One of the most unique 2025 movie releases I’ve seen this year has to be Oh, Hi! starring internet boyfriend Logan Lerman and The Bear’s Molly Gordon. The independent film from writer/director Sophie Brooks follows a couple, Isaac and Iris, as they go on a remote romantic getaway together. However, while they engage in some sexual bondage play, and Lerman’s Isaac gets handcuffed to the bed, a frustrating truth comes out about their relationship and Iris decides to leave him tied up until he tells her what she wants to hear.

The dark comedy, also co-written by Molly Gordon, works as a rather brilliant take on relationships in this day and age, especially as Iris learns that what she thought was a promising beginning to a long coupling was actually not Isaac’s intention the whole time. One element of the movie that really stuck with me is the use of referencing 1943’s Best Picture winner, Casablanca, throughout the film. WARNING: I’ll be getting into SPOILERS ahead.

Early on in Oh, Hi!, Iris and Isaac talk about their favorite movies, and Iris mentions loving Casablanca. Here’s what Sophie Brooks said about having this detail in the movie the first time it’s mentioned:

I didn’t think about it this way, but as the writer/director shared with me during our interview, Casablanca helps establish the theme of miscommunication from the movie. In terms of the movie, Iris is a big fan of it, but Isaac only pretends to have seen it. It sort of plays into the pair’s relationship, where Iris kind of plays along with Isaac because she likes him, but he is leaving things unsaid that are uncomfortable for him.

I felt like the use of Casablanca helped underline how Iris is conditioned to romanticize relationships that haven’t even had a chance to start and really be something real. She assumed she and Isaac had something they didn’t have, and even after she ties him up to a bed, and he tells her that he doesn’t want a relationship at the end of the film, she quotes the movie, saying “We’ll always have 'Oh, hi!'” As Brooks continued:

Oh, Hi! and Casablanca certainly have an ending somewhat in common, considering they don’t end up together. But, the fact that Iris sees a situation where she was lied to and almost went to jail as the kind of time and place to recite a line from a heartbreaking movie like Casablanca is certainly telling.

At the same time, as Brooks mentioned, just because two characters don’t end up together at the end doesn't mean a movie cannot be romantic or be its own kind of love story. Having Casablanca as a reference really helped me as a viewer understand that aspect of the film. Because yes, while not every love story is healthy or long-standing, if it made you feel something, it means something to you. We all have those short-lived romances, that weren’t right for us, but taught us something about love and ourselves, and that’s Oh, Hi!

If you’re a fan of great romantic comedies, I definitely recommend you watch Oh, Hi!, which is a project on the 2025 movie schedule that presents a clever twist on the genre. And its leading man, Logan Lerman, certainly had a unique experience on the independent film, considering his character is handcuffed naked to the bed most of the time. Considering the premise, I of course had to ask the Percy Jackson actor during our interview how long he was actually handcuffed to a bed for the shoot. And, his answer pretty much blew my mind.

The movie, co-written by The Bear’s Molly Gordon (who’s been in a ton of great movies over the years), follows a couple, Iris and Isaac (played by Gordon and Lerman), who go on a romantic getaway to a remote cabin. The couple gets a little kinky in the bedroom, and Isaac ends up in handcuffs. But when he makes a troubling confession to Iris about their relationship, Iris decides to keep him chained to the bed. Here’s what Lerman had to say about being handcuffed on set:

Molly Gordon added that it was definitely “a long time” and was giving “held captive vibes,” but hey, it seems like Lerman was very much game to do it. For some reason, I thought he was going to say that he was never really handcuffed for long, but I’m amazed he really committed.

And for a good reason. Oh, Hi! is a really fun movie that highlights the frustration that can come with dating when two people who like each other aren’t looking for the same thing. In Iris’s case, she comes into the getaway thinking they are a couple, whereas Isaac explains to her he’s not looking for anything serious, and she goes a bit Misery on him.

As we also discussed in the interview, one big problem it brought up for the actor was not having the ability to use his hands in conversation. As he explained:

It really did work, too, and helped make the movie.

