Back in 2022, Colin Jost had the wild idea to buy a Staten Island Ferry with SNL alum Pete Davidson. To save it from going to the scrapyard, the proud owners of the merchant vessel had plans to transform that space into a live entertainment venue with the possibility of restaurants, clubs, bars, and even hotel rooms. Now, while that plan is in motion, the jokes about it haven't stopped. Recently, in fact, the Weekend Update anchor pitched his ferry as if he were on Shark Tank.

Now, if you're curious how Colin Jost and Davidson’s ferry is coming along, I'm pleased to report that they've done some events on it, and it's all going well. However, now, the Pop Culture Jeopardy! host is humorously trying to make this even bigger, as he gave a Shark Tank-like pitch to Today with Jenna & Sheinelle about how much further they can go with their Staten Island Ferry:

You’ve gotta love the humor in Colin Jost’s pitch. Considering that the ferry was originally $280,000, asking for $40 million is quite ambitious if he was for real. Then again, he and Pete Davidson had other crazy ideas for the large ship, like jokingly calling it Titanic 2. However, overall, this is just a very, very funny joke about this fascinating business venture.

But wait, there's more. Just when you thought asking the sharks to fund $40 million for a $280,000 ferry was asking a lot, Jost had a backup plan if his investment idea fell through that's just as far-fetched:

Ferry Bucks, huh? That would certainly be one way to generate the revenue he needs for his Staten Island Ferry. Would they have Colin Jost and Pete Davidson’s faces on them? That would get a real chuckle out of investors! Now, you can watch the comedian’s funny pitch in full below:

It may not have been on my bingo card to see Colin Jost go full Shark Tank on his Staten Island Ferry wager, but I’ll take it! Again, while he was joking, I would love to know if anyone is interested in investing in Jost and Davidson's ferry.

If you’ve watched Shark Tank on the 2026 TV schedule or during its nearly two-decade run, you already know Barbara Corcoran doesn’t suffer fools or do anything halfway. She’s bold, theatrical, and always thinking three steps ahead. So it probably shouldn’t be shocking that one of her most infamous stunts involved tricking friends, guests, and, briefly, even Wikipedia into thinking she had died.

The real estate mogul recently revisited the story on her Instagram, where she shared a photo from her 70th birthday celebration and explained how the chaos unfolded. Rather than letting friends throw her a traditional surprise party, Corcoran learned about the plan ahead of time and decided to flip the script in the most Barbara Corcoran way possible. She explained:

Now that is one way to mark another year on this planet: by pretending you’re ready to take a dirt nap. It’s full-on Tom and Huck–level buffoonery, the kind that makes you clutch your pearls and mutter, “For that reason, I’m out!” Actually, no, this is incredible. I fully support the chaos. Though the Shark Tank star was famously duped out of 400K in an email scheme. Cosmic karma? Who's to say?

According to the longtime ABC fixture, guests were told she’d be “entering” from downstairs, only to discover her casually reclining inside a coffin, as if this were the most normal entrance imaginable. Honestly, its a masterclass in committing to the bit and you have to see the pictures for yourself to believe it. Luckily for you, the mogul posted receipts in the form of a photo.

And yes, for a brief, glorious moment, Barbara Corcoran was technically dead—at least according to the internet. Wikipedia reportedly took the stunt at face value, which somehow makes the whole thing even funnier. But as Barbara herself once said, “The difference between successful people and others is how long they spend feeling sorry for themselves.” So don’t mourn the briefly deceased. She’s very much alive, thriving, and clearly having the time of her life—both the current and the after.

For longtime Shark Tank fans, this humorous little anecdote rings true, as the self-made entrepreneur has always thrived on confidence a refusal to play it safe. Turning your milestone birthday into a theatrical fake-out, complete with a coffin and a couture gown, is simply an extension of that mindset.

For 16 seasons on ABC — and a 17th set to hit the 2025 TV schedule later this year — Shark Tank has been helping entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground. Barbara Corcoran has been an instrumental part of that, but it turns out that wasn’t always the plan. The businesswoman revealed that someone else was originally the frontrunner for her spot on the show, and she lobbied hard to get the job — even name-dropping Donald Trump.

Barbara Corcoran said she knew immediately that the Shark Tank role was a perfect fit for her, so when she heard that producer Mark Burnett had “asked another girl to dance,” she fired off an email that laid out exactly why she should not be overlooked. She shared that letter on Facebook, explaining to fans:

So just how loudly did she knock? Barbara Corcoran wrote that she considered Shark Tank’s rejection a “lucky charm,” as all of her biggest successes had come on the heels of rejection. She proceeded to list a few examples, including a teacher who called her “stupid” because of her dyslexia and the New York real estate moguls who locked her out because she was a woman. Then she dropped one pretty big name:

Well there you go. If you’re going to name-drop somebody for a job, it doesn’t get much bigger than “The Donald,” aka the star of another Mark Burnett-produced reality show The Apprentice (who, of course, went on to become President of the United States), and I’m sure it didn’t hurt that the courtroom incident in question came amidst her reportedly “saving his ass.”

Barbara Corcoran obviously got the job and has since appeared in every season of Shark Tank to date. She’s invested in well over a hundred products and services, including a big deal with Coverplay in Season 1 and other businesses like The Comfy and Daisy Cakes in the years that followed. Who knows what would have happened to those entrepreneurs if she hadn’t fought for her spot on the show ahead of its 2009 premiere?

She — like fellow shark Daymond John — has stayed committed to the show even through challenging economic times, and it’s no surprise she’s got strong opinions about who the best guest shark ever was.

Shark Tank Season 17 premieres at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, September 24, on ABC and will be available on streaming the next day with a Hulu subscription.

Shark Tank has been around for a long time, with the series making or breaking many entrepreneurial hopefuls. Over the years, the reality series has seen numerous celebrity judges too as they decide whether or not to invest in an invention. In 2022, comedian Kevin Hart tried out a new career as a Shark, and Barbara Corcoran admitted he was the best guest Shark ever. So watch out Mark Cuban, there's another top shark in town. 

Hart appeared as a guest Shark on the Season 13 finale, and he was acting like he knew exactly what he was doing. If being a comedian never worked out, he definitely could have joined the Sharks or even started his own business. While appearing on Sherri, longtime Shark Corcoran revealed that Hart was not what they expected and that he is a true businessman:

Although the Borderlands star has mostly stuck to comedy, it sounds like he might have found another calling. He has done some work outside of stand-up and acting, like hosting. He has also switched from comedy to drama with The Upside in 2019. He's a multi-hyphenate if you ask me, and it just shows how talented he really is. Any comedian, or any person in general, that is able to get out of their comfort zone and do something completely different but still fit right in is a skill like no other.

Meanwhile, Deadline revealed the lineup of guest Sharks for Season 15, which is airing on the 2023 TV schedule. Among those temporarily joining Shark Tank include Jason Blum, Michael Rubin, Candace Nelson, and Daniel Lubetzky, among others. While they are all business people, the series has seen a lot of entertainers and athletes alongside Hart putting in their two cents, such as Alex Rodriguez, Ashton Kutcher, and Bethenny Frankel. It’s always exciting when celebrities are on Shark Tank, and sometimes they can surprise you, like Hart did.

