The Boys’ fifth and final season is streaming now with a Prime Video subscription amid the 2026 TV schedule, and it’s been intense. As part of this last stretch of episodes, there have been some fun surprises, including a bloody Supernatural reunion between Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins. That finally came to fruition in Episode 5, and it was well worth the wait. On top of that, Prime Video just dropped an excellent outtake, and it shows Collins, Ackles and Padalecki all reprising their SPN characters.

Despite both shows being created by Eric Kripke, The Boys and Supernatural are very different, especially when it comes to how they're written. With that in mind, it was hilariously jarring for me to see the outtake shared to Prime Video's Instagram. In it, Padalecki, Ackles and Collins not only channel Dean, Sam, and Castiel, respectively, but they also make reference to other elements from the beloved CW show like Chuck and Busty Asian Beauties. Take a look:

It’s been over five years since Supernatural ended, and I never thought I'd see the day that Sam, Dean and Castiel would return in some form. While this isn't like a canon addition to SPN lore in any way, it's hard not to smile when seeing the three actors slip back into versions of their beloved characters.

All in all, the trio seamlessly slide back into their respective roles, and it’s almost like no time has passed. Ironically, Ackles was nervous about working with Padalecki and Collins again but, based on this clip and what really happens in the episode, I'd say those concerns weren't warranted. Unsurprisingly, fans are absolutely loving the blooper, and you can see some responses below:

I don’t know what’s better. The fact that Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins reprised their Supernatural roles, or that the trio got pretty violent with each other on the actual show. During the episode, Ackles' Soldier Boy and Collins’ Malchemical get into a fight with Padalecki’s Mister Marathon, who ends up getting killed by Homelander (Antony Starr). Such a crushing scene is what I'd expect from The Boys and, while there's a sense of irony to such brutal moment marking a great reunion of actors, let's be glad we now have it along with this blooper.

Speaking of outtakes, I'm curious as to how long it took for them to really get through filming. Those who have seen the 15 seasons’ worth of Supernatural bloopers know that for a serious show, the stars could get completely unserious while filming. To this day, I’m not sure how everyone managed to do 15 seasons and over 300 episodes, because it always seemed like Ackles, Padalcki and Collins could not get through scenes.

After seeing this episode of The Boys, what I want now more than ever is an R-rated Supernatural revival. The chances of that happening are probably slim, but I'll continue to hold onto that hope. For now, know that new episodes of The Boys hit Prime Video on Wednesdays. Also, those who want to see Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins on Supernatural can also stream all 15 seasons of the show on the aforementioned streaming service.

The long-awaited Supernatural reunion finally hit The Boys on Wednesday on the 2026 TV schedule, and it was pretty memorable. Fans got to see Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins on-screen together for the first time since Supernatural ended in 2020, and it wasn’t anything like The CW series. And since it is The Boys, things got pretty violent and bloody.

Ackles has previously opened up about how nervous he was about his former co-stars joining him on The Boys. While the trio frequently sees each other at fan conventions, working together again is a different story. He told Deadline how it was working with Padalecki and Collins again after so long, admitting they had to do some adjusting since they were in a different environment:

As both a Supernatural and The Boys fan, it was so fun seeing Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins on screen together. While it was definitely not like Supernatural, and they weren’t the only ones having to do some adjusting, seeing them banter and joke around, it was like nothing had changed.

Of course, there were some additional lines of coke and a whole lot of blood, but it was as entertaining as ever. It was announced a while ago that a Supernatural reunion was coming for the fifth and final season of The Boys, with very little information surrounding it, and the wait was definitely worth it. And even despite the adjusting, Ackles loved it:

When it came to filming the scene in question, it was not your typical Supernatural scene. Padalecki portrayed a former member of The Seven, Mister Marathon, while Collins was Malchemical, a Supe whose power is toxic gas. There’s a lot of fighting, a lot of violence, a lot of blood, and neither Mister Marathon nor Malchemical makes it out alive, thanks to both Soldier Boy and Homelander. But throughout everything, Ackles felt comfortable with what they were all doing, and putting on the Soldier Boy suit while filming with his former co-stars:

Even though working on The Boys together is a little different from Supernatural, it’s not like Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins haven’t dealt with crazy characters before. Ackles recalled the intense storylines that they had to do on SPN, and having to play different, villainous versions of their characters, so it’s not that big of a stretch:

While the episode ended on a pretty tragic note, it was still entertaining to see Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins on-screen together, especially since you don’t know when it’ll happen again. There have been some talks of a potential Supernatural revival, so who knows what will happen. For now, fans can always watch Supernatural with a Peacock subscription. The Boys has once again topped itself with the episode “One-Shots,” which shockingly killed off a major Supe, set up an until-death rivalry between two others, and delivered a celebrity cameo-filled sequence that went far beyond the highly anticipated Supernatural reunion for Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. This will no doubt go down as one of the most fun and bloodiest hours in all of 2026 TV.

So let’s put our viscera-proof swimming caps on and dive into this muck to celebrate all the larger-than-usual number of wild and gory deaths, as well as series executive producer Seth Rogen heading up a murderer’s row (and eventually murdered row) of comedy stars, including Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Will Forte and Craig Robinson. All in a day’s work for the Supes that populate The Boys, amirite?

Jensen Ackles Got To Brutally Kill Off His Supernatural Co-Stars

The very first look at Misha Collins on The Boys surprisingly foreshadowed his death in the episode, with Soldier Boy holding his character Malchemical by the throat just before snapping the Supe's neck. I thought the show might buck that expectation somehow, but no.

From a plot perspective, Malchemical's death is pretty tragic by way of Butcher & Co.'s grand plan to kill off Homelander, since he could emit fumes noxious enough to knock the Seven's leader unconscious. Unfortunately, none of The Boys are likely aware Malcehmical exists, and thus likely won't be able to reverse-engineer his knockout gas. (That said, I'm holding out hope for Misha Collins-as-a-corpse to reappear in Episode 506 for Frenchie to extract DNA from.)

Jared Padalecki's speedster Mister Marathon was also an important introduction for the overall plot, as he confirmed where perhaps the last remaining vials of the V1 serum are. But his death was most much elaborate, utilizing some of the gnarliest practical effects I've ever seen in this show. (But only after fans got to see a hilarious assortment of Sony Pictures-produced VCU offshoot movies with Padalecki's character front and center.)

In a sequence straight out of a Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon, Marathon runs arouns his mansion chasing Soldier Boy, who amusingly puts the various celebs in his pursuer's path, causing each of them to full-on explode the way Hughie's girlfriend did when A-Train zipped through her. I guess Rogen didn't get fully 'sploded, but more on that below.

I Absolutely Loved The Dorky Nods To Superbad And Saturday Night Live

If you're looking for an SNL vet to play the weirdest dude in your movie, you're probably gonna go with Kyle Mooney. But if we're talking the second-weirdest character, that's the realm ruled over by talents like Will Forte and Bill Hader. Only, the latter isn't around anymore in The Boys' timeline, as he was outed (correctly or otherwise) as being a Starlighter, and Forte was only too happy to take advantage. As he put it:

I think hearing him refer to himself as "The Forte" could grow on me. But probably not for a while.

Elsewhere, when everyone is reacting in a panic to Homelander getting knocked out, Mister Marathon makes it clear that one of Forte's most memorable characters does indeed exist in this universe.

• MISTER MARATHON: Chill out, MacGruber! Everything is cool.

Forte's body does end up looking like the wrong end of a MacGruber mission, as he's the first celeb Soldier Boy sacrifices while running away.

But let's jump back a bit to before things getting so bloody. Seeing Seth Rogen and Christopher Mitz-Plasse together at the card table immediately sparked memories of Superbad, given that was the movie that put Mintz-Plasse on the map. So it's only fitting that he hilariously threw co-star Michael Cera under the bus as a possible traitor.

• CHRIS MINTZ-PLASSE: Hey, do we think Michael Cera's a Starlighter? 'Cause we're up for the same part right now, and it'd be pret-ty good if he got vanished.
• SETH ROGEN: You've been friends with him for 20 years, Chris.
• CHRIS: Yeah, but I really need this part, man.

A couple of minutes later, Homelander's ire has everyone on edge, and Mintz-Plasse once again draws attention to the Arrested Development vet, saying:

Technically, the Bill Hader comment could also count as a Superbad reference, since he and Rogen played the bumbling cops in that. Fans may recall that Craig Robinson played a drug dealer in 2007 comedy and its "Cop Car Confessions" extras. Well, he also showed up for an extremely brief cameo to gripe about Danny Trejo's tacos before Mister Marathon turned him into human salsa.

Seth Rogen Joked About Hating Weed And Then Got Half His Body Blown Off

Amidst all of the stressful happenings, Mintz-Plasse sparks up a joint and offers it to Rogen, who turns it down with the following reasoning:

It's high-ly ridiculous for this scene to imply that Mintz-Plasse wouldn't already be aware of Rogen's disinterest in the devil's lettuce after so many years. But still a funny joke, since there's a less than 0% chance that Rogen wasn't stoned while filming that very scene.

Firecracker's Fuse Was Permanently Snuffed

After all the earlier events of the episode, including Sister Sage laying out her mega-plan to eradicate humanity and catch up on reading, Homelander punctuated the episode off with another shocking death. After Firecracker pulled off arguably her most deplorable and sickening act by falsely accusing her hometown pastor and his church of being in cahoots with Starlighter, so soon after sitting with him and knowing that wasn't the case at all.

Against her better wishes, Firecracker remained loyal to Homelander's "I'm God now" turn to a fault, and likely would have continued to do his bidding for years on end. Which could have happened just so if Homelander never learned that she bagged his old man. He should have directed his anger at Soldier Boy, who knew that Homelander didn't rise to the occasion with her, but instead took it out on the one who actually had his back.

It's not quite as divisive as A-Train death scene in the premiere, since there wasn't anything redeemable happening with Firecracker. But still gave an equally cruel example of how little Homelander cares about anything or anyone around him. He's even getting breast milk from rando churchgoers now? For shame.

The fifth and final season of The Boys will be coming soon on the 2026 TV schedule, on April 8, to be exact, and there is a lot to look forward to. Now, while I can't wait to see how this action-packed series ends, I also have to admit that I'm equally excited for the Supernatural reunion that will happen during it. With Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will be appearing in the series as well, but Ackles was apparently nervous about working with them again.

Supernatural ended over five years ago, but Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins are still close. They frequently attend fan conventions together, and were even still on The CW in some way, shape, or form for a bit after SPN ended. So you’d think working on-screen together again would be a breeze. With The Boys, though, things were a bit different. Ackles explained to TVLine why he was a bit nervous about his former co-stars joining the fun on the Prime hit, and it’s pretty understandable:

Ackles joined The Boys, which was created by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, in Season 3, and he’s now set to lead his own prequel, Vought Rising, alongside Aya Cash. Joining a series, especially one you’re a fan of, can be intimidating, so it makes sense that he was nervous about being on The Boys. But then those nerves just got bigger when Padalecki and Collins joined the show for Season 5, and it was more so for them rather than for him, and it really shows just how much he cares for them.

Despite the nerves radiating from the three of them, Ackles recalled just how fun filming The Boys with Padalecki and Collins truly was. As of now, their roles have yet to be revealed, but from the looks of the trailer, the three will be getting into some fun trouble, and for the Soldier Boy actor, it was like nothing had changed:

Those who have seen 15 years’ worth of Supernatural bloopers or really any panel video from any convention they’ve attended know that things can get pretty chaotic when you put Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins in one room. So it’s nice to know that not much has changed between them since the last time they were all on-screen together. And it makes me even more excited to see what they bring to The Boys.

It can be assumed that Padalecki and Collins’ roles won’t be revealed until The Boys Season 5 premieres. Regardless of what their roles are, it’s going to be pretty fun seeing them and Ackles together again, even if Soldier Boy is going to be roughing them up a bit. The Boys’ fifth and final season premieres on April 8 for those with an Amazon Prime subscription.

When The Boys finally dropped the first full-length Season 5 trailer online, the biggest group of fan reactions logically came from Boys viewers themselves. But given that this season features the highly discussed reunion between Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles and former co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, those actors’ appearances in the promo have also sparked a ton of comments from the SPN community, with many of them sharing the same idea.

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who also happened to create Supernatural, knew exactly what he was doing when he first cast Ackles as the villainous Soldier Boy, and thankfully fed into the fanbase’s hopes for the actor to one again share the screen with his former on-screen bro and angel BFF. The details behind it all have somehow been kept mostly hidden from public knowledge, but the trailer heavily indicated that this won’t be an entirely loving interaction, at least going by how Soldier Boy handles Collins’ character.

At least that’s how it might come across to anyone who’s never written/spoken/embodied the word Destiel before. To those in the know, a little choking and roughhousing between these two is far closer to a dream scenario than anything antagonistic. More like Sold-rawr Boy, amirite?

No, not everyone buys into this character ship between Ackles' Dean Winchester and Collins' Castiel, or that it was made canonical in the final season before one of the most devastating deaths of Supernatural's run. Yes, an anti-Destiel crowd has long existed online. Yes, there are Boys viewers whose undies are in a bunch over SPN fans hijacking the conversation. But there's contrarianism everywhere you look online, and that's not what we're focusing on here. So on with the positivity!

These are exemplary of a much larger subsection of the commentary surrounding The Boys' trailer, although they're the more friendly-for-work comments as compared to other more lurid reactions.

Supernatural's Tumblr fame even re-entered the spotlight after the promo dropped and reinvigorated the shipdom and its most vocal proponents. And whoever's in charge of the site's social media gets kudos for acknowledging it.

Amusingly enough, with all the attention going to seeing Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins sharing the screen again, not as much of the talk has focused on the wildly gory outcome of that scene, in which Misha Collins' character is apparently turned into an unrecognizable pile of organs. Not the cleanest way to pay off on a long-awaited reunion.

And all the while, Jared Padalecki's character is just standing and watching from the side, which drew its own amusing reaction.

With the final season’s production wrap recently being celebrated by the crew, The Boys Season 5 will blast its way onto Prime Video starting on April 8, 2026. Meanwhile, fans looking for SUpernatural won’t find it at its former longtime home of Netflix, but rather using a Peacock subscription.

The 2025 TV schedule has included new gigs for some former Supernatural stars, but also delivered milestones like the 20th anniversary of the original pilot with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. This year is also the five-year anniversary of the final episodes of the series, and I decided that I would rewatch one of the defining moments of that last arc. On this day in 2020, the Season 15 episode called “Despair” aired on The CW, and Supernatural killed off Misha Collins’ Castiel for the last time.

It wasn’t Cas’ first death, with Misha Collins already able to pick his favorite from several options years earlier. But with just two episodes left after “Despair,” fans could guess at the time that this would probably be his last. Using my Netflix subscription, I revisited that pivotal scene, and I discovered that the twist was even sadder on November 5, 2025 than on the same day in 2020.

What Happened For Castiel's Final Death

With just two episodes left in the series, Supernatural paid off on a twist from two years earlier. Castiel had made a deal to bring Jack back to life, with the price that he’d be dragged off to The Empty forever whenever he experienced a moment of absolute happiness. Cas managed to avoid activating that deal for the next couple of seasons by usually being at least a little bit miserable, but the desperate times of “Despair” called for desperate messages.

Cas and Dean were being hunted throughout the bunker by Billie, who had murder on the mind. As Dean said, she was going to break through their barrier, kill Cas, and then kill him. They were out of options… as far as he knew, anyway. Already tearing up as soon as he realized that they had an out, Cas came clean to Dean about the deal, and then gave this speech:

Dean still had no idea where Castiel was going with this, and in his defense, they had kind of a lot happening at the time, none of which seemed likely to tie to the angel finding true happiness. But Cas went on, smiling and crying as he acknowledged that Dean sees himself as “destructive,” “angry,” “broken,” and “Daddy’s blunt instrument” driven by “hate and anger,” but said that wasn't true. He went on:

And despite this being Supernatural, a show that often played Castiel’s “more profound bond” with Dean for laughs, the angel went on to say “I love you.” It made Cas happy enough that it triggered his deal, with The Empty swarming up to drag him away just as Billie broke through the barrier. Both were dragged off, leaving a shell-shocked Dean on the floor with tears in his eyes. According to the terms of the deal, Cas was gone for good.

I didn’t entirely believe that back in 2020, though, which is part of why my rewatch was sadder than the first time I tuned in. But before I get into that, I really need to take us back in time to the craziness of that fateful night five years ago.

On This Day, Five Years Ago

As people who were watching live on November 5, 2020 may remember, it was just a bonkers night on social media while the episode was airing. The results of the 2020 United States presidential election still hadn’t been confirmed, rumors were circulating about the death of a foreign leader, and the wildly improbable twist of Castiel canonically declaring his love for Dean Winchester was unfolding on The CW.

My knee-jerk reaction at the time wasn’t sadness or excitement or even nervousness about what Castiel being dragged to The Empty meant for the upcoming series finale, but generally just a feeling of “WTF is happening right now?!” It was a pretty surreal night, not helped by the fact that Supernatural was fairly fresh off of its abrupt COVID hiatus. Never in my wildest dreams did I believe the show would go there on screen for Cas.

The surprise wasn’t that the angel died, since the stage seemed set at the time for Castiel to once again die. How it happened was the kicker. Whether you'd boarded the good ship Destiel, saw Cas as a third Winchester brother (sorry, Adam), or just saw them as platonic pals with a capital P, it was a pretty great love confession from the angel to the human, and not something I ever thought would happen on screen.

Why It's Even Sadder In 2025

While the whole situation was just too surreal for me to be immediately sad when I watched “Despair” for the first time five years ago, I also have to note that I was pretty confident that Supernatural would once again find a way to bring Misha Collins back for at least a cameo before the final credits rolled.

Even until the final moments of the finale when both Winchesters were dead and in Heaven, I was expecting Castiel to walk up. His death just didn’t seem permanent enough at the time for me to mourn too much. I talked a big talk at the time because I didn’t really think it would stick. It never did, right?

