The Devil Wears Prada is one of the best 2000's movies, which is why fans were so hyped when it was revealed that a long-awaited sequel was finally coming. The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters back in May, and caught up with the beloved cast of characters. That includes Emily Blunt's Emily, and the actress revealed one line of dialogue that made her "shrivel" in front of Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly.

The original movie (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription) made audiences fall in love with Emily, and moviegoers were shocked when she was an antagonist of the sequel. But Miranda threw some epic shade at her as a result, saying, "You’re not a visionary, you’re a vendor." During an interview with The New York Times, Blunt revealed her reaction to that savage line, offering:

Reviews for The Devil Wears Prada 2 were generally positive, and the audience score was even higher on Rotten Tomatoes. The original movie is what made Emily Blunt into a household name, so it was definitely a full-circle moment for her to reprise that role in the long-awaited sequel. And while Emily was one of the antagonists of David Frankel's follow-up film, she reached peace with Andy by its conclusion. The final shot of the movie features Andy, Miranda, and Nigel working in their respective offices at Runway in a gorgeous ending to the story. Of course, there are some fans who are hoping for a third book-to-screen adaptation.

When you think of a list of the best actors of all time, Meryl Streep is sure to be on it, quite possibly in the top spot. That doesn’t make her infallible on set. Icons are people too, and they can sometime forget a line in a pivotal moment while shooting a movie with another formidable talent. It’s not surprising to hear no one is perfect, but it’s funny that Doubt co-star Viola Davis, herself an Oscar winner, had a moment during filming when she didn't want to call out the other actress.

Doubt is one of those heavy-hitter movies that resulted in strong reviews and later Oscar nominations for Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and the cast was widely praised for their performances, so you know everyone was bringing their A-game to the set of that 2008 release. From writer/director John Patrick Shanley, who adapted from his own Tony-winning play, Streep plays Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the parish school principal, with Davis in the role of Mrs. Miller, mother of the school’s first black student, Donald.

Getting to be a fly on the wall when Meryl Streep, who has played other roles landing her Oscar nominations, and Viola Davis are sharing scenes together is bound to be a masterclass in acting. However, when the two looked into each other’s eyes, they both went silent, leading to an awkward pause, making it the opposite of a great improvised movie moment.

While chatting about work and life during an episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the award-winning actress who Timothée Chalamet called one of the greats humanized Streep in a way that only someone on the talent level of Viola Davis could. She said:

In actor speak, “dropping the line” means that Streep either forgot or simply failed to deliver her next bit of dialogue, likely caught up in the moment, which is understandable in this case. Doubt is about the suspicion of child abuse at a Catholic school in New York in the early 1960s, and it delves into issues of faith and devotion, social class and sexuality, and a mother’s love for her child.

Portraying that subject matter means feelings will rise to the surface, and an actor’s job is all about embracing emotion. But if you get so caught up that you forget what you’re supposed to say next, take the lesson from Viola Davis’s experience on Doubt that you should just tell your scene partner, even if it’s Meryl Streep. Davis said:

Streep is hardly the first actor to forget his or her lines. In fact, there's a famous story of a stoned Ted Danson doing the same thing. Regardless, it clearly sounds like an awkward moment for her fellow actress.

Davis appears in one scene with Meryl Streep in Doubt, lasting for around 10 minutes, but clearly filming it took far longer. The screentime they share is electrifying and gut-wrenching because of what they’re not saying as much as what they are, so it's interesting a dropped line became so important.

Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt met while making 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada when Blunt was just 22 years old. The actress has previously recalled being very nervous about starring in the movie alongside the Oscar winner, but when she gave a “little chortle” at one of her line deliveries during the table read, it gave her the reassurance she needed.

Streep and Blunt recently got to reunite as their The Devil Wears Prada characters for the sequel, which was a smash hit at the box office. The movie has made $610 million globally in the past month against a reported production budget of $100 million. Worldwide, it’s the No. 5 highest-grossing movie of the year so far.

Blunt has another film on the 2026 movie release calendar on the way in June in the form of Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day. It hits theaters on June 12.

As you likely know, The Devil Wears Prada movies are loosely based on books by Lauren Weisberger, who was once an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. So ever since they’ve been out, there’s been question about whether Wintour was offended by Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley character. According to Anne Hathaway, the fashion icon has long been a very good sport about the whole thing.

Before The Devil Wears Prada hit theaters in 2006, Meryl Streep recently revealed that the production actually had difficulty landing designer clothes because the industry was scared to be affiliated with a movie that could take shots at the Vogue boss. However, as Hathaway further proved in a recent interview with Popcast, she handled the whole thing commendably. In her words:

This conversation is coming back up because The Devil Wears Prada 2 was just among 2026 movie releases. During the press tour, Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour actually did a joint cover for Vogue, showing that Wintour is A-OK with being associated with the comedy franchise. As Hathaway also added:

Anna Wintour has been complimentary to the film in other comments of hers as well. She said that she “found it highly enjoyable and very funny” when she first saw The Devil Wears Prada and called it a “fair shot.” When it came to the sequel’s release, she said she was excited for it because it “represents how important the world of fashion is”.

It also should be pointed out that while the book may be directly inspired by Wintour, Meryl Streep didn’t aim to embody the Vogue editor-in-chief. The Oscar winner actually based her performance on directors Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood, since they were both bosses she had that had a specific “command on the set” that stuck with her.

Now, when some of her former assistants have been asked how much Miranda Priestley is like Anna Wintour, one said “Yes, with an asterisk” while another said “there are shades” but it’s “sort of a different thing.” Ultimately, it sounds like there’s a bit of truth to the portrayal and some expected movie dramatization between Anna and Miranda. And the fact that Anna Wintour has not only seen the movie, but become friends with the cast and even endorsed the movies in her own ways, goes to show that the movie didn’t burn any bridges as a result of its existence. We love to see it!

I went into The Devil Wears Prada 2 as a fan of the original movie, hoping the new 2026 film would measure up to its 2006 predecessor. What I genuinely didn't expect was to find myself brimming with emotion at any point, but it happened, and of all of the people to trigger it... Miranda Priestly? Leave it to Meryl Streep to make that happen.

It's at this point that I offer a spoiler warning, as I can't explain what scene made me well up with emotion without at least a few The Devil Wears Prada 2 spoilers. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I do recommend catching a screening at a theater near you. Based on the opening weekend box office, plenty of people already have, but if you need more takes on the film, see what the critics are saying.

Among the numerous callbacks to the original film is the reminder of how close Nigel (Stanley Tucci) came to partnering with James Holt (Daniel Sunjata) on a major business venture toward the end of The Devil Wears Prada, until Miranda (Meryl Streep) changed up the plan at the last second to secure her own foothold on Runway.

Sadly, when Andy (Anne Hathaway) brought this situation up to Nigel in the sequel, he didn't seem to remember it at first, because it turns out that wasn't the last time Miranda had done something like that. In the case of the James Holt situation, as I interpreted it, it wasn't like Miranda was intentionally trying to hurt her right-hand man – she was the one to put him up for that opportunity, after all – but he was absolutely a casualty of her machinations, and it had to hurt. At the time, Nigel's response to Andy was to say, "When the time is right, she'll pay me back," though he could only hope that was true.

Here we are, twenty years later, and Nigel's clearly experienced more ups and downs in his relationship with Miranda. Ever faithful to her, Nigel had stood off to the side of the Runway leader for years, and it turns out, Miranda was blind to one major aspiration. It also seems clear from what happened with Emily – we learn that Miranda pushed her out of Runway by finding her another job – that she has a tendency to justify some of her manipulative behavior when it affects the people she cares about, as long as they come out of it ok. Of course, the people affected understandably don't always see it that way.

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, after Andy learned that Nigel actually wouldn't mind spending a little time in the spotlight, she relayed that information to Miranda when the perfect opportunity arose. This is near the end of the movie, when Miranda and Andy have to jet off before Miranda's able to deliver the keynote speech in Milan. When Andy suggests that Nigel do it, Miranda is at first dismissive of the idea, certain he wouldn't want to. After Andy suggests otherwise, Miranda seems stricken, and this is where I started to feel really emotional.

Streep's delivery of this line as Miranda looks ahead at where Nigel is standing broke my heart, and I'm still thinking about it. It's like she just realized she's missed something so completely obvious and feels awful about it. It's a redeeming moment for Miranda, for sure, and it only gets better now that she has a way to make it up to him.

For years, she's assumed incorrectly that Nigel was happy to be more of a behind-the-scenes person, and it somehow never occurred to her to consider otherwise. Maybe it's because Nigel genuinely does seem happy to work behind the scenes and literally walk behind Miranda when they're out in public, for the most part, but that doesn't mean he doesn't also want to step into the spotlight once in a while and receive the respect and recognition he's undoubtedly owed. It was a grave misjudgment on Miranda's part not to consider that sooner, and it's all over her face and in her voice when she realizes it.

Thinking back to the way Miranda's actions burned Nigel in the first movie -- one of the sadder notes for the story's ending -- I loved seeing Miranda recognize that she had something so major all wrong, and then seizing the opportunity to make it right and honor her friend. As much as it broke my heart to see her realization, it also filled it with joy to see her admit her mistake and make things right. I really think this might've been my favorite part in the whole movie.

Anyone who checked out last week’s box office numbers, when Michael Jackson told Mario to beat it, may be shocked to see just how much the Top 10 list has changed. Five of the movies that hit the 2026 movie schedule this weekend have claimed spots, giving the list below a major overhaul, with The Devil Wears Prada 2 slaying the competition as if it were a runway on fashion week. I’ll get into some interesting reasons why this debut was so significant, especially for Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.

Despite relinquishing their previous box office spots, Michael crossed another milestone this week after moonwalking over records in its first three days, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surpassed $400 million domestically after five weekends.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Makes That Box Office Crown Look Good

The Devil Wears Prada 2 didn’t need Crisco or fishing line to slide right into that No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend, earning $77 million domestically, per The Numbers, as it strutted right past the $66 million projections from last week. That gives Miranda Priestly and company the fourth-best start of 2026:

1. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: $131 million (April 1)
2. Michael: $97.5 million (May 24)
3. Project Hail Mary: $80 million (March 20)
4. The Devil Wears Prada 2: $77 million (May 1)

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s reunion picked up another $156.6 million from markets outside of the U.S. and Canada to earn a worldwide total of $233.6 million. Not only did that beat out the rest of the week’s movies, but it stomped all over its 2006 predecessor.

The Devil Wears Prada: Then And Now

This weekend’s $77 million premiere for the sequel eclipsed The Devil Wears Prada’s 2006 domestic box office pull of $27.5 million. In fact, the original movie that has had us quoting Miranda Priestly, Nigel Kipling and the rest of the Runway gang for 20 years ended its global run with $326 million. With The Devil Wears Prada 2’s worldwide opening of $233.6 million, it’s already 72% of the way to earning more than the original.

The current movie does, however, have a bigger budget to make back. The first movie was reportedly made for around $40 million, while The Devil Wears Prada 2 carried a much larger price tag of $100 million (most of which, according to The New York Times, went to cast salaries). Compare them all you like, but there’s no arguing they’re both box office wins.

No Marvel? No Problem.

There’s another interesting metric when it comes to this weekend’s box office winner. This is the first time a film marketed toward women has won the first weekend of May, Deadline points out, with the summer opener typically dominated by Marvel. The MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday was originally scheduled for this weekend before being pushed to December. Here are some past examples, per Box Office Mojo:

The Devil Wears Prada 2 had no problem filling those big shoes, as its global $233.6 million also reportedly served as the biggest opening weekend ever for Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, respectively beating Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’s $90 million from 2018, and Oppenheimer’s $176 million opening in 2023.

Michael And Mario Are Still Going Strong

Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie may have dropped a spot to the almighty Devil sequel, but there’s no reason for concern. The Michael Jackson biopic earned another $54 million domestically — falling just 44% from last weekend — for a domestic total so far of $183.8. Add an additional $240.1 million internationally to cross the $400 million mark with a worldwide total of $423.9 million.

Deadline reports that by the end of Monday, May 4, Michael will become Lionsgate’s biggest domestic title post-pandemic, knocking off John Wick: Chapter 4 ($187.1 million).

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surpassed $400 million domestically this weekend, now standing at $402.7 million and nearing the $900 million mark globally with $894.2 million.

What Critics And Audiences Thought Of This Weekend’s Other Premieres

There were several other movies that premiered this weekend, and while they might not have been as big as The Devil Wears Prada 2, they certainly mixed things up in the Top 10. Hokum may have gotten a push from positive reviews for its 5th-place finish, so let’s take a look at how all of this week’s premieres scored on Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore:

Other than Animal Farm — Andy Serkis’ animated book-to-screen adaptation of the George Orwell classic starring Seth Rogen — audiences seemed pleased with the weekend’s offerings. We’ll have to see which ones can hang on with summer blockbusters on the way.

What Competition Will Next Week’s Releases Offer?

So what titles are coming next weekend that might challenge The Devil Wears Prada 2 or possibly break the stronghold that Michael, Mario and Project Hail Mary have on the Top 5? Mortal Kombat II, starring The Boys’ Karl Urban is on deck, as well as another book adaptation in The Sheep Detectives, which boasts a stacked cast and bonkers trailer.

The upcoming video game adaptation is expected to make between $40 million and $50 million, per Box Office Theory, which would have it competing for the top spot. The Sheep Detectives, meanwhile, is expecting $10 million to $16 million.

Of course, we’re also already looking ahead a couple of weeks to The Mandalorian and Grogu. The Star Wars spinoff is looking at anywhere between $71 million and $100 million when it arrives in theaters on May 22, and at face value that seems like a win. However, in a franchise that’s used to films that break into the billions by the end of their runs, will The Mandalorian and Grogu be seen as a failure?

Kelly: Andy and Emily Back On Screen Together

I absolutely loved the dynamic between Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt's characters in the original movie. I was so excited to see them reconnect in this one, and the sequel definitely didn't disappoint!

Riley: Hearing Miranda Say "That's All"

I was waiting with bated breath to hear how Miranda used her catchphrase "That's all" in The Devil Wears Prada 2. To this day, I live in fear of her and those two words. And I have to say, the way it's used in this sequel is incredible.

Sarah: Does Miranda Remember Andy?

I don't really know what I was expecting from this movie, but I couldn't wait to see everyone back together. As soon as the first trailer dropped, I was so curious about Miranda and Andy's relationship 20 years later, and if Miranda actually remembered her.

Favorite Quote: "Look what TJ Maxx dragged in." -Nigel

Riley: I felt both personally victimized and thoroughly amused when Nigel said this. As someone who shops on a budget and is big on saving money where I can, I do shop at stores like TJ Maxx. Therefore, I was slightly offended by Nigel's barb toward Andy when she showed up at Runway. However, I also found it so funny, and it was such a lovely way to reintroduce the two friends, because it was so very on brand.

I Want To Talk About Andy and Peter

Kelly: I don't know that I needed Andy to have a romance in the sequel, but I really liked the dynamic between her and Peter (Patrick Brammall). I also liked the way things sort of went a similar way to how things went with Andy and Nate -- with Andy and Peter having a disagreement focused on how she prioritizes her work -- except, unlike how it went with Nate in the original movie, she and Peter worked it out. I think that shows growth!

Sarah: I don't know. I thought the Peter and Andy storyline were a pretty unnecessary part of the movie – mostly because I thought their romance was one note. I only liked it for the line at the end where Andy says she wants to be imperfect together.

Callback: Bubby's!

The restaurant where Andy meets her friends in The Devil Wears Prada 2 is Bubby's, and it's the place where Nate worked in the original movie.

Hang On, Was The Devil Wears Prada 2 Kind Of A Bummer?