After Molly Gordon successfully called out theater kids by co-writing and co-directing Theater Camp, which came out in 2023, I was very excited for what she’d be doing next as a filmmaker. For Oh, Hi!, she collaborated with co-writer/director Sophie Brooks to bring to life this dark comedy in between her work on The Bear (which is already coming back for Season 5).

Fans of FX’s The Bear have long wondered if the characters of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto and Sydney Adamu might become romantically involved at some point. But, now, there’s considerable focus on the real-life relationship between two cast members. Jeremy Allen White, who portrays Carmy, was recently spotted kissing Molly Gordon – who portrays his character’s co-star, Claire. Neither actor has confirmed any sort of romantic relationship, as of this writing. In the meantime, an insider is dropping claims about the pair’s on-set dynamic.

The two actors were spotted locking lips in Los Angeles this past Wednesday. From the outside looking in, this development may be somewhat surprising. However, a source recently spoke to People, saying that they’ve had some solid chemistry for a little while now. And the unnamed individual wasn’t just referring to their work in front of the camera:

Molly Gordon’s Claire Dunlap was introduced during the second season of The Bear as a childhood friend of Carmy’s. The two had long harbored crushes on each other and eventually became a couple during the aforementioned season. That blossoming romance came to a screeching halt in the finale, however, after Claire heard Carmy ranting about their relationship being a waste of time. Throughout Season 3, Carmy and Claire didn’t actually cross paths but their seemingly dissolved romance remained a significant plot thread.

At this point, we can’t speak to the true nature of 33-year-old Jeremy Allen White and 28-year-old Molly Gordon’s relationship. What I can say, though, as a fan of their show, is that they possessed great on-screen chemistry. More recently, it’s said that White “really seems into Molly” right now, which is a sentiment that comes months after the actor was romantically linked to singer Rosalía.

The former Shameless cast member – who also shares two kids with ex-wife Addison Timlin – has reportedly opened up his L.A. abode to Molly Gordon, who lives in New York. As for how those visits apparently play out, the insider had this to say:

While the rumor mill churns on that front, speculation continues to surround The Bear Season 4, which appears set to debut as part of the 2025 TV schedule. A major plot point that fans have unsurprisingly been curious about is the aforementioned will they/won’t they dynamic between Carmy and Claire. In some spaces, there’s also still discussion about Carmy and Sydney hooking up. We’ll have to wait and see how the plot threads unfold as well as whether life ultimately imitates art when it comes to Jeremy Allen White and Molly Gordon.

The Bear cast is made up of colorful and unique characters, from the loud-mouthed Richie and the more cool-headed Sydney, to the eager-to-learn Marcus and the veteran chef Tina. At the center of this kitchen-based craziness is Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy Berzatto, the award-winning chef who returned to Chicago to take over his brother’s restaurant, and as of the Season 2 finale is now running a new dining establishment.

As Hulu subscribers know all too well, Carmy keeps a wide circle of people in his life, between the members of his family, which are comprised of both blood relatives and longtime friends, as well as the staff he works with on a daily basis and various other individuals with whom he has special ties. We’re here to talk about these most prominent of The Bear characters while we wait for news on The Bear Season 3 and continue relishing how the show netted six wins at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Berzatto Siblings

Every primary character in The Bear is tied to the Berzatto siblings in one form or another, and in the main cast, Carmy is joined by his sister, Abby Elliot’s Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto. Then there’s their brother, Jon Bernthal’s Michael “Mikey” Berzatto, who died by suicide four months before the events of the series premiere episode. We’ve gotten to spend some time with Mikey thanks to some flashbacks in Season 1 and the tense “Fishes” episode from Season 2, and in the present day, Carmy and Sugar are co-owners of The Bear restaurant, which finally opened in the same-named Season 2 finale.

