New York City native Cardi B thrilled fans in attendance at the Knicks game last night with a halftime performance. Most of her short set wasn’t broadcast on ESPN, as the network showed analysis from the Inside The NBA crew, but the brief cut-in they did do ended up being the most viral moment from the entire game, as Charles Barkley’s quip about her “Cardi Ds” resulted in extended laughter and host Ernie Johnson making it clear he was not the one who said it.

The back-and-forth sequence, which also featured some comments from Shaquille O’Neal, was quickly clipped by several popular Twitter accounts, and almost immediately, it was everywhere. Some users shared it because they enjoyed the comments. Inside The NBA has been, by a very wide margin, the most talked about studio show in sports for decades. A typical episode features moderator Ernie Johnson, along with Barkley, Shaq and Kenny Smith. The runtime varies depending on the game and what they’re doing, but a typical episode would see them go on at halftime for a brief segment and then go on again after the game to provide post-game analysis. Sometimes they’re also joined by other NBA legends who might come on as special guests or even current players who might stop by for an interview.

The analysis is always strong, as Barkley, Shaq and Kenny are all highly regarded former NBA players with thoughtful things to say, but the real reason the show has been on the air for decades is because the guys have fantastic chemistry and never pull any punches. Barkley and Shaq especially are willing to say whatever pops in their heads. Usually that results in them dunking on players for bonehead plays and mistakes they made during the game (or entire teams), but like we saw last night, it also sometimes results in them dunking on each other or going way off topic (like when they got family photos done).

There was great concern across the sports world last year that Inside The NBA was going to say its final goodbye. TNT, the show’s longtime home, lost the rights to broadcast NBA games, but after a national outcry, ESPN decided to pick the entire crew up and use them for their broadcast team. There was some grumbling about the network cutting back their schedule and some initial concerns about whether the team would be muzzled, but as this entire exchange about Cardi B illustrates, ESPN has mostly just let them do their thing.

As for Cardi B herself, she was clearly amused by the entire thing. She retweeted a video of Barkley’s comments, as well as a screenshot of her trending on social media during the game. She also posted pictures in courtside seats with her son, who seemed to be having a great time.

They were joined by an arsenal of celebrities including President Trump, Ben Stiller, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Spike Lee, Fat Joe, Timothée Chalamet, John McEnroe, Mariska Hargitay and many more. They were all hoping to see the Knicks get one step closer to their first NBA Championship in over fifty years. The team wound up losing a close game, but they still hold a 2-1 lead over the San Antonio Spurs. Game 4 is on Wednesday night and will offer Barkley and company some more time with a live microphone to say whatever they want to say.

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley have been friends for years now and, with that, the two basketball legends having a bit of fun with each other every now and then. That fun usually manifests itself through trolling and practical jokes and, like so many people, I find it very entertaining. While most of their antics unfold on Inside the NBA (on which they’re both co-hosts), there are instances in which their faux feud spills into other occasions. For instance, O’Neal just straight-up trolled Barkley while accepting a degree.

Anytime I refer to Shaq now, I may have to address him by that full name, Shaquille “I Hate Charles Barkley” O’Neal. Seriously, though, this is the kind of trolling I appreciate, and I love that Shaq’s (fake) disdain for Barkley can even seep into an academic-related event. Quite frankly, I can’t think of a better stage on which the former Los Angeles Laker could’ve taken a fun shot at his longtime friend. On that note, I’d love to hear Barkley’s response to that joke.

I’m going to have to add this to the list of the best instances in which either Shaq or Sir Charles have made fun of each other. And believe me when I say there have been some great instances of that over the years.

How have Barkley and O’Neal trolled each other over the years, you might ask? Let me count the ways. For instance, Shaq previously confirmed that he was inspired to lose weight because he thought he was developing a “Charles Barkley retirement body.” Also, Barkley roasted O’Neal during an episode of Inside when the four-time NBA champion had to leave the set in the middle of a broadcast to use the bathroom. And, on a separate occasion, Shaq reiterated his “hate” for Barkley while addressing a restaurant-related rumor on The View.

Needless to say, these back-and-forth runs deep, but the two basketball hall of farmers also occasionally share some sweet moments that drive home the point that they’re truly close. To that point, Shaq previously opened up about his relationship with Barkley, saying that the ex-Phoenix Sun is like a “bigger brother” to him. So, in my mind, if you can’t joke about and troll a quasi-sibling, then who can you do that to?

If anything, I’m just glad Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley remain close and can make humorous jokes at each other’s expense without it getting personal. That aside, serious congratulations are in order for Shaq for getting his latest Master’s Degree. Here’s hoping Barkley surprises him with a wild graduation gift when he returns to the Inside the NBA set to cover the rest of the playoffs.

The NBA playoffs have a dark cloud hanging over them as the league mourns the loss of two impactful players from the league's past and present. Jason Collins and Brandon Clarke passed away, and Inside the NBA's Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal got candid about what these losses meant both for them and the league.

ESPN reported that Collins, the NBA's first openly gay player, died of brain cancer at 47 on Tuesday. The same day, AP News and others reported Clarke's death, after the 29-year-old forward for the Memphis Grizzlies was found at his home on Monday. The former athletes had a lot to say about both and spoke to their connection to both.

Charles Barkley may be known for some of his wild statements and disparaging comments about San Antonio, but he has a solid track record as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. Charles Barkley Had An Emotional Response To Brandon Clarke's Death

While Brandon Clarke's official cause of death has not been released, AP reported that drug paraphernalia was found within the home, leading to speculation that his death was the result of an overdose. It struck a reaction from Barkley, who lost his younger brother Daryl in 2009 after years of battling a cocaine addiction:

Grace was active on X since the post first went viral, and as the Inside The NBA clip made rounds, she had to share her take on the exchange with Shaquille O'Neal. Based on this, it didn't seem like she appreciated Shaq's offer, and she seems to be glad that her fifteen minutes of fame in the NBA are winding down:

She wasn't so much upset about Shaq offering to buy a ring, as he's been known to spend a lot of money, but rather in the way the offer was presented. I'm not sure the Inside The NBA co-host will appreciate the way he was described, especially so soon after he had to dispute claims he was in Sabrina Carpenter's DM's saying wild stuff.

I think the context of the situation is important, and by her own admission, Grace does not seem to be an avid follower of sports. As such, she's probably unfamiliar with the overall brash conversation that occurs on Inside The NBA, or when other hosts like Charles Barkley landed in hot water for their behavior.

All this to say, I don't think Shaquille O'Neal meant to intentionally embarrass the couple and put them on the spot on national television. I would imagine there's been some sort of response to that, which probably prompted Grace to speak out about it.

With the NBA regular season winding down on the 2026 TV schedule, there's only a handful of Inside The NBA episodes left for the current season as it heads into the playoffs. Fortunately for Shaq, the Indiana Pacers finished the season with one of the worst records in the NBA, so he won't have to worry about catching criticism from anyone from that fandom should he be doing more fan interviews.

We'll see when Inside The NBA returns to ESPN during the 2026 playoffs. Hopefully, we'll see a lot of them during the next series of games, as Charles Barkley and others have expressed how upset they were about their schedule during the season.

Shaq recently caught up with Today’s Craig Melvin for an episode of the latter’s Glass Half Full podcast. The pair tackled various topics pertaining to O’Neal’s career and personal life. Melvin eventually touched upon the dynamics that Shaq has with Charles Barkley as well as his fellow Inside hosts, Johnson and Kenny “The Jet” Smith. The four-time NBA champion shared his thoughts on the reasons for the show’s vibe and success:

I’d certainly agree that each team member of Inside the NBA (which debuted on TNT in 2989) brings something to the table that contributes to the show’s success. A member of the panel since 2011, O’Neal seems to appreciate all of his colleagues, including Barkley, who he has a warm relationship with despite their occasional quarrels on TV. During his recent interview (which is on YouTube), Shaq also shared this sweet tidbit about Johnson:

That’s some serious praise, considering the laughs that Shaq and Barkley can generate during a given episode of Inside. I don’t doubt the Los Angeles Lakers legend’s claim, though, considering Johnson does get in on the humorous antics that occur on set and drops a good one-liner here and there. In many respects, I’d argue Johnson (who’s called “The Godfather” by his peers) is the unsung hero of the show, as he not only delivers the news but also serves as a self-proclaimed “rogue traffic cop” when reining in his co-hosts’ antics.

Collectively, Shaquille O’Neal and his co-hosts – along with their behind-the-scenes crew – have contributed to some truly entertaining TV over the years. It’s for that reason that so many were out of sorts when it seemed the show might get canceled. There are those who’ve expressed dissatisfaction with Inside’s new schedule on ESPN, which the network head suggested will be rectified for its next season. Let’s hope that’s the case so that fans will get to see more of Shaq, Ernie Johnson and co. on the air as time goes on.

The next episode of Inside the NBA will hit ESPN on Sunday, April 12 amid the 2026 TV schedule, and be aware that coverage from Shaq and the gang will ramp up once the playoffs start.

Inside the NBA has been on ESPN for several months now and, so far, the beloved sports show’s format has remained relatively unchanged. What has been different, however, is the frequency by which the show airs, as it no longer drops on a weekly basis like it did on TNT. After the schedule was initially released, fans expressed their discontent over there being fewer broadcasts during the final months of 2025. Some viewers are still less than pleased and, meanwhile, co-host Shaquille O’Neal is revealing why he likes the change.

The latest season of Inside premiered on ESPN near the end of October 2025 and, between then and last December, only five broadcasts were scheduled. At present, the show is set to return in late January amid the 2026 TV schedule. It’s more than apparent that lately, fans haven’t been able to see Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaq together on air as much. Shaq, who previously sought to ease concerns, addressed the changes while speaking with Sports Illustrated, and he sees a silver lining to this change:

What seems to appeal to The Diesel here is the notion of Inside having the opportunity to distance itself amid a flooded sports media market. Shaq also believes that those absences will also prop up excitement for the remainder of the show’s season, which will see the team cover the postseason. And, this year, said coverage will also include the NBA Finals, which has been an exciting prospect. It sounds like the Los Angeles Lakers legend is definitely pumped, and he doubled down on his sentiments:

Fans are now seeing “the boys” on Disney’s flagship sports network at all due to TNT’s parent company (Warner Bros. Discovery) losing the broadcast rights to the NBA in 2024. After that, it seemed Inside the NBA would be canceled, and Charles Barkley was particularly vocal about how displeased he was with his employers’ handling of the matter. Eventually, WBD inked a multi-year licensing agreement with ESPN to keep Inside on the air, beginning with the 2025-2026 TV season.

Viewers may also be pleased to hear that Inside’s broadcast schedule could change moving forward. ESPN head honcho Burke Magnus recently explained that the main goal for this season was simply to acquire the show and that the light first half of the schedule was due to a contractual provision from Turner Broadcasting. That aside, Magnus expressed confidence that after this inaugural season, he and his colleagues can look into adding more regularity for the show.

In the interim though, fans can at least look forward to a far greater number of Inside the NBA episodes as the postseason approaches. Shaq’s recent comments give me the impression that he’ll be revved up and ready to go when it’s time to get in front of the cameras again. The show returns to ESPN on January 24.

Back in August, it was confirmed that Inside’s new season would hit ESPN on October 22 following the network’s first NBA game doubleheader of the season. What gave fans pause, though, was the fact that the show would only air from 12:05 to 12:35 a.m. ET, which is shorter than the 50-minute slot the show had on its former network. Additionally, after the show airs once more after the October 23 doubleheader (along with NBA Tip-Off) that night, another broadcast of the series won’t be set until the Christmas Day coverage.

Fans quickly took to X to share their discontent, with some users declaring the show was ruined and others using emojis to express their dismay. Sports reporter Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson recently asked Shaquille O’Neal about how he was adjusting to the change in schedule. That led Shaq to share a response that may soothe those who are still on the fence about the change:

As of this writing, officials from ESPN have yet to back up the basketball hall of famer’s comments. The chances of him sharing inaccurate information, given he’s one of the major names associated with Inside, would be weird, though. Nevertheless, this does greatly contrast with the update that was initially shared on the schedule. We’ll have to wait and see what definitely ends up panning out, but the notion of one to two shows theoretically being produced is a relief.

One of Shaq’s colleagues, Charles Barkley, hasn’t held back his thoughts about Inside the NBA being moved to a new network. What Barkley appreciates about the situation is that a number of his colleagues’ jobs were ultimately saved. However, “Sir Charles” has also had various questions about his schedule and how often he’ll be working moving forward. Even before that, Barkley took TNT to task, as he didn’t think the execs were forthcoming about Inside’s fate before the ESPN deal was made.

Nevertheless, it’s been made clear that Barkley, O’Neal, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith will all be at their posts when Inside returns to the airwaves. What I’m just hoping is that the show will remain “special” as Shaq claimed and won’t be relegated to shorter timeslots and infrequent airings as that schedule indicated.

Did you know that NBA icon and massive tipper Shaquille O’Neal is a Superman fan? From having the Man of Steel’s ’S’ shield tattooed on his arm because he was nicknamed Superman out on the court, to playing supporting Superman character John Henry Irons in Steel (even though that ended up not being tied to the comics), the basketball player goes way back with the Kryptonian superhero. So while I’m sure fans of Shaq get frazzled when they see him out in the world, it’s nice to hear he nerded out on a similar level while visiting the set of the 2025 movie release Superman.

CinemaBlend learned that Shaq stopped by the Fortress of Solitude setup while speaking with the Superman production designer, Beth Mickle. She took him on a tour around Superman’s Arctic getaway personally, as this was the place where “VIP guests” and friends and family would be taken as the DCU’s first theatrical installment was filming. Mickle recalled to us:

Since Shaquille O’Neal was born in 1972, it’s a good bet he saw the Christopher Reeve Superman movies in his younger years, and the Fortress of Solitude was an especially integral location in the 1978 flick that made us believe a man could fly. So it’s completely understandable he’d be wowed by the Fortress of Solitude set and want to touch one of its trademark crystals. Even if someone who wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about Superman got to see the Fortress firsthand, it can still be admired purely as a technical achievement.

