There was a time when it never seemed like Sung Kang’s Han Lue would return to the Fast & Furious franchise. After all, Fast & Furious 6’s end-credits scene and Furious 7 re-depicted the character’s death that was first shown back in Tokyo Drift, but in F9, it was revealed that his demise was a ruse set up by Mr. Nobody. So now Han is back to being a regular member of Dominic Toretto’s family, which is fitting considered that family is involved with why Kang keeps coming back to the Fast & Furious movies.

Kang is only a few years away from approaching the 20th anniversary of his Fast & Furious debut, and while money obviously factors into him continuing to play Han Lue (as it would with any actor), that’s not the only reason he’s still playing Han. However, as the actor said while stopping by DUMBFOUNDEAD, returning to the role wasn’t even conceivable to him just half a decade ago:

Maybe Sung Kang didn’t think at the beginning of 2019 that reprising Han was ever in the cards, but he must’ve learned it was quite the opposite soon after considering that F9, the movie that brought his character back, began filming that June. By early 2020, the first F9 trailer revealed that Han was still alive, and audiences learned about the circumstances of his survival when the movie was finally released in summer 2021. But as Kang went on to say, five years ago, he wasn’t keen on being closely tied to Fast & Furious:

I don’t blame him for feeling this way, as many actors don’t want to be typecast in certain roles, and some have even found trouble getting jobs because they’re so well known for playing a specific character. However, Kang then explained that learning how much the Fast & Furious franchise means to people caused him to change his tune:

Considering the positive reaction from the fanbase for Han’s return in F9, Sung Kang is certainly correct that this character, and the Fast & Furious franchise as a whole, means a lot to people. So while playing Han is a job for him first and foremost, he’s also fully aware of the character’s importance, continuing:

Later on in the interview, Kang added that he not only welcomes the opportunity to keep driving around in cool cars in these movies, but also likes continuing to work with actors he’s known for many years and considers part of his own family, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris:

Universal Pictures officially has two Fast & Furious movies lined up: Fast 11, i.e. the direct sequel to Fast X, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes, which will see Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa’s title characters clashing in an interlude story set between X and 11. Sung Kang will likely return for the latter movie, but with Vin Diesel having also indicated last year that The Fast Saga’s finale could be extended into a trilogy, there’s also the possibility of seeing Han back in action with his cohorts in Fast 12, assuming the project gets greenlit. However much longer this franchise goes on for, Kang sounds like he’s content to keep enjoying the ride.

Sung Kang is already known for playing a pretty iconic character in the Fast & Furious franchise, but it turns out the actor has a particular love for the horror genre, and has one character that he would love to play on film if given the chance. I’d say we’re probably about due for another attempt at rebooting the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, so how about Sung Kang playing Freddy Krueger?

Sung Kang recently directed his first feature, a horror-comedy called Shaky Shivers and he spoke with Collider about the project, as well as his general love of horror movies that he had growing up. He has a particular love for the prosthetics work of the ‘80s that brought so many classic characters to life. And now that he’s had a small taste of that himself, following his joining the Obi-Wan series cast, he thinks he might be up for being transformed into the Nightmare on Elm Street villain if given the chance. Kang said…

There are few horror movie villains on the same level as Freddy Krueger, to be sure. His choice of clothing, the sweater and the hat, the burned body, and then, on top of that, the glove full of blades, all combine to make a an iconic character... even to those of us who were supposed to be too young to watch the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. 

The last Nightmare on Elm Street movie was the 2010 reboot that starred Jackie Earle Haley as the slasher role made famous by Robert England. That movie didn’t launch a new franchise. While it actually made more money than most Freddy Kreuger movies, general consensus was the new Nightmare on Elm Street was terrible, and thus it all remained pretty quiet in Springfield since then. There was talk a few years ago of yet another Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, but we haven't heard much recently. Even if that particular project has died, it's likely only a matter of time before we see Freddy again.

Kang admits that he’s not sure he has the stamina for the prosthetics that it would take to become Freddy Krueger. At the same time, as somebody who loves the craft, he’d probably be much more willing to go through with it all than a lot of people. 

After years of thinking that Sung Kang’s Han Lue had died during the events of Tokyo Drift/Furious 7, the character resurfaced during F9, with it being revealed that his death had been faked. However, Han didn’t return to the Fast & Furious fold alone, as during his time in hiding, he was looking after a girl named Elle, played as an adult by Anne Sawai. Strangely though, Elle was nowhere to be seen during Fast X, but Kang has shared that the 2023 new movie release was originally supposed to acknowledge her whereabouts.

Because Han and the rest of Dominic Toretto’s crew were so busy dealing with Jason Momoa’s maniacal Dantes Reyes, it makes sense why there wasn’t time to check in on Elle during the events of Fast X, but it was still unusual that she wasn’t mentioned at all. Thanks to the below statement from Kang while speaking with Insider, we at least now know that there were plans to reference her, but they were ultimately tabled:

Sung Kang went on to talk about how discussions Diesel had with director Louis Leterrier and the Fast X producers about things like Han’s motivations, what makes him tick, what keeps him on the straight line, etc. The answer to all that was Elle, who essentially became Han’s adopted daughter when Mr. Nobody tasked him with taking care of her after her parents were killed. Kang then shared that Elle is “in school,” and while the filmmakers wanted to incorporate her into the Fast X story, “there’s just so much real estate. It’s probably for the best that Elle is getting an education rather than racing around and risking death around each corner. The actor continued:

Warning: SPOILERS for Fast X are ahead!

The good news is that with the main Fast Saga’s finale having been expanded to a trilogy, plus Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs scoring his own spinoff (not to be confused with the previously-discussed Hobbs & Shaw 2), there are plenty of places where Elle could reappear. That’s on top of another important woman from Han’s life who’s reentered the picture. The Fast X ending revealed that Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar, who was thought to have died in Fast & Furious 6, is also still walking the Earth, as she was seen aboard a submarine rendezvousing with Letty Ortiz and Cipher. Perhaps after she’s done reuniting with Han (we all know it’s coming), there will come a time when Gisele will meet Elle, making the former a mother figure to the latter.

In addition to still playing in theaters, Fast X is now available on premium video on demand, and it will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD on August 28. If you’d rather revisit Elle’s time in F9, Max subscribers can easily stream that movie.

Admit it: as a fan of The Fast and the Furious series of films, disbelief has officially been permanently suspended. Cars can fly, and sometimes the plots of the past need a little fudging to introduce a Jason Momoa-level threat in Fast X. But sometimes there’s an aspect --- like the haircut on Sung Kang’s Han in one particular scene -- that really brings the continuity into question. Strangely enough, the filmmakers knew they were playing with fact-based fire, but just rolled with it anyway. 

Han Lue’s Hairy Fast And Furious Continuity Error

For those of you who love the death-defying driver introduced in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, you may have noticed something interesting in the newer 2023 movie release. In case you missed it, or were uncertain, yes Han's hair does change between the two different versions of his reunion with previous foe Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).

In the F9 mid-credits scene, the character has a pretty short cut on display when he makes the fateful visit; which technically takes place four years in the future. This timeline-questioning scene plays out in the middle of Fast X, with Han now sporting a longer head of hair. Half of the reason for this mix-up is because of a decision that Sung Kang made during the production of F9, which he revealed in an interview with Insider:

As if Han Lue’s Fast Saga history wasn’t already interesting enough, we as fans now have dueling hairstyles to keep track of. Sure enough, the decision to revert to Han’s classic look for Fast X was just as purposeful.

Why Fast X Rolled With That Han Error Anyway

It should be no surprise that Sung Kang was just as in the dark about when F9’s big Han and Shaw reunion took place on the timeline of events. In fact, it’s thanks to this scene that some major takeaways and theories about Fast X’s mid-credits scene have come to light, with its placement in the timeline being one of them.

