There are always a lot of opinions and questions surrounding Meghan Markle amidst her and Prince Harry’s ongoing estrangement from the royal family, whether it’s tension between the Sussexes and their neighbors, the constant turnover of their staff or a number of other topics. What we don’t talk about all that often is whether or not the Suits alum might return to acting. A former co-star’s comments have changed that, leading to the duchess apparently being “bombarded” with work offers.

Eric Roberts, who played Charles Forstman starting in Season 4 of Suits, raised eyebrows last month when he told The Daily Mail at a red carpet event that Meghan Markle “will return” to acting. According to a senior casting agent in Los Angeles, this has led to directors and producers “scrambling in the last couple of weeks” for opportunities to hire her. The agent told Page Six:

Meghan Markle retired from acting eight years ago after getting engaged to Prince Harry, and since then, she has only appeared as herself in series like Harry & Meghan, With Love, Meghan, and other docs available with a Netflix subscription.

Now, projects in a variety of genres are available to the Duchess of Sussex, according to the casting agent, who said:

In fact, Meghan Markle has already filmed a part for the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends from Amazon MGM Studios. The film is still in post-production, so it’s unknown if it will be finished in time to make the 2026 movie release calendar, but it stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding. Markle will reportedly play herself in a small cameo.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to see her take on fictional roles, but if and when that happens, the casting agent predicted it’s going to generate “stratospheric” hype:

So what exactly did Eric Roberts say that supposedly threw all of these filmmakers into a tizzy? The Suits alum said:

The timing of these comments is interesting, as Meghan Markle’s partnership with Netflix is in question after the streaming giant dropped her jam brand, which some think signals the end is near for their overall deal.

Only time will tell what will happen between Netflix and the Sussexes, and whether or not Meghan Markle goes back in front of the camera.

Legal dramas, thrillers, and comedies have been part of Hollywood since the very beginning. Whether it's classic shows like L.A. Law and Ally McBeal, or movies like A Time To Kill and To Kill A Mockingbird, there is every kind of movie about the law, and the lawyers who practice it.

L.A. Law

Admit it, you can hear that saxophone intro as the trunk slams on the Mercedes that opened every episode of L.A. Law for eight seasons from 1986 until 1994. It was one of the anchors of NBC's legendary Thursday nights in that era. It was the only drama in the lineup, and for those of us who grew up at the time, it was the perfect way to end the evening.

A Time To Kill

Matthew McConaughey's first movie role came as a cast member of the legendary Dazed and Confused, where he was responsible for some classic lines. He really became a more rounded movie star with his starring turn in A Time To Kill, with Samuel L. Jackson. McConaughey plays a lawyer defending Jackson's character for what audiences see as a justified murder.

Ally McBeal

The legal world has always been a rich area for comedy. I'm not going to make any comments about lawyers here... But Ally McBeal helped define late '90s TV and made stars of Calista Flockhart, Jane Krakowski, and Portia de Rossi.

Juror #2

Lawyers aren't always the focus of legal dramas. Sometimes, movies are about the jury, like the appropriately named Juror #2, directed by Clint Eastwood. Nicholas Hoult plays a juror who quickly learns he may actually be responsible for the death of the person the man on trial is accused of murdering. It's an intense movie, to say the least.

Perry Mason

In the early days of television, one of the most popular and longest-running shows was Perry Mason. It proved so enduring that Raymond Burr, who starred as the titular attorney, returned to play the role in more than two dozen TV movies right up until just before his death in 1993. Perry Mason set the template of "case of the week" shows that followed it.

A Few Good Men

Years before JAG made the Navy's Judge Advocate General's Corps a staple on TV, the Aaron Sorkin-penned, Rob Reiner-directed classic A Few Good Men brought audiences into the world of military political thrillers. Tom Cruise plays a cocky but inexperienced officer defending two Marines accused of murder in this amazing movie with amazing performances all around, especially Jack Nicholson.

My Cousin Vinny

Marisa Tomai might have won an Oscar for My Cousin Vinny, but she's hardly the only amazing performance in this fish out of water legal comedy starring Joe Pesci as a New York lawyer...well, almost lawyer... who travels to a small town in Alabama to defend his nephew and his nephews friend, who are charged with murder. It's a hilarious classic.

Legally Blonde

You knew we had to include the beloved Legally Blonde on this list. It's the movie that really made Reese Witherspoon an A-list star and spawned multiple sequels, a musical, and a streaming TV show on Prime. The law in it may be dubious, but the comedy is not.

Marshall

2017's Marshall is the origin story of a real-life superhero, future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The film, starring Chadwick Boseman as Marshall, tells the story of an early case in the legend's career when he defended an innocent man, played by Sterling K. Brown, accused of murder. It's a movie that doesn't often get mentioned, but it should because it's as powerful as it sounds.

To Kill A Mockingbird

One of the true American classics of both literature and cinema is To Kill A Mockingbird. The movie, based on the book by Harper Lee, stars Gregory Peck as the single father and lawyer Atticus Finch, who defends a man accused of assault. It's hard to understate how important both the book and movie are to millions of people.

Suits

Of course, these days, Suits is maybe most famous for being the Duchess of Sussex's greatest success on screen. Meghan Markle is part of a great cast of this legal drama that first became a hit on the USA network before finding a second life years later on Netflix, when its renewed popularity spawned a spinoff, Suits LA, on the streamer.

The Firm

The Firm is about a different kind of practice than most legal thrillers. There aren't any courtrooms or dramatic moments deposing witnesses; instead, it's about a slimier side of the law. Tom Cruise plays a young lawyer fresh out of law school who unwittingly goes to work for a mobbed-up law firm. Like others on this list, it's based on a John Grisham book, one of his first.

Amistad

One of Steven Spielberg's more under-appreciated movies has to be Amistad, about the trial of a group of enslaved men accused of murder on the high seas. It features a ton of wonderful performances, including Anthony Hopkins in the role of former President John Quincy Adams, who helped defend the men in this true story.

Boston Legal

The Practice was a more serious legal drama on ABC in the late '90s, but its spinoff, Boston Legal, mixed in a ton more humor. James Spader and William Shatner both play lawyers in the show, and both are brilliant in their roles. It had some very serious moments, and some completely over-the-top ridiculous ones, too. It was a great blend of drama and humor. It's a rare example of a spinoff meeting and maybe exceeding its predecessor.

Erin Brockovich

Julia Roberts' character, the titular Erin Brockovich, is a real person, though she wasn't a lawyer. That doesn't mean she didn't understand the law, though, nor was she unwilling to fight for those that couldn't get anyone else to help.

Law & Order

Of course, we had to include Law & Order. The enduring show has run for more than two dozen seasons over the years, though not all consecutively. We'll just include all its various spinoffs here; otherwise, we'd only be able to half the list we have here with all the different versions over the years. And you can admit it, you're humming the theme song right now.

Better Call Saul

There are a handful of TV spinoffs on this list, and one is Better Call Saul, which, of course, was spun off of Breaking Bad. The immensely popular show was critically lauded, but somehow the Bob Odenkirk-led drama never won an Emmy, which is bonkers.

The Rainmaker

John Grisham has written a ton of books that have been adapted into movies, and one of the best of those adaptations is the underrated The Rainmaker, starring Matt Damon as a young lawyer suing an insurance company in a true David v. Goliath plot. It's one of Francis Ford Copolla's most overlooked movies.

How to Get Away with Murder

Shonda Rhimes has developed everything from medical dramas (Grey's Anatomy) to political thrillers (Scandal), so of course, she's got a legal drama under her belt with How to Get Away with Murder. It's unique because it blends law school with law practice, and it definitely benefits from the wonderful performance by Viola Davis in the starring role.

Matlock

Right there with Perry Mason as one of the most famous TV lawyers of all time is Andy Griffith's Matlock in the show of the same name. Sure, it's been the butt of jokes on The Simpsons for years, but the show was truly beloved when it aired and even spawned a reboot recently on CBS.

Philadelphia

One movie that people love, but can only watch once because it is so heavy, is Philadelphia, starring Denzel Washington as a lawyer suing on behalf of another lawyer who was let go from his law firm after contracting AIDS. It was one of the first movies to ever confront the epidemic and its effects directly, and it's an amazing and heartbreaking legal drama.

12 Angry Men

12 Angry Men, from legendary director Sidney Lumet, is considered one of the best movies ever made, to say nothing of one of the best legal dramas ever. It's a power takedown of McCarthyism at the height of the Red Scare in 1957, and it's a fearless movie in that regard. The cast is led by Henry Fonda and includes actors like Jack Klugman, Jack Warden, Ed Begley, Sr., and Martin Balsam as the jury foreman.

Anatomy Of A Fall

The Best Picture-nominated Anatomy Of A Fall gives audiences a peek into the legal system in France, which is very different from most of the entries on this list. The movie is set around a mysterious death that could be murder. It's a powerful and engaging movie that holds the viewer's attention for every second of the film.

Night Court

If you grew up watching TV in the 1980s, there is little doubt that Night Court on NBC was a favorite sitcom. The cast became legendary, winning all kinds of Emmys and other awards. The plot, about the goings on of a court in New York City, was not secondary to the characters, either, as every episode had some over-the-top legal moments, few of which were realistic but most of which were hilarious.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Television producer David E. Kelly has a great history of developing legal dramas for TV, which include Ally McBeal, The Practice, and Boston Legal. His fourth on that list is The Lincoln Lawyer, based on a book by Michael Connelly called The Brass Verdict about a lawyer who literally practices law out of his car, a Lincoln. The first book in the same series was adapted into a movie starring Matthew McConaughey in 2011.

The Good Wife

The parade of guest stars that appeared in episodes of The Good Wife is long and distinguished, but that isn't all the show is remembered for. Unlike most legal TV shows, the show often had long story arcs over multiple episodes. It made the show unique and insanely bingeable.

The Pelican Brief

The Pelican Brief is John Grisham's third book, and the second to be adapted into a movie (behind The Firm). Like most of Grisham's stories, it's fast-paced and entertaining, but it's a pretty different story from The Firm or A Time To Kill (Grisham's first novel). It almost has the vibe of a spy thriller as much as a legal thriller. Julia Roberts' career was really exploding at the time, as was Denzel Washington's, so the movie was almost guaranteed to be a hit, and it was.

Legal Eagles

1996's Legal Eagles is unique on this list in that it is a rom-com as much as it is a legal movie. There aren't all that many movies that cross those genres, and while the '80s movie does feel a little dated, it is buoyed by two solid performances from Debra Winger and Robert Redford, and some snappy directing from Ivan Reitman.

The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story

Anyone alive in 1995 remembers the O.J. Simpson murder trial all too well. It was literally inescapable. In a way, it's surprising that it took more than 20 years for a movie (or, in this case, a mini-series) to be made about it. It was worth the wait, though, as the Ryan Murphy-produced show was gripping, despite the fact that everyone knew how it was going to end. It also has a fantastic ensemble cast.

A Civil Action

1998's A Civil Action was one of the first legal movies to tackle a civil litigation against a big company. Based on the true story of a lawyer named Jan Schlichtmann (John Travolta), the movie follows a class action lawsuit against two companies accused of contaminating groundwater, causing widespread cases of cancer. While it is very much a "'90s" movie, and it didn't do all that well at the box office, it's got some solid performances by a slew of great actors.

From The Hip

We had to include this oft-forgotten classic comedy that we think is very underrated. From The Hip features a hilarious performance from Judd Nelson as a young lawyer trying his first case and not understanding (or caring about) the rules of the court. Not the best movie on this list, but a fun deep cut if you've seen all the others.

The Client

Another great legal drama based on a book by John Grisham is The Client, starring Susan Sarandon, who works on behalf of an 11-year-old who is a witness in a mob case. Brad Renfro, who is an actor who died tragically before turning 40, plays the boy in a scene-stealing performance.

Meghan Markle has 100% made her mark on Netflix. Between her and Prince Harry’s popular docuseries Harry & Meghan to her cooking show With Love, Meghan, there are plenty of opportunities to keep up with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by way of a Netflix subscription. However, she’s also made her mark on the streaming service with Suits. So, I’ve been wondering how the two shows compare in terms of popularity. Well, we have an answer.

I have to say, while the answer doesn’t necessarily shock me, it is a bit jarring. I fully expected Suits, a very popular and long-running drama, to have more viewers than the new cooking series With Love, Meghan. However, I didn’t expect their rankings on Netflix’s What We Watched report to be so far apart, as the legal drama’s first season sits at No. 151 while the new cooking show landed in spot 383.

Now, let’s break these numbers down further. Out of Suits' nine seasons, the first four of them outrank With Love, Meghan. The order of their ranking is as follows:

• No. 151 – Suits Season 1, 86 million hours viewed and 9.3 million views
• No. 242 – Suits Season 2, 82.9 million hours viewed and 7.2 million views
• No. 306– Suits Season 3, 72.2 million hours viewed and 6.2 million views
• No. 378 – Suits Season 4, 61 million hours viewed and 5.3 million views
• No. 383 – With Love, Meghan, 25.5 million hours viewed and 5.3 million views

Seasons 5 through 9 of Suits all rank lower than the cooking show, with Season 5 at No. 424, Season 6 at No. 465, Season 7 at No. 479, Season 8 at No. 595 and Season 9 at No. 623. It’s worth noting that Markle left the show after Season 7.

Overall, it is a bit jarring that a brand new show, like With Love, Meghan would bring in a significantly lower number of viewers than Suits, a show that’s been out and over for years. However, it’s also not surprising.

Suits had quite the resurgence a couple of years ago, and it absolutely dominated on Netflix in 2023, specifically. Plus, it’s been proven time and time again that long-running and popular shows that are completely over can retain and grow audiences on streaming as they continue to find new viewers while old fans re-watch – just look at the sustained popularity of shows like The Office (which you can watch with a Peacock subscription) and Friends (which is now streamable with an HBO Max subscription).

Also, in With Love, Meghan’s defense, it has had less time on Netflix than Suits. This report tracks numbers between January and June. The legal drama has been on the streaming service since 2023. The Duchess of Sussex’s series was delayed on the 2025 TV schedule due to the LA wildfires, and ultimately premiered in March. So, the USA Network series had a head start.

However, it’s still a bit wild to see the numbers, considering the interest the public has in the Royal Family and Meghan and Harry specifically. Although never doubt the power of a comfort, long-running show, they were on the air for a long time for a reason, and clearly have the power to keep viewers interested on streaming, too.

It was a surprise to many when Suits blew up on Netflix the way it did, leading to a renewed interest in the nine-season legal drama that starred Meghan Markle, Patrick J. Adams, Gina Torres and more. It even led to the Suits LA spinoff, which premiered on the 2025 TV schedule in February but was unfortunately canceled after one season. A source is now saying that Markle could have helped to prevent that, had she not turned down a guest appearance.

The Duchess of Sussex, who portrayed Rachel Zane for seven seasons of the original show, did not appear on Suits LA before it became another of the shows canceled in 2025 — dashing our hopes of a Prince Harry-on-set story. There may be some bad blood there, too, as a source for Radar says the cast and crew of the spinoff is allegedly disappointed that Meghan Markle reportedly turned her back on the show instead of helping. The insider said:

There were rumors that she might appear on the spinoff, and certainly there was hope. Aaron Korsh, the creator of both Suits and Suits LA, said the door was open to Meghan Markle for a cameo, either as Rachel or even playing herself.

The insider alleges that as the show failed to get good ratings, Suits higher-ups were begging the duchess to make an appearance, as her co-star Gabriel Macht had. Macht reprised the role of Harvey Specter for a three-episode arc, but it didn’t move the dial the way a different cameo likely would have. The source said:

That clearly didn’t happen, and the source went on to say that not only could Meghan Markle possibly have kept Suits LA from cancellation, but doing a solid for her old friends might have benefited her down the road. In their words:

It is always good to be owed a favor, and especially if money’s a little tight these days — the Sussexes reportedly had to make some staffing cuts to save some cash recently — it might have been nice for Meghan Markle to have that in her back pocket, if the insider’s allegations are true.

Acting just doesn’t seem to be a part of her plan, though, as she’s focusing on her lifestyle brand. You still can see the Duchess on TV by streaming With Love, Meghan (or Suits) with a Netflix subscription. Suits and Suits LA can also be streamed with a Peacock subscription.

Following Suits’ record-breaking resurgence on Netflix, the USA Network series managed to get a spinoff five years after it ended. Suits LA premiered on NBC in February on the 2025 TV schedule, and even though ratings haven’t been great, reports say it might get renewed. Plus, personally, I'm enjoying the show and being back in the world of these lawyers. Now, another USA Network show has a reboot in the works at NBC (and, no, it’s not White Collar).

Royal Pains Is Getting Rebooted At NBC

A reboot of the dramedy Royal Pains is in the works at NBC, according to Deadline.

The original series ran from 2009 to 2016 for eight seasons and just over 100 episodes. Created by Andrew Lenchewski and John P. Rogers, Royal Pains followed Hank Lawson, an unfairly discredited but brilliant diagnostic surgeon who moved to the Hamptons with his brother, taking up work as a concierge doctor to the rich and famous. Overall, it was a fun concept, and I love the idea of seeing it back on our screens with a fresh twist.

In this reboot, Mark Feuerstein will reprise his role as Dr. Lawson, and he'll executive produce. As of now, no other original cast members, including Paulo Costanzo, Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Ben Shenkman, Jill Flint, and Campbell Scott, are attached to return, but things could always change.

Lenchewski, who also served as writer and EP on the original series, is returning to write and executive produce alongside Michael Rauch, who was a writer, director, and EP on the USA show. Rich Frank is also returning to executive produce the reboot, which is set several years after the original, with Hank searching for a new purpose in life as he embarks on his biggest project yet.

Why Suits LA Makes Me Cautiously Optimistic For This New Reboot

Considering the success of Suits and Suits LA, it’s not surprising that NBC would want to try another reboot. Since Suits LA features a whole new cast, led by Stephen Amell, and takes place in a different city, it’s like a whole new show sprinkled with a bit of Suits here and there.

Overall, it is nice to have the franchise back up and running again, especially for those who are fans of legal dramas. It also helps that the series' creator, Aaron Korsh, is behind LA, some OG Suits stars have been returning, and some big reveals came with the return of Gabriel Macht's Harvey Specter.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this new take on Suits and its connections to the original series. Now, Royal Pains has the chance to do something similar with Feuerstein and the show's creative team returning.

Personally, I'd love to see Hank in a totally new place working on new issues that have the potential to connect to the original series.

That being said, reboots, revivals, and spinoffs can either be a hit or a miss, no matter what the show is. Since Feuerstein would be leading the Royal Pains reboot and it’s serving as a continuation of sorts, that could work in the show’s favor. However, it'd also be fun to see them take a page out of Suits LA's book and introduce us to a bunch of new characters, too.