As it turns out, Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t the only notable individual who visited the Superman set on that particular day of filming, which was already special to Beth Mickle for more personal reasons. She laid out:

This big day for Beth Mickle came a little over a month into Superman’s principal photography, and cameras stopped rolling on July 30, 2024. In addition to the aforementioned Steel, Shaq also has DC cred from voicing himself in an episode of Static Shock, which was set in the DC Animated Universe. Since James Gunn is plotting an entire Superman saga for the DCU, maybe it can be arranged for Shaq to cameo in one of these upcoming DC movies.

For now, Superman can purchased digitally as its theatrical run starts to wind down. After meeting Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El at the end of this movie, we’ll see Kal-El’s cousin take center stage when Supergirl comes out on June 26, 2026. There are many reasons why Shaquille O’Neal was considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time. So that’s how you mic a 7-foot-1-inch legend! I never would have guessed that it involved climbing up a step ladder. Then again, I’m pretty short myself, so I’d probably have to do the same thing to try to reach up to Shaquille O'Neal.

As funny as the video is, one of the most endearing parts of it is seeing Shaquille O’Neal put his hand on the back of the CBS employee so she wouldn’t fall. After all, we wouldn't want to any accidents to occur when mic-ing up a gentle giant. O'Neal's assistance furthers the notion that he's a true team player and that there’s always room for kindness -- and a sturdy step stool.

Shaq is absolutely self-aware when it comes to his height. Considering what a recognizable figure he is, he actually had to hide behind trees to thwart the paparazzi. In a viral TikTok video, O’Neal even revealed some of the things he’s too tall to do, like scuba diving or skydiving. Of course, there are clear benefits to his stature, as the NBA Rookie of the Year recipient won championships with the help of his imposing physique.

Even in a world of tall celebrities, Shaq has proved on many occasions that he could tower over many of them. For example, Will Smith always thought his 6-foot-2-inch frame made him very tall until he compared himself to the former Miami Heat player. (Yeah, I’m afraid that wouldn’t even be a close competition.) Even former wrestler Dwayne Johnson’s height couldn’t match O’Neal’s. I think it’s safe to say that the retired NBA center stands above them all.

I, for one, am glad that I now know how Shaquille O’Neal has to be mic'ed up. While it may be a small detail on the surface, it further humanizes one of the greatest athletes to ever step foot on a basketball court.

Parker recently (and humorously) recalled what happened, and it sounds like something out of a TV show.

Next to his Inside the NBA co-host, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal may be one of the most eccentric personalities in sports media (and possibly pop culture as a whole). He’s long discussed his love of being a DJ, a gig that he says gives him the same kind of “adrenaline boost” that a championship game provides him with. That’s not the only way O’Neal produces music, as he’s also a rapper – and considers himself to be the GOAT amongst players who've gotten into the business.

Shaq may have a tendency to blast loud music and engage in wild, on-air antics, but he’s also known for being fun and generous. When it comes to his generosity, the 15-time NBA All-Star recently tipped a server $1,000 while visiting a restaurant in Texas. He’s also been known to engage in other acts of kindness, with paying the bill for an entire eatery or buying a kid some shoes. So there are plenty of layers to the gregarious former center.

Candace Parker won’t be working with Shaquille O’Neal moving forward, as she’ll serve as a game and studio analyst for Prime Video starting this fall. The man also known as “The Diesel” visited The Original Ninfa’s Uptown, which is located in Houston and is a long-standing establishment that’s highly regarded for its Mexican food. According to CultureMap Houston, Shaq stopped by the eatery for lunch, and it seems he made quite the impression on the staff and fellow patrons. Not only did the businessman opt to eat alongside other customers instead of sitting in a private room, but he also posed for pictures. On top of that, the 15-time All-Star tipped his server a whopping $1,000.

A gesture like that is incredibly generous, and that’s not all Shaq did while at The Original Ninfa’s. The four-time NBA champion also paid for the meal of another table of customers that was sitting nearby. All of this certainly tracks for Shaq, who previously paid the bill for an entire restaurant while out on a date. He also followed that up by donating to money that would benefit those impacted by the supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York in 2022. Shaq even notably paid for a pair of shoes for a child he crossed paths with at a mall.

The fact that Shaquille O’Neal provided his server with such a massive tip is just so awesome. Of course, I’m also not surprised at all that the longtime broadcaster also did something cheeky while at the restaurant. Executive chef Patti Delgado was the one who delivered O’Neal’s three crispy tacos to him and, in a statement shared with CultureMap, she revealed how O’Neal had a bit of fun with her:

Shaquille O’Neal’s personality is, of course, certainly on display whenever he’s on Inside the NBA, the talk show he’s been a co-host of for nearly 15 years now. His and Charles Barkley’s antics are top-tier and serve as a major draw for the show. Thankfully, those shenanigans will continue when the show returns this fall for its first season on ESPN. O’Neal’s return is definitely assured, given that he inked a massive TV deal to remain with the program for the remainder of the 2025 TV schedule and beyond.

There’s still plenty of time left before Shaq returns to the air alongside his cohorts, and I’m curious as to what else he has planned for the summer. Personally, I’d love to hear more stories that illustrate his generosity and humor similar to his trip to The Original Ninfa’s Uptown.

One of the biggest reasons why Inside the NBA has been so successful for so long is that it features a dais of highly entertaining personalities. That panel is made up of Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley. All four men have great, on-screen chemistry and compliment each other quite well. Someone could compare them to a humorous (and sometimes raucous) orchestra. However, Smith likened himself and his cohorts to specific boxing veterans, and his take is so on point.

Kenny Smith has been a member of the Inside cast for over two decades now, and the show’s current lineup of hosts has been intact for 14 years now. So, needless to say, Smith is more than familiar with the three men who sit at the table with him. The former Houston Rocket recently sat down with The New Yorker for a wide-ranging interview about his life and career. When it came to describing his co-stars on the beloved (former) TNT show, Smith laid it like so:

The notion of three former basketball players being compared to boxing legends may be somewhat ironic. However, I can’t think of a better way to sum up all four of Inside the NBA’s hosts. Charles Barkley says some wild things and, in the process, he can deliver some verbal haymakers, but Shaquille O’Neal is a heavyweight in his own right and can deliver a serious blow. The notion of Ernie Johnson (who’s compared himself to a “rogue traffic cop”) is also fitting, as he does indeed make attempts to clean up any boo boos on set.

Kenny Smith is also correct in comparing himself to the scrappy Sugar Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather. He may not go for the proverbial knockout like his co-stars, but he can wear someone down with information. So this all begs one question: who tends to bleed the most? Smith answered that very query when it was posed to him later in the conversation:

The Diesel does indeed put himself through quite a bit on set, as he’s been shoved into many Christmas trees in his time. Of course, he does it for viewers’ amusement, and the feat is appreciated whenever it happens. The same is also true of Shaq and Charles Barkley’s humorous antics, which often go viral. All in all, the Inside crew have a special bond (and they have the coordinating holiday shirts and photoshoot to prove it).

As of late, there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether the quartet’s famous show will maintain its format and style due to its impending move to ESPN. Charles Barkley expressed concerns about what’s to come and, during his recent interview, even Kenny Smith admitted to being “uncomfortable” about potential format changes. Nevertheless, insiders claim the show won’t be changed, and Smith himself believes the program “will translate” accordingly.

Hopefully, Kenny Smith’s prediction proves to be correct, considering how entertaining the show has been in its current form. I don’t know about you but I’m ready to see more of Smith and co. duking it in the proverbial boxing ring that is Inside the NBA.

When you’re Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, you’re used to being the biggest guy on the 2025 movie schedule, and, in almost every case, the biggest in the room. But even the past and present People's Champion knows when to bow down to a real giant. And, just recently, he did just that with a smile (and a jab at Kevin Hart). That’s right, The Rock met up with Shaq, and the former WWE star couldn’t help but take the opportunity to troll his Jumanji co-star.

In a series of photos posted by Shaquille O’Neal on Instagram, the NBA legend shared a backstage moment with The Rock and a guest at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. What stood out? The sheer size difference. Standing next to Shaq, Johnson looked almost, dare we say, average-sized. Naturally, the wrestler turned Hollywood a-lister took it like a champ—and turned it into the perfect opportunity to roast his longtime friend in the comments:

It’s classic Rock-and-Kevin (KRock?). The two have built an entire side career out of hilariously trolling each other across social media, interviews and other press events Whether it’s Johnson mocking Hart’s height or Hart teasing the Black Adam star’s action movies and bald head or “presidential energy,” the back-and-forth has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved celebrity bromances (And some even think it's a conspiracy.)

But this latest social media moment also highlighted something else: just how massive Shaquille O’Neal is. At over 7 feet tall and weighing in at over 300 pounds, the former Lakers star dwarfed both Johnson and his companion. It’s no surprise the box office titan felt compelled to crack a joke. When even a 6’5”, 260-pound action hero looks like a fun-sized version of himself, there’s really only one way to handle it: cracking jokes.

To his credit, the Rampage actor has always been great at mixing self-deprecation with star power. Promoting a billion-dollar franchise or dropping a tequila brand, The Rock never misses the chance to laugh at himself or drag his buddy Hart into the punchline.

So, now, the ball is in the Ride Along star’s court. Given his reputation for roasting the Fast & Furious alum in return, there's at least a firm chance that a comeback is imminent. One of RuPaul’s Drag Race’s biggest winners, Trixie and ride or die fellow queen, Katya, have taken the world by storm together. After meeting on season 7, they quickly went on their way to make creative projects together, starting with their viral cult followed series, UNHhhh, to their aptly titled pod. It’s a lot of the same banter, just funneled into discussing pop culture and Tinseltown-leaning topics.

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal’s dynamic makes for one of the most entertaining aspects of Inside the NBA. For years now, the two have shared laughs together on air and traded verbal jabs from time to time. The two share a kinship, though, which was established during their days as NBA players. O’Neal was recently asked about his relationship with Barkley and had no problem sharing love for him. At the same time, the Magic-turned-Lakers player also shared a funny story involving his mother and Barkley’s mom as well.

It goes without saying that the aforementioned hall-of-fame basketball veterans are both larger-than-life personalities, which makes it so entertaining whenever they do clash. Ryan Clark is aware of the dynamic between Shaq and “Chuck” as well as how they interact with their Inside co-hosts, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith. Clark went on to flat-out ask if he likes Barkely. The Diesel confirmed that he does like his on-screen partner, who actually makes Shaq remember one thing he doesn’t have:

Despite that, Shaquille O’Neal went on to explain during the interview (a portion of which is on X) that he and Charles Barkley have come to blows before. O’Neal illustrated that by recalling one particularly iconic in-game skirmish, which took place in 1999. At the time, Barkley was playing for the Houston Rockets, while O’Neal was with the Lakers. The brawl began after Barkley threw a ball at O’Neal, who got him with a hard foul. That’s what viewers saw on TV, but what they didn’t see was how their moms intervened after Shaq retaliated:

The four-time NBA champion went on to say that Charles Barkley had also spoken to his mother by that point. So when Shaq and Barkley later met in the hallway, all they could do was laugh in regard to the fact that they share the “mama’s boy” title. Both men have certainly found common ground since then. They’ve participated in numerous antics on Inside the NBA to the point where a viral Shaq/Barkley clip circulated when it seemed the show would be canceled. On top of that, the two motivate each other, with O’Neal joking that he realized he needed to lose weight after gaining a physique similar to Barkley’s.

Put simply, there are too many great moments between the two to even mention. From Shaq chastising Chuck about not knowing what it means to “slide into the DMs” to Barkley roasting the big man for needing to use the bathroom amid a telecast, there’s a lot of history here. They have a firm relationship, which Shaq went on to perfectly sum up:

You’d be hard-pressed to find two people who seem to have as close a bond as Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal. As a fan of both of them, I’m hopeful that their relationship will continue to endure. I also hope to see that dynamic manifest even more on Inside the NBA, which will return this fall amid the 2025 TV schedule.

One of the reasons that the trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs has been of such interest is that the accusations surround activities that allegedly took place alongside some of the massive celebrity-filled parties that Diddy was known for throwing. With that being the case, many have expected the names of celebs to feature during the trial, but that’s not happening in the way we’ve expected, as Michael Jordan and two other NBA legends were recently namechecked in testimony in an unexpected way.

The focus of the latest week of testimonies has centered on the accuser using the pseudonym “Jane,” an ex-girlfriend of Diddy’s who has claimed to have direct knowledge of the alleged “freak off” parties that are the focus of the sexual assault and racketeering charges he's facing. One of the more unusual revelations to surface surrounds the nicknames that Diddy allegedly used for himself, Jane, and a male escort that Jane says she regularly had sex with at Diddy’s request.

How Michael Jordan’s Name Came Up At Diddy’s Trial

According to Jane (via the Daily Mail), Diddy would call the three of them the “trifecta,” and also used NBA stars as inspiration for nicknames for the three of them. Diddy himself was Michael Jordan, Jane was Kobe Bryant, while the escort was called Shaq.

The Daily Mail acquired images of Kobe Bryant attending Diddy’s 50th birthday party in 2020, while also noting that the rapper performed at a Super Bowl weekend event that same year, which was hosted by Shaq. So it appears that two of the three NBA stars mentioned ran in the same circles as Diddy.

However, whether Diddy and Michael Jordan knew each other is unclear. The primary NBA player whose name has come up in association with Diddy is Lebron James, though there have been no accusations of wrongdoing where that athlete is concerned, either.

