While we’re still only a few months into the new year, the 2026 movie schedule has already graced cinephiles with some intriguing titles. Among them is In the Blink of an Eye, a science fiction drama from Oscar-winning director Andrew Stanton. Co-leading the film are Rashida Jones and Daveed Diggs, who play a couple who experiences major life changes over a period of years. CinemaBlend recently spoke to both Diggs and Jones, who opened up about portraying a mixed-race couple and family dynamic in a sci-fi film like this one.

Stanton’s latest feature sees Jones and Diggs play Claire and Greg, respectively, who meet as grad students at a university and start up a relationship. The film then details the evolution of their bond, which soon transforms into a long-distance relationship and, in time, the pair marry and start a family. When I spoke to the previously mentioned actors, I noted the novelty of them being actors of color and playing top-billed roles in a sci-fi film. Diggs then proceeded to share an enthusiastic and thoughtful take:

The Hamilton alum also makes a great point in that Greg and Claire also represent modern love in the film, which also features two other storylines set in the past (which WALL-E influenced) and the distant future. While there are indeed great-Black led science fiction films, it still feels as though this is a genre that could use a tad more diversification. Like her co-star Rashida Jones also relished the chance to work on In the Blink of an Eye, and she got candid about what her state of mind was amidst filming:

Claire is portrayed as a very precise person, who prefers to have every detail of her life planned out. That desire for order, however, is challenged when she receives tragic news. In terms of her character’s reluctance to start a relationship with Greg, the Social Network alum explained why she found that so relatable:

Many of the best romantic comedies of all time have tackled the complex aspects of romantic relationships, though said dynamics can, of course, also be examined through the lenses of other genres. Every time a new season of Black Mirror arrives, fans are left with an assortment of endings that either get really emotional or extremely cryptic. Upon the most recent episodes debuting amid the 2025 TV schedule, I crowned “Common People” as the bleakest Black Mirror story in Charlie Brooker’s canon to date. However, after watching stars Rashida Jones and Tracee Ellis Ross piece together an even darker interpretation of that tale’s final act, I think I may have previously understated that point.

Amanda’s State Of Mind In “Common People’s” Sad Ending Raises Some Huge Questions

As part of the promotion of Black Mirror Season 7, Netflix invited a group of journalists to take part in a roundtable experience with some of the stars. For “Common People,” both Jones and Ross were on hand, with the discussion eventually prompting a keen question. The query centered around whether Amanda (Rashida Jones) asking her husband Mike (Chris O’Dowd) to end her life was a request made in a sound mental state.

CinemaBlend was on hand to hear Rashida Jones share these thoughts about that aforementioned moment:

Further explaining her views on how this Netflix subscription booster left the matter, the Parks and Recreation vet offered some more details from that scene that built her case of context. The garden setting, with a clear view of the woods, is a setting that Ms. Jones cites as a clear signal of Amanda’s desire to “see [herself] as a part of nature."

It’s a literal moment where our character sees the forest for the trees, as her Serenity setting is maxed out through the influence of Rivermind Lux. “Common People” co-star Tracee Ellis Ross later went on to say that she was up for watching the episode again, in order to answer this question a bit clearer.

That’s a decision that I definitely tip my hat toward, as this Black Mirror episode hit pretty close to home for me. After digging deeper into what we think happened to Chris O’Dowd’s Mike in those final moments, that feeling has only grown stronger.

Rashida Jones And Tracee Ellis Ross’ Discussion Of “Common People's" Ending Seals Mike's Fate

Admittedly, this segment of Black Mirror’s “Common People” makes it sound like we’ve seen something as beautifully heart-wrending as “Hotel Reverie’s” ending. Which is why the final moment with Chris O’Dowd closing a door, with a boxcutter in his hand, is so important to the final result.

The one silver lining I can pull from this dour parting shot is the fact that I got to watch Rashida Jones and Tracee Ellis Ross put it all together, in real time. However, before I share that moment, here are some further comments Jones provided to highlight Mike’s mental state after ending his wife’s life:

While this doesn't actually solidify the conclusion that Chris O’Dowd’s character takes his own life, this sentiment felt like a key that unlocked the door that allowed both Ms. Jones and Ms. Ross to get to that thought themselves. As a result, that gave us this moment of clarity and levity from the Black Mirror roundtables:

• Rashida Jones: "No! That is it! That's what he does!"
• Tracee Ellis Ross: "He livestreams his death."
• Rashida Jones: "He says ‘I'm doing a specialty thing later, ‘which is pretty dark."
• Tracee Ellis Ross: "Pre-tty dark."

Leave it to Black Mirror to put the devil in the details, just as we’ve seen in this “Common People” discussion. As Mike stands at the door for us to see one last time, his career as a humiliated Internet personality appears to be reaching its grand finale.

That makes me even more thankful that this was the first story in Season 7’s lineup, as I don’t think any of the ones that follow are any bleaker than what we’ve discussed here. Though, in terms of tears shed per moment, critical reactions to the Paul Giamatti episode "Eulogy" would suggest that title as the royal tearjerker.

Of course, that’s up for interpretation - and with all six episodes now streaming on Netflix, you can decide for yourself which is the most upsetting example of Charlie Brooker and his crew making us all feel like we need to step away from technology at once.

Warning: SPOILERS for Black Mirror Season 7, Episode 1 - “Common People,” are in play.

Netflix’s Black Mirror isn’t exactly the cheeriest show on the market. While creator Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology does have some upbeat episodes in its canon, it’s mostly known for shocking morality plays that highlight our modern preoccupations with technology. So for Season 7 to arrive on the 2025 TV schedule with a story so upsetting that it’s a good thing it was put into the debut slot is saying a lot.

Brace yourselves, especially if you thought “Beyond The Sea’s” chilling ending from Season 6 was a heartbreaker. Thanks to what I saw in Black Mirror Season 7’s premiere, “Common People,” the annoying habit of streaming providers raising their subscription rates has now been translated into a more terrifying and potentially deadly concept.

Common People May Be Black Mirror’s Bleakest Hour

The short, short version of Black Mirror’s Season 7 premiere sees Mike (Chris O’Dowd) and Amanda (Rashida Jones) colliding with the modern miracles of science. Thanks to a medical emergency that leaves Amanda with severe brain damage, “Common People” sees her loving husband engage in the services of the tech firm Rivermind.

Their promise is too good to pass up: a cloud-based implant that mimics the function of that area of the brain. As corporate rep Gaynor (Tracee Ellis Ross) describes in the segment of her pitch that closes the deal:

Since this is the same universe that has made us fear social media, robotics and video games, you can pretty much call where this story is going. However, that’s what makes “Common People” such a heartbreaking journey to undertake.

Each obstacle that raises the stakes is clearly going to see Amanda getting worse, and Mike becoming even more desperate. It gets to the point where a segment of the plot I thought was going to become a conflict, the couple's traditional anniversary trip to "The Juniper," didn't even pan out.

With each change to Rivermind’s services politely laid out in recurring consultations with Gaynor, the cost goes up - and the service’s offerings decrease. So instead of a bland blow-up over a routine that Amanda clearly isn't that into anymore, we something sadder.

The high cost of Rivermind is something that leads to a huge reason why I’m surprised this Netflix subscription booster was allowed to go as hard as it does. In re-reading that quote provided above, it dawned on me that one could easily draw the parallel to the Netflix story.

A fledgling by-mail rental service trying to break into the world of streaming, with free trials and affordable rates as the lure. Sure, it's not overtly built into the episode's story; but the connotation is heavily hinted at with the trivial example of subscription services scaling up prices while gating off features.

Black Mirror Season 7’s Preoccupation With Subscription Models Hits Hardest Here

While Season 6’s round of anthological storytelling naturally mocked its home platform’s business model, “Common People” uses that lens on a very essential field: the healthcare industry. Through all of this Black Mirror premiere’s pitfalls, Amanda’s quality of life declines.

One big example of that at work, which was shown off in Season 7's cryptic trailer, sees Rashida Jones’ character eventually finds herself becoming an advertising platform. Momentary, unpredictable blackouts see Amanda lose time, in which she shills everything from coffee to religious family counseling.

If she wants to have anything resembling a normal life, she needs to upgrade from Rivermind Common (the OG plan) to the ad-free/extended coverage tier known as Rivermind Plus. That leads Mike to consider increasingly desperate means to pay for this medical “miracle,” which goes in a direction that is reminiscent of Black Mirror's first season reality TV sendup "Fifteen Million Merits."

And that's before we even get to the horror that is Rivermind Lux! I'll let you discover the perils of that plan on your own, but I will recommend you pause the medical ad parody that's included in the pitch. You need to read that fine print carefully, as it's a subtle, much needed laugh in the middle of a seriously dour affair.

That example probably has you recalling Netflix’s controversial ‘Basic Tier’ removal. Even the gripes connected to Amazon Prime’s introduction of ads for subscribers who didn't even change their plan are reflected in a moment of anger for Chris O'Dowd, as Michael criticizes a plan change for not keeping in mind those patrons who helped build Rivermind's foundation.

In a way similar to how Season 6’s “Joan is Awful” criticized Netflix’s production and release methods, “Common People” takes the rising cost of entertainment and applies that methodology to a person’s health. I don’t know about you, but as a neurodivergent Type 1 diabetic, I would hate for my quality of life to be impeded by compulsory ad breaks when I try to take my meds.

A comparatively trivial matter has been given a very real face in Black Mirror’s Season 7 premiere. Sadly, while this round of speculative fiction is still not a commonplace reality, as you'll see in this article from IEEE Spectrum, writers Charlie Brooker & Bisha K. Ali are closer to the truth than most would realize.

At its heart, “Common People” is a classic example of how Charlie Brooker and his writers have continued to break our hearts through fiction, so that it does not easily become fact. So having this be the premiere and “USS Callister Into Infinity” serve as the finale makes emotional sense.

With a trio of powerful performances from Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd and Tracee Ellis Ross, the subject matter walks a line between humor and heartbreak - until the latter becomes too overwhelming to ignore. In a world where being “common” becomes a disadvantage, everything feels a bit crueler and colder.

But you don’t need to take my word for it, as all six episodes of Black Mirror's Season 7 are now streaming on Netflix - no matter what tier you’re subscribed to. And get used to those subscription price jabs, as they're a running thread throughout this season.

Back when Parks and Recreation was still on, there was an iconic image taken of Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn, Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones. They looked like they were in a ‘90s legal procedural, and it was titled “Philly Justice.” Now, Poehler has shared more details about this fake show they actually filmed an episode of, and fans are hilariously demanding that this long-lost piece of work from the Parks and Rec cast be released.

Amy Poehler Broke Down All The Work That Went Into Making Philly Justice

Over the years, there have been jokes about Philly Justice. However, recently, Amy Poehler talked about it with Rashida Jones, and confirmed that they filmed an episode! While chatting on her podcast Good Hang, Poehler started her explanation of this goofy idea by saying:

Rashida Jones then chimed in to note that the writers for Parks and Rec took time off writing one of the best sitcoms ever to write an episode of Philly Justice. Honestly, that’s iconic behavior. And to that point, the podcast host revealed just how much work went into this little fake show, saying:

To quote Rashida Jones, “Dude, really!?!” I desperately need to see this, especially since the Leslie Knope actress went on to say that it’s “so good” while revealing some juicy plot details.

Poehler said a producer on Parks sent her the episode and revealed that Jones plays a lawyer named Angie Martinez. She also explained that she thinks the Ann Perkins actress’s character was in love with Kathryn Hahn’s character too, revealing they did "kiss at some point."

This sounds remarkable. Not only does it feature some of the incredible regular cast, but it also highlights two of Parks and Rec’s finest guest stars. So, I agree with all the fans who are demanding that this be released.

Now, The Fans Are Demanding To See Philly Justice

Even though a Parks and Rec revival seems unlikely, there is a rewatch podcast, the cast reunited in 2020 for a special, and they frequently chat about their love for the show. However, while all that’s fine and dandy, I think the world needs Philly Justice.

Sadly, we don’t know if or when it will be released. However, you can keep listening to Amy Peohler’s podcast Good Hang, and you can see Rashida Jones in Black Mirror when it premieres Season 7 on the 2025 TV schedule. Plus, you can always go back and re-watch Parks and Rec with a Peacock subscription while fantasizing about this hilarious fake show, Philly Justice.

When I review the long list of shows canceled in 2024, it's hard to comprehend just how many series don't get to continue. Whether budget cuts, leaving room for new content, or the Hollywood strikes have factored into TV shows getting the ax, the cancellations keep on coming. Now, with 2024 just days away from being over, another one-season show from the streaming schedule is getting the ax on Apple TV+.

While 2024 is almost over, canceling streaming shows certainly isn’t, as Screen Daily confirmed the new Apple TV+ series Sunny is on the chopping block. Along with Max’s Tokyo Vice (which got canceled by the streamer in June after two seasons), the black comedy series was considered the second US series shot in Japan that got axed in recent months.

Based on Colin O'Sullivan’s novel The Dark Manuel, Sunny premiered in July and starred The Office’s Rashida Jones as a woman living in futuristic Japan whose husband and son mysteriously disappeared in a plane crash. Thanks to her husband’s electronics company, she’s given “consolidation” in the form of a robot, Sunny, who shares a bond with her and helps her discover what happened to her family.

Now, sadly, after ten episodes that ended with a cliffhanger, the Apple TV+ series won’t return for Season 2.

Sunny isn't the only series on Apple TV+ that got canceled this year. The streaming service quietly canceled two shows in May -- British rom-com Still Up and the sci-fi thriller Constellation. The American comedy series The Big Prize Machine also only survived one season despite Fresh Rotten Tomato scores. Even the fantasy-adventure show Time Bandits starring Lisa Kudrow didn’t make it past its first season. Like Netflix, which loves to cancel shows after one season, Apple TV+ has also only given many of its series one chance before saying goodbye forever.

While it appears that Apple TV+ has been quick to get rid of many well-received shows, plenty of big series on the streamer have been renewed this year too.

For example, the book-to-screen adaptation ofThe Last Thing He Told Me plans to return for Season 2.

There’s also the dystopian series Silo which has been renewed for not just Season 3 but Season 4 as well! Bill Lawrence's Shrinking and Bad Monkey also got renewed this year. And we can’t forget about one of Apple TV+'s best shows Palm Royale, which is getting a second season treatment.

However, it's still a real bummer to think about all the shows, including Sunny, that don't get this kind of chance to grow.

Nevertheless, you can always go back and rewatch Season 1 with an Apple TV+ subscription before moving on to the other good content the platform has to offer.

At this point, The Office is basically guaranteed to go down in history as not only one of the best sitcoms of all time, but also as one of the comedies that people love to rewatch and as a series that made a number of actors famous because of their roles on the nine-season hit.

Speaking of which, many of the actors we know and love from the ever-popular mockumentary about the (frequently wacky) employees at the Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin paper company have starred (or popped up memorably) in a number of other movies and shows both before, during and after their time on the NBC classic. So let’s take a look at what else you can watch the cast of The Office in!

Foxcatcher

Even though Steve Carell was known as a comedic actor before he led The Office cast as the sometimes good at his job Michael Scott, it was definitely his role on the comedy that propelled him to new heights and led to opportunities for him to branch out. One such case of that was his creepy starring turn in the drama Foxcatcher, an acclaimed biographical sports thriller that saw him nominated for a Best Actor Oscar in 2015.

