Once Upon a Time is one of the most extraordinary fantasy adaptations I've enjoyed, because it reacquaints fans with beloved fairy tales in a different way. The series ended eight years ago, but it still remains a favorite amongst devotees, thanks to said people streaming it with a Disney+ subscription. Also, it's apparently a hit with a child of one of the OUAT cast members, as Emilie de Ravin's daughter begged her to bust out an iconic dress. Unsurprisingly, de Ravin can still more than pull it off!

De Ravin starred as Belle from The Beauty and the Beast for the first six seasons, and later appeared as a special guest in the seventh and final season. Like many of the characters on the show, Belle wears some iconic looks that fans will recognize from the animated Disney film, including a big yellow dress similar to the dress worn during the “Tale as Old as Time” ballroom sequence. De Ravin took to her Instagram to share a photo in the dress eight years later, and she looks exquisite:

While it's been almost a decade since Once Upon a Time ended, it feels like no time has passed since de Ravin still looks incredible in Belle’s dress. Of course, the big difference is that she has blonde hair. The actress shared in the post’s caption that her daughter Vera wanted her to wear the dress that was given to her when OUAT ended. It’s been quite a while since she wore it, and I honestly couldn’t think of a better reason to bust it out. As she explained:

Regardless of the reason that the Lost alum is wearing Belle’s dress, it is so good to see her in it. The mere sight of her honestly makes me want to rewatch the show for the umpteenth time. And it also makes me want a reboot. There have been rumors regarding a Once Upon a Time revival over the last few years, but there hasn't seemed to be any true movement. While some might think the show went on too long, (and I personally think it could have ended after Season 6), I do like the idea of seeing what everyone is up to following the series finale.

That aside, de Ravin’s Belle dress makes me wonder what the other cast members got for their wrap gifts. I can’t imagine how hard it may have been for them to say goodbye to their characters, who they helped usher through a plethora of story arcs.

At present, though, it's just lovely that Emilie de Ravin is able to share such a special moment with her daughter. I know actresses sometimes have a tendency to pass down outfits to their kids when the time comes, and I hope his costume goes to de Ravin's little girl at some point.

You know when some good relationships on television make you want to squeal the moment you see them? Yeah, these are the relationships down below. Sure, we can spend some time watching the best rom-com movies, but what about several seasons of build-up to a relationship that makes it all worthwhile? Here are some couples that define “goals.”

Chandler And Monica (Friends)

Chandler and Monica are the couple from the Friends cast, and I will not be asking any other questions about it at this time. Ross and Rachel were what people talked about, but these two? I love them. They are defined as “goals” based on how much they love each other, even if they didn’t have the typical start. Friends-to-lovers is one of the best.

Ian And Mickey (Shameless)

There was a time when Ian and Mickey were literally all I saw on my Tumblr feed back in the early 2010s. The Shameless cast featured plenty of great relationships, some healthy and others…not so healthy, but Ian and Mickey were a relationship that made it until the end. There’s nothing quite like them.

Rebecca And Jack (This Is Us)

The This Is Us cast defined my time in college when the show was airing, and Jack and Rebecca were the blueprint for how I wanted my future marriage to go. I have never seen two people just so in love with each other on TV, but also portray such a realistic marriage.

Corey And Topanga (Boy Meets World)

I think Corey and Topanga were the couple for the '90s kids. I didn’t grow up watching Boy Meets World, but I know from many that watching these two grow into teenagers and then young adults was one of the best aspects of this series. And honestly, I love that for you.

Jim And Pam (The Office)

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Sure, there were moments between Jim and Pam in later seasons that felt a little out of character, but these two were the defining relationship from The Office cast. We were all on the edge of our seats at the beginning of the series when these two were just friends, and we wanted them all to get together.

Leslie And Ben (Parks And Recreation)

Leslie and Ben from the Parks and Recreation cast are the perfect example of a relationship that took its time but blossomed beautifully. Ben was the type of person who always let Leslie shine and never tried to dim her light, which is something that I love about them. They always supported each other no matter what.

Marshall And Lily (How I Met Your Mother)

There have been so many relationships that have come and gone in How I Met Your Mother, but you want to know what one of the best was? Obviously, Marshall and Lily. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as many warm fuzzies as I did watching these two.

Stefan And Caroline (The Vampire Diaries)

Team Stefan and Team Damon? Nah, Elena was always going to pick Damon and me, but Stefan and Caroline? Perfect, excellent. There are absolutely no notes on that couple because, honestly, they were better suited for each other. Sorry.

David And Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)

I’m pretty sure watching David and Patrick in Schitt’s Creek altered my brain chemistry because I don’t think another TV couple has stood out the same as them. The Schitt’s Creek cast is filled with memorable characters, but watching the progression of their relationship throughout its five seasons was something that I will always adore. These two loved each other so much.

Luke And Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)

Look, I know that we’re all here for Team Jess or Team Dean or whoever we’re rooting for with Rory, but to me, as an adult woman now, I like Luke and Lorelai’s relationship a heck of a lot more. It feels more mature, more natural, and less dramatic. Please, give me this rather than the craziness of teenage romance.

Nathan And Haley (One Tree Hill)

The definition of high school sweethearts that somehow worked out. They definitely had their moments of doubt throughout the nine seasons of the show, but these two loved each other so much and ended with a happily married life with two children, which is all you can really ask for in most teen drama romances out there.

Phil And Vivian (The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air)

I’m sure you weren’t expecting to see Phil and Vivian on this list because The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air isn’t really known for its romances. But honestly, Phil and Vivian are the perfect couple. They complement each other perfectly, know when to be each other’s rock or to stop the other from making a poor decision, and took care of Will as well as their biological family in the perfect way. I have no complaints.

Santana And Brittany (Glee)

The Glee cast is filled to the brim with couples, so much so that it’s hard to keep up with them. But my personal favorite was always Santana and Brittany. Not only was their relationship a great stepping stone for many lesbian/bisexual relationships on TV back in 2010, but it’s really one of the few that made it to the very end of the series. They were best friends turned lovers turned to something really real, and it ended with them getting married!

Randall And Beth (This Is Us)

“Perfectly imperfect” is a phrase that I still use to this day, ever since Randall uttered it to Beth in This Is Us. These two exemplify what it means to not only marry your best friend, but also marry a partner. They will stand by each other, support each other, and when someone is messing up, they will make them own up to it. There’s no sliding, and that’s what a genuine relationship should be like.

Jess And Nick (New Girl)

New Girl is one of those shows where relationships come and go, but there are always a few that stick the landing for the long haul. Jess and Nick were one of those, and we rooted for them, watching them fall in love, fall apart, and then fall back in love all over again.

Uncle Jesse And Aunt Becky (Full House)

I mean, of course, I have to put Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky. I feel like Full House literally never would have been the same without them. Their relationship started very early on, and it’s always fun to rewatch episodes of the show and watch them fall in love with each other time and time again.

Anthony And Kate (Bridgerton)

While I do love the specialness of Penelope and Colin and the steaminess of Daphne and Simon, there’s just something about Anthony and Kate that gets me going every time. These two, a classic enemies-to-lovers romance, clearly love each other so much by the time the season ends and Season 3 rolls around.

Claire And Jamie (Outlander)

Outlander, in general, is one of the best Starz shows, but a big reason is Claire and Jamie. Their love has transcended literal timelines. I don’t know how you can get more perfect than that.

Mitch And Cam (Modern Family)

I think when it comes to couples in Modern Family, Mitch and Cam are the perfect example of how two people work so well together, and to the outside, people wonder how the heck they function with how crazy they are. But throughout the several seasons of the show, there’s no denying that these two love each other dearly.

Lucy And Ricky (I Love Lucy)

I can’t have a relationships list without putting the OG’s here. Lucy and Ricky are the definition of “goals.” They were the first people on television to show you how in love with each other they are, no matter the amount of shenanigans that they may put the other through. You can’t get better than these two.

Phil And Claire (Modern Family)

I always see Phil and Claire as the much calmer couple of Modern Family, which is saying something because they still have their fair share of hilarious moments in their household of three kids. But what I love about Phil and Claire is that there is evident respect there, and Phil will support Claire no matter what and stand up for her, while Claire will do the same, regardless of what others think. They’re a team, through and through.

Killian And Emma (Once Upon A Time)

God, there are so many couples in Once Upon a Time, but I think the one we always return to is Killian and Emma. Whether it’s their steamy chemistry or their genuinely emotional story, they are an amazing romance with plenty of fantasy aspects that I just love.

Willow And Tara (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

As someone who loves looking back on legendary relationships that paved the way for others, I know there’s no one better to bring up than Willow and Tara. The couple was a significant landmark for LGBTQ+ representation in television and showed two people who clearly loved each other.

Kev And Veronica (Shameless)

These two were freaky, don’t get me wrong – but they were also freakishly in love with each other. Kev and Veronica stood by each other, and when someone dared to threaten the other, it was on sight. They would fight anyone to protect their love and their relationship, and no matter what, always strived to make time for the other.

Fran And Mr. Sheffield (The Nanny)

I’m pretty sure that if you’ve ever read any rom-com novel, then these two are who you picture when you think of the nanny and the billionaire falling in love. But what I love about Fran and Mr. Sheffield is that it’s not an instant lust between them. It’s more of a relationship built on respect and friendship before love was even considered.

Jake And Amy (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast features some hilarious characters, but personally, I always came back for Jake and Amy. I always saw them as rivals-to-lovers, but it feels so real watching them turn from competing with each other to becoming friends to going on dates and so much more.

Jane And Rafael (Jane The Virgin)

These two are in a strange situation, considering they didn’t even know each other when Jane fell pregnant accidentally. But watching their relationship grow organically throughout the show’s seasons is always something that I love to view.

Rick And Michonne (The Walking Dead)

When you think of couples who would literally kill for each other, I can think of no better than Rick and Michonne. Not only are they one of the best Walking Dead relationships, but there was a whole spinoff series dedicated to them finding their way back to each other after years apart. Now that is true love right there.

Poussey And Soso (Orange Is the New Black)

It hurts to even write about Poussey and Soso because it feels like they weren’t given enough time together in Orange is the New Black, but from what we were able to see, they really did work well together. Poussey was the kind of friend that Soso needed, and that blossomed into something brighter between the two of them before it was snuffed out. I needed so much more.

Morticia And Gomez (The Addams Family)

I mean, talk about a man who is obsessed with his woman. In any iteration of The Addams Family, Gomez always loves Morticia, but of course, we have to put the OG here from the 1960s TV series because these two were so in love that they ruined our expectations for all real-life romances.

Glenn And Maggie (The Walking Dead)

Yeah, I’m sad even writing about these two because the way it ends is something I don’t like to think about. But for the five seasons that we got with these two together, they were a light in the darkness that was the world of The Walking Dead. They loved each other, protected each other, and stood by the other until the very end.

Hopper And Joyce (Stranger Things)

God, I visibly remember screaming when these two finally got together in Stranger Things because it was just so apparent that they were into each other. Hopper literally risked his life for Joyce, and she risked hers to save him, and I love them together.

This just makes me want to revisit all of these television shows and watch these couples all over again. I’m in need of some cute TV romances. It's time for a binge-watch.

When it comes to some of the most fantastical movies or TV shows, the first thing I always think of is the best fantasy movies or the best fantasy series, because those are the best kinds of escape. But this list is for those who want a massive sheet of some of the best fantasy adaptations that are awesome to watch – and will totally transport you to another world.

Harry Potter Franchise

I mean, if you know me, you know I love the Harry Potter franchise and no matter what, I will stand by it until the end of time – even if the author sometimes makes me want to cringe. Either way, the Harry Potter movies are some of the best out there, and the worldbuilding that has expanded from this series has only made it that much better.

The Lord Of The Rings

I don’t think I could do a fantasy adaptation list without mentioning The Lord of the Rings movies. Based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings is the kind of fantasy that only comes once in a lifetime, and the moment you get into these movies, you’ll never be the same.

The Wheel Of Time

Based on the novel series of the same name, The Wheel of Time is the kind of high fantasy that has so much going on with it that you’re going to need an entire glossary of terms to keep up with the worldbuilding. But there’s no denying that this series is a fun one – and one of the best shows to watch on Amazon.

Shadowhunters

Based on The Mortal Instruments novels by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters is all about a girl who finds out on her eighteenth birthday that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, human-angel hybrids whose job is to hunt down demons. It’s just as wild as you could probably imagine.

His Dark Materials

Based on the novels by Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials is the kind of fantasy drama that truly takes it to another level. It’s the kind of fantasy series that I really don’t want to dive too heavily into because it’ll reveal so much. Still, the main premise is about a teenager looking for a lost friend and finding out things related to her life that she never would have imagined. The fantasy is ever-changing, as they move from several different worlds, which is so cool.

The Sandman

If you’re looking for a fantasy drama with a tinge of the supernatural, then The Sandman is the show for you. The series, hailing from Netflix and based on the comic book of the same name, follows the personification of Dreams, who is captured for a century and then breaks out, aiming to restore his power.

Game Of Thrones

I have to put Game of Thrones on here. How could I not put this series? From the Game of Thrones cast to the heartbreaking deaths we witness, the shocking Game of Thrones moments, this series has it all if you’re looking for an intense fantasy show that will keep you hooked for eight seasons straight – even if the last one isn’t that great.

Outlander

While Outlander isn’t the typical fantasy I would put here, it’s still a fantasy nonetheless. Based on the novels of the same name, Outlander follows the story of a WWII nurse who somehow travels back in time and falls in love with a Highland warrior. Yes, that is the plot, and yes, it’s just as swoon-worthy as you can imagine. It’s one of the best Starz shows, for sure.

A Discovery Of Witches

For all the ones out there who love witches, you have to check out A Discovery of Witches. Based on the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches follows a historian who must work together with a vampire in order to protect a bewitched manuscript from the hands of evil monsters.

Wicked

Out of every movie I was imagining to put on here, Wicked was one I knew had to appear. This movie, based on the Broadway musical and, in turn, based on a novel about the wicked witch called Wicked, the film follows the life of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, and how she was actually once friends with Glinda the Good Witch. Truly such an iconic piece of cinema.

Once Upon A Time

If you love all those incredible Disney movies but want to see them in an adult way, then Once Upon a Time is the series for you. Many of the episodes and characters are based on classic fairy tales. The series is all about a boy discovering that the people who live in this new town they traveled to are actually all storybook characters.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians

While I’m toeing the line between Greek mythology and fantasy, I still believe these novels are more fantasy than anything else, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians are the best adaptations of them. The series is about a young man who finds out he is a demi-god, the son of Poseidon, and must go on a quest to retrieve Zeus’ lightning bolt to prove his innocence and restore order.

Attack On Titan

As much as Attack on Titan has traumatized me with its heartbreaking deaths, at the end of the day, it is a dark fantasy anime because this world most certainly does not exist. The series mainly follows Eren Yeager, a recruit of the Scout Regiment, who aims to explore beyond the three walls of their human civilization and take down humanoid Titans who seek to kill them. But there's A LOT more about this series that you will never expect – so go into it with an open mind. It’s based on the manga with the same name.

The Green Knight

Based on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, this movie is a visual masterpiece, and I need more people to watch it. The film, starring Dev Patel, follows a young man named Gawain who travels to face the titular Green Knight, a giant, green humanoid of a man who challenges those who come across him.

Locke & Key

Based on the novel of the same name, Locke & Key is a fantasy drama that follows the lives of three siblings who discover several keys throughout their new home that lead to mysterious doors. They unknowingly unlock gates that bring in dangerous entities that turn their lives upside down. While it’s not as crazy of a fantasy, it’s still a fun one with some cool visuals.

The Witcher

The Witcher is based on the novels of the same name and primarily follows the story of Geralt of Rivia. This monster hunter is known as a “witcher,” and his time was spent not only protecting the princess of Cintra but also running into horrors you could never imagine. Some of these monsters, man…they are a lot.

Sweet Tooth

Based on the novel of the same name, Sweet Tooth mainly follows a boy who is a deer hybrid after a virus has killed most of the world’s population. In this story, he looks to find his mother after his father passes, taking him on a fantastic journey.

The Hobbit

If you like The Lord of the Rings, chances are, you’re going to like The Hobbit. The movies are a prequel to famous films, and they follow Bilbo Baggins as he travels across the realm to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from a dragon that has overtaken it. This is J.R.R. Tolkien, so you know it’s going to be an intense fantasy.

The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

While The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina takes place in the modern day, there are plenty of moments in this that make it stand out as a fantastical fantasy series. Based on the comics of the same name, it follows Sabrina, a witch who, on her sixteenth birthday, must decide between leaving her mortal life behind to fully become a witch or leaving that to embrace her friends.

Arcane

Hands down, Arcane is one of the best shows on Netflix to binge-watch. The series, based on the video game franchise League of Legends, takes you into the worlds of both Piltover and Zaun, an overcity and the underground one beneath, where two sisters are separated by years of tragedy and are thrown into a magical conspiracy you could never imagine.

House Of The Dragon

If you liked Game of Thrones, you’ll probably enjoy House of the Dragon. Based on Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, the new series follows the life of the Targaryen family tree, mainly during the time of the Dance of Dragons, where two Targaryen heirs fight for the throne and cause thousands of deaths.

Good Omens

Based on the novel of the same name, Good Omens is a hilarious fantasy comedy that follows a demon and an angel who are representatives of heaven and hell – oh, and they just so happen to be friends despite coming from two completely different sides. And now, they must work together to prevent Armageddon and the Antichrist.

My Lady Janes

My Lady Jane, based on the novel of the same name, follows the titular character as she is convinced to marry a lord while also trying to vie for the throne of England – oh, and people in this world just so happen to possess the ability to take animal forms, so…there’s that fantasy twist. Seriously, this show is wacky but fun all the same, and it's a cute fantasy romp.

The Chronicles Of Narnia

I have to put The Chronicles of Narnia movies on here, even if there have only been three, but these films seriously take you to another world on a different level. The series is obviously based on the novels of the same name and follows the lives of siblings who discover that there is a whole other world on the opposite end of their wardrobe back home.

One Piece

Okay, before you get mad, I am not going to recommend the anime to you because trying to catch up with that will take you years. However, I will recommend the Netflix adaptation. The series, based on the manga of the same name, follows Monkey D. Luffy, a wannabe pirate who builds a crew to find a famous treasure in order to become King of the Pirates—oh, and he also has awesome magical powers that are crazy.

The Golden Compass

Based on Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, The Golden Compass is actually another adaptation of His Dark Materials, but it takes a lot more of a deep dive into fantasy. The main character, Lyra, travels by sea to the North in order to search for kidnapped children. It’s an epic fantasy.

Wednesday

While Wednesday certainly took the world by storm when it first came out, it’s still a fun, dark fantasy to watch. Based on the Addams Family franchise, the series follows Wednesday Addams as she attends a fantasy academy with all kinds of beasts, only to find out that her father is connected to a murder that occurred years ago, and now she must solve it herself.

The Princess Bride

Based on the novel of the same name, The Princess Bride follows a farmhand who travels across the land with some friends to rescue his beloved. The film is a comedy at its core, with hilarious moments and fun fantasy aspects, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants something light for an afternoon.

A Series Of Unfortunate Events

Based on the novels by Lemony Snicket, A Series of Unfortunate Events follows the lives of recent orphans Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. They struggle to find a permanent foster home as they are relentlessly hounded by Count Olaf, who seeks to claim their parents' fortune. This fun series has so many twists and turns, and the fantasy aspects are fun.

Warrior Nun

Based on the comic Warrior Nun Areala, this fantasy drama will have you on the edge of your seat. The series follows the life of a former quadriplegic orphan who discovers that she has powers now and must join an order of warrior nuns to fight against demons. Yes, this is a crazy premise and one that is perfect for dark fantasy.

Shadow And Bone

Based on the novels of the same name, as well as Six of Crows, the series follows the story of Alina Starkov, who, after believing herself to be powerless, finds out that she is a Grisha with a powerful ability that could save her world. While there are only two seasons, it’s a fun one to follow.

Cursed

Based on the book of the same name, Cursed is a one-season fantasy series that reimagines the King Arthur story. The series follows Nimue, a heroine who goes on a quest with Arthur to bear an ancient sword to Merlin. Arthur takes her on an adventure filled with beasts and magic.

While these are just some of the most fun fantasy adaptations out there, all of these are great picks, and there are so many others, too, that I didn’t even have the chance to write down. It’s time to escape.

There are some crazy popular TV shows out there. There are also some big characters from those TV shows that have gone on to become fan favorites. But there are also plenty of other characters as well that have fallen into a long hole of forgotten characters that we still can barely remember. So today, we'll get into some of the most obvious.

Heath (The Walking Dead)

It would be a crime if I didn't include Heath on this list. In all eleven seasons of The Walking Dead, I have never seen a character more forgotten than Heath. He seemed important, but then, after one bad zombie run, we literally never see him again and don't even know if he's alive or dead. There was some solution later, one where we found out Jadis traded him over to the Commonwealth, but that came years later.

Mark Brendanawicz (Parks And Recreation)

The Parks and Recreation cast is filled to the brim with talented stars and great characters, but one who was part of the main cast in Season 1 was Mark Brendanawicz. He was actually a love interest for Leslie and Ann, but he instantly left in Season 2 because he had an epiphany. And we never saw him again.

Sunshine Corazon (Glee)

There have been many characters on Glee who have come and gone from the limelight, but one I have to point out is Sunshine Corazon. She is a transfer student who dared threaten Rachel's spotlight in Season 2 of the show, so much so that Rachel tricked Corazon into going to a crack house. We saw Corazon one more time in the show before, but we never heard from her again despite her killer vocals.

John Bennett (Orange Is The New Black)

It felt like during the first few seasons of Orange Is The New Black, we would find a way for John Bennett to stick around. Eventually, he ends up leaving Daya and their baby alone when he has cold feet. And then we literally never hear about him again. I mean, the Orange Is The New Black cast was still stellar without him, but he just up and left.

Lincoln (The 100)

I really do love The 100 and think it's one of the best shows to binge if you want a series that you have no idea where it's going to go next. But sometimes, I forget the times when the series was grounded, and Octavia fell for a man named Lincoln, who taught her everything about being a Grounder – only for him to be executed a few seasons later and spurring her into the fighter she becomes. But I feel that we all forgot about him, right?

Nicole (Zoey 101)

It's really a sad story about what happened to the actress behind Nicole in Zoey 101, and I stand by her in what she has done standing up to the wrong situations behind the scenes at Nickelodeon. But that doesn't change the fact that her character, Nicole, was also completely forgotten in the show. Out of all the characters in the series, she didn't have much of a story and ended up getting written out entirely as the show went on.

Cathay Simms (The Office)

While Jim and Pam are certainly the most significant relationships in The Office, there have been plenty of other women in Jim's life. One of those was Cathay Simms, a young woman who tried to sleep with him on a business trip, but the trip itself fell apart. However, even when they get back to Scranton, she is literally never seen again.

Simon (The Walking Dead)

I might get some flack for this, but I swear, on my rewatch of The Walking Dead, I forgot Simon even existed until I saw him again. I think the main reason is that Negan became such a tremendous character that most of his followers felt like complete background people, even when some of them – like Simon – played essential roles in the plot. He was killed anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Ames (The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air)

While Tyra Banks has gone on to appear in plenty of movies and TV shows, she made her acting debut in Season 4 of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where she played Jackie, a friend of Will's from childhood. Their romantic chemistry is off the charts. Still, after a bad night of partying and her fed up with Will's behavior, she leaves. From then on, Jackie is not a part of the show anymore.

Scott Rosson (Gossip Girl)

Yeah, what happened with this? It felt like the fact that Dan and Serena had a half-brother was such a massive part of Gossip Girl for a bit, and then he just vanished without a trace. They even had a family reunion, but it's pretty much never brought up again. Like, how do you forget about a half-brother?

Abby Day (New Girl)

Believe it or not, Jessica Day has a sister—Abby Day, who the lovely Linda Cardellini played. We saw her once, and then we legitimately never saw her again during the series, which is pretty surprising because New Girl has some good consistency with a lot of its characters.

Santiago Herrera (Friday Night Lights)

This is another case of someone just vanishing from a TV show. He was a major recurring character in Season 2 of Friday Night Lights and had a pretty good story, but then he just vanished the next season. Legit, no one knows what happened to his character.

Frank Jr. (Friends)

Remember when Phoebe from the Friends cast got pregnant for her half-brother, Frank Jr.? Yeah, I barely did, too, but that did happen. Frank Jr. seemed like he was going to be a bigger part of the overall story, but then, after she gave birth to the triplets in the one-hundredth episode, we really don't see him or his family that often again.

Olivia Burke (Gossip Girl)

There are a lot of random people I forgot guest-starred in Gossip Girl, and one of those was Hilary Duff, who played Olivia Burke. The character was only there for six episodes, which explains why we forgot about her so quickly, but when looking back, it really feels like she should have been part of a bigger Gossip Girl cast. She was a good addition.

Robin Sylvester (Glee)

Sue had a daughter.

Yeah, that's right, I'll tell you again – Sue Sylvestor had a daughter, whom she named after her deceased sister, and then we rarely ever see her again—a baby. Don't even try to pretend you remembered because I sure as heck didn't.

Detective Daniels (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Alright, while what happened to Detective Daniels isn't that surprising, it's still a good thing to point out. This character was introduced in the pilot of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but we never see her again after. This isn't the first time a show has cut people out from the pilot, but still, a character that we totally forgot about.

Tara (The Walking Dead)

Out of any forgettable character on The Walking Dead, Tara is one that stuck around for several seasons, and I still needed to remember her. Maybe it was because her stories felt like they were pushed far in the background in comparison to what else we were all going through, but man, every time I've rewatched this show, I always forget that she becomes a decently big character.

Tori Scott (Saved By The Bell)

Tori was a new character introduced to Saved By The Bell in her later years. While she made friends with the group and even dated two boys, she was gone ten episodes later and is barely mentioned again.

Matt Rutherford (Glee)

The Glee cast is endless, and it feels like there are always new characters coming and going, but man, everyone forgets about Matt Rutherford. He was a background character in Glee in the first season, and there were so many other crazy characters there that it's honestly not that surprising he was just gone in Season 2. We will always remember to forget you, Matt.

Charles Miner (The Office)

I swear to God, every time I watch The Office, I always, always forget that Idris Elba guest-starred. He's a new VP for Dunder Mifflin, and he doesn't get along with Michael at all. While he was hilarious on the show, it wasn't enough for his character to last super long and be memorable.

Ben Geller (Friends)

I remember back in Friends Season 1, it was a big deal that Ross was going to have a baby with his ex-wife, but then we barely got to see him throughout the show. Thankfully, we did see him grow up a little when young Cole Sprouse played him, but before then, it was like Ben Geller never even happened.

