Upload has been one of the few streaming shows that I look forward to every time a new season drops. Like many others crafted during COVID years, it has an inconsistent release schedule. Season 1 was released in 2020, with Seasons 2 and 3 debuting respectively in 2022 and 2023. Season 4, the final season, arrived at last amidst the 2025 TV schedule. Because there have been so many season gaps, I decided to rewatch the first three seasons before beginning and finishing the final season.

Upload is a show that immediately charmed me. Therefore, I have not been looking forward to the series ending. But, I know that sometimes it’s better to end a show while it’s still good than to let it overstay its expiration date and end on a low note. While watching the Upload pilot, I appreciated the show’s smart writing, exquisite cast chemistry, and a lot more, especially a few specific things.

I Love How Upload Shows The Positives And Negatives Of Technology, But Leans More Anti-AI

Lakeview seems like a magical concept. Instead of dying and seeing whatever happens after death, you go to this world that’s almost better than Earth because it’s a utopia. It’s the peace that so many crave with death, but without completely crossing over to a heaven or hell or just ceasing to exist.

It’s a man-made heaven, at least seemingly. Upload shows a very cool version of the future, and I remember thinking that Lakeview actually seems like an amazing idea. Of course, as the series goes on, Lakeview isn’t as ideal as it seems in the pilot. However, it’s not that perfect on the pilot either. Upload shows how Nathan (Robbie Amell) enjoys Lakeview but misses living. He longs for things that aren’t artificial. He craves real human connection. Nathan knows that Lakeview is great as a concept, but he knows living and experiencing the world is better.

Upload is a pro-technology show because it shows how helpful and advanced technology can become. We could just never die, a dream for many. Nevertheless, it’s also very critical of it. The series shows that never dying isn’t as amazing as it might seem. Lakeview can never compare to real air, real food, and real life. Upload being released in 2020 almost makes it feel like a show ahead of its time. It happened when the world was so isolating, and technology was one of the ways that people could stay connected.

However, most people missed real interactions. 2020 was also, unfortunately, a time when death was at an all-time high, so people were thinking more about the afterlife. A show about technology and death couldn’t feel more poignant for the time. Upload reflects how technology can improve communication but not replace genuine human contact. Additionally, AI is a major topic right now, especially in the film industry. Therefore, Upload almost feels anti-AI because it argues that some things can only truly feel human and life-like by being created by humans.

Nathan And Nora Feel More Destined Than I Originally Remembered

I knew Upload was one of Prime Video’s best original series when the chemistry between Nathan and Nora (Andy Allo) felt instantaneous. I committed to invest however long it took to see them end up together. I don’t think Upload is technically a romantic comedy TV show, but it feels like one.

Nora and Nathan’s relationship and love story are so vital to the series’ DNA. It wouldn’t work or be as entertaining without their will-they-won’t-they romance. I remembered that Nora develops an instant crush on Nathan, but the second viewing makes them feel more destined. Like his death is all part of a cosmic plan leading them to each other. If they don’t somehow end up together, despite death, then something went wrong in the algorithm of life and death.

Upload's Vision Of The Future Is Cooler Than I Realized

What I enjoy about Upload’s vision of the future is that it's basically the present with a few key changes. This feels the most like how things could be in the future. It’s not going to be completely overrun by robots, at least I hope not, but technology will advance in innovative ways, like devices that are basically holographic, and the ability to upload your consciousness to the cloud that feels like the real world.

Really futuristic shows are fun to watch, and I just enjoy the hyper-advanced version of the future. I love those shows, but I also really love a series, like Upload, that gives a more realistic look at the future. It would not surprise me if places like Lakeview eventually become a thing. After watching Upload, I don’t know if I want those places to exist, but I fully expect them to happen.

I Can Appreciate More Now How The Show Seamlessly Introduces This World

The moment Upload introduces this world, I am automatically sucked into it. I don’t need too much explanation or dialogue about it. I am fully downloaded on everything I need to know about this world. This includes Nathan and Nora’s lives.

Not every science fiction series, especially a comedy, can easily make an unusual world easy to comprehend in under 50 minutes. I respect and appreciate Upload for having such a clear vision of this future and translating it to the audience. It shows how good Greg Daniels is at TV shows. He does not miss.

Rewatching Upload Made Me More Excited To See How It All Ends

I had so many questions after Upload Season 1, then the Season 2 cliffhanger made me anxious for Season 3, and then I had plenty more questions after the last season. I am looking forward to finally seeing many, if not all, of my questions over the last three seasons finally get answered. Rewatching the pilot just reminded me how good Upload is as a mystery show. I don’t even remember if all the things set up in the pilot were answered yet, but I am now drawn back into the suspense and intrigue.

If not, I anticipate most of them being resolved by the end of the series. Additionally, rewatching the pilot just made me more excited to finish this series rewatch to be more informed and excited about the final four episodes. Upload starts as a really captivating comedy, and I hope it ends that way as well.

In 2012, Arrow premiered on The CW and kicked off a shared universe of DC Comics properties on television. The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and Black Lightning followed, and for nearly a decade, this franchise delivered interconnected stories that channeled the same appeal that their comic book source material had been doing for decades. Many superheroes were featured in the Arrowverse, but we’re here to talk about 32 that had major roles in the franchise.

Before going further, there are some stipulations to point out. First, these characters need to have been established in the comics as superheroes before they were introduced in the Arrowverse, hence why characters like Nia Nal/Dreamer, Sara Lance/White Canary and John Diggle/Spartan aren’t on here. Second, these characters need to be chiefly known as heroes in the comics, which is why the likes of Captain Cold, Heat Wave and Killer Frost won’t be mentioned. Finally, we’re only covering the six live-action shows that made up the main Arrowverse continuity, both pre and post-“Crisis on Infinite Earths,” so don’t go looking for people from shows like Superman & Lois and Stargirl.

Green Arrow

Arrow starred Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, and while he initially went by The Hood and The Arrow, this version of Oliver finally started going by Green Arrow in Season 4. In addition to his eight seasons leading Arrow, Amell’s Oliver participated in all the biggest Arrowverse crossover events. He died in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” but fans got to reunite with him in the Arrow series finale and The Flash episode “It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To.”

The Flash

Oliver Queen may have ushered in the Arrowverse, but it wasn’t until Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen got struck by that bolt of lightning that this franchise started getting truly fantastical and fully embracing its superhero roots. Barry protected the citizens of Central City for nine seasons of The Flash, and he was also present for every big Arrowverse crossover event. This Barry also had the unique privilege of being the only Arrowverse hero to cross over with the DCEU, as he met Ezra Miller’s Flash in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

Supergirl

Although Supergirl originally debuted on CBS, it was established to take part in the wider Arrowverse continuity when Barry Allen traveled to the Earth of Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers late in Season 1. Those ties only grew stronger once the show moved to The CW, and from there, Kara rounded out the Arrowverse’s main trinity of superheroes with Barry and Oliver Queen. At the end of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Kara’s Earth merged with the franchise’s main Earth, so Supergirl concluded its six-season run in the same world where the majority of her superhero cohorts now live.

Batwoman

Initially Batwoman starred Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, the same character who holds the mantle in the comics. However, following Rose’s exit post-Season 1, Ryan Wilder (seen above) was created to take over as the vigilante, with Javicia Leslie being cast to play her. Batwoman only lasted three seasons, but both Kate (later played by Wallis Day) and Ryan still stood out as important heroes before, during and after that time, with the former appearing in both the “Elseworlds” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths crossovers,” and the latter both reprising her role on The Flash and playing an evil speedster version of Ryan called Red Death early in Season 9.

Black Lightning

When Black Lightning came along, there was absolutely nothing connecting it to the Arrowverse. Jefferson Pierce’s return to superheroing unfolded in its own corner of the multiverse, but then “Crisis on Infinite Earths” came along and merged his Earth with the main Arrowverse Earth and Supergirl’s. Cress Williams would later reprise Jefferson for an episode of The Flash Season 8, but it was across Black Lightning’s four-season run where he shined best, with no one but the allies in his immediate circle on hand to help him out.

Black Canary

Five individuals held the Black Canary mantle in the Arrowverse: Sara Lance, the Laurel Lance from Earth-1, Evelyn Sharp, Dinah Drake (seen above), and the Laurel Lance from Earth-2. Of those five, the two Laurels and Dinah were able to unleash a sonic scream on their enemies, although Earth-1’s Laurel’s came from a device rather than as a metahuman ability like the other two. There had been plans for Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy to continue respectively playing Earth-2 Laurel and Dinah alongside Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak in a Green Arrow & The Canaries spinoff, but it was never picked up.

The Atom

Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer debuted at the beginning of Arrow Season 3, where he would unveil his A.T.O.M. exosuit. After initially having been presumed dead by the end of the season, Ray resurfaced in Season 4 having been revealed to be shrunken to the size of an atom, and he was able to incorporate shrinking into his exosuit. From there, he became one of the founding Legends of Tomorrow and stuck around on that show as a series regular until midway through Season 5.

Arsenal

By Arrow Season 3, Colton Haynes’ Roy Harper, who’d already appeared in the first two seasons, had taken up archery and joined Oliver Queen in fighting crime as Arsenal, though he was also called Red Arrow by the media. Although Roy had to leave Team Arrow that same season after he masqueraded as The Arrow and faked his death, he would still pop in and out of the show throughout the rest of Arrow’s run to help out his friends. He also followed in his comic book counterpart’s footsteps by gaining a cybernetic arm.

Speedy

The second Speedy in the comics was Mia Dearden, so it was only appropriate that Willa Holland's Thea Queen, who was a loose adaptation of the character, also received that name. When Roy left Star City, he left his Arsenal costume behind, and she made adjustments to it so she could wear it out in the field and join her brother Oliver as a bow-and-arrow-wielding superhero. Eventually she embarked on a personal crusade to battle the Thanatos Guild.

Vibe

Carlos Valdés’ Cisco Ramon was already a valued member of Team Flash at the beginning as its tech genius, but after he discovered he was a metahuman capable of manipulating dimensional energy, he became Vibe. Cisco took a metahuman cure in Season 5, but he continued to fight crime as Mecha-Vibe using a suit that provided him with some of his former powers until he left in Season 7 to join A.R.G.U.S.

Superman

I know, I said I wouldn’t include anybody from Superman & Lois on this list. However, in this case, I’m talking about the Superman from Earth-38/Earth-Prime. In other words, this is the Clark Kent who appeared on Supergirl and participated in “Elseworlds” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” We’d assumed he was also the one leading Superman & Lois until it was revealed that show is set on another Earth.

Martian Manhunter

Originally Supergirl viewers thought David Harewood was playing Hank Henshaw, the man who became Cyborg Superman in the comics. But early in Season 1, it was revealed that his character was actually J’onn J’onzz, a.k.a. Martian Manhunter, who assumed Henshaw’s identity to try and do good as the director of the Department of Extranormal Operations. Harewood would later play the sinister Henshaw for a few episodes, but it was J’onn who stuck around for all of Supergirl as one of Kara’s most important allies.

Elongated Man

Ralph Dibny gained his elastic powers from The Thinker’s machinations in The Flash Season 4, and after being stabilized, he joined Team Flash to help them fight crime as Elongated Man. Hartley Sawyer portrayed the character through to the end of Season 6, but after the actor was fired from the show, a stand-in performer was used for the Season 7 premiere. While healing from some major burns, Ralph decided to leave Team Flash to travel the world with Sue Dearbon and dismantle various criminal organizations.

Vixen

Although Mari McCabe, the Vixen from the comics, was played by Megalyn Echikunwoke in the Vixen and The Ray animated web series, as well as an episode of Arrow, it was the character’s grandmother, Amaya Jiwe (seen above), who got more attention in the Arroverse. An original character created for Legends of Tomorrow, Amaya, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers, was active as Vixen during World War II as a Justice Society member, and after traveling through time with the Legends for a while, she returned to her original time period at the end of Season 3. Richardson-Sellers then stuck around a few more seasons as a shapeshifter named Charlie.

Firestorm

Just like in the comics, the Arrowverse’s original Firestorm duo consisted of Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond and Victor Garber’s Martin Stein, with the two being recurring characters in The Flash Season 1. However, after Ronnie died in the Season 2 premiere, Stein merged a few episodes later with Franz Drameh’s Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (seen above), and the two went on to join the Legends of Tomorrow. That’s where they stayed until Stein died in the “Crisis on Earth X” crossover, prompting Jax to leave and resume his normal life.

John Constantine

Although NBC’s Constantine series only lasted one season, Matt Ryan was able to keep playing the trenchcoat-wearing sorcerer in multiple other ways, most notably in the Arrowverse. Following a guest appearance in Arrow Season 4, he returned two years later in Legends of Tomorrow, where he eventually became part of the team and hung around until the end of Season 6. Even then, Ryan remained on the series to play Gwyn Davies, the inventor of time travel.

Kid Flash

Depicted as Iris West’s long-lost brother rather than her nephew like in the comics, Keiynan Lonsdale’s Wally West was introduced midway through The Flash Season 2. After Season 3’s premiere showed him as the Kid Flash of the Flashpoint timeline, the main version of Wally gained super speed when Doctor Alchemy restored his powers from that other reality. Wally exited as a series regular at the beginning of The Flash Season 4, but would later make guest appearances in Seasons 6 and 9, as well as appearing in the latter half of Legends of Tomorrow Season 3.

Jay Garrick

After it was revealed that the Jay Garrick that viewers had been following along with in The Flash Season 2 was really the sinister Zoom, the real Jay was revealed at the end of that season to be a doppelgänger of Henry Allen from Earth-3. With John Wesley Shipp having played Barry Allen in The Flash TV show from 1990 (whom he also reprised in “Elseworlds and “Crisis on Infinite Earths”), it was only fitting that he also play this veteran speedster as well.

Thunder/Blackbird

If you’re making a show about Black Lightning, then it’s only appropriate that you include his superhero daughters too. The first of them was Nafessa Williams’ Anissa Pierce, a.k.a. Thunder, although there were also various instances where she went by the moniker Blackbird. Unlike her father and sister, Anissa didn’t generate and manipulate electricity, but rather was able to manipulate her density with her breathing, giving her super strength and durability.

Lightning

Like her superhero name clearly indicates, not only did Jennifer Pierce inherit the same kind of powers as her father, but she also had the added ability to generate electricity on her own rather than just manipulate it like Jefferson. China Anne McClain played Jennifer for the majority of Black Lightning’s run, but for a good chunk of Season 4, Laura Kariuki took over the role, though this was later revealed to be an ionosphere entity who stole her identity.

Mister Terrific

After being introduced in Arrow Season 4 as a Palmer Technologies employee who worked closely with Felicity Smoak, Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt (rather than Michael Holt, like in the comics) officially joined Team Arrow at the beginning of Season 5, taking the identity Mr. Terrific, which had previously belonged to his favorite wrestler. Curtis stuck with the team until the end of Season 6, and from there he briefly worked for A.R.G.U.S., then took a job in Washington D.C.

Wild Dog

Instead of using Jack Wheeler from the comics, Arrow gave that superhero identity to the original character Rene Ramirez, played by Rick Gonzalez. Although frequently hotheaded, Rene was nonetheless another valued member of Team Arrow for many seasons, though there was a period where he, Curtis and Dinah formed their own group. Eventually, Rene retired from being Wild Dog and became mayor of Star City by the end of the show.

XS

While XS is indeed a character from the comics, The Flash’s version of her is a melding of her and Barry Allen’s daughter, who was known as Dawn in the comics. In this show, while it’s implied that’s what Jessica Parker Kennedy’s character used to be named too, changes to the timeline led to her being named Nora, after Barry’s mother. The original version of Kennedy’s Nora was erased from the timeline after Cicada’s dagger was destroyed, but fortunately, a new version of her came into being afterward.

Impulse

Rather than being Barry Allen’s grandson like in the comics, Jordan Fisher’s Bart Allen, a.k.a. Impulse, is depicted as Barry and Iris West’s son, i.e. Nora’s sister. Introduced towards the end of Season 7, and a speedster just like his father and Nora, Impulse shared a special connection with Jay Garrick and had already made an enemy out of Godspeed from his time period.

Guardian

In Supergirl, the Guardian mantle was held by the Olsen siblings rather than Jim Harper or Mal Duncan. James Olsen first started fighting crime as Guardian in Season 2, with Winn Schott making him his suit and shield. Then in Season 6, one season after Mehcad Brooks stopped playing James as a series regular, Azie Tesfai’s Kelly Olsen (seen above) took over as the new Guardian, although James did don his costume one last time in the series finale.

Citizen Steel

Nick Zano’s Nate Heywood joined Legends of Tomorrow at the beginning of Season 2, gaining the ability to transform his body into steel from an experimental serum. This power is more like Colossus’ from the X-Men than the Nate from the comics, but it was a welcome one to have until mustard gas eroded the steel in Season 7, which led to him retiring from the team. This version of Nate also simply went by Steel rather than Citizen Steel, not to be confused with the John Henry Irons Steel.

