There are some stars you know are just going to crush it when it comes to the red carpet. For example, Janelle Monáe is a work of art in her ensembles, and Florence Pugh’s outfits as well have become must-see fashion moments — particularly when it comes to the see-through trend. Rachel Zegler is also known to sport some memorable looks, and her latest dress — a black semi-sheer netted number that she wore to the People’s Choice Awards — may be her most divine look yet.

The star of the upcoming live-action Snow White remake drew a lot of attention at the February 18 awards show — and not just because she beat out Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves for Action Movie Star of the Year. Rachel Zegler was stunning in a netted sheer look by Dior Haute Couture, which you can see below: 

You simply can’t go wrong in classic black, and Rachel Zegler was the definition of elegance in the gown whose silk tassels and delicate beading gave the top a netted look. The skirt flared out in the shape of a bell, providing slightly more coverage to the overall classy take on see-through. Her simple black heels and wavy hair styled in a side-part completed the look.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star got to show off the dress on stage, too, as the actress won the People’s Choice Award for her performance in the Suzanne Collins adaptation. After accepting the trophy, she wrote on X (Twitter): 

Her People’s Choice look wasn’t the actress’ first venture into the Christian Dior world of black sheer. Ahead of The Hunger Games prequel, Rachel Zegler channeled Katniss Everdeen in a gothic see-through number — which was just one of her several dresses inspired by Jennifer Lawrence’s character.

Black seems to be a go-to option for the style icon, as she adorned a bedazzled LBD to celebrate The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ box office success, but that’s certainly not the only trick she's got up her sleeve. The actress proved she can master old Hollywood glam, showing up to the 2023 Academy Museum Gala in a gold strapless gown that fit like a glove.

These stunning appearances make me excited to see what she’s going to do next, and hopefully we won’t have to wait too long, since the actress has a few coals in the fire. Most notably fans are looking forward to seeing her as the titular Disney princess in the Snow White adaptation, despite there being some nervousness (even from Zegler) about the CGI used in the film.

Khloé Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner family have spent the past two decades living their lives in front of the cameras, meaning we’ve seen a lot of the good, bad and ugly that has befallen her. Khloé has been through a couple of high-profile breakups in that time, spoken openly about her struggles with surrogacy and endured nonstop comments about her weight. Her vulnerability in those situations is likely why fans are so endeared to her, and after winning yet another People’s Choice Award, she had the best response for a fan who questioned some of her life choices.

The Kardashian sister proved why she’s the Reality TV Star of the Year for the sixth time by responding to a large number of comments on her Instagram post following the ceremony (which she reportedly had to miss due to a migraine). In most of her interactions, Khloé thanked her fans, sending them love and black heart emojis; however, a few times her replies took unexpected turns, veering away from her reality TV popularity, including this exchange with a fan:

The fan gave no indication which specific “choices” they disagreed with, but in true Khloé Kardashian fashion, she laughed it off and agreed that she hasn’t always been perfect. Kim Kardashian’s younger sister has been the subject of a lot of criticism for taking Tristan Thompson back after his cheating scandals, which came years after her ex-husband Lamar Odom had also betrayed his wife many times during their marriage. 

Fans with a Hulu subscription even saw Khloé’s last breakup with Tristan Thompson play out on The Kardashians, when it came out that he’d fathered a child with another woman just as they learned that they had conceived a baby of their own.

Luckily there didn’t seem to be too many comments focusing on the negative, but one fan was quick to point out that Khloé’s signature long nails were absent in her video, which garnered a response from the reality queen:

One guy was even brave enough to shoot his shot with The Kardashians star, which got a good-natured chuckle in return:

Too bad that fan didn’t specify which of Khloé’s four sisters they considered “kind of cringe,” but I have to imagine the Good American boss was amused nonetheless. And good for her for not taking the bait!

Season 5 of The Kardashians is expected to hit the 2024 TV schedule sometime this spring, although no date has yet been announced. In the meantime you can catch up on the first four seasons or see what else is new and coming soon to Hulu. 

