Gilmore Girls was not just a hit that ran for seven seasons in the early 2000s, but a show that’s still beloved by fans to the point where a sequel miniseries was made in 2016 (which you can watch with your Netflix subscription), nine years after the original finale. It’s also one of the most rewatchable shows ever that gives fans a nostalgic experience, but if you’ve recently completed a binge of the family dramedy, then it’s good that we have a list for you of 32 movies and shows that feature the Gilmore Girls cast. Supernatural (2005-2020)

Sure, this list could have started anywhere, but why not start with the portrayer of (mostly) sweet Dean, Jared Padalecki? His supporting role on Gilmore Girls couldn’t have prepared fans for his hugely successful run as the creature-of-the-night hunting Sam Winchester on Supernatural. The series ran for 15 seasons and has tons of amazing episodes, especially if you enjoy spooky stuff.

How To Get Away With Murder (2014-2020)

Overall, most of the players from GG saw a boost in their careers after the show, and likely helped make it possible for Liza Weil, who played the ever-stressed Paris Geller, to eventually make her way to a major role on the thrilling ABC hit, How to Get Away with Murder.

The O.C. (2003-2007)

Is bringing up Fox’s early aughts mega-hit teen drama The O.C. this quickly a bit of a cheat? Sure, but we can’t deny that without the popularity of his Dave Rygalski in Season 3, we might never have gotten actor Adam Brody as the funny, loyal, Summer-obsessed Seth Cohen in one of the defining teen shows of all time.

The Handmaid’s Tale (2017-2021)

Much like viewers were probably not prepared to watch Padalecki fight monsters after his time on Gilmore Girls, I doubt most could have expected to see star Alexis Bledel take on Dr. Emily Malek, the strong-willed and rebellious Handmaid first known as Ofglen. She won an Emmy Award for her role, so this is one drama not to miss.

Parenthood (2010-2015)

There might be no character more strong-willed, funny and quirky than Lorelei Gilmore, who was brought to life so exceptionally by Lauren Graham. If that character description sounds a lot like Sarah Braverman-Holt from NBC’s family drama, Parenthood, then you get why Graham was a perfect fit for both.

Bride & Prejudice (2004)

A small role is a role nonetheless, and if you check out the amazing Jane Austen-inspired rom-com, Bride & Prejudice, you’ll see Bledel as Georgie Darcy, Will’s younger sister.

The Good Wife (2009-2016)

Say what you will about being Team Logan, but the Huntzberger boy still has his supporters even today. This is probably because Matt Czuchry did such a good job portraying him, much like he did the charming go-getter Cary Agos on CBS’ legal drama, The Good Wife.

Fire Country (2024)

As one of the biggest dramas on CBS, Fire Country is hard to miss and even harder to dislike. That’s why it’s the perfect show to check out to see Jared Padalecki as the still-grieving firefighter Camden Casey during Season 3.

Saw IV (2007)

Honestly, were you expecting to see something as horrific as Saw IV on this list? Well, you might be even more surprised to know that Scott Patterson, who played Luke Danes, appeared in a total of three Saw films as determined FBI agent Peter Strahm.

This Is Us (2016-2022)

Can you imagine if anyone has forgotten This Is Us? NBC’s family drama was an immediate success, with the trailer for the very first season racking up a staggering number of views. Of course, you can revel in your Team Jess status by watching Milo Ventimiglia portray loving patriarch Jack Pearson.

13 Reasons Why (2017-2018)

13 Reasons Why is a teen drama that made major waves during its run on Netflix, but you might not know that Keiko Agena, who brought Lane Kim to life on GG, spent the first two seasons playing the kind and protective communications teacher, Pamela Bradley.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024)

If you can be in the mood for a holiday film all year long, then 2024’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever should be added to your viewing calendar. In it, Lauren Graham brings her signature charm to the role of Beth Bradley.

Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)

Of all the GG actors who one might have expected to appear in a giant blockbuster franchise, few fans would likely have bet on the actor who gave us the wonderfully nice but odd Kirk Gleason, Sean Gunn. After a supporting role as Kraglin in the original Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, he’s now reprised the part in seven MCU films and TV series.

Bridesmaids (2011)

For the first time on this list, we get to Melissa McCarthy, who played beloved chef Sookie St. James. She was in several projects after Gilmore Girls ended, but the comedy hit Bridesmaids, where she played the loyal but crude and somewhat erratic Megan, launched her career into the stratosphere. She received an Oscar nomination for her work, so it’s not to be missed.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (2020-2021)

The jukebox musical dramedy series, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, was a treat, but if you missed its two seasons on NBC, know that Lauren Graham played a major role in Season 1 as Zoey’s strict boss, Joan.

The Cleaning Lady (2022-Now)

Any show about gangsters needs a good cop investigating and trying to bring them down, and Liza Weil has starred as confident and cunning FBI agent Katherine Russo on The Cleaning Lady for the thriller’s entire run so far.

The Heat (2013)

Need a wild action comedy about two mismatched officers (one a prim, by-the-book FBI agent, and the other a crass, quick-to-anger, by-any-means-necessary local cop) who have to get along enough to get a drug lord off the streets? Then you should watch Melissa McCarthy as police detective Shannon Mullins ASAP.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (2021-2022)

This follow-up to The Mighty Ducks film franchise hit Disney+ and brought GG fans more of Lauren Graham, as she starred as Alex Morrow, who forms and then coaches a new underdog hockey team after her son is cut by the Ducks.

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants (2005)

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a two-film franchise that still means a lot to those who were young women at the time it was released. There’s no better time than now to revisit (or watch for the first time) Alexis Bledel as Lena in both films.

An Unmarried Woman (1978)

Here’s a throwback for you. The 1978 romantic comedy-drama, An Unmarried Woman, features a performance from none other than Emily Gilmore herself, Kelly Bishop, as Elaine, a good friend of the title character.

The Lost Boys (1987)

Alright, this one’s technically a throwback, too, it just doesn’t go back quite as far. But, The Lost Boys is a definite teen horror classic, along with talents like Kiefer Sutherland and Corey Feldman, stars Richard Gilmore actor, Edward Hermann, in an important role.

Prodigal Son (2019-2021)

This Fox crime drama may not have lasted long, but it certainly had a dedicated fanbase, and some of that was likely because of Keiko Agena’s work as the kind, trusting, and socially awkward medical examiner, Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.

Sullivan’s Crossing (2023-2024)

The family drama, Sullivan’s Crossing, came to The CW with a treat for Gilmore Girls fans, as it brought Scott Patterson back to the network as the estranged father, Sully, of the lead character, big city neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan, who returns to her small Nova Scotia town after a scandal.

