Flashback to 2021, and you couldn't find a bigger hater of the Snyderverse than me. Hell, I even danced on its grave when we received word that it was finally over.

However, flash-forward (DC pun not intended) to 2026, and I've actually come around on the failed DCEU. Maybe it's because I wasn't in love with James Gunn's Superman, or perhaps it’s because I have no interest whatsoever in Supergirl (and apparently, I'm not alone), but I've been giving Zack Snyder's DC movies another chance recently, and oh, man. I think I owe Zack Snyder yet ANOTHER apology.

You see, I already apologized for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and after rewatching the four hour long Zack Snyder's Justice League, I have to apologize again, because this movie is amazing. Here's why.

I Originally Thought This Movie Was Way Too Long. But Now, It Feels Just Right When It Comes To Pacing

You want to know what's crazy? Not too long ago, I rewatched Joss Whedon's version of Justice League, which is only two hours long, and it's so bad that it actually feels LONGER than Snyder's version, which is literally double the runtime. I think this is because Whedon's Justice League feels aimless and dull, whereas Snyder's version has direction and vision. And look, no offense to Whedon, as he was given the impossible task of reshooting aspects of Snyder's movie into something feasible for the big screen, but his version just does not work.

However, after rewatching Zack Snyder's Justice League, I am in awe at how he was able to take all of these characters and still have it all make sense. For example, in his version, Batman and Wonder Woman's quest to assemble a team really feels cohesive and organic, whereas in Whedon’s version, it all feels like a hurried mess, which is strange because it also feels plodding.

We get more backstory for all of the characters in Snyder’s version, as well as a true villain in Darkseid, who I'll get into later. Snyder's version is also (surprise, surprise) way darker in tone than Whedon's version, which is also something I now appreciate over the more upbeat Superman from James Gunn.

Honestly, it's really weird that all of the things that I once hated about the Snyderverse – the overseriousness, the darker tone, etc – I now view as pluses. However, I think there's one reason in particular why I love this movie now.

Cyborg's Story Is The Heart Of This Movie

One character who I always thought never got his time to shine when it came to the Snyderverse was Cyborg. Played by Ray Fisher, you could tell that he had a bigger role in Whedon's Justice League, but there was just something…missing.

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, however, almost the entire plot hinges on Cyborg’s role in the story. The fact that his role was truncated so much in Whedon’s version just goes to show you why that film felt like such a mess, because Victor Stone's (Cyborg) role is absolutely vital in Snyder's cut.

Stone's father, Silas (Joe Morton), is kidnapped, and Cyborg joins the team. He was a former athlete and had to be reconstructed after a horrible car accident, so his journey as a broken man to one of the saviors of the world is thoughtful and surprisingly heartfelt.

Also, being that Cyborg has such a connection to this film's Macguffin in the Mother Boxes, he’s essentially the most important character in the entire film, and I really appreciate that when watching this a second time.

I Also Find All Of The Characters-Even The Flash-To Be Interesting In This Film

You know, when I first saw Zack Snyder's Justice League, I still very much loathed all of the scenes involving Ezra Miller's The Flash. Upon a second viewing, I find that I actually like him, as well as pretty much every other member of the Justice League this time around. It might be because I, like others, actually enjoyed the eventual Flash movie that came out in 2023 (I even wrote about how it annoyed me that it didn't do better at the box office).

The Flash is incredibly important in this film. When the world starts to be destroyed, The Flash has to reverse the flow of time using the Speed Force, which allows Superman (Henry Cavill) and Cyborg to get the job done.

And, what about Aquaman? I liked Jason Momoa's first Aquaman movie - to a certain extent - but I found him super annoying in Justice League. However, I guess adding more screen time for him makes him more interesting this time around. I also think that learning more about the other metahumans and the Atlanteans makes him feel more at home here.

Not only that, but this movie has freaking Martian Manhunter (Harry Lennix) in it. I mean, it's at the end, and it's pretty much just a cameo, but at least he's here. What's not to love?

I Also Love This Version Of Darkseid

I know I keep harping on Joss Whedon's Justice League, but a big reason why I feel that movie failed was that its main antagonist, Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds), was super lame. It's just that he didn't seem like a worthy opponent for the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, or The Flash.

In Zack Snyder's Justice League…well, he's still pretty lame, but much better since you don't feel like he's the REAL final boss. The main boss would be Ray Porter's Darkseid, who is a way more terrifying villain and an existential threat to humanity.

Darkseid is all about that Anti-Life Equation, and we learn that he's been a threat to Earth for millennia, what with the Old Gods waging war against him to prevent him from taking over the planet. All of this backstory really elevates the danger he presents, making him feel like a truly worthy adversary.

Unfortunately, since this was pretty much the end of the DCEU, we never got to see Darkseid get his own movie where he got to be the central villain, but I really appreciate what we got in this movie. He’s absolutely horrifying.

In The End, The Further We Get Away From The Snyderverse, The More I Find That I Miss It

When looking at the upcoming slate of DC films (and TV–let's not forget about TV), I think there's a lot to look forward to (Especially when it comes to Clayface, which I can't wait for!) Yet…I kind of now miss the Snyderverse.

I don't know what it is. It might be because I used to pledge allegiance to the MCU, and I think I viewed the DCEU as a pathetic alternative. After getting off the Marvel hype train quite a while ago, I've since been reevaluating the Snyderverse, and I think I had it all wrong.

Was it too dark and broody? Maybe, but upon reflection, it was actually a novel alternative to the overly cheery MCU. I now find that I get nothing out of movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy upon a rewatch, and I view them more as artifacts than anything else.

Movies like Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Batman v. Superman? They just seem to get better with age. So, if you happen to be reading this, Mr. Snyder. I’m sorry! Your fans were right all along, and I’m happy that the powers that be eventually RELEASED THE SNYDER CUT!

The superhero genre's popularity shows no signs of slowing down, especially with DC co-CEO James Gunn's inception of the newly formed DCU. The first slate of projects is called Gods and Monsters, and we've been treated to two shows and a movie so far (which are streaming with an HBO Max subscription). But some fans are still invested in the former DCEU, and when Zack Snyder posted a photo of Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, the responses all said pretty much the same thing.

Zack Snyder recently joined Instagram, and has been posting photos of the DCEU's stars like Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and (you guessed it) Ray Fisher. He famously played Cyborg in both versions of Justice League, and had an especially emotional story in the Snyder Cut. The titular filmmaker recently posted a photo of the actor as Victor Stone, check it out below:

Talk about a striking image. Rather than being in full Cyborg regalia, this shows Fisher covering up half of his face with his hand, while wearing Victor's letterman jacket from Gotham City University. This post was shared to Snyder's 616k followers on Instagram, and the comments section started popping off immediately.

Zack Snyder fans are known for their passion, including the years-long campaign for the Snyder Cut's release. As such, the comments section in this post is very active, with fans wanting Warner Bros. to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse and/or bring back Ray Fisher's Cyborg in the new shared universe. If you've been paying attention to the filmmaker's work and his fans since his version of Justice League was released, this type of response might not be too surprising. Shortly after Zack Snyder's Justice League was released, fans started asking the studio to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. There's no indication that the studio is actually interested in this, especially with James Gunn's new DCU still in its infancy. But that hasn't stopped folks from making their voices heard.

It's currently unclear what Gunn has planned for Cyborg and if/when the character might pop up in upcoming DC movies or TV shows. The DCEU was retconned out of existence in Peacemaker's Season 2 premiere, and with it Ray Fisher's signature character.

While Cyborg was the heart of Zack Snyder's Justice League, Ray Fisher's allegations against Zack Snyder and the powers that be at Warner Bros. in some ways overshadowed his work in the DCEU. While there's no indication that he's going to play Cyborg again a future DC title, the actor has continued working with Snyder on the Rebel Moon franchise (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription).

Fisher's work in both version of Justice League are available now on HBO Max. Looking to the future, he's attached to a number of films on the 2026 movie release list and beyond.

Actor Ray Fisher has a number of projects under his belt, but he's perhaps best known for playing Cyborg in both cuts of Justice League (which are streaming with a Max subscription). The 37 year-old performer is also synonymous with his beef with DC, specifically some of the folks who were in charge during the time he was in the DCEU. Now Fisher is speaking out after his DC controversy, talking his career resurgence with his new movie role. He was even quoted saying "I don't want to feel resentful."

While Ray Fisher said that Justice League's reshoots were "full of resentment", he's seemingly trying to put that saga behind him. While speaking with Variety about his new movie The Piano Lesson at the Toronto International Film Festival, he got real about facing "hardships", just like the characters of the film. In his words:

It's easy to connect the dots of Fisher's comments to his time on the Justice League set, as well as the feud that would form between him and former WB boss Walter Hamada. The actor used his platform to call out the studio for years, while his acting career seemingly came to a halt.

While Fisher returned to the screen with Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon franchise (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription), his role in The Piano Lesson is a serious gig, as it's adapting the play of the same name by August Wilson. Later in his same interview with Variety, he spoke about not wanting to be bogged down by resentment, just like his character in the new movie. As Fisher put it:

It sounds like art and life met in a big way for The Piano Lesson, and it should be fascinating to see how that translates to his performance in the film. Could this be the start of his larger comeback in the world of Hollywood? Only time will tell, but Ray Fisher seemingly doesn't want to be caught up in his feelings about Justice League any longer.

With the DCEU officially in the rear view, some fans are wondering if Fisher might end up appearing in an upcoming DC movie for James Gunn's new shared universe. The first slate of projects is titled Gods and Monsters, but Gunn's plans for casting are largely a mystery at this time.

Warning: SPOILERS for Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire are ahead! 

Director Zack Snyder put actor Ray Fisher on the map when he cast him to play Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. While both men ended up leaving the DC Extended Universe under less-than-ideal circumstances, they recently got to team back up on Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, which is now available for Netflix subscribers to stream. 

In sharp contrast to Justice League though, Fisher’s Rebel Moon character Darrian Bloodaxe was ditched pretty quickly, only racking up somewhere between 5-10 minutes of screen time total before meeting his demise. However, it does look like we’ll see a little bit more from the character in Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, which arrives in a few months time on the Netflix movie and TV schedule. That begs the question, will he play an important role in the second half of this sci-fi epic? But before we get into that, let’s get into where we left off with Darrian in A Child of Fire.

What Happened To Darrian Bloodaxe in Rebel Moon Part One

Although Darrian and his sister Devra are repeatedly mentioned in Rebel Moon Part One as the leaders of the insurgency against Regen Balisarius’ Imperium, we don’t meet them until well past the movie’s halfway mark, and they don’t stay together for long. While Devra believes Kora’s mission to protect the inhabitants of Veldt from Admiral Atticus Noble is a fool’s errand, Darrian considers it worth the effort. So he and some of the rebels join the main group of heroes, while Devra and her remaining troops find a new place to lay low.

That one decision proved to be Darrian’s undoing, as he, Kora and her other allies are betrayed soon after by the criminal Kai, who forces them into a trap that has Noble awaiting on the other side. While Gunnar courageously freeing Kora allowed the protagonists to fight back against their captors, it was Darrian Bloodaxe sacrificing his life to bring down Noble’s ship that allowed the survivors to flee the planet. Rebel Moon co-writer Kurt Johnstad told CinemaBlend that he was “heartbroken” to deliver that tragic twist to Ray Fisher’s character, but said it had to happen to amplify the arcs of other characters, like Devra and Millius.

How Will Darrian Bloodaxe Fit Into Rebel Moon Part Two?

So Darrian Bloodaxe is dead, and that’s the end of that, right? Evidently not. There’s a shot of the character in the Rebel Moon Part Two trailer on a battlefield, though there’s no context for what’s going on. It’s also possible that this shot won’t end up in what’s considered Part Two’s “theatrical” cut and will instead be saved for the director’s cut, just like Part One is getting soon. But for the sake argument, let’s just assume that shot remains intact for what people will see in a few months.

The most logical explanation is that this is simply a flashback showing an earlier conflict in Darrian’s life. As mentioned, his death is meant to play into Devra’s storyline, so we may see her recalling one of the many times she fought alongside her brother. It would a fitting way to flesh out their backstory and perhaps entice some viewers to read the Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe comic book series. If that’s the case though, it stands to reason he also won’t have much screen time in this movie either.

However, Rebel Moon Part One’s cliffhanger ending delivered one hell of a twist through Atticus Noble being brought back to life by Motherworld forces after he was killed by Kora. Now, it stands to reason that not just anyone in this galaxy can access this miraculous technology, but now there’s at least a chance that Darrian’s body might be recovered and also resurrected. I’ll also entertain the notion that this is a clone of Darrian rather than the original man... a little bit. If it ends up being either of these two unlikelier options, then we might have a case for Darrian playing a bigger role in The Scargiver.

The good news is we won’t have to wait that long for this mystery to be solved, as Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver will hit Netflix on April 12. Before then, though, expect Part One’s director’s cut to be released, with its additional content including a lot more of Anthony Hopkins’ Jimmy.

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire are ahead!

Ray Fisher got his start in Hollywood when Zack Snyder cast him to play Cyborg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, and there were once plans for him to lead a Cyborg solo movie. While that project never materialized and Fisher ultimately cut ties with DC, he scored another opportunity to work with Snyder thanks to Rebel Moon, one of the latest releases on the Netflix movie schedule. Sadly though, Fisher’s character, Darrian Bloodaxe, met a tragic demise towards the end of the first half of this story, A Child of Fire, and writer Kurt Johnstad explained to CinemaBlend why this twist that left him “heartbroken” had to happen.

Darrian’s time with Kora and her allies proved to be short-lived, because after Charlie Hunnam’s Kai betrayed them and led them to a trap that had Atticus Noble and his Imperium forces waiting on the other side, the brother of Devra Bloodaxe sacrificed his life to destroy Noble’s ship. Johnstad, who worked on Rebel Moon’s script with Snyder and Shay Hatten, had this to say when I asked him why Darrian was the right pick to make the big sacrifice amongst the other recruits:

After an unspecified amount of time leading the insurgency against Regent Balisarius (which will be explored in the upcoming Rebel Moon comic book series), A Child of Fire saw Devra and Darrian going their separate ways, with the latter believing in Kora’s mission to protect Veldt, while the former felt it wasn’t a cause worthy of their time. As Kurt Johnstad has now revealed, it was necessary for Darrian to die not only to push Devra’s storyline further in Part Two — The Scargiver, but to also show how just because you like a character, that doesn’t mean they can avoid being casualties in a greater conflict, as has been the case countless times with historical figures.

But it’s not just Devra Bloodaxe who will be impacted by Darrian’s death in the second part of Rebel Moon, which will be released to Netflix subscribers on April 19, 2024. Johnstad also brought up E. Duffy’s Millius, one of the Bloodaxe rebellions soldiers who tagged along with Darrian when he joined up with Kora’s group to look after him. The writer continued:

Although Darrian Bloodaxe’s sacrifice helped Kora and her allies win this particular battle, the war is far from over. A Child of Fire ended with the surprising twist of Noble being resurrected and tasked by Regent Balisarius to eradicate the insurgency against him and to bring Kora to him alive so he can execute his adopted daughter personally. The Rebel Moon — Part Two trailer teased the new team of sci-fi heroes going to war, and while they seem vastly outmatched, hopefully one of their saving graces will come in the form of Devra. After all, when she learns what happened to her brother, surely she’ll want to hightail it to the farming colony with her fighters to unleash her fury on Noble and his army.