Inside Out

It seems that 2015 was a good year for The Office cast, as this was when the Pixar mega-hit Inside Out was released, starring the voice of Phyllis Smith as Sadness. The animated film, of course, followed the personified emotions of a young girl going through a tough time, and was popular enough to get a sequel in 2024.

Away We Go

Of all The Office characters, it’s possible that John Krasinski’s Jim Halpert is the most beloved, and the actor rode that wave into 2009’s romantic road trip film Away We Go. The comedy-drama is about a couple in their early 30s trying to decide where to settle before the birth of their first child, and really should be sought out if you haven’t seen it yet.

Blades Of Glory

I know what you’re thinking, What about Pam? Well, Jenna Fischer’s Pam Beesly Halpert was, many think, the heart of the sitcom, and the actress became the heart of the ice-skating comedy Blades of Glory in 2007.

The Mindy Project

While Kelly Kapoor is one of the most memorably ridiculous staffers at Dunder Mifflin, the same can’t (totally) be said for Mindy Kaling’s OB/GYN, Mindy Lahiri, in The Mindy Project. The doctor may be analytical, friendly and good at her job, but she’s also blunt and shallow, making her fun to watch.

Bridesmaids

Because of the number of hilarious performances from the ensemble cast of the one-liner-filled comedy, Bridesmaids, you might have forgotten that Ellie Kemper (that’s receptionist Erin Hannon to you) starred in the somewhat raunchy 2011 hit as Becca, a newlywed member of the bridal party who loses some of her naivete because of the antics of the assembled group.

Parks And Recreation

Did you forget about Karen Filippelli? You know, Jim’s girlfriend who quickly realized that he was in love with Pam once they were all working together? Well, Rashida Jones was a much bigger part of Parks and Recreation, where her nurse, Anne Perkins, was a (mostly) reasonable member of the wacky ensemble.

Super

There probably aren’t a lot of us who watched the NBC workplace sitcom and envisioned any of the characters as superheroes, which is part of the point to Dwight Schrute actor Rainn Wilson taking on his reading role in Super. The dark comedy follows a short order cook who becomes a masked vigilante, and should be experienced at least once.

The Hangover

A hit comedy you’ve almost definitely seen at least once is 2009’s The Hangover, starring Ed Helms, a.k.a. Andy Bernard. Actually, no one would be surprised if you’ve seen this movie plus its two sequels multiple times.

This Is The End

Apocalyptic horror comedies don’t come around all that often, and when they do they’re rarely as insane as This Is The End. The 2013 film stars a number of notable famous folks playing versions of themselves who try to survive the Biblical event, including Darryl Philbin’s portrayer, Craig Robinson.

Leatherheads

John Krasinski also lent his talents to the George Clooney-directed, 1925-set football comedy, Leatherheads. It might not have been a big hit, but it definitely let fans see more of Krasinski’s big-screen potential early on.

Fresh Off The Boat

It hasn’t been uncommon for some of the cast to pop up on other popular shows, and that’s what we saw with Angela Kinsey (yup, she played Dwight’s eventual boo Angela) when it came to the ABC family comedy Fresh Off the Boat. Kinsey guest starred in a handful of episodes across Seasons 4 and 5 as Amy Chestnut, a nemesis for Jessica Huang.

The Lost City

It’s a bit of a wonder that Oscar managed to continue working at Dunder Mifflin Scranton, considering how professional and free of foolishness he was. But, his portrayer, Oscar Nuñez, did play an important oddball in 2022’s The Lost City, and to hilarious effect.

The Morning Show

Steve Carell continued to take on more dramatic roles after leaving The Office behind, and he kept his streak going by playing the disgraced former co-host for the first two seasons of the titular show that’s the focus of this Apple TV+ series.

The Giant Mechanical Man

While none of our beloved Office cast members have led what will come to be known as one of the best romantic comedies of all time just yet, Jenna Fischer did star in a lovely little rom-com called The Giant Mechanical Man, where she plays a struggling zoo worker who falls for a financially strapped street performer.

Family Switch

Sometimes you just need a good, fun family movie, and Ed Helms helped give us one with Family Switch. The movie, which you can watch with your Netflix subscription, gets its Freaky Friday on by having two parents (and the family dog) swap bodies with their two teens (and the baby of the family).

Galaxy Quest

Unfortunately, sci-fi and comedy simply don’t overlap that much, because when they do we end up with wondrous movies like Galaxy Quest. This now classic features Rainn Wilson as one of the decent, octopus-like Thermians, who juuuuust manage to pose as human.

Gone Baby Gone

Though she’d been a working actor for many years, most people really got to know about Amy Ryan because of her Oscar-nominated role in 2007’s Gone Baby Gone as the mother of a missing girl; a role that was quite different from her sweet Holly Flax.

The Bold Type

It’s a bad idea to get involved with your boss; that is, if your boss is like the domineering Jan Levinson, as played by Melora Hardin. However, if your boss is tough but fair and an all-around good human like The Bold Type’s Jacqueline Carlyle, then maybe things won’t go as badly for you as they did for Michael.

Silicon Valley

While Zach Woods brought even more weirdness to The Office as Gabe Woods for Seasons 6-9, he was more of a secure and stabilizing presence for the tech team on HBO’s comedy, Silicon Valley.

Ocean’s Eight

The Mindy Project hasn’t been the only way to watch Mindy Kaling outside of Scranton. In 2018 she branched out by starring as jeweler Amita in the crime comedy Ocean’s Eight, as one of the so-named group with a plan for a big jewelry heist.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Naive, nice and endlessly hopeful seems to be a specialty of Ellie Kemper. She added another such character to the one from Bridesmaids and The Office when she took on the role of former underground (literally) doomsday cult member Kimmy Schmidt as she attempted to make a life for herself in New York City after being rescued. You can watch her in all four seasons and one interactive movie on one of the best streaming services, Netflix.

The Blacklist

Anyone who enjoyed James Spader as the intimidating and mysterious Robert California, odd though he was, would probably have no problem seeing the actor as, well…mysterious, intimidating and charming criminal mastermind/FBI informant/probable sociopath, Raymond “Red” Reddington for 10 seasons of the NBC drama, The Blacklist, which wrapped its long run in 2023.

The Wire

The Wire is an amazing drama that is one of the TV shows that actually ended well, and it also made Idris Elba a household name because of his long-running role as smooth criminal Stringer Bell. Were it not for this series, we might not have gotten him as Michael’s strict (and eventually antagonistic) boss who had quite an effect on the ladies, Charles Miner. FYI, you can also see Amy Ryan in this show, beginning in Season 2.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Few fans of our favorite mockumentary could have guessed that there would be a time when superhero fans around the world would call for John Krasinski (he of the flippy Jim haircut and consistent bemused looks to the camera) to portray Marvel icon Mister Fantastic, a.k.a. Reed Richards. Well, Disney finally gave them their wish in a wildly short-lived fashion when he appeared as a version of the Fantastic Four leader in 2022’s multiverse-hopping Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

Six Feet Under

Yet another 2000s HBO drama has delivered another way to see someone from The Office. One of the rare family shows that’s about death in a real way, Six Feet Under helped Rainn Wilson show the world a happier, though still incredibly peculiar, character in mortuary intern Arthur Martin during Season 3.

Hot Tub Time Machine

One of the stranger time travel movies in recent memory can easily be said to be Hot Tub Time Machine, where our time travelers do, indeed, trip through time via an energy drink-powered hot tub. In both this classic comedy and its sequel, you can watch Craig Robinson experience the many benefits and dangers of time travel.

The Daily Show

A number of correspondents have passed by the news desk on Comedy Central’s politically aware pop culture program, The Daily Show. From 2002-2006, Ed Helms lent his talents to segments like Digital Watch, We Love Showbiz and This Week in God. The added bonus for you? This series launched Steve Carell’s early career, as he was also a correspondent from 1999 through 2005, and has returned several times since then as a guest.

Inglourious Basterds

We’ve already come upon some surprising portrayals from our wild and wacky Office workers, and fans were treated to another one with the release of Quentin Tarantino’s Academy Award-nominated Inglourious Basterds in 2009. While B.J. Novak’s Smithson "Little Man" Utivich was simply a loyal soldier and accomplished smart-alek, the environment he thrived in was much more stressful than anything Ryan could have survived.

Upload

Remember that dutiful movie and TV viewers can easily spot one of the Scranton denizens as they pop up in any number of other well-known projects. However, when Creed Bratton (yes, that Creed) appeared in a Season 1 episode of Amazon Prime’s Upload, he probably delivered the briefest, most hilariously gruesome guest star spot of them all.

Doctor Who

If there’s any one show in the history of TV shows that continues to provide us with a near-endless stream of cameos and guest starring roles from up-and-comers, it would be Doctor Who and its 60-year, 40-season history. And, we can actually watch a whole season (the fourth modern one) plus six specials of Catherine Tate (Nellie Bertram, Seasons 7-9) as The Doctor’s companion, Donna Noble.

The White Lotus

Last but not least, we take you to The White Lotus. This Emmy-winning HBO (Should we all just stick with HBO if we want to see our Office mates?) satire has already given us innumerable memorable characters and performances, and Season 1 saw Jake Lacy (who played Pete “New Jim” Miller in Season 9) take on the role of the easily unlikable, arrogant rich guy Shane Patton.

As you can see, The Office cast has thrived outside of the comedy that made so many of them famous!

Whether you are a fan of The Office or not, there is no denying the show is a trendsetter and one of the best sitcoms. Following its success, many workplace mockumentaries were created, including Parks and Recreation, Superstore, and Abbott Elementary. However, the timeless nature and longevity of the U.S. version of The Office is much in part due to its hilarious cast of actors, and specifically Steve Carell’s performance as the very quotable Michael Scott, according to Rashida Jones.

Before she was a main cast member of Parks and Rec, Jones was an Office regular for Season 3 and appeared in a handful of episodes after that. She was recently on The Jess Cagle Show and was asked if she had a favorite memory from her time on The Office. The I Love You, Man actress immediately responded with a Steve Carell moment from her first day of filming, and it reveals just how comedically talented the 40-Year-Old Virgin actor is:

This comes as no surprise given the Despicable Me star was nominated 6 years in a row for his portrayal of Michael Scott at both the Emmys and Golden Globe awards. I always thought his character was pretty eccentric already, always pushing the limits of controversy and cringe. But now that I know the final cut was only 10% of Carell’s outrageous behavior as Scott, I’m gonna need to see all of the footage that didn’t make the cut.

The Office was not the only time Carell and Jones collaborated. The Celeste and Jesse Forever actress produced and starred in the 2016 beloved sitcom Angie Tribeca, which was created by Steve Carell and his wife Nancy. The show ran for 4 seasons before it was canceled by TBS. However, it is still one of Jones’ best performances, and it can be watched with a Max subscription. 

The Social Network actress is not the only former Office co-star to rave about Carell’s acting chops. The actors behind Michael Scott and Jim Halpert (AKA Carell and John Krasinski) were recently reunited for the new kids' movie IF, which received mixed to positive reviews and was released in May on the 2024 movie schedule. The Big Short actor still blew Krasinski away all these years later, even after working together on The Office for seven seasons. 

Fans of The Office can hold out hope for more potential cast reunions given Peacock has a spinoff in the works. Though we most likely won’t see Carell reprise his role as Michael Scott given what we know so far about the plot, it is not entirely out of the question for other characters to make a surprise cameo given members of the cast have expressed their potential interest in a spinoff. If that happens, I’ll let you guys know “ASAP as possible.” Until then, we will have to settle for binge-ing old episodes of The Office with a Peacock subscription.

Jennifer Aniston has become a significant actress in the last couple of decades, specifically for her time as Rachel Greene in the Friends cast and many other great movie and TV roles. But Aniston also comes from Hollywood royalty, as her father was John Aniston, who was on the classic soap opera Days Of Our Lives for 37 years.

Mamie Gummer

With a mother like Meryl Streep, it's no surprise that Mamie Gummer went into acting. Streep, known for many famous roles, was married to Don Gummer for several decades and had a few children with him, including Mamie Gummer. The actress has starred in the CW series Emily Owens, M.D., and appeared in films like Side Effects, Cake, and more. 

Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones is the daughter of the famous musician Quincy Jones. Considered a legend in the music industry, Jones was a significant influence and worked with several prominent musicians, such as Frank Sinatra and Count Basie. Rashida Jones  is known for numerous acting roles, including her part in the Parks and Recreation cast as Ann Perkins.

Riley Keough is an actress who has appeared in movies like The Runaways, Magic Mike, Mad Max: Fury Road, and more. She is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, who was the daughter of Elvis Presley. 

Liv Tyler

Liv Tyler is a well-known actress for her roles in movies like Heavy, Armageddon, Ad Astra, Wilding, and more, as well as the Lord of the Rings movies. But you might not know that Tyler is the biological daughter of Steven Tyler, the frontman of the famous band Aerosmith. 

Lily-Rose Depp

The actress is the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. Lily-Rose Depp made a name for herself in 2023 with her starring role in The Idol cast on HBO. Depp has also appeared in other movies and roles, such as Tusk and A Faithful Man. 

Tracee Ellis Ross

While many know Tracee Ellis Ross as one of the main stars of the hit family show black-ish, Ross is the daughter of another famous face in Hollywood – Diana Ross, a legendary singer from the 1970s and beyond. Ross can sing like her mother, too, and recorded an album for the film The High Note in 2020.

Bryce Dallas Howard

Bryce Dallas Howard is known for many incredible movies and TV shows. She'll even be in the 2024 release of Argylle on Apple TV+ and is a well-known actress. However, her father, Ron Howard, began in Hollywood first and is a renowned director. Some of his biggest movies that he's directed include Willow, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and Frost/Nixon.

Jessica Capshaw

Jessica Capshaw is primarily known for her role in the TV shows The Practice and Grey's Anatomy, which has gone on for many years. However, Capshaw is also the daughter of actress Kate Capshaw, whom you might know from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, among other films. Jessica Capshaw is also the step-daughter of a famous Hollywood director you may have heard of – Steven Spielberg.

Jasmine Cephas Jones

Jasmine Cephas Jones earned much acclaim for her roles in the Hamilton cast and went on to star in the Starz series Blindspotting, but her father, Ron Cephas Jones, had been in Hollywood for far longer. While he has numerous movie and TV credits to his name, you may known him in recent years from his part among the This Is Us cast before he sadly passed away in August 2023. 

Lily Collins

Lily Collins is known for her starring role in the Emily in Paris cast and several other movies like The Blind Side and Mirror Mirror. Her father, Phil Collins, is a well-known musician and was the lead singer and drummer of the band Genesis. 

Jack Quaid

I knew who Jack Quad was before I knew who Dennis Quaid was, thanks to the young actor being in The Hunger Games franchise and then in one of the best Amazon TV shows, The Boys. His father, Dennis Quaid, has been in Hollywood for many years. Dennis Quaid's list of films include The Parent Trap, Breaking Away, Vantage Point, and more. Jack Quaid's mother is Meg Ryan, an actress known for her great romantic comedies and hilarious comedic timing. 

Harley Quinn Smith

Harley Quinn Smith is a young actress on this list who has appeared in movies such as Tusk and Yoga Hosers. Her father is Kevin Smith, a filmmaker who has made movies like Clerks, Mallrats, and more. He also directed both Tusk and Yoga Hosers. 

