When Kelly Clarkson first joined the daytime TV sphere, I was surprised but, after over a thousand episodes of her eponymous talk show, it’s now difficult to imagine her not being apart of it. Back in February, the singer announced that The Kelly Clarkson Show would officially end after seven seasons and, like some viewers, I'm emotional about that conclusion. And even the actors appearing on Clarkson's remaining episodes are feeling it. Recently, Rita Wilson stopped by the show to discuss touring, and she gave Clarkson well-earned flowers ahead of her farewell.

It's been difficult processing the fact that Clarkson's show will wrap up its seven-season run this fall as part of the 2026 TV schedule. Still, Wilson said everything fans may have been thinking when she detoured into her emotional tribute, which left Clarkson in tears. Check out the sweet moment below:

Cue all of the "awwws." Wilson's sentiments are truly lovely and beautifully sum up a good deal of Clarkson's legacy:

I can easily imagine some audience members possibly needing tissues after those sentiments were shared. At this point, much has been said about the daytime program's conclusion, with some believing Clarkson quit her talk show. However, she assured her fans that that the case. The decision came months after her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock’s, passing, which prompted the singer to think about her priorities and what she needs to pull back on.

The "Behind These Hazel Eyes" singer is known for her bubbly personality and quirky humor, which has arguably made The Kelly Clarkson Show a delightful watch since its debut in 2019. Clarkson's interview with Wilson is so wonderfully on brand, as she pivoted from listing tour essentials to promoting Thieves lozenges that she swears by. The way the host talks about them not only makes me want to try one, but reminds me of what daytime TV is going to be missing. She described:

Despite Clarkson's decision to leave her show, fans shouldn’t expect Clarkson to retire from the entertainment industry for good. She already has plans for what she really wants to do moving forward. Sadly, while that doesn’t include hosting (for now), the singer intends to step back into doing more live performances. As a longtime “Breakaway” fan, I’m excited about the prospect of her getting back to writing and performing music.

More recently, fans also got to enjoy watching Clarkson talk smack with the other coaches on The Voice’s season 29. The season may have ended but, thankfully, NBC has already announced that Clarkson will return for Season 30, along with Queen Latifah, Riley Green and Adam Levine.

As for The Kelly Clarkson Show, though, viewers should do their best to enjoy the final stretch of episodes ahead of the finale this fall. I also have a strong feeling that, before the show is done, other guests will be paying sweet tribute to Clarkson as Rita Wilson has. Check your local listings to see when the show airs in your area.

America’s Dad, Tom Hanks, is arguably the most beloved and well-known Hollywood actor of his time. From the jump, he’s made us laugh with his classic roles, proved he could be a successful actor and screenwriter and grow sustainably in Tinseltown by becoming a celeb with a production company. Needless to say, Hanks' work is widely celebrated, and personally, even more loved. And as he literally full-on leaps into his birthday, plenty of celebs are celebrating the 69-year-old.

The A-lister took to his Instagram yesterday to dip into the festivities a bit early and took the time to share two things. First he explained that the video Hanks posted of himself jumping into a body of water was the only way to celebrate the big occasion. Leave it to the star of the developing Toy Story 5 to find the perfect balance between work and play on his birthday. I’m not sure many would think of, let alone seek out, something that is amusing but productive to ring in their b-day. But I’m not surprised Hanks has. Personally, if I were him, I don’t know if I’d leave that yacht (assuming what he’s jumping off of) or that gorgeous beachy scene. That alone strikes an equilibrium for me.

As mentioned, plenty of loved ones rolled in earlier this morning to officially send the Oscar winner plenty of well wishes for his birthday. Of course, wife, Rita Wilson, was there to kick off the celebrations through her own IG account. She shared a simple standalone image of her husband with her personal sentiments as the caption: “Happy Birthday, my love. 🩷” See the sweet dedication for yourself:

I’m a real sucker for a caring and loving birthday wish, and Wilson’s is no exception. She could’ve posted a catalog of Hollywood Hanks' images, ranging from carpet chic to iconic stills, but rather opted for one in their home. There’s a real sincerity with the veteran actor sitting at home, in regular clothes and with his typewriter. Just add it to the list of why I love this power couple.

Naturally, the Jingle All the Way alum wasn’t the only one to love on Hanks for his 69th. Everyone from John Stamos to Goldie Hawn and beyond showed up in the comments, sending nothing but good vibes and a sweet but odd nickname. Here are just a few of the big names that could be found:

Clearly it’s a birthday many do not miss. As I said, this is just a portion of Hollywood big hitters wishing him well, among many others. The thing I’m a bit puzzled about, though, is Stamos’s name for Hanks. Where did it come from, and is it regularly used (knowing this may or may not be my bday wish this year)?

The interesting nickname aside, all of us at CinemaBlend also want to join in with Wilson and co to wish Tom Hanks a happy 69th birthday! To celebrate, I may very well dive into his 2025 movie calendar title, The Phoenician Scheme.

Now and Then is one of those ‘90s movies not enough people talk about anymore. Considered at the time the Stand By Me of female friendship movies, the 1995 film showed us the summer four teenage girls spent in 1970 and how they made a pact to be with each other, even in adulthood during the '90s.

I’ve always had my eye on the friendship pairing between Roberta and Chrissy for being total opposites, though they work well together. But, after re-watching the comedy-drama, I’m still upset that the two didn’t end up together romantically as adults.

The Original Script Intended For Roberta To Be Gay

Back in 2023, on Now What? With Brooke Shields, Rosie O’Donnell, who played older Roberta, said her character’s lesbian identity was cut out. She got real about a producer (a rep later told People she meant to say that the studio, New Line Cinema, made the final decision) who reportedly saw the movie and wanted to take out “every little, tiny thing that I had done to build the character into an accurate gay woman.” That fear the studio allegedly had is a real shame. With Now and Then being a coming-of-age story, it would have been radical and invigorating to see a young queer character in the ‘70s, and later as an adult in the '90s, navigate her sexuality at a time when coming out wasn’t common.

The Harriet the Spy actress also acknowledged that Now and Then came out during a time before great LGBTQ+ characters made an impact on television, like in Will & Grace, or when Ellen DeGeneres came out. Even though O’Donnell didn’t explicitly say that the script had Roberta and Chrissy as endgame, it still would have been a great opportunity for Roberta to have explored her sexuality if she started to have feelings for her best friend.

Roberta And Chrissy Looked Out For Each Other More Than Their Other Friends

Throughout the female friendship movie, Roberta and Chrissy were shown to be closer to each other than to Samantha and Teeny. When it came to being there for Chrissy, Roberta was the first to run to her rescue, specifically protecting her from The Wormers’ jello balloons or trying to get bird droppings out of her hair while everyone else laughed.

However, the one scene that really made me ship Roberta and Chrissy was when Roberta pretended to drown in the pond, and Chrissy was the only one willing to do mouth-to-mouth. While Samantha and Teeny saw Roberta’s faking as a moment of defeat for not being quick to perform CPR on their friend, Chrissy saw it as a moment of anger and hurt that she pretended to be dead. After Roberta apologized to Chrissy, the awkward looks between the two suggested that maybe something more could have happened if their friends hadn't interrupted them.

Chrissy Wanted To Get Married To A Doctor, Which Roberta Ended Up Being

Towards the third act of Now and Then, Chrissy had her three friends make a pact to always be there for each other, saying, “If Teeny goes off to Hollywood or I marry a rich doctor.” Yet, lo and behold, Roberta ended up being a gynecologist as an adult who delivered Chrissy’s baby. But unfortunately, Roberta is not the doctor that Chrissy married. It’s Morton, the geeky kid who was pining for Chrissy in 1970. Roberta instead "lives in sin with her boyfriend." Those random pairings just don't sit right with me.

It would have been a sweet reveal if the film revealed that the doctor Chrissy envisioned marrying ended up being her best friend, Roberta. For Roberta to have delivered her wife's baby would have been really romantic and a cute ending for the two. Especially the endearing exchange the pair had after the delivery, where they both mouthed “I love you” to each other.

Their Differing Personalities Could Have Balanced Each Other Out

The two were very different from each other. Roberta was a tomboy who cussed, played sports, and wasn’t afraid of confrontation. Chrissy, on the other hand, was girly, against cursing, and was the farthest thing from an athlete.

Despite the differing personalities between Roberta and Chrissy, they could have helped each other grow if they had ended up together. Roberta would have inspired Chrissy to push out of her comfort zone, and Chrissy would have helped bring out Roberta's softer side. When opposites attract and build a life together, it can be a beautiful thing.

A Same-Sex Pairing Would Have Embraced Queerness In The ‘90s

There were a few films of the ‘90s that had LGBTQ+ themes, but had bad representation. In movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Crying Game, transgender reveals were depicted as a shocking twist that led to characters reacting by throwing up. Movies like Clueless and My Best Friend’s Wedding had lovable male gay characters in supporting roles, but were depicted as stereotypical with no development.

Now and Then could have been a ‘90s movie where we see that by the time Roberta is an adult, she’s embraced her queerness and settled down with a lucky lady. If Chrissy and Roberta were endgame, the romantic pairing could have shown audiences of the era that female childhood best friends can evolve into life partners without the relationship being viewed as tragic or as a comic relief. Their authentic portrayal of lesbian love could have simply been just as ordinary, warm, and loving as any other couple’s.

No matter how many times I rewatch Now and Then, I’ll always ship Roberta and Chrissy, with plenty of disappointment that the two weren’t endgame. I’d like to believe that if the planned film-adapted TV series panned out and was made today, LGBTQ+ inclusivity would have been seen through the pairing of the two pals, with hints that Roberta and Chrissy had the potential to develop more romantically. In any case-of-the-week procedural, you get a slew of guest stars popping in and out. However, in The Good Wife, the army of talent Robert and Michelle King’s show assembled to support the cast of regulars is next level. From actors we already knew and loved when the show was airing on CBS in the 2010s to performers who have since become A-list names, this list is really a who’s-who of Hollywood’s finest talents.

Pedro Pascal - Nathan Landry - 6 Episodes

These days, we know Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic in the Fantastic Four or Joel in The Last of Us. However, before all that – and even before he died on Game of Thrones – he played the prosecutor Nathan Landry in six episodes of The Good Wife across Seasons 1 (Episodes 8, 13, 14 and 15) and 2 (Episodes 1 and 12).

Cristin Milioti - Onya Eggertson - 1 Episode

A handful of years before she was revealed as the mother of the How I Met Your Mother cast and over a decade before she stunned us all with her portrayal of Sofia Falcone in The Penguin, Cristin Milioti played the paranoid Onya Eggertson in Season 2, Episode 1 of The Good Wife.

Brian Tyree Henry - Randall Simmons - 1 Episode

In Season 2, Episode 2, Brian Tyree Henry plays Randall Simmons, a man Will and Alicia defend in military court. Of course, after this brief role, the actor went on to have an illustrious career as he starred in the hit show Atlanta and films like Causeway (for which he earned a 2023 Oscar nomination).

