It’s been a little over twenty years since The Amazing Race won the first Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, and in the time since, the Television Academy has steadily added more awards to honor the great work being done in the reality space. Given the popularity and staying power of the genre, those honors have been well deserved, but there’s still one huge omission the Television Academy needs to fix.

Producers, hosts, casting departments, cinematographers, costume designers and more working professionals are now eligible to win dedicated categories, but the actual people we tune into these shows to watch still aren’t eligible to win anything at the Emmys. That’s a problem, and it’s also a huge missed opportunity. We need a category that’s for Best Reality Competition Contestant And/ Or Cast Member, and we need it as soon as possible.

Imagine an alternate universe in which Survivor legends like Boston Rob, Parvati Shallow, Sandra Diaz-Twine and Cirie Fields were Emmy nominees or even winners. Imagine a world in which Big Brother favorites like Rachel Reilly, Dan Gheesling and Taylor Hale could brag forever about being recognized by the Academy. Imagine if standouts from Drag Race, Top Chef, Amazing Race, American Idol, Love Island, The Traitors and other competitions were eligible to do more than just win the show.

And that’s doubly true for the stars of more traditional reality shows. The Real Housewives are the most obvious example. Nene Leakes, Lisa Vanderpump, Teresa Giudice and so many others have turned millions of people into passionate and dedicated fans. They’re fantastic at what they do and deserve the chance to be honored in the same way as the stars of more traditional scripted shows. How much drama and intrigue and fun would have been created by some of these women being put head-to-head in the same Emmy category? I’d watch a multiple episode arc of that every season.

I’m sure there are any number of practical reasons why this hasn’t happened. I’m sure there are issues with union vs non union performers. I’m sure there are issues with feeling like these personalities are supposed to be “real people” and not professionals working on a show. I’m sure it would be awkward for voters to try and figure out how to compare Tom Sandoval to Rick Devens and Bob The Drag Queen.

I get that it’s complicated, but the Emmys are about honoring people doing great work in television. Clearly, the Television Academy has decided the reality genre is worth celebrating and is here to stay. I agree. Now it’s time to start celebrating the actual people we’re watching each season. With all due respect to hosts, it’s the actual contestants who make or break a season. Assumedly, that’s why, back in 2017, the Academy officially added Outstanding Casting For A Reality Program. Now it’s time to do the same for the contestants and cast members.

If it were up to me, I’d add four categories and do Best Male Star In A Reality Show, Best Female Star In A Reality Show, Best Male Competitor In A Competition Show and Best Female Competitor In A Competition Show. Honestly though, I’d settle for just one that more generally honors the stars in the entire Reality-Competition space. They’ve collectively earned their moment. Now it’s time we give it to them.

June is Pride Month, and many LGBTQ+ folks and their allies are looking for queer content to watch. Luckily, RuPaul and the folks at World of Wonder delivered, as the new comedy disaster film Stop! That! Train! is in theaters. The movie is silly AF and has a million jokes a minute, similar to Airplane! or the new Naked Gun movie. But there's one running gag that cracked me up every time it popped back up throughout the movie's 90-minute runtime.

Stop! That! Train! is helmed by Disenchanted director Adam Shankman, whose resume includes instant classics like Hairspray and A Walk to Remember. The movie flies by thanks to its non-stop jokes, although there's one especially silly one I couldn't get enough of: the train passenger who is actually a rag doll.

Stop! That! Train! Had Tons Of Dumb Jokes, But The Doll Passenger Sent Me

The doll "passenger" debuts early during Stop! That Train!, just before Glamazonian Express staff Amber, Alli, and Ayshleiygh (Drag Race's Brooke Lynn Heights, Marcia Marcia Marcia and Symone) do their musical number about on-train safety. When JujuBee's DeeDee is directing a passenger to his seat, she tells him:

The camera moves to his empty seat to reveal that the "redhead" is actually just a smiling rag doll. While at first this seems like just one of countless jokes in the new comedy, it turns out to be a runner that gets more and more ridiculous every time we return to the doll and catch up with what she's been doing during the trip.

For instance, later in Stop! That Train! we see that a number of the passengers are partying, including the redheaded doll. She's seen ingesting lines of a white powder, indicating that not only is the doll actually alive, but she enjoys drugs while traveling on the rails.

We end up seeing the doll again even later in the movie, when she appears to be post-coitus after having sex with another passenger (or two). On top of following comedy's rule of threes, the fact that this innocent-looking doll is actually into drugs and sex is a bonkers juxtaposition to her appearance. And I've got to give writers Christina Friel and Connor Wright credit for going there with Stop! That! Train!.

In many ways, Adam Shankman's new movie feels like a wonder of filmmaking. Stop! That! Train! was shot in just 19 days, and is jam-packed full of thrilling celebrity cameos. Some familiar faces that pop up include Sarah Michelle Gellar, Raven-Symoné, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Charo, Lisa Rinna, and a number of Ru Girls. Although in my mind, one of the biggest scene stealers is none other than the redheaded rag doll.

Stop! That! Train! is in theaters now as part of the 2026 movie release list. There simply aren't enough silly comedies like this in theaters, and I hope it ends up becoming a cult classic down the line. It provided plenty of laughs and was a much-needed shot of queer joy this Pride Month.

Jennifer Lopez is a global superstar, who has spend decades entertaining the masses as a pop star and actress. That includes her iconic Super Bowl performance with Shakira, which broke the internet back in 2020 and inspired a documentary (streaming with a Netflix subscription). It turns out that RuPaul's Drag Race star Mia Starr was one of JLo's backup dancers, but she recalled allegedly feeling body shamed and hazed while rehearsing for the Big Game.

Drag Race is one of the best reality shows on the air, and Mia recently made a splash Seaosn 18, which only just wrapped up. She recently appeared on the TikTok of fellow Ru Girl Mistress Isabelle Brooks, and shared a rough story about rehearsing for JLo's Super Bowl Show. As she claimed:

Yikes. In addition to being a famous Drag Queen, Mia Starr is also an accomplished dancer out of drag as Mikey Pesante. That was the case when he was hired by JLo's team for the Big Game, but he didn't exactly get a warm welcome when the rehearsal process began. On top of being called and asked to take off his shirt on Day 2, he clearly felt uncomfortable having to rehearse the full day shirtless... especially after reportedly being called out by the "Let's Get Loud" singer.

Despite this very memorable incident, that didn't stop Mia from getting through the full 3-months of rehearsal before finally getting the chance to dance during that iconic Super Bowl performance. She admits it was a bucket list moment, but when asked by MIB if she'd work with Lopez again, the Drag Race contestant said:

Mia Starr recently competed on Season 18 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, which aired this year as part of the 2026 TV schedule. As for JLo, he's attached to a number of exciting projects on the 2026 movie release list and beyond.

RuPaul's Drag Race and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City are two of the best reality shows on TV, and both have tons of fans. I happen to be pretty obsessed with both, and maintain that RHOSLC is the superior House show on Bravo (and streaming with a Peacock subscription). So when the trailer for Drag Race All Stars Season 11 was released, I lost it when I saw one of those Utah ladies were going to appear as a guest judge. What's more, they picked the perfect choice.

Every season of Drag Race has exciting guest judges, and All Stars 11 will be no exception when it premieres for those with a Paramount+ subscription. While it's exciting to see the various queens back to compete, the fact that one other than Bronwynn Newport is especially fitting. After all, she's a LGBTQ+ advocate who is known for her outrageous fashion on the show. As such, she should have a solid perspective on the contestant's fashions.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City aka the Sisters of Salt some of the most popular in the entire franchise, and Bronwyn Newport has gotten quite popular in her two seasons on the show (so far). And while I went on record saying Angie Katsanevas arguably the best Housewife of all time, Bronwyn being the one who gets to appear on Drag Race just feels right. And I just know that she won't be calling any of the contestants looks a "costume". We know how she feels about that.

Aside from her iconic fights and truly outrageous looks on RHOSLC, Bronwyn has also used her platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ right in the past. Specifically, she worked with organizations like Encircle, the Utah Pride Center, and Equality Utah. So she's earned her place on the Drag Race judging panel... even if its only for one episode.

Plenty of Real Housewives have guest judged on RuPaul's Drag Race over the years, including Lisa Rinna, Camille Grammer, and Kandi Buress. But this is the first time that one of the Salt Lake City ladies have gotten the chance. Although given how wildly popular that city is, it tracks that the production company might want to bring them in. And I personally can't wait to see what Bronwyn brings to the table.

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 11 is set to premiere May 8th on Paramount+ as part of the 2026 TV schedule. And Bronwyn's tenure on RHOSLC is streaming now on Peacock, with another season currently in production.

Ever since its inception, RuPaul's Drag Race has been one of the best reality shows on TV. Although it had humble beginnings, it's become an Emmy-winning sensation. While some of the seasons are available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription, new episodes in Season 18 are available exclusively on MTV. But it's been basically impossible to catch up if you don't get a chance to watch it live. Let's break it all down.

Drag Race winners have made their way into our hearts, and there are generations of loyal fans who tune into each new season. As someone who watched since Day 1, I never miss a season. But the most recent episodes have been putting me through it. Seriously, why is it so hard to watch this show On Demand?

Season 18 Is Super Hard To Watch On Demand

First off: yes, I know I could spring for DVR. But with paying for so many streaming services as well as cable and internet, this is something I've been avoiding. After all, major shows typically put new episodes On Demand the next day. That is, except for RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18.

Because, any time I happen to have plans on a Friday (what a brag, I know), I've had to wait DAYS to finally be able to watch each new episode for free. This has stood out to me since the season started, because it stands in stark juxtaposition to the way basically every other major network/TV show does things. I mean, I pay for cable, why shouldn't I be able to watch each new episode Saturdays On Demand?

While this was frustrating enough, there's another fold to this situation that's been driving me crazy: often the episodes are showing up, the next day... for a price. Yes, when I go onto On Demand new eps will appear, but only to purchase for $1.99. As such, I'm left waiting extra days for it to finally be available to free with the cable I'm already paying for.

So my question is, whose fault is this? Is this a clerical error by my cable provider, or are the folks behind RuPaul's Drag Race trying to make more money out of their fanbase? If it's the latter that's pretty disappointing, especially since the show has moved networks and streaming services a number of times throughout the years. We've already been required to pay in order watch each new season, so it's a frustrating that I can't simply tune in on Saturdays to watch Season 18 for free On Demand.

New episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18 air Fridays on MTV as part of the 2026 TV schedule. We'll just have to see if the rest of the season is similarly difficult to watch.

Meet The Queens

Survivor is one of the best reality shows, and is showing no signs of slowing down. Fans tune in to watch two seasons every year on CBS (streaming with a Paramount+ subscription) and there are some clear fan favorites. Chief among them is Parvati Shallow, who unfortunately wasn't included in Survivor 50's cast list. While she won't be competing again, she has been keeping busy including dressing up as Boston Rob and doing a drag number opposite RuPaul's Drag Race Queen Jan. Let's break it all down.

Parvati is one of the most beloved Survivor contestants of all time, thanks to her hilarious soundbites, physical performance, and keen strategic mind. She got even more fans after appearing in The Traitors Season 2 cast. Shallow is currently promoting her new book, and during an event in NYC she performed "Shallow" from A Star Is Born with Jan as Rob and his wife Amber. Check it out thanks to one viral TikTok.

I mean, that is rich. Parvati has been in some of the best Survivor seasons of all time, and played with Boston Rob more than once. So seeing her in full Drag King regalia as her fellow Survivor legend is delightful. And the clip just gets more hilarious once Jan enters, mic in hand, dressed as Amber from Survivor All Stars.

Boston Rob has made a ton of money from his time on the island, although all Survivor contestants make money once they get deep in the game. He's widely regarded as one of the best contestants of all time, which is why it's especially delightful to see Parvati poking fun at him, and the showmance with Amber that captured America's attention.

In the end Shallow and Boston Rob were both left out of the cast of Survivor 50, which will featured returning players from recent as well as classic seasons. But Parvati recently returned to the game with Australian Survivor Vs. The World, which will presumably be her final appearance on that competition series.

While queer Survivor fans have historically been fans of Parvati, she's accepted her gay icon status in recent years-- partly thanks to her acclaimed run on The Traitors. Shallow is also came out as LGBTQ+ after dating comedian Mae Martin, which saw her even more embraced by the gay community. And her going into drag and performing with Jan just shows how far she's come in that regard.

Shallow has been wildly busy since The Traitors, filming Deal or No Deal Island and Australian Survivor Vs. The World in quick succession. And somehow she also had the time to write her new book Nice Girls Don't Win: How I Burned It All Down to Claim My Power. But now I just want to see her impersonate more Survivor legends.

Parvati's tenure on Survivor is on Paramount+, while Deal or No Deal Island and The Traitors are available to stream with a Peacock subscription. Who knows where her career in reality TV will take this iconic player next?

I figured we’d get news on Season 4 of The Traitors this week, but oh my Lord, sweet baby Jesus, not Ekin Su was I surprised by the list that dropped this morning. A few of the names (Dorinda Medley, Lisa Rinna, Porsha Williams, Maura Higgins) have been bouncing around for a hot minute, but a lot of others are completely out of left field. Travis Kelce’s mom Donna seems to be the big WTF most people are talking about, but she’s not my biggest surprise. That would be Survivor favorite and podcasting extraordinaire Rob Cesternino.

Before I get into why I’m so blown away though, let’s talk about the whole cast, which, I have to stress, is rumored right now. The alleged leak came from Reality TV News/ Updates on X this morning, but unlike most rumors, fans are taking this very seriously, as are people in the reality community. That’s because the source is typically reliable with their info, and there’s also been some corresponding social posts the past few days that seem to back up at least some of the names.