Since this Royal Pains reboot is only in development, there is no telling if it will actually ever be picked up to series. And if it does, we'll probably have to wait a while to watch it. Unfortunately, the original show is not streaming on any platform. However, you can get a taste of the USA Network to NBC pipeline by watching Suits LA on NBC or with a Peacock subscription.

Warning: SPOILERS for the Suits LA episode “Bat Signal” are ahead!

Well, Suits fans, it’s time to say goodbye to Harvey Specter… again. It seemed like we’d only have to do this once when Suits ended its nine-season run in 2019, but then it was announced that Gabriel Macht would reprise his character in three episodes of Suits LA. The third and final of those appearances just finished airing on the 2025 TV schedule, with Harvey appearing prominently in both the past and present day storylines of “Bat Signal.” In the midst of this, we also finally got some updates about what’s happened to Harvey since Suits wrapped up over half a decade ago.

To make a long story, “Bat Signal” saw crime boss John Pellegrini being sentenced to 25 years in prison and eligible for parole after 15. It originally was going a life sentence, but the judge changed his mind after Pellegrini gave a “heartfelt” statement after his guilty verdict was read, followed by the racketeering charges being tossed out. The latter happened (after fellow Suits alum Daniel Hardman testified) because Harvey was forced to go on the stand and inform the court that he’d given Ted Black, his friends, financial files concerning the Pellegrini case that Ted otherwise wouldn’t have known about.

Then in the present day, following Ted learning from Harvey that Pellegrini was being left out of prison early, the two enacted an elaborate plan with Troy Winbush’s Kevin that ended with Pellegrini being put back behind bars and the man under the crime boss’ employ who killed Eddie Black, Ted’s brother, living the rest of his life in fear of being killed while in witness protection. You can stream the episode with your Peacock subscription if you want the full context for both storylines.

Now back to Harvey Specter. There’s no question that the biggest reveal about his post-Suits life from “Bat Signal” is that he’s a father! Viewers learned this when Harvey got a text from someone in his phone labeled as “My Boy” saying, “Daddy, when are you going to call?” Harvey confirmed the existence of his son to Ted towards the end of the episode, but he stopped short of revealing the kid’s name.

If I had to guess, Harvey’s son is probably named Michael after Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross given how close those two became in the original Suits. Whether that’s the case or not, I’m just glad to hear that he and Sarah Rafferty’s Donna Paulsen, who got married in the Suits series finale, are now parents! Although Gabriel Macht has cast doubt on appearing in Suits LA again, if the shows ends up running multiple seasons, hopefully he’ll change his mind and come back with Rafferty in tow for at least one episode so we can see Harvey and Donna with their son.

The other big thing revealed about present day Harvey Specter was that his younger brother Marcus died of cancer a few years ago. This comes close to two years after the death of Billy Miller, who played Marcus on Suits, at the age of 43. Harvey brought up Marcus to ask Ted if dealing with the death of a brother gets any easier, to which Stephen Amell’s character answered, “Depends on the day.” Harvey and Ted parted on good terms in “Bat Signal,” so even if we never see Gabriel Macht on the show again, I’d like to think they’ll continue staying in touch.

There are four episodes left to go in Suits LA’s debut season, though there’s no word yet on if NBC will renew it for Season 2. The good news for now is that we’re not done seeing Suits characters on the spinoff, as Rick Hoffman is on deck to reprise Louis Litt sometime in the coming weeks.

Last month, roughly five years after Suits ended its nine-season run on USA Network, Gabriel Macht reprised Harvey Specter on Suits LA, which is running on NBC. This was the first of his three guest appearances lined up, with the remaining two happening these next couple Sundays on the 2025 TV schedule. Macht has now explained why he decided to revisit Harvey for this new series, but he also shared something that has me concerned about ever seeing him on LA again.

Macht was announced to be stopping by Suits LA last November, and Aaron Korsh, who created both series, explained that when NBC wanted “one original member” to appear, Harvey “made the most sense” for the story. Now obviously that wouldn’t have been possible had Macht not agreed to do it, but upon learning from Korsh it was envisioned for Harvey to have been friends with Stephen Amell’s Ted Black back in 2010, plus the LA team willing to accomodate his schedule, hen was on board. As the actor told THR:

Suits LA’s flashback storyline takes place one year before the original Suits began, meaning Harvey Specter hasn’t met Mike Ross yet and he’s still overflowing with cockiness. But he was also looking out for the people close to him, and that included Ted Black, with whom he played on the same baseball team. So after speaking with his contacts at the NYC DA’s office, he informed Ted that there was someone in his office working for Pellegrini, the mob boss Ted was trying to put away.

Judging by the preview for this Sunday’s episode, my wish to see Harvey in the present day on Suits LA has been granted. Beyond that, it’s unclear what’s in store for the character in his next two episodes, but going off what Gabriel Macht said later in the interview, that may be the last we see of him in the spinoff. This was his response when asked if he was open to returning to the role again:

Look, I understand that Suits LA is here to follow Ted Black and his supporting cast of characters, including Lex Scott Davis’ Erica Rollins, Josh McDermitt’s Stuart Lane and Bryan Greenberg’s Rick Dodsen. That shouldn’t change, and the original Suits cast already had nine seasons to shine. I also understand that Gabriel Macht is keeping busy these days with other endeavors, like his Bear Fight Whiskey brand and creating “little short narratives.”

But at the same time, I would hope that the door doesn’t permanently shut on Harvey Specter appearing on Suits LA again. Depending on where this three-episode arc takes us with him, my fingers are crossed that someday he could reappear on the spinoff, ideally still in the present day. That’s assuming, of course, that Suits LA lasts past one season, and it does end up running for multiple seasons, I’d even be fine with Macht returning several years down the line rather than force him into Season 2.

The good news that Gabriel Macht isn’t the only Suits alum who’s going to appear on Suits LA. Rick Hoffman is set to reprise Louis Litt, and David Costabile will return as Daniel Hardman. There are six episodes left to go in this debut season, which air Sundays at 9 pm.

As the 2025 TV schedule veers towards May finales, the pressure is on network execs to make the big calls for which series will be renewed to continue on in the future, and which shows will get cancelled and not return. While surefire broadcast hits like Shifting Gears already earned a renewal after their freshman seasons, the same cannot be said just yet for NBC newcomer Suits LA, the rare spinoff whose existence stems almost entirely from its mothership’s success in streaming.

Not that the legal drama is all on its own, with NBC having only confirmed two renewals out of 15 total scripted shows. (Congrats again to comedies St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place for landing the early wins.) But let’s not kid ourselves here. It’s pretty obvious that the network is going to give renewals to all (or at least most) of its Dick Wolf-created shows, from Law & Order: SVU to the One Chicago dramas. Which makes the fates of outliers like Suits LA harder to guess.

Why Is Suits LA In Danger Of Cancellation?

For such a high-profile NBC pick-up in 2024, Suits LA has falled well below the bar of viewership and demo ratings expectations, with numbers that would better match the O.G. show's run on USA. For instance, series premieres are usually dependable high benchmarks for an audience total, and the spinoff only brought in 2.61 million pairs of eyeballs on the night of its premiere, with delayed-viewing stats adding only an additional 1.21 million, for a total of 3.82 million, and a combined demo rating of 0.3.

Not the absolute worst turnout, but definitely not as big as NBC likely hoped for during the development phase. With several other properties like The Voice and The Irrational needing further consideration due to an impending slew of primetime NBA coverage this fall, complete with the classic theme, when that mega-deal officially starts. So some shows are destined for the chopping block, simply to make room on the schedule.

Why Suits LA Will Likely Be Saved From Cancellation

According to Deadline, NBC execs are keen on keeping Suits LA around for at least one more season because of how much money the network has already dumped into the show and its large-scale marketing campaign ahead of the season's arrival. To give up on it now would be voluntarily eating a lot of costs without giving the first-year project enough time to find itself an audience.

And while that obviously does make sense, as no one wants to just readily lose millions of dollars on bad decisions, I think there's probably also some hope behind the scenes that Suits LA can not only attain and retain more of the flagship show's fanbase, but that it can also go on to achieve the same kind of gargantuan streaming success that Suits itself had when it debuted on Netflix in 2023.

As others might remember, it reigned supreme on Netflix's Top 10 list, which was a huge boost for the brand, even if cast and crew members were ruffled by the lack of meaningful residuals. So NBC may want to hold onto the spinoff until the point where Netflix swoops in with acquisition offers, which could then hopefully boost awareness of the follow-up series to the point where its linear ratings also rise. It's unclear how the show is faring on Peacock, but we'd have probably heard more about it by now if it was crushing everything else.

It likely also helps that Suits LA is a legal drama and doesn't feature a ton of massive stunt sequences or CGI effects. But with a cast of stars that includes Stephen Amell and OG vet Gabriel Macht, it's probably not the cheapest show on the network, either. But so long as the costs don't override the audience watching, hope remains for Season 2!

When Suits LA was first announced, there was no indication that the NBC spinoff airing on the 2025 TV schedule would have any connection to the original Suits beyond simply existing in the same universe. Then in November 2024, it was announced that Gabriel Macht would reprise Harvey Specter for three episodes, and now we can also expect the return of Rick Hoffman as Louis Litt and David Costabile as antagonist Daniel Hardman. So which OG Suits alum could appear on LA next? Lex Scott Davis gave me her pick when I recently chatted with her, and I’d be down for seeing this pairing.

In addition to Davis, who plays Erica Rollins, informing me about what’s ahead for Black & Associates now that the Lester Thompson trial is over, she also expressed interest in Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson stopping by Suits LA. She mentioned this while answering my question about what it means to her that these Suits actors are taking part in the spinoff she co-stars in alongside Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt and Bryan Greenberg. Davis started off with her saying:

So far the only Suits tie that’s been established in Suits LA came from Gabriel Macht’s appearance in “Batman Returns,” though he was playing Harvey Specter in 2010 as part of the show’s flashback storyline, i.e. roughly a year before Lex Scott Davis is thankful he, Rick Hoffman and David Costabile are willing to lend their talents to the spinoff. Because these actors are supporting Suits LA in this way, Suits fans get to see how these long-established characters interact with the new lineup of talent.

Let’s also keep in mind that when Suits concluded its nine-season run on USA Network in 2019, there was no indication that this world would ever be revisited. But then the series blew up on Netflix in 2023, and by February 2024, Suits LA got a pilot order. Whether or not the show will be renewed for a second season remains to be seen, but if that happens, Lex Scott Davis is crossing her fingers that Erica Rollins meets Jessica Pearson. As she continued:

Gina Torres was a series regular during Suits’ first seven seasons, having co-founded the law firm where all the main characters worked. Torres then departed the series for her own spinoff, Pearson, which saw Jessica moving to Chicago and becoming a political player in the Windy City. Pearson only lasted for one season, but like Suits and Suits LA, it can be streamed with a Peacock subscription.

Jessica Pearson was never seen on Suits during its final two seasons, so if an opportunity comes along for her to visit Los Angeles for lawyer-y reasons, I join Lex Scott Davis in hoping this happens. Seeing Jessica paired with Erica sounds like an enticing prospect and provides an additional reason for why Suits LA Season 2 should happen.

Just several days after Suits LA brought back Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter for its flashback storyline, another Suits alum has been announced for the NBC spinoff. David Costabile, who played Daniel Hardman in the original series, will reprise his role sometime later on the 2025 TV schedule. However, given the character’s history, it’s hard for me to imagine he’ll do anything besides cause trouble.

This casting update comes to us from Variety, although no specific details were provided about Hardman’s return. All we know for now is that he’ll have a “guest role” in a future episode, though it’s unclear if it will be as part of the show’s 2010-set flashbacks or in the present day. Costabile is the third Suits actor to come along for the Suits LA ride, as Rick Hoffman is also set to reprise Louis Litt for an episode separate from the two others Macht has lined up.

Introduced in Suits Season 2, Daniel Hardman was the co-founder of the Pearson Hardman law firm with Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson, whom he’d mentored. However, when it was discovered that he was embezzling money from clients to finance his affair rather than to pay for his wife’s breast cancer treatments like he claimed, he was pressured into resigning from the firm. Following his wife’s death, he returned to the firm and attempted to take full control of it. Hardman’s scheme was foiled and he was ousted once more, but he continued to be an antagonist in Seasons 4, 5 and 8.

As indicated earlier, Suits LA has been delving into the life of Stephen Amell’s Ted Black in 2010, when he was still a federal prosecutor in New York. That’s how Harvey Specter factored into “Batman Returns,” as he tipped Ted off that someone from the Pellegrini crime organization was inside Ted’s office. Although Suits gave conflicting information about when Daniel Hardman left Pearson Hardman (it was said in Season 2 to be in 2007, yet a later flashback showed him still there in 2009), my gut tells me that David Costabile’s was already out of the picture during Harvey’s meet-up with Ted.

Having said that, I find it hard to believe that Daniel Hardman will somehow factor into what’s happening in Suits LA’s present day storyline. Like Harvey and Louis, Hardman doesn’t work in entertainment law. He also primarily works in corporate law, so it’s hard for me to imagine how he would get involved with the prosecution of Ted’s client, Lester Thompson, who’s been charged with murder. So for now, I’m going to assume that we’ll be seeing Hardman in 2010, and however this comes to pass, his presence surely won’t lead to anything good.

I always enjoyed seeing Daniel Hardman’s smug face transform into a defeated expression during the Suits days, so I welcome seeing more of that in Suits LA. While we wait for his return, stream the spinoff’s first four episodes with a Peacock subscription, which you can also use to access Suits.

Suits LA is only two episodes into its run on NBC in the 2025 TV schedule, and fans of the original show are still waiting for Gabriel Macht's much-hyped arrival as Harvey Specter. The latest good news is that creator Aaron Korsh is making good on his promise that Harvey won't be the only OG character coming back, as Rick Hoffman is officially on board to return as Louis Litt. I only have one complaint about the big news.

Rick Hoffman is slated to appear in one episode of Suits LA Season 1, according to Deadline, although he could appear in more if the spinoff is renewed for a second season at NBC. Fans of Louis Litt who wanted more of the character following the original series finale are in for some kind of update on what he's been doing since 2019. Alas, the outlet also reports that Hoffman and Gabriel Macht won't be appearing in the same episode of LA, although Macht is slated for three total. No reunion for Harvey and Louis!

While it remains to be seen what brings Harvey back, creator Aaron Korsh did preview that Macht's character made the most sense to come back from a story standpoint. I'm curious about what will happen that Louis is only needed for one episode, but at least the possibility of more episodes in a second season suggests that the door will be left open after his arrival. For the sake of all fans who are tuning into the spinoff despite the lukewarm reactions to the pilot, I just hope that Rick Hoffman utters "You just got Litt up" at some point.

It's worth noting that Suits LA isn't just Suits 2.0 set in Los Angeles rather than New York City. Unlike the corporate law firm where Harvey, Louis, Mike, Donna, and the rest worked, Ted Black (Stephen Amell) is a federal prosecutor-turned-entertainment lawyer. With only two episodes airing on NBC and available streaming with a Peacock subscription at the time of writing, there's still the question of whether this Suits spinoff will last longer than Gina Torres' Pearson, which only ran for one season.

Of course, Pearson was airing on USA while Suits was still on the air, so perhaps the novelty of the franchise returning combined with a network TV audience will give LA the lasting power than Pearson never reached. Original series stars like Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman appearing as guests surely won't hurt, although fans shouldn't hold their breath for Meghan Markle as Rachel and Patrick J. Adams expressed that he was "happy" to keep Mike's ending as it was.

No date has been confirmed for when Rick Hoffman will bring Louis Litt to Suits LA, but you can find new episodes of the spinoff on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, ahead of fellow freshman series Grosse Pointe Garden Society as part of NBC's new lineup.

Suits LA is now airing amid the 2025 TV schedule, and although the premiere received mixed reactions from fans, there's still much for franchise devotees to look forward to. Most notably, franchise OG Gabriel Macht is reprising his role as Harvey Specter for a few upcoming episodes, leading many to hope that other familiar faces might pop in. I, for one, would love it if Meghan Markle cameoed as Rachel Zane, but is it strange that I mostly just want that to happen so that we get another on-set story involving Prince Harry?

Meghan Markle left Suits due to her engagement to Prince Harry. During her tenure on the USA Network drama, Harry actually visited her on the set in Toronto when he was in town for the 2017 Invictus Games. A crew member said, at the time, that the Duke kept saying how proud he was of Markle and that he was “curious about how it all works." That vibe apparently also rung true for the Duchess' new lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan (which is now available for Netflix subscription holders). A production member told People Harry served as a sweet BTS presence:

It's wonderful to hear how supportive Prince Harry is and how he’s always been in his partner's corner. Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle show, which was initially delayed due to the LA wildfires, sees the former actress hosting friends as they cook and garden together. The show offers an intimate look into Markle's domestic life. While Harry seemingly shied away from being in front of the camera and let Markle shine, it sounds like he was close by whenever his wife needed him, and that's just so lovely.

That being said, I wouldn’t necessarily care either way if Markle showed up on Suits LA as Rachel. But, if she were to do so, I'd just love the prospect of her hubby showing up to support her on set. Since the two do live in the Los Angeles area, it would be possible for the actress to briefly show up and for her husband to accompany her to set. Call me a romantic, but I just swoon over the thought of the Duke cheering on his wife amid production.

At the very least, whether or not Meghan Markle appears on LA, Prince Harry does appear during the final episode of With Love, Meghan. That moment is brief, but I'll certainly take that over no appearance from the royal at all. While it's been a struggle to get Netflix projects off the ground in some cases, I wouldn't be surprised if these two share the screen again at some point. Let's hope that if that happens, they'll produce even more cute BTS anecdotes.

On that note, let's hope the producers of Suits LA see fit to reach out to Meghan Markle about a cameo (if they haven't already). For now, though, fans can watch new episodes of the spinoff series on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC or stream them the next day with a Peacock subscription.

One of the most highly anticipated debuts finally hit the 2025 TV schedule in late February when the spinoff Suits L.A. premiered on NBC. While it seems that many OG fans of the USA hit this show sprang from were a bit confused by the pilot of Stephen Amell’s new legal drama, they do have something solid to look forward to when original Suits star Gabriel Macht brings Harvey Specter in for a three-episode arc on the series. And, it actually seems like there’s now some more good news for everyone who loved the first show.

What’s The Good News For Suits Fans Watching Suits L.A. Season 1?

Pretty much anyone who fell in love with Suits after watching it with their Netflix subscription and helping to make it the streaming hit of 2023 has wanted to see more of Mike, Rachel, Donna, Harvey and the host of other popular characters (who called the series home for nine seasons) for many months. We already know that Gabriel Macht’s Harvey has a history with Suits L.A.’s leading legal ace Ted Black, which explains the reason for his eventual return. But, it sounds like additional casting treats are on the horizon. As creator Aaron Korsh told TVLine:

Ahhhhhh. Alright, I know we all want to know just who else is going to show up as the action on Suits L.A. progresses, or to at least get some solid hints, but Korsh actually added that he hopes that no advertising for upcoming episodes will give anything away, so here’s hoping that we will all be surprised when it happens.