Rachel Brosnahan - Caitlin Fenton - 1 Episode

Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman, and before that, she was The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Before those career-defining fast-talking roles, she played Caitlin Fenton, a client Alicia worked with during Season 2, Episode 6.

Michael J. Fox - Louis Canning - 26 Episodes

I think there’s an argument to be made that The Good Wife should be considered one of Michael J. Fox’s best projects. Yes, there’s Family Ties, Back to the Future and Spin City. However, his cunning and sly lawyer Louis Canning is an incredible character who he plays to perfection in 26 episodes across Seasons 2 through 7.

Ana Gasteyer - Judge Patrice Lessner - 5 Episodes

Making sure the lawyers say “in my opinion” in their various statements is Judge Patrice Lessner’s signature move, and it’s hilarious. That funny element of this character is perfect, too, considering she’s played in Seasons 1, 2, 4 and 6 by Saturday Night Live alum and comedy genius Ana Gasteyer.

Mike Colter - Lemond Bishop - 21 Episodes

Mike Colter has become a Michelle and Robert King repertory player thanks to his leading role in the show Evil, and you likely also recognize him for playing the titular Luke Cage in the Marvel series. However, before that, he played the drug lord Lemond Bishop in 21 episodes of The Good Wife between Seasons 1 and 6.

Melissa Benoist - Molly - 1 Episode

I was introduced to Melissa Benoist when she appeared on Glee. Then, The CW’s Supergirl made her a household name. However, long before all that, she had a small guest starring role on The Good Wife as Molly, Cary Agos’ first cousin, in Season 2, Episode 9.

David Oyelowo - Judge Edward Weldon - 1 Episode

From Selma to Lawmen: Bass Reeves, David Oyelowo has become well known for playing very powerful people. That was true back in 2010, too, when he played Judge Edward Weldon in Season 2, Episode 11 of The Good Wife.

So, it was fun to come see him play on The Good Wife when he appeared in Season 6, Episodes 2, 3 and 5 as the lawyer Dean Levine-Wilkins.

Sarah Silverman - Stephanie Engler - 1 Episode

Sarah Silverman had been in the comedy game for a long time before playing Stephanie Engler in Season 2, Episode 22 of The Good Wife. And she brought that sense of humor to the show while also showing off her more dramatic side while playing this client of Lockhart/Gardner.

Michael Kelly - Mickey Gunn - 2 Episodes

Michael Kelly is one of those actors who seemingly has shown up in everything. He’s a well-known character actor who has been in projects like Jack Ryan, Lioness, The Penguin, House of Cards and so much more. And in Season 3, Episodes 2 and 8 of The Good Wife he played Mickey Gunn, a political strategist who spent a lot of time verbally sparring with Alan Cumming’s Eli Gold.

Overall, while the actor brought the sarcastic sense of humor we know and love him for thanks to Friends, this show also let him show off a more dramatic side.

Kristin Chenoweth - Peggy Byrne - 2 Episodes

The Good Wife loves its Broadway guest stars, and one of their biggest gets on this front was Kristin Chenoweth. The Tony winner and Wicked alum played Peggy Byrn in Season 4, Episodes 1 and 6 and it was always fun to see her interact with Alan Cumming’s Eli Gold.

Nathan Lane - Clarke Hayden - 15 Episodes

In the beginning (Season 4), Clarke Hayden is a trustee assigned to Lockheart/ Gardner, and he worked on their horrendous financial situation. Later, he worked with the firm as a lawyer. This character who appears in 15 episodes across Seasons 4 and 5 is played by the remarkable Nathan Lane, who you most definitely know from his legendary work in films like The Birdcage, The Producers and The Lion King.

Carrie Preston - Elsbeth Tascioni - 14 Episodes

Carrie Preston’s Elsbeth Tascioni was so iconic on The Good Wife and The Good Fight that she got her own show. After starring in 14 episodes of the flagship show across every season (except Season 2) and five episodes of the spinoff and winning an Emmy for her work, the Kings created Elsbeth, a hit CBS show based around Preston’s lawyer-turned-crime-solver.

Stockard Channing - Veronica Loy - 11 Episodes

Who do you hire to play Julianna Margulies’ on-screen mother? Stockard Channing, of course. In 11 episodes across Seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7, the Grease actress appeared as Veronica Loy, the mom of our leading lady, Alicia Florrick.

Will Patton - Mike Tascioni - 4 Episodes

Elsbeth talks a lot about her ex-husband and her son. While we didn’t meet her kid, Teddy, until Elsbeth, we did meet her former spouse, Mike Tascioni, in four episodes of The Good Wife during Season 7, Episodes 15, 16, 17 and 19. He was played by Will Patton, who you likely recognize from one of the best sports movies, Remember the Titans, and shows like Yellowstone.

Parker Posey - Vanessa Gold - 3 Episodes

Who can go toe-to-toe with Alan Cumming and play his ex? Parker Posey, of course. The indie film darling played Eli Gold’s ex-wife in Season 3, Episodes 6, 15 and 20, and she was the perfect person to play this vital character in the political consultant’s story.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph - Margie - 1 Episode

Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph appeared in one episode of The Good Wife, Season 4, Episode 21, to be exact. She played Margie on the show. These days, she’s best known for her turns in The Holdover, Dolemite is My Name and Only Murders in the Building, so it’s cool to think that this CBS procedural was one of her first-ever on-screen gigs.

Gillian Jacobs - Sonia - 1 Episode

In an almost blink and you’ll miss it role, Gillian Jacobs (of Community fame) appeared in the pilot of The Good Wife as Alicia and Cary’s assistant.

Christina Ricci - Therese Dodd - 1 Episode

Before The Good Wife, we knew Christina Ricci from The Addams Family and Casper. In more recent years, she and the Yellowjackets cast are all the rage. However, for one episode in 2012, Season 4, Episode 7, to be exact, she played comedienne Therese Dodd in the hit CBS drama.

Wallace Shawn - Charles Lester - 3 Episodes

We know and love Wallace Shawn for saying “inconceivable” in The Princess Bride, and we also adore him for his roles in The Incredibles, Toy Story and more. We also know and love him for playing the Lemond Bishop’s lawyer, Charles Lester, in both The Good Wife and The Good Fight. And for the sake of this story, he was specifically in three episodes of the flagship series, appearing in Season 4, Episode 16, Season 5, Episode 13 and Season 6, Episode 22.

Kyle MacLachlan - Josh Perotti - 4 Episodes

Kyle MacLachlan is a TV legend. Obviously, Twin Peaks is what he’s best known for, and more recently, he and the cast of Fallout have made quite the splash on streaming. Between all that, he appeared in four episodes of The Good Wife (Season 4, Episodes 14 and 15 and Season 6, Episodes 5 and 6). He played Josh Perotti on the show, a federal prosecutor.

Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor - Linda Underwood - 1 Episode

Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is best known for her work in movies like Origin, King Richard and Nickel Boys, and she’s reached great acclaim for them. In the earlier days of her career, though, she was featured in Season 1, Episode 5 of The Good Wife, where she played Linda Underwood.

Matthew Lillard - Rowby Canton - 2 Episodes

It’s honestly a joy to see Matthew Lillard in anything. Of course, we know him best as one of the original Ghostfaces in Scream and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, and he’s made waves in recent years for Five Nights at Freddys. However, he can do more than genre work, as proven by his two episodes of The Good Wife (Season 5, Episode 11 and Season 7, Episode 12) where he played musician Rowby Canton.

Vanessa Williams - Courtney Paige - 4 Episodes

Vanessa Williams is well known and loved for her roles on long-lasting shows like Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives. However, she’s also a King repertory player. She appeared in four episodes of The Good Wife, Season 7, Episodes 7 through 10, as CEO Courtney Paige, and then she showed up as a totally different character years later in the spinoff series, Elsbeth.

This list is honestly barely scratching the surface of the iconic actors who have been recruited to guest star on The Good Wife. The list is honestly elite, and it’s always fun to go back and see so many performers during so many different stages of their careers.

The list of Taylor Sheridan’s shows feels like it's neverending, and the so the Rolodex of famous actors he’s also gotten into said series also feels infinite. From Kevin Costner’s role as John Dutton in the game-changing Yellowstone to Zoë Saldaña and Jeremy Renner’s turns in shows from Sheridan that aren’t about the Dutton family, the group of actors he’s gathered for these projects is staggering. 

Kevin Costner - Yellowstone 

Kevin Costner is kind of the man who started it all. At the time, he was the most famous person in the Yellowstone cast, and for five seasons he played the patriarch of the modern Dutton family, John Dutton. While he did leave Taylor Sheridan’s flagship western after the first half of Season 5, there’s no denying how much this character gave to the show and his career. 

Sam Elliott - 1883 

Some of Sam Elliott’s best movies, like Tombstone, are Westerns. And while Elliott has dabbled in television, there’s no doubt 1883 is a standout moment in his career. He joined Sheridan’s show as Shea Brennan, a Union Civil War veteran who agrees to take a group of immigrants West. He leads the group of pioneers on a journey from Texas to Montana, and Elliott gives a standout performance as the no-nonsense yet emotionally complex leader of the caravan. 

Harrison Ford - 1923 

Harrison Ford had never led a TV show until 2022 when he starred in 1923 as Jacob Dutton. While he’s known and beloved for playing Indiana Jones and Han Solo in film franchises, the Yellowstone prequel series was a fantastic turn in his career as he reunited with Helen Mirren, and led the spectacular cast of 1923. 

Zoë Saldaña - Lioness 

There are so many actors on this list who we likely never thought we’d see leading a TV series because they’re big movie stars. Well, if you’ve seen the Avatar movies or the Marvel movies in order, you’re aware that Zoë Saldaña has been busy for years between those and other projects. However, she joined the cast of Lioness in 2023 Joe, a CIA operative. 

Helen Mirren -1923 

Cara Dutton is one of the leaders of the Dutton household, and Helen Mirren plays her perfectly. She’s a confident Irish woman who knows how to run her household, and she and her husband Jacob are a perfect pair. Part of the reason why is Mirren and Harrison Ford are an excellent couple is they came back together for this project after working together on The Mosquito Coast in 1986. 

Tim McGraw - 1883 

When you think of Tim McGraw, country music is likely the first thing that comes to mind. However, he’s also a great actor, and 1883 proved that as he led the series as James Dutton, the man who moved his family from Tennessee to Montana to the ranch that is known today as The Yellowstone. McGraw played the character – alongside his wife Faith Hill who plays Margaret Dutton – for the first time in Yellowstone, and then after that, he signed on to make this miniseries about the Dutton’s big move. 

Kelly Reilly -Yellowstone 

Kelly Reilly was an established character actor before this, but Yellowstone made her a star. Her turn as Beth Dutton is magnificent, and watching her spar with Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton and fall in love with Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler are two of the reasons why she’s one of the major highlights of Taylor Sheridan’s flagship series. 