One of the many titles on Netflix’s 2023 movie schedule is Rebel Moon, a new science fiction epic that comes from the mind of Zack Snyder. The film appears to be a serious cinematic feat, for which the director has assembled an impressive cast. Ray Fisher is among the ensemble and appears to be playing quite the imposing role. This production marks Fisher’s first collaboration with Snyder since Justice League and the drama that surrounded the DC flick. Now, Fisher is getting candid about what it’s been like to reunite with his collaborator following the debacle. 

Ray Fisher owes a great deal to Zack Snyder, as the 300 helmer is the person who cast him as Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg in the DC Extended Universe and essentially jump-started his film career. The two seem to have forged a solid relationship while working together, and both have been in each other’s corners in multiple instances. With all of that in mind, Fisher was incredibly enthusiastic when he spoke with Business Insider and discussed what it meant to work alongside his “brother” again: 

That’s some serious praise coming from the Piano Lesson actor, and it’s great to hear that he’s developed such a bond with the filmmaker. Their relationship remained rock solid following the Sucker Punch director’s exit from Justice League and amid the drama that followed. In 2020, the star accused Joss Whedon (who took over JL directing duties after Zack Snyder exited due to the death of his daughter) of “abusive” and “gross” behavior. He’d later assert that execs at Warner Bros. and DC enabled Whedon’s alleged actions. Since the tense situation, which included an internal investigation, the True Detective alum has moved on to other endeavors. He did, however, show support amid the campaign to get Snyder’s cut of the DC team-up movie released and, after it was, the star praised its success on Max (then HBO Max). 

The duo’s latest collaboration is shaping up to be a very different kind of flick for them. The Netflix production centers on a young warrior (Sofia Boutella) in search of redemption, who assembles a group of warriors to make a stand against the oppressive government that dominates their universe. As part of the Rebel Moon cast, Ray Fisher plays the role of Darrian Bloodaxe, one of the fighter’s who’s recruited by the lead protagonist. Later in his recent interview, Fisher excitedly teased the upcoming 2023 new movie release: 

If the epic trailers for Rebel Moon are anything to go by, it would seem that the director isn’t holding back with his latest sprawling tale, which will be split into multiple movies. Fans of his seem to be relishing the fact that he has more cinematic stories on the way. But perhaps what they might especially appreciate is the fact that the work has also allowed him the opportunity to join forces with Ray Fisher again in the aftermath of a rocky time.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire will hit theaters for a limited release on December 15 before it becomes available for Netflix subscribers to stream on December 21.

Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington recently spent four months together as the stars of the Broadway revival of August Wilson’s play The Piano Lesson. Following the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama becoming wildly popular on the stage, Jackson and Washington are returning to their roles in The Piano Lesson, alongside a talented cast. It will be among the many Netflix new releases to look forward to. 

Netflix has announced plans to bring The Piano Lesson to its streaming service in a movie that has Denzel Washington’s family all over it. Along with Tenet’s John David Washington set to star, Denzel’s other son Malcolm Washington is directing and co-writing, with Denzel Washington producing along with Katie Washington – one of his daughters – executive producing. Additionally, Justice League’s Ray Fisher, Till’s Danielle Deadwyler and Straight Outta Compton's Corey Hawkins are among the cast. 

Ray Fisher was central to the Warner Bros. DC drama when his role as Cyborg was shortchanged, but the actor has been nabbing up some exciting projects as of late. The Piano Lesson could be a big opportunity for the actor along with re-teaming with Zack Snyder for the upcoming Netflix space epic, Rebel Moon. 

The Piano Lesson follows an African-American family in 1936 following the Great Depression and what comes of their family piano, which is adorned with designs carved by their enslaved ancestors. The content of the play features the ongoing arguments of a brother and sister, who have different ideas about what to do with the family heirloom. The play was previously adapted into a movie in 1995 starring Charles S. Dutton and Alfre Woodard. 

The recent Broadway revival played from September 2022 to late January 2023, and became both the highest-grossing revival of a play on Broadway and the highest-grossing Wilson production on Broadway of all time in those four months. A ton of big names also came to see Jackson and Washington in the revival, including Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Chris Rock, and Robert De Niro. Additionally, Jackson had reunions with Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, who supported him by attending, and Pulp Fiction co-star Uma Thurman, who came to the production and hung out with Jackson backstage as well.  

Netflix previously adapted the August Wilson play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom in 2020 and it went on to win two Oscars out of a total five nominations. Denzel Washington also previously starred in 2016’s Fences with Viola Davis based on a Wilson play, which Davis won an Oscar for and the movie scored four nominations for overall. 

With The Piano Lesson, John David Washington not only follows in his father’s footsteps by being in a movie adaptation of a Wilson play, but Netflix could have another awards contender on its hands with the star-studded cast. We’re excited to see what the whole cast does with the material! 

The DC Extended Universe is going through a series of major changes right now. James Gunn and Peter Safran were named co-CEOs, and the two filmmakers are seemingly focused on giving the shared universe more direction and a sense of cohesiveness. But they’ve been the subject of some backlash, thanks to bold concepts like dropping Henry Cavill’s Superman. And Gunn has responded to Ray Fisher calling him out on Twitter about DC work.

Actor Ray Fisher played Cyborg in Justice League, and has been a vocal critic of the leadership at the DCEU. That’s seemingly continued since James Gunn was given his new leadership role, with Fisher accusing the Guardians of the Galaxy director of deleting previous tweets that were critical of the studio. The situation eventually went viral enough that Gunn responded on his own Twitter, you can see their interaction below:

Well, there you have it. It looks like James Gunn didn’t delete his tweets to Ray Fisher purposefully. Instead, his feed seemingly deletes itself every few months. While he didn’t go into the inner workings of what’s happening at the DCEU, he denied any nefarious intent with his Twitter. We’ll just have to see if the Cyborg actor responds to this ongoing dialogue.

James Gunn’s tweet to Ray Fisher came as the 35 year-old actor claimed that the filmmaker was using “fake grace” when addressing the shake-ups currently happening at DC. Fisher cited a previous interaction he had with Gunn online, regarding allegations about Joss Whedon’s behavior on the set of the Justice League reshoots. When Fisher found that Gunn’s tweets were no longer available to see, he seemingly assumed this was a sneaky move made on behalf of the studio. Although that’s been debunked by the Peacemaker director. 

Given the strong feelings attached to superhero franchises and the DCEU, James Gunn and Peter Safran have definitely been getting some flak online. Gunn recently addressed the toxicity that is also present, while clarifying and responding to various rumors that are currently circulating around social media. But regardless of the discourse, it’s clear that the new CEOs have a clear vision for the shared universe that isn’t going to be influenced by fan chatter.

As previously mentioned, moviegoers were shocked when it was revealed that Henry Cavill wasn’t returning to the role of Superman after all, despite making an announcement and his recent cameo in Black Adam. This set the internet ablaze, and fans have been tweeting at James Gunn and sliding into his DMs with various questions and theories. While he’s largely been keeping his plans close to the chest, Gunn has been generous enough to directly communicate with the fandom.

The next installment in the DCEU is Shazam! Fury of the Gods on March 17th. In the meantime, check out the 2023 movie release dates to plan your trips to the theater in the New Year. We’ll just have to see what DC projects end up coming down the line. 

Following his time in the DC Extended Universe helming Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and his version of Justice League (not to be confused with Joss Whedon’s theatrical version),  Zack Snyder made the jump to Netflix, first directing the zombie heist movie Army of the Dead for the platform. In addition to helping craft the prequel Army of Thieves, Snyder will helm the direct sequel Planet of the Dead, but the filmmaker isn’t just delivering tales involving the undead to Netflix subscribers. He also has a sci-fi epic out called Rebel Moon.

Originally envisioned as a Star Wars movie that Zack Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm prior to the company being purchased by Disney, Rebel Moon sees a peaceful colony at the edge of the galaxy called Veldt being threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, leader of the Mother World. In response, the colony’s citizens task a young woman with a mysterious past to recruit warriors from nearby planets to help them take a stand against Balisarius and his forces. Among the things we know about Rebel Moon is that the tale, which Snyder co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, has been split into two movies shot back-to-back. 

An impressive collection of actors has been assembled for this story, including Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam and Justice League’s Ray Fisher. But before we get to them, let’s talk about who’s playing the main protagonist.

Sofia Boutella

The enigmatic woman in Rebel Moon who’s seeking warriors to help protect Veldt, her adopted homeworld, is named Kora, and she's a deserter of the Imperium. Kora will be played by Sofia Boutella, who made a big splash in the mid-2010s starring in blockbusters like Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond, The Mummy and Atomic Blonde. In more recent years, Boutella has appeared in Prisoners of the Ghostland, Settlers, SAS Rogue Heroes and the “The Viewing” episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, which also streams on Netflix. Since Kora is Rebel Moon’s main protagonist, it goes without saying she didn't die, so we'll see more of her in Rebel Moon Part 2.

Charlie Hunnam

As indicated earlier, Charlie Hunnam collected a lot of fans from his time playing Jax Teller in the FX series Sons of Anarchy, and he jumped back into the TV realm in 2022 to lead Shantaram, which can be streamed with an Apple TV+ subscription. Film-wise, Hunnam’s credits include Children of Men, Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Triple Frontier and The Gentlemen. The actor appears in Rebel Moon as Kai, a mercenary who pilots the Tawau-Class freighter, which is "invaluable" to Kora's quest, although there proves to be more to him than meets the eye.

Ray Fisher

It’s not exaggerating to say that Zack Snyder launched Ray Fisher’s film career, as the actor’s first cinematic credit was cameoing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg. Fisher then made his full debut as Cyborg in Justice League, and in addition to Zack Snyder’s Justice League showing off his original performance as the cybernetic superhero, the actor also came back to shoot new footage for the four-hour cut. Fisher had been set to reprise Cyborg in The Flash, but he was written out after he refused to work on any project involving then-DC Films president Walter Hamada. Post-DCEU, Fisher has starred in True Detective Season 3 and the ABC limited series Women of the Movement, and he's since re-teamed with Snyder on Rebel Moon, where he's played Darrian Bloodaxe, an insurgent who's been targeting the Imperium with guerilla attacks.

Ed Skrein

The powerful Regent Balisarius is the source of conflict in Rebel Moon’s story, and Ed Skrein will appear as his right-hand man, Admiral Atticus Noble, a nefarious Imperium enforcer and commandant of the space cruiser called The King's Gaze. Skrein is no stranger to playing villains, as evidenced by his work in Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel. You may also recognize him from If Beale Street Could Talk, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Midway and Naked Singularity, as well as being the first Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones. As revealed in Rebel Moon's surprise ending, Skrein will be back for Rebel Moon Part 2 despite initial appearances to the contrary.

Djimon Hounsou

Although Rebel Moon marks the first time that Djimon Hounsou and Zack Snyder have worked together, like Ray Fisher, Hounsou has some DCEU experience under his belt from playing The Wizard in Shazam!, Black Adam and the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods, as well as voicing King Ricou in Aquaman. Hounsou also lent his talents to the MCU as Korath in Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, and his other notable credits include Amistad, Gladiator, Blood Diamond, Constantine, Furious 7, A Quiet Place Part II and The King’s Man. In Rebel Moon, Hounsou plays General Titus; we got an intense portrait of the actor in character in May 2022, and it was later revealed that Titus is a "hardened gladiator" who once served the Imperium.

Anthony Hopkins

While we don't see Anthony Hopkins in Rebel Moon, we will hear him as the voice of Jimmy, “an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.” (Dustin Ceithamer physically portrays Jimmy.) Kora met Jimmy during her time on Veldt, where the robot surprisingly came to her aid during a tense conflict, then disappeared to parts unknown. Rebel Moon's extended cut will flesh out the character's backstory. Along with this movie, Hopkins’ recent credits include Thor: Ragnarok, The Father, The Son, Armageddon Time and HBO’s Westworld.

Jena Malone

Rebel Moon marks Jena Malone’s third collaboration with Zack Snyder, having previously played Rocket in Sucker Punch and Jenet Klyburn in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s “Ultimate Edition.” Malone is also well known for playing Johanna Mason in the latter three Hunger Games movies, Hope Harlingen in Inherent Vice and Sage Ross in Nocturnal Animals. Along with Rebel Moon, where she plays a spider warrior named Harmada who's terrorizing the mining village of Daggus, Malone is part of the ensemble cast for Kevin Costner’s Western saga Horizon.

Cary Elwes

Although Cary Elwes is still arguably best known for starring as Westley/DreadPirate Roberts in The Princess Bride and Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the Saw movies, the man’s popped up in a fair amount of high-profile projects over the last several years. Stranger Things fans will remember him as Mayor Larry Kline in Season 3, he had a stint on the Amazon Prime Video as Gavin Hawk in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, he starred as Professor Gelson in the Black Christmas remake and also was paired with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning. Elwes plays the Imperium king who was assassinated, allowing Balisarius to declare himself regent.

Corey Stoll

Superhero genre fans will recognize Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket, in Ant-Man, and in 2021, he played supporting roles in The Many Saints of Newark and West Side Story. TV viewers, on the other hand, may have seen Stoll in shows like House of Cards, The Strain, Girls and Billions. Either way, Rebel Moon is the actor’s second time working on a Netflix project, having previously recurred in the first season of the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel Ratched. In Rebel Moon, he plays Sindri, a village chief on Veldt.

Cleopatra Coleman

After kicking off her acting career appearing in various Australian movies and TV shows, Cleopatra Coleman gained popularity stateside starring with Will Forte in The Last Man on Earth. Following that show’s conclusion, Coleman led the short-lived TV series White Famous with Jamie Foxx, appeared in the Netflix movie In the Shadow of the Moon and recurred in five episodes of Hulu’s Dopesick, among other projects. Rebel Moon is arguably her most blockbuster-y project yet; she plays Devra, Darrian Bloodaxe's sister who has similar powers as him and is recruited at the same time to Kora's cause.

Fra Fee

Although it was initially reported that Skrein was playing Regent Balisarius in Rebel Moon, it was later clarified that Fra Free was playing that character instead, making him the story's overarching antagonist since he's the one giving orders to Admiral Atticus Noble. In addition to boast a large number of impressive theatre credits, film fans might recognize Free for playing Courfeyrac in 2012’s Les Misérables or Hench in Amazon’s Cinderella, which came out in 2019. If you’re a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan though, you’ll certainly recognize him as Kazi from Disney+’s Hawkeye series. 

Stuart Martin

Although Rebel Moon is the first time Stuart Martin has been directed by Zack Snyder in a live-action, he is already affiliated with a franchise tied to the filmmaker. That’s because he appeared as Brad Cage, a.k.a. Alexis Broschini, in the previously-mentioned Army of Thieves, which was directed by its lead actor, Matthias Schweighöfer. Martin also starred in the entirety of the Jamestown series and has been playing Detective Inspector William Wellington in Miss Scarlet and The Duke. Additionally, Martin is voicing a role in Snyder’s upcoming animated series Twilight of the Gods. Martin stars in Rebel Moon as Den, a farmer/hunter on Veldt.

