host whose style McCain had more of an appreciation for, writing:

It’s strange that Meghan McCain would fire such shots at Kelly Clarkson, who is generally loved for her relatability, but it seems the daughter of late Sen. John McCain prefers talk show hosts who push the envelope, perhaps challenging their guests a little more than the American Idol singer.

Meanwhile, Meghan McCain has had issues with Sherri Shepherd — who also previously co-hosted The View — in the past, which possibly makes the shade easier to explain. Back in 2022, Shepherd trash-talked McCain on Watch What Happens Live, and McCain responded by calling out the “toxic mean girl” reputation on ABC’s award-winning daytime series.

Sherri Shepherd was also the host chosen to replace Wendy Williams when health issues prompted her own series cancellation. Is it possible Kelly Clarkson just got caught in the crosshairs of an old beef? That would be easier to believe if McCain’s post had mentioned just one cancellation and not said, “all these daytime talk shows.”

Kelly Clarkson made the announcement on February 2, saying that stepping away from The Kelly Clarkson Show after seven seasons “will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.” Brandon Blackstock, her ex-husband and the father of her two children, died in August after a long battle with cancer.

News of Sherri’s cancellation following Season 4, meanwhile, came just hours later from Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, the co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, who said:

Sherri Shepherd spoke out the following day to thank fans for their support, saying that she had COVID and would “address all of the news that has come out” when she was feeling better.

Over four years after her firing from The Mandalorian — and the wrongful termination lawsuit against Disney that followed — Gina Carano is headed back to TV. Many are thrilled about this news, and that includes some of Carano’s former co-stars and other celebrities, as people including Meghan McCain and Deadpool actress Brianna Hildebrand took to social media to show their excitement and support for the actress.

Gina Carano will star in the Las Vegas-set Logan Reign, in which her character is a legal assistant by day, vigilante crime fighter by night. She seems excited for the opportunity to return to the small screen, saying she’s “bringing every ounce of who I am as an actress” to the project, and it sounds like others are just as pumped. Carano shared the casting announcement to Instagram, on which Meghan McCain commented:

The former co-host of The View wasn’t the only one excited to see Gina Carano’s next TV role following her portrayal of Cara Dune on the Star Wars series The Mandalorian (available to stream with a Disney+ subscription). Orange Is the New Black’s Taryn Manning also weighed in, writing:

There aren’t too many details available about Logan Reign yet, including which network or streaming service will house it, but don't expect it to make its premiere on the 2025 TV schedule. The series is being developed by Straightwire Entertainment Group, in a partnership with Get Out producers Yvette Yates Redick and Shaun Redick.

Gina Carano was fired from Disney and Lucasfilm in 2021 after social media activity that included claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, questioning COVID-19 protocols and comparing the political climate to Nazi Germany. The actress argued in her wrongful termination and discrimination lawsuit that her co-star Pedro Pascal did not face such consequences for his own political posts.

Disney and Lucasfilm settled the lawsuit with Gina Carano last month. Details of the agreement weren’t revealed, but it sounds like the door might be open for the actress to return in an upcoming Star Wars shows and movie, as a Disney spokesperson said in a statement afterward that they “look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

While Gina Carano was able to land a couple of movie roles after her 2021 firing, she has been open about struggling to find work, saying it was like she was “sitting here in a desert” all alone. We’ll have to see if she ever reprises her role as Cara Dune or finds another role within the House of Mouse. Until then, though, we’ll definitely have our eyes on The Mandalorian and Grogu movie that’s set for release on the 2026 movie calendar.

So, when the former vice president appeared on the talk show, he comforted her and discussed his history with glioblastoma as well as his friendship with John McCain:

As you saw, Biden spoke highly of Meghan’s father and how he inspired his son, saying John “gave Beau courage.” Then, he opened up about how much his son admired the former senator's “courage.” He also explained the severity of glioblastoma, saying:

The former president talked about different medical breakthroughs regarding this medical condition, as well as the foundation he works with. On top of that, he comforted Meghan by reiterating the close relationship he shared with her father, even when they disagreed:

How People Have Reacted To This Clip Of Joe Biden And Meghan McCain

It’s been years since Meghan McCain left The View, however, her turbulent relationship with the daytime talk show is still discussed frequently. She will also criticize The View’s co-hosts when something happens on the show that she disagrees with. That history, as well as her feelings about Biden’s politics, have led to mixed reactions to this clip.

However, many have remained positive and emotional, considering Biden’s current battle with prostate cancer is reminiscent of John McCain’s, as @allenanalysis pointed out:

Earlier in May, news broke that Biden had “an aggressive form of prostate cancer,” per NYT, and it had spread to his bones. Thinking about that and what John McCain went through, this video left many emotional, as they commented:

Such is the case right now following the cancer diagnosis of former President Joe Biden, as the political veteran is receiving nothing but support from the family of one of his political rivals.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that former President Biden has been diagnosed with what is being called a particularly aggressive form of prostate cancer. Former co-host of The View, and daughter of Senator John McCain, Meghan McCain took to Twitter to give nothing but support to Biden and his family, saying…

Generally speaking, Meghan McCain is not one to avoid speaking strong opinions. Her time on The View saw her frequently in verbal battles with the other, more liberal co-hosts of the show. The conflict was arguably one of the reasons that many tuned in, but it made McCain frequently unpopular with the audience. It ultimately led McCain to leave the show. Since leaving the show, McCain has remained an outspoken critic.

Meghan McCain certainly has an understanding of how difficult cancer treatment can be for a family. In August 2018, her father, Senator John McCain, passed away from brain cancer. One of his pallbearers at his funeral was then Vice President Joe Biden.

Joe Biden and John McCain were both long term U.S. Senators, with Biden’s career beginning in 1972 and McCain joining the Senate in 1987 after a stint in the House. The pair were among the most visible in their respective parties. However, despite political differences, they became friends.

In 2008, the politics between the two were at their most contentious, with McCain as the republican nominee and Biden as the Vice Presidential pick for nominee Barack Obama. If there were grudges to be held between the two families, it would be completely understandable, but that’s clearly not the case here.

Dealing with cancer is certainly difficult for any family. It's something that tends to touch all families eventually, and we've seen many public figures go through public cancer battles.

Well wishes for Joe Biden have been pouring in from both sides of the political aisle. While it’s unclear exactly what the condition of the former President is, we've seen many public figures recover from prostate cancer. However, this cancer has apparently metastasized to the bone, and is being called particularly aggressive, so the outlook is unclear. Still, one assumes Biden is getting some of the best medical care available.

A lot of co-hosts have come and gone in the 28 years that Joy Behar has been on The View, and you don’t have to watch the ABC staple every day on the 2025 TV schedule to know that some of the show’s strong personalities have clashed. Behar may get along with the women who sit alongside her at the table now, but she hinted that hasn’t always been the case.

In a February episode of The View that re-aired recently (no, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar haven’t been fired; the show just took a brief hiatus), the co-hosts were discussing the female friendship storyline from The White Lotus Season 3. They discussed whether or not growing up with siblings made one more likely to always feel in competition with those around them. Behar said as an only child, she doesn’t recognize “toxic” behavior toward her, telling her colleagues:

This prompted Alyssa Farah Griffin — one of the conservative voices added to The View in 2022, who has bumped heads with Joy Behar a number of times — to protest that “no one at this table has been mean to you,” to which Behar replied:

She makes a good point, at least as far as Alyssa Farah Griffin is concerned, because there were definitely moments in the 25 years prior to Griffin and Ana Navarro officially joining the cast of co-hosts that tensions rose between Behar and someone else sitting at the table.

The co-hosts didn’t linger on the topic, so no names were dropped as to who Joy Behar might have been thinking of. My mind, however, immediately went to Meghan McCain, who continues to have beef with the Emmy-winning daytime talk show hosts years after she left The View.

Of course, Meghan McCain isn’t the only person whose personality or politics didn’t mesh with Joy Behar’s over the years — and I’m not just talking about co-hosts.

While it didn’t happen around the table at The View, Kid Rock famously called the co-host a “bitch” on Fox News in 2018. Behar also apparently had a “personal” issue with the Jersey Shore cast members and allegedly “cornered” Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi in a bathroom and told her, “You’re not Italian.” When the cast appeared on The View again years later, Behar allegedly refused to take part in the segment.

And who can forget The View’s Liam Neeson disaster? The actor may have been what some considered a little mean after the fact (and understandably so), after his appearance on The View revolved only around Joy Behar’s longtime crush on him. The Taken actor said he “wasn’t impressed” with the co-hosts’ behavior, and the segment was “just a bit embarrassing.”

We’ll have to see if Joy Behar ever expounds on who she envisions when she talks about people being mean to her on The View, but until then, you can continue to watch the co-hosts at 11 a.m. ET weekdays on ABC.

The 67th annual Grammy Awards telecast was one for the ages — as covered with our Grammys live-blog coverage — especially for showstopping performances and inspiring acceptance speeches. But before the ceremony started, right around when Jaden Smith was first spotted with a house on his head, Kanye West and Bianca Censori turned heads with possibly the most revealing red carpet walk of any that'll hit the 2025 TV schedule, which sparked some heated words from Meghan McCain.

Meghan McCain Posts And Deletes Kanye West Complaint

While she wasn't on-hand at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for the ceremony itself, Meghan McCain appeared to be checking out some version of the pre-show red carpet arrivals. Soon after Ye appeared on the scene with Censori, whose black coat was soon removed to reveal her nearly nude look, the former View star took to social media with the following post:

Quite the first stone to cast out there, though McCain is known for being outspoken and free with her opinions. Even just to catalogue all the comments she's made slamming The View and her thoughts about its co-hosts, it would be an undertaking. So it's perhaps not so surprising that the conservative politico chastised the rapper and his wife for posing for photos dressed as such:

In this case, however, the politico pundit actually backtracked on her harsh words for the rapper, deleting the post not too long after it went up. To be sure, that message wasn't replaced by one that championed Censori's dress or called West an upstanding citizen.

Why Meghan McCain Reportedly Deleted The Post

By all means, McCain could have removed the post from existence and advised her team to ignore anyone else's attempts to ask about it. But she instead doubled down on the criticisms, or at least a publicist did. According to EW, when contacted and asked why the post was deleted, the author and blogger's rep apparently sent the following as a response:

It's possible Meghan McCain regretted making the "victim" and "hostage" comments about Bianca Censori, considering only the Kanye diss was repeated in the response.

One can only wonder what the occasional Fox News and CNN talking-head would have to say about that lip-reader's translation of West's comments to Censori before she dropped her coat. Or what she would say about Benson Boone's crotch adjustment. There's always next year, I guess.

Meghan McCain has never been one to hold back when she feels strongly about something. Fans of The View (and her fellow co-hosts) learned that during her four-season stint that featured heated spats with Joy Behar and negative feelings that continue to this day. Recently, however, it’s not The View that’s drawing her ire, but rather Meghan Markle. Following the release of the trailer for the Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming series With Love, Meghan (premiering on the 2025 TV schedule January 15 for those with a Netflix subscription), McCain slammed the estranged Royal Family member for being “utterly tone deaf.”

With Love, Meghan is part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s multiyear deal with Netflix and is billed as inspirational lifestyle programming. The trailer shows the duchess cooking, gardening, arranging flowers and beekeeping, all while laughing with friends. In a post on X (Twitter), Meghan McCain takes aim at Markle and the show, saying that audiences want to see raw and real content. She wrote:

Meghan McCain said she used to be a “Meghan Markle supporter,” but her opinion changed when Markle and Prince Harry stepped away from their royal duties. The political author suggested With Love, Meghan is inauthentic, and she had a different idea of the kind of show that she’d prefer to see in the current climate. Think what you will about the upcoming lifestyle series, but fans also had plenty to say about the smoke and mirrors of social media, as Meghan Markle made her first post in five years. In the video, the mom of two runs happily down a beach before using her finger to write “2025” in the wet sand. Eagle-eyed viewers, however, noticed that in the video, she ran right past another “2025” written in the sand, presumably from a previous take, thus proving Markle’s actions weren’t as spontaneous as she’d probably like us to think.