Mon-El

Hailing from Daxam, a planet populated by Kryptonian offshoots, Mon-El gained the same kind of superpowers as Supergirl when he landed on Earth. However, because he was a spoiled prince from the Daxamite monarchy, it took a while for him to start behaving like a hero. Mon-El and Kara fell in love, but while Chris Wood and Melissa Benoist married in real life, it wasn’t meant to be for the characters. Mon-El ended up traveling to the 31st century and joined the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Batwing

When Batwoman began, Luke Fox initially started out working behind the scenes to help Kate Kane out, having already been keeping Wayne Tower secure on Batman’s behalf. Then in Season 2, Campus Johnson’s character began his own superhero journey, one which culminated in him constructing a supersuit and becoming Batwing, just like in the comics.

Brainiac 5

Brainiac 5 was one of Mon-El’s teammates in the Legion of Super-Heroes, and together with Saturn Girl, they traveled back to the present day in Supergirl Season 3. By the end of that season, Winn Schott decided to travel to the future to stop an AI-killing virus, Jesse Rath’s Brainiac 5, a.k.a. Brainy, stayed in the present and became one of Supergirl’s most valued allies. He also formed a romantic relationship with Nia Nal.

Hawkgirl

Although both Hawkgirl and Harman appeared in Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 following their introductions in the “Heroes Join Forces Crossover,” Ciara Renée’s Kendra Saunders unquestionably had the bigger role. After her version of Carter Hall was killed by Vandal Savage, she joined the Legends to help try to defeat the villain across time. By the end of Season 1, Kendra and a later incarnation of Carter left after Vandal was finally killed for good.

Rip Hunter

Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter, one of DC Comics’ greatest time travelers, assembled the Legends of Tomorrow to help him stop Vandal Savage. Season 2 saw him bring brainwashed by the Legion of Doom, but fortunately, their programming was erased, and he then decided to leave the Legends after realizing he had nothing left to teach them. He then spent the next five years of his personal timeline forming the Time Bureau, but by the end of Season 3, Rip sacrificed his stop the demon Mallus.

Jesse Quick

Rather than being Jesse Chambers like in the comics, The Flash’s version of Jesse Quick was Jesse Wells, the daughter of Earth-2’s Harrison Wells. Violett Beane's character gained her super speed after being exposed to dark matter during an attempt to restore Barry Allen’s own speed. By Season 3, she began fighting crime on Earth-2, and occasionally on Earth-1, as Jesse Quick. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as though Jesse was restored to life in the new multiverse created during “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

While the Arrowverse is over, these 32 will be remembered as some of its most prominent superheroes, and there are plenty of others we could spend time talking about. They’re just among the many reasons why this franchise will continue being enjoyed for years to come.

Stephen Amell has become recognizable over the past decade or so for his role as Oliver Queen (a.k.a. Green Arrow) in the CW’s Arrowverse, as well as for playing wrestler Jack Spade on Heels. Meanwhile, you’ve seen Robbie Amell in the Amazon comedy Upload and the CW’s The Flash. With their superhero backgrounds, the cousins teamed up in 2019 for Code 8, which ultimately went from indie underdog to one of Netflix’s most popular movies. Now, they’re back for Code 8: Part II, so what are critics saying about the sequel?

Code 8: Part II is available to stream now with a Netflix subscription and centers around Connor (Robbie Amell) and Garrett (Stephen Amell) aiming to help 14-year-old Pav (Sirena Gulamgaus) elude the corrupt police force and their robotic K9s. Marya E. Gates of RogerEbert.com says the movie is cheesy but fun, however, the sequel doesn’t find the same balance between its action and the emotional stakes as the first offering. Gates gives the movie 2.5 stars out of 4, writing:  

"Part of the problem is that the plotting is not as tight as the first film, which was penned solely by Chris Paré. Here he shares writing credits with Chan, Sherren Lee, and Jesse LaVercombe, and there may well be too many cooks in the kitchen. However, Chan's visual world-building remains sharp. The whole film has big, dilapidated Rust Belt vibes, from the rundown community center where Conor works as a janitor to the greasy spoon diner where he meets up with Garett. Everything here is gray and cold and bleak."

Alex Maidy of JoBlo, however, finds the sequel better than the original, rating it a “Good” 7 out of 10 for its fun action and better story. In fact, the critic says Code 8: Part II is better in every way, praising Sirena Gulamgaus for holding her own alongside her adult co-stars. In Maidy’s words: 

"With a better story, better special effects, and better character development, Code 8: Part II builds on the core concept of the original film and expands the action. Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell deliver on characters they have come to know well for a movie that is reminiscent of late 1980s/early 1990s sci-fi action movies. Code 8 Part II is familiar and fairly formulaic but still delivers a solid collection of action sequences that keep the pace moving from beginning to end. With a setup for a third film, Code 8 Part II could kickstart a solid genre franchise that would be worth revisiting every few years for new tales. "

Felipe Rangel of ScreenRant seconds the above opinion, also writing that Code 8: Part II elevates the story’s game in every way, from thrilling visual effects to exciting action to well-developed characters. Rangel rates the film 4 out of 5 stars and says: 

"While Code 8: Part II manages to outdo the original movie in its sci-fi elements, that is not the only improvement that can be seen in the sequel. Part II hinges on a script co-written by Chris Paré, Sherren Lee, Jesse LaVercombe, and director Jeff Chan. While it presents engaging action, it only hits as hard as it does due to the movie's slower, character-focused moments. The sequel tells a compelling story that gives plenty of chances for its main stars to shine, adding depth to returning characters and introducing interesting new players."

M.N. Miller of Geek Vibes Nation gives the movie a 7 out of 10, noting that it succeeds on the juice of the Amell cousins’ edgy chemistry. There’s surprising depth in this sci-fi world, Miller writes, making this “gritty, underground and raw” sequel worth watching. In the critic’s words: 

"Directed by Jeff Chan, this follow-up is a very good sequel that puts a premium on themes of unethical policing, institutional corruption, and the use of community activism as a beard to illegal activities. The script, written by Chan, Chris Pare, Sherren Lee, and Jesse LaVercombe, builds a world where those with powers are persecuted. In a post-social justice world, the PWPs begin to fight for what is rightfully theirs."

Alice Lange of Martin Cid magazine gives it 3 out of 5 stars, assuring fans of the first movie that they will not be disappointed in the sequel. While the new flick doesn’t break any new ground in the sci-fi or superhero genres, Code 8: Part II is a “great success,” Lange says, writing: 

"This second installment follows the formula of the first one, with a similar pace and aesthetic, but with better effects, a bigger budget, and identical plot lines. It is less surprising in terms of the dystopian narrative it presents, but more impactful visually, improving upon the first movie."

Most critics who have seen the Amell cousins’ sequel seem to prefer it to the original, which is great news for anybody who enjoyed the superhero flick while being stuck at home during the pandemic. Code 8: Part II is available to stream now on Netflix, and be sure to see what else is new and coming soon to Netflix. At the end of Upload Season 2, the big cliffhanger revolved around Nathan being in the Real World, and a possible copy of him existing in Lakeview. Well, that Back-Up came to life in Season 3, and everyone grew to love the two versions of Robbie Amell’s character. Now, the third installment has come to a close, and we have the opposite problem. It appears the two versions of Nathan have been captured, and possibly merged together, or one was killed. Either way, in the final moments, there’s only one version of him. Luckily, the director of Episode 8, Sarah Boyd chatted with CinemaBlend about this wild final scene, and how Amell dealt with playing it.

Upload’s Finale Director Breaks Down Nathan’s Final Two Scenes

Like the ending of Upload Season 2, the third installment finishes on a major, major cliffhanger that centers around Nathan and his survival. Real World Nathan is arrested. Meanwhile, while an ad is showing how “happy” people can be if they go into this afterlife, Back-Up Nathan is being chased around Lakeview, and while his friends and the A.I. Guys try to help him, he’s caught.

When they filmed that, Sarah Boyd told me Robbie Amell actually wanted to do his own stunts, and they had a lot of fun with it. During an interview with CinemaBlend, the director said:

Overall, it’s an intense, yet funny, scene (as Upload tends to be). However, it didn’t prepare me for the very end of the episode when we find out the two Nathans have seemingly been captured, and one is apparently "destroyed." The horror on Nora and Ingrid’s faces accurately describes how I felt during that moment too. Commenting on the fate of Robbie Amell’s character, Boyd said:

Honestly, “been through hell,” feels like an understatement. This guy has been through the wringer this season, and assuming the show gets renewed for a fourth season, things are only going to get more intense, for everyone. This is because at the end of the finale, we don’t know which Nathan we’re seeing, or if they’ve been merged. We see the horror on his loved ones' faces as they come to this realization, and that’s where the audience is left. It turns out, the cast and crew were also left hanging on this cliff too.

How Robbie Amell And Sarah Boyd Filmed The End Of Upload’s Finale 

Even though other Upload directors spoke about Robbie Amell’s commitment to playing the Nathans differently, when it came to this final sequence, they wanted to keep things ambiguous. Sarah Boyd explained that the actor did differentiate the two characters when he played it, however, it was nuanced. They made sure to have options so either Nathan could be the guy talking to Ingrid, Nora and co. She said:

Speaking about the conversations she had with Amell leading up to shooting this scene, Boyd said the goal was to make it so the audience couldn’t tell which Nathan was left at the end of the season. She explained:

So, while Amell shot both versions of Nathan, and they worked to keep things very nuanced and mysterious on his end, when it came to the reactions of his loved ones, that’s where Boyd was able to get a bigger range of extreme emotions. She said:

Overall, the ending of Upload’s third season is as intense as it is hilarious. There are still so many loose ends and questions to be answered. Much like with Season 2, they’ll need to prioritize plot points going into a new season. I think priority No. 1 has to be saving the Nathans from the goons who took him, and figuring out if it’s possible to get Real World and Back-Up Nathan back so they can go about their lives and be with Nora and Ingrid respectively.

While we got a great explanation of how Robbie Amell dealt with shooting Nathan’s wild ending, there are still so many questions to be answered. Season 3 has officially wrapped up on the 2023 TV schedule, so hopefully we’ll have news on Season 4 soon, so we can find out what happened in Lakeview.

Well, Upload Season 3 has officially come to an end, and much like the Season 2 finale of the Amazon comedy, it left us with a major cliffhanger. However, instead of the show ending with two versions of Nathan, it ends with one, because it seems like one of the variants of Robbie Amell’s protagonist is gone.

At the very end of Upload Season 3, it seems like everything is hunky-dory… for like two seconds. Real World Nathan and Nora are in a good place with their relationship, they settled the case against Freeyond and Horizen, and he isn’t afraid that his head will explode. Meanwhile, Ingrid and Back-Up Nathan have found themselves in a healthy relationship too. However, all these seemingly happy endings get thrown out the window when the Nathans get captured by Horizen at the very end of the episode.

Ending the show’s run on the 2023 TV schedule with such a massive question mark is commonplace for Upload. However, we’re truly entering uncharted territory now, especially when it comes to the two Nathans' futures. So, let’s talk about it.

Breaking Down Who Caught The Two Versions Of Nathan 

Despite Luke, Aleesha, Nathan and Nora giving over lots of valuable information for the Horizen and Freeyond case that had been going on, the corporation still won in a way. While Nora and co. won the case, it was settled and the information they gave over was sealed. So, it only feels like a temporary solution.

After that, it’s revealed that legally, there can only be one brain working at a time regarding Uploads. So, as Nora and Nathan walk out of the building after the case, he’s cuffed and taken away.

Then, as we learn about Horizen's new program called Betta, it becomes clear that nothing about the company is changing, they simply changed their name. Meanwhile, Lakeview Nathan is running for his life, trying to get away from the Horizen people who are trying to catch him. But, in the end, he’s captured too.

So, Is There Only One Version Of Nathan Now? 

After the big battle at Lakeview, where Back-Up Nathan is seen trying to take down Horizen he disappears, and like Real World Nathan, he’s captured by Horizen.

Eventually, Ingrid, Nora and Nathan’s family are able to get ahold of him, however, the thing is, it’s only one version of him. He says in the episode:

To me, and seemingly everyone seeing Nathan, it’s unclear which version we’re looking at. While Robbie Amell worked to differentiate the two, ultimately, they are essentially the same person. And in this moment, it’s basically impossible to tell which one we’re looking at. Nora and Ingrid don’t even know which variant is talking to them, as Nora asks which version of Nathan they're talking to at the end of the episode. This leads me to a few theories regarding which version of Amell’s character we’re seeing.

The first, and wildest, theory is somehow Horizen merged the two versions of Nathan into one. I have absolutely no idea how they’d do this. However, I had the same thought when a clone of Amell’s character came into the picture at the end of last season. And if I’ve learned anything from Upload, it’s that we need to always expect the unexpected. This would certainly be unexpected.

The other two theories center around one version of Nathan being alive, while the other is dead or hidden. These theories hinge on where the bad guys took them. Maybe Real World Nathan was the one on that video because he is the original version, and they’re on Earth. However Back-Up was taken in Lakeview, so it’s possible that they’re in the Upload land instead.

In the end, no matter how much we pick this apart, it’s truly unknown which version of Nathan we’re seeing, to the point that even the director of the episode doesn’t know, because they shot multiple iterations of the scene.

What The Director Said About Nathans’ Future 

Even Sarah Boyd, the director of Upload’s Season 3 finale, doesn’t know which version of Nathan we’re seeing. While speaking to CinemaBlend about Nathans’ wild final scene, she said:

So, it seems that there are even people who were part of the Upload cast and crew who don’t know which version of Nathan we’re seeing. As we discussed, it seems like there’s only one version of Robbie Amell’s character now, because he said the other was "destroyed," and it’s unclear who exactly we’re seeing.

Personally, I’m in the camp of the two being merged into one being. However, that’s a wild theory. Thinking reasonably, we might be seeing Real World Nathan on the footage, and maybe Back-Up Nathan has been locked even further away.

If the show is renewed for a fourth season, the Nathans and their loved ones are in a real pickle no matter what happens. We had finally gotten to a point where Ingrid and Nora were satisfied with their relationships, and so were the Nathans. Plus, Real World Nathan wasn’t living in fear anymore about his head exploding. So, it’s a real shame that all that got so messed up. However, there’s no question that whatever happens next will be wildly entertaining.

Much like how we don’t know which version of Nathan we were left with, we don’t know anything about Upload Season 4, because it has not been renewed yet. However, the minute we know more, we’ll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, you can stream one of Prime Video’s best shows on Amazon.

When it came to curveballs thrown at the end of Upload’s second season, the biggest and most impactful one was the knowledge that another version of Robbie Amell’s Nathan could exist. Well, they followed through on that cliffhanger in Season 3, and we’ve been getting to know Back-Up Nathan for four episodes now. While the two Nathans are fairly similar, there are subtle differences between them, and according to the directors of the show, they worked with Amell to make sure Real World and Back-Up Nathan were two nuanced and different characters. 

CinemaBlend had the chance to speak with Upload’s directors Jeffrey Blitz, who led episodes 1 and 2, and Tom Marshall, who helmed episodes 3 and 4, about the third season of the comedy, and specifically Robbie Amell’s two characters. While we’ve seen many versions of AI Guy, we’ve never dealt with copies of Nathan before, so it presented a new challenge for everyone in the show, specifically the actor who plays him. According to Blitz, the star put a lot of work into making this two characters different, he said, via email:

Going into more depth about the decisions the crew and Robbie Amell made to show the differences between the two Nathans, Tom Marshall explained how they added a “bit of a pudge” to Real World Nathan. This was done to show how Lakeview Nathan is unrealistically in shape and lives in a virtual world. He said:

Marshall went on to say that Nathan’s tiredness in the real world is a big way they differentiated the two characters. When Amell was playing that version they’d give him bags under his eyes, and he added a figurative weight to his performance. It’s 100% noticeable too, while Real World Nathan is constantly stressed, Back-Up Nathan is much more laid back and carefree. The director elaborated on this idea, and the actor’s performance, saying: 

Overall, the differences between Real World and Back Up Nathan are mostly seen through minor changes Robbie Amell made in his performance, and the nuanced details the crew worked into his look. Seeing the two characters and their differences has made for a fascinating dynamic this season that we’ve never seen before. As more episodes come out, and Back-Up Nathan starts to evolve into his own being, it will be interesting to see how Amell changes his performance and his look.

Uploads, downloads, copies, back-ups and more all came into play at the end of Upload Season 2, and almost immediately after the finale dropped I desperately needed to know how all these new factors would impact the show. With so many moving parts to the show’s cliffhanger – including multiple versions of Robbie Amell’s Nathan existing and the ongoing conspiracy theory regarding Freeyond – it’s important to think about primary points that need to be prioritized in Season 3, and the premiere’s director, Jeffery Blitz has us covered. 