Dani (Glee)

As a young bisexual woman, seeing Dani on Glee basically altered my state of mind. I wished she had stayed on the show forever because she and Santana seemed like a power couple with their voices. However, Dani (and Demi Lovato) ended up not staying on the show for long—and inevitably, Santana went back to Brittany anyway.

Isaac Lahey (Teen Wolf)

These teen supernatural dramas are filled to the brim with characters that just come and go all the time, and one to point out is Isaac Lahey, a student at the primary school of the franchise who was there and then just not the following season.

Ruby Lucas (Once Upon A Time)

Ruby is a character that seemed like she was going to have a big part in Once Upon a Time, but as any fan of this show knows, more and more storylines began to converge and push out other ones that could have been great, and Ruby's was sadly one of them. Eventually, she does get her happy ending, but no one ever really remembers her that much now.

Tina Pinacotti (That ‘70s Show)

Remember that Donna had a little sister? Yeah, I didn't either. We see Donna's supposed little sister, Tina, in an episode about a party, but then we never hear from her again after that episode. And then, we see Donna say several episodes later that she's an only child, so that got retconned.

Chuck Cunningham (Happy Days)

For those who have watched Happy Days, you might remember Chuck Cunningham, the brother of Richie and Joanie. However, he ended up becoming a background character and then vanishing altogether.

Morales (The Walking Dead)

We see Morales one other time in The Walking Dead besides Season 1 of the show, where we watch him leave the leading group with his family. And then, when he suddenly shows up as part of Negan's crew, he's killed by Daryl. Why bring him back to die? Ridiculous.

Mutt Schitt (Schitt's Creek)

Alexis from the Schitt's Creek cast has certainly had her fair share of love interests, and one of those was Mutt Schitt. That fling ended up fading away just as quickly as it began, and then soon, he was gone—which is honestly a shame because he was pretty funny.

Isla (Succession)

The Succession cast is so talented, and the characters have so much depth. One of those that continued to grow over the course of its four seasons is Roman Roy. But do you remember that in Season 1, he had both a wife and a daughter? Her name was Isla (the daughter), and yeah, we legit never heard about this little girl, like, ever.

Cooper Anderson (Glee)

Blaine had a brother who Matt Bomer played, and they actually had some sick duets on the show. But yet again, we legitimately never see him again. He was actually a great addition and really gave Blaine a kick in the butt to become better at singing (even though he already was), but we don't even see him in the finale or anything.

Otis (The Walking Dead)

There are plenty of The Walking Dead deaths that are pretty much forgotten about, and one of them, hands down, has to be Otis. One of the farmhands on Hershel's farm, Otis, is devoured by zombies thanks to Shane leaving him behind. We only saw him for a few episodes, and he was never mentioned again.

Ken Tanaka (Glee)

Ken Tanaka was the former coach of the football team at McKinley and was engaged to Emma. However, after suffering a nervous breakdown, he's gone from the show, and Coach Beiste takes his place. We never see him again after Season 1, despite him playing a big role in the first season.

Ginnifer Goodwin has a stacked resume for the large and small screens alike, ranging from Zootopia and Walk the Line in film to Why Women Kill and Big Love on TV. For some, however, Goodwin will be best remembered for playing Snow White for six full seasons of Once Upon a Time opposite Josh Dallas as Prince Charming and Jennifer Morrison as their daughter. That show ended with a whimper rather than a bang back in 2018, but what about a reboot for beyond the 2024 TV schedule? Goodwin shared her thoughts.

Ahead of the Zootopia 2 release date, Ginnifer Goodwin reflected back on her Once Upon a Time princess days while speaking with People.

Once Upon a Time was created for ABC by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who weren't shocked when word came that the show would end with Season 7. The seventh season was already a reboot of sorts, with most of the series regulars from the first six seasons – including Ginnifer Goodwin – absent. Goodwin did return for what was ultimately the series finale.

Of course, her time on Once Upon a Time had a massive influence on her personal life thanks to a fairy tale twist. Goodwin is married to Josh Dallas in real life, so the love story on screen in OUAT was reflected by the stars. The actress went on:

I think it's safe to say that plenty of Once Upon a Time fans would be happy to see an update on Snow and Charming in the form of a reboot, particularly since attempts at casting Ginnifer Goodwin in Josh Dallas' Manifest never worked out. The actress is certainly still connected to Disney, as she is reprising her animated role of Judy Hopps for the sequel to Zootopia. Why not add a bit of Snow White at some point? Interest in the character may be higher than usual over the next year with the release of the live-action Snow White movie in 2025.

Whether or not a reboot happens for Snow and Charming to return to the small screen, it's not hard to revisit the original run of Once Upon a Time with the right streaming subscriptions. You can find all seven seasons streaming with a Hulu subscription, and all seven seasons plus the Once Upon a Time in Wonderland spinoff with a Disney+ subscription.

Somewhat hilariously – to me, anyway – are the genres used on Disney+ to describe the series: "soap operas" and "fantasy." I don't think fantasy could be disputed by anybody who watches even a single episode of the fairy tale TV show, but I'm not sure I expected an official description to acknowledge just how soapy Once Upon a Time could get, for better or worse.

It may seem that your favorite character from your favorite TV show was always part of the main cast, but that might not be the case. In fact, some of the most iconic TV characters were never meant to last more than one or two episodes until a behind-the-scenes decision changed their fate. The following are some famous examples that might have you looking at your favorite show's next guest star differently.

Jesse Pinkman (Breaking Bad)

It was not just three-time Emmy winner Aaron Paul's brilliant, empathetic performance as Jesse Pinkman that kept him in the Breaking Bad cast until the end. Creator Vince Gilligan had a pitch for the early demise of Walter White's (Bryan Cranston) student-turned-partner that shocked studio executives so deeply, that he scrapped the idea and, thankfully, kept the fan-favorite character alive.

Andy Dwyer (Parks And Recreation)

The lovably absent-minded Andy Dwyer was originally meant to appear in just six episodes from the first season of Parks and Recreation when he was still dating Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones). Michael Schur found future blockbuster leading man Chris Pratt just too funny not to keep around, leading to his series regular promotion and Andy's eventual romance with April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza).

Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli (Happy Days)

The role that made Henry Winkler a star would eventually be the star of Happy Days. However, "Fonzy" was originally introduced as a small-sized character before the audience's rousing enthusiasm convinced producers to make his presence more frequent.

Frasier Crane (Cheers)

Kelsey Grammer's stint in the Cheers cast as Seattle-based psychiatrist Frasier Crane was originally meant to last only a few episodes. Yet, he became one of the NBC sitcom's most popular characters and went on to lead his own self-titled spin-off that was arguably as good as the original series.

Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

Spike started out as just another vampire for Sarah Michelle Gellar's titular hero to fight when he was first introduced in the second season of Joss Whedon's hit series. However, his subsequent popularity would ensure that James Masters got a regular role in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast and even became a love interest for Buffy.

Chandler Bing And Phoebe Buffay (Friends)

Before Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow were added to the Friends cast as Chandler and Phoebe, the sitcom was going to mainly focus on just four young New Yorkers. That was until the actors' natural charisma convinced creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman that they deserved starring roles instead of occasional appearances like they initially envisioned.

Carol Hathaway (ER)

If the pilot of ER were filmed exactly as it was originally written, it would been the first and last episode featuring Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies), who was initially going to take her own life. When test audiences made note of the nurse manager's chemistry with George Clooney as Doug Ross, the head writers kept her alive and on the show until Margulies left in Season 6.

Luke Danes (Gilmore Girls)

Diner owner Luke Danes was originally written as a woman, but creator Amy Sherman-Palladino did a gender swap when the network asked for more male characters. It was not until they noticed the chemistry between Gilmore Girls cast members Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham that their will-they-won't-they dynamic was incorporated into the dramedy.

Lafayette Reynolds (True Blood)

In only the second novel from Charlaine Harris' book series, The Southern Vampire Mysteries, Lafayette Reynolds is murdered. However, the psychic cook's onscreen counterpart (played by Nelsan Ellis) lived on in the HBO series adaptation (and one of the best horror TV shows on Max), True Blood, after developer Alan Ball realized how well the character fit in the world.

Castiel (Supernatural)

Played by Misha Collins (when possessing the body of Jimmy Novak), Castiel first appeared on Supernatural in Season 4 for what was intended to be just a three-season arc. Soon after, however, Collins was promoted to a series regular and the angel would remain a trusted ally to Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester.

Steve Urkel (Family Matters)

At first, ABC's spin-off of Perfect Strangers followed the lives of the Winslows, until the family sitcom's star family took a backseat to their nerdy neighbor, Steve Urkel. After Jaleel White's Season 1 guest spot rescued the show from cancellation, he made more appearances and was promoted to a series regular in the Family Matters cast in Season 2.

Andy Bernard (The Office)

Ed Helms' role as The Office character Andy Bernard was introduced in Season 3, which was initially conceived as his sole year on the mockumentary sitcom. However, creator Greg Daniels really liked the character and brought him back from anger management to be a permanent fixture of the Dunder Mifflin family.

Sgt. Fin Tutuola (Law & Order: SVU)

While most famous for a song about killing cops, rapper Ice-T's most famous acting role is, ironically, a police officer on Law & Order: SVU. Also ironic is the fact that Fin Tutuloa was originally conceived as a five-episode guest role in 2000, but would remain a regular part of the cast.

Jack Shephard (Lost)

Before Matthew Fox joined the Lost cast as Jack Shephard, the character was supposed to die in the pilot to establish that no character was safe in the survival drama. In fact, Michael Keaton signed on to play the role under this condition but dropped out when they decided to make him the lead because he did not want to commit to a series at the time.

Felicity Smoak (Arrow)

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Felicity Smoak was initially introduced in the first season of Arrow in a recurring role. Emily Bett Rickards would be promoted to series regular, however, when the role was promoted to Oliver Queen's primary love interest.

Steve Harrington (Stranger Things)

A prime example of a character who underwent a major personality change is Steve Harrington (Joe Kerry), who was initially introduced in Stranger Things' first season as some archetypal '80s high school bully with an expiration date. However, fans' unexpectedly positive response, thankfully, led to the character's revamping and ensured Keery would be a valuable member of the Hawkins crew.

Boyd Crowder (Justified)

Watching U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and career criminal Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) flip back and forth is one of the most addictive elements of Justified. Thus, we are thankful Boyd survived the pilot episode instead of being killed, like in Elmore Leonard's original short story, "Fire in the Hole," and that Goggins was promoted to series regular.

NoHo Hank (Barry)

Anthony Carrigan is easily one of the standouts of HBO's Barry cast for his performance as Chechen criminal NoHo Hank. It is no wonder his role expanded beyond Season 1 despite initial plans to kill him off.

The Armorer (The Mandalorian)

The Armorer (Emily Swallow) is one of the most fascinating and multi-layered characters from Disney+'s Star Wars Universe TV show, The Mandalorian. Her arc nearly ended with the first season in a scrapped scene that depicted her sacrificing her life.

Logan Roy (Succession)

No one could have succeeded in the role that Logan Roy played in HBO's Succession cast, but there could have been a major void left in his place had things gone as originally planned. Brian Cox's role was meant to die after Season 1, but instead survived and became one of the hit dramedy's most beloved characters.

Topanga Lawrence (Boy Meets World)

In creators Michael Jacobs and April Kelly's TGIF favorite, Topanga Lawrence was first introduced as that one weird girl in Cory Matthews' (Ben Savage) class. Soon enough, however, Danielle Fishel would be promoted to a series regular in the Boy Meets World cast after it was decided that the character would be Cory's love interest.

Gunther (Friends)

James Michael Tyler was merely hired on Friends as a background actor for scenes taking place at the Central Perk at first. In Season 2, however, the coffee shop manager was given the name Gunther, and the actor was promoted to a recurring supporting role that went on to appear in 185 episodes total.

Janitor (Scrubs)

The unnamed Janitor was originally conceived as a recurring role because it was going to be revealed at the end of Season 1 that he only existed in J.D.'s (Zach Braff) imagination. Creator Bill Lawrence decided to scrap that idea and make Neil Flynn a main part of the Scrubs cast after noticing the actor's improvisational skills, which ended beautifully for the character.

President Josiah Bartlet (The West Wing)

When Aaron Sorkin first conceived the idea for his Emmy-winning political drama, it was meant to focus primarily on the White House staff, with the President of the United States only showing up every so often or even not at all. Luckily, that changed and Martin Sheen's performance in NBC's The West Wing cast as Josiah Bartlet became one of the most beloved and inspiring highlights of the series.

Elijah Krantz (Girls)

Broadway theatre sensation Andrew Rannells first joined the cast of HBO's Girls as Hannah's formerly closeted college boyfriend Elijah Krantz in a very minor role before coming back occasionally during the first three years. By the dramedy's fourth season, creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner decided to add Rannells as a series regular and Elijah went on to become one of the series' most memorably funny characters.

April Ludgate (Parks And Recreation)

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is more than just a character who was not originally planned for a big role. There were no plans for her to be a part of the show at all until creator Michael Schur met Aubrey Plaza during the casting process and was so impressed with her talent that he invented a role just for her.

Aram Mojtabai (The Blacklist)

In the first season of NBC's The Blacklist, Aram Mojtabai was brought in by the FBI as a cyber crime consultant for what was only meant to be one episode. However, the writers responded well to actor Amir Arison's ad-libbing, started calling him back for more episodes, and made him a series regular in Season 2. 

Summer Roberts (The O.C.)

Rachel Bilson had very little screen time in the first episode of The O.C. and her character, Summer Robert, was practically written as an unnamed friend to Marrissa (Mischa Barton). Creator Josh Schwartz found the actor's grasp on the character to be very compelling and her chemistry with Seth actor Adam Brody led him to write her a much bigger part for the coming-of-age drama.

Joshua Rosza (The Originals)

Steven Krueger was first brought in for a minor recurring stint on The Originals as Joshua Rosza. However, by season 5, the vampire character became a regular role in the hit supernatural drama.

Killian Jones/Captain Hook (Once Upon A Time)

When ABC's fantasy series Once Upon a Time brought in Killian Jones (who is really Peter Pan's nemesis, Captain Hook), it was initially meant to be for a five-episode run in Season 2. While he quickly became a fan favorite due to his chemistry with Jennifer Morrison, his promotion to a regular role really came about when the cast and crew became deeply impressed with Colin O'Donoghue's performance.

Brittany S. Pierce (Glee)

Heather Morris was initially brought on to the Glee set to help teach the cast members how to do the dance from Beyonce's "Single Ladies" video before she ended up landing a guest role as Brittany Pierce. However, after he discovered her comedic talents, co-creator Ryan Murphy began giving the once-frequently silent cheerleader more things to say before making Morris a series regular.

Kima Greggs (The Wire)

While filming the first season of The Wire, Sonja Sohn discovered by accident that her arc as Shakima "Kima" Greggs was originally intended to end in the 10th episode of the crime drama. Luckily, HBO executive Carolyn Strauss expressed interest in the character, convincing showrunner David Simon to have her survive her planned shooting and come back for the remainder of the series.

There are those shows that ended long before we wanted them to, from '90s one-season wonders like Freaks & Geeks and My So-Called Life to perfectly timed dramas like Succession and Breaking Bad. These are not those shows. Instead, these television titles overstayed their welcome, long after their biggest stars departed, or the critical acclaim and awards dried up, or the storylines made any sense. Here are 32 TV shows that simply went on way too long. 

Californication

At the beginning of Showtime's Californication, which ran on the network from 2007 to 2014, the story of troubled novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) and his hedonistic ways felt fresh and edgy. But seven seasons of incessant drinking and womanizing majorly dulled any of that edge. 

The Walking Dead

How long can people survive a zombie apocalypse? Apparently, for a while—the AMC flagship series The Walking Dead went on for an unfathomable eleven seasons and the survival story of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) still isn't over, having been picked up in the spin-off miniseries The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. 

Dexter

One word: lumberjack. For eight seasons, the Showtime series followed Miami man Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) as he worked as a forensic pathologist by day and a vigilante serial killer by night. Spending nearly a decade watching Dexter get away with murder after murder felt both implausible and repetitive. And don't even get us started on that disappointing, woodsy series finale. 

Grey's Anatomy

It's felt like Grey's Anatomy has been resuscitated more times than any of the patients at Seattle Grace. It's been the longest-running medical drama on primetime, but it became barely the Grey's that O.G. fans remember. In later seasons, lead actress Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, scaled back to a recurring role, and beloved original characters like Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) were all long gone. 

The Handmaid's Tale

There's plenty of argument to be made that Hulu's dragged-out dystopian drama The Handmaid's Tale—which sees fertile American women (played by the likes of Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel and Samira Wiley) being forced into child-bearing slavery by a totalitarian government—should have been a one-and-done miniseries. After all, the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel on which it is based concluded after the events of the first season. 

Sons of Anarchy

Too-long episodes (many of which pushed way past the traditional hour-long mark) and irredeemable characters made it hard to continue to care about Jax (Charlie Hunnam), Gemma (Katey Sagal) and the rest of the outlaw bikers in the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club after seven seasons of the FX crime drama.

Shameless

Sure, Shameless had a jam-packed ensemble throughout its entire eleven season run, including Jeremy Allen White, William H. Macy, Cameron Monaghan and Shanola Hampton. But the grungy Showtime family drama lost its heart when lead actress Emmy Rossum—who played the older sister-turned-matriarch Fiona Gallagher—departed the series in season nine. 

White Collar

Many White Collar fans felt that things were getting a little rinse-and-repeat with the USA Network procedural by the end of its six-season run, with case-of-the-week storylines and stagnant character development. Imagine their surprise, then, when it was announced that the show was getting a Netflix revival, with actors Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen reprising their roles. 

This Is Us

The earned emotionality of early seasons of This Is Us—an NBC family drama that follows the lives of two parents (played by Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore) and their three children (Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley,) in several different time frames—started to feel manipulative and maudlin after six years. 

Suits

Some television shows suffer from an unsustainable premise. Case in point, Suits, the USA Network legal drama that follows a college dropout with a photographic memory (Patrick J. Adams) who is hired to work as an associate at a prestigious law firm, despite not actually having a license to practice law. Sure, Jan. Despite the dubious concept, Suits aired for a whopping nine seasons. 

Supernatural

Exactly how many demons, ghosts and monsters did brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have to hunt down to save the world? Fifteen seasons and 327 episodes worth! However, even many Supernatural superfans believe the CW fantasy series lost its way by the end and should have finished after season five when creator Eric Kripke left as showrunner. 

How I Met Your Mother

That is one long story that Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor) tells his adolescent children Luke (David Henrie) and Penny (Lyndsy Fonseca) about how their dad first met their mother. In fact, the tale took nine whole years, with many meandering tangents along the way, that we wouldn't blame the kids if they, too, got bored listening to it. 

Glee

Few shows faced quite the critical fall from grace as Glee. Early on, the FOX teen show—which centered on the plucky members of New Directions, the glee club of the fictional William McKinley High School—was an awards show juggernaut, winning several Emmys in its first few seasons, but those high notes were soured when the scripts focused less on the show's original characters and more on ad nauseum celebrity guests. 

Scrubs

Starting with the ninth season, many of the original Scrubs cast—including Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn—stepped back from being main characters on the show, popping up in only a handful or as little as one episode that season. Longtime fans of the NBC medical comedy didn't love that their favorites got replaced with new characters, played by the likes of Kerry Bishé, Michael Mosley and Dave Franco.

The Big Bang Theory

Running for 12 seasons and 279 episodes, this CBS sitcom about Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and their similarly geeky pals got bogged down by too many main characters, recycled old catchphrases and the use of laugh tracks as a crutch. 

The Simpsons

As old as, well, the person writing this very article, the satirical animated sitcom has broken several TV records in its three-decade tenure, including being the longest-running scripted primetime series in American television. And though Homer, Marge, Bar, Lisa, Maggie and the rest of the residents of Springfield are comedy legends, they now feel like relics of a different generation. 

Riverdale

The occurrences within the town of Riverdale were easy enough to keep track of in the early seasons of the CW teen drama, which was populated with the famous characters from Archie Comics (Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and the like.) But as the writing got messier and mazelike, and the characters' storylines more and more outlandish, the soapy series became impossible to take seriously by the end of its seven-season run. 

Game of Thrones

The brazenness with which the Game of Thrones creators killed off some of its biggest, most beloved characters — Ned Stark (Sean Bean) in season one, his son Robb (Richard Madden) and wife Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) in season four — majorly lost its umph when the show killed off Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the season five finale...only to resurrect him two episodes later. 

Homeland

The first two seasons of this Showtime espionage thriller — in which Claire Danes stars as a CIA officer with bipolar disorder, opposite Damian Lewis playing a Marine Corps Scout Sniper who has just returned home following eight years in captivity — received universal acclaim, including the 2012 Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. However, though Homeland had eight seasons total, it never recovered in quality following the death of Lewis's character in season 3. 

Two and a Half Men

It's always a gamble when you replace the main character of a TV show, especially such a long-running one as the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. Originally starring Charlie Sheen as a hedonistic jingle writer living with his uptight brother (played by Jon Cryer) and his nephew (Angus T. Jones), the show misguidedly hired Ashton Kutcher to lead the cast in seasons nine through twelve after Sheen left the show to enter drug rehab. 

One Tree Hill

It rarely works when a high school show follows its characters to college and into adulthood. One Tree Hill, the early-aughts teen drama that ran for three seasons on The WB and another six on The CW, stretched the storylines of Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton), Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and the rest of the Tree Hill Ravens crew too long past graduation, especially as both Murray and Burton departed the show after season five.  

Lost

Airing 121 episodes over six seasons from 2004 to 2010, Lost packed a lot of supernatural nonsense onto that island, frustratingly devolving over the years from a character drama to a complex mythology swirling with time travel, smoke monsters and electromagnetic phenomena. Even co-creator Damon Lindelof has said that he wanted the show to end after three seasons instead of six. By the time the series aired its final episode, the sci-fi series had offered up far too many questions and far too few answers.

Modern Family

Even Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy in 11 seasons of the Emmy-winning ABC comedy, was kind of disappointed by the show's later seasons. And she seemingly wasn't the only one: though it had earned both critical acclaim and strong viewership for its earlier installments, season 10 had the worst ratings of the series. 

Once Upon a Time

The thing about fairytales is that soon enough you get to that happily ever after at the end. The ABC fantasy drama Once Upon a Time seemingly didn't get that message because it made fans wait for that storybook ending for seven long seasons — even Robert Carlyle, who portrayed Rumplestiltskin in the series, retrospectively admitted to The A.V. Club that he felt that the series "ran for too long."

Killing Eve

On paper, we should have never wanted Killing Eve to end, with its cast led by a superb Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer — as a British intelligence investigator and the psychopathic assassin she's tasked with capturing, respectively — and scripts from the brilliant mind of Fleabag scribe-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. However, when Waller-Bridge departed as head writer after the first season, the once-great show simply ran out of story. 

Bones

Crime procedurals have a habit of staying on TV long after they should, what with their formulaic case-of-the-week structure that's easy to replicate season after season. And Bones, the long-running Fox crime drama starring Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, is definitely no exception, overstuffed with soapy gimmicks, themed episodes and a way-too-long will-they-won't-they dynamic between Deschanel's Temperance Brennan and Boreanaz's Seeley Booth.

The Office

Of course, we love the entire Dunder Mifflin crew, but everybody knows that The Office should have naturally called it quits when lead Steve Carell — who played the "World's Best Boss," a.k.a. the delightfully incompetent Michael Scott — departed the show after its seventh season. Not even big-name actors like Will Ferrell and James Spader could fill the hole Michael Scott left. 

Westworld

Westworld's first season is to this day the most-watched first season of any HBO original series. However, that popularity, coupled with early critical acclaim, didn't last long for the dystopian Western — the writing and character work drastically declined by the time the show was canceled in November 2022, and just a month later, the entire series was brutally removed from HBO Max. 

That '70s Show

The Fox teen drama — centered on a groovy group of teenage friends living in the fictional town of Point Place, Wisconsin — worked because of the chemistry created by its young cast, including Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama. So of course the show itself took a creative hit when that chemistry was altered following the departures of Grace and Kutcher after the seventh season. 

Smallville

Initially a show about a teenage Clark Kent dealing with issues both human (bullies, crushes) and superhuman (kryptonite and such) while growing up in fictional Smallville, Kansas, Smallville seemed to care less and less about the human side of the Man of Steel over the course of ten seasons. Many fans suggest that the TV superhero should have hung his cape after season seven, which saw the departure of both the show's main villain Lex Luther (Michael Rosenbaum) and Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. 

13 Reasons Why

Based on the young adult novel by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why is one of those cases where a multi-season show was made to be a limited series. Instead of just neatly telling the story of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) and the tapes she leaves behind after tragically ending her own life, the Netflix teen drama inexplicably changed genres throughout its four-season run, becoming a poor murder mystery in the show's third season. 

Heroes

Though the NBC superhero drama Heroes only went on for four seasons, critics of the show were already pointing out less-than-engaging storylines and lack of cohesion as early as season two. The tales of ordinary people who discover that they have superhuman abilities and have to work together to prevent catastrophic futures should have been adrenaline-pumping stuff, but it simply couldn't sustain that energy after its acclaimed first season. 

I am an absolute sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers plotline. Whether it's the best enemies-to-lovers movies or the best enemies-to-lovers relationships in TV shows, it draws me in every time. So, in honor of that, we're going to dig into the best enemies-to-lovers relationships in movies and TV that still make me swoon.

Mia And Nicholas (The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement)

I feel like The Princess Diaries series is a forgotten Disney company movie, but I know that there are a certain number of people out there who are still craving to see a third. And man, I would give anything to see Mia and Nicholas again. Truthfully, they weren't the biggest enemies, but the tension was there, and they had such good sarcastic banter. 

Leslie And Ben (Parks And Recreation)

It's hard to remember a time when Leslie and Ben didn't get along because their relationship always felt so pure in later seasons. But they were not friends when Ben entered the show. Eventually, they learned to respect each other, and that respect later turned to love, and it made me adore the Parks and Recreation cast so much. 

Tyler And Nora (Step Up)

Tyler and Nora are a vital example of enemies that tend to have more in common than you'd think. Step Up is one of the best dance movies out there, and truthfully, I could watch these two dance and fall in love slowly over an hour again and again. I mean, they were so good that the two actors were married in real life for a time. 

Quinn And Logan (Zoey 101)

As someone who grew up watching Zoey 101, seeing Quinn and Logan get together was eye-opening. I never realized that the cute boy could get the nerdy girl, and what made it even better is that it really did feel like genuine love—one that was confusing at first but turned out to be the most healthy relationship of everyone. 

Melanie And Jake (Sweet Home Alabama)

Reese Witherspoon's best movies will always include Sweet Home Alabama, and the critical relationship of that movie, Melanie and Jake, defined my expectations of romance. What makes them so good is the fact that they already have a past, so there's tension there, and it's like lovers turning into enemies and then turning back into lovers. Adorable. 