Retakes and edits like that are actually pretty common for anyone posting social media content, but the flub doesn’t exactly help the Suits actress against Meghan McCain’s accusations of being “highly curated.”

Meghan McCain has made no secret of how she feels about The View, on which she was a co-host for four years. As the only conservative on the show, Meghan McCain felt like it was an “extremely isolating” situation, where her colleagues were “uncomfortable” around her and negative stories about her were reportedly leaked to the press. She was involved in heated spats with Joy Behar, and has called out what she says is “toxic mean girl” behavior amongst the co-hosts.

There might be a stereotypical image of celebrities and how they behave in people’s minds, but the truth is there’s no standard. We’re lucky enough to interview a few dozen here at CinemaBlend each month, and some of them come off like normal people you’d stand in line next to at Panda Express and some of them very much do not. Apparently it’s the same way on The View too, as longtime host Meghan McCain opened up about her time interacting with celebrities there and one who came with an entourage so big she still thinks about it.

The political commentator was on her podcast Citizen McCain this past week when the subject of Jennifer Lopez came up. She said she was reluctant to talk about her because she feels people are so negative about her online that it feels like bullying but eventually admitted she found her “deeply unpleasant” when she visited the show. She also said she had the single biggest entourage of anyone she ever interacted with. Here’s a portion of her quote… 

During Meghan McCain’s four years or so on the show, a lot of celebrities passed through The View. From politicians to athletes to movie stars to authors to practically any other type of famous person you can think of, the ladies on the daytime talker almost certainly interviewed many examples from each category. So, to stand out as the single person was the biggest entourage is quite an accomplishment in excess, especially amidst all the other drama that routinely goes on at The View.

That being said, Jennifer Lopez has never been shy about excess. She once bought a house with 24 bathrooms. So far this year, she’s released an album, a documentary about that album, a musical adaptation of the album featuring various celebrities, a Netflix movie and also hosted Saturday Night Live. She rarely does anything half-heartedly and without fanfare, which, sure, is often a source of ridicule and negativity for her but is also partly the reason why she’s one of the most famous people in the world. She’s that stereotypical version of a Hollywood celebrity in all the best and worst ways, and that’s really appealing to some people and really off-putting to others.

As per usual, Lopez has been the subject of near-constant attention from the press over the past few months as rumors about her relationship with husband Ben Affleck continue to swirl. Maybe they’re on their way to a divorce. Maybe they’re just in the midst of a rough patch. Or maybe they’re totally fine. I really have no idea, but whatever happens, I do know J Lo will come out the other side with a smile on her face and an unnecessary large entourage and I wouldn’t want it any other way. 

The View has welcomed quite a few co-hosts since its debut and, since concluding their respective tenures, many have had varied thoughts on the series and their colleagues. Political pundit Meghan McCain, who was on the show for four seasons, has been one of the alums that’s spoken out the most frequently. She hasn’t minced words when speaking about her experiences on the ABC mainstay, and others have shared less-than-positive thoughts as well (which surprises Sunny Hostin). On that note, at least one former panelist doesn’t seem to share their feelings, as series OG Star Jones offered up a different take. 

What Did Star Jones Say About The View?

The 62-year-old media personality holds the distinction of being one of the first ladies to ever sit at the table on The View in 1997. Some may still remember when she, series creator Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira and Debbie Matenopoulos convened for that inaugural season. Star Jones eventually left the show in 2006 and has since moved onto other professional endeavors. However, it sounds like the daytime series still holds a special place in her heart. While discussing her current show, Divorce Court, at the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards, she confirmed that she continues to watch the ABC program today. Not only that, but she says she talks to the current panelists “all the time.” While discussing her love for them, she said: 

While speaking to ET, the Celebrity Apprentice alum also shared her sweet remembrances of Barbara Walters, who passed away at 93 in 2022. Star Jones was among those to pay tribute to Walters upon her death, and the sentiments she shared during this latest interview were also sweet. She went on to share some of the advice that her “fairy godmother” bestowed upon her: 

Those are certainly wise words from one of the most astute journalists and commentators the world has ever known. Overall, it’s sweet that the former Insider alum still thinks fondly of her time on The View, and her thoughts are refreshing to hear amongst those that have been shared by others.

What Have Meghan McCain And Others Said About Their Stints On The View?

Following her departure from the show in 2021, Meghan McCain shared details about her time on ABC’s long-running chatfest. She stated her belief that the show has a “toxic work environment” and said that it felt “extremely isolating” to be the show’s lone conservative pundit. Aside from claiming that people were “uncomfortable” around her, she also said that part of her stint on the show was particularly challenging because her late father, U.S. Senator John McCain, was battling brain cancer at the time. Earlier this year, Meghan also declared that there’s “not a chance in hell” she’d return to the program.

Candace Cameron Bure, who was a co-host on the show from 2015 to 2016, also has mixed feelings about her tenure. While sharing thoughts on returning as a permanent host following Meghan McCain’s tenure, Bure summed up her stint as being “was exciting, challenging, informative, emotional, and stressful.” The Fuller House actress added that it “always feels like family” whenever she appears as a guest on the show but, in another interview, she also stated that she has “PTSD” from the show due to the sometimes stressful nature of its production. 

Everyone has their own distinct experiences on a show and, based on the comments shared by those who’ve worked on this particular show, that’s definitely been the case. And, of course, Star Jones is absolutely entitled to the positive memories that she has, while Meghan McCain, Candace Cameron Bure and others are entitled to their more complex working experiences.

Even nearly 30 years after its debut, The View remains a hit talk show that continues to draw in viewers. As popular as it is, though, it does have its share of detractors, and that group includes some of the show’s former hosts. Meghan McCain and Rosie O’Donnell are just a couple of the notable series alums who’ve shared not-so-glowing thoughts on their stints with the daytime staple. One of the current panelists, Sunny Hostin, is aware of the critiques that some of her former colleagues have shared. And, believe it or not, she’s always surprised whenever people have negative thoughts to share.

What Exactly Did Sunny Hostin Have To Say About Backlash Towards The View?

Sunny Hostin is certainly one of the show’s veterans, given that she’s been a co-host since 2016. While it definitely seems like emotions can run high amid the broadcasts at times, the lawyer and author seems to enjoy the gig. She discussed her work on the ABC show during an interview with Us Weekly, and it was during the chat that negative comments from series alums came up. After revealing that she’s usually taken aback whenever someone shares a negative comment about the program, she explained the “special” reason for that:

The connection that the ladies of The View share is special, and it’s arguably somewhat multifaceted. While their affiliation with the show comes with a lifelong link, it can be accompanied by blowback at times due to whatever might be said on the air. For example, Sunny Hostin caught flak for blaming farts on Whoopi Goldberg. However, I suppose you could just chalk something like that up to a sister-like bond.

Considering the former CNN contributor’s thoughts on the negative comments from her peers, some may be wondering what exactly has been said. Well, a number of those sentiments have been well documented.

Meghan McCain And More Haven’t Minced Words When Discussing The Show

Of all the series’ former contributors, Meghan McCain has arguably been the most vocal about her stint. The author and podcaster, who held down co-hosting duties from 2017 to 2021, doesn’t look back on her time working at The View with warm nostalgia. McCain shared candid details after her departure, saying that she felt “isolated” due to her conservative political views. She also asserted her belief that the amount of rumors that would leak about her were incomparable to the number that would surround her co-stars. At one point, the daughter of the late U.S. Senator John McCain said that she was “losing [her] mind” at the time due to personal matters she was going through while on the chatfest. All in all, McCain has no interest in returning to the program.

Rosie O’Donnell, as previously mentioned, has also discussed this topic. She herself had two separate stints on the show, one from 2006 to 2007 and the other from 2014 to 2015. In 2023, while reflecting on her feud with Elisabeth Hasselbeck amid production, O’Donnell confirmed that she wouldn’t do a show like it again. Part of her reasoning is that she didn’t have the creative power she possessed while making her own eponymous talk show. Yet she said she had no regrets over having booked the daytime program in the first place.

The feelings of her peers aside, it sounds like Sunny Hostin isn’t paying too much attention, even though she did decry Meghan McCain’s critiques in 2023. Considering how gung ho she seems to be, it’ll be intriguing to see just how long she chooses to remain with the entertainment and politics-fueled TV show and how she further handles any backlash.

ABC’s The View has been on the air for almost 27 years and, in that time, the show has seen various pundits come and go as part of its panel. Some attracted more attention than others, and it could be argued that Meghan McCain was one who made headlines often. The author and political pundit left the show in 2021 after four seasons. Since then, McCain has called out the show, expressing her displeasure with aspects of the production. She most recently said there’s “not a chance in hell” she’d be asked to return to the daytime program while also explaining where she stands with some series veterans.

The news contributor has never been one to mince words and didn’t do that while speaking with Page Six about the notion of rejoining the Alphabet Network’s long-running talk show. She stated the belief that the producers wouldn’t be too keen on having her back in the studio. In addition to saying that there’s no “chance in hell” that she’d be invited back, she also explained that she wouldn’t accept an offer even if it was extended. She attributed that to the current state of her personal life: 

Around her exit from the show in 2021, Meghan McCain explained that she was leaving in order to devote time to motherhood and cited the COVID pandemic for helping her gain that perspective. By October of that year, during a wide-ranging interview, McCain shared various candid details about her tenure on the series. She said that her experience was “extremely isolating because of [her] political ideology,” as she was the lone conservative panelist. She also said that her colleagues felt “uncomfortable” around her. Additionally, McCain made claims about how frequently negative stories about her were leaked to the press compared to her co-stars.

So, as a whole, it seems the media personality is indeed done with The View, from which viewers began to refer to her as a “spoiled baby.” (She told Page Six that that particular moniker is wearing off now.) However, just because she wants nothing to do with the show, that doesn’t mean she’s cut ties with others who were on the show at different times.

Meghan McCain Reveals Which View Alums She’s Close With

It goes without saying that Meghan McCain had complex working relationships with some of the other personalities on the ABC show. For example, McCain had spats with Joy Behar and called out a “toxic mean girl nastiness that’s allegedly present on set. Despite all of that, she has shared softer sentiments about some of her former co-workers, like when she paid tribute to Whoopi Goldberg, who she didn’t always agree with. While McCain told Page Six that she doesn’t talk to anyone that she shared the table with, she does still have friends that work at the show. However, she opted not to name them and explained why: 

She did, however, proceed to name-drop some other notable women who’ve been on The View. One of them was Rosie O’Donnell, who is about to reunite with Meghan McCain. McCain also mentioned two others: 

As evidenced by the comments she shared, it seems Meghan McCain is content with continuing her work as a writer and the host of the new podcast Citizen McCain. She may not want to return to the daytime staple, but it sounds like she’s still appreciative of the connections she was able to make thanks to her time there.

Those who gravitate towards talk shows amid the sea of content found on the 2024 TV schedule should know that The View airs at 11 a.m. ET weekly from Monday to Friday on ABC.

The Drew Barrymore Show delivered one of its most prestigious episodes recently, as the titular host welcomed Vice President Kamala Harris for an interview rather unlike what audiences might expect from a televised sit-down with any VP. But while some viewers may have enjoyed it, former The View co-host Meghan McCain had largely negative things to say about it, and she took aim with the kind of vitriol that she usually saves for commentary about her former ABC gig and her co-hosts there.