There are so many moving pieces, storylines and fun disturbing details in Upload, especially now that Nathan is in the Real World as an unprecedented download. Speaking to all these vital plot points, Jeffery Blitz broke down what they needed to prioritize going into Season 3. He told CinemaBlend in an email interview:

Talk about a lot to juggle. Season 2 of Upload really put tons of plot points in motion, and they left a lot of them up in the air at the end of the season. Blitz directed the finale of the sophomore season before hopping on to helm the beginning of the junior installment, making him the perfect person to continue this story. As he mentioned, it was vital to pick Season 3 up basically right where they left off to ensure that various storylines were addressed immediately so the show could quickly expand on them.

This is felt mostly in Nathan’s story after he downloads. As the director noted, Robbie Amell’s character’s fate is unknown at the end of Season 2. His relationship with Nora was a big question mark, the future for a download is totally uncharted, and, as Blitz noted, Nathan has a “bomb” in his head, and we don’t know if that’s going to go off. 

Luckily, all this and more was addressed during the Season 3 premiere and its second episode. We learn about how Nathan is doing in the real world, Ingrid’s plot to make a backup copy of Robbie Amell’s character is seen through, Aleesha’s promotion adds some unexpected challenges to her work, and Luke is so sad now that his BFFL is gone. All these points create the stakes for the season that lies ahead.

While there are more plot points to discuss – like Luke and Aleesha’s interesting relationship – overall, the premiere of one of Amazon Prime’s best shows addresses many of the unanswered questions that we’ve been marinating on since Season 2. 

It’s so satisfying to see Season 2’s cliffhanger pay off, and it also sets up the challenges for Season 3. We’re officially in uncharted territory now as Nathan, the download, navigates the real world and tries to figure out the greater conspiracy behind Lakeview and Freeyond with Nora, while Nathan, the backup, lives in Lakeview with Ingrid and Luke.  The first season of Prime Video's Upload delivered the kind of hilariously glitch-filled (and occasionally deadly) future that one might expect from one of the biggest tech companies in the world. Season 2 has provided an equally bonkers journey into the digital afterlife and the reality surrounding it, and even with fewer episodes to explore, creator Greg Daniels unleashed a slew of new details and twists that ranged from “somewhat innocently horrifying” to “inarguably heinous.” From the A.I. Guy’s nightmarish visage on the Prototykes babies to the DreamHub website streaming the uploads’ subconscious thoughts to the shocking reveal that Freeyond is being used for voter manipulation, Upload went all out in following up on Season 1's cliffhanger ending.

CinemaBlend spoke with Upload’s cast going into the second season’s premiere — including Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Kevin Bigley, and Zainab Johnson — and as seen in the video above, I had to ask everybody what they thought they most disturbing elements were that were introduced in Season 2. Here’s what Robbie Amell had to say:

In a manner that somewhat mirrored the two actors’ close-knit relationship on the show, Andy Allo echoed Amell’s thoughts, and couldn’t keep from laughing just at the thought of actor Owen Daniels’ face on the Prototykes. In her words:

I don't think anybody will be able to refute the fact — or Fact with a capital F, even — that the Prototyke scenes provide instant discomfort and slight nausea, as well as an innate motivation to put one's hand over its face. It's impossible not to want it to stop existing!

Of course, both Robbie Amell and Andy Allo are also correct in their assertions that Freeyond is the top dog (or bottom dog?) for its plot to convince poor and homeless people to upload their consciousnesses without charge, namely so it would remove all of those citizens from taking part in voting. Considering how sensitive the topic of voting is these days, it's not so hard to understand where Greg Daniels and his creative team came up with the idea. 

But let's bring things back around to the horror of babies that have small adult faces on them. Kevin Bigley, who plays Nathan's always-entertaining Lakeview BFF Luke, did give the DreamHub app props for wrecking privacy, but the Prototykes once again earned a high honor. According to Bigley:

Co-star Zainab Johnson, who plays Luke's ever-flummoxed angel Aleesha, shared those opinions as well. It says something about the weirdness of Prototykes that Johnson still went with that even though the DreamHub storyline meant Luke's naughty dreams about Aleesha were online for any and all to see. (I guess it technically doesn't count as a nude leak if it's just someone's dreamlike version?) In any case, here's how the actress put it:

Kevin Bigley then shared a hilarious story about him and Zainab Johnson watching a Prototykes scene for the first time, but before the visual effects had been added in, which created a whole other level of grossness for all to endure. Hilariously calling the whole thing "disgusting," Bigley described the situation as such:

Absolutely nothing against Owen Daniels, but my goodness, does he have the perfect features to place onto the face of a trauma-inspiring digital infant. I feel like that's almost a compliment when viewed from a very specific point of view. And that viewpoint would be from behind, where the little bastard's ugly mug can be avoided. And even though I say "little" there, I am not just limiting it to the baby version, as every age range that Daniels' Prototyke reached sparked another set of discomforted shivers.

Spoilers below if you haven’t yet watched through the fourth episode of Upload Season 2, so be warned!

At long last, Upload Season 2 has arrived to give fans answers to questions that we’ve been mulling over for nearly two years, with the first season having debuted in May 2020. Thankfully, creator Greg Daniels didn’t miss a step in the meantime, as this new batch of episodes provides endless sci-fi-infused hilarity, while also sprinkling in some genuinely important narrative beats. But we can save the truly important stuff for another time, as we’re now going to spotlight one of the funniest pop culture nods in Season 2, which happened to come at the expense of the always braggadocious YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul. 

The moment in question came in the early minutes of Episode 204, as Andy Allo’s Nora was on a clandestine mission inside a giant facility with Josh Banday’s Horizen-duping Ivan and Paulo Costanzo’s Matteo. The protest mission involved sabotaging and rendering useless all of the regenerated bodies being housed in the compound, as they all belonged to the rich and the elite. Since Nora wasn’t ever completely on board with all the anti-uploading shenanigans, she attempted to make a last-second save for one of the bodies after Ivan and Matteo’s exit. But upon seeing that the body inside the tank belonged to Jake Paul, she thought better of it and re-sabotaged the machine, leaving Paul’s new body to “die,” as it were.

When CinemaBlend spoke with stars Andy Allo and Robbie Amell ahead of Season 2’s big debut, I had to ask about that particular joke, which lands a little less than three months after Paul’s knockout victory over UFC vet Tyron Woodley. Here’s how Allo put it:

While Andy Allo didn’t speak to whether or not there were any other celebs whose names could have ended up in the show, I like to think that creator Greg Daniels and his team landed on Paul instantly and then never backed away from the idea. Not even his brother Logan Paul would have been as good of a joke, despite the fellow boxer also having amassed a population of haters over the years. 

Speaking to that, the amount of polarization that Jake Paul inspires kind of makes him that much more fitting for this punchline, since there’s less worry about the reference coming across as too topical and not able to stand the test of time. I’m pretty sure people are going to be railing against (and arguing for) Paul for as long as he’s still running his mouth and swinging his fists.

Robbie Amell did chime in while Andy Allo was answering, as seen above. While he didn’t comment on Jake Paul’s inclusion, he did bring up how many backsides were on display on that set.

The Flash Season 8’s opening “Armageddon” arc is packed with familiar Arrowverse faces, and when the Scarlett Speedster’s CW series returns next year, there’ll be a few other folks we haven’t seen in a while stopping by. Last month, it was revealed that Rick Cosnett will reprise Eddie Thawne in a flashback capacity. Now word’s come in that Upload and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City star Robbie Amell, who popped in and out of The Flash’s first three seasons, is also back for Season 8.

As longtime fans of The Flash will remember, Robbie Amell played Ronnie Raymond, one half of the original Firestorm duo opposite Victor Garber’s Martin Stein. The last time we saw Amell on The Flash was in Season 3’s “Into the Speed Force,” and following that half-decade absence, EW reports that Amell will appear in two Season 8 episodes, starting with Episode 11. No details about his return were disclosed.

Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond was introduced in The Flash Season 1 as Caitlin Snow’s fiancée who was thought to have died in the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion. As it turned out though, he’d actually merged with Martin Stein and the scientist’s F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M. matrix. Ronnie and Martin spent months forcibly combined, but thanks to the help of Team Flash, specifically Harrison Wells (actually a disguised Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash), they were finally able to separate and get a better handle on their powers. Unfortunately, Ronnie was presumed dead after Firestorm helped Barry dissipate the singularity that nearly destroyed Central City. Franz Drameh’s Jefferson Jackson would soon take Ronnie’s place as the other half of Firestorm for The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Robbie Amell returned later on in The Flash Season 2 as Ronnie Raymond’s sinister Earth-2 doppelgänger known as Deathstorm, and then a manifestation of him appeared during “Into the Speed Force” the following season. Since the original Ronnie’s body was never recovered, it’s possible that Amell could be reprising Ronnie in the present day, and we’ll learn the extraordinary circumstances of how he survived and where he’s been all this time. However, like with Rick Cosnett, it’s also possible that we’ll simply see Amell playing Ronnie again in flashbacks. If that’s the case, then I’m curious about why we’d be looking back on him in years past for two episodes rather than just one.

In any case, to all the fans of The Flash out there, remember that after “Armageddon” concludes next month, the series will be going on hiatus until March, so it’ll be a while until we learn what’s in store for Ronnie Raymond. News of Robbie Amell’s return to The Flash comes several weeks after Victor Garber and Franz Drameh reprised their respective Firestorm roles for Legends of Tomorrow’s 100th episode. Other familiar faces confirmed to appear later on in The Flash Season 8 include Jessica Parker Kennedy’s Nora West-Allen, Jordan Fisher’s Bart Allen and John Wesley Shipp’s Jay Garrick.

The Resident Evil franchise has seen its share of ups and downs over the years, though for the most part, the wins and losses could have been attributed to filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson. Together with his then-wife Milla Jovovich, Anderson helmed multiple adaptations of the popular video game series, without really adhering to the things that worked in the game. Johannes Roberts wanted to change that. When he took over the new Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, he committed to bringing elements from the game directly to the screen. But that meant one aspect that made the shoot pretty miserable for the cast. They explain in the video above.

As you likely know, Resident Evil is a zombie game, with humans taking on the undead in soaking wet locations that drip with despair. There are two locations that are important to the games, and they make up a big chunk of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. That would be the Raccoon City Police Department, and the Spencer Mansion. But outside of these sets, director Johannes Roberts wanted to create an environment that was rainy, cold, and off-putting. And given the fact that they filmed in Ontario, Canada, in the wintertime, that meant long, hard nights for the cast and crew. 

You would think that after starring in the killer crocodile thriller Crawl, which meant being submerged in waters caused by a Florida hurricane, would keep Kaya Scodelario from appearing in a rain-soaked thriller like Resident Evil, but she told CinemaBlend during a recent interview:

Kaya Scodelario’s co-star, Robbie Amell, echoed her statement that filming Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in the freezing rain was terrible. But like her, he also saw the upside, telling CinemaBlend: 

The movie came out in theaters last weekend, appealing to fans of the video games and those looking for scares after the Halloween season. Check it out, if you dare. 

Wattpad has long been a safe space for writers to share the stories they create for a massive audience, often leaning toward romance and erotica genres without the barriers of needing any sort of book deal to get it published. In recent years, the app/website has also become a launching pad for writers to truly get published in print, and lately, movies based on their stories come alive. Netflix’s Kissing Booth trilogy and the After franchise have proved there’s a place in Hollywood for these stories, and Lionsgate has just jumped on a new one. 

Writer Kate Marchant first published her story Float on Wattpad when she was 17 years old, and now it’s a huge hit and getting a film adaptation, per an official announcement from Lionsgate. The movie adaptation starring Robbie Amell of CW’s The Flash and Andrea Bang of Kim’s Convenience has already been filming in Vancouver since last week. Float has been read by nearly 26 million people and could be the next phenomenon akin to After and The Kissing Booth as each of those franchises wrap up. 

The movie will be helmed by first-time film director Sherren Lee, who previously has been recognized for her work on the short film The Things You Think I’m Thinking back in 2017. Lee has also helmed a number of TV show episodes, including Kim’s Convenience with her lead, Andrea Bang, who played Janet alongside Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu for five seasons. Lee shared these words with the announcement: 

Float will not only bring a Wattpad romance to life, it will create some space for Asian representation in the romance arena. The story follows a pre-med student Waverly (Bang) who spends the summer in a beach town and meets a local named Blake (Amell). When Blake learns she cannot swim, he offers to teach her and the pair form an unlikely romance. 

The movie will differ from the original story that instead follows a 17-year-old who is hanging out in Florida against her wishes following her parent’s divorce. The changes look like it might mature Float a bit more rather than it centering on high school students. Lionsgate's vice president of co-productions and acquisitions Lauren Bixby said that the chemistry between its two stars are “undeniable” and shared her excitement to share the film. Following their paths crossing paths in the Arrowverse during The Flash Season 1’s penultimate episode, cousins Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell teamed up for the sci-fi short film Code 8, which was later adapted into a feature-length tale. A little over a year and a half after the Code 8 movie’s release, it’s been announced that the sequel, Code 8: Part II, is heading to streaming; Netflix, to be precise.

Netflix has struck a deal with XYZ Films to acquire the global rights to Code 8: Part II. As noted by THR, this marks the streaming giant’s first English-language original movie to hail from Canada, although it previously obtained the global rights to the French-language Canadian movie Le Guide de la famille parfaite (The Guide to the Perfect Family). Along with Stephen and Robbie Amell reprising their respective roles, Jeff Chan, who directed Code 8, will helm the sequel too. Chan also wrote the script with Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe.

It’s not terribly surprising that Netflix got its hands on Code 8: Part II given its ties to the first movie. Code 8 was added to Netflix in April 2020 and collected a lot of views on the platform. So it’s hardly surprising Netflix would want to snatch Code 8: Part II. News of this acquisition follows several months after Netflix bought the rights to two Knives Out sequels from director Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman, with the first Knives Out, like Code 8, having been initially been released theatrically.

For those unfamiliar with Code 8, the movie is set in a world where a portion of the world’s population is born with superhuman abilities, but are forced to register their abilities and face discrimination, to the point that many resort to crime simply to survive. Robbie Amell played Connor Reed, a electrokinetic who looked after his mother, a cyrokinetic who suffers from brain cancer. Stephen Amell played Garrett Kent, a telekinetic who worked for a Trust syndicate crime lord helping to flood the streets with Psyke, an addictive drug made from the spinal fluid of Powers, i.e. the people with abilities.

As for Code 8: Part II, the sequel will follow a teenaged superpowered girl who, after witnessing her father’s murder, seeks the help of Connor and Garrett. Together, the trio will face off against a unit of corrupt police officers who “deploy advanced robotic technology to prevent themselves from being exposed.” Aside from Stephen and Robbie Amell reprising their roles, no other casting for Code 8: Part II has been announced yet, but it’s expected to begin shooting in Canada later this year so it’ll be ready to premiere on Netflix in 2022. Originally the Code 8 saga was going to continue in a spinoff TV series, but with Quibi having shut down, it appears the project is no longer in development.

For the hardcore Stephen and Robbie Amell fans out there, the former is starring in the upcoming Start series Heels, while the latter is returning for Season 2 of the Amazon series Upload.

It’s only been four years since the original Resident Evil film series starring Milla Jovovich concluded, but this property is already getting the cinematic reboot treatment. Actors like Robbie Amell and Kaya Scodelario have been assembled for a new big screen take on the Resident Evil video game franchise, and it’s been announced that the new movie is arriving a little earlier than expected.

In late 2020, it was reported that the Resident Evil reboot would arrive in theaters on September 9, 2021, but as of today, Sony Pictures will release it on September 3, i.e. nearly a full week earlier. Right now, Resident Evil’s only Labor Day opening weekend competition is Jackass 4 from Paramount Pictures, although the prior weekend sees the release of Universal’s Candyman, while later September releases include A Quiet Place Part II, Death on the Nile, The Man from Toronto and The Many Saints of Newark.

No specific plot details for the Resident Evil reboot have been revealed yet aside from the fact that it will chronicle the origin story of the Resident Evil world in 1998 Raccoon City. Preproduction on the movie began in early 2017, when Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was still playing in theaters. Following the departure of Mortal Kombat’s Greg Russo, Johannes Roberts of 47 Meters Down fame was tapped to direct and write a new version of the screenplay, and he later said that he was interested in re-exploring the events of the first two Resident Evil games. Interestingly enough, if Sony had moved Resident Evil to September 29, that would have been the same day that Resident Evil 2’s 1998 narrative took place, which would have been a fun connection.

As mentioned earlier, Upload’s Robbie Amell and Crawl’s Kaya Scodelario are among the Resident Evil reboot’s starring actors, with the actors playing brother/sister duo Chris and Claire Redfield. The cast also includes Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Alan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Lily Gao as Ada Wong, Neal McDonough as William Birkin, Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons, Chad Rook as Richard Aiken and Marina Mazepa as Lisa Trevor. Principal photography began in Ontario, Canada On October 17, 2020 and concluded on December 24.