Let’s just run down the whole alleged cast. From Survivor, we have Rob, Natalie Anderson and Yam Yam Arocho. From Real Housewives, it’s Dorinda, Lisa, Porsha and Candiace Bassett. From Big Brother, it’s Ian Terry and Tiffany Mitchell. Plus, we’re supposedly getting Mama Kelce, Mark Ballas from DWTS, figure skater Johnny Weir, Monet X Change from Drag Race, Colton Underwood from The Bachelor, singer Eric Nam and the aforementioned Higgins from Love Island.

Even if everyone in this list is one hundred percent accurate, there are almost certainly names missing too. The last two US versions of The Traitors have had twenty-two and twenty-three people. There are only sixteen names on this list. Even if they cut back a little, it’s hard to imagine they’d cut back so much. So, look for at least a few surprises to be named later.

Regardless of who they are though, I am stoked as a Traitors fan and as a Survivor fan, particularly about Rob Cesternino. He, of course, played Survivor twice in the show’s early seasons, then launched a podcast empire called Rob Has A Podcast that is the go-to source of news for many in the reality competition community. He was heavily rumored to be part of the Survivor 50 cast but was cut late in the process like so many legends. Most fans assumed he’d probably never enter the casting process again, but then out of nowhere, his name showed up this morning.

The best part about The Traitors is how many fanbases the show can bring together. This cast is a great example of that. There’s all the representation from Housewives, Survivor, Big Brother and more that you’d want, but to my delight, there are also so many random people here you’d never expect, which I love. As a huge figure skating and wild outfit fan, I am particularly stoked to see Johnny Weir. He’s the best and will almost certainly go even bigger than host Alan Cumming with his outfits.

Lisa Rinna seemingly confirmed her casting with an Instagram story with luggage and a passport. It’s unclear whether the other alleged cast members are currently in the process of traveling to the castle in Scotland, but hopefully we get some more of these semi-confirmations today. I’d also take an official casting list if Peacock wants to be generous and drop one.

There’s a part of me that’s preventing myself from being all capital letters EXCITED until it’s official. To be honest though, I’m lower capital letters excited and cannot wait for this season.

RuPaul's Drag Race is arguably one of the best reality shows ever, and usually graces fans with more than one season per year. Shortly after Season 17's airing, we've been treated to All-Stars 10 (streaming with a Paramount+ subscription). And while I loved the two-episode premiere, I've got to say that the bracket system is already frustrating me a bit.

While some fans figure out how to watch RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars 10, I've already blown through the first two episodes. The premiere was a fun viewing experience, especially thanks to fan favorite contestants like Aja. We are now at Episode 3, which is once again focused on Bracket 1. I'm excited to see the drama play out, but I'm sad that we won't get a glimpse of the rest of the cast. The bracket system sequesters the queens, and I'm just having a hard time adjusting to this format change... despite how gag-worthy the season has been so far.

I Hate That We've Only Seen Half The Cast.

I was a Day One supporter of Drag Race, watching the beloved blurry first season on Logo back in 2009. Since then it's become an Emmy-winning success, but I'll admit that when the show changes its format too much I can be resistant. I'm intrigued by the bracket system, but I wish there was a way to show more of the contestants in these early episodes.

Maybe a solution would be alternating between brackets each episode. Although given how filming for Drag Race actually works, this would mean that we'd be watching the show non-chronologically. There likely isn't a way to ease my feelings without abandoning the macguffin altogether, so I'll just have to sit and deal with my discomfort as I watch new episodes every Friday.

I'm Going To Miss The First Group When They're Gone.

While it's strange that 2/3 of the cast of All-Stars 10 haven't graced our screens yet, it's going to be even weirder when the first bracket girls are gone for weeks at a time. Queens like Bosco and Irene the Alien (if they survive their grouping and move on in the competition) will capture our hearts and then vanish for weeks at a time as the second and third groups go through the same elimination process. The first two episodes have been a total blast, but I've got to admit I'm having some growing pains.

Of course, I recognize the upside to these smaller groups. This allows each of the contestants to have much more screen time, as each episode only focuses on one group of queens. This is why split premieres of Drag Race tend to work so well, going back to Season 6. Still, the fact that we'll never get the full cast together as a group during this season of All-Stars is a bummer for a longtime fan like myself who likes to see the group dynamic at play.

New episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars air Fridays on Paramount+ as part of the 2025 TV premiere list. We'll just have to see how fans feel about the format change as we get deeper into the season.

RuPaul's Drag Race has become a global sensation in its years on TV (and streaming with a Paramount+ subscription). Arguably one of the best reality shows ever, the passionate fandom, has a ton of love for its contestants, especially the Queens who have been on multiple seasons. That definitely includes two-time player and Drag Race Philippines judge Jiggly Caliente, whose family revealed that she recently had most of her leg amputated due to a medical emergency. And in response Bob the Drag Queen and plenty of other Drag Race icons are showing her love online.

When not performing, Jiggly Caliente goes by the name Bianca Castro. he drag queen and actress has unfortunately had some medical issues recently, and a "severe infection" eventually resulted in it needing to be amputated. Jiggly's Instagram announced this, with a message from her family:

What a tragedy. While it's a comfort to know that she's surrounding by loved ones and being taken care of by a medical team, it's hard to imagine such a beloved figure going through this. There's been an outpouring of love online, with the above post getting over 47k likes at the time of writing this story. The Traitors' Bob The Drag Queen is at the top of the comments section, posting:

While Jiggly is perhaps best known for competing on Season 4 and All-Stars 6 of RuPaul's Drag Race, she's also got plenty of acting credits on her resume. That includes a recurring role in Pose (streaming with a Hulu subscription), and appeared on multiple episodes of Broad City.

Both fans and friends are offering words of encouragement and love in the comments of her Instagram post, including Drag Race royalty Manila Luzon. She posted a short but sweet message on her friend's Instagram,

There are more messages of love and encouragement for Jiggly throughout social media right now. One touching Tweet came from Jaremi Carey, who competed on Drag Race under the name Phi Phi O'Hara. He was on Season 4 with her, and posted:

As the announcement post revealed, Jiggly is expected to have a long and exhausting recovery, and has cancelled all professional engagements for the foreseeable future. One can only imagine how she's feeling, but hopefully the outpouring of love from friends and fans alike is a comfort during this challenging time.

RuPaul's Drag Race is arguably one of the best reality shows of all time, and I'm proud to say that I've been a day one day since back when Season 1 arrived in 2009. We're currently in the mist of Season 17, which has already had a bunch of memorable moments. That includes the introduction of the The Badonka Dunk Tank, which has saved two different queens from elimination after losing their lip sync. But while I loved watching longstanding judge Michelle Visage get throw into water, I'm glad that part of the game is finally over.

Drag Race is always changing formats (and networks- the back catalogue is largely available with a Paramount+ subscription). Season 17 brought back the Rate-A-Queen system for the premiere, while also introducing The Badonka Dunk Tank, which was a last chance for two queen to save themselves. Michelle was dunked by both Hormona Lisa and Arrietty, which was exciting, but also means that only three contestants have been eliminated over the six episodes that have aired so far. I'm sorry, but I need more people to go home!

Reality competition shows are nothing without stakes, and unfortunately the power of two different queens being eliminated was ruined as a result of The Badonka Dunk Tank. Hormona went home for real in the latest episode, but it just feels like Season 17 as a whole is moving at a snail's pace.

Obviously saving two queens in this way was done purposefully, and helped to ensure a long season of advertising money for the network. And with Snatch Game coming next week, there's going to be a dizzying 11 Queens doing celebrity impersonations. I have to assume this means the groups will be split up, once again affecting the season as a whole. No more dunk tanks, damnit!

Of course, I have to admit that this format change did make for some great television, especially watching Michelle Visage get dunked. What was arguably funnier was RuPaul's reaction to his longtime friend and collaborator getting plunged into water, complete with the Emmy-winning host's signature scream/laugh. Alas, that twist of the game is seemingly done for the remainder of Season 17.

All that being said, I'm still finding Season 17 of RuPaul's Drag Race to be a fun ride so far. Unlike past years, the cast of Drag Queens don't seem too scared to fight or be shady in the interview chair, which always results in more drama and quotable soundbites. And now that contestants are finally being eliminated without the possibility of being immune, I have to assume that the stakes and tension are going to rise greatly. We'll just have to wait and see how it all goes down when new episodes air Fridays on MTV.

RuPaul, many past contestants, and fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race mourned the loss of UK Season 1 fan favorite The Vivienne yesterday. The television host and legendary drag queen took to her Instagram to publicly remember the Welsh drag performer.

The Vivienne’s, also known as James Lee Williams, passing came as a shock to the drag community. Many went to social media to pay their respects to the Season 1 UK winner, including Ru. The 64-year-old’s Instagram post was simple and sweet and involved the entirety of the show community in missing the wonderful queen. Check the post out for yourself below:

The post is a sweet throwback of RuPaul with The Vivienne out of drag. Comments from fans and other queens are full of love and reflectiveness in remembering the All Stars Season 7 alum. Even as a newer fan of the show (and still working through all of the US material) I feel the loss this is for everyone who knew or loved them. Williams will be missed and the community mourning the loss of them will only strengthen everyone’s bonds, the comments are proof:

The Vivienne had successes beyond her Drag Race roots. They were a noted singer/performer with an album Bitch on Heels amongst other non-album singles. Within the past couple of years, they had begun a promising stage career, including roles in The Wizard of Oz as well as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on tour in the UK. They are cherished and remembered fondly within their stage and drag career, and beyond.

The news of the 32-year-old’s tragic passing comes during the 17th Season of the American Drag Race, a part of our 2025 TV schedule. It has easily become one of the best reality shows because of the queens who leave it all out there. That and the final format continues to evolve to fit the needs of the show, keeping up with what surprises and interests the fans most–Season 16 included.

The Vivienne will be missed greatly but has left a legacy showcasing how wonderful the drag community can be and is. It’s great to see RuPaul and others paying tribute to Williams publicly and with much love. I’ll be doing the same by rewatching some of my favorite Drag Race moments and a few of my favorite drag performances in movies.

Journalist Melissa Sander became instantly recognizable thanks to a news blunder she was involved in which became one of YouTube's earliest viral videos. In it, she's stomping on grapes, and suddenly falls and gets the wind knocked out of her. The noises she makes and the instant karma of the video have helped it remain iconic through the years. 

Ralph Bohner, WandaVision

WandaVision was wildly popular upon its release on Disney+, especially as we were in the midst of isolating due to the pandemic. Fans were shocked when X-Men star Evan Peters showed up as "Pietro", since Quicksilver was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the MCU. In the end, this was all a gag, with his character Ralph Bohner being perhaps the show's only misstep.

Throughout the many years of The Real Housewives franchise, there have been a few notable hot mic moments. But the most iconic came from RHOSLC's Lisa Barlow, where she went off on a wild rant about Meredith Marks behind closed doors. Unfortunately, her mic was very much still on.

Ashlee Simpson's Performance, SNL

Ashlee Simpson was a popular reality TV star and recording artist in the early aughts, and eventually, she was offered a chance to perform on Saturday Night Live. But Simpson got caught lip-syncing, and that viral moment has continued to haunt her in the years since this infamous performance.

Fans hoped she survived for some of the season before it was clear she was never coming back.

While Jennifer Hudson is known as one of the biggest success stories to come out of American Idol, she didn't go as far as folks might assume. She actually got seventh place in Season 3 of Idol, before eventually becoming a celebrated recording artist and actress. Talk about a mistake.

Turok-Han Power Levels, Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer introduced a new type of blood-drinking villain: the Turok-Han aka Uber Vamps. In their first appearances they're shown to be way more powerful than regular vampires, with even Buffy struggling to take one on. But by Buffy's series finale, even regular humans like Giles and Wood are able to fight them off, as well as the newly activated Potentials.

The most memorable thing to come out of the Oscars for years has to be when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage, in a moment that continues to follow his career. The Academy and the network have both caught flak for how they handled this, and how Smith was able to accept the Best Actor Oscar so shortly after the onscreen assault.

HBO's Game of Thrones was a sensation when it was on the air, even if the final season left something to be desired. But it also went viral for unique reasons, such as the GOT error where a Starbucks cup was visible in Westeros. Oops.

Friends ran for a whopping ten seasons, which saw a ton of acclaim come to its star-studded cast. Scheduling was likely a bit of a puzzle at the height of its popularity, which is why fans have spotted several scenes where actors' stand-ins are visible. Hey, it was before we were filming in HD. 

The Demogorgon, Stranger Things

Stranger Things is arguably the most popular original show to come out of Netflix since its inception. But that doesn't mean it's perfect, especially related to the use of Dungeons & Dragons lore. Because in Season 1 while the cast references the Demogorgon and even has a figure for the creature, it actually wouldn't be available in the year 1983. Given how passionate D&D fans are, the folks at Netflix probably should have seen this coming. 

Maggie's Picture, The Simpsons

Even animated shows could have some goofs, and The Simpsons isn't excluded from this. During the Sixth Season episode "And Maggie Makes Three" we see Marge and Homer talk about her being pregnant with the titular baby. But despite her not being born yet, we can see a photo of Maggie on the wall.

Breaking Bad is considered one of the best TV dramas ever, and continues to be a re-watchable show. But it's not without error, especially when it referenced Osama Bin Laden's 2011 death, despite it only being around 2007 in the show.