“Cousin” Richie And His Ex-Wife Tiffany

Although not tied to the Berzattos by blood, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richard “Richie” Jerimovich has been tight with this family for many years thanks to having been Mikey’s best friend. He even admits in “Forks” that Donna Berzatto was more like a mother to him than his own mother, so he’s more than earned the right to be called “Cousin” throughout the show. Then there’s Tiffany, Richie’s wife played by Gillian Jacobs. The two were still married in “Fishes” and had their daughter Eva shortly thereafter, but they’re divorced in the present days, and in “Forks,” Tiffany told Richie that she was engaged to a man named Frank.

Sydney, Marcus and Tina - The Bear’s Core Kitchen Staff

They’re not members of the Berzatto family, but these characters certainly aren’t important to The Bear’s narrative. Chief among this particular trio is Ayo Edebiri’s Sydney Adabu, who joined The Beef as a sous-chef at the start of the show after her catering business failed. After The Beef fell under, she stuck around to help develop The Bear restaurant, becoming its chef de cuisine. Lionel Bryce’s Marcus and Liza Colón-Zayas’s Tina Marrero worked at The Beef back when Mikey was still alive, meaning they go way back with Carmy too. At The Beef, Marcus is in charge of deserts and Tina works as the sous-chef.

Ebraheim And Sweeps - Other Important Kitchen Staff Members

Although Edwin Lee Gibson and Corey Hendrix’s characters aren’t series regulars like the other kitchen staff, they’re nonetheless important members of The Bear, with both Ebraheim and Gary “Sweeps” Woods also having been around at The Beef when Mikey was running it. Granted, Ebraheim did disappear when he and Tina were tasked to go to culinary school in Season 2, but he eventually resurfaced and has resumed his duties. Hopefully these two will have more prominent roles in Season 3.

“Uncle” Jimmy And His Wife Carol

Jimmy “Cicero” Kalinowski was the best friend of Carmy, Sugar and Mikey’s dad when he was still alive, hence why he’s referred to them, as well as Richie, as “Uncle.” He loaned Mikey $300,000 for The Beef, and even after that unspent money was finally found, he lent an additional $500,000 to Carmy, Sugar and Sydney for The Bear, though the restaurant has to pay off the $800,000 debt within 18 months time. Jimmy is married to Maura Kidwell’s Carol, who can briefly be seen in a few episodes.

Pete - Sugar’s Husband

If The Bear has a consistent punching bag, it’s Pete, Sugar’s husband who’s played by Chris Witaske. He means well and is consistently trying to impress, but he’s nonetheless the target of many jabs, insults and teases from his wife’s family members and friends. Pete did get a chance to shine in the Season 2 finale when he noticed Donna (who we’ll talk about next) outside the restaurant and tried to get her to come in. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, and to make matters worse, Pete accidentally revealed to his mother-in-law that he and Sugar were having a baby, something he assumed Donna already knew about, but wasn’t the case.

Donna - Carmy, Sugar And Mikey’s Mother

In “Fishes,” we met Jamie Lee Curtis’ Donna, Carmy, Sugar and Mikey’s mother who was preparing the Christmas dinner that year for her extended family (there’s a wild story behind the actress getting the role). It soon became clear that Donna was in trouble between her erratic mood shifts and alcoholism, and by the end of the episode, she crashed her car into the house. In the Season 2 finale, Donna showed up at the opening of The Bear restaurant, but only interacted with Pete, as she decided at the last minute that she didn’t deserve to witness her children’s success, plus was taken aback by the news about the baby.

Brothers Neil And Theodore Fak

Like Richie, Neil Fak, played by Matty Matheson (a real-life chef), is a childhood friend of Mikey Berzatto, but he and Richie were constantly at odds with one another, and that hasn’t changed in adulthood. As a mechanic, Neil was often around The Beef to fix things up, and he played an integral role in the construction of The Bear. We spent some time with Neil’s brother Theodore, played by Ricky Staffieri, in the episodes “Fishes,” “Omelette” and “The Bear.”