Billy Bob Thornton- 1883 

If you want to see the power of Taylor Sheridan and his casts, look no further than the fact that he got Billy Bob Thornton to make a cameo as Marshal Jim Courtright in Episode 2 of 1883. After that, he went on to sign up to lead Sheridan’s show Landman. However, the television journey within this Paramount universe began on the Yellowstone prequel.  

Jeremy Renner - Mayor Of Kingstown 

After starring in Taylor Sheridan’s film Wind River, Jeremy Renner collaborated with him again by joining the cast of his and Hugh Dillon’s show Mayor of Kingstown. The Avengers actor plays the titular Mayor, Mike McLusky, and he helps broker power between law enforcement, the prison and the power players in the town.  

Cole Hauser - Yellowstone 

Rip Wheeler was branded with the Y when he was young, and he’s given it to many ranch hands who live and work on the Yellowstone. While he’s not a Dutton by blood (though he is by law since he married Beth), he’s arguably one of the most loyal members of the family. Cole Hauser is the man behind this beloved character. While he had roles in big movies like Good Will Hunting, Dazed and Confused and 2 Fast 2 Furious, this part is arguably what made him a star.  

Faith Hill - 1883 

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have been married since 1996, and in 1883 they played the married couple Margaret and James Dutton. Hill is best known for her music and she had a few minor acting roles earlier in her career. However, this Yellowstone prequel was her first leading role, and she killed it as the surefire, tough and loving pioneer and mother.  

Tom Hanks - 1883 

You’ll probably do a double take when you see Tom Hanks as General George Meade in Episode 2 of 1883. The iconic actor appeared in a flashback that showed Tim McGraw’s character fighting in the Civil War. While we know him for starring in massive movies like Saving Private Ryan and Sleepless in Seattle, in this Taylor Sheridan show, he played a small yet impactful part in this sweeping story.  

David Oyelowo - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

From The Butler and Selma, David Oyelowo is a formidable actor known best for his roles in these historic dramas. In 2023, he joined Sheridan’s series Lawmen: Bass Reeves, to play the titular man who was the first Black deputy U.S. Marshall. 

Wes Bentley - Yellowstone 

Jamie Dutton is a fascinating character. He’s not a cowboy like his brothers, and he’s always butting heads with his sister Beth. His story is complex and driven by his confusion about his place in his family. Wes Bentley plays this complex and often villainous character so well, and it’s a great addition to his already impressive career that includes films like American Beauty and The Hunger Games.  

Rita Wilson - 1883 

In Episode 6 of 1883, Rita Wilson appears to play a shop owner named Carol. Both she and her husband Tom Hanks had small cameos in this Yellowstone miniseries, and it goes to show how many incredibly famous and talented actors and singers will show up for these shows, even for a small part. 

Shea Whigham - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

Colonel George Reeves was the Confederate army leader who cheated Bass Reeves out of his freedom. He’s played by Shea Whigham, a fantastic character actor who is known for his roles in TV shows like Perry Mason, Boardwalk Empire and more. It’s also worth mentioning that Lawmen isn’t the first time he’s worked with Sheridan as he had a role in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which the Yellowstone creator wrote. 

Luke Grimes - Yellowstone 

Much like his on-screen siblings played by Kelly Reilly and Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes had a solid career before Yellowstone. However, his turn as Kayce Dutton made him a household name. Also, on top of his successful acting career, which involves this massive modern Western, he’s a country singer, and his music has been featured in Taylor Sheridan’s show.  

Nicole Kidman - Lioness 

Nicole Kidman plays CIA senior supervisor Kaitlyn Meade in Lioness. Before this, she made an impact in the TV space through the HBO hit Big Little Lies. She also starred in the shows The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers before signing on to be part of Taylor Sheridan’s political thriller that airs on Paramount+. 

Sylvester Stallone - Tulsa King 

Other than a few cameos and guest spots here and there, Sylvester Stallone hasn’t really done TV in a big way. However, that changed when he signed on to play Dwight "The General" Manfredi in Taylor Sheridan’s gangster drama Tulsa King. 

Will Patton - Yellowstone 

If you haven’t watched Yellowstone, be warned, there’s a major spoiler ahead! You’ve been warned.

One of the big reveals in Yellowstone came when Jamie found out that John Dutton wasn’t his biological father, and he was adopted. In Seasons 3 and 4, Wes Bentley’s character reconnected with his birth father, Garrett Randall, and he’s played by Will Patton, who is also known for movies like Remember the Titans and Armageddon.  

Morgan Freeman - Lioness 

Of course, Morgan Freeman plays a powerful character in Lioness. The actor with the most illustrious career and seriously iconic voice, joined the Taylor Sheridan show to play Secretary of State Edwin Mullins. 

Dennis Quaid - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

In Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Dennis Quaid plays Sherrill Lynn. He is one of the series regulars, and like the titular character, he’s a deputy U.S. Marshall. 

Josh Holloway - Yellowstone 

Typically, in a Yellowstone show, one of the Dutton's adversaries is some sort of outsider who is trying to take their land. In Season 3, that guy was named Roarke, and Lost’s Josh Holloway played him. 

Aidan Gillen - Mayor Of Kingstown 

You know and likely love to hate Aidan Gillen as Littlefinger in Game of Thrones. I guarantee you’ll also know and love to hate him as the evil Milo in Mayor of Kingstown too. 

Michael Kelly - Lioness 

Michael Kelly is well known for his roles in action-packed and political thrillers like House of Cards and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. So, his joining Lioness to play the CIA’s deputy director Byron Westfield feels very fitting.  

Donald Sutherland - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

The late great Donald Sutherland’s final role was as Judge Parker in Lawmen: Bass Reeves. From M*A*S*H to The Hunger Games to Pride and Prejudice, and so much more, his career was truly legendary and he capped it off with this Taylor Sheridan show. 

Josh Lucas - Yellowstone 

When you think of John Dutton, Kevin Costner is understandably probably the first person you think of. However, he’s not the only actor who plays the Yellowstone’s patriarch. In flashbacks, he’s portrayed by Josh Lucas, an actor who is also known for his parts in films like Sweet Home Alabama and Ford v. Ferrari. 

Graham Greene - 1883 

In the finale of 1883, Graham Greene plays Spotted Eagle, a Native American leader who helps guide James Dutton toward what will become his home in Montana. Before this, Greene worked with Sheridan on the film Wind River, and he has a history with other members of the Yellowstone cast as he performed alongside Kevin Costner on Dances with Wolves. 

Jacki Weaver - Yellowstone 

Jacki Weaver – an actress known for her roles in films like Silver Linings Playbook and Animal Kingdom – joined Yellowstone in Season 4 as Caroline Warner. She’s one of the folks who works at Market Equities, and she’s trying to obtain part of the Dutton’s ranch to build an airport.

Jerome Flynn -1923 

Jerome Flynn is best known for playing Bronn – a killer and cynical mercenary – on Game of Thrones. In 1923, he plays Banner Creighton, a rancher who gets into a partnership with a businessman who is trying to take the Dutton’s ranch. 

Andrea Savage - Tulsa King 

You likely know Andrea Savage as a comedic actress because of her roles in shows like I’m Sorry, Episodes and Veep. However, she turned into the dramatic genre and showed off a different side of her range by playing Stacy Beale in Tulsa King. 

Neal McDonough - Yellowstone

You can always count on Neal McDonough to play a really good bad guy. He did it in DC’s Arrowverse as Damien Darhk. He did it in Justified as Robert Quarles. Of course, he did it in Yellowstone too, as he played one of Season 2’s antagonists, Malcolm Beck. 

Overall, the list of performers who have worked on one of Taylor Sheridan’s many shows is overwhelming and growing. From A-listers to legendary character actors, many have said yes to working on these series, and that will likely keep happening as the super producer and writer continues to create. 

Fans and actors alike tend to take some time to pay tribute whenever a notable star has a birthday, and that’s particularly true when it comes to someone like Tom Hanks. The beloved actor – who’s been dubbed “America’s Dad” by some – is celebrating 67 years around the sun this weekend. As a result, a number of people have taken to social media to wish Hanks well. Unsurprisingly, his wife, fellow actor Rita Wilson, also honored him on his special day. She did so by penning a sweet tribute to her hubby, and it’s honestly perfect. 

The Big actor’s b-day is actually today, July 9, and his wife took to Instagram bright and early to write out a message in celebration of him. The Now and Then alum shared a lengthy caption in which she referred to her husband as her “lover,” “best friend” and more. She also detailed a number of his various interests (and she effectively paints the picture of an incredibly complex guy in the process). Overall, the note below sweetly sums up her feelings for her spouse of over three decades: 

I think I’m getting a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of sweetness that’s on display. These two have proven to be one of the most affectionate couples in Hollywood, so this social media post definitely tracks. The 66-year-old actress also included a photo of her man, which you can see for yourself down below: 

Additionally, the post was met with a number of kind reactions from fans and celebrities. The stars who shared birthday greetings were Priyanka Chopra, Sharon Stone and LeAnn Rimes. You love to see stars shouting out fellow stars and, in this case, it’s especially lovely since this chorus of well wishes was initiated by such a wonderful tribute.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson – who tied the knot in 1988 – have shared a number of tender moments in the public eye during the past few decades. One such occasion is when they celebrated 29 years together around the time Hanks marked the release of his movie The Circle. During that interview, Wilson spoke about how her hubby supported her amid her 2015 breast cancer diagnosis and surgery. 

The couple ultimately faced another difficult health situation together in 2020 when they both tested positive for COVID-19 during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Two of the first major celebrities to contract it, the couple experienced tough symptoms, which they opened up about after the fact. Nevertheless, they were downright delightful during quarantine, with the Jingle All the Way actress even proving she has serious bars by reciting Naughty By Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray.” So in the end, not even COVID could seemingly extinguish the optimistic spirits that these two have. 

While we’re obviously not privy to all of the details of their marriage, what we see indicates that Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks truly love each other. The two continue to represent true relationship goals and, quite frankly, you love to see it. Here’s to a happy birthday for Mr. Hanks and continued years of happiness shared with Ms. Wilson!

The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing, with celebrities flocking to the French city to premiere some of the most anticipated movies of the year. One of these films is Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, which has an all-star cast that includes Tom Hanks, who attended the event with his wife Rita Wilson this week. However, rumors swirled when photos of the couple looking angry at the premiere started circulating, with many believing they were in the midst of a heated argument. These rumors have now been put to rest by Wilson, who revealed what they were actually talking about on the red carpet. 

