Spoilers ahead for Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale.

Sophia Bush has made a splash on Grey’s Anatomy, with her character Cass Beckman earning quite the reputation for making waves in the Seattle surgeons’ relationships. It’s likely we haven’t seen the last of her, either, after that unexpected Season 22 finale cliffhanger, and it sounds like she’s already thinking about Season 23’s return to the 2026 TV schedule this fall.

In fact, she pitched one of her One Tree Hill co-stars as the next perfect addition to Grey’s Anatomy, and I know exactly where they’d fit in.

Sophia Bush Thinks James Lafferty Should Join Grey’s Anatomy

Cass Beckman made a surprise return to Grey’s Anatomy Season 22, providing much-needed help in the wake of a bridge collapse that left Nick Marsh’s life in her hands. Later, however, it’s revealed that she ended up in bed with Amelia Shepherd. That sounds like some Brooke Davis behavior to me, and speaking of One Tree Hill, Sophia Bush had an idea about another actor who could make the jump over to Grey Sloan Memorial. She told EW:

First of all, it is kind of crazy how naturally One Tree Hill’s actors flow into the Grey’s Anatomy-verse, with Hilarie Burton playing Dr. Lauren Boswell on three episodes of Season 9 (and also being the real-life wife of Denny Duquette actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Bethany Joy Lenz, meanwhile, had a short-but-memorable storyline as the new fiancée of Jo’s abusive ex-husband Paul in Season 14 and Jana Kramer also appeared on two episodes of Season 4.

More importantly, though, Sophia Bush is so right that James Lafferty has major McDreamy vibes, and I think he should totally lean into that.

James Lafferty Should Play Another McDreamy Nephew — A Rival To Cousin Lucas

On One Tree Hill, James Lafferty played Nathan Scott, one of the titular high school’s star basketball players and half-brother to Chad Michael Murray’s Lucas. On Grey’s Anatomy, I think he should have another kind of familial drama with a different Lucas — McDreamy’s favorite nephew Lucas Adams (Niko Terho).

With Derek Shepherd having four sisters and a family full of medical professionals, it would make a lot of sense for Lucas to have cousins who are also doctors. James Lafferty could play one of them, giving ole McBroody another chance to feel less-than amongst his family and peers.

How Did James Lafferty React To Sophia Bush’s Suggestion?

Word got back to the Everyone Is Doing Great creator that he was being pitched as a possible McDreamy 2.0, and James Lafferty had a pretty funny response, telling EW:

I don’t know, I think that brand of humility in the face of something he seems so right for is exactly the kind of thing that would endear Grey’s Anatomy fans to a character — and drive Lucas Adams bonkers.

Only time will tell if Sophia Bush has that kind of sway behind the scenes of the longtime medical drama, but I hope Meg Marinis is listening — even as she works on that Grey’s Anatomy Texas spinoff — because I think James Lafferty could be a really fun addition.

Grey’s Anatomy wrapped up its 22nd season with plenty of surprises popping up with the bridge collapse. Sophia Bush’s return as Dr. Cass Beckman was one delightful twist — the bridge disaster was an “all hands on deck” situation, after all, and Cass’ hands were on the right side of the carnage. She ended up being instrumental in one of the finale’s more shocking and unexpected cliffhangers, but Bush said another part of her storyline initially gave her pause.

Sophia Bush has now appeared in seven Grey’s Anatomy episodes, mostly as a potential love interest to Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), but in “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” she had the much more serious job of saving Nick Marsh’s life. The One Tree Hill alum understood the weight of that situation, telling EW:

As we all remember, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) lost Derek Shepherd to improperly trained surgeons, and it sounds like Sophia Bush had no interest in becoming “Perfect Penny” Part 2 by killing off Nick (Scott Speedman). Cass smartly refused to let Meredith into the operating room with her, instead calling on Chandra Wilson’s Miranda. Seeing that in the script made Bush feel better, as she said:

Yes, Sophie Bush said “Meredith’s husband,” because to underscore the significance of the situation, Meredith told Cass that she and Nick were married, setting up the surprise engagement near the episode’s end.

Speaking of the end of the episode, Sophia Bush was part of another wildly unexpected reveal, when Toni Wright (Jen Landon) told Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) she was falling in love with her, only to realize that Amelia had just slept with Cass! It seems like Bush had the same reaction as every Grey’s fan, as she said:

Forget the scandal of it all, with Toni and Amelia at such a tenuous place in their young and complicated relationship — this CassMelia pairing is one that fans have apparently been begging for. Sophia Bush continued:

Well we certainly can’t blame Cass for needing to blow off some steam after operating on Meredith Grey’s partner, but will she continue to show up in Season 23? Who knows? We didn’t even expect to see her in the Season 22 finale! We’ve got a while to wait before finding out if CassMelia can be a real thing or if she’s just a bump in the road for Toni and Amelia, just like she proved to be for Teddy and Owen.

When a beloved TV show is canceled or comes to an end, a lot of pressure is put on its series finale, especially for long-running shows. That final episode can determine a lot about a show’s legacy, with some of the worst series finales practically overshadowing everything good that came before (just look at Dexter). When One Tree Hill came to an end in 2012, fans had a lot of strong opinions, but Sophia Bush stands by their ending, despite her qualms with one storyline.

One Tree Hill was one of the best teen dramas of the 2000s, premiering in 2003 and lasting nine seasons (way too long, in our opinion). While the final season presented much of the same melodrama and crazy plot twists fans had come to expect, the last episode did little more than wrap up all of its characters’ storylines, which Sophia Bush said on the Drama Queens podcast was the right decision in her opinion. In her words:

Sophia Bush — who played Brooke Davis for all nine seasons — is right about one thing: They definitely did put a bow on everything. Season 9, Episode 13, which was titled simply “One Tree Hill,” was a celebration of the show more than anything, with a lot of reminiscing and nostalgia and all of the characters showing love for one another.

It even included a concert at the nightclub TRIC, with Gavin DeGraw performing the show’s theme song, “I Don’t Wanna Be,” in an especially meta moment. The actress said she loved that everybody went out on a high note, as she continued:

Bethany Joy Lenz, aka Haley James Scott, agreed with her former co-star, saying that after everything the Tree Hill, North Carolina, residents had been through over the years, it was right to allow them to just be connected and have their happy ending.

Speaking of the wild situations that One Tree Hill found its characters in, Sophia Bush did admit there was one Season 9 storyline she could have done without: the return of Xavier, the man who attacked her in Season 6, killed the beloved high school athlete Quentin and was ultimately arrested. The final season saw him get out of jail, only to attack Brooke again, and I agree that was one story that didn’t need to be revisited.

Other than that, there are no complaints from these One Tree Hill stars (other than maybe a few outfit choices). We’ll have to see if the same is true for the planned sequel series that Bush is reportedly developing with fellow Ravens alumni Hilarie Burton and Daneel Ackles.

Much of the conversation surrounding Grey’s Anatomy’s impending return to the 2025 TV schedule revolves around the explosion that closed out last season. The Grey Sloan Memorial operating room wasn’t the only thing that blew up in “How Do I Live,” though, as Teddy and Owen’s marriage also went up in flames. Does that open the door for Sophia Bush’s Cass to return in Season 22? Showrunner Meg Marinis shared her thoughts, and I’ve got some strong opinions of my own.

In Season 21, Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt (Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd) decided — for, like, five minutes — to open their marriage. During that time, Teddy had a hot makeout sesh with Cass Beckman but decided she wanted to remain faithful to Owen. The trauma surgeon, meanwhile, had no such hangups, sleeping with his sister’s childhood friend Nora (Floriana Lima). Now that Teddy and Owen are no more, is it possible she and Cass could pick up where they left off? Meg Marinis told TVLine:

After her hookup with Owen, Nora — who was in Seattle seeking medical care from Teddy — thought she was dying, so she professed her love to her best friend’s brother. I rightly predicted that Teddy would figure out a way to save her life, but I may have been wrong about that complicating the situation.

Instead, when Owen refused to reveal if he reciprocated Nora feelings — only saying he was willing to cut her out of his life to save his and Teddy’s marriage — Teddy surprised me by choosing to walk away. Maybe, possibly, finally, this time for good.

I think Owen in general is one of Grey’s Anatomy’s worst love interests, and his and Teddy’s toxic relationship lasted too long. I'd love nothing more than to see Teddy explore something different.

I loved when Cass mixed things up for Teddy and Owen in Season 21, and Meg Marinis sounds ready to bring the character back, as she continued:

Please, I’m begging the writers to do all of the fun things they can think of with Cass, and no character is more deserving to partake in that fun than Teddy. It doesn’t hurt that she’d get to rub it in Owen’s face, either.

Sophia Bush has not been confirmed for Season 22, but Floriana Lima is set to recur, so there’s still a lot of juice left in this story. We also need to find out if Link (or anyone else) died in the explosion (and I've got a wild theory about that, too). Thankfully the long wait is almost over.

Sophia Bush has had a fascinating career thus far. She’s done a lot since her John Tucker Must Die days and plenty since her Chicago P.D exit (which may be one of the most controversial exits of the past decade.) Now she’s been in a steady stream of movies and television projects. In 2025, Bush stars in The Stranger in My Home. It’s an adaptation of Adele Parks’ book of the same name.

It follows a family whose life turns upside down when a stranger delivers the news of a baby switch, and things just continue to escalate into a thrilling conclusion. The Stranger in My Home reminds me a lot of Lifetime movies. As someone who used to watch them regularly, that made me enjoy this soapy, kind of campy, movie even more.

The Stranger In My Home Feels Over The Top In The Same Way My Favorite Lifetime Movies Do

If you watch enough Lifetime movies, you notice a pattern in many of them. It’s a story that starts fairly straightforward, with a nice American family, then someone enters the picture who changes everything. Those films usually continuously escalate into very ridiculous situations. These calm cinematic masterpieces often become intense thrillers. That usually means a fight scene of some sort between the heroine and the main antagonist.

The Stranger in My Home fits this pattern. It starts with Ali (Sophia Bush) discovering that her daughter Katie (Amiah Miller) was switched at birth with another family’s daughter. This forces these families to engage and integrate. It’s not an easy transition. Additionally, single father Tom (Chris Carmack) seems to have eyes for Ali, despite her husband still being around.

To not spoil the movie, I will simply say it goes very over the top and melodramatic by the end. If you love Lifetime movies, you specifically understands these types of films. It’s a distinct movie and genre, and while it's currently available on demand, I hope Lifetime seizes the opportunity and buys the licensing to stream or air it.

The title alone gives off a very Lifetime Saturday movie event vibe.

I Like That The Film Has So Many Predictable Twists

This isn’t going to win any awards for the best plot twists in movies. It has a ton of them, but, if you watch enough Lifetime movies, you can guess at least a few of surprises, as the film also makes them fairly easy to predict.

However, one of the main plots involving Ali you don’t figure out until later, because you aren’t given this information until further in.

The whole premise of this film is basically a plot twist for all these characters. Two children switched at birth isn’t something that happens much in real life or fiction, but the movie has at least four major twists and a few minor ones.

Some may say that’s too many in a single story, but I think that just adds to the film’s campy charm. It throws everything into this plot. That’s also what happens in many great Lifetime movies. The twists keep on coming and have varying degrees of ridiculousness.

I am someone who enjoys figuring out a twist before the reveal happens. Therefore, I had a really good time guessing all of them. I think they were pretty easy, but someone who doesn’t care to figure them out may see these moments as jaw dropping. Whether you figure out the twists early or see them as they happen, you’re still going to be entertained by them.

This especially applies to Lifetime movie fans. These movies and The Stranger in My Home know that a good melodrama needs at least three twists.

I Love That It’s Female-Driven Like All Lifetime Movies

Lifetime prides itself on being a network that has a female target audience. These movies are made with women in mind; made for and about them. So, most of Lifetime’s movies (if not all) are female-driven.

Sophia Bush very much leads and stars in The Stranger in My Home. She is the biggest name attached to it and the one who brings the most to the story. The other actors are also great, and Grey's Anatomy star Chris Carmack has an interesting character with plenty of secrets.

Amiah Miller is also compelling as Katie, one of the daughters dealing with this major, life-altering discovery. Katie and Ali are the ones most affected by this news. I wouldn’t say it's is one of Sophia Bush’s best projects, but it’s a decent movie platform for the One Tree Hill actress.

It reminds us of her on-screen charm, and why she should lead more movies. It’s also a reminder that female-led campy thrillers are the best kind of thrillers.

I Enjoy That The Stranger In My Home Tries To Be A Bit More Scandalous Than Most Lifetime Movies

Most Lifetime movies have some violence, sex, and maybe a bit of light profanity. However, most of the network's movies aren’t that sexually explicit, there is very little profanity, and the violence is almost at a cartoon level (at least the over-the-top violent scenes).

I think that’s the major thing that separates The Stranger in My Home from a Lifetime movie. It’s not made for TV or a certain audience, so it’s allowed to push some boundaries. However, it doesn’t go too explicit or use profanity. It’s still fairly suitable for older teens and above.

Nevertheless, I enjoy that the movie is a bit more bold with its content.

It’s A Serious Movie That Doesn’t Take Itself Too Seriously, And I Think That’s The Essence Of A Good Lifetime Movie

Some Lifetime movies are based on true stories and should be taken seriously. A few are even some of the best movies based on real events. But, a lot of them are fictional or very sensationalized versions of true events. These stories go so far away from realistic that they become almost comical.

I don’t think The Stranger in My Home production team intended to make this movie campy, but the result remains the same. This makes me believe at least some of the ridiculousness is intentional.

The writers, actors, and director helped play into the ridiculous storylines. I think part of the movie’s charm is that it is having fun and not trying to be an overly serious thriller.

Summer hiatus can be a stressful time for fans of any TV shows that like to end seasons on life-or-death cliffhangers, and Grey's Anatomy has a well-deserved reputation for doing just that. Season 21 back in spring of the 2025 TV schedule ended on an explosion that could result in multiple characters' deaths, including Chris Carmack's Link.

Fans will likely have to wait until the Season 22 premiere in the fall for answers, but the actor spoke with CinemaBlend alongside co-star Sophia Bush about their new movie, The Stranger in My Home, which is available on Digital now. While he didn't address Link's fate specifically, I'm taking hope from some of his comments.

What Chris Carmack Told Us

I spoke with Chris Carmack and Sophia Bush for The Stranger in My Home, and it was an interesting experience with two actors who are largely best known for their television work, with Grey's Anatomy and Nashville for Carmack and One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. for Bush.

The Stranger in My Home, in contrast, is a film that turns perfect lives upside down with the reveal that two teen daughters were swapped at birth and spent their whole lives with other families. This movie isn't just a family drama, however, but becomes an increasingly unnerving thriller for Ali (Sophia Bush with a callback to her One Tree Hill days) and daughter Katie (Amiah Miller) when Tom (Carmack) turns up with bombshell reveals, unclear motives, and just a little bit too much charm.

When I spoke with the leads, I had to ask: how does it compare for two well-known TV stars to go all-out for a 95-minute movie? Sophia Bush, who appeared on Grey's Anatomy herself as a guest star, responded first, saying:

I won't spoil the events of the movie here, but I will say that Sophia Bush and Chris Carmack enjoying a "breath of fresh air" while filming The Stranger in My Home doesn't quite match what their characters go through! The trailer alone previews a very complicated dynamic for Ali and Tom. The two actors were clearly on the same page, however, as Carmack shared his own take:

When their comments are applied to The Stranger in My Home, they prove that the actors had a great time working on the movie When those comments are applied to their TV work, however... well, maybe I'm grasping at straws, but they give me hope that Link is coming back alive and well to Grey's Anatomy.

Will Link Survive Grey's Anatomy's Season 22 Premiere?

The Season 21 finale wasn't the first time that Grey's Anatomy's hospital has been rocked by an explosion, but the cliffhanger did set up the first possible real main character death since DeLuca back in Season 17. If you didn't watch the episode when it aired in ABC on May and haven't checked it out with a Hulu subscription in the weeks since, read on for the key points of what you missed when it comes to Chris Carmack as Link.

The episode delivered a hostage situation – also not a first for Grey's Anatomy's seemingly cursed hospital – before the explosion, with Jenna (Piper Perabo) getting creative by bringing a highly flammable acetylene tank into the OR to force Amelia's (Caterina Scorsone) hand on a surgery.

Then, after a brief pause in the action in which it seemed that the tank was empty all along, there was bad news: acetylene has been leaking the whole time. Then came the explosion that gave fans every reason to rewind and count who's safe and who's not for the fall!

Meredith was confirmed to survive even before Ellen Pompeo was announced for Season 22, and Ben (played by Station 19 transplant Jason George) is safe since he was fortunately far from the explosion, although the same can't be said for his wife, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson). Jo (Camilla Luddington) was safely at home as well. Some characters were MIA while others may have been in danger zones without being directly in the pink mist zone. The exception, based on how the episode was edited? Link.

But main characters have been surviving the seemingly unsurvivable on Grey's Anatomy going back to the very earliest years, and Chris Carmack actually took a humorous approach to his character's possible impending doom following the finale. I can't help but take heart from Carmack describing his TV show as "a place that you love," a "place that you know," and "you can't wait to go back" to.

I'm going to take that as a sign that he can't wait to go back to Grey's Anatomy because he definitely will be back on Grey's Anatomy for Season 22. Plus, Link was set up as the most obvious character to be killed off, and Grey's doesn't always go for the obvious choices when it comes to major twists. We can't even rule out cast member Harry Shum Jr.'s pitch that the whole ordeal was a hallucination and nobody dies.

For now, fans of Chris Carmack can always check out The Stranger in My Home, available on Digital now, while waiting for Grey's Anatomy Season 22 to arrive in the fall on ABC.

Sophia Bush may be widely known from the earliest years of her career for hit TV shows, but her turn as Ali for The Stranger in My Home proves yet again that she can deliver in the film format. The movie, based on the novel of the same name by Adele Parks, is a psychological thriller that poses the question of what you would do if somebody close to you isn't who you thought they were, and the answer may leave you on the edge of your seat. In a fun twist, the actress returned to her One Tree Hill roots when it came to the world of high school cheerleading.