Michelle - The Berzatto Siblings’ Cousin

Sarah Paulson guest-starred in “Fishes” as Michelle Berzatto, cousin to the Berzatto siblings. In addition to being one of the many witnesses to that night’s craziness, she approached Carmy about staying with her in New York in order to get some distance from his nuclear family. While we know Carmy did move to The Big Apple and became a sous chef at a three-star Michelin restaurant, it’s unclear if he took Michelle up on her offer.

Stevie - Michelle’s Boyfriend

Michelle brought her boyfriend Stevie along for the family dinner in “Fishes,” and you could tell John Mulaney’s character was easily entertained by everyone around him up until the actual meal started. This included Neil and Theodore hitting him up for money with their investment in baseball cards. It’s unclear if Stevie and Michelle are still together during the show’s present day events.

“Uncle” Lee

Although Bob Odenkirk’s “Uncle” Lee Lane is Jimmy’s business partner and Donna’s on-and-off again boyfriend, he’s a far cry from being the most beloved member of the family. He and Mikey got into an ugly spat in “Fishes,” which was prompted by Lee giving him grief about sharing the same story over and over again. This escalated later when Mikey started throwing forks at Lee during the meal, prompting Odenkirk’s character to start insulting Mikey’s life choices, addiction problem and more. In the present day, Carmy doesn’t think highly enough of Lee to consider him an “uncle.”

Claire, A.K.A. Claire-Bear

Molly Gordon’s Claire, a.k.a. Claire-Bear, was pretty close with the Berzattos, Faks and Richie when she was growing up, enough to the point that she referred to Richie as “cousin” during Season 2. However, she started to drift apart from them as they all got older, and she eventually became a resident in emergency medicine. She and Carmy were particularly close in their youth, and while Mikey and Richie tried to set them back up together in “Fishes,” they didn’t reconnect until Season 2. Unfortunately, the two appear to now be broken up due to what happened in the Season 2 finale, though that’s not to say we’ll never see Claire again.

Molly Gordon leads the cast alongside Ben Platt as Rebecca-Diane and Amos Klobuchar, respectively, as they push through the chaos and crassness of the season.

Not only does Gordon star in the movie, which is available to stream with a Hulu subscription, she also co-wrote the script and made her directorial debut with the project. It’s funny, honest a brisk watch, clocking in at just over 90 minutes.

Shiva Baby (2021) 

Before Emma Seligman punched through teen comedy tropes with the 2023 movie Bottoms, she made her feature film directorial debut with Shiva Baby, which was based on her 2018 short film of the same name. The comedy, which pulls no punches, follows college student Danielle (Rachel Sennot) as she has a series of awkward encounters while attending a funeral service with her parents.

One of those interactions is with Maya, Danielle’s ex-girlfriend, who’s played by Molly Gordon. Over the course of the movie, the two former lovers go through the whole gamut of emotions, which adds a whole other layer to this dramatic and strangely funny affair.

The Bear (2023) 

The Bear kicked off Season 2 in a beautiful and dramatic way, and never really let off the gas through the rest of the popular Hulu original series’ second course. Throughout the 2023 season, several new characters were introduced and helped flesh out the stories of Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie, including Molly Gordon’s Claire.

Though the status of their relationship is one of the big questions we have after The Bear Season 2 finale, Gordon’s performance and the way her character brought out a new side of Carmy was nothing short of amazing.

Booksmart (2019) 

One of the great Gen-Z coming-of-age comedies, Booksmart follows high school seniors Amy Antsler (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly Davidson (Beanie Feldstein) as they attempt to finally break out of their shells the night before their graduation. Over the course of the night, the two longtime friends learn more about their peers, each other and themselves than they could have ever imagined.

Though she’s not front and center in Olivia Wilde’s feature film directorial debut, Molly Gordon still has an impact on its story with her portrayal of Annabelle, a.k.a. “Triple A,” an incredibly popular and smart classmate with quite a reputation around school.

Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty (2022 - 2023) 

Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty is the latest in a long line of HBO shows canceled too soon, which is a shame considering its wonderful story, captivating performances and an unfortunate finale that will make longtime Lakers fans not too happy.

One of the standout characters from the sports drama series was Molly Gordon’s Linda Zafrani, a key member of the Los Angeles Lakers organization. As one of the more complex and ambitious characters on the show, the powerful figure was brought to life by Gordon’s performance.

The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)

Natalie Krinsky’s 2020 romantic comedy The Broken Hearts Gallery centers on Lucy Gulliver (Geraldine Viswanathan), a New Yorker who turns her latest breakup into an art gallery containing items and artifacts collected by various people during their relationships over the years. What starts out as a way to get over her ex quickly turns into something unexpected and a lot more worthwhile.

Molly Gordon pops up as Amanda, one of Lucy’s best friends who assists her in her grieving process, and later helps on her journey back to the land of the living and supports her with her latest creative venture, for better or worse.

Good Boys (2019) 

Gene Stupnitsky’s raucous 2019 coming-of-age comedy Good Boys follows best friends Max (Jacob Tremblay), Lucas (Keith L. Williams) and Thor (Brady Noon) as they find themselves in one difficult (and over-the-top) situation after another, culminating in a massive journey involving drugs, the police, and a drone.

Molly Gordon shows up in the picture as Hannah, Max’s neighbor who becomes somewhat of the movie’s villain after the boys come into possession of her ecstasy. A fun cat-and-mouse game with all kinds of stakes ensues, taking the boys, and pretty much everyone else in their orbit, on one wild journey.

Animal Kingdom (2016 - 2018)

Animal Kingdom, the TNT drama series inspired by the Australian crime film of the same name, spent six seasons telling the story of the Cody family, a California-based criminal enterprise involved in pretty much all aspects of life in the town of Oceanside before ending its run in 2022.

Far more dramatic than anything she’s done since, Animal Kingdom saw Molly Gordon take on the role of Nicky Belmont, a rather tragic character and former girlfriend of the show’s central character, Joshua “J” Cody (Finn Cole). A fixture for the first three seasons of the series, Nicky went through a lot, to say the least.

Ramy (2019 - 2022)

Created by actor and comedian Ramy Youssef, the Hulu series Ramy follows a fictionalized version of Youssef, also named Ramy, as he attempts to navigate his deeply dividing neighborhood in New Jersey. Caught between two generations, the American Muslim attempts to make sense of the world around him as well as the internal struggles he faces day-in and day-out.

Molly Gordon only shows up in a few episodes throughout the show’s first three seasons, but this shouldn’t deter her fans from checking it out (if they haven’t already). The show takes a lot of chances, blends comedy and drama, and it has an incredibly unique voice, making it a must-watch.

Though we don’t yet know where Molly Gordon will take audiences (and TV viewers) in the years to come, it's going to be quite the journey.

Theater Camp is easily one of my favorite movies from the 2023 movie schedule so far, and that’s in great part because of its phenomenal cast. Made up of theater veterans and up-in-coming comedy legends, this comedy is all about a theater camp that’s on the brink of closing and the teachers and students who are trying to save it. Ben Platt and Molly Gordon play the acting and music teachers, and the directors/writers/composers of the camp’s biggest musical of the season Joan, Still. Noah Galvin plays Glenn, the stage manager and super shy artist. While Platt shines in his role, and Gordon slays as the star and co-director of the movie, and all three co-wrote it with Nick Lieberman, it’s Galvin’s performance that I can’t stop thinking about. 

Not only does Glenn keep the camp together, but Galvin ties the film together, and he has some hilarious and seriously impressive moments throughout Theater Camp, which is why I think he deserves a spotlight of his own. 

Glenn Is The Most Nuanced Character In Theater Camp 

While the characters in Theater Camp have been praised by theater kids as “totally delightful and eerily accurate,” as our own Corey Chichizola wrote, Galvin’s stage manager Glenn is 100% the most nuanced character. 

