Austin Butler’s work schedule sounds exhausting, but also like he's opened Hollywood’s junk drawer and found nothing but prestige projects. The Oscar nominee has a Lance Armstrong biopic, a Park Chan-wook Western with Matthew McConaughey and, maybe most intriguingly for fans of new action movies, the recently confirmed Miami Vice reboot with Michael B. Jordan and director Joseph Kosinski. The actor has finally broken his silence on joining MBJ for the Miami reboot, and it sounds exciting.

It was reported last year that Butler was being eyed to play the role of Det. James "Sonny Crockett in the latest Miami Vice movie alongside Jordan's Det. Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs. Earlier this year, Butler's involvement was reportedly confirmed. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Butler was asked directly if he was looking forward to Miami Vice, and his answer was brief but enthusiastic. The actor did not spill plot details, but responded:

That is the first real temperature check we’ve gotten from Butler on the project, and it sounds like he’s very much all in. The reboot, titled Miami Vice ’85, has already drawn attention because of the talent attached. Kosinski is coming off major crowd-pleasing work with Top Gun: Maverick and F1, while newly minted Oscar winner Jordan has continued building a movie-star/director résumé that makes almost anything he joins worth tracking.

Butler Sounds Especially Excited About Michael B. Jordan

Butler and Jordan were previously paired with Paul Mescal for Vanity Fair’s Hollywood cover, and the magazine also featured the trio in a fun video where they watched iconic movie clips together. So Miami Vice ’85 will give Butler and Jordan a chance to actually share the screen. When asked whether he was excited to reunite with Jordan, he kept the praise coming:

For me, the Butler/Jordan pairing is the real draw here. Miami Vice is a known quantity, but nothing I have a particular relationship with, and that may be true for tons of potential theater goers. The reboot will need more than brand recognition. The original TV series has its own neon-soaked identity, and Michael Mann’s 2006 film has a moody, bruising energy that people still argue about. A new version has to justify itself, and casting two actors with serious screen presence is a pretty good place to start.

Miami Vice ’85 Has Some Serious Style Potential

The reboot's title alone suggests the movie may lean into the period setting rather than try to drag Miami Vice into the present day. That could be a smart move. The 1980s are baked into the franchise's DNA. When I think of Miami Vice, what immediately comes to mind is the music, cars, suits, heat, danger and the kind of cool that looks effortless.

Butler feels like a natural fit for that type of world. He has already shown he can carry a very specific aesthetic without disappearing inside it, whether playing Elvis Presley or bringing quiet swagger to The Bikeriders. Or, starring in another period piece, like Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. Jordan, meanwhile, has the charisma and physicality to make the action side click. One needn't look further than Jordan's celebrated work in Sinners or the Creed movies to get a sense of his talents.

With Kosinski behind the camera, this reboot also has a chance to feel big and very cinematic. If Miami Vice ’85 is going to work, it probably needs to look expensive, move fast and still have enough character tension under the hood to keep it from becoming a music video with badges.

For now, Austin Butler is wise not to give much away. But between his excitement for his co-star, his praise for the director and the sheer “wait, this could actually rip” potential of the project, Miami Vice ’85 is starting to look like one of the more interesting reboots on the horizon.

After months and months of waiting and speculation, we finally got an update about the book-to-screen adaptation of Fourth Wing. At Amazon’s Upfronts, executive producer Michael B. Jordan, author Rebecca Yarros and more showed up to talk about what’s to come with this highly anticipated series. However, this appearance also got me thinking about casting, as one fan posted a realization they had about a popular fancast in the comments.

Michael B. Jordan, Rebecca Yarros And The Fourth Wing Team Shared An Exciting Update

It was revealed that Amazon gave the Fourth Wing show a series order at its Upfronts. Michael B. Jordan appeared at the event to talk about this alongside executive producer and director Lisa Joy, showrunner Meredith Averill, and, of course, Rebecca Yarros, the author of the books, who will also be an executive producer on the series.

During the presentation, Jordan spoke about adapting these books and specifically explained the importance of hiring the right creative partners before introducing Joy (via Deadline):

This quote goes right along with Jordan’s previous comments about Fourth Wing, as he’s maintained that they know how beloved this IP is, and they’re working hard to create something the fans will love.

Now, while plenty of folks actually connected to the Fourth Wing series were at this big event to talk about the show, a popular fancast happened to be at the Upfronts too (but to promote something else that he's actually in). And thankfully, one fan pointed that out, and that’s why I’m thinking about Josh Heuston and his potential to be in this cast…again.

One Fan Pointed Out That A Popular Fourth Wing Fancast Was At The Same Event

Alright, around the time this announcement was made, Prime Video posted about it on Instagram with a photo of Jordan, Yarros, Joy and Averill (which you can see above). Down in the comments, makeup2themaxx realized that she’d seen a popular Fourth Wing fan cast at the same event:

Obviously, nothing is confirmed, and this is likely just a coincidence, seeing as Amazon was announcing news about a wide variety of its programs. However, the fact that paths could have crossed here is very exciting. So, let's talk about why.

I want you to look at the photo of Jordan and co. above, and take note of the background. Then, take a look at the image below of the cast for Prime Video’s hockey romance Off Campus. Both projects were represented at Amazon’s Upfronts, and that’s notable because Josh Heuston – who plays Justin in Off Campus, and is standing on the far right in the cast image below – is a very popular choice to play either Xaden or Bodhi in Fourth Wing.

In fact, he’s been asked about it here and there for a while now, and with Off Campus preparing to premiere on the 2026 TV schedule on the same service Fourth Wing will eventually be on, the questions have come up again.

Actually, I asked him during an interview for CinemaBlend if he’d be down to star in another massive BookTok hit like Fourth Wing, and here’s what he said:

Well, that’s not a no, and it’s a sentiment he’s maintained across the press tour for Off Campus. Then, at Upfronts, People asked him about the fancast, and he noted that he’s “seen some things” on the internet. He also expressed his love for fantasy, and when asked if he’d be interested in a project like that, he said:

It’s crazy that he was playing coy like that during an event where such a big Fourth Wing development was announced! No wonder the fan pointed out the parallel.

I guess now we’ll just have to cross our fingers and hope he really does get cast in this show, because I totally see the vision. In the meantime, though, you can see Heuston in Off Campus when it premieres for those with an Amazon Prime subscription on May 13. Then, make sure to keep that subscription around, because that’s how you’re going to be able to eventually watch Fourth Wing.

Jack Ryan may have ended its four-season run on Prime Video after four seasons, but the John Krasinski-led franchise is returning by way of a new film, subtitled Ghost War, that’s set to hit the 2026 movie schedule. The existence of the follow-up flick is a testament to the IP’s continued popularity as well as the buzz surrounding the Tom Clancy TV universe as a whole. Given that, CinemaBlend recently asked Krasinski about the notion of crossing over with Alan Ritchson’s Reacher. However, Krasinski's idea got me even more excited.

Considering the ongoing success of the Clancy shows, it would just make too much sense to have some cross-pollination. Jack Ryan and the record-breaking Reacher honestly do feel like a match made in high-octane heaven. When I spoke to Krasinski in promotion of Ghost War, he didn’t confirm whether or not he’d spoken to Prime Video about having Ryan cross paths with other do-gooders. However, he did confirm that he’d spoken to a fellow A-lister about bringing back their Clancy character:

Michael B. Jordan notably plays the role of John Kelly in 2021’s Without Remorse, and the film sees Kelly – a former Navy SEAL – on a quest for retribution following the deaths of his wife and unit cohorts. Honestly, I hadn’t even considered the notion of Jordan (a newly minted Oscar winner) reprising Kelly let alone teaming up with Jack Ryan. However, the thought of such a crossover is just too cool to ignore, and it delights me that John Krasinski has apparently even spoken to the Creed star about it.

Of course, as mentioned, Jordan’s availability is a factor, but I think this project is worth pursuing. Jordan would lend a considerable amount of star power to an already-flourishing franchise. Not only that, but he and Krasinski could make for an imposing on-screen duo. Like the A Quiet Place star, Jordan can also bring a significant level of physicality to the proceedings. After all, Jordan did have to do quite a bit of training for Without Remorse, and he even learned to hold his breath under water for nearly three minutes.

While I’d be down to see Jack to team up with John, I still wouldn’t turn my nose up if Jack Reacher were to be involved. Alan Ritchson remains a star in his own right, and I could easily see him and Krasinski standing alongside each other. I honestly still think that could happen at some point, and Krasinski seems to like the notion of more crossovers as well:

A crossover may not be announced right now, but Prime Video subscription holders still have plenty to look forward to when it comes to Tom Clancy-related content. Ghost War aside, there’s also the upcoming fourth season of Reacher, which has also been renewed for Season 5. Aldis Hodge’s Cross is also returning for a third season and, on that note, it’d be great to see Alex Cross join forces with another character as well. In the meantime, though, I just hope the producers will keep a seat warm for Michael B. Jordan.

For right now, though, look forward to streaming Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War on Prime Video, as it hits the streamer on May 20. Prepare yourself for John Krasinski's reprisal by streaming all four seasons of the show now. Also, stream Without Remorse while you're at it.

After actors win big at the awards shows, they tend to become pretty highly sought after, so it’s fun to watch what projects they choose to do next. Michael B. Jordan has a new movie out — his first since winning Best Actor at the Academy Awards — and it’s currently No. 1 on Netflix. However, critics are being much more, well, critical of Swapped than Netflix subscription holders, so let’s dig into what they’re all saying.

Swapped, an animated adventure comedy starring Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple, hit the 2026 Netflix schedule on May 1. The Oscar winner plays Ollie, a sea otter-like creature called a pookoo, who swaps bodies with Temple’s Ivy, who is a bird called a javan. Hilarity ensues ... at least according to audiences, who collectively rated the movie at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics’ score, meanwhile, was at 71% as of this writing and had dropped into the 60th percentile at one point.

What Critics Are Saying About Michael B. Jordan’s Swapped

For David Ehrlich of IndieWire, a lot of the issue seems to lie within a script that’s powered by generic banter. The movie lacks ambition, and the story feels pilfered from other pre-existing movies. He gives it a C, writing:

John Serba of Decider says it’s a “prime example of children’s films that underestimate their audiences’ intelligence.” Unfortunately one symptom of that is the poop joke. Serba says:

Benjamin Lee of The Guardian says it might just be a case of bad timing — noting that Swapped was in development before Hoppers — but the popular Pixar flick seems like “a stone-cold classic in comparison” to this Skydance Animation offering. He gives it 2 out of 5 stars and says:

The critics make some good points, so that begs the question …

What Did Audiences Like About Swapped?

As noted by the critics, yes, the plot of Swapped is inevitably drawing comparisons to Hoppers, another 2026 movie release. However, viewers think there’s room enough for both, with Rotten Tomatoes comments including:

• "Swapped" is such a sweet, feel-good family movie. It’s fun and engaging, but also carries a beautiful message about empathy—learning to see life through someone else’s eyes and understanding their feelings. It’s simple, heartfelt, and leaves you with a warm reminder of what really matters. – Maryam N.
• The structure of the movie was perfect. The background information of each character was displayed at perfect timing to understand how they got where they are. – Trey G.
• Bro this MOVIEEEEE! Insane plot twist, insane climax, made me cry. The conflicts were so good. The chemistry and banter was good. ATEEEEE – Waniya S.

Oh yes, that plot twist. Apparently, it’s a biggie, because a lot of the audience reactions were primarily centered around it. See below:

• That plot twist?? I did NOT see that coming. I felt so betrayed, my jaw literally dropped. It’s not just entertaining. It actually makes you feel something. A must watch! – Aegi T.

People praised the story and the gorgeous animation, and more than one said they had tears streaming down their faces. In the end, Braydan S. possibly said it best:

This is certainly an interesting project for Michael B. Jordan to follow his Oscar win with, but to be fair, both Swapped and Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair — a 2027 release on which MBJ serves as director, producer and star — were both in the works long before this year’s Oscars, so it remains to be seen where the actor takes his talents next.

In the meantime, you’ll have to decide for yourselves if you want to side with the moodier critics or believe the Rotten Tomatoes audience who made Swapped the No. 1 movie on Netflix.

It’s wild that it’s been over a month since Michael B. Jordan won his Oscar and found himself on the list of 2026 Academy Award winners with lots of his Sinners colleagues. So, now, the next natural question about his award is: Where does he keep it? Well, the answer isn’t what I expected; however, I do understand his reasoning.