How Other Celebrities Have Factored Into Diddy’s Trial

This isn’t the first time that a celebrity’s name has appeared at Diddy’s trial in an unusual way. Eyebrows were raised earlier in the trial when Brad Pitt’s name came up during testimony. However, Pitt has never attended one of Diddy’s parties. The actor was mentioned due to an incident with Diddy and then girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, at the Cannes Film Festival, during the premiere of one of Pitt’s movies.

The biggest name to testify in court, outside of Cassie Ventura herself, is rapper Kid Cudi. Cudi testified regarding the firebombing of his car in 2012. The rapper believes Diddy orchestrated the attack due to the fact that Cudi had been dating Ventua at the time.

Considering the celebrities that are known to have been associated with Diddy, it’s likely we’ll be hearing even more famous names as the trial continues. However, as this shows, being referenced in court certainly is not an indication of any wrongdoing.

I’m thrilled it happened, though, and I’m overjoyed that this instance between the two and Jason Kelce can live rent-free in my head forever.

So, here’s the context: after a delightful episode of New Heights, the Kelce brothers were wrapping up their interview with Shaq. He paused them to say he “needed” to show them something. That something was “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift, and you can see how everyone reacted to this needle drop in the clip below:

There’s so much to love here! Shaq lip synching and jamming out to this classic Red track, iconic. Jason and Travis waiting to see what he was going to play, and then immediately dancing and smiling along with him, wonderful. I meant it earlier, this moment will live rent-free in my head for the foreseeable future, and I love that for me, Shaq, the Kelces, and everyone else who got to witness this.

I’ve seen my fair share of iconic moments from the basketball player, too. I also love seeing famous Swifties, like Flavor Flav, showing their love for the pop star. So, watching this hilarious basketball legend show his love and respect for Swift and her relationship was truly wonderful.

Now, as someone who covered the Eras Tour and saw videos of celebs like Emma Stone, Laura Dern and more dancing the night away at it, I have to wonder what Shaq would have thought of the experience. If I had to guess what would have happened, I’d bet he would have been standing right next to Travis, AKA, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs,” and showing the same level of enthusiasm he showed in the above clip.

Honestly, I bet he would have been down to get up and perform on that Eras Tour stage, like the tight end did last year, if Swift allowed it.

Truly, I already adored Shaq, however, I love him even more now. Him shamelessly sharing his favorite Taylor Swift song was wonderful, and knowing that he’s a Swiftie brings me immense joy. Now, the next time she goes on tour, we'd better see him in that VIP tent rocking out to his “favorite song in the world.”

Every episode, the panel of Inside The NBA gives us more reasons to be thankful that it will be back next season. For now, the crew remains on TNT as they discuss the ongoing NBA playoffs, when they aren't rushing to find the nearest restroom. Yes, unfortunately, Shaquille O'Neal had a bathroom emergency, and of course, Charles Barkley and others were roasting him as the Hall-of-Famer waddled off camera.

Kenny "The Jet" Smith was in the middle of talking about Kawhi Leonard when his co-host got up without explanation and started quickly making his way toward the studio exit. Just two months after hearing the most disgusting poop story involving Shaquille O'Neal, it seems he's getting some humiliating karma. Of all the people I'd hate to have something embarrassing happen around, Sir Charles Barkley might be the worst on the list. He's liable to say just about anything, even if cameras are rolling. The city of San Antonio knows this well, as well as Shaq, who likely knew he was going to get flamed the moment he stood up.

For those curious about what the "olive oil" trend the panel was talking about, this has been covered by Glamour and other websites raving about the health benefits of a shot of extra-virgin olive oil a day. Doing this for a week or two can allegedly improve heart health, reduce body inflammation, and, yes, digestion. I think we've seen the downsides of doing this, so be sure to always have access to a bathroom if you attempt this.

With every viral moment, Ernie Johnson's comment about being a "rogue traffic cop" on the show makes more sense. Inside The NBA frequently walks the line between being an analytical show about basketball and a free-for-all sideshow that covers everything from Drake's rap feuds to other notable happenings in pop culture.

As previously mentioned, Inside The NBA will leave TNT at the end of this season and split time between ESPN and ABC at the start of next season. For now, it seems the core lineup will remain intact, though fans have wondered if any other ESPN pundits like Stephen A. Smith, Kendrick Perkins, and more will join the fold and try to trade jabs with Shaq and Charles Barkley. I'm skeptical the networks won't want to try and disrupt the magic of the program, but we'll see what happens.

Continue to watch Inside The NBA on TNT as the NBA playoffs continue and we see who will become the champion this season. A lot of teams have a shot at the title, so don't be surprised if Shaq needs to take a few more impromptu bathroom breaks because he's too busy watching the games.

We Beat The Dream Team is a fantastic documentary about the college kids who were selected to practice against the greatest collection of NBA players ever, the first Dream Team in 1992. One player was missing from that team, and his absence then has led to his absence from the show... and it’s adding insult to injury. Shaquille O’Neal is one of the great players and one of the greatest personalities the NBA has ever seen, so it was a bummer when he wasn’t chosen as the lone college player to be included in that legendary lineup in 1992. Shaq didn’t play with the Select Team and I can’t help but think about how much more fun an already really fun documentary would be with the legendary Hall of Famer and broadcaster for Inside The NBA.

The Choice Of Christian Laettner Was Understandable But Frustrating

Shaq Wasn’t On The Select Team, So He Wasn't In The Documentary

For reasons only known to USA Basketball and O’Neal himself, he wasn’t one of the eight college players chosen to play as “crash test dummies” in the practices and scrimmages for the Dream Team before the Olympics in Barcelona. It’s likely a simple explanation, Shaq was on his way to the draft later in the same month so it didn’t make sense for him to be part of the team and risk injury or anything. Alonzo Mourning, another future Hall of Famer left off the Dream Team and Select Team would go second in the draft.

The Select Team was also pretty stacked with college players like Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, the late Eric Montrose, Penny Hardaway, and Allen Houston, among others. But no Shaq. And so that meant when this documentary was made, we weren’t graced with O’Neal’s wit and charm, and for that, we missed out on all that he brings to something like We Beat The Dream Team. Some of the best anecdotes in the documentary are about the trash-talking that went on between the All-Stars and the college kids. Those are the kind of stories everyone wants to hear about Shaq and it’s a bummer we didn’t get to because of a controversial decision made 30-plus years ago.

Since 1989, sportscaster Ernie Johnson has hosted Inside the NBA on TNT and shared his insights on professional basketball. Over the past several decades, Johnson has been joined by other panelists who provide their takes as well. Johnson is currently joined by Kenny “The Jet” Smith, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal. The quartet are fun for fans to watch, you have to wonder what it’s like for Johnson to actually work with those three big personalities. Well, he’s opening up about that and doing so in a hilarious way.

It goes without saying that of the four hosts on Inside, Ernie Johnson is easily the most reserved. Yet the 68-year-old TV industry veteran wasn’t his typical laid-back self (for just a little while) during his appearance on The Draymond Green Show. Co-host Baron Davis (who, like Green, has appeared as a fill-in host on the TNT show) asked Johnson what it’s like having to control the chaos that comes with his co-hosts’ larger-than-life personalities. To that end, Johnson explained in the YouTube video that it can go a few ways:

Kenny Smith joined the series in 1998, while Charles Barkley was added to the broadcaster’s table in 2000. And, since 2011, the show has also featured Shaq, who struggled early on to adjust to the format. In that time, the group has created TV magic, contributing to some truly funny on-air moments. Shaq and Barkley’s antics are particularly beloved by audiences, including their humorous back-and-forths and A+ jokes.

I can’t even imagine having to go through the process of “reading the room” while preparing for a broadcast with the likes of Sir Charles and co. Yet Ernie Johnson manages to maintain his composure, even when the series goes off the rails, much to the delight of viewers. As for how the six-time sports Emmy winner would sum up his job on the talk show, he described it in the perfect way:

Considering how much fun the hosts have on set and how successful the show has been, it’s wild to think that it nearly came to an end last year. Inside the NBA faced cancellation due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s (TNT’s parent company) losing out on the rights to the league. Around that same time, Ernie Johnson gave an emotional Emmys speech that had me in my feelings. Thankfully, though, following corporate negotiations (and wild statements from Charles Barkley), WBD reached a historic deal with ESPN to licence out the show starting this coming fall.

So Ernie Johnson can likely expect more on-air shenanigans as Inside the NBA’s run continues. While it’s funny to see the group taking the piss out of each other, it’s abundantly clear that they truly care for each other. Johnson’s colleagues surely love him, and he feels the same way – no matter how wild his buddies get.

Shaquille O'Neal really wants a celebrity roast, but he may have second thoughts after a former teammate shared this truly disgusting story about him. Apparently, the NBA legend was also a notorious prankster, although I think readers would agree with my opinion that this alleged poop prank was a step over the line.

Jason Richardson, who briefly played with O'Neal when he was on the Phoenix Suns from 2008 to 2009, told a truly bizarre and upsetting story about his former teammate on Entirely NBA. After reading this, I'm not sure I'm going to look at the seven-foot center the same way ever again.

Richardson's story began by talking about a player named Lou Amundson, who would ride his bike to practice every day because he lived near the arena. Shaq would allegedly hide Amundson's bike every practice, and the player eventually became fed up with spending close to 40 minutes searching for it before he could leave. He decided to get some revenge on Shaquille O'Neal by "popcorning" his car with packing peanuts, which led to O'Neal escalating the pranks even further.

I'm used to Shaq's goofy antics on Inside The NBA, but what Jason Richardson went on to talk about was far from anything I thought was funny. Here's how the legend allegedly got back at Lou Amundson in what ended up being a literal pain in the ass:

I can't imagine this is the story Shaquille O'Neal wants to be told so soon after signing that new TV deal. I also can't stop shaking my head in disbelief about how gross this is, and how upset I would be to learn someone did this.

Shaquille O'Neal may be known as the goofy giant who became a DJ after his retirement, but it appears he might've had a different reputation amongst his peers in the NBA. Or maybe Phoenix was just a wild time for the athlete who once recalled spending $70,000 in one shopping trip to Walmart.

As this story goes viral, I have to wonder if it'll get a shoutout on Inside The NBA. Something tells me its syndication partners at ESPN would prefer Sir Charles not crack a joke about this one, as it may come off as "shitty." We'll just see what the weekend brings as the NBA season resumes and inches closer to the playoffs.

During the halftime report amid the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder game. The broadcasters eventually participated in their “race to the board” segment, doing so in humorous fashion. What the basketball hall of famer is referring to is the status of Inside the NBA, which faced cancelation over the past year. This was due to the fact that TNT’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, would be losing the broadcast rights to the sports league. Although that is indeed what’s happening, TNT is licensing the show to ESPN, starting this coming fall, in what’s become a historic deal. As part of the agreement, the show will remain on the air for the next 11 years.

Shaquille O’Neal’s assertion that he and his co-workers are getting “fired” is still valid, though. They won’t, after all, be on their current network, so it seems O’Neal has adopted a somewhat devil-may-care attitude. Funny enough, a televised moment like this aligns with an obvious silver lining that fans of the show dwelled on shortly after the series’ cancellation seemed certain last year. They argued that with this being the show’s final year on TNT, the hosts would go all out when it comes to their wild antics.

Over the course of his 14-year tenure on Inside, Shaq has certainly contributed to some of the show’s funniest moments (alongside Charles Barkley), and this F-bomb certainly takes the cake. I’ve really enjoyed watching him have fun while coming into his own as a broadcaster, so I’m pleased that the part-time DJ recently inked an agreement that’ll ensure he stays on TV for a while.

How Did Shaquille O’Neal Just Cement His TV Career For The Foreseeable Future?

After the ESPN/TNT licensing deal was struck, there was still a question as to whether Shaq would remain in the fold. Well, Front Office Sports reports that he’ll remain a member of the Inside the NBA panel after signing a deal to remain with TNT Sports long-term. Exactly how long that contract will last is unclear at this moment, but what has been reported is that the Big Shamrock will be paid $15 million per year. Needless to say, his employers are shelling out serious cash to keep him around.

This great news comes shortly after Charles Barkley announced his plans to remain with TNT. Barkley had previously been vocal about the fact that he’d fielded offers from NBC and Amazon. Nevertheless, the former Phoenix Sun also stressed that he’s still waiting to hear back about specifics regarding what his work schedule will look like moving forward. The 61-year-old broadcaster made his position clear, saying “I’m not going to work more as I get older.”

I’d imagine that the powers that be will do what they can to ensure that the Round Mound of Rebound, Shaq and their colleagues are comfortable as time goes on. The fact that Inside the NBA is set to remain on the air is exciting, and I chuckle at the prospect of seeing Shaq and co. delivering more comedy as time goes on. Given they’ll be on a Disney-owned network, though, I’d be very surprised if any F-bombs get dropped come this fall.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne were inescapable in the 2000s, so it was only natural for the pair to host an episode of Monday Night Raw in November 2009. Their Raw’s Got Talent segment is without a doubt one of the worst things to ever happen on Raw, which is saying something.

Whenever a celebrity announces a roast, it always becomes a must-watch event. Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady is the most recent big roast to date, with some of the biggest names in comedy and football joining him on stage. The football G.O.A.T. took some hard hits that received huge numbers on the streaming service. Now, Shaquille O’Neal has announced he wants a turn in the hot seat, but he has one non-negotiable request if he’s to commit to a comedy special.