Longtime Shark Mark Cuban recently announced that he would be exiting Shark Tank after Season 16. As of now, a replacement has yet to be revealed. It would be fun to see Hart back on the show, even if not permanently since he has a lot of other projects to focus on. Perhaps the series could see rotating celebrity guests, just like Jeopardy! until it finds a formidable replacement. Whoever does join Shark Tank next would never be able to replace Cuban, but it would be entertaining if an unexpected celebrity were to join. 

Hopefully, Kevin Hart will make a return to Shark Tank when it airs on the 2024 TV schedule because it’s obvious that he's a formidable businessman, and Shark Tank is the perfect opportunity to show the world that. With Mark Cuban leaving, you never know what could happen. While Hart might have gotten rejected from Saturday Night Live, Shark Tank is evidently where it’s at.

As Shark Tank hits the major milestone of 300 episodes on television, the time is right to look back on the show's impressive run and the Sharks who have been a part of it. Daymond John is one of the originals and has been there since the beginning. While others have come and gone over the years, he’s still committed despite these “very challenging times.” 

CinemaBlend had the honor of speaking to Daymond John right on the heels of his appearance on Season 8 of The Masked Singer, and he spoke about his long run on Shark Tank. When I asked if he’s given any thought to when he might decide to leave the ABC series, the business mogul explained he doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon for a very good reason: 

Daymond John may take some time off to rub shoulders with other celebrities unmasked on The Masked Singer, but he’s planning on sticking around on Shark Tank for a while. With "challenging times" for people across the country, many will hustle to try and carve out a new life for themselves and their families with great ideas. Some of those folks may be lucky enough to make a deal with John and the others, or at least get the exposure to better their chances at success. 

For now, it doesn’t seem like Daymond John is going anywhere, but the Shark acknowledged that his time is coming sooner or later. John noted to CinemaBlend that while he’s enjoyed his time on Shark Tank, he'll eventually have to step aside for a like-minded but potentially younger mogul. He said:

Daymond John joined Shark Tank at the very beginning and currently sits alongside Barbara Corcoran, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary, Mark Cuban, and Lori Greiner. The show is in Season 14, and will reach the 300-episode mark with the next episode on October 21. 

Hitting 300 episodes is quite an achievement for any series, but definitely special for one that has run on network television since 2009 and continued through major events like the pandemic. They’ve even found time to welcome celebrities like Kevin Hart, who is funny, if perhaps not as experienced at business as the other Sharks (or as cutthroat). 

And Shark Tank is still going strong, since it doesn’t look like the ride is ending anytime soon. Provided there’s someone out there looking to get rich off a new product (and richer people looking to bankroll that idea for a cut of the profits), this series could potentially go on forever. Whether or not it does, the current library is available streaming to anyone with a Hulu subscription.

The Masked Singer Season 8 is underway, but longtime fans almost certainly noticed the major changes. The new format, which allows for more reveals at the cost of less time to guess, received a polarizing reception amongst the online fandom and is certainly taking some getting used to. With that said, recent contestant and Shark Tank mainstay Daymond John apparently doesn't see the changes as a problem, as he has addressed how the magic of the show is still there. 

I spoke to Daymond John following his exit episode on The Masked Singer and asked the business mogul about what’s special about the Fox series that led to its longevity on primetime. John shared his thoughts on the series, and acknowledged some of the backlash at the beginning with the format change:

People watch The Masked Singer for the clues and the big reveals of who is under the mask, but Daymond John offered an additional perspective that makes me want to revisit the past seasons with a Hulu subscription. John spoke about the human element involved in it all, and while that may not be top of the mind for those who watch, it’s certainly a factor. 

The Masked Singer does often touch on vulnerability, which could be anything from a celebrity with a hidden singing talent we didn’t know about or even moments of vulnerability in their career. This season, Montell Jordan spoke about his reaction to seeing how fans largely only knew him from his hit song after an internet death hoax. There’s also Eric Idle, who used the platform to announce his successful battle and private struggle with pancreatic cancer. 

Daymond John continued to talk about the vulnerable element to The Masked Singer, and likened it to the hit series he’s a part of: Shark Tank. John revealed that the concept pulled him in, and made him realize that it’s similar to what others do when they come on his show:

The business mogul gave it the good old college try, and while he made it through the first round, he wasn’t able to hold his own in the Battle Royale. It didn’t take a Fortune Teller to foresee that his time on the show was coming to an end once Harp started singing, and that he was yet another one-and-done episode contestant for the season (check out the full list of reveals so far here). John noted to CinemaBlend that his expectations for competing were low, however, so there were no hard feelings in losing out to Harp. 

The Masked Singer airs on Fox on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Season 8 is cruising right along, but now that Harp is officially in the semi-finals, fans will finally get a new group to further evaluate the new format and decide for themselves how they feel about it. 

Great timing and sharp jokes are part of Whoopi Goldberg’s arsenal as a comedian. She knows how to roll with the punches, and The View host has gone toe to toe with her co-hosts and guests plenty of times. More recently, Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran tried to give Goldberg that same energy and failed in a big way, as she attempted to make a fat joke at the comedian's expense. Now, following the backlash the comment received, Corcoran has posted an apology.

Fans of The View didn’t take too well to Barbara Corcoran’s comment after hearing it on air. They went after the businesswoman online, leading her to hop on Twitter. The host said in her apology to the TV host and viewers:

The Shark Tank veteran seemed to be genuinely sorry about the failed quip. Barbara Corcoran did mention that she and the Ghost star have been friends for years. So one would imagine that the two women are comfortable and familiar enough with each other to make those kinds of jokes. Still, even if that is the case, that doesn't mean such humor will be accepted by the masses. Check out the full Twitter apology below:

The incident occurred while Barbara Corcoran and her fShark Tank cohorts were visiting The View. While they were promoting the ABC competition series’ new season, Whoopi Goldberg and her co-hosts congratulated the group on adding the first Black female Shark, Emma Grede. After commenting on Grede’s jeans brand, Goldberg stated she wouldn’t mind trying on a pair Grede’s pants. Corcoran then made a joke about turning Goldberg’s jeans into two pairs. In the moment, the comment came off as more mean-spirited than funny to the audience. Even Goldberg’s co-host Ana Navarro took offense and defended her co-host by taking a jab at Corcoran.

Of course, being the comedic legend she is, Whoopi Goldberg took the situation in stride. Given her friendship with the businesswoman, Goldberg was quicker to forgive her than online commentators. The actress and comedian took Twitter to lend her support to the popular investor:

Having seen both stars clear the air on social media, viewers likely now have a bit of clarification regarding the relationship between the two. The initial reactions are somewhat understandable, though. Many within society do not tolerate any perceived body shaming. Plus, given how beloved Whoopi Goldberg is, it's no surprise that folks ended up being offended for the Oscar winner. 

Controversies like these are commonplace for the long-running talk show at this point. While this one easily could've been avoided, it's good to see that there are no hard feelings between the two women.

Kevin Hart never ceases to amaze me. The man literally had to relearn how to walk after a pretty serious car accident in 2019, and has since put out content that is already available to us, such as Fatherhood. He's also got so many upcoming projects, both those finished with filming and not, that I’m already tired just looking at all the titles. Apparently the comedic actor has no problem juggling everything, though, because he’s adding to his long list of engagements by taking on a guest-hosting spot on Shark Tank in Season 13. I just don't know how he does it all.