Now, over the years, we’ve learned about plenty of wild places where actors keep their Oscars. For example, J.K. Simmons originally kept his Academy Award on a minifridge in his bathroom. However, it’s not often I hear about them putting their gold statue somewhere it can't be seen. However, that seems to be what Michael B. Jordan is doing as he told E! News:

After Jordan admitted that his Oscar is not on display in his house, the interviewer asked if he could put it on the shelf. I mean, I would have asked him that too; his achievement deserves to be seen. However, the actor was very humble about it, and he admitted that he’s really not sure where the best place to put it is, explaining:

I get it, I do. I also love that he's been auditioning homes for his Oscar. However, I do have to say that I don't think the closet should be its permanent place.

Well, I guess it’s safe to assume that those who are going over to Jordan’s house are not seeing his Oscar on display. However, you can see it by watching his lovely acceptance speech:

Now, Michael B. Jordan did agree with the interviewer when she asked if it was a “traveling Oscar,” because it has been bouncing around his home. However, for now, it’s going to stay in the closet. His mentality behind why makes a whole lot of sense, though, as he said:

That “next thing right now” is a project on Netflix’s 2026 schedule called Swapped. It’s an animated movie that follows a small woodland creature named Oli, who is voiced by Jordan. However, as the title implies, a swap happens, and Oli ends up switching bodies with a bird, who is voiced by Juno Temple. It looks utterly delightful, and it will be available to stream with a Netflix subscription on May 1.

Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan will be staying very busy in the years to come, too. That’s because his remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, which he’s directing and starring in, is set to come out on March 7, 2027. Plus, he’s working on a Miami Vice movie with Austin Bustler and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, which is slated to come out on May 19, 2028. So, I get why his eyes aren’t really on his prize right now; he’s got a lot of work to do.

However, I do think he should put his Academy Award on display where everyone can see it. His Oscar deserves that, and so does he!

Fresh off his 2026 Oscar win, Michael B. Jordan is back in action. This time, it’s for The Thomas Crown Affair, and he showed off the first footage for it at CinemaCon. Now, people are reacting to that first glance at this highly anticipated romantic crime thriller, and their thoughts on what’s to come have me very, very excited for this remake of one of the best heist movies.

This remake of The Thomas Crown Affair marks the second feature Jordan has directed, following 2023’s Creed III. He’s also set to star in the film alongside Adria Arjona. In the first trailer, it’s been reported that you can see Jordan in action as a thief, much like Pierce Brosnan and Steve McQueen were in 1999 and 1968, respectively, stealing a Van Gogh sunflower painting. It sounds like we’re going to see a sweeping, fun and hot crime caper when this film hits theaters, and that became clear after reading Wesley Stenzel’s recap for EW of the footage:

The setting of this film also seems to add to its irresistible ambiance. Another thing that adds to its sleek and sultry vibe seems to be the chemistry between Michael B. Jordan’s billionaire thief and Adria Arjona’s insurance investigator. According to The Playlist’s Gregory Ellwood, all this comes together to give this film a “requisite scope”:

Now, while details about the story of Jordan’s take on The Thomas Crown Affair are being kept under wraps for the most part, Deadline’s Jill Goldsmith did note how the actor’s chemistry with Arjona was very present in the trailer. Here’s what the outlet reported:

During the presentation, the Sinners star explained that his character “needed somebody who could keep him on his toes.” He also needed someone who could play this game of cat and mouse, but also fall in love with him. Well, Adria Arjona seems to be the perfect fit for the role, and I can’t wait to hear her say, “Tell me something: does this billionaire thing really work?”

Along with Jordan and Arjona, Kenneth Branagh is also in the cast. He’ll be playing the villain, and it sounds like the Creed star’s character might be out for revenge against him. Writing about this role as well as the high-stakes action and emotion that this trailer seemed to have, Chris Bumbray’s breakdown for JoBlo stated:

Well, this sounds like one great time at the theater, and you better believe I’ll be there to see the film from Jordan and Amazon/MGM.

It’s also worth noting that JoBlo’s report explained that Jordan’s take on all this seems “pretty faithful to the concept of the original movies.” During the presentation, the actor did make his admiration of the first two iterations of this story known, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he pays homage to them.

Now, with all that being said, I cannot wait to see The Thomas Crown Affair. However, we’ll have to wait a bit for it. The film is not part of the 2026 movie schedule, but it will be in theaters on March 5, 2027. In the meantime, you can stream both the 1968 and 1999 versions of this story on Tubi, The Roku Channel or Pluto TV.

When somebody reaches movie star status like Michael B. Jordan has, it’s often hard to think about their humble beginnings. But, like all great actors, Jordan came a long way before he got to be in a star-studded affair like Sinners.

In fact, he actually made that journey on a much smaller screen. That’s right. Because even though some major stars get their big breaks in horror movies (such as Jamie Lee Curtis in the Halloween films) other actors, such as Jordan, got their breakout roles on television.

So, here are just a few of the small-screen projects that Michael B. Jordan had a part in before he became the movie star that he is today.

His First Major Role Was The Saddest Story In The First Season Of The Wire

Is The Wire the greatest show that’s ever been on television? Possibly (I think it’s either between that or Breaking Bad). I think it’s mainly because the city of Baltimore was the main protagonist, and all of the characters within it shared their story with the city. It’s why each season was special in its own way (I especially love Season 2).

Well, aside from Season 4, which covers Baltimore’s school system and is often deemed as the best season, a close second best is Season 1, which is where we were introduced to the teenager, Wallace, who has one of the saddest character arcs in the entire series. Michael B. Jordan plays the character, and the most tragic thing about his performance is that there are 16-year-old kids just like him who also have similar fates.

He Had A Home On All My Children For Awhile

You know, the world has a funny way of being both big and small. How else can you explain Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, who would later appear together as enemies in Black Panther, having their stars align much earlier, and on a soap opera no less?

That’s right, both Boseman and Jordan were on All My Children. Even crazier: they played the exact same character, Reggie Porter Montgomery. Boseman played the character for about a week before being fired, and then the role was quickly filled in by Jordan, who played the character from 2003-2006.

So again, life can be funny sometimes, right? From being a replacement to being in one of Chadwick Boseman’s best movies. Crazy stuff.

And Then Friday Night Lights Was His Last Major Role Before The Movies Came A-Calling

Even though Jordan hopped about in other shows after All My Children, like CSI, Without a Trace, Cold Case, and a Canadian sitcom called The Assistants, his last major show before he became a bona fide movie star was Friday Night Lights.

On the show, he played quarterback Vince Howard, who appeared in the last two seasons. Vince was a complex kid who only really got into football since he didn’t want to go to juvie, and he had natural talent. It kind of went to his head, which presents an interesting dynamic in the final season.

After Friday Night Lights, Jordan went on to bigger things (like winning a Best Actor trophy at the 98th Academy Awards for Sinners). Before he became a star, he started off small, just as most great things in life do.

Sinners was one of the biggest movies of last year that was able to win big at the box office and at the recent Academy Awards. It was a rare non-franchise success story, but it did have one thing in common with some of those bigger movies: it had its own code name.

It’s not uncommon for major film productions to be filmed under code names, either because full titles haven’t yet been decided on or in an attempt to reduce the number of prying eyes trying to dig for spoilers. Ryan Coogler was used to having code names for movies, having worked on two Black Panther movies for Marvel. He came up with his own code name for Sinners. He called it "Grilled Cheese". Oscar-winning director of photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw recently told CBS Mornings the name wasn't random and had a very specific meaning. She said…

As somebody who has made more than his share of grilled cheese sandwiches specifically because I wanted something that I could make quickly, but would be tasty when it was done, I can fully support this code name.

While Sinners certainly doesn’t look or feel “down and dirty” compared to a major blockbuster production like a Black Panther movie, it probably felt that way from a production standpoint. It’s understandable that Ryan Coogler might want to go back and try to make something closer to his breakout hit Fruitvale Station in between his major tentpole releases.

Unfortunately, while the code name may have tried to make the shoot feel like it was some sort of indie production, it absolutely was not that. Arkapaw admits that the movie ended up becoming much bigger than originally planned. Apparently, a somewhat different food-related code name would have been more appropriate. She continued…

While I love a tasty grilled cheese, I won’t turn down a fine dining experience either. Sinners may have ballooned into something bigger than it was planned to be, but perhaps that’s part of what made it the incredible hit that it was. It made millions at the box office, took home multiple major Oscars, including for star Michael B. Jordan and writer Ryan Coogler, and may have changed the way filmmakers work with studios for decades to come.

It’s unclear which of Ryan Coogler’s upcoming projects will be his next directorial effort, but I’ll be on the lookout for its codename. It may not tell us much about what the movie will be, but it will potentially give us insight into what Ryan Coogler thinks it is.

Thanks to Michael B. Jordan’s “nuanced” dual performance in Sinners, the actor became a 2026 Oscar winner. Ever since his film breakthrough in Fruitvale Station, it seemed clear that Jordan’s performances would eventually lead him to that iconic golden trophy. Now, since the Creed actor’s recent big win, a viral dance video has been released of kids celebrating his big win, and it’s giving me all of the energy I need.

While Gold Derby initially had Marty Supreme’s Timothée Chalamet as the frontrunner for Best Actor, the script got flipped in Jordan's favor after he won Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role at the Actor Awards. Then, on The Academy's big night, the Sinners star wound up being the big winner. The kiddie Ugandan troupe, Hypers Kids Africa, was so happy for the win that they celebrated with a viral dance video that’s got me all in my energetic feels:

I can’t stop watching this video! The smiles on all of the kids’ faces as they danced with a photo of Michael B. Jordan holding his Oscar in the background made my day. I’m seeing a little shimmy-shimmy going on there with some Michael Jackson moves. The coordination of all of these kids and how in sync they are with the choreography is very impressive. Anyone watching the young AGT quarterfinalists bust a move to “Celebration” will want to dance along too to commemorate the Black Panther actor’s massive win.

You can’t help but jump for joy at Michael B. Jordan’s win. Even Pedro Pascal had no problems celebrating the nominee’s win at the ceremony (even if it meant getting in the way of Delroy Lindo's wife from doing the same).

Overall, The Wire actor’s work in Sinners is worth awarding not only because he played two people, but also because he gave a grounded performance despite all of the wild supernatural elements happening around his characters, Stack and Smoke.

You can thank Jordan's frequent director, Ryan Coogler, for how he “challenged” him playing twins, and you can thank the actor for standing up and committing to the challenge put before him. I mean, Jordan made sure to differentiate Stack and Smoke by showing dimples in one and not the other, the way their eyebrows arched, and even wearing different shoe sizes! Talk about a detailed performance.

Instead of making the twin brothers almost like clones of each other, Jordan chose to portray them as two different people, which makes it easier for the audience to tell them apart. With all of that in mind, the Best Actor Oscar is clearly in the rightful place, and we’ve got to get up and dance for the winner as Hypers Kids Africa did.

Talk about an energy boost, seeing a Ugandan dance troupe celebrating Michael B. Jordan’s Oscar win. It’s seriously the best way to show how happy you are when your favorite actor gets his long-deserved win. You can watch Jordan’s Oscar-worthy performance in Sinners with an HBO Max subscription.

Many are still buzzing about the 98th Academy Awards and its biggest developments. Much has been said about the 2026 Oscar winners, and that’s especially been true of Michael B. Jordan, who won Best Actor for his work in Sinners. That major win came after weeks of analysts showing that Jordan was frontrunner alongside Timothée Chalamet, whose odds apparently decreased amid his ballet/opera brouhaha. Like so many, I’m so happy for Jordan but, at the same time, this Chalamet backlash gives me pause.

Weeks ago, during a town hall with Matthew McConaughey, Chalamet was asked for his thoughts on the viability of movie theaters. Chalamet admitted to having mixed feelings, as he said he both “admired” those championing cinemas but also understood that audiences were finding new ways to consume media. From there, he said, “I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore’ — all respect to the ballet and opera people out there.”

Those comments ruffled quite a few feathers, as backlash came from the ballet and opera communities as well as several actors and even The View. At the same time, some pundits speculated that the comments could hurt Chalamet’s chances of winning Best Actor for his work in Marty Supreme. It can’t be said with complete certainty whether that was indeed the case but, regardless, various people now seem to have varied takes on what steps the A-lister should take next. On X, critic Scott Menzel shared a suggestion:

While I understand the public’s interest in Chalamet’s situation, it’s hard for me not to wonder if this has become overblown. There may have been those who didn’t like his comments, they weren’t so inflammatory or derogatory that they could impact the overall trajectory of his career. Also, there are also those who agree with Chalamet’s sentiment that movie theaters attendance could become more niche like going to the opera or ballet. Still, the debate continues, and comments from both sides of the argument can be seen below:

As for whether Chalamet actually should (or will) take a step back, that’s clearly up for debate – and that debate is becoming somewhat exhausting. Still, it doesn’t look like Menzel’s scenario is going to come to pass, as marketing for the actor’s next movie is already in motion. Warner Bros. debuted the first trailer for Dune: Part Three this week, and it’s since been well received. (It’s also worth noting, however, that Chalamet did not attend the press event at which the trailer initially debuted.)