This time, I was watching with the full knowledge that the closest we’d get to an on-screen return from Misha Collins was a voice cameo in the penultimate episode. Bobby exposited in the finale that Jack had brought Cas back and Cas had helped reshape Heaven, but the last we ever saw of the angel was being dragged off to The Empty.

Knowing that now, Misha Collins’ performance in his final scene hit a lot harder, and I have more appreciation for what Jensen Ackles brought as well. After all, viewers from home knew what was going to happen and saw what Cas was trying to say, but Dean was getting a whole lot of information in mere moments, when he was expecting Billie to break in and kill them both any second.

Smaller notes packed more of an emotional punch this time too, like Cas’ handprint on Dean’s shoulder as a mirror to when he’d first pulled the eldest Winchester brother out of Hell all those years ago and Dean actually screening Sam’s calls at the end of the episode so that he could sit and cry alone. Plus, the cancellation of The Winchesters meant that Cas couldn’t even make a comeback that way.

On the whole, I’m glad I rewatched Castiel’s death scene for the five-year anniversary of “Despair,” but it hasn’t made me think any better of the series finale now. Who knows? Maybe I’ll need to rewatch that for its upcoming anniversary in a couple of weeks. The Boys has completed filming its fifth and final season, meaning that it'll be streaming Amazon Prime subscription sooner rather than later, even if it'll miss the 2025 TV schedule. Without much known about Season 5, much of the hype has circled around the much-anticipated Supernatural reunion bringing Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins back together on-screen for the first time since SPN’s finale in 2020. Ackles opened up about how weird it was working with his former co-stars again for the raunchy superhero series, and as a fan of both, I agree.

While it’s been confirmed that Padalecki and Collins will be appearing in the final season of The Boys alongside Ackles, who will reprise his role as Soldier Boy, details surrounding their characters have been kept under wraps. Creator Eric Kripke, who also created Supernatural, previously admitted what it was like seeing the reunion, and Ackles has even shared that it was like being home.

That being said, The Boys is not akin to Supernatural by any means, and not just because of the tonal nature of the shows are so vastly different. Ackles told People what it was like having Padalecki and Collins on set of The Boys, and I can definitely see where he’s coming from:

Considering Ackles is no stranger to The Boys, unlike Padalecki and Collins, it makes sense why he would feel that way, especially knowing they can get into it. It’s even more pressure knowing that this is the first time they’ve acted together on-screen since 2020. But that’s what makes it exciting, even if it was weird for Ackles’ “house” to be invaded. He did direct an episode of Walker and guest starred, so now he knows how Padalecki felt.

Even though it’s unknown in what capacity Padalecki and Collins will be appearing in on The Boys, it can be assumed that they will have at least one or two scenes with Ackles. Fans can also probably expect a reference or two to Supernatural, and maybe even the opportunity to retcon the divisive series finale. Whatever happens, though, it will be nice to see the three of them together again. Although they frequently reunite at fan conventions, acting together is different.

More information about The Boys’ final season should be announced soon, but the wait will be worth it with the Supernatural reunion. There’s also no telling what else the new season will consist of and how this crazy story will wrap up. Luckily, with a new season of Gen V premiering soon and Ackles’ new prequel series Vought Rising releasing in the near future, there will be a lot more to look forward to.

Usually, holding a job at a particular company for a long time comes with lots of great benefits, and the same can be true for actors who have an extended stint on a popular TV show. While the stars of The Boys are ending their time on the no-so-heroic superhero series with their fifth and final season, the 2025 TV schedule brought fans word of that upcoming season giving us a big Supernatural cast reunion as Jensen Ackles will be joined by Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins when the hit returns next year. But, the Soldier Boy actor just revealed that there was some “concern” about getting the old gang back together.

What Did Jensen Ackles Say About Concerns Over The Boys’ Supernatural Reunion?

It’s not everyday that television lovers can celebrate a series lasting for a full 15 seasons, but audiences made sure that The CW’s Supernatural fulfilled its promise across a decade and a half of frights, fights, and things that go bump in the night. The spooky drama about two brothers who hunt monsters wrapped its run in 2020 with a hotly debated series finale, but long-time co-stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki (who portrayed the siblings in question), and Misha Collins (their angel ally, Castiel) have remained buddies.

The Boys Season 3 cast saw Ackles join the fray as the Captain America parody, Soldier Boy, and it was confirmed back in late February that the trio of Supernatural talent is reuniting for the anticipated final season. As the erstwhile Dean Winchester recently said during an appearance on The Tonight Show, when taken at face value, this simply seemed like a great idea:

If you’re unaware, it’s possible that Supernatural fans are more dedicated than any other fan group, to the point where they call themselves the “SPN Family” and are truly considered a found family by the stars of the long-running show, who formed their own family behind the scenes. However, there was some question about whether or not the actors could come back together and, you know, act right while on set. As he continued:

Right. So, here’s the thing about becoming friends with the people you work with: sometimes, things can get kinda wild. Because you’re buddies who know each other well and hang out away from the job, once you are at work with each other, the situation might get a teensy bit…inappropriate is a strong word, but you could easily find yourselves having a “blast” and joking around in a way that isn’t seen as being super-profesh. It appears that this was considered a potential issue here, especially because The Boys isn’t their territory in the same way Supernatural was after 15 years. Ackles added:

Yeah, while the star admitted that working with his two friends again felt like “being home,” no one wants it to feel like home so much that folks are leaving the toilets unflushed. Listen, I’m sure that Jared Padalecki is a lovely man who would never actually dare to leave an unflushed toilet behind. But, if his currently undisclosed character is that kind of trash goblin, well, he’ll totally fit right in!

Supernatural may have ended more than four years ago, but the series creator has a big treat in store for fans who have not yet forgotten the adventures of the Winchesters and their extended family. It's not a revival of the original show or even the return of The Winchesters; prepare instead to see the big three from the Supernatural days on The Boys. Jensen Ackles already had the role of Soldier Boy that he can reprise for The Boys Season 5; now he'll be joined by fellow Supernatural alums Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins to possibly address a lingering finale issue.

How The Three Stars Are Coming To The Same Show

It's not a huge surprise that Padalecki at least is going to show up after previous comments by Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural for The WB (which would become The CW) years before developing The Boys for Prime Video. Misha Collins is more of a surprise, and his inclusion is what reminded me of my lingering issue with how Supernatural ended. But before we get into that, take a look at the announcement video and note the iconic Supernatural quote:

"We got work to do" is a line from the end of both Supernatural's 2005 pilot episode as well as the Season 15 premiere in 2019, and any fan worth their rock salt surely caught it. While it may be some time before news breaks of who Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki will play, and even though it's possible that the three actors won't even share scenes, there's an incredibly basic way that this could make up for what I still see as a shortcoming of Supernatural's last episode.

The Supernatural finale was divisive for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the very unceremonious death of Dean Winchester, played by Ackles. I've gone back and forth over the years on how I feel about how he was killed off, and the only two things that I haven't really changed my mind about at all are 1) Jared Padalecki's transformation into old man Sam for the flash-forwards was a little bit goofy and 2) Misha Collins should have been there as Castiel.

Cuts had to be made due to COVID production complications, so the finale would have likely included more Supernatural alums before the end if it was possible to do safely, but it still stings that Cas' last appearance on Supernatural was sacrificing himself to misery after finally doing the one thing that would make him truly happy.

Why The Boys Is Already A Funny Option For A Reunion

Will Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins be playing the Winchester brothers and the angel on The Boys? Of course not. For one thing, Ackles is already Soldier Boy, and plenty of Supernatural vets have already appeared on the Prime Video show without hugely meta nods to old CW series. But as a TV enthusiast and an entertainment journalist, I've witnessed the rise and fall of many fandoms, and I don't think there's any fandom quite as dedicated as Supernatural viewers when it comes to taking canon, seeing it, and then choosing what to do with it. (It's also a valuable approach to The X-Files, in my experience.)

Certainly no show I've seen approaches meta episodes the way Supernatural did, to the point that the 200th episode – called "Fan Fiction" – was literally about an in-universe musical based on an in-universe book series all about the Winchesters, complete with jokes about ship names, subtext, the Samulet, and the fact that Sam and Dean kind of forgot about their half-brother Adam down in Hell for a long time.

All of which is to say that I have full faith that Supernatural fans can watch The Boys with Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins all presumably playing different characters, and make it both funny and somehow tied to Sam, Dean, and Cas. Why not an alternate universe, a la "The French Mistake" episode that featured Sam and Dean inserted into the lives of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles through angelic shenanigans? Not only is The Boys a hilarious option as the show to bring the three back together after we didn't get one last Supernatural of them as a trio, but I can't wait to see how Supernatural fans react to it.

The first four seasons of The Boys, including every episode with Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, are streaming with a Prime Video subscription, with Supernatural streaming via a Netflix subscription. Since Season 5 likely won't debut on Amazon until 2026, those are solid enough options to pass the time.

Supernatural fans, if you’re not into The Boys, now might be a good time to catch up with your Amazon Prime subscription. Following Jensen Ackles being established as Captain America parody character Soldier Boy when he joined The Boys Season 3 cast, he’ll be bringing along his Supernatural boys with him for the fifth and final season, which is currently in production. Ackles made the announcement with his former Supernatural co-stars, and it’s too good.

The Boys Instagram account caught Supernatural fans off guard when a video was posted of Jensen Ackles telling Jared Padelecki they have “work to do”. Check it out:

Jared Padelecki sweetly answers Ackles’ call in the video by saying he’s gotta “tell Misha,” as in Misha Collins, a.k.a. Castiel. Collins ends the post in the best way possible by answering and asking “What are we doing?” before The Boys logo pops up. It’s the best tease you could give to confirm that the entire trio from Supernatural will all reunite in the final season of The Boys. And the Instagram reactions were so on point. Check it:

If you’ve been following The Boys closely, you might not be too surprised. The show was developed by Eric Kripke, who also created Supernatural. Considering he worked with Ackles and Padalecki in particular for many years on the CW series, they must be basically family. And after Ackles was cast as Soldier Boy, he talked about getting Padalecki on board.

Fans of Supernatural are literally getting the best of both worlds now that both Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will be coming as a package deal for the last season of The Boys. Now, we don’t know who they are playing, but per Entertainment Weekly, their roles will be in a guest star capacity. Considering the Supernatural creator is behind the reunion, we expect some cheeky, clever nod to their beloved first TV show together.

Following the events of Season 4, where Soldier Boy came back, Supernatural fans must of course be hoping that the three actors have entangled plotlines. As announced at San Diego Comic-Con last year, Soldier Boy is also getting his own spinoff, so is it possible the boys could be coming by to set up another show of their own? Can you imagine? The Supernatural fandom would break in the best way possible.

We don’t know when The Boys is coming back for its last season, but our best guess is in 2026. After this news, it can’t come close enough.

There has been a lot of talk about "nepo babies" over the last few years, and while it may seem like every actor has famous parents. That is hardly the case though, of course. Many of our favorite actors come from much more humble roots. So let's celebrate those stars with this list of actors who came from blue-collar backgrounds. 

Sarah Jessica Parker

Growing up in Ohio Sarah Jessica Parker had a huge family, with seven siblings and step-siblings. She's talked about how there were times her parents struggled to pay the bills and were even on welfare for a time. Though her mom ran a nursery and her stepdad was a truck driver, they still found a way to support Parker's show business dreams and eventually moved to New York so she could star on Broadway. 

James Dean

James Dean is one of the most tragic stories in Hollywood history, and his upbringing was pretty rough too. His father left when he was a toddler and his mother supported the two of them as a single mother during The Depression. That is until she passed away when Dean was only nine. He moved to Ohio and lived with his aunt and uncle where things stabilized for him. After graduating high school, he moved to LA and embarked on his all-too-brief career. 

Maisie Williams

Though she found fame at early age with Game of Thrones Maisie Williams' family struggled when she was younger. She was raised in a council house (public housing in the UK) until she was cast in the hit HBO show at age 12. 

Jeremy Strong

Jeremy Strong may play a scion to one of the wealthiest families on TV in Succession, but in real life, he had a much more humble upbringing. Strong grew up in the blue-collar area of Jamaica Plain in Boston and his father was a guard in juvenile jails in town. Eventually the family moved to the more upscale town of Sudbury, where he went to high school and discovered acting. 

Samuel L. Jackson

For most of his career, Samuel L. Jackson was a blue-collar actor working as much as he could. That makes with his upbringing as the son of a single mother who worked in a factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Shania Twain

Shaina Twain is best known as a country singer, of course, but she's done a little acting over her impressive career as well. It's a career that has taken far away from her humble roots outside Toronto, Ontario, where the family struggled. Those struggles led to her finding gigs as a singer at a young age and the rest is history.

Samantha Morton

Samantha Morton had a rough upbringing in the UK. Nine of her formative years were spent in foster care when her parents, who were addicts, weren't able to care for her. She had a couple of scraps with the law herself but started getting acting work in her teens and it all came together. 

Dolly Parton

There is no more revered person in Hollywood (or Nashville) than the great Dolly Parton. She's often talked about her humble beginnings in rural Tennessee as one of 12 children. She has always praised how her mother kept the family together through hard times and when Parton was 18 she moved to Nashville and hit the big time pretty quickly as a songwriter and a singer. 

Adam Driver

Megalopolis star Adam Driver moved around a lot as a kid, living all over from San Diego to Indiana. His stepfather was a Baptist preacher, but he was mostly raised by his mother in Indiana. After the September 11th attacks, he joined the Marines and served, like many other actors have over the years, for a few years before being discharged for a medical reason and starting his acting career. 

Al Pacino

Al Pacino grew up mostly in the South Bronx, and anyone from New York can tell you that the South Bronx in the '40s and '50s was a tough place to live. By his own admission he got in trouble a lot, as often happens with kids with hard working parents. Even as a actor early in his career he couch-surfed with friends until he started landing gigs regularly. 

Dax Shepard

Dax Shepard's family experienced the American Dream, according to the actor and podcast host. His mom worked at GM while he was growing up near Detroit and the family struggled, but as he got older, his mom's career grew and she moved up the ranks from janitor to executive, so by the time Shepard was in high school, she was quite successful. 

Ice Cube

Any fan of N.W.A. knows about Ice Cube's roots in South Central LA as the son of a janitor and a groundskeeper. As a result of desegregation, Ice Cube had the opportunity to get bussed out of Compton and out to the suburbs, where he thrived in English class, something he would make good use of later in life as the principal lyricist for one of the most successful rap acts of all time. 

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson, who has won the famed EGOT, was raised with her two siblings by a single mother on the South Side of Chicago. She started working in local theater at a young age and famously worked on the Disney Cruise line before auditioning for American Idol in the show's third season, which was, of course, her big break. 

Mel Brooks

The legendary Mel Brooks, like so many of his generation, was the child of immigrants. He was raised very poor in Brooklyn surrounded by people who worked in the garment industry. Instead of following in their footsteps, he went into show business and the world is luckier for it. 

Joan Crawford

Screen legend Joan Crawford would die a very rich woman, but she started life as the daughter of a construction worker in Texas. After her parents split up and her mother remarried, her stepfather got in trouble in Texas and the family moved to Kansas City where Crawford attended Catholic school as a work student. 

Jim Carrey

At one point Jim Carrey was the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, which is far cry from his humble beginnings in and around Toronto. For a time, Carrey has admitted, they were even homeless. Eventually his father found more stable employment and after dropping out of high school Carrey worked on his stand up routine and took shifts at a nearby factory. 

Misha Collins

Supernatural star Misha Collins grew up working class in Boston and he has said in the past that his family spent some time unhoused. He was lucky enough to gain admission to a prep school, which led him to the University of Chicago and eventually an internship at The White House during the Clinton administration before he concentrated on his acting career. 

Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson has been a part of two of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, Star Wars and the MCU. It wasn't always the big time for her though. Her mother was a teenager when she was born and never married Dawson's father, but did marry another man, from whom Dawson takes her last name. He was a construction worker first in New York and later in Texas. 

Jessica Chastain

Though she doesn't talk much about her upbringing, we do know that Jessica Chastain's stepfather was a firefighter and that her family life was a struggle growing up. She grew up in Sacramento with four siblings, though she lost one to suicide when she was in her early 20s. Chastain started acting as a kid and her career would eventually take off and she would become one of the most beloved and acclaimed actors of her generation. 

Daniel Kaluuya

Born of Uganda immigrants in London, Daniel Kaluuya was raised on a council estate in one of the city's most famous blue-collar areas, Camden. He didn't know his father growing up, but he excelled in school and started acting in plays while there. he started landing paying gigs in his teens and the rest is history.

Hilary Swank

Though she has humble roots as the daughter of an army soldier, Hilary Swank grew up in a stable household and even after her parents split up when she was 15, her mother moved with Swank to the LA area so she could try her hand at Hollywood. That bet paid off as Swank has been one of the best actresses around for decades. 

Charlie Chaplin

It could be argued that Charlie Chaplin was the first bonafide superstar of the silver screen. While he would eventually become Hollywood's biggest star and one of the most financially successful moviemakers of his era, his childhood was a hardscrabble upbringing in central London. His parents had no capacity to raise children and he bounced around reform schools and other group homes as a kid before finding his way, first in the theater then later in silent films. 

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez famously grew up "on the 6," meaning the 6-Train through the Bronx in New York City. Her father had a job as a computer technician and Lopez had a solid, yet definitely blue-collar upbringing. 

Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson has starred in some of the best roles in Hollywood over the last four decades, and one of them, Woody Boyd on Cheers, reflected his actual blue-collar roots in Indiana. The story of Woody Boyd and Woody Harrelson are pretty similar, as both were raised in rural Indiana. Harrelson was famously locked up in prison for most of his upbringing, and he eventually died in prison after Harrelson's career had taken off. 

Viola Davis

Viola Davis was actually born on plantation in South Carolina, if you can believe it. She was raised mostly in Rhode Island, however, but it was a hard upbringing which has described of being very financially unstable. 

Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig may be famous for playing suave, debonair, and sophisticated characters, but that's nothing like his upbringing. His father was a construction worker and bar manager, though Craig does have aristocratic ancestors. 

Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix (and his late brother River) had a wild upbringing. His parent were part of a cult called the Children of God and Phoenix spent much of his early life living in South America as his parents traveled as missionaries for the religious group. Eventually, the family left the cult, adopting the name "Phoenix" as a sign of their rebirth as a family in a new life.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is famously one of the richest people in Hollywood, but that's not how she started out. Her mother was a teenager in Milwaukee, but before long Winfrey found herself in Nashville living with the man she considers her father. While still a teen in Nashville, she started working in radio, which would eventually lead to her media empire. 

Bella Thorne

The whole reason Bella Thorne became a professional actor was to help support her family growing up. After her father was killed in a car wreck when she was ten, Thorne's mother was left to raise four children on her own. It was a tough upbringing, but the acting gigs started coming more and more often and got her big break on the Disney Channel's Shake It Up in 2010. 

James Caan

James Caan was in some of the best movies in Hollywood history. The list of Caan's best movies is incredible. His father was a deli meat salesman and he grew up in the blue-collar neighborhood of Sunnyside, Queens, in New York City. He found acting while he briefly attended Hofstra, where he would also meet Francis Ford Coppola, who would give the role of Sonny in The Godfather years later. 

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was raised by a single mother who had Gomez when she was just 16. Gomez has never been resentful, it seems, and credits her with raising her under such trying conditions. Gomez caught the acting bug at a pretty young age and ws soon landing shows on kids shows, leading to the insanely successful career we all know and love. 

Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington had the definition of a blue-collar upbringing as the son of a beautician and an employee of the water company in his hometown of New York City. His parent worked hard to make sure he got a good education and after graduating from Fordham, he embarked on one of the most successful Hollywood careers of all time. 

Spoilers below for anyone who hasn’t watched the three-episode premiere for The Boys Season 4 with an Amazon Prime subscription, and possible appetizer spoilers even for those who did watch.

The Boys has never been one to turn the other cheek, as it were, when it comes to its often outrageous critics-dividing subject matter, and Season 4 went ahead and dove in face-first right between the cheeks. Or at least Supernatural vet Rob Benedict’s short-lived new recruit did during his marquee turn in the second episode, "Life Among the Septics." And we learned the most amazing (and most disgusting) detail about that salad-tossing shocker from showrunner Eric Kripke.

To properly set the stage: in a scene that preceded Splinter’s nutso naked fight, which Kripke also talked to CinemaBlend about, Frenchie and Kimiko walked in on multiple versions of Benedict’s character engaging in what I’ll now describe as a conga line, but if the conga wasn’t a dance so much as orally pleasuring the anus. Suffice to say, it’s not a position that all actors would love to find themselves in, but Kripke said the actor was all-in from the jump, even after hearing what was involved. In his words:

I'd love to know exactly what kind of role description Rob Benedict was initially given that had him interested, to see how that compares to the finalized version that Eric Kripke had to tell him about. Not that it mattered in the long run, as the former God portrayer seemed A-OK with eating his own butt out and filming for a week straight wearing little beyond a prosthetic penis. If there's not an award for that specifically, hopefully that'll change in time.

Oh, and I wasn't exactly being sarcastic or hyperbolic in talking about him "eating his own butt," as the effects team took that idea to its logical conclusion, as Kripke told me:

As if The Boys would invite Rob Benedict in for an arc that had him slurping up some totally random butt mold. These people are professionals. To that end, Kripke agreed with me that the sound design and foley work in the scene is just as effective as the visual side.

Misha Collins' Nickname For The Scene

When I started to ask Eric Kripke about that moment, I realized I didn't actually know the best way to refer to it. So I asked how he and others referred to it behind the scenes, which is when another prominent Supernatural alum was namechecked. According to the showrunner:

The best thing about a butt buffet is that you don't have to worry about what to do with your plate, amirite? No?

I offered up my own nickname for the scene — "The Human Splint-epede" — and it got a chuckle out of Eric Kripke, so that felt like a giant win on my part. Now to wait and see what other jaw-droppingly raunchy moments are yet to come in the next five episodes. I don't see how anyone could have superhero fatigue regarding The Boys, since this is on a different wavelength.

We now know The Boys is ending with Season 5 — check out what Kripke told us he's most excited about — but new episodes are hitting the 2024 TV schedule every Thursday, so don't get caught in the spa with your pants down.

London native and genre TV veteran Mark Sheppard stole scenes in 2023 thanks to his work on Doom Patrol and as Walker: Independence’s Hagan, but his shocking health update going into the holiday season makes such scripted performances seem unimportant in comparison. The Supernatural vet revealed he survived a freaky health scare with seemingly supernatural abilities, and garnered a ton of support from former SPN cast members on not only that series, but also Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly.

Mark Sheppard’s Big Health Scare

Having just days previous shared social media posts sending his followers over to the subscription service Tea Runners, Mark Sheppard’s next Instagram post clued fans in on the series of medical emergencies he suffered ahead of a non-specified appointment. It’s a whirlwind of a story in relatively few words, as seen below:

Sheppard definitely isn’t the only celebrity who has suffered healthwise due to issues stemming from blockage in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, which the actor acknowledges also shares the name the “widowmaker,” given how fatal it can be without immediate medical care. It’s the same issue that Kevin Smith suffered in 2018, which led to his self-care reversal, and also what took the life of Meet the Press’ Tim Russert in 2008.

If Sheppard hadn’t been in a spot where others were able to quickly call upon first responders, the actor’s chances of survival would have certainly taken a dip. Thankfully, such hypotheticals don’t matter in this instance, and the actor appears to be feeling worlds better than he did on the day in question.

Supernatural Co-Stars Share Love For Mark Sheppard

To be expected, given his beloved span as Crowley, tons of Supernatural fans flooded the post's comment section with kind wishes, with more than a few of the actor's former co-stars sharing shock and admiration for their esteemed friend during this troublesome experience. Misha Collins shared as mirthy a reaction as could be, which Sheppard responded to in kind, as noted below:

• Misha Collins: Mark! You don't need to do the most and biggest every time! 6 heart attacks? 2 or 3 would have been impressive enough. You've impressed us, okay. Now stop with this heal up and get back on the road with us. Love you, pal.
• Mark Sheppard [Replying]: don’t let anyone know… love you too.

Collins certainly wasn't the only Supernatural vet to chime in on the post. "Thank you for staying with us" does sound more like a hotel's farewell message as opposed to a grateful declaration to a dear friend, but it's certainly suitable in this case. 

Mark Sheppard Also Got Love From Doctor Who, BSG And Firefly Co-Stars

Not that Supernatural was the only major genre series from Mark Sheppard's filmography whose stars reached out encouragingly after his scary update. Doctor Who alums Michelle Gomez and John Barrowman spoke up, as did Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer and Firefly's Jewel Staite.

Gotham Knights treated its fans to an action-packed season finale, as the titular team saved the city from a series of eight bombings, choosing in the end to stick together to continue protecting the people of Gotham. Unfortunately, however, this would be the final time we see the group together, as CW announced that Gotham Knights would not be renewed for a second season. That doesn’t mean creator Natalie Abrams hadn’t already started planning for a sophomore effort, and following “Night of the Owls,” she revealed what her plan would have been for the Knights going forward.

Fans have been waiting all season to see Misha Collins make his transformation from Harvey Dent into Two-Face, and while they certainly got that — courtesy of Rebecca March (Lauren Stamile) smashing a bottle of acid against his face as they tussled — Two-Face wasn’t the only character to make an introduction. After being mentioned in the beginning of the episode when Turner (Oscar Morgan) learned the truth about Batman's involvement in his parents’ death, Henri Ducard appeared in the flesh after his team saved Turner from the explosion at Wayne Tower. After the episode, Natalie Abrams revealed: 

Henri Ducard, played by Charles Mesure of V, informed Bruce Wayne’s adopted son that he’d trained his birth parents as well as the Batman himself, and now he would do the same for Turner. Ducard also said that the rest of the Gotham Knights believing Turner had died in the explosion was the “perfect place to start,” but under the current circumstances, was it the perfect place to end? 

Gotham Knights fans had plenty of thoughts following the final episode of the short-lived series, and they heaped praise on Natalie Abrams and the rest of the team involved, with one fan tweeting: 

Another wrote that they totally saw the vision for Season 2 that Gotham Knights was setting up, if only we’d have gotten a chance to see it: 

Many fans were a mix of emotions: thankful for the story they got to witness while disappointed that it came to an end so soon. As one viewer put it:

Misha Collins may not be Castiel on Supernatural, however, he is playing another iconic character now: Harvey Dent on Gotham Knights. While the actor is no stranger to portraying multiple versions of one character, he knew what he was getting himself into when signing up to play Harvey, who is set to become Two-Face later in Season 1. Now, he’s previewing what to expect from the character and how he impacted the story.

In an interview with Collider, Collins explained that while he knew that Harvey would become Two-Face fairly early on, there was just one key plot point he didn’t know: how he becomes the villain. However, because of a dream he had, he actually impacted his character's future, saying:

Dreams are a crazy concept, and even though sometimes they aren’t what you’d expect, sometimes they really do become a reality. It sounds like Misha Collins had the perfect dream about Two-Face, and because of that dream, it became a reality, as he said:

It’s hard to predict just how and when Harvey Dent will become Two-Face, but knowing that Collins had a part in putting together how it happens, makes me extra excited for the moment. The fact that the showrunners were even on board with it shows how much they trust Collins and how much they all care about this character and series. It’s never easy working on an adaptation of something so well-known, but it sounds like they all have the perfect plan in mind. Plus, with a cast on Gotham Knights as talented as this group, it's all going to be insane to watch.

It's not surprising that the showrunners were excited to take Misha Collins up on his idea for Two-Face, considering they didn’t have to be sold on him as Harvey Dent in the first place. Thanks to Supernatural, Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux were able to see the range of acting Collins can do, and they knew he was perfect for the role of the D.A.-turned-villain. Since the start of the series, it’s been clear that they have great instincts. 

Even though the DC series just premiered, it’s looking more and more like Gotham Knights might be canceled, and it doesn’t help that The CW will likely be making another handful of cancellations because of the new owner Nexstar. This means that if the DC show does not return, we won’t be able to see Misha Collins as Two-Face for a long time. However, since nothing is set in stone, it’s still possible the network could pick it up, or move elsewhere, HBO has a lot of DC's catalog, so maybe it could become available to those with an HBO Max subscription. Overall, we don't know what will happen with the show, but hopefully, we'll get to see this beloved actor as the iconic villain soon.

Nearly two and a half years after the end of Supernatural, Misha Collins has finally returned to The CW for his highly-anticipated role as Batman villain Harvey Dent/Two-Face on the network’s newest DC superhero series, Gotham Knights. On the surface, taking such a role on a high-profile show on the network that you once called home would seem like a no-brainer. However, Collins reveals that he was actually hesitant to sign on at first -- and it's because of his son that he ultimately said yes.

Misha Collins portrayed angel Castiel on Supernatural for 11 of the show’s 15 seasons. The series filmed in Vancouver, Canada for about nine-ten months of the year (breaks included), meaning that the majority of the cast and crew were away from their families for much of the year. Considering all of that, it's no surprise Misha told Us Weekly that he wasn’t ready for that type of professional commitment again:

That has to be one of the hardest parts about being an actor with a family, as having to leave your your loved ones for months at a time sounds tough. Clearly Misha Collins has his priorities in check since he wrestled with whether or not to take this new gig. But while it was hard for him to make the decision, the same wasn't true for his son, West, who was as excited as ever that his dad had been offered the chance to be on a DC series:

It’s both funny and ironic that young West had no problem at all with his dad being away from him for so long. But then again, one can understand why the kid would be jazzed about his father being in a DC production. Being able to brag about your dad playing a well-known comic book character is a big flex. And it’s a good thing he was able to convince his papa bear to do it because he definitely makes the Supernatural alum makes the perfect Harvey Dent.

It was a year ago that Misha Collins was announced to be joining the cast of Gotham Knights, and his previous gig apparently factored into him being tapped for Harvey Dent. While speaking to CinemaBlend, showrunners Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux said that Collins was what they were looking for when it came to casting the character, and they also seem excited to see him take on the role of a villain. I'm pumped to see how Collins continues to grow in the role and, as he crushes, we should send our thanks to his son for that initial push.

Gotham Knights has finally premiered to deliver a new take on an iconic comic book location, as well as at least one character name that any Batman fan probably knows well. Supernatural alum Misha Collins plays none other than Harvey Dent for the new show. Although Harvey is still a standup district attorney in Gotham Knights at this point, the character is famous for his ultimate transformation into the villain Two-Face. Showrunners Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux opened up about why Collins was the right man for the job, and there are ties back to Supernatural. 

Misha Collins was one of the most recognizable actors on The CW for more than a decade when he played the angel Castiel on Supernatural. He’s actually the third of the major Supernatural stars to return to the network (with Jared Padalecki starring on Walker and Jensen Ackles producing/appearing in The Winchesters), and the Gotham Knights showrunners were already fans before he officially signed on to play the future Two-Face. 

Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux spoke with CinemaBlend at SCAD TVfest, and when discussing Harvey Dent, Stoteraux explained that the “trick” is trying to make a story feel “surprising, interesting and compelling” when “everyone knows that this character is gonna go through this transformation.” They had to find a way to make the story of Harvey Dent eventually becoming Two-Face fresh to Gotham Knights, and Fiveash explained the solution: 

Misha Collins proved that he can deliver in genre series after more than a decade on Supernatural, and James Stoteraux explained that Gotham Knights needed to cast “someone who had such innate goodness, and Misha Collins is just like the best guy ever.” Harvey Dent may be doomed to become a villain, but to start, the show needed – as Chad Fiveash noted – Collins as somebody who is “so un-Two-Face.” Stoteraux went on:

Fans of Supernatural certainly saw Misha Collins playing a good character, but Castiel didn’t go from Season 4 to Season 15 without some transformations, for better or worse. The Gotham Knights showrunners confirmed that they were both big fans of Supernatural back in its day, and that fact came up during the casting process. James Stoteraux explained: 

They didn’t reveal what episodes Misha Collins specifically would have shown them, but given that he appeared in well over 100 of Supernatural’s 300+ episodes, there were a lot of options! Chad Fiveash went on to say that “what's great about him is he proceeded to try to sell us,” which the showrunners definitely didn't need. Stoteraux elaborated:

And Misha Collins certainly did say yes! The series premiere was enough to prove that wearing a suit and tie doesn't make Gotham Knights’ version of Harvey Dent into Castiel 2.0. Supernatural fans are seeing a different side of the actor, and it sounds like Gotham Knights viewers who never watched him as Cas will see him nailing the role of Gotham City’s most iconic district attorney. The showrunners made it clear that they had no regrets about Collins after casting him, as they only had great things to say. James Stoteraux raved:

Stoteraux’s comments echo what Collins' Gotham Knights co-stars had to say about working with him, with Rahart Adams (who plays Brody March) praising him as a “legend” who’s “always looking out for us,” and Fallon Smythe (Harper Rowe) saying that he “really treats us all like just peers and coworkers and family.” Chad Fiveash went on to preview how much Collins has been involved in Harvey’s journey behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera: 

Hopefully the show doesn’t have to worry about doing anything without him, but a lot may depend on how long it takes for Gotham Knights to begin Harvey’s transformation into Two-Face. Based on what the showrunners had to say about how Gotham Knights is handling superpowers, there may already be plans for how the series can keep telling stories beyond just the first season. Superheroes are fewer and farther between on the network these days with the Arrowverse winding down, and Gotham Knights is finding ways to tell a story with Batman characters and settings without needing the Dark Knight (who might have been played by Jensen Ackles if scheduling had worked out) himself.

While there have been several references to Batman in the Arrowverse, an entire canon series based around a member of the BatFamily (Batwoman), and a cameo by none other than Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, The CW’s shared universe of DC TV shows has never produced a series about the Dark Knight himself. Well, that still has yet to change because, not only does Gotham Knights take place outside of the Arrowverse, but Bruce Wayne is dead from the get-go.

However, leading one of the latest Batman TV shows in his place is an ensemble of young heroes — some entirely new and some who will prove familiar to die-hard fans of DC Comics — who seek to bring justice to the crime-ridden city, as soon as they can clear their names in the billionaire vigilante’s murder. Let’s take a look at who are the characters doing the crime fighting in this new DC TV show, who in the Gotham Knights cast plays them, and where else you might know them from.

Oscar Morgan (Turner Hayes)

Bruce Wayne’s adoptive son, Turner Hayes — a character created specifically for Gotham Knights — is Oscar Morgan’s first role in a project made in North America. In fact, the English actor’s feature-length debut is a 2021 French movie called Peaceful, which he followed with a U.K. drama called Zero. The rest of his acting credits include British TV shows like the 2017 miniseries, The Miniaturist (his first screen acting gig), the family-friendly comedy, Millie Inbetween, the short-lived comedy, Warren, and an episode of the funny crime series, Death in Paradise, most recently.

Olivia Rose Keegan (Duela Doe)

Playing Duela Doe — a rebellious, self-reliant thief whose father is the Joker in the show and in the comics — is Olive Rose Keegan, who last appeared on a superhero series for an episode of The Thundermans, which was actually her second guest spot on a Nickelodeon TV show after Sam & Cat. Before then, she made her acting debut on a Disney Channel show (A.N.T. Farm) before landing guest spots on series like Modern Family, being cast as a main character on Days of Our Lives, starring in the second season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and appearing in the Daisy Jones & the Six cast for Amazon Prime. Keegan’s movies include Decoding Annie Parker and Ashley from 2013, and the 2015 holiday drama, Salvation Street.

Fallon Smythe (Harper Row)

As Harper Row — also known as Batman ally Bluebird in the comics — we have Fallon Smythe, who was crowned Miss Jr. Teen Nevada at 13 before making her acting debut on the family-friendly horror web series S.H.R.I.E.K. She then went on to appear in more coming-of-age series like Disney Channel’s I Didn’t Do It and Freeform’s Black-ish spin-off, Grown-ish. After playing the title role in a spooky 2019 short film called Rosalind Vile, Smythe made her feature-length debut the same year with Most Likely to Murder, and starred in another short from 2022 called Saturday Morning.