Right now, it’s unclear if the Resident Evil reboot is intended to launch a new film series or be a one-and-done affair, although given how popular the video game franchise still is after 25 years and Hollywood’s fondness for sequels, the former seems likely. There’s certainly enough mythology to warrant delivering a trilogy, if not expanding into a full-blown cinematic universe. It’s possible, though, that Sony is waiting to see how this first movie performs before deciding if it’s worth it keeping this particular continuity going.

Of course, this isn’t the only live-action Resident Evil project on the way. An eight-episode TV series is in development at Netflix that takes place across two timelines: the first follows sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City and learning about their father’s dark secrets, and the second takes place over a decade into the future, with Jade an adult and living in a world where the majority of humanity and animals have been infected by the T-virus. Netflix also has an anime series in the works called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness that stars Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as its main characters, and it’s slated to premiere sometime in 2021.

For many audiences, How I Met Your Mother was how they met Hunters actor Josh Radnor, MCU heroine Cobie Smulders, and Cristin Milioti of Palms Springs. It is also likely how they became reacquainted with Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast alum Alyson Hannigan, former Freaks and Geeks cast member Jason Segel, and Neil Patrick Harris – formerly known as Doogie Howser. Yet, some fans may not realize that the hit CBS comedy may also be how they met many of today’s biggest celebrities.

As it often happens with long-running TV shows (nine seasons, in this case), the sitcom from creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas turned out to be a big break (or the home of a brief, but fun, appearance) for many you would easily recognize today. In fact, to mention every big name we found in supporting roles alongside the How I Met Your Mother cast list would take longer than the story of Ted Mosby’s life-changing romance (as well as the misadventures of his friends in New York). So, we narrowed the list down to 31 celebrities, starting with one incredibly talented performer who appeared on the series right before he became legen– wait for it… DARY!

Lin-Manuel Miranda (Gus)

Before his hip-hop history lesson, Hamilton, made him the biggest name on Broadway, Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Mother’s final season that is also told entirely in rhyme. He even gets to drop a few sick verses as a bus patron initially annoyed by Marshall’s incessant use of homonyms to put his infant son to sleep while en route to Barney and Robin’s wedding.

Rizwan Manji (Dr. Vikash)

In Season 5’s “Double Date,” we see a glimpse into one of Marshall’s sexual fantasies, which requires him to envision an elaborate scenario in which Lily is diagnosed with a “rare and fatal hiccup disorder.” The doctor in that imagined scenario is played by Rizwan Manji, who would go on to steal scenes from the Schitt’s Creek cast as Ray Butani and star in movies like The Wolf of Wall Street or, more recently, Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Jay Ellis (Sound Guy)

Marshall visits his father’s grave to tell him all about the gang’s New Year’s adventures, such as when Robin steps in to produce, and ultimately, cover the celebration in Times Square in “Tailgate.” The Season 7 holiday episode also features an early sighting of Top Gun: Maverick’s Payback actor, Jay Ellis, as Robin’s audio technician.

Raymond Lee (College Dude)

Ellis is not the only Top Gun: Maverick cast member who had a role in a 2012 HIMYM episode. The following season, Raymond Lee – who also went on to lead the rebooted Quantum Leap cast – appeared as a “sandwich-eating” Wesleyan student whom Ted discovers from an old video gave him the idea for his alter ego, Doctor X.

Matt Walsh (Captain Dearduff)

Fans of Matt Walsh’s work in 2009’s The Hangover and the Veep cast, to name a few, would be forgiven for not noticing his subtle HIMYM cameo in Season 9’s “Sunrise.” In Marshall and LIly’s room at Farhampton hangs a photo of the sailor who supposedly haunts the room, Captain Dearduff, which is really a photo of the actor, who, coincidentally, later appeared on CBS’ supernatural comedy, Ghosts, as the spirit of Elias Woodstone.

Kate Micucci (Registrar)

When the gang heads to Atlantic City to see Marshall and Lily Elope in Season 2, they try to obtain a marriage license from a clerk who continuously gives them false hope by saying “what she would say” if it were true or possible. This frustratingly misleading registrar is played by Kate Micucci in only her second acting gig before she and Riki Lindhome hit it big as musical comedy duo, Garfunkel and Oates, and she starred in one of the best episodes of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, “The Outside.” 

Matthew Moy (Louis)

A HIMYM guest actor who went to become a regular on another hit CBS comedy is Matthew Moy, who appeared in Season 5’s “The Window” as Ted’s student, Louis. Two years later, he was on 2 Broke Girls – which was cancelled in 2017 – as Williamsburg Diner owner, Han Lee.

Jayma Mays (Coat Check Girl)

Before working with Neil Patrick Harris as part of the Glee cast (when he guest-starred in 2010) and playing his wife in the Smurfs movies, Jayma Mays appeared opposite him in one of the best episodes of How I Met Your Mother: Season 1’s “Okay Awesome.” One of Mays’ earliest TV roles was a woman working the coat check counter at a nightclub who impresses Ted by sharing a low opinion of such places.

Anna Camp (Cassie Lowell)

Glee also gave Anna Camp a chance to exhibit her singing skills before doing so in the Pitch Perfect cast in 2012. The following year, the actor appeared in two episodes of HIMYM’s ninth season as an attractive and outgoing guest at Robin and Barney’s wedding whom Ted takes interest in, but with increasingly disastrous results.

Amber Stevens West (Janet McIntyre)

Already well-versed in disastrous romances by How I Met Your Mother’s seventh season, Ted and a beautiful woman he recently met named Janet McIntyre both agree to avoid each other’s social media presence to prevent disappointment on their first date, which becomes a greater challenge than either expected. The woman is Amber Stevens West – best known at the time for Greek, before appearing in 22 Jump Street and landing a starring role opposite comedian Jerrod Carmichael on the short-lived comedy, The Carmichael Show, on NBC.

Morena Baccarin (Chloe)

How I Met Your Mother even put a then-single Marshall in a disastrous romance (which, thankfully, resulted in he and Lily rekindling their relationship in Season 2) with a seemingly well-natured barista (despite Barney’s warning of her “crazy eyes”) played by Morena Baccarin. Baccarin was previously best known from the Firefly cast as Inara Serra and would go on to have a somewhat more successful relationship with Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson in Deadpool.

Ryan Michelle Bathe (Michelle)

Baccarin’s co-star on NBC’s The Endgame cast, Ryan Michelle Bathe, appeared in the Season 3 episode, “Sandcastles in the Sand,” which explores the idea that a certain friend or loved one can bring out a dramatically different personality in someone. Case in point, when Lily suddenly adopts a boisterous, “party girl” attitude during a visit by her friend, Michelle, who is played by Bathe -- best known at the time for a recurring role on Boston Legal and later for the Amazon original romance, Sylvie’s Love.

Robbie Amell (Nate Scooberman)

Baccarin has also appeared in several DC adaptations, such as The Flash – on which Robbie Amell (Stephen’s cousin) played the incendiary Ronnie Raymond. The Canadian star of Upload – which has a third season in the works – also had a pair of HIMYM guest spots in Season 6 as Robin’s new boyfriend, who unwittingly earns the nickname “Scooby” and not just for his last name, but for his canine-esque characteristics, especially after he “eats a sandwich.”

Doug Benson (Cool Customs Guy)

“Eating sandwiches” is a claim to fame for Doug Benson and likely earned him the part of an airport customs agent who allows Marshall through without checking what he brought back from Amsterdam. This “miraculous” flashback moment from HIMYM’s third season is one of the comic’s many appearances as a stoner (or, in other words, himself), such as on Bob’s Burgers and You’re the Worst.

Scoot McNairy (Fast Food Worker)

Also one to appear on How I Met Your Mother in a nameless role is Scoot McNairy, who is now one of the most acclaimed actors of his day for movies like 12 Years a Slave, and TV shows like True Detective. Despite the briefness of the Batman v Superman star’s Season 2 appearance as a cashier from a restaurant visited by a starving Marshall and Lily at their wedding, he is remembered as the first stranger to refer to Lily as Marshall’s wife.

Malin Akerman (Movie Stella)

Speaking of DC movies, Malin Akerman appeared in Zack Snyder’s 2009 Watchmen movie a year before she, supposedly, poked fun at blockbuster stardom on Season 5 of How I Met Your Mother. She plays the female lead of a hit romance flick called The Wedding Bride, which happens to be a highly fictionalized retelling of when Stella (future Rick and Morty star, Sarah Chalke) left Ted at the altar for her ex-husband, Tony (Jason Jones), who also wrote the screenplay.

Jon Heder (Narshall)

In Season 9, we learned there was actually a sequel called The Wedding Bride Too, which the gang watches at Farhampton (the site of Barney and Robin’s nuptials) despite Ted’s forbiddance. One character of the fictional film, who appears to be based off of Marshall, is played by Jon Heder, whose defining role is Napoleon Dynamite in the iconically bizarre 2004 indie comedy of the same name.

Judy Greer (Royce)

Ted actually first sees the original Wedding Bride while on a date with a woman named Royce, played by Judy Greer. As a, sort of, reversal of Malin Akerman’s career trajectory, the Archer actress would find blockbuster stardom years after her HIMYM role as as Bryce Dallas Howard’s sister in Jurassic World, Laurie Strode’s daughter in the more recent Halloween movies, and in the MCU as Ant-Man’s ex-wife, Maggie.

Jon Bernthal (Carlos)

Also connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is The Punisher star Jon Bernthal, who first played a morally questionable comic book character on The Walking Dead for two seasons. Years earlier, the actor – who is also set to reprise Frank Castle on Disney+’s upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again – appeared in the second-ever episode of How I Met Your Mother as Carlos: a mysterious guest of Ted’s three-night party who almost ruins his increasingly problematic attempts to woo Robin.

Lindsey Morgan (Lauren)

When Barney and Ted board what they refer to as the “Drunk Train” to meet women, they only end up getting drinks thrown in their faces by passengers who very quickly assume they “think they’re better” than them. One of the women is played by Lindsey Morgan, who – just two years later – starred in CW’s The 100 cast as Raven Reyes before playing Micki Ramirez on Walker for the first season of the network’s crime drama reboot.

Rachel Bloom (Wanda)

Another up-and-comer who threw a drink in Ted’s face after feistily asking, “Ya think ya betta than me?!” on the Drunk Train was Rachel Bloom. One of the first high-profile TV appearances by Bloom was on that Season 7 How I Met Your Mother episode, before she went on to win a Golden Globe for playing a lawyer making increasingly problematic attempts to woo a man from her past on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which she also co-created.

Floriana Lima (Haley)

Another HIMYM character who had a drink thrown in his face in Season 3’s “Rebound Bro,” is Barney’s potential replacement for Ted, Randy (Will Forte), after his disastrous attempt to hit on a bar patron named Haley. This role was the second ever for Floriana Lima, who has since starred on two TV series comic book adaptations (Supergirl as Maggie Sawyer and The Punisher Season 2 as the villainous Krista Dumont) and ABC’s hit drama, A Million Little Things.

Kristen Schaal (Laura Girard)

A comedic actress known for her feisty characters is Kristen Schaal, star of movies and TV shows like Bill and Ted Face the Music as the time-traveling Kelly or Bob’s Burgers, for which she lends her unmistakable voice to play Louise Belcher on Bob’s Burgers. In HIMYM’s third season, she played one-half of the Girards – a couple living across from Marshall and Lily, who first seem like the perfect neighbors until the friendship becomes a little invasive.

Larry Wilmore (Dr. Greer)

Kristen Schaal was also a Daily Show commentator for years, much like the news satire’s former “Senior Black Correspondent” Larry Wilmore, who would eventually get his own short-lived Comedy Central show called The Nightly Show. The actor, writer, and talk show host also popped up on Season 3 of HIMYM as a veterinarian who buys Lily’s artwork after discovering its calming effect on dogs.

Matt Jones (Pizza Guy/Arthur)

How I Met Your Mother is also famous for several appearances by Breaking Bad cast members, including Bryan Cranston as Ted's former boss Hammond Druthers, Bob Odenkirk as Marshall's former boss Arthur Hobbs, and Matt Jones as a pizza deliverer in Season 5. Jones, who played Jesse Pinkman's buddy Badger on the phenomenal AMC crime drama, made a second appearance later that season as the same character, whom we then learned was a frequent visitor the gang even knows by name.

Hong Chau (Cook Pu)

Speaking of names, on another Season 5 HIMYM episode, Ted once assumed his architecture class was playing a trick when he found "Cook Pu" written on the attendance sheet and proceeded to mock the name several times. He came to the late, awkward realization that it belonged to a real student of his played by Hong Chau, who would go on to receive a Golden Globe nomination for Downsizing, an Oscar nomination for The Whale as Liz, and also steal the show from the Menu cast as Elsa.

Jimmi Simpson (Pete Durkenson)

In HIMYM's seventh season, we learn that Marshall once went by a funny name (of his own invention), "Beercules," from an embarrassing video uploaded by an old college buddy named Pete Durkenson, who ends up reviving his drunken alter ego after a game of "Edward Fortyhands." This serial drinker (who, apparently, is a surgeon professionally) is one of many notable TV appearances by Jimmi Simspson – best known today for one of the best Black Mirror episodes, "U.S.S. Callister," and as William on Westworld, more recently.

Martin Starr (Kevin)

Jason Segel is just one of a few Freak and Geeks vets who have been on HIMYM. For instance, future Silicon Valley cast member Martin Starr made a guest appearance in the Season 1 episode “The Duel” as a guy who is not quite Robin’s type, but she tries going out with him in protest of Barney’s introduction of a Lemon Law for dating.

Busy Philipps (Rachel)

Martin Starr is not the only Freaks and Geeks alum who, sort of, reunited with Jason Segel on HIMYM as Busy Phillips – who played Kim Kelly on the prematurely cancelled dramedy – appeared in a Season 3 episode. She plays Rachel – a friend of Ted's former one-night stand, Trudy (Danica McKeller), who seems interested in trying again with the newly single architect when Rachel shows signs of wanting to share.

Conan O’Brien (Bar Patron)

After Conan O'Brien won the chance to appear on How I Met Your Mother's seventh season, instead of more formally sharing the screen with the cast, he opted to just blend into the scenery in an uncredited role, according to ScreenRant. Thus, you may not have spotted the living late night legend’s cameo as a guy just hanging out at MacLaren's unless you were paying close attention.

Harvey Fierstein (Lily’s Smoking Voice)

Even more difficult to notice is Harvey Fierstein's purely unseen HIMYM cameo as what Lily's voice becomes after the gang's smoking habits go off the rails in Season 5. However, in retrospect, who else but the Tony-winning Broadway actor, Mrs. Doubtfire star, and BROS cast member could have produced that distinct, gravelly drawl?

I don't know about you, but I have always found these lesser-known or basically hidden cameos on How I Met Your Mother more interesting than their A-list guest stars, such as Britney Spears, John Lithgow, or Maury Povich. I wonder if we will ever see any of these HIMYM characters appear on How I Met Your Father – Hulu’s in-universe spin-off – like Barney, Robin, and others already have. If they do, hopefully this list helps fans recognize them. 

After Resident Evil: The Final Chapter ended in 2016, Constantin Films had already been working on rebooting the popular video game franchise. And Now those plans have taken a big step forward. The team behind the Resident Evil reboot has assembled an awesome cast, including Robbie Amell, Kaya Scodelario, and more.

Writer and director Johannes Roberts, known for directing 47 Meters Down, has been tapped to direct the Resident Evil reboot. According to Deadline, he’s put together a doozy of a cast in hopes of harkening back to 1998 in Racoon City and staying more faithful to the original video game. Check out the cast:

Kaya Scodelario

Known primarily for her roles in The Maze Runner, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Crawl, Kaya Scodelario will be playing Claire Redfield in the Resident Evil reboot. For those that aren’t aware, Claire Redfield plays a big role against the Umbrella Corporation in the video game Resident Evil 2. So it's another major gig for the up and coming actress.

Hannah John-Kamen

You might recognize Hannah John-Kamen from her role as the Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp. She’ll be taking on the especially huge role of Jill Valentine, one of the original characters in the first Resident Evil video game. It's another foray into genre work, with her time in the MCU no doubt helping the upcoming filming process.

Robbie Amell

An actor who likely needs little introduction, Robbie Amell will play Claire Redfield’s older brother, Chris Redfield. Chris Redfield is also an early character in the video game series and continues on in several more games. Amell is best known for his role as in Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm in The CW's The Flash, with DC fans no doubt thrilled to see him join the Resident Evil cast.

Tom Hopper

Known for his roles as Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones and Luther Hargreevesin The Umbrella Academy, Tom Hopper has been cast as Dr. Albert Wesker in the new Resident Evil movie. In the video games, he’s a renowned virologist who eventually becomes a spy against Umbrella Corporation. He further proves that casting for the upcoming video game adaptation was going for experienced genre actors that will be familiar to audiences.