In the beginning, it seems like Glenn is simply the overworked stage manager. He takes his job very seriously, and he deeply cares about the kids who are working with him to create the summer productions. However, as the film progresses, it’s slowly revealed that Galvin’s character is actually a phenomenal performer, he’s just shy. 

We’re never told he wants to be in the spotlight, we’re shown it. Through an impromptu dance break while teaching kids how to use a spotlight and a light humming while he fixes a wire, among other things, we slowly figure out that Glenn has always wanted to be on stage, even though he loves his job behind it. They’re small moments, but they’re deep and meaningful, and this internal struggle Galvin’s character faces is clear, and heartwarming, making the climax of the film incredibly rewarding. 

After Joan, Still, Get Noah Galvin On Back Broadway, Now 

That climax I mentioned, is the performance of Amos (Platt) and Rebecca-Diane’s (Gordon) original musical Joan, Still. After the camp’s owner, Joan, suffers a seizure and ends up in a coma, her wannabe business influencer son Troy (Jimmy Tatro) takes over the camp and Amos and Rebecca-Diane create a musical in Joan’s honor. They cast the kids in the musical, and rehearsals cause drama. Meanwhile, Glenn is bouncing between helping Troy figure out how to save the camp and assisting everyone else with their shows.

On the opening night of Joan, Still, they’re left without a lead, and as far as Amos knows, a finale number. However, we soon find out that Glenn has taken over the lead role as Joan, and the finale was written, and it’s beautiful. There’s tap dancing, there’s high notes hit, there’s some immaculate stage managing, and overall, it’s masterful. 

When I tell you I applauded after he performed that stock exchange number both times I saw the movie (in theaters and then with a Hulu subscription), I’m dead serious. He deserved a standing ovation for that performance. 

However, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Noah Galvin absolutely killed it as Joan. Like Ben Platt, Molly Gordon, and a lot of the cast, The Good Doctor actor is a Broadway veteran. He made his Broadway debut in Waitress, where he played Ogie. Then he made his way over to the Broadway production of Dear Evan Hansen, where he followed in Platt’s footsteps as the musical’s titular character. 

Since then, Galvin has done some Off-Broadway productions, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Alice By Heart, however, he’s been consistently working on TV for a while now. Notably, he was the star of The Real O’Neals and he’s been on The Good Doctor since 2020. 

If I’ve learned anything from Theater Camp, it’s that Noah Galvin needs to get back to Broadway ASAP. While I love seeing him on screen, he also thrives on stage, especially as our beloved Joan.  

Between Theater Camp And Booksmart, I’m Convinced Noah Galvin Should Star In More Comedies  

So, I was introduced to Noah Galvin in Booksmart. He played George, the over-the-top theater kid, and he was a showstopper. Kaitlyn Dever, one of the two leads in one of the best women-led buddy comedies said that she would have loved to see more of Galvin’s story in a sequel, and I couldn’t agree more. He stands out as a comedic light in Olivia Wilde’s well-reviewed first film, and the same can be said about his performance in Theater Camp. 

As we talked about, Glenn has the nuance and the talent, but he also has the humor. While Galvin’s character is serious throughout the whole movie, his physical comedy is what makes him so hilarious. When I think about how effective his physical performance was, the scene that comes to mind is the one where Troy is speaking with the businesswoman trying to claim that camp, and Glenn is trying to interrupt them by walking in between the two with a ladder, multiple times. It’s subtle, but it’s hilarious. 

Also, can we talk about the montage of Glenn fixing everything? Not only is that a hilarious depiction of the chaos that is stage management, but it’s also a great display of Galvin’s ability to commit to the bit. Him rolling down a whole entire hill, hysterical. 

Much like in Booksmart, Glavin gives his all, and this man deserves to be in more comedies!

Overall, Noah Galvin is the star of Theater Camp in my eyes. So, Ben Platt and Molly Gordon, whom I love dearly, I’m sorry, but Galvin's Glenn is the star of both Joan, Still and this fantastic film.