Laura Dern

Laura Dern is the daughter of Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd. Bruce Dern has appeared in movies like Nebraska, Coming Home, and more, and Diane Ladd also appeared in films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, Rambling Rose, and more. Ladd is the recipient of three Academy Awards. 

Allison Williams

Allison Williams has appeared in the show Girls and horror movies like the Jordan Peele-directed film Get Out and M3GAN. She is the daughter of Brian Williams, a famous news correspondent for NBC Nightly News. 

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson is a well-known actress who has appeared in movies like Desert Blue, Almost Famous, Bride Wars, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, and more. Her mother is Goldie Hawn, and her biological father is Bill Hudson. Based on the post she shared honoring Kurt Russell -- her mother's long-time partner -- on Father's Day in 2022, it seems she has a very close family relationship with him. 

Liza Minnelli

In early 1998, Ben Affleck became one of the biggest stars in Hollywood after he and Matt Damon won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting. Matt Damon

As mentioned, Matt Damon took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting in 1998. The movie, of course, also featured his Academy Award-worthy performance as a troubled young genius. Paul Rudd 

Paul Rudd not only starred in one of the best Marvel movies such as Ant-Man, he was also one the writers given credit for its screenplay (alongside Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, and Adam McKay). But that wasn’t his first or last script, as Rudd contributed to Role Models and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Ethan Hawke 

Throughout his career, Ethan Hawke has starred in movies like Reality Bites, Boyhood, First Reformed and The Black Phone, among many others. Steve Coogan 

Steve Coogan is famous for his performances in the Night at the Museum movies, Tropic Thunder, 24 Hour Party People, and The Trip, but he’s also a talented writer. Over the years, Coogan has written movies like Philomena, The Lost King, The Parole Officer and Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.

Sarah Polley 

After making a name for herself as an actress with roles in movies like Go, The Weight of Water and the underrated Dawn of the Dead remake, Sarah Polley turned her jumped into the writer/director seat. Developed by Justified creator Graham Yost and based on a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey, this new Apple TV+ original series is a dystopian tale of a community living in the titular underground chamber (the origins of which remain unknown) in order to shelter themselves from the uninhabitable Earth outside (the accuracy of which is uncertain in the eyes of some). Rebecca Ferguson

In addition to leading the Silo cast, Rebecca Ferguson serves as executive producer — the first time she has held this position for a TV series and, not to mention, her first time starring on a TV series since Lifetime’s The Red Tent, on which she appeared a year after playing Queen Elizabeth on Starz’s 2013 miniseries, The White Queen. The last time Avi Nash starred on a post-apocalyptic TV series was when he joined AMC’s The Walking Dead cast from Season 8 to Season 10 as Siddiq. Before then, he made his feature film debut opposite Patricia Clarkson and Sir Ben Kingsley in the 2014 dramedy Learning to Drive, had a small role opposite Jason Biggs in the 2016 comedy Amateur Night, and that same year played a young Barack Obama’s college buddy, Saleem, in the Netflix original biopic, Barry. Nash also appeared in a couple episodes of Silicon Valley and more recently starred in the Covid-era ensemble comedy, There There.

Common

Grammy-winning rap artist Lonnie Rashid Lynn (better known as Common) has portrayed himself a number of times onscreen — such as in movies like Ocean’s Eight and Girls Trip and TV shows like The Simpsons. However, he also gained a reputation for his genuine talent in portraying other, complex characters — such as one of the John Wick movies’ most memorable adversaries, Cassian, or Elam Ferguson, an emancipated slave who becomes the chief of the railroad police, on AMC’s Hell on Wheels. He also played civil rights leader James Bevel in 2015’s Selma — the film that also earned him and John Legend Oscars for their original song, “Glory.”

David Oyelowo

Speaking of Selma, portraying Martin Luther King Jr. in Ava DuVernay’s biopic (which deserved an Oscar nomination) is what David Oyelowo is best known to many for. Previously, the English actor earned acclaim for his performances in Oscar favorites like 2005’s The Last King of Scotland, 2011’s The Help, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and Lee Daniels’ The Butler, to name a few. Since then, his most notable credits have included the Netflix original sci-fi flick The Cloverfield Paradox; the 2018 dark comedy, Gringo; Doug Liman’s adaptation of the sci-fi novel, Chaos Walking; and the 2022 whodunit, See How They Run.

Harriet Walter

Dame Harriet Walter is a highly acclaimed veteran actress with many award nominations to show for it — including three Emmy nominations for her guest appearances on HBO’s Succession and the hit Apple TV+ original series, Ted Lasso. Some of her most notable big screen credits include the 1995 Jane Austen adaptation, Sense and Sensibility; J.J. Abrams’ 2025 revival of the Star Wars movies, The Force Awakens; the 2019 Elton John biopic, Rocketman, and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel. Audiences may also recognize her from the small screen as Lady Shackleton on Downton Abbey, Clemmie Churchill from Netflix’s hit historical drama, The Crown; or as Dasha on Killing Eve.

Like some of his fellow Silo cast members, Chinaza Uche also previously racked up a post-apocalyptic title on his resume in the form of an episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, in Season 6. Before then, he appeared in a 2013 movie alongside The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira called Mother of George, shared the screen with Oscar winner Meryl Streep in 2015’s Rikki and the Flash, and made guest appearances in other series like Blue Bloods and The Blacklist. He could more recently be seen playing Henry in Apple TV+’s biographiccal period drama, Dickinson, and starring in writer and director Zach Braff’s moving drama, A Good Person.

Tim Robbins

Tim Robbins also has a few apocalyptic titles under his belt — namely Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and another literary adaptation about a community mysteriously forced underground called City of Ember. Of course, the Academy Award winner (for 2003’s Mystic River) has led a career defined by a variety of different genres and themes — such as classic sports movies like Bull Durham, Stephen King adaptations like The Shawshank Redemption and Season 2 of the Hulu original horror TV show, Castle Rock, and twisted psychological thrillers like Jacob’s Ladder. Robbins was also in classics like 1986’s Top Gun, 2000’s High Fidelity, and 2006’s Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

The Galentine’s Day tradition continues as Rashida Jones and her Parks and Rec pals got together once again to celebrate the Valentine’s Day adjacent, friendship-forward holiday. The actress behind Ann Perkins posted a lovely little reunion photo of her, Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza and Kathryn Hahn as they celebrated Galentine’s Day, and it’s the cutest thing ever. 

Ever since Season 2 Episode 16 of Parks and Rec aired, February 13 has been known to many as the beloved holiday Galentine’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate your gal pals and friendship, and the ladies of the classic NBC comedy continue to reunite on the day before Valentine’s Day, even all these year’s after the show ended, as Rashida Jones posted their reunion on her Instagram. 

I absolutely love that these gals get together to celebrate Galentine’s Day year after year. Following the show ending in 2015, the cast has remained very close. Amy Poehler and Aubrey Plaza performed together on SNL as Leslie and April, respectively, on Weekend Update. The whole cast got together virtually for an episode during the pandemic, and there’s a group chat that remains active all these years later that includes the whole Parks and Rec cast. 

However, despite all these moments being adorable, the annual Galentine’s Day dinner with these four actresses is my favorite thing. Seeing Ann Perkins, Leslie Knope, April Ludgate and Jen Barkley get together to celebrate friendship is so wholesome, and it reminds us every year just how stellar these ladies were together on Parks and Rec. 

This is not the first time Jones, Poehler, Hahn and Plaza have gotten together to celebrate the Parks and Rec-inspired holiday. Back in 2018, the Ann Perkins actress posted a photo of the four of them together, which is very similar to the one from this year. Clearly, this holiday is something they all love, and getting all the gals together has become their Galentine’s Day tradition. 

Many inside jokes from Parks and Rec as well as stories from some of the show’s best episodes have made their way into the zeitgeist. For example, “Treat yo self,” can be heard all over the place, and Galentine’s Day has become a well-known holiday, not just a bit from Season 2, showing the impact this show has had on its viewers. 

What makes this reunion even sweeter is seeing all the big projects these actresses have gone onto. Kathryn Hahn is making a splash in the industry between her character Agatha Harkness in the MCU and her role in Glass Onion. Aubrey Plaza turned heads with her performances in The White Lotus and Emily the Criminal. Meanwhile, Amy Poehler is getting ready to voice Joy again in Inside Out 2, and Rashida Jones has a few projects in development as well. 

So, even though it’s currently Valentine’s Day, it’s never too late to celebrate Galentine’s Day like these lovely ladies did, and take a moment to appreciate all the wonderful gal pals in your life. On Memorial Day weekend, John Krasinski became a bonafide blockbuster moviemaker with the rousing box office success of A Quiet Place Part II. Once best known for his affable lead performance as Jim Halpert on NBC's rewatch-friendly The Office, the actor-turned-director turned into an unexpected genre storyteller with two successful franchise films under his belt. While it's safe to say that Krasinski worked his way up to the Hollywood ladder from his once-humble workplace comedy beginnings, the actor isn't the only Office cast member to jump behind the camera as a feature filmmaker.

Indeed, John Krasinski's former co-workers, including Jenna Fischer, Rashida Jones, and soon B.J. Novak, have also made the leap into moviemaking, though some found more success than others. Here are The Office actors who have directed their own movies.

John Krasinski (A Quiet Place And A Quiet Place Part II)

Admittedly, it's a bit strange that John Krasinski, the winsome up-and-coming actor who endeared TV lovers everywhere with Jim Halpert's goofy charm in NBC's The Office, has become one of the most impressive horror-blockbuster directors in recent memory. Nevertheless, Krasinski proved himself to be a dynamic triple threat — a capable actor/writer/director in nearly equal measure — with 2018's surprisingly suspense-laden A Quiet Place, an unnerving, nicely-refrained creature feature/sci-fi family drama with a taut, tense allegory for the dangers of parenthood in an uncertain world.

While John Krasinski's directorial influences — whether it's Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, or Ridley Scott — are easy to spot, this purposefully restrained, carefully helmed third feature demonstrated an actor-turned-director with unsuspecting chops as a visual storyteller — something that wasn't apparent with his overambitious first film, an adaptation of David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, nor his maudlin, self-conscious sophomore movie, The Hollars. While Krasinski owes too many debts to these aforementioned auteurs to stand on his own, he took the right lessons from his peers, which is also true of A Quiet Place Part II. Though it lacks the surprise factor and the tight (if flawed) screenplay of his previous movie, Krasinski's fourth film showcases a director who continues to adapt as a promising Hollywood hotshot.

Jenna Fischer (LolliLove)

In 2004, only a year before The Office premiered, Jenna Fischer made her own farcical mockumentary with LolliLove, an extremely low-rent hour-long feature centered around a misguided Californian couple, played by Fischer and then-husband James Gunn as fictionalized versions of themselves, who attempt to make a difference in the lives of the homeless by handing out lollipops with cherry affirmations and original artwork.

Shot on a shoe-string budget of $1,500, which is a staple of its distributor, Troma Entertainment (Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman provides a cameo), this extremely (and purposefully) modest satire is clever in its concept and personal in its approach, notably with the majority of this indie being shot in Jenna Fischer and James Gunn's real-life house. It also features real-life home videos and interactions that blur the line between fiction and reality. While the movie itself is a bit shapeless and patchy in its approach, the improvisational dialogue and the sharp wits of its leads push the biting social commentary on self-important, out-of-touch elites to chuckle-friendly success.

Alas, LolliLove became a one-and-done experience for its lead actress/writer/director. While Jenna Fischer earned praise for her debut, the intensive micro-budget filmmaking process soured the actress from directing again, detailing the process as "painful" in a candid interview. Therefore, while the TV star would find commercial success following The Office's success, Fischer opted to stay in front of the camera in the years to follow.

While he was often the source of incessant, demeaning ridicule under Michael Scott's petulant leadership in the role of mild-mannered sad sack Toby Flenderson, in truth, Paul Lieberstein was often the one who called the shots on The Office. Whether as a producer, writer, or director, Lieberstein is — at least partly — responsible for shaping The Office into the lovable show that it is today. In fact, prior to this acting debut, Lieberstein focused his efforts entirely behind the camera, resulting in two Emmy wins. Writing/directing was his focus; acting came incidentally.

Therefore, it's not surprising that Paul Lieberstein eventually cashed in on The Office's long-standing goodwill to make his own film. That said, it's odd to see Lieberstein at the forefront of Song of Back and Neck — the actor's leading man debut in addition to his feature screenwriting and directorial debut.

Centered around an awkwardly deferential yes-man, played by our first-time filmmaker (surprise surprise), who suffers gruelingly intense back pain in his dissatisfied life, Song of Back and Neck doesn't seek to reinvent the wheel, particularly when it comes to quirky dramedies based around nebby low-men who can't stand up for themselves — quite literally, in this case. Yet, ironically, for a film about a guy in distressing, debilitating pain, there's a cute, comfortable charm to Paul Lieberstein's feature directorial debut.

Aided by the sharp talents of the actor-writer-director's co-stars, including Rosemarie DeWitt, Robert Pine, and fellow Office co-workers, Clark Duke and Paul Feig (the latter in a rare acting-only turn), Paul Lieberstein's amiable (if unadventurous) movie is too unruly to really come together in a lasting fashion — which is rather unfortunate for a movie about a man finding his core center. That said, this undemanding, unassuming directorial debut is unfittingly a pain-free watch that showcases his wry, winsome wit.

Rashida Jones (Quincy)

Paired alongside Alan Hicks, Rashida Jones opted to go close to home with her feature directorial debut, Quincy, Netflix's emotional, celebratory, and appropriately soulful examination at her unreserved father, along with the decades-spanning career and long-withstanding legacy behind one of the most accomplished musical legends of the 20th century. Painting an intimate, wistful, and warmly compassionate portrait of the renowned composer's consistently active — but increasingly frail — 80s, while also providing an expansive and engaging dedication to one of the most persistently evolving personalities of our times, it's safe to say that Quincy favors a loving look at the long-reaching resume of this workaholic talent. So much so that one wonders if the famous daughter's lens provides too delicate a touch on this artist's personal troubles.

But what often prevents Quincy from becoming outright hagiography is the subject's own candidness. While Quincy Jones is never quite as conversational as he is in that extraordinary Vulture interview, the award-winning musician is open and vulnerable about his bluesy feelings about aging, reflecting with tender remorse as his friends and colleagues "fall like flies," all while carrying a twinkle of pride in his eyes as he sees his children, grandchildren, collaborators, and legions of fans go on to achieve greatness through his immeasurable impact to the industry. It's not the definitive Quincy Jones documentary, but it's a touching tribute to one of the greatest musicians on the planet.

Melora Hardin (You)

Also known as You: A Love Story, Melora Hardin's emotionally explorative and intensely yearning directorial debut, You, follows a decade-spanning narrative centered around a grief-stricken father (Gildart Jackson, Hardin's real-life husband who wrote the script) who struggles to raise his daughter alone following the tragic death of his beloved spouse (Hardin). Produced by the husband-wife couple at the film's center, You is so clearly a personal, passionate project for its wedded actors-filmmakers. It's a shame, then, that Hardin's romantic melodrama lacks the stirring dramatic urgency and the rich sense of emotional catharsis that compelled them to make this warmly intimate movie.

