When it comes to the various eras of Saturday Night Live, the ‘90s arguably stands as one of the most beloved decades for the long-running sketch comedy series. Among SNL’s ‘90s stars were David Spade and Rob Schneider, who both managed to make their marks while working at Studio 8H. Even as someone with a more casual knowledge of the Lorne Michaels-created show, I’ve long been aware of Schneider and Spade’s contributions to it. What I didn’t know until now, however, was that there was “tension” between the two comics.

David Spade was on SNL for six seasons from 1990 to 1996 and, in the decades since he’s been away from the show, he’s been open about aspects of the experience. (That includes that infamous joke he made at Eddie Murphy’s expense in ‘95.) During a recent interview with Esquire that was shared to YouTube, Spade covered a wide range of topics and was eventually asked about what his relationship with Rob Schneider was like early on. From there, the Joe Dirt star explained what was at the root of his and Schneider’s issues:

This rivalry between the two stars actually falls in line with what some series alums (including Spade himself) have said about the SNL experience. Spade admitted it could be hard for newbies to get themselves written into sketches. With that, some fresh cast members may find themselves competing for material. With that, I can honestly understand why Schneider and Spade will get competitive, and their desperation makes even more sense, considering they were on the show at the same time as stars like Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Chris Farley, who became some of SNL’s most impactful stars.

Amid his recent interview, Spade went on to suggest that he and Schneider (who was on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1994) have gained some perspective. The Rules of Engagement star further opened up about his take on that feud:

Both Spade and Schneider eventually found success beyond SNL, and they even worked together on 2010's Grown Ups alongside fellow series alums like Sandler and Rock. So what does the Schneider/Spade relationship look like today? Well, Spade has a positive take:

It’s great to hear there are no hard feelings at this point, and that’s truly a testament to the way in which people can change over time. Additionally, I just find it interesting to hear about the dynamics shared between members of the SNL cast, considering how unique a work environment it is. There have certainly been beefs between stars though, based on Spade’s comments, his tiff with Schneider doesn’t sound as bad as other behind-the-scenes spats.

You know, there are some movies that you rewatch as an adult, and you wonder, “Why the heck did I enjoy that when I was a child?” There are plenty that I could name right here alone.

From some of the silly Barbie movies I used to watch to ridiculous Scooby-Doo straight-to-DVD films to some comedy flicks that had no substance whatsoever, our tastes change as we grow older. And often, when we revisit things that made us happy as kids, we don’t feel the same way.

But what movie did I actually feel the same way about? Grown Ups. And I’m tired of people making fun of the film. I recently rewatched it just for fun – on a day where it felt like I had nothing to do and wished to revisit a movie that I absolutely loved as a kid, and now, I still don’t get why people don’t like it more. Here is my reasoning.

Yes, It’s Not Like Adam Sandler’s Classics

Now, am I going to sit here and tell you that Grown Ups is one of Adam Sandler’s best films? No, I am not, and I’m pretty sure if I did, I’d get whatever imaginary license for entertainment journalism I have taken away from me. I’m not that protective of this film.

It’s not a Sandler rom-com. It’s not Happy Gilmore. It’s not The Waterboy. It’s not The Wedding Singer – and it never will be. I think there is an inherent charm about a lot of Adam Sandler’s earlier films, even if they most certainly did not age super well with time. And nowadays, it’s challenging to pull something like that off with how the political climate has shifted over the last several decades.

While Grown Ups was released in the early 2010s, even then, the culture was far different from how it was when Sandler first began making movies, so of course, it’s not going to be the same.

Even so, there is still a lot to love about this movie.

But That Doesn’t Mean It’s Not Funny

I think my biggest issue is that a lot of people don’t find this movie that funny – or, at the very least, most highly ranked critics don’t. The 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes speaks for itself. And I think that’s a load of BS.

Look, I’m going to be honest with you – do I sometimes want a very clever comedy film where the jokes are highly thought out, and you sometimes need to rewatch the movie again to understand? Sure. Occasionally, I need a film like that, one that really tests my comprehension skills as a movie and TV journalist. Without those, I wouldn’t be able to advance as a writer.

But I also sometimes don’t want that. There are great comedy movies out there that define the definition of what comedy can be, but Grown Ups is the type of film where it’s not looking to do that – it’s looking to make you chuckle with the most simplest of humor, and at the end of the day, that’s all you need.

The Five Comedians Have Such Fun Chemistry

You can’t have a good comedy film if you don’t have chemistry, and the Grown Ups cast is the definition of chemistry, which is why it astounds me to see that Rotten Tomatoes score so low.

These five comedic actors – Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider – work so well off of each other and create moments in this film that genuinely have made me snort out my morning coffee even now as an adult. Granted, I am my father’s daughter – most things very easily amuse me, and I think that’s a great way to live life.

But I wouldn’t get to that point in this film if the comedians didn’t already have that inherent energy. And you want to know the best part? They’re all friends in real life, which is what makes the chemistry so good.

At a certain point, you’re not watching the characters on the screen – you’re watching Sandler and his buddies rip on each other, and you love that aspect of this comedy. It’s like you’re back in high school with your teenage cohorts, and you’re trying to do some ridiculous dare to prove yourself to the person you like. It’s reminiscent and makes you smile.

And The Kids Actually Work Well Together, Too

Something else that I didn’t realize as a kid but do now as an adult is that the kids in this film are actually perfect, too, comedic-wise. And to me, that’s one of the biggest compliments, and another reason it baffles me is that critics don’t at least enjoy this film. Heck, some of these child stars are acting today.

Do you know how hard it is to find an actually good comedic child actor who’s not cringy or trying to put too much energy into their role? I can’t tell you how many movies I have viewed where it’s nearly impossible because they have the worst child imaginable portraying a kid who makes me want to scream and not laugh because they are so stiff.

However, in Grown Ups, these kids are actually good. Like, really good. Their comedic timing is on point, and they have some hilarious one-liners that still make me snicker to this day. I mean, I still say, “I wanna get chocolate wasted!” now because I find that line hysterical. How many little girls can you get that will authentically say that with their whole chest and have it feel believable?

I mean, it makes sense in a way – these child actors have to keep up with Adam Sandler and his whole slew of buddies. They had to lock in tight to make sure they could keep up with them, and they did on a whole other level.

It’s The Kind Of Movie Where You Can Turn Your Brain Off, And That’s A Good Thing

My biggest gripe about people not liking this film, however, is that it’s okay to watch a comedy movie – or just a film in general – and turn your brain off.

Sure, there are so many notable films out there that display the brilliance of cinema. I just saw Sinners and fell in love with movies all over again because of how incredibly well-done that entire story and experience were. But sometimes, I don’t need a movie phenomenon such as that to make me enjoy the film as a whole.

Sometimes, I need a movie like Grown Ups, where I laugh at simple things, share a drink with a friend or a family member, and relax on the couch—no thoughts, just vibes.

And that’s okay. The film world, inherently, is filled to the absolute brim with lovers of cinema, where they feel the need to comment on every waking aspect of how a movie is shot, who is in it, and the quality of everything – from a single set all the way down to how a burger was framed in the lens of a camera. They care about their craft.

However, I feel that if we don’t take a second to have fun with these movies every once in a while and enjoy films like this one, where it is just there for fun, we risk losing parts of ourselves that we can’t get back. In fact, watching Grown Ups reminds me that there’s still a little piece of my childhood innocence that resides within my heart because I still laugh at the same jokes, and while to some that may feel immature, to me, that’s beautiful.

Most should watch Grown Ups, if not for the silly jokes, then for the fun that you experience watching five friends have fun with their families during the summer. It’s not Adam Sandler’s best, but it’s a fun film regardless – and that’s something I always value, and you should value as well, irrespective of what Rotten Tomatoes says.

Over two years ago, those watching the 94th Academy Awards witnessed Will Smith slap Chris Rock live on stage after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The star – who was awarded Best Actor that same evening – later apologized and received a 10-year ban from the Academy as punishment. In the immediate aftermath of “the slap,” various celebrities – some who were present at the event and some who were not – commented on the situation. It’s seemed that, more recently, the situation hasn’t been as widely discussed, though comedian Rob Schneider just dropped some thoughts. And he didn’t mince words, tearing into Smith's character and his actions at the show.

What Did Rob Schneider Say About Will Smith?

Rob Schneider has proven to be one of the more outspoken voices within the world of stand-up comedy. He recently appeared on an episode of The Kyle & Jackie O Show, where talk eventually turned to Will Smith and the Oscars incident from 2022. Schneider described the Men in Black star as a “liar,” a “fraud” and a “twat” among other things. And when co-host Jackie O interjected and discussed her positive experience with Smith, the Deuce Bigalow star doubled down on his point of view:

The stand-up comedy veteran went on to chastise the Academy for their handling of the particular night. While making his argument, he made mention of what he believes to be a double standard. You can check out the rest of his comments in the TikTok video below: 

During the full conversation, Rob Schneider also mentioned Chris Rock, calling him “legendary” and “the best comedian of our generation.” Schneider and Rock notably worked together on Saturday Night Live during the ‘90s and would go on to star alongside each other in 2010’s Grown Ups. Schneider isn’t the only comedian to have addressed the Oscars slap, as many of his peers have done the same since it happened.

