NCIS' creative team had a heads up Pauley Perrette would be leave her role as Abby on the crime procedural, which ultimately led to the creation of her successor, Kasie Hines. Diona Reasonover got a front-row seat to hearing how her character came to be, thanks to a conversation with the man who created Kasie, Scott Williams.

As we wait for NCIS' return to the 2026 TV schedule to resolve that wild cliffhanger, writer Scott Williams appeared on the Partners & Probies podcast to talk about a litany of topics. This included the beginnings of forensic scientist Kasie Hines, which Williams explained was a response to the series losing Abby:

Abby's final appearance was in "Two Steps Back," Episode 22 of Season 15. After recovering from a shooting, Abby decided to leave the agency and honor a past colleague, with her final scene being a note to Gibbs and her using sign language to say "I love you," from her car across the street. The moment lives on as a bit ironic, given Pauley Perrette's exit from NCIS was allegedly tied to tensions with Gibbs actor Mark Harmon.

Perrette was beloved on NCIS, to the point that fans still have hope she'll return any time she appears alongside former co-stars. I think people take for granted just how hard it was to replace her, but that's a credit to how well Diona Reasonover has done as Kasie.

Of course, the writing helped as well. Scott Williams talked about how they constructed the character, making a point to put some connective tissue between Kasie Hines and Abby Sciuto:

Kasie Hines made her entrance in Episode 17 of Season 15, "One Man's Trash," as a graduate assistant of Donald "Ducky" Mallard. She had two more appearances that season before becoming a full-time member of the NCIS team in Season 16 to present. She's appeared in 156 episodes total, which is impressive, but she still has some seasons to go before matching Pauley Perrette's 354.

Scott Williams also had an interesting anecdote about Kasie's name originally being "K.C." and why it was changed during the character's creation. As Williams explained, spelling her name that way would create a headache for writers thanks to screenwriting software Final Draft. As he explained, the software automatically creates a double space and capitalization after someone types a period. It would require lots of fixes to scripts, so Williams suggested going with Kasie, which was how a friend spelled her name.

The rest, as they say, is history, and now Kasie Hines is as iconic as anyone else on the cast of NCIS. Diona Reasonover remains a big part of the cast, and even has hopes of joining other spinoffs in the future. As someone who has long said Kasie needs to be spending more time out of the crime lab, I'm 100% on board with that idea.

Will any character ever be enough to fill the Pauley Perrette-shaped hole in the heart of NCIS fans? It's hard to say, but thankfully there are plenty of episodes available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription that show Abby doing what she does best. Who knows, maybe we'll one day see Abby return, and she'll team up with Kasie.

As mentioned, NCIS returns to CBS with new episodes this fall. I'm ready for more of Kasie and curious to see what other adventures she gets into when the rest of the team is out in the field.

To this day, Pauley Perrette remains one of NCIS' most notable stars who will almost assuredly never film for the crime procedural again. Fans loved Perrette's portrayal of Abby Sciuto, but the actress left the series due to issues with co-star Mark Harmon. And, even after Harmon's own exit, the chances of Perrette ever returning to the series feel slim. That said, she was recently spotted at a concert with co-star Brian Dietzen, so it seems she's still tight with at least one cast member on the show.

Dietzen posted a picture with Perrette on Instagram, noting that he hung out with his former on-screen crime lab buddy at a recent show in Los Angeles. Check out the sweet photo to see Perrette (as you almost assuredly won't see her on the 2026 TV schedule):

This photo may spark some nostalgia for those who've long enjoyed NCIS. It honestly warms my heart to that Perrette is still tight with someone from CBS' long-running military drama, even if she may never appear on the series again. To start, she's officially retired from acting and, based on the seldom updates she's provided in recent years, she seems quite happy with the decision to step away from the profession.

Given that, I don't imagine we'll see her in any future episodes of NCIS. Of course, fans can still enjoy plenty of old episodes featuring Abby, provided they have a Paramount+ subscription. Still, in an entertainment landscape dominated by nostalgia, there may be a possibility that Perrette reappears in some capacity.

Personally, though, I think it's fine that Perrette hasn't returned, especially since Abby Sciuto got a solid send-off from the series near the end of Season 15. Following the death of Clayton Reeves, Abby left for London to start a charity in his honor, which felt like a noble conclusion for her story. Plus, fans have seen far worse exits for long-running characters in NCIS, including the recent death of Rocky Carroll's Director Vance.

It's also worth mentioning that story-wise, Season 24 might be a bad time for Perrette to potentially return anyway, given Mark Harmon's Gibbs was just linked to a big moment of vigilante justice. Season 23 heavily implied that Alden Parker worked with Gibbs to kill Director Vance's killer, after he cut a deal with the agency to be granted immunity.

Gary Cole hinted that Parker's dark side may be explored in NCIS Season 24, which premieres this fall. If that's on the table, I do wonder if Harmon might return as Gibbs should the team look into Parker's role in the murder, considering his sister already suspects he rigged a vehicle to break down, allowing Gibbs to take the shot.

So, all in all, Pauley Perrette's Abby theoretically wouldn't fit into such a narrative smoothly. That aside, though, I'm just glad to see Perrette hanging out with one of her former co-stars and continue to wish her the best in this phase of her life.

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS episode “The Sound and the Fury” are ahead!

NCIS finished its Carla Marino storyline last week, so Season 23 has reentered its traditional procedural groove. However, that doesn’t mean the episode that just finished airing on the 2025 TV schedule was just your run-of-the-mill case of the week. “The Sound and the Fury” brought back NCIS Special Agent Dale Sayer for a spooky night case that ended with me wondering if there’s something deeper brewing between Nick Torres and Jessica Knight. On top of that, there was a fun throwback to the still-beloved Abby Sciuto that’s worth talking about.

There’s No Romantic Interest Between Torres And Knight… Right?

“The Sound and the Fury” saw Torres, Knight, Alden Parker and Timothy McGee’s latest murder investigation overlapping with Dale Sawyer’s for the night shift. Both cases involved a disguised woman who was seducing young naval men into committing infidelity, then blackmailed them by threatening to tell their wives if they didn’t pay up. Oh, and the murder victim, Petty Officer 3rd Class Steven Keogh, had his brain liquified through his ears and nose.

After Director Vance selected Sawyer to take lead on this team-up since his bribery case was underway first, he, Torres and Knight identified the woman in question, Olga Bergamot, and tracked her down. They arrived just as one of her partners-in-crime just as he was dying in the same manner as Keogh. Shortly thereafter, Olga started suffering similar effects and fell into a coma, and Nick started feeling strangely too, to the point that while Sawyer and Knight were on a stakeout, he attacked them in a state of temporary, rage-fueled insanity.

Long story short, the deaths, coma and Nick’s erratic behavior all came from the use of a long-range acoustic device (LRAD) at the hands of the proprietor of a bar that Keogh visited. This man blackmailed Keogh into stealing the LRAD and was going to sell it some sketchy party in Russia. As per usual, the bad guy was captured and his plan was foiled, with Torres getting back to his old self under Jimmy Palmer’s dutiful care.

As all this was going down, Torres and Knight shared how much they care about each other through their separate conversations with Swayer and Jimmy. Torres admitted he was feeling a little jealous seeing Knight work with Swayer, though only in the sense that she’s his close partner, and Knight mentioned that she cares about Torres “more than he knows.” At the end of “The Sound and he Fury,” these two reaffirmed how they won’t let anything get in the way of their connection.

And yet, I can’t help but think there’s more to this that will be explored. Wilmer Valderrama said earlier this month that a potential romance between Torres and Knight is “a little complicated, a little messy,” but he didn’t outright rule it out. While these two obviously don’t have romantic feelings right now, now I feel like it’s at least a possibility. After all, it didn’t work between Torres and Emily Wickersham’s Ellie Bishop, and as much as I want her to return, he also has something special with Knight.

One Of Abby Sciuto’s Essentials Made A Cameo

Anyone who’s been watching NCIS for a long time or gone back to stream the show from the start with their Paramount+ subscription will remember Pauley Perrette’s Abby Sciuto as one of the OGs, debuting in the backdoor pilot that aired on JAG. It’s been seven years since Perrette exited the series, but NCIS has found ways to reference Abby in the years since, like when she sent a distinctive black wreath to honor the then-recently-passed Ducky Mallard.

During “The Sound and the Fury,” Dale Swayer brought out some bottles of Caf-Pow, saying he found a case of them in the forensics lab a few years back. Caf-Pow was, of course, Abby’s beverage of choice, frequently guzzling the energy drink as she was working. Nick Torres even said to Jessica Knight later on that those bottles were Abby’s, although it’s unclear if Knight ever crossed paths with Abby.

Given that Pauley Perette retired from acting, and taking into account the less-than-ideal circumstances that led to her leaving NCIS, the chances of seeing Abby Sciuto return to the show are slim to none. So it’s nice when NCIS find ways to nod at her and remind us an era long since passed on this popular procedural. Diona Reasonover’s Kasie Hines was introduced in NCIS Season 15 as the graduate student whom the late Donald “Ducky” Mallard hired his assistant while he was writing his book. Then when Pauley Perrette left the CBS series, Reasonover was upgraded from recurring player to series regular, with Kasie taking over Abby Sciuto’s position as Forensic Specialist. She’s remained in that position ever since, and ahead of NCIS Season 22 concluding its run on the 2025 TV schedule, Reasonover gave a thoughtful answer to CinemaBlend about feeling “ownership” over playing Kasie in those early years.

In addition the actress discussing her experience working on the newest NCIS episode, “Ladies Night,” which can be streamed now with a Paramount+ subscription, she also had this to say when I asked her during the interview when she started to feel like playing Kasie and operating in the space where Perrette once resided was “her own”:

Kasie Hines is a different kind of quirky than Abby Sciuto, so if there were any NCIS viewers who were hoping that the former’s personality would closely resemble the latter’s, they were mistaken. Like Diona Reasonover said, where Abby would have treated Ducky with a softer hand, Kasie pushed Ducky to focus on finishing his book. She wasn’t overly forceful about it, but it was clear she meant business. Reasonover continued:

Kasie may not blast music in her lab or drink large quantities of Caf-Pow, but with nearly a decade having passed since she was introduced in NCIS, she remains a integral part of the team solving crimes for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service week after week. And it’s not just through her professional work. Earlier in Season 22, we got to meet her game night friends (and that episode amusingly reminded me a The Big Bang Theory joke), and in “Ladies Night,” Kasie had a flirtatious moment with a server at a wine bar.

So as NCIS Season 22 winds down and Season 23 is set for CBS’ 2025-2026 programming block, fans will get to keep seeing Kasie Hines doing what she does best: scientifically analyzing evidence, having her friends’ back and being assertive when necessary. The procedural airs Mondays at 9 pm ET.

Throughout its 22-season run, NCIS has seen many actors come and go, with one of the most famous arguably being Pauley Perrette. What Did Pauley Perrette Say About Working On NCIS?

Pauley Perrette was one of the original NCIS actors that first appeared in the two-part JAG backdoor pilot. She quickly became a fan-favorite on the long-running procedural, which is arguably better than the show it spun off from. While Perrette found success on the show, that doesn’t mean it was all easy. Throughout most of her time on the series, she had to remain deeply committed to the series. And, as she once told Paul Semel, that had ramifications on other aspects of her career:

Doing a show like NCIS that can be mentally and physically taxing, as it can require long hours and a lot of shooting days. And, even though there are usually about two months or so of free-time in between seasons, the Ring alum said isn’t enough time to do a “big movie.” She also missed an opportunity to pop up on one of TV's biggest sitcoms.

What Happened With The Star's Big Bang Theory Cameo?

The Big Bang Theory welcomed a plethora of guest actors during its 12-season run. Pauley Perrette explained that when it came to her showing up on CBS' multi-camera comedy series, there were plenty of pieces in place to make it happen. However, she recalled it falling through:

It’s disappointing that the actress couldn’t even carve out time to do The Big Bang Theory, but lends credence to just how busy she was with NCIS. I can't help but wonder what other kind of excellent work she might've been able to land had she not been so consumed with the hit crime drama. What I'd also like to know is who she would've played on TBBT.

Pauley Perrette retired from acting after her sitcom Broke was canceled after one season in 2020. She previously opened up about quitting acting, saying she wasn’t ungrateful that she was also a “different person now.” Considering the grueling schedule on the military drama, I can’t say I blame Perrette for wanting to step away, especially since she’s been focusing on herself.

That being said, it’s not uncommon for a TV actor to not take on many side gigs if they’re on a show long-term, whether it’s because of scheduling or because they simply want to take a break when they aren’t working. It just so happened to be the former for Pauley Perrette, and I'll continue to think about what could've been had her schedule been more open. At the very least, fans can watch Perrette's excellent work in the first 15 seasons of NCIS using a Paramount+ subscription.

NCIS is currently airing its 22nd season on the 2025 TV schedule, meaning it premiered all the way back in 2003. Needless to say that very few TV shows pull off the incredible feat of running over multiple decades, let alone also launch a small screen franchise. And with such a long run comes countless amounts of opinions on NCIS, some of which many will agree on, while others have grown tiresome for certain fans to hear/read. We’re here to talk about the latter, and of course Abby Sciuto came up when the topic was discussed.