So why would the actor bring his original hairstyle back for a scene that’s already established in the timeline? One reason: the fans. Here’s how he explains why his classic do was due to return:

Thematically, this all tracks. Lue’s path from supposed death to resurrection has been a Fast Saga thread that’s caught the attention of fans since the Fast and Furious timeline started to skew in his favor in 2009’s Fast & Furious. That said, there was a conscious effort to try and hide this difference without cutting the actor's hair again, which led to the following compromise:

As you can see in the photo above, put together from the Fast X trailer footage that showed Han’s return, that hair tuck is as close as things were going to get without digital magic. It’ll be interesting to see who noticed this continuity error and who didn’t, as it is a scene that leads quickly into an adrenaline-fueled showdown between The Agency’s finest and members of Dominic Toretto’s family.

So if you happen to stumble upon this scene down the line as this summer blockbuster heads home, know that it was all part of the plan. A plan that may now see Fast X’s narrative turn into one final trilogy, which could lead to even more hairstyle changes for Sung Kang and co.

Boys, we’re back! I’m overjoyed to report that we have reached the end of this nearly six-month journey through the first nine (plus Hobbs and Shaw) Fast and Furious movies, and we ended with a doozy. F9: The Fast Saga was a campy, over-the-top movie that saw the crew on a journey to stop Dom’s brother Jakob, and I loved it, which I realize is a hot take. Between going to space, some much-needed dramatic moments and an incredibly creative magnet car chase, I really enjoyed this movie, and would rank it fairly high among the other Fast films. However, I think what's most important is F9 was such a fun way to cap off this saga before we all see Fast X. 

Tej And Roman Going To Space Was Legendary

Throughout this entire series, I’ve written a lot about how much I wanted to see a car fly, which is abundantly clear if you’ve read my thoughts on Furious 7. Not only did my dreams come true with this movie, but how they made said car fly surpassed all expectations I had, as they sent Tej and Roman into space.

While I still don’t fully understand why the crew felt the need to go to space, it was by far one of my favorite moments in the franchise’s history. Part of the reason is that they sent the comedic and chaotic duo, Tej and Roman, up there. However, it also showed how willing the franchise is to lean into the ridiculousness of the saga and make creative decisions that are impossible in reality, but oh so much fun to watch on screen. 

We Finally Saw Some Genuinely Good Female Representation 

Over the last nine movies, one of my biggest qualms has been the lack of female representation and the hyper-masculine nature ingrained in every movie. While F9 was still hyper-masculine, this was the first one that really felt like it was giving Letty, Mia and the other women in the franchise their time to shine. By pairing Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster together for the Tokyo storyline, and by introducing Anna Sawai as Elle, Han’s kickass friend, the women were given an epic, and important storyline, and it was so refreshing to see.  

The Magnets Sequence Was Not Only Cool, But Incredibly Creative

We’ve seen tanks, and cars falling out of planes, but we’ve never seen a chase that relies on magnets to take down an enemy. I was blown away by this impossible stunt, and thought the way the movie used the magnets throughout was incredibly creative. 

Sadly, this stunt is very much not possible, as astrophysicist Aaron White explained to IGN: 

While explaining all the science behind how metals attract to one another, and at what point magnets can’t attract and pull other metals, he noted that some of what happened is “beyond what is impossible,” but also “not totally absurd.” However, I’d posit that it’s these totally absurd stunts that make these movies so fun. 

Basically, Everything Roman Said In The Movie Was Out Of This World 

While Roman has always been great comedic relief in these movies, they took it to a new level with his dialogue in F9. 

It’s safe to say Rome is the relative voice of reason in these movies, compared to the other characters, and for a while now he’s always been the one understandably freaking out and questioning the absurdness of the shenanigans the family gets up to. This movie took that idea to a whole new level, not only by upping the funny reactions from Tyrese Gibson’s character, but also by having him actually start to question if the crew is invincible. I thought it was actually hilarious that he's the only one who has seemed to realize that it’s really weird that there haven’t been many serious injuries or deaths among the crew who has been finding themselves in death-defying situations for the last 20 years.  

The Flashbacks And Young Actors Playing Dom And Jakob Added A Much Needed Dramatic Weight To The Movie 

I feel like it’s imperative for me to address right off the bat that I know young Dom and Jakob really convolute the Fast and Furious timeline. While they’re supposed to be quite a bit younger than the actors playing them, I must admit Vinnie Bennett, who played Young Dom, and Finn Cole, who played Young Jakob, brought a lot of depth to their characters, and really carried the movie dramatically.

Admittedly, I came in with some bias here, because as a big Peaky Blinders fan I was so excited to see Cole, who plays Michael on that show, in F9. His casting, along with the genuinely good performances from the two young actors really helped ground Dom and Jakob’s story, and is a big reason why I enjoyed this movie so much. And, I say this because we finally got a bigger reason as to why family is important beyond the crew just saying the word all the time. 

I Need To Talk About Han And How He Came Back To Life 

Knowing that Sung Kang returned to the Fast franchise before watching F9 had me hypothesizing for weeks about how they’d explain his comeback, because he seemed pretty dead after Tokyo Drift. In my opinion, the explanation was not logical at all; it was basically just like “because Mr. Nobody said so,” and they left it at that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so happy Han is back, however, there was absolutely no reasonable way to bring him back to life (lowkey a second time). I’m willing to overlook the illogical explanation about how he survived that explosion, however, when talking about this movie, it’s a topic we absolutely had to discuss. 

For some reason, they keep coming back to killing Han in Tokyo Drift, and it’s clear it’s also going to impact Fast X with Han and Shaw meeting up during the F9 ending. I don’t know why they keep harping on this plot point, and keep trying to justify why it didn’t actually happen, but it is entertaining to see all their kind of bonkers explanations as to how the fan-favorite character is still alive. 

Other Thoughts 

• Please give me a spinoff of Cardi B and her crew of agents. 
• Sean, Bow Wow, and the rocket men were a hilarious addition to the movie, that I loved. 
• Helen Mirren deserves her own Fast spinoff. 
• Time is a loose, possibly non-existent concept in this franchise, and I’m working really hard to accept this. 
• The homage to Brian and Paul Walker at the very end was sweet. 

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed F9; it was camp, extra, and over the top, which is everything I love about the Fast franchise. After two rough entries in the saga, I was ready to go back to form and be engulfed in the ridiculous world of Dominic Toretto’s family, and this did exactly that. Plus, it made me all the more excited to see the 2023 movie schedule entry, Fast X, when it finally zooms into theaters on May 19.

The 10th installment in the ridiculously popular Fast & Furious saga is finally upon us. Fans last caught up with Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto and the crew in 2021’s F9, and in Fast X — the first movie of a two-part finale (or possibly a trilogy, per Diesel) — the family will be confronted with their past. Jason Momoa joins the franchise as the son of Hernan Reyes from Fast Five, and he’s seeking revenge against Dom’s family for their role in his father’s death. With just a week until the blockbuster hits theaters, some have had the opportunity to attend an early screening, and they’re hitting social media with their first reactions.

In addition to Jason Momoa’s “flamboyant bad boy” Dante, others joining the Fast & Furious universe include Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior and Rita Moreno. The Fast X cast also returns a lot of our favorites from the past two decades, including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Cardi B, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Jason Statham, Helen Mirren and more. So let’s see what people are saying about the epic 10th film, starting with CinemaBlend’s Eric Eisenberg, who praises Momoa’s “gleeful psychopath,” tweeting: 

KIrsten Acuna of Insider is one of several people saying this feels like the franchise’s Infinity War, with Dante as Thanos. In her tweet thread, she says she ranks it about in the middle of the Fast & Furious movies and definitely has some quibbles, but overall can’t wait to see it again. Acuna’s full breakdown: 

Liam Crowley of Comicbook.com calls the film “utterly ridiculous,” but surely he means it in the very best way. Be sure to make it to the theater to see this one on the big screen, Crowley tweets:

Even Germain Lussier of Gizmodo, who calls Fast X the “worst Fast yet,” concedes that the Aquaman star is “God-Level” in his franchise introduction. His performance alone is worth the price of admission, Lussier says:

The impending release of Fast X has also brought about news regarding Dwayne Johnson’s future with the Fast & Furious franchise, after he was absent from F9. I’ll avoid saying anything more here, but fans who are invested in what’s going on with Luke Hobbs can click that link.