Meghan McCain had plenty of talk show experience herself by the time she weighed in on Drew Barrymore's recent interview with Kamala Harris, although she rarely has anything good to say about her time on The View from 2017-2021. She now shares her opinions on her Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat podcast, and she had a lot to say about the Vice President's chat with the 50 First Dates star-turned-talk show host.

After stating that she's a fan of Barrymore's movies, McCain went on to share that she wasn't a fan of how the host expressed herself to Harris, Barrymore's body language, or the "Momala" phrase. The VP shared that "Momala" is what her stepkids call her, and Barrymore used it herself when saying that she needs to be "Momala of the world." McCain said on her podcast:

Meghan McCain advised listeners to watch the Drew Barrymore Show interview for themselves (and the clip is available online), opining that the Vice President looked uncomfortable and suggesting that the audience was being directed to applaud off-camera, citing her own TV experience for why.

The View alum shared her thoughts on why Kamala Harris has been doing interviews, and noted that the VP is first in line for the Presidency if "God forbid, something happens to President Biden." McCain also reminded listeners that Harris is "a highly-educated woman" as a former prosecutor and former senator, which led to this statement:

At the time of writing, the interview clip has been accumulated 64k views on YouTube. Vice President Harris posted a clip from the interview on Instagram with the caption stating that the "true measure of strength is based on who you lift up, not who you beat down." The Instagram account for The Drew Barrymore Show also posted some behind-the-scenes footage from Harris' time on set, including a hug between the host and the U.S. Vice President:

All in all, it's not surprising that Meghan McCain uses her podcast platform to share her opinions in pretty strong terms. She hasn't minced words about her time on The View, as well as topics ranging from Bradley Cooper's Maestro to Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about her famous exes. As for The Drew Barrymore Show, you can check your local listings for when to tune in. Barrymore was in hot water in late 2023 when news broke that her show would return to production before the resolution of the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike, but she ultimately backtracked and returned to the airwaves later.

Bradley Cooper's transformative turn as Leonard Bernstein in the Golden Globe-nominated Maestro has attracted both admirers and naysayers. Bernstein's own children occupy the former category and, apparently, The View's Meghan McCain in the latter.

The former co-host of the ABC talk show took to X (formerly known as Twitter) with her own critique of the biographical drama, which largely centers on the complicated marriage between the legendary conductor-composer and his wife Felicia Montealegre (played in the film by Carey Mulligan). Despite the considerable awards buzz swirling around the drama, McCain's write-up was not a rave review, calling the drama "so disappointing": 

Some of McCain's 788,000-plus followers responded to the political commentator's tweet, which was posted on Wednesday, December 27. Some users agreed that they, too, found the biopic "very dull" and "turned it off 15 minutes," while others spoke supportively of Cooper and Co.'s efforts, saying the "beautiful film" was "deserving of the buzz." 

One called out the "Jewface" controversy that has plagued the production, after it became known that Cooper would be utilizing a prosthetic nose in his portrayal of the Jewish-American Bernstein. (The actor-filmmaker has since responded to the allegations.) 

Several followers offered up other recent movie titles for McCain to watch in Maestro's place, including the "great" sci-fi flick Godzilla Minus One, the George Clooney-directed period piece The Boys in the Boat, and the 2023 musical adaptation of The Color Purple. 

McCain is regularly opinionated over on Twitter, where she recently blasted Jennifer Garner for letting her daughter wear a crewneck sweater with a watermelon print on it, allegedly a show of support for Palestine. On January 4, the television personality wrote that she "expected more" from the 13 Going on 30 star because "she is from West Virginia" and dubbed the actress one of the "lunatic Hollywood people."

Meghan had more positive things to say about comedian-actor Katt Williams, posting on Friday, January 5 that his recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast—during which Williams called out several of his fellow comics, including Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey, Ricky Smiley and Faizon Love—was "one of the most riveting interviews" she had seen in years. 

However, despite what McCain has to say about Maestro, it's looking like entertainment award bodies seemingly don't agree with the former The View star. The 2023 film has garnered four nominations at this Sunday's Golden Globes, including Best Actor and Best Director for Cooper, Best Actress for Mulligan, and Best Motion Picture – Drama. And it's likely that it will repeat that nomination success when the 96th annual Academy Award nods are announced on January 23, 2024.

Meghan McCain has never been shy about her negative experience working on The View, especially after she left the daytime talk show in 2021. However, following Ana Navarro’s comments that were seemingly aimed at her former colleague, the podcast host has not held back in responding and making her thoughts about the show very clear. 

In conversation with Michael Malice, McCain was asked about The View and her role in it. This podcast was recorded on the same day Ana Navarro compared her former colleague to Hunter Biden during an episode that aired on December 14 on the 2023 TV schedule. The two went on about how different she is from Joe Biden’s son, and she made it clear she’s never done anything illegal. Going on to talk about The View overall, McCain said on “Your Welcome” with Michael Malice: 

Right after Navarro – whom McCain said she has a “long history” with – made this comment that compared the former The View panelist to Hunter Biden, she took to X to refute the claims made on the show. Like the comments above, she said she doesn’t understand why her former co-workers “slander” her on “an almost weekly basis.” She went on to say she’s been off the show for years, and they need to “move on.” During the episode of the podcast, she shared a similar message, saying: 

This isn’t the first time Navarro’s comments have lead to McCain speaking about her experience on The View. She recently said she “felt like [she] was losing [her] mind” when she was there. She also said she felt like the work environment was “hostile.” This tone was the same on the podcast with Malice, as she said:

Malice and McCain then talked about her role in the show as the only conservative woman on the panel. She continued to say that when she worked on The View, she would have to fight for certain news stories to be the topic of the day, and she said she thinks the other panelists would avoid stories that didn’t shine a bright light on Democrats.

Meghan McCain has always been candid about The View and her experience, however, Ana Navarro’s comments seemed to open a floodgate. As this situation develops, we’ll be sure to keep you posted. Meghan McCain is continuing to fire back at Ana Navarro over her comments comparing Hunter Biden to other people in Washington using their parent’s names to “influence peddle” including “people sitting at this table.” Right after Navarro made this comment, the former co-host fired back, and now, she’s opening up about these claims further by referencing the women's “long history.”

During the December 14 episode of The View on the 2023 TV schedule, Ana Navarro compared Hunter Biden to other children of politicians. Many assumed she was referencing Meghan McCain, who left The View in 2021. On her podcast, Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat, she took shots at Ana Navarro, noting the “long history” the two have. She said: 

Right after Navarro’s comment went viral, McCain slammed her, saying “move on, I have.” Reiterating the points she made in her initial response, the daughter of the late Senator John McCain continued to fire back at her former colleague’s comment on her podcast:

Navarro’s initial comment came about a week after Biden was charged with “three counts each of evasion of a tax assessment, failure to file and pay taxes, and filing a false or fraudulent tax return,” per NYT. 

As seen in her above comments, Meghan McCain took offense to the comparison, and she made it clear in her latest comments that she is “nothing like Hunter Biden.” She said she is “the exception” to the discourse about nepo babies in politics. Continuing to speak about the situation, she said: 

As this discourse has taken off, McCain has also been open about how hard it was for her to work on The View. A few days ago, she said during that time she felt like “I was losing my mind.” The podcast host explained that while she was on the show her dad was dying and she was “having fertility issues.” On top of that, she felt like working at The View was “really hostile.” 

To close out the conversation on this topic, McCain said she just wants to know when they’ll stop referencing her on The View. Since leaving the show, she has been candid about her exit and backstage problems, noting that her time there felt "extremely isolating" because she was the only conservative woman on the show -- a point she also made in this latest podcast. 

Based on Meghan McCain’s statements, she made it clear that she does not want to be brought up on the show, and she was bothered by Ana Navarro’s comment about Hunter Biden.

It’s no secret now that Meghan McCain parted ways with The View after four years on bad terms. The political author has shared her opinion of ABC’s popular daytime talk show several times over the years for the toxic work environment she experienced and the way the co-hosts have continued to “demonize her” since she left. After tensions were raised again regarding a comment on the show from Ana Navarro, McCain gave more insight into her experience on The View.

Meghan McCain slammed Ana Navarro’s recent musing that The View co-hosts have used their relatives’ names to “influence-peddle.” While Navarro didn’t name any names, the daughter of the late U.S. Sen. John McCain took the comment as a direct attack against her, even threatening legal action. In an episode of The Janice Dean Podcast released December 17, McCain spoke more about how her circumstances impacted her negative experience on The View. She said: 

In addition to dealing with what was happening with her father, she also had her own health to think about. She said: 

Meghan McCain has spoken out over the past couple of years about what she endured, as she was at the time the only conservative voice among The View’s co-hosts. She has spoken about rumors being leaked to the media about her, and since she left she said she is continuously bashed by her former colleagues. She continued: 

Meghan McCain said she just wants to move on, which is exactly what she said in response to Ana Navarro’s “influence-peddle” comments, accusing those on The View of continuing to “slander me on an almost weekly basis.”

Quite a while has passed since Meghan McCain announced she’d be leaving The View after four years as co-host, which was soon followed by many reports of behind-the-scenes turmoil, with McCain calling out her former colleagues for bullying behavior and more. Yet to see her latest comments about the long-running ABC daytime series for Ana Navarro’s “influence-peddle” comments, one might think the feuding was still as fresh as daisies. 

Ana Navarro's Initial Comments

On the December 14 edition of The View, the panel was in the midst of a discussion about the impeachment inquiry that was authorized regarding President Joe Biden, and Navarro shared the following assertion:

Navarro didn't specifically name anyone when referring to the act of using more powerful people's names to boost one's own cred, and theoretically could have been referring to a host of women who sat at that table at one time or another in the past 26 years, from Rosie O'Donnell to Elisabeth Hasselbeck to Raven-Symoné to Jenny McCarthy and so on. 

It's definitely a lengthy list. But Meghan McCain doesn't seem to believe that Navarro was talking about anyone else. 

How Meghan McCain Responded

Before all that much time had passed following that segment on The View, Meghan McCain took to X to defend herself and call out Ana Navarro's comments for not being authentic. 

The daughter of the late former U.S. Senator John McCain claimed to not be guilty of latching onto others' names for her own benefit with global enemies, and shared her not-exactly-glowing feelings about being compared to the POTUS' son. 

McCain, who took a gig writing for Daily Mail after her stint on The View, then hinted that she may be looking to take this issue to court for possible libel, saying:

The fact that no one said Meghan McCain's name out loud, and without any visual connections, will probably make it difficult to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ana Navarro had anyone specific in mind when speaking her mind. But that's for lawyers and judges to decide. 

For what it's worth, Meghan McCain has spoken in the past about Sunny Hostin being the one View host she still respects, so would she have jumped to conclusions so quickly had Hostin been the one to make the inciting comments? Hard to say. But there's clearly still a lot of foul feelings bubbling beneath the surface on both sides of the stage.

Does it get more pure-bred Hollywood than Gwyneth Paltrow? Not only is the actress, producer and business woman the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and filmmaker Bruce Paltrow, she’s also an Oscar winner who famously dated some major heartthrobs before tying the knot with now-husband and producer, Brad Falchuk. Following Paltrow recently playing “Marry, Fuck, Kill” with past partners during a podcast appearance, former The View host Meghan McCain penned a column criticising the actress’ words for being “TMI.” 

