Though he’s more well-known for his comedy projects, and is currently starring in one of the most-watched comedies on the 2026 TV schedule — Shifting Gears — Seann William Scott will soon lend his talents (at least temporarily) to the upcoming horror movie Dolly. This latest effort from filmmaker Rod Blackhurst looks like it could totally serve as an immersion therapy for anyone with pediophobia, otherwise known as the fear of dolls, and I’m pretty sure I mean that as a compliment.

Dolly follows Chase (Scott) and Macy (portrayed by Starry Eyes and John Dies at the End vet Fabianne Therese) on what would seemingly be a nice trip away from the hustle and bustle of society, only to end up in the crosshairs of a killer. Or maybe it’s the 1:6-scale cross stitches of a killer. Whichever way it goes, check out the gnarly full trailer below, but only if you have zero issues with seeing dozens of filthy dolls in un-doll-like places.

Sooo, as one might be able to infer from watching the above trailer, Seann William Scott's Chase does not look like he'll be surviving until the final credits. He might not even make it to the actual title screen, depending on how quick to offing his victims the mysterious masked killer is. They don't appear to be the social type, even if building up a relationship IS the whole point, but I'll still blindly hold out the hope that Chase makes a surprise third-act return, possibly without one or any limbs.

Fabianne Therese looks perfectly game to hold down the fort, though, by which I mean Macy looks absolutely horrified with every single thing she's seeing, much of which is doll-related. The hulking monster who abducts her is seeking an offspring of their own, but I'm going on a limb to say that bottle is NOT full of nutrients.

Taking on the role of the dangerous and dubious Dolly is pro wrestler Max the Impaler, who has crushed the competition for promotions such as H20 Wrestling, Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling, and the NWA. It's not hard to see why they were a hauntingly solid choice for this performance. Sure, the mask is creepy, but Dolly's whole demeanor is far more than just one shade of gross.

It's obviously too early to gauge whether this movie will have a lasting legacy or not in the annals of scary doll movies, but Spirit Halloween should probably set up some licensing before October gets here. We obviously need both the full version and the half-broken version.

Dolly's cast also includes My Name Is Earl and Mallrats fave Ethan Suplee, who numbered among Rod Blackhurt's star-studded 2023 crime thriller Blood for Dust, as well as another one of that film's co-stars in Russ Tiller.

Oh, and it also co-stars a giant ring of dolls around a mass grave-looking hole in the ground. DID I MENTION THE GIANT RING OF DOLLS YET? BECAUSE LOOK AT IT!

I have to stop thinking about dolls for a little while now. Otherwise, Jenny Pen might have something to say about it, and no one should upset Jenny Pen. (From 2025's The Rule of Jenny Pen, although I guess that was more of a puppet than a doll.)

Hopefully the only 2026 movie release that features such anything that fits the classification of "ring of dolls," Dolly will hit theaters on March 6, 2026.

The cast of Shifting Gears has been bringing the laughs for the show's second season during the 2025 TV schedule, and that includes Seann William Scott. The actor stars in the Tim Allen and Kat Dennings-led sitcom as Gabriel, the childhood best friend and crush of Dennings’ Riley. Scott is no stranger to the comedy world, as he is known for his breakout role as Steve Stifler in the American Pie film series, but I just learned that Gears actually marks a big comedy milestone for him.

The first American Pie film was released in 1999, so Scott has been showing off his comedic chops for a while and has done a number of funny films since then. So, when he was announced to be starring in Shifting Gears, it seemed like a no-brainer. (And he just got a big raise.) Interestingly, when Scott talked with TV Insider about the second season of the ABC show recently, he actually admitted to it being his first sitcom.

Considering how many comedy films he’s done aside from American Pie and even starring in Fox’s mockumentary sitcom, Welcome to Flatch, it’s surprising that Shifting Gears is Scott's first true sitcom. However, now that I know that information, it makes his role on the show all the more special in hindsight. And it’s not like he doesn’t have some help, as Allen and Dennings have both successfully dabbled in the sitcom space before.

Seann William Scott revealed that a lot of what he’s been doing on the show and the process is new to him, but it seems to be like second nature to him, even if he is still trying to learn the ropes. Of course, it can be assumed he’s learned a lot from his comedy film career, including the American Pie series, but doing a sitcom is different.

Though I can’t think of a better first sitcom than Shifting Gears, acting alongside some sitcom veterans. Not to mention that the show has been showcasing some Home Improvement reunions and Last Man Standing alums, which make it even better.

Meanwhile, Shifting Gears has been bringing on a handful of comedic actors and even a TikTok comedian. Hopefully, there will be a lot more to look forward to when the series returns on December 3, including plenty more laughs. Shifting Gears may not be American Pie, but it seems like Scott is still making the most of his time on screen.

Whether or not Seann WIlliam Scott will continue to do sitcoms once he’s done with Shifting Gears is obviously unknown but, hopefully. he'll stick with multi-cam shows moving forward. In the meantime, though the Tim Allen-fronted show is still doing well on ABC, and it would be shocking if the network didn’t hand out a Season 3 renewal soon. For now, fans can watch all episodes with a Hulu subscription before new episodes return on Wednesday, December 3 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Seann William Scott's Big Raise For Season 2

While Scott is better known for his film credits, Shifting Gears isn't his first network TV show in recent years. His luck seems to have shifted, after Fox's Lethal Weapon was cancelled after his first season as co-lead and Welcome to Flatch didn't generate much buzz in its two short seasons on Fox. I'd certainly say that Shifting Gears is his highest-profile gig on network TV, and he's going to be well paid for it in Season 2.

According to In Touch after accessing court documents listing Seann William Scott's expenses, the American Pie cast alum was paid $900,00 for the ten-episode first season of Shifting Gears. That equals out to $90,000 per episode, which certainly isn't a small salary. He'll be getting much for more Season 2, however. His episodic fee for the season that premieres in October has reportedly been bumped all the way up to $225,000 before commissions.

If Season 2 runs for ten episodes like Season 1, that amounts to $2.25 million. Fans can expect the new season to start with a trio of Home Improvement reunions for Tim Allen, with Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning all set to appear in the premiere.

How Seann William Scott Spends His Income

Seann William Scott has been immersed in an ongoing court battle with his ex-wife for months. He and his then-wife, Olivia Korenberg, split in 2024 after four years of marriage, with an eventual joint custody deal. The complications arose earlier this year when Korenberg claimed (via Us Weekly) that that her ex-husband indicated that she could live in one of his properties long-term and even make renovations, while Scott claimed that the arrangement was intended to last for one year.

With the court battle evidently ongoing, Scott filed documents to report his income and net worth in late August. Us Weekly shares that, according to Scott's filing, he listed himself as an actor who began work in the industry back in 2000. (He does have some earlier credits listed on IMDb, including American Pie in 1999.)

While he reportedly earned a total of $54,699 in July 2025, his usual total in salary or wages per month is $110,00 including $45,000 on royalties and $31,00 on dividends/interest payments. Monthly expenses include property taxes to the tune of $15,000; $5,000 for repairs; $2,500 for groceries; $2,000 for utilities; $500 for his cell phone; $1,500 for clothes, $1,500 for entertainment; and $11,000 on other bills for $59,039. He also reportedly agreed to increase his child support payments, although a sum was not disclosed.

As for his net worth, court documents indicate that he has $158,00 in checking/savings accounts and cash; $12,285,322 in stocks and bonds; and $18,781,328 in property, which includes three homes in L.A., a Mini Cooper worth $30,00, a Honda Passport netting $55,000, jewelry worth $650, furniture worth $171,000, and artwork worth $93,000.

Over the course of the divorce, Scott paid his legal team around $500,000, and claimed his ex-wife earned about $5,500 per month. He asserts that his decision to sell the house that she had been living in was not retaliatory or connected to her new relationship, but rather on the advice of financial advisors. Attempts to settle on Scott's part did not result in a deal, and a judge has not yet ruled on the matter.

So, whatever the future holds for Seann William Scott's personal life, he can count on a big bump in pay for Season 2 of Shifting Gears. The comedy returns to ABC on Wednesday, October 1 at 8 p.m. ET, just ahead of the Season 5 premiere of Abbott Elementary.

One of the biggest surprises of the year so far, at least in terms of the 2025 TV schedule, was the highly enviable viewership numbers earned by Tim Allen and Kat Dennings’ latest network sitcom Shifting Gears. The quick success sparked ABC to order up a Season 2 renewal fairly quickly, despite some rumors indicating otherwise, and it looks like co-star Seann William Scott locked up a sizable salary increase, which was unexpectedly unveiled through a divorce-related court filing.

Though everything related to his small-screen gig may be on the up and up, Scott is currently still enmeshed in settling some post-divorce divorce details with ex Olivia Korenberg. Though their split was officially finalized in May 2024 following the February 2024 filing, Korenberg asked the court in May 2025 to amend the child custody and support agreement, claiming that he was attempting to kick her and their daughter out of a home he allegedly agreed to let them live in.

As a counter to her claims, according to InTouch, Seann William Scott filed his own motion to remove certain allegations made by Korenberg that were seen as hearsay, and it’s through this filing made on May 28 that the actor’s boost in Shifting Gears pay was revealed.

How Much Seann William Scott's Season 2 Pay Raise Amounts To For Shifting Gears

In February 2025, Seann William Scott told the court that his work throughout Season 1 of Shifting Gears brought in $900,000, which averages out to right around $90,000 for the ten episodes produced. But the actor updated his monthly income details and his expenses, which pointed to the fact that his pay will be more than doubled going into Season 2.

Without commissions involved, Scott is set to make around $250,000 per episode for Season 2. So if ABC keeps the sophomore season at ten episodes, Scott will be making a cool $2.5 million, which is quite a hefty increase over $900,000. (Not that I'd balk at the lesser payday, but that's beside the point.) And if ABC decides to go with a full season of 18-23 episodes, the Lethal Weapon vet will have even more to celebrate.

Not bad for someone whose breakout role as American Pie's Stiffler only earned him a meager $8,000, amirite?

One key request made in the latest filing involves Olivia Korenberg's claim that Scott is attempting to kick them out of his Malibu property that she and their daughter have been staying in and updating since April 2024, with the understanding being that they would be living there for years. She claims that in November 2024, she told Scott about her new boyfriend and mentioned introducing him to the daughter, and less than a month later, Korenberg claims Scott reversed course and voiced his plans to sell the house. She claims he said they'd need to be out of the house by June 30, and that she and her daughter have no other housing options to turn to.

Olivia Korenberg is also requesting the court to make it so that Scott increases his child support payments to more than the current $6,000/month he's currently paying. As well, she's also seeking an additional $75,000 to pay for her legal fees, with another $50,000 to handle accounting fees.

Following a failed attempt at mediation on May 27, a hearing has been scheduled for June 2025.

In his own paperwork amendment, Sean William Scott indicated that filming for Season 2 of Shifting Gears will begin in August 2025, so hopefully we'll have answers soon for what's going down with Matt and Jenna Elfman's Eve after that surprising Season 1 finale.

On its expertly polished and waxed surface, Shifting Gears may not appear to be more than your average good-vibes network TV sitcom, but there’s a more emotional undercurrent for both the characters’ storylines and for some of the characters themselves. Tim Allen has spoken about portraying a widower for the first time while also tapping into certain character elements he hadn’t before. But I wonder if he expected to have a fatherly impact on co-star Seann William Scott.

The comedic actor, whose work spans from American Pie to the Ice Age universe, portrays Gabriel, one of Matt’s loyal employees helping restore all the vintage cars in the shop (all of which are from Tim Allen’s personal collection). It’s been nearly 20 years since Scott lost his father William “Scotty” Scout, who passed away in January 2007 after having been diagnosed with bone cancer in one leg that eventually spread to the rest of his body. But it sounds like his on-set connection with Allen is a reminder of times past.