Riley: As someone who has worked in the journalism industry for many years, I’m well aware of the ups and downs it's been through, and the bleak state it’s in at the moment. So, I was surprised when The Devil Wears Prada 2 didn’t avoid that situation at all. In fact, it ran right toward it. So, yes, it was a bummer to watch Miranda and Andy struggle with the business challenges that the media industry is literally facing. However, it by no means ruined the movie. In fact, it helped make it better because it really gave viewers something to ponder.

Kelly: I totally agree. I was curious to see if the movie would address the massive changes to journalism and magazines in the time between 2006 and now. It definitely went the direct route!

Sarah: This was an ice cold moment, and has stuck with me ever since seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2. Emily and Miranda have always had a contentious relationship, and I it felt like this line stung like a knife to the back for Emily.

Was Miranda Too Nice In The Devil Wears Prada 2?

Sarah: This is a topic a lot of people are already talking about. I know I personally really loved seeing a new, more layered and messy side of Miranda this time around. I think it actually made sense because Andy has a much higher position, so of course she'd see more to Miranda. Plus, there's something very realistic and grounded about this being a part of her life where she's not quite at the height in her career she used to be.

Riley: I was personally taken aback by how not-mean Miranda was in this movie. She was playing defense and trying to appease the powers above her, and that meant she had to play nice. However, knowing how difficult things were at Runway, I get why she was acting that way. Although I have to admit, it was very odd seeing Meryl Streep’s character acting nicer and more accommodating than she was in the first movie.

Favorite Quote: "Charlie, what did we say about laughing?" Amari

I’m actually obsessed with Simone Ashley, and I loved seeing her as the nononsense assistant in this movie. She absolutely killed it. However, nothing was funnier than seeing her say this line to Caleb Heron's Charlie. Plus, this whole interaction was giving me flashbacks to Emily and Andy's early days at Runway, which made me feel a delightful sense of nostalgia.

The Emily Twist

Kelly: For a minute, it seemed like Emily and Andy were actually on the same page and working together to save Runway. Nope. I wasn't prepared to discover there was some unresolved conflict between Emily and Miranda, but it definitely made for an entertaining twist.

Sarah: Yeah, I did not see this coming at all, but I thought it was delicious once it did happen, because of course it would. The twist really highlighted the themes of how a cutthroat industry like fashion and journalism can mean you can't trust anyone. But, ultimately I loved how things ended with the pair going to lunch together and Emily disclosing that she wanted to be "friends" with Andy back in the day.

Favorite Quote: "I can't believe there's someone named candle!" - Benji

Kelly: Was it me or did Justin Theroux's character get more ridiculous with each scene he was in? Benji mishearing the name Kendall as "candle" caught me off guard. That ridiculousness was just a prelude to his loud conversation about wanting to explore the sun on a ship called Icarus. Honestly.

Who Was The MVP Of The Devil Wears Prada 2? And Why Was It Nigel

Riley: From the jump, Stanley Tucci’s performance was my favorite part of this movie. I mean, his line deliveries were next level AND his outfits were obviously amazing. However, he ended up being the MVP because he got Andy, his “favorite girl,” her job at Runway. Talk about sweet! Along with that, he also finally got what he deserved at Runway, as Miranda realized his worth and asked him to give that big speech. Overall, this movie proved that Nigel is not just an invaluable part of Runway, he’s also one of the main people keeping it alive. So, yeah, Nigel was no doubt the MVP of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Sarah: So true! This movie definitely elevated Nigel for me even more than the first time around.

Kelly: And since we're talking about Nigel, I loved that Andy helped Miranda see that her right-hand-man wouldn't mind a moment in the spotlight every once in a while, especially right when there was an opportunity for her to give it to him. It was such a touching moment seeing Miranda insist he give the speech. It let Nigel know he's appreciated. ❤️

Callback: Miranda and Andy Having A Heart-To-Heart In A Car

Sarah: This piece of nostalgia from The Devil Wears Prada 2 totally worked on me. There's something so bittersweet about both times that Miranda and Andy have a rarely deep conversation together. This time it was about Miranda sharing with Andy that she wants her to write her book if she chooses to.

So…Is Andy Gonna Write That Book?

Riley: Even though Miranda was fine with the book being written, I wasn’t sure if Andy would really want to. However, upon further reflection, I do think Anne Hathaway’s character will write this book. She has Miranda’s blessing, and I do think she can do it in a way that holds nothing back, but also isn’t a project that totally ruins her boss.

Kelly: I kind of took it as a bit more open-ended. I believe Miranda meant it when she said Andy could write the book. I loved the way she said "I love working." I also appreciated how she talked about her career coming at a price, and maybe people should know that. At the same time, I'm not sure if I think Andy's going to jump on that book deal right away, but maybe sometime down the line.

Favorite Callback: Andy's Cerulean Sweater

I loved that the movie ended with Andy walking through the offices wearing a cerulean sweater. And I especially loved the twist they put on her outfit. The cut-up sweater with the perfectly fit jeans was perfection. In fact, it looked like a fit that even Miranda approved of. Considering the number of iconic lines The Devil Wears Prada has, I was waiting with bated breath to see how they’d call back to them in the sequel that just premiered on the 2026 movie schedule. So, you can imagine the surprise I felt when a lot of the references and easter eggs were very tasteful and fairly subtle. However, there was a callback to one of the original’s most iconic lines that left my jaw on the floor because of how savage it was.

I’m, of course, talking about the singular use of Miranda’s “That’s all.” So, let’s break down the line’s history and why it packed such an intense punch in the well-reviewed Devil Wears Prada 2.

The Iconic Devil Wears Prada Line I’m Talking About

So, I don’t know about you, but there’s one quote in The Devil Wears Prada that I was desperate to see in the sequel, it’s Miranda Priestly's iconic line:

Two quietly said words have never carried more disdain. And quite literally every time I’ve watched this great movie from the 2000s – whether it be on DVD or with a Disney+ subscription – they leave me feeling severe anxiety on behalf of Andy. However, no delivery of “That’s all” hit me harder than how it’s used in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

How ‘That’s All’ Was Used In The Most Brutal Way In The Devil Wears Prada 2

For a good portion of The Devil Wears Prada 2, I was waiting for Miranda to say “That’s all” in that calm and quiet voice that’s apparently inspired by Clint Eastwood. However, it wasn’t happening, and she was playing defense to save Runway for most of the movie. Unlike in the first film, she’s not a titan of business; she’s a boss who is simply trying to keep her publication alive and stay up with the rapidly changing times. So, I just figured the old Miranda wasn’t fully around this time.

And then Emily tried to take Runway by having her boyfriend Benji buy it, and the claws came out. Here’s what Miranda said about Emily trying to steal Runway, not save it, like Andy thought she was:

Then, as Emily tried to turn down this claim, Miranda said that she felt like Emily Blunt's character knew she was right, and after saying all that, Meryl Streep's editor-in-chief ended the conversation with:

Ouch! That hurt! It was also especially lethal because it's the only time "That's all" is said in the sequel.

However, I do think Emily needed a bit of a reality check. She really went to great lengths to try to take Runway, but thankfully, her plan was thwarted by Andy and her passion for journalism, and Miranda and her ruthless quest to keep her job. And I have to say, saving the “That’s all” for this moment made it both impactful and absolutely savage. Seriously, my jaw was on the floor over this.

Not only was it a stern reality check for Emily, but it was also a brutal (complimentary) reminder that ultimately, Miranda Priestly is the boss and you DO NOT mess with her.

In the twenty years since Meryl Streep debuted her role as Miranda Priestly in the first The Devil Wears Prada, the character has come to be known as one of the best female villains in movie history. In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Miranda isn’t quite the intimidating boss that she was in the first film. Oh, good point! While we might automatically think of a character like Miranda as the villain, Meryl Streep brought up that people often live in the grey areas in between good and bad, and she actually likes it that way. As she added:

It’s interesting too that she specifically brings up Marvel as perhaps one reason why audiences think of characters as the hero and villain. It definitely makes me wonder what Meryl Streep’s thoughts are about superhero movies, and the fact that there continuously are upcoming Marvel movies on the movie schedule really does make us think differently about the movies and TV shows we consume.

I mean, superhero movies are sort of our modern legends, aren’t they? Before there were comic books, there were fairytales and folklore with definitive good and bad characters and before that there were things like mythological and biblical characters of a similar nature. Certainly, I doubt Meryl Streep is blaming the tale as old as time storytelling method of good vs. evil to Marvel, but I do think it’s an interesting way to point out this tendency.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 certainly does have a layered approach to each of its characters and that’s certainly part of why reviews have been positive about it. While the character is widely thought to be a portrayal of Anna Wintour, Streep actually based her on Clint Eastwood and Mike Nichols.

The day before The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiered on the 2026 movie schedule, the stars were out on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate two of its stars, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. However, while that’s lovely, the moment we’re going to focus on today is the funny wardrobe oopsie Dwayne Johnson had right before he got up to give his Jungle Cruise co-star her tribute.

As per tradition, when a star gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, many of their colleagues come out to give speeches and honor them. For Emily Blunt, this lineup included The Rock, who she’s worked a few times. However, before he said a bunch of very nice things about her, he had to address the wardrobe mishap in the room as he explained (via Hello Magazine):

After he said that, someone yelled at him that the “podium’s got you,” meaning, it was hiding the stain from the drink. So, really, Dwayne Johnson was fine. No one could see it while he was talking. However, he continued to address it, saying:

Listen, I can’t blame him for mentioning this. As you can see in the photo above and the clip of this moment, he’s wearing a very light suit, which means stains will be visible if a spill happens. So, I totally get where he was coming from, and I thought he handled it with humor and grace.

Then, after that, he tried to move on, recalling how he and Matt Damon were talking about how “awesome” and “cool” this honor is for Blunt and Tucci. However, it did come back around to his pants, as he pointed down to them and said:

Well, that was sweet (and silly too), it also added to the wonderful event that was this Walk of Fame ceremony. Along with Johnson, who worked with Blunt on Jungle Cruise and The Smashing Machine, her fellow Oppenheimer cast members, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr., showed up to honor her. Plus, Meryl Streep was there too to share kind words about both her Devil Wears Prada co-stars.

Also, seeing as Tucci and Blunt are in-laws (he is married to her sister), they were able to make this double-star ceremony a family affair. Plus, Tucci’s wife, Felicity Blunt, and Emily Blunt’s husband, John Krasinski, were there as well.

So, all around, it was a star-studded affair full of love and one tiny wardrobe mishap. However, that keeps things fun, especially when The Rock used it to make a great comedic moment during the ceremony.

It’s been 20 years since Andy Sachs first walked into the offices of Runway Magazine to meet the devil herself, Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. These characters have stood the test of time — providing us two decades’ worth of deliciously savage quotes — and now they’re reunited in the sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2. Critics have seen the movie ahead of its release on the 2026 movie calendar, so does this flick fit like a designer glove, or is it as groundbreaking as florals in spring?

The Runway gang is back, though things have certainly changed for the characters played by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Taylor Gates of Collider laughed a lot and had a great time with The Devil Wears Prada 2, though it’s not as sharp or clever as its predecessor. Gates rates it 8 out of 10, saying Blunt is a scene-stealer who’s full of “savage surprises.” The critic continues:

Michael Peyton of IGN gives it a “Good” 7 out of 10, noting how easily the cast slips back into these iconic characters, and while it’s an enjoyable ride, Peyton says it’s all very reminiscent of the first film. From the music to the editing, it all feels familiar — from frenetic Andy montages to a closet full of meme-worthy one-liners. The critic writes:

Many critics seem to have enjoyed the movie, giving it high marks, but like the above review, Brian Truitt of USA TODAY can’t seem to get past how it mostly sticks with what worked in 2006. Still, Truitt gives the sequel —one of many sequels coming in 2026 — 3 out of 4 stars, citing plenty of easter eggs, a clear-eyed portrayal of today’s media landscape, fun cameos and colorful clothing. However, he says:

Guy Lodge of Variety agrees there’s a lot of fun to be had in seeing Meryl Streep’s return as Miranda Priestly, but it’s hard to see this follow-up having a similar cultural impact to what The Devil Wears Prada did. In Lodge’s words:

Kate Erbland of IndieWire gives the movie a C+, saying that, like a bad fashion piece, the shape is there, but “the details are dreadful.” She can’t argue with the appeal of seeing Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep play off of each other again, though, and if you loved the first film, this is definitely worth the watch. That’s mostly because The Devil Wears Prada 2 basically apes its predecessor beat for beat, just without the original spunk. Erbland writes:

The critics seem to agree that the cast shows up and satisfies in how they slip back into their characters from 2006. However, it sounds like the sequel doesn’t offer up much by way of original story, outside of some commentary on the state of journalism.

However, there’s quite a few ways Anna and Miranda are different. For example, Meryl Streep actually based Miranda on Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood. The author behind Anna Wintour’s biography just brought up one thing Miranda does that is “very un-Anna.”

Amy Odell, who wrote Anna: The Biography, just pointed out something she noticed while rewatching The Devil Wears Prada. In Miranda’s grand entrance early in the movie, she’s seen with a white Prada bag with the logo on it visible. Check it out:

Of course, in the context of a movie called The Devil Wears Prada, it makes perfect sense that Miranda Priestly’s first moment would be her literally donning the brand. And, while Anna Wintour surely inspired the character, Miranda is her own fictional character at the end of the day, and the movie had no need to get all the specificities correct.

Odell’s comments come as The Devil Wears Prada sequel arrives in one of the new 2026 movies coming to theaters this weekend. It comes twenty years after the original movie, and this time Anna Wintour was actually part of the marketing when she posed in Vogue with Meryl Streep for an interview tied to the release. During their cover story, Streep revealed that it was actually hard to get clothes secured for the original movie because “everybody was afraid of Anna” and perhaps what it would mean to be tied to a movie that might be making fun of the icon.

When Anna Wintour was asked about what she thinks about The Devil Wears Prada 2 coming out, she said she was “thrilled” because of how the movie franchise shows how important the world of fashion is. Along with Streep, The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Lady Gaga and much more. Being Anna Wintour’s assistant is not for the faint of heart, at least, that’s what The Devil Wears Prada will tell you. The novel, which was later adapted into a movie, follows Andrea Sachs, who becomes the assistant to the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, Miranda Priestly. While the material is considered fictional, the book is based on the author Lauren Weisberger’s real-life experience as Wintour’s assistant at Vogue. Now, some of her other former assistants are speaking out and revealing if their experiences were similar to the one recounted in the famed story.

In an interview with Vogue, four of Wintour’s assistants from over the years sat down to answer burning questions like what their job interviews were like, how demanding the job is, and what the famed fashion editor was really like. The assistants, all of whom have high-ranking positions at the fashion magazine now, were honest and open about the expectations of the gig, but were hesitant to compare their experiences to the ones shown in The Devil Wears Prada, even though it’s a question they get a lot. They said:

• Sache Taylor: "The first question is, ‘Is it just like the movie?’"
• Marley Marius: "I feel like the answer was kind of like, ‘No.’ I mean like…"
• Sammi Tapper: "I say, ‘Yes.’"
• Sache Taylor: "Yes, with an asterisk."

So it seems like there are similarities between their own experiences and the fictionalized version of the job, but it’s not exactly the same.

There are several likely reasons for this. The book was written over 20 years ago, so there are certainly things that have changed culturally over time, and the experience of one person won’t always reflect the entire job experience as a whole. Marley Marius, who is now Senior Editor of Features and News at Vogue, elaborated further slightly, saying:

For anyone who hasn’t seen the movie or read the book, Miranda Priestly is portrayed by Meryl Streep as a tyrannical leader who has outsized expectations for her assistants. She is overly particular about her food, she asks them to achieve the impossible, like getting the Harry Potter novel before it is released, and bullies them for their fashion sense. Her assistants lose their personal lives, as well as their minds in pursuit of pleasing her. So the movie isn’t exactly a flattering portrait of someone like Anna Wintour.