Over on Reddit, there’s a discussion about the weirdest NCIS fan theories/opinions fans have ever heard. One person highlighted what they consider to be one of the biggest ones among the fanbase, yet it’s not one they agree with, about Abby, whom Pauley Perrette played in the show’s first 15 seasons:

As the enthusiastic goth forensic scientist who enjoys jamming to music in her lab while she works, drinking copious amounts of the drink Caf-Pow, and hugging a stuffed hippo named Bert who makes farting noises, Abby could certainly be said to have childish traits, although I prefer describing her as eccentric. Regardless, this fan doesn’t believe that Abby became overwhelmingly childish in the final seasons ahead of Pauley Perrette’s NCIS exit. Regardless of where you stand on this particular opinion, don’t expect the character to return to the CBS series, as Perrette has retired from acting.

Moving on, here’s another opinion that was shared in the Reddit thread concerning two other characters who departed NCIS years ago:

Following the death of Sasha Alexander’s Caitlin Todd at the end of Season 2, Cote de Pablo was brought in to play Ziva David, and it didn’t take long for the character to become a fan-favorite. The actress stuck around as a series regular until the beginning of Season 11, after which time Emily Wickersham was cast as Ellie Bishop, Ziva’s replacement on the team. Wickersham herself would leave NCIS in the Season 18 finale, but there was enough talk during her tenure about wanting Ziva to return. The two spent some time together during de Pablo’s recurring stint in Season 17.

To keep the cast exit train going, here’d what someone had to say about when Michael Weatherly departed NCIS:

Like Pauley Perrette, Mark Harmon and David McCallum, Weatherly debuted as Tony DiNozzo in the JAG episodes “Ice Queen” and “Meltdown,” and he was a series regular on NCIS for its first 13 seasons. While Weatherly leaving did feel like the end of an era, just like Pauley Perrette and Cote de Pablo’s exits, fans did get to briefly hang out with Tony again when he cameoed at the end of the David McCallum tribute episode last year. Additionally, Weatherly and de Pablo will reunite for the streaming-exclusive spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which is expected to premiere later this year.

Finally, one fan left a different kind of NCIS opinion that annoys them, and frankly, I have to agree with them on this:

Excuse me? Yes, Tony DiNozzo cracked a lot of jokes during his time on NCIS, but he was far from the only one who did it. And yes, Nick Torres is arguably the more serious character of the two, but that doesn’t mean he should stop telling his own jokes. NCIS is one of those procedurals that mixes in a healthy amount of humor with its case-solving, and that comes from multiple characters. Torres has his brand of funny and Tony has his; both can coexist.

Like Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Michael Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo and the late David McCallum’s Donald Mallard, Pauley Perrette’s Abby Sciuto was introduced to the world in 2003 in the JAG two-parter “Ice Queen” and “Meltdown” before NCIS premiered a few months later. Perrette played the goth forensic scientist for 15 seasons on the popular CBS series, and there’s a complex story behind why she left NCIS. However, Abby might have been depicted a lot differently during that decade and a half had Perrette not spoken up after telling a dirty joke onscreen.

In an interview with Hello!, where she also revealed that she’ll never return to acting, Pauley Perrette recalled how she prompted major change in Abby Scout’s characterization following one of NCIS’ earliest episodes, despite the fact that she “had no right to do so.” As the actress explained:

If Pauley Perrette had been someone who didn’t mind telling dirty jokes or double entendres while playing a character, then maybe this aspect of Abby Sciuto’s personality would have remained over the course of 15 seasons. But because Perrette shared her concern, despite the fact that NCIS was still in its infancy and she’d only just started playing Abby, she succeeded in having this element removed, thus giving Abby more of that good girl image she brightly presented week after week. It certainly wasn’t the first time a TV character has been tweaked early on in a show’s run, and it definitely hasn’t been the last.

When Abby was last seen in the NCIS Season 15 finale, she had resigned from the title law enforcement agency so that she could accompany the body of her late colleague Clayton Reeves, who died protecting her from being killed by a hitman, back to England and to start a charity for the homeless on behalf of him and his mother. Because Perrette doesn’t want to act again, clearly we shouldn’t expect to see Abby reunite onscreen with colleagues/friends like Timothy McGee and Jimmy Palmer. However, we did get an Abby nod in the Ducky tribute episode earlier this year, so maybe there will come another opportunity for acknowledge her. Hopefully that would involve learning where she is and what she’s up to these days.

Throughout NCIS’ 22-season run, the series has seen plenty of cast members exit. While some left for good, others have made surprise returns. Most recently, Michael Weatherly made a cameo in the tribute episode for David McCallum and Ducky earlier this year. Meanwhile, Pauley Perrette has remained adamant about not coming back as Abby Sciuto, and she’s been quite busy since she retired from acting.

As one of the OG NCIS stars going all the way to the JAG backdoor pilot, Perrette remained on the CBS procedural through Season 15. The story of why the Abby actress left NCIS includes reported bad blood with Mark Harmon, however, she hasn’t expressed any interest in returning since the Gibbs actor departed.

She did land the CBS sitcom Broke not long after leaving the procedural. However, she ultimately decided to retire from acting when the series was canceled after only one season. While some might hope she could return to acting and the NCIS franchise, that’s all in her rearview mirror, as she told HELLO! Magazine:

It sounds like Perrette has been working on herself a lot since leaving the acting industry, and she’s doing really well.

However, she has been through a lot personally over the last few years as she suffered a stroke in 2021 and lost her father to COVID. So it makes sense that she's really taking time to focus on herself and her well-being. Even though she’s clearly grateful for the career she had and the benefits that came with it, she seems to be in a better place these days, which is really all that matters.

Pauley Perrette hasn’t completely stepped away from the industry though. While she has no plans to return to acting, she is executive producing documentaries now, explaining that she has a “deep need to find authenticity in everything.” As she said, even though acting was a “great escape,” with documentaries, she can focus on fact rather than fiction and can find that "authenticity" she's always looking for. It’s definitely admirable, and as much as I would love to see Abby Sciuto come back following the little reference to her in the Ducky tribute episode, Perrette seems to be loving life as it is.

The former actress does still keep the series and some of her co-stars close though. She and Michael Weatherly occasionally show support for one another, whether it’s for a new project or a birthday, which is always sweet to see. She also paid tribute to David McCallum after he passed away last year.

Now, while Perrette is no longer working on NCIS, those with a Paramount+ subscription can always watch the first 15 seasons just for Abby. It is also always possible that Perrette could change her mind in the future, and as of now, there’s no indication that NCIS is coming to an end any time soon. However, she does seem content with where her life is now, and ultimately, we're happy she's happy!

The entertainment industry has been mourning the loss of journalist Sam Rubin. The longtime entertainment reporter for KTLA Morning News died on May 10 at age 64 and many celebrities in Hollywood have been paying tribute to him. NCIS vet Pauley Perrette is among those sharing memories of the beloved journalist and even shared a clip from one of their most recent interviews.

Perrette took to Instagram after news broke about Rubin’s passing to pay tribute to him, noting that he “was a friend and an excellent human.” She also shared that while doing interviews was “not a pleasant part” of her job, she was always excited to be interviewed by him and see him on the red carpet “because he was real, he was fun and he was a friend.” Alongside her heartfelt message, the former actress also shared a short clip of the two of them on KTLA, where they kissed each other on the cheek:

The clip in question seems to be from an interview Perrette did in December, as she shared another clip where she’s wearing the same outfit. It was in promotion of her new documentary Red Ribbons of Love and just from the look of it, she was happy to be with Rubin and the rest of the KTLA team.

She also spoke with Rubin for certain milestones in her career, such as her final episode of NCIS. Unfortunately, Perrette was just on the phone, but she certainly sounded happy to be on the line with Rubin and the team. All in all, I'm glad that this clip was available for viewing, even years after the interview took place:

When one door on CBS closes, another one opens, as did for Perrette. She also spoke to Rubin during the initial COVID lockdown about her short-lived sitcom Broke, which was unfortunately canceled after one season. Since she retired from acting following the sitcom, it had likely been a long time since the two of them had spoken to each other or, at the very least, done an interview together. It's possible that their interview last December might have been their first conversation in a long time, making it all the more bittersweet that Perrette used a clip from it for her tribute.

Many other celebrities have been paying tribute to Sam Rubin, including Ben Stiller, Octavia Spencer, Jerry O’Connell, Ryan Reynolds, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Hanks, Kiefer Sutherland, and many, many more. Based on these reactions from some of the biggest names in Hollywood, he had a strong impact on the industry and a legacy that will continue.

Earlier this week, NCIS bid farewell to Donald “Ducky” Mallard on the 2024 TV schedule following the death of his actor, David McCallum, at the age of 90 last September. The show’s Ducky tribute episode followed the team coming to terms with the character’s passing as they looked into a case he’s agreed to take on. Along with a fan-favorite stopping by at the end of the episode to pay his respects, there were various references to other departed NCIS characters who were close with Ducky, and that included a nod to Pauley Perrette’s Abby Sciuto. Did you catch it?

At a little past the halfway mark of “The Stories We Leave Behind,” as we peek in on Brian Dietzen’s Jimmy Palmer nervously cleaning the lab of Diona Reasonover’s Kasie Hines as they await an update on how this episode’s case is going, we see a black wreath sent to honor Ducky. Check it out:

Although Abby isn’t named, it’s obvious she’s the one who sent it thanks to its gothic vibe, and Kasie even tells Jimmy, “Bet you can guess who it’s from.” That’s the extent of which Abby is acknowledged though, as the wreath is moved to another part of the lab and Jimmy proceeds to recall the good times he had with Ducky to Kasie. This also marks one of the few times that Abby has been alluded to following her exit back in 2018.

Like David McCallum, Pauley Perrette was one of the original NCIS cast members alongside Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly and Sasha Alexander, with all but Alexander having first appeared in the JAG two-parter “Ice Queen” and “Meltdown.” Abby Sciuto was the team’s first forensic scientist and was well-known for her gothic fashion choices, obsession with the energy drink Caf-Pow and consistently blaring loud music as she worked. While Abby was the closest with Harmon’s Gibbs, as the two of them had a father/daughter-like relationship, she and Ducky were also pretty tight during their time together.

Perrette left NCIS towards the end of Season 15, with Abby deciding in the episode “Two Steps Back” to honor a charity to help the homeless in honor of her late colleague Clayton Reeves, played by Duane Henry. However, it was later reported that behind-the-scenes conflicts with Harmon was the catalyst for her departure. Although the actress has never outright confirmed the stories about what happened on the set between them, she did say in 2019 that she’d never return to NCIS because she was “terrified” of Harmon. He went on to leave NCIS early on in Season 19, although he’s not set to executive produce and narrate NCIS: Origins, a prequel about Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

So while it doesn’t look like we’ll ever see Abby Sciuto on NCIS again, it was nice to get this brief nod in “The Stories We Leave Behind,” as well as see some old footage of her as part of the episode’s incorporation of clips featuring Ducky. In just a week, the long-running NCIS franchise is expanding into international waters. NCIS: Sydney is heading to CBS this month, which is a prospect that's sure to excite fans. Headed by Olivia Swann and Todd Lasance, the series will see a team of U.S. NCIS Agents forming a task force with the Australian Federal Police as they investigate naval crimes in the titular city. Of course, a fresh crop of characters had to be developed for the procedural, and its showrunner just spoke about crafting a forensic scientist that doesn't feel too similar to Pauley Perrette’s Abby Sciuto.

This is the fifth series in the franchise, and each of the programs feature unique rosters of characters. On that note, it's easy to imagine that the writers and producers could run into challenges when it comes to keeping said individuals distinct. In an interview with TV Insider, Sydney showrunner Morgan O’Neill what fans can expect from the show's major players. Amid that, he also weighed in on how he and his team sought not to replicate the flagship show's iconic Abby through one of the new faces:

Sciuto definitely brought a lot of life to the OG show, and all of that was because of Pauley Perrette's spirited performance. While Perrette ultimately left the show during Season 15 due to some on-set issues and is still missed. It’s hard to replicate that same kind of magic she had and arguably even more difficult to avoid copying it. When it comes to the cast of NCIS: Sydney, the character who fits Abby's mold is Bluebird Gleeson. Luckily, Morgan O’Neill and co. were able to find ways to make her unique:

I'm exciting to see how the writers and producers dig into these characters and make us feel for them. It seems like the team has really worked hard at making the series different from its predecessors. That's admirable, as working on a new series for a franchise that has been around for 20 years is no easy feat. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, though, and look forward to seeing what Mavournee Hazel brings to Bluebird.

Like its predecessors, Sydney will still reference the other shows from time to time. While it may be hard to do crossovers with the series filming and taking place in a different continent, I'm hopeful they'll happen. Such events would not only be fun for funs but would also help Morgan O'Neill and his team truly show just how his characters contrast from the likes of Abby Sciuto, Leroy Jethro Gibbs and more.

Yesterday we learned of the passing of the great David McCallum at the age of 90. While he had more than 120 acting credits to his name, and appeared in such iconic films as The Great Escape and TV series like The Man From U.N.C.L.E., for a generation he will be known first and foremost as “Ducky.” For 20 years he played Dr. Donald Mallard on NCIS and his co-stars are paying their respects. 

Michael Weatherly, who worked alongside McCallum from the show’s pilot episode in 2003 until Weatherly NCIS left in 2019, took to Twitter to sing the praises of McCallum as a man and actor. He actually got his co-star's autograph at some point, something that Weatherly apparently savers for only his most important celebrity interactions.