By mid-August, the busy summer movie season has usually run its course. However, for the best streaming services, there is never really a slow season. There’s always something new on Netflix (which has my top movie this week) or something coming up on Hulu that you can watch. What’s difficult is finding the best content among everything that’s available. Luckily, we have a few of the best choices from what’s new this week within the streaming realm.

Almost all the major streaming platforms have at least one major original series or movie on offer. We have a Star Wars animated series for kids that's being added to Disney+ and a Hulu animated series not for kids. There’s also a pair of interesting original movies with unlikely duos that look to combine action and comedy just perfectly. Here’s what’s worth looking at this week.

New Movies

The Union (Netflix) 

In The Union, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry play former high school sweethearts who reunite 25 years later. Little does he know that she’s a super spy, and she’s about to recruit him to work on a secret mission. Is the premise nuts? Sure but, if the action is solid and the chemistry between the two leads is there, nobody is going to care. One gets the sense that, at the very least, the cast had fun making the movie, and that can go a long way. Needless, this is my top movie, and I'm looking forward to checking it out!

The Union Premieres August 16 on Netflix.

The Woman King (Hulu)

2022’s The Woman King was one of the best-reviewed films of the year by both professional critics and general audiences, and yet it made less than $100 million worldwide at the box office and was ignored by the Oscars. That means there's a solid chance you may have missed one of the best movies of 2022, and you should fix that. The film stars Viola Davis as the leader of an all-female warrior unit in West Africa in the early 1800s. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood's historical epic features some impressive performances as well as excellent action. Don’t miss this one again.

The Woman King arrives on August 13 on Hulu.

The Fast & Furious Franchise (Peacock) 

The Fast & Furious movies are collectively the biggest current franchise that Universal has, and yet being able to watch the films with a Peacock subscription has been hit or miss due to agreements Universal signed before launching its own platform. This week the first eight Fast & Furious films join the ninth, which was added earlier this month, meaning you can watch almost the entire franchise in one place. Fast X is currently available with a Prime Video subscription if you need to watch all the Fast & Furious movies in order.

The Fast & Furious movies arrive August 12 on Peacock.

 Jackpot! (Prime Video) 

Most of us would do just about anything to win a lottery jackpot. The movie Jackpot!, from Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, suggests a hilarious future in which the way to win the lottery is to stay alive while everybody else tries to kill you and take your money. Awkwafina stars as the winner in fear for her life, and John Cena plays a guy trying to help her survive. The movie looks to combine Awkwafina's natural comedic timing with Cena's own comic abilities, while also giving the former WWE star plenty to do physically.

Jackpot! premieres August 15 on Prime Video.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Season 2 (Disney+)

So many Star Wars fans became enthralled with the franchise as young kids but, now, even younger children have an easy entry into the galaxy far, far, away. Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Season 2 (which consists of 11 episodes) arrives for those with a Disney+ subscription this week. The show is set during the High Republic era, the same time frame as the recent live-action series The Acolyte. Of course, these stories are more geared toward children and focus on a group of young Jedi learning lessons and trying to make good choices.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Season 2 premieres August 14 on Disney+.

Solar Opposites: Complete Season 5 (Hulu) 

In an era where a streaming series can be canceled seemingly without warning, the fact that Solar Opposites has made it to Season 5 is an accomplishment unto itself. Despite a high-profile voice actor change prior to Season 4, the show has remained popular among those with a Hulu subscription. The latest season promises fresh hijinks and new characters and looks to be exactly what fans are expecting.

Bel-Air Season 3 (Peacock) 

When it was first announced that The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the sitcom that made Will Smith a star, was going to be remade as a dramatic series, there were a lot of questions. What’s clear now is that the show is working for a lot of people, as Bel-Air premieres its third season this week.

Bel-Air Season 3 arrives August 15 on Peacock.

Bad Monkey (Apple TV+) 

I’m sure once I watch Bad Monkey with my Apple TV+ subscription, I’ll understand what the title means. All I know is that a good detective story with more than a little humor, courtesy of lead actor Vince Vaughn, looks like exactly the sort of thing I’d enjoy. Vaughn stars as a suspected police detective, who gets a bit too close to a murder case and then has to figure his way out of it.

Bad Monkey premieres August 15 on Apple TV+.

RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars Season 1 (Paramount+)  

It’s difficult to undersell just how popular RuPaul’s Drag Race has become. The series has multiple iterations domestically, but it is now also produced in multiple countries around the world. Now, it's time for the Drag Race World Championship. RuPaul's Drag Race Global All-Stars brings together 12 former contestants from the various international versions of the show to compete against each other. Until a Paramount+ subscription gets you access to the international versions of the show, this will give fans a way to see how the game is played around the world.

Dancing With the Stars’ supersized season 32 finale premiered December 2023 with 18-year-old actress Xóchitl Gómez declared the winner. While there have been a number of celebrities who have declined the opportunity to join the dance competition show like Caitlyn Jenner, Ricky Shroeder, and Jamie Lee Curtis to name a few, there are some stars who have been turned down. Drag Race’s Michelle Visage explains how she wanted to strut her stuff on Dancing With the Stars, but that she apparently keeps getting turned down.

Michelle Visage has been known for hosting and producing one of the best reality TV shows, RuPaul’s Drag Race, since Season 3 as well as its four spinoff series. She also finished fifth place on the British reality show Celebrity Big Brother where housemates stay in a custom-built house until they’re eliminated. You’d think with all of the reality TV experience Visage has that she’d be a shoo-in for Dancing With the Stars if she wanted to be on it.

While speaking to THR, the former Seduction girl group member explained why she keeps getting turned down to compete in the dance competition series:

Believe it or not, Dancing With the Stars was actually the Hollywood adaptation of the British series Strictly Come Dancing. Premiering one year before DWTS, celebrities partner up with professional dancers to compete predominately in Latin and ballroom dances. Michelle Visage partnered with dancer Giovanni Pernice on the show’s 17th season in 2019 only to be eliminated in week 9 after performing Madonna’s “Vogue.”

Even though Michelle Visage didn’t make it as a winner on Strictly Come Dancing, she claimed that her experience on the British series was what made the ABC series turn her down:

It’s bizarre that competing on one similar television show could stop a celebrity from competing on another. After all, it didn’t stop David Archuleta who first started as a Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search in 2003 and then later in 2008 became one of the most famous American Idol contestants, finishing second place. There have also been American Idol contestants who also competed on The Voice like The Morgan Twins, Keith Semple, Agina Alvarez, and more. You’d think that Visage would be no exception.

The Emmy winner may not have been accepted on Dancing With the Stars because of her previous experience competing in dance. On the other hand, the television personality pointed out one aspect she noticed from previous DWTS contestants that didn’t seem fair to her:

The American reality star/singer does have a point in that Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger won the tenth season of Dancing With the Stars despite her dancing experience in the girl group. JoJo Siwa was also a known dancer in two seasons of Dance Moms. Yet, that didn’t stop her from making history on DWTS for the show’s first same-sex pairing and placing second. When you look at the facts of the show’s previous history of not turning away dancers from competing, you can see where Visage is coming from.

Dancing With the Stars seems to apparently keep declining reality star Michelle Visage from competing due to her time on Strictly Come Dancing. But like she told THR, she still has no hesitation to put herself out there in other areas like her interest in wanting her own talk show with best friend and former DWTS contestant Leah Remini as well as wanting to host the Australian and New Zealand version of Drag Race.

She’s taken on a role in Disney+’s Doctor Who cast and her parts on the stage include Matron "Mama" Morton in Broadways’ Chicago and Audrey in Off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors. Sadly, we don’t get to see many performers like her in mainstream media. However, after seeing her shine in the episode “The Devil’s Chord” on the long-running sci-fi show, I’m hoping more drag queens will be able to take on roles like these that show off their range as queens and actors. 

Of course, elements of Monsoon’s personality as a drag queen played into the part of the villainous Maestro in Disney+’s first season of Doctor Who. However, that’s not all it was. She wasn’t playing a caricature of herself. She developed a new character that capitalized on her skills as a performer and truly highlighted her talents as an actor. She touched on this point, telling EW this about the inspirations for Maestro:

Monsoon also told Variety that she was inspired by Disney villains as well as Michelle Gomez's Mistress from Doctor Who. Overall, she was able to use her skills as a drag queen to create her incredible villain, however, she wasn’t beholden to her persona as a queen. 

And, she did all of this fabulously and in high fashion. However, she didn’t have to do her own makeup or fully develop her looks herself for this show. The design team worked closely with her to do it, as she told The Seattle Times:

I love that Monsoon has emerged as a prominent drag queen and actor, and while those two things intersect sometimes, they don’t always have to. She’s proven herself as a skilled performer with range in the worlds of drag and performing, and I hope more drag queens are able to do this, too. 

Overall, when this episode of Doctor Who aired on the 2024 TV schedule, it introduced the queen to a whole new audience and showed her longtime fans another side of her. She’s truly carved out such an incredible path over the last few years, this helped her expand it, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

I also can’t wait to see other prolific performers make their marks as both drag queens and actors. They’re such incredible artists who deserve massive recognition, and thankfully that’s starting to happen!

It wasn’t too long ago that I watched The Traitors Season 2 finale. But, I am already really excited about The Traitors Season 3 (which you can watch on one of the best streaming services with your Peacock subscription). The second season gave us so many iconic moments and an amazing cast. It will be hard for the upcoming season to top the second one, but The Traitors Season 3 cast might at least compete with it.

There are so many exciting additions, especially for reality TV show fans. We have more Big Brother and Survivor legends, many Bravo stars, and a few others from various reality shows and their associations with famous people. I am hoping that the entire cast delivers messy reality TV fun. I also want plenty of strategy, compelling gameplay, and meme-able moments. 

Nevertheless, there are a few Traitors Season 3 cast members that I am really looking forward to seeing on the show. Let’s discuss them. 

Danielle Reyes

As someone who has basically seen every season of Big Brother and its spin-offs, including Reindeer Games, I am so excited to see Danielle Reyes appear on The Traitors. Danielle is one of the all-time great BB players. She first made her debut in Season 3. Then she appeared on Big Brother 7: All-Stars. In 2023, she returned to the house to play Reindeer Games. 

Despite nearly two decades since she last appeared on the CBS hit, she was just as entertaining on Big Brother: Reindeer Games as in her previous appearances. Therefore, I am confident that Danielle will be one of the breakout stars of The Traitors Season 3. Even if she’s voted out during the first episode, she will have a memorable appearance. I just hope she’s not a Traitor, because Danielle would be a great Faithful. I also worry that if she’s a Traitor, people will suspect her immediately because of her reputation with Big Brother. I just want her on The Traitors until the end. 

Britney Haynes 

Britney Haynes is a Big Brother MVP in terms of entertainment. She may be the funniest Big Brother player of all time. She first appeared on the show during Season 12, then returned for 14 and Reindeer Games. I have always liked Britney but Reindeer Games reminded me how much I love her. 

She will have some of the best lines on The Traitors. I believe the fans of the show will adore her just as much as they did Phaedra Parks on The Traitors Season 2. Britney will be confessional gold. She is one of the few cast members that I think would be good as either a Traitor or a Faithful. She's savvy enough to do well in both roles. 

Danielle and Britney had some beef during their time on Reindeer Games that seemingly carried on after filming ended, so I wonder how the drama affects how they interact in The Traitors Season 3. Some of Season 2 cast came in with issues from real life and previous shows, but they squashed these tensions and worked together in the game. Even betrayals made during The Traitors Season 2 were let go by the end of the season.

I hope Britney and Danielle have a similar trajectory in the third season. Let the issues from Reindeer Games stay in the past. I want to see these Big Brother legends work together to figure out the Traitors and win some money. They both deserve it. The Traitors Season 3 could mend their relationship and give us a glorious double win with them.

Bob The Drag Queen 

I don’t consider myself a RuPaul’s Drag Race superfan, but I have seen many seasons and some of the spinoff series. Therefore, I was excited to see Peppermint on The Traitors Season 2, but was equally as disappointed when she left the show first. It was heartbreaking and made me want to see more Drag Race stars there. 

Bob the Drag Queen was at the top of my list of who I wanted to see from RuPaul’s Drag Race on The Traitors Season 3. Bob appeared in the 8th season and also won it. She is such a hilarious queen. I remember her being one of the funniest contestants on the show. I imagine her clowning around and being a hilarious addition to The Traitors.

With Britney, Bob, and a few other contestants together, this could be one of the most laugh-out-loud seasons of The Traitors. I know comedy fans are going to love Bob the Drag Queen.

Dylan Efron 

Dylan Efron is the younger brother of Zac Efron. He appeared in some shots of a few episodes of Down to Earth with Zac Efron. I don’t know anything about Dylan, because he’s not in the public eye like his brother, so he will be one of the contestants I have the least knowledge about going into The Traitors Season 3. I adore Claim to Fame, so I have a slight fascination with relatives of celebrities. Therefore, my excitement about Dylan comes from my curiosity about him.

I want to know how Dylan’s personality translates to reality TV. Will he become a breakout star? Will he fade into the background? How will the other contestants treat him because of his lack of reality TV experience? I am also just interested in his personality and maybe hearing one or two stories about Zac.

Chrishell Stause 

Chrishell Stause is an actress, reality TV star, and real estate agent. Many may recognize her from Selling Sunset, however, I don’t watch that show, so I have no knowledge of her personality in the series. But, I used to love soap operas and the main shows I watched were All My Children, Days of Our Lives, and Passions. I remember Chrishell mostly from her role on All My Children. I saw some of her appearances on Days of Our Lives, but I had basically stopped watching soap operas when she joined the series.