While photos made it look like Hanks and Wilson were arguing with someone at the festival, this turns out to be a wild misunderstanding. According to the actress, her and her husband’s looks of anger were actually looks of confusion. She posted on her Instagram Story that the couple was having a hard time hearing the festival workers because it was so loud, and they were unsure of where to go when they arrived at the event. It turns out there was nothing but good vibes on the carpet despite it being difficult to hear. Cannes is one of the largest film festivals in the world, and thousands of people flock to the south of France every year to check out the movies being screened and the stars promoting their work. It’s no wonder the venue was incredibly loud, as excitement must’ve been in the air. Wes Anderson’s films attract attention from cinephiles due to his distinct style, so Asteroid City was definitely one of the highlights of the festival schedule. 

The festival seems to be a hub for putting rumors to rest this year. Sydney Sweeney squashed Glen Powell romance rumors when she arrived in Cannes with her engagement ring on. Lily Rose Depp also used the festival circuit to squash rumors of a toxic work environment on HBO’s The Idol. I guess there is something about Europe that makes people want to clear the air. I’m personally happy that there wasn’t any bad blood at the festival as previously rumored, and everyone was there having a great time celebrating wonderful movies. 

Along with Tom Hanks, Asteroid City also stars Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Edward Norton and Steve Carrell, among dozens of other stars. It is a dramedy about mysterious happenings at a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in 1955. The film is getting positive reactions coming out of the festival, positioning it to become a potential Oscar contender. It will have some stiff competition though, as Martin Scorsese also premiered his film Killers of the Flower Moon, to rave critic reviews. There's certainly room for both of these films to shine, and I personally can’t wait to check them both out later this year.

There are few if any in this world who have had a life quite like Lisa Marie Presley. As the daughter of Elvis she became one of the most famous people in the world after doing nothing more than simply being born. Following her death, fans of the musician are remembering the icon and the life she lived.

Lisa Marie Presley suffered cardiac arrest on Thursday, January 12, and was rushed to a local hospital, but she died later in the day. Several of those who knew her, and those who simply felt like they did, have been remembering Presley. In a statement to THR, actor Nicolas Cage, who was married to Presley for two years, remembered both Presley and her son Benjamin, who passed away in 2020. Cage said: 

“Tumultuous” is a word being used by many when discussing the life of Lisa Marie Presley. While many might expect that the daughter of one of the biggest stars in the world had an easy life, Parsley’s struggles are well known due to her lifelong position in the public eye. Like Presley, sitcom vet and game show host Leah Remini was once a member of the Church of Scientology, and made reference to this in her own remembrance, saying:

Lisa Marie Presley was even more in the limelight than usual recently due to Elvis himself being the talk of Hollywood once again. The Baz Luhrmann movie about the King of Rock and Roll was in competition this week at the Golden Globe Awards, where Lisa Marie was in attendance as Austin Butler won the Best Actor award for playing the title role. Rita Wilson, wife of the film's co-star Tom Hanks, took to Instagram to talk about meeting Presley during the film’s production. 

But beyond those that knew Lisa Marie Presley, there were all those who knew about Lisa Marie. From her famous father to her brief marriage to Michael Jackson to her own work in the music industry, she was always in the public eye. Still, there are few who could likely ever understand quite what it was like to be her. One who perhaps did have a perspective similar to hers, despite never actually meeting her, Sean Ono Lennon, posted his own thoughts on her passing.

Dozens more of those who knew Lisa Marie Presley well and those who only met her briefly are now remembering the woman after she is gone. Presley is survived by her mother Pricilla and three daughters. While her life may have been difficult this outpouring of love shows that Lisa Marie Presley clearly had so many that loved her.

I’m generally fascinated by stories of the well-to-do and über famous hanging out with one another. This is why when former Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner wrote about a party longtime Hollywood It couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson once threw, my interest was piqued. Particularly once I knew icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Springsteen were involved.

I don’t often think about the possibility of The Boss being in the same room with The Terminator, but it happened at least once. Setting the stage, Wenner shared that a party Hanks and Wilson held included a slew of esteemed guests, not limited to Bruce and Patti Springsteen and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, though those couples are important to this story. In fact, it was the “Glory Days” singer who told a story that was impactful enough that it silenced the entire table at the dinner party. 

In his memoir Like a Rolling Stone Wenner wrote (via Page Six) that Springsteen told a story about sharing his life with another that was so thoughtful the entire room listened enraptured.  The moral he ended on was this: 

It seems to have been an impactful moment, as Wenner described a room in silence after the story was told. It was Arnold Schwarzenegger who brought things back down to a lighthearted mood, jokingly telling his then-wife Maria Shriver, “Time to go Maria! Heel!’ (A seemingly on-brand move for the End of Days actor, who allegedly once farted in a co-star’s face, on purpose.)

Of course, it’s also worth noting that Bruce Springsteen is still married to Patti, his second wife, with whom he has been wed to since 1991. On the other hand, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver had a high-profile divorce that only wrapped in 2021. They split after it was confirmed Schwarzenegger had fathered a child with a household staff member. Their son, Joseph Baena, had been born in 1997.  

Also worth noting is that while I wouldn’t have guessed a dinner table with both Schwarzenegger and Springsteen, Tom Hanks and the singer have had a supportive friendship over the years. The actor was there when the “Born to Run” singer played Madison Square Garden in 2009. In 2017, he also did a Tribeca Film Festival Q&A with the singer, among other notable times they’ve been seen in public together. He once even told CinemaBlend’s podcast ReelBlend how it was a Bruce Springsteen song that made a Philadelphia moment so iconic.

Maria Shriver and Rita Wilson have also been friendly for years, with Wilson calling Shriver her “Scorpio sister.” The two have also been on panels about being women in Hollywood over 50 and more. So, with these connections in mind, it’s easy to see how they all ended up at a dinner party together even if the singer and actor’s perspectives on things seem quite different. Though it is worth noting Arnold Schwarzenegger has grown more thoughtful as he’s turned 75. 

What’s Kourtney Kardashian latest scheme to get pregnant with Travis Barker? Did Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn get secretly engaged? The answers to these and similar questions have no direct bearing on most of our lives, yet we continue to be fascinated by what the “It” celebrity couples are up to anyway. A new study has crunched the numbers on our (or should I say my…) fascination, with Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively and Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson as some unsurprising entries among the most Googled couples. However, the No. 1 couple overall probably isn't who you'd think it was.

The study conducted by DC Jewellery used five specific factors in its methodology in order to rank the top 10 celebrity couples in the world: combined search volume, combined Instagram and Twitter followers, how long they have been in their relationship and how long they have been married. The idea was to gauge the public’s invested interest in them against their success/longevity as a couple. Each duo then garnered a “celeb couple score,” and based on their averaging system, a certain NBA player and his wife dunked the coveted lead position: LeBron and Savannah James. Truth be told, their marriage isn’t as in-your-face as some of the other “competitors,” which is why we’re so surprised. Not to mention, Brinson (now James) isn’t a high-profile actor or athlete to help bolster their standings in these kind of analytics.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, for example, are both performers in their own rights and are constantly making headlines for their sarcastic jokes at each other's expense (which explains why they were the No. 1 in terms of most Google searches). And what we know of Tom Hanks is that he’ll make his opinions quite clear where Lightyear without Tim Allen is concerned or about any fan who dares to knock into his wife Rita Wilson. The study showed that Hanks and Wilson have lasted longer than all the rest on the list, too – and no kidding, because they just celebrated their 34th anniversary together.

LeBron James was seemingly able to add this new personal accolade to his long list of professional accomplishments – which includes two Gold Olympic medals, four NBA MVP awards and four championship rings – due to the huge numbers that his name puts on this kind of scoreboard. The 37-year-old father of three and his wife have more than 120 million followers across both Twitter and Instagram, most of which coming from the power forward. They also have generated over 70 million Google searches between them, per the study. But if that wasn’t proof enough that the James are #CoupleGoals, then just note that the NBA champion’s self-produced high school biopic (which will presumably document the couple’s own origin story as well) is heading to Peacock Premium subscribers in 2023. Who else in this list can claim that their real-life love story will soon part of a major motion picture? I’ll wait...

A lot of other celebrity couples made some noise in the study, just not in the numero uno relationship spot. Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham and Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick came in second and third respectively for the longest-lasting couples (after my man Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, of course). The two couples who got married the quickest? Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth, who all wed after less than a year of dating. And Taylor Swift and her rumored husband-to-be, Joe Alwyn, blasted everyone out of the water for most social media followers.

All in all, though, we must admit that these kind of rankings need to be taken with a grain of salt. The study indicated that celebrities without data for certain categories were removed outright so as to create a “level playing field.” This seemingly accounts for why the likes of Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson or JLo and Ben Affleck were nowhere to be seen, despite their relationships (and frequent engagements) almost always being a hot topic.

Alas, there can be only one King (and Queen). And King James retains his crown...

Tom Hanks has been considered one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. After all, he recently crashed a wedding that occurred on the Santa Monica Pier by offering to take a picture with the happy bride and groom. He also gave a refund to a couple who wasn’t happy with his Larry Crowne movie and even appeared in Carly Ray Jepson’s adorable music video despite it being one of the coldest recorded winters in New York. While this nice guy may not swear much in his movies, Tom Hanks dropped an f-bomb after fans knocked into his wife, Rita Wilson.

A recent unfortunate moment experienced by Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson shows that even the nicest guy in Hollywood can still get angry like any other human being. According to TMZ, the A-list Hollywood couple were simply walking to their car Wednesday night when a storm of fans bombarded them asking for autographs and selfies. The crowd went out of control up to the point where one fan bumped into Wilson. 

As soon as the Forrest Gump star saw his wife shoved, he rushed to her rescue. He then put his hand on one guy and said to the crowd of fans, “This is my wife, back the fuck off!” Hanks and his wife went back to their car, but not without the Cast Away star giving them all the "death stare" for a few seconds. 

This incident should show fans everywhere never to mess with Tom Hanks and his leading lady of 34 years ever again. They celebrated their anniversary this year by sharing a sweet wedding photo wearing the most '80s wedding dress and suit you've seen. They met on the set of the ‘80s sitcom Bosom Buddies and ended up reuniting in the 1985 comedy Volunteers. After dating for three years since that shoot, they tied the knot and have a blended family of four children. It’s like these two were destined to be together! Hanks and Wilson have had to battle health challenges together like contracting COVID in 2020 and when Wilson contracted and beat breast cancer. It looks like there is nothing these two can’t get through together.

Another opportunity to see a side of Tom Hanks you’ve never seen before is in the new Elvis biopic. He’ll be playing Elvis Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, an undocumented immigrant who had a notorious gambling problem and managed to take half of Elvis’ earnings. While Tom Hanks will still be managing to keep his reputation of not playing the bad guys in movies, it looks like this character of his will still be pretty complex compared to other stuff we've seen him in. 

Tom Hanks may have lost his cool in front of a herd of fans, but he’s still the nicest guy in Hollywood for protecting his lady love. Be sure to watch this beloved actor on the big screen in Elvis on June 24th and on your HBO Max subscription on August 8th.