Talking with People about continuing to expand his TV career alongside one of the most popular sitcom stars of all time, Seann William Scott addressed the fatherly vibes he gets from the Santa Clause star, saying:

I can totally understand where he's coming from, since Tim Allen has been both a TV dad and a real dad for so many years that it'd probably be hard for the actor to NOT give off a parental aura.

Scott addressed the fact that he wasn't 100% sure what to expect when he first crossed paths with Tim Allen, and was pleased to find that the TV vet wasn't as stuffy and self-consumed as is the case at times with other veteran actors. According to the Lethal Weapon vet:

Not that he's only a guy's guy. Let's not forget that Kat Dennings has spoken lovingly about working with Tim Allen for the first time on this show, and how well they got along while filming. So he seems to just get along quite well with younger generations.

While promoting the first season, Allen reflected on his relationship with former Home Improvement co-star Jonathan Taylor Thomas (whom he reunited with on Last Man Standing), and how he still feels as if the younger actor is a son to him. Will he end up saying the same thing about Seann William Scott one day?

There’s probably a joke to make here about Tim Allen getting with Stiffler’s mom, but I'll save that for later.

Having already concluded its run after first hitting the 2025 TV schedule in January, the half-hour comedy is still awaiting word about a potential Season 2 from ABC. But in the meantime, it can only help if fans continue to stream the first season with a Hulu subscription.

It’s safe to say that all of these actors have done okay for themselves over the years after making relatively small salaries throughout their career. But it’s still wild to think about Robert Downey Jr. only making half-a-million to play Tony Stark. What a steal.

Some of the greatest moments in the nearly 50-year history of Saturday Night Live involve cast members struggling (and ultimately failing) to contain their laughter, and they are not the only ones. Some of the greatest SNL hosts the show has ever had are not impervious to breaking character either. As you can see from the list below, infectious examples of major celebrities who caught a case of the giggles while on the air at Studio 8H are not in short supply.  

Adele (Africa Tourism)

Adele was a great SNL host despite a lack of acting experience, but even her famously strong lungs couldn’t hold back laughter in her Season 46 episode. It’s hard to decipher if it's Kate McKinnon’s accent or just the way she says “tribesman” that causes the singer to break in the faux African tourist ad, but once she does, never quite stops.

Ben Affleck (Iranian Film)

Out of many examples of Ben Affleck breaking on SNL, we chose the Season 38 sketch framed as an HBO First Look at an Iranian-produced dramatization of the making of his Best Picture Oscar winner, Argo, called Bengo F*ck Yourself. He first snickers about two minutes in at Fred Armisen as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad portraying Affleck and a moment later when explaining he took the part of a sound man “to be in a movie worse than Gigli.”

Christina Applegate (Matt Foley: Van Down By The River)

Everyone in the ‘90s-era SNL classic — the first appearance of the late Chris Farley as motivational speaker Matt Foley — could barely keep their composure, especially after the late comedy icon accidentally destroys a coffee table. Even before then, you can see Christina Applegate struggling to hide her laughter behind her hair.

Drew Barrymore (The Love-ahs With Barbara And Dave)

The laughter was as contagious as the unbridled passion of Will Ferrell and Rachel Dratch’s recurring characters in this Season 27 edition of “The Love-ahs” set in a hot tub after notorious breaker Jimmy Fallon caused a chain reaction. Nearly three minutes in, host Drew Barrymore (as The Love-ahs’ friend, Barbara) begins her struggle to keep from giggling that lasts the rest of the sketch.

Candice Bergen (Extremely Stupid)

In SNL’s second season, Candice Bergen accidentally called Gilda Radner’s dim-witted character, Lisa, by her own character’s name, Fern, during a faux PSA sketch. All the future Five-Timer’s Club member could do is laugh as Radner then turned her planned speech about stupid people’s rights into a brilliant roast of her co-star.

Emily Blunt (Escorts)

In this 2017 bit, first-time host Emily Blunt stars alongside Leslie Jones as a pair of sex workers explaining their quirky guidelines to their clients, which involves roleplaying as a clumsy maid character she created. Twice, the British A Quiet Place star cracks up when she dons a more cartoonish British accent to say her character’s catchphrase, “Oopsy-doopsy, I muffed it up again!”

Dave Chappelle (Uncle Ben)

It’s no secret Dave Chappelle likes to shake things up when he hosts SNL, like in this sketch commenting on the recent discontinuation of food brands Uncle Ben’s and Aunt Jemima in 2020. The comedian first cracks up when debuting his deep Dennis Haysbert impersonation and again when he breaks the fourth wall with a clearly unscripted comment that makes Pete Davidson spit out his Count Chocula fangs.

Daniel Craig (Deep Quote Game Night)

It must be hard not to break when the typically well-composed Kate McKinnon gets the giggles, which seems to be what happened to Daniel Craig about 90 seconds into the Season 45 sketch "Deep Quote Game Night." Honestly, we can’t imagine this bit about a movie quote guessing game that turns awkward would have been as memorable had the former James Bond actor kept a straight face.

Larry David (New Wife)

Larry David looks so unrecognizable in this Season 43 sketch as a boisterous business man talking up his new spouse (Cecily Strong) to his coworkers, it is amazing the SNL players involved held it together so well. The Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm star causes himself to lose it completely, however, about three and half minutes into the "New Wife" sketch by the way he tells Beck Bennett’s character to “GET OUT!”

Billie Eilish (Hotel Ad)

The faux ad for a shockingly shady hotel is just one reason we’d love to see Billie Eilish return to SNL as both host and musical guest again. What makes this Season 47 bit so memorable (save a cameo from her brother and bandmate, Finneas) is the Oscar-winning singer’s frequent bouts of the giggles throughout.

Will Ferrell (Cast List)

Even a seasoned SNL veteran like Will Ferrell had to cover his mouth to hide his laughter in this sketch that was cut for time when he returned as host in Season 45. Of course, no one can contain themselves after he, as an over-serious high school theatre instructor, gets a little too close to Aidy Bryant when forcing the students to back away. 

Jamie Foxx (Maine Justice With Jamie Foxx)

Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx handles himself quite well as the bailiff in the Season 38 edition of “Maine Justice,” until it has a minute to go. All it takes is Jason Sudeikis’ uproarious judge saying the phrase “ass fire” to force the Django Unchained star to turn his head to hide his laughter, but Sudeikis kicks it up a notch by spontaneously kissing the actor’s arm.

Ryan Gosling (Close Encounter)

One of the most famous SNL breaks as of late is also our pick for Kate McKinnon’s best sketch ever: Season 41’s original version of “Close Encounter.” She has her future fellow Barbie cast member, Ryan Gosling, helplessly in stitches — just one of the host’s many breaks that night, actually — by the hilariously dry description of her otherwise horrifying alien abduction experience.

Tiffany Haddish (Whiskers R We With Tiffany Haddish)

You know comedy gold is afoot when Studio 8H brings in live animals, like in this edition of “Whiskers R We” from Season 43 that sees host Tiffany Haddish — who once auditioned for SNL — break Kate McKinnon and herself just seconds in with an unscripted, NSFW line prompted by a cat’s escape attempt. They both break again later on when a hairless feline tries to leap from McKinnon’s arms, visibly startling the future Haunted Mansion cast member.

David Harbour (Sauce) 

This Season 45 sketch starring Kate McKinnon as a frisky, elderly Italian immigrant and host David Harbour as his wife is far less messy than other sketches involving food have been. However, the Stranger Things cast member can’t help but smirk when McKinnon brings a finger dripping in sauce to his lips and inserts it right in his mouth. His laughter continues as they being to make out.

Sean Hayes (Jeffrey’s With Sean Hayes)

Many SNL hosts have fallen prey to the infectious shared laughter of notorious breakers, Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz, such as Sean Hayes in this early 2000s favorite set at elitist clothing store, Jeffrey’s. Seeing Will Ferrell ride in on a scooter about four minutes in and use an impossibly tiny cell phone really sends the Will & Grace cast member over the edge.

Kevin Hart (Barnes And Noble Firing)

It’s no wonder Tim Robinson got his own Netflix sketch series, I Think You Should Leave, with how effortlessly he cracks up Kevin Hart at the end of the Barnes and Noble-set sketch from Season 38. Robinson’s performance as the “old, useless” Carl makes it impossible for the comedian to get through his lines.

Jonah Hill (Benihana) 

The most recent time Jonah Hill played his own recurring SNL character, precocious six-year-old Adam Grossman, in Season 44 might be the best because it saw him break the most. Neither the Academy Award nominee nor Leslie Jones as his nanny can keep it together every time he taunts her by singing reggae hits. 

Janet Jackson (Corksoakers)

Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz are surprisingly stone-cold for most of the 2004 sketch as Italian winery owners explaining to tourists how they “soak corks.” However, host and musical guest Janet Jackson cracks up multiple times when she accidentally begins to say the actual suggestive phrase that “cork soaking” alludes to.

Keegan-Michael Key (The Muppet Show)

For anyone who ever got sick of Statler and Waldorf’s heckling, the Season 46 favorite starring Kenan Thompson and host Keegan-Michael Key as The Muppet Show venue security is for you. What makes it a classic is when the Key & Peele star beginning to chuckle after his aggressive assault on Statler causes record-breaking SNL veteran Thompson to break.

Adam Levine (Catfish)

This parody of Catfish likes to poke fun at how often Nev Shulman (host Adam Levine) mentions his name on the MTV reality series. About half-way through the sketch, the Maroon 5 frontman and former The Voice coach appears to break at his most animated utterance of the name, but bounces back pretty quickly by making it feel like a character trait.

Lindsay Lohan (Debbie Downer: Disney World) 

When people think of Rachel Dratch as Debbie Downer, they tend to think of this 2004 favorite set at a Disney World pancake restaurant that no one could keep a straight face during the sketch. First-time host Lindsay Lohan later revealed to Vogue that she was so overwhelmed by laughter, she decided to just walk off set as soon as she got the chance.

Julianna Margulies (Family Dinner)

This revolting 2000 sketch stars host Julianna Margulies as woman learning her boyfriend’s (Chris Parnell) dysfunctional salivary glands and weak teeth force his parents to feed him like a baby bird. By the end, the former ER cast member does the deed herself for the younger son (Chris Kattan) and can’t help but laugh the unspeakable act she just committed.

James McAvoy (New Orleans Vacation)

When James McAvoy hosted in Season 44, he experimented with almost as many voices as he used to play a man with DID in Split and Glass, but the one he used in this sketch was too much for him to handle. He can’t help but crack up nearly every time he puts on a thick, inauthentic Cajun accent to talk about he and his girlfriend’s recent trip to “N’awlins.”

Jason Momoa (Judge Barry)

When Jason Momoa makes a surprise cameo in a Season 45 sketch starring host Chance the Rapper as a courtroom judge of first impressions, he surprises himself with a hilarious flub. Both the Aquaman actor and the host can’t help but laugh when he calls himself a “paraplegic,” meaning to say “paralegal.”

Brittany Murphy (The Leather Man)

Season 28’s “The Leather Man” — which eventually goes off the rails courtesy of Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz — might actually be a prime example of the late Brittany Murphy’s exceptional talent. You can barely even tell when she breaks with the way she convincingly disguises her laughter as a quirk that fits perfectly in line with her character.

Pedro Pascal (Lisa From Temecula)

Just when you thought the internet could not love Pedro Pascal more, he earns its respect even more just by innocently succumbing to his own laughter during his Season 48 SNL episode. The most memorable instance came in this segment in when Ego Nwodim’s Lisa shakes the table with her aggressive steak cutting, giving the star of The Mandalorian and The Last of Us a case of the giggles that proves contagious.