Despite all this, there remains an intrigue behind the position. People still vie for the heavily competitive role in hopes of rising up the ranks at Vogue, and Anna Wintour has seemingly embraced Streep's portrayal. She even appeared next to Streep dressed as Miranda Priestly on the cover of Vogue to help promote the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Whether or not Wintour is truly the personality that she appears to be in the film is seemingly still up for interpretation, but if anything, this has only created more mystique around her.

When it comes to awards shows in the entertainment world, people say that it’s an honor just to be nominated. I’ve begun to believe that more and more over the years, and now I know it’s even more true than I thought, because it turns out sometimes being nominated can be near impossible. That became clear when I learned about an Emmy rule that has made it so one of Meryl Streep's performances can't be recognized this year.

Every award show needs to have rules regarding what it takes to be nominated for a given award, and those rules will always change over time in an attempt to find the most appropriate balance. However, one recent rule change regarding acting nominations for the Emmys really doesn’t seem right, as it's arguably screwed over a lot of great performances.

The Emmys Made A Change To Its Guest Performer Rules

Variety reveals that at the beginning of 2025, the TV Academy, which runs the Emmys, made a rule change that stated that an actor who previously had been nominated for a Lead or Supporting acting Emmy could not submit their name in the Guest Performance category for the same role. The problem, according to one veteran publicist, is that it keeps dramatic performances from multi-season series out, while still leaving the door open to say, a former Saturday Night Live cast member who returns to host the show. They said…

One major example of this is Meryl Streep. She was nominated for Supporting Comedy Actress for Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. Then, she returned as the same character in a guest star capacity for the next two seasons. However, the rule made her ineligible to submit for Guest Performance for Season 4 of the show, and she isn’t eligible for Season 5 for the same reason.

The rule also bars James Marsden, who was nominated for Supporting Drama Actor for the first season of Hulu’s Paradise. He only appeared in two episodes of Season 2, which wouldn’t qualify him for the supporting category this year, but he can't be submitted for Guest Performance either because of the rule.

At the same time, somebody like Amy Poehler, who was nominated for Emmys more than once for her years as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, can be submitted as a Guest Performance for hosting a Season 51 episode, because as the “host,” she’s not playing the same role.

It has to be said, this rule does feel like splitting hairs. It’s an odd punishment for success because if Meryl Streep or James Marsden hadn’t had their larger performances deemed worthy of nomination, they would be fully eligible to be nominated in the Guest role. It also doesn’t appear that the rule works in reverse. If somebody is nominated in the Guest Performance role and is then promoted to a larger role in a later season, the double nomination appears to be possible.

Emmy nominations for this year will be announced in July. If your favorite Guest Performance isn’t nominated, it’s worth remembering that it may not be because it wasn’t great, it may have just been against the rules.

Streep ended up calling her back after reading the script and telling the fashion icon “Anna, I think it’s going to be all right” without getting into details about the movie, and Wintour trusted the actress “implicitly.”

Not only was Wintour clued in by Meryl Streep about the sequel, she also linked up with Meryl at Milan Fashion Week while they were filming. Wintour has said she feels “assured” by what she's heard from the cast and how it “represents how important the world of fashion is.”

For the time being, we don’t know much about how The Devil Wears Prada 2 will handle Miranda Priestley two decades later. However, in the profile, Streep said the movie has a “real” and “triumphant” ending for her famed character. The sequel, of course, also stars Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt and many more exciting new cast members, and hits theaters on May 1.

For years, the accepted fact has been that Meryl Streep was embodying Vogue editor Anna Wintour when she stepped into Miranda Priestly’s shoes for The Devil Wears Prada. There are entire comment boards dedicated to people discussing how other real-life fashion icons refused cameos in the 2006 movie because they were afraid of offending Wintour. The fashionista in question has even been asked for her thoughts on The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now, however, Meryl Streep is saying we’ve had it wrong this entire time.

Like, to be clear, she’s saying even Anna Wintour’s had it wrong. Per Streep herself, when she was crafting the character of Miranda Priestly, while that character certainly has similarities in terms of job functionality and reputation, she did not actually design her character to be like the Vogue editor. She said during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert:

This is a big surprise to me. Even as recently as last year, Anna Wintour certainly thought Miranda Priestly was a take on her persona in the fashion industry, calling it a “fair shot.” Yet, Streep is adamant during her Late Show appearance that she mixed some of famous director Mike Nichols’ humor with Clint Eastwood’s soft-spoken seriousness. She went on to tell Colbert:

Streep confirms she’s been open and honest about this with the people who matter for years, telling Stephen Colbert she’s never specifically told Clint Eastwood, but she did get the chance to tell a “thrilled” Nichols. However, I do think it’s worth pointing out she’s played up the Anna Wintour/Miranda Priestly similarities herself over the years. There was even the time she went as Priestly at a fashion show and met with Wintour.

What Is Going On With This Anna Wintour And Mike Nichols Disconnect?

Two things can be true at once, however. The Devil Wears Prada is actually a book-to-screen adaptation of a book by Lauren Weisberger. Weisberger actually came up in the fashion industry in New York, and worked as a personal assistant to Anna Wintour before publishing her “fictional” book. So, the source material that Streep was working with was likely Winter-esque, and then Streep added her own flair based on her personal experiences. This has to be the explanation; however, given how much I love this movie, it’s wild I’ve never heard Streep’s take before.

Honestly, to hear her say her character is not based on the famed Vogue editor is a total trip.

It’s been 20 years, but anticipation for this title is high, not only because the main cast is coming back, but also because it’s part of Anne Hathaway’s insane year of movies. I’ve been anticipating how the cast would approach red carpets during this press tour, and the first look of their tour doesn’t disappoint, especially because Anne Hathaway's outfit seems to connect to the original movie.

If there’s any press tour on the 2026 movie schedule where we’d expect to see high fashion, it’s The Devil Wears Prada 2. And, we just got our first look from it when Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep started things off in Mexico City. Check out their fits:

These two look incredible. The real looker here, though, is unquestionably those thigh-high boots Anne Hathaway has on, paired with a sparkly minidress. Per Harper’s Bazaar, the Princess Diaries star is wearing a Stella McCartney ensemble that recently debuted on the runway at the brand’s Fall/Winter 2026 ready-to-wear collection. As someone who recently rewatched the original Devil Wears Prada, it wasn’t hard to clock how the look is actually an awesome nod to Andy Sachs.

How I Think Her Look References The Original Movie

When Andy Sachs first starts at Runway in The Devil Wears Prada, she doesn’t care too much about fashion, but not fitting in the office starts to get to her over time. So, she ends up going to Stanley Tucci’s Nigel for styling help. Then, the first outfit she wears that marks her transition into being a fashionista includes thigh-high boots. Take a look:

The best part of the outfit reveal is when a funny exchange happens between Andy and the other assistants when she walks into the office. Here’s the exchange:

• Emily: "Are you wearing the cha-"
• Andy: "The Chanel boots? Yeah, I am."
• Serena: "You look good... What? She does?"
• Emily: "Oh, shut up, Serena."

This reference to this scene is actually perfect because it was the moment when Andy Sachs really started to own her position and fit in rather than let herself get pushed around. I love that it feels like it takes inspiration from the original movie, but she’s not fully cosplaying as her character from 2006. Honestly, this feels like a note out of Zendaya’s method dressing playbook that’s become rather common on press tours. It’s definitely a whole new look that we’re seeing in Mexico City and much more Anne Hathaway than Andy Sachs.

After this appearance, we expect Hathaway, Streep and the rest of the star-studded cast to deliver many more chic red carpet moments throughout April ahead of the movie’s release on May 1. I Had A Big Takeaway When I Revisited The Original Movie

When I watched The Devil Wears Prada this time around, what was different for me is this time I was thinking about how the sequel could forward the stories told in the original. And, what really stuck out to me was the fraught relationships between Anne Hathaway’s Andy, Emily Blunt’s Emily and Meryl Streep’s Miranda.

I have no notes on how realistic they feel to how it might be in the cut-throat fashion magazine industry. But, yeah, it’s kind of a bummer that these women never form real relationships with each other by the end of the movie. It does feel like there’s an unspoken respect between them that’s touched on, but never outwardly explored.

For example, it seems like Miranda feels like she cannot show weakness in order to keep her intimidating presence and status intact, so she never gets close to Emily and Andy. Though at the end, Miranda does give Andy a glowing reference that helps her land her next job. Emily seems threatened by Andy throughout the film, and yet Andy gives Emily all the clothes she got during her trip to Paris when she leaves the position.

Overall, rewatching it got me thinking about how, in 2006, doing whatever you had to do for the hustle was pretty normalized in order to survive. And how in the past twenty years, there’s a different societal viewpoint on how much of our lives we should be giving to our 9-to-5’s. I mean, I don’t even think the idea of “work-life balance” would have been in Andy, Miranda or Emily’s vocabulary at the time. And, the idea of women lifting up other women in the workplace, even in small ways, was probably pretty revolutionary.

My One Wish For The Devil Wears Prada 2

I, of course, wouldn’t change the original The Devil Wears Prada for anything. I actually think it was quite ahead of its time in the way it dove into what it takes to be a woman in power at that time, and honestly, still is, in a lot of ways. But what I would like to see from the sequel is a continued exploration of this topic.

As far as Miranda goes, we know from the trailer that she claims not to remember Andy. I do wonder also if Miranda will let her guard down at some point and have a moment with Andy where their relationship will finally get to move past the boss/assistant dynamic, but I’m kind of OK if Miranda keeps being Miranda since she’s from the older generation, and it would be realistically more difficult for her to change her ways.

With that in mind, I would love for there to be a scene, particularly between Andy and Emily, in a way that allows them to reflect on being pitted against each other, now that they are older and more mature. I think it would be really cathartic and healing for other women who grew up on the movie to see them become friends (or at least allies) now that both of them have reached success in their careers, and perhaps help break the toxic cycle for the young assistants they must have themselves.

Anyways, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is definitely one of my most anticipated 2026 sequels, and we’ll see what happens when it comes to theaters on May 1.

It's impossible to think about The Devil Wears Prada book-to-screen adaptation without immediately thinking about Meryl Streep's performance as the glamorous and formidable Miranda Priestly. The Oscar winner brought this powerful and intimidating character to life so perfectly, and in addition to giving us a top-tier performance, she also apparently adjusted one of the more memorable lines in a movie that's positively brimming with memorable lines.

Near the end of the film, Anne Hathaway's character Andy is exhausted and more weary about her job than ever before following a rollercoaster ride of events during the Paris trip. When Miranda talks to her about the tough choices they have to make to get ahead, Andy questions whether she wants to be like Miranda, Streep's character responds:

Apparently, that line was just a little bit different, but the change made to it transforms the meaning in a big way.

In the bonus features on the Devil Wears Prada DVD, there's a featurette where screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna explains what the original line was, and why Meryl Streep suggested a change to it:

It wasn't until the final read-through that Streep delivered the iconic line we see her give just before she puts her sunglasses on and prepares to face the photographers awaiting her arrival:

Honestly, I'm trying to imagine Miranda saying "Everybody wants to be me," and I really think the impact would've been so different. By changing "me" to "us," the meaning of the statement shifts, as Brosh McKenna pointed out, from Miranda referring to her life specifically, to the seemingly glamorous world they're living at the center of. I also think the change helps emphasize what Andy is actually walking away from, as she chooses to separate herself from the "us" Miranda is referring to, and not just Miranda.

We're a little bit over a month away from The Devil Wears Prada 2 arriving on the 2026 movie schedule, and I don't know about you, but I absolutely can't wait. Based on the trailer, it's looking like we'll be getting even more great scenes and hopefully iconic moments between Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt. I absolutely can't wait! That's all.

Ever since The Devil Wears Prada 2 was confirmed, fans have been curious about what’s next for Miranda and Andy’s relationship following the end of the original movie. As of late, the marketing has made me more confused (and intrigued) than ever, especially amid all those set photo leaks. However, a new interview moment has given me a reason to read between the lines and make a guess about the relationship between these characters.

What Anne Hathaway And Stanley Tucci Say About Miranda Forgetting Andy

About a month ago, one The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer unveiled a scene where Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs goes on what seems to be another interview with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley. But, in a funny hook/twist, Miranda apparently doesn’t even remember her former assistant. When the scene was brought up during an interview with Fandango, Hathaway and co-star Stanley Tucci said the following:

Stanley Tucci: “I don’t know what we can and can’t say, to be honest, but…”

Anne Hathaway: “We laughed so hard doing that scene that I had to do that thing where you start laughing and you can’t stop. And like, everyone’s waiting to go to lunch, and they can’t go to lunch.”

Stanley Tucci: “What’s beautiful about Meryl’s performance is that you’re not really sure if she does remember or doesn’t remember. And so, it’ll be up to the audience to decide for themselves.”

Tucci getting worried about what he “can and can’t say” and Hathaway pivoting to filming the scene rather than talking about it? Oh, there’s something here for sure.

What I Think This Could Mean For The Devil Wears Prada 2

In my opinion, the responses from the actors only underlined the thinking that something was off in that trailer. This isn't simply some kind of gag, which can't go throughout the entirety of the film. My theory is Miranda knows who Andy is from the second she walks in there. Yet, in order to protect her pride and the intimidating authority that she feels she must hold in order to maintain her status, Prisestly isn't aiming to admit she remembers one of her former assistants.

I also think there’s a subtle moment that Tucci plays in that scene where he kind of looks surprised by Miranda “not remembering” and then nods his head. Now that Hathaway and Tucci have been asked to talk about it and have gone all politician on us with the answer, I just know there’s more to this.

However, Tucci’s comments do have me wondering if there will ever be a moment where Miranda and Andy do get to reconcile their relationship and talk about the past. On, on the other hand, Miranda’s blank slate could mean she’ll never really change her professional dynamic with Andy. I think the former will play out, but we’ll have to wait and see.

This week, an incredible The Devil Wears Prada 2 popcorn purse was unveiled, as tickets officially went on sale. Also, per a new rumor, the legacy sequel is “testing very well.” I'm excited to see whether my theory ends up coming true, and fans will find out when the film opens in theaters on May 1 amid the 2026 movie schedule.

In the run-up to the theatrical release of Hoppers this past weekend, one of the most talked about aspects of the new movie was a certain multi-Oscar-winning member of the cast: Meryl Streep. When the first trailer for the movie was released last year, it prominently featured Streep’s character, the butterfly known as the Insect Queen, and it was suggested that the legendary actress was going to have an important role to play.

Fast forward to audiences actually seeing the film, and it turns out that the Insect Queen is killed in her very first scene – a death that is arguably the most shocking in Pixar history.

I was so taken aback by the development that I felt compelled to ask about it when I participated in the Los Angeles press day for Hoppers last month and spoke with director Daniel Chong, producer Nicole Grindle, and stars Piper Curda and Bobby Moynihan (as captured in the video at the top of this article). Discussing the surprise twist with the character, Chong explained that it was always a planned part of the film, and he was worried that the small size of the part would turn Meryl Streep off when he pitched her the part. Said the filmmaker,

There’s an old adage among performers that “there are no small parts, only small actors,” and it would seem that Meryl Streep abides by that philosophy. Chong may have been concerned that the small size of her role would be a turn-off, but he actually got the opposite response. He continued,

In Hoppers, it really is a perfectly delivered surprise. Just when it seems like the Insect Queen is ready to become the movie’s principal antagonist and have animal kind rise up against humanity – a role worthy of the great Meryl Streep – she ends up getting squished between Mabel’s robot beaver paws. Nobody could see it coming, and it’s an amazing shock that opens the door for Dave Franco’s Titus to be the big bad (and become part of Pixar history with a scary moment that will haunt the nightmares of a generation).