Avan Jogia

Of the actors on this list, Avan Jogia may have the most experience dealing with zombies, considering he played Berkeley in Zombieland: Double Tap. And for the Resident Evil reboot, he’ll be playing Leon S. Kennedy. That character takes a lead role in games like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, rounding out a strong cast of beloved characters.

Neal McDonough

A first-class working actor appearing in movies like Minority Report and Sonic the Hedgehog, Neal McDonough will play Dr. William Birkin in the reboot. Like Dr. Albert Wesker, his character is also another virologist that turns against Umbrella Corporation. Clearly the upcoming movie reboot is using plenty of iconic video game characters, rather than creating new ones from scratch.

To put it simply, this cast list looks pretty spot-on. Most fans will probably notice that Milla Jovovich's Alice is nowhere to be seen. Of course, she said goodbye in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but on top of that, her character was never in any of the video games in the first place. So perhaps the new movie will be a more faithful adaptation.

While it’s been known for a while that the first Resident Evil movie series strayed far from the original games that inspired it, this reboot looks like it’s really trying to be much more faithful to the source material, which is great news for fans of the games. Of course, the Resident Evil movie reboot isn’t supposed to be the only thing fans will be getting. Last year, there were reports that a Netflix TV series is also in the works. How that will connect (if at all) with the movies is unknown, but be sure to stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest.

In the world of cinematic and television superheroes, it’s not uncommon for actors to switch sides from DC to Marvel, or vice versa. Ryan Reynolds, for instance, infamously went from playing Green Lantern to being the “merc with a mouth,” Deadpool.

So, it only makes sense for actors that have been in one superhero camp to speculate on who they might play in the other camp. Recently The Flash’s Robbie Amell spoke with Comicbook.com and answered which roles he would like to play in the Marvel universe. Here’s what he said:

Robbie Amell has a strong point. Since Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, the MCU just got a whole lot bigger. However, when those characters will be brought in hasn’t been confirmed. Kevin Feige said they won’t be in Phase 4 of the MCU, but teased there is a chance they could be in Phase 5. That’s certainly plenty of time for Robbie Amell to try to snag an audition.

Robbie Amell’s statement that they’ll be rebooting Fantastic Four hasn’t exactly been confirmed. Still, that hasn’t stopped plenty of fans to speculate who might play well in those roles, including John Krasinski who has shared interested in being in it. Robbie Amell, for his part, would certainly fit well in the role of The Human Torch, considering he’s already played a fiery role in the past, DC's Firestorm.

Robbie Amell first appeared on The CW’s The Flash as Firestorm in 2014, but his role was fairly short. His character was killed off by the second season, but he has since made various appearances in the Arrowverse since.

This isn’t the first time Robbie Amell has been tied to other comic book characters, either. When Ben Affleck stepped away from being Batman, fans started to speculate who would put on the cape and cowl and landed on Robbie Amell, creating compelling fan art in the process. Of course, we now know that role eventually went to Robert Pattinson.

Robbie Amell stars in Amazon Prime’s charming new Greg Daniels comedy, Upload. The series follows Amell’s character Nathan as he adjusts to his new afterlife in Lake View, a premium digital space for the consciousness of the deceased. In the afterlife, Nathan finds love, mystery, friends, and starts to appreciate the importance of positive user reviews. Upload has a talented cast that includes Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards, and Kevin Bigley, and led by Robbie Amell, who brings humor, sincerity, and charisma to Nathan. Robbie Amell is one of the show’s biggest strengths.

For nearly 15 years, Robbie Amell has been building his acting resume--appearing in hit TV series, cult-favorites, and streaming sensations. Robbie Amell’s face might look a little familiar because he’s popped up in a few dozen projects, and you’ve likely seen him in one or two of them. (Or maybe because he looks a bit like his cousin, Stephen Amell.) To help you with the “Oh! Code 8 (2019)

Code 8 is a crowdfunded short film that became a feature length movie, and has been a hit on Netflix since its release. Code 8 stars cousins Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell as criminals with superpowers. Connor (Robbie Amell) gets involved with crime to try to save his mother. The film shows Connor as this vulnerable figure who doesn’t have the same corruption as those around him, but his determination to save his mother could easily push him over the line of no return. With Connor, Amell must walk the line between desperate times call for desperate measures and losing his moral compass. Connor keeps the audience rooting for him by being vulnerable and mission driven all Code 8.

The Flash (2014)

Most people recognize Robbie Amell from his stint on The Flash as Ronnie Raymond, the series’ original other half of Firestorm. He played Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker)’s fiance who is believed to be dead in the first season. It’s later revealed that he isn’t dead, instead he merged with Martin Stein (Victor Garber). Together, they become the single entity of Firestorm. Firestorm mainly works with Ronnie as the body and Stein as the mind. Eventually, the men learn to share their abilities and how to separate themselves.

The Duff (2015)

Robbie Amell stars opposite Mae Whitman in The Duff, a romantic teen comedy. Mae Whitman plays Bianca, who believes she’s the Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her two beautiful besties. She then enlists former childhood friend and popular jock Wesley (Robbie Amell) to help make her over. Obviously, Wesley and Bianca start to fall for each other. We’ve seen the popular guy-nerd girl combo in a ton of romance movies, especially the teen ones. The Duff is a little different in that it's not really the nerd makeover movie you’re expecting. Amell and Mae Whitman create genuine chemistry that makes you root for them, and actually grow to like Wesley--despite his early douche behavior. He develops into a suitable, likable love interest.

The Tomorrow People (2013)

The Tomorrow People is a short lived sci-fi superhero show starring Robbie Amell, Peyton List, Luke Mitchell, Aaron Yoo, and Madeleine Mantock. It follows a group of young adults who develop powers due to evolution. The show begins with Stephen (Robbie Amell) gaining powers and joining the Tomorrow People. He clashes with current leader John (Luke Mitchell), because of them both vying for the leader spot, and Stephen’s feelings for John’s girlfriend Cara (Peyton List).

The Babysitter (2017)

The Babysitter is a Netflix original horror comedy movie. It stars Samara Weaving, Judah Lewis, Hana Mae Lee, Robbie Amell, and Bella Thorne and is about a young boy Cole (Judah Lewis) who discovers that his babysitter and her friends are part of a demonic cult. Amell plays Max, one of Bee (Samara Weaving)’s friends. He’s a jock and part of the cult. Max is the typical good looking psychopath, but shows some honor when trying to kill Cole, so kind of a killer with a code.

When We First Met (2018)

When We First Met is a romantic comedy starring Adam DeVine, Alexandra Daddario, Shelley Hennig, and Robbie Amell. Adam DeVine plays Noah, a man in love with his best friend Avery (Alexandra Daddario). She’s about to marry Ethan (Robbie Amell), and Noah regrets not making a move on Avery when they first met. He gets a second chance (and like a million others) when he discovers a way to go back in time. Ethan is a nice guy who loves Avery. He’s a really likable person that makes it hard for Noah to truly hate him. Eventually, Noah sees that Ethan might be the right one for Avery.

True Jackson, VP (2008)

In the Nickelodeon series, True Jackson, VP, True Jackson (Keke Palmer) gets the opportunity of a lifetime when she’s hired to become the Vice President of the youth apparel division of a major clothing brand. It’s run by founder Max Madigan (Greg Proops). Robbie Amell plays Jimmy Madigan, Max’s nephew and True’s main love interest throughout the series. He also works for Max’s company Mad Stye, but as the mail deliverer. True and Jimmy at first are prohibited from dating because of the rules at Max, but eventually they’re allowed to date and work in the same office. This was Robbie Amell’s first lead TV role.

Picture This (2008)

Robbie Amell stars opposite Ashley Tisdale in this ABC Family (now called Freeform) romantic comedy. Mandy (Ashley Tisdale) is an unpopular girl subject to bullying by the popular girls, including her crush, Drew (Robbie Amell)’s girlfriend Lisa (Cindy Busby). Mandy and Drew start to fall for each other, and Lisa tries multiple ways to sabotage and stop their bonding. This simple romantic comedy works because of Amell’s way of building chemistry with all his co-stars, and Ashley Tisdale is no exception.

Life With Derek (2005)

This Canadian sitcom followed the McDonald and Venturi family as they became a blended family when George Venturi (John Ralston) married Nora McDonald (Joy Tanner). They both have children from previous relationships. Their children Casey (Ashley Leggat) and Derek (Michael Seater) are the main focus. Robbie Amell has a recurring role as Max Miller, one of Casey’s boyfriends. He’s a quarterback that may be a typical teen boy, so a little immature, but he’s a nice one that really cares about Casey.

Upload has recently been renewed for a second season, so fans of Amell will get a lot more of him soon. For those just getting to know the Canadian-American actor, then these are some good projects to start a Robbie Amell binge.

For anyone expecting creator Greg Daniels’ new series Upload to be extremely similar to his former creations The Office and the recently reunited Parks and Rec, those expectations were quickly pushing up daisies. An emotionally driven futuristic satire, Upload is bursting at the comedic seams, but also incorporates a serialized narrative concerning the attempted murder of Robbie Amell’s non-conspiratorial Nathan, and his bizarre struggles in a digital afterlife that hinges on consumerism.

Upload featured quite a few twists and turns in its ten installments, with each episode somewhat surprisingly ending on dour and/or suspenseful notes, including the Season 1 finale. Below, we’re going to discuss the cliffhanger manner in which Upload capped things off for the main characters, followed by insightful input from creator Greg Daniels and stars Robbie Amell, Andy Allo and Allegra Edwards.

How Upload Ended For Nathan, Nora And Ingrid

Episode 9 introduced the big update that cleaned up a lot of Lakeview's quirks, which meant that Nathan regained some truly damning memories early on in the Season 1 finale. It turns out his business partner Jamie was the sensible decision-maker regarding their freeware afterlife project Beyond, while Nathan was the shady and money-hungry one. The two backed away from a potentially lucrative agreement with the company run by Oliver Kannerman, but Ingrid's father honed in on Nathan and offered him a deal to sell off just the program's coding. Of course, Nathan's self-driving car accident seemingly occurred before he could get that lucrative sum.

Because he'd ended things with Ingrid over her tryst with Jamie, Nathan was transferred down to Lakeview's depressing 2GB floor, where his memory data was severely limited. Completely embarrassed and ashamed of his actions back in reality, Nathan initially pretended to have lost his memory of Nora. He later came clean about it, but that was after Nora got her own eyeful of Nathan's guilt, which obviously discolored her emotions.

That change of heart made things even more complicated when Nora got targeted by a freakish-looking murderer who was also at the site of Nathan's accident. The dude broke into her home and tried to kill her, though Nathan took care of him with a gruesome elevator incident. Without a real idea of who else might be out there trying to kill her, Nora decided to take a road trip with her casual sex partner Byron, who was clearly more into it than she was.

Meanwhile, Nathan remained stuck in Lakeview's dregs, having burned his data plan off through saving Nora's life. That is, until the finale's last-minute twist, in which Ingrid showed up in Nathan's 2GB room with the news that she'd uploaded her consciousness to Lakeview so that they could finally be together in one place. While that was certainly a shock, Nathan's fury over the situation wasn't surprising at all, since Ingrid may or may not have played a part in his death.

Why Upload Ended That Way, According To Creator Greg Daniels

Just about every project Greg Daniels previously worked on in his career was overwhelmingly comedic in nature, without hinging on deadly mysteries, and the upcoming Space Force looks to follow suit. In contrast, Upload's dark and sometimes stressful endings were always a jolt, and the finale dropped the biggest one yet, and all without actually giving audiences all of the pieces of the narrative's puzzles. When CinemaBlend spoke with Daniels, I had to question why he gave Upload such an ominous finale. Here's the first thing he said:

The more basic impulse for Greg Daniels here was to give audiences enough of the main storyline and central character development to hook everybody, while still hiding just enough information to keep building out the genre-bending story. While it technically seems like Upload could have been an anthology series, with future seasons focusing on some of the other quirky characters and relationships within Lakeview and the real world, Season 2 definitely sounds like its sights will stay on Nathan, Ingrid and Nora's otherworldly love triangle.

Here, Greg Daniels spoke further about giving Upload an open and not necessarily happy ending.

Earlier in our conversation, Greg Daniels did speak about someone referring to Upload as a combination of The Office and Harry Potter, so that comparative assessment is on point. (Which isn't to say we should start referring to Nora's attacker as He Who Must Not Be Named.) In any case, Daniels' point is that despite any presumptions that everything will eventually work out for Upload's protagonists, the goal was not to eradicate all of the "evil" by the end of Season 1. Or even to completely identify all of the evil entities, it seems.

How Robbie Amell And Andy Allo Felt About Upload’s Ending

Having succeeded in bringing Nathan and Nora's non-traditional relationship to life in such a believable way, stars Robbie Amell and Andy Allo obviously had some thoughts about how Upload closed out their respective stories, with Nathan a black-and-white statue and Nora a fugitive from her own life.

First up, here's what Robbie Amell had to say:

Robbie Amell had a wide spectrum of emotional reactions to Upload's finale, championing Greg Daniels' imagination while also lamenting Nathan and Nora's fractured relationship. At the same time, Amell was wholly amused by the idea that Ingrid has now joined him in the non-corporeal world, even though it opens up a whole new world of complications for his future with Nora, assuming there is one. Here's how Andy Allo felt about it:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Andy Allo was on the same page when it came to Season 1's conclusion, which rewarded a lot of Nora's detective work (as well as her evasion skills), but didn't give the character exactly what she wanted. My main hope for the character's future is that Greg Daniels and Amazon reach an agreement to create a series of shorts featuring heightened moments from Nora and Byron's trip.

What Allegra Edwards Thinks About Ingrid’s Big Reveal And Her Future With Nathan

As much as Upload dedicated its first season to evolving Nathan from self-centered to empathetic, the show managed to take the even more egocentric Ingrid down a similar journey of enlightenment. Granted, Ingrid's family is a pack of pride-eating predators, making it quite reasonable for her to want to shift away from them and closer to Nathan's family, including his adorable niece Nevaeh. The two characters' splintered relationship made her last-minute appearance all the more unpredictable and ridiculous, and star Allegra Edwards was absolutely pumped for that twist. In her words:

Considering Amazon hasn't made a decision about Upload Season 2 yet, Allegra Edwards obviously couldn't speak to what will definitely happen in these characters' futures. That said, she's already thinking about the possibilities, and is downright thrilled at the idea of engaging more with the characters that Robbie Amell's Nathan interacts with on an episodic basis. I can definitely see Ingrid and Luke making quite the must-watch pairing, given their vastly different wavelengths, but that probably depends on how her relationship with Nathan develops. She may very well become his and Nora's worst enemy in the potential second season, assuming Nathan gets enough data restored to even notice.

While speaking with Allegra Edwards (along with co-stars Zainab Johnson and Kevin Bigley), I had to get her take on exactly why Ingrid was uploaded to Lakeview, beyond any mere longings to be with Nathan. Given the briefness of the scene, audiences never learned the circumstances through which Ingrid's body was sacrificed so that her consciousness could live on, which left the question of how else it might have connected to the plot to have Nathan killed. Here's what the actress told me:

Personally, I'm all into the idea that Ingrid took herself out of the life equation in large part as a big "fuck you" to her greedy and cartoonishly hateful father. I'm not sure that would have been the most ideal way to tick him off, in the way that choosing another company besides Horizen would have, but it would be a statement nonetheless. However, it might be more interesting narratively if Greg Daniels and his creative team have more enigmatic reasons for why Ingrid was uploaded at that point.

For his first big TV project since The Office came to its delightful end (ahead of its dominant rise as a streaming must-have), Parks and Rec co-creator Greg Daniels crafted the cynically hopeful Upload for Amazon Prime Video. Starring the Arrowverse's Robbie Amell and R&B/soul/funk musician Andy Allo, Upload takes place in the near-future, centering on a company that created a high-end "afterlife" where people can store their consciousnesses before they die. It's a show that mixes poignant moments of humanity with digital magic in hilarious and unexpected ways, which some might call a hybrid of The Office and Harry Potter.

In fact, someone did call it that, and Greg Daniels is a fan of that notion. He spoke with CinemaBlend ahead of Upload's premiere on Amazon, and shared his thumbs up for the Harry Potter and Office comparison, and talked about how the new show fits in the world of TV workplace comedies.

Given that Upload tells a fairly serialized story about the mysterious circumstances behind the death of Robbie Amell's Nathan (among other plot points), it definitely stands apart from other shows in Greg Daniels' career. That said, it does share some similarities with The Office in that Nora's work situation is a bit over the top, and the boss in that scenario (played by Episodes' Andrea Rosen) is overbearing and often inappropriate. Plus, there's a "will they / won't they" element of romance for Nathan and Nora, who transcends her customer service label and develops a real relationship with Nathan, despite him being engaged to another woman. (Jim & Pam & Roy, anyone?)