McCallum appeared in 457 episodes of the show and was the final original cast member following Mark Harmon’s departure from the show. Harmon himself spoke top TVLine about the actor’s passing, saying he was in “awe” when he first met McCallum, and offering condolences to the actor’s family. Harmon said…

Former NCIS cast member Pauley Perrette also posted a remembrance on Instagram, including a whole series of images of herself and McCallum together, through the years they appeared on NCIS. She posted, in part…

Brian Dietzen, who played Jimmy Palmer, Ducky’s assistant medical examiner, before the character took on the full-time role, posted his own remembrance of the actor that he worked most closely with. Not only was Ducky a mentor to Jimmy, but McCallum played the same role for Dietzen. It seems it was their relationship that led to Dietzen becoming a series regular in a role that was only meant to last one day. Dietezen shared:

McCallum had been an occasional guest star on NCIS rather than a full-time cast member, but for the people who literally have grown up watching him, he was clearly a piece of TV comfort viewing.

With NCIS Season 21 likely to get underway soon, and resolve that NCIS Season 20 ending now that the WGA Strike appears to be coming to a close, there will almost certainly be some sort of send-off and remembrance of Ducky following McCallum’s passing. Even though he was no longer a regular part of the show, it will certainly be a different place knowing that Ducky won’t be coming out of that elevator again.

Like a lot of procedurals, NCIS has been through its fair share of casting changes over the years, from Jennifer Esposito leaving after one season, to series lead Mark Harmon bowing out early into Season 19. Among the higher profile exits was Pauley Perrette, who departed the hit CBS show in a heartbreaking way back in 2018. There’s no question her character, Abby Sciuto, was well liked by many of the fans, but after 15 seasons, the goth forensics specialist decided to start a new chapter of her life and resigned from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Within the show’s canon, Abby reached this decision in the episode “Two Steps Back” following the death of her colleague/friend Clayton Reeves, played by Duane Henry, as she wanted to honor his memory, and his mother’s, by starting a charity to help the homeless. So that accounts for Abby’s motivations, but were the circumstances behind why Perrette left NCIS in the real world? That’s what we’re here to go over.

What Pauley Perrette Initially Said About Leaving NCIS

Pauley Perrette’s exit from NCIS certainly didn’t come as a surprise to fans, or at least the ones who followed along with the show’s news cycle, The actress confirmed in October 2017 that she would leave the show at the end of Season 15, though her final appearances ultimately ended up coming two episodes prior to the season finale. Considering Perrette played Abby for a over decade and a half, which also counts the character’s introduction in the JAG two-parter “Ice Queen” and “Meltdown,” it’s not like she hadn’t spent plenty of time in those platform boots and drinking all that Caf Pow. (Sidenote, a fun NCIS behind-the-scenes fact is that Perrette studied criminal science in graduate school before taking up acting professionally.)

While Perrette didn’t initially provide a specific reason for leaving NCIS, she did debunk that it was to start her own “skin care line” or because the network and show were “mad” at her. All she divulged was that it was a decision she made the prior year and that she hoped fans loved what was done with Abby for the rest of Season 15. A month later, Perrette once again shot down the claim that she had her own skin care line coming up, but still didn’t provide any specifics besides why she felt it was time to put NCIS in the proverbial rear view mirror.

Before going any further, there’s something important to note for context. In Abby’s last scene in NCIS, she waved goodbye to Harmon’s Gibbs across the street from his house after leaving him a note. So the two actors weren’t actually onscreen together when the characters had their final moment. Remember that as we go into this next section.

What Was Later Revealed About Pauley Perrette’s NCIS Exit

On May 12, 2018, starting less than a week after her final NCIS episode aired, Pauley Perrette posted a series of vague tweets on the subject, just one of the many times she’s gotten extra candid on Twitter. She started off by saying that there were tabloid articles telling “total lies” about her, and she asked to be left alone. Then the following day, Perrette acknowledged that she might have been “wrong” for not “spilling the beans” about something because she felt she had to “protect my crew, jobs and so many people," and then tweeted a few hours later about how there was a “very rich, very powerful publicity machine” keeping her silent and feeding “false stories” about her. Finally, she tweeted about how she “left” following “multiple physical assaults,” adding, “I REALLY get it now. Stay safe. Nothing is worth your safety. Tell someone.”

So while the actress certainly wasn’t painting a complete picture with her statements, it was enough to cause NCIS fans to wonder if she’d left the show under less than ideal terms. Shortly thereafter, CBS released an official statement saying that Perrette had come to the network with a “workplace concern,” and that they “took the matter seriously and worked with her to find a resolution.” In response, Perrette thanked CBS and her “studio,” saying that they’d always “so good” to her and always had her back.

Then on May 17, 2018, The Wrap reported on the reason for why Pauley Perrette and Mark Harmon hadn’t appeared together on screen during NCIS Season 15. Back in October 2016, Harmon brought his dog on set and it bit a crew member (as had been reported at the time by TMZ), requiring them to get 15 stitches. Perrette purportedly objected to the dog continuing to be brought back on set, speaking both for herself and on behalf of crew members who were “uncomfortable” with the dog’s presence, but were “afraid” to confront Harmon about it. From there, her and Harmon’s professional relationship deteriorated to the point that an arrangement was reached where they never worked together on the same days. For the scenes where Gibbs and Abby were seen next to one another, that was accomplished through editing. 

Fast forward to June 7, 2019, Pauley Perrette tweeted that she would never return to NCIS because she was “terrified” of Mark Harmon and him “attacking” her, and that she had “nightmares” about this. This was her first public acknowledgement that there was bad blood between her and Harmon, and then she wrote in a tweet deleted shortly thereafter showing an unidentified person covered in bruises and stitches. Given her previous tweet though, the implication was that it was her in the photo. 

By the following July, Harmon was reportedly wanting CBS to back him up on this drama with Perrette and was even thinking about suing the actress for her statements, but he never publicly commented on the matter. Then on August 2, 2019, CBS president of entertainment Kelly Kahl said she couldn’t “speak” to what Perrette had been tweeting about and simply brought up the aforementioned “workplace concern” that had been resolved. 

In September 2023, NCIS executive producer Charles Floyd Johnson confirmed to THR that Harmon's dog was the catalyst for Perrette leaving, saying that she was "a huge, huge SPCA [Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] animal person," and that as the dog kept being brought to the set, she "felt it wasn’t safe for the show." As Johnson put it, eventually the actress hit a point where "it wasn’t working for her anymore, and it was time to move on."

What Pauley Perrette Did After NCIS

Two years after leaving NCIS, Pauley Perrette returned to CBS to star in the sitcom Broke, where she played a single mother named Jackie who took in her estranged sister and her husband after the man’s family cut them off. Broke was cancelled after just one 13-episode season that from April to June of 2020, and by the following November, Perrette announced that she’d retired from acting. 

The following few years proved to be especially challenging for the now-retired actress. In addition to her father dying from COVID in early 2021, Perrette shared in September 2022 that she’d suffered a “massive stroke” the previous September and got pretty candid about the health scare, writing that she nearly died. Perrette has kept a relatively private profile these days, not tweeting since March 2023.

Will Pauley Perrette Ever Come Back To NCIS?

Right off the bat, Pauley Perrette not acting anymore would indicate we won’t see her on NCIS again, but her retirement doesn’t necessarily have to be permanent. After all, Cameron Diaz did the same thing after starring in 2014’s Annie, then returned a decade later to re-team with Jamie Foxx for Netflix’s Back in Action. However, it’s also possible that the stroke might impaired Perrette’s performing abilities, though that’s just speculation.

Then there’s the Mark Harmon of it all to consider. As mentioned earlier, he hasn’t been part of NCIS for a few years, so him being gone could be enough for Perrette to stop by the series again, even if just for a guest spot. After all, Cote de Pablo reprised Ziva David for a handful of appearances in Seasons 17, so if Perrtette was game and able, the NCIS writers could surely come up with a scenario that leads to Abby Sciuto returning to her old stomping grounds. Granted, it’s a shame that fans will almost certainly never see Abby and Leroy Jethro Gibbs together again, but with people like Timothy McGee, Nick Torres and Jimmy Palmer still around, it’d still feel like a family reunion.

For 15 seasons, Pauley Perrette starred in NCIS as Abby Sciuto, the upbeat Goth who helped Leroy Jehtro Gibbs and his team solve crimes as a forensic scientist at Washington’s Navy Yard. While Perrette exited the popular CBS show back in 2018, she’s continued to share details to her fans about what’s going on in her personal life. This includes Perrette having recently commemorated the one-year anniversary of suffering a “massive stroke,” and now the actress has gotten candid about what it was like going through this health scare. 

Pauley Perrette has been through a lot over the last several years, including losing her father to COVID, so to pile a stroke on top of these personal tragedies is unfortunate. In a chat with ET, the NCIS actress recalled just what she experienced on that fateful day in September 2021, saying:

Pauley Perrette admitted that she was hesitant to follow this advice at first, and told this doctor that she planned to get a second opinion from her therapist, who’s also a neurologist, during an appointment later that same day. The doctor informed Perrette that if she managed to live until 5 p.m., which he was doubtful would happen, he believed her therapist would also recommend she go to the emergency room. So that’s just where she went, and Perrette continued the story thusly:

From there, Pauley Perrette was admitted to the hospital’s stroke ward and had her speech and mobility checked, among other things. The actress acknowledged that she dealt with some “lingering effects” from the stroke for a few months, she ultimately “fared quite well” because she decided to go to the hospital as soon as possible. Perrette then added:

Hopefully Pauley Perrette going over her experience dealing with a stroke will lead to others following in her footsteps by seeking immediate care if they suffer such physical symptoms rather than waiting to see what else happens. As far as Perrette’s professional life goes, she was last seen leading the short-lived CBS comedy Broke, which aired from April to June of 2020. Since then, it seems as as though Perrette has retired from acting, and while it doesn’t look like there are any plans to bring Abby Sciuto back to NCIS, showrunner Steven D. Binder has said that he’d like to start referencing the character more. In February 2022, Perrette teamed with fellow NCIS actors Michael Weatherly, Diona Reasonover, Rocky Carroll, and Meredith Eaton, along with other notable TV stars, to help raise money for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Needless to say we’ll let you know if it’s announced that Pauley Perrette will reprise Abby Sciuto on NCIS, but for now, the show’s 20th season premiere is carved out on the 2022 TV schedule for September 19.

NCIS is gearing up for its milestone 20th season, which premieres in a few weeks. With the CBS drama having had a multitude cast members depart throughout the years, there are definitely some characters that are greatly missed and haven’t really been brought up since their exits, aside from Mark Harmon's Jethro Gibbs. Though according to showrunner Steven D. Binder, another OG character might get the same treatment as Gibbs, and it's Chief Forensic Scientist Abby Sciuto.

Pauley Perrette portrayed the forensic scientist for NCIS’ first 15 seasons. Following a street mugging that left Abby in critical condition, she started a new chapter in her life, and fans haven’t seen on the show since. With the series subtly bringing up Mark Harmon’s Gibbs from time to time since his exit last season, Steven D. Binder tells TVLine that they’re planning to do the same thing for Abby:

The actress has confirmed in the past that she doesn’t plan on returning to the show (mainly because the NCIS alum has seemingly retired from acting), so it would be great to get some type of update on her character. While the series producer didn’t say exactly how Abby could be brought up, I'm definitely interested in finding out what she’s been up to and how she’s been recovering. Hopefully, she’s stayed in touch with the NCIS team since leaving.

Pauley Perrette announced her official exit from the series in 2018 on Twitter, giving a spiritual and religious reason for leaving. Ahead of her departure, Perrette posted a message to fans, encouraging them to watch her final episode. Hopefully, the writers have satisfying ideas in mind for any references to her.

Weatherly, on the other hand, shared his support for Broke ahead of the show’s premiere in 2020. It never hurts to have good friends during good and tough times.

It’s a great thing when celebrities come together for occasions like this. In 2020, just about a month into the nationwide lockdown, multiple alums from popular medical shows like ER, Scrubs and Grey’s Anatomy joined together for a tribute to real-life frontline workers. This was just one of many charitable causes that's been initiated since the pandemic began and, quite frankly, they've been lovely to see.

Aside from this latest effort, Pauley Perrette has stayed close to some of her NCIS co-stars since leaving the series, which is made clear by the video. In the summer of 2021, she sent Michael Weatherly a sweet message for his birthday, and she’s gushed before about working with him on the long-running CBS series. Even though she no longer works with her former co-stars on a regular basis, you have to love that they were able to come together in this special way. 

When it comes to the cause itself, as mentioned, it provides aid to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. The exact goal is to provide equipment, training and specific programs for the team. It goes without saying that we're living in uncertain times right now, and many people can certainly use a hand. While it's cool to see all of these stars together again, many would likely agree with me when I say that the message here is far more important.

One thing about having a particular acting job for a long time is that you have to keep your hair a certain way for years. Pauley Perrette had a very notable look during her tenure on NCIS as Abby Sciuto, for example. While the character’s fashion choices played a part in that, so did her notable fringe. Paulette later kept the bangs and dark hair for her gig on Broke, but now that she’s taking a break from acting, she’s opted to totally drop the bangs and change her hair to a rainbow-colored look.