Mike & Molly (2010-2016)

The long-running comedy Mike & Molly is another of Melissa McCarthy’s post-GG projects. This CBS hit saw the titular couple fall in love after a health-related meet-cute, and work on their relationship while attempting to deal with their often wacky families and friends, and life’s many ups and downs. Check it out for McCarthy’s Emmy-winning performance.

Sin City (2005)

Based on the comic book series of the same name, Sin City is a noirish, action-filled crime drama that just so happens to feature Alexis Bledel as a…well, not entirely trustworthy participant in the rampant criminal shenanigans that abound in the sinful city of the title.

The John Larroquette Show (1993-1996)

One of the very few series to take place in St. Louis, Missouri, The John Larroquette Show was a sitcom that saw the actor portray the night manager of a run-down downtown bus station, with Liz Torres, who played the bubbly and gossipy dance teacher Miss Patty on Gilmore Girls, as his secretary. Torres received two Emmy nominations for her work here, so it’s definitely worth a watch.

The Resident (2018-2023)

Considering the number of medical shows that tend to fill the airwaves, it’s a bit of a surprise that it’s taken this long to get to one, but it is a pretty fine one. The Resident stars Matt Czuchry as the conceited (but still somehow charming) Dr. Conrad Hawkins, a third-year resident who practices with unconventional techniques and a knowledge of the business of medicine who’s determined to stop younger residents from putting their chosen profession on a pedestal.

All In The Family (1971-1978)

If you haven’t yet watched the classic ‘70s sitcom, All In the Family, you’re missing out. Not only does the Norman Lear series use its humor to tackle a number of hot-button issues that are still very relevant for today’s audiences, but it also features Sally Struthers (she was Lorelei and Rory’s nosy neighbor in Stars Hollow, Babette) in her Emmy-winning role as Gloria, the somewhat childish, college-aged daughter of Archie and Edith Bunker.

Walker (2021-2024)

After his immensely successful run on Supernatural, Jared Padalecki moved right on to yet another show on The CW. This one, Walker, was a reimagining of the long-running Chuck Norris hit Walker, Texas Ranger, which saw Padalecki take on the lead role as he returned home after being undercover for two years while trying to reconnect with his teenage children and figure out how his wife really died.

True Blood (2008-2014)

Here’s one that’s easy to miss, even if you’re a die-hard Gilmore Girls fan. Among the many characters, human and supernatural, who populated the HBO vampire series True Blood for seven seasons, you see plenty of Merlotte's Bar & Grill short order cook, the kind but troubled Terry Bellefleur. But, did you know that he’s portrayed by Todd Lowe, the same guy who brought us Hep Alien’s dim, womanizing, guitar-playing, lead-singing wanna-be rock star Zack Van Gerbig? Well, now you do!

Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)

Melissa MacCarthy was able to hit the Academy Awards red carpet as a nominee again when she starred in the biographical film Can You Ever Forgive Me? As writer Lee Israel. It’s based on Israel’s memoir of the same name, where she talks about her attempt to revive her writing career by forging letters from deceased celebrities and selling them. This critically acclaimed drama is one not to miss.

Spy (2015)

Last, but not least, we have another of Melissa McCarthy’s winning comedies in Spy. The movie follows CIA employee Susan Cooper, who is only allowed to assist her James Bond-esque partner via a desk job at the home office and an earpiece. But, when an operation goes wrong and leads to her partner’s death, Susan volunteers to go into the field and get to the bottom of things. Seeing as how this is a McCarthy film, you can bet that the situation gets hilariously out of hand before all is said and done, and you’ll be better for it!

As you can clearly see, while Gilmore Girls has been off the air for nearly 20 years, not only has it not been forgotten, but its stars have continued to keep us entertained in a number of other TV shows and movies, and hopefully will for many years to come!

Among the many shows ending or canceled in 2024 is the CBS sitcom Bob Hearts Abishola. The series, starring Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku as the titular characters, premiered in 2019. Now, the series finale is set to air on May 6, and Gardell wants it to be like fellow CBS sitcom Mike & Molly.

Before portraying Bob Wheeler, Gardell portrayed the titular Officer Mike Biggs for six seasons on Mike & Molly. That series ended with Mike and Molly adopting a baby and reflecting on their life and the events that brought them to that happy moment. It was very satisfying. Now, with Bob Hearts Abishola wrapping up and even jumping ahead seven years, Gardell told TV Insider how he would want the series to end, and it makes complete sense:

One can only hope that a series finale satisfying, but there have been some bad finales in the past. However, the good thing is CBS gave the show one final season instead of just straight canceling it last year, meaning the network cared about giving Bob Hearts Abishola a proper ending. With the finale doing a bit of a time jump, it’s hard to tell how things will go, but since Gardell has experience with satisfying endings, hopefully, Bob Hearts Abishola will add to that.

Even though the hope for a satisfying ending is high, I was nervous because of the confusing final season premiere. After Bob Hearts Abishola had major cuts to its cast in the series, the premiere didn’t explain why most characters would be seen less, as the sitcom previously had 13 series regulars instead of just two. Due to the dual Hollywood strikes that caused shortened seasons for most shows, it’s likely that this one didn’t have time to explain. However, it has been disappointing that most characters haven’t gotten as much screen time for the final season, and it’s unclear if the finale will make up for it. 

It's hard to tell how the series finale of Bob Hearts Abishola will go, especially since there are so many more stories to tell. There aren’t too many details for the episode “Find Your Bench,” but per CBS, the synopsis reads, “Seven years from now, a lot has changed for Bob, Abishola and their friends and family as they reflect on how far they’ve come and consider what’s most important to them as they head into the future.”

At the very least, it sounds like it will conclude many stories for the characters and perhaps even leave some doors open. Whatever happens, it’s likely the finale will be bittersweet, and fans will just have to tune in on Monday, May 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS on the 2024 TV schedule to see how Bob Hearts Abishola wraps up. 

When shows end, it's always pretty emotional for fans but also the cast and crew that poured their hearts into each individual series. It's even harder when a TV show has been on the air for a long time, as happened when Mike & Molly was canceled by CBS last season. Series lead Billy Gardell explained what happened on the set while the team was filming the last episode of the sitcom, which ran for six seasons on CBS. Here's what he had to say.

It's nice to hear the Mike & Molly cast was so close-knit. Not every show is like that. Some sets are rife with drama the entire time they are on the air. Sometimes the leads of popular TV shows dislike one another, as reportedly happened on The Good Wife. However, the Mike & Molly cast wasn't like that. They were attending events for other projects just to support one another for chrissakes. Many of us wouldn't do that for our co-workers, but the Mike & Molly cast did.