NBC pulled out all the stops to bid Blake Shelton farewell on the Season 23 finale of The Voice earlier this year. The fan-favorite coach became the final member of the show’s original panel to walk away following 12 years in the Big Red Chair. It turns out that goodbye was more of a see you later, as the country star will return to the network to be a part of the inaugural People's Choice Country Awards. There’s a sweet reason behind Shelton’s appearance, too, as he’ll be presenting one of the night’s biggest honors.

Blake Shelton will present the first Country Music Icon award to Toby Keith, when the first ever People’s Choice Country Awards air live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 28. The former coach of The Voice is “eager,” per NBC, to pay tribute to the fellow country music legend from Oklahoma. The presentation will apparently be one of the most exciting of the show, as Cassandra Tryon of NBCUniversal said: 

That’s certainly a meaningful reason to return to the network where Blake Shelton spent over a decade of his life. This isn’t the first time he’s stepped up for his friend Toby Keith, either. Last November the “Come Back as a Country Boy” artist filled in for Keith as the headliner of the Veteran’s Day concert “A Salute to Our Heroes,” when Keith was forced to pull out as he continued to recover from stomach cancer.

The “Red Solo Cup” singer revealed last year that he’d been diagnosed with cancer in Fall 2021, and spent much of the next six months receiving chemotherapy, radiation and undergoing surgery. Blake Shelton made a lot of sense as his replacement at the Veteran's Day event, given the artists’ shared connection to the military. Shelton’s father served in the honor guard in Korea following the Korean War, and his brother served in the Army, while Toby Keith’s father also served in the Army.

It also seems fitting that NBC was able to call on Blake Shelton to help them honor the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” artist, and it’ll be fun to see him again, even if it’s not as a coach on The Voice. The singing competition may have lost its resident cowboy, but the country music genre is still very well-represented, with Reba McEntire replacing Shelton for Season 24, which premieres September 25. Country duo Dan + Shay, as well, will make history as the first coaching duo in Season 25 next spring.

Ryan Reynolds has had a long and wildly successful career, starting as an actor and growing into an accomplished producer and businessman. He’s also gone viral countless times over the last few years, thanks to his biting wit and hilarious give and take with wife Blake Lively. That was definitely the case at this year’s People’s Choice Awards, where he won an Award and also got hilariously called out by Shania Twain. Reynolds recently responded to Twain’s lyrics change, and how it helps him in a really “embarrassing” moment.

The Ryan Reynolds/ Shania Twain moment came as she was in the middle of her set at the People’s Choice Awards. When performing her hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, she swapped Brad Pitt’s anime with Reynolds, who was in the audience. On top of being a thoroughly adorable moment, it turns out that the Deadpool icon might have actually needed the laugh at that moment. As he shared in an interview with Greg Chomut Arts:

I guess we can’t really blame him there. Part of why Ryan Reynolds is such a fan favorite actor is because he seemingly doesn’t take himself too seriously. That perspective also likely contributes to him feeling nervous when going up and accepting an award like the People’s Icon. But luckily Shania Twain decided to call him out mid-performance, and at the perfect time.

Shania Twain has also had a long career as a musician, with her generations of fans out there thrilled to see some of her greatest hits during her People’s Choice performance. Ryan Reynolds’ face when she called him out in “That Don’t Impress Me Much” quickly started circulating around online. And the 46 year-old actor explained what he was feeling in that moment, saying:

Canadians are known for being polite and kind, so this serendipitous moment between Ryan Reynolds and Shania Twain seems right. While some other folks might be embarrassed to be called out in such a very public way, that’s exactly what Reynolds needed to relax before eventually giving his acceptance speech for People’s Icon. Smart money says he’ll never hear that Shania track again after that interaction.

Ryan Reynolds certainly has a lot to celebrate, as he and Blake Lively are expecting their fourth child. He’s also got a number of successful business ventures, and his continued work in film. Fans are especially eager to see him back on the big screen in Deadpool 3, opposite Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds isn’t just a movie star. According to the People’s Choice Awards he is, in fact, an icon. The Deadpool star, who will return to that role in the recently announced Deadpool 3, received the Icon Award at this year’s ceremony. And while the spotlight was on him, he made sure to direct attention at others, celebrating the people that have helped him along the way, especially his family, including wife Blake Lively. 