Of course, what I can't stop thinking about is the era-appropriate attire that's present in the photo. The Forrest Gump star's more traditional tuxedo was typical wedding wardrobe, even with the loose-fitting pants and extra-long coat. Though I'm sure all eyes were on Rita Wilson’s wedding gown. While she sported a traditional veil, the short dress was an '80s fashion staple, with its crystal-adorned top and ruffled-accentuated skirt. The level of love emanating from the tribute is great, but you can't help but get nostalgic for the clothes of the time as well.

The love story between these two stars is, ironically, like something out of a movie. After meeting each other on Tom Hanks’ '80s sitcom Bosom Buddies, the two actors reunited in the 1985 comedy Volunteers. They began dating during the shoot before tying the knot three years later. The union created a blended family with Hanks' kids from his first marriage and the couple's own children, including TV and film actor Colin Hanks and rapper, actor and candid YouTube personality Chet Hanks.

The married couple has continued to work within the same productions from time to time, most recently popping up in separate episodes of the Yellowstone prequel 1883. The attention to Outlander (which finally returned as part of the 2022 TV schedule) has led to troubling things like star Sam Heughan being bullied, with both he and Caitríona Balfe having to speak out about the persistent rumor that the Outlander co-stars are dating. But, it’s also led to lots of fun fan interactions and artistic tributes, so it’s been far from all bad. In a recent interview with Variety, star Sam Heughan was asked if any celebrities had slipped into his DMs to talk about their love of Outlander, and he answered:

I mean, I don’t think anyone who’s watched Heughan love, struggle, sacrifice, and fight as Jamie Fraser on Outlander can begrudge Wilson a DM or two. And, we know that Wilson adores Outlander like many of us do, because Heughan is correct that he met her on a talk show, where she spoke about her admiration of the historical romance. 

In April of 2016, right before Outlander Season 2 debuted, Wilson and Heughan appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and she adorably opened up about how much she (and her friends) love the drama:

Awwww! Did you see how giggly Wilson got when things accidentally took a slightly naughty turn? I love it! If anything, she may have sent everyone’s favorite Scottish warrior turned colonist a DM sometime after this meeting just to reiterate that she appreciates his work on the hit (which I’m sure includes Outlander’s sexiest romantic moments), and isn’t simply filled with joyful thirst for the actor.

Though, again, no one could blame Rita Wilson if she does have some thirsty feelings for Sam Heughan. Have you seen the man’s Instagram? Sure, there are posts like Outlander behind the scenes pictures and updates for people about his whisky and tequila brands, but it’s also filled with a number of shirtless workout photos, and incredible shots of Heughan looking like our brand new James Bond, so she is far from alone when it comes to fan response to the star. Thankfully, it sounds like the interaction between Sam Heughan and Rita Wilson was another positive fan moment for the Outlander actor. 

Tom Hanks is not only among the best actors of our time, he’s also a delightful fellow who has shown his charm time and time again. His latest great moment comes during one happy couple’s big wedding day. Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, were going through Downtown Pittsburgh at the same time as a wedding party was snapping photos, and an adorably unexpected moment happened.

Hanks is currently in Pennsylvania to shoot the dramedy A Man Called Otto. New bride Grace Gwaltney was in downtown Pittsburgh on her wedding day shooting photos with her wedding party and photographer Rachel Rowland, and they were about to hop into a limousine when Tom Hanks approached them and asked for a photo with her and her bridesmaids. In the last picture in a beautiful spread of images from the couple’s big day, Tom Hanks is seen surprising the bride with his presence, and her best friends look tickled to see the Toy Story and Cast Away actor too. I mean, imagine getting married, and then Tom Hanks randomly appears on the scene – the actor must have known that his presence would brighten their day even more. 

Pittsburgh outlet TribLIVE spoke to the wedding photographer Rachel Rowland, who admit she didn’t realize it was the actor until his voice tipped her off. Rowland shared that Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson was with him and also got some photos alongside the bridal party. Rowland also said this: 

A Man Called Otto will reportedly see Tom Hanks playing a grumpy retired man who strikes up an “unlikely friendship” with his rowdy new neighbors. It’s a remake of the 2015 Swedish film A Man Called Ove. The new movie has a release date for December 25, 2022. It is among the actor’s many upcoming projects, including his role in the Elvis biopic and as Gepetto in Disney’s live-action Pinocchio movie, all among 2022’s upcoming movies.

Yellowstone and its spinoffs have already been a pop culture tour de force in recent years, and 1883 probably didn't have to hire several of America’s most well-liked couples in order to cement its place within the fandom. That is exactly what’s happened, however, as the spinoff series signed on husband-and-wife duo Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Since Season 1 started premiering, it has also landed parts for America’s Sweethearts Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Now, the latter is sharing another sneak peek at her upcoming character. 

We’ve known for a while Rita Wilson had signed on to play Carolyn during an episode of 1883 this season. She's teased the character in a post before, but this week Wilson also shared a stunning black-and-white photo of her character, a storekeeper at Doan’s Crossing, also mentioning the time is very nearly here to catch her in the role. Take a look. 

Tom Hanks was a fun addition to 1883 and the Yellowstone universe in Episode 2. His cameo featured the actor with a great big beard befitting the time period and his character. He  popped in to play U.S Civil War General George Meade in the Paramount Plus drama. Now his wife will be following him down the same path, though her role will not be a cameo, but rather a guest-starring role in this weekend’s episode. 

Honestly, I’m all for these sneak peeks at guest stars on Yellowstone 1883, but they don’t tell us much about what to expect from Rita Wilson as the character. We do know some details about what’s coming, as Carolyn is expected to interact with Margaret (Faith Hill)  during the episode. It sounds like the two may get into their cups, with whiskey mentioned as well. 

When Rita Wilson’s role on the series was officially outed, the actress herself mentioned “The secret is out” and that she’d be “ joining my friends [Faith Hill]l and [Tim McGraw] on the streaming series. This tracks, as Tim McGraw also told CinemaBlend that the two couples have been pals for a really long time, so coming together on the show made all the sense in the world. He told us:

I’d assume Rita Wilson’s story is fairly similar in regards to how she got involved with the news series. But we’ll find out a whole lot more soon. New episodes of 1883 hit the streamer starting on Sundays at 3:01 a.m. ET – or around midnight PT, as Wilson herself notes. I personally just can't wait to see who else crops up on the 1883 cast list.

1883, Paramount’s spinoff to the hit show Yellowstone, nabbed a massive get early on in Season 1 when two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks made a surprise cameo as U.S Civil War General George Meade. Following the appearance, the actor’s wife, Rita Wilson, is reportedly set to also find herself a role in 1883 as well. 

The Jingle All The Way and Sleepless in Seattle actress and singer will join the Yellowstone universe in an upcoming episode, per Variety. According to the report, Rita Wilson will play a storekeeper named Carolyn in the prequel series. 

Wilson’s 1883 character will work at Doan’s Crossing and help Faith Hill’s Margaret relax with some whiskey punch in the episode. The Paramount+ series stars celebrity couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw as a previous generation of the Dutton family, who are making a great journey west through the Great Plains.   

Tom Hanks became involved in the Yellowstone spinoff thanks to a longtime friendship with Tim McGraw. The 1883 star shared that he and Faith Hill have been best friends with Hanks and Rita Wilson for 25 years. In the spirit of this, McGraw called up Hanks for a cameo in the second episode of the series and apparently Rita Wilson was up for a role as well. 

When recently speaking to CinemaBlend about the Tom Hanks cameo, Tim McGraw shared his special experience sharing an 1883 scene with the actor with these words: 

After Tom Hanks and Tim McGraw had that memorable scene in Episode 2, it’s only fitting that Faith Hill and Rita Wilson will have a special moment in an upcoming episode as Margaret and Carolyn. Now we’ll have to wonder if Meade and Carolyn are connected romantically in the Yellowstone universe since real-life couple McGraw and Hill play husband and wife on the series. 

Rita Wilson is no stranger to guest starring in popular television shows, between her stint in Girls throughout its run and The Good Wife. The 65-year-old actress has been a working actress since an early ‘70s guest appearance on The Brady Bunch. Wilson has juggled an acting career with being a singer/songwriter and the mother of her and Tom Hanks’ two kids Chet and Truman, and is stepmother to Hanks' other two kids, Colin and Elizabeth Hanks. 

It has not been announced what episode Rita Wilson will appear on. The fourth episode of 1883 will become available on Paramount+ on January 9, with new episodes coming out every Sunday. 

The Emmy Awards can often be quite the silly celebration of television, and the stops tend to get pulled out for the opening. This year's limited-audience ceremony opted not to go with an over-produced look back at this year's nominees — I would have bet money on the writers putting together a spoof of the Emmy-winning MCU series WandaVision-esque — and instead went with a totally unexpected tribute to late rapper Biz Markie that incorporated real-world rappers with TV shows, as well as Rita effing Wilson. It was quite the bizarre tribute, but also...kind of a fun one?

Ahead of anyone winning or losing any awards — or even Seth Rogen's snazzy look — the episode started off with a bang. Or rather, a banger, with a rousing rendition of Biz Markie's hit "Just a Friend," with the lyrics skewed to incorporate the world of TV. Cedric the Entertainer kicked things off, with NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J taking over the first verse. The dude knows more than a little bit about winning over crowds with his vocal skills, as he's a Grammy-winning rapper and an Emmy-nominated host, on top of being on one of CBS' longest-running dramas.

Following up on the legacy of LL Cool J is breakout TV star Lil Dicky, otherwise known as Dave (Who's Dave?) Burd, the titular lead of FXX's Dave, which wrapped its wilder-than-expected second season in August. Gotta love the shot he took at Ted Lasso's 20 nominations being just too many for one show. Which isn't true, of course, and it'd be surprising to Ted Lasso fans if the Emmys doesn't just change its official name next year to reflect the show's massive success. The 1st Annual Lassos. They're coming.

Back to the Emmys opening! The next celeb that came out was the always great Rita Wilson, who previously showed off her vocal chops in the midst of 2020's quarantine. Of course, it wasn't quite the same style as what we watched in this opening. But that just makes the above all the more fun and ridiculous to watch.

Not that the performers themselves were always the most fun people to watch. It's just as fun to watch everyone's reactions, as some in the crowd were just as shocked as viewers at home, but had to keep those reactions down the middle, with cameras essentially on everyone in that small room at all times. The musical number kicked off a night that often became more awkward and weird as the night went on, for better or worse, but usually worse.

It’s sometimes hard to believe that it’s been over a year since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of our world and essentially flipped our realities upside down. After all of the massive changes we’ve seen as a result of the pandemic, many are starting to feel optimistic as we seem to be on our way to turning a corner. While COVID was already a growing topic before the nationwide lockdown began in March 2020, but the gravity of the situation didn’t really seem to hit the public until Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were diagnosed with the virus. A year later, the two are doing better but still haven’t been vaccinated. Now, Wilson is explaining why this is the case.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks were originally diagnosed with COVID-19 while Hanks was filming Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic in Australia. From there, the two were admitted to a hospital and were later released to quarantine in their temporary residence. After a few weeks, the two began to recover and eventually returned to their home in the states.