The Stranger in My Home also stars Grey's Anatomy's Chris Carmack, Amiah Miller, and Chris Johnson in addition to Sophia Bush. Characters' seemingly perfect lives are turned upside down when Ali (Bush) and her husband (Chris Johnson) learn that their daughter, Katie (Miller), isn't their biological daughter at all due to a mix-up at the hospital. That alone would be enough for a dramatic story, but sinister forces are at work with secrets, lies, and Carmack turning in a much creepier performance as the obsessive Tom than Grey's Anatomy fans are used to. The movie is available on Digital now.

But before everything goes sideways for the characters in this installment in the 2025 movie release schedule, Sophia Bush is back in a high school gym with cheerleaders. The trailer revealed ahead of time that she was helping to coach the teens, and the actress hasn't played One Tree Hill's cheerleading captain Brooke in a long time. Still, when I was fortunate enough to speak with her and Chris Carmack about their thriller, I had to mention the sequence, and she opened up about filming it:

The Stranger in My Home evidently recruited some championship cheerleaders to pull off the trickiest moves. There was a touch of nostalgia in seeing Bush back in a fictional high school gym. Co-star Chris Carmack, a teen drama vet himself as the O.C. star who dropped one of the most iconic lines from the Fox soap's pilot, chuckled as Bush recounted the cheerleading experience for their movie.

Laughs were few and far between in the movie once Carmack's character made his entrance, however! Tom's motives make for one of the greatest mysteries of The Stranger in My Home. The Grey's Anatomy star (who may or may not have been affected by the latest season's explosive cliffhanger) opened up about what "immediately hooked" him about the film's script:

The Stranger in My Home becomes widely available on Digital not too long after the end of Grey's Anatomy Season 21, which also happened to feature Sophia Bush as a guest star while Chris Carmack continued his run as a series regular. Suffice it to say that nobody will be confusing their Grey's characters with Ali and Tom, however!

Sophia Bush shared her own take on what about The Stranger in My Home script and about Ali in particular made her want to sign on. She said:

You can find The Stranger in My Home on Digital now. The twists and turns certainly take Ali in different directions than what Brooke went through even in her wildest One Tree Hill storylines, but you can count on seeing Sophia Bush briefly back in cheerleading mode... before everything takes the creepy turn that made both Bush and Chris Carmack want to sign on, that is.

Grey’s Anatomy has had a pretty eventful last couple of weeks on the 2024 TV schedule. Those big character exits are finally happening, with Levi Schmitt deciding to take a job in Texas, and tragedy striking Mika Yasuda after her big car crash. However, we can’t ignore that amidst all the action and drama, one Sophia Bush made her highly anticipated Grey’s debut as Dr. Cass Beckman. The actress had high praise for the medical drama’s set, and as she teased more appearances to come on Season 21, I can’t wait to see how it will affect Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt.

Cass’ introduction in “Night Moves” — available to stream with a Hulu subscription — proved to be an issue for Owen (Kevin McKidd), when she spontaneously kissed Teddy (Kim Raver) after a few drinks. Owen, who I’ve long thought to be one of Grey’s Anatomy’s worst love interests, immediately blamed his wife for leading Cass on, despite Teddy immediately shutting Cass down and emphasizing that her marriage was not open. Sophia Bush apparently has no trouble being the troublemaker, and she raved to ET about her experience on ABC hit’s set:

Wait, are we going to see Cass Beckman performing surgery? What could happen that results in the Seattle Presbyterian trauma surgeon operating at Grey Sloan? Whatever’s coming up, it sounds like Sophia Bush is excited to be back in the fictional O.R. after previously starring on Good Sam, a 2022 medical drama that only lasted one season on CBS.

We’ll have to wait to see exactly what happens when Cass pops back up, as she only said:

I’m willing to bet that also means the drama between Cass, Teddy and Owen is far from over, and I am so here for it. Owen may have eventually come around to apologize to Teddy for over-reacting, but I don’t think that’s going to matter much if and when he comes face to face with the woman who kissed his wife and suggested that an open marriage might help them out of their slump.

Or maybe Owen will surprise me by being into Cass’ idea, and we’ll get some of those steamier storylines allowed by its new timeslot. Either way, I’m all in for more Sophia Bush on Grey’s Anatomy.

The actress didn’t specify when she’ll be back on the show, but fans would surely love to see her in this week’s episode “Drop It Like It’s Hot” — airing at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, November 21, on ABC — since this is the fall finale and the last episode until Grey’s Anatomy returns to the 2025 TV schedule in March.

Fans of Sophia Bush are thrilled to see the Good Sam star make her way to the 2024 TV schedule on another medical drama, as it was announced she’ll be a major recurring character on Grey’s Anatomy’s 21st season. But let’s be real, there are few things more exciting on the actress’ schedule than the upcoming One Tree Hill sequel, which was confirmed in August to be moving forward with members of the original cast. Details are scarce at this point, but one thing I can say is I fully agree with the change Bush hopes to see in her character.

Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton will reprise their roles as BFFs Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer on the One Tree Hill sequel, as well as serve as executive producers alongside Danneel and Jensen Ackles. Danneel was also in talks to return as Rachel Gatina. When we last saw Brooke, she was taking over the fashion world with her line Clothes Over Bros, so of course that would be amongst Bush’s main concerns for how her character has changed. She said on her Drama Queens podcast:

It’s true that on watch-backs of One Tree Hill (which you can do on Hulu or Max — two of the best streaming services to subscribe to), some of the outfits might inspire some second-hand embarrassment. However, we all know that fashion is cyclical, and with the teen drama series first premiering in 2003, I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised to see those trends rearing their heads again. We’ve already had Y2K belly chain and the early 2000s thong-baring looks resurface in the celebrity fashion circles.

As for what exactly Brooke Davis is wearing these days, that’s not something Sophia Bush has been able to put too much thought into yet, but she knows one essential item that will be in her character’s closet, as she continued:

Sophia Bush and the other members of One Tree Hill’s cast have had some mixed feelings over the years about reviving the beloved teen drama. Her stance on the matter has obviously softened over time, but not everyone feels that way. Chad Michael Murray does not plan to return, which leaves us with huge concerns about Lucas Scott and the status of him and Peyton, who we last saw together when Murray and Hilarie Burton left after Season 6. We know they were still an item when the actor made a guest appearance on Season 9, but has time not been kind to the couple?

While we wait on more details to come about the sequel, at least we don’t have to wait long to see Sophia Bush on the small screen again. The actress is joining Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Cass Beckman, a Seattle Presbyterian trauma surgeon who is married to Grey Sloan's cardiothoracic surgeon David Beckman. Previews for the episode “Night Moves” show her suggesting one way that Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt might spice up their marriage.

There's a new doctor in the hosptial, and she's a pretty big deal! Sophia Bush will be joining the cast of Grey's Anatomy for the season airing on the 2024 TV schedule, and she couldn't be more excited. However, she's obviously not the only one thrilled about the news, because fans are rightfully freaking out about this addition too.

It was announced today that Sophia Bush will have a major recurring role in Grey's 21st season, according to Deadline . She'll be playing Dr. Cass Beckman, a trauma surgeon who works at Seattle Presbyterian and is married to Grey Sloan's cardiothoracic surgeon David Beckman. To show off her new character and her return to wearing scrubs, the actress posted this cute video on Instagram:

While Grey's Anatomy has turned many up-in-coming actors into stars – like Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh – and it’s had its fair share of famous cast members – like Debbie Allen – this is one of its highest-profile additions in recent history. Bush is an iconic television actress, and she's been a staple of network TV since the early 2000s.

So, there's understandably a lot of hype surrounding her joining the ensemble, as you can see from the smattering of comments her post received:

Along with starring in massive hits like One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D., the actress also has experience in the world of medical procedurals. Bush returned to network TV to star in and executive produced the CBS series Good Sam, which garnered comparisons to Grey’s. However, it sadly was part of a swath of cancellations in 2022. So, it’ll be lovely to see the beloved actress back in scrubs.

While Grey’s has fewer episodes this season, it’s been promised that a whole lot of story will be packed into them, and we can’t wait to see how Bush is worked into it. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long to see her as Dr. Beckman either. Per Deadline, she’ll be introduced in Episode 6, which will air on November 7.

Truly, this season of Grey’s Anatomy is shaping up to be an exciting one, especially considering the cast they’ve assembled for it. Along with the regulars and Bush, Natalie Morales will be back as Dr. Monica Beltran, and Scott Speedman is reprising his role as Meredith’s love interest Nick Marsh. Adding to the exciting list of recurring characters, Debbie Allen will return to play Catherine Fox. Plus, I’m sure the ABC show has some fun surprises up its sleeves too, because it always seems to.

All this is to say, Season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy is star-studded and full of fan favorites and exciting additions. So, as we count down the days to Sophia Bush’s debut on the series, make sure you tune into new episodes as they air on ABC every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET or stream them the next day with a Hulu subscription.

One Tree Hill’s sequel series sounds intriguing. I like the idea of Peyton and Brooke going about their lives decades after the original show with their teenage kids. I also like the premise of catching back up with these two beloved characters. However, I’m concerned about the lack of news surrounding Chad Michael Murray’s and the rest of the OTH cast's involvement.

When the initial news broke about the One Tree Hill sequel series, Deadline reported that Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton would be executive producing the show and returning to play Brooke and Peyton. The two women then confirmed the news with heartfelt Instagram posts about returning to Tree Hill. However, no one else from the original cast is officially attached to the series and one notable name is apparently not returning. So, yeah, I have concerns about this reboot.

Chad Michael Murray’s Lucas Is Reportedly Not Coming Back. What Does That Mean For Lucas And Peyton? 

Alright, here’s the deal, Chad Michael Murray was the only actor mentioned in the initial news when it came to people who wouldn’t be coming back, as Deadline’s report explained:

So, that probably means they won’t be together if he’s really not coming back, and that, to be blunt, sucks.

In Peyton and Lucas’ last episode of One Tree Hill (which was Season 6, Episode 24 “Remember Me as a Time of Day,” Hilarie Burton’s character gave birth to their daughter, and then the couple and their baby drove off into the sunset. After that, in Season 9, Murray reprised his role as Lucas in Episode 7, and during it he confirmed that he was still with Peyton, saying this as he spoke about his partner and daughter:

We know they were still together even though they weren’t in the show after Season 6. It would be heartbreaking to find out in this sequel series that Peyton and Lucas broke up, or worse, Lucas died. Now, I realize that the second option feels dramatic, but if you’ve seen One Tree Hill you know that they do surprising stuff like that, so it’s possible. Either way, I can’t stand to think that they aren’t together.

They went through so much adversity to end up with each other in One Tree Hill, and I feel like it’d backtrack on all of that to have them divorced in this new show. Plus, their daughter, Sawyer, was born in 2009, which would make her about 15 today (assuming the show will take place in the present). While OTH is all about the drama, I don’t want that to be explored by way of Peyton and Lucas breaking up. Haven’t they been through enough?

Hilarie Burton has said herself that “Peyton Sawyer doesn’t have nice moments,” with her specifically referring to her last episode in OTH. She deserves some “nice moments,” and I’d love some of them to come by way of her romance with Lucas.

Of course, there are ways this could work without him, I mean they did make the show work for three more seasons after Murray and Burton left. However, it’s by no means the ideal situation.

I Don't Know How A Show In Tree Hill Could Work Without Bethany Joy Lenz And James Lafferty

Along similar lines, while their participation was neither confirmed nor denied, I’m worried that Bethany Joy Lenz and James Lafferty won’t be back as Haley and Nathan.

Considering the original series' only constant couple was Nathan and Haley, to me it seems unfathomable to make a show without them. While One Tree Hill started with a story about brothers at its core, as it progressed Lafferty and Lenz played the characters who became the beating heart of the series.

Now, obviously, they could come back. As I said, Chad Michael Murray is reportedly the only one not returning at the moment. However, I find it odd that they weren’t attached to it from the jump, therefore I’m concerned about us getting a One Tree Hill sequel series that doesn’t include Nathan and Haley.

Notably, the OTH re-watch podcast Drama Queens – which was hosted by Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz – switched up the hosting line-up recently as Burton stepped down and Robert Buckley took her place. They did this because they reached the point in the show where Peyton left.

However, months before that, rumors started to float around that Burton and Lenz were feuding, per Glamour. Notably, though, none of that is confirmed, and the three women haven’t addressed it.

It’s hard not to wonder about the “what ifs,” though, including what if this drama is real and it’s going to impact who is cast in this sequel series.

When I think about One Tree Hill, Nathan and Haley are who I think of first and who I care the most about. I want to see where their kids went after the show ended, seeing as Jamie would probably be about 18 and Lydia would be about 13. And I’d love to see how their lives changed as their kids grew and Nathan’s basketball career was put firmly behind him.

Honestly, if they were missing, there would be a big hole in the show, much like there was back in the day when Peyton and Lucas drove off. Sure, they can explain their absence by simply saying they moved out of Tree Hill, and it’d probably be fine. However, I fear that the show could fall flat without them.

Luckily, both actors are very connected to the series. As I mentioned, Lenz co-hosts a rewatch podcast, and Lafferty has participated in multiple charity basketball games that are also One Tree Hill reunions. Plus, if Sophia Bush softened her stand on a reboot, why can’t they? All in all, I know their love for the show is still there, and I hope they are part of the group of actors who are reportedly in “informal conversations” about joining the series.

Overall, while I’m feeling concerned about the involvement of Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz, I am excited to see what happens with this One Tree Hill spinoff. It’s still early days, so anything truly can happen, and that includes these three being involved. However, at this moment they aren’t, and that’s why I’m feeling iffy about this sequel series.

A One Tree Hill sequel series is moving forward; understandably, many are emotional about the news, including its stars. Months after Sophia Bush revealed she’d softened her stance on a possible revival, it was announced she and Hilarie Burton would be returning to Tree Hill for a new show. They'll serve as executive producers and reprise their beloved roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively. Now, the two confirmed the news by sharing emotional posts about coming back to their characters and the world of One Tree Hill.

The actresses shared the same statement on their respective Instagrams after the news broke to celebrate the upcoming series. Alongside very appropriate gifs tailored to their characters and a photo of them with co-stars Bevin Prince and Danneel Ackles – who is producing the new show with husband Jensen Ackles under their Chaos Machine banner – was an emotional caption that makes it all the more real that a return to Tree Hill is finally in the cards:

Even though OTH is a TV show that went on too long, a sequel series is something I can get behind. It also seems like Bush and Burton are as ready as ever to bring “Breyton” back into the fold.

The series always did a great job of feeling like a home, both for the characters and the viewers. This new sequel series already feels like that in more ways than one, and I’m emotional just thinking about it.

For a bit of context about why this is such a big deal, the fact that Hilarie Burton is on board is a pleasant surprise. She and Chad Michael Murray left at the end of Season 6. While Murray returned in a guest appearance for Season 9, Burton never came back, even when it came time for her best friend’s wedding. So, the fact that she's returning all these years later is extra exciting.

It’s hard to predict just what will happen and what will bring Peyton and Brooke back together in Tree Hill. However, as she, Sophia Bush, the series itself, and the series finale say, there really is only one Tree Hill. So, you know their return is going to be just as special as the town they're coming back to.

It was also only a matter of time before a new One Tree Hill series happened. It’s been 12 years since the WB/CW drama came to an end, but it is still arguably one of the best teen dramas streaming with a Hulu subscription. Despite behind-the-scenes controversy involving creator Mark Schwahn, most of the OTH cast has remained tight, and they'll get together for fan events or the rewatch podcast Drama Queens.

As of now, not many details have been revealed, but the series is at Netflix and in active development. With Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton attached, and possibly more to come, it wouldn’t be surprising if it eventually got the full order. So, fans will have to be patient and hope that they will be able to go back home to Tree Hill in the near future.

Never say never when it comes to the returns of hit shows with enthusiastic former stars, as the rumored revival of One Tree Hill has reportedly taken a big step forward. A sequel series is in the works for a very different platform than The WB/The CW where the original aired, with the very familiar faces from former One Tree Hill cast members already attached. That's not even all of the good news, so keep on reading for what you can expect from the new project.

While the sequel has not received a series order at the time of writing, Variety reports that the project is actively in development with Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles as executive producers. Bush and Burton are already signed on to reprise their roles as Brooke and Peyton, respectively, and Ackles – who is producing alongside husband and Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles as part of their Chaos Machine production company – is said to be in talks to return on screen as Rachel as well.

I'd qualify that as plenty of good news straight off the bat, especially after Sophia Bush explained why she was coming around to a revival earlier this year despite previously saying that the idea of a revival was "complicated." Would anybody really be that invested in another story set in the One Tree Hill world without original stars?

Netflix and WBTV have not commented on the revival development reports at the time of writing, but I think it also qualifies as good news that original series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Mark Schwahn is not involved in the new project. Quite aside from the fact that the consensus among fans is that the later seasons were weaker than the earlier seasons, Schwahn was accused of sexual harassment of women in the cast and behind the scenes at One Tree Hill during its nine-season run. Hilarie Burton has even opened up about how the abuse continued to affect her even long after leaving the series.

There is some bad news, however. While Deadline reports that there have been talks between the executive producers and their fellow former castmates, Chad Michael Murray does not plan to return as Lucas Scott for the sequel series. This presents a potential problem, as Peyton and Lucas were together at the end of Season 9. In some better news about continuity from the end of One Tree Hill to however the story continues, Brooke's twin sons Davis and Jude are also said to be part of the series as teens, which suggests that the reboot could pick up in real time much like Netflix's Gilmore Girls revival did. The original ended in 2012.

All in all, I think there's more to celebrate than be bummed about at this point, even with the news that Chad Michael Murray is unlikely to return. There are plenty of cast members who seemingly haven't shot down potential returns, and there's no denying the enthusiasm of Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton. Along with Bethany Joy Galeotti (née Lenz), the two have been hosting the Drama Queens rewatch podcast to revisit their One Tree Hill days.

Sophia Bush is known for many projects over the years of her career, including four seasons of NBC primetime with Chicago P.D. and the iconic 2006 teen comedy John Tucker Must Die. That said, many of her fans have been following her since her days as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill, where she starred for all nine of the WB/CW show’s seasons. Now, more than ten years after the 2012 finale with the 2024 TV schedule in full swing, Bush explained why she couldn’t change her hair as Brooke.