Although the Mike & Molly cast was told in advance that the series was being canceled, it was still a tough thing, especially considering how CBS had handled the show leading up to its cancelation. Mike & Molly was kept off of the schedule in the fall a couple of times and then shuffled around to fill in space after other shows on the network got canceled. It wasn't an ideal situation, but the show kept chugging along into its sixth season. Billy Gardell told the Herald Tribune that it was ultimately CBS that decided it had shuffled the show around enough and decided to throw in the towel, although the cast never learned why. Said Gardell:

Mike & Molly was never a stellar performer on CBS, but it was a solid performer for the Eye Network. However, because the contracts for most of the actors ran out at midseason last year, CBS was forced to make a decision earlier than normal about whether or not they wanted more episodes of the comedy. Because many of the actors involved with the series were already busy with other projects and because CBS was unsure if they could sign everyone back on if they waited until May to make a decision, the network ultimately ended up just canceling the comedy.

Obviously, CBS still has a bunch of other high-profile TV shows. This season the network signed on Bull and MacGyver, which kept CBS veterans Michael Weatherly and George Eads in the family. Still, the lineup is surely missing the family-friendly comedy that brought Melissa McCarthy and co. into our homes every week. Doubtless, the cast still misses the series a little, too.

It's a weird time of the year for the movies. None of the big holiday blockbusters have come out in recent months and none of the big awards nominees have started being released, either. Despite this, there are some great home entertainment releases coming this month, from the surprise hit The Purge: Election Year to the latest in the X-Men franchise, Apocalypse. There's plenty of good stuff coming this month and you can check it all out below, complete with pictures, because pictures are super fun.

X-Men Apocalypse Blu-ray Review

X-Men: Apocalypse marks the sixth film in the franchise's main canon, and completes the First Class trilogy. Set in the delightfully tacky 1980's, Apocalypse follows Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) as they attempt to stop Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) from destroying the world. Additionally, they attempt to bring a crestfallen and superpowered Magneto (Michael Fassbender) back to reality after he joins the forces of evil... again. The film also introduces young version of popular franchise favorites like Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp), who will likely appear in future installments. The film itself is worth a watch, but so are the X-tras (and yes, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment calls them that.) Skip the "Wrap Party" segment, but be sure to check out the deleted scenes with optional audio commentary. The Purge: Election Year Blu-ray Review

Successful horror franchises are usually spawned from premises that have long shelf lives, meaning there are plenty of different types of stories that can be told in the specific world of the horror franchise. The Purge: Election Year looks at the annual purge from a political perspective, introducing us a to a senator named Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), who desperately wants to bring people back together, and her head of security Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo), who desperately wants to keep the senator safe. After they are betrayed in James DeMonaco's film, they are forced into the streets, where they are saved by a ragtag group of heroes, including Joe (Mykelti Williamson), Laney (Betty Gabriel) and Marcos (Joseph Julian Soria). The Purge is even more surreally violent than other movies in the franchises, although the shock value has worn off somewhat for the third film. Extras include deleted scenes that help to explain why Joe and Marcos left the rooftop and more. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's set also comes with a behind-the-scenes look at the actor's and director's processes, which features footage of how that shot of the angry school girl meeting an armed car was accomplished. Ghostbusters Blu-ray Review

Paul Feig's female-led blockbuster Ghostbusters received a lot of press leading into its release, and while this remake may not be a classic like the original, it's still a fun-- and funny--ride. While Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy bring some acting chops to the new film as former best friends, Erin and Abby. it's Kate McKinnon who steals a lot the scenes here, keeping us in stitches with Jillian Hortzman's zany antics and Leslie Jones adds a little flair as streetwise subway worker Patty who encounters a ghost. Chris Hemsworth also has some goofy scenes, joining the team as a really dumb secretary named Kevin. The movie itself nods back to the original franchise in ways that mostly feel organic as the quartet of ladies tackle ghosts in subways, at rock concerts and all throughout the city.

The Sony Pictures Home Entertainment set comes with both the theatrical and extended editions, the latter of which adds an extra 15 minutes to the film. One additional scene even features Weeds actor Justin Kirk as Erin's sort-of boyfriend, which is pretty amusing. A proliferation of bonus features also come with the set, including not one but two gag reels. If you download the Ultraviolet copy, that's where the real fun is at. Presumably to push the Digital service, Ghostbusters comes with an additional hour of extended and alternate scenes---which makes sense, as the original cut of the film was reportedly 3.5 hours. The Legend Of Tarzan Blu-ray Review

There have been a slew of animated and non-animated versions of Tarzan over the years, but The Legend of Tarzan takes a step in a different direction, kicking off with Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgard) already married to Jane (Margot Robbie) and living in London. Tarzan---now going by John---ends up getting involved in a trip to Africa after George Washington Williams (Samuel L. Jackson) presents evidence of tribes becoming enslaved. Jane tags along on the trip, and the two end up going on an adventure to save the day. The plot's not super innovative, but it is fun and romantic. I'm just saying, there are worst ways to spend a couple of hours than watching two extremely attractive individuals run around the jungle and take down the bad guys. Now you can even do it from the comfort of your home, with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Blu-ray set. Buyers will get a DVD and Digital copy with their purchase, as well as a few bonus features. The latter are nothing to write home about, but if you like Digital sets, you may enjoy "Creating the Virtual Jungle." You can check out your own copy here.

Alice Through The Looking Glass Blu-ray Review

Alice Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to the wildly successful Alice in Wonderland, had a decent box office run, but didn't reach the great heights the original was able to bring in. Despite the lengthy time between the first and second movie in the franchise, Alice Through The Looking Glass' premise works, picking up some years into the future, when Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns from the high seas to discover her former fiancée is attempting to take over her father's ship. Alice runs into Absolem (Alan Rickman) and finds a way back into Wonderland, where she meets an even stranger Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and decides to steal a time traveling device from Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) to help her old friend get his mojo back.

Director James Bobin faced the added challenge of having to change the story from Louis Carroll's original novel, as the first movie actually introduced characters from the second book. Regardless, it all worked out, as Alice Through the Looking Glass is a solid and enchanting-looking adventure story for the whole family. Walt Disney Home Entertainment's set comes with a few extras, along with a DVD and Digital copy. Probably the most unique bonus feature on the disc is "Alice Goes Through Time's Castle: A Scene Peeler," which features an introduction to certain scenes and then a side-by-side comparison of Ma Wasikowska filming a key scene on green screen on the left and full animation on the right. Spoilers for Mike & Molly’s series finale are below.