When Paltrow was a guest this week on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Goop business owner spoke to her experience in the bedroom with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck while playing “Marry, Fuck, Kill” with the pair and her ex-husband Chris Martin as options. Paltrow chose the Coldplay frontman, with whom she famously made “consciously uncoupled” mainstream, as her “marry” because he gave her their two children. When it came to choosing between the other two, she admitted Affleck was “technically excellent,” while Pitt was “major chemistry, love of your life”. That left Pitt in the “fuck” category and Affleck for dead. Meghan McCain had some things to say about the podcast segment: 

In a column McCain wrote for the Daily Mail, the American TV personality said that she thinks Gwyneth Paltrow’s “vagina candle monologues are too much” and criticized the actress and the podcast for going there during the interview. Paltrow dated Brad Pitt back in 1995 after they met on the set of Se7en before breaking up in 1997. The actress has previously shared that she has kept a friendship with Pitt since. 

After Pitt, Paltrow dated Ben Affleck on and off from 1997 to 2000. Amidst Affleck’s recent marriage to Jennifer Lopez, Paltrow has wrote that she’s “very happy” for the couple. As McCain continued: 

Meghan McCain also criticized other celebrities like Rachel Bilson for being open about sex on her podcast Broad Ideas, Meghan Trainor for getting real about the topic too on the High Low With EmRata, along with calling out TV hosts and couples Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, as well as with George Stephanopolous and Ali Wentworth, for discussing intimate issues publicly as well. 

The TV personality cleared up that she believes herself to be “sex-positive,” but behind closed doors. She also went on to share that she is proud of herself for not subjecting her kids to “TMI details about their mom and dad” and has set an example of “modesty.” But McCain doesn’t just think it’s people like Paltrow who are promoting sex publicly; she went on to call American culture as a whole “pornified” too. 

It’s no secret that Meghan McCain still harbors negative feelings about her time on The View, and following some troublesome comments about Whoopi Goldberg from fellow former co-host Rosie O’Donnell, McCain was inspired to speak out again in a column for the Daily Mail. Current co-host Sunny Hostin was asked about that recent drama, and while each of the ladies has said there’s no bad blood between them, Hostin slipped in a little dig at her former colleague, as she defended the ABC talk show.

Meghan McCain has detailed multiple issues she had during the four years she served as a co-host on The View, including the comment from Joy Behar that ultimately led to her exit. She said the Emmy-winning daytime TV show was full of ”toxic mean girl” nastiness and recently backed up Rosie O’Donnell’s claims that people on the show had minimized coverage of important issues to protect their own interests. When Sunny Hostin was asked about the remarks on Watch What Happens Live, she took a sip from her martini before responding: 

Sunny Hostin only addressed the fan’s assertion that Meghan McCain had said The View keeps getting worse, rather than any of the specific accusations made in the column — which Hostin said she hadn’t read. But she followed up the ratings talk with some subtle shade, telling Andy Cohen:

Despite the jab at Meghan McCain’s expense, Sunny Hostin maintains that the two are friends, but the same likely can’t be said for other members of The View’s panel. Whoopi Goldberg — who was known to have some pretty cringe-worthy exchanges with McCain on the show — spoke out last year about how The View has changed since McCain announced she was leaving. She said there have been fewer “backstage problems,” and the atmosphere is “calmer” and “better.”

ABC’s The View has welcomed a number of notable stars to the iconic desk over the years and, after their tenures are done, some occasionally reflect on them. Those sentiments can certainly vary and, this past week, former panelist Rosie O’Donnell shared sentiments regarding former co-star Whoopi Goldberg. O’Donnell, who had two stints on the show between 2006 and 2015, claimed that Goldberg tried to prevent Bill Cosby’s rape allegations from being discussed on air. Goldberg herself has yet to respond to the claims, yet fellow series vet Meghan McCain is now backing O’Donnell up.

Bill Cosby’s sexual assault allegations received much media attention when they began to surface in the 2010s. However, during an appearance on Now What? With Brooke Shields, Rosie O’Donnell suggested that Whoopi Goldberg was able to use her behind-the-scenes influence to minimize coverage on The View. Now a columnist for The Daily Mail, Meghan McCain addressed the comments in a piece that was recently published: 

It should be made clear that that media personality didn’t actually co-sign on coverage of Bill Cosby’s case specifically being diminished. What she more so seems to be referring to is the notion that some topics in general were allegedly just left off the docket in general. She later mentioned that Whoopi Goldberg did eventually weigh in once evidence started mounting against the embattled comic. However, the Fox News contributor still takes issue with one aspect of this purported situation: 

Meghan McCain hasn’t held back on discussing The View since she left the show back in 2021. In more recent instances, McCain’s new gig has provided her with a forum in which she can break down her thoughts. She also gave a lengthy interview later that same year, in which she dropped alleged details on her exit and backstage drama. ABC later clapped back at McCain’s claim that her co-stars created a toxic workplace environment. 

Though she hasn’t been quite as vocal, Rosie O’Donnell has discussed her gripes with the daytime staple. During that same interview with Brooke Shields, she discussed other topics, including her past feud with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

In her column, Meghan McCain acknowledged that she and Rosie O’Donnell “probably don't agree on much” but are “in sync” in this case. They’ve also both asserted that they would not return to The View if asked. With this new alleged information regarding Whoopi Goldberg now floating around, you can’t help but wonder if either she or ABC will feel compelled to respond. 

When it comes to King Charles' coronation the primary point of interest seems to be surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attendance. Folks have weighed in on how the couple reportedly leaking information to the press has impacted their relationship with the king, and how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might be closer to “exile” than reconciliation, among many other things. Now that the couple’s plans for the ceremony have been revealed, Meghan McCain is weighing in on it, and she’s “not buying” why Markle has decided to stay in the United States. 

There’s been a lot of talk about Prince Harry’s decision to attend his father’s coronation, and Markle’s choice to stay in California. McCain weighed in on the subject in a column for The Daily Mail, noting why she doesn’t believe the Duchess’s reasoning for staying home. She wrote:

It’s been reported that Meghan Markle will be staying in California with her children because Archie’s birthday is also on May 6, according to the 2023 TV schedule this is also the day of King Charles' coronation. This reasoning is not something McCain seems to believe as she wrote:

The former The View panelist held no bars while talking about Meghan Markle and her decision to not attend the coronation, writing:

As reports have come out regarding how Prince Harry and Markle would be treated if they both attended the coronation, it was seemingly clear that they would not be treated the same as senior members of the Royal Family, and they would have specific instructions about what not to do. These alleged plans included the couple not being in the procession, and early reports explained that they also would not be standing on the balcony with King Charles, or sitting with the Royal Family.

McCain’s column posited that Markle would not like this, and the couple does not want to make amends with the Royal Family. She explained:

McCain ended the article reiterating her point that she believes Markle is seeking attention, and would not want to attend the coronation because she would be among the “D-List attendees.” She also expressed that the Duchess of Sussex’s decision to not go to the ceremony gives “Americans even more reason” to not like the two Royal Family members. 

This is all one person’s opinion, and as of now, the reason for Markle’s absence is that she will be spending her time in California for her son’s birthday. If any other official reasons for Prince Harry’s attendance and his wife’s absence are reported we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

The A-lister is now reacting to the flurry of responses – some of which came from fellow celebrities like Meghan McCain and Bethenny Frankel.

The Oscar winner recently appeared on Dr. Will Cole’s The Art of Being Well podcast, during which she broke down her habits to the physician. Her comments seemed to give many the impression that she wasn’t eating enough on a daily basis. Days after the interview went live, Gwyneth Paltrow addressed the matter during a Q&A on her Instagram stories. She explained that she’s been working with Cole for some time now and that he’s been helping her form a nutrition approach that’s viable as she deals with chronic ailments:

In past interviews, the star has been candid about how COVID has impacted her life, including how she gained weight amid lockdown like a number of others. Her comments suggest that this approach to her diet has been beneficial for her amid her specific situation. On that note, the actress (who filled in for Julia Roberts in Shakespeare in Love) stressed that she didn’t mean to list these facts in order to give advice. What Did Gwyneth Paltrow Actually Say About Her Diet Plan And How Have People Reacted?

In the viral TikTok clip from the interview, the Marvel star explained that in the morning, she aims to “have some things that won't spike my blood sugar,” which makes coffee a go-to for her. She also said that she prefers to have “soup for lunch,” specifically “bone broth.” And when it comes to dinner, she aims to eat “according to Paleo” so, as a result, she consumes “lots of vegetables” that help “to support my detox.”

In addition to her eating habits, Gwyneth Paltrow also touched on the way in which she stays active during the day. She apparently participates in an “hour of movement” on the daily and also spends 30 minutes in an infrared sauna. All of these sentiments seemed to draw concern from commentators. After Paltrow was called out, even a dietician weighed in, saying that her regimen is “actually not that healthy-sounding at all.” Former The View host Meghan McCain also didn’t mince words when discussing the situation in a column for DailyMail.com:

There are definitely varied ways in which people choose to approach their health and choose eating habits. And in all honesty, some may be a bit more unusual than others. But at the end of the day, a person has the freedom to choose how they want to stay healthy. Gwyneth Paltrow has made her position clear, and it’s likely that she’s going to stick to it.

Weekday mornings on ABC will likely never be completely peaceful and free from strife, but it seems clear that The View has been at the center of fewer “backstage troubles” headlines as of late. Many factors could play into that, but it’s likely that Meghan McCain’s 2021 departure is responsible as anything else, given how often she was involved in the allegations being thrown around during her four-year tenure. Whoopi Goldberg herself has come out and said things have indeed been a bit less stressful in the last year on The Voice’s set. 

Given the fact that Goldberg and McCain were known to go at it on The View every so often, it’s perhaps not so shocking that the Star Trek vet hasn’t spent the past year mourning the conservative co-host’s exit. When asked how things have been going on the chat show, Goldberg told Page Six: 

Ever the comedian — at least outside of pop culture racial bias and other hot button issues — Whoopi Goldberg opined that The View feels more relaxed now without the ever-present potential for sparks to fly behind the scenes. Which isn’t to say that all of the show’s feuding ties back to Meghan McCain, since that’s certainly not the case. But there’s no doubt less of an ominous feeling when it comes to things going haywire with the newest full-time co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. 

Goldberg even alluded to The View’s fraught history in pointing out (in the vaguest of terms) why McCain’s absence has had a positive impact. 

Even if Whoopi Goldberg's career only consisted of moderting the hectic discussions on The View, it'd still be understandable why the gig can be so tiring. But she's been as busy as ever outside of the chat show scene, from reprising her Star Trek role for Picard to bringing an evolved Sister Delores back for Sister Act 3 to joining the cast of Neil Gaiman’s upcoming Netflix series Anansi Boys. Not to mention the fact that she was being interviewed for the New York Film Festival premiere of her latest feature, the drama Till, a film that inspired one critic to incorrectly assume that Goldberg was wearing a fat suit for her performance, a detail she was quick to correct on The View itself.

But despite the on-air spats and comments made in interviews and memoirs, Goldberg says that antagonistic energy didn't actually carry on after the cameras stopped rolling. In her words:

Beyond sharing some respectful words about Sunny Hostin, Meghan McCain hasn't shared very many positive thoughts about her time on The View, so it probably goes without saying that she's happier with the way things are going now.

Over the years, The View has welcomed a wide array of panelists, who’ve varied in terms of popularity. Meghan McCain is arguably one of the polarizing personalities that the long-running talk show has ever featured. The media pundit received much backlash during her co-hosting stint and on occasion, she still receives critiques today. To that point, fellow View alum Sherri Shepherd threw a little trash talk her way just this week. McCain does seem to understand why the media personality would throw shade but, at the same time, she slammed their former TV show for having a “toxic mean girl” sort of nastiness. 

