The royal romance and bitter divorce between Princess Diana and Prince Charles (now, King Charles III) is a saga known around the world, and one that has been told countless times. But did you know that at one point, Ryan Murphy was going to turn the story into a season of his Feud anthology series? I, for one, didn’t know until recently, when I was watching Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which just wrapped up on the 2026 TV schedule.

Well, it turns out Murphy came very close to tackling the drama a couple of years before The Crown turned its attention to one of the biggest stories of the late-20th century. Though those plans never materialized, I think the prolific TV executive producer should make a second attempt at telling the story again, this time as another installment in his latest, much-talked-about FX series.

What Was Ryan Murphy’s First Attempt To Tell Diana’s Story, And What Happened?

Nearly a decade ago, back in February 2017, Deadline reported that Ryan Murphy was planning for the second season of his Feud anthology to put its spotlight on the fairy tale love story of Princess Diana and Prince Charles and the bitter divorce that rocked the monarchy, a nation, and the world several decades earlier. The series, which would have begun with the Prince and Princess of Wales filing for divorce and ended with Diana’s shocking and tragic death in August 1997, was getting a lot of attention and momentum back then. However, much like the romance it aimed to chronicle, the season fell apart.

In August 2018, The Hollywood Reporter published a story where FX CEO John Landgraf said, “it’s not active right now,” signaling the project was no longer happening. At the time, Rosamund Pike and Matthew Goode were rumored to be taking on Diana and Charles, respectively, but the material wasn’t there, as Landgraf told THR.

The Diana and Charles season never recovered from there, and the Feud franchise sat on ice for several years before returning with Capote vs. The Swans, an exploration of Truman Capote’s falling out with a group of socialites in the 1960s.

The ‘Love Story’ Setup Is The Perfect Way To Chronicle The Royal Romance And Falling Out

With Ryan Murphy returning to the world of celebrity romances gone awry, on top of his ongoing Monster series streaming with a Netflix subscription, now seems like a perfect time for him to revisit the story and give the project a second chance at life. Well, at least as a part of the Love Story franchise. I mean, even though The Crown went into great detail (and spent parts of three seasons recounting the iconic love affair), using the model established by Love Story with one season and one season only, it could be a fulfilling and engaging spectacle to take in.

Much like American Crime Story, which has told everything from the O.J. Simpson trial to the murder of Giavanni Versace to the Bill Clinton Sex Scandal, the first season of Love Story spent fewer than 10 episodes telling the full, albeit abridged, saga of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s romance and eventual deaths.

By having eight hours to tell Diana and Charles’ story, it would give us a more streamlined story that is also long enough not to feel like the major points are skipped. You get the courtship, the wedding, the alleged infidelities, the divorce, and Diana’s tragic death.

The First Season Of Love Story Touched On The Princess Of Wales’ Death In An Impactful Way

I am not saying that I think each season of Love Story should be interconnected or anything like that, but the first season of the series already touched on the death of Princess Diana in a touching and meaningful way.

In the penultimate episode, as JFK Jr. and Carolyn are having a heated argument about the latter’s reluctance to leave their Soho loft due to constantly being hounded by paparazzi invading her privacy, the discussion is interrupted by a phone call to turn on the news. Moments later, the couple watches in horror as scenes from the tragic accident unfold before them. This scene, which feels like it was included to represent what Carolyn was going through at the time, since both she and Diana were targets of the press, also leads to one of the best sequences of the entire season.

JFK Jr. running through the streets of NYC and Carolyn watching in anguish as she learns a woman in a similar situation, as well as someone she looks up to, has died, all set to Radiohead’s “Exit Music (for a Film)” is nothing short of masterful. It not only gave us another great music moment from the stellar Love Story soundtrack but also a brilliant moment that ties the show’s themes together.

It’s A Delicate Topic, But It Could Work With Some Care

Undoubtedly, a season of Love Story about Princess Diana, her ill-fated relationship with Prince Charles, and her tragic death would be a very delicate topic that would have to be handled with the utmost care. That said, the dynamic surrounding JFK Jr., Carolyn Bessette, and the Kennedy family’s place in American history/society was handled decently, for the most part. Sure, the Daryl Hannah situation in the first half of the season wasn’t handled all too well (the actress ended up penning a scathing op-ed about her portrayal), but maybe that could be a lesson for future installments.

This could be a chance to get the story right and pay homage to one of the most transformative figures of the 20th century while also giving audiences engaging, must-see TV. With a good balance of reality and creative license, this could be done really well and with a great deal of respect.

It still hasn’t been announced if FX is going to come out with more seasons of Love Story, but I’ll be shocked if they don’t. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, the first season is streaming in its entirety with a Hulu subscription.

Kim Kardashian has often honored celebrity fashion icons in her own actions and outfits choices, whether that’s donning Marilyn Monroe’s dress for the Met Gala or appearing on the Hulu docuseries In Vogue: The 90s (a 2024 TV schedule entry) honoring Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Now it’s Princess Diana who’s getting a shoutout from the reality star fashionista, as Kardashian paired a low-cut white gown with a large cross necklace for a charity event in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

We’re not talking any old cross necklace either. Kim Kardashian showed off the iconic Attallah Cross pendant that Princess Di famously wore back in the 1980s. The American Horror Story: Delicate star reportedly purchased the piece in a 2023 auction at Sotheby's for a whopping $200,000 but had never before worn the necklace in public.

Kim Kardashian, who attended the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala on November 2, paired the jewelry with a floor-length white gown featuring a plunging neckline, adding an ivory jacket that she wore off of her bare shoulders.The amethyst cross was held by a pearl necklace alongside another pearl necklace and choker, nodding at how Princess Diana styled the necklace for the Birthright charity gala in 1987, which you can see below:

William and Harry’s mother was simply a work of art, pairing the statement piece with her regal purple velvet Catherine Walker gown.

The Attallah Cross was crafted in the 1920s by the jeweler Garrard. It comprises several large, square-cut amethysts surrounded by 5.25 carats of circular-cut diamonds. While Diana never owned the necklace, she borrowed it from Naim Attallah on several occasions, and apparently no one else had ever been seen wearing it until now.

I love that both the late Princess Di and Kim Kardashian wore the Attallah Cross at a charity event and did so in a way that reflected the fashion trends of their respective eras. While both looks incorporated pearls, Diana’s necklace was long, evoking ‘80s fashion icons like Madonna.

This is certainly another notch in Kim Kardashian’s cap as far as celebrity memorabilia. In addition to borrowing (and possibly damaging?) Marilyn Monroe’s dress from Ripley’s Believe It or Not for the 2022 Met Gala, the SKIMS boss has also procured items including Elizabeth Taylor’s jade and diamond bracelets and Jackie Kennedy’s Cartier watch.

She also gifted brother Rob Kardashian some rings that formerly belonged to Elvis Presley, and her oldest child North West has the actual hat and jacket worn by Michael Jackson in the “Smooth Criminal” music video.

While The Kardashians star certainly seems to have a thing for acquiring one-of-a-kind fashion items, she also seems pretty strategic in how she chooses to show them off. One has to wonder if and when we’ll see the Attallah Cross again, or what the next big celebrity item will be.

In the meantime, we’re also still waiting for the next season of The Kardashians to premiere. While the series (available to stream with a Hulu subscription) has been renewed for at least 20 more episodes, with no premiere date, it looks like Season 6 might be hitting the small screen next year.

Princess Diana was beloved all over the world ahead of the 1997 car wreck that killed her. The tragedy of a life ending too soon, the royal family losing such a prominent member, and young William and Harry being left without their mother was a lot to bear, so it’s no wonder people would rather remember Princess Di as the smiling, charismatic beauty who cared about others. But that’s not the whole truth, at least according to British fashion designer Dame Zandra Rhodes. She painted a sadder picture of the Princess of Wales, saying she got a “raw deal” because she did not feel loved.

Zandra Rhodes first met Diana in 1981, and they worked together several times over the years, with Rhodes even submitting a sketch to be considered for the design of Diana’s royal wedding dress. She spoke candidly about the Princess of Wales, who died at age 36, saying that Di’s contentious marriage to Charles left her life incomplete, despite her royal status. The pink-haired designer told the Daily Mail: 

Princess Di married Charles — who was crowned King Charles III last May — in 1981, but it allegedly wasn’t long before their marriage was on the rocks. According to Sally Bedell Smith’s biography of Charles, his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles began in 1986, and after years of rumors, Diana and Charles separated in 1992. They officially divorced in August 1996, a year before she would be killed in Paris. 

In working with the Princess of Wales, Zandra Rhodes described visiting the palace with dresses for the fashion icon, curtsying as she bumped into children’s toys. While Diana was undoubtedly kept busy with her royal duties and princes Harry and William, Rhodes alleges it wasn’t a happy life. She said:

Dame Zandra Rhodes apparently has Diana to thank for getting her name out there in the fashion world and cementing her place among Britain’s most esteemed designers. Amongst the outfits she designed for the princess was a pink dress that she wore on an official visit to Japan in 1986. 

While fashion was a big part of Princess Diana’s life — even Kate Middleton has paid tribute to her by wearing her iconic jewelry — that’s obviously not what her sons think of when they remember their mother. Prince William, who was 15 when she died, reflected on everything Diana has missed and said he wishes she could have met her grandchildren. He also said he would have loved to be able to go to her for advice, and I’m sure that’s never been more true than now, as he supports his wife through a cancer battle.

Prince Harry, meanwhile, was allegedly scarred by what he saw his mom go through, and sources say that may have been a big part of his reasoning for stepping away from the royal family. The younger prince, who was 12 when Diana was killed in the wreck, remains at odds with his father and brother, though he has reportedly reached out to both, with Charles also battling cancer. Insiders have even alleged that Harry and wife Meghan Markle might be looking for a permanent residence in the UK.

We’ll have to see how things play out between the members of the royal family, because if Diana was truly lacking happiness and love in her life, she would certainly want better for her sons.