In reflection, Daniel Chong was greatly impressed by Meryl Streep’s appreciation of the small but excellent part, and he thinks that her casting enhances the film is multiple ways:

I couldn’t agree more.

Audiences are about to take a trip into the minds of the animals when Pixar’s Hoppers hits the 2026 movie calendar. The premise of the upcoming kids movie puts 19-year-old Mabel’s mind inside a robotic beaver in order to communicate with other animals and save their habitat. Critics have screened the movie ahead of its March 6 release, and fans should get excited, because they’re calling it the "best" Pixar offering in years.

Piper Curda is the voice of Mabel Tanaka, and she’s joined by an ensemble cast of recognizable voices, including Jon Hamm as Mayor Jerry, Kathy Najimy, Bobby Moynihan, Dave Franco, and Meryl Streep as Insect Queen to name just a few.

‘Best New Release In A Solid Decade’

Wilson Chapman of IndieWire gives the movie a B+, writing that it’s the “freshest” Pixar product since Turning Red and “the best new release in a solid decade.” It comes at a time when Pixar has lost a bit of its luster. Elio and Elemental felt constrained and formulaic, the critic says, and didn’t take risks, but Hoppers doesn’t have that problem. Chapman says:

This isn't the only critic who thinks there are some unique things happening here.

‘Pixar At Its Best’

Nell Minow of RogerEbert rates Hoppers 4 out of 4, writing that the artists show us the beauty of the natural world through the characters’ eyes and provide a fabulously tactile sense of the plant and water textures. As gorgeous as the animation is, the message of empathy for others is the heart of the film. Minow says:

Gregory Nussen of ScreenRant rates the upcoming Pixar movie 7 out of 10 saying that if we’re measuring pure fun and humor, Hoppers delivers one of Pixar’s “best in recent years, and quite possibly its best this decade.” Nussen calls the movie “bizarre” and “unhinged by children’s film standards,” resembling Avatar or even the Game of Thrones universe more than the animal kingdom. The critic continues::

‘The Best Pixar Movie Since Coco’

William Bibbiani of The Wrap continues the superlatives by saying this movie is “dam good” and, in fact, is “the best Pixar movie since Coco.” It’s funny, clever, kind, playfully dark and wonderfully weird, the critic says, writing:

These aren’t the only critics singing the praises of Hoppers. The animated flick holds a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer as of this writing. Some of the critics warn that it’s not a perfect movie and that it has moments that are pretty shocking or dark for younger audience members. However, if this sounds like one you need to check out, you can head to theaters starting Friday, March 6.

There are plenty of upcoming 2026 movies to get hyped for this March, and Pixar’s new flick, Hoppers, is definitely one of them. The voice cast of this original animated feature is stacked. Jon Hamm is playing Mayor Jerry, Meryl Streep is the Insect Queen, Dave Franco is voicing her son, Titus, and we'll also hear Vanessa Bayer, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curdo, to name a few. Still, one voice in particular will stand out to longtime Pixar fans. There's a moment that practically begs you to shout at the screen, “I know that voice!” It’s Mabel’s mom, voiced by none other than Lori Alan.

Disney Pixar’s new original animated film Hoppers is about a tenacious young woman named Mabel Tanaka who hijacks “hopping” technology that was invented to let humans communicate with wildlife and transfers her consciousness into an animatronic beaver. Determined to save the animals’ homes from human development led by Jon Hamm's Mayor Jerry, Mabel uses the technology to befriend beavers like King George and rally other creatures against the threat to their habitat.

In the film, Mabel has a strong bond with her family, especially her grandmother. While she and her mom do not share much screen time, if you are anything like me, the moment you hear the voice will drive you crazy. I sat there and tried and failed to figure out who was playing Mabel's mom, and even the Internet was not helpful in my pursuit.

So when CinemaBlend had the chance to speak with Hoppers director Daniel Chong during our visit to Pixar Studios, I had to ask him directly who voiced Mabel’s mom. As it turns out, in the world of Pixar, Lori Alan is practically a household name.

The moment Chong said her name, a lightbulb went off in my head. Of course—that’s the voice of Bonnie’s mom from the Toy Story franchise. You can even catch a snippet of her voice in the recently dropped Toy Story 5 trailer (it already has me tearing up). However, that’s not the only Pixar mom Alan has portrayed. She also voices Riley’s mom’s sadness character in Inside Out and Inside Out 2. Producer Nicole Grindle jumped in:

I bet it's kind of fun to be labeled as ‘Pixar’s mom.’ It immediately had me thinking about how many other moms in Pixar that Lori Alan has voiced. Now, excuse me while I go on an Easter egg hunt, and see if I'm missing any other mom's she's played.

To note, Alan is not just known for her voice work in Pixar films. She is probably best recognized as the voice of Pearl Krabs from SpongeBob SquarePants or as Diane Simmons from Family Guy. Gaming fans may also know her as the voice of the Boss in the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

Hopefully, now, when you sit down to watch Hoppers on March 6, you won’t be distracted trying to place Lori Alan’s voice. Instead, you'll be ready to dive into Mabel’s adventure—hopping into beavers, rallying the forest creatures, and taking on Mayor Jerry. This film is full of heart, humor, and surprises that deserve your full attention. Tickets are on sale now at AMC and other theaters.

Movie musicals are a tried and true genre in the film world, just look at how much money Wicked made recently. While the Mamma Mia! movies didn't join the ranks of musicals that won Best Picture, they were both wildly successful. There's been chatter about a threequel for years, and a Universal exec recently offered some encouraging news. But could Meryl Streep return as Donna?

Mammia Mia! Here We Go Again was set after Donna died, with Streep only getting a brief cameo during its runtime. Ever since then there have been calls for a threequel, with Amanda Seyfried wanting Sydney Sweeney to join the fun. In a conversation with Deadline, NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Dame Donna Langley seemingly confirmed we'll get another sequel, saying:

Talk about exciting. It seems like the studio has heard fans calling for another Mamma Mia! movie, and a third movie is going to happen eventually. And Judy Craymer, who created the original stage musical and its sequel movie, will once again be the creative force adapting ABBA's music into a new movie musical. So while it's still early, it looks like Mamma Mia! 3 is in good hands.

The cast has expressed interest in a third Mamma Mia! for years, so this news from Langley is likely going to be thrilling to both them and the fans. Later in the same interview, she spoke about whether or not Meryl Streep might be back, offering:

That's certainly a hopeful message. While Streep's return as Donna might be narratively challenging given the character's death, it sounds like the studio would love to have the Oscar-winning actress back in her most famous movie musical role.

Amanda Seyfried has been determined to get the threequel made, so I'm curious to see if/how she responds to these thrilling comments. She lead both of the first two movies as Sophie, with the sequel tackling her grief over Donna's offscreen death. It's already been a number of year since Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again hit theaters in 2018, so Universal might want to pick up the pace in order to book the full cast. After all, everyone is getting older.

It's currently unclear when Mamma Mia! 3 will arrive, but hopefully it's soon. But since it's not on the 2026 movie release list, we might have to try and be patient. Fingers crossed that active development starts soon.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 officially wrapped in October 2025, which means it will be premiering soon on the 2026 movie schedule. For the most part, the OG returning cast and newcomers looked like they had a blast filming the highly anticipated sequel to the 2000s hit movie, blowing kisses and waving to fans while on set. Meryl Streep especially enjoyed goofing off with her fellow castmates this time around, leaving her method acting in the past. However, there was one thing about playing Miranda Priestly that continued to plague her 20 years later, with the actress joking that it gave her PTSD after weeks of filming the sequel.

The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly is one of the most villainous female movie characters to exist, which is ironic given how wonderful Streep is to work with, according to her co-stars. The best actors love a challenge, though, and Streep, for the most part, was more than happy to reprise her role as Miranda Priestly for The Devil Wears Prada sequel. The Death Becomes Her actress told Vogue there was only one aspect to portraying the Runway editor-in-chief she was not excited to step back into:

I don’t know about the Medal of Freedom, but depending on her performance, perhaps we can settle for an Oscar? Only time will tell, but I certainly understand the point of Streep’s good humor: women’s fashion can sometimes be a pain. Thankfully, Streep stopped method acting after TDWP and was able to relax off camera on the sequel set, including stepping out of those difficult shoes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against heels entirely. They certainly pull together her outfits perfectly, and the pics leaked from the set of TDWP 2 have shown some incredible looks. Afterall, Miranda Priestly is the editor-in-chief of Runway, the most reputable fashion magazine out there. She would be caught dead wearing something that was out of style. Unfortunately for Streep, in the 20 years since The Devil Wears Prada came out, heels have stood the test of time.

However, costume designer Molly Rogers told Vogue that the actors actually had a lot of input when it came to updating their looks for the sequel, with fashion playing a big role in showing how the characters have grown. For example, Anne Hathaway wanted Andy’s look to inform the audience of her journalistic prowess since the first film.

For Miranda Priestly, her look must always command attention and respect, like this MET-Gala-worthy crimson gown. In the world of fashion, heels convey power and authority, so it makes sense they would be a constant in Miranda’s wardrobe. So while she couldn’t escape the heels, the Into the Woods actress did request to wear pants over skirts and dresses as often as possible. I can’t say I blame her, and I definitely think there’s a good compromise with the outfits previewed in the trailer:

Rogers said that many of the actors’ wardrobe calls made the cut, which makes me even more excited to see the fits still in store. The cast apparently learned firsthand from the experts, as they were seen attending a fashion show during Milan Fashion Week with Anna Wintour. The Devil Wears Prada, more specifically Miranda Priestly, is loosely based on the iconic former editor-in-chief of Vogue, for better or worse. So seeing Wintour and Miranda Priestly at a real fashion show together is a whole new level of meta.

Perhaps watching those models walk the runway in heels gave the Mamma Mia actress the inspiration she needed to push through all those scenes in heels. I can only hope she booked herself a spa day when filming wrapped. I just hope they allow her a nice flat shoe with excellent arch support for the press tour.

I will hardly let her award-worthy sacrifice go to waste, though. You can be sure I will be in attendance when The Devil Wears Prada hits theaters on May 1st.

Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep are among the returning original cast members who started filming the highly-anticipated sequel in June 2025. Streep’s stunning looks as Miranda Priestly on set of The Devil Wears Prada 2 would strike fear into the eyes of any assistant, but do not be fooled! This is not the same frosty Runway boss we remember, and co-star Hathaway revealed one key way Streep changed her approach to Miranda Priestly for the sequel.

Fans are already going feral for first looks of The Devil Wears Prada 2, and many noticed in the teaser trailer that Streep's Miranda and Hathaway’s Andrea seem more friends than foes as they reunite 20 years later. The Interstellar actress told Vogue that was the case offscreen as well, and described a surreal moment back on set with Streep:

Years after The Devil Wears Prada came out, the Idea Of You actress and Emily Blunt revealed they had a lot of laughs with each other and Stanley Tucci on the 2006 set, but not with Meryl Streep. The Little Women actress had approached her role as the villainous magazine boss, based on iconic Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, through method acting.

Instead of mingling with her co-stars, Streep spent most of her time off camera holed up in her trailer, keeping a cool distance between herself and her onscreen “staff.” The Death Becomes Her actress admitted she was “miserable” the whole time and vowed never to method act again after TDWP.

That sounds so lonely, and I don’t blame Streep for quitting method acting after the experience. The question now becomes, can Streep carry on the infamous Miranda Priestly persona in the same way for the sequel? She had the same question:

Despite fitting right back into Miranda’s wardrobe, Meryl Streep has decided to leave method acting on the rack this time (it’s so last season). She was spotted blowing kisses to fans out a window, in a very non-Miranda-like fashion, and her new co-star Justin Theroux said it was “a pleasure and an honor” to work with her.

The vibes on set were definitely different this time around, but given Streep's incredible acting history, I don’t think there’s any reason to worry. She’s made dozens of successful movies since she quit method acting. Besides, I think it might be a good thing if Streep’s Priestly has mellowed a bit from the last time we saw her. I don’t think she’ll lose all her bite – I’m still expecting just as many iconic lines as the first film – but with time and experience comes perspective. From the looks of the official trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which released during the Grammys on Sunday, Streep has nailed it:

Well, well, well, it seems like Miranda and Andy will be working together again at Runway afterall, even after Andy quite literally threw that opportunity into a fountain. I could not be more excited to see how these character’s dynamics have developed in the years since the first Devil Wears Prada, and what they have been up to this entire time.

Justin Theroux is among the many big names announced to be in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Here’s what he said about Streep to Variety:

If you’re clued on the behind-the-scenes details for the original The Devil Wears Prada, you might know that Meryl Streep decided to stay in character the whole time the first time around, and that “made her so miserable,” according to Emily Blunt. We don’t expect that she’ll do the same thing this time around because she said it was the “last time” she ever attempted “a Method thing” (via IndieWire) since it made her feel isolated from the cast.

Theroux’s words about working with Streep sounds like he’s feeling very lucky to be in the same room as the Oscar winner, and watch her work. Duh! Of course at this point he can only say so much, but I'm excited by the idea that everyone "knew" what they were making.

Who Is Justin Theroux Playing In The Devil Wears Prada 2?

Aside from giving us a little something about working with Streep, Theroux also briefly described his character. The Leftovers actor said he’s playing a “forward-leaning, rich and stupid” character whom he had a “blast” playing. It sounds like his new character fits right into the world of the film, where affluent fashion icons are everywhere you look.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will also star Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling, along with Kenneth Branagh playing Miranda’s new husband. There’s also a lot of other newcomers to the cast aside from Theroux like Brigerton’s Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Caleb Hearon, B.J. Novak and Rachel Bloom. Even Lady Gaga is in the movie! The sequel began filming over the summer and wrapped back in October. During production, there’s been a lot of concerns about fans spoiling outfits when they’ve been spotted filming. Blunt called all the attention the movie is getting to the cast feeling like “zoo exhibits.” We’ve seen some outfits from Streep, Hathaway and Blunt, but we’ve yet to see a photo of Theroux’s character. Everything will be revealed when the movie releases on May 1, 2026.

I’m going to come clean: I really love the movie The Firm. I loved the book by John Grisham before the movie was released, and I thought the movie was a great book-to-screen adaptation. As with all adaptations, changes were made, so worse than others, but one thing I think the movie nailed was the casting.

This is especially true for Gene Hackman in the role of Avery Toler, the grizzled partner at the shady law firm that Mitch (Tom Cruise) goes to work for in Memphis. However, I recently learned that the original idea for that character was to switch the unsavory attorney's gender and cast Meryl Streep in the role. I love Streep as much as anyone, but I’m glad that decision was amended.

I’m Sure Meryl Streep Could Have Been Amazing, But…

This is not going to be an article discrediting the great Meryl Streep. No one is that insane, as she’s a national treasure for good reason. I’m sure she would have been incredible in a re-written role, but Avery Toler is a philandering lawyer with a weak sense of morality. This is not to say that a female character couldn’t have the same dubious morality, but it would have changed everything about the story, and more specifically, the discussion around the movie. Instead of being a simple legal thriller, the cultural conversation would have been all about a female character with “male characteristics.” Remember, this was in 1993. That conversation could be normal in 2025, but over 30 years ago? I doubt it.

Just a year after The Firm came out, another book adaptation, Disclosure, was released (and was a bigger hit than people remember). The movie portrays a female CEO played by Demi Moore who sexually harasses a male employee played by Michael Douglas. The purpose of that movie (and the book) was to swap what were thought of a traditional gender roles and morals in society at the time. Had The Firm done a gender swap on the Toler character, that’s what people would have been talking about. The world, quite honestly, wasn’t ready to have that conversation yet.