Sherri Shepherd made comments about Meghan McCain during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live. While speaking with host Andy Cohen, she stated that she keeps in touch with pretty much every host of The View, except for McCain. Shepherd also referred to the Daily Mail columnist as the most “disappointing guest” to appear during her own tenure on the chat show. Shortly after that interview, Cohen caught up with McCain on his Sirius XM show, where she explained why the comments about staying in touch don’t bother her. She also shared her take on why Shepherd shared those sentiments:

The Daytime Emmy winner does indeed have a new talk show on the way, one that serves as a replacement for The Wendy Williams Show. So the host has been making the rounds as of late, promoting her show and explaining how it will differ from Williams’ and other programs. With the press tour in mind, Meghan McCain seems to think that her fellow View alum is simply trying to drum up buzz. During the same interview, she went on to claim that the star’s actions line up with the mentality that’s allegedly present on the ABC show:

Meghan McCain has been very candid about her experiences on The View, from opening up about being booed to admitting that she didn’t always see eye-to-eye with Whoopi Goldberg and others. The daughter of the late U.S. Senator John McCain joined the show in 2017 and made her highly publicized exit in 2021. McCain subsequently revealed candid details about her View experience and exit, including a comment made by co-host Joy Behar that ultimately contributed to her decision to depart the program. 

So if there’s anything we can gather from Meghan McCain’s comments, it’s that she isn’t really close to Sherri Shepherd. And of course, it’s only become clearer that McCain doesn’t have much love for the highly-watched show that she co-hosted for four years.

When Meghan McCain ultimately quit ABC’s The View, she was in a period of transition in her personal life. The TV personality had just become a mom for the first time, and she was due back at work at The View while she was still trying to figure out what her changed life would look like. Yet when she came back, her co-star on the series Joy Behar was reportedly not happy to see her. According to McCain, she wasn’t subtle about it either. 

Megan McCain has been off of television since last summer, but she’s still made public appearances since then, recently appearing on The Commentary Magazine Podcast. She opened up about the “lack of nuance” in mainstream media in a candid interview touching on her The View experience, but also recalled exactly what the straw was that made her want to leave the daytime TV show. She said she was off on maternity leave and enjoying her life for a time, and on her first day back an interaction with Joy Behar left a sour taste in her mouth. She said:

This is actually a publicly documented experience. When Meghan McCain returned from maternity leave on The View, she and Joy Behar got into a spat during an episode that was publicized at the time. During the conversation, which happened to be about whether or not there should be more than two political parties, Meghan McCain joked, ‘You missed me so much Joy.” Behar then deadpanned:

As part of the new interview, McCain also opened up about another comment made on The View "on air, on camera" about how "the only thing I would ever breastfeed is a cactus." She says this was after she said she'd suffered miscarriages, which her co-hosts allegedly knew about. 

What Else Meghan McCain Has Said About Leaving The View

The above incident occurred in January of 2021, six months before MCCain ultimately announced her exit from the show. When she did ultimately leave, Meghan McCain noted a changing world due to COVID and motherhood as reasons behind her exit. She did not call out Joy Behar’s comment as she did here, instead saying: 

Over the last year, The View has continued to maintain a conservative slot on the panel of hosts. However, until recently no replacement for Meghan McCain had been announced. Instead, the show only began really starting to push for a permanent The View replacement early last month, with Elisabeth Hasselbeck landing the gig after previously being fired from the show. During her first episode this week, abortion and other heated topics were discussed. 

For her part, Meghan McCain has been open about feeling like she worked in a toxic space and that she had trouble being "produced" by someone who didn't get her or her beliefs. To note, ABC executives have alleged The View issues were instigated by the former co-host herself. Yet the former TV personality notes that her time on the show was still notable for myriad reasons, including The View's ratings. 

We'll have to see what's next for Meghan McCain, but the show has continued trucking on without her. It's been in hot water recently too, after View co-hosts were sent a cease and desist letter over comments made on the air. No one would accuse the BTS workings on this show of being boring. 

The View is a show with an ever-changing lineup of panelists, though some of them make more waves while they are on the air than others. In recent years, Megan McCain was a high-profile personality on the daytime TV series until around this time last year, when the conservative host explained why she would be leaving The View after roughly four years. In the time since, the show has pulled a bit of a Jeopardy with the slot, trying out a rotating myriad of hosts to fill the conservative position. 

After Meghan McCain’s exit, The View tried on a varying list of guest hosts to fill her slot, starting with names like Mia Love, Gretchen Carlson, Eboni K. Williams, S.E. Cupp, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Mary Katherine Ham, Cameran Eubanks, Tara Setmayer and Carly Fiorina early on. Now, however, after The View hit its 25th anniversary on the air, the show is apparently looking for a more permanent replacement with a conservative bent – and soon. 

An insider close to the production notes the current season of The View is set to end on August 5, and if all goes according to plan, fans should learn about the new permanent host before then. That insider noted to the NY Post: 

Insofar as the current crop of guest hosts goes, two have been filling the conservative seat more and more often on The View in recent months. This includes the aforementioned Alyssa Farah Griffin and Tara Setmayer. The former name was a communications director for Donald Trump at one point. The latter also worked as a communications director, but for the GOP, as well as a former political commentator at places like CNN and ABC News. Interestingly, Setmayer was a conservative critic of Trump during his tenure as President, whereas Griffin worked for him but later resigned from her role and has been critical of Trump in the time since.  

The 26th season won’t pick up until after Labor Day, but if this timeline is followed to a tee – which obviously isn’t confirmed at this point – we should have a brand new host filling out the panel more permanently. If the rest of the ladies stick around, that person will join Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sarah Haines for Season 26. 

The news comes after Meghan McCain made waves during her tenure on The View, ultimately even departing after the rumor mill indicated she and Whoopi Goldberg allegedly could not get along. McCain later spoke out to say the show had “demonized” her due to her political idealogy during her time on air. The View has tried to keep at least one personality with more conservative views during its run, though original host Debbie Matenopoulos has said the show was never supposed to "be political."

Interestingly, another former host, Meredith Vieira, just opened up about her tenure on the show, which lasted for nearly a decade between 1997 and 2006. That host, however, has made it very clear she would never return to the series, saying “I kind of did my time” in relation to the show. Clearly, while some former personalities seem happy to have moved on, there are new names willing to give the daytime talk show a shot, and we’ll just have to wait and see who fills that final chair when the new season gets rolling. 

Meghan McCain has not shied away from talking about her time on The View or sharing her opinions about the good, bad and ugly that she witnessed and experienced on the hit ABC daytime talk show. Admittedly there’s a lot more of the bad and ugly coming out of her stories, as following her exit from the show in July 2021, she called it a “toxic work environment” and said she felt “isolated” as the only conservative voice on the show. There is one bright spot, however, and despite being demonized by other people, one current co-host still has McCain’s utmost respect. 

Sunny Hostin, who joined The View in 2016, a year before Meghan McCain came on full time, still keeps in touch with her former co-worker, and in fact McCain had only glowing things to say about Hostin when she spoke on the Reality with The King podcast: 

Meghan McCain had some memorable on-air spats, particularly with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. In late 2019, a clip from The View went viral when Goldberg snapped at McCain to “stop talking right now” during a conversation about Donald Trump’s impeachment proceedings. An equally cringe-worthy moment happened in early 2021 when McCain’s return from maternity leave was marred by a spat with Behar, who told McCain, “I did not miss you.” It got so bad that ABC News President Kim Godwin intervened, saying the attacks had become personal, rather than sticking to the topics at hand.

Those kinds of issues didn’t linger between Sunny Hostin and the oldest daughter of the late Sen. John McCain. In fact, Meghan McCain called her former colleague “one of the greatest TV presences in all of television,” and said she thinks Hostin should host her own show. Of all the people McCain worked with, she said Hostin was the most politically savvy:

That’s definitely some high praise, and it’s nice that the former co-host was able to salvage at least one good relationship from her four years on the popular ABC show. Back in February, Meghan McCain weighed in another The View controversy, in which Whoopi Goldberg was suspended after making controversial comments about the Holocaust. She said she wasn’t calling for Goldberg to be fired, but she wanted to point out the double standard that existed when it came to the show’s liberal and conservative-leaning pundits.

Former The View co-host Meghan McCain is known for sharing controversial opinions, ranging from concerning the recent comments from her former View co-host Whoopi Goldberg to bashing the seeming “wokeness” of the And Just Like That revival series. Her latest talking point, though, might not be so provocative to some Bravo fan circles when it comes to getting “justice” for Erika Jayne after the recent Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion.

For context, the third and final reunion special focused heavily on Jen Shah’s fraud and money laundering charges. Not only was Shah herself questioned in-depth by host Andy Cohen, but so too was her husband Sharrieff “Coach” Shah. Namely, Cohen asked if the college football coach ever questioned where his wifey’s fruitful money flow was coming from. To his credit, he point-blank answered no and defended the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star and mother of his two sons, saying that she has worked “for 20-plus years.” He also claimed that he’s never been worried about being implicated in her alleged crimes.

In reaction to the conversation, apparent Bravo fan Meghan McCain took issue with how Sharrieff Shah has been treated in Jen Shah’s ongoing case in comparison to how Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Erika Jayne has been treated amidst her ex-husband Tom Girardi’s embezzlement lawsuits. (Lately, she has escaped one lawsuit, only to then be implicated in a new $2.1 million complaint that accuses her of aiding and abetting Girardi’s crimes by proxy of financially benefitting from them.) Essentially, McCain sees Sharrieff as the Erika Jayne to Jen Shah's Tom Girardi. And after the tense Salt Lake City reunion and its pointed questions aimed at Sharrieff, the former View co-host fired off those thoughts on Twitter:

The perceived double standard by Meghan McCain echoes comments made within the fanbase online. While Erika Jayne was frequently grilled by her co-stars and members of the public about her ex’s legal problems in Season 11 of her show, the same cannot quite be said about Sharrieff Shah during Season 2 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Some viewers have claimed that even Jen Shah didn’t face enough criticism by her co-stars, both in Season 2 and at the reunions.

However, concerning Meghan McCain’s larger point, Sharrieff Shah is technically not a main castmate on a reality series. He’s just a husband, therefore making him less prone to scrutiny than either Jen Shah or Erika Jayne. The latter star has herself argued that she wouldn’t be implicated at all with Tom Girardi's reported issues, if she wasn’t on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Nevertheless, it’s possible that the authorities have in fact investigated her spouse for potential involvement. As of yet, he faces no criminal charges. But Jen will head to trial in New York very soon (supposedly pushed to July instead of March 22), where if found guilty, she faces upwards of 50 years in prison.

The season finale of Sex & the City revival And Just Like That dropped on HBO Max at the beginning of February. While the series has received some criticism and complaints, the nostalgia for the beloved characters has been trumping it. However, conservative columnist Meghan McCain wrote an editorial about the revival, and now the stars are responding.

Following the release of And Just Like That, Meghan McCain wrote a pretty harshly-worded article for The Daily Mail. As someone who watched the original series while going to college in New York City when it was airing, McCain was not so thrilled about the new series. She brought up that And Just Like That is clumsily trying to attempt to turn a beloved show into “the woke and puritanical times” we’re currently living in.

The cast of And Just Like That were recently guests on the SiriusXM show Radio Andy with Andy Cohen, where the host eventually brought up McCain’s article. Cynthia Nixon, who portrays Miranda Hobbes, gave her input on McCain’s story, noting that a lot has changed since the show first aired, but it’s still the show people know and love. In her words:

Nixon also said that Sex & the City was revolutionary for women having a lot of sex with a lot different partners, and how marriage wasn’t necessarily a thing everyone was pursuing. The show was also unique in the way that they approached topics involving sex and the conversations that came along, i.e. the frankness of it all.

Meanwhile, Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, also put in her two cents. She mentioned how everyone on And Just Like That, and the fans that watch, care so much about the show and the characters. However, she hadn’t really thought about how different it is until it was over and it had all aired. They took these beloved characters and put them in a different show with new faces and a different title, and even switched them up a bit.