Overall, it sounds like audiences are in for another wild ride — and we’ve come to expect nothing less from these movies — and Jason Momoa sounds like a thrilling addition to an already stacked cast. For a long time in the Fast & Furious universe, Sung Kang’s Han Lue was thought to have died in a car accident during Tokyo Drift, but in Fast & Furious 6, it was revealed that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw deliberately rammed into him as part of his revenge plot against Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his allies, as seen in Furious 7. Then F9 came along and revealed that Han’s death had actually been faked by Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, but the F9 end-credits scene ended things on a tense note, with Han showing up at Shaw’s doorstep. While there are still a few weeks to go until Fast X’s release, a new clip from the 2023 new movie release has revealed what immediately happens next between those two characters.

You can head over to EW to watch their exclusive clip for yourself, but to summarize, Deckard Shaw is rightly on edge when Han Lue appears in front of him, as in his mind, the only reason a “dead guy” shows up at his door is for revenge. In reality, Han is there to talk about something tied to Fast X’s plot, and rather than pulling a gun from his jacket, he simply looking to enjoy one of his trademark snacks. Bur Deckard’s already in combat mode, pulling Han into the room and knocking the food out of his hand.

It also turns out that Han wasn’t alone, as Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pearce, Ludacris’ Tej Parker and Nathalie Emmanuel’s Ramsey were nearby, but they’re unable to make it inside before Shaw locks the door. As the team’s resident hacker, Ramsey immediately starts working to break through the security system, but in the meantime, Han is forced to go on the defensive. He tells Shaw he doesn’t want to fight, but Shaw isn’t hearing it and swiftly kicks his opponent in the chest. Talk about a pulse-pounding way to finally show these two properly meeting for the first time.

We’ll have to wait for the next Fast & Furious movie to come out to learn how this fight ends, but the good news is that the latest Fast X trailer set up that Han Lue and Deckard Shaw teaming up Though The Fate of the Furious showed Shaw teaming up with Dominic Toretto’s family to rescue his infant son from the clutches of Charlize Theron’s Cipher, Roman is still distrustful of him. It’s understandable given how long he and his friends thought Han was actually dead, but nevertheless, the threat posed by Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes, a villain with close ties to Fast Five, will require them all to put aside their differences for the greater good.

Although Jason Statham sat out the main events of F9, we got to see him back in action alongside Dwayne Johnson in the 2019 spinoff Hobbs & Shaw. While The Rock has since said he will not be returning to The Fast Saga before it concludes with Fast & Furious 11, it’s at least good to see Statham back in play, especially since it’s unclear if Hobbs & Shaw 2 will actually happen. But let’s not forget that this upcoming movie will also feature plenty of new faces beyond Jason Momoa’s antagonistic character, with Fast X’s cast including Brie Larson as Tess, Alan Ritchson as Agent Aimes and Rita Moreno as Dom, Mia and Jokob Toretto’s grandmother (and we can thank Moreno’s grandson for convincing Vin Diesel to cast her in the role).

Fast X races into theaters on May 17, and while Fast & Furious 11 doesn’t have a release date yet, it’s been confirmed that Louis Leterrier will reprise his directorial duties for the final installment. Use your HBO Max subscription if you’re interested in rewatching F9.

The saga continues as Sean makes his way to Japan for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and I’m here to tell you all my thoughts on this wild anomaly of a movie within the Fast franchise. When you look back at this interesting spin-off movie (that eventually works its way into the greater story) it’s one that fans seem to be torn on. While some reviews of Tokyo Drift are positive, others can’t stand it. Admittedly I fall in the middle. So, with that being said, let’s talk about this kind of wonky entry in the Fast and Furious franchise, and all the thoughts I had while watching it. 

The Mix Of Teens And Adults In This Movie Was Weird

I think if I would have seen this movie as a teen (or younger, I mean I was 7 when it came out) I would have thought the high schoolers hanging with the adults, drifting and getting in trouble would have been so cool. However, now, as an adult, I was so stressed the whole time. I’d like to illustrate said stress through a series of questions I pondered while watching the movie:

• Where on Earth were these kids' parents? 
• Why would these adults allow children to drift? You don’t want to be the one responsible for a kid getting injured because they did something illegal. 
• There was one guy, an adult, dating one of the high schoolers, um…why? 

While I know that I need to suspend myself above reality while watching these movies, and not think too hard about the implications of their actions, seeing Neela and D.K. date was too much for me. He’s an adult and she’s a child. It was weird. 

I’d Like To Make This An Appreciation Post About Bow Wow’s Hulk Themed Mini-Van

The cars in this movie were camp and don’t try to fight me on this point, because we all saw Bow Wow’s Hulk-ed out mini-van. While all the cars were campy and over top, nothing beat the bright green, Hulk-inspired vehicle that Twinkie drove, and I loved it. The over the top-ness of these movies is what makes them so fun, and while there wasn’t as much amplified action this time (more on that later) the cars were tricked out to the max, and ridiculously cool. 

This point is made abundantly clear by the mini-van that has Hulk's hands punched into it, a purple fur interior, Hulk’s face on the front, and bristles on the top to imitate hair. According to The News Wheel, this car was a 2005 Volkswagen Touran (Typ 1T), and per Best Movie Cars the vehicle was inspired by director Justin Lin’s love for the Bruce Banner-based TV show. Overall, I love the campy car and all the hidden meaning behind it. I hope more outrageous vehicles like this one show up in future films. 

The Theme Of Family Officially Emerged 

As I drove through the first two Fast and Furious movies I was always wondering when the theme of family would explicitly emerge. Sure, it was always implied, but this franchise has made its brand family, so I was curious when the word would be obviously used. Well, it finally was in Tokyo Drift when Sean talked about the other drivers being his family. I always thought it would be Vin Diesel to make this point abundantly clear, but it wasn’t it was Lucas Black.

I realized while watching this third film that the first two were more about two characters, who do not get along at first, coming together to defeat a common enemy. However, this movie was a lot more about the ensemble and the team coming together to support Sean, you know, like a family.

My Level Of Excitement When Vin Diesel Showed Up Is Comparable To When The Spider-Men Showed Up In No Way Home 

If you read my 2 Fast 2 Furious thoughts you know I was big mad that my man Vin Diesel wasn’t in the movie. And when I found out no one from the original film would be in Tokyo Drift I wasn’t thrilled, because I love that cast so much. 

Seeing Dominic Toretto show up in the final seconds of Tokyo Drift literally made me do a fist pump and yelp with joy. Much like how I felt when the Spider-Men came through the portals in Spider-Man: No Way Home. I can only imagine what the crowd’s reaction was when they saw the leader of the Fast franchise show up to race the lead of the latest movie. After two movies without the lead and none of the knowledge I have about what’s to come in the next six(ish) movies, I bet this was such an amazing surprise, I know it was for me. Now, I cannot wait to see the gang all back together again in Fast and Furious. 

Han Was The Perfect Mentor For Sean

Knowing that Han is a fan favorite, and seeing his relationship develop with Sean was easily a highlight of this movie. Their relationship reminded me a lot of Mr. Miyagi and Daniel LaRusso’s in The Karate Kid, clearly, the movie realized that too as Sean did make a comment about “wax on, wax off.” 