Months before Season 6 finally made it to the airwaves, Mike & Molly slipped beneath a dark shadow as CBS’ interest in the show waned enough to chop the episode order and later cancel it in secret long before coming clean about the decision. But none of that behind-the-curtain drama was inferred from the two-part series finale, which ended on a surprising sitcommy twist that was unsurprisingly happy and heartwarming: the titular couple are parents, with a second child on the way!

Throughout its run, Mike & Molly has focused on Mike and Molly coming to grips with a multitude of different changes together, with the one change they actively sought out – having a child –eluding them. Viewers have seen their recent efforts to acquire a child through adoption go successfully, and it all came to a crowning head in the last episode, “I See Love,” when it was revealed that the mother of their to-be adopted baby was going into labor three weeks early. Nothing like a life-changing shocker to put some fire beneath everyone’s bottoms, and things got a little too heated between family members inside the hospital in front of Vernee Watson’s adoption rep. Of course, it all calmed down (where that was concerned, anyway) and after Mike made a quick dash around the halls, the world was introduced to the newest addition to the family, who definitely will not be called or nicknamed Blanche. (His name is William.)

But we didn’t even get to react properly to this super-fresh infant’s face before the audience started howling with the tearful admission that Molly is now pregnant. (Which was followed soon by Mike’s realization that another car seat catastrophe in coming.) She’d been nauseous earlier in the day and so Molly got a pregnancy test while waiting for her first child to be birthed, which turned out to be just as positive as these kids’ chances of being raised in a happy household. I mean, sure, it’s saccharine and feel-goody and all that, but when a show can realistically go out on an “I love you,” a kiss and a song to a newborn, why should it want to shoot for anything else?

Even though Mike & Molly had to end for whatever reason, at least the creative team decided to exit on a great and life-affirming note. And you know how things go these days. It’s entirely possible that Netflix will expand its relationship with Gilmore Girls’ Melissa McCarthy by later ordering up a four-part revival series where we see what Mike and Molly are like as parents in a few years.

Tonight will see the return of the sixth and final season of the hit sitcom Mike & Molly, which hasn’t had a new episode on CBS since February 10. That means we’ll be watching the series finale in less than a month, and star Billy Gardell is getting audiences pumped up by saying that this is one of the best episodes of the entire series. Here’s what he said viewers can expect when the finale airs.

Like the best CBS comedies, Mike & Molly has an emotional core that sometimes usurps the laughter for something that tugs on the heartstrings. The way Billy Gardell is talking, we might want to reinforce those strings before the finale, as he also told TV Guide that there were “a lot of watery eyes” among the cast and crew. And that crew included the iconic TV director James Burrows, who filmed the first two seasons, and his presence definitely added to the proceedings as well.

While Gardell wasn’t very specific in talking about what kind of beautiful closure will come to the sitcom’s titular couple, a quick look at the episode titles just might offer up some info. With titles like “The Adoption Option” and “I See Love,” it seems likely that the loving couple could end things with some very good news indeed about the possibility of adding to their family. I almost want to start tearing up just thinking about Melissa McCarthy’s face as Molly gets positive news regarding an adoption, but I’ll have to keep my emotions locked down for the moment, since we don’t actually know if that’ll happen or not.

It is indeed good to hear good things coming from the world of Mike & Molly, considering almost everything that was announced after Season 5 ended has been negative. For one, CBS decided to chop Season 6 down to 13 episodes, pushing it back into the midseason premiere slot instead of its usual fall debut. News of the show’s cancellation then came out – though CBS decided to wait ages before finally confirming it – with some blaming money and others blaming contractual arrangements for the show’s untimely downfall. The best part about the early cancellation was that the creative team could craft the series finale they really wanted, and Billy Gardell makes it sound like they used their time wisely.

Starting on Monday, May 2, Mike & Molly will air back-to-back episodes, with the finale episode airing on Monday, May 16.

It’s been a rough year for fans of CBS’ Mike & Molly. Scheduling switcheroos were bad enough, but the show’s ultimate cancellation had to be downright painful considering the consistently hilarious comedy stylings brought by stars Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy. Luckily, Gardell isn’t going to be off the small screen for long, and he’s landed a major role in CMT’s upcoming scripted series Million Dollar Quartet.

Unlike Mike & Molly, Million Dollar Quartet won’t be a comedy. Billy Gardell will be stretching his dramatic muscles, according to Deadline. The project is inspired by the Broadway musical of the same name and will air eight episodes. The musical itself was based on the true story of four young and iconic musicians coming together and combining dissonant styles of hillbilly country with R&B. Given that the foursome of musicians was comprised of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis, we can probably count on some fantastic tunes in the project. It will be set in Memphis and take place in the era of the beginning of the civil rights movement. The timing of the project has been set to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the real-life quartet.

Billy Gardell won’t be playing one of the four musicians. Instead, he’ll tackle the role of Tom Parker, the notorious manager of Elvis Presley known as “the Colonel.” Born in the Netherlands, Parker made his mark in the United States when he used Presley’s trust in him to take more than a manager's traditional share of the singer’s earnings. In fact, Parker was so ruthless over the years that he was taking up to half of The King's money by the time of Presley’s death. All in all, it’s safe to say that the Colonel will be a far cry from Mike.

Gardell joins a large cast, led by Chad Michael Murray in the role of Sun Records founder Sam Philips. Three of the four actors playing the famous musicians have already been confirmed as well, with Drake Milligan as Elvis, Kevin Fonteyne as Johnny Cash, and Christian Lees as Jerry Lee Lewis. It should be interesting to see how Billy Gardell and Drake Milligan play off one another as manager and singer.

I'm also intrigued to see how Gardell handles a dramatic role. He’s proven himself quite versatile with all types of comedy, ranging from his beloved part as Mike on Mike & Molly to host of Monopoly Millionaires Club to his career as a standup comic. Hopefully, he’ll be able to translate that comedic versatility into an unforgettable dramatic performance. Who knows? Maybe the eight episodes of Million Dollar Quartet will see Billy Gardell beginning a long career of drama.

Given that the project is still casting and Million Dollar Quartet is technically only a working title, we’re still a ways off from seeing Gardell in the role of Tom Parker. In the meantime, we can tune in to the final run of Mike & Molly episodes on CBS. The series comes back for the rest of its sixth and final season on April 25. For the past month, we’ve known that our time with Mike & Molly would be limited to the entirety of Season 6, which will be its last. But instead of learning that bit of bad news from CBS, the network in charge of the show, it came from the show’s stars themselves. Now, CBS has decided to come out of the shadows to let everyone in on it by formally announcing that Mike & Molly has been canceled. It’s nothing if not timely.