Michiel Huisman

Remember when I said that Ed Skrein was the first actor to play Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones: Well here’s a twist: the second Daario is appearing in Rebel Moon too! Aside from the HBO series, Michiel Huisman’s major TV credits include Treme, Nashville, Orphan Black, The Haunting of Hill House and The Flight Attendant Season 1. Moviegoers might remember him from the likes of World War Z, The Age of Adaline and Kate. Huisman has been cast in Rebel Moon as Gunnar, a farmer on Veldt who "knows little of the galaxy outside of his small, quiet corner of the galaxy," but agrees to accompany Kora on her mission.

Doona Bae

While the majority of Doona Bae's professional endeavors come from her home country of South Korea, as far as her English-speaking work goes, the actress has notably collaborated with The Wachowskis twice, on Cloud Atlas (playing multiple roles) and the Netflix series Sense8. Bae appears in Rebel Moon as Nemesis, "a cyborg sword master whose mechanical hands allow her to wield molten-metal weapons," so expect her to pose trouble for Kora and her allies.

Staz Nair

Yet another Game of Thrones veteran has been looped into Rebel Moon, with Staz Nair having recurred in Seasons 6-8 as Qhono. However, Nair is arguably better known for playing CatCo reporter William Dey in Supergirl’s final two seasons. Rebel Moon is Nair’s second time performing in a feature-length film, and he does so as Tarak, a "noble indentured servant" who shares a special bond with a flying creature known as a Bennu.

Alfonso Herrera

Although most of Alfonso Herrera’s work is in Spanish-language projects, but he has starred in a number of high-profile offerings from the United States. You may know him as Hernando Fuentes from Sense8, Father Tomas Ortega from the short-lived Exorcist TV series, Javier Jimenez in Queen of the South or Javi Elizondro from Ozark. Herrera also voiced Krypto the Superdog for the Latin American version of DC League of Super-Pets, but it’s safe to say that Rebel Moon is his biggest movie yet. He takes part in this sci-fi epic as Cassius, a warrior working for Atticus Noble.

E. Duffy

E. Duffy is a relative newcomer to the acting scene, with their prior credits being the short films Jeanne Alone, Sleepyhead, Lucky Me, Girlfriends and Acid Noir. Rebel Moon is their first time acting in a feature-length film; they playing Milius, a refugee who seeks justice for her home, which fell to Mother World, and does so by joining Darrian and Devra's resistance group.

Charlotte Maggi

Charlotte Maggi also has one of the lighter resumes of the Rebel Moon cast members, having previously appeared in the TV shows MaveriX and Summer Love. Maggi is reportedly playing a character named Sam, a farm girl on Veldt who befriends Jimmy and ends up being the catalyst for Kora to gather warriors to help her protect her community.

Sky Yang

Aside from a minor role in 2018’s Tomb Raider, most of you have likely seen Sky Yang either in the Irish TV series Holding or playing Ruben in two episodes of Paramount+’s Halo series. In Rebel Moon, he plays Aris, a Motherworld soldier who stands up to his comrades' brutality against Sam.

Rhian Rees

Next, we have Rhian Rees, who played Emma in five episodes of the short-lived series Disengaged and has also popped up in the likes of Halloween (the 2018 version), The Send-Off, Nope and the upcoming Damian Chazelle movie Babylon. She briefly appears in Rebel Moon as The Queen, i.e. the late wife to Cary Elwes' King.

Ray Porter

Though Ray Porter has been professionally acting for over 30 years, he gained a lot of fans from Zack Snyder’s camp when he was cast to play Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a role he obviously would have reprised had those Justice League sequels moved forward. For Rebel Moon, he played Hickman, a cruel farmer whom Tarak owed a debt. Porter’s other superhero media experience includes playing Brutus on the short-lived TV series Naomi and voicing additional characters on Teen Titans, and he’s also appeared on shows like Medium, Monk, Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Shameless and Modern Family.

Ingvar Sigurdsson

While the majority of Ingvar Sigurdsson’s credits hail from his native Iceland, the actor has accumulated some appearance in Hollywood productions, including K-19: The Widowmaker, Everest, Justice League (both versions), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Northman. In Rebel Moon, Sigurdsson plays Hagen, a friend of Kora’s, and it's looking like he'll be back for Part 2.

The first half of Rebel Moon, titled A Child of Fire, hit Netflix on December 22, and the second half, titled The Scargiver, will follow on April 19, 2024. Keep your eyes on CinemaBlend for more news about the follow-up movie and other additions to the franchise.

In the aftermath of Warner Bros. Pictures’ merger with Discovery, the film studio has dealt with some major shakeups, particularly on the DC Films side of things. Wonder Twins was shelved after three months of development, Batgirl was scrapped despite having already been shot and DC movies will now solely be released theatrically rather than any saved as exclusives for HBO Max subscribers. Plus, as of a few days ago, Walter Hamada is no longer President of DC Films, and Justice League actor Ray Fisher has responded to the executive’s departure.

Anyone who followed along with the behind-the-scenes turmoil that unfolded on Justice League after Zack Snyder left the production and Joss Whedon took over for extensive reshoots knows that Ray Fisher is no fan of Walter Hamada. Looking over the timeline of Fisher’s connection to the Justice League controversy, you’ll see the Cyborg actor has accused the executive of interfering in the investigation into the claims leveled against Whedon's “abusive” and “unprofessional” behavior, calling him “the most dangerous kind of enabler.” So here’s what Fisher had to say on Twitter in the aftermath of Hamada leaving Warner Bros.

o for Ray Fisher, Walter Hamada’s departure from Warner Bros. is nothing but good news. Fisher also accused Hamada of throwing Justice League producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg “under the bus” during the course of the aforementioned investigation. It’s additionally worth mentioning that Fisher had been set to reprise Cyborg in The Flash in a large role rather than simply cameo, but he was later removed from the upcoming DC movie. While the actor never provided a reason for why WB scrapped his The Flash appearance, Fisher had said in late 2020 that he refused to work on any production associated with Hamada.

Now that Walter Hamada is no longer working at Warner Bros. Pictures, it’ll be interesting to see if Ray Fisher is now willing to jump back into action as Cyborg in the DC Extended Universe, or if he’s ok with leaving that chapter of his professional career behind him. Following a cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Fisher made his full debut as Cyborg, a.k.a. Victor Stone, in Justice League’s theatrical cut. However, Zack Snyder’s Justice League better showcased the popular DC comics superhero as the “heart” of the story, and Fisher also reunited with Snyder to shoot the Knightmare sequence attached to the end of the four-hour cut.

Regarding why Walter Hamada left WB, he was reportedly wasn’t consulted about the decision to scrap Batgirl’s release and had threatened to quit his position. However, Hamada allegedly agreed to stick around until Black Adam opened in theaters. While Dwayne Johnson’s DC movie opened last night to the tune of $7.6 million, evidently Hamada decided to leave a few days ahead of its wide release. In addition to his work at DC Films, Hamada’s time at WB also saw him executive producing horror movies like The Conjuring, Lights Out and IT.

While there have been a number of DC movies lately, none have had the unprecedented life of Justice League. The theatrical cut was greatly changed due to Joss Whedon’s reshoots, resulting in fans campaigning for the Snyder Cut. That four-hour project was finally released last year, and Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has reacted to the continued success of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max.

While anticipation for Justice League was at a fever pitch ahead of its theatrical release, the movie failed to resonate with audiences and critics alike. Warner Bros. eventually allowed Zack Snyder to complete his vision and release it via HBO Max, breaking the internet in the process. It turns out that Zack Snyder’s Justice League continues to pay off for the burgeoning streaming service, with Ray Fisher celebrating by posting on social media:

Touche, Mr. Cyborg. While the existence of the Snyder Cut was a debate that raged online for years, Ray Fisher was one of its most vocal supporters. And that has only continued since Zack Snyder’s Justice League was finally released in March of 2021.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League tops that list, edging out the Oscars favorite Dune, as well as Space Jam: A New Legacy, MonsterVerse release Godzilla vs. Kong, and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. And chatter online hasn’t slowed down, despite a year passing.

The engagement surrounding the Snyder Cut likely results in the movie’s rewatchability. Fans have dissected every frame of the DC flick, which greatly expanded the five-film narrative that the titular filmmaker was in the midst of. Unfortunately, those plans stopped when the theatrical cut of Justice League failed to perform. 

Since Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released to the masses, some fans have been holding out hope to eventually see a sequel. Warner Bros. hasn’t been in contact with Snyder, but moviegoers are interested in the narrative seeds that were planted throughout the movie’s streaming release. The hashtag accompanying these fan theories is #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, and it’s used regularly on posts regarding the franchise.

For his part, Ray Fisher’s role was way bigger in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Indeed, Victor Stone seemed to be the heart of the story, and we got time to truly understand the tragedy of his backstory and familial relationships. But it’s unclear if we’ll ever see Cyborg again, especially given his feud with Joss Whedon and certain higher ups at DC.

The next of these is titled Rebel Moon, which will feature a strong ensemble cast including none other than Cyborg himself, Ray Fisher. Once the news was revealed, Fisher responded with enthusiasm on social media. And fans quickly chimed in, as you can see below.

Ray Fisher is back in front of the camera, and it looks like he’s thrilled to once again be collaborating with Justice League’s Zack Snyder. While the various actors’ roles have yet to be revealed, smart money says Fisher gets something meaty to work with. After all, the Snyder Cut proved just how much acting chops the 34-year old actor has.

Ray Fisher shared his enthusiasm for Rebel Moon over on his personal Twitter account. He’s extremely active on the social media platform, especially when it comes to all things Justice League, including the ongoing investigation into the reshoots. But this time the news is much happier, as Fisher will be reunited with Zack Snyder for an exciting new streaming project. And fans are equally excited.

Since Ray Fisher is heading to the screen alongside Zack Snyder, fans of their work in Justice League started sounding off in the comments. One fan sent a sweet message of support to the Cyborg icon, which reads:

Indeed, Ray Fisher’s talent was truly showcased throughout the four-hour runtime of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While much of his backstory and footage was left on the cutting room floor of the theatrical version, the Snyder Cut made him the heart of the movie. And there’s no telling how that collaboration will play out for Rebel Moon. Another supporter posted,

While information about Rebel Moon is limited, excitement definitely seems like it’s building online. Zack Snyder has found success with Netflix in projects like Army of the Dead and its spinoff, so there’s a positive momentum behind the upcoming streaming project. And joining Ray Fisher including familiar names like Jena Malone, Charlie Hunnam, and Djimon Hounsou.

Zack Snyder's upcoming science-fiction blockbuster Rebel Moon is starting to really get cooking. The filmmaker has already cast a number of talented actors for the Netflix movie, which is going into production soon, but today he nearly doubled the size of the ensemble by adding a Justice League star and an Academy Award-nominee, among others.

The writer/director announced the news on his official Twitter account – posting that Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, and Ray Fisher have all signed deals that will see them take parts in Rebel Moon. Additionally, Netflix has revealed an official plot synopsis for the film via the Netflix Geeked Twitter account, which details Rebel Moon as being about a mysterious woman who goes planet hopping in search of warriors who will stand with her in a fight against an enemy named Regent Balisarius. Rebel Moon will mark the first time that Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, and Doona Bae work with Zack Snyder, but obviously Ray Fisher previously collaborated with the filmmaker on Justice League – playing the role of Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg. Unfortunately there aren't any official details regarding what parts the actors will be playing in the new Netflix blockbuster, but The Hollywood Reporter has some leads on a few character IDs.

According to the trade's sources, Djimon Hounsou will play a character named General Titus, and Ray Fisher is playing a hero called Blood Axe. The report doesn't mention a name for Bae Doona's role, but it says she is "a nemesis who is proficient with a sword."

If all goes according to plan, Rebel Moon may end up being Zack Snyder's most ambitious movie production yet, as it is a two-parter that will see both halves filmed this year. The current schedule will see the blockbuster start principal photography in April and come to an end in November. Release dates have not yet been announced (which is normal for Netflix), but given the scale of the project one has to wonder just how long the post-production process is going to take. If the streaming service were to announce that we won't see the finished product before 2024, I can't say I'd be all that surprised.

With nearly two months still to go before Rebel Moon starts its epic production phase, it's possible that the project still isn't done adding to its impressive cast, so stay tuned for any news or updates on that front. Joss Whedon has been making headlines quite a bit over the past few years, but not for adding another high-profile film or TV show to the superhero, horror or sci-fi genres. The noted filmmaker and showrunner became the center of attention in 2020 when Justice League actor Ray Fisher accused him of exhibiting “gross” and “abusive” behavior on the set of the DC Comics film. And the following year, Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Charisma Carpenter accused him of “harassment” and on-set misconduct. Whedon denied these claims in a recent interview, and Carpenter is responding to his comments on both her and Fisher. 

Charisma Carpenter originally alleged that Joss Whedon “abused his power on numerous occasions” while working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Carpenter also stated that her “performance anxiety” was increased as a result. Additionally, the actress accused him of referring to her as “fat” in the presence of her co-stars while she was pregnant. In a lengthy interview with New York Magazine published earlier this week, Whedon admitted that he was “not mannerly” during that time but also said that the majority of his interactions with the actress were “delightful and charming.” He also added that she “struggled sometimes with her lines, but nobody could hit a punch line harder than her.”

In regard to Ray Fisher, the director asserted that none of his allegations were “true or merited discussing.” He also referred to Fisher as “a malevolent force” and “a bad actor in both senses.” He’d add that he cut down the storyline of Fisher’s Justice League character, Cyborg, because he felt that it “logically made no sense.” Fisher has since responded to the comments and, after the Cordelia Chase actress saw them, she sent some support to the DC actor via Twitter:

In the same interview, Joss Whedon also shared thoughts on Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot. The star previously claimed that Whedon threatened her career while she worked with him on the Justice League set and released a statement on the matter. Whedon responded, saying “I don’t threaten people” and seemed to surmise that since “english is not her first language,” she may not have understood his “flowery” speech. Gadot, in an email, stated that she understood perfectly, and Charisma Carpenter doubled down on the Death on the Nile star's sentiments:

After speaking out about her own experiences last year, the Buffy actress received a wave of support from fans and colleagues. Sarah Michelle Gellar spoke out on the matter, while other series alums like Michelle Trachtenberg and Eliza Dushku joined in with emotional support. Former Angel lead and current SEAL Team star David Boreanaz also reached out via social media. There’s no telling how much longer this drama may continue to play out between Charisma Carpenter and Ray Fisher and Joss Whedon. One thing that seems clear, though, is that Carpenter and Fisher are firmly in the same camp when it comes to their experiences with the once-celebrated director.

While superhero movies are everywhere, none have the unprecedented life of Justice League. The 2017 theatrical cut brought together by Joss Whedon failed to impress audiences and critics alike, eventually leading to the release of Zack Snyder’s four-hour director’s cut. Since then there’s been plenty of drama and accusations about Whedon, and now Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has responded to the director’s viral comments about his acting.

Ray Fisher has been open for years about what it was like working on Justice League once Joss Whedon was brought in to complete the project, with situations happening on set which he deemed to be unacceptable. Whedon recently was interviewed about his various controversies, where he took aim at Fisher “a bad actor in both senses.” Cyborg himself took to social media to respond, posting:

Well, there you have it. While not getting into the nitty gritty of Joss Whedon’s wild new interview, Ray Fisher was able to fire back, while also seemingly brushing off the director’s comments about his character and talent. We’ll just have to see if he returns to social media now that Martin Luther King Jr. day has passed.