The royal family has been dealing with a lot this year, with King Charles III announcing his cancer diagnosis in February and Kate Middleton revealing just months later that she, too, was undergoing treatment for cancer. Despite the circumstances, there seems to be no real sign of a truce between Prince Harry and his estranged family members. An insider weighed in on the ongoing saga, and they think what Harry saw his mother Princess Diana go through has a lot to do with his exit from the royal family.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle famously stepped away from their royal duties in 2020, relocating to Los Angeles. Harry allegedly not only thinks his mother would approve of this move, but according to a source for OK! magazine, what happened to Princess Di was a big reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to do it. The insider said: 

If Prince Harry does, in fact, believe that moving to the United States might help Meghan Markle avoid what his mother endured — including but not limited to her 1997 death at the age of 36 — one can see why he might be willing to go to extreme lengths to do so, like being estranged from his family. As far as what Princess Diana would think of the move, Harry’s brother Prince William reportedly has a different line of thinking. The source continued: 

Prince Harry did return to London to visit with his father following the king’s cancer diagnosis, though he refused to divulge any details of the meeting. While that’s a move in the right direction of reconciliation, there doesn’t seem to be much evidence that the ice is thawing between the brothers, despite reports that Harry and Meghan reached out to Kate when she was in the hospital in January.

It’s apparently a tough time of year for the brothers, too, the insider said, as Princess Diana’s birthday approaches on July 1. According to the source:

It is, indeed, heartbreaking to think of all the things Diana has missed since the tragic car wreck that took her life in August 1997, especially in how it reportedly continues to affect her sons. 

We’ll have to see if current circumstances are doing anything to heal the damage caused from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocating to America, as well as everything Harry said in his memoir Spare and the docuseries Harry & Meghan, which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription. 

Princess Diana's famous fashion sense has already been well on display in shows like The Crown and films like Spencer. That said, in case you need further proof that she was a style icon for the ages, a recent high-priced auction of one of the royal's signature dresses should do the trick. 

On Sunday, December 17, Princess Diana's ballerina-length evening dress by fashion designer Jacques Azagury—which the royal famously wore in Florence, Italy in April 1985 and again to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 1986—sold for a record $1,148,080. 

Would the People's Princess have been pleased about the sale of one of her signature looks? The designer says yes because "fashion was a big part of her life." He tells People: 

The winning bid on the Azagury gown—which features a black velvet bodice embroidered with metallic stars and a royal-blue organza skirt—was eleven times the frock's original estimate of $100,000. The sale also beat out the previous world record for the most expensive dress worn by Princess Di to be auctioned: a purple evening dress by designer Victor Edelstein that sold for $604,800. The Moroccan-British designer recounted how he remembers Princess Diana seeing the dress at his second "New Romantics" collection in London all those years ago:

When she later visited him at his studio, Princess Diana immediately chose the black-and-blue dress, says Azagury, not caring that it was off the runway and wasn't a custom piece. 

Hearing that the creation sold for such a hefty sum at auction nearly four decades later, the designer said he was "really excited and quite emotional." As he put it:

He likened the dress to "an important piece of art" that spoke both of the time period and of its most famous wearer: 

It's not the first time that Princess Diana's gowns raked in big bucks at auction. The blue-velvet gown that the royal famously wore while dancing with Grease star John Travolta reportedly swept up $362,470 back in 2013. Given how important the Princess of Wales' fashions were to her fame, it's not a shock that attention to detail where hair and costuming are concerned has always been a priority in on-screen depictions of the royal. 

The Kristen Stewart-led movie Spencer worked hard to get the accuracy of Diana's looks right, from the royal's feathery blonde hairdo to her hulking engagement ring. Much was also made about recent seasons of The Crown, in which Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki portrayed the princess and stepped out in several notable Lady Di fits, including the much-publicized "Revenge Dress" that the royal wore upon her split from Prince Charles. 

But seeing as how Princess Diana's styles are still so heavily valued by the adoring public—and auction audiences, it seems—those attentive efforts are well worth it!

Rob McElhenney has been married to his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Kaitlin Olson for 15 years, so the amount of comedic talent in their household is just unfair. But Olson really pulled one over on her husband when it came to their shared love for the Philadelphia Eagles, as she not only secretly outbid him in an auction for an autographed Eagles jacket, she absolutely roasted him over it in front of Jason and Travis Kelce.

The jacket in question was a Philadelphia Eagles letterman jacket autographed by Jason Kelce’s wife Kylie, and was the same style as the one Princess Diana famously wore back in the ‘90s. Proceeds from the auction were to benefit the Philadelphia Eagles Autism Foundation, and Rob McElhenney was all too happy to offer $10,000 for such a good cause. But then someone bid $20,000, so he raised his price, and a bidding war ensued. He explained the situation to the Kelce brothers in a clip from the New Heights podcast, saying: 

Rob McElhenney recalled being confused about being outbid, so he set his final bid at $62,000 in honor of Jason Kelce’s jersey number. That’s when he apparently got a text from his wife, who had seen his generous offer going viral on social media. The Welcome to Wrexham star continued: 

Travis and Jason Kelce were thoroughly shocked and excited when Kaitlin Olson entered the chat, shouting their praise for how she pulled off the “inside job.” The actress, aka Sweet Dee from one of the funniest shows on Hulu right now, then proceeded to jokingly roast Rob McElhenney for having no idea it was her the whole time. Olson said: 

Rob McElhenney admitted it really didn’t make any sense for the jacket to go from Princess Di to Kylie Kelce to “a dude,” and he and Kaitlin Olson decided to make it a nice round $100,000 to secure the jacket for the Hacks actress. Olson concluded:

It’s always exciting when celebrities let their fans in on the news that they are expecting a baby. This year we’ve already seen a couple of celebrity pregnancy announcements that were nothing short of epic — Rihanna used the Super Bowl halftime show to debut her bump for god’s sake — so here we’ll look back at a few of the best.

There is simply no bigger stage than the Super Bowl, and Rihanna took full advantage of her moment as the headliner of the Super Bowl LVII halftime show. Just nine months after welcoming her first child with A$AP Rocky, the “Umbrella” singer kicked off her performance by debuting the bump that was Baby No. 2. The Internet went wild, as Rihanna belted “Bitch Better Have My Money” from a platform suspended high above the football field. I don’t know how many more ways there are to say “iconic.” 

Kourtney Kardashian’s Blink 182 Concert Reveal 

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker were open with fans about their desire to start a family, and their struggle with infertility, including unsuccessful IVF attempts, was documented on The Kardashians. The Poosh founder didn’t need to go the extra mile to make her pregnancy announcement a huge celebratory deal — but she did anyway. 

During one of Barker’s concerts with Blink 182, Kardashian held up a sign that read, “Travis I’m Pregnant,” stopping the show long enough for the drummer to go into the audience to kiss his wife. The sign was a throwback to the band’s 1999 music video for “All the Small Things,” which was the perfect way to let the world in on their good news.

Anything can happen on live TV, and those who tuned in to Saturday Night Live on December 22, 2022, were treated to a surprise pregnancy reveal during Keke Palmer’s monologue. The Nope star appeared in a buttoned-up, floor-length coat and said she wanted to take the opportunity to address certain rumors. In her words: 

The actress whipped open her jacket to reveal her bump, gushing over the fact that, “I’m gonna be a mom!” Two months after her big SNL moment, Keke Palmer gave birth to Leodis Andrellton Jackson, her first child with Darius Jackson, her partner of two years. 

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Honor Princess Diana With Valentine’s Day Reveal 

Valentine’s Day is a day for love, so the occasion was definitely appropriate for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to announce that they were expecting their second child back in 2021. However, going public on that day had special meaning for the Duke of Sussex. On February 14, 1984 — 37 years to the day of Harry and Meghan’s announcement — Princess Diana and now-King Charles III revealed that they were expecting their own second child (who, of course, was Harry).  

It wasn’t just the pregnancy announcement that honored Harry’s late mother. When Harry and Meghan’s daughter was born that June, they named her Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. 

Tan France Does It For The Dads

Who says moms should get to have all the fun? Queer Eye’s Tan France announced that he and husband Rob were expecting their first child via surrogate in a genius Instagram photo. The fashion guru cradled his “bump,” a.k.a. sonogram photo, as he said this was something the couple had been wanting for many years: 

The way he so modestly covers his bare chest is everything! Their son was born in July 2021, and two years later, in May of 2023, Tan and Rob France announced that they had welcomed a second baby boy, who “completes our little family perfectly,” Tan said. 

Kel Mitchell Celebrates His Wife’s Bun In The Oven 

Look, if you’re known for playing an employee at a fast food burger restaurant, you simply cannot pass up the opportunity for a good “bun in the oven” joke. Kel Mitchell of Good Burger fame and his wife, Asia Lee, fully understood the assignment when they announced that they were expecting their first baby (Mitchell’s third) back in 2017: 

Those of us who grew up in the ‘90s can fully appreciate the references to Kel Mitchell’s famous All That sketch with Kenan Thompson. Good Burger 2 is expected to hit Paramount+ later this year, but it didn’t take that long for Mitchell and Lee to make their own sequel, welcoming their second baby together in 2020. 

Alanis Morissette Creates A Music Video To Announce Baby No. 2 

In many of these classic pregnancy announcements, the celebrities lean into what they are known for, or they use their creative talents in the best way. The artist certainly came out in Alanis Morissette with how she revealed she was expecting her second child with Mario "Souleye" Treadway. Using a song she'd recorded ahead of their son's birth in 2010, the "Ironic" singer surprised her husband with a music video that ended with their family of three looking at sonogram photos:

It's so heart-warming to see the joy that goes into couples' pregnancy announcements, be it on live TV, social media, or elsewhere. It's such a treat for their fans, too, to be allowed into such a big moment for these celebrities and their families. The above reveals are some of the most epic announcements in recent years, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry find themselves at the center of a controversy stemming from a situation that occurred over a week ago. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Markle’s mother, were pursued by photographers during what’s been described as a “near catastrophic” chase. All three were riding in the back of a taxi at the time, and a rep for the couple suggested that the chase went on for hours. In the aftermath, some have questioned the severity of the incident, which prompted authorities to get involved. Amid the continued discussion, a bodyguard of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, shared some honest thoughts on paparazzi. 

