It’s been 11 years since Sandra Oh starred on Grey’s Anatomy (apparently causing Shonda Rhimes a bit of grief), and pretty much ever since then, fans have been wondering if and when we’ll see Cristina Yang again. The series’ 22nd season is set to hit the 2025 TV premiere schedule this fall, and once again the actress addressed a potential comeback, giving quite a thoughtful response in the process.

Sandra Oh has said she gets asked about a Grey’s Anatomy return all the time, and despite her basically saying it’s never going to happen, I’ve remained thick-skulled enough to continue holding out hope for Cristina to reunite with BFF Meredith Grey. Oh has put a lot of thought into it over the last decade, and it sounded like she was warming to the idea when she was asked about it again at a New York Times event this month. She said (via People):

Don’t get too excited, though because, unfortunately, the answer remains the same as it’s always been. She continued:

Of course, that’s not the answer that Cristina Yang fans want to hear, but I really respect and appreciate her line of thinking. She understands how badly we want her back and how important that character is to us, but she’s moved on. To force herself back into that role would be doing a disservice to herself, the character and the fans.

Sandra Oh has not shied away from talking about how hard the Grey’s Anatomy set was for her, especially in the early days. She described her sudden loss of anonymity as “traumatic” when she, Ellen Pompeo and their co-stars skyrocketed to fame in 2005. Her anxiety and the pressure she put on herself began affecting her physical health.

The actress’ final episode of Grey’s Anatomy was the Season 10 finale in 2014 — “Fear (of the Unknown)” — in which Cristina dances it out with Meredith one last time before leaving for Zürich and her new job at the Klausman Institute for Medical Research.

Rumors began spreading almost instantly that she was making a comeback, even after she shut them down, voicing her commitment to Killing Eve, a role that — like Grey’s Anatomy — earned her a Golden Globe Award and several Emmy nominations. It also changed TV forever.

Sandra Oh has continued to stick to her guns, insisting that Grey’s Anatomy is behind her, and the fact that she’s given it so much thought is really a sign that it’s time for fans to make peace with moving forward. Even if she won’t appear on Season 22 this fall, however, we can still relive Cristina Yang’s 10-season run — or any of our other favorite Grey’s Anatomy eras — with all 21 seasons available to stream with either a Netflix subscription or a Hulu subscription.

Ever since Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey danced it out one last time in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 10 finale, fans have been hoping that Sandra Oh will one day return to reunite with her twisted sister. That has yet to happen, even as the medical drama prepares to enter its 22nd season this fall on the 2025 TV schedule, and while the actress has called her experience with the show “traumatic,” she recently admitted that she caused some “grief” for those around her.

Sandra Oh gave the commencement address at Dartmouth College on June 15, where she spoke to graduates about what a great learning experience it can be to live with discomfort. That’s something she apparently got from Grey’s Anatomy, which she said was one of the most beneficial but challenging decades of her life. Oh continued (via EW):

Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo were among the OG cast members of Grey’s Anatomy when it premiered in 2005. And the fact that the actors don’t always have a say in their storylines is a lesson that Pompeo was still coming to terms with in Season 21, as she said she was “deeply against” one of the choices made by Meredith. If it's still that way today, one can imagine that two decades ago, Oh didn't know how to give the writers the creative license they needed.

She said there was even a “dedicated Sandra whisperer” whose job it was to “deal” with her. This led to what sounds like a pretty intense phone call between her and Shonda Rhimes, as Oh continued:

It was reportedly Dartmouth alum Shonda Rhimes who recommended Sandra Oh for the commencement address, and you have to imagine she approved of this sentiment.

Learning from her discomfort doesn’t sound like a very pleasant process, though. The Quiz Lady star has spoken openly about the health issues she suffered due to the stress on Grey's Anatomy, but at least it sounds like she was able to take valuable lessons away from the experience. Now we’ve just got to get her back inside Grey Sloan Memorial.

Lucille Ball

I Love Lucy has been one of the most enduring hits in the history of television. It's been on TV both in the first run when it first aired in 1951 and in reruns ever since. Almost the entire time TV has been in people's homes. Of course, that's all because of the brilliant Lucille Ball's performance as Lucy. She's a one-of-kind legend we're unlikely to see the likes of again.

Roxie Roker

Over the course of her incredible career, Roxie Roker broke new ground everywhere she acted, whether it be on the big screen, the Broadway stage, or, as Helen Willis on The Jeffersons, on television. The most important thing Roker did on TV seems so antiquated now that it's hard to believe, but when she was on a hit CBS show, she was actually the first Black actress to appear on a TV show in a relationship with a white man. It was a huge deal.

Carol Burnett

Not only is Carol Burnett one of the funniest women in TV history, but she's at or near the top of the list of the funniest people, period. Her eponymous show was a groundbreaking sketch comedy show and she not only paved the way for more female comedians to have their own show, she paved the way for enduring sketch comedy shows like Saturday Night Live

Betty White

There are few actors more beloved than Betty White. When she died just shy of her 100th birthday in 2021, the outpouring of grief from fans was incredible. It wasn't just for her roles on legendary shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Golden Girls, but for her whole career in television back to its earliest days.

Shonda Rhimes

Many of the women on this list are here for what they've done in front of the camera. Shonda Rhimes is here for what she does behind the scenes as one of the most prolific show creators of all time. Not only is she one of the first women to be so successful as a TV producer, but she's one of the first Black women to do it, making it doubly important and groundbreaking.

Ellen DeGeneres

It's obvious why Ellen DeGeneres is on this list, but that doesn't mean we should overlook the obvious. When DeGeneres came out as a lesbian on her sitcom in 1997 it was actually earthshattering. It shouldn't have been and today, something like that would hardly be blinked at and that's all because she had the guts to do it when she did.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag does something that few shows have done before it - it's an unflinching look at the life of a single woman and by doing that it, it automatically less of the cultural taboo it's been for far too long. It's weird that it's taken so long for something like this be a cultural stone, but at least we're here now.

Barbara Walters

In the TV news business, there is no more groundbreaking figure than the legendary Barbara Walters. As a news broadcaster, reporter, interviewer, and panel host, Walters did many things no woman before her had ever done. It's hard to downplay just how much of a trailblazer Walters was during her amazing career.

Marta Kauffman

As the producer and co-creator of Friends, Marta Kauffman showed the world that a woman could create what was, at the time, the biggest show in the world. It wasn't a show "for women," Friends was a show for everyone and few shows have seen the kind of popularity Friends had - and continues to have today with its endless life on streaming.

Mary Tyler Moore

Without The Mary Tyler Moore show, we might not have had other trailblazing shows like Murphy Brown, or Ellen, or Fleabag. Mary Tyler Moore did it first and, for many, still did it best. Before he blazed a trail on her own, she was also an early hero on The Dick Van Dyke Show. She truly made it on her own on TV.

Jane Curtain, Lorraine Newman, And Gilda Radner

It had to be hard for the three women in the original "Not Ready For Prime Time Players" on Saturday Night Live, Jane Curtain, Lorraine Newman, And Gilda Radner. The show felt like a frat house at times and there they were, consistently as funny or funnier than the frat bros that made up the rest of the amazing cast. Talk about groundbreaking.

Cicely Tyson

Cicely Tyson's first television role came in 1961 and her final appearance came just before her death in 2020. In between she starred in literally 100s of episodes of television and often was the first and only Black woman on those shows and episodes. There aren't enough words to explain how important she was for every Black woman who came after her on TV.

Peggy Charren

Activist Peggy Charren is different than most on this list. She wasn't an actress, nor did she even work in the television industry. Instead, she was an advocate for the children at home watching. It's because of the work of Charren that kids had the option to watch informative and educational TV, and not just corporate drivel made to sell more sugary cereal to them. Anyone who grew up loving Sesame Street or The Electric Company has Charren to thank, at least in large part.

Katie Couric

It's hard to believe that it took until 2006 for a major network to have a female lead anchor, but it's true. That woman was, of course, Katie Couric and for that alone, she should forever be remembered as a groundbreaker. She's done so much more as well, so it's not the only thing she'll be remembered and appreciated for.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia Louis-Dreyfus' career has been nothing short of spectacular. She is one of very few people, much less women, to have won more than 10 Emmy Awards, for her work on not one, not two, but three hit shows. Seinfeld, The Old Adventures of New Christine, and Veep have all been great in large part due to her talent and hard work.

Irna Phillips

On her Wikipedia page, Irna Phillips is described as a scriptwriter, screenwriter, casting agent, and actress. In reality, she kind of invented the entire genre of the soap opera in the 1940s, first on radio and later on TV. She was the first to really pinpoint women as a target audience and write and create shows geared towards them. Daytime TV would be very different if not for Phillips.

Diahann Carroll

Diahann Carroll isn't the most famous person on this list and that's kind of weird because her contribution to TV is huge. Her groundbreaking role as the lead in Julia showed that Black actors, especially Black women, could be a whole more than just maids or other stereotypical roles they typically played before Julia debuted in 1968.

Candice Bergen

Even before she blazed a new trail in Murphy Brown as the first woman on TV to express the desire to raise a child as a single mom, Candice Bergen was breaking ground on TV. She was the first female member of the SNL Five-Timers Club, for example. As the lead on Murphy Brown, she won so many Emmys (five) that she started declining invitations to give others a chance at the career boost a win provided.

Bea Arthur

Like her cast mates on Golden Girls, Bea Arthur was a true trailblazer. For starters, she is one of few women in Hollywood who served in the active military during World War II as a marine. Once she got to Hollywood, she played by her own rules which eventually landed her a recurring role on All In The Family in the early '70s, tackling some of the biggest issues of the day. That led to the spinoff Maude where she was unflinching in her pursuit of bringing women's liberation issues to the forefront on prime-time TV, including such political hot topics as sensitive as abortion in the early '70s.

Oprah Winfrey

Of all the entries on this list, the one who might need the least introduction is Oprah Winfrey. Starting with a small locally-produced talk show on TV called AM Chicago and later simply The Oprah Winfrey Show, Winfrey built a massive media empire and became one of the biggest moguls in television. Her empire reaches across all forms of media these days and she's among the richest people in the world. And then there are all the cars she's given away...

Nichelle Nichols

Nichelle Nichols was the sole woman in the original Star Trek cast and she more than held her own. Not only was she an equal member of the Enterprise crew, she was an equal member of the cast. On the show, Nichols' character Uhura shared an on-screen with Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) which was one of the first, and most famous example of an interracial kiss on network television. It seems simple, but it was incredibly groundbreaking at the time.

Donna Reed

There were plenty of family-focused sitcoms on 1950s television. What set The Donna Reed Show apart is evident by its name. It was one of the first shows that focused on the mother, played by Donna Reed, as the primary character of the show. This wasn't Father's Knows Best or My Three Sons. Reed was the star and the main character. Additionally, she was no mere wallflower. She was a strong, independent-minded mother and wife who had a full life as a homemaker and mother and audiences saw it all, not just June Cleaver doing the dishes while wearing her pearls.

Laverne Cox

Orange Is The New Black star Laverne Cox wasn't the first transgender woman on TV, but she was one of the most visible as part of such a huge hit. Cox, and her character were remarkable not only because she was was transgender but because her character Sophia dealt with problems that weren't just because she was transgender, but because she was also human locked up in prison. Sophia wasn't simply a one dimensional character, she was much more than her gender. That was, and still is, rare.

Jodie Whittaker

If she does nothing else in her career (and that is unlikely), Jodie Whittaker will forever be known for being the first female Doctor on Doctor Who. That alone makes her incredibly groundbreaking and worthy of inclusion on this list. There was even a time when critics and fans thought that such a thing would be impossible. Whittaker has been remarkably popular and has proven all the doubters wrong.

Marlo Thomas

Like many instances on this list, it's hard to believe that there was ever a time when it was shocking to even consider an entire television show focused on an unmarried woman. Of course, there was a time when that was true, but that was before Marlo Thomas starred in That Girl starting in 1968. The show, which was actually a little controversial at the time was all about Thomas' character moving to New York to try to make it in show business.

Debbie Allen

Debbie Allen is probably best known as the star of the TV version of Fame (and a small role as the same character in the movie), as well as a judge of So You Think You Can Dance. But Allen's accomplishments run so much deeper than that. She is one of the most prolific TV directors of the last few decades and was the choreographer for the Oscars for a decade. She's had an amazing career on both sides of the camera.

Kerry Washington

It's really hard to wrap one's head around the fact that between Julia, starring Diahann Carroll, which ended in 1971, and Scandal when it started in 2012 (created by Shonda Rhimes), there were no TV shows with a Black female lead. Kerry Washington changed all that when Scandal became a huge hit and ran for six seasons on ABC.

Lynda Carter

Who says girls can't be superheroes? Well, today we know all too well that women can not only be superheroes, but they can lead franchises as such. Back in the late '70s, that was an open question that was answered by Lynda Carter who helped turn Wonder Woman into a hit show that ran for three seasons and then became a staple of syndication for years after.

Sandra Oh

It seems like Sandra Oh has been around forever. She got her big break as part of the cast of Arliss on HBO, then found more fame as a member of the cast of Grey's Anatomy. Her groundbreaking moment came in the titular character in Killing Eve. When she did, she became the first woman of Asian descent to lead a show in the United States. Remarkably it took until 2018 for that to happen. Like all the other women on this is, she proved there are still trails to be blazed.

Pauline Frederick

Pauline Frederick was a groundbreaking female reporter with ABC and NBC during her career. She covered major events like World War II and the Vietnam War, first on radio and then as one of the first female reporters on TV.

Mary Kay Stearns

Like the TV network it was first broadcast on, The DuMont Network, Mary Kay Stearns, and her sitcom Mary Kay And Johnny has mostly been lost to time. Few people remember the show or the network and that's too bad, because both were groundbreaking. In fact, Mary Kay And Johnny was the very first sitcom ever aired on broadcast TV when it debuted in 1948. Mary Kay Stearns starred with her real-life husband Johnny Stearns and not only was it the first sitcom, but it was the first show to feature a pregnant woman and the first to show a married couple sleeping in the same bed.

Viola Davis

As an EGOT winner, Viola Davis has proven over and over what a powerhouse actor she is, no matter where it is. Whether on stage, in film, or on television, she is one of the best to ever do it.

Most TV and movie fans would probably agree that Sandra Oh has had an amazing career so far. Her time on the mega-hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy (which will return for Season 21 on the 2024 TV schedule) turned her into a beloved star, and has led to a number of movie roles and other television shows, including Killing Eve and her HBO mini-series with Robert Downey Jr., The Sympathizer. Oh, however, has been a working actor for far longer than some would realize, and her reaction to being told she hasn’t aged since her pre-Grey’s days is definitely A+.

How Did Sandra Oh React To Being Told She Hasn’t Aged Since Her Pre-Grey’s Anatomy Days?

Even if you’ve never watched Grey’s Anatomy before, first of all, shame on you, but second of all, you still likely know who Cristina Yang is. Sandra Oh made the driven and sarcastic surgical intern the perfect ally for Meredith Grey (though she admits working on the show was “traumatic”), and after a bit of a rough start, they quickly became the “twisted sisters” and each other’s “person,” endearing Cristina (and Oh) to millions of fans.

Recently, Oh appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her new movie, Can I Get a Witness, and part of the celebration included a showing of her first film, Double Happiness, which was originally released 30 years ago. Afterward, this prompted an interviewer from eTalkCTV to ask the Quiz Lady star, “Girl, how do you look the same?” and Oh’s A+ response is truly priceless. Take a look:

Man! Do I ever love that laugh! Not to mention the fact that Oh laughed so hard that she had to take a step back and get low to maintain her balance. I also really appreciate that she followed it up with a very strong, but still humor-filled, “Noooo! No,” before admitting that watching her very first movie and one she filmed in 2023 back-to-back was “crazy.” But, I also love how she wrapped it up by saying:

The joys of perspective, mature hindsight and fully growing into your power, amirite? Thankfully, she seems to be past the health struggles that accompanied starring on Grey’s Anatomy.

If you haven’t seen Double Happiness (shame on you again, but you can easily rectify this miscarriage of justice), it’s a wonderful film that sees Oh play 22-year-old Jade, an actress who’s trying mightily to live her own life but not disappoint her Chinese family, who are very traditional. You can definitely see some seeds of Cristina in her performance as Jade, and her critically acclaimed work in the classic absolutely foretold the fame to come for its young star.

Though she will likely never return to Grey’s (especially now that Meredith’s mostly said goodbye to Seattle), Oh will always be remembered for giving fans an incredibly memorable character with lots of great moments, and for looking great while doing it.

Matt Damon

In his movie debut, a very young Matt Damon can briefly be seen in 1988's Mystic Pizza as Steamer Windsor, the younger brother of Adam Storke's Charles, the clean-cut, country-club love interest of fun-loving pizzeria waitress Daisy (Julia Roberts). Steamer is present at an awkward dinner where Charles brings Daisy home to meet the family. 

Viola Davis

In the 1998 crime comedy Out of Sight, which is undoubtedly one of Steven Soderbergh's best movies, Viola Davis has a small role playing Moselle Miller, the wife of boxer Maurice "Snoopy" Miller (Don Cheadle). She would later go on to act alongside her Out of Sight co-star Jennifer Lopez in another crime flick, 2015's Lila & Eve.

Philip Seymour Hoffman

The 1992 Martin Brest melodrama Scent of a Woman memorably stars Al Pacino as a blind retired colonel and Chris O'Donnell as the prep-school student hired to watch over him, but it also features Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his earliest performances as a fellow student named George Willis, Jr.

Carey Mulligan

The Bennet household is a bustling one in Joe Wright's 2005 adaptation of the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice, so much so that you might have overlooked that — along with the likes of Keira Knightley, Rosamund Pike and Jena Malone — a teenaged Carey Mulligan is one of the Bennet sisters. (It's just one of many movies that prove Mulligan should be a much bigger star.) 

Elijah Wood

Long before he embarked on a quest to destroy the One Ring as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, Elijah Wood was a successful child actor in films like The Adventures of Huck Finn, The Good Son, North and Flipper. However, before those starring roles, the pint-sized performer showed up as "Video Game Boy #2" in Back to the Future Part II.

Octavia Spencer

The 1999 Drew Barrymore comedy Never Been Kissed is jam-packed with unexpected actor appearances, from Jessica Alba to James Franco — together they play a dopey but popular high school couple — to Octavia Spencer. The latter plays a coworker of the main character Josie Geller (Barrymore) at the Chicago Sun-Times. 

Timothée Chalamet

With everything that goes on in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar — you know, that whole part about the astronauts who have to travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for humankind — viewers may have forgotten that a fresh-faced Timothée Chalamet as Tim, the teen son of Matthew McConaughey's Cooper. 

Brie Larson

Well before she received an Oscar or donned a superhero cape, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson was a tween actress who had a main role in the short-lived WB sitcom Raising Dad. One of her first big-screen gigs, however, was as a popular Six Chick in the 2004 Jennifer Garner favorite 13 Going on 30. (Don't feel too bad, Mark Ruffalo didn't remember her either.) 

Charlize Theron

If you're a fan of The Wonders, you no doubt remember band members Guy (Tom Everett Scott), Lenny (Steve Zahn), Jimmy (Johnathon Schaech) and the bass player (Ethan Embry). However, you may not so readily remember that Charlize Theron is also in That Thing You Do!, as Guy's ex-girlfriend Tina, who leaves him for her dentist. 

Joe Manganiello 

Before making the ladies sweat in the Magic Mike franchise, Joe Manganiello was making Peter Parker sweat for an entirely different reason in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film series, playing the high-school bully Flash Thompson. His character dated Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane before she ended up with Spidey himself (Tobey Maguire). 

Seth Rogen

The titular teen protagonist of Donnie Darko (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) doesn't just have to deal with those disturbing visions of a rabbit-costumed man named Frank. He also has to deal with a pair of high school bullies, one of whom is played by Seth Rogen in his first ever movie appearance. 

Amy Adams

The Steven Spielberg-directed crime comedy Catch Me If You Can featured several now-well-known actresses before they were household names, including Ellen Pompeo, Elizabeth Banks and Amy Adams. The latter acted opposite Leonardo DiCaprio (played teenage con artist Frank Abagnale Jr.) as Brenda Strong, a young hospital worker who falls for Frank and his fraud. 

Keira Knightley

Given her uncanny resemblance to Natalie Portman, it's only fitting that a teenage Keira Knightley appeared as Sabé, a handmaiden and royal decoy for Portman's Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Even Knightley herself could use a reminder about who she played in the space trilogy!

Michael Fassbender

Years before memorable film roles in Inglourious Basterds, Jane Eyre, the X-Men movies and his Oscar-nominated turn in Shame, Michael Fassbender made his film debut in the 2006 action epic 300. He played the character of Stelios, a young, spirited and highly skilled Spartan soldier fighting under Gerard Butler's King Leonidas.