The above post comes to us from Ray Fisher’s personal Twitter account, and definitely captured the attention of the public. He’s been using social media to share his experiences with Joss Whedon, claiming that some executives at Warner Bros. and DC tried to cover the drama up. Of course, he’s far from the only actor who has had an issue with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator. In fact, Whedon’s interview also took aim at another member of the League: Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot.

The situation surrounding Ray Fisher and Joss Whedon became public back in 2020, where the actor began sharing his experiences on set, and claimed Whedon was both “abusive” and “unprofessional” when joining the set of Justice League. Said comments have seemingly inspired other colleagues of Whedon’s to come out about their own negative experiences, including a number of Buffy cast members and Gal Gadot.

The recent interview of Joss Whedon by Vulture quickly broke the internet, and inspired new discourse about the Avengers filmmaker’s behavior. This is especially true because he took jabs at both Ray Fisher and Gal Gadot, denying their claims and even maintaining that there was a language barrier between himself as the Wonder Woman star. And just like that, the drama surrounding the “cancelled” director has been reignited.

From this latest report, it’s clear that the drama surrounding Justice League and Joss Whedon will continue for the foreseeable future. Ray Fisher is seemingly determined to bring some accountability to the DCEU for what happened after Zack Snyder departed the set. We’ll just have to see how the situation continues to shake out.

After years of allegations being hurled at writer-director Joss Whedon for such despicable acts as sexual abuse to on-set racism, the Cabin in the Woods helmer took it upon himself to sit down for a multi-day interview where he addresses almost all of the charges levied against him by his ex-wife and former cast members. The interview opens up difficult interrogations regarding his alleged abuse of Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Charisma Carpenter, his verbal abuse of female writers, and admitted affairs he had with fans and journalists. But it’s the passages regarding his controversial stint on Warner Bros. Justice League that are the focus of this article. We advise you go read the article in full.

By the time the interview with New York Magazine (via Apple News), shifts to Justice League, Joss Whedon describes his decision to try and “fix” Zack Snyder’s cut of the movie for Warner Bros. as being one of his biggest regrets. The article rehashes explanations for the discontent on set that have been shared by DC and Zack Snyder fans for years: That Snyder encouraged improvisation in his actors, while Whedon expected them to adhere to his script; That Gal Gadot pushed back against Whedon’s writing, and the director insulted her. A crew member recalling their time on the set claims that Whedon said he’d never worked with “a ruder group of people” than the Justice League cast. And in trying to clarify his disconnect with Gadot, Whedon told New York Magazine: 

Gal Gadot responded to this by telling NY Magazine she “understood perfectly” everything the director was trying to convey. Eventually, the interview turns to the accusations leveled against Whedon by Justice League co-star Ray Fisher, who said the director abused his power while on set of the reshoots and was enabled by Warner Bros. executives, calling out Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Whedon doesn’t address those accusations directly, though he does offer his explanation as to why Fisher’s performance as Cyborg – which Zack Snyder famously referred to as the “heart” of the movie – was cut out of the 2017 theatrical release of Justice League. Whedon says in the article that the Cyborg storyline “logically made no sense,” and allegedly called Fisher’s acting bad. He claims to have had friendly conversations with Fisher about the changes he wanted to make, and says that none of Fisher’s claims to the media have been “either true or merited discussing.” In conclusion, Whedon told New York Magazine:

New York Magazine claims to have reached out to Ray Fisher multiple times with interview requests, but they say the actor did not respond.

Snyder fans already are taking to social media to defend Fisher, and declare Whedon “done” following the interview. Posts like this flooded Twitter as the latest rounds of details regarding this back-and-forth surfaced. 

There may never be a clean resolution to the events that happened on the Justice League reshoots, though Snyder fans at least can claim a creative victory because their efforts to get the Snyder Cut of the film released culminated in an HBO Max debut in March 2021.  

By now, many are likely familiar with the production of 2017’s Justice League and the subsequent fallout from the Joss Whedon-directed reshoots. A number of the film’s stars have since aimed allegations against the filmmaker. The first was Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, who accused him of “gross” and “abusive” behavior in April 2020. Amid the claims, it was reported that Whedon threatened Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot while working on the set. The actress subsequently shared brief comments on the matter, and she recently provided a few more thoughts while reflecting on the situation. 

Gal Gadot’s on-set interactions with Joss Whedon were originally reported amid Ray Fisher’s numerous allegations against the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator. At the time, Gadot simply confirmed that she’d had issues with Whedon and that the situation was handled quickly. She later stated that the writer/director threatened to make her career “miserable” should she say something about their reported confrontation. The actress recently reiterated how fast Warner Bros. was in resolving the issue and reflected on her exact feelings in the moment:

The actress’ comments seem to point towards a larger conversation that’s been taking place across Hollywood over the past few years. Many in the entertainment industry have been making it a goal to build positive working environments. This process has, in turn, seen a number of stars speak out in regard to alleged inappropriate behavior. 

Based on her later comments during her interview with Elle, Gal Gadot seems glad that everything has been taken care of. Though are a few questions that still linger in her mind as she looks back on how things played out: 

Ray Fisher’s initial comments on Joss Whedon were followed by others, who came forward to discuss their own experiences with the famed creative. Buffy alum Charisma Carpenter said Whedon “abused his power” on the set, referring to the incidents as “disturbing.” In response to the investigation surrounding Fisher’s claims, Aquaman actor Jason Momoa shared some frustrated thoughts, saying that “THIS SHIT HAS TO STOP AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT.” A spokesperson for Whedon later denied some of Fisher’s claims.

The overall investigation surrounding Justice League concluded in December 2020, with reports indicating that “remedial action” had been taken. Meanwhile, Gal Gadot is moving on from the incident, having since booked several major projects, including Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman 3.

The DC Extended Universe is an ever-changing place, with the most recent installment being James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. That release resulted in calls for David Ayer’s cut of the original 2017 movie Suicide Squad. And now Justice League’s Ray Fisher has weighed in on calls for the Ayer Cut.

Prior to the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Ray Fisher was one of the most vocal cheerleaders in calling for the full four-hour experience. While there currently aren’t any plans to release David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad, fans are longing to see the deleted footage. And now Fisher has weighed in on social media, posting:

Well, there you have it. With The Suicide Squad in theaters and currently streaming, there’s a ton of discussion about Task Force X. And Ray Fisher is using his platform to join fans in hoping that the Ayer Cut comes together similar to Justice League. We’ll just have to wait and see if Warner Bros. changes its mind and puts out another DC director’s cut.

Since Suicide Squad was released in 2017, David Ayer has been open about how studio interference altered his original vision for the blockbuster. Much of Jared Leto’s Joker was left on the cutting room floor, as was a romance between Harley Quinn and Deadshot. Ayer went so far as to call Harley’s story “eviscerated” in the theatrical cut due to reshoots and extensive cuts.

Calls for the Ayer Cut came as soon as Zack Snyder’s Justice League was confirmed to be getting its full release over on HBO Max. But there’s been no indication that Warner Bros. is actually considering this choice of action. Still, that hasn’t stopped online discourse about the subject, especially in the wake of The Suicide Squad’s release. This includes Ray Fisher himself.

James Gunn’s R-rated blockbuster featured a number of returning characters from the original Suicide Squad-- although a few of them perished throughout the course of the movie’s runtime. The familiar faces included Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).

If you ask me, I think that Ray Fisher gives one of the greatest ever performances in the DC movies so far as Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg, in Justice League (specifically in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, if there was any clarification needed there). The 33-year-old, theater-trained actor brings so much heart and so much humanity to a character who is mostly made of metal, and wins over the audience so easily that I now wish we could see more from him in upcoming superhero movies. However, following certain reveals from the set of the 2017 box office disappointment which have come to light, I have a feeling that Ray Fisher has a better shot at a part in the Marvel movies, and I have plenty of great character ideas in mind, staring with one who is also part machine.

Cardiac

In 1990, a Spider-Man comic introduced a character named Dr. Elias Withram, who technically already exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (if we can still count the Netflix Marvel TV shows, that is) having been briefly mentioned in the multi-character crossover series, The Defenders, but has never had his own story told in a screen adaptation. That is a shame, because he has quite an interesting story: following the death of his brother, the doctor developed an artificial skin made of Vibranium which he uses to defend himself when fighting crime, along with his artificial heart that conjures devastating blasts of energy - hence the name Cardiac. Not only does Ray Fisher know a thing or two about playing heroes who are part-human, part-machine and suffering a tragic loss, but he certainly has the heart (no pun intended) required to bring this role to life.

Night Thrasher

Of course, I would not be surprised if, for his next comic book movie, Ray Fisher would rather play a role that has the same amount of heart, but does not require him to be covered in CGI alterations for most of it. In that case, I also have in mind a character named Dwayne Michael Taylor - a rich, successful businessman whose parents were murdered when he was younger, inspiring him to pursue and perfect skills in martial arts, adopt a technical mastery which allows him to create effective non-lethal weaponry of his own design, and other abilities, to fight crime under the alias Night Thrasher. In other words, this could be the closest that Fisher would get to, essentially, playing Batman, making me hopeful that plans for a New Warriors series, which was originally developed as project for Freeform before it was cancelled, could re-materialize.

Bishop

On second thought, Ray Fisher does not need a Netflix or Freeform show to play a Marvel character when he could get the same (if not better) opportunities from MCU movies, which are expanding their catalog with characters previously owned by Fox, such as the X-Men. There are several characters from the Marvel comic book series whom I could see the actor being a great fit for, but one of the most undeniably badass is named Lucas Bishop (originally played by French actor Omar Sy in X-Men: Days of Future Past), who originates from a timeline ruled by robotic Sentinels who have forced all mutants to live in hiding. The role might require less heart than Fisher used for Cyborg, but even more of the same grit, and rumors of the Marvel Multiverse becoming a major plot point in the movies make this role all the more possible.

Human Torch

Another Marvel property previously owned by Fox, before the merger with Disney, is the Fantastic Four, who have inspired four movies: two of which were successful but critically reviled, one of which was neither commercially nor critically successful, and one that never even saw the light of day. In other words, there is a lot of pressure on Kevin Feige and co. to give Marvel’s first superhero family (including the flexible Mister Fantastic; the transparent Invisible Woman, and the rock-skinned The Thing) a proper cinematic adaptation fans can be proud of with the MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot. The secret to making that work might be in casting the crew’s fourth, pyrokinetic, member, Johnny “Human Torch” Storm, with Ray Fisher. It could be a great opportunity for the actor to show off a sense of humor, having already proved his knack for playing a rebellious, heroic youth as Cyborg.

Robbie Robertson

I would not be surprised, nor hold it against him, if all of what happened while making Justice League influenced Ray Fisher to never to play a superhero character again, but I’d still really like to see him in a Marvel movie. Thus, I would offer him the part of Joseph "Robbie" Robertson - Peter Parker’s friend, mentor, and co-worker who did not get the acknowledgement he deserved in director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, if you ask me, despite a heartfelt portrayal by the late Bill Nunn. I think casting Fisher as a younger incarnation of the Daily Bugle reporter, whom Tom Holland’s Peter could not only learn from but relate to better, would be the best way to give this under appreciated character another shot at a proper big screen presence, especially after Spider-Man: Far From Home gave J.K. Simmons J. Jonah Jameson such a treatment already.

The fate of the DC Extended Universe and the overarching story that Zack Snyder had intended to tell in subsequent superhero movies remains up in the air for now, much like Ray Fisher’s future as Cyborg in any of those very sequels. If we do not see him return to the DC movies, I believe that if he were to make a debut in the Marvel movies, it could be, not just the next best thing, but maybe even a better thing. It's almost hard to believe it, but Zack Snyder's Justice League has almost been out for a full month already. The streaming event has continued to make headlines since the titular filmmaker's vision was finally shown to the public. Every frame of the four-hour project has been dissected, especially the extended stories for characters like Ray Fisher's Cyborg. Terminator actor Joe Morton played his father Silas Stone, and recently opened up about his character's sacrifice from the Snyder Cut.

Joe Morton's role was largely left on the cutting floor during Justice League's theatrical cut, so fans were thrilled to see the Terminator 2 icon in a meatier role for the Snyder Cut. Silas Stone's sacrifice was one of the most tragic moments from the blockbuster, and Morton shared his feelings about his character's fate. When asked if he was happy how Silas went out, he said:

Joe Morton's comments to THR peel back what it was like working on the original set of Justice League. And while his character's story was cut down in the theatrical version, his relationship to Cyborg was key to the Snyder Cut. Silas Stone low-key saved the entire world when sacrificing himself, and atoned for his sins in the process.

From the beginning, Zack Snyder has described Cyborg as the heart of Justice League's story. This is definitely related to the character's shattered sense of self, and family trauma. Throughout the course of the movie we learn how Elinore Stone died, and the desperate measures Silas went through to keep Victor alive.

It's currently unclear if/when we'll see Cyborg's story continued in the DC Extended Universe. The Cyborg movie was scrapped after Justice League's disappointing performance in 2017. What's more, Ray Fisher's ongoing battle with the studios seemingly resulted in the character being pulled from Ezra Miller's Flash movie. But given how popular the hero has become in the wake of the Snyder Cut, perhaps fan excitement will factor into this decision.

Although the investigation into Ray Fisher’s allegations of unprofessional and “abusive” behavior that occurred during the Justice League reshoots concluded last year with “remedial” action being taken, the Cyborg actor’s conflict with WarnerMedia remains ongoing. After declaring he would no longer work with DC Films president Walter Hamada, Fisher was removed from The Flash. However, he’s still hopeful something can be worked out so that he can reprise his cybernetic character for the Scarlet Speedster’s solo movie

Following years of delays and development obstacles, The Flash is on track to begin filming later this month, with IT’s Andy Muschietti sitting in the director’s chair. In an interview with Empire, Ray Fisher noted how he had already talked with Muschietti on the latter’s approach to superheroes like Flash and Cyborg, saying:

Cyborg was first reported to be appearing in The Flash movie back in August 2016, when Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa was attached to direct. While it’s never been made clear exactly how Cyborg fit into The Flash, Fisher clarified he would have had a major role in the movie, as opposed to just cameoing. It’s worth noting that The Flash is incorporating elements of the Flashpoint storyline, which saw Cyborg taking Superman’s spot as the United States’ greatest superhero after the main DC timeline was changed. So it’s possible The Flash would have also seen Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen crossing paths with a drastically-different version of Cyborg, be it in the DCEU reality or another corner of the multiverse.

Cyborg wouldn’t have been the only superhero interacting with Flash either, as the movie is set to star Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as their respective versions of Batman, as well as Sasha Calle appearing as Supergirl. Because Cyborg’s role was apparently so integral to the forthcoming DCEU movie, it’s unclear if his role will now be filled by another character or if The Flash script has been rewritten to flow without said role. Either way, with just weeks to go until The Flash begins principal photography, it’s hard to see how the decision to remove Ray Fisher could be overturned so quickly so that he’d be ready for the shoot. Maybe at the very least, something would be worked out where the actor only briefly appeared.

Along with the aforementioned individuals, The Flash will also see Kiersey Clemons reprising Iris West following her turn as the character in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Ron Livingston taking over the role of Henry Allen from Billy Crudup, Maribel Verdú playing Nora Allen and Ian Loh appearing as young Barry Allen. Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso have also been cast in undisclosed roles, and there’s still no official word yet if Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. Reverse-Flash, will participate in The Flash. Given his importance to the original Flashpoint story, it’s hard to imagine him not being involved.