Despite opening up about negative set experiences on One Tree Hill due to the behavior of creator Mark Schwahn, Sophia Bush has remained fond of the series and her co-stars, including kinda sorta coming around to the idea of a revival and co-hosting the Drama Queens rewatch podcast with fellow OTH alums Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz. Bush reflected on why she wasn’t allowed to change her hair throughout the era of that show (a.k.a. from 2003-2012) during a recent appearance on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

She and celeb partner Alex Edelman were asked about what “pulling a Felicity” means after a TV incident in the ‘90s. Bush didn’t waste a moment, quickly saying:

Felicity starred Keri Russell, was created by J.J. Abrams, and ran for four seasons on The WB from 1999-2002, meaning that Felicity was still fresh in pop culture when One Tree Hill premiered in 2003. While there were undoubtedly many reasons why the critically acclaimed Felicity’s ratings dipped drastically from Season 1 to Season 2, the legend around Felicity is that it was doomed as soon as Keri Russell’s curly hair was cut to a bob for Season 2. The origin of the haircut was actually a joke played by Russell, but it became an infamous reality.

And apparently, the higher ups at One Tree Hill were so determined to avoid “pulling a Felicity” with Sophia Bush and presumably the rest of the cast that personal haircuts were just not allowed. I doubt the biggest reason for Felicity tanking really is Keri Russell's hair, but OTH certainly did run for longer than Felicity did. Russell’s show ended after 84 episodes over four seasons; One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons and 187 episodes.

Sophia Bush could clearly laugh about the haircut rule nowadays, but I have to wonder if she felt differently back in her WB/CW days. Nina Dobrev was unfortunately involved in a fairly serious situation just recently. It was revealed this week that the actress was involved in an apparent motorbike accident, after which she sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Boyfriend Shaun White shared a photo of her after the situation happened, which showed Dobrev resting alongside her and White’s dog. The star herself has now shared her own update on social media, and it’s been met with a multitude of loving reactions from fellow stars. Among them are other members of The Vampire Diaries cast and crew, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sophia Bush. 

The 35-year-old Bulgaria-born star took to Instagram to share an update with her social media followers in the aftermath of her accident. Her post included two photos – one that showed her on the bike before the unfortunate mishap occurred and another of her in a hospital bed sometime later. Seemingly being cheeky, the Degrassi: The Next Generation alum included the caption, “how it started vs how it’s going.” Check out her post down below:

Shaun White’s post showed Nina Dobrev on a plane, wearing a knee brace with that particular leg elevated. She was also without the neck brace that she wore while in the hospital. The actress also shared another selfie from her hospital stint on her Instagram story. Not only that, but she also shared a message, saying, “I'm ok but it's going to be a long road of recovery ahead.” 

It’s unfortunate that the 35-year-old actress has to go through this but, at the very least, she seems to be attempting to remain upbeat amid the circumstance. As so many of us have seen or heard about in the past, actors, producers, directors and more can forge tight bonds with one another. With so many connections, there can come a point where a star finds themself with a village of people ready to be in their corner. Based on the comments under the Love Hard star’s post, I’d say that there are plenty of people who care for her, and you love to see it.

On top of that, kudos to Shaun White for apparently sticking by his lady throughout her bike ordeal. The 37-year-old former Olympic snowboarder began dating Nina Dobrev in 2020, and the two have since been somewhat open about their romance. Funny enough, the athlete recalled the relationship starting off with a bit of ego bruising and, since then, the two have jokingly poked fun at each other. Dobrev even playfully trolled her man with a playful social media post involving their dog. As for whether Dobrev and White will get engaged, the latter said in 2023 that the two of them are just enjoying their time together at this stage.

More immediately though, what’s incredibly important is that Nina Dobrev gets some downtime and is able to recuperate as needed. One would think that she’ll continue to feel the love from her boyfriend, fellow celebrities and fans as she does so.

One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush had the public in shock last summer when it was reported the actress had filed divorce from her husband Grant Hughes just one year after their wedding. Now Bush has now shared her side of the story, including getting honest about her queer identity and romance with former US soccer player Ashlyn Harris, whom she has been linked to since October of last year. 

In the months following her separation from Hughes, Sophia Bush began being linked to Harris, leading the internet to speculate the couple had been unfaithful to their spouses, especially with reports of Ashlyn Harris’ wife Ali Krieger filing for divorce just a month after Bush’s own bombshell breakup. As she wrote candidly, just prior to her wedding she actually was close to “calling” it off, but opted to go through with it anyway. With this show widely considered one of the best teen dramas, it’s not a surprise that the One Tree Hill cast members have been asked many times over the years about a revival, and while that was apparently out of the question for Sophia Bush at one point, it seems she’s warmed to the idea a little bit. The actress has also apparently put some thought into where her character Brooke Davis would be today.

After One Tree Hill ended its nine-season run in 2012, it was learned that the young actresses and others working on the show had endured years of harassment at the hands of creator Mark Schwahn, and the abuse has continued to affect their lives. So no one could blame them for not wanting to reprise those characters and return to that world. However, it seems that through doing the Drama Queens podcast with former co-stars Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz, Sophia Bush has softened her stance against a revival, telling E! News: 

Her outlook on the issue, she said, has changed from “never to never say never,” and that’s likely because the women have found some healing in Drama Queens. Sophia Bush has said that at first they were nervous to open up about their negative experiences on the One Tree Hill set, because they didn’t want to taint this show that so many people loved. However, in being honest, all three actresses have said they’ve become closer to their fans. 

As far as seeing them share the screen again, members of the One Tree Hill cast have reunited on other projects, including Christmas TV movies like 2018’s The Christmas Contract. Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz also guest-starred on Sophia Bush’s medical series Good Sam in 2022.

With such a large cast, though — and, yes, any revival would need to star the OG cast — the former Chicago P.D. actress has said figuring out all of their hectic schedules would be complicated. That doesn’t mean she hasn’t given it thought, though, and she’s got a great idea of where Brooke would be today. She told E! News: 

I can totally see her holding an office, after we last saw her dominating the fashion world. I mean, what can't Brooke Davis do? Of course, One Tree Hill fans would likely be happy with any plot if it meant getting the North Carolina team back together. Many of us have our favorite eateries and food-producing entities and, because of that, it can be quite devastating whenever one closes down. That’s what a lot of people are feeling right now in the aftermath of a notable bakery’s decision to close its doors. The L.A.-based Sweet Lady Jane confirmed that it’s officially gone out of business. In the aftermath of the announcement, stars like Blake Lively and Sophia Bush are sharing this disappointment. But Tom Sandoval of Vanderpump Rules had different feelings and didn’t hold them back.

As mentioned by Sweet Lady Jane’s official website, the bakery was founded by Jane Lockhart and opened in Melrose in 1988. In the years that followed, the establishment grew in popularity and became a staple of the California community. The dessert shop was arguably most famous for its cakes but also its pies, cookies and tarts. Much of the offerings were fruit-infused, including the famous Triple Berry Cake. It’s clear to see by the responses above that plenty of stars as well as a host of non-famous fans are going to miss this neighborhood institution. That doesn’t seem to be the case with everyone, though. The previously mentioned Bravo star doesn’t seem all that unhappy, and there’s a specific reason for that.

Why Did Tom Sandoval Throw Shade At Sweet Lady Jane’s After It Went Out Of Business?

Tom Sandoval made headlines in a big way in 2023 amid the infamous reality TV-related scandal known as “Scandoval.” It was revealed that the Vanderpump Rules star cheated on co-star and longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix with her best friend/fellow co-star Raquel Leviss. A considerable number of fans and notable media personalities took the entrepreneur to task for his actions, even after Sandoval broke his silence on the situation. Among those to chastise him were Sweet Lady Jane, which shared the following post last spring: 

The Internet doesn’t forget, however, and that rings true for stars of the long-running Bravo series as well. Series alum Billie Lee spotted the closure announcement and tagged Tom Sandoval in a post, posing the question “karma?!” Sandoval then responded, saying:

Well, tell us how you really feel. That may sound harsh but, of course, he is entitled to his opinions. It also sounds like he’s over all the flak he received. Tom Sandoval’s relationship with Raquel Leviss was highly analyzed after the affair came out. Some later noticed that Sandoval and Leviss wore matching necklaces for months. Sandoval eventually apologized to Ariana Madix, while Leviss apologized for her actions as well and later opted to leave the hit show.

Presently, though, Tom Sandoval seems to be a relative outlier when it comes to those who have feelings on the demise of Sweet Lady Jane. It really looks like Blake Lively, Sophia Bush and so many more are going to miss the location and the baked goods it produced for so many years. 

Those who are eager to see more of the reality TV veteran’s exploits, however, can look forward to the Vanderpump Rules Season 11 premiere airing on Tuesday, January 30 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo as part of the 2024 TV schedule. You can also catch up on past episodes using a Peacock subscription.

One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. alum Sophia Bush married husband Grant Hughes back in the summer of 2022, but their union appears to be on the verge of ending. The actress has reportedly filed for divorce from Hughes, with the news coming less than two months after the couple celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary. 

Sophia Bush filed for divorce from Grant Hughes on Friday, August 4, according to People. The outlet cites a source saying that the two "were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service," and that they will "continue to run their nonprofit together and remain good friends." 

Their nonprofit is called The Bush Hughes Foundation for Progress and was established to promote equity, social justice, and progress in Tulsa, OK. The two married at the City County Clerk's Office in Tulsa in June of 2022, just under a month after the somewhat surprising cancellation of Bush's medical drama, called Good Sam, at CBS.  

Neither Sophia Bush nor Grant Hughes have publicly commented on her divorce filing at the time of writing. Via People, the actress celebrated their wedding anniversary in June with the following message on Instagram along with a photo of their wedding day, although that post has evidently since been taken down: 

Grant Hughes also posted on Instagram to celebrate their anniversary back in June, and his message and photos are still available on his account. Take a look:

Sophia Bush responded in his comment section with "Multitudes my babe," and the sweet post also attracted attention and comments from other celebrities, including Breaking Bad alum Aaron Paul and Bush's former One Tree Hill co-star Hilarie Burton, the latter of whom reunited with Bush on the small screen for an episode of Good Sam last year. 

It remains to be seen if and when Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes publicly comment on her filing for divorce seven weeks after their wedding anniversary, on which they exchanged sweet words. Of course, with the source close to the pair stating that they remain good friends and have been friends for a decade, hopefully the process will be as smooth as possible, especially compared to other recent celebrity divorces like Yellowstone star Keven Costner's split from wife Christine Baumgartner. 

While Sophia Bush has moved on in her on-screen career from One Tree Hill, she has since joined forces with former co-stars Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz for the "Drama Queens" rewatch podcast. In addition to rewatching, they have opened up about shooting to fame from The WB/The CW show, including when they appeared on the cover of Maxim. Bush has plenty of fans from her years in showbiz, and hopefully she and Grant Hughes will get the support they need as their divorce moves forward. 

Back in the early 2000s the ladies of One Tree Hill were icons, especially to the women and girls who grew up loving the show. In 2006 during Season 4 of the show, three actresses on the show, Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Danneel Ackles appeared on the cover of Maxim. Now Bush and Burton, along with their co-star Bethany Joy Lenz opened up about the misogyny and abuse of power on the set of the photoshoot. 

Burton started the conversation about the magazine shoot on the One Tree Hill rewatch podcast Drama Queens, saying: 

Bush also explained how they had carefully chosen their outfits that day, and then discussed how their bodies were altered after the photo shoot, she said: 

Both Bush and Burton explained that they had to participate in the photoshoot. The actress behind Brooke explained that she was given an ultimatum when she said she didn’t want to do it, she explained: 

Along with being forced into the shoot, Burton also explained that the “boss” who visited the set of the Maxim shoot had given her an iPod with music that he had thought “was applicable” to her. She said it was given to her to put Bush “in her place” and make Danneel Ackles “jealous.” Bush said the situation was “scary and uncomfortable.” 

Burton, who ended up leaving the One Tree Hill cast early, and praised her co-star for convincing her to do it, has been open about the abuse on the set of the CW show, and how it still affects her. She explained that she will be proud if her daughter tells someone off because she wished she “had had the ability to do that.” 

The other host of the podcast, Bethany Joy Lenz explained that she felt like she had been “replaced” because a different actress was put on the cover with Burton and Bush rather than her. She explained that she was told she wasn’t asked by Maxim because she “was too fat” and “wasn’t the ‘hot girl.’” This was news to Bush and Burton, and both actresses were shocked and angry when they learned that the magazine didn’t ask Lenz to do the shoot. This was because they had been told she refused to do the photoshoot. 

This is not the first uncomfortable story to come from the actresses, on their podcast they have talked about many uncomfortable and scary situations they have been put in. Eventually, everything the people on One Tree Hill became known, and the showrunner of it and later The Royals Mark Schwahn was fired from The Royals over sexual harassment allegations. 

These three actresses started the Drama Queens podcast back in 2021, and Bush explained that they were nervous to speak about their on-set experiences because they were “scared to break hearts.” However, now, they like talking about the show, and Lenz explained that rewatching it has been “healing.”

Sophia Bush came full circle as an actress with medical drama Good Sam on CBS, where she starred as Dr. Samantha Griffith opposite Jason Isaacs playing her father. Sam was a top surgeon whose status at her hospital was more than a little complicated when she had to oversee her father’s work, when their positions had previously been switched. Although the finale aired back in May, you can soon revisit the full first season with the DVD release, and a sneak peek at the gag reel – including Sophia Bush cracking up at the “trickster” Jason Isaacs – can give you a taste of what to expect. Check it out above!

Season 1 of Good Sam is available for pre-order now and will be available for purchase on Tuesday, October 25. Although the CBS show was definitely a drama, the sneak peek at the gag reel proves that the cast was having plenty of fun as well. Whether it was Jason Isaacs as Sophia Bush’s “saboteur” with a prop during a breakfast scene between Sam and Griff, Sophia Bush accidentally squealing in Edwin Hodge’s ear, or the cast surprising Skye Marshall for her birthday, there are plenty of laughs with this peek behind the scenes. 

The Season 1 DVD set is also the full series set, as Good Sam was cancelled after the first batch of 13 episodes. It did stand out from other medical dramas on network TV, including Grey’s Anatomy, and ended with an intense finale. There was a lot to enjoy in those 13 episodes, with Good Sam marking Sophia Bush’s first series regular role since leaving Chicago P.D. years earlier, and even finding a way to deliver a fun One Tree Hill reunion between Bush and former co-stars Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz.

The medical drama debuted in a competitive time slot on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, which was actually against Chicago P.D. – a.k.a. Sophia Bush’s former show – on NBC. Launching in a time slot already dominated by a show nearly a decade in meant an uphill battle for Good Sam, but the ratings suggested that it found a steady (although not quite huge) audience in the second half of the season. Sadly, the numbers weren’t enough to guarantee that Bush and Co. would be back for a second season in the 2022 fall TV season. 

Many shows got bad news at the end of the spring season, and only time will tell what’s next for Sophia Bush on the small screen. Co-star Edwin Hodge stuck around CBS, although to join a very different show. He’s the newest series regular on the network’s FBI: Most Wanted. Whatever the future holds for the cast of Good Sam, the DVD set at least means that it will be easy to revisit Sam’s emotional highs and lows over Season 1.

John Tucker Must Die (2006) is the perfect example of a movie that checks all the teen rom-com boxes. Dorky girl who’s actually hot? Check. Love triangle? Check. Varsity basketball team full of men that look way too old to be in high school? Double check. But, what became of the actors who created this piece of early-2000s culture? 

Luckily for fans of the movie, many of the actors have been pretty busy since the release of John Tucker Must Die. But, like many actors from any era of film and TV, you might have to look a little bit harder to track these stars down.

Here’s what all your favorite John Tucker Must Die actors have been up to lately, including the projects you can catch them in if you’ve been missing them in the nearly 20 years since the film came out.

Brittany Snow (Kate)

Shy outsider-turned-“it girl” Kate was played by Brittany Snow, a teen queen from this era of TV and movies.

Shortly after the release of John Tucker Must Die, Snow starred in Hairspray (2007) as Amber von Tussle, although most fans of the actress would probably first recognize her from her role in the Pitch Perfect movies as Chloe, the bubbly soprano whose vocal nodes turn her into a bass.

In the years since, Snow has starred in ore guested on a number of TV series, including Ben and Kate, Full Circle, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Almost Family, as well as the A24 horror film, X (2022). Upcoming projects for Brittany Snow include Stripped and Big Nickel, both currently in pre-production.

Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker)

The titular character in John Tucker Must Die was played by Jesse Metcalfe, a teen-heartthrob actor who successfully carried the weight of portraying an unlikable character who still has enough redeeming qualities to make the audience root for him.

After the release of John Tucker Must Die, Metcalfe continued his recurring role on the ABC drama Desperate Housewives, as well as performing in a number of other TV shows, including Chase and Dallas.

In the years following John Tucker Must Die, Metcalfe became a staple of Hallmark romantic TV movies, acting in a number of them, including A Country Wedding, Fairfield Road, and Christmas Next Door. You may also recognize Metcalfe from films like Beyond A Reasonable Doubt and the Dead Rising zombie thriller series.

In the future, Metcalfe will appear in On a Wing and a Prayer, a drama/thriller about a pilot who dies in the middle of a flight; he’ll also star in the third installment of the Fortress franchise, although a release date hasn’t yet been announced.

Sophia Bush (Beth)

In addition to playing Beth, a character regrettably referred to as a “vegan slut” in John Tucker Must Die, Sophia Bush is best known for her nine-year run as Brooke David on the CW drama One Tree Hill.

While still working on One Tree Hill, Bush appeared in the horror film The Hitcher, as well as the comedy, Table for Three.

In the years since the conclusion of One Tree Hill, Sophia Bush has appeared in a number of TV series, including Partners, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Good Sam, and Love, Victor. From 2013 to 2017, she also held a starring role on Chicago P.D. as detective Erin Lindsay, while guest starring as that character on Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.

Bush is also known for her podcasts, including Work In Progress and Drama Queens OTH, the latter of which discusses One Tree Hill plotlines, behind-the-scenes commentary, and even negative set experiences from the stars of the show themselves.

Upcoming appearances for Bush include Junction, a movie about the opioid crisis in America, set to premiere some time in 2023.

Penn Badgley (Scott)

Penn Badgley was the “dorky” little brother in John Tucker Must Die, but he evolved into Joe Goldberg, everyone’s favorite serial killer from the Netflix original series You.