Chris Pine (Star Trek Lost Episode)

Initially, it seems that the most memorable highlight of this Star Trek parody will be Chris Pine’s spot-on William Shatner impression, until he snickers at the awkward line delivery of the guy playing Sulu. Fun fact, according to the SNL wiki, that gentleman is production designer Akira Yoshimura, who has played Sulu in many other sketches poking fun at the sci-fi phenomenon.

Margot Robbie (Actress Round Table) 

It is no wonder why Margot Robbie would go on to star in two movies with Kate McKinnon from how the SNL star brings the laughter out of the Australian actor in the sketch from 2016. Robbie almost loses focus of her otherwise consistent Keira Knightley impression by how fictional Hollywood veteran Debette Goldry’s (McKinnon) shocking memories get the best of her.

Adam Sandler (Sandler Family Reunion) 

In a sketch where Adam Sandler is surrounded by people imitating characters from his best movies, it was Jimmy Fallon as his grandfather who finally caused the fellow SNL retiree to laugh. Apparently, as Fallon later recalled on The Tonight Show, his overlong bout of gibberish was a happy accident caused by misreading the cue cards.   

Seann William Scott (Short Shorts For The USA)

One of Will Ferrell’s all-time best sketches on SNL first aired in 2001 and sees him wear a half-shirt and a thong to work in the name of patriotism. Host Seann William Scott holds back the urge to laugh at the ridiculous and revealing ensemble from beginning to end.

Justin Timberlake (Celebrity Family Feud)

For his second time hosting, Jimmy Fallon impersonated Jim Parsons in a “Celebrity Family Feud” alongside musical guest Justin Timberlake as… Jimmy Fallon, with an incredibly enthusiastic imitation that the pop star can’t help but crack up at himself.  There is no clip of the Season 39 sketch on YouTube currently, but we recommend using a Peacock subscription to check out the whole episode.

There is sure to be more where these came from when SNL comes back for its 49th season on NBC.

Some box office norms have returned in full in the post-COVID era, with Avatar’s sequel, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fast X and more delivering the blockbuster vibes that audiences thrive on. But one sub-genre that’s been largely missing from the big screen is the R-rated comedy, which was a dependable part of the theatrical experience ‘90s and Aughts, thanks in part to films such as 1999’s sex-infused smash American Pie. Nearly 25 years after that film’s $235 million global success, and ten years after American Reunion similarly brought in over $234 million, the world isn’t exactly clamoring desperately for that particular brand of gross-hot comedy anymore. But star Seann William Scott let it slip that some conversations have started to see if and how the franchise should go forward.

Next for Scott is the upcoming action-thriller sequel The Wrath of Becky, which follows 2020’s cult hit Becky, perhaps most easily remembered as "the movie where Kevin James plays a neo-Nazi." When speaking with ComicBook.com about playing the villain in the darkly comedic flick, he reflected on the possibility for the East Great Falls gang to return in some way with a new American... project. And while this isn’t a promise of anything being carved into stone, Scott did speak to the idea that the gears are starting to spin behind the scenes, saying: 

Now, I can't lie and say I'm automatically hyper-excited about the concept of another sequel from this particular film series, at least not in the same way that I'd be jazzed up about certain others. American Reunion was probably better than it should have been, with due credit going to Cobra Kai co-creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg for writing and directing. But one would think there are only so many ways to keep bringing the original film’s ensemble cast together for pervalicious hilarity, which dulls my interest in seeing a similar formula repeated where everyone's having new babies at the same time, or their kids are going to high school, or whatever the thematic approach would be.

But I admittedly allowed my interests to expand a bit when Seann William Scott teased an idea being discussed for bringing Stifler back to audiences. In his words:

Scott followed that in saying he's wondered if there's a fun ending that could be crafted, presumably not just for Stifler but the entire group. Although the way he worded things, it sounds like the idea could potentially fall under the umbrella of American Pie's non-sequel spinoffs, including Band Camp and 2020's Girls' Rules, only focusing on Stifler and thus easily outshining those offshoots.

And while it's not exactly the most novel idea in the world, I would admittedly be beyond interested to see the American Pie franchise tackle Stifler living in a post-#MeToo society, and having him learn how to be a decent and accepting human being. Which probably wouldn't work out that way, because Hollywood, but I think that's the one character in the whole shebang who could legitimately anchor such an approach. 

O, to have Jennifer Coolidge return to play Stifler's mom to help her son get good at life. The actress has revealed in the past that the role had quite the positive effect on her sex life, so I'm not sure what the takeaway would be from this sequel idea, though I can't imagine it would hurt her sex life at all. 

Of course, Seann William Scott made sure to express that he has no idea if anything will actually come out of this idea and the discussions being had, so it's nothing for American Pie fanatics to get too excited about just yet. But if that kind of idea can spin a possible detractor like myself, then Stifler's return could very well bring R-rated comedies back to the top of the box office charts.

When it comes to some of the best coming of age films, one of the first ones that always comes to mind is American Pie. While it’s not as emotional as other movies in the same genre, such as the Hailee Steinfeld-led The Edge of Seventeen or The Perks of Being a Wallflower, this film series has cemented itself as one of the funniest coming of age movies out there - and that’s only continued with its subsequent sequels. 

With such a large ensemble, one might wonder where the American Pie cast is now after more than twenty years since its 1999 premiere. From Jason Biggs to Natasha Lyonne, this is what they’ve been up to - and what they’ve starred in.  

Jason Biggs (Jim)

Hands down one of the most known cast members of American Pie is the main man himself, Jason Biggs, who played Jim - you know, that character that goes hand-in-hand with apple pies everywhere. Biggs himself since his big role in American Pie has been quite active in both movies and TV. 

In regards to movies, he’s starred in several hilarious comedies, such as Saving Silverman, Boys and Girls, Over Her Dead Body, My Best Friend’s Girl and more, while also simultaneously appearing in other American Pie sequels. 

Television has been where Biggs has really shined. For a couple of seasons, Biggs was a part of the Orange is the New Black cast on Netflix, playing Larry Bloom. He’s also a part of the comedy, Outmatched, as part of the main cast, and has guest-starred on several shows, such as The Good Fight, Deadbeat and more. I’m sure it’ll only be a matter of time before he pops up on TV once again. 

Alyson Hannigan (Michelle)

Remember that one time at band camp? Michelle sure does in American Pie, played by Alyson Hannigan. Since her role in the teen comedy, Hannigan has made a name for herself in Hollywood. 

With movies, she reprised her role in several of the American Pie sequels, but other than that, she appeared in the Disney+ original movie, Flora & Ulysses, the comedies, Love, Wedding, Marriage and Date Movie, and more. 

Like Biggs, TV is where Hannigan has stood out the most. After American Pie, she went on to have two major main roles in very popular shows - continuing playing Willow Rosenberg as part of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast, and playing Lily Aldrin in How I Met Your Mother. Recently, she’s taken on roles such as the host of Penn & Teller: Fool Us, a main voice role in Fancy Nancy, and several guest appearances on TV shows. 

Seann William Scott (Steve Stifler)

Playing Steve Stifler in American Pie was Seann William Scott, and just like his co-stars, Scott has done a lot in both movies and TV. With movies, he’s appeared in several hilarious comedies such as Dude, Where’s My Car?, Mr. Woodcock, Road Trip and more, as well as stepping into other genres, such as the horror film, Final Destination, or the sports comedy, Goon and its sequel. 

Scott has also proven himself to be a talented voice actor as well, voicing Crash from the Ice Age film series for several of its movies. Scott also had the main role of Wesley Cole in the TV series, Lethal Weapon, and will play Father Joe in the Fox TV series, Welcome to Flatch.

Eugene Levy (Jim's Father)

While Levy's fame has only grown in recent years, it wasn’t long ago that one of his most hilarious roles was playing Mr. Levenstein in American Pie, otherwise known as Jim’s father. 

Since his appearance in the film, Levy has appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows. While he reprised his role for several American Pie sequels, he appeared in movies such as New York Minute, Curious George, Taking Woodstock, Goon, Finding Dory and more. He's also well known for his work (appearing in and co-writing) on numerous Christopher Guest movies (Best In Show, Waiting for Guffman, etc.). 

Arguably, Eugene Levy’s biggest work since his time in the American Pie series was co-creating the hit comedy, Schitt’s Creek, alongside his son, Dan Levy, and being a part of the Schitt’s Creek cast. However, Levy has also appeared in other shows as well as a guest or a recurring character, like Package Deal, Greg the Bunny and others. 

Tara Reid (Vicky)

Another famous face from American Pie is Tara Reid, who played Vicky in the series. After her role in the original movie, Tara Reid reprised her role for a couple of the American Pie sequels, and went on to star in a lot of comedies and independent films. 

Some of these include Josie and the Pussycats, Van Wilder, My Boss’s Daughter and more. Reid had a main role as April Wexler in the TV film series, Sharknado, from 2013 to 2018. Reid has also guest-starred in many shows whether as herself or a character, such as the Amazon original series, The Boys, Hell’s Kitchen and more. 

Chris Klein (Oz)

Moving on, now we have Oz from American Pie, played by Chris Klein. Since his appearance in the first film, Klein has popped up in many roles in both movies and television. With film, he reprised the role of Oz in several of the American Pie sequels, as well as appeared in movies such as The United States of Leland, Just Friends, Caught in the Crossfire, Game of Aces, Ron’s Gone Wrong and more. 

Klein has also made a career for himself in television as well. His most recent role is playing Bill Townsend in the Netflix original series, Sweet Magnolias, but he’s appeared in many other shows. For example, he played Cicada in the CW original show, The Flash, for Season 5, voiced Dash in TRON: Uprising, appeared in The Good Guys, had a recurring role in Wilfred and many other parts. 

Natasha Lyonne (Jessica)

Natasha Lyonne as Jessica in American Pie will always be one of my favorite roles in a teen comedy, because she just knocked it out of the park. Since her appearance in the movie, Lyonne has made a name for herself, both in movies and TV. 

Lyonne, in terms of movies, has made a living appearing in comedies and independent films, such as Sleeping with Other People, Hello, My Name Is Doris, the body horror movie, Antibirth, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, and more. 

Television, however, is Lyonne’s bread and butter in my opinion, as she has appeared in several amazing shows. Like Biggs, Lyonne was a part of the Orange is the New Black cast as Nicky, and then went on to have her own show on Netflix, titled Russian Doll, which was nominated for Primetime Emmy awards. In addition to that, she’s also appeared as a guest star or recurring character on many other TV shows, like Girls and Portlandia. 

Mena Suvari (Heather)

Heather has always been one of my favorite characters from American Pie just because I really liked her relationship with Oz, and she was played by Mena Suvari. Since her appearance in the role, Suvari has reprised the character for a couple of the sequels, as well as made a name for herself in movies and TV. 

The same year that American Pie came out, Suvari turned heads in the Academy-Award winning movie, American Beauty, showing her talent as an actress. Afterwards, she would appear in several other movies such as Loser, Sugar & Spice, You May Not Kiss the Bride, The Opposite Sex, The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, and many more. She also had a role in Ron’s Gone Wrong, voicing B-Bot. 

Suvari has also appeared in many TV shows. Some of her more prominent roles include playing Edie in the HBO limited series, Six Feet Under, portraying the Black Dahlia in American Horror Story: Murder House (which she reprised in American Horror Story: Apocalypse), appearing as Maria Abascal in South of Hell, and playing Kathleen in American Woman.

Shannon Elizabeth (Nadia)

Next up, we have Nadia, one of Jim’s love interests in American Pie, played by Shannon Elizabeth. Since her appearance in American Pie, Elizabeth has reprised the role of Nadia in a couple of the American Pie sequels, as well as appearing in other movie roles. Some of her most known are the Christmas movie, Love Actually, the parody film, Scary Movie, the action film, The Outsider and more. 