I love that The Firm is a straightforward story that isn’t trying to be political or culturally groundbreaking. Not that there is anything wrong with either, because art in all its forms should push the cultural narrative, but not every movie or book has to make a statement. Swapping the role from man to woman would have absolutely opened up that conversation and allowed it to dominate. We got that conversation with Disclosure, and I’m happy we didn’t with The Firm.

Besides, Hackman Was Fantastic

The late Gene Hackman was wonderful in basically everything he did. For me, he’s on the Mount Rushmore of American actors. So is Streep, of course, but it’s not like Hackman was bad in The Firm. No, he was awesome in the movie. He was perfect as the slimiest among the attorneys at a firm full of sketchy lawyers. He plays the role with such believability that you are charmed and disgusted at the same time.

I’m not sure a female character would have had the same effect on me, especially at the time. Like most people back then, I’d be asking how believable it was that a woman could get seduced and distracted by someone like Toler was by Mitch’s wife (Jeanne Tripplehorn), and that wouldn’t be fair to the movie, the book, or audiences in 1993.

And hey, if they were to remake The Firm (again) in the 2020s? Go for it, I’d be all in. Meanwhile, you can watch the original The Firm with a Paramount+ subscription and decide for yourself how different it would be.

As a bunch of huge 2025 movie releases come out in the next week, a lot of new trailers are being dropped, and the latest is from Pixar. After the first look at Toy Story 5 came out last week, we now have a new trailer for Hoppers, and word that none other than Meryl Streep is part of the cast.

When you watch the trailer above, you might theorize immediately and say Meryl Streep has to be playing the gray-haired scientist, like I did, but that's not the case. The actress is actually lending her voice to a character called "Insect Queen." Here's a first look from the two-minute trailer:

When I watched the trailer, I thought Meryl Streep would be the character of Dr. Sam, who is the professor of the lead character Mabel, but that role is actually voiced by Hocus Pocus' actress Kathy Najimy. Obviously, Meryl Streep has proved she can do just about anything as an actress, so it's kind of on brand that she is playing something as random as a monarch butterfly.

The movie is one of two roles Streep has lined up for 2026, given she's also set to reprise her role as Miranda Priestley in The Devil Wears Prada 2. (The first trailer for that just came out, too!)

Prior, we had known that the Hoppers movie cast would include Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda as the movie's protagonist, Mabel, but now word of Meryl Streep's addition to the cast is one of many reveals. Disney and Pixar also shared that Dave Franco, Stranger Things' Eduardo Franco, Sam Richardson, and SNL actors Melissa Villaseñor, Ego Nwodim, and Vanessa Bayer are also among the cast.

Hoppers is about a group of scientists who invent a way to "hop" human minds into lifelike robotic animal bodies that can understand the animal world. When a 19-year-old named Mabel learns of this tech from her professor, she decides to use it to embody a robotic beaver and help the animals defend themselves against a construction company's plot.

The movie comes from director Daniel Chong, who is the creator of Cartoon Network's We Bare Bears and has served on the senior creative team for just about every recent Pixar movie since Turning Red. The movie has been in development since 2020 and is officially set to be released in theaters next spring.

Hoppers will be the first Pixar movie since Elio, which famously bombed at the box office over the summer, as it made $154 million worldwide against a reported $150 million production budget. Could Hoppers be the latest one of Pixar's movies to be a success? We'll see when it comes out on March 6. The trailer certainly looks promising, and Streep's involvement is great news!

It's time to put on our best heels and step back on the runway, because we are one giant step closer to the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2. While we've seen some outfit spoilers for the highly anticipated sequel, we have not seen Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in action until now. And let me tell you, the first teaser trailer is very exciting, because it left me with a big question about Miranda and Andy's relationship.

What Happened In The First Teaser Trailer For The Devil Wears Prada 2

In the first teaser trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which you can see above, we spend a lot of its runtime watching a pair of red heels walk through the offices of what I'd guess is Runway Magazine. Then, as the woman wearing the heels walks into the elevator, it's revealed that she's Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly.

Looking iconic in her black outfit and matching sunglasses, she turns to face Anne Hathaway's Andy, who just barely made the elevator, and says:

Then, Hathaway's character puts on her sunglasses and smiles, which leads me to my question.

Where Does Miranda And Andy's Relationship Stand?

In the first movie (which is available with a Disney+ subscription), Andy was Miranda's assistant, and she was looked down on – as the many savage lines from The Devil Wears Prada prove. In this teaser trailer, Andy's smile and the fact that she also put on sunglasses have me wondering if she's more of Miranda's equal now.

Remember, at the end of The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda tells Andy that she sees a lot of herself in her. However, Hathaway’s character makes it clear she doesn’t want the Runway life, and throws her phone into the fountain in Paris. Then, the movie closes on Andy going out for a new job and getting a recommendation from Miranda.

In the trailer, it seems like Andy is back and maybe working with Miranda, which is shocking, considering Hathaway’s character wanted out of the business. However, it’s also been 19 years since the first movie came out, and a lot can change in that time.

So, after seeing this trailer, I’m wondering things like: Does Andy work at Runway? How much power does she have? Is Miranda still Andy’s boss, and what does the hierarchy of power look like? However, what it all comes down to is: Where does Miranda and Andy’s relationship stand?

This footage makes me think that they’re on pretty good terms and have a very productive working relationship. That’s honestly kind of wild to think, and whether I’m right or wrong, I cannot wait to see how their relationship plays into the film’s plot (which is still being kept under wraps).

I also can’t wait to see them interact with the rest of the cast in David Frankel’s movie, too. We know Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are also returning to their original roles. Alongside them, Kenneth Branagh is one of the new additions to the cast, which also includes Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Pauline Chalamet, Caleb Hearon and many more. The casting alone leaves me with even more questions about how the world around Runway has evolved since 2006, and I cannot wait to see how Andy and Miranda handle it and everyone in it.

Thankfully, we'll get to see that fairly soon, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 will premiere on the 2026 movie schedule on May 1.

It was ladies’ night on the latest episode of Only Murders in the Building’s fifth season, and the cast in attendance was full of A-listers. From Selena Gomez to Meryl Streep to Renée Zellweger to Da’Vine Joy Randolph to Dianne Wiest, it was an absolutely stacked. However, the iconic names attached to this episode don’t end there. Jennifer Aniston’s name was also dropped twice by Streep’s character, Loretta, and I had to ask the co-creator about those jokes and the chance that the Friends icon could be on OMITB someday.

So, here’s what went down in the episode that just aired on the 2025 TV schedule: before Meryl Streep’s Loretta put on her fake accent and attempted to get a confession out of Renée Zellweger’s billionaire, Camila, she had to talk to Jennifer Aniston about doing her show first. It was for an important role too, as Loretta squealed the following right as she walked into the event:

Later in the episode, Loretta is the one to get a major crack in the case, as she learned the history between Nicky and Camila as well as their plans for the casino at the Arconia. Oh, and she found what looks like the murder weapon.

However, despite all that, when Oliver complimented her crime-solving skills and said he had “no notes” about what she'd figured out and learned, Loretta quipped back:

It was a hilarious callback to a joke from earlier in the episode, and it got me thinking: Could Jennifer Aniston ever be on this great Hulu show?

What The Co-Creator Of Only Murders In The Building Said About The Jennifer Aniston Joke And The Potential For Her To Be On The Show

When I interviewed Only Murders’ co-creator John Hoffman, I made sure to talk to him about this funny scene, and I asked if we should read into it and if it’d ever be possible to have Aniston on the comedy. In response, he started laughing and joked about the potential for his series to crossover with The Morning Show before breaking down the actual bit in OMITB. He explained:

Truly, it’s an A+ joke, because it's wild to think about Loretta trying to cast an A-lister in her medical procedural that shoots in New Zealand.

Now, I really hope it inspires the series and Aniston to work together. It sounds like Hoffman isn’t opposed to the idea either, as he told me:

Since she was name-dropped in the episode, maybe she could play herself like Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Eva Longoria did last season. Or maybe, in the same vein as Paul Rudd’s ongoing gag of returning as a new character every season, this whole ordeal of Loretta trying to recruit her for her show could continue as a running inside joke. Then, maybe, someday, Jennifer Aniston could actually show up to interact with Meryl Streep’s character.

For now, that’s just a dream. However, considering Hoffman’s enthusiasm about the joke and the absolutely stacked list of guest stars Only Murders has had, I don’t actually think it’s that far-fetched. So, as we continue watching the lovely Hulu comedy on Tuesdays, let’s hope that someday Jennifer Aniston really does show up to talk to Loretta about a role in Burn Unit.

Filming for the long-awaited sequel went up a notch when the Oscar-winning actress dressed as the iconic female film villain during a Milan Fashion Week show. And who else should be there but the muse behind Miranda Priestly? Vogue’s former Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour got the chance to meet the talented actress at the same fashion show, and I wish I were a fly on the wall.

Lauren Weisberger, who authored The Devil Wears Prada, is widely believed to have based Miranda Priestly on her former boss Anna Wintour, back when she was her personal assistant at Vogue. If you can believe it, People reported that fact and fiction blended when Meryl Streep looked stunning as ever, filming her sequel scenes as the Runway editor at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 and got to meet her character’s inspiration, Anna Wintour. Wow, how I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during this rendezvous.

At the Milan Fashion Week show, Meryl Streep was seen as Miranda Priestly sitting next to Stanley Tucci, who looked to be in full Nigel Kipling mode, co-star Simone Ashley, who will be playing a new character in the 2026 movie release, and fashion editor icon Anna Wintour. Before the show, Wintour and Streep had previously met, as shown in Vogue’s Instagram video, being all smiles and hugs, which gives out all of the feel-good vibes:

How I would have loved to have been there! Oh, the questions I have. I’m incredibly curious what the pair could have talked about, such as whether they complimented each other’s high-end fashion ensembles, and if Anna Wintour might possibly have a cameo appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Considering all of the spoilers that have already come out for the Spring release, maybe it’s best to leave some things a fun surprise.

Not only are fans like me happy that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally coming together, but so is Anna Wintour. The British-American former editor previously said she understands the hype on the upcoming sequel for not only seeing the cast of the previous dramedy return, but also as an honorable tribute to the importance of fashion.

As Miranda Priestly comes off as icy and demanding in the movie, we fortunately don’t have to worry about the Condé Nast artistic director being offended by the film’s take on her, as she previously said she found the first movie to be “highly enjoyable and very funny” with high praise for Meryl Streep’s portrayal. This proves that even real-life power figures can appreciate a playful dramatization of themselves without taking it personally.

It would have made my day to see Streep as Miranda Priestly meet her real-life inspiration at the Dolce & Gabbana show. Imagining their encounter as the two style icons watched the runway makes you wonder which one would have raised an eyebrow first. We may have to wait to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 when it comes out among the 2026 movie releases, but attendees of the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show during Milan Fashion Week were just graced with a sneak peek. More specifically, attendees soaked in the presence of Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, as Streep and the cast filmed at the event. There's even video of the event, and Streep looks absolutely stunning.

Yeah, this is too good. Meryl Streep was spotted sitting alongside co-star Stanley Tucci and one of the exciting new The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast members, Bridgerton's Simone Ashley, was sitting behind her as well. Streep was also sitting next to supermodel Naomi Campbell as she took in the prestigious fashion show.

Marie Claire’s senior fashion news editor Halie LeSavage reported that Streep was “in character” and “gave a few nods of approval” as she watched the show. She even waved at Anna Wintour (who partially inspired Miranda Priestley) during the appearance.

Apparently, there had been rumors swirling all week about the movie character stopping by, but LeSavage recalls nearly falling out of her seat when the moment happened. In the video, you can definitely see Streep's appearance at the event was well received, as everyone in attendance seemed to stand up and capture the moment upon her entrance. I’d imagine that entrance will be in a scene in the upcoming sequel.

Since The Devil Wears Prada 2 began filming back in June, the cast has been spotted all over New York City in various fashion-forward ensembles. Previously, Meryl Streep blew fans away when she stepped out in a red ball gown on the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Kenneth Branagh, who is set to play Miranda’s new husband. Fans have also seen Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt out and about in character, and Sydney Sweeney was even allegedly seen on set even though she was never announced in the cast.

Along with the return of the key cast from the 2026 movie, Lucy Liu is in the movie along with Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Caleb Hearon, Rachel Bloom, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman. The director of the original movie, David Frankel, along with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, are also both back in their respective roles.

We don’t have a lot of details about the storyline of The Devil Wears Prada 2. However, Streep’s recent appearances, including her latest takeover of the Dolce & Gabbana show provides a clue about Miranda Priestly’s status within the universe of the films. By the looks of it, she still has high influence in the fashion industry, and I'm excited to see her -- and by extension, Meryl Streep -- command the big screen again.

Since ABC decided to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely, celebrities and fans alike have spoken out in defense of not only the show but the host himself. Hollywood bigwigs like Ben Stiller and Wanda Sykes have since weighed in and expressed their disapproval of Kimmel being taken off the air. Now, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep along with a host of other celebs are taking action. All the while, Howard Stern is explaining why he finds the suspension “unfortunate” and how he’s taken action himself.

How Many Of The Entertainment Industry’s Biggest Stars Are Supporting Jimmy Kimmel

It was announced on Monday that over 400 celebrities signed a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which opposes Kimmel’s suspension. The open letter declares that citizens “must never accept government threats to our freedom of speech.” Aside from Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, major stars like Ben Affleck, Regina King, Robert De Niro, Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Aniston, Joaquin Phoenix, Kirsten Dunst and Lin-Manuel Miranda. An excerpt from the letter reads as follows:

Disney CEO Bob Iger and the company’s entertainment chair, Dana Walden, made the decision to pull Kimmel from the air due to comments he made in regard to the death of media pundit Charlie Kirk. It’s been reported that Walden and Iger’s decision was not well received by others at the company. Their choice came down after media companies Nexstar and Sinclair dropped the show from its ABC affiliates and on the heels of FCC chairman Brendan Carr suggesting he’d revoke ABC’s license unless action was taken.

Howard Stern Weighs In On The Jimmy Kimmel Live! Controversy

Howard Stern just recently addressed the Jimmy Kimmel situation on air and explained that he’s been following it. The veteran radio host also confirmed that he’s spoken to Kimmel since the suspension came down the pipeline to see “how he was doing personally.” Like many others, Stern is unsure as to whether Kimmel’s show will return or be canceled by ABC. As seen in a clip shared to Instagram, what makes the shock jock uncomfortable, though, is the current situation that the aforementioned network currently finds itself in:

As Disney continues to receive blowback for pulling Kimmel, it’s been reported that internal meetings are taking place at the studio in the attempt to get the show back on the air. Sources allege that a resolution has not been reached yet. All the while, fans are seemingly canceling their Disney+ subscriptions as a form of protest, with one of the streamer’s stars, Tatiana Maslany, also encouraging them to do that. Howard Stern also revealed during his show that he dropped his membership as well:

As of this writing, many are tabulating the odds as to whether Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to the 2025 TV schedule. Reports indicate that the show hasn’t been cancelled as of yet and that the staff hasn’t been laid off. The public at large will just have to wait and see what happens but, in the meantime, it would appear that Kimmel has more than a few people – stars and fans alike – in his corner at this time.

The Devil Wears Prada is full of iconic quotes, and fans were thrilled when it was announced that a sequel was being produced. But since Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly was based on Anna Wintour, what does the fashion mogul think about the franchise's return to theaters?

The internet was set ablaze seeing Meryl Streep back as Miranda, including her signature silver hair and chic costume. Exactly what the Runway Editor in Chief will be up to in the sequel is a mystery at this point, but we can look to the novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns for clues.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently expected to hit theaters on May 1st as part of the 2026 movie release list. In the meantime, the first one can be re-watched on Hulu and Disney+. We'll just have to see if Wintour gets a cameo the second time around.