While I know I complained about the combination of kids and adults earlier, this is the exception to the rule. Sean needed Han to become a better person, and seeing his car explode with him in it was gut-wrenching, because we had seen the two develop such a close relationship. 

I loved that Han took a risk on Sean and taught him how to drift, at the expense of a lot of his own cars, and I love how much they cared for each other. Their relationship helped illuminate this theme of family and support, and it’s something I really admired, and am excited to see continue as we continue to speed through this franchise (because I know Han's not really dead). 

Less Drifting And More Jumping Please

If you read my The Fast And The Furious thoughts as well as my opinions on the sequel, you’ll know I love a big stunt. And sadly, while there was a lot of cool car action, there was nothing as massive and jaw-dropping as Dom hitting a semi or Brian jumping a car onto a yacht. 

While the drifting was cool, and quite impressive, it’s nothing like watching the big spectacles of action these movies are known for. I realized while watching this movie there is only so much drifting you can watch before it all kind of looks the same, at least to me, and because of that I’d like us to ditch the drift and go back to the jumps.

Other Thoughts

• Sean was low-key giving Bully Maguire energy. 
• The technology was very 2014 *wink, wink* 
• Romantic drifting…what a concept. 

Conclusion: It was fast and furious, however not faster or more furious than The Fast and the Furious, and not as off the rails as 2 Fast 2 Furious, and therefore not as fun.

Now, that we officially have a Fast X trailer, I’m super excited to continue down this road to the highly anticipated film on the 2023 movie schedule. Aside from Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto cameoing at the end, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift followed a brand-new lineup of characters. The 2006 movie saw Lucas Black’s Sean Boswell going to live with his father in Japan’s capital, and he soon found himself being mentored by Sung Kang’s Han Lue. Han’s car of choice in the third Fast & Furious movie was an orange 1997 Mazda RX-7 FD, and Kang has now reunited with that sweet ride during the filming of Fast X, though it doesn’t feel like any time has passed.

Tokyo Drift shot in the latter half of 2005, meaning over a decade and a half has passed between then and production on Fast X, the 10th entry in the main Fast & Furious film series, and 11th overall counting the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. You can see the side-by-side pictures below that Sung Kang shared on Instagram, showing the actor next to the car while working on Tokyo Drift compared to now in the midst of Fast X being put together:

Talk about aging gracefully! Sung Kang basically looks just like he did in Tokyo Drift, even though there’s almost two full decades of time between when those pictures were taken. More important, Kang was happy to be reunited with Han’s Mazda from the Tokyo Drift days, which is also still looking stellar in its older age. It’s doubtful this car was brought out just for a photo shoot, so I’m eager to see what Han does behind the wheel of it in Fast X.

Although Tokyo Drift showed apparently meeting a fiery death, thanks to the Fast & Furious franchise winding the clock back, we got to spend more time with him in Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6. Then the latter movie’s end-credits scene, as well as the main events of Furious 7, revisited Han’s presumed demise, showing that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw deliberately crashed into him. However, it was revealed in F9 that Han’s death was faked by Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, and spent the subsequent years in hiding protecting Anne Sawai’s Elle. Fortunately, now Han is reunited with his found family and resumed a life of racing, causing explosions and saving the world.

Story details are still being kept secret for Fast X, which was originally supposed to be directed by Justin Lin, but he left one week into production and was replaced by The Incredible Hulk’s Louis Leterrier. Among the familiar faces who will be back alongside Sung Kang and Han Lue are Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, Michael Rooker, Scott Eastwood, Cardi B and Jason Statham. A confrontation between Deckard Shaw and Han Lue was teased in F9’s mid-credits scene, but since Han is still alive and Deckard isn’t an antagonist anymore, hopefully these two can reach an understanding. As for Fast X’s newcomers, they include Jason Momoa as one of the villains, Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson and Rita Moreno as Dom, Mia and Jakob Toretto’s grandmother.

Fast X races into theaters on May 19, 2023, and our 2023 release schedule is now available to look through if you’re curious about the other movies slated to arrive next year.

Fast X is continuing the tradition of family in the two upcoming movies that will close out the Fast Saga. With the first part underway, Vin Diesel and his cinematic brethren are putting together the usual high octane action adventure you’d expect from the series. Through a new throwback photo of Sung Kang and Diesel’s actual sister/Fast producer Samantha Vincent, actual family and cinematic family intersect. Namely through the story of how Samantha helped bring Han back to the fold. 

Taking time from his busy Fast Saga schedule, Vin Diesel did what he does best: wax poetic on Instagram. In this new message, Diesel reflected on how Sung Kang came back to the table, despite his supposed on-screen death in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. As you’ll see below, Samantha Vincent was a very crucial part of that formula, and the rest was history: 

Talking about how happy he was to see Sung Kang back at it on the Fast X set, Vin Diesel tells the story about how Samantha Vincent ensured Han Lue would be back in the series for some time to come. A week in the Dominican Republic, and no pay for the actors or even Diesel himself, some may have rejected the opportunity. Not Kang, as his return would help set the table for Fast history to come.

Deep cut Fast Saga fans probably felt their eyes perk up when reading the title Los Bandoleros, as that short film occupies a specific place in the rather loopy Fast and Furious timeline. Directed by Vin Diesel himself, it returned both Sung Kang’s Han Lue and Diesel’s Dominic Toretto back into the Fast movie ecosystem. Bridging the gap between The Fast and the Furious and Fast & Furious, the story pairs the two up to show just why Dom wasn’t present in the second and third movies in the franchise.

The beginning of an interesting relationship the Fast Saga movies would have with Han Lue’s history, Kang’s character would eventually “die” again in Fast and Furious 6. Cut to last summer, when “Justice for Han” was finally served, as Sung Kang returned to the playing field in F9. Again, time works weirdly in this universe, but it does have its benefits.

Without Los Bandoleros kicking it all off, Han and Dom’s returns might have made a little less sense. Thankfully, that short was included as a special feature on the home releases for Fast & Furious, ingraining it in the lore of the series for over a decade.  If you haven’t seen the short yet, you can watch it online, thanks to the film’s editor Sonia Gonzalez-Martinez.

Who knows what sorts of twists, turns, and returns Fast X will bring? If Vin Diesel and Samantha Vincent have something up their sleeves, they’re certainly not telling. We’ll just have to wait for Fast X’s May 19, 2023 release to see what’s next, while also keeping a close eye on Vin Diesel’s social media accounts for any updates. In the meantime, HBO subscribers can rewatch Sung Kang’s triumphant return in F9, as that platform is the current home for last year’s box office smash.

Fast X began filming on April 21, and while Justin Lin vacated the director’s chair just a week after cameras started rolling, production has been going relatively smoothly following Louis Leterrier being handed the helming reins. Among the familiar faces back for the latest Fast & Furious movie are Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce and Sung Kang as Han Lue. Well, someone caught a rare glimpse of Gibson and Lue hanging out between takes on the Fast X set, and the moment between the two that was captured is adorable.

It’s been a while since Tyrese Gibson and Sung Kang worked together in the Fast & Furious world, but last year’s F9 brought the latter actor back in play for the franchise, resulting in Han Lue reuniting with Roman Pearce and the other members of Dominic Toretto’s unorthodox family. Gibson and Kang certainly look cozy with one another in the below photo the former shared on Instagram, and while Gibson isn’t sure who took that photo, he did provide some context for it:

Moviemaking is a challenging endeavor, so any opportunity to have fun and laugh on set are most welcome. As Tyrese Gibson shared, the above picture is the aftermath of him and Sung Kang having a great time with each other on the Fast X set, with Gibson tuckered out (jet lag also factored into that) and propping his head on his costar’s back. Gibson had nothing but praise for Kang in this post, and he also recalled the reaction during the world premiere of the first F9 trailer when Han Lue showed up at the every end. Fans were excited the character was back, and Gibson is pleased to be working with Kang again.