I find it intriguing that he mentioned he wouldn’t spoil “what level” the character was at, mostly because I’m not quite sure what that means. Is he referring to how much we’ll see this character in the new series, or how major of a presence they were on the original Suits? Both? Neither? Obviously Sarah Rafferty’s Donna seems like a decent fit to appear in some capacity because of her connection to Harvey, but who knows?

There are likely several fans who would love to see a particular character and/or their actor make an appearance, and that, of course, is Rachel Zane. As you probably know, she was played by Meghan Markle, who left the show to marry Prince Harry. There were rumors while the new series was being cast that the Duchess of Sussex could return to TV for it, but Korsh admitted to People that it might not be a good fit:

Part of what Ted and his associates specialize in is catering to a number of famous clients, so the kind of meta-guest casting which allows Markle or other Suits actors to portray themselves could, theoretically, come to fruition. However, it sounds like fans shouldn’t hold their breath for that, as Korsh feels like it “blows up the world” of the spinoff “too much.” But, if the duchess wants to return, it also makes sense that the creator will find a way to make room for her.

Regardless of who else does appear, though, it seems that OG fans will be rewarded for continuing to watch.

It’s not too much of a stretch to say that we’ve all been in a position where we put off folding laundry for so long we’re left with a giant mound of clothes, sheets, towels, and orphaned socks. What do you do in that situation? Put on a show that is perfect for background noise, of course!

Law & Order, with its 500-plus episodes, has made the laundry-folding process a little better for decades now thanks to its grisly murders, captivating courtroom sequences, and too many “Jack McCoy” moments to count. This isn’t a knock on the show, but you don’t even really have to pay attention all that much to know what’s going on.

How It's Made (2001 - 2019)

Okay, you might get distracted by the manufacturing processes for things like Crayons, crackers, pillows, bowling balls, and thousands of other items featured on this long-running educational program, but How It’s Made makes for some great background noise. The soothing narration, that catchy music, and endless shots of everyday items being made make this a perfect option.

Home Improvement (1991 - 1999)

Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor (Tim Allen) probably never folded a shirt in his life (at least not properly), but that doesn’t mean Home Improvement is a great option for the laundry-folding machine in all of us. If you’re folding one basket, or two baskets, or trying to save your room from the pile that never goes away, this beloved ‘90s TV show will help you pass the time.

The Simpsons (1989 - Present)

With countless characters we love to hate, all kinds of zany situations, and more than 700 episodes to choose from, The Simpsons is one of those shows you can have on in the background in any situation. So, it’s not all surprising that this is a great option for laundry day.

The West Wing (1999 - 2006)

Considered one of the “peak TV era” shows, The West Wing was a staple of network television in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. That said, it’s not hard to imagine that at least a few people have gone through much of the Bartlet Administration while folding and pressing their laundry.

Friends (1994 - 2004)

When you have an episode with a title like“ The One with the East German Laundry Detergent,” you know Friends is going to be a great show to have on while folding your clothes. The landmark sitcom is pretty much the TV equivalent of a warm blanket, so it makes total sense.

Unsolved Mysteries (1987 - Present)

One of the greatest true crime shows to ever hit the small screen, Unsolved Mysteries has been there for many of us for years. First, the classic episodes hosted by Robert Stack helped us pass the time and eat snacks after school. Now, those very same episodes (as well as the Netflix revival) are there for… laundry. Where all these clothes come from is the real unsolved mystery in households around the country.

Scrubs (2001 - 2010)

Bill Lawrence’s Scrubs is one of the best comedies set in a hospital and one of the best medical shows of all time. That said, it’s also a perfect show to watch while folding laundry. Well, unless you experience one of J.D.’s elaborate daydreams while sorting socks. Maybe that explains where those missing socks have gone.

Cheers (1982 - 1993)

No judging here, but some of us have a certain stack of clothes that are pretty much like Norm from Cheers at this point. You know that the laundry will be there tomorrow like it was there today and yesterday (and the day before that).

Planet Earth (2006)

Planet Earth is one of those shows that’s perfect for just about any task around the house, especially with David Attenborough’s comforting narration perfectly explaining everything on the screen. And who knows, maybe you’ll go through the entire docuseries and its various sequels and spinoffs by the time you finish.

Burn Notice (2007 - 2013)

Aziz Ansari’s cousin Harris loves Burn Notice, but does he love watching the USA Network original show while folding his clothes? We’re kind of afraid to ask. Regardless, this spy series starring Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, and Bruce Campbell is one of those shows that feels tailor-made for the mindless task of laundry sorting.

Trailer Park Boys (2001 - 2007; 2014 - 2018)

Trailer Park Boys probably isn’t the first show that comes to mind when you’re trying to be productive, but this Canadian comedy series about the residents of Sunnyvale Trailer Park is the very definition of mindless, crude entertainment. Sure, you won’t want the kids around with the show’s profanity, but this would be great for a late-night laundry session.

30 Rock (2006 - 2013)

With seven seasons and nearly 140 episodes to watch, 30 Rock has more than enough laughs and crazy moments to get you through even the biggest of laundry piles. With its cast of characters working on the fictional TGS sketch comedy series, this beloved NBC comedy will do the trick.

Full House (1987 - 1995)

What would Danny Tanner do? Well, he probably wouldn’t let his laundry situation get out of hand, despite having an ever-growing group of roommates. All jokes aside about the Full House patriarch’s obsession with cleanliness and order, this long-running sitcom has gotten millions of people through laundry baskets over the years. Join in on the fun.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (2005 - Present)

Now, there’s a chance you get distracted by all those absurd It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia side characters (or even the main cast), but this FX comedy series is peak-laundry folding material. Just make sure you don’t come up with some ridiculous scheme to hide the clothes or pass the task on to someone else.

The Office (2005 - 2013)

Though the series did “jump the shark” near the end, The Office is still one of the best American sitcoms ever made. With a total of 201 episodes and thousands of hilarious and iconic jokes, there’s more than enough to keep you entertained while you work your way through that basket of socks that’s been taunting you for years.

Pawn Stars (2009 - Present)

With more than 650 episodes, all kinds of remarkable and odd pieces of memorabilia and historical artifacts, Pawn Stars has been one of the most popular shows on the History Channel for years now. And while we would love to be able to say “I know a guy” who can handle all these clothes, Rick Harrison and company at Gold & Silver Pawn Shop will help make the folding process a little more entertaining.

American Pickers (2010 - Present)

Like a lot of other great History Channel shows, American Pickers is one of those series perfect for background noise. You don’t really have to follow along to the finer points of the reality program, which is perfect when you’re about halfway through a load of clothes that you really need to finish.

Seinfeld (1989 - 1998)

Who would have thought that a show about nothing would be perfect for laundry? Well, that’s the case for Seinfeld. Sure, you’re probably going to get distracted, put mismatched socks together, or accidentally merge the “keep” and “give away” stacks on the foot of the bed, but it’s worth it.

Parks And Recreation (2009 - 2015)

Though it’s unlikely that Ron Swanson would be too fond of spending hours folding clothes, Parks and Recreation is a show that is perfect for the task. Sure, you may be stuck in a pit of clothes that were washed weeks ago before you finally pull yourself out, but it’s all about the journey.

Family Guy (1999 - Present)

Family Guy, one of the best-animated series of the 21st century, is also a great show to have on in the background while doing just about anything. This includes doing laundry. Sure, there are things we’d rather be doing than folding clothes, but this long-running Fox show certainly makes the task less mind-numbing.

Gilmore Girls (2000 - 2007)

Lorelai and Rory Gilmore guiding us through the ups and downs of small-town life is a great way to make doing laundry a lot more fun, or at least more melodramatic. With seven seasons, 153 episodes, and so many romances to explore, this is definitely a great option for folks who’ve put on laundry for like two months.

The UnXplained (2019 - Present)

How did this stack of clothes get so big? Is this clean, cleanish, or dirty? Does William Shatner fold his own clothes? These are questions with no answers, but The UnXplained will distract you from those mysteries while you search for that missing sock or No Country for Old Man bootleg t-shirt that disappeared in the wash.

Suits (2011 - 2019)

From 2011 to 2019, few shows reached the heights experienced by Suits. This USA Network drama about the high-stakes world of corporate law introduced viewers to all kinds of characters and intense situations along the way. And while few, if any, of those managing partners and ladder-climbing associates did their own laundry, they can help you do yours.

The X Files (1993 - 2002; 2016 - 2018)

A show that made it more than 10 seasons, The X Files was one of the most well-known and watched series of the ‘90s. If you want to mix things up with the laundry and imagine a world in which aliens and other paranormal creatures appear (and possibly help fold those fitted sheets), this landmark sci-fi show will do the trick.

The Great British Baking Show (2014 - Present)

The Great British Baking Show, or The Great British Bake Off as it’s known in its native United Kingdom, is one of the most delicious, hilarious, and watchable cooking shows to ever grace the small screen. While we typically prefer seeing these delectable creations (or disasters) in all their glory, maybe folding clothes will distract and prevent you from mindlessly eating as you watch.

Modern Family (2009 - 2020)

There’s nothing dysfunctional about the Dunphy and Pritchett families from Modern Family, right? Well, maybe a little. This long-running sitcom is one the best options when you’re trying to fold clothes, or really do anything around the house. You’ll be so fixated by Phil coming up with some scheme, Cameron and Mitchell having a meltdown, or Jay being over it all that you’ll forget you’re doing laundry.

Somebody Feed Phil (2018 - Present)

Somebody Feed Phil, a show that follows Everybody Loves Raymond co-creator Phil Rosenthal as he travels the globe to eat anything and everything in his field of view. With so many seasons, so many culinary explorations, and some hilarious moments involving a man loving food way too much, there’s a lot to enjoy.

House (2004 - 2012)

House is one of those shows you can start watching halfway through an episode and still get a lot of enjoyment out of it. One of the best medical dramas of the 21st century, this show starring Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House will allow you to solve all sorts of medical problems and mysteries as you fold your kids' clothes that never really seem to get clean.

Grey's Anatomy (2005 - Present)

Since its debut in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy has combined elements of the medical drama genre with romance and sometimes action to create an experience like no other. If you’re looking for hundreds of hours of TV to help make the laundry go from a mound of madness to a stack of clothes you’ll soon forget to put away, this is the stuff.

MTV True Life (1998 - 2017)

MTV True Life was a long-running documentary series that chronicled pretty much every aspect of life for teenagers, adults, and everyone else. With dozens of episodes about everything from wrestling to odd obsessions, you’ll have a lot of variety when you’re folding the sheets.

How I Met Your Mother (2005 - 2014)

How I Met Your Mother has nine seasons of romance, bromance, chaos, and more twists and turns than anyone can count. Suits LA – arguably one of the most anticipated titles on the 2025 TV schedule – made its debut on NBC this past Sunday. Its premiere marked the beginning of a new chapter in the fictional universe created by Aaron Korsh. Leading up to the first episode, there was chatter amongst OG fans on social media regarding how the legal drama might compare to its beloved predecessor. Well, now that they’ve seen the pilot, they’re sharing thoughts, and a lot of them are saying the same thing when it comes to the narrative.

The spinoff series (streamable with a Peacock subscription) centers on Ted Black (Stephen Amell), a former New York-based federal prosecutor who now helps run a law firm in Los Angeles. Black’s professional life is ultimately upended, though, when his longtime partner and friend, Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt) uses a merger to cut him out of the business. On paper, that sounds interesting enough, but a number of fans who later reacted via social media argue that the story isn’t set up effectively. Check out what one person had to say:

As noted by the fan above and echoed by others, the show seems to thrust viewers smack dab in the middle of massive storylines in just the first episode. That seems to have resulted in a somewhat disorienting pilot, as another person shared the following thought:

In just its first episode, Suits LA does indeed dive deep into the inner workings of its characters. Ted Black’s backstory, in particular, is explored in great depth, as there’s a flashback nightmare to his last case in New York, which ended in disaster. Viewers are also given a taste of Black’s complicated relationship with his father, who may have something to do with the death of Ted’s brother, Eddie. This level of familial focus in the inaugural episode seemed to be disorienting for this next fan:

The original Suits did indeed tackle the complicated personal relationships that characters like Harvey Specter, Rachel Zane and more were entangled in. However, the USA Network arguably began in a more traditional way narrative-wise, compared to its successor. Ironically, before the LA premiere there was much “Internet commentary” about the show being too similar to its predecessor. But, to hear this other viewer talk, they’re very different:

We must remember, of course, that LA is only one episode into its run, so it's certainly possible that the edges will be smoothened out a bit as time goes on. Fans of the OG show also do have some elements to look forward to, including the return of Gabriel Macht’s Harvey. When discussing the reason for Specter’s return, Aaron Korsh explained that NBC wanted at least one member of the original Suits cast to appear on the show.

Of course, guest stars and connective tissue alone can’t save a series. Hopefully, this new TV offering will find its footing as time goes on. It may be challenging to win over longtime fans of the legal-based franchise, but it’s definitely not impossible for the spinoff to rebound following a first episode that could’ve been a bit more refined.

Following Suits’ record-breaking resurgence on Netflix in 2023, the USA Network legal drama is getting another spinoff, premiering this weekend on the 2025 TV schedule on NBC. Suits LA will, of course, take place in Los Angeles, set at an entertainment law firm led by Stephen Amell’s Ted Black. Although set in a different city from the original series, Suits LA will be bringing back Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter for a multi-episode arc. With him coming back, Suits creator Aaron Korsh got real about Meghan Markle’s possible return.

Before becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Markle starred on Suits as paralegal-turned-associate Rachel Zane on the first seven seasons. Since she’s starting to slowly come back into the TV fold with her and Prince Harry’s deal with Netflix, as well as her own Netflix series, many have been hoping she’d make a return to acting as well. After rumors that she’d be returning to the Suits spinoff last year, Korsh told People that they have thought about it:

It would definitely be fun if Markle were to cameo on Suits LA, especially since it would mark her return to acting, however brief it may be. Whether she’d be playing herself or Rachel Zane, it would be pretty great, but it might be a little hard to make it happen. The hope is still there, though, and it’s always possible. Whatever the case may be, Korsh says the door is always open for her to make an appearance, and I desperately need it to happen:

The door is open for Markle to return, so who knows what could happen in the future? Suits LA was able to bring back Macht, who hadn’t acted since Suits ended. And while it might be a little harder for Markle to return, we shouldn't rule it out unless she debunks the idea. That being said, if she were to return, it would be exciting, and Korsh can’t stop thinking about how things would go if she were to cameo as herself:

With Suits LA set at an entertainment law firm, there is no telling what real and fictional industry players will be walking through the door. The possibilities are endless and it wouldn’t be surprising if Gabriel Macht isn’t the only Suits star to make an appearance. Suits LA hasn’t even premiered yet, so it might be a while until anyone else comes down to join the fun.

After Suits’ record-breaking resurgence on Netflix, the series is making another comeback with its upcoming spinoff Suits L.A., premiering soon on the 2025 TV schedule. The series will take things to the West Coast, this time at an entertainment law firm in Los Angeles led by Stephen Amell’s Ted Black. Although the show is different from its parent series, with new characters and new storylines, there are still plenty of fans online who think the two are pretty similar by just seeing the promos, and Amell is addressing the commentary.

Suits L.A. doesn’t premiere until this Sunday on NBC, so all that fans have gotten to know about the show is from descriptions, promos, and brief sneak peeks. But it’s enough that they’ve been comparing the new drama to USA Network’s legal series. While speaking with The Los Angeles Times, Amell discussed what fans have been saying and their opinions on the new show, saying that people should wait until it actually airs to say something:

It’s not unusual for people to have opinions and make assumptions for shows and movies before they premiere. And when it comes to Suits L.A., they already have something to compare it to, and even though they really only have promos, it unfortunately has been enough to go off of.

From Stephen Amell's description, though, the promos are only just the beginning, and fans will want to tune in to see just how different Suits L.A. is. Of course, there will probably be some similarities, but it will be exciting to see how the spinoff is its own show. And creator Aaron Korsh can vouch for both shows, saying,

It’s hard to come up with an opinion for a show that hasn’t even premiered yet, and since both Stephen Amell and Aaron Korsh are praising Suits L.A. for how different it is, I'm left thinking it must be true. These characters are completely new, played by new actors at a different law firm on the other side of the country. Even though fans will probably still point out some similarities at first, it might just take a bit for Suits L.A. to really come into its own.

That being said, there will be one striking similarity at one point in the first season of Suits L.A. and that will be Harvey Specter. Gabriel Macht will be returning to portray the powerful attorney for multiple episodes, and he reportedly has a previous history with Amell’s Ted Black. Not too much has been revealed about his upcoming appearance, but it will be exciting to see him return.

People may just want to wait until Suits L.A. premieres on Sunday, February 23 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC before giving their opinions. But it should be interesting to see how it compares to Suits, which people can watch with a Netflix subscription and Peacock subscription to prepare themselves.

And, star Gina Torres revealed an obstacle that’s come from the show’s recent revival in popularity.

What Did Suits’ Gina Torres Say About There Being A Challenge That’s Come From Its Resurgence?

It can be hard to get a show on the air and have it run for nine seasons, so people who are lucky enough to have that experience probably don’t even consider the possibility of said TV series getting a second shot at making an impact on viewers. But, that’s exactly what happened when Suits landed on Netflix and captured the TV-loving public like never before. In fact, the renewed success has spawned a rewatch podcast with Adams and Rafferty, and an upcoming spinoff, Suits L.A., starring Stephen Amell.

Gina Torres, who portrayed everyone’s favorite legal boss-lady Jessica Pearson, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about the show’s new popularity and what it’s meant for her, saying:

While other Suits cast members like Rafferty had previously admitted to being “gobsmacked” by the drama’s suddenly massive popularity, and even the Duchess of Sussex eventually said it was “wild,” no one has talked much about a very understandable challenge with having an old show of yours now having soooooo many new fans: you become more recognizable than ever.

As the actress (who recently finished her emotional run as paramedic captain Tommy Vega on 9-1-1: Lone Star) said, Suits was likely incredibly “aspirational” for a lot of people, with pretty much the whole cast always being unbelievably smart, streetwise, cunning, funny, and just all around “well-dressed” and “good-looking” literally all the time, which mostly never happens as seemingly easily in real life as it did for Harvey, Rachel, Jessica, Mike, and Donna.

When I tuned into Elsbeth’s first episode on the 2025 TV schedule, I was ready to see Eric McCormack as a bag guy, I was not expecting a Meghan Markle joke. However, it was actually a great little quip from Wendell Pierce’s Captain Wagner, and there’s a whole history involving him and the Duchess of Sussex that makes all this make perfect sense.

OK, here's what was going on when this Royal Family joke was made. As we were learning more about the darker side of Elsbeth’s past during a tense conversation between her and Kaya, Wagner walked in with a new case. He explained that a man had died after being seen at a very fancy spa, and he needed the lawyer-turned-crime solver to look into it. Here’s how that back and forth went:

Wagner: In the meantime, I need you on a case. A young man, Cole Campbell, was found deceased on the highway. His car ran off the road.