Because I loved AMC so much, I have vaguely followed her personal and professional life. I have also cheered for her success. I will probably never watch Selling Sunset, so The Traitors allows me to see Chrishell’s personality in a reality TV format. I have no clue whether she’ll be likable, the villain, or have another reality TV standard role. It’s exciting to finally watch her on a reality show.

The Traitors Season 3 is one of the upcoming 2024 TV premieres that I am so excited to stream whenever it premieres. The cast seems entertaining, but I am especially looking forward to the contestants I mentioned. They’re really going to elevate an already great show to new heights.

It's almost hard to believe, but we're almost done with the whopping 16th season of RuPaul's Drag Race... and that doesn't even include All-Star seasons. Widely considered one of the best reality shows of all time, Ru and company have spent years winning Emmy awards and amassing a huge fanbase. While there have been some concerns over Drag Race fatigue given how many US and international seasons are airing at any point, Season 16 changed its format for the final challenge. And I really need the new version to stick around.

RuPaul's Drag Race is formulaic by design, with every season giving a new batch of Queens the same type of challenges: improv, design, marketing, Snatch Game, etc.. The final challenge has also featured the same segments like the tic tac dinner with Ru and having the contestants speak to their younger selves. But all that changed with Season 16's most recent episode. 

To be clear: I love the show and have been watching since the very first episode aired on Logo back in 2009. That includes streaming seasons with a Paramount+ subscription. I've seen as big Drag Race winners were crowned, and watched all the ways the show changed. And it's because of this that I was actually happy to see certain segments cut from the final challenge episode, despite how popular they may be for other fans. 

The queens talking to their younger selves in particular felt a little stale as time went on. While this was originally an opportunity for the contestants to reflect on how fat they've come since being little LGBTQ+ kids, it started to feel a bit contrived. Indeed, it felt like some finalists had written and rehearsed this segment rather than letting it organically play out. 

The show rewards Queen who show their vulnerability. And after it became clear that they'd be asked to speak to a photo of their childhood self, sometimes it felt like the girls were trying too hard with their answers. And if finalists failed to produce tears, the edit wasn't exactly kind.

Obviously not all changes to Drag Race are created equal. Fans and Queens both spoke out when the show shifted to shorter episodes, so much so that the final few from Season 15 were extended by the network. But I think changing things up for the final few episodes will definitely help to keep things fresh.

As previously mentioned, RuPaul's Drag Race has become a global sensation, with a ton of different franchises airing at any point around the world. And Queens have been cast in shows like The Traitors and more. There's no indication that the series is going to slow down anytime soon, with fans expecting a new All-Stars cast announcement any day now. So we'll have to see if the recent changes to format stick.

Which Queens Lipsynced For The Win?

In RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World, things are a little different when it comes to the "Lipsync Battle". Rather than the two bottom queens fighting for survival, the two tops of the week lipsync for the win. Prior to the lipsync, the two tops pick from two lipsticks with the names of the bottom two queens on them. Whichever queen wins decides which queen is sent home based on the lipstick they chose.

Which Queens Have Been Eliminated So Far?

It's a great time to be a reality TV fan. Namely because Season 2 of The Traitors is here, which features familiar faces from some of the best reality shows of all time. The outstanding cast of Traitors Season 2 features familiar faces from Survivor, Big Brother, and The Challenge. The cast also includes Drag Race fan favorite Peppermint, who unfortunately ended up being the first person voted out. And there are 5 RuPaul's Drag Race queens that would kill it on a future season. 

Since the show is becoming wildly popular with Peacock subscribers, more folks are leaning how to watch The Traitors Season 2. I'm still disappointed about how Peppermint was received by the rest of the cast, but there are a number of her fellow Drag Race royalty that I'd love to see on the campy competition series. Here they are, in no particular order. 

Bob The Drag Queen

Bob the Drag Queen won the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, and has remained one of the most popular alums from the series. In the years since we've seen her use her platform as an activist, get acting gigs like Netflix's Tales of the City revival, and even produced and starred in the Emmy-winning series We're Here.

Having kept up with Bob's work, especially on We're Here and her podcast Sibling Rivalry, I think she's definitely savvy and emotionally intelligent enough to crush it on The Traitors. And since she's also best friends with Peppermint, I think she'd also be motivated to win the game on behalf of both of them. 

Delta Work

Delta Work competed on the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race, which was filled with real, organic drama within the cast. While she never returned for All-Stars, she did hair on the show for a few years, winning a 2018 Emmy in the process. 

Lately she's been working her own talk show Very Delta, with every new episode featuring a hilarious rant. After learning more about her unique perspective on life, I'd love to see how she'd play The Traitors, particularly if she was chosen as a Faithful. And she'd definitely be wildly entertaining, especially if she ends up having any arguments at the Round Table. 

Willam Belli

Willam Belli is perhaps one of the most infamous queen in all of RuPaul's Drag Race History. Back in Season 4 she became the first and only contestant to be disqualified for breaking the rules, and in the years since has become one of the most successful alums from the beloved competition series. That includes a make-up line, original music, stage performances, and a memorable role in A Star Is Born opposite Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Willam has a point of view that is wholly original, and is always thoroughly surprising and entertaining anytime she's on the screen. As such, I'd love to see her give a crack at The Traitors, where she would no doubt get plenty of airtime thanks to her quick wit and looks. Whether or not she successfully discovered a Traitor, smart money says it would make for great TV. Although given her street smarts, I think the "Boy is a Bottom" singer could actually crush. 

Shangela

Shangela has appeared as a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race three times, where she named herself the "Nancy Drew of Drag." So who else better to play a game of mystery and murder like The Traitors than her? Back in Season 3 she she proved herself as one of the mos  all-time strategic players Drag Race, which is why I'm dying to see what she might bring to the Round Table in a future season of The Traitors.

Like Bob the Drag Queen, Shangela was also on the first few season of We're Here as a host an EP. During that show's run we saw how she was able to connect with people, which is a valuable skill in a game like The Traitors. Shangela recently made history  competing on Dancing with the Stars, which means she's got even more reality TV fans who would like to see her on another series. Now get this girl on Traitors, and let her "hallelu" her way through the competition. 

Alaska

Alaska is another of the biggest stars to come out of RuPaul's Drag Race, and remains wildly popular amongst the show's rabid fanbase. After a killer performance in Season 5, she'd end up winning All-Stars 2 (which I think is the best season of the show's long run on the air). For those unfamiliar, you can stream both of those season with a Paramount+ subscription. 

Since then Alaska ended up participating in another reality competition series Scared Famous, where she would interact with reality royalty like Tiffany "New York" Pollard. This actually seems like the perfect training for The Traitors, which would presumably see her on another cast full of huge personalities. And since she's also watching the current season on Peacock, smart money says she'd come with a sound strategy to either suss out the Traitors or murder the Faithful, depending on what position in the game she's ultimately chosen for. Plus, who doesn't want to see her say "Hieeee!" as she enters Alan Cumming's castle for the first time? 

Bonus: Bring back Peppermint

Of course, the most obvious choice for a Drag Race alum to join The Traitors may already be in front of us. Namely Peppermint, who was among the Season 2 cast, and seemed to be a big fan of reality TV icons like Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine. While I was thrilled to see her join the fun, I was super bummed out that Pep end up becoming the first person voted out at the Round Table. 

Peppermint's elimination felt icky to me, as it seemed like Trishelle targeted her for almost no reason. I didn't feel comfortable with a trans Black woman being called untrustworthy so early into the game, and it felt like she was being scapegoated for an easy vote. Hi Barbie, indeed! Issa Rae was absolutely gorgeous in a cream-colored Pamella Roland gown. Crystals and pearls streamed down the floor-length dress, making the feathers sparkle, particularly on its wing-like long sleeves. The actress was making waves on social media as viewers said on X (Twitter):

You have to love a good baby bump moment on the red carpet, and as Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson prepare to welcome their first child, the Daisy Jones & The Six actress showed off her growing belly in a red Valentino dress that was to die for. The backless gown featured a large bow below Waterhouse’s stomach, and she wore her hair down in natural waves. Fans loved the look, writing:

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez straight-up dropped jaws when she arrived to the Emmys in a sheer Oscar de la Renta embellished with maroon sequins — 450,000 sequins to be exact, according to E!’s red carpet correspondent. She complemented the look with a statement necklace, dark lips to match her gown and velvet maroon heels. The fans voted and the results were unanimous:

RuPaul's Drag Race Cast

Every member of the RuPaul's Drag Race cast who appeared on the red carpet deserved a moment to shine, as it’s no surprise they went all out for their ensembles. However, Princess Poppy specifically garnered a lot of attention, dressing from head to toe as a green troll. When asked about what inspired the look, Poppy told EW:  

Princess Poppy certainly turned heads but not necessarily in a bad way. Several social media users were calling the fashion statement “iconic.” 

Sam Richardson

The dresses always garner the most attention at any red carpet, but you have to love when the guys make a splash too. Sam Richardson, who won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance on Ted Lasso, looked amazing in a textured white jacket with black shirt and pants. 

Aubrey Plaza

The most polarizing look of the night — well, green trolls not included — went to Aubrey Plaza, whose pastel yellow Loewe gown featured a giant sewing needle across the neckline. While some loved the unique look and its “don’t come near me or I’ll stab you” vibes, others didn’t quite get the ensemble, commenting:

The night featured a Grey’s Anatomy reunion that included Katherine Heigl, and Pedro Pascal giving an A+ response to Kieran Culkin’s zinger from the Golden Globes.

For more than a decade now, RuPaul's Drag Race has been entertaining audiences on the small screen. What started as the little Logo reality TV show that could became an Emmy-winning sensation that airs a number of new seasons every year. Given how many iterations of the show are in the ethos, a sum of beloved queens have been crowned and given the chance to prance down the runway as America's Next Drag Superstar. But there are 5 big winners who are taking the world by storm, here's what they're up to now.

Drag Race recently rapped Season 14 (with shorter episodes), and shortly after All-Stars 8 was available for fans with a Paramount+ subscription. You don't have to win the show to become a fan favorite character, but there are 5 winners in particular who I think are the Queens of The Kingdom. Let's break it all down.

Trixie Mattel 

This one might have been the most obvious choice for the list. Trixie Mattel debuted on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7, and was actually eliminated twice. While she didn't perform that well on the show, she became a fan favorite queen who had great success thanks to her webseries UNHhhh alongside Katya. That little series became a sensation, leading to wild fame a ton of fans for its two stars.

Trixie returned to compete on All-Stars 3, this time with more confidence, new make-up, and some fabulous custom outfits. She ended up winning that season, beating out strong competitors like Kennedy Davenport and Shangela. After that win Mattell basically worked non-stop touring, filming various shows (and a podcast) with Katya, and releasing four original albums. She also started Trixie Cosmetics, which is wildly successful. She even purchased and renovated a motel in Palm Springs, documenting it on the show Trixie Motel which is available with a Max subscription. Trixie is also a judge on Queen of the Universe. She's known for having the strongest hustle of the Drag Race Kingdom, and has shown no signs of slowing down. 

Bob The Drag Queen

Bob The Drag Queen was a frontrunner the minute she entered the Werk Room on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6. She was by far the funniest person on the cast during her interviews, and had an authentic feud with Derrick Barry (plus Lucian Piane). She ended up winning her first attempt at the crown, and has had a thriving career in the 9 years since the show aired. 

Since then Bob has appeared in a number of high profile projects. She's written performed and released multiple stand-up specials  and singles, and acted on the stage and screen including Netflix's Tales of the City reboot, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and even an appearance on The Simpsons. More recently Bob has produced and starred in in the Emmy-winning docuseries We're Here on HBO. And for years she's co-hosted the popular podcast Sibling Rivalry with another Queen from this list 

Jinkx Monsoon 

Jinkx Monsoon has a special honor that no other winner from RuPaul's Drag Race shares. Namely, she's the only Queen to have won the crown twice. After taking it home as the underdog of Season 5, she returned to the Werk Room for All-Stars 7, which featured a full cast of winners.

Fans have watched Monsoon's look progress in the years since Drag Race, as we got a more sophisticated version of her vintage cougar character. She's also gone to great success as an actress, vocalist, and comedian. She put out a bunch of original music and toured with her duo act Jinkx Monsoon and Major Scales. She recently wrapped a run playing Mama Morton Chicago on Broadway, which resulted in a huge rise in ticket sales. Following that Jinkx was cast in Doctor Who. Plus there's The Jinkx and Dela Holiday Special, which is available for annual rewatch with a Hulu subscription. Finally, she has her own podcast titled Hi Jinkx! with Jinkx Monsoon.

Monét X Change

Monét X Change competed on a whopping three season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Her first was back in Season 10, where she won Fan Favorite and placed 6th. She would return for All-Stars 4, where she and Trinity The Tuck made history as the first and only tie winners of the franchise. She came back to compete with all the winners in All-Stars 7, and made it all the way to the final lip sync against none other than Jinkx Monsoon.

Aside from her three strong performances on Drag Race, Monét has managed to build a thriving career out there in the real world. She stars in two different podcasts, Sibling Rivalry and Ebony and Irony, co-hosted by Bob The Drag Queen and the legendary Lady Bunny respectively. She hosted the Huluween Dragstravaganza alongside Ginger Minj, and had a role in Lovecraft Country and The Simpsons. She also hosted and executive produced her own talk show The X Change Rate. 

Alaska Thunderfuck

Alaska Thunderfuck is one of the most iconic Queens to ever compete on RuPaul's Drag Race. She first debuted back in Season 5, and was a finalist alongside Jinkx. She'd snatched the crown herself on All-Stars 2, which is what many fans believe is the best season of the entire franchise's history. And she's gone on to great things outside of that beloved reality competition series.