Non-natural hair colors have been extremely popular in recent years. A lot of people stuck at home during the pandemic tried their hands at fun colors, and celebrities were no exception. Honestly, though, bright colors like green or pink in interesting places, patterns, and streaks have been growing more popular for a while, now. The now blonde, but formerly green-haired Billie Eilish might have a little something to do with that, but I’m just speculating.

As for Pauley Perrette’s newfound rainbow hair, I’m not sure what prompted the look. However, the former NCIS star did make it clear she was retiring from acting after CBS unceremoniously cancelled her series Broke after it only had one season on the air. (She also noted an interest in getting tattoos and piercings at the time.) Ergo, she does not need to worry about her hair being a particular color or looking a particular way for any roles she could potentially take in the future, because there probably will be no roles.

Retirement has come with some lessons for the star. A few months ago, Pauley Perrette also said that she's learned during retirement who her real friends really are, as many people reportedly fell out of her life once they found out she had plans to take a step back from Hollywood. Having said that, Perrette is still on good terms with some of her NCIS co-stars, including Michael Weatherly, whom she recently wished all her "love" on his birthday. Since her tenure on the show ended in 2018, she's reunited for a fundraiser with Brian Dietzen and more as well.

Having said that, I'm sure many fans miss seeing Perrette on the small screen, but to be frank, she should have made a fine chunk of change during her tenure on network television in order to supplement her retirement. She certainly seems like she's enjoying her time away from showbiz so far.

Although her and Michael Weatherly's characters were never romantically linked, they had a friendly, platonic relationship that can make anyone jealous. DiNozzo was basically Abby’s brother, as he was protective of her. So Perrette’s tweet keeps their “family” bond still a very real thing.

In the years following their time NCIS, Pauley Perrette and Michael Weatherly have shown support for each other on multiple occasions. Weatherly showed his support for Perrette and her new CBS show Broke last year and was even willing to tape it over an episode of Friends. And shortly after that, Perrette gushed about her former co-star, saying that he’s like her brother. Both actors stayed with CBS after their stints on NCIS and, while the network cancelled Broke, Weatherly’s Bull is still going strong. Maybe she’ll guest star in the upcoming season?

Pauley Perrette left NCIS on her own time when it became clear to her through other means that then was the right time. Meanwhile, Michael Weatherly decided to leave NCIS so he could branch out professionally, considering he'd been on the series for 13 years. And although Weatherly has had some tough times on Bull (especially after facing some allegations in 2018), he still remains close to not only Perrette but some of his other NCIS co-stars as well.

Last year, Perrette and Weatherly even reunited with some of their NCIS co-stars for a good cause. They got together with Brian Dietzen, Rocky Carroll, and Sasha Alexander for Project Angel Food, which helps to deliver meals to families in need. The nonprofit had put on a telethon and, while getting involved, it looks like the alums had the time of their lives. Since NCIS isn’t going anywhere, at least for now, it’s possible that Perrette and Weatherly could reunite on screen at some point, especially since it’s been teased the latter will make an appearance again on the series.

It’s always so nice to see former co-stars get together and see that there’s been no change in their relationship. It gives fans nostalgia for what was and provides hope for what could happen. That could mean a new project in the works or simply updates on personal get-togethers between the stars. Regardless of that though, the relationship between Pauley Perrette and Michael Weatherly will likely endure and will only make it easier to see why their relationship worked so well on NCIS.

Longtime NCIS star Pauley Perrette lost her father earlier this year to Covid-19. The two were extremely close. Earlier this month, she released an honest and touching video talking about her first Father’s Day without him. The project in question is called Faces Of Covid. It’s a Twitter account with almost 150,000 subscribers. It tweets out a picture of people who have died from Covid along with a quote from family and friends about what they were like. Pauley Perrette was repeatedly open about her close relationship with her dad prior to his passing. She dropped a social media post with pictures last year after he visited the set of her show Broke for a special episode about dads. He even gave the occasional interview updating fans on what his daughter was doing and even recommending what he thought she should do next. It was really touching to see, as the entertainment industry isn’t always the most family-centric place, and it was also touching to see after his passing Perrette announce she was working on a project to help raise money for firefighters in honor of her dad and uncle.

Following an incredible fifteen year run on NCIS, Pauley Perrette returned to television last year with the show Broke. The sitcom initially got middling reviews but seemed to be finding its way when it was abruptly cancelled. Given her popularity and connection with fans, Perrette definitely could have found another acting job, but instead, she decided to step away and retire, which has caused her to reflect quite a bit on the business and fame in general.

Losing a close family member is never easy. Losing one to a pandemic no doubt brings along its own unique feelings. Good for Pauley Perrette for being so open and honest with her own feelings. With so many people in the same boat, there’s no doubt her words and videos are helping other people find common ground and dealing with their own pain. Paul Perrette will clearly be missed, as will everyone else who lost their lives to Covid.

Former NCIS star Pauley Perrette shocked fans last November when she revealed that she'd retired from acting. The move came after her (rather tumultuous) exit from the crime procedural in 2018 after 15 seasons of playing fan favorite Abby Sciuto, and after her freshman CBS sitcom, Broke, was cancelled just weeks before its season finale. Now that the star has had several months to adjust to the change in her career status, though, she's opening up about the one thing she's learned about Hollywood while in retirement.

In early November 2020, Pauley Perrette noted that her decision to retire came after over 40 years in the entertainment industry, and that she was glad to be able to finally live her life without wondering about the potential ramifications of her actions on her career in a field where how you look matters a lot. While she clearly sounded pleased about her decision to leave the profession behind and focus on other interests in the wake of Broke being cancelled that May, Perrette has now revealed what she's learned about Hollywood in retirement, and took to Twitter to share her findings with fans:

Wow. It is telling, isn't it? I'm sure most of us can imagine the various scenarios that Pauley Perrette has come upon recently, where it would have become clear to her that people she thought were worth having in her life, were actually way more interested in being around her because she could, potentially, help out their careers.

Obviously, it's not just that Perrette had a long career herself in the entertainment industry, but that she had a steady gig on a very popular show where she gained a lot of fans, which would lead a lot of people to try and get into her good graces. Fifteen seasons is a long time to be on one television show, and she surely made connections there who could help others get a leg up in the industry.

Perrette has always seemed like a pretty kind, generous person, so she probably has tried to help people out along the way, but that doesn't mean she would be happy about someone only getting to know her (or staying in her life) because of what they thought she could do for them.

Before you get too upset for Pauley Perrette, though, know that now that several of her fake friends have, seemingly, fallen away, she doesn't appear to be too sad about it. If anything, once the initial shock of figuring out why someone truly got to know you was over, it would likely be nice to have that revealed so that you could proceed to spend you time and energy on the people who really matter. And, it turns out that Perrette does have a solid support system left. As she noted later:

Former NCIS star and women-in-science advocate Pauley Perrette has been beloved by fans for years thanks in part to her extended stint as the CBS crime drama's tattooed brainiac Abby Sciuto. She vacated that role in a cloud of controversy back in 2018, and then somewhat surprisingly returned to CBS for the sitcom Broke, which was cancelled in May weeks ahead of airing its season finale. Fans hoping to soon hear about her next big TV project are bound to be disappointed, though, as the actress has revealed she is now retired.

While many people were perfecting their Halloween costumes over the weekend, Pauley Perrette was on Twitter seeking recommendations for a tattoo shop, while also celebrating the rare notion that she doesn't currently have any professional obligations holding her back. Now, before anyone starts speculating that Pauley Perrette might use her "whatever I want" outlook to latch onto a promising TV project or some other entertainment venture, the (former?) actress replied to her own message a short while later and clarified her previous comments by confirming her retirement. In her words:

Following her self-guided exit from NCIS, Pauley Perrette hinted that she wanted to get away from the acting world for a while, while also sharing some weighted accusations about former co-star Mark Harmon and other executive producers on the CBS hit. She claimed some physical attacks went down, including a dog-biting incident, and at one point vowed that she would never return to NCIS unless all of the accused parties were removed from their duties. Perrette's motives for joining Broke involved tapping into a more lighthearted series that utilized her comedic potential. Had the rags-and-riches sitcom not debuted during the earliest days of the pandemic quarantine, it might have had a better shot at lasting beyond its first season, but the timing was extremely unfortunate.

As well, if Broke had survived cancellation worries earlier this year, Pauley Perrette would likely still be working under contract with CBS while prepping for Season 2. But it appears that experience was all she needed to make the big career-changing decision to hang up her acting gloves and retire. It's a respectable decision, as disappointing as it may be for many fans, and we can only hope that she will decide to reverse course at some point for the perfect project. Perhaps something unscripted and more in line with Mythbusters, Emily's Wonder Lab or Brain Games to match up with those interests.

After 15 seasons as a beloved star on CBS' NCIS, Pauley Perrette made her exit as Abby Sciuto back in 2018. The career shift appeared to come out of the blue at the time, though Perrette has since made troubling claims of behind-the-scenes abuse that influenced her decision to bow out of TV's most-watched drama. In the wake of CBS firing Hawaii Five-0 reboot creator and now-former MacGyver showrunner Peter Lenkov over various behind-the-scenes complaints, Perrette fiercely recalled her NCIS problems and pointed out how nothing has changed on the show.

Not long after it was reported that MacGyver star Lucas Till felt suicidal over the way Peter Lenkov treated both him and others on the set, Pauley Perrette took to Twitter with an emotionally driven set of messages that recalled similar allegations that she and others leveled against certain CBS employees. Here's how she put it when sharing Vanity Fair extensive look into the complaints made against Lenkov.

With her use of "that other guy," Pauley Perrette is very likely speaking of her former NCIS co-star Mark Harmon, whose Leroy Gibbs has been the core lead for the drama's entire run. Perrette has made several accusations of abuse about Harmon in the past, though not always directly by name, and said she would never return to NCIS because of him. She does use "MH" in a later tweet, but Perrette first brought up a conversation she reportedly had with The Talk creator and The Conners star Sara Gilbert. In her words:

To date, Pauley Perrette hasn't publicly divulged very many details about her assault claims and other complaints, for various reasons. The above message is about as direct as it gets, calling him and others guilty of using racist, gender-biased and homophobic language, and again implying that was the reason why she quit the show. Perrette then points out that neither Harmon nor anyone else that she made HR complaints about were ever removed from NCIS.

Though Pauley Perrette clearly has issues with Mark Harmon and others involved with NCIS, those issues didn't extend to the entirety of the CBS network. After taking some time away from the small screen, Perrette followed up on NCIS by returning to CBS with the sitcom Broke. Though the show was cancelled, the actress still celebrated its existence, having said it was a more natural fit for her than NCIS was.

Mark Harmon reportedly sought to get CBS to defend him against Pauley Perrette's claims, with rumors of a potential lawsuit also floating around. It doesn't appear that anything major has happened on that front since, though it's possible that more will come from this situation in the future.

At this point, CBS is still planning on bringing the next season of NCIS to fans this fall, though with productions still on lockdown, it's unclear if that will still happen or not. May was a tough month for many of us for several reasons, but former NCIS star Pauley Perrette had even more reason to be disappointed when her new CBS comedy, Broke, was cancelled about a month after the debut of its first season. As could be expected, Perrette had lots of hopes for the sitcom, and was enjoying being back on set after enduring a fairly tumultuous time on her former series, which she had been a part of since 2003. Broke was allowed to finish airing Season 1, though, and now Perrette has said a lovely goodbye to the show.

Broke's 13-episode first season was able to be completed before production shut downs took over Hollywood, so fans of the freshman sitcom were, at least, able to get a good taste of the family shenanigans which were on offer before the show left the air for good. The final episode aired just last night, and Pauley Perrette took to Twitter to say her last goodbye to the show. Take a look!

Awww! I really do get the feeling that, even though they only had a short time together, the cast and crew of Broke managed to form some real bonds off camera. While Perrette spent a whopping 15 seasons on NCIS, and shocked fans by leaving the series in 2018, her departure from the show was not one filled with the kind of love and light she's had for her new "Broke family." There was a lot of controversy surrounding why she left, and it sounds like having Broke really helped Perrette get back in the game, though she is still close with some of her former NCIS castmates.

A few days after the series was cancelled, Pauley Perrette left a video message for fans on her social media to let them know that they had plenty of new episodes coming up, despite the cancellation, and noted that working on Broke was basically a balm for her soul after what she went through on NCIS, saying, in part:

Broke followed Perette's Jackie, a feisty single mom, after she lets her snobby sister and brother-in-law move in once they lose all of their money. While there were plenty of tensions between the estranged family members because of class differences, it seems clear that none of that applied to the cast in real life.

Pauley Perrette also made sure to thank the fans for watching Broke, and briefly mentioned how much the show meant to people. Aside from, obviously, giving jobs to the cast and crew, Perrette was likely talking about how the comedy could have helped lighten the emotional load of this time for its fans, by giving then something fun, family-oriented and uplifting to look forward to for a few weeks. One of Perrette's co-stars on Broke, Jaime Camil, had noted something similar just a few days after the show debuted, so I can imagine that she shared his feelings about the comedy helping viewers through the difficulty of the past few months.

It’s been a short while since CBS dropped the schedule-altering TV news that a bunch of its programming was getting cancelled. Among these were a couple of staples, such as God Friended Me and Man with a Plan and news shows, including Carol’s Second Act, Tommy and the brand-spanking new series Broke starring fan-favorite actress Pauley Perette. According to a CBS head honcho it was a “tough call.”