Meanwhile, when it comes to Michael B. Jordan, I’d argue that his win should not be overshadowed by the Timothée Chalamet conversations either. As someone who loved his award-winning turn in Sinners, I’d argue that he fully deserved that honor. His win in the category also marks a major boon for the horror genre.

Simultaneously, I also enjoyed Chalamet’s turn in Marty Supreme. So, while others continue to have their debates, I just remain grateful that both Jordan and Chalamet put out great performances in the past year and look forward to seeing what both of them do next.

If you look a bit closer, you can see that while Pascal was enthusiastically congratulating Jordan, Lindo’s wife was actually vigorously tapping him to move his hand so she could stand up like some of the other people in the audience. Delroy Lindo immediately got up to congratulate his co-star, along with writer/director Ryan Coogler coming up to him to give him a huge hug. Emma Stone and her husband, who were seated next to Jordan’s mom, also got up, but Nashormeh Lindo was sort of stuck in her seat.

The 98th Academy Awards have officially come and gone from the 2026 TV Schedule, and Conan O’Brien absolutely crushed it with some genuinely great sketches throughout the night. Like most Oscar ceremonies, this one delivered big speeches, surprise wins and plenty of awkward moments. But, after Sinners and One Battle After Another spent the evening trading major wins and dominating the conversation, a candid interaction between Michael B. Jordan, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Benicio del Toro felt more memorable than much of what happened onstage.

The clip, shared by Us Weekly on Instagram, shows Jordan, DiCaprio, and del Toro embracing and congratulating each other after the ceremony. It’s a brief moment, but it says a lot. Jordan appears to be receiving congratulations following his big win, DiCaprio pulls him in for a full hug, and del Toro seems to kiss Jordan’s hand in a gesture that fans immediately interpreted as respect, affection or both.

Part of why the clip is so emotional is that Jordan had just won his first Oscar, taking Best Actor for his dual performance in Sinners. At the same time, One Battle After Another emerged as the night’s biggest overall winner, joining the ranks of Best Picture winners and finishing with six Oscars. In other words, these films really had spent the night duking it out.

That reaction makes even more sense when you consider what the night represented for everyone involved. Jordan’s Oscar win for Sinners was one of the most emotional highlights of the ceremony, while One Battle After Another still ended the night with the Academy’s biggest prize. So, even though the awards race had been fiercely competitive, all three actors had something meaningful to celebrate by the time the ceremony wrapped.

That’s probably why this backstage exchange lands so well. It feels like a reminder that after months of campaigning and one very intense night, there can still be plenty of room for generosity, admiration, and genuine respect between artists. Honestly, that may have been one of the best post-Oscars moments of the entire evening.

The Academy Awards changed things up this year in how they handled the Best Original Song nominees. Rather than feature live performances of all five songs, only “Golden” from Kpop Demon Hunters and “I Lied to You” from Sinners were given such treatment as the 2026 Oscar winners were announced. That meant expectations were high for those two numbers, and the Sinners segment definitely delivered with a performance that got the crowd moving and featured some surprising cameos and, yes, even some vampire fangs.

Regardless of how the Oscars play out awards-wise, the Sinners cast and crew came into the March 15 awards ceremony as winners with their record-breaking 16 nominations — not to mention the red carpet fashion statements by Wunmi Mosaku and her co-stars. Go ahead and add this live performance of “I Lied to You” to the list of the night's memorable moments.

Raphael Saadiq kicked off the segment with some soulful blues guitar before Sinners star Miles Caton joined in. Dancers took over the stage and the aisles within Dolby Theatre to recreate one of Sinners’ best scenes in one of 2025’s best movies. Just like in the film, several different dance styles and cultures were highlighted by the cameras panning across the stage.

Among the dancers was iconic ballerina Misty Copeland, who did her thing with Timothée Chalamet sitting in the front row, not an hour after the Marty Supreme star was roasted in Conan O’Brien’s opening monologue for his recent controversial statement about ballet and opera.

Jack O’Connell, one of the Irish vamps from the film, appeared in character — fangs and all. Brittany Howard joined Raphael Saadiq and Miles Caton on stage and killed it on guitar, as other musicians including Buddy Guy (who played the older Sammie in the movie to Caton’s younger version), Shaboozey, Eric Gales, Alice Smith, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li and Bobby Rush all came together to finish the number.

It was a powerful moment, undoubtedly felt by the crowd of celebrities, all of whom were on their feet cheering. Michael B. Jordan gave an approving nod from his seat, as the dancers continued the on-stage party into the commercial break.

If we only get two live song performances at the Academy Awards, I’m certainly glad this was one of them. Hell, if we’d only gotten one, I’d be satisfied with what just happened. As disappointing as it is for the other nominees — "Dear Me," Diane Warren: Relentless, "Sweet Dream of Joy," Viva Verdi! and "Train Dreams," Train Dreams — I kind of understand why the decision was made.

In a ceremony that already runs over three hours, dedicating a combined 25 minutes to one category is a pretty big ask, though it seems really unfair to include only two of the five. We’ll have to see how this is handled in future years, but for now, I’m just grateful we got to witness this celebration this year.

The 98th Academy Awards are upon us, and there's plenty of talent amid the 2026 Oscar nominees. Amy Madigan is neck and neck with Teyona Taylor, Best Supporting Actor is still a foot race between Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, and Best Picture is far from a done deal. But the race that has me fixated is Best Actor. Reports have Michael B. Jordan and Timothée Chalamet as frontrunners, in a race that has changed drastically over the course of awards season. While both did tremendous work, there are a few reasons why I love Jordan's performance more.

Michael B. Jordan Expertly Plays Twins In Sinners

In the critically acclaimed film, Sinners, Michael B. Jordan takes on an almost impossible task, playing two characters and making them feel distinct with unique personalities. Jordan plays twins Smoke and Stack, portraying both characters completely differently. Smoke is more serious and focused on establishing a juke joint after the twins return to their hometown. On the other hand, Stack is much more of a wildcard, who gets them into dangerous, unpredictable situations. Even though Jordan plays both, they are easily distinguishable and skillfully portrayed.

The characters' different love interests also lend credence to the different ways Jordan plays the roles. Supporting performances by Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku show different kinds of love that both Smoke and Stack are experiencing, helping to further establish the twins as unique characters. It also allows Jordan to shine as an actor and presents him with the opportunity to play with opposing dynamics. In short, he's a natural in both roles and further showcases his range as an actor.

Even In A Genre Film, Michael B. Jordan's Performance Stays Grounded

Often in genre films, actors are allowed to give loud, boisterous performances to fit the tone of the often wild film they're in. Amanda Seyfried’s outrageously entertaining performance in The Housemaid comes to mind as well as Amy Madigan's stellar work in Weapons.

Genre gives license to play, which is a lot of fun for actors. Michael B. Jordan does play in Sinners (which is among the Best Picture nominees), especially with some of the external quirks of the Stack character. However, in a lot of ways Jordan is playing the characters completely straight. He is grounded, focusing on his emotional relationships with his two on-screen partners, and the newfound almost paternal relationship to the character of Sammie, the twins' cousin.

This grounded performance allows the chaos and the horror movie elements to happen around Jordan. Although this is essentially a vampire horror movie, Jordan doesn’t allow his performance to become a farce. He's playing things completely straight, fighting the urge to be as absurdist as the plot can be at some point. With this, he shines as an actor, and his approach allows for some of the deeper aspects of the movie, like its connection to Black history in America, to be even more prominent. Jordan is, in many ways, the connective tissue of the film.

Timothée Chalamet Still Deserves Props For Marty Supreme

For the reasons above, I think Michael B. Jordan is more than deserving of the Oscar. The tide seems to be going this way as well, with his Actor Award win showing that he might be an Academy Award winner after tonight. However, I think we would be fools to write off Timothée Chalamet. For most of this Oscar campaign, he has been the true frontrunner before Jordan became a prominent voice after the Actor Awards.

Chalamet's performance in Marty Supreme is extraordinary, keeping up with the pace of the film in a neurotic way. Controversially, I liked the self-seriousness of the performance, as it displays the range of an actor who is determined to showcase how the flame of success can be destructive to a person’s soul.

There's also a strong level of physicality that comes into play not only with the table tennis scenes but in others as well. In that regard Chalamet more than rises to the occasion.

However for Chalamet, the tide has turned negative for him in recent months. His much-discussed comments about ballet and opera left a poor taste in the mouths of some industry professionals and fans. Some have also questioned his almost “method” approach to promoting Marty Supreme. This helped sell the movie, as Marty did strong numbers at the box office, but there's the chance it could hurt his chances with the voting body.

I’d personally say this further speaks to Timothée Chalamet's prowess as a performer. Still, between him and Michael B. Jordan, I'd really like to see the latter win Best Actor.

Jordan is far from the first person to act in a movie that he’s directing, and many have spoken about the difficulties that come with trying to do both jobs at the same time. Doing that with people who knew him well with Creed was likely significantly easier than it was with a cast of actors and a crew that he didn’t know as well.

Expectations are certainly high for the third version of The Thomas Crown Affair on screen, and much like the experience of filming was different for Michael B. Jordan, it will be a whole new experience for audiences to see his work as a director for a second time. We’re just about a year away from it all as the new film is set to be released on March 5, 2027.

In our staff poll, the Best Adapted Screenplay choice is perhaps the most divisive. All five nominees were favored by at least one writer, and it was quite close between Hamnet, Frankenstein, and One Battle After Another. This highlights just how tricky this task can be, because it’s easy to make a case for any of the five. Ultimately, in a very tight poll, Paul Thomas Anderson came out on top for One Battle After Another.

Sinners set the record this year for the most Oscar nominations for a film ever, with 16, including this nomination for writer Ryan Coogler. The momentum for Sinners has only been growing as this very long awards season has gone on (thanks, Olympics). While the staff pick wasn’t as close as it was for Adapted, there was quite a bit of support for Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value, but in the end, Sinners came out on top. This isn’t quite a slam dunk, but it’s the most definitive of the five awards that weren’t easy picks for us.

This race has been truly all over the place. Del Toro started the season strong with a string of critics' awards, Elordi won at the Critics' Choice, Skarsgård won the Golden Globe, and Penn has come on strong late with wins at BAFTA and the Actor Awards (formerly The SAG Awards). Four of the five nominees were picked by at least two writers each, and though Lindo hasn’t really been in the conversation until very late, on the strength of Sinners and his amazing performance, he is a real contender now. In fact, he is now the frontrunner, in our opinion.

Like Best Supporting Actor, the race for Best Supporting Actress has been a wild ride, but it seems to have come down to three: Madigan, Mosaku, and Taylor. Each of the three has taken home awards this season, and while our choice ultimately had quite a bit of support, it’s impossible to rule out one of the other two women winning. Two months ago, it seemed like Taylor was going to sweep the season, but Madigan and Mosaku clearly have a lot of momentum as we get to the end here. We still think Taylor is the favorite for One Battle After Another, but just barely. Madigan and Mosaku are considered the favorites by quite a few folks around here.

Best Actor

Now this is a fascinating race, and CinemaBlend’s poll reflects that. We asked the staff to name both who they would vote for and who they think will win. While the majority of staff have predicted Chalamet to win, a huge majority picked Michael B. Jordan as who they would have voted for, personally. It’s safe to say the race is between these two, and, in full disclosure, much of our polling took place before Jordan won at the Actor Awards. There seems to be a late surge happening in favor of the Sinners star. It would not surprise anyone if he takes home the Oscar, but we predict that Chalamet will win in what could be a historic victory.

Here’s where we’re getting to the Oscars that everyone on staff is most confident about in our predictions. In fact, in the Best Actress race, there haven’t been any surprises at all leading up to the Oscars. Jessie Buckley has completely swept the awards leading up to this Sunday, and there is no reason at all to think that will change at the Academy Awards. Buckley’s performance in Hamnet is incredible, and it’s hard to imagine anyone sneaking in and winning this over her. Stone and Byrne did receive some support from the CinemaBlend staff, but an overwhelming majority picked Buckley to win Best Actress.