In response to that question, Wagner talked up how fancy this spa was, noting that celebrities and royals travel to it. He also quipped about Meghan Markle and rumors that she was there too, saying:

It’s always a bit jarring when one of the Royals is name-dropped in a fictional TV show. They’re a hot topic of conversation, and jokes about them can be taken in all sorts of ways. However, this joke was totally harmless and in defense of the Duchess of Sussex. It also made a lot of sense considering Wendell Pierce’s relationship with her in real life.

This Joke Makes Sense Because Of Wendell Pierce And Meghan Markle’s Relationship

For those who might not know, Meghan Markle and Wendell Pierce go way back. Between 2013 and 2019, the Elsbeth actor starred alongside the royal in Suits. He actually played Robert Zane, the father of Markle’s Rachel Zane, in 36 episodes of the beloved lawyer drama.

Since being part of the Suits cast, Pierce has also supported his on-screen daughter consistently. Back in 2018, the Wagner actor gave Markle’s real father advice after Thomas Markle publicly explained that he was upset about his daughter’s wedding. The performer said, “If you love your daughter, just love your daughter.”

Along with that, in 2021, Markle’s Suits dad shared his feelings about her Oprah interview and a viral interview he did, clarifying that he’s “supported Meghan in the press” for a long time.

Even over the last year, The Wire star has opened up about being asked about the Duchess often, making it clear as day that he thinks Markle is “wonderful” and “the nicest person ever.” He also noted that he’d love to see her performing again.

I would too, especially if it was via Elsbeth, and we could see the actors together on screen again.

Overall, understanding Pierce’s consistent support of Markle and his professional past with her makes this seemingly surprising Elsbeth joke make sense. Not only was it a funny quip, but it also carries a deeper meaning that leans into the actor’s love for his on-screen daughter.

Suits may have ended after a nine-season run on USA Network in 2019, but the TV show’s immense popularity on Netflix in 2023 has led to this world being expanded for the 2025 TV schedule. The spinoff Suits: L.A. is a month away from premiering on NBC (with episodes becoming available to stream afterwards with a Peacock subscription), and it was announced last November that original Suits star Gabriel Macht will reprise Harvey Specter in a three-episode stint. Suits and Suits: L.A. creator Aaron Korsh has now shared why Harvey will be appearing in the latter series, and it makes sense.

This stemmed from a fan who’d asked Korsh if Gina Torres will also reprise Jessica Pearson on Suits: L.A., to which the creative said that he’s “open to everything but we do want to launch these characters on this show.”When another fan then asked why Harvey was specifically selected as the Suits character to return and if this says something about how Korsh looks at the previous show, he responded on X:

Basically, Aaron Korsh and the Suits: L.A. writing team needed to figure out a way to include one Suits alum on NBC’s request, and Harvey felt like the best choice. As Korsh said, he originally envisioned Suits: L.A. to be its own self-contained TV show rather than a spinoff to a basic cable hit, but once it evolved into what we’re getting in just a few weeks time, he realized Harvey was the best choice to be organically mixed into the story. Fortunately, we already have an idea of how this is being accomplished thanks to the Suits: L.A. trailer that premiered last week.

At the end of the trailer, lead protagonist Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell, is speaking with Troy Winbrush’s character Kevin, who lifts up a picture showing Ted with Harvey and two other guys as they’re taking a break from playing baseball. Kevin says he never liked Harvey and thought he was the only person who was cockier than Ted, which is exactly the reason Ted liked him so much. So Ted and Harvey go way back, although given how Gabriel Macht is nearly 10 years older than Amell, I would find it hard to believe that these characters went to law school together.

It’s unclear when Gabriel Macht will first appear on Suits: L.A., but I’m looking forward to learning how Harvey Specter and Ted Black are specifically connected. Stephen Amell is joined in the spinoff’s main cast by Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Bryan Greenberg. The other recurring/guest actors include Victoria Justice, Alice Lee, Rachelle Goulding, Anita Ghanizada, Maggie Grace, Matt Letscher, Sofia Pernas, Carson A. Egan and the late John Amos in his last onscreen appearance. Aaron Korsh wrote the pilot and Victoria Mahoney directed it.

Suits: L.A. premieres Sunday, February 23 on NBC. As mentioned earlier, Suits can be found on Netflix, as well as Peacock. However, it’s been made clear that you won’t need to have seen Suits in order to follow along with what happens in Suits: L.A.

New spinoff Suits: LA will be premiering on the 2025 TV schedule on NBC, bringing new characters and plots to the Suits universe and even bringing back Harvey Specter himself. Since Gabriel Macht is briefly returning and other cast members have expressed interest in potentially returning, could there be a return of the OG Suits in movie form?

Suits ran for nine seasons, from 2011 to 2019, and as its streaming resurgence proved, fans certainly seem to want more. However, just because fans want it doesn’t necessarily mean it should or will happen, at least with another fully episodic season. Creator Aaron Korsh gave Entertainment Weekly a silver lining of hope about the flagship characters, while saying it's still very, very early in the process. As he pu tit:

Suits ended with Harvey and Donna getting married and deciding to move to Seattle to work with Mike and Rachel. And there’s really no better ending for them, so it’s hard to imagine how a new season would go, how long it would last, and where it would be set. But with a movie, fans could catch up with their favorite characters for a more limited span to check in, which would be just enough to keep fans satisfied.

That being said, even though fans would probably much rather have a Season 10 so they are with their favorite characters for much longer, it might not be plausible, which is why Suits: LA is coming out. Korsh shared his take on doing a new show as opposed to another season, and the possibilities are endless when it comes to expanding the Suits universe.

Suits: LA will be taking place in the City of Angels, of course, at an entertainment law firm, starring a new crop of lawyers played by Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg. It should be fun to see their new characters and fall in love with them, and see who else from the original show has the possibility of showing up.

Since it seems like another season of the original Suits won’t be happening, people will have to settle with the new series. At the very least, a movie could still happen, but there’s no telling who it would include and what it would center on if it eventually happens in the future.

Suits is streaming on Netflix and with a Peacock subscription, so fans can always rewatch all nine seasons whenever they want. Plus, Suits: LA will be hitting NBC starting on February 23, which is certainly better than nothing.

So, would Macht’s co-star, Patrick J. Adams, be willing to step into the shoes of Mike Ross again, as well? He answered that question recently, and I totally agree with where he’s coming from.

What Did Patrick J. Adams Recently Say About Playing Mike Ross On Suits L.A.?

One of the things that’s been lovely to hear since the 2023 mega-resurgence of Suits is that everyone who starred on the series seemed to have had a great time working on it and be not just incredibly happy that more people have found the nine-season show (which wrapped in 2019) but glad that creator Aaron Korsh has been able to ride that wave and bring Suits L.A. to NBC soon. Patrick J. Adams (who even started a Suits rewatch podcast with another co-star, Sarah Rafferty) was asked about possibly returning to the world on-screen during an interview with Collider, and said:

Alright, fans! Before you become too despondent over the fact that Adams didn’t give an all-out, enthusiastic YES when it comes to showing us the present day Mike, please note that this isn’t a NO, either.

And, I completely understand where he’s coming from here. He’s got a character and arc in Mike that millions of people already adore to the point where they enjoy rewatching his time as an illegal lawyer over and over again. Any decision to continue his story is a pretty major one, so there’s no point in bringing him back unless it really “feels like the right fit.”

Also, let’s not forget that while Macht is reprising his role, he did confirm that he “needed time away” from Harvey because he’d started to become too much like the somewhat ruthless attorney in real life. So, I also understand the need to stay away so that Adams can do other things professionally.

The actor continued, and noted that his character (who was eventually married to Meghan Markle’s Rachel Zane) wasn’t exactly left hanging by a sudden and unplanned ending, with Mike and Rachel deciding to leave New York to work at a firm in Seattle after their Season 7 wedding. He added:

I can bet that all of the very eager Suits fans who are waiting for the new series to debut feel the same way, and hopefully part of that experience can include at least a little Mike Ross at some point down the line.

Suits Season 7 was a major turning point for the legal drama that originally aired on USA Network and became more popular than ever when it blew up on Netflix last year. In addition to Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson only making sporadic appearances after moving to Chicago in Season 6 for her short-lived spinoff, by the end of the season, Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle both departed as series regulars. Adams’ exit was an especially big deal since his character, Mike Ross, was Suits’ co-lead with Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter, and the actor has now opened up about the personal circumstances that resulted in him leaving the show.

While appearing on Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Adams acknowledged that Markle departing Suits to officially join the Royal Family paved the way for him to do the same, which is something he didn’t regret, as he also wanted to be closer to his longtime girlfriend and soon-to-be-wife Troian Bellisaro rather than continue their long distance relationship. That said, Adams was also dealing with his own struggles that factored into his decision, saying:

Patrick J. Adams was hardly an unknown prior to Suits, as he appeared opposite Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn in the 2003 comedy Old School, and made guest guest appearances on shows like Friday Night Lights, Lost and NCIS. But Suits unquestionably gave him a major professional boost, with the show following along with Mike Ross, a college dropout with an eidetic memory, whom Harvey Specter to be an associate for his law firm, all while keeping it a secret that Mike never graduated from Harvard.

But by the time Season 7 rolled around, Adams was overwhelmed with his mental health and drinking issues, and he continued to grapple with them ever after leaving the series, which in turn affected how he raised his daughter Aurora, who was born in 2018. He continued:

Clearly Adams is in a much better headspace now compared to back then, and leaving Suits helped get him there. It is important to mention, though, that the actor didn’t stay gone from the series too long, as he recurred during Season 9. With Gabriel Macht said to reprise Harvey Specter in the upcoming spinoff Suits L.A., maybe there’s a possibility that Adams could bring Mike Ross back to life on that show too, which premieres February 25 on the 2025 TV schedule.

Overall, it’s exciting to know that Harvey is set to return following the final season of the original show, which wrapped after nine seasons on USA Network in 2019. It also makes sense to have the character show up, as it’s a solid way to maintain continuity between the two shows.

Surely, people also took notice of the ominous tease suggested by the caption. The actor mentioned “When an old friend is in need…it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right.” That line could likely be interpreted in a myriad of ways, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it keeps the rumor mill churning for a while. At the very least, though, it seems that the New York-based Specter could possibly be called to Los Angeles to provide some assistance.

This big news comes on the heels of Gabriel Macht recalling his need for time away from his famous character following the OG series' conclusion. He also suggested that he had no interest in playing the role again anytime soon. Now, in light of Macht’s L.A. casting, I can’t help but wonder whether his comments were meant to be an intentional misdirect or if he simply had a change of heart.

Essentially birthed by its parent show's show's Netflix boom in 2023, Suits L.A.'s first look was revealed this past summer, as the pilot was filmed in the spring. At the time, fans were treated to a still of Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black. Production on the first season just kicked off this week, with the clean-shaven Amell sharing some behind-the-scenes tidbits for fans. What we know about the show thus far is that it’ll focus on Ted, who after recently reinventing himself is seeking to become a power player within the world of Los Angeles-based law. Time will tell if Mike, Donna Paulsen (who married Harvey) and more show up but, as for right now, let’s be happy that at least one franchise vet is returning.

With the 2024 TV schedule winding down, it’s time to look ahead to the 2025 TV schedule, which includes the brand new Suits series. It was announced last year that creator Aaron Korsh was developing a new series in the same universe of the USA Network legal drama after it saw a massive resurgence on Netflix. The upcoming Suits: L.A. spinoff starring Stephen Amell was officially ordered by NBC earlier this year. The Arrow alum kicked off filming with a clean-shaven face, and I'm honestly missing his beard.

Amell took to his Instagram this week to share that Day 1 of Suits: L.A. commenced, and it's hard to take notice of the star's look. Since he hadn't filmed anything in recent months, he’d been growing out his facial hair, as one sometimes does during hiatus. While I hoped that he would be able to keep his look for the new Suits series, his video confirms otherwise. as the actor's face was fresh. For clarity, this isn't the first time the Heels alum has had to shave his beard or mustache this year, since he had to have cleanshaven look for the pilot of Suits: L.A. Yet he managed to grow at least some of his facial hair back afterward. It was expected that he’d have to shave again but, now that he’s actually done it, it’s making me miss the beard.

I suppose that, if anything, any fan like myself who's pining for Stephen Amell's whiskers should just be happy that filming on his new show is finally underway. Plus, he's been sharing some sweet BTS tidbits for fans on social media:

A first look at Suits: L.A. was released over the summer, with Stephen Amell appearing as Ted Black, a former New York federal prosecutor. In the series, Ted “has reinvented himself, representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and to survive, he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.” It sounds like Black's journey could be quite eventful not unlike that of Harvey Specter from the OG show.

The upcoming spinoff isn’t the only series that Stephen Amell is working on either. It was reported in October that he was cast in the upcoming crime drama Underbelly, which is set in the 1000 Islands region. The six-part series will premiere on Canada’s streaming service Crave, and Amell also serves as an executive producer. It seems like he is staying busy ever and, amid that, I hope Amell's beard is grown out again sometime in the future.

As for Suits: L.A., a premiere date has not been announced but, with filming starting now, one would hope that it'll arrive during the early part of the new year. Let's hope that it's worth the wait.

Suits has had quite the comeback in the last couple of years, breaking streaming records on Netflix while also securing an official spin-off titled Suits: LA, which is set to star Arrow’s Stephen Amell. Old and new fans of the franchise have gotten to see some of their favorite OG cast members reunite amid this Suits resurgence via Super Bowl commercials and a watch-a-long podcast. Now, with all this renewed interest, it begs the question: Will we see original Suits characters return to the franchise? Well, Harvey Specter himself has some answers.

In an interview with E! News, Gabriel Macht, who played lawyer Harvey Specter for the full run of the network drama, revealed he currently has no interest in putting the suit back on. Unlike his co-star Patrick J. Adams, who would love to return when the time is right, the Love & Other Drugs actor says he "needs some time away" from Harvey, as he started to see too much of the character in himself:

The early days of Suits revealed a very flawed character in Harvey. Someone who treated Louis like dirt, didn’t appreciate Donna enough and only cared about his individual wins. A lot of his selfish decisions came back to bite him in the butt, including hiring Mike Ross as a fake attorney. Though it gave Mike a chance to fulfill his dreams of becoming a lawyer, it opened the door to the world of corporate law and shady business deals -- the very world of power that had shaped Harvey’s egotistical character in the first place.

For someone who is not at all like Specter, it must have been a challenge to play him at points. Certain moments, like when he would yell at Donna in frustration, come to mind, especially given he’s good friends with Sarah Rafferty in real life. When you spend half your time in that suit though, behavior like that becomes second nature according to Macht:

Being a main cast member, reacting as Harvey would likely became instinctive, and some of those instinctual behaviors rubbed off on the Macht. We’ve seen this before. In case you’ve forgotten, although I certainly haven’t, Austin Butler spoke with his Elvis accent for a good year and a half following his portrayal of the Rock and Roll legend, saying he was unable to drop it.

As for where Harvey came from, the high-powered New York City lawyer did not start out at Pearson Hardman where we see the show take place. Mike Ross was written to be Harvey’s boy genius and eventual partner in crime. However, despite lying about who he is, Ross was written to hold a moral standard that Harvey had since lost. Oftentimes he was the one to push back on his boss’ questionable choices. I think part of that character is meant to remind Harvey of his early days as a lawyer in the DA's office.

While we never see Harvey fully shake his self-centered behavior, there is a lot of character growth by the series finale, including parts of Harvey where Macht finds himself within the character, as he said:

And it’s true, we do learn to love Harvey and all his flaws. By the end of the series, he’s been through so much, and as a viewer, you just want him to be able to find peace and happiness. All that being said, I don’t blame Macht for taking a permanent step back, and I wonder what his advice would be for the actors coming in to fill those polished designer shoes.

Regardless, I will be putting my Peacock subscription to good use when NBC finally drops this highly anticipated spin-off series, Suits: LA. The OG cast will always hold a special place in my heart though, including Harvey Specter. No one does it quite like him, and you can relive all the drama of Suits anytime with a Netflix subscription.

Between this launch and official casting decisions for Suits: LA, TV Insider did everyone a favor and asked the boy genius for his thoughts on the spinoff:

I could not be happier with the answer, especially since the Plan B star’s exit from the lawyer drama seemed so abrupt to me. Maybe the nostalgia of rewatching the show with his former co-star will be the convincing factor.

Honestly, I kind of love it when the cast members of my favorite shows love their former gigs as much as I do. Furthermore, this podcast goes to show Adams' and Rafferty's continued love and interest in the Suits world, so I believe it when the Lockerbie actor says he would be interested in reprising his role as Mike.

Given original creator Aaron Korsh is leading this new era of Suits, I’d like to think he’d welcome back these iconic characters with open arms. Besides, it seems like Adams has put it on his radar, so I hope he’s already got some ideas on how to write the OG characters in.

The real question is, what’s Mike without his partner in crime (literally)? While Gabriel Macht has not outright confirmed he would be interested in returning as the suave yet slightly egotistical Harvey Specter (we love Harvey and his character growth though), a recent team-up with the kid for a T-mobile commercial suggests he might be up for it. Seeing the iconic dynamic duo engaging in shenanigans again was enough for me to hope for at least a cameo in Suits: LA, and I can only hope the Because I Said So actor feels the same way.

As for Mike’s better half (romantically speaking), we most likely would not see the return of Meghan Markle as the smart and beautiful Rachel Zane, given she’s a Duchess now.

However, one can hope given that the duchess has not given a straight answer on the matter, and has shown recent interest in returning to acting. Once again, all I want is just one cameo, the fans would absolutely lose their minds. I’m sure Meghan would love to be reunited with her Suits family, especially given they all got invites to her royal wedding back in 2018.

Suits: LA is not the first spin-off to come out of the franchise. Right around Season 8, Gina Torres’ character Jessica Pearson left the New York Office to get more than just her name on the wall, but her name on her own show. Pearson only ran for a season, but it showed that in the world of high-powered lawyers, no one’s story is ever done. Patrick J. Adams seems to think so as well, hinting that maybe he would be down for more than a cameo on Suits: LA:

If all goes well, could another spin-off in the Suits universe be on the horizon? Maybe Mike Ross finally went to law school and we'll see him get the gang back together under the firm Ross-Paulsen-Pearson-Specter-Litt.

While I will be tuning into the spinoff, set for release sometime in the next couple of years, in my opinion, no one could ever create the kind of chemistry the original cast had. It takes more than good-looking people and similar writing to recreate that magic. So, while I’m sure the OG cast has many projects lined up, I’m gonna need them to make this Suits spin-off a priority.

Until then, I think it’s time I use my Netflix subscription to rewatch alongside Mike and Donna.