Han died in his introductory movie, 2006’s Tokyo Drift, but thanks to the Fast & Furious franchise winding back the timeline’s clock, we were able to spend more time with him in 2009’s Fast & Furious, 2011’s Fast Five and 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. However, eventually time caught back up, and with the Fast & Furious 6 end-credits scene and Furious 7 showing that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw was responsible for Han’s fiery demise, it was thought that our time with the character had come to an end. Instead, it was revealed in F9 that Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody had faked Han’s death, and he’d stayed in hiding for years afterwards to protect Anna Sawai’s Elle. Now that the young woman is safe, Han is free to resume driving fast cars and saving the world.

Since specific plot details for Fast X are still being kept secret from the public, we don’t know what’s in store yet for Roman, Han and the rest of the protagonists, although one of their new adversaries will be played by Jason Momoa. Having said that, F9’s mid-credits scene showed Han paying a visit to Deckard Shaw, who was shocked to see him alive. Even though Han never actually died, there’s beef between these two that needs to be resolved. Statham hasn’t been announced to appear Fast X, but with just one more movie left in the main Fast & Furious film series after this, we’ll need a wrap-up to this particular subplot before all is said and done. As for Roman, after going to space with Ludacris’ Tej Parker in F9, it’s hard to imagine him going through an even wilder experience.

The franchise that’s been living its life a quarter mile at a time is winding down. While the Fast & Furious world will surely continue on through spinoffs in the years to come, the main saga starring Dominic Toretto and his crew is in the final leg of this 20-plus-year endurance race with what could be a trilogy set within the popular franchise. The first of these final movies saw some of the series’ most popular characters going up against one of best Fast & Furious villains in some time, while also setting up what’s to come with the Fast X ending.

From Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto to Jason Momoa’s over the top Dante Reyes and everyone in between, the Fast X cast was filled from top to bottom with unforgettable performances that fans of the series will be talking about for years to come. And if you’re trying to figure out where you’ve seen those familiar (and not-so-familiar) faces before, look no further, for we are about to break it all down now…  

Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto) 

Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto has appeared in all the Fast & Furious movies except for 2 Fast 2 Furious, and has become the heart, soul, and face of the franchise in the years since we first met the dominant street racer and fearless hero. And that remains the same in Fast X, which saw Dom face one of his toughest enemies yet, one who wouldn’t back down no matter what.

Though Diesel is most associated with the Fast & Furious movies, the badass action star has had an incredibly varied career, including dramas like Multi-Facial,Strays, and Saving Private Ryan, some of the best Marvel movies with his portrayal of Groot, the Riddick franchise, and the xXx action series, to name only a few.

Jason Momoa (Dante Reyes) 

Dante Reyes, the son of Hernan Reyes, Fast Five’s main antagonist, is honestly one of the best things to happen to the Fast & Furious franchise in a long time, and that’s thanks to Jason Momoa’s outlandish and incredibly violent portrayal of the villain.

Momoa, who first found success on shows like Baywatch: Hawaii and Stargate Atlantis, reached new heights in 2011 with his portrayal of Khal Drogo on Game Of Thrones. Since then, the actor has given incredible performances in the DCEU, Dune, and Sweet Girl, with even more on the way, like the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. 

 Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz)

Michelle Rodriguez has also been part of the Fast & Furious franchise since the beginning, although it wasn’t until Fast & Furious 6 that she started taking a more central role in these movies. And in Fast X, Letty had one of her biggest stories yet, especially when it came to her time with Charlize Theron’s Cipher.

Over the course of the past few decades, Rodriguez has become one of the most badass action stars on the planet, with unforgettable roles in everything from the Resident Evil franchise to Avatar to the 2023 fantasy adventure film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. 

Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce)

Introduced as Brian O’Connor’s childhood best friend in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pearce has been a major part of the franchise since Fast Five, including a hilarious and intense performance in Fast X.

Outside of the Fast-verse, Gibson has landed roles in movies like Baby Boy, Four Brothers, The System, and Morbius. And if that wasn’t enough, Gibson also continues to have a successful music career, with an upcoming, Beautiful Pain, being released at some point in the near future, per Vibe. 

Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges (Tej Parker) 

Chris “Ludacris” Bridges’ Tej Parker also debuted in 2 Fast 2 Furious, hosting the street races Brian O’Connor drove in and later helping out him and Roman Pearce in their mission. Since then, he’s become a major part of the Toretto crew.

Though the rapper-turned-actor hasn’t released a full studio album since 2015’s Ludaversal, he’s remained quite busy with movies like John Henry, End of the Road, and several others. He even hosted his own reality series, Luda Can’t Cook, in 2022, which the three-time Grammy winner followed up with an appearance on Top Chef.

Nathalie Emmanuel (Ramsey)

Introduced in Furious 7, Nathalie Emmanuel’s Ramsey is undoubtedly the tech-guru of the crew, and she put her skills to work in Fast X.

Though she was already established by the time she joined the Game of Thrones cast during the show’s third season, Emmanuel will always be remembered for her turn as Missandei during the major of the HBO fantasy series’ run. Since then, Emmanuel has appeared in movies like Army of Thieves and The Invitation, as well as shows like Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Sung Kang (Han Lue)

A few years after he returned to the franchise in F9: The Fast Saga, Sung Kang is back once more as Han Lue in Fast X, in which he finds himself on quite a wild trip around the world. 

In addition to his multiple appearances in some of the best Fast & Furious movies, Kang has appeared in movies like We Can Be Heroes, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Snakehead the past few years. And fans of the Disney+ original series Obi-Wan Kenobi probably recognize him from his portrayal of The Fifth Brother during the 2022 miniseries.

Charlize Theron (Cipher)

If anyone deserves the honor of being the main Fast & Furious film series’ chief antagonist, it’s Charlize Theron’s Cipher. Although, in Fast X, the dangerous cyberterrorist who orchestrated much of the events in every movie since the franchise’s sixth installment finds herself in a much different situation.

One of the most well-known members of the Fast X cast, the actress has done a little bit of everything over the years, including win an Academy Award for her performance in Monster, dominated in one of the best action movies of all time with Mad Max: Fury Road, and give brief yet unforgettable portrayals in the 2009 post-apocalyptic film, The Road.

Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto)

Like Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster goes back to Fast & Furious’ beginnings too, although Mia Toretto didn’t get nearly as much to do, action-wise, in those earlier appearances compared to Dom (her brother) and Brian (her love interest). And while she was only in Fast X for a few scenes, she’s still a key member of the Toretto crew.

Outside of the high-octane film franchise, Brewster has appeared on shows like Lethal Weapon, Magnum P.I., and The Rookie: Feds over the course of the past half-decade, as well as movies like Simulant and The Integrity of Joseph Chambers. 

John Cena (Jakob Toretto)

We had no idea that John Cena’s Jakob Toretto existed until F9, as it was revealed in the movie that Dom blamed his younger brother for the death of their father and forced him to leave town. By the time Fast X comes around, the brothers have since reconciled.

Cena, one of the most prolific wrestlers-turned-actors in recent memory, has been all over the place the past half-decade with great performances in everything from Bumblebee to The Suicide Squad, and several family-friendly comedies in between.   

Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw)

Deckard Shaw started out as a villain in the Fast & Furious franchise, having targeted Han and the rest of Dominic Toretto’s crew to exact revenge for what they did to his brother, Owen Shaw. But over the years, Shaw has become one of the franchise’s best anti-heroes and he even had a strange run-in about his past in the F9 mid-credits scene with Han Lue.

Throughout his career, Statham has led movies like Snatch, the Transporter franchise, The Italian Job, The Meg, and The Expendables, both of which have highly-anticipated sequels on the way. 