Tyler DiChiara (Cullen Row)

As Harper’s transgender brother, Cullen Row — who, in the comics, is a cisgender homosexual with a thing for Tim Drake — we have transgender actor Tyler DiChiara, who made his acting debut in the 2019 coming-of-age adventure dramedy, Relish. He went on to appear in an another teen drama called The Virgin of Highland Park, and a short comic thriller called Our Language Is Chaos in 2022.

Misha Collins (Harvey Dent)

Playing a version of Harvey Dent who has not become Two-Face (yet, at least) is Misha Collins — a CW veteran best known for starring in the Supernatural cast as the angel, Castiel. Before then, the Boston native appeared in 1999’s Oscar-winning drama, Girl, Interrupted, went on to land a recurring role on 24, had guest appearances in several other hits series like Monk and NCIS, and appeared in the 2008 supernatural rom-com, Over Her Dead Body. Following his Supernatural stint, he appeared in one of Riz Ahmed’s best movies — Amazon Prime’s 2021 alien invasion thriller, Encounter.

Anna Lore (Stephanie Brown)

Stephanie Brown — who has been both Robin and Batgirl in the comics — is only the latest role in a DC TV played by Anna Lore, having appeared on two episodes of Doom Patrol as one of Kay Challis’ alters, Penny Farthing, and her latest role on a CW show, having appeared on nine episodes of the hit teen drama, All American. 

In 2014, she made her acting debut as the title role of the comedic web series, Frankenstein, MD, made her major motion debut with the 2015 body horror sequel, Contracted: Phase II, and both wrote and starred in a series of micro shorts called Katie in 2018. She more recently had a leading role in a Valentine’s Day-themed edition of Hulu’s anthology of feature-length horror stories, Into the Dark, and Peacock’s LGBTQ+ horror flick, They/Them, in 2022.

Navia Robinson (Carrie Kelley)

Carrie Kelley — another female Robin who originates from Frank Miller’s own DC Elseworlds universe — is only Navia Robinson’s latest role on a youth-focused superhero TV series after lending her voice to Disney Junior’s animated The Rocketeer series, and her latest role on a CW show, having appeared in an episode of The Vampire Diaries. She made her acting debut on BET’s Being Mary Jane before she was cast as Nia on Disney Channel’s continuation of That’s So Raven, Raven’s House, and the Netflix original series, Free Rein. Most recently, she joined the all-star cast of the Covid-era drama, We Are Gathered Here Today, in 2022.

Rahart Adams (Brody March)

As Turner's classmate, Brody March — another character created specifically for Gotham Knights — we have Rohart Adams, who got his start the same way many other Australian actors have, with a role on long-running soap opera, Neighbors, before landing a lead role on the coming-of-age horror series, Nowhere Boys, and its feature-length spin-off in 2016. He also had a lead role on a much lighter teen fantasy series, Nickelodeon’s Every Witch Way, and played a faux fantasy character in the network’s 2015 movie, Liar Liar Vampire. Adams also had a lead role in 2018’s Emo the Musical, but easily his biggest movie role to date was in the 2018 Pacific Rim sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, as Cadet Tahima.

Doug Bradley (Joe Chill)

Starring as the mugger who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents, Joe Chill, is Doug Bradley — a man known for killing it on the big screen for years as the original face of the Hellraiser movies, Pinhead. The Liverpudlian actor is known for many other great horror movies — such as a few other Clive Barker creations, namely Nightbreed and Book of Blood. However, Bradley has been known veer away from the genre that made him a legend, such as with 1999’s adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband and, of course, this very important role in Gotham Knights.

Sure, there may be no sign of Batman, but that is no reason that Batfans should not be curious to check out this new take on the BatFamily on Gotham Knights, when it premieres on The CW tonight at 9 p.m./8c.

The CW’s soon-to-premiere Gotham Knights series takes place in a world where Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman, is killed under mysterious circumstances, requiring his adopted son Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan, to investigate who perpetrated the crime. So needless to say we won’t be seeing a lot of Gotham City’s Caped Crusader in this upcoming DC TV show. However, according to Misha Collins, who plays Harvey Dent in Gotham Knights, apparently there were plans to have his Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles don the cape and cowl.

Misha Collins revealed this piece of information when he was asked by Multiverse of Color if there had been any attempts made to secure Jensen Ackles a role on Gotham Knights. The Supernatural alum, who played Castiel opposite Ackles’ Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki’s Sam Winchester on the series, shared that there were efforts made to have Ackles appear as Batman, but this didn’t work out due to scheduling issues, and David Miller was cast in the role instead. Collins explained:

For those unaware, Jensen Ackles already has some Batman experience under his belt from voicing the character in the two-part Batman: The Long Halloween and Legion of Super-Heroes. He also voiced Jason Todd, a.k.a. Red Hood, in Batman: Under the Red Hood. So it certainly would have been a big deal had Gotham Knights been able to secure Ackles for a Batman appearance, as he would have been one of the few actors to play the character in both animation and live-action. Adam West accomplished this when he vocally reprised his Bright Knight version of Batman in the animated movies Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and Batman vs. Two-Face, and Kevin Conroy, who passed away last November, appeared in The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event as Earth-99’s Bruce Wayne after more than two decades of voicing Batman in animated projects and video games.

As pointed out though, should Gotham Knights score a second season, maybe there’ll be an opportunity to squeeze a Jensen Ackles-played Batman into that story, whether it’s through flashbacks, because Bruce Wayne’s death was faked, it’s a clone of Bruce, etc. I’m now also remembering when Batwoman cast Warren Christie to play Tommy Elliot, a.k.a. Hush, while he was masquerading as Bruce. Meanwhile, when it comes to a potential role Jared Padalecki could play on Gotham Knights (when he’s not busy working of fellow CW series Walker, of course), Misha Collins joked that because of his height, Padalecki could play The Penguin on stilts.

Misha Collins’ other costars on Gotham Knights include naive Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown and Rahart Adams as Brody March. We’ll also see Hellraiser’s Doug Bradley appear in the sixth episode as Joe Chill, the man who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents. While it remains to be seen if Harvey Dent/Two-Face will end up being one of the villains in Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel (though the groundwork has certainly be laid for that), a new live-action adaptation of the DC Comics character is on the way. In March, Supernatural actor Misha Collins revealed he’s playing Harvey in The CW’s Gotham Knights pilot. While it remains to be seen if Gotham Knights will be picked up to series, Collins has shared some details on what it’s like for him joining the Batman universe and what we can expect from his version of Harvey.

Gotham Knights takes place in a universe where Batman has died, so unless a surprise resurrection comes seasons later if this becomes a series, don’t expect a Batman vs. Two-Face clash in this corner of the DC media space. Nevertheless, Misha Collins sounds excited to be participating in Gotham Knights, though he did admit some initial hesitance taking the role. As the Castiel actor told the crowd at SPN Indy Supernatural 2022 (via YouTuber Carrie Novak):

Misha Collins is the latest actor to play Harvey Dent in live-action, following Nicholas D’Agosto, who appeared in a handful of early Gotham episodes, but never became Two-Face. While I can understand Collins being worried about certain individuals now calling him Two-Face derogatorily, overall, he sounds impressed with what he’s seen he’s seen of Gotham Knights so far. However, assuming Gotham Knights gets picked up to series, don’t expect to see Collins’ Harvey have half his face scarred right away. Collins continued:

Age is but a number… but yeah, going off the main Gotham Knights cast members so far, he will indeed be its resident old person. If you haven’t been keeping track of Gotham Knights’ development, the project sees Bruce Wayne’s adopted son (a new character named Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan), teaming up with some familiar Batman-Family youths from the comics to keep Gotham City safe and uncover the truth behind Bruce’s murder. Gotham Knights’ lineup also includes Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Olivia Rose Keegan as Harvey Dent’s daughter Duela, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown and Rahart Adams as Brody. The pilot was penned by Batwoman writers Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams.

After more than a decade of playing one of God's angels on Supernatural, it's only...natural...that star Misha Collins would want to take on a more devilish role after that show's record-breaking run. (Maybe not in the religious sense, but at least in the way of Evil with a capital E.) And so it's with great joy that we celebrate the actor's own reveal that he'll be returning to the CW for the upcoming Gotham Knights pilot to play one of Batman's most legendary villains.

Fans should get used to Misha Collins' handsome mug as is, because it might look a little different by the time we see him in action on Gotham Knights, as he'll be playing Gotham City's most dual-minded legal eagle, Harvey Dent, a.k.a. Two-Face. Collins shared the news on Twitter in the early hours, so check it out below!

Details are obviously up in the air at the moment, as far as whether he'll be portraying Harvey Dent as is, or if the Two-Face element will be involved. One would think because he specifically posted a pic of Aaron Eckhart's Two-Face post-transformation, he's hinting at already being on the villainous side of things. But then, fans also met a pre-acid-washed Harvey on Gotham without ever witnessing the full-blown villain. Maybe it'll all come down to a simple coin flip.

While Gotham Knights is clearly enveloped in the world of Batman and Bruce Wayne, it'll be yet another CW series that avoids using the Dark Knight as a main character, and this show (like the same-named video game) will instead focus on his family of sidekicks. It'll be the first time fans will see some of these iconic comic book characters in live-action, from Harper Row's Bluebird to Robin/Batwoman Carrie Kelley. This new project is also astoundingly introducing a NEW adopted ward of Bruce's in the character Turner Hayes. 

What's amusingly interesting is that, within the pages of the New 52's Batman series, Harper Row's brother Cullen, who will be one of Gotham Knights' main characters, is actually a fan of Supernatural. So if anybody is going to potentially recognize Misha Collins as possibly being someone other than Harvey Dent, it'll be Cullen. 

Gotham Knights is obviously still in the pilot stage, so it's unclear whether the show will get a full series order on The CW, which just this week issued renewals for a slew of its original series, including The Flash, which many fans thought could be pulling out after the current one. Perhaps that's as good a sign as any that the network is sticking to its heroic guns even after rumors of other companies stepping in to buy it up. 

Misha Collins isn't the only one going from Supernatural to superheroics, as Jensen Ackles will relatively soon be seen as the hotheaded supe Soldier Boy in Season 3 of Prime Video's The Boys. To that end, I have to wonder if Harvey Dent will actually be more of a "good guy" than Soldier Boy.

Supernatural came to a fairly definitive and and divisive end back in November 2020 after 15 seasons, but that long-running TV universe may already be returning to The CW in the form of a spinoff. Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is developing a prequel that would center on John and Mary Winchester in the decades before Sam and Dean picked up the family business of saving people and hunting things. Fittingly called The Winchesters, the timeline presumably means that most Supernatural stars wouldn't be able to reprise their characters, but there are definitely some who could and should make an appearance in some form or other.

The Winchesters is still in the development stage and has only received a script commitment, so the project is still a ways off from potentially getting a series order. So far, the only confirmed member of the cast is Jensen Ackles himself, who would contribute as narrator of the story of Dean's parents' relationship before he was born. It's not clear when Dean would be telling the story, or who he would be telling it to, but it's probably safe to say that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith won't be reprising their roles as the original versions of John and Mary.

As for stars who could reprise their roles and would fit well into a Supernatural prequel series, keep on scrolling! We'll start with some human characters.

Matt Cohen (John Winchester)

Matt Cohen is an obvious candidate to appear in The Winchesters, as the actor who has already played the younger version of John Winchester in multiple episodes and remained connected to the series by directing an episode of the final season. Currently 38-years-old, Cohen might not be too old to reprise his role as John, depending on when in the timeline the action would go down. That said, Cohen has already cleared the air on Instagram and said that he's "not involved" in the spinoff at this point, but he also said that he's "excited" to watch the Winchester story continue and used #SPNFAMILY while posting several images of him as young John. So we shouldn't rule him out, in the event of The Winchesters scoring a series order!

Amy Gumenick (Mary Winchester)

Another obvious candidate to turn up in The Winchesters is 35-year-old Amy Gumenick, who appeared alongside Matt Cohen to play young Mary in several episodes. Mary was the hunter back in the early years, and later Supernatural reveals about John and Mary's challenging relationship may mean that Gumenick would play very different layers of the character if she returned to the role. Shortly after the news broke of Jensen Ackles' new Supernatural project, she too hit Instagram with a throwback to her Supernatural days to post an image of the Winchester family during one of Sam and Dean's journey's to the past, although she included the hashtag of #justathrowback. Don't count on Gumenick at this point even if Ackles gets good news about the spinoff, but don't count her out!

Mitch Pileggi (Samuel Campbell)

Former The X-Files actor Mitch Pileggi made his Supernatural debut in Season 4 as Samuel Campbell, the father of Mary, grandfather of Sam and Dean, and Sam's namesake. In true family style, Samuel was killed more than once during his time on the series, although the last time was permanent. The first death happened when Azazel attacked the Campbell family, and Samuel wasn't resurrected until later, so there may be a narrow window in The Winchesters that Samuel could appear. If the spinoff intends to tell John and Mary's story before they were married, Pileggi's character could definitely have a part to play. Plus, Pileggi stuck around The CW and has a role on Jared Padalecki's Walker, so he's just a couple degrees of separation away from Jensen Ackles' project already.

Now, let's dive into some stars playing celestial characters who could return!

Misha Collins (Castiel)

Misha Collins' Castiel was actually responsible for Dean's first blast to the past, and Cas' time travel abilities mean that he could turn up without contradicting his canon ending in Season 15. After all, fans didn't see Cas every single second of his existence after his introduction, so The Winchesters could definitely have Castiel pop up from time to time from before the death that stuck. Collins admittedly doesn't look exactly as he did back when he filmed his first few seasons, but fans have suspended their disbelief for much crazier things when it comes to Supernatural! Plus, if Dean is narrating from the afterlife, Cas could turn up (or voice cameo) in that way. Collins also pitched a scenario for an appearance on the show on Twitter, suggesting that it "would benefit from a time-traveling angel-in-a-trenchcoat character." No arguments here!

Julie McNiven (Anna)

Another angel who had parts to play in the past and the present was Anna, played by Julie McNiven. Anna was one of the earlier angels introduced on Supernatural, and the first of Dean's arguably two celestial love interests, but she died as a result of her efforts to kill John and Mary to prevent Sam and Dean from being born. While she met her end when the archangel Michael killed her, her time travel capabilities when she was alive mean she could appear on The Winchesters as long as her visits to the past happened before she died. McNiven commented on Misha Collins' tweet about Castiel turning up on the spinoff, saying "Agreed!" before jokingly asking if Collins was talking about Cas. She's not out of the running for an angelic appearance.

Matt Ward (Uriel)

The angel Uriel made an appearance during one of Dean's journeys to the past, although played by Matt Ward rather than Robert Wisdom, who originated the role on Supernatural. Uriel's vessel was younger when he was in the mix in 1978, and Uriel himself didn't die until years later when he proved himself a traitor and was stabbed by Anna as a result. Ward only appeared in one episode of Supernatural, and went on to score roles in shows like A Million Little Things and The Bold Type, but he's still a possibility to reprise his role for The Winchesters if it scores a series order, and if it includes angels. If not, however, there are other stars who could reprise their roles without bringing angels into the mix.

Ruth Connell (Rowena)

Ruth Connell played a character who debuted as a villain but ultimately turned out to be an ally for Sam and Dean: Rowena. Despite being killed and resurrected more than once, she did die for good and went to Hell in Season 15... only to become Queen of Hell. Rowena was centuries old by the time she made her first Supernatural appearance, so she could definitely appear during John and Mary's time without any issues with canon. Plus, Connell commented on the potential Winchesters spinoff via the Instagram post of Danneel Ackles, who is executive producing the potential spinoff with her husband. Connell said that she reckons "Rowena was active on the DISCO scene - just sayin." It would just be wrong if viewers don't get Disco Rowena now that Connell has put it out there, right?

Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester)

Jensen Ackles is obviously already involved in the project, and he would serve as the narrator, so there's no question of whether or not he would be reprising his role as Dean. There is the question of whether or not he could appear in front of the camera. Supernatural ended with Dean dead and in Heaven, and established that both of his parents were in Heaven as well. If Dean is narrating from the afterlife, he could theoretically appear on screen from time to time instead of just as a voice narrating what happens. Ackles hasn't commented either way about appearing on screen, but said on Instagram that the project will "hit the waypoints that have been set and fill in the rest in a way you never expected." Maybe that includes Dean in the flesh!

Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester)

Unlike Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki has not been involved in the development of The Winchesters at this point, and in fact took to Twitter to express that he was blindsided by the news that Ackles has been working on continuing the Supernatural story. While the two former on-screen brothers eventually exchanged much friendlier posts on Twitter, there is still no news about whether or not Padalecki will have a part to play. If Dean is narrating and the story focuses on John and Mary, then perhaps there's no reason for Sam to be involved. A lot likely depends on when Dean is narrating from. If he's speaking in the afterlife... well, Sam is dead and in Heaven too as of the end of the series, so it would be fitting if he could at least return for a voice cameo.

All of this said, the first order of business for now may simply be to wait and find out if The Winchesters is going to get a pilot order that would require casting beyond Jensen Ackles as narrator. Still, it's fun to imagine who The Winchesters could bring on board if it does become an actual series. Supernatural broke a lot of its own rules over its years on The CW, so I'm not willing to rule much out from happening if John and Mary get their own show.

For now, you can always check out the 15 seasons of the original series streaming on Netflix now. As for Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, Ackles will have a part to play on The Boys when it returns to Amazon for Season 3, and Padalecki is still going strong on The CW as star of Walker.

Supernatural is back in the news again despite coming to an end with the series finale back in November, thanks to the announcement of Jensen Ackles' prequel plans and Jared Padalecki's subsequent reaction to it. The two actors played the Winchester brothers for 15 seasons and more than 325 episodes, but Padalecki revealed on social media that he had no idea that Ackles had been working on a Supernatural prequel with a series of angry tweets. Now, however, the former on-screen brothers have seemingly made up.