Lee Sansum knows quite a bit about dealing with photogs, considering that he once provided security for one of the most high-profile individuals on the planet. He provided services for the Princess of Wales and her two sons during the summer of 1997 ahead of her tragic death in August of that year. The late royal was killed in a car crash while being pursued by shutterbugs, which makes her son’s recent incident somewhat surreal. When asked about the conflicting reports on the Duke and Duchess’ chase, Sansum surmised that the public isn’t getting a complete picture of what happened: 

The guard certainly didn’t mince words while discussing the situation with Fox News. Something he seems to take issue with is the paparazzi’s apparent desire to obtain a “money shot.” In Lee Sansum’s estimation, this shouldn’t put the celebrities involved and bystanders in danger. He also pointed to Princess Diana’s death as a “classic example” of what happens when such an ordeal goes wrong. Sansum went on to say even more about the potential hazards that come with photographer tactics:

These comments line up with the ones that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rep shared after the crash. It’s certainly reasonable to say that one’s safety should never be compromised in pursuit of a video or photo. Though many are still seeking out answers in regard to the recent vehicle pursuit that occurred in New York. The cab driver has since weighed in on the subject and said that he wouldn’t “call it a chase,” adding that he “never felt like [he] was in danger.” Amid the conflicting reports, Harry and Meghan have also denied that they exaggerated the chase.

All the while, the famous pair also sought to obtain the car chase footage and were ultimately unsuccessful. On top of that, a photography agency sent them a searing message pertaining to the United States and the crown.

We’ll just have to wait and see how this matter as a whole continues to develop for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. In the meantime, it wouldn’t be too shocking if other former employees for the British Royal Family weigh in like Princess Diana’s former bodyguard has.

Prince Harry’s memoir Spare was full of allegations and revelations that shocked the world about him, his family and those who surrounded him. From stories about his frostbitten penis to claims that Prince William and Kate Middleton were involved in him wearing a Nazi costume to a party, there have been some wild stories to come out of the book. And while the prince thought the palace would undermine his Spare efforts, they didn’t, for the most part. This is because now, Princess Diana’s former butler is speaking out about his thoughts on the Duke of Sussex's book and being referred to as "the butler."

Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, recently spoke out about his feelings reading Spare and it sounds like he  was among those who said they felt hurt by Prince Harry’s memoir. He explained that something had “annoyed” him “intensely” about the book, telling Marie Claire that Harry should have known better. 

The former footman worked for Queen Elizabeth before working with Princess Diana for a decade, until she died in 1997. Burrell continued, explaining that while working for the family, the Duke of Sussex had never referred to him as his butler, and he didn’t understand the sudden shift. He said:

The books Burrell refers to are 2000’s A Royal Duty -- which is his own memoir -- and 2006’s The Way We Were: Remembering Diana, a book he wrote based on his experiences working with the Royal Family. 

Earlier this month, the former staff member also spoke out against the book, making it clear while talking to Express that he was he does not like who Prince Harry has become. He explained: 

It’s clear Burrell was not impressed by the prince and Spare overall and was flustered by Prince Harry not referring to him by name. 

Also, following the release of Harry & Meghan (which can be watched with a Netflix subscription) and Prince Harry’s 60 Minutes interview, along with other major appearances on United States-based talk shows he’s revealed a lot that has seemingly had a negative impact on Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Royal Family. 

As of right now, no one from the Royal Family has commented on the book, however, Paul Burrell made it clear that as a former employee of the palace, he’s not OK with Spare. 

We’re still days away from the release of Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare, but already there are plenty of bombshells being dropped in pre-released excerpts. The autobiographical work comes on the heels of the Duke of Sussex’s six-episode Netflix docuseries with wife Meghan Markle, Harry & Meghan. Despite its popularity on the streaming service, the controversial doc has received some brutal feedback from fans, and Markle’s half-sister called it a “series of lies.” Judging by the snippets from Spare, however, the criticism doesn’t appear to have deterred the royal couple from telling their side of the story. 

Let’s take a look at some of the wildest revelations and accusations made by Prince Harry in Spare ahead of its January 10 release.

The Title Spare Is A Reference To A Hurtful Joke King Charles III Allegedly Made

Look no further than the title of the tell-all for the beginning of Prince Harry’s big reveals. Spare is apparently a reference to a cruel joke his father is said to have made after learning Princess Diana had given birth to a second son. According to the memoir (via The Guardian), King Charles III said: 

That theme of being treated like the “spare” apparently runs throughout the book, and it’s not the only accusation Prince Harry made about the king. 

Harry’s Father Also Made ‘Sadistic’ Jokes About Not Being The Prince’s Real Dad 

If there is any hope of reconciliation between the Duke of Sussex and his father, the two will have quite a bit to overcome, as Prince Harry revealed another joke King Charles III made during his childhood, regarding public speculation about Harry's biological father. He wrote (via Page Six): 

Prince Harry also reportedly pointed out in the book that his mother and Major James Hewitt didn’t meet until after he was born. 

Harry And William Urged Their Father Not To Marry Camilla 

There was also some tension between Charles and his sons regarding his decision to marry Camilla, “[d]espite Willy and me urging him not to,” Prince Harry wrote (via Page Six). He and William were apparently concerned for different reasons, however, as Harry wrote: 

Along with King Charles III, Prince Harry’s older brother appears to also be the subject of several stories in Spare. 

Prince William And Kate Middleton ‘Howled’ With Laughter Over Harry’s Nazi Costume 

Prince Harry came under fire in 2005 for wearing a Nazi costume to a Native and Colonial party, and while he has expressed his regret numerous times over the years, he reveals in Spare (per Page Six) that Prince William and Kate Middleton encouraged him to wear that costume instead of going as a pilot. He wrote: 

In the docuseries Harry & Meghan, the Duke of Sussex said he was “ashamed” that he wore that costume, calling it “one of the biggest mistakes” of his life.  

William ‘Attacked’ Harry, Knocking Him Down In Argument About Meghan Markle 

One of the wilder accusations regarding Prince William in the memoir details an argument the brothers apparently had in 2019, during which William allegedly called Meghan Markle “difficult,” “rude” and “abrasive,” according to The Guardian. Prince Harry shared that he gave his brother a glass of water and said he couldn’t talk to him when he was like this. The excerpt continues: 

Harry apparently didn’t tell Meghan Markle at first that his brother had “attacked” him, but after she saw “scrapes and bruises,” he came clean. The Duke of Sussex apparently said she “wasn’t that surprised.” 

Prince Harry Rode Through The Paris Tunnel Where His Mother Died 

Harry said in an attempt to find closure over his mother Princess Diana’s 1997 death, he asked his driver in 2007 to drive at 65 mph through the tunnel in Paris where she had died, just as her driver had. He recalled (via People): 

He apparently didn’t get the closure he sought, calling the experiment “a very bad idea.” 

Harry Had Regrets About Googling Meghan Markle’s Sex Scenes From Suits 

That apparently wasn’t the only bad idea Prince Harry wrote about in Spare, as he also admitted to indulging his curiosity over his wife’s love scenes in the series Suits. Meghan Markle portrayed Rachel Zane for seven seasons on the USA drama, and the Duke of Sussex said he needed “electric-shock therapy” after watching her get steamy with Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross. Prince Harry said (via Page Six): 

In promotion of Spare’s January 10 release, Prince Harry will give his first interview of the year on CBS’ 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 8, before his GMA interview with Michael Strahan airs on ABC Monday morning, January 9. In the meantime, Harry & Meghan is available for streaming with a Netflix subscription. 

Much like Prince Harry and Meghan Markel’s revealing interview with Oprah, the couple's new Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan on the 2022 TV schedule is dropping a lot of new information about the royal couple and everything they’ve gone through. The first three episodes dropped this morning, and people were quick to pick up on the use of a controversial interview of Harry’s mother Princess Diana, which is an interview the BBC said it would never license again. 

The trailers for Harry and Meghan use old footage to present an argument about how terribly they’ve been treated by the press. In the trailers alone we learned about the threats the couple faced before they left the UK. Now that the first three episodes are out we are learning even more about the couple’s journey from dating, to a royal engagement, to them eventually stepping away from their royal duties and moving to the United States, and how they were treated in the eyes of the press. The Duke of Sussex also talks about how his mother was treated by the media, which is how we come to this BBC clip. 

Before the clip is played during the first episode of Harry & Meghan, Prince Harry said: 

Harry’s remarks appear to contradict the narrative the royals have created around this interview. Prince William has said previously (via Deadline) that the BBC interview of his mother “holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again.” 

In the Panorama interview from November 20, 1995, Princess Diana talked about how the media treated her, and in the Netflix docuseries they used a clip from it where she said: 

According to Deadline, this interview became notorious for Diana saying “there were three of us in the marriage,” in reference to now-King Charles, and his relationship with now-Queen Consort Camilla Parker-Bowles. This part of the interview is not shown in the documentary. 

Following the clip of his mother in the Netflix series, Harry said:

This interview of Princess Diana is controversial, and Martin Bashir, the BBC reporter conducting the interview, is now disgraced. According to the article, this interview from 1995 generated headlines recently when it was portrayed on The Crown. Diana’s brother Earl Charles Spencer asked for a review of the BBC and how Bashir was able to get the interview. 

What came to light was Bashir had used fake bank notes to get Diana’s trust, and in a report from Lord Dyson the BBC was condemned for “woeful incompetence.” This led to the resignation of Director General Tony Hall, who was the head of news at the time of the interview, from his role as Chairman of the National Gallery. After this report was published the BBC donated about $1.8 million to charities linked to the princess, they also said the company would never license the interview again according to the Deadline. 

The article notes that it’s unclear if Netflix obtained the rights to the Panorama clip for Harry & Meghan before the BBC said they wouldn’t license the interview anymore. 

Harry & Meghan is already generating a lot of coverage. For those with a Netflix subscription, the first three episodes are available now and the next three will be released on December 15. 

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has spent a lot of her time as part of the Royal family attending to engagements with her husband Prince William. While she’s shown her own grace and fashion sense on the world stage, the Duchess of Cambridge has also paid homage to Princess Diana over the years. This was true once more during her recent trip to the U.S. with husband Prince William, in which she showed off a choker her husband’s mother had worn.

Prince William and Kate were in the States, specifically Boston, this week. The two attended a slew of events on their Boston tour, including meeting up with Mayor Wu, attending a Celtics game and visiting Harvard University.  Among these events was the Earthshot Prize Awards, in which Princess Kate wore a green dress (she’d rented, per Page Six) and a green choker that had been loaned to Diana by Queen Elizabeth II. 

The look was a reminder of a green choker on green dress look Princess Diana had herself worn with the notable piece of jewelry. Although, it’s perhaps not as notable as the time the late Princess wore the green sparkler as a headband rather than a choker. 