Alaska popped up for cameos in various season of Drag Race after winning, although she was noticeably absent from All-Stars 7. Instead she's been keeping busy recording and releasing original music, doing solo tours, and even performing in Head Over Heels at the Pasadena Playhouse. Her podcast Race Chaser is wildly successful, and launched an entire podcasting network where she's an executive producer. She also competed in the reality competition show Scared Famous, acted in the final Sharknado movie, and has appeared in a number of documentary projects. She was most recently featured in Drag Me To Dinner on Hulu, in arguably the best episode of the lot.

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 8 trailer

Darius Jeremy "DJ" Pierce, who is best known as Shangela, has been accused of sexual misconduct allegations. The report came after Daniel McGarrigle, a former assistant to Pierce on We’re Here, filed a lawsuit against the performer and the show’s production company, Buckingham Television, with the allegations on Thursday morning. Shangela, who is best known as a Ru Paul's Drag Race alum and the first drag queen contestant on Dancing With The Stars, has now publicly responded to the claims by denying them. 

McGarrigle alleged that Pierce raped him in February 2020 after they finished shooting on We’re Here, which is currently streaming with an HBO Max subscription. The former assistant claimed that after a wrap party, Pierce was “heavily flirtatious” with McGarrigle. He said that Pierce insisted on buying him drinks before asking him to come back to his hotel room to pack for a flight where the performer then gave McGarrigle poppers and raped him, despite resistance from McGarrigle. Here’s how Shangela responded, per a statement to Entertainment Weekly: 

Shangela shared that he was “disgusted” by “totally untrue allegations,” and shared intentions to push back against the lawsuit. As the drag performer continued: 

Daniel McGarrigle’s lawsuit also details that the former assistant felt fearful regarding reporting the incident, and "tried to maintain a cordial relationship with Pierce" until he decided to resign from the show in July 2021. McGarrigle previously made sexual assault allegations toward Shangela in a social media post that has since been deleted. Apparently, the show’s production company received a complaint in late summer 2021 and proceeded to launch an investigation which concluded with “insufficient evidence to support these allegations."

Shangela was cast in the 2010 second season of one of the best reality TV shows, RuPaul’s Drag Race, but was eliminated in the first episode. She later returned for Season 3 where she made the top five, and has continued to make cameo appearances since, along with competing in Season 3 of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars and RuPaul's Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular. 

When Shangela was chosen to be on DWTS, the performer revealed he texted RuPaul about it, who offered support. During the last season of the dance competition series, fans dragged Disney for not featuring Shangela in the series’ marketing prior to the drag queen and Gleb Savchenko finishing in fourth place during the Season 31 finale. 

It’s still early days for DJ Pierce’s sexual misconduct allegations. We’ll keep you updated on how the courts handle the serious claims. 

It's almost hard to believe it, but RuPaul's Drag Race has been on the air for well over a decade. What started as a scrappy show that could ended up being a global sensation that has won countless Emmy awards for its flagship series. Season 15 recently ended its run on MTV (albeit with shorter episodes), and while the finale was airing it as revealed that another season of All Stars was coming May 12 for those with a Paramount+ subscription. The cast has just been revealed, and the group of queens is truly giving me life. Although there are some Season 15 girls I'm hoping to see on All Stars in the future.

While the Drag Race fandom loves the original series, All Stars is fun because it's full of queens we know and love. They've also usually got way more expensive costumes and wigs thanks to their time on the road. The cast for All Stars 8 definitely look amazing in their newly-released promo looks from Instagram, which can be seen below. The cast is as follows:

Um sign, me up. This is a group of girl from all across Drag Race herstory, dating all the way back to Season 2 (which has always been my favorite). I'm looking at you, Jessica Wild! Add in plenty of strong personalities and even an international queen, and it seems like All Stars 8 is going to be a wild ride. Luckily, we don't have to wait long before the queens sashay onto our screen. You can check out their gorgeous promo image below, with every single one of them looking killer. 

Aside from seeing the queens with even more fabulous wardrobes (and usually at least a touch of plastic surgery), All Stars is always fun because it's a group of huge personalities. The casting department didn't miss with this gaggle of queens, and hopefully there will be a healthy amount of shade and drama involved in the forthcoming episodes. Let's break down some of the A+ choices. 

One queen guaranteed to make great TV is one Kandi Muse. On top of being funny in her confessionals, her battle with Tamisha Iman from Season 13 was one of the most iconic moments of that entire season. It was juicy enough that their voices can be heard in the intro for future seasons of Untucked. Darienne Lake also had delightful feuds with both Ben DeLaCreme and Courtney Act during Season 5.

There's also some girls on the cast who we didn't get to se enough of during their first time on RuPaul's Drag Race. Kahanna Montrese and Jaymes Mansfield both placed in 13th on their respective seasons, and have grown a ton since that time. I'm also thrilled about seeing Monica Beverly Hillz, Mrs. Kasha Davis, and LaLa Ri get a second chance. Let's just hope the latter queen stays away from paper bags this time. And with Jimbo on the cast there's also going to be a healthy amount of delightful chaos.

There are popular reality competition shows, and then there's RuPaul's Drag Race. The Emmy-winning series is about to end its whopping 15th season on the air, which doesn't include various spinoffs and international iterations. As a new winner is crowned, the fans are already looking forward to the next installment of All-Stars. And there are five Season 15 Contestants who I think need to be on a future season of RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars. Racers, start your engines!

Every new season of RuPaul's Drag Race is ferociously consumed by the fans. But for many of us, All-Stars is even more exciting. We get to see fan-favorite queens back on the runway, usually with far more expensive wigs and costumes (plus the occasional bout of plastic surgery). And there are a few queens from Season 15 who I think would be perfect, and including the first boot and even some finalists. Hey, it was a good group of girls!

Irene Dubois

Irene Dubois joins the likes of iconic Drag Race queens who were eliminated first, starting with the truly iconic Season 1 queen Victoria "Porkchop" Parker. Irene got the boot after her talent show act went off rather less well than she'd hoped, marking the first Season 15 diva to pack her bags, and in a much shorter episode. And as such, we didn't get to see much of her drag on the show; she didn't return until the reunion last week.

I was personally super bummed Irene Dubois go so early, and for a variety of reasons. Aside from her perspective on drag and clear makeup skills, Irene was great TV in Episode 1, throwing shade in both The Werk Room and her talking head interviews. This stands out in a time where a lot of contestants are too scared of fan backlash, and she'd no doubt help spice up a future season of Drag Race All-Stars.

Salina EsTitties

Speaking of Drag Race contestants with amazing personalities, Season 15 (which unfortunately didn't see the return of Kornbread) just wouldn't have been the same without one Salina EsTitties. Her name alone shows what a great sense of humor the 32 year-old entertainer has, and she was one of the most lovable and charismatic queens to compete in the most recent season. Honestly, that Free Willy reference she made during Marcia and Anetra's lip sync will forever live in my mind.

All queens end up having a glow-up when they return for RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars, thanks to seeing themselves on TV and earning way larger performance fees from the gigs. Since Salina got some flak from the judges on the runway, I bet she would come back with a vengeance for All-Stars. She's already a captivating performer, and you really can't come for her mug. Talk about a make-up artist. 

Marcia Marcia Marcia

While Salina was praised for her make-up during Season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race, the same was not true for Marcia Marcia Marcia. Another queen with a delightful drag name, she came relatively new to drag, but with a performing background that included the Off-Broadway production of Kinky Boots. And she showed off those skills in the Talent Show, as well as her lip sync performances throughout the season.

Marcia seems like an obvious choice to return for Drag Race All-Stars, if only because she was one half of Season 15's most amazing lip sync. Her battle against Anetra to Doja Cat's single "Boss Bitch" was absolutely thrilling, with the two queen showing off a ton of gymnastic and dancing talents. I have to assume that her work in Season 15 would light a fire under her for a future season. And smart money says her make-up would go through a transformation as well.

Luxx Noir London

Now we're getting into the portion of this list that includes finalists from RuPaul's Drag Race Season 15. These are the girls that we spent the longest with, and whose full wardrobe was on display on the main stage. While I'd love to see any of the four of them return for All-Stars, there are two in particular who want back on my TV screen soon rather than later.

Luxx Noir London is most certainly in that category. The 23 year-old New Jersey native came into the Werk Room oozing confidence, and immediately having a clash with Irene Dubois over the length of her human hair unit. Throughout the season she made countless references to Drag Race herstory, showing what a superfan she was before getting on the show herself. 

Luxx brought it to the runway every single episode, even bringing RuPaul to tears when rocking an homage to the Emmy winning host's past. She was also not afraid to clash with her fellow contestants, and was hilarious in her interviews. Add in her participation in various "gates" throughout the season, and she really provided everything you wanted in a Drag Race girl. Now make her an All-Star!

Mistress Isabelle Brooks

Personally, I have found Mistress Isabelle Brooks to be hands down the most entertaining queen from Season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race. In addition to being utterly gorgeous with a mug that simply won't quit, she was by far the biggest pot stirrer in the cast. That's not a read; it's actually part of why I'm watching the show to begin with. 

On top of narrating the season with her various "eras" (yes, I'm crediting her with Taylor Swift's current tour) MIB was absolutely killer in her interviews. She had the perfect way of commenting on the drama of the competition, while keeping me consistently laughing. Then there was her Werk Room drama with fellow contestants like Loosey Laduca, which were some of the most explosive moments of the entire season. But she also showed her softer side by sharing her family trauma, and adopting TikTok stars Sugar and Spice as her Drag Daughters. And now I want to see her clash with icons from other seasons, especially those who are also unafraid to read their fellow contestants. 

The most recent season of RuPaul's Drag Race aired on MTV, and it should be interesting to see where the next season of All-Stars ultimately lands. The franchise has a history of switching networks including Paramount+ and VH1, so only time will tell. In the meantime, check out the TV premiere list to plan your next binge watch.

Mama Ru’s drag competition has come a long way since 2009. Fourteen years on and you can’t swing a busted-ass wig without hitting one of a dozen international iterations, plus multiple spin-off series like Untucked where the queens serve piping hot tea following the judges’ critiques.

Most episodes feature both a mini and maxi challenge, favorite among them the queens “reading” their competitors to filth, imitating A to Zee-list celebrities in the iconic Snatch Game, or putting on an all-singing, all-dancing Rusical. And then they need to put together some gag-worthy looks for the runway. Following the judges’ feedback, the bottom two queens lip-sync for their mother-tucking life in the show's full-throttle crescendo, where they heartily emote and execute some jaw-dropping dance moves to avoid being sent home.

Presenting a vibrantly diverse LGBTQ+ cast, the hit franchise is a joyful celebration of the art of drag with an uplifting message of self-acceptance, now found at its new MTV home. RuPaul: shantay you stay!

Best Reality TV Shows On Demand: Watch The Bachelor

It's the dating TV series of your dreams. Since 2002, ABC’s phenomenally popular show has helped brooding bachelors try and find their “forever person” from a pool of about 30 equally eligible – and just a little thirsty – women. It's a positive petri dish for young romance in which the contestants vie to win the bachelor’s hand in marriage.

Those the bachelor might be compatible with he grants a rose so they can get to know each other better, with the producers providing them with candle-lit dinners, magical trips abroad, and later on even an evening alone in the Fantasy Suite. But eventually the bachelor has to make the pained decision of who to offer his final rose to – and hope that, unlike Clayton Echard, he’s not publicly rejected on national TV.

The Bachelor has spawned 27 seasons, a rabid fanbase, and a dozen spin-offs. Despite its fairy-tale format, though, it’s often most compelling when demonstrating the messy nature of romance: from jealous bickering among competitors, to the lead declaring that “I think I’m in love. I’m in love with three women.” Well, that’s amore!

This Bravo channel behemoth grew out of from The Real Housewives of Orange County back in 2006 to take over the world. It appears that, as each season ends, multiple new versions of the show emerge, something like the unstoppable, multi-headed hydra of Greek mythology. 

The series offers a highly addictive, imitable format: focusing on a group of wealthy socialites and female friends in various cities whose grievances the show’s producers quietly ignite.

Combining the suburban drama of Desperate Housewives with the reality TV format, this “docu-soap” franchise drops viewers into the daily lives and dilemmas of well-heeled women from myriad backgrounds, with different versions of the show taking place from New York to Beverley Hills, Atlanta to Athens, Washington D.C. to Dubai.

It’s escapist TV of the highest order as these affluent women enjoy the jet setting, fine-dining lifestyle. But, even when nestled in the lap of luxury, the housewives carry a grudge better than a Louis Vuitton bag: there’s no shortage of bust ups and shade exchanged between these warring besties.

This British dating game show continues to get viewers hot under the collar, being one of the UK’s top-rated TV series. And the lure of love – and the chance of winning £50,000 for the victorious couple – has singletons lining up to spoon with someone special on the island of Mallorca.

Hosting as of 2023 is radio DJ and presenter Maya Jama, who’ll keep passions in check as islanders couple up and engage in games and challenges that either expose the cracks in their relationships or make plain the depth of their affection, like the contentious Snog, Marry, Pie or a round of Mr and Mrs.

And over the course of eight weeks, this bunch of scantily clad hotties find themselves torn between love, loyalty, greed and lust while trying not to give everyone the ick. The show’s most dramatic twists occur after a stay at Casa Amor, the infamous villa in which half the islanders meet a raft of sexy new suitors. Will they kiss someone else? Will they stick with their current partner? Or will they be left un-coupled and booted off the island?