Max And Kyle (Living Single)

Living Single is probably one of the most classic sitcoms of all time, and of course, it had to have a great enemies-to-lovers storyline with Max and Kyle. These two ripped at each other for years, but eventually, they ended up in the same bed and became one of the best couples in the series. 

Elizabeth And Mr. Darcy (Pride & Prejudice)

I literally could not think of a better example of enemies to lovers than Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. They are the prime pick for something like this. I don't even need to explain why they make me swoon. Heck, I need my own, Mr. Darcy. 

Josh And Mindy (Drake & Josh)

If we're being honest, Josh and Mindy were the perfect couple in Drake & Josh. They started off as nemesis because both of them excelled at being, well, smart, which they both seriously loved. Eventually, enough push and pull led to them getting together, and they wound up having a hilarious relationship—one that I still quote with my own partner, where he even says, "One condition: I get to be the boyfriend."

Jake And Neytiri (Avatar)

I know! A part of me forgot they were enemies to lovers after how loving they were to each other in Avatar: The Way of Water. But Neytiri literally hated Jake—which she had the right to. His people invaded her home and killed her loved ones. But once he started to see the beauty behind her culture and began to love her for her, everything changed. 

Jon And Ygritte (Game Of Thrones)

The Game of Thrones cast features several relationships, most of which end in disaster or pain, and Jon and Ygritte are the perfect example of that. The two went from enemies to lovers and then back to enemies, but right at the very end, she gets an arrow through the heart—a shocking Game of Thrones moment that still makes me sad. 

Cher And Josh (Clueless)

It always blows my mind when I rewatch Clueless and see young Paul Rudd because he literally looks the exact same. Then it blows my mind to remember that Cher develops feelings for her ex-stepbrother, and I try to recall that this movie is fictional. This is the definition of a crazy enemies-to-lovers romance—one I can barely believe. 

Clarke And Lexa (The 100)

The 100 was hands down one of the best CW shows, and one of the best relationships on there was Clarke and Lexa, known as Clexa to the fans. They are another excellent example of people who were enemies to lovers to kind of enemies to so much more before it was all stolen away – and yes, I still remember the online protests. It was a time to be alive. 

Damon And Elena (The Vampire Diaries)

Admittingly, I hopped on The Vampire Diaries train much later in the game, but the number of people who were obsessed with Damon and Elena blew my mind—which is crazy considering they ended up finding their happy ending. They were heated towards each other, but as he started to change more, they got together. 

Johnny And Baby (Dirty Dancing)

Ohhh, Dirty Dancing is the ultimate "hate at first sight" because these two were not on the same wavelength. However, when the two are forced to train together for a competition, sparks begin to fly, and it's there that you really start to see just how well they fit together. 

Anthony And Kate (Bridgerton)

Look, I'm a massive fan of Bridgerton’s sweet romances just as much as the next person. I love the story of Colin and Penelope, and I adore Daphne and Simon. But these two brought the spice that was desperately needed for this story. Anthony and Kate did everything but get together and kiss in the second season of Bridgerton, which made that tension delicious. 

Lou And Will (Me Before You)

Emilia Clarke's best movies will always include Me Before You because she kills it in this movie, but I consider it a challenge not to cry during this film. Lou and Will are the purest examples of a love that you never thought you would have, but the moment you realize just how good it is, it's ripped from you. They weren't the best of friends at first, but man, when this ending hits, it hits. 

Cece And Schmidt (New Girl)

I love the New Girl cast, and I love Schmidt the most. A big reason is that Cece and Schmidt are hilariously adorable. Yes, there were indeed some significant differences and toxic moments between them along the way, but in the end, they were a pretty healthy couple who had grown a lot. I was fully rooting for them. 

Andy And Benjamin (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days)

These two are honestly secretly enemies in the schemes they are doing, using them for their advantage. But what happens when actual love begins to take over? Of course, hilarities happen, and yes, you will laugh and cry and love Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey that much more. 

Mia And Sebastian (La La Land)

While my opinion on the La La Land ending has changed, I'll openly say that the enemies-to-lovers romance between Mia and Sebastian is actually pretty accurate to how it would happen in real life. These two just somehow always run into each other at their worst moments and basically make a love story out of it – you can't help but love that. 

Maria And Captain Von Trapp (The Sound Of Music)

The Sound of Music is one of those movies that, when you watch it as an adult, you really start to understand it so much more. While the music is fantastic, the love story that grows between Maria and Captain Von Trapp makes it that much better because it's love in its purest form. 

Klaus And Caroline (The Vampire Diaries)

The Vampire Diaries featured plenty of love affairs that either ended happily or terribly, and one that I have to point out is Klaus and Caroline in The Vampire Diaries. These two were the epitome of hot and cold, but man, if it didn't draw you in, you didn't didn't have a heart. They'd be at each other's throats one episode and then make out ten episodes later. You have to love it. 

Loretta And Ronny (Moonstruck)

Moonstruck is a great movie overall, and honestly, Loretta and Ronny have one of the best romances that I've seen in a film because it feels natural. It's all about that slow realization about the person who drives you crazy and how, sometimes, it could be the person you least expect to be who gives you the passion you are looking for. 

Mickey And Ian (Shameless)

I could go on for hours about Mickey and Ian from the Shameless cast. Oh my God – if you were on Tumblr during this time, I salute you. We are soldiers who somehow survived the heavy influx of all the shipping of these two. Beginning off as literal enemies who were at each other's throats to getting married several seasons down the line, you can't help but love them. 

Emma And Hook (Once Upon A Time)

Okay, okay, I'm going to admit something. Hook was definitely one of my first significant boy crushes, and I was the hugest fan of this relationship between him and Emma, which is an enemy-to-lover relationship. Even the way they fought when they were enemies was so steamy, and when they finally got together, I felt like I had won the lottery. We truly won. 

Patrick And Kat (10 Things I Hate About You)

10 Things I Hate About You is one of the most iconic teen comedies of all time, mainly because of the steamy chemistry between Heath Ledger's Patrick and Julia Stiles' Kat. These two, from the beginning, have this sarcastic nature that is so endearing to you, but as the film goes on, and he tries to win her back, you learn to love them more. 

Belle And The Beast (Beauty And The Beast)

They are the blueprint. Belle and the Beast are pure enemies to lovers. While there was really no fighting between the two, Belle traded herself over to save her father from the Beast, therefore making her his prisoner. She was not a massive fan of him. But as they started to get to know each other, love blossomed in the best way. 

Catra And Adora (She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power)

Look, if anyone knows me, they know I'm a huge fan of cartoons. I don't care if some of these might be meant for kids, but these two are just such a great pair. It felt that for years, these two wouldn't get together, but eventually, they did, and it felt like the world was at peace, if just for that one moment, after so many years of fighting. 

Andrew And Margaret (The Proposal)

The Proposal is one of those films that I put on when I know I'm going to need a good laugh because you can't laugh at Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock as Andrew and Margaret. These two have such quippy, sarcastic banter, and when love eventually comes despite their hating start, it's some of the best you'll witness. 

Logan And Veronica (Veronica Mars)

As someone who hadn't watched Veronica Mars for a long time but had friends who had, they always said Logan and Veronica were the perfect example of enemies to lovers. They started not on a positive note, but another favorite trope of mine – forced proximity – makes them work together – and sparks begin to fly. 

Giselle And Robert (Enchanted)

Okay, so they weren't really enemies, per se – more like grumpy x sunshine – but there's no denying that Robert was not a fan of Giselle whatsoever when they first met. But her bubbly nature was too much to say no to, and he probably fell even harder than her. 

Kathleen And Joe (You've Got Mail)

There are a few Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks movies we could point to, but we'll stick with You've Got Mail for now because it's a great enemies-to-lovers romance. These two are rivals in real life but secretly online penpals, unknowingly, to the other, and when they eventually find out, it's how they fall after that makes it so good. 

Harry And Sally (When Harry Met Sally)

While they are friends for a good portion of the movie, these two do not get along at first in When Harry Met Sally. Sally hates Harry's whole vibe, but eventually, they fall for each other in the very end. 

Gosh, this makes me want to rewatch all these shows and movies. I need some good romantic comedies with these storylines. 

I'm a massive fan of television. It started when I was young and watched hours of Disney Channel shows, but of course, it has now expanded into the world of adult television through several different genres – drama, comedy, horror, you name it, and I've probably watched it. I had to do something while at home when the pandemic had us confined to our homes. 

But in my time watching show after show, various options started out fantastic. They had excellent plots, brilliant storytelling, and great acting, then slowly dwindled. From terrible, horrible TV show endings or shows that dipped in quality over time, here are 30+ great shows that lost their way by the end. 

The Walking Dead

Do you want to hear a fun fact about myself? I watched The Walking Dead until the bitter end, and the emotional Walking Dead finale made me cry a ton. But man, it definitely could have been better. 

The Walking Dead started hot when it first aired and had a pretty steady and brilliantly told storyline until about Season 6, and then when Andrew Lincoln ended up leaving, it all started to tumble down the weeds. 

While we have a good amount of fan favorites coming back for The Walking Dead universe shows, it never quite picked itself up after that when the show was one the series to be watching. 

Lost 

Lost is known now for its awful finale, but truthfully, the entirety of the series had a downfall slump. The main reason is that it was literally consumed by all the mysteries that needed to be solved by the end of the series, and somehow, the show 'lost' itself that way. And, of course, we don't even need to talk about the horrible ending. I hadn't even watched the show then; it was all I heard about for weeks. 

Riverdale 

I remember writing long ago that I had plenty of issues with Riverdale, but I never expected it to turn into the off-brand MCU because that's exactly what happened somehow and they all had powers. And then, in the last season, the main group went back in time somehow. What the heck? What happened? 

This hit CW show started so good with the murder mystery, and then it just tumbled completely.

Game Of Thrones

So I'll be honest here and say that I have rewatched Game of Thrones, and plenty of it still holds up, but you can tell it starts to dip in quality at the very beginning of Season 7 – maybe even Season 6, though I did love "Battle of the Bastards."

Even so, the Game of Thrones ending is pretty much considered one of the worst of the 2010s, and as a hardcore Daenerys supporter, I fully stand by that. They did my girl – and almost all of these characters – dirty. 

The Office

The Office is another clear-cut example of when a main character leaves, the show starts to fall apart. The hit sitcom did try to pick itself up after Steve Carell left in Season 7, but it never reached the heights of where it once was. I was glad we saw him for the finale, but it never felt the same.

Heroes

The first season of any show is crucial, and Heroes had one of the best, featuring the story of ordinary people who discover they have superhuman abilities. This was the superhero show before all the MCU shows started to take over. 

But then Season 2 came along, and this show went downhill fast. It was just horrendously bad, and I, for one, struggled to get through the rest of the seasons after that. 

Westworld

Westworld had everything going for it: a fantastic idea, an excellent Westworld cast, and, the best yet, the funding of HBO to truly take this world into the new age. 

But then both Season 2 and Season 3 happened, and the plot got so convoluted I could barely keep up with it, and all the characters I once loved, I  ended up hating. And then the fourth season came and it’s just so different from what we were given. Unsurprisingly, it was canceled after the fourth season when backlash started to grow more and reviews went down.

That '70s Show 

I don't know what it is about Season 7 and some sitcoms, but that was the case for That '70s Show, when Topher Grace, who played Eric Foreman, left the show. And, of course, it never recovered. I don't care if he did appear in That '90s Show; it just doesn't feel the same. 

How I Met Your Mother

I don't need to get into this. How I Met Your Mother was great, from the fantastic cast to the comedy to Barney and his jokes, but the intensely divisive ending ruined everything. It just did. I can't return to the series and only recommend finishing it to some.

Weeds 

Weeds is a black comedy that ran for several seasons on Showtime and tells the story of a widowed mother who starts selling marijuana to support her family. And while the first few seasons were great, the rest were very different. It felt like another show in its later seasons, and by the end (102 episodes), the plot didn't feel remotely similar to how it was in the first season. 

Glee

There is so much to like about Glee. The Glee cast is incredibly talented, and the best Glee covers still top my playlists, but the story took a nosedive after Season 3. Both Season 1 and Season 2 were great, and Season 3 was alright but still enjoyable, but Season 4-6 was just an utter catastrophe of a story that was only saved by some of the brilliant voices on that show. Other than that, it can stay locked away at McKinley High. 

Supernatural

Supernatural was an excellent fantasy series about two brothers hunting down demons, ghosts, and monsters. And I did enjoy this series until the end, but it certainly was not the same show from the beginning. Many plot points needed to be clarified, and there was plenty of fan service, so as much as I like my spooky boys, it didn't need to be like this. 

The Big Bang Theory 

So I'll fully say that The Big Bang Theory is a great show, but this is another case where it feels that the last few seasons were there just for the money. There was no impressive story to be told, and the characters experienced little growth. It was just a dive into obscurity.

Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars was just an unnecessary drag. Again, a murder mystery is always good, but when the puzzle doesn't make sense towards the end, it makes the show that much harder to follow. And not only that, but the main characters weren't still in high school by the end. They were in college and out in the working world – this should have been just a high school story. 

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl should have just ended after a few seasons, but it went on because it was the biggest show ever at the time. The series was fun until the later seasons, where the reveal of who Gossip Girl is was utterly disappointing and nonsensical. Not only that, but the finale – and final season overall – felt rushed. 

Two And A Half Men

Fun fact – I just binge-watched all of Two and a Half Men not long ago and I enjoyed it – until about Season 10. 

Charlie Sheen did bring a certain vibe to the show that Ashton Kutcher couldn't, but he did keep the show going for about two seasons before it started to fall apart more than it already had. 

Euphoria 

Okay, so Euphoria technically is still ongoing. However, I'm still determining if we'll even get Season 3 ever since the tragic passing of Angus Cloud. I'd be fine if it ends with two seasons. 

The first season of Euphoria was great television, but the second was so out there and had so many plot points that didn't make sense. The acting was the only thing that saved it because that's always great. But other than that? There's little to love about Season 2. Some things were improved, but others weren't. 

Gilmore Girls

We all like to turn on Gilmore Girls when the fall comes around, but have we forgotten that the ending is terrible? And that Rory's character is utterly destroyed by the end of it? Yeah, I thought so – and the revival didn't do an excellent job of making it any better. 

Killing Eve

The first two seasons of Killing Eve were brilliant, and I loved watching this cat-and-mouse game. But then the next two seasons' plots fell apart entirely, and it led to characters that really shouldn't have been featured getting the spotlight, followed by an ending that fans are not super happy with. 

13 Reasons Why

I liked 13 Reasons Why during its first season because it told a bold message about the effects of bullying and words. But this show should have remained just a miniseries because the seasons that followed were unnecessary and ultimately dissolve the point of the first season when they somehow try to redeem Bryce (the assaulter). 

Scrubs 

Scrubs ran for nine seasons and took the world by storm with its medical comedy mixed with drama. Plus, viewers got to know Dave Franco for the first time. But the later seasons feel like messy attempts to try and make funny jokes that do not land and a story that is not there at all. 

Suits 

I know Suits was wildly popular on Netflix in August 2023, but the series is just ok to me compared to many other great legal dramas. Don't get me wrong, the first few seasons are great television, but as the show goes on and the cases become stranger and more unique, it's different from the show it originally was. 

Bones

Twelve seasons happened for Bones, and the show was alright, but everything was dragged out so long that by the time there was a payoff, there were barely any more fans to care as much. And not only that, but the story would become more convoluted as time passed. I won't spoil anything, but it's a hard watch for later seasons. 

Community 

Okay, hear me out; I love this show and the Community cast, but let's be honest: Seasons 4, 5 and 6 were not the best. Both Season 4 and 5 were bad, and while Season 6 was getting a little better, it was nowhere near as good as the first three seasons of this show. I'm hoping that the Community movie will bring that level of comedy back.

Money Heist 

The thing about Money Heist is that it was so much fun at first. Was it over the top? Yes, totally, but that's what made it fun to watch. But then, as the series went on, it just got ridiculous with its story, and nothing made sense.

Once Upon A Time

Admittedly, I was a big Once Upon a Time fan because I loved Disney movies, but by the time this show ended, it felt like a Disney cash grab using the most famous names from their list of princesses and characters to make a buck. Elsa somehow even made it into this show. The story didn't mean anything anymore.  

True Blood

I put this on here because I know how badly my mother and father hated the ending of True Blood, and I decided to watch it. Not only did the series' narrative completely fall apart by the finale, but the characters were making choices and decisions that didn't align with what the story had set up for years before. Nothing made sense. 

Dexter

I enjoyed watching Dexter for the first time, and I actually say Dexter is worth re-watching, but I can see why most people don't watch it after Season 5 nowadays. The story certainly takes a dip in quality, and the ending is only for some and is controversial for a reason. I do think Dexter: New Blood made up for it a bit. 

Shameless

Shameless was my favorite TV show, but after Emmy Rossum left, it was always different. The Gallagher family dynamic fell apart, and nothing ever flowed as well. Rossum wasn't even there for the finale, making it feel even more incomplete. 

The Vampire Diaries

Do I even need to get into this? The Vampire Diaries died when Nina Dobrev left, and the story fell apart. I don't care what spinoffs there are; you can't make me watch them. 

Modern Family

Don't even get me started on Haley in this show or any of the choices these characters make at the end of Modern Family that make me want to rip my hair out. I will go on for hours. This show was so good until it wasn't, and it drove me mad. 

House Of Cards

House of Cards was a brilliant drama on Netflix, but of course, the central star, Kevin Spacey, faced several allegations of sexual misconduct, so it had to shift course – and from there, it just fell apart. It should have been canceled once Kevin Spacey. 

All of these shows are worthy of a single watch, but maybe not a rewatch. There is plenty of great drama here, but I can also live without it. Either way, I'll go check out Breaking Bad for the umpteenth time – that'll never let me down. 

Are you looking for something witchy for this Halloween season with the whole family? Because I am – and lucky for us, there truly are some fantastic witchy shows out there for folks of all ages. 

I love Halloween. The best horror movies and TV shows are some of my favorites, and now I have an excuse to watch them all month. I love anything that resembles any spookiness, from monsters to vampires, but something I've always loved the most was witches. I sort of blame that entirely on my tendency to rewatch the Harry Potter franchise, but either way, witches have always been my go-to favorite spooky character. 

And there are plenty of great witch shows out there. There are also some great not-to-scary witch movies to watch too. But what if you're on the market for an excellent witch TV show that you and your kid or teenager could watch without the risk of possibly traumatizing them for life? Well, hold onto your witch hats, because I have eight great shows you should watch to celebrate Halloween. 

Charmed (1998 - 2006)

When anyone thinks of a family-friendly witch show, Charmed is likely at the top of their list. This series, which aired for eight years, follows the story of three sisters who discover they have powers and unite to fight against evil forces that threaten humanity. 

As someone who grew up with a mother who was really into horror movies and witch shows like this, trust me when I say that it is a family-friendly show. I'll admit that it has darker moments, as most witch shows do, but truthfully, I don't remember them as much as an adult. I think it's because I'm so focused on the magic happening that it doesn't faze me – it melds well with the story. 

The Charmed cast is talented, and the magic is fun to watch. It's a long series to check out, and totally worth the hype.

WandaVision (2021)

Yes, I had to put this on here, and I have no regrets. WandaVision is one of the many Disney+ Marvel shows (which we've ranked), and it follows Wanda Maximoff as she lives in a strange neighborhood with Vision that can only be described as sitcoms from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and beyond, as strange happenings begin to occur. 

I will fully say that you probably need to be at least a little familiar with the MCU before watching this because you need to know Wanda and Vision's story from both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. But honestly, you don't need to have seen all the Marvel movies in order to appreciate all the fun witchcraft that's featured in it. 

It's an MCU show, so it never gets too dark, and there are plenty of fun and intense moments with exciting visuals that anyone would enjoy. Plus, watching Scarlet Witch is always fun – and let's be honest, this is a show to watch if you love Elizabeth Olsen.

The Owl House (2020 - 2023)

The Owl House is a fantastic animated series that follows the teenage Luz, who stumbles upon a magical portal that brings her into a world filled with sorcery. Despite not having any magical powers, she trains to be a witch by becoming an apprentice.

This is one of the most family-friendly picks on this list. Not only is it a Disney cartoon with some great animation, but it's also made for tweens and children. However, there is so much to love about The Owl House besides the magic, from the lessons it teaches to the characters that we begin to love as time goes on, and to top it off Luz has a great story behind her.

Bewitched (1964 - 1972)

We have to put Bewitched on here. Released during the 1960s, Bewitched starred Elizabeth Montgomery, and it told the story of a witch who winds up marrying a mortal man and tries to leave her magical life behind to live an everyday life, but of course, she runs into hijinks. 

The first few episodes of WandaVision seem inspired by this sitcom, and it's hilarious. I've only seen the first few seasons, but I understand why this show was such a big hit. The jokes are still funny to this day, and the effects – while dated now – are fun. It's such a sweet series – and one anyone can watch.

Sabrina: The Teenage Witch (1996 - 2003)

This sitcom from the late 1990s that lasted into the early 2000s is based on the Archie Comics series of the same name. Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, starring Melissa Joan Hart, tells the story of young Sabrina Spellman, who finds out she has powers on her 16th birthday, and she must learn to use them now while also living an everyday life. 

Running for seven seasons, this show was a significant hit. While my darker self likes the Netflix adaptation and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina cast a little more, there is just something about this series that is so sweet. From the spells to Hart's performance to even Salem, the talking cat, I can understand why this was such a big hit. I probably would have loved this – had I been alive at the time to watch it.

Wednesday (2022 - Present)

Wednesday is one of the biggest shows on Netflix. The series is a spinoff of The Addams Family, focusing on Wednesday Addams when she attends a new school called Nevermore. While there, she runs into trouble almost immediately after she walks through the gates and starts investigating a possible plot against her father from years ago. 

While I know Wednesday isn't entirely witchy, plenty of aspects are magical, from the monsters to the school to even the shapeshifters we get to meet. And truthfully, this show is a great family-friendly series to watch. I viewed it with my entire family, and I even know others who have children, barely seven years old, who love this series. It's great for everyone – and now, we need to wait for Wednesday Season 2.

Wizards Of Waverly Place (2007 - 2012)

I had to put this here, because this is honestly one of my favorite witch shows ever out there, and we have to talk about it!

Wizards of Waverly Place is a Disney Channel show that follows a group of siblings who live in New York City and have magical powers. Throughout the series, they must learn how to use them to the best of their ability to compete to find out who gets to keep them down the line. 

This show was my childhood for so many reasons. First, you should watch it if you love Selena Gomez because she stars in it, but this show is also so funny for no reason. I rewatched it, and I still found it just as amusing as an adult, if not more so, because I understand more of the jokes. The magic adds to the fun – and yes, I am still waiting on a Wizards of Waverly Place reunion.

Once Upon A Time (2011 - 2018)

Last but not least, we have Once Upon a Time. This show mainly follows the character Emma Swan and her son, Henry, who discover that the townspeople of their new home are fantasy characters. Their world is then split up into two different ones – the real world and the fantasy world. 

This show doesn't have as much of a "witchy" vibe as some others, it brims with fantasy and there are lots of characters with magical powers, offering plenty of fantastical moments to captivate kids and adults. Furthermore, this show brings famous fairy tales to life, making it worth checking out if you have kids who adore Disney characters.

There are so many great family-friendly witchy shows out there, but these are just some of my picks. And who knows – you might find a show you will love forever. Now, if you don't mind me, it's time to keep waiting for any updates on the next season of Wednesday. 

For about as long as there has been television, there have been spin-offs — TV shows that exist in the same continuity as one popular series, typically focusing on a side character made into the central protagonist. Some have proven to be very successful (such as when Kelsey Grammer’s Cheers character became the title role of the Frasier cast) while others are remembered today as a notorious failure (such as when Friends cast member Matt LeBlanc led Joey for two seasons — a season too long for some).

Then, there are some series spun-off from hits that exist in-between, neither achieving success, nor going on to be remembered for their short-lived run. We thought it would be fun to jog your memory (or inform you for the first time) about those shows by looking back at some our favorite TV shows and their forgotten spin-offs.

21 Jump Street (Booker)

While the breakout star of 21 Jump Street was obviously Johnny Depp — who would cameo in the 2012 movie adaptation as Tom Hanson — it was Richard Grieco — who appeared in the 2014 sequel, 22 Jump Street — who got to lead his own show as recurring character, Dennis Booker. However, Booker, which followed the rebellious, youthful-looking cop as an insurance investigator, only lasted one season from 1989 to 1990.

The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (Planet Sheen)

Most fans might consider The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius to be one of the rare TV shows that surpassed the movies they were based on, but would not say the same about Planet Sheen. In fact, the series — which follows the adventures of Jimmy’s hyperactive best friend (Jeffrey Garcia) while stuck on an alien planet — managed to last three seasons, but has an IMDb rating of 2.9.

All In The Family (Archie Bunker's Place)

Creator Norman Lear’s groundbreaking comedy, All in the Family, was the parent series of several other successful sitcoms, including Maude and The Jeffersons, with one of its lesser-known spin-offs being Archie Bunker’s Place. Starring Carroll O’Connor reprising his Emmy-winning role as the owner of his own bar and restaurant, the series actually had a good four-year-run, but now lives in obscurity.

Alice (Flo)

The series adaptation of Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore promptly steered clear of becoming a forgotten TV show based on a movie, but its sole attempt at a spin-off was not as successful as its parent series. Her scene-stealing, Emmy-nominated performance on Alice as outspoken server Flo earned Polly Holliday her own eponymous series set at her own diner in her Texan hometown, but after one season, viewers told the show it could kiss their grits.

American Idol (American Juniors)

There have actually been multiple times when popular reality TV shows attempted a version that featured underage participants, including American Idol. Airing on Fox in 2003 (just a year after its predecessor’s debut), American Juniors featured host Ryan Seacrest, according to EW, and Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini as a judge, but did not generate quite the same buzz — despite launching Lucy Hale’s career, which Jimmy Kimmel Live! unearthed.

Barney Miller (Fish)

One of the reasons why Barney Miller is remembered as one of the funniest and best mystery TV shows of its time is its hilarious supporting cast, which included the late Abe Vigoda in the Emmy-nominated role, Phil Fish. ABC greenlit a sitcom that would follow the New York detective outside of the precinct, but — as USA Today recalls — it was cancelled after one-and-one-half seasons in mid-1978, less than a year after Fish’s retirement episode of Barney Miller aired.

Battlestar Galactica (Galactica 1980)

Years before the 2000s-era reboot of Battlestar Galactica became one of the most beloved sci-fi TV shows of its time, the first reboot of Glen A. Larson’s cult favorite series was greenlit pretty quickly after it ended. However, Galactica 1980, which brought the action to modern day Earth, would also end very quickly after 10 episodes, due to poor reviews and was later edited into the TV movie, Conquest of the Earth. 