Sandra Oh

"Gupta? Mhm. Mhm. Mhm. The queen is coming!" It's one of the most memorable lines uttered in The Princess Diaries and it's said by none other than a pre-Grey's Anatomy Sandra Oh. Joining Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews in the beloved cast, Oh plays the humorous vice principal at Mia Thermopolis's school. 

Margot Robbie

Before her big breakout in The Wolf of Wall Street — and even longer before she painted the world pink with the phenomenon that is Barbie — rom-com fans got their first introduction to Margot in the 2013 romantic dramedy About Time. Samuel L. Jackson

It's hard to remember a time when Samuel L. Jackson wasn't a major movie star, but in the 1970s and '80s, the iconic actor was racking up bit parts in big titles, including Eddie Murphy's Coming to America. In the 1988 rom-com, Jackson plays a character known as "Hold-Up Man," an armed robber who has held up the local fast-food restaurant called McDowell's five times. 

Kristen Stewart

Though she has been acting professionally since grade school, Kristen Stewart didn't become a global star until she played moody teen Bella Swan in 2008's vampire romance Twilight. But years before that, she played a memorable part in the 2002 David Fincher thriller Panic Room, appearing opposite Jodie Foster as her character's daughter. 

Dakota Johnson

\Dakota Johnson had her big Hollywood breakthrough leading a beloved book-to-film adaptation, as Anastasia Steele in the erotic Fifty Shades film series. But she actually showed up in another huge movie five years earlier: 2010's The Social Network, as a college coed who spends the night with Sean Parker, played by Justin Timberlake. 

Gabrielle Union

Before she led the Clovers to cheer competition victory in 2000's Bring It On, Gabrielle Union was given supporting roles in '90s teen favorites like 10 Things I Hate About You and She's All That. The latter was actually her film debut, in which she appeared as popular girl Katie, a member of Zack Siler's (Freddie Prinze Jr.) friend group. 

Nicolas Cage

Technically, Nicolas Cage wasn't in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But Nicolas Coppola was — when he made his feature film acting debut in the 1982 coming-of-age comedy, the actor was still going by his birth name. However, the Oscar-winning star would later change his name professionally to avoid nepotism allegations. (He is, of course, the nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire, and a cousin of director Sofia Coppola and actor Jason Schwartzman.)

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp memorably made his big-screen debut in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street, but movie fans might not remember that a short while later, he also appeared in Oliver Stone's war film Platoon as a young soldier fighting in the Vietnam War alongside the likes of Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, Forest Whitaker and Kevin Dillon. 

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman has had a prolific acting career ever since she was a tween, starting from when she starred as the young protégée of a hitman in the 1994 action film Léon: The Professional at only twelve years old. Though that was an instantly memorable introduction to the performer, you might have forgotten that only a year later, she worked alongside screen greats like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the Michael Mann-directed classic, Heat. 

Tom Holland

He's most famous for spinning webs as Spider-Man but long before that, Tom Holland was making his film debut (and making audiences weep) in the 2012 disaster drama The Impossible, as a young boy desperately trying to reunite with his family following a horrific tsunami. 

Vince Vaughn

The heartwarming 1993 sports drama Rudy — about a young man (Sean Astin) who dreams of playing football at the University of Notre Dame — features an ironic pair of film-acting debuts. It was the first movie roles of both Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn, playing teaching assistant D-Bob and tailback Jamie O'Hara, respectively. That duo would famously go on to star in the 1996 buddy comedy Swingers. 

Ryan Gosling

Another early football role for a Hollywood heavyweight, a young Ryan Gosling already had some big TV gigs under his belt (The Mickey Mouse Club, Young Hercules) before he appeared as Alan Bosley, the wiry cornerback of T. C. Williams High School's football team in Remember the Titans. And if you remember that locker-room singalong, you know the little Goose had charisma even then!

Mila Kunis

Yes, that is a mini Mila Kunis in Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves — she played a friend of Wayne Szalinski's (Rick Moranis) niece, who throws a house party once it seems like all of the grown-ups have left for the evening. (Instead, the adults have been accidentally zapped to microscopic proportions, naturally.) 

Daniel Craig

Before he was Bond, James Bond, Daniel Craig was Ballard, John Ballard, in the 1998 historical drama Elizabeth. The British actor portrayed a priest-slash-assassin who conspired with the Duke of Norfolk (Christopher Eccleston) to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I (played by Cate Blanchett) from the throne. Of course, Bond would never treat the Queen of England that way!

Jake Gyllenhaal

Given that filmmaking is a family business for Jake Gyllenhaal — he is the son of film director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, and the younger bro of the great actress Maggie Gyllenhaal — it's not a shock that the actor started young. He made his film debut at age ten in 1991's City Slickers, playing the son of Billy Crystal's character Mitch Robbins. 

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington is best known for playing crisis management expert Olivia Pope in the ABC drama series Scandal, but more than a decade earlier, she showed off her fix-it skills as Chenille Reynolds in Save the Last Dance, helping Julia Stiles's character Sara better integrate into their South Side high school and hip-hop culture at large. 

Ben Affleck

Like his famous best friend Matt Damon, Ben Affleck also began his acting career as a child and while eagle-eyed moviegoers no doubt remember spotting him in early-'90s films like School Ties and Dazed and Confused, they may have forgotten his uncredited early cameos, such as "Basketball Player 10" in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.

Robert Downey Jr. playing four characters in one show is a lot to take in, however, Robert Downey Jr. playing said men in the same scene is on another level. Watching the Oscar winner perform as Claude, the professor, the auteur and the congressman within one sequence is incredible from both a technical and story standpoint. So, when I asked his scene partner, Hoa Xuande (who plays The Captain), about how they shot this moment, his co-star, the one and only Sandra Oh, also squeezed in some of her own questions, making for a lively and educational conversation about how they shot this mind-boggling scene in The Sympathizer.  

For some context, in the book-to-screen adaptation of The Sympathizer, The Captain goes out to dinner at a steakhouse with the four men of power who make a deep impact on his life. In the show, all of these characters are played by Robert Downey Jr., creating a connection between the four and their similar effect on the leading man’s life. 

Technically speaking, this scene was a beast to shoot, and it involved RDJ changing frequently. While speaking during a roundtable about the HBO show, Hoa Xuande broke down the scene that took two to three days to create and how they shot it, saying:

Talk about a process! Xuande continued to break down the key scene in the show that marked RDJ’s return to television, saying that it was an intense puzzle to piece together for everyone involved:

He most certainly does have that thing, and Downey is remarkable in the sequence. Overall, this beast of a scene is so fascinating, Sandra Oh followed up my question with her own queries for Hoa Xuande, asking:

This led to a back-and-forth between the two actors as Xuande broke down how the coverage of Downey’s four characters worked. Here’s how the conversation went:

Hoa Xuande: I think I started with Claude. Claude is the most prominent of the characters. So I felt most comfortable, and he's obviously sitting right next to me. So it's the easiest to shoot.

Sandra Oh: So, when you rehearsed it, Robert didn't [do all of his characters?] That’s really, really trippy, so you started with Claude?

To break it down, they did start with Claude, with Xuande explaining that that was the character he rehearsed the scene with. Then, on the day, Downey would change over and over and they’d shoot the scene again and again to get all the necessary coverage. The actor told us that while it was a “mindfuck” it was also rewarding:

That twisty answer for a twisty and brilliant scene in the A24 series led Oh and me to note just how amazing the sequence is. The Killing Eve alum made this point by saying: 

This back and forth continued past my question, as Oh asked Xuande talked more about the order they shot Downey’s characters. The Captain actor then answered her great questions, saying that they started with Claude, moved to the congressman, then the professor and finished with the auteur, and throughout that, they were always shooting both RDJ and him. 

Overall, the steakhouse scene is a pivotal moment in The Sympathizer and a masterwork in filmmaking. So, I totally understand and love that Sandra Oh took over and asked so many great questions.

One of the most fun comedic pairings of 2023 has to be Awkwafina and Sandra Oh in Hulu’s Quiz Lady, which started streaming last month. But if you thought their project on the 2023 film schedule was the first time the pair of actors crossed paths, you’d actually be wrong. They first joined the same cast back in 2019 for Disney Animation’s Raya and the Last Dragon. When reflecting on their history of co-stars, the pair shared why they much preferred working together on Quiz Lady. 

Prior to Sandra Oh playing Awkwafina’s sister in the R-rated comedy about a game show obsessive’s chaotic journey to becoming an official contestant, they both had voice roles in the Raya and the Last Dragon cast alongside the likes of Kelly Marie Tran, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim and Benedict Wong. Here’s how Awkwafina compared the experiences: 

Unlike a live-action comedy like Quiz Lady, when actors sign up to voiceovers in Disney movies, especially in the time of a worldwide pandemic, they don’t always actually get to work with their co-stars. In the vocal booth, many times actors act against the other filmmakers rather than being in front of their co-stars. So, while they were both in Raya and the Last Dragon together, they didn’t get the kind of quality time that Quiz Lady provided them. 

In Raya and the Last Dragon, Awkwafina played the magical dragon Sisu whilst Sandra Oh played Virana, the chief of Fang Land. The animated adventure was unfortunately greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic not only during production, but within its release as it dropped on Disney+’s Premier Access feature on the same day it came to theaters in March 2021. It made $130 million worldwide against a reported $100 million budget. 

While Awkwafina and Sandra Oh were isolated from each other during the production of Raya, they had the chance to really play off each other in Quiz Lady. When CinemaBlend spoke to the movie’s director Jessica Yu, she recalled Oh in particular “pushing” the dislocated wrist gag in particular and we can imagine the pair had a ton of other hilarious on-set improvisation moments between one another.  

While Awkwafina has definitely made a mark for herself in the realm of comedy in recent years, Quiz Lady definitely has us sold on Sandra Oh being part of more comedies in the future. And hopefully, the two star in another funny film like Quiz Lady in the near future. You can see both actresses in their favorite project together now with a Hulu subscription. 

Looking back on Sandra Oh’s best movies and TV shows, the vast majority of her filmography is dramatic work. However, with Jessica Yu’s Quiz Lady, she got to let her comedic skills shine! There are so many moments in the movie that prove Oh should be in more comedies, and it turns out she really wanted to push herself and bring the funny. And she did, as the director of the movie about two sisters’ quest to get on a quiz show told CinemaBlend about the scene where the actress wanted to keep “pushing that gag.” 

The scene in question begins when the two sisters, Anne (Awkwafina) and Jenny (Sandra Oh), end up at the hospital, after Oh’s character falls off the top of the bar, into a TV and onto the floor. While they’re sitting in the waiting room, Jenny takes an ice pack off her wrist to reveal that it’s totally floppy. Anne then has a visceral reaction to it, and it turns out that flipping and flopping her wrist around to get it back into place was all the Grey’s Anatomy alum’s idea. Yu broke down shooting the scene, and how funny the actress was as she flailed her arm around while speaking with CinemaBlend. She said:

In the movie, you can see Oh pushing it, and seeing how far she can take the bit. It totally works too! Jessica Yu noted this as well, and she explained why the over the top bit paid off, saying:

The scene goes from being super funny to quite dramatic quickly, and both Sandra Oh and Awkwafina handle both elements masterfully. Yu said seeing that range from her actors was one of the reasons why this scene was a favorite of hers. She said:

Yu went on to explain another example of Sandra Oh cracking everyone up on set as she recalled shooting the scene in the Philadelphia hotel. She said the Killing Eve star was doing “this whole thing with her leg,” and it led to the entire crew cracking up. The director told me:

Overall, seeing Sandra Oh in this comedic role was so much fun, and it’s clear as day that she was having a blast making this movie. It turns out she was also making everyone involved with Quiz Lady laugh really hard because of her ability to keep pushing a gag. 

Along with Sandra Oh, Quiz Lady’s cast is stacked with comedic legends. Oh and Awkwafina lead the charge, and they are supported by Jason Schwartzman, Tony Hale and Will Ferrell (who asked to be in the movie). Talk about a comedy dream team!

The list of Best Picture winners is short, and exclusive, which means that even some of the most acclaimed, decorated, and generally well-liked actors of all time haven't taken home the grand prize at the Academy Awards. You might be surprised by the number of celebrities we have listed below — many of which have Oscars of their own — that have never starred in a Best Picture winner.

Denzel Washington

As one of a few actors who have two Oscars to their name, you might assume that some of the best Denzel Washington movies were also guaranteed a Best Picture win, right? Surprisingly, the star of Glory and Training Day has never made a movie that won the Academy's big prize, but at least he can say that King Kong still ain’t got nothing on him.

Heath Ledger

If what many consider to be one of the Academy’s greatest mistakes (awarding Crash Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain in 2006) had not happened, Heath Ledger’s name would not be on this list. However, the late Australian actor still left behind a stunning legacy only so many actors can dream of. Notably, he won a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as the Joker in one of the best superhero movies, The Dark Knight.

Christian Bale

Five of Christian Bale’s best movies have been nominated for Best Picture (The Fighter, American Hustle, The Big Short, Vice, and Ford v. Ferrari), but to no avail. At least his performance in The Fighter — David O. Russell’s 2010 boxing biopic — earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

Robert Downey Jr.

It is already hard enough to believe that Robert Downey Jr. has only two Oscar nominations (for Chaplin and Tropic Thunder), and that none of his many great movies outside of the MCU have achieved the highest honor, either. However, things could change at the 2024 Oscars, given his stunning work in the Oppenheimer cast and the promising chances for Christopher Nolan’s glowing biopic.

Toni Collette

Toni Collette is an extraordinarily talented actor with the accolades to prove it, including an Oscar nomination for 1999’s The Sixth Sense. However, the classic M. Night Shyamalan movie is also one of a few Toni Collette movies to be nominated for Best Picture (also including 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine), but she hasn't been in a winner yet.

Will Smith

From TV sitcoms to sci-fi blockbusters to critically acclaimed biopics, Will Smith’s filmography is pretty extraordinary, but it does not include Best Picture winners. If that does change for him soon, he may be unable to celebrate the honor in person. This is because he has been banned from future ceremonies for the next decade after slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars — which also happened to be the night he won Best Actor for King Richard.

Harrison Ford

Two of Harrison Ford's most iconic characters were featured in two Best Picture Nominees -- the original Star Wars movie, where he played Han Solo, and the first Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark -- but neither of them won. At least Ford, who does have an Oscar nomination for fellow Best Picture nominee 1985’s Witness, can say those films, among others, made him one of the highest-grossing actors of all time.

Scarlett Johansson

Some of the most significant films of Scarlett Johansson’s career were Best Pictures nominees — such as her breakthrough role in one of the best movies of the 2000s, Lost in Translation, and her dual Oscar-nominated performances the same year for Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story. Of course, none of these films took home the top prize.

Ryan Gosling

There was a time when it seemed like Ryan Gosling would not be eligible for a list like this when we thought La La Land won Best Picture in 2017. However, it turned out to be a case of mistaken envelopes and the real winner was Moonlight. The Barbie cast member was also in the nominated film The Big Short, and there are sure to be more Ryan Gosling movies getting Oscar consideration.

Glenn Close

Glenn Close is one of those actors whose longtime losing streak at the Academy Awards — eight nominations, zero wins — continues to baffle audiences. Add on the fact that none of her best movies have won Best Picture either and the notion becomes simply unspeakable.

Jennifer Lawrence

The Academy loves Jennifer Lawrence — nominating her four times and awarding her the Best Actress Oscar for 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook. However, they seem to like her just a bit more than Jennifer Lawrence’s best movies, none of which have received the Best Picture award.

Julia Roberts

I suppose Julia Roberts’ multiple nominations and one win — for Erin Brockovich — had me convinced that she had been in a Best Picture winner at some point. In truth, said biopic from 2000 is actually the only Best Picture nominee among Roberts’ filmography so far, and it lost to Gladiator.

Meg Ryan

Would you believe that Meg Ryan has never been nominated for an Academy Award? Well, what if I told you that none of her movies — which include some of the best romantic comedies of all time, like When Harry Met Sally — were considered for the top prize either? Some talents just do not get the recognition they deserve.

Laura Linney

Curiously, Laura Linney has been nominated for her performances in 2000’s You Can Count On Me, Kinsey from 2004, and 2007’s The Savages — none of which even received Best Picture nominations. She has been in a Best Picture nominee though — Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River — however, that did not win either.

George Clooney

For a while, George Clooney’s filmography seemed to consist primarily of Best Picture nominees, such as Syriana (for which he won Best Supporting Actor) and Good Night, and Good Luck (which also earned him nods for writing and directing). However, in terms of the Best Picture category, that’s all any of them ever amounted to being; nominee.

Samuel L. Jackson

With a resume as lengthy and renowned as his, you would think Samuel L. Jackson has been in at least one Best Picture winner but he has not… yet. He has starred in quite a few Best Pictures nominees — many of which are Quentin Tarantino movies like Pulp Fiction, for which he received his sole Oscar nomination.

Hugh Jackman

Tom Hooper’s 2012 adaptation of Les Miserables earned eight nominations including one for Best Picture and and another for Best Actor for Hugh Jackman, but those categories were not among the three it did win. At least the Australian X-Men movie star has had the honor of hosting an Oscar ceremony before.

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt has won a Golden Globe for Gideon’s Daughters, a Screen Actors Guild Award for 2018’s A Quiet Place, and three BAFTA nominations for The Devil Wears Prada, a special “Rising Star Award” from the same year, and The Girl on the Train. However, never has the Academy given her a nod, nor have any of Emily Blunt’s movies even been nominated for Best Picture.

Jake Gyllenhaal

The fact that Jake Gyllenhaal has only been nominated for an Oscar once — for Best Supporting Actor in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain surprisingly enough -- is crazy. To learn that said LGBTQ+ romance movie is the only film of his to receive a Best Picture nomination is equally baffling.

Matthew McConaughey

Mathew McConaughey has starred in two films nominated for Best Picture — Dallas Buyer’s Club, for which he won his Best Actor Oscar, and The Wolf of Wall Street — which were both released in 2013. Even with favorable odds like that, neither acclaimed drama took home the gold that year.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman has been nominated for three Oscars, and she took home one in 2011 for Black Swan. Darren Aronofsky’s twisted tale of ambition gone too far is also the actor’s only film to be nominated for Best Picture.

Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman is one of those actors who was overdue for his Oscar for a long time before he broke the streak with his transformative performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Before (and after) his win, the British actor appeared in just a couple of Best Picture nominees — namely Oliver Stone’s JFK and David Fincher’s Mank.  

Amy Adams

The fact that none of Amy Adams’ movies have earned a Best Picture Oscar — despite six being nominated, including American Hustle and Arrival — is not particularly shocking. What is shocking is that the actor also has six nominations of her own and has never won any of them.

Angela Bassett

Years after she was nominated for an Academy Award as Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It, Angela Bassett made history as the first actor to receive an Oscar nomination for a Marvel movie performance (as Queen Ramona in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). Yet, her first Marvel movie, 2018’s Black Panther, is her only Best Picture nominee. 

Jeff Bridges

In addition to taking home an Oscar for Crazy Heart, Jeff Bridges has many Best Picture nominees under his belt, from 1971’s The Last Picture Show to Hell or High Water from 2016. Not a single one of them took him the grand prize, but I think the Academy’s biggest misstep in regards to acting legend was not nominating him for playing The Dude in The Big Lebowski.

Michael Caine

Despite two Academy Award wins to his name (one for 1986’s, Hannah and Her Sisters, and the other for 1999’s The Cider House Rules) Michael Caine cannot say he has starred in a Best Picture. Unfortunately, since the 90-year-old actor told The Telegraph that he is “sort of retired now,” he may never receive that honor.

Robin Williams

The late Robin Williams led a tremendous, widely beloved career that really made us laugh, through movies like 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire, as well as cry, like with his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting. That 1997 favorite and 1989’s Dead Poets Society are the only two Best Picture nominees he starred in.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry gave a landmark performance in 2001's Monster's Ball which earned her a historic Best Actress Oscar win. However, that film was not nominated for Best Picture, and neither has anything else the actor has starred in.

Sean Penn

Sean Penn has won Best Actor twice -- first for 2003's Mystic River by director Clint Eastwood and second for the title character of the powerful 2008 biopic, Milk. Neither of those acclaimed dramas got a Best Picture win, leaving the Fast Times at Ridgemont High cast member empty-handed in that particular regard.

Sandra Oh

With 13 Emmy nominations to her name, former Grey's Anatomy cast member Sandra Oh is better known as one of the greatest modern actors from the small screen. That would explain why her otherwise impressive big screen career -- which includes Alexander Payne's Best Picture-nominated Sideways -- does not include any grand prize winners at the Oscars at the moment.