Upload may not be strictly "magical," but its sci-fi-esque afterlife setting does allow for some reality-eschewing circumstances that feel pretty magical. But to hint at the show's Harry Potter-ness, the Lakeview hotel set-up is akin to Hogwarts, the show features framed pictures that move, and Nathan does get a powerful wand of sorts at one point during the first ten episodes. As well, Upload features an animal that other characters communicate with, though it's not exactly the same as Parseltongue or anything, and it's a dog.

Beyond, that comparison, Greg Daniels also talked about how Upload also serves an extension of the brighter and quirkier Parks and Recreation. In his words:

For a prime example of how Upload works in relation to Parks and Recreation, the hyper-corporate and consumer-friendly Lakeview where Nathan lives (so to speak) is programmed to be as chipper and positive as Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope, while the real work where Nora lives is as stark and sterile as Nick Offerman's Ron Swanson, while also sometimes being as amusingly annoying as Jerry. One particular character is comparable to Aziz Ansari's Tom Haverford, too.

Considering a good majority of the show's scenes take place in a heaven-like setting, there are lots of big and small visual gags that appear at any given moment. From technical glitches to manufactured star displays to excess body parts, Upload isn't afraid of diving into absurd comedy when the situations calls for it, which usually means more complicated CGI is needed.

To that end, Greg Daniels compares his time with Upload to his earlier work on animated comedies such as King of the Hill and The Simpsons.

Beyond the aforementioned Robbie Amell and Andy Allo, Upload also stars Sirens' Kevin Bigley as Nathan's Lakeview pal Luke, Briarpatch's Allegra Edwards as Nathan's girlfriend Ingrid, 100 Humans' Zainab Johnson as Nora's coworker Aleesha, Silicon Valley's Chris Williams as Nora's dad and the creator's son Owen Daniels as the uncomfortably amusing A.I. Guy. (The latter also served as a writer.)

Greg Daniels also has another show on the way in the sci-fi realm, as he reteamed with Steve Carrell and Ben Schwartz for the upcoming Netflix comedy Space Force which will be out this summer. While The Office has remained on everyone's minds thanks to John Krasinski's YouTube series and the Office Ladies podcast from Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, the full Parks and Rec cast also got together for a video reunion for NBC. While isolation has led to the postponement of various films and television shows set to be released in 2020, there’s been a lot of room for indie projects to thrive in the vacuum. Recently, it seems that a lot of these types of movies, like the sci-fi thriller Code 8, starring Robbie & Stephen Amell, have gotten to have their day in the sun as huge hits on Netflix.

But the road to this film’s fame started with an Indigogo campaign and a short movie that built the foundation for it all to take off. Not only did the Amell cousins act as producers and co-stars in director Jeff Chan’s ambitious project involving a revolution of the superpowered, but Code 8 also had a pretty exciting path that just kept climbing upward.

Robbie Amell reflected on this through his Twitter account when the film went to #1 on Netflix's top 10 feature, as he recalled these steps Code 8 followed into online stardom:

In honor of Code 8’s huge and warm welcome to Netflix’s streaming library, let’s take a look at how it all happened, starting with the beginning.

Code 8 Begins As A Short Film With Robbie & Stephen Amell Involved

Back in the summer of 2015, Robbie & Stephen Amell teamed up with Jeff Chan to produce a 10-minute short film that would be the basis for Code 8. The film co-starred Fast Saga fan-favorite Sung Kang and imagined a world where superpowers were not only a naturally occurring thing, but were the subject of compulsory registration. But a very familiar story was about to get a new lease on life.

The short went viral on the internet, and sure enough the plan went into Phase 2. Now that Chan and the Amell cousins had proven the world was ready for Code 8, it was time to make a movie.

An Indiegogo Campaign Raises $2.5 Million To Put Code 8 Into Production

The next step for Code 8 was to head to Indiegogo in order to secure funds. There, Robbie Amell would post a campaign that was looking to raise $200,000 to produce the feature-length version of the film.

By the time it was all was said and done, $2.5 million had raised by over 30,000 backers who were passionate seeing the movie come to life. Code 8 was shot through 2017, in Toronto, Ontario and would be shown at backer exclusive screenings and film festivals in 2019.

By The End Of 2019, Code 8 Hits The Big Screen And VOD

With the hype machine firmly in place and a distribution deal secured from indie studio XYZ Films, Code 8 made its grand debut on December 13, 2019, in a limited theatrical and VOD release. The movie had grossed roughly $150,298 to its credit, but its best days would come in the months that followed.

One could even say that with the internet fanbase and cadre of Indiegogo backers at its side, Code 8’s greatest success was bound to happen, and it would only take four short months to arrive.

Netflix Debuts Code 8 To Huge Success

The final brick in the path to Code 8’s staggering success came on April 11th, 2020 when the film was debuted among the various titles to come online this past month. By April 13th, the film was #1 on the Trending Now tab, with its current standings keeping the film in the top 10 at #8.

As it has for films that have found their fortunes on Netflix, the section of trending titles helped raise awareness for a film that might not have otherwise gotten it. And with Code 8 getting a series pickup from the hot new streaming platform Quibi before this big Netflix debut even happened, it looks like Robbie & Stephen Amell won’t be leaving this superpowered world any time soon.

Sometimes, everything just falls into place with a movie like Code 8. What started as a short film made out of love (with the help of fans, friends, and family) has now turned into a potential franchise. There’s no telling where things could go should the Quibi series hit as well as the feature film did on Netflix. Still, there’s absolutely no doubt that without the people who stuck with it from the beginning, none of this would have happened.

While Robbie Amell’s stint on The Flash was rather short-lived, he at least got to share the same superhero universe as his cousin, Arrow star Stephen Amell. However, acting isn’t the only thing the cousins have shared in their lifetime. The Flash vet recently revealed how he used the elder Amell’s ID to go drinking, proving there really is nothing like family.

Though the two have distinctive features, the Amell cousins do share a close resemblance to each other and have been mistaken for brothers (I am guilty of this). In a recent appearance on A Little Late with Lilly Singh, the host asked Robbie Amell if people have ever confused the two of them before. The actor admits that they did for a while, and it was all because Robbie Amell took his older cousin’s ID to get into bars. Here’s what he told host Lilly Singh:

The real kicker is that Robbie Amell never gave his cousin back the ID, which Stephen Amell still looks kind of salty about after all these years. The younger Amell claims that he still “has it somewhere” and that it’ll likely be “worth something someday.”

Considering that Stephen Amell’s career seems to be on an upward trajectory, with the actor following up his eight-season Arrow run with the Starz wrestling drama Heels, I’m sure it really will be worth a lot of money one day. On The Flash, Robbie Amell played Ronnie Raymond, Caitlin Snow’s husband and one half of the superhero duo called Firestorm. Though Ronnie died at the end of the show’s first season, the actor has reprised his role at various points in the series, most notably when the characters visited Earth-2 and met the evil version of Ronnie’s Firestorm in Season 2.

Outside of the Arrow-verse, Robbie and Stephen Amell co-starred together in the 2016 short film Code 8. Ever since 2012, actor Stephen Amell has been unequivocally attached to the DC Comic-verse as Arrow's bearded vigilante, otherwise known as Oliver Queen. That era is ending relatively soon, though, with Arrow coming to a close in early 2020. But don't expect the emotional Amell to lazily ruminate on his superhero glory days. After already landing a new show a few months back, Amell is now set to co-lead a second new TV series that will co-star his Arrow-verse-friendly cousin Robbie Amell.

Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell are set to reunite in the upcoming series Code 8, which is an episodic spinoff of the sci-fi thriller that the two actors made together. (It will be released on Friday, December 13, which isn't ominous at all.) Interestingly enough, the Code 8 series was picked up by the in-development streaming service Quibi, as founded by Hollywood producer and former Disney studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg.

The Code 8 film was crowdfunded through Indiegogo, based on the quality and popularity of a 2016 short film of the same name that the two Amell cousins filmed and executive produced. The basic story is that 4% of the world's population is born with supernatural power of differing kinds, but they are feared by the public far more than they are glorified.

In the world of the film, where drones and guardians monitor everything, Robbie Amell plays Conner Reed, a man with just such abilities, with Stephen Amell taking the role of Garrett, a drug dealer who also happens to be telekinetic. Garett gets Conner involved in the drug life so the latter can attempt to earn money for his sick mother.

Quibi's Code 8 series will take place years after everything that went down in the movie, according to Deadline. Amell's Conner Reed will be an ex-con when the season starts off, and he'll be forced to reteam with Garrett in order to dismantle a city's trafficking ring being run by high-profile citizens and corrupt cops.

It's intriguing that Quibi so quickly got invested in Code 8 even before the film was released to the public, since it's fairly unknown just how popular the project will even be when it hits theaters. However, the company does have proof of fans' faith in the Code 8 movie, considering how successful the crowdfunding campaign was. Though Stephen and Robbie Amell were initially only looking for $200,000 to fund the feature, more than $2.4 million got raised, with over 27,000 donors spreading the love. Code 8 will bring the director and writer of the feature back for the TV series. Jeff Chan, who helmed the previous iterations, will get behind the camera once more, while Chris Pare will be penning the series' scripts.

For those unfamiliar, Quibi's claim to fame is that it's producing 100% shortform entertainment series with episodes that will last from 3-15 minutes. Launching on April 6, the company has already lined up a ton of exciting projects to attract early subscribers. Stephen Spielberg is writing a horror anthology show called Spielberg's After Dark, Justin Timberlake is getting a docu-series, Reno 911! is getting revived, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Meanwhile, Stephen Amell is also set to follow up Arrow with the Starz drama Heels, which will take place within the world of professional wrestling. Given Amell's past with the WWE, it's a strangely natural avenue for the actor to travel down next. Now we know that won't be the only thing he's got cooking in 2020. That show will also star Alexander Ludwig, whose show Vikings is also ending soon.

While its theatrical reach might not go so far, Code 8 will make its debut on Friday, December 13. And remember to keep an eye out for Amell's final performance as Oliver Queen when Arrow returns to The CW for it last episodes in 2020.

The CW has a lot of great DC shows in its roster, although I believe few measure up to the quality of The Flash. That's largely thanks to its stories and engaging characters, both of which has created some pretty great moments in the series. What happened to these character actors when their run was over, and where can people who loved these Flash cast members find them elsewhere?

As it turns out, a bulk of the former Flash cast has also made waves elsewhere, and are working on some pretty interesting new projects. Here's what many of them are up to now, and how they're faring after their run on The Flash.

Rick Cosnett - Eddie Thawne

Iris' ex and the ancestor of the man who would become Eobard Thawne, Rick Cosnett's Eddie Thawne made the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to stop Reverse Flash once and for all. His grand plan didn't quite work out, unfortunately, but Eddie got good guy points all the same, even if shooting himself was a bit extreme. Honestly, couldn't he have just scheduled a vasectomy?

Rick Cosnett played Eddie once more in Season 3, but The Flash character has been into other projects while the show continued. He's been in the indie film circuit, and even had a guest spot on NCIS in 2018. In 2019 he's got two independent films he's a part of: indie film The Wrong Husband and Tu Me Manques. He has no TV roles to speak of, but this veteran has the experience to jump into just about any show.

Keiynan Lonsdale - Wally West

Oh Kid Flash, we hardly knew ye. OK, we did get a solid chunk of time with Wally, but it felt like we were only scratching the surface of his superhero tenure before he left the show. It hurt even more because the writers said having two speedsters made stories too difficult to write, and then they went on and introduced more recurring speedsters in future seasons.

The same year he last appeared on The Flash, Keiynan Lonsdale also appeared in DC's Legends of Tomorrow and in the film Love, Simon. In addition, he released some music he had been working on, and appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars. Next up, he's set to appear in a Netflix film dance movie Work It, and is a part of a project in pre-production by the name of Weetzie Bat, based on a popular character created by YA author Francesca Lia Block. He still may return to The Flash yet, although nothing has been revealed yet.

Neil Sandilands - Clifford DeVoe

He was The Flash's first non-speedster big bad, and one of the best The Flash characters that have appeared, in my opinion. Neil Sandilands' arrogant and manipulative Clifford DeVoe made for a fantastic addition to the season, and one of the best seasons of the series to date.

Since DeVoe's defeat, Neil Sandilands is part of an upcoming movie that features an actress CW fans may know well. Sandilands is starring alongside Riverdale's Camila Mendes in the indie film Coyote Lake. He also has two other appearances on the movie front on the way: ahorror film called Marfa and a sci-fi romp titled Day Six.

Robbie Amell - Ronnie Raymond

Stephen Amell's cousin Robbie landed a sweet gig as the Firestorm of The Flash, although his run in the series was comparatively short compared to other heroes. His last appearance happened in 2017 where he wasn't technically Ronnie, but a manifestation of the Speed Force looking to test Barry. Honestly, that's a pretty good run for someone who spent a majority of his mentions on the series as fake dead and actually dead.

In between his appearances on The Flash, Robbie Amell scored a role as special agent Kyd Miller on X-Files, and played Kevin on A Series Of Unfortunate Events. He's also had some roles on the Netflix film circuit, and can be seen in When We First Met, The Babysitter, and ARQ. He's also appeared in non Netflix-bound movies like Max, and with projects on the horizon, it's a safe bet this Flash character will be seen more in the future.

Wentworth Miller - Leonard Snart

The Flash has featured several characters fans have grown fond of, but few have been as beloved as Wentworth Miller's Leonard Snart. Miller's interpretation of the character was well-received, and over time the villain and rival of Barry Allen became an anti-hero of sorts via team-ups and his run on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The Arrow-verse used him as much as Miller would allow, and that went on until he signaled his official exit in 2018.

Since then, Wentworth Miller hasn't appeared on television or movies, but rest assured something is on the horizon. Specifically, Miller is said to be a part of the presently in-development Season 6 of Prison Break, where he would potentially with his other Arrow-verse costar Dominic Purcell. Too bad they can't bring the heat and cold gun with them right?

Victor Garber - Martin Stein

Dr. Martin Stein was one-half of the hero Firestorm under two different heroes, and while he spent more time on Legends of Tomorrow, he's still a Flash character at heart. He's also one of the more shocking Arrow-verse deaths, as his exit during "Crisis On Earth-X" was a tremendously sad -- but also fitting -- exit for such a cool character and great actor.

As one would expect, there were no shortages of shows and projects wanting to scoop Victor Garber up after his stint in the Arrow-verse. He's been on The Orville, Power, and Netflix's Tales of the City. He also has a fair number of film projects on the way as well, so The Flash fans have plenty of options to follow Garber even further.

Violett Beane - Jesse Quick

Violett Beane hopped onto the scene as Earth-2 Harrison Wells' daughter, and eventually became the speedster known as Jesse Quick. To be clear, Jesse is still kicking around the Arrow-verse, and was even seen last season and aided Barry in getting rid of a bomb. With that said, she's not around nearly as much as she once was, and one has to wonder how many more episodes she'll appear in.

Especially as Beane continues to snatch up roles. Since she became a lesser presence on The Flash, Beane has had roles on The Resident, God Friended Me, and was in The Flay and Truth Or Dare. God Friended Me's renewal for Season 2 probably means The Flash character won't be popping back on the show in any major recurring role anytime soon. That said, it feels there's a chance she could pop in for "Crisis On Infinite Earths," but we'll see.

Teddy Sears - Zoom

Teddy Sears first fooled The Flash fans by posing as Jay Garrick, but eventually the ruse was uncovered and it was revealed he was actually Zoom aka Hunter Zolomon. He wanted all the speed, nearly got it, but then Barry bested him and he was consumed by the Time Wraiths. Sears briefly reprised the role in the 100th episode, but beyond the actor behind The Flash character has moved on to other things.

Specifically, he landed a recurring gig on Chicago Fire that has evolved into a pretty saucy storyline. Audiences will probably see him there for at least the 2019-2020 fall season, and he's also going to be a part of Ryan Murphy's upcoming series The Politician. Odds are we won't see him on The Flash anytime soon, although with time travel, nothing is ever really out of the question.

Tom Felton - Julian Albert

Season 3 of The Flash had many fans asking when the speedster seasons would cease, but others will definitely remember it for the recurring role played by former Harry Potter actor Tom Felton. Felton played the cynical, Julian Albert, who went from unintentional villain under mind control to a useful member of the team in no time flat. It seemed future plans were in motion for The Flash character, but alas, he exited rather unceremoniously.

Since Tom Felton's exit, he's done a few movies, and got a starring role in the YouTube Premium series Origin, which was cancelled earlier in 2019. Felton has signaled since then he'd be up to return to The Flash, although there's been no word whether or not the show has actually explored bringing Julian Albert back. With Cisco Ramon potentially on the way out, there may be an opening at S.T.A.R. Labs!