Best Director

Like Best Actor, the race for Best Director comes down to two men, Ryan Coogler and Paul Thomas Anderson. All season long, the general consensus is that this is PTA’s time and he’s going to walk away with the win. Our prediction is no different, as a huge majority of our staff believe that this is Anderson’s award to lose. Could he, though? Well, interestingly, yeah, he could. As with Michael B. Jordan, when we ask the staff for their favorite, most picked Coogler as their personal choice, even if almost everyone still predicted PTA to win.

It has gotten trickier and trickier to predict Best Picture over the years. Sure, there are times like two years ago when everyone pretty much knew that Oppenheimer was going to take home the biggest prize of the night. But then there are ones like last year when Anora came on very strong at the end of awards season, but was a little bit of a dark horse on Oscar night. This year could be either.

The strong consensus of the CinemaBlend staff is that One Battle After Another will win Best Picture, but as in a couple of categories, a majority of the staff picked Sinners as their personal favorite. This isn’t surprising, after all, Sinners was our choice for the best movie of 2025. The late momentum for Sinners has turned this award into a real nail-biter, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see Ryan Coogler on stage accepting the award at the end of the night. However, as a group, we have to stick with our prediction, given that all but three staff members picked One Battle to win (interestingly, the other votes all went to Hamnet).

The Actor Award was indeed a massive win for Jordan, especially considering that those votes come from SAG-AFTRA members (a number of which are also members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). Additionally, Jordan – alongside his castmates – also won the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Chalamet – who won Outstanding Male Actor last year for A Complete Unknown – was arguably viewed as a frontrunner amid this year’s awards season for his turn in the acclaimed Marty Supreme. Chalamet’s apparently lessened Oscar odds come at an interesting time, as he's currently getting flak for comments made about ballet and the opera. During an interview, Chalamet shared his feelings on the decline in movie theaters and expressed his concern that they could become niche and something that no one “cares about” like opera or ballet. Organizations that have propped up those art forms have since chastised Chalamet, yet it can’t be said with certainty that this situation will acually play into his Oscar chances.

Regardless, even before his latest award win, Michael B. Jordan had been receiving his share of props for his Sinners work. Jordan seemed to put a lot of thought and effort into his approach to playing Smoke and Stack. He previously explained that one strategy he used to differentiate his performances as the characters was to wear different sized shoes, which impacted his mindset and body language while portraying the siblings.

One thing that’s true for both Jordan and Chalamet is that if either of them were to win, it would mark their first Oscars. Awards analysts can be sharp when it comes to evaluating odds but, ultimately, nothing is set in stone.

Shortly after the ceremony, Yahoo Entertainment’s TikTok account shared a backstage clip of Jordan reflecting on the win. Standing beside his Sinners co-star Wunmi Mosaku, he spoke candidly about why having Davis hand him the trophy meant so much on a personal level:

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine, one that's constantly releasing new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. It's safe to say that the most highly anticipated upcoming Marvel movie is Avengers: Doomsday, especially as the marketing campaign has begun. Im hyped to see what The Russo Brothers are bringing to the blockbuster, but Michael B. Jordan's comments about Chadwick Boseman have me in my feelings about his absence.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is limited, but Chadwick Boseman's 2020 death obviously means T'Challa won't be included. His absence has been felt in projects like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and he'll be noticeably missing from the next two Avengers movies. During an appearance at SBIFF 2026, Jordan gushed about his relationship with the late actor, saying:

Clearly Jordan has (and continues to) have a ton of respect and love for Chadwick Boseman. He really helped to lead the Black Panther cast, encouraging his co-stars to step up their game and bring the world of Wakanda to life. That includes working hard and even staying in character while on set. Those efforts paid off, as Black Panther was a huge success when arriving in theaters.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order know how instantly Black Panther became a fan favorite franchise. Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan's chemistry was part of the reason why Ryan Coogler's movie worked so well, as the Oscar-nominated Sinners star put it:

Michael B. Jordan is a fashionable man who has been in some amazing and high-profile movies. So, yes, when he walks on a carpet, people want photos of him. So, I get why he said he was “used to” being yelled at by photographers.

Now, going back to the video, right after he noted how thrown he was by the quiet camerapeople, the photographers got louder, yelling his name and directions for him to look in. Playing into it all, the Oscar nominee said:

Well, this was all quite delightful! First of all, I love that the photographers weren’t yelling at Jordan to look at them, and I find it funny that he joked with them about it.

Plus, I love that it goes totally against the stories we tend to hear about photographers and celebrities.

I’m used to stories about obscene comments paparazzi made at people like Keira Knightley or reports about how someone like Justin Bieber confronted photographers on the street. Also, I don’t think I’ll ever forget Chappell Roan calling out loud photographers on the carpet.

Overall, there’s a long and storied history of photographers yelling at celebs and them occasionally clapping back. So, to see Michael B. Jordan stunned over how quiet the people with cameras were was hilariously shocking. It also left me hoping that maybe the tides are turning, and the relationship between paparazzi and celebrities will become a little calmer and more respectful.

I guess we’ll see if that’s true in Jordan’s case when the Oscars air on the 2026 TV schedule on March 15. His movie, Sinners, has a historic number of nominations, including one for his performance. So, I’m sure he’ll be posing for photos on the carpet with Ryan Coogler and co, and I hope the people taking his pictures are as nice as the folks at the luncheon were.

This time, the actor and producer provided a small update about casting. However, it was his response when asked if he’d ever play a role in the book-to-screen adaptation of Rebecca Yarros series that really got me thinking about characters he could portray.

What Michael B. Jordan Said About Potentially Playing A Character In Fourth Wing

Now, while we wait for announcements regarding the release of Fourth Wing, fans have been going wild with their fancasting ideas for Xaden, and they have a clear pick for other characters, like Liam. However, when it comes to the actual casting process, Jordan told the BBC the following about the actors that will be chosen for this project:

This comment goes right along with the producer’s previous comment about Fourth Wing, where he explained that they are working to make sure this show “delivers on all of the things the fans want.” I certainly love to hear all this; however, now I’m realizing that this list of wants also includes Michael B. Jordan acting in the show, because when he was asked if he might play a part on screen, he simply said:

The fact that he didn’t say no kind of surprises me; it also excites me to no end. And of course, it got me thinking about who Jordan could play, and the not-so-obvious choices that might fit for him.

My Ideas For Which Fourth Wing Character Michael B. Jordan Could Play

Now, obviously, I don’t think Jordan is going to play one of the main characters. They’re all in their early-to-mid twenties, and he’s 39. Plus, the commitment of playing one of them would likely be a lot for him, considering I imagine he’ll be starring in movies left and right while he produces Fourth Wing. However, considering his answer wasn’t a no, I could see him stepping in as a secondary (but vital) character. So, here are a few ideas I have:

Professor Carr – Honestly, I do feel like Jordan could be fit to play any of the professors at Basgiath. He might be a little young. However, I do think he has the right aura to pull off a commanding teacher regardless of age. The one I have in mind is Professor Carr, who teaches wielding. If Jordan were put in this role, we’d get to see him play a character who teaches Violet how to harness her power while also challenging her in ways that aren’t the most healthy. He’s a complex character, and the idea of seeing the Creed actor mentor the protagonist is very enticing.

Varrish – Remember how chilling Michael B. Jordan was as Killmonger in Black Panther? I certainly do, and I’d love to see him play another bad guy. To me, one of the baddest in the Fourth Wing books is Varrish. He appears in Iron Flame as a new instructor at Basgiath, and on top of being a thorn in Violet and Xanden’s side, he’s downright evil. Personally, I’d love to see Jordan bring depth and nuance to this role that is vital to the second book, and will likely be important in the show, too.

Wild Card Pick: Brennan – Now, I know, I know, this one is crazy. First of all, I do think Jordan is a bit too old for this part. Secondly, Brennan is a huge character across the books, and I don’t know if the Sinners star would be able to commit to that kind of role while he’s also presumably working on other projects. However, there’s something about Jrodan’s energy that makes me think he’d be fantastic as the level-headed healer and older brother of our primary protagonist.

So, those are my ideas for who Michael B. Jordan could play in Fourth Wing. Now, will any of this happen? Well, to quote the producer himself, “I don’t know.” However, at this point, I believe anything is possible, and maybe we’ll get to see him flying onto our screens when this highly anticipated series finally premieres.

As Michael B. Jordan celebrates his and Sinners' 2026 Oscar nominations, the actor also gave Fourth Wing fans a reason to celebrate. I realize those feel like two random topics that shouldn’t really go together. However, as Jordan spoke about Sinners' historic Oscar nominations, he also got asked about the upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ fantasy series that his company is producing. And that’s what led to one exciting update about Fourth Wing that has made me very happy.

The wait for the Fourth Wing TV series is still ongoing, with updates coming only every once in a while. We still don’t know who will play Violet or Xaden (though fans have ideas), and people desperately want more information on the show based on a seriously popular series of books. So, Michael B. Jordan, whose company Outlier Society is producing the show, was asked about it during an interview for Deadline. In response, he said:

OK, this excites me (a massive fan of the books) a lot. While Jordan didn’t give any brand-new updates, his acknowledgement of the progress is thrilling. Much like Yarros’ small updates here and there, this comment from the Creed star reaffirms that they are working on the show, and more importantly, they’re not rushing it.

While I’d like to go to Basgiath as soon as possible, what’s more important is the quality of the show. That’s going to take time; therefore, I’m willing to wait for it.

Plus, considering how aware Michael B. Jordan is of the fanbase they’ll be serving with this program, I appreciate what he said here. There’s a lot of pressure on Fourth Wing because of how many fans there are of the books. So, yes, hearing the actor and producer talking about how “diligently” they’re taking the task at hand made me excited.

The other part of the Sinners star’s comment that made me happy was in regard to creating things that we “won’t be expecting.” There are plenty of Fourth Wing moments I want to see on screen. However, I also love it when an adaptation changes things with care and creates moments that can surprise diehard book fans.

Now, while we really don’t know much about this show, we do know that Meredith Averill -- who has worked on Wednesday, The Good Wife and Jane the Virgin -- will be the showrunner for Fourth Wing. So, that’s exciting.

Overall, I simply appreciate how aware Michael B. Jordan is of the fandom for Fourth Wing. This television series is highly anticipated, and for fans like me, it’s important that it’s handled with care. I want to see Rebecca Yarros’ world put on screen in a thoughtful, unique and faithful way, and it seems like that’s exactly what Jordan and his team are trying to do.

Obviously, Jordan brought it just as much as Lindo did, especially considering the actor plays two roles in Sinners, twins that go by Smoke and Stack. Ultimately, he was also nominated for his first Oscar this week in the Best Actor category.

While Jordan has been an Oscar frontrunner throughout awards season, Lindo’s nomination was a bit of a nice surprise after he was snubbed for other awards shows like the Golden Globes. Additionally, Sinners was nominated for an overall 16 awards at the 98th Academy Awards, breaking the record for the most nominated movie in the show’s history.

Along with Jordan and Lindo’s nominations, the movie is competing for Best Picture, Directing, Original Screenplay, Casting, Best Supporting Actress (for Wunmi Mosaku), Production Design, Film Editing, Sound, Visual Effects, Cinematography, Original Song, Original Score, Costume Design and Makeup and Hairstyling. Which proves that like the two actors in this story, the whole team behind Sinners brought their A-game.

The 98th Academy Awards will air live on ABC and Hulu on Sunday, March 15. Meanwhile, you can see Jordan and Lindo in Sinners by streaming the movie with an HBO Max subscription.

Tessa Thompson revealed in a recent interview that she and frequent collaborator and pal Michael B. Jordan didn’t just rehearse scenes while prepping for Creed III. Wildly, the two leads actually went to couples therapy together, fully in character as Bianca and Adonis.

Thompson shared the story during an appearance on Sherri, hosted by Sherri Shepherd, and posted as a clip to YouTube. The Passing star offered a surprisingly thoughtful look at what it means to work closely with someone for more than a decade. According to her, by the time they were making the most recent Creed film, she and Jordan felt less like co-stars and more like family. Or, as she put it:

According to the Westworld series veteran (streaming with an HBO Max subscription), the therapy sessions weren’t about creating or diffusing conflict. Instead, the actors hoped to understand conflict and what makes it rise in a long-term relationship. By the third entry in the Creed franchise, Bianca and Adonis weren’t a new couple. They’re older, more settled, dealing with careers, parenthood, and the quiet pressures that creep into long-term relationships. Going to therapy gave Thompson and Jordan a structured way to talk through those dynamics that felt grounded.