Last night, the 2025 TV guide pulled off another big night from its calendar as the 77th Emmys aired. Many shows’ casts were there, from Severance to Abbott Elementary, and, of course, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez from Only Murders in the Building. Naturally, the hijinks-prone trio had fun last night but also had a viral moment. Specifically people fawned over Selena Gomez’s real time reaction to Martin Short texting Meryl Streep.

In a now widely circulated video, co-star Selena Gomez can be seen glancing at a smiling 75-year-old on his phone. Once she realizes whom he’s communicating with via text, she leans over to her fiancé, Benny Blanco, and adorably delivers the news. People on the internet believe she says, “Marty’s texting Meryl,” with a huge grin. Take a look for yourself:

Though Only Murders in the Building was among the 2025 Emmy nominees, including Best Comedy, Streep was MIA. Assumingly, her absence may relate to the filming schedule of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which will be out in spring 2026. Yet, it seems like she was in contact with cast mate, and love interest, Martin Short.

The segment in full is just so wonderful to watch play out. From Martin Short’s smile as he texts, to Selena Gomez sharing the exchange she saw with Benny Blanco, I don’t know what I find more wholesome. The latter two are certainly giving off a mom and dad vibe as they relish in the Oliver Putnman actor’s happiness, though. Clearly I’m here for it all, but the reaction of the 33-year-old is just top tier sweet.

As for the legendary lovebirds, it’s been just about a year since the Short and Streep dating rumors ran wild online. While they’ve never confirmed their relationship, the pair have been regularly seen together on and off the set of OMITB. Thankfully, Selena Gomez's moment let fans in on two things. One, the Hollywood vets are communicative with each other when a part, and two, they have an equally electric text game between them.

Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time Gomez has been the center of a buzzy awards show off stage happening. She and Taylor Swift shared a viral moment at The Golden Globes in 2024 that was rumored to tie into eyebrowgate with Kylie Jenner (which was debunked by Gomez herself). Hopefully neither her or her castmates are too ruffled by this new off camera catch, I can’t imagine they would be. Though I’m sure it has the Wizards of Waverly Place star thinking twice about when to put her hand over her mouth so as to avoid a future installment.

Regardless, the lovely candid Emmys moment of Selena Gomez celebrating the bond Martin Short has with Meryl Streep through text is wildly watchable to me. It makes me want to rewatch Only Murders in the Building Seasons 3 and 4 with my Hulu subscription until the next cute clip of Streep and Short drops.

Of all the films that have come out over the past 25 years, there’s no doubt that many would put The Devil Wears Prada on the list of the best 2000s movies. The comedy is memorable for its fashion, legendary quotable lines and performances, to the point where a sequel for the book to screen adaptation is currently filming and scheduled to hit the list of 2026 movies. Meryl Streep’s role as the titular devil is the one that’s recognizably based on a real person: Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. Now, she’s opened up about her feelings on the movie.

What Did Anna Wintour Think Of Meryl Streep’s Performance In The Devil Wears Prada?

Becoming a celebrity is already a longshot, but becoming one who’s famous for so long that someone kinda sorta writes a book with you as a character, which eventually becomes a hit film, is even rarer. While Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt (who also return in the sequel) certainly did their part to make The Devil Wears Prada hit, it’s possible that the movie wouldn’t have been as beloved as it is without Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Miranda Priestly, who’s widely known to be based on long-time Vogue editor/Rihanna and A$AP Rocky-lover Anna Wintour.

The fashionable magazine maven (who oversees the uber-expensive Met Gala every year) was recently interviewed by The New Yorker Radio Hour, and after being asked if she was “hurt by” the movie’s version of her and seeming to “embrace” it later, Wintour said:

Alright, so not only can most of us not imagine having a book and then a movie made where there’s a character who’s openly based on us, but then think about going to the premiere of that film and having no clue what you’re walking into. Now, considering that the novel that one of the most fashionable movies was based on came out three years prior to the 2006 megahit and was a New York Times bestseller, I feel like Kim Kardashian’s famed high fashion friend may have had some inkling that she was at least vaguely being represented on screen.

And, you know, that representation wasn’t exactly…um, the best. I suppose one could say that Miranda is seen as exacting and salty when it comes to most of her employees (Hathaway’s Andy, in particular) and their work/fashion choices. That description, however, is the nicest way to put much of her behavior, which does mean that Wintour was shown in a “difficult light.” She continued, though, and noted that she gets the portrayal was (as the host said) “cartoonish,” adding:

Talk about being able to distance yourself from something, right? I mean, good for her! It turns out that she was able to take the story as just that, a story, and enjoy how it unfolded. Wintour concluded:

It also sounds like she was able to recognize that, where things did ring true for her, the portrayal was about as “fair” as it could be, which speaks volumes for her ability to take things in stride. That's a trait that probably helped her make it to the top of her career.

Not only will we see characters like Andy, Nigel and Emily making their return, but so will Runway’s editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. The ever-talented Meryl Streep was caught filming the long-awaited sequel by fans, and her reaction was completely adorable (and not so Miranda Priestly).

I’m all the more psyched to see Meryl Streep return as Miranda Priestly. Considering all of the icy statements Runway’s head honcho made in the first movie and her hard-to-please demeanor, she’s a villain we love to hate. Fans on TikTok caught the Oscar-winning actress filming as her iconic character for the sequel. Take a look:

I was already thrilled seeing Anne Hathaway’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 costume reveal, but seeing Meryl Streep in her Miranda Priestly attire brought me back to one of the best 2000s movies. The award-winning actress waving and throwing kisses to fans was definitely unlike her character. Where’s Runway’s icy tyrant we know and love?

One of the best female villains in film history would never be kind to onlookers. The sarcastic movie character would probably scoff in their direction or chillingly deliver, “Go!” But as Streep’s method-acting days stopped after playing Miranda Priestly, it’s no wonder she’d rather be nice to her adoring fans compared to staying in character.

Maybe Meryl Streep was herself in the video fans taken of her, but her appearance had Miranda Priestly’s magic all over it. Seeing the Only Murders in the Building actress donning the signature white hair and memorable Tom Ford eyewear is giving me nostalgia feels. I also can’t get enough of Miranda Priestly’s jacket, dramatically filled with oversized tassels and jewel-toned colors. It shows that even close to two decades later, the Devil Wears Prada antagonist's style has never changed.

Based on what we know so far about The Devil Wears Prada 2, Miranda Priestly’s Runway magazine is failing due to print publications going out of style. With Meryl Streep’s character in need of “advertising dollars,” she’ll be facing off against Emily, who’s an executive for a luxury group. I’m crossing my fingers that we see Miranda Priestly in the ruthless manner that made the character so iconic, with a bunch of tricks up her sleeve to still be on top. I don’t think she’ll be blowing kisses at anyone in this sequel (or at least not without a hint of sarcasm).

Meryl Streep’s reaction to fans filming her for The Devil Wears Prada 2 may not have been Miranda Priestly-like, but it was very Meryl Streep. It warms my heart to see the Golden Globe winner spare a few seconds to show her fans love, even dressed as the fashionable tyrant. What better way for Streep to say “I’m back” than with a dose of kindness to her dedicated fans?

We can see the return of all of our favorite The Devil Wears Prada characters when the sequel hits theaters on May 1st, 2026.

Mamma Mia just became available for those with a Netflix subscription again, which means a lot of people are going to be rewatching the beloved musical, and talking about it. As a longtime fan of both Mamma Mia movies, I want to get into the ongoing dad debate, because my blunt take is that it just doesn’t matter, despite people loving to argue about it.

I Need To Talk About The Ongoing Dad Debate In Mamma Mia

If you’re out of the loop here, Mamma Mia revolves around Amanda Seyfried’s Sophie finding her mom Donna’s diary from when she was a young woman. There she finds out that she had flings with three men around the same time right before she got pregnant with her. As Sophie gets ready to get married, she decides to invite all three of them to her big day in Greece, and they all come! As you can imagine, Donna is incredibly surprised to see them all again, and hijinks ensue.

The three possible fathers are Pierce Brosnan’s Sam, Colin Firth’s Harry and Stellan Skarsgard’s Bill (ugh, I still can’t get over how good the Mamma Mia cast is!). By the time the first movie and the sequel ends, we still have no idea which one is Sophie’s biological father, and it’s never been officially revealed. Pierce Brosnan recently shared that a third movie could finally divulge this information as chatter continues for Mamma Mia 3 – including questions about how the heck Meryl Streep would come back, but I honestly don't want to know.

Look I get why it’s interesting to people to theorize who Sophie’s actual dad is. I just read a Reddit thread that attempted to math it all out down to the day, but the more I’ve watched it I’ve personally given up on it, because I think knowing who the dad is actually missing the point of the movies.

I Think Something Else Is More Interesting Than Which One Her Dad Is

So technically if the movie was actually interested in telling us about Sophie’s dad, they’d have all the men take DNA tests, and there the answer would be, but notice how that’s never happened? I think it’s because the writers know that it’s more interesting that Sophie bringing Donna’s flings together to Greece and them all becoming this weird found family is way more interesting. I love how Bill ends up with Donna’s friend Rosie, and Donna and Sam end up falling back in love as a result of the whole thing. And, Harry might have a thing with Petros?

I think one of the reasons why I love this movie so much, is how it handles its three dads. The movie actually celebrates Donna being sexually adventurous and having multiple lovers when she was young, and her life turning into this dreamlike musical ride even though she was single and without a partner for most of her life.

It’s very rare for a piece of media to turn a young woman’s sexual coming-of-age this way. While sure, each of the men must be curious about which one of them it is, I love more how they become good friends with each other and everyone in Donna’s circle, and they all kind of mentally adopt Sophie because they were each charmed by Donna so much in their younger years. It totally defies the common trope of men walking out on women they randomly get pregnant, and it just makes for such a fun storyline. None of them actually raised Sophie anyway, but knowing they all stepped up when she needed them kind of make them all her dads, and that's sweeter to me than one of them being the dad.

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll be watching Mamma Mia again for the millionth time soon, and not bothering with this dad debate.

Now that we’re somehow halfway through 2025, I’m already looking ahead to upcoming 2026 movies, and one release I’m especially excited for is the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. I’ve seriously rewatched the movie about the cutthroat world of fashion publishing so many times across the past two decades, and it only gets more classic with every viewing. While I’ll admit I was initially unsure about there being a follow-up to the fabulous 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, the more I learn about it, the more I’m looking forward to it.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been in production since the end of June (per 20th Century Studios’ Instagram), and I want to talk about all the casting announcements and my thoughts about what the movie could actually be about. If you’re not as hyped as I am about this sequel by the end of this article, by all means, move at a glacial pace…

I'm So Happy So Many Of The Original Devil Wears Prada Cast Are Returning

The first thing about The Devil Wears Prada 2 movie I needed to know about before officially getting on board was knowing that the main cast would return, and that is in fact happening. Per Variety, we know that after twenty years, the original cast will all reunite, and I’m sold. Meryl Streep will once again play Miranda Priestly, who was a powerful editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine Runway in the first movie. Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs will also be back after initially playing a new post-grad journalist who’s hired as Miranda’s personal assistant.

That’s not all, either. Emily Blunt, who played Miranda’s senior assistant Emily Charlton, before Blunt was the big Hollywood star that she is now, will be back as well. Stanley Tucci’s role of Runway’s art director Nigel Kipling is also set for the sequel, along with some smaller original actors coming back as well. Andy’s best friend Lily will even be back and be played once again by Tracie Thoms, for example!

It’s not only the original team in front of the camera for the beloved comedy either. The original director of the first movie, David Frankel (who’s also helmed movies since like Marley & Me and Jerry & Marge Go Large), is directing from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna, the same writer who penned the very quotable 2006 movie, too. This really doesn’t happen a lot when sequels happen, but I think it’s a really good sign for the movie itself.

The New Cast Members Are Exciting Additions As Well

What has me even more intrigued about the movie as well is the talent that has been lined up to play new characters. For one, the iconic Lucy Liu has been cast to star in the movie, and I cannot stop thinking about how perfectly she’ll fit in with the established actors. As with all of the newly announced actors, we don’t know who they will be playing, but Liu feels like a no-brainer!

Two other big names I’m looking forward to are Justin Theroux and B.J. Novak. I recently thought Theroux was hilarious in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, so I think he could steal the show again in The Devil Wears Prada 2. It’s also very smart to have The Office’s Novak on board, and considering the talent of the actor, who was also a writer on the sitcom, I think his workplace comedy expertise will only make this movie better. Oh, and Kenneth Branagh will apparently play Miranda’s husband, per Deadline, which is also stellar casting.

Last week, it was also announced that Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley has also been cast. Ashley’s Kate Sharma is literally one half of my favorite couple in Bridgerton, alongside Jonathan Bailey, so I’m so happy she’s got another high-profile role to her name. Some lesser-known actors who are also going to be in the movie are Paulin Chalamet (yes, she’s the sister of Timothée Chalamet), Helen J. Shen, who’s been getting buzz lately for starring in Maybe Happy Ending on Broadway, and How To Die Alone’s Conrad Ricamora. I’m especially looking forward to Caleb Hearon, who was recently in HBO’s Sweethearts mix with the cast.

And, I Have Theories About What The Devil Wears Prada 2 Could Be About

While I haven’t read the Devil Wears Prada books, I looked into it, and Lauren Weisberger published a direct sequel to her first novel in 2013 called Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, and I have a feeling the movie’s plotline will lean a lot on what happens in it. In the novel, Andy and Emily have gone from being enemies to business partners who have started a successful bridal magazine called The Plunge. Oh, and Andy is no longer with her controversial boyfriend and has met the love of her life and is planning to marry him. He’s a man named Max Harrison, who is part of a well-off media family. But Andy receives a letter that threatens her dreamy future.

Now, Revenge Wears Prada has some pretty middling reviews on Goodreads, which particularly call out the book for barely featuring Miranda, so I don’t see the filmmakers taking this storyline as gospel, but it does feel like the right starting point for a sequel.

I imagine the sequel will take place around fifteen to twenty years after the events of the first movie, after Andy has quit her job, she and Emily are more friendly to each other, and Miranda goes cold on Andy. I think it would be interesting if Andy and Emily end up starting some kind of media war with Miranda that could involve two publications. It would be the same old for Miranda and her toxic work environment, competing with Andy and Emily’s own company. Wouldn’t that be good?

I’ll be following the production of The Devil Wears Prada 2 closely, but for the time being, you can definitely look forward to its release date on May 1, 2026.

Meryl Streep made her first appearance on Saturday Night Live during the show’s much-hyped 50th anniversary special, and months later, star Mikey Day still can’t believe he gave her acting advice during the rehearsals. The longtime writer and cast member worked extensively behind the scenes on the sketch she appeared in, and to his surprise, found himself telling her to go against her instincts and not prep so hard.

Day reflected on the wild life moment during a recent appearance on Hey Dude… The 90s Called. In case you’re out of the loop, that’s the podcast hosted by former Hey Dude stars Christine Taylor and David Lascher. Day is the co-writer on the alien abduction sketches, which Streep appeared in, and at SNL, if you write a sketch, you’re also the producer who works with the various departments and the actors to get everything ready for air.

During that process, he worked with Streep, who was apparently doing way more than most cast members and hosts. She was memorizing her lines and really getting into character, which led Day to tell her to consider just reading her lines off the cue cards. Here’s a portion of his quote…

You can tell during Day’s entire recollection of the story that he’s really amused by what happened. She’s been nominated for 21 acting Oscars and is widely considered one of the all-time greats, but because she’d never been on SNL before, he was in this unnerving position to speak on this specific type of acting with more authority. Sometimes life is really weird.