When Ryan Reynolds took the stage to accept his Icon Award from his Free Guy co-star Lil Rel Howery he also took the opportunity to thank his family, and he thanked all of them. Ryan Reynolds is the guy who’s known for always having a joke ready, whether it’s for the movie he’s starring in or the commercial he’s producing, but he’s also a guy who can be incredibly sincere when the moment calls for it. While the award he received was all about himself and his fame, he used it to thank his family and to promote two organizations he’s involved in that aim to diversify the entertainment and marketing industries. This year alone, Kim Kardashian has been spotted in some truly striking attire, and I’m not just talking about her typical bikini photos. Back in July, she sported a red bodysuit to one of Kanye West’s Donda listening parties and a wedding dress at another. This year’s Met Gala saw her don another black jumpsuit, which was more reminiscent of Batman than his feline-inspired lover. And ahead of Halloween, Kardashian donned a ninja-esque outfit, complete with a mask. While the star’s outfits have been turning heads, she’s also been making headlines in other ways. 

Since October, the SKIMS founder has been romantically linked to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson, though the two have yet to officially confirm it themselves. That hasn’t stopped them from hanging out and even taking selfies with tourists. Most of the public seems to be both delighted and intrigued by the alleged couple. However, based on what’s been heard from Kanye West, he may not be keen on someone else spending time with his lady. 

The music and fashion mogul recently claimed that there are people in his wife’s ear who are telling her to leave him while also saying that he hasn’t seen any divorce paper He’s also opened up about what he perceives to be his past mistakes, such as his alcoholism and his ill-fated run for president. A friend also claims that the rapper has a “holy trinity” of reasons for why he and his spouse shouldn’t split up. Though he’s seemingly holding nothing back, his spouse doesn’t seem phased. According to reports, there’s no chance of a reconciliation, and she apparently takes issue with the fact that he still refers to her as his “wife.”

But if anything, Kim Kardashian’s recent speech exemplifies the respect she still has for her significant other. Kanye West hasn’t publicly acknowledged her comments, as of this writing, but there’s a chance he may have been, at the very least, pleased to receive the shout-out.

Chris Pratt’s one of the busiest actors in Hollywood and 2021 was no exception. While Pratt has an impressive list of upcoming movies hitting the schedule over the next couple of years, 2021 saw Amazon’s The Tomorrow War become a success on the subscription streaming service. This is to the point where the movie has already been greenlighted for a sequel and is now gaining some awards consideration ahead of the People’s Choice Awards. Pratt himself has seemed excited about the developments, sharing funny takes about his competitors, including The Rock, Eddie Murphy and more. 

Chris Pratt’s Message To The Fans About The Tomorrow War’s People’s Choice Nominations

Of course, Chris Pratt is very excited about his People’s Choice Awards nominations. While his movies haven’t tended to be Oscar fare, he is a movie man of the people and he’s been nominated for and has sometimes won People’s Choice Awards, Kids Choice Awards and more in the past. He took to Instagram this week to share a message for his fans about his nominations: 

That’s a nice message, right? And he continued to be nice as he asked fans to vote for him and The Tomorrow War, but if not him and The Tomorrow War to choose Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu in the category of Male Movie Star of 2021. 

Along with Simu Liu, Chris Pratt also gave a gentle nod to his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 co-star Vin Diesel, saying he could be a prime choice to vote for (after Pratt, of course) for his work in F9. 

And actually, Chris Pratt kept the joke rolling when it came to his Amazon competitor Eddie Murphy, who has been nominated for this year’s Coming 2 America.

But as much as a nice guy as Chris Pratt can be (despite his occasional worst Chris status) he also is willing to throw a little shade into the mix occasionally. Dwayne Johnson also got a lot of nominations this year… maybe too many, if you were to ask Pratt. 

And does Ryan Reynolds really need more nominations? Really?