The Supernatural social media storm started on Twitter on June 24 shortly after news broke of Jensen Ackles developing The Winchesters as a prequel series centered on John and Mary Winchester. After Ackles tweeted the announcement, Jared Padalecki responded with a tweet revealing he found out about the project via Twitter and was "bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever." He followed up with another tweet to confirm that he wasn't joking and was "gutted" by the news. His tune began to change the next day, however.

Jared Padalecki took to Twitter on June 25 to thank fans for the love, and to ask them not to "send any hate or threats" because he cares deeply about everybody involved, then followed up with news that longtime Supernatural followers were undoubtedly happy to see:

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have had the conversation that they evidently should have had before the news of the spinoff if they'd wanted to avoid the Twitter storm of fans taking sides and sharing their confusion. And Padalecki is certainly correct that the Winchesters spinoff is early in the process of becoming a show. The project is only in development and received a script commitment, which is short of a pilot order and far from a series order. Will Padalecki become involved in the project if it moves forward?

Only time will tell on that front, but Jensen Ackles didn't let Jared Padalecki's comment to fans stand alone. He posted a reply on Twitter that indicates the sense of family is still there despite all of the drama of the previous night. Ackles said:

The former on-screen brothers have certainly both been busy following the delayed end of Supernatural. Jared Padalecki jumped right from playing Sam Winchester on Supernatural to Cordell Walker on The CW's Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, and Jensen Ackles landed a role in the highly-anticipated third season of The Boys as well as getting to work on developing the next try at a Supernatural spinoff.

Another former Supernatural star chimed in on Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles' exchange, with Misha Collins hitting Twitter to post a reply to Padalecki's message to Ackles:

Interestingly, Misha Collins' response to the initial news of the Winchesters spinoff was much more lighthearted than Jared Padalecki's, as he suggested that the new show would benefit from a "time-traveling angel-in-a-trenchcoat character." Taking the timeline of the potential new show into consideration, it would actually make more sense for Collins to appear in the flesh than either Jarred Padalecki or Jensen Ackles as their iconic characters!

Considering The CW's Supernatural wrapped up its epic 15-season run back in November 2020, fans have certainly gone a while without having star Misha Collins as a regular presence on their TVs. (At least not counting rewatches on Netflix, that is.) So it was quite a shock for many when Collins' familiar face popped up on the 93rd annual Academy Awards telecast, since he wasn't a direct part of any of this year's big nominees, and fans' curiosity about his presence was enough to get his name trending on Twitter.

While it would have been wild for Misha Collins to be at the Oscars as part of some stealth reveal for a Supernatural spinoff movie devoted to Castiel - as improbable as such a thing would be - he still very much indeed had an awesome and celebratory reason to be present. Though this info wasn't immediately available while fans were expressing their adoration for the actor, here's Collins' explanation for being around for Hollywood's biggest night.

It was indeed a pretty solid night for filmmaker Darius Marder, who both co-wrote and directed the heavily nominated music-centric drama Sound of Metal, which was one of CinemaBlend's favorite movies of 2020. Though star Riz Ahmed didn't win for Best Actor, and the film didn't win for Best Picture of Best Screenplay, Sound of Metal did take home the Oscars for both Best Sound and Best Achievement in Film Editing. So here's hoping Marder and Misha Collins got to enjoy some joyous celebrations after the ceremony was over. (Or even during the ceremony itself, because why not?)

There no doubt that Misha Collins fans would love to see him taking on tons of new roles in the near future, the actor's upcoming slate is unfortunately not so stacked, at least not with publicly revealed projects. Speaking of Riz Ahmed, his upcoming sci-fi flick Invasion will feature an uncredited appearance from Collins, but that's unfortunately about it. So I guess it's yet another rewatch of Supernatural on Netflix.

Fifteen years. Fifteen seasons. 327 episodes. That is how long the beauty that was Supernatural graced the screens of fans, and it sadly came to an end in 2020. However, just because fans aren’t going to see the adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester anymore, it doesn’t mean that the actors still aren’t around to watch.

Even though the Supernatural cast has gone their separate ways and is working on different projects, there are still several ways for you to view the Supernatural cast from afar, whether that be Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, or any of your favorite angels or demons. These are the best shows or movies to watch if you’re missing the cast. And, of course, a mild spoiler warning for this list, as well.

Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester)

The elder of the Winchesters in Supernatural, Dean has always been a protective figure in Sam’s life, always trying to keep him alive and give him a better life, the one that he deserved. Dean, out of everyone in this show, arguably went through the most trauma, but Jensen Ackles is perfectly fine in real life.

You can actually find Ackles in multiple big-time TV shows throughout his career. Pre-Supernatural, Ackles had a main role on Days of Our Lives as a young Eric Brady from 1997-2000, earning him several Daytime Emmy nominations. Not only that, but he had reoccurring roles both on Smallville and Dawson’s Creek. Ackles has also been in a couple of movies as well, one being My Bloody Valentine 3D, a slasher horror film that was centered around Valentine’s Day. Surely something to watch with your sweetheart this upcoming February 14.

Keep an eye out, though, because Ackles will soon be making an appearance as Soldier Boy in The Boys when Season 3 premieres on Amazon Prime.

Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester)

Sam Winchester always seemed to be the brains behind the operations on Supernatural, so it’s only fitting that he was the one who ended up with a normal life near the end of the series. Luckily, Jared Padalecki, the man behind Sam, has plenty of options for fans of his work to watch.

What really brought Padalecki to the spotlight was his recurring – later main – role as Dean on Gilmore Girls earlier in the 2000s, as well as his guest appearance on the most recent spinoff of the original show, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. In regards to movies, one of his well-known gigs was his starring role in the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th. If you want to watch something more current, check out Walker on The CW. Padalecki has been working on the remake of the classic character from Walker, Texas Ranger, and the new series just premiered. Fun fact – his wife (whom he met on Supernatural) has a recurring appearance in this, as well!

Misha Collins (Castiel)

Castiel was everyone’s favorite angel. Over the course of Supernatural, he became a valued member of the Winchester monster-hunting team and developed touching relationships with both Winchester boys. While his ending was undeniably sad, we can always look forward to what the actor has coming up.

Misha Collins, the man behind Castiel, does have a new sci-fi movie titled Invasion coming out at some point in the future, but in regards to what you can watch him on now, there are several different options. If you’re leaning more towards a romantic comedy, check out Collins in Over Her Dead Body. He has a smaller role, but it’s still memorable among the many stars in this film.

For a psychological thriller, look no further than Karla, where Collins really shows off his acting chops portraying the real-life serial killer, Paul Bernardo. For a third option, simply watch the “Misha Collins” episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, the classic improvisational television show, and laugh your butt off for a half-hour.

Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer)

Known to be the surrogate father to the Winchester boys for a good half of the series, Bobby Singer was a sweet man who was sadly taken from Supernatural way back in Season 7, creating conflict for fans of the character. However, just because Bobby was long gone doesn’t mean that Jim Beaver is as well.

Beaver has been in plenty of genres of both TV and movies. We start out this list with Deadwood, the popular HBO western show, where he played Whitney Ellsworth for two years. Beaver has also stepped into the gothic/romance genre as a co-star in Crimson Peak, the Guillermo del Toro film that is heavily inspired by other horror films. If you want to go way back, Beaver actually had a role in the absolute classic, Sister Act, even if the role was smaller than some of his others.

For a more recent role, however, check him out on The Boys, where he actually plays a character titled Robert “Bob” Singer – talk about a strange Supernatural crossover. Wait until Jensen Ackles shows up. It's going to be some reunion.

Mark Sheppard (Crowley)

While Crowley was one of the main villains of Supernatural for years from his debut in Season 5 until Season 12, there is no doubt that Mark Sheppard did a fantastic job of portraying him. Crowley was known to be the “King of Hell” for a reason, but Sheppard somehow brought a charisma to the otherwise terrifying being, and that just shows how awesome of an actor he truly is.

If you’re missing Sheppard, there are several TV shows that you can catch him in. For all you space fans out there, Sheppard had a recurring role as Romo Lampkin in SyFy's Battlestar Galactica. Although, there will be a new remake of the classic series arriving on Peacock in the near future.

Sheppard also had another recurring role as James Sterling in Leverage, an action-crime TV series that follows a heist team. If neither of these is your cup of tea, maybe check out another sci-fi series, Firefly, where Sheppard has another recurring role, this time as Badger, a smuggler. Many cult fans of Firefly believe that the series was canceled far too soon, so give it a shot. You just might enjoy it. But who knows? Maybe if Firefly had taken off, we might not have seen his Crowley.

Mark Pellegrino (Lucifer)

Lucifer was always a strange fellow in Supernatural, considering he took many forms – even going so far as to possess the bodies of the main characters on certain occasions. But, the main face that everyone knows him by is Nick, portrayed by Mark Pellegrino, a man that became a vessel for Lucifer when he first appeared on Supernatural.

Fortunately, Pellegrino has plenty of other options to pick from that don’t make him look like the devil incarnate. For people who tend to lean towards teen drama, Pellegrino took on the role of Deputy Bill Standall in 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, a story (initially) about how a girl took her own life. If that sounds a bit too heavy, lean towards Lost, the legendary TV show about a group of plane crash survivors on a crazy island. Pellegrino has a recurring role near the end of the popular series.

If you’re into thrillers, check out Pellegrino as FBI Deputy Director Clayton Haas on Quantico, the story of how a former FBI recruit becomes a prime suspect for a terrorist attack. If that still doesn’t sit right, maybe you lean more towards another supernatural show. In that case, watch Being Human, which follows a werewolf, vampire, and ghost who live together as roommates, with plenty of great moments for fans of the actor to enjoy.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (John Winchester)

It is a shame that John Winchester was only on Supernatural for a couple of seasons, but even so, he still gained a fan following for the not-so-perfect father that he was. At the end of the day, he always tried protect his sons. Jeffrey Dean Morgan did an excellent job of portraying him, even when he suddenly reappeared in the fourteenth season, during their 300th episode.

But, luckily for fans, Morgan has been keeping his schedule packed in regards to shows and movies you can see him in. For lovers of action, head on over to HBO Max and watch Rampage, the film based on the video game series, where Morgan portrays Harvey Russell, a government agent. If action isn’t up your alley, revisit one of Morgan’s first big breaks in Hollywood – when he played Denny Duquette on the hit hospital drama, Grey’s Anatomy.

For history lovers, fear not, as Morgan has gone on to play the famous baseball player, Joe DiMaggio, in the Lifetime miniseries The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, where he portrays Monroe’s second husband. But, arguably, Morgan’s biggest role since his departure from Supernatural has been playing Negan, the once-leader of the Saviors, on The Walking Dead, for which he has won multiple awards. If horror/gore is your go-to, this is the show for you, and Morgan does an unforgettable job.

Even though Supernatural has ended and the Winchester boys are done for good in their monster-hunting, at least we have the cast to still watch and admire. Who do you miss from Supernatural and want to see again?

With a career that was mainly driven for 20 years by the dramas Gilmore Girls and Supernatural, actor Jared Padalecki took on a different kind of gig when he signed on to bring a Walker, Texas Ranger reboot to life for his longtime home at The CW. The revised take on Chuck Norris' western actioner made its debut on Thursday night, and beyond the many fans who spoke up in praise of Padalecki's work in the new Walker, several of the actor's Supernatural co-stars also shared their thoughts on social media.

First and foremost is Jared Padalecki's former TV brother Jensen Ackles, who starred Dean Winchester for 15 years on Supernatural. Ackles might have been a little disappointed by the new Walker's shift away from random roundhouse kicks to focus on modern-day policing, but I'd like to think seeing Padalecki's scruffy beard was a sweet consolation.

Fans probably shouldn't anticipate seeing Jensen Ackles appearing on Walker anytime soon, even the new show's cast does include a couple of other Supernatural vets. Ackles is set to begin filming for the third season of Amazon's The Boys, which will probably keep him busy for a while.

Speaking of keeping busy, Jared Padalecki's former TV dad Jeffrey Dean Morgan is gearing up for a big return on The Walking Dead for the upcoming episodes in the extended Season 10. (Amusingly enough, while Genevieve Padalecki appears on Walker as her real-life husband's fictional late wife, Morgan's real-world wife Hilarie Burton will make her debut as Negan's long-dead wife Lucille in those episodes.) In any case, Morgan shared a pride-oozing post in honor of Padalecki's work on Walker.

Like a true gentleman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan also gave some love to Genevieve Padalecki while championing her hubby for his acting and his executive producing. As it happens, Jared Padalecki originally envisioned Jensen Ackles in the role of Cordell Walker, though that obviously didn't happen.

Supernatural's Ruth Connell, who recurred throughout many seasons as Crowley's mother Rowena, also shared her love for Walker once the episode hit the airwaves.

It wouldn't be a proper Supernatural party without Misha Collins being involved, though he was having some issues with catching the Walker premiere live on The CW, thanks to fellow Supernatural vet Richard Speight, Jr.'s media set-up.

After 15 seasons and 328 episodes, Supernatural ended its run on The CW. While the beloved series focused its final episode on Sam and Dean, the angel Castiel got his very own emotional farewell a couple of episodes prior to the series finale. However, Castiel's admission of love plays out a lot differently in the Spanish dubbed version of the episode. Now, Misha Collins is setting the record straight for fans who are confused by the scene’s changes.

In the Season 15 episode “Despair,” Castiel tells Dean that he loves him. Dean is floored, but his response isn’t a reciprocation of his feelings. Rather, “Don’t do this, Cas” is what Dean says instead, referring to Cas getting himself taken by The Empty. A video circulating on Twitter revealed how the scene was notably different after it was dubbed in Spanish. Dean’s response to Cas’ declaration in Spanish was changed to “Yo a ti, Cas,” which means “I love you, Cas.” Watch it below:

Suffice it to say that some fans were thrilled that this version exists because it righted a perceived wrong for those who believed Dean and Castiel should have become a romantic couple on Supernatural. Other viewers were just plain confused about the dialogue change. Misha Collins got wind of the viral video and took to Twitter to clear the air. Here’s what he said:

It sure sounds like Misha Collins is rather displeased by this “rogue translator.” I personally like the way that Collins explained Castiel’s declaration of love and how it helped save the world. In an additional tweet, Collins also stated that Dean was “too stunned” by Castiel’s admission to reply at the time, but that the translator decided what should be said instead.

He goes on to say that he loves Supernatural fans and their passion. Misha Collins, above all, wants to celebrate the show’s message of “good triumphing over the forces of evil” and believes the world is better off because Supernatural's existence. I think one of the most important things here is Misha Collins’ confirmation that Castiel didn’t die and stay gone forever. Rather, the angel went on to rebuild heaven. It’s something that Castiel has long wanted to do because he was previously disturbed by how much corruption there was in its ranks. I’m hoping the actor’s message sets fans’ minds at ease on all fronts.

After fifteen seasons, Supernatural bid us farewell this past week with a relatively divisive series finale. Considering how things panned out, many are probably wondering how many viewers tuned in to see how Sam and Dean Winchester’s story ended. Well, the ratings for the veteran horror drama’s final bow are in, and they're pretty fascinating.

Supernatural went out with a bang. The show’s series finale drew in 1.38 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the prized 18-49 demo, per The Hollywood Reporter. Those numbers easily marked Supernatural’s largest-watched same-day audience in nearly two years. The last time ratings were that high was in April 2019 during the final episodes of Season 14. And the series finale wasn't the only Supernatural-related episode to draw an audience.

A lot of Supernatural fans wanted to head down memory lane ahead of the finale. The preceding retrospective special, Supernatural: The Long Way Home, garnered a healthy 1.2 million viewers while maintaining the series finale’s 0.3 demo rating. The highly anticipated series finale was Initially set to end earlier this year in May 2020, but it was ultimately delayed due to the industry-wide production shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Supernatural ran out of new episodes in March, with showrunner Andrew Dabb making the official announcement in a social media message. It was a bittersweet development that did give fans a bit more time before they had to say goodbye to the show. Jensen Ackles also thought the filming hiatus wasn't an entirely bad thing, as it gave the cast time to refresh before heading into the series’ final installments.

The CW drama closed out with an emotional penultimate episode before kicking it old school for the conclusion. In it, Cas turned out not to be the latest death that Supernatural would suffer. But in heartbreaking development, Dean was killed in the series finale. He made it to Heaven, though, and Sam (who went onto have a son named Dean) would eventually join him there in his old age.

The divisive conclusion has since led to lots of thoughts and feelings across the fanbase. It was a finale that was fifteen years and countless emotions in the making, after all. Supernatural had braced fans for whether they would witness Sam and Dean finding peace and, in the end, they found that peace in the afterlife.

On the bright side, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki will be back on TV sooner than later. Ackles has The Boys Season 3 coming up in which he will star as Soldier Boy, and Jared Padalecki will be headlining The CW’s Walker, Texas Ranger reboot. For fans, it will undoubtedly be weird to see the actors no longer working together.

However you felt about it, Supernatural has ended, which is a sad thing by its nature, but you mend your broken heart with 2021’s winter/spring schedule. Spoilers ahead for the Supernatural: The Long Road Home special presentation on The CW.

The long road to the end of Supernatural has come to an end, but not without a special presentation that revisited the highs and lows of the saga, including one of the most iconic scenes of the whole series: Castiel's epic entrance. Back before Cas went ahead and raised Dean from Perdition, Dean didn't even believe that there was such a thing as angels. Then, he and Bobby summoned whoever dragged Dean up from Hell, and Castiel arrived to change the entire show forever. Misha Collins recalled his reaction to Cas' entrance in the Season 4 premiere, and it's pretty funny in hindsight.

In the Long Road Home retrospective, Misha Collins took fans back to his thought process upon Castiel's arrival:

It's almost hard to remember a time on Supernatural when Castiel wasn't a key part of the story, and Misha Collins has certainly been the third lead of the series after Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Cas may have died and come back more than any other major character with the exception of Dean, who racked up quite a death count back in Season 3. Blood, sweat, and tears have been shed for and by Cas.