Baywatch (Baywatch Nights)

In 1995, while Baywatch was still in its prime, David Hasselhoff reprised his Baywatch cast role of Mitch Buchannon on a series that saw the lifeguard moonlighting as a private investigator. As ratings declined, the writers opted to turn Baywatch Nights into an X-Files-style paranormal investigation drama for its second season, which would also be its last.

Bewitched (Tabitha)

In 1977, just five years after the end of Bewitched, an attempt to continue its magical legacy was made in the form of Tabitha. Following Samantha and Darrin’s eponymous daughter (Lisa Hartman) as an adult, the show failed to cast a spell on viewers and was cancelled after 11 episodes.

Bones (The Finder)

A Season 6 episode of Bones called “The Finder” — in which Brennan and Booth call upon the help of eccentric, but inquisitive, Army veteran Walter Sherman (Geoff Stults) — served as a backdoor pilot for a spin-off of the same name. Also starring the late Michael Clarke Duncan, The Finder, unfortunately, could not find an audience and did not make it past its 13-episode run in 2012. 

Cheers (The Tortellis)

While Frasier would find great success in its 11 seasons, it is not the only spin-off from Cheers, let alone the first, which would be The Tortellis. This sitcom put Dan Hedaya’s recurring role as Carla’s ex-husband, Nick, and his own family at the forefront, but was met with criticism for its stereotypical depiction of Italian-Americans (according to ScreenRant) and low ratings, sealing its early downfall.

Columbo (Mrs. Columbo)

If you want to see a good whodunit TV show in the style of Columbo but with a female lead, I would recommend checking out Peacock’s Poker Face with Natasha Lyonne, instead of Mrs. Columbo. This mystery series starring fellow Orange is the New Black cast veteran Kate Mulgrew as the never-before-seen wife of Peter Falk’s iconic lieutenant was not so well-liked by audiences, or the producers of the parent series, and was taken off the air after 13 episodes, as Slash Film recalled.

Dawson's Creek (Young Americans)

In the same year he was introduced on Dawson’s Creek for a three-episode stint, Rodney Scott’s Will Krudski went on to be the lead character of Young Americans, which aired on The CW when it was still called the The WB. Despite being ahead of its time for its commentary on themes like gender roles and starring Kate Bosworth and Ian Somerhalder, the absence of anyone from the Dawson’s Creek cast may have deterred viewers from tuning into its summer 2000 run.

Doctor Who (K-9 And Company)

In its 60 years of existence, the British sci-fi staple, Doctor Who, has inspired multiple spin-offs, with Torchwood being a successful example, but we cannot quite say the same about K-9 and Company. The series never continued past its 1981 pilot, but a more successful team-up of Elisabeth Sladen’s Sarah Jane Smith with the robotic dog called K9 would happen years later in the form of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The Dukes Of Hazzard (Enos)

Bumbling Hazzard County cop Enos Strate (Sonny Shroyer) had the honor of leading his own self-titled series that followed his adventures fighting crime in L.A. with his partner, Turk Adams (the late Samuel Wright). However, he would return to his original role on The Dukes of Hazzard after Enos faced cancellation after a single, 18-episode season in 1981.

Dynasty (The Colbys)

The primetime soap opera Dynasty — the most popular show of the 1984-1985 season — focused on the personal struggles of the wealthy Carrington family. In 1985, ABC debuted a spin-off centered on the rival family, the Colbys, which would earn an Emmy nomination for its cinematography, but was cut short after just two seasons.

Fame (Fame L.A.)

More than a decade after the end of Fame — which was loosely based on 1980 movie of the same name — a new series emerged that was set on the other side of the country. Yet, despite earning Emmy Awards wins for its opening title music and choreography, Fame L.A. did not live forever, and was cancelled after one season in 1998.

Family Ties (Day By Day)

There are some spin-offs that really try to stretch the connective tissue between to their parent series, such as Day by Day, which starred Douglas Sheehan as Brian Harper, who was written as an old college roommate of Steven Keaton (Michael Gross) from Family Ties. That tie was, apparently, not strong enough for this NBC family sitcom to last longer than two seasons, but  — on the bright side — it would allow series regulars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Courtney Thorne-Smith to go on to star on Seinfeld and Melrose Place, respectively.

The Golden Girls (The Golden Palace)

After The Golden Girls ended with Dorothy (Bea Arthur) moving away with her new husband (Leslie Nielsen), Rose (Betty White), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Sophia (Estelle Getty) would invest in a very understaffed Miami hotel. Also starring Don Cheadle in one of his earliest roles and Cheech Marin, The Golden Palace was actually the third spin-off of The Golden Girls (after Empty Nest and Nurses) but the first to last only one season.

Growing Pains (Just The Ten Of Us)

Even if you have never seen Just the Ten of Us — for which Bill Kirchenbauer reprised his recurring Growing Pains character, Coach Graham T. Lubbock, from 1988-1990 — you might recognize a few of its key actors. Namely, A Nightmare on Elm Street cast lead Heather Lengegnkamp and Matt Shakman (director of WandaVision and the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot) played two of Graham’s eight children and Dennis Haysbert played his assistant coach, Duane Johnson.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.)

Most modern day audiences had never even heard of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. before Guy Ritchie’s movie adaptation of the 1960s spy series came out in 2015. Therefore, we would certainly forgive anyone for forgetting (or never knowing about) The Girl From U.N.C.L.E., which followed the assignments of another agent from the titular organization, played by Stefanie Powers, for 29 episodes from 1966 to 1967.

Once Upon A Time (Once Upon A Time In Wonderland) 

Just a couple years after the debut of Once Upon a Time, ABC introduced another story of fairytale characters struggling to find an escape from the real world which looked directly toward the seminal work of Lewis Carroll for inspiration. Yet, critics and audiences were more impressed with the visual aesthetic than anything else about Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, which went off with its head after one 13-episode season.

Party Of Five (Time Of Your Life)

Acclaimed family drama Party of Five was a breakout hit for rising stars Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, and Jennifer Love Hewitt — the latter of whom would reprise her role as Sarah Reeves Merrin as the lead of Time of Your Life. Also starring Jennifer Garner, the series — in which Sarah moves to New York to learn more about her biological parents — suffered from low ratings during its sole season, which was split in half by a five-month hiatus before Fox’s failed attempt to bring it back for Summer 2000.

Pretty Little Liars (Ravenswood)

It is funny to think of how many somewhat ordinary dramas take place in the same universe as another series that is complete fantasy, such as Ravenswood. In 2013, Pretty Little Liars cast member Ashley Benson appeared as Hanna Marin to establish her hit series’ connection to this show — about five strangers embroiled in a curse plaguing the titular town — which lasted one season on Freeform when it was still called ABC Family.

Rugrats (Rugrats Pre-School Daze)

A special episode of Rugrats — which Paramount+ recently rebooted — that imagined the babies as preteens would inspire a successful series called All Grown Up!, which was the first spin-off to the long-running Nicktoon, but that was not always the case. According to Variety, Nickelodeon had originally been developing a series focused on Angelica Pickles and Susie Carmichael that would be shelved for years and eventually be released in 2005 as Rugrats Pre-School Daze, which only had a total of four episodes.

Sanford And Son (Sanford Arms)

Despite a few exceptions on this list alone, spin-offs tend to be most successful when a popular and recognizable character is given the lead role and not an entirely new character, like what they did with Sanford Arms. This continuation of Sanford & Son saw widowed father Phil Wheeler (Teddy Wilson) take over Fred (Redd Foxx) and Lamont’s (Demond Wilson) rooming house — a change of pace that did not seem to resonate with viewers and resulted in a very quick cancellation in 1977.

That's So Raven (Cory In The House)

Raven-Symoné would reprise her role as a psychic of the same name as an adult on Raven’s Home, which was not the first time Disney Channel debuted a That’s So Raven spin-off. In 2007, Kyle Massey came back to play Cory Baxter on Cory in the House, in which he moves into the White House after his father (Rondell Sheridan) becomes the President’s personal chef. Also starring Madison Pettis, you could say the sitcom lasted a fitting two terms (seasons) after 34 episodes. 

Three's Company (The Ropers, Three's A Crowd)

The original Three’s Company landlords were Stanley (Norman Fell) and Helen Roper (Audra Lindley), until they left in 1979 to lead their own self-titled sitcom that was cancelled after two seasons in 1980. In 1984, the parent series’ finale served as a sort of backdoor pilot to a new show called Three’s a Crowd — centered on Emmy winner John Ritter’s character, Jack Tripper, his new girlfriend, Vicky (Mary Cadorette), and her father, James (Robert Mandan), who becomes their landlord — which only lasted one season.

Walker, Texas Ranger (Sons Of Thunder)

Years before The CW rebooted Walker, Texas Ranger with Jared Padalecki in the title role (and also greenlit a short-lived prequel set in the old West called Walker: Independence), Chuck Norris and his younger brother, Aaron, had their own idea for a spin-off. After introducing Dallas detective Carlos Sandoval (James Wlcek) in Season 4, he was given his own series in 1999 called Sons of Thunder — in which he becomes a private investigator — that ran for six episodes on CBS.

The X-Files (The Lone Gunmen)

There are three TV shows that exist in Chris Carter’s X-Files universe: the iconic original (which was brought back for two more seasons in 2016), the marginally successful Millennium (which was retroactively confirmed as a spin-off), and The Lone Gunmen, which some say Fox should be embarrassed about cancelling after one 13-episode season. 

Focusing on the titular trio of eccentric conspiracy theorists (Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund) who previously aided Mulder and Scully, the pilot episode of the spin-off, which aired in March 2001, is eerily similar to the tragic events of September 11th that year — as Journal News Online recalls — which is not why it was cancelled, but why it is somewhat infamous to fans who may remember it.

Manifest aired its series finale over a month ago, and while there was a lot that the series covered and answered, there were definitely still a few things missing from the show’s final season. On top of the fact that the finale opened up another 828 mystery, proving that the plane’s story will never fully be concluded, the show also almost included a Once Upon a Time reunion, and we really were robbed of what could have been.

Before Josh Dallas was Ben Stone, one of the 828 passengers and co-captain of the Lifeboat in the cast of Manifest, the actor portrayed Prince Charming/David on ABC’s beloved fairytale series Once Upon a Time. Even though the show was about a fantasy world, one fairytale actually did come to life when Dallas met and married his on-screen Snow White, Ginnifer Goodwin. The two are still going strong, and they have two kids. While they haven't appeared on screen together in a while, it turns out the actors behind Snow and Charming could have come back, albeit in a different way, on Manifest.

Back in 2019, Ginnifer Goodwin was asked if she would ever want to guest star on her husband’s show, and she was enthusiastic about the possibility, saying that she “would love to.” While it seemed like there was potential to have Goodwin guest star on Manifest during Season 2, it never came about. Flash-forward four years and two more seasons, and it unfortunately never happened. Josh Dallas told TVLine that it just wasn’t in the cards:

While it is a disappointment that Ginnifer Goodwin was never able to guest star on Manifest, at least they tried. 

It would have been amazing if she did guest star, though. I would have loved to see her as either a passenger, colleague, or maybe a long-lost love of Ben’s that would have further complicated his relationships with Grace or Saanvi. 

Just because Ginnifer Goodwin wasn’t able to appear on Manifest, it doesn’t mean she’s not a fan. Josh Dallas admitted that his wife is actually a big Manifester, which sometimes doesn’t work well when it comes to watching the Netflix series:

It must be hard to live with someone who knows all of the secrets of a TV show and isn’t allowed to say anything, but it’s funny to know how Goodwin acts when she watches Manifest. Now that the final episodes have dropped, though, I wonder how she reacted when she got to the big Death Date twist, and what she said to Dallas after finding out about it. 

Even though Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin weren’t able to reunite on-screen in Manifest, hopefully, they are able to collaborate professionally soon. Personally, I'd love to see a Once Upon a Time reunion since the series ended in 2018, and it'd be amazing to return to the world of fantastical characters. While that's a far off fantasy, the entire show is available to stream with a Disney+ subscription, so fans can still see Charming and Snow together. You can also stream all of Manifest with a Netflix subscription while you dream about what could have been between the two actors on Dallas' other hit show. 

You want to know who I think of when someone asks me who the best television villain of all time is? I think of Gus Fring, from Breaking Bad. You want to know who plays that man? Giancarlo Esposito. 

While Giancarlo Esposito has been around for decades with plenty of movies and TV shows, there are certain roles that stand out among the rest, from villains who are off in space to those in a dystopian world. Esposito has done it all. If you’re looking for the best Giancarlo Esposito movies and TV shows, here is where you can find them streaming, or available to rent. 

Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul (2009 - Present)

As mentioned in the intro, I was introduced to Giancarlo Esposito through Breaking Bad. In this famous AMC series, we primarily follow Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who's diagnosed with cancer, and turns to drug dealing (primarily making meth) in order to provide for his family after his death. 

From Season 2, up until the end of Season 4, Giancarlo Esposito played Gus Fring, and man does he know how to act. Gus Fring was the first TV villain I saw where I was genuinely interested as hell in his character, because he was so terrifyingly normal, but could kill you in seconds. Giancarlo Esposito was killer (pun intended) in his role, and honestly, he made me want to try Los Pollos Hermanos more than once. 

He’s also reprised his character in Better Call Saul, the spinoff of Breaking Bad, which is coming back for its sixth and final season in 2022, so if you want to see the brilliance that is Gus Fring, please, watch these shows.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials/Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2015/2018) 

Next up, we have The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials and The Maze Runner: The Death Cure. These two films in the Maze Runner trilogy follow the same group from the first movie on more dangerous life or death trials, trying to survive while also exposing secrets about why they are in The Maze. 

While there are many reasons to watch The Maze Runner series, from its stunning visuals to the entertaining story, another great reason to watch is because Giancarlo Esposito actually has a role in two of them, playing Jorge, a berg pilot for WICKED in the film. While his part is relatively small, I’ve always loved his character and the twists that follow, but I won’t reveal them here. You’ll just have to watch the trilogy to find out.

The Mandalorian (2019 - Present)

I’m sure you’ve at least heard of The Mandalorian. This popular Disney+ show follows Din Djarin, a lone Mandalorian who acts as a bounty hunter, until one of his assignments leads him down a very different path. 

Giancarlo Esposito plays Moff Gideon, another villain in his repertoire who was on the hunt for Mando's latest target. I’ve always seen Esposito as a brilliant character actor. He truly becomes the character and portrays them in a way that really makes me believe that they’re real, and that’s the same with Moff Gideon. While he’s only appeared in seven episodes of the two seasons, he’s made a prominent mark and is a worthy adversary for Din Djarin.

Okja (2017)

In this Netflix original film, Okja tells the story about a modified pig of the same name, who's raised by a young girl. But, when this animal is suddenly kidnapped and taken for testing, it’s up to her and some allies to try and get her pig back. 

This movie has a ton of stars in it, and Giancarlo Esposito is one of them. He plays Frank Dawson, one of the executives of the Mirando Corporation - the main corporation that was experimenting on the pig in the first place. Even with so many big stars in this movie, Esposito stood out with his great performance.

Once Upon A Time (2011 - 2017)

In this popular fantasy show, Once Upon a Time tells the story of a young woman who ends up moving to a small town, but as she learns very quickly, the fairytales she always thought were fake as a child are very real, and throw her life for a loop.

Giancarlo Esoposito is one of those names from a show like this you wouldn’t expect, just because it feels like such a different role from what he normally does, but in Once Upon a Time, he plays the Magic Mirror - while in the real world, he’s known as Sydney Glass, a journalist. His story is interesting and his acting is great and I really wish we had gotten to see more of him before the show had to come to an end.

The Jungle Book (2016)

Of all the Disney live-action remakes, this has to be one of my favorites. The Jungle Book is a retelling of the original Disney story of Mowgli, a child who was raised in the jungle by wolves and has to face serious threats as he grows older.  

The Jungle Book voice cast was stacked, with so many talented actors who signed on, and Giancarlo Esposito voiced Akela, the alpha of the pack that Mowgli is in. And, man, his voice gives me chills every time I watch this film. He has such a presence even just through voice-acting and you know instantly who it is. He was the perfect choice to play a leader like this.

Godfather Of Harlem (2019 - Present)

In this TV series, Godfather of Harlem captures the story of the real-life Bumpy Johnson, a man who served several years in prison and emerged from his time only to find his home, Harlem, now run by Italian mobsters. And now, he has to try and get control again. 

This show is so good; it's one of the best crime dramas I have seen in years and it's so entertaining from beginning to end. Starring Forest Whitaker, it’s brilliantly acted, wonderfully told, and has some amazing performances - including Giancarlo Esposito as Adam Clayton Powell Jr., a local Baptist pastor who was actually the first African American ever to be elected to Congress from New York. Truly, one of his best acting performances yet that deserves much more credit.

School Daze (1988)

You can’t have a Giancarlo Esposito list without mentioning School Daze. This socially relevant Spike Lee movie follows undergraduates in college that are in Greek life, and how one homecoming weekend where the groups clash ends up turning their lives upside down at a historically black college. 

This was hands down one of Esposito’s biggest roles that really boosted him into the spotlight. School Daze was where he really got to shine as Julian Eaves, otherwise known as “Dean Big Brother Almighty,” showing just how amazing of an actor he is. The movie also touches on several serious issues, such as class, racism, and more, and is thought-provoking in the best ways.

Dear White People (2017 - 2019)

This popular Netflix series, Dear White People, based on the film of the same name, follows several Black students at a prestigious, fictional Ivy League university, and touches on topics that affect their everyday lives, from typical coursework and personal relationships to racism and discrimination in the classroom. 

Giancarlo Esposito was on the show for the first three seasons, primarily as the narrator - which is perfect because his voice is smooth like butter. But, he also played Dr. Edward Ruskins, a former professor who worked at the university and played an important role in the kids' lives, further showing his skill as an actor. The show ended in 2021 after four seasons, but it’s certainly worth the time to binge if you haven’t seen it yet.

Stargirl (2020)

You want a fun movie jukebox musical? Check out Stargirl, a Disney+ original movie, which follows a coming of age story about jumping into high school and learning about love, life, and everything in between. 

Stargirl is one of those films where it’s hard to explain exactly what goes on in it except for the fact that it’s a great movie musical, and you have to watch it for yourself. Giancarlo Esposito plays Archie Brubaker, mentor to Leo, one of the main characters of the film, and what I love the most about his performance in this is his charisma, and chemistry with Graham Verchere (who plays Leo). Their moments are truly some of the best in the movie.

The Boys (2019 - Present)

Last but not least, we have the amazing Amazon original series, The Boys. This superhero series turns quite diabolical as we get an inside look into what life is really like for these supposed morally-good superheroes, and what goes on behind the scenes when saving people is turned into a business by mega-company, Vought International.

Giancarlo Esposito plays Stan Edgar who is - you guessed it - the CEO of Vought International and the big baddie - or one of the many big baddies, in this show. And let me tell you - I love Esposito in regular dramatic roles or playing a good guy, but man does he play a villain so well. His role as Edgar is just so good and has me pumped for summer 2022 and The Boys Season 3, because I can’t wait to see him return as a villain once more. If superheroes - or just pure chaos, as this show tends to be sometimes - are your thing, this is the series for you.

With a career that has spanned decades, it’s not surprising that Giancarlo Esposito has so much wonderful stuff to watch. And, I’m sure that in the next couple of years, we’ll only continue to see what more he has to bring in terms of his amazing acting talent. Now, if The Mandalorian Season 3 could just get here already, that would be great.  

Starting out as a reality show star before becoming a serious, respected actor does not come very easily for most people who attempt to make that transition. However, Jamie Chung has beaten the odds, having gotten her big break on The Real World: San Diego (the MTV hit’s 14th season) and, 17 years later, eventually landing a major role in the Dexter: New Blood cast as an ambitious true crime podcast host.

The Showtime original miniseries - a continuation of the killer Emmy-winning drama Dexter - is not even the biggest title on the Korean-American actor’s resume so far. Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: After a brief appearance in the pilot as one of Lovecraft Country’s more overt and familiar sci-fi/horror references, Jamie Chung reappeared as the main focus of the riveting sixth episode of the fantastic and harrowing Emmy-winning HBO series as a military nurse with a strange secret rooted in Korean folklore, which is all I will reveal about that.

Big Hero 6 (Disney+)

A teenage mechanics prodigy (Ryan Potter) joins forces with a friendly, large, inflatable robot (Scott Adsit) and others to form a crew of powerful, technologically advanced vigilantes.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: After lending her voice to the role of the resilient, mechanically inclined superhero Go Go Tomago in 2014’s Big Hero 6, Jamie Chung would also reprise the role on the animated series spin-off of this fun and inventive adaptation of the comic book of the same name, that easily earns a place among the best animated Marvel movies yet.

Star Wars: Visions (Disney+)

An ambitious musical group hounded by a legendary bounty hunter, a boyish android discovering a heartbreaking secret about his creator, and a warrior who chooses to defend the town of the woman he loves are just some of the stories found in this collection of tales from a galaxy far, far away.   

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: Jamie Chung would later lend her voice to an episode of another animated series from Disney - Star Wars: Visions, an exciting and unique anthology which borrows themes and story elements from the Star Wars movies and incorporates them into beautiful Japanese anime aesthetics.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: The same year that Jamie Chung became a Marvel movies star with Big Hero 6, she starred in an entirely different kind of comic book adaptation - Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the prequel/sequel to the 2005 masterpiece based on co-director Frank Miller’s series of noir-inspired graphic novels, in which she took over the role of deadly, little Miho (previously played by Sin City cast member Devon Aoki).

A good-natured cop (Ben McKenzie) struggles to avoid succumbing to corruption as a young, orphaned boy (David Mazouz) aspires to avenge his wealthy parents’ murder, in an infamously crime-ridden metropolis.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: Jamie Chung also became a DC TV shows star when she joined the Gotham cast in Season 3 for six episodes as Valerie Vale, a Gotham Gazette reporter, one-time lover of Jim Gordon, and aunt of journalist and eventual Bruce Wayne love interest, Vicki Vale.

Sucker Punch (Netflix)

A young woman (Emily Browning), sent into a mental institution by her abusive stepfather, imagines a bizarre, surreal reality in which she and four other resilient girls plan their action-packed escape.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: In 2011, before appearing in any of the various comic book adaptations listed above, Jamie Chung starred in a film that feels very much like it could have been based on a comic book called Sucker Punch - a star-studded, visually stunning, feminist fantasy tale from co-writer and director Zack Snyder.

The Hangover Part II (HBO Max)

Two years after their disastrous Las Vegas bachelor party, history appears to be repeating itself for Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis), when they gather for Stu’s wedding in Thailand and, inexplicably, wake up in Bangkok one morning.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: Also in 2011, Jamie Chung joined the cast of one of the most successful comedy movie franchises of all time when she starred as Stu’s bride-to-be, Lauren, in The Hangover Part II - which I believe, despite many glaring similarities to the plot of its 2009 predecessor, is actually funnier and more entertaining than some give it credit for, especially with Chung involved.

Eden (Amazon Prime)

After she is kidnapped and forced against her will into becoming a sex worker, a young, Korean-American woman (Jamie Chung) desperately tries to do whatever she can to survive the cruel, inhumane treatment of her captors.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: Jamie Chung gives an astonishing performance in her first leading role as the title character of 2012’s Eden - a startling, thoroughly arresting inside look at the business of human trafficking.

Knife Fight (Showtime)

A gifted, success-driven political strategist (Rob Lowe) begins to see the darker nature of his profession while trying to help three different troubled clients at one time. 

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: In the same year that she led the cast of Eden, Jamie Chung got to show off her comedic chops as Rob Lowe’s bright assistant in Oscar-winning director Bill Guttentag’s Knife Fight - a satirical, politically driven ensemble dramedy far more relevant today than it was at the time it came out.

Resident Advisors (Pluto TV)

Things get increasingly out of hand for a young woman (Jamie Chung) who accepts the responsibility of overseeing a rowdy college dorm along with her not-so responsible co-workers.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Jamie Chung: Jamie Chung’s comedic chops were front and center when she led the cast of Resident Advisors - a short-lived comedy series as charming and relatable as it is bizarre and crass, that was originally created for Hulu by Alex J. Reid, Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Natalia Anderson in 2015.

There are plenty of other great titles starring Jamie Chung that are available now, and some to look forward to as well. For instance, she will appear amongst an all-star cast in the dark comedy Reunion, which is now in post-production, and will voice Hel in Netflix’s upcoming animated adventure series, Twilight of the Gods.

Sarah Hyland was a fixture on ABC for 11 seasons as Modern Family's ditzy sweetheart Haley Dunphy, and while the sitcom’s later seasons were far from ideal for the actress, it looked like Hyland was set to continue her relationship with the network in the fairy tale drama Epic. But in a disappointing move for Hyland and fans alike, ABC's pilot season decisions have been made, and Epic did not make the cut for further development.

Epic was also a promising prospect for the network for being created and executive produced by Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, but according to Deadline, ABC execs chose to pull the plug on the project altogether. Sarah Hyland was set to star as the princess Rose, and it would have been the first major series for Hyland following Modern Family’s conclusion in 2020. Prior to the award-garnering sitcom's conclusion, Hyland was fairly vocal about her disappointment in Haley’s storylines, and the actress as well as her fans were looking forward to seeing her go all in on a brand new fantastical role, especially with Horowitz and Kitsis’ background in the genre.

Epic was also set to star Brittany O’Grady (Paula in The White Lotus) and Eleanor Fanyinka (Pure and Holby City) in an anthology series that reinvented the fairy tale for a new audience. Brigitte Hales, who was part of the Once Upon a Time writing team, was also on board. It would have been really cool to see what the OUAT-friendly creative team would have done with Sarah Hyland’s modern-day princess and the genre in general, especially considering the freedom that comes with an anthology. Considering the Disney-fied drama did its own reconfiguring with storylines and casting in later years, one might have hoped that ABC would grant them a do-over to create a project more suited to the network's tastes, but apparently not.

Epic was not the only pilot passed on by ABC. Triage, Dark Horse and National Parks Investigation, which was being written and executive produced by Kevin Costner, also were not picked up, while Eve and Brandy's Queens was given the green light. Surely it’s just a part of the business, with pilots being passed on all the time, by every network that still employs that development process. Still, some high-profile projects seem destined for success, and ABC has come under fire already this year for rash decisions concerning its projects' futures.

Rebel, the legal drama starring Katey Sagal and created by Grey’s Anatomy’s Krista Vernoff, was canceled after just five episodes had aired. ABC blamed low ratings for the impulsive axing, while Sagal questioned if the show’s late time slot might have played into it drawing smaller audiences on Thursday nights, even with Grey's Anatomy as a lead-in. Regardless, the cancellation news seemed really fast, considering the success the show’s cast and crew had already brought to ABC through other projects. It's not like Sagal won't be sticking around for The Conners Season 4, but still.