Fans have dissected every frame of the four-hour streaming event, while new campaigns have begun to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. And as the public celebrates this version of the movie, Cyborg actor Ray Fisher continues to speak out against how the studio and Joss Whedon handled reshoots. Now Cyborg comic writer David F. Walker has weighed on the "booyah" controversy.

One of the many allegations that Ray Fisher made about Justice League reshoots was regarding the addition of the character's Teen Titans catch phrase "booyah". The line wasn't in Zack Snyder's original script, and Fisher reportedly pushed back before being forced to shoot the footage which eventually made it into the theatrical cut. David F. Walker shared his experience after writing for Cyborg for the comics. As he explained,

Well, it looks like Ray Fisher isn't the only person uncomfortable with Cyborg's over the top utterances of "booyah." While Fisher fought against the catch phrase in Justice League, it seems that David F. Walker was similarly strong-armed into including it to Cyborg's adventures on the page.

David F. Walker offered his support of Ray Fisher on Twitter, in response to a recent long-form story about the actor's various allegations. In the story Fisher tells the story of clashing with the studio over saying Cyborg's catch phrase. He felt it didn't fit with the movie's version of the character, and equated it to Black icons in pop culture like Gary Coleman and Jimmie Walker. The actor was quoted in THR, saying:

While Ray Fisher was only able to share his feelings and experience during Justice League controversial reshoots, David F. Walker's echoed similar concerns about Cyborg's catchphrase. Both Fisher and Walker lost their respective battles over "booyah," although the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League restored the titular filmmaker's original vision for the hero.

While it remains to be seen how Warner Bros.' internal investigation plays out, Ray Fisher's latest interview has given new life to the ongoing controversy. The release of Zack Snyder's Justice League seemingly renewed interest on the subject, especially after seeing how vastly different Cyborg was handled in the two cuts. Fisher's character was truly the heart of the movie, and fans are going to be disappointed if his time in the DCEU is up.

In the weeks since its long-awaited release, Zack Snyder’s Justice League has continued to dominate pop culture. Fans were thrilled to finally see the titular director’s four-hour long vision for the project, and there’s already been calls to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. But there’s also been some controversy over the ongoing investigation and accusations made against the studio by Cyborg actor Ray Fisher. Some new reports have surfaced about the treatment of Gal Gadot during reshoots, leading the Wonder Woman actress to make an official statement on the matter.

While Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been praised as a superior version of the movie, there’s also been much conversation about what went down when Joss Whedon arrived on set for the extensive reshoots. The various allegations were recently laid out in a long form piece by THR, including reports that Gal Gadot’s career was threatened. Gadot herself responded in the article, saying:

While being careful not to give details about exactly went down, it seems that Gal Gadot did indeed have some issues while working with Joss Whedon on Justice League. What’s more, Gadot confirmed that she brought concerns to the studio at the time of reshoots.

According to unnamed sources in the report, Gal Gadot had concerns about how her character was being handled after her solo flick Wonder Woman. The actress didn’t confirm specifics about their conflict, but Gadot giving an official statement is sure to turn a few heads.

Ray Fisher first came out about allegations of abuse against Joss Whedon and other execs at WB months ago. The Cyborg actor regularly uses social media to update the public on the internal investigation happening at the studio, and continue to share his outrage about the situation. A few other stars have thrown their support behind Fisher during that time.

As for Gal Gadot, she’s been mostly silent as the situation continues to shake out in a very public way. She recently reprised her signature role in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984, which was released on streaming. What’s more, fans were treated to her role in the Snyder Cut, which was greatly expanded from the theatrical version of Justice League.

Only time will tell how things will shake out with Ray Fisher and the studio. He was recently removed from Ezra Miller’s upcoming Flash movie. Cyborg was very much the heart of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, so fans are feeling more connected to Fisher’s character than ever.

The complex story of Justice League star Ray Fisher's troubles with Warner Bros. has now taken a very surprising turn, as some potential details about a recent DC Comics series have allegedly come to light. It's now being said that, supposedly, former Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page was up for a role as Superman's grandfather on said television show, but that he wasn't allowed to play the part because he's black.

Here's what going on. Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has been speaking out against director Joss Whedon (who took over reshoots on Justice League), and many of the major executives at Warner Bros. for what happened during Whedon's time on the film, including comic book writer and movie / TV producer Geoff Johns.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fisher is now saying that over the past several months of speaking with witnesses to try and have the supposed behavior of Whedon, Johns, and others corroborated, he heard from two people who worked on Syfy's Superman prequel series, Krypton, and alleged that Johns, who oversaw the drama, wouldn't let Regé-Jean Page play Kal-El's grandfather in the show because of his race.

According to multiple sources that the outlet spoke to, the creators of Krypton (who began actively developing the show for Syfy in late 2014), were "passionate" about making sure that they used nontraditional casting. Regé-Jean Page had auditioned for the role of Seg-El, Superman's grandfather, and was in the running to lead the series as it followed the character while he tried to redeem the name of his family and save his planet. But, allegedly, Geoff Johns said that Page could not play the part because Superman couldn't have a black grandfather.

Now, Regé-Jean Page hasn't come out and said anything about this, and he likely wouldn't have been given a reason this specific for why he didn't get the part of Seg-El on Krypton back then, anyway. But, if this is true, I think we can probably say that, at the very least, Krypton missed out on a marvelous opportunity to have the breakout star on their show.

Obviously, there's no telling whether or not having Regé-Jean Page on Krypton would have made the show more popular or lead to it connecting with viewers more, but I think a lot of Bridgerton viewers would agree that the show probably would have been a lot sexier.

As it stands now, Krypton only lasted for two seasons, from 2018 through 2019, and while it would be truly crappy if Page was eliminated from the running simply because he's black, sometimes even crappy things do happen for a reason. Can you imagine if he had helped make Krypton a huge success, and was then unable to come anywhere near Bridgerton because he was too busy? We're now dealing with the idea of Bridgerton Season 2 being completely Page-less, and, I have to say, the idea is not fun for us, regardless of what happens in the novels that show is based on.

Through a representative, Geoff Johns denied any racially-motivated wrongdoing on Krypton and Justice League, though the rep did admit Johns thought audiences were expecting Krypton's lead to look like Henry Cavill.

We'll likely never hear concrete details on what happened behind the scenes on Krypton, but at least supposedly missing out on the part didn't hurt Regé-Jean Page's career any.

Justice League has been getting a lot of attention over the last year on two fronts. In one corner, we have the buzz surrounding Zack Snyder’s Justice League (which is now playing on HBO Max), and in another corner, we’ve been following along with Cyborg actor Ray Fisher’s efforts to pull the curtain back on the superhero movie’s tumultuous reshoots, which were helmed by Joss Whedon. One of the stranger chapters of that saga was when producer Jon Berg claimed that Fisher was upset when the Justice League filmmakers wanted him to say Cyborg’s catchphrase from the Teen Titans animated series, “Booyah!” Well, it turns out there’s more to this story than just some mild dissatisfaction.

As Ray Fisher recalled to THR, Justice League producer Geoff Johns, who’s been a key DC Comics contributor for over 20 years now, approached director Zack Snyder about including “booyah” in the movie, a word that Cyborg has never said in the comics. Snyder declined, as he reportedly didn’t want catchphrases in Justice League, but he still stamped the word on some signs in his cut of the movie as an Easter egg. According to Johns’ representative, Warner Bros thought the line would be a “fun moment of synergy,” but Fisher felt that it would be weird for the only Black superhero in Justice League to exclaim a catchphrase, calling to mind sitcom characters like Arnold Jackson from Diff’rent Strokes and J.J. Evans from Good Times.

Once Joss Whedon took over the Justice League reshoots, he brought “booyah” back up with Ray Fisher, and when the actor objected to the word being included, he thought the issue had been laid to rest. But Fisher says that Jon Berg, who’s also ran DC Films with Geoff Johns at the time, told him the following:

Despite Ray Fisher expressing skepticism that Justice League would be so heavily impacted by the inclusion of one word, he ended up filming a “booyah” take, which you can see in the theatrical cut. According to Fisher, on the day he shot that scene, Joss Whedon mockingly greeted him with a line from Hamlet, and after cameras finished rolling, the filmmaker called out “Nice work, Ray” as the actor was leaving.

Of course, the “booyah” incident is just one of many issues that Ray Fisher has talked about from his time on the Justice League reshoots. The actor has also accused Joss Whedon of being abusive to cast and crew members and Geoff Johns of “making a thinly veiled threat” to his career when the actor tried to take his grievances up the “proper chain of command.” In August 2020, WarnerMedia launched a third-party investigation into Fisher’s claims, which wrapped the following December and saw “remedial action being taken. Several weeks before the official conclusion, Joss Whedon exited the HBO series The Nevers.

However, the drama surrounding Justice League kept going on, with Ray Fisher saying right before 2020 ended that he wouldn’t participate in any project associated with Walter Hamada, the current president of DC Films. Following that, it was announced that Cyborg had been removed from The Flash, despite the character apparently having an integral role in the movie. So although DCEU fans finally got to see the full scope of Fisher’s Cyborg performance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it’s possible that his tenure as the technologically-enhanced superhero is now over.

After years of fan campaigns, crowdfunding, and theories, the titular director's vision can finally be seen in its full four-hour glory. And while the fandom is thrilled for this payoff, the cast of Justice League is similarly pumped. In fact, Henry Cavill, Jared, Leto, and Ray Fisher have all posted about their excitement.

With Zack Snyder's Justice League finally available for the masses, the cast and crew of the project can finally be open about its contents. Folks like Henry Cavill and Ray Fisher had to guard spoilers for the 2017 release, while also not giving away what the Snyder Cut includes. Superman himself posted on social media, saying:

Superman was been resurrected... again. It looks like Henry Cavill is pleased, and he appreciates just how much work Zack Snyder put into the blockbuster. This includes original principal photography those years ago, as well as the additional hours of editing work done ahead of the HBO Max release.

Henry Cavill posted three images, the first of which shows off the hulking physicality he brought to Superman throughout his run in the DCEU, including Zack Snyder's Justice League. We also see a shot of Clark Kent as a mild-mannered reporter, as well as his reunion with Martha Kent and Lois Lane.

Of course, Henry Cavill wasn't the only cast member who took the time to congratulate Zack Snyder on the blockbuster finally seeing the light of day. It's been a long time coming, even if Jared Leto joined as Joker late in the game. Still, the Oscar winner took to social media, saying:

There were very limited reshoots for Zack Snyder's Justice League, with the titular filmmaker taking a few days to film the movie's coda. This includes Jared Leto as the Joker, reprising his role for the first time since David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Despite originally not having a role at all, Leto seemed to really enjoy working with Snyder.

News of Jared Leto's inclusion in The Snyder Cut broke the internet, and further helped to buoy excitement for the movie ahead of its streaming release. Leto was largely cut out of his DCEU debut, and was noticeably absent from Birds of Prey. So perhaps he'll return to play Mr. J in the main canon. Only time will tell.

Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has been one of the most vocal cheerleaders for The Snyder Cut, back when its release seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream. So as expected, he also posted a ton of on social media about the movie's arrival on HBO Max. For instance,

Out of any member of the team, Cyborg is perhaps the character that benefits the best from Zack Snyder's Justice League. His backstory is greatly expanded, with the director himself referring to Cyborg as the heart of the movie. Unfortunately the theatrical cut largely cut this out, and instead he was an angsty hero who bantered back and forth with other heroes.

It should be interesting to see if more cast members from Zack Snyder's Justice League end up posting their reactions to its release. But if they're waiting to watch the streaming event in its entirety, we shouldn't hold our collective breathe. After all, it's a four-hour epic story that's told through six distinct chapters. Said format allows audiences to watch at their own pace, rather than committing to the full run at once.

It’s the comic-book blockbuster that rabid DC fans fought for three years to be able to see. Zack Snyder’s Justice League -- the real version of the movie that was supposed to reach theaters in 2017 -- is now streaming on HBO Max, and there’s no doubt that passionate Snyder supporters are watching, and rewatching, this epic four-hour film. No sooner did Justice League fans witness the proper endings for what Zack Snyder had in store for Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the rest of the team then did they start to call for the Restoration of the SnyderVerse, trying to will Snyder into making more movies in this universe.

Could it happen? Anything is possible. This version of Justice League never was supposed to screen, so what could stop HBO Max from greenlighting more stories with Snyder at the helm? Nothing really, particularly because Snyder left a number of tantalizing (and dangling) plot threads in the Justice League ending that could power a few more movies in this franchise. So, let’s discuss where Justice League leaves The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman and more, and then explore where Snyder’s Justice League story could go next.

Batman

Through most of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) has been making amends for “failing” Superman (Henry Cavill), while also assembling a team that can defend our planet against much larger threats now that our strongest weapon, Kal-El, is six feet in the ground. The team has defeated Steppenwolf, and sent a message to Darkseid and his forces that if and when they come to Earth in search of the precious Anti-Life Equation, they will be met with fierce opposition.

As Justice League concludes, Batman is seen turning the decrepit Wayne Manor into a headquarters for the newly formed Justice League team (though he stops short of calling it a Hall of Justice when speaking with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman). He also continues to make good on his mistake of distrusting Superman by purchasing the bank that took over the Kent farm and giving the property back to Clark, Martha (Diane Lane) and Lois (Amy Adams).

What Could Be Next For Batman After Justice League?

Back in 2017, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was supposed to pass the baton to a solo Batman movie that Ben Affleck was going to direct and star in. The movie, from what we have learned, would have pit the Dark Knight against Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke, and we now see how Snyder set that up with the conversation between Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Slade Wilson (Manganiello) on Luthor’s yacht. The supergenius has escaped prison and is contemplating his next moves, given Superman’s return from the grave. As for Deathstroke, he’s told by Luthor that Batman’s true identity is Bruce Wayne, creating new headaches for Gotham’s craziest billionaire. We will soon see if Ben Affleck continues that story, but we do know that he’s down to play Batman in The Flash, coming to theaters in 2022.

Superman

As mentioned, Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) is putting his life back together after… well, being dead. The Man of Steel sacrificed himself to stop Doomsday at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and spent the bulk of Justice League staying dead until the League figured out how to resurrect him. The Christ imagery has never been stronger. I mean it. The Kent farm is back in the family thanks to Bruce, and in the final shot of the Epilogue before the teasy end-credit sequences, we see that Clark is back from the dead as well -- Cavill is seen in the glasses and work clothes as he looks up in the sky, heads down an alley, and rips open his shirt to reveal the silver-and-black Superman suit.

What Could Be Next For Superman After Justice League?

God help us, could another Superman movie be in the cards? We sure hope so, as Henry Cavill seems to be the best Superman we’ve ever seen, but he has yet to truly get a full solo movie where he is Superman the entire time. Man of Steel fans want to see Kal-El confronting Braniac on screen, but Lex Luthor also remains a significant foil. However, Superman has another role to fill in Zack Snyder’s universe, and you will want to jump down to the section on the Knightmare Future to learn more about it.