Given the COVID ordeal the two experienced, many would likely assume that the two would have been vaccinated by now. But as Rita Wilson explained on The Today Show, there’s still an obstacle standing in their way:

Well, it sounds like Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks find themselves in a slightly awkward (and somewhat flattering) situation. It is still good to hear, though, that the famous couple is now on their way to receiving their vaccines.

Both Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been incredibly vocal about their COVID experiences since recovering. Hanks, when describing their illness, explains that the virus left him “wiped” and said that Wilson was actually hit by it even harder. With this, the actors have stressed the importance of keeping safe during these times. Hanks, in particular, shared some pretty blunt thoughts for those who choose not to wear masks.

But the two stars have been doing more than just talking during this time, they’ve also been taking action. Last year, Tom Hanks announced their intention to give plasma to assist in the effort to create vaccines and, sometime after confirming the plans, Hanks provided an update, complete with photos of donated plasma.

This past year hasn’t been easy for any of us, as it’s unfortunately come with a number of surprises and devastating losses. But even in the midst of all of this, so many people, whether they be first responders, celebrities, or everyday citizens, have come together in a major way to try to try to improve things for the better. And we can all be grateful for that, as we continue to do our own part to improve things for the better.

Over the past six months, the COVID-19 pandemic has vastly affected Hollywood. Productions have been delayed and release dates have been moved. Movie theaters are still figuring out how to make their lost money back with added safety protocols in place. A landmark moment for the industry that served as a wake-up call came back in March when Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson tested positive for the virus while the former filming Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.

Hanks and Wilson were the first celebrities to announce they’d been affected by COVID-19. It happened on the cusp of shutdowns and calls for people to wear masks in public. Production in Australia was quickly paused, and the couple quarantined for two weeks there before returning to quarantine in their Los Angeles home. Wilson has offered an update on her experience with the virus with these words:

Sounds like her experience battling COVID-19 gave the actress and singer a new perspective on her parent’s advice. Staying healthy is extremely important – it’s “everything” in fact. While speaking to ET, Wilson showed her gratefulness for getting over the virus, as the U.S. has experienced tens of thousands of deaths from its effects so far. Wilson is currently partnering up with the American Nurses Association's "Race to 200 Million" campaign to encourage people to get a flu shot during the coming season for the sickness. In her words:

Rita Wilson said her experience with COVID-19 was worse than the flu, citing fever, chills, body aches, headaches, vertigo and a loss of taste and smell. Tom Hanks exhibited milder symptoms – his temperature didn’t run as high and he still had his sense of taste. The couple has been taking an active approach to the COVID-19 situation since getting better, doing things like donating their plasma and encouraging the public to wear masks as the CDC recommends.

The actor is getting ready to get back to work on the Elvis movie next week, six months after its shutdown. Tom Hanks will be playing Colonel Tom Parker, the longtime manager to the King of Rock, who is being portrayed by Austin Butler. The movie is expected to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. After fighting their way through their shared infection, both Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks were officially minted as COVID-19 survivors, and they’ve been going above and beyond with their own contributions against the deadly virus. With plasma donations and their participation in a medical study currently underway, Wilson and Hanks are clearly passionate about taking the fight to the coronavirus. But that’s only the beginning, as both have spoken out about the simple practices the world needs to engage in to help stop the spread of COVID-19, which only hits harder with Rita Wilson’s continued remarks about proper mask habits:

Even with antibodies against COVID-19, Rita Wilson and her husband understand that this fact will diminish with time, and they could become infected and/or carriers of the virus yet again. So maintaining the strategic pillars of social distancing, hand-washing and mask-wearing is something that she is stressing for both those who haven’t had to deal with the ailment themselves, and those who are lucky to be survivors. In an age of disinformation and distrust, this is important news, from a source the public can count on not to steer them wrong.

With the sad news that Kelly Preston has passed away at the age of 57, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rita Wilson, and many more celebrities have posted tributes on their social media accounts.

Kelly Preston had quietly been undergoing treatment for breast cancer, a fight that lasted two years. She was best known for her roles in movies like Twins and Jerry Maguire, but had been in a number of projects since the early '80s. Twins co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger gave some kind words concerning Preston on social media:

In Twins, Kelly Preston played Marnie Mason alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Their two characters ended up in a romantic relationship in the movie.

Kelly Preston also appeared in Disney’s Old Dogs, alongside real-life husband John Travolta, Robin Williams and Rita Wilson. Kelly Preston played Vicki Greer, the ex-wife of John Travolta’s character, who reappears in his life with twins. Wilson also shared this heartfelt tribute to Kelly Preston:

Kelly Preston appeared in several movies with her husband, John Travolta, including The Expert, Battlefield Earth and, most recently, Gotti. Her last starring role was in the yet-to-be-released comedy movie Off the Rails, alongside co-star Judi Dench. Off the Rails is about four friends in their 50s who want to travel across Europe by train. It currently is in post-production.

Tom Hanks’ experience with COVID-19 has been well documented by this point. Both the actor and wife Rita Wilson were originally diagnosed with the virus while in Australia and were immediately forced to self-quarantine. While couple remained upbeat and posted amusing updates to social media, their battle was rough. Rita Wilson experienced harsh symptoms, while Hanks felt “wiped” most of the time.

Eventually, the two recovered and were able to return to their home here in the US, but they’re not quite done with the coronavirus. Tom Hanks recently revealed that he and Wilson were planning to give blood plasma in an attempt to help medical professionals develop a vaccine. Well now, it would appear Hanks has taken one of his first real steps in doing so.

Apparently, Tom Hanks (and presumably Rita Wilson) have filled out the necessary paperwork and are now able to donate plasma. This was evidenced by the fact that Hanks posted two photos on social media of his giving plasma:

You have to admit that Tom Hanks does make the process look simple, and it’s nice to see that he’s already proving to be a man of his word. He must’ve breezed through that paperwork quickly if he’s already giving plasma.

Fighting off COVID-19 has clearly become an important cause for Hanks and Wilson. Having gone through the experience personally, they know just how difficult it can be to deal with it. And following the death of his That Thing You Do collaborator Adam Schlesinger, one can could argue that Hanks has an added layer of personal motivation to speak out and do his part.

As mentioned, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson haven’t shied away from talking about their battle with the coronavirus after recovering from it. Recently, Hanks appeared on a special “At Home” edition of Saturday Night Live and gave a humorous and sentimental opening monologue about the ordeal.

The couple were some of the first high-profile celebrities to contract COVID-19 and, as such, they’re openness sparked a chain reaction that eventually led others to speak publicly about being diagnosed.

Idris Elba was diagnosed shortly after Hanks and Wilson were, and he gave Hanks a lot of credit for speaking out and helping to keep others informed. With this, Elba credits Hanks for inspiring him to talk about his own situation.

Admittedly, it seems we still have a ways to go before this pandemic has reached its end, but the actions of people like Tom Hanks are encouraging and bode well for the future. It’s true that he is a celebrity with plenty of influence, but that shouldn’t dissuade others from trying to do what they can to pitch in as well.

Chloroquine is a medication that has been used to treat and prevent malaria. President Donald Trump has been an advocate of the use of chloroquine to combat COVID-19. Use of the drug brought about fatal heart complications in some patients in Brazil, leading the small study to stall, per The New York Times. As Rita Wilson explained, she did not have a good experience with the drug herself.

As she detailed, Tom Hanks had milder symptoms. Her temperature soared and she lost her sense of taste. Hanks’ temperature wasn’t nearly as high and he still had taste. Following their recovery, the pair has decided to donate some of their blood to a study that is trying to make a vaccine since it is thought that once patients have recovered, they become immune.

While in quarantine, Rita Wilson also made headlines for showing off some serious bars for the ‘90s rap song “Hip Hop Hooray.” After the video went viral, she and the song’s artist, Naughty By Nature. have decided to collaborate on a remix to “Hip Hop Hooray” to benefit the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund which gives back to the hurting music community.

Now that Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks have returned to the United States after their ordeal with coronavirus, Wilson is definitely trying to keep herself busy. This week she signed on for two gigs: First singing the National Anthem for a Nascar event and secondly hosting a new CMT benefit for the MusiCares Covid-19 Relief Fund.

The gig with Nascar already went down and can be seen in full. In it, Rita Wilson sings the National Anthem for Nascar’s Iracing Pro Invitational Series, which is one of the ways sports have been filling time as we wait for this quarantine to pass. She donned a leather jacket and seems to be singing at home for the event.

In addition to this she’s already gotten busy with CMT’s CMT Giants Kenny Rogers: A Benefit For MusiCares. The upcoming benefit event will be hitting the schedule very soon on Wednesday, April 8 at 8 p.m. ET on CMT. The event will essentially be to celebrate the life of Kenny Rogers, who died at the age of 81 at the tail end of March. His family announced the news.

It also will serve to bring other people including Don Schlitz, Kim Carnes, Dolly Parton, Jason Isbell, Lionel Richie, Lady Antebellum, Gavin DeGraw, Rascal Flatts and Kenny Rogers' band and even crew. Like host Rita Wilson, all of the collaborators will be making special appearances virtually due to Covid-19. It's a hard thing. Typically when someone beloved dies people get together to celebrate and mourn that person's life. In this case, this is the closest thing to meeting that people who knew Rogers will be able to do and I really hope it does give fans and those who knew him comfort as well as being for a worthy cause.

If that's the case, I'm also hoping that we will soon get another bit of footage from the Hanks/Wilson quarantine, this time with Hanks performing his own rendition of a '90s rap song. There has been a lot of shock as reports have come out revealing that Idris Elba, Olga Kurylenko, and Kristofer Hivju have all tested positive for the virus at the center of the on-going pandemic. It's been upsetting and stressful to hear, but on the search for silver linings we now have one: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are no longer hospitalized, and are now quarantining themselves in their rented home in Australia.

It was last Thursday that Tom Hanks first posted on social media that both he and his wife had been diagnosed with the novel Coronavirus, but now The Wrap is reporting that they have left the hospital where they were kept over the weekend and are now in their own temporary residence in Australia. The couple is down there because Hanks was filming the Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis Presley biopic prior to becoming sick.

Tom Hanks posted his first update from quarantine on Friday, quoting one of his most famous lines from one of his most beloved movies while doing so, and has definitely been showing a brave face publicly during what surely must be a scary time. Yesterday Rita Wilson took to her own social media page to make jokes about Corona beer and share her quarantine playlist on Spotify, while Hanks shared a picture suggesting that he was enjoying a snack of Vegemite on toast (though as someone who has tried Vegemite, I'm not sure that's actually possible).