When you think of shows like Suits and NCIS, you’d think that they don’t really have anything in common. One was a legal drama on USA Network that blew up on streaming, the other one is a procedural on CBS that spawned a whole franchise that is still going strong after 1,000 episodes for over 20 years. However, one fan pointed out how the two shows, as well as the British Royal Family, are all connected, and my mind is completely blown.

Reddit user No_Adhesiveness4890 started a new thread on the NCIS subreddit, titled "Today I learned," revealing they learned that Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross on Suits, is married to Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario. Then they went down the rabbit hole to share that NCIS and Suits are connected in a way since Bellisario is the daughter of NCIS creator Don Bellisario. So the user said that you can link Don to the late Queen of England because Adams starred in Suits alongside Meghan Markle, who is married to Prince Harry.

Additionally, Troian is the step-sister of longtime NCIS star Sean Murray, and the user concluded with “My mind is just blown knowing that Mike from suits goes to Holiday dinners with McGee.” To break it down a bit more, Donald P. Bellisario married Murray’s mother, Vivienne, back in 1998, hence Murray and Troian being step-siblings. Troian married Adams in 2016, and Adams starred on Suits for the first seven seasons with Markle. The couple even attended the Royal Wedding between Markle and Prince Harry in 2018, along with the rest of the Suits cast.

Even though I already knew of Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario’s relationship, as well as her and Sean Murray being step-siblings, I never actually connected it all that way. It truly is mind-blowing, but funny how it all works out. Bellisario and Adams have actually both guest-starred on NCIS in the past as well, which those with a Paramount+ subscription can watch, making the whole connections thing even better.

Considering you are able to connect two shows that don’t have anything in common to the Royal Family of all things is pretty incredible. Of course, Suits and the Royal Family is a no-brainer because the Duchess of Sussex was once Rachel Zane on the legal drama. Still, knowing that McGee is just a few people away from the Royal Family is what really makes it all mind-blowing. Now I’m just wondering what other insane connections other shows have.

It really is amazing what people can randomly figure out without really thinking about it. It makes me wonder what else is out there that has yet to be realized when it’s right in front of your face. I would love even more if Bellisario were to appear again on NCIS as McGee’s sister and even reference the fun connection. Or perhaps Murray can appear in the upcoming Suits: L.A. spinoff with Adams, if he chooses to return. A girl can dream.

After USA Network legal drama Suits blew up on Netflix last year, the show experienced a resurgence. That buzz proved to be so powerful that it arguably led to a new spinoff being greenlit at NBC. At the same time, the cast have been discussing and promoting the show in a myriad of ways. Series lead actor Patrick J. Adams has been up to a lot since the show ended, but he's been handling the hype as well. He most recently explained why the resurgence was "weird" for the cast amid major Hollywood developments.

The first eight seasons of Suits landed on Netflix at the beginning of the summer in 2023, in the midst of the WGA writers’ strike. By July, SAG-AFTRA went on strike as well, at which point the aforementioned show was continuing to break records. Given the actors' strike, the cast wasn’t able to say much about it or really see the impact of the streaming boom. Adams, who played Mike Ross in the first seven seasons and returned as a guest in the ninth and final season, spoke to TVLine, During the chat, he addressed whether the show's boost has impacted his career and explained how the strikes played into everything:

Patrick J. Adams has been landing quite a lot of roles as of late, and it’s likely, in part, due to Suits getting put back on the map. The actor recently guest starred on Fox’s Accused and is even going to star in the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison. Additionally, he and Suits co-star Sarah Rafferty have been hosting rewatch podcast, Sidebar. It must've been awkward for Adams and co. not to be able to chime in on the show amid the strikes, but it seems he's still reaping the benefits of the beloved show's second life.

That being said, even after the series ended, the Suits cast remained quite busy in different ways after the show ended. Harvey Specter actor Gabriel Macht focused more on his family after the show, while Patrick J. Adams starred in Disney+’s The Right Stuff, travel miniseries Plan B, Prime’s A League of Their Own reboot and more. Of course, Adams’ on-screen wife, Meghan Markle, went on to marry Prince Harry, which is why she left Suits after Season 7, but the two have since returned to the States and dipped their toes into entertainment with their own deal with Netflix. Meanwhile, Gina Torres stars on 9-1-1: Lone Star, Sarah Rafferty had a recurring role in Chicago Med, and the rest of the cast have also been busy.

As one of the many shows to get popular again via streaming, the Aaron Korsh-created legal drama brought in a lot of viewers, both old and new. Based on the comments he's shared, Adams is pleased to see this resurgence for the show, and it's great to see him thriving as a result in the aftermath of the Hollywood strikes.

Like his successful former co-stars on Suits, Patrick J. Adams celebrated the legal drama’s streaming success with Netflix in 2023, and has shared positive thoughts about the upcoming NBC spinoff Suits L.A. But he’s been busy with all kinds of projects of his own, including his latest to hit the 2024 release schedule, Fox’s legal drama anthology Accused, in which he plays a character who stands apart from what fans are used to seeing him play.

I spoke with Adams ahead of his Accused episode “Marcus’ Story,” which co-stars Masked Singer host Nick Cannon, and he told me he was 100% in time-off mode with family outside of Toronto after filming the upcoming 2025 TV series Lockerbie in Scotland. But just as he thought he’d be sticking with the urge to relax off-camera, the offer for Accused came, and it swayed him enough to get right back to work, albeit just for a single episode.

He shared how much of an honor it was just to be sought out for a series whose cast has also included TV faves like William H. Macy, Margo Martindale, Wendell Pierce, Jason Ritter, Rhea Perlman and many more. And then pointed out how playing against his usual character type was also a big draw, saying:

Big props to Clark Johnson, a veteran actor of Homicide: Life on the Streets, The Wire and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, who has been even more prolific as a TV director. He's another sign of Accused's pedigree of talent whom Patrick J. Adams called "the real deal" among other praises later in our talk.

But to his point, it's not as if Adams has ever made a name for himself as a mustache-twirling villain, and he's so often given parts where audiences are just instantly meant to side with and trust the character. It's a wonder more projects haven't eagerly tried to get him to take on more devious roles, given how easy it would be to pull the rug out from audiences.

How Filming Accused Reminded Patrick J. Adams Of His Early-Career Acting Muscles

Regardless of how different the role was, Adams might not have agreed to take it if not for Accused's anthological nature. Only having to dedicate himself to filming a single episode justified the decision to interrupt family time. (As did the close-enough proximity of the Toronto filming locations.) Here's how he explained it:

While only getting smaller single-episode roles might be more discouraging for up-and-coming actors, heading up an installment of a show like Accused seems like the idealized way for this to happen. Not just for the shortened work schedule, but for the inherent challenge and spontaneity of it all. As difficult as it can be to make a character memorable across multiple seasons of TV, it's all the more complicated to pull it off in just 42 minutes.

That spur-of-the-moment creative push was a thriller for Adams to refamiliarize himself with for Accused. He continued:

Does that mean we'll see Patrick J. Adams popping up in more awesome TV anthologies like American Horror Stories, Black Mirror or even for a season-long story arc in True Detective? Knowing how much he enjoyed working on Accused only helps keep the optimism alive.

For now, though, he'll keep audiences pumped over the next year with a pair of streaming series —the aircraft disaster drama Lockerbie and the Netflix thriller Wayward — as well as his co-starring role in the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff The Madison.

Although the last few years have seen Patrick J. Adams appear in TV shows like The Right Stuff, A League of Their Own and Plan B, it’s safe to say he’s still best known for playing Mike Ross on Suits, which originally ran on USA Network from 2011 to 2019. This became even more cemented when Suits was all the rage on Netflix last year, to the point that it paved the way for NBC to greenlight the spinoff Suits L.A. While looking back on his time playing Mike, Adams pointed out the Suits scene that he believes changed his life forever.

Adams has teamed up with Suits co-star Sarah Rafferty for Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast, which sees the two watching the series for the first time, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and talking with special guests who also worked on Suits, both on camera and behind the scenes. In a preview released by SiriusXM for the first episode, Rafferty read off a description of the scene where Mike meets Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter for the first time and shows off his eidetic memory. This leads to him being hired to be an associate at the Pearson Hardman law firm, despite having never gone to law school. Here’s what Adams had to say about this scene:

Before Suits, Patrick J. Adams was arguably best known for his minor role in Old School and guest appearances in shows like Friday Night Lights and NCIS. Not that those should be trivialized, of course, but once Suits came along, that propelled the actor to new levels of fame, and that first scene between Mike and Harvey played a major role in making that happen. If that scene hadn’t played as well as it did, I doubt as many people would have been as invested in keeping up with Suits, which in turn would have affected how long its run on USA Network would have lasted.

While Sarah Rafferty stuck around to play Donna Paulsen for the entirety of Suits’ nine-season run, Patrick J. Adams departed as a series regular at the end of Season 7 alongside Meghan Markle, who played Rachel Zane. Unlike Markle, Adams later returned to recur during Season 9. Adams and Rafferty’s other co-stars when they were on Suits’ main cast together included Rick Hoffman and Gina Torres, and later additions to the starring lineup included Amanda Schull, Dulé Hill and Katherine Heigl.

In addition to all nine seasons of Suits still being accessible with a Netflix subscription, you can also stream it if you have a Peacock subscription. Suits L.A. doesn’t have a premiere date set yet on NBC, but if Patrick J. Some people might like to argue that streaming, in becoming our dominant form of media consumption, has ruined the television industry. Well, there is no doubt that it has changed the industry in many ways and, in some cases, for the better. 

There are many TV shows that are now regarded as classics but might not have earned such an honor if not for audiences discovering it on a streaming platform, helping boost its appeal in a way traditional television could not for whatever reason. Let's take a look at some of the most beloved TV shows that were made more popular (or even saved) by streaming. 

The Wire (2002-2008)

In its initial run, The Wire was already considered one of the best shows on HBO, if not of all time, for its refreshing grounded depiction of urban crime in modern Baltimore from both sides of the law. However, thanks to having a Max subscription (formerly known as HBO Max and, earlier, HBO GO), new generations of viewers have been able to witness David Simon's masterpiece.

You (2018-2024)

Even many of the biggest fans of You might not realize that the serial killer drama starring Penn Badgley is not a true Netflix original. It was canceled after one season on the Lifetime Network and, after becoming a surprise hit on Netflix, the platform picked it up for four more seasons.

Schitt's Creek (2015-2020)

Despite achieving instant success in its home nation of Canada on CBC, creator Dan and Eugene Levy's sitcom following a family's riches-to-rags story went underseen in the States for years on the Pop Network. Luckily, when the series dropped on Netflix, America suddenly could not get enough of the Schitt's Creek cast, the comedy's remarkable quotability, and surprisingly heartfelt moments.

The Expanse (2015-2022)

Based on a series of novels by Daniel Abrahams and Ty Franck (and James S. A. Corey), The Expanse quickly found a following on SyFy as one of the network's smartest and most exciting dramas and, yet, it still got the boot after three seasons. Fortunately, the adventures of James Holden (Steven Strait) and his crew's defense against a conspiracy affecting the colonized solar system were able to continue as one of the best sci-fi TV shows on Amazon Prime for three more seasons.

Suits (2011-2019)

Despite being one of the longest-running series on USA Network, Suits really became a hit in its later years after gaining traction as one of the most-watched TV shows on Netflix. Of course, Suits cast member Meghan Markle's marriage to Prince Harry likely had an influence on the legal drama's success.

The Office (2005-2014)

Greg Daniels' Americanized update of the hilarious British sitcom was certainly a hit on NBC, but its fanbase grew exponentially when it became one of the highest-viewed series on Netflix. It is no wonder why Peacock paid the platform $500 million for the streaming rights to The Office and even released special Superfan cuts of select episodes.

Letterkenny (2016-2023)

To be honest, Letterkenny, which follows the day-to-day lives of people from the titular rural town in the Great White North, already originated on a streaming service: the Canadian-exclusive platform, Crave. However, when it became available in the United States with a Hulu subscription, the quirky sitcom's fanbase took a Texas-size expansion.

Firefly (2002-2003)

There is a variety of reasons why Firefly was canceled after Fox aired only 11 episodes, from a doomed time slot to misguided marketing. Luckily, even before streaming helped widen its fanbase, the now beloved sci-fi TV show following a crew of outlaws traveling beyond the stars released a DVD set that allowed audiences to see the epic Western-style cosmic adventures they missed out on.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008)

Following the journey of a young man born with the ability to manipulate the elements air, earth, fire, and water, Avatar: The Last Airbender was a huge hit during its initial run on Nickelodeon. It would only become even more popular when it became available to stream on Netflix, which would go on to produce a live-action series update in 2024.

Breaking Bad (2008-2013)

According to Variety, after Breaking Bad won the Best Drama Series Emmy in 2013, creator Vince Gilligan admitted he owed the success of his groundbreaking drama to Netflix, which later produced El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. The thriller, following a terminally high school chemistry teacher (played by Bryan Cranston) turning to crime to support his family, could barely be called a hit during its few years on AMC.

 Freaks And Geeks (1999-2000)

One of the first titles that come to mind when people think of series that ended too soon is Freaks and Geeks, which was canceled by NBC after one season for the typical reasons: misguided marketing and a poor time slot. Since most of the Freaks and Geeks cast went on to take Hollywood by storm, the coming-of-age dramedy has become one of the most acclaimed series of its time by fans who discovered in the digital age.

Criminal Minds (2005-Present)

After lasting a whopping 15 seasons on CBS, Criminal Minds continued to captivate audiences as one of the most popular crime TV shows on Netflix. The procedural drama's enduring success eventually led to its revival, on Paramount+.

Manifest (2018-2023)

When NBC canned it after just three seasons, fans prayed that Netflix would swoop in to renew Manifest and, luckily, their wish came true. A fourth and final season of the sci-fi drama, about a commercial jet that suddenly reappears five years after mysteriously vanishing, debuted on the streaming platform, allowing it to have the smooth landing creator Jeff Rake intended.

Lucifer (2016-2021)

Based on a DC Vertigo comic book, Lucifer — starring Tom Ellis as the Devil, taking human form to be an LAPD consultant — debuted on Fox, where it lasted only three seasons. Soon after, it would be hailed as one of the best DC TV shows on Netflix when it was renewed for three more seasons exclusively on the platform.

Community (2009-2015)

Ironically enough, when Dan Harmon's comedy about a close-knit group of community students first transitioned from NBC to a streaming exclusive on the now-defunct Yahoo! Screen, it was considered a disaster. However, fans would go on to revisit the best episodes of Community on Hulu, Netflix, or Peacock, keeping the #SixSeasonsAndAMovie dream alive. 

Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)

One of the most popular shows on The CW (when it was still called The WB) was Gilmore Girls, which would only remain popular and acquire more fans who discovered it with their Netflix subscription. The streaming platform would even serve as the home of a four-episode sequel series called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Friends (1994-2004)

Could Friends have been a bigger bit than it was during its ten-year run on NBC? As it turns out, yes, since the popular '90s TV show became a monster hit on Netflix and, once it left the platform, likely inspired many fans to get a Max subscription just so they could keep the binge going.

Luther (2010-2019)

Some of the best evidence of the enduring popularity of Luther — an acclaimed British crime thriller starring Idris Elba in the brilliant but cantankerous title role — can be found on Netflix. In 2023, the platform distributed a feature-length spin-off called Luther: The Fallen Sun, which quickly became its highest-watched movie and led to a deal for more films.

Arrested Development (2003-2019)

Despite never getting the ratings it needed to be a hit during its three-season run on Fox, Arrested Development was remembered fondly as one of the most hilarious cult favorite TV shows of all time. That enduring legacy led to its revival in 2017 as "a Netflix semi-original series."

Boy Meets World (1993-2000)

In its prime, Boy Meets World was one of the must-see comedies from ABC's TGIF Block in the 1990s and would later spawn a sequel series following Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga's (Danielle Fishel) daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) called Girl Meets World. The success of the Disney Channel series, also starring Sabrina Carpenter, inspired a new generation of fans to check out the original with their Disney+ subscription. 

Futurama (1999-Present)

Creator Matt Groening's animated satire about an average 20th Century man who wakes up from an accidental, 1000-year cryogenic slumber initially ran for just four seasons on Fox, was revived on Comedy Central from 2008 to 2013, and then, a decade later, became an exclusive on Hulu where it is more popular than ever. At this rate, it looks like Futurama might last well into the future.

Teen Wolf (2011-2017)

MTV's darker take on a funny coming-of-age creature feature from the '80s was a surprise hit, even as one of the best horror TV shows on Hulu in the years since it ended. The continued interest in the series on streaming would lead to a feature-length continuation that premiered on Paramount+ in early 2023.

iCarly (2007-2012, 2021-2023)

Miranda Cosgrove followed her role as the mischievous Megan on Drake & Josh by starring on the Nickelodeon sitcom as a teen internet sensation. People who grew up with the show would rediscover their love for it as adults when Paramount+ revived iCarly with more mature audiences in mind.

The Mindy Project (2012-2017)

Creator and star Mindy Kaling's first major follow-up after playing Kelly Kapoor in NBC's The Office cast was the aptly titled The Mindy Project, in which she plays an OB/GYN struggling to balance her personal and professional life. It premiered on Fox, where it remained for three seasons, before moving exclusively to Hulu for the latter half of its run.

Longmire (2012-2017)

Based on a series of novels by Craig Johnson, Longmire is a neo-Western drama starring Australian actor Robert Taylor as the titular Wyoming sheriff who brings his own brand of justice to his county. Despite debuting on A&E as the cable network's highest-rated original drama, it was not renewed for a fourth season, leading Netflix to step in and become its home for another three years.

Trailer Park Boys (2001-2018)

A show that Letterkenny fans would enjoy if they have not heard of it already is Trailer Park Boys — another comedy set in rural Canada which, for its first seven years, aired on a channel exclusive to the country called Showcase. A newfound interest in the documentary-style series and its feature-length spin-offs in the United States led Netflix to acquire the show in 2012, lasting several more seasons and even spawning more specials and an animated series.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020)

Before a new Star Wars TV show premiered on Disney+ every few months or so, one of the most beloved small-screen titles to come from a galaxy far, far away was Star Wars: The Clone Wars. However, the Force initially could have been stronger with this one as it was canceled by Cartoon Network in 2013 before gaining newfound popularity on Netflix (where a new season was distributed) the following year and, later, getting revived for one more batch of episodes on DIsney+ in 2020.

Parks And Recreation (2009-2015) 

Despite being the brainchild of The Office producers Greg Daniels and Michael Schur and starring former SNL cast member Amy Poehler in the lead, Parks and Recreation struggled to find its footing on NBC for its first couple of years. The mockumentary-style political satire got a bit of a boost in popularity once it dropped on Netflix and, for years after it ended, earned a reputation as one of the most popular series on the platform.

White Collar (2009-2014)

The show that made a star out of actor Matt Bomer is White Collar, in which he stars as a suave professional criminal who works with the FBI to catch other cons like him. Like many other USA original series, the dramedy was a much bigger hit on Netflix than it was during its initial run on the network.