The NBA legend has one major bucket list item to tick off this year, and it’s to get roasted. After watching The Roast of Tom Brady, Shaq told Page Six he knows exactly what he wants, and it’s the full brutal treatment. Therefore there’s one specific person he needs in attendance:

The former NBA player is of course referring to Nikki Glaser and her work. The stand-up comic is fresh off hosting the Golden Globes, but she’s been making jokes at celebrities’ expense for a while now. The Comedy Central alum has a number of roasts under her belt, including the likes of Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Rob Lowe, and most famously, Tom Brady.

The legendary Patriots quarterback aired his roast live for those with Netflix subscriptions in 2024, and his guests did not hold back, especially Glaser. While she did feel a bit bad about some of her digs, her set also got a standing ovation from a crowd of over 10,000 people, so clearly she made the right decisions.

Glaser and other roasters even admitted to holding some jokes back, specifically regarding Brady's young kids, although when it came to ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, there was little mercy for the former celebrity power couple. Perhaps the split was still a little too fresh for the NFL MVP, as he later stated he didn’t like the jokes that hurt his family.

However, O’Neal has given the Not Safe With Nikki Glaser comic full clearance when it comes to his personal life:

Perhaps Brady was a bit unprepared for what he had signed up for, and he was definitely new to the comedy space. The opposite is true for Shaq. Not only is the former Laker eager to get comically annihilated by Glaser, but hardly ever takes himself seriously. He’s famously been in a number of Adam Sandler movies, most notably Grown Ups 2, and he often pulls silly stunts and pranks on Inside The NBA.

The point I’m getting at is the 7’1’’ baller is no amateur to the comedy scene, and I completely support Shaq getting his own roast special with Nikki Glaser in attendance. While the FBoy Island host received some backlash for her Tom Brady set, I highly doubt that will stop her from stepping up to the plate in the future. No doubt the Sandman would also be invited to Shaq's event, and I have a feeling it would be an all-star lineup through and through. If Netflix knows what’s good for them, the streamer will get this on their 2025 release schedule ASAP.

When you think of the funniest stars in Hollywood, Will Ferrell probably comes to mind, and rightfully so. The 57-year-old actor and comedian floored audiences with his work on Saturday Night Live, and many of Ferrell’s movies are greatly loved. His on-screen work aside, the star is known for occasionally pulling wild stunts in real life, with his drinking- and-smoking Buddy the Elf being the latest. Years ago, Ferrell pulled another prank at a sports game, when he threw Shaq out of a b-ball game at the Staples Center, and it’s a wild story.

The Talladega Nights icon paid a visit to Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, where he discussed various aspects of his career. He even clarified his wild Buddy the Elf moment from that hockey game. After that, Jason recalled the comic escorting Shaquille O’Neal out of a game at the Staples Center in 2013. At the time, Will Ferrell was decked out in a security uniform, and the stunt went off without a hitch. During his interview (which is on YouTube), Ferrell explained how he came to be in the position to pull off the prank:

Seriously, major kudos to the Step Brothers star for managing to sneak into the game unnoticed by the powers that be. I also can’t help but chuckle over the fact that some real security guards recognized him and let him go about his business. Of course, you may still wonder how the Inside the NBA co-host and aspiring underwear model got involved. Well, it turns out Shaq spotted the Old School alum himself, and the Los Angeles Lakers icon wanted to get in on the fun, as the comedic actor explained:

Shaquille O’Neal is definitely someone who appreciates a good time, as he’s shown in the past. His antics with Charles Barkley on Inside are proof of that, and there’s also the fact that he puts on grandiose shows as a DJ. Kudos to the Diesel for adding to the viral moment in such a great way. There was also a tad bit of humorous irony to this situation as well. Will Ferrell went on to tell the Kelce brothers that he was later approached by one of the heads of security for the Staples Center. And his take on Ferrell’s impersonation may not be what you’d expect:

Regardless of Will Ferrell’s intentions, the stunt was downright funny and, in my humble opinion, will stand as one of his best public stunts. Here’s hoping that his recent appearance as Buddy won’t be the last time he pulls something wild at a sporting event.

Shaquille O’Neal is best known for his work on the basketball court but, in recent years, he’s drawn notice for his business endeavors. He currently has deals in place with massive corporations like 24 Hour Fitness, Papa John’s Pizza, Krispy Kreme and more. Back in the ‘90s, he also made a very shrewd business decision that has seemingly benefitted him. O’Neal accidentally invested in a little company called Google way back when and, just recently, he revealed one regret he has about that.

The four-time NBA champion was among several business bigwigs who was interviewed for Zack O'Malley Greenburg’s book, A-List Angels: How a Band of Actors, Artists, and Athletes Hacked Silicon Valley. Greenburg’s publication examines the various ways in which major stars invested in tech start-ups. When the author spoke with Shaq, he learned that the former center “got into Google by accident.” The athlete explained (via Business Insider) that he was at a restaurant playing with some kids, whose dad was a major investor.

Ultimately, Shaq had the sharp sense to take the man’s advice when it came to investing in the eventual Internet giant. There is one thing the beloved former Los Angeles Laker would’ve done differently, and I can understand why:

All in all, the three-time NBA Finals MVP does deserve credit for having the foresight to invest in any capacity. Still, he possibly left a considerable amount of money on the table by not buying up more shares. Alas, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. We also have to be fair in acknowledging that it’s honestly hard to predict whether something will take off, regardless of how well it’s pitched to us.

Shaq’s history with money has been interesting, to say the least. He mostly seems to manage his cash effectively today (aside from that Mike Tyson fight bet). Despite that, he’s admitted to past financial faux pas over the years. For example, as a young player, he managed to spend $1 million in a single day (and it’s a wild story). During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the Inside the NBA co-host revealed he has the largest purchase history at Walmart: $70,000. The historic-ish record went down as part of furnishing an apartment he got in Phoenix after being traded to the Suns. The place came unfurnished, and Shaq says he isn't the kind of person to procrastinates about such issues, so he went directly to Walmart to buy everything that he needed.

In the clip shared on big_shaqfc’s Instagram, the athlete said this about his initial arrival in Arizona and his shopping list:

The sports analyst and entrepreneur is no stranger to large-scale purchases. He’s spent one million dollars in a day, leaning all about FICA in the process, and has paid the bill for an entire restaurant of patrons after taking a date to that establishment. Lots of stories like these have been shared over the years, but not one quite like this.

Unsurprisingly, the card got flagged, and he ended up having to get on the phone with his bank to confirm that he wasn't make such purchases illegally. As he put it:

The Uncle Drew alum's spending prowess can even be shocking for his bank, though I guess having that big of a Walmart bill would be a blight on anyone's statement. But I’m not even sure how many others with that kind of budget would be so proactive in personally furnishing a new home so quickly by themselves, and at Walmart no less. It is why such mega-stores exist, of course; you can get anything and everything you want there: printers, linens, and clothing, and all in the middle of the night, which isn't so much a possibility in the post-COVID world.

There’s a more intentional and mindful side to his various spending habits, which is the true piece to take away from his public monetary adventures. Something I’ve come to expect most years is the prospect of seeing Shaquille O’Neal crash into a Christmas tree on live TV. Yes, the former basketball player has collided with a tree on Inside the NBA multiple times throughout the years. 2024 was no different, as O’Neal once again fell into a massive tree, and the video has garnered some truly funny responses from fans.

Shaq’s unfortunate run-ins with the massive trees are usually caused by some kind of wild accident. However, this time around, it was the big man himself who willingly decided to take a dive. During a recent episode of Inside, the Diesel humorously threatened to jump into the tree. His co-stars – Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley – seemed skeptical as to whether he’d do it. The four-time NBA champion has been falling or running into Christmas trees for years now. As early as 2014, Shaq has been wiping out on national TV, much to the delight of fans. One of my favorite instances of this happened in 2022, at which point the star was shoved into the tree by Kenny Smith. It was a sight to behold, and the mere thought of it makes me chuckle even now. So, all in all, this has certainly become something of a staple for TNT’s long-running sports show.

Additionally, it would seem that Shaq, Ernie Johnson and the crew are also establishing some other A+ traditions for their show. This year, the Inside the NBA crew had photos taken for the holidays, and they’re absolutely perfect. All four co-hosts posed for a number of snapshots, and it’s the kind of content I love. The pics may be part of a joke, but they solidify just how much of a family unit these guys really are.

What really warms my heart this holiday season is the knowledge that the sports talk show is set to continue after this season. For a while, it seemed as though Inside the NBA would be canceled due to Warner Bros. Discovery losing the broadcast rights to the league in 2025. However, in November, TNT and ESPN forged a partnership that would allow the series to be licensed out to the latter network for the next 11 years. It was welcome news for fans, and even Charles Barkley – who’d been critical of WBD amid the situation – admitted that he must “go back to kissing ass.”

So viewers will hopefully have plenty of other chances to see Shaquille O’Neal get flung into a Christmas tree in the years to come. I applaud the man for his commitment to the running gag and hope he stays safe as he continues to indulge in this hilarious tradition.

What a wild year it’s been for everyone working on Inside The NBA. The beloved talking head show that features Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson talking basketball went from in danger of being cancelled to cancelled to licensed to another network after TNT lost the rights to air NBA games. Yet, throughout all the highs and lows, they somehow remained an absolute delight to watch, and in typical Inside The NBA fashion, they just surprised fans with the perfect way to close out the year: family photos.

That’s right. Anyone who follows Inside The NBA on social media was gifted a fantastic Christmas surprise yesterday, as the show dropped an album of photos the hosts took together. All dressed in Christmas sweaters, the guys hit all the classic mall photographer poses, including looking up and away from the camera, simultaneously screaming and my personal favorite, leaning in opposite directions. All four guys on Inside The NBA have terrific basketball minds. They’re all capable of breaking down plays and talking out strategy changes various coaches should make, but that’s like twenty-five percent of why the show is so freakin’ great. The main thing that works so well is the chemistry between them. They all roast each other like they’re a group of friends hanging out, but you can tell it’s with love in their hearts.

They’re just so overtly having a good time that it makes you want to be a part of it. And that comes through in these family photos. I mean these aren’t even the only ones the guys took. The show also dropped some outtakes on X, clearly because they hung around and took a ton of extra photos while laughing their asses off. Check out the looks on their faces in this one…

It’s infuriating to think we almost lost Inside The NBA, and the truth is we seem to have come so close. It all started with the NBA rights package coming to an end. TNT has long broadcast NBA games a few nights a week, and the Inside The NBA crew typically surrounds the games, offering their thoughts on what’s going on. Unfortunately, Warner Bros ended up losing the rights to broadcast the NBA starting next season. The crew, especially Charles Barkley, was very open about their disappointment and frustration with Warner Bros management. In fact, fans were openly speculating about how unhinged the commentary might be during its final season without the guys worrying at all about what their bosses thought.

But then we all got a Christmas miracle. ESPN and Warner Bros worked out a deal that would allow Barkley and company to keep working for Warner Bros but broadcast their show on ESPN, where it will once again surround the NBA games. Fans couldn’t be more fired up, and these family photos are a good tease for what we might be in store for next year. I can’t wait.

So, after hearing all of that, there may be one question that you’re pondering: how is Shaquille O’Neal with money today? Well, it would seem that he has a much better handle on his financial portfolio today. Yet he is still known to shell out copious amounts of money whenever he sees fit. For example, while talking to Dan Patrick, O’Neal admitted to betting $10K on Mike Tyson amid his fight with Jake Paul. Ultimately, Tyson failed to defeat Paul in the ring, but that didn’t seem to worry O’Neal all that much.

I am serious when I say that Shaq has been quite shrewd when it comes to his business dealings. He’s invested in food franchises like Krispy Kreme, Five Guys and Auntie Anne’s as well as 24 Hour Fitness establishments and Google. In addition to various other enterprises, since 2011, he’s been one of the co-hosts of TNT’s recently saved show Inside the NBA.

Shaquille O’Neal is also a noted philanthropist and is known for his good gestures. Whether he’s paying a bill for an entire restaurant or buying shoes for a six-year-old, his generosity seems to know no bounds. He even donated money towards families impacted by the tragic supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York in 2022. While his personality has remained the same in some regards, I’d say that Shaq has come a long way from being the kid who spent a million dollars in a single day.

Shaquille O’Neal got some good news recently when it was learned that Inside the NBA would, in fact, be returning to the 2025 TV schedule next season under the ESPN umbrella, but unfortunately another of his shows wasn’t as lucky. The former NBA star co-hosted the first season of Lucky 13 on ABC with Gina Rodriguez, but the decision was made to not renew the game show. Some of 2024’s TV cancellations have evoked outrage amongst fans, but that wasn’t the sentiment surrounding Lucky 13. Viewers aired their frustrations with the show while also expressing hope for The Chase to return.

Lucky 13 featured a somewhat complicated format, with a single contestant answering 13 true-or-false questions. They then would guess how many of those questions they think they got right with the opportunity to win up to $1 million. Despite a promising start, Deadline reports, the show’s audience dropped off after a few weeks, and ad revenue fell short of projections. Bad news for the basketball star-turned-broadcaster-turned-game show host and Gina Rodriguez, but it didn’t come as much of a surprise to viewers, per a conversation on Reddit, with one writing:

I watched several episodes of Lucky 13 and can personally attest to this statement. Shaq and Gina Rodriguez are always charming and fun to watch, in my opinion, but the actual game was kind of a drag. You have to listen to the same 13 true-or-false questions twice, as well as the contestants’ reasons for their 50/50 guess. Other commenters agreed they won’t lose sleep over the loss of this game show, as they wrote:

One sticking point for me was the fact that contestants had to predict how many they got right and then fall within a range of that number, meaning that sometimes contestants lost because they got too many questions right. Redditor wordyfard perfectly summed up the series’ cancellation using its own logic by saying:

It seems there are other game shows fans would rather see, and many hoped that freeing up Lucky 13’s timeslot could be good news for one of the best game shows ever. One comment that received dozens of up-votes read:

Apologies to Gina Rodriguez, Shaquille O’Neal and his free throw-shooting ability, but if you ask me if fans would rather watch The Chase than Lucky 13, I’d have to say that’s true.