Bradley Cooper

The otherwise bewildering fact that none of Bradley Cooper's many Oscar-nominated performances -- such as in 2012's Silver Linings Playbook or 2014's American Sniper -- nor his many Best Picture-nominated films -- including the two aforementioned films -- have resulted in any wins is not particularly a concern of mine. What I am surprised, and concerned, about is the snub for directing A Star is Born, which hopefully gets made up for when the upcoming Netflix movie, Maestro, comes out.

Viola Davis

I am happy that we live in a world in which an actor of momentous talent such as Viola Davis has been recognized and rewarded by the Academy with her Oscar win for 2016's Fences. That alone makes me, at least, content with the fact that there are still no Best Picture winners on her resume as of today.

Perhaps there will come a day when the names on this list change drastically and many of the actors above can say they have been in a Best Picture Oscar winner. For now, just keep cross your fingers and keep your hopes up for the next ceremony.

Actress Sandra Oh has had a long and celebrated career in both TV and film. Some of her most iconic roles remain on the small screen, thanks to her acclaimed work as Cristina Yang in Grey’s Anatomy and as the title character of AMC’s Killing Eve, both of which earned Oh Golden Globe Awards. Her newest movie Quiz Lady (see what we know here) will be released shortly with those with a Hulu subscription, which also stars Awkwafina. Having seen it early I can say that Quiz Lady is thoroughly hilarious, and I need to see Oh in more comedies.

Quiz Lady is one of the many films which recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. I had the privilege of attending said premiere, and being in the first audience to see this delightful new comedy from director Jessica Yu, who previously worked with Oh on a number of Grey’s Anatomy episodes. The film stars Sandra Oh and Awkwafina as estranged sisters Jenny and Anne, who are suddenly in danger when saddled with their absent mother’s gambling debt. Their mom’s bookie kidnaps Anne’s dog, and the sisters decide to get cast in and film a popular trivia game show in order to procure the money to get the old pup named Mr. Linguini back.

While the business involving gambling addiction and a bookie sounds like a drama, Quiz Lady is anything but. The movie is thoroughly silly from very on in its runtime– largely thanks to the comedic chops of Oh herself. Case in point: her first entrance in the movie sees her hit by a car, while rocking a delightfully ridiculous costume and blue fake extensions. While Awkwafina is an accomplished comedian herself, she functions as more of the straight man in this dynamic, to hilarious results.

Awkwafina’s protagonist Anne is buttoned up and full of anxiety, largely thanks to the sisters’ upbringing with a mother who is addicted to gambling. Sandra Oh’s Jenny is in many ways her opposite, and is a free spirit experiencing both joblessness and homelessness thanks to her lifestyle. Together they make an odd couple, whose shared trauma and family history prevents them from truly connecting throughout much of the film’s runtime.

As previously mentioned, Sandra Oh is comic gold in Quiz Lady, and is the clear scene stealer of the upcoming Hulu comedy. She’s obviously an incredible dramatic actress, so this might be somewhat surprising for casual fans of the Canadian star. But she’s shown her penchant for comedic timing during Oh’s ten year run on Grey’s, while also balancing the show’s countless tragedies. When you also think about her iconic performances in Sideways and The Princess Diaries, perhaps it shouldn’t be so surprising that Oh is able to carry the bonkers comedy.

Jessica Yu expertly directs Quiz Lady, and includes some really great visual gags. One standout sequence in particular sees Awkwafina’s Anne accidentally consuming a number of drugs during her audition for the game show, with some hilarious trippy moments and surprisingly expensive looking visual effects. The script by Jen D'Angelo is really killer, and the movie’s dialogue gives the movie’s cast plenty to work with, especially Sandra Oh.

Speaking of the cast, there's some A+ talent included in Quiz Lady, besides its pair of leading ladies. Will Ferrell (who is also a producer on the film) plays the host of the quiz show that Awkwafina’s character has been obsessed with for her whole life. The great Holland Taylor has some great material as her cantankerous neighbor, while Veep’s Tony Hale and actor Jason Schwartzman both kill in their respective roles. There’s also an amazing cameo I won’t spoil that has the potential to get moviegoers emotional given some events IRL. The whole cast give excellent performances, and help form a stellar ensemble of actors for the delightful comedy.

Grey’s Anatomy has been beloved by TV fans for the better part of two decades, and when you think back to the MAGIC days of Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie and Cristina, it’s hard to believe how many traumas, romances, medical miracles and natural disasters we’ve witnessed. It’s tempting to want to go back and rewatch all of Grey’s Anatomy’s heart-pumping drama — especially with all 19 seasons readily available to stream with a Netflix subscription — but with 420 episodes so far, that’s a pretty massive undertaking. We’re here to help by giving you the best starting points from all of the best eras of the Shonda Rhimes drama.

Now, if those early days of Meredith and McDreamy, 007, and Cristina’s bad-assery are what you’re craving, by all means, hit play on Season 1’s “A Hard Day’s Night” and ride that wave through nearly two decades of episodes. However, if you’re more interested in a specific period of time — or a specific character — allow me to suggest these other episodes as good places to jump in. (I tried to keep the SPOILERS to a minimum, but reader beware if you’re new to the series.) 

The Denny Duquette Era (Season 2, Episode 13)  

We’re 19 seasons into this medical drama, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s appearance in Season 2 quite possibly still stands as the best guest-starring role the show has ever seen. Morgan played Denny Duquette, a heart patient with charisma to spare, who had an immediate and undeniable mutual attraction with Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens. If you want to relive the rollercoaster of their complicated relationship, start with “Begin the Begin” in the second season. 

Meredith And Derek Get Together For Good (Season 5, Episode 19)  

Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey and Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd kicked off the series with a bang — literally — engaging in a one-night stand just hours before he was revealed to be an attending surgeon at her new job. However, it was quite a while before this on-off couple was finally fully "on." The way Derek treated Meredith in some of those earlier episodes was far from McDreamy, so if you want to skip the "Oh yeah, I'm still married," of it all and get straight to prime MerDer territory, fire the series up at Season 5’s “Elevator Love Letter.” 

The Mercy West Era (Season 6, Episode 5) 

The first time Grey’s Anatomy added a new batch of doctors came in Season 6, when Seattle Grace merged with Mercy West Medical Center amid a tough economic climate. Season 6’s “Invasion” introduced fans to Jackson Avery, April Kepner, Reed Adamson, Charles Percy, and while I won’t spoil the fates of Nora Zehetner and Robert Baker’s characters (IYKYK), fans of a certain would-be couple undoubtedly would want to start watching here, or skip a couple of seasons forward to … 

Japril: The Beginning (Season 8, Episode 21)  

When they were introduced in Season 6, nobody knew that Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) would go on to become one of the most adored couples in Grey’s Anatomy history. The ups and downs of their relationship — from the most romantic wedding interruption ever to the devastating death of their baby (which actually sent Drew into early labor) — have fans so invested, we’re still begging for more. Relive the show's best love story by starting with the night of Jackson and April’s first hot hookup — Season 8’s “Moment of Truth.” 

Welcome New Interns: Meet Jo Wilson And Her Rookie Class (Season 9, Episode 1) 

Every few seasons the drama rains down a new class of characters, with a few often sticking around for the long term. Season 9 saw the hospital’s veterans still reeling from the fallout of the plane crash, but amidst the chaos, the premiere introduced new doctors Jo Wilson, Stephanie Edwards, Shane Ross, Leah Murphy and Heather Brooks. If you want to relive the origin story of Camilla Luddington’s character, or refresh yourself on what exactly came to be of the rest of these interns, start with “Going, Going, Gone” in the ninth season. 

Maggie And Amelia Replace Cristina (And Lexie) As Meredith’s Twisted Sisters (Season 10, Episode 23) 

Meredith finding support in her sisters — biological or otherwise — was huge for the character, so I don’t think it was any coincidence that Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) made her entrance as the love child of Meredith’s mother and Richard Webber, just one episode before Sandra Oh’s final appearance as Meredith’s “person,” Cristina Yang. Meredith also lost her sister, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), in Season 8, but with Caterina Scorsone becoming a series regular as Amelia Shepherd in Season 11, Meredith was back to having two sisters. Jump in at Season 10’s “Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right” to watch the new twisted sisters’ relationship start to grow. 

The B-Team Era: Meet Levi ‘Glasses’ Schmitt And Friends (Season 14, Episode 4)  

Another group of interns was introduced in Season 14, including Jake Borelli’s Levi Schmitt (known back then as “Glasses”) and Jaicy Elliot’s Taryn Helm. The six new characters also starred in a six-episode web spinoff called Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team, which featured cameos from the drama’s main cast. Relive this era starting with Season 14’s “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head.” 

If you’re a big Jake Borelli fan, though, go ahead and start watching at the Season 14 premiere. “Glasses” was initially supposed to be a small guest role, but they chose to keep him around as part of the incoming class. Good decision, since he remains a fan favorite today! 

The Crossover Era: Station 19 Premieres (Season 14, Episode 13)  

Later in Season 14, the Seattle universe expanded when Ben Warren (Jason George) changed careers, thus introducing fans to the firefighters of Station 19. Season 14’s “You Really Got a Hold on Me” served as a backdoor pilot for the spinoff, introducing Jaina Lee Ortiz as Andy Herrera. To this day, the cast members often show up on each other’s shows, particularly when there’s romance (or tragedy, of course) involved.  

The Reboot Era: Meredith Prepares To Leave As We Meet McDreamy’s Nephew (Season 19, Episode 1) 

As we’ve seen, it’s not uncommon for Grey’s to drop a handful of interns into the hospital every so often, but Season 19 was the first time since the MAGIC days that five new characters became the focus. Ellen Pompeo’s impending exit as a series regular necessitated a reboot of sorts, and we quickly found ourselves getting swept up in the will they/won’t they of McDreamy’s nephew, Lucas Adams (Niko Terho), and Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd), as well as the stories of Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis), Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) and Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane). 

If you need a refresher on this newest era of our beloved show, pop on Season 19’s “Everything Has Changed.”

Nobody knows how many more eras Grey’s Anatomy will have before it closes the book, but the show has definitely proven capable of adapting its stories and characters to keep fans invested. Spoiler alert! This story contains spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 19 midseason premiere, “I’ll Follow the Sun,” which aired February 23. Proceed with caution if you’re not caught up!

Meredith said goodbye to Seattle on Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 19 midseason premiere, moving her family to Boston in order for her daughter Zola to attend a gifted school. “I’ll Follow the Sun” wasn’t full of flashbacks from Ellen Pompeo’s biggest moments from her 18 years as Meredith Grey, and the emotional speeches were minimal. But it wouldn’t have done the character justice without a hint at her past, and this episode beautifully wove in Cristina Yang and Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in subtle ways that proved our hero is going to be just fine.

With Ellen Pompeo leaving as a series regular, one big question going into the rest of Season 19 was whether or not Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) would follow her to Boston. It’s only fitting that Meredith’s final episode would have echoes of the last time we saw her twisted sister Cristina (Sandra Oh). In the Season 10 finale, “Fear (Of the Unknown),” Derek (Patrick Dempsey) was trying to convince Meredith that they should move to Washington, D.C., and before Cristina left for Zurich, she told Meredith:  

The title of the Season 19 midseason premiere, “I’ll Follow the Sun,” seemed to reference that sentiment, and possibly indicate that Nick would move yet again to be with Meredith. The couple’s relationship had been rocky since the end of Season 18, though, and with so much of Meredith’s focus (rightfully) on her daughter, the two had trouble staying on the same page in the first handful of episodes this season.

They continued to fight on Meredith’s last day about what both of them wanted, and emotions ran high following the death of author Tessa Hobbes (Patricia Richardson) on the operating table. Meredith showed just how strong her character has become over the years, when she told Nick: 

How far we’ve come from “Pick me. Choose me. Love me.” Those were Meredith’s words to McDreamy in Season 2’s “Bring the Pain,” and although that has become one of Grey’s Anatomy’s most famous lines, Ellen Pompeo has said she was “horrified” when she read the script that her character would beg a man to love her. And on this night, she didn’t. 

In the end, Meredith set off for Boston not beholden to a man. Nick made an effort at a dramatic airport scene, but his “I love you” phone call was too little too late, and she pretended she couldn’t hear him before hanging up.

Meredith’s episode-ending narration drove home that the character is going to be just fine, as she reads from Tessa Hobbes’ final book, saying that she’s saved lives and had her life saved. She’s survived “broken bones and a broken home and the death of people I love.” And there’s no such thing as happily ever after, unless that simply means we’re still alive. Her final words on “I’ll Follow the Sun”:  

Meredith. Is. The. Sun. 

Grey’s Anatomy will continue (sans Ellen Pompeo) at 9 p.m. ET next Thursday, March 2, on ABC. Season 19 episodes are available to stream the next day with a Hulu subscription, and you can relive all of Meredith’s glory days, with the first 18 seasons available to Netflix subscription holders. 

Sandra Oh has been keeping busy following the end of Killing Eve, and now she has yet another role to add on to her already-impressive filmography. In fact, she's joining Robert Downey Jr. to do so, and is one of several cast members to sign on.

Oh is among three new cast members of the upcoming series The Sympathizer, according to Deadline. An adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s novel, the series co-stars and is produced by Robert Downey Jr., who will play multiple supporting roles. Downey Jr. even showed off his bald head that he will be sporting in the new series recently. The drama, thriller, and cross-culture satire centers on a communist spy in the Vietnam War’s final days. Due to the spying, he’s exiled from the U.S.

Sandra Oh is set to play liberated feminist Ms. Sofia Mori. After getting in the middle of a love triangle, her Asian American identity begins to show how complex it really is. The former Grey’s Anatomy star will be recurring in the new series alongside two other new cast members on the show.

Kieu Chinh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen Are Also Joining

Dynasty’s Kieu Chinh and Paris By Night star Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen are also set for recurring roles on The Sympathizer. As the Major’s Mother, Chinh portrays a character who finds it hard to fit in and is homesick for Vietnam. The same can’t be said for her son, who immediately jumped in. The Vietnamese-American actress has been in projects such as NCIS: Los Angeles, Hollow, 21, Riot, and M*A*S*H. She also released a memoir called Kieu Chinh An Artist in Exile in 2021.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen will portray the General’s elegant wife, Madame. As a commanding matriarch, she’s trying to find a balance between keeping her daughter modest and her husband from unwinding while starting their lives over. Duyen is a Vietnamese-American singer-songwriter who co-hosts Paris by Night, a popular variety show in Vietnam. It looks like the show has some very talented new cast members on board, and seeing how it will unfold is definitely be something to look forward to. 

The three actresses join previously announced cast members Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, and Alan Trong. Pak Chan-wook serves as co-showrunner with Dan McKellar, who will direct. The duo will also executive produce alongside Robert Downy Jr., Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell for Team Downey. Niv Fichman and Kim Ly will executive produce through Rhombus Media and is a co-production between HBO, A24, and Rhombus Media in association with Cinetic Media and Moho Film. Of course, the series will be added on to Sandra Oh's ever-growing list of TV shows and movies.

Although The Sympathizer is currently filming in LA and Thailand, there is no telling when it will premiere. Hopefully, news will be revealed soon as filming continues. Cristina Yang left Grey Sloan Memorial in the Season 10 finale of Grey’s Anatomy — “Fear (Of The Unknown),” one of the series’ best episodes — after she got a dream job opportunity in Zurich. While the gifted cardiothoracic surgeon may have been leaving behind a complicated relationship with ex-husband Owen and traumatic memories of hospital shooters, plane crashes and her BFF’s multiple near-death experiences, Sandra Oh as an actress was also getting some distance from her own trauma. She recently spoke about her time on the show, including her health struggles amid the rise to fame.

When Grey’s Anatomy came in as a midseason replacement for Boston Legal in 2005, few expected the ABC drama to get as big as it did, as quickly as it did. Creator Shonda Rhimes skyrocketed to fame, as well as the series’ young cast, most of whom were relatively unknown. Sandra Oh has spoken candidly about how the unexpected loss of her anonymity affected her, and during Variety's Actors on Actors series with Jung Ho-yeon, she detailed some of the physical effects she experienced:

Stress can show itself in all kinds of ways, and Sandra Oh felt the pressure, not just of being recognized on the street but of representing her Asian culture. That anxiety manifested for the Turning Red actress physically, and she learned she had to pay attention to what her body and mind were telling her, and ultimately put her needs first.

The star has said that she did see a therapist to help her understand her fame more clearly. However, it sounds like she also learned to trust her own instincts and not depend on others when it came to her well-being. 

She’s not the only Grey’s Anatomy actress who has taken a stand for their own mental health. Ellen Pompeo, who plays Cristina’s “person” Meredith Grey, said on her podcast Tell Me recently that there are things she’s not willing to put herself through on the show anymore — including scenes like Derek getting shot, and she and Sandra Oh had to react to that horrifying event “30 fucking times,” Pompeo said. She said she no longer wants to make herself miserable like that, because it takes a toll.

Sandra Oh now seems to be in a good place, with a grasp on what she needs to do to maintain her mental health. Maybe she’ll even feel good enough to return to the long-running show someday? Even though she’s basically said it’s not going to happen, we’ll never give up hope of seeing Meredith and Cristina dance it out again. Grey’s Anatomy will return to ABC for Season 19 this fall, and you can catch Sandra Oh in some other great movies and TV shows, as well as in Turning Red, available on with a Disney+ subscription.

When a series has been on the air for a long time, it can become a concern that the writers will run out of new things to do with the characters and start to recycle storylines. That’s apparently a huge reason Ellen Pompeo has voiced her support to end Grey’s Anatomy. But as the hit ABC medical drama wrapped its 18th season, showrunner Krista Vernoff has opened up about that exact issue, comparing the stories of Cristina Yang and Jo Wilson as an example to illustrate why that’s not an problem for their show going into Season 19.

Nobody’s certain of Grey’s Anatomy’s fate past Season 19. While Ellen Pompeo appears more than ready to leave (her character’s story about not being allowed to leave Seattle has seemed pretty meta), ABC is in no rush to lose its ratings winner. The actress has expressed concern that being on the show too long will result in them using old plotlines, but Krista Vernoff apparently doesn’t see that as a problem, and she explained to Variety how they’re able to keep things fresh:

It makes a lot of sense when you think about it like that. Grey’s Anatomy fans don’t say, “Jo and Todd are breaking up? They already did this story when Cristina and Owen split.” Hell, Jo’s breakup from Todd was even different from her breakup with Alex (and yes, we are still mad about that). Derek Shepherd getting hit by a semi was completely different from George O’Malley getting hit by a bus. Meredith and Derek had a beach wedding in the same season that Maggie and Winston got married on the beach, and there were definitely not any accusations that those were the same.

The makeups and breakups on Grey’s Anatomy are just as important as the medicine, and that’s something else Krista Vernoff cited as endless fodder for stories on the show:

It seems like Krista Vernoff has a lot left in the tank, as well as Chandra Wilson — one of three Grey’s Anatomy OGs, playing Miranda Bailey for all 18 seasons so far — who pushed back during a recent TV appearance when confronted with rumors that Season 19 would be their last. If they really can continue to bring in fresh ideas nearly two decades later, is it possible Grey's Anatomy will continue without Ellen Pompeo? Apparently it’s an idea making its way into conversations.

We’ve got a lot of time to wait and speculate before we can expect any official word from the network, but in the meantime you can rewatch Seasons 1-17 of Grey's Anatomy on streaming with a Netflix subscription. Season 18 is available to Hulu subscribers.

Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang will go down in pop culture history as one of TV's greatest friendships. The young surgeons provided healthy competition for one another in the hospital while simultaneously supporting each other through all kinds of horrific situations on Grey’s Anatomy. Sandra Oh played Cristina for 10 seasons before becoming one of many main cast members to leave, and even though Ellen Pompeo has signed on to play Meredith for a 19th season, she has no interest in taking her character back to some of those dark and twisty places. In fact, she says there are things she did earlier in the series that she wouldn’t do now — and she named one specific scene with her on-screen BFF that would never happen again.

Sandra Oh has said she was “traumatized” by her quick rise to fame as the cardiothoracic surgeon Cristina Yang, and has shut down conversations about a possible return to Grey’s Anatomy. Ellen Pompeo may not have moved on (the show does bare her character's name), but she is at least setting more boundaries. Talking to fellow Grey’s actress Kate Walsh on her podcast Tell Me, Pompeo said that as she's gotten older, after so many years on the show, there are things she’s not willing to do anymore, particularly when it comes to the real anguish she puts Meredith (and herself) through: 

Ellen Pompeo certainly isn’t the only one who remembers that scene vividly. Largely considered one of the best episodes in the series, the two-hour Season 6 finale “Sanctuary/Death and all of His Friends” showed an active shooter in the hospital who blamed Derek Shepherd for his wife’s death. Meredith and Cristina witnessed Derek being shot, with Cristina then having to perform life-saving surgery on him at gunpoint. In the ordeal, Meredith tried to sacrifice herself and ended up suffering a miscarriage. All. The. Emotional. Things. 