Co-starring Brenda Strong and Allison Mack (pre ... you know), You can be touching in its unabashed sincerity. Likewise, this broad-reaching small-scale romantic drama is limited in what it's able to achieve on a low budget, which makes it hard to criticize. Clearly, this is an enormously heartfelt film, filled with gentle earnestness, and it should be celebrated as such. Alas, Hardin stayed in front of the camera following The Office's run, though she returned to the director's chair for a recent episode of The Bold Type.

Clark Duke (Arkansas)

Similar to John Krasinski with A Quiet Place, Clark Duke is indebted to his influences with Arkansas, a brooding, character-driven neo-noir that's liberally emulating the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Joel & Ethan Coen, Martin Scorsese, Robert Altman — to name only a few inspirations. Certainly, this crime drama doesn't mind lifting a few cues from the '90s ensemble pieces that shaped this actor-turned-director's early years.

Nevertheless, this self-aware, southern fried adaptation of John Brandon's 2008 novel demonstrates Clark Duke's rather resilient reverence for the irreverent dark comedies that populated movie theaters two — now three — decades prior, without sacrificing entertainment value along the way. Though not without its imperfections (the scope is lofty for a first-time feature, and Duke's shadowed photography can prevent the movie from complimenting its colorful cast of characters), the director presents himself as an admirable early filmmaker with a keen sense of how to balance tone and budding style.

Particularly with a best-to-date central performance from Liam Hemsworth, along with a coldly compelling villainous turn from Vince Vaughn, Arkansas is ultimately a bit undistinguished, but it's also a commendable debut in its own right. With a sharp ear for dialogue, a distinct sense of place, and an unwavering desire to impress, Clark Duke makes a familiar but finely-tuned little yarn in this well-worn, well-trotted crime genre.

Novak will serve as writer, director and star of Blumhouse's thriller, Vengeance. Rashida Jones, a rising star at NBCUniversal, will soon make history and become the first black executive to lead one a major American 24-hour news outlet when she takes over MSBNC from outgoing president Phil Griffin, the news outlet's parent company announced on Monday.

According to NBC News, Rashida Jones, who currently serves as a senior vice president overseeing breaking news, major events, and daytime programming at MSBNC, will officially start as the news network's next president on February 1, 2021, the day after Phil Griffin's 25 years at the news channel comes to an end.

With Monday's move, Rashida Jones becomes not only the most prominent black woman in the cable news industry, she will become the first black executive to run a major American news news network, a distinction noted by Variety. In a memo (via Deadline) sent out to employees on Monday, NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde wrote regarding Rashida Jones:

Rashida Jones has been with NBCUniversal for the past seven years, holding numerous titles and spearheading multiple initiatives, most notably the NBC Decision Desk, which proved instrumental in the network's coverage of the 2020 presidential election. According to her NBC Universal, Jones has played a major role in the rollout out of NBC News programs like Justice For All, Climate in Crisis, and Kids Under Pressure, as well as the 2019 launch of the news streaming service, NBC News Now.

Prior to joining MSNBC, Rashida Jones served as the news director of an NBC affiliate in Columbia, South Carolina for a number of years where she helped the news team with its in-depth investigative reporting.

As for Phil Griffin, he will be stepping down on January 31, 2021, 35 years after he started at NBC News as a producer on on the TODAY show. Griffin had been with MSNBC ever since the 24-hours news network was launched in July 1996, and has served as the channel's president since 2008. In the aforementioned employee memo, NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde revealed that he and the outgoing Griffin spoke shortly after the 2020 presidential election to discuss the MSNBC chief's desire to depart the network at a tim when he felt confident.

Phil Griffin touched on this in an email sent out to NBC News and MSNBC staffers Monday thanking the colleagues he has worked with throughout his time at NBCUniversal's News Group, saying that when he and Conde spoke in November, he felt it was the right time to hang up his cleats and let someone else take over after nearly a decade.

That person who will be Rashida Jones, who, upon taking over as president of MSNBC, will make history by becoming the first black woman to sit atop an American news network.

Sofia Coppola hasn’t made a movie since 2017’s The Beguiled, but she’s back with a modern dramedy this time around. And she’s signed on major talent in Bill Murray and Rashida Jones to boot. The two play a father-daughter duo in the new movie who don’t always get along but who team up to see what Jones’ overly busy husband has been up to.

Also starring Marlon Wayans, Jenny Slate, Jessica Henwick and more, On The Rocks is coming from A24 and is scheduled to hit theaters in October of this year, though we’ll have to wait and see if theaters continue rolling out movies at a quick clip in the months to come. The trailer, while featuring some great verbal back-and-forth from the always-likable Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, is often playful and amusing, though it does have a tinge of sadness behind it. That’s because Murray’s character Felix is convinced his daughter’s husband is cheating and Jones’ Laura even knows her life is in a rut. What follows is a lot of conversation over food and what looks to be a fun road trip in a zippy roadster.

If you’ve been keeping tabs on what Apple or A24 have been up to recently, you may know the two companies have partnered up to produce some original content. The first movie in this partnership just so happens to be On The Rocks, so we’ll have to wait and see if that helps to get some extra eyeballs on the content A24 has been putting out. In fact, the movie will be hitting Apple TV and theaters, so there will be a few different ways to catch it when it comes out.

The movie actually filmed all the way back in June of 2019, but as has happened with a lot of projects lately, it's taking a while for On The Rocks to see its theatrical debut. That will be changing soon, however. The trailer itself simply says "coming soon," which actually seems ominous to me, like the team behind it didn't want to slap a date on in case it needed to change. However, given its simultaneous release on Apple TV I'm probably reading into things. The flick is expected to release this coming October, with a specific day to be listed later.

Meanwhile, as theaters like AMC and Regal begin opening up in the U.S. with new safety precautions, we should be hearing about more and more movies getting official release dates. You can take a look at what the calendar has to offer so far. All that is still subject to change, of course, but we'll keep you updated about everything movies related in this wild time we're living in.

While NBC's workplace comedy Parks and Recreation was a bit of an underdog when it started (coming on the heels of the similarly styled hit The Office), after a bit of retooling for the second season it became a critical and audience favorite, lasting seven seasons and helping to launch several careers. Well, five years after fans said a bittersweet goodbye to the wild and wonderful denizens of Pawnee, Indiana, Parks and Recreation is coming back with original cast members like Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman! Parks and Recreation is doing a one-off special, set to air on April 30 at 8:30 p.m., which will benefit Feeding America. All of your favorite funny characters will be back, and we'll be treated to an all new story featuring Poehler, Pratt, Offerman, as well as Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Retta, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe and Jim O’Heir. The show will be all about Leslie Knope (Poehler) trying to stay in touch with all of her friends / de-facto family during a time when self-isolation and social-distancing are the order of the day. I cannot wait for the show to explain why the three main couples (Leslie and Ben, April and Andy, and Ann and Chris) do not appear in the same room with their spouse, but I fully trust executive producer Michael Schur to come up with sweet / goofy explanations.

If you are (shamefully) unaware of the nature of Parks and Recreation, the story focuses on Leslie, the deputy director of the Parks and Recreation Department of a small, fictional town in Indiana, who's complete dedication to her job and the people of Pawnee leads her to strive for excellence among some very daunting and silly situations. And, many of those situations come about because of her co-workers, friends and the corrupt / ineffective politicians and townspeople around her.

So, what's even better than getting a new episode of Parks and Rec with all of the main stars and which will benefit charity? We've been teased that some of Pawnee's other important citizens will be making appearances, too. I don't know about you, but I'm going to be sad if we don't at least see some Jean-Ralphio (Ben Schwartz), Diane Lewis (Lucy Lawless), Tammy II (Megan Mullally), Craig Middlebrooks (Billy Eichner) and, man, if they could even work in Perd Hapley (Jay Jackson) or Jeremy Jamm (Jon Glaser) somehow I'd be so happy.

You might be wondering why, after a few years worth of hints that the cast and creatives behind Parks and Recreation were game to come back together, they all finally decided that this was the right time. This may come as a surprise, but The Social Network will be ten years old this year. It feels like just yesterday that everyone was obsessed with the biographical drama about the founding of Facebook and the people behind the creation of the world's largest social media network. With David Fincher behind the camera, Aaron Sorkin writing the biting dialogue, the score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and the insane cast, it's no surprise. Speaking of The Social Network cast, it's insane to look back on a movie the included Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield, Brenda Song, and a who's who of young Hollywood talent.

Most, if not all of the film's young and talented cast-members have been quite busy over the past decade, and continue to entertain and enthrall audiences on the big screen, television sets, and stage productions around the world. And since The Social Network will be returning to Netflix in April 2020, now is the perfect time to look back on the cast and see what they're doing now.

Justin Timberlake (Sean Parker)

Justin Timberlake gave one of the best performances of his career with his portrayal of Napster co-founder Sean Parker in The Social Network. Introduced as an investor with a "billion-dollar" vision for the social media platform, Timberlake's dramatized version of the infamous billionaire quickly becomes the de facto antagonist of the film as he pushes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin out of the picture and plants ideas in the head of Mark Zuckerberg.

Timberlake was in the middle of a four-year hiatus from the music industry when he appeared in David Fincher's 2010 masterpiece, but has since turned his focus back to his pop career and movies that give him a chance to show off his vocal talents. The former NSYNC member was supposed to have another box office success with the Trolls World Tour in April 2020, but thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the sequel to the 2016 Trolls will be released digitally the same month it was supposed to debut in theaters.

Jesse Eisenberg (Mark Zuckerberg)

Jesse Eisenberg had already made a name for himself in comedies like Adventureland and Zombieland by the time he took on the role of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the Oscar-nominated drama. Though some critics and those who know the real-life Zuckerberg weren't the biggest fans of Eisenberg's portrayal of the young billionaire, the performance earned the actor an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

In the years following the release of The Social Network, Eisenberg has been quite busy with roles like Lex Luthor in Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League, as well as the 2019 followup to Zombieland. Eisenberg's latest project is the biographical drama, Resistance, which is based on Marcel Marceau, an aspiring mime famous for fighting in the French Jewish Resistance during World War II.

Andrew Garfield (Eduardo Saverin)

Andrew Garfield plays Eduardo Saverin, one of the founders of the original version of Facebook, which is shown in great detail in the early goings of the film. Throughout the movie, Garfield's talents can be seen in a number of key scenes, most notably the confrontation with Mark Zuckerberg at Facebook's headquarters after Saverin is essentially forced out of the company thanks to the meddling of Sean Parker.

In the years following his portrayal of the Facebook co-founder, Garfield has gone on to take a number of interesting roles, including Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Garfield has three film projects in the works, including the Gia Coppola picture Mainstream, Michel Showalter's The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tick, Tick… Boom!, all of which don't currently have a release date.

Brenda Song (Christy Lee)

Brenda Song, who's most known for her appearances in multiple Disney Channel original shows, took on a different type of role when she was cast as the fictionalized character, Christy Lee, in the retelling of Facebook's formative years. Portraying the love interest of Eduardo Saverin, Lee is credited in the movie with the phrase "Facebook me" as the platform begins to gain in popularity.

Following her appearance in The Social Network, Song went on to star in a number of movies and television series like Scandal, New Girl, and Dads, before signing on to join the cast of the Hulu original series Dollface with Kat Dennings. The comedy series was recently picked up for a second season.

Armie Hammer (Cameron And Tyler Winklevoss)

Armie Hammer was a relatively unknown actor when he was cast to portray Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (with the help of Josh Pence as a body stand-in for Tyler) in The Social Network. Like in the movie, the Winklevoss twins sued Mark Zuckerberg for stealing their ConnectU idea, and settled for $65 million in 2008.

Since playing the identical twins, the great-grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer has gone on to star in major studio releases like The Lone Ranger and offbeat dark comedies like Sorry To Bother You. Hammer is currently slated to appear in Kenneth Branagh's Agatha Christie adaptation Death On The Nile, as well as the Nicholas Jarecki thriller Dreamland, Bean Wheatley romance Rebecca, and even a Taika Waititi picture Next Goal Wins.

Dakota Johnson (Amelia Ritter)

It's easy to forget that Dakota Johnson was briefly featured in The Social Network as Amelia Ritter, a Stanford student who sleeps with Sean Parker when his character is first introduced. Though it's a small role, the scene helped introduce the billionaire to Facebook. The rest is history.

Following her minor role in the movie, Dakota Johnson went on to achieve superstardom in the Fifty Shades Of Grey franchise. In addition to playing Anastasia Steele, Johnson has also popped up in films like the 2018 remake of Dario Argento's horror classic Suspiria and the surprisingly engaging Bad Times At The El Royale. The daughter of Melanie Griffinh and Don Johnson is next slated to appear in Nisha Ganatra's dramatic comedy The High Note.

Rooney Mara (Erica Albright)

It only took one scene to turn Rooney Mara into a relatively unknown actress to a star in the making after breaking Jesse Eisenberg's heart and ego in the opening shot of The Social Network. Mara's character, Erica Albright, fed up with Mark Zuckerberg's obsession with "final clubs" and wanting so desperately to be liked by his peers, breaks things off with her one-time boyfriend and helps usher in the Facebook we all know today.

Mara went on to work with director David Fincher again in the 2011 remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and since then has shared the screen with everyone from Jude Law in Side Effects to Cate Blanchett in Carol, who she will be appearing alongside again in Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley, which does not yet have a release date.

Rashida Jones (Marylin Delpy)

Rashida Jones pops up several times throughout the Facebook drama as Marylin Delpy, a junior member of Zuckerberg's legal team during the Saverin lawsuit. Delpy comes off as the only character in the movie who sees past the persona of Mark Zuckerberg and sees him as a lonely and severely shattered founder of major platform.

Jones was already a star by the time she was cast as the young lawyer thanks to her role as Karen Filippelli on the hit comedy series The Office. The daughter of music icon Quincy Jones would go on to appear in dozens of movies and television shows over the next 10 years, including Parks And Recreation. She is also slated to appear in the upcoming Sofia Coppola drama On The Rocks and the new Netflix series #blackAF, which she also executive produced.

Max Minghella (Divya Narendra)

Featured mostly alongside the Winklevoss twins for much of his time in the movie, Max Minghella's portrayal of American businessman and ConnectU founder Divya Narendra is one of the main sources of conflict for Zuckerberg through the 2010 drama.

Minghella would go on to appear in films such as The Ides Of March, The Internship, and Teen Spirit following his performance as Narendra. He is currently a member of the main cast of the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale, where he plays Nick Blaine.

Joseph Mazzello (Dustin Moskovitz)

Joseph Mazzello has a way of showing up in movies that are cultural milestones before seemingly disappearing off the face of the earth until his next big role. He did this with Jurassic Park in 1993 and then again in 2010 with his role as Dustin Moskovitz in The Social Network. Moskovitz is one of the founders of Facebook and can be seen throughout the early happenings of the movie helping Zuckerberg get the site off the ground.

Since showing up in David Fincher's 2010 biographical drama, Mazzello has gone on to make appearances in television series like Justified and Person Of Interest, as well as film roles like his portrayal of Queen bassist John Deacon in the 2018 Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Well, that's what the main cast of The Social Network has been up to in the years since the Oscar-winning film's initial release. If they ever make a followup to the David Fincher drama, let's hope they bring back some of this stellar cast.

The Parks And Recreation cast has become legendary since it started its run on NBC a decade ago -- yes a decade -- in 2009. Not only did the show produce some of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, like Chris Pratt and Aziz Ansari, but its endless parade of guest stars and cameos is also amazing.