How Have Other Comedy Veterans Responded To The Slap?

After the altercation, various comedians shared their takes on what went down during the telecast. One such performer was Wanda Sykes, who co-hosted that edition of the Oscars. Sykes said she was “traumatized” by the event and, while sharing her take, she expressed sadness for Chris Rock and wondered why Will Smith wasn’t escorted from the premises. Another star to weigh in was Jim Carrey, who was “sickened” not only by the act itself but by the fact that people applauded Smith when he accepted his Oscar. When Steve Harvey weighed in, he said the slap was a “punk” move and that he “lost a lot of respect for [Smith].”

Other notable comics were a bit gentler when providing their take on the matter. Marlon Wayans, who is a friend of both of the actors involved in the situation, revealed that he advised the King Richard star to consider therapy. Wayans also spoke to the “pressure” that the Hancock star has had to deal with due to his high celebrity status. Another shared friend of the Fresh Prince star and Head of State lead, Kevin Hart, also discussed the slap. He believed, at the time, that his buddy was truly “apologetic” and opined that people “make mistakes” and should have the chance to move forward.

As for Chris Rock himself, he’s since dropped jokes about the situation during multiple stand-up appearances. However, he explored the topic in depth during his 2023 Netflix special, Selective Outrage. During the show, he recalled getting slapped by “Shug Smith” and took aim at Jada Pinkett as well. Rock specifically called out the actress’ “entanglements” with singer August Alsina. 

These past couple of years have seen media pundits weigh in on the durability of Will Smith’s career moving forward. It would seem that the star has been able to ease his way back into a sense of normalcy and, just recently, he marked the release of box office hit Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which is adding to its cume. Still, as Smith sees success, it’s surely possible that others could, like Rob Schneider, continue to share honest thoughts on the slap.

What is it that makes a Saturday Night Live character worthy of becoming the star of their own recurring sketch? Is it the way they dress or style their hair, the general ridiculous nature of their given situation, or is it their manner of speaking? We would actually say that much credit goes to that last example of criteria, based on the many great SNL character catchphrases we have compiled below.

“Well, Isn't That Special?” - The Church Lady

The chameleonic Dana Carvey has portrayed many recurring characters, but perhaps his single funniest SNL sketch is “Church Chat,” in which he plays Enid “The Church Lady” Strict. The deeply religious TV host has returned to Studio 8H several times and the secret to her enduring success is her hilariously sarcastic delivery of her signature line with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, That's The Ticket" - Tommy Flanagan

The phrase, “That’s the ticket,” is not exactly unique to Jon Lovitz’s Tommy Flanagan — the president of Pathological Liars Anonymous (or so he claims). However, it became imbedded in the SNL character’s legacy by the way it accompanies his most amusing fibs.

"We Are Two Wild And Crazy Guys!” - The Festrunk Brothers

Legendary Not Ready For Primetime Player Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin — arguably the greatest SNL host of all time — make up the swinging Czechoslovakian duo called the Festrunk Brothers. Of course, most people might know them better as the “Two Wild and Crazy Guys” from their vigorous mantra.

"New York's Hottest Club Is..." - Stefon

“Weekend Update” hosts just want Stefon (Bill Hader as the wild character he and John Mulaney created) to talk about the best family-friendly activities in New York. Instead, he would start his spiel by announcing the city’s new popular after hours joint, and it would only get funnier from there.

"We're Not Worthy!" - Wayne And Garth

Wayne Campbell (“Wayne’s World” creator Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) have come into contact with several celebrities (both on their cable access program and in their classic SNL spin-off movies). But, rarely have they been able to keep their cool around them, resorting to dropping to their knees, bowing, and declaring their undeserving presence.

"... I Live In A Van Down By The River!" - Matt Foley

The definitive performance by, arguably, the definitive ‘90s-era SNL cast member, Chris Farley, is his gut-busting portrayal of Matt Foley. In addition to being one of the most iconic divorced TV characters, the ill-advised motivational speaker’s most recognizable trait is his unfavorable place of residence (“a van down by the river”), which he reminds people of any chance he gets.

"Oooh, It's A Lady!" - Leon "The Ladies Man" Phelps

The most iconic character played by Tim Meadows (one of SNL’s longest-running cast members) is Leon Phelps, who would receive calls from men and women alike during his live romantic advice program. However, he always made it clear that he especially enjoyed attention from the opposite gender, which is exactly why they called him “The Ladies Man.”

"Cheeburger, Cheeburger, Cheeburger" - Pete Dionisopoulos

When Don Novello created the beloved SNL sketch from Season 3, “The Olympia Restaurant,” he might not have realized that simply repeating the word “cheeseburger” would create such an impact. Yet, John Belushi’s distinct pronunciation of it as the cafe’s Greek manager, Pete Dionisopoulos, served up a decadent comedy feast. 

"I’m Good Enough, I’m Strong Enough And Doggone It, People Like Me" - Stuart Smalley

Easily one of the most wholesome SNL characters ever conceived is Stuart Smalley, played by longtime series veteran and former U.S. senator Al Franken. He would begin each episode of his talk show, Daily Affirmations, with this personal affirmation that, perhaps, we should all be starting our days with.

"I'm Verklempt" - Linda Richman (Coffee Talk)

For various reasons — be it her strained relationship with her daughter or Barbra Streisand’s latest Oscar “snub” — Linda Richman often found herself overcome with emotion as host of “Coffee Talk.” By referring to these episodes as her being “verklempt,” the catchphrase became one of Mike Myers’ funniest quotes and never failed to get the audience howling.

"... Makin' Copies!" - Richard Laymer

Office worker Richard Laymer (Rob Schneider) is better known as “the Richmeister,” in reference to his tendency give his colleagues similar-sounding nicknames. This was typically followed by Rich acknowledging they were “makin’ copies” with the machine that just happened to be near his desk, much to their chagrin.

"We Want To Pump You Up!" - Hans And Franz

Austrian fitness “experts” Hans (Dana Carvey) and Franz (Kevin Nealon) had a pretty apt slogan for their program, Pumping Up, stating that they “want to pump [clap] you up!” However, we would discover that they failed to earn the respect of their famous bodybuilder cousin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, when he appeared in one of the most jaw-dropping SNL cameos as himself.

"Party On..." - Wayne And Garth

It was always a party on Wayne’s World, as co-hosts Wayne and Garth often reminded  audiences with this endearing, celebratory greeting. Of course, this phrase is also associated with another famous duo from the same era: Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter’s titular dudes from the Bill and Ted movies.

"I’m Chevy Chase And You’re Not" - Chevy Chase (Weekend Update)

We can sum up Chevy Chase’s signature style of charming smugness and dry wit in just six words. It is with this same phrase that the future Community cast member began nearly every “Weekend Update” segment he hosted during his short, but memorable run on SNL in the 1970s.

"... But I Love Him" - Jodi Deitz (Bronx Beat)

The talk show Bronx Beat was, essentially, an excuse for New York housewives Betty Caruso (Amy Poehler) and Jodi Deitz (Maya Rudolph) to voice their boisterous, and sometimes condemning, opinions on various subjects — with Jodi’s husband being a frequent topic. However, her complaint over her spouse’s moronic tendencies was always accompanied with a tearful affirmation that he still made her happy.

"Give Me A Break" - Ed Grimley

It’s hard to believe that a legend like Martin Short was only on SNL for one season, especially with his impressive assortment of characters like Ed Grimley. The pop-culture obsessed, erratic man-child — borrowed from the actor’s SCTV days — had a few different catchphrases, but his delivery of and situational choices for using “Give me a break” made it a classic.

"It Just Goes To Show Ya, It's Always Somethin'. If It's Not One Thing, It's Another" - Roseanne Roseannadanna

One of the most iconic “Weekend Update” guest characters was Roseanne Roseannadanna, who ended each of her nauseating appearances declaring that, “It’s always somethin’.” The phrase would serve as the title for the late, great Gilda Radner’s memoir, in which she reveals she borrowed it from her own late father’s favorite expression. 

"Superstar!" - Mary Katherine Gallagher

While her intentions may have been hard to interpret at face value, Mary Katherine Gallagher’s commitment to becoming a “superstar” was made clear in the way she exclaimed the phrase with an irresistible gusto. As such, Superstar became the name of a 1999 movie that put Molly Shannon’s quirky Catholic school student in the cinematic spotlight.