Some revivals have the same layout as the original series or are completely fresh. Davis didn’t realized just how different And Just Like That was compared to other revivals until recently. The show airing in a time completely different than when Sex & the City was airing is partly to blame, but it just means that the show and characters are evolving as a society, which includes a pretty diverse cast.

There have definitely been some mixed reactions to And Just Like That, especially when it came to killing off Big and involving Peloton as the cause for it. However, while a second season has yet to be announced, it seems like it’s only just a matter of time before HBO Max renews it. In the meantime, all 10 episodes of the series are streaming, along with the entirety of Sex & the City.

ABC’s The View is no stranger to controversy, as the long-running daytime talk show has been embroiled in a number of incidents due to things said or done by its panelists. The latest situation involves longtime cast member Whoopi Goldberg, who received backlash after making statements related to the Holocaust. A number of pundits and general viewers have been sharing thoughts on the matter and, after Goldberg’s subsequent two-week suspension from the show, some are calling for her to be fired. Now, former series co-host Meghan McCain has added her voice to the chorus of people weighing in. 

Whoopi Goldberg made the controversial comments during the January 31st episode of the series. During the “Hot Topics'' segment, the group began discussing the banning of particular books within some school systems across the United States. From discussing the subject of censorship, the group began to debate whether the Holocaust was racially motivated. With this, Goldberg asserted that the anti-Semitic behavior of the time was not comparable to racism. Her fellow panelists seemed to disagree with her, as did many viewers. Since the episode aired, the TV personality has apologized for the remarks.

What Meghan McCain Had To Say About Whoopi Goldberg’s Comments

During her own tenure on the show, Meghan McCain found herself on the receiving end of backlash due to statements made on-air and has been candid about her problems with the program. Since departing the show in July 2021, the media personality has become a writer for DailyMail.com. In her most recent column for the site, she admitted that she hasn’t watched the series since her exit but found her former co-star’s sentiments “too serious to avoid addressing.” In the piece, she recalled receiving negative responses in early 2019 after chastising the founders of the Women's March, who were accused of holding anti-Semitic views. 

After detailing her views on the state of antisemitism in the U.S., she turned her attention directly to Whoopi Goldberg. Meghan McCain chastised her View colleagues’ belief that “'cancel culture' is really 'accountability culture'”. McCain also argued that a double standard exists when it comes to the show’s liberal and conservative-leaning pundits and says that “accountability culture” is “forgotten” when it comes to Goldberg. Nevertheless, the former host states that she is not asking that her former colleague be ousted from her job:

It would be an understatement to say that Meghan McCain and the Star Trek alum had their fair share of ups and downs while working together on ABC’s top-rated talk show. While the show has seen plenty of tension-filled scenarios over the years, McCain and Goldberg arguably produced some of its most cringeworthy moments. However, the two also found common ground at times. For instance, McCain once paid tribute to the Oscar winner while noting their philosophical differences. The Sister Act 3 star also comforted her former co-host when she returned to the show for the first time following the death of her father, Senator John McCain. 

Given the state of their relationship, it seems understandable that the DailyMail writer isn’t asking that Whoopi Goldberg be fired but is still criticizing how the show handles conflicts involving her. As of this writing, Goldberg remains suspended from the show and no further decisions regarding her future have been revealed by the network.

So far in 2021, Meghan McCain walked away from her rather tumultuous stint co-hosting The View, she released an Audible-exclusive audio memoir that threw all manner of shade at her former job, and (most importantly) celebrated her daughter Liberty's one-year birthday. So how did the Conservative-leaning author and TV personality celebrate Halloween? By joining her husband Ben Domenech in dressing up as some of TV's most fiery characters: Yellowstone's Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. And thank the big sky heavens, she gave fans a peek at their fictional family dynamic.

While it would have been amazing to see Meghan McCain and her hubs act out a full scene as Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser's beloved Yellowstone characters,  we'll have to just enjoy the following Instagram post by its lonesome.

With Yellowstone finally returning to Paramount Network for Season 4 a week after Halloween night, this was definitely a timely costume plan for Meghan McCain. Admittedly, I might not have automatically guessed what these costumes were, or even had the wherewithal to assume that they were costumes, since the adults in the picture don't look all that outlandish. (The kiddo does give it away a little.) But then knowing that they're Beth and Rip, it becomes very obvious and hard not to see after the fact.

There are certainly critiques that could be made, such as McCain's red wig being a bit too vivid as compared to Beth's. Or the fact that both her and Ben Domenech are in the vicinity of smiling, which is quite the rare treat for viewers to see, though it does happen far more often when Beth and Rip are together as opposed to when they're apart. And It's unclear if either character will be smiling when Season 4 kicks off, considering the worrying way things ended for most of the main characters in Season 3's finale. To that end, it might have been a hoot had they dressed up as Beth and Rip as they would have looked after the events of the finale. But that's a bit dark, especially with a cute l'il fawn around. 

While I can't speak for how Ben Domenech would compare to Rip Wheeler by way of whooping the shit out of someone, Meghan McCain has certainly proven herself capable of approaching situations and conversations in a way that Beth Dutton would likely approve of. Granted, McCain doesn't drop threatening F-bombs as is Beth's signature tactic, but you can bet she wanted to let a lot of those fly during her years on The View. 

We have another year to wait and see if Meghan McCain will spend next Halloween dressing up as someone from another Taylor Sheridan project, but fans can watch Yellowstone's two-episode Season 4 premiere when it airs on Paramount Network on Sunday, November 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET. The drama between Meghan McCain and The View has intensified after the former co-host spoke about her experience on the talk show while promoting her new memoir. (Which also features such stories.) McCain alleged the set was “toxic” due to her View co-hosts, leading to her exit from the show. Those claims were a departure fromMcCain’s original reason for leaving the show. After hearing the former View co-host’s claims, her former network refuted such claims and unofficially clapped back at McCain and her memoir.

According to TMZ sources, ABC executives are furious over Meghan McCain’s workplace allegations featured in her new memoir Bad Republican, and her promotional campaign across various conservative talk shows probably isn't helping.  McCain’s recounting of her experiences on The View has been almost entirely one-sided and negative, while putting all the blame for her troubles on others, and continuing to stress that her exit from the show was her idea. But it turns out that might not have been the case at all. 

It's reproted that an internal investigation headed by ABC News chief Kim Goodwin found it was the conservative pundit who was also causing the toxic work environment to persist. It wasn’t just her onscreen spats with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, but her behind-the-scenes behavior allegedly wasn’t too great either. The investigation came after Meghan McCain and Behar’s fiery spat earlier this year, after which it's alleged that Goldberg, Behar and Ana Navarro wanted the conservative co-host gone, as opposed to McCain choosing to leave completely of her own volition. 

ABC executives claimed Meghan McCain was the instigator in every situation, per TMZ. They found her to fuel onscreen (and off-screen) arguments along with keeping them going. The source alleged her departure was on the horizon for some time, and claimed former View producer James Goldston was informed to terminate the conservative pundit sooner, but he didn’t want to face the ire of conservative viewers.

These alleged rebuffs from ABC shouldn’t be too surprising. Rumors have been swirling for months about the friction between Meghan McCain and The View. Things have become so heightened that a View producer was allegedly trying to prevent anyone on the show from talking to her. Before she departed from the talk show, it was alleged McCain felt like a “lone wolf” as the show's token conservative. She wouldn’t have been the first conservative co-host to feel that way, and there are some who have backed up her claims that others behind the scenes are also responsible for the in-fighting. Despite the alleged animosity, McCain seems to be thriving after leaving the show.

Despite the drama, the show is currently filling her vacate seat with conservative women for Season 25, which airs weekdays at 11:00 a.m. on ABC. Just probably don't expect to see Meghan McCain to return for a guest spot anytime soon. 

ABC’s The View has seen plenty of co-hosts leave over the years, all departing for their own specific set of reasons. Yet Meghan McCain’s recent departure is seemingly proving to be one of its more dramatic exits. The conservative host announced her departure from the daytime staple back in July, citing her desire to do new things and commit more time to her newborn child and family. Many have wondered whether McCain would be discussing her time on the tumultuous talk show, and it now appears she’s ready to chat. She’s not only written a book on the matter but also engaged in a lengthy interview in which she candidly shared behind-the-scenes-details. 

The TV personality and writer recently produced an audio memoir called Bad Republican, in which she details her decision to leave the series. During her recent interview with Variety, she also shared thoughts on the state of the ABC series, stating her belief that the show has “demons” that need to be exorcised. While speaking on why she thinks the show has “a toxic work environment,” she shared thoughts on what it was like to be the lone conservative voice:

As many probably know, The View aims to present a panel of women, each hailing from different ethnic, socioeconomic and political backgrounds. The series typically brings on at least one panelist to provide a conservative perspective on the issues of the day. Meghan McCain effectively took on this role following the departure of Candace Cameron Bure. After McCain mentioned that this was a position that made her feel “isolated,” she went on to discuss her experiences backstage: 

The host’s tenure was filled with more than a few heated moments, a few of which involved colleagues Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. Though the squabbles would help with ratings,  she and Behar, in particular, even got into a disagreement that caused ABC News head Kim Godwin to intervene. One particularly tense exchange took place when the conservative pundit returned from maternity leave and seemed to playfully assert that Behar missed her. Behar responded by saying, “I did not. I did not miss you. Zero.” While talking to the trade, Meghan McCain says she never received an apology for the remark. 

Throughout the discussion, Meghan McCain discusses a number of other topics, including her relationship with the network execs and the notes she received. She even compared The View’s current status to that of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which has been marred by controversy over the past year, but McCain said the ABC series was toxic “in a different way.” With this, the media personality shared some pretty direct thoughts on whether she’d return to the show at some point:

With the show’s current situation, that group of women seem to be getting the opportunity. The co-host’s exit has obviously left an open spot and, for the currently airing Season 25, the show is looking to a revolving door of talent to fill the void. This roster includes conservative personalities like Condoleezza Rice and Gretchen Carlson. 

The program also seems to be eager to bring back former panelists for guest stints. But all in all, it seems Meghan McCain has no interest in returning in any capacity, as she seems set on moving on and remaining solely in her position as a DailyMail columnist.

As the resident conservative viewpoint on The View, Meghan McCain got into many heated political debates with her co-hosts during her four seasons. It certainly was a boon for the daytime talk show’s ratings but, this year, the head honcho apparently thought it was going too far and getting too personal. McCain left the show not long after and ABC has been filling her spot with temps (Jeopardy-style) ever since. Certain rumors are indicating, though, that the drama hasn't been put to bed just yet – because one producer is supposedly still attempting to keep people from talking to the ex-host.

Despite a previous snafu with co-host Joy Behar, Meghan McCain seemed to be leaving in good terms when she announced her formal exit on The View in July. However, sources told Page Six that producer Brian Teta is worried about the former pundit seemingly trashing the show in her new columnist gig with The Daily Mail. A source in fact claims that Teta is banning staffers from having contact with her at all, saying:

Still, it seems unlikely that the bad blood runs quite so deep that ABC wants or even needs to blackball the former co-host. Given how her controversial opinions while still on the show helped them out with viewership, any buzz from her Daily Mail thoughts could surely be utilized the same way. What's more, at her final show, the host explained that she was leaving because she wanted to be with her newborn baby and had nothing but glowing words for her former co-stars and time on the show. On the network's side, a spokesperson told Page Six that the rumors are “not true.” They continued:

Ever since Meghan McCain left The View, the main concern has evidently been who would fill the seat at the table. A slew of guest hosts has done its best to keep up the pace in the currently airing Season 25. Nevertheless, some tried-and-true alums are expected to be enticed back, such as Debbie Matenopoulos, whose representative is apparently “having conversations with senior executives” about her return. However, one ex host is most definitely not coming back, and that's Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure. While saying she’s more than happy to be a guest host, she claimed the full time spot was too “emotional” and “stressful.”