Now, I know it would never be likely for a head honcho of any sort to act like cancelling a series is an easy decision. After all, a lot of people depend on network shows staying alive to maintain salaries and livelihoods. However, CBS Head of Entertainment Kelly Kahl called cancelling Broke and others a “tough call,” but also went a step further and explained why.

What Kelly Kahl does not say in his comment to Deadline is that this business in general is difficult. I doubt anyone working on the backend at the Eye Network relishes revealing that people will need to find new jobs come fall. But that’s also just the nature of the TV business, whether or not a person works for a network or a subscription streaming service like Netflix.

There are different reasons for cancellations. God Friended Me was a bit of a surprise as it had never been a huge ratings bringer but was critically liked; often that’s enough to propel a show for a while longer. Man with a Plan was possibly more about its budget than its ratings per the report. Broke had a strong premiere episode but then the ratings dipped in subsequent weeks.

So, “tough” call or no, there are often different reasons for networks choosing to let shows go, although the God Friended me cancellation seemed to be more of a shock to that cast than some of the other shows being let go. In fact, Brandon Michael Hall and others revealed as much in a previous interview and the show ultimately ended without revealing who “god” was.

Pauley Perrette, on the other hand, seemed less surprised by the news and more grateful for the opportunity, previously noting:

The yearly cancellation bloodbath is nothing new and has actually been less bad in some ways this year as some networks are waiting to figure out when shows will be able to go back into production and how the industry will look. For now there is a already a lengthy list of shows we are saying goodbye to this year.

Having your TV show cancelled is never a good feeling, but Pauley Perrette is making the most of having her new show, Broke, cut down by CBS as the first season was still airing. Broke just debuted in early April, and while the comedy didn't get long to find an audience, all of the completed episodes will still air as planned. Perrette has already come out and spoken about how much she loved working on the show after NCIS, and now she's shared an especially touching post on Twitter about the most recent episode.

This Thursday's episode of Broke featured Jackie (Perrette) deciding to go visit her father in prison, and the airing of it reminded Perrette of her own family, especially some time she spent with her dad while they filmed this episode. So, she took to her Twitter page to share a message with fans. Take a look!

Awww. It's clear that Pauley Perrette had some strong emotions come up when she realized which episode of Broke would be airing last night, and she was probably right in thinking that many of her fans would be able to understand what she was feeling, so she shared this special post to let them know that they aren't alone.

As Perrette noted to her followers, there are a lot of people missing their families right now. With most of the country still self-isolating, unless you actually live with some of your family members, you've been going it alone for many weeks. While people can easily do video chats with a lot of their family to keep in touch and see for themselves that everyone is doing OK, nothing really beats seeing the one you love face to face. And, with that not being an option for most of us at this time, Perrette knows that several of us are feeling what she is.

Even though Pauley Perrette clearly believes in Broke and is glad that she was able to have some family time with her father on set, she and the cast and crew didn't have long to enjoy each other's company. Broke was cancelled earlier in May, just a little over a month after it debuted, and Perrette honored the show after cancellation by talking about how working on the show restored her faith in people and her industry, noting that the people she worked with there were the "best people I’ve ever worked with," and the experience "Healed me. Changed me. Made me whole."

That's certainly high praise for the show, her fellow cast members, and the crew who worked behind the scenes. So, while Pauley Perrette's time on Broke may be over, at least she got some lovely time with her dad out of it, and the experience as a whole was worth it.

It’s May, which means that along with Justin Timberlake memes we’re getting plenty of network cancellations. This year, even shows with big ticket names are saying sayonara, as Pauley Perrette’s Broke and Matt LeBlanc’s Man with a Plan were both canceled. Perrette has spoken out about CBS’ decision to make Broke a “limited series” as well as is doing a good job of supporting the series as it wraps its run.

In fact, Pauley Perrette called the most recent episode of Broke “Losing My Religion” “the most important half hour of of television I’ve ever done,” before launching into a post about how the new comedy really revitalized her love for the acting business after her tough exit from NCIS. According to the actress:

Meanwhile, Pauley Perrette is still being supportive of Broke. Along with the full video message on her Twitter, the actress shared a recent social distancing post of herself and her co-star as the show continues to surge forward.

In fact, there are several episodes of Broke left to air on CBS. When shows get cancelled, there’s a tendency for viewers to fall off or at least clear their DVRs, and obviously Pauley Perrette is hoping that doesn’t happen. She really seems to believe in the show and some of the episodes coming up.

Sometimes with comedies it takes a while before a show really finds its footing or the comedic characters really evolve into the people they are meant to be. Unfortunately for Broke, CBS opted to axe the series when it was just a few episodes into its run.

The show’s ratings weren’t horrible or anything, but its 18-49 demographic numbers were pretty low, indicating not a ton of young people were watching Pauley Perrette’s big comeback on the big screen. It’s also worth pointing out the show dropped over 25% in total viewers week to week between Episode 1 and Episode 2, which is probably not a great look in a time when most shows are seeing an uptick in viewers due to global events. (Although a drop in viewers after a premiere is a fairly normal occurrence.)

At the end of the day, Pauley Perrette stands by her series. It, in fact, took a little time for the actress to choose her NCIS follow-up and when she did, she chose to jump into comedy rather than a drama, which might have been expected from her fanbase. She previously explained, however, that comedy was generally a good fit for her and NCIS was actually the outlier on her resume.

There was a lot of opportunity with Broke to sort of tie in with NCIS through bringing on guest stars and more, but now the series won’t get the chance. Luckily, Pauley Perrette is still a popular actress and will hopefully land somewhere new soon.

Well, this has certainly turned out to be a weirder television season than anyone could have expected. Many shows had to shutdown production early and were then forced to end their seasons with finales that were actually one or more episodes away from the previously planned finale episode the showrunners had in mind. But, we're in May now, and as this is the time of year when shows tend to be renewed and cancelled en masse, we're finally getting to our first news of what's sticking around and what's saying goodbye after the 2019-2020 TV season is over. Unfortunately, this means that Pauley Perrette's new sitcom, Broke, along with the shows of some of her CBS cohorts, have now been cancelled.

CBS announced the cancellations today, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Broke is joining three other shows on the schedule in making their swan songs at the end of the current TV season. Edie Falco's cop drama Tommy, Patricia Heaton starrer Carol's Second Act, and the Matt LeBlanc family sitcom Man With a Plan will all be joining Broke in that big TV graveyard in the sky.

Broke

When Pauley Perrette decided to leave her gig as an original cast member of CBS' hit crime procedural NCIS behind in late 2017, fans were stunned, and didn't know when they'd be able to see one of their favorites on TV again after her last episode aired in May 2018. But, it didn't take long for Perrette to find something that suited her even better than her former role as Abby Sciuto, because she signed on for Broke in March of the following year, with the show premiering just a little over a month ago, on April 2.

Broke followed Pauley Perrette as feisty single mom Jackie, who feels forced to put up with her snobby sister and brother-in-law when they lose all of their money and come knocking on her door for a place to live (along with their loyal assistant / driver / friend) while adjusting to financial ruin. The estranged family then had to deal with class differences, as well as there now being too many folks in a small home, but it would seem that while fans loved Perrette on NCIS, Broke was not enough to their liking.

Man With A Plan

As one of the stars of possibly the biggest sitcom of the '90s through mid-'00s, Matt LeBlanc could have probably easily retired after he finished his run on Friends. While he tried to keep that magic going with Joey, he hit another comedy stride playing an outrageous version of himself on Showtime's Episodes, and then decided to head back to network sitcoms with Man With a Plan in the fall of 2016. While reviews for the show were lackluster, it's clear that fans enjoyed seeing LeBlanc back in a sitcom, which led to Man With a Plan being the longest-running show in this batch of cancellations.

Man With a Plan saw Matt LeBlanc's character take on additional parenting duties for his three children when his wife returned to work after being a full-time parent for 13 years. It's clear that the show connected with audiences for a time, as it just returned for Season 4 at the beginning of April. But, Man With a Plan was never a big hit for CBS, and the ratings fall that began in the second season continued into Season 3, and wasn't able to rebound to the relative highs of Season 1 after it's recent debut.

Tommy

Tommy saw Sopranos alum Edie Falco return to TV after another long run on a very different, but still prestigious show: Nurse Jackie. Fans were, once again, excited to hear that Falco would be coming back to television, this time on network TV as the first female Chief of Police in Los Angeles on Tommy. The drama debuted in early February to average views, with most saying that Falco was the real key to any success the show might see.

Ratings for Tommy were likely a lot lower than the ones CBS was hoping to see for a police procedural starring an actor as beloved as Edie Falco, so while the weekly numbers were never a complete disaster, clearly the network felt that the hour it had devoted to Tommy would be better served elsewhere.

Carol's Second Act

Just like Edie Falco, Patricia Heaton had come off of two major hits by the time she landed on CBS with Carol's Second Act. Known for her runs on long-time sitcom favorites Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, she headed back to the network that helped raise her profile for a new comedy.

Carol's Second Act saw Patricia Heaton's Carol try for her dream job as a doctor after raising a family, getting divorced and leaving her career as a teacher in her 50s. The series made its debut in September, and while it was a consistent performer for CBS, its ratings and total viewer averages were down 25 and 17 percent, respectively, from what the Murphy Brown revival did in the same timeslot in the previous season. That, added with some behind the scenes issues, probably led to the network deciding to give it the boot.

While these cancellations are certainly tough blows for the fans of each series, CBS did renew 15 scripted shows, which now join Young Sheldon, Evil and Mom in getting to shine for another year.

There are some shows where cast members get along great and like to hang out outside of work and other shows where sets can be a bit icier. Although Pauley Perrette did reportedly have a little trouble while working on her former CBS show NCIS, there’s at least one co-star she still keeps tabs on and is friends with in real life: Michael Weatherly.

In fact, speaking as part of the promotion for CBS’ new comedy Broke, Pauley Perrette spoke out a bit about Michael Weatherly after the Bull actor (also on CBS) recently revealed he was set to watch Broke. She noted the actor is basically like her “brother.” Go ahead, cue the awws.

Pauley Perrette spoke warmly about Michael Weatherly in her conversation with USA Today and told the outlet she remains friends with many of her NCIS co-stars. The actress notably clashed on set over Mark Harmon bringing his dog around, an issue that made headlines when the actress wrote repeatedly about her former co-star on the Internet. (CBS later explained the situation had been resolved.) Yet, she still generally seems to have had a fond experience on the show and even stuck with the network for her next project, as well.

This isn't the first time it's been clear that Pauley Perrette and Michael Weatherly are chummy. Back when Pauley Perrette announced Broke was set to premiere in April, Michael Weatherly admitted he would absolutely be “recording” the show and he did so in a pretty amusing manner, noting,

The two starred together on NCIS for years playing Abby Sciuto and Anthony DiNozzo on the popular series before Michael Weatherly left the show to headline Bull, which has now run for four seasons. Pauley Perrette followed, exiting NCIS at the tail end of the 2018 TV season, in an episode that hit ratings highs for that season of the long-running series.

After a short hiatus from TV, her new series Broke has enjoyed a pretty decent run on CBS so far, although its demographics skew a little older and it hasn’t broken the 1.0 rating barrier in the 18-49 demographic. Still, this past week’s episode landed around 5 million viewers in its Thursday night slot.

Broke stars Pauley Perrette, Jaime Camil, Natasha Leggero and Antonio Raul Corbo and airs on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, its sister network show Bull starring Michael Weatherly has one more episode left in Season 4, which is set to hit the schedule on May 4. It’ll have to compete with all the Star Wars stuff heading to Disney+ that day, but if there was any network fit for that, it would probably be CBS.

Welcome to the new normal, everyone! Life has been tough for several reasons for over a month now, and there are some questions that many people have been asking themselves during this sad, weird time. Do weekends even mean anything anymore? What will I be willing to use as toilet paper when I finish my last roll? If I don't bake bread, will I be left out of all the important conversations happening right now? But, possibly the most important question has been what to do so that we all keep our spirits up, and Pauley Perrette's Broke co-star, Jaime Camil thinks their new show can help with that.

Some people like to lean in to things that are upsetting when times get rough. But, for every person who's spent the past several weeks watching disaster movies of various stripes, there's someone who just wants to escape harsh realities as much as possible and find a way to laugh through these hard times. Actor Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), who co-stars on the new CBS sitcom Broke with former NCIS mainstay Pauley Perrette, believes it's a good thing that their show hit the air when it did. Here's what he told Access Hollywood:

Here, here, Jaime Camil! He's not wrong, OK? I think even the people who've been binging the news or, oh, I don't know, zombie / apocalypse movies, will understand that a lot of us simply are not in the mood for that noise right now. Many people are spending more time than ever before watching TV or streaming movies (even if they have to pay way more than usual to watch them), and we want some comfort and light in our entertainment right now.

Or, at the very least, we want to know that big problems can be solved, but without having to sit through a series of events that hit too close to home at the moment. This is likely why some of the other shows on Broke's network are experiencing some highs in viewership and ratings recently. Procedurals like NCIS, FBI and its spinoff Most Wanted, as well as SEAL Team, have been doing quite well in recent weeks, along with competitions like Survivor and even long-running daytime game shows like Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right.

CBS already seems like one of the places where people are going during this difficult time to find some solace, so it's especially fitting that Broke calls the eye network home. Hopefully, Jaime Camil is right, and people will watch the new comedy and be able to find at least "a little joy" in it to help them get through the next few weeks.