Prior to appearing in the highly successful thriller series, Badgley's best roles were in Easy A (one of my personal favorite teen comedies) alongside Emma Stone, as well as the massively popular series, Gossip Girl, where he starred for six seasons as Dan Humphrey.

While Badgley has been pretty busy with You since its premiere in 2018, you can also catch him in the recent mob-thriller, The Birthday Cake (2021).

Ashanti (Heather)

While Ashanti’s most popular film appearance is probably that of spunky cheerleader Heather in John Tucker Must Die, the actress/singer is a Grammy award-winning artist. If you need an Ashanti fix, she’s starred in many music videos during her long career as an R&B singer, all of which are available to watch on YouTube.

Ashanti appeared in Army Wives as Latasha Monclair, but has also played herself in small roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Dynasty.

Ashanti will appear in the upcoming film, The Plus One, alongside fellow early-2000s movie alum, Jonathan Bennett.

Arielle Kebbel (Carrie)

Right around the same time as John Tucker Must Die, Arielle Kebbel appeared in the mermaid movie, Aquamarine, portraying the role of the local bully, Cecilia. In the years following these successful films, Kebbel has appeared in movies like Daydreamer (2007) and Vampires Suck (2010).

She also appeared in the CW show 90210 as Vanessa Shaw, as well as a number of other television shows including The League, The Vampire Diaries, Midnight, Texas, Ballers, and 9-1-1. She’s also starred in some TV movies for the Hallmark channel, much like fellow John Tucker Must Die star Jesse Metcalfe.

In 2022, Kebbel will star in the film, Site, a horror movie about an abandoned government test site.

Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg (Lori)

Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, known at the time as Jenny McCarthy, played the role of Kate’s free-spirited mom, Lori, in John Tucker Must Die. In the years since the film’s release, McCarthy has starred in shows like Tripping the Rift, In the Motherhood, Two and a Half Men, and Return of the Mac.

Fans of Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg can currently find her on The Masked Singer, where she serves as a panelist on the popular celebrity singing competition.

Taylor Kitsch (Justin)

After playing the minor role of Justin in John Tucker Must Die, Taylor Kitsch went on to originate the role of Tim Riggins in the series Friday Night Lights (which might be rebooted).

In the years since Friday Night Lights, Kitsch has appeared in movies such as John Carter (2012), Lone Survivor (2013), and the recently released Amazon series, The Terminal List. More of Kitsch’s TV work includes a lead role on the anthology series, True Detective, as well as the lead in the miniseries, Waco.

In 2022, Kitsch will appear in the new TV miniseries Painkiller, a Netflix drama about the opioid crisis.

Patricia Drake (Coach Williams)

Patricia Drake’s portrayal of the strict cheerleading coach in John Tucker Must Die is just one credit in this actor’s lengthy filmography. 

Following John Tucker Must Die, Drake appeared in the TV series The Guard, Class of the Titans, and Being Ian. She’s also done a fair amount of voice work for Barbie-related projects, as well as the 2018 Polly Pocket series.

Most recently, Drake was seen in Mike Flanagan’s horror series, Midnight Mass. She’ll appear in the next Mike Flanagan work, The Midnight Club, as well, which is set to premiere some time in 2022.

Terrell J. Ramsey (Tommy)

Known by the name Fatso-Fasano at the time of John Tucker Must Die, actor Terrell J. Ramsey now goes by his real name.

Ramsey is known for the TV series Weeds, but has had a number of smaller roles, including stints on The Mentalist, Entourage, Harry’s Law, and Kidding. In 2022, Ramsey will star in Cheddy Ace, a comedy about a man and his nephews working to repay a debt to a local gang.

The 2022 Oscars was something to remember. There were some legendary wins, such as Ariana DeBose’s historic accolade or CODA receiving Best Picture. But nothing was quite talked about more than the slap that was heard around the world. That’s right, I’m talking about Will Smith defending his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, after Chris Rock made fun of her alopecia on stage that night, when he walked up to him and slapped the comedian straight across the face.

The response from the world has been mixed, to say the least, with some agreeing with what Smith did and others, not so much, and this comes from those in Hollywood, as well. From people who have co-starred with Smith, or were friends with Rock, to people who just wanted to share their opinion on the matter, here are nine celebrities and how they felt about that infamous slap. 

Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey is known for his fun TV hosting skills and creating some viral moments on Family Feud, and he decided to comment on the incident, calling it a “punk move” on Smith’s part, during a speaking engagement that happened at Georgia State University, via Deadline. Commenting on his nature as a Christian and how he personally feels, he said:

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg has made her name in Hollywood by appearing in many movies and drawing eyes to The View, where she’s acted as a moderator for several years now. But, like everyone else, she also commented on the slap, saying that “nobody is OK” with what occurred, while on The View:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Likewise, famous NBA all-star, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (who actually guest-starred on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air way back when alongside Smith) went online to express his thoughts on the matter, but did so in his own personal essay on Substack. You can read Abdul-Jabbar's full statement there, but he did talk about how it was so inappropriate for Smith to do what he did, and how it paints not only the entertainment industry but the Black community in a bad light:  

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is known for her numerous contributions to the music industry, specifically in the rap genre as a Black female artist, but on Twitter the night of the Oscars slap, she offered her thoughts on the matter, and agreed with what Smith did, saying that you have to think of it from his perspective: 

Tim Allen

Next up, we have Tim Allen, a comedic actor known for many great movie roles, who, while he wasn’t in attendance at the ceremony, wanted to express his thoughts on the manner on Twitter as well, commending Rock’s way of handling the situation and condemning what Smith did: 

Tiffany Haddish 

Tiffany Haddish has been making a name for herself in Hollywood over the last several years with appearances in several movies and TV shows, and she took the time out of her day to comment on the incident to People Magazine, defending Smith and saying it was “the most beautiful thing” she’s seen: 

Mark Hamill 

One of the most iconic actors of the last several decades is Mark Hamill, who's known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga, and like many others, he used his social media platform to express his thoughts on the slap on Twitter:  

Conan O’Brien

Comedians from all over were standing by Chris Rock after what happened, but one who decided to make a little bit of a joke out of the whole incident was Conan O’Brien. The former late-night talk show host, who hosted his TBS show, Conan, until 2021, simply released this statement about the Oscars slap on Twitter:

I would have loved to see O’Brien's take on it during an hour of late night.

Sophia Bush

Last but not least, Sophia Bush of the One Tree Hill cast fame, also condemned Smith’s actions on Twitter, but was also not completely on Rock’s side either, saying that both parties were in the wrong:  

While I doubt we’re going to get as big of a moment as this one at the Oscars again for some time, we truly won’t ever forget this - and I’m sure those in Hollywood won’t forget it either. 

One Tree Hill was a teen phenomenon back in the early 2000s, following the rivalry of half-brothers Nathan and Lucas Scott (James Lafferty and Chad Michael Murray, respectively) on and off the basketball court. A trio of leading ladies — Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz — were also among those who came to fame on the soapy series, but while the drama was sumptuous (if not stereotypical) for its angsty audience, it wasn’t a very healthy environment for the young women and others working on the show. 

In 2017 — five years after One Tree Hill came to an end — Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz were among 18 women from the show who signed a letter validating accusations made by former writer Audrey Wauchope against creator Mark Schwahn. The letter said they were “manipulated psychologically and emotionally,” and “put in uncomfortable positions.” When the actresses decided to start a rewatch podcast, Drama Queens in 2021, they told Variety that they were a little apprehensive about being honest about their on-set experiences, because of how beloved the series was to its fans. According to Bush (who played Brooke Davis): 

Not only did the fans not turn against the actresses for speaking their truth, but they embraced them even more. Hilarie Burton left the role of Peyton Sawyer in 2009, later crediting co-star Moira Kelly for convincing her to get out of the situation. She said in her 2020 memoir The Rural Diaries that what she went through on One Tree Hill still affects her life and the way she parents, but the podcast seems to have brought some healing. Being honest about their experiences has brought the fans even closer, Burton said: 

While Bethany Joy Lenz was nervous about watching herself back and remembering her “cringy” mistakes she made in her younger days, the Haley James Scott actress said so much healing has actually come from doing the podcast:

Certainly part of that healing is the fact the actresses have each other there for support as they relive the One Tree Hill episodes. The trio recently reunited on-screen again for Sophia Bush’s latest series, Good Sam. Bethany Joy Lenz plays Amy Taylor, a patient of Dr. Sam Griffith (Bush), and Hilarie Burton plays Amy’s sister Gretchen. Spoilers ahead for the March 23 episode of Good Sam, called "Keep Talking."

Sophia Bush returned to primetime in the 2021-2022 TV season to play an expert surgeon on CBS' Good Sam, and the freshman series just delivered a blast from the leading lady's past thanks to some appearances from Bush's One Tree Hill co-stars. Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton were guest stars in "Keep Talking," playing sisters brought to the hospital due to a mysterious ailment. Although the three actresses weren't exactly playing Brooke, Haley, and Peyton again, One Tree Hill fans were loving the medical drama reunion.

Good Sam itself had some fun with the reunion by dropping Easter eggs about One Tree Hill, and it felt fitting that Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton were playing sisters. The very first image of their reunion with Sophia Bush for the series looked like family coming back together, and they actually have worked together on the Drama Queens podcast, but this was the trio back together on TV. Fans had a lot to say about it on social media! 

On top of the show bringing the three actresses back together, there was another nod to their original show with the date of the episode. Although CBS almost certainly didn't specifically plan for the One Tree Hill reunion to air on the March 23 episode of Good Sam, OTH fans definitely caught on to the numbers and were flashing back to the basketball jersey numbers of the Scott brothers (played by Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty). The ladies didn't need the Scott brothers for their Good Sam story, though!

In "Keep Talking," Bethany Joy Lenz played Amy Taylor, a recovering alcoholic who was admitted for heart disease, but was revealed to have an underlying condition, to the surprise of her sister Gretchen. Hilarie Burton played Gretchen as the sister who definitely wasn't dealing with the same issues as her sister, so OTH fans got to see Burton playing the "good girl" and Lenz playing the "bad girl" this time around. And the prevailing opinion was excitement:

Good Sam got very direct at alluding to the bond between the actresses at one point, when Bethany Joy Lenz's Amy – intoxicated due to the underlying condition that resulted in her body brewing its own alcohol – started talking about seeing Sophia Bush's Sam before "a long time ago." (Like 2009, perhaps?) Sam obviously had no idea what Amy was talking about, but fans caught on to the reference:

As part of the same scene, Amy started talking about a time when she was passed out on Sam's lawn, and Sam sprayed her with a hose. That of course didn't happen on Good Sam, but was a callback to a memorable One Tree Hill car wash scene when Brooke sprayed Rachel (played by Danneel Harris, who is currently producing a new project at The CW with husband Jensen Ackles) with a hose. CBS even called attention to the mention, and it didn't go unnoticed!

The Good Sam episode didn't end in a way that indicated Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton's characters will return to the medical drama, so fans shouldn't count on seeing them again. Still, it was a fun episode with a reunion, and left at least one fan ready for a OTH revival:

In light of the reports of misconduct behind the scenes during the original run of One Tree Hill (and of course Sophia Bush being busy starring on Good Sam), an official revival may not be especially likely to happen. Still, the three former OTH stars host the Dramas Queens podcast that revisits every episode of the series, and can be found on Apple, Spotify, and other podcast services. You can also rewatch the full run of the series streaming with an HBO Max subscription.

Sophia Bush had plenty of experience with starring roles in hit TV shows before she landed Good Sam on CBS, and now the actress is bringing some of her past to her present in the form of her One Tree Hill BFFs. Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz are both guest-starring in an upcoming episode of television’s newest medical drama, and based on the first look, it’s safe to say that the three friends are excited to be working together in TV again.

The three actresses formed strong bonds over their years of The CW’s One Tree Hill, and went on to co-host a podcast together that is still going strong. Good Sam will bring Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Bethany Joy Lenz back together in front of the camera instead of simply behind microphones, and it looks like OTH fans have a lot to look forward to. Before getting into what Burton and Lenz's characters will bring to the new medical drama, check out all three together in costume!

Sophia Bush’s Sam may not have had tons of reasons to smile on the job on Good Sam ever since her dad (played by Jason Isaacs) started causing trouble for her, and Bethany Joy Lenz’s character is wearing a hospital gown, but the three actresses certainly look thrilled to be back together again! The One Tree Hill veterans are reuniting with Bush for guest-starring roles, so they won’t be around full time, but their episode (which just began shooting in Toronto) should be fun for fans. 

For their episode, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz will play sisters by the names of Gretchen Taylor and Amy Taylor. Amy will be admitted as a patient at Detroit’s Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital, where Bush’s Sam works – or tries to work, anyway – as chief of surgeon. It’s the same position that her egotistical dad held before being shot and left in a coma for months. Hopefully the Taylor sisters will give Sam as many reasons to smile in the episode as the arrivals of Bush’s BFFs clearly did in real life!

Sophia Bush starred in all nine seasons of One Tree Hill as Brooke Davis, as did Bethany Joy Lenz as Haley James. Hilarie Burton was on board The CW drama from the first season through the sixth as Peyton Sawyer. Although Bush wasted no time in moving on to star in NBC’s Chicago P.D. after wrapping her time as Brooke, she has been vocal about her time on OTH over the years since, for better or worse. 

Stars spoke out with allegations of abuse against One Tree Hill creator and executive producer Mark Schwahn, which hit the mainstream in late 2017 and gained steam in 2018. Hilarie Burton has since spoken out about how her experiences with Schwahn continue to affect her life. Still, the three actresses still think highly enough of their time on One Tree Hill to host the Drama Queens podcast that revisits every episode of the beloved show for fans. It should be interesting to see if Good Sam includes any nods or Easter eggs about their history together.

Why it’s worth checking out if you like Sophia Bush: Speaking of love stories, also in 2020, Sophia Bush joined the Love, Victor cast in the recurring role of Veronica - the stepmother of Rachel Naomi Hilson’s character, Mia - for a current total of seven episodes of Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger’s Hulu original series spun-off from the hit LGBTQ+ teen dramedy, Love, Simon, from 2018.

Of course, we also cannot forget about the notable TV guest roles that Sophia Bush played - such as Lizzy in the This Is Us cast, Alexandria on Netflix’s Easy, and Julie on Jane the Virgin, too - before signing on as star and producer on Good Sam, which is on the CBS 2022 TV schedule. We are looking forward to seeing what she signs on for next.

From her long-running stint in the One Tree Hill cast as Brooke Davis Baker, to her shorter, but equally beloved, tenure with the Chicago P.D. cast as Detective Erin Lindsay, and plenty of other notable roles in recent years, I think it is safe to call Sophia Bush a bonafide TV superstar at this point. However - despite how honorable that position may be, especially these days - I believe that an actress of her talent was made for the big screen.

More specifically, I believe Sophia Bush deserves a role in blockbusters like the Marvel movies and, if and when that moment were to arrive, I have a few ideas. The following are six Marvel characters the co-host of the Drama Queens podcast might be the ideal candidate to play, such as one who has a few skills in common with her most recent role.

Linda Carter

Several years after leaving the Chicago P.D. cast, Sophia Bush has returned to network television as the title character of the CBS medical drama Good Sam. Speaking of, there are plenty of well-known medical professionals from Marvel Comics (like Doctor Strange, as played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), but some that do not get as much mainstream attention, such as Linda Carter.

Not to be confused with TV’s original Wonder Woman actress (who spells her name with a “Y”), this nurse tends to specialize in caring for superheroes in need of medical attention, as first seen in Marvel’s limited series Night Nurse in the early 1970s. Fellow Night Nurse character Christine Palmer has had her time in the MCU spotlight (as played by Rachel McAdams in Doctor Strange), and Daredevil cast member Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, borrows a few elements from the comic, but Linda has not had her moment yet. Giving the role to Sophia Bush, who now has experience playing a doctor, would make up for the delay.

Victoria Montesi

Another doctor who would actually fit right into a future Doctor Strange movie is Victoria Montesi. Her pursuit of a career in medicine was partially to spite her adoptive father, Vittorio Montesi, who is the sworn protector of a black magic codex called the Darkhold by the Elder God, Chthon, whom Victoria eventually discovers to be her real father.

Outside of her acclaimed work in television, Sophia Bush has starred in a number of notable horror movies, such as the 2006 video game thriller Stay Alive, the 2007 remake of The Hitcher with Sean Bean, and the A24-produced Hulu original, False Positive, in 2021. Casting the actress in the role of this hellspawn would lead to one wicked one-two punch that sees her both join the MCU and continue her modest reputation as a scream queen in the same move.

Tigra

Speaking of one-two punches, outside of her acclaimed acting career, Sophia Bush also has some experience working as a model for the likes of MasterCard, Chevy, and various other brands. Modeling was also the early profession of Marvel character Greer Nelson, who went on to work as a lab assistant before a bizarre incident led her to take up another career title: Avenger.

The life-changing moment that led to her superheroism was a near-death experience, from which she was saved by a secret population of feline-esque people who resurrected Nelson as a half-woman, half-jungle cat who fights evil under the name Tigra. I do not know about you, but I think human-animal hybrid characters like this would be a fun thing to see more often in the MCU, and the physical alterations that would be required to get Sophia Bush into character might be a fun and unique experience for her.

Outlaw

Sophia Bush’s first experience acting on camera was in the raunchy 2002 comedy National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, as a college student named Sally who offers comfort to the titular party animal after a heartbreak with Gwen (Tara Reid). A fun way that the actress could reunite with the cult comedy’s star, Ryan Reynolds, would be to team up with him in a future Deadpool sequel as one of the anti-hero’s most underrated allies (and unlikely occasional lovers).

Inez Temple works as a mercenary under the name Outlaw - presumably to represent her Texas roots along with her signature cowgirl attire, which seems a little modest for someone in her line of work. That is, until you realize that, in addition to her expert marksmanship and combat skills, a genetic mutation equipped her with superhuman strength, durability, and an advanced healing factor that makes her a perfect match for the Merc with a Mouth (if he wasn’t so hard to get along with). If not in the eventual Deadpool 3, maybe they could reignite the scrapped X-Force spin-off movie and squeeze Sophia Bush in as Outlaw?

Urd

One of Sophia Bush’s first experiences acting for television was an episode of the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch in which the enchanted title character (Melissa Joan Hart) is visited by the goddesses of Fate. Along with Christina Vidal and Jennifer Hall as her sisters, Sophia Bush played one of the three mythological entities, who have actually been adapted for Marvel Comics, in which they are also referred to as the Norn Sisters.