Sarah Hyland’s fans might have to wait a little longer to see her in another TV series, but the actress has definitely been hustling since her days as Haley Dunphy. Since Modern Family ended, Sarah Hyland has also been connected to the multi-camera sitcom Yours, Mine and Paul’s with her Modern Family father Ty Burrell and an EP. She’s also set to star in the upcoming LGBTQ romcom My Fake Boyfriend alongside Keiynan Lonsdale and Dylan Sprouse. And she's also reportedly working on a comedy with Emily V. Gordon that is based on their lives.

Then there’s always the chance Sarah Hyland will make an appearance on the reality show circuit with her fiancé Wells Adams, who is among the guest co-hosts for Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise, which premieres August 16 on ABC. With Hyland being a longtime superfan of the franchise, it's been rumored that fans might indeed see her on the beach. There are some actors who managed to hit it big before becoming Marvel stars, and then there are those who were relatively unknown before joining the comic book movie franchise. Falling under the latter category would be Sebastian Stan, who is reprising his role as James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes as the co-lead of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+.

After playing a World War II-era solider turned brainwashed assassin turned metal-armed superhero, the 38-year-old Romanian-born actor would go on to star in Oscar-winning dramas like I, Tonya, high-brow comedies such as Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, or action thrillers not related to comics, as the upcoming Netflix movie The 355 qualifies as. However, before becoming a recognizable MCU favorite, Sebastian Stan (who also bears a striking resemblance to a young Mark Hamill) was hiding in plain sight in some of the most recognizable properties of the big and small screen.

So, where might one have seen their beloved Bucky before he was cast in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger without even realizing it? You may be shocked to know that you could have become properly acquainted with Sebastian Stan in the following nine examples of his earlier work, starting with a movie from several years before his MCU beginning.

The Architect (Martin Waters)

In the sole directorial feature by Preacher and Project Blue Book producer Matt Tauber, which he adapted in 2006 from David Greig's play, Anthony LaPaglia plays the title role of The Architect, and comes to odds with a community organizer (Viola Davis) who's requesting to demolish a building he designed years earlier. Meanwhile, as he suffers conflict with his wife (Isabella Rosselini), his teenage daughter (Hayden Penetierre) feels compelled to explore her sexuality, and his college dropout son (Sebastian Stan) begins to explore his with a young man (Greek star Paul James) he meets while visiting his father's building.

Hayden Panetierre: Wake Up Call (Boyfriend)

Just two years after playing her older brother in The Architect, Sebastian Stan went in an entirely different direction and played Hayden Panetierre’s shady boyfriend. The role was part of a music video for "Wake Up Call," the then 19-year-old Heroes star and singer's first single not associated with one of her own acting roles.

Rachel Getting Married (Walter)

In 2008, the same year he appeared as Hayden Panettiere's supposedly commitment-phobic boyfriend, Sebastian Stan played someone with an entirely different sort of issue with commitment. In his brief appearance as Walter at the beginning of director Jonathan Demme's drama Rachel Getting Married, he is seated on a park bench begging his rehab counselor, Rosa (Roslyn Ruff) for his Zippo lighter right before struggling addict Kym (Anne Hathaway) leaves to attend her sister's wedding.

The Covenant (Chase Collins)

Now, if Walter were anyone like Sebastian Stan's character in The Covenant, he could have just made a Zippo lighter appear out of thin air. In the 2006 supernatural teen thriller, he plays the extremely powerful (but also extremely corrupt) Chase Collins, who turns out to be the banished fifth member of the Sons of Ipswitch - four young men who, before the villain enters the story, indulge in using their magical abilities to live like kings.

Kings (Jack Benjamin)

Speaking of kings, that is also the title of the short-lived NBC drama inspired by the Biblical story of David on which Sebastian Stan landed his first starring role. He plays Prince Jonathan "Jack" Benjamin, the secretly homosexual son of Ian McShane's character, King Silas Benjamin, who rules the fictional country of Gilboa in an alternate, modern-day monarchy.

Gossip Girl (Carter Baizen)

Both prior to and following his starring role on Kings, Sebastian Stan landed his first recurring gig on a TV series with Gossip Girl - the long-running, still popular series following the scandalous private lives of a group of young New York socialites. Stan appeared in a total of 11 episodes of the first three seasons as Carter Baizen, who shared a romance with Blake Lively's Serena Van Der Woodson after a fling with Blair Waldorf, which would actually lead to a relationship between the actor and Leighton Meester in real life.

Hot Tub Time Machine (Blaine)

In a purely ironic sense, the most notable precursor to Sebastian Stan's eventual casting as Soviet-brainwashed assassin The Winter Soldier might actually come from 2010's brilliant, nostalgia-filled sci-fi comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, in which he plays Blaine. Other than being, essentially, the ultimate '80s movie douchebag, he is also the victim of reversed Soviet brainwashing, blindly suspecting the four out-of-time central characters to be Cold War spies after finding their can of Chernobly, an illegal Russian energy drink that is actually a key ingredient for their return to the present.

Once Upon A Time (Jefferson/The Mad Hatter)

On the other hand, Sebastian's Stan's recurring role on Once Upon Time, the ABC drama that inventively combined bedtime story imagination with real-life drama, in 2012-2013 also has a few interesting similarities to Bucky Barnes. His widowed, single father character Jefferson is really Alice in Wonderland's The Mad Hatter (one of the many other fairy tale characters unwittingly thrust into our own reality in a town called Storybrooke), who was previously beheaded by the Red Queen in his past life - kind of like the arm amputation his MCU character would later suffer.

Black Swan (Andrew)

Technically, Once Upon a Time was not Sebastian Stan's first encounter with a fairy tale creature with a warped sense of reality. He briefly appears in Black Swan, director Darren Aranofsky's trippy psychological thriller from 2010. He plays a young man attempting to impress ballerina Nina Sayers (Natalia Portman in an Academy Award-winning role), while she is not only struggling with her role in Swan Lake affecting her sanity, but a drink laced with ecstasy awakening her sexual desires on the dance club floor.

You know, based on some of my character comparisons above, it seems that many of Sebastian Stan's earlier roles have a strange connection to Bucky Barnes. Both he and Once Upon a Time's Jefferson have experienced losing a major body part, Blaine from Hot Tub Time Machine is committed to defying Russian control, and his Rachel Getting Married character struggles to overcome a destructive behavior. It is really is no wonder he eventually got the call from Marvel.

Barb and Star experience more adventure than they expected (or wanted) when they become involved in a plan to kill everyone in Vista Del Mar.

In Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Jamie Dornan plays Edgar, a handsome man with whom the women have a wild night that turns into true love for Star. Edgar is also a main part of the killing everyone in Vista Del Mar plan: it’s his whole reason for being in town. Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is a goofy, fun comedy that’s perfect viewing for when you want some lighthearted content and shirtless Dornan. The film is available to rent on your favorite VOD service.

The Fall (2013-2016)

The Fall follows a family man and serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan). Gillian Anderson played Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson, the woman on a quest to find Paul and stop his killings. The Fall is a fascinating crime drama that explores the psyche of a serial killer and the woman trying to bring him down.

Many consider The Fall one of Dornan’s best works, both for his performance and the show’s dark and complex writing. The series is also one of Dornan’s few TV series roles, so it allowed him to really flesh out Paul and his twisted mind. The Fall aired for three seasons and they’re all available on Tubi and Amazon Prime.

Fifty Shades of Grey Franchise (2015, 2017, 2018)

Fifty Shades of Grey is a film based on E.L James’ best-selling novel of the same name. It follows Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), a college graduate who begins a sadomasochistic relationship with businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). The 2017 follow up film Fifty Shades Darker continues Ana and Christian’s journey of figuring out their relationship and all the complications that come with it. Fifty Shades Freed is the final installment and wraps up things for Ana and Christian.

The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy is what made Jamie Dornan a household name, so these are important films to watch if you’re a diehard fan of him or the Fifty Shades of Grey movies. These controversial films explore the world of BDSM in a way mainstream culture hasn’t before, making the Fifty Shades movies a much-debated topic. The Fifty Shades of Grey movies are all available to watch on Peacock.

Wild Mountain Thyme (2020)

Wild Mountain Thyme stars Jamie Dornan and Emily Blunt as Anthony Reilly and Rosemary Muldoon. She’s set on winning Anthony’s affections, but he’s oblivious to her. Meanwhile, Anthony’s farm is threatened when his father plans to sell it to his American cousin. The Wild Mountain Thyme cast also includes Jon Hamm and Christopher Walken.

Wild Mountain Thyme is a romantic drama set in Ireland and takes a bit of a fable quality with its whimsical nature and storylines. This film is one where you’re going to want to talk about its wild ending. Wild Mountain Thyme is currently available to rent through Video On Demand services, like Amazon and VUDU.

Once Upon A Time (2011-2018)

Once Upon a Time is an ABC series that ran from 2011 to 2018. It’s the reimagining of several fairy tales, especially those in Disney’s collection. Once Upon a Time follows Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) as she moves to Storybrooke, Maine. The son she gave up for adoption, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) informs Emma that she is the savior and must break a curse. Everyone in this town has forgotten their true identity. They were once fairytale characters like Snow White and Cinderella.

Jamie Dornan only briefly appeared in Once Upon a Time. He played Sheriff Graham, whose fairytale identity was the Huntsman. He was also Emma Swan’s first love interest on the series, and she becomes the sheriff when he’s no longer on Once Upon a Time. Disney+ has all seven seasons of Once Upon a Time available to stream.

Endings, Beginnings

Endings, Beginning stars Shailene Woodley as Daphne, a woman who just broke up with her long-term boyfriend. She also just quit her job. Daphne vows to take a break from drinking and men but finds herself in a love triangle between two friends Jack (Jamie Dornan) and Frank (Sebastian Stan). Endings, Beginnings has Daphne fall for both men for different reasons, which makes her choice quite difficult.

I think many straight women and gay men would dream of the day that they’re in a love triangle with Jamie Dornan and Sebastian Stan. Yet, Endings, Beginning is a drama that digs deeper than just a sexy love triangle. It’s a look at spiraling downward and needing to love yourself before really opening your heart to loving another person. Dornan once again is in a romantic drama, so he’s right in his genre sweet spot. Endings, Beginnings is currently available to stream on HBO Max.

Synchronic (2019)

Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan star in Synchronic, a science fiction horror movie. They play Steve and Dennis, two paramedics who work the late shift. After a series of strange deaths and cases, they find that all these cases are linked to a drug called Synchronic. Steve has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor and he finds out that because of his tumor, Synchronic could help him find Dennis’s teen daughter, who goes missing.

Synchronic is a time-traveling movie that strays away from many of the time-traveling movie formulas, giving it a fresh perspective and allows it to de-romanticize the idea of the past. Dornan isn’t the main protagonist in the way Mackie is, but he’s a critical part of the story. His bond with Mackie’s character is one of Synchronic’s main driving forces. It also gets its emotional weight because of Dennis’s missing daughter and the toll that takes on his family. Synchronic is available to rent on VOD.

New Worlds (2014)

New Worlds is a four-episode historical miniseries that stars Jamie Dornan, Joe Dempsie, Alice Englert, Freya Mavor, Pip Carter, and Holli Dempsey. Set in America and England in the 1680s, New Worlds follows England during the rule of Charles II and the struggles endured by those with a quest for liberty. It’s the sequel to the 2008 miniseries The Devil’s Whore. New Worlds takes place 20-years after The Devil’s Whore.

Jamie Dornan plays Abe Goffe, a renegade that falls for the daughter of an anti-monarchist Beth Fanshawe (Freya Mavor). If you’re a fan of historical fiction, then New Worlds may fit your desires for some 1600s drama. New Worlds is available to stream on Acorn TV.

My Dinner With Herve (2018)

My Dinner with Herve is based on the life of Hervé Villechaize, best known for his role as Tattoo on Fantasy Island. The film stars Peter Dinklage as Hervé Villechaize. The cast of My Dinner with Herve includes Jamie Dornan and Andy Garcia. Dornan plays Danny Tate, a journalist who interviews Hervé. It follows these two broken men as Hervé tells Tate more of his life story. The two bond in their self-destructive and damaged behavior.

My Dinner with Herve includes two really strong performances from Dornan and Dinklage. It’s a fascinating snapshot of one moment and how it fits into the big picture of these men’s lives. My Dinner with Herve is an HBO Original Movie, so available to stream on HBO Max.

Robin Hood (2018)

Robin Hood is the retelling of the prince of thieves story of Robin Hood. Taron Egerton plays the title character, Jamie Foxx plays Little John, Ben Mendelsohn plays the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Jamie Dornan plays Will Tillman (a new version of Will Scarlet), and Eve Hewson plays Maid Marian.

If you’ve ever thought, “they really need to do another Robin Hood movie and this time add a bunch of action, and also make sure the cast includes Egerton, Foxx, and Dornan,“ well your request is answered with this 2018 action-adventure flick. Robin Hood is available to stream for free on Peacock.

Anthropoid (2016)

Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan star in Anthropoid, a film about Operation Anthropoid. Operation Anthropoid was the code name for the World War II assassination of Nazi officer Reinhard Heydrich by Czechoslovak soldiers. Murphy and Dornan play Jozef Gabcík and Jan Kubis.

In Anthropoid, Dornan plays more of the naive character compared to Murphy’s driven and determined character. They balance each other out because it helps paint the picture of two men who are doing something massive that could change the course of the war, but ultimately to do so, they risk nearly certain death. Anthropoid is available to stream on Starz.

Cruella is one of Disney’s most highly anticipated films. Emma Stone takes on the role of Disney’s legendary evil-doer. Cruella takes place in 1970s London and follows Cruella de Vil as she tries to make it in the fashion world as a young designer, with a preference for Dalmatians skin designs. Cruella’s supporting cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, Mark Strong, Joel Fry, and Emma Thompson.

Filming wrapped on Cruella in 2019 and it had an original premiere date of December 2020, but has since been moved to a May 2021 release. If you’re like me, then you’re very disappointed about the release delay, probably because you were looking forward to Emma Stone’s spin on the fashion icon Cruella, and you enjoy a good villain origin tale. Cruella’s delay isn’t ideal, but Disney+ and other streaming services have plenty of movies and TV shows available to keep you busy while waiting for Cruella’s release.

Here are a few movies and shows to check out.

101 Dalmatians (1996, Disney+)

Before Disney basically started to make live-action adaptation films every year, they took a chance in 1996 with a live-action remake of the 1961 animated film 101 Dalmatians. Glenn Close took on the role of the infamous Cruella de Vil. The cast also includes Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardson, and Hugh Laurie. In 2000, it had a sequel called 102 Dalmatians.

For many growing up in the 1990s and early 2000s, Glenn Close is the standard for Cruella de Vil portrayals, so naturally, people will compare Emma Stone’s version to Close’s version. It’ll also be interesting to see if Stone takes any notes from Close’s campy version or creates her own unique, style and character for Cruella.

Once Upon a Time (Disney+)

Once Upon a Time is an ABC series that ran from 2011 to 2018. It follows the residents of Storybrooke, a town full of fairytale characters. Everyone in Storybrooke is originally from various fantasy lands, including the Enchanted Forest, but the whole town was put under a curse which caused them to believe they’re all just regular people. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) must break the curse, but she doesn’t quite believe she’s the savior. It’s up to her son, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore), to convince her.

The best element of Once Upon a Time is that it adds complexity to villain characters. In the series, Victoria Smurfit plays Cruella. She is one of the series' most fun and devious villains. She first entered the series in season 4. Cruella fans might enjoy Once Upon a Time for the twists on fairytales and taking them slightly away from their animated counterparts, but still paying homage to their animated roots, which I assume Cruella will do as well.

101 Dalmatians (1961, Disney+)

101 Dalmatians originated as a 1956 children’s book of the same name. Disney’s 1961 classic animation tells the story of a litter of Dalmatian puppies kidnapped by evil Cruella de Vil. She wants to use them to make fur coats. The Dalmatians' parents go on an adventure to retrieve the puppies and then end up with 84 additional children.

101 Dalmatians was a box office success for Disney and received a direct to DVD sequel in 2003. Fans of Cruella should watch the original Disney film to see how director Craig Gillespie will tie in both stories. Cruella is a prequel, so viewers will get to watch how Emma Stone’s Cruella grows into the Cruella in the 101 Dalmatians films. Knowing Disney, they’re also likely to include some Easter Eggs for fans of the other Dalmatians movies.

Cinderella (Disney+)

Ella (Lily James) must deal with two wicked stepsisters and a wicked stepmother when her father dies. One night, she gets the chance to go to the ball with the help of a fairy godmother. She impresses the prince who goes on a quest to find her. Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter, and Cate Blanchett also star in Cinderella.

In my opinion, this has been one of the best Disney live-action adaptation movies of recent years. It follows the traditional Cinderella story but adds its own personality where it doesn’t feel like the exact same movie as the animated one. Cruella fans might enjoy watching this one to see what Disney is capable of when they execute a good live-action remake. Cruella and Cinderella are also likely both stories about young women trying to find their place in the world, one just picks the path of puppy murder.

The Favourite (Max Go)

The Favourite is a period piece about Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) and the two cousins trying to win her affection, Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough (Rachel Weisz), and Abigail Masham (Emma Stone). The Favourite won Olivia Colman a 2019 Academy Award for Best Actress.

Emma Stone gives one of her best performances ever as Abigail. Stone plays a more villainous character than her normal roles, and she makes you despise Abigail, but also admire her cleverness. The Favourite is probably the closest Stone fans may get to a glimpse of how her version of Cruella may play out. Like Abigail, I expect Cruella to be a ruthless opportunist who is also the victim of her situation and ambitions.

Maleficent (Disney+)

This Disney original film tells the story of Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), the infamous villain of Sleeping Beauty. The film gives a more layered look at this character and explains how her villainy began. It’s supposed to make viewers have some sympathy for Maleficent and root for her. It also stars Elle Fanning and Sam Riley. In 2019, Disney made a sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Of the Disney live-animated features, Maleficent is probably the most similar to Cruella in concept. They’re both films that are reimaginings that show a different perspective of these once pure villainous characters. We’re sure Cruella will still be evil, I mean she wants to kill puppies, can’t get more evil than that, but the audience will get added depth and intricacies to Cruella that’s not there in the animated version.

Descendants (Disney+)

In 2015, Disney launched its Descendants series on The Disney Channel. The first movie follows a group of children who are offsprings of Disney villains, like Maleficent (Kristin Chenoweth)’s daughter Mal (Dove Cameron), Cruella de Vil (Wendy Raquel Robinson)’s son Carlos (Cameron Boyce), Jafar (Maz Jobrani)’s son Jay (Booboo Stewart), and the Evil Queen (Kathy Najimy)’s daughter Evie (Sofia Carson). The children are released from their prison world and allowed to join the good fairytale citizens. The villain children don’t have an easy time adapting at first, but they start to find their place in this new world.

Disney currently has three movies in the Descendants franchise. Cruella fans may enjoy this one because it’s another Disney film that reexamines the ideas of Disney villains and gives them more of a 3D depiction, instead of allowing them to be one-note, as portrayed in many of the animated films.

I, Tonya (Hulu)

I, Tonya is a black comedy about the events of the 1994 Olympics and the attack on Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver). It’s about Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie) and her quest for Olympics gold. For many years, Tonya Harding has been painted as the villain of this scandal, but I, Tonya takes a more sympathetic approach to the story and the real-life figure. It portrays Tonya as much as a victim as Nancy Kerrigan. Tonya is shown suffering years of abuse from her mother LaVona (Allison Janney) and husband Jeff (Sebastian Stan).

We’ll never know the whole truth about what happened and Tonya’s involvement, but the film really tries to clear Tonya’s name and tries to de-villainize her. Cruella will be about a fictional villain, but it will probably take a similar approach of giving the character more of a sympathetic portrayal, maybe even showing her as a victim of society, circumstances, or one thing or another,.

Into The Woods (Disney+)

This musical, based on the Stephen Sondheim Broadway show of the same name, follows various fairytale characters as they deal with different life issues and battles giants, wolves, and witches. Into the Woods features an ensemble cast that includes Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Chris Pine, and Anna Kendrick.

Into the Woods is a more adult retelling of beloved fairytales like Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. One of the most interesting parts of the original musical and the movie is how it makes The Witch (Meryl Streep) so much deeper and one of the most fascinating characters. She’s evil but also grown deeply attached to her daughter Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), and like any good overprotective parent wants to shield her from the cruel world. Cruella fans might enjoy Into the Woods for its imaginative take on typical fairytale stories, both showing the villains and heroes as people with character flaws, but also doing what they feel is right.

Project Runway (Hulu)

Project Runway is a reality series about designers, usually undiscovered, competing for a chance to show at New York Fashion Week, a feature in a global fashion magazine, and a cash prize to start their own collection. Each week, contestants have a themed challenge and must design outfits based on that theme. The series has been on air since 2004.

Cruella will deal with the fashion industry and Ms. de Vil’s desire to make it during the 1970s, so Project Runway could be a good series to binge if the fashion element of the movie appeals to you. It’s also a good show to see how ambition and fashion could lead to some shady reality TV behavior. Hulu currently has season 8 to 16 available to stream.

I also recommend The Devil Wears Prada, which unfortunately isn’t available to stream but is available to rent or buy. I think Cruella may take a lot of inspiration from that film. Cruella is set for a May 28, 2021 release. This may feel like a long time, so make sure to binge-watch as many of these movies and shows as possible to speed up the wait.

August was something of a slow month for Disney+. Although, when the schedule was first announced about one month ago, we had no idea it was set to be the calm before the storm. Disney+ in September is set to be a huge month for Disney+ as it will mark the service's first "Premium VOD" release, and at this point, nobody has any real idea how that's going to go. Even if you're not looking to pick up Mulan, however, there will still be plenty of great content, both new and classic, coming to Disney+.

After several months of delays where Disney was hoping to find a release date for Mulan in theaters where the movie would at least have half of a chance of making a reasonable box office happen, it seems that Disney has finally given in, at least when it comes to the United States. While some movie theaters in some parts of the country might be open by early September, that won't be the case in other portions of the nation, and so Disney made the call to release Mulan in theaters in countries where that was possible, but in places where theaters are still closed but Disney+ is available, Mulan will be available for a $29.99 (prices vary by country) price tag.

On the plus side, this price will give you permanent access to Mulan on Disney+ as long as your subscription is current. But this particular idea hasn't been tried before, so it's unclear just how successful it will all be. Of course, this is also the biggest title yet to go the VOD route, so there's every reason to expect demand to be quite high.

Beyond Mulan, the first part of September will also include some interesting new content, in the for form of 10 episodes of Earth to Ned a new original series from The Jim Henson Company that sees an alien hosting a late-night style talk show. We'll also get the two Mighty Ducks sequel films from Disney, as well as The Wolverine. and the Drew Barrymore comedy Never Been Kissed thanks to the Fox merger. We'll also see the end of the seasons for both Pixar in Real Life and Muppets Now.

Also, while the official Disney+ schedule doesn't list it, the Disney+ app says that the live-action version of Disney's Cinderella will hit the service September 1, which is actually one of two film versions of the story set to hit Disney+ that month.

Certainly, there's nothing quite as big as Mulan coming in the second half of September but there are some notable highlights in the form of some popular library titles. When it comes to library titles, we'll see the second live-action Cinderella movie of the month, and let's be honest, the best one, Ever After: A Cinderella Story, starring Drew Barrymore. We'll also see the entire run of the ABC series Once Upon a Time which reimagines fairy tale characters in the modern world.

The initial list of brand new additions to Disney+ was missing a few interesting items that were revealed at the beginning of September. A pair of Fox productions will be joining DIsney+ at the end of the month, including the adaptation of the YA novel The Fault in Our Stars and the Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures. We'll also see the Disney+ debut of Morning Light, a 2008 documentary film about a crew of young people competing in the Transpac Yacht Race. The film has a specific Disney connection as it was a passion project Roy E. Disney, the nephew of Walt, who was a sailing enthusiast who competed in the Transpac race himself.

For new content we have a pair of brand new series, Becoming is the LeBron James produced documentary series chronicling real stories of successful people returning to the places where they got their start. Magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom will combine Disney theme park magic with the wildlife production of National Geographic for a new series spotlighting Disney's wild animal theme park, the animals that live there, and the people who care for them. We'll also the new Disney+ original movie Society of Second Born Royals.

Once Upon a Time was a big hit for ABC, and a large part of that was the show's use of popular fairy tales which had already been adapted by Disney. The show lasted for seven seasons, ending in 2018, and in a move that will probably surprise very few people, some of the creatives behind Once Upon a Time are now working on another series that will mine the same territory for an anthology that will take Disney fairy tales even further.

ABC has put romantic anthology series Epic in development, which comes from Once Upon a Time writer Brigette Hales, and her former mentors there, showrunners / creators / executive producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. According to Deadline, Epic will take place in a Disney-esq enchanted forest and focus on a new cast of magical creatures, princesses, villains, princes and heroes. While the show is said to pay homage to the popular stories we already know and love, we'll see brand new characters, created just for the show, try to explore "love in all its forms."

Fans of Once Upon a Time will know that those who worked on that long-running drama understand how to mix the fairy tales we're all so familiar with and completely new characters and ideas. While the show did feature many well-loved characters such as Cinderella, Snow White, Rumplestiltskin, Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Cruella De Vil and Ursula, they all mingled with several new ones who were created just for the show.

Of course, Once Upon a Time also featured a love story or two, but the focus of the series was on breaking the curse that sent all of the storybook characters to the real world, robbed them of their memories of their true lives and trapped them in a town where they'd never age. So, you know, there was not a lot of time there to devote to the romances that sprung up, especially if two characters were fated to be together based on how their stories had been told for centuries.

So, when you really think about it, Epic will be good for fans of Once Upon a Time for several reasons. Not only will the people who helped bring one of their favorites shows to the small screen be in charge, but it will also deal with a lot of similar themes as that show. Because Epic is planning to use the framework of Disney fairy tales to bring new characters to life, though, the show can (maybe more easily) go in some very different directions from what those of us who love the stories would be expecting. It's nice to get some surprises when you watch a show, isn't it?

Epic will be written by Hales, who created the show with Kitsis and Horowitz, and all three will executive produce, while the latter two will also supervise and help guide the series through development at ABC. This is the very beginning for Epic, so we don't know yet if it will go to series, when it might air or how many episodes we might expect to see.

Once Upon a Time’s Gabe Khouth has died at the age of 46. The actor’s friend, Beyond’s Peter Kelamis, made the sad announcement on Twitter late yesterday. Kelamis shared that Khouth was riding his motorcycle when he suffered a cardiac arrest, and “died as a result.” Here is Kelamis’ tweet sharing the news:

Gabe Khouth starred in the fairytale drama Once Upon a Time as one of Snow White’s Seven Dwarves. Khouth played Sneezy, who, in Storybrooke, existed as Tom Clark or Mr. Clark. Khouth was an original cast member, having appeared on the series starting with its first episode in 2012. He also appeared in the show’s series finale, which aired last year in 2018.

Once Upon a Time ran for seven seasons on ABC before coming to an end. Joining Peter Kelamis in mourning Gabe Khouth on social media has been Once Upon a Time’s co-creator Adam Horowitz. Earlier, Horowitz paid tribute to his friend with the following tweet:

The love and appreciation that Khouth's former cast members had for him is very apparent, as the words of remembrance kept coming. Joining Once Upon a Time’s co-creator in sharing a tribute to Gabe Khouth on social media has been Colin O’Donoghue. He played Captain Hook / Killian Jones on the series. O’Donoghue posted the following on Twitter:

It's pretty clear that, even though Khouth had a relatively small role on Once Upon a Time, he made a great impact on the lives of everyone he worked with. On Instagram, another of his co-stars shared a tribute to the late actor. Lana Parrilla, who played Regina / The Evil Queen and starred on the series until the very end, posted the following:

Also taking to social media to express her sadness has been Once Upon a Time actress Emilie de Ravin. The Lost alum played Beauty and the Beast’s Belle / Lacey. On Instagram, de Ravin paid tribute to the type of man Khouth was with this post:

On Twitter, Rebecca Mader joined her former Once Upon a Time co-stars in paying their respects. Mader, who starred as Zelena, aka the Wicked Witch of the West / Kelly West, posted:

Meanwhile, Sean Maguire, who played Robin Hood on Once Upon a Time, shared his devastation in the wake of Gabe Khouth’s passing. The actor is also planning to set up a Go Fund Me campaign for Khouth’s children. Maguire wrote:

Along with Once Upon a Time, Gabe Khouth’s other credits include an episode of The CW’s one-season drama Life Sentence, which starred Lucy Hale. Khouth played Mr. Stoller. He also had a single-episode appearance on the second season of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events adaptation as Lou.

The Canadian native got his start in acting nearly thirty years ago in 1989 with a guest role on the TV series Booker. He followed that up with an episode of the ensemble cop drama, 21 Jump Street in 1990. Gabe Khouth worked steadily from that point on with those 2018 credits mentioned above being some of the latest listed.

Anyone else miss the heck out of Once Upon a Time? Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas met making the ABC fairy tale series, falling in love on and off screen as Snow White and Prince Charming. After seven seasons, Once ended in 2018. Now Dallas stars as Ben Stone on the NBC mystery series Manifest. Goodwin has been busy with several projects -- from episodes of The Twilight Zone and Heartstrings to her new role on CBS All Access' Why Women Kill. But she sounded very enthusiastic when asked if there's a chance she'd appear alongside her husband on Manifest:

Yes! I'm all about a Snowing reunion, even if it's just via Manifest's ill-fated Flight 828. That's not the only way Manifest Season 2 could find a role for Ginnifer Goodwin. TVLine noted that Ginny will be free this fall, once she's finished shooting CBS All Access’ Why Women Kill.

Manifest Season 1 had 16 episodes, and I can imagine Season 2 finding room to give her more than a cameo or a guest appearance. She could maybe even have a recurring role? That's me being selfish as a fan of the Big Love actress, while also wanting to see both Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas on screen together again.

Back in February 2019, before NBC officially renewed Manifest for Season 2, Josh Dallas told Page Six "it's possible" Ginnifer Goodwin could guest star in the future.

There was nothing planned at the time, but now that we know Manifest Season 2 is in the works, and Ginnifer Goodwin would love to make an appearance, why not make it happen?

Back in January, while promoting Manifest on Today, Josh Dallas did a lot of gushing about his former co-star wife, also mother to their two children:

After years portraying Emma Swan on ABC's Once Upon A Time, actress Jennifer Morrison has been free of the drama and available to take the lead for new TV projects. Now, it looks like she's doing just that, as Morrison has signed on for the CBS pilot Under The Bridge, which has the potential to be the network's hot new fall drama. Scrub up and strap in, as Morrison is heading for a doctor drama that sounds far removed from a fairy tale.

Morrison will play Caitlin Lancaster, a cardiothoracic surgeon who gets pulled from her self-appointed work break when her husband Michael gets voted off the medical practice board that the couple founded together. Under The Bridge will focus on Caitlin's drive to save her business and mend her relationship with her husband, as well as the friends that also work at the practice, following this dreadful chain of events.

Will Caitlin be forced to choose between happiness for her marriage or for the business, or is this a situation where she can have both? Caitlin is described as being inoffensively ambitious, according to TVLine, but it sounds like she might need to get her claws sharpened.

Supergirl actor David Ajalaw was previously cast in the pilot as the character Dan, who eyes for Caitlin back in the day. Dan got upset when she ended up marrying his best friend instead, and is now apparently getting some revenge. He votes alongside the board to remove Michael from the practice, which is taken as a personal sleight. Yeesh, it sounds like this place would be dramatic to work for.

As mentioned previously, Jennifer Morrison is attached as the lead, but the character's husband Michael has yet to be cast. This has the potential to be the first major television series for Morrison after Once Upon A Time provided CBS gives it the green light, although not her first major onscreen role. Morrison has appeared in the film world since the ABC series' ending.

Under The Bridge is written by Rina Mimoun, who has also written for dramas like Everwood, Dawson's Creek, and Mistresses. It's just the latest in a slew of recently announced CBS pilots competing to earn series orders. Grey's Anatomy vet Sarah Drew has a new project, Mike Colter's involved in a supernatural religious drama, and former NCIS star Pauley Perrette just joined a comedy pilot. Each one sounds like it could be a winner, so it will be interesting to see which, if any, gets rejected.

Until we know more, Under The Bridge is just a pilot in development for CBS, but CinemaBlend will keep an eye out to see if that changes. Snow White is back -- with a vengeance! Once Upon a Time star Ginnifer Goodwin has joined Lucy Liu in the cast of Why Women Kill, which will be premiering on the CBS All Access streaming service. She'll play one of the leads in the drama/comedy from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

Why Women Kill will follow three women in three different decades -- a housewife in the 1960s (that's Ginnifer Goodwin's character), a socialite in the 1980s (to be played by Lucy Liu), and a lawyer in 2018 (star not revealed yet). All of the women will be dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will explore how the roles of women may have changed over time, but their reactions to betrayal have not.

Uh oh. This dark look into a marriage sounds very different from the fairy tale love story of Ginnifer Goodwin and former Once Upon a Time co-star Josh Dallas. They met as Snow White and Prince Charming on that ABC series, fell in love on screen and off, and now have two kids together. He's busy keeping us speculating on NBC's Manifest, and she's been busy with several projects.

In addition to this new lead role, Ginnifer Goodwin will be in Netflix’s Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, and the Big Love alum will also appear in an episode of Jordan Peele's The Twilight Zone. Plus, it's possible she'll be bringing her Judy Hopps back for another Zootopia movie (or two?).

There's nothing more frustrating as a TV viewer than getting invested in a show, only for it to be cancelled. In 2018, several cancelled shows were saved by other platforms -- like Lucifer, The Expanse, Designated Survivor, Last Man Standing, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Some other shows ended their runs naturally, like The Americans. And some cancelled shows may still have hope of a new home. But others are more dead than a staked vampire. Here's a look at 10 cancelled shows we'll miss ... including some we still hope to see again someday.

Daredevil/Iron Fist/Luke Cage

When Iron Fist was cancelled in October, fans of the Marvel/Netflix show were shocked. When Luke Cage was cancelled just one week later, they were even more shocked -- and angry. And when Daredevil was recently cancelled, fans were ready to riot. Daredevil's cancellation was especially baffling, since data showed that it was one of the top five most popular shows on Netflix before it was axed. The showrunner had just pitched his plan for Season 4 to Netflix, so it's not like the cast and crew were in on the strategy. And even the mass assumption that this was a move by Disney to move the Marvel characters to the upcoming Disney+ streaming service may not completely pan out.

Turns out, Netflix and Marvel made some kind of deal for the four original shows -- the three cancelled ones, plus Jessica Jones, who will probably fall on the 2019 cancelled list. The deal reportedly stipulates that characters from the shows can't appear in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation. That would keep Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist out of the realm of Disney+ streaming use until 2020. Disney+ doesn't get going until the end of 2019, so it's still possible everyone will be back in 2020. But for now, it's everyone's loss.

Timeless

Timeless is actually one of the lucky ones. It was cancelled once, and the fan outcry was so strong, NBC brought it back for a second season. Then NBC cancelled it again after Season 2. Fans brought back the familiar cry, but NBC was only willing to cave enough to give fans a two-part finale, which will air December 20. Some fans are still pushing for Season 3. Star Matt Lanter revealed that the series finale doesn't end on the core Time Team, it's more open-ended. That has already given fans hope that maybe the show will return in some way, on some network, even if it isn't NBC.

The problem with Timeless has never been a lack of passion from fans, there just aren't enough of those fans in total. With under three million viewers, and ratings in the .0.6 zone in the advertiser-loving 18-49 demographic, Timeless has become more a labor of love than a sustainable business for a primetime network show. Timeless' two-hour series finale premieres Thursday, December 20 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. From there? We'll see.

American Vandal

It is truly a crime to lose this show. American Vandal initially seemed like a bad joke -- a mockuseries following teenagers trying to figure out who drew dicks on high school teachers' cars? Really? But not only was Season 1 hilarious, it had unexpected depth. And it was gripping! It was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2017. When Season 2 came around in 2018, with the Serial/Making A Murderer parody following a new "case," fans were thrilled. Season 2 more than lived up to the high standard of Season 1. And then? Nothing.

Not only were fans shocked by Netflix's cancellation, the American Vandal team was surprised and disappointed as well. The concept for Season 3 was already in development when the show was dropped. Since Netflix doesn't usually release numbers, it's hard to say why they may have axed the show. Too few viewers, presumably, since the show didn't look expensive to produce. The producers said they planned to shop American Vandal to other outlets, so we'll have to see where that goes from here.

Shadowhunters

Shadowhunters is an interesting case in that it was cancelled by Freeform in June 2018, but half of the final season won't air until early 2019. The series was cancelled after Season 3, which was split in two -- the first half premiering in March 2018, with the second half starting on February 25, 2019. In the meantime, Shadowhunters fans have been through all the stages of grief -- denial, anger, bargaining, and depression. They haven't quite reached acceptance yet. The #SaveShadowhunters campaign has been pushing for a fourth season, and reportedly talks have been held. Freeform recently upset fans by mocking the Twitter campaign, suggesting the show won't come back no matter how much they tweet.

If Shadowhunters returns after Season 3, it probably won't be on Freeform. There are complicated financials in play. When Shadowhunters was initially cancelled, Freeform's head of programming said they went back and forth with their co-production partner but they couldn't make the economics work. They added that they were very happy with the show creatively. If another outlet in a different financial situation were to step in, they'd have many adoring and grateful fans.

The Last Man On Earth

Oh, farts. I love the hell out of this show, and I miss it already, but Will Forte was honestly lucky to get four seasons. It probably helped that every season of The Last Man on Earth ended on a massive cliffhanger, leading fans to howl at Fox to renew the show for another season. It worked so many times! Until it didn't. The comedy steadily lost viewers across the four seasons. It started with close to six million viewers and a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, and ended under two million with a 0.7 rating.

Will Forte revealed on the Good Ones podcast (via Deadline) that he had plans for Season 5, explaining more about the people our core group just met at the end of Season 4. Per usual, one or two famous guest stars were meant to be revealed among the new bunker residents. He said Season 5 would've been the final season, but he had no set plan for the series ending.

Sense8

Netflix didn't quite go full Timeless with Sense8, but it did take the rare step of adding a wrap-up special after fan outcry. The sci-fi drama aired two seasons, with Season 2 ending on a cliffhanger. And then Netflix cancelled it. There was such a fury, Netflix decided to create and release a two-hour series finale, which aired in June 2018. Some fans still want a Season 3, but at least the show was given a chance to provide fans closure. Not every series gets that chance. The fans who watched Sense8 loved it, and the show won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series.

Once again, the decision seemed to come down to economics. According to Quartz, Sense8 cost an estimated $9 million an episode, or $108 million for a 12-episode season, making it one of the most expensive original shows on Netflix. Since Netflix isn't covered by the Nielsen ratings, it's hard to know exactly how many viewers they had. But that's A LOT of money to spend on a TV show, so as upset as fans were, they should be glad they got two seasons and a wrap-up finale.

The Exorcist

I was a loyal member of The Exorcist Congregation, and worked hard to get it a second season. Thankfully, that happened -- with John Cho joining The Exorcist Season 2 cast in a fantastic role that would've gotten awards attention if it didn't air on a horror network TV show.

Sadly, the passionate Exorcist fans couldn't get the show a Season 3, to see what was next for Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) and Father Marcus (Ben Daniels). Viewership started under three million and ended under two million. It didn't help that the show aired Friday nights, competing against Hawaii Five-0 and Dateline. Fox officially cancelled The Exorcist in May 2018. This wonderful show will always be a woefully overlooked gem.

The Crossing

This sci-fi show only got to air one season. There were only 11 episodes. Fans barely had time to get hooked on the Steve Zahn drama before it was yanked. There wasn't a huge outcry over the end of this show, but it's still a frustrating sign for the future of the slow-burn mystery. This is exactly why fans get gun-shy about investing in long-form storytelling. Not many viewers have patience for a drawn-out mystery these days, and the ones that do have patience are often punished with a quick cancellation.

The first episode of The Crossing started with 5.4 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demo; the show ended with 2.10 million viewers and a 0.3 rating. So more than half the viewers left before the end, for various reasons. I can't say I was gripped to the TV, but cancelling the show after one season gave me flashbacks to The Nine, when I was invested and ABC dropped it after one season.

Everything Sucks!

Everything Sucks! is exactly how fans felt after Netflix cancelled the show after just one season. It still hurts fans every time Netflix renews or announces another show. They often respond by bringing up Everything Sucks and asking for it to come back for Season 2. The show only streamed 10 half-hour episodes following teens in Boring, Oregon in 1996. The show dealt with some serious issues, and really resonated with a lot of young fans.

According to a long Vulture report breaking down Netflix's decision-making on various shows, the choice to cancel Sucks came down to viewership. It "only" cost $1.5 million an episode to produce the show, but the audience just wasn't there. Also, a smaller-than-average number of viewers actually completed episodes after starting them. Sucks for the true Sucks fans, but there just weren't enough loyal viewers. Netflix pays close attention to things like cutting out halfway through an episode or watching a few episodes but not the whole season. Keep that in mind.

Once Upon a Time

Unlike many cancelled shows, Once Upon a Time actually got to plan some closure. This is a strange case in that ABC gave Once seven seasons, but many fans think it should've ended after six. The core characters from the beginning wrapped up most of their storylines in the Season 6 finale. It was kind of perfect. But the show decided to continue, returning with a soft reboot in Season 7. Not enough fans embraced the new format, led by an older Henry Mills, so ABC pulled the plug.

Once Upon a Time started with nearly 12 million viewers and a 4.1 rating in the 18-49 demo. That's a huge hit by any measure. The show slowly lost viewers over time, but Seasons 2-4 stayed in the 9 million range with an average rating of about 3.3. Things dropped a bit from there, and Season 7 ended in May 2018 after an average viewership of 3.4 million with a 0.9 rating. I can't say Once ended before its time, but that doesn't mean I won't miss it. I loved those characters, especially Emma Swan, who I would argue to be one of the most fully developed heroes on TV.

Those TV shows may be gone (for now), but here's what is continuing into 2019 -- and potentially beyond.

Fall TV premiere season is upon us, and plenty of new and returning shows will hit the airwaves in the not-too-distant future. There will, however, be some significant holes in the primetime lineup compared to what it looked like this time last year, as a number of key shows got the axe before the end of the 2017-2018 season. While some -- ranging from Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Lucifer to Designated Survivor -- were rescued by other outlets in the wake of their cancellations/series finale, not all were so lucky. Read on for a rundown of some of the most notable shows that are definitely not coming back to TV this fall!

Kevin Can Wait, CBS

When Kevin James' latest sitcom hit the airwaves back in fall 2016, it scored impressive ratings. Starring a comic actor who had anchored a long-running sitcom in the past, featuring big guest stars, and settling into an enjoyable if not exactly revolutionary format, Kevin Can Wait seemed destined for a long run on CBS. Everything changed when news broke at the end of Season 1 that Erinn Hayes' character was being killed off and Kevin James' King of Queen costar Leah Remini would step in as leading lady. Fans did not react well to the news that Donna was going to be unceremoniously killed off-screen, the numbers dropped, and CBS cancelled the show. Kevin should probably stop waiting.

Shades Of Blue, NBC

Shades of Blue brought and kept Jennifer Lopez to the small screen as star as a cop drama. While she also had TV appearances on shows like World of Dance, Shades of Blue showcased her as an actress rather than a TV personality. Co-starring Ray Liotta, it delivered some primetime intensity. The show was cancelled at NBC before the third season actually premiered, so fans who kept up with news could prepare themselves for the upcoming series finale. For her part, Jennifer Lopez has stated that she believes the show was right to end after three season. Ray Liotta, on the other hand, has said that he'd be willing to do another season even without Lopez. Only time will tell if he gets his wish. For now, Shades of Blue is done.

Taken, NBC

Taken hit the airwaves back in midseason 2017 as a TV origin story for Liam Neeson's legendary Bryan Mills of the Taken film franchise. The show starred Clive Standen as a young Bryan, and it premiered to solid numbers. The first season ended on a compelling twist, and Taken went through some major behind-the-scenes overhauls ahead of the second season that meant a very different status quo. Unfortunately, Season 2 didn't take off, and it was pulled from its Friday night time slot in April 2018, with its final episodes to air on Saturdays starting in May. The move to Saturday was basically the death knell for Bryan Mills' origin story, and it was cancelled less than a month after the announcement.

Once Upon A Time, ABC

ABC's fairytale series charmed many viewers into becoming diehard fans of characters like Emma, Henry, Snow, and Charming over the first six seasons. The show largely rebooted itself for Season 7, writing out many of the main characters and recasting (as required by a time jump) another. Throw in the show's move to a rough Friday night time slot, and the fix was more or less end. ABC's decision to axe the show didn't come as a shock, and it at least came early enough that the showrunners were able to craft a finale that wrapped up the loose ends. Not a whole lot of people tuned into the finale, but it closed the series without ending on some kind of crazy cliffhanger.

Scorpion, CBS

The cancellation of Scorpion is one that took many fans by surprise. Although it was far from the Eye Network's mostly highly-rated series, the action drama was largely consistent in its fourth and ultimately final season. It also fell just shy of the 100-episode milestone that can guarantee a show lives on in syndication, and some might have expected Scorpion to get at least a shortened Season 5 to hit 100 episodes. The good news is that the finale at least didn't end on a killer cliffhanger. That said, it did shake things up for the potential fifth season. Members of the cast shared their reactions in the aftermath of the cancellation.

The Librarians, TNT

The Librarians put together a fun cast (including ER alum Noah Wyle) for a wild premise that took the characters through mysteries, supernatural forces, and all manner of unpredictable twists that combined humor with drama. Bad news came for the fandom only a month after the Season 4 finale when TNT officially cancelled the series, and executive producer Dean Devlin's efforts to shop The Librarians to another outlet were apparently fruitless. The Librarians is checked out, likely for good unless the franchise goes back to producing the TV movies that first introduced the Librarians universe.

Shooter, USA

Shooter brought Ryan Phillippe to TV for his first starring role in an ongoing series, and the USA drama faced setbacks from almost the very beginning. The premiere was pushed back after a tragic shooting, and although it debuted and scored high enough ratings for a renewal, Season 2 had to be cut short after Phillippe suffered a serious leg injury. While Shooter did score a third season, it was cancelled back in August, and the search for a new home on another platform has evidently not produced the desired result. The good news is that the Season 3 finale didn't end on an agonizing cliffhanger, so at least viewers won't be haunted by scores of unanswered questions about Shooter.

New Girl, Fox

New Girl is a series that hung on through a number of major changes, ranging from switches in the cast to time jumps to scheduling shenanigans to accommodate leading lady Zooey Deschanel's pregnancy. The show actually seemed headed for cancellation after the end of its sixth season, and the cast put some effort into getting the show renewed for the seventh and final season. Season 7 jumped ahead in time, with Schmidt and Cece's daughter born and already adorable, Winston with a baby on the way, and Jess and Nick getting closer and closer to tying the knot. The series finale back in May tied off a bunch of loose ends and gave Winston time for one final prank, so there probably aren't too many viewers in the depths of despair that New Girl isn't coming back.

Code Black, CBS

There's no shortage of medical dramas on the small screen, and Code Black on CBS simply wasn't cutting it for the Eye Network following its third and what proved to be final season. The cancellation actually came while Season 3 was still ongoing, so at least fans didn't get the bad news immediately after the final episode aired. Despite boasting a cast including Rob Lowe and Marcia Gay Harden and pulling in ratings that might have flown on a less prominent network, it got the axe with no sign of a second life elsewhere. Fans could take a bit of solace in the fact that series creator Michael Seitzman revealed what Season 4 would have been about if CBS had renewed Code Black, so that's something!

Quantico, ABC

Despite getting off to a very strong start on ABC back in 2015, the drama thriller seemed to be running on fumes before the third and final season premiered. Season 2 ended in a way that set the stage for very new status quo, and for Quantico, big changes didn't always mean good changes. The show also lost its original showrunner and a couple of stars ahead of Season 3. Despite Priyanka Chopra continuing to turn in engaging performances as Alex Parrish, Quantico got the cancellation order as part of ABC's cancellation bloodbath in the spring, although that wasn't the last time Quantico made headlines. Maybe Chopra can be Batgirl now!

Nashville, CMT

Nashville finally sang its final note on the small screen this year, marking the end of a wild ride that saw it debut on ABC, get cancelled by ABC, and then get picked up by CMT. The show was shaken up in a big way back in Season 5 when a major character was killed off, although fans were treated to a return in the series finale. The show lasted one more full season before its final credits rolled, and the cast said goodbye to the series in some truly touching ways. Given that Nashville would have been done back in 2016 if not for CMT stepping in with the save, fans would have lost the series long ago.

Roseanne, ABC

In the weeks following its premiere, the Roseanne revival seemed destined to run on ABC for as long as Roseanne Barr and the cast were willing to stick around. The ratings were huge and plenty of people were singing the show's praises. The buzz took a very sudden turn for the worse after Barr posted some controversial comments on Twitter, and although she went on to claim that she only posted them because of Ambien, ABC axed her show and -- as we know now -- killed off her character. The rest of the cast will be back on the airwaves this fall, however, thanks to a spinoff (not involving Barr at all) called The Conners.

The Americans, FX

FX's period spy thriller followed a pair of Soviet KGB operatives living in the United States, raising their children, donning wig after wig after wig for their disguises, and trying to keep their true intentions hidden from their FBI agent neighbor. The end of The Americans was actually announced back in 2016, when it was also announced that it had been renewed for two more seasons. The set end meant that the show could bring most of the existing plots to a satisfying end, although the finale did end on a note that probably could have carried the characters into another season or two. The show was nominated for a number of big Emmys, and leading man Matthew Rhys took home a trophy. What a way to say goodbye!

Well, that didn't take long! Once Upon a Time finished airing on May 18 and the fantasy series' creators have already lined up their next project. Where Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis were gifted a fantastical world of fairy tale characters to play around with on Once Upon a Time, their next series will have an ever-more-endless canvas. And they will still be telling amazing stories. So what is this new project?

For their next series, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis will be taking a bite out of an apple Snow White would entirely approve of. Horowitz and Kitsis have boarded Apple's Amazing Stories as showrunners. The show is a "reimagining" of Steven Spielberg's anthology series of the same name. It ran for two seasons on NBC during the mid-1980s, and like many shows, it is on its way back. Spielberg will be involved in the revival, executive producing Amazing Stories alongside Horowitz and Kitsis.

The Once Upon a Time creators will be taking the project over from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller. Amazing Stories is not the only project Fuller has stepped away from. He left the Starz series American Gods ahead of its second season. He served as that series' co-showrunner during Season 1. News of the Amazing Stories reboot arrived two-and-a-half years ago. For those who are excited about the premise returning to television, we can only hope that the Once Upon a Time creators' involvement means progress toward to show coming to fruition sooner rather than later.

According to TVLine, Bryan Fuller's departure was fueled by creative differences with Apple. Fuller had reportedly envisioned an Amazing Stories with a darker narrative that conjured Netflix's Black Mirror, whereas Apple desired a show that could be watched by the entire family, something that is difficult to do with the Netflix anthology. Given Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis' background with the family-oriented Disney, it is no wonder why Apple believe they have found a fit worthy of Cinderella herself.

The Once Upon a Time creators are no strangers to elaborate science fiction stories. Before bringing the world a rebooted universe of fairy tale characters, the duo wrote for ABC's cult series Lost. Given that Lost often dealt with anthology-like elements in terms of telling isolated backstories in episodes focused on a single character, you know that Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis will be able to bring that strength to Amazing Stories.

There is currently no premiere date set for Amazing Stories, so stay tuned. There were some rocky patches along the way, but Once Upon a Time finally concluded its seven-season run this week. The show went through some major retooling for the final season, losing several main characters and somewhat rebooting the universe. It was a bit of an odd way to build the final season, but it's all over now and it must have made for a unique experience for fans. While the main characters finally saw their happy endings, things were a bit more downcast for the show as far as ratings were concerned, as the finale dropped 44% compared to last year.

Per Deadline, Once Upon a Time didn't go out on a series high note. Compared to the Season 6 finale, the series finale dropped 44% in total viewers. However, it was still the highest number of viewers (2.32 million) that the show has experienced over the last few months. It's important to note that these two finales aired on different nights, which may have been a contributing factor. Season 6 aired on Sunday nights, while the final season was moved to Fridays, which is typically not a great night for TV. Still, the ratings are not a great note to end on for the show even though there was no chance of there being another season.

However, that's not to say that ratings should affect the personal enjoyment of a show. The series ended with lots of characters achieving the happy endings they were looking for -- even the ones who died. Ultimately, that's always been what the show is about, so fans can take heart in the fact the show was allowed to end on its own terms. It wasn't a high performing show towards the end, even before the reboot and time slot shift.

If it comforts any fans out there, it wasn't a great night for ABC shows on the whole. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also aired a finale on Friday and while it wasn't a series finale, it didn't draw particularly high numbers. The Season 5 finale fell in viewership by 29% compared to the Season 4 finale last year. Likewise, these finales aired in different timeslots, with S.H.I.E.L.D. having moved from Tuesday to the dreaded Friday. So, Once Upon a Time was not alone in its troubles.

They did it. The Once Upon a Time finale drew its ensemble's stories to a close. Among them, one-time villain turned hero Regina. In the finale, Regina is able to cast a spell that unites all of the realms. She is ultimately crowned queen of the newly-minted realm as a beaming Snow White, and Prince Charming look on. So how does Regina's portrayer Lana Parrilla feel about her character's happily ever after? Here is what she had to say:

The significance of Regina's happy ending will not be lost on fans. As it ends Regina's journey in a startling juxtaposition from where she began the series. Lana Parrilla's comments to EW, undoubtedly echo the sentiment of fans, who wanted to see Regina receive an ending that encompassed her unconventional journey. Seldom do the villains in a fairytale become the heroes, and Regina's becoming leader of the united realm means just that.

Regina's journey marks one of Once Upon a Time's most sweeping arcs. Rumple/Gold and Regina both underwent incredible transformations, from being conflicted villains to anti-heroes, to full-blown good guys. The power of love was always in full force, and Regina's ending definitely pays tribute to that recurring theme. Of course, as Lana Parrilla points out, it is not really Regina's ending. Although, the finale does mark the beginning of Regina's new life as a Good Queen, which Snow White and Prince Charming, help usher her into.

The one-time enemies ended the series on a beyond-positive note that again, paid homage to how far the trio of characters' relationship has come. Could you have ever imagined Prince Charming and Snow White being involved with Regina being named "The Good Queen," when the show began? It would have seemed a faint fantasy at the time.

Now the question is whether the Once Upon a Time finale, really marks the end of the line? While the show closed the window on many of its storylines, it also opened the door to a possible future. Lana Parrilla even hinted at the open door the show created.

It will not take long for fans to miss their beloved fantasy drama. And what is it they say about not knowing what you have until it is gone? Well, Once Upon a Time fans didn't need to lose the show to know how special it was to them. For seven seasons, the show has entertained and enchanted, what's an ending without a little hope the journey could continue at some point in time?

ABC's Once Upon a Time has finally ended its seven season run, and, as is not unusual for a big series finale these days, not everyone came out alive at the end of the episode. But, everyone did manage to get their happy ending. See, Rumple gave his life to save Hook, actually pulling the beating heart out of his own chest to save the man right before he died, and, as you can imagine, Rumple was not able to survive such a sacrifice. Sad as the moment was, though, this selfless act meant that Rumple was able to go to heaven and spend the rest of eternity with his beloved Belle. So, how did those behind the show know that Rumple had to die? Here's what executive producer/co-creator Edward Kitsis had to say about the shocking death:

So, it sounds like the whole reasoning behind Rumple's death was to make sure he could get his happy ending, and the only way to really do that was to let him die so that he could be with Belle. It's also nice that Rumple got to go out doing something wonderful for someone else. Edward Kitsis and Once Upon a Time's other executive producer/co-creator Adam Horowitz noted to TV Line that the irony of that huge gesture was definitely well thought out:

Well, you read that right, folks. During an earlier moment in the episode when Hook and Rumple were looking for Maui's magical fishhook in a snowy wasteland, Rumple actually got the chance to tell Hook that he considered him "the closest thing he ever had to a friend." I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a beyond touching moment. And, in giving his heart over to Hook, not only was Rumple able to finally reunite with Belle, but he was able to do something truly wonderful for his only friend.

When Once Upon a Time Season 6 came to an end, Ginnifer Goodwin and her husband/co-star Josh Dallas were among the cast members who exited the show. Season 7 subsequently underwent a major retool that introduced many new characters. When news broke that the fantasy series would be ending, it wasn't long before Goodwin and Dallas confirmed they were returning for the finale, along with fellow original cast member Jennifer Morrison. With her filming on the series finale almost complete, Ginnifer Goodwin opened up about how she feels about the show coming to an end:

If fans are getting emotional over the impending close of the series, Ginnifer Goodwin clearly knows the feeling. The actress' finale filming confession to EW is a poignant reminder of how much a series can come to mean to its cast. Goodwin is an original cast member, who starred as Snow White for six seasons before leaving the show on a happy note ahead of Season 7. In a fun twist, Once Upon a Time hasn't played a role in just its characters getting their happy endings, though. It is also responsible for some of the cast's, including Goodwin's.

The two actors who portrayed Snow White and Prince Charming ended up finding love together in real life. Ginnifer Goodwin fell in love with her future husband Josh Dallas while filming Once Upon a Time, and the couple now has two children. Hopefully fans will get a chance to see their favorite Once Upon a Time characters live out similarly happy endings before the series ends.

Since leaving Once Upon a Time, Ginnifer Goodwin has filmed a pilot for an ABC comedy entitled Steps. Fans will have to stay tuned in order to see if it gets picked up. For now, the Once Upon a Time series finale is where you can catch the actress as she plays Snow White for the final time.

The two-part finale begins this coming Friday (May 11). So what should you expect? It seems the finale will bring fans back to the beginning with lots of hope for the future. Given the number of revivals recently, a trip back to Storybrooke wouldn't be entirely shocking. For now, though, the storybook has reached its final chapter.

Once Upon a Time is preparing to say goodbye. After seven seasons, the fantasy drama will be turning the final pages of its fairytale with the series finale entitled "Leaving Storybrooke," which is set to include many returns from the original cast members. While actor Colin O'Donoghue remained on the show following the Season 7 quasi-reboot, he did not do so as the original Captain Hook, so if you are wondering if you will see the actor once again portraying the original version of the popular pirate before Season 7 concludes, the answer is "yes."

Colin O'Donoghue has confirmed to TV Line that he's been filming more swashbuckling scenes, and he pretty much affirms that Once Upon a Time fans will see the original Captain Hook and Jennifer Morrison's Emma together again before the end of the series. Here's how he put it.

Hook's return independent of the Wish Realm is not entirely surprising news. With the boatload of returns that have previously been confirmed, especially Jennifer Morrison's, it was hinted at that fans would see the couple again. Here's hoping those characters will share more than a "little moment" together, though, since we've been waiting quite a while.

Fans last saw the pair when Jennifer Morrison returned for the second episode of Once Upon a Time's seventh season. In it, Emma revealed that she and Hook were expecting their first child together. It is unknown if fans will see said child before the series ends, but it is a likely bet. Given the show's varying timelines and dimensions, it is also a mystery whether fans will be introduced to Hook and Emma's baby as a full-grown adult, or as a wee baby.

The former scenario would not be something entirely out of the ordinary for the fantasy drama. When Once Upon a Time began, an adult Emma met her parents in Storybrooke, and they were not too much older than her. It is possible that the arrival of Henry's little brother or sister will play a significant role in the finale. Fans do need to prepare themselves not to get all of the answers they may be seeking, though, since there will almost definitely be more than a handful of dangling plot threads, what with all the stories that need concluding.

For most of Season 7, fans have been watching the Wish Realm Hook try to find his daughter, but now fans can get pumped to see the original Hook back in action and with Emma. It all sounds like Once Upon a Time is setting itself up for a fairytale ending.

Unfortunately for fans of the ABC drama Once Upon a Time, the fairytale is drawing to a close. ABC announced its cancellation of the series this past February. The good news is that Jennifer Morrison is returning for the finale. Yesterday, the actress, who previously starred as Emma Swann on the cult hit, shared a selfie and a heartfelt message with fans, after she finished filming her final scenes for the series. Morrison left the show voluntarily at the end of Season 6, while many of her other cast members were let go to pave the way for a reinvention of the series, which included an almost entirely new cast. For Once Upon a Time's seventh season, the show underwent a massive reboot, which included an enormous cast shakeup. ABC also moved the show from its Sunday night slot into the ever-ominous Friday zone. The writing had been on the wall for a while. When she announced her exit from the series on Instagram, Jennifer Morrison assured fans that she planned to appear in one episode of Season 7. She similarly returned for the series finale of House.

The beloved actress kept her word to Once Upon a Time's passionate fans, when she came back earlier this season. In Episode 2 of Season 7, Jennifer Morrison returned as Emma Swan, to help complete the fan favorite's storyline. That included leaving her romance with Killian aka Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) on a happy note. Towards the end of Season 6, Emma and Killian actually got married. When Morrison returned to wrap-up Emma's story in Episode 2 of Season 7, it was revealed they were having their first baby.

Jennifer Morrison is not the only actor returning for the Once Upon a Time finale. Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, and Emilie de Ravin are among many other cast members set to return for the series finale. ABC previously announced that the two-part series finale would start on May 11 and conclude on May 18. The final episode is entitled "Leaving Stroybrooke." Regarding the cast members returning for the finale, Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis also told TV Line about the show's ending:

Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) returning for the series finale is the perfect bit of full circle closure, fans of the show need. After all, Emma is the character the series originally revolved around. Having spent many seasons trying to find her happily ever after, she finally got it. With her return for the series finale, Once Upon a Time fans have to wonder if her happy ending will stick, and hope it does. Tune in for the final episodes of Once Upon A Time on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET, only on ABC.

Once Upon a Time is coming to an end on ABC. Season 7 took the show in some bold new directions by replacing almost the entire cast and bidding a fond farewell to the characters who drove the fairy tale action for the majority of the series. Unfortunately for fans who love the new directions, Once Upon a Time did get the axe, and not too many episodes are left. The good news is that the series finale will bring back a number of familiar faces, including Jennifer Morrison herself as Emma.

Jennifer Morrison will reprise her role as Emma, and Emma won't be the only member of her family to appear. Snow White and Charming will be back as well, as Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas are both slated to appear in the finale. Additionally, Emilie de Ravin will return to play Belle once more. Once Upon a Time co-creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz said this in a statement about the finale returns:

The series finale will mark the first time that Snow White and Charming turn up since the Season 6 finale. They got their own little happily-ever-after when they moved to a new house to raise baby Neal together, but Once Upon a Time will apparently bring them back for one more adventure. Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas as Snow and Charming set the series in motion back in the beginning, so it's only fitting that they're back for the end.

The series finale will mark the second time that both Jennifer Morrison and Emilie de Ravin appear in Season 7. Morrison turned up in the second episode of the seventh season as Emma to help explain what on earth happened between the end of Season 6 and Season 7, as well as to delight Emma/Hook fans everywhere with the reveal that she's pregnant with their child. Emilie de Ravin made an appearance to motivate Rumplestiltskin and reward fans who were missing Belle.

These four won't be the only characters from the first six seasons to return. Sean Maguire will be back as Robin Hood, Victoria Smurfit as Cruella de Vil, JoAnne Garcia-Swisher as Ariel, Robbie Kay as Peter Pan, Lee Arenberg as Leroy/Grumpy, Keegan Tracy as Mother Superior/Blue Fairy, and Tony Amendola as Marco/Geppetto. Rebecca Mader will remain as Zelena through the finale, and Jared Gilmore and Beverley Elliott will pop up as Young Henry and Granny in flashbacks for the twentieth episode.

The Once Upon a Time series finale will be a two-part event that kicks off on Friday, May 11 and continues on Friday, May 18. The TV landscape is more competitive than ever, with roughly a bazaillatrillion shows currently in production. But with all these new series popping up all the time, there necessarily needs to be cancellations balancing the scales. Even though we're not even through the first quarter of the year, audiences have already suffered series-ending blows for a sizable number of fan-friendly shows.

So let's take a look at all the TV shows that viewers have already had to mourn in 2018. Major networks don't usually go heavy on announcing show endings until May shows up, but ABC let a couple slide early on, while cable and streaming outlets were far freer with their cancellation announcements. Once Upon a Time - ABC

The fairy tale drama Once Upon a Time had already caused eyebrows to raise with its thematic reboot for the currently airing Season 7, and it wasn't immediately obvious how the ABC hit would continue on for many more years. Perhaps understandably then, the network didn't even wait until the season was over before announcing Once Upon a Time was coming to an end. As disappointing as that news may have been for many, at least it gave the showrunners a chance to wrap things with a definitive ending, as opposed to an awkward cliffhanger.

Chance - Hulu

As his first big leading TV series role after his celebrated run on House -- with Veep being a co-starring role, and Night Manager being a miniseries -- Hugh Laurie teamed up with Hulu for the dark and quick-footed thriller Chance. Creators Alexandra Cunningham and Kem Nunn got two seasons to put Laurie and Ethan Suplee through some white-knuckle situations with all manner of dangerous people. Unfortunately, Chance never built up much of a buzz with the public, and Hulu decided that Laurie's character had enough stress for one series, cancelling it a little over a month after Season 2 ended.

Disjointed - Netflix

It seemed like a match made in weirdo TV heaven when Kathy Bates teamed up with Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre for a broad pot comedy for Netflix. But whatever potential that combination mustered was put into a pipe and smoked out of existence, and Disjointed lived up to its name and then some. From the head-scratchingly loony cutaway moments to the über-sitcom punchlines, Disjointed could have been one of pop culture's most addictive weed-fueled efforts, but critical pans and viewer disinterest sealed the show's fate, and Netflix decided to cancel it after its 20-episode first season.

The Librarians - TNT

It's a TV story that has zero direct comparisons: The Librarians was a spinoff of a series of made-for-TV movies, which is already weird, and it boasted the star power of Rebecca Romijn and John Larroquette. But even though fans couldn't get enough, the number of said fans dwindled from year to year, and Season 4 wasn't bringing in nearly as many people as TNT would have hoped. (Of course, TNT also cancelled the highly watched Major Crimes out of the blue.) The network waited just a couple of weeks before announcing The Librarians' end, though there is hope that it could continue elsewhere.

Damnation - USA

There has been an interesting rise in TV western dramas in recent years, and USA delivered a well-realized look at Dust Bowl-era politics, with Killian Scott and Logan Marshall-Green leading a wining cast. But, here in 2018 where attention spans are seemingly as fragile as ever, perhaps wide swaths of TV audiences weren't quite set to watch a TV show that's all about bureaucracy, strikes, industrialism and small town preachers. As such, the show couldn't boast the biggest viewership, and USA decided to cancel Damnation after just a single season had aired.

Lady Dynamite - Netflix

Comedian Maria Bamford hooked up with Pam Brady and Mitch Hurwitz for the strikingly original comedy Lady Dynamite, and I'd wager a lot of money that this series wouldn't have gotten readily made at many other studios. Its surreal and tradition-bucking approach to TV storytelling kept fans and critics rolling, but it's possible there just weren't enough people doing that rolling, since Netflix cancelled Lady Dynamite a couple of months after its second season debuted. Sadly, that news didn't come with the announcement that a spinoff was ordered, to be centered on all of Maria's friends.

The Mayor - ABC

Though ABC let The Mayor get through 2017 without facing any cancellation news, the network decided not to bring the Brandon Michael Hall-starring comedy back from its midseason hiatus, cancelling it just a few days into the new year. Low ratings played a key role in The Mayor's early farewell, but the fans that did tune in thankfully didn't have to go without ever watching the rest of the produced episodes. The four installments that didn't air on ABC were then released on Hulu, which was also rumored to have been targeted to rescue The Mayor from its cancelled status. (It didn't happen.)

One Mississippi - Amazon

Comedian and cancer survivor Tig Notaro bravely brought a version of her life story to Amazon for the funny, touching and poignant One Mississippi, which won critics over even without a lot of mega-buzz going for it. The show's second season made headlines in part because of former executive producer Louis C.K.'s harassment scandal, and also because of Notaro's strong words about that situation. But after Amazon went public with its decision to shift its original series focus over to tentpole event shows, One Mississippi and others fell victim to the company's push away from comedy.

Dice - Showtime

Showtime comedies haven't exactly been popping off lately, with White Famous getting its plug pulled just before 2017 ended, and Andrew Dice Clay's quasi-autobiographical Dice getting cancelled not long after. The once-offensive comedian found a renewed interest in acting in recent years, peaking in this half-hour showtime project about his fictional self's up-and-down career and family life in Las Vegas. Critics weren't altogether appreciative of it during its first season, making its one and only renewal something of a surprise, but the show's dismal ratings couldn't save it from getting cancelled the next time.

Hopefully all your favorite shows are still airing, and will be for as long as you're around to enjoy them. While waiting to hear about more renewals and cancellations, head to our midseason premiere schedule to take note of what is definitely on the way soon.

TV is a competitive game, and few shows are ever guaranteed a future unless they're breaking ratings records. Once Upon a Time is the latest major network show to get the axe, which isn't all that surprising considering its ratings for Season 7, and the show will have the time to wrap up its story before the end. The biggest impact of Once Upon a Time's cancellation may be on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which airs in the time slot directly after Once Upon a Time on Friday nights.

Neither Once Upon a Time nor S.H.I.E.L.D. aired on Friday nights prior to the beginning of the 2017-2018 TV season. Back in May 2017, ABC Chief Channing Dungey explained that the reason for the two shows switching time slots was because ABC wanted to turn "Friday into more of a destination for our fantasy and science fiction fans." The low ratings and subsequent cancellation of Once Upon a Time could be a sign to ABC that Friday night as a sci-fi/fantasy destination doesn't work the way they wanted.

Now, if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was a big ratings winner for ABC, we likely wouldn't need to worry about its future, with or without Once Upon a Time. Unfortunately, the shows have scored very similar numbers throughout the 2017-2018 TV season. In Live+Same day calculations, Once Upon a Time Season 7 averages 2.48 million viewers and a 0.55 rating in the key 18-49 age demographic, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 averages 2.29 million viewers and a 0.60 rating in the 18-49 demo. If Once Upon a Time's ratings were low enough to warrant cancellation and ABC gets the idea that the sci-fi/fantasy destination didn't quite materialize, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could potentially be the next show to get the axe.

That said, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does have the benefit of a Marvel connection. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is only getting bigger with the passage of time, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is Marvel's longest-running project on the small screen. In fact, ABC reportedly wanted to cancel S.H.I.E.L.D. after Season 4, but ABC parent company Disney stepped in to save the Marvel property. Perhaps this is a sign that Disney will be more inclined to order another Marvel project to pair with S.H.I.E.L.D. on Fridays than to cancel it after five seasons.

Channing Dungey did indicate earlier this year that ABC wasn't actively working on any more Marvel projects or pilots, but who's to say that won't change? The MCU is going to have a very big year thanks to Black Panther (premiering on February 16) and Avengers: Infinity War (releasing on May 4). Why not keep the buzz going with a new show? Stranger things have happened.

Another possibility is that Marvel's Inhumans will get a reprieve from permanent cancellation to be paired with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC notably has not ruled out a second season of the freshman series, although the odds haven't been the best. Inhumans underperformed in the ratings and failed to win a core audience in its brief run back in the fall. Once Upon a Time's cancellation leaves the pre-S.H.I.E.L.D. slot open; would it be so crazy to give Inhumans a second try as a partner to another Marvel show?

Of these three possibilities, my fingers are crossed that S.H.I.E.L.D. either gets a new Marvel pairing or Inhumans is saved from cancellation to air on Friday nights. S.H.I.E.L.D. has tried some new things in Season 5 that have been a lot of fun, and breaking the last couple of seasons up into arcs has allowed S.H.I.E.L.D. to continually reinvent itself. Of course, it's possible that ABC will simply move one of its existing shows into Once Upon a Time's slot, premiere a new show in the soon-to-be-vacant slot, or move S.H.I.E.L.D. to another night without cancelling it. We can only wait, cross our fingers, and find out for ourselves.

Once Upon a Time went in a radical new direction for its current seventh season after the Season 6 finale departures of almost the entire main cast. Season 7 has felt almost more like a spinoff of Once Upon a Time than a new season of the same show, not least because it was moved to Friday nights. Unfortunately for fans who have enjoyed the show's new direction, Once Upon a Time is officially ending after Season 7, and series creator Adam Horowitz had this to say about the decision to wrap things up for good:

While the cancellation is undoubtedly a bummer for fans who were expecting the new era of Once Upon a Time to continue for at least one more season after the current batch of episodes, creator Adam Horowitz was not taken by surprise by the decision to bring the show to a close. In fact, judging by his comments to EW, he and the others behind-the-scenes at Once Upon a Time were prepared to wrap up the story that's being told in Season 7, which hopefully means that the show won't end on a killer cliffhanger.

Any fans who have been paying attention to the show's ratings probably weren't especially surprised by the cancellation. In Live+Same day calculations, Once Upon a Time Season 7 has been averaging only 2.48 million viewers and a 0.55 rating in the key 18-49 age demographic. To compare, Season 6 (which aired on Sunday nights) averaged 3.15 million viewers and a 0.94 rating in the key demo. Even for Fridays nights when ratings are generally expected to be low, Once Upon a Time has been underperforming.

Sadly, the cancellation does mean that we won't get to see all the new characters go on journeys similar to Snow White and Prince Charming and the rest from the first six seasons. We certainly won't get much of the newly-cast Prince Naveen, and there may not be time for many familiar faces to return. Only time will tell how many loose ends will be tied off by the end of Season 7 and the series as a whole.

Once Upon a Time entered a whole new era in Season 7 due to the departures of almost the entire cast in favor of a bunch of brand new characters. One of those characters was none other than Tiana, who Disney fans recognize as the leading lady from 2009's animated feature The Princess and the Frog. The inclusion of Tiana led many fans to figure that her prince would debut at some point in Season 7, and we now know when he's coming and who will tackle the role. Jeff Pierre of Beyond fame will play Prince Naveen on Once Upon a Time.

Jeff Pierre will make his debut as Prince Naveen in the twelfth episode of Season 7, which will be called "A Taste of the Heights." Unfortunately, fans have a bit of a wait on their hands, as that episode won't air until Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The good news is that Naveen will be a recurring role for Pierre, so he won't just be a one-off guest star.

By this point in the run of the series, Once Upon a Time is somewhat infamous for putting major twists on characters that viewers thought they already knew. Back before the show premiered, who would have guessed that Snow White was an outlaw archer who met her Prince Charming after she robbed him? We can't say at this point just how similar (or different) the show's Naveen will be from the Princess and the Frog's Naveen. The show version will be a freewheeling adventurer whose love for fun eclipses any caution about the dangers around him... or so it seems. TVLine reports that Naveen's easygoing appearance conceals a man who struggles with a past filled with tragedy. He intends to make up for the wrongs in his past, although he may have to give up some of what he holds dearest in order to do so.

On the one hand, that description does somewhat fit the character from The Princess and the Frog, who lived an extravagant life of wasting money... until his parents cut him off and he goes on a froggy journey of self-discovery. The Naveen of Once Upon a Time seems to have a darker past than the animated incarnation of the character, and the danger may be a lot more real. We'll have to wait and see.

Jeff Pierre is best known for his roll as Jeff in Freeform's Beyond, which delivered something brand new for that network. He also appeared in ten episodes of Shameless back in 2016. It should be interesting to see how he fits into the ensemble of Once Upon a Time in Season 7 and whether or not he sticks around in the long run.

Fans of ABC's fantastical Once Upon a Time already knew ahead of Season 7 that the show would be very different when it returned. The Season 6 finale ended the stories of regulars Snow White, Prince Charming, Emma Swan, and many others, with an almost entirely new cast coming on board for Season 7. One of the few original actors who signed on for Season 7 was Robert Carlyle as the always-ambiguous Rumplestiltskin, and the Season 7 premiere finally gave us a look at his new life: as a cop.

In the first six seasons, Rumple went by "Mr. Gold" the pawn shop owner in Storybrooke. The action in Season 7 is set in the Seattle area known as Hyperion Heights, and Rumple is known as Detective Weaver. He didn't appear in much of the episode, but it was quite telling that he was no longer Mr. Gold and Rumple. Belle was nowhere to be seen, and actress Emilie de Ravin is not on board as a regular. The big question is what on earth happened that Rumple ended up as a detective in Hyperion Heights. Once Upon a Time creator Edward Kitsis has revealed when we can expect to learn about what has happened to Rumplestiltskin, saying this:

We apparently only have to wait a few more episodes to get some info on what's going on with Rumple. Edward Kitsis' reveal that Episode 4 will give some answers means that the next couple of episodes will likely focus more on the stories of other characters rather than Rumple, although we can bet Rumple will still have a part to play now that he's working with the new version of Hook.

Once Upon a Time has always been a story about characters and happy endings, but Rumplestiltskin is one who always seemed unlikely to get one of his own after all of the less-than-lovely things he did to the people of Storybrooke. His love story with Belle did go a long way in humanizing the character once known as the Dark One; the events between the end of Season 6 and the beginning of Season 7 evidently cost him dearly. Emilie de Ravin will appear later in Season 7, although we'll have to wait and see if Belle appears in the past or the present.

Series co-creator Adam Horowitz went on in the chat with THR to tease that Rumple will be forming connections to new characters:

Well, Once Upon a Time is clearly going to be a different kind of show moving forward, but Rumplestiltskin is clearly as mysterious as ever. Continuing to produce long running TV dramas is no easy task. Writers can grow tired, actors want to move on, and overall its easy for shows to jump the shark at around the time of Season 5. And then there's ABC's Once Upon a Time, which is changing all the rules and expectations. Because after six seasons of Storybrooke's characters and adventures, this year will bring a soft reboot of the series with an almost entirely new cast of actors. It seems that most of the cast has washed their hands clean of OUAT, although Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actor Scott Michael Foster seems down to return as Kristoff.

I recently had the chance to speak with Scott Michael Foster about his role in the upcoming third season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. During our conversation I asked if he'd liked to reprise his role in Once Upon a Time, and he said:

Well, that's one part of the Frozen cast that would be down for a reprise. Now we just need to get Elsa and Anna on board and we can head back to Arendelle.

While it's unlikely that Scott Michael Foster will be appearing in Once Upon a Time anytime soon, the viewers would no doubt appreciate to see some familiar faces when the series returns for Season 7. The concept of letting go almost the entire starring cast is no doubt giving the fandom pause about the future of the series they've been following for the past six years. And while the biggest characters aren't going to be showing back up anytime soon, perhaps some of the many tertiary figures can arrive when an adult Henry inevitably travels back to Storybrooke.

For those who don't remember, Scott Michael Foster's Kristoff was a recurring character in Once Upon a Time's fourth season. Fresh after the massive popularity of Disney's Frozen, the ABC fantasy series decided to adapt those characters in live-action form on the show. Kristoff is Anna's love interest in both the movie and TV series, and he aids the two sisters in their adventures across Arendelle.

It would definitely be great to see Scott Michael Foster play Kristoff again, although his contract with The CW might prevent him from doing so. Last year he was promoted to a series regular on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and will have a more substantial role in its upcoming third season.

ABC's Once Upon A Time shook up its premise in a huge way in the Season 6 finale. A time skip jumped the narrative ahead by years, and the final scene introduced us to an adult Henry unexpectedly meeting his daughter. Only a few regulars from Season 6 will be back for Season 7, but we now know that the show has some folks picked out to fill the ensemble. Once Upon A Time has officially cast two actresses as regulars and three actresses for recurring roles.

The two new regulars will be Dania Ramirez of Devious Maids and Gabrielle Anwar of Burn Notice. The recurring actresses will be Mekia Cox of Chicago Med, Rose Reynolds of Wasted, and Adelaide Kane fresh off of the series finale of Reign on The CW. Deadline reports that ABC is keeping character details secret for the time being, so we'll have to wait to find out more about who these five actresses will be playing.

The actresses certainly have some big shoes to fill. The Season 6 finale saw the departures of Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin, Jared S. Gilmore, and Rebecca Mader. Only Lana Parilla, Robert Carlyle, and Colin O'Donoghue are returning for Season 7, joining Andrew J. West as he tackles the role of the adult Henry.

A big question is where Once Upon A Time can possibly go moving forward. The show has already tackled the biggest fairy tales and more beloved Disney movies. Snow White and Prince Charming's story has already been told. We saw the show's version of the Beauty and the Beast story, watched a new take on Wizard of Oz, and even saw a twisted version of Peter Pan. We've had Elsa and Anna of Frozen, Aladdin and Jasmine of Aladdin, and even Hercules and Megara of Hercules. Either Season 7 is going to have to scrape the bottom of the Disney fairy tale barrel or go in a very different direction moving forward.

Of course, a Season 7 was never a sure thing, as Once Upon A Time was in danger of being cancelled. The sixth season averaged only 3.15 million viewers with a 0.94 in the valuable 18-49 ratings demographic in Live+Same day measurements, which marked a big drop from the fifth season. It should be interesting to see if the reboot of sorts results in viewers tuning back in when the show returns in the fall.

ABC has actually moved Once Upon A Time out of its Sunday time slot for Season 7. New episodes will air on Friday nights, which will pair Once Upon A Time first with Inhumans and then with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I mean, wow for some of that, right? Yes, I'm mostly talking about ABC apparently trying to make Friday nights a TV event night again, years after TGIF lost its steam. Once Upon a Time was unearthed from its Sunday night slot and its drastically different new season was placed to be a lead-in for Inhumans, which does not seem like a Friday night kind of show, given its name recognition. On the comedy side of things, some changes also occurred, with black-ish shifting to Tuesday nights at a new time, with Fresh Off the Boat also shifting its time. Plus, the Wednesday night comedy block has now welcomed American Housewife in to the fold to see if that'll shake things up.

Beyond Inhumans, there are several other new shows to look out for on ABC's schedule, such as The Good Doctor, which follows an autistic surgeon played by Bates Motel's Freddie Highmore, or Jason Ritter's return to TV for the religion-tinged drama The Gospel of Kevin. Sunday newb Ten Days in the Valley stars Kyra Sedgwick as a woman whose already complicated life is turned upside down when her daughter goes missing. On the comedy front, we have the rapper-turns-politician sitcom The Mayor, with Lea Michele and Yvette Nicole Brown.

One notable absence there is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which has already been renewed for Season 5, but will likely show up when the midseason schedule is revealed later this year. The network also announced new unscripted series The Bachlor Winter Games and Dancing with the Stars Junior, along with the TV return of American Idol, but none of those will be showing up just yet.

There's a huge fairy tale facelift happening over at Once Upon a Time right now. The show was renewed for Season 7 but fans should expect it to look radically different when it returns in the fall. Not only has Jennifer Morrison, (Emma Swan, the main character of the show) announced that she will only be coming back for one episode, but most of the main cast will be leaving as well -- including Rebecca Mader. Mader portrays Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West, on the show and Mader confirmed herself that she will not be a part of Season 7.

Rebecca Mader took to Instagram (which seems to be the popular way to make these announcements) with a lengthy post explaining why she will not be returning as Zelena on the show. The decision was essentially made for her, with the show moving in a new creative directive and while she says that she would have loved to return, she understands the decision and there's no bad blood. What she really wants to make clear is her respect and love for the fans and how she is "a better person because of you, the fans and everyone that blessed me with this opportunity to play such an iconic role."

On Once Upon a Time, Rebecca Mader played Zelena, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. Keeping in line with the ridiculously complicated family tree of that show, Zelena was the half-sister of Regina, formerly the Evil Queen, and the two shared an uneasy relationship. Zelena eventually tricked Regina's boyfriend Robin Hood into impregnating her by pretending to be his dead wife, producing a daughter that she for some reason decided to also name Robin. Fairy tales, what are you gonna do? She would go back and forth between being an ally and enemy of her sister as the show went on.

Zelena will not be the only character not returning to Season 7. In addition to Jennifer Morrison's departure, Once Upon a Time is only keeping three main characters: Regina (Lana Parrilla), Hook (Colin O'Donoghue), and Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). The rest of the cast, which includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jared Gilmore, and Emilie de Ravin, will assumedly be getting their final goodbyes in the Season 6 finale airing tonight. It's definitely an interesting time to be a fan of the show, as it essentially strips everything but some of the best characters. It's a gambit for sure, but it could always provide a fresh feeling that the show as been lacking for a while.

Across its six sometimes musical seasons, ABC's fantastical Once Upon a Time has put its characters through dangerous dilemmas and magical mayhem, though not without a thread of joy and happiness running throughout. (At least for most characters.) Unfortunately, that thread will soon run out for one Emma Swan, as actress Jennifer Morrison has decided against returning as a series regular should Once Upon a Time finally get renewed for Season 7. That means this weekend's finale could, appropriately enough, be the character's swan song.

Jennifer Morrison leaving Once Upon a Time is huge, since she's one of the handful of stars that have guided this wide-reaching ensemble since its debut in 2011. Emma Swan has been a major force in Storybrooke, with her story first embracing her familial roots within this universe. She went on to save Storybrooke from being destroyed by others, and then later formed her own villainous persona, thanks to Rumplestiltskin's devious intentions, and partly became the Dark One/Dark Swan. (No relation to Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.) She is all set to live that newlywed life with Hook in the Season 6 finale, though we know that things are going to go as haywire as they always do. We shouldn't expect Emma to meet her doom or anything, as survival was implied by Morrison being asked to return to the show for Season 7, but don't expect the character to enter into a huge new plotline.

The actress herself announced the decision on her Instagram page, and it's hard to get too upset with her when she sounds so grateful.

Maybe she wants to get more into comedy again with that How I Met Your Mother spinoff that's been kicked around for a while. Or maybe she just wants to live a fairy tale-free life. Either way, we hope for the best on all fronts.

At this point, ABC has been mum about Once Upon a Time's future, showing no signs of whether a renewal or a cancellation is more likely. (Check out our rundown of all the network shows' fates.) The dedicated fanbase of Oncers obviously want to see as much of this universe as they can, but the network likely wishes that fanbase was a little larger and a little more active in watching live on Sunday nights, since Once Upon a Time's ratings dipped lower than expected in Season 6, causing its on-the-bubble status. Will Jennifer Morrison's absence turn more people away from a potential seventh season, or will (presumably remaining) stars like Ginnifer Goodwin and Lana Parrilla keep viewers glued to their seats?

As people are chowing down on Easter candy and celebrating another season of baseball, many TV fans are waiting patiently to for all the big networks to make final decisions for all the shows that have yet to be rewarded with a renewal or walloped with a cancellation. Considering how many successful shows out there have already earned renewal announcements, almost everything that's left is targeted for a small screen exile. (Get the full rundown here.)

Here are 13 network series -- big, small, old and new -- that are in major danger of getting axed right off our TVs, for one reason or another. As it always goes, fans should keep the faith and make that fandom known far and wide, so that execs realize how dedicated the viewerships are. Just, you know, don't be surprised if those efforts are too late.

New Girl

After six years of romances, friendships, apartment-based shenanigans and more, the characters of New Girl reached different levels of catharsis in the Season 6 finale, with big life changes coming to Jess, Nick, Cece, Schmidt and Winston. (Not to mention Schmidt's first name recently getting revealed.) But while many fans were pumped to see all that happen, that fanbase is only a fraction of its former size, and many have vocalized how content they'd be if the show ended on that happy note. It's rare for a TV series to cap things off in a way that respects and pleases both the characters and the audiences, so maybe New Girl would be best to hang it up.

Imaginary Mary

Almost every year, there's one network series that seems to be plagued with invisible albatrosses, and this year's prizewinner is the ABC comedy Imaginary Mary. Intrinsically a comeback vehicle for TV familiar Jenna Elfman, the quirk-driven show (that's kind of like a watered-down Drop Dead Fred with CGI) was pushed from a fall premiere to a late midseason debut, while also getting its episode order slashed in the process. Despite having Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg as one of the brains behind it, Imaginary Mary was largely panned by critics and audiences when it debuted, and though it's only been a few weeks, the numbers have already started trickling down.

Quantico

When ABC debuted Quantico, it looked like the network had found its next twisty thriller to complement the network's TGIT and Wednesday comedy lineups. Unfortunately, the Priyanka Chopra-starring series quickly began losing steam as its timeline-flipping narrative became too much for viewers. Due to tanking ratings in Season 2, ABC moved Quantico from Sunday nights to Monday nights, and the adjustment did bring about an uptick in viewers...but only for about two weeks, and the numbers are back down to around 2.5 million viewers for Live+Same Day. It'd be one thing if the demo rating was impressive, but Quantico hasn't earned anything as high as a 1.0 rating since this season's second episode.

Emerald City

Even knowing that optimism doesn't have any standards for people to adhere to, it's still hard to believe anyone involved with Emerald City was high on the idea that this would be a show that took hold of audiences for years. It was first put together for a potential 2015 debut, but got cancelled before filming could start, only to be resurrected the next year and put through an over-lengthy production process on the way to a 2017 premiere that 4.5 million people watched and mostly responded with, "Meh." Those numbers quickly dropped as the weeks went by, and one would assume it would take an actual witch or wizard to bring Emerald City back for Season 2.

Scream Queens

When Scream Queens hit Fox a couple of years ago, it seemed like a good way for Ryan Murphy to branch out from the cable madness that is American Horror Story. But then The People v O.J. Simpson came out and won all the accolades, and then Feud happened and is probably set to later win all the accolades. So with all this prestigious drama to complement the sordid sadism of AHS, returning to Fox for the bubblegum-colored rudeness of Scream Queens would be a bit of a backwards step, especially since the John Stamos-starring Season 2 rarely got more than 1.5 million viewers on the night, with a demo rating right around 0.5. It is to scream, indeed.

The Great Indoors

Former Community star Joel McHale was likely booming with optimism when he landed the lead on CBS' The Great Indoors, since the network has a track record for earning huge numbers for its comedies, which often stick around for years. And yet, here we are in April, where almost every other CBS series has received a renewal, and nothing has happened with The Great Indoors. It's perhaps the biggest surprise on this list, since its audience is almost always around 7 million viewers, its demo rating is consistently above a 1.0, and it even had more episodes ordered at some point. If The Great Indoors does get sent outside to pasture, expect some protests.

Once Upon a Time

With a concept that has surprisingly lasted as long as it has, Once Upon a Time could probably still go on for many more years if all the showrunners had to worry about was finding new characters from fairy tales and Disney's library to introduce. But as it usually goes, it's all about the ratings, and last week's same-night audience of 2.6 million is less than half of what the show was averaging just two seasons ago. Plus, the producers have already talked about Season 6 bringing the end game (with a finale called "The Final Battle) and that the future of Once Upon a Time may have to head in a drastically new direction.

Pure Genius

Another CBS freshman series to make this list, Pure Genius is pretty similar to The Great Indoors in that the show maintained a steady audience -- only losing a little over a million total viewers between the premiere and the finale -- and that its audience was a loyal one. Plus, the show's delayed viewing numbers were also pretty impressive. Unfortunately, though, CBS never gave Pure Genius an order for more episodes, so fans have been waiting since the end of January to hear about the medical drama's fate. But considering almost everything else at CBS already got word about the future, the diagnosis here is looking pretty grim.

Powerless

It's understandable that NBC assumed the success that comic book movies have on the big screen would factor into its second big comic-related property (after Constantine). But that just hasn't happened for Powerless, a comedy set wholly within the world of DC Comics' high-flying and building-destroying heroes and villains. Despite all the costumed namechecks and the stellar cast, which includes cult-audience faves Alan Tudyk and Danny Pudi, Powerless started pretty weak (3.1 million watched the premiere) and only got worse from there. Perhaps had Powerless stuck to its more clever original pilot focus, rather than the shameless comic worship that it got reworked into, NBC might have saved primetime.

The Exorcist

Of all the movie adaptations that have hit the small screen recently, The Exorcist seemed like it was destined for the biggest failure, since its source material is one of the scariest horror films of all time. (Not to mention the success of William Peter Blatty's novel.) Yet somehow, Fox's Exorcist reimagining really worked in many ways, from its performances to its aesthetic to the legitimate scares that were crafted. But not everybody is into Christ-compelled demons on Friday nights, and the freshman series was on the very low end on the viewership and ratings scale. And those numbers talk much louder than frightful screams of happy audience members.

The Odd Couple

Despite some mathematical odds, along with roommate-related ones, The Odd Couple managed earn the ratings to last three seasons on CBS, but that stretch might have reached its end. Though the total viewership isn't dismal, The Odd Couple's demo rating isn't winning anyone over, and CBS' decision to move it from a midseason entry to a fall entry somehow didn't help its chances; the network decided not to extend the episode count, nor make any renewal announcements. There's the slightest of chances that The Odd Couple could return for Season 4 at some point, but even star Thomas Lennon told us Season 3 was probably it.

Training Day

Less than one year after spinning the successful Rush Hour film franchise into a lame duck TV adaptation that was rather quickly cancelled and removed from the schedule, CBS tried its take on a more series feature drama with a small screen quasi-continuation of the celebrated Denzel Washington film Training Day. Unfortunately, the show's mediocre reviews and ratings haven't done much to place it highly in the zeitgeist, and everything took a depressingly damning turn when Bill Paxton suffered a stroke and died earlier this year. Though he'd finished filming the series before his death, losing a huge star like that doesn't help Training Day's chances of surviving another season.

Frequency

Despite having only a small fraction of Netflix's budget, The CW is like the streaming giant in its manner of granting renewals to just about every show the network debuts, and those season orders usually come pretty early. But the time-travel-ish drama Frequency is one of the rare freshman series that The CW has been reluctant to do anything with (along with No Tomorrow). Though most people enjoyed the drama, adapted from the same-named 200 film, Frequency did not build up much of an audience, often pulling in less than 1 million viewers during its airings. One would hope for at least a wrap-up episode for this one, given the way Season 1 ended.

There are, of course, other shows that are in danger of dying out on the chopping block, and you can be sure we'll let you know when those chops happen. The line between TV and film continues to blur with each passing year. Much of this has to do with the increasing sophistication of televised storytelling, but we mustn't forget the contribution of proper special effects in this equation as well. CGI used to be something almost exclusively reserved for the highest tech and advanced Hollywood blockbusters, but now even the most seemingly mundane TV dramas can use it to great effect.

That said, not every TV show manages to use CGI successfully. Even some seriously prestigious series have incorporated downright terrible special effects over the course of the last few years, and that's what we're here to focus on. We've compiled a list of awful CGI moments from some genuinely great TV series...and others. Check out our list, and let us know what you think of this laughably bad use of the filmmaking technology. We have plenty of examples to get to, so let's kick this list off with a superhero who has actually benefited greatly from advances in special effects in recent years.

The Flash's Speedster Fights

The Scarlet Speedster's series on The CW deserves a ton of credit for the fact that it makes The Flash seem like a real hero. Many of the CGI effects used on The Flash are great, but the slow-motion speedster fights are just downright awful. The show hasn't found a way to make Barry Allen NOT look like a man-shaped balloon while he tumbles against his enemies in slow motion, and it's one of the few areas where The Flash has consistently faltered in delivering strong special effects. How they made King Shark look better than the central hero, I will never know.

The Walking Dead's Deer

Though its walker-flavored gore and splatter are always top notch, AMC's The Walking Dead has showcased a few key examples of some pretty bad visual effects over the course of its seven seasons on the air. Arguably the most egregious and Twitter-inflaming example of bad CGI on the zombie series occurred during Season 7 when Rick Grimes came across a comically bad computer-generated deer while within a rundown carnival. It's a particularly bizarre moment for the series when we consider the fact that The Walking Dead has a long history of incorporating real animals and practical effects into these types of shots; I guess they just couldn't swing those deer handler fees.

Terra Nova's Dinos

When your entire series is predicated on the depiction of awesome prehistoric creatures, you better make damn sure that your dinosaurs look flawless. Sadly for Terra Nova, that simply wasn't the case. The short-lived sci-fi series framed itself with a uniquely engaging premise involving humanity colonizing the past in order to escape a dying future, but it was ultimately held back in part by the downright terrible computer effects that were used to create the show's central monsters. Stephen Spielberg may have innovated CGI dinosaurs with the original Jurassic Park, but these Fox-originated creatures clearly were not ready for the size and scale that a TV budget offers filmmakers.

Supernatural's Leviathan Monsters

Sam and Dean Winchester have faced off against a wide variety of demonic cretaures throughout their twelve seasons on the air. While most of these craetures have generally looked pretty good in their various incarnations, one particular type of monster stands out for being pretty awful looking: the Leviathan monsters introduced during Season 7. Although the basic pitch behind the overall creature design is a fairly interesting and cool concept, the execution of the Leviathan design leaves quite a bit to be desired. The effects involved in creating these "Chompers" is comically bad, and it really has the effect of taking the audience out of a moment that should be scary. Remember The Langoliers TV movie?

Ringer's Boat Scene

Ringer wasn't the most well-received show when it debuted back in 2011, and the mediocre reception ultimately led to a limited life span. However, the show's single season on the air did manage to give us one of the worst modern examples of green screen in recent history. The sequence in question is supposed to see two of the show's characters out on a boat staring over the water at the horizon. Instead, the entire scene looks like it was entirely shot indoors (because it was) and the plainly obvious green screen effect has gone on to become one of Ringer's most enduring legacies.

*Once Upon A Time's Creatures *

Once Upon A Time has easily become one of ABC's most popular shows for its inventive take on classic fairy tales and Disney stories. However, while the show is fun and thrives on its whimsical premise, that doesn't change the fact that it has consistently used some pretty poor CGI to create many of its characters and monsters since 2011. One could make a fairly easy argument that the clearly fake creatures (such as the above dragon) add to the overall charm of the series, but we simply have to include Once Upon A Time on this list for its lofty ambitions and its poor execution.

Pretty Little Liars' Capitol

Of all the entries on this list, this one stands out simply because of how wholly unnecessary it was. During a particularly notable scene during the Season 6 midseason premiere of the series, Spencer Hasting sits down on a bench outside of the U.S. Capitol in D.C.. Rather than film on location, Pretty Little Liars opted to use a green screen to project the iconic building behind the character. As you can very clearly tell from that photo: it didn't work. The shot received the ire of fans almost immediately, and viewers even demanded that the series reshoot the scene in order to fix it for future audiences.

The Entire Sharknado Franchise

Last but not least, we come to the king of all bad TV CGI: the endearingly terrible Sharknado franchise. Over the course of the entire made-for-TV series, the Sharknado films have lived and died by terrible special effects that don't even come close to portraying real sharks or real massacres. That said, unlike the rest of the entries on this list, it's pretty clear that the Sharknado TV films aren't trying to convince you that the sharks are real. They look like they're rendered for the graphics on a Playstation 2, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Never change, Sharknado; we love you for this.

Well, ABC's Once Upon a Time is finally making full use of its stable of fairy tale characters by having many of them burst into song during the show's first ever musical episode. Now, we finally have some details on what fans can expect from the tuneful experience. It looks like the first thing to be glad of is that this won't be a random episode that has nothing to do with what the characters are going through by the time the musical comes around. According to executive producer Edward Kitsis:

While it might be kind of nice to take a bit of a break from the intensity of the action that's currently going down on Once Upon a Time, it's good to know that the musical episode, which is expected to air sometime in the spring, will continue to drive the action of the show forward and actually help set up the finale. I'm sure a stand alone episode would have been fun, but it probably would have been more work than it was worth to craft an entire episode that had nothing to do with the overarching plots that we've seen so far this season. It would be akin to creating a show within the show, and probably would have led to the audience watching events that took place in a dream or hallucination sequence, and, really, at this point what's the fun of that?

Edward Kitsis also told Entertainment Weekly that we'll be treated to something special when it comes to not only the songs they have prepared for the episode, but in who'll be doing the singing, as well.

Man, that sounds cool, doesn't it? A lot of the main cast has experience with music, including Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin, so it's almost a given that they'll be breaking into song, but it also seems like we should expect to hear from a wide variety of characters during the musical. The report from Entertainment Weekly notes that most of the main cast will perform more than one song and that characters such as Granny, Grumpy, Gepetto and Henry will be warming up their pipes for this event, as well. In addition, executive producer Adam Horowitz wants to make sure that everyone knows that the show is planning some surprises:

Well, I don't know how the show could make breaking into song any more fun than it already is, but I bet they found a way. Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8/7 CST on ABC.

With the second half of Season 6 of ABC's Once Upon A Time underway, fans may already be wondering what the odds are for a Season 7 of the series. If you've been following the behind the scenes talk, there could be some cause for concern, but right now nothing is known for sure. A lot of what happens for Once Upon A Time going forward will fall on these upcoming contract negotiations for a handful of key actors to the series.

Right now, Once Upon A Time is currently working on negotiations with Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan), Lana Parilla (Regina), Robert Carlisle (Mr. Gold), and Colin O'Donoghue (Hook) for a potential Season 7. As TVLine points out, three out of those four have been with the series since its premiere and Donoghue hopped on in Season 2. In addition to that, Ginnifer Goodwin (Mary), Josh Dallas (David), Emilie de Ravin (Belle) and Jared Gilmore (Henry) all have expiring contracts as well. So why aren't they working with everyone to make sure we see a Season 7?

Apparently, the decision falls on creative and not money. Once Upon A Time will introduce two new characters to the series, Andrew West and Alison Fernandez, and is reportedly undergoing a reset for Season 7. While nothing has been officially confirmed, it would appear some of these contract renewals will lead to what decision Once Upon A Time and ABC have come to sooner than later. Could a casting shakeup bring in fresh or returning eyes to the series?

It's no secret that Once Upon A Time has waned in its popularity with each successive season. The latest episode of the series hit an all-time low of just 3 million viewers, and a .9 rating share. Those Season 6 viewership numbers are still beating out competitors like The Simpsons who are in the same time slot, but in terms of the demographic rating share, they're dead last. It's a far cry from the days where the series was netting around 9-11 million viewers just three seasons ago, something that I'm sure ABC would love to have back. The current leading show in that Sunday time slot is the new Steve Harvey led Little Big Shots which is currently pulling in the same types of numbers Once Upon A Time saw at its first season. Even with a casting shake-up and new story, it would be a tall order for the series to gain back an audience that large.

Even so, ABC seems content on working towards a Season 7 of Once Upon A Time provided all these contracts work out. No reason to worry too much as we wait for word one way or another, but we can assume you'll have an answer soon as to whether the series will officially return or not. Few things go together quite like fairy tales and musicals. They're like peanut butter and jelly -- a match made in heaven. Those of us who grew up with classic Disney stories have often seen this, and fans of ABC's Once Upon A Time have waited quite some time to see their favorite characters carry a delightful tune. Now it appears that the wait may soon be over, as new rumors seem to suggest that the creative forces behind Once Upon A Time are currently planning a musical episode.

A report from TVLine suggests the distinct possibility that ABC's Once Upon A Time is now planning a musical episode. Although the network has not officially commented on whether or not there's truth to such plans, it is rumored that such an episode is definitely in the works and actors in the series have already started vocal preparations. Several people associated with the drama have voiced their desire to do a musical episode in previous years, so the rumors certainly seem credible enough right now.

Although the rumors indicate that Once Upon A Time will likely do a musical episode in the near future, they don't specify which characters will belt out any tunes. Given the large series' cast and the wide variety of fairy tale-themed characters, there are a large number of options at this point.

The fact that musical episodes have not factored more prominently in Once Upon A Time's run on ABC is somewhat surprising. As the series is specifically tailored to adapt classic fairy tales -- many of which have already received musical Disney adaptations -- it seems like the perfect venue for such a gimmick. Better late than never, I suppose.

That said, it's not necessarily surprising that Once Upon A Time has possibly started to consider a musical episode. Other networks and other series have certainly picked up on the idea in recent years, as well. In particular, it's worth noting that the upcoming crossover between The Flash and Supergirl will be a musical outing -- which makes sense when we consider the number of musical talents present within the casts of both series. However, the fact that Once Upon A Time may feature a musical episode seems especially notable because the core premise of the show naturally lends itself to that storytelling device. It doesn't get more whimsical than fairy tale characters singing, does it?

With one exception, the Sunday night lineup on ABC is a ratings mess. A day ago, I wouldn't have even said one exception, but ABC's fantasy drama Once Upon A Time has shown a remarkable ability to hang on to audiences and ticked up this week after a few weeks of falls in the ratings. As for the rest of ABC's Sunday night lineup, things aren't looking so great. In fact, you might call dramas Secrets and Lies and Quantico disasters.

Sunday night is a big night for television. On some networks it's a huge night, and we routinely see numbers above a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which are the numbers advertisers often use to decide who to advertise with. In years past, ABC has had a pretty solid lineup on Sunday nights, but this year---and especially this week--the wheels have come off. Reports indicate that both Secrets and Lies and Quantico both pulled extremely low numbers on Sunday night. Secrets and Lies nabbed 2.8 million total viewers in the 9 p.m. slot, with Variety noting it did a .6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Quantico was similarly low, bringing in 2.2 million total viewers and a .6 rating at 10 p.m.

Those numbers are, plainly put, not very good. They are also a far cry from the numbers both shows were doing during the first season they were on the air. Quantico's first season average a 1.2 rating, and its lowest rated episode during Season 1 still nabbed a .9 rating. Secrets and Lies did even better, averaging a 1.5 rating, which the lowest rated episode coming in at a 1.3. The problem the latter is having is that ABC kept Secrets and Lies off of the schedule for all of last season while it tried to find the right timeslot. The problem with Quantico is that it had a fascinating premise during its first season, but during Season 2 the plot has been even more convoluted, and Alex Parrish's new gig training with the CIA has meant a lot of the cast we liked from the first season has been sidelined in favor of new characters.

What's sort-of crazy to consider about these numbers is that two springs ago, ABC decided to cancel its soapy drama Revenge thanks to low ratings. During that season, Revenge averaged a 1.1 rating and saw plenty of episodes with higher numbers than that. Now, two of ABC's Sunday night shows are pulling ratings as low as .6---and we're not even into spring, yet, when show's traditionally see lower numbers. It should be noted that Once Upon A Time has also fallen in the ratings in the seasons since Revenge ended, which doesn't totally help the lead-in. But still, a .6 is the same sort of number that Supernatural is pulling in on a much smaller network and in its twelfth season.

Fox frequently does similar numbers on Sunday nights in terms of total viewers, but the mostly animated Sunday night lineup does a lot of younger viewers, despite having a program that's more than a quarter century old in its lineup (The Simpsons if you aren't keeping up). This translates into way higher ratings, including a 1.4 rating for the most recent Simpsons episode and means those programs are less likely to get cancelled than something on ABC. The only good news is that we know Quantico quietly pulls in big DVR ratings, making it a bigger hit than these initial numbers would suggest.

Considering the network has done well with a lot of new programs this fall, the numbers the network's Sunday night lineup are pulling in do not hold up in comparison to other nights.