Not only did the actors have to put themselves in that heavy and loaded headspace to give a realistic performance (which they did, masterfully), they had to go through the same motions over and over and over for filming purposes. I don’t blame Ellen Pompeo for not wanting to put herself through that kind of prolonged angst again. Kate Walsh empathized with the actress too. As OB/GYN Addison Montgomery, Walsh found herself having trouble shaking it off when something would go wrong with one of her character’s patients.

The days of Meredith and “her person” Cristina are sadly over, though we’d give anything to see them dance it out again. It looks like fans will have to settle for Addison, and that's actually not a problem for us one single bit! When Grey’s Anatomy returns from hiatus on May 5, Kate Walsh will continue her Season 18 guest appearances, and we are ready for more all-time classic scenes like the one they provided when Addison grieved for Derek earlier this season (speaking of trauma).

Remember a few years ago when it seemed that all Pixar movies were sequels? That time is most definitely not now considering all the original concepts we’ve seen from the studio lately. From Onward to Soul, and Luca and the now-available Turning Red being the latest examples, the animation studio seems to be taking a break from franchises, but that doesn’t mean someday we wouldn’t like to see some of these stories be forwarded somehow. Sandra Oh has an especially incredible idea about how Turning Red 2 could happen.  

When CinemaBlend sat down with the voices behind Turning Red’s mother-daughter duo Ming and Mei, Sandra Oh and Rosalie Chiang, they shared their enthusiasm for telling more stories as these characters after the movie’s emotional ending. Check out what they said: 

Sandra Oh: We’d love to do another film and visit Mei in her panda, like when she goes to college and then starts her own business, maybe becomes a mother herself, we could just keep on going and that’d be great to explore basically where Mei is having gone through it. (To Rosalie Chiang) We’re going to have to wait until you’re 19. 

Rosalie Chiang: I’ll be there. I’ll be there. 

Sandra Oh has really thought about this, and it’s a beautiful idea! Not unlike audiences following Andy as a kid through the Toy Story movies before seeing him go off to college and give away his precious toy collection, it’d be interesting to catch up with Mei in her adulthood. 

Maybe she goes off to college many miles away from her home in Toronto and finds herself unable to control her panda once again. She’d need the support of her friends and mother to help her get through it, don’t you think? Or perhaps Mei reunites with them all to see 4*Town on a reunion show years after the band breaks up. As Oh shared during the interview, they’d likely want to wait until Rosalie Chiang is the same age as her matured character, so potentially around five years from now, give or take. 

As someone who grew up when Toy Story was coming out and then seeing an all-grown up Andy in Toy Story 3 as I was saying goodbye to my own childhood, I’d say that’s an incredibly effective way for Pixar to go about its plot lines. Now this generation of young girls and boys can watch Turning Red and then return to these characters during another phase of their lives. 

Sandra Oh’s other idea is about Mei becoming a mother herself and having to face the struggles that her own mother does, or perhaps just new struggles as her own child deals with the red panda gift/curse. It’s probably a bit too soon to get our mind set on a sequel idea as we discuss the prevalent themes in Turning Red or imagine Disney Parks concepts for the movie, but here’s hoping someday the story will continue in a thoughtful way. 

Big, red SPOILERS are ahead for Turning Red.

Historically, Pixar knows how to nail a great and teary-eyed ending and its latest release Turning Red is no exception. Domee Shi’s directorial debut tells the story of a 13-year-old girl who is dealing with growing pains, on top of an unexpected transformation into a giant red panda thanks to a secret generational gift turned curse. After attempts for Mei (voiced by Rosalie Chiang) to calm the panda side of her and ultimately confine that side of her into a remnant on her neck, the preteen decides to accept it as a part of herself. Shi shared what the ending means to her. 

Turning Red is a personal story to Domee Shi, who grew up in the early ‘00s in Toronto, Canada just like Mei. When she spoke to CinemaBlend, the writer/director shared what the ending of the Pixar movie means to her with these words: 

In the third act, Mei’s grandmother and aunties come over to conduct the ceremony that will allow her to give up her red panda side forever as all the recent women in her family before her have done. However, during the ceremony Mei holds on to her panda identity and proceeds to go to the concert for 4*Town with her friends that she spent much of the movie raising money to go to. 

During her hurried exit from the ceremony, her mother Ming (played by Sandra Oh) sees her own red panda get unleashed and it’s way more massive and frightening than Mei’s panda ever was. It all comes to a head at the 4*Town concert where Mei must come together with her grandmother and aunties to complete the ceremony and separate Ming’s panda from her human self. However, Mei decides not to complete the ceremony and remain a panda for good. Domee Shi continued to speak to the ending:

In Pixar's latest, Mei’s panda side is quite literally a gift that has been passed down through generations of women throughout her family since ancient times. But the panda could symbolize many things, depending on who is watching it. During my Turning Red interviews, Sandra Oh shared how the ending sequence had a personal meaning to her own coming-of-age. As she shared with CinemaBlend: 

Turning Red tells a story about a Chinese-Canadian family and how Mei struggles between the traditions she has grown into embracing and the culture she is experiencing at school with her friends. There’s a tough balance Mei has to walk and throughout Turning Red she is leading a double life between her family and social life. By the end of the movie, Mei chooses to be herself through being a red panda, a boyband obsessed preteen and Chinese-Canadian girl who is proud of her family’s history and values. It's a relatable journey many modern children of immigrants have to make and now storyline beautifully explored in a Pixar film.

Pixar has finally come out with a new movie, Turning Red, the story of a teenage girl who, every time she feels a strong emotion, turns into a giant red panda. With beautifully animated scenes and a great cast, Turning Red is a great addition to Disney+’s expanding collection of movies. 

But with such so many characters, one might wonder where you’ve seen the Turning Red cast before. From some newcomers in Hollywood to some legendary faces, here is why they might sound familiar - or where you could have seen them before.  

Rosalie Chiang (Meilin “Mei” Lee) 

Mei is our protagonist in Turning Red, but you might be surprised to find out that she’s played by relatively newcomer in Hollywood, Rosalie Chiang. While Chiang has guest starred on the TV series, Clique Wars, and done a few film shorts, Turning Red is her first major motion pictures - and hopefully, the first of many. 

Sandra Oh (Ming Lee) 

Playing Mei’s mother in Turning Red, Ming Lee, is Sandra Oh. That name should sound familiar, as Sandra Oh has had plenty of movie and TV roles that you might recognize her from. 

Some of her most famous TV roles were playing Cristina Yang in the hit show, Grey’s Anatomy, as well as portraying an agent in Killing Eve. Alongside this she’s also appeared in Arliss, Judging Amy and more. 

With movies, this isn’t her first voice role, as she had major parts in both Over the Moon and Raya and the Last Dragon. In addition to that, she’s appeared in movies such as The Princess Diaries, Under the Tuscan Sun, Double Happiness, Sideways and many, many more.

Ava Morse (Miriam)

Next up, we have Ava Morse, who plays Miriam, one of Mei’s friends in Turning Red. Morse, while she’s guest starred in Chicago P.D. and the TV series, Somebody Somewhere, this film is one of her first major voice rolls, with her playing Ava in Ron’s Gone Wrong. 

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Priya) 

Another friend of Mei’s is Priya, voiced by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. While Ramakrishnan is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, she is the star of the Never Have I Ever cast on Netflix, a TV series about a teenager learning to grow into herself in an Indian family. 

Other than that, Ramakrishnan has also voiced Zipp Storm in the My Little Pony: Make Your Mark series. 

Hyein Park (Abby) 

Abby is the last in Mei’s friend group, and her voice-actress may not sound all that familiar to you - at least in terms of acting. Hyein Park, the woman who voices Abby, isn’t originally an actress. 

In the past, Park has worked in the art department, where she has been a part of the storyboard work for other Pixar movies like Soul, Toy Story 4, and was also a storyboard artist for Bao, the short film the Turning Red director created for Pixar. Talk about multi-talented. 

Orion Lee (Jin Lee) 

Another legend on this list is Orion Lee, who voices Mei’s father, Jin, in Turning Red. Orion Lee has been in a few pieces of media that you might recognize him from. 

Some of his most known TV work was guest starring for two episodes on Silent Witness, the TV series, Dates, and having major roles in the TV shows, Critical, Tyrant, Informer and more. But besides that, Lee has also popped up as a guest in several TV shows that you might recognize, such as Warrior, DCI Banks, EastEnders, and many more, further expanding his repertoire of TV series'.

Recently, Orion Lee had a leading role in the drama film, First Cow, and Lee has also had minor roles in movies as well. These include, but aren't limited, to Justice League, Followers, M.L.E and more. He even had a minor appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as a part of the First Order, so I wouldn't be surprised if you have seen this actor before. 

Wai Ching Ho (Grandma) 

Grandma will always be there for you, and there’s no denying that in Turning Red. Playing Mei’s grandma is Wai Ching Ho, who has been in the business for some time. For superhero fans, you might recognize her as Madame Gao from not only Daredevil, but Iron Fist and The Defenders (all of which are moving over to Disney+ from Netflix). 

Some of her other roles in television have been a guest starring role in Law & Order, playing Kim in One Life to Live, having a guest role in Fresh Off The Boat, and more. She’s also appeared in films like Premium Rush, Tracers, Hustlers and more. 

Tristan Allerick Chen (Tyler)

Playing one of Mei’s classmates, Tyler, is Tristan Allerick Chen. Like some of his other co-stars on here, Turning Red is Chen’s first major film. He’s had guest roles in shows such as The Kominsky Method, and The Barbarian and the Troll, but Turning Red gave Chen a chance to shine. 

Addison Chandler (Devon) 

Crushes are everywhere when you’re a teenager, and Mei and her friends are no different with their crush on Devon in Turning Red. Chandler is actually known for his voice work, appearing in several animated shows such as Harvey Beaks, Barbie Dreamtopia, We Bare Bears and more, so that might be why you recognize his voice. 

Chandler has also popped up in other TV shows as well as a guest star, including the Ryan Murphy-created American Horror Story, as well as Colin in Black & White. 

4*TOWN (Jordan Fisher, Finneas O’Connell, Topher Ngo Grayson Villanueva, Josh Levi)

I mean, when I was a teenager, I was obsessed with One Direction, and Mei and her friends are obsessed with 4*TOWN, a boy band full of dreamy singers. 

Since there are so many of them in this five-guy group, let’s go over who they are. First off, there’s Jordan Fisher, a famous singer who’s been on Broadway, and has appeared in many TV shows and movies, including a guest role in the fun Disney+ original show, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, was in The Flash, starred in To All The Boys I Love Before: P.S. I Still Love You, as well as Work It on Netflix, and so much more. 

Finneas O’Connell is known more for his excellent song-writing skills alongside his sister and music partner, Billie Eilish, but he’s also had appearances in shows like Glee and Modern Family. 

Topher Ngo is primarily a music artist, and Turning Red is his first voice role. 

Grayson Villanueva is also primarily a musician, however, he also guest-starred in Modern Family before his voice role in Turning Red, and also has worked as an editor. 

Josh Levi is also a singer but has acted much more, having a big role as Darius Merriweather in Friday Night Lights, portraying Jordan in Royal Crush, and guest starred in many other TV shows such as The Thundermans, Game Shakers and more. 

Other Voice Appearances

There are many other actors who have voiced characters in this fantastic film as well, so here are some of their highlights from their past and who you might have known them as.  

James Hong, who has been in the business for some time, has some great appearances on screen, including Big Trouble In Little China (which is getting a remake), Blade Runner, Mulan, Kung Fu Panda, and many TV shows like the original Hawaii Five-O, Bonanza, and more. 

Sasha Roiz has appeared in shows such as Playmakers, Show Me Yours, the fantasy series, Grimm, Suits and more, and movies like The Day After Tomorrow, Land of the Dead and Pompeii. 

Sherry Cola had a major role in the TV series, I Love Dick, had a major role in Good Trouble, and has guest starred in many TV shows such as Best Presidency Ever, Life in Pieces and more. She also portrayed Special Agent Lucy Chun on Claws. 

Lori Tan Chinn, for some time, was most known for her iconic role of Mei Chang as part of the Orange is the New Black cast, but recently has taken on a major role in Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens as Grandma. She’s also appeared in small roles in movies such as Chloe & Theo, The Guitar, From Other Worlds and more. In the past, she also had a recurring guest role as Iris on Roseanne. 

Mia Tagano is a newcomer to Hollywood, with her only major role prior to this being a guest spot on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. 

For Lillian Lim Turning Red will be her first major role ever. 

Lily Sanfelippo has kept a lot of her work to television, having guest roles in shows like the miniseries Confessions of a Bitter(sweet) Actress, Superstore, and more.

She’s also been very active in voice-work, having a major role as Gwen/Ghost-Spider in the Spider-Man TV series, Spidey and His Amazing Friends, as well as guest voice roles in shows like The Owl House, Chugginton, Infinity Train and more. 

With so many stars, it’s almost hard to keep track of everyone in this film. But no matter what, there’s no denying that Turning Red has so much talent attached to it and will surely become one of Pixar’s best. 

It’s no secret that every single month, most women deal with menstruation from the average age of around twelve to fifty. However, the topic itself seems to remain an awkward topic of conversation around social circles, starting from middle school to movies about them. Many coming-of-age movies ignore the normal process of female periods all together, but Pixar’s Turning Red isn’t shying away from the topic. 

It wasn’t until I saw Turning Red that I realized that it mattered for me to see a Disney character dealing with this very normal, but touchy topic in her adolescence. Sure, Pixar definitely keeps it PG, turning the focus on the clever mystical story of Mei’s unexpected transformation into a giant red panda. That said, having a moment that turns the discussion over to periods, even showcasing a giant box of various feminine products in the movie’s beautiful animation style, means that a mainstream family movie finally went there. 

On behalf of CinemaBlend, I spoke to Turning Red’s Sandra Oh about the rare movie moment. Here’s how the actress, who voices the role of Mei’s mom Ming, thought of Pixar pushing boundaries and opening up the theoretical bathroom door a crack: 

Many women share an uncomfortable experience of being separated from the boys one day at school before being shown a weird introductory video about periods before being given a pack of feminine products. That, and having your parents take you aside and discuss with you that “your body is changing.” Pixar’s Turning Red is a step in the right direction. Perhaps families who see this critically-acclaimed film can start the conversation from a more comfortable place. Director Domee Shi shared with us her experience including these elements in the film:  

Along with periods being a topic within Turning Red’s storyline, the movie allows its preteen protagonist to be as “lusty” about boys as many women remember being at that age. Turning Red’s plot line revolves around Mei and her friends hoping to see their favorite boy band live in concert, alongside some crush doodling. The boyband is called 4*Town, and the songs in the movie were written by Billie Eilish and Finneas. Producer Lindsey Collins shared more about the process of including these elements to Turning Red behind the scenes: 

Turning Red is also Pixar’s first women-led production team in the studio’s history. The movie takes place in the early ‘00s in Toronto, Canada, and is a personal story to director/co-writer Domee Shi, who grew up in the city as the child of Chinese immigrants. Turning Red is available to stream exclusively to those with a Disney+ subscription on March 11. Stay tuned for more from my exclusive interviews with the filmmakers.  

The newest offering from Pixar is almost here! Turning Red, a coming-of-age story, takes Meilin "Mei" Lee through the awkward stages of adolescence. Definitely not helping matters is the fact that Mei turns into a giant red panda anytime she gets excited or feels other strong emotions. (The trailer definitely gave us Teen Wolf vibes.) Rosalie Chiang stars as the voice of Mei, and Sandra Oh plays her mother Ming Lee. Critics have screened the movie, so let’s see what they had to say. 

Turning Red is skipping theaters and going straight to Disney+ — a fact that not all were excited about — but if you do decide to check this one out, you can do so starting March 11 from the comfort of your own home. Critics’ first reactions to Turning Red seemed positive, for the most part, so let’s dive a little deeper and see what they say worked and didn’t work about Pixar’s Turning Red. 

Starting with Petrana Radulovic of Polygon, she highly praises Turning Red, noting that Domee Shi finds a way to tell a deeply personal story that is also universal in how it explores identity, culture and growing up:

Kate Erbland of IndieWire grades the movie an A-, calling Turning Red one of Pixar’s best films yet. She says the message of loving yourself is rendered fresh and new with this personal story and bright animation.

Alonso Duralde of The Wrap notes that director Domee Shi gives Turning Red a unique female perspective that hasn’t been seen in Pixar movies before. 

Siddhant Adlakha of IGN rates the movie an “Amazing” 9 out of 10, calling it a visually inspired knockout.

The horror genre has played host to several first-time feature filmmakers, usually because no matter the type of story they want to tell (suburban bigotry in Jordan Peele’s Get Out, the panic of isolation in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead), you can find a portal through fear. Iris Shim knew that her first screenplay was going to be an exercise in genre. What she didn’t anticipate was that the upcoming horror drama Umma would delve so deeply into her personal experiences in a mother-daughter relationship that also analyzed the circumstances of Korean-American families.   

The result, Umma, reaches theaters on March 18 and is being distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. In the film, Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh (pictured above) plays a protective mother living on a rural farm with her daughter who has to adjust their lifestyle when the ashes of her recently deceased mom are hand delivered to their location. The title holds special meaning for Iris Shim, who is making her feature-film directorial debut from a screenplay she crafted over the course of two years. As she told CinemaBlend in an exclusive interview:

I’m not sure the mother in this movie is one that you want hanging around, though. As you can tell from the new trailer for Umma that dropped, Sandra Oh’s character begins behaving quite differently once the remains of her mother arrive on the farm. What will be the explanation for this behavior?

Sony also provided us with this exclusive image, showing off striking masks that will introduce audiences to a new face of fear. When we asked Iris Shim about the significance of the masks as to how they relate to Umma, she once again traced her writing back to her childhood, explaining:

I know those masks will be bad news for the characters in Umma, but we’ll have to wait until March 18 to see what awaits Sandra Oh and Fivel Stewart. Umma is directed by Iris Shim, produced by Sam Raimi (who was a great choice to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), and is one of several upcoming 2022 movie releases, specifically a ton of upcoming horror movies, that you need to have on your radar.

In my years of watching TV, there have been plenty of actors and actresses who have become megastars because of their roles on hit television shows, from fantasy series like Game of Thrones to drama shows like Breaking Bad. But one name I always think of first is Sandra Oh, and her huge role as Cristina Yang on the medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, that helped to turn her into a huge star.

But Sandra Oh has done far more than just playing a talented and occasionally hilarious doctor on a prominent medical drama. From spending time in the academic dramedy, The Chair, to some animated hits like Raya and the Last Dragon, Sandra Oh has truly become a household name. If you’re looking for some Sandra Oh movies and TV shows that are streaming, look no further than her for some of her best.

Double Happiness (1994)

In this Canadian drama, Double Happiness tells the story of Jade Li, an actress who is struggling to somehow assert her independence from her Chinese Canadian family, and live her own life.

As one of her first major roles, Sandra Oh was fantastic as Jade Li, and really brought a certain amount of charisma to an otherwise struggling girl, who just wants to make her family happy. What’s really great about Double Happiness is its willingness to address the high standards that Eastern families have for their children, and how it can affect them. It's a real gem of a film.

Grey’s Anatomy (2005 - 2014)

In this classic medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy tells the story of Meredith Grey, who is the daughter of a famous surgeon and is starting out at the surgical residency program in the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital, following both her personal and professional life.

Grey’s Anatomy has become a huge hit for a reason, and Sandra Oh was a big reason for that, playing Cristina Yang, Meredith’s best friend in the hospital, for almost a decade, gaining fan-wide recognition and love. Besides Oh, the Grey’s Anatomy cast is full of talent and chemistry, creating wonderfully dramatic storylines that will have you clicking the next episode over and over again. While I don’t think Cristina Yang will be coming back to Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon, we can at least cherish her for the several seasons she was there.

Arliss (1996 - 2002)

In this HBO original show, Arliss (styled as Arli$$) follows the story of a wheeler-dealer superagent who has the talent of somehow finding solutions to problems that seem unsolvable, even if the means that might be through bad means.

Sandra Oh plays the titular character’s personal assistant, Rita Wu, for the seven seasons that it aired on HBO. The sitcom was popular for a good amount of time, with plenty of references to sports that sports fans might recognize. However, I still think that Sandra Oh was definitely the star of this cast, and deserved all the recognition she got for playing the role.