Designated Survivor (2016-2019)

Kiefer Sutherland stars in Designated Survivor as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who is suddenly appointed President after everyone in the chain of command above him is killed in a catastrophic attack. The political drama was canceled after only two years on ABC but would go on for one more season on Netflix.

The Nanny (1993-1999)

Co-creator and star Fran Drescher is best known for playing Fran Fine on The Nanny, which had a strong run on CBS in the 1990s. The sitcom is noted for appealing to a new generation when it dropped on Max.

The Killing (2011-2014)

The American version of the Danish television series Forbrydelsen, The Killing, originally premiered on AMC, which would cancel the dark crime drama after its third season, which almost did not happen. The series then made an official transition to Netflix, where its fourth and final season was distributed.

With every television season that passes, we lose some great shows. While there have already been a number of beloved series which were canceled or set to end in 2024, fans can rejoice about a great cable show finally joining one of the best streaming services when it comes to those with a Netflix subscription. And, I’m really hoping it eventually gets the Suits treatment.

What Great Cable Show Is Finally Coming To Netflix?

There’s no reason to keep you in suspense any longer, as former Starz series Heels (which was canceled in 2023 after its second season finale), starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, will be heading to Netflix, with both critically lauded seasons hitting the streamer on September 15, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The drama focused on Amell and Ludwig’s characters (Jack and Ace Spade, respectively), two professional wrestlers and brothers, who are struggling to keep their father’s small-town promotion afloat after he dies.

Even though the drama was centered around the frequently wild world of pro wrestling, many critics and those in the show’s small but dedicated fanbase loved that you didn’t need to be a diehard fan of the WWE or wrestling in general to enjoy the series. Heels’ major themes of right vs. wrong, good vs. evil (with both stars loving and excelling at playing the villain), familial, relationship and business strife were very easy for anyone to pick up on and become enthralled by.

That said, y’all…Heels is about pro wrestling! So, if you do happen to be a fan and like getting behind the scenes looks at how such a wild sport comes together, as well as some insight into what it’s probably like to work for a very small promotion that’s always attempting to up its game, this show is for you! As someone who only recently became a devotee of sports entertainment (i.e. professional wrestling) and has been binge watching WWE (and having some really weird thoughts about this crazy/lovely form of pro athletics), I’m definitely going to check this drama out, and I already want it to get the Suits treatment.

Why Should Heels Get The Suits Treatment From Netflix?

It’s been a little over a year since the popular legal drama Suits became one of the best shows to binge on Netflix, and did so by becoming a dominant streaming hit and reaching more people than it had when it was originally released on USA. That success led to talks of a revival, which in turn led to a new series called Suits: L.A. quickly being pitched and eventually picked up to series by NBC. Not only will that show debut on the 2024 TV schedule, but Heels star Stephen Amell leads the upcoming drama. If both shows end up being successful, we could get a lot more of the former Arrow star on TV!

There’s also one other, not so small, reason why I want the show to become popular on Netflix and be allowed to return for at least one more season: it ended on a cliffhanger. Showrunner/co-star Mike O’Malley previously told EW that he was looking for a way to bring the series back, and with its release on the streaming giant imminent he still thinks there’s hope, even with Amell now leading a new show. As O’Malley recently said:

I’m not giving up hope for a streaming revival of Amell’s last drama, so here’s hoping Netflix agrees and he can basically find a way to film two shows at the same time!

Although Suits had a successful run on the USA Network from 2011 to 2019, the fact of the matter is a lot of people didn’t learn about the show until it became available to watch in 2023 with a Netflix subscription. The legal drama ended up becoming a massive streaming success, leading many of its actors being asked about their thoughts on Suits’ surge in popularity. Now we can add Eric Roberts to that list, who also talked in an interview about why the series was so difficult to work on.

The actor whose extensive resume includes Runaway Train, The Dark Knight, Heroes and The Righteous Gemstones, to name just a few, appeared in nine episodes of Suits as Charles Forstman, a multi-billionaire investor who chiefly served as a Season 4 antagonist to Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter, Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross and the law firm’s other main characters. While chatting with ComingSoon, Roberts noted how he’s never been involved in a project that’s had “that kind of delayed reaction” in becoming a hit of that scale, to the point that “12-year-old girls were saying hi” to him because they loved him in Suits. He then said:

Suits was definitely dialogue-heavy, though that’s to be expected in a show about lawyers, their clients and the white collar people, like Charles Forstman, who make their lives complicated. But even by those standards, Eric Roberts admitted that his time on Suits was difficult because of the lengthy monologues and how often lines were being changed. Still, it’s clear he enjoyed his time on Suits from 2014 to 2019, and has been especially impressed with how it’s taken off in just the last year.

While Suits was unquestionably one of USA’s staple pieces of programming back in the day, its popularity back then pales in comparison to what it’s achieved on streaming. It crushed on Netflix’s Top 10 list for a long time, and Sarah Rafferty revealed that she and her fellow series regulars were left “gobsmacked” in their group chat upon learning the show had streamed for billions of minutes on the platform. Suits’ resurgence even led to NBC greenlighting a spinoff called Suits: L.A.. It hasn’t been announced yet if this new show will debut on the 2024 TV schedule or sometime in 2025, but the first look at Ted Black, the main protagonist played by Stephen Amell, dropped earlier this week.

Remember that in addition to being available on Netflix, Suits can also be streamed with a Peacock subscription. There are also plenty of shows like Suits that are worth watching if you’re in the mood for something different.

While it’s still unclear whether or not Netflix will tag with Jack Spade for a third season of the wrestling drama Heels, that drama’s star Stephen Amell is 100% heading back to network TV now that NBC confirmed its series order for the legal drama spinoff Suits: L.A. series order. The spinoff to USA’s hit legal drama (whose surge of streaming popularity on Netflix in 2023 sparked calls for a follow-up) unveiled its first look at Amell’s new character Ted Black, but the actor’s fans were positively green with Arrow references.

Having filmed the pilot over the spring in Vancouver, nearly 12 years after suiting up as Oliver Queen, Amell is no doubt pumped to get his latest TV show in front of audiences, even though it won’t be arriving before the 2024 premiere schedule concludes. But it’ll seemingly take some time before his fanbase fully transitions from Arrow-based reactions to Suits-adjacent comments. Check out his Instagram post below.

With a whole sunlit city seen through massive windows behind him, Stephen Amell’s Ted Black could feasibly be a superhero alter ego, but it’s not a super-suit he’s wearing for NBC’s newest legal dramedy. And he likely won’t be donning any masks, either, barring any COVID-related plotlines. But fans don’t need visual connections to remember what will possibly go down as Amell’s most celebrated role.

Easily the most popular reply to Amell’s pic is a spin on a classic Arrow quote from the CW/DC drama’s first season:

The Hood was addressing criminals and other evildoers with his ominous phrase, but it’ll be interesting to see which side of the moral line Ted Black falls to, and whether or not he’d be an aid to a local superhero or a hindrance. Not that Suits: L.A. or any other NBC shows will feature superheroes, but one can dream.

And yes, there were certainly plenty of other comments with other forms of "You have failed this..." jokes, with no doubt plenty of others on the way once more pics and trailers are released. Heaven help us all if Ted Black happens to find archery to be a soothing pastime, or if he happens to enjoy wearing bad wigs.

Suffice to say, Stephen Amell has a ton of support behind him going into his first season as Ted Black. And if NBC or Peacock happens to go into development on Suits: Central City with Grant Gustin in a title role, we'll all know what the deal is.

The former federal prosecutor that the actor is playing will be surrounded by other characters who are aiming to keep his firm afloat during a period of crisis. Those characters will be portrayed by the likes of Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Alice Lee, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush.

Expect to find Suits: L.A. hitting NBC's schedule during midseason premieres, and be sure to catch up on the O.G. series streaming with a Netflix subscription.

Stephen Amell is returning to network primetime TV later in the 2024 TV schedule, but his new starring role won't be on The CW or involve dressing up as a superhero to fight crime like his eight seasons of Arrow. After he was cast in the pilot for the Suits spinoff that was developing back in February, NBC has ordered the project to series and revealed the official description. Now, as any Suits viewer can surely guess, this show definitely isn't going to be set in a world of bow-wielding comic book heroes and villains, but I got some unexpected Arrow and Oliver Queen vibes from the newest info.

NBC announced the series order for Suits: L.A. on July 19, listing Stephen Amell as the top-billed actor and confirming Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush as cast members. (McDermitt's casting was initially announced not long after Amell's was in February.) Original Suits creator Aaron Korsh remains on board the Los Angeles-set spinoff as creator and executive producer.

But none of those details are what had me flashing back to my days of covering Arrow up until it ended in 2020. NBC also released the official description of the series and what Amell's character will be motivated to do. Take a look:

Do I think that Ted Black's backstory in New York that led to him reinventing himself in L.A. will be anywhere near as grim and bloody as Oliver Queen's backstory that led to him reinventing himself as the vengeful Green Arrow? Of course not, and I foresee far less green leather in Stephen Amell's future in the world of a legal drama than as star of the show that launched the whole Arrowverse.

But as somebody who did cover Arrow back in its heyday, I did have to laugh when I read about Stephen Amell's new character reinventing himself and embracing a role he never would have in his former life. An ensemble of characters whose loyalties are tested with bleed beteween their personal and professional lives? Talk about Team Arrow vibes!

Even though there may not be a ton of overlap between former Arrowverse viewers and NBC legal drama fans, it would be fun to get an Easter egg or two. Stephen Amell seems to have fond memories of his time as the Green Arrow, as he reflected on shooting the Arrow pilot as he was traveling to Vancouver to shoot another pilot back in March, which was presumably Suits: L.A.

If he was referring to Suits: L.A. in that post, it's curious that it was filming in Vancouver when the show is quite obviously set in Los Angeles. It's not unusual for series to film in British Columbia, but while it was easy to pass Canada off for the fictional Star(ling) City in Arrow, Vancouver and L.A. aren't quite interchangeable. The original Suits – which was set in New York City – did film in Canada.

For now, it hasn't be confirmed that he was headed north to film Suits: L.A.'s pilot in that post, and we can only speculate. The odds do seem good that the Suits spinoff getting a series order means that any dreams of Heels coming back are likely dead. At the time of writing, NBC hasn't announced when exactly to expect the show, and it wasn't in the lineup when the network confirmed the premieres of its two remaining Law & Order shows or any of the rest of its series.

NBC's Instagram post about the series order did say that Suits: LA is "officially coming your way on nbc and streaming on [Peacock] this fall." As the wait begins for the new show, you can always rewatch the original Suits with a Peacock Premium subscription and/or Arrow with a Netflix subscription.

There are those shows that ended long before we wanted them to, from '90s one-season wonders like Freaks & Geeks and My So-Called Life to perfectly timed dramas like Succession and Breaking Bad. These are not those shows. Instead, these television titles overstayed their welcome, long after their biggest stars departed, or the critical acclaim and awards dried up, or the storylines made any sense. Here are 32 TV shows that simply went on way too long. 

Californication

At the beginning of Showtime's Californication, which ran on the network from 2007 to 2014, the story of troubled novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) and his hedonistic ways felt fresh and edgy. But seven seasons of incessant drinking and womanizing majorly dulled any of that edge. 

The Walking Dead

How long can people survive a zombie apocalypse? Apparently, for a while—the AMC flagship series The Walking Dead went on for an unfathomable eleven seasons and the survival story of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) still isn't over, having been picked up in the spin-off miniseries The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. 

Dexter

One word: lumberjack. For eight seasons, the Showtime series followed Miami man Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) as he worked as a forensic pathologist by day and a vigilante serial killer by night. Spending nearly a decade watching Dexter get away with murder after murder felt both implausible and repetitive. And don't even get us started on that disappointing, woodsy series finale. 

Grey's Anatomy

It's felt like Grey's Anatomy has been resuscitated more times than any of the patients at Seattle Grace. It's been the longest-running medical drama on primetime, but it became barely the Grey's that O.G. fans remember. In later seasons, lead actress Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, scaled back to a recurring role, and beloved original characters like Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) were all long gone. 

The Handmaid's Tale

There's plenty of argument to be made that Hulu's dragged-out dystopian drama The Handmaid's Tale—which sees fertile American women (played by the likes of Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel and Samira Wiley) being forced into child-bearing slavery by a totalitarian government—should have been a one-and-done miniseries. After all, the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel on which it is based concluded after the events of the first season. 

Sons of Anarchy

Too-long episodes (many of which pushed way past the traditional hour-long mark) and irredeemable characters made it hard to continue to care about Jax (Charlie Hunnam), Gemma (Katey Sagal) and the rest of the outlaw bikers in the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club after seven seasons of the FX crime drama.

Shameless

Sure, Shameless had a jam-packed ensemble throughout its entire eleven season run, including Jeremy Allen White, William H. Macy, Cameron Monaghan and Shanola Hampton. But the grungy Showtime family drama lost its heart when lead actress Emmy Rossum—who played the older sister-turned-matriarch Fiona Gallagher—departed the series in season nine. 

White Collar

Many White Collar fans felt that things were getting a little rinse-and-repeat with the USA Network procedural by the end of its six-season run, with case-of-the-week storylines and stagnant character development. Imagine their surprise, then, when it was announced that the show was getting a Netflix revival, with actors Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen reprising their roles. 

This Is Us

The earned emotionality of early seasons of This Is Us—an NBC family drama that follows the lives of two parents (played by Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore) and their three children (Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley,) in several different time frames—started to feel manipulative and maudlin after six years. 

Suits

Some television shows suffer from an unsustainable premise. Case in point, Suits, the USA Network legal drama that follows a college dropout with a photographic memory (Patrick J. Adams) who is hired to work as an associate at a prestigious law firm, despite not actually having a license to practice law. Sure, Jan. Despite the dubious concept, Suits aired for a whopping nine seasons. 

Supernatural

Exactly how many demons, ghosts and monsters did brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have to hunt down to save the world? Fifteen seasons and 327 episodes worth! However, even many Supernatural superfans believe the CW fantasy series lost its way by the end and should have finished after season five when creator Eric Kripke left as showrunner. 

How I Met Your Mother

That is one long story that Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor) tells his adolescent children Luke (David Henrie) and Penny (Lyndsy Fonseca) about how their dad first met their mother. In fact, the tale took nine whole years, with many meandering tangents along the way, that we wouldn't blame the kids if they, too, got bored listening to it. 

Glee

Few shows faced quite the critical fall from grace as Glee. Early on, the FOX teen show—which centered on the plucky members of New Directions, the glee club of the fictional William McKinley High School—was an awards show juggernaut, winning several Emmys in its first few seasons, but those high notes were soured when the scripts focused less on the show's original characters and more on ad nauseum celebrity guests. 

Scrubs

Starting with the ninth season, many of the original Scrubs cast—including Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn—stepped back from being main characters on the show, popping up in only a handful or as little as one episode that season. Longtime fans of the NBC medical comedy didn't love that their favorites got replaced with new characters, played by the likes of Kerry Bishé, Michael Mosley and Dave Franco.

The Big Bang Theory

Running for 12 seasons and 279 episodes, this CBS sitcom about Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and their similarly geeky pals got bogged down by too many main characters, recycled old catchphrases and the use of laugh tracks as a crutch. 

The Simpsons

As old as, well, the person writing this very article, the satirical animated sitcom has broken several TV records in its three-decade tenure, including being the longest-running scripted primetime series in American television. And though Homer, Marge, Bar, Lisa, Maggie and the rest of the residents of Springfield are comedy legends, they now feel like relics of a different generation. 

Riverdale

The occurrences within the town of Riverdale were easy enough to keep track of in the early seasons of the CW teen drama, which was populated with the famous characters from Archie Comics (Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and the like.) But as the writing got messier and mazelike, and the characters' storylines more and more outlandish, the soapy series became impossible to take seriously by the end of its seven-season run. 

Game of Thrones

The brazenness with which the Game of Thrones creators killed off some of its biggest, most beloved characters — Ned Stark (Sean Bean) in season one, his son Robb (Richard Madden) and wife Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) in season four — majorly lost its umph when the show killed off Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the season five finale...only to resurrect him two episodes later. 

Homeland

The first two seasons of this Showtime espionage thriller — in which Claire Danes stars as a CIA officer with bipolar disorder, opposite Damian Lewis playing a Marine Corps Scout Sniper who has just returned home following eight years in captivity — received universal acclaim, including the 2012 Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. However, though Homeland had eight seasons total, it never recovered in quality following the death of Lewis's character in season 3. 

Two and a Half Men

It's always a gamble when you replace the main character of a TV show, especially such a long-running one as the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. Originally starring Charlie Sheen as a hedonistic jingle writer living with his uptight brother (played by Jon Cryer) and his nephew (Angus T. Jones), the show misguidedly hired Ashton Kutcher to lead the cast in seasons nine through twelve after Sheen left the show to enter drug rehab. 

One Tree Hill

It rarely works when a high school show follows its characters to college and into adulthood. One Tree Hill, the early-aughts teen drama that ran for three seasons on The WB and another six on The CW, stretched the storylines of Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton), Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and the rest of the Tree Hill Ravens crew too long past graduation, especially as both Murray and Burton departed the show after season five.  

Lost

Airing 121 episodes over six seasons from 2004 to 2010, Lost packed a lot of supernatural nonsense onto that island, frustratingly devolving over the years from a character drama to a complex mythology swirling with time travel, smoke monsters and electromagnetic phenomena. Even co-creator Damon Lindelof has said that he wanted the show to end after three seasons instead of six. By the time the series aired its final episode, the sci-fi series had offered up far too many questions and far too few answers.

Modern Family

Even Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy in 11 seasons of the Emmy-winning ABC comedy, was kind of disappointed by the show's later seasons. And she seemingly wasn't the only one: though it had earned both critical acclaim and strong viewership for its earlier installments, season 10 had the worst ratings of the series. 

Once Upon a Time

The thing about fairytales is that soon enough you get to that happily ever after at the end. The ABC fantasy drama Once Upon a Time seemingly didn't get that message because it made fans wait for that storybook ending for seven long seasons — even Robert Carlyle, who portrayed Rumplestiltskin in the series, retrospectively admitted to The A.V. Club that he felt that the series "ran for too long."

Killing Eve

On paper, we should have never wanted Killing Eve to end, with its cast led by a superb Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer — as a British intelligence investigator and the psychopathic assassin she's tasked with capturing, respectively — and scripts from the brilliant mind of Fleabag scribe-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. However, when Waller-Bridge departed as head writer after the first season, the once-great show simply ran out of story. 

Bones

Crime procedurals have a habit of staying on TV long after they should, what with their formulaic case-of-the-week structure that's easy to replicate season after season. And Bones, the long-running Fox crime drama starring Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, is definitely no exception, overstuffed with soapy gimmicks, themed episodes and a way-too-long will-they-won't-they dynamic between Deschanel's Temperance Brennan and Boreanaz's Seeley Booth.