With themes of destiny and the natural order of the universe (or, more accurately, the Marvel Multiverse) becoming much more prevalent in the MCU lately, it would come as no surprise to me if we see the Fates appear in a future installment, such as in a Thor sequel or Loki Season 2, even. If and when that happens, I think it would be really funny if Sophia Bush were asked to reprise her role from that Sabrina episode in its more traditional iteration. It is never really specified which Norn sister she played then, but I think a good fit would be Urd, who is gifted with knowing the history of others.

Lila Cheney

You know, if Sophia Bush were to join the MCU, it would actually not be her first experience acting in superhero movies. In 2018, she lent her voice to Incredibles 2 in the role of Voyd - an aspiring crimefighter with the power to teleport. Well, if ain’t broke…

One of the most powerful teleporters from Marvel Comics is Lila Cheney, who was actually a member of a whole team of people like her that acted as a subsidiary of S.W.O.R.D. - an off-world organization that fans became acquainted with on WandaVision that will likely play a large role on Secret Invasion. In other words, if Sophia Bush were given the opportunity to play Lila, her chance could come particularly soon and in the form of one of the most anticipated upcoming Marvel TV shows on Disney+. 

On second thought, Sophia Bush does not seem like the kind of actress who would ever want to repeat herself, which is essentially what she would be doing if cast as any of these Marvel characters. Perhaps she could find a new challenge she might be looking for in a comic book role with a part in the DC movies?

Despite 2022 not even being a week old yet, TV networks aplenty have begun rolling out winter returns and midseason premieres, giving viewers a lot of options to consider as the outside world remains pandemic-torn. One such new series is CBS’ Good Sam, which stars Chicago P.D. and One Tree Hill vet Sophia Bush alongside Star Trek Discovery and Harry Potter franchise alum Jason Isaacs. The hospital-set drama is Bush’s first broadcast network role after her highly publicized exit from the One Chicago universe back in 2017, and the star has opened up about what drew her back to the Big 4.

Having most recently served in a recurring capacity across both streaming seasons of Hulu’s dramedy Love, Victor, Sophia Bush certainly doesn’t wish to have repeat experiences of her time on NBC’s Chicago P.D. and the alleged abusive behavior she witnessed and experienced on that show. But in an interview with USA Today, the actress revealed the key reason why she decided to head up another network show after such a relatively quick turnaround. In her words: 

When it comes right down to it, it sounds like Sophia Bush is seeking out shows with showrunners and producers that she feels comfortable working with, as well as ones that can deliver attention-grabbing scripts and narratives. And it appears she landed just such a combination with Good Sam, which was created by the aforementioned Katie Wech, a former writer/producer on such series as The Republic of Sarah, Jane the Virgin, Rizzoli and Isles, and BH90210. All series with strong, largely celebrated female leads front and center. 

Fellow writer/producer Jennie Snyder Urman also worked on Jane the Virgin, as well as the original 90210 continuation series, Gilmore Girls and the Charmed reboot. Both she and Joanna Klein worked on CBS’ short-lived comedy Broke, which was Pauley Perrette’s first big TV role following her controversial exit from NCIS. So one can assume the two producers are somewhat familiar with trying to keep things as free from toxicity and misconduct behind the scenes as possible, which is surely something Sophia Bush can appreciate. 

When asked how her past experiences on Chicago P.D. and One Tree Hill — which she and other female co-stars have spoken out against in regards to alleged abuse from showrunner Mark Schwann — have affected her decision-making when it comes to taking acting roles, Bush said: 

It’s one thing to take a movie role that likely won’t require more than a few months out of one’s life to take part in, but signing on for a network TV drama is a huge commitment, especially when there are contractual stipulations specifically meant to thwart actors from bowing out early. Bush herself was said to have been told there was no way she could get out of her Chicago P.D. contract before it expired, and yet she did just that. 

Hopefully nothing even remotely similar to those alleged woes will occur on Good Sam, which is as much a relationship-driven drama between Dr. Sam Griffith and her father Dr. Rob Griffith as it is a traditional medical drama. Think of it like This Is Us (which Sophia Bush appeared on in 2020) meets The Good Doctor.

CBS has officially gotten into the medical drama game with the debut of Good Sam, starring Sophia Bush in her big series regular return to network television after her exit from Chicago P.D. in 2017. As Dr. Sam Griffith, Bush – in her first turn playing a doctor on TV – takes on a leadership role at her hospital by becoming chief of surgery… with the complication that her father (played by Jason Isaacs) formerly held that position before ending up in a coma after being shot. When he awakes and must work under his daughter, there are more problems than just medical mysteries for Sam to deal with. 

The show packed a lot into the pilot episode to establish not only Sam and dad Rob “Griff” Griffith, but also her mom and her team of doctors who are used to following Griff’s lead rather than Sam’s. CBS was the only broadcast network without a medical drama prior to Good Sam, and recruiting a TV veteran like Sophia Bush and a big name like Jason Isaacs was a strong way to start. So, how does it compare to the other, long-running medical dramas on TV? 

Well, the medical show with the most similarities to Good Sam is arguably The Good Doctor, over on ABC. That show also focuses primarily on surgeons rather than emergency medicine or any other department, and features a parent/child dynamic that is fundamental to the series. Admittedly, Shaun and Glassman on The Good Doctor aren’t technically father and son, but that family element is there. Plus, there's Shaun and Lea, unless their big fight results in a break for good. Griff seems a little less inclined to fully support Sam than Glassman is for Shaun, though! 

With Sophia Bush the forefront of the show and her character in the title that’s a play on words (“Good Sam” for “Good Samaritan”), there are clear parallels between Good Sam and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, which of course stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey. In addition to the female lead, the two shows share a focus on surgery. That said, Grey’s has been running for 18 seasons so far, so its characters have far more history than even what the pilot exposited about Sam. 

With Sam revealing early on that she had heart surgery as a child, it’s easy to make a comparison to Ryan Eggold’s Max Goodwin over on NBC, although Max’s struggles with his health happened in the first season of New Amsterdam rather than decades in the past. That said, Sam and Max have a position of authority in common (or did before Max’s latest big decision), even though the NBC show focuses on multiple different departments in one hospital rather than just surgery. 

The comparisons between Good Sam and The Resident – which is Fox’s only medical drama – are a little fewer and farther between, although there was a strong family dynamic central to The Resident up until Emily VanCamp’s departure and her character's death. Still, there are a lot of found family members on the show, and its success proves that a network doesn’t need multiple medical TV shows to enjoy a long run. 

Arguably the medical drama with the fewest similarities to Good Sam is also one of the biggest on television: NBC’s Chicago Med. The One Chicago series mostly centers the medical action on the emergency department, although surgery and psych are also important to the storytelling. Med is more of an ensemble show, compared to Good Sam with Sophia Bush as the clear lead. It’s also a spinoff, which fundamentally sets it apart from the other shows in the genre. 

So, does Good Sam have what it takes to become the next medical TV show hit and follow in the footsteps of those that are already successful? Only time will tell on that front, but Sophia Bush has proven herself as a strong TV actor thanks to One Tree Hill and then Chicago P.D. In an interesting twist, Good Sam is actually airing up against Chicago P.D. over on NBC on Wednesdays, filling the slot previously held by CSI: Vegas. Sophia Bush was a mainstay on television for years before stepping away from leading series regular roles, but now the actress is returning to network primetime thanks to CBS’ upcoming Good Sam. The medical drama partners the One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. alum with Harry Potter franchise veteran Jason Isaacs to play an unconventional daughter/father duo in the halls of a hospital. Despite working in television for nearly two decades, this is Bush’s first role playing a doctor, and she shared why the role feels “full circle” for her.

The leading lady as well as the rest of the cast of Good Sam spoke with reporters at CBS’ Winter TCA presentation ahead of the show’s premiere on January 5. Bush shared what it has been like playing a doctor and tackling new challenges as Dr. Sam Griffith: 

Her big break in a main role may have been playing One Tree Hill’s Brooke Davis, and she may have spent years as a detective in One Chicago, but starring in Good Sam has brought her full circle from wanting to be a doctor as a kid. Sure, playing a doctor on television isn’t the same as what she was evidently planning before her drama teacher put her on the path to performance, but she found a roundabout way to get there! And there’s no denying that she has been successful as an actress.

In fact, she did return to television over the years since leaving Chicago P.D. in 2017, with guest appearances on shows like This Is Us and Jane the Virgin, with Good Sam actually reuniting Bush with Jane the Virgin executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman. Bush also took on a recurring role in Hulu's Love, Victor, but Good Sam marks her branching out into a new genre as the leading lady. The actress elaborated on what it has been like to join a medical drama to play a doctor after all these years:

There is no shortage of medical dramas already on television; in fact, each of the other three major networks already have at least one show in the genre on the air, and Good Sam will put CBS on the map. The network is already dominant when it comes to crime dramas, so it should be intriguing to see how its new medical series performs in the ratings. Interestingly, CBS has given Good Sam a competitive time slot: Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET, which will put it up against Bush’s former show on NBC. 

CSI: Vegas was never able to beat Chicago P.D. in the ratings when they aired new episodes head-to-head; could Good Sam pull it off? And will it establish CBS as a place to be for medical drama action, when the other networks are already several seasons into their own medical dramas? Only time will tell how viewers will respond to Sophia Bush’s return to television in a leading role to play a doctor for the first time, but the wait isn’t too much longer. While One Tree Hill may have been the story of half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott playing basketball in their small North Carolina town, the women of Tree Hill were just as important to the teen drama’s longevity as anything to do with the Scott brothers. It turns out the off-screen support the women gave each other throughout what has since been described as an abusive working environment was vital. Hilarie Burton recently reconnected with One Tree Hill matriarch Moira Kelly, who played Lucas’ mom Karen, and revealed just how much Kelly changed her life by giving her “permission” to leave the show.

On the podcast Drama Queens, former One Tree Hill stars Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz spoke with Moira Kelly about their time on set together, with the trio revealing that they were so intimidated by the seasoned actress because they respected her so much. While the drama wrapped its nine-season run in 2012, Burton left the show in 2009, later alleging she’d endured years of abuse at the hands of showrunner Mark Schwahn. Burton became emotional on the podcast as she told her former co-star, whom she had not seen since their time on the show, that Kelly's advice and support saved her life. 

In 2017, former One Tree Hill writer Audrey Wauchope tweeted that she and her writing partner at the time had been sexually harassed when they worked on the show in Season 7. That prompted Hilarie Burton and 17 other women — including Sophia Bush — to speak out, accusing Mark Schwahn of sexual harassment and more. Burton offered more insight into the allegations in her book, The Rural Diaries, which also discussed how she’s still affected by what she endured.

On the podcast, Moira Kelly expressed her regret about not being more aware of what was happening with her younger co-stars, saying if she’d been more present, she surely would have done something. But the Drama Queens co-hosts insisted that she did help — that the example she set for them, and the way Kelly prioritized her family over work, taught them so much. Hilarie Burton said she’d been wanting to thank Kelly since she was 26 years old. 

Seems like a good time to note that Hilarie Burton and her son have both appeared on The Walking Dead, which stars the respective husband and father Jeffrey Dean Morgan. So the AMC dramas fans also have Moira Kelly to thank for the roles of Lucille and...hungry zombie kid.

If the original One Tree Hill cast didn't wanna be anything other than what they had been trying to be while on the show, it does not seem to have worked out that way. Stars such as Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush have gone onto act in movies and TV shows that have proved to be a vast departure from the long-running coming-of-age drama since its final curtain in 2012 on The CW (after first debuting nine years earlier when it was still called The WB). The following is a look at the successes that this cast has achieved since departing from this successful series, starting with one of its greatest success stories.

Chad Michael Murray (Lucas Scott)

Recurring roles on the Gilmore Girls cast and Dawson’s Creek cast led Chad Michael Murray to score the lead on The WB’s next hit One Tree Hill as his film career was taking off with the 2003 Freaky Friday remake, the Hilary Duff-led A Cinderella Story in 2004, and another film based on pre-existing work of fiction: House of Wax in 2005. Since leaving One Tree Hill after Season 6, the former model most notably played a cop in Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station, a spy on Agent Carter (one of ABC’s pre-Disney+ Marvel TV shows), and returned to The CW with a recurring role on the Riverdale cast in 2019. Murray will next star in the movie Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman as the titular serial killer and is currently working on his second, third, and fourth action movie co-starring Bruce Willis.

James Lafferty (Nathan Scott)

Like Chad Michael Murray, his onscreen half-brother from the One Tree Hill cast, James Lafferty also has a bit of a Scream King reputation after starring in the 2009 Donnie Darko sequel S. Darko, appearing in Mike Flanagan’s terrifying mainstream debut Oculus, and the filmmaker’s acclaimed Netflix miniseries The Haunting of Hill House in 2018. Between those thrillers, the actor, writer, producer, and director (who even helmed a few One Tree Hill episodes) took roles on short-lived series like Crisis on NBC and Underground on WGN and acted in films that range from comedies like Waffle Street to dramas like Small Town Crime. In addition to playing Scott Carpenter on Disney+’s The Right Stuff in 2020, Lafferty would later team-up with fellow One Tree Hill alum Stephen Colletti to create and star on Everyone is Doing Great: a comedy series loosely based on their own lives since leaving The CW hit.

Sophia Bush (Brooke Davis Baker)

Positively doing great since seeing One Tree Hill to its end is Sophia Bush, who is best known these days for playing Detective Erin Lindsay on Chicago P.D. and the hit NBC series’ other spin-off procedural dramas taking place in the Windy City until 2017. The following year, she would also play a cop in Bruce Willis movie (Acts of Violence) and lent her voice to the Pixar sequel Incredibles 2 as an aspiring superhero named Voyd. In addition to small guest spots on otherwise huge hit series like Jane the Virgin or This Is Us, Bush has a recurring part on the Love, Victor cast, starred in the A24-produced horror movie False Positive (another Hulu original) in 2021, and was cast in the title role of the upcoming medical drama Good Sam, which will be on the 2021 Fall TV Schedule on CBS.

Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott)

The daytime soap opera Guiding Light was Bethany Joy Lenz’s big break before she was cast on the primetime soap opera One Tree Hill as Nathan’s eventual wife, Haley. Her next big TV role was a recurring spot on Dexter Season 8 before appearing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a Hydra devotee in 2016, Thora Birch’s replacement on the USA sci-fi drama Colony the following year, and becoming a series regular on the short-lived Suits spin-off Pearson in 2019. While Hallmark movies seem to be Lenz’s main claim to fame lately, she also has a horror movie called So Cold the River in the works.

Paul Johansson (Dan Scott)

As the biological father of both Lucas and Nathan Scott on One Tree Hill we have Paul Johansson, who also broke out on a daytime soap (Santa Barbera) before starring in a film that makes fun of them (Soapdish) and then appearing in a recurring role on Beverly Hills, 90210 (the precursor to another CW hit) in the early 1990s. Following the death of his character in One Tree Hill’s final season, Johansson would go on to join the Mad Men cast for three episodes, appear in the 2016 coming-of-age period drama Dear Eleanor, and play a bloodsucking antagonist from SyFy’s modern-day take on the legend of Van Helsing during its first two seasons. The actor is currently filming the crime drama God is a Bullet from The Notebook helmer Nick Cassavetes, who also directed Johansson in John Q opposite Denzel Washington in 2002.

Hilarie Burton (Peyton Sawyer)

Like a few of her co-stars, Hilarie Burton previously starred on Dawson’s Creek, which also saw her debut before becoming a series regular on One Tree Hill and later the White Collar cast following her 2009 exit. In addition to recurring spots on series like the Halle Berry-led sci-fi drama Extant or her guest appearance on The Walking Dead as Lucille (the late wife of her real-life husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Burton also shares common appearances in Hallmark movie roles with some of her One Tree Hill castmates. Plus, she, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz recently go together create a podcast called Drama Queens, on which they recall their time together on the series.

Lee Norris (Mouth McFadden)

Starting off as a recurring character on the One Tree Hill cast before being promoted to series regular in Season 3 is Lee Norris, who had previously experienced the reverse (well, just barely) on the Boy Meets World cast as Stuart Minkus, a role he would reprise on Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World years later. In between then, the actor appeared in two David Fincher movies (namely Zodiac in 2007 and 2014’s Gone Girl) and had a recurring role on AMC’s The Walking Dead in 2017 before Hilarie Burton made her first guest appearance. Speaking of Hilarie Burton, she and Norris starred in the Lifetime original holiday movie A Christmas Wish (along with fellow One Tree Hill alum Tyler Hilton) a year before Norris shared the screen with Tom Hanks in the Apple TV+ exclusive Greyhound in 2020.

Moira Kelly (Karen Roe)

Another recent One Tree Hill castmember turned Lifetime movie star is Moira Kelly, who first rose to stardom as the female lead of the romantic sports movie The Cutting Edge in 1992. That same year, she replaced Lara Flynn Boyle in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (a prequel to David Lynch’s groundbreaking series) and played Charlie Chaplin’s wife in a biopic starring starring Robert Downey Jr. as the silent film legend before voicing Nala in the original animated Lion King in 1994. Kelly recently landed a recurring role on Fox’s hit medical drama The Resident and also stars in the Amazon Prime original series Panic, inspired by the thrilling young adult novel.

Barbara Alyn Woods (Deb Scott)

Another One Tree Hill alum who starred in the aforementioned 2019 Lifetime movie A Christmas Wish is Barbara Alyn Woods, who has appeared in everything from a guest spot on the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast to the Demi Moore-led movie Striptease to the series adaptation of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids as Diane Szalinski. Her other major roles following her One Tree Hill exit in 2012 include two episodes of the hit ABC comedy The Goldbergs, the 2019 Netflix original movie Walk. Ride. Rodeo., and the SyFy original horror-comedy (Future) Cult Classic from that same year. Speaking of horror-comedies on SyFy, Barbara Alyn Woods will also appear on Chucky, an upcoming series that continues the legacy of the classic slasher Child’s Play form 1988.