Kevin Hart is constantly just doing, and it seems like the actor and talk show host's Instagram profile is always full of activity - and not just the social media kind. His feed is a reflection of the ever-busy life that he lives, along with the people he experiences it with, and the projects he is keen to be promoting. While it should be surprising that he is adding yet another project to his plate on top of Hart to Heart, his Netflix deal and more, his fans have come to expect nothing but action from Hart. So the reveal that he will be one of several new guest hosts popping up in Shark Tank this upcoming season is just accepted as another amazing thing the actor is doing with his life.

As recently revealed by ABC, Kevin Hart will be stopping by for at least one episode of Shark Tank Season 13, and he's arguably the most widely known name in the group. Other guest hosts will include Emma Grede, the founding partner of Kim Kardashian's SKIMS; Peter Jones, original star of the BBC's Dragon's Den; and Nirav Tolia, co-founder of the neighborhood sales app Nextdoor,

Not to say that any of the other guests hosts are slackers, but Kevin Hart seems like he shouldn't have time to add any further TV or film projects to his slate. Not even counting the work that has been released since his accident, Kevin Hart has three major productions that have finished with filming and are on their way to release, two other projects he is filming currently, and a whopping five major projects announced that he will be acting in. Important to note, that these are just his acting credits in both live-action and animation. Hart also has a big hand in producing, which doesn't always require him to show his face, or voice, as it were.

As for what Kevin Hart is currently busy with, his project My Own Worst Enemy is getting started on production, in which he'll be serving as both producer and star. Hart will share those dual duties for the TV Mini Series True Story, which is in its final stages of production. He is currently voice-acting for DC League of Super Pets and is filming The Laff House Stories and Real Husbands of Hollywood 2021, appearing as himself in both.

All that said, Kevin Hart appearing on Shark Tank totally makes sense when you think about how entrepreneurial he is, since he has his hands in many different avenues of income and has turned himself into something of a brand. The actor was even approached about going to space and filming his experience - like, what?! Even though he’s totally not doing that, I wouldn’t put it past him to be able to fit literally going into space into his crazy busy schedule of spending time with his brood of kids, completing some Navy SEALS level work outs, and completing high dollar productions.

While waiting for Kevin Hart's next 17 projects, remember to tune into Shark Tank Season 13 when it debuts on Friday, October 8, at 8:00 p.m. ET. And stay tuned for all the other big shows hitting the 2021 Fall TV schedule!

Shark Tank is taking filming precautions in the time of COVID seriously, and the process that they are going through for production is absolutely wild. While ABC has gone to extremes with some of its other shows, including The Bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars, it took a dip on the aggressive side when it came time for Shark Week.

First up, let’s get into the quarantine for the show’s upcoming twelfth season. Page Six reports that those involved in production were subjected to 10 days of solitary confinement in hotel rooms. If that sounds awful, take heart. Like The Bachelorette, they are in top-notch accommodations via the Palazzo suites at Venetian Las Vegas hotel. Shark Tank took five floors of the building to house its cast, crew, and contestants.

From there, things get a little more uncomfortable. The rigorous COVID-19 testing that led to one ABC show suspending production is in full-force on the competition series. Shark Tank is testing contestants, cast, and crew before they leave for Vegas. If the COVID test comes back negative, they can proceed.

Contestants’ time getting the COVID swab is not over yet after that step. Before they can start filming Shark Tank to make moving pitches for their inventions, they have to test negative a total of three times. Man! Pitching on Shark Tank is challenging enough. Can you imagine believing in your invention so much, you would go through all of this to pitch it to the sharks?

More power to them. I have to imagine that Shark Tank contemplated the idea of having virtual pitches from home. Sort of how Kelly Clarkson is doing her talk show with her at-home audience, while she is in studio. Then there is American Idol, which is planning to keep doing auditions virtually for its upcoming season on ABC. Shark Tank has explored dangerous water with Shark Week, but having to film during the coronavirus is a whole other challenge.

The good news is that Shark Tank fans will be getting a new season of the show this fall, at a time when fans of some other shows are having to go without their favorites. Thankfully, the sharks will be circling with the chance to make someone’s dreams come true and get in on a sweet deal in the process.

Mark Cuban will undoubtedly be ready to take down any scammers, although I think he has less reason to worry this season. Would a con artist go through a 10-day quarantine and three nose swabs to pull a fast one? I doubt it, but you never know. Shark Tank will return for Season 12 on Friday, October 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The competition series is one of this fall’s premieres.

The Masked Singer - Fox

Television's weirdest singing competition was a quick hit for Fox, and even if the internet was crazy good at predicting the entrants under the mask, audiences still can't get enough of it. That's not a huge surprise considering what a hit the original series has been throughout Asia, and it appears America will be yet another successful spinoff. It'll be back for Season 2.

The Entire Arrow-verse - The CW

The CW bet big on the Arrow-verse this year, and renewed each and every one of its shows ahead of its most ambitious crossover to date. Yes, fans are in for Arrow Season 8, Legends of Tomorrow Season 5, The Flash Season 6, and Supergirl Season 5. We're pumped for "Crisis On Infinite Earths," although also incredibly worried about what's happening with some of the heroes afterward. And while technically not in the Arrow-verse, Black Lightning scored a renewal for Season 3!

The Good Doctor - ABC

ABC's medical drama is coming back for Season 3, which means Shaun and the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital crew will be back for another season. With Season 2 still underway it's hard to say exactly how the new season will play out, but we're hoping Dr. Glassman holds on for at least another season for Shaun's sake!

Modern Family - ABC

After much speculation over the past few months that Modern Family would be ending, ABC President Karey Burke finally confirmed the upcoming Season 11 will be the final season. It's sad, but better the show go out still popular than stagnate and die a slow death years down the road.

Criminal Minds - CBS

News arrived earlier this year that Criminal Minds will be coming to an end, and that Season 15 will be the final season. The good news is that the final season will follow up on a cliffhanger for Season 14, and will resolve in the ten episodes in Season 15.

Suits - USA

After a few high-profile exits from the cast, Suits is going to hang things up following its upcoming Season 9. On the bright side, more episodes to finish the story is always better than outright cancellation, and there's plenty of episodes to revisit while waiting for the final stretch.

The Simpsons - Fox

Apparently, three decades isn't enough for one of television's longest-running series. Fox didn't only ensure The Simpsons will return next year, but the year following as well. If only one of the show's writers had predicted this in a past episode, we may have seen this coming. Seasons 31 and 32, here we come!

The Good Place - NBC

NBC's afterlife comedy will return for yet another season, which is great because fans still can't get enough of the seemingly endless twists the program is known for. We can only guess what surprises they'll have up their sleeve for Season 4. Is it too crazy to wish for a Blake Bortles cameo?

New Amsterdam - NBC

Ryan Eggold's spinoff of The Blacklist didn't gain much traction, but the actor found another home in the medical drama New Amsterdam. The program's ratings made NBC's early renewal for Season 2 a no brainer.

God Friended Me - CBS

Another freshman series from CBS, God Friended Me scored a Season 2 renewal from the network. Perhaps the next season will feature Miles discovering who is behind the "God" account? We're not so sure about that, but it wouldn't be the first time a series subverted expectations and went in a different direction.

FBI - CBS

It shouldn't be that surprising that everything Dick Wolf touches turns to gold, but somehow the famed television producer makes it amazing time and time again. Honestly, how many shows are so successful in their first season they get a spinoff? The answer is not many, which really shows how impressive this new series is.