Helen Mirren (Magdalene ‘Queenie’ Ellmanson-Shaw)

Deckard wasn’t the only member of the Shaw family around in Fast X, as Helen Mirren was back as Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw. 

A living legend of the acting world, Mirren’s career can only be matched by one other name on this list (but we’ll get to them soon). From award-winning depictions of the late Queen Elizabeth II to wonderful plot-twisty thrillers like The Good Liar, and countless other movies, shows, and stage productions before, during, and since, there’s not much Mirren can’t do. 

Leo Abelo Perry (Brian ‘Little B’ Marcos)

Although Leo Abelo Perry is a newcomer to the Fast & Furious franchise, his character is not. Perry takes over as Brian Marcos, Dominic Toretto’s son with Elena Neves. 

Throughout his career, which only goes back a couple of years, Perry has popped up on shows like Black-ish and movies like Cheaper by the Dozen.

Scott Eastwood (Little Nobody)

In The Fate of the Furious, Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody was accompanied by a government agent who received the nickname Little Nobody. This agent was played by Scott Eastwood, and after sitting out the events of F9, he’s back for Fast X. 

The son of Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, the actor has made a name for himself the past decade or so with appearances in Fury, The Longest Ride, Wrath of Man, and I Want You Back.

Daniela Melchior (Isabel Neves)

Two years after Daniel Melchior captured the hearts (and attention) of comic book fans around the world with her portrayal of Cleo Caro, a.k.a., Ratcatcher 2, in The Suicide Squad, the Portuguese actress landed a brief yet pivotal role in Fast X as Isabel Neves.

Fast X was the second of two major blockbusters to feature Melchior in May 2023, as she also briefly appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 earlier in the month.  

Brie Larson (Tess)

Brie Larson became another MCU actor to land a role in the Fast & Furious franchise with her portrayal of Tess, the daughter of the still missing (or dead) Mr. Nobody. 

Mostly recognized for her portrayal of Carol Danvers in the Captain Marvel movies, Larson has done a little bit of everything over the course of the past decade-and-a-half. This includes tremendous performances in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street, Room (which earned her an Oscar), Kong: Skull Island, and countless others. 

Alan Ritchson (Aimes)

We had another DC actor who came along for the Fast X ride, as Alan Ritchson popped up in the movie as Aimes, the man who stepped in and took over for Mr. Nobody.   

A lot of you may be more familiar with Ritchson for playing the latest incarnation of Jack Reacher for the popular Amazon Prime Video series Reacher. Either way, Fast X gives Ritchson another action-related credit to add to his resume. 

Rita Moreno (Abuelita Toretto) 

 The Fast & Furious franchise is all about family, blood or otherwise. In the former category, another member of the Toretto clan was introduced: Dom, Mia and Jakob’s grandmother, played by Rita Moreno, an alumnus from both film versions of West Side Story.

The talented and beloved EGOT winner has had one of the most successful and prolific careers in show business with unforgettable roles in Singin’ in the Rain, Carnal Knowledge, Slums of Beverly Hills, and countless others. Hell, she even gave an incredible performance on HBO’s gritty prison drama, Oz.

Well, that catches us up with the Fast X cast and some of the places we’ve seen them before. And while we don’t yet know who we’ll be seeing return for the upcoming Fast & Furious 11, there are plenty of 2023 movies to hold us over while we wait for more information. 

Is this the end of the road? After over twenty years of Fast and the Furious films, the franchise is getting ready to cap off the blockbuster series with the tenth installment (which will be split up in two parts) from the main series starring Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, among other huge stars. As the upcoming action film gets ready to begin production, cast member Tyrese Gibson has an exciting update. 

Tyrese Gibson joined the Fast family back in 2003 as Roman Pearce in 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the actor has since starred in five other movies from the franchise: Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious and 2021’s most recent installment, F9: The Fast Saga. Just ahead of returning for the tenth film, he shared this on Instagram: 

With a photo of himself next to Vin Diesel and Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson said that he just finished reading the F10 script and “we are officially on some other other shit.” While that could mean a host of things for the Fast and the Furious franchise, the best thing we can draw from that comment is the series is going to continue to go big and get weird with it. 

One fan, @spifftv, inferred that perhaps the Fast movie will include time travel, whereas other people guessed everything from flying to mars, crossing over with the Transformers, going to Heaven or making a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Hey, the sky's the limit! Who knows how the franchise will proceed? It has had to up the stakes for ten movies now. 

We don’t know the plot of the upcoming Fast and Furious movies at this time, but we did recently learn that Aquaman’s Jason Momoa is set to play the bad guy, and The Suicide Squad breakout star Daniela Melchior has also joined the Fast family. We also expect Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang and Nathalie Emmanuel to be part of the film alongside Tyrese Gibson, Vin Diesel, Ludacris and more returning stars. 

It’s also fair to say Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, John Cena’s Jakob Toretto and Charlize Theron’s Cipher could also reprise their Fast roles too. Justin Lin will direct after helming F9 along with the 2009, 2011 and 2013 installments, and initially coming aboard for 2006’s Tokyo Drift. Unfortunately, Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs is not expected to return to the main franchise per a statement from the Rock himself. Vin Diesel has publicly asked Johnson to “show up” for the Fast family in the tenth movie, but we’ll have to wait and see. 

Fast & Furious 10 was initially set to come out in April 2023, but in December, the release date was pushed back to May 19, 2023. Until then, we’ll await more updates on production from the cast and crew. 

Being regarded as the 21st century’s greatest actor, everyone in Hollywood would love to share the screen with Denzel Washington. Of course, Washington has appeared in a plethora of films over his decades-long career. But unlike a lot of Hollywood stars, the two-time Oscar winner has avoided or been allergic to building franchises. He’s only ever made one sequel in his career – 2018’s The Equalizer 2. So, joining the fray of a long-running franchise like Fast & Furious doesn’t seem to be Washington’s style. But that might not be entirely true, according to one Fast & Furious star. F9’s Sung Kang revealed the Oscar winner could’ve been in the latest installment.

Getting Denzel Washington to be involved in the Fast & Furious franchise would be a major moment. So, Sung Kang’s revelation might throw some fans off. But he wouldn’t be the first notable star to join the world of fast cars and ridiculous stunts (i.e., Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren and Kurt Russell). Washington could’ve been related to a key character, according to Kang. The F9 star spilled to Screen Rant about what role The Tragedy of Macbeth star could’ve played in one of 2021’s biggest hits.

So, Denzel Washington could’ve played Vin Diesel’s father in F9. That’s something that needs to settle in. Given Washington has played fathers in films like Fences and John Q, there’s no telling what direction Dom, Mia and Jakob’s father would’ve gone in with him in the driver’s seat. As many Fast & Furious fans know, the role of Dom Toretto’s father was played by Mayan M.C.’s J.D. Pardo. But the Oscar winner might’ve brought a distinct perspective to the character. As Sung Kang pointed out, The Little Things star could still pop up in the final Fast & Furious installments. The only question is – would he do it?

Having Denzel Washington, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren share the big screen would be a cinephile’s dream. But getting him to do it might be a challenge as Washington’s schedule is currently filled. Plus, the Oscar winner has been slowly moving behind the scenes. So having Washington in Fast 10 or 11 would be otherworldly for moviegoers from an already chaotic franchise. Well, stranger things have happened.

Viewers will have to wait until April 7, 2023 to see if Denzel Washington pops up in Fast 10. Until then, moviegoers can enjoy Han’s return to the franchise by watching F9 on Prime Video, Vudu and home media.

The Fast & Furious film franchise isn't above having a bit of fun with its titles. The eighth entry in the series was titled The Fate of the Furious, which was then shortened, quite intentionally, to F8. The most recent film just skipped that step and called itself F9. With the knowledge that a tenth movie is on the horizon, many fans have already come up with their favorite idea for a title for the movie in the groan worthy pun FasTEN (Fast10)Your Seatbelts. A lot of people at least claim they would like to see this become the actual title of the next movie. The stars have heard your joke. They think it's funny too. They also think making it the title would be really terrible.