Wonder Woman

Diana (Gal Gadot) gets very little screen time in the finale of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Though this film is a sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman also got her own solo movie, a prequel, months before this movie was supposed to open in theaters. We haven’t caught up with Diana since she has come out of the shadows and embraced her role as a contemporary planet savior, so it’s possible that future Wonder Woman movies explore that notion. You can tell by her lone scene, though, that Diana is wistfully contemplating her home island of Themyscira, as she’s cloaked in black and holding the arrow that her mother, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), fired to warn Wonder Woman is danger.

What Could Be Next For Wonder Woman After Justice League?

Wonder Woman is a DC character who already has two solo movies to her name, but they both have been prequels. The way that Justice League ends, she’s absolutely an integral part of Bruce’s new team -- she’s alongside him as he plans the table that will seat the League in the rejuvenated Wayne Manor. But she’s also a global superpower who will have other solo adventures, especially in the Wonder Woman 3 project that has been greenlit. Also, she’s going to die. Aquaman

Much like Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is a character who was due to follow Zack Snyder’s Justice League with a solo film of his own -- and we have seen it already. James Wan delivered Aquaman in 2018, and it grossed more than $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales. The movie saw Arthur Curry (Momoa) claiming his rightful throne as the King of Atlantis, but not before he settled some uncertainty with his birth parents. This is why, at the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Aquaman is seen blowing Mera (Amber Heard) off and getting in the back of a pickup truck so he could go visit his dad. This was going to bring the character right to the doorstep of James Wan’s 2018 film.

What Could Be Next For Aquaman After Justice League?

Well, what’s naturally next for him is the adventure that we see in Aquaman. Arthur is torn between two worlds -- the land and the sea -- but is lured back to Atlantis by Mera to defeat a rising threat in King Orm (Patrick Wilson). Aquaman 2 currently is in pre-production and will begin filming soon, heading towards a December 16, 2022 release date. Now, thanks to the full picture presented in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and the solo Aquaman movie, we have a much better understanding of this hero’s rise to power. Also, HE’S going to die. The Flash

Having figured out how to access the Speed Force, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) is last seen in this movie redirecting his efforts to track the actual killer of his mother, Nora Allen. Barry visits his father (Billy Crudup) in prison to tell him that he managed to land “the worst job you can get in a crime lab.” But this is Flash’s origin story, and part of Barry’s background is his interest in criminal forensics, so this has now been established in the SnyderVerse. Our last shot sees The Flash mastering his running skills in Central City, consumed by the power of the Speed Force.

What Could Be Next For The Flash After Justice League?

A solo movie… kind of. The Flash is currently heading into production with director Andy Muschietti (It, Mama) at the helm. It’s being reported that The Flash will explore the Multiverse, and will bring Michael Keaton’s version of Batman into the current DC. The movie also will feature Ben Affleck as his Batman, and is going to introduce Supergirl to the DC movies, played by Sasha Calle. So, lots of exciting elements to this movie that’s meant to explore a hero we now have a much better sense of thanks to Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Cyborg

The Epilogue for Zack Snyder’s Justice League begins with Victor Stone (Ray Fisher) repairing a tape recorder so he can listen to a motivational message from his deceased father, Silas (Joe Morton). This leads to several strong parental ties that bind the Justice League members, as we have been discussing in the feature. But we also see real growth from Cyborg, who confessed to the Unity while inside of the Mother Boxes that he’s “not broken” and that he no longer feels alone. This is solidified when Cyborg, while standing over the gravesite of his parents, sheds the sweatshirt that hides his cybernetic frame and embraces the hero he’s destined to become. Victor quite literally ascends into the heavens, propelled by his open jets, as the scene concludes.

What Could Be Next For Cyborg After Justice League?

Not much, unless the Restore the SnyderVerse campaign works wonders. Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has made headlines squabbling with Warner Bros. brass over treatment of himself and others on set during the Justice League reshoots. His character was removed from The Flash and Fisher has stated he will not work on any project that is under the watch of current DC Films president Walter Hamada. So Justice League might be the end of the road for this interpretation of the fascinating character.

Martian Manhunter

This one was a huge surprise, and came at the very end of the Knigtmare sequence (which we will be talking about very soon). But J’onn J’onzz himself, the Martian Manhunter, appears to Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) as the billionaire wakes from a rest at his lakeside cabin. The DC hero, who briefly appeared in an earlier scene with Lois Lane (Amy Adams), fully embraces his role as a guardian of the planet, crediting Batman with pulling the team together and admitting that he’s going to be more involved with our battle moving forward. Bruce thanks him, telling him they definitely will need the help.

What Could Be Next For Martian Manhunter After Justice League?

Now Manhunter (voiced by Harry Lennix) will need the help of HBO Max or Warner Bros. if he’s ever going to be seen again. Clearly his inclusion in Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a placeholder for future stories -- and if you believe the rumors, this scene was supposed to introduce a Green Lantern, instead -- but they won’t happen unless the studios or the streaming service decide to continue with Zack Snyder’s story in this universe. Martian Manhunter is an integral member of the Justice League, so his inclusion is vital, and we’re glad he’s part of the foundation.

The Knightmare Future

OK, this one is so massive that it deserves its own section. Once he was able to restore his full cut of Justice League, Zack Snyder also filmed an additional scene that takes place in a potential future, one where Darkseid has come to Earth and overpowered Superman (Henry Cavill) using the Anti-Life Equation. We learn so much in this final scene -- building off of the short Cyborg-inspired Knightmare scene from earlier in the film -- so let’s run through the key developments.

First, Aquaman and Wonder Woman are dead. We see them get killed in Cyborg’s vision, and Mera (Amber Heard) is still angry over Arthur’s murder in this lengthy sequence. Batman has gathered a band of survivors in this Knightmare future, and they all are avoiding Superman. The group consists of heroes and villains alike, and Batman has a conversation with Joker (Jared Leto) where it is confirmed that this hellish existence exists because Batman let Lois Lane die. That death pushed Superman over the edge, and Darkseid succeeded in bending Kal-El to his will.

Zack Snyder has said in interviews that he’d like to set an entire movie in the Knightmare future. In this, it would almost mirror the popular Injustice comic storyline and video game, where an evil Superman takes on the League, including characters like Joker and Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello). For now, these snapshot looks at the ominous future suggest what could happen if Darkseid defeats the Justice League, and if Lois were to lose her life. Let’s hope we never get there, right?

The Snyder Cut's leak is just the latest speed bump in a very long journey toward its release. HBO Max subscribers were shocked last night when choosing Tom & Jerry on the home page actually brought them to Zack Snyder's Justice League. It was hours before the movie was pulled from the application, revealing much of the movie's contents.

Luckily it was seemingly a small number of people who managed to start Zack Snyder's Justice League. The rest of us remain in the dark regarding its contents, and will be able to enjoy every twist and turn when it's officially released on HBO Max. And Ray Fisher wants to make sure that as many people as possible tune in, and give the long-awaited project support.

It should be interesting to see how Zack Snyder's Justice League performs, and if it inspires Warner Bros. to follow through on any of the narrative seeds the filmmaker was trying to plan. He had a three-film arc in mind, while also setting up solo flicks. Could Ray Fisher return to his role as Cyborg? Only time will tell, but his firing from the Flash movie isn't encouraging.

Nearly five full years ago, Ray Fisher debuted in the DC Extended Universe as Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg, through a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. A little over year and a half later, Fisher made his first full Cyborg appearance in Justice League, and his future in this superhero franchise looked bright. Not only was at least one Justice League sequel in consideration, but it’d been announced in 2014 that Cyborg would get a standalone movie. But a lot’s changed since then, and not just because both of those projects no longer seem to be happening.

Over the last half year, Ray Fisher has opened up about his experience working on the Justice League reshoots, which were helmed by Joss Whedon due to director Zack Snyder stepping away following the death of his daughter. Fisher’s claims have led to a lot of accusations being thrown around from all corners, and now it’s looking unclear if this has now resulted in Fisher not playing Cyborg anymore. But before I get ahead of myself, let’s explore how this DCEU drama started in the first place.

Ray Fisher Renounces Support For Joss Whedon

At the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, four months before Justice League arrived in theaters, Ray Fisher told the crowd that Joss Whedon was a “great guy” and a good person to come in and finish up the superhero team-up tale for Zack Snyder. On June 29, 2020, Fisher retracted that public statement on social media, although he didn’t elaborate right away on why he was switching his tune. While Fisher had said multiple times in the years after Justice League’s release that he enjoyed working with Snyder, this was the first time he publicly voiced any dissatisfaction he had with Whedon.

Ray Fisher Reveals Joss Whedon’s Allegedly Abusive Behavior

On July 1, 2020, Ray Fisher tweeted that Joss Whedon’s treatment of the Justice League cast and crew was “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.” But Whedon wasn’t the only person Fisher name-dropped, as he also stated that producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg “enabled” the director’s behavior. Berg called these claims of abuse “categorically untrue,” and alleged that at one point, Fisher had been upset that the filmmakers wanted him to say “Booyah!”, Cyborg’s catchphrase best known for the Teen Titans animated series.

At the end of that same July, Ray Fisher acknowledged that he understood the professional risks for speaking out about Joss Whedon, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, but he would not “relent.” Two weeks later, on August 12, Fisher alleged that after he tried to take his grievances with Whedon up the “proper chain of command,” Johns called the actor into his office and made a “thinly veiled threat” to his career. By this point, no specific details about what occurred during the Justice League reshoots had been revealed to the public, as Fisher was still under his non-disclosure agreement. Privately, however, things were in motion.

WarnerMedia Launches Investigation Into Ray Fisher’s Claims

On August 20, 2020, Ray Fisher announced that following five weeks of interviews, WarnerMedia decided to launch a third-party investigation to “get to the heart of the toxic and abusive work environment created during Justice League reshoots.” It was clear that Fisher was happy with this development, as he said he was confident that the investigation would show that Joss Whedon, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg “grossly abused their power during the uncertainty of AT&T’s merger with Time Warner.” As we’d soon learn though, just because an investigation is launched doesn’t mean the process goes smoothly.

Things Get Testy Between Warner And Ray Fisher

On September 4, 2020, Ray Fisher stated that after he spoke out about what went down on Justice League, he was called up by Walter Hamada, the president of DC Films, who supposedly “attempted to throw Joss Whedon and Jon Berg under the bus” in the hopes that Fisher would “relent” on Geoff Johns, which Fisher would not. Warner Bros not only denied this, but claimed that Fisher was not cooperating with the investigation, to which the actor countered with proof that he had indeed met with the investigator.

This led to actors Jason Momoa and Kiersey Clemons throwing their support behind Ray Fisher, and Momoa later posted an explicit response about the situation. Not long after that, Fisher said that the independent firm Warner Bros hired for the investigation had “avoided contacting key witnesses,” and he also alleged that Walter Hamada said that Joss Whedon was “an asshole that he never planned on hiring.” Eventually an official request for a change of investigator was made, and by late October, Fisher gave an interview where he blamed Whedon for cutting multiple characters played by actors of color, as well as accused the filmmaker of having the skin tone of a Justice League actor altered. A spokesperson for Whedon denied these claims.

Warner’s Investigation Into Justice League Closes

After that interview, things were relatively quiet on the Justice League drama front for about a month and a half. Then on December 11, 2020, WarnerMedia announced that the Justice League investigation had concluded and “remedial action” action had been taken. Ray Fisher said on social media that some of this action had already happened, and more would follow. It’s worth mentioning that a few weeks before the investigation’s official wrap-up, Joss Whedon left his HBO series The Nevers. Initially this departure was attributed to being “genuinely exhausted” and wanting to “martial” energy towards his own life, but Fisher later indicated that the Justice League investigation also played a role in his exit. But this probe didn’t mark the end of Fisher and Warner Bros clashing.

Ray Fisher Declares He Won’t Work With Walter Hamada

In response to an interview Walter Hamada did with The New York Times about his work running DC Films, Ray Fisher said on December 30, 2020 that Hamada was “the most dangerous kind of enabler” and declared that he wouldn’t participate in any production associated with the executive. It was a bold stance to take, especially given how it potentially jeopardized his future in the DCEU. Well, Warner Bros wasn’t willing to cut ties with Hamada, as evidenced by extending his DC Films contract to 2023. This paved the way for what is currently the latest major development in the Ray Fisher/Justice League controversy.

Cyborg Is Cut From The Flash Movie

On January 6, 2021, it was reported that Cyborg was being removed from The Flash, and the role would not be recast. It had been rumored that Victor Stone would participate in the Scarlet Speedster’s solo movie for several years, and his involvement made sense not just because of the friendship he struck up with Barry Allen in Justice League, but because Victor Stone played a key role in Flashpoint, the comic book storyline The Flash movie is adapting. The day after the report was published, Ray Fisher said that it was not his decision to step down from The Flash, and that whether he appeared in the movie or not, he and his team were still committed to speaking with WarnerMedia about the “cycle of abuse.”

On January 13, 2021, Ray Fisher confirmed that Warner Bros did indeed decide to remove him from The Flash, and while he disagreed with the studio’s decision, it was one that was “unsurprising.” Fisher clarified that Cyborg was supposed to have an integral role in The Flash rather than merely cameo, although he didn’t provide any details about what was in store for his character. As such, although we’ll see Fisher’s original, fully-fleshed Cyborg performance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with Fisher determined not to work with Walter Hamada and determined to “bring awareness and accountability” to the executive’s actions, for now it looks like Fisher’s time as Cyborg might be done. To give his claims more credibility, Fisher posted audio on January 14 of his final conversation with WarnerMedia’s investigator the month prior.

Remember, it’s not officially confirmed that Ray Fisher is departing the DCEU, but between taken out of The Flash and his conflict with Walter Hamada, not to mention the Cyborg movie that was announced in 2014 seemingly being shelved, the actor’s DC future currently doesn’t look very bright. Perhaps that might change if Zack Snyder’s Justice League performs well on HBO Max and viewers want to see more of Cyborg, but with Hamada running the DC Films ship until 2023, it’s unlikely the character will return to the big screen anytime soon, if at all.

Obviously we’ll keep you apprised of more developments concerning Ray Fisher and the Justice League controversy as they roll in. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is expected to drop on HBO Max sometime in March, and those of you interested in seeing Fisher work outside the superhero realm can look forward to him starring in the limited series Women of the Movement, which will premiere on ABC later in 2021.

While multiple members of the Justice League team have been given an opportunity to shine on the big screen -- if your name is “Batman,” you are swimming in feature-film adaptations -- others have patiently waited their turn. DC Films gradually is making time for them, with Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Shazam (Zachary Levi) finally joining Superman (Henry Cavill) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) as having movie franchises of their own. Up next will be the Scarlet Speedster known as The Flash (Ezra Miller), in a movie directed by Andy Muschietti (It), but Barry Allen’s Justice League teammate Cyborg (Ray Fisher) no longer will be part of the story, according to a Tweet shared by Fisher on Wednesday night.

In this two-page statement posted to his social media, Cyborg actor Ray Fisher tells his fans that he “received official confirmation” that Warner Bros. has “decided to remove me” from The Flash, which is scheduled to begin filming this year and reach theaters in November 2022. While there has been no official logline or plot synopsis for the movie, Andy Muschietti teased fans during the DC FanDome event that The Flash will be a version of the “Flashpoint” storyline from DC’s comic books, and will introduce the Multiverse to the film side of DC storytelling, after The CW television shows explored that concept during a massive crossover event in its various programs.