A Million Little Things - ABC

A Million Little Things captivated its audience in Season 1, and it looks like its primed to do the same in Season 2. Right now all we know is a new mystery is coming, but ABC's Karey Burke couldn't spill the details as to what's going on.

Mom - CBS

It took a bit of doing, but CBS finally managed to work out a deal that convinced Anna Faris and Allison Janey to commit to two more seasons on Mom. Here's to Seasons 7 and 8, and more years on television for these two talented actresses.

Supernatural - The CW

There's some shows that television wouldn't be the same without, and Supernatural is certainly one of them. The show will return for Season 15, and maybe that season will feature something that can finally be made into a spinoff! Is it too soon to be making those types of jokes?

The Walking Dead - AMC

As expected, The Walking Dead will return for Season 10. What wasn't expected is that Danai Gurira will be the next high-profile cast member to exit, yet again cutting into the remaining long-term stars still on the program. Who needs a Daryl spin-off when he could be the only major character remaining in a couple seasons?

Fear The Walking Dead - AMC

Fear the Walking Dead is returning for Season 5, and if the picture above isn't enough indication, things could get a bit wild. Dwight will be the second big character from The Walking Dead to cross over, but what will he bring with his arrival?

Shark Tank - ABC

Business owners and inventors best be ready with their best pitches, as the Sharks are back for Season 11. The ABC series has long been a proving ground for the next big business ventures of America. Will this season transform another obscure product into a mainstream success?

Jersey Shore Family Vacation - MTV

Jersey Shore Family Vacation is coming back for Season 3, even though everyone seems to be tied up in different life events at the moment. What drama will unfold on television this season? We have some clues, but the rest is a mystery.

Bachelor In Paradise - ABC

The Bachelor spinoff is back again for another season, bringing its grand total to 6. Chris Harrison will return to host another exciting season, which is sure to end in some raw emotions and broken hearts. Hey, at least these folks get a free vacation out of all of it.

Riverdale - The CW

Riverdale could very well burn to the ground at the end of Season 3 with as crazy things are getting, but that doesn't mean it won't return for Season 4. No, it appears The CW is ready and willing to give the Archie drama another shot to up the crazy yet again, and at this point, we're certain it won't disappoint.

Doctor Who - BBC America

Doctor Who has been renewed for Season 12, but unfortunately, its premiere date is a ways away. The new season isn't supposed to premiere until 2020. Is it possible there could be a surprise Christmas special in the works that no one knows about yet? Fingers crossed!

Charmed - The CW

Charmed may have some franchise fans divided on whether it's on par with the original, but apparently not so many that The CW balked at giving it the green light for Season 2. Perhaps another season will sway others who originally said no to this series?

Mayans M.C. - FX

The Sons of Anarchy spinoff did well in its inaugural season, so it's not a surprise FX renewed it for Season 2. After the two show's featured a wild connection in the finale, is it possible the two shows will bleed into each other more than folks were previously led to believe?

Legacies - The CW

The Vampire Diaries spinoff got a renewal from The CW, which isn't a huge surprise given the original series success as was the first spin off The Originals. Really the only question at this point is whether or not this Legacies can pave the way for a spinoff or two of its own!

Preacher - AMC

AMC's Preacher has had a blessed run on television, which is somewhat ironic given how sacrilegious it is. Ratings don't appear to factor into the network's commitment of this show, as Preacher will return for Season 4. Who could have guessed?

Outlander - Starz

Sing us a song of a show that's not gone any time soon! Starz rewarded fans who were stuck in a long hiatus between Seasons 3 and 4 with a huge renewal for Outlander. The time travel drama will be back for Season 5 and Season 6! The Frasers have at least two more seasons of trouble to find themselves in.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. - ABC

The last couple months of 2018 were brutal on the Marvel TV front with the cancellations of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and then Daredevil, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got some great news. Months before the sixth season (which felt unlikely for a while itself) would hit the airwaves, S.H.I.E.L.D. was renewed for Season 7.

There was quite a bit of drama surrounding the ABC network over the past couple of months, but now that the dust has settled and some decisions have been made, the company is finally rolling out the details of its 2018 fall lineup. Check out the premiere dates for popular shows like Grey's Anatomy, as well as when new shows such as theRoseanne spinoff The Conners will make their debut:

ABC is certainly starting things off big with a night that contains both a premiere of Dancing With The Stars and last year's freshman hit drama The Good Doctor. Wednesday will see some other familiar shows returning, as American Housewife switches to a new night and time right in between The Goldbergs and Modern Family. The laughs will keep on rolling that night with the premiere of Single Parents, and then will shift to a more serious tone later in the evening with the premiere of A Million Little Things.

The drama late on Wednesday is just a taste of what's to come the next night, however, as Grey's Anatomy kicks off Thursday with a two-hour premiere. The episode will be followed by the 10 p.m. Season 5 premiere of How To Get Away With Murder, which will stay in that spot as Station 19 slides into the 9 p.m. hour on Thursday, October 4. America's Funniest Home Videos will be the comedic gap that fills the void of premieres between those two events, as it begins Season 29 on Sunday, September 30.

Fridays saw the biggest shakeup in ABC's fall lineup, as Fresh Off The Boat and Speechless are both added to the day's primetime programming. Even Child Support got bumped to a different time slot, and while networks never seem to expect much from shows in these time slots, one has to think they're imagining this line-up experiences better success than last year's shows.

ABC saved a bulk of its new programming for the back half of its premiere schedule, as the network will premiere 5 of its 7 new shows in the final two weeks of fall premieres. Dancing With The Stars: Juniors will get a two-hour premiere that leads into Season 10 of Shark Tank, which will be bumped the following week for the premiere of The Alec Baldwin Show. Then Tuesday, October 16 will be arguably the network's biggest day in all of this as it gears up a night that features The Conners premiere, blackish, and Nathan Fillion's return to ABC on The Rookie. There's also the return of Splitting Up that night as well as the premiere of The Kids Are Alright, so its possible ABC will have its audience glued to the television from 8 p.m. until late-night with its impressive Tuesday lineup.

The stars of ABC's Shark Tank will be heading from business sharks to actual sharks, as part an upcoming special on Discovery. That's right. Shark Week is marking its 30th anniversary with TV's other famous sharks. It is all thanks to the network's annual Shark Week marathon. As part of the special, Shark Tanks Meets Shark Week, Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Daymond John, and Kevin "Mr. Wonderful" O'Leary, will take on a pretty big task. Here is what you need to know.

Each member of Shark Tank will take time out of their busy schedules to spend time with nonprofits dedicated to shark conservation. On the line is a $50,000 donation, which each team will work to convince the others their team deserves when they meet up with Robert Herjavec on the set of the series. Daymond John will head to the Bahamas Nation Trust, while Kevin O'Leary a.k.a. Mr. Wonderful will venture to the Georgia Aquarium.

Both Shark Tank stars will dive with actual sharks as part of the special. During his time at the shark sanctuary at the Bahamas National Trust, Daymond John explored the idea for a code of conduct for dive operators, which is a worthy notion to consider.

In authentic Mr. Wonderful fashion, he refused to go down without his trademark suit on, per USA Today. Don't worry though. A solution was reached in the form of a custom-made wetsuit that bears a striking resemblance to an actual suit. It was a solution very well-suited to Mr. Wonderful's wishes. What? I couldn't resist. Moving on, it sounds like the Shark Tank stars were able to spend some time learning valuable lessons about sharks and the environment.