What made the experience even stranger, and more revealing, was how quickly it stopped being purely about the characters. Thompson admitted that while the sessions were technically “in character,” they inevitably began reflecting on their own lives as well. She continued:

Thompson revealed that the process reminded her that therapy doesn’t have to be a last resort or something reserved for relationships in crisis. Even when things are going well, having a space to sharpen communication and better understand how another person operates can be helpful. Not just romantically, but across friendships, family relationships, and creative partnerships.

The honest and vocal Thor: Ragnarok castmate also made a point of praising Jordan as a collaborator, describing him as a delight to work with and an incredibly kind presence, which helps explain why the experiment worked at all. Therapy, even in character, requires trust. And that trust doesn’t happen unless both people are willing to be open and listen.

More than anything, Tessa Thompson framed the experience as a reminder about communication. Having a structured space to talk through conflict, even under the guise of playing characters, proved invaluable. It allowed the two A-listers to address issues and dynamics that don’t always surface naturally in day-to-day life. Which, if you ask me, can only strengthen their performances and their working relationship.

As the 2026 Golden Globe winners were announced, there was a lot of chatter about Jennifer Lopez’s sheer look, Jennifer Lawrence’s floral gown and more marvelous fashion moments from the women in attendance at the ceremony. However, the men brought their A-game to the red carpet as well, and I think we should give some of them, including Glen Powell and Michael B. Jordan, their flowers.

Glen Powell Looked Classy In Navy Blue

Alright, let’s start with Glen Powell. He was at the Golden Globes to celebrate Chad Powers. Wearing an incredible navy blue velvet suit by Brunello Cucinelli, the actor and his stylist, Warren Alfie Baker, paired the suit with a matching bow tie and cumberbund. Take a look:

According to Baker’s Instagram, Powell is also wearing an Omega watch. However, it’s the sunglasses that make the look for me.

All around, this fit was perfect, and the blue was classy. I also loved the different textures featured in this suit that was all navy blue (which also happens to be one of the colors for the football team Powell’s character plays for in Chad Powers).

It was classic, while also being so much more than the typical men's suits we see. Plus, it celebrated Chad Powers (which you can stream with a Hulu subscription) in such a cool way.

Michael B. Jordan Rocked A Classic Suit With Chic Glasses

At first glance, Michael B. Jordan’s suit looked like a sleek classic double-breasted outfit. However, I love how unique it is with its deep brown color that was paired with a lovely shining brooch, an off-white shirt, and a black tie. Plus, like Powell, he rocked some killer sunglasses too, take a look:

To get into the details, the Sinners star’s suit was custom Prada, per GQ. According to the actor’s stylist, Jason Bolden, this look was inspired by the movie Jordan was nominated for and his characters, Smoke and Stack. Meanwhile, those cool sunglasses were actually found by Jordan at a family-owned boutique in Japan, and his jewelry was David Yurman.

So, overall, the actor and his stylist created a 5-star look that fits right in with the 5-star reviews Sinners got.

I’d Also Like To Shout Out Colman Domingo, The Heated Rivalry Boys, Snoop Dogg And Duke McCloud

Now, obviously, the two aforementioned stars were not the only guys dressed to the nines at the ceremony. So, let’s go over a few other highlights.

Colman Domingo: If you have been paying attention to red carpets for the last few years, you know Colman Domingo kills any carpet he steps onto. He is truly a fashion icon, and he proved that again with this custom black Valentino suit.

The Sing Sing star actually told Vanity Fair this was one of his more “laid-back” looks, which is true. However, that impeccably tailored suit and the stunning silver Boucheron jewels sprinkled up the right side of the blazer are undeniably gorgeous.

Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams: On the heels of Heated Rivalry’s Season 2 renewal and pop culture domination, its stars appeared on the red carpet of the Globes, ready to stun. According to Vogue, Hudson Williams, who plays Shane, wore a Giorgio Armani peak-lapel dinner jacket, a silk shirt, black pants and a beautiful gold Bulgari necklace. His co-lead, Connor Storrie, went for a classic black suit and tie by Saint Laurent, and the Ilya actor paired it with some rockstar sunglasses and a Tiffany and Co. brooch. They really dressed to impress as they continue to make a fantastic first impression on Hollywood.

Snoop Dogg: The pop of red in Snoop Dogg’s suit is perfect, and that mixed with the double-breasted cut and the otherwise all-black look is so sleek. Along with that, according to WWD, his shoes are by Stacy Adams and only cost about $100. Overall, it was a fun play on the classic black look, and it was perfect for the beloved rapper.

Duke McCloud: Last, but certainly not least, is Duke McCloud. The 6-year-old star of All Her Fault rocked a light teal suit and paired it with an exquisite emerald brooch. While chatting with ET, the young actor said he picked this particular fit, because “it was blue, and he could putted this jewelry on.” It also came with a pocket square. Those are all great reasons to pick this stand-out look!

All around, the guys came to play at the Golden Globes, and it was so fun to see. Now, as the awards season continues on the 2026 TV schedule, I’m looking forward to seeing how these men and other attendees continue to rock the carpets.

Zendaya and Bella Thorne’s ‘beautiful moment’on the Disney Channel. Brenda Song and Cole and Dylan Sprouse working together. Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf rounding out Party of Five (and working together again years later). A lot of former child stars ended up working with other famous youngsters during their early tenures in Tinseltown, but I’d absolutely forgotten Amanda Seyfried and Michael B. Jordan worked together early in their careers. That is until the two reminded me in a way that made me feel old AF.

In my millennial mind, Ms. Seyfried sprung onto the scene in Mean Girls when she reminded us there’s a “30% chance it’s already raining.” Jordan was around a bit earlier, rocking an extremely adorable take on early facial hair in The Wire. However, in the time between those two projects, the two actors actually both appeared in a slew of episodes of daytime soap All My Children.

Someone pulled some early pics of them at an event together and showed them to Michael B Jordan while he was out and about in support of his new movie Sinners. The actor had nothing but positive things to say about working with Amanda Seyfried, though he’s a bit less comfortable about how the throwback photos were dating him, telling ET:

Fascinatingly, Jordan's role on the show was one that was originally occupied by Chadwick Boseman, who quit when he didn't like the direction the character was being taken in.

Even more wildly, Amanda Seyfried got asked the same question about her time on All My Children, and her answer was so similar to her former co-star's, from her take on the ability to land opportunities in the present down to the “really, really” in both of their responses. Honestly, it almost felt like they’d coordinated in advance, but it is clear they feel very similarly about their collective experience!

The two aren't the only a-listers to kick off their careers in the soaps. Margot Robbie was on popular soap Neighbours before breaking into Hollywood. John Stamos played a "sex-craved casanova" on General Hospital for a time. S.W.A.T's Shemar Moore even fairly recently returned to his soap opera roots, so lots of people can nod back to daytime TV earlier in their careers.

Regardless, time passes for celebrities just as it passes for us regular folk, and as much as certain celebrities (ahem Kardashians) try to slow down the clock, eventually we all get to the point where we start feeling old. And if our faces aren’t telling us that, our knees or back or shoulders are. Or our kids, whichever comes first.

This even led to a viral tweet from Macaulay Culkin a few years ago when he hit the big 4-0. The point is, Hollywood’s not immune to mother time, and that’s probably as it should be. Though I really appreciate Amanda Seyfried and Michael B. Jordan giving each other their flowers all these years later. Maybe, it's time they work together again?

I want to try out a new type of movie quiz this week. Rather than answering questions or solving clues, for this one, we're asking you to put each actor's movies in order. Don't worry, it's just four movies per actor, but it might be challenging, depending on how good you are at remembering when films came out.

I tried not to get too tricky with the actors or their movies, so hopefully even a casual movie fan will have fun with this one. I think the earliest titles referenced go back to the '80s and '90s, and they should be films that most movie fans will know well. Without any further ado, let's get to it!

Before the 2026 Golden Globes winners were announced, host Nikki Glaser obviously got the ceremony started with an opening monologue. In addition to making the obvious joke about Leonardo DiCaprio and sneaking in a non-approved CBS joke, Glaser also dropped quite the “lust”-filled comment about Sinners actor Michael B. Jordan while his mom was seated right next to him. It was a much different kind of ‘actor and their parent’ moment than the ones we frequently talk about regarding Glen Powell and when his mother and father are at red carpet events, and Jordan opened up about his mother’s reaction to the comedian’s comment.

In case you missed it, Nikki Glaser pointed at the Golden Globes that “we got two Michael B. Jordans” in Sinners, referring to him playing twin brothers Smoke and Stack, and that when she saw this, she was “Nikki B. Jerkin’.” This clip, which included Jordan’s amused reaction to the comedian’s crack and his mother, Donna, taking a sip of some unidentified beverage at the same time, was played during the actor’s visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!. When the title host asked if Jordan’s mother gets uncomfortable when women “openly lust” after him, he answered:

While Michael B. Jordan’s been professionally acting since 1999, with some of his notable early roles including stints on All My Children, Friday Nights Lights and Parenthood, his career really got a boost in the mid-2010s with movies like Fruitvale Station and Creed. So let’s just assume Jordan’s mom has been hearing these comments for at least over a decade. I don’t blame her for just wanting to quickly move past those moments when they happen, but I’m also glad the camera caught her visible discomfort at the Golden Globes. It paired nicely with Jordan’s smiling embarrassingly after Nikki Glaser shouted out how hot he is to the world.

Sinners (which can be streamed with an HBO Max subscription) won the Golden Globes for Best Original Score and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, but Michael B. Jordan lost the Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category to The Secret Agent’s Wagner Moura. Nevertheless, Jordan and his mom had a fun night, with the Black Panther alum sharing that Donna “can hang” and was dancing at the afterparty. Jordan also called him mom his “partner in crime” during events like this, so maybe we’ll see them together at the Academy Awards in March or at next year’s Golden Globes.

At this point, maybe Michael B. Jordan should take a page from Glen Powell’s book and start giving his parents cameo roles in his movies. Granted, it’s too late to do that for Swapped, which opens on a yet-to-be-announced date on the 2026 movies schedule, as well as his remake of The Thomas Crown Affair that comes out in 2027. I’ll keep my fingers crossed this happens in future movies, though.

Let me just preface this by saying that I love Timothee Chalamet. In fact, if this is his year to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards, then so be it.

However, this is what I will say…even though Michael B. Jordan didn’t win Best Actor at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, he damn well better win Best Actor somewhere along the line this awards season, because his acting in Sinners is some of the best I’ve ever seen.

In fact, Sinners, which is jam-packed with representation, is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and I’m kind of worried about it, and Michael B. Jordan’s chances, this awards season. Let’s talk.

If It Were Up To Me, Michael B. Jordan Would Be The Best Actor Frontrunner

You know, there are some years when certain movies and actors are pretty much shoe-ins to win it all, and everybody else is just lucky to be nominated. 2026 is going to be interesting, since there are certain names that have come up repeatedly in the past few weeks for Best Actor, with the three heavies being Chalamet, DiCaprio, and Jordan, with Chalamet now looking like a frontrunner.

Now, at one point in 2025, when all anybody was talking about was Sinners, you couldn’t tell me that Michael B. Jordan wasn’t going to win Best Actor at every award ceremony possible. I mean, are you kidding me? He was so good playing the Smokestack Twins that my wife legitimately asked me if Michael B. Jordan had a twin brother. He was that good at playing “Smoke” and “Stack”.

In fact, if it were up to me (and I know this isn’t possible), I think Michael B. Jordan should be nominated in both the Best Actor category AND the Best Supporting Actor category, as he is basically playing two roles, with both of them feeling like completely different characters. If that isn’t worthy of nabbing at least a FEW Best Actor trophies along the way, then I don’t know what is.

However, Michael B. Jordan not winning Best Actor actually isn’t my biggest concern…

In Fact, If Sinners Doesn't Start Picking Up Any Major Categories Moving Forward, I'm Going To Be Really Upset

Okay, so you know how I said that the Best Actor talk seems like it’s now centered on one man, with that man being Chalamet? Well, when it comes to movies, it looks like One Battle After Another has all the momentum in the world for Best Picture wins. And look, like Chalamet being great in Marty Supreme, I don’t hate the idea of OBAA winning Best Picture at multiple ceremonies…in theory. Because while I loved One Battle After Another, it honestly doesn’t even come close to how much I loved Sinners, as it spoke to me on so many levels as both a Black man and as a cinephile.

I mean, the dance scene, that emotional speech Delroy Lindo gives, the music... Just everything about Sinners makes it the best movie of the year for me. I’m not alone, as the CinemaBlend team named it the best movie of last year.