Under The Tuscan Sun (2003)

Under the Tuscan Sun is a romantic comedy based on the Frances Mayes memoir of the same name. In this film, a recently divorced writer buys a villa in Tuscany on a whim, hoping that by doing so, it will lead to a change in her life.

Sandra Oh plays the best friend, Patti, the person who inspires the main character, Frances, to take the trip to Tuscany in the first place after her life had fallen apart. If you enjoy romantic comedies, this is probably one of the sweetest ones out there. Not only does it have a fun story, but the scenery of Tuscany is always beautiful to witness.

Sideways (2004)

If you want a comedy that also has some drama, take a look at Sideways. In this film, two men in their forties take a week-long trip to Santa Barbara County wine country to celebrate one of their upcoming weddings, and this of course leads to several issues along the way, both comical and dramatical.

Sandra Oh stars as Stephanie, and boy oh boy is she great in this film. Really, the whole cast is full of talent as well, creating some truly great moments. The film not only has gorgeous scenery of the wine country that Santa Barbara has to offer, but has a funny, heartwarming story that will make anyone smile. Sideways was actually nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture -- and it won for Best Adapted Screenplay -- so you know it’s going to be worth your time to watch.

The Princess Diaries (2001)

In The Princess Diaries, we follow Mia Thermopolis, a shy American teenager who finds out one day that she is the heir to the throne in a European kingdom. Now, it is up to her if she wants to keep her quiet life in America, or give up everything she knows to go and claim the throne and eventually become a queen.

While Sandra Oh’s role isn’t that huge in this film -- she plays the humorous and memorable vice principal at Mia's school -- it’s still full of iconic moments that plenty of people remember years later (“the queen is coming”). Plus, The Princess Diaries cast is star-studded, with Anne Hathaway as the lead, Mia, alongside an ever-talented Julie Andrews as her godmother. The whole entire film is the perfect coming-of-age movie with a royalty twist. Give it a shot if you haven’t yet.

Killing Eve (2018 - Present)

If you want a brilliant spy thriller, check out Killing Eve. In this popular television series, we follow Eve Polastri, a British intelligence investigator who is tasked with capturing the psychopathic assassin, Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer.

I’ll be honest - when Sandra Oh left Grey’s Anatomy back in 2014, I didn’t know if there was going to be another TV series quite as big, where she would shine, but I was proven wrong when I watched Killing Eve for the first time. Sandra Oh is fantastic in her role as Eve, and shows that she has some serious skills not only with comical acting, but dramatic acting as well. The entire Killing Eve cast is full of talent as well, creating a super entertaining show to stream. If you haven’t watched it yet, be sure to check it out now before the fourth and final series airs in 2022.

Raya And The Last Dragon (2021)

In this Disney animated film, Raya and the Last Dragon is all about the titular character, Raya, and the last dragon, Sisu, who both go on a quest to find the pieces of a magical gem, and restore their land back to its previously peaceful state.

Sandra Oh voices Virana, a leader of one of the nations, alongside a huge Raya and the Last Dragon cast that includes Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, and several others. To be honest, I did enjoy the film - albeit having a couple of issues along the way. But that doesn’t mean that it still wasn’t an enjoyable children’s film that many people will appreciate, including fans of Sandra Oh. It’s a fun adventure with beautifully animated scenes, so give it a shot if you haven’t yet.

Over The Moon (2020)

In this Academy-Award-nominated film, Over the Moon tells the story of a young girl who builds a rocket ship, blasting off into the sky in hopes of meeting a mythical moon goddess, all through an entertaining, musical soundtrack.

Sandra Oh voices Mrs. Zhong, the protagonist’s new stepmother in the film, but really, Over the Moon sports way more than just a talented voice cast. The visuals in this amazing Netflix film are beautiful, but the music is really what makes this musical shine. I can guarantee that after you watch it, you’ll be listening to several of the songs over and over again. It’s certainly worth the time to watch.

Catfight (2016)

Catfight is a black comedy film starring Sandra Oh and Anne Heche, telling the story of two former college friends who end up coming head to head when they are both attending the same glamorous event.

I freaking love Catfight. I really wish it had gotten way more praise than it received because it’s truly one of Sandra Oh’s best. The chemistry she has between Anne Heche is top tier, making their rivalry believable, paired with a great cast behind them, including Alicia Silverstone, Damian Young, Tituss Burgess and many more. Plus, if you thought you were going to be laughing during some of her other choices on this list, just wait until you watch Catfight. It’s the funniest choice on here, in my opinion.

The Chair (2021 - Present)

The Chair is a 2021 Netflix TV series starring Sandra Oh, focusing in on the head of an English department at a prestigious university, which is facing a decline in student interest, all while trying to navigate her personal life too.

What I love about The Chair is that while it has plenty of comical moments, it also prides itself on not being afraid to talk about real-life issues when it comes to colleges and professors, talking tenure, the mistreatment that certain subjects get, and several others, while still keeping the mood nice and light. The cast all work together well, and the show is engrossing from the first episode to the end. With only six episodes to watch, it would be a quick binge, but a worthy one as well.

Invincible (2021 - Present)

Last but certainly not least, Invincible is an animated television series that tells the story of Mark Grayson, a teenager who develops superhero powers, passed down from his father, and aspires to become just like his Superman-type dad, Omni-Man.

Let me tell you that Invincible is an Amazon original series that adult audiences should watch. Seriously. Even if you don’t even like superheroes, Invincible is such a fantastic show that you’ll come back wanting more each episode. There are so many twists that you’ll get whiplash, and the story is so detailed that you’ll be wanting the next season soon. The Invincible voice cast is full of big names in Hollywood, including Sandra Oh as the mother of Mark Grayson, and the animation style itself is artistic and almost reminds you of a comic book - it’s just a great show to watch, one that everyone would enjoy.

Just, uh, don’t show it to the kids. That’s all I’ll say.

While you could spend your time watching the best movies on Netflix or the best movies on Amazon Prime, why not spend your time streaming some of Sandra Oh’s best films and TV instead? You’ll most likely die from laughing, or spend hours going from episode to episode. Regardless, you’ll have a fun time.

Years after Sandra Oh departed from Grey’s Anatomy, viewers are still waiting for her character Dr. Christina Yang to return at some point. That comeback may or may never happen thanks to Oh and her busy schedule leading two different TV shows, Killing Eve and The Chair. While Oh cherished her time as the beloved Grey’s Anatomy character, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the star, especially in the beginning. She even went as far as to say her time of the long-running drama was “traumatic,” though Oh had an apparent reason for using such terminology to describe her tenure on the show.

For millions of viewers, Sandra Oh will always be viewed as a gift for bringing Christina Yang to life, no matter how long it’s been since the actress left the show. But keeping up with a main character on such a beloved and monumental drama like Grey’s Anatomy could be both a gift and a curse to the actress. Using the word “traumatic” may seem dramatic, but the actress wasn’t too far off in her description to NBC’s Today, in which the Killing Eve star said this about the intense fame that quickly came from being showcased on the long-running ABC drama:

Sandra Oh’s cautionary tales from her journey with fame could be useful for any young performers coming up in Hollywood. While her role in the Oscar-winning film Sideways put her on Hollywood’s radar, playing Christina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy made her a household name in the U.S. and around the world. Of course, someone being on viewers' TV screens on weekly basis automatically boosts their star value, which can making things pretty overwhelming for celebrities who aren't used to massive amounts of attention on a daily basis. That seemed to be what Oh was experiencing during her run on the ABC drama. Luckily, she was able to find a nice middle ground.

As Sandra Oh pointed out, losing one’s anonymity can be detrimental to their craft. During her 10-season run on Grey’s Anatomy, Oh was part of one of TV's biggest dramas opposite Ellen Pomeo and others, which no doubt expanded her fanbase exponentially and brought on all kinds of excess attention, which presumably led to an immense amount of pressure and intrusiveness on Oh’s part. Thankfully, The Chair star fought through her obstacles, found a returned sense of inner peace after exiting Grey's Anatomy, and later become the central character in two acclaimed series.

While the Killing Eve star appears to be soaring right now in genre-bending projects, Sandra Oh did give some insight into how she coped with the intense spotlight from Grey’s Anatomy. During her interview, she openly joked about seeing a therapist to deal with the spotlight, and then immediately circled back to reflect on how her time in therapy did indeed help her to understand fame and success more clearly.

Thankfully, Sandra Oh learned how to cope with the Hollywood machine and the side effects of being so talented in such a highly competitive field. While fans debate over whether Christina Yang's return to Grey’s Anatomy will ever happen or not, there’s more Oh for viewers to see on television. Currently, the actress is working on the fourth and final season of BBC America’s Killing Eve, and viewers can watch Oh playing a troubled college professor in Netflix’s The Chair. It's the movie that turned Anne Hathaway into a superstar. It's the film that rejuvenated Julie Andrews' career. And it's the Disney picture that introduced Garry Marshall to a new generation of comedy lovers. That's right, we're talking about The Princess Diaries, one of 2001's most profitable movies and a well-beloved family film for, gosh, 20 years.

Though it received mixed reviews upon release, this endearing, entertaining coming-of-age farce spawned a sequel (maybe even a threequel someday) and it cemented Anne Hathaway as one of our next great talents. As Mia Thermopolis, a gawky, ineloquent high school student who's stunned to learn that she's the new heir to a royal throne, Anne Hathaway played our titular princess in Garry Marshall's The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

Most notably, he's recognized for his performance as Shawn Farrell in USA Network's The 4400. Currently, Flueger plays Adam Ruzek in NBC's Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med. Elsewhere, he played Ray Monroe in Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. Larry Miller (Paolo Puttanesca)

Playing the part of Paolo Puttanesca, Mia's demanding hairdresser and beautician, Larry Miller had a memorable role in The Princess Diaries movies. Previously, Miller appeared in Garry Marshall's Pretty Woman, Dear God, and Runaway Bride. The character actor later reunited with the director with Raising Helen, Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, and Mother's Day. Additionally, Miller is known for his work with Christopher Guest. Specifically, the actor appeared in Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. His other film credits include The Nutty Professor movies, 10 Things I Hate About You, Max Keeble's Big Move, L.A. No matter what David Duchovny does in his career, many fans will always think of him as Fox Mulder from The X-Files — the passionate FBI agent always in pursuit of the truth. But he’s also shown over the years that he’s not afraid to go to the extreme for the sake of comedy (see: all of Californication, any cameo where he plays himself). In the new Netflix series The Chair, David Duchovny resurrected one particularly memorable moment from The X-Files in a scene with series star Sandra Oh by donning a red Speedo. You know the one. It's right above.

For a character like Mulder who rarely was seen wearing anything but work attire, it’s no mystery why seeing him in a red Speedo would throw fans into a frenzy, but it couldn’t have been predicted how enduring the image would be after so long. David Duchovny gave The Chair showrunner Amanda Peet and star Sandra Oh the credit for the bare-chested callback and resurrection of the barely there garment, according to EW. In his words:

That’s some pretty high praise for Amanda Peet, and shows how much trust David Duchovny had in her and former Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh. It’s a huge thing to put a piece of your iconography into someone’s hands, and it’s a whole other thing to wear a Speedo on camera more than 25 years after The X-Files episode in question.

For The Chair fans who might not have witnessed the scarlet Speedo's original appearance, The X-Files Season 2 episode “Duane Barry” featured Agent Krycek approaching Mulder at the FBI pool as the agent was swimming laps, to talk about assisting on a case. As Mulder emerged from the pool in that bright red Speedo, 1994 TV audiences witnessed a fashion moment on par with the lifeguards on Baywatch, just with less slowed-down bouncing.

The Chair played to that scene in Episode 5, “The Last Bus in Town,” which had Sandra Oh’s Ji-Yoon Kim visiting David Duchovny (playing a satirical version of himself) at his house to discuss an upcoming Distinguished Lecture at the university where she served as chair. Ji-Yoon’s reaction when she saw Duchovny in the Speedo was priceless (and much less subtle than Duchovny’s co-star on The X-Files), literally hiding behind a plant when Duchovny climbed out of the pool and nonchalantly asked if she was okay.

The moment was fun for fans who remembered The X-Files scene, but prior knowledge of David Duchovny’s swimwear was not required to follow his overall delightful arc on The Chair. In talking to Ji-Yoon, Duchovny casually dropped in facts about himself, his books, his band and his degrees (all true to life). Now if only The Crown's Gillian Anderson had been around as an equally satirical version of herself.

Sandra Oh left her full time gig as Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy behind way back at the end of Season 10. While her character (and not Oh) did make a brief appearance in the following season at Derek's funeral, and Cristina has been referred to several times on the series, Oh herself has never returned. This, of course, doesn't mean that fans are cool with not getting to see Meredith and her "person" on screen together again. While Oh knows we'll never see her on the show, she's very appreciative of her time on Grey's and being asked about when she'd be willing to return, and she revealed why.

Season 17 of Grey's Anatomy, as fans will know all too well, has been punctuated by several surprise appearances from characters (and actors) audiences thought they'd never see again. Sandra Oh, who moved on to a starring role on Killing Eve after her Grey's tenure, was recently asked, during a Los Angeles Times interview, if she'd consider returning to the medical drama. It doesn't sound like there's any amount of audience love which would make Oh go back, but she's clearly glad that fans still have so much interest in her character. Oh noted:

I'm sure long-time Grey's Anatomy fans are disappointed by the news that, no matter how many times Cristina may be mentioned on the show, there doesn't seem to be any hope of actually seeing Sandra Oh reprise the dedicated surgeon on camera. Even though Oh has "moved on" from the role which defined her career for quite a while, many fans haven't quite been able to do the same. And, it turns out that this is something that Oh actually likes about the experience of playing Cristina.

There's no way that Sanda Oh didn't realize, while still playing Cristina, that she was one of the more popular characters on Grey's. But, once you leave a show with such a massive fanbase, and one which cycles new characters in and out on a semi-regular basis, it would be pretty easy to think that viewers would mostly forget about you and your character once you're gone. Instead, as Oh pointed out, in the seven years since we last saw Cristina Yang, people have continued to hope she's going to head back to her hospital stomping grounds. All that does is show how much they loved the work Oh did as Cristina.

Meredith has been in and out of consciousness this season, and her beautiful brain has given her a safe space on a dream beach where she's been able to visit with several former characters. The opportunity has been there for Cristina to turn up in some capacity, but it's at least good to know that even if Sandra Oh isn't interested in returning, she does appreciate how much we love and miss Cristina.

Most notably, the actor is known for Lost, Hawaii Five-0, and Angel. He also played recurring roles in Beverly Hills, 90210, 24, ER, Star Trek: Enterprise, and The Good Doctor, where he serves as an executive producer. Currently, Kim plays a recurring character in NBC's New Amsterdam. Lucille Soong (Dang Hu)

As Dang Hu, the leader of the land of Talon, Lucille Soon plays a sage supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. An actress with nearly 60 years of acting experience, Soong is best known for her main role in ABC's Fresh Off the Boat. She also played a recurring role in Desperate Housewives. Her other television credits include Dharma & Greg, The Troubleshooters, Bones, The King of Queens, Without a Trace, The United States of Tara, According to Jim, and The League, to only name a few credits. In film, meanwhile, Soong can be seen in The Joy Luck Club, Freaky Friday (2003), Nancy Drew, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Mission: Impossible III, Employee of the Month, The Corrupter, Genghis Khan, One More Time, Sky High, and Just Like Heaven.

Patti Harrison (Tail Chief)

In the role of Tail Chief, Patti Harrison voices a prominent supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Harrison stars in Hulu's Shrill. She can also be seen in Search Party, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Special Without Brett Davis, where she also wrote, Broad City, High Maintenance, The Chris Gethard Show, History of Swear Words, and I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Additionally, Harrison can be heard in BoJack Horseman and Magical Girl Friendship Squad. Most recently, the comedienne co-starred in Amazon Prime's Yearly Departed.

Furthermore, Patti Harrison is seen in A Simple Favor. She also stars in Together Together, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Away from acting, Harrison wrote for Dispatches from Elsewhere and Big Mouth and co-hosts A Woman's Smile.

Ross Butler (Spine Chief)

Playing the part of Spine Chief, Ross Butler voices a notable supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Butler is known for his main role on Netflix's 13 Reasons Why. He can also be seen in Riverdale, Shazam!, Teen Beach 2, K.C. Undercover, Perfect High, The Internship, Teen Wolf, Chasing Life, and the music videos for Steve Aoki's "Waste It On Me" and Juice Wild's "Graduation." Additionally, Butler played supporting roles in To All the Boys I Loved: P.S. I Still Love You and this year's To All the Boys: Always and Forever. Next, he'll be heard in Netflix's Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. He was also set to star in Quibi's Swimming with Sharks, though the show's status is unknown after the company folded last year.

Raya and the Last Dragon arrives in theaters and on Disney+ on March 5th.

As Netflix continues to reign as the largest streaming giant in entertainment, the exciting team ups just don’t stop. The platform has had an incredible year between Aaron Sorkin and Spike Lee’s award contending films, big action films The Old Guard and Extraction and the streamer’s connections to the comedy world are especially exciting. It has just nabbed Sandra Oh and Awkwafina for a movie that sounds iconic already.

The name is still to be determined, but Sandra Oh and Awkwafina are going to play estranged sisters brought together by one’s determination to fulfill the other’s lifelong dream to be a contestant on a game show. Oh will reportedly play a “lonely recluse” whose life will be turned upside down by her “trainwreck” sister (Awkwafina) fixed on repairing their relationship.

The Netflix comedy will be written by Workaholics’ Jen D’Angelo, who is also penning the upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel, per a report by Deadline. It is also being produced by Will Ferrell himself, along with Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Itay Reiss and Maggie Haskins. Ferrell was also a producer on Booksmart and Netflix hit Dead To Me for reference. Both, obviously hilarious.

Sandra Oh is an incredibly gifted comedy actress who has seldom been given the opportunity to shine in her own movie of the genre. Oh is best known for her role in Grey’s Anatomy and in the BBC thriller Killing Eve and she has done her share of comedy in the past, but not in a leading role. Plus both of those TV roles had some comedic beats.

Sandra Oh will be in a half-hour dramedy series called The Chair from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss of Game of Thrones next. We were reminded of her sharp comedic timing when she co hosted the 2019’s Golden Globes with Andy Samberg and seriously killed it. So this next project is an exciting one.

We can already imagine it, Oh will likely be the “straight man” to Awkwafina’s wacky sister character. The young actress blew up with 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians and has since been cast in just about everything. The comedian is going to have a voice role in Disney Animation’s Raya and the Last Dragon, she just wrapped filming Marvel’s Shang-Chi with the rest of the cast and she’ll voice Scuttle in the live-action Little Mermaid film.

The buddy comedy genre is always fun, especially as a way to see how two talents bounce off each other. Oh and Awkwafina are operating off a fun premise and both have great track records of achieving some impressive chemistry with unlikely co-stars. Not to mention we just don’t see enough female-driven comedies, especially with two Asian women.

Both these actresses are extremely busy as is, but we’re excited they made room in their high-profile schedules to work together in particular. While we wait for more news about the Netflix comedy, check out what’s coming to the streaming platform in November.

The Season 10 finale of Grey’s Anatomy marked the end of Sandra Oh’s run as Dr. Cristina Yang. However, spending that long of a time with a character would make any actor invested, and Oh was very passionate about Cristina and her storylines. So much so that she recently admitted that she would “go toe-to-toe” with the writing staff and producer of Grey’s Anatomy.

Sandra Oh is no stranger to starring in high-profile television series, from Killing Eve to American Crime and more. However, Grey’s Anatomy was the longest-running show Oh had starred on, so cultivating a relationship with the writers over her ten-season stint was important.

During an interview with Scandal’s Kerry Washington Variety’s Actors on Actors, Oh discussed her experience confronting the Grey’s Anatomy writers and mega-producer Shonda Rhimes about Cristina’s storylines and why she felt it was necessary. Here’s what she told Washington:

Sandra Oh didn’t specify which of Cristina’s stories she spoke with the writers about, but she did bring up the fact that Grey’s Anatomy avoided discussing race on the show during her run. When Cristina married Burke in Season 3, Oh brought it up to the writers that there was a lot of story to mine with regards to the characters’ Asian and Black mothers, respectively, showing up to their wedding. However, Oh said they “didn’t want to touch it for whatever reason.”

Looking back on her time doing Grey’s Anatomy, however, Sandra Oh admitted that one of her biggest accomplishments was in not giving up with regards to fighting for Cristina, despite it being “challenging.” Oh was clearly protective of her character, and the actress really respected “all the writers there who rode it out” with her during her ten-year run on the show.