Parks & Rec had an amazing ensemble cast, each of whom brought some unique and hilarious to the project. Characters like Tom Haverford and Ron Swanson have broken free of being mere sitcom characters and have become cultural icons. The actors who played them are still some of the funniest people in Hollywood and have continued to make audiences laugh long after the show wrapped up its final episode in 2015.

But which are the funniest? In a cast that includes Amy Poehler, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, and Rob Lowe, not to mention smaller cameos and guests starring roles from the likes of Bill Murray, Andy Samberg, Dan Castellaneta, Patricia Clarkson, Henry Winkler, and so many more legends, how do you rank them? Well, let's take a shot here.

10. Rashida Jones (Ann Perkins)

On Parks And Recreation, Rashida Jones plays the kind and loving nurse and best friend to Leslie, Ann Perkins. While Ann is generally positive and bubbly, she has a dark streak in her too. Her low-key, measured and often deadpan reactions to the chaos that her co-stars create on Park & Rec are fantastic as she often seems to be the only sane person in Pawnee, Indiana.

Rashida Jones herself is Hollywood royalty, as the daughter of Golden Globe-winning actress Peggy Lipton and legendary music producer Quincy Jones. She first hit the big time when she starred as Karen on The Office. Jones is also a writer and a producer and was involved early on as the co-writer on Toy Story 4, and she has also written or co-written an episode of Black Mirror and the underrated rom-com Celeste & Jesse Forever (in which she also starred alongside Andy Samberg).

9. Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt)

Sir Ben Wyatt is the both hapless and brilliant love interest of Leslie Knope. Wyatt is basically a socially inept, awkward nerd who comes to town with a truckload of political baggage thanks to his ill-fated term as the youngest mayor in America in his hometown of Partridge, MN. He also holds a knighthood from the Queen of England and owns his very own Iron Throne from Game Of Thrones.

Adam Scott is a brilliant comedic actor who effortlessly plays understated characters and who brings humor in subtle and unexpected ways, well, except for his over-the-top and ridiculous coke-fueled character in Eastbound & Down. Even still, his character is like a more understated version of Kenny Powers, with a filthy mouth and messed up sense of humor.

8. Billy Eichner (Craig Middlebrooks)

Billy Eichner was a late addition to the Parks and Recreation cast, joining the show in Season 6 when Pawnee merged with Eagleton and he transferred to the parks department. His loud, overly enthusiastic and fairly angry character was a completely new voice for the show.

Since his stint on Parks & Recreation ended, it sure seems like Billy Eichner is everywhere these days, usually playing himself or some version of himself, screaming and carry on wherever he pops up, from late night talk shows to The Simpsons and everywhere else. He’s even got a part in the upcoming Lion King remake. His loud, brash humor is as hilarious as it is uncomfortable.

7. Rob Lowe (Chris Traeger)

When Rob Lowe joined the cast in Season 2, it was only supposed to be for a quick run as a guest star, but the character was so popular and Lowe liked it so much, he soon joined the cast full time as State Auditor and uncompromising health enthusiast Chris Traeger. Chris Traeger is literally one of the funniest characters Rob Lowe has ever played.

By the time he joined Parks & Rec, Rob Lowe was obviously already a huge star, going back to his “Brat Pack” days in the '80s when he starred in movies like St. Elmo’s Fire, and About Last Night, not to mention his hilarious roles in Tommy Boy and Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery. While Rob Lowe has also played serious, dramatic roles, most notably as Sam Seaborn on The West Wing, his charm and humor have always shined through, no matter the role. He also hasn't doesn't take himself too seriously, popping up in cameos all over the place, or starring in movies like Sex Tape, having been one of the original celebrities to deal with the release of one way back in the late '80s.

6. Aubrey Plaza (April Ludgate)

Aubrey Plaza’s April Ludgate was such an underused character at the beginning of the Parks and Recreation run. It took some time for the character to properly develop but once she did, it was spectacular. Her unpromisingly dark and nihilistic attitude is the direct foil to her unfailingly positive boyfriend/husband Andy Dwyer and together they are one of the funniest couples in sitcom history.

For her part, Aubrey Plaza has become a huge star since the show, starring usually as a similarly dark character in movies like Dirty Grandpa with Robert De Niro and Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates, not to mention the upcoming reboot of Child's Play. But her best post-Parks & Recreation role may just be as Aaron Burr in the Hamilton episode of Drunk History. It is seriously funny.

5. Megan Mullally (Tammy Swanson – Tammy II)

Tammy II is Ron Swanson’s second wife and the bane of his existence. She is also the director of the Pawnee Public Library and the bane of Leslie’s existence. She is manipulative with both characters and serves as a unifying force for both characters to team up against.

Tammy II is played, of course, by the fantastic Megan Mullally, the real-life wife of Nick Offerman and now an often comedic partner with her husband. For 20 years she has been one of the funniest people in Hollywood, first making a big name for herself in her Emmy-winning performance as Karen Walker on Will & Grace starting in the late '90s. Since then, she’s has shown up in a string of hits, like Boston Legal, 30 Rock, The New Adventures Of Old Christine, and many more, including her current portrayal as Nick Offerman’s sleazy wife in the Sling Box commercials that make commercial breaks worth watching.

4. Chris Pratt (Andy Dwyer)

It’s hard to argue that by far the biggest breakout star from Parks And Recreation is Chris Pratt. His character Andy Dwyer started as more or less a side character, a failed musician and deadbeat boyfriend of Ann Perkins who falls into the hole behind their house and ends up working for the Parks Department after marrying April.

As for Chris Pratt, he is now one of the biggest stars in the world, starring in three of the biggest franchises in Hollywood. First as Emmet in The Lego Movie, then as Star-Lord in Guardians Of The Galaxy, and also as the dinosaur handler Owen Grady in Jurassic World and its follow-up, Jurassic Word: Fallen Kingdom, with another Jurassic World movie expected in 2021.

3. Aziz Ansari (Tom Haverford)

Tom Haverford has, by far, the most laugh-out-loud lines in Parks And Recreation. His ridiculously bougie aspirations keep the laughs coming from the first episode until the last. He was an early highlight on a show that was notoriously slow to find its footing in the first season. Luckily, once the comedy picked up speed, his character never lost the funny.

Aziz Ansari was another huge breakout star of the show. His multiple stand up specials and his Netflix show Master Of None have been huge hits and Ansari is one of only a handful of stand-up comedians to sell out Madison Square Garden in New York. That tells you everything you need to know about how funny he is.

2. Amy Poehler (Leslie Knope)

The star of Parks And Recreation and one of the funniest people in Hollywood, Amy Poehler has become a legend. Her character, Leslie Knope is a brilliant “every man (or woman),” determined to do good and make the world, or her small part of it, better. Her aspirations should be the aspirations of everyone, except for maybe the obnoxious (but hilarious) enthusiasm for everything. Literally everything.

Poehler got her first big break as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, during one of its most creative and funniest periods, alongside fellow cast members Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Seth Meyers, and Tracy Morgan. Amy Poehler has written and starred in countless movies, often with her fellow SNL alum Tina Fey and has been praised for hosting both SNL and The Golden Globes, winning an Emmy for the former. Her latest project, Wine Country, can be found on Netflix.

1. Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson)

Ron Swanson is the undisputed king of Parks And Recreation. As the ornery “man’s man” who heads the department with an attitude that since government is inherently bad, the best way to do a government job is to barely do anything at all, Ron Swanson is great at doing very little at work. He balances his lack of hard work on the job with a slew of “manly” hobbies, like fishing, hunting, woodworking, lounge singing, meat eating, and ex-wives named Tammy.

Nick Offerman’s performance as Ron Swanson puts him in the upper echelon of all-time great sitcom characters, up there with George Costanza, Michael Scott, Liz Lemon, Norm Peterson, and any other great you can think of. In the years since Parks & Rec he has starred in stand-up specials, movies and TV shows like The Lego Movie, The Founder, Fargo and most recently in Amazon Prime’s Good Omens. It’s hard to image how funny life must be at home for two people like Offerman and his wife Megan Mullally.

Of course, there are characters and actors we’ve left off that hurt a lot to leave off, like both Saperstein siblings, Jean-Ralphio and Mona-Lisa, or their father Dr. Saperstein, played by Henry Winkler. There are three Tammys and only one made the list but all three are amazing.

By far the hardest to leave off are the other two full time employees of the Pawnee Parks Department, Donna, played by Retta and Jerry/Garry/Larry/Terry played by Jim O’Heir. They deserve better, as they are amazing too. But a ranked list is a ranked list and this time they didn't quite make the cut. Although if we were ranking by best one-liners, "treat yourself" would have to be on there.

We just lost another legend. Peggy Lipton -- model, "It" Girl, and Golden Globe-winning actress -- has died at age 72. The Mod Squad and Twin Peaks star is survived by her two actress daughters, Kidada and Rashida Jones, her children with ex-husband Quincy Jones.

Peggy Lipton revealed in 2004 that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer. The disease took her life on May 11, 2019. Rashida and Kidada shared a statement confirming their mother's death:

At least Peggy Lipton's daughters got to be there for her in the end, as they told the L.A. Times. Lipton was married to musician/producer Quincy Jones from 1974 to 1990.

Peggy Lipton started her career as a Ford Agency model in New York before moving to Los Angeles to start her acting career on shows like Bewitched, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and The John Forsythe Show. She shot to fame as Julie Barnes in the 1968–1973 series The Mod Squad. She was nominated for four Emmys and four Golden Globes for the role, picking up one Golden Globe win.

Peggy Lipton also had a successful singing career, but she stepped away from the spotlight a bit after her marriage to Quincy Jones to focus on raising her family.

About 20 years after The Mod Squad, she shot back to TV fame as Norma Jennings in David Lynch's Twin Peaks from 1990-1991. She also came back to the role for the 2017 Showtime return.

In a nice bit of mother/daughter synergy, Peggy Lipton also played Peggy Tribeca, mother of title character Angie Tribeca in Rashida Jones' TBS comedy. Rashida Jones followed her mother into acting, most famously as Ann Perkins in Parks and Recreation. She also made the documentary Quincy, about her father, Quincy Jones, for Netflix, winning a Grammy for Best Music Film.

It's tragic that Peggy Lipton passed just one day before Mother's Day 2019. But she leaves a fantastic legacy behind her, from her work to her children. Fans have been flooding social media with memories of her on Twin Peaks or The Mod Squad, or from meeting her in person, if they were so lucky. She will be missed.

9 to 5 is a comedic classic, but that doesn't mean that plans to reboot or revive the movie haven't been around for decades. With another stab being taken at bringing the story into the modern era via an actual sequel, we've heard how Dolly Parton, along with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, might come back for the new film. Apparently, the current plan is to have a new trio of wronged ladies seek out the originals for a bit of advice. According to Parton:

In case you don't know the joys of 9 to 5 (and shame on you, if that's the case), the film focuses on three women, Judy, Violet and Doralee (Fonda, Tomlin and Parton respectively), who work for a company with highly sexist and generally unfriendly business practices, and also happen to have a boss, Frank (Dabney Coleman), who firmly embraces those practices and directly sexually harasses Doralee. After becoming unlikely buds when work woes get them down and bonding over how they'd like to take care of Frank and make the company better, things take an even more hilarious turn when they find themselves kidnapping their "sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot" of a boss and secretly running the company.

If this sounds like the kind of idea that would drive disgruntled workers to the theater in droves, you're right. 9 to 5 came out in 1980 and made almost $104 million dollars, which led to it being listed as one of the highest grossing comedies of all time. Along with giving the world Dolly Parton's catchy hit song "9 to 5" and fully launching her into broad pop culture stardom, the movie also spawned a TV show of the same name that ran for five seasons on ABC, and later in first run syndication, from 1982 through 1988. A Broadway musical, with new songs by Parton, opened in 2009 and received 15 prestigious Drama Desk Award nominations, the most for any production in a single year, and also scored four Tony nominations.

Dolly Parton also mentioned, in her interview with Entertainment Weekly, that Pat Resnick (who wrote the original film and the stage show) is working on this new film with Rashida Jones. While Jones is best known for her work as an actress on television and in movies like Parks and Recreation, Angie Tribeca and I Love You, Man, she's also worked behind the camera and wrote the film Celeste and Jesse Forever, as well as an episode of Black Mirror and the recent documentary about her father Quincy Jones, Quincy. And, it's pretty clear that these two know that getting the original 9 to 5 trio of badass ladies to join in on the fun is a good idea.

With so many reboots, remakes, revivals and the like already coming down the pike or currently on TV and in theaters, it's become pretty clear that for every audience member that enjoys reliving these stories (or enjoying them for the first time), there are dozens who would rather just watch the original and are either actively against favorites from days gone by being updated or simply don't understand why so many remakes / reimaginings / long-awaited sequels are happening now.

Of course, everyone who makes a movie or TV show is looking to get as many eyeballs on it as possible, so the idea of finding a way to bring a classic that was beloved by many back to the screen seems like the perfect way to ensure an automatic audience. And, it's clear that Pat Resnick and Rashida Jones know what they're about by starting with the idea of getting Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda to reprise their roles from the first movie.

Part of what makes 9 to 5 so funny and memorable is not just the basic performances of the leads, but the friendship that quickly grows between the women, who are all in a bad place when it comes to their careers. The camaraderie between the three is what really makes 9 to 5 sing, and as much as I'm sure that every effort will be made, when casting the young leads for the new film, to find a new group of ladies who have the same rapport that Parton, Fonda and Tomlin did, you simply can't go wrong by adding them to the cast to bring in some of that familiar zing.

Another way that the writers and stars are hoping to have the 9 to 5 sequel connect with modern audiences is that the topics the original film covered are still relevant. Dolly Parton mentioned in her interview that the #MeToo movement now has many women standing up for themselves and their rights, especially in the workplace, so the comedy can be used, once again, to highlight important issues while still giving people a little bit of a break from bad news, something we have always needed comedies to help us with.

While I am always skeptical when folks start talking about rebooting or remaking classics, it does seem like the team working on 9 to 5 has the right idea, so I'm willing to give this a shot if it continues to develop. It's also a good sign that Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are willing to jump back in as long as they like the story that Pat Resnick and Rashida Jones come up with, so here's hoping that they create something as funny, weird and meaningful and the original.

The 9 to 5 sequel is still in the early stages of development, so there's no word right now on when we could see it on the big screen. But, be sure to stay tuned to CinemaBlend, and we'll let you know about any updates on the project as they become available to us.

Its the week of Valentine's Day, which is a holiday that is equal parts horrifying and delightful, depending on who you talk to. While those in the throws of new love find it an excuse to shower each other with affection, single folks can sometimes be a bit irritated by the constant chocolate and jewelry commercials. But hardcore fans of NBC's Parks & Recreation will know that there is an entirely separate holiday to celebrate, one that doesn't require a date or love interest. I'm talking about Galentine's Day, the holiday where Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope showers her female friends with love and gifts. Buckle up Parks & Rec fans, because a bunch of the cast reunited for the annual holiday. Check it out.

Galentine's Day made its debut back in the Season 2 episode titled after it. The day before Valentine's Day, Leslie Knope would take all of her female friends (and mother) and shower them with gifts and love. Knope was always one to try and unite her female friends, which wasn't always easy-- especially with Aubrey Plaza's April. While originally meant to just a be a cold open, Galentine's Day would end up popping up multiple times throughout the show's long tenure on NBC.