Craig Sheffer (Keith Scott)

Craig Sheffer has also done a Lifetime movie and Hallmark movie in his day, in addition to the highly eclectic career he has led before and after playing Keith Scott on One Tree Hill. Some of his best known early roles include the 1987 John Hughes-penned classic Some Kind of Wonderful, Clive Barker’s cult favorite horror flick Nightbreed from 1990, and A River Runs Through It, a Robert Redford directed period piece in which he played Brad Pitt’s onscreen brother. Outside of his smaller role in the Apple TV+ exclusive drama Palmer, Sheffer has continued his reputation as B-movie royalty in the movies like the upcoming thriller Sarah, which will reunite him with his Fire with Fire co-star Virginia Madsen.

Antwon Tanner (Skills Taylor)

Not only does Antwon Tanner have a few recent holiday Lifetime movies on his resume, but he also appeared in A Christmas Wish with his former One Tree Hill castmates in 2019. Some of his most notable work outside of becoming a series regular on the hit series include a recurring role on the Brandy-led sitcom Moesha, The Wood starring Taye Diggs, and Coach Carter, a fact-based sports drama starring Samuel L. Jackson from 2005. Tanner’s most notable work after One Tree Hill includes the Adult Swim original series Black Jesus, BET’s series sequel to the Eddie Murphy favorite Boomerang, and the upcoming music drama Packz, which is filming now.

Well, with the exception of a podcast about their experiences on the show, a TV shows about the experiences after leaving the show, and one Lifetime movie in common, it appears to me that the One Tree Hill cast has indeed managed to be nearly anything other than what they had been trying to be during the drama’s 2003-2012 run.

If there's one thing that's abundantly clear from looking at the (usually) very public lives of celebrities, it's that being famous is sometimes not so great. With the public adoration also comes intense public scrutiny, and frequently about things in their lives that are really no one's business. Former Chicago P.D. and One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush has been on our TV (and movie) screens for nearly 20 years, and in that time she's learned a lot about trying to keep her life to herself, and she recently opened up about why she keeps her personal life private.

Sophia Bush has several fan-favorite roles under her belt now, with One Tree Hill's Brooke Davis and Erin Lindsay of the Chicago P.D. cast being among her most beloved parts on television. But, it would seem that she's had more than her fair share of rude awakenings when it comes to how the personal lives of famous folk are often dissected in the media, especially if those celebs happen to be female. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight about her upcoming film, False Positive, she was asked if it's intentional that she talks about issues which are important to her while keeping mum about her private life, and Bush said:

While there are certainly a lot of well-known people who dive right in to being a very public person and seem to thrive on everyone knowing their every move, like, and dislike, there are still many who truly try to keep as much of their personal lives to themselves as possible, preferring to only talk about work. As Sophia Bush noted, it's difficult to look up one day and realize that no area of your life is just for you and your nearest and dearest. Mostly, this is because the public and/or press don't simply take in the information we receive, but also "pick over everything," leading to misconceptions, and lots of outright lies.

As Bush also said, she became famous during the early aughts, a time when women were especially prone to receiving the worst of the press / gossip due to their personal choices, and no decision ever seemed to be good enough. While we've all become more aware of this in recent months (largely thanks to the Framing Britney Spears documentary), it's not something that's been completely eradicated, and certainly won't change quickly.

Sophia Bush also explained that she simply grew tired of the narrative she found herself forced into when it came to her private life, and added:

Not hiding, but also not flaunting, your personal life can be a tough line to walk for someone in the public eye, but I'd say that Sophia Bush has managed it pretty well. There will probably always be a number of celebrities who want to put their lives all out there for everyone to dig into, so when we get the famous people who'd rather not deal in that, we should all just back away and let them live their lives in peace.

The WB/CW drama One Tree Hill came to an end nearly a decade ago and, with three of its stars -- Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton Morgan and Bethany Joy Lenz -- coming together to do a podcast to reflect on their time on the hit series, it raises a question of whether or not a return to Tree Hill, North Carolina is possible. Bush may never return to NBC’s Chicago P.D. following her exit and, now, she's speaking on the chances of her joining an OTH revival.

Sophia Bush exited the NBC procedural four years ago, revealing that she “wanted to” and that she prioritized her personal health over the series. Meanwhile, the actress has kept close to her One Tree Hill family and fans, even attending conventions. Now that she’s doing a new podcast with her on-screen besties, Bush has opened up to Entertainment Tonight about a One Tree Hill revival:

While Sophia Bush didn’t exactly give a straight answer, it seems a One Tree Hill revival or reunion of some sorts is possible. Considering the series came to an end in 2012, now would be the perfect time. Some of the cast did have a reunion when they starred in the Lifetime Christmas movie, The Christmas Contract together. Although it was nice to see them together, it only made fans yearn for an actual reunion or revival in the future.

Most would probably agree that there's definitely a market for modern continuations of TV series. There have been plenty of revivals and reboots lately, such as the new iCarly show on Paramount+, and not to mention the upcoming Gossip Girl series on HBO Max.

If there were to be an OTH revival, it would need to have the original cast and not a new group of friends. But what would a new series look like and where would the characters be after all this time? Believe it or not, while promoting The Christmas Contract, Hilarie Burton Morgan threw out a fun idea for a One Tree Hill revival: A Christmas movie! It would give the characters an in-show reason to be reuniting, so that could work.

Since Sophia Bush is occupied with her new CBS medical drama, Good Sam, and much of the cast is also working on other projects, it’s likely that should a One Tree Hill revival does happen, it won't see the light of day for a while. One also has to consider how much work would need to be done for it to happen. But one can still dream!

Four years after exiting Chicago P.D., Sophia Bush is returning to television! The actress has landed a starring role in a brand new series, alongside beloved Harry Potter star, Jason Isaacs. And fans of medical dramas are sure to love the premise of the new show.

CBS has picked up the One Tree Hill alum’s medical drama, Good Sam, for the 2021-22 broadcast season, according to Deadline. Sophia Bush will star as talented, but stifled, surgeon Sam Griffith, who embraces her leadership role after her boss falls into a coma. However, when he awakens and wants to resume surgery, it falls to her to supervise the person who never acknowledged her talents -- and who also just happens to be her father.

Besides Sophia Bush and former Lucius Malfoy actor Jason Isaacs, Good Sam stars Edwin Hodge (The Purge), Skye P. Marshall (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield), Davi Santos (Power Rangers Dino Charge), Omar Maskati (Unbelievable) and Wendy Crewson (Air Force One). So it would seem that the Bush and Isaacs will be surrounded by a pretty varied and capable cast.

Good Sam will mark Sophia Bush’s first main role since Chicago P.D., in which she (in her first lead role) starred as Erin Lindsay from 2014-17. However, most likely also know her as the fashionable and sassy Brooke Davis from the WB/CW drama One Tree Hill, a role she played for the drama’s nine-season run. It’s also interesting to point out that in 2019, Bush was set to portray Maddy Yardley in Surveillance, an unsold CBS pilot on which she was also a producer. Now, it seems like she will finally get her chance on the network.

Good Sam was one of two new CBS pickups, the other being Smallwood, starring Crashing’s Pete Holmes. The series is based on the life of professional bowler Tom Smallwood and also stars Chi McBride (Gone in 60 Seconds) and Katie Lowes (Zootopia). Both series are expected to debut on the fall schedule, which will be announced at the CBS Upfronts this Wednesday.

In addition to adding Sophia Bush and Jason Isaacs' new show, CBS is making a number of other moves ahead of the upcoming TV season. Military drama SEAL Team and freshman series Clarice are possibly looking to be moved to streaming service, Paramount+. Though it hasn’t be confirmed by the network, which has yet to officially renew both series, it’s likely they will be looking at a new home for the upcoming season. The network also passed on three other potential pilots, including Patrick Dempsey’s political drama Ways & Means, a Sarah Cooper and Cindy Chupack single-camera comedy and Welcome To Georgia, starring Hannah Simone and Elizabeth Hurley.

It’s not confirmed when Good Sam will be making its CBS debut but, with the network’s Upfronts presentation happening later this week, CBS will likely announce its fall schedule then. In a time when shared universes are all the rage with the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, NBC followed suit with a slew of interconnected procedural dramas collectively known as One Chicago. Chicago Fire and its spin-offs, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, all of which premiered within three years of each other, feature interweaving cast members and storylines all existing in the same titular Midwestern metropolis and have even crossed over with other series produced by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf.

The elder series in this shared “trilogy,” Chicago Fire, which debuted in 2012, and Chicago P.D., which premiered two years later, have followed two groups of professionals in their personal lives and with their lives on the line for eight years and six years, respectively. Given the severity of their professions, survival cannot be guaranteed for everyone, which has been made clear with some central characters’ succumbing to dire circumstances. Of course, some left just to explore other career aspirations, which is also the case for several of the actors involved.

It seems like now is as good a time as ever to commemorate the veterans of these enduringly popular series about fighting fires and fighting crime. The following is what five former series regulars from Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., each, have been up to since their final episodes.

Monica Raymund (Gabriela Dawson) - Chicago Fire

After her first starring role as human lie detector Ria Torres on the short-lived Lie to Me and landing a recurring spot on hit CBS political drama The Good Wife, Monica Raymund became a founding cast member of Chicago Fire as Gabriela Dawson. The temperamental ambulance paramedic turned firefighter had her association with Truck 81 end in 2018 when she left to provide medical attention to those in need in Puerto Rico. Following her exit, Raymund also went through a relocation of her own to Hightown, the STARZ series from producer Jerry Bruckheimer in which she currently plays a National Marine Fisheries Service agent struggling with her own sobriety as she becomes involved with a disturbing murder investigation in Cape Cod.

Yuri Sardarov (Brian Zvonecek) - Chicago Fire

Nicknamed "Otis" after a certain brand of elevators for his specialization in rescuing victims from said contraption, Brian Zvonecek, played by Yuri Sardarov, was a co-owner of the bar Molly's with a few of his colleagues from Truck 81 who also liked to share his experiences as a firefighter on his own podcast. The Season 8 premiere of Chicago Fire would be Sardarov's final episode as a series regular, with Otis succumbing to injuries from a mattress factory explosion. The Eurasian born actor will next be seen in the 2020 release of Adam, his first feature film to be released since 2012's Argo, despite being filmed in 2011, in which Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul plays real-life quadriplegic Adam Niskar.

Lauren German (Leslie Shay) - Chicago Fire

Years before the heartbreaking loss of Otis, one of the first bouts of personal tragedy the characters of Chicago Fire would face was the murder of paramedic Leslie Shay, played by Lauren German for the first two seasons. The actress had experience with location-specific TV series, from recurring roles on TNT original Memphis Beat and CBS's long-running modern day reboot of Hawaii Five-0, prior to playing the Ambulance 61 first responder. German has since continued her status as a procedural drama vet and low-key horror scream queen (particularly from 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and Hostel: Part II in 2007) by starring as Detective Chloe Decker on a show that combines both genres: Lucifer.

Charlie Barnett (Peter Mills) - Chicago Fire

Before he discovered the true nature of her sexuality, Leslie Shay briefly caught the eye of Peter Mills, a Squad 3 firefighter played by Charlie Barnett. Ironically, the actor, who left the show when Peter moved to North Carolina to open a restaurant with his family, is gay in real life, which he has expressed artistically in pre-Chicago Fire roles, such as the movies Private Romeo and Gayby, and since his exit, like on Netflix's series revivals of Tales of the City and You. Barnett, who also starred on Netflix's Russian Doll and as John Diggle's son on Arrow, will star opposite Drew Barrymore and Ellie Kemper in the comedy The Stand-In and will return to NBC in Matt Reeves' upcoming drama series Ordinary Joe.

Dora Madison Burge (Jessica Chilton) - Chicago Fire

Serving as Peter Mills' replacement on Ambulance 61 was Jessica Chilton, also known as "Chili" and played by Dora Madison Burge, but only for a short time, as the death of her twin sister, Alyssa, sent her into a grief-stricken spiral that cost her the job after 17 episodes. Chicago Fire is actually one of several hit series on which Burge has appeared in a short-lived recurring role, with others most notably being Friday Night Lights and Dexter. Since leaving the show, the actress has re-emerged as a rising scream queen in leading the disturbing 2019 psychological indie Bliss, playing a central character of Into the Dark's Mother's Day special, and appearing in two upcoming technophobic sci-fi thrillers: the feature-length 2020 SWSX submission Lapsis and the 10-minute short Into that Goodnight.

Sophia Bush (Erin Lindsay) - Chicago P.D.

After playing Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill from 2003 to 2012, Sophia Bush debuted as Detective Erin Lindsay on Chicago Fire the following year before becoming a series regular on the police-based spin-off. When Lindsay left CPD for an FBI position at the end of Season 4, Bush followed by taking several small roles in notable films and TV shows, including voicing a superhero in Incredibles 2 and playing a love interest for Kevin (Justin Hartley) in one episode of This Is Us. The actress will appear in Love, Victor, Hulu's series spin-off from Love, Simon, the indie music drama Hard Luck Love Song, and alongside Pierce Brosnan and Ilana Glazer in False Positive, which is being described as a modern Rosemary's Baby.

Jon Seda (Antonio Dawson) - Chicago P.D.

Another Chicago P.D. main character who first appeared on Chicago Fire is Antonio Dawson, played by Jon Seda. He actually stepped away briefly to star in the failed Chicago Justice, but then exited the franchise completely when the detective left the police department, supposedly, to aid his sister, Gabriela, in Puerto Rico. Antonio is actually the second of Seda's characters that also exist in the Law & Order universe, after Paul Falsone on Homicide: Life on the Streets, which had also crossed over with L&O, just as P.D. has. The former aspiring boxer is set to return to NBC for La Brea, a survivalist drama about a mysterious LA sinkhole.

Elias Koteas (Alvin Olinksy) - Chicago P.D.

Before playing CPD undercover operative Alvin Olinsky, Elias Koteas starred as more than a few characters with a badge, such as with his role in Collateral Damage, or as a man known simply as The Policeman in 2010’s Let Me In. However, the Canadian character actor is best known for classics like Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line, high school drama Some Kind of Wonderful from writer John Hughes, and the 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, in which he played Casey Jones. Since his 2018 exit from Chicago P.D. after Alvin’s murder, Koteas has been filming the Syfy original movie Cipher, which will see him taking on an evil A.I. He is also joining the cast of Billy Bob Thornton’s Amazon series Goliath.

Anne Heche (Katherine Brennan) - Chicago P.D.

The death of Alivin Olinsky is actually what sparks the first appearance of Department Superintendent Katherine Brennan, a recurring character on Chicago P.D. played by Anne Heche. The Emmy-nominee has led a very eclectic career spanning three decades, from the daytime soap opera Another World, to Gus Van Sant’s infamous shot-for-shot Psycho remake, and the short-lived NBC military procedural The Brave in 2017. Heche will continue to show her various tastes with a slew of upcoming feature films that range from light family drama like Wildfire, to a tornado disaster flick called Thirteen Minutes, and the post-apocalyptic survivalist thriller Salvage, which is one of two films categorized as horror the actress has on the horizon.

Josh Segarra (Justin Voight) - Chicago P.D.

Another Chicago P.D. actor who has also led a career of impressive variety is Josh Segarra. His role on the series as Sgt. Hank Voight's (Jason Beghe) former inmate son, Justin, turned out to be shockingly brief, as it ended with the character's tragic murder. Segarra's character on daytime children's program The Electric Company, which lasted from 2009 to 2011, did not suffer the same fate. But, his antagonistic Arrow character Adrian Chase (also known as Prometheus) did, and this time it was self-inflicted. The actor, who has also lent his voice to video games such as Red Dead Redemption, most recently made a recurring guest appearance on another CW series Katy Keane, and is currently working on the comedy film First One In and a TV adaptation of the 2018 Kevin Hart movie Night School.

Chicago P.D. spent "Lines" continuing Upton's descent into becoming a cop like Voight who doesn't hesitate to cross lines, but she didn't altogether get away with it this time, and the end result is a twist that could ultimately provide an update on Erin Lindsay. The character left the series at the end of Season 4 when Sophia Bush decided to depart, and she's very unlikely to return to P.D. The show's Upton twist could deliver that update on Lindsay without requiring Sophia Bush.

In "Lines," Voight got a call from the FBI Field Office in New York City to request a loan-out officer from the Intelligence Unit. After Upton planted drugs on a criminal to get him caught and get Rojas out of a bind, Voight decided that she would be the one to go since he didn't want her to turn into him. Here's how he put it:

As longtime Chicago P.D. fans undoubtedly remember, Erin Lindsay left Chicago at the end of Season 4 to take a job with the FBI's counter-terrorism unit in New York. Even if Upton isn't temporarily working with the FBI on counter-terrorism, it would stand to reason that the two would cross paths, even if socially. They were briefly partnered at the end of Season 4, after all, and Upton became Halstead's partner after Lindsay left.

Assuming that most if not all of Upton's arc takes place off-screen while the action of Chicago P.D. stays in Chicago, P.D. could deliver an update on Lindsay via Upton. Sophia Bush wouldn't need to reprise the role (which isn't likely to ever happen despite her recent return to NBC) for Lindsay's old friends (and former flame) in Intelligence to find out what she's up to.

If that's the case, I just hope that the past few years have helped Halstead get to a place where he wouldn't be upset to be reminded about the move that split him up from Lindsay.

I'm actually really interested to see how Halstead handles Upton being sent to New York to work with the FBI, pretty abruptly. Voight told Upton that her flight was leaving the next day, and he told her to have a safe trip, which makes it sound like he wasn't exactly expecting her back in the office before heading off for her assignment.

If Upton didn't give Halstead a call and he finds out from somebody else that his second partner for whom he seemingly has romantic feelings left for a NYC FBI posting, he might not react well. Losing Lindsay was certainly rough on Halstead in Season 5!

At least Upton's assignment will be temporary! Could Upton following in Lindsay's footsteps for a few weeks by working with the FBI in New York result in some Upstead development? Absence does make the heart grow fonder, after all, and it would be nice if Upton doesn't have to get shot for Halstead to have a wake-up call, like what happened for Upton in the fall finale and winter premiere this season.

Find out if Chicago P.D. delivers an update on Erin Lindsay without Sophia Bush and/or delivers some developments on the Upstead front with Upton heading to the FBI in New York with new episodes on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC following new episodes of Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. ET and Chicago Med at 8 p.m. ET.

Sophia Bush surprised lots of fans when she decided to leave her starring role as no-nonsense detective Erin Lindsay on Chicago P.D. behind after four seasons with the hit cop drama. Now, though, she's moving on and fans of hers could soon see Bush on a new medical drama at CBS, title Good Sam.