Perhaps there were those still out there holding out hope that CBS would listen to pleas on social media for the sitcom to get renewed for another year. After all, when an announcement as big as that gets leaked, a network is usually quick to either confirm or deny the claims. That wasn’t the case here, though CBS’ entertainment president Glenn Geller probably had the biggest audience possible, as he legitimized the show’s doomed fate at this year’s TV Critics Association’s winter press tour, according to THR.

Admittedly, news of the show getting axed wasn’t all that surprising when it came out. After all, CBS shifted Mike & Molly in the schedule, cutting its episode order and pushing it out as midseason programming. Not a lot of shows get demoted and then get renewed for more seasons, but it would have been a reasonable way to keep it on the air if money issues were part of the reasoning behind canceling the sitcom.

Though Melissa McCarthy claimed she would love to continue working on the show for years, the stars’ contracts are up this year, and Melissa McCarthy’s A-list fame on the big screen would likely have inspired a case for more money. Even with Billy Gardell not rocketing to the celebrity stratosphere, CBS execs still probably didn’t think it was worth it. Mike & Molly drew good ratings, even though they’ve dipped as the years went by, but other CBS shows have the kind of massive audiences that make shows with “good” ratings expendable.

Mike & Molly’s exit will be the second Chuck Lorre show to bid farewell to CBS in two years, with Two and a Half Men coming to an end last year. The network could also be putting CSI: Cyber out to pasture now that Ted Danson has found a new show, and The Good Wife’s creators and showrunners Robert and Michelle King are leaving the show after Season 7, which doesn’t bode so well for that show’s future.

As each new year begins, death knells toll for great TV series across all networks. (Not dramatic in the least.) 2016 is no different, and while we’ve just gotten used to all of the shows that ended last year, we have to readjust and get ready to say goodbye to so many of our favorite characters and other assorted personalities.

While more are certain to be announced as the months go by, here are 9 great shows that we already know are coming to an end in 2016, from comedies to dramas and everything in between. Let’s kick things off with one of those in between entries.

Mythbusters

Love means never having to say you’re sorry, and loving Mythbusters means not being able to hear anyone say “sorry” or anything else because there are too many explosions happening all around. As proof, the next episode is titled “The Explosion Special.” It was announced a couple of months ago that Season 15 would be the final one, and although it’s depressing that we’ll no longer be able to watch Jamie and Adam putting themselves in ridiculous situations in the name of science and entertainment, at least we got to watch them do it for over 250 episodes, which is nothing to sneeze at. (Incidentally, sneezing myths were tackled in Episodes 84, 147 and 153.)

Downton Abbey

Even though everyone across the pond in the U.K. has already experienced the tearful ending of the period drama Downton Abbey, the show’s rabid fanbase here in the U.S. is just getting started with Season 6, which premiered on PBS on January 3. After all these years of watching the upstairs/downstairs drama of the families at the show’s core, we’re hoping that creator Julian Fellowes pulls out all the stops in delivering a satisfying and memorable final arc for everyone, even if it involves scandals, tragedies, and illicit instances behind closed doors. Wait, I meant to say especially if it involves those things.

Mike & Molly

When CBS gets its teeth into a hit series, the network often won’t let up for many years, which helps to keep their massive audience pleased. Unfortunately, the Melissa McCarthy sitcom Mike & Molly didn’t have as good a run as other comedies, and the network decided to pull the plug after already halving and delaying Season 6. While we may not know any exact reasons for its cancellation, we do know that viewers will have 13 more evenings to spend with the titular couple and their family and friends, and it all starts this week.

American Idol

Once one of the most popular shows on TV, American Idol is now a shadow of what it was when it began back in 2002, whether you’re talking about the judges, the ratings or arguably even how memorable the contestants are. Part of that is because a plethora of other singing competitions came in the wake of its success, which has create a reality fatigue. But you can bet that fans will be tuning into the Season 15 in droves, not only to see who will become the final American Idol victor, but also to see faces from the past returning as the season goes on. Not to mention the final batch of calamity-filled auditions.

Beauty and the Beast

The latest incarnation of the classic fairy tale, The CW’s version of Beauty &the Beast had more in common with the 1980s TV show than anything Disney, with its titular beauty (Kristin Kreuk’s Cat Chandler) working for the NYPD and dedicating her time to figuring out her mother’s murder, as well as building a relationship with the once-thought-dead soldier Vincent Keller. Beauty & the Beast has been plagued with problems at The CW, with Season 2 interrupted by a months-long hiatus and Season 3 delayed until almost an entire year after Season 2 concluded. It was almost a stroke of luck that the show was renewed for Season 4, although no release date has been set yet, which isn’t exactly a confidence booster.

Banshee

The modern TV schedule is filled with shows that do action scenes well, but the majority of them bow down in reverence to Cinemax’s Banshee, a show so under-watched that it should count as one of the myriad crimes committed on the show. Featuring characters that never fail to entertain and stunning fights that get the blood boiling, Banshee received a cancellation that came coupled with the Season 4 order, which will sadly have two fewer episodes than the previous three seasons. There is little doubt that this final batch of episodes will ooze intensity, and will likely leave plenty of bodies on the ground by the time the last episode is over.

The Leftovers

Following a Season 1 that was darker than the deepest corners of space, The Leftovers delivered a sophomore effort that retained all of the existential angst and mystery, while also introducing an endlessly interesting new location full of distinct characters and expanding a narrative that puts loss and insanity into a blender fueled by repressed emotions. How Damon Lindelof can possibly top that for the upcoming Season 3, I have no idea, but the third and final chapter of this layered drama will presumably reach a conclusion that leaves audiences bewildered and yet surprisingly content.

Bitten

Fans of the horror fantasy Bitten have gone through a pretty tumultuous year, at least as far as things can get tumultuous for fans of TV shows. Season 2 broadened the story of female werewolf Elena as her own mission was coupled with the introduction of a coven of witches on a mission to save one of their own from a mysterious threat named Aleister, and it was followed by a renewal for Season 3. Unfortunately, it was announced months later that this would be the show’s final season, so viewers had better soak up all the hairy mayhem they can handle when it hits Syfy later this year.

Gravity Falls

It’s admittedly not often that the final episodes of an animated series are worthy of widespread attention, but then few animated series are as fun and imaginative and universally enjoyable as Disney’s Gravity Falls. A show that makes the Pacific Northwest as delightfully strange as Twin Peaks – at least to a certain degree –Gravity Falls puts its characters into oddball situations and quests involving monsters, time travel, magic and the mysterious journal at the center of it all. Though it premiered back in the summer of 2012, the acclaimed series only has two 20-episode seasons, with episodes being released seemingly randomly. Sadly, all that’s left is the series finale, the final entry in a three-part storyline.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for fans of CBS’ Mike & Molly. The news that the reasonably successful comedy would be cancelled at the end of a shortened Season 6 came as a surprise to many. There have been plenty of theories about what exactly went into the decision not to renew for a seventh season, but sitcom writer extraordinaire Ken Levine, of Cheers and Frasier fame, has a few of ideas of his own. The biggest happens to be the simplest, as he hypothesizes that Mike & Molly simply fell victim to budget concerns.