In the above photo, you can see Amy Poehler alongside Parks & Rec actors Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, and Kathryn Hahn. While Retta was noticeably missing (she's probably busy filming NBC's Good Girls), fans of the beloved sitcom will be happy to see so many of the ladies together for Galentine's Day. In particular, seeing Jones and Poehler together make me feel like Leslie and Ann are still best friends. They must be; Leslie would never let Ann get away from her for good.

UPDATE: Rashida Jones has issued a statement to The New York Times saying that her and Will McCormack's departure wasn't a result of an unwanted advance from John Lasseter, but due to "creative and philosophical" differences, specifically because they considered Pixar to be a culture "where women and people of color do not have an equal creative voice." The original story follows below.

Earlier today, Pixar chief creative officer and Disney Animation head John Lasseter announced that he will be taking a six-month leave of absence from the studio after acknowledging a number of "painful" conversations and "missteps" concerning his leadership role. Now it's come out that Lasseter is the latest entertainment/media figure to be accused of sexual misconduct. For instance, supposedly his behavior is what led comedy actress/writer Rashida Jones to depart Toy Story 4 a while back.

Rashida Jones, known for her work on Parks and Recreation, The Office and Angie Tribeca (among others), was hired in late 2014 to pen Toy Story 4 with her then-writing partner, Will McCormack, using a story crafted by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich. Jones will still be credited as a writer on the next Toy Story movie, but according to sources who spoke with THR, both she and McCormack left the project early after Lasseter made an "unwanted advance." Neither Jones nor McCormack responded to requests for comment on this story, and while Disney didn't provide a direct comment either, a spokesperson said that the writing duo departed Toy Story 4 due to "creative differences."

Reportedly John Lasseter's encounter with Rashida Jones wasn't a onetime incident of sexual harassment, as other unnamed sources/insiders allege that he's behaved this way for a long time. Regarding Jones, however, this is a unsettling update in Toy Story 4's long development. Assuming that Pixar brought a different writer on board to adjust the script after Jones and McCormack's departure, it's unclear how much of the duo's work will remain in the theatrical release, though given that they're both still being credited, presumably there will at least still be some basic elements left intact. Lasseter was originally supposed to direct Toy Story 4, but he stepped down due to other commitments. He is still attached as a producer, and Josh Cooley was brought it to fill those directorial shoes.

After spending three movies, i.e. over a decade, in Andy's possession, 2010's Toy Story 3 ended with Andy giving the main characters to the young Bonnie before heading off to college. Toy Story 4 has been described as a standalone sequel "love story" that sees Woody and Buzz attempting to bring Little Bo Peep back home. Most of the main cast will reprise their roles, although Don Rickles passed away before he could record his Mr. Potato lines. As for newcomers, Patricia Arquette has been added to the cast as a "laid-back mom, who's described as a hippie."

Until recently, I never thought I would see a genuine, bona fide resurrection take place – that’s something typically reserved for myths and legends. However, sitting through Angie Tribeca, I couldn’t help but realize something incredible had happened. The late, great Leslie Nielsen had somehow magically risen from the grave and inhabited every fiber of Rashida Jones' being, allowing her to headline one of the best new comedies of the year. TBS does not have a strong track record when it comes to the shelf life of their original programming, but Steve and Nancy Carell’s Angie Tribeca could easily prove to be the network’s breakout series.

Within moments of the first frame rolling, audiences immediately will recognize the sort of comedy that’s in store for them. Opening on her increasingly ridiculous early morning training montage – complete with obvious body doubles and rampant furniture destruction – LAPD detective Angie Tribeca (Jones) soon learns that Lieutenant Atkins (Jere Burns) has assigned her a new partner in the form of Jay Geils (Hayes MacArther). While they initially butt heads, a deeper bond begins to form between the two partners as they go undercover in brothels, take down illegal ferret-trafficking rings and confiscate cocaine-filled wedding cakes.

Throughout their adventures, Tribeca and Geils enlist the assistance of numerous other LAPD staff members, such as K-9 officers Tanner (Deon Cole) and Hoffman (Jagger, the same German Shepard from Max), as well as forensic scientists Dr. Edelweiss (Alfred Molina) and Scholls (Andree Vermeulen). Every member of the cast represents some sort of modern police procedural cliché and inhabits their own identity: Edelweiss is the ambiguously crippled forensic scientist from every CSI series you've ever seen, Tanner is the street-wise muscle, and Scholls represents some sort of amalgam between Arrow’s Felicity Smoak and Abby Sciuto from NCIS. While the show overall relies on a fairly consistent style of humor, each of these characters brings a different underlying emotion and mentality that gives Angie Tribeca’s satire a good balance. In all honesty, the whole ensemble works so well that any of them could get a spinoff of their own at some point – particularly Officers Tanner and Hoffman.

However, while not enough can be said about the contributions of the supporting cast, it’s the titular detective who shoulders the weight of the entire series. Despite a strong resume of portraying the “straight” character on programs like The Office and Parks and Recreation, Rashida Jones seems to have found her niche playing this stoic yet inherently goofy detective.

The series invites endless comparisons to the iconic Naked Gun franchise, but it seems to do so willingly. It maintains the same sort of irreverent, deadpan approach to utterly absurd humor that turned Leslie Nielsen into a comedy icon. Of course, this isn’t the first series to pick up the torch where Naked Gun left it. Shows such as Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital, or NTSF: SD: SUV have also tapped into this inscrutable style of humor, but with a decidedly darker, more mature tone to the proceedings. Angie Tribeca takes the fanciful lightness of the iconic 1980s films series and channels it through the lens of the dime-a-dozen police procedural. From performing an autopsy on a wooden ventriloquist dummy to perfectly parodying Roger Daltrey’s scream that preceded every episode of CSI: Miami, Angie Tribeca expertly walks the line between razor sharp satire and offbeat fun.

Although it’s easy to heap praise upon the new show, that doesn’t mean it's perfect. As previously mentioned, every episode of the series pretty much boils down to an unrelenting blitzkrieg of offbeat comedy, and while most of the jokes land with impeccable poise, the ones that flop often drag on for far longer than they have any right to. Also, some of the humor does at times come off as a bit too infantile for the show’s own good. One episode sees Tribeca and Geils go up against a villain whose name sounds like “front butt,” and as one can imagine, the show spends far longer than necessary milking that one.

At the end of the day, Angie Tribeca is a comedy that does exactly what comedy is meant to do: incite laughter. Although the trope of funny cops has been more or less beaten into the ground over the last couple of decades, this show finds its niche by embracing an older, somewhat forgotten style of comedy. It’s an exercise in whimsical absurdity that honors the spoof style antics of Mel Brooks and Leslie Nielsen.

This isn’t anything new for The Tonight Show, which has featured Fallon and Jones teaming up for holiday hits in the past. But this is probably going to be the only time in history that you’ll see “Hotline Bling” using Butterball turkeys in the dance, although the endless line of memes for that song have possibly allowed a bagged bird into the festivities without my knowledge.

Still, it’s a good dance that should be all the rage for the rest of the holiday season. Put these moves to memory if you want to be the coolest person who managed to not have to eat at the kids’ table this year.

There’s a lot more than just “Hotline Bling” on display, though. We get to see “Weird” Al-esque takes on Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” LunchMoney Lewis’ “Bills,” The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” and more. While my tolerance for hearing “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” ran out after my first experience with it, I cannot hate on a song that is about mashed potatoes, so I’m on board with this spoof version. However, the one for Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” involving turkey sandwiches and leftovers didn’t do it for me. I mean, beyond make me hungry, that is. Has that, in fact, been the true purpose of music all along?

There’s more than just Fallon and Jones, too. The ending of the segment is dedicated to “Downtown,” the latest single from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. You’ll notice Queen Latifah pops in to remind people of her rapping skills, and then Foxy Shazam’s Eric Nally, who is featured in “Downtown” proper, takes over the stage and Santa Clauses the shit out of that place.

In showbiz nowadays, it can be tough to be a woman past a certain age. And as it happens, even casual viewers are willing to jump on the age shame train. One particular viewer recently started a minor cyber-tussle with Rashida Jones when she took to the Twitter-sphere to call out Verizon for casting a woman who looked too young to play Rashida's mom in a commercial.

Now, to this Twitter-enthusiast’s credit, her use of apostrophes was on point. Less to her credit, it turns out that the woman playing Rashida Jones’ mom in the Verizon commercials is in fact Rashida Jones’ real mom. Jones herself hit the ‘net in defense of her mother with a hilarious response:

It’s hard to say what the best part of Jones' response is, although many kudos to her for not even needing all 140 characters to turn the comment around on the tweeter. She retorted in a way that could not possibly reflect badly on her or start a Twitter war, but still had enough of a burn on it to sting. After all, what deeper cut is there than being the target of not one but three laughing/crying emojis? Well played, Rashida Jones. Well played.

The response is proof enough that good humor runs in the family. Rashida Jones may have made a name for herself largely as a comedienne on the small screen circuit, but tagging her mom in the response just goes to show that she’s not the only woman in the family who knows when not to take comments too seriously. Besides, there are definitely worse insults for a woman appearing in showbiz than to comment that she looks too young.

In all seriousness, it would be unreasonable to expect that every person on social media thoroughly research every single tiny comment put out on their pages. It would perhaps be wiser, however, not to call the attention of the celebrities in question. This entire affair - MomGate? - never would have happened if the doubtful young woman hadn’t tagged Rashida in her tweet; while the rest of the world certainly would have been deprived of some humor, it might have at least spared the Tweeter some embarrassment. Either way, it’s good to see that Rashida Jones knows how to find the fun in anything.

As a final note to anybody planning on tweeting at Peggy Lipton: Rashida Jones really is young enough to be her daughter.

Pixar’s latest film, Inside Out, pulls at your heartstrings until the point where you’re an exposed ball of emotions, and that’s thanks in part to the incredible voice cast. The animation movie giant expertly positioned Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Bill Hader as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, and Mindy Kaling as Disgust, and together they are the face of Inside Out. However, there’s a whole crop of incredible voice cameos that you might have missed if you weren’t using your ears. The film is a visual explosion of enthralling imagery, so it’s understandable if you weren’t able to connect all of the voices with their actors.

During the course of the film, we meet the emotions inside the head of a young girl named Riley and discover what happens when two of them — Joy and Sadness — are unceremoniously thrown out into the wilderness of her mind. As they attempt to get back to headquarters, they encounter a number of interesting and hilarious characters along the way, including imaginary friends, mind maintenance workers, and horrid abominations. (Ahem, Jangles the Clown.) Let’s shed some light on some familiar actors who brought some of these supporting players to life.

Flea

Character: Mind Worker Cop Jake

When Joy and Sadness are whisked away to the maze of Longterm Memory and the exciting Imagination Land, they encounter two Mind Worker Cops. One of them is named Jake and he gets his voice from off-the-wall musician Flea, a.k.a. Michael Peter Balzary. You might’ve missed the bass player, composer, and part-time actor because he barely had any lines, but just know that the same guy who performed naked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Woodstock is technically in a Pixar movie.

Richard Kind

Character: Bing Bong

You know Inside Out is a good movie when you care so much for what happens to not only an imaginary friend, but the imaginary friend of another person. Bing Bong is a ball of sunshine and rainbows, and he wouldn’t have been so without the voice of Richard Kind backing him. Turns out the Gotham City mayor has a heart of gold.

Rashida Jones

Character: Cool Girl’s Emotions

Oh, Ann, you beautiful tropical fish. Of course your real-life counterpart would be the one to voice all of the emotions living inside the coolest girl in school’s head. Everyone, including her best friend in the entire world, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler's charater on Parks and Recreation), wants to be Rashida Jones, so it makes perfect sense that Riley’s Disgust is obsessed with impressing the Cool Girl and her emotions.

Frank Oz

Character: Subconscious Guard Dave

On the road back to headquarters, Joy and Sadness find themselves in Riley’s subconscious, which is manned by two guards, Frank and Dave. Funny enough, Frank is voiced by Dave Goelz, while Dave is voiced by the legendary puppeteer Frank Oz, the man behind The Muppet Movie, Sesame Street, and Yoda in Star Wars. Goelz is also a puppeteer, but, come on, it’s Yoda.

Paula Poundstone

Character: Forgetter Paula

One of the best scenes in the entire film involves the Forgetters, two hilarious little jellybean-looking mind workers who are in charge of transporting fading memories to Longterm Memory. Like, who needs most of the U.S. presidents we all memorized in fifth grade? The female Forgetter got her voice from stand-up comedian Paula Poundstone. And, off course, she needed an uproarious partner in crime.

Bobby Moynihan

Character: Forgetter Bobby

The SNL funny man voiced Chet in Pixar’s Monsters University, followed up by a voice role in the short film follow-up, Party Central, but Forgetter Bobby managed to top those characters with just a few short lines. And they involved getting rid of all those piano tunes Riley learned when she was younger — except, of course, for "Chopsticks" and "Heart and Soul."

John Ratzenberger

Character: Fritz

If you blink, you might miss John Ratzenberger brief cameo. In fact, even a misplaced, forceful breath will make him dissipate. The actor played Fritz, who, if you don’t know (and we had to look it up), is the cloud person Joy, Sadness, and Bing Bong meet in Cloud Town. Bing Bong takes a chunk out of his house, which causes a heated street confrontation. There’s always a role, no matter how big or small, for Ratzenberger in a Pixar movie.

Diane Lane

Character: Riley’s Mom

Diane Lane has mothered Superman, so there was no one more qualified to be the mother of Riley. Because almost all of the movie focuses on the young girl and her emotions, though we do get a few glimpses of the emotions living inside other people, we almost glazed over good ole mom and dad. It’s no wonder the matriarch of the household had such a comforting and calming voice.

Kyle MacLachlan

Character: Riley’s Dad

When Kyle MacLachlan isn’t battling S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as Calvin Zabo, and when he isn’t filming the upcoming Twin Peaks reboot, he’s the universal voice of dad. In Inside Out, his character gets a new job that forces his family to move to San Francisco, which is what causes all these major changes to happen to Riley and throws her emotions into flux. MacLachlan has one of those voices that makes you go, "Wait! Where do I know him from?" And the answer is Dale Cooper. If only he'd mentioned coffee or pie.

Over the years more and more regulations on the methods of the porn industry have resulted in a decline in production. But, the demand for pornography doesn’t stop. And so the industry has seen a dramatic increase in amateur production where it is much more simple and affordable to promote directly to an audience. While we may look at amateur porn like Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make A Porno, there’s a much darker, disturbing side to the industry. Rashida Jones’ documentary, Hot Girls Wanted reveals the reality of amateur porn, and it may not be what you expected. Take a look at the trailer.

Hot Girls Wanted documents the frightening reality of the amateur porn industry. As you can tell from the trailer, many of these newly made porn stars are simply young teenagers who clicked an ad that promised them fame. Though it is legal to take part in the industry after 18 years old, many of the producers and directors specifically look for young girls between the ages of 18 and 20 for their films. The original intention of the Hot Girls Wanted documentary was to explore the male consumption of pornography on college campuses, but after seeing that most of these men were watching porn starring these young girls, curiosity swayed towards why these women were entering the industry in the first place.