So, in the grand scheme of things, I think it's pretty funny that Misha Collins wasn't sure how much he could take based off of his character's entrance all those years ago. If only he knew then all that was going to happen with Cas over the 11 seasons to come! Between the bonkers plot twists, Castiel's many deaths, the meta outings, and the behind-the-scenes shenanigans among the cast, things were only going to get crazier.

Of course, the Castiel who got the iconic entrance was a far cry from the angel who would fall from Heaven and ultimately give himself up to the Empty out of love for Dean and humanity. Misha Collins went on in the Long Road Home special to comment on how far Cas came over his 11 seasons on Supernatural:

While fans will likely debate forever what exactly Cas meant in his confession of love to Dean before giving himself up to The Empty, the penultimate episode revealing "Castiel" carved into the wood table in the bunker along with Sam, Dean, and Mary's initials (and Jack's name) says everything about what Cas meant to the Winchesters and the show.

Thanks to Castiel's big speech before sacrificing himself to The Empty, I think it's fair to say that this was an example of love at first stab! Even other angels have said that Cas was lost as soon as he laid a hand on Dean to raise him from Hell and became part of the Winchester saga, and Sam and Dean's journey would have ended a lot sooner if Cas hadn't fallen.

Supernatural is coming down to the wire, and fans are feeling the tension. In Episode 17, the drama laid down another twist. Chuck left a horrified Dean and Sam to watch Jack die, and Misha Collins teases that the episode that directly follows the harrowing cliffhanger will be “tragic.” Is someone really about to get killed off of Supernatural’s final season? Here is what Collins had to say on this week’s installment.

First, it is important to put some things in context. Supernatural is heading towards the end, but this week's Episode 18 is not the penultimate episode. As of Episode 17, there are still three episodes left of the long-running drama’s final season. Regardless, this will be a huge episode, as Misha Collins told EW:

If you thought that Episode 17 lacked a strong dose of Cas, expect 18 to set that straight. Supernatural will see Cas more front and center, according to Misha Collins, and that is not all. Cas will finally get his “chapter,” told as Jack’s life hangs in the balance, which begs the question. Will this be the end of the road for Cas, Jack, or neither?

Misha Collins hints that the next episode (aptly titled “Despair”) will be “tragic,” which I take to mean that something sad will happen. The groundwork has been set for something along those lines. Dean, Sam, Cas, and Jack all surviving does not necessarily qualify an episode as tragic, so it seems likely that something stormy is on the horizon. Whatever happens, the drama is coming. Teasing the gravity of Episode 18, Collins said:

Well, that does not sound good. Supernatural fans have been advised to re-watch the show’s early seasons in anticipation of the final episodes. Do they hold the key to how the Winchesters and Cas will be able to get Jack out of his deadly jam? Stay tuned. Answers are coming in the form of Episode 18, and they seem dark.

I am guessing that someone will have to deal with death in an up-close-and-personal manner before Supernatural ends. Jack is on death’s door, and it seems reasonable to expect that someone else will die. Sam and Dean are not on the top of my suspect list, considering they are the stars of the show. If one of them were to get killed off, I would expect that in the slightly-altered series finale.

Only a handful of episodes are left before Supernatural ends after fifteen seasons, and The CW's longest-running show is pulling out all the stops. Supernatural actor-turned-director Matt Cohen stepped behind the camera from his role as the young John Winchester to helm the episode that will air on October 15. He's not the first Supernatural star to direct the show, and he revealed to CinemaBlend that Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins both had some tips for him.

Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins have directed seven episodes between them, but they took different tacks in their tips to Matt Cohen. Unsurprisingly considering Jared Padalecki's reputation as a prankster, one star went for a warning about what to try and avoid. Cohen shared what Ackles and Collins had to say:

Although Misha Collins only directed one episode of Supernatural back in Season 9, that experience combined with twelve seasons working with Jared Padalecki evidently was enough for him to warn Matt Cohen about potential shenanigans! Jensen Ackles, on the other hand, has directed six episodes since his directorial debut back in Season 6, so he definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to the challenges of directing Supernatural.

Matt Cohen's episode of Supernatural Season 15 is called "Gimme Shelter," and it will see Castiel and Jack work a case that involves members of a local church, while the Winchesters go off on a search for Amara. Considering the plan to kill God seemingly means that Amara needs to die as well for the world not to end, the visit with Amara (assuming they find her) might not be very friendly, even if she did restore their mom to them for a time.

By this point in Season 15, Matt Cohen is very familiar with the show and the actors, most of whom have been playing their characters for quite a while. That doesn't mean directing an episode of Supernatural was easy, though! Cohen compared directing Supernatural to wanting to nail a task after putting in the work, then said:

Richard Speight Jr. is another example of a Supernatural star who went behind the camera to direct, and he actually directed an episode in which he played Gabriel as well as Supernatural's version of Loki. As for Matt Cohen's turn as director, "Gimme Shelter" stands as one of the very last episodes of a series that has run for a decade and a half, and that's no small deal.

A lot can potentially happen in an hour when there are still plots to be resolved like defeating God, Castiel's deal with The Empty, and whatever the device in the bunker may or may not do, and there's not a ton of time left. Matt Cohen continued, explaining his Supernatural journey and goals for directing:

The very good news is that the extended wait for "Gimme Shelter" as one of the last episodes of Supernatural is almost at an end. The episode was intended to air in the spring, but production shutdowns meant that the effects couldn't be completed even on episodes that had already finished filming.

When Supernatural ends, it will have been on the air for 15 seasons! Hence, you can imagine that Jared Padalecki and his fellow cast members have a lot of favorite moments from the show’s incredible run. Padalecki has shared a few of his favorites, and he is not alone, with co-stars Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Alexander Calvert waxing nostalgic as well.

Let us start with the future Walker, Texas Ranger star himself, Jared Padalecki. The Supernatural actor has already shared his resolutions for 2020, and now he is enlightening fans about some of his favorite moments from the show’s 15 seasons. What made his top picks? Well, one of Padalecki’s first choices involved This Is Us’ Sterling K. Brown. Padalecki told TV Guide:

How sweet! Little did Sam know at the time that his relationship with his brother and father would get an in-depth revisit when his dad returned for Supernatural’s 300th episode. In related news, Sterling K. Brown called his time on The CW hit one of his “favorite experiences in front of the camera” on Twitter when Supernatural announced it would be ending with Season 15.

What was Jared Padalecki’s next favorite Supernatural moment? The former Gilmore Girls actor hilariously kept switching between his own favorite bits and what he believed his character Sam’s would be. His second pick had personal significance for both Padalecki and his character, though probably more for Padalecki, considering his screen partner became his wife and the mother of his children. Padalecki said:

Yowzah, yowzah! As Jensen Ackles pointed out, “Ruby” was played by Jared Padalecki’s future wife, Genevieve Cortese, who made her first appearance on Supernatural in Season 4. The couple married in 2004 and have three children together! What's more, she'll actually be returning to Supernatural before its final season is up, along with Danneel Ackles, Jensen's wife.

When Supernatural wrapped its penultimate season, Padalecki posted an adorable picture of his and Genevieve's daughter applying his make-up. On that lovely note, Padalecki shared some things that Sam was glad to have missed on Supernatural, saying:

Jared Padalecki could not help having a bit more fun at the expense of Jensen Ackles' Dean with his other fond memories. Supernatural had a James Bond-style idea for Dean that ended up not getting used. However, a certain fear of his has remained a staple ever since. According to Padalecki:

Dean may have some concerns to overcome, but it has not kept him from going John Wick on Supernatural. As you would suspect, Jared Padalecki’s long-time co-star and Dean’s portrayer, Jensen Ackles, has some favorite moments of his own! Enlightening fans as to what they are, Ackles laid out his number one memory:

Intense! I think everyone can appreciate not getting an excruciating hit between the legs.

Note that Alexander Calvert’s third favorite moment happens in Supernatural’s SERIES finale, the same one that Jensen Ackles said he had “so much trouble” with. How Supernatural will arrive at its ultimate ending has changed since Season 15 started, so stay tuned to see how exciting it's going to be. Since 2005, Supernatural has been a powerhouse series. It is the CW’s longest running show and one of the longest running TV dramas ever. The success of Supernatural is no surprise with its dedicated fanbase and lovable cast of characters. For fifteen seasons, viewers have tuned in to see Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) fight the forces of evil. In Season 15, the Winchester brothers take on their final demons, paranormal monsters, and mythical creatures when the series reaches its end.

Currently, Dean and Sam are in a glorious battle against God (Rob Benedict). This type of battle only has one logical conclusion: death and destruction. With quite a few episodes left in the season, the fate of Dean and Sam is still yet to be determined. All Supernatural fans can hope for is a satisfying series finale. For fifteen seasons, the Supernatural crew created a thrilling, refreshing, and enjoyable show. It’s sad to see it go, but we’re excited to see the cast’s upcoming projects.

Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester)

Jared Padalecki plays one-half of the dynamic Winchester brother duo. Sam is the younger, more serious of the brothers. Prior to Supernatural, Padalecki was best known for playing Dean on Gilmore Girls. Briefly, he revised that role for the limited Gilmore Girls Netflix series. His best-known movie roles were in the horror films House of Wax and Friday the 13th.

In September 2019, Jared Padalecki joined the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot as executive producer and star. The reboot will just be called Walker and he’ll take on the role made famous by Chuck Norris. In January, the CW officially became the home of this new Walker series.

Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester)

Jensen Ackles plays protective older brother Dean in Supernatural. His early acting career includes a series regular role as Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives. After leaving the daytime soaps, Ackles appeared on the short-lived series Dark Angel and had recurring roles on Dawson’s Creek and Smallville. He also had a lead role in the horror movie My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Jensen Ackles hasn’t made any big project announcements yet. However, he revealed during the CW Television Critics Association panel that his wife wants him back to work immediately. He joked about wanting a long vacation, but she preferred that he start working again soon. Jensen Ackles directed a few episodes of Supernatural, so he could follow in fellow former CW star Paul Wesley’s footsteps and take on some future acting and directing gigs. Ackles should enjoy the break while he can, because we’re sure he’ll be back in front or behind the lens very soon.

Misha Collins (Castiel)

Misha Collins plays angel Castiel. Castiel didn’t enter the Supernatural world until Season 4. He then had a recurring role off and on through the years, until officially becoming a permanent series regular from Season 9 to current. Quickly Castiel became a fan favorite character and an important piece of the Supernatural ensemble.

Misha Collins has had a long list of guest appearances on shows like Charmed, CSI, ER, and Nip/Tuck. Collins appeared in the movies Girl, Interrupted and Karla. Misha Collins has also not announced any future movie or television plans. However, Collins and his wife Vicki Collins recently published a cookbook called The Adventurous Eaters Club: Mastering the Art of Family Mealtime. Misha and Vicki Collins' book seems to be selling well, so maybe he'll take time off from acting to write more books with his wife and kids. We'll have to wait and see.

Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer)

Bobby Singer has been one of Supernatural’s longest running recurring characters. He’s appeared in at least one episode of all fifteen seasons. Bobby hunts paranormal creatures and has become a father figure to the Winchester brothers. Jim Beaver holds many job titles. He’s written, produced, and directed films. He’s also written articles, plays, and books. Jim Beaver’s books have been about John Garfield, the history of Blockbusters, and his own life. His memoir is entitled Life’s That Way.

In 2020, Jim Beaver appeared on Young Sheldon Season 3, Episode 13, “Contracts, Rules, and a Little Bit of Pig Brains.” He played a character named Kenneth. Jim Beaver is also set to reprise his role as Secretary of Defense Robert A. Singer in the Season 2 premiere of The Boys. He also has three upcoming films: Blindfire, Gunfight at Silver Creek, and Nightmare Alley. Clearly, Jim Beaver has no plans of slowing down with Supernatural ending.

Samantha Smith (Mary Winchester)

Played by Samantha Smith, Mary Winchester is Dean and Sam’s mother, whose death starts the boys and their father on their hunters’ quest. Like many of the Supernatural characters, she often dies and then gets resurrected, then dies again.

Samantha Smith appeared on blockbuster films like Jerry Maguire and Transformers. She’s also appeared in many hit TV shows like Friends, Seinfeld, NYPD Blue, The Mentalist, and NCIS: Los Angeles. Smith hasn’t made any major project announcements, but she tweeted on January 22 that she was going on her first audition in a while. This probably means we’ll see her on the screen again real soon.

Mark Pellegrino (Lucifer)

Mark Pellegrino plays the Devil himself Lucifer in Supernatural. Lucifer has been one of the Winchester boys’ biggest foes for a majority of the series. He’s currently out of action, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he makes at least one more appearance before Supernatural's final curtain call.

Mark Pellegrino has had recurring, guest, and series regular roles in many TV series including NYPD Blue, Dexter, Lost, Quantico, and 13 Reasons Why. Likely Mark Pellegrino will reprise his role as Deputy Standall aka Alex (Miles Heizer)’s dad in 13 Reasons Why’s final season. Pellegrino is also set to appear in Strangers in a Strange Land, a collection of 12 comedic shorts with connecting themes. His wife, Tracy Pellegrino, is the writer and director of this movie.

Ruth Connell (Rowena MacLeod)

Rowena was the main villain of Supernatural Season 10. She’s Crowley (Mark Sheppard)’s mother and a very powerful witch. As of Season 15, she’s the current Queen of Hell. Ruth Connell is a Scottish actress who has appeared in theater, along with her television, film, and voice-over roles. Since moving to the states, she’s mostly done independent films like The Cursed Man, Meth Head, and Hara Kiri.

Ruth Connell has lent her voice to Brave’s Merida for several Disney games and TV series, such as Disney Infinity 3.0 and LEGO The Incredible games, and for the Disney Junior series Sofia the First. In 2019, she appeared in a movie called Open House and on a Youtube series called Spellagram. Connell will play Lady MacDuff in the ScotWeek production of MacBeth. This production is set for an April 11 premiere, during Scotweek. at the Moss Theater in Santa Monica, CA.

Alexander Calvert (Jack)

Jack is Lucifer’s son and a boy that Dean, Castiel, and Sam have watched and trained. He’s been through a lot these last few seasons. Jack has a major role in this season’s battle against God. Alexander Calvert made television appearances on Bates Motel, The Returned, and Arrow before landing his Supernatural role. He’s also appeared in the movies Good Boys, The Edge of Seventeen, and The Package.

Alexander Calvert’s post-Supernatural schedule seems open. He’ll appear in a short film called Blackout, but doesn’t seem to have other projects lined up at the moment. However, in July 2019, he spoke to an online publication called Boys by Girls and mentioned that he doesn’t like to talk about upcoming projects in case they fall through. Therefore, Alexander Calvert may have a few acting gigs in the works, but is being cautious about sharing them.

Kim Rhodes (Sheriff Jody Mills)

Sheriff Jody Mills runs Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mills often helps Dean and Sam on their cases and occasionally does her own hunting. Jody Mills has been a recurring character on Supernatural since season 5. Kim Rhodes’ most memorable appearances are as Cindy Harrison on Another World and As the World Turns, and as Casey Martin in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck. She played Zack and Cody’s mother on the Suite Life shows.

Kim Rhodes also made a few appearances as Assistant Director Linda Barnes in Criminal Minds and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. Rhodes has appeared in the movies Christmas with the Kranks, Sky High, and Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure. Kim Rhodes and Briana Buckmaster host a podcast called The Wayward Podcast. It’s a lifestyle podcast that gives their insight on being humans trying to find their path. It launched in 2018.

Rob Benedict (God)

God first entered the Winchester’s world as a character named Chuck Shurley. It was later revealed that he was the one and only God. God has been a recurring character since season 4 of Supernatural, and the Winchesters are currently in an end of days type battle with him.

Rob Benedict has a hefty resume of television and movie roles. His most known works include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Felicity, the Birds of Prey series, Alias, Masters of Sex, and Not Another Teen Movie. Rob Benedict will appear in Violet. Violet is set to premiere in March at South by Southwest. Justine Bateman wrote and directed this movie about a film development executive who realizes that her guiding voice is a liar. Olivia Munn plays the title character and Justin Theroux plays her guiding voice.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (John Winchester)

Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Sam and Dean’s beloved father, John. John taught the boys how to be hunters, and his teachings and morals have been an important factor in their quests. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is best known for his TV series roles on Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Wife. He also had roles in the movie Rampage, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, P.S I Love You, and Watchmen.

Since 2016, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has turned his recurring character role into a series regular gig on The Walking Dead as Negan. He has three future movie projects in the work: The Postcard Killings, Walkaway Joe, and Shrine.

Supernatural returns to the CW on March 16, and the series finale is set for May 18. Netflix also has the fourteen prior seasons available to stream.

Spoilers ahead for Episode 2 of Supernatural Season 15, called "Raising Hell."

Sam, Dean, and Castiel faced a huge betrayal by God in Supernatural's Season 14 finale, and Season 15 has already proved that even millions of souls escaping from Hell isn't enough to distract them from it. Dean in particular was already reeling from how Cas concealed Jack's growing darkness, and the reveal that God has been pulling the strings all along only made things worse. Castiel sees things differently, and their different perspectives led to a conflict that left one of the most poignant and popular dynamics of Supernatural a little... well, tense.

Misha Collins, who of course plays Castiel and is headlining Supernatural's Giving Back Tour at the Marriott Burbank Airport from October 18-20, spoke with CinemaBlend about Dean's despair that God has been controlling everything vs. Castiel's stance that they are what's real in the stage God set for them, as well as much more.

Let's start with what went down between Dean and Castiel. When I asked if this disagreement continues to be a point of contention between Cas and Dean and how the relationship dynamics of Supernatural will change, Misha Collins said this:

Fans who are dying to see the guys fall back into an old routine may be bummed to hear that Dean and Castiel's dynamic will be 'strained' for several more episodes, but it makes sense that the death of Mary -- which was arguably partly on Castiel -- and the discovery that God has been writing their stories for their whole lives aren't the sort of issues that can be overcome overnight, especially since there's so much else going on. As long as they can work together!