In his Instagram Stories post, Chris Pratt also threw out polite nods to John Cena and 007 actor Daniel Craig, who were nominated for F9 and No Time To Die in the Male Movie Star category, respectively, as well. Another day, another meme. If you somehow missed David Spade licking his lips during Netflix star Noah Centineo’s big People’s Choice Award win, it’s OK. Because today Spade addressed the meme and now we know what was going on during the moment the cameras caught the comedian.

During a recent episode of David Spade’s Comedy Central show Lights Out with David Spade, the actor and host addressed what happened during the awards ceremony head on.

So, that’s the real explanation from David Spade. However, Lights Out also takes it a step further with a bunch of jokes regarding Adam Sandler, and some cuts of David Spade the show allegedly didn’t use. It’s an amusing bit if you’ve caught the meme that went ‘round the Internet yesterday. Take a look.

Meanwhile, it’s actually pretty interesting to hear this reaction from David Spade was a total accident. Clearly, that was always a possibility, but as our own esteemed Adrienne Jones pointed out yesterday, it was only one of several possibilities, the others being Spade was trying to be funny and, finally, that Spade has a thing for Noah Centineo, who, let’s be honest, makes lots of people swoon. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing David Spade has ever been involved with, that's for sure.

And because a viral reaction this good can’t die out yet, I’m going to just go ahead and include it below. If you haven't given it a watch, yet, it's definitely a classic awards moment, right up there with Jennifer Lawrence tripping at the Oscars. Alright, alright, maybe not quite that iconic.

Some days the Internet may suck out your soul, but other days it gives you glorious David Spade moments to ponder over and laugh at. Intentional or not (he says not), the footage is everywhere right now, and I’m really glad he addressed it on his show and cleared up the matter for fans and casual People's Choice Awards watchers alike.

Now, I just wonder how Noah Centineo feels about the whole thing…

Well, if you weren't aware, last night saw the reveal of this year's People's Choice Award winners, and, as one might expect, there were a lot of surprises, touching moments and laughs to be had from the ceremony. But, there is one instance in particular which has captured the hearts and minds of award show viewers everywhere. The internet's current favorite boyfriend, Noah Centineo, won an award last night for his work in the Netflix film The Perfect Date. While everyone loves to ogle them some Centineo, it turns out he may have gotten some unexpected attention from another star in attendance.

Now, we know how these awards shows work, right? Noah Centineo was announced as the winner and as he made his way slowly to the stage (due to an injured knee) we were shown different members of the audience applauding the hot young rom-com superstar's win. Well, just take a look at what happened when an unsuspecting cameraperson gave us a shot of comedian / actor / talk show host David Spade:

Oh, my, Mr. Spade! We didn't know you had it in you! In case you couldn't see the clip clearly, David Spade was caught, as Noah Centineo walked to the stage with the help of presenter Sarah Hyland, licking his lips with an intensity normally reserved for, well, movies that come on streaming services. Bow Chicka Wow Wow!

So, this has led to some big questions from many fans who watched the show. Namely, what exactly the hell is David Spade doing? As I see it there are only three real potential answers, so let's run down each of them. First, isn't it possible that Spade had no idea what was going on and didn't even realize someone was accepting an award right then? I mean, who among us hasn't spaced out during an awards ceremony? Those things are looooong, friends. He could have just had...dry lips and no lip balm. We've all been there!

Secondly, let's remember that David Spade is a comedian. This is the man who helped keep Saturday Night Live relevant in the early 1990s, and went on to star in Tommy Boy, The Emperor's New Groove, Just Shoot Me, 8 Simple Rules, The Benchwarmers and Grown Ups, among other big and small screen comedies. This is Joe Dirt, people! Can we really put it past him to see a camera and respond with something funny, no matter how odd and out of left field it seems?

Third, and, of course, most importantly, we have the option that everyone is hoping for (as noted in the above tweet). It's not impossible that David Spade has the hots for Noah Centineo. Honestly, just look at the guy. He was partially broken when he accepted his People's Choice Award, not wearing anything fancy, and his full head of beautiful, man-curls were shaved down to military standards, yet he's still an adorable dream-scenario hottie.