Netflix released the trailer yesterday, as the documentary hit the streaming service. The film was produced by Rashida Jones with directors Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus attached. It first debuted at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was well-received by critics. Which is no surprise considering this isn’t the first time the co-directors tackled the subject of the porn industry. Their 2012 documentary Sexy Baby explored the impact of porn and pop culture from three different perspectives: a 12-year-old feminist, a 22-year-old kindergarten teacher and a 32-year-old former porn star. In the cases explored in Hot Girls Wanted the troubled lives of these young porn stars cover a wide range of issues from everything to misogyny to mental health.

Netflix partnered with the team behind Hot Girls Wanted back in February hoping to expose the shocking world which the documentary explored. The directors told Deadline that Netflix shared their passion for sharing a story that "no one wants to talk about but that needs to be discussed".

The provocative subject is sure to bring about some controversy, but the accounts documented in the film are all popular scenarios in the continually growing amateur porn industry. Hot Girls Wanted is now available to stream on Netflix.

Jimmy Fallon is already in the throes of the holiday season spirit. His enthusiasm for the holidays is infectious on The Tonight Show, and last night he brought along celebrity pal Rashida Jones to join in the yuletide cheer. Instead of a lip sync battle, the duo belted out a four- minute medley of modern pop hits with lyrics tailored for the holidays. Like most music-related Fallon bits, it's a slam dunk.

You never quite know what Jimmy Fallon is going to pull on NBC's The Tonight Show. After a brief introduction, actress Rashida Jones appears from backstage with a mic in hand. From there on, it's a blitz of holiday hilarity as the duo tear up the stage, singing a bunch of Top 40 hits with clever holiday lyrics inserted instead of the usual words.They crush it, proving that Fallon has a knack for knowing which celebrity to sign on for which specific bit.

The pair tackle everything from “All About That Bass” and “Stay With Me” to “Anaconda” and “Let It Go.” Without missing a beat they seamlessly infiltrate the pop music of today, turning the music into legitimate (albeit a little off-color) holiday music. The writing is spot on and Jones and Fallon make it work from the first Roots beat. You would think the two have been doing this perfectly orchestrated routine for years and they absolutely hit it out of the park. Complete with Santa Claus making an appearance, the crowd seems to love every last minute of the act.

My favorite lyric had to be Jones and Fallon on current hit “All About That Bass” where they lampoon something we can all relate to around the holidays: gaining weight. The verse goes something like this:

It seems that holiday song parodies are the way to go this season. In fact, Jimmy Kimmel gave a similar concept a shot earlier this week. Still, Fallon is a tough act to beat--especially when it comes to musical numbers. This holiday medley with Ms. Jones is a solid entry into the burgeoning holiday season. As for what Fallon has up his sleeve for the rest of the season, who knows. One thing is for sure, whatever it is, it will be damn entertaining.

When Parks and Recreation returns to NBC for its seventh and final season, it’s going to be a different show in many ways, from its shifted time frame to Leslie’s new job to her and Ben’s triplets. But it will resemble past seasons in several ways as well, specifically in some actors coming back to reprise their beloved roles. Fans can expect to see Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones returning as Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins, whom I expect are lit’rally the greatest parents in the known world.

Unfortunately, we probably won’t get to spend a lot of time with the quirky couple (or whatever role each is playing in the other’s life at this point), as Chris and Ann are only confirmed to return for one episode. Will it be the final one?

The two actors left the series in the middle of Season 6 – though Jones returned for another episode later in the season – and their characters are presumably still in Michigan and raising young Oliver. Considering we’re not even used to there being any children on this series, how much madness will ensue when Ann’s kid, Leslie’s kids and Ron’s kid are all in the same room? Man I hope they make the most of it. I want to see Chris as a father. What if they have more than one kid now? Eek!

There are several more characters coming back to Pawnee next season. According to EW, Jon Hamm is confirmed to return as the exceedingly incompetent National Parks employee Ed, who was fired by Leslie in the Season 6 finale’s final minutes. (Watching Jon Hamm make mistakes could be a series all by itself.) Megan Mullally, the real-life wife of Nick Offerman, is coming back to wreck Ron’s life for a little while as Tammy II. Natalie Morales, who played the Snakehole bartender that Tom hooked up with for a few episodes, is also coming back.

Showrunner Mike Schur hasn’t been very secretive about his mission to get as many recurring characters as possible for the show’s final season. Any episode with Ben Schwartz’s Jean-Ralphio and Jenny Slate’s Mona-Lisa is going to be my favorite one, no que-he-e-e-estion. Did that impression work in text form?

Parks and Recreation is scheduled to debut its Season 7 at some point in the midseason, which probably means January or February of 2015. Let’s just hope Chris hasn’t become anything like Lowe’s alter ego from those DirecTV commercials, and that Justin Theroux returns as the super-cool Justin. He was dreamy, right?

It’s the end of an era in Pawnee, Indiana, where the good folks in the Parks and Recreation department are forced to bid farewell to two of its most beloved community members. Sniff sniff. The time has unfortunately come: tonight on NBC, Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins will finally move to Michigan and it is literally the saddest day in the history of sad, television-related days. To pull a Liz Lemon on you all, we’re going to have to go talk to some food about this. Where’d you all put my waffles?

But as sad as we are, we can only imagine how utterly gutted poor Leslie Knope is in these hours leading up to her big best friend adieu bidding. It’s Treat Yoself Thursday, America: and that means a new episode of Parks and Recreation is only a few hours away from gracing our television screens. The NBC comedy series may be saying goodbye to Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe next week (and we’ve got the pictures to prove it), but this go-around is all about hard nipples, chard bodies, and having a wee whine at work. There are so many puns in this episode one of them is most assuredly going to peas you. (Cue: rimshot.)

Considering all the losses poor Leslie Knope has suffered thus far this season, she totally needs a win. So it’s nice to see one of her successful city council projects — the Pawnee Farmers’ Market — up close and personal. Until it gets too personal, that is, with the introduction of its latest vendor, Chardbodies. Yes, a stand that cells nothing but the stalky, leafy green. Where you can not only get your Swiss and Rainbow Chard for a great price, but also an eyeful of dancing models in tiny outfits. It's a vegetative scandal in the making.

But that isn’t the only edible causing a ruckus: there’s also the Parks Department’s monthly Whine and Cheese Club — also known as Ron Swanson’s way of abiding by but simultaneously skirting the rules that require him to have monthly open hours to hear employee complaints and criticism. No surprise there, Donna and Tom are front and center in the ingesting-cheese-while-complaining department, while sipping on some of the finest wines in all of Pawnee. Whine while you wine? Not that we work in an office environment, but something tells us such an affair would be a brilliant and welcome way of making your employees love their job.

And final, of course, there are nipples. In fact, Chris Traeger talks about nipples so much in this clip, we screams “you’ve got to stop saying nipple!” almost simultaneously with Ann Perkins. Literally: this is the most in-depth discussion on nipples and nipple health we’ve ever seen on primetime.

It's starting to become hard to keep up with all of these Ant-Man stories. Just a few minutes ago we learned that Michael Pena is potentially in negotiations with Marvel Studios to join the cast of the new Edgar Wright-directed film, and now Variety claims to have a bit of inside knowledge about the actresses being looked at to play the movie's female lead. The trade's sources have informed them that Rashida Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard are among the names being talked about in the studio's offices, but also notes that offers haven't gone out just yet. It's not clear if the role specified is that of Janet van Dyne or another character entirely.

If a link between Jones and Ant-Man seems familiar, that's because the actress was first mentioned in connection with the project all the way back in October. The actress does have some previous experience working with Paul Rudd (who is set to play Scott Lang in the movie), the two of them not only starring in the movies Our Idiot Brother and I Love You Man together, but also in multiple episodes of the comedy series Parks and Recreation.

This is the first time that Bryce Dallas Howard has been rumored for a Marvel Studios film, but she does have some comic book movie experience having played the original Gwen Stacy in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. What could cause a conflict, however, is the fact that Howard is currently attached to star in another big 2015 blockbuster: Jurassic World. Production on the dinosaur film will likely take place right around the same time as Ant-Man, which means that working out a deal could be impossible.

While Jones and Howard still seem to be in the running, one actress who has apparently removed herself from the race is Jessica Chastain. Variety says that the Oscar nominee was actually approached about the role, but wound up passing on it. If the report is true, this is the second time that Chastain has turned Marvel down, having previously been offered the Rebecca Hall part in Iron Man 3.

Janet van Dyne was first introduced in the comics in 1963 and is best known as her superhero alter ego Wasp. She has the ability to shrink herself down to the size of an insect, but she can also fly and fire bio-electric energy blasts from her hands. The character has classically been romantically linked with Dr. Hank Pym, who will be played by Michael Douglas in the movie. If Jones and Howard are in fact being considered to play van Dyne, it's possible that given the age difference the film will have her in a relationship with Paul Rudd's Scott Lang instead. Either that or the actresses are going out for a completely different role all together.

There's been no confirmation yet, but there are some strong rumors and some telling language from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige that suggest Paul Rudd could very well be playing Ant-Man a few years down the road. And while it's a little crazy to barge ahead with one more rumor while that one's still forming, we can't help it-- the very fuzzy rumor emerging today about who might play Janet Van Dyne is too good not to discuss.

Yes, we said Janet Van Dyne-- according to this anonymously-sourced rumor at Superhero Movies News, The Wasp won't be a part of Ant-Man, but her alter ego Janet Van Dyne will, and the actress at the top of their list to play her is Parks & Recreation's Rashida Jones. The Parks connection means she and Paul Rudd have worked together before, him as the buffoonish City Council candidate Bobby Newport and her as the sensible Ann Perkins, and they were also co-stars in the indie Our Idiot Brother. It's reportedly Jones's chemistry with Rudd that has director Edgar Wright and Marvel eyeing her for the Janet Van Dyne part, but it's likely she'll be doing a lot more than just hanging out with Ant-Man in future Marvel installments--the rumor says that Ant-Man will contain many references to Janet's future as The Wasp.

Worth noting: this site has no track record for scoops whatsoever; all they're willing to tell us about their source is that he or she correctly predicted that Paul Rudd would be cast as Ant-Man-- which, again, is news that hasn't been confirmed yet. So treat this Jones news not so much as "likely fact" but "fodder for speculation" for the time being.

In the comics Janet Van Dyne and Ant-Man (a.k.a. Hank Pym) are founding members of The Avengers, a team who eventually got married in the series and get their powers from the same "Pym particles" invented by the hero of Edgar Wright's upcoming film. Fans of the Avengers comics have wondered for a while when The Wasp would finally pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and given The Avengers director Joss Whedon's long history of emphasizing strong female characters in his work, plenty of people had assumed that it would make room for The Wasp in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. So far that extra female presence seems to be coming from Scarlet Witch, but the introduction of Ant-Man meant that The Wasp wouldn't be far behind. We have no idea how true it is that Jones will play the part, but she does seem like a good fit, if indeed it's Paul Rudd who will be stepping into Hank Pym's lab.

As exciting as it is that Ant-Man is finally gearing up for production, it remains a good ways off, scheduled for a July 31, 2015 release date, just two months after the release of The Avengers: Age of Ultron. That means that, even while we're still trying to sort through the endless Ultron rumors, there are now Ant-Man stories to add to the pile. The expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be exciting, but it's sure making a lot of headaches for the rumor police.

Pawnee, Indiana has become such a richly developed, bizarre place that it's hard to imagine you'd miss two measly people. But yesterday's news that Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones would both be leaving Parks & Recreation still came as a nasty shock. Ann Perkins! Chris Traeger! The two most attractive characters on the show, who were just coming back around to a relationship with each other, were key members of the ensemble at the center of Parks & Rec. How could they possibly get rid of them?

As the show's creator Mike Schur has explained, they'll be writing Ann and Chris out of the story with "a great Pawnee send-off," and given how close a friendship Ann shares with the show's central character, Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope, "she'll never be far from Pawnee." The obvious assumption seems to be that Ann and Chris will continue developing their relationship and trying to have a baby together, and at some point decide the right move is for them to leave town as a unit. Ann has never been nearly as attached to Pawnee as some of the show's other characters-- remember when she hoped Chris would ask her to move to Indianapolis?-- and Chris was originally introduced alongside Adam Scott's Ben as a pair of traveling government fixers, moving constantly from town to town. Schur said in his statement that they only expected to have Lowe for five or six episodes, but that he will have wound up sticking around for 75. It's not hard to see that Chris could be ready to move on.

And, if Parks & Recreation fans are honest with themselves, Ann and Chris are not as integral to the story as they probably ought to be. Ann was originally introduced as a catalyst for Leslie to develop the park next to her house, and a kind of eye-rolling audience surrogate who would notice how ridiculous Leslie was-- kind of like Jim's purpose opposite Michael Scott in The Office. As Leslie grew into a more likable and real human, the show made a great move by making her and Ann the tightest of friends, allowing for hilarious intimate moments-- Leslie's excited phone call/homemade video for Ann after she and Ben first kissed-- and some genuine dilemmas for the two of them as they grew older. But for Ann's stories apart from Leslie, she was so often at a loss, essentially ping-ponging between relationships until settling on the pregnancy story, which made some sense for the character but did feel like a last-ditch move for writers who had run out of new things for Ann to do. .

Rob Lowe's Chris has played a smaller role in the story all along, and is so often used for brief, hilarious jokes-- "stop pooping"-- that it's easy to forget he hasn't done much lately either. Remember him dating Jerry's daughter? Or falling into a depression when he realized he might die some day? Chris is consistently funny and plays well off the other characters on the show-- his mentorship of Tom is especially sweet-- but he's not leading his own strong stories either.

Parks & Recreation isn't really a show about plot. As the show moves into its sixth season it's become less about what will happen to the characters and more about just spending some time with them each week. I have no problem with that. But as the straight woman in a world full of weirdos, Ann Perkins is harder to enjoy on that level-- and Chris, though completely adorable, is a character specifically designed not to fit into that world. As Pawnee has gotten more nuanced, it's become less necessary to have audience-surrogate types like Ann to guide us through. We know our way around Pawnee. We know when to roll our eyes at Leslie and when to hug her. We don't need Ann to show us how anymore.

This isn't the first time Parks & Rec has seen the right moment to let a character go and refused to hang on for the sake of it. Paul Schneider was ostensibly the show's second lead, as Leslie's unrequited love Mark Brandanowicz, when the show first premiered, but as the writers found their groove with the characters, Mark's disinterest in Leslie and general straight-man role fit in less and less. He was like a less goofy, less loving version of Ann, and though Paul Schneider was great, it was beyond time for him to go around the time Ben and Chris showed up from Indianapolis. Parks & Rec is so wonderful because it recognizes the best in the characters it does have-- you don't get a breakout character like Ron Swanson by accident-- and understands when it has to let some of them go. We'll look forward to your well-deserved send-off, Ann and Chris. But we probably won't miss you as much as we thought.

And now, a toast to Ann and Chris, served in the form of a flash of light.

Season 6 will be a milestone season for Parks and Recreation as the series approaches its 100th episode. It also appears to be the final season for stars Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones, who are reportedly set to exit the series on or at some point after the thirteenth episode of the season. Rashida Jones has been with the show since the very beginning, while Lowe boarded the NBC comedy during Season 2, so their exits will most certainly be a huge event for the series.