As for the Solace London look Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wore, the exact silhouette may be elusive, but the green color is a popular one for the brand. Contemporary (and slightly more approachable) looks in the color can be found at places like Revolve and at Net-a-Porter, which does still offer an off-the-shoulder glam dress.) I particularly like this one in the vivid “bright green” shade.

Meanwhile, this isn't the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has paid tribute to Princess Diana. She also tends to wear the sapphire engagement ring that used to belong to Diana and has worn other infamous jewelry in the past. In addition, the couple's child Charlotte also has Diana in her name: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The young princess was also christened in the same church in Sandringham her grandmother was, St Mary Magdalene Church.

Prince William has reflected on the past about how much Princess Diana has missed over the years, but he and the family do a good job of reflecting back to her and remembering her over time, including on this latest trip. 

Interestingly, Prince William and his wife's big adventure has come at a time when the spotlight is also being shone on his younger brother Prince Harry in the U.S. For months as part of their Netflix deal Harry and Meghan had allegedly been working on a documentary from their own mouths. There had been some drama attached to the Netflix docuseries before the Harry & Meghan trailer's release, but it's coming soon.  

Between that and the recent release of The Crown Season 5 there's been plenty on the Royal Family to come out way in recent weeks, but this Princess Diana tribute certainly, well, takes the crown...

Kristen Stewart’s latest movie has the actress disappearing into the role of Princess Diana. Spencer, directed by Jackie filmmaker Pablo Larraín, serves as a portrait of what the late royal was going through just prior to her decision to divorce the Prince of Wales in the early ‘90s. As the movie continues to ride the wave of Oscar season, Stewart and Larraín are speaking more in depth about filming the critically-acclaimed drama. 

While chatting with Deadline about Spencer, the director and Kristen Stewart agreed that they can’t get one subtle sequence in the movie out of their heads. In their words: 

In a lot of ways, Spencer acts as a kind of poem for emulating the experience of being Princess Diana, especially in that particular moment in her life. While there are moments one could take more literally, both Pablo Larraín and Kristen Stewart think of this particular sequence as an indirect question being asked about the trajectory in which Princess Diana’s life goes. 

Obviously the late Princess of Wales became a major figure when she married Charles, but when she dealt with mental health issues such as an eating disorder and depression, the reaction by the crown was unhelpful and asked her to put on a big happy face. 

In another sequence, her experience is personified through Kristen Stewart’s Diana nervously eating her soup even though her appetite is nonexistent. The scene turns into Diana swallowing pearls from her necklace that fall into the soup. Feeling suffocated by the expectations of the crown, Diana nervously rushes to the bathroom where she has to purge what she’s just eaten. While I don’t imagine Diana ate any pearls at the dinner table, the sequence is the perfect personification of how uncomfortable the princess may have felt at the time. 

Many audiences have compared Spencer to a horror movie, especially in the way that it cinematically plays as viewers go on the anxious journey with Kristen Stewart’s Princess Diana. Kristen Stewart jumped at the opportunity to play the role and completely committed to portraying the late royal. While filming Spencer, Stewart recalled having “spooky, spiritual feelings” because the subject matter felt invasive at times as she sought to bring to light another side of a figure explored in other ways on film.

Pablo Larraín’s Spencer is a bold film from almost every angle. It takes a popular figure in history and tells a fictionalized account of one of the most important moments in her life. When Princess Diana left the crown by divorcing Prince Charles, it was a controversial decision, and as the movie illustrates, it may have been absolutely necessary to her survival and mental health. But we’re here to talk about perhaps the happiest moment in the film: the first time we hear Kristen Stewart’s Diana laugh in Spencer. 

Late in the film, Diana is overjoyed when her royal dresser from the beginning of the film, Sally Hawkins’ Maggie, comes back to be by her side after she was previously replaced during the holidays. As the pair sit together on the beach, Maggie declares that she’s actually in love with Diana (yes, in that way). It causes an eruption of laughter from Diana, who seems nervous, but not unafraid to the idea. 

Spencer ultimately ends with Diana taking her two young children William and Harry in her car to KFC and dining by the London Bridge without Maggie. But many of us may have found ourselves rooting for the possibility of Diana and the mysterious royal dresser running away together. When Bustle asked K-Stew about it, she said this: 

Kristen Stewart said she totally ships the two movie characters and had a ton of fun working with Sally Hawkins in the role. The truth is that Maggie is not a real person. Diana certainly had royal dressers, but Sally Hawkins’ character was created for the purpose of the story. Royal dressers are intimate figures in the lives of royals like the late Princess Diana, so while it’s possible that a secret adoration could have sparked between this dynamic. 

The character was, however, reportedly inspired by Diana’s real-life dresser and loyal friend Fay Appleby, whom she traveled the world with. Diana also stuck with Appleby into the beginning of her battle with cancer. 

Kristen Stewart is, of course, an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, being part of it herself as a bisexual woman, and she recently got engaged to her partner, Dylan Meyer. The truth of the matter is if something like this did happen, it was the '90s and it was Princess Diana, and there is almost no way we would know about it. The beauty of the scene is getting to see Princess Diana for a moment, for the first time smiling and seeing the power of love from another person within the royal house. 

By the end of Spencer, it doesn’t feel like it’s making any bold claims about Diana’s sexuality, especially as its final moments turn the focus solely on Diana and her children. The entirety of Spencer is more about the feeling than the events itself, and Kristen Stewart loved bringing her scenes with Sally Hawkins to screen. 

With the colder months ahead, it’s time to get cozier with the finest movies Hollywood has to offer as the year comes to a close. One movie to keep on your radar this award season is Spencer, which sees Kristen Stewart transforming into the late Princess Diana circa 1991, just before she decided to separate from the crown. Alongside big-budget blockbuster Eternals, Pablo Larraín’s drama hit theaters last weekend. Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the movie, and it’s time to delve into them. 

Spencer premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival in September to high acclaim. Critics absolutely love Kristen Stewart in this movie, along with the Jackie filmmaker’s unique vision on the iconic royal. Kristen Stewart’s Performance Is Oscar-Worthy

Every year, there are a few performances that stick in the audience's mind as contenders for the many trophies Hollywood gives out throughout award season. Following Spencer, a ton of people are putting their early bets on Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana. 

Kristen Stewart has had a long-standing career dating back to her childhood starring against Jodie Foster in Panic Room back in 2002. Over the years, Stewart may be best known for her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight saga, but she’s been in all sorts of films, including critically-acclaimed indies like Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper. But with Spencer, K-Stew disappears into a role completely unlike herself, except the obvious awareness that the two of them have been high in the public eye. 

Tons of fans are claiming that Kristen Stewart will not only get nominated for the Best Actress Oscar, but that she will also take home the prize. It’s a great compliment to Stewart that so many people are behind her performance. 

The suggestion is not one that comes out of thin air either. For the time being, Kristen Stewart is, in fact, the frontrunner for the Best Actress category at this time. We’ll have to see in the coming weeks if it shifts with Lady Gaga in House of Gucci, Penelope Cruz in Parallel Mothers and Jennifer Hudson in Respect are also among those being considered. 

It’s More Of A Horror Movie Than Biopic

There’s been a ton of content over the years about Princess Diana, such as with in-depth documentaries, other movies and the award-winning Netflix series The Crown. With Spencer, there’s a completely different vision being explored here. As many fans noted, the concept is capturing the feeling that perhaps came with being Princess Diana, and to many, it felt like it took on an unexpected genre. 

Interestingly enough, many people found themselves calling Spencer a horror movie, and having seen it, I agree. The movie doesn’t have jump scares or creatures, but some of the filmmaking techniques, such as using music and specific shots to build intensity throughout the film, are ever present. There are a lot of dark concepts being explored here as Diana feels entrapped by her life over the holidays and deals with some serious issues due to years of being Prince Charles' wife.

In the vein of that conversation, it should be noted that the topics being touched upon that are part of Princess Diana’s story are her eating disorder/bulimia and instances of self harm that she was previously open about. For people who can relate to Diana’s struggles, it might be especially difficult to sit through Spencer, as one Twitter user shared: 

That’s a fair warning, especially since not everyone who will walk into Spencer will be aware that Princess Diana had a rough time keeping down food and was dealing with some instances of self harm. These are deep subjects that not every movie about her has touched on in such a visceral way. 

Spencer Is Being Named One Of 2021’s Best Movies

For those who liked it, Spencer is being given one of the highest praises one can give a movie. It’s going down with the year’s many many releases as one of their favorites, if not on the tip top ahead of the rest of November and December’s releases. As one fan said: 

Evidently Spencer has a lot of enjoyable elements. Aside from Kristen Stewart’s jaw-dropping performance and the script going for a different spin for Princess Diana, the movie is just really affecting people and leaving them really thinking about the movie. There’s something powerful about a movie that can truly move someone, and that seems to be the experience for many. 

You don’t hear the word “masterpiece” thrown around a lot, but many fans of the movie believe it to be just that, and are placing Spencer high on their best of lists for 2021. Pablo Larraín previously awed movie fans with 2016’s Jackie, where he did a character study on President John F. Kennedy’s wife and U.S. First Lady Jackie in the days following the JFK assassination. One of the most buzzy performances of the year has been Kristen Stewart’s turn as the late Princess Diana for Spencer. The drama is referred to as "a fable from a true tragedy” that follows the British royal during the Christmas holiday in 1991 as she decides to separate from Prince Charles. In order to pull off the performance, Stewart had to learn her accent and mannerisms, but seeing is believing. One might not realize how much work went into making her look like the princess, especially with some super expensive wigs. 

Wakana Yoshihara, Spencer’s hair and makeup designer, said it took six weeks to get Kristen Stewart’s wigs just right. While speaking with InStyle, she revealed that each wig that was made for the movie cost around $6,000 to make. The process was made more challenging by the fact that the movie was made during COVID-19. Yoshihara said that she had to send Stewart the wigs back and forth and make alterations to the style and color until it was to the liking of the production. 

As the hairstylist shared, it was quite easy to visualize Princess Diana’s do thanks to the hundreds of pictures taken of the royal at the time. However, it was decided by director Pablo Larrain that they would use her look from 1986 as a reference point, since her hair was so short during that year. 