"Would You Like To Touch My Monkey?” - Dieter (Sprockets)

West German talk show host Dieter (Mike Myers) is another one of those characters who had many iconic catchphrases at his disposal, with the most famous being “Would you like to touch my monkey?” While it initially sounds a bit suggestive, he is genuinely curious if the guests on his show, Sprockets, would be interested in petting his pet, Klaus.

"Oh No!" - Mr. Bill

Few SNL bits are more traumatic than the short films starring Mr. Bill. The meek, indefensible clay figure could never do anything to prevent the painful situations he found himself in, but to exclaim, “Oh no!” right before they occurred.

"Bring It On Down To ...-Ville!" - Dancing Mascot

Nearly every one of Five-Timers Club member Justin Timberlake’s SNL gigs see him dressed in a ridiculous outfit, performing spoofs of hit songs to promote a local business — such as Omeletteville or Wrappingville — and upstage the competition on the same sidewalk. The pop star and actor even referenced the recurring sketch and its signature quote during a “Weekend Update” appearance when he imagines a non-existent Thanksgiving episode in which we would have brought it on down “Turkeyville.”

"Talk Amongst Yourselves. I'll Give You A Topic..." - Linda Richman (Coffee Talk)

When in need of a moment to compose herself after becoming “verklempt,” Linda Richman always avoided leaving her Coffee Talk audience empty-handed by offering them a conversation piece to pass the time. Examples of her given discussion topics include “Rhode Island is neither a road, nor is it an island” and “Ralph Fiennes is spelled neither rafe nor fines” among many others.

"Buh-Bye" - Flight Attendants

One of the funniest David Spade quotes comes courtesy of a flight attendant who wastes no time letting passengers know he does not want to be there. The character and his iconic “Buh-bye” debuted in a Season 19 SNL sketch also starring Helen Hunt as his equally rude colleague.

"Oh. Well, That’s Different. Nevermind!" - Emily Litella

As the elderly Emily Litella, Gilda Radner appeared on “Weekend Update” numerous times to present an opposing viewpoint to an editorialized topic, only to be informed that her supposed hearing problems led her to dish on something entirely different from the intended subject. Some of the most classic examples include “violins on television” instead of “violence on television” or questioning why the Supreme Court made a decision on a “deaf penalty” when, in fact, it was a decision on the “death penalty."

"What're YOUUUU Doin' Herrre?" - Stuart (The Californians)

The key as to why a sketch as simple as “The Californians” has stood the test of time is Fred Armisen’s preposterously over-the-top West Coast accent when portraying Stuart, especially when asking why certain acquaintances are in his house. Apparently, as Bill Hader shared with Seth Meyers on Late Night, he and Kristen Wiig did not know Armisen would pronounced “What’re you doing here?” so cartoonishly, causing the sketch to not go quite as planned with their uncontrollable laughter.

"You Look Marvelous" - Fernando Lamas

The peak highlight of Billy Crystal’s brief SNL stint was his portrayal of Fernando Lamas as a talk show host who often gushed over how “mahvelous” his guests looked. The Argentinian actor’s son, Lorenzo Lamas, even said that his father actually loved the impression.

"It's Reno Time!" - Janet Reno

For as long as Janet Reno served the U.S. Attorney General, Will Ferrell played her for years as the misplaced host of a teen-centered musical program called “Janet Reno’s Dance Party.” On the final edition of the sketch, the real politician herself crashed through a brick wall to shout out her SNL doppelgängers catchphrase.

"... Is That Bad To Do Do Do...?" - Junice Merill

No character portrayed by Academy Award-nominated SNL star Kristen Wiig is really known for having any definitive catchphrases, but Junice Merill does have her own “catch-lyric.” When she and her sisters appear on The Lawrence Welk Show, she takes one moment of their performance to confess something grotesque and possibly illegal before asking if it is “bad” in song.

"Delta Delta Delta! Can I Help Ya, Help Ya, Help Ya?" - Delta Delta Delta Sorority Sisters

One of the youngest SNL cast members (being 23 at the time) is Melanie Hutsell, whose most famous character was a sorority pledge named Di. She and her fellow sisters (played by Siobhan Fallon and Beth Cahill) would answer the sorority house phone in this most hilariously upbeat way.

"I Got A Fever And The Only Prescription Is More Cowbell!" - Bruce Dickinson

One of the most iconic SNL sketches prominently featuring an A-list host is a faux clip of Blue Öyster Cult recording “Don’t Fear the Reaper” under the supervision of Christopher Walken as Bruce Dickinson. His likening of Gene Frenkle’s (Will Ferrell) cowbell as a cure for his metaphorical illness in this one-off sketch may not exactly count as a catchphrase, but is undeniably one of the most celebrated lines in the series’ history. In fact, Walken claims it “ruined” his life with how often people quote it at him.

"Don't Look At My Bum" - Simon

Mike Myers stars in a recurring sketch as a young British boy named Simon, who likes to show the audience his drawing from a bathtub. In many instances, as he would turn around to reach for another example of his artwork, the child felt compelled to remind his viewers not to stare at his “bum.”

"That's What Your Mother Said Last Night" - Sean Connery (Celebrity Jeopardy!)

For no discernible reason, Darrell Hammond’s Sean Connery was more interested in spending the entirety of his appearances in SNL’s best Celebrity Jeopardy! sketches taunting Will Ferrell’s Alex Trebek than winning the game. Most of his insults involved the host’s mother, whom he jokingly claimed to have a relationship with.

These SNL catchphrases prove that, sometimes, it is not what you say, but how you say it. These characters said it hilariously.

Bill Murray has been at the center of a number of significant stories over the past week. He made headlines after comedian Rob Schneider claimed that he “hated” the ‘90s SNL cast, particularly Chris Farley. Around the same time, Seth Green called out the 72-year-old actor for a situation that allegedly took place when he was a kid. And in addition to these criticisms and more, Murray also finds himself on the receiving end of a sexaul assault complaint. In regard to said grievance, a new report also claims that the star had to shell out some money. 

Back in April, it was reported that Being Mortal, Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut, had shut down production due to an investigation involving cast member Bill Murray. Specific details on the matter weren’t initially shared, but it was said that someone made a complaint against Murray for allegedly engaging in “inappropriate behavior.” Murray later stated that he had a “difference of opinion” with a female crew member.

A recent report from Puck now alleges that the Ghostbusters: Afterlife alum kissed and straddled the “much younger” female crew member. The news outlet purports that the woman was “horrified” by the alleged situation and “interpreted his actions as entirely sexual.” As a result, she reportedly filed the aforementioned complaint. It’s been claimed that the actor has now paid a $100,000 settlement to the unnamed crew member. 

Shortly after production on Being Mortal was shut down, Bill Murray addressed the misconduct claim during which he said, “I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way.” At the time, the star said that he and his colleague were “trying to make peace with each other” and that the ordeal as a whole had been “quite an education” for him.

Aside from Being Mortal, much has been said about the performer’s work on Saturday Night Live as of late. As mentioned, Rob Schneider said that he was not kind to the ‘90s cast but was allegedly most displeased with Chris Farley. Schneider claimed that this was due to the fact that Farley heavily emulated John Belushi, who was a friend of the Groundhog Day star. 

Seth Green, during an appearance on Good Mythical Morning, took things a step further and claimed that Bill Murray put him in a trash can when he was a child actor making a guest appearance on SNL for a Christmas sketch. According to Green, it began when he, a 9-year-old at the time, was sitting on the arm of a couch backstage, and Murray purportedly took issue with him sitting in “his seat.” Green then said that it was when he refused to move that Murray took action:

Another alleged story revolving around the veteran comedian came from Geena Davis, who worked with him on the film Quick Change. Davis purported to People that he “insisted” on using a massage device on her. In her memoir, the actress said that she “said no multiple times, but he wouldn't relent.” The Oscar winner then went on to say that “placed the thing on my back for a total of about two seconds.” 

At present, Bill Murray is slated to appear in the Marvel movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (a development that Paul Rudd has spoken about.) As for Being Mortal, production is still suspended, and Murray’s involvement with the project remains unconfirmed. It currently remains to be seen whether the actor’s reps will make a statement regarding the alleged settlement and the claims from Seth Green and co. 

Rob Schneider is not afraid to share his candid opinions on Saturday Night Live, and those he’s worked with and watched on the show. After explaining the moment he thought the show was “over” a few months ago, he is now talking about how he thinks Bill Murray “hated” the ‘90s SNL cast, especially Chris Farley. 

For some background, Murray starred in the early seasons of Saturday Night Live, from 1977 to 1980, along with comedians like Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi and Gilda Radner. Schneider came in from 1990 until 1994, and worked with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, and many others. According to THR, Murray made two appearances on SNL in the ‘90s and hosted the show in 1994. While Schneider was being interviewed on The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show he talked about his experience working with Murray, and it appears it wasn’t good. 

Schneider then went on to explain that one cast member Murray really hated was Chris Farley.  