It's an intense year for pursuing talk show hosting gigs, as ABC also dropped Chris Harrison from Bachelor Nation. Meanwhile, CBS fired Sharon Osbourne from The Talk for her own controversial opinions earlier this year.

All this speculation about ABC and Meghan McCain is sure to gain the attention of prospective successors. With this, it'll be interesting to see who the network ultimately taps to fill the void.

After some controversial on-air conversations with her co-stars, Meghan McCain exited The View with four seasons under her belt. The conservative commentator apparently had no ill will about the change, but the question quickly shifted to who would take her seat at the table. Temporary hosts are being brought in this season as short-term solutions. As for a replacement permanent host, though, some viewers have likely considered former host Candace Cameron Bure as a potential option, and she has some thoughts on the prospect of a return.

Candace Cameron Bure initially joined The View for two seasons in 2015 and 2016, alongside other newcomers like Raven-Symoné and Michelle Collins. But she later left the show due to obligations to Netflix's Fuller House and her Hallmark projects. When recently asked by People if she would consider returning to the show, Cameron Bure said she'd “never want a permanent seat at the table again,” but coming back as a guest isn’t out of bounds. She continued:

Though Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure considers her former cast and crew on The View like “family,” the same can’t exactly be said for Meghan McCain. In her last appearances, McCain got into some heated political exchanges with the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. After which, ABC News’ president supposedly held an impromptu sit-down about the toxic direction the show was headed in.

Ironically, Candace Cameron Bure cited the inherent political discussions at the heart of The View as to why she won't be a permanent host again. She shared that during her run it was supposed to be about “more ever-green topics and less about politics” but Donald Trump's presidential bid in 2016 “changed everything.” She also said:

One would think that Meghan McCain leaving The View would signal that the show is truly turning a less political leaf these days. But Candace Cameron Bure apparently doesn't think so. The lineup of temporary hosts this season – including Condoleezza Rice and Gretchen Carlson – does kind of support her assumptions.

The show must go on, though. Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Barbara Walters and co. will be joined by the alternating temps on The View on weekdays on ABC at 11 a.m. EST. Meanwhile, Candace Cameron Bure has Hallmark movies to promote.

Meghan McCain announced her departure from The View after nearly four years back in July as the latest (and possibly most divisive) of the conservative co-hosts to leave, but exiting the long-running talk show doesn't mean that she has been out of a job for too long. McCain has landed her first gig since leaving The View, but it won't bring her back in front of viewers. Here's what's coming for the former View co-host.

For her next gig, Megan McCain has joined DailyMail.com to work as a columnist. It's a big switch from her work as one of several co-hosts of a hit ABC daytime talk show, but not an unprecedented career choice for McCain. She previously worked as a columnist for The Daily Beast, although she hit the mainstream more with her contributions on Fox News and MSNBC. McCain opened up about her decision to come to DailyMail.com, saying:

Meghan McCain's first column on the website will go live during the week of September 20, but no specific date has been announced at the time of writing. She did confirm via Instagram that her column will be published twice weekly, then went a bit harder on explaining why she's excited about her new gig, referring to the job as working in "a completely uncensored, free thinking space."

Considering the discussion and drama surrounding her tenure and then departure from The View, Megan McCain's comments about pursuing what she sees as a "free thinking space" and "without fear or favor" isn't altogether surprising. All the way back in early 2020, sources alleged that Meghan McCain was a "lone wolf" on set who made it difficult to produce the show, while rumors that have spread since her decision to leave state that she had been wanting to leave for a long time and was sick of the fighting.

In her public comments about leaving The View back when the news first broke, however, Meghan McCain referred to her time on the show as "one of the hands-down greatest the most exhilarating, wonderful privileges of my entire life" and named it as one of the "so many amazing experiences in my life." She even thanked her co-hosts and said that "it is not easy to leave."

Still, it would have been pretty shocking if Meghan McCain had made claims about censorship during her farewell to her fellow View co-hosts in her announcement to viewers. Plus, she still had some time left on the show when she made the announcement, so burning bridges at that point wouldn't have made a whole lot of sense!

Her return from maternity leave in early 2021 was marked by a spat with Joy Behar, who is the last remaining original host still on The View, and heated conflicts between the two reportedly led to the ABC News head honcho stepping in. McCain has had positive things to say about working with Whoopi Goldberg, however, saying that she needed her as a moderator on the show and even shared a heartfelt post about working with Goldberg less than a year ago.

The View is seemingly in no rush to find a permanent replacement for Meghan McCain, and it's pretty clear that McCain isn't planning on returning to the ABC talk show any time soon. Her new job as a columnist is one that she seems excited about, so hopefully she and her fans are more comfortable there while the debate on current events continues on The View.

The View has been known for many things during the course of its 20+ seasons, whether it be its notable guests or the heated discussions between its panelists. But viewers have also become aware of the fact that the talk show experiences frequent hosting changes. Just recently, it said goodbye to Meghan McCain, who chose to depart the series after four seasons. With an empty slot at the iconic roundtable, the ABC program has now found a replacement (or a few) to temporarily fill the void as the show continues production.

When The View kicks Season 25 (back in its studio with a live audience), the show will feature a string of guest co-hosts to fill Meghan McCain’s position. And the series has now tapped some significant names to join the fray. According to THR, premiere week will see Mia Love, a Utah congresswoman, join the panelists. She’ll then be followed by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Fox & Friends alum Gretchen Carlson, Eboni K. Williams, S.E. Cupp, Alyssa Farah, Mary Katherine Ham, Cameran Eubanks and even former HP CEO Carly Fiorina.

Longtime fans of the show will also be happy to know that Season 25 will also introduce “Flashback Fridays.” With these, The View will welcome in former panelists to rejoin the series. Former co-host Star Jones is set to kick off this new trend on September 10. But amid these guest host strategies, how is the series actually handling its hunt for a permanent replacement for McCain?

Per executive producer Brian Teta (via THR), The View is currently “taking a little time” to nail down Meghan McCain’s permanent successor. Teta did not specify whether any of the guest hosts would be in the running for the job, but one would imagine that many of them could become viable candidates should they connect with audiences.

The show hasn’t given any indication as to what kind of host it’s looking for but, considering that Meghan McCain was the sole conservative voice on the show, the producers may be looking for someone else who can provide that perspective. Over the years, the show has aimed to bring in women of different political and social backgrounds, and the producers probably want to maintain that approach.

The View’s approach to its co-host vacancy is somewhat similar to the strategy Jeopardy! has been using while trying to find a successor for the late, great Alex Trebek. Over the past year, the iconic game show has brought in a variety of celebrities to stand behind the podium, from NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers to Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts.

Although it’ll be interesting to see how The View’s new guest hosts perform, the prospect of seeing panel veterans is probably even more intriguing to audiences. The “Flashback Fridays” approach opens the door for the return of alums like Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselback and Rosie Perez. You also can’t help but wonder if the show’s creator, Barbara Walters, would even return as a result. Yet I wouldn’t expect to see some vets like Candace Cameron Bure, who didn’t quite love her time as a panelist.

There’s not telling if The View will have its new co-host solidified before the end of Season 25. But in the meantime, viewers are sure to enjoy seeing what the guests bring to the table.

Some of TV's most dependable rivalries in recent years have been front and center on ABC's The View, but things could potentially become less nerve-grinding in the topical chat show's future now that Meghan McCain is making her exit going into the fall. Of course, that only holds true if the network replaces McCain with someone who won't dive right into butting heads with cohosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. Before making any permanent replacement choice goes, though, it seems like The View will utilize a guest-host plan similar to how Jeopardy! has handled filling its Alex Trebek void.

Rather than racing around and trying to secure a permanent substitution for Meghan McCain, ABC will reportedly first bring in a variety of guest hosts after the conservative host's exit later this year. According to Page Six, the main goal is finding the "right person" to take over that particular slot, as opposed to just filling the seat as quickly as possible. It doesn't sound like anyone is facing any major pressure at this point, which definitely isn't always the case when it comes to major talk show exits like this.

At this point, it doesn't appear as if ABC is ready to go public with a list of guest hosts just yet, but fans can probably expect a mash-up of different personalities, very much like the revolving door of guest hosts that Jeopardy! has welcomed to the stage in 2021. Of course, The View's guest host round-up will include a bigger bevy of right-leaning potential replacements, and it'll certainly take someone with a strong personality to take Meghan McCain's place. Regardless of one's opinion of her (or any of the show's hosts), it's not the easiest and most stress-free gig to sit in that particular spotlight on a daily basis, especially when tempers are flaring.

The list of guest hosts will reportedly feature some more well-known personalities, but not everyone will be a familiar face to the masses. It all depends on whose point-of-view is the one that can be complemented by the others. While fans and the rumor mill have held past guest host Ana Navarro up as a solid choice to replace Meghan McCain, Page Six also stated that Navarro's permanent involvement would be a major financial investment for ABC. Because she lives in Florida and not in New York where The View films, she would allegedly need to see more dollar signs to make the new gig worth the travels. McCain claimed the eventual shift back to in-studio filming is part of the reason behind her exit, as she has no interest in making those trips as a new mom.

To date, Jeopardy! has featured 13 guest hosts on the long road to finding a more permanent replacement for Alex Trebek. It's obviously a lot harder to properly replace someone who hosted a show for 37 years as opposed to four years, but change is almost always messy. Speaking of, over on The Talk, longtime co-host Sharon Osbourne exited after her controversial situation regarding Piers Morgan and Sheryl Underwood, and was recently replaced with Jerry O'Connell, of all people. Here's hoping The View can possibly find some similarly inspired choices going forward.

The View has seen a merry-go-round of hosts sit down at its iconic table over its last 23 years on air. One might even argue that ever since Sherri Shepherd exited after Season 17 that the network hasn't been too successful in nailing down permanent hosts beyond Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. Following Meghan McCain's announcement of her exit, many have been speculating that ABC will replace her with Debbie Matenopoulos, one of the original hosts of the show. Now, Matenopoulos has officially responded to those reports.

When Barbara Walters first created The View back in 1997, she invited Debbie Matenopoulos, 21 at the time, to audition as co-host in order to bring in a younger perspective on the daily news topics. But after two years, Matenopoulos’s contract wasn't renewed in 1999. She showed up several times as a guest in subsequent years but, now that Meghan McCain is out, she might just be willing to get back in the fray. Her spokesperson told ET Online:

Things aren't quite set in stone then but, clearly, Debbie Matenopoulos at least confirmed she is in talks to make a return to The View. It makes sense considering that ABC reportedly wanted Meghan McCain out because her arguments with the other co-hosts were getting too personal in recent months (no matter how hard they may have pretended otherwise). In contrast to McCain’s staunch conservative views, Matenopoulos is perhaps best known for keeping things light and fun on her other gigs over the years, like Fashion Police, VH1 specials, and Entertainment Tonight.

However, the decision for Meghan McCain's replacement on The View is still up in the air, as Debbie Matenopoulos might not be able to work out the logistics in her schedule. Her spokesperson said:

Debbie Matenopoulos would see one familiar face if she returned to The View: Joy Behar, who has been a host since its inception. She would be joined also by more recent staples like Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines, if they all return as well. Matenopoulos may want to be wary, though, because the discussions amongst the women get well and truly awkward, not to mention intense, these days (as Meghan McCain well knows and the ratings have soared under).

If Debbie Matenopoulos does return to The View, it'll honestly be a photo negative version of Meghan McCain's hard-handed approach as host. But it'll be curious if Matenopoulos will live or die by the “ditzy” moniker she was once ridiculed for back in the '90s.