One major element that was tricky was the hair color, which Wakana Yoshihara shared was altered slightly in order to better match Kristen Stewart’s complexion. She said Princess Diana’s was more of a honey blonde, but they went for a brighter, more ashier color to fit K-Stew. The wigs were switched out throughout the production, with the scene featuring Diana in a multitude of famous looks being the most difficult to manuever. 

It’s likely Kristen Stewart could not dye her hair for the role because her brunette roots would have begun to peak through during production. The shoot started in January 2021 in Germany and wrapped in the U.K. at the end of March. If you’ve gone blonde before, you may understand how much of an absolute pain that would have been for Stewart’s scalp and the hairstylists involved. Plus, this allowed for Wakana Yoshihara to experiment with the color along with styling it to their liking. 

Spencer has become a critical darling, as critics have raved about the film, including CinemaBlend’s own Corey Chichizola, who gave the film a 4.5 out of 5 stars in his review. Stewart is getting major Oscar buzz, with predictions (such as on Gold Derby) currently placing her performance at the top of their list for Best Actress. Spencer is playing in theaters now. 

The moment Kristen Stewart found out she was going to play Princess Diana in Spencer, she dove headfirst into research. In addition to watching shows like The Crown and devouring biographies, she also paid close attention to the Princess of Wales’ relationships with her children, Princes William and Harry. Now, ahead of the film's release, Stewart is revealing more of her acting process when it comes to the late royal's famous progeny. 

Princess Diana’s beloved sons were a major part of her life. So in order to accurately portray her in a film about her family, it’s only natural that Kristen Stewart would delve into their background. The Windsors were often in the public eye, making it easy to study their social interactions. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress described Diana’s relationship with her children: 

Any mother would feel protective of her children, but that went double for the late philanthropist. Princes Harry and William were so often the subject of intense media scrutiny, and she tried to shield them from the brunt of it. However, she also seemed very happy when she went out with them, which differed from her somber mien in some other childless appearances alongside then-husband Prince Charles. Kristen Stewart acknowledged the royal's maternal side, as well as the importance of treating her filial relationships with respect. She said: 

While the Twilight alum isn't a mother herself, she does relate to the emotions associated with the task. After all, part of being an actor is empathizing with people who have had different experiences and imagining how one would feel in that given situation. The star further explained: 

Kristen Stewart’s performance as Princess Diana is already drawing praise from numerous sources, so it seems like her hard work will pay off. You can decide for yourself when Spencer arrives in theaters on November 5. Audiences have high hopes for her work as they also do for her co-stars: Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Timothy Spall (The Harry Potter series), and Jack Farthing (The Lost Daughter). 

Princess Diana has been portrayed in the media many times since her tragic death in 1997. Recently, however, it seems that the former Princess of Wales is everywhere, from the Broadway musical biography Diana to Emma Corrin’s buzzworthy performance in Season 4 of The Crown. So when it was announced that Kristen Stewart would take on the role of Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain’s Spencer, it’s only natural to assume that the Twilight star would refer to The Crown for inspiration. But did KStew actually watch the Netflix original to prepare for her role?

In the latest cover story for Entertainment Weekly, Kristen Stewart candidly discussed the pressure that came with taking on a role like Princess Diana. With Emma Corrin having just played a young Diana on season 4 of The Crown, comparisons are bound to be drawn. One couldn’t blame Kirsten Stewart for avoiding The Crown, but truth be told, she actually loves the show, specifically Emma Corrin’s performance. She told EW: 

The media wasted no time in drawing comparisons between Emma Corrin and Kristen Stewart, but the former Bella Swan seems totally supportive of her fellow actress. There’s no need to make it a competition, especially when the two women are playing Diana at different stages of her life. It would be like comparing the performances of Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown: for all intents and purposes, they are playing two separate roles. 

In any event, it would be a shame to limit portrayals of Diana to just one film or show. The Princess of Wales was endlessly compelling, with a giving spirit that enamored her to the public. Kristen Stewart agrees: 

With that kind of insight, it seems like Kristen Stewart will make the transition from indie darling to British royalty with ease. And if it means more actresses playing the role of Diana, then so be it. That just means that fans of the Princess of Wales will have even more access to her story.

When Kristen Stewart was cast as Princess Diana of Wales, it was a left-field pick. And yet, here we are in awe of her performance prior to her latest film's release. The actress has already blown critics away during its tour on the film festival circuit and now as we gaze upon the first full peak of her in the role, it looks like Spencer could very well be a movie that’ll stay on our radar throughout award season.

The teaser trailer for Spencer came out last month and briefly introduced the tone of the film, showing just one line of dialogue from Kristen Stewart’s Princess Diana. This new two-minute trailer features so much more of the actress’ performance. It’s emotional, unsettling and most of all incredibly on point to embodying the late royal.

The full trailer opens with the royal family waiting on Princess Diana for a family gathering, but she’s late. She walks in the massive British property nervously, washing her hands in the bathroom and muttering to herself that it will only be “three days, that’s it.” It’s the 1991 holiday weekend when the late Princess of Wales decided she wanted to divorce her husband Charles, which eventually happened in 1996, the year before Diana’s death.

Kristen Stewart’s Diana looks suffocated by her life in the public eye, constantly being told to smile and put up a front as cameras flash around her. She has a frustrating conversation with Prince Charles who tells her she needs to do things she “hates” for the “good of the country” which leads to some serious frustration from her end.

It looks like throughout the movie, Diana will rely heavily on Sally Hawkins’ character of Maggie, who seems to be an assistant and confidant of some kind. While speaking to her in a car, Diana has a monologue about missing a more simple and quiet life, poignantly saying that “there’s no hope for me.” Later Maggie tells Diana to “fight them,” saying that she is her own weapon as Stewart is seen walking in Diana’s wedding dress.

The most gutting line comes when Stewart’s Diana turns around and asks “will they kill me, you think?” as flashes of other parts of the film, including Diana driving off with her children closes out the trailer. The story is already marked in tragedy, clearly considering the figure’s fate. In 1997, Diana died in a car crash in Paris while fleeing the paparazzi and alongside her new partner, Dodi Fayed.

Spencer looks like an emotional character study of an icon, not unlike director Pablo Lorraín’s Oscar-nominated film Jackie, which came out in 2016. The movie is loosely depicting and imagining Princess Diana’s difficult decision, with the director making it clear that much of the film is a fictionalization of her life.

Following her turn as Abby Holland in last year’s popular Hulu offering Happiest Season, Twilight actress Kristen Stewart is next slated to star as Princess Diana of Wales, born Diana Frances Spencer, in Spencer. With Stewart’s performance in Spencer having collected a lot of awards buzz as the Pablo Larraín-directed movie has made the film festival circuit in recent weeks, it’s looking like this will go down as one of the most notable entries in her filmography. That said, Stewart has now explained why she felt her agreeing to play Princess Diana felt irresponsible when she first signed onto the project.

During Spencer’s time to shine at the Toronto International Film Festival, Kristen Stewart revealed that when she said yes to participating in the movie, she hadn’t even read the script penned by Allied’s Steven Knight. Stewart recalled the conversation between her and Pablo Larraín thusly (via Indiewire):

There’s no denying that it definitely helps for a big-time actor to read a script before deciding whether or not to participate in a movie or TV show. Simply being told about the role they’re being envisioned for might not be enough to paint a full picture of the project, and it may turn out that this actually wasn’t a good fit for the actor. As far as Kristen Stewart is concerned, she added that normally when she accepts a role, it comes from a place of “trust me, I can do this.” However, she didn’t have that feeling when she decided to play Princess Diana in Spencer. The actress continued:

Evidently Kristen Stewart did ultimately do a spectacular job with the Princess Diana role in Spencer if she’s being discussed as a potential nominee at the next Academy Awards ceremony. Still, despite having not read the Spencer script ahead of agreeing to star in the movie, Stewart found that the story was indeed a good fit for her upon reading it. Stewart also didn’t feel the pressure to play Princess Diana “perfectly,” although the one aspect of her the actress knew she had to nail was her being a mother, with Stewart describing Diana as not being “very good at protecting herself, but she was really good at protecting” her children.

In a 180 degree turn from Stewart taking on Joan Jett back in 2010 for The Runaways, the actress is taking on the tragic story of the late royal during the weekend she decides to end her marriage with Prince Charles. As Stewart recently expressed, playing the role became an intense process that even got a little “spooky.”

Spencer will not deal with the 1997 death of Princess Diana, but instead takes viewers back to 1991 at a time when the royal decided to make the controversial decision to remove herself from the crown. Kristen Stewart shared her experience taking on the character:

The title of Spencer is in reference to Diana’s maiden name. The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival last week to rave reviews from its first audiences. It has been named by some as the “best film of the year,” and there’s an aura around the Hollywood community that Kristen Stewart could be honored with an Oscar nomination for the role some time soon. Natalie Portman really committed to the role of Jackie Kennedy, truly transforming herself in the process. And it would seem as though Kristen Stewart has done the same when it comes to playing Princess Di. So far, her transformation, which includes a massive ring, has been interesting to see.

I sure hope that Kristen Stewart doesn't fall into a body of water while filming Spencer. Because that rock is so massive that she might end up sinking right down. It's a great recreation of Princess Diana's iconic ring, as well as a blazer from the history books.

If you would have told me 10 years ago that Bella Swan’s real-life counterpart Kristen Stewart would be the face of Princess Diana, I would have sooner believed in Twilight’s sparkling vampires. Nearly 15 years later, here we are with Stewart portraying The Princess of Wales in the biopic Spencer. And I’m mildly convinced that casting directors are wizards, because Stewart’s transformation into the Princess is actually stunning. The Happiest Season actress has spoken out about how she prepared for the intimidating role of Princess Diana in the upcoming Spencer.