The future of Mike & Molly coming down to dollar signs and decimal points is a shame, but not altogether surprising. Levine notes elsewhere in his blog that star Melissa McCarthy’s rise to film stardom had not brought about a similar rise in the ratings. Paying a movie star salary for a show not bringing in particularly impressive numbers would be something of a gamble for CBS. Of course, Melissa McCarthy’s tweet regarding the cancellation gives the impression that she was not angling to make some major demands in her new contract, but there’s no denying that she’d have grounds to expect a pay raise.

Levine also notes that Mike & Molly is not actually owned by CBS. Rather, it’s a Warner Brothers show. CBS has nothing to gain in the long term by investing much time and money in the series. Mike & Molly’s reasonable ratings evidently just aren’t enough for CBS to justify bringing it back for Season 7.

This wouldn’t be the first time that CBS prioritized other shows over Mike & Molly. The past three years have seen the network bumping the sitcom from a fall premiere, and the sixth season’s original order of 22 episodes had already been cut down to 13 prior to news of the cancellation. The lack of a consistent time slot certainly could have taken a toll on the ratings, but it’s impossible to say if Mike & Molly could have ever achieved the numbers for CBS to want to bring it back for another season.

Disheartening as Mike & Molly news has been lately, at least fans have the 13 remaining episodes of Season 6 to look forward to. The winter 2016 premiere will air on Wednesday, January 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Mike & Molly has been a solid performer on CBS for years and years now, but over the past few seasons the network has had trouble finding a slot in its cluttered schedule for the Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell comedy series. While CBS hasn't officially announced Mike & Molly is ending after the upcoming sixth season airs, the cast and crew have already announced the show is over, and now we know the real reason the long-running series got the axe. It's pretty complex, but it has to do with Mike & Molly being a Warner Bros.-owned comedy and the contracts on the show running out.

In short, the contracts for most people involved with Mike & Molly run out on February 1st. Since the show was pushed to mid-season and won't premiere until January, however, a decision on whether or not to renew the show won't take place until after that date. Because of this, cast members will be free to start pursuing their own projects, which will create a ton of uncertainty. So, rather than create the potential of the show returning with less cast members or create the potential of _Mike & Molly_spending this season setting up more episodes that will never happen, Chuck Lorre and company decided to cut their losses and treat Season 6 like the final year. That way the show will go out on its own terms with a proper goodbye.

Deadline reports that there have been problems with finding a slot for the show for a while. This fall marked the third year in a row that CBS opted to keep Mike & Molly off of the network's fall TV schedule. This year, instead of simply premiering late, CBS also took the show's full, 22-episode order and chopped it down to only 13 episodes. That already was bad enough news, so to find out the series is basically cancelled and the cast and crew are already looking to take on new TV---and in Melissa McCarthy's case, movie---roles, just adds an extra layer of suck.

We first learned Mike & Molly was on the way out the door just a few days ago, when series actress Roni Reed, who plays Peggy, made the announcement on social media, also noting she wasn't even sure if all of the episodes would air. Melissa McCarthy later followed up, confirming she had been told the show was over, although in her case losing the series shouldn't be as big of a deal, as she is in demand for movie roles. While CBS hasn't said Mike & Molly will be ending after this season, it's a pretty done deal.

A very similar thing happened with the CW's Hart of Dixie last season, and that show was also confirmed to be cancelled down the line. On the bright side, when cancellations get announced like this, at least show's have enough time to shoot a finale they can be proud of.

With some exceptions involving some truly awful shows, it’s never a great thing to hear about a TV series getting canceled. It was a bad weekend (relatively) for millions of Mike & Molly fans, as the news broke that CBS was cancelling the hit sitcom following its upcoming Season 6. And if you thought lead actress Melissa McCarthy was taking it a lot better than you, know that she isn’t. Here’s how she’s feeling about it.

That’s about what we’d expect, especially from one-half of the show’s main duo. I can’t imagine that anyone involved with the sitcom heard about the somewhat sudden cancelation and said they fully expected it and that it made them happy as all hell. There’s no doubting that Mike & Molly took some ratings dips in the past two seasons, but the show still brings in an average of over 9 million viewers, which would be dream numbers for so many other non-CBS shows out there. Especially comedies.

McCarthy shared her thoughts on Twitter, which is the same place her co-star Billy Gardell seemingly announced the show’s cancelation almost two weeks ago, as seen below. Maybe everyone has just been in denial over it.

We’re over here hoping that McCarthy’s “would have shot this show for 50 years” comment doesn’t just apply to Mike & Molly, but to all of her former projects. No one is expecting Samantha Who? to make a comeback anytime soon, but Gilmore Girls is definitely being brought back as a limited Netflix series. Work is already happening behind the scenes, and fans know that the front of the scenes won’t be the same without McCarthy’s Sookie St. James there. Perhaps she’ll have a little more free time now to make that happen.

Mike & Molly will return to CBS for its shortened Season 6 on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Until then, we’ll be planning a way to keep Swoozie Kurtz in our lives on a weekly basis in the future.

Bad news for Mike & Molly fans. It looks like uncertain status of the CBS sitcom finally has an answer- and it’s not a good one. Co-star Roni Reed, who plays the character of Mike’s mother Peggy just let the cat out of the bag in a facebook post. In her statement she said:

Well there’s that. It seems like Roni Reed is feeling particularly salty about the cancellation, which I can certainly understand. Afterall, CBS did announce that the sitcom would be renewed so it’s pretty crazy that they would renege on that a few months later. Mike & Molly presumably has a rather large fan base; it’s been on for quite a long time and stars one of the most famous and hilarious comedians of our time, Melissa McCarthy.

Mike & Molly first aired in 2010 and has done rather well in regards to its reception. Indeed, Melissa McCarthy won a Primetime Emmy in 2010 for best leading actress in a comedy, and would go on to be nominated for the next few years, as well. Mike & Molly has also maintained a fairly decent Rotten Tomatoes score which isn’t always easy to maintain after the first few seasons. In fact, it’s currently at 63%, although earlier seasons ranked higher.