Pauley Perrette may have left her NCIS days behind, but she played Abby Sciuto for 15 whole seasons and left a lasting impression on viewers. Perrette has since moved on to star in CBS’ latest sitcom Broke, a series that is wildly different from NCIS, and the actress recently explained why the new show makes a lot more sense for her than NCIS did.

Broke follows the story of Pauley Perrette’s Jackie, a single mother whose life is upended when her estranged sister and her sister’s wealthy husband suddenly find themselves strapped for cash and in need of a place to stay. Prior to the dramatic life of NCIS, Perrette had guest-starred in comedy series like The Drew Carrey Show and Frasier, and she was a series regular on the short-lived ABC sitcom That’s Life. Speaking with USA Today, Perrette recalled those jobs in revealing why she feels Broke is more of a fit for her. Here’s what she had to say:

It sounds like Pauley Perrette is really happy being a part of CBS’ new series, which also stars Jane the Virgin standout Jaime Camil and stand-up comedian Natasha Leggero as her brother-in-law and sister, respectively. The comedy marks Pauley Perrette’s return to television after vacating NCIS, and she claims the sitcom is her “favorite show I’ve ever done.”

Amid all the complications that are happening right now in the outside world, Perrette believes a show like Broke is exactly what viewers need at the moment. Personally, I’m glad that she seems comfortable and excited about her new job, considering how things left off with her last one.

That said, it does sound like Pauley Perrette is not willing to discuss NCIS more than she absolutely has to, as it’s all in the “past now.” She doesn't even refer to it by name, but rather "that military show about murder." That does make some sense, considering the controversial aftermath of her departure back in 2018. Though Abby wasn’t killed off, the character decided to leave the team behind to start a charity to honor Craig, who died saving Abby’s life in the field.

That was all onscreen, however. In a series of confusing tweets following her final episode, Pauley Perrette alleged that several physical assaults led to her exit. She later alleged that it was series star Mark Harmon who had attacked her, and that she reportedly wasn’t coming back to the show because she is “terrified” of him. On a more positive note, Perrette is still friends with other NCIS co-stars like Bull’s Michael Weatherly, whom she says she loves “more than anything on the planet.”

Thankfully for Perrette, she's back in the genre she started off in, and hopefully Broke will give her many years of laughs to come.

Many of her co-stars reacted to her last episode on the long-running drama, however, there are a few of her former NCIS castmates that Pauley Perrette is closer to than others, and she has now named three of those as actors she would like to have on Broke. First off, she told TV Insider that she would like to have Brian Dietzen on the show.

Weatherly has been incredibly supportive of Perrette’s upcoming venture, even sending out a tweet to show it. Perrette has also supported him, and Perrette clearly enjoyed their time together enough to want to reunite for Broke. She also said that Weatherly is “One of the funniest human beings!”

Pauley Perrette also wants Timothy McGee’s portrayer to join her on Broke, which is a not entirely surprising selection. After Perrette’s exit, Sean Murray weighed in on how working on NCIS had been since she departed the show, and he indicated that it was sad to see her go. That said, Murray respected her decision to move on. Will he decide to move over to Broke for a guest appearance? Stay tuned.

Pauley Perrette did not mention having Wilmer Valderrama guest on Broke, but, given that Perrette’s new show is a sitcom, you have to wonder if it has crossed her mind. Valderrama starred on the very popular That '70s Show for many seasons, so you know he would be great. Perrette did have glowing things to say about recently running into her former co-star, saying:

Considering how many NCIS fans adored Abby, and in turn loved Pauley Perrette herself, there was tons of support for the actress to return to the small screen at some point. That said, CBS' Broke might not have been the most obvious project for her to dive into after polishing those dramatic skills for so long. Here's how she explained it when asked if she'd seriously considered an early retirement after NCIS:

In her interview with TV Insider, Pauley Perrette made it sound like she did indeed put some thought into pushing acting to the sidelines so that she could kick her feet up and relax with some brews, some four-legged buddies, and the boob tube. That kind of lifestyle is nothing to shake a stick at if you can make it work. However, it sounds like loved ones in Perrette's life had some less beer-intensive ideas for how her time might be better spent.

So rather than sticking around the home front, Pauley Perrette dove right back into the network TV life that she was used to, albeit with tons of differences. This will be Perrette's first time as a series regular in a network comedy in over 20 years, and her character doesn't have anything to do with solving murders or wearing goth makeup. Also, she's a mom!

According to the actress, she wasn't so interested in joining a TV show in a motherly role, but something definitely changed in that respect. Perrette's character Jackie is the mom to Anthony Raul Corbo's Sammy, but it seems like the son will be the least of Jackie's problems. The plot revolves around Jackie's sister Elizabeth (Natasha Leggero) and her once-wealthy husband Javier (Jaime Camil) having to move into Jackie's home after losing their hefty fortune. What's more, Javier's driver and assistant Luis (Izzy Dias) is also part of the move-in package.

The new situation creates tension, of course, with Elizabeth being spoiled by her former life, and Jackie being miffed that the sister chose money over giving a hand with raising Sammy. Of course, with the always hilarious Natasha Leggero playing Elizabeth, I can't see the siblings' rivalry actually hitting any truly dramatic zeniths.

Speaking of, one can only hope that Pauley Perrette's experiences on Broke outshine the way things went during the final leg of her NCIS stint. Though her official exit was pretty normal and non-confrontational, it wasn't long at all before Perrette dropped some high-octane allegations that claimed "multiple physical assaults" were experienced, saying she hadn't expressed concern publicly before because she didn't want to handle things that way. But once certain tabloids started publishing their own stories about behind-the-scenes rumors, Perette came out with her own admissions.

CBS backed up the claims that Pauley Perrette did indeed make a workplace complaint prior to leaving NCIS, and she was appreciative for it. Still, don't expect Perrette's CBS gig to convince her to pop back in for an NCIS cameo, because she's already stated she's never going back to the show, holding former co-star Mark Harmon responsible for her departure.

The network (finally) recently revealed that Broke will air as part of the Thursday night comedy lineup that used to include The Big Bang Theory. Now it will be led off by Young Sheldon, followed by Man With a Plan, then Mom, and Broke.

Broke is a comedy about Jackie (Pauley Perrette), a single suburban mother who’s shocked when her estranged sister Elizabeth (Natasha Leggero) -- and her sister’s outrageously wealthy, big-hearted Latin husband Javier (Jaime Camil), and Javier’s fiercely loyal assistant/driver/friend -- all show up on her doorstep in need of a place to live. It'll be interesting to see if NCIS fans turn up to watch Pauley Perrette in this very different role. She is famous for playing Abby Sciuto from NCIS Season 1 through Season 15. She was very popular on the show across more than 350 episodes. However the circumstances of her departure have been clouded in confusion and drama, including some kind of clash with Mark Harmon. Perrette has tweeted some hints and outright allegations in the past. But it sounds like everyone has moved on since then, and she's certainly OK with returning to CBS.

Just recently, she made it clear -- through her favorite social media medium, Twitter -- that she will never return to NCIS. She specifically name-dropped Mark Harmon as a reason why:

NCIS fans were shocked, then confused, when Pauley Perrette announced she was leaving the show. Why? Well, she shared some hints, and much later added the Mark Harmon stuff above. But at one point, she took to Twitter to dispute a skin care line rumor:

Some fans assumed "he" was Mark Harmon, since part of the drama seems tied to Harmon's dog biting a crew member in 2016. The bite required 15 stitches, TheWrap reports, and Pauley was said to be upset when Harmon kept bringing the dog to set.

CBS reps responded to Pauley's accusation of multiple physical assaults by saying she had come to them with a workplace concern, and they took the matter seriously and worked to find a resolution. Pauley replied to that by thanking her studio and network CBS, adding "They have always been so good to me and always had my back."

Pauley Perrette On Negative NCIS Tweets

In July 2013, CBS revealed that Ziva actress Cote de Pablo would be leaving NCIS early in Season 11. Pauley Perrette shared sweet words about de Pablo to Yahoo, saying, "It's very emotional. We love her and we all support her. It was her decision and there's nothing but love there." However, at the same time, she was also spotted wearing a shirt that read "I [heart] My Job" and tweeted "I love my job. #NCIS." Some fans felt like that was a shot at Cote de Pablo, and one replied to Pauley with, "No offence, but the message on your t shirt? very poor taste. Any other time, it would have been cool, but definitely not now." The next day, Pauley addressed NCIS fans and the Twitter world at large:

Pauley Perrette had a lot of defenders, who argued of course she loved her job, and why would it be a shot at Cote de Pablo? Now it looks like Cote is actually returning to the NCIS family for Season 17 after that surprise Ziva twist in the Season 16 finale.

Pauley Perrette On ... Family Feud?

This one seemed to come out of the blue last summer, but a lot of fans agreed with Pauley Perrette after she called out Family Feud for being too risqué.

Several fans agreed with her, with some saying the previous night's show was distasteful. Others argued it had always been that way, so why complain now and tag Steve Harvey?

Either way, all of this leaves me thinking Pauley Perrette should get her own talk show so she can discuss everything on a daily basis with a studio audience. Maybe she can also tweet to people from the show to keep engaging folks on social media -- after her brief Twitter break this week.

Pauley Perrette may never return to NCIS -- unless she changes her mind someday -- but the show will return to CBS this September.

The article intimates Harmon feels “the whole thing has gotten out of hand” and wants CBS to clear the situation up. The news reportedly comes from a conference call.

However, Mark Harmon has not yet given his side of the story regarding what happened between himself and Pauley Perrette. Rumors have indicated there may have been a problem after Mark Harmon brought his dog to set, yet more recently Pauley Perrette has alleged she left due to the actor and producer on the series getting physical with her during the tenure of their working relationship.

In fact, Pauley Perrette has often come out to address her issues with NCIS and now in particular Mark Harmon. A recent tweet from the actress from earlier in June stated she was terrified of the actor, alleging,

It should be noted that Pauley Perrette has previously indicated on social media that this drama was why she “lost her job.” Back when Abby Sciuto was heading off of the series, Perrette was the one who shared the news on social media, noting that she wanted to go out on her own terms. She has also had nothing but kind words to say about CBS and even signed on for a new series with the network. So, it’s interesting that she’s saying she “lost” her gig when the whole narrative around her exit was that she was leaving the show.

While CBS and Mark Harmon wished Pauley Perrette well when she exited NCIS, Perrette is the person involved in the reported incident(s) that has spoken publicly about them.

TNT may be the network that knows drama, but CBS doesn’t look like it’s too far behind.

Apparently, she is "terrified" of her longtime co-star Mark Harmon and has "nightmares" about it. Although Pauley Perrette opened up in May 2018 and stated that she'd suffered "multiple physical assaults," she never explicitly accused Harmon, and CBS' statement regarding the situation didn't mention Harmon at all. At the time of writing, CBS has not responded to Perrette's latest accusation against Harmon.

This was a big accusation to explicitly make against the star of one of the biggest shows on television, especially when it has been making all kinds of headlines for the way it tied up its latest season. A couple hours after posting her first tweet about Mark Harmon on June 7, Pauley Perrette tweeted this:

This follow-up tweet was light on details about who is pictured and what exactly happened, but bruises and stitches indicate that the injury was serious. Her previous tweet implies that Mark Harmon is the one who "physically assaulted her," and this post suggests that she lost her job for speaking up. The idea of an actress so iconic to NCIS could have been fired rather than made the decision to leave isn't easy to think about.

Will Pauley Perrette's accusation affect the future of NCIS? Only time will tell. Accusations made against former NCIS actor and current Bull star Michael Weatherly seemingly didn't result in seriously repercussions for the actor, although Eliza Dushku at least got to tell her story, and Steven Spielberg and Amblin TV pulled out of the show. CBS did reveal why Bull was renewed for Season 4 despite the issues with Michael Weatherly. Will Mark Harmon and NCIS be faced with backlash because of Perrette's accusations?

Pauley Perrette will play Jackie, with Jaime Camil of Jane the Virgin playing Jackie's brother-in-law, Miguel. Natasha Leggero, Izzy Diaz, and Antonio Corbo also star.

News of the series order (via TV Guide) comes just over two months after an order came down for a pilot. The brass at CBS must have been happy with what they saw! No details are currently available about when in the 2019-2020 TV season Broke will premiere or how many episodes are part of the initial series order, but details should be forthcoming soon as the 2018-2019 TV seeason winds down.

Pauley Perrette is of course best known for her role as Abby on NCIS, and while Abby did provide some of the lightheartedness of the series, nobody would call NCIS a comedy by any stretch of the imagination. Broke should allow Perrette to stretch her acting muscles and show even more of what she's capable of.

Given that Pauley Perrette became iconic on CBS due to her work as Abby on NCIS, there is the question of whether people will struggle to see Jackie when they look at Perrette on Broke. The good news is that Abby's look was iconic as well, and she was certainly a one-of-a-kind character. Even though few details are available about Jackie, it's probably safe to say that she's not Abby 2.0.

If Broke is a hit for Pauley Perrette, she'll be the latest in a line of actors who left long-running CBS procedurals to anchor a new CBS show. Michael Weatherly left NCIS at the end of Season 13, then returned in the fall as star of Bull, which was just renewed for a fourth season. Shemar Moore left Criminal Minds at the end of Season 11 then was back in primetime CBS the next year as star of S.W.A.T. His show was just renewed as well.