According to Deadline, Sophia Bush has signed on for the starring role in Good Sam as the title character. Sam is a talented heart surgeon whose career has been suppressed by her "renowned and pompous boss" who has always failed to give Sam her due by recognizing her talents. When her boss suddenly has medical problems of his own, though, and falls into a coma, it allows Sam to come into her own, personally and professionally, when she steps up and fills his position as chief of surgery.

Things soon get more difficult for Sam when her domineering boss, Griff, wakes from his coma and wants to begin working again, even if it means working under his former second in command, whom he'd always slighted. And, just to add another nice twist to this whole enterprise, Griff isn't just any old unnecessarily tough boss, he's also Sam's "overbearing blowhard" of a father. Yikes.

Good Sam comes from Katie Wech (Star, BH90210) and Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin, Charmed), and the two worked together on the last season of Jane the Virgin, so it would seem that they had good reason to keep their working relationship going with this family medical drama. Wech is also writing the pilot for Good Sam, and will executive produce along with Urman and Joanna Klein.

This will be Sophia Bush's second drama pilot in a row a CBS, with last year's Surveillance coming close to a series order. The actress has hardly remained out of the spotlight since her time on Chicago P.D. ended, though. She has a recurring role on the upcoming Hulu romantic comedy, Love, Victor (which is scheduled to premiere sometime in June), had a voice role in The Incredibles 2, and was recently seen on This Is Us, in a part which could recur. And, it turns out that her time on NBC's hit family drama came because of her work on Love, Victor, so Bush is really on a winning streak right now.

While Sophia Bush previously shared that there were a lot of things that she enjoyed about working on Chicago P.D., there were also many aspects she wasn't happy about, and once she began to open up about why she left the show in the middle of her seven-year contract, that was made even more apparent. Bush said that she told her bosses that things would need to change in order for her to stay on the show at the table read for the Season 4 premiere, so she gave them plenty of notice about just how unhappy she'd become.

Obviously, working conditions didn't change to her satisfaction, so Sophia Bush made good on her word to leave the complicated situation behind, and after threatening to take legal action she was released from her contract.

Luckily, all that strife is behind Sophia Bush now, and fans might get to see her in a regular, starring role on Good Sam. Right now, the show is still in the very early stages, so there's no word on whether or not it will get a series order, when it would air or how many episodes we'd get to see. Sophia Bush was the latest of the rotating list of high-profile guest stars This Is Us has nabbed, and many were excited to see the former One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. actress cut it up with Justin Hartley's Kevin right up until she broke his heart. That aside, some may be wondering how Bush ended up on the NBC drama to begin with, and now we have an answer.

Executive producer Isaac Aptaker said that Sophia Bush got involved with This Is Us primarily because of another project she was working on with them:

Who would say no to a private performance with John Legend at the Hollywood Bowl? Few people would, even if it wasn't actually a full concert like Kevin arranged for "Lizzy" before she broke his heart and revealed she had a husband. It was there that Kevin learned that a "hall pass" is more than an urban legend, and that some people do actually attempt to cash in on them even when it can put a committed relationship at risk.

Isaac Aptaker described Sophia Bush's role to EW as a "little part," which makes sense considering her Chicago-based character more or less broke Kevin's spirit in the worst way. It didn't seem like she was going to up and leave her marriage to pursue a "fairy tale" romance he's in search of. Plus, Kevin's phone ended up getting a call from ex-wife Sophie not long after Lizzy was out of the picture, so perhaps he'll have forgotten all about her by the time this season is up?

It could go either way, as there appears to be a connection between the arc of Kevin and young Jack and Rebecca this season. Kevin is searching for a romance as perfect as his parents had, but viewers are learning the fantasy Kevin has of Jack and Rebecca's perfect relationship was a lie. There were plenty of speed bumps on the way to them becoming the loving couple viewers now know and love, so maybe there's hope for Kevin and Lizzy yet!

This Is Us is always one for surprises, so much so that it has become the show's tagline for Season 4. It certainly came as a surprise when news recently broke that the NBC show had nabbed Sophia Bush for a role, despite the circumstances of her departure from NBC's Chicago P.D. as Detective Erin Lindsay. Bush's role doesn't come across as one that will bring her back to This Is Us as a game-changer, but the show did seemingly throw in a shoutout to her former series.

In the episode Kevin met Sophia Bush's Lizzy, a woman he believed could kick off the fairy tale romance he's been searching for. The connection between the two was evident, though the roadblocks slowly but surely started hinting this romance wasn't meant to be. It turns out she was not a Los Angeles native, and in about the most obvious nod to Sophia Bush's past on NBC, Lizzy was "a Chicago girl." Twitter was quick to jump on the nod, in case it went over anyone's head.

The nod could've been coincidental, but given that This Is Us also spiked in a few references to World Of Dance in "Lights and Shadows," I'm inclined to think it was intentional. Chicago P.D. fans loved the reference regardless, and continued to clue in others on Twitter who may not be about that #OneChicago life.

Some fans were happy enough to hear Chicago mentioned, though others jumped to some wild conclusions. A few people on the social media platform jokingly suggested that this could mean that Chicago P.D. and This Is Us share a universe, which is quite a thought.

Remember, Lindsay left Chicago P.D.'s Intelligence Unit for a job with the FBI Narcotics unit in New York. Imagine if This Is Us actually had Lindsay pose as "Lizzy" as part of some undercover investigation with the Narcotics unit! Claiming she was a "Chicago girl" would be the perfect lie to Kevin. Just because she moved to New York doesn't mean she's not still a Chicago girl, right? Imagine if this was actually what This Is Us was setting up!

Of course, This Is Us seemingly only wanted to set up Kevin Pearson for further heartbreak. Lizzy wasn't who she claimed to be, but actually a married woman and not available. She had pursued Kevin because she was her "hall pass" and the mother that was a super fan pestering her all day was actually her husband. It was pretty bad, but definitely worse because she waited until after Kevin rented out the Hollywood Bowl and hired music legend John Legend for a private concert to reveal that.

It felt like Sophia Bush's stint was a one and done deal, especially after how Lizzy did Kevin. Then again, Sophie keeps coming back into the picture, and the announcement reporting Bush's role was recurring means there's hope for Chicago P.D. fans that Bush will get another episode or two on This Is Us. Meanwhile the hunt for Kevin's future beau continues, and it feels like the show is not any closer to revealing who he'll end up with.

Sophia Bush will reportedly recur throughout the second half of Season 4. Although This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman didn't drop details about the character Sophia Bush is playing in This Is Us, The Wrap reports a tease he shared about her role:

Well, those may not be details about Sophia Bush's role in This Is Us Season 4, but "big secret part" is surely enough to get her fans pumped about whatever she'll bring to the series! The combination of a secret part and Justin Hartley's arc as Kevin naturally calls for speculation that Bush could be playing the mystery mother of Kevin's child.

Jennifer Morrison's casting ahead of Season 4 and the subsequent Kevin/Cassidy connection seemingly made her a pretty strong candidate as the future mom, but perhaps Sophia Bush's character will be the one after all! This Is Us has a knack for delivering twists in the resolution of its mysteries, and bringing in somebody new after viewers spent half a season guessing if and how Morrison could be playing the mother of Kevin's child could fit the This Is Us bill.

So, does Sophia Bush's return to NBC for This Is Us mean she's opened the door to return to Chicago P.D. for a guest shot? Personally, I'm guessing very much not. Her connection to This Is Us is likely due to her work with executive producers and co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger for their Disney+ series Love, Simon, on which Bush has a recurring role.

Sophia Bush has opened up about why she left Chicago P.D., including that her "body was like falling apart" because she "was really, really unhappy." Leaving P.D. also wasn't an impulsive decision, as she shared that she told her bosses on that show well ahead of the Season 4 finale that she would be done unless something changed.

So, P.D. fans missing Erin Lindsay shouldn't get their hopes up that Sophia Bush's return to NBC for This Is Us means Lindsay showing up again on P.D., but there's plenty to look forward to with Bush's career. Her mystery role on This Is Us has the potential to be a game-changer, and her upcoming Disney+ work should be worth watching for fans of both the actress and the 2018 Love, Simon film.

Chicago P.D.: Why Each Major Cast Member Left

It is a dangerous and precarious living working for a local police department, especially in a place as large and sprawling as Chicago. Either directly or not, the cast of NBC's Chicago P.D. has reflected the occupation's uncertainty through their time on the network drama. With the series currently in its seventh season, viewers have seen time and again that not everyone makes it out alive by the end, with several main characters exiting the show during its run so far.

Let's explore the different reasons why each of the main cast members left Chicago P.D., and whether it was directly publicized or not. Some actors' departures from the show are more high-profile than others, while the details related to some of the exits are still left a bit murky. Nevertheless, we'll tell you what we know about each actor's respective exit, and how it ultimately impacted the show following their expected or totally unexpected absence.

Archie Kao (Sheldon Jin)

While Sheldon Jin was established as one of the main characters of Chicago P.D. during its abbreviated first season, the character didn't have a long residence on the NBC drama. Specifically, Archie Kao's character was killed off during a cliffhanger in the season finale, which provided a sense of unease and general unpredictability that the producers really wanted to establish moving forward. As co-creator and former showrunner Matt Olmstead explained to TV Guide after the finale:

It would seem that the decision wasn't the result of any ill-will forming between the actor and writers early on, and nor was it related to any on-set drama. Rather, it was the decision the writers made. It wasn't an easy one, though then-showrunner Matt Olmstead believed it was one worth pursuing.

Brian Geraghty (Sean Roman)

Brian Geraghty's entrance into Chicago P.D. wasn't quite the same as his fellow co-stars. He joined the dramatic series during Season 2, signing a year-to-year contract, rather than the standard seven-year contract. Nevertheless, the producers allowed the actor to stay on the show however long he felt comfortable appearing, but as Season 3 came to a close, Geraghty told the showrunners that he was ready to move on to other projects. As former showrunner Matt Olmstead explained to TV Guide:

The producers accepted this decision without contest, finding a way to kill Sean Roman off the show. Unlike Archie Kao, this was a decision the TV actor made himself, not that the distinction helped made it easier for fans.

Sophia Bush (Erin Lindsay)

Undoubtedly, Sophia Bush has been the most notorious exit from Chicago P.D. so far, and it's also unfortunately the most devastating one, given the behind-the-scenes controversy. The TV actress chose not to reprise her role as Erin Lindsay for the show's fifth season, claiming that the work environment became emotionally and physically taxing. The actress noted that she experienced "inappropriate behavior" from co-star Jason Beghe, and that the work conditions on Chicago P.D. were intolerable, causing Bush to work in dangerous conditions.

Bush told Dax Shepard on Armchair Expert podcast that she stayed on Chicago P.D. as long as she did because she was concerned about the cast and crew. Bush worried that she would cost them their jobs if she exited. It was shortly after show-runner Matt Olmstead left the program that Bush decided to also call it quits, clearly not willing to put up with the current state of things.

Elias Koteas (Alvin Olinsky)

When it came time for Elias Koteas to leave Chicago P.D. after five seasons, Alvin Olinsky's fate was more in line with Archie Kao's departure. More specifically, it was a decision made by the writers, not the actor, as new showrunner Rick Eid explained. When it came time to draw a resolution for this character, Eid claimed it was a storytelling choice that was easier to make from a creative standpoint rather than from a business perspective. He claimed Elias Koteas contribution was "important," and Eid found this decision to be "challenging," but he felt it was the right call, and Koteas took it gracefully and professionally. As Eid told TV Guide:

As stated previously, knowing that the exit was amicable does not necessarily mean it stung any less, likely, but it it's always good to know there aren't any hard feelings.

Jon Seda (Antonio Dawson)

Earlier this year, Jon Seda became the most recent, and possibly the most surprising, exit from Chicago P.D. The TV actor is no stranger to the One Chicago world, having spent time on Chicago Fire and Chicago Justice in addition to his work on Chicago P.D. It was revealed that his character would end his time on the show after Season 6, and that he wouldn't appear in Season 7. The reason for why he left the show is still rather vague. Seda reportedly didn't want to say goodbye, but the writers decided it was his time to go.

At the end of Season 6, Antonio Dawson was seen relapsing, and went off-book to a rehabilitation center at the behest Sergeant Hank Voigt, leaving his badge on the desk as well. Unlike a number of other characters mentioned earlier, Antonio Dawson hasn't been killed, which suggests that the character might return for another appearance later down the road. Alas, the character's time on the show is done for now — at least, temporarily. As he wrote on Twitter, Jon Seda considered it "an honor" to play the role of Antonio Dawson. Also, Seda thanked all the fans for their continued support.

2020 Winter And Spring TV Schedule: Premiere Dates For Network, Cable And Streaming Shows

Not long after Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union were dropped from the America's Got Talent lineup, some concerning allegations were brought to light regarding the two's time on the show. It sounds like Union had to deal with quite a bit while she was on the show, and while there's no taking that back, she can take comfort in the fact that several high-profile women in Hollywood are speaking up for her amidst the controversy.

Twitter is aflame with women in and out of Hollywood who want to speak out on Gabrielle Union's behalf. Union found strong support from Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, who pointed out the reports were not a good look for NBC especially after it had another high profile incident in which the claims of women were left unnoticed or not taken seriously.

Reports surfaced of alleged incidents that happened on America's Got Talent during Gabrielle Union's short tenure, many of which were concerning. As an example, Union was told by producers a 10-year-old black rapper wouldn't be on the show because America couldn't get behind the act, and also allowed judge Simon Cowell to smoke indoors, which exacerbated her smoke allergy, in addition to being illegal.

That's really just the tip of the iceberg in a multitude of incidents uncovered, however, and it's enough that even women from within the NBC brand are speaking out. The Good Place's Jameela Jamil shared her support for Gabrielle Union, and added that she was upset these incidents were happening on the same network she worked for.

Jameela Jamil advocated for Gabrielle Union to stay on America's Got Talent, and that NBC instead remove Simon Cowell. Cowell is the creator of America's Got Talent, so it's unclear whether or not NBC would make a move to remove him from the series or what type of pay out there would be to get him off of the show entirely.

It's something NBC may have to consider, as NBC actresses past and present are siding with Gabrielle Union in the controversy, and taking America's Got Talent and NBC to task for their actions. Sophia Bush, who has gone through her own fair share of drama in Hollywood, gave some love to Gabrielle Union for being unafraid to speak up in the midst of all the drama.

These are just a few of the names that reached out, but there are still many other women in Hollywood who continue to support Gabrielle Union with each passing hour. For now, NBC and America's Got Talent have not made any major remarks one way or another following this outpouring of support. Perhaps, after the holiday weekend, there will be some further action on the network's part to address the recent allegations that have surfaced.

In the meantime, Gabrielle Union is just thankful for the love. The judge thanked all her supporters on Twitter for lifting her up in a moment where she was feeling low.

Even if this situation doesn't end with Gabrielle Union coming back to America's Got Talent, one can hope that NBC will take a closer look into the show's practices going forward. Provided these allegations are true, no one should have to endure a working environment of that nature.

2020 Winter And Spring TV Schedule: Premiere Dates For Network, Cable And Streaming Shows

Yes, it took five seasons before viewers were introduced to Brooke’s mom. After joining One Tree Hill in Season 5, Daphne Zuniga stayed on the show until it ended with Season 9. In the years since One Tree Hill concluded, Sophia Bush starred on and then exited Chicago P.D. on NBC. She will be returning to television via a role in the Love, Simon TV show.

The One Tree Hill cast has remained close through the years, reuniting and sharing their own fun revival idea. Last year, many of Sophia Bush and Daphne Zuniga’s former co-stars came together for a mystery project that turned out to be a Christmas movie for Lifetime. It certainly got fans’ hopes up for a revival!

In what has already been a week of nostalgic glory by way of the Lizzie McGuire revival, anything feels possible. I tend to take co-stars remaining close off-screen as a good sign for them potentially returning for a continuation. Daphne Zuniga and Sophia Bush have clearly remained at least friendly.

When One Tree Hill ended, Brooke and Victoria had mended their relationship. It would be neat to explore where their mother/daughter bond stands now. Are they still close? On that note, given all of the revivals and the reboots, is it One Tree Hill’s turn?

The drama premiered in 2003 and finished its run in 2012. As hard as it is to believe, it has been seven years since Brooke and company’s adventures came to an end. Sophia Bush and Daphne Zuniga’s reunion certainly makes you hope that a revival is not out of the question.

Sophia Bush shook up Chicago P.D. in a big way when she departed ahead of Season 5, and a faction of P.D. fans have been calling for the return of Erin Lindsay ever since. The odds are pretty good that Lindsay is gone for good, as she didn't even return for Olinsky's funeral and Bush herself is unlikely to reprise the role, but fans can look forward to seeing her back on the small screen with a new show at Disney+.

Yes, Sophia Bush has joined the cast of one of Disney+'s many new series. She'll appear in the Love, Simon TV show that follows up on the 2018 movie of the same name.

The show follows a new student at Creekwood High School as he goes through his own journey of self-discovery. Named Victor (Michael Cimino), this newcomer faces difficulties at home and adjustments to living in a new city, all while he struggles with his own sexual orientation. Victor will reach out to Love, Simon's Simon (Nick Robinson) for help getting through high school, with Victor's intelligent friend Mia (Rachel Naomi Hilson) in the mix as well.

So, who is Sophia Bush playing in Disney+'s Love, Simon? She's on board as Veronica, who connects to the plot as the new girlfriend of Mia's dad. There are no details just yet about how Mia and Veronica get along, but Veronica will run a non-profit organization that works to help women. While she's chic, sophisticated, and likable, Deadline reports she also has a strong will and tendency to be tough when necessary. The role is recurring.

Basically, fans of Sophia Bush from her time on Chicago P.D. shouldn't expect her to be Erin Lindsay 2.0 on Love, Simon. The TV show will be run by This Is Us execs Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who also penned the Love, Simon movie. If they bring their This Is Us touch to Love, Simon on Disney+, then viewers may want to have some tissues handy for episodes.

The very good news on the Sophia Bush front is that Love, Simon is totally, absolutely, 100% happening, which was not the case for the previous TV project she landed as a major character since leaving Chicago P.D. She had previously been slated to co-lead the drama project Surveillance for CBS, opposite 24 veteran Dennis Haysbert, but it never got past the pilot stage.