Best Reality TV Shows On Demand: Watch Family Karma

This endearing addition to Bravo's reality TV roster debuted in 2020, charting the close bonds between several Indian-American families who moved to Florida at around the same time. With heart and humor it documents the intergenerational differences between a group of young, affluent best friends and their fairly traditional parents, who, more than anything, are just dying to see them married off.

It's a fascinating glimpse into a clash of cultures, although the group's dilemmas are pretty universally relatable. Much to his wife Richa’s amusement, class clown Vishal is scared witless of his disapproving mother-in-law; fashion entrepreneur Anisha is constantly hounded to provide her parents with grandchildren, while free-spirited best friend Bali is considered a rule-breaking, glamorous “Insta-auntie”.

There’s plenty of Bravo-style drama here. But there’s also a touching unity and tolerance throughout too. That’s epitomised by this community's acceptance of Season 3’s marriage between Amrit Kapai and Nick Kouchoukos, whose three-day same-sex wedding in Atlanta celebrated an inter-faith union too.

There are popular reality competition shows, and then there's RuPaul's Drag Race. What started as a small show on the channel Logo has become an Emmy-winning global sensation that's in the midst of its 15th Season (not counting All-Stars and special events). As a result there is a strong, vocal fanbase which has high standards for the show. Case in point: Drag Race cut down its runtime for Season 15 after its move to MTV, and the queens and fans alike aren't having it. 

Over the past few years, typical episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race were 90-minutes long including commercials, and was promptly followed up by the backstage after show Untucked. But this season it's a regular hour block, resulting in just 42 minutes (ish) of footage. This has resulted in way less mirror chats in the Werk Room, and a super abridged version of each episode's runway. And this isn't a change that folks are responding to. That includes current contestant Salina EsTitties, who took to Twitter as both a fan and queen herself. She posted:

Some serious points were made. Plenty of Drag Race girls have gotten themselves into mounds of debt in order to accrue all the looks required for a season. Season 15 has a whopping 16 contestants, meaning that they probably had to get even more looks together than normal. And they deserve their screen time. 

Being a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race is a notoriously expensive investment. While the early seasons allowed for the contestants to shop off the rack or re-wear items from their closets, the standards have become way higher in recent years. Now Queens are expected to create/commission custom outfits for each category. And this is what makes the shorter runtime, and abbreviated runway, so frustrating for those girls.  

The fans are mad too, and plenty of them are sounding off online, usually in the forms of memes. Below is one example, where a Drag Race fan offered a funny clip equating just how quickly the episodes are paced with the new runtime.

As previously mentioned, the most obvious place example of the new runtime for RuPaul's Drag Race has been coming during the Runway section of the show. During this time contestants each get their own time to strut their stuff and show off fashions, as the panel of judges offer one liners and puns about each look. But in Season 15, it's been cut down-- especially since there are so many queens still in the competition. Another fan posted an A+ meme reacting to this, check it out below: 

So why exactly is RuPaul's Drag Race so much shorter in Season 15? One of the most popular theories seems to be the show's move to MTV. And specifically the way the new network is trying to drum up interest for the new Housewives-esque show called The Real Friends of WeHo. 

That new show is being sandwiched in between Drag Race and Untucked in hopes of getting viewers, and the fandom is pretty livid about the situation. There was also backlash about the men who were cast in Real Friends, and social media has not been kind to that project. Check out one viral tweet about the situation:

Fan concern about the shorter runtime of RuPaul's Drag Race became increased given that the next episode will feature a whopping 14 queens participating in the Snatch Game. That challenge usually happens further into a season, when there are 8-10 girls still left. So how exactly are we going to see so many performances in just 42 minutes? One fan posted a funny predication about how quickly it's all going to go back, check it out below:

We'll just have to wait and see how the rest of Season 15 goes down, and if there's any response from the network/producers about fan backlash. Obviously there will be more time for the runway and mirror chats once this season of Drag Race goes on, but these early episodes are going to no doubt be jarring for the hardcore fandom.

Spooky season is upon us, leading many people to watch and re-watch some of the best horror movies of all time. Some exciting Halloween content is arriving for those with Hulu subscriptions, including the new Hellraiser movie and the streaming special Huluween Dragstravaganza. The cast includes plenty of iconic drag performers including the great Manila Luzon, who totally had a RuPaul’s Drag Race flashback while filming her part in the holiday special.

Manila Luzon is a three-time competitor on RuPaul’s Drag Race, first debuting back in Season 3. During this time she won a newscaster challenge, serving as the interviewer for the fictional QNN. So it definitely piqued my interest when Manila was once again behind a news desk for Huluween Dragstravaganza. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege to speak with her and Ginger Minj (who also has role in Hocus Pocus 2) about their roles in the new spooky special, where I asked Miss Luzon how she felt about the new project mirroring her time on the Race. As she told me,

Clever girl. It’s been a number of years since RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 was filmed, and Manila Luzon has grown as an artist and drag performer. And while she once feared teleprompters, she now sees the luxury of not having to memorize one’s lines. Talk about a life hack.

Manila Luzon’s comments help to get a peek behind the curtain on projects like Drag Race and the Huluween Dragstravaganza. While she got her biggest feature performing the track “The Next American Slasher” alongside Jujubee and Mo heart, Manila and the rest of the cast also did other side sketches and features throughout the holiday special’s 41-minute runtime. or one of them Manila plays ZNN newscaster Fluffy McDaniels, to hilarious results.

Later in our same conversation, Manila Luzon further explained why it was important to overcome her Drag Race fears when portraying Fluffy McDaniels for the Huluween Dragstravaganza. Namely because while using a teleprompter made her exempt from memorizing lines, it also made sense for the character. As she told me,

“QNN News” was the fifth episode of Drag Race Season 3, and saw Manila Luzon in the same team with her fellow Heathers Raja, Delta Work, and Carmen Carrera. Manila interviewed reality TV icon Kristen Cavallari, and ended up being the winner of the maxi challenge that week. Much to the dismay of co-star Shangela, who is currently competing on Dancing with the Stars.

In the end this one would be one of three wins for Manila Luzon in RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3. She would be the first runner-up and would later compte in both All-Stars and All-Stars 3. She also participated in multiple seasons of Drag U, and had a small role in the holiday special The Bitch Who Stole Christmas.

The month started with a bang for those with a Hulu subscription, as the streaming service released a special on October 1st starring Drag Queens and Kings called Huluween Dragstravaganza. The fun project is co-hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Ginger Minj, who compared filming the Hulu special to last year’s made-for-TV movie The Bitch Who Stole Christmas.

Ginger Minj is the reason for the season this Halloween, as she’s got a role opposite Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus 2, in addition to starring in the Huluween Dragstravaganza. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with Ginger ahead of the special’s release, where I asked her to compare the experience of filming that to VH1’s The Bitch Who Stole Christmas. She opened up about these two different Holiday projects, telling me:

Well, there you have it. It looks like the process of filming Huluween Dragstravaganza was a unique experience to filming her previous holiday special for Ginger Minj. The distinctions became clear as early as the casting process, and the way the Hulu original was crafted around the cast of Drag performers. Luckily Minj has a killer role in both of these projects, which are great for re-watching during their respective holidays.

While The Bitch Who Stole Christmas was a classic made-for-TV movie that aired on VH1 last winter, the Huluween Dragstravaganza is a very different streaming project. In it we see Ginger Minj and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Monét X Change serve as our hosts, singing and dancing their way through the various chapters of the streaming special. Ginger is playing herself this time around, which no doubt helped it feel “organic” as she described.

Later in our same conversation, Ginger Minj clarified how much fun she had while filming The Bitch Who Stole Christmas, which saw her sharing scenes with the one and only RuPaul. She also explained the biggest difference between these two holiday specials, sharing:

Points were made. Huluween Dragstravaganza does feel like a classic TV variety show from the past with a drag twist, as it’s not a plot-driven movie, but a series of musical numbers and sketches. And through it all Ginger Minj is there to guide the audience through their journey, and bring her many talents to the stage.

As previously mentioned, RuPaul’s Drag Race fans were delighted to see Ginger Minj also have a role in Anne Fletcher’s acclaimed sequel Hocus Pocus 2, dressing up as Winnifred Sanderson and getting some fun moments with Bette Midler herself. Meanwhile, Huluween Dragstavaganza sees Ginger collaborate with Drag icons like Manila Luzon, Lady Bunny, JujuBee, Jackie Beat, and Mo Heart (among others).

Minor spoilers ahead for Hocus Pocus 2.

Spooky season is officially upon us, with the festivities ushered in by the long-awaited release of Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+. The streaming sequel brought back the trio of legends as the Sanderson Sisters, was full of awesome easter eggs, and also featured a bunch of fresh talent. That includes three alums from RuPaul’s Drag Race, who dress up as the witches during one scene: Season 14’s Kornbread Jeté, Season 13’s Kahmora Hall, and three-time competitor Ginger Minj. And Ginger recently shared a sweet Bette Midler story from the set of Hocus Pocus 2.

Ginger Minj is a fan favorite from RuPaul’s Drag Race, and she’s having a busy month this October. On top of appearing in Hocus Pocus 2, she’s also one of the hosts of Huluween Dragstravaganza, which is special coming to Hulu at the first of the month. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with Ginger and fellow Drag Race icon Manila Luzon about the streaming event, which is when I asked about her experience working with the legendary Bette Midler on the critically acclaimed sequel. She revealed a sweet story about Midler advocating for her on set, telling me:

What a class act. While Bette Midler was busy leading the cast of Hocus Pocus 2 decades after the original movie, she still took the time to make sure her drag counterpart Ginger Minj looked her best in the highly anticipated sequel. After all, drag makeup requires the right lighting and cinematography to properly read on camera. Luckily the Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner has known a drag queen or two during her years treading the boards.

Film sets are notoriously grueling, and it sounds like Hocus Pocus 2 was no exception in that regard. Night shoots are known to be exhausting, especially while one is also dealing with cold temperatures. But that didn’t stop Bette Midler from bringing it as Winnifred Sanderson (including in the emotional finale), or making sure that her co-stars get the appropriate lighting.

Later in our conversation, Ginger Minj further went on to explain this once-in-a-lifetime interaction with Bette Midler. The two got to share an intimate moment while cameras were resetting, and the Drag Race legend was taught an important lesson in the process. As she put it,

Talk about a pinch me moment. Not only did Ginger Minj get to share the screen with Bette Midler, but she was clearly able to learn a great deal from the experience. And to top it all off, the First Wives Club star personally Ginger under her wing during their time together. It sounds like she’s going to take that lesson to future film sets.

As previously mentioned, Ginger Minj is also hosting the Huluween Dragstravaganza alongside RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Monét X Change. The special features musical numbers and sketches, with the cast including more drag legends like Lady Bunny, Manila Luzon, Jackie Beat, and Mo Heart.

Hocus Pocus 2 is streaming on Disney+ now, and Huluween Dragstravaganza will follow suit October 1st on Hulu. In the meantime, check out the 2022 movie release list to plan your next movie experience. 

The Her Universe fashion show has been a fan-favorite part of San Diego Comic-Con going back to 2014, but the event hosted by Her Universe founder and Star Wars actress Ashley Eckstein hasn’t been in-person since 2019. After missing 2020 due to the COVID pandemic and then returning for a virtual presentation in 2021, the fashion show will soon be back in San Diego with the theme of “Coming Home.” This time, RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Nina West is joining Eckstein as a co-host, and Eckstein shared with CinemaBlend how their collaboration came about.

Nina West is a drag icon known for her appearance in Season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race as well as her music, activism, and advocacy. There can be no doubt that she’s a great fit for the geek couture fashion show coming to SDCC on July 21, but how did the connection with Ashley Eckstein of Star Wars: The Clone Wars come about? Eckstein opened up, saying:

Ashley Eckstein and Nina West’s friendship doesn’t go back to RuPaul’s Drag Race or any of Eckstein’s many popular Star Wars projects, but because of their mutual support for Nationwide Children’s Hospital and On Our Sleeves. The actress previously told CinemaBlend how working with Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the On Our Sleeves movement helped with the planning for Star Wars Mindful Matters; as it turns out, the Columbus-based hospital and movement brought her and West together for a very good cause. 

Eckstein continued, explaining what fans and SDCC attendees can expect from them teaming up as Her Universe Fashion Show co-hosts: 

Surprises are in store with the 2022 Her Universe Fashion Show and its theme of “Coming Home,” but the preview of multiple coordinating outfits for Ashley Eckstein and Nina West is definitely intriguing. With the return to an in-person event, the fans and the geek couture designers will get the full experience with the runway and hosts.

The 2022 Her Universe Fashion Show returns to San Diego Comic-Con with geek couture designs from 26 designers on Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. PT in the Harbor Ballroom of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The event is free for all attending SDCC, and welcomes people of all ages. Ashley Eckstein confirmed that the fashion show is following the Comic-Con protocols when it comes to the audience wearing face masks, but the performers on stage had the option to either go maskless or incorporate a mask into the design. 

You can also revisit Ashley Eckstein’s work as the voice actress of Ahsoka Tano with all seven seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and all four seasons of Star Wars Rebels available with a Disney+ subscription. Season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race featuring Nina West is also available streaming for Paramount+ subscribers.

Over the years, Pride Month has become a beautiful and all-encompassing celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community and everything it has done to make the world a better place for everyone, no matter their sexual identity, race, ethnicity, or religious preference. A great number of people honor the momentous occasion by participating in rallies, parades, and other events, but there are other ways to celebrate Pride Month, like checking out great LGBTQIA+ movies and shows on some of the best streaming services. 