CBS could probably use another strong comedy in its lineup, all things considered. The end of The Big Bang Theory means the beginning of a new comedic era on the network, even if Young Sheldon is still going for at least another couple of seasons and another Big Bang spinoff could happen. Could Broke be the network's next sitcom hit? Only time will tell.

Since its debut in 2003, CBS’s NCIS has been a runaway hit when it comes to crime procedurals, as well as television in general. With its fortunes in the ratings game still ranking among the longest and most successful runs for a show of its type, as well as two spinoffs to its name, the franchise is only rivaled by the likes of shows like NBC’s Law & Order universe.

With such a long run comes character departures, be it through circumstances such as plotlines running their course or through disputes that sadly sour relations between cast members. The departed NCIS cast has cited quite a few different reasons for their characters quitting or being killed off the show, and the history is as interesting as the cases that Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his team of NCIS professionals have solved.

With that in mind, grab your gear and read this rundown of the major cast members who left NCIS, and the reasons why they left the team.

Why Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd) Left NCIS

Sasha Alexander’s Special Agent Caitlin Todd was a key cast member in the early days of NCIS’s climb to the top of network TV. With the entire pilot episode showing her co-operation with Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and her eventual hiring onto the NCIS team, Caitlin was there when it all started.

But after two seasons of action, and a potential flirtation with fellow agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo, Cait was killed in the line of duty by a terrorist who got the drop on her. The real life circumstances that saw Sasha Alexander leave the NCIS cast have been spoken about by herself, as well as series co-creator Donald Bellisario, and as it turns out the workload was the defining factor in Alexander’s departure.

The schedule was apparently too much for the NCIS actor to keep up with, and as a result, she asked to be written out of the show and released from her contract. Despite leaving the show so early, and under such circumstances to her character, Sasha Alexander was able to bring Caitlin Todd back in various guest spots during Seasons 8, 9, and 12 of NCIS.

Why Lauren Holly (Director Jenny Shepard) Left NCIS

Lauren Holly was one of the first change ups on the NCIS regular cast, as her character Director Jenny Shepard was brought in as the new head of NCIS in Season 3. While she started as a recurring guest, Holly eventually became a full time addition to the NCIS cast for two regular seasons, both as a professional foil and old flame to Mark Harmon’s Special Agent Gibbs.

But according to Lauren Holly herself, between becoming bored with the role of Director Shepard and a decision made by the powers that be, Jenny Shepard was killed off pretty conclusively toward the end of NCIS’s fifth season. Not only was Shepard diagnosed with a fatal illness during the course of that season’s story, but she was eventually killed in a shootout when an old mission’s failure came back to haunt her.

Though, as any good TV writer will tell you, that doesn’t stop a character like Director Jenny Shepard from cropping up in a guest appearances every now and then, which is exactly what happened in Seasons 9 and 12 of NCIS.

Why Cote de Pablo (Ziva David) Left NCIS

After the death of Caitlin Todd in the second season finale of NCIS, there was a feeling the team was missing a major component within its operations. Though her time on the show was short, Sasha Alexander's character was vital to the mix, and someone needed to fill the void. Enter Cote de Pablo's legendary Ziva David, a Mossad agent who eventually joined the team after helping hunt down Ari Haswari, the terrorist who assassinated Special Agent Todd at the end of Season 2.

Cote de Pablo left NCIS after nine seasons because she didn’t like where her character, Ziva David, was going in the show’s story. Apparently, Ziva was going back to Israel, which would lead to her becoming “an unfortunate, miserable woman.” Though Cote de Pablo didn’t totally close the door totally on returning to the NCIS cast in her departure, as she mentioned that she would never be open to returning until someone could write Ziva a story that was worthy of her character.

Surprisingly, as recent seasons have revealed, Ziva David as very much alive in the world of NCIS. So there’s always the possibility that she could come back in the flesh, provided the writing staff find a good reason, as well as the right opportunity, to bring Ziva back as the bad-ass character she’s always been known to be.

Why Michael Weatherly's Tony DiNozzo Left NCIS

One of the original NCIS agents to not only originate his character at the beginning of the show’s run, but also in the two-part backdoor pilot written into Season 8 of JAG, Anthony DiNozzo was one of the longest-remaining fixtures in the NCIS cast at the time of his departure. With a smart-assed charm, but the ability to be deadly serious when the situation called for it, Tony was a character important to the chemistry of the entire team.

Michael Weatherly personally stated that he left NCIS because he wanted to spend time with his family, as well as pursue other projects as not only an actor, but also a producer. In addition to those reasons, it felt like Tony DiNozzo’s time on NCIS was limited the moment Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David left the show, seeing as the two were so inseparable throughout the series.

After thirteen seasons as part of the NCIS cast, Michael Weatherly started a new show on CBS, Bull, which was based on Dr. Phil McGraw’s previous career as a jury consultant. As for Tony’s final fate, he’s raising his daughter from his relationship with Ziva in France.

Why Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) Left NCIS

While NCIS certainly had its fair share of cast departures, the departure of Pauley Perrette and her beloved character Abby Sciuto has to be one of the more complicated stories of the entire series’ run. Everyone's macabre, farting, hippo-loving, Caff-Pow drinking lab tech was a fixture on the show since the JAG two-parter that started it all. Surprisingly, when it came time for her character's departure from NCIS, a bit of a history started to develop.

Pauley Perrette initially stated her decision to leave NCIS after 15 seasons as lovable oddball Abby was because she felt the writing was on the wall, and that God made that path clear for her to leave. She made the announcement herself on Twitter, so it wasn’t used as a “cheap TV ploy.” Of course, that story would give way to a narrative that was a little more complicated.

Eventually it came out that “multiple physical assaults” were allegedly the driving force behind her departure. Those assaults were revealed to be alleged attacks by Mark Harmon’s dog on an unidentified crew member. After which, Harmon still brought his dog to work, which in turn led Perrette to speak out for those who felt the situation was wrong. After some time and tension, leading to Mark Harmon and Pauley Perrette filming on separate schedules, Perrette’s Abby exited NCIS at the end of Season 15, along with Duane Henry’s Clayton Reeves.

Why Jennifer Esposito (Alexandra Quinn) Left NCIS

Jennifer Esposito’s Alexandra Quinn was one of two characters created by former showrunner Gary Glasberg, joining NCIS in Season 14 to add to the ever-changing roster of personnel available to Gibbs and his team. Though just as quickly as she had joined the team, Esposito’s new character left.

Sadly, Glasberg’s untimely passing at the age of 50 left the show in a bit of a lurch. While his death would lead to another character being written out, Alexandra Quinn’s fate was always meant to be a little more short term. At least, that’s what Jennifer Esposito herself said on Twitter, in response to fans who were wondering why she had left the NCIS cast.

Apparently, Alexandra wasn’t meant to be on the show for that long, and her departure from NCIS wasn’t as surprising as it seemed. Though there’s always a chance that Alexandra Quinn could return at some point, as she merely departed the team to care for her mother, who was last mentioned as diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Why Duane Henry's Clayton Reeves Left NCIS

An agent first posted in NCIS’s more international realm, Clayton Reeves eventually found himself as part of the DC team roster from Season 13 to Season 15. A charming addition to the team, his role was sadly cut short due to unforeseen circumstances.

Played by actor Duane Henry’s NCIS character, Clayton was another whole cloth creation from previous showrunner Gary Glasberg. While Glasberg’s passing wasn’t implied as a reason for Alexandra Quinn’s departure, it was cited as the reason why NCIS soon found itself short another agent.

According to remarks made by Duane Henry, Clayton Reeves being written out of the show on Abby’s final episode, “Two Steps Back,” serve a particular purpose. Apparently, the creative team that took over NCIS after Gary Glasberg’s passing weren’t entirely sure what should be done with the character, and as a result, Clayton was killed in Season 15’s finale.

With NCIS renewed for Season 17, the crime-fighting train will keep rolling over at CBS for the foreseeable future. Which means that, without question, there will probably be some more departures on the horizon, as even the staunchest of co-stars will undoubtedly find their limits tested by the show’s interminable success.

Fans of NCIS have had to endure most of this TV season without seeing favorite Pauley Perrette, but now the actress looks to be staging a comeback at her former network. Perrette has just signed on to star in Broke!, a comedy pilot for CBS that will see her playing Jackie, a single mother who decides to let her suddenly penniless sister and brother-in-law live with her. Producer Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin) released the official logline for the sitcom, which you can read below:

As you can see from the description, Broke! will see Pauley Perrette taking on a very different role in a very different setting, but after 15 seasons playing forensic scientist Abby Sciuto on NCIS, she's probably ready to spread her acting wings a bit and show fans what else she can do. Right now, Broke! is in the early planning stages, and according to Entertainment Weekly, only Perrette and Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), who will play Jackie's brother-in-law Miguel, have been cast in the pilot. The show also doesn't have an official pickup from CBS yet, but if those behind the network like what they see in the pilot, Perrette's fans could have her back on CBS this fall.

Fans of NCIS were stunned in early October 2017 when Pauley Perrette confirmed that she was ready to leave her role on the long-running procedural. There had been rumors circulating that there was either trouble behind the scenes, with some thinking that CBS and those at the show were mad at Perrette, or that the actress wanted to leave to devote time to a skin care line she was working on. While Perrette shot down both of those rumors when she took to Twitter to let fans know she would depart NCIS at the end of Season 15, it took a few more months for her to let us in on why she finally made that move.

About a week before her final episode aired, Perrette said that "it just suddenly became blindingly apparent that now was the time," but she didn't reveal why it was the right time. After her last episode hit CBS in May 2018, though, only a few days went by before Perrette took to Twitter again, with a shocking reason for why she had to leave the series. In a set of posts, Perrette claimed that "multiple physical assaults" on the set led to her having to work in a "horrifying" environment where she no longer felt safe. Perrette also told followers that she originally kept quiet because she was trying to protect people on the show who might lose their jobs if she came forward, even though they had nothing to do with the alleged assaults.

Pauley Perrette also alleged that "a very rich, very powerful publicity machine" was releasing false stories about her to try to shut down the truth, and lobbed the most direct allegation yet by noting "he did it" in one of her tweets. While CBS responded by saying that she did, in fact, come to them with a "workplace concern" and that they took it seriously and worked with her to try to find a solution, no details about the alleged assaults, or confirmation that that was what Perrette's issue was, have ever been released.

Abby was able to leave the show with her head held high after giving fans, and other characters, quite a scare, and it's probably a good bet that Pauley Perrette is glad to have that chapter of her life and career behind her. Considering how difficult she alleged some of her time on NCIS to be, it wouldn't be surprising if Perrette decided to take a long break from acting, with her father even revealing that that was exactly what he suggested she do. But, it looks like having almost a year off was enough of a break for Perrette, and Broke! signals the first project that she's signed on for since leaving NCIS. We don't know why she was attracted to the sitcom yet, but part of it might just be the chance to do a comedy and deal with lighter fare on a weekly basis.

NCIS has been through a variety of casting changes over the years, and one of the biggest ones came last year when towards the end of Season 15, Pauley Perrette departed the series. Abby Sciuto had been part of NCIS since the beginning, so needless to say that not only did her exit impact the viewers, but also those who worked with Perrette on a daily basis. When I recently asked Timothy McGee actor Sean Murray about what it’s been like on the NCIS set since the actress left, here’s how he responded:

Sean Murray then added during our interview that he’s still very close with Pauley Perrette, so even though they’re no longer working together on NCIS, they’re still friends with one another. Murray’s response echoes what Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer, told me last year. It’s sad and bittersweet when someone you’ve worked with for a long time leaves, but that also provides the opportunity for the show to change and evolve. In this case, it resulted Diona Reasonover’s Kasie Hines, who was introduced in as a recurring character in Season 15, taking over as NCIS’ new forensics specialist. Reasonover brings her own unique energy to the show, and judging by Sean Murray’s comments, she’s doing a great job so far.

It remains to be seen if Pauley Perrette will ever reprise Abby Sciuto on NCIS, although with this season setting up the return of Cote de Pablo as Ziva David more than half a decade after she left the show, one would imagine the door is open for Perrette to pop in again too, even for just a guest appearance. That said, given the claims she’s made about why she left the series, it’s safe to say Abby visiting her old lab again probably isn’t coming anytime soon. Still, it would be nice if at least before the show concluded, McGee, Gibbs and the rest of this workplace family got to see her one last time.

In any case, like Sean Murray noted, Diona Reasonover is just one of several new characters who’ve joined NCIS’ main cast in recent years. Wilmer Valderrama has been playing Nick Torres for three seasons now, and Maria Bello came aboard as Dr. Jacqueline Sloane last season. Duane Henry also played Clayton Reeves for several seasons, but he was killed off “Two Steps Back,” the same episode that Abby left, as she wanted to start a charity in honor of Reeves and help the homeless like he did. Whether or not Abby comes back to NCIS, the current team certainly has enough to keep themselves busy with, including, most recently, a case involving McGee’s high school computer.

A few days ago we learned that actress Eliza Dushku allegedly earned a large payout after she was written off of CBS' Bull during Season 1. The actress reportedly complained about being uncomfortable on the set of the drama. Poor jokes from Michael Weatherly, including some that were sexual in nature, were allegedly the reason she cited for not liking working with the actor, but now some of Weatherly's former NCIS co-stars have come out to defend him, including Pauley Perrette.