We know that Ezra Miller is playing the lead role in The Flash, continuing a role that he introduced in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will expand on when Zack Snyder’s Justice League arrives on HBO Max, allegedly in March. It has been reported that Michael Keaton will resurrect his classic interpretation of Batman for the movie, and that Ben Affleck also will carry over his “Batfleck” persona from the SnyderVerse films. Meanwhile, there were rumors that both Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) also would appear, though they were described as cameos by outlets quoting their own sources.

Ray Fisher clarifies in his statement that those reports were a “misconception,” though, and that Cyborg was meant to have “a much larger role than a cameo.” This makes sense, for various reasons. Cyborg plays an important part in the “Flashpoint” comic-book storyline, and reports on the chemistry between Fisher and Ezra Miller during the filming of Zack Snyder’s Justice League were strong. There were rumors regarding pairing the young actors together in a film back in 2016-17, so I think many fans just assumed, for years, that Victor Stone had a part in The Flash.

Ray Fisher does not specifically state why Warner Bros. Studios has removed him from the cast of The Flash, but his statements suggest that he believes it is because he stated on December 30, 2020 that he can not participate in any DC film that is under the leadership of current DC Films President Walter Hamada. In a statement that later was picked up by Variety, WarnerMedia does clarify that it was Fisher's intent not to work for Hamada that led to their decision to move forward without him.

Fisher has been engaged in a fight against those he says mistreated him on the set of the Justice League reshoots in 2017. Initially, Fisher called out replacement director Joss Whedon, and producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Other members of the Justice League cast have voiced their support for Fisher (including Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot, to a certain degree), while others have chosen to remain silent on the issue, at least in public. An investigation was launched into Fisher’s claims on on-set abuses, and according to Fisher’s own tweets, was completed on Dec. 11, resulting in “remedial action.” No details have been revealed about the investigation or its findings.

As expected following Fisher’s Tweet, the other shoe dropped as Warner Bros. answered. In a statement, WarnerMedia Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff supported Hamada, saying in part:

The standoff has become a “He said / They said,” with both sides digging in. Fans backing Ray Fisher are showing their support with the hashtag #IStandWithRayFisher, with many claiming they will boycott The Flash because of these developments. On the other side, WarnerMedia is releasing statements asking Fisher to “move on” following the culmination of the investigation.

Did Warner Bros. remove Cyborg from its script for The Flash because of the allegations that Ray Fisher has raised regarding key executives at the studio? That's sounding more and more likely. Fisher Tweeted publicly that he can’t, in good conscience, appear in a film that Walter Hamada is behind. The studio now claims to have said, “OK,” and removed him. Given the fact that The Flash movie has gone through multiple revisions over the years, with numerous screenwriters and directors attached to the project long before Andy Muschietti signed on, it makes we wonder what role Cyborg played. Maybe Muschietti’s approach to the material focused more on getting Keaton and Affleck to participate, and he never had Cyborg as a significant player in his story as a character. That’s something I’d love to know with certainty, though so many details in this complicated story remain unknown.

What is certain is what a missed opportunity Cyborg and Ray Fisher’s portrayal of Cyborg now seems to be. There was such excitement when the character was first announced. He first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and has been described as “the heart” of the version of Justice League that will be coming to HBO Max. There was, at one time, hopes for a standalone solo Cyborg film that Ray Fisher would carry. It’s easy to look back and wonder what-if.

It’s unclear where exactly Ray Fisher or DC will go from here. I don’t think this is how anyone involved wanted this situation to end, and there’s a chance the arguments will continue to play out in public for weeks to come. We will continue to bring you updates as they arrive.

For a movie about DC Comics’ fastest superhero, The Flash has taken an awful long time to arrive. However, after years of delays and setbacks, the Scarlet Speedster’s solo feature is closer than ever to happening, with filming expected to begin in April. That said, word’s come in that The Flash will not see Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen reuniting with Ray Fisher’s Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg, as once anticipated.

Back in summer 2016, it was reported that Ray Fisher would appear as Cyborg in The Flash, though at the time, it was unclear what his role would entail. Now The Wrap is reporting that Cyborg has been written out of The Flash and will not be recast. So while a new actor could have been hired to succeed Ray Fisher in the role, it was decided to excise Cyborg from the story entirely.

For those who follow Ray Fisher on social media, this news shouldn’t come as a complete shock. Last week, Fisher tweeted that as long as DC Films president Walter Hamada was still working at Warner Bros, he would “not participate in any production” associated with Hamada, namely for his role in the drama surrounding Joss Whedon’s behavior during the Justice League reshoots. Well, Hamada has since signed a new deal that will keep him at Warner Bros through 2023, so it’s easy enough to connect the dots and understand why Cyborg will no longer appear in The Flash.

After cameoing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ray Fisher made his full Cyborg debut in Justice League, which saw Victor Stone teaming up with Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Superman to defeat Steppenwolf and his Parademon army. We’ll see Fisher as Cyborg later this year in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which will air as a four-part miniseries on HBO Max (use the following link to sign up for the streaming service if you’re not already subscribed), but with the character’s removal from The Flash and Walter Hamada still holding the DC Films reins, that could end up being the last time we see him playing the technopathic superhero (which would obviously mean he’d also no longer star in a Cyborg movie). Fisher is the second actor to play Cyborg in live-action; he was preceded by Lee Thompson Young on Smallville and followed by Jovian Wade on Doom Patrol.

While specific plot details regarding The Flash still haven’t been revealed, we’ve known for years that it will be inspired by the 2011 storyline Flashpoint, which saw Barry Allen waking up in a drastically altered version of the main DC universe. In the Flashpoint reality, Cyborg fills Superman’s role as the United States’ greatest superhero, so it’s entirely possible that Ray Fisher’s version of the character would have occupied a similar position in The Flash. Whether that was the case or we would have simply seen the original version of Fisher’s Cyborg, it’s a moot point now.

However, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be plenty of familiar faces appearing alongside Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen in The Flash. Along with Billy Crudup expected to reprise Henry Allen, Barry’s father, the movie will feature both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s versions of Batman. Similar to what the MCU is doing with the next live-action Spider-Man movie and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Flash will open the doors to the DC multiverse. So rather than Barry having to deal with the main DCEU being changed, it looks like he’ll instead visit different realities. So don’t be surprised if alternate versions of other DC heroes pop up as the Fastest Man Alive races along.

Anyone who followed the making of 2017’s Justice League closely knows that while Zack Snyder directed the superhero blockbuster during its principal photography period, Joss Whedon was brought in to oversee the reshoots, during which time the movie was drastically changed. It’s been over three years since Justice League’s theatrical cut arrived in theaters, but that version of the movie has drawn renewed attention over Cyborg Ray Fisher’s efforts to shed light on Whedon’s “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” treatment of the cast and crew. Fisher most recently described the reshoots has a period full of “resentment” on the filmmaker’s part.

The Justice League reshoots wasn’t Joss Whedon’s first superhero movie outing, as he’d previously helmed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While both movies were huge commercial successes, Age of Ultron didn’t earn quite the critical fanfare that its predecessor did, and according to Fisher, that factored into Whedon’s behavior on the Justice League set. As Fisher recounted during his appearance on Poindexter Lounge:

Joss Whedon certainly played a role with propelling the MCU to new heights of popularity with the first two Avengers movies, but it’s no secret that he had a harder time making Age of Ultron than The Avengers. This included Whedon clashing with Marvel executives about certain scenes in Age of Ultron, and it ultimately marked his final contribution to the MCU. Joe and Anthony Russo succeeded him for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The Justice League reshoots unfolded a little over two years after Avengers: Age of Ultron was released, and as Ray Fisher sees it, Joss Whedon used the reshoots as a way to prop up his ego after the second Avengers movie wasn’t received as well as he wanted it to be. While Fisher had expressed support for Whedon taking over Justice League at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, at the beginning of this past July, he retracted his kind words, which kicked off the actor’s crusade to both inform the public how Whedon behaved during this time, and how others, like producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, enabled this behavior.

By late August, an independent third-party investigation was launched by WarnerMedia to investigate Ray Fisher’s claims, which officially ended a little over a week ago. Warner stated that “remedial action has been taken,” while Ray Fisher said that some of this “action” had already happened and there was “more to come.” Whedon also stepped away from his HBO series The Nevers last month, although at the time, he attributed this exit to being “genuinely exhausted” and wanting to “martial” his energy into his own life, which was on “the brink of exciting change.”

Justice League star Ray Fisher is on the way to television in 2021 courtesy of the Snyder Cut of the 2017 film in which he played Cyborg (with some changes in store), but HBO Max won't be the only place to find him on the small screen in the new year. That said, he definitely won't be playing Cyborg for the new series. Fisher has signed on for the upcoming series Women of the Movement, slated for a 2021 release.

Women of the Movement will run for six episodes on ABC in 2021 and follow Mamie Till-Mobley. She was the mother of Emmett Till, who was brutally killed in 1955 in the Jim Crow South. Till-Mobley devoted herself to fighting for justice for her son following his death. Deadline reports that Ray Fisher is on board the series as Gene Mobley, the devoted partner to Mamie who would have been Emmett Till's stepfather. The show is inspired by Devery S. Anderson's book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement, published in 2015.

Ray Fisher joins the Women of the Movement cast already comprised of Adrienne Warren of Blue Bloods and Quantico as Mamie Till-Mobley, with Cedric Joe of Modern Family and Good Trouble playing Emmett Till. Niecy Nash (who got married over the summer) of Reno 911! and Claws as well as Glynn Turman of Fargo and Mr. Mercedes are on board the series as well.

Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for writing and directing Love & Basketball and creating and directing Shots Fired, will direct the first episode of Women of the Movement. The ABC series will be directed exclusively by women of color. Ray Fisher shared his thoughts on joining the upcoming series, saying:

Although Women of the Movement is set to release in 2021, there is no confirmation of when in the new year that will be. As a six-episode limited series, it's possible that ABC will aim to air it during a time when some of its biggest ongoing series are on hiatus, and we can probably rule out a midseason release unless production gets underway and completed very soon.

It could work as a late spring or summer series, but we can only speculate for now. It's likely that Ray Fisher will hit the small screen with the Snyder Cut of Justice League sooner than viewers will get to see him as Gene Mobley for Women of the Movement. The new cut of Justice League is expected to debut on HBO Max in March of 2021, with Fisher as Cyborg.

The actress didn’t elaborate further on what she went through, but she’s clearly pleased with how things have recently worked out for Ray Fisher. Gadot is the second Justice League actor to come to Fisher’s support in recent months, with Aquaman actor Jason Momoa sharing an encouraging social media post back in September.

He then thanked those who have provided support and encouragement during this “journey,” adding that “we are on our way” and that there would be “more soon.”

All this started back at the end of June, when Ray Fisher retracted all the praise he gave to Joss Whedon at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, which occurred four months before Justice League’s release. Days later, Fisher went public with his claims about Joss Whedon’s on-set behavior during his time on Justice League, and that Whedon was enabled by producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. Weeks later, Fisher said that during the Justice League reshoots when he tried to take his grievances up the “proper chain of command,” Johns called the actor into his office and made a “thinly veiled threat” to his career.

By late August, Ray Fisher revealed that WarnerMedia had launched an “independent third-party investigation” to get to the heart of the “toxic and abusive work environment created during Justice League reshoots.” However, by the beginning of September, Warner said in a statement that Fisher was not cooperating with the investigation, which the actor denied. Later that month, Fisher said that the firm handling the Justice League investigation had “avoided contacting key witnesses,” and mentioned other instances of cherry-picking who was spoken to.

The following October, Ray Fisher gave an interview where, among other things, he blamed Joss Whedon for cutting multiple characters played by actors of color from the final product, as well as accused the director of having the skin tone of a Justice League cast member altered. A source close to the production later told CinemaBlend that these characters had already been removed before Whedon came aboard, and that the skin tone alteration was entirely for technical reasons.

It’s also worth mentioning that on November 25, Joss Whedon announced that he was leaving the HBO series The Nevers due to being “genuinely exhausted” and wanting to “martial” his energy into his own life, which was on “the brink of exciting change.” Given Ray Fisher saying some action had already been taken as a result of the Justice League investigation, it’s unclear if any of this applied to Whedon’s departure from The Nevers or that was an entirely separate matter. Should any specific details emerge about the aftermath of this investigation, we’ll be sure to let you know.

As for Ray Fisher, you can see him back in action as Cyborg when Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is being presented as a four-part miniseries, hits HBO Max sometime in the first half of 2021. The theatrical cut of Justice League made significant changes to Zack Snyder's original vision for the blockbuster. Extensive reshoots and editing changed the story, cutting out a variety of characters including Cyborg's mother Elinore Stone. Cinematographer Fabian Wagner recently shared a few photos from the set, including one that features Elinore. Check it out below.

Well, this is foreboding. In the set image featured above features actress Karen Bryson, who played Elinore Stone in Zack Snyder's Justice League. While this role was eventually cut, it'll be restored in the four-hour event coming to HBO Max next year. Although this is tragic news for Cyborg himself, who is expected to lose both of his parents throughout that runtime.

With the Snyder Cut finally being released next year, Zack Snyder and company have been sharing set photos teasing some of the concepts that were left on the cutting room floor of its theatrical release. That includes a ton of new content for Cyborg, which will expand his backstory and feature the hero's ill-fated parents in new roles.

Ray Fisher's character Cyborg and his backstory were both greatly altered when Joss Whedon stepped in to complete Justice League in time for its 2017 release. Talk about FOMO. Luckily, the 300 director's original vision for Justice League will finally be revealed to the captive audience sometime in the next year. Rather than having to edit it down to fit a theatrical release, Zack Snyder will be able to include everything and the kitchen sink. Because with the Snyder Cut taking place over for hour-long installments, he doesn't have to hold anything back.

Only time will tell what Zack Snyder was originally intended for Justice League, and how much world-building the visionary filmmaker was doing in the highly anticipated alternate cut. The movie's original version left much to be desired, and it was ultimately a critical and box office disappointment. Cyborg's story in particular was eviscerated, and fans are eager to meet his mother, as well as more footage from his father Silas Stone (Joe Morton).

We know that most members of the Justice League team are going to change when we finally get to see Zack Snyder’s cut of his superhero blockbuster on HBO Max in 2021. For one thing, we’re transitioning from a deeply edited two-hour theatrical cut to four one-hour episodes, allowing for far more backstory, character development, and team-building efforts on behalf of the JLA. But we expect that the most changes will occur for Ray Fisher’s Victor Stone, for so many reasons. Ray Fisher dropped a bombshell on us recently. When pulling back the curtain on the controversial reshoots that occurred under director Joss Whedon’s watch, Fisher claimed that every single shot involving Victor Stone in the theatrical cut (save for one) was a reshoot. This means that almost everything that we will see involving Cyborg in the Snyder Cut of Justice League will be new. Sometimes that means it’s as simple of a change as Victor telling Alfred, “I’ll take it from here.” But more often than that, the changes will be far more significant.

Zack Snyder has called Ray Fisher’s Cyborg the “heart” of his cut of Justice League. And from footage that we have been able to see, his tragic backstory is a huge chunk of what will be restored in the Snyder Cut. Even in the trailer that Snyder brought to DC FanDome, the scenes involving Victor Stone involved his football career, his parents (and the deaths of both), his grief, and the motivations these complicated feelings will have in pushing him to join the League and be heroic.