Cas and the Winchesters have already struggled with containing souls within the confines of one small town, and that's with the help of Rowena, Ketch, and poor unfortunate Kevin, who can't seem to catch a break. Although he's now out of Hell, he can't get into Heaven, so he'll just have to wander the Earth. Interestingly, "Raising Hell" picked up almost exactly after the end of the Season 15 premiere, and the trailer for Episode 3 suggests that the next episode will be a continuation of Episode 2.

Supernatural generally mixes in some standalone episodes after getting off to a mythology-heavy start. Misha Collins gave this response when I asked if fans can expect Season 15 to continue as more serialized than seasons past:

Supernatural showrunner Andrew Dabb did promise some "old familiar faces" brought back by God to toy with the Winchesters. While it's not clear at this point who those familiar faces will be, if they're important enough to be resurrected for the final season, then the odds are pretty good that their returns wouldn't fit into an episode about an evil clown or a tulpa or a rogue vampire. Kevin's return, although not specifically orchestrated by God, wouldn't have made much sense in a non-mythology episode, after all!

Season 15 started off by bringing back some familiar bad guys, including the ghost of John Wayne Gacy to terrify Sam and the Woman in White to take Dean on a blast to the distant past. Misha Collins shared his thoughts on who could return that would be Castiel's worst nightmare, now that all bets are off with God as the big bad:

Well, if Metatron returned, Cas probably wouldn't have to worry about The Empty coming to collect on his deal any time soon! Additionally, Lucifer does have a knack for coming back even when he seems like he's out of the game for good, and with God as the big bad of the final season, could he return? He would be a prime candidate of a character for God to bring back to mess with all the good guys.

Sam and Castiel in particular have reason to want to stay as far away from Lucifer as possible. Dean might be a little bit more nervous about Michael, who may or may not have been sprung from the cage in Adam's body, coming back, but he'd have every reason to be afraid of Lucifer as well. Cupid would be a more amusing return, after he made Cas and the Winchesters uncomfortable back in Season 5 by giving naked hugs.

Since the sky may be the limit for what can happen in Supernatural with God as the top villain, Misha Collins also weighed in on which past versions of Castiel he'd like to play again:

Only time will tell if Misha Collins will have the opportunity to play Lucifer Cas or Human Cas again! The Winchesters will reportedly lose people "in a very real way," so there is plenty to speculate about regarding who will return, what versions of characters will return, and who will say a premature goodbye. With everything Supernatural, it almost seems impossible for anybody involved with the show to have other projects, but Misha Collins has plenty.

In addition to headlining Supernatural's Giving Back Tour (which will feature additional guests like Alexander Calvert, Rob Benedict, Richard Speight Jr., and many more for some interactive fun and charitable acts) this weekend at the Marriott Burbank Airport, Misha Collins and his wife Vicki Collins put together a fresh kind of cookbook called The Adventurous Eaters Club: Mastering the Art of Family Mealtime.

Misha Collins explained why they decided to make the cookbook, saying this:

The Adventurous Eaters Club: Mastering the Art of Family Mealtime, which releases on November 5 and is available for pre-order from Amazon and other retailers now, isn't just going to be a cookbook with nothing but recipe after recipe, with no commentary beyond the list of ingredients.

If this is only one of the recipe stories that will be available, then The Adventurous Eaters Club: Mastering the Art of Family Mealtime sounds like it should be as good fit a for people who may not know Misha Collins as Castiel and Supernatural fans alike.

Sam has his injury from when he shot God in the Season 14 finale to contend with, and showrunner Andrew Dabb has explained how that will be much more important than just another Winchester wound.

Like the Winchester brothers, Supernatural's Castiel is also no stranger to death. Ever since his introduction in Season 4, the angel has died at least five different times. He has been blown to smithereens by Lucifer and, most recently, died at the hands of the reaper April Kelly. So it's safe to say that Misha Collins’ Castiel has made his fair share of sacrifices since his debut (a far cry from his initial loyalty as a soldier of Heaven).

To add to the ever-growing number of potential deaths, Castiel ordered a Winchester special and made a deal with The Empty last season and co-showrunner Andrew Dabb promises that Castiel will have to deal with that in Season 15, saying:

For background info: Season 14 saw Jack die and go to Heaven, but Castiel (lovingly nicknamed Cas) was convinced that the nephilim couldn’t stay there. Without Jack back on Earth, chaos would reign and thousands (maybe millions) of people would die. However, there was a consequence to bringing Jack back: Cas made a deal with the Shadow to save him from being dragged back to The Empty forever.

Cas convinced the Shadow that it could take him instead of Jack (even though Cas was going to wind up there anyway). A soul for a soul. It's definitely a callback to what Dean did for Sam all those years ago. So long as Cas stays alive, though, the less he’ll have to worry about it. Still, the deal is obviously going to come back and haunt him in a big way, per what Andrew Dabb told to TVLine.

It seems Cas can’t catch a break. Given that Supernatural is entering its 15th and final season, the stakes are much higher than usual for all involved. Previously, Andrew Dabb teased that Dean and Sam were going to lose people “in a real way,” implying that future character deaths will likely be final. That’s a major blow for a show where resurrections have become par for the course. Die, come back to life, rinse, repeat.

Even if Cas made a deal with The Empty, there are probably ways to get out of it. After all, Dean was sentenced to eternity in Hell, but he was saved from eternal damnation by Cas. Though Team Free Will has bigger things to worry about heading into Season 15, Dean and Sam will no doubt work to get Cas out of his deal, consequences be damned.

Of course, the trio will have to deal with Cas lying to Sam and Dean about Jack’s problems first (he killed Mary, oops) before they can figure out a plan to save him from his deal with The Empty. Still, it's nice to believe that everything will work itself out in the end.

Supernatural Season 15 premieres Thursday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. If you're not caught up on all 14 seasons, you can now stream them all on Netflix before the new season kicks off.

The CW is losing its longest-running series in the 2019-2020 TV season thanks to the grand finale of Supernatural, and the end of Supernatural probably means the end of crossover opportunities with the Arrow-verse. Considering how wild Supernatural and the shows of the Arrow-verse have gotten over the years, it wouldn't even be that much of a stretch to reveal that they share a world, or at least exist in the same multiverse. Alternately, the Supernatural cast will soon be on the job market. Could they drop by the Arrow-verse?

Misha Collins, who has of course played the angel Castiel on Supernatural since way back in Season 4, chatted with CinemaBlend's TV Editor Nick Venable at the 2019 TCA summer press tour, and Collins said this when asked if taking part in the Arrow-verse was something that would ever interest him:

The possibility of a crossover between Arrow and Supernatural has been pitched in the past, with Arrow leading man Stephen Amell even saying that he was "totally up for it." The timing really couldn't be better. Arrow is also ending in the 2019-2020 TV season, and the two shows ending could mean that all bets are off and they can do things that weren't really feasible before. Will it happen? Maybe not. Is it fun to speculate? 100%.

Misha Collins didn't say that he'd be set on playing Castiel if he did appear in the Arrow-verse, but he would love to do something funny for it. And what Supernatural and/or Arrow-verse fan could disagree? The possibilities are endless, and pretty much all off them have the potential to be hilarious.

Considering Castiel on Supernatural basically wears the same costume as Constantine on Legends of Tomorrow (and in the comics), why not have Cas turn up on Legends for some wardrobe banter? Cas is a supernatural creature, after all, and Legends is the show in the Arrow-verse that could easily include angels. What's not to love about Constantine snarking at Castiel while Castiel tries and fails to keep everything under control? Or cast Misha Collins as a parallel Constantine!

The "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover is coming up, which means that there are possibilities for crossovers that wouldn't even require the craziness of Legends of Tomorrow to make sense. If the Arrow-verse can bring in Kevin Conroy and Burt Ward for "Crisis," and Brandon Routh can play Superman (presumably as well as Ray Palmer), why can't one of the Earths in the multiverse be the Supernatural Earth? Supernatural established a multiverse relatively recently as well.

The Winchesters, Castiel, and Co. wouldn't need to have huge roles, but couldn't they pop up for cameos? Maybe do some shooting or smiting before returning to their own problems? They may not have the Monitor to deal with, but God is the big bad of Season 15.

There's also the point that Supernatural is basically the most meta show in television history. Between "The French Mistake" that had Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins playing actors named Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins, the fact that the prophet Chuck (later revealed to be God) published a series of novels about the Winchesters in-universe, and a bunch of teenage girls created an original musical based on those books for the 200th episode (called "Fan Fiction," because of course it was), I feel like nothing is out of the question. More meta is coming in Season 15.

Hey, maybe Supernatural could reprise that pitch for an episode of Supernatural that would have had the Winchesters meeting Smallville's Tom Welling after a Superman curse was cast that killed every actor who played Superman.

Supernatural's final season is going to air beyond Arrow's series finale, so why not tweak it and bring in Stephen Amell to play former Oliver Queen actor Stephen Amell? That would allow Amell to kinda sorta come back without ruining what may be the definitive Arrow ending he's looking for.

Besides, I think Supernatural fans could use some fun in Season 15, considering Dean's mad at Castiel, Jack is dead for now, souls have been unleashed from Hell, God is the villain, and Misha Collins teased that Supernatural won't have a conventional happily-ever-after ending. Jensen Ackles had trouble with the series finale ending as well, although Jared Padalecki's comments are a little bit more reassuring.

If a Legacies crossover with Supernatural is possible, why not the Arrow-verse? We already have the perfect role picked out for Jensen Ackles, and he weighed in on it. Maybe Jared Padalecki could even play the DC Comics role he was once hoping for! He and Ackles would still be playing brothers... sort of.

Is any of this likely to happen? Honestly, not really. Then again, both Supernatural and the Arrow-verse have delivered their fair share of surprises, and the Arrow-verse is pulling out all the stops for "Crisis on Infinite Earths." The Arrow-verse will probably be pretty different following "Crisis" as well, and not just because of what happens to Oliver and the end of Arrow shortly thereafter. Unlike Supernatural with its history of prospective spinoffs that failed to get off the ground, Arrow has been launching spinoffs since the introduction of Barry Allen back in Season 2, and another spinoff could be in the works.

With so much change coming, we can't 100% rule out Misha Collins or any of the other Supernatural guys appearing somehow in the Arrow-verse. If Supernatural could get animated to cross over with Scooby-Doo, I'm waiting until the final credits roll to say for sure. Isn't semi-baseless speculation that could nevertheless be on the money part of the fun of still watching Supernatural after nearly a decade and a half?

Supernatural (as well as most of the Arrow-verse) returns to The CW with new episodes in the fall. The 2019-2020 marks the end of an era on the network, and it should be interesting to see what The CW has in mind to replace Supernatural, as well as Arrow, in its lineup. Somehow I don't see Nancy Drew filling the void left by these genre shows, but maybe Batwoman will do the trick!

The show will have run for 15 seasons by the time the credits roll for the last time next year, and Season 14 ended on a cliffhanger proving that the guys of Team Free Will are facing some major challenges -- including God as the Big Bad -- in their final batch of episodes. So how will the series end for the Winchester brothers and their allies?

Misha Collins, who plays the angel Castiel on Supernatural, shared some details about what to expect from the end of the show, and his words suggest that fans may want to prepare themselves for an emotional journey when Season 15 kicks off. Speaking with CinemaBlend's TV Editor Nick Venable at the TCA 2019 Summer Press Tour, Collins shared this when asked how Season 15 begins:

Season 14 ended with God seriously upset with the Winchesters and Castiel after Sam and Dean stopped playing his games for his entertainment. Also, Sam shot God, which is the kind of sentence I'm going to miss writing when Supernatural is done for good. So, God opened Hell and unleashed the souls back up to the Earth, including some of the monsters the Winchesters had killed over the years.

The final scene of the season -- set to "God Was Never on Your Side," naturally -- saw Sam, Dean, and Castiel surrounded by zombies in a graveyard. Misha Collins revealed that Season 15 won't pick up after a time jump, as seasons have in the past, and the stage will be set for a tense final season that doesn't culminate with a happily-ever-after.

Why Misha Collins Doesn't Think Supernatural Would Have Gotten On The Air Today

As Misha Collins noted, it's not like the brothers were on the best terms with Cas before God revealed himself as a villain. Although Jack technically is the one who killed Mary Winchester, Dean believes Castiel could have prevented it by revealing the troubling things he was seeing from Jack before Jack crossed that line. Has too much happened for any happiness at the end?

Well, Jensen Ackles revealed that he had "so much trouble" with the series finale ending when he learned what the writers and producers had in mind, and it wasn't until he reached out to an old friend for some clarity that he ended up "pumped" about it. According to Ackles, the ending is going to be very emotional, and that doesn't necessarily mean happy.

Working With The Supernatural Cast Again Would 'Be Like Coming Home' For Jensen Ackles

Jared Padalecki also chatted about the end of the series, and his words were a little bit more promising for some substantial light at the end of the Supernatural tunnel. Padalecki explained that he's comfortable with the "version of peace" that the show ends with for Sam and Dean. He was once a proponent of a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid-esque kind of ending for the Winchesters, which would have been fitting but also kind of a bummer.

Will the brothers survive, or are they doomed? Death may rarely be permanent for the key players on Supernatural, but Season 15 is the actual end of the series. Whatever happens to the characters is going to have to stick this time, and Misha Collins' comments suggest that the Supernatural version of a white picket fence and happily-ever-after for the extended Winchester family may not be in the books.

While of course Misha Collins wasn't going to start dropping major details about Supernatural's final season before the season even premieres, he did share some of what's in store for Castiel:

Although Castiel technically didn't arrive on the scene until Dean needed to be yanked out of Hell in Season 4, he became such a key part of the series that it's almost difficult to remember what the show was like without him. As befits a major character on Supernatural, Castiel has been killed off several times already, only to be brought back to the point that Cas once declared it was a "punishment resurrection," as it got worse every time. Oh, Castiel...

Judging by Misha Collins' comments, Castiel's arc in the final season will be quite emotional, and I'm guessing at least some of that will stem from the tension between Cas and Dean. For all that Castiel (and Jack) grew to become part of the Winchester family, Dean and Cas have had the -- to quote Castiel himself -- "more profound bond," and Castiel doesn't always handle it well when he's in Dean's bad books. Throw in the Hell literally unleashed on Earth, and emotions could be running very high.

Will Castiel be killed off yet again, and have it stick this time? I'd be very surprised if Castiel wasn't still alive until at least almost the very end of the series, even if the final scene could well be reserved for just Sam and Dean. Supernatural killing off Cas ahead of the end of the series would qualify as not giving the show a conventional happily-ever-after, I would say! Besides, as Supernatural has shown many, many times in the past, there are plenty of ways to kill off Cas that don't involve children in a burning building.

Supernatural is one of the defining series of The CW and seemed for a long time like the show that would just keep on showing. Now, however, the show is poised to enter its fifteenth and final season, and The CW will have to enter a whole new era. Interestingly, Misha Collins, who plays the angel Castiel on Supernatural, recently revealed that he doesn't think Supernatural would have gotten on the air in the current era.

Speaking to CinemaBlend and other press at San Diego Comic-Con, Misha Collins said this:

Supernatural is known for many things after nearly a decade and a half on the air already, but the longevity of major female characters is not one of them. In fact, they have a tendency to be killed off, although to be fair, mostly of the major Supernatural characters have been killed off at least once. Misha Collins even once revealed the best of Castiel's many deaths to CinemaBlend!

The show is just fundamentally the story of Sam and Dean Winchester, and it happens that the most profound bonds they've formed over the years have been with other men. Or at least celestial beings occupying male vessels, as is the case with Castiel, who has occupied female bodies as well. Fans just know him best in the original form of Jimmy Novak, played by Misha Collins.

If Supernatural premiered today, there would almost certainly be a greater presence of female characters from the beginning. That's not to say that one of the Winchester siblings would be Samantha or Deanna rather than Sam or Dean, but the most important women of Season 1 were Jess and Mary Winchester, both of whom were very dead.

The focus on brotherhood and masculinity that came to define Supernatural might have been absent if Supernatural premiered in 2019 rather than 2005. Misha Collins went on to discuss how Supernatural found itself as well as early attempts to incorporate female characters on a more regular basis, saying this:

Misha Collins may not have joined Supernatural until Season 4 as the angel more or less on Dean's shoulder, but he dropped some interesting information about Season 3. Fans will undoubtedly remember that Season 3 featured two female characters in relatively prominent roles: Katie Cassidy's Ruby and Lauren Cohan's Bela Talbot.

As Misha Collins noted, both Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan went on to successful careers, tackling long-running roles on other series, with Cassidy playing various versions of Laurel Lance from the very beginning of Arrow (also on The CW and ending this year with a new suit for Cassidy) and Cohan becoming a key part of The Walking Dead ensemble starting in Season 2 and running through Season 9.

Interestingly, Lauren Cohan has expressed interest in returning to Supernatural for the final season, and may return to The Walking Dead following Whiskey Cavalier's cancellation. Hey, if Jeffrey Dean Morgan could return to Supernatural while maintaining a presence on The Walking Dead, why not Lauren Cohan? Supernatural has brought back characters from wilder fates than what happened to Bela.

That said, we should probably rule out Katie Cassidy returning to Supernatural before the end, unless via flashback. Her version of Ruby was destroyed and replaced in Season 4 by Genevieve Cortese, who later married Supernatural co-leading man Jared Padalecki.

According to Misha Collins, neither Ruby 1.0 nor Bela really "fit" into Supernatural as the story of the Winchester brothers, whereas characters like Cas and Crowley and Jack did work. Mark Sheppard probably isn't coming back, but I'd be surprised if Castiel doesn't make it to the very end, and likely Jack as well despite his recent death. Collins elaborated:

Misha Collins certainly has a point about the early years trying to work in some romance for the Winchester brothers from time to time, and it was the death of Jess that actually propelled Sam to start saving people and hunting things in the family business again.

Fortunately for womankind in the Supernatural universe, considering what often happens to the women who cross paths with the Winchester brothers, Supernatural shifted its focus almost entirely on family rather than romance, although there are plenty of viewers hanging on to hopes for a Dean/Castiel romance. They do have a more profound bond, after all!