The Office

Of course, we love the entire Dunder Mifflin crew, but everybody knows that The Office should have naturally called it quits when lead Steve Carell — who played the "World's Best Boss," a.k.a. the delightfully incompetent Michael Scott — departed the show after its seventh season. Not even big-name actors like Will Ferrell and James Spader could fill the hole Michael Scott left. 

Westworld

Westworld's first season is to this day the most-watched first season of any HBO original series. However, that popularity, coupled with early critical acclaim, didn't last long for the dystopian Western — the writing and character work drastically declined by the time the show was canceled in November 2022, and just a month later, the entire series was brutally removed from HBO Max. 

That '70s Show

The Fox teen drama — centered on a groovy group of teenage friends living in the fictional town of Point Place, Wisconsin — worked because of the chemistry created by its young cast, including Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama. So of course the show itself took a creative hit when that chemistry was altered following the departures of Grace and Kutcher after the seventh season. 

Smallville

Initially a show about a teenage Clark Kent dealing with issues both human (bullies, crushes) and superhuman (kryptonite and such) while growing up in fictional Smallville, Kansas, Smallville seemed to care less and less about the human side of the Man of Steel over the course of ten seasons. Many fans suggest that the TV superhero should have hung his cape after season seven, which saw the departure of both the show's main villain Lex Luther (Michael Rosenbaum) and Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. 

13 Reasons Why

Based on the young adult novel by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why is one of those cases where a multi-season show was made to be a limited series. Instead of just neatly telling the story of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) and the tapes she leaves behind after tragically ending her own life, the Netflix teen drama inexplicably changed genres throughout its four-season run, becoming a poor murder mystery in the show's third season. 

Heroes

Though the NBC superhero drama Heroes only went on for four seasons, critics of the show were already pointing out less-than-engaging storylines and lack of cohesion as early as season two. The tales of ordinary people who discover that they have superhuman abilities and have to work together to prevent catastrophic futures should have been adrenaline-pumping stuff, but it simply couldn't sustain that energy after its acclaimed first season. 

July is here, and with it comes the annual shuffling of streaming platforms. Rights that ended in June mean movies and shows disappearing, and entirely new movies and shows appearing on all of the best streaming services. It certainly means there’s plenty of entertainment to enjoy, and can also mean that finding what’s good among the massive avalanche of new stuff can be complicated. 

If you have a Netflix subscription, you need to know what’s worth your time this week. Luckily, there’s so much good stuff this first week that it may take you the better part of the month to enjoy it all. A pair of top-notch movie trilogies, one of the most popular TV series ever, and a pair of Netflix-exclusive franchise expansions make July a great month on the streamer already. 

New Movies On Netflix

Back to the Future Franchise - July 1 

The Back to the Future series isn’t made up of three perfect movies, and yet it may be one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. It’s so iconic that nearly 35 years after it ended, nobody has ever really tried to reboot it or make a sequel decades later. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd are perfectly cast, a near miracle considering Fox nearly wasn’t cast at all. All three films arrive together, so fans can relive the near-perfect trilogy again. Great Scott, this is going to be fun. 

Spider-Man 1-3 - July 1

Spider-Man fans with a Disney+ subscription have been able to enjoy the original Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy for some time, but the first three live-action Spider-Man films will be added to Netflix in July, giving even more people access to the films that arguably launched the superhero movie boom that we’re still in the middle of today. Considering that a lot of people want to see Maguire as Spider-Man again, catching up on these may not be a bad idea. 

 The Karate Kid - July 1

Is it weird that Cobra Kai has been an incredibly popular streaming service for years, and yet the original Karate Kid movies on which it was based haven’t been available on Netflix? I feel like that’s weird. With the final season of Cobra Kai set to debut later in the month, the original Karate Kid movie will finally be available, so fans can rewatch where the story all started. 

Warcraft - July 1

While we’re seeing a lot more success today when it comes to movies based on video games, not every movie that came out before Detective Pikachu was actually bad. Warcraft by Duncan Jones brought the popular real-time strategy game series to life in an incredible way. Its use of CGI to create the Orc characters is criminally overlooked as one of the most successful uses of the technology in the era. Warcraft isn’t a secret classic, but it is a movie worth checking out if you’re a fan of the game series or high fantasy movies in general. 

American Psycho - July 1

Christian Bale has gone on to huge things since American Psycho, but this was arguably the first movie where a lot of people saw him. While it’s certainly not a film for the faint of heart, it’s still an incredibly compelling story, and the American Psycho ending is something a lot of people are still talking about even years later. If you’ve never seen this one, it’s worth checking out, and if you have, it’s probably about time for a rewatch.  

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F - July 3

Beverly Hills Cop was one of the biggest movies of 1984, making a star of Eddie Murphy. Two sequels followed, but there have been attempts to make a fourth film in the franchise for decades. Alex Foley will finally return to Beverly Hills this week, and while Axel Foley is a bit older, it seems unlikely he’ll be any less hilarious. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon join the Axel F cast alongside returning favorites. Here’s hoping the characters have aged as well as the theme song.

New Series On Netflix

 Lost  (Complete Series)

For the last several years, if you wanted to watch Lost, you needed a Hulu subscription. In July, the popular series from J.J. Abrams that made as many diehard fans as it made people irate at the Lost ending returns to Netflix, so if this is your main streaming service, you can finally watch it again. You might as well enjoy it from the beginning and see if it all makes any more sense this time around. 

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 - July 1

Usually to watch the newest Star Trek, you need a Paramount+ subscription. However, after the family-friendly Nickelodeon series Star Trek: Prodigy was canceled by the powers that be, Netflix, as it has done with numerous series, came in to save the day. Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 arrives July 1. Season 1 is already on Netflix if you need to catch up. As a series that may create many Star Trek fans, one hopes this one has a better time finding an audience with Netflix.

Suits (Season 9) - July 1

Last year, for reasons that are still only vaguely clear, Suits, a USA Network series that had been off the air for years and was never a broad hit, became the hottest thing on multiple streaming platforms. Maybe it had something to do with a cast member becoming a Duchess. Unfortunately, if you watched the show on Netflix, you weren’t able to finish it, as only the first eight seasons were available. Netflix subscribers will finally be able to finish the story with Season 9 arriving on the platform.

When USA Network was known for airing scripted series unlike nearly anything else on television, it premiered an irresistibly unique legal drama called Suits, which ran from 2011 to 2019. Created by Aaron Korsh, the series followed the unlikely partnership of Mike Ross — a college dropout on the run from a drug deal gone bad — and a top-ranking New York attorney named Harvey Specter, who accepts him on to his team at Pearson Hardman LLC. Let's review what the talented ensemble has been up to since closing the case below.

Gabriel Macht (Harvey Reginald Specter)

Prior to playing Harvey Specter, Gabriel Macht (the son of actor Stephen Macht, who once had recurring role on Suits) was best known for movies like 2001’s Behind Enemy Lines, Robert De Niro’s The Good Shepherd from 2006, and a comic book movie that deserves a reboot, 2008’s The Spirit, as the titular vigilante. Following the end of Suits, the actor told would appear in a Super Bowl T-Mobile ad with Patrick J. Adams in 2024 and is recurring as Harvey on the new spin-off, Suits L.A., which debuted with some interesting twists on NBC in February.

Patrick J. Adams (Michael James Ross)

Despite debuting in a classic comedy like 2003’s Old School and guest-starring on several hit series like Lost and Friday Night Lights, playing Mike Ross on Suits really saw a career breakthrough for Patrick J. Adams. After leaving the series in Season 7, he led Disney+’s The Right Stuff cast as John Glenn and a 2023 time travel miniseries called Plan B, Amazon Prime’s A League of the Their Own series reboot, and did movies like 2022’s The Swearing Jar and He Went That Way from 2023. That same year, Adams joined a Johann Wolfgang von Goethe adaptation called Young Werther and, the following year, he was cast in an upcoming Netflix/BBC miniseries called Lockerbie.

Meghan Markle (Rachel Elizabeth Zane)

Easily the Suits cast’s most famous face is Meghan Markle, who had many notable small roles (including as a Deal or No Deal briefcase model) before she was cast as paralegal-turned-attorney and, later, Mike’s wife, Rachel Zane. She would also leave her role in Season 7 and retire from acting after she became engaged to Prince Harry, but after the couple stepped down from their working positions in the Royal Family, the Duchess of Sussex started hosting her podcast, Archetypes, and appeared in the Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan. There are also rumors suggesting Markle will show up in Suits L.A., but without confirmation.

Rick Hoffman (Louis Marlowe Litt)

The shady former managing and name partner of Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett, Louis Litt, is played by Rick Hoffman, whose first major small-screen role after the Suits finale was a recurring part on Showtime’s Billions as Dr. Swerdlow. In 2023, he reunited with his Hostel director, Eli Roth, to star in the 2023 slasher, Thanksgiving, and appeared in a Hallmark original time loop movie called Round and Round from the same year. According to THR, Hoffman will next star in an action comedy titled London Calling and a drama called Wildfire.

Sarah Rafferty (Donna Roberta Paulsen)

As Harvey’s assistant-turned-wife, Donna Paulsen, we have Sarah Rafferty, whose first major follow-up to the end of Suits was a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy in 2020 and, that same year, she appeared opposite still-acting former child star Lukas Haas in a thriller called Browse. She went on to have a recurring stint on NBC’s Chicago Med and a starring role on the Netflix original 2023 TV show, My Life with the Walter Boys. As Variety reported in June 2024, Rafferty is teaming up with Adams for Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast, in which the former co-stars will discuss their experiences watching the series for the first time.

Gina Torres (Jessica Lourdes Pearson)

Previously best known for playing Zoë in the Firefly cast, Gina Torres starred on Suits as Jessica Pearson, who led her own short-lived, self-titled spin-off in 2019. In addition to voice acting roles (the most recent being Ms. Moreno on the Disney Channel series Kindergarten: The Musical), the actor would find a starring TV series role again in Tommy Vega on 9-1-1: Lone Star. She was also in a 2023 Netflix rom-com called The Perfect Find and her upcoming film The Everything Pot premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024.

Amanda Schull (Katrina Amanda Bennett)

Before corporate attorney Katrina Bennett became a main character in Season 8, Amanda Schull recurred in the role on Suits from 2013 to 2018 while starring on SyFy’s 12 Monkeys series. Schull would later appear in Netflix’s action-comedy series The Recruit, reunite with Torres for five episodes on 9-1-1: Lone Star in 2023, and has found success starring in Hallmark movies — including 2024’s Family Practice Mysteries: Coming Home. Next, she will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man TV show, Spider-Noir.

Dulé Hill (Alex Williams)

Also recurring before joining the main ensemble was Alex Williams — played by Emmy nominee Dulé Hill, who was previously known from the West Wing cast and fellow USA hit Psych, which spawned three feature-length continuations he also starred in. Today, Hill plays Bill Williams on ABC’s The Wonder Years reboot and has been cast in an upcoming Hulu miniseries based on the story of Natalia Grace called Good American Family. He is also reuniting with Psych co-star James Roday Rodriguez for a dramedy called American Dog.

Katherine Heigl (Samantha Wheeler)

Essentially brought in as Meghan Markle’s replacement was former Grey’s Anatomy cast member Katherine Heigl as Zane Specter Litt’s newest partner, Samanatha Wheeler. The Emmy-winner later found a starring role on Netflix's hit drama Firefly Lane in 2021 and starred in a psychological thriller called Fear of Rain the same year. Heigl is set to star in a romantic-comedy musical called That’s Amore! and is playing the first female presidential candidate, Victoria Woodhull, in an upcoming miniseries called Woodhull.

In addition to these main Suits cast members, we also wanted to highlight Robert Zane actor Wendell Pierce (who went on to star on Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan series), Abigail Spencer (who currently stars on NBC’s Extended Family) as Scottie, and Rachael Harris, whose notable credits after playing Sheila Sazs include Hulu’s Goosebumps series and Netflix’s Unfrosted. Could we see any of them reunite with Gabriel Macht in Suits L.A.? For now, the jury is still out.

In 2023, the beloved legal drama Suits' cast and crew learned first-hand how dramatically the mythical "Netflix bump" can affect a project's pop culture trajectory, as the USA series made itself comfortable among the streaming service's most popular licensed series, and went on to become the most streamed TV show of the year. It was enough to spark a pilot order at NBC for the spinoff Suits: L.A., though fans are still waiting to hear whether Patrick J. Adams will ever return to Suits in some form or fashion.

While it doesn’t appear as if Mike Ross will be part of the fun in the Los Angeles-set offshoot, which cast Arrow vet Stephen Amell as its lead, Adams definitely hasn’t been lazily resting on his laurels, and now has two high-profile streaming shows on the way. And that’s on top of a movie and a Suits-centered podcast with Sarah Rafferty. Let’s take a look at where we’ll see the Sneaky Pete vet in the near future.

Wayward

The latest project that has confirmed Patrick J. Adams as part of its cast is the upcoming limited series Wayward, which was previously going by the working title Tall Pines. A thriller created by The Flight Attendant co-star and Baroness Von Sketch Show writer Mae Martin, it’s set in a somewhat pleasant rural town with sinister things happening just below the surface. The plotline will showcase intergenerational struggles while also exploring the depths of the area’s “troubled teen industry,” though it’s a bit unclear what that refers to.

Wayward will star Martin as Alex Dempsey, with Ferrari’s Sarah Gadon supposedly set to play her partner, and The Cleaning Lady’s Brandon Jay McLaren is also co-starring, though details on his role are currently still unknown. The latest casting news also includes Chucky’s Alyvia Alyn Lind, Killers of the Flower Moon’s Josh Close, Big Sky’s Patrick Gallagher, and Davey & Jonsie’s Locker star Sydney Topliffe, all of whom are noted as being recurring guest stars.

The same goes for Patrick J. Adams, whose role specifics aren’t fully revealed, though Deadline reports that the Suits vet is likely set to portray a high school counselor. Not quite the same as serving up legal counsel within the world of Suits, but it sounds like it could be a key role within this story of teen exploitation.

Lockerbie

With Wayward being one of the first commissions from Netflix Canada, the streaming giant is teaming up with the BBC for the upcoming limited series Lockerbie, which boasts Patrick J. Adams as one of its leads. The series is based on the harrowing real-world events surrounding the 1988 plane bombing above the Scottish town of Lockerbie that killed 190 Americans and 43 British citizens (among others). It’s noted for being the first major terrorist attack against the U.S.

The new show kicked off filming in Scotland in March, with the production also taking place in Malta and Canada. It’s set to focus on the decades-long investigation into the bombing and crash, which has been complicated due to the involvement of various authorities from across the globe, as well as putting focus on the effects the tragedy had on not just the families who lost loved ones, but also the titular town and its citizens. The story is said to cover the process up until the 2022 indictments. (A trial for a second suspect in the case is currently set for 2025.)

Adams will co-star with Sex Education’s Connor Swindells, Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever, Ozark’s Peter Mullan, Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan, Mary & George’s Tony Curran and more in the new show. That said, it’s still unclear what role he’ll be playing. The most likely choices are either an American family member who lost a loved one, or one of the Americans involved with the investigation.

Even without any release windows locked down, it's safe to say neither show will be finished and ready to premiere on Netflix's 2024 schedule. 2025, however, seems more likely for release timing.

Could Patrick J. Adams still reprise the role of Mike Ross in a future Suits revival season? Certainly, especially considering he chose to return for the final season on USA. But it’ll take both a gap in his schedule and a proper avenue for Mike to pop back up.

As Suits’ resurgence continues, with Season 9 arriving next month to Netflix subscribers, the cast participated in some Super Bowl commercials earlier this year. Now, two of the OG cast members want to capitalize on the show’s success, as Patrick J. Adams and Sarah Rafferty are launching a Suits podcast in the near future. However, if not for Gabriel Macht, Rafferty wouldn’t have been on the series, and the legal drama would have looked a whole lot different.

Rafferty’s Donna Paulsen was Harvey Specter’s secretary-turned COO of the law firm and confidante throughout most of the show. Since Donna and Harvey had a special bond, both personal and professional, it would make sense that whoever played Donna would have to be perfect for the part that was initally just going to be a small part. Former USA Network president Jeff Wachtel recalled casting Rafferty at ATX Festival (via Deadline) and how it came to be, all thanks to Macht:

Additionally, Rafferty also looked back at that time before Suits, as she had another pilot that didn’t get picked up. Her old friend Macht convinced her to audition for Donna, and of course she landed the role after she flew cross-country herself just to read for the part. It’s hard to imagine Suits without Harvey and Donna’s relationship, even if it was complicated at times. The fact that Rafferty and Macht are also old friends makes it even better.

Sarah Rafferty was one of few to stay on Suits the entire nine-season run, alongside Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman. It’s possible that if Macht didn’t passionately suggest Rafferty for the role, Donna Paulsen wouldn’t have been on the show for very long. She basically ran the law firm even if everyone else didn’t exactly know it. It’s a good thing Macht told her to audition, because it is hard to imagine Harvey having witty conversations and putting his trust into Donna not played by Rafferty.

The same can be said for everyone on the Suits cast, really. As I see it, the reason why the show went on for nine seasons is not just because of the fans, but also because of the cast and their characters, how invested people were in their storylines, and the chemistry everyone had with each other. It’s pretty crazy to think now that the show is continuously being talked about, and Suits is living on with upcoming spinoff Suits L.A. Perhaps the same thing will happen for that cast. If not for a particular character being upped to series regular and being played by the perfect actor, who knows what could happen.

At the time, Gabriel Macht may not have known how much he really changed Suits by bringing up Sarah Rafferty. It’s unknown who else might have been in the running for Donna Paulsen, but at least fans don’t have to worry about that. Those with a Peacock subscription can watch all of their favorite Donna moments if they don’t have Netflix and see just why the show is a lot better with her.

This September will mark five years since Suits concluded its run on USA Network, but the legal drama is a bigger deal now than it was when it was airing. This is thanks to the millions of Netflix subscribers who streamed the show’s first eight seasons in 2023, and it still continues to be a popular streaming choice on the platform. In the midst of this success, Patrick J. Adams and Sarah Rafferty, two of Suits’ original stars, are working on a project that will deliver all kinds of behind-the-scenes information about the show, and I think this is a great idea.

Adams and Rafferty, who respectively played Mike Ross and Donna Paulsen, have signed on to host a Suits rewatch podcast for SiriusXM. As reported by Deadline, the podcast doesn’t have a title yet, but along with the duo set to share behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the series, they’ll be joined by other Suits cast and crew members, as well as fans. This is the latest TV rewatch podcast that SiriusXM has lined up, with others older shows being explored at the broadcasting corporation including The Office and Parks & Recreation. Adams and Rafferty said the following in an official statement:

Patrick J. Adams and Sarah Rafferty were two of the six actors who made up Suits’ original main cast, with the other four being Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle and Gina Torres. However, only Rafferty stuck around for the entirety of Suits’ run, as Adams exited as a series regular in the Season 7 finale, the same time Markle made her last appearance as Rachel Zane. Adams would then recur in Season 9. Later main cast members include Amanda Schull, Dulé Hill and Katherine Heigl.