So, in honor of Pride Month, we have put together a breakdown of what the major streaming platforms are doing to honor the occasion, including movies, TV shows, documentaries, and other specials that touch on a variety of topics and highlight different voices. Here are just a few of the options you can watch as we celebrate Pride Month.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon’s Pride section is full of great titles that honor different aspects of the LGBTQIA+ community. With an Amazon Prime subscription, you can access all the titles listed below as well as countless other movies, TV shows, and documentaries that range from comedy to drama and everything in between.

Bottoms (2023)

In 2023, Emma Seligman turned the teen sex comedy genre on its head with Bottoms, a biting satire following two teenage girls (played by Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri) who set up a fight club at their high school with the sole purpose of hooking up with cheerleaders.

One of the best Gen-Z coming-of-age comedies, this hilarious yet thoughtful comedy finds the perfect balance between crude humor and social commentary, creating an unforgettable and enjoyable experience in the process.

Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)

One of the biggest Amazon original movies of the past couple of years, Red, White & Royal Blue follows the first son of the United States (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and the spare to the British throne (played by Nicholas Galitzine) as they go from enemies to lovers after a public relations disaster. However, they are forced to keep their relationship a secret to not disrupt things for their respective families.

This beautifully crafted book-to-screen adaptation took the world by storm following its release, and for good reason. With great messages about following your heart and being true to yourself, there’s a lot to take away from it.

This Is Me (2015)

Released in 2015 in response to the successful Amazon original series, Transparent, This Is Me features a collection of short documentaries from five trans and gender-nonconforming filmmakers who touch on different aspects of their lives and personal journeys. Each documentary ranges anywhere from five to six minutes, with each having its own structure, tone, and message.

Disney+

The Disney+ Pride collection consists of three different sections — movies and shorts, series, and “Pride episodes” — that tackle a myriad of topics centered on the LGBTQIA+ community with everything from some of the best Marvel movies like Eternals, shows like Glee, and the titles we’re highlighting below. 

Growing Up (2022)

There are a ton of great documentaries and docuseries on Disney+, and Growing Up is one of them. Released back in 2022, this series created by Brie Larson and Culture House spent 10 episodes focusing on coming-of-age stories that are different in the sense that they follow different teenagers and 20-somethings, but similar in that they all dive into the experience of life.

Eye-opening as it is enchanting, this experimental and engaging docuseries is a great way to celebrate all aspects of the human experience.

Out (2020)

One of the best entries in Disney+’s Sparkshorts animated anthology series, Out follows Greg, a young man who has yet to come out to his parents. Though his attempts to keep his secret from his parents have been successful for the most part, a random visit from his mom and dad quickly changes things. 

What follows is a short, sweet, and transformative (quite literally) adventure that ends with a great lesson that can be enjoyed by all.

Howard (2020)

One of few titles saved from Disney+’s May 2023 purge, the 2020 documentary, Howard, tells the story of Howard Ashman, the lyricist behind movies like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. This film is a touching love letter to the late songwriter and the animated films he helped make into classics.

Pride From Above (2023)

The 2023 National Geographic documentary, Pride From Above, takes you on a globe-trotting adventure to some of the biggest Pride events on the planet. The history of the phenomenon, as well as in-depth looks at those epic parades and displays of creativity, are on full display in this documentary.

The Little Prince(ss) (2021)

Released as part of the Disney+ Launchpad program in 2021, The Little Prince(ss) is a short film about a young Chinese boy who makes a new friend at school. But when the new friend’s father doesn’t understand and refuses to accept the boy’s feminine behavior, the two classmates, and their friendship, are put to the ultimate test.

Moonlight (2016)

Barry Jenkins’ 2016 Best Picture winner is a film that everyone should watch at least once in their lives, if not more. Centering on the life and struggles of Chiron (Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, and Alex R. Hibbert) as he tries to find out who he is and his place in the world, this beautifully written and shot coming-of-age drama is a treasure.

The Last Of Us (2023 - Present)

HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us is arguably the best video game show (or movie) of all time. Not only does it faithfully recreate one of the most beloved and successful horror games of the 21st century, but it also gave audiences “Long, Long Time,” a touching one-off episode about the unlikely connection and beautiful relationship shared by two survivors.

A landmark event in terms of storytelling and production, The Last of Us not only meets the hype, it exceeds it in every possible way.

Dicks: The Musical (2023)

Based on the off-Broadway sensation, Fucking Identical Twins, Larry Charles’ 2023 musical, Dicks: The Musical, centers on a pair of twins as they go to great lengths to get their parents back together. But, that’s where things get weird. Very, very weird.

What follows is one of the funniest, strangest, and most messed up musicals you’ll see on the big screen, or any screen, really. It’s wild, it’s heartfelt, and you’ll never look at a sewer the same way again.

Transhood (2020)

Released in 2020, Transhood is a feature-length documentary that spends a considerable amount of time with four transgender children – ages four, seven, 12, and 15 – as they, and their friends and families, attempt to navigate life and “redefine coming-of-age” in Kansas City.

Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel (2022)

One of the best options for fans of Jerrod Carmichael, the comedian’s 2022 HBO comedy special, Rothaniel, is as poignant and raw as it is hilarious. Over the course of the 50-minute routine, the remarkable artist leaves nothing on the table and lets out his biggest, and most personal revelation to date.

Hulu

Once again, Hulu is home to a plethora of LGBTQIA+ content. In the past, we pointed out titles like Pride, Changing the Game, and Love, Victor, and this year we have even more movies and shows to check out as you celebrate Pride Month. Let’s take a look at just three of the titles worth watching with your Hulu subscription.

Fire Island (2022)

If you’re looking for a sexually explicit Hulu movie that pushes all kinds of boundaries, Fire Island is going to do the trick. Andrew Ahn’s 2022 romantic comedy is loud, proud, and vulgar as all hell with a story that’s pretty much a balls-to-the-wall take on Pride and Prejudice.

When a group of friends go to Fire Island, where anything and everything can happen, they find themselves on an eye-opening and unforgettable experience for the ages.

Boys Don’t Cry (1999)

Kimberly Peirce’s 1999 biographical drama tells the story of Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank), an American trans man at the center of one of the darkest and most tragic moments in the LGBTQIA+ movement. The movie is undeniably unsettling, but it’s also a story that we need to hear to better understand the world around us.

All Of Us Strangers (2023)

All of Us Strangers, Andrew Haigh’s adaptation of Taichi Yamada’s Strangers, follows a lonely screenwriter (played by Andrew Scott) as he strikes up an intimate relationship with his neighbor (played by Paul Mescal) while also attempting to come to terms with his parents’ passing decades earlier.

What follows is a mesmerizing and transfixing experience as a man begins to have detailed and lifelike visions on his journey of self-discovery and acceptance.

Pose (2018 - 2021)

Set in 1980s New York City, the FX musical drama series, Pose, dives head-first into the Big Apple and its booming ball culture, as well as all the interconnected lives of its most prominent figures.

Netflix

Netflix is constantly coming out with new and special features for subscribers, and in June 2024, the popular streaming service is offering up a Pride Month collection that highlights some of the best movies, shows, and specials on the platform. Here are some of the titles available for anyone with a Netflix subscription. 

Rustin (2023)

A must-watch Black movie for Pride Month, Rustin tells the story of Bayard Rustin (Colman Domingo) as he attempts to find himself and his place in the world leading up to the iconic March on Washington. This touching portrait of the oft-overshadowed civil rights activist is stunning in its scope and scale, though it never loses its intimacy or careful touch.

Nyad (2023)

The 2023 Netflix original biopic, Nyad, follows swimmer Diana Nyad (Annette Bening) as she attempts to swim the Straits of Florida, a passage between Florida and Cuba. Though the monumental feat is a major part of this story, it’s not the only part, as the film dives deep into the testy relationship shared by Nyad and her former partner, Bonnie Stoll (Jodie Foster). 

What follows is a triumph of both human endurance and human spirit, as the aging swimmer pushes through the surf to make history and make something of herself.

Nimona (2023)

One of the best 2023 animated movies, Nimona was saved by Netflix, and the world is a better place because of it. This Oscar-nominated film, which is set in what can best be described as a futuristic medieval world, follows a disgraced knight (Riz Ahmed) and a mysterious shapeshifter (played by Chloë Grace Moretz) who can help him clear his name. 

Filled with tremendous animation and some great LGBTQIA+ themes, this is a movie that resonates.

Sex Education (2019 - 2023)

The Netflix original series, Sex Education, centers on Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), the awkward teenage son of a sex therapist (Gillian Anderson) who takes his mother’s work and findings to open a sex therapy clinic at his high school and helps his friends and classmates overcome a myriad of issues.

Pray Away (2021)

The 2021 documentary, Pray Away, follows former leaders and survivors of a conversion therapy program as they come to terms with their respective roles in the movement and speak out against the very tactics they once used long ago.

Carol (2015)

Todd Haynes’s 2015 historical romantic drama, Carol, centers on the forbidden relationship shared by a glamorous and wealthy woman (played by Cate Blanchett) and a young, aspiring photographer (Rooney Mara) in 1950s New York City. Going against the status quo and sticking their noses up at social norms, the pair risk it all for a shot at love.

Rocketman (2019)

One of the best music biopics in quite some time, Rocketman tells the story of Elton John (Taron Egerton) as he transforms himself into a musical pioneer and pop culture sensation. Detailing the good, the bad, and everything in between of the Grammy-winning singer’s life and career, Dexter Fletcher’s inventive musical paints a brilliant picture of the man, the myth, the legend.

Mean Girls (2024)

Much like the original 2004 film and the Broadway musical on which this movie is based, Mean Girls is a celebration of being yourself and breaking free from the social norms and constraints of high school. Empowering, hilarious, heartfelt, and filled with some catchy tunes, this is a reimagining that truly breaks the mold.

Three Months (2022)

The 2022 comedy, Three Months, follows high school senior Caleb (Troye Sivan) as he finds out he has been exposed to HIV just before his graduation. During the three-month period between exposure and finding out his definitive results, the South Florida teenager attends a support group and strikes up an unlikely romance.

RuPaul’s Drag Race (2009 - Present)

RuPaul has long been one of the most recognizable and iconic drag queens around thanks to his electric personality and multiple TV shows. One of the best is RuPaul’s Drag Race, the long-running competition series that sees contestants transform themselves into incredibly fabulous personas that rival the famous drag queen.

Peacock

And then there is Peacock, which offers those with a Peacock subscription access to tons of great movies, shows, and documentaries. The library of titles is vast and encompasses all kinds of genres. Here’s just a small sampling…

Queer As Folk (2022)

In 2022, Peacock brought back Queer as Folk with a new reimagining of the classic British TV series of the same name. Set in New Orleans instead of Manchester, England, this drama series spent eight episodes with a diverse group of friends impacted by a devastating shooting at their beloved nightclub. They attempt to pick up the broken pieces of their lives while making sense of the world around them.

Brokeback Mountain (2005)

In 2005, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal played friends-turned-lovers in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain. One of the biggest movies of the early 2000s and a conversation starter for years to come, this decades-spanning romantic drama paints a beautiful picture of two rugged cowboys who just can’t quit each other, no matter how hard they try.

TransAmerica (2021)

The 2021 special, TransAmerica follows journalist Joe Fryer as he dives into and breaks down various state laws that discriminate against transgender citizens as well as lawmakers, allies, and others who are making great strides in making the country a better place to live in for everyone, no matter their sexuality or identity.

Light In The Water (2018)

Light in the Water tells the story of the West Hollywood Aquatics Club, the first openly gay swim team and polo team, from its humble beginnings in 1982 all the way into modern times with a focus on its members and how they made an impact on the sports community and society as a whole.

This is just a very small portion of all the great LGBTQIA+ stories that are worth checking out even after Pride Month 2024 has come and gone.

It’s 10s across the board for Kerri Colby. The RuPaul’s Drag Race star not only performed alongside pop diva Jennifer Lopez at the iHeart Radio Music Awards - she also donned Jlo’s iconic green Versace dress to do it. 

Kerri Colby joined Jennifer Lopez at the 2022 iHeart Radio Music Awards ceremony to perform a medley of the songstress’s biggest hits. The former's costume? None of ther than the very same Versace dress JLo made famous in the early 2000’s. Take a look below: 

Kerri Colby and a line-up of past and current RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants — including LaGanga Estranja, Morgan McMichaels, and Jorgeous — were in attendance to perform in honor of Jennifer Lopez. (You can watch those fan-faves in past seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race with your Hulu subscription or your Paramount Plus subscription.) The Grammy-nominated singer, who was on hand to receive the iHeart Radio Icon Award, also took to the stage alongside a chorus of drag queens and back-up dancers to deliver an energetic performance. In addition to Colby, each drag entertainer wore a look inspired by one of JLo’s most famous outfits. 

The medley was inspired by ball culture, with Pose star Billy Porter opening the set in a fuschia suit. Kerri Colby and her drag fellows each strutted downstage in a voguing soul train of epic proportions before the lights came up on none other than Jennifer Lopez herself. She quickly ditched her cream fur coat to reveal a slinky black ensemble that was perfect for the fierce song-and-dance number that had her current beau Ben Affleck cheering from the audience. No green Versace dress for JLo this time around - but then again, she’s already made history in that particular garment. 

Jennifer Lopez originally wore the patterned gown to the 42nd Grammy Awards in February of 2000. Designed by Donatella Versace, the silk chiffon look featured long, flowing sleeves and a scandalously low-cut neckline that extended well past her belly button. The dress was an instant hit and is credited with cementing Versace’s return to the mainstream after the death of founder Gianni Versace. A version of it is on display at the Grammy museum, although it’s reported that JLo still has dibs on the original. 