However, it basically got washed at the Critics’ Choice Awards when it came to the “major” awards, as it took home Best Young Actor/Actress (Miles Caton), Best Casting & Ensemble (Francine Maisler), Best Score (Ludwig Goransson), and Best Original Screenplay (Ryan Coogler), but I want so much more for Sinners, which was just so culturally relevant, and wonderful.

We might still have some hope with the 2026 Actors Awards, but if Sinners doesn’t nab any major awards at the upcoming Golden Globes, I’m going to be beyond pissed. It’s going to feel like Get Out all over again - and by that, I mean coming close, but not going the distance.

Ryan Coogler has directed five movies, and with the exception of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (where he only cameoed), Michael B. Jordan has led them all. Sinners is their latest collaboration, with Jordan starring in one of the best movies of 2025 as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. The actor’s dual performances has among the many reasons Sinners has been met with many accolades, including being recognized among the 2026 Golden Globe nominations, and Coogler has now discussed how Jordan “challenged” him while they were making the horror movie.

During his discussion with fellow filmmaker Spike Lee for Variety’s Directors on Directors series, Ryan Coogler talked about his professional relationship with Michael B. Jordan and how it “started to make a lot of sense” for him to play twins in Sinners. Coogler thought it was “interesting” for an actor to “whose superpower is the audience is always with him” to play a “coldhearted killer” and a “manipulator.” When Lee noted that Coogler “flipped the script,” he responded:

In Sinners, Smoke and Stack are World War I veterans who spent seven years up to no good in Chicago, then returned to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi with money they’d stolen from criminal syndicates to purchase a saw mill and turn it into a juke joint. Both brothers have a lot of blood on their hands, but like Ryan Coogler said, Michael B. Jordan was up for the daunting task of making them both likable. When Spike Lee inquired about how specifically Jordan challenged him, Coogler shared this:

Stack was turned into a vampire by Hailee Steinfeld's Mary at roughly the halfway point of Sinners, and it eventually reached the point where Smoke had no choice but to bring an end to his now-bloodthirsty brother. Of course, it’s later revealed that Smoke didn’t actually kill Stack, but allowed him to go free if he agreed to let their cousin Sammie live the rest of his life in peace. However, that doesn’t take away from the emotional impact of when we initially think one twin is holding the other as he dies, not to mention the difficulty of Michael B. Jordan having to play both sides of the scene. Ryan Coogler added when Spike Lee asked if that was “done the same day”:

That seems to be going well so far, because just like Sinners, Fruitvale Station, Creed and Black Panther were all positively received. While Ryan Coogler made it clear there won’t be a Sinners sequel, we don’t need to worry about him and Michael B. Jordan not continuing to work together. The question now is, how will they challenge each other on their next project?

Some people cry during movies. It’s just a thing that happens. Some people get emotional during films all the time, others only have that happen in a few cases. Michael B. Jordan is man enough to admit that he has cried during movies before, but I have to say I wasn’t expecting the one that got him.

There’s a halfway decent chance that the last time you cried at a movie, it was during Michael B. Jordan’s Sinners. Jordan tells W Magazine that he also cried at Sinners. It says a lot about that movie that the guy who was in it still cried when he saw it. But what’s even more interesting are the other times Jordan mentions crying while watching something. He said…

I won’t lie, I did not expect Michael B. Jordan to drop Armageddon as a movie that made him cry. To be sure, I know Armageddon made audiences emotional. I have my own distinct memory of seeing the film on opening night and standing by the theater door as the previous showing ended and dozens of people filtered out, many of them sobbing. I knew going in that something was going to happen.

Clearly, Armageddon had quite an impression on Michael B. Jordan. The movie itself is nearly 30 years old, and it’s the one that he mentions when asked what movies make him cry. He’s seen the film multiple times, and it makes him cry “every time.”

The scene in question that almost certainly made Jordan cry, if you’ve never seen Armageddon, comes in the finale when the team, trying to drill a hole in an asteroid, discovers that the bomb to destroy the planet-killer rock will have to be triggered by a member of the team. Initially, Ben Affleck’s character pulls the short straw, but then Bruce Willis takes his place, so that his daughter and the man she loves will be together. Then he says goodbye to his daughter, and there isn't a dry eye in the house.

Today, this movie is maybe better known for Ben Affleck's hilarious DVD commentary than the film itself, but this makes me realize I really need to rewatch Armageddon. It's one of Michael Bay's best movies, with some incredible action, and some truly heartbreaking moments. Next time you need a good cry, maybe give this one a try.

The 2025 movie schedule offered up some excellent films across a wide range of genres, and those great pieces of work were accompanied by some superb performances from numerous actors. That includes a considerable amount of excellent work from more than a few Black performers. For me personally, it’s been wonderful to see so much Black talent on display over the past year, and there are 10 performances, in particular, that I really want to take the time to highlight. So, let’s discuss.

Michael B. Jordan Puts On An Incredible Showcase In Sinners

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners works on so many levels, and Michael B. Jordan’s dual performance as twins Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore is a major reason for that. Jordan is downright impeccable in the film, as he deftly portrays the siblings’ distinct personalities, making them feel like tangible characters and not clichés. There’s also a level of physicality he brings to the roles that really comes through in the third act. In short, this is wonderful work, and it’s not surprising at all that Jordan’s work has been praised so heavily.

Chase Infiniti Serves Up One Of The Best Feature Film Debuts Ever With One Battle After Another

I’m not sure anyone could’ve seen Chase Infiniti coming, but I’m so glad she’s now on the public’s radar. The young actress made her feature film debut in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, and her performance as Willa Ferguson is nothing short of phenomenal. Infiniti plays Willa with an adventurous spirit but also a sheer sense of urgency that shines through in the film’s tensest moments. Put simply, this is generational work, and I feel confident saying that Infiniti is going to be around for a long time.

Miles Caton Is A True Revelation In Sinners

Speaking of exciting new stars, Miles Caton made his own film debut in Sinners, and this young man is a certified talent. Caton plays aspiring blues musician Sammie “Preacherboy” Moore with an incredible level of sincerity and gravitas. As great as the film’s cast is, Caton is easily the emotional center and, of course, his singing abilities, which really shine through during THAT juke joint sequence, are immaculate. I’m excited to see where Caton goes from here.

Tessa Thompson’s Work In Hedda Furthers Her Status As A Skilled Leading Lady

In some ways, it honestly feels like Tessa Thompson was born to play the eponymous role in Nia DaCosta’s Hedda. As the socially savvy Hedda Gabler, Thompson is smooth as silk, giving off a wicked charm that’s just infectious. There’s also a level of tragedy to this character and, while viewers may not like her, Thompson’s meticulous acting helps articulate the protagonist’s pain. Here’s hoping that the Sorry to Bother You star gets more roles like this one – and has the opportunity to star in more period pieces.

Damson Idris Gives F1 A Sweet Boost With His Energized Performance

Someone could watch Snowfall and quickly get a sense of Damson Idris’ talents. Yet he really gives an electric performance in the racing blockbuster F1, in which he plays hotshot driver Joshua Pierce. Idris brings serious levels of swag to Joshua and perfectly balances his arrogance with his vulnerability. The British actor also deserves credit for not only going toe-to-toe with his seasoned screen partner, Brad Pitt, but for also getting in the driver’s seat for various scenes. If those two feats aren’t impressive, I don’t know what is.

Wunmi Mosaku’s Sinners Performance Is Both Soulful And Sweet

Annie is one of the complex female characters in Sinners, and she’s played with sheer conviction by Wunmi Mosaku. The Loki alum helps inject wisdom and spirituality into Annie and, whenever she speaks, she’s hard to ignore. What’s really amazing, though, is while Annie is a Hoodoo expert wrapped up in the supernatural elements of the movie, Mosaku’s performance as the wife and mother serves as a grounding element. Few performances this year are as emotionally affecting as this one.

Edi Gathegi Outshines Superman… In Superman

Don’t get me wrong, David Corenswet is wonderful as Superman’s titular character, but Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific really steals the show! Gathegi’s mask-wearing, tech-savvy hero serves as a voice of reason in the DCU film, dishing out facts as well as cheeky one-liners. As the Justice Gang member, Gathegi has a cerebral aura that interestingly makes him feel both relatable and larger than life. I don’t know what James Gunn has planned for the hero, but I certainly hope Gathegi gets to play him in plenty of upcoming DC movies and shows.

Naomi Ackie Adds A Delightful Dose Of Strength And Warmth To Mickey 17

Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 is just further proof as to why audiences need to stop sleeping on Naomi Ackie. The Blink Twice star plays security agent Nasha Barridge, the love interest of the main character, but she’s so much more. She’s also a woman with her own aspirations and isn’t defined by her romantic relationships (though she does enjoy them). Ackie is well cast in the role, as she can play both Nasha’s toughness and vulnerability excellently while also adding humor to the proceedings. Overall, Ackie really deserves her flowers.

Delroy Lindo Is Nothing Short Of A Scene-Stealer In Sinners

Sinners’ Delta Slim may be one of the best characters Delroy Lindo has ever played, and that’s saying a lot given the veteran actors’ body of work. In Ryan Coogler’s hit film, Lindo’s Slim provides a great deal of levity, which the actor exudes perfectly, but he also conveys the more tragic aspects of the drunken bluesman effectively. (He even has one of the movie’s most heartbreaking moments.) I was disappointed that Lindo didn’t land a Golden Globe nod, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a perfect performance.

David Jonsson Gives One Of The Year’s Best Performances In The Long Walk

If you haven’t heard of David Jonsson, then you should really take notice, especially after his work in The Long Walk. Jonsson’s performance as Peter McVries is next-level, as he breathes stunning life into a young man with a troubled past who’s holding onto optimism. The Rye Lane star plays Pete with a great level of conviction, as he delivers dialogue with authority (especially a monologue about the importance of hope). Jonsson is this film’s “beating heart” and a force to be reckoned with, and I’m eager to see what he does next.

As you can see, Black actors put in some serious work over the past year, and the performances listed here deserved to be celebrated. And there are more, of course. (Regina Hall, Jay Ellis, Teyana Taylor, Keke Palmer and ASAP Rocky make up just a handful of the other great performers of the year.) Let’s hope the 2026 movie schedule yields even more stellar performances like these.

During their conversation, the Fruitvale Station actor got real about one goal he’d like to achieve one day and what’s holding him back:

That sounds very reasonable of Jordan. The real test to see if you’re parent material is placing yourself in the position of taking care of a living being. Plants need to be watered. Dogs need to be cleaned, fed, taken to the vet, and loved. If you can find success in being a parent to living beings like that, a kid should be a cinch.

There are plenty of celebrities who have proven to be very adorable with their dogs before becoming parents to kids. Chris Evans was sewing up his doggo’s toys before becoming a father. Glen Powell doesn’t have kids yet, but he did adopt an adorable pupper, Brisket. When you see how happy these celebs are with their pups, you know their happiness will only grow once they bring a child into the world.

The Black Panther actor may not be a father yet, but he has played a father plenty of times. In his breakout role, Jordan played a young dad close to his little girl in Fruitvale Station. His humanizing, raw portrayal of the bond his character Oscar Grant had with his daughter truly was the heart of the Ryan Coogler movie.

In Creed III, Jordan kept the “Girl Dad” trend again, with Adonis bonding with his daughter through their communication of ASL and secretly teaching her the ropes of boxing. I could see the talented actor bringing what he’s learned from his fatherhood roles to real life when the time comes.

While Michael B. Jordan does see himself wanting children one day, it is smart that he’d rather test his parenting skills on a plant or dog first before a kid. Can you believe it? Another year of movies has nearly come and gone. When I look back at all the 2025 movie releases I've seen so far (which is 70+ at the time of writing this) I knew I needed to revisit some of my favorite movies before deciding what my official top ten is. That final ranking is still in flux for me, but as I'm in the process of figuring that out, I chose five that left a big impression on me from the first half of the year. My thoughts on Sinners in particular saw a shift.

I Rewatched 5 Of My Favorite Movies Of 2025, And Here’s How It Went

So, here's what I watched, aside from Sinners: Stephen King adaptation The Life Of Chuck, James Gunn's blockbuster superhero movie Superman, Netflix smash hit KPop Demon Hunters, and Celine Song's Materialists. Each of these movies felt like real memorable moments upon first viewing, between rounding up people I loved to see them and the really impressive filmmaking and storytelling at the heart of each one across multiple genres.