And, not only did Noah Centineo continue to fuel fantasies with his award show look, he also seemed so surprised and humble, admitted he was nervous about being in front of so many people and said really nice things about helping others. It's all enough to make me...uh, us stay at home and binge The Perfect Date and To All the Boys I've Loved Before five more times. But only five more times, because we keep saying we're going to cook dinner on Wednesday and we're really going to do that this week, dammit.

It's not impossible that David Spade was thinking the same thing in that moment at all. Noah Centineo is about to be He-Man, after all. Who can resist the beauty and magnetism that's capable of that when it's right in front of them? This thirst might just be real, friends.

On September 1, comedy star Kevin Hart was caught in a car accident that resulted in him suffering major back injuries. Fortunately, Hart has been on the mend since then, and last night he made his first public appearance since the accident at the E! People’s Choice Awards and was treated to a standing ovation. Take a look!

Okay, it’s important to clarify that the reason for the applause is twofold; in addition to this being Kevin Hart’s return to the public stage (figuratively and literally) since being badly hurt, he also won Comedy Act of 2019 for his Irresponsible standup tour. After walking out on stage to Kanye West’s “Stronger” and accepting the award, Hart acknowledged how he didn’t have to be at the People’s Choice Awards, but being there, he appreciated life even more, not to mention the other things that “truly matter,” like his family.

Kevin Hart also thanked both the People’s Choice Award for giving him this honor and the people themselves, as their energy and support means a lot to him, especially as he still recovers from the car crash. Hart capped off his speech by saying that this award, and all the other ones he’s received, are special and he doesn’t take them for granted, and then he bid adieu to everyone watching both at the event and watching from afar.

Although Kevin Hart had previously posted on social media about his accident and the aftermath, seeing him in front of cameras certainly reaffirms that his recovery is going well, even if he isn’t at 100% just yet. It was previously reported that Hart had aimed to take part in a marketing campaign for his next movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, following the accident, and if he was able to also appear at the People’s Choice Awards, then perhaps we’ll be seeing more of him as The Next Level starts making the press rounds.

Kevin Hart was sitting in the passenger seat of his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when the driver lost control on September 1 at around 12:45 a.m. Hart reportedly fractured his spine in three places and required him to undergo surgery. He left the hospital after 10 days and immediately began physical therapy, and clearly it’s been paying off.

He’s also received a lot of support and love over the last two months, including from a few of his Jumanji costars. Nick Jonas recently mentioned how he’s relieved to hear that Kevin Hart’s doing okay, and shortly after Hart was admitted to the hospital, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson cut short his honeymoon so he could appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show in Hart’s place, though that didn’t stop him from poking fun at his frequent collaborator.

Obviously due to the injuries he sustained and needing the proper amount of time to heal, some of Kevin Hart’s projects needed to be put on hold, but going off his People’s Choice Award appearance, it seems like he’s on the road to a full recovery. Rest assured, we’ll keep you updated on more news concerning Hart and what he plans to tackle next once he decides he’s ready to work again.

The line between actor Ryan Reynolds and Wade Wilson seems to blur every day, especially with a visit to the actor's hilarious Twitter. On his account, which is often full of meta deadpan tweets, no jokes are off limits. This even includes the occasional quip toward his young children, as he channels his superhero counterpart all the time with unfiltered jokes and pop culture references. Reynolds also enjoys a good fake Twitter feud. And although he had a lot to celebrate since Deadpool 2 scored a bunch of People's Choice Awards nominations, it didn't stop him from having a little fun with it. His latest target being a fuzzy, clumsy little bear named Paddington, who didn't take the shots Reynolds fired sitting down. Check out the exchange:

Yikes! Those are some serious fighting words Ryan Reynolds hurled toward a beloved children's character. However, Paddington seems like he can hold his own with his virtual stare down in response. After all, the bear has been known to foil a few villains in his day-- played by the likes of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. Deadpool 2 nabbed four People's Choice nominations including Movie of 2018, Action Movie of 2018, with Reynolds receiving Male Movie Star and Action Movie Star accolades for his role as the Merc with a Mouth. And although Paddington 2 only was recognized for Family Movie of 2018, Reynolds seemed a little offended that his film wasn't among the list of family-friendly films full of timeless kids stories such as Peter Rabbit, Christopher Robin and Pixar blockbuster Incredibles 2.