Elizabeth has also had some prominent roles in television, including playing Brooke in That ‘70s Show and Tiffany Sherwood in Cuts. She’s also had guest appearances in shows like Melissa & Joey, What Not to Wear, and more. 

In 2018, she was a houseguest on Celebrity Big Brother. And in 2019, she returned to her role as Justice for Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. 

Eddie Kaye Thomas (Paul Finch)

Next up, we have Paul Finch in American Pie, played by Eddie Kaye Thomas. Since his appearance in the first movie, Thomas has appeared in many movies, including the sequels to American Pie years later. Some of his other great roles have included playing Andy Rosenberg in the Harold & Kumar comedy film series, appearing as Michael Petunia in Petunia, and playing Dave in Alex & the List, among other smaller films. 

In television, Thomas has had numerous roles. He played Russell in Brutally Normal, Mike Platt in Off Centre, Jeff Woodcock in ‘Til Death, David Kaplan in How to Make it in America, and Tobias in Scorpion. Talk about someone who is busy in the TV industry. He’s also had guest appearances in shows like This Is Us, Outmatched, The Prodigal Son and others. 

Thomas Ian Nicholas (Kevin Myers)

Thomas Ian Nicholas played Kevin Myers in American Pie, and has reprised this role in a couple of the American Pie movies. Some of his other roles that he has appeared in were playing Bill Woodlake in Halloween: Resurrection as part of the Halloween franchise, Sherman’s Way, The Chicago 8, Adverse and Zeroville, as well as smaller film appearances. 

Nicholas has also popped up in several TV shows, from guest parts to recurring roles. This includes having a recurring role on Party of Five, a recurring appearance on Red Band Society, a main role on the animated TV series, Gormiti, some guest roles in shows like Medium and Grey’s Anatomy and more. He also had a guest appearance on the reality cooking show, Hell’s Kitchen. I for one can't wait to see what he does next, whether that be in movies or TV.

Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler’s Mother)

Last but certainly not least, we have Jennifer Coolidge, who played Stifler’s mother in American Pie. Coolidge has had quite the film career while also appearing in a couple of the American Pie sequels. 

She was a part of the Legally Blonde cast, and has appeared in many hit comedy movies such as Zoolander, the Cinderella movie, A Cinderella Story, Austenland, and more, as well as popping up in more serious roles such as Promising Young Woman. One of her most recent appearances in a movie was the Netflix original film, Single All the Way. 

Coolidge has also made a career out of television as well. While appearing in many TV shows as a guest, she’s also had main roles in series’ such as Joey, the teen series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Gravity Falls, The Fungies!, and most recently, the HBO anthology series, The White Lotus. Talk about a stacked resume - and I can't wait to see what she does next. 

You know, I think it’s time for another American Pie reunion. Maybe not as part of the 2022 movies but soon. Anyone up for a sequel? As long as these fantastic actors are in it, I think I’ll love the heck out of it. I also think this just makes me want to eat apple pie - you know, without the giant hole.  

At the turn of the new millennium, several unfortunate teenagers met their untimely demise in 2000’s Final Destination, an often-deranged, hyper-gory, and ruthless horror franchise that proved — ironically — to be full of life, spanning four violent sequels (and a reported reboot) in the decades to follow. So much for cheating death. Starring Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Seann William Scott, Kerr Smith, and Tony Todd, it’s hard to believe that two decades have passed since this series sparked to life, but several of these actors continued to expand their careers. With that, let's see what the Final Destination cast is doing right now. 

Devon Sawa (Alex Browning)

As Alex Browning, the visionary of the Flight 180 explosion, Devon Sawa plays the protagonist in 2000’s Final Destination. Away from this franchise, the actor is known for Little Giants, Casper, Now and Then, Idle Hands, SLC Punk!, Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk 2 (which he co-produced), and The Fanatic. Additionally, Sawa is recognized for playing the title character in Eminem’s “Stan” music video. His other movie credits include Slackers, Around the Fire, Wild America, A Cool Dry Place, The Boy’s Club, The Guilty, Extreme Ops, Devil’s Den, The Philly Kid, Endure, 388 Arletta Ave, Life on the Line, Escape Plan: The Extractors, and Jarhead: Law of Return. 

Most recently, Sawa starred in Disturbing the Peace, which he also produced, Hunter Hunter, Death Rider in the House of Vampires, and Black Friday. Next, he'll appear in Gasoline Alley and Who Are You People. 

Furthermore, on TV, Devon Sawa is best known for playing Sam Matthews on The CW’s Nikita. Currently, the TV actor can be seen in Syfy's Chucky. Sawa’s other TV credits include Somewhere Between, Magnum P.I., MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Odyssey, and Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years. 

Ali Larter (Clear Rivers)

In the role of Clear Rivers, a senior student who assists Alex in rescuing the other survivors from their impending doom, Ali Larter plays the deuteragonist in Final Destination. Later, the actress reprised this role in Final Destination 2. Larter’s other film credits include Varsity Blues, House on Haunted Hill, Legally Blonde, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Resident Evil: Extinction, Obsessed, The Diabolical, A Lot Like Love, Three Way (which she also produced) and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Earlier this year, Larter starred in The Last Victim. Currently, the actress is filming The Man in the White Van. Moreover, Larter will star in She’s Still Here. 

Away from film, Ali Larter is known for playing Tracy Strauss in NBC’s Heroes. More recently, the actress took on the role of Dr. Grace Sawyer in ABC’s The Rookie. Larter’s other TV credits include Pitch, Splitting Up Together, Legends, Entourage, Dawson’s Creek, Chicago Hope, Just Shoot Me!, Suddenly Susan, and Top Secret Videos. Most recently, Larter appeared in Shudder’s Creepshow. 

Kerr Smith (Carter Horton)

Playing the part of Carter Horton, Alex’s jocky rival, Kerr Smith is a bullish brute in 2000’s Final Destination. Most notably, the actor is recognized for his role as Jack McPhee in The WB’s Dawson’s Creek. Additionally, Smith is known for his performance as Kyle Brody in The WB’s Charmed. The actor’s other television credits include The Fosters, As the World Turns, E-Ring, CSI: NY, Justice, Eli Stone, Life Unexpected, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Into the Dark. Recently, Smith had a recurring part as Principal Holden Honey in The CW’s Riverdale. Currently, he appears on Fox’s The Resident in the role of Jacob Yorn. 

Away from TV, Kerr Smith is known for starring in My Bloody Valentine 3D and When Hope Grows. His other film credits include Cruel Intentions 3, The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy, Hit and Runway, The Forsaken, Pressure, Civil Strife, Crossroads, What an Idiot, and Criticized. Outside of acting, Smith runs TerraLife Wellness, a holistic health and wellness business, with his wife, Lisa. 

Kristen Cloke (Valerie Lewton)

As Valerie Lewton, one of the teachers aboard the plane, Kristen Cloke is the most affected survivor in Final Destination. Away from this franchise-starter, the actress starred in 2006’s Black Christmas. Cloke’s other movie credits include Lady Bird, The Rage, Caged Fear, Stay Tuned, The Marrying Man, Willard, The 13th Warrior, Skip Chasers, and Megaville. Additionally, away from her feature film credits, she appeared in short films like 2014’s Tips and 2011’s Magnificat.

Furthermore, away from film, Kristen Cloke starred in Fox’s Space: Above and Beyond. She also appeared in Winnetka Road, Diagnosis Murder, Millenium, Mad About You, Cheers, Quantum Leap, Silk Stalkings, Sydney, Doogie Howser, M.D., and Murder, She Wrote. More recently, Cloke was seen in Pretty Little Liars, Men of a Certain Age, and Lore. Also, she was seen (and heard) in The X-Files, where she also wrote. Moreover, away from acting, Cloke was a writer on Intruders. 

Seann William Scott (Billy Hitchcock)

Playing the part of Billy Hitchcock, a clumsy, bullied student, Seann William Scott appeared in 2000’s Final Destination near the start of his fame. Most notably, the actor is known for playing Steve Stifler in the American Pie movies. Additionally, Scott starred in Goon and Goon: Last of the Enforcers. His other movie credits include Dude, Where’s My Car?, The Dukes of Hazzard, Road Trip, Evolution, Mr. Woodcock, Role Models, Cop Out, Southland Tales, Bulletproof Monk, Old School, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and The Rundown. Furthermore, Scott was seen in Stark Raving Mad, The Promotion, American Loser, Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach, Just Before I Go, Bloodline, Super Troopers 2, Movie 43, and Already Gone. As a voice actor, he can also be heard in the Ice Age sequels. 

On TV, Sean William Scott starred in Fox’s Lethal Weapon. He can also be seen in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Next, Scott will star in Fox’s Welcome to Flatch. 

Daniel Roebuck (Agent Weine)

As Agent Weine, an FBI operative who becomes suspicious of Alex Browning, believing that he’s a suicide terrorist, Daniel Roebuck is an investigative guy in Final Destination. Most notably, the actor played Deputy Marshall Robert Biggs in The Fugitive and U.S. Marshals. Also, Roebuck played Jay Leno in HBO’s The Late Shift. His other notable movie credits include The Devil’s Rejects, Bubba Ho-Tep, We Were Soldiers, the Agent Cody Banks movies, Project X, River’s Edge, Halloween (2007), Halloween II, John Dies at the End, Flash of Genius, and The Lords of Salem. More recently, Roebuck appeared in Disrupted, Second Thoughts, Penance Lane, My Brothers’ Crossing (which he produced), and American Kings. Additionally, the actor co-wrote, produced, directed, and starred in 2017’s Getting Grace. 

Next, Roebuck directed, wrote, produced, and starred in the upcoming movies Lucky Louie and The Hail Mary. The actor's upcoming credits include Stream, Colonials, Angel Baby, and this year's short film, Uncommon Negotiator. 

Furthermore, on TV, Daniel Roebuck is best known for NBC's Matlock. His other credits include Nash Bridges, Lost, Sonny with a Chance, Glee, Weeds, and 9-1-1. 

Roger Guenveur Smith (Agent Schrek)

In the role of Agent Schrek, the other FBI operative who shares Agent Weine’s suspicions, Roger Guenveur Smith plays a hard-nosed character in 2000’s Final Destination. Some of his most notable film credits include Do the Right Thing, He Got Game, Summer of Sam, Dope, Eve’s Bayou, King of New York, School Daze, Malcolm X, Poetic Justice, Tales from the Hood, Panther, American Gangster, Get on the Bus, The Son of No One, Marshall, and Chi-Raq. Additionally, Smith wrote and starred in Rodney King. His most recent film credits include The Available Wife, Influence, The Five Rules of Success, The Business of Christmas, which he also produced, and Real Talk. Next, he’ll be seen in Reminisce and a pair of short films, Thoughts Are Things and My Father Belize. Currently, Smith is filming Till.

Away from film, Roger Guenveur Smith’s television credits include A Different World, Oz, K Street, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Eagleheart, and Queen Sugar. Most recently, the actor was seen in Netflix's star-studded limited series, Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, from back in March. 

Tony Todd (William Bludworth)

Playing the part of William Bludworth, a mortician and the owner of Bludworth Funeral Homes who knows a thing or two about death, Tony Todd adopted a popular recurring character in the Final Destination movies. He's the only actor to reprise his role in all four sequels. Most famously, Todd played the title character in the Candyman franchise, including this year’s new addition. He also found fame through his performance as Ben in 1990’s Night of the Living Dead. 

Todd’s other movie credits include (but don’t limit to) Platoon, The Crow, The Rock, The Man from Earth, Wishmaster, Bird, Colors, Sleepwalk, Lean on Me, Excessive Force, and Hatchet I & II. Most recently, the hard-working actor was seen in The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2, The Lockdown Hauntings, Realm of Shadows, Insight, Destination Mafia, Tales from the Hood 3, The Changed, The Reenactment, Traveling Light, 30 to 45, The Witching Hour, and Horror Noire. 