What Schneider is referring to here is the comparison between Belushi and Farley. It’s widely known that the comedian known for Tommy Boy really looked up to the guy behind the Blues Brothers, and they both died of drug overdoses at the age of 33. The comedian theorized that since Murray was friends with Belushi, it was likely difficult to be around Farley, who was so similar. It’s important to note, Schneider said he only believes this about 50%, but he did double down on the fact that he thinks Muarry really hated the ‘90s cast.

He also said Murray really did not like Adam Sandler either. The comedian said, “the least of the hate was to me.” Schneider said that he “took pleasure” in that fact because Murray was his “hero.” When the interviewer asked how Schneider knew Murray hated them, he said there was an energy about him, and he could see the “naked rage.” He said he couldn’t put his finger on why he thought the Ghostbusters actor hated them, he said he just “wasn’t in the groove” with them. 

Along with these claims about Murray, Schneider explained he thought SNL was over after seeing a sketch where Kate McKinnon sang “Hallelujah” has Hillary Clinton. Following this many alums from the show spoke out against the claim; Al Franken noted that people have been saying the show was going to end since its first season, so what Schneider said was “silly.” Alec Baldwin, who played Donald Trump on SNL throughout most of his presidency, also responded to the ‘90s cast member’s claim with snarky words. 

SNL’s long history is full of many comedians, and I’d assume with each generation there are differences in how they work and what they think is funny. While Schneider has spoken out about the show, and those he worked with on it, Saturday Night Live has remained a staple of the Fall TV schedule and just started its 48th Season.

Earlier this week, Rob Schneider said he thinks SNL is "over," explaining the moment he thought it happened. He cited the sketch where Kate McKinnon is sitting at a piano singing “Hallelujah” as Hillary Clinton after the presidential candidate lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump. Alec Baldwin, who impersonated the former president on SNL throughout the last six years responded to those comments. 

McKinnon has spoken about the "Hallelujah" sketch before, noting it made her feel connected to the audience. The sketch in question has 12.9 million views on YouTube, so it's certainly made an impact on viewers. Along with his comments about McKinnon, Schneider commented on Baldwin’s impression, saying he had “nothing but a fuming, seething anger toward” his Trump. The 30 Rock actor then responded to those comments on his Instagram, saying: 

After Trump won the election in 2016, Baldwin’s impression became a mainstay on SNL throughout his years as president. As his term went on, Baldwin showed up a bit less, however, he said if he was asked to come back to play Trump he probably would.  The actor appeared again as Trump during the 2020 election cycle, the “First Debate Cold Open” featured Baldwin’s Trump and Jim Carrey as Joe Biden. 

Baldwin explained his thoughts about Schneider's opinions on SNL being over and what he thinks about a former cast member of the show saying such things. 

The actor then complimented Schneider's humor before continuing to speak about his opinions on political commentators and pundits. 

Alec Baldwin has not appeared on SNL since 2020. Now, one of the show’s new cast members James Austin Johnson has taken over the impression, and fans have had strong reactions to it. 

The newcomer will be in SNL’s upcoming 48th season along with Bowen Yang, Kenan Thompson and other fan favorites. However, many are leaving. At the end of Season 47, the departure of Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson was announced, along with other long-time cast members. Recently, it was also announced that  Melissa Villaseñor, Alex Moffat and Aristotle Athari are exiting and would no longer be on the show. 

The Fall TV schedule shows that there isn't a premiere date for the veteran sketch comedy series yet, but with all these exits and all this brouhaha, it should be interesting to see how the new season shakes out. 

Saturday Night Live has often featured political satire. For years now the NBC sketch comedy series has poked fun at the politicians of the time. Typically, happening at the top of the show, these sketches garner lots of attention and the impersonations of political figures often become viral moments. In a recent interview SNL alum Rob Schneider spoke about the moment he thought the show was “over" and his feelings relate to a political moment on the show.   

From Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump (and now James Austin Johnson’s Trump) to Jim Carey’s Joe Biden and Melissa McCarthy's Sean Spicer, there is someone impersonating relevant political figures of the moment. The most recent SNL cast member to become an alum, Kate McKinnon, has impersonated Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Dr. Anthony Fauci and Hillary Clinton, to name a few. This Clinton impression is what sparked Schneider's comments. 

What Schneider was getting at when speaking on The Glenn Beck Podcast was McKinnon’s Clinton impression, specifically the sketch aired as the cold open right after the 2016 election. 

This sketch of Kate McKinnon as Clinton, which has 12.9 million views on YouTube, is one that McKinnon said made her feel connected to the audience, but apparently, Schneider is not really a fan. In the video, McKinnon is sitting alone at the piano dressed as Clinton. She sings “Hallelujah” and at the end says “I’m not giving up and neither should you. And live from New York it’s Saturday night.” 

Schneider, who was on SNL from 1990-1994, has been voicing his opinions against how SNL portrays political figures for a while now. Back in 2018, he told the New York Daily News that he did not appreciate Alec Baldwin’s impression of Donald Trump by comparing Baldwin’s performance to SNL alum Dana Carvey’s impression of George H. W. Bush.  

In the interview, Rob Schneider also talked about how SNL and late-night talk shows are a “comedic indoctrination process.” He said they all sound the same and that there are no “independent voices” in late night anymore. 

SNL is scheduled to come back with its political satire, no matter what Rob Schneider thinks. While McKinnon won't be returning to the show, long-time cast members Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong and Colin Jost along with fan favorites Bown Yang and James Austin Johnson, will be back for the 48th season, which can be found in the 2022 fall TV schedule. 

There are some movies that I grew up watching and loving more and more each time I saw it. While Grown Ups wasn’t the best received Adam Sandler movie, it was one of my favorites for the sheer hilarity it offered, as well as the fun cast that it gathered to portray this funny group of friends. 

Speaking of the cast, with this movie being nearly twelve years old now (I know, I can’t believe it either), where exactly is the cast of Grown Ups now? From Adam Sandler to Salma Hayek, everyone has had their own projects and big films, while also returning to do movies and films together. Here is what the cast of Grown Ups is doing now.  

Adam Sandler (Lenny Feder)

Starting off with the main star of Grown Ups, we have Adam Sandler, who portrayed Lenny Feder. And unsurprisingly, Sandler has been up to his teeth in movies. 

For one, he was the main star of the Hotel Transylvania series, up until the 2022 movie, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. Besides his fun voice-acting skills, he’s appeared in several movies, most of which he also produced. This includes, but is not limited to Grown Ups 2, Pixels, The Ridiculousness 6, Hubie Halloween and more.  He’s also had two movie that he’s co-starred with Jennifer Aniston with, Just Go With It and Murder Mystery, which is receiving a sequel on Netflix soon. 

In addition to his numerous comedies, Adam Sandler starred in the 2019 crime thriller Uncut Gems from Josh and Benny Safdie. 

Sandler has also popped up in several TV shows, such as Kevin Can Wait, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and he guest starred on Jessie with his late Grown Ups on-screen son, Cameron Boyce.

Coming up, he has a number of movies lined up, including Murder Mystery 2,  Spaceman and Hustle.

Kevin James (Eric Lamonsoff)

Next up, we have Kevin James, who played Eric Lamansoff in Grown Ups. James has appeared in many movies, like Grown Ups 2, Zookeeper, Pixels, the Paul Blart: Mall Cop series, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween and more. James also received a starring role in the Hotel Transylvania series alongside Adam Sandler. 

On television, James has had many guest roles, but two of his biggest projects were his own sitcom, titled Kevin Can Wait, as well the comedy series, The Crew. Coming up, James is going to appear in Home Team, which is being produced by Adam Sandler. 

Chris Rock (Kurt McKenzie)

Another hilarious comedian, Chris Rock played Kurt McKenzie in Grown Ups, and has been quite active in the movie industry. He has appeared in a variety of genres, showcasing his acting skills. Since the family film he's been in Grown Ups 2, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, the Madagascar series, Top Five, the Eddie Murphy-led film, Dolemite Is My Name, the 2021 horror film, Spiral: The Book of Saw, and more. 

In television, he’s guest starred on many shows, as has many of his co-stars, but one of his most notable TV roles in recent years was playing Loy Cannon on the FX series, Fargo. Rock has also had a comedy special on Netflix, titled Chris Rock: Tamborine that you should check out. 

Coming up, he’s going to be appearing in three new projects, two with titles, Rustin and I Am Maurice, and one untitled David O. Russell project, although there hasn’t been any new news about that since January 2021. 

David Spade (Marcus Higgins)

Moving on, we have former SNL star David Spade, who played Marcus Higgins in Grown Ups. Since his appearance, Spade has been active in both movies and TV. Some of his biggest roles in recent years have been appearing in the Hotel Transylvania series, Grown Ups 2, The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler, Father of the Year and more. 