This is yet another way Suits’ success has been capitalized on following its success on Netflix. Rafferty, Torres and Hoffman appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for the makeup company e.l.f. earlier this year, and Adams and Macht appeared together in a T-Mobile TV spot. With the podcast, though, now viewers will have extra content to enjoy as they’re watching the show, whether it’s for the first time or a return to old friends. It is worth noting, though, that only Suits’ first eight seasons are on Netflix; you’ll need a Peacock subscription to stream the final one.

But if a Suits rewatch podcast isn’t enough for you on top of the non-season show, not to worry, as there’s one more goodie on the way. NBC has greenlit a pilot called Suits L.A., which stars Arrow’s Stephen Amell. This spinoff hasn’t been ordered to series yet, but if it is, then viewers will get to keep exploring the world that Suits birthed later on in the 2024 TV schedule, and maybe there will be opportunities for actors from the original show to stop by.

While it is now a somewhat distant memory, the Arrowverse took both DC comics fans and those who loved The CW by storm for over a decade. Viewers were able to enjoy six (sort of) interconnected shows centered around popular comic book superheroes, and the genesis of that TV universe came from the beloved Arrow in 2012, which starred Stephen Amell as the embattled titular vigilante. Now, he’s headed back to Vancouver to film another pilot “almost 12 years to the day” after he filmed the pilot that made him famous. But, this time he’ll be suiting up in a very different way.

What Did Stephen Amell Say About Filming A New Pilot And What’s He Working On?

After eight seasons of triumphs, tragedies, fighting, friendship, love and a lot of weirdness, Stephen Amell was finally able to give Oliver Queen a happy ending in early 2020. The years since saw him suit up to play a wrestler on the Starz drama, Heels, for two seasons, and now he’s headed back to Vancouver to film a brand new pilot, telling fans on Instagram:

I can bet that it really is “surreal” for the actor, who basically made a home of the Canadian city while filming his DC hit there from 2012 through late 2019, when the stars shared lots of heartfelt farewells after they wrapped on the series finale. Now, he’s “so excited” to be back in British Columbia, but he did leave fans hanging on what exactly it is that he’s filming.

Luckily, while he didn’t confirm it, his new project is hardly a huge mystery, as the salmon ladder champ was recently announced as the lead of the new Suits spinoff, Suits L.A., and seeing as how it was scheduled to start filming in the city he happens to now be in at the time Amell is now there, well, it’s not hard to put together that his time as a Los Angeles legal eagle has probably begun!

As we likely all know by now, Suits had a massive run last year after the first eight seasons became a hit for those with a Netflix subscription in the summer. That led to a huge amount of interest in creator Aaron Korsh revisiting the world in some way, and he came through with an idea set in Los Angeles, with brand new “amazing looking people in great clothes” starring.

It was in mid-February that we found out that Amell landed another TV gig in the form of the lead in Suits L.A. He’s portraying Ted Black in the pilot, a “charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others,” and started his entertainment/criminal law firm 15 years prior to the events of the potential series with his best friend, Stuart Lane (who’ll be played by The Walking Dead alum, Josh McDermitt).

I know everyone is just as excited as the star is for Suits L.A., but it’s important to remember that, as of right now, NBC has only ordered a pilot for the drama, but we’ll surely hear about whether or not we can expect a full series of the spinoff in the coming weeks.

Suits wrapped up its nine-season run on USA in 2019, and yet the legal drama somehow enjoyed one of its most successful years to date in 2023, thanks to its arrival on Netflix. It became the most streamed series of the year, sparking NBCUniversal to order a new spinoff from creator Aaron Korsh, and fans are definitely pumped about the impending arrival of Suits: L.A., but let’s kick off a new round of celebrations now that former flagship lead Patrick J. Adams has landed his next big TV show.

Adams portrayed attorney Mike Ross for seven seasons and change on Suits, and followed that up with a couple of roles stemming from real-life stories: Disney+’s The Right Stuff and Prime Video’s A League of Their Own. (Sneaky Pete and Plan B were less reality-based.) Now, everyone with Netflix subscriptions will see him in another drama based on true events, Lockerbie, which will be co-produced by the streaming giant and the BBC.

The scripted drama will document the harrowing 1988 event that came to be known as the “Lockerbie bombing,” involving the transatlantic Pan Am Flight 103 exploding in the air above the Scottish town of the same name, killing hundreds of people. Beyond the tragedy, which is recognized as the largest terror attack within the U.K., the series will also focus on the years-long investigation that followed, which spanned both sides of the Atlantic, given that 190 of the 270 victims were Americans. 

With a federal trial currently set for 2025 for one suspect who was indicted for participating in the bombing, the traumatizing event’s impact definitely hasn’t faded over time, and according to Deadline, the project will cover investigation details that stretch from the earliest searches for physical evidence all the way to the indictment made in 2022.

While no details were given about who Patrick J. Adams will be portraying in the new drama, we do know that he’ll be surrounded by plenty of familiar and talented faces. Check out the full list of Lokerbie cast members below:

Filming has already kicked off in Scotland for Lockerbie, which has novelist Jonathan Lee set as lead writing, and Chimericas filmmaker MIchael Keillor directing. The project owes much of its legitimacy to filmmaker Adam Morane-Griffiths, who was granted access to take part in extensive interviews with various authority figures from the Scottish police force as well as investigative agencies in the U.S., with a number of those interviews serving as the first time the men and women have spoken at length about the bombing.

Given how many eyeballs were on Patrick J. Adams throughout 2023, Lockerbie would be a winner if it lands even a percentage of that group. Not that he’s shied from the spotlight in the aftermath of Suits’ killer run on Netflix. To the contrary, in 2024 already, he reunited with Gabriel Macht for the Globes as well as for a Super Bowl commercial, at which point they offered advice for the spinoff cast. He’s not currently in talks to appear in Suits: L.A. at all, but hopefully that’ll change in time.

It’s not clear when Lockerbie will hit Netflix’s upcoming schedule, but stay tuned for more details. And try not to get confused when updates come out about that other upcoming streaming series about the bombing, because Peacock is indeed producing one starring Colin Firth.

We’ve known for months that the 2025 TV schedule would bring us new episodes of returning favorites, as well as new shows, but there was a time when no one would have expected that Suits L.A., starring Arrow alum Stephen Amell, would be one of them. It’s not often that a series wraps up its final season after a long run, and then becomes way more popular a whole four years after that finale, but that’s exactly what happened in the summer of 2023 when the USA drama Suits debuted for everyone with a Netflix subscription.

Though the legal show (which starred Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Meghan Markle, Patrick J. Adams, Gina Torres and more) definitely had fans and ran for nine seasons, it eventually became the streaming success of 2023. Even better, those huge streaming numbers led to talk of a Suits spinoff in October 2023, and a new show set in the same world, Suits L.A., was ordered to series after quickly entering production in the spring of 2024. Here’s everything we know so far about Suits L.A.!

What Is The Suits L.A. Premiere Date?

Suits L.A. obviously got some pretty good news after filming a pilot, and we now know that it will premiere on February 23. TV in 2025 just got a lot more...legal. YAY!

The Suits L.A. Trailer

It was in late January 2025 that we finally got a good look at the action and players who will populate Suits L.A., and as you can see from the above clip, we're in store for a lot of politicking, intense partnerships, unexpected relationships, surprising cases and more! This includes the appearance of someone that fans of the original series will remember well, which we'll get into in a bit.

What Is Suits L.A. About?

Even though what fans new and old would probably like is to catch up with Donna, Harvey, Mike, Rachel and the other legal aces they know and love, this spinoff will not focus on any previously established characters from O.G. Suits. Instead, the new drama is simply set in the same world, and will follow a brand new character named Ted Black in Los Angeles, and the assorted other “amazing looking people in great clothes” he's acquainted with.

Though we did get a synopsis early in 2024 for the upcoming show, when the spinoff was ordered to series in July, we got another official report from NBC that tells us important details about Mr. Black, a former federal prosecutor who’s relocated from New York and now works for incredibly influential clients at his firm, which specializes in both entertainment and criminal law, and his West Coast story:

We’ve already got everything we need here. A somewhat haunted/troubled lead dealing with a big current problem, while being surrounded by colleagues who “mix their personal and professional lives.” Gimmie it!

The Suits L.A. Cast

Let’s take a look at who we know will populate the Suits L.A. cast when it finally hits the small screen:

Stephen Amell As Ted Black

February 2024 saw Suits L.A. nab its first official cast member, in the form of former Arrow and Heels lead Stephen Amell, who’ll bring Ted Black to life. TV Line offered up additional details about the character when announcing the news, and said that Ted is known as a “charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others,” something that the Oliver Queen actor definitely knows how to play.

Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane

Shortly after Amell was announced as the lead, the network revealed that actor Josh McDermitt would take on the role of Stuart Lane, Ted’s old friend who formed the firm Black Lane Law with him 15 years before the start of the series. Stuart is described as being “energetic, powerful, focused and self-absorbed,” but we don’t know how he’ll fit into the overall story just yet.

If Josh McDermitt’s name sounds familiar to you, it’s likely because you’ll recognize him from his time as one of The Walking Dead cast members who was in the most episodes, as eventually-capable survivor, Eugene.

Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins

Another cast member and their character was announced a few days after McDermitt and his Stuart, and that is Lex Scott Davis as attorney Erica Rollins. According to NBC, Rollins is billed as a “savvy and strong-willed rising star at the firm who is shrewd enough to test the loyalty of her associates only to admire some of them for not having any.” It absolutely sounds like she’ll be a force to be reckoned with!

Davis has been in a number of shows and movies, including the Training Day series, The First Purge, The L Word: Generation Q, Rebel, Florida Man and Ricky Stanicky.

The network also announced that Bryan Greenberg will play Rick Dodson on the drama. When speaking with Entertainment Weekly in December 2024, the actor opened up about his character (who's in competition with Rollins to be named head of entertainment at the firm) and called Rick "the moral compass of the show," adding:

Greenberg has starred in numerous television series and films over the years, including How to Make It in America, October Road, The Mindy Project, The Vince Staples Show, and Friends with Benefits. He might be best known for portraying Jake Jagielski on One Tree Hill.

Other cast members who’ve been announced are Troy Winbush (The Goldbergs, Chicago Fire), and Alice Lee (My Adventures with Superman, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), but their characters haven’t been revealed just yet.

Original Suits Cast Member Gabriel Macht Will Be A Recurring Guest Star

Ooooooo! This is what the fans were looking for, right? It was in late November that Gabriel Macht teased via an Instagram post that he was returning as Harvey Specter, which was confirmed by NBC soon after. The brief trailer lets us know that he was actually a friend of Ted's when he was still in New York, with Amell explaining to EW that they "came up together in the D.A.'s office" and saying that he believes "that dynamic is something the viewers will really enjoy."

How Many Episodes Will There Be In Suits L.A. Season 1?

OK, this one is an unfortunate unknown right now, because no information on how many episodes we’ll get in the first season have been released. On top of that, it’s hard to make a good guess, as while network series tend to get seasons of about 22 episodes, it’s not uncommon for the first season, at least, to be given more like 12-13 episodes to see if it really connects with viewers.

The good news is, if the drama starts on the lower end of that scale, NBC can up the episode count during Season 1 if it proves to be a Suits-on-Netflix level smash hit. We’ll just have to see what the future brings.

Suits Creator Aaron Korsh Is A Writer And Executive Producer On The Spinoff

When the potential spinoff went into development in October 2023, Deadline reported that Aaron Korsh, the man who created Suits, would be the one bringing us this new story. Not only did he executive produce (alongside fellow Suits EPs Doug Liman, Dave Bartis and Gene Klein), and also write the pilot, but he’s also listed as the creator, and a writer/EP of the series overall. So, fans should be comforted to know that even though they’ll be treated to new characters and a different setting, the story will still feel like the one they already love.

We Don't Know If Other Original Cast Members Will Appear, But Many Of Them Are Open To It

If you’re hoping to see some of the other original characters and cast members pop up on Suits L.A., know that there aren’t any confirmed plans for that just yet. But, several of the actors from the parent show have said that they’d be down to bring their characters back for some more action, if asked.

People caught up with Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson), Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt), and Sarah Rafferty as they filmed a 2024 Super Bowl commercial, and Rafferty said of the pilot filming:

In 2024, Patrick J. Adams joined Gabriel Macht to present at the Golden Globe Awards, filmed a funny spot for a different Super Bowl commercial and joked about advice they’d give the new cast, so it seems likely that, if asked, Adams would be willing to bring Mike to Los Angeles.

To top it off, Wendell Pierce, who portrayed Rachel’s dad, Robert Zane, recently said he’d “love to come back,” so if the spinoff does well on NBC, it sounds like there’s hope for future appearances from the original gang of legal eagles!

Most people were probably greatly surprised in the latter half of 2023 when Suits became the streaming success story of the year. Though the drama had many fans, which led to its nine-season run on USA (which ended in 2019), once the first eight seasons became a hit for those with a Netflix subscription, its popularity took off like nobody’s business. All the attention led directly to the show’s creator being given the chance to do a spinoff, now titled Suits L.A., and two stars of the original, Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, have joked about the advice they’d give to the new cast, but I think they make some good points.

What Advice Did Patrick J. Adams And Gabriel Macht Have For The Suits Spinoff Cast?

While all of the Suits love made many of the legal drama’s admirers hope for new episodes so they could watch Harvey, Mike, Rachel, Donna and the gang again, creator Aaron Korsh admitted that he was fine without a revival. However, when given the opportunity to revisit the world he created, he opted for doing something similar but with new “amazing looking people,” and is now working on the pilot for Suits L.A. for NBC. 

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht as they filmed their spot for the 2024 T-Mobile Super Bowl commercial, and offered some funny, but very practical advice for the new stars, as Adams said:

See? Funny, but also makes total sense, right? Along with Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and several others, Adams and Macht portrayed lawyers on the series, and I bet you can guess what lawyers do a lot of (aside from argue and make a lot of money). They wear dress shoes and also stand and/or walk a lot in those fancy shoes. 

So, all of the actors were usually filming while wearing shoes that were likely not comfortable once they got a few hours into a long work day. I can imagine many actors changing into tennis shoes or even house shoes whenever their feet weren’t going to be on camera. The duo continued:

Macht: If they can get their hands on a digital device where they can take the dialogue and download it to a little chip and stick it in their head, it might be a lot easier for them to say the words every day.

Adams: I had no problem with that, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and you’re going to have a ball because Aaron’s a great writer, and they’re good people to make a show with.

Ah, yes. The difficulties of speaking legalese must be right up there when it comes to medical jargon or anything seriously scientific. Even if you’ve read a lawsuit filing or two in your day and managed to understand it, that probably doesn’t compare to standing around in tight shoes and having to sound like a for-real lawyer for days on end, as Macht alludes to.

His former co-star is likely kidding at least a bit when he says that he didn’t have any issues with nailing his legal dialogue, but then did go on to give some good additional advice. Suits L.A. wouldn’t even be on the table if the creator hadn’t hit on something great when coming up with his original idea and helping the show navigate a successful nine seasons, so taking the work one day at a time (like with most other things in life) is the best way to play it.

Suits had a good run on the USA Network from 2011 to 2019, but last year saw the legal show soaring to new heights of popularity thanks to its first eight seasons becoming available for Netflix subscribers to stream. It ultimately became the most streamed TV show of 2023, and now the pilot for a Suits spinoff has been greenlit by NBC. Now Wendell Pierce, who played Robert Zane, the father of Meghan Markle’s Rachel, has weighed in on both this streaming success and the possibility of him reprising Robert in this spinoff.

Addressing the latter subject first, because the officially-titled Suits L.A. is set in the same world as its predecessor rather than a complete separate affair, the door is certainly open for Suits actors to stop by the spinoff. So while speaking with TV Insider, Pierce, who more recently starred as James Greer in Jack Ryan (which can be streamed with an Amazon Prime Video subscription) expressed interest in filling Robert Zane’s shoes again with these words:

Although he was never a series regular on Suits, Wendell Pierce nonetheless maintained an import presence on the show, recurring as Robert Zane in all but Season 1. He even ended up becoming a name partner at the main firm, although by the end of Season 8, the character was disbarred because he took the blame for Gabriel Macht;’ Harvey Specter breaking attorney-client privilege as a way to redeem himself for breaking the law on a different matter when he was younger. As such, if Robert did appear in Suits L.A., we wouldn’t see him actually practicing law like before, though that shouldn’t be an insurmountable barrier to incorporating him into whatever story’s being told.

If Suits L.A. is ordered to series, viewers will follow along with Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who’s now representing powerful clients in Los Angeles, but must deal with his firm hitting a “crisis point.” Ted’s New York past could be enough to tie him to Robert Zane, but even assuming the show happens, don’t assume the spinoff will immediately start delving into crossover territory. After all, a show like this deserves some time to shine on its own before it starts pulling in characters from the hit show that preceded it.

As for his thoughts on how well Suits itself has done for itself over the last year on streaming (remember that all nine seasons can be streamed with a Peacock subscription), Wendell Pierce had the following to say:

Pierce’s latest comments come shortly after he got real about the trolling Meghan Markle has gotten and reminded his former costar that wherever she and her husband Prince Harry are in the world, he’s still their friend. Speaking of the Duchess of Sussex, it’s rumored that she might make her return to TV for Suits L.A., and while that would obviously pave the way for a Rachel Zane reprisal, apparently there’s a new character who might be a good fit for her too. Again, nothing is set in stone with this, though as someone who watched Suits during his original run, I’d more into the prospect of Rachel and Robert being back onscreen together.

Now this spinoff has not only gotten some great news, we finally have some concrete plot details to absorb.

Following the news from earlier this month that the Suits spinoff was being developed as a pilot for NBC, outlets like THR have announced that the network has officially ordered said pilot. While that doesn’t mean just yet that the officially-titled Suits L.A. will be turned into a series, it’s still a big step forward for the project. Like its predecessor, Suits L.A. comes from the mind of Aaron Korsh, whose executive producing alongside Dave Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein, all of whom were also EPs on Suits. Victoria Mahoney is  directing the pilot.

The pilot’s production is scheduled to begin in March in Vancouver, and if Suits L.A. is ordered to series, it will air sometime during the 2024-2025 TV season. As for the plot, the spinoff will focus on a new group of characters, with the main lead being Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself to represent powerful clients in the City of Angels. Per the official description:

No casting for Suits L.A. has happened yet, and while the spinoff will exists in the same universe as Suits, it remains to be seen if any characters will appear should this become a series. Although USA Network is reportedly gearing up to resume making scripted shows, it was decided to develop Suits L.A. for broadcast television instead. So now we have to wait a few months for the pilot to be shot and for NBC to decide if it wants to dedicate airtime to it in the next TV season or pass.