While I originally had The Life Of Chuck higher than Sinners for how life-affirming and emotional it made me, I must admit on my second watch it didn't hit quite the same for me, and was kind of a slog in some parts. Superman remains an awesome start to the new DCU, but I see myself appreciating it more than actually venturing back to it often.

My thoughts on KPop Demon Hunters remains relatively the same: it's a perfect animated movie by my measure that I'll be rewatching for years to come (and I won't be getting tired of the soundtrack anytime soon). As for Materialists, it still made me cry, but the "controversy" sets it back a bit after all the conversations I've had with people about it.

Why I Think Sinners Crawled To The Top Of My List

However, my opinion on Sinners is what changed the most. In terms of the Ryan Coogler film in contrast to the rest of my list, it's the first movie out of them I watched, which was back in April, and I perhaps didn't know what was in front of me upon first viewing. I definitely liked the movie, but I didn't fully grasp how genuinely perfect it is on the first go around (though our Sinners review got it right at 5 out of 5 stars).

I think part of that is because it was so hyped when it first came out, and I had my own ideas of what the movie was going to be I hadn't set aside. For one, I thought Sinners was going to be a lot more horror-leaning than it actually is, and with that in mind, the whole movies taking place at the juke joint was somewhat underwhelming to my expectations. I felt as if there were so much commentary within it's narrative that it bit more than it could chew on that front.

But upon my rewatch, my opinions soon changed. For one, I absolutely love that it takes place mainly in the juke joint, and think it's particularly impressive that such a contained story feels so cinematic and big. Second, I realized that what I first read as disjointed actually speaks to the layered quality of the movie. Every time I watch it, I'm going to have new things I can focus on and will get out of it. (The second time, I was really moved by its commentary on legacy, and I know there are more details I have yet to uncover.) When I look for a favorite, rewatchability, is a huge factor, and Sinners has it tenfold with its many great scenes, songs and quotes.

Sometimes, great movies just need a second watch to be appreciated, and man, am I happy I watched if before the end of the year. Because now it's at the very top of my list, and I now consider to be a rare masterpiece and future classic.

Then, there’s also a “cheat code” he learned from Bradley Cooper and Jon Favreau for Creed III on how to direct his movie while wearing a mouthguard. With so many people for Jordan to look up to, it’s no wonder he never fails to deliver a powerful performance.

What I also love is that now that he's found success, Michael B. Jordan tries to be there for other stars like Ben Affleck was for him. It also seems he's taking the right kinds of creative cues from his mentors. That was clear when Jordan scored his directorial debut with Creed III, to which he brought his vision and leadership to the set. He would help his co-stars, like Tessa Thompson, who said he gave her the freedom to improvise that she didn’t have in the other movies.

It's wonderful to see where Michael B. Jordan is today, and he definitely seems grateful that celebs like Ben Affleck have helped guide him. Now, my wish is for these two to collaborate on a movie together. Considering the profound effect they've had on each other, let’s hope that dream becomes a reality soon. With that, he recently took part in Variety’s Actors on Actors segment, during which he chatted with his former Friday Night Lights co-star, Jesse Plemons. At this point, Michael B. Jordan is a well-known public figure in his own right, having starred in high-profile movies and taken his talents behind the camera as a director as well. On that note, Jordan just landed his first Golden Globe nomination for his performances as twins Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s vampire drama.

Unsurprisingly, the always-booked-and-busy Chronicle star has a few projects on the docket now. He directed and starred in a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and he’s reportedly circling the Miami Vice movie from Joseph Kosinski. Those certainly aren’t small productions. All in all, Michael B. Jordan’s done quite well for himself so, when someone says they want to be like Mike, we may not want to automatically assume they’re talking about Air Jordan.

I'm willing to be that you have heard about the amazing 2025 that has been had by Michael B. Jordan. While he has been earning acclaim for just about his entire career, the release of Sinners has put him on a new level – as he is now recognized as a A-lister with the power to carry a non-IP film to blockbuster success. The actor has been earning accolades left and right, with more to come as we get deeper into awards season... which makes me all the more appreciate the special love that he recently extended to his Creed trilogy co-star Tessa Thompson.

Like Jordan, Thompson too has been on the receiving end of laudation from critics in 2025, specifically for her turn as the titular character in writer/director Nia DaCosta's Hedda. Last night, she was given the Actress Award – Film prize at the Critics Choice Association’s 2025 Celebration of Black Cinema & Television, and the Sinners star was on-stage to give it to her. In the aftermath of the event, Jordan took to his personal Instagram account to express his joy about how things went, writing,

If the fact that Tessa Thompson's role in Hedda is now winning awards isn't enough to push you to go see it, perhaps Michael B. Jordan's endorsement will be enough – as the guy certainly knows a thing or two about great performances (have pulled off a pair of them starring in Sinners).

Now available to watch with an Amazon Prime subscription (as noted by Jordan), Hedda is a new adaptation of the classic Henrik Ibsen play Hedda Gabler, and it marks the third collaboration between its star and Nia DaCosta after 2018's Little Woods (the filmmaker's directorial debut) and 2023's The Marvels (which features Thomson in a cameo role). The story follows the eponymous character as she feels trapped in a gilded cage and convinces her husband to throw a lavish party that sees drama unfold due to the attendance of her former lover and her husband's professional rival.

Also starring Nina Hoss, Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, the movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall and arrived on streaming in October following a brief qualifying run in theaters.

As for what the future may hold for Tessa Thompson and Michael B. Jordan as collaborators, that's a big question mark. It seems unlikely that their characters will ever meet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (principally because the latter's Erik Killmonger is very dead) and it's unknown when we might get to see a Creed 4 (though it is a project in the works). Perhaps Thompson could end up with a role in the developing Miami Vice remake? I don't think there is a rational person on the planet who would be upset about that development.

Few films have managed to stir up excitement and discussions amongst moviegoers this year like Sinners has. Ryan Coogler’s critically lauded vampire epic definitely struck a chord with the general public, so it’s not surprising that it’s been pegged as a major player during this awards season. So far, the movie has landed various nominations and wins from different governing bodies, and it’s now received some 2025 Golden Globes noms. As great as those nods are, though, I’m still feeling slightly disappointed about some key snubs.

Which Golden Globes Categories Has Sinners Been Nominated In?

The GG nominations went out early Monday morning, and more than a few of the year’s most talked-about films received some love. Sinners managed to land seven noms as well. Michael B. Jordan – who played twins “Smoke” and “Stack” in the movie – was nominated for Best Performance By A Male Actor In A Motion Picture – Drama. Meanwhile, Ryan Coogler was nominated for Best Director – Motion Picture, and the film itself received a Best Motion Picture – Drama nod. Those honors and the others are noted below:

• Best Motion Picture – Drama
• Best Director – Motion Picture (Ryan Coogler)
• Best Performance By A Male Actor In A Motion Picture – Drama (Michael B. Jordan)
• Best Screenplay – Motion Picture (Ryan Coogler)
• Best Original Score – Motion Picture (Ludwig Göransson)
• Best Original Song – Motion Picture (“I Lied To You” from Ludwig Göransson and Raphael Saadiq)
• Cinematic And Box Office Achievement

These are major awards for the film to have been nominated for, and there’s also a bit of history to make note of. What’s particularly satisfying for me is that this is the first time Michael B. Jordan has been nominated for a Golden Globe in any category. Also, this is Ryan Coogler’s first time being nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Of course, it also feels fitting that Ludwig Göransson would receive nominations for his stellar musical work (which is integral to the film).

As exciting as these nods are, I can’t help but think about a couple of other categories in which the film could’ve been nominated. There are specifically a few cast members who were more than deserving of noms.

Sinners Deserved To Be Nominated In A Couple Of Other Categories

While Michael B. Jordan’s dual performance as the Smokestack Twins has been praised, he wasn’t the only actor fans left the theater thinking about. Miles Caton – who marked his feature film debut with this flick – has also been praised for his role as young sharecropper Sammie Moore. Caton brings youthful energy and true believability to the role as well as his stunning musical prowess. Caton seemed like a shoo-in for Best Performance By A Male Actor In A Supporting Role In Any Motion Picture.

Another star who also could’ve (arguably should’ve) been added to that Supporting Actor category was Delroy Lindo. The seasoned actor plays boozy blues player Delta Slim in Sinners, and his performance is nothing short of fantastic. While he adds levity to the proceedings, Lindo’s character is also incredibly tragic, and his monologue about a murdered friend remains a heartbreaking moment I can’t stop thinking about. (Honestly, I’m now flashing back to Lindo being snubbed in 2021 for his work in Da 5 Bloods.)

Speaking of elements I can’t stop thinking about, the same is true of Wunmi Mosaku, who portrays Hoodoo expert Annie. Once the Loki alum appears on screen, it doesn’t take long for her to make an impression. Not only is Mosaku cerebral in the role, but she’s also incredibly soulful and, despite her character’s superstitious nature, the actress grounds this horror film in a way that’s necessary for a big movie like this one.

I don’t want to sound ungrateful here, as Sinners – Ryan Coogler’s first truly original film – received quite a few Golden Globes nominations. However, I’m scratching my head a bit considering that Caton, Osaku or Lindo didn’t receive noms. As for the nods the movie did receive, we’ll see if they translate to wins when the GGs air live on Sunday, January 11 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. In the meantime, fans can stream Coogler's horror movie using an HBO Max subscription.

There may be no bigger modern-day champion of the big screen than Tom Cruise. Say what you want about him, but he has literally risked his life for movies, and two people who really appreciate that are Sinners star Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler. The longtime collaborators, and self-proclaimed movie nerds, recently sat down to talk about their 2025 movie release and blockbuster horror hit, and Jordan revealed he’d had a full-on film summit with the Top Gun mega star. Meanwhile, fans immediately noticed that Coogler sounded just a tiny bit salty about being left out.

The moment Tom Cruise’s name entered the chat during an interview with EW, Jordan lit up like someone describing their favorite roller coaster. Coogler—who has made some of the decade’s biggest movies—admitted he still hasn’t met the action icon. Jordan recalled:

Jordan instantly tried to make it better. He reassured the director, saying:

In Hollywood terms, that’s basically a knighthood. And the whole exchange is so entertaining that you really do need to see it for yourself.

Honestly, this crossover has been building for a while. Cruise—who rarely posts about films that aren’t his own—made headlines when he publicly praised Sinners. His Instagram shout-out surprised fans, mainly because the actor and stuntman tends to keep his social media strictly Mission: Impossible–coded. When he breaks the pattern, it means something really impressed him.

Jordan, in turn, pulled up to support Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in IMAX, essentially closing the loop on this very wholesome movie-buff bromance. As the Creed star has admitted in other interviews, he’s a sucker for premium formats and cinematic spectacle, so of course a Tom Cruise outing was going to be his jam. (He’s also still grieving the Princess Mononoke IMAX re-release he missed, which is extremely relatable.)

It definitely feels like Jordan has entered Tom Cruise’s inner circle, leaving Coogler to joke about still not having met the blockbuster legend—which only makes the dynamic funnier. However, if the Mummy star is already this fired up about the Black Panther director’s work, their eventual meeting seems inevitable.

The Minority Report actor's stamp of approval also doesn’t hurt Sinners, which has already become a box-office force and earned unusually enthusiastic praise from across Hollywood. The longtime Ethan Hunt performer, who Steven Spielberg famously credited with “saving theaters” thanks to Top Gun: Maverick, has made a habit of publicly supporting other filmmakers’ successes. Seeing him champion a new horror movie that isn’t based on prior IP feels like a perfect continuation of that movie-lover energy.

Following an all-time great performance from Michael B. Jordan this year with Sinners, it’s very unsurprising he’s booked and busy with more movies on the way. He’s directing and starring in a remake for The Thomas Crown Affair and is reportedly being eyed for a Miami Vice reboot with Austin Butler. Now, if you’re curious if his movie plans include Creed 4, the actor just offered an update on that front.

Back in 2023, Jordan confirmed that a fourth Creed movie would happen, but updates have been few and far between since then. It seems there's now some good new, though, in regard to what Jordan refers to as the "Creed-Verse." Here’s what he told Variety:

Jordan has, of course, made three Creed movies, with his favorite collaborator -- Ryan Coogler -- always involved behind the scenes in some capacity. The Rocky spinoff franchise's first installment hit theaters in 2015 and received critical acclaim. A sequel was released in 2018, and a third installment followed in 2023.

The last Creed movie didn’t have Rocky Balboa actor Sylvester Stallone, but found a great way to handle his absence. One of our writers argued at the time of Creed III’s release that the franchise should wait a good decade before Creed 4 due to the way it wrapped up the story. Adonis was hoping to retire in that threequel as is, so it makes sense that he might take a long break out of the ring before going back to it as well.