So what does this cancellation mean? I think it's implicated a few things- particularly related to Melissa McCarthy’s career. McCarthy has been on a rampage of successful comedy films which I can only assume will increase now that her schedule is more flexible. Her catapult to movie star status, including an Academy Award Nomination, came from her work in Bridesmaids alongside Kristen Wiig. McCarthy has only continued to collaborate with Bridesmaids director Paul Feig in his next few projects, which will include her starring role in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot.

Mike & Molly’s cancellation might also mean exciting things for the Gilmore Girls reboot which that be coming to Netflix. Gilmore Girls was one of Melissa McCarthy’s first major acting roles- she played main character Sookie St. James for the entirety of Gilmore Girls’ run. Indeed, her involvement in the reboot has been the most speculated due to her schedule, so maybe this is exactly what she needed in order to get back to her roots.

Regardless, it’s a sad day for Mike & Molly fans for sure. However, they can rest assured that Melissa McCarthy isn’t going anywhere any time soon. We just might have to look somewhere besides CBS to find her.

TV shows get banned (or almost get banned) for a variety of reasons, most oftentimes related to the social and political climates of the day. Sometimes episodes never make it to the air or are subsequently kept from airing, and other times episodes are banned following a life-altering news event, only to air later after people have calmed down about the topic. Years later, the whole thing often seems a little overblown in retrospect, but in the moment, the controversy is almost always heightened.

We’re brought you some great banned TV posters, and now we’ve put together a list of the greatest banned TV episodes of all time. From comedies like South Park to memorable dramas like The X-Files, shows are yanked way more often than you would think. These are the best of the best.

The X-Files, “Home”

We decided to kick off this list with one of the most iconic TV episodes of all time, an episode that actually did make it to the air on Fox, becoming the first TV episode to earn a TV-MA rating. However, it’s sticky topic, which followed a family that was inbreeding and murdering, was subsequently banned from airing on network television. Eventually, it was later re-aired on Fox’s sister network, FX. Thank goodness for marathons, right?

Family Guy, "Partial Terms of Endearment"

During Family Guy’s eighth season, Danny Smith wrote an episode that heavily focused on abortion. During the episode, Lois agreed to carry a baby for a couple of friends, but after they are killed in a car crash, she and Peter have to decide whether or not to take the baby to term or not. Fox is willing to get a little edgy, but abortion is a bit too outside-the-box for network standards and Fox pulled the episode, over concerns over the episode’s portrayal of a controversial subject. Don’t worry, though, you can find the episode on the Season 8 DVD.

Hannibal, “Œuf"

Hannibal has made a name for itself as a cinematographic and bold series about serial killers and the cat and mouse chase the authorities often have with them. However, in the wake of the Boston Marathon Bombings, NBC decided to pull an episode of its edgiest series, called “Œuf.” Molly Shannon was expected to guest star as a woman who teaches children to kill other children. Though the episode didn't air, it was later available on iTunes and the Hannibal Season 1 Blu-ray.

South Park, "201"

This infamous two-part episode actually did air on Comedy Central, but the second half, “201,” went through some major changes before it was actually banned from digital streaming platforms. It has also not ever been aired in repeats, having officially been shelved by parent network Comedy Central. The episode pokes fun at Tom Cruise, along with various religions and includes a slew of mentions of Muhammad, all of which were bleeped when the episode first aired. Like so many of these banned, pulled and otherwise affected episodes, “201”available on the Season 14 DVD—although only the censored version is available.

Sesame Street, "Episode 847"

Way back in 1976, the unlikely Sesame Street actually was host to a controversial episode, this one featuring Margaret Hamilton reprising her role as the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. After the episode aired, complaints from the parents of “terrified” children were made, and while test studies seemed to prove that children weren't scared during the episode, the Children’s Television Workshop effectively made sure the episode didn't air again.

Hawaii Five-0, "Bored, She Hung Herself"

Hawaii Five-0 currently airs in a new amalgamation on CBS, but back when the original series was airing, CBS aired a segment of the series called “Bored, She Hung Herself,” an episode which was later shelved so it couldn’t appear on subsequent DVD releases or in syndication. The episode featured a character who knew a trick for hanging himself without dying, and who later became a murder suspect. Apparently, someone attempted the trick after seeing the episode and it came back to CBS, who buried the ep, at least according to the wife of Hawaii Five-0’s creator.

Mike & Molly, "Windy City"

Mike & Molly isn’t exactly the type of show that incites a lot of controversy. However, an episode of the series was briefly banned thanks to inclement weather. Here’s what happened. A couple of years ago, after tornadoes tore through Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois and Iowa, Mike & Molly had an ill-timed episode set to air, also about tornadoes. CBS banned the episode, but later rescheduled it, when emotions related to tornadoes were not running so high.

Boy Meets World "Promises, Promises"

Do you remember a high school episode of Boy Meets World during which the guys and gals went to prom and Cory almost got lucky with Topanga? Probably not if you watched the show when it aired repeats on the Disney Channel. It’s one of three episodes of Boy Meets World that never made it into syndication on Disney, thanks to dealing with more controversial topics. A couple of others also didn’t make it to the channel, including episodes dealing with drinking and more.

American Dad, "Minstrel Krampus"

American Dad’s Minstrel Krampus is another episode that got pulled following some harrowing events occurring in the United States. After the Sandy Hook shootings occurred, Fox decided to pull “Minstrel Krampus,” along with the new Family Guy episode airing that night, out of sensitivity for the families of the victims. The episode ended up airing on Fox nearly a year later.

Seinfeld, "The Puerto Rican Day"

We all know about the Seinfeld gun-related episode that didn’t even get made, but there’s another episode that has had a tumultuous history. “The Puerto Rican Day” features the klutzy Kramer accidentally lighting a Puerto Rican flag on fire. He subsequently stomps on the flag, to the ire of many. After the initial airing, NBC banned the episode, but has since occasionally been available with the flag sequence intact.

CBS passed along some good news for more than a dozen of their primetime shows. 18 series received renewals from the Eye today, among which are The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, NCIS, and newcomer Elementary. CBS is also moving forward with three of their popular reality series, Survivor, The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss.

On the drama side of the renewals, in addition to Elementary, which is this season's most-watched new program, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist and Hawaii Five-0 have secured themselves another run at the network. Below is the full list of eighteen scripted and unscripted shows set to return for the 2013-2014 season.

Note, Two and a Half Men isn't on the list. CBS points out that they're still in discussions with Warner Bros. Television regarding another season of the comedy. So the fate of that one remains uncertain for the time being. The same might be said for Golden Boy and Rules of Engagement, which were also left off the list (and not mentioned in CBS' announcement). The above renewals come ahead of the up fronts this spring, which isn't out of the ordinary for CBS. In fact, the above list looks a lot like last year's list of renewals, which indicates that things are pretty status quo for the network. That's good news for the many fans of their series, who can now enjoy what's left of the above listed shows this season, knowing they'll be back next season.