Based on their titles alone, Shark Tank and Shark Week seem like a natural fit for one another. And, it will be neat to see the cast spend time away from hearing business pitches and learning about something entirely outside of their wheelhouse. As they will likely learn from being up close and personal with real-life sharks, the underwater variety is an utterly different sort than the business world's.

While one nonprofit will receive a $50,000 donation, the education viewers will receive from watching the program is nothing short of priceless. And, it will be nice to see the cast of Shark Tank taking a break from fighting about a business venture to championing a nonprofit that needs assistance. It does not get better than that.

When it's at its best, Shark Tank can be one of the most thrilling shows on television. Watching small business owners cut shrewd deals with some of the world's richest and most business savvy people in various industries is always a thrill to watch, and it can lead to some awesome life-changing moments for the business owners. Unfortunately, that success can go sideways down the line, and it looks like that's what could be happening with a former contestant on the series. John DePaola (pictured middle) was arrested and accused of taking part of a cocaine distribution ring.

John Depaola is one of nine people that were arrested Sunday, December 17 under the allegation that they collaboratively distributed cocaine in and around the area of Freehold, New Jersey. The Shark Tank contestant's official charge, according to New York Post, is conspiracy to possess cocaine, which can be an offense that carries some hefty consequences. Law enforcement officials report that they believe the nine individuals were distributing about a third of a kilo a week and that they confiscated 700 grams of cocaine and $14,943 during the bust. Depaola's lawyer dismisses the charges and calls them "baffling," while Depaola has offered no personal comment on the situation at this time.

The controversy is not a great look for John DePaola, who was featured on Season 5 of Shark Tank. DePaola came onto the series with his partners to promote The Paint Brush Cover, which keeps paint brushes wet and ready to use between coats of paint. Their pitch proved to be a success as the team walked away with a $200,000 investment from Lori Greiner and a deal that landed their product in 14,000 stores nationwide. The investment ended up paying off; a 2015 update video Shark Tank did with the company revealed the guys had netted $1.5 million in sales:

John Depaola is not the first former Shark Tank contestant to get arrested, as another contestant from Season 5 has experienced a run-in with the law as well. Mike Barzman, who pitched the Invisiplug surge protector and also got an investment from Lori Greiner was arrested in July of last year after threatening a man smoking outside of his house with a gun. The controversy didn't seem to affect the continued selling of the Invisiplug, so its possible Depaola's brush with the law won't do too much to damage the sales of The Paint Brush Cover.

ABC found a surprise winner of a show with Shark Tank. The reality series gives entrepreneur contestants the opportunity to present their business ideas to a panel of investors who have made millions or even billions with their business savvy. The premise is certainly entertaining, but Shark Tank almost certainly would not have lasted for eight seasons now if not for the flair brought by the panelists, and Mark Cuban has been known to get pretty angry with certain folks who pitch their ideas. Cuban has explained why he feels he has the leeway to get mean with particular contestants, saying this:

Contestants come onto Shark Tank to pitch everything from household goods to cutting-edge technology. The panelist sharks have the options to either invest right off the bat, fight other panelists to become prime investor, or pass on the product altogether. Mark Cuban often has a lot to say to individual contestants, whether he invests in their ventures or not. He's definitely not a shark who takes it easy on folks who ask for his money. Cuban's reveal on NPR's How I Built This podcast that he actively decides who does and doesn't deserve to be crushed on reality television is at least proof that entrepreneurs don't necessarily need to fear him when they appear on the show. As long as their products are genuine and their goals are on the straight and narrow, Mark Cuban is more likely to be a supporter than a detractor.

Of course, Mark Cuban isn't afraid to crush some of his fellow panelists if he believes that they're making mistakes. He's been blunt about what he considers their bad investment decisions. I know that I would blame entrepreneurs if they crossed their fingers that Cuban wouldn't have anything to say about their pitches. Sure, his praise goes a long way, but his criticism likely carries a lot of weight with viewers. After all, fans of the show might be especially interested in buying a product if they saw it pitched on Shark Tank; if Cuban decides that a product is a scam and says so on the show, that product may never get off the ground. If Cuban isn't reserved enough to divert his fury away from ABC when he feels he's been wronged, he's not going to hold back on a person that he thinks is knowingly pitching a faulty business.

Unfortunately, the show may be in enough ratings trouble that it doesn't have a long future ahead of it. The Season 8 premiere only attracted 4.9 million viewers and drew a relatively low 1.1 rating in the valuable 18 - 49 age demographic. The numbers were the lowest for any Shark Tank premiere since the very first season back in 2009. Although ABC hasn't made any announcements about a cancellation, a renewal is far from a sure thing.

With a few exceptions, new fall TV programs have kicked off to a pretty great start on the various networks. However, the same is not true of all of the returning shows. In fact, this week saw a few startling downfalls in the ratings, from a pretty big percentage drop for comedy juggernaut The Big Bang Theory to a significant decrease for ABC's Shark Tank this past Friday. In fact, the numbers for Shark Tank were particularly bad.

Shark Tank returned to the schedule for Season 8 this past Friday. Ratings reveal that Shark Tank only brought in 4.9 million total viewers. The low overall turnout led to a pretty low rating in the 18-49 demographic, as well, bringing in only a 1.1 rating per TV Series Finale. The show was up against some strong competition from CBS, which premiered MacGyver, as well as the crowd pleasers Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods. However, it should also be noted that some of the other major networks haven't even premiered their fall schedules, yet. The niche favorite Grimm hasn't hit the schedule on NBC, and the CW's fall lineup, including Friday night, won't hit the schedule until October. So, the competition is only going to get worse as the weeks wear on.

There could be a few reasons why Shark Tank is down in its latest season. The series is getting older. Eight seasons is a long time to be on the air, and interest might be lower. In addition, the other networks have spent considerable time over the last couple of seasons putting together lineups with fan favorites that can be competitive. The networks also spend a lot of time and money to make sure viewers know when the new shows are premiering, but sometimes fans don't know exactly when returning favorites will be back, which means Shark Tank could improve in the weeks to come.

Regardless, the history of Shark Tank has been rife with ups and downs. The show started out slowly on ABC network, and it took several seasons for the ABC drama to start picking up momentum. It was only in Season 4 that the show started bumping up over 7 million total viewers in Live+ Same Day ratings for the first time. The last few seasons have seen the show crush---especially in the advertising demographic---but it did take some time for the show to become a network juggernaut.

Obviously, one week of ratings isn't enough to sink a show, but if Shark Tank continues to be down in the ratings in the weeks to come, there could be troubled waters ahead for the series. We'll let you know how the ABC series fares throughout the TV season.

Sometimes you see a marketing strategy and all you can do is shake your head and wonder who came up with such an idea. Usually that’s a bad thing, but not in this case. In what may be the best advertisement for any product ever devised, this commercial features a handsome prince and a unicorn that poops ice cream who want to change the way you go to the bathroom forever. You really just need to see this to believe it.

If you watched this video, you now know that we weren’t lying, and that there are indeed a royal and an ice cream-pooping unicorn (I never envisioned a scenario where I would type that phrase) that want to change the way you relieve yourself. Perhaps even better than that (okay, not better, but still pretty hilarious), the Squatty Potty, as this magical new product is called, was actually featured some months back on ABC’s invention-themed reality show Shark Tank.