A clash of cultures and ideals can either be a recipe for disaster or a source of comedy, and Kenya Barris’ new Netflix comedy movie, You People, is a little bit of both that creates a dynamic experience. The movie, which stars Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy as soon-to-be son-in-law and father-in-law, and puts the differences between the characters front and center, with members of Jewish and Islamic faiths trying to make things work.

If you caught the 2023 Netflix movie during its brief theatrical release or just as it began streaming on the platform in late January, there’s a good chance you’re wondering where you’ve seen the members of the You People cast before. Well, below, we will break down the two families at the center of the latest effort from the black-ish and blackAF creator, which features comedy heavyweights on both sides of the aisle.

Jonah Hill (Ezra Cohen)

Starting things off is Jonah Hill, who stars in You People as Ezra Cohen, in addition to co-writing the movie with director Kenya Barris.

Though he is one of the most legendary comedians, actors, and personalities on the face of the planet, and someone who needs no introduction, there could be someone out there who either has no memory of the Saturday Night Live megastar or has You People as their introduction to his work. Over the years, Murphy has led one iconic movie after another, with titles like 48 Hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, Boomerang, The Nutty Professor, and Shrek quickly coming to mind. And, this is barely scratching the surface of Murphy’s body of work and contributions to pop culture, as listing them all would take up this entire article. 

Lauren London (Amira Mohammed)

Next up is Lauren London, who shows up in You People as Amira Mohammed, Jonah Hill’s on-screen girlfriend and the daughter of Eddie Murphy and Nia Long’s characters.

Nia Long appears in You People as Fatima Mohammed, Lauren London’s on-screen mom and Eddie Murphy’s character’s wife.

For more than 30 years now, Long has been one of the most prolific actresses of her generation, with outstanding performances like Brandi in the late John Singleton’s landmark drama Boyz n the Hood, Debbie in Friday, and Jordan Armstrong in the Best Man film (and now TV) franchise. Add movies like Big Momma’s House, Boiler Room, and Are We There Yet? from the aughts, and it’s easy to see why she’s why she’s such a beloved actress.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Shelley Cohen)

Julia Louis-Dreyfus appears in the You People cast as Shelley Cohen, Jonah Hill’s on-screen mom.

An 11-time Primetime Emmy Award winner, Louis-Dreyfus has been a part of some of the most popular and influential comedy series in the history of TV, with more than one career-defining role on the likes of Seinfeld, Veep, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and even Saturday Night Live. Add in Curb Your Enthusiasm (the Seinfeld “reunion” storyline is still an all-time great), Arrested Development, The Simpsons, and now her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and you have a career that’s on a whole other level.

David Duchovny (Arnold Cohen)

Best known for his portrayal of FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder on the quintessential ‘90s series The X-Files, Duchovny has remained relevant over the years thanks to great performances on shows like Californiacation, Aquarius, and Twin Peaks (both the original run and the 2017 Showtime revival), and numerous others. Movies like Beethoven, Chaplin, Evolution, Zoolander, and The Bubble have only added to his status over the course of the past few decades. 

Molly Gordon (Liza Cohen)

Taking on the role of Liza Cohen, Jonah Hill’s on-screen sister, in You People, is Molly Gordon.

Though not as recognizable as some of the actors named higher up on the list, Gordon has been putting in the work the past decade or so, with roles on shows like Orange Is the New Black, Animal Kingdom, Ramy, and most recently on Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, where she took on the role of Linda Zafrani. Her film work includes roles in movies like Life of the Party, Booksmart, Good Boys, Shiva Baby, and Am I Ok?. 

Travis Bennett (Omar Mohammed)

Rounding out the main portion of the You People cast is Travis Bennett, who plays Lauren London’s on-screen brother, Omar Mohammed.

Bennett, who got his start with his Taco rap persona as part of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, has transitioned into a successful TV actor over the course of the past decade, landing roles on shows like Workaholics, Loiter Squad, and most recently, Lil Dickey’s off-the-wall FX dark comedy, Dave.