While Sandy may be making her way up the East Coast at the moment, CBS is making sure the hurricane doesn't cause their East Coast viewers to miss their Monday night line-up. The network has decided to air reruns tonight, rather than the previously scheduled new episodes of their comedies and Hawaii Five-0.

CBS originally had new episodes of How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Partners, Mike & Molly and Hawaii Five-0 set to air tonight during their three-hour primetime block, however due to the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, who from what I hear, has already knocked down trees and caused power outages in some areas, the network has opted to show reruns tonight. EW confirmed this, stating that CBS is pushing the schedule off by one week due to the storm. The CW is doing the same, with 90210 and Gossip Girl tonight, so those hoping to catch new episodes of the network's dramas will either be disappointed (if they have power and functioning cable) or relieved to know they haven't missed anything, if they're among those without power.

ABC is set to air a new episode of Castle and presumably Dancing with the Stars as scheduled. We haven't heard of any scheduling changes from NBC so unless we post an update stating otherwise, a new episode of The Voice and Revolution will air as planned.

It's annoying when weather causes changes to the TV schedule, but given the varying degrees of devastation a hurricane can cause, we can only hope that a bit of primetime rescheduling is the worst inconvenience people experience while this storm passes through. To all those in Sandy's path, stay safe and dry!

According to TV Guide, talks are in the works between CBS and Warner Bros. on the fate of Two and a Half Men. And absent from the list are CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, Unforgettable, A Gifted Man, Rob, Rules of Engagement and NYC 22, which doesn’t premiere until next month. I suppose it’s possible some of those shows could receive late pick-ups. CBS may be waiting to see how things look on the pilot front before they make final decisions on the remaining comedies and dramas.

Unsurprisingly, Two and a Half Men’s second episode showed a steep drop in ratings from last week’s premiere, but also unsurprisingly, the series still showed numbers well above the norm for a scripted comedy. Meanwhile, Terra Nova did just-ok given the hype, and The Playboy Club dropped substantially from last week’s season premiere.

Deadline posted the numbers, starting with Two and a Half Men. While many of us tuned in last Monday to see how Ashton Kutcher did on his first episode of the series, fewer tuned in again last night to keep watching. The comedy was down 30% from last week, and yet it still managed to score 20 million viewers, which is nothing to shake a stick at. CBS’ Mike and Molly premiered its second season to an audience of 14 million (4.9/11), bumping it up a whopping 26% from last season’s premiere. It’s probably fair to attribute that to a combination of Men’s current boost in popularity, not to mention star Melissa McCarthy’s recent Emmy win and likely boost in fans due to her fantastic performance in the film Bridesmaids

Fox’s new adventure drama Terra Nova premiered last night with a two-hour episode, bringing in 9 million viewers. That’s really just-ok for a start. Not a flop, but not a gigantic premiere. We’ll have to wait to see how many viewers it holds in its second episode before speculating on whether or not the series is in trouble. As Deadline points out, there was a football game on ESPN last night, which may have kept some of the potential male viewers from tuning in to Fox for the new series.

Speaking of trouble, The Playboy Club may be in some if things don’t start to improve soon for the series. The ’60’s drama dropped 19% from last week’s premiere, earning a 1.3/3 rating. Hopefully NBC will consider moving it to another time-slot to give it a better shot at building an audience. TPC certainly wouldn’t be the first series that suffered after starting out on a Monday night at 10 time-slot. CBS has their premiere schedule set up for the Fall 2011 season. Changes in CBS’ schedule are minimal as network adds in a few new comedies and procedurals to go with the rest of their primetime programming, which consists largely of comedies and procedurals. The eye does have a couple of reality shows and it’s Survivor that’s on deck to start things off with its 23rd edition premiere set to air on September 14th.

The rest of the premieres begin airing the following week, starting on Monday, September 19th with the season premieres of How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men and Hawaii Five-0, along with the series premiere of 2 Broke Girls.

CBS’ Monday night comedy block starts out with a double dose of How I Met Your Mother on September 19th, however Mike and Molly returns the following Monday, pushing 2 Broke Girls into its regular timeslot (8:30 p.m. after HIMYM). Unforgettable premieres after the two hour NCIS/NCIS: Los Angeles block on Tuesday nights. Procedural enthusiasts will appreciate that, as well as Wednesday night’s lineup, which includes Criminal Minds and CSI.

Thursday night is a blend of comedy and dramas with The Big Bang Theory and eventually How to Be a Gentleman on at 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. respectively, followed by hour-long dramas Person of Interest and The Mentalist. And those who love The Good Wife, The Amazing Race and CSI: Miami will find them on Sunday nights.

A Gifted Man, which sounds more like a serialized drama than a procedural, is set to premiere on Friday nights, followed by CSI: NY and cop drama Blue Bloods.

Last but not least, CBS has Rules of Engagement tucked away on Saturday night, where I expect many will forget about it or else, mistake it for a rerun should they happen across it.

Marie Claire and more specifically blogger Maura Kelly are under fire after she ran a post admitting she’d be grossed out watching two obese TV characters kiss. Mike & Molly creator Mark Roberts shared his thoughts on Kelly’s comments.

Kelly, who serves as a freelance writer for Marie Claire’s website, admits to having been relatively unfamiliar with the CBS series Mike & Molly, which centers on two overweight people who begin a romantic relationship. She references a CNN article that talks about viewers being uncomfortable with seeing plus-sized people being intimate and then goes into her own opinions on the matter.

Here is part of Kelly’s original blog posting:

Later on, she offers a parenthesized paragraph of positivity toward losing weight and getting fit and then gives tentative points to Mike and Molly for trying in their participation at Overeaters Anonymous.

The post has more than two thousand comments and at some point, Kelly posted an apology. Here’s part of it:

Yes, her feelings for “those people” were made clear in her original post. In fairness to Kelly, she’s hardly alone in her opinions here and the topic of people being uncomfortable watching overweight couples be intimate on TV is certainly worth discussing. It was the “brutal” in her “brutally honest” opinions that was unnecessary and unfortunately, far too common in a culture where “size-ism” remains somewhat socially acceptable. At least, enough for her to think saying things like “rolls and rolls of fat” was going to fly without her having to eventually add an apology nearly as lengthy as the original post to her blog.

Marie Claire is certainly a well known magazine and probably has a readership that includes people of all shapes and sizes, and thus, the backlash was substantial. Not only has it been heavy in the comments section of the blog, but it also got the attention of Mike and Molly creator Mark Roberts. Fancast.com posted an interview with Roberts, wherein he states the following:
