The end is near for the Pogues. As the new year kicks off, Outer Banks’ fifth and final season is preparing to premiere on Netflix's 2026 schedule. It has been quite the roller coaster for the cast, crew, and fans of the hit, which debuted in 2019. Now, as production wrapped, Chase Stokes opened up about the cast being ready for the show to end, and I really feel this.

Stokes has portrayed John B. Routledge since the very beginning, and he is preparing to finally end the journey. Filming recently wrapped on the final season, which apparently will feel like Season 1, according to his co-star, Madelyn Cline. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye, especially while facing nostalgic vibes, but Stokes told People that while he and the cast are “thankful for the run,” they are “ready for it to be done” due to the story. He explained:

It makes sense. It’s better for the show to go out on a high note rather than dragging on for too long, especially since Outer Banks has always been telling an extreme and action-packed story. Also, especially in this day and age, it’s rare for a series to go out on its own terms and be able to tell a story in full, so OBX getting that privilege certainly means a lot.

The wait for Outer Banks Season 5 has been a long one. Season 4 was released in late 2024, and it was renewed for its final season around that time. It was later revealed that the season wouldn’t be coming until 2026, so at the very least, fans have been able to prepare for the Pogues’ final outing for quite some time. But even with the show ending on its own terms, it doesn’t make saying goodbye easier.

As for what could possibly happen in this final season, Outer Banks is unpredictable, and fans are probably still hurting over the death of Rudy Pankow’s JJ. There are plenty of theories floating around, centering on avenging JJ and new group dynamics, as well as a possible time jump. Unfortunately, a premiere date for Season 5 has not yet been announced, so fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see if their theories come to fruition. However, I'm sure the wait will be worth it.

It can be assumed that Stokes and the rest of the Outer Banks cast will be sharing some pretty sentimental posts once the final season premieres, which will make all this even more real. For now, the first four seasons can be streamed with a Netflix subscription, with Season 5 coming to the streaming giant at some point this year.

The best teen drama series have sustained in pop culture in part because of all the hormonal drama inherently built into that age demographic. (See: Riverdale's quad relationship.) Apparently, it's not uncommon for young stars' behind-the-scenes hijinks to resemble their onscreen counterparts. At least that's how it went down for Riverdale and Outer Banks stars KJ Apa and Madelyn Cline, who discussed the reality of co-stars making connections.

The co-stars of The Map That Leads to You (available with a Prime subscription) got honest about working on their respective hit shows, specifically talking to EW about how typical it is for these young casts to get close and, in turn, find themselves in complex situations on set. The I Know What You Did Last summer actress cheekily equated it to finding familial levels of closeness, saying:

• MADELYN CLINE: It's like a family, you know what I mean? You spend so much time with [them].
• KJ APA: It's like the family you never asked for. It's true, it's true — in a beautiful way.

I’m sure that kind of bond sprouts quickly for anyone spending as much time on set as it takes to bring a TV show together, and that closeness hopefully only grows the more episodes and seasons there are. The One Fast Move actor humorously but earnestly backed up Cline’s statement, with notes that even amongst the chaos, the connections are worth it.

The 27-year-old doubled down on her family metaphor, noting all the ins and outs of working with other young actors, with Apa capping off the lol-worthy BTS hookup conversation as humorously as it started by directly addressing the elephants making out in the room, metaphorically speaking.

• CLINE: You can't really ever ask for family, that's the whole point. So it really is like family, and of course, you spend that much time with people, and you love them, and—
• APA: You hook up with them. People hook up with each other.

It sounds like such a rollercoaster to be on a teen hit, having so much grey area. Of course there have been a handful of co-stars who dated in real life, including Madelyn Cline dating OB actor Chase Banks. But even a public relationship doesn’t come without its turmoil, fortunately for her, their romance ended amicably. As for KJ Apa, he had no official ties to any Riverdale peers while on air (but he alluded heavily to having hooked up with some).

Today, it seems that for both Apa and Cline, they are out of the thick of their YA dramas on screen and off (OB is likely to release in 2026 and currently filming). Hopefully future young stars take note from shows like Riverdale and Outer Banks that things can get messy fast among peers. Catch both staple shows with a Netflix subscription.

While I expected to enjoy the film – and I did – I was shocked by the odd and prominent parallel it shared with the aforementioned Netflix megahit.

In the book-to-screen adaptation of JP Monninger’s The Map that Leads to You, Madelyn Cline plays Heather, a girl who is taking a European vacation right before she starts her job in the big city. While on a train from one destination to another, she meets Jack (KJ Apa), a man who is traveling to the destinations his grandfather wrote about in his journal.

As they bond, they decide to travel together, and they wind up in some wild a wistful situations. However, Jack is sick, and he hasn’t told Heather that. So, their perfect trip ends in a very sad way. Love prevails, though, and the two wind up adventuring together again by the end of the film.

While Heather is 100% different from Cline’s OBX character, Sarah, the men they choose to follow and the circumstances that they find themselves in because of said boys are…weirdly…similar, as we’re about to discuss.

In Outer Banks, Madelyn Cline’s Character Follows A Guy Who Is On A Quest That’s Inspired By His Father’s Work

So, remember that quest Jack was on? Well, in Outer Banks, John B. (Chase Stokes), Sarah’s love, has also been on a quest. And when she met him, he was specifically using his (presumed) dead dad’s work to find treasure.

Generally speaking, I find it weird that John B. and Jack are both on these intense journeys that are inspired by dead or thought-to-be dead relatives. They’re both motivated to a fault to succeed in these expeditions, and it winds up leaving them each with tunnel vision that Cline’s characters have to deal with.

Obviously, Jack does not drag Heather into the near-death situations John B. and Sarah find themselves in constantly on Outer Banks. Meanwhile, John B. is not harboring a secret illness like Jack is.

However, it’s really hard to deny the wild similarities between the men Cline’s characters decide to follow. Like, what are the odds that she does two projects where her love interests are on a mission to follow in the footsteps of their late relative? Feels slim to me, however, it happened, and honestly, I’m glad it did.

I really enjoy both these projects and the adventures within them. Those adventures wouldn’t have happened if Heather and Sarah hadn’t gone on these quests with Jack and John B. Therefore, we probably wouldn’t have gotten the fun, epic and adventure-driven Map That Leads to You and Outer Banks.

We’re getting one final trip to the Outer Banks with the Pogues, and honestly, I can’t wait for it. Since day one, I’ve loved OBX and all its outlandish adventures and light-hearted energy. Now, Madelyn Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron, has opened up about Season 5 feeling kind of like Season 1, and that’s sparked a specific hope for the upcoming episodes we’ll eventually be able to watch with a Netflix subscription.

What Madelyn Cline Said About The Final Season Of Outer Banks

So, right now, Season 5 of Outer Banks is in production. Amid that, Cline is promoting her upcoming horror movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and obviously, OBX has come up during her interviews. So, when asked about the Netflix hit ending at the movie’s premiere, she told Variety:

From the jump, it’s felt like the Outer Banks cast was having a blast, and that’s the kind of energy that makes this show so fun. So, to know that they’re approaching the final episodes with the “silly and goofy” fun energy they started with brings me so much joy. However, it also sparks a specific hope.

Now, I Hope That Season 5 Of OBX Stays In The Outer Banks, Like It Did In Season 1

We all know it, and so do the actors. Outer Banks is a crazy, over-the-top, and at times ridiculous story, and that’s why I love it. I love that John B. has almost died so many times, and I can’t get over how the OBX cast calls out the show's gaps in logic and inconsistencies. I want a soapy, fun and occasionally off-the-rails show to binge in the summer, and this show offers just that.

However, I want them to localize the story a bit, and not go as big as they have in Seasons 3 and 4, specifically. I want Season 5, like Season 1, to be set primarily in the Outer Banks. I want to see Kook and Pogue warfare. I want to see Poguelandia in all its finest. And if they travel, I want it to be just to places like Charleston or Chapel Hill.

I think not having the show end in some far-off location would be very full circle. And I think it’d be super meaningful for the full adventure of this final outing to take place in the titular setting.

Seeing the Pogues bop around the Outer Banks in Season 1 was incredibly entertaining, and I love it when the show puts the action in their home. That’s because our crew knows this place so well that they can use it to their advantage. So, seeing them outsmart big bads by knowing where to go with their boat or watching them drive crazily through the side streets of their hometown is endlessly amusing, and in my opinion, more fun than them going to a new location.

So, let’s show off all the Outer Banks and soak it in all the sepia for this final outing.

Listen, we all know that Outer Banks is known and loved for its over-the-top adventures, action that leads to John B. and his friends almost dying all the time and epic romances. So, sometimes, things can get very soapy or out of hand in terms of logic. However, the cast and fans know and love that about the show, as Madelyn Cline and some of her co-stars proved by hilariously calling out their favorite continuity errors and plot holes in the Netflix hit.

In celebration of OBX Season 5 being the final installment of the show, Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron, hopped on TikTok to interact with fans. She decided to ask them all what their favorite “continuity errors or plot holes” were in the show, before revealing her answer to the question:

In the text laid over the video, which you can see above, Cline also noted that Chapel Hill is in the middle of North Carolina, it’s landlocked, and you cannot take a ferry there. Therefore, that iconic ferry trip Sarah and John B. take in Season 1 (which you can stream with a Netflix subscription) would not be possible. However, it certainly is fun.

Now, I knew the Outer Banks cast was down to clown about things like this. Back when Season 3 came out, they all took my question about when they really would have tapped out of this ongoing treasure hunt in stride and with a good sense of humor. However, they proved that fun mentality again in Cline’s comments, as Kiara actress Madison Bailey wrote:

That’s such a good point! The use of technology in this show is sporadic. However, these kids do seem like the types to forget or lose their phones, so maybe that’s what was going on. Overall, though, I love Bailey’s favorite plot hole.

Carlacia Grant, who plays Cleo, also weighed in on this topic, writing:

Literally, that’s such a fair point. The Outer Banks and Morocco are literally on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, so stopping for gas once seems unlikely. However, with some TV magic, it was possible.

Personally, when it comes to potential plot holes and continuity errors, I'm a big fan of how quickly the characters snap back from a serious injury. Like the fact that John B. was pushed off a very tall watch tower in Season 1 and only broke his wrist and had a concussion is great stuff.

Overall, I’m obsessed with these admissions from the cast, and I love how much fun they have with this wildly entertaining show, plot holes and all.

Honestly, this whole discussion makes me even more excited for Season 5, because if there’s one thing we know about Outer Banks, it’s gonna be wild, occasionally defy logic, and be extremely fun and entertaining. And you know what, I’m here for the ride, no matter how illogical this binge-worthy Netflix show might get.

Marissa Cooper - The O.C.

You could probably make a case for most of The O.C. kids, but Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) undoubtedly tops them all. Coop’s undoing was a monolith and started on the wings of her parents' divorce. It led to underage drinking, tumultuous relationships, petty theft, and eventually to her passing away after a car crash at the end of Season 3.

Danny Zuko - Grease

Like many other ensembles, you could make a pick mostly anyone from the Grease cast, but Danny Zuko's (John Travolta) issues bled into everyone else’s. Not to mention, he strung Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) along until the very end of the movie.

Serena van der Woodsen - Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is another show where you could argue a good case for any of the characters being the biggest saboteur. But like Marissa Cooper, Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) just can’t shake off trouble in most things she does. The thought of old her and Georgina Sparks together really sounds like they’d top the list together.

Veronica Sawyer - Heathers

Heathers and Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) were ahead of the curve. When awkward loner Veronica gets invited to join the school’s most popular group, she quickly realizes it’s not the place for her. After befriending new kid Jason Dean (Christian Slater), they accidentally kill one of the Heathers. This sets off an entire killing spree that wreaks havoc on Westerburg High School.

Dawson Leery - Dawson’s Creek

Even though he may have been seen more as a golden boy during his reign, Dawson (James Van Der Beek) caused some major damage in his day. We literally have a separate list showcasing all the times Leery was the worst character for his loved ones to be around. If he'd only been supportive of Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) going to Paris, who knows what could've been?

Cady Heron - Mean Girls

Tina Fey’s wildly quotable Mean Girls needs no introduction or explanation. With Cady (Lindsay Lohan) coming to terms with attending a public high school in the US after growing up in Africa, she is a poster child for this list. As she explores her new reality, she gets lost for a moment amid girl world drama, which leads to multiple friend, family, and relationship troubles.

Rue Bennet - Euphoria

The Max ‘teen’ jewel-encrusted drama juggernaut holds another ensemble of lost and morose students. However, Rue Bennet (Zendaya) and her substance abuse issues are the focal point. It's upended friendships, caused familial stresses, multiple times over, causing Rue to lie, steal and hurt everyone in the East Highlanders.

Chris Hargensen - Carrie

Stephen King’s Carrie is another classic high school staple that helped push the envelope on what fictional teen worlds could hold. Popular girl and bully, Chris Hargensen (Nancy Allen) makes Carrie’s (Sissy Spacek) life a living nightmare. Hargensen continues down a downward spiral that leads to the bone-chilling but iconic prank that happens at the dance (which has some truly grim consequences).

Tim Riggins - Friday Night Lights

If you know anything about this NBC network TV classic, you either love or hate Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch). While he was a regular womanizer, heavy partier, not to mention that he sabotaged himself and the team with some regularity, he straightened up.

Dallas ‘Dally’ Winston - The Outsiders

Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Outsiders is a quintessential coming-of-age story. Even though the whole gang is rough and tumble, along with any of the ‘Socs,’ Dally (Matt Dillon) is the most troubled. With an already tumultuous background, Johnny’s death sends him on to make poor decisions for himself and his friends.

Cory Matthews - Boy Meets World

Surprising, I know. The more classic choice from Boy Meets World may be Shawn Hunter, but Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) sparked plenty of trouble in his time (like fellow do-gooder, Dawson Leery). Throughout the 7 seasons, he caused more rifts between his family, friends and Topanga than anyone else.

Billy Loomis & Stu Macher - Scream

Naturally, any teen in any scary movie generally has some baggage that leads to strife in one way or another. Youths like Billy (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu (Matthew Lillard) are different, though, they are intentionally motivated to terrify and harm their fellow classmates and the people of Woodsboro. Unfortunately for them, their plans backfire on them gravely.

Lucas Scott - One Tree Hill

Like the aforementioned teen network drama shows of the mid and late ‘00s, any character is up for debate. Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), the main protagonist, puts on a good show of commotion for everyone in his life. Being a serial heartbreaker while being unloyal and manipulative to others lands him this particular title.

Jennifer Check - Jennifer’s Body

Jennifer’s Body, again, isn’t filled with average adolescents, and especially not Jennifer (Megan Fox). While she and longtime friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried) head out for a semi-average night of Jennifer-approved fun, all goes awry. We find out that Jennifer has turned into a demon feasting on the male teens of Devil’s Kettle, WY. After the friends face off, Needy gets pinned for the murders and gets taken to an insane asylum.

Rachel Berry - Glee

The destined-for-greatness Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) typically stopped at nothing to get what she wanted, regardless of the consequences. While the fictional NYADA darling had moments of hope and promise, her ego and ambition always seemed to cause more harm than good. (Any Ryan Murphy-created teen could do, though.)

Seth - Superbad

The 2007 classic was the first Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg project, and it immediately put them on the map. The semi-biographical Superbad revolves around characters with the same names and pretty typical senior tropes. Of the fictional duo Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera), and their pal, Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), the first of the trio creates the most trouble for their celebratory evening. While the trio make up, along with the girls (Emma Stone, Martha MacIsaac), before graduation.

Rory Gilmore - Gilmore Girls

“Why did you drop out of Yale?” Even though Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) is one of the more unusual fictional high schoolers on the list, her dropping out was monumental for the world of Gilmore Girls. Even Lauren Graham didn’t like the storyline because of the turmoil it created between Lorelai and Rory. Not to mention, her sleeping with Dean, missing Lorelai's graduation and later on, being more lost than ever in her 30s.

Donnie - Donnie Darko

Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) isn’t your typical troublesome, drama-filled teen, even though his choices in one reality lead to serious consequences. His present ED signifiers (Emotional Disturbance) present Donnie as something else, but we eventually come to realize he's an anti-hero of sorts. As he comes to realize that there are multiple timelines at play, he chooses to fix it to save Gretchen Ross' (Jena Malone) life. And with his developed powers, he returns to the day when it all went awry, which leads to his destiny--death.

Archie Andrews - Riverdale

Archie of The CW’s Riverdale was one of the many, much darker TV reboots out there. And though all the drama has always hinged on the red-headed football hero regardless of genre, the TV show really packs Archie with a punch. To be fair, he also found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time quite frequently–it’s how he reacted to them that gives him the top spot for the searching students of Riverdale High.

Kathryn Merteuil & Sebastian Valmont - Cruel Intentions

Another young and terrifying twosome is Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Philippe). The oddball step-siblings wager a bet that involves innocent and new Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon). Through the scheme, the group of students is faced with continuing drama until a very sad end.

Valerie Malone - Beverly Hills, 90210

Though there was plenty of actual drama on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210, Valerie Malone (Tiffani Thiessen) wasted no time sowing seeds of chaos. Arriving in Season 5 with a lot of baggage in the form of family trauma, Malone was immediately set up to be in trouble. She dated many of the guys and regularly feuded with the girls.

Max Fischer - Rushmore

As one of the many stylized Wes Anderson films, Rushmore was one of his earliest. Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman) is a love-drunk student determined to date his teacher and will stop at nothing to achieve it. After an array of mishaps and his fellow acquaintance, Blume (Bill Murray), hitting it off with her, Max loses it. He leaked the affair publicly and temporarily burned bridges with both of them.

Willow Rosenberg - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Willow’s (Alyson Hannigan) rise to raising hell for Buffy and co. may be a slow burn, but once she hits it, things get wild. While her use of telepathy, manipulation and struggling to keep her magic in check kick off the season, Tara’s death sets Willow into overdrive in trying to destroy the world.

PJ & Josie - Bottoms

Gen Z coming-of-age comedies come in all shapes and sizes, including Emma Seligman’s Bottoms. The satirical take on the high school experience is wild, especially with PJ (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri). The BFF’s hatch a fight club for girls so they can talk to cheerleaders they have crushes on. Needless to say, a lot of drama goes down, including a car blowing up.

Mona Vanderwaal - Pretty Little Liars

Honestly, most characters from the 2010 series have a fair shot here. But Mona (Janel Parrish) is the reason for all of the mystery and torment. She is who sparks the series because of her grudge against the main friend group. Eventually, she becomes one of them, and even more trouble ensues.

Laura Palmer - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

In my opinion, there’s no list about misguided high schoolers complete without Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). The character was cemented into pop culture in David Lynch’s cult show, Twin Peaks, but the less popular prequel movie shows her tragic undoing. Her last days are filled with traumas relating to her drug addiction, web of lies and darker spirits. Warning, this movie isn't for the faint of heart.

DeGrassi: The Next Generation

DeGrassi: The Next Generation is maybe the only title on the list in which each character is as chaotic and troubled as the last. The iconic Canadian teen soap has multiple iterations, but the 2002-2015 series takes the cake. Between the students, they have every classic dramatic HS storyline in the book, and alumni Drake’s “I’m Upset” reunion-filled music video summarizes some key points.

Nancy Downs - The Craft

The quartet of girls in The Craft start as lost as the next, but Nancy’s (Fairuza Balk) power-hungry ways destroy what they have together. After quiet Sarah Bailey (Robin Tunney) moves to town and gets wronged, Downs and her pals take her in. All four hatch a scheme to cast a spell on the wrongdoer, and when it succeeds, that’s when Nancy starts sabotaging everything.

John B - Outer Banks

Netflix’s Outer Banks is one wild ride with wayward John B (Chase Stokes) at the helm. Sure, other characters may be outwardly more troubled (JJ, Sarah or Rafe), but everyone’s lives intensified because of John B’s initial treasure hunt.

Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson - Lady Bird

As one of the more subtle teenage pot stirrers, Ladybird (Saoirse Ronan) still makes her presence and opinions unmistakably clear. Her main sources of conflict reside within her relationship with her hardworking mom (Laurie Metcalf) and nerdy best friend (Beanie Feldstein). While Lady Bird temporarily burns bridges with both in pursuit of greater life expectations and new friends, she mends things with both.

Effy Stonem - Skins UK

A cult classic that ran from 2007-2013 and largely featured the rebellious but lost Effy Stonem (Kaya Scodelario). From the jump, we see 14-year-old her sneaking home in the early morning after being out all night at a rave. Needless to say, Effy’s journey was a bumpy one filled with substance abuse, mental health crises, and a web of lies.

Netflix is gearing up for a massive year with Stranger Things, Wednesday, and Squid Games all returning to the streamer for the 2025 TV schedule. Unfortunately, not all Netflix subscribers will be celebrating the lineup today, as many wildly popular shows won’t be returning until 2026 at the absolute earliest.

The news of what’s not coming back this year isn’t too surprising since many of the shows premiered late in the 2024 season, leaving little time for filming to start for a 2025 premiere. However, it’s still disappointing news, especially for shows with more active fanbases like Outer Banks.

I Guess I’ll Have To Keep Thinking About My Outer Banks Theory

As an avid Outer Banks fan, I was definitely bummed to learn that Season 5 won’t be making the 2025 Netflix lineup. It was a long shot since the renewal for the fifth and final season came in early November, but I still had hope the team behind the show could work some Hollywood magic and give fans the happy ending we so desperately deserve after the tragic Season 4 ending.

I guess I’ll have to wait longer to see if my theory that the Pogues are going to have second thoughts about trying to avenge JJ pans out. It's not all bad news, though. At the very least, I have more time to wrap my head around my theory that the writers are going to use JJ’s absence to make Kiara and Rafe endgame and become one of the best couples on the show — something that has been debated amongst fans since the show first hit Netflix back in 2020.

Other Netflix Shows Not Hitting The Schedule Until 2026

Outer Banks isn’t the only hit series missing from Netflix’s upcoming release schedule. Bridgerton fans are going to have to practice their patience, as Benedict’s chapter won’t be coming this year. Despite the popularity of the Regency-era show, showrunners are sticking firmly to the timeline they’ve established with the first three seasons, which had fans waiting about two years between Seasons 2 and 3.

It looks like fans of the anime-turned-live-action hit ONE PIECE will also be stuck waiting for the second installment of the fantasy adventure series. Season 1 dropped back in August 2023, but production didn’t begin on the second season until a year later, despite getting renewed in September 2023.

Ali Wong’s led Beef is another 2023 series that won’t be getting its second installment until 2026. Fans of the Emmy-winning limited or anthology series might be the most patient of all, considering the show didn’t officially get renewed for a second season until a year and a half after its initial release.

With Netflix raising the prices of subscriptions again, fans of these shows might consider canceling their subscription until 2026. However, that might not be the smartest of decisions, given how packed the 2025 lineup is. Plus, dates are always up in the air. There’s always a chance something slated for 2026 might wrap early and find itself on the back half of the 2025 lineup, so it's best to keep those subscriptions up to date.

Drew Starkey has developed quite the fanbase because of his role in Outer Banks, and now he’s breaking even bigger by starring alongside Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino's Queer. Now, with both Season 4 of OBX airing on the 2024 TV schedule and this new film premiering among 2024’s movie releases, the two worlds have collided. However, this isn’t the first time Outer Banks and Daniel Craig projects have crossed over, and the Rafe actor made a hilarious point about it.

Undoubtedly, the project Drew Starkey is best known for is Outer Banks. So, during an interview with MTV about Queer’s release, he was asked if he clued Daniel Craig into the world of the Pogues seeing as OBX is one of Netflix’s most binge-able shows. He didn’t do that, however, the actor did note that the James Bond performer has worked with another cast member from the series, hilariously explaining:

I must say, I’m very here for this master plan, and I hope Craig’s streak of working with the Outer Banks cast continues!

For a bit of context about all these connections, Drew Starkey, who stars in Queer with Craig plays Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks. In the Netflix series, Starkey's on-screen sister, Sarah Cameron, is played by Madelyn Cline, who was in Glass Onion with the Benoit Blanc performer.

I could totally see actors like Chase Stokes (who is in the above image with Cline and Starkey) or other OBX standouts like Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss or Carlacia Grant starring in a film alongside Daniel Craig. I think The Other Zoey actor was onto something with his silly Pokémon connection, and I really hope his Queer co-star gets more than two OBX cards, if you are picking up what I'm putting down.

Obviously, the easiest way for this to happen is for the Outer Banks actors to take the path Cline took, and become part of a cast like Glass Onion. Rian Johnson has a knack for building an ensemble full of massive names and up-and-coming stars, and I could 100% see any of these OBX actors (including Starkey) as part of a Knives Out mystery.

It’s unclear how many more movies like this Johnson and Craig will make. However, considering their latest whodunnit, Wake Up Dead Man, is on the 2025 movie schedule and they’re still thrilled about these stories, I could see them making many more. Therefore, there’s time for the rest of the Outer Banks ensemble to join.

However, maybe they can take the path Starkey took too, and hop on a Daniel Craig project that is a bit smaller and wilder like Queer. The film from Luca Guadagnino follows two men as they fall for each other, and the wild journey they go on after their first meeting. Like the director’s other films, it's steamy, sexy and dramatic, and really shows off Drew Starkey’s talents.

So, there’s a lot of potential for this streak, and as a fan of Outer Banks and all the Daniel Craig movies mentioned here, I hope he continues to work with young actors like Drew Starkey and Madelyn Cline.

Deaths on Outer Banks for the main characters don’t always stick. John B. has escaped death more times than one person should be allowed. Sarah flatlined after being shot and was miraculously brought back to life. And don’t even get me started on Ward Cameron, who faked his own death in the early seasons of the hit Netflix teen drama before meeting his demise at the end of OBX Season 3. Given the show’s history, it makes sense that fans immediately started sharing theories about how Season 5 could resurrect JJ after he was killed at the end of Season 4, Volume 2. However, unfortunately, all those clever theories seem to be dead, too.

After the official Outer Banks social media account shared a video of the cast saying their goodbyes to the actor/character while Rudy Pankow (who plays JJ) reflected on what the characters have meant to him over the years, the fans couldn't stop the emotions from flowing in the comments.

While the video is a nice send-off for Pankow, who is presumably not returning for the confirmed fifth and final season of the show, it’s a total gut punch to fans who were holding out hope that the creators were going to find a way to bring JJ back to life.

Fans over on Instagram were a little nicer. Instead of shouting at the show for the questionable plot twist, they voiced their grief more softly. While they blamed the series for all the tears they’ve cried, they also praised Pankow and his portrayal of JJ:

In a world where so many shows have always kept the main characters safe from harm, losing JJ and, by extension, Pankow has come as quite a shock to fans. It’s not only a loss for fans, but for the show at large, given JJ was one side of a fan-favorite couple and the heart and soul of the Pogues.

His absence is going to be felt strongly in the fifth and final season. However, I, for one, am excited to see what his death will do to the rest of the Pogues, who have some big decisions to make before the credits roll for the final time.

For now, fans wanting to revisit the magic of Outer Banks and hilarious quotes from JJ can stream all four seasons with a Netflix subscription — just maybe, don’t watch Season 4, Episode 10 if you don’t feel like crying again.

Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead For Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 2!

As a massive Outer Banks fan, I knew Season 4 Volume 2 would be a wild ride when it hit Netflix's premiere schedule after Volume 1 left the Pogues in some of the worst spots they’ve ever been in. I had high hopes for the next five episodes, but sadly saw none of what I wanted to happen. Instead, the Pogues lost one of their own in one of the most tragic deaths in any teen drama series, leaving the friend group promising to seek revenge as the credits started to roll.

Even though I’m still trying to process everything that happened, my mind has already begun theorizing about what is going to happen in the already renewed Season 5.

The Pogues Are Going To Have Second Thoughts About How To Avenge JJ

After losing JJ at the hands of his birth father Groff, the Pogues and Rafe can be seen burying JJ’s body in an unmarked grave in the Moroccan desert. It’s Rafe who speaks first, telling the group that if it was his friend who was just killed, he’d get revenge on the murderer. John B and Pope agree, and the season ends with Kie promising to get revenge on Groff.

In the heat of the moment, this plan makes total sense. The Pogues are devastated by the loss, and the most logical way to get over that grief is to go after the man who caused them this pain. However, as much as they hate Groff, none of them are inherent killers.

Season 4 showed us time and time again that John B. struggles with pulling the trigger because he's apprehensive about becoming his father. And sure, Pope may have killed Lighting in the final episode, but it’s clear in the aftermath that it wasn’t a decision he felt good about, even if it meant everything to Cleo.

Kie also doesn’t have the heart of a killer, and while I think she’ll get close to killing Groff, I don’t think she’ll pull the trigger. In fact, I think JJ’s voice will appear in her head, and he’ll talk her out of it because he never wanted anyone to put their life in danger at his expense.

In the end, I don’t see the Pogues actually murdering Groff because it goes against everything they stand for. However, the same can not be said about Rafe. Given his desire to get the Pogues to trust him and his on-and-off dynamic with Kie, he could be the one to save the day by giving the Pogues what they want without making them stoop to such malevolent levels.

Without The OG Pogues, Life In Kildare Is Going To Get Worse

Tensions between the Kooks and the Pogues reached an all-time high in Kildare as the Kooks sought to rezone The Cut and make it a space for them all to live and hang out. John B and the gang might be young adults, but they’ve always been at the center of defending the Pogues and what’s rightfully theirs. With them gone for who knows how long, there is no one to stand up to the like developers to protect the land.

There’s also clearly tension between the Kooks and the police department headed by Sheriff Shoupe. With Shoupe already on thin ice concerning the town's wealthy residents, It’s likely that he is going to lose his job when they learn that he let the Pogues go instead of arresting them.

With the position open, I can see the town electing the officer who tried to shoot JJ in Episode 6 to get the Sheriff's position since he clearly sides with the Kooks. A corrupt police department and the Kooks with unchecked power sounds like a recipe for disaster.

New Group Dynamics Will Emerge As They Hunt Down Groff

With JJ gone and Sarah pregnant, the Pogues will likely see a shift in their group dynamic. While Sarah spent much of this season risking her life and her babies to get the treasure, I can’t see that trend continuing once she starts showing. John B is going to be torn between wanting to go after Groff and wanting to be there for Sarah. Ultimately, I see the best couple on the show spending much of the final season apart so that John B can seek revenge and Sarah can be safe.

It’s unlikely that the Pogues are going to want to leave Sarah alone wherever they decide it is safe enough for her to be. While Kie stepped up to protect and remind Sarah she was pregnant this season, she’s going to be too full of rage and grief to stay on the sidelines while the boys hunt down Groff. Instead, I see Cleo taking a backseat and staying back with Sarah since she’s also going to recover from a gunshot wound to her arm.

This leaves the three remaining Pogues and Rafe to seek out their revenge. I think John B, Pope, and Kie will stick together for most of the final season; Rafe is going to worm his way into the group by way of Kie since they have the most civil relationship. This will likely cause tensions between the four as they have different approaches to finding Groff and seeking revenge. Not to mention, John B and Pope might feel apprehensive of how close Kie and Rafe could grow given she was in a relationship with JJ when he died.

The Show Will End Happily With A Time Jump Years Into The Future

Whether or not the Pogues manage to track down the Blue Crown and get the wish that is promised in the artifact lore is yet to be seen. Regardless of whether they become monetarily wealthy, I do think Outer Banks will end on a happy note.

Unlike Season 3, which jumped only a few months into the future, I predict Season 5 will end with a time jump that sends us several years into the future. It might be cliche, but I think we’ll get a scene with a grown-up, John B, reading a bedtime story to his child, except he’s not reading from a book but rather telling his child about all the life-and-death adventures he went on with the Pogues. Just like his father did to him, John B. will instill a sense of adventure in his child. Maybe that will be what the rumored OBX spin-off will be about.

It’s unclear if Season 5 will show up on the 2025 TV schedule or later, but hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to see how the Pogues stories will end. For now, you can rewatch the first four seasons with a Netflix subscription.

We found out recently that we’d get one more adventure with the Pogues as it was announced that Season 5 of Outer Banks would be its last. However, this show ending does not mean the world of OBX is gone. In fact, that’s not even close to the reality of the situation, because the show’s co-creators, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, revealed that they are thinking about making a spinoff. And I know exactly which character I want to be at the center of it.

Outer Banks Could Get A Spinoff

Now that Season 4 has dropped all its episodes slated on the 2024 TV schedule, the OBX’s co-creators sat down with Deadline to discuss what went down and what’s to come. While they didn’t say much, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke did tease that Season 5 might not be the end all be all, saying:

Considering OBX is one of the biggest releases on Netflix’s 2024 schedule and it's been a hit since its first season, it’s not shocking that they want to expand the universe. On top of the show, Netflix has released mobile games and done live events based on Outer Banks too. Clearly, they’re invested in this property. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see more treasure hunts, you know? So, a spinoff is the perfect way to keep the universe alive and tell a fresh story.

However, after this comment, the EPs didn’t elaborate on the ideas they have for said spinoff. Plus, according to sources, Deadline reported that nothing is officially in the works. But, knowing that the co-creators want to do it, gives me hope.

So, with that in mind, here’s my pitch for what an Outer Banks spinoff should be about.

I Think The Spinoff Should Follow Carlacia Grant’s Cleo

I think if any Outer Banks character gets their own spinoff, it should be Cleo, and my reasoning is two-fold.

First of all, I think we’ve worked through the Pogues stories, and they just deserve a win. We know their pasts, we’ve seen them (and specifically John B.) fight for their lives for years now, and they need a break. So, I propose we follow the newest character in the crew, Cleo.

Carlacia Grant’s character from the Bahamas has such a rich past, and I want to know more about it. From diving into her history with Terrance to exploring her family in the present, the opportunities feel abundant for a Cleo spinoff.

This leads me to my second point and my more specific pitch. In the world of Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte was a lovely spinoff because it gave us a totally new story and flavor of this romantic world while also informing us more about what we’re seeing in the flagship series. With that in mind, I think a prequel about Cleo would be fabulous!

They could cast a younger actress for the main part, and flash forward to Cleo in the present to weave the stories together and really connect it to Outer Banks too.

Overall, I think there’s a rich story there, and I want to know about her adventures at sea. She’s such a strong character with so much depth that we haven’t even really tapped into yet. So, it seems obvious to me that if Outer Banks gets a spinoff, it’d make sense for it to be about Cleo.

Well, only time will tell on that front. So, for now, I’ll keep fantasizing about spinoffs, and you can check out Seasons 1 through 4 of Outer Banks with a Netflix subscription.

Outer Banks returns to the 2024 TV Schedule for Part 2 of Season 4 on November 7th, and thankfully, this won't be our last treasure hunt with the Pogues. While fans like myself were initially worried that this season would be the last after Chase Stokes shared a sappy caption and some BTS photos back in May, we don’t have to worry about saying goodbye to the gang just yet. However, as excited as I am that the hit Netflix teen drama series will be returning for a fifth and final season, I can’t help but worry about what the renewal means for the upcoming Season 4 finale.

The OBX Instagram broke the news about the renewal yesterday with a typed note from the show’s creators. This was followed shortly after by another sappy Stokes’ Instagram post, where he reflected on the life-changing experience and how excited he is to get to be John B. one last time. He ended the caption with a heartwarming message:

Naturally, fans of the series flooded the comments to celebrate the early renewal. While I admit I was also excited about the news, when the high wore off, panic started to creep in.

After all, a new season of Outer Banks probably means that the Pogues are going to face even more obstacles in the final episodes of Season 4. And you know what that means: we'll almost definitely end on a massive cliffhanger that's reminiscent of the time the crew got stranded on an island.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited that we’re going to go on more Pogue adventures. However, I was really hoping that Season 4, Part 2 would wrap this current arc up and give OBX fans what they’ve wanted for years: the Pogues getting to keep a treasure longer than a couple of months. Unfortunately, that’s probably not going to be the case anymore, given OBX’s history of extending the treasure hunt into multiple season-long arcs. But, I guess it's just not time for the Pogues to get out of the hunt yet.

The renewal news also makes me worried about the fate of some fan-favorite relationships, like JJ and Kiara's, that are already in rocky waters. After all, a new season means more conflict, and what better way to rile the character dynamics up than to break up key relationships?

Not to mention, the Pogues' fate generally feels more up in the air than ever before, given where they were left at the end of Season 4, Part 1. They can’t all get happy endings at the end of the season with a new one on the horizon, and that gives me major anxiety. I’m not saying that the OBX writers are going to kill one of them off, but I’m also not excluding that as an option either. At least we know it probably won’t be John B. since he’s used to getting himself out of life-and-death situations, and Stokes' Instagram post makes it sound like he’s for sure coming back for the final season.

It’s unclear when Season 5 of Outer Banks will join Netflix’s upcoming releases, but hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too long. For now, they can stream the first three complete seasons and Part 1 of Season 4 with a Netflix subscription. And don’t forget to check out the final five episodes when they release on November 7th.

We left the characters of Outer Banks in rough places at the end of Season 4, Part 1. JJ found out his dad isn’t his biological father. John B. is facing the trauma of losing his dad. Pope and Sarah are stuck underground, and Cleo is grieving the loss of her friend and parental figure, Terrance. So, when I had the chance to chat with Carlacia Grant, who plays Cleo, about the end of Part 1, she opened up about how that tragic death will impact her character moving forward.

When I interviewed the cast of Outer Banks about Season 4, I had to ask Grant how she prepared for the scene where Terrance died and the impact it will have on Cleo. In response, she sweetly told me that she adores Terence Rosemore, who plays Terrance in the show, and she knows her character was happy to see the captain come back into her life. So, that made the loss even harder, as she told me:

Grant continued saying that the moment obviously didn’t “happen in the way [Cloe] wants it to happen,” and she wasn’t able to say goodbye to this man who played such a pivotal role in her life. So, she’s deeply hurt by this loss on a lot of levels.

Now, going into Season 4, Part 2 – which premieres on Netflix’s 2024 schedule on November 7 – Cleo feels like she’s ready for revenge, and she’ll do anything to get back at the man who killed Terrance. To that point, while talking about what’s to come for her character, Grant told me:

So, unlike John B., who couldn’t shoot the bad guys because of his loss, Cleo is ready to fight at a moment's notice. She wants to avenge Terrance and stop the men who killed him and are after her friends.

There aren’t that many people in Cleo’s life who mean the world to her. Before meeting the Pogues, she was with Terrance sailing around. Those are the folks closest to her, and she’ll do anything to protect them. So, now that Terrance is dead, it tracks that she’s willing to do just about anything to get revenge on the people who killed him.

Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 1.

As much as I hate when Netflix splits seasons into two parts, I can’t deny that the wait for Volume 2 of Outer Banks has kept the series fresh in my mind for weeks since it premiered on the 2024 TV schedule. It feels like every day I find more things I want to see in the last five episodes. So, now, considering where we left our treasure hunters during the mid-season finale, I'm dying to find out what will happen to the Pogues when the show returns on November 7.

Part of the excitement has to do with the fact that I’m eager to see if the Pogues will be able to find the “Blue Crown” and get out of the treasure-hunting game once and for all. After all, that’s the major plot of this season. However, I also can’t stop thinking about the characters and how they’re in some of the worst shape they’ve ever been. And that’s saying something, considering John B. has nearly died a record number of times in the first three seasons alone.

By the end of the first five episodes, it felt like the crew was more spread out than they’ve ever been, and that doesn’t bode well for the challenges they’ll have to face when Volume 2 drops. So, since binging shows sometimes makes us forget all the details, you might not remember where all the Outer Banks characters were at the end of Episode 5. But, don’t worry, we’re here to help you out!

Pope And Sarah Are Stuck In The Crypt In Charleston

Without a doubt, Pope and Sarah have found themselves in the most dangerous and precarious situation after Volume 1. If you don’t remember, after arriving in Charleston, the gang found the church and cemetery that Pope believes is the key to tracking down the “Blue Crown.” Once inside, Pope teams up with Sarah for the first time, and the two go down into the crypt to track down the treasure.

After accidentally locking themselves out of the way they got in, Pope and Sarah attempt to escape using the path Lightner and Dalia used to beat them to the map. Unfortunately, they sealed the tomb on their way out, leaving Pope and Sarah stuck. To make matters worse, the heavy rain outside has started to enter the crypt, flooding it.

As unfortunate as the situation is, Sarah and Pope both have experience getting themselves into and out of perilous situations. If the Pogues have taught me anything, it’s never to underestimate them and their will to survive. I’m sure they’ll break out of the crypt by the end of Episode 6 at the latest.

JJ And Kiara Are Still In Kildare

As much as I love JJ, he’s been making awful decisions this season.

After receiving a cryptic message, he decides to figure out what it means by bailing on the Pogues and staying behind in Kildare. The move leads him to reconnect with his estranged father, Luke, whom he thought was out of the country. The plot twists don’t end there, though.

While they’re on the run from the police, Luke gives JJ some life-altering news — he’s not his biological father. In fact, JJ isn’t a Pogue at all, but rather the son of Groff and Larissa Genrette, making him the heir to his family’s fortune and Goat Island.

With JJ’s whereabouts unknown to the Pogues, Kiara decides to stay back in Kildare until she can track down JJ. She decides to keep Kildare County Surf Shop open in the meantime since they’re all strapped for cash. It’s a smart decision until Rafe shows up looking for Sarah. Even after dealing with the Kook, Kiara is in the best shape heading into the final five episodes.

However, I'm now wondering how she'll react to this revelation JJ just had.

John B. And Cleo Are Above Ground In Charleston

For the first time in his life, John B. feels apprehensive about treasure hunting. When we leave him at the end of Volume 1, he’s just chickened out of shooting Lightner out of fear of becoming like his father, Big John. Though he’s above ground in Charleston, his mind is very much underwater as he struggles to deal with the trauma surrounding his relationship with his late father.

Cleo is in a similar state, finding herself above ground in Charleston and dealing with her trauma surrounding the tragic loss of her father figure, Terrance. Unlike John B, though, Cleo doesn’t share his apprehension for taking a life, and instead, she vows to seek revenge on Lightner for what he did to Terrance. Not even nearly being choked to death by said antagonist is enough to dissuade her from planning her vengeance.

The Pogues have definitely found themselves in a rough spot physically and emotionally, but that seems to be where they strive. They’ve basically hit rock bottom, which means the only place they can go is up. All I know is that Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 2, is one you’re not going to want to miss. So, make sure those Netflix subscriptions are ready, because we'll be returning to the OBX to find out what happens next to the Pogues on November 7.

Going into Season 4, Part 2 of Outer Banks, things aren’t looking great…JJ just found out that his dad isn’t his biological dad, John B. is feeling apprehensive about the hunt, and, oh yeah, Pope and Sarah are stuck in a catacomb that’s starting to fill with water. However, while those circumstances aren’t exactly ideal for anyone, it did give us a magnificent action-packed sequence between Jonathan Daviss and Madelyn Cline’s characters.

Jonathan Daviss and Madelyn Cline Had Been Wanting To Share More Scenes Together

During my interviews with the Outer Banks cast for CinemaBlend, I was excited to ask Daviss and Cline about their big scene, since Pope and Sarah haven’t spent much solo time together at all.

They both told me they’d been wanting to work together for a while, and the Daviss specifically explained that getting a scene like this was actually a request:

He went on to say that it was “about time” that Sarah and Pope got some screentime together, while also breaking down what that catacomb set was like. And let’s just say, when it came to those dark sets, I think they got more than they bargained for…

Jonathan Daviss And Madelyn Cline Break Down Filming Their Big Scenes In The Goonies-Like Set

Let me set the scene. Most of the Outer Banks cast was outside dealing with their new enemy at the end of Season 4, Part 1. Meanwhile, Sarah and Pope were stuck in a catacomb that’s reminiscent of a set from Goonies or Indiana Jones that was filled with rats. To put that in perspective, here’s how Jonathan Daviss described it to me:

Madelyn Cline described the sets further, telling me that there were three of them. While she wasn’t a fan of the rats, she did appreciate all the artistry that went into those dark and ancient-looking locations, as she said:

Meanwhile, their co-star Madison Bailey chimed in saying that even though Kiara wasn’t in that scene and she didn’t see the sets in person, on screen, she was blown away, saying that it looked “amazing.” While it did indeed look “amazing,” the Glass Onion actress implied that she was also freaked out down there, noting that “life was imitating art,” as Sarah freaked out, and apparently so did she:

Daviss also recalled this story, complimenting his co-star and saying she was a “trooper.” However, while she survived the scene, it didn’t sound like she was having the best time, as he explained:

Outer Banks has always had a bit of Goonies and Indiana Jones flavor as it's a show all about a group of kids finding hidden treasure. However, this scene really had that energy as Sarah and Pope descended into a catacomb to find what they were looking for. Now, like Indy or the kids in Goonies, Daviss and Cline’s characters are in an impossible situation that they need to escape during OBX Part 2.

Teasing what’s to come, the Pope performer said:

Yeah, things aren’t exactly going great for the characters in the story. However, on the screen, they look fantastic because of this epic set and great performances!

Season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer finally premiered a few days ago, and surprise, surprise, the show is already the No. 1 watched series on the streamer – at least in the U.S. I knew the show would dominate when it finally returned as part of the 2024 Netflix schedule, but I honestly wasn’t expecting it to blow one other returning drama out of the water. That returning series would be none other than Outer Banks.

Now, I’d be remiss if I didn’t note The Lincoln Lawyer has a little bit of a leg up here. The streamer premiered Season 3 of the Mickey Haller drama on October 17–a whopping week after the Season 4 premiere of Outer Banks hit the schedule to 15.5 million views. Our weekend box office column about new movie releases often makes it clear how “new” content usually outpaces the old on opening weekend though, for example.

However, there are some shows on Netflix that manage to be so popular they land that #1 slot on the streamer for weeks on end. I kind of thought Outer Banks was in that higher tier of content, given some of the numbers bandied about in the past. (The first season of the drama allegedly did more than 2.1 billion minutes of views when Netflix made the initial announcement; Netflix has since changed the way it announces numbers.)

This Isn't The First Time The Lincoln Lawyer Has Beat Out Another Heavy Hitter

Still, this is the second time The Lincoln Lawyer has come in and quietly dethroned another major Netflix show. In 2023 when the show aired Season 2, it came in and beat The Witcher for that top slot on the streamer’s rankings. At the time, the then-Henry Cavill led series had already been running for two weeks, but it’s still a feat the show has now knocked a behemoth out of a top slot twice during its return weekend.

Right now, given its status at #1, The Lincoln Lawyer is not only beating Outer Banks, but it is also beating newcomer series Nobody Wants This, which, despite its title, streamers certainly seem to want to watch. It’s also beating Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and the new season of The Great British Bake Off. So this isn’t a situation where there’s not much that’s new on Netflix right now. The courtroom drama is outranking some heavy hitters.

In short, The Lincoln Lawyer is quite popular. If you haven’t given it a watch yet, the courtroom drama is dramatic and punches above its weight when it comes to courtroom shenanigans, mostly due to an interesting performance from its lead Manuel Garcia-Rolfo. All three seasons are available on the streamer now.

Meanwhile, Outer Banks is a part of a split Season 4 that will surely dominate the ratings once more upon its return to the 2024 TV schedule.

There have been some seriously massive literal and emotional bombshells on Outer Banks, however, the revelation that JJ’s father wasn’t his biological dad might be the biggest explosion yet. The reveal came right at the end of Season 4’s first part. So, now, as we wait to see how this information impacts the Pogues, I’m thinking about what Rudy Pankow told me about his character’s mentality in that moment and how his personal feelings about the plot point impacted the scene.

During the fifth episode of Season 4, JJ has a few important conversations with his dad Luke, who is played by Gary Weeks, about his biological parents. After getting a letter from Wes Genrette, Rudy Pankow’s character found his father who eventually revealed that JJ was the son of Chandler Groff and Larissa Genrette. Talk about shocking!

So, when I interviewed the cast of Outer Banks about Season 4’s release on Netflix’s 2024 schedule, I asked Pankow about how JJ was feeling after learning all this new information. In response, the actor explained:

As fans of OBX know, Luke is the worst, and JJ understandably has a hard time believing his dad when he receives this news. However, Weeks’ character is telling the truth, and he reassures his son that that’s the case a handful of times as they talk all this out on top of a lighthouse.

Clearly, both JJ and Luke were in shock over this revelation, and the actors playing them were too. Continuing to walk me through how that scene was created, Pankow noted that both his own reaction as well as his on-screen dad’s feelings about the scene played into how they acted during it:

It 100% played in the scene, and it was an epic note to end Part 1 on.

Let’s just say that while JJ’s relationship with Kiara was a big worry going into the season for me, it’s now been overshadowed by the fact that this Pogue has a whole family he never knew. Not only is it personally crazy to comprehend, but it also adds a whole new level of complexity to the treasure hunt the characters are on this season.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to see the fallout of all this, because the final five episodes of Season 4 will drop on November 7. So, when OBX Season 4, Part 2 returns, I need to see how JJ decides to handle this news, and I desperately want to know how the Pogues will react to it.

Clearly, this revelation will change Rudy Pankow’s character’s life, and it’s sure to make the second half of this season even more explosive.

Spoilers for Season 4, Part 1 of Outer Banks are ahead

Easily one of Netflix's best teen dramas, Outer Banks has finally returned to the 2024 TV Schedule for its fourth and final season. Like so many original series on the streaming service, the season has been split into two parts, and Part 1 is filled with drama, suspense, and a handful of plot twists. With Part 2 set to drop on November 7th, fans have a little less than a month to spend theorizing over what’s going to happen next, and I definitely have my own wishlist of things I want to see happen in the final episodes.

So far, Season 4 has done a fantastic job of updating fans on what the Pogues have been up to since we last saw them. The first episode of the season gives us details on what happened during the time jump included at the end of Season 3, and then Episode 2 launches the characters straight into a new adventure as they’re tasked with finding a lost amulet tied to Blackbeards’ reign. Never one to stray from action sequences, the first five episodes include an intense scuba dive scene, several near-death experiences, and, of course, treasure hunting.

The action culminates in the final episode of Part 1, leaving every character (and all of us fans) in various states of distress. While it seems like things couldn’t get any worse for the cast of OBX, I’m certain that Season 4 Part 2 is going to put them through even more hell to make their triumph at the end more worth it. I have a lot of expectations heading into these final five episodes, but there are three things at the top of my list that I hope to happen by the time the credits roll for the final time.

I Want The Pogues To Find And Keep The Treasure (And I Hope It’s Worth It This Time)

Outer Banks fans might disagree on who the best couple on the show is, but one thing we can all agree on is that the Pogues deserve to find and keep this season’s treasure after all they’ve been through. I would be so mad if the writers decided to pull a Season 2 ending where the Pogues lost the cross to the enemy.

However, finding and keeping the treasure isn’t enough this time; I also need the “Blue Crown” to be worth it. Sure, John B. And the gang found El Dorado in Season 3, but all they walked away with a million dollars in gold that they blew through in less than two years. If they’re risking life and death (again), the “Blue Crown” better come with a price tag that’ll ensure they can live the lives they want and get out of the treasure-hunting game for good. It’s what they deserve.

I Need John B. To Open Up To Someone About His Trauma And Get The Help He Needs

I might be alone on this one since it wouldn’t lead to any action sequences, but I would love to see John B. talk to someone, preferably a professional, about his trauma surrounding the loss of his father and his fears of becoming just like him. It’s clear that the leader of the Pogues is struggling this season in more ways than one. He’s more apprehensive to agree to the treasure hunt, and he struggles with throwing himself into danger and risking his life like he’s done for the last three seasons.

While there’s nothing wrong with John B. becoming a bit more cautious now that he has more to lose, I do miss his leadership and adventurous side and would love to see it return before the show ends. But only if it comes back because he’s come to terms with all he’s been through.

The Antagonists Need To Pay For What They’ve Done For Once

As great as Outer Banks has been, it has a habit of letting the antagonists of each season off easy. Ward lived for far too many seasons only to die a hero in the end. The Kooks have yet to learn to leave the Pogues alone. Even Mr. Singh’s death felt lackluster in the grand scheme of things.

Since this is the last season of the show, I really hope the writers up the stakes and let the Pogues get the revenge they’ve earned over the last four seasons. I want Cleo to be the one to take down Lightner after what he did to her and Terrance. Sarah deserves to put Rafe in his place and get closure. And the core four Pogues deserve to finally shut the Kooks up by proving that Kildare is their rightful home.

In short, the Pogues deserve to live happily ever after without fear of anyone coming in to ruin everything they’ve built together.

And that’s only the beginning of my wish list for the final five episodes. Of course, I need to know how JJ is going to react to the family bombshell that was dropped on him. Plus, I want to know if my suspicions about who the murderer is are true. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long because Part 2 of Outer Banks will be released on November 7th. The cast of Outer Banks finds themselves in some wild and action-packed sequences every season. However, in Season 4, Part 1, they really stepped up their game by doing a massive scuba diving sequence in Episode 2 that saw JJ and Kiara battling for their lives in a sunken ship. So, when I had the chance to speak with Rudy Pankow and Madison Bailey, I had to ask them about the story behind this epic moment.

Madison Bailey And Rudy Pankow Break Down How They Prepared For The Scuba Scene

Knowing that this was likely a beast of a scene to shoot, I had to ask Bailey and Pankow about how they prepared for it.

Bailey specifically explained that she was nervous about it all when she got the script that said JJ and Kie would be diving down for the treasure. However, having a “fearless scene partner” like Rudy Pankow helped:

So, with her worries assuaged, Bailey and Pankow told me that they actually learned how to scuba dive to pull off this big set piece. The Kiara actress talked about that and how it helped her face a big fear by saying:

Meanwhile, as Bailey noted, Pankow was excited to film the scene. He also loved that they had to get scuba certified for it, as he told me:

Overall, the scene featured both JJ and Kiara in classic OBX life-threatening, death-defying action, and it sounds like it was a lot to prepare for. However, they had a good time doing it and have a new skill too. Plus, what made this whole situation even cooler was where it was filmed.

The JJ And Kiara Actors Explain The Set They Filmed The Sequence On

While they learned how to scuba dive in the ocean, as Bailey said, the actual scene was filmed in a tank. Pankow broke down exactly what it looked like during our interview too, saying:

Meanwhile, Bailey opened up about the ship they swam through. While they weren’t at an actual sunken ship, the crew did build a set that resembled one, as the Kiara actress told me:

As a viewer, I also appreciated the amount of detail and training that went into this incredible scene that involved both these actors and stunt doubles working hard underwater.

Rudy Pankow Opens Up About How They Shot The Sequence

Rudy Pankow also told me how they shot the scuba diving as well. While stunt doubles were working with them, of course, he and Bailey got to film quite a bit of it themselves. The JJ actor broke down how all that was shot too, telling me:

Overall, I love that these two got to get scuba-certified and really into the action to pull off this epic moment. Outer Banks is known for its thrilling set pieces, and this one in Episode 2 raised the bar once again.

Now, I can’t wait to see what kind of action lies ahead as we inch closer to Season 4, Part 2’s November 7 premiere on Netflix’s 2024 release schedule. I obviously want to know if JJ and Kiara’s relationship will continue to flourish, and I love seeing this new grown-up version of the Pogues. However, what makes my jaw drop while watching OBX is the action, like this scuba diving scene we just broke down, and I really hope we get to see even more moments like it.

Since day one, Outer Banks’ adventures have been driven by John B. However, that's not the case in the latest season to premiere on Netflix’s 2024 schedule. Chase Stokes’ character is a bit more apprehensive this time, and in many ways, Rudy Pankow’s JJ is leading the charge. So, with all that in mind, I asked Stokes about his Pouge’s mentality this season.

Throughout the first three seasons of Outer Banks, John B. found himself in numerous near-death situations, but, he was always on the hunt to find the treasure and get closer to his dad. However, at the end of OBX Season 3, he lost his father and got a whole lot of money for finding El Dorado. So, this time around, he's trying to make sure he doesn't lose anyone else or the fortune they found.

While speaking with Chase Stokes about his character’s apprehension to go on another treasure hunt during CinemaBlend’s interviews with the Outer Banks cast, the actor told me:

It makes sense that everything John B. went through would hit him like a ton of bricks after he had time to process it all. He lost his dad, he’s been on death’s door a handful of times and all his friends have risked their lives too. The Pogues even got stranded on an island! So, by the time they finally find stability by way of this gold that lets them build a home in the Outer Banks, Stokes’ character doesn’t want to lose it.

He emphasized that point while talking to me too, as he explained:

I certainly noticed that John B. was playing more defense this time around. While he is into the adventure, he’s notably not taking the same level of risks he took in the early days of the show. He wants to preserve this home he’s built with his friends and the peace they’ve found.

So, for instance, when JJ bets the last bit of their fortune on a race, John B. is genuinely upset and scared. Then, when Rudy Pankow’s character asks Stokes’ to help him by joining the dirt bike race, he’s very anxious about it all (even though he does ultimately say yes).

Also, at the very end of Part 1, we see John B. panicking, he’s not able to shoot the bad guy, and we’re flashed back to his final moments with his father. Overall, his trauma is real and it’s impacting how he sees this new adventure they're are on.

Ultimately, in Season 4, the Pogues are more grown up, and, as John B. says, they have everything to lose this time. So, yeah, he’s feeling apprehensive about this hunt, and it’s probably going to stay that way as we roll into Season 4, Part 2 – which premieres on the 2024 TV schedule on November 7.

When it comes to the latest 2024 Netflix movie and TV release dates as of late, the Uglies movie has been dominating streaming numbers all weekend as tons of viewers tuned into the latest of the YA book adaptations. One element of the movie that surely had more people tuning in was Outer Banks’ Chase Stokes in one of the lead roles as the best friend of Joey King’s Tally. CinemaBlend spoke to the actor about his experience on the sci-fi flick and how it compared to his other big Netflix role.

This is where we get into SPOILERS. In Uglies, Stokes plays Peris, who is the first among the besties to turn 16 and therefore get the cosmetic surgery that everyone gets at that age in the dystopian society. Sadly for Tally, once Peris gets the surgery, he is a total meanie to her and starts working for the movie’s big bad (Laverne Cox’s Dr. Cable). At the end of Uglies, Peris ends up dying via falling off a giant cliff after Tally tries to stop him from beating David to death. When I spoke to Stokes about filming the death scene, he said this:

While his death scene is totally dramatic, it’s fun to imagine how shooting that scene really was like on that day. Plus, if you’re caught up on Outer Banks, you might have noticed that John B. almost dies a lot on the teen series. So much so that one of our staff members counted the amount of near-death experiences of John B. on Outer Banks so you don’t have to. With this in mind, the actor also said this about his Uglies death:

When comparing the two Netflix roles, Chase Stokes at first shared there was something nice about a character having some “finality” to him before teasing that perhaps the character didn’t die after all. What? I think this means Stokes likes the near-death trend for himself, and if an Uglies sequel did have Peris rising from the dead, he’d definitely have some sort of record, right?

Uglies is a passion project of Joey King, who spoke to CinemaBlend about trying to make the Scott Westerfield novel into a movie for a wild long time. During the press day, King and the other Uglies cast members spoke about the “timely” themes the movie gets into in relation to beauty standards. Check out Stokes’ transformation into a “Pretty.”

When Season 4 of Outer Banks premieres on Netflix’s 2024 release schedule in October, we can expect to see John B. and Sarah Cameron happy and in love. While I might be concerned about other fan-favorite OBX couples, they are not one of them. First-look photos have shown the two looking lovingly at each other, and Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline’s chemistry hasn’t wavered – despite the two dating and breaking up in real life. Now, the John B. actor is opening up about his working relationship with his co-star and ex and how it’s evolved over the years.

Stokes and Cline have been working together since 2019. They met after being cast in Outer Banks, and for four seasons they’ve been playing John B. and Sarah, two characters who have been in love with each other since the early days of the show. Following rumors, the two revealed they were dating in June of 2020, per People. Then, in November 2021, it was confirmed that they broke up.

However, their personal relationship hasn’t negatively impacted their professional one, as Stokes said in a new interview with People:

Season 4 of Outer Banks marks the second season the two have filmed together after their breakup. Back when Season 3 came out, Stokes and Cline spoke highly of each other despite not being together. At the time, the John B. actor told EW that when he started dating his co-star they “made a promise to each other” that “work was always going to come first.”

As a big fan of OBX, I certainly couldn’t feel any awkwardness or tension between the two actors, and in the show, John B. and Sarah were as in love as always.

Speaking a bit to that point in this new interview, Stokes said he and Cline work well together, and he’s “thankful” for her and their working relationship:

I’m sure fans are thankful for this too, I know I am. Truly, even though they broke up and moved on – Stokes has been dating country singer Kelsea Ballerini since January 2023, and Cline was dating Pete Davidson, however, they reportedly broke up in July 2024, per The Sun – on-screen their chemistry is still immaculate.

Now, following the end of OBX Season 3, we know we’ll see a time jump and the Pogues a bit more grown up, and I can’t wait to watch how John B. and Sarah’s relationship evolves. Stokes and Cline’s has clearly grown in a positive direction, and I know they’ll bring their A-games to playing out the story of this beloved couple.

What do Bridgerton, Stranger Things and Emily in Paris all have in common? They and others are victims of Netflix’s latest release strategy that splits up seasons into two parts. As much as I think binge-watching is ruining TV on the whole, this new-ish way of dropping shows is extremely annoying and not working for me, either. And now it's happening with Outer Banks Season 4.

Even though Netflix execs haven't outright revealed why they’ve chosen to move away from dropping an entire season on one day — a release strategy the service pioneered — most people agree it's mainly for monetary gain. After all, one clear way to keep viewers from deactivating their subscriptions after a release is to make them wait several weeks or even months between episodes.

It’s clear that’s what they’re hoping to achieve by spreading out the final season of Outer Banks in two releases a little less than a month apart. The ironic thing is that there’s a simple solution to Netflix’s problem that would benefit them and end the countless complaints from fans who hate the two-part release plan.

All they need to do is follow in the footsteps of traditional broadcasting and some of the other best streaming services and start releasing episodes weekly like so many shows on the 2024 TV Schedule already do. While they might get some flak for going back to the “old way” of watching television, the benefits far outweigh the cons — at least in my opinion, especially when it comes to Outer Banks.

Weekly Episodes Help Fan Theories And Conversations Thrive

On the fan side, weekly drops would be a major win because it would allow watchers to digest an episode and theorize what is going to happen next. This is particularly beneficial to thrilling and suspenseful shows like Outer Banks. It would have been so much fun to get to log on to social media every week to share theories on how the Pogues were going to find the treasure they’d be after.

We could have finally gotten that this season, but instead, we’re going to be stuck with a random break in the season that’s probably going to leave us with more questions than answers. It also would have kept the show relevant for longer, ensuring it became a major pop culture phenomenon — like Ted Lasso and The Last Of Us seeing great success from releasing weekly episodes.

Remember Shows Is Easier When Watched Across Weeks Or Months

Another perk of weekly drops that no one seems to talk about is that they help people remember what they’re watching. I can’t tell you how many shows I’ve binge-watched and promptly forgotten about because I’ve crammed ten episodes into a 48-hour window. While it’s true that the two-part drops have alleviated some of this need to devour a show in hours, it hasn’t completely fixed the problems.

Fans are still racing to get through episodes to avoid spoilers, and now they’re doing it twice, sometimes in less than a month. Going this route would also elevate clunky, middle-of-the-season cliffhangers that only exist to keep people engaged until the second part drops at a later date. In my experience, this often has the opposite effect, and I find myself forgetting to watch the second installment of shows because the time in between is inorganic.

Netflix Isn't Stopping With Just Two-Part Releases, Either

Now, to be fair, Netflix didn’t invent the two-part narrative phenomenon. In fact, the annoying trend can be traced back to theatrical film releases where major franchises like Dune, Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga hoped to capitalize off fans by splitting the final books into two movies. AMC also gets some blame for splitting up seasons of Breaking Bad and Mad Men. But it’s clearly a strategy Netflix plans to stick with for now, given the news about Outer Banks.

As if two parts aren’t enough, the streaming giant has already committed to splitting the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai into three parts, with the final installment not slated to come out until 2025. A weekly release would have worked out much better for the martial arts dramedy and probably would have kept fans more involved since they’d have less time between seasons to forget about the show.

Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do as viewers. If we don’t watch these shows, they will be canceled, and no one wants that. I just hope Netflix realizes that they’re only hurting themselves and at least tries to release one of their major shows weekly. Outer Banks would have been the perfect series to test this out with, given its diehard fandom, but sadly, that won’t happen.

Instead, we’ll have to log onto Netflix with our active subscriptions into on October 10th and again on November 7th to catch the fourth and final season.

At the end of Outer Banks’ third season, JJ and Kiara finally admitted their feelings for each other and kissed. The two officially acknowledged their love for each other, and after seasons of shipping them, the fans got what they wanted. However, we just got our first looks at Season 4 of OBX, and I have to admit that I’m a bit concerned about the couple’s relationship, especially when you compare it to the other couples in the series.

In a big announcement that included a teaser trailer and OBX Season 4’s premiere dates on Netflix’s 2024 release schedule (which are October 10 for Part 1 and November 7 for Part 2), they also dropped some telling images. To me, the most interesting photo of the set was of JJ and Kiara lying in a bed looking up at the ceiling. In it, Madison Bailey’s character specifically looks concerned, and that has me asking questions, take a look:

So, is there trouble in paradise? It seems like there might be, especially when you see some of the other photos that came out.

Clearly, it looks like John B. and Sarah are doing well together, as you can see below:

Plus, it appears Pope and Cleo are in a good place, as their image featured them holding hands.

The stark juxtaposition in tone of JJ and Kiara’s photo is what has me scratching my head. While I’m certain all these pairs will go through peaks and valleys this season, I find it troubling, that this image seems to allude to the idea that Madison Bailey and Rudy Pankow's characters might be having problems.

Obviously, her look could mean a bunch of different things. Maybe, they’re talking about this season’s quest, and she’s stressed about it. Maybe, JJ and Kiara are doing just fine, and they’re simply having a serious discussion. Or maybe, their future as a couple might be in danger.

Considering the other happy images this was paired with, I’m inclined to think that the last option is the most likely theory.

Both Kiara and JJ can be loose cannons, so I’m positive that their relationship will feature some wild turns. However, I didn’t expect to think about that so early.

While I’m concerned, however, the photo also has me even more excited for Season 4. So far, we know this new installment of OBX will feature the Pogues all grown-up after the big time-jump at the end of Season 3. We also are aware of the fact that they’ve been hired to go on a treasure hunt for their next adventure. Plus, based on videos from the cast about wrapping their senior season, it looks like OBX might lean into the cast’s comedic capabilities, which I’m thrilled about. So, now we can add the notion that romance will play a big part in the new episodes to the list too.

Overall, while this image of JJ and Kiara has me concerned, especially looking at their photo in comparison to the ones of the other couples, it’s also exciting. Part of the fun of Outer Banks is the soapy romantic drama that comes with it, and I personally can’t wait to see it play out when Season 4 premieres on the 2024 TV schedule in October.

We’re getting closer and closer to Outer Banks’ Season 4 premiere on the 2024 TV schedule, and we just took a leap forward recently when the cast announced that they had wrapped on their senior season. Personally, I was already thrilled about this upcoming episodes. However, this hilarious video from the OBX cast has me even more "stoked" about what’s to come for a very specific reason.

To celebrate the fact that they finished filming, Chase Stokes (AKA our boy John B.) and the Pogues hopped on Instagram to tell the fans that they’re hard at work on post-production (which obviously, the cast are not the people actually doing the editing or other post-work). Some highlights from the video that had me laughing out loud were Madison Bailey (who plays Kiara) getting bleeped over a spoiler, the man behind Pope, Jonathan Daviss, showing off his editing skills (which resembled that of an early 2000s music video), and Madelyn Cline (Sarah) holding up the boom mic for Carlacia Grant (Cleo) so they could “record the OBX sound effects.” However, the moment that sent me over the edge was Grant giving her “best ocean sound.”

Truly, this cast was firing on all cylinders, and the video didn’t just crack me up, it highlighted this group's wonderful chemistry and made me so excited for Season 4!

The Cast’s Chemistry And Humor Make Me So Excited To Return To The Outer Banks

Much like our first look at OBX4, this video brought a new vibe to the beloved Netflix show. At the end of Outer Banks Season 3, we turned the page to a new chapter, and now the Pogues aren’t teens cluelessly running around trying to solve a mystery. They are hired treasure hunters; in theory, they shouldn’t be running for their lives as much, and they should have more fun.

In the final moments of the last finale, John B. and co. had a job proposed to them that would involve them hunting treasure related to Blackbeard. Considering they aren’t doing this for survival, and they’re experienced in the field, it feels like there’s more room for fun this season, and that’s what this video teased to me.

Of course, I fully expect John B. to almost die many times during the new season -- this is still the action-packed Outer Banks. However, I love the idea of seeing these characters growing up and being in a position where they can lean into their chemistry and shared sense of humor.

If they’re able to bring the silly chaotic energy from that wrap video into Season 4, I’ll be a happy camper!

Truly, the OBX cast has incredible chemistry, and my favorite moments are when they are all together having a good time while finding treasure. Their funny video gave us a taste of that, and hopefully, when Season 4 comes out later this year we’ll get even more of it!

While we don’t know exactly when Outer Banks Season 4 will come out, we are aware of the fact that it’ll drop sometime toward the end of the year. As the wait continues, you can return to the OBX by streaming the first three seasons with a Netflix subscription.

Fans of Outer Banks are expecting to be reunited with their favorite Pogues later this year when the hit teen drama series premieres on the 2024 TV schedule. Excitement has been building for quite some time over Season 4, with the first official look at the upcoming OBX episodes coming from Netflix’s Tudum event last year. As the yet-to-be-determined release date creeps closer and closer, fans like myself are starting to worry that this might be the last time we see these characters in action, especially after one star shared a sappy post on social media. 

It's undeniable that the Outer Banks stars are getting older which sometimes makes it harder for people to believe in the teenage antics their characters find themselves in. Netflix also has a history of keeping shows, even the most popular ones, limited to only a handful of seasons for some reason. But the most alarming piece of evidence that OBX may be headed into its final season comes in the form of star Chase Stokes’ latest Instagram post that reflects on his time as the iconic John B. Take a look for yourself: 

It’s the final image in the four-photo carousel that invoked the biggest emotion for me personally, though, showing the original four Pogus walking down a familiar dock. Add that with the mushy caption the rising star included, and well, can you really blame me for being worried? 

This might seem counter-productive to my views now, but truthfully, I would have been happy had the series ended after Season 3. The creators managed to wrap up nearly every loose end and even gave us a glimpse into what these characters’ lives were like in the future, once the treasure hunt finally ended. 

Unfortunately, they also committed the fatal Netflix show flaw and included a cliffhanger that saw the Pogues being asked to help with another treasure hunt. One that involved Edward Teach aka Blackbeard. 

Knowing that it took the Pogues three seasons to figure out the El Dorado treasure, it seems very unlikely that they’re going to manage to find this new treasure in only one season. Sure, they’re older now, they have learned a lot, and we know they won't tap out of the hunt, but a secret pirate treasure seems like it would be a lot harder to find. 

If Season 4 is the final season, and the creators know this, then I fear they’re going to rush into solving this mystery and ignore important character arcs that are the real reason I find myself turning in to watch. I would much rather get at least two seasons out of this new adventure so nothing feels rushed, but that doesn’t seem likely now.

Not only does Stokes’ post make me worried about the latest season, but it also has me fearful of what his character’s fate is going to be if this really is the end of the story. Anyone who has ever seen the show knows that John B. almost died multiple times. His adventurous personality is a trait he inherited from his father that ended up leading to his death, which makes me worried that history will repeat itself. I certainly hope I’m wrong though! Not every show needs shocking character deaths to make it interesting. 

With no official word, yet, on when Outer Banks Season 4 will be released, fans can get their ‘Pogue Life’ fix by streaming the first three seasons with a Netflix subscription.

One Tree Hill is a classic teen drama, and to this day it’s beloved for its soapy drama, romances and focus on friendship, family and basketball. The story follows the iconic OTH cast – which features Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz – as they make their way through high school in a small town. This early 2000s series was a staple of its time, and if you are looking to find this kind of drama and nostalgia again I have some show recommendations for you.

The O.C.

When the wealthy Cohen family adopts Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), he and Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) go about their dramatic lives in Orange County.

Why The O.C. Is Like One Tree Hill: This soapy teen drama from the early 2000s focuses on two brothers, albeit their relationship is a lot healthier than Nathan and Lucas’, and their journey through high school. With romantic pairings like Seth (Brody) and Summer (Rachel Bilson), and big dramatic moments played out by the ensemble cast of The O.C. too, it’s actually super similar to One Tree Hill.

Outer Banks

A crew of teens from the Outer Banks, led by Chase Stokes’ John B. are on the hunt for an ancient treasure. 

Why Outer Banks Is Like One Tree Hill: Need a show that also takes place in one of the two Carolina states and features beloved romances, intense adventures and unexpected action? Outer Banks is for you. While its main character John B. almost dies way more often than any character on One Tree Hill, it’s still full of the same soapy drama that I’m sure you’ll like if you dug the early 2000s show.

Dawson's Creek

To this day, you’ll find people re-watching Dawson’s Creek much like they do One Tree Hill. The story follows Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Joey (Katie Holmes) through high school and the drama that ensues between them and their romantic interests – especially when Pacey (Joshua Jackson) and Jen (Michelle Williams) get involved.

Why Dawson’s Creek Is Like One Tree Hill: This show is arguably the most similar to One Tree Hill on this list. Both series ran for many seasons during the early 2000s and centered around high schoolers dealing with love, life, family and soapy drama. Along with their plot similarities, both the Dawson’s Creek cast and OTH ensemble took off because of their shows. Also, Chad Michael Murray played a role in both seminal teen dramas.

Gossip Girl centers around a group of rich Upper Eastside teens (and Dan from Brooklyn) who are targeted by the titular anonymous gossip blog. 

Why Gossip Girl Is Like One Tree Hill: While the New York City setting is what greatly differentiates these two shows, at their core, they are both centered around a dramatic high school and the interpersonal relationships between the core characters. And let’s face it, both One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl live up to their hype because of their iconic relationships (like Chuck and Blair and Nathan and Haley).

Gilmore Girls

Mother/daughter duo Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) live in Stars Hallow, and they go about life in their small town with their friends and family.

Why Gossip Girl Is Like One Tree Hill: Both Tree Hill and Stars Hallow are small towns, and both shows span over many years as we watch the ensemble cast grow up. Also, like Gilmore Girls, OTH focuses a lot on family, both biological and found. Not to mention, one of the Gilmore Girls cast members whose career took off after he starred in the show was our beloved Chad Michael Murray – however, a big difference is Lucas from Tree Hill is significantly nicer than Stars Hollow’s Tristin.

Based on Archie Comics, Riverdale follows Archie (K.J. Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) through high school. Throughout the show, there are murder mysteries, supernatural entanglements and even musicals.

Why Riverdale Is Like One Tree Hill: If you are looking for over-the-top high school drama, relationships that you’re excited to ship and a fun ensemble, both these shows have you covered. While Riverdale has crazy plot twists that involve more magic and mystery than OTH, they both will fill your need for a good ol' high school drama. Oh, also, Chad Michael Murray guest stars in a few episodes of this too.

Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights follows one of high school’s best football teams, the Dillon Panthers, and their coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler).

Why Friday Night Lights Is Like One Tree Hill: The biggest reason these two shows are like one another is how sports play into the story. The majority of the Friday Night Lights cast are on or involved with the town’s football team. Just switch the sport to basketball, and you have a similar situation with One Tree Hill, especially in the earlier seasons.

Considered by many to be one of the best TV shows on Netflix and, most definitely, one of its most popular in recent memory is Outer Banks. Created by Shannon Burke with Jonas and Josh Pate, the series — which first premiered in 2020 — follows a young man (Chase Stokes) who discovers that his father’s disappearance is connected to a lost treasure that he and his friends set out to find, which soon brings him face-to-face with death multiple times as a result.

However, the Outer Banks cast is not the only group of teens that you can find on the small screen who live dangerously… or, at least, have a lot of problems that seem to get worse with each season. Why it is one of the best shows like Outer Banks: Created by Lauren Oliver (who also wrote the original novel), the Amazon Prime original miniseries Panic, like OBX, focuses on teens whose aspirations to leave their hometown end up putting them in harm’s way, but with a twist similar to The Hunger Games movies without the dystopian setting.

The Wilds (2020-2022)

When their plane crashes on a deserted island, a group of teenage girls must learn how to survive the harsh terrain and each other.

Why it is one of the best shows like Outer Banks: The teens from OBX may be fed up with their hometown, but at least they are not quite as desperate to leave the island like the young ladies on the Amazon Prime original, The Wilds — a TV show that was cancelled before reaching a proper ending, but is worth giving a try for the thrill.

The Society (2019)

A teenager girl (played by Kathryn Newton in one of her best roles) and other youths discover that all of their adult peers have suddenly vanished from their small town, which they are also mysteriously unable to leave from.

Why it is one of the best shows like Outer Banks: If the teens from OBX actually found themselves physically and inexplicably unable to leave their hometown (and they did not live near water) their situation might resemble the plot of Netflix’s The Society — another prematurely cancelled coming-of-age drama, but with a sci-fi twist, and one of Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s best TV shows, too.

Riverdale (2017-2023)

The increasingly unsettling adventures of Archie (K.J. Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Veronica (Camila Mendes), and others in a small American town plagued by shady individuals and haunting secrets.

Why it is one of the best shows like Outer Banks: While the setting of The CW’s dark adaptation of the Archie comics is not as idyllic and some plot points border on the supernatural, the situations that the Riverdale cast members finds themselves in — ranging from murder mysteries to love triangles — are not too different from what the OBX crew often face.

When thinking about some of the biggest shows right now, The Summer I Turned Pretty instantly comes to mind. Sporting two seasons, with a third one already ordered, the Amazon Prime Video adaptation, based on the books by Jenny Han, follows the story of a teenager (Lola Tung) who's involved in a love triangle between two brothers who happen to both want her (Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno).

The series became a major hit for Prime Video when it first premiered and has only gotten bigger with Season 2. But, if you're looking for shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty, there are plenty of great romantic, coming-of-age stories that you can check out now.

Dawson's Creek (1998 - 2003)

The first show I think of in this category is Dawson's Creek. The series is named after the titular character, Dawson Leery, and follows a group of friends as they journey through their younger years and experience love, heartbreak, love triangles, grief, and so much more.

Dawson's Creek ran for six seasons and many great episodes and was created by the same person who made The Vampire Diaries, so you know that it will be full of drama and romance -- perfect for fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty. It was a huge show when it first came out, and is quite honestly, one of the most significant coming-of-age romance shows ever. The Dawson's Creek cast is also insanely talented.

The Sex Lives Of College Girls (2021 – Present)

In this dramedy created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, The Sex Lives of College Girls is as outrageously hilarious as that title. It follows four young women who happen to be roommates starting out college, and follows their lives as they grow up, including their sexual endeavors, romantic relationships, and more. 

While I do think that the content of The Sex Lives of College Girls is a bit more mature than The Summer I Turned Pretty, both deal with the idea of love at a younger age and what growing up in today’s world is like. Plus, The Sex Lives of College Girls cast is insanely talented and I assure you, you will laugh your butt off.

Emily In Paris (2020 – Present)

Have you ever dreamed about running away to Paris and starting a new life? Well, Emily in Paris is the answer to that dream. Starring Lily Collins in one of her best roles, the show (created by Darren Star) follows a young woman who gets the chance to go to Paris for her job as a replacement, and it turns her life upside down. 

This is another case where the characters in this show are older than the ones in The Summer I Turned Pretty, but there’s something so similar about these two main characters where they are putting themselves out there in a new place where I can’t help but draw comparisons. Plus, an Emily in Paris Season 4 is on the way, so might as well catch up on all the drama.

Dickinson (2019 - 2021)

The comedy-drama, Dickinson, is one of the best Apple TV+ shows and it stars Hailee Steinfeld. The series tells the story of Emily Dickinson and follows her relationships, her role in society, and more. 

Love isn't the focus here. It's certainly in the background compared to everything else in Emily's life. but the series is great for those who want to see a young woman find herself. While different customs and time periods separate her and Belly, there's a solid commonality between these two characters – both want to be understood by their families and accepted as they are.

It's a great show and one I recommend to anyone who wants something new to watch after The Summer I Turned Pretty.

One Tree Hill (2003 - 2012)

One Tree Hill is a famous CW show that goes everywhere at some points for the most ridiculous plotlines. Still, the two people we focus on at first are Lucas and Nathan, two sports stars and half-brothers, competing for a spot on their school's basketball team, and the drama from their romances – including dating the other's girlfriends. 

This show is just completely out there sometimes with its story in the later seasons, but the first few are perfect for fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty. It captures that drama and romance I'm sure we all secretly crave, just in a more dramatic way.

On My Block (2018 – 2021)

This was a Netflix show that was cancelled way too soon. On My Block follows a group of friends who all attend Los Angeles, and while they grow up, they discover more of the world that is darker than what they ever experienced, going through social hardships, secretive betrayals, and more. 

Okay, so On My Block is a lot darker than The Summer I Turned Pretty, but for some reason, I really like these two and compare them a lot. Both of them feature some great friendships that are super complex, and both feature situations that really force the characters to grow up quicker. I think I just like On My Block so much because it feels so real in comparison to many of the others on this list – and sometimes, you really need a show that speaks on these real-life issues so skillfully.

XO Kitty (2023 - Present)

Serving as a spinoff to the Netflix franchise, To All The Boys I've Loved Before, this series, called XO Kitty, follows Kitty in her adventures as she travels across the world to South Korea to see her long-distance boyfriend, but her trip ends up changing her life more than she thought it would. 

Unlike many spinoffs, you don't need to have seen To All The Boys to enjoy it. Like The Summer I Turned Pretty, the series features an independent young woman on her journey to understand love and grow up, which is beautiful. Plus, you get to see a new country – South Korea. And, Jenny Han wrote both Pretty and To All The Boys, so I think it's a good fit.

Heartstopper (2022 – Present)

This is the teen dramedy that everyone needs to watch. Heartstopper is based on the graphic novel series of the same name and follows Charlie, a gay schoolboy who winds up falling for his classmate, Nick, when school begins, and we dig deeper into their relationship as time goes on. 

With two seasons, I can’t rave enough about Heartstopper. Truly. I love this show with such a passion that I will literally get anyone to watch it. For fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty, it has plenty of the same type of love you would expect from younger couples, all the fumbling and awkwardness and everything else, but there’s so much more to this series, and I have to share plenty of love for it.

Ginny & Georgia (2021 - Present)

Totaling two seasons (and a third one on the way), Ginny & Georgia follows the titular characters, Ginny and her mother, Georgia, as they travel to a new town with her half-brother to settle down for good. But soon, demons from Georgia's past show up, and Ginny discovers that her mom isn't as perfect as she seems.

Here's another excellent example of a TV series that only partially focuses on love. It's a big part of the show, and we even saw that in Season 2 of the series, but what makes it great is the dynamic between Ginny and her mother. I love watching their scenes together. 

For fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty, you'll come for the romances and drama; trust me, there is plenty. But, you'll stay for the intriguing plot and the characters that always draw you in. If we're being truthful, you'll want a mom like Georgia by the time you're done with the series.

Never Have I Ever (2020 - 2023)

Spanning four seasons, Never Have I Ever was co-created by Mindy Kaling and is loosely based on her childhood, as told through the eyes of Devi, a young, Indian-American girl who wants to change her social status in high school after her father's sudden death. 

Never Have I Ever is the perfect show for fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty. There's romance, drama, hilarious scenes, and a great lead character. While the show only lasted four seasons, it told a complete and compelling story, and we all got to watch Devi grow into a beautiful young woman.

Grown-ish (2018 - Present)

Grown-ish is a spinoff of the popular sitcom, black-ish. The series mainly focuses on the children that were featured in Black-ish as they go to college and learn how to become an adult – and all the drama and hilarities that ensue from that. 

If I’m being honest, I almost enjoy grown-ish more than black-ish because I connect more with the main characters as someone who just graduated from college three years ago. I understand all of the stresses, pain, and everything else – which is why I think it's perfect for fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty. There's love and romance, but the friendships and sweet moments make this a good pick.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (2019 – 2023)

Lastly, we have to talk about High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. This Disney+ show follows the students who actually go to East High School where the High School Musical movies were filmed. And during the first season, they are filmed in a documentary style as they put on their high school musical – an actual musical version of High School Musical. 

Yes, you read that right, and yes, the joke is just as meta as you would think it would be —  and the comedy doesn’t stop there. This show is so funny so often that sometimes it almost feels unintentional. For fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty, you’ll love the cute romances and the evolving friendships, but you’ll stay for the musical numbers. Plus, you also get to see Olivia Rodrigo before she blows up to stardom – that’s always worth the time.

There are so many great TV shows you should check out once you finish up The Summer I Turned Pretty. I'm about to go and binge-watch them again just for fun. I need my romance fix until season 3 for this show comes around.

It’s time to grab your board shorts and surfboards, because we’re going back to the Outer Banks! As Netflix provided sneak peeks at many of its biggest shows and movies at its Tudum event in Brazil, they also showed the first look at Season 4 of OBX. While didn't reveal any of the plot, we did get a preview of our merry band of Pogues and how they’re looking as they head into a brand new adventure. And I must say, I'm really into this new vibe.

Following OBX’s wild Season 3 ending, it was clear that John B. and co. have turned a page and entered a new chapter in life. The season ends with a time jump where we find out the Pogues have all moved on from the treasure hunt, and are considered heroes. So, now that they’re officially heroes, the crew was recruited to do some professional treasure hunting, and based on this first look from Tudum it seems like they are ready to do exactly that:

As you can see, the video shows the whole gang – Sarah, Cleo, Pope, Kiara, JJ and John B. – and their new(ish) looks. Really, it just looks like they all finally had time to take a breath, do some laundry and take a shower, but nonetheless, they all look fantastic and more than ready for a new adventure. 

Most notably, we see John B. rocking a new short haircut before he tosses the keys of the Twinkie to JJ and they take off in the van, revealing the OBX 4 logo. While I know its just a haircut, Chase Stokes' character looks more mature, and I'm so here for it.

This preview has me all excited for Season 4 because it really seems like the crew is rejuvenated and ready to take on this new adventure. Seasons 1 through 3 all focused on essentially the same hunt, and our Pogues were kids. Now, it looks like they’ve grown up a bit, had time to move on, found some closure, and they are ready to put their treasure-hunting skills to professional use. 

While I’m sure John B. will probably almost die a handful of times, I hope the show is headed in a slightly more mature direction. We learned at the end of Outer Banks’ third season that the crew had been recruited to go on a quest involving Blackbeard, and based on this high-energy preview it feels like they are ready to rock. 

Along with this new treasure hunt, there are also a few relationships on the show that fans and I are very excited to see in this new season. Now that the Pogues are really adults, I can’t wait to see how JJ and Kiara’s relationship grows, and if they got together in the time between the Season 3 ending and the time jump. I also can’t wait to see Pope and Cleo, because they shared a sweet moment out in the jungle, and it feels like they share a strong bond. There’s also always Sarah and John B., the primary couple of the show, who seemed to be together during the time jump, but now the question is: How will their relationship be tested? Because it always is. 

Overall, there’s a lot to get excited about with Season 4 of Outer Banks. While it likely won’t premiere on the 2023 TV schedule, this little preview showed us that the clean and grown-up version of the Pogues are ready to turn and burn, and I can’t wait to see it.

Since Season 1 of Outer Banks fans have been pining after JJ and Kiara, hoping that the two Pogues would realize their feelings for each other and get together. Finally, after years of waiting, we got to see JJ and Kiara become Jiara, officially in Season 3 of OBX. Now, Madison Bailey and Rudy Pankow are opening up about seeing their characters’ relationship flourish, and how thrilled they are seeing the popular ship set sail. 

Starting in Season 1 fans had been wanting to see JJ and Kiara get together due to the actor’s electric chemistry. However, Madison Bailey’s character ended up with Pope at first, and when they broke up in Season 2, it felt like it was finally time for Jiara. Thankfully, Season 3 brought Kiara and JJ together, and Madison Bailey told CinemaBlend just how excited she is to see the two on screen:

Wild indeed. While Kiara has stayed in the treasure hunt for John B. and Pope in the first two seasons, this time around her relationship with JJ was front and center, showing off those commonalities Bailey mentioned. Throughout Season 3 Kiara ends up in a few precarious situations, and Rudy Pankow’s character is always there to save her. While talking to TV Line, Bailey explained that the Pogues’ time on the stranded island provided clarity for her character regarding her feelings about JJ. As the season progresses it’s clear that the two have deep feelings for each other, however, they don’t act on them until the very end. 

Pankow explained that he’s excited for fans to finally see JJ and Kiara’s slow burn of a story unfold, saying:

As Pankow noted, I’m also a massive fan of Outer Banks, and as a fan, I’ve been waiting for this moment between JJ and Kiara for ages. So, to finally see them acknowledge their feelings for each other, and start their relationship was very fulfilling. And by the end of OBX, it really felt like we had got what we’d been waiting so long for. Their sweet relationship gives the show a level of intimacy that provides a nice juxtaposition to the big action that is going on most of the time. With every time John B. almost dies, it’s important to have another heartfelt wholesome moment, and this season we got a couple of scenes exactly like that from JJ and Kiara as their friendship evolved into a relationship. 

Luckily we’ll get to see more of JJ, Kiara and the rest of the Pogues now that the 2023 TV schedule hit has been renewed for Season 4. Hopefully, we’ll get to see Jiara’s relationship flourish further, because not only do the fans want it, the actors are also excited about the couple’s potential on Outer Banks. 

Spoilers for Season 3 of Outer Banks ahead! Read with caution, and be sure to check out the latest season of OBX with a Netflix subscription.

In the Outer Banks, there are the Kooks and the Pogues, sworn enemies that feel like they're inspired by the Capulets and the Montagues. However, on Outer Banks, there is one Kook, named Topper, who seems to have a soft spot for one of the characters who turns into a Pogue, and because of that, his character is always switching sides. So, when I sat down with the cast of OBX I asked Austin North about Topper’s ever-evolving relationship with John B. and co., and why he’s constantly switching sides. 

While talking about Season 3 of Outer Banks Austin North and discussed Topper, and his allegiances. As a Kook, he’s one of the Pogues' biggest foes. However, his character has been in love with Sarah Cameron since day one, and because of that, his loyalties tend to shift depending on what Madelyn Cline’s character is up to. The actor broke down this changing relationship, especially in terms of how Topper feels during the third season, saying:

The maturity level is for sure different this season. In the first installment of Outer Banks, we saw Topper instigate fights with the Pogues, cause one of John B.’s most serious near-death moments, and start a few literal and figurative fires. However, he always has moments of sympathy where he’ll help them out because of Sarah -- like when he pretends to be John B. in Season 1 so the lead Pogue and Sarah can escape -- and in Season 3 he has quite a few of those moments too. 

It becomes clear early on that the action and stakes are way higher in OBX’s third season in comparison to the first two. This means there are more characters in on the Pogues' shenanigans and adventures, and that includes Topper, who helps the crew out. After rekindling his relationship with Sarah, and seeing potential sparks between the two, as Madelyn Cline told ExtraTV, North’s character is a lot more willing to help the group out and provides a major assist in their train heist, however, that eventually changes. 

As mentioned earlier, Topper’s relationship with the Pogues is constantly changing, and while he helps them out quite a bit in Season 3, he also turns against them by burning down John B.’s house after finding out Sarah had gone back to Chase Stokes' character. So, while North is right, the Kook is a bit more “mature” than in seasons before, ultimately Topper goes back to his old ways, and really can’t stand this band of treasure hunters, especially their leader. 

While Season 3 of Outer Banks has its moment on the 2023 TV schedule, and with Season 4 on the way, I’m curious to see how Topper’s relationship with the Pogues will evolve, and if he’ll either help or harm them in the next installment. If we’ve learned anything, this guy’s relationship with the crew changes all the time, however, Season 3 proved that Topper has definitely evolved, however, deep down it seems like he’s still the same Kook we met in Season 1.

Now that Season 3 of Outer Banks is finally here, fans are devouring the ten episodes, and they are starting to think about what adventures lie ahead for the beloved Pogues. The finale of the latest installment of OBX definitely changed the game with the death, destruction and cliffhanger at the very end, and with all that being said I think it’s time we break it all down, and think about how Season 3's ending will impact Season 4. 

The Pogues Made It To El Dorado, But Things Went South (Literally And Figuratively) 

The entire Season 3 finale takes place at El Dorado, as the Pogues and their enemies made the long journey to find the city of gold. Luckily, John B. and Sarah found the treasure first. However, they were being hunted by the season’s big bad Singh and co. so, when they emerge from the cave the city is hidden in they are met with a life-threatening stand-off. 

A triumphant moment almost immediately turns into a near-fatal one, as Singh threatens to kill everyone for the gold. While John B. has had his fair share of near-death moments, this one is the scariest and the most important time because of how hard they had all worked to get to this point. While Sarah, John B. and his father Big John eventually get away from Singh by way of a big explosion, the problems don’t stop there, because the moments following them finding the treasure and escaping the big bad are the ones that lead to two major deaths. 

Two Major Deaths Offer Moments Of Closure For Key Outer Banks Characters

Following the trio escaping the cave, they all have a nice moment to take in that they finally found the gold they had been looking for all season. However, that moment is short-lived because Sarah’s dad Ward shows up, pointing a gun at Big John. Throughout the seasons both Ward and Big John have been major points of turmoil for John B. and Sarah, because both dads are greedy, and have caused their kids a lot of harm. This moment is no different as the Cameron patriarch threatens to kill our lead Pogue's father. 

Throughout all Season 3 we’ve seen both John B. and Sarah struggle to make sense of their complex relationships with their fathers, and the final moments of the finale were tragic for them, however, also offered some closure. 

For Sarah, her dad has caused her major strife, as he’s tried to kill her and John B. multiple times throughout the seasons. Even though he had malicious intent at the beginning of this final sequence, he ended up sacrificing himself for his daughter, putting himself in front of everyone else and getting fatally shot. While Sarah lost her father, which is tragic, as a viewer I also couldn’t help but feel a bit of relief for her. That is because this evil human who had plagued her life found a way to redeem himself in a way, and show that deep down he really did love her. 

John B.’s dad also faced a tragic end, and Chase Stokes has been open about why he felt so connected to John B.’s story with Big John and the complexities of their relationship that ultimately led to this bittersweet end. Their story came to a close as the crew sailed back to safety. Big John had sustained a serious injury earlier, and ultimately ended up passing away before they could get to a doctor. However, while it’s sad he died, and John B. had to deal with his dad’s death again (since he had thought he was dead for the first two seasons), it was also a moment of closure because our protagonist had finally fulfilled the quest his father began so long ago. 

While tragic, Ward and Big John caused big problems in their kids' lives, and in these final moments, they were able to redeem themselves, and go out in a heroic fashion. Losing a parent is never easy, however, these deaths signify the closing of a traumatizing chapter for John B. and Sarah and allow them to move on and ultimately heal.

The Final Seconds Set Up The Next Adventure For Outer Banks Season 4

We started with the gold, then it was the cross, then things started to veer toward Pirates of the Caribbean territory with El Dorado, and now we’re moving even further into that realm with Season 4. Why do I say this, you might ask, because, the final moment of the season features our band of Pogues being approached about a treasure hunt involving Edward Teach AKA Blackbeard. 

With the dads dead, and the crew growing up a bit, it seems like now the characters are going from kids cluelessly hunting treasure to employed treasure hunters. After seeing the mysterious man show up and present the famous pirate’s captain's log, it seems like they’ll be going on a journey to find something of Blackbeard’s, however, we’ll have to wait to see what happens from there, because the season ends before the crew can say yes or no to this man’s proposal. 

While we don’t know what exactly this treasure hunt will entail, it seems like things are about to get even crazier in Season 4, especially considering the small time jump, multiple problematic characters no longer being in the picture and the general trajectory of the show. Josh Pate, one of the creators of the show, broke down what this proposal mean for the Pogues moving forward, telling EW: 

So, while this season ends with a sense of closure that Seasons 1 and 2 didn’t have, it’s still a massive cliffhanger. That’s because we know these characters are about to set out on a journey even bigger than the first three, however, we have absolutely no idea what will come of it. 

Luckily we know Outer Banks will return for Season 4, because, unlike the cast, the characters will not tap out of the treasure hunt, and Netflix swiftly renewed the series. However, it will be a while before we see the Pogues go on the Blackbeard-based treasure hunt. So, while we wait for and hypothesize about the next installment, you can watch Seasons 1 through 3 with a Netflix subscription, and be sure to check out the 2023 TV schedule to figure out what show you want to binge next.  

P4L means a lot to the Pogues on Outer Banks, and when one of them needs the crew, they are always there for each other, even when the adventure ahead is dangerous. Madison Bailey’s character Kiara takes this mantra, which is short for Pogues for Life, seriously, and with Season 3 of OBX out now the actress is getting real about why her character is still on this wild treasure hunt. 

While the cast of Outer Banks chatted with CinemaBlend about when they would have personally tapped out of the treasure hunt, they also talked about what keeps their characters in this crazy adventure. Bailey spoke specifically about why Kiara, a Kook turned Pogue, is so devoted to her friends and this quest, saying:

Throughout Seasons 1 and 2 of Outer Banks Kiara has always been there for her fellow Pogues. The first installment of the action-packed show focused on John B. and his hunt for gold. JJ, Pope and Kiara followed him, and helped him find it, then in the second season, Pope had a personal connection to the gold cross they were trying to hunt down.  In both seasons Kie was always there to support her pals, even though it resulted in her getting in big, big trouble with her parents, ending up in dangerous situations and eventually getting stranded on an island. However, as Bailey pointed out, she’s willing to do this because of how much she loves her friends. 

Minor spoilers for Season 3 ahead, read with caution. 

Now, with Season 3 here, Kiara is facing even bigger challenges because of this treasure hunt, both physically and mentally, however, she stays in it all the way to the bitter end. It’s revealed in the trailer for OBX that Bailey’s character ends up separated from the crew, and held hostage by the big bad. Following that scary situation, Kiara has to deal with her parents threatening to send her to boarding school, and away from her friends. Bailey posted some behind-the-scenes moments on her Instagram from this season that included photos of her looking over a cliff, and near a motorcycle, giving a hint as to how intense Kie's story is this season. 

While it’s a bit surprising to see all the Pogues continue on this treasure hunt, especially knowing how many times John B. almost dies in the show, their allegiance to each other and their drive to find the treasure is commendable, and really shows how much this group of friends love each other.

While all of us Outer Banks fans have known about Madelyn Cline since Sarah Cameron came on the screen in Season 1, many were introduced to her when she appeared in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery as Whiskey. This hit whodunnit marks the biggest movie the actress has been in, and the most famous cast she’s ever worked with. Now, as Season 3 of Outer Banks premieres on the 2023 TV schedule, the actress is looking back at her time on Rian Johnson’s film, and how that impacted her performance in the latest season of the hit Netflix adventure series. 

I think what differentiates the experience of working with the Outer Banks cast as opposed to the Glass Onion cast is the fact that Cline has come up in the industry with her OBX co-stars, whereas she was joining an ensemble of well-established actors in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel. The actress reflected on going from the set of the whodunnit back to the world of the Pogues, and the lessons she brought back to the Outer Banks, telling EW:

Obviously working with actors like Daniel Craig, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista and more, would be a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience for anyone, however, Cline explained she had no idea just how transformative her time on Glass Onion would be. As she prepared to return to the Outer Banks she thought about everything she took away from her time on the Knives Out mystery, and said:

I’d assume seeing A-list actors like the A-list Glass Onion ensemble ask for another take, and really work to be the best they can be would have not only been enlightening, but reassuring. Cline noted how physically and emotionally demanding Outer Banks is to film (I mean her beau John B. almost dies in every episode), and having the confidence to ask questions, and run things one more time, must have made her job in Season 3 much easier. She also noted how demanding Sarah's story is this season, and she said the lessons she learned allowed her to take Sarah to new heights.  

While Cline and the OBX cast admitted they would have tapped out of the treasure hunt a long time ago, the Pogues are still at it, and the actress is still on this wild adventure as Sarah Cameron. Luckily, between seasons of the hit show, the actors on Outer Banks have had time to take on other projects. So, Cline got to join the cast of Glass Onion, learn loads, and bring it all back to enhance her performance in Season 3 of Netflix's hit series. 

With each passing season of Outer Banks, the stakes get higher and our band of Pogues seem to find themselves in precarious situation after precarious situation. So, now that the third season of OBX is set to debut on the 2023 TV schedule, it felt fitting to ask the stars of the hit Netflix series if they, themselves, would have tapped out of the treasure hunt by now. Madelyn Cline, Chase Stokes and Drew Starkey weighed in on when they’d back out, and let’s just say it would have been well before the third season. 

We’ll start with Madelyn Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron. Ever since she started dating John B. she has found herself in many death-defying situations, but especially in Season 2. The actress told CinemaBlend that if she were in Sarah’s shoes, there’s no way she would have survived a near-fatal moment her character went through in the show's second installment. When asked if she’d tap out, without hesitation, she said:

I'm with her. Being shot, along with the lack of showers would be a big no for me too. However, while Cline said she would have been done by now, she would have made it pretty far, considering Sarah gets shot in Season 2. 

As for Chase Stokes, he seemed to be fully aware that John B. almost dies in every episode (I’d know, I counted), and pointed to a big moment from Season 1 where he would have backed away.

The episode Stokes is referencing involves Sarah’s dad Ward literally trying to murder him. His character ends up zooming away on a jet ski, but rather than stopping there, the treasure hunt continues. Stokes’ co-star Jonathan Daviss chimed in on that scene too, humorously saying:  

Stokes rounded out his answer saying that since his character is an orphan, he would have given up there, and just gone into child services. Noting the gold is not worth being murdered over. 

Considering John B. has almost died 20 times in the first two seasons of Outer Banks, and knowing Season 3 is even more action-packed based on the trailer, I think our lead Pogue should have acted the way the actor who plays him would have. 

While both Stokes and Cline made it sound like they’d at least give the adventure a good college try, Drew Starkey, who plays the show’s antagonist Rafe Cameron, said he wouldn't even make it past day two. The actor explained: 

Starkey’s co-star Austin North then noted that the payout is $500 million, but the actor behind Rafe wasn’t having it. He said:

I’m with Starkey, I’d also be a lost cause. It seems like the other actors would too, because none of them would have even made it to the part of the show where the Pogues get stranded on a deserted island. 

Madelyn Cline noted that Season 3 shows how the Pogues have “outlasted everyone,” to EW. And lucky for us, we’ll get to see what trouble they get into next and how they survive it very soon as Season 3 premieres on February 23, and all you need is a Netflix subscription. 

However, let it be known that the cast themselves, would not have made it this long. 

Having struck gold with a hit Netflix original TV show that is dropping its third season in 2023 and putting on a scene-stealing performance as "Whiskey" in the star-studded Glass Onion cast in 2022, I think it is safe to say that Madelyn Cline has "made it." Of course, whenever a bright, young talent such as the Outer Banks cast member reaches a certain point of pristine notoriety in their career, we feel obligated to ponder the ultimate question: are there upcoming Marvel movies in their future, and when?

While neither portion of that question has a definitive answer yet, that has never stopped us from indulging in speculation over which of the many comic book heroes (or villains) that have yet to be cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or in Sony's own realm, even) would be a great fit for the actor of the hour. In the case of Madelyn Cline, there are several Marvel characters that come to mind as a potential opportunity for her superhero movies debut – if and when that happens. The following are our favorite characters for consideration.

The Blonde Phantom

While I think most would agree that Madelyn Cline's performance as Whiskey was one of the highlights of the Netflix original follow-up to Knives Out, it was a little disappointing that her character did not get to do much sleuthing of her own. Thus, I recommend making her the star of her own mystery movie and that chance, very well, could lie in the MCU's future.

One of the most famous, yet underrated, detective characters in Marvel Comics history is Louise Grant, who once worked as a secretary for a private detective before donning a mask and taking justice into her own hands as The Blonde Phantom. As someone who would love to see more period pieces in the MCU, I think it would be thrilling to see Cline lead a 1940s-set detective noir film in this role.

Layla Miller

On second thought, if there are no plan future plans for any more period dramas in the MCU, I have the perfect alternative in mind for Madelyn Cline. In fact, this character is probably a much better detective than The Blonde Phantom ever could be.

Layla Miller is a mutant with a unique set of abilities, including bringing the dead back to life, predicting the future, and a resistance to reality-warping spells – the latter of which made her (as CBR points out) one of the few people unaffected by Scarlet Witch's hex in Marvel's House of M comic book storyline. While that famous crossover story already served as an inspiration for the Disney+ series WandaVision, I would hope the MCU could somehow still find a good way to include Layla when they finally reboot the X-Men movies. 

Moondragon

One aspect of Madelyn Cline's performance in Glass Onion that certainly did not disappoint was her great chemistry with Dave Bautista as Whiskey's boyfriend, Duke Cody. This gave me an interesting idea for a potential Marvel movies role for her that would flip the script quite a bit.

In the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Bautista's version of Drax mourns the death of his wife and children, but in the comics, the human-turned-alien's daughter goes on to become a badass, telepathic cosmic warrior known as Moondragon. Her hypothetical MCU induction would have to take some major liberties, but I think it would be worth it.

Hepzibah

Moondragon is not the only extra-terrestrial hero possible for Madelyn Cline. The inspiration for this next character was her role on Netflix's Outer Banks, which is, essentially, a modern, coming-of-age take on a classic pirate story, right? 

Why not cast her as a different kind of pirate who, instead of the high seas, plunders outer space with her crew of cosmic outlaws known as the Starjammers? The specific character in mind is Hepzibah, who is part of an athletic, skunk-like alien race called the Mephitisoids and has been known to fight alongside the X-Men.

Mercury

There is one more X-Men character for Madelyn Cline I have in mind. The inspiration for this one came from one of her earlier small screen credits: the acclaimed HBO comedy series Vice Principals, on which she played a cheerleader named Taylor Watts.

Why not cast her as someone who used to be a cheerleader until her late-blooming mutation cut that career short? The Marvel character in question is named Cessily Kincaid, but is referred to as Mercury for her having skin that behaves like liquid-metal.

Black Cat

Thinking about it more, Madelyn Cline's MCU debut should really be in the role of someone especially recognizable and highly anticipated. Felicia Hardy – better known as Black Cat – is a character worthy of that kind of anticipation.

For if and when that does happen (which is more likely now than ever following the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home), I think Cline would be a great fit for the role. She already has the looks and the spunk and would only need some platinum hair dye to complete the transformation.

Spider-Gwen

If not Black Cat, there is another character with ties to Spider-Man that might be an even greater honor to finally bring to the big screen in a live-action movie. The thing is, of course, that it would have to be in a movie taking place in a different realm of the Marvel Multiverse, which already sounds fun enough.

In Earth-65, Gwen Stacy never died, but Peter Parker did and inspired the spider-bitten teen to become Spider-Woman, whom Hailee Steinfeld portrayed beautifully in the brilliant animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Of course, since Steinfeld already has an MCU role claimed, Madelyn Cline could be a good fit for the role in live-action.

Of course, there is the possibility that Sydney Sweeney is playing Gwen Stacy in Sony's upcoming Madame Web movie. If that turns out to be true, maybe any upcoming DC movies are in Madelyn Cline's future instead?

Major Spoilers for ALL of Outer Banks, including Season 3 ahead.

I think it’s time we address the death-defying elephant in the room when it comes to Outer Banks. Said elephant goes by the name of John B. and if you’ve been paying attention to OBX like I have since Season 1, you will have likely noticed that our main character finds himself staring death in the face in what feels like every episode. So, to see if this feeling was correct, and considering Season 3 of Outer Banks is finally here, I rewatched all of OBX, and counted the number of times our boy John B. almost dies, so you don’t have to.

With that said, let’s break down John B.’s 27 near-death moments, and reflect on all the ways our favorite Pogue keeps finding himself on the verge of death.

John B. Almost Dies The Most Times In Season 1 Of Outer Banks

From the jump, it is made clear that our main character is reckless, fearless and injury prone. In the first frames of the pilot, we see John B. standing on a roof, right on the edge, and Pope telling him he has a one in three chance of survival. This precarious balancing act really sets the tone for an action-packed episode, that led to a little less than half of John B.’s near-death moments in Season 1. 

Throughout Episode 1 John B. finds himself in many reckless, but not necessarily deadly situations. He surfs during a hurricane and gets in a fight with Sarah’s boyfriend Topper, which scares everyone, and leaves Chase Stokes’ character with a black eye. However, the first near-death moment comes when he gets chased by men with guns. The chase involved the four Pogues driving a boat away from two men who were shooting at them. 

The show’s second episode featured John B. being chased by thugs which led to him being almost hit by a truck, climbing an eclectic fence, and getting shocked by said fence. In this case, luckily the cops showed up right on time. 

Episodes 3 and 4 involve lots of other characters getting beat up, however, John B. goes mostly unscathed. Episode 3 involves Pope getting jumped, JJ almost getting shot and the two sinking a boat. Then, in Episode 4 the show's protagonist runs away from the cops, steals and crashes a bike, and Sarah yells at him, and I quote: “Did you just yeet over that chain?” It might have been dangerous, but by no means deadly. 

Now, Episode 5 is probably one of the biggest near-death moments for John B. At the end of the episode, Topper pushes him off the Hawks Nest (which is a very tall watch tower), and it was, as my phone notes say, a “hella big fall.” Somehow he only ended up with a concussion and a broken wrist. 

There’s not much to report on our very specific front for Episode 6, however, this does mark the moment when the crew finds the gold. Although, there is one dangerous moment when a blind woman tries to shoot all the Pogues since they broke into her house. 

Episode 7 sees Ward, Sarah’s dad trying to kill John B. with a fish hook. This moment continues into Episode 8 where we get the full sequence of John B. trying to escape death via jet ski. In the same episode, he also drives his van next to an airplane and drifts in front of it, causing another near-death moment. 

Episodes 9 and 10 see the end of our first treasure hunt and two near-death moments. In the penultimate installment, a church gets set on fire that John B. is believed to be in, however, he escapes and Topper is there in his place. Then in our finale, we get a real hail mary when John B. and Sarah drive a stolen boat into a major storm. The boat ends up capsizing, and the two lovebirds are floating on it Titanic style, like Jack and Rose. They are almost immediately saved, however, they could have easily not survived, and that’s where Season 1 ends.

Total After Season 1: 11

John B. Almost Dies A Little Less In Season 2 Of OBX

The ante is for sure upped, and the crew sets out on another treasure hunt for a massive gold cross in Season 2. However, the number of times John B. almost dies is down from Season 1, because this time around no one in the OBX cast is safe. 

We kick things off, right where we left off – John B. and Sarah are saved by a passing boat, but quickly turn into hostages. The boat’s captain Terrance holds the Pogues at knifepoint, and from then on our favorite OBX couple is running for their lives. 

After getting off the boat, they are soon found by Sarah’s murderous father and her brother Rafe. Episode 2 involves Rafe pointing a gun at John B., and then he literally shoots his sister. Sarah nearly dies, for real, and the two find a doctor who helps her heal, which is handled in Episode 3. 

Episodes 4 and 5 proved to be especially dangerous episodes for our boy, as he and Sarah make their way to Charleston. While they are in the city, they realize their fellow Pogues are also there in a near-fatal way, as JJ, Pope and Kiara almost hit them with their truck. And the action doesn't stop there, oh no, this episode ends with the crew getting chased through a swamp by cops with guns, and John B. gets arrested. Then in Episode 5, he gets put in prison, and an inmate tries to choke him to death. 

After two rough episodes, the next two are relatively calm for John B. Notably, this is when Ward fakes his death, so there’s that. 

Episode 8 proves Rudy Pankow's description of the show, as the actor behind JJ called OBX an “off the rails” treasure hunt in a story for EW, and it's also my personal favorite near-death moment. In this episode John B. gets attacked by an alligator, yep, you read that correctly. The guy nearly drowns while his pals try to save him, and then later in the episode, JJ reminds him that “you were almost dinner for a frickin gator, bro.” 

The final two episodes, like Season 1, are a doozy. However, Episode 9 features more near-death moments from other characters, rather than John B. Although, he does almost bite the dust when Pope crashes Kiara’s dad’s truck with everyone in it. Speaking of Pope, he’s the character who almost ends up not surviving the episode due to an allergy attack after being around wasps while in a rafter. 

Episode 10, brought lots of dangerous moments for our crew. They find themselves on a massive ship trying to get the treasure while Ward, who is not actually dead, tries to kill them. Specifically, the Cameron patriarch beats John B. up when he tries to save Sarah, and it’s very intense. Then all the Pogues end up going overboard in various ways, and our two lovebirds use a dinghy to save them. Once all six of the kids are in the lifeboat they get away, in a relatively safe manner. 

The season ends with the crew stranded on an island. While they clearly survive, since the show was renewed for a third season, we don’t know how long they’re going to be stuck there, therefore it counts. 

Total After Season 2: 9

Season 3 Of Outer Banks Brought A Lot Of Action, But Not As Many Near John B. Deaths

Season 3 of Outer Banks is interesting in comparison to the other two installments because while the adventure is undeniably bigger, John B. doesn’t almost die as many times. Don’t get me wrong, our boy almost bites the dust on multiple occasions throughout the season, however, it’s just not as many times as we’ve grown to expect. 

We started the season off with our merry band of Pogues stranded on the deserted island discussed in Season 2. It’s clear that they are thriving on that island, and therefore it does not count toward our tally, however, when a mysterious plane shows up, that’s when the danger begins. 

Since the crew had no way off the island they got on this random man’s plane in the hopes that he'll help. However, he turns out to be a bad guy, and crash-lands the aircraft in the water near Barbados. The Pogues are then separated, and Kiara is taken to Singh, this season’s big bad, while the rest of the group tries to find her. 

In Episode 2, they find Kie, however, the crew ends up in a standoff situation with Singh’s henchmen. This culminates in all of them plummeting down an elevator shaft, and of course, John B. falls down it while getting shot at. Following their escape from Barbados, the crew gets back to the OBX, and Episodes 3 through 5 are fairly uneventful for John B. However, Episode 5 does involve the train heist, where JJ flies over an overpass on a motorcycle, which has nothing to do with our boy, but it is worth mentioning. 

The action is back in Episode 6 as John B. and his dad, Big John, hunt down clues to find El Dorado. While on the hunt, they are found by Singh’s guys, and the father-son-duo gets poison darts shot at them. This didn’t impact our main protagonist, however, after that, John B. is taken by Singh, who holds a gun to his head and almost poisons him.  

Following Singh getting to Charleston things really heat up, literally and figuratively. In Episode 7 John B. and JJ get attacked by a man with a machete, and then their boat gets shot at. Then in Episode, 8 Topper burns down John B.’s house with everyone in it, showing that while he had evolved in Season 3, the Kook will always go back to his old ways. 

The penultimate episode brings no near-death moments, however, we go out with a bang (pun intended) in Episode 10. As the Pogues and their foes make their way to the lost city of gold, the race becomes one of life and death. John B., Big John and Sarah find the treasure first, however after they emerge from the cave they are attacked by Singh and co. That battle ends with a big dynamite explosion that sends everyone flying, including John B. Following that scary moment, the kids are attacked, and John B. gets another gun pointed at his head. Ward ends up saving them all by taking the shots, and falling his death. This final standoff also results in Big John’s death. So, while we lost two dads at the end of Season 3, John B. is still kicking and ready to go on another treasure hunt. 

Total After Season 3: 7

Grand Total: 27 – This means John B. almost dies on average .9 times per episode.

What can I say, John B. somehow always finds himself in trouble and approaches death’s door. However, he hasn’t bit the bullet yet, and with Season 4 officially on the way, I'm sure our lead Pogue and his crew will find themselves in more precarious situations.

The adventures of John B. and the Pogues on Outer Banks can feel suspended above reality at times as they go on treasure hunts that occasionally reach similar levels of danger and surprise as an Indiana Jones movie. However, beneath the big action and surprising twists are a group of relatable characters, and this season Chase Stokes, who plays John B. revealed the very personal reason he really connected to the Pogues leader while filming Season 3 of OBX. 

Following the Season 2 finale, when we found out John B.’s dad Big John was actually alive, it became clear that even though the new season will feature the Pogues on the road to El Dorado, the father-son relationship will be at the heart of the story. In an interview with EW, Stokes spoke about the main character’s trajectory in the latest season of Outer Banks, and how his dad would play a big role in that. On top of this relationship deeply impacting the show, Stokes candidly spoke about how he could connect to John B. personally this season, because of his own experiences with his family. The actor said: 

Throughout the first two seasons of Outer Banks we’ve seen John B. struggle with the idea that his father might be dead. Now, that he’s alive, it will be interesting to see how their relationship develops, and how the young character will evolve with his father back in his life. Hearing that Stokes can relate to the central challenge his character is dealing with throughout the series, and to know that the actor was able to find a sort of catharsis by living out John B.’s story is very touching. 

I know one of the big questions I had about Season 3 of Outer Banks revolved around John B.’s relationship with his father. So, hearing how big of a character John B.’s dad is among the Outer Banks cast this season, and knowing how personal it is to Stokes makes me so excited to see how the next chapter of the Pogues story plays out. 

Season 3 of Outer Banks premieres as part of the 2023 TV schedule on February 23, and in the meantime, you can catch up on Seasons 1 and 2 of OBX with a Netflix subscription. 

Dating a co-star, especially while making a TV show, can either end in matrimony or make things really awkward, and for Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline, their relationship sadly didn’t stand the test of time, and then they had to go back to work together on Season 3 of Outer Banks. However, it turns out things weren’t all that awkward in paradise as the two actors opened up about working together post-breakup, and how they still have a lot of love and respect for each other.  

For some context, after the first season of OBX the two actors started dating in real life. They were together from June 2020 to November 2021, and now seem to both be in other relationships. However, in the time since their break up, they’ve been seen together with the rest of the cast, as friends. Stokes talked about working with Cline this season, and how their relationship has evolved since their breakup, explaining to EW: 

From the first trailer of Outer Banks, it looks like a quest is afoot, and when it comes to Sarah and John B.’s relationship they are still together. And while things might get complex for some characters in a love triangle, when it comes to Stokes and Clines’ characters they still seem to be head over heels for each other. 

Cline noted that she’s proud of how the two worked together on Season 3, saying they’ve “always shown up for each other." The actress behind Sarah continued to talk about her relationship with Stokes, saying:

To prove further that the two are on good terms following their break-up, Stokes had some great things to say about Cline’s recent roles, including her part as Whiskey in the Glass Onion cast. The actor said: 

Jonas Pate, the co-creator of Outer Banks, explained that the actors’ relationship ending has not impacted the show at all. John B. and Sarah’s romance was not altered because of Stokes and Clines’ status as a couple, and fans can expect surprises in the show, but not because of the two breaking up in real life. 

It’s nice to know that even though Cline and Stokes are no longer romantically involved off-screen, they still get along and are ready and willing to support each other. On top of knowing they have an amicable relationship in real life, it’s also reassuring to know their breakup hasn't impacted the plot of the show. We’re still gonna get lots of John B. and Sarah content in the same way we have in Seasons 1 and 2.

It's almost time to go back to the OBX with our favorite castaways! With Season 3 of Outer Banks coming soon, the first full trailer has finally dropped for Netflix's hit series, and it teases major returns by unexpected characters, big action and the Pogues going on a journey to El Dorado. 

Following the shocking Season 2 finale, a lot was left up in the air, and with Season 3 slated on the 2023 TV schedule for February 23, we’ll finally get to see what happens to the Pogues soon. I’d say based on this trailer, we’re going to be in for a wildly dangerous ride as the cast of Outer Banks goes on what looks like their biggest adventure yet. 

Big Characters Were Revealed In The Outer Banks Season 3 Trailer

Breaking the trailer down a bit, we found out one major character is making his return, and then there was a huge reveal of a character we all thought was dead. 

The massive reveal in this trailer is that John B.'s dad, Big John is in fact not dead. He's been in hiding, and the trailer shows the reunion of the father and son duo played by Charles Halford and Chase Stokes, respectively. John B. mentions in the video that the treasure was always a way out for him and his father, well, now it looks like they’ll be on that treasure hunt together. 

The other big reveal came with the revelation that Sarah Cameron's dad, Ward is still kicking and trying to take down the Pogues. However, the trailer also teased an unlikely bargain between the father and daughter, which will be interesting to see play out. So, I think it's safe to say with Ward 100% in the picture, the season will be more dangerous and action-packed because of it. 

The Outer Banks Trailer Teases Big Action

Like the two seasons before it, the Season 3 trailer teases big action and epic set pieces. Considering when we left the Pogues they were stranded on a deserted island, and from teaser images, we know they get off the island a new, more dangerous, adventure is bound to happen. I'd imagine because of all this we're in for some epic sequences as the young castaways make their way back to the Outer Banks, and apparently journey to El Dorado.

From a plane showing up on the island to watching Pope and JJ slide down an elevator shaft, to motorcycle stunts, exciting (and scary) chases through a jungle, and I’d assume much, much more, this is going to be an action-packed death-defying adventure. That's because if there’s one thing I know about Outer Banks: they know how to raise the stakes and push these characters to their limits by way of big action and dangerous adventure. 

The Pogues Are On The Road To El Dorado

That's right, this season the treasure hunt is to find the lost city of El Dorado. If you thought gold and a giant gold cross weren't enough, well neither did the OBX team, because this season they're going on a bigger journey than ever before. 

In the voice over, John B. says he’s starting to wonder if the treasure was something to fight for or simply a trap. It seems like a little bit of both, as the trailer shows Kiara looking at who I’d presume is the big bad, while he talks to her about El Dorado, and if her friends know anything about it. 

While there are still a lot of questions surrounding Season 3 of Outer Banks, this new trailer gave us a new look at the adventure ahead for the Pogues. And I think it’s safe to say it will be bigger and better than their first two quests. 

You’ll be able to watch Season 3 of Outer Banks in a few short weeks, but for now, you can watch the first two seasons of the hit series with a Netflix subscription. 

Following an explosive Season 2 finale, the Pogues are back, and it looks like things are going to get even more intense as we get into Season 3 of the hit Netflix series Outer Banks. After celebrating their Season 3 renewal and releasing a brief teaser for the highly anticipated show, the streamer finally announced the premiere date and dropped quite a few photos hinting at the plot for the new episodes. And based on what we're seeing it looks like we're getting a solution to the finale’s cliffhanger and an already complex love triangle is about to get more complicated. 

Netflix’s Outer Banks is set to return on February 23 on the 2023 TV schedule. This means we’re finally going to find out how the Pogues get off the island they were stranded on in the finale, and what trouble they get into next. In Netflix's statement about Season 3, the upcoming adventure was described as “the granddaddy of all treasure hunts,” and based on the photos alone that seems like a great way to describe the latest season of OBX.  

It Looks Like The Pogues Are Getting Off The Island, But That Doesn't Mean They’re Safe

As you can see in most of the photos Netflix dropped, but especially in this one of Kiara, the Pogues clearly get off the island they were stranded on at the end of Season 2. I don’t know about you, but the last time I checked gowns and elegant staircases were not standard for deserted islands. 

However, another photo from the season of Andy McQueen as Singh with Madison Bailey as Kiara in the background seems to allude to this man possibly being the new big bad. Based on other adventure movies and TV shows I’ve seen, it stands to reason that this house might just be scarier and more deadly than the deserted island. 

I’d also posit that based on the celebratory look on John B.’s face in the image at the top of this story, and the city in the background of the photo featuring Pope and Cleo (that you can see a bit further down) the island is not the main setting of Season 3. Honestly, I’d assume they make their way off the island within the first few episodes of the season. Although, this does not mean they make it all the way back to the Outer Banks this season. 

Is The Love Triangle Between Kiara, JJ And Pope Getting Even More Complicated?

The relationship between Kiara and the boys, especially JJ and Pope has always been complicated. Among Outer Banks’ cast of characters, the romantic relationships between Sarah and John B. as well as the inevitable love triangle between Kiara, JJ and Pope have always been mainstays on the hit show. 

During Season 2, we saw Pope and Kiara try their hand at a relationship, however, they eventually called it off. Now, based on this intimate photo of JJ and Kiara it looks like they are even closer to being together than ever before. The two have always had eclectic chemistry, however, JJ hasn’t really tried to pursue anything, especially while she dated Pope. However, this photo seems to allude to the two finally moving past the friend zone. 

What makes this love triangle more complicated is the addition of Cleo in the mix. Based on this photo of Pope and Cleo it looks like things might be heating up between the two. So I guess that makes this a love square? 

I’d assume since this show is a classic teen drama, jealousy will fly in all directions, especially when it comes to JJ, Kiara and Pope, and the four characters will have to face their feelings for each other come Season 3. 

Based on these photos, it looks like the stage is set for another season of Outer Banks that is poised to one-up itself yet again with its intense quest, complex relationships and death-defying journey. Lucky for you, you won’t have to wait very long to see what happens to the Pogues next, because you’ll be able to watch Season 3 next month, and all you need is a Netflix subscription. 

One of Netflix’s biggest shows in the last couple of years has been Outer Banks. From its premiere back in 2020 when it dominated the Netflix charts, to the second season premiere in 2021, the show has continued to prove how loved it is by its fans. 

But, after a successful Season 2, which left plenty of questions, one can only wonder what Season 3 of the popular series might bring. But thankfully, we already know plenty about Season 3. Stay tuned, as we have some quick things about Outer Banks Season 3 that you might want to know.  

Outer Banks Season 3 Is Going To Premiere In February 2023

Originally, Season 3 for Outer Banks was announced by Netflix on Twitter when the  streaming platform took to social media, but now it’s been confirmed when the show will come out – February, 2023. 

According to Deadline, the third season of the popular teen drama is premiering on February 23. That means that we can add this awesome premiere to our 2023 premiere schedule. Mark me down as super excited.    

Most Of The Main Cast Will Return

As was expected, it’s been announced that most of the Outer Banks cast will be returning. The same Deadline article above gave a synopsis of the upcoming series, featuring the characters and actors that we all know and love. This includes Madison Bailey, Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Charles Esten, and Drew Starkey. 

Also confirmed to star for Season 3 are Austin North, Cullen Moss, Caroline Arapoglou, Julia Antonelli, E. Roger Mitchell, Charles Halford, and Elizabeth Mitchell. 

It’s exciting to see everyone come back around for Season 3, and I can’t wait to see what else they do. 

Several New Cast Members Have Joined, Too

While we do enjoy the cast members that we have grown to love over time, there’s always room for more in a show like Outer Banks. According to Deadline, three new cast members have signed on to the series – Andy McQueen, Fiona Palomo, and Lou Ferrigno Jr.

These three actors have done plenty already in movies and TV. McQueen appeared in shows such as Station 11 and Coroner. Palomo was a part of the Control z series, and had several other guest spots on TV shows. Ferrigno Jr. was most recently in S.W.A.T. and Stargirl. It’s super exciting to have new cast members join and I can’t wait to see what characters they play.  

Carlacia Grant Has Been Promoted To Series Regular

Another great piece of news that came from the Deadline article regarding a new trailer for Season 3 was that Carlacia Grant, known for her character, Cleo, in Outer Banks, has been promoted to series regular, up from her past role as a recurring character. 

Grant spoke about her character in an interview with Hello Giggles in September 2021, and how she’s so excited for what Cleo has to offer and loves that the fans have loved her just as much as she has:  

I, for one, can’t wait to see where Outer Banks takes Cleo, and I’m super excited to see what else her story holds.  

The Plot Of Outer Banks Season 3 Sees The Pogues In Trouble

When the renewal for Season 3 of Outer Banks happened, fans were left wondering what on earth could be next for this show – especially after the massive cliffhanger that came with the Season 2 finale. But now, according to the January 2023 Deadline article, we have an idea of what Season 3 is going to be about. 

The island that the Pogues washed up on is now called “Poguelandia,” and everyone there is enjoying the sun, swimming, and having fun living without responsibilities, but all the characters we know and love end up finding themselves in a dramatic situation again when not only are they racing to find the treasure, but running for their lives as danger comes. They have no money, no allies, and plenty of people are on the hunt for them, including Ward and Rage. And now, they have to find a way to work together to somehow survive what is being thrown at them. 

In the teaser trailer that was released in September 2022, we do see plenty of fun stuff happening, from wild dog chases to car races and everything else in between, so the storyline for Season 3 looks like it’s going to be a fun time.

Jonathan Daviss Said Season 3 Is Ready To Answer 'Many Questions'

With all the questions I’m sure we all have about the ending of Season 2 of Outer Banks, Jonathan Daviss gave us the best response we can ask for right now - that we’re going to get answers. 

In an interview with his co-stars on Entertainment Tonight, Daviss, who plays Pope in Outer Banks, confirmed that Season 3 should deliver a lot of answers for the questions we have.  

Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara in the show, agreed with his sentiment about how she felt reading the script for the first time, saying that she needed to know everything. 

Now, with Season 3 on the way, hopefully their information was correct and we’ll get the answers to a lot of questions soon. 

Filming Wrapped In September 2022

Since there is a teaser for the new season, one can only wonder when filming started after it was initially announced that Season 3 was coming for Outer Banks. According to an Instagram post by assistant director Michael G. Jefferson, the third season of the show officially wrapped filming in September, 2022, and the news was accompanied by a picture of the crew behind the scenes. 

Josh And Jonas Pate, And Shannon Burke, Will Return As Outer Banks Showrunners For Season 3

Per the Deadline article talking about the Season 3 trailer, we know that Josh and Jonas Pate, as well as Shannon Burke, are again going to act as the showrunners for Outer Banks Season 3.

Released at the Tudum event for Netflix in September 2022, a teaser is now available to give us a first look at Season 3 of the popular teen drama. The teaser trailer features some awesome shots of the Pogues on the run again – as well as them having the time of their lives. Truly, it’s going to be a season to remember, and I can’t wait. Now that we know when Season 3 is coming out, the excitement is building, and I still think we can all agree that this is one of the best teen drama shows yet. The twists, the romance, and everything else has me all in tangles. I can’t wait to see where it goes next!  

Teen dramedies are a genre that I have been quite familiar with for some time now. I’ve adored watching them since I was actually a teenager, and even now I still find so much to love about them as a young adult. One of my favorites most recently has been the Netflix original series, Never Have I Ever, co-created by Mindy Kaling, that details the life of Devi, an Indian-American teenager who is just trying to navigate school and her own personal problems. 

It’s a great coming of age story and one that I recommend to anyone who wants to try a teen dramedy. But, since I binged Season 3 quite quickly - and Never Have I Ever is only returning for one more season in 2023 - I’m going to need something else to fill the time. The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon Prime)

First up on the list, we have the fun Amazon original series, The Summer I Turned Pretty. Based on the book of the same name, this series follows Isabel, otherwise known as Belly, who is super excited for her family’s annual trip to their friends’ beach house. But, this summer is different, as love is now thrown into the mix when two brothers fall for her. 

This is a great teen show. While it’s not necessarily a comedy like Never Have I Ever, the romance is just top tier. I feel like I’ve seen stories about this kind of friends-to-lovers story so many times before, but it’s done well in this show. The Summer I Turned Pretty cast is all so talented, and the story is fun as well. It’s only one season, so it’s certainly worth a shot.

On My Block (Netflix)

Moving on, we take a look at another one of my favorites, On My Block. This Netflix original series follows a group of teenagers as they begin high school in Los Angeles in the inner-city, trying to navigate their personal lives and school, and their friendship is put to the test. 

I love this show. It's one of the best teen dramedies out there because the representation this show has is just awesome. Not only that, but the storylines are balanced so effectively. Like Never Have I Ever, not only do you get some truly funny moments, but the show is able to handle themes that most teens dramedies don’t necessarily go towards that much, such as racism, poverty, sexism, and so much more. It’s such a great show - and one that you should definitely check out if you want to celebrate some of the best Latinx TV shows out there. With four seasons, it’s worth the time.

The Sex Lives Of College Girls (HBO Max)

This HBO Max original show is a hell of a fun time. The Sex Lives of College Girls follows a group of freshman living in the same dorm together and trying to learn the ways of college, but also have one goal in mind - to find love and have fun. 

As someone who is only two years out of college, I relate to this show on a whole other level because it wasn’t that long ago I was experiencing the same heartbreaks and happiness that these girls are facing. For fans of Never Have I Ever, Kaling also created this show, so it has a lot of the same comedic beats that you would expect, but the story is just as great, too. The cast of The Sex Lives of College Girls is also fantastic.

Derry Girls (Netflix)

Now, we take a look at a show that’s from across the pond. Derry Girls is a teen dramedy that follows a group of five girls who live in Derry, Ireland in the 1990s, and chronicles their adventures at a Catholic girls’ secondary school, as the world around is filled with political and cultural strife. 

Derry Girls is an incredibly popular show in Ireland, and it’s become even more popular while available on Netflix. For fans of Never Have I Ever, the representation is also great in this. The story is fictional, but the show often references real-life events that happened in Ireland in the 1990s, and is able to balance political messages very well with its absurd comedy. The cast is also so much fun. Definitely worth the time to watch if you’ve never seen it. It’s such a great comedy set in a school.

Ginny And Georgia (Netflix)

Next up on this list, we have Ginny & Georgia. This Netflix original tells the story of Georgia, a woman who had her daughter at fifteen and relocates them and her son to another state, where Ginny learns to adapt to the new world she is in – and gets into trouble along the way as she starts to question her mother’s past. 

Ginny & Georgia was quite popular when it released in early 2021, and is currently on track to have Season 2, so I have to recommend it as a teen dramedy. While the main character, to me, isn’t as likable as Devi is in Never Have I Ever, it still has some great comedic beats and has some good story moments that will make you want to keep watching until the next episode.

Outer Banks (Netflix)

I bet you knew Outer Banks was going to be on here, because it would be a sin not to include it. This show is also an action-adventure, and takes place on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, focusing on the rivalry between two different teen groups who are looking for territory in Season 1. But this story takes turns in places you never would have expected. 

This is much less of a dramedy than the other series listed, as it has some serious moments and reminds me more of the best teen dramas, but the reason why I put it on this list is that it has a great cast with awesome chemistry that really reminds me of Never Have I Ever. And when I say that the story takes turns that you would never expect, believe it. Outer Banks Season 3 is in the works, so I would definitely keep an eye out for that.

Ms. Marvel (Disney+)

For all my fans of Marvel, this one’s for you. As part of the MCU original shows on Disney+, Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan, a sixteen-year-old who is struggling to fit in at school, but her life is made even more complicated when she is gains powers after putting on magical bangles, but there’s more to her story than you would expect. 

This is arguably one of the best Disney+ MCU shows. It’s not as dramatic as some of the others, and is able to stand out in the giant hodge-podge that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point, adding a valid story and setting up characters for future sequels and film opportunities. Even if you know nothing about the MCU, Never Have I Ever, fans will find Kamala a fun character to watch. She’s cute, quirky, loves her family, and is badass in her own right, and I’ll gladly look forward to her next appearance in The Marvels. The diversity of including a Pakistani-American in the MCU is awesome, too.

Sex Education (Netflix)

Oh, you want diversity? You’re getting that with Sex Education. This bingeable Netflix series mainly follows Otis, a seemingly awkward but normal teenage boy who ends up giving out relationship and sex advice for students at his school when they find out that his mother is a sex therapist. And boy, do they want tips. 

While that’s really just the premise for the first season, there is just so much to love here. The diversity of this cast is just astounding, well done, and reminds me so much of Never Have I Ever, but the idea that there’s this teen dramedy that isn’t afraid to ask the tough question in regards to love, sex, and relationships is something I so desperately could have used when I was a teen, and I’m so happy this show exists for modern-day teenagers. Sex Education Season 4 is on the way, so now’s the time to binge!

Heartstopper (Netflix)

This show literally makes my heart stop. 

Jokes aside, Heartstopper is a cute teen dramedy that tells the story of Charlie, someone who falls in love with Nick, a student who sits next to him in his new class, and now he has to try and confront his feelings to be with him. 

This series is just so dang cute. If you like the romances of Never Have I Ever, you are going to love the romances here. It’s all the awkwardness and sweetness that is young love, and it’s so cute in every way possible. Again, the representation is also astounding, and is something that I truly, truly love. We adore LGBTQ+ romances and need more of them on television.

I Am Not Okay With This (Netflix)

Last but not least, we have the Netflix series, I Am Not Okay With This. In the show, we follow Sydney Novak, a teenager who is just trying to figure out her life when she begins to realize that she has telekinetic powers and has to learn how to deal with them - even though she is, and I quote, “not okay with this.”

Don’t let the fact that this show was only one season fool you. This series is amazing. Fans of Never Have I Ever will like that it tackles darker issues well and in a comedic manner that makes you laugh and think at the same time. The cast is just outstanding and the effects are surprisingly good for a TV series, but then again, this is a Netflix show. Still will never forgive them for cancelling this so soon.

There are so many amazing options for you to watch and I hope that you get the chance to view them all. If not, you’ll be like me, waiting patiently for Never Have I Ever Season 4 – and then crying when it’s all done.  

The sepia-soaked world of Outer Banks is back, as Netflix released a teaser trailer for the third season of the fan-favorite show during its Tudum event. Among lots of other Netflix show announcements, the OBX teaser is particularly exciting because of all the questions we were left with at the end of Season 2. Now, I (along with fans) can add more questions to that list based on the teaser for Season 3.

Elaborating on what we already know about the new season of Outer Banks,  the teaser shows the Pogues stranded on an island, living life in what they’ve dubbed “Poguelandia.” We also see the return of lots of other familiar characters, including Topper, Ward, Rafe and the return of Season 2 standout Elizabeth Mitchell as the toxic Limbry. All the characters seem to be fighting for their lives and for the treasure, and John B. poses a few important questions including: 

While these are important thematic questions, we viewers have a few inquires of our own. Let's talk it out:

 Will JJ And Kiara Finally Get Together? 

Scrolling through #OuterBanks on Twitter, it’s clear that fans are incredibly excited and curious about the future of JJ and Kiara. For example, this fan tweeted a set of photos from a single second of the trailer, showing the two hugging:  

Fans have been shipping the two since day one. While JJ, Pope and John  B. have all at times and some still do crush on Kiara, it seems like it might be JJ’s time to take things to the next level. In Season 2, Kiara and Pope were together, but she broke it off with him. While it’s a literal second of the trailer, it comes after two seasons of seeing their electric chemistry, strong friendship and waiting years for them to get together. Maybe now is the time? We’ll just have to wait and find out.

Obviously, The Pogues Are Stranded, But How Will They Get Off The Island?

While social media is not really posing this question yet, it’s my biggest question: How on Earth are these kids gonna get off that island? With each season the stakes get higher (and more ridiculous), and at the end of Season 2, we saw our band of heroes get stranded on a plot of land in the middle of the ocean. 