I do have to say, whoever came up with this marketing strategy is something of a maverick genius. Seriously, it’s damn near impossible to look away. You don’t think it’s real at first (it does start with a prince licking unicorn poop after all), but then it dawns on you that, yes, this is a very real advertisement that is trying to sell you a very real product.

It’s really too bad that this sense of humor doesn’t appear to extend beyond this particular commercial. If you go to the Squatty Potty website, it’s all very cut and dried. Okay, it’s a little bit funny, but nothing close to what you see here. For the most part it’s all, “Yes, this is a real thing, here’s how it works, and here’s why you should buy it.”

And while it’s not nearly as good as the ad, it’s worth checking out the inventors pitch their product on Shark Tank, if only to watch the faces the panel members make while watching a very clinical animated video.

This is easily the best advertisement I’ve seen in I don’t even know how long. It’s one of those concepts that someone has but that is almost immediately dismissed as too ridiculous. But thankfully there’s at least one visionary out there who stood up and said, “No, I’m not going to drop it, I’m going to make a commercial about a unicorn pooping ice cream, and people are going to love it.” And we certainly do.

The fall TV season is very nearly upon us, which means that sooner rather than later TV subscribers will have a ton of new and returning programs to add to their TV-viewing calendars. This year a popular trend is to turn films into TV shows, and CBS and Fox both have Limitless and Minority Report on their fall schedules, respectively. There are some spinoffs in the works, as well. Over at NBC, Chicago Fire has spinoff Chicago Med on the schedule late this fall.(The Criminal Minds spinoff is expected to premiere at midseason.) There’s surely something out there for everyone, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed that your favorites avoid the cancellation axe.

Shark Tank has occasionally changed up its lineup of panelists over the years. Mostly these have been entrepreneurs in various industries, and now the show has added a big celebrity for Season 7. Reports on Monday indicate that actor Ashton Kutcher will try his hand in the tank, joining ABC’s popular unscripted series as a “guest shark.”

While Kutcher is most famous for his acting career, having starred in big box office flicks like No Strings Attached and Annie, as well as the popular TV comedies That ‘70s Show and Two and a Half Men, he’s not exactly a layabout in his spare time. He’s actually an investor in a slew of Internet-based spaces, including Skype, Foursquaire, Airbnb, and Fab.com, not to mention Virgin Galactic’s private space program. Plus, Ashton Kutcher has even done a “mock” Shark Tank panel at Colgate University. So, unlike many people in the acting space, he’s uniquely suited to the Shark Tank experience.

TV Line first reported the news, noting that Kutcher will make a guest appearance during Season 7 and has already taped the episode, which seems to indicate he will only pop up once after the show returns this fall. However, if he is a good fit within the Shark Tank panel, there’s a good chance he could be invited back as a fill-in during Season 7 and beyond. Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner, for instance, both started out as guests on the series before joining the main cast. Then again, people like Jeff Foxworthy and Steve Tisch have simply done guest stints on the show and never emerged as larger players.

Shark Tank was one of a slew of programs renewed by ABC, which was pretty good news for fans, considering there were a few quirks with negotiations on the series this season. ABC has plans to continue airing the hit show, which follows entrepreneurs showcasing their product and business model in the attempt to lure in one or more of the “sharks” as investors in a product, on Friday evenings this fall. In addition, Shark Tank will also be joined by its companion series Beyond the Tank sometime during the 2015-2016 TV season.

We already know that Shark Tank is going to hit the schedule on Friday, September 25. While we wait for fall programming, here is what ABC has coming up this summer. Here's to hoping next season is filled with tons of interesting products and pitches, as well as more than its share of monetary and philosophical arguments between the judges. There's nothing on the show more interesting than when a few of the sharks see a potential business in a completely different way.

The next time you go to a department store that isn’t too high-end, count how many Marvel branded items you can find. You might just be there from opening until closing, as there doesn’t seem to be a single product out there that can’t be paired with superheroes. Thanks to the ABC series Shark Tank, you’ll probably be seeing your favorite Marvel characters as part of the Sun-Staches line of sunglasses. Check out a clip from the latest episode below.

The men behind Sun-Staches showed up earlier this season on Shark Tank for the fifth episode, and they hooked up with entrepreneur Daymond John for a pretty large deal. According to the clip, they have sold millions of dollars worth of products already, and this new Marvel license is bound to add further success. Not too shabby for three guys who created the product as a way to give a friend a fake mustache.

So far, Sun-Staches is keeping it fairly simple by offering up three of the most famous Marvel superheroes. Maybe you’ve heard of them. There’s the all-powerful Iron Man, whose alter ego Tony Stark would be a perfect fifth wheel for the Shark Tank line-up.

Next there’s Captain America, whose alter ego Steve Rogers grew up during the 1920s and 1930s, when sunglasses first became extremely popular. It’s probably easier than just walking around using a shield to block the sun.

And then there’s Spider-Man, whose alter ego Peter Parker would probably have some kind of snarky comment to make about them before whining about Aunt May or whatever.

I can’t lie; those glasses are pretty sweet whether it’s an adult or a child that’s wearing them, although I assume they do better with younger folks. What's more, Sun-Staches has licensing deals with lots of other companies, like Nickelodeon, DC and Universal. So along with their general non-trademarked glasses - the Day of the Dead ones are pretty amazing - they also have ones modeled after Batman, the Joker, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants and more. Well played, guys.

Fans of ABC’s reality television show Shark Tank know that the sharks are a pretty tough team of negotiators when it comes to dealing with contestants on the show. Turns out, they’re even tougher when it comes to negotiating with their bosses, but apparently, ABC doesn't mind.

The cast, led by Kevin O’Leary, is currently in negotiations to return to the show for another season and, according to Deadline, things are actually going quite well. So well, in fact, that network executive Paul Lee is going so far as to crack light-hearted jokes and, dare we say it, dish out compliments.

This is definitely good news for fans of the show and its recurring cast. After the recent Sony email leaks, some of which revealed Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s dissatisfaction over his salary and treatment at the studio, some of us were beginning to have our doubts. Apparently, Cuban was unhappy with being undervalued (something Cuban knows a thing or two about), and he insisted on more money. Things got so heated the billionaire and regular panelist on the show told the studio to start removing his image from its promotional spots. Now, how’s that for negotiating power?

While all of this could be chalked up as promo material for the show, it’s probably not that far of a stretch. Like any television show, as the popularity rises and old contracts expire, new deals have to be struck. It’s the way the business works. It’s just not always as difficult on every show as its is on Shark Tank because not everyone has negotiating abilities of Cuban O'Leary and the other sharks.

Reports say that deals with the show’s regular cast, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Lori Greiner and Cuban, should be struck very soon. That’s definitely good news for viewers, myself included. I personally love the hilarious dynamic between the cast. I’ve gotten quite used to hearing O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful) reiterate his fixation with money and watching Lori leverage her monstrous ties with QVC. As far as the cast demanding more money is concerned, I argue that seeing Daymond, Robert, Barbara and Cuban occasionally bend (sometimes even against their better judgement) when a contestant pulls at their heartstrings is priceless.

The recent Sony email leaks have had ramifications for a slew of major celebrities and the behind-the-scenes people that make the studio's motion pictures and TV projects happen. The latest person to jump into the spotlight thanks to the leaked emails is billionaire entrepreneur and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who had some pissy things to say to Sony regarding his salary for Shark Tank, after he was offered a figure he didn't feel was worthy of his talents.