Speaking in support of the release of F9 on Blu-ray, Jordana Brewster was asked by Insider what she thought of the punny movie title. The actress clearly gets the joke, and admits the title has some clever word play. She also thinks it's a terrible movie title, saying...

And, I mean, she's not wrong, right? Calling Fast & Furious 10 FasTen Your Seatbelts is funny without question, but it is not a good movie title. They didn't call The Fate of the Furious, The F8 of the Furious, which I'll admit I was totally expecting to see happen. There is clearly a line that this franchise is not willing to cross.

Still, there are a lot of fans who clearly love the name. One of the original tweets suggesting the title back when F9 was released has been liked thousands of times, and that doesn't count the multiple other people who tweeted the same joke and also saw a lot of support for it.

It would be one thing if Jordana Brewster was completely alone in her belief that it would make a bad title, but she has some support from Sung Kang, who agrees that, no this is not a good name for a movie. While the fans may have finally been given justice for Han, maybe we shouldn't expect this punny title to get very far. Check out Kang's reaction below,

It feels more than likely that the title for Fast and Furious 10 will just be F10 or Fast10 or something along those lines. Although, considering how frequently the Fast & Furious franchise does listen to its fans, I wouldn't be shocked to hear somebody shout "Fasten your seatbelts" in the movie, as a little shoutout to this popular fan request. At the end of the day, the title of the movie doesn't matter. As long as it has the family together, doing absolutely insane stunts, people will be happy.

Excluding archived Tokyo Drift footage used of him in Furious 7, Sung Kang had been absent from the Fast & Furious franchise for eight years by the time F9 came out. Years after Han Lue’s presumed death was shown yet again, this time with the added context of knowing Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw had deliberately crashed into his car, the latest Fast & Furious movie revealed that Han was actually still alive. Now he’s finally back with Dominic Toretto and the gang, and while it’s a good bet we’ll be seeing Han again in the final two Fast & Furious movies, Kang is particularly interested in making an R-rated movie that explores darker questions concerning his character.

Sung Kang revealed this while speaking with CinemaBlend for the F9 home media junket. While Han Lue is obviously a beloved member of the core Fast & Furious cast, Kang believes there’s enough to explore with his character in a standalone feature geared more towards adults. As the actor explained:

Interestingly enough, both Sung Kang and director Justin Lin decided that the Han seen in 2002’s Better Luck Tomorrow is the same one who would be brought into the Fast & Furious world four years later in Tokyo Drift. So in a way, we’ve already gotten Han’s origin story, although there’s certainly room to go back even further to explore Han’s younger years. That said, with Kang being 49 years old, unless the Fast & Furious franchise is willing to break out that digital de-aging technology used in movies like The Irishman, it stands to reason that a younger actor would need to play he character in those earlier years.

As for Sung Kang’s comments about lost love, that’s indirectly referring to Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar, who debuted in 2009’s Fast & Furious and met Han Lue in 2011’s Fast Five. By the end of the latter movie, the two were romantically involved and remain together up until the final chunk of 2013’s Fast & Furious 6, when Gisele fell out of a moving plane and has been presumed dead since. While Kang is game for Gisele’s death to be undone, if such a resurrection isn’t in the cards, this idea of following with Han after losing her and seeing how suffering such a tragedy changed him could easily fall under that dark, R-rated narrative umbrella.

Even though the main Fast & Furious film series will start winding down in the coming years, the franchise will continue to expand through spinoffs like Hobbs & Shaw 2 and a yet-to-be-titled female-led movie. So if Universal Pictures is willing to delve into R-rated territory with this property, maybe a Han spinoff could be in the cards, whether it’s set after F9/the remaining main Fast & Furious movies, or, as has become common with this character, we wind the clock back a bit, such as between Fast & Furious 6 and Tokyo Drift, or to the period between Tokyo Drift and F9 when he was working for Mr. Nobody. Han certainly has a big enough fanbase who would surely turn out in droves to see him spotlighted in a story taking place far away from the Fast & Furious franchise’s traditionally PG-13 confines.

F9 takes the Fast Saga to new heights in many ways. It introduces a never-before-mentioned member of the Toretto family and sends part of the crew to space, but one of the most notable features of F9 is that #JusticforHan is finally served. Sung Kang has spoken about breaking Asian character stereotypes with Han and what fan’s reactions to the character have been like.

With such a diverse cast, the Fast Saga is a franchise that has allowed various cultures to feel represented on screen since its inception. For the Asian American community, that representation has come from Han. Many fans were confused and dismayed by the treatment of Han in the series after his debut in Tokyo Drift, and thankfully he’s been given an excellent story in F9 that makes up for lost time. CinemaBlend spoke with Han actor Sung Kang about when he realized the impact of his character and he shared the following:

It sounds like Han being an Asian character that did not follow a stereotypical expectation was just as meaningful to Sung Kang as it’s been to fans of the character and the series. When the Fast Saga first began with The Fast and the Furious, no one had any idea how massive it would become. Along the way the family has only grown, adding new multi-dimensional characters like Han and in turn growing the fan base along with the cast.

Sung Kang also questioned the definition of cool, and in the context of Han representing the Asian American community in a cool way, he defines cool as belonging. The Fast family is so diverse and ever-growing and is a perfect example of why representation matters. Inviting more into the crew where they feel they belong creates such a bond between fans and between the fans and the cast.

F9 is now available on Digital and speeding onto 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD September 21st from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The home release includes a Justice for Han featurette where Sung Kang and director Justin Lin discuss the genesis for the return of this beloved character, while the cast reveals what it means to them to have Han back along for the ride.

Before she debuted as the DC Extended Universe’s Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot was chiefly known for playing Gisele Yashar in three of the Fast & Furious movies. Following her first appearance in 2009’s Fast & Furious, Gisele met Sung Kang’s Han Lue in 2011’s Fast Five, and they subsequently became romantically involved until her apparent demise in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. However, Kang is hopeful that someday, there will be a way to bring Gadot back into the Fast & Furious world.

For those who need a refresher, Gisele Yashar was last seen falling out of a moving plane, with Han, Dominic Toretto and the rest of the gang assuming she died. But it’s been theorized among fans that Gisele is still alive, and Sung Kang told Insider that he’s game for this to become a reality. In his words:

Of all the Fast & Furious actors to comment about bringing a character back to life, Sung Kang is uniquely qualified on this topic. After all, we met Han in 2006’s Tokyo Drift, but that same movie also saw him seemingly dying. It was only because the Fast & Furious franchise wound the timeline back that we were able to spend more time with the character, but eventually we returned again to Han’s presumed death in the Fast & Furious 6 mid-credits scene and during Furious 7, where it was revealed that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw purposefully crashed into Han’s car.

However, as revealed in F9, Han didn’t actually perish; his death was faked by Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, and after staying hidden for a number of years, he’s finally reunited with his chosen family and now accompanied by his ward, Anna Sawai’s Elle. So if it’s possible to undo Han Lue’s death, considering that we never saw Gisele Yashar’s body after she fell off that plane, perhaps she could be alive too, and has been off the grid and waiting for the right time to resurface.

Of course, we have to consider whether Gal Gadot would be willing to come back to the Fast & Furious franchise. She’s a much bigger actress compared to a decade ago, and that means having a busier schedule. Along with being on deck to reprise Diana of Themyscira in Wonder Woman 3, Gadot is keeping busy in the coming years with Heart of Stone, Cleopatra and a miniseries about Hedy Lamar. So even if Gadot decides to put playing Gisele again on her to-do list before the main Fast & Furious film series concludes, I’m doubtful it would be in a major capacity. It’s more like we’d see her cameo before this saga concluded.