Next, he’s slated to appear in All Gone Wrong, Requiem, The Oath: Outbreak, Devilreaux, Night Night, The Bunker, Hellblazers, and the short film, Cigarettes & Coffee. He’ll also lend his voice to the video game, Spider-Man 2.

Away from film, Tony Todd is best known for playing Kurn in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His other TV credits include Chuck, 24, The Young and the Restless, The Flash, Scream, Boston Public, and Dead of Summer. Most recently, Todd was heard in Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

Chad E. Donella (Tod Waggner)

As Tod Waggner, Alex’s ill-fated best friend, Chad E. Donella was the first victim to die in Final Destination — both the film and franchise. Most recently, the television actor had a recurring role as Jack Keaton on NBC’s Blindspot. Donella’s other television credits include Scandal, Majority Rules!, Smallville, Ghost Whisperer, Taken, ER, The Practice, Lost, CSI, Smallville, Castle, and Flashpoint. 

Away from TV, Chad E. Donella’s other movie credits include Shattered Glass, Disturbing Behavior, Hate Crime, Taken 3, Middle Man, Saw: The Final Chapter, Girl Fever, The Long Kiss Goodnight, 100 Women, Moon Palace, and 9 Lives of Mara. He was most recently seen in 2016’s short film, It’s Not What You Know. 

Amanda Detmer (Terry Chaney) 

In the role of Terry Chaney, Carter Horton’s girlfriend, Amanda Detmer plays the second victim in 2000’s Final Destination. Most notably, the actress is known for Drop Dead Gorgeous. Detmer’s other movie credits include Saving Silverman, The Majestic, Big Fat Liar, Boys and Girls, Kiss the Bride, A Little Inside, Extreme Dating, Jam, Final Move, AmericanEast, Pure Country Pure Heart, and You, Me, and Dupree. Recently, she was seen in Lady Driver and A California Christmas. Next, Detmer stars in City Lights. 

Outside of film, Amanda Detmer starred in short-lived series like NBC’s A.U.S.A. and ABC’s What About Brian. More recently, she played Tracy in Fox’s Empire. This February marked the 18th anniversary of Old School, Todd Phillips' back-to-school sophomoric comedy that propelled the film careers of its three lead stars, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell. Co-starring a variety of future celebrities, including Jeremy Piven, Ellen Pompeo, and Simon Helberg, this raunchy romp was met with mixed reviews and a modest box office intake, but it found a loving audience, becoming one of the most quoted movies of the early '00s. Now that nearly two decades have passed since its theatrical rollout, what's the Old School cast doing now? Let's find out!

Luke Wilson (Mitch “The Godfather” Martin)

As Mitch Martin, i.e. "The Godfather," a lovelorn 30-something who moves into Beanie's frat house after his girlfriend cheats on him, Luke Wilson plays our hapless lead character in Old School. Most notably, Wilson played Anthony Adams in Bottle Rocket, Richie Tenenbaum in The Royal Tenenbaums, and Emmett Richmond in the Legally Blonde movies. Additionally, he starred in Home Fries, The Family Stone, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, and Idiocracy. His other notable film credits include My Dog Skip, Charlie's Angels (2000), Blades of Glory, 3:10 to Yuma, and Death at a Funeral (2010). Vince Vaughn (Bernard “Beanie” Campbell)

Playing the part of Bernard "Beanie" Campbell, who turns his house into a fraternity to stay compliant with the university rules, Vince Vaughn starred in Old School. Following his breakout performance as Trent Walker in Swingers, Vaughn found fame with his lead performances in Wedding Crashers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and The Break-Up. As Dean Gordon Pritchard, i.e. "Cheese," an old classmate who's out for revenge, Jeremy Piven plays the primary antagonist in Old School. Most notably, Piven is known for his three-time Emmy-winning performance as Ari Gold in HBO's Entourage. Later, the actor reprised this role in the 2015 big screen continuation. His other notable television roles include Mr. Selfridge, Ellen, The Larry Sanders Show, and Seinfeld.

Additionally, on the big screen, Jeremy Piven played the lead role of Don Ready in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. He also starred in Keeping Up with the Steins, PCU, and I Melt With You. In the role of Nicole, Mitch's high school crush who reconnects with our lead character, Ellen Pompeo plays a romantic character in Todd Phillips' Old School. Most notably, Pompeo is known for her long-standing title role as Dr. Meredith Grey in ABC's Grey's Anatomy. She also played this part in Station 19. Additionally, she's seen in Friends, Law & Order, and Strangers with Candy. Outside of television, Pompeo appears in Catch Me If You Can, Daredevil, and Moonlight Mile. Perrey Reeves (Marissa Jones)

Playing the part of Marissa Jones, Frank's concerned wife, Perrey Reeves plays a stern supporting character in 2003's Old School. Most notably, Reeves reunited with Old School co-star Jeremy Piven to play Melissa Gold in Entourage. She reprised this role in the movie continuation. Her other TV credits include Covert Affairs, Famous in Love, Private Practice, and Grey's Anatomy. Additionally, on the big screen, Reeves appears in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Child's Play 3, Kicking & Screaming (1995), Plus One, and Smoke Signals. Juliette Lewis (Heidi)

As Heidi, Mitch's girlfriend, Juliette Lewis plays a randy supporting character in Old School. Previously, Lewis scored an Oscar nomination for her supporting turn in Cape Fear. She also received an Emmy nomination for My Lousiana Sky. Most notably, Lewis is known for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Natural Born Killers. Her other film credits include Kalifornia, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, From Dusk Till Dawn, Whip It, August: Osage County, Conviction, Strange Days, and Husbands and Wives.

Leah Remini (Lara Campbell)

In the role of Lara Campbell, one of Marissa's friends, Leah Remini plays a sarcastic supporting character in 2003's Old School. Most notably, Remini is known for playing Carrie Heffernan in CBS's The King of Queens. She reunited with Kevin James for CBS's Kevin Can Wait. She can also be seen in Saved by the Bell, Cheers, and The Talk, where she co-hosted. Additionally, Remini hosted the documentary series, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which resulted in two Emmy wins. Also, the actress frontlined the reality TV series, Leah Remini: It's All Relative. Furthermore, outside of television, Remini appears in Mad Families, The Clapper, Handsome, and Second Act.

Elisha Cuthbert (Darcie Goldberg)

Playing the part of Darcie Goldberg, Mitch's no-nonsense one-night-stand, Elisha Cuthbert has a prominent role in Old School. Most notably, Cuthbert starred in The Girl Next Door. She's also known for her performances in House of Wax (2005), Love Actually, Captivity, The Quiet, and He Was a Quiet Man. Additionally, Cuthbert's recent film credits include Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Just Before I Go, and My Sassy Girl.

Outside of film, Elisha Cuthbert played main roles in Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Fox's 24, and ABC's Happy Endings. Additionally, she played a lead part in NBC's short-lived sitcom, One Big Happy. More recently, Cuthbert was in the main cast of Netflix's The Ranch. Simon Helberg (Jerry)

As Jerry, Simon Helberg received one of his first high-profile roles in Old School. Most notably, the actor played Howard Wolowitz in CBS's long-running sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. His other notable TV credits include MADtv, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and Derek and Simon, which he co-created and produced. Furthermore, as a voice actor, Helberg can be heard in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil, and The Tom and Jerry Show.

Outside of TV, Simon Helberg is best known for his supporting performances in Florence Foster Jenkins and A Serious Man. He also appeared in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Good Night and Good Luck, A Cinderella Story, and Van Wilder. Additionally, Helberg starred in, wrote, and co-directed We'll Never Have Paris. Patrick J. Adams (Patch)

Taking on the role of Patch, Patrick J. Adams made his film debut in 2003's Old School. Most notably, Adams is known for his leading role as Mike Ross in the first seven seasons of USA Network's Suits. His other television credits include Orphan Black, Pillow Talk, Sneaky Pete, Rosemary's Baby, and Friday Night Lights. Lethal Weapon went through some significant changes in between Season 2 and Season 3, with Seann William Scott  getting brought in to replace Damon Wayans's exiting co-star, Clayne Crawford. Scott ended up joining the show as a new character and not a recast, but after only one season on the show (which was Lethal Weapon’s third overall), Fox cancelled Lethal Weapon. Fast forward nine months, and Scott has signed on for a new TV show.

Though he may have left Lethal Weapon's madcap capers behind, Seann William Scott has already signed on for a new project being developed for Fox. It will be a U.S. remake of the UK comedy This Country. Keep in mind, though, that This Country is only in the pilot stages at this point, and isn't guaranteed a series order to join Fox's primetime schedule.

This Country features a mockumentary-style premise (think The Office) that chronicles the lives of two cousins living in a small town. Kelly and Shrub are the names of said cousins, though Seann William Scott will not be playing either one of them. The American Pie franchise vet has instead signed on to star as Minneapolis native, Father Joe, according to TVLine.

Though not a priest, Seann William Scott's Father Joe is described as a “community leader” who serves as a “father figure” to Kelly and Shrub. Father Joe is going to need the patience of many people to deal with the cousins, whose antics will constantly test his. Despite the challenge, Scott’s This Country character will be determined to maintain his optimism and keep his role model status in check. Stay strong, Father Joe!

Considering Seann William Scott’s comic timing (which is incredible, in my opinion), a TV comedy is an excellent fit. Fox likes its laughs, with hit sitcom Last Man Standing winning over audiences more than the network's other comedies. That said, This Country's single-camera approach would be a departure from the Tim Allen starrer, which is filmed before audiences.

Here's hoping Fox will end up having some big laughs once the pilot is done. Helping bolster This Country's chances is Bridesmaids and Last Christmas director, Paul Feig, stepping behind the camera to direct and executive produce it. Feig was also behind one of the biggest cult TV shows of the modern era, Freaks & Geeks, which launched plenty of careers. It'll be great to see how well he works with a pro like Seann William Scott.

The actor came on to Lethal Weapon when it was two seasons in, and only after a tumultuous situation led to his introduction. If the pilot for This Country gets picked up, Seann William Scott could be in from the beginning. That said, it is unfortunate for fans that Lethal Weapon was not able to come back for another season to resolve that Season 3 finale twist.

The good news is that Sean William Scott is putting himself in a position to potentially return to television. It is nice to know that Scott is still on Fox’s radar. So, even if not in this comedy, maybe there's something else at the network with his name on it.

Personally speaking, it seems possible. I think Seann William Scott has a lot of talent as an actor. So, it would be nice to see him on a television show in the long-term. He has spent most of his career on the silver screen. Based on him joining the pilot for This Country, though, it seems he has not ruled out television for his career's future.

Since it is a pilot, it will be a while before news arrives for This Country. While you wait to see if Seann William Scott will return to television with the sitcom, this winter and spring’s premieres await!

TV audiences are offered no guarantees that a beloved series' cast will be retained for the entirety of the show's run, and Lethal Weapon fans learned that the hard way while waiting for Season 3. The void left by former star Clayne Crawford, who was rather dramatically removed from the action-comedy over reports of on-set misconduct, will be filled by American Pie franchise vet Seann William Scott, who tried to soothe worried viewers about Riggs not being around anymore. Let everyone be reassured that Scott's character definitely isn't meant as a flat-out replacement for Riggs.

In a situation like this, where a TV character's necessitated absence is the result of behind-the-scenes drama, the hope is always for the creative team to be able to explain the changes away without making the on-screen narrative as awkward as the background drama. It's strongly assumed that Lethal Weapon will be wearing kid gloves when handling the issue in the Season 3 premiere (and possibly beyond), given that Clayne Crawford's Martin Riggs had become extremely popular among the fanbase, serving as a fitting counterpart to Mel Gibson's lead from the films. Understandably, that fanbase was not ready to say goodbye after only two seasons.