Sports fans have reason to rejoice, as TNT’s Inside the NBA has officially been saved. This exciting development can be chalked up to a historic deal between Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery. While fans have seemingly been delighted by this turn of events, it’s also being reported that congratulations are being passed around internally. However, sources also say that one person isn’t all that pleased with this turn of events – series co-host Shaquille O’Neal, and insiders have provided details on that front.

News of the long-running basketball talk show being saved from the axe broke this past weekend. The Wall Street Journal shared the details, explaining that TNT Sports (whose parent company is WBD) brokered an agreement with Disney to licence Inside the NBA to ESPN and ABC, beginning with the 2025-2026 NBA season. While the show will still be produced independently from its Atlanta-based studio, the show will be utilized for postgame and halftime shows as well as NBA Finals and Conference Finals coverage among other things.

What’s also exciting is that the series’ entire panel of commentators is reportedly set to return. That includes Ernie Johnson, Kenny “The Jet” Smith and Charles Barkley. While most of the co-hosts remained relatively mum amid the cancellation controversy, Barkley made some wild statements though, at the time, he was candid about how the situation “sucks” for those who’d be losing their jobs. In an attempt to lend a hand, Barkley also walked back his retirement plans and signed an extension with TNT.

Though the Round Mound of Rebound’s professional future was up in the air for a while, it now seems there are questions regarding what lies ahead for Shaq. Sport Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina reports that the basketball hall of famer’s contract with TNT expires on July 1, 2025. His deal is apparently different from those of his peers because, unlike them, he doesn’t participate in any other kinds of sports coverage for the network. With that, Traina’s sources tell him that the big man is “frustrated” that everyone is celebrating the big Disney news while his deal has still yet to be solidified.

On the bright side, it’s said that Shaquille O’Neal is interested in extending his contract so that he can stick around. That prospect is a lot better than what was initially assumed when Inside the NBA was on the chopping block. It was initially reported that O’Neal would have plenty of options if the show were to end. And, while that would’ve been great for him, it would’ve been unfortunate not to see him alongside his co-hosts of 14 years.

What’s still exciting, though, is the fact that Inside is definitely going to air past the 2024-2025 NBA season, and it’s going to be on for some time. TNT and ABC’s deal is set to run for 11 years, which should ensure that Ernie Johnson and the gang remain on the small screen for years to come. From a legal standpoint, this agreement also helps to subside the legal tension between Warner Bros. Discovery and the NBA, as the latter took legal action against the former after it reportedly made a bid for the league’s broadcasting rights.

I, for one, am certainly glad that TNT’s popular sports commentary series isn’t going away anytime soon. Of course, I’m also hopeful that all of the specifics regarding contracts will be ironed out sooner rather than later. Inside is definitely a fun show, but it would certainly be weird not having Charles Barkley and Shaq’s joint antics.

This past Friday, viewers were finally able to witness one of the biggest entries on the 2024 TV schedule – Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. Anyone with a Netflix subscription who watched was able to see the 27-year-old Paul defeat the 58-year-old Tyson by unanimous decision. “Iron Mike” had quite a few people in his corner, including basketball hall of famer Shaquille O’Neal. In fact, I just found out Shaq lost quite a bit of money by betting on Tyson. Yet that significant loss of cheddar didn’t stop the former athlete from hanging with Paul after the fight.

What Did Shaq Say About How Much He Bet On The Paul/Tyson Fight?

Some may be aware that Inside the NBA’s Charles Barkley is a gambler, and doesn’t care what people think about his hobby. Though he apparently doesn’t put down cash on the table like his co-star does, Shaq has put down his share of bets in his time as well. Before Paul vs. Tyson, “The Diesel” popped up on The Dan Patrick Show to discuss a few topics. Talk eventually turned to the highly promoted bout, which Shaq was sure Tyson would win. He also revealed that he bet a reasonably hefty on the fight:

That was definitely quite a bit of cash to throw down, especially when you think about a fight as unique as this one was. I suppose you have to appreciate the confidence that the four-time NBA champion had. Plus, in all fairness, Mike Tyson did look solid during the early fight workouts, and Tyson’s early training videos showed that he was in solid shape as well. So even though he experienced the ulcer flare-up in May that delayed the fight, there was still reason to believe that the former Heavyweight Champion of the World would emerge victorious.

Ultimately, that just wasn’t the case, though, and Shaquille O’Neal is out of a lot of money as a result. I’d personally feel a way if I’d lost all of those “pennies,” though the former Los Angeles Laker didn’t seem too disappointed. Well, that’s the impression one gets based on a social media post that dropped sometime after the fight.

The ever-trolling Jake Paul seemed to enjoy himself following his in-ring victory a few nights ago. He took to his Instagram stories to share a few posts of his afterparty and more. One post, which was shared the other evening, features a video that shows Shaq jamming on stage. The ex-NBA player is a DJ and, in the clip, he performs in front of a giant audience. If Shaq was unhappy with losing all of that money on the fight, then he certainly wasn’t showing it during that particular night. He is, after all, someone who does enjoy a good party, so I suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised by his post-match activities. Still, I’d be feeling a way if I were in his shoes, given I’d just lost so much money.

Despite my feelings, I do have to remember that Shaquille O’Neal is rich, so I suppose that for someone like him, 10K could just be a drop in the bucket. Still, I wonder if the former NBA center might be so inclined to place a similar bet anytime soon. We can only speculate on that front, but best believe that I’m going to continue holding off on betting any of my cash on fights.

Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille O'Neal won four NBA championships (three with the L.A. Lakers and one with the Miami Heat) during his 19 seasons as a pro basketball player. He also won a gold medal as part of Team USA in the 1996 Olympics. After retiring in 2011, he joined Inside the NBA as an analyst, where he remains over a decade later, though it's unknown what Shaq will do if Inside the NBA is canceled in 2025.

Daniel Cormier

Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier became the second fighter in the UFC to simultaneously hold titles in two weight classes (Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight) and the first to defend titles in more than one weight class. He first provided color commentary for a UFC Fight Night in 2016 and became a regular member of the UFC's crew of commentators upon his retirement in 2020.

Tara Lipinski

Tara Lipinski racked up a number of national and world championships, as well as a gold medal in the 1998 Olympics, which made her more than qualified to become one of the sport's leading commentators. She joined the NBC team in 2014, and while she's known for giving blunt feedback on the skaters' routines, we don't think that makes her mean; it just means she's good at her job.

Tom Brady

The greatest quarterback to ever play the game struck a lucrative deal to join the Fox NFL analysts long before he hung up his helmet for good. Seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady got off to kind of a rough start as a color commentator for the 2024 football season, but even Shaquille O'Neal believes he'll only get better with time.

Rebecca Lobo

Rebecca Lobo was a member of the 1996 Olympics team, where she won the gold before going on to a career in the WNBA from 1997 to 2003. She remains heavily involved in the sport, serving as a reporter and analyst for ESPN for women's college and professional basketball.

Tim McCarver

Following a career as a Major League Baseball catcher from 1959 to 1980, which included two World Series titles (1964 and 1967) with the St. Louis Cardinals, Tim McCarver went into broadcasting, eventually landing at Fox Sports. He earned three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sports Event Analyst and set a record for calling 23 World Series and 20 All-Star Games.

Dana Torres

Dana Torres represented the U.S. swim team in five Olympic Games, garnering 12 medals and setting three world records over the course of her career. Her final Olympics were in 2008, where at 41, she was the oldest swimmer on Team USA. After retiring from competitive swimming, she went on to work as an announcer for several networks including NBC, ESPN, TNT and Fox News. She also hosted a golf show.

Nastia Liukin

American gymnast Nastia Liukin is an analyst for the NBC Sports Group covering her event of expertise and has served as a commentator during the Olympics. This follows a career in which she earned five Olympic medals, including becoming the 2008 all-around champion; winning the all-around U.S. national championship four times; and was awarded nine World Championship medals.

Mary Carillo

Mary Carillo played professional tennis from 1977 to 1980, before injuries forced her into retirement. She then took her colorful personality to new heights, becoming a tennis broadcaster for USA Network, PBS, CBS Sports, HBO, NBC Sports, The Tennis Channel and more, including Olympics coverage from both Atlanta and Sydney, Australia. She then branched out to different sports, covering skiing during the 1992 Winter Olympics and has since done everything from human interest pieces to bobsled, luge, figure skating and even the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Cheryl Miller

After a successful college basketball career at USC and leading the United States to gold in the 1984 Olympics, Cheryl Miller was drafted by several professional leagues, including the men's United States Basketball League. After injuries ended her playing career, she continued as a WNBA coach and basketball broadcaster, most notably as an NBA sideline reporter for TNT Sports and NBA TV analyst.

Tony Romo

After spending 13 seasons as a Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo took to the booth, calling NFL games for CBS Sports. His football knowledge serves him well during broadcasts, as he's known for predicting what play an offense is going to run and even guessing what's being said in conversations between referees or coaches on the sidelines.

Tim Daggett

The Olympics may officially start with the Opening Ceremonies, but for gymnastics fans, it's not until you've heard Tim Daggett utter the words: “Gymnastics 101: Fly high and stick the landing.” Daggett was part of the first U.S. men's gymnastics team to win gold in 1985, where he scored a perfect 10 on the horizontal bar and also earned a bronze medal on the pommel horse. Terry Bradshaw spent 14 seasons as quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, winning four Super Bowls over a six-year period. However, just as many people likely know him for his boisterous personality as an analyst and co-host of Fox NFL Sunday, which he's been a part of since 1994.

Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley was the "Round Mound of Rebound" for 16 years in the NBA, where he was part of two gold-medal Olympic teams. He went on to become an integral part of TNT's Inside the NBA, where he continues to share his unfiltered opinions and often trades barbs with Shaquille O'Neal.

Lisa Leslie

One of the greatest WNBA players of all time, Lisa Leslie holds the distinction of being the first player to dunk during a WNBA game. She won two Olympic gold medals and two WNBA championships with the Los Angeles Sparks. Since retiring, Leslie has worked as a sports commentator for networks including NBC and ABC, and in 2018 she joined Fox Sports Florida as an analyst on the Orlando Magic broadcasts.

Dominick Cruz

Cruz proved that he knows how to get his arm raised, compiling a professional mixed martial arts record of 24 wins and just 4 losses.

Summer Sanders

Following a college career that included eight NCAA titles and three World Championship medals in 1991, swimmer Summer Sanders won four Olympic medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Her TV career began around the same time, as she provided swimming commentary for CBS and then NBC. Over the years she has helped cover the Winter Olympics, co-hosted NBA Inside Stuff for eight years, covered tennis and worked as a commentator for the Pac-12 Network.

Johnny Weir

Known these days as much for his style as his skills on the ice, Johnny Weir is one half of the dream team of figure skating commentary alongside Tara Lipinski. In addition to analyzing figure skating together for over a decade, Weir and Lipinski have been fashion analysts and correspondents for the Oscars, dog shows, the Kentucky Derby and the Super Bowl. This follows Weir's own career, in which he competed in two Winter Olympics, won bronze in the 2008 World Championships and was a U.S. National champion for three years straight.

John McEnroe

John McEnroe is infamous for having a temper on the tennis court, but his career speaks for itself, as he won 77 career singles titles, 77 doubles titles, and 1 mixed-doubles title during his ATP Tour career, including seven major singles titles and nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles. Post-retirement, he began providing commentary for networks including ESPN, CBS, NBC, USA and the BBC.

Laurie Hernandez

Laurie Hernandez's competition days as a gymnast resulted in a gold medal in the team competition at the 2016 Summer Games and silver on the balance beam. She also won the junior all-around at the 2015 U.S. Championships. Those who watched Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics got to hear Hernandez provide commentary during NBC's live daytime broadcast.

Troy Aikman

Troy Aikman was a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys, where he played quarterback for 12 seasons. He went on to serve as the color commentator for NFL on Fox for 20 years until 2021, and has been calling Monday Night Football alongside Joe Buck since 2022.

Rowdy Gaines

Rowdy Gaines, aka "The Voice of Swimming," had a successful career in the pool, winning three Olympic gold medals in 1984 and setting 10 world records in his six years of competition. Gaines has since covered swimming at every Olympics since 1992 and also serves as an analyst for NBC.

Bob Uecker

Bob Uecker spent five years as a catcher in the MLB, winning a World Series with the 1964 St. Louis Cardinals, but he's more widely known for the career that came after. In 2024 at 90 years old, Uecker began his 54th season broadcasting for the Milwaukee Brewers. He's also appeared at WrestleMania as a commentator and had a hilarious role as a play-by-play announcer in the Major League movies.

Teddy Atlas

After a back injury forced Teddy Atlas to quit boxing, he turned to training and eventually broadcast, serving as a longtime commentator for ESPN and providing analysis for NBC during the Olympics from 2000 to 2016.

Chiney Ogwumike

Much of Chiney Ogwumike's basketball-playing and broadcasting careers have happened simultaneously. After the power forward was drafted first overall in 2014 to the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, Ogwumike went on to sign a multi-year contract with ESPN in 2018 as a full-time basketball analyst. In 2020 she became the first Black woman and first WNBA player to host a national radio show for the sports entertainment network.

Bill Walton

NBA star Bill Walton, who passed away in May 2024 at age 71, enjoyed a long career in basketball, winning two NBA championships (1977 with the Portland Trail Blazers and 1986 with the Boston Celtics). He overcame a stutter to become a color commentator for several decades, working for CBS, NBC, ABC/ESPN, the L.A. Clippers, the Sacramento Kings and the Pac-12 Network.