In the sequel, Deadpool 2 was branded by Wade Wilson himself as one for the family. But between the grimy mouths of its characters and limb slicing, this must have gotten lost in translation for People's Choice nominators. With 2016's Deadpool, which was released close to Valentine's Day, it was marketed as a love story and between all the violence and superhero antics. And although Deadpool 2 wasn't necessarily a family fare, it did have Wilson protecting a young boy from Cable and assembling an unlikely team to help him.

Ryan Reynolds and Paddington both did the near impossible this year, as Deadpool 2 satisfied fans earlier this summer with a sequel and the adorable bear warmed hearts earlier this year with Paddington 2. Sequels don't always garner the same reactions as the original, but both films saw their characters coming back with installments that gave the original a run for their money. Both franchises have potentials for longevity and more entries, if given the chance. Friends or rivals, you can vote for their films on E! Online. The network will be taking over the People's Choice Awards, previously on CBS on November 11.

As 2015 gives way to 2016, several guilds and various critics’ groups are falling over themselves to reward the best films of the previous year at high-caliber events. Well, last night, the people spoke, and they decided to throw their collective weight behind the seventh chapter of a high-octane franchise, naming Justin Lin’s Furious 7 as their Favorite Movie of 2015.

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson’s hugely successful sequel faced off against fellow blockbuster tentpoles Avengers: Age of Ultron, Inside Out, Jurassic World and the ladies of Pitch Perfect 2 and the People’s Choice Awards. The film also took home the award for Favorite Action Movie. The rest of the trophies were spread out among fan-favorite celebrities like Channing Tatum (Magic Mike XXL) and Sandra Bullock – though I wonder how many People’s Choice voters bothered to see Our Brand is Crisis last year?

Last night the 2015 People’s Choice Awards took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and winners for all types of fan-favorite entertainment were announced from Movie, TV, and Music categories. There were a few surprising and unexpected choices within the Movie categories of winners, but possibly most surprising of all was the biggest award of the night, Favorite Movie. The public's votes were counted, and the Best Movie (as deemed by the people who vote on PeoplesChoice.com) went to Maleficent.

I bet you weren’t expecting Maleficent—I sure wasn’t. The film also won Favorite Family Movie at the People’s Choice Awards. But despite the mixed reviews from critics, the film had huge commercial success, and it was the only non-superhero movie to cross a $600 million gross internationally this past year. Whether it be the power of the Disney brand, or the star power of Angelina Jolie, people not only went to the theaters to see it, but they also loved the film, according to the People’s Choice Awards.

In case you are unfamiliar, the way that the People’s Choice Awards works is that each year a voting platform is hosted on PeoplesChoice.com. On that site, the public determines categories, nominees and winners for the award show. According to ComingSoon.net, every year, potential nominees are determined by a number of factors including the national ratings averages, music sales, box office grosses, and the PeoplesChoice.com data, followed up by vetting through EPoll Market research. It is the only major awards show entirely voted for fan favorites by the public. And it is an interesting view into what exactly drives the box office, because when it comes to the more critically-acclaimed movies we’ll see in upcoming awards shows like the Golden Globes, they don’t come close to the kind of international gross that films like Maleficent do.

Some of the other fan favorites this year, and winners of the People’s Choice Awards included Robert Downey Jr., who was graced with two awards, Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor. Then of course, Jennifer Lawrence who took home Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Action Movie Actress. Favorite Movie Duo went to Shailene Woodley and Theo James from Divergent, which also won Favorite Action Movie. Chris Evans was deemed the People’s Favorite Action Movie Actor (because everyone loves Captain America). The Favorite Comedic Movie went to 22 Jump Street, the Favorite Comedic Actor was Adam Sandler and Favorite Comedic Actress to Melissa McCarthy. Then the People voted Chloë Grace Moretz as their Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress and The Fault in Our Stars was Favorite Dramatic Movie (of course). And last, but certainly not least, the Favorite Thriller Movie went to Gone Girl.