Although the attempt to launch a Wayward Sisters spinoff did increase the prominence of some of the women of Supernatural, the core group is still Sam, Dean, Castiel, and Jack. Misha Collins credits the network and studio for allowing Supernatural to go with the formula that works:

Supernatural has indeed been breaking the mold for a long time, and we can only hope that the series goes out with a bang. Jared Padalecki promises a "version of peace" for the Winchesters by the end of the series finale, and Jensen Ackles revealed that he had a lot of trouble with the ending until he chatted with an old friend about it.

The three main stars announced the news that Supernatural's fifteenth season would also be its last, and fans have had to come to grips with the knowledge that the end is in sight for a show that seemed unlikely to ever wrap up.

Misha Collins, who joined the show back in Season 4 as Castiel and plays arguably the biggest character after Sam and Dean, penned a letter to Supernatural fans, and it bodes well for what's left of the series. Take a look at his hint about Season 15:

Not only does Misha Collins express his belief that the Supernatural family is "not going anywhere," but he promises that they're "just getting started." His comments seem to indicate that the Supernatural team is just getting started on both Season 15 and continuing to impact the world, and his point that endings are really beginnings could be helpful to Supernatural fans who are still coming to terms with the show's conclusion next season.

Misha Collins shared his message to fans via Twitter, choosing to post an image of a long letter rather than cram all of his sentiments into 240 characters or less. At this point, it's almost hard to believe that Castiel hasn't been a part of the show all along.

Now, all these years later, Cas has a sense of humor and developed a deep attachment to some humans (including a profound bond with one in particular) and a father/son dynamic with a nephilim.

Who could have guessed what Castiel would become to the Winchester boys, and how important a character Castiel would become to Supernatural? It's a good thing none of those many deaths ever stuck for too long! Even Misha Collins' favorite Castiel death, which was pretty gruesome, only kept the angel out of commission for a brief time.

The beloved horror series crossed the impressive threshold of its 300th episode in Season 14. In the announcement video, emotions were evident, as the central cast revealed the show’s fate. There are two parts to Jensen Ackles’ video. In the caption from the first, he hints that nothing on Supernatural ever ends, adding a winking emoji. Ackles is probably referencing the show’s penchant for keeping things alive, which is pretty notable.

When Supernatural began, it was mostly Sam and Dean. Not anymore. The duo became a trio thanks to the introduction of Castiel in Season 4. The fan-favorite actor appeared in the announcement video with his co-stars. Misha Collins, who plays Cass on Supernatural, shared the video with these thoughts:

Supernatural is coming up on a major milestone. It is not its 100th or 200th episode. Those have been in the rearview mirror of the Winchesters' wheels for a while now. Supernatural is hurtling towards its 300th episode. Yes, you read that correctly. The incredible accomplishment will be met with a special installment that will involve a twist for Cas. Misha Collins revealed:

If your mind is racing, you are unlikely to be alone. Misha Collins' tease to TVLine is quite exciting. What it will mean for Dean and Sam's friend is another issue. But, it has the makings of something exciting for the character.

So far, we know that life in the Bunker will be the central focus of the 300th episode. The episode will linger on the guys' daily routines and regimens, per Hypable. All of which sounds ambitious and delightful. How time travel and viewers encountering a different version of Cas fits into that will be intriguing to discover. Granted, Misha Collins said there would be a "little bit" of time travel. So, not necessarily an episode full of it.

In a description of the episode, there is a mention of it exploring how people in Lebanon, Kansas perceive Sam, Dean, and Cas. There is also a bit about meeting a few old friends in the episode, per Collider. You know a good way to meet up with old friends? Time travel.

It is all setting up to be quite a tremendous episode for long-time viewers. Cas fans have got to be pleased to know that he will not only be featured in the 300th episode, but he will do so in what sounds like a significant way. How different will this other version be? Perhaps, this version of Cas is not a big fan of trench coats? That would be tragic.

Whatever the show gets up to with its time travel twist, it will be nothing shy of impressive. Supernatural has been on the air for 14 years and is showing no signs of stopping. To have accomplished that many episodes and still have fans on the edge of their seats is a major testament to the series and those who work on it.

The cast and crew recently celebrated the occasion on a red carpet. They have more than earned it. So, prepare to enjoy the suspenseful wait to see the landmark 300th episode, which will likely take "supernatural" restraint!

An air date for Supernatural's 300th episode has not yet been set. When it does air, it should do so in the series' usual time slot. New episodes of Supernatural air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. The horror series is among many shows airing new episodes this fall and throughout the midseason, so be sure to keep up with everything coming your way in the next few months.

Supernatural is gearing up for its fourteenth season, and the cast is teasing the dynamics to come. As of the Season 13 finale, Dean is not in control of his body, as Michael has taken over the elder Winchester. Well, if you thought Castiel would not take that development lying down, your speculation was right on the money. Supernatural's Misha Collins previewed the lengths Cas will be going through to save his friend in Season 14, saying:

It is safe to say that Castiel will be stopping at nothing to save his best friend. What Misha Collins teased to EW falls right in line with some of what was glimpsed of Cas in the Season 14 trailer. The stakes are high, and Cas knows it. In the trailer, he did not react thrilled to Jack saying that Michael would have to be stopped, even if it means Dean dying in the process.

Castiel is not about to let that happen, and based on Misha Collins' insight into Cas' Season 14 mindset, he will have some backup from an expected source: Dean's devoted brother, Sam. While Cas and Sam have never been as tight on Supernatural as he and Dean, Cas and Sam are about to embark on a journey that could help them grow even closer: Operation: Save Dean. Jared Padalecki teased the dynamic between Cas and Sam when Season 14 begins, saying:

Honestly, this sounds very sweet. With fans missing out on the signature relationship that drives so much of the series, it will be nice to have Castiel and Sam's bond strengthened in its stead. It is hard to imagine a better homecoming gift for Dean than to return to one of his closest friends and his brother being even closer than they were when he left. That is, of course, when Dean finally gets back into his body, not if.

Let's just hope that Cas does not make any deals that have long-term consequences that make his eventual reunion with Dean, short-lived. He does not want to get Dean back, only to lose him again. Misha Collins saying that Cas was willing to make a deal with "any kind of devil" does not exactly bode fantastically for that wish, though. With him teaming up with Sam, they should be able to balance each other out before it comes to anything too over the top. Really, what good would it be to get Dean back only to have lost the chance to enjoy it?

Supernatural has gone in some very bizarre directions over the years that take Sam and Dean out of the realm of angels and demons. Whether it's Sam and Dean being sent to an alternate universe where everybody knows them as Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles or a bunch of teenage girls making a musical about the in-universe books written about them by God, the show hasn't held back from getting super weird. The next episode of Supernatural will take the Winchester boys and Castiel somewhere they've never gone: into animation for the long-awaited Scooby-Doo crossover. Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean, had this to say about his animated alter ego:

Apparently, Jensen Ackles approved of how the animators took some liberties with his height for the Scooby-Doo special! Fans of Supernatural know well that Sam is a gigantic human being dubbed "Moose" by the dearly departed Crowley, and Jensen Ackles -- who tops six feet himself -- can look positively small next to his on-screen brother. The animation for the special episode will put the two Winchester boys closer to the same level.

Good for Jensen Ackles that the animators had a high opinion of his look! It undoubtedly wouldn't have felt too great if he discovered that the animators gave him a misshapen body and shrunk him down even shorter than he is in real life for the Scooby-Doo special. Obviously we can't say too much about the animation before the episode hits the airwaves, but early images give the impression that the animators did justice to Ackles' cheekbones. I'm not sure that I'll ever get my episode with flashbacks to the time Dean must have stumbled upon the Fountain of Youth, so I'll take this animated version of him.

Jared Padalecki was also pleased with the Sam animation for the Scooby-Doo special, according to TVLine. Padalecki said this:

Going by Jared Padalecki's comments, he also got some flattering additions for the Scooby-Doo episode, although it doesn't look like his height was changed. He doesn't look quite as unkempt with all that hair in animation, and it should be interesting to see which of his qualities got a boost. Misha Collins, who plays Castiel, was happy as well. The animation made him look taller and leaner, according to Collins. Who knows? Maybe the three leads' happiness with their animated doubles could lead to more animation in the future. I'm not sure at this point how Supernatural could swing another Scooby-Doo crossover, but is there really anything Supernatural can't do? Boundaries don't seem to exist for the long-running series anymore.

Supernatural has become known for going big, bold, and heartbreaking when it comes to season finales, and the Season 12 finale was a doozy that seemingly killed off two major characters. Mark Sheppard has already confirmed that he won't be back, so we know that Crowley really did meet his doom at the end of Season 12, but the big question has been if and when we can expect Misha Collins to return as Castiel. During a press roundtable for Supernatural Season 13 at San Diego Comic-Con, star Jensen Ackles revealed when Collins will be back in action with the Winchester boys, and it may come as a surprise. Here's what Ackles had to say about the episode:

Misha Collins will be back on Supernatural in the Season 13 episode that happens to be the Scooby-Doo crossover. We first learned that we'd be getting a Supernatural/Scooby-Doo animated crossover back in May. News broke before the big finale aired, so fans naturally had reason to believe that Castiel would have a role to play in the crossover. Then, hours later, the finale aired and fans saw Lucifer stab Castiel through the back with an angel blade. We had kind of a big reason to doubt that he'd be around for the Scooby-Doo special.

Admittedly, the Season 12 finale wasn't the fist time that Castiel seemed to die. Cas has died so frequently that Misha Collins was able to tell CinemaBlend which death was best of all. Still, the Season 12 finale death seemed really... well, final. Bright light shone out of Castiel's eyes, mouth, and wound once Lucifer stabbed him, and the image of his angel wings was burned into the ground after he fell. Enough angels have been killed via angel blade on Supernatural that this death of Cas' seemed like it might actually stick.

Of course, Jensen Ackles' reveal that Misha Collins will be part of the Supernatural/Scooby-Doo special doesn't mean that Castiel as we knew him will be back on Team Free Will in Season 13. The introduction of alternate realities in the Season 12 finale means that we could be getting another reality's version of Cas. Depending on how the Winchester boys end up animated, Castiel could appear as a dream or hallucination. Who knows? Maybe Misha Collins will be playing a new character in Castiel's body. It wouldn't be the first time.

We'll have to wait and see. I'm guessing that we won't have to wait too long in Season 13 before we get some answers about Misha Collins' future on the show, but at least we now know of one episode in which he'll have a part to play. Season finales of Supernatural have been known to get pretty wild, whether they're killing off a Winchester or kickstarting the apocalypse. In the Season 12 finale, we witnessed the tragic death of poor Castiel, who was (seemingly) killed by Lucifer. While the catastrophe of the finale was a culmination of events and certainly not solely on Castiel's shoulders, his decision to let Kelly and her unborn nephilim child did ultimately lead to his death via a Lucifer who was anxious to meet his son. CinemaBlend spoke with Misha Collins about the finale and whether Castiel regretted his decision as of the start of the episode, and he had this to say:

Well, Castiel's corpse and the scorch marks of his burned angel wings certainly qualify as "big consequences." All things considered, it's nice to know at least that Cas didn't feel guilty about his decision not to end Kelly and her baby's life. He had become an angelic expert in the art of blaming himself over the years on Supernatural, so much so that he really did begin to feel like a third Winchester brother. Misha Collins' explanation doesn't make Castiel's death any less heartbreaking, but it does feel slightly less tragic now.

There was no good decision to make based off the information he had at the time when he made his call to try and keep Kelly and her half-devil baby safe from demons, and Cas did not come to regret his choice. There is also the point that Castiel isn't entirely responsible for everything that happened after his initial decision not to end Kelly. The nephilim affected him in a way that changed him, whether he liked it or not, although the changes were perhaps not as obvious as in seasons past with other versions of Cas. Misha Collins went on in our chat to say this about the Season 12 finale version of Castiel:

The Castiel of the finale certainly seemed more powered than he had been in a while, and the scorch marks on the ground indicated that his wings were grown back and his batteries had been fully recharged. He was Cas as we hadn't seen him for a while. In fact, the finale managed to bring Season 12 Castiel full circle to Season 4 Castiel in one especially violent way. He left the Supernatural world the way he came into it: by being undeservedly stabbed through the chest. (Too soon?)

All of this said, there is the chance that Castiel isn't permanently dead. Sure, the finale played his death pretty seriously, what with the burnt wings and mournful Dean gazing to the heavens, but this is still Supernatural we're talking about, and Castiel has died plenty of times before. In fact, Misha Collins recently revealed which of Cas' many deaths he considers the best. We can only cross our fingers and hope that his story isn't quite done just yet.

We can't say whether or not Misha Collins will be back on Supernatural in a major way in Season 13 at this point. Supernatural has put pretty much all its characters through various wringers, and many of them have died and come back to life at least once. The angel Castiel has been particularly unlucky on that particular count, dying and coming back over and over again ever since he first appeared back in Season 4. Sometimes he's sacrificing himself for the Winchester brothers, while other times he just got himself too deeply into trouble. Actor Misha Collins recently spoke with CinemaBlend about all things Supernatural, and he had this to say when I asked which of Castiel's many deaths was the absolute best:

Out of seven seasons of deaths, resurrections, and unlikely comebacks, Misha Collins went with Castiel's death via irritated Lucifer back in the Season 5 finale as the very best. At the time, Castiel had only died once, and we didn't actually see it happen, so we had no reason to be desensitized to the poor guy biting the dust. His explosive death marked the moment in that finale when Team Free Will really passed the point of no return, and it showed everybody yet again that there were really quite few limits to Lucifer's power. If you show up and light his brother on fire, he's going to snap his fingers and explode you into a million pieces. That's a good thing to know.

Luckily, Castiel was only very briefly dead. God brought him back from his disintegrated state by the end of the episode, restoring his power enough that he could heal the badly beaten Dean, who was convinced for a few moments that Cas himself was God. That was not the case, as we know now that Chuck was God, but it was a sign of how quickly good old Cas popped back into existence again. In case you've forgotten Castiel's disintegration into chunks of meat, prepare yourself for a very bloody blast from the past:

Note to self: don't dick with any archangels in front of their brothers. Given that Castiel survived and went on to die (and come back) several more times in subsequent seasons, I think we can all agree that his explosive death in "Swan Song" was pretty hilarious. Supernatural certainly didn't hold back on the gore factor.

Less hilarious is the fact that Lucifer seems to have actually succeeded in killing Castiel for keeps, seven seasons after he was first thwarted by God. In "All Along the Watchtower," Team Free Will and Crowley pulled out all the stops to try and trap Lucifer in an alternate world away from them and his nephilim son. Unfortunately, the plan went rather drastically sideways, and Crowley died at his own hand mere minutes before Lucifer managed to stab Cas with an angel blade from behind. The Winchesters did successfully trap Lucifer away, but the success came at a high cost. Misha Collins wasn't kidding when he said that the Season 12 finale would mix things up for Season 13.

Supernatural will return to The CW (with or without poor Castiel) in the fall. Season 12 of Supernatural will be coming to an end in a few short hours, and we'll have to say goodbye to the Winchester boys and Castiel for a while. At this point, we can only hope that nobody gets exploded by Lucifer, mauled by a hellhound, or banished down to Hell. Luckily, the show has already been renewed for Season 13, and Misha Collins took the time to speak with CinemaBlend about how the Season 12 finale will lead into Season 13, saying this:

Supernatural is the longest-running show on The CW, and it can't be easy for the folks behind the scenes to come up with fresh ways for the characters to save people and hunt things. Going by what Misha Collins told me in preparation for the big finale, the writers found the way to end Season 12 in a manner that sets the stage for some exciting new directions in Season 13. The two-part finale also happens to mark Collins' 100th episode as Castiel, so it'll be a pretty momentous night all around.

The finale will pick up on the Winchester boys trapped down in the Men of Letters bunker while the battle between the Brits and American hunters comes to a head. Lucifer will take advantage of his newfound freedom from Crowley to go after his soon-to-be born nephilim son, which will undoubtedly pit him against Castiel yet again. "Oh shit" indeed! Misha Collins also explained how fans may feel after the finale comes to end:

Given that seasons of Supernatural have ended on everything from the death of a Winchester to the literal apocalypse, I'm not sure if we should be nervous or excited about what's to come. Misha Collins mentioned that he'd like to see fans recording their reactions to the end, so whatever happens, we can bet that it will be a cliffhanger to remember.

Supernatural showrunner Andrew Dabb revealed in a talk with CinemaBlend earlier this year that the show can continue so long as fans stay invested in the characters, and it sounds like Season 13 will be taking our characters in some story directions that we haven't necessarily seen before. In fact, we already know one of those story directions, as it was reported earlier today that we're in for an animated Supernatural/Scooby-Doo crossover when the show returns in the fall, and that's definitely something we haven't seen before.

Something strange is always happening at fan conventions. Usually it involves Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Nicholas Brendon getting drunk and causing a scene. But this time around, Supernatural star Misha Collins was apparently minding his own business when somebody mugged him. Collins allegedly sustained some minor injuries, but he was so shaken up that he cancelled his appearance at a panel alongside co-stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Mark Sheppard. Where were the Winchester boys when the altercation went down?

The news broke (via Us Magazine) when Supernatural co-star Jim Beaver wrote in a post on Facebook that Collins was followed out of a restaurant in Minneapolis by three men, was beaten and robbed. The post also said that he sustained minor injuries with some stitches and a fat lip, but would still attend the convention. Beaver’s post was soon deleted, but not without fans noticing and taking to Twitter to share their support and worry for the actor. That’s when Collins was prompted to respond.

Collins did not elaborate any further on the matter of the mugging, so it is not clear exactly what happened. And since Beaver’s post was deleted, it seems as though Collins really doesn’t want the incident to be publicly shared. But, since the actor missed his Supernatural panel, obviously his fans were worried. And then when another Supernatural actor tweeted this, well then Twitter got extra involved.

Of course with the massive fandom Supernatural has created over the span of 10 seasons Twitter soon erupted with the hashtag #WeLoveYouMisha. And it sounds like everyone’s well wishes were much appreciated. Also, considering Collins’ remains in town for the convention, seems like he really is doing just fine.