A fairly large backlash accompanied Clayne Crawford's removal from the modest Fox hit, driven forward by the actor claiming he was completely unaware of what was happening at the time his exit was being put into practice by Fox execs and Lethal Weapon's producers. Months after the dust had settled, the actor provided quite a different story for how the events went down leading up to his firing, which drew fan ire back to the surface. Essentially, Crawford copped to some of the behavioral claims made against him, such as losing his cool and yelling at an assistant director, but he denied other allegations concerning a Season 2 episode he directed; Damon Wayans claimed that Crawford ran an unsafe set, and had shared a video in which he states he could be seen getting hit by shrapnel during an explosion filmed for one stunt, which further fueled the feud that had built up between the co-stars.

We probably shouldn't expect to see Lethal Weapon Season 3 address any of that behind-the-scenes ugliness when it begins, although it might still be rather difficult to wrap up Riggs' story in a happy-go-lucky way, given Season 2 ended with Riggs getting shot in the chest by his crappy half-brother. The character was aiming for something more akin to riding off into the Texas sunset with Molly, which could obviously still explain why he won't be part of the LAPD anymore. Getting shot in the chest sometimes makes one less willing to jump right back into the line of fire.

When Season 3 kicks off, Lethal Weapon will be introducing Seann William Scott's Wesley Cole, who just so happens to share the last name of Rene Russo's Lorna Cole, Riggs' romantic interest from the film franchise. While it's not entirely clear how that connection would provide any explanations for why Riggs isn't around, it could still make for an interesting tie-in.

Fox's series Lethal Weapon has been in a period of flux. In fact, the show nearly got cancelled following some allegations that series lead Clayne Crawford had some issues on set. However, the production made a move to replace Riggs on the series instead, and this spring we learned that Seann William Scott would be joining the show as new detective Wesley Cole. The first look at Lethal Weapon Season 3 certainly shows more of the Goon side of Seann William Scott's personality. After being admonished by Roger Murtaugh about taking his "new partnership seriously," we get a quick shot of Detective Wesley Cole taking down a baddie in swift fashion. The new clip also ends on a more comedic note as Cole ribs Murtaugh about his age. Murtaugh getting "too old for this shit" has been a common theme in the series so far, and it looks as if that dynamic won't be changing, even if Wesley Cole is a far different character than Martin Riggs overall.

Obviously, this clip leaves some questions to be answered. Technically Season 2 of Lethal Weapon ended on a cliffhanger, as we didn't know either Riggs' or Clayne Crawford's fate on the series at the time the season wrapped up. The preview doesn't make it clear if they are killing the character off or maybe just sending him to Texas with Molly and Ben, which is how it looked as if Season 2 would wrap up before Riggs was unceremoniously shot in the chest. The show is definitely waiting to explain to fans how that will pan out.

Luckily, Seann William Scott's new character, Wesley Cole, isn't a complete mystery. We learned a few months ago that Wesley Cole likely won't have any relation to Martin Riggs at all, which means that Lethal Weapon will likely begin navigating away from the structure and formatting of the original movies the series is based on. Detective Wesley Cole is expected to be a war veteran who fathered a son with a woman named Natalie Flynn, who will be played by Maggie Lawson. Cole will move to the Los Angeles area to be closer to his son. Shenanigans in the detective department will likely ensue.

Obviously, there are a lot of changes coming to Lethal Weapon Season 3. Fans really seem to have shown up for the balance of Riggs and Murtaugh on the series during previous seasons. However, Lethal Weapon Season 3 is moving forward, and fans will either need to get on board with the new amalgamation or bail. Perhaps the show will even pick up some new audience members along the way! The spring TV season was full of ups and downs this year, with some fan-favorites ending up on the chopping block. However, one show with solid ratings that also found itself in the bubble was Fox's Lethal Weapon, following reports that the two leads didn't get along and that the series was having trouble with actor Clayne Crawford on set. Since the show is pretty focused on Riggs and Murtaugh, it seemed like the death knell was tolling, and this week at TCA Fox Boss Gary Newman admitted that Lethal Weapon was, in fact, about to get canceled. Then, Warner Bros. came through with a last minute Hail Mary in Seann William Scott. He said:

Obviously, it's not new news that the network was enamored with the Seann William Scott solution. We've known for a few months that the actor would be joining Lethal Weapon and playing a brand new character on the series. The fate of Riggs was up in the air at the end of Season 3, and I'm assuming the character will either be retired off the show with a disability following getting shot or will be killed off the series completely. However, despite there being rumors the show could be canceled last spring, this quote makes it clear how close Lethal Weapon actually came to being canceled--and it was close.

Fox TV Group's Gary Newman also said at TCA (via Deadline) that previously the network had wanted to work with Seann William Scott, but for whatever reason it never worked out. So, it was a fortuitous win for Lethal Weapon when Matt Miller started creating a new character for the show and the actor wanted to sign on. He said:

Eventually Lethal Weapon was renewed and will live on for Season 3 on Fox. The new season will actually be Seann William Scott's first network TV gig as a leading man. We'll have to wait and see how the series fares with a totally different dynamic and what that means for some characters on the show. Will, for instance, Jordana Brewster still have enough to do with no Riggs? (I always felt like she wasn't in the show enough, anyway.) Undoubtedly, Riggs' Dad and girlfriend should be out of the picture, as well. We'll find out soon enough. With Lethal Weapon's original co-lead Clayne Crawford exiting the series following the tumultuous events that occurred filming the show's second season, the presence of Martin Riggs' needed a replacement. Enter Seann William Scott, who will be the co-lead of the series when Lethal Weapon returns for its third season. Until now, nothing much was known about Scott's role with the series, including if he was a recast. That is now changing thanks in part to the casting of Psych's Maggie Lawson, in a crucial role.

First up, Seann William Scott will be playing a new character when he makes his Lethal Weapon debut. That's right, Scott will not be a Riggs recast. Scott will instead play Wesley Cole -- a war veteran and a father. Wesley and Maggie Lawson's Natalie Flynn, an emergency room surgeon, share a son together. Said son is the result of Wesley and then-medic Natalie's brief romance in an active war zone. Flash forward ten years, and Wesley has moved to L.A. so he can be closer to Natalie and their son, per Deadline's exclusive.

Considering the ten years part in the description, we can likely deduce that Wesley and Natalie's son will be around ten-years-old. Given his move to L.A. and his career background; Wesley's job as the partner of Damon Wayans' Murtaugh should naturally fall into place from there. While different last names may seem to rule out the potential of Seann William Scott's character being related to Martin Riggs', they could be half-siblings. We may know for sure if there is any relation between the characters when Season 3 premieres.

For now, it seems like Lethal Weapon could be making a clean break from Riggs. As for what sounds like Seann William Scott's Wesley's potential love interest, Maggie Lawson is joining the series in a recurring capacity. And hers and Scott's screen energy should be quite palatable. All told, the details surrounding Lethal Weapon's new co-lead sound sweet and exciting.

This character appears tailor-made for the equally dramatic and comically skilled actor. Based on these details alone, it is beyond easy to envision Seann William Scott playing this role and absolutely nailing it. A silver screen regular ever since his breakout role in American Pie, Scott has been an underrated movie highlight for years. So it will be cool to have him as part of television's ever-growing landscape of movie stars.

Now it will be up to Lethal Weapon fans to decide how they feel once they see the new co-leads in action together. On paper, it sounds like a great match. On camera, that could be a different story. Whether fans will accept the new co-lead is another question, fall will tell us.

After a week of some mighty big cancellations for all the major networks -- and one very notable resurrection -- Fox has some good news for fans of Lethal Weapon, which has officially been renewed for Season 3. However, potentially bad news awaits viewers holding out hope that Clayne Crawford's Martin Riggs would be returning after the actor's ousting, as Lethal Weapon found a replacement co-lead with a more comedic background. Murtaugh will soon be partnered up with the American Pie franchise's Seann William Scott.

While details aren't the most plentiful this early on, Lethal Weapon Season 3 is happening, and Damon Wayans will be sharing the screen with a brand new face, and it's one that TV viewers aren't so used to seeing outside of watching movies on cable. Lethal Weapon will be Seann William Scott's first big broadcast network role, and he'll play a new character who "folds into a partnership" with Wayan's Murtaugh. So that definitely answers the question about whether or not the character of Martin Riggs himself was being recast.

On paper, Lethal Weapon's third season appeared imminent, but behind-the-scenes problems threatened to derail one of the more successful film-to-TV adaptations in the current era, with Clayne Crawford's reportedly foul workplace behavior causing on-set problems, which boiled over into him getting booted from the show. (Which he had the weirdest response to.) Thankfully on most fronts, Fox decided bringing Season 3 to fans was a far better option than ending things on such a wildly dramatic cliffhanger. Spoilers below for anyone who hasn't yet watched the Season 2 finale yet.

"One Day More" almost allowed Riggs to break free from his demons, particularly the ones in his bloodline, but before he could make his big trip with Molly and the kiddo, Nathan Riggs' tragedy-causing legacy struck one last time, with half-brother Garrett shooting Riggs and leaving him on death's door. There was at least a small chance that the producers might decide to bring another actor to take the Riggs mantle into Season 3, especially since it would seemingly be franchise blasphemy to kill off one of the two original characters. But if it's possible to play "Taps" using explosions, this would be the time to do it.

Seann William Scott has most recently seen on the big screen in a pair of highly anticipated sequels to cult comedy favorites, Goon: Last of the Enforcers and Super Troopers 2. And he's quite an interesting choice for Lethal Weapon. Depending on his character's backstory, the show could step in a completely different direction in Season 3, without a direct need for therapy sessions and grieving. Which obviously isn't necessarily a positive thing, since the show's dramatic side is what makes the stakes feel as real as they do. But I'm betting we'll see a different side of Scott than we've seen before, and Damon Wayans makes any pairing work, so there are plenty of reasons to stay positive.

With Goon: Last of the Enforcers out now, the bloody and vulgar world of Doug Glatt has officially entered franchise territory. That said, the release of a second Goon naturally raises one other pressing question: What are the chances that this comedy sequel could lead to a trilogy? I recently asked Seann William Scott about this possibility during a chat about the newly released sequel. Scott explained that he's interested if Goon 2 is successful, saying:

We can hope for a third Goon movie all we want, but Seann William Scott's comments during our chat highlight one of the most important factors towards getting another film made: quantifiable success. When the first Goon film initially debuted, many people likely wouldn't have given it a shot at a direct sequel -- given the movie's modest $6 million worldwide box office gross. However, Goon eventually went on to become a sleeper hit on Netflix and home release, thus making a sequel considerably easier to justify. If Goon 3 is going to happen, then Goon 2 needs to do the same.

Of course, while Jay Baruchel apparently has ideas for how to continue this universe and take Doug Glatt in a new direction, Seann William Scott wouldn't tell me the specifics of those possible storylines when I pressed him about a third movie. All we know at this point is the fact that the possibility of a third movie has been thrown around; we will have to wait and see where it goes from here.

If a third Goon movie does enter development at some point, it will be fascinating to see where they take this story. Goon: Last of the Enforcers ends with Doug Glatt intentionally sustaining a career-ending injury, which subsequently sees him forced into retirement so he can live a happy and quiet life with Eva and their newborn baby. Last of the Enforcers approaches the conclusion of its story with a fairly definitive sense of finality, which means a possible third Goon movie would need to change up its core premise to keep things going. The first two Goon films have done great jobs of subverting tropes and clichés of the sports genre (the Rocky series in particular), and there's no shortage of other great sports properties to take inspiration from.

Goon: Last of the Enforcers is currently in theaters, and the film is also available on Digital HD and VOD.