Cuban has been a part of Mark Burnett’s Shark Tank since the show began airing in 2011, first appearing in a few episodes and later as a regular panelist. The leaked emails note that Cuban was unhappy with his Shark Tank salary. For Season 5, Sony stated Cuban would receive $30,000 per episode, with his salary set to increase to $31,200 for this year’s Season 6 and $32,488 for Season 7 if the show continues to air on ABC after the 2014-2015 season. He wasn't happy with those figures. In fact, he got so worked up, he told the studio to start cutting him out of the promotional materials.

That seems like a lot of money per episode, but it’s certainly not as high as people involved with reality programs can go. The Bachelor host Chris Harrison makes $50,000 an hour. Still, Cuban’s salary for each season is pretty high, considering Shark Tank produces more episodes than the average scripted program. Last year, the show filmed 29 episodes, which means Cuban would have received $870,000 at 30K per episode (if that is, indeed, the final deal they signed). Based on the emails, he probably wound up getting at least a little bit more.

It’s hard to argue with upwards of a million dollars handed out to the lead entrepreneurs on Shark Tank, but according to Business Insider, Cuban is actually more upset at how the studio is treating him. Another email between Cuban and his company’s general counsel Robert Hart mentions that Sony wanted to restrict how much Cuban was able to sell merchandise and generate publicity off Shark Tank. They wanted to claim use of his catch phrases and gestures, something his lawyer was none too pleased about.

Seeing as how he's still on the show, clearly Sony and Mark Cuban were able to work something out. Then again, that's not a huge surprise considering Shark Tank has turned into a cash cow and perhaps more importantly, the format allows the Sharks to film a ton of episodes in one stretch.

ABC’s Shark Tank has seen a lot of strange and stupid business models come and go over the years, but nothing like the business that popped up in Saturday Night Live’s spoof of the hit show this weekend. That’s right, this week, SNL mocked Shark Tank in a sketch that includes host Chris Rock playing an ISIS Agent. Check it out, below.

Chris Rock brought a lot of controversial humor to SNL this weekend, and the “Shark Tank” sketch was no exception, mixing pop culture in with terrorism jokes, which is something even FX’s Archer isn’t willing to attempt this season. In the sketch, Chris Rock and Kyle Mooney head into the tank to ask for some major capitol from the sharks--400 million dollars, in fact. Apparently, this is the figure they came up with in order to create their own kingdom, which will be “rid” of the “filthy Western pig” and the “vile jew.”

The ISIS crew are tough and in your face, but they are no match for the sharks, who want them to get to the “bottom line” and who believe they don’t have a “unified brand.” In top form here is Kate McKinnon, who just crushes playing the Barbara Corcoran role, and Beck Bennett, who makes for an amusing Mr. Wonderful.

And shocker of all shockers, the biggest baddies in the video might not be ISIS themselves. Button up corporate man that he is, Daymond John even shows a little interest in ISIS’ business philosophy and game plan after they promise to pump up FUBU, leading to a few follow-up questions. All’s well that ends well, though, when Homeland Security shows up on the scene.

It’s interesting, SNL hasn’t been really in-your-face with its comedy all season (except for maybe Pete Davidson’s blowing a dude rant in the first episode). The latest incarnation of this cast has mostly been down with impressions and more stand-up oriented comedy, along with plenty of pop culture references. The “Shark Tank” sketch takes what the regular SNL cast does best and juxtaposes it with the viewpoints of a terrorist group that has been in the news for many months now. It isn’t necessarily a pitch-perfect sketch, but it’s definitely trying for something, which is more than I can say about a lot of the sketches we’ve seen this season.

This was the first time that Chris Rock headed to 30 Rock to host an episode of SNL, and from Prince’s long musical performances to Chris Rock’s personality, we knew it was bound to be a weird one. You can catch the full SNL episode over at NBC’s site.

2013 has been a great year for television, so narrowing down our list of favorites was no easy task. As TV Blend has numerous writers with varying tastes in TV shows, we decided to go solo this year in sharing our Top 5 lists of the best series of 2013. This is Mack's list, which begins with an underrated procedural at #5.

5. Elementary

Elementary has always and perhaps will always live in the shadow of Sherlock, but beyond the shared main character and the crime solving element, CBS’ offering is fundamentally different from its peer. More importantly, in some ways, it’s actually just as good or better, as well.

That quality starts with acting. Lead Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock is an addict, once upon a time for drugs now simply for excitement and stimulation. His hands sometimes shake. His opinions are always delivered with more confidence than his face would indicate, and his rare moments of honesty are surprisingly touching. Here, he feels like a real person we could be lucky enough to run across at some point during our lives, though he’s not exactly relatable. Lucy Liu’s Joan Watson is the opposite. She’s brilliant, as well, but her brilliance is far more understandable. She processes things much like the audience would, and this combination makes solving the weekly mysteries fun.

In addition to the acting, Elementary typically offers very crisp and sharp writing. The weekly cases are the right level of complicated yet still solveable, and we’re given a chance to understand exactly how the final conclusions are reached. The mind of Holmes isn’t the easiest to portray. It can often lead writers to turn the man into some all-knowing superbeing, but in this effort, he’s simply the world’s most brilliant detective. Sometimes he’s even initially wrong, by the end, he always delivers the solution and a reminder of why he’s so compelling to watch.

4. Modern Family

When Modern Family first burst onto the scene, critics tripped all over themselves to call it the best show on television. Much of the praise was deserved too. It somehow felt like a complete reinvention of the genre, but yet it was still familiar enough to be the same kind of breezy sitcom-ish watch we all love. In the years since, however, the over-the-top praise has largely been replaced by a general consensus that its better days are past.

Well, maybe the show will never recapture the magic of its first season, but regardless, it’s still one of the funniest and most honest half hours on television. It tackles a wide variety of very relatable subject matter with the right amount of humor and seriousness and more importantly, it always has something to say. Even when the show is treading amidst familiar subject choices most comedies have tackled before, it never feels like a boring retread or like a recycling of ideas already put on the table. It always uses its characters to make a new point, and it somehow still stays true to the general personalities of those characters.

In general, we like new, and we forget to appreciate what’s been under our noses the entire time. Modern Family is still a great show, and it deserve to be appreciated among the best offerings on the air.

3. Shark Tank

For whatever reason, the majority of reality television shows feel the need to shoehorn in contrived drama and little gags. Even those that bill themselves as being historical, educational and informative like American Pickers and Pawn Stars bizarrely get off topic on a regular basis, as if moments of contrived banter are what viewers actually want to see. Fortunately, Shark Tank is better than that, and thanks to a few minor changes, it’s seemingly getting better by the episode.

On paper, the Tank is pretty formulaic, but because of the wide variety of pitches, each episode actually feels very unique. At some point, producers made the decision not have any rhyme or reason to which pitches are shown each week, and that makes a very big difference for viewers because it’s damn near impossible to predict whether people will get a deal. Sometimes entire episodes will go by with every single investor walking away with their tails between their legs. Other times, it’s the exact opposite. Either way, everyone watching is learning interesting things about business, company valuations, earnings potential and a whole lot more.

There aren’t enough shows on television that are unapologetic about how much thinking they require. Shark Tank is one of them, and in my spreadsheet, it’s a must watch.