With television, Spade has had roles in many shows as a recurring character, including Fameless, Roadies, Rules of Engagement and more. Spade also hosted his own talk show called Lights Out with David Spade, as well as appeared several times as himself in many shows. He’s going to be in a new HBO series, but not much else is known about that just yet. 

Rob Schneider (Rob Hilliard)

Another former SNL star, Rob Schneider played Rob Hilliard in Grown Ups, and while he didn’t appear in the sequel like many of his other co-stars, he still continued to have a very successful career since the family film. With movies, he’s appeared in films such as The Outback, Wings, The Ridiculous 6, Norm of the North, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween and more. 

Schneider has also been active in television, appearing in many shows such as the sitcom series, Rob, in which he starred, Real Rob, another sitcom series in which he starred, and several guest roles. He also competed on The Masked Singer in 2021. Soon, he’s also going to be making an appearance in Home Team. I’m starting to see a trend here. 

Salma Hayek (Roxanne Chase-Feder)

I think out of all the on-screen love interests Adam Sandler has had in his movies, Salma Hayek from Grown Ups, who played Roxanne, is one of my favorites thanks to her amazing personality that she adds to the movie. Since her role in Grown Ups, Hayek has continued to have a very successful career. 

She’s had roles in movies like Grown Ups 2, Here Comes the Boom, Everly, The Hitman’s Bodyguard as well as its sequel in 2021, Like A Boss, and was a part of both the Eternals cast and the House of Gucci cast, in addition to other movies. Hayek has also had some fun with television as well, with two recurring guest-star roles on both Ugly Betty and 30 Rock. 

The actress doesn’t seem to have anything coming up just yet, but I can’t wait to see what else she does after her stellar year in 2021 with both Eternals and House of Gucci. 

Maria Bello (Sally Lamonsoff)

Moving on, we have Maria Bello, who portrayed Sally Lamansoff in Grown Ups, the wife of Kevin James’ character. Since her role in the family comedy, Bello has continued to have quite the career in both movies and TV. 

In film, she’s has big roles in films like Grown Ups 2, Beautiful Boy, Abduction, McFarland USA, Prisoners alongside the lead actor, Hugh Jackman, The 5th Wave, Max Steel, Every Day, Better Start Running, The Water Man and more. Television is where Bello has shined even more. She’s had several recurring roles in shows like Touch, Prime Suspect, and Goliath, but her biggest role so far was playing Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane in NCIS, a role she left in 2021. 

Maya Rudolph (Deanne McKenzie)

Next up, SNL alum Maya Rudolph played Deanne McKenzie, the wife of Chris Rock’s character, in Grown Ups. And since her appearance in the movie, Rudolph has had quite the career. Not long after Grown Ups did she star in the Bridesmaids cast, another comedy that blew up, and she only continued to grow afterwards. 

She’s appeared in many films, including Grown Ups 2, Big Hero 6, Wine Country, The Willoughbys, Life of the Party, the Angry Birds franchise, Hubie Halloween and more. She was also a part of the Luca cast, the Mitchells vs. the Machines cast, and the Licorice Pizza cast all in 2021 - talk about a packed year. 

Rudolph has also had success in television. She’s had recurring and main roles in shows such as Up All Night, Portlandia, The Awesomes, The Good Place, Forever and more, as well as being a part of the adult animated series, Big Mouth on Netflix and having her own baking show, called Baking It. Coming up, she will be in the new Disenchanted movie, as well the Big Mouth spinoff TV series, Human Resources. 

Joyce Van Patten (Gloria Noonan)

The next cast member to talk about is Joyce Van Patten, who played Gloria Noonan in Grown Ups. Since her role in the movie, Patten has appeared in films such as Angel’s Perch, God’s Pocket and more. She’s also guest starred in several television shows like The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire. 

Patten doesn’t have anything in the works right now, but hopefully it won’t be long before we see her on our TV or movie screens again. 

Colin Quinn (Dickie Bailey)

Next up, we have Dickie Bailey, who was played by Colin Quinn. The SNL alum has been active both in the acting world and in the writing world, having roles in both TV and film, as well as working behind the scenes. 

As an actor, Quinn has popped up in roles in movies like Grown Ups 2, Trainwreck, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween and others. He’s also been active in television, having recurring roles in shows like Girls, The Awesomes, Inside Amy Schumer, and more. 

Quinn has also been very active in comedy and writing. In 2015 and 2020, he wrote two biographies titled The Coloring Book: A Comedian Solves Race Relations in America and Overstated: A Coast-to-Coast Roast of the 50 States. He’s also had several comedy specials on Netflix and HBO, and has gone on tour for his stand-up.

Steve Buscemi (Wiley)

Steve Buscemi, while he wasn’t in the film for long, had an impactful part as Wiley in Grown Ups, and has continued to succeed in Hollywood, both on the big screen and the small screen.

As well as appearing in Grown Ups 2, Buscemi has appeared in many movies such as the Pixar movie, Monsters University, On the Road, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, the Hotel Transylvania series, The Ridiculous 6, The Boss Baby, The Death of Stalin, The Dead Don’t Die, The King of Staten Island and more. 

Buscemi has also had an active career in television. Besides appearing on several TV shows, like 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Buscemi has had leading roles in both Boardwalk Empire and Miracle Workers. He also hosted his own talk show called Park Bench with Steve Buscemi. Coming up, he’s going to be appearing in a new movie titled The Year Between. 

Tim Meadows (Malcolm)

Last but not least, we have another former SNL star, Tim Meadows, who played Malcolm in Grown Ups. Since his appearance in the movie, Meadows has appeared in both film and television. With movies, he had roles in Grown Ups 2, Trainwreck, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Hubie Halloween and a couple of other independent movies. 

In television, he had many recurring roles including The Colbert Report, Suburgatory, Bob’s Burgers, The Goldbergs, No Activity and more. He’s also had lead roles in shows such as Son of Zorn, Marry Me and Schooled (which was a spinoff of The Goldbergs). Coming up, he’s going to appear in a new film titled Saurus City as a voice actor, so keep an eye out for him. 

With so many talented actors, it’s no wonder they went on to succeed so well. I for one can’t wait for Home Team to come out as part of the 2022 movies so I can see a lot of them together again. Or watch any of their awesome movies or shows.

The Masked Singer Season 6 is shaping up to be one of the show's toughest competitions thus far. Every week, a new wildcard emerges, pushing a beloved contestant out of the competition. This week was a perfect example of this dynamic, as Jester’s introduction paved the way for Group B’s Hamster to be eliminated. Of course, fans will miss hearing the lovable character every week, but the real downside is that we won't be able to see him pester host Nick Cannon. Following his elimination, Hamster gave his reason for making Cannon playfully uncomfortable on stage.

Hamster was surprisingly eliminated in the sixth episode, following a beautiful rendition of Luis Miguel’s “Sabor a Mí.” The furry rodent was revealed to be actor and comedian Rob Schneider, which judge Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg correctly guessed. Being a lovable creature allowed Schneider to let out his inner rascal on The Masked Singer. He appeared to be a thorn in Nick Cannon’s side during his time on the show. The Hubie Halloween star said to TV Insider about playing into that role:

It was entertaining to see him make the host squirm, and this actually wasn't the first time Cannon has felt uncomfortable standing on the Masked Singer stage, either. It would seem the actor took full advantage of his cute and adorable persona to be totally mischievous. And of course, his comedic sensibilities also played into his decision to continue those funny (if not annoying) antics against the host. At least, Nick Cannon didn’t take it too hard, given he’s a comedian And to be honest, it's surprising more contestants haven’t taken the route that Rob Schneider did. They get so much screen time with Cannon – why not tease the presenter a bit?

With this most recent elimination, it seems as if contestants like Jester may emerge as the favorites. The stakes for Season 6 have never been higher, especially when you factor in the wildcards and new gameplay strategies. If anything, Hamster’s exit proves no one is safe this season.

Thankfully, at this point, viewers still have many contestants to cheer on like Skunk, the elusive Mallard and the classy Queen of Hearts. The unpredictable nature of the new season will likely continue next week when Group A battles it out for a spot in the Top 8 against another wildcard. So check out The Masked Singer when it airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Another contestant has been eliminated and unmasked on The Masked Singer's sixth season. It was the Hamster who sang his swan song during this week’s time-travel-themed episode, and he was revealed to be none other than Emmy-nominated comedian and actor, Rob Schneider. Ever since Schneider’s gig on Saturday Night Live, he’s remained close to comedians and actors Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and David Spade, not to mention Kevin James, so would any of them follow in their friend’s footsteps? Schneider recently gave his thoughts on the possibility.