She did pop up on Jane the Virgin in its final season, but hardly as a series regular. Love, Simon will debut on Disney+, so Bush will be back on TV on a weekly basis once the show launches.

Love, Simon hasn't received an official premiere date from Disney+, but it won't be one of the shows like The Mandalorian that goes live with Disney+ on November 12. Once best known for her role on a CW drama series, Sophia Bush made a name for herself on one of the big 4 networks thanks to her role as Erin Lindsay on Chicago P.D. She left that show after Season 4, and she hasn't returned to her old Chicago franchise stomping grounds since her final episode in 2017. Bush hasn't joined a new show as a regular either, although there was a project that had a great deal of potential. Here's what she's been up to.

The biggest development on the Sophia Bush TV front came back in September 2018 when news broke that she'd signed on to star in the spy thriller Surveillance, which would air on CBS if it landed a series order. The project had a lot of potential and even signed 24 vet Dennis Haysbert as the male lead. Now, however, Variety reports that Bush will not come to CBS as leading lady of Surveillance after all. Surveillance isn't happening.

Although the drama had reportedly tested well for the network and had support within CBS, it was evidently not scene as a good fit for the Eye Network. So, Sophia Bush's return to a leading primetime TV role won't come courtesy of Surveillance on CBS.

But what about the projects Sophia Bush completed since leaving Chicago P.D.? She's been open about how unhappy she was before she left P.D., but her experiences there did not sour her on TV work altogether. Here's the TV work she's landed (and that hasn't been nixed) since leaving Chicago P.D.!

Sophia Bush On TV

Her first TV role after leaving Chicago P.D. (and therefore also nixing future appearances on Chicago Fire, Med, the short-lived Justice, and Law & Order: SVU as Erin Lindsay) took her to ABC. She appeared in one episode of the Zach Braff-led Alex, Inc. on the Alphabet Network in 2018. If the name "Alex, Inc." doesn't ring a bell, that would presumably be because Alex, Inc. (which CinemaBlend dubbed "sweet and silly" but "mostly boring" in our review) lasted only one season.

Sophia Bush's next TV project took her to Netflix for an episode of the anthology Easy. She appeared in the third and final season of the dramedy series, which premiered on May 10, 2019. She appeared in the episode "Spontaneous Combustion."

Her final TV project since leaving Chicago P.D. was an episode of Jane the Virgin on The CW. The episode aired back in June and featured Sophia Bush as a character by the name of Julie.

Sophia Bush was clearly excited about Jane the Virgin, and not just because it took her back to the network that launched her career. Her friend Gina Rodriguez called her up to appear in the last season of Jane the Virgin, and Bush made it clear that she was psyched to work with Rodriquez and Jane the Virgin leading man Justin Baldoni. But what of her non-TV roles since leaving Chicago P.D.?

Sophia Bush In Movies

Sophia Bush's first post-Chicago P.D. film was Marshall in the fall of 2017. She played a character credited as "Jen at the Bar" in the Chadwick Boseman-starring story about Thurgood Marshall. It was hardly the biggest role in the movie, but it brought her to the big screen.

After Marshall, in 2018, she tackled another crime-fighting role to play Detective Brooke Baker in Acts of Violence. Starring Bruce Wilson in the lead role, the movie sees a bride-to-be abducted at her bachelorette party, and the plot only thickens from there thanks to the groom's brothers. Sophia Bush already knew her way around a law enforcement character, so it was a solid fit for her.

Arguably Sophia Bush's biggest film role also came in 2018, but it didn't feature her in live-action. No, she joined the cast of Incredibles 2 to voice a new superhero known as Voyd. The film was in the works for a very long time, and Bush shared that she totally lost it in a restaurant when she got the news that she'd landed the role.

That's it for Sophia Bush's TV and film roles since leaving Chicago P.D., but there was one other project connected to the Incredibles franchise that she contributed to. She voiced Voyd again for the LEGO The Incredibles video game.

Now that Surveillance isn't happening, Sophia Bush fans will just have to wait and see what's in store for her next. All three shows in the Chicago franchise have been renewed, but considering the circumstances that caused her to leave P.D. (and that she hasn't held back from explaining why she wanted to leave P.D.), I wouldn't put money on her reprising the role of Erin Lindsay. Only time will tell if she lands a new show of her own or pursues interests elsewhere.

Sophia Bush was a key part of the Chicago P.D. cast for its first several years on the air, and she left the show following Season 4. At first, it wasn't entirely clear why she was leaving or whether she would be back, but she opened up in subsequent months regarding what happened and even how she told her bosses about her decision.

Fortunately for her fans, leaving P.D. didn't mean the end of opportunities on TV. Sophia Bush recently landed another TV role, and this one will take her back to the network where she had her breakout role: The CW.

This TV role for Sophia Bush in 2019 was revealed when the actress herself reposted a photo from Jane the Virgin leading man Justin Baldoni on Instagram. She didn't reveal what role she would be playing on Jane the Virgin, when in the final season she would appear, or what she would be doing, but Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez apparently called her up with the invite! Judging by her caption, Bush is having a great time on set of Jane the Virgin.

Sadly, we can't count on Sophia Bush playing a character who will be back time and time again. Jane the Virgin will kick off its fifth and final season in the not-too-distant future. Then again, maybe she could return for the Jane the Virgin spinoff if that happens! Gina Rodriguez will reportedly be involved, so maybe she could bring her gal pal back again. Jane the Virgin returns for its final season on March 27, so Bush will presumably make her Jane debut (and CW return) at some point this spring.

Now, what else does Sophia Bush have in the works? If all goes well, she'll be making her way to CBS for an exciting new lead role on a brand new show. Back in September 2018, Deadline reported that Bush had signed on to star in a spy thriller drama called Surveillance. The project assembled a team behind the scenes including Matt Reeves of The Passage and Batman, David C. White of Sons of Liberty, and Patricia Riggen of Jack Ryan.

The behind-the-scenes team seems ideally suited for a spy thriller, and Sophia Bush's past work proves that she can handle action and adventure as well as emotional arcs. Although Surveillance did not receive a series order right off the bat, CBS gave a production commitment to the project in what was then described as "one of the biggest sales so far this pitch season."

It was later announced that Dennis Haysbert of 24 fame had been cast alongside Sophia Bush, with him slated to play an NSA deputy director to Bush's NSA operative by the name of Maddy. Unfortunately, there is not yet any news about whether or not viewers will get to see Surveillance with Bush and Haysbert, but fans can cross their fingers. What is certain is that Bush will be back on the small screen in the not-too-distant future with Jane the Virgin.

Some of the juiciest drama happens behind-the-scenes of TV shows. Offhand, you can probably think of any number of actors/actresses from Downton Abbey to Game of Thrones and beyond with shocking exits. Sometimes the actors leave under let's say cloudy conditions, and other times it's the showrunners who create controversy with the writing of the exit. It's kind of amazing to think that we've had so many such departures just in the past five years. This list only scratches the surface -- starting with the exit that should be coming up next...

George Eads, MacGyver

George Eads is leaving MacGyver, with the show setting up an exit for his character Jack Dalton in the Friday, February 1 episode. Eads reportedly had an on-set altercation of some kind back in October and subsequently stormed off the Atlanta set. When he returned, he asked to be released from his contract, reportedly due to a desire to spend time with his daughter in Los Angeles. Eads also left a different CBS show under similar circumstances. He left CSI after 15 seasons, one season after an on-set problem with one of the writers. It seemed like he might quit, but he took a leave of absence and came back for another season before being written off.

Clayne Crawford, Lethal Weapon

Clayne Crawford's departure from Lethal Weapon was ugly from every angle. He was cut from the show before Season 3 due to alleged misconduct. The show decided to kill off Martin Riggs and give Damon Wayans' Roger Murtaugh a new partner. Some of Crawford's bad behavior was caught on camera, including clashes with Wayans, who didn't come across so good himself. In one instance, Crawford had a meltdown over filming scenes at an L.A. area pool. After that, he agreed to undergo counseling. Ultimately, his character was killed off and -- after a time jump -- Seann William Scott stepped in as the new co-lead Season 3. In late 2018, Wayans said he planned to leave the show after Season 3, but that may not be the case anymore. Then again, Fox has yet to renew the show for a Season 4, so it may be a moot point.

Thomas Gibson, Criminal Minds

Thomas Gibson's character Aaron Hotchner was written off Criminal Minds after the actor had an on-set altercation during production on Season 12. Gibson was directing an episode and had a heated incident with the episode's writer, allegedly kicking at him. He was fired. Hotch, a main character of the show, was written to have taken a consulting job off screen. Later, that was said to be a ruse, and he went into witness protection to get away from Mr. Scratch. Hotch could've returned to the BAU later, but fans were told that he decided to retire and be a full-time parent to Jack. It's not clear if Hotch will return for the Criminal Minds finale. That wasn't the first time something like that had happened; in 2010, Gibson allegedly pushed an assistant director, and had to take anger management counseling.

Danny Masterson, The Ranch

Danny Masterson was fired from Netflix's The Ranch during filming for Season 3, after five women came forward with rape allegations. His character, Rooster, appeared to leave town at the end of Part 5. But that wasn't the end of his story. When Part 6 premiered, Beau Bennett (Sam Elliott) got a call that Rooster's motorcycle was found at the bottom of a cliff. Apparently he went into a curve too fast, his brakes locked up, and he went over the guardrail. Rooster's body wasn't found, but he was presumed dead, and the family held a memorial for him. So they killed Rooster off, but also left the door open for the character. Danny Masterson asked fans to keep supporting The Ranch, even with Rooster "MIA."

Roseanne Barr, Roseanne

Roseanne had a hugely popular revival Season 10 when it returned in 2018. But Roseanne Barr has never been shy with her opinions, and she took a tweet a step too far for ABC. Since it was Roseanne's show, with her name on it, when ABC wanted to fire Barr after a racist tweet, the network decided to cancel the entire show. ABC boss Channing Dungey called Roseanne's tweet about Valerie Jarrett "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values." The rest of the Roseanne cast, who were basically collateral damage in the drama, returned for a spinoff called The Conners.

Kevin Spacey, House of Cards

Kevin Spacey's personal house of cards came crashing down after Star Trek: Discovery and Rent star Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of trying to have sex with him when Rapp was just 14 years old. After that, several members of the House of Cards also came forward with stories about Spacey's alleged misconduct. Netflix decide to cut ties with Spacey, and cut him out of the final Season 6 entirely. Robin Wright's President Claire Underwood was instead the lead of the shortened final season. The show killed off Frank Underwood, and also buried the character somewhere he would never want to be. Spacey later revived his character for a bizarre holiday video called "Let Me Be Frank."

Erinn Hayes, Kevin Can Wait

This casting drama started when it was announced that Kevin James' former King of Queens co-star Leah Remini would be joining Kevin Can Wait full-time in Season 2. That news was followed by reports that Erinn Hayes was fired after Season 1. The show decided to kill off her character, Donna, wife of Kevin's lead character. That allowed Season 2 to focus on Kevin's relationship with Remini's Vanessa Cellucci. The change didn't sit well with fans, and Hayes didn't seem to be happy with it either. CBS decided to cancel the whole show after Season 2 anyway.

Connie Britton, Nashville

It was a huge shock to Nashville fans when Rayna James died due to injuries from a car crash. It seemed like Rayna was going to be fine ... until she wasn't. Fans were devastated. What was Nashville without Rayna James? Connie Britton said leaving was her decision. She felt it was time to exit Nashville after it found a new home at CMT for Season 5. But the show continued for another season on CMT, and Britton even brought back Rayna back in the finale for two scenes -- a flashback and the big musical number at the end.

Sophia Bush, Chicago P.D.

Sophia Bush left Chicago P.D. after playing Det. Erin Lindsay for four seasons. She was tight-lipped about her reasons at first, and only opened up more over time, talking about her unhappiness on the set. Bush said (via TVLine) that she experienced "a consistent onslaught barrage of abusive behavior." She said producers initially dismissed her complaints, and they even seemed irritated that she was asking them to investigate negative conditions on set. She gave them notice that if things didn't change by the end of Season 4, she'd quit. She threatened to sue the network and write an op-ed on why she was unhappy, but NBC ultimately allowed her an early exit from her seven-season contract.

T.J. Miller, Silicon Valley

T.J. Miller's Erlich Bachman was one of the main characters of HBO's Silicon Valley. When Miller announced he'd be leaving the show after Season 4 wrapped, plenty of reasons flew around as to why. Initially, Miller said he wanted to do more things like The Emoji Movie and have time to develop animated features. After that, more stories started coming out about his allegedly unprofessional behavior on set. He also reportedly didn't get along with star Thomas Middleditch. The more that came out, the more toxic and mutual the departure sounded.

Stana Katic, Castle

Stana Katic played co-lead Kate Beckett on Castle, so it was baffling to fans to hear she'd be leaving after Season 8 -- and not by her own choice. Nathan Fillion's contract was renewed, and he and some of the other stars were ready to return for Season 9. But how could Castle continue without Beckett? Rumors flew as to what happened, from recycled talk of tension between Katic and Fillion to discussion of various contracts. There was huge fan outcry, and ABC ultimately decided just to end the show with Season 8. Two different endings were filmed -- one with a cliffhanger if Season 9 had happened, and the happy ending that fans got to see. But the behind-the-scenes drama toward the end of the show's run was still fresh to fans, and soured the happy ending a bit.

Josh Charles, The Good Wife

So much of The Good Wife was the love story between Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) and Will Gardner (Josh Charles). So it was a massive shock to see Will gunned down inside a courtroom in Season 5, Episode 15. Will was dead. Josh Charles had wanted to leave the show, and the creators wrote an open letter to fans to try and justify the end of Will's story. Charles' exit wasn't even the only dramatic one for the legal show. You may have heard about the rumored tension between Margulies and Archie Panjabi, who played Kalinda Sharma. When Panjabi left in Season 6, the show filmed a final scene for best friends Alicia and Kalinda. But there was speculation that the stars filmed their respective sides of the scene separately.

Patrick Dempsey, Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy is now in Season 15 but fans are still pissed about Derek's death. There was already behind-the-scenes drama suggesting Patrick Dempsey would be leaving the show, but the way they wrote out his character in Season 11 was just brutal. Derek had stopped to help some people in a car accident, and ended up hit himself. He was rushed to a hospital, but not Grey Sloan, and his doctor made a mistake that ended up in Derek's death. Shonda Rhimes defended the decision to kill off Derek, saying it was better than having him just disappear on Meredith Grey. At least this preserved their love story. Some fans said they would stop watching after Derek's death. Even some current viewers still don't want Mer to be with anyone else.

Columbus Short, Scandal

Columbus Short brought his own scandal to Scandal. He played Harrison Wright on the first three seasons, but confirmed he wouldn't return for Season 4. Harrison was ultimately killed in the Season 3 finale. Short opened up later about the personal drama that led to his departure, saying, "I'll be candid. I was struggling with drugs. I had a lot on my plate, and you know, I was using unhealthy ways to kind of self-medicate and deal with a lot of heavy duty stuff in my life." He was jailed after getting into a fight in a restaurant, and his wife filed for divorce following a misdemeanor spousal battery charge. Short said Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes and the cast knew about his drug and alcohol problems and tried to protect him and hold him down. "And that was one of the real reasons – they just wanted me to get my stuff together."

Chandler Riggs, The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead loves a shocking exit, but if there was any character that seemed safe, it was Carl Grimes. Chandler Riggs apparently though he'd be safe for a while too, so it was shocking for him as well as fans when Carl was killed off halfway through Season 8. Riggs said it was "devastating" for him and his family, especially since he had just bought a house in the Atlanta area where Walking Dead films. Riggs' father also spoke out on social media, slamming showrunner Scott M. Gimple for firing Chandler two weeks before the actor's 18th birthday, despite telling him they wanted him on the show for the next three years. The very next season, the show's main star, Andrew Lincoln, also exited the show -- although this time it was by choice, and AMC didn't kill off Rick Grimes, the network is giving him his own set of films.

Those are just a few of the controversial departures from the past few years. There are more -- and many more if we went back even further in time. At this point, we've just started the second month of 2019, but it will surely add more names to the list. That's the way of the TV biz. Sophia Bush is offering even more insight into her decision to quit Chicago P.D. following Season 4. As fans likely remember, the actress left the show, and lots of speculation ensued in the aftermath. Bush is now opening even more about why she decided to leave the NBC drama, saying:

At the time of her exit from Chicago P.D., Sophia Bush shared that she left because she "wanted to." Flash forward to now, and the actress is opening up about the physical toll her unhappiness was having on her. Bush shared the candid insight during an interview on Dax Shepherd's Armchair Expert.

It sounds as though Sophia Bush had to take action in order to prioritize both her mental and physical health over doing the NBC show. Bush did share that there were aspects about doing Chicago P.D. that she loved. Clearly, the bad ended up outweighing the good.

She also discussed the harsh conditions of filming on-location in Chicago's freezing winters. Something that could make you cold just hearing her describe it. Despite the conditions, coming to the realization that she needed to leave her role as Detective Erin Lindsay did not happen overnight. Sophia Bush continued to open up about the emotional context that led to her decision. Bush said:

Sophia Bush had to draw a line in the snow. She said that at the table read for Chicago P.D.'s Season 4 premiere, she shared her concerns about the working conditions with her two bosses. As she has said previously, she gave them advance notice that things had to change by the end of the season or she was out. Bush said that they had a "23 episode" notice for things to improve.

Of course, we know that those improvements never came, and Sophia Bush made good on her word. She left the drama. Bush was ultimately released from her seven-year contract following the threat of legal action. Bush was in the middle of her contract at the time she left the show.

This interview is not the first time the actress has opened about the behind-the-scenes things that led to her decision. Of course, her reasons have been mired in a lot of mystery and speculation. She previously discussed why it is so complicated to discuss her exit.

In this interview, Sophia Bush got pretty candid without getting into any particulars. Last year, Bush responded to a comment regarding her exit from Chicago P.D., which intimated she was let go from the show. Bush replied by saying that it took her a "long time" and a "lot of hard work to get out" of the show, putting that assertion entirely to rest.

Despite everything that has happened behind-the-scenes, Chicago P.D. has continued. The series is part of the popular Chicago franchise on NBC. It is currently in the midst of its sixth season. It is among many that returned this fall and will return in the midseason.