Not only do we not know exactly how long the pandemic is going to keep every day life shutdown, but we also don't know how the shakeups to the release schedule are going to change things in the aftermath (major releases like A Quiet Place: Part II and Mulan are going to be looking for new release windows, and it's unclear how they might impact projects currently holding on to their established dates). This in mind, we also don't know what's going to happen to Tom Hanks movies set to come out in the second half of 2020 – including BIOS on October 2 and News Of The World on Christmas Day.

Because Tom Hanks seems to know how to read a room perhaps better than any other person on earth, he quickly shared a personal update from both himself and Rita Wilson on social media. He offered up a straightforward explanation of what happened, confirmed that they would be quarantined until they were given the all clear, and offered some calming words and encouragement to fans.

In the days since, both he and Rita Wilson have used their Twitter and Instagram accounts to offer up some levity, even as growing anxiety and tension about the pandemic has spread across the globe. Rita Wilson has set an example for how to take the coronavirus in stride. First, she retweeted The Daily Show’s “this is not a drill” report on their diagnosis, thanking Trevor Noah for giving her a laugh. Then on March 13, she sent out a lighthearted tweet about her current predicament:

Rita Wilson also showed she’s trying to make the best of being cooped up by soliciting recommendations for a self quarantining-themed Spotify playlist. Nearly 2,000 fans responded, offering up song suggestions. She then shared the crowdsourced playlist -- dubbed Quarantunes by a clever fan -- with her followers.

Tom Hanks has taken a slightly more reflective but no less friendly approach to self-quarantining. On March 12, he shared a sweet selfie of himself and Rita Wilson to assure fans they were okay. Tom Hanks, who is currently down in Australia filming the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, shared on social media that both he and his wife, Rita Wilson, had been diagnosed with the disease. Fans have spent the hours since wondering about the actors' condition and health, and now we have a fresh update straight from quarantine – which happens to come packed with a reference to one of his greatest films:

It's been a distressing 24 hours as there have been consistent reports released about major events being cancelled, blockbuster release dates being shifted, and popular venues being closed, but at the very least we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are doing okay. You can't really understate the power of Forrest Gump, a movie that is so quotable and memorable even today, despite being released back in 1994. The tale of a simple man with an incredible life has stayed with people for a long time, having given birth to iconic catchphrases and even a subpar restaurant chain. You've probably watched the movie a few times by this point, but you may not have watched it more than Tom Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson. Apparently, she loves to re-watch one scene in particular, and let's just say it involves running.

Tom Hanks recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where the host brought up that Hanks's wife loves to watch a specific scene of Forrest Gump. Perhaps in honor of fellow guest Mo Farah, the scene in question has to do with running. However, what Rita Wilson really cares about is her husband's butt. Hanks' had been working out to be able to do the massive amount of running that was required in that film, and the result was gaining nice buttocks. Whenever that scene comes on, Wilson likes to play it back to that she can see that nice "Hanks ass."

All this talk of running led Graham Norton to request that Tom Hanks recreate his famous running speech from the scene. Hanks was happy to oblige, but he wanted to make it clear that he didn't actually remember the lines. He made sure to point out the lady holding the cue cards, because credit where credit is due. Hanks then easily leaped back into the classic Forrest drawl to deliver the quote. Hanks hasn't lost a step as the character even after all these years, and recited the lines perfectly.

The scene in question was when Forrest decided to leave his troubles behind him and just run. His whole life had been about running, and so he decided to just never stop. As he sprints out of his house, the camera catches Forrest's backside taking off down the road, which also happens to give you a solid view of that Hanks booty. Tom Everett Scott

Guy Patterson was our everyman, our focal point to the madness that was the 60's pop scene that reigns in That Thing You Do. With his trademark shades, his sick drum skills, and the wit and wisdom that helped the band last as long as it did, he truly was Spartacus. He is our biggest fan, and it's all thanks to the talents of Tom Everett Scott, a man who's been working quite regularly since career started on an episode of Law and Order back in 1993.

Of course, his huge breakout hit was That Thing You Do, which almost wasn't his big screen debut, thanks to his resemblance to Tom Hanks himself. Fortunately, co-star and Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson, convinced those in charge to take the leap, and Scott went on to drum his way into our hearts for years to come. After the music died down, Tom Everett Scott found himself in high visibility projects like Boiler Room, Van Wilder, and Parental Guidance.

Though in the years after That Thing You Do, Scott worked a lot in TV, most notably in roles on ER, Southland, and Sons Of Anarchy, as well as a return to Law and Order as New York Governor Donald Shalvoy. Liv Tyler

Guy wasn't the only person who helped keep The Wonders going, as his eventual wife, Faye Dolan, was also one of the many keys to success for the band. Though she was dating the super serious founder and lead singer / guitarist for the band, James "Jimmy" Mattingly, Faye always seemed like the right type of girl for Guy, even when he couldn't see it. And we have the talented Liv Tyler to thank for being the bedrock of the That Thing You Do cast, an opportunity that came after she'd established herself with her appearance alongside Alicia Silverstone in the video for Aerosmith's song "Crazy."

A few film roles into her career, Tyler had landed a double tap of musical comedies, as she had also played Corey Mason in the cult 90's classic Empire Records in the year previous to That Thing You Do's release. It was certainly enough to put her on the radar of Hollywood, especially in the case of Michael Bay, who would then cast Liv Tyler as the female lead in his 1998 blockbuster Armageddon.

It wasn't until 2001 that her biggest role would land on her doorstep, as Tyler was cast as Arwyn, the elven princess who saved Frodo from Ringwraiths and had fallen for the half human ranger Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Since then, Liv Tyler has been in everything from Marvel's 2008 reboot of The Incredible Hulk to HBO's depressingly effective drama The Leftovers.

Johnathon Schaech

If That Thing You Do has a villain, it almost has to be the snide, sneering artiste that lead the band, James "Jimmy" Mattingly. Obsessed with his art, and singing his own material, Jimmy was never cut out for pop stardom, though if you read the liner notes to the soundtrack, he did eventually have another hit with a band of his creation. Not only does he consistently sour his bandmate's fun, he also breaks girlfriend Faye's heart by the end of the film.

Johnathon Schaech, on the other hand, seems pretty cut out for the business of show, as he's been consistently working since he first appeared in the TV movie, The Webbers, in 1993. Previous to That Thing You Do, Schaech's claim to fame was in his role as Leon, the man Winona Ryder's protagonist would romance while mulling over her boyfriend's marriage proposal in How to Make an American Quilt. But once pop superstar-dom kicked in, there was no turning back.

Schaech would go on to not only continue acting in films that varied from the Jessica Lange / Gwyneth Paltrow thriller Hush to the direct to video sequel Road House 2, as well as the horror remakes Prom Night and Quarantine, but he also became a fixture on television, as well as a writer! In fact, one of Schaech's more prominent roles in recent days has been as DC Comics anti-hero Jonah Hex on The CW's Legends Of Tomorrow. Still, after all that time, we can't get his unique method of quitting out of our heads.

Steve Zahn

Lenny Haise values three things in this life: being famous, pretty girls, and cracking jokes at both the right and wrong times to do so. Playing lead guitar and also singing lead vocals, he had ample opportunity to indulge in all three during The Wonders' one hit roller-coaster ride.

No one else in the world could have brought Lenny to life the way that comedic actor Steve Zahn did, and it's partially in thanks to the time Zahn had spent honing his craft in films like Reality Bites and Crimson Tide in the years preceding That Thing You Do. Though comedic statements about Generation X and drama aboard a nuclear submarine may not seem like the likely grist for the mill that brought us Zahn's hysterical performance, they certainly did something to put him where he needed to be for Tom Hanks' purposes.

In the years after That Thing You Do, Steve Zahn cemented himself as a go-to character actor, a skill he continues to trade on to this day. Highlights from his career include his role as George Clooney's dopey sidekick Glenn in Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight, a part in the J.J. Abrams scripted Joy Ride, as well as the role of Frank Heffley - the father in the first three Diary of a Wimpy Kid films, and Tucker in Dallas Buyer's Club. He can next be seen in 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes.

Ethan Embry

In every band, there's an unsung backbone that almost always gets overlooked: the bass player. In the case of That Thing You Do, T.B. Player was our unnamed hero, who would go on to be a true hero, as he enlisted in the Marine Corps just before the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, he missed The Wonders' big break on TV because of it, but at that point the call to defend America has become his mission in life.

Ethan Embry, the man behind our low-key pop hero, had his first breakout role in the Ed O'Neill road comedy Dutch back in 1991, which is funny considering the two would reteam for ABC's Dragnet reboot in 2003. Much like Liv Tyler before him, Empire Records helped Embry maintain visibility in the Hollywood circuit, and more than likely helped him secure the role as the bass player who he thinks went by the name of "Tobias."

After serving under Tom Hanks' watchful direction, Embry would go on to score an even bigger hit in 1997, when he was cast as Preston, the head over heels protagonist who had a crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt's Amanda in Can't Hardly Wait. His career would go on to rack up other notable credits, such as parts in other films like Vegas Vacation and Timeline, as well as on TV shows like Brotherhood, The Walking Dead, and most recently the Netflix original Grace and Frankie.

Tom Hanks

Though simply named Mr. White, the man behind the colorful name is much more complicated, professionally and personally. Eventually promoted to President of Playtone Records, Mr. White was the manager behind The Wonders during their time as a member of the Playtone "Galaxy of Stars." He shepherd them through county fairs, recording sessions, and TV appearances, and all throughout he had each member of the band pegged to a tee. It's as if he'd written their story, and actively shaped it based off of his template.

Which is exactly what writer / director / co-star Tom Hanks did with That Thing You Do, a movie that came out of a 30 day writing spree inspired by his restless nature during the promotion of Forrest Gump. After almost two decades of acting in hits like Splash and Big, as well as taking part of prestige worthy films such as Philadelphia and Apollo 13, Hanks took the plunge and wrote this love letter to 60's Pop, while also directing it into existence.

Naturally, Tom Hanks continued acting after That Thing You Do, with roles in Saving Private Ryan, The DaVinci Code, and most recently Sully all keeping him active. As far as writing and directing are concerned though, Hanks has only one other entry on his hyphenated resume, the 2011 film Larry Crowne. Tom Hanks can next be seen as Robert Langdon in the latest Dan Brown adaptation, Inferno, arriving on October 28th.

Charlize Theron

While Guy and Faye always seemed like a natural item, one of the stumbling blocks that always held up the works was Guy's girlfriend, Tina Powers. A sort of vapid, disinterested woman, Tina never really bought into the whole project known as The Wonders, and before you could say "root canal," she ran off with her dentist - leaving Guy in the dust.

It's not the sort of role you'd give Charlize Theron lightly these days, but back when she was cast in this supporting role for That Thing You Do, Tom Hanks just knew she'd be an all-star. With two film credits to her name, Theron was a star that Hanks swore he'd always claim to have discovered, and with this film placing her on the track to greatness, he couldn't have been more right.