Jessica Camacho - Gypsy

Jessica Camacho's Gypsy hopped onto the scene as a bounty hunter in search of the deceptive-but-still-lovable H.R. She did eventually stop her pursuit of Team Flash's short-lived Wells, and found a loving relationship with a hero with a similar skill set, aka Cisco Ramon. Unfortunately, love fades and the two drifted apart, and The Flash character hasn't been seen a whole lot since then.

Jessica Camacho spent some time post-Flash on NBC's cancelled Taken, but has since moved on to another interesting series alongside another former alumni of The Flash. Camacho will play Michelle Vargas in the upcoming Katee Sackoff Netflix series Another Life, which will give both women another chance to strut their stuff in a sci-fi setting. Camacho is also a part of a pilot for a potential series called All Rise, so maybe we'll hear more on that in the future.

Katee Sackhoff - Amunet Black

Speaking of Katee Sackhoff, her Amunet Black may just be the most criminally-underutilized of The Flash characters. Sure Amunet Black had a presence on The Flash primarily as a part of Caitlin's Season 4 storyline, but she was always a side villain in performances that screamed she needed Big Bad status. She was last seen in Season 4, although she's been mentioned a handful of times in Season 5 since then, which means she may one day return.

It may be a minute, though, as Katee Sackhoff is set to lead Netflix's Another Life, and is also reprising her role as Bo-Katan Kryze in the upcoming new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Those are the two main spots audiences will be able to catch her on, provided she isn't set to appear on The Flash again. The series left things open for it to happen, but whether it will actually happen we can only speculate.

Chris Klein - Cicada

Chris Klein is the latest Big Bad actor to exit The Flash, and probably the one case in the series where the term "Big Bad" is used loosely. While Klein's Cicada was touted as the season's main villain, he quickly took a backseat when Eobard Thawne was revealed to be manipulating Nora, and suffered an early exit after his niece from the future killed him and took over as Cicada.

Now that Chris Klein is out of The Flash, he's headed into something potentially big over at Netflix. He'll be appearing in the Sweet Magnolias series for Netflix, which is an adaptation of the novels written by Sherryl Woods. Those that fancy a little romance may want to check him out as Bill Townsend when that premieres, or could also wait and see him in the film Intensive Care, which is in pre-production.

Jessica Parker Kennedy - Nora West-Allen

Barry and Iris' daughter had a very tragic exit at the end of Season 5, as the season finale basically erased her from existence. We're not sure if The Flash character will return or not, but given the false exits of characters we've seen in the past, it wouldn't be surprising. We may also never see her again, hence her inclusion on the list.

Jessica Parker Kennedy doesn't have a ton of projects on the way, although her IMDB lists a movie she's in, Business Ethics, is in post-production. This could mean her return to The Flash is happening, although bringing Nora back so soon after her exit would diminish how devastating it was to begin with. We'll just have to wait and see what The Flash has planned!

What about The Flash alum Robbie Amell? Artist Boss Logic took to his account to showcase his early pick for the new Batman with a stylized noir edit of the 30-year-old actor fitting nicely in the suit and looking like a convincing Bruce Wayne. The artist based his pick on the film’s reported search for a younger actor to take on the role.

Comic fans will best recognize Robbie Amell from his stint as Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm, and love interest to Danielle Panabaker’s Caitlin Snow, in The Flash's early years. The actor has also starred in a slew of Netflix original films including ARQ, The Babysitter, When We First Met and starred in 2015 high-school set comedy The Duff. He is also cousin to Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen, a.k.a. The Green Arrow, on the CW’s Arrow, which is currently on its seventh season.

So not only does heroism run in the family, Robbie Amell has starred in a DC property, although on a smaller scale. The actor certainly has the Bruce Wayne look and has added quite a few diverse projects to his resume in the past few years. Most onlookers on this Twitter image couldn’t see the appeal of him as Batman… some pointing out they saw him more as Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond or Nightwing, while others loved the idea.

The actor is signed on to star next in Amazon’s sci-fi romance series Upload from Parks and Recreation and The Office creator Greg Daniels, which is about a man who can choose his own afterlife after an untimely death. Robbie Amell will also star this year in a sci-fi film with cousin Stephen Amell called Code 8. Both projects are currently in post-production, so maybe he's available?

The DCEU’s The Batman was penned and will be directed by War of the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves. He has been attached to the project since February 2017, following Ben Affleck’s exit from the film as writer/director and now star.

Matt Reeves recently said his vision for the upcoming film is a “noir Batman tale” that will have the iconic character “in his detective mode." The Batman will also feature a "rogues gallery" of villains, including possibly The Penguin.

The X-Files returned to the small screen in 2016 more than a decade after its original run came to an end, and the ratings for the revival proved that there was still an audience for Mulder and Scully. Season 10 ended on a killer cliffhanger that left fans with more questions than answers, and it came as very good news when Fox announced that Season 11 was on the way with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back as Mulder and Scully. Now, it has been confirmed that two other actors will be reprising their roles from Season 10: Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose will be back as well.

Yes, Season 11 is officially bringing back the FBI's other set of agents comprised of a redheaded skeptic and a believer with an unusual first name. Lauren Ambrose will return as Agent Liz Einstein, the medical doctor who shares Dana Scully's affection for scientific evidence, and Robbie Amell will return as Agent Kyd Miller, who has the open-mindedness of Fox Mulder. TVLine confirms that both will appear in the 2018 revival, although it's not yet known how many episodes will feature the duo.

Rumor had it back in 2016 that Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose were going to be introduced in Season 10 in order to launch an X-Files spinoff with Miller and Einstein as the lead agents. The two did get a big episode in Season 10, but no news ever broke of a spinoff in the works. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's willingness to return for Season 11 may have played a part, as there can be no doubt that the iconic Mulder and Scully are more of a draw to viewers than newbies Miller and Einstein. Perhaps Miller and Einstein's return in Season 11 is a sign of Fox truly considering a spinoff.

Then again, given that we don't know how many episodes will feature Miller and Einstein, it's possible that they'll only be back for the payoff of the big cliffhanger of the Season 10 finale. The good news is that Season 11 will run for ten episodes rather than only the six of Season 10. If The X-Files tries to give Miller and Einstein a backdoor pilot, there will still be plenty of episodes reserved for the adventures of Mulder and Scully.

Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose aren't the only supporting players who will return in Season 11. Annabeth Gish revealed last week that she would be back as Monica Reyes, and Mitch Pileggi will reprise his role as the long-suffering Skinner. William B. Davis will likely be back as the Cigarette-Smoking Man for at least the Season 11 premiere, although no announcements have yet been made. We'll have to wait and see.

The X-Files will return for Season 11 at some point in early 2018, and filming has already commenced. There are some significant changes taking place over at DC right now, and the latest development is arguably one of the most interesting ones that we have seen in months. Decades after his initial introduction into DC Comics, Dick Grayson's older alter ego of Nightwing will finally make his way to the silver screen for a solo movie of his very own under the direction of The LEGO Batman Movie's Chris McKay. It's a phenomenal development for the superhero genre as a whole, and for longtime fans of the greater Batman mythos, it's the culmination of years of anticipation.

On that note, we have taken it upon ourselves to put together a list of well-known actors that could easily step into the role of Dick Grayson. Some of these actors are primarily known for their work on television, while others have experienced long careers in film, but all of them have proven that they have what it takes to take on Bruce Wayne's first son. Now let's kick this off with an actor who is no stranger to the DC Universe.

Robbie Amell

While Robbie Amell's cousin Stephen has seen great success portraying the dark and brooding Oliver Queen on The CW's Arrow, his take on Firestorm (and Deathstorm) has been somewhat hit or miss. However, I think The Flash actor may be able to find redemption taking on an entirely new DC hero as Dick Grayson. Robbie Amell certainly has the look to portray Nightwing, and (at least compared to his cousin) he plays whimsical and charming better than he does dark and somber. If DC wants a lighthearted Dick to counterbalance Bruce's overwhelming darkness, then Mr. Amell seems like a perfect candidate for the job; all they need to do is swap out the Firestorm Matrix for a set of Escrima sticks and a domino mask.

Dev Patel

Look, there are characters out there whose race plays a prominent role in the stories that they inhabit. Luke Cage is a perfect example of that idea. However, Dick Grayson is simply not one of those characters. Dev Patel is currently riding high off of an Oscar nomination for his work on Lion, and you would be hard-pressed to find a more inherently versatile and talented young actor working in Hollywood today. Beyond that, puberty was very kind to Mr. Patel since the days of Slumdog Millionaire, and he has clearly developed the physically imposing stature necessary to portray a badass vigilante like Dick Grayson. Nightwing may not necessarily look like Dev Patel in the comics, but that's no reason to reject him out of hand

Steven Yeun

If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, then you already know that Steven Yeun's ill-fated Glenn was the Dick Grayson of Rick Grimes' group of survivors. He was strong, loyal and eternally optimistic up until the moment his brains were bashed in with a baseball bat. Those qualities could easily carry over into a silver screen portrayal of Nightwing, and Steve Yeun's possible version of this comic book icon could easily become a perfect counterpoint to the darker and more brooding Batman that Ben Affleck plays in this world. Oh, and for those of you who are about to make comments about an Asian-American Nightwing, please refer to the previous post about Dev Patel representing a good choice as well.

Garrett Hedlund

Garrett Hedlund is definitely one of the older entries on this list, but his work in films like Tron: Legacy, Pan and Eragon prove that he's entirely comfortable performing in effects-driven genre films. Despite his blonde hair, we could easily see him stepping into the black suit of an older and more seasoned Nightwing alongside the aging Batman of the DCEU. Beyond that, his advanced age would make him absolutely perfect to take over the cape and cowl if DC and Warner Bros. Ever decide to go the extra mile and kill the silver screen version of Bruce Wayne. The odds of that happening are slim, but then again, we never thought we would see a Nightwing movie in the first place.

Keith Stanfield

Out of all the actors present on this list, 25-year-old Keith Stanfield probably has the most diverse resume. He has proven himself as an insanely capable dramatic actor with his work on films like Selma and Short Term 12, but his work as Darius in Donald Glover's Atlanta has shown how comfortable he can be in a bizarre comedy. That type of range is essential when adapting someone like Dick Grayson because the eldest Robin is one of the most emotionally rich characters in the entire DC mythos. He doesn't just brood like his mentor, he airs his grievances and emotes like a real human being. Stanfield is an exciting up-and-comer, and Nightwing feels like a perfect fit for his particular set of talents.

Dylan O'Brien

Young adult franchises are a dime a dozen these days, and they're usually pretty bad. However, what genuinely sets The Maze Runner (as well as the sequel, The Scorch Trials) apart from the competition is the sheer amount of commitment Dylan O'Brien brings to the role of Thomas. The 25-year-old up-and-comer throws himself into all of his stunt work, and he is one of the on-screen runners this side of Tom Cruise. Throw in the fact that he's a legitimately talented actor who can handle raw and gritty dramas (look no further than Deepwater Horizon for an example of that) and he seems like the perfect candidate to take over this role and add a much-needed youthful edge to the DCEU.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Aaron Taylor-Johnson often feels like the next Chris Evans when it comes to superhero movies. He's an insanely skilled actor with plenty of comic book movie experience, but none of his superhero performances seem like the one he's going to be remembered for yet. That could easily change if he signs on to play Nightwing in the DCEU. Johnson's work as Kick-Ass and Quicksilver feel like a perfect recipe for a dark, yet charming version of Nightwing, and at 26-years-old he's the perfect age to take on the role for a long tenure. Aside from that, with his recent Golden Globe win for his work on Nocturnal Animals, he could bring the appropriate amount of prestige to this universe.

Character death never necessarily means that an actor is gone from The Flash. Some characters return to the land of the living when Barry messes with the timeline. Other characters stay dead but are replaced by their identical doppelgangers. Reverse Flash even posed as a dead Harrison Wells for the better part of a Season 1. The show will soon bring back a character who has died a few times in a few different ways. Robbie Amell is slated to return to The Flash as Ronnie Raymond.

Robbie Amell has signed on to play Ronnie in an episode that will air at some point this winter. Details are currently scarce, according to EW. Still, it sounds like he'll be back in a guest star capacity rather than as a regular or recurring. However it happens, his reappearance should bring a great deal of emotional upheaval to Caitlin Snow. Although she moved on from her husband's death surprisingly quickly in Season 2 when Jay Garrick/Hunter Zolomon showed up to woo her, Season 3 has shown that she's not entirely over losing Ronnie.

There are a few ways that Ronnie could be back. We already saw the death of Earth-2 Ronnie back in Season 2, but characters from both Earth-3 and Earth-38 have played parts on The Flash in Season 3. The version of Ronnie who turns up in the upcoming winter episode could simply be a Ronnie from an Earth other than 1 or 2. Given that Earth-1 Ronnie was a hero and Earth-2 Ronnie was a villain, it could be interesting to see if the Ronnie of yet another Earth is a good guy or a bad guy.

Another way for Robbie Amell to reprise Ronnie Raymond would simply be as a hallucination or dream of Caitlin's. The good Dr. Snow has had a rough time in Season 3 thanks to Flashpoint giving her dangerous meta powers. If her inner turmoil continues to build, it wouldn't come as a huge surprise if she starts imagining or dreaming of her dead husband, and Robbie Amell could easily drop in and out if he's simply an imaginary version of Ronnie.

A third way for Ronnie to return to The Flash would be via a reveal that he never actually died in the Flashpoint timeline. Caitlin seems convinced that he passed away, and we've seen no indication that he's still alive, but The Flash might pull a "Gotcha!" and bring him back. He already came back from a presumed death back in Season 1; maybe he could do the same against all odds in Season 3. The Flash breaks its own rules all the time, and it's possible that bringing Ronnie Raymond back to life will be one more instance.

Personally, I'm hoping for a version of Ronnie from another Earth for one simple reason: he dies a lot, and I don't think the show will be able to escape the fact that Ronnie Raymond dying has become kind of a running joke. He was believed dead after the particle accelerator disaster in Season 1, then actually died in the Season 2 premiere, then died again shortly after his introduction on Earth-2. Caitlin barely even mourned him after his first death. It could be intriguing to see how Team Flash would react to yet another death of Ronnie Raymond.

These days the only actors working are the ones who are currently making comic book properties, and the ones who aren't doing it yet. However, nobody has really crossed over from one big brand to the other. One actor is ready to be the first. Robbie Amell, who played the original Firestorm on CW's The Flash says he'd be more than happy to work within the MCU if given the chance.

To be fair, Robbie Amell laughed when making the comment about having no loyalties. It doesn't appear his comments to Comicbook.com come from any actual animosity from the fact that he's been killed off on The Flash. Rather, he's just making the point that, as an actor, the politics behind the characters isn't what he considers. He just wants to play a good character in a good movie, and the MCU certainly has that. While we're sure Amell has enjoyed his time working within DC's universe, if you limit yourself only because of imaginary boundaries between particular projects then you just cut yourself off from work.

If we consider the shared universe that DC has built on television there are technically three different major comic book franchises between film and television. Thus far no major actors have crossed the lines. Everybody who has a significant role on one of them has yet to be cast in any others. Even the actors who have been cast in more than one role, like Alfre Woodard who had a cameo in captain America: Civil War before showing up on Luke Cage, have stayed within their particular sphere.

At some point, we will see those line crossed. As the MCU and DCEU expand at exponential rates they will simply need more actors to play the roles. It's unclear if there's even been a concerted effort by one side to not cast actors who have appeared in the others' films but eventually you're just going to want a good actor to play a part and te fact that they also played a different superhero is going to become less important.

While The Flash isn’t as known for character deaths as some of DC Comics’ other TV shows, a few well-liked characters have been killed off of the series. One of those characters is Ronnie Raymond, the dude who played one half of Firestorm early on in The Flash. The character was played by actor Robbie Amell, who explained during a recent panel at the Emerald City Comic-Con that he would love to come back and reprise the character again. Here’s what he had to say:

The DC TV universe has a lot of ways of killing off characters, but it also has a nearly equal number of ways to bring those dead characters back. Over on The Flash, we’ve seen dead characters return via time travel, not to mention met their Earth-2 counterparts, who are generally played by the original actor or actress who was killed off. Because of this, it makes total sense that Robbie Amell might make a comment at the Emerald City Comic-Con (via Screenrant) about appearing on the series again. It could very well happen, just not this season.

As Robbie Amell noted, he won’t be back in Season 2. That would be more unfortunate if we hadn’t actually seen the actor pop up earlier this season. In “Welcome to Earth-2,” Amell played Deathstorm, a villainous version of the original character Amell played who just so happened to live on Earth-2.

As fun as it was to play Deathstorm, Robbie Amell does have a request if he is asked back though:

After taking a bit of a break in March, The Flash is back on the air and still has quite a few episodes to air before Season 2 is over. Right now, we obviously have no way of knowing how Ronnie Raymond could fit back into the fold at any point, but we’ll let you know if that day comes. In the meantime, new episodes of The Flash air on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET, only on the CW.