With the release of Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Seann William Scott has effectively propelled one of his best pieces of work into franchise territory, and proven that he knows how to return to a well to deliver great results. That raises the question about other projects that could potentially receive sequels. I recently asked the American Pie star whether or not his 2008 hit Role Models would ever receive a follow-up, and he admitted that the structure of the current Hollywood landscape will likely prevent it from happening, saying:

The broad comedy genre has definitely suffered a bit in recent years. While there are certainly winners out there like Girls Trip or last year's Bad Moms, many of this year's comedies (such as Rough Night, Snatched, and The Hitman's Bodyguard) underperformed with critics and audiences alike. With a decreasing appetite for R-rated comedies on the silver screen, it doesn't seem likely that a follow-up to Role Models will ever materialize -- regardless of how much we may want to see it.

These days, the core premise of a film like Role Models feels like something that would be made on the small screen instead of the silver screen. The film centers on two losers (Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott) who find themselves forced to do court ordered community service time working for a big brother program. A surprise hit when it debuted in 2008; the film has since gone on to earn a lifetime worldwide gross of almost $100 million.

That said, there's no accounting for star power. In the years since the original Role Models first debuted in theaters, Paul Rudd went on to achieve even greater stardom with his work as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moreover, director David Wain is riding high off of the successful Wet Hot American Summer series on Netflix. With that amount of clout, it's possible that they could pull a Super Troopers 2 and crowdfund the film through fan enthusiasm. Just don't count on a major studio going all in on the project.

It's no secret that comedy sequels are hard to pull off -- and often fall flat as a result. From Zoolander 2 to Dumb and Dumber To, follow-ups to classic comedies regularly try to recapture the magic of the original, and it seldom works. With Goon: Last of the Enforcers debuting today, that's what career funnyman Seann William Scott is trying to avoid. According to Scott: the cast and crew knew they faced an uphill battle making a sequel, so their primary approach was to find an angle for the story that actually warranted a sequel. The actor opened up to me during our recent chat about the hyper-violent film and explained:

As Seann William Scott pointed out in his interview with CinemaBlend, a Goon movie is a bit different from an American Pie movie. At the end of an American Pie film, we want to see everything reset back to normal after Jim, Stifler and the rest of the gang get into their shenanigans. By contrast, the Goon franchise provides Doug Glatt with a proper arc that develops him emotionally, physically and psychologically. Where many comedy sequels tend to fall flat because they perfectly emulate the original, Goon: Last of the Enforcers uses the events of the original merely to inform how its story sets up. The fundamental DNA of a Goon story is present in this film, but it has been reorganized into something new and exciting.

In the end, Goon: Last of the Enforcers found the right story by acknowledging the passage of time between movies. Taking place six years after the (still surprisingly well-received) original film, Goon 2 finds Doug Glatt forced to cope with age and a potentially career-ending injury when he goes head-to-head against a young up-and-comer in the world of semi-professional hockey. The film brings back almost every major element and character from the original story, but it allows them to evolve (or not evolve) in a way that feels organic and earned. Because many comedy sequels often fail to pull this off, it's a welcome change of pace.

They don't make raunchy teen comedies quite like they used to, and in the late 1990s, there was arguably no better franchise for that particular brand of crass humor than American Pie. Looking to take a trip down memory lane, I brought up the franchise to Seann William Scott during a chat about the release of Goon: Last of the Enforcers. He admitted that one of the most commonly quoted lines that fans will say to him on the street has nothing to do with Steve Stifler, and everything to do with Jeanine Stifler. Scott explained:

Well, at least some fans are willing to give him a solid "rock out with your cock out," when they see Seann William Scott on the street. However, more than any other American Pie quote, it sounds like people REALLY love to reference the franchise's resident hot mom whenever they see him on the streets.

Of course, it's not hard to understand why the Stifler's mom joke has become one of the most consistently quoted American Pie moments of all time. While playing Steve Stifler was what ultimately catapulted Seann William Scott to stardom, the raunchy teen comedy series also offered Jennifer Coolidge her career-defining performance as Jeanine Stifler.

The quotes that fans like to yell at Seann William Scott whenever they see him on the street are not limited to the American Pie franchise, though. The actor continued by explaining that a moment from The Rundown comes up frequently as well, saying:

It makes us laugh too, Seann. It makes us laugh too. Despite the fact that it was one of the first movies that proved that The Rock could become a bonafide movie star, The Rundown has arguably flown under the radar since its 2003 release (despite a commendable 70% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes). Elsewhere in our conversation, Scott told me that a possible sequel was considered at one point (albeit starring The Rock and Jonah Hill), but it never panned out. That said, between "Stifler's mom," "Rock out with your cock out," and "thunder and lightning," Scott still has plenty of iconic movie quotes to accompany his filmography.

In a post-Netflix world, a film's box office numbers often don't reflect its sheer value among fans. Increasingly diverse methods of consumption have created new ways to find new content, and few films of the 2010s epitomize that idea more than 2011's Goon. The cult classic hockey comedy has developed a rabid, under-the-radar fan base since its initial debut (thanks in large part to its boost by streaming services), leaving fans wondering if Jay Baruchel's Goon: Last of the Enforcers can recapture that same magic six years later. Luckily, the franchise treatment fits like a well-worn glove, and Goon: Last of the Enforcers is an incredibly welcome (albeit sometimes uneven) return to a violent and vulgar but ultimately heartwarming world.

Six years have passed since dim-witted Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) rose to stardom in the world of semi-professional hockey as an enforcer for the Highlanders. He has earned the adoration of his teammates, the fans, and his now pregnant wife Eva (Alison Pill). However, when unhinged up-and-comer Anders Cain (Wyatt Russell) hits the ice and nails Doug with a potentially career-ending injury, the enforcer turns to former rival Ross Rhea (Liev Schreiber) to teach him to adapt to the fact that he's neither the hockey player, nor the man, that he once was.

Let's get the biggest question out of the way right off the bat. Is Goon: Last of the Enforcers as good as the original? The answer to that question is no, but with the added caveat that this sequel is one of the few comedy follow-ups that honors the original and continues the story in a logical and emotionally resonant way. Jay Baruchel's story tackles real themes of age, responsibility, and family in a way that one wouldn't necessarily expect from a sports comedy, and I found myself struck by the number of times Last of the Enforcers tugged at my heartstrings as much as it tickled my funny bone. Everyone involved leaves it on the ice, and the final few minutes of the film offers one of the deeper and more emotionally complex endings for a comedy in recent memory.

The reason this works so well ultimately boils down to the fact that Goon: Last of the Enforcers is full of familiar characters (pretty much the entire cast of the original returns to some degree) that you want to spend time with. Seann William Scott continues to play against the frat boy persona that defined the earlier years of his career with his performance as Doug Glatt, and the decision continues to pay off. He imbues the character with such an "aww shucks" likability, and his relationship with Eva continues to anchor the character and prevent him from becoming a cartoon. Neither dark nor cynical, Doug is simply the type of do-good hero that some people need in 2017.

An avalanche of sports movie clichés admittedly does most of the film's heavy lifting for it, but that's not inherently a bad thing if those clichés are handled correctly. Goon is already equal parts parody and subversion of a typical sports movie, so it only makes sense for Goon: Last of the Enforcers to lean on the clichés of sports movie sequels to inform its story. Seann William Scott has even admitted that the Rocky franchise served as a primary source of inspiration for the film, so we can't entirely fault Last of the Enforcers for wearing its influences on its sleeve.

Of course, in the process of adhering to these clichés, telling a new story, and bringing back most of the original ensemble, some folks get lost in the shuffle. In particular, I found myself disappointed by the endlessly charismatic Liev Schreiber's relegation to secondary status in the story, as his Apollo Creed-esque turn as Ross is one of the highlights of this new film.

That's not to say that Goon: Last of the Enforcers isn't packed to the brim with every imaginable degree of raunchy comedy; some of which works, and some of which doesn't. This is a film that knows it wants an R-rating, and it seems intent on earning that label at every turn. Pretty much every bodily fluid in the book gets a joke in this movie. If you're the type of person who will laugh at homeless people doling out hand jobs, Mary (Elisha Cuthbert) talking about how much booze it would take for her to hook up with another woman, or standup comedian T.J. Miller delivering an unprompted explanation that "we're all pink on the inside," then this sequel's humor will work for you.

That said, some of these jokes can eventually wear thin. The reputation of T.J. Miller's sportscaster character can eventually grow somewhat tiresome, and some of the film's more tasteless jokes (particularly ones delivered by Baruchel's Pat) can feel more like they're aiming to fill a cuss quota than serving the story. Beyond that, if you're not already inclined to enjoy this particular brand of raunchy humor, then you're likely better off steering clear of Goon altogether. This is a movie that knows its audience, and it plays to that specific niche. Either you're part of it, or you aren't.

If you're in the market for buckets of blood, non-stop cussing, and a good, old-fashioned sports story, then this film (mostly) delivers. Goon: Last of the Enforcers is a rare sequel that gets bloody fighting to earn its existence. With heart and laughs aplenty, its' a big win and one of 2017's best comedies.

Back in 2011, Goon proved to be a rather big success, as it not only grossed $70 million but it also achieved impressive reviews, too, finishing with a score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Over the last five years Jay Baruchel, who co-wrote the original with Evan Goldberg, has been on a mission to make a sequel. We now finally get to see the fruits of Jay Baruchel's labour, because the first trailer for Goon: Last Of The Enforcers, which Baruchel is directing as well as co-writing, has now been released. And it looks rather promising.

Goon: Last Of The Enforcers (trailer courtesy of JoBlo) once again revolves around Doug 'The Thug' Glatt, with Seann William Scott reprising his role as the bruising ice hockey star. The original drew heavy inspiration from the antics of enforcers throughout hockey history, as well as Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio's book Goon: The True Story Of An Unlikely Journey Into Minor League Hockey.

This time around the film is set during a lockout of the professional ice hockey season, and it sees The Thug's team the Halifax Highlanders deciding to reunite with a group of new players. Jay Baruchel has assembled a rather impressive cast for his directorial debut, as he's convinced pretty much all of the original ensemble to return.

As you'd expect, Jay Baruchel himself is doing just that in his role as Doug's best friend, plus he'll be joined by Alison Pill's Eva, who is Doug's pregnant wife There's also Liev Schreiber as Doug's rival, Ross 'The Boss' Rhea, as well as Marc-Andre Grondin, Eugene Levy, Kim Coates, Jonathan Cherry and David Paetkau.

Plus, Jay Baruchel has expanded the cast with Elisha Cuthbert, Wyatt Russell and T.J. Miller, too, which suggests that there's enough new talent to make Goon: The Last Enforcers its own, while still echoing the original. During production on Goon: Last Of The Enforcers, TSN's Sportscaster James Duthie took to Twitter to reveal that T.J. Miller would be play his co-commentator during the film, too, which just sounds perfect.

Unfortunately, while Goon: Last Of The Enforcers' Canadian release has already been announced as March 17, 2017, we're still waiting for a date when it will finally be with American audiences. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates!

Seann Williams Scott (aka Stifler from American Pie, aka Doug Glatt from Goon) is a cinephile. You might not’ve guessed that, considering his acting choices haven’t been, shall we say, high caliber. Nonetheless, he loves movies, so picking his top five choices is as difficult as picking your favorite food — depending on his mood, the order and selection changes. Recently, he revealed his favorite films with this stipulation, but even then, they seemed a bit out-of-the-ordinary for the Stifmeister. 