Not to defend Joss Whedon, but you can understand the massive challenge that came with cutting Zack Snyder’s four-hour version of Justice League down to a studio-mandated, two-hour theatrical cut. Subplots needed to be sacrificed, and Victor Stone ended up on the cutting room floor. But there’s hope, as it appears these crucial scenes – from the loss of Silas Stone (Joe Morton) to Cyborg’s first “flight” – are going to be part of the major building blocks in Snyder’s version of the superhero team-up ensemble.

The main question remains, when will we see this Justice League? We know that it will be 2021, but the month of the streaming drop is being kept under wraps by HBO Max. We know that Zack Snyder was busy on the additional photography as of late, with key actors like Amber Heard, Jared Leto and more showing up on the call sheet. Man, that led to heated conversations.

This comes as no real surprise. We’ve known that Ray Fisher’s Cyborg suffered the most extensive changes from Zack Snyder’s intended arc to what eventually ended up in the theatrical cut of Justice League. Snyder has gone on to refer to Cyborg as “the heart” of his Justice League story, and we know major ways that the character was meant to be portrayed differently from what we saw.

Notably, a lot of Cyborg’s backstory and tragedy was left on the cutting room floor, especially when referring to what happened to his parents. I’ll leave that for you guys to discover when Zack Snyder’s Justice League opens on HBO Max in 2021.

UPDATE: Ray Fisher has sent CinemaBlend a reply to the statement's provided by Joss Whedon's spokespeople. He said, "This is only a hair’s breadth away from Berg’s, 'Fisher was upset about booyah' defense. I’ve been trying my best to make sure that Joss Whedon and Jon Berg aren’t able to be thrown completely under the bus by the other guys. But when they make these half baked knee-jerk excuses publicly, they make my job a lot harder. I’m settling in with my family for the night. I’ll have a more in-depth response tomorrow.”

Two significant stories have dominated the headlines in 2020 regarding the Snyder Cut of Justice League, one very positive and the other decidedly negative. The first involves HBO Max stepping to the plate to fund additional photography for Zack Snyder to complete his cut of Justice League, a movie he had to step away from in 2017 due to a family tragedy. The new version of Justice League arrives on the streaming service in 2021.

The second, more disturbing, story involves allegations of abuse made by Ray Fisher regarding his time on the reshoots for Justice League, and more claims were added to the actor’s grievance list today. Fisher started raising concerns back in July of this year stating that Justice League replacement director Joss Whedon behaved “gross, abusive [and] unprofessional” on the reshoot sets. Fisher also accused Justice League producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg of enabling the behavior. Fisher has demanded an investigation into the accusations, and when one was launched, the actor raised flags because he believed a campaign conducted by Warner Bros. Pictures would be one-sided, and unfair to him.

The argument being waged between Ray Fisher and the parties he’s accusing has been fought in public and litigated in the headlines, with reps from Joss Whedon, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg largely remaining quiet. After the most recent round of accusations, however, an anonymous spokesperson for Whedon pushed back on two specific claims leveled by the Cyborg actor.

Ray Fisher spoke with Forbes and laid out a few more claims regarding what he views as Joss Whedon’s decisions during the Justice League reshoots and post-production. Fisher blames Whedon for cutting multiple characters played by actors of color, including Kiersey Clemons (cast as Iris West alongside Ezra Miller), S.T.A.R. Labs technician Ryan Choi, and actress Karen Bryson, who played Fisher’s mother in the film, Elinore Stone. Fisher told Forbes:

A source close to the production spoke to CinemaBlend following those claims, however, and clarified that these characters had been removed from the Justice League cut long before Joss Whedon came on board as a substitute, and that it was not Whedon’s decision to remove any of these characters from the theatrical cut. They went so far as the argue that “the statement that these roles were cut by Joss is false.”

These same sources made this exact claim to CinemaBlend after Kiersey Clemons used the hashtag #IStandWithRayFisher back in September. According to their side of the story, Clemons didn’t do any work with Joss Whedon on Justice League, so they were unsure why the actress would take issue with the replacement director.

In the same Forbes story, Ray Fisher went on to claim that the catalyst for his current campaign to hold Joss Whedon, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg accountable for their “unacceptable” behavior was news he received that Whedon had the skin tone of a Justice League cast member altered. Fisher told Forbes:

Coloring from the Snyder Cut footage seen in earlier trailers and what ended up in the theatrical cut of Justice League are wildly different. The conclusion of the theatrical cut, in particular, shows a distinct red hue that wasn’t part of Snyder’s original film. But other scenes stand out for the way that backgrounds and tints change when footage fluctuates from Snyder holdovers to Whedon reshoots.

The Whedon spokesperson who spoke with CinemaBlend on the condition of anonymity addressed Ray Fisher’s claim of skin-tone alterations to Forbes, stating:

This marks the first time that Joss Whedon’s camp is choosing to address Ray Fisher’s claims of racially driven hostility towards the Justice League cast and crew during the reshoots for the film in 2017. Fisher went on to say in the Forces article that he will continue to reveal details about his allegations once the investigation into the matter, conducted by Warner Media, concludes. Fisher’s campaign isn’t only against Whedon. He’s attempting to hold several other key figures accountable for the actions he claims happened on the set of the Justice League reshoots.

This doesn't mean that Hamada didn't say the above quote to Fisher, but it does strike us as unusual to have Hamada commenting on Whedon if the two never worked together.

2017’s Justice League has been back in the spotlight recently, and no, I’m not talking about The Snyder Cut heading to HBO Max. Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has accused Joss Whedon, who took over directing Justice League during the reshoots period following Zack Snyder, of being “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” to the movie’s cast and crew, and Aquaman actor Jason Momoa recently threw his support behind his costar’s crusade.

Now Jason Momoa has gone a step further and posted a frustrated and NSFW response about the investigation into Ray Fisher’s claims regarding what happened on the Justice League set. Here’s what Momoa posted on his Instagram page:

Well that’s certainly kicking things up a couple notches. For those of you confused by what Jason Momoa means by bringing up “Frosty,” it was reported at the start of July that he’d been cast to voice Frosty the Snowman in a CGI/live-action movie from Warner Bros and Stampede, with Jon Berg, who was also a producer on Justice League, and Greg Silverman producing. It’s unclear if Momoa is saying this project doesn’t exist or if he hadn’t actually signed onto it, but either way, he sees the announcement as a distraction from what Ray Fisher is trying to bring to light.

It was one thing for Jason Momoa to simply post #IStandWithRayFisher as a sign of support, but now Momoa has firmly cemented himself as an ally in Fisher’s corner and is also calling for a proper investigation into what went down on the Justice League set more than three years ago. Like Fisher, Momoa didn’t provide any specific details about the alleged behavior, but him taking this bold stance will likely draw more attention on the matter.

In case you haven’t been paying close attention to the Ray Fisher/Justice League drama, along with the allegations he made about Joss Whedon, Fisher also accused producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns of enabling Whedon’s behavior, with Johns allegedly threatening Fisher’s career. A little over a week ago, Fisher also stated that Walter Hamada, the president of DC Films, “attempted to throw Joss Whedon and Jon Berg under the bus” in hopes that Fisher “would relent on Geoff Johns.”

Officially speaking, an “independent third-party investigation” has been launched into the alleged “toxic and abusive work environment” on the Justice League reshoots, but that’s also been fraught with controversy. On September 5, Warner Bros alleged that Ray Fisher had not met with the investigator, which Fisher soon after denied, and earlier today, the actor said on Twitter that the firm WB hired has “conveniently avoided contacting key witnesses who gave damning statements to WB HR,” among other things.

Jason Momoa isn’t the only Justice League actor who’s backing Ray Fisher, as Kiersey Clemons, who was cut from the theatrical version of the movie, shared her support on social media too. Clemons’ performance as Iris West will be inserted back into Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which will see her opposite Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash.

Short and to the point, it's clear that Kiersey Clemons has Ray Fisher's back in his ongoing battle with Warner Bros. over Justice League. While the two stars likely never worked together in the movie, she's still putting her support behind her fellow actor and colleague. We'll just have to wait and see how the drama all shakes out in the future.

Kiersey Clemons shared her message of support toward Ray Fisher over on her personal Instagram page. With it came a shot of Clemons playing Iris West in Justice League, from a sequence that was ultimately dropped from the theatrical cut. We'll finally get to see her character in the Snyder Cut on HBO Max, which will also feature much more of Fisher's character Cyborg. Now Clemons is also the latest Justice League star to get behind the 33 year-old actor's fight against the WB and Joss Whedon in particular.

Joss Whedon stepped in to complete Justice League after filmmaker Zack Snyder departed the project due to a family tragedy. The studio reportedly pushed for a more comedic take on the project, and extensive reshoots greatly altered the original director's vision fro the project. And in addition to cutting characters and plot points, Ray Fisher alleges that Joss Whedon's behavior on set was toxic.

The details or Ray Fisher's allegations are overall a mystery, with the actor making it clear that he's unable to share more information for legal reasons. But the Justice League actor occasionally uses social media to give cryptic updates about his ongoing battle with the studio. And in the meantime, the Snyder Cut is closer to release every day.

While the theatrical release of Justice League mostly kept Cyborg to the sidelines, Zack Snyder and Ray Fisher have both teased how integral the hero was to the original story. As such, the Snyder Cut will likely change what audiences think of Cyborg. As for Fisher himself, he'll be dealing with own set of twist and turns IRL as the ongoing situation regarding Joss Whedon shakes out.

While most of the focus surrounding Justice League in the last few months has been excitement surrounding the fact that Zack Snyder's Justice League is actually happening, the story of the original production of the film is not over yet. Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in Justice League, has accused director Joss Whedon of abusive behavior on the set of the film, and Fisher now has a very public ally in the form of his co-star, Aquaman Jason Momoa.

Warner Bros. is currently investigating the claims that Ray Fisher has made about the working environment during the extensive Justice League reshoots. Now the investigation itself has become a new place of tension, as the actor has made it clear he has questions about the independence of the investigation that is underway. Fisher is getting a lot of support from fans during this ongoing battle, and in a recent Instagram post, Jason Momoa joined the chorus of voices standing with the actor.

Jason Momoa's support here is a potentially powerful statement. While Justice League as a production was something of a flop, Momoa's solo Aquaman movie was a massive hit. A sequel has already been given the green light, which means that Momoa's relationship with DC, and by extension Warner Bros., is ongoing, and important to both sides. Fisher has been the only one speaking out about whatever it was that happened on the set of Justice League, and Momoa could easily stay out of this as most everybody else has done. Though, to be fair, staying quiet on issues isn't exactly Jason Momoa's style.

It will be interesting to see if Jason Momoa has more to say in the coming days. Momoa's words here could be read as a simple statement of support for a friend going through a difficult period, or they could be seen as an endorsement of what Ray Fisher is saying took place. Odds are the other Justice League actors will be part of this investigation being conducted by Warner Bros. Even if they don't have their own stories, they may have witnessed some of what Fisher claims happened.

While Ray Fisher has been unable to go into specifics regarding exactly what happened on the set of Justice League, he has called out director Joss Whedon and producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns specifically as people who were either abusive or supportive of such abuse during the filming. Fisher claims Johns threatened his career when he tried to take his concerns about the production up the proper chain of command.

Whatever happens with the current investigation, it seems likely that we will learn more about what allegedly happened on the set of Justice League, even if it means waiting for non-disclosure agreements to expire. Despite Ray Fisher's issues with DC and Justice League, the actor has made it clear he's committed to continuing in the role if and when Cyborg returns to the big screen.

Justice League’s Ray Fisher and Warner Bros. have engaged in a bit of a back and forth since Fisher initially made claims against director Joss Whedon and DC Films producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. Most recently, Fisher claimed that DC Films President Walter Hamada spoke with him over the phone and allegedly tried to convince him to shift blame away from Johns and more towards Berg and Hamada. Warner Bros. later released a statement in which the studio claimed that no such phone call took place and asserted that Fisher was not cooperating with the investigation. Now, Fisher has responded to that claim.

WB’s claim was that Ray Fisher had refused to meet with the investigator assigned to the case. However, Fisher took to Twitter and asserted that he met with the investigator through a Zoom call on August 26th. In the post, he also included a screenshot of an email he sent to his management team and the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA):

In a second post, Ray Fisher also stated that he announced last month that he would be vetting the investigator to ensure a “fair and protected” process:

As of right now, neither Warner Bros. nor WarnerMedia have responded to Ray Fisher’s recent comments. Before the studios’ most recent statement, the company had been relatively silent about Ray Fisher’s allegations. However, shortly after Fisher’s initial claims, Jon Berg shot down the allegations and claimed Fisher had an issue with saying Cyborg’s “Booyaa” catchphrase.

Fisher has been careful when it comes to what he can and can’t say about the situation, which is due to the fact that he is still subject to the Non-Disclosure Agreement he signed. Despite this, the actor has used social media to address his fans and keep them updated on the situation.

While the situation is already complex, what makes things even more difficult is that Ray Fisher is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to return as Cyborg in the upcoming Flash solo film, which is set to begin shooting next year. As far as we know, Fisher’s role would only be a cameo.

Both Fisher and Warner Bros. have clearly had no problem responding to each other’s claims and, with so many variables within the situation, it’s hard to say how much longer things will persist.

Justice League may be generating buzz due to the upcoming release of the Snyder Cut, but it’s also garnered plenty of attention following accusations made by Cyborg actor Ray Fisher. Back in July, the actor accused Joss Whedon, who took over for Snyder after his departure, of behavior that he described as “gross” and “abusive.” He also claimed that Whedon was allegedly enabled by DC Films’ producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns.This would eventually lead WarnerMedia to launch a third-party investigation into the claims.

Just the other day, Ray Fisher took to Twitter to say that DC Films President Walter Hamada reached out to him in an attempt to convince him to put most of the blame on Joss Whedon and Jon Berg and not Geoff Johns. However, WarnerMedia (via THR) is now refuting that claim:

The WarnerMedia spokesperson also alleged that Ray Fisher has not cooperated with the investigation and that “to date, Mr. Fisher has declined to speak to the investigator.”

What makes this situation even more complicated is the fact that Ray Fisher is currently in negotiations to reprise his role as Cyborg for a cameo in Warner Bros. and DC’s Flash movie. That project is set to begin shooting sometime next year.

Ray Fisher has been very vocal about the situation since first making the initial claims against Joss Whedon. In the weeks that followed, he also made more specific claims against Geoff Johns. In a social media post, Fisher claimed that Johns made a “thinly veiled threat” to his career when the actor and his agent apparently attempted to discuss problems with the powers that be.

Since Ray Fisher first made his claims, neither Geoff Johns nor Joss Whedon have spoken out publicly on the matter. However, Jon Berg did release a statement in which he shot down the actor’s claims, calling them “categorically untrue.” He also alleged that Fisher took issue with having to say Cyborg’s signature catchphrase, “Booyaa.”

At this point in time, Ray Fisher is limited in what he can say regarding his claims against Joss Whedon and the producers at DC Films. This is due to the fact that he’s currently still being beholden to a Non-Disclosure Agreement. In terms of the investigation, WarnerMedia has yet to disclose any specific findings, and there is currently no indication as to how much longer said investigation will continue.

It remains to be seen what will come of the situation, but one thing that can be said is that this Justice League situation will likely continue to develop as time goes on.