The movie choices correlate pretty well with box office grosses, and what is deemed popular by the public is not always highly rated by the critics. For those of us who want to see where more critically-acclaimed movies such as Selma and Whiplash fall in line, we’ll have to wait till this Sunday, January 11th at the Golden Globes ceremony.

The People’s Choice Awards: is there anything as pointless? There are already too many awards shows as is. Audiences already announce their "People’s Choice" of the year when they vote with their dollars, allowing films to be revealed as the highest grossing pictures of the year, or for shows to become The Most Watched Show Of The Week, which, considering the bulk of television, is like winning a shortest giraffe contest. No one cares except the money men, so I guess it’s nice that all these celebrities can get together and celebrate how much cash they've bringing down.

Regardless, The People’s Choice Awards were held last night and it was announced that the Favorite Movie of the year was Shane Black'sIron Man 3 - which actually is about to be lapped by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as 2013's biggest film. Apparently The Hunger Games was released after the cutoff date for this celebration of avarice, which means we were robbed the sight of Jennifer Lawrence making another awkward award speech. Instead, we got the likes of Robert Downey Jr., who won Best Action Movie Actor clowning around and reminding the audience that no one thinks he’s as great as he does.

Favorite Movie Actor was, weirdly enough, Johnny Depp. Depp appeared in one movie last year, and it was The Lone Ranger. That’s called the power of goodwill, and it lasts a helluva long time, apparently. Sandra Bullock, who did double duty in megahits Gravity and The Heat, won Favorite Movie Actress, Favorite Dramatic Actress and Favorite Comedic Actress (weren’t the last two just kind of assumed?), with the latter movie winning Favorite Comedic Movie. Favorite Comedic Actor went to Adam Sandler for the hate-crime that was Grown Ups 2, and Leonardo DiCaprio won Favorite Dramatic Actor despite a nomination going to Ryan Gosling, clearly robbed for Only God Forgives.

Carrie ended up as the unlikely winner of Favorite Horror Movie, despite being it being the lowest-grossing film in a category that also included The Conjuring, Insidious Chapter Two (how upset do you think James Wan is?), Mama and the truly terrifying Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters. Favorite Family Movie was Despicable Me 2 and Favorite Thriller Movie (?) was Now You See Me (with Red 2 and A Good Day To Die Hard splitting the Indifferent Bruce Willis vote).

Really the show's most interesting point of of conversation surrounds the nominees that were selected in the first place. If the cutoff was the late months of the year, keeping megahits like The Hunger Games and Frozen out, then where were last year’s late-arriving hits like Django Unchained and Les Miserables? Shouldn’t Jessica Chastain have been America’s Choice for Best Everything Female for leading the mission that popped Osama Bin Laden? The comedy category, like the others, is filled with the highest-grossing pictures in that genre, but instead of Identity Thief, how did the Spanish-language Instructions Not Included make the final ballot instead? Award results are determined by Gallup Polls, so what does that say about, say, Man Of Steel, the year’s fifth highest grossing film, which couldn’t grab a single nomination in any category? The people have spoken, or judging by the list of winners among the TV categories of the 2012 People’s Choice Awards, the young people have spoken, with Pretty Little Liars, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries among the series that went home with awards last night.

The 2012 People’s Choice Awards aired on CBS last night, combining TV, Movies and Music in one big event where the people have the final say. You can check out the list of Movie-related Winners here. In the meantime, among the TV winners, in addition to the ones I mentioned above, were Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres, who took home the Late Night and Daytime Talk Show Host awards, respectively. Meanwhile, reflecting the higher than average ratings, CBS’ Person of Interest and 2 Broke Girls won for Best New Drama and New Comedy, while Pretty Little Liars topped Game of Thrones, Dexter and a few others in the Best Cable Drama series.