The trailer does show a large boat moving through the water, which could allude to their rescue, but I really don’t know how anyone is going to find them. I guess Ward and Rafe might be motivated enough to try to find Sarah, who is their daughter and sister, respectively. However, those two have proven just how terrible they are, and I really don’t think they would do something like that unless it was ill-intentioned. 

It seems clear to me they will eventually get off the island, because we see sequences in the trailer, like the Kiara and JJ moment for example, that happen in areas of civilization. So we know they get off the island, but I’m super curious to see how they accomplish this.

 When Will Netflix Release Outer Banks Season 3?  

Another one of the big questions after the release of the trailer, is when will we be getting Season 3? This seems to be the thing most people are commenting about. Included in that is @BanksNetflix, who posted:

Well, they’ve been working on the new season for a long time. My best guess, it’ll be out mid-2023. After celebrating their Season 3 renewal late in 2021, the cast of Outer Banks got back to work. While they have wrapped filming and we got this teaser, it still kind of stings that we'll have to wait an unspecified amount of time to actually binge the series.

Looking back, Season 1 of OBX was released in April 2020 and Season 2 in July 2021. In my opinion, it’s a quintessential summer show, so my guess is it will be out sometime in the early summer of next year. But while we wait for and theorize over Season 3, you can go back and watch the first two seasons of Outer Banks with a Netflix subscription. 

In a tragic turn of real-life events, a hit-and-run took the life of a crew member from one of Netflix’s most bingeworthy TV shows, Outer Banks, on July 5. His name was Alexander “AJ” Jennings, and he was 22 years old at the time of his death. Jennings had worked as a stand-in for Chase Stokes, the lead actor who plays the show’s John B character. Stokes has spoken out about the accident that claimed his friend’s life, saying he was “shattered” and “still trying to process” why it had to happen in the first place. More recently, Jennings’ family has shared that the cast has been very supportive in the wake of the tragedy, but there’s one way that everyone can help make an even bigger difference in their view.

Outer Banks, which follows the ever-complicated teenage conflicts of an off-shore North Carolinian friend group, was just renewed by Netflix for a third season last December. Among what we know so far about Season 3 is that the cast has been filming in Charleston, South Carolina for a few months, including AJ Jennings up until his untimely death. Speaking to TMZ, his mother LuJean Jennings noted that both the cast and crew generously offered to cover the costs for her son’s funeral arrangements.

It's certainly a sweet gesture on their part. However, AJ Jennings’ mom told the outlet that a better way for fans and others to honor the stunt double’s memory would be to donate to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Evidently, the late performer was originally born in Russia and was adopted by his family at just 18 months old. They say he found Russia’s invasion and ongoing conflict with Ukraine to be very upsetting, therefore any donations to the organization in his name goes to a cause near and dear to his heart. The funds would go toward providing supplies and necessities to Ukrainian refugees who are fleeing their country at present.

Other celebs have likewise been advocating for donations in recent months, as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to rock the region. Mila Kunis, who was born in the Ukraine herself, and her husband Ashton Kutcher have already helped fundraise more than $30 million through a self-made GoFundMe campaign. Meanwhile, former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel has shared that her non-profit has raised more than $100 million for Ukraine in the last update, per The Ellen Show.

It’s a good cause, and one that would bring some much-needed positivity after the shocking accident. AJ Jennings was reportedly hit by two cars while walking along the highway between Charleston’s James Island and Folly Beach. Both vehicles sped away after impact, leaving the young man at the scene. As of this writing, the crime is currently under investigation by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, per their news release, but no suspects have been located or arrested.

Though AJ Jennings is now gone, he is clearly not forgotten by his family, friends and the rest of the Outer Banks cast. A young actor associated with the hit series Outer Banks tragically lost his life in what's reported as a hit-and-run accident. 22-year-old Alexander "AJ" Jennings, who served as a stunt double for star Chase Stokes, lost his life this week, and his co-star took a chance to respond to the accident. 

Chase Stokes, who plays John B on the popular Netflix show, took a moment to memorialize Alexander Jennings on his Instagram Stories. Stokes spoke to Jennings in his message and talked about some of the recent conversations they had before his passing. He wrote:

It appears that Chase Stokes was a big fan of Alexander Jennings and excited about what was ahead for the young actor. Jennings will undoubtedly be missed amongst the Outer Banks cast.

TMZ reported that Alexander Jennings was walking on a main thoroughfare between James Island and Folly Beach on Tuesday morning in Charleston when he was struck by a vehicle. Sometime after, another vehicle struck him as well. Both vehicles fled the scene, and Jennings died of his injuries. The coroner's office listed his time of death at 3:13 a.m. The case is currently pending and there are no active charges at the time of writing.

It’s reported that Alexander Jennings had friends throughout the Outer Banks cast, and that Netflix offered grief counseling to those on the set of the Netflix series that need it. Obviously, this is a tragedy that people don’t see happening, so it’s understandable if his friends and coworkers need some help, and hopefully the resources provided will benefit them.   

Filming for Season 3 of Outer Banks was underway in Charleston, South Carolina, and was expected to last until August of 2022. It's unclear at this time whether or not the tragedy will impact production in any way. The series got an official renewal back in December of 2021. 

No details on a release date are out on the upcoming season just yet, and fans have little idea of what to expect. The series is considered by some to be one of the best teen dramas out there, so it’s certainly worth checking out. As Chase Stokes' double, there's no denying that Jennings played an important role in the series, and making it as successful as it is today.

Outer Banks is the latest Netflix series to have an incident similar to this occur during production. Two actors tied to the Netflix series The Chosen One lost their lives in a car accident just a couple of weeks ago. Production on that series briefly halted in order for SAG-AFTRA to hold an investigation into the matter.

Just in time for the holidays, Netflix has renewed anotherone of its popular original series! Recently, the streamer announced that drama Outer Banks is getting a third season, and the cast is celebrating in a sweet way!

Netflix made the Season 3 announcement on Twitter with the help of multiple cast members holding up victorious three fingers in celebration. Season 2 aired back in July on the streamer, so any type of announcement of a third season has been a long time coming, and fans and the cast are definitely excited. Check out the video below!

It’s always so sweet seeing the cast of shows get involved with announcing to fans that news seasons are on the way. It just proves how much the series means to them, and it definitely gets fans even more excited. When stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline broke up earlier this year, it was a little hard to tell how things might pan out if the show did get renewed, since that'll certainly be a little awkward for the two stars. Of course, it looks like they are just as excited as anyone else to come back, so here's hoping things play out smoothly behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, there is no word on when the third season will premiere, or how many episodes it will have. The first two seasons had 10 episodes each, so it’s likely Season 3 will feature that many as well. As for what will happen with John B and Sarah following Stokes and Cline’s breakup, it’s unknown considering the two characters are love interests. But they are professionals, and just reunited at the People's Choice Awards on December 7, so hopefully there are no hard feelings between the two of them. 

The killer mystery drama first premiered on Netflix in April 2020, and people immediately fell in love with the series for its breezy YA drama and mysteries. However, not everything about Outer Banks was positive. Towards the end of the year, it was revealed that a lawsuit was filed against Netflix and creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke. The lawsuit claimed that the creators ripped off its murder-mystery plotline from the 2016 novel Pennywise: The Hunt for Blackbeard’s Treasure! 

There currently isn’t much known about the lawsuit as of now, but with a third season in the works, it looks like Netflix has the upper hand here. The platform has dealt with lawsuits before and with how big the company is, fans shouldn’t have to worry about anything happening to the drama.

It’s interesting to note how long it took Netflix to renew Outer Banks, seeing as how the show has always been pretty popular on the streamer. Other fans, however, are still waiting on news on other Netflix Originals that have yet to hear any sorts of announcements, like Julie and the Phantoms. (HINT HINT) Hopefully this will kick off some sort of renewal or cancellation wave for the streamer, and that it’s all good news.

Riverdale (Netflix)

Riverdale is the titular name of a small little town in upstate New York on this show from The CW, where everything seems normal until one person begins to dig a little deeper into the area's dark history, and murders start to pile up, creating plenty of drama for its residents. 

Riverdale has certainly gone up and down in quality over its run, but I’ll always have a special place in my heart for its craziness. The characters are all so different, and the relationships are very entertaining to follow. It’s definitely a great murder mystery show and while it has its moments of utter strangeness - like those weird musical episodes - it’s still an entertaining teen drama.

All American (Netflix)

Next up, we have a classic sports show, All American. This teen drama follows a young high school football player who transfers to Beverly Hills High after being recruited from South L.A. We follow his wins and losses, both on the field and off. 

As someone who is a huge fan of sports movies, and loves watching football, I can confirm that this is an awesome show. I especially love that All American isn’t afraid to really dive deeply into hard to talk about topics that not a lot of older teen dramas really got into, such as racial injustice. The series is a lot of fun, and has great storylines filled with inspiration.

Elite (Netflix)

This international series on Netflix, Elite, is set in an elite secondary school, and follows the story of three working-class students who end up attending through a scholarship program, and clash with their wealthy classmates. 

I’ve always felt that Elite is like the Spanish version of Gossip Girl, except I think the characters are a lot more personable and fun to follow. We follow some truly crazy storylines, and I also especially love that the school they film in really does look like an amazingly private prep school. The romances in this are also so much fun to root for as well. There are six seasons and a seventh on the way, so time to binge.

Euphoria (HBO Max)

Next up, we have the HBO original series, Euphoria. While there’s a whole ensemble of characters, the main two that we follow are Rue and Jules, two young women, as they struggle through high school, and the social problems that surround them. 

Out of all the picks on this list, Euphoria is definitely the most mature. I’d say it even teeters between teen drama and adult drama with some of its content. However, I do feel that it’s an important show to watch, as it talks about some serious themes such as sexual assault, drug abuse and addiction, gender transitioning, and more. Zendaya is brilliant in her starring role, but the whole Euphoria cast is excellent, as well. Truly a great hit for HBO.

The 100 (Netflix)

Another CW show, The 100, follows a group of delinquents from a spaceship, who are sent back down to Earth to investigate if the planet is ready to be occupied by humans again, after a nuclear apocalypse. But, the kids find out that not only is the planet habitable - they are not alone. 

I absolutely adore dystopian shows like this, but mix that in with some teen drama and it’s a winner for me. From The 100 cast to the storylines to its surprisingly great costuming and set design, it’s such a well-done show, and the lore is truly interesting. I’m not the hugest fan of the last season, but the rest is great.

Degrassi: The Next Generation (Amazon Prime)

Taking place more than a decade after Degrassi Junior High, this show, Degrassi: The Next Generation, follows the obstacles of being a teenager, whether that means having to deal with relationship problems, sexuality, bullying, or even darker themes like sexual assault, gun control, and more. 

I’m going to be honest - Degrassi: The Next Generation was a little bit before my time of teen dramas, however, I recently binged it with a friend and I have to say, it holds up. The topics that are talked about are still relevant to today’s teens - if not even more so - and Degrassi: The Next Generation’s cast is full of talent and produced an entertaining show. I mean, the show even has Drake before he was super famous. It’s definitely worth a watch.

Gossip Girl (HBO Max)

A classic CW show, Gossip Girl follows Serena Van der Woodsen (played by Blake Lively), a teenager growing up on the Upper East Side of New York City. We follow her daily struggles with schooling, her best friend, relationship issues and more, through six seasons of craziness. 

As someone who recently just watched all of this for the first time, I can understand why it was so popular. The Gossip Girl cast is ridiculously skillful in their portrayals of these characters, and it’s no wonder why most of them went on to have very fulfilling careers. The storylines are intense and crazy, the characters easy to follow, and the fashion impeccable. The latest HBO Max remake isn’t that great, in my opinion, so better to just stick with the original.

Ginny & Georgia (Netflix)

With two seasons so far – and a third one on the way – this is probably one of Netflix’s most popular original teen shows. Ginny & Georgia follows Ginny, a young teenager who moves to a new town with her brother and mother, who had her as a teenager. Ginny lovers her mother, but as she starts to settle into this new town, she begins to discover secrets about her mom’s past that she never would have guessed – and it changes her life forever. 

Ginny & Georgia is one of those shows where you either enjoy the heck out of it or you can’t make it past the first season because the way the high schoolers talk can be very dated (as is the case with many teen shows). But what I will say is that the story is honestly really good and has a lot of suspense around Georgia’s character, and Season 2 especially dives into much heavier themes.

One Tree Hill (Hulu)

Another classic teen drama, One Tree Hill, is all about the Scott brothers, Lucas and Nathan, half siblings who are competing against each other for spots on the basketball team, romances, and a lot more, in the town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. 

I feel like everyone has heard of One Tree Hill. It’s such a great combination of genres within a teen drama, like having a sports storyline, including so much romance it’s almost impossible to keep up with it, and much, much more. Plus, the One Tree Hill cast is full of stars, such as Chad Michael Murray, Hilarie Burton, and James Lafferty. The show had nine seasons, so you know it was, at the very least, quite successful.

Pretty Little Liars (HBO Max)

Pretty Little Liars follows a group of five best friends, but their lives start to fall apart when their leader, Alison, suddenly vanishes. A year later, the friends reunite when they are threatened by a person named ‘A,’ who is saying they will expose all their darkest secrets. 

I feel like Pretty Little Liars is famous for so many reasons, whether it be for its drama, its romances, its dark twists and turns, or something else. The show became incredibly popular, and Pretty Little Liars cast went on to succeed in many different projects after the series finale.

Veronica Mars (Hulu)

In this popular CW series, Veronica Mars follows the titular character as she moves from high school to college, while also working as a private investigator, thanks to her father, who is a detective. In each new episode, we get to follow Veronica as she takes on a new case, while constantly trying to figure out the bigger mystery at hand. 

Starring Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars is the perfect example of a teen drama that can be entertaining for teens and adults. The mysteries that are involved are so much fun, but what really makes it such a great series is how, at the end of each season, it’s all tied to the bigger mystery of the season. And, how can you not love Kristen Bell as Veronica? She has that spunky personality that’s just impossible not to like.

Teen Wolf (Hulu)

Loosely based on the '80s film of the same name, Teen Wolf follows Scott, a seemingly normal high schooler whose world is turned upside down when he is bitten by a werewolf the night before his sophomore year, completely changing the course of his life. 

This is an excellent werewolf show, if not for the costume design, then for the Teen Wolf cast. Everyone works so well together and helped create a truly entertaining fantasy series that’s full of lore, enjoyable characters, and really cool monsters. My personal favorite character from the series is Stiles. Definitely one of Dylan O’Brien's best movies and TV shows.

Outer Banks (Netflix)

Lastly, we have the Netflix original series, Outer Banks. This series is set in the town of Outer Banks, North Carolina, where there’s a stark difference between the wealthy and the working-class, called Kooks and Pogues. We follow a group of Pogues, who are on a mission to find out what happened to their ringleader’s father, who mysteriously disappeared. 

I personally think that this show sometimes dives a little too deep into teen drama tropes by making these romances as intense as they are. However, Outer Banks provides some awesomely fun adventure with its inclusion of mystery, mixed in with a warm feeling provided by the setting’s atmosphere. I love to watch this show in the winter when it’s cold, as it reminds me of summer.

While there are plenty of awesome teen dramas that we can all look forward to popping up on the 2023 TV schedule, sometimes it’s better to just sit back, relax, and binge what's come before. Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m going to re-watch Gossip Girl for the umpteenth time.

July is a month in the United States that many associate with freedom thanks to Independence Day on the 4th. We have the freedom to celebrate the height of summer fun, set off fireworks, or ignore all of that and sit inside on days when it's unbearably hot and watch Netflix. I know for sure I'll be going for Netflix quite a bit when the sun is shining its brightest, so it's a good thing this month is stacked with originals worth whiling the day away on.

Whether you're a fan of scripted dramas, reality television, or the best damn sketch show of the past decade, Netflix is the place to be in July. Below are 11 of the most exciting originals that are on the horizon and shows that one can be sure their friends, families, and coworkers will be talking about. Let's dive in!

Big Timber - 7/2

Let me go on the record and say that I rarely have, if ever, thought for a prolonged amount of time about the hardship, struggles, and lives of Canadian loggers. Fans of Deadliest Catch may definitely appreciate Big Timber, especially if the promise of harsh elements and finicky equipment play into the drama of the series. Honestly, I'm more just curious about what happens in the day-to-day of this profession and the prospect of seeing some massive trees go to the ground on camera.

We The People - 7/4

Netflix is doing the Fourth of July right with an original series that's executive produced by former President Barack Obama. We The People is a musical series that will break down the basic rights of citizenship in America in a way that's both fun and educational for kids. The musical series features performances from artists like Maroon 5, Janelle Monáe, H.E.R., Adam Lambert, and more. This could be a series that's good to put on for the kids as they wind down after fireworks or even before the fun kicks off.

I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson (Season 2) - 7/6

I don't think there's a show I've laughed harder at or quoted more in recent years than I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Season 1 was a true gift, and now Robinson and Zach Kanin are back for more sketches that I'm sure will be quoted on Twitter continuously. I'm honestly not sure what audiences should expect of this season, though I can say that after some of the unexpected laughs from Season 1, I'm recommending this show to everyone.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness - 7/8

Audiences are finally getting a Resident Evil series that's true to the actual lore of the games, and from what's been shown so far, I'm impressed. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness follows Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy years after the horrors of Raccoon City. This time, the two are back together after a viral scourge attacks the White House, which is just such a great setting for a Resident Evil series. This CGI series looks like a must-watch for fans of the franchise, so be sure to mark your calendar if that applies to you.

Atypical (Season 4) - 7/9

Atypical will end this year with Season 4, and honestly, that's an accomplishment given how quickly Netflix can pull the plug on original shows. The final chapter of the series will show Sam off at college, and apparently, things aren't going as smoothly as he hoped. Longtime fans will no doubt want to tune in for the final chapter, and newcomers may feel compelled to binge the Peabody-nominated series before its fourth season premiere in July.

Virgin River (Season 3) - 7/9

It feels like Virgin River only just started, but it's actually been two years since the premiere of this Netflix hit. Mel and the residents of Virgin River are back, and so is all the drama that encompasses this town. Custody battles, breakups, a fire, and even a death are all on the table for this season. It sounds like a good time, but only because all of it is fiction and not something I'm personally dealing with.

Johnny Test - 7/16

Johnny Test is back, and for those who had no idea a reboot was on the way, you're not alone. Johnny, his dog, and his science-loving sisters are all back, and at first glance, it seems like the only thing that has changed is the animation. Overall, this seems like the same style and feel as the original series and should be a fun show for kids to tune into for a little fun.

Sexy Beasts - 7/21

If conventional dating shows had a baby with The Masked Singer, the end result would be Sexy Beasts. Singles looking to find love undergo heavy makeup jobs and prosthetics, all in the name of finding someone they connect with on a truly blind date. I have to admit I'm thrilled by the premise, though I'm not sure that this dating show would be too much above the average without the makeup. We'll have to wait and see!

Masters of the Universe: Revelation - 7/23

From arguably Hollywood's most famous geek Kevin Smith, Eternia is at war yet again. Skeletor and He-Man will butt heads once more in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, in what may be the final confrontation between the two. Masters of the Universe is one of those '80s franchises that has gotten a little bit of love throughout the years, but perhaps never quite the level it deserved considering its continued popularity. Hopefully, Smith can renew interest in it with this series, which already looks like it's worth the hype.

Tattoo Redo - 7/28

Tattoo regret is real, but thankfully, there are options for those unhappy with their art. This series features folks unhappy with tattoos and artists working in order to give them a new tattoo that they can really be proud of. I'm definitely someone who likes to see tattoos being created for someone, and the idea of it covering up a pre-existing tattoo that's less than perfect. This definitely sounds like a good show to put on casually in the background, but maybe not if you're giving someone a tattoo.

Outer Banks (Season 2) - 7/30

Outer Banks is back for Season 2, and apparently, the crew is headed for a challenge like they've never faced before. That sounds par for the course when it comes to a teen romance series, so I can only imagine what drama is on the horizon. Fans should be excited for this one, even if they have to wait until the end of July to binge it.