During a Reddit AMA on Wednesday, Scott was asked to name his top five favorite films. At the time, he said these were at the top of his head at the time of the question:

1. The Inheritance, directed by Per Fly

2. Talk to Her, directed by Pedro Almodóvar

3. Betty Blue, directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix

4. Open Hearts, Susanne Bier

5. Chopper, Andrew Dominik 

Who knew Stifler had such cinephilic tastes? All of these films are foreign selections and virtually unknown by your average moviegoer. The Inheritance (originally titled Arven) is a Danish film, starring Ulrich Thomsen (Mortdecai, Cinemax’s Banshee) as a man dealing with the death of his father and plagued by the pressure to take over the family business, despite his own desires. 

Almodóvar’s Talk to Her (Hable con ella) is another unexpected choice for a top five. The small Spanish film tells the tale of two men, Benigno and Marco, who form an unlikely bond as they both care for women in comatose states: Marco's girlfriend is a bullfighter gored by a bull, and the other is a ballet student in Benigno's care.

Betty Blue (37°2 le matin) is a film from 1986 that stars French actor Jean-Hugues Anglade as handyman Zorg. He’s living a pretty normal life, writing in his spare time, when a beautiful woman walks into his life and brings her crazy with it. After the honeymoon stage, he sees her unleash her insanity, setting fire to his home, stabbing other women with forks and throwing paint on cars. 

A Dogme 95 film, Open Hearts from Denmark is more of a lovers' triangle (or, rather, square) pic. After a man is paralyzed in a car accident, his engagement begins to fall apart as his fiance falls for the husband of the woman who caused the accident. This one has Mads Mikkelsen in it, so at least there's one familiar face. 

But out of all of these picks, Williams said that Chopper, an Australian film, is one of his favorites. Eric Bana plays Mark Brandon "Chopper" Read, a criminal who famously wrote his autobiography while in prison. The result, "From the Inside," served as the basis for the film. 

When you think of Scott, you think of his first feature film, American Pie, followed by films like Road Trip, Dude, Where's My Car?, The Dukes of Hazzard and Goon. It's good to know his interests expand beyond the realm of raunchy comedy. 

Finnish director Renny Harlin was once a heavy hitter in Hollywood with hits like Die Hard 2: Die Harder and Cliffhanger to his name. Then came the one-two punch of Cutthroat Island and The Long Kiss Goodnight, action vehicles for his then-wife Geena Davis that both flopped hard at the box office despite being pretty damn fun. Since then, Harlin has been fighting hard with a wide array of attempts to win back his old reputation. At long last, he might have the project that can get him there.

THR reports Renny Harlin is in negotiations to direct Skiptrace, a Jackie Chan vehicle that will co-star Seann William Scott. Should he sign on, he'd be replacing ParaNorman director Sam Fell, who was set to make his first live-action feature here. Produced by Chinese companies Talent International Film Co. and Dasym Entertainment, it's not a Hollywood production, but with a cast that includes these two plus Chinese star Fan Bingbing, this action-comedy seems instantly primed for big numbers in China, a feat that appeals to Hollywood big time. The film's distribution rights are now up for sale at the Cannes Film Market.

Skiptrace is based on an idea by Jackie Chan, and its screenplay currently boasts credits by BenDavid Grabinski (Cost of Living), Jay Longino (Bachelore Party 2: The Last Temptation), Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood (The Sitter). Chan will star as Benny Black, a good cop whose lovely niece (Fan Bingbing) runs afoul of a crime syndicated Benny has long been looking to bring down. But to rescue her, Benny must turn to the only man who can track her down, a fast-talking American gambler (Seann William Scott). Together the two will travel to Hong Kong and take it by storm.

This formula of comedic star + Jackie Chan has worked well before. Aside from Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2, Chan's highest-grossing American efforts where Rush Hour 1, 2 and 3, in which he teamed with loudmouth comedian Chris Tucker, and Shanghai Noon/Shanghai Knights, which paired him with affable goofball Owen Wilson. The English-language Skiptrace is clearly trying to recapture this level of success in America, while Fan Bingbing's inclusion will help its box office appeal in China. On paper, it's primed for success in the U.S. and China, but can Harlin make it happen?

Earlier this year he was poised for a potential comeback with the sword and sandals actioner The Legend of Hercules. But the Kellan Lutz-fronted vehicle bit it at the box office bringing in just $18 million domestic on a $70 mil production, plus a cringe-worthy 3% on Rotten Tomatoes critic meter. Frankly, with a failure that flagrant, it's surprising he's being considered for Skiptrace. But if he nails it, it could mean a renaissance not just for him, but also for Jackie Chan, who has ceaselessly been churning out movies, but Stateside has been relegated to kids' movies like The Spy Next Door and The Karate Kid.

Skiptrace is set to roll into production this August.

When Jeremy Renner was cast as the lead in The Bourne Legacy last week, I was surprised not only because it will be his third on-going franchise, but because I learned that he is 40 years old. Not only could he pass for being in his late 20s-early 30s, but it's amazing that it's taken this long for him to get the notice he deserves. As a result, it's understandable that he would want to start taking on as many projects as he can. Fortunately, this one only requires him to stand in a sound booth for a few hours.

THR reports that Renner, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, Aziz Ansari And hip-hop star Drake have all been added to the cast of Ice Age: Continental Drift, the third sequel in the long running series. The story also says Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott and Josh Peck will all be back to reprise their roles from the previous films. While character details have not been released for all of the new actors, Renner will be playing " Gutt, a self-styled master of the high seas" (it doesn't say what kind of animal), while Lopez will play Shira, a sabretooth tiger who will serve as a romantic interest for Diego, Leary's character. The film is scheduled to be released on July 13, 2012.

Much like the Shrek franchise before it, the Ice Age movies have been getting worse and worse with each sequel, so I wonder if this is the one that finally drives it straight into the ground. Considering that it seems as though they're adding six new characters to an over-crowded cast, I'd say that it's a safe bet.

Eugene Levy is one of those actors whose performance is entirely dependent upon what particular film he's in that week. Like a cocky high school soccer team he always plays down to his competition, but when the material is there, or at the very least Christopher Guest is involved, you can count of him for a few funny scenes. Or at least that's what the new Jay Baruchel/ Evan Goldberg comedy Goon is hoping for.

According to Variety, the hockey flick which already boasts Seann William Scott and Liev Schreiber is filming up in Winnipeg, and Eugene Levy has just signed on to play a yet-to-be-revealed part. The story, based on a similarly titled memoir, follows a brawler who unexpected joins a local minor league hockey team and finds near instant success, at least until the league's resident goon comes gunning for him.

I'm torn. While I have to support nearly any film made about hockey on principle (because hockey is awesome), I'm a little concerned because Slap Shot, the greatest sports movie of all-time, also charts the story of minor league brawlers. Still with an excellent cast and a screenplay penned by Seth Rogae's writing partner, I will certainly go out of my way to find Goon when it shows up in theaters.

Seann William Scott is pretty much the best thing about Cop Out, and that's saying a lot given that it's movie featuring Tracy Morgan, Bruce Willis, Adam Brody, Susie Essman, Kevin Pollack and many more bringing the funny. It's Scott's loose, almost unhinged energy that does it, giving him room to steal every scene he's in whether Bruce Willis likes it or not.

Scott brought that same energy to our interview with him on Sunday, explaining without much prompting how he was the Keyser Soze of high school, what caused his earlier film Mr. Woodcock to flop, and yes, suggesting that he'd be perfect to play Jack Skellington in a Broadway version of Nightmare Before Christmas-- a play that no one seems to actually be planning. "I want to do that on Broadway, [playing] Jack Skellington. Because I grew up singing. I'm a much better singer than actor, which doesn't really say a whole lot. But that would be an incredible musical. I'm actually going to record myself for Tim Burton."

When asked if Burton was actually planning the play, Scott quickly explained, "No, he's not doing it. He should though. I sing a lot like Danny Elfman's voice in that. I think that would be an awesome."

So there you have it-- if anyone ever actually does start trying to make this musical happen, there's at least one Hollywood actor who will be first in line. Read below for the rest of our interview with Scott. Cop Out opens this Friday.

We heard it was you improvising that back of the cop car scene.

Oh just repeating him? Yeah. It's a ripoff. Everybody does it. In Tommy Boy, Chris Farley basically repeats him. "You're the one that's got shell on it." He just repeats as a comeback what David Spade says, because he can't think of anything else. That was my inspiration. I wish there was a smarter backstory to it.

It's a schoolyard thing.

Yeah. I think I'm getting the chance to be more of the fun high schooler by doing these movies. When I was in high school I was a super serious athlete. I wasn't fun at all. I was fun with my friends. I did instigate a lot of bad things ,and never got in trouble. I was kind of the Keyser Soze of the group. But now I'm getting a chance to be an absolute idiot, and I'm 33.

It's kind of a stoner character too.

Yeah, I know. I never did that in high school. I did party a little bit like 5 years ago. Not party, party-- my publicist is going to be mad at that. I went through a bit of stoner phase. Everybody has that, right?

I'm the only person who enjoyed Mr. Woodcock--

You did? Dude, you're not the only one. You know who else did? Gerard Butler. I worked with him and Brett Ratner and [Johnny] Knoxville. It's a cool movie with all these awesome actors, all short films. I was so excited to meet him. I love that guy. But he saw Woodcock. He thanked me for it, dude! I was like, 'What? You're the only person I've ever met who saw that movie, except for my mom.' And you! That's great.

But you played an adult character, and it showed!

Thank you. We had such a tough time on that. We did a reshoot for a month with a different director. It should have been rated R I think.

Are you trying to go for more adult roles?

There's not that many good things out there. Even in the comedy world, it's tough. You've got a whole new crop of guys now, the guys from The Hangover, they're on fire. I've got to wait until those guys pass up some movies. It's really competitive. I try to make the best of the opportunities that have been given to me. And of course I hope to have the kind of success to make the right decisions to get to a place so I can do films--. I love this film, I'm very proud of it, but I'd like to do more eclectic films, the kind I tend to sit at home and watch.

Kevin said he was intimidated by Bruce for the first few weeks. What was your relationship like with him and Tracy?

I had never met them before. I met Tracy briefly actually, I hosted Saturday Night Live in 2001. Back then, I was like, 'This guy is going to be a big movie star.' I think he deserves to be at the top. I was definitely intimidated. I was so glad I was sitting in the back of the car. I kept watching Bruce Willis. Even now it just blows my mind. That's all I do is sit home and watch movies. I still can't believe it.

Do you think you'd ever like to do something onstage?

I have an idea. You know what my dream is? The Nightmare Before Christmas, I want to do that on Broadway, [playing] Jack Skellington. Because I grew up singing. I'm a much better singer than actor, which doesn't really say a whole lot. But that would be an incredible musical. I'm actually going to record myself for Tim Burton.

Is he actually planning this?

No, he's not doing it. He should though. I sing a lot like Danny Elfman's voice in that. I think that would be an awesome.

It was only last week that the return of American Pie was confirmed. The raunch-comedy classic is headed back to theaters, with a relaunch of the franchise as something more than a series of increasingly awful direct-to-DVD films. That means they’ll almost certainly be courting the original cast and, now it looks like at least one of them is already in talks to do join up.

Seann William Scott, who played Stifler in all three theatrically released American Pie movies (but wisely avoided the horrible straight-to-DVD versions), tells Coming Soon he’s in talks to return for the new Pie film. Typecasting? He doesn’t seem to mind. Stifler says, “We came up with an awesome idea and I'm kind of at the point where I'm already known as that character forever anyways.”

If they can get Seann William Scott, then landing far less busy American Pie alums like Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, or Shannon Elizabeth shouldn’t be a problem. Come to think of it, despite a lot of initial buzz over all of them, almost none of the American Pie cast has really amounted to much of anything. Alyson Hannigan and Seann William Scott are the sole exceptions to their overall abysmal career performance and really Hannigan is the only one who might even remotely have better things to do. Actually I hope she has better things to do. Alyson, you’re so much better than this now. Stick with How I Met Your Mother, you don’t need it.