Following his unmasking, Rob Schneider talked to EW about his time on the Fox singing competition. For some, it was easy to figure out who he was due to the clue packages referencing the comedian’s famous SNL friends. When asked if he thought any of his frequent co-stars would ever compete on The Masked Singer, Schneider admitted the one that would most likely do it:

It’s not surprising that Rob Schneider would think that Kevin James would sign on for The Masked Singer out of all of them. Just by the way James acts on TV, film, and in real life, he gives off that kind of energy that he would do anything and make it hilarious. I wouldn't be surprised if someone even made a Kevin James costume for a future season, even if he wasn't in it. 

Rob Schneider went on and name-dropped a couple of other SNL vets, saying why they probably wouldn't join in on the fun:

Rob Schneider is definitely not the first comedian to compete on The Masked Singer, and not even the first this season to be eliminated, as Larry the Cable Guy was revealed to have been Baby recently! Although it would be hilarious to see Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and David Spade on The Masked Singer, it seems as if we'd all be better off hoping for Kevin James down the line. Though maybe we'll see one or more of them joining Jenny McCarthy and the others as a guest judge.

The Masked Singer Season 6 delivered yet another shocker in its House Party episode, as The Baby was eliminated and revealed to be Larry the Cable Guy. As surprising as that was, I’m not sure it holds a candle to the surprising contestant currently posing as The Hamster, who I feel relatively sure is a well-known actor and comedian. 

It took a couple of weeks to nail this one down, but I feel fairly certain now that The Hamster is none other than actor and former Saturday Night Live cast member Rob Schneider. Here are some of the clear signs Schneider is the one underneath the mask, and why there’s little chance it’s anyone else.

Rob Schneider Does Many Projects With Former Saturday Night Live Cast Members

The Hamster’s first clue package stated he does a lot of projects with his friends, and if we look at Rob Schneider’s career, that’s true. Schneider has appeared in many movies that starred or featured former Saturday Night Live cast members such as David Spade, Chris Rock, and of course, Adam Sandler. Schneider and Sandler alone have appeared in over a dozen films together, so it’s safe to say he qualifies as somebody who does projects with his friends. 

Rob Schneider Has A Connection To Alcatraz Island

Hamster's first clue package featured a poster of Alcatraz Island, which prompted panelist Jenny McCarthy to shout out San Francisco, California, as the area where the former prison island is located. San Francisco is also where Rob Schneider was born. Not much more to this clue than that, but it helps build a case! He certainly wasn't incarcerated there, but I'd say the San Francisco area is a dead giveaway.

Rob Schneider Joined Saturday Night Live In His 20s

The Masked Singer’s second clue package revealed that Hamster lived in a huge city in his 20s and worked with his best pals. Rob Schneider was in his 20s when he joined the Saturday Night Live cast, and obviously, he’s remained friends with many of those people over the years. It seems like that’s more than enough evidence at this point, but there’s one more detail to mention that really seals the deal. 

Rob Schneider’s Daughter Is Singer Elle King, And They Occasionally Sing Together

The Masked Singer fans may know that Rob Schneider’s daughter is alt-rock singer Elle King, so they might’ve pegged Hamster when he held up that king’s scepter in the second clue package. What fans may not know is that Schneider is also a good singer, and there’s a video of him and King online in which they perform a cover of a Roy Orbison song. In Week 1, The Hamster crushed a Roy Orbison song. Coincidence? I think not. 

I didn’t have the hottest start with guessing The Masked Singer's Season 6 contestants, but I’m heating up, and I feel relatively sure about this pick. None of the clues match up to any celebrity better than Schneider, so I’m willing to bet the farm on him being the Hamster this season. The Masked Singer airs on Fox Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Believe it or not, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul actor Bob Odenkirk got his start as a writer on Saturday Night Live at the side of Conan O’Brien, Mike Myers, Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler. Odenkirk has admitted before that he doesn’t think he was cut out for the job before and hey, nowadays it’s no secret he’s more of an actor than comedy scribe. And apparently what came with the job was getting Justice League’s Jeremy Irons super angry.

A big part of one’s job as a writer on Saturday Night Live is to pen jokes that each week’s host will be telling. While on the Howard Stern Show, Bob Odenkirk reminisced on his time on the show, revealing a funny story about working with Jeremy Irons:

That’s not all. Bob Odenkirk told the radio show that he also recorded the interaction with Jeremy Irons yelling at them and he has shown quite a few friends over the years. It’s almost like an odd proud moment for the former SNL writer, to be yelled at by someone as talented and well-loved as Jeremy Irons.

Jeremy Irons hosted Saturday Night Live once in his illustrious 50-year career and it doesn’t sound like he was impressed with Bob Odenkirk or Rob Schneider. Back in 1991, Irons was up for Best Actor at the Oscars when he delivered his monologue. It’s unclear if Bob Odenkirk and Schneider were asked to change it, but here’s how it turned out:

Hey, people laughed didn’t they? The joke is pretty much just that Jeremy Irons really had an Oscar on his mind, and well… he did end up taking home his Best Actor Oscar for Reversal of Fortune just days after delivering that monologue. All that Oscar talk may have helped him somehow? They can’t all be winners, but I’d imagine if you took a job like that too seriously and agonized over the perfect sketch everytime, SNL wouldn’t be able to air every week.

Bob Odenkirk was in his 20s at the time of his Saturday Night Live run, and has described himself as kind of a “jerk,” especially to Lorne Michaels, who was giving him a major opportunity as a writer on the show. The Better Call Saul star remembers being that guy who would snicker and crack jokes in the back of the room while Michaels was conducting a meeting. Nowadays, he believes he was quite immature at the time.

It’s a funny story and imagining Jeremy Irons blowing up at a not-yet famous Bob Odenkirk is just wonderful. Along with his recurring Better Call Saul role, Odenkirk stars in the new action movie Nobody, which is currently racking up some numbers at the box office. Saturday Night Live will be hosted by Daniel Kaluuya this weekend.

Everyone has a preferred era of Saturday Night Live, which typically stems from whatever generation the viewer grew up in. For instance, if an SNL fan reached adolescence in the ‘90s, they probably have cherished memories of Adam Sandler, David Spade, or Mike Myers, to name a few, inventing some of the long-running sketch comedy series’ most iconic characters and moments.

Indeed, even after it had aired long enough to dangerously brush against saturation, the ‘90s proved to be kind to Saturday Night Live, and remains one of its more fondly remembered decades for sketches you immediately know by name. From “Schweddy Balls” to Saturday TV Funhouse’s “The Ambiguously Gay Duo,” it was truly a great time to be an SNL fan.

Unfortunately, some of our favorite ‘90s era cast members are no longer with us, such as Chris Farley, Jan Hooks, and Phil Hartman, but those who have survived are still leading career to make their fans, peers, and Lorne Michaels proud. This is what the following eleven ‘90s SNL veterans have been up to since their last Saturday night in Studio 8H.

Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler’s winning streak as a writer, actor, and producer since leaving SNL in 1995 is undeniable, despite some bumps (i.e. Pixels, for one). Sandman went from singing about holidays on “Weekend Update” to rapping about his pockets' contents on his Netflix special 100% Fresh, while creating iconic cinematic characters (Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, etc.) in between. Recently, Sandler received Oscar buzz (to no avail, unfortunately) for 2019 thriller Uncut Gems and has a couple of spooky features coming, including creepy Netflix comedy Hubie Halloween and a fourth installment of the animated Hotel Transylvania franchise, for which he is expected to reprise Count Dracula.

Molly Shannon

Following her sketch comedy debut on In Living Color, Molly Shannon became an SNL “superstar” from 1995 to 2001, especially as quirky Catholic school student Mary Katherine Gallagher, who earned her own 1999 movie. The comedian has since stolen scenes on many films and TV series (some that star fellow SNL vets), including Wet Hot American Summer and the Hotel Transylvania franchise, but has also taken a few dramatic turns, such as playing a terminally ill teenager’s mother in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and a co-worker of a mentally disturbed Alison Brie in 2019’s Horse Girl. Shannon will next be seen with SNL alum Vanessa Bayer for her upcoming TV pilot Big Deal.

David Spade

In addition to playing a Total Bastard Airlines steward or Dick Clark’s insufferable receptionist, David Spade’s 1990-1996 SNL stint is probably remembered best for infamous ribbing (to put it lightly) at former cast member Eddie Murphy. Otherwise, co-starring with Chris Farley in Tommy Boy, voicing Kuzco in The Emperor’s New Groove, and even playing the title character of Joe Dirt are just some roles that have kept him a relevant voice in comedy. In addition to leading top-rated Netflix rom-com The Wrong Missy in 2020, taking shots at pop culture is still Spade’s bread and butter, which he still does as host of Comedy Central’s nightly discussion program Lights Out.