So perhaps it's time the franchise centered around a new character? Given Michael B. Jordan's comments, we may have to expect a longer wait for the fourth Creed movie but, in the meantime, Jordan and co. have another idea they're working on:

Earlier this year, an Amazon Prime Video series titled Delphi was ordered (per Deadline) with Michael B. Jordan on board as an executive producer. It will be focused on the young boxers at the eponymous gym from the Rocky and Creed movies. As Jordan revealed, the series will thrust Adonis Creed and Bianca Taylor-Creed’s aspiring boxer daughter, Amara, into the spotlight. This feels like a great way to expand the "Creed-Verse."

Of course, it would still be great to see a proper fourth installment in the Creed film franchise headlined by Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson. Jordan's latest comments suggest that it could be a minute before that happens, but it's good to hear that, at the very least, the leading man is planning for the flick to happen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine, one that constantly releases new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Those who have spent years watching the Marvel movies in order know that some franchises are fan favorites, chief among them being Ryan Coogler's Black Panther. And Michael B. Jordan recently revealed the sweet memento he keeps to remind him of late actor Chadwick Boseman.

Black Panther was an Oscar-nominated success that instantly became a sensation upon its release. Boseman became a real-life hero to many as a result, which is why his sudden passing continues to be so devastating. In a video from BAFTA, Jordan revealed that he's got a stuffed panther that he keeps as a reminder of his late co-star, as he shared:

The pair of stars had great chemistry in the Marvel blockbuster, with Killmonger and T'Challa battling each other and ultimately finding some common ground through Black Panther's ending. Michael B. Jordan had a surprise cameo in Wakanda Forever, with Killmonger speaking to Shuri in the Ancestral Plane. Overall the blockbuster was a meditation on grief, with the cast and crew using their real-life feelings about Boseman death to inform the project.

The cast of the Black Panther has been very open about their feelings of grief in the years since Chadwick Boseman passed away. While Jordan has a keepsake in his home, Lupita Nyong'o has penned tributes to her late collaborator and friend. Angela Bassett also talked about the loss, and the decision not to recast the role of T'Challa with another actor.

Michael B. Jordan's friendship with Boseman clearly continues to mean something to him, despite the years that have passed since the late actor's death. Grief comes in waves, and it's heartening to hear the way the Creed star/director honors his Black Panther co-star.

Since Wakanda Forever was very much about the loss of Boseman IRL, it should be fascinating to see where Ryan Coogler takes the franchise next. Wakanda Forever's ending left some narrative threads to pull from, specifically the revelation that T'Challa and Nakia had a child. And while Shuri is the new Panther, she's not ruling as the Queen of Wakanda.

While it remains to be seen when Black Panther 3 will arrive, both Shuri and M'Baku are expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday when it arrives in theaters December 18th of next year as part of the 2026 movie release list.

One large example of the actor creating his own “house” is when Jordan first teamed up with Ryan Coogler on Fruitvale Station back in 2012. Jordan and Coogler have since collaborated on four movies from a director/actor capacity, and a few others in a more behind-the-scenes capacity. Some other notable collaborators who supported Jordan at the award ceremony in Beverly Hills included Octavia Spencer, Tessa Thompson, Daniel Kaluuya, Delroy Lindo, Phylicia Rashad and composer Ludwig Göransson with a performance of “I Lied To You” from Sinners.

The award honor comes as Sinners enters this year’s award season. Gold Derby is currently predicting that Sinners will be nominated in a host of categories at the Oscar. Odds are high for it earning a spot for Best Picture along with Ryan Coogler getting a Best Director nod, Jordan being nominated for Best Actor, the script being on the list for Best Original Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, Best Score , Best Sound and Best Original Song. Sinners could sweep awards season with all the nominations!

For now, Jordan’s inspiring words speak to his work ethic and innovative perspective on making it big in Hollywood.

In a world of rumored reboots and sequels, there seems to be one that might see the light of day. Years after Michael Mann’s lukewarm television show-to-movie adaptation of Miami Vice from 2006, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski has been lined up to direct a new big-screen take on the classic '80s show. Not everything seems to be official just yet apparently. However, Kosinski still has some glowing thoughts to share on the two actors reportedly being eyed for the lead roles -- Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler.

Kosinski recently attended the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards, where he was recognizing the tremendous sound artists that worked on his 2025 movie release, F1. While on the red carpet, Kosinski chatted with Variety about the upcoming Miami Vice film he's been working on as of late. The filmmaker was specifically asked about the prospect of working with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, and Kosinski has specific reasons for wanting to join forces with the two A-listers:

It was reported just weeks ago that Michael B. Jordan was linked to Miami Vice, with insiders saying he was up for the role of Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs. Jordan is coming off the massive box office success of Sinners, and he's, of course, been a major star in the industry for years now. A massive film like this could be a nice notch on he Creed star's resume, and he could certainly bring charm and charisma to the role of Tubbs. Quite frankly, it's easy to understand just why Kosinski has admired Jordan for so long.

Of course, another great get for the film would be Austin Butler, who's reportedly in talks to take on the role of James "Sonny" Crockett. Butler has more than proven his acting prowess over the past several years, thanks to his roles in films like Elvis (which landed him an Oscar nomination) and The Bikeriders. As Joseph Kosinski said, he's made some interesting choices, and I think he'd be a solid fit for Sonny.

I personally can’t imagine a better creative team to adapt the beloved show. Joseph Kosinski is a hot director right now, coming off major big screen successes in F1 and Top Gun: Maverick. Additionally, Kosinski is known for the incredible technical sensibilities he brings to his features. I'd love to see what he could do with a detective-based IP like Miami Vice. Also, even more interestingly, Kosinski's film will reportedly be set in the '80s, which is when the OG show aired. Needless to say, this could be a very interesting production.

Still, Miami Vice is currently in the early stages of development, so it could be a while until official updates -- including confirmation on the two leads -- are confirmed. Still, I love hearing just how enthusiastic Joseph Kosinski is about it. In the meantime, though, Michael B. Jordan fans can check out Sinners by streaming it with an HBO Max subscription. I'm not personally an actor, but one thing that I admire about the profession is the emotional vulnerability to which the most dedicated stars open themselves in their work. Providing an authentic performance in a heavy drama can require going to some dark places, and that kind of internal exploration can leave a person feeling very raw. And when I hear a story like the one about the time that Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone had a hard cry on the set of director Ryan Coogler's Creed, my admiration is really only enhanced.

Stallone personally shared the story recently as part of a career retrospective video recorded for GQ. He looks back at a number of performances, including his time in the Rambo movies and the Expendables franchise, but in the segment during which he discusses his long time playing Rocky Balboa, he talks about the series entering a new era with Creed and a powerful moment that he shared with co-star Michael B. Jordan. Said the actor,

Reflecting on the film, it's likely that Stallone is referencing a sequence toward the middle of Creed when Rocky and Michael B. Jordan's Adonis are sparring in a ring late one night. Things seem fine at first, but then Rocky gets dizzy and runs to the ropes to vomit in a bucket. In a following scene, the boxing legend is taken to a hospital and diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (there was talk at one point about Rocky dying in the movie, but Stallone had that idea nixed).

Apparently the filming of the sequence was a lot to take on for the actors, and they both had a shared bawling session at what was the end of the production day. Stallone added,

I kind of hope that whatever was the root "cause" of the moment never comes out. It sounds like the two stars shared a very personal moment together, and I feel it's worth appreciating their powerful emotional expression by itself without digging into it further.

In addition to being a lovely story about two beloved stars, this is also a nice reminder of just how great a movie Creed is. The film is actually celebrating its tenth anniversary next month (how time flies!), and if you're feeling game for a rewatch, it's not presently available to stream from any subscription service, but it is available for digital rental and purchase, and it has been released on both 4K UHD and Blu-ray.

Michael B. Jordan has had a big year, as he headlined the critically acclaimed vampire thriller Sinners, which is now being mentioned amongst other potential awards contenders. It would seem that Jordan is still making serious moves, as he’s reportedly lining up another big franchise in the form of the big-screen Miami Vice reboot. His involvement in the film is exciting enough, but it would seem that another massive movie star is in talks to join the action flick. This would be a major pickup for the film, and I love this casting!

Per reports, Michael B. Jordan has been courted to play the role of Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in Universal Pictures’ latest big-screen reimagining of the classic ‘80s TV series. The obvious question after that, of course, would be in regard to who’s playing Tubbs’ partner, James “Sonny” Crocket. Well, according to Variety, Austin Butler is now reportedly in negotiations to play the role of Sonny in the flick. According to the trade, neither Butler’s nor Jordan’s deals have been closed, as of this writing, but this is still an exciting bit of news.

I’d be lying if I said I knew every single detail about the Miami Vice franchise. However, given what I do know and have seen of the show, Butler would make just as perfect a Sonny as Jordan would make a Rico. Both stars ooze the kind of charisma that Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas had when they portrayed Crockett and Tubbs, respectively, on the OG show. What we could have with this reboot is an old-fashioned blockbuster that stars two of Hollywood’s premier leading men, and I’m so here for it!

Like his potential co-star, Austin Butler has also been putting in work as of late. This year alone, Butler graced the silver screen by way of Ari Aster’s neo-western, Eddington, and the Darren Aronofsky-helmed crime thriller Caught Stealing. The past few years have also seen Butler land roles in films like Dune: Part Two and The Bikeriders, and he was, of course, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for her lead performance in 2022’s Elvis.

Should the not-exactly-method actor actually land the role of Crockett in Miami Vice, it would be another major gig for him. It would also pair him up with director Joseph Kosinski, who’s been hired to helm the flick. Kosinski’s hiring is just one thing MV has going for it, as he has plenty of experience handling massive films. Only the Brave and Tron: Legacy are among some of Kosinski’s earlier directing credits but, more recently, he’s dazzled audiences with the box office hits Top Gun: Maverick and F1.

This isn’t the first time Miami Vice has been adapted for the big screen, as Michael Mann helmed a film remake that was released in 2006. Mann’s movie saw Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell take on the roles of Tubbs and Crockett, respectively. While the action flick didn’t make much of an impression at the box office and wasn’t well received critically, it has gained a bit of a cult following in recent years.

Let’s hope it’s not too long before Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler close their deals for this upcoming reboot. Should this project come to fruition with them at the helm, I firmly believe Universal will be in a position to make copious amounts of money at the box office.

Michael B. Jordan is obviously no stranger to success, but it can be said that his career has hit a special new high in 2025. He has been a part of some massive movies, including the Creed trilogy and Black Panther, but his star power was a key ingredient in the blockbuster success of Sinners (a film not based on any existing intellectual property and featuring the actor delivering a phenomenal dual performance). His name has a lot of heat right now, which is why it is not surprising in the least to see that he is in the mix for a lot of exciting projects, with the latest being Joseph Kosinski's upcoming Miami Vice reboot.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan has entered talks to sign on for the new film based on the classic 1980s crime series, and should he end up signing on the dotted line, he will be playing Ricardo Tubbs, one of the two leads (a character previously played by Philip Michael Thomas on the aforementioned TV show and Jamie Foxx in Michael Mann's 2006 movie adaptation). An actor has not yet signed on for the role of James Crockett, Tubbs' fellow undercover detective working for Miami's Metro-Dade Police Department.

The new Miami Vice is being directed by Joseph Kosinski as his follow-up to his own massive 2025 success (a.k.a. F1 starring Brad Pitt), and screenwriting duties are being handled by Top Gun: Maverick co-scribe Eric Warren Singer and Nightcrawler writer/director Dan Gilroy.

It's a new franchise project for Michael B. Jordan, but not the only one he is currently a part of. He is presently directing and starring in a new remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and his upcoming slate also includes Rainbow Six (a follow-up to 2021's Without Remorse), Creed IV (which Jordan has confirmed as being in the works), and I Am Legend 2 with Will Smith.

The last time we saw a Miami Vice movie, things didn't work out so well, as the project had a budget rumored to be as $150 million (per Slate) and it ended up being a major misfire. Despite featuring the talent of Michael Mann in the director's chair and the star power of Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell (who played Crockett), the film got an underwhelming reaction from critics and it ended up making just $164.9 million worldwide during its theatrical run. Clearly, the hope is that the box office power of Kosinski and Jordan will result in a different fate for the new project.

Universal Pictures has already set an August 6, 2027 release date for Miami Vice, so we can expect that production will start in the middle of next year at the latest.