Playing the role of such a beloved historical figure would be a challenge alone, and when you add in the tragedy that was Princess Diana’s death it becomes a whole new ball game. What’s even more is that in an interview with ET Kristen Stewart explains that Spencer will be a very different telling of the Princess’ story. Apparently we can expect a more internalized version of Diana’s story, which means in order to portray her Stewart had to attempt to get inside Diana’s head. Here it is in Stewart’s own words:

This, of course, is no easy feat for any character, let alone one who has been dead for over 20 years and whose death is full of speculation by many. In fact, in the same interview, Kristen Stewart says that the project is a “really meditative” one because of all the different theories surrounding the late Princess, all of which she had to consider when preparing for the role. When it came out that Kristen Stewart would be playing the iconic Princess Diana in a biopic, people really weren’t too sure what to make of the Twilight star taking on the role and doing it justice. But once we saw how Stewart looked in the upcoming biopic Spencer, tides were shifted as Stewart has the soft beauty people remember of the well-loved Princess Diana. Although Spencer started filming this year, we can most likely expect to see Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Princess Diana in all her glory later this year, hopefully in the Fall. The Crown Season 4 has arrived and, as you can imagine, fans are eager to jump back into the history of the Royal Family. While the critically acclaimed Netflix show is typically accompanied by hype, this season was especially exciting for many, as it introduces Princess Diana and covers her whirlwind romance with Prince Charles – as well as the issues the couple later experienced. Kristen Stewart Is Intimidated By The Accent And Is Working With A Dialect Coach

Although she wasn't on the same level as her future husband and the rest of the Windsor family, Diana Spencer was born into British nobility, which resulted in the one-day princess having a very distinct way of speaking. In the same InStyle interview mentioned earlier, Kristen Stewart, an American, revealed that she is intimidated by the accent because people know how the late Princess of Wales' voice sounded and how it was so distinct. To help her out in this area, Stewart has been working with a dialect coach to make her voice sound as much like Diana's and be authentic as possible.

Pablo Larraín Is Directing The Movie

Fans of the 2016 biographical drama Jackie, which followed former first lady Jackie Kennedy in the weeks following the assassination of her husband, John F. Kennedy, and chances it took with retelling such a notable moment in American History will be pleased to hear that the director of the Oscar-nominated movie will also be helming Spencer. In an interview with Deadline, Pablo Larraín revealed that while he didn't grow up obsessed with the royal family in his native Chile, he has always been fascinated by fairy tales, which is explained was very much the heart of this Princess Diana story.

Steven Knight Wrote The Script

Steven Knight, the creator of shows like Peaky Blinders and Taboo, and writer of movies like Eastern Promises and The Girl in the Spider's Web has penned the script for Spencer. As mentioned earlier, Deadline reports that Knight's screenplay follows Diana during one of her final Christmas holidays while still a member of the House of Windsor and will primarily be set in the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England.

Production Is Set To Begin In Mid-January 2021

There is no release date or even word on who will share the screen with Kristen Stewart in Spencer, but the project is slated to enter production in January 2021 according to the actress. In the same InStyle interview mentioned earlier, the Underwater and Charlie's Angels star explained how the early 2021 shooting date will affect her holiday plans:

Netflix has become more and more known for releasing original content ranging from hard-hitting action films like Extraction to wildly popular documentaries like Tiger King, but now it looks like the streaming service is going to be taking a note from Disney+ and will stream its own musical. Except, there’s a twist.

After Hamilton’s wild success on Disney+, musicals are looking to become big business for streaming giants. In fact, we already learned Disney is planning to adapt another hit Broadway musical with Once On This Island, and now Netflix is hopping into the game by adapting the Broadway musical Diana, based on Princess Diana’s life, per The BBC. The twist? Netflix will actually release the filmed version before the musical hits the Broadway stage.

The plan is to film the musical on stage in New York without a live audience. While we don’t know when that will take place or when Netflix plans to release the musical on the streaming site, we do know that Diana is scheduled to hit Broadway on May 25, 2021. Broadway has closed its doors to the public through 2020 as the pandemic surges in certain locations.

So it makes sense a move like this might be made, though this is truly a first. A Broadway musical has never been released in a movie theater or on TV before first appearing on a stage. In the past, the fear was that if a Broadway show came to homes too soon, there wouldn’t be any motivation to go see the production live. However, with Hamilton’s success and the strange times we live in, perceptions and motivations may be changing.

The rush to streaming has also caused never-before-seen changes in how and when people see movies, which has only been exacerbated by current events. First, back in April, Universal made the tough choice to release Trolls World Tour back in April direct to VOD. More recently, due to current events, Warner Bros. made the unprecedented announcement that Tenet, after seeing several delays, would release internationally before hitting US theaters. This was also a surprise, considering Tenet was supposed to be a huge blockbuster that brought people back to theaters in the US. Tenet is set to release in the US on September 3.

In another big twist, Disney announced this month that Mulan, one of the studio's greatly anticipated live-action remakes, would skip a theatrical release and go straight to the streaming platform Disney+. On top of that, Disney is busy experimenting with what could be a new model and threw another curveball, noting Disney+ would charge an additional $30 for subscribers. only to see it.

Netflix, for its part, has long changed the way audiences have consumed content. From its humble beginnings as a DVD rental delivery service to its now giant streaming website, Netflix seems to have a knack for changing how the game is played. Diana coming to its streaming service first before hitting Broadway looks to be just another chapter in the ever-evolving market.

I guess it’s time for the Twilight star to brush up on her British accent. Pablo Larraín announced on Wednesday that he is developing the movie to Deadline and named Kristen Stewart as the lead who will be taking on the role. The Jackie director explained his choice with these words:

The movie will be titled Spencer in reference to Princess Diana’s maiden name, and it will take place over three days in the early ‘90s when she was away for the holidays in the House of Windsor, Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England and decided her marriage to Charles was no longer working. Pablo Larraín explained his decision to make a film about Diana thusly:

Spencer was written by Steven Knight, who wrote 2019’s Serenity, 2013’s Tom Hardy-led Locke and the 2002 Oscar-nominated script Dirty Pretty Things. The movie is expected to begin production in early 2021. Pablo Larraín gushed about the way Kristen Stewart has been responding to the script, her approach to the character and called her a “force of nature.”

Kristen Stewart is coming off portraying French New Wave icon Jean Seberg in Benedict Andrews’ Seberg. The recent release was not warmly received, with a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, but criticisms were directed more toward the content than Stewart’s performance. The actress has had a series of bummers recently. Her movies Charlie’s Angels and Underwater both suffered low box office performance and so-so reviews.

Playing Princess Diana could give Kristen Stewart a real chance to show off her talents for a big audience and compete during awards season. Spencer will not specifically deal with the infamous death of Diana, but rather provide a snapshot of her life in a pivotal moment and the “ferocious” love she had for her sons.

There's no word as to whether Prince William and Harry have been clued into Kristen Stewart’s new role, but the fact that she is not British could play a role in subsequent backlash. The actress does have a sense of what it's like to be constantly pursued by paparazzi and the press. Taking a plunge into the dark side of fame could be just perfect for the Twilight alum.

Wonder Woman has been fighting the good fight in the pages of DC Comics for nearly 80 years, and she’s been accompanied by military man Steve Trevor every step of the way. This partnership eventually translated to the live-action medium and is currently being showcased on the big screen. However, before Gal Gadot had Chris Pine, Lynda Carter had Lyle Waggoner. The actor who played Trevor alongside Carter’s Diana Prince passed away this week, and Carter is now paying her respects.

Lynda Carter took to Twitter to post a vintage, publicity photo of her and Wagonner in character. She also added a heartfelt message in which she referred to the actor as a friend:

It’s hard not to feel something when reading Carter’s tribute. Even though the two hadn’t been in regular contact, they seem to have still had a firm friendship.

Lynda Carter and Lyle Waggoner would first share the screen together as Diana Prince and Steve Trevor when it premiered on ABC in 1975. The two would continue their roles for the series’ entire run, even after the show switched networks and titles for its final two seasons. At one point, the series almost spawned a feature film adaptation.

Waggoner would actually play two characters on the show, as he would play Steve Trevor Jr. when the series transitioned from the dark days of World War II to the bright backdrop of the 1970s.

Wonder Woman may seem a bit dated to younger viewers but, for a generation, it was a weekly event that allowed comic book fans to visit with one of their favorite superheroines.

Together, Carter and Waggoner would help to define the relationship between Prince and Trevor and essentially serve as a precursor to the bond between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine’s iterations of the characters.

While Gadot and Pine’s relationship has thematic differences, it still maintains the love and respect that was established by their ‘70s predecessors. Their connection does, however, look as though it will enter more uncharted waters in the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, which will seemingly resurrect Trevor and bring him back into Diana’s orbit in the 1980s.

Fans of the classic TV series undoubtedly hold a soft spot for Lyle Waggoner’s portrayal of the fan-favorite fighter pilot. Outside of music, Nicki Minaj has also been pushing her career as an actress. She recently appeared in Barbershop: The Next Cut in 2016 and she played a reoccurring character on Steven Universe. Meanwhile, Minaj has also stepped behind-the-camera as well, as she directed the music videos for "Barbie Tingz" and "Chun-Li," both of which came out earlier this year. Minaj is also working as a model and she recently tried to beat Kim Kardashian West at breaking the Internet with her own revealing magazine cover for Paper Magazine a few months earlier. Indeed, Nicki Minaj keeps herself busy.

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is also earning headlines for her love life, as she is reportedly dating fellow rapper Eminem. The Barbie-adoring musician was featured on YG"s newest single "Big Bank," and it was in that tune that Minaj rapped about how she "met Slim Shady," and she later claimed that "once he goes black, he'll be back again." It's possible this is simply an act, but it's getting people talking anyway.

Today is one of the most important days in Kate Middleton's life, as she brought her third child, a son, into the world this morning. To celebrate the highly anticipated arrival of the newest prince, as well as the honor of bringing in another member to the royal family, the Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to one of the family's most famous and beloved fallen heirs. As seen in a photo provided by the Kensington Palace, Middleton showed the press, as well as the adoring public, her newborn child while dressed in a beautiful outfit that was similar to one worn by Princess Diana, her late mother-in-law. As she stepped out of the Lindo Wing with Prince William holding her newest son in her arms, Kate Middleton probably gave a few photographers and onlookers some serious deja vu as the Duchess of Cambridge was seen wearing a lovely red dress with a Peter Pan collar. The outfit was not the same one Princess Diana wore when she presented Prince Harry, Prince William's brother, to the public 34 years ago, but it's a similar look and design. Of course, the comparisons are meant to be intentional between the two outfits.The tribute-paying dress was provided by Jenny Packham, who also made the dresses Kate Middleton wore after the births of her previous two children, Prince George (4) and Princess Charlotte (2).