John Madden

John Madden contributed so much to the sport of football, he's got a video game to ensure we never forget. After being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1958, a knee injury ended his career before he ever played a game. He coached for years before settling into his role as an analyst, sharing his wisdom on all four major TV networks. He became one of the most well-known voices amongst NFL fans and won 16 Sports Emmy Awards prior to his death in 2021.

Candace Parker

Candace Parker was the first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA draft, going to the Los Angeles Sparks, where she spent 13 seasons and won one championship. She then played for the Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces, picking up a title at each of those stops as well. Parker announced her retirement in April 2024, but her broadcasting career was already in full swing. In 2018 she began providing analysis for NBA on TNT and has worked on NBA TV and the NCAA Tournament, including the men's championship game. In 2023, she became the first woman to provide color commentary for an NBA All-Star Game.

Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow played three seasons in the NFL, mostly playing quarterback but also tight end later in his career. He also tried his hand at Major League Baseball, where he jumped around to several minor league teams before retiring. In 2017 he began contributing college football commentary regularly on the SEC Network and ESPN.

Michael Bisping

Michael Bisping began his professional MMA career in 2004, ultimately winning The Ultimate Fighter 3's light heavyweight tournament. He went on to a UFC career that lasted until 2017, during which he held the Middleweight belt and the Cage Rage Light Heavyweight title. In 2019 he made his color commentary debut for the UFC, making his way to the big pay-per-view fights a year later.

Cris Collinsworth

After an eight-season NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, wide receiver Cris Collinsworth went into broadcasting, a career that has earned him 17 Sports Emmys. Collinsworth notably became the color commentator for NBC's Sunday Night Football when John Madden retired in 2009 and also voices the commentary on several editions of the Madden video game.

Doug Collins

After an eight-year career with the Philadelphia 76ers, Doug Collins held several broadcasting positions. In addition to serving as an NBA analyst for 76ers and New York Knicks broadcasts, he's worked for CBS, NBC, TBS, TNT and ABC/ESPN. He also lent his basketball expertise to coverage of the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.

Tom Brady has been taking some heat over the past couple of weeks for his performance at his new broadcasting job, and while the hits may not be as brutal as the ones he took on Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady, which apparently caused lingering effects on him and his family, this probably isn’t the reception the GOAT had hoped for in this next stage of his career. Shaquille O’Neal can likely relate to the retired quarterback’s situation, as he was also celebrated in his sport before going the commentator route post-retirement, and he had a bold prediction and some advice for Brady.

After officially retiring from the NFL (for the second time), Tom Brady is reportedly making an exorbitant amount of money in broadcasting, but in his first few weeks, NFL fans have found his commentary a bit stiff, saying he was too quiet and seemed uncomfortable. Shaquille O’Neal is never afraid to throw his own 2 cents into any situation — like when he blasted two current NBA players as the “worst of all time” — and he gave Brady some grace as the QB warms up to his new role. On a segment of The Big Podcast with Shaq, the Big Aristotle predicted:

Troy Aikman is one of several former NFL players to find success behind the microphone after retiring because their experience on the field allows them to give unique insight into the games. Another QB-turned-commentator Terry Bradshaw made a great point about Tom Brady, saying that there’s still some mystery to his personality, and people are curious to see if he’ll be funny or witty or able to break down the games properly.

Shaquille O’Neal had some advice on doing just that, as he said on the podcast:

That’s a pretty huge compliment from Shaquille O’Neal, as he upgraded Tom Brady from his usual “G14 classification” to G19, and he seems to think that if the Super Bowl champ lets his guard down enough to just be himself, his stories and experience will be enough to carry him. (I can’t help but love the shot he took at Charles Barkley, too!)

Of course Tom Brady is leaning toward professionalism as he settles into the new job, but it may not get much easier to share his honest opinions, if he ends up becoming a part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. The NFL has created a set of “severe” restrictions for Brady should that happen, which include not being able to publicly criticize other teams or officials. We’ll have to see if and how that affects his commentary, but for the time being, Shaq seems confident that the GOAT will find his footing with time.

Since the conclusion of his 19-year NBA career, Shaquille O’Neal has immersed himself in a number of different enterprises. He’s teamed up with a plethora of brands and has appeared in various commercials as a result. And, of course, the former center is a co-host on Inside the NBA (which may be ending soon). On top of all that, Shaq is also a DJ, who goes by the moniker DJ Diesel. I’d honestly always wondered what encouraged Shaq to get into that business and, thanks to his explanation, I now understand completely.

It’s long been known that Shaq has a thing for music, given he’s been rapping for decades now. (He’s even declared himself the GOAT of athlete-rappers.) Still, when he retired in 2011, I never imagined that I’d see him working on a turntable while music blasts around him. The four-time NBA champion addressed his work while speaking with People and explained that DJ’ing gives him something the game of basketball used to provide:

Based on what I’ve seen and experienced, a place can certainly be electric when a DJ is doing their job right. Still, when it comes to the former Los Angeles Laker, I never considered what such a boost of energy could do for him. It’s hard to match the energy of a sporting event, especially a high-stakes basketball game. The former LSU star went on to explain how he discovered the electric and addictive nature of DJing:

Musical magic like that does indeed only last for a limited amount of time. However, it’s definitely cool that Shaquille O’Neal has found a way to hold onto that immense energy he was so used to experiencing. Many of his performances are posted to YouTube and, based on the videos, it definitely seems to enjoy what he does.

The music business aside, the dominant big man could seemingly find himself without a major gig this time next year. It’s looking more likely that TNT’s Inside the NBA will end early next summer amid the 2025 TV schedule. That’s because parent company Warner Bros. Discovery has apparently lost the rights to the broadcast rights to the eponymous basketball league. It would be a shame to lose the show (which fans are trying to save), as the public would be without Shaq and Charles Barkley’s funny moments. Still, sources theorize that Shaq’s post-Inside career could still be quite viable, as it’s believed that he’ll be a hot commodity if he becomes a TV free agent.

Whatever happens on that front, though, I’d expect Shaquille O’Neal to continue DJ’ing as long as he’s able to. Those who enjoy high-energy beats should do themselves a favor and check out DJ Diesel when he performs next. And, based on O’Neal’s latest comments, b-ball fans looking for the same energy that accompanies games, should attend an event as well.

As the world waits and ponders what Shaquille O'Neal's next move will be should Inside The NBA end, the living legend is doling out hot takes about the state of the game. O'Neal is known for his unflinching opinions about the current era of players. However, his latest comments were especially bold, as the former Lakers center was asked to name the "worst of all time" players, and he named two who are in the league right now.

Shaq did a video with his son Myles O'Neal for Complex, where they discussed the best and worst things ever. The legend was prompted to give his opinion of who the worst basketball players ever were, and those who thought he'd give a diplomatic answer aren't familiar with his antics on Inside The NBA. O'Neal doesn't hold back when it comes to talking about which players aren't pulling their weight in the league, and he directly called out Rudy Gobert and Ben Simmons:

Gobert is a three-time NBA All-Star, a four-time NBA Defensive Player Of The Year, and allegedly spurred the massive shutdown of the NBA during the pandemic. Brooklyn Nets' Ben Simmons also has a good deal of accolades, but his past few seasons have been marred by injuries and drama ever since a horrendous playoff showing with his previous team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Based on Shaquille O'Neal's comments and the similarities between the two, the champion's main gripe is that he dislikes players who get paid big bucks and don't play unless they absolutely can't. Ben Simmons only played 15 games in the latest NBA season, and he missed the rest to seek treatment for a pinched nerve.

As for Rudy Gobert, he played most of the games he could for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season but made headlines for coming off the bench and getting limited playing time for Team France during the Paris Olympics due to a finger injury. France ultimately lost the gold medal to Team USA.

I thought Shaq was being a little harsh when he criticized Gobert, but it seems the legend already saw that criticism coming:

He's not wrong, but it's fair to say that Shaquille O'Neal has some hot takes from time to time. He once declared himself the G.O.A.T. of athlete rappers, and I personally would have to say that Damian Lillard or John Cena, if we're including WWE, easily hold that title over him. So, it's not farfetched for him to make bold claims that cause debates.

At the same time, it's hard not to respect the Big Man's opinion. As tough as he can be, we're talking about a guy who took on terrifying legends like Michael Jordan and played with other greats like Kobe Bryant despite a largely dysfunctional relationship.

Sports fans could be on the cusp of a new talk show era – one that doesn’t feature TNT’s Inside the NBA, which is nearing cancellation right now. The show’s apparent conclusion, which would come in the summer of 2025, is due to its network’s parent company losing the rights to the eponymous pro basketball league. With that, many have been speculating about what might lie ahead for the series’ quartet of hosts. Longtime host Shaquille O’Neal’s TV future is also in question and, now, an insider has weighed in on that matter.

The 52-year-old ex Los Angeles Laker joined Inside the NBA back in 2011 after retiring from the league and, since then, he’s become a big part of the series (figuratively and literally). Of course, aside from his duties to the long-running chat show, Shaq also engages in a host of other media-related gigs. In doing so, he’s become a well-known figure within the entertainment space. It’s for that reason that Goodwin Sports agent Nate Jones believes the four-time champion will be a hot commodity should he become a TV free agent:

Nate Jones was right on the money when sharing those comments with The New York Post. Shaquille O’Neal is indeed one of the few athletes that’s truly managed to keep a firm foot within the sports world post-retirement while also blazing a massive trail for themself in TV or film. The few others that come to mind are Charles Barkley, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Peyton Manning. One could even argue that Kansas City Chief tight end Travis Kelce is on a trajectory similar to the aforementioned athletes.

Considering Shaq’s body of work, it’s easy to agree with the notion that he’d attract a number of potential employers should Inside the NBA end. The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel opines that the self-proclaimed GOAT of athletes rappers would be a great fit for ESPN’s NBA Countdown. On the surface, that would certainly be a viable option for him. It has also been reported, however, that the Diesel could also remain with TNT Sports should it lose the professional basketball rights. That would, theoretically, mean that Shaq could cover NCAA b-ball or even golf.

If the Orlando Magic legend chooses to stay put if the basketball rights aren’t retained, he’d join Charles Barkley, who walked back his retirement decision in favor of a new deal with TNT Sports. Barkley has since discussed his decision to keep working, saying that he did so in order to save jobs. He apparently left $100 million on the table in the process and called that experience “humbling.”

The notion of seeing Shaq and Sir Charles work together on a show that isn’t Inside the NBA would be weird, though. During the series’ run, Chuck and Shaq’s viral antics have become well-loved and serve as a major selling point for the program. They, of course, also provide stellar commentary alongside co-hosts Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith. I don’t like the idea of these four breaking up but, at the very least, fans should rest assured knowing that Shaq will likely remain on their screens in some form or fashion.

Inside the NBA will return this fall amid basketball season for what could very well be its send-off season. TNT’s Inside the NBA is appealing not only because of its basketball commentary but also because of the co-hosts of the show. Shaquille O’Neal, for instance, has been delighting audiences since he joined the program over a decade ago. However, it would seem that the sports legend had to overcome a bit of a learning curve early on. Charles Barkley explained why the big man struggled during his early years as a broadcaster – and had his co-workers joking that he’d be “setting himself on fire” at some point.

Charles Barkley recently appeared on Paul George’s Podcast P, where he discussed the apparent cancellation of Inside the NBA and the sports broadcasting landscape. While explaining why ESPN and others can’t replicate the long-running TNT talk show, Barkley reflected on the growing pains the series has overcome over the years. The Round Mound of Rebound eventually remembered the period of transition that arose when Shaq joined the crew in 2011. As Barkley recalled, the Diesel was definitely enthusiastic – but maybe a bit too high-spirited:

One gets the feeling that Shaquille O’Neal was aware of Inside the NBA’s reputation for showcasing wild antics, before he joined the show, given that he tried so hard in the beginning. However, as Charles Barkley laid out, filming that show isn’t a sprint but a marathon – one that sounds somewhat exhausting. It seems like O’Neal eventually got the hang of everything, though, based on how much of a natural he seems to be today. Later in his interview, Sir Charles went on to shower some praise on his friend and occasional verbal sparring partner:

Essentially, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal are one of the greatest comedic broadcasting tandems of all time. Both men absolutely bring out the best – and wildest – sides of each other. Together, they’ve also gifted viewers with some of the most memorable moments in Inside’s illustrious history, which is saying a lot. (People still talk about that time that Barkley and O’Neal laughed uncontrollably after the Los Angeles Clippers called the cops on the Houston Rockets following an incident.) Aside from that, the two also rib each other off camera, such as when Shaq humorously mentioned Barkley while explaining when he knew he needed to lose weight.

The duo’s antics and more are reasons why fans were so upset to learn earlier this year that Inside the NBA was facing cancellation due to TNT losing the broadcast rights to the eponymous sports league. Amid that, many took to social media to reminisce about the series and share funny clips of Shaq and “Chuck” from over the years. As of right now, it would seem that Inside will indeed end following the 2024-2025 TV season. That’s a sad prospect, but the obvious silver lining is that the hosts will surely be aiming to deliver a truly fun, sentimental and downright hilarious send-off season of the show.

So Shaquille O’Neal should be at the top of his game just like fellow hosts Charles Barkley (who recently walked back his retirement comments), Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson. The four-time NBA champion has come a long way as a broadcaster, and it’s been great to watch him grow into his role. I think fans of the series can all agree that the program is better off for him continuing to work on his craft, and ultimately opting not to set himself on fire.

Countless athletes have competed in the NBA throughout the league’s illustrious history, but few are arguably as unique as Dennis Rodman. The hall of famer was known not only for his aggressive style of play but also his eccentric lifestyle off the court. Many of his former teammates and on-court rivals have opened up about playing against him and just getting to know him as a person. As you would expect, some of those tales are a bit wild. However, Shaquille O’Neal just told a story about Rodman not showering after playing basketball, and I can never unhear it.