Ana Gasteyer

Ana Gasteyer's Martha Stewart impersonation may be the best in the show's history, which is why she has reprised it on SNL outside her 1996-2002 run and, among other sketches, is key to her welcomed presence in the various, eclectic roles she has landed in TV and movies since, from playing a judge on The Good Wife to an alien abductee on TBS' People of Earth. The year 2019 saw Gasteyer disguised as a tree on The Masked Singer, reunite with many other SNL alumni in Netflix's Wine Country, and release a Christmas music album called Sugar & Booze. Her forthcoming projects include satirical rom-com Happiest Season and animated series Magical Girlfriend Friendship Squad.

Chris Rock

Despite lasting just three years, Chris Rock's satirical brilliance on SNL defined him as one of the most (literally) recognizable voices in comedy today, as further evident by his hit semi-autobiographical sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, voicing Marty the Zebra in the Madagascar series, his three feature-length directorial efforts thus far, and much more. However, it seems the stand-up icon is turning over a new leaf lately, playing a 1950s mafia leader in Fargo's fourth season, producing and starring in upcoming Saw reboot Spiral, and appearing in announced sports biopic I Am Maurice. Yet, one who is far from abandoning comedy is Rock, who will be seen in Robert Zemeckis' The Witches remake and was tapped to direct the pilot of Kenan Thompson's upcoming sitcom The Kenan Show.

Julia Sweeney

If you didn't realize Julia Sweeney played Pat on SNL, the 1990-1994 cast member would probably be happy to know that as the ambiguity of her most famous character's gender was the joke. You might more easily recognize the actress and author as a teacher from Stuart Little's orphanage, her 2019 appearance on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or from Sweeney's award-winning 1998 documentary God Said, "Ha!", chronicling her and her brother's struggles with cancer, which her Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino helped produce. Currently, Sweeney can be seen on fellow SNL lady Aidy Bryant's Hulu comedy Shrill and comedian Abby McEnany's Showtime series Work in Progress, which Sweeney also produces.

Mike Myers

Another great post-SNL success story is that of Mike Myers, who popularized "schwing" with "Wayne's World" and its two cinematic spin-offs years before popularizing "swing" with his Austin Powers trilogy, but the success of either is nothing compared to the four Shrek movies in which he voiced the titular ogre. The Vancouver native's film and TV appearances grew increasingly mysterious, from his unrecognizable cameo in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds to hosting the 2017 Gong Show revival under heavy makeup as Tommy Maitland. However, he looks to be returning to more familiar territory by playing multiple characters in a recently announced Netflix series and there has been talk about bringing back Dr. Evil for a spin-off movie.

Dana Carvey

We cannot mention "Wayne's World" without Garth, played by Dana Carvey, who has made a recent return SNL for no other reason than to bask in his flawless skills of impersonation and bring back his most famous characters, especially The Church Lady. Carvey's 1986-1993 run might be the peak of his career, however, considering his following efforts include variety program The Dana Carvey Show, whose abrupt failure was the subject of a 2017 documentary, or the 2002 Razzie-nominee The Master of Disguise. Still, nowadays, every brief moment the comedian is back into the mainstream, such as for his 2016 Netflix stand-up special or voicing a dog in The Secret Life of Pets movies, it is always met with celebration.

Cheri Oteri

If you don't remember Cheri Oteri by name, you might as one-half of an enthusiastic cheerleading duo with Will Ferrell or for her spot-on Barbara Walters impression during her 1995-2000 SNL. Additionally, you might recognize her as Gail Hailstorm in Scary Movie, the voice of Sleeping Beauty in Shrek the Third, or from her 2016 Scream Queens appearance. Among her forthcoming roles from in front of the camera or within the recording studio, Oteri is part of a voice cast including Katherine McNamara and Steve Gutenberg for The Adventures of Bunny Bravo and will share the screen with Jeremy Piven and Taryn Manning in the indie comedy Crabs in a Bucket.

Norm MacDonald

An incomparably dry, shamelessly blunt delivery made Norm MacDonald one of the most brilliantly savage "Weekend Update" anchors in SNL's history. The celebrated comedian got his own self-titled sitcom a year after his firing from the sketch comedy, but it would be the first of several short-lived attempts at his own series, including 2011's non-scripted Sports Show on Comedy Central, which would later pave the way for his popular interview podcast Norm MacDonald Live which was picked up after four years as Netflix series Norm MacDonald Has a Show in 2018, but only lasted one season. His most recent successes have been in voice work, such as a recurring role as a gelatinous alien on The Orville and a starring role as a talking pigeon on Adult Swim's Mike Tyson Mysteries.

Rob Schneider

Norm MacDonald has the struggle to lead a successful TV show in common with fellow '90s-era SNL veteran Rob Schneider, who showed much promise with his impressive variety of characters, most famously the nickname-spewing office employee Richard Laymer. The father of rock star Elle King also proved to be an effective comic relief in 1993's futuristic Sylvester Stallone thriller Demolition Man, but as a leading man, his most notable roles include a desperate male prostitute, a half-man, half-animal, a thief who switches bodies with Rachel McAdams, and himself in two self-titled, short-lived sitcoms. However, it is always a treat to see him show-up for his obligatory cameo in just about all of his buddy Adam Sandler's movies.

Saturday Night Live vet Rob Schneider was part of what is widely considered one of the sketch series' top-tier ensembles, as he took the stage alongside Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Chris Rock and many more. As such, he can look at the current SNL set-up from a pretty specific viewpoint. Which he has, and he's got some sharp thoughts about where the show has gone, saying it's not as fun as it was, thanks in part to Alec Baldwin. In Schneider's words:

One of the most iconic Saturday Night Live impressions of all time is Dana Carvey's George H.W. Bush, made all the better because he also portrayed billionaire and then-candidate H. Ross Perot. And while those impressions didn't exactly glorify the men being represented, Carvey always aimed for a simpleton approach with Bush, without ever oozing vitriol and insults. That method is apparently the one that Rob Schneider prefers SNL to use when it plays party politics.

For anyone who has kept an eye on Saturday Night Live since Donald Trump's presidential campaign kicked off in 2016, NBC's long-running sketch comedy has obviously been far more subjective than objective when it comes to the current D.C. administration. Darrell Hammond's Trump impersonation was a more buffoonish and stereotypical SNL take, but because Alec Baldwin took over the role as Trump stances on various issues got increasingly more controversial and divisive, his performances started off more scathing and one-sided, which lost any semblance of the fun that Rob Schneider looked for in those kinds of sketches.

Speaking with the New York Daily News, Rob Schneider did say that Saturday Night Live is relatively the same as its former iterations in some ways, but that by "showing their hand" in politically targeting one side over the other, that's where the divide happens. And while he may have opinions on the myriad other political impressions SNL has offered up, such as Melissa McCarthy's Sean Spicer or Kate McKinnon's Kellyanne Conway, Schneider seemingly puts the bulk of the blame on Alec Baldwin-as-Trump's "hard to watch" shoulders.

Rob Schneider, who considers himself an Independent voter now, doesn't comment on candidates he sides with politically, but the comedian definitely has something in common with Donald Trump when it comes to not liking Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live. That, on top of both men having credits in the 1992 sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

While it's extremely rare to see a single actor take the blame for all of the problems of a production, there are certainly performers who make for great indicators of crap. Whether it's about money or alternative tastes, there are some names who have made careers out of starring in an endless parade of bad movies, and seeing their name on a poster is considered a warning sign. Just off the top of your head you can probably name a few of these individuals, but statistics show that there is one man who can be crowned king in this department: Mr. Rob Schneider.

Using numbers from MetaCritic, Vox has crunched the numbers to determine the actors and actresses who consistently appear in both bad and good films. When it comes to the actors in bad films, it's a list that is filled with names that very clearly belong - but at the top is Rob Schneider, with his average movie receiving a score of only 3o out of a possible 100. According to MetaCritic's numbers, 31 percent of his films have gotten a mixed reaction from critics, while a whopping 69 percent have received negative reactions. To save you from picking up a calculator, that leaves exactly zero percent for the films that have earned positive marks - a.k.a. he's never made one.

Rob Schneider's average score per movie is a full six points lower than the other names on the Top 5 Actors Who Appear In The Worst Films - but it's still company you'd expect. In fact, Schneider has actually had many occasions to collaborate with both Number Two (Adam Sandler) and Number Four (Kevin James). The other two rankers are Ashton Kutcher (Number Three) and Taylor Lautner (Number Five). You can see the full list of 15 names in infographic form on the Vox page.

To demonstrate just how bad Rob Schneider's numbers are in this department, you could double his average score and still not match any of the performers on the list of Actors Who Appear In The Best Films. But that's what happens when the movie that you are best known for in your career is Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo. To date, his lowest rated feature on MetaCritic is the western comedy The Ridiculous Six (with an 18), and the highest is 2008's You Don't Mess With The Zohan (with a 54).

Could Rob Schneider turn his career around at this point? Nothing is impossible, but it certainly doesn't seem plausible. He seems completely content just regularly appearing in Adam Sandler films that get totally beaten down by critics - including the recently released Sandy Wexler. But if that's what makes him happy, and the negative reviews don't get him down, I guess there's no reason for him to change.