Meghan McCain’s departure from The View stunned many viewers and fans, despite all the varying opinions about the conservative commentator, since her high-profile feuds with co-hosts have helped the show’s ratings since she first signed on. Her anticipated departure marks the end of a short-term era for the morning series, but not everyone seems to be so heartbroken over her big July exit. With McCain leaving The View now fully out in the open, insiders are spilling some alleged tea regarding behind-the-scenes issues that may have played into her decision to leave.

According to Page Six, sources alleged that Meghan McCain’s departure from The View had been brewing for a while, with McCain reportedly being miserable for months, especially after having a baby during the pandemic. Despite the co-host’s frustrations, The View is obviously still a major TV gig that one would hope could be a long-lasting job. But here's how the process allegedly went for McCain:

Allegedly, the ongoing back-and-forth tiffs between the show’s most prominent conservative co-host and her colleagues were seemingly happening more and more often, gaining more publicity each time. That was most evident with her May blowup with View veteran Joy Behar and her recent tangle with the show’s moderator Whoopi Goldberg. As such, it’s certainly reasonable for Meghan McCain to want to leave the show if it isn’t a mentally sound space for her anymore. (If it ever was.) She definitely wouldn't be the first to leave for that reason.

Her fellow View co-hosts allegedly share that sentiment, though in a slightly different way. According to Page Six, Meghan McCain’s co-hosts were reportedly becoming just as frustrated by the growing tension on the political chatfest, alleging that Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Ana Navarro were all pushing for Meghan McCain to be fired, as opposed to pressuring her to quit on her own terms. Sources alleged that Goldberg, Behar and Navarro banded together to talk with ABC News president Kim Godwin about their dissatisfaction with McCain, with the trio reportedly telling their relatively new boss that they couldn’t “work with her anymore.”

Whoopi Goldberg was allegedly the View host who pushed the hardest for changes to be made with Meghan McCain, which is arguably surprising in some ways, given their seemingly close relationship over the years. Not to mention the fact that Goldberg isn't the most hot-headed member of the squad. While she apparently didn't directly try to get McCain booted, here's how she reportedly approached the stressful situation.

Sources alleged the former production team on The View had Meghan McCain’s back before things changed over for Season 24. But of all the co-hosts, Meghan McCain reportedly had the rockiest relationship with fellow panelist Sunny Hostin. Sources alleged that McCain didn’t trust Hostin early on as she suspected Hostin “was leaking stories about her.” Things were reportedly getting so bad that the producers at the time told Hostin they would pick McCain over her, which led to further tension between the two for some time before they started talking more and leaning on each other during recent hardships.

Given the past drama on the show in recent months, it seemed to be the right time for Meghan McCain to leave The View for anyone and everyone's benefit. She can now enjoy her off-screen life as a new mom without the spotlight or the constant bickering. But even after she departs The View, I’m sure it won’t be too long before viewers see McCain pop up on their television screen once again.

For nearly four years, former Fox News contributor and famed political offspring Meghan McCain has served as a polarizing pillar of conservativism on ABC's morning show The View, often trading headline-making barbs with equally polarizing co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg. And while she's talked non-specifically about potentially exiting the high-rated chat show one day, it appears she's been contemplating that decision pretty heavily as of late, as McCain announced at the top of this morning's episode that she'll be leaving The View in the near future.

It appears that Meghan McCain's home life, which was obviously affected by the COVID pandemic, is now taking more of a prioritized front seat, and she wants to continue raising her and husband Ben Domenech's young daughter via their current living conditions in Washington D.C., rather than moving back to New York City to keep taping The View in-studio. While news of Meghan McCain's exit is no doubt highly shocking to many viewers and fans, considering heavy rumors only started circulating in the hours ahead of her big announcement, at least everyone can take comfort in knowing she'll still be there for another month to rattle Whoopi Goldberg's nerves and speak her mind on any big moments happening in America (and around the world). While she didn't give an exact date for her final episode, it can be assumed that she'll say farewell at some point during the final week of July.

Of course, Meghan McCain also took the time to reflect on her time at The View, donning some rose-colored glasses in looking back at four years opposite her co-hosts, and gave more props to her father John McCain for convincing her to take the gig. In her words:

Things also took an enjoyably odd turn when McCain revealed that her father John McCain may have had a puppy-love crush on Sunny Hostin, which amused everyone in the group. She also joked about having another month to fight with anyone else who wanted to get into it. It should be quite interesting to see just how things shake out in the next month, as far as whether McCain & Co. will be more cordial with one another, or if the knowledge of her imminent exit means that things will become even more testy. Either way, audiences are here for it.

Fans can probably expect to see a lot of speculation about who will end up replacing Meghan McCain after she officially exits. There is no shortage of guest hosts from over the years who could fill the seat, as well as a decent number of former co-hosts whose exits weren't caused by firings. And it's not certain whether or not they'll first find a permanent host, or if they'll have a revolving door of guests to stop by until something more official is decided.

In the realm of daytime chat shows - or virtually any other kind of television format, really -The View is arguably one of the most contentious shows on TV. The hosts might not be an octagon or wearing gloves, but episodes can get every bit as rivalrous and chaotic as a UFC feud, with the stalwart Joy Behar and resident conservative Meghan McCain regularly getting into heightened tiffs over one political issue or another. Such awkwardness usually creates decent buzz for The View, but it looks like the big boss at ABC News is growing weary of such in-fighting.

ABC News President Kim Godwin, who just landed the job in April 2021, apparently felt like The View's daily squabbles were getting to be a bit much across the board, so she reportedly called an impromptu meeting with The View's on-air talent and the producers. According to TMZ, Godwin was inspired to make the virtual meeting happen after ABC received a bunch of comments and responses after Monday's episode, with many of them calling for Meghan McCain to be fired for her latest behavior.

It's said that Kim Godwin told The View's commentators that their debates have become far too personal in recent months, with co-hosts attacking each other personally rather than sticking mainly to the topics at hand. As well, Godwin allegedly stated that she is not content with the direction of the show veering off into places that could be deemed as toxic by the show's viewership. Which is a pretty important element here, considering The View's audience has seen some upticks this year as the world slowly shifts out of pandemic-lockdown mode. But are more people tuning in because of the in-fighting?

It might not even matter to Kim Godwin if she definitively wants to put a stop to The View's politically inflamed conversations. It's not like the show was failing before it became such a pillar for mid-morning verbal spats. Granted, the stars do get along sometimes behind the scenes, or at least they're decent about acting like it, so it's possible this talk with ABC News' boss could be the light that guides The View to more evened-out conversations and debates with its revolving door of co-hosts.

For those who aren't aware of the backstory, the Monday, May 24 broadcast featured The View's co-hosts getting particularly riled up during a discussion surrounding anti-Semitic remarks made by controversial Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green. Now, viewers can probably assume Whoopi Goldberg knew exactly what she was doing when she asked her fellow panelists to share their thoughts, and Meghan McCain certainly didn't disappoint in that respect. She clapped back at Sunny Hostin's comments and then went off to the point where Goldberg cut her short to jump into a commercial break, which understandably didn't sit well with McCain, who later got into it even more with Joy Behar.

Will ABC News' Kim Godwin be able to completely eradicate The View's most hectic moments? Only time will tell, so tune into the talk show every morning on ABC to see what'll happen next.

In the years since its debut, ABC’s The View hasn’t been a stranger to controversies. The talk show has experienced an array of uncomfortable situations, with many of them stemming from comments made by its pundits. Just recently, co-host Meghan McCain came under fire for past comments made in relation to Asian Americans and the COVID-19 pandemic. This recent situation, however, does not seem to have negatively impacted the show’s viewership, as it would appear the show is greatly succeeding in that regard.

A press release from ABC reports that for the week of March 8, 2021, The View was ranked No. 1 in Households and Total Viewers, 2.1 rtg and 2.738 million, respectively. With this, the show took the top spot in all 25 weeks of original telecasts during this TV season in Households and 24 of 25 weeks in Total Viewers. During that week, The View led the daytime network and syndicated talk shows and news programs. Behind the show were Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.8 rtg and 2.504 million, respectively), Dr. Phil (1.7 rtg and 2.250 million, respectively) and NBC’s Today Third Hour (1.5 rtg and 2.130 million, respectively).

In terms of season to date, the show ranks No. 1 in Households and Total Viewers (2.2 rtg and 2.970 million, respectively). This actually marks a first for the show in its 24-year history at this point in a season.

During the week of March 15, The View also averaged 2.734 million Total Viewers, with an estimated 379,000 in the Women 25-54 demographic and roughly 256,000 from that of the Women 18-49 demo. This is all based on Live+ Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

In addition, The View is also thriving and surpassing numbers of last season. Compared to this point in time last season, the show is up in Total Viewers by 13%. In terms of numbers, this season has garnered 2.970 million compared to last season’s 2.628 million. And the numbers in the Women 25-54 demographic have seen a 1% increase (from 390,000 to 395,000). All in all, The View has reportedly earned its most watched season in the past six years, more specifically since the 2014-2015 season.

These are pretty impressive numbers, especially when you consider the daytime competition The View is currently up against. It would seem that viewers are more than engaged, despite the controversies.

The most recent situation began when Meghan McCain tweeted in support of stopping the recent violence aimed at Asian Americans in the midst of the pandemic. However, during a segment on Last Week Tonight, John Oliver recalled comments made by the host that seemed to contradict her sentiments. Back in March 2020, McCain said on air that while she did not agree with stereotyping Asian Americans, she had no problem with then-President Donald Trump referring to COVID-19 as “the China Virus.” Since the segment aired, McCain responded, apologizing for her past comments.

Conflict among the hosts of The View has been a heavily discussed topic during the longtime show’s run, especially over the past few years. Because the hosts have different social and political experiences, it’s natural that they would clash with each other at times. The View is finally replacing former co-host Abby Huntsman. Towards the beginning of the year, Huntsman announced that she would be departing the daytime talk show. Ahead of its Season 24 premiere, The View has confirmed that a former co-host will return to replace Huntsman, as well as shared plans for Meghan McCain’s absence.

Here is what is happening. Ahead of Meghan McCain’s maternity leave, former co-host Sara Haines will return to The View starting with Season 24, per Deadline. The news comes after previous reports indicated Haines returning to The View. Haines served as a co-host on The View from 2016 until 2018.

Where has she been in the meantime? Sara Haines had been the “Sara” in GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke, which was cancelled earlier in 2020. Haines has remained more than cordial with The View since leaving, returning to co-host in a guest capacity following Huntsman’s exit. Now, she will be back for good. Or as long as “for good” is on The View.

What about Meghan McCain? The View’s outspoken co-host will be going on maternity leave, and when she does, she will not have an official replacement. Instead, the plan is to fill McCain’s slot with a lot of guests and potential guest hosts. McCain will be on The View when Season 24 starts, so expect to see Sara Haines and McCain on-screen together before the latter temporarily exits.

The View has been home to so much drama through the years that it is getting a scripted TV show. However, this news sounds entirely tame. Meghan McCain will return from maternity leave at some point, and Joy Behar should still be there. Despite word that Behar planned to retire from the show in two years (2022), Behar later denied it.

Is Sara Haines ready to get back to the talk show? Haines filling in since she departed full-time should help her ease back into the swing of things. Of course, Candace Cameron Bure called her time on The View her most challenging job yet. The good news for fans of the long-running chat-fest is that they will not have to adjust to a new co-host.

Longtime viewers are familiar with Sara Haines, who joined The View to replace then-outgoing co-host Michelle Collins. Haines lasted from Season 20 to Season 22. After two seasons away, she will be back. Due to the constant sense of change surrounding the co-hosts, it will be interesting to see how long Haines remains a part of The View’s cast. Season 24 should shed some light.