Shaquille O’Neal and his The Big Podcast co-host Adam Lefkoe recently interviewed Allen Iverson during an episode of the show. During the installment, Shaq and AI laid out who’d be the perfect players of their era to join them in a starting five lineup. While doing so, O’Neal begrudgingly chose Dennis Rodman as the ideal power forward The self-proclaimed GOAT of athlete-rappers, who played with Rodman briefly as a Los Angeles Laker, then proceeded to tell his wild story about his old teammate’s supposed hygiene habits:

Well, if this is all true and I wouldn’t expect Shaquille O’Neal to lie), that all sounds… unsanitary. I mean, seriously, the notion of someone playing a tough game, not hitting the shower afterward and living it up with the ladies is foul (no basketball pun intended). The sense of disgust in O’Neal’s voice – which you can hear by watching the YouTube clip – is definitely apparent. And, when asked by Adam Lefkoe whether he slightly shaded “The Worm” due to his luck with the ladies, Shaq made his disdain clear:

Seriously, some of the stories that have been told about the heavily tattooed and pierced Dennis Rodman are legendary at this point. Some of them were even documented in The Last Dance docuseries (which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription). One of the most infamous tales may be Rodman’s 48-hour trip to Las Vegas – which he took during the 1998 NBA Finals! As his former wife – the seemingly ageless Carmen Electra – explained in the doc, Rodman’s former Chicago Bulls teammate, Michael Jordan, had to come and scoop him up.

The former Defensive Player of the Year was (and remains) eccentric, though he could definitely play basketball, which is why he has five NBA championship rings to his name. It’s also interesting to hear him talk about his own experiences and weigh in on basketball related matters. In just the past few years, I’ve enjoyed hearing him talk about the differences between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, who heaped particular praise on. “Dennis the Menace” also opined not long after that Pippen and Jordan would squash their beef, which has been ongoing for several years now.

I’m not sure if I’m actually better for knowing that a shower apparently wasn’t part of Dennis Rodman’s typical postgame routine. Nevertheless, it does serve as another surprising detail about someone who can be considered one of the most entertaining figures in all of sports. Now, I’d love for Rodman and Shaquille O’Neal to have a one-on-one chat, and I’m really hoping that happens.

Apparently, Hardaway found out that information while speaking to the press amid the 1996 Summer Olympics. The former point guard did, however, say that he and O’Neal discussed the development after the fact. When sharing why he believed the Diesel opted to sign with the Lakers, Hardaway said the following:

CinemaBlend was fortunate enough to catch up with Jeanie Buss at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where she was promoting Women of Wrestling, which she co-owns, alongside her colleagues. During the discussion, we relayed Penny Hardaway’s comments to her, which generated a bit of a chuckle. Buss – whose father, the late Dr. Jerry Buss, previously owned the Lakers – then proceeded to discuss how her NBA team signed Shaq back in the early aughts:

The championship-winning NBA owner seemed relatively jovial when answering our question. She didn’t flat-out deny the notion that major celebrities factored in when late GM Jerry West was courting the Steel star. However, her tone seems to suggest that she thinks the idea of that is somewhat humorous and that she has no knowledge of any such situation involving the stars.

Regardless of how Shaquille O’Neal was convinced to sign with the Lakers, most can certainly agree that his time there was mostly fruitful (regardless of any dysfunction he and ex-teammate Kobe Bryant had). I’d like to think that Jeanie Buss, like so many others, is very glad that O’Neal decided to sign with the team. As for whether, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore or anyone else truly played a role in the talent acquisition, I’d be curious to hear if anyone else backs up or disagrees with Penny Hardaway.

For three years, Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal were one of the most electric on-court duos in professional basketball. O’Neal’s dominant abilities in the post and Hardaway’s smooth ball-handling skills made them a true force to be reckoned with. Some might even say that together, they made magic. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist). Hardaway appeared on the The Compass Circle podcast, where he recalled key moments from his life and career. When asked about any professional regrets he has, Hardaway admitted he wishes he could’ve won a championship, and that’s when he reflected on O’Neal’s exit:

Over the past several decades, many have wondered what could’ve been had Shaq not signed with the Lakers. He and Penny Hardaway did lead their team to the NBA Finals in 1995, though they were swept by the Hakeem Olajuwon-led Houston Rockets. So some have argued that in time, the two All-Stars could’ve led the Magic to a title. As for the factors that motivated the former center to leave the team, Hardaway partially attributed that to some Hollywood A-listers. While it can’t be said with absolute certainty that the likes of former spouses Demi Moore and Bruce Willis (who were at the peak of their careers at that time) helped late Lakers legend Jerry West recruit Shaq, it would make sense. There have been plenty of occasions on which notable celebrities have been utilized to help attract free agents in different sports. (James Gandolfini even reprised Tony Soprano as part of an attempt to get LeBron James to sign with the New York Knicks. Ultimately, efforts to draw O’Neal to LA were successful, and his time there was (mostly fruitful).

Shaquille O’Neal’s Time With The Lakers Was Eventful

As a member of the Lakers, Shaquille O’Neal was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, selected for multiple All-Star teams and earned a host of other accolades. Of course, he – alongside Kobe Bryant – led the franchise to three consecutive championships between 2000 and 2002. O’Neal was also named the MVP of those three series.

Shaquille O’Neal is easily one of the greatest basketball players to ever set foot on a court, and he’s also arguably one of the most outspoken athletes the world has ever seen. The player-turned-media personality rarely ever holds back his thoughts on a subject, and that’s particularly true when it comes to rumors. One particular claim that’s apparently been floating around as of late is that O’Neal banned The View’s Joy Behar from one of the eateries he owns. So, when the Diesel himself appeared on the talk show, he didn’t hold back, even humorously calling out friend and colleague Charles Barkley on air. 

The 52-year-old four-time NBA appeared on the long-running talk show just recently to promote his new ABC game show, Lucky 13. Before he and the panel of pundits got down to the nitty gritty though, 81-year-old Joy Behar wanted to discuss the rumor that she’d been kicked out of one of Shaq’s Big Chicken restaurants. The former Los Angeles Laker quickly make a blunt – but humorous – declaration before Behar could get into her spiel: 

Jokes like that aside though, the Steel star has proven to be a generous person. 2022 alone saw Shaq pay the bill for an entire restaurant and donate money towards the victims of the shooting at Tops Friendly Markets. The pair’s exchange would certainly seem to indicate that this whole situation is simply water under the bridge at this point as far as Shaquille O’Neal and Joy Behar are concerned. Though O’Neal may or may not still have a bone to pick with Charles Barkley, though. Considering Barkley’s personality, I’m sure he’d be hilariously unbothered by that. If anything, O’Neal’s recent call-out makes me pine for new episodes of Inside the NBA, which may be cancelled after this upcoming season. Like so many others, I’m hoping that’s not the case, but only time will tell. (In the meantime, I'd expect fans to keep posting funny clips of Barkley and Shaq from past episodes as a way of rallying behind the series.)

At present, it’s just sweet that Joy Behar and Shaq cleared up the confusion regarding that rumor. If I were Joy Behar, I’d definitely make good use of that pass. The Big Chicken menu has some delicious-looking entrees so, needless to say, Behar is quite lucky to have that card.

Social media has created a number of viral stars over the years, as said individuals have said or done some wild things to earn popularity. However, I’m not sure anyone could’ve predicted how one of the latest Internet sensations would earn her fame. Hailey Welch – who’s now widely known as the “Hawk Tuah” girl – earned notoriety for some NSFW comments she made during a (wo)man-on-the-street interview. Now that she’s earned fame, she’s been crossing paths with stars, and even recently had a major moment at a Zach Bryan concert. After that, she also caught up with none other than Shaquille O’Neal and, unsurprisingly, she spent some time spitting around him.

Hailey Welch – who’s a native of Nashville – was on tap when Zach Bryan performed in the city this past Saturday. The 21-year-old social media phenom was apparently living it up during the event alongside other concert goers. But, if that weren’t enough, Bryan eventually invited her to perform on stage with him. The two sang a rendition of the musician’s tune, “Revival,” and part of the performance was captured by Barstool Sports on X. You can check out a clip down below:

Per Page Six, the rising starlet missed several of the lyrics while belting out the track, but the people in the audience were too hyped to notice. She also signed off by giving a “Hawk Tuah” to the crowd. And, if that experience weren’t crazy enough, last Sunday, the young lady lived it up with Shaq, who was performing at JBJ’s Nashville, which is owned by Jon Bon Jovi. The former basketball player was performing there under his DJ alias, DJ Diesel, and the social media star joined him in the booth. That night, she got the mic and addressed the crowd, saying her signature phrase and even getting spit in the microphone in the process as. The ex-Los Angeles Laker – who considers himself the GOAT of athlete-rappers – also took some photos during that evening and shared them to X:

For those who aren’t in the know, Hailey Welch received her infamous moniker after appearing in a video interview done by Tim & Dee TV. Welch, who was outside a bar with a friend at the time was asked, “What’s one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?” She responded by saying, “You gotta give ’em that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thang! You get me?” Needless to say, her brutally honest comment made an impression and, now, Welch is so famous that she has signed with Penthouse management firm, according to THR. There have been plenty of meteoric social media-induced rises to fame, but this one just takes the cake.

Some may be surprised that Shaq was kicking it with the “Hawk Tuah” girl but, if you’re somewhat familiar with the four-time NBA champion, it shouldn’t be too shocking honestly. He’s long shown that he’s a man that keeps up with the latest in pop culture, as evidenced by the conversations he’s had on podcasts over the years. He’s talked about the supposed beef between Will Smith and Chris Rock following the 2022 Oscars as well as the time that Kanye West moved next door to his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. The hall of famer has even shared more serious thoughts on more delicate matters, including Adam Levine’s alleged cheating scandal.

If you ask me, this run-in is just another reason why Shaquille O’Neal needs to remain on TV. He’s currently a co-host on Inside the NBA, which may be cancelled after this upcoming basketball season. While O’Neal is about to co-host ABC’s Lucky 13 game show, which will debut as part of the 2024 TV schedule this year, I’d love to see him do more pop culture-related endeavors. Heck, give him a talk show where he can welcome eclectic guests like Hailey Welch or Jake Paul.

My ramblings about Mr. O’Neal’s future on TV aside though, what one really has to look out for more immediately is how Hailey Welch’s star might continue to rise. I can’t say how much longevity she’ll ultimately have. But, based on her encounters with Shaq and Zach Bryan, I wager she’ll enjoy her time in the sun for as long as she can.

As of late, all signs have pointed to the cancellation of Inside the NBA, as Warner Bros. Discovery and TNT will likely lose the broadcast rights to the league. With that, the long-running sports talk show would end after the 2024-2025 season. Fans have been making their voices heard amid the uncertainty, and they’ve expressed dissatisfaction with the series’ reported demise. They’ve also paid tribute to the program by sharing memories as well as funny clips of Charles Barkley, Shaq and more. More recently, a newer video of those two particular pundits has gone viral, making fans upset again over the show being axed.

What Clip Is Going Viral, And How Are Fans Reacting To It?

Inside’s latest season ended just a few weeks ago, at which time the show’s quartet of commentators were covering the Western Conference Finals series between the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves. At one point during a broadcast, Charles Barkley spoke about how hot the weather was in the former city, saying that he wasn’t even able to complete his usual walk. Shaquille O’Neal then chimed in with a sly joke regarding pizza, and you can see it for yourself down below:

That’s just classic Shaq and Chuck if you ask me and, quite frankly, you love to see it. As a longtime viewer, I can think of a number of instances in which the two hall of famers have poked fun at each other, and the results are typically hilarious. Based on the various comments under the video, fans are appreciating the comedy as well. Some attested to the extreme heat (as well as Sir Charles’ fondness for pizza). I’d be lying if I said my feelings weren’t somewhat close to the viewers above. The notion of not seeing Ernie Johnson, Kenny “The Jet Smith, Shaq and Charles Barkley on Thursday nights is weird. Nevertheless, it seems to be a real possibility unless something changes on the business end of the situation.

Why Is Inside The NBA On The Verge Of Cancellation And What Have The Hosts Said About It?

The broadcast rights to the NBA are set to be distributed amongst Amazon, ABC/ESPN and NBC, with the third of those entities swooping in after Warner opted not to pay the high costs. By the end of May, it was reported that WBD still had a chance to make a bid, though that window seems to be closing as time pushes on. Throughout this period of uncertainty the stars of Inside have mostly remained quiet on the matter, but Charles Barkley has said wild things about it.

Back in May, the “Round Mound of Rebound” got honest about why it “sucks” that the show will end. The former Phoenix Sun isn’t so much concerned about himself but the various employees that he’s worked with over the years, who don’t have the money he possesses. It has seemed apparent that the powers that be would prefer him not to speak during this time. Yet the star was so passionate about the situation that he even pulled a reporter into an elevator for an unauthorized interview to make his case. The outspoken media personality doesn’t seem to care all that much, though, especially given the announcement he just made.

Charles Barkley is officially retiring from TV after next season regardless of what happens with Inside the NBA, and fans were in their feelings over that. The silver lining is that this next year could make for an excellent send-off season for Barkley, Shaq and their colleagues. But it will still be sad to see them go. With that, we’ll just have to relish the time we still have with them on air and appreciate a clip like the “pizza” one any time one hits the web.

This summer has seen the rejuvenation of the aging action hero. Not Ryan Gosling. He’s perfectly fine as The Fall Guy. But the box office recently was dominated by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, two guys who first started playing the Bad Boys in 1995. And this Fourth of July, a period that ironically once was dominated by Smith, we will be returning with Eddie Murphy to the glamorous neighborhood of Beverly Hills for a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie, subtitled Axel F. It’ll be available on Netflix, one of the best streaming services available.