Earth One’s Ronnie Raymond may have met his demise saving Central City in The Flash Season 2 premiere, but Robbie Amell’s time on the show isn’t finished yet. Last month, it was revealed the actor would be returning as the Earth Two Ronnie, a.k.a. Deathstorm. As the name suggests, this Ronnie opted to be a bad guy rather than a hero, committing crimes with his just-as-evil wife Caitlin Snow, a.k.a. Killer Frost. If that wasn’t enough, Amell dropped a spoiler over the weekend that his new character will have a shocking impact on the series.

Warning: a spoiler for The Flash is ahead!

While confirming the date of his Flash appearance at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, Amell let slip that Deathstorm will supposedly kill one of the show’s main characters. Here’s exactly what he said, according to Comicbook.com:

A statement like that is sure to worry some fans, but it’s probably not as drastic as Amell makes it seem. For one thing, the Flash gang, specifically Barry, Cisco and Harry Wells, will be going to Earth Two in that episode, so if one of the main cast members did shoot a death scene, it was probably while playing their doppelgänger. Not only that, but series regular deaths on Arrow and The Flash usually don’t occur until in the last couple episodes of a season, and by then we’ll just be over the halfway mark. So yes, we will see one of the series regulars die on The Flash in the coming weeks, but it’s much more likely it will be as an Earth Two citizen rather than the individual we’ve grown to know. That doesn’t bode well for Candice Patton and Jesse L. Martin, who are already confirmed to appear as Earth Two Iris and Joe West, respectively.

Of corse, there’s always the chance that Amell was referring to Harry Wells, since he is from Earth Two and one of the show’s newest main characters. Perhaps while they’re trying to rescue his daughter, Jessie, Harry is incinerated by Deathstorm’s powers. However, if Deathstorm and Killer Frost are like the other not-Jay Garrick Earth Two metahumans, then they’re in some kind of alliance with Zoom, and the demonic speedster and Harry are also currently working together to make Barry more powerful. So Deathstorm offing Harry would ruin Zoom’s plan to steal Barry’s speed at a later date, and no matter strong Deathstorm is, he wouldn’t want to find himself on the receiving end of Zoom’s wrath.

While Ronnie Raymond was one of the key recurring characters during The Flash Season 1, his time in Season 2 was short-lived, seemingly perishing in the premiere. Martin Stein has since found a new Firestorm partner in Jefferson Jackson for Legends of Tomorrow, so The Nuclear Man’s future is safe on TV. However, Robbie Amell hinted last month that he would be back on The Flash, and sure enough, it’s now official that Ronnie Raymond will be seen again later this season… just not as the one audiences know well. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently admitted we'll be getting an Earth Two version of the character, who instead went down a dark path.

Nothing identifies you as evil quite like having “death” in your moniker (just ask Arrow’s Slade Wilson), and EW's report makes it sound like The Flash’s Deathstorm won’t be someone you want to mess around with. During 2009’s "Blackest Night," Deathstorm was the deceased Ronnie Raymond who was brought back as a Black Lantern (think of an intelligent zombie wielding a power ring), who had all the powers of the original Firestorm. Even after Ronnie was legitimately resurrected by the White Lantern, Deathstorm continued to operate as a separate entity during "Brightest Day" until he and the other independent Black Lanterns were destroyed by the White Lantern’s light. It looks like aspect of that Deathstorm will be combined with the New 52’s Deathstorm, who is Martin Stein from Earth 3, for The Flash.

A recent promo for the latter half of Season 2 showed that the Earth Two Caitlin Snow is the Killer Frost we’ve all been anticipating, and just like in Earth One before Ronnie’s demise, this Caitlin will be married to her world’s Ronnie. This turns the tables on their usual antagonistic relationship in the comics, instead causing chaos as a couple. So when Barry and several members of Team Flash head over to Earth Two later this year, they’ll run into these corrupted doppelgängers.

As for Earth One Ronnie, it’s unclear if the Deathstorm episode will confirm whether he’s truly dead or not. When we last saw him in “The Man Who Saved Central City,” he had been sucked into the temporal singularity above Central City after separating from Stein. In the world of comics, no body usually means that someone isn’t truly dead, so it’s possible that Ronnie was simply transported to another Earth. However, if he really did bite the dust as everyone on the show assumes, then fans are going to have to get used to seeing dark Ronnie operating, assuming he survives past this upcoming episode.

The Flash will return with new episodes on Tuesday, January 19 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Here's when the other midseason shows will be returning.

As we’ve seen over the past year and a half of The Flash, as well as the Arrow portion of the recent crossover event, it’s a show that has different ways of bringing characters back that have already died, whether by time travel, by flashbacks or by multiple Earths. Actor Robbie Amell seems to be hinting that fans will soon get another taste of Ronnie Raymond in the future, and possibly with him back as one-half of Firestorm.

There’s bound to be at least one of Amell’s biggest fans that just set fire to everything else in the room in celebration. It was a while back that the actor first teased a possible return to the show, and now this Instagram post seems to build upon that implication. After all, why is he messing with Firestorm props if he’s not going to be inside the costume?

As viewers are aware, Season 2 of The Flash was barely underway before the Ronnie half of Firestorm was killed off in an effort to close the wormhole over Central City. It was an extremely abrupt exit for a character whose importance had been built up. But now we’re at a point where there’s a new Firestorm, and Caitlin’s mourning stages have tapered off with Jay Garrick around to woo her. It’s possible that Amell could reprise the role for a flashback scene where Caitlin is reminiscing about Ronnie and their time together, but we’re hoping for something more dynamic.

Like, say, there being an Earth 2 version of Ronnie that somehow gets brought over to Earth 1’s Central City, which would probably be pretty devastating mentally for Caitlin. (Not that I want her to be devastated.) Maybe there’s an evil version of Firestorm on Earth 2 that Harrison Wells and Garrick’s Flash never knew about, and Zoom uses him to attack Barry and the S.T.A.R. Labs team. I’d be down for that (or something like it) being how Ronnie returns to this world. And then there’s the possibility that this might have something to do with Legends of Tomorrow. What’s it gonna be, Amell?

There’s one more new episode of The Flash Tuesday night on The CW, and the show will then fade into winter hibernation, returning at some point in 2016.

While news of spinoffs, reboots, and revivals has been everywhere over the past few months, the biggest franchise to be returning to the small screen is undoubtedly Fox’s The X-Files. The upcoming return to the world of Mulder and Scully will star original actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, and the six one-hour installments will air in early 2016. Naturally, this would not be The X-Files if there weren’t rumors of conspiracies abounding, and whispers of a possible spinoff featuring characters played by Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose have been spreading like an alien virus. Well, the truth is out there, and the truth is…maybe.

Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose will be playing FBI Agents Mills and Einstein in one of the six episodes of the new series. TVLine reports that creator Chris Carter has been quick to deny that the actors are being deliberately written for a spinoff, but he would not entirely rule out the possibility.

Now, any fan of The X-Files will likely know that Chris Carter is the frequent culprit of three things: doublespeak, vagueness, and a refusal to give proper scene lighting when Mulder and Scully kiss. Carter not giving a definite answer about a potential spinoff is certainly not proof that a spinoff is off the books.

An X-Files 2.0 series would not be the first attempt to expand upon the original. The short-lived Lone Gunmen spinoff ran for just a single season, and the efforts of the eighth and ninth seasons of the show in its original run to replace the Mulder/Scully dynamic fell flat. Neither attempt was successful, but televsion and – more importantly – audiences have changed, and the time is right to rejuvenate the franchise.

The X-Files certainly could do with some rejuvenation. Although fans of the show have been ecstatic since the official announcement of a mini-series revival, the memories of a painful and mostly Mulder-less ninth season followed by a disappointing feature film linger. With David Duchovny co-starring with Gillian Anderson in all six episodes and the series revisiting the classic alien mythology that made The X-Files famous during its heyday in the 1990s, the upcoming event may in fact set the stage perfectly for a possible Robbie Amell/Lauren Ambrose spinoff.

Of course, no amount of doublespeak or vagueness will change the terms of Amell’s and Ambrose’s contracts that were initially negotiated for nothing further than the mini-series, nor will any amount of theorizing take away from the fact that Duchovny and Anderson are the real draws back to the show. Still, who can say that handsome Robbie Amell and gorgeous redhead Lauren Ambrose can’t capture the X-Files magic and carry a spinoff of their own? Throw in a dash of chemistry, and this new duo may just be dynamic enough for fans to want to believe in the possibility of a spinoff.

The X-Files returns to Fox on January 24, 2016.

The Flash is a show that has proven two versions of a character can be better than one, and we’ve seen it happen to just about every major character. We already know that we’ve got a second version of Firestorm coming to the show next week, but could we get another version of Ronnie Raymond at some point? Maybe so, if actor Robbie Amell is to be believed.

Amell took to his Instagram page earlier to share an image of him standing next to Franz Drameh, who plays the new Firestorm-half Jax Jackson. But it is the picture’s caption that has us burning up with questions.

If you’ll recall, Season 2 kicked off by showing audiences that it wasn’t really Flash that saved Central City from the singularity, but Firestorm. And the act of flying into it actually killed Ronnie, while Dr. Martin Stein survived, though not without some strange blue-flamed side effects. So how would we run into Ronnie again in this world?

Well first, maybe it’s not this world at all. Considering we’ve already seen how Earth 2 is changing the show, as well as the fact that there are 52 dimensional breaches out there, it’s certainly possible that there’s another version of Ronnie that we’ll be meeting in the future. One that didn’t die and is still possibly married to Caitlin. Or maybe the two never tied the knot. I’m not here to consider where his romances are, though.

On the flipside, maybe Ronnie didn’t die at all! It’s certainly possible, as The Flash has proven just about everything is possible. If we can look at this from Joe West’s perspective, there’s no corpse, so it’s hard to be certain that there’s been an actual death. It’s not clear what would have happened to him or his body, but the writers probably have a notebook full of potential explanations.

Or maybe Ronnie will return to the show in a flashback. Bo-o-o-o-oring. We want something weirder.

The future of Batman movies remains a mystery. Sure, The Dark Knight will be showing up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and probably both Justice League features, but right now there are no plans on the books to give the beloved protector of Gotham City a new solo film. As a result, fans are left to speculate about the cinematic future of the superhero, and while most have their own pet theories, Flash and Arrow’s Robbie Amell has dreams of a Batman Beyond feature.

This past weekend, Amell was a guest at Salt Lake Comic Con, and it was while on a panel that he discussed his dreams of someday seeing a live-action adaptation of the hit animated series that ran from 1999 to 2001. Discussing his hopes to one day see the project made, and potentially be a part of it, the actor said,

Batman Beyond is a sequel to the great Batman: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 to 1995, and The New Batman Adventures, which kept the continuity going from 1997 to 1999. It was set 40 years after its predecessors, and followed a teenager named Terry McGinnis – who comes under the tutelage of Bruce Wayne and becomes the new Batman.

The animated show had a wild, neon glow-driven aesthetic that could really shine with a huge blockbuster budget, but that’s actually not that Robbie Amell thinks is best for the project. Instead, he thinks it should be scaled way back. He told the crowd,

Despite what Amell says, the truth is that we may not actually be that far off from seeing something akin to a Batman Beyond movie. As a result of the movie being heavily inspired by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is launching the DC Cinematic Universe with an older version of the Caped Crusader (played by Ben Affeck). As a result of this, a time may come sooner rather than later for the hero to pass his mantle to another, and by that point it would be possible to introduce the first live-action Terry McGinnis.

To say that the Season 1 finale of The CW'a The Flash left us wondering what would happen next would be the understatement of the season. With time travel and alternate timelines now firmly established as parts of this world, the show could literally go anywhere. So what does the future hold for our favorite fireball throwing hero with a minor multiple personality disorder? According to Ronnie Raymond himself, Robbie Amell, Firestorm will likely see new powers next season.

In the comics Firestorm is a character able to manipulate all matter, not just the fire that we've seen thus far on TV. Screenrant is reporting that it’s likely we’ll see this new ability in Season 2, because we nearly saw it in Season 1. Amell says there was originally a scene in the finale episode, when Danielle Panabaker’s Caitlin Snow is giving Ronnie Raymond a checkup and he proceeds to transform her thermometer into a flower. The scene was cut out since it was not directly necessary for the plot and that episode was packed to the gills as it was. Still, if the showrunners were planning to unveil this power already, it’s a safe bet we’ll see it early next season. Maybe rather than simply learning the ability it’s something he picks up from an alternate version of himself as a result of the massive time paradox tornado monster. Still waiting for that name catch on.

The Flash doesn’t seem to do much without purpose, things that seem like easter eggs end up being major plot points, so bringing in this new power likely has a point that will be important later. We know we’ll be seeing Robbie Amell as Firestorm in Season 2 of The Flashbut exactly where the character, and the actor, are headed when Legends of Tomorrow debuts at mid-season is more than a little up in the air at this point. We know that Victor Garber will be in the new series portraying the other half of Firestorm, Martin Stein, but Amell’s name has been mysteriously absent. Will matter manipulation become the key to a permanent separation between Raymond and Stein?

Wherever things are going from here, if past is prologue, it’s going to be exciting and it’s going to keep us guessing. Firestorm, and Amell specifically are very popular so while we'd expect to see a lot of them going forward, on one show or the other, anything is possible. There is, after all, a future for Caitlin Snow that will come to pass at some point. Ice vs. Fire? We really don’t know who to back on that one.

Robbie Amell's sci-fi drama The Tomorrow People may have been cancelled, but it looks like he won't need to clean out his CW locker after all. The actor, who also happens to be the cousin of Arrow star Stephen Amell, has been cast to play the role of Ronnie Raymond in Arrow spinoff The Flash.

Variety says that Robbie Amell has been cast in The Flash, playing Ronnie Raymond -- also known in the DC universe as Firestorm -- in the anticipated superhero spinoff. Amell's character will be introduced in the third episode of the first season. According to the site, Ronnie is a maintenance worker at S.T.A.R. Labs and he plays an "integral part" in the particle accelerator accident that rendered Barry Allen comatose (and eventually super-fast). Ronnie also happens to be the fiancé of Dr. Caitlin Snow, who's played by Danielle Panabaker.

At this point, it sounds like this is a recurring role, but it does sound like it's a pretty notable one, especially when we consider the possibility that Ronnie Raymond may be (or will become) Firestorm. He'd likely make a good ally for Barry/Flash. In the DC universe, Firestorm has the ability to transmute elements. Will The Flash's Ronnie Raymond be able to manipulate fire? That remains to be seen.

Prior to playing the starring role in CW's short-lived drama The Tomorrow People, Robbie Amell played a father-to-be in the also short-lived (and under-appreciated, in my opinion), NBC comedy 1600 Penn. Amell's other credits include Revenge, Alcatraz, Hawaii Five-0 and Pretty Little Liars.

It was one thing when Robbie Amell joined his cousin Stephen at CW, as they were starring in in two separate series that weren't related in any way beyond the network on which they aired. This casting is a bit different, as Robbie Amell's character exists in the same universe as Stephen's Oliver Queen, though they're on separate series. The characters are presumably unrelated, but who knows? Given the connection The Flash has to Arrow, added to Robbie Amell's noticeable resemblance to Stephen, I expect it to be kind of surreal, seeing Robbie Amell on The Flash, especially if Oliver Queen drops in for a visit and the two share some screen time.

Whether or not we see an Amell-Amell collision on The Flash (or Arrow for that matter) is unknown, but the actors' off-screen connection is a cool added tie-in, and it'll be interesting to see whether it's acknowledged at all on The Flash when Ronnie Raymond shows up.

Among the latest crop of casting news, Robbie Amell, who plays the sweet but not-so-bright D.B. on NBC's freshman comedy 1600 Penn, has been cast in the lead of The CW's The Tomorrow People, which comes from Phil Klemmer and follows a group of young people from across the globe who "represent the next stage of human evolution" and join forces to fight evil. Amell will play Stephen, "a tormented young man who longs to be normal and is relieved when he learns that he’s not crazy, but rather part of a group of genetically superior “Tomorrow People.”

It's particularly fitting that Robbie should star in this pilot, given the genre and network. If you're a fan of The CW's Arrow, you may have recognized Robbie's last name. Amell is the younger cousin to Arrow star Stephen Amell. If The Tomorrow People goes to series, that'll put both Amells in starring roles in genre shows at the network.

Deadline shared the casting news, but the site doesn't mention how his involvement in this drama would affect Amell's role on 1600 Penn. Playing the father of Becca's child (a.k.a. the future first grandchild), you'd think he'd be sticking around the show, regardless of whether or not he and Becca find lasting love amidst their unplanned pregnancy. It's possible D.B. was never intended to linger, or perhaps he'll be recast if 1600 Penn is renewed for a second season and The Tomorrow People moves forward. All we can do is speculate at this point. In the meantime, Amell's casting follows word that Aussie soap actor Luke Mitchell has also joined The Tomorrow People. If being extremely good-looking are their super powers, the forces of evil don't stand a chance.