The Grey’s Anatomy alum currently stars in the AMC spy drama Killing Eve. The series recently wrapped its third season and has been renewed for Season 4. I’d wager that Sandra Oh is equally as protective of Eve Polastri as she was with Cristina Yang, and I hope she’s been able to speak with the Killing Eve writers about her character’s trajectory as well.

After starring in one last episode in March 2020, Justin Chambers officially became the latest star of Grey’s Anatomy to step away from the cast. Of course, when a series runs for 16 seasons (and counting), it should be expected that a few characters may be written out for one reason or another, and Chambers is far from the last actor to make an exit.

In fact, of all the founding cast members of Shonda Rhimes’ Emmy-winning medical drama, only three have remained series regulars from the start, including James Pickens Jr. as Chief Ricard Webber, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, and Ellen Pompeo in the title role of Dr. Meredith Grey. Fan favorites who have otherwise moved on from Grey’s Anatomy have become favorites among fans of the projects they have pursued since.

That being said, what are some of their most notable roles since leaving Seattle Grace Hospital and what should expect from them in the near future? We answer that question by exploring the careers of these 11 former Grey's Anatomy cast members.

Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd)

Former ‘80s heartthrob Patrick Dempsey was resurrected as a 21st Century heartthrob playing neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy. When McDreamy reached a fatal end after 11 seasons, the actor played a possible baby daddy in Bridget Jones’s Baby, the title role of 2018 miniseries The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, and a sinister banker on 10-part drama Devils, which has yet to receive American distribution. Dempsey will soon star in and executive produce the CBS political series Ways & Means and is rumored to reprise his Enchanted role in the sequel Disenchanted, if it can get out of development hell.

Sandra Oh (Dr. Cristina Yang)

After winning her first Golden Globe in 2006 for playing Cristina Yang, Sandra Oh won her second for playing the title character of acclaimed AMC drama Killing Eve at the 2019 ceremony, which she also co-hosted with Andy Samberg. In other words, since leaving Grey’s Anatomy in its 11th season, things have been going pretty well for the original cast member, born in Canada to Korean parents, who has two additional TV projects in the works, including Robert Kirkman’s animated superhero series Invincible and college-set dramedy The Chair, which Oh will also executive produce along with Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for Netflix.

Eric Dane (Dr. Mark Sloan)

Joining the cast of Grey's Anatomy in Season 2 was Eric Dane as cosmetic surgeon Mark Sloan, otherwise known as "McSteamy," who was killed in the infamous plane crash in the ninth season. Fortunately, the actor soon found a new role as the lead of TNT's The Last Ship, on which he played a navy admiral whose crew become the few survivors of a global pandemic. Currently, he plays a strict father with grave secret life on the hit HBO teen drama Euphoria and will next appear in D.J. Caruso's upcoming period romance Redeeming Love and is set to star in crime thriller The Ravine.

Katherine Heigl (Dr. Izzie Stevens)

After starring in many cult projects, like Bride of Chucky and sci-fi teen soap Roswell, Katherine Heigl really began to break out as surgical oncologist Izzie Stevens, which earned her an Emmy and paved the way for her to become the new rom-com queen with Knocked Up and 27 Dresses as notable examples. Heigl attempted a return to TV years after her 2010 Grey's Anatomy exit with two short-lived network dramas before successfully replacing Meghan Markel for the final season of USA's Suits. Next up, the actress will co-star with Sarah Chalke on Netflix series Firefly Lane and is returning to horror films as the mother of a teenage schizophrenic girl in Fear of Rain.

Justin Chambers (Dr. Alex Karev)

Izzie Stevens recently had an offscreen reconciling with ex-husband Alex Karev, which was the controversial explanation given for Justin Chambers' departure from Grey's Anatomy after a whopping 16 seasons. Prior to playing the MD, who most recently served as Chief of Staff for Pacific Northwest after his firing from Seattle Grace, the former model made his acting debut in 1995 on the soap opera Another World and would later land lead roles in major motion pictures like The Musketeer or 2005's The Zodiac (not to be confused with David Fincher's Zodiac from 2007). Chambers currently has no acting projects on the horizon, having stated to Page Six that he is, for now, focusing on "life, family, love and friendship"

Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery)

Known best for the love triangle her, Derek, and Meredith, OB/GYN Addison Montgomery was a strong enough personality on Grey's Anatomy to earn her portrayer, Kate Walsh, her own spin-off, Private Practice, which ran from 2007-2013. Since then, television is where the 52-year-old actress has continued to shine the brightest, from leading short-lived comedy Bad Judge to playing a grieving mother on hit Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why. In addition to her casting in upcoming Lily Collins-led series Emily in Paris, Walsh will also grace the silver screen as a love interest to Liam Neeson in Honest Thief and a New England motel owner in upcoming indie drama Sometime Other Than Now.

T.R. Knight (Dr. George O’Malley)

Another perpetrator of one of Grey's Anatomy's many love triangles is George O'Malley, a surgical resident at Seattle Grace who died from being hit by a bus after Emmy-nominee T.R. Knight left the series in 2009, amid some behind-the scenes controversy which we will get to soon. After a short break from acting, he played sports writer Harold Parrot in Jackie Robinson biopic 42, landed a recurring spot on The Good Wife, and starred in ABC's chronicle of the gay rights movement, When We Rise, in 2017. He will next be seen in HBO Max original thriller The Flight Attendant, opposite star and series developer Kaley Cuoco, and will play former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus in upcoming political miniseries A Higher Loyalty, based on the book by former FBI Director James Comey.

Jessica Capshaw (Dr. Arizona Robbins)

No stranger to tragedy on Grey's Anatomy is Arizona Robbins, who managed to survive all of her 10 seasons despite several deadly experiences, including the plane crash that killed Mark Sloan. Jessica Capshaw, a stepdaughter of Steven Spielberg, said goodbye to her Grey's character in 2018 and her return to acting has yet to be seen. However, at the moment, she does have a couple of films in post-production, including a romantic comedy called Holidate and coming-of-age drama Dear Zoe, which is led by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink.

Isaiah Washington (Dr. Preston Burke)

To dial back T.R. Knight's reason for leaving Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington is actually somewhat related, having used a homophobic slur on set in 2006 that caused issue with his then closeted co-star, costing him the role of surgeon Preston Burke after three seasons. While the actor never fully bounced back in popularity following the behind-the-scenes controversy, he still managed for find steady work after he was written off, including a recurring role on NBC's short-lived reimagining of Bionic Woman, a starring role on The CW's hit sci-fi drama The 100, and, more recently, an episode of the BET anthology series Tales. Washington has three feature films coming up, including post-Hurricane Katrina thriller Cut Throat City, coming-of-age drama James the Second, and prison escape story Escape from Black Water.

Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres)

Sara Ramirez made her acting debut with a brief but funny scene in the 1998 romantic comedy You've Got Mail, followed by other small roles in big films like Sam Raimi's firs Spider-Man and Chicago, which brought her theatre skills to the big screen, before breaking out Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy in Season 2. The orthopedic surgeon would actually be the first of two bisexual TV characters the real-life bisexual Ramirez would play, having followed her 2016 exit by playing Kat Sandoval on Madame Secretary. The Mexican born singer-songwriter, who showed off her vocal talents on the Season 7 musical episode of Grey's and her self-titled album in 2011, has no acting major projects happening at the moment, but keeps busy with her efforts as an activist for LGBTQ+ rights.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Denny Duquette)

Although his role was relatively brief (save a few posthumous appearances) and he did not even play a doctor on Grey's Anatomy, heart patient Denny Duquette is still cited as one of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's more memorable characters, especially the romance he shared with Izzie until his heartbreaking death. Today, he is better known for playing more comic book characters than most actors do in a lifetime, including The Comedian in Zack Snyder's 2009 Watchmen adaptation, Bruce Wayne's father in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and, more recently, the brutal, baseball bat-wielding Negan on The Walking Dead. Morgan is currently filming Shrine, a horror film based on James Herbert's novel in which he plays a journalist investigating strange events in a New England town.

This week’s episode was a change of pace for Killing Eve, which followed Jodie Comer’s Oksana on her journey home for a short-lived reunion with her family. Episode 5 provided some much-needed insight into Villanelle’s past, combined with shocking character development. But as we move forward wondering what to expect next week, there’s a massive cliffhanger dangling in front of us we need to see resolved: the murder of Eve’s husband Niko, as committed by Harriet Walter’s Dasha.

The jaw-dropping kill had Dasha luring Eve to Poland with the expectation of mending things with her hubby after the events in Season 2. As revealed in Episode 4, Dasha was the one pulling the strings on their communication the whole time. Once Eve made it to him in Poland, Dasha stabbed him right in the throat and secretly killed him right in front of Eve.

Eve has certainly seen more than her share of death recently, and fans are really concerned over how Sandra Oh’s character will be able to cope with another major loss. That said, it was an interesting development that it was Dasha pulling the strings here. The Twelve seem to be following through with their plan to take out everyone nearest and dearest to Eve, but what about Villanelle? Is Dasha a threat to her as well? CinemaBlend had the chance to speak with Harriet Walter about her character in Season 3, and here’s what she told me:

It’s really tough to tell where things will go from here, isn’t it? That’s exactly why we love Killing Eve. As Harriet Walter told me, there’s certainly a give-and-take situation happening between Villanelle and Dasha here. The latter has an upper hand because she really doesn’t know what to expect, but Villanelle is really on the top of her kill game. Dasha’s been providing Oksana with a fancy place to stay, along with the opportunity to move up with the Twelve. But then again, Killing Eve is great at setting up trust issues.

When discussing Dasha’s specific role in Villanelle’s character arc this season, Harriet Walter said this:

It’s good to keep in mind that Dasha has known Villanelle for a long time, so she knows how the devious killer works. Maybe somewhat in the same way that Konstantine does? Harriet Walter continued:

Now that we’re midway through Killing Eve Season 3, there’s definitely a lot of questions we have moving forward and Dasha is moving closer to the center of the web. How is the season already half over?!?

Killing Eve recently returned for its third season on television, one again cementing Phoebe Waller-Bridge's ability to craft wholly unique and thrilling television. Television fans were thrilled or another entry into the magnetic dynamic between Villanelle and Eve, especially as the second season ended with the latter character being shot. While two episodes had previously aired, Season 3 really hit its stride with Episode 3, titled "Meetings Have Biscuits."

The first two episodes of the season were strong, but something was missing for me. Namely, the connection between Eve and Villanelle; they were kept in entirely different countries. What's more, it wasn't clear if Sandra Oh's title character still had the same fascination and feeling toward Oxana. But that changed in Episode 3, as they came face to face in an unexpected conflict on a bus.

As Eve continues to work through Kenny's death, Oxana surprises her and shows up on her bus. They quickly break out into a physical conflict, with Eve fighting to her life against the young assassin. But Villanelle wasn't there for her, as she was assigned to kill Kruger before he could aid Carolyn. The two also share their first kiss, right before Eve head-butts her and they separate.

This conflict was exactly what I needed to go all in on Season 3. Their dynamic is the most fascinating aspect of Killing Eve, especially as it continues to unfold with each new episode. I was worried that Eve's feelings for Villanelle might be dwindling after her latest near death experience, but that's not the case. She was the one who initiated both the kiss and the physical violence. She's become the aggressor in their relationship, and clearly still has very strong feelings for Oxana.

Of course, Villanelle isn't one to let someone else get the last word. So she leaves a talking stuffed animal in Eve's bed. It's both threatening and intoxicating for the title character, showing how much they remain drawn to each other. There's no telling what Killing Eve's third season will have in store as the action picks up, but we don't have to worry about the show missing the magic of the two protagonists' connection.

Episode 3 also really ramped up the violence for the season, which was another change I was thrilled with. While Villanelle's kills are always epic, "Meetings Have Biscuits" ranked up the body count, and the physical encounters were visceral. But realism is also at the heart of said action; while Eve looked badass head-butting Villanelle, she had a shiner for the rest of the episode. She looked like she got into a fight that day, forcing her to get honest with her new allies.

Killing Eve recently returned to television for its third season, and it's already been an interesting journey. But we've yet to see Eve and Villanelle reunite after the shocking twist ending of Season 2, which saw Oksana shoot the title character. Aside from her Emmy winning role as Eve, Sandra Oh is largely known for playing Cristina Yang in Grey's Anatomy. And now Killing Eve is mirroring Grey's in a fun way.

On paper, Killing Eve and Grey's Anatomy are vastly different shows. While they both have dramedy aspects, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's thrilling BBC America crime drama can't really be compared to ABC's long-running medical procedural. But an Villanelle's promotion within The Twelve is actually mirroring Cristina's journey as an attending surgery in Grey's fourth and fifth seasons. Hear me out.

Villanelle is more than just an assassin in Season 3 of Killing Eve, as she's also being trained as a Keeper for The Twelve. The second episode of the season found her attempting to mentor another young killer named Felix. This is a process that initially frustrates Jodie Domer's character, as she talks down about her new protegee's ability in "the field." It's fun seeing Villanelle in this new dynamic, possibly indicating some maturity in the future (if that's even possible.)

When Grey's Anatomy's fourth season began, the original cast of interns were promoted to attending surgeons on Seattle Grace. Cristina is given her own slew of interns, who she immediately dismisses as idiots. What's more, Yang doesn't even learn their names, instead assigning each intern a number. She ends up being a pretty awful teacher for the next two seasons, as Cristina's personal ambition is her driving force.

I'm admittedly in the midst of a Grey's Anatomy re-watch as we're all spending more time in our homes. Perhaps I've got Cristina Yang on the mind, but I'm assuming that I'm not the only Grey's fan who tuned into Killing Eve and has noticed this similarity. Sandra Oh's character might be trying to lay low as a dumpling cook, but Villanelle's promotion does feel like it's a connection between the two Emmy winning shows. The stakes are obviously different, but there is a common theme of a brilliant but awful mentor.

I'm eager to see Eve and Villanelle finally reunite, as their fascinating connection is at the crux of Killing Eve. As for Grey's Anatomy, the show's whopping 16th season ended early after TV sets were shut down amid health concerns. Sandra Oh hasn't expressed any interest in reprising her role as the cardio god/Meredith's person, but hopefully she'll change her tune for a series finale. That is if Grey's ever ends its tenure on the air.

Over the past few years, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has become a household name for her work on the big and small screen. On TV, she's got two hit shows in Fleabag and Killing Eve, both of which have won Emmy Awards. The latter show just returned to BBC America and AMC, the joy of the many fans who missed seeing Eve and Villanelle on our screens every week. The Season 3 premiere of Killing Eve just aired, but there was some thing crucial missing for me: the two leads didn't actually interact.

The wait for Killing Eve's return has been excruciating for fans like me, especially given the wild cliffhanger of Season 2. In a moment of cyclical storytelling, Villanelle shot Eve in the finale, and fans were left wondering if she managed to survive. Luckily she did just that, and was shown living in alcoholic isolation. Meanwhile, we saw the bonkers way everyone's favorite killer has been coping since her "breakup" with Eve.

The episode functioned like a typical installment of Killing Eve. There was a mixture of drama and humor, as the cast of characters' relationships continue to grow in the wake of crime solving and murder. But it was hard not seeing the two leads meet. Furthermore, it seems like their fascination with each other has really slowed down... and that's a big missing piece for me.

What makes Killing Eve such a fascinating watch (besides Villanelle's utterly awesome kills) is the dynamic between Sandra Oh's Eve and Jodie Comer's Oksana. While they are foes who are on opposite sides of the law, they're also drawn to each other in an almost primal way. Seeing their game of cat and mouse is what hooked me on the show, especially as their personal connection deepened. But the Season 3 premiere was wholly lacking this aspect to the story.

The only real indication we had of Killing Eve's two leads being drawn to each other was in Villanelle's hilarious wedding sequence in the premiere's first act. It looks like Oksana found a rebound after shooting Eve in the Season 2 finale, and speed tracked their relationship to marriage level in just six months. But Villanelle acts utterly bizarre throughout the reception, and even goes on a rant about her ex. As for Eve, she doesn't seem to be feeling the same way.

Obviously Killing Eve's title character has every right to abandon her fascination with Villanelle. After all, she was shot in the finale and has been struggling with the physical and emotional toll of that near death experience. But Kenny's death was a shocking button for the episode, so clearly Eve is still in grave danger. Might this be the reason for a reconnection with Villanelle? Only time will tell.

Following the novel coronavirus outbreak, the world looks a lot different now than it did a month ago. Many businesses have closed temporarily, hundreds of TV productions have shut down, and most people are likely hunkered down at home in quarantine. Meanwhile, doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel continue working on the frontlines to treat those who have been infected. To honor them and the work they’re doing, Grey’s Anatomy vets Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh joined Scrubs and ER stars for a special tribute video.

The separation between TV and reality has never been more important, and a number of fake doctors are publicly applauding the real-life heroes who are risking their own lives to serve their communities daily. Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo previously thanked medical personnel, while the staff of Fox’s The Resident donated medical supplies to an Atlanta hospital. More recently, House alum Olivia Wilde posted a video message from a host of actors who have played doctors on TV thanking medical staff everywhere for their diligence, dedication, and life-saving work. The video brought together quite a group of familiar faces from across television, including Doogie Howser, M.D. alum Neil Patrick Harris, The Good Doctor’s Freddie Highmore, Scrubs’ Zach Braff and Donald Faison, and House vet Jennifer Morrison, who all chimed in to express their gratitude. Even Jennifer Garner, who didn’t play a doctor on TV, but did in the movie Dallas Buyers Club, joined in with a message.

Some messages were funny, with a lot of jokes about TV doctors thrown in for good measure, while others were more heartfelt and touching. Grey’s Anatomy alum Sandra Oh even took a moment to shout-out her brother-in-law, an emergency room doctor in Vancouver, for all that he continues doing in the wake of COVID-19. At the end of it all, the sentiment was clear.

The video ended with a note to donate to Thrive Global’s First Responders First, a fundraiser dedicated to providing first responders with essential equipment like gloves, masks, and gowns so that all healthcare professionals can continue doing their jobs safely. The fundraiser is set up in partnership with the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

Over in the land of television, medical dramas like New Amsterdam and Grey’s Anatomy were unable to finish out their episode orders this season due to production shutdowns, with certain storylines getting shortchanged and likely shelved for the next TV season. Meanwhile, The Good Doctor managed to get a proper season finale, but the show killed off one of its main characters, so it was a bit of a buzzkill.

It’s been a rough few weeks for television fans as we’ve seen a slew of production delays for television shows amidst lockdowns around the world, but thankfully Killing Eve has decided to swoop in and fill a void by premiering two weeks early on BBC America and AMC. The thrilling Emmy-winning series, which comes from creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge and stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, left fans with a ton to think about over the ten months that it's been on hiatus.

Before diving back into the cat-and-mouse game of Killing Eve for Season 3's premiere, allow the following to refresh your memory. Here are the most important things to remember. SPOILERS ahead for Killing Eve Season 2. If you’re not caught up on the series ahead of the premiere this Sunday April 12, catch up on Hulu here, AMC here or BBC America here.

Villanelle Shot Eve In Rome

The final cliffhanger that has us anxiously coming into Season 3 of Killing Eve cam in the last minutes of the Season 2 finale. After an operation gone wrong in Rome, Sandra Oh’s Eve and Jodie Comer’s Villanelle found themselves each at a crossroads in their lives. Eve felt betrayed by the MI6 Russian operation led by Carolyn Martens and Villanelle had pissed off the Twelve to the point of a hit being placed on her own head.

While wandering in the ruins of Rome, Villanelle suggested they go off and live in Alaska together with the car and money Konstantin had given her. When Eve refused, Villanelle shot her. It’s unclear just where the bullet went…but it’s safe to assume Eve will be okay (I mean the show’s named after her right?) But just how will she come back from this?

Eve Was Coerced Into Murder By Villanelle

Right before Eve was shot by Villanelle, the Russian assassin found herself in front of her handler Raymond, who planned to hack at her with a very large axe. But for some reason, he dropped the large weapon and resorted to attempting to choke her death before Eve came to the scene. Villanelle convinced Eve to grab the axe and she picketed it into his back.

In the heat of the moment, Villanelle told Eve she needed to swing that axe right at his head and kill him, otherwise he’d have kept coming after them. Eve did it, thus committing her first murder (and a crazy bloody one at that). Oh’s character thought she did it out of necessity until she found out Villanelle had a gun at her disposal the entire time. How will Eve cope with that first taste of murder? The honeymoon phase between her and Villanelle has to be over, that’s for sure.

Konstantin Knows Something About Villanelle’s Family

Villanelle turned on not just Eve at the end of Season 2, as the assassin also seemed to cut ties with her old friend Konstantin (Kim Bodnia). Once again, he helped her get out of a sticky situation by stalling the Twelve from killing her until she took out Aaron Peel. He offered her a car and money to run away from it all, but she didn’t want to leave Eve. Angered at Konstantin’s pleas for her to forget Eve and go on her own again, as well as the manipulation in play involving Peel, she promised to come after him and his family in spite.