But what if it was called Shaq-sel F? That’s the premise of an hilarious new promo video that the ever-entertaining Shaquille O’Neal recorded for Netflix in which he donned Axel Foley’s iconic Detroit Lions jacket and pretended he was auditioning for Beverly Hills Cop. Shaq is gold. This is hysterical.

Shaquille O’Neal never was considered for the role of Axel Foley in the original Beverly Hills Cop. But do you know who was? Sylvester Stallone! Which makes sense on a certain level. Axel Foley is a Detroit Cop who follows a lead out to California when his close friend is murdered. With Stallone in the lead, that becomes way more like Cobra. Cast Eddie Murphy, fresh off of 48 Hours and Saturday Night Live, and you end up with  something far more fresh, funny, and long-lasting.

I also kind of love, in the Shaquille O’Neal promo video, that he uses a banana as a gun that’s hiding out in his pocket. It instantly calls to mind the prank that Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley pulled on two cops in the original Beverly HIlls Cop who were supposed to be tailing him. The old “banana in the tailpipe” routine. Classic.

Will audiences be primed for Eddie Murphy to return to Axel Foley in the fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie? A lot of time has passed since 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop 3, but that movie left a bad taste in the mouth of franchise fans, as it didn’t live up to the standard set by the original movie and its superior sequel (directed by the great Tony Scott). We have a lot of familiar faces rejoining Murphy in this sequel, including Judge Reinhold, Bronson Pinchot, Paul Reiser, and Johns Ashton. But we also get new characters joining the series… including an interesting new villain. Look for the latest Beverly Hills Cop story once it lands on Netflix beginning on July 3.

Much has been said about the supposed cancellation of TNT’s Inside the NBA as of late amid the continuing negotiations for the broadcast rights to the professional basketball league. At present, multiple entertainment entities are vying for a piece of the pie, and it’s looking more likely that Warner Bros. Discovery (which owns the aforementioned network). With that, it’s looking more likely that the conglomerate won’t have the necessary cash to renew its deal with the league. The co-hosts of the show themselves have remained relatively quiet about the road ahead, though Charles Barkley has had no problem weighing in. To that point, he even took an interview to an elevator to share more thoughts on why this situation is a huge deal.

For anyone who has followed the “Round Mound of Rebound’s” playing and broadcasting careers, it’s probably not surprising to hear that he’s been open about Inside’s uncertain future. Nevertheless, I’m not sure anyone would’ve predicted the lengths he would go to speak his piece on the subject. Following Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference Finals in Minneapolis last week, he was so eager to speak with a New York Times reporter that he ushered her into an elevator for a chat. The hall of famer’s colleagues were also apparently in the lift at the time. 

Tania Ganguli noted in her write-up that Charles Barkley’s co-workers weren’t too comfortable with the situation. Kenny “The Jet” Smith was allegedly very unhappy with the situation. He argued that Ganguli should’ve gone through the proper channels (mainly Turner Broadcasting) before conducting an interview. Amid the chat, Barkley apparently responded to Smith by saying, “Hey, man, I can talk to who I want to,” and purportedly used an expletive when making his point. When explaining to Ganguli why he felt so inclined to speak to her, he cited his peers who work behind the scenes: 

The former NBA MVP shared similar thoughts during another interview, where he declared that the current situation “sucks.” During that interview with SiriusXM, he emphasized that he personally has “enough money” but cares about his co-workers who would lose their jobs. The ex-Phoenix Sun’s comments arrive as TNT has allegedly opted not to schedule interviews for the Inside the NBA’s quartet of hosts. Later in his talk with the Times, the 61-year-old TV personality added another thought:

As for the negotiations, the league is reportedly aiming to finalize deals with Amazon Prime Video, ABC/ESPN and NBC for the three slices of the broadcast rights. The third of those entertainment entities managed to swoop in with a pricey bid after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to pay, as it was reportedly taken aback by the inflated cost for the rights. As of right now, its current deal with the NBA expires after the 2024-2025 season, meaning that if a new agreement isn’t reached, Inside would end around this time next year. 

Fans have shared various messages in social media in support of the show, which debuted in 1989. A number of them have been trying to make the case for the sports staple’s existence by sharing funny clips from Inside the NBA’s run. Others have also (somewhat) made peace with the notion that there may be only one more season on the way. They’ve even found the obvious silver lining in that a send-off season could see the analysts go all out with the wackiness. And, honestly, such a slate of episodes could feature wilder antics than Shaq getting shoved into a Christmas tree or Chuck discussing the “big women of San Antonio.” 

Various people are sure to have thoughts on Charles Barkley’s latest round of comments and the unconventional way in which he shared them. What seems more than evident is that he isn’t going to back down from sharing his feelings, though. And that appears to be particularly when it comes to how Inside the NBA’s cancellation would impact other staff members.

It’s been a somewhat sad time for basketball fans, as it has looked very likely that a beloved sports show is on its way out the door. TNT’s Inside the NBA will reportedy be canceled, as the network’s parent company is close to losing the broadcast rights to the sports league after the 2024-2025 season. With that, numerous fans (including myself) have expressed disappointment over the prospect of no longer seeing Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley and co. on Thursday nights during the regular season. As furious as some longtime viewers are, though, many seem to agree that there’s an obvious silver lining to be found within this situation. 

What Is The Theorized Benefit Of The Basketball Show Going Off The Air?

Anyone who’s ever watched Inside the NBA probably knows that it’s a relatively wild show. Yes, the quartet of hosts do provide thoughtful commentary and analysis on the game of basketball. However, there are also wilder (and quite frankly, laugh-out-loud) moments that end up going viral. Charles Barkley getting pranked with a bucket of water, and Shaquille O’Neal being flung into a Christmas tree are just two moments that come to mind. (And let’s not even get into the craziness of Barkley discussing the “big women of San Antonio.”) 

Now, moments like that sound wacky enough, but what people seem to be asking themselves now is – how much crazier might the show be if the hosts know they’ll be off the air soon. For context, should the series receive the ax, it would end after the 2024-2025 NBA season, and the four hosts would be well aware that they’d soon be riding into the sunset. So devoted viewers are hoping that with that knowledge in mind, Shaq, “Chuck,” Ernie Johnson and Kenny “The Jet” Smith will go for a no-holds-barred approach to the season. To me, that seems simultaneously reckless and exciting. And based on some comments shared to X, I’m not the only one who likes the idea:

The sheer thought of the lead stars not having a care in the world amid a send-off season is just too funny not to consider. It would definitely be bittersweet, given it would be fans’ last go-around with them, but the Inside crew would surely make it a season to remember. Charles Barkley and Shaq’s antics are funny as is, but I can’t even imagine what they’d do when knowing that they’d be going off the air anyway.

Why Is Inside The NBA Probably Ending After Nearly Four Decades On TNT?

The demise of Inside has to do with finances, as the stakes for the broadcast rights to the NBA are shifting. Amazon Prime is reportedly working on a deal with the league to have games air on the streamer. Meanwhile, ABC/ESPN is working to maintain its pricey “A” package to maintain its ability to continue broadcasting the games. 

That leaves one more piece of the pie up for grabs, and some might likely think that Warner Bros. Discovery – which owns TNT – would seek to land it with its current deal expiring after next season. However, faced with an increased price tag for the rights, WBD reportedly refused to pair, opening the door for NBC to swoop in and stake its claim. It seems unlikely that WBD, which is in debt right now, will be able to match NBC’s offer, when presented with the opportunity. The company’s current options are to forsake the league, overpay for the rights or take the NBA to court to dispute the definition of an exact price “match.”

Amid the drama, a few of the hosts themselves have spoken out. Shaquille O’Neal was previously optimistic that WBD CEO David Zaslav would find a way to maintain the rights. Charles Barkley wasn’t as optimistic about that, and he later opened up about why the situation “sucks” and expressed concern for his co-workers, who would be out of work. Though since the cancellation news dropped, Barkley has made jokes, even making the declaration (in a clip shared to X) that he’s currently on LinkedIn. And that just adds fuel to the notion that a send-off season could be too funny.

It’s tough to imagine a season of professional basketball that doesn’t include Inside the NBA. Still, if the show does reach the end of its run in 2025, a wild, “we’re going out with a bang” season is still a somewhat sweet consolation prize.

Basketball aficionados have been enjoying NBA games for over 75 years and, for well over three decades, many of those events have been accompanied by Inside the NBA. In that time, the long-running sports talk show has provided viewers with invaluable insights into the sport as well as some truly hilarious moments involving its co-hosts. It’s hard to imagine not seeing Ernie Johnson, Kenny “The Jet” Smith, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley together during a broadcast. However, that may soon become a reality, as the show could finally end at TNT next year. With that, fans are sharing their favorite clips from the program’s lengthy run, and Barkley and Shaq’s antics are still cracking me up.

What Are Inside The NBA Fans Sharing On Social Media?

The TV show has developed a serious following while it’s been on the air all this time, so I’m not totally surprised that so many people are showing love as its future remains uncertain. X is currently filled with fans who are reaching out with clips in an attempt to convey why it would be a shame if the program ended. One such person made a clear declaration on the matter while sharing a video of Shaq and Charles Barkley. In it, the two hall of farmers hilarious reacted to the “police presence” required after the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets’ locker room scuffle in 2018: 

I have to say, I’m not sure that we’d be better off as a society without Inside the NBA. It’s a serious breath of fresh air at the end of a week during the regular season. And Shaquille O’Neal and Sir Charles’ exploits. Whether it be O’Neal getting shoved into a Christmas tree or Chuck getting pranked with a bucket of water, these two are a riot while on air. Another user shared an additional clip highlighting the two, and it involved the both of them reading off a promo for another TNT show:

What you see above is the kind of hysterical moment that makes this one of the most unique sports commentary series on TV. It may be hard to believe, but the game of basketball is just one of the many topics the quartet of pundits discuss. They discuss pop culture and other subjects, with Charles Barkley even asking about DMs and how one slides into them. Speaking of Barkley, he once shared a wild story about how he received a bracelet and, thankfully, another fan dropped that online as well: 

The “Round Mound of Rebound” has no problem speaking his mind and has proven that on a number of occasions, to humorous effect. He most recently did that when discussing the New Orleans Pelicans’ elimination from the 2024 playoffs. Check out what he said about not sending the team off to Cancún for the offseason:

Seriously, I’m not sure I could handle moments like that not being on my TV screen on a weekly basis. All in all, these tributes to the show are excellent, but they also serve as a sad reminder of what so many of us might be losing. 

Why Might Inside The NBA Come To An End?

As reported by The Athletic and other outlets in late April, Amazon Prime Video has reached a deal with the NBA that would give it some of the broadcast rights to the league. ESPN/ABC have a deal in the works that would keep the entertainment entity in the mix as well. That leaves NBC and TNT vying for the last portion of those rights, and it’s looking likely that the former may have the leg up over the latter, which has a deal with the league that ends after the 2024-2025 season. 

Both Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal recently missed time on the show in order to travel to New York to help pitch ad buyers during TNT Sports’ Upfront spiel, per Fox Sports Michael McCarthy on X. Amid the proceedings, the two caught up with DailyMail, and Shaq expressed optimism that a deal would be struck. However, Barkley, who renewed his contract with the network in  didn’t seem quite as bullish: 

If you’re like me, then you’re also probably worried about what might happen, an official announcement should arrive sooner rather than later. While Inside the NBA has had a good run, there are clearly many hoping that they’ll continue to see Charles Barkley, Shaq and co. on their screens amid the 2024 TV schedule and beyond.

Charles Barkley may be best known for what he did on the basketball court in the 1980s and ‘90s, but he’s also become pretty famous for having strong opinions. It’s surprising, then, that the NBA icon is only just now learning how to render those opinions on social media. But just because Barkley is ready to share his wild thoughts about coffee and other topics with the world, that doesn’t mean he’s got a full grasp of the technology just yet, and he got absolutely roasted by Shaquille O’Neal and their colleagues.

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are as funny as any two people you’ll see on TV, so it was to be expected that when the former Phoenix Sun announced during an Inside the NBA segment that he’d joined Instagram, the self-appointed GOAT of athlete-rappers had something to say. Shaq reminded him that for over a decade Barkley had sworn he wouldn’t go on social media. After Barkley explained he needed it “for business purposes,” Kenny Smith asked him if he was going to be sliding into people’s DMs, to which Sir Charles responded: 

That statement was met with immediate rejection, as they all agreed Charles Barkley learning how to slide would be the “worst possible thing you could ever do in your position.” That wasn’t the end of the conversation, though, as they continued: 

• Adam Lefkoe: Can we ask what you think sliding into the DMs means?
• Charles Barkley: When you try to get somebody a message.

Shaquille O’Neal led a round of applause, as they admitted that was pretty close, and Kenny Smith went on to hilariously explain: 

I’m sure at some point the quartet actually did discuss basketball, but who knows how many people learned something from this DM tutorial? Inside the NBA really is doing the Lord’s work.

Shaq then quizzed Chuck on how he would add something to his Instagram Stories, forcing the social media newbie to admit that he had not actually used it himself yet and instead had team members posting for him for the time being. As you can imagine, this began a whole new round of ribbing.

Kenny Smith was only too happy to remind the Round Mound of Rebound of his former stance on social media, as he did his best Charles Barkley impression to say:

The laughs on Inside the NBA are nonstop, particularly when things get competitive amongst the analysts (once causing Shaquille O’Neal to get shoved into a tree), and the roasts tend to come just as often. Shaq even once fired a shot at Charles Barkley when sharing how he knew he needed to lose some weight. 

I’m sure there is only more hilarity to come, especially with Charles Barkley now able to bestow his wisdom upon the entire Internet.