The year after That Thing You Do, Charlize Theron would star in the comedy Trial and Error, as well as the horror thriller The Devil's Advocate, with her high profile roles in films like The Cider House Rules and The Italian Job following in the years to come. But her super-stardom transcended into A-list home runs after her role as real life killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003's Monster earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Theron still mixes things up with her resume, as roles in Prometheus, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Huntsman: Winter's War, and she can be seen causing chaos next year as the villain in F. Gary Gray's Fast 8.

Giovanni Ribisi

If it wasn't for the fact that Chad broke his arm while hopping parking meters, he would have still been the drummer for The Wonders during their Mercyhurst Talent Show gig. Though, if he'd been the drummer that night, That Thing You Do wouldn't have become the hit it eventually was, as it was Guy Patterson's up-tempo drumming that saved the single from obscurity and landed the band its first gig. Still, Chad got to get in real cozy with Guy's family, and eventually worked at the family's appliance store, so he was pretty well taken care of during his recovery.

Giovanni Ribisi, on the other hand, didn't need to break an arm to land his next couple of jobs, as Tom Hanks must have put in a kind word to sell him into his next big project, Steven Spielberg's war epic Saving Private Ryan. While Ribisi did have a couple TV movies, as well as a healthy dose of guest spots and recurring characters on shows like Ellen and Friends under his belt, That Thing You Do was his first big Hollywood film. It may have been a minor role, but it was one that lead to only bigger and better things.

Recently, Giovanni Ribisi secured a role in the Amazon dramedy series Sneaky Pete, after scoring a decade plus of work in memorable roles in Boiler Room, Flight of the Phoenix, Lost In Translation, James Cameron's Avatar, and all three of Seth MacFarlane's feature films. We'd call that broken arm a lucky break, if we do say so ourselves.

Rita Wilson

As far as cocktail waitresses go, The Blue Spot Jazz Club is lucky to have someone as beautiful and helpful as Marguerite is. Able to light your cigarette, fill your drink, or introduce you to Del Paxton himself, she's always smiling and always on the lookout. Lucky for Guy Patterson, and the third act of That Thing You Do, she was on duty the night he wandered through the doors in search of some jazzy inspiration.

Tom Hanks is lucky too, considering he gets to spend his life with the lovely woman playing this goddess of the gin joint, Rita Wilson herself. With years in TV shows like The Brady Bunch and MASH, as well as film roles like Cheech & Chong's Next Movie, Wilson would cross paths with her future husband twice: on TV in the show Bosom Buddies, and in the film Volunteers. Their marriage took place in 1988, and Rita Wilson would continue to work alongside her husband here and there, with Sleepless In Seattle being one of the most memorable points in their shared filmography.

After making sure Guy got back to his hotel room a-ok, Rita Wilson would continue to act in projects like Jingle All The Way, Law and Order: SVU, and Girls, while also becoming a producer under the Playtone Productions label. In fact, Wilson produced one of the most successful independent films ever, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, as well as its sequel, which was released earlier this year.

Paul Feig

During an extremely short appearance on Los Angeles radio station KMPC, there's a familiar looking guy that has on a bright purple shirt, chatting up yet another spin of that chart-breaking hit That Thing You Do. While the band doesn't get a word in edgewise, we know that the film's really about their story. Though that DJ would go on to tell a tale or two himself.

For you 90's comedy geeks out there, yes that is Paul Feig playing the role of KMPC's disc jockey in That Thing You Do, though at this point in history you may have recognized Feig from roles in The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult or the underrated Disney hit Heavyweights, as Feig's acting career was in full swing when he secured this role. However, it was his calling as a writer/director that would light the candle under his resume and send him screaming into the history books.

Perhaps Paul Feig's greatest creation, Freaks & Geeks, would come only three years after his fictional disc jockey days, which ushered in the era of Feig as a writer / director / actor in both the realms of TV and Film. Arrested Development, The Office, and even Mad Men are just a couple of the shows that would fall into his capable directing hands, with the coup de grace being his directorial efforts on the film Bridesmaids. The rest, as they say, is history.

Bryan Cranston

The second American to fly into space, a distinguished soldier, and pioneering astronaut in his time, Lt. Colonel Virgil "Gus" Grissom is a real life figure that makes a cameo during That Thing You Do's big "Hollywood Television Showcase" sequence. Though you may not have noticed back in 1996, the actor playing Lt. Col. Grissom was none other than award winning fan favorite Bryan Cranston himself!

With copious experience in TV, with shows such as Airwolf, Baywatch, and Seinfeld, as well as roles in films like Amazon Women on the Moon and Fletch Lives, Cranston secured a short, but memorable role in That Thing You Do which tied into another project Tom Hanks was working on. While Bryan Cranston played Gus Grissom in the film we're discussing, Hanks must have seen something extremely impressive in him, as he was then cast as Buzz Aldrin in Tom Hanks' HBO mini-series about the American space program, From The Earth To The Moon.

Of course, Cranston's most memorable roles would come further down the line, as 2000 brought him a six year run as Hal, the belittled father figure on Malcolm in the Middle, and 2008 would see Bryan Cranston take on his most iconic role yet - teacher turned Walter White on AMC's Breaking Bad. Though Cranston has still continued to keep up appearances in the movie world, and even managed to reunite with Tom Hanks for his other writing / directing effort, 2011's Larry Crowne. Bryan Cranston can next be seen returning to another franchise that did him well early on, as he's playing Zordon in the new Power Rangers reboot.

Victor 'Boss Vic Koss' Kosslovich is not only the Three Rivers Mattress king, he's a hell of an emcee. At least, that's what he tends to think when he's on the stage. Off the stage he's got a bit of a temper, and isn't as cosy as one would think. Still, if you're looking to buy a mattress or introduce a Pop act in Pittsburgh, Boss Vic Koss is your man!

Playing the Boss himself is veteran character actor, and genuinely awesome raconteur, Kevin Pollak. A stand up comedian and actor of much renown by time That Thing You Do rolled around, Pollak was best known in the world of film for his role as Lt. Sam Weinberg in the film adaptation of Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men, as well as parts in both films in the Grumpy Old Men series, and Martin Scorsese's Casino.

In the two decades since That Thing You Do's road to cult success, we've seen Kevin Pollak crop up in supporting and leading roles in films like The Whole Nine Yards and Max Rose, as well as on TV shows like the CBS hit series Mom. Though if you're a child of the internet, you've probably heard him on his internet talk show / podcast, Kevin Pollak's Chat Show, which is available through the Earwolf network.

HBO’s Girls usually keeps a tight lid on its casting information, but today, Lena Dunham’s hit show has loosened that lid a bit and announced a few tidbits of casting news. Both Rita Wilson and Colin Quinn will be heading to the comedy, although it's hard to tell exactly what sort of role each will play.

TV Line first reported the news, squeezing out the detail that Wilson will play Marnie’s mom on the show. Wilson has most recently come off a role in The Good Wife, where she played an aggressive lawyer fighting cases against the Lockhart & Gardner firm. We don’t know exactly how Marnie’s mother will pan out, but if she’s anything like her daughter, she’ll be highly detail oriented and serious.

Quinn—who is probably best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, will also appear in the HBO program’s second season. There’s no news on what sort of character he will play, but the actor did confirm yesterday via Twitter that he was already shooting for the series.

We’ve still got a few months before the Girls Season 2 premiere airs, but at the very least we know the cast is shaping up nicely, with Donald Glover and Patrick Wilson also already cast for guest starring roles. TV Blend will keep you posted on any new casting announcements that waft our way before Girls returns to the air in January. I’m hoping someone will slip and inadvertently let a prime detail, because we know Dunham won’t be opening her mouth anytime soon. It’s impressive, really.

Life is filled with a lot of big, wonderful moments, but it’s the small joys that keep a person happy. Whether leaving a parking garage during the attendant’s five minute break or coming home to warm brownies, these simple pleasures are worth getting excited about. Don’t take it from me though. Take it from Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

The beloved Hollywood couple was attending the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks game on Saturday when they wound up on the kiss cam. Rita Wilson threw her hands up like she’d just found a hundred dollar bill, and her husband smiled and laid a big kiss on his wife before pointing to her like a giddy sixteen year old basking in the hotness of his date. You know what’s great about this video? They’re equally as pleased as every other couple. Apart from the following people’s shocked reactions that followed their kiss, there’s no change in mood whatsoever. It’s just a giant stadium filled with thousands of couples having fun and rooting to find twenty seconds of in-arena fame. I love it.

I can’t be alone in finding it amusingly fitting that Jeff Probst’ upcoming directing endeavor should be for a script penned by a Lost writer. And yet, from the sound of it, the film has nothing to do with islands. Two more have been added to the cast of Kiss Me, one of whom is also no stranger to television, while the other has appeared on the small screen recently, but is better known for her film work.

Written by Sarnoff and directed by Probst, Kiss Me is described as a coming-of-age drama that follows a teen named Zoe (Sarah Bolger), a girl who’s stuck in a back brace due to scoliosis, and who forms a relationship with a married man, whose kids she babysits. John Corbett (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Sex and the City) is set to play the married man. And according to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenna Fischer has been brought on board to play his wife, “whose kindly attitude toward Zoe changes when she discovers a relationship between the girl and her husband.”

Meanwhile, Rita Wilson will play the girl’s mother, “who parents with tough love, ultimately pushing the girl to seek affection elsewhere.” Steven Weber plays Zoe’s father.

I can’t help but draw a connection between Wilson and Corbett, as Wilson was among the producers of My Big Fat Greek Wedding through her husband’s production company Playtone. Her recent roles include a multiple episodes of The Good Wife. While I have no doubt that she can play a tough-love mom, my favorite performance of hers is from Sleepless in Seattle when she played Hanks’ kind and hilariously emotional sister. The scene when she describes the plot of An Affair to Remember is priceless.

Meanwhile, it’s great to see Fischer adding another film to her upcoming projects. After having a baby last fall, the actress took temporary leave from The Office, but if you’re caught up on the series through last night’s episode, you know that Pam is back from her own maternity leave, and it looks like Fischer is getting back to TV and movies.

It seems impossible that an icon on the level of the Hollywood sign could be subject to destruction or relocation, but for a time there was a danger that the land surrounding the sign would be sold to developers, leaving the Los Angeles landmark's future in jeopardy. But Hollywood is a town packed with millionaires who are also attached to their city's fame, and many of them came out in force to pony up enough cash to save the land-- including a $900,000 donation from Hugh Hefner.

Variety quoted Hefner with a pretty moving tribute to the landmark, which now sits on 140 acres owned by the Trust for Public Land:

Other individual donors included Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Norman Lear, along with organizations ranging from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to The Walt Disney Company Foundation. None of these peoople may be able to agree on anything normally, but it's charming that they banded together to save a symbol so important.