But during their last exchange, Konstantin’s briefly mentioned that some of Villanelle’s family may still be alive. This could serve as leverage down the line for Konstantin to keep Villanelle close. Plus, she certainly has a soft spot for finding somewhere to belong. Remember, she's attracted to Eve because they are "the same."

The Twelve Are Still In Play

The action at the underbelly of Killing Eve has to do with the group of assassins called The Twelve, which Villanelle was a part of without her explicit knowledge. Both Raymond and Konstantin were her handlers for The Twelve, but she keeps running away from them. When Raymond was killed by Eve, he vowed to both Villanelle and Eve that they would come after not only them, but their families and friends.

While Villanelle remained without enough ties for that to matter much to her, Eve certainly has a few more loved ones The Twelve could target in order to taunt and haunt her. Maybe this shared threat from the organization will be what ultimately pulls the pair together again?

Villanelle Killed Niko’s New Girlfriend

Another boiling plot line to keep in mind as we head into Killing Eve Season 3 is the torn relationship between Eve and Niko. The couple’s lives were really broken apart last season, with Villanelle having a ton to do with that. As the season pulled to an end, Niko had left Eve and moved in with a colleague from his school, which went down after Villanelle confronted Niko to tell him that Eve had stabbed her in Paris.

At the end of Season 2, Villanelle also paid Niko and his new girlfriend a visit to provoke him, and killed her in front of his eyes. It will be interesting to see how Niko’s role continues from there. Will he and Eve band together in shared trauma over Villanelle’s actions, or will the two become completely estranged?

Hugo Could Still Be Alive

Eve made a lot of rash decisions during the final stretch of Season 2 and if we are to assume she lives through it (and the Season 3 trailer offers a hint) she will be grappling with the aftermaths. Such as the moment when she left her partner Hugo (Edward Bluemel) in the Roman hotel bleeding to save Villanelle. Hugo looked like he was in pretty bad shape when she walked away from him, but it’s unclear if he actually died or made it out alive.

When Eve returned to the hotel after getting to Villanelle, the whole bloody scene had been cleaned up and Carolyn alluded to a crew that had taken care of the situation. We’ll have to watch and find out if Hugo comes back into the picture or not.

No One Is Happy With Carolyn

Arguably the last point to remember is all of Carolyn Martens’ shadiness. The way things left off, we learned that Carolyn actually wanted Villanelle to kill Aaron Peel the whole time without anyone being the wiser. Carolyn’s son Kenny tried to warn Eve not to go on the mission in Rome, likely because he knew what was about to go down.

Carolyn paid off Konstantin to manipulate Eve as well and stall the Twelve. Overall, there’s a lot of hate being passed around MI6’s Head of Russia. And she’s certainly proved that she cannot be trusted, so what's to come in Season 3?

Fans of The Walking Dead received less than thrilling news after it was announced that the Season 10 finale was being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. While filming on the episode had already wrapped, post-production was unable to be completed in time for its scheduled April 12 air date. Instead of airing a rerun of the show, AMC is replacing The Walking Dead’s Season 10 finale time slot with another series.

AMC execs recently made the decision to move up Killing Eve’s Season 3 premiere by two weeks. The drama will now debut on Sunday, April 12 instead of on April 26. The series starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer is critically acclaimed and incredibly popular, so it makes sense that the folks at AMC would choose to fill the void left behind by The Walking Dead with another one of the network’s fan-favorite series. In a statement (via Variety), president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios Sarah Barnett shared her excitement over fans getting to see Killing Eve even earlier than before. In her words:

This is great news for fans of Killing Eve, at least. The drama, which follows assassin Villanelle and former MI6 operative Eve Polastri, broke ratings records in Season 1 and has been a staple of AMC and BBC America since its premiere in 2018.

Considering that the series’ third season was already set to premiere next month, there probably won’t be any schedule delays or changes. Season 3 is set to kick off not long after the Season 2 cliffhanger, which saw Villanelle shoot Eve after she refused to run away with her.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, television networks and studios have had to shift things around to accommodate delays and production shutdowns. The Walking Dead isn’t the only AMC show facing postponement. The Walking Dead: World Beyond spin-off was also scheduled to premiere on April 12. However, with the Season 10 finale delayed and World Beyond’s premiere date pushed back to later this year, AMC luckily had Killing Eve on deck and ready to fill the scheduling gap.

Sandra Oh has been busy since leaving Grey’s Anatomy. She has been starring in the hit series Killing Eve, which has been renewed. Now, you can add another new series to the actress’s impressive repertoire. Oh has signed on to lead the first Netflix series from Game of Thrones’ showrunners.

Last year, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss made headlines with their lucrative multi-year deal with Netflix. Now, the showrunners have their first new TV show ready, with Sandra Oh as part of that agreement. Oh is set to star in the dramedy The Chair, which she will also executive produce, per THR. What is The Chair about?

It is a dramedy that follows the life and times of Sandra Oh’s character, who is the English department chair at a major university. The series will be a departure from Killing Eve and Grey’s Anatomy, both of which are hour-long dramas. The Chair is a dramedy with a half-hour runtime.

Amanda Peet is the co-creator of The Chair along with Game of Thrones’ showrunners. In some side note trivia, Peet is married to Game of Thrones’ showrunner David Benioff. As for Sandra Oh’s starring vehicle, Peet will serve as showrunner on The Chair, which she will executive produce along with Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Bernie Caulfield.

Who will be joining Sandra Oh in the series? She already has one co-star signed on in Jay Duplass. His role was not specified, so it will be interesting to learn more. Suffice it to say, I could see Oh and Duplass working quite well off of each other. In the various content I have seen them in, they have both showcased impeccable comic timing and dramatic skills.

Sandra Oh may not ever return to Grey’s Anatomy to reprise her fan-favorite role as Cristina Yang. However, The Chair sounds like another fabulous starring vehicle for the mega-talented actress, in my opinion. After an outstandingly successful ten-season run on Grey’s Anatomy, Oh left the series in 2014. Fast forward to today, and she has earned critical acclaim for her work on the TV thriller, Killing Eve.

As for Game of Thrones' showrunners, The Chair sounds like a departure for the duo, who spent eight seasons in the sci-fi fantasy realm for the series. Thankfully, a coffee cup will not be an out-of-place sight for The Chair. After years of killing off beloved characters on Game of Thrones, a Netflix dramedy about an English department chair should be a refreshing new venture for them.

Sandra Oh starring in a series for Netflix also has to be a delight for the streaming giant. Last year, Netflix promoted Oh’s Killing Eve even though it was solely streaming on its rival -- Hulu. You have to imagine they are thrilled that Killing Eve’s star will now be starring in a series for them. Promote away, Netflix!

A premiere date for The Chair is still pending. Thankfully, there is a lot of television arriving during this winter and spring. You can catch a ton of new Netflix content coming in 2020 in the meantime.

ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has now been on for an astounding 15 seasons and was recently renewed for Seasons 16 and 17, with 16 starting in the fall. As you would imagine, there has been quite a lot of turnover in the cast over the years, as is usually the case with shows that endure for as long as Grey’s Anatomy has.

Incredibly, it is worth noting that the show of the nine original main cast members, four are still with the show and have appeared in every season, including the star, Ellen Pompeo, who of course plays Meredith Grey. Alex Karev, played by Justin Chambers, started as a moody intern, and is now a senior member of the surgical team. Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson has worked her up the ladder as well, starting as a resident and now acting as Chief of Surgery and finally Dr. Richard Webber, played by James Pickens Jr., remains from the inaugural season as well.

It’s impressive that so many actors have remained in their original roles, but the list of cast members who have departed is much longer, and is highlighted by the well-publicized departure of Dr. McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey, who granted was on the show for quite some time.

Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd)

Patrick Dempsey joined the cast in the very beginning of Grey's Anatomy, with his first appearance as Derek Shepherd, Meredith Grey’s husband in the pilot episode. Dempsey also came to the show with a solid resume, starring in films like Can’t Buy Me Love, Loverboy, and Outbreak.

Since dramatically leaving the show when his character tragically died, Patrick Dempsey has been a very busy person, but mostly off-screen. He's done other things, notably, racing cars. After he left Grey’s in 2015, Dempsey has spent most of his time on his other passion, driving race cars and owning racing teams. He’s competed in dozens of races, including premiere events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He’s acted a little bit, but seems to spend most of his time in the racing world and with his three children.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Denny Duquette)

It's hard to forget that Jeffrey Dean Morgan spent parts of Seasons 2, 3, and 4 playing Denny Duquette, a patient and boyfriend of Katherine Heigl’s character, Dr. Izzie Stevens.

This is because Grey’s Anatomy is the gig that introduced the great Jeffery Dean Morgan to most of America. Along with his reoccurring role on Grey’s, the actor had worked steadily, notably on Supernatural and Weeds, but it was Grey’s that gave him a mainstream breakout. Of course today, his role as Negan on The Walking Dead has become legendary as one of the most brutal villains in TV history.

Jessica Capshaw (Arizona Robbins)

Jessica Capshaw, the daughter of actress Kate Capshaw and the stepdaughter of Steven Spielberg, first became a full cast member of Grey’s Anatomy in Season 6 after a run as a reoccurring role as pediatric surgeon Arizona Robbins in Season 5. She left the show during Season 14 after a dispute with the producers. Since leaving the show last year she has laid low, with only one credit on IMDB, a comedy called Hollidate.

Isaiah Washington (Preston Burke)

Isaiah Washington’s departure from the show after Season 3 is still probably the most controversial. Washington, who played Dr. Preston Burke, was fired from the show after reports that he had used a homophobic slur more than once on the set and elsewhere.

After such a high-profile dismissal from Grey’s Anatomy, it took some time for Washington’s career to get back on its feet. He starred in a handful of indie and foreign films and did some guest spots here and there on TV before landing a role the CW’s The 100, where he starred for five seasons before leaving the show last year.

Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens)

Starting young in her adult life, Katherine Heigl  had a decent resume already when she joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in the very beginning. She had starred in a handful of movies, like everyone’s favorite Steven Seagal flick, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, but it was Grey’s for which she won an Emmy as Dr. Izzie Stevens, really launching her career into the stratosphere.

Since leaving the show, she’s been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in 2007’s Knocked Up, and starred in a bunch of rom-coms like Killers, One For The Money, and Life As We Know It. Her TV lead roles include Doubt and State of Affairs. She currently stars as a Samantha Wheeler on Suits on USA.

Kyle Chandler (Dylan Young)

Kyle Chandler had a remarkable year in 2006. Not only did he land the lead as Coach Taylor on Friday Night Lights, but he also did a 2-episode story arc on Grey’s Anatomy that earned him an Emmy nomination.

Since then, Friday Night Lights enjoyed a long, critically-acclaimed and popular run and he’s starred in quite a few movies, including 2018’s First Man as legendary astronaut Deke Slaton and in the recent release Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He also notably starred in Netflix's Bloodline and can now be seen in Hulu's Catch-22.

Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey)

Chyler Leigh joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as Meredith’s younger sister in Season 3 and by Season 4 she was a part of the main cast. Lexie died in a plane crash in the Season 8 finale, tragically for fans of her character.

Since leaving Grey’s, Chyler Leigh has starred on Supergirl as the titular character’s sister and has appeared in both Arrow, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow which all exist in the same superhero universe as Supergirl.

T.R. Knight (George O’Malley)

T.R. Knight was also one of the original cast members on the show, starring as Dr. George O’Malley in Season 1 and beyond. It was T.R. Knight who was in the middle of Isaiah Washington’s controversial exit in Season 3 and it was in part the reason he left after Season 6, with his character being killed off in a bus accident.

In the years since leaving show, he married his longtime boyfriend Patrick Leahy and has had a handful of roles in movies, like legendary baseball scribe Harold Parrott in 42. In addition, he's also taken a few reoccurring roles in projects like The Good Wife and the Hulu streaming miniseries, 11.22.63.

Sarah Drew (April Kepner)

Sarah Drew joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 6 mostly as an antagonist to the other doctors and became a main cast member in Season 7, where she stayed until the end of Season 14, when, like Jessica Capshaw, she left over creative differences. In the time since, she has started in two pilots, a reboot of Carney & Lacey and The Republic Of Sarah, but neither show made it into production.

Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres)

Legend has it that after Sara Ramirez was offered a job on any show on ABC after winning a Tony Award for her performance in Spamalot on Broadway, she chose Grey’s Anatomy because she was a fan. She quickly became part of the main cast in Season 3 and she then spent the next 10 years on the show as Dr. Callie Torres.

After leaving the show after Season 12, she joined the cast of Madame Secretary in Season 4 as an advisor to Secretary of State Bess McCord, played by Tea Leoni.

Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang)

Sandra Oh's departure from Grey's Anatomy is one the fans are still feeling. For 10 seasons, Oh starred as Dr. Cristina Yang, a surgeon who rises through the ranks over the before departing to work in Zurich (where we still bet she doesn't do her laundry). She has never returned to the show, despite being one of the most popular characters in the show’s history.

Since leaving Grey’s, Sandra Oh has been extremely busy, starring in movies and TV shows and most recently serving as the host of the Golden Globe Awards in 2019. She's appeared in Shitty Boyfriends and American Crime. Then, there's her main job right now: starring in the critically acclaimed British spy thriller TV show, Killing Eve.

Eric Dane (Mark Sloan)

Eric Dane was already a pretty big TV star when he joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in Season 3, having a resume that stretched back to the 1980s. As Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s, he was Derek Shepard’s best friend and the boyfriend of Lexie Grey. He also perished in the same plane crash that took her life.

Dane left Grey’s Anatomy a little reluctantly because he was offered the lead in The Last Ship as Captain Tom Chandler--a lead role instead of just a big one. Now, all of him can be seen on the new HBO Series Euphoria.

Jerrika Hinton (Stephanie Edwards)

Jerrika Hinton spent four seasons as Dr. Stephanie Edwards. Hinton became a full cast member in Season 10 and remained through Season 13 when she left to become part of the cast of HBO’s short-lived Here And Now. She is currently filming The Hunt for Amazon Video, co-starring Al Pacino, Lena Olin, and Logan Lerman.

It’s not surprising that Grey’s Anatomy has had such a big turnover in its cast over the years, but that is great testimony to their ability to cast with excellent new actors and interesting new characters--and we didn't even get into people like Kate Walsh, who successfully transitioned from Grey's to Private Practice. So, truly we could go on and on. The show isn’t going anywhere for a at least a couple more seasons, so we’ll probably see some more turnover in the future too, but fans of the show need not worry, they obviously know what they are doing.

Well, Chevy Chase might not be happy with Saturday Night Live anymore, but the show still has tons of fans who eagerly await news of the comedy staple, and Season 44 is already promising to deliver some surprises. We already know, for instance, that Alec Bladwin's lauded impression of President Trump will be back this season, but potentially not as frequently as before. This is also yet another season where longest-running cast member Kenan Thompson will add his unique brand of humor to weekly laugh fest, along with some players who have recently been upgraded to repertory status.

Obviously, covering politics has been huge for SNL the past few seasons, but Leslie Jones, for one, would like to see the show cut back on that a bit, if possible, and bring the laughs with more old fashioned silliness whenever it can. If the Season 43 blooper reel is any indication, you can be sure that pretty much everyone involved in the new season will be able to do just that on a weekly basis. While I'm sure a good number of guest hosts have to deal with at least a bit of stage fright before hitting the live stage, they usually mange to pull off fantastic performances nonetheless. Season 44 of Saturday Night Live is still going strong, and every fan wants to know who will be hosting the show and appearing as musical guest on a weekly basis. Luckily, we've got that for you, right here!

May 18 - Paul Rudd With Musical Guest DJ Khaled

Actor Paul Rudd, fresh off his appearance in one of the biggest movies of all time, Avengers: Endgame, will host for the fourth time on SNL's last episode of the season. DJ Khaled will make his debut as musical guest that night to promote his new album, Father of Asahd. In addition, the show will welcome several other musical guests for the season finale. John Legend, Sza, Lil Baby, Jeremih, Meek Mill, Lil Wayne, Big Sean and J Balvin will also appear that night.

September 29 - Adam Driver With Musical Guest Kanye West

The Season 44 opener will have Kylo Ren himself, Adam Driver, once again step up as guest host. Driver first hosted SNL back in Season 41, which led to some rather well-known sketches that ended up going viral after his episode aired, so it's no big surprise that he's been asked to return. He most recently appeared in the Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman, but has several projects in various state of production right now, including The Man Who Killed Don Quixote and Star Wars: Episode IX. Kanye West will make his sixth appearance as musical guest for the opening, with many assuming he's about to release Yeezus 2, even though that hasn't been confirmed yet.

October 6 - Awkwafina With Musical Guest Travis Scott

Taking on hosting duties for the first time during SNL's second week back will be rapper/actress Awkwafina. She's had a breakout year, with roles in Ocean's 8 and the mega hit romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians. She's also had parts in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and Future Man, and has several new projects in various states of production right now. Rapper Travis Scott will be appearing to promote his third studio album, "Astroworld," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in August.

October 13 - Seth Meyers With Musical Guest Paul Simon

Former SNL head writer and Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers will return to the show in October. Meyers, who's been hosting Late Night with Seth Meyers since 2014, will be back as host for the first time. Music legend Paul Simon will hit the stage in support of his recently released 14th album, "In the Blue Light."

November 3 - Jonah Hill With Musical Guest Maggie Rogers

Jonah Hill will hit the SNL stage the first weekend of November. The Oscar nominated actor appears in the recent Netflix series Maniac with Emma Stone, and his directorial debut, Mid90s, is in theaters right now. Singer Maggie Rogers is making her first appearance on the show in support of her upcoming album "Heard It in a Past Life."

November 10 - Liev Schreiber With Musical Guest Lil Wayne

Actor Liev Schreiber is making his hosting debut on the comedy for the November 10 show. Schreiber stars in the Showtime drama Ray Donovan, which is currently in its sixth season. He'll be joined by musical guest Lil Wayne, who recently released his 12th album, "Tha Carter V."

November 17 - Steve Carell With Musical Guest Ella Mai

Funny man Steve Carell will host SNL for the third time on November 17. While he's still fondly remembered for his time playing goofy boss Michael Scott on The Office, he's made great strides in dramatic movies since then. Carell can be seen this year in the movies Beautiful Boy, Welcome to Marwen and Vice. Singer/songwriter Ella Mai will hit the sketch show's stage for the first time when she appears. Her debut album was released in October, and features the multi-platinum hits "Boo'd Up" and "Trip."

December 1 - Claire Foy With Musical Guest Anderson .Paak

The Crown star and Golden Globe winner Claire Foy will host December's first SNL this season. While she came to prominence because of her role as Queen Elizabeth II on the Netflix drama, she's also known for Wolf Hall, Unsane, The Girl In the Spider's Web and First Man. Grammy nominee Anderson .Paak will make his debut on the show the same night.

December 8 - Jason Momoa With Musical Guest Mumford & Sons

After December 8 you might have visions of Khal Drogo dancing in your head for the holidays, because that's when Jason Momoa will hop onto the Saturday Night Live stage for the first time to play host. Momoa also starred as Aquaman in Justice League and is leading his own film as the character, which is due out December 21. Folk rock band Mumford & Sons will perform to promote their latest album, "Delta."

December 15 - Matt Damon With Musical Guests Mark Ronson And Miley Cyrus

Matt Damon will hit the stage in mid-December to host for the first time. In the past year, he's made surprise appearances in several films, like Thor: Ragnarok, Deadpool 2 and Unsane. Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus will perform their new single "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart."

January 19 - Rachel Brosnahan With Musical Guest Greta Van Fleet

The first show of 2019 will see actress Rachel Brosnahan give SNL hosting duties a try for the first time. Brosnahan has made a name for herself recently with her Golden Globe winning performance in the Amazon comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Up and coming rock band Greta Van Fleet will appear as musical guest to promote their debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army.

January 26 - James McAvoy With Musical Guest Meek Mill

James McAvoy will step in to host SNL for his first time on January 26. The actor is getting rave reviews for his work in Glass, and will also be seen later this year in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and IT: Chapter Two. Rapper Meek Mill is also making his Saturday Night Live debut on the same night, and will be appearing to promote his new album, Championships, which hit number one upon its release last November.

February 9 - Halsey With Musical Guest Halsey

That's right, singer Halsey will act as host and musical guest when she comes to Saturday Night Live in February. The Grammy-nominee is a multi-platinum selling artist, with several singles having ranked high on the Billboard charts.

February 16 - Don Cheadle With Musical Guest Gary Clark Jr.