BuzzFeed posted the initial story, stating that Lowe and Jones will depart Parks and Rec during the season's 13th episode, which will likely land during February sweeps. While NBC has not offered any official comment, THR confirmed the news, but their wording is a bit different. The site reports that the two actors are expected to leave the show following Episode 13, which either means Episode 13 is their last episode, or they're leaving after that episode at some point. I'm inclined to assume the former. Regardless, they're leaving partway through the upcoming season, and it may not be a stretch to guess that their departure is a package deal, given that Jones' Ann Perkins and Lowe's Chris Traeger were trying to have a baby during Season 5. We can optimistically hope that news of the actors' exits means their stories have run their course - possibly straight into each others' - and they're set to embark upon their happily ever after, not unlike Michael and Holly did during Season 7 of The Office.

While THR points out Lowe and Jones' commitments outside their roles on Parks and Rec - Killing Kennedy for Lowe, a Warner Bros. Television deal for Jones - there's no mention of what prompted this exit. Was it the actors' choices to move on? Or are they being intentionally written out? It's entirely possible that it's a combination of both. Perhaps Lowe and Jones ready to move on and the writers found a way to accommodate that partway through the upcoming season. Regardless, their exits will most definitely be felt. In fact, I'm curious to see if additional characters will be written into the comedy in an attempt to fill the sizable gap that's left when Ann and Chris leave.

As THR points out, Parks and Recreation isn't the only NBC comedy with major character adjustments in store. Chevy Chase exited Community at the end of last season, and then came word that Donald Glover's role would be diminished in the series upcoming fifth season. What's Abed without his Troy? What's Leslie without her Ann? These are questions that will apparently be answered for better or worse when both series return next season. For Parks and Recreation, that's an hour-long episode set for Thursday, September 26.

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter posted the following statement from Parks and Rec showrunner Michael Schur regarding Lowe and Jones' exits:

Rashida Jones may have had the best of intentions when she implored John Travolta and other big name stars to come out of the closet, but that optimistic viewpoint didn’t make her comment any less offensive. So, two days after the interview in which she made the remark went live, the Parks and Recreation actress decided to issue an apology.

To do so, Jones hit up the Twitter account she’s still excited about having started and offered the following generic mea culpa…

The remark in question was made during a passionate conversation about Frank Ocean with Spinning Platters. The actress is a big fan of the singer and a big fan of people being proud of who they are and living their lives openly. Naturally, the conversation moved to how excited Rashida was when Ricky Martin came out and later to how she wishes someone huge would come out.

It’s easy to see why Rashida made the comment she did, and it’s also easy to see why it probably wasn’t the nicest thing to say. Travolta has a wife and children and has firmly denied he’s a homosexual. Coming out is an intensely personal decision, and it’s foolish and unfair to try and out others, especially when they might not even be gay.

That being said, now that she’s apologized, there’s really no reason to ever talk about this again.

There doesn't seem to be anything that Rashida Jones can't do. Or if there is, I certainly haven't seen it. She's a great actor with wonderful comedic timing who also happens to occasionally sing (her father is Quincy Jones) and writes her own comic book series ("Frenemy of the State"). Jones recently turned her unbounded talents to screenwriting, co-authoring a small film called Celeste And Jesse Forever with fellow actor Will McCormack.

It's the pair's first attempt at writing a movie and Jones stars as Celeste opposite Andy Samberg's Jesse. Oh, McCormack is in the film too, as Skillz, but I don't think you get a glimpse of him in this first trailer. Directed by Lee Toland Krieger (just his second film after The Vicious Kind), Celeste And Jesse Forever is about the two titular best friends who also happen to be going through a divorce. Yes, from each other, but that doesn't mean they can't hang out. Right? Take a look (trailer via iTunes Movie Trailers).

After a pretty good showing in Sundance - Katey called it a "low-key charmer" in her review - Sony Pictures Classics picked up the odd twist on the romantic dramedy, which, by the looks of it, seems heavier on the drama. I'm definitely looking forward to the film and seeing a different side of Samberg, but mainly I'm interested in watching Jones in a leading role. She's proven herself with countless supporting roles, whether opposite comedy big shots Paul Rudd and Jason Segel in I Love You, Man or being quietly perfect onParks and Recreation, and I just want to see more.

Celeste And Jesse Forever also looks beautiful (the soft blues and creams, with some pink) and the last 30 seconds or so, with Porcelain Raft's "Drifting In and Out" playing, is perfectly cut. The film also boasts an excellent supporting cast including Elijah Wood, Ari Graynor, Eric Christian Olsen, Emma Roberts and Chris Messina. It opens August 3, 2012.

Rashida Jones has shown talent as an actress for years now, but she often gets stuck in straight-man supporting roles, whether on The Office and Parks & Recreation or in I Love You, Man and The Social Network. With Celeste & Jesse Forever, Jones is taking matters into her own hands, co-writing the script with another actor, Will McCormack, who's also got a long line of supporting roles behind him. We meet Jones's Celeste and Jesse (Andy Samberg) as they start taking the meaning of the title to a whole new level, maintaining a deep and affectionate friendship despite the fact that they're ending their six-year marriage.

That might seem like a preposterous or overly quirky concept-- the anti-romantic comedy, you could say-- but Celeste & Jesse really sells it from the beginning, letting us see Celeste and Jesse's easy rapport and inside jokes before we realize they've already split up. Their goal of an easy divorce and a continued friendship is impossible, of course, but they're both trying to be good to each other, something that's rare enough in actual romantic comedies, much less stories of divorce. Though the movie is well-aware of the conventional romantic comedy three-act structure, and makes nods to it now and then-- a climactic wedding toast, a montage or two-- the story unfolds in a shaggier and more realistic way, with Celeste throwing herself into work while Jesse hopes for a reconciliation, and then one big twist forcing them on to decidedly separate paths.

Though Samberg nicely handles his dramatic scenes and eliminates all the shtick you might expect from SNL, Jones is the clear standout, playing Celeste first as a somewhat typical career-driven 30-something, but then slowly falling apart as the divorce takes a toll she never expected. Whether getting far too drunk at a bridal shower and falling asleep in the pool, or accepting a bizarre hug from a stranger in a bear costume, Jones throws herself into Celeste's downward spiral with a lack of vanity and an obvious commitment to the character she's created. The material isn't exactly as realistic as Lee Toland Krieger's natural direction would imply-- this is still a polished Los Angeles full of attractive people and opportunities for physical comedy-- but Celeste's broken heart is real, as are many of the stupid and ugly ways she copes with it.

Celeste & Jesse Forever's meandering story means it feels a bit longer than its lean 89 minutes, but there's enough good stuff in there to be worth it, from Jones and McCormack's sharp comic writing to brief but memorable supporting turns from Emma Roberts (as a tarted-up pop star) and Elijah Wood as Celeste's gay coworker. We could have waited a long time for someone else to write a female character as fucked-up and funny and endearing as Celeste, but it took two actors who've played all the bad roles out there to finally create one for Jones that's this good.

It’s Friday. It is so, so close to the weekend (it may even be the weekend where you are) that it is definitely time for some more light-hearted fare. To preface and to be fair, almost all fan-generated content -- revamped trailers, mash-ups, memes, infographics, whatever -- is garbage. It really shows you why some people get paid to do these artistic complements and why others are doing them at home, alone, in their parents' basements. However, if you are going to create fan-art, at least pick a show that everyone loves…better yet, pick two.

That’s exactly what The Smart Sandwich decided to do. Very much like our previously covered love for the Arrested Westeros website, it rubs us just the right way. The two shows in question are not at all similar, but that is what gives these poster mash-ups their charm. Despite the very different tones and subject matter, Parks and Recreation and Game of Thrones actually go together like pickles and gravy…wait. Peanut butter and jelly then. I love these two shows, and to make GoT "house banners" for the characters in P&R is simply genius and hilarious.

The artist behind these banners, posters, or whatever you want to call them included all of our favorite Pawneeans and came up with matching slogans for the houses. My favorite? A tie. Swanson’s eggs-and-bacon-themed look with the motto "Rectangle. America. Megaphone. Monday. Butthole." And the sleek and simple House Haverford’s DJ Roomba graphic with "Treat yo self" as his motto. Parks and Recreation airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC. It stars Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Rashida Jones, Adam Scott, and Rob Lowe. Game of Thrones will return to HBO on evenings Sundays in April 2012. It stars (those who remain) Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Kit Harington (and many more). It is based on George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series and was adapted for television for D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.

In addition to being one of the most stealthily hilarious people on Parks & Recreation, Rashida Jones is a screenwriter, and is about to see her first script, co-written with Will McCormack, go into production. She'll also star in Celeste and Jesse Forever opposite Andy Samberg as a young couple recently divorced who are trying, with limited success, to remain friends. The supporting cast has been developing into something dynamite over the last few weeks, with Emma Roberts, Ari Graynor and Chris Messina all signing on recently. Now the cast has gotten just a little more awesome, and a lot more Hobbity.

THR reports that Elijah Wood has agreed to play Celeste's business partner, described as "metrosexual" in an article that apparently has been transported from 2003, an era where we pretended that word had any meaning. Wood hasn't really gotten a chance to show off his comedic skills in the last few years, at least not in live-action movies that people have actually seen (there's always Happy Feet), so this might be a nice part for the actor we all still primarily associate with Frodo Baggins. This isn't his only chance, though-- Wood is also starring in the FX series Wilfred, described as a "dark comedy" and premiering June 23. You've gotta feel proud of the kid we once knew as the boy playing the video game at the 80s Cafe in Back to the Future 2-- well, maybe I'm the only person who thinks of him that way.

When Our Idiot Brother premiered at Sundance in January-- under the title My Idiot Brother-- it was the star-filled comedy that absolutely everybody at the festival had to catch. Well, everybody except me-- I somehow showed up too late to find a seat in a 3,000 theater auditorium on a Sunday morning. So I'll be anticipating this summer comedy along with everybody else, and even more so now that I've gotten a look at the first trailer, which popped up online over the weekend and you can watch embedded below.

The supporting cast is undeniable-- Rashida Jones, Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks, Kathryn Hahn and Hugh Dancy all find their way in there-- but the reason we're all dying to see it, of course, is Paul Rudd, with his mane of matted hair and terrible tank tops and all. Rudd has a knack for becoming the best part of pretty much any movie he's in, and it's nice to see that Our Idiot Brother relieves him from having to be a scene stealer, simply putting him at the center of the movie where he has always belonged. Our Idiot Brother, directed by Important Things With Demetri Martin alum Jesse Peretz, hits theaters on August 26.

For a while it seemed Rashida Jones would be permanently stuck in the role of the pretty, funny-ish but ultimately disposable girl in a comedy-- it happened to Karen on The Office, to her fiancee character Zooey in I Love You Man, and at first to Ann Perkins, her nurse character on Parks & Recreation. But as that show has gotten better it's done far more with Ann, allowing Jones to get just as zany as her co-stars and prove her comedic chops; at the same time she's popped up in a small role in The Social Network and the dramatic indie Monogamy, proving she's got more serious skills in there too.

On top of it all, Jones is trying her hand as a screenwriter, and now funding has finally come together for her romantic comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever. The LA Times reports that Jones and Andy Samberg will co-star as a divorcing couple trying to stay friends; as Jones describes the story, "Our movie is about two people who love each other a ton but they don't know what to do with that love, and how do you let that person go." Jones wrote the script with a fellow actor Will McCormack, and two years ago it was picked up by the specialty arm Fox Atomic, which was shuttered not long after. In a weird streak of bad luck it next went to Overture Films, which also shut down; now it's going into production with independent financing from people who previously brought you Memento and Prime.

The director, Lee Toland Krieger, has a connection to Jones's Parks & Recreation co-star Adam Scott, having directed him in the indie The Vicious Kind, which earned Scott an Independent Spirit Awards nomination. Celeste and Jesse will be a little more comedic, but Jones insists to the LA Times it has a dramatic streak as well-- "It's the version of 'When Harry Met Sally' 20 years later, or 'Blue Valentine.' It's really about how you break up with someone.'" Filming starts this spring before Samberg goes off to shoot I Hate You Dad with Adam Sandler. I cannot wait to see this one.

I enjoy the hubbub of Oscar season more than most people, I'll admit, but I don't think I'm alone in looking forward to the annual Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, hitting every February in the thick of Oscar season, with an artfully photographed cover image that is always designed to get attention, whether for allowing Tom Ford to weirdly seduce naked Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley or simply collecting a huge number of talented young actresses. You never quite know that they're going to do from year to year, and with this year's cover, they've both returned to their classic format and done something somewhat unique and bizarre.

In the cover preview that VF posted on their website you can see the full sprawling photo, featuring 15 actors of both genders, and in age ranging from 20-year-old Jennifer Lawrence to 80-year-old Robert Duvall. And though the covers have always featured a bizarre range of A-list stars, up-and-comers and a grab bag of Oscar nominees-- my friend Nathaniel Rogers did a great retrospective of the covers over at The Film Experience if you want to look back-- this year's collection seems especially strange. I guess Olivia Wilde is a reasonable rising star to include, especially if she's willing to wear only half a dress, but how did her Tron: Legacy co-star Garrett Hedlund also sneak in? I love Rashida Jones as much as the next person, but how'd she wind up in there alongside people who mostly do film work? And is Robert Duvall photoshopped in there, or did they really just jam him in a corner like that? According to the behind the scenes tale, the photo is actually from two separate shoots in New York and LA, so there's at least some trickery going on.

December 25, 2011 cannot get here soon enough. For those uninformed, that is the day that the Muppets make their triumphant return to cinemas after an 11 year absence. Formally known as The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made (the project is now listed as untitled), the film already stars Jason Segel (who also wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller) and it was announced last week that Amy Adams was considering a role. Now it looks like two more are coming on board.

THR reports that Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones are in negotiations to join the unnamed Muppet movie. Directed by James Bobin, the films sees our furry friends in trouble when their movie studio is threatened, leaving them no choice but to put on a show. Segel will play the main human in the film, helping the Muppets make their movie, Adams will play Segel's girlfriend, Jones will play an ABC television executive and Cooper will be the villain, who not only wants to destroy the studio so that he may get to the oil underneath, but also doesn't find the Muppets amusing (I know, I can't believe it either).

This movie can honestly not get here soon enough. Much like Beverly Cleary books, I've never met someone who's childhood didn't involve the Muppets in some way. That said, how are people in "negotiations" to join a Muppet movie? I can't speak for everyone, but I'd pay them to involved. There would be nothing to negotiate.

Rashida Jones is best known in her Hollywood career as a series of pretty girls surrounded by funnier people-- she's been an excellent straight woman in TV"s The Office and Parks and Recreation as well as last year's I Love You Man. But in Celeste and Jesse Forever, Jones won't just get to be the star, but she also wrote the screenplay with Will McCormack. And now that King of Kong director Seth Gordon has signed on to direct the thing, it's up to him to help Jones bring the whole idea to life.

Variety reports that they're still looking for a male lead for the film, which is aiming to get started in April. Jones would play one half of a young couple in the midst of a divorce who try to keep up a friendship while starting the painful process of dating other people. McCormack will play a supporting role, presumably since they want a guy with a bigger name to step into the lead.

Gordon's first foray into feature directing was the misguided Four Christmases, but given how acclaimed King of Kong was, you imagine a better script might help him turn it all around. And Jones, after all, is more than just a pretty face-- she's a Harvard grad. I have a good feeling this will turn out better than Gordon's last movie.