This is not the first time Kate Middleton has paid tribute to Princess Diana, particularly after the delivery of a child. In 2013, when Middleton gave birth to Prince George, the Duchess of Cambridge was also seen wearing a blue polka outfit that was similar in its design as the one Princess Diana wore when she stepped out to unveil Prince William, George's father, for the first time in 1982.

As it was reported this morning, Kate Middleton gave birth to her newest son at St. Mary's Hospital in London at 1101 hours. The name of the child is yet unknown, though we should expect to hear the announcement soon. The baby was born 8 lbs and 7 oz. Prince William was there to support his wife, and the rest of the royal family is said to be "delighted" by the arrival of this newest member of royalty. Deliberations were made the week prior at the hospital, as it has been known for some time that the due date was arriving this month. The medical team was led by Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston. They were also on board to deliver Princess Charlotte. Additionally, barriers and parking restrictions were also set in place last week with the baby expected to arrive.

Kate Middleton and Prince William were soon seen exiting the hospital after they first showed their newest baby to the world. We wish them many congratulations on the newest prince!

Today marks 20 years since Princess Diana's untimely death. Among the people opening up about the tragic accident is Xavier Gourmelon, the first responder who gave Diana CPR and temporarily resuscitated her. As fate would have it, the 50-year-old former firefighter was one of the first people on the scene after the accident and even spoke to the Princess a little bit before her death. In his first interview about the incident, Gourmelon said,

Apparently, Xavier Gourmelon was being sincere in reassuring Princess Diana. While he opened up about what happened the night of the accident, he said he was on the scene in three minutes. When he encountered Diana, he noted he honestly thought she would make it after he managed to resuscitate her and get her set up in the ambulance. In fact, he reported that he was horrified when he got word that she died hours later at the hospital.

Xavier Gourmelon told The Sun he treated the accident like it were any emergency he encountered. He said the crash appeared typical with "the usual causes: speed and a drunk driver." He did not even realize he was working on Princess Diana until she had been put in the ambulance and rushed to the hospital.

It sounds like Xavier Gourmelon did what he could and followed protocol, so why was he silent for twenty years? Apparently, Gourmelon kept quiet out of respect for his job. He explained,

In the interview, Xavier Gourmelon revealed a piece of information many people might not consider. Before he retired, he occasionally had to return to the spot in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel where the accident occurred. Apparently, accidents still happen there when motorists slow to see the spot and crash or when pedestrians cross the road to see it and get hit.

These days, Xavier Gourmelon is but one of many people talking about that sad time. For example, Colin Tebbutt and Paul Burrell, former drivers for the royal family, recently participated in a documentary about Princess Diana. They spoke about the hardship of retrieving her body from the hospital in France.

In another documentary, Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, talked about the tragedy. He expressed how hard it was to watch Prince William and Prince Harry follow Diana's casket.

In fact, Prince William and Prince Harry both spoke about Princess Diana this year, too. In one interview, Prince William reflected on parts of his life he wishes his mom were alive to see. In another, Prince Harry said it took him twenty years to seek therapy for the pain he felt over his mom's death. Back then, even Queen Elizabeth II had a horrible time coping. This fact recently came to light when a letter she wrote to her aide in the tragedy's aftermath surfaced. In the letter, the Queen expressed how hard the loss of Diana was for everyone.

Indeed, the loss of Princess Diana was awful. It seems she had a profound effect on the lives of many people, even in the final moments of hers. It is hard to believe it has been twenty years.

A letter Queen Elizabeth II wrote six days after the death of Princess Diana is shedding light on the matriarch's state of grief immediately after the death of her ex-daughter-in-law. In the letter, which Queen Elizabeth II wrote to her aide, Lady Henriette Abel Smith, the queen touched on the sadness in her heart, but she kept an upbeat tone. She wrote,

In the days after Princess Diana's death, critics chastised Queen Elizabeth II's apparent attitude toward the matter. Queen Elizabeth II was in Balmoral, Scotland, on vacation with Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry, and when she did not return to London right away to speak, she received additional backlash. So this letter, which ABC revealed, is important to see because it retroactively helps to add warmth to Queen Elizabeth II's immediate reaction.

Queen Elizabeth II did give a powerful speech on the night before Princess Diana's funeral. That moment combined with information from this letter helps to paint a clearer picture of Queen Elizabeth II's emotional state. We knew she chose to stay in Balmoral to be with her grieving family, and now we know she felt devastated by the loss, especially because of the enormous impact it had on her grandkids.

The twentieth anniversary of Princess Diana's death is right around the corner, so this news is, of course, one of many items we have seen about the People's Princess. For example, Prince William and Prince Harry recently filmed the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, and they spoke with individuals who received help from Princess Diana. Furthermore, People and ABC put together a documentary, The Story of Diana, in which two former royal drivers talked about retrieving Princess Diana's body from Paris.

Similarly, Prince William gave an interview earlier this year and spoke about wishing his mom were alive to see his achievements. Plus, Prince Harry recently opened up about seeking therapy to deal with the trauma of his mother's death and the media blitz that followed. In fact, Prince Harry revealed he once thought about leaving the royal position, and he talked about how hard it was to walk behind his mom's casket. He said people would never in their right mind ask a kid to do that today. His uncle on Princess Diana's side, Charles Spencer, agreed in a BBC interview and said essentially the same thing.

So, the stories about Princess Diana certainly are on people's minds as the 20-year milestone approaches. Seeing this letter certainly helps to cast a better light on Queen Elizabeth II's reaction, and it shows why she stayed behind with the family instead of racing back to London for tributes. Clearly, Princess Diana's death had an enormous impact on everyone in the family, including the queen, and that impact was likely heightened by how strained the fallout from the divorce had gotten in the months leading off to Princess Diana's death (For example: the kids hadn't seen their mother for a month prior to her death. Princess Diana may be gone, but her warmth and her spirit will be remembered for generations to come.

Nearly twenty years after Princess Diana's death, her longtime driver, Colin Tebbutt, is speaking out about losing his friend. Tebbutt was one of the two British drivers who retrieved Princess Diana's body from the hospital where she passed away in Paris, France. In a recent interview, Tebbutt talked about what he witnessed on that fateful night at the hospital. From the sounds of it, the chauffeur was in such a state of shock when he saw Princess Diana's lifeless body that his mind played tricks on him and made him think she was alive. He said,

Colin Tebbutt offers the description of the hospital scene during The Story of Diana, an upcoming television event by People and ABC. The story is one Tebbutt has touched on before. He previously talked about having to put up blankets over the windows because paparazzi standing on adjacent buildings were trying to use zoom-lens cameras to capture a picture of Princess Diana through the hospital windows. Naturally, the temperature of the room went from hot to sweltering, which is why Tebbutt turned on all of the fans. He has said that he wanted not to be emotional at the hospital but that seeing her hair flutter tore him up inside.

A similar story previously came from Paul Burrell, the other driver who joined Colin Tebbutt in retrieving Princess Diana's body. In an interview, Burrell said he honestly thought Princess Diana was not dead when he entered the hospital room. He said the thought crossed his mind that the whole situation was nothing more than an elaborate joke. Sadly, that was not the case.

Princess Diana died in a devastating car accident on August 31, 1997. With the twentieth anniversary approaching, stories about Princess Diana have again begun to dominate headlines as people who were close to her are opening up about that tragic time. In that documentary, Prince William and Prince Harry talk about the fact they had not seen their mother in a month when she died because she was making a humanitarian trip to speak out against the use of landmines. In recent times, Prince William also reflected on milestones his mother has missed and how much the royal family misses her. Colin Tebbutt and Paul Burrell unquestionably miss her every day, too.

The twentieth anniversary of Princess Diana's death is nearly upon us, and with the date looming, there's a new documentary with Prince William and Prince Harry looking back at their mother's life. The film shines a light on the fact that the Duke of Cambridge and his younger brother had not seen Princess Diana in a month when she passed away on August 1, 1997. At that time, the People's Princess and Prince Charles had a custody arrangement that kept the boys traveling back and forth. The princes were with their father when their mother died. In the documentary, Prince Harry illuminates this subject and says,

It turns out Prince William and Prince Harry had plans to see their mother on the day that she and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, died in a car accident in Paris. The boys and Princess Diana had been apart for weeks. The princes were vacationing with Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II in Balmoral, Scotland. Meanwhile, Princess Diana was busy making humanitarian trips, including a journey to Bosnia to speak out against the use of landmines.

In the documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, Prince Harry talks with Zarko Peric and Malic Bradaric, landmine victims who spent time with Princess Diana during her Bosnia trip. Prince Harry tells Peric and Bradaric that they were two of the last people to see Princess Diana. Furthermore, he talks about the final phone call he and his mom shared before she passed away. In a heartbreaking moment, Prince Harry says,

Luckily, Prince William and Prince Harry had spent some quality time on a vacation with Princess Diana and the Al Fayed family earlier that summer. Still, the death of their mom and the media circus surrounding her passing had lasting effects on both young men. In fact, Prince Harry recently talked about seeking therapy years after her death to deal with the residual trauma from that time.

Nevertheless, Prince William and Prince Harry seem to have let that moment inspire their works of social activism. For example, the princes and Princess Catherine developed the social campaign Heads Together to combat stigmas that keep people from seeking help for mental health matters. By reflecting on the tragedy and helping others who might be struggling, the princes are showing themselves to be men of great character.

Prince William was but fifteen when Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France, on Saturday, August 30, 1997. The story captured newspaper headlines for ages, but by her death, Princess Diana had for years been the focus of highly publicized stories about the Royal family's problems, such as her marriage to and divorce from Prince Charles, a plot that director and producer Ryan Murphy reportedly plans to chronicle in the second season of Feud.

In adulthood, Prince William has had his share of headline-making moments. However, the stories about him have been positive, for the most part. In 2011, he married Kate Middleton in a lavish ceremony watched on televisions around the world. In the subsequent few years, Prince William and Princess Catherine welcomed two adorable kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Now the family makes headlines for happily participating in family celebrations, such as Pippa Middleton's recent wedding. Sure, there have been negative stories, but they have often come from outside the family. For example, Prince William recently gave a court testimony against paparazzi who took pictures of him and his wife on vacation. In fact, in the statement, Prince William cited his mother's death and indicated the photographers had made him feel like he was reliving that harrowing event.