Oscar nominee Don Cheadle will make his hosting debut when SNL has its second live February episode. The actor is currently starring in Black Monday on Showtime and will also be seen in the upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. Grammy-winning musician Gary Clark Jr., who's best known for his fusion of blues, rock, soul and hip hop, will hit the stage in support of his new album, This Land, which comes out on March 1.

March 2 - John Mulaney With Musical Guest Thomas Rhett

Former SNL writer and comedian John Mulaney will return to the show for his second stint as host on March 2. Mulaney, who's one of only three non-cast member writers to return and host the comedy, lent his voice to last year's Oscar winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Country music hit maker Thomas Rhett will perform that night to debut music from his forthcoming album.

March 9 - Idris Elba With Musical Guest Khalid

Idris Elba will make his debut as SNL host on March 9. The actor can be seen later this year in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Cats and the TV series Turn Up Charlie. Best-selling R&B/pop singer Khalid will appear in support of his second album, Suncity, which was released last October.

March 30 - Sandra Oh With Musical Guest Tame Impala

Making her hosting debut on SNL at the end of March will be Killing Eve actress, and Golden Globe winner, Sandra Oh. Oh, who's also known for her many seasons on Grey's Anatomy, is gearing up for the second season of her hit BBC America show. Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala will also debut on the stage that night to perform in support of their most recent album, Currents.

April 6 - Kit Harington With Musical Guest Sara Bareilles

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington will stop by for hosting duties just a few days before the final season of the acclaimed HBO fantasy series premieres. Appearing as musical guest will be singer / songwriter Sara Bareilles, who will be releasing her sixth studio album, Amidst the Chaos, this year.

April 13 - Emma Stone With Musical Guest BTS

Hitting the stage for the fourth time will be host Emma Stone, who was recently Oscar nominated for The Favourite. Stone will be seen later this year in Zombieland: Double Tap. K-pop superstars BTS will perform to support their new album, Map of the Soul: Persona.

May 4 - Adam Sandler With Musical Guest Shawn Mendes

The first weekend in May will see another former SNL cast member come back to host, but for the first time. That's right, Adam Sandler, despite all his movie success, hasn't hosted the show that brought him to the attention of comedy lovers everywhere until now. Sandler will join second time musical guest Shawn Mendes on the episode.

May 11 - Emma Thompson With Musical Guest Jonas Brothers

Two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson will step up to the SNL stage to host for the first time on May 11. Thompson has the films Late Night, Men in Black: International, Last Christmas and How to Build a Girl all coming this year. The musical guest for the evening will be the newly reformed Jonas Brothers, who will appear to promote their upcoming album, Happiness Begins.

It'll take at least one more season to kill Eve! Killing Eve just premiered Season 2 last night and BBC America has already renewed it for Season 3.

Killing Eve will also continue its tradition of each season having a new woman in charge -- Season 1 had lead writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge as showrunner; Season 2 had Emerald Fennell as lead writer/showrunner; with Season 3 to be run by Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer and executive producer.

Killing Eve really is an untraditional show, and not just for things like the Season 2 premiere being titled "Do You Know How to Dispose of a Body?" It's very unusual for a show to grow across its first season. In fact, Killing Eve Season 1 had an unprecedented unbroken record of weekly ratings growth in the key adults 25-54 and 18-49 demos. As BBC America bragged, that is "something no other show on television has accomplished in the history of Nielsen live+3 ratings."

Granted, it's not getting Big Bang Theory numbers, but word of mouth kept it growing and growing, landing series highs with 1.25 million viewers in live+3, up 86 percent from premiere -- with 378,000 adults 18-49, up 100 percent from the premiere.

Killing Eve is making such a cultural killing thanks to the trio of Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, and Fiona Shaw. Oh plays Eve Polastri, an MI6 operative, with Comer as psychopath assassin Villanelle, and Shaw as MI6 Russian desk leader Carolyn Martens.

The Season 2 premiere -- which picked up just 30 seconds after the end of Season 1 -- was simulcast last night on both BBC America and AMC, giving the episode even more reach. At this point, the ratings aren't in, but they are probably healthy. No matter what, the show is coming back for Season 3.

Killing Eve only had eight episodes for Season 1, and it looks like that will be the case again for Season 2 and possibly for Season 3. Season 1 is a perfect binge-watching show -- and that's how I ended up loving it -- but I'm excited to watch Season 2's episodes week to week, and do the same for Season 3 whenever it premieres (maybe April 2020, if they stick with the current schedule).

Sandra Oh recently picked up Golden Globe, SAG and Critics' Choice Awards for her role as Eve. She's always asked about returning to Grey's Anatomy but recently said Killing Eve is her home now, and she'll continue playing Eve as long as they'll have her. Or perhaps as long as Villanelle doesn't fulfill the mission of the show's title.

Killing Eve is the BBC America show that took the country by storm and brought Sandra Oh back into the spotlight on the small screen. The actress made a name for herself on TV with her role as Cristina Yang for ten seasons of Grey's Anatomy, and some folks may still associate her more with that long-running series than with Killing Eve. One person who definitely doesn't is her Killing Eve costar Jodie Comer, who totally never saw Grey's Anatomy before meeting Oh. Here's how Comer puts it to Oh:

Sandra Oh was on hand when Jodie Comer explained to EW that she was glad she'd never watched Grey's Anatomy prior to meeting her Killing Eve costar, and she was surprised at the sentiment. Comer elaborated, saying that so many people loved it, and if she'd known it and loved it, she might have been overwhelmed at meeting Oh.

Without knowing Sandra Oh's former big show, Jodie Comer didn't have any preconceptions of what it would be like to work for her. And hey, no worries that she'd try to treat Eve as Cristina Yang! Eve and Cristina certainly aren't two of a kind, even if they are both played by Sandra Oh.

In the same interview, Sandra Oh reiterated her determination not to return to Grey's Anatomy despite a fanbase that would still love to see her back in the mix. Oh wants to focus on the "new love" in her life, and hang out with Jodie Comer. Grey's Anatomy has continued well enough without her, and it's currently in a new era, so hopefully fans can resign themselves to Cristina not dropping by. Why not tune in to Killing Eve?

The second season of the show that was such a hit that Netflix hyped it even though it doesn't release on Netflix will hit the airwaves soon, on BBC America and AMC. The Season 2 trailer is just as hilariously effed up as Season 1 fans could have hoped, and the footage bodes well for new episodes delivering the same quality as the first batch did.

Her role on Killing Eve allowed Sandra Oh to hit an Emmys milestone as the first Asian woman to score a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. She didn't win, with the trophy going to Claire Foy for The Crown (in her final season in the role of Queen Elizabeth II), but Killing Eve fans can undoubtedly agree that she deserved the nomination. Maybe the 2019 Emmys will see her take home a trophy!

Killing Eve Season 2 premieres Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET on BBC America and AMC. There are still plenty of other shows premiering in the not-too-distant future, if you need a break from all the craziness that is the battle between Eve and Villanelle.

It has been five years since Cristina Yang danced it out with Meredith Grey for the last time on Grey's Anatomy. Sandra Oh left at the end of Season 10 in 2014, but since Cristina wasn't killed off -- she just went to Zurich -- Oh is asked about returning to the ABC show all the time. All the time. Now that Oh is promoting the return of her award-winning new drama Killing Eve, she's being asked about Grey's once again.

If Grey's Anatomy asked you to come back as a cameo, would you do it? Here's Sandra Oh's blunt response to Extra TV:

She was very quick and decisive with that "no" to Extra. Then again, not even a year ago, Sandra Oh was also asked about returning to Grey's Anatomy, and she told TVLine:

But tomorrow it could be maybe -- or at least "maybe for the series finale"? That's what I'm hoping, anyway, and I'm pretty sure Shonda Rhimes and/or Ellen Pompeo would be able to convince Sandra Oh to at least cameo for the very last episode of the series.

That could be years from now, maybe even after Killing Eve goes off the air, depending on how long that amazing show lasts. Every time the Grey's Anatomy Powers That Be think the show may be winding down, it finds new life and viewers through Netflix -- and those viewers keep watching the new episodes to keep ratings high. That's how Grey's Anatomy recently passed ER as the longest-running primetime medical drama in history.

Grey's Anatomy is currently airing Season 15, so we've had five seasons without Meredith Grey's Person. Some fans thought Grey's would end after Patrick Dempsey left as Derek. Instead, the show is still going strong and just had one of its most powerful episodes last week with Jo's birth mother.

Speaking of Meredith, though, Ellen Pompeo recently said she'd selfishly love to see Sandra Oh back on Grey's Anatomy, but she loves Killing Eve so much that she'd rather see Oh shine in the lead role on that show than return to the fold with Grey's.

Sandra Oh still keeps in touch with her Grey's Anatomy family off-screen, and recently reunited with Kevin McKidd (Owen) at the Golden Globes, where she won Best Actress in a Television Series for playing MI5 officer Eve Polastri in Killing Eve. Oh, and she also co-hosted the Globes. And she just hosted Saturday Night Live. She's killing it right now. As much as we love Cristina, Dr. Yang has to be the furthest thing from Sandra Oh's mind right now.

Killing Eve is definitely worth catching up on, especially if you're a fan of Sandra Oh. The Season 2 premiere airs this Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET on both AMC and BBC America. Meanwhile, Grey's Anatomy Season 15 continues Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC ... without Sandra Oh. (For now. And maybe forever.)

Whenever Grey's Anatomy ends, whether it goes on for one more year or another fifteen, one of the first characters fans will bring up as they look back on the show is Cristina Yang. The emotionally distant yet fiercely loyal surgeon was arguably the second or third most important piece of the show for the first ten seasons, and in some ways, the show has never been able to recreate the emotional center her relationship with Meredith Grey created. As such, you'd probably think lead Ellen Pompeo would be clamoring for her former co-star Sandra Oh to return, but it's a bit more complicated than that.

The above quote came as part of an interview with TV Line, and it's interesting for a few reasons. First, it kinda seems like Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh have a similar relationship dynamic to Meredith and Cristina (as opposed to her relationship with Patrick Dempsey). The two were always communicating in a blunt, extremely direct fashion and oftentimes doing so with complicated and sometimes even contradictory emotions. Second, it's probably a sign that Pompeo is comfortable with where the show is now and also aware that you can never really recreate the magic (and that Killing Eve is awesome). That doesn't mean you can't incorporate characters back into a show or trot people out for a finale, but the specific spark of a prior season can never come back. It needs to evolve or change in some way or it gets boring.

Speaking of finales, Grey's Anatomy fans will always keep their fingers crossed Cristina finds a way to at least return for the finale. Over the years, Sandra Oh has talked out of both sides of her mouth and been open about her conflicted feelings as to whether or not she should return, and it's easy to see why. Steve Carell was famously hesitant to return for the finale of The Office because he didn't want to change the memory fans had of Michael Scott, and while he returned in the end, he did so using as little words and screentime as possible.

Over the past several years, Grey's Anatomy has acquired a reputation for being a bit theatrical and almost soap opera-ish at times. Some of that is earned. Some of that is not. But I'm not sure I've ever met anyone who has watched the first three or four seasons of the show and didn't thoroughly enjoy themselves. For a short period, credible arguments could be made that it was one of the best shows on television, and whether she ever returns or not, Sandra Oh was a huge part of that magic.

It has been four years since Kevin McKidd and Sandra Oh shared the screen on Grey's Anatomy as Owen Hunt and Cristina Yang. Thankfully, the Golden Globes gave the former co-stars the chance to reunite. McKidd opened up about his reunion with Oh, saying:

The former Grey's Anatomy co-stars' reunion sounds pretty epic, and it could not have happened under better circumstances. Oh won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Television Series for her highly acclaimed performance in Killing Eve.

She previously earned a Golden Globe for her work on Grey's Anatomy in 2016. Sandra Oh's Killing Eve win was her first in the lead category, having previously won in supporting. Suffice it to say, there was a lot for Oh and Kevin McKidd to celebrate and hug over.

Given that Sandra Oh also co-hosted the Golden Globes, it is impressive that she and Kevin McKidd found time to reunite. Where there is a will, there is a way! There were a lot of reasons for the co-stars to will their reunion into existence. McKidd talked about his gratitude for their strong relationship, saying:

Based on how Kevin McKidd, emphasized the "hate" each other part, it makes a bond like his and Sandra Oh's all the more special. The two maintained a strong working relationship and those sentiments have not wavered following Oh's Grey's Anatomy exit. That is impressive!

Kevin McKidd and Sandra Oh built their bond while sharing the screen on Grey's Anatomy for many years. McKidd joined the cast in Season 5 and Oh left the show at the end of Season 10. For many of the five seasons they co-starred on the medical drama, Cristina and Owen were in a front-burner romantic relationship. The characters got married before eventually divorcing.

Sharing so much time together on Grey's Anatomy and in so many intense storylines is a make-or-break-it environment for co-stars. Kevin McKidd talked about how some of the difficult times they had individually, off-screen, led them to rely on each other. They are very fortunate to have forged such a robust relationship.

Whether Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd will ever share the screen on Grey's Anatomy again is unclear. One of the recent times she was asked about a potential return to the show, Oh indicated she would not want to come back. Minds have been known to change though.

Who knows? If and when Grey's Anatomy eventually comes to an end, Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd may get a chance to co-star again.

Ultimately, Cristina and Owen's romantic relationship did not work out. Thankfully, the beautiful bond between their portrayers has continued.

Last night's Golden Globes ceremony was full of memorable moments, but one of the best came at the very start of the evening. Co-host Sandra Oh was praising the diversity of the evening nominees, especially the Best Picture nomination of Crazy Rich Asians. She then made a joke about Hollywood's tendency to cast white actresses in supposedly Asian roles, which resulted in an on the spot apology from one of those actresses. Check out the clip below.

Sandra Oh picks out Ghost in the Shell and Aloha to be the target of her joke. The former was a film based on a Japanese manga and anime that starred Scarlett Johansson, while the latter starred Emma Stone in the role of a woman who was supposed to be one-quarter Chinese and one-quarter native Hawaiian descent. After the laughter dies down, you can hear Stone herself, who was nominated last night for a Golden Globe for her role in The Favourite, shout out "I'm sorry."

The best part might actually be that Sandra Oh clearly hears Stone and visibly reacts to the response. That joke clearly landed just the way she wanted it to. As one would expect, social media was all over the exchange. Sandra Oh's calling out of these casting decisions was funny enough on its own, but Emma Stone publicly apologizing was the icing on the cake.

Aloha is a movie that, if you remember it at all, that's likely because of the controversy that Emma Stone's casting caused when it was announced. The movie itself didn't make much of an impact, whether or not the controversy itself was part of the reason for that is hard to tell. However, Emma Stone clearly now admits that her taking the role was a mistake. Stone is getting points for both admitting fault and being funny at the same time, while Sandra Oh is just getting universal love for standing on the Golden Globes stage and bringing attention to the problem.

On the plus side, the success of Crazy Rich Asians, both at the box office and as a potential award winner may go a long way to helping to make sure that these sorts of bizarre casting decisions don't happen again. At the end of the day, that's what many people want the focus here to be on, as some on social media are afraid the message is being lost on the laugh line.

The 2019 Golden Globes featured quite a few fun, funny and unexpected moments that gave TV viewers a chance to chuckle in between all the award recipients' speeches. Hosts Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh got to voice most of those, but they weren't alone in delivering the goods, at least when there was still time to bring them out.

Below, we've rounded up some of the best jokes of the night, from the limited harsh barbs to the also limited goofy stunts. After all, it wouldn't be a Golden Globes ceremony without goofy stunts! Let's kick things off with something from that surprisingly calm and music-free intro.

That Aloha Joke: Ahead of delivering her magnificent mini-speech to the crowd about the past year of Hollywood diversity, Sandra Oh dropped a quick whopper of a joke that spoke to past years where things were not so positive for other cultures.

Sandra Oh followed that up by joking about Asian mothers having the same universally "meh" reaction to the film earning over $200 million. Parents are always the hardest people to impress, as well as critics.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Hear Her Roar: To present the award for Lead Actress in a Limited Series, a white-clad Jamie Lee Curtis took the stage with Ben Stiller. After he brought up that he'd directed the Showtime miniseries Escape from Dannemora -- whose Patricia Arquette took home the award -- Curtis set up an amusing and off-kilter moment that spoke to the power that actors (especially women) still have over their bosses.

That empowering joke actually came after this next line, but it spoke to the same general subject matter.

The Les Moonves Line: Andy Samberg made one of the only scandal-tethered jokes of the night when bringing out three of TV's highest-paid stars, in reference to CBS' former CEO.

Jim Parsons and his Big Bang Theory co-stars did not react to the mostly subdued line.

Flu Shots For All: Rather than ordering the room a bunch of pizza to chow down on, Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh brought in something that the audience really needed: flu shots! A bunch of people (supposedly fully registered folks in the medical field) went around and delivered faux shots to celebs. No, it wasn't the most clever or most intelligent bit, but it poked fun at mindless Golden Globes stunts of the past in an expectedly silly way.

First-Time Attendee Tyler Perry: Coming out to introduce the movie nominees for Best Actor in a Drama, Tyler Perry remarked on this being the first time he was among his fellow entertainers for the Golden Globes. He took that opportunity to speak to a point we've already talked about in this very story.

Call off the investigators, people! We've got proof at last!

Christian Bale's Special Thanks: When giving his Best Actor acceptance speech, Vice star Christian Bale offered up a unique slice of graciousness for the man he portrayed, former Vice President Dick Cheney.

That was presented without commentary. Moving on!

Steve Carell's Bleeped Moment: The Office's Steve Carell came out in the honored position to present the iconic Carol Burnett with the inaugural award named after her. While lauding Burnett for being such a classy and genial person, Carell uttered a joke that didn't make it past the censors.

Other comedy points to go Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh for using words like "joker" and "as good as it gets" when bringing Carell out, making it look like Jack Nicholson was coming out.

That Chris Pine "Burn": When coming back from a commercial break, Andy Samberg took a ridiculous shot at Outlaw King and I Am the Night star Chris Pine.

To Samberg's credit, Chris Pine's face was totally busted. (It wasn't.)

Harrison Ford Follow-Up: After Jeff Bridges gave his outstanding and tangent-journeying speech for winning the C.C. DeMille Award, Harrison Ford was announced to present the nominees for Best Director. With the same kind of deadpan delivery that earned him a career in movies, Ford said:

He was followed by Roma filmmaker and category winner Alfonso Cuarón, who then joked about having to be the second person to follow Jeff Bridges after Harrison Ford. Gotta love a good callback.

Dick Van Dyke's Still Got It: Taking the stage with Mary Poppins Returns star Emily Blunt, Dick Van Dyke gave a one-liner that was right in line with his comedic stylings, proving he's still somewhere in the vicinity of the top of the comedy game.

Many viewers may have laughed twice as hard at that line than other viewers. Dick Van Dyke's wild-eyed reaction to Carol Burnett's speech earlier in the evening went viral on social media, with many taking shots at the esteemed TV and film star for looking a tad too bewildered.

The 2019 Golden Globes are now over and done with, so now we can look forward to whatever is coming next year. (There will be alcohol involved then as well.) While waiting, don't forget that there are lots of big shows coming to midseason TV in 2019.

The Golden Globes kicked off with the expected light-hearted antics expected from awards shows, but once the intro's jabs and zingers were out of the way, co-host Sandra Oh took a moment to get real. Oh addressed the audience ahead of any awards getting handed out, and she shared the real reason why she agreed to be on the Globes' stage with Andy Samberg to host the ceremony.

Sandra Oh's full meaning may not have been explicitly laid out, but the audience and viewers likely knew the Golden Globes co-host was referring to this unique period of diversity that Hollywood is celebrating right now. The Killing Eve star wanted to look out and see the crowd, which was composed of multi-cultural talents of all flavors. Oh's words were met with applause and acknowledgement from the crowd, who seemed to appreciate her statement greatly.

It's fitting that such a statement would come from an actress like Sandra Oh, who just last year set an Emmy milestone relevant to her Globes-centered point. As the first Asian woman to have ever been nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, Oh is certainly someone who can say she's experienced diversity changes in Hollywood and beyond firsthand, as could many others sitting in the audience.

For all her talk of fear of hosting on stage, Sandra Oh went through the motions of hosting rather fearlessly. Of course, few expected the former Grey's Anatomy and current Killing Eve actress to be anything less than flawless, except maybe her mother.

Now joining in the sea of congratulations for her history-making accomplishment is Oh's former Grey's Anatomy co-star Ellen Pompeo. In a tender tweet, Pompeo explained why she was a day late in sharing her social media enthusiasm over Oh's achievement while sharing a sweet message congratulating her long-time former co-star. The pair's camaraderie is so nice, and it is always beautiful to see someone supporting another. Both actresses found success as original cast members on the medical drama.