I might not be a Mikey Day level expert, but I’ve watched hundreds of SNL episodes with hundreds of different guests hosts and celebrities doing cameos, and the key is always just embracing whatever the material is. The best hosts are always the ones who just jump into the deep end of the pool and have fun, no matter what the material is. Streep clearly does that here. She manspreads just as wide as McKinnon. She goes with the outrageous material and clearly has a great time, which is all the audience ever wants to watch anyway.

As for Day, he’s built himself a really nice career. He’s been on SNL in some capacity for more than ten years and hosts the popular Netflix show Is It Cake? He also regularly picks up supporting roles in movies and does a lot of voice work. He also attracted a ton of attention recently for that hysterical Beavis and Butt-head sketch with Ryan Gosling, none of which is as cool as being able to say Meryl Streep went to you for acting advice.

SNL is currently on hiatus for the summer but will return again next season for its 51st run. There are still a lot of question marks about who will be back, but Day has made it clear he's planning to return. Fingers crossed he'll get to cross paths with some more acting legends.

If you follow all the upcoming Marvel movies, you know we’ve come to expect release date shifts over the years. And as a fan, I think more often than not it’s a good sign a movie is getting more time to become the best it can be.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are being moved from May 2026 and 2027 to December 2026 and 2027. But, I haven’t seen enough talk about The Devil Wears Prada 2 actually taking Doomsday’s release date. That’s right, the sequel is coming out on May 1, 2026, and I need this to be a conversation.

Everyone’s Been Talking About Avengers: Doomsday’s New Release Date

Honestly, from my standpoint, it’s totally fine that Doomsday is now coming out on December 18, 2026 and Secret Wars will be released on December 17, 2027. We’ve never had an Avengers movie come out during the holiday season, and I think it’s a fun change of pace. Plus, the movie just started production last month, and a year is not a lot of time for one of the biggest franchises to bake the next Marvel event film.

Since the news came out, the big headlines that came out were regarding Dune: Messiah's current release date, as it's expected to come out on the same day. Of course, if it does shake out that way, it’d be a big deal for the movie business because those are such big franchises. However, I’m also not convinced Messiah will hold given we haven’t heard much about it, and Dune movies have been delayed before.

But, The Devil Wears Prada 2 News That Came With It Is A Big Deal In My Opinion

I think the big lead that was buried here was the fact that The Devil Wears Prada 2 was given a release date in Doomsday’s old slot, and it’s a prime piece of real estate. Guys, it’s a big deal that a comedy movie produced by Disney is coming out at a prime slot at the top of the summer season, because I think that shows a lot of faith in the sequel!

The Devil Wears Prada sequel was originally announced in July with word that the same writer of the original movie would be doing the script. I haven’t been paying much attention to this movie because we haven’t heard if the original cast like Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are going to come back (in October Tucci said he hadn’t heard anything about it). But I just don’t see why Disney would make a sequel and place it in a spot that previously belonged to the Avengers if they didn’t have big things planned for it.

Now, I also think part of this shift for Doomsday may have to do with Thunderbolts* not doing as well commercially as Disney wanted, but I’m very happy that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is on the theatrical calendar in a place that makes me more confident in what the studio is making. That’s all!

Kelly Clarkson may not have the same reputation as Taylor Swift for writing songs that skewer her ex-boyfriends, but nobody can argue that “Since U Been Gone” is one of the best breakup anthems ever. The American Idol alum doubled down in 2023 with Chemistry — an entire album inspired by her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. Maybe time has healed some of those wounds, because the inspiration behind her newest single is something decidedly different — Only Murders in the Building.

Thankfully, Kelly Clarkson hasn’t gone full true crime podcast with her next project (although that actually might be intriguing). It was one specific line from Martin Short’s hilarious Oliver on the popular murder mystery (streaming with a Hulu subscription) that inspired Kelly Clarkson’s new song “Where Have You Been.” As she explained in a behind-the-scenes video:

Meryl Streep made her OMITB debut in Season 3 as struggling actress Loretta Durkin who gets cast in Oliver’s play. It’s unknown if the acting legend will return for Only Murders in the Building Season 5 (which is expected to be part of the 2025 TV schedule), but it seems likely, given the characters’ relationship. The chemistry between the two was off the charts from the start, which Kelly Clarkson couldn’t help but notice. She said:

The connection between the characters has led to rumors that Martin Short and Meryl Streep are dating in real life, and Short recalled that Streep was even brought to tears after one of their pivotal romantic scenes. While they’ve never confirmed an off-screen romance, fans can’t get enough of their viral moments, and hats off to Kelly Clarkson for recognizing true love when she sees it. She continued:

I agree with Kelly Clarkson that as strange as it may sound that she was inspired by Only Murders in the Building, it’s really not that weird and actually quite beautiful. What is kind of funny, though, is that it’s not the singer’s only connection to the show. Martin Short’s co-star and longtime friend Steve Martin actually played banjo on Clarkson’s song “I Hate Love” from her Chemistry album. Now if only she can collab with Selena Gomez on something …

That time has come. We no longer get to look forward to the next The White Lotus episode on the 2025 TV schedule, because this weekend is the end! Of Season 3, at least. Now our final theories are in, it's time to look forward to Season 4 and while yes, we've been thinking ahead about where it could be set, I actually think what might be more interesting is who signs on for the cast. So, I asked two of this season’s cast members, and they had some solid ideas.

So far, we’ve seen a slew of big stars join The White Lotus. Remember when Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario (and her white bikini) and Sydney Sweeney were all in the first season? And what about Aubrey Plaza and the return of Jennifer Coolidge in Season 2? The Season 3 cast has been even more stacked with the likes of Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Lalalisa all a part of it. Who could be next?

The White Lotus’s youngest cast members Sarah Catherine Hook and Sam Nivola, who play two of the Ratliff kids have some ideas. As Nivola brainstormed:

Oh, I love Walken in Severance, and would be so game for the 82-year-old to play a retiree with some sort of dark secret in the next The White Lotus edition. Plus, due to Severance, we already know he's game for TV.

Sure, the 84-year-old Al Pacino would also be a great character actor from the same generation to catch on the small screen for another one of Mike White’s enrapturing storylines. Cruise is another interesting one because the actor has been so invested in big-screen affairs, so it’s the last place we’d think to find him, though that probably means a Lotus appearance is never gonna happen.

Nivola, who is actually the son of Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola, also said he’s thought about Kieran Culkin before as well. Culkin recently was part of the 2025 Academy Award winners for A Real Pain after having an incredible run on TV (full of award wins) as part of the Succession cast as well. And, Hook had this fabulous idea to throw out there:

I mean, of course. How could someone not mention Meryl Streep? She belongs everywhere always. And we definitely know she’s been loving being part of television shows given her stint on Only Murders In The Building after previously doing Big Little Lies. N

ow, if Streep were to come on The White Lotus, I’d definitely want her to play something completely different from other roles of hers, but to me this is a solid thought and one I'd love to see play out in Mike White's hotel universe.

During the interview, we also talked about how an actor from the ‘90s like Alicia Silverstone would be a good pick to follow up Posey’s viral time in Season 3. Though whether an actor signs on might have to do with which location the next season is going to be filmed in. For Season 3, the cast committed to being in Thailand for seven months, which proved to be oddly lonely for many of them.

And of course there’s always Parker Posey’s ideas for Jennifer Coolidge to return via hallucination! We’ll of course be looking out for casting updates once Season 4 does get underway.

We all have those celebrities that, were we to meet them, we might freak out a bit more than if we met others. Of course, even Hollywood stars have those people. It’s not a shock to learn there are celebrities that Jason Momoa might freak out about meeting, but I must say I would not have guessed that Meryl Streep would make that list.

SNL50 was certainly a who’s who of the famous people of the last five decades, and while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jason Momoa says he had a blast attending the anniversary special, fancy tickets included, while meeting people from Bill Murray to Cher. But it was when he saw Meryl Streep that he started to freak out a little. Momoa said:

To be fair, Meryl Streep is one of the greatest actresses who has ever lived, so there are probably a lot of people who would go a little fanboy if they had a chance to meet her. Although, I’m having trouble envisioning a nervous Jason Momoa as he walked over to introduce himself.

Of course, whatever Momoa thought was going to happen when he introduced himself to Meryl Streep was apparently not what actually happened. He clearly didn’t expect Streep to have any idea who he was, so was more than a little shocked when it turned out she did. He continued, saying:

Now that we know that Jason Momoa and Meryl Streep are big fans of each other, this of course means that we need to see them in a movie together. Is there a place for Meryl Streep in James Gunn’s new DCU?

Momoa’s days as Aquaman are over, but he’s currently filming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and playing intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo. Finding a role in the DCU where she could play opposite Lobo would be the perfect way to cement this new friendship.

I think it’s safe to say that for the time being, and until at least Wicked For Good’s arrival on the 2025 movie schedule, musicals are back, baby! Universal’s crazy popular hit known as the first Wicked has raked in a ton of money, awards recognition, and cultural cache since its release late last year, which means we might see more projects of the all singing and dancing variety.

So of course, I had to use that fact to ask the wonderful Amanda Seyfried if that joyous occasion has gotten the world any closer to seeing Mamma Mia 3. Through her response, and some other coincidental developments, I think that this Mean Girls legend is going to leave her fans with a song in their hearts for, at least, a decade.

Mamma Mia 3 Is ‘Gonna Happen,’ According To Amanda Seyfried

As we were on hand to talk about her new Peacock subscription driver Long Bright River, both myself and her co-star Nicholas Pinnock were curious about that very subject. You have to admit, when you have Cher talking up a Mamma Mia sequel as recently as last fall, that topic is still very buzzworthy indeed.

But as Seyfried filled CinemaBlend in on her dedication to making it happen, even she wasn’t sure how Meryl Streep would fit in. Here’s what she had to say:

Amanda Seyfried: "I think Mamma Mia 3 will be madness, because we have two different casts. I don't know where everybody will be. I don't know if Meryl's going to be dead or alive."

Nicholas Pinnock: "But all we want to know is, is it gonna happen?"

Amanda Seyfried: "Yeah. It's gonna happen within the next 12 years, for sure."

Put it on the poster, Universal: “Mamma 3-ia, coming to theaters by no later than 2037!” Now before you start to get worried about the health of Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, I don’t think that’s what Amanda Seyfried meant by her remark. Rather I think she was referring to the fact that 2018’s Godfather-influenced follow-up Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again saw Streep’s character Donna killed offscreen, just as Sophie (Seyfried) was about to have her own child.

That viewpoint tracks, as the “two different casts” comment probably hints at how Mamma Mia 3 would presumably continue to follow the parallel stories of Donna and Sophie's journeys into motherhood. We’d potentially see a setup where Sophie's reading more into her mother’s diaries while raising her son Donny. Those exploits would allow for both Meryl Streep and Lily James’ incarnations of Donna and the Dynamos’ frontwoman herself to return in a clearly heartwarming narrative.

As for Amanda Seyfried’s hypothetical 2037 deadline, I think that the Mean Girls legend is setting a timeline that puts herself closer to the age Meryl Streep was when playing Donna in the 2008 original. That would hopefully be a huge full circle moment that allows Seyfried’s dream Mamma Mia 3 musical number to take shape, while also allowing her to impress her Mamma Mia obsessed daughter even more.

Amanda Seyfried Might Also Be Up For Taking Part Of Mamma Mia’s 2025 Broadway Revival

As if anyone needed another sign that Mamma Mia 3 needs to happen, it should be noted that we’re now in the pre-sale period for the Broadway revival of the show that started it all. Going into this interview with that knowledge also had me primed to ask if Amanda Seyfried would want to join the production, even if it was just on a limited time basis.

The future of Mamma Mia is looking bright, and should Wicked For Good hit as well as the first half did, that statement could improve in value. Then again, if Mamma Mia crossed $500 million at the box office in the summer of The Dark Knight, I'd say it's still a safe bet to start talking out a plan. People just want an excuse to sing “Waterloo” in the streets once again, and why should they be denied?

The whole La La Land Oscars brouhaha at the 2018 ceremony was quite memorable, but clearly so was star Emma Stone's performance as aspiring actress Mia Dolen opposite Ryan Gosling's jazz pianist Seb Wilder. One of Stone's best movies, the role earned the star her first Best Actress win (she would strike gold yet again with her 2024 victory for Poor Things). Her next performance also stirred up awards buzz: she was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for portraying tennis legend Billie Jean King in the sports drama Battle of the Sexes.

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep's history with the Academy Awards is long and legendary: over her decades-spanning career, she's been nominated for a record 21 Oscar nominations, winning thrice. After taking home the Supporting Actress statuette for Kramer vs. Kramer, Streep got her first big Best Actress win for one of her most iconic performances: as the titular character of the devastating 1982 drama Sophie's Choice. Her next role was just as haunting: as Karen Silkwood in the 1983 thriller Silkwood, for which she earned yet another Best Actress nod.

Michelle Yeoh

Along with kicking major butt, Michelle Yeoh made history with her starring role as Evelyn Quan Wang in the 2022 action-dramedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, for she became the first Asian performer to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. Following that notable win in 2023, the Wicked star lent her voice to the sci-fi flick Transformers: Rise of the Beasts as Airazor, a Maximal warrior who transforms into a peregrine falcon. That title earned largely mixed reviews, and it currently sports a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jessica Chastain

After losing out on the Oscar for Zero Dark Thirty, Jessica Chastain took the Best Actress trophy home for her transformative role as televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in the 2022 bio-drama The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Her next project was far less successful with awards bodies — the action-spy thriller The 355 was both a critical and commercial bomb, reportedly losing Universal an estimated $93 million. Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph wrote: "Despite the strong cast, this is the film equivalent of a corn-syrup-based fizzy drink being passed off as chic in taller, slimmer cans."

Frances McDormand

Three-time Best Actress winner Frances McDormand took home her first Oscar in 1997 for her instantly iconic performance as Minnesota police chief Marge Gunderson in the classic Coen Brothers dark comedy Fargo. Later that year, the acclaimed performer joined a heavyweight lineup of actresses — including Glenn Close, Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Ehle — in the World War II drama Paradise Road. However, despite that acting clout, the film received mixed reviews, with its approval rating at a lowly 43% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Brie Larson

Child actor turned Marvel superhero Brie Larson took her career to a whole new level with her performance as kidnapping victim Joy "Ma" Newsome in the 2015 survival drama Room, for which she swept the subsequent awards season and took home the Best Actress Oscar. In 2016, the Lessons in Chemistry lead starred in another survival drama, this time the Ben Wheatley-directed action-comedy Free Fire. CinemaBlend's own Gregory Wakeman wrote of the film: "Free Fire has enough gun blasts and violence to entertain, but ultimately lacks the requisite surprises or savvy to be anything more than a frivolous diversion."

Olivia Colman

Olivia Colman's Best Actress win for her portrayal of Queen Anne in the black-comedy period piece The Favourite was a deserved yet delightfully shocking moment at the 2019 Oscars. Her next role was equally strange, but less acclaimed: she appeared alongside Kaitlyn Dever, Jim Gaffigan and Walton Goggins as snake-handling fundamentalists in the horror mystery Them That Follow. Though it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, it earned mixed reviews from critics.

Cate Blanchett

One of the most versatile actors in the industry — she's played Queen Elizabeth I and Bob Dylan, for crying out loud! — eight-time Oscar nominee Cate Blanchett secured her first Best Actress win in 2014 playing a neurotic former socialite in the Woody Allen-directed dramedy Blue Jasmine. And speaking of versatility, the Aussie star followed that awards win with a voice role in the animated fantasy sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2, which got its own Oscar nod for Best Animated Feature.