Still, in recent times, Prince William has made incredible strides not only to overcome the trauma he endured in the wake of Princess Diana's death but also to help others who experience similar situations. For a year, he and the Duchess of Cambridge worked with Prince Harry on a social campaign called Heads Together, an effort that hopes to change stigmas about mental health and asking for help when therapy is needed. During the campaign, Prince Harry expressed he, too, had bottled up the pain he felt over his mother's death. He said it took him a long time to realize he needed help to cope with decades-old emotions.

Moreover, in one Heads Together campaign stop, Kate Middleton shared personal thoughts about how she sometimes feels lonely in motherhood, despite the constant barrage of people in her life. In other words, being a member of the Royal family does not make someone emotionless or perfect. Princess Diana certainly seemed to know that statement to be true.

It is hard to believe it has nearly been twenty years since Princess Diana's passing, but it is heartening to see how Prince William has managed. Yes, Prince William is correct his children will never know their grandmother in person, but surely learning about her legacy will be powerful.

Princess Diana was one of the most prominent figures in the late 20th century, both for how she lived her life and the manner of her death. Now, her story is slated to be told on the small screen in a brand new documentary. The project will air on HBO and provide a closer look at her life and death than audiences have ever seen before.

The documentary will be produced across the pond for ITV. HBO has secured the U.S. rights and should be the perfect place for American audiences to see Princess Diana's story on the small screen. HBO Documentary Films has released some stellar productions over the years, covering everything from Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds to Slenderman. The project will revolve around interviews from her sons, the Duke of Cambridge (and future King of England) William and Prince Harry.

William and Harry will reportedly share their views on their mother's contributions to the world, especially the humanitarian and charitable work that brought international attention to problems like homelessness, child bereavement, and HIV and AIDS. Diana led an impactful life as Princess of Wales, during and after her marriage to Prince Charles, who remains first in line for the throne of England. Her divorce from Charles made major headlines, but she remained a member of the Royal Family due to the fact that she was mother of then-Prince William and Prince Harry. William and Harry's memories of their mother should shed more light on her life than we've ever gotten to see in the past.

The documentary will also feature interviews from many of the most important people in Princess Diana's life, some of whom have not spoken openly about her death. ITV and HBO will air the project later this year, which happens to mark 20 years since she passed away back in 1997. This is the perfect time to honor her contributions to the world during her time in the spotlight. Never-before-seen archival material will be used as well to paint a full picture of her life. Neither ITV nor HBO has yet announced an exact date for the documentary's premiere.

For those of us who never fully appreciated her contributions to the international community or even those who best remember Diana for the conspiracy theories surrounding her passing in 1997, this new documentary could be an eye-opening experience that honors who she was through the eyes of her children. As a show about the current crop of royals in England, Netflix's The Crown has many fans of the royal family wondering when they can hope to see the show's version of Princess Diana on screen. Well, now we know the answer, and it looks like we'll have to wait a while. The show, which has been following the reign of England's current queen, Elizabeth II, is taking things slow in its dramatization of the events of her time on the throne, and won't be bringing Princess Diana into the picture until the end of Season 3. The show is then planning to feature her heavily for Seasons 4 and 5.

Princess Diana, of course, became one of people's favorite members of the royal family after her wedding to Queen Elizabeth's eldest child and heir apparent, Prince Charles. Their wedding captured the imagination of the world in 1981, as it was televised and reached over 750 million people around the world. She was widely known as The People's Princess, and did extensive charity work on the behalf of a variety of causes, including mental illness, drug abuse, landmines, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, and leprosy. Diana quickly became the most photographed member of the royal family, and this led to her death in a car accident as she and her boyfriend were being followed by paparazzi in 1997. Her televised funeral saw 32.10 million people tune in in Britain, while several millions more watched around the world.

It's obvious that the life of Princess Diana and her time as a member of the royal family will be a big arc for The Crown once the show reaches that time period. Someone who was as well-known and loved as her would have to be included in the series, as long as it lasts long enough to tell her story in Season 3, 4 and 5. The show, though, has some work to do to get up to that point in the story of Queen Elizabeth's reign and those that have been a part of her life and career all this time.

First, they have to make Prince Charles a bigger part of the story. As of the end of Season 1, he was still a boy who didn't have much of a role in the series, other than being seen playing with his little sister, Princess Anne, or being taught to fish by his father, Prince Philip. But, filming on Season 2 is currently underway, and they've already started making inroads in that direction. The Crown creator and writer Peter Morgan also spoke with People magazine about the direction that the second season is taking, saying:

While the first season of The Crown did the hard work of introducing audiences to Elizabeth, her husband Philip and the rest of the royal family during the early days of her reign, now the show will be able to branch out a bit and focus more on Philip's backstory, and on the boy who will someday be king. As is to be expected, as Charles grows up on screen, we'll likely see more of him, which will eventually lead to his relationship with Princess Diana.

Was the '90s the last great decade? That's what National Geographic Channel's upcoming three-part miniseries, The '90s: The Last Great Decade? seeks to explore. The other day, we shared a clip from the miniseries that focused on O.J. Simpson's Ford Bronco highway chase. Today, Nat Geo has given us a few more clips from the miniseries, one of which focuses on the impact Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's music had on society's youth during the early '90s.

"The music felt real and honest and true. And they captured what youth was going through at that time," Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty says in the video above, speaking about Nirvana and the band's lead singer/songwriter, Kurt Cobain. As fun as it is to flashback to decades gone by, it's not hard to see a pattern developing here with these videos, as the three 90s icons featured in the above clips -- Anna Nicole Smith, Princess Diana and Kurt Cobain -- are no longer with us. It makes me think that perhaps the tone of this series won't be (entirely) nostalgic fondness, but an examination of the state of pop culture in that decade and the direction it took us for better and/or worse. That brings us to this quick clip has author/comedian Baratunde Thurston talking society's increasing curiosity about the dysfunctional lives of other people...

"There was a grotesqueness to our desire to leer into the dysfunctional life of someone else," Thurston says. Put that way, it makes it seem like maybe the 90s wasn't really the last great decade, but more the start of a turning point for society. Combined with the internet, privacy became more relative a term than ever for celebrities, and society's appetites for more information about their private lives likely spiked as a result. It's an interesting topic to discuss, at the very least, especially when we factor in the onslaught of celebrity-focused reality TV shows that emerged in the decade that followed the 90s.

It'll be interesting to see how in depth National Geographic Channel's three-part miniseries gets as it relates to the impact the 90s had on the direction of American culture. More than three decades ago, Princess Diana pushed aside stuffy, royal palace traditions and gave birth to Prince William inside a hospital in London. Duchess Catherine hasn’t yet announced where she’ll have the heir to the British throne, but insiders are saying she will almost certainly follow Princess Diana’s example and give birth inside a hospital. The only real question is which one.

According to ABC News, there are three medical facilities that could play host to Kate when the big day comes: King Edward VII Hospital, Portland Hospital and St. Mary’s. King Edward VII Hospital is where the Duchess is currently being treated for hyperemesis gravidarum and would offer a smooth transition and doctors already abreast of her medical history. St. Mary’s would offer a link to the past since William was born there, as well as some of the most sophisticated doctors in the world, and Portland Hospital, the current favorite of celebrities, would offer the most privacy as well as luxury accommodations for Prince William to stay in the same room.

Really, the only wrong answer here is the royal palace itself. It would be beyond stupid for her to give birth outside an accredited hospital, regardless of what the famous queens have done for the past ten centuries. Her health and the health of the child are the two most important goals, and any of these three hospitals could no doubt help in that respect.

Prince William is set to turn thirty on Thursday. No doubt his lovely wife and the rest of his family will gift him wonderful surprises, but no matter what their choices, it seems unlikely any will come close to topping his late mother’s present. When Princess Diana passed fifteen years ago, her will split the majority of her possessions and assets between sons William and Harry to be inherited on their thirtieth birthdays.

After years of waiting, the big day will finally arrive tomorrow, adding a reported fifteen and a half million dollars to William and Kate’s bank account. Even for a man who grew up with many of the finest possessions in England, that’s an incredible one day haul. Don’t look for the couple to spend it quickly however. With the Olympics coming up in addition to their normal goodwill duties, there won’t be too much time for shopping in the immediate future.

According to US Weekly, no official plans to celebrate the birthday have been announced, but if Will has his way, he might well choose to watch movies alongside Kate on the couch. The two are reportedly very fond of impulsively ordering films from Amazon, and with the new loot, they shouldn’t have any trouble paying the credit card bill.

It’ll be a few more years before Prince Harry rakes in his share of the pot, but given his personality, something tells me he’ll have a little bit more of a party to celebrate.

Jessica Chastain has had the kind of year that sets up an actor for life. Since May of this year she has appeared in six films in theatrical release, from her ethereal role as the mother in Tree of Life to her bubbly, white trash Celia Foote in The Help, to a haunted Mossad agent in The Debt to going full-on Shakespeare in Coriolanus, out later this year. In a matter of months she went from total unknown to absolutely everywhere, and like any smart woman would do, she's taking that momentum and running with it. She's already in production with a starring role in the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror film Mama, then she'll join Tom Cruise in the much bigger sci-fi project Horizons, from Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski.

And after that, she may have a chance to move away from genre films into the ultimate actor catnip: a biopic. Thompson on Hollywood reports from the American Film Martket that Chastain is set to star in Caught in Flight, a biopic about Princess Diana and an affair she carried on with a heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Kahn. This happened in 1995, after her divorce from Prince Charles but not long before her death in 1997. Oliver Hirschbiegel, the German director behind the very good Downfall and the very bad The Invasion, is set to direct the script, which paints Kahn as the love of the princess's life, a man she was so passionate about she considered converting to Islam.

At the same time, this won't be any hagiography of the princess, so you can't expect Prince William and Kate to show up at the premiere. Apparently the script depicts Diana as "a damaged person who stalks the doctor after he ends the affair." It's also unclear how this fits in with the timeline of Diana's relationship with Dodi Fayed, whom she was with when she died. That said, Downfall proved how interesting a movie can be even with a historical figure you think you know everything about-- that film covered the last days of Hitler's life with a surprising amount of insight that never turned into actual sympathy.

You can argue that Chastain doesn't look a whole lot like Diana, or maybe that a British actress ought to play the part. But the astonishing diversity of the roles she's played this year suggests that she's capable of pretty much anything, even tackling a role this tricky and iconic. There's plenty of reason to have faith in this one.