When we started looking into Adam Sandler's next project, Sandy Wexler, we could't help but be optimistic about the film's chances of actually being good. Considering the film is a Sandler film set in the 1990's, and Jennifer Hudson is cast as the romantic lead, the odds seem to be in Happy Madison's favor. Now we've gotten some new information that may, or may not, keep the party going in your eyes: a good number of the Sandler / Happy Madison crew is coming back for Sandy Wexler.

More specifically Kevin James, Terry Crews, Rob Schneider, Colin Quinn and Nick Swardson are all slated to have roles in Sandy Wexler, according to a new report in The Hollywood Reporter. No details have been given about the roles the men will be playing, just that they will be returning alongside the two new cast members that were announced, Arsenio Hall and Lamorne Morris. More than likely, these gentlemen will be playing the roles of clients to the titular talent agent, played by Sandler himself, who finds himself falling for Jennifer Hudson's character after he's discovered her.

This news comes on the heels of Adam Sandler's last film, The Do-Over, apparently ranking in as a Top 10 pick on Netflix in several countries, on top of being the most watched film on the streaming service. So despite some thinking that Sandler's shift to Netflix was a downward move, its a decision that only seems to have put the comedic actor in a closer position to his target audience. So, with more Sandler fans watching new Sandler films, it's not a surprise that actors known to work in the Happy Madison camp keep coming back, especially now.

With actors like Kevin James, Terry Crews, Rob Schneider, Colin Quinn and Nick Swardson all returning for Sandy Wexler, those who are hoping for a change in pace when it comes to Adam Sandler films had better be wary. The casting of several key Sandler collaborators is a good sign that the business as usual model the previous two Netflix films have taken is still very much in effect. At this point, all we're waiting for is the announcement that Steve Buscemi and David Spade are both coming on board to complete the formation.

This isn't to say that Sandy Wexler is safe to be written off as "yet another Adam Sandler" film just yet. Instead, we'd like to suggest that the film may not be the Adam Sandler film that changes the world's view on the popular comedian, while at the very least it sounds like a movie that wouldn't be a complete waste of time if watched on Netflix. We don't have a release date, or a production start date, for the film, but as soon as that changes, we'll let you know.

Some characters get all of the coolest lines. James Bond gets to introduce himself by last name first, Darth Vader gets to (spoiler alert) proclaim that he is in fact Luke Skywalker’s father, and even Don Vito Corleone gets to explain how he will make someone an offer they won’t be able to refuse. These are lines that can only be uttered by those particular characters.

On the flip side, there are other lines: lines that just ooze badass, but basically anybody can say them. One of those lines is, "I should have killed you when I had the chance." Check out the compilation video below to see just how many times that particular phrase has been spoken in movies over the years.

Across myriad genres and an insane amount of movies, the supercut showcases iconic film characters – hero and villain alike – claiming that they should have killed someone when they had the chance. It’s the sort of line that sounds great in a sweeping, epic movie, but compiled together one also realizes how much movies have long relied on familiar tropes to get certain points across. Sometimes it’s employed for comedic effect, while at other times it’s used to sell a major dramatic moment; either way it’s a trope we have all come to know and love.

You probably never realized how much that particular phrase, or at least some variation of it, gets uttered at the movies. However, hearing them all at once makes it clear just how many films have employed that particular convention. The video also draws attention to the heightened drama that exists in the world of film. Be honest, you don’t actually think people talk like this in the real world, do you? 

It can also be said that the same phrasing has been used for a significantly more pleasurable experience. Rob Schneider's less than successful comedy The Hot Chick saw him uttering the phrase "I should have made love to you when I had the chance" to Matthew Lawrence.

Despite how awesome all of these variations of the same phrase are, it all reeks of melodrama and, at times, lazy screenwriting. In some cases it absolutely works – I have a particular fondness for Ian McKellan’s Magneto screaming the phrase – while other times the delivery of the line can fall a bit flat.

If you haven’t checked the above video out for yourself yet, be sure to do so. It highlights the sort of conventions every film buff has seen a million times in theaters, but seldom thinks about. As long as there is violence in movies, there will always be people ruing the fact that they didn’t kill someone, get killed, or get killed by someone, when the perfect opportunity had presented itself.

Other than a few guest appearances on shows like Hot in Cleveland and Inside Amy Schumer, Rob Schneider has not been a major part of the TV landscape since his series Rob was cancelled back in 2012. Now, however, the former Saturday Night Live actor is writing, directing, starring in and paying for a brand new sitcom. This time around, he’s calling the show Real Rob.

The new series will follow Schneider as an entertainer and family man and sounds pretty similar to his own life. In Real Rob, he’ll be the father of a toddler and the husband of a Mexican woman who also happens to be a television producer. Schneider’s real-life wife, Patricia Azarcoya, co-wrote the eight-episode series. She herself is a younger woman who produces TV programs as a career.

But Real Rob doesn’t simply have similarities to Schneider’s personal life. It’s actually pretty similar to Rob, a sitcom that ran on CBS back in 2012. That show followed Rob Schneider as a dude who elopes with a Mexican-American woman, only to return home and face her displeased parents. Cheech Marin co-starred in the series as the father of the bride, but despite the talent of the two funny men, the show was not all that funny. Unsurprisingly, it was cancelled quickly by the eye network, as well.

Despite this, Schneider clearly still believes in the premise. In fact, he’s going so far as to finance Real Rob, which will be shopped to international buyers at the MipTV conference in Cannes, according to Variety. There’s a phrase out there about insanity being the equivalent of doing things the same way and expecting different results, but Schneider has already gone out of the way to finance the new show, so now the only thing that is left to do is sell the project. Admittedly, Real Rob is missing the laugh track and the joke-joke-joke format that are the hallmarks of CBS sitcoms. And—bonus!—it also features Spanish subtitles.

Schneider is also shooting for an international audience, so potentially there will be a bigger fanbase for the comedian elsewhere.

In the end, a self-financed TV program is a gamble, but one the actor felt was worth taking. Although Schneider has popped up in plenty of Adam Sandler films over the years and is probably most known for starring in the Deuce Bigalow movies, over the last several years his biggest project has most certainly been Rob. If he thinks he can make a similar sitcom work for a different audience, I’d argue that’s better than doing voice work for the likes of Wings: Sky Force Heroes and Jungle Shuffle. If Real Rob does get picked up, Season 1 even features a few famous guest stars, including George Lopez, David Spade and Norm Macdonald.

Rob Schneider is a stapler. Wait. Not really. Rob Schneider is a carrot! Hold on... Sorry, I just can't seem to get the South Park Schneider jokes out of my mind. In all seriousness, Rob Schneider may soon have much more to do than be the perennial Adam Sandler cameo-er, as he's probably getting a new TV show.

I say probably because CBS, according to Deadline, has put in an order for a pilot redo as well as an unspecified number of additional scripts. Deadline also notes that the "multi-camera comedy, which Schneider co-wrote with Lew Morton based on the actor's real-life experience, stars Schneider as a confirmed bachelor who has just married into a tight-knit Mexican-American family."

The pilot apparently tested rather well and CBS is sold on the concept but they wanted a redo to 'tweak' a few things. The redo and script order is pretty positive information as this isn't a new practice for the network whose hit comedy, The Big Bang Theory, had to undergo the same process with great results.

Look for the Rob Schneider series to air sometime this winter... that is, if all goes well for the stapler and his new pilot.

If you’ve seen the domestic trailer for Grown Ups you may have thought it starred Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Chris Rock as high school friends reuniting as adults. But apparently international audiences aren’t interested in that. All they want is Salma Hayek.

The first international trailer for Grown Ups has arrived and apparently this is a Salma Hayek vehicle. She gets more screen time in the trailer than any of the film’s other actors, in fact they seem to be trying to sell this thing as some sort of girl-power movie. In fact, Spade has been completely eliminated from the yearbook photos at the end in order to make room for more Hayek. It’s a bizarre piece of marketing, there’s no way this is representative of the actual movie.

Putting Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider and Kevin James in the same movie may seem like a good idea, but you know what would be even better? Kick Kevin James out of the equation and fill his slot with some other 90s era SNL alum and make this a full on reunion. The truth is that Kevin James is just a Chris Farley fill in here. He’s standing in Chris’s spot and, were Farley still alive to fill it himself, I think this trailer might actually be funny instead of what it is: Kevin James falling down a mountain in an unfunny manner. Chris Farley, now he knew how to fall down a mountain.

Still, here’s the trailer for Grown Ups, a painful reminder of what the world lost. Imagine the movie that could have been, with Chris Farley still alive and maybe Phil Hartman too. Hartman could show up as some sort of wise but creepy camp councilor. Good times. Instead here’s this, the Couples Retreat of Bromance. Watch the teaser trailer for Grown Ups below.