Which begs the question: how did Kerri Colby get her hands on one of the few duplicates that Versace ever made? It’s all about who you know. She told Entertainment Weekly that she had a ‘friend with connections in the fashion industry’ who managed to score the coveted piece. Kerri Colby also managed to secure the sleeveless version Jennifer Lopez wore on the Versace Spring 2020 runway. She may have left too soon on Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, but Kerri Colby’s star quality is undeniable. Jennifer Lopez certainly thinks so.

Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté started off Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race with a bang. The South Carolina native impressed guest judge Lizzo during the very first maxi-challenge in the season premiere, and her signature sense of humor helped her stand out from the crowd - which is why fans were so shocked when the latest episode revealed that Kornbread’s time on Drag Race had come to an end after an ankle injury put her on the bench. Now, she's opening up about her departure and whether she'd return for Season 15.

Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté, a major presence on Instagram, discussed her stunning departure from RuPaul’s Drag Race during  a recent interview with Billboard. The drag queen was already a fan favorite, which made it even more tragic when she was forced to leave during the fifth episode of Season 14 after rolling her ankle. So what exactly went down? Kornbread explained:

The challenges on RuPaul’s Drag Race often require an elevated level of physicality that can often lead to injuries, especially when the participants are wearing six-inch heels. The fierce contestant gave a hilarious performance on the Super Tease challenge, but her commitment to the role caused her to roll her ankle during filming. Unfortunately for “The Snack,” that meant she had to take some time off to recuperate.  

Recent seasons of the Emmy-winning reality show have been full of drama, including some casting backlash after the show’s first heterosexual male contestant was cast. However, Kornbread isn’t the first queen to go down with the ship. during Season 9, Eureka O’Hara tore her ACL after a cheerleading-inspired challenge and was invited back to compete on Season 10. After Jeté’s announcement, fans immediately wondered if RuPaul would extend the same offer. So will she get to slay another day? She revealed: 

It’s devastating to see Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté go, but let’s keep our fingers crossed in the hope that the drag gods will bring her back for a well-deserved second chance in Season 15. If you wanna be on Drag Race, you gotta get with Melanie C. The English songstress, better known as the Spice Girls' Sporty Spice, just appeared as a guest judge on the new reality spin-off RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Versus The World to share critiques and words of wisdom for the new contestants. Along the way, she found the time to throw some epic shade at her former bandmate Victoria Beckham - and the fans couldn't get enough. 

In the series premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Versus The World, Spice Girl Melanie C used her platform as guest judge to serve lewks and poke fun at Posh Spice, a.k.a Victoria Beckham. Check out the clip below: 

Melanie C, who has also spoken candidly about her fellow pop stars in other ways, informed British contestant Baga Chipz that she was giving off Posh Spice vibes in her talent show performance, although her vocals were a marked improvement over Victoria Beckham’s during her stint as a pop star. [Explosion sounds.] Melanie C even used Baga Chipz’ signature catchphrase from Season 1 of Drag Race UK, proving that she’s a bona fide fangirl. She also compared Baga Chipz’ lip-syncing skills to that of the Spice Girls. It may not actually have been a compliment, but it sure was funny. 

While Melanie C’s jibe was all in good-natured fun, the fans were clearly living for the pop music-fueled drama. Some wondered if, unlike the mantra repeated in “Wannabe,” friendship isn’t forever:

None of the other Spice Girls have fired back so far, though, so it’s likely they all just shared a good laugh. And for the most part, Drag Race fans were more than happy to simply cheer on the pop diva. In this Twitter user’s eyes, Melanie C’s appearance was top of the class:

The Season 14 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race featured a variety of firsts for the Emmy-winning reality show. In addition to being the first season to feature two trans women of color (Kornbread "The Snack" Jeté and Kerri Colby) as contestants, Season 14 was also the first to host a heterosexual male drag queen in the form of Arkansas native Maddy Morphosis. The backlash that came from the casting decision, however, seemed to have blindsided the self-proclaimed camp queen. 

In an interview with Out, Maddy Morphosis reacted to the fan backlash that erupted when her casting was announced (she uses she/her pronouns as Maddy and he/him pronouns out of drag). She said: 

Why was Maddy Morphosis’ casting so contested? While the show has featured many shocking moments, fans had a specific concern. Many took umbrage at the fact that a white cis man was given the opportunity to compete when trans and BIPOC contestants have historically been overlooked or underrepresented. The casting pool for RuPaul’s Drag Race has been limited in the past, but more recent seasons have been expanding their horizons.  

Certain fans of the show may not be totally enamored with Maddy Morphosis, but the comedy queen has garnered some support from other past contestants. Season 13 finalist Gottmik, the first trans male participant, revealed that they had received some negative online feedback after their casting and spoke out in support of Maddy Morphosis. Their sentiment “drag is for everyone” certainly seems to be echoed by the current casting of Season 14, but Maddy Morphosis is definitely aware of the discrimination that some entertainers can face outside of RuPaul’s Drag Race. On Instagram, she said: 

With the inclusion of both trans women of color, trans men, nonbinary people, and even straight cis men like Maddy Morphosis, it seems as though RuPaul’s Drag Race is beginning a new chapter in contestant diversity. Only time will tell if the casting team continues to "cast" a wider net.

Start your engines, RuPaul’s Drag Race fans: there’s a new competition in town. After the Season 14 premiere became one of the series’ highest-rated debuts in years, drag legend RuPaul has another Drag Race spinoff that will gather together some of the world’s finest charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent and draw serious interest from potential judges.

The core show may be commonly referred to as the ‘Olympics of drag,’ but the latest spin-off seems to be more deserving of the title. Entertainment Weekly has reported that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Versus The World will feature nine queens who have all been featured in past seasons of the show. The contestants will duke it out for a yet-to-be announced grand prize and a global crown. The format has not been confirmed, but it will presumably follow the established model of maxi challenges and weekly eliminations. 

Out of the plethora of Drag Race spinoff series, five will be represented on UK Versus The World. As the "host country," the United Kingdom has the most contestants vying for the top spot. Drag Race UK alumni Baga Chipz, Cheryl Hole, and Blu Hydrangea will all be playing on the home team for merry old England. They finished Season 1 in 3rd, 4th, and 5th place, respectively. 

On the side of the United States will be veteran Jujubee, as well as Season 10/All Stars 4 alum Mo Heart (who previously went by the name Monique Heart). Jujubee will be an extremely familiar face to longtime viewers, having competed on Season 2 of the original Drag Race and on Seasons 1 and 5 of All Stars. She was also a contestant on the first season of Queens of the Universe, a reality show best described as a combination of RuPaul's franchise and American Idol. 

Two past contestants from Canada’s Drag Race will also be up for the crown: Season 1 graduates Lemon and Jimbo. LIke their British counterparts, they left the competition fairly late in the game but did not manage to snag a runner-up title. The cast is rounded out by Janey Jacké from the inaugural season of Drag Race Holland and Pangina Heals from Drag Race Thailand. Oh, y’all wanted a twist? Pangina Heals was actually a judge on the first season of that show, not a contestant. She’ll be the first ever contestant to have judged an iteration of the show before entering the competition.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be RuPaul’s Drag Race without RuPaul. The Emmy-winning television personality will return to judge the series alongside Michelle Visage, Graham Norton, and Alan Carr.

The queens are back, back, back again. The hit reality competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race has officially kicked off Season 14, and fans are thrilled to see the new line-up of prospective drag superstars. They were also agog to see that the main guest judge for the season premiere episode was none other than pop superstar and expert flutist Lizzo.

The Season 14 premiere of the Emmy Award-winning RuPaul’s Drag Race hit VH1 last Friday. In addition to introducing seven fierce new queens, the episode also featured one absolutely stunning guest judge. Lizzo, the singer behind hits like ‘Juice’ and ‘Truth Hurts,’ hit the mainstage to serve stunning looks and honest critiques in equal measure.

Fans were, understandably, thrilled. Though Lizzo gave herself a thorough introduction, fans immediately recognized the pop goddess:

Fans also commented on Lizzo's futuristic outfit - after all, this is RuPaul's Drag Race we're talking about. Lewks are not just an optional dress code, they're an absolute necessity. Styled by Marko Monroe and reminiscent of Tina Turner's 'Thunderdome' look from the 'We Don't Need Another Hero' music video, Lizzo shined like a mirrorball in her silvery mesh extravaganza. Fashion mavens were quick to take note: 

Lizzo also endeared herself to the viewers when she praised instant fan-favorite Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté, who she dubbed a ‘supernova.’ Longtime Drag Race judge Michelle Visage wasn’t quite eating up everything Kornbread was serving, but Lizzo and drag legend RuPaul were more than happy to shush her in favor of applauding the future challenge winner and South Carolina native. 

Lizzo delivered such a memorable performance on RuPaul's Drag Race that even past contestants gave her a social media shout-out. BOA (also known as Bitch On Arrival), an alum of Season 1 of the spinoff Canada's Drag Race, attested that Lizzo might snag herself a spot in the Top Four. 

While most fans are more than familiar with Lizzo in the year 2022, there was a time when the ‘Cuz I Love You’ songstress wasn’t making headlines. One Twitter user noted that Lizzo had actually appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race as a guest judge in an episode of Season 10. However, she wasn’t the headlining act that she is now; instead,  at the time, Lizzo was unknown to many Drag Race fans (although the lip sync was indeed to ‘Good as Hell’). Now, Lizzo is a superstar worthy of a season premiere, and this fan got a little emotional:

The second half of the season premiere will air on January 14 and introduce the next seven queens that will compete for the title of ‘Next Drag Superstar’. Subsequent episodes will combine the first two casts. 

The latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race involved multiple surprises, and they are the good kind! Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson made an appearance in the April 2 episode, surprising the five remaining contestants. However, that wasn’t the only twist that was in store for them, as the actress’ husband, Colin Jost, crashed the appearance.

Actor and Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost crashed new wife Scarlett Johansson’s appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Johansson had chatted with the contestants on a video call in the Werk Room, where she shared her best acting advice to help them prepare for a new challenge. However, when the call was ending, she asked if anyone had any more questions, to which hubby Jost popped onscreen.

Colin Jost’s appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race was a surprise to not only the contestants but fans watching the episode. And while it was quick, it was very memorable as it seemed ScarJo wasn’t expecting her hubby to crash her appearance, either. It was nice seeing the two together as they aren’t too public with their relationship, except for the times it’s hilariously referenced on Saturday Night Live.

Over the years, RuPaul’s Drag Race has managed to get some major names to appear as celebrity guest judges like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera and Nicki Minaj, and they’ve asked Cher, Madonna and even Dolly Parton. Although Scarlett Johansson wasn’t a celebrity judge, it was still great to see her and hear the advice and stories she had for the aspiring drag queens, as well as Colin Jost’s attempt to know more about the drag scene and the queens involved.

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost got married last fall after two years together and initially meeting on the set of Saturday Night Live. The two had a small and intimate wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic but it didn’t stop them from declaring their love for each other.

While Scarlett Johansson’s highly-anticipated Black Widow won’t be coming out until July after being delayed yet again due to the pandemic, Colin Jost can currently be seen in the new Tom & Jerry movie, both in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. Though who knows? Maybe Jost will return to RuPaul’s Drag Race to get more knowledge of the drag world and be a celebrity judge along with wife ScarJo. But after their appearances, who will be next to surprise the remaining contestants and will there be another crashed appearance?

It’s so nice to see celebrities give advice and tell their stories to aspiring performers, no matter what they want to do. Especially if you’re someone who has had a career as extensive and iconic as Scarlett Johansson and as hilarious as Colin Jost.

Throughout her career, Anne Hathaway has had a knack for making her roles her own. Whether she originated a part, like Mia in The Princess Diaries, or brought her own unique spin to an iconic role, like Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, she’s shown us time and again why she’s one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. So it might be shocking to learn that one of her most prominent roles ever, Andy in The Devil Wears Prada, wasn’t supposed to be played by her. In fact, it’s not even that she wasn’t the first choice -- she wasn’t even the second or third.

During a surprise virtual appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Anne Hathaway took some time to answer questions from the contestants. Rose asked the actress if there was ever a momentshe had to fight “tooth and nail” for during her career, and her answer (via Harper’s Bazaar) was pretty shocking:

While this revelation is definitely a great reminder that perseverance can pay off big time, it’s also pretty shocking. Harper’s Bazaar notes that we already knew Rachel McAdams was the top pick to play junior personal assistant (and bad boyfriend magnet) Andy in The Devil Wears Prada, but she turned the role down.

That still means there were seven other actresses that were in line for the iconic role before Anne Hathaway. That may seem a little hard to fathom, but The Devil Wears Prada was released a few years before the actress won the Oscar for Les Miserables. While she’d already proven herself to be a box office draw with the Princess Diaries series, she was only just beginning to make the transition into the more adult phase of her career.

Of course, it’s impossible not to be curious about who the other actresses were and why the casting team for the movie ended up choosing Anne Hathaway. Whatever the reason, it was the right choice -- The Devil Wears Prada instantly won over critics and fans when it was released in 2006. It was a huge box office success and, to this day, fans are clamoring for a sequel.

Even if Anne Hathaway hasn’t had a chance to revisit the role that helped solidify her role in Hollywood, she’s clearly carried the role as an important part of her career. She even got to revisit some of her fondest Devil Wears Prada memories recently when she reunited with co-star Stanley Tucci on the set of their movie The Witches. There, she admits, she realized how much both their lives and careers have changed since their first movie together was released.