2. Justified

The key to Justified is its wide net of side characters who appear and reappear depending on particular plotlines. Some are US Marshalls. Some are local residents involved in the criminal underbelly. Others are hookers or members of the Detroit mafia or blood relatives. They all boast some connection to Kentucky, and they’re all used expertly by series creator Graham Yost to add realism and to please the hardcore fans who have grown to love various supporting players who thrive in and around Harlan County.

Most of them somehow perfectly bridge the gap between antagonist and protagonist too. Take Boyd Crowder. At his core, he’s a bad guy. He deals drugs, breaks the law and acquires funds illegally. He’s also a well-intentioned man with his own moral code, however, and because of main character Raylan Givens’ shortcomings, he’s sometimes the person it’s more comfortable rooting for.

Heading into Season 5, Justified is still getting better and better. It pushes the envelope enough to be groundbreaking, but it doesn’t do it so much as to isolate its audience or become showy. It’s just the right level of violent. Just the right level of sexy. Just the right levels of smart, sophisticated and engaging, and thanks to some shrewd writing, the future is full of possibilities.

1. The Good Wife

Don’t you love it when the writers of a great television show have a long-term plan? For most of 2013, The Good Wife began introducing characters (Robyn Burdine, Clarke Hayden) and storylines (Diane’s judgeship, David Lee’s emergence) that didn’t seem to be tied together. It was as if they were casting off in many different directions and then suddenly, every little domino aligned and fell into place in a hyper-emotional, multi-episode run that saw Alicia, Cary, Robyn and Clarke branch off to form one firm and Diane return to Lockhart/ Gardner to right the ship alongside the seriously pissed off and betrayed Will, David and Kalinda. It was an absolute masterstroke from the best show on television.

There are few things worse than when a procedural decides to focus too much attention on personal life storylines. Too much character development can be the death of shows like this, but The Good Wife has always found ways to move both the characters themselves and the weekly cases forward, intersecting the two at the most convenient and inconvenient moments to prevent the show from ever getting stagnant or boring. This past year took that process to an entirely new level of greatness and offered up a few brilliant, ripped from the headlines cases involving Internet freedom, collective responses to terrorism and more.

If you’re not watching The Good Wife right now, you’re quietly missing one of the greatest network television drama runs in the history of the entire medium. Start catching up, it’s not too late.

ABC fell a couple of weeks behind the other major networks in getting us the their Fall 2013 premiere schedule, but with months to go, that's kind of ok. All the same, it's exciting to get to see when the network's new and returning series will debut this fall. For ABC, that includes the highly anticipated Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and new 80s-set comedy The Goldbergs, which looks like it could be a winner. A good portion of ABC's premiere dates fall between Monday, September 23 and Thursday, September 26, but there are a few early starters, including the return of Dancing with the Stars and Friday night comedies Last Man Standing and The Neighbors. Unfortunately, it looks like we have to wait until October for Scandal to return for Season 3, but on the bright side, it's the very beginning of October. Here's the full premiere schedule.

I'll be interested to see how the family/baseball themed Back in the Game does set up on Wednesday night amidst ABC's returning comedies, while The Neighbors is set up over on Fridays. And I'm even more interested to see how Rebel Wilson's Super Fun Night does with the Modern Family lead-in. It feels a bit familiar, putting a friend-focused comedy after Modern Family. That worked out just-ok for Happy Endings when it held that timeslot, though the series didn't have much luck when it was moved elsewhere.

Coming in last on the list is the Once Upon a Time spinoff, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, which is set up to debut on Thursday, October 10. In fact, it looks like ABC's Thursday night drama line-up won't really come together until October, as Grey's is the lone series in the 3-hour block to get a September premiere.

ABC has posted their 2013-2014 line-up of new and returning series, which gives us a look at the plan for the network's schedule for the fall. The network has moved The Neighbors over to Friday nights, to join Last Man Standing, and fill the gap left by Malibu Country. Meanwhile, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on Tuesday nights, ahead of new comedies The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, which are sandwiched between another new drama, Lucky 7.

While Tuesday night is packed with new shows, Wednesday is more of a mixed bag, with returners The Middle, Modern Family and Nashville joined by Back in the Game and Rebel Wilson's Super Fun Night.

ABC put the Once Upon a Time Wonderland spinoff on Thursday night, ahead of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. As for the soapy new drama Betrayal, that one's joining Revenge and Once Upon a Time on Sunday nights. And you may note Suburgatory isn't on the list. ABC is bringing it back, though it doesn't look like they've found a place for it just yet - or they're holding onto that one for midseason.

Mind Games, Killer Women, Resurrection and Mixology are all set for Midseason 2014. Watch the trailers for those here.

ABC also announced that they're going to air a TV special Toy Story of Terror from Pixar, which will include the original cast of the beloved Toy Story films, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and Wallace Shawn.

ABC has posted their 2012-2013 Primetime schedule, and as you'll notice, a few returning shows have been shifted around to make room for some of the promising looking newcomers. From what we can tell, it looks like the network has made some good calls with regards to the scheduling adjustments. This includes moving Revenge to Sunday nights, and shifting a couple of returning comedies to Tuesdays.

ABC has shifted Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 to Tuesdays, sticking the hour-long comedy block between Dancing with the Stars and Private Practice. As both comedies likely appeal to the same audience, I think the network is doing the right thing in pairing them, though I also think Cougar Town would've benefited well from their company. We'll have to look to TBS for that comedy.

Also moved away from Wednesday night is Revenge, which has shifted to Sundays, set between returning fantasty-drama Once Upon a Time and new supernatural-themed drama 666 Park Avenue. I would've thought ABC would prefer to put 666 Park back-to-back with Once Upon a Time, especially as a 9:00 p.m. spot might give the series the boost of the Once lead-in and a slightly more favorable earlier time slot. Perhaps the darker tone makes it a better fit for 10:00 p.m.? We'll have to see what ABC shows us from this new show.

Taking over Revenge's time-slot is Nashville, which will cap off the two-hour family-focused comedy block set up on Wednesday nights. This includes the new comedy The Neighbors. Shawn Ryan's new drama Last Resort landed a solid but competitive spot at 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Not mentioned on the schedule is Mistresses, a drama that stars Alyssa Milano and Lost's Yunjin Kim. It's looking like we'll have to wait for midseason for that one, though perhaps ABC hasn't picked a specific day of the week for it.

Sure, summer’s just beginning but it’s definitely not too early for the networks to start mapping out which shows will start when once fall rolls around. ABC posted their fall TV primetime premiere schedule for 2009 today. Strangely enough, they have Ugly Betty returning on a Friday night and I noticed their new series Eastwick isn’t up there. Has the network decided to move that to midseason? Or are they just not sure when they’re going to roll that one out for us?

Upfront week continues with ABC’s announcement of their Fall 2009 primetime schedule. I sat looking at the release ABC sent out, preparing myself for the onslaught of vids and pics we’ll be getting to you as the day goes on, and wondered if I cared about anything. I’m looking forward to some of the new shows, but ABC as a network has really become a chick thing. So I called my wife to ask if there was anything on the fence she was worried about…she even had a hard time coming up with something.

But here’s what we now know for sure from ABC. Better of Ted and The Unusuals will be returning next season as midseason shows. And it appears that ABC hates Ugly Betty, as the network has moved the show to the dreaded Friday night slot. In it’s place is new series Flash Forward. Has the luster of the trials and tribulations of Mode worn off on the female fanbase and I hadn’t noticed, or is the show just been on an extreme decline without my knowledge?