Sandra Bullock

Rom-com queen Sandra Bullock received her first Best Actress nomination and win in 2010 for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy in the biographical football drama The Blind Side. Her next film credit was the Stephen Daldry-directed 2011 drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which did manage to score a Best Picture nod but not without controversy. Chris Krapek of The Huffington Post called the film "not only the worst reviewed Best Picture nominee of the last 10 years, [but] easily the worst film of 2011."

Katharine Hepburn

Hollywood icon Katherine Hepburn earned four Academy Awards for Best Actress out of 12 nominations across her illustrious film career—a record for any performer. The leading lady's first Oscar win was in 1934 for the Pre-Code drama Morning Glory (the rest would come later in the star's life), which she followed up with John Cromwell's Spitfire. Some viewers found Hepburn miscast as "hillbilly" faith healer Trigger Hicks — the film has a 35% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman didn't win the Best Actress Oscar for one of her most beloved performances, as cabaret star Satine in Moulin Rouge! but she instead secured the big win only a year later for playing English writer Virginia Woolf in The Hours. The Babygirl star's first post-award project was the 2003 avant-garde thriller Dogville, written and directed by Lars von Trier. Though the film prompted quite a polarizing response from critics at the time of release, it did end up on several best-of-the-decade roundups, including The Guardian and Paste.

Jennifer Lawrence

If they didn't already love her from her work in the David O. Russell dramedy Silver Linings Playbook, the world certainly fell for Jennifer Lawrence when she charmingly tripped up the stairs to accept her Best Actress statuette in 2013. That fall, she would reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen in the second Mockingjay movie, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which is widely considered the best installment of The Hunger Games film series (it's got a solid 90% Rotten Tomatoes rating) and earned Lawrence a Critics' Choice nod.

Helen Mirren

Dame Helen Mirren is a regal onscreen presence no matter what the role, but her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 docudrama The Queen welcomed her among the Hollywood royalty known as Oscar winners. However, despite the film title, she didn't strike gold with her next project: the Nicolas Cage-led adventure flick National Treasure: Book of Secrets, alongside Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, Ed Harris and Diane Kruger. Per Rotten Tomatoes, critic consensus said of the 35% "Rotten" movie: "A talented cast goes to waste in the improbable National Treasure: Book of Secrets."

Jodie Foster

One of Hollywood's most acclaimed child stars — she was only 12 years old when she starred opposite Robert De Niro in the Martin Scorsese masterpiece Taxi Driver, earning her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress — Jodie Foster successfully segued into more adult fare with the 1988 legal drama The Accused. As an assault survivor Sarah Tobias, Foster received a Best Actress win—it wouldn't be her last, with the star winning the same award for her next film release, one of the greatest horror movies of all time, The Silence of the Lambs.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry made Oscar history when she became the first African-American woman ever to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, for her performance as a struggling widow in 2001's Monster's Ball. After becoming an Oscar winner, Berry became a Bond Girl — bikini-sporting NSA agent Jinx, to be exact — in the 2002 spy flick Die Another Day, opposite Pierce Brosnan as 007. However, the latter is widely considered to be the worst entry in James Bond's canon.

Julie Andrews

A legendary performer across both screen and stage, Julie Andrews won her Best Actress Oscar in 1964 for a truly iconic role: as the titular nanny extraordinaire in Mary Poppins. And she didn't stop there — the very next year, she would get yet another Academy Award nomination for an equally beloved character, as The Sound of Music's Maria, the sweet, singing governess to the Von Trapp family. Talk about an epic filmography!

Kathy Bates

One of the best Kathy Bates performances, as obsessive superfan Annie Wilkes in the 1990 Stephen King thriller Misery, earned the talented actress her first Academy Award nomination and win. (She would have three more Oscar nods across her decades-spanning career.) Bates' next film role was in the South African drama The Road to Mecca, based on the Athol Fugard play of the same name — the performer was praised for both her acting and her accent work.

Hilary Swank

Before there were transgender characters like Emilia Pérez (Emilia Pérez), Sin-Dee Rella (Tangerine), or Raymond Rayon (Dallas Buyers Club), there was Brandon Teena, the real-life trans man at the center of the 1999 drama Boys Don't Cry. Hilary Swank's harrowing, career-making performance as Teena earned the star her first Best Actress award, with critics like Entertainment Weekly's Owen Gleiberman calling the actress a "revelation" in the film. Reactions to her next movie, the 2000 supernatural thriller The Gift, were far more mixed. A. O. Scott of The New York Times wrote: "The picture is saved from mediocrity by [director Sam] Raimi's smooth competence, and by the unusually high quality of the acting."

Renée Zellweger

After prior Best Actress nominations for two of her best movies, Bridget Jones' Diary and Chicago — plus a Best Supporting Actress win for Cold Mountain — Renée Zellweger finally got her big Best Actress win for her portrayal of Judy Garland in Rupert Goold's Judy. After taking a multi-year break from acting, Zellweger's much-anticipated next film credit will be a return to a beloved role, in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman was so convincing as a troubled ballerina in the 2010 psychological thriller Black Swan that she thought the film was a docudrama while making it. So, it's no surprise, then, that her tour-de-force performance garnered the star an Academy Award for Best Actress. Ever one to keep you guessing genre-wise, Portman's next role was in the 2011 stoner fantasy-comedy Your Highness, which sadly was a box office bomb and received largely negative reviews from critics.

Cher

The "Goddess of Pop" Cher officially added the title of "Oscar winner" to her already legendary showbiz career with her 1988 Best Actress triumph for one of her best movies, the acclaimed rom-com Moonstruck. Her next movie role came two years later as Rachel Flax, the saucy single mom to young Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci in the 1990 dramedy Mermaids. The heartfelt title has been dubbed an "underappreciated 1990s coming-of-age gem" by The Guardian, which singled out Cher's performance as "nothing short of magical."

Kate Winslet

One of the greatest performers of her generation, it took Kate Winslet a whopping six Oscar nominations before she finally took home the Academy Award for Best Actress, for playing a former Nazi camp guard in 2008's The Reader. Her next onscreen role was in the 2011 black comedy Carnage, by disgraced director Roman Polanski. The film received positive reviews, with critics praising the performances of the cast, including Winslet's — she earned a Golden Globe nod for Best Actress in a Motional Picture Musical or Comedy.

Julia Roberts

After a decade that solidified her as rom-com royalty, Julia Roberts proved her dramatic bonafides by winning the Best Actress Oscar for playing the title role in the 2000 legal drama Erin Brockovich, one of her best movies. America's Sweetheart returned to her romantic comedy roots with her next film, fittingly entitled America's Sweethearts, though critics weren't too sweet on the movie. It only holds a 33% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes, with the site's consensus reading: "Despite its famous cast, the movie lacks sympathetic characters and is only funny in spurts."

Susan Sarandon

After Oscar nominations for Atlantic City, Thelma & Louise, Lorenzo's Oil and The Client, Susan Sarandon was finally named Best Actress by the Academy for playing Sister Helen Prejean in 1995's Dead Man Walking. Her next film was the decidedly lighter kids' flick James and the Giant Peach, in which Sarandon voiced the character of Miss Spider. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with Randy Newman's score earning an Oscar nod; however, the film was a box office failure, grossing $300,000 less than its budget.

Marion Cotillard

French movie star Marion Cotillard became the first actor to win an Academy Award for a French-language performance for her transformative turn as legendary singer Édith Piaf in the 2007 music biopic La Vie en Rose. Her next film credit was another biographical drama — this time, the Michael Mann-directed gangster film Public Enemies, alongside Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Though many critics praised the leading performances, reviews were mixed, with the title holding a 68% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Marlee Matlin

Marlee Matlin's acting debut in 1986's Children of a Lesser God saw the actress making Oscar history not once but twice: she became the first deaf performer to ever win an Academy Award, as well as the youngest winner in the Best Actress category. The CODA star followed up that momentous victory with the 1987 Western Walker, starring Ed Harris, Richard Masur and Peter Boyle. The historical drama was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 38th Berlin International Film Festival but received very polarized reviews and was a failure at the box office.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Fun fact: Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't initially supposed to star as Viola de Lesseps in the 1998 Bard-inspired romantic comedy Shakespeare in Love — Julia Roberts was. But Gwyn is no doubt grateful the latter ultimately left the production, as the role won her a Best Actress Oscar. Her next project was equally acclaimed: 1999's Anthony Minghella-helmed thriller The Talented Mr. Ripley scored five Academy Award nominations.

Audrey Hepburn

Screen legend Audrey Hepburn won her first Oscar in 1953 for her debut starring role, as Princess Ann in the classic black-and-white comedy Roman Holiday. The British beauty would later be nominated four more times for films like her first post-award project, the 1954 Billy Wilder-directed dramedy Sabrina, as well as The Nun's Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Wait Until Dark.

Sally Field

The Academy likes her, they really like her — yes, Sally Field has won not one but two Best Actress statuettes, the first being for her inspiring performance in 1979's Norma Rae and the second five years later for another one of her best films, Places in the Heart. Following her first win, Field reprised her role as Carrie, or "Frog," in 1980's Smoky and the Bandit II opposite her real-life love Burt Reynolds. Though the sequel was a box office success, prompting a third film, it received almost entirely negative reviews from critics.

Charlize Theron

One of the best Charlize Theron roles was also the star's most remarkably unrecognizable: the South African-born actress earned a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of real-life prostitute and serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 crime drama Monster. Her next big-screen performance was the 2004 war drama Head in the Clouds, which saw Theron acting opposite her then-romantic partner Stuart Townsend. The film was a critical and box office failure; in the San Francisco Chronicle, Walter Addiego wrote: "If not for the presence of Charlize Theron, it's hard to imagine this film would have attracted anywhere near the kind of attention it's gotten."

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon proved she was more than just a musical sidekick with her Oscar-winning performance as June Carter Cash in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line. The Legally Blonde star was next seen in the harrowing 2007 political thriller Rendition opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streep and Peter Sarsgaard. However, "the impressive cast cannot rescue Rendition, which explores complex issues in woefully simplified terms," reads the critics' consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, with the film at a paltry 47% approval rating.

Elizabeth Taylor

Through much of the mid-20th century, celluloid icon Elizabeth Taylor was one of MGM's most bankable stars. In fact, her final film for the studio — 1960's Butterfield 8, playing glamorous call girl Gloria Wandrous — earned the movie star her first Academy Award for Best Actress. Her next performance was just as iconic: as the titular Egyptian queen in the 1963 historical epic Cleopatra, which received nine Oscar nominations and four wins, though, alas, none for Taylor specifically.

Kathy Bates and Meryl Streep are truly iconic and acclaimed talents in Hollywood. To hear that the two had a cinematic moment bonding after losing the Academy Award is priceless. And it happened long before their present and respective shows became highly anticipated anchors in our 2025 TV schedule.

While joining the Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast the Misery actress dished on loving life on Paramount+’s Matlock, awards shows pasts’ and the incredible shared moment with the Doubt star. She said this of losing out on the Supporting Actress award in 2003 to Chicago's Catherine Zeta-Jones:

What an absolute gem of a story between the two award-winning actresses. The moment oozes with Hollywood royalty, as Bates describes it. And then, the full and natural incorporation of one of the best lines of all time seals it as a historic Tinseltown offscreen moment–at least for me. Here’s to hoping that our upcoming awards shows continue in this spirit, they’ve been off to a great start, after all.

The Titanic alum relished the off-stage Oscar moment before going on to shed light on the reality of how the two veterans actually felt, saying:

Although neither is returning to the penultimate awards show this year, both have been attached to notable shows. With Matlock’s midseason break returning at the end of January, Kathy Bates shouldn’t dwell on the previous “L” for too long. Both she and Meryl Streep will have plenty to celebrate as both shows continue to garner great success. Let’s just hope for some new absolute killer exchange the two can have at this year’s awards shows, although, I don’t think much can compare to Bates saying to Streep, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

I know young love is typically reserved for those who are, for lack of a better term, young. However, sometimes love stories can transpire between older folks that feel like young love in the best way. On Only Murders in the Building, Martin Short’s Oliver and Meryl Streep’s Loretta experience just that. It turns out that one of their pivotal scenes from Season 3 actually made Streep cry, because she was so happy to be playing out a wonderful, joyful romance.

In Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building, one of the suspects was Loretta for a while, but more importantly, she was Oliver’s love interest after he cast her in his musical Death Rattle Dazzle. While speaking with Decider about OMITB Season 4, co-creator John Hoffman opened up about Streep and Short’s on and off-screen chemistry, and he detailed the scene that made the Devil Wears Prada actress so emotional, and you can’t tell me this isn’t the sweetest thing ever:

Fittingly, Season 3, Episode 5 is called “Ah, Love!” and it features Oliver and Loretta having quite the date night. It begins in the actress’s tiny apartment where they share an overly-cooked pork chop dinner that causes Short’s character to lose his tooth.

Eventually, the two end up on a ferry, Loretta offers Oliver a flask and a joint, and they share a lot of stories and laughs. While Short’s character was using the date to try and cross Loretta off Only Murders in the Building’s Season 3 suspect list, he also declared his feelings for her, saying:

They both can't stop smiling after that, and Streep’s character teaches Short’s about the “tooth ferry” as they throw his lost tooth overboard. Obviously, it then ends with a kiss. It’s a totally unique, silly and lovely moment, and Streep is right, we don’t get to see love stories like this play out with older couples.

When you look at the list of the best rom-coms, most of the time the leads are young. So, as a viewer, it's always amazing to see older couples represented in these stories, and as the Oscar winner explained, it means a lot for her to play them out too. So, I totally get why she got choked up after filming the ferry scene.

Now, Meryl Streep and Martin Short are still playing lovebirds on screen as Loretta and Oliver navigate the struggles of a long-distance relationship in Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building (which just finished its run on the 2024 TV schedule).

Of course, rumors about pairs like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce or Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet or even Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are expected to be constant. However, there’s been a surprising amount of chatter around the possibility that Martin Short and Meryl Streep could be dating. Now, as that viral discourse continues, Only Murders in the Building’s co-creator has opened up about the co-stars on and off-screen relationship.

In the midst of Only Murders in the Building Season 4 airing on the 2024 TV schedule, there have been rumors and speculation going around about the state of Martin Short and Meryl Streep’s personal relationship. With Streep returning to the OMITB cast for its fourth installment as Oliver’s love interest Loretta, their chemistry is ever present on screen, and when the two are spotted out and about in their time off, they’re adorable. So, during an interview with Decider, the show’s co-creator John Hoffman was asked about the actors’ relationship, and he said:

For a bit of context, at the start of the year, the actors went to the Golden Globes together and they were holding hands, Vulture explained. Around the same time, Streep and Short went viral for photos at the AFI Awards that included the Devil Wears Prada star adorably shoving the Three Amigos actor away by putting her hand in his face.

Rumors continued as the two were spotted out and about together. While nothing has been confirmed it’s clear they’re close, and therefore, the internet thinks they might be dating. Then, on October 18, Steve Martin posted a photo on Instagram of him with Streep and Short, however, he notably (and hilariously) put a big red cancel sign through his own face. That caused a flurry online as some thought the Charles actor launched his co-stars' relationship. But again, nothing is confirmed.

However, Hoffman’s recent comments do confirm that Martin Short and Meryl Streep love each other dearly (whether that’s platonically, professionally, romantically or all of the above, we don’t know), and that’s so sweet to hear.

In Season 4 of Only Murders, we get to see the two’s chemistry on display here and there as Oliver and Loretta navigate the challenges of a long-distance relationship. Now, going into the finale, we might get to see the wedding they’ve been planning!

So, while Streep and Short’s real-life relationship status is unknown and adorable, we do know their characters are very much in love on-screen. It’s lovely to see too, because the actors have such delightful chemistry.