Perrette has been somewhat open about her own experience on NCIS leading her to leave that program, and she's not a person who is afraid to share her opinions on topics. She's also a person who has defended CBS in the past. This time, she says in her post she's known her co-star for two decades and should be able to attest to how he handles himself in the workplace.

Michael Weatherly also found another supporter in former co-star Sasha Alexander, who is also an NCIS veteran. She said:

Eliza Dushku was in three episodes of Bull during the early part of its run. The goal was to bring her on board as a strong lead and romantic interest of Michael Weatherly's Bull, but Dushku alleges the idea fizzled when she brought to attention jokes she thought were problematic. An earlier report mentions she was offended when Weatherly said things like, "Here comes legs" as well as making "rape van" jokes.

Reports allege that Michael Weatherly and Eliza Dushku talked after the jokes. She says he didn't really take her seriously and was afraid she would get fired. It, in fact, became clear soon after that that she was being fired and Bull went in a different direction during Season 2.

CBS has been dealing with various issues regarding sexual misconduct and harassment since allegations came out about former CBS Chairman Les Moonves several months ago.

Michael Weatherly has publicly apologized for the comments made on set, noting:

Eliza Dushku allegedly nabbed a payout for what happened and Bull has continued filming Season 3. However, the allegations are still out there, and it seems that Michael Weatherly's former co-stars want to attest that they did feel comfortable around the actor on set.

NCIS added a fresh face as a full-time member of the team for Season 16 with Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines. She made her debut in Season 15 as Ducky's new graduate assistant, and she was brought on board for Season 16 after Pauley Perrette made her departure as Abby. Perrette was a key part of NCIS for the entire run of the series up until her final episode in Season 15, and Reasonover was stepping into some big shoes -- or platform boots, in Abby's case -- to take over Perrette. In a recent chat with CinemaBlend about NCIS Season 16, Reasonover revealed this about advice she received from Perrette:

Diona Reasonover was joining an established cast on a show that had already been running for a decade and a half, and taking over for an actress who had been on board NCIS from the very beginning was a significant task for the newcomer. Fortunately, Reasonover made a positive impression on viewers in her first appearances helping out Ducky, and Pauley Perrette shared some very touching words of encouragement. While leaving the show was undoubtedly emotional for Perrette, she was able to give some wonderful advice to the actress who would be filling Abby's role in the new season.

As Kasie Hines, Diona Reasonover is required to deliver humor and scientific jargon while fitting into the ensemble of a drama series. Pauley Perrette confirmed to Reasonover that she is "enough" to deliver what it takes for a smooth transition, and Reasonover appreciated the kind words. Only one episode of Season 16 has aired at this point, but it's already clear that Kasie will be an ideal replacement for Abby. Abby was such a popular character for so many years that it was possible any character who stepped into her position wouldn't fit right off that bat; that's not the case with Kasie and Reasonover.

Given that Abby wasn't killed off when she was written out, perhaps Pauley Perrette could drop by as a guest star and we could see her on screen with Diona Reasonover! Just because NCIS is returning to a focus on the core four definitely doesn't mean we can't cross our fingers for some fun down in the lab. When I asked what kind of pressure she felt when she joined the series as a regular and a character who would fill Abby's position, Reasonover had this to say:

The transition that could have been very difficult for everybody went down without the newcomer feeling a great deal of pressure from the cast, crew, or even the fanbase, which is fiercely loyal after the better part of two decades following NCIS. Diona Reasonover did tease that some characters will struggle with Kasie replacing Abby in their own ways, so NCIS will clearly address the change rather than just going on as if Abby had never been around. Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer on NCIS, also spoke with CinemaBlend recently, and he only had good things to say about Reasonover's addition to the cast, simply stating that changing "the ingredients" of a show will inevitably result in "the whole thing" changing.

It should be fun to see how the show does and does not do things differently as NCIS Season 16 continues this fall. New episodes air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. NCIS: New Orleans airs new episodes on the same nights, with NCIS: Los Angeles premiering fresh episodes on Sunday nights.

NCIS fans watched the show undergo a major change in the final episodes of Season 15 with the departure of Pauley Perrette as Abby Sciuto. Perrette was part of NCIS going all the way back to the backdoor pilot on JAG, and she's appeared on spinoffs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans. The good news for fans was that Abby wasn't killed off or shipped off into witness protection and given her permanent walking papers like a certain Criminal Minds star was, and the door is open for Perrette to reprise the role. Still, losing her was rough on the cast as well as fans. NCIS actor Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer on the long-running drama, spoke to CinemaBlend's own Adam Holmes about NCIS without Perrette, saying this:

While Brian Dietzen was saddened by the fact that his friend wouldn't be around set anymore after a decade and a half working together, his comments make it clear that he's not in the least upset about Pauley Perrette's decision to move on from NCIS. In fact, he's looking forward to what's in store next for her, and he's likely not the only one. Viewers who grew to love Perrette as Abby for all those years may want to follow the next stage of her career as well. Everybody should be happy to know that Dietzen speaks so fondly and highly of Perrette, as this can only bode well for Abby to potentially drop by for a visit sometime in the future. NCIS is still going strong and showing no signs of stopping.

For the time being, however, Pauley Perrette may be content to take a break from acting. Her claims of multiple physical assaults shortly after her final episode of NCIS aired sound like they weren't easy on her, and she won a legal battle with her ex-husband back in May. Her dad even floated the idea that she could take a breather from showbiz and just continue enjoying life in good health with her dogs at her side. After more than 15 years of work in an intense franchise, who can argue that Perrette doesn't deserve to take as much time to watch Family Feud (and call it out for being filthy) as she wants? She worked hard for a long time.

A big question is what NCIS will look like in Season 16 without Pauley Perrette around full time. She shared a fair amount of scenes with Brian Dietzen as their characters worked out the science and forensics of the NCIS cases that came their way. Despite the fact that she got as happy an ending as possible after her intense final episode, there may be some lingering sadness at the gap in the ensemble. After losing Michael Weatherly (although he didn't go far) and now Pauley Perrette, NCIS will look very different moving forward than in years past. We can only hope that Mark Harmon isn't planning on going anywhere!

As one of the most popular game shows on TV, both via syndication and with its celebrity-filled primetime version, Family Feud obviously gets a lot of things right, from its endless questions for source material to the always watchable Steve Harvey as host. But some viewers would probably agree that Family Feud has gotten increasingly un-family-friendly with an abundance of sex-related content. And former NCIS star Pauley Perrette has become one of the first big celebs to publicly call the game show out for it.

In that tweet, as well as in the one below, Pauley Perrette makes it abundantly clear that she's befuddled when considering why Family Feud has made its questions and answers so adult-themed. One can argue that the show has always had its fair share of sexually charged rounds, but the Steve Harvey era has ramped things up to the next level. Especially when it comes to the random (and innocently gross) euphemisms used as stand-ins for sexual acts and genitalia.

Granted, judging whether the show is too over-the-top or not all depends on one's sense of humor, and many millions of people are tuning in on a weekly basis, so there are obviously interested parties making time to watch. But Pauley Perrette, who'd previously been in a troubled marriage in which she was allegedly sexually abused, wishes that Family Feud would hinge more of its questions of other areas of the human condition.

As intelligent as she is, Pauley Perrette would be a great candidate for Celebrity Family Feud, especially if they could work some other former NCIS stars into that "family" grouping. (Not that anyone would complain about her bringing her actual family members onto the show.) But Steve Harvey and the writers would definitely need to tone things down when it comes to risqué questions, since Perrette likely wouldn't get invested otherwise.

Pauley Perrette got a lot of vocal support on Twitter for her views, with many agreeing that Family Feud has gone far and beyond the more wholesome humor it used to showcase. Not that this is a brand new criticism for Family Feud to have picked up, as seen by the tweet below.

Having left NCIS Season 15 in a way that kept Abby Sciuto alive and well, Pauley Perrette was reportedly taking a break from acting for a while, with her CBS exit reportedly caused by multiple physical assaults happening behind the scenes. According to TV Line, word came down today that Diona Reasonover would be taking on a permanent role on NCIS in Season 16. As you can see from the above photo, Reasonover is no stranger to the NCIS shores. The actress played forensic scientist Kasie Hines in three episodes of the procedural near the end of last season, sharing the screen with Perrette's Abby in one of those episodes. Kasie was introduced to the NCIS team as Ducky's new graduate assistant whom he hired, in part, to help keep him on track with the writing of his next book.

Diona Reasonover is a relative newcomer to the world of television. After making her debut in a video short in 2011, though, she's managed to amass 25 credits for a variety of TV shows, made-for-tv movies and additional shorts. Reasonover has appeared in Superstore, Clipped, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Girl Meets World, 2 Broke Girls, Future Man and Grace and Frankie among other projects. She's also a writer who's penned episodes for I Love Dick and Adam Ruins Everything, in addition to to other shows.

It's certainly early days right now, so it's hard to tell just how big of a part Diona Reasonover's Kasie will end up becoming on NCIS over the course of Season 16. So far, what we've seen of the character has shown her as positive, hard working and quite a fan of the hard work the NCIS team has done, and she manages to be nice while also being forthcoming with the truth. It's likely that we'll see those traits on display quite a bit as the new season gets underway. And, since Kasie is still a team newbie, I wouldn't be surprised if there will be some tough learning curves ahead for her.

If the folks behind NCIS are smart, though (and you don't get a show to Season 16 without being smart), they'll take it slow with bringing Kasie fully into the fold, especially since her character has inherited a spot in the lab from fan favorite Abby. Perrette's departure came as a huge shock to many; hers was an original character that, I'm sure, most fans expected to stick around for several more seasons. And, while Abby did not have the distinction of being written off with her own heart-wrenching death (that honor went to another character), the circumstances surrounding Perrette's exit likely mean that there's little hope of fans seeing the goth scientist again. In other words, it's going to take some time for people to get used to multiple extended appearances from someone new in a lab coat. But, I'm sure Kasie will be accepted by the fandom, and the on-screen NCIS team, in time.

Pauley Perrette's final episode on NCIS aired earlier this month. Since leaving the show, the actress has alleged on Twitter that she was the victim of "multiple physical assaults." For fans wondering how Perrette is doing in the wake of everything, her dad has offered some insight. Paul Perrette has revealed that the actress has not signed on for any new acting roles, since leaving the crime procedural, and he also shared:

Pauley Perrette starred in the popular role of Abby Sciuto for fifteen years. A decade and a half is a long time for any actor to be working, let alone in the same role.

The actress wrapped up her run on NCIS with a farewell episode that saw Abby survive a near-fatal shooting, while fellow character Clayton died protecting her. After surviving, Abby helps bring the culprit to justice before leaving the team. Thankfully, NCIS left the door open in case the actress ever decides she wants to reprise the role. Fans had been bracing themselves for the actress and Abby to leave the show for a while.

Pauley Perrette announced she was leaving NCIS in October 2017 and filmed her final episode this past April. When the time came for viewers to say goodbye, they tuned into the show in mass, with nearly 15 million watching Perrette's farewell episode. One of television's most popular actors, Perrette's exit has to have incited interest from other shows and networks. As a show starring Perrette front and center would undeniably be met with much-deserved fanfare. For now, it sounds like the actress is taking some time to relax and rejuvenate.

A 15-year run on a TV series can take it out of you. If Pauley Perrette ever returns to television, she will undoubtedly be met with an enthusiastic response. It would be interesting to see Perrette take on a role that is radically different from Abby. Instead of making another long-term commitment, she could star in a miniseries that would allow her a chance to take on a new character. Most actors work their entire lives to have a role as beloved as Abby, so whatever Perrette decides, she will always have her.

Former NCIS actress Pauley Perrette made waves recently after making some startling claims on Twitter that she ended up leaving the series due to alleged multiple physical assaults, and now CBS has released a statement regarding Perrette's tweets. In an official statement, the network appeared to acknowledge some of what Perrette tweeted, and said the actress had come to them regarding an incident while she was still on the series:

CBS offered no details of what Pauley Perrette approached them about, nor did they confirm her claims that the complaint was in any way tied to her claims of physical assault. Perrette had said in her tweets she decided to break her silence in order to combat a "very rich and powerful publicity machine," as well as tabloid articles she alleged were spreading falsehoods about her time on the show. Perrette offered few details about the alleged incident in her initial batch of tweets but mentioned a fear that speaking out would negatively hurt her chances of future jobs, her crew, and others close to her.

CBS' statement (via Deadline) did little to flesh out the incident that may have happened on the set of NCIS, but Pauley Perrette appeared to appreciate the network's statement all the same. Perrette tweeted out her thanks to the network, presumably for publicly acknowledging her tweets and mentioning the incident which she had referenced:

Pauley Perrette's tweet would appear to indicate that whatever incident she came to CBS with a year ago will remain a secret for now. While these two events may or may not be connected, it's worth mentioning that this would not be the first time recently that Perrette has gone on the offensive with regards to her decision to leave NCIS. Perrette tweeted back in October that any articles reporting she was exiting the show to start her own skincare line were false, and that she had other reasons for leaving. It seems as though the reasons she was alluding to then would be the same incident she tweeted about, which might explain her anger with the reports mixing up the message surrounding her departure. Weeks prior to this tweet, Perrette made a statement saying it was made "blindingly apparent," that it was time for her to leave NCIS, which also could've been a hint that there was a larger story to be told.