Obviously if is announced that Gal Gadot will return to the Fast & Furious fold, we’ll let you know. For now, F9 is available on Blu-ray, 4K, DVD and Digital HD, and Fast & Furious 10 will race into theaters on April 7, 2023. Lisey’s Story (Apple TV+)

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, the 2021 Apple TV+ limited series Lisey’s Story is a terrifying thriller that centers on Lisey Landon (Julianne Moore), a grieving widow who explores various traumatic memories connected her deceased husband, Scott Landon (Clive Owen), while also battling the evil force that haunted him in life.

Raya And The Last Dragon (Disney+)

The 2021 animated Disney adventure film Raya and the Last Dragon follows the titular heroine (Kelly Marie Tran) as she sets out to resurrect Sisu (Awkwafina) and stop an evil force known as the Druun in the hope of saving and uniting all of humanity.

Why it’s worth checking out: One of the most fun Disney movies in recent years, Raya and the Last Dragon has a little bit of everything: eye-catching animation, an emotional story, and a great deal of heart-stopping action. The Raya and the Last Dragon cast, which includes Sung Kang as Talon leader Dan Hai, is great from top to bottom with the likes of Sandra Oh, Gemma Chan, Benedict Wong, and Alan Tudyk, to name a few.

Bullet To The Head (Amazon Rental)

The 2013 action thriller Bullet to the Head follows hired killer Jimmy Bobo (Sylvester Stallone) when he joins forces with detective Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang) as they attempt to track down and eliminate a common enemy: real estate developer Robert Nkomo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who has attempted to assassinate both parties on separate occasions.

Why it’s worth checking out: No one is going to say Bullet to the Head is the best Sylvester Stallone movie, but as far as recent Sly goes, there are few examples of the action star having as much fun as he does here. Over-the-top action, a rocky relationship that makes for an exciting buddy cop adventure, and plenty of demolition and destruction, make this one hell of a ride.

Power (Starz)

Power, the Starz crime drama that ran from 2014 to 2020 and has since spawned multiple spinoffs, tells the story of James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a drug dealer who wishes to escape his past and enter the world of legitimate business. This is easier said than done for the man known on the street as “Ghost” as one’s past always has a way of playing catch-up.

Why it’s worth checking out: Sung Kang shows up in Power Season 4 as U.S. Attorney John Mak, the prosecutor leading a murder case he hopes to pin on Ghost. Kang typically appears as a protagonist, so his turn in a more villainous role is a breath of fresh air.

We Can Be Heroes (Netflix)

Robert Rodriguez makes great pulp action movies, but the filmmaker behind El Mariachi, From Dusk Til Dawn, and Sin City has also made multiple family-friendly features like Spy Kids, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, and most recently We Can Be Heroes. One of the best movies on Netflix that can be enjoyed by adults and children, the Sharkboy and Lavagirl sequel shows what happens when the kids of earth’s superheroes are forced to fill in for their parents who have been kidnapped.

Why it’s worth checking out: Not only is We Can Be Heroes a great way to spend a family movie night, it’s genuinely a fun and exciting adventure film that boasts an outstanding cast of child actors as well as some major stars playing their parents. This includes Christian Slater, Pedro Pascal, Sung Kang, and Taylor Dooley.

The Motel (Tubi)

The 2005 coming-of-age story The Motel follows 13-year-old Ernest (Jeffrey Chyau), a fatherless boy who spends his days cleaning his family’s run-down motel until has a chance-encounter with a drifter named Sam (Sung Kang). As the bond shared by the boy and the man becomes stronger, Ernest begins to explore his dreams of becoming a writer and escaping his life at the sleazy motor inn all while finding a feather figure in Sam.

Why it’s worth checking out: Anyone wanting to see a great movie to watch starring Sung Kang that doesn’t revolve around driving cars or uncovering intricate conspiracies will certainly find something in The Motel. This low-key drama about a teenager finding himself, and a broken man finding redemption, is as inspirational as it is dramatic.

Code 8 (Netflix)

Based on the 2016 short film of the same name, Code 8 is a sci-fi action film that follows Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a superhuman who uses his powers to help a group of criminals so that he can raise enough money to help his mother’s medication condition. Along the way, he has several clashes with police, including Agent Park (Sung Kang), a man with secrets of his own.

Why it’s worth checking out: One of the most popular movies on Netflix not long after it debuted on the streaming service in early 2020, Code 8 is the perfect mix of family drama, crime, and superhuman adventure with multiple twists and turns.

Bonus: One-Off TV Appearances

Before Sung Kang found his fame and fortune with the Fast and Furious movies, he appeared on various TV shows to take on many one-off roles on series like Monk, Cold Case, The Shield, and NYPD Blue. Kang would even continue this after becoming a star, showing up on Monk once more as well as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Hawaii Five-0, and Family Guy, to name a few.

As you can see, Sung Kang has quite a career outside of the Fast and Furious franchise, though this isn’t to say he should leave the series before it wraps up with the two-part Fast and Furious 10.

The Star Wars franchise may be between movies at the moment, but the saga of the galaxy far, far away is going strong on the small screen with some Disney+ series that have already released and more on the way. One of the most highly-anticipated of the upcoming Star Wars series is Obi-Wan Kenobi, which will see Ewan McGregor reprise his prequel trilogy role as Obi-Wan in the flesh for the first time since Revenge of the Sith in 2005. Now, a star who will share the screen with McGregor has opened up about seeing some iconic Star Wars elements on set.

Sung Kang of F9 is making the jump from the Fast & Furious franchise for a role in Obi-Wan Kenobi. While he didn't drop details about the plot of the new show, his description to Rotten Tomatoes of the feeling of being on set is enough to make me more than a little jealous. Here's what Kang had to say:

Casting news already confirmed that Hayden Christensen is returning as Darth Vader for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the series is obviously going to feature at least one (but possibly more) Jedi with Ewan McGregor's character in the title role, but Sung Kang's description just makes me want to camp out on the set of the new show. I can't say that I used to wear Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker costumes like Sung Kang, but I'd be lying if I said I never in my life tried out a Princess Leia hairstyle!

It's fun to learn that so many people working on Obi-Wan Kenobi are big fans of the franchise for many years, ranging from the people hard at work behind the scenes to one of the stars himself. Unfortunately, that star didn't dish on what kind of character he'll be playing, as Sung Kang's role in the show is currently shrouded in secrecy. In fact, fans may not want to count on any details about his character leaking until Disney is good and ready for word to get out. I can't be the only one who still isn't over the fact that the Baby Yoda secret somehow went unspoiled, right?

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is expected to premiere at some point in 2022, but that doesn't mean that Star Wars fans are going to have to wait until next year to see more live-action content from that galaxy far, far away. The Book of Boba Fett that was confirmed at the very end of The Mandalorian Season 2 is on the way before the end of 2021, so that is definitely something for fans to look forward to. For now, there is always plenty of Star Wars content available streaming on Disney+.

SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for F9. If you have not yet seen the film, proceed at your own risk!

Back in 2013, the Fast & Furious series unleashed an exciting and sad end credits scene attached to Fast & Furious 6. Following up its story featuring the franchise’s central family going head-to-head against mercenary Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), the movie unveiled an extra coda scene that not only saw Sung Kang’s Han travel to Japan to meet his fate previously witnessed in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, but also revealed his killer: Owen Shaw’s brother, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).

Now, a little over eight years later, the Fast & Furious core series has brought Han back from the dead, his resurrection featured as part of the plot in F9 – so it definitely feels appropriate that the blockbuster also features its very own new end credits scene to surprise fans.

So exactly what is it that transpires in this bonus moment in F9? And what exactly could it mean for the future of the Fast & Furious franchise? That’s what we’re here to break down, so without further ado, let’s dig into the special extra scene…

What Happens In The F9 End Credits Scene

Starting up in the middle of F9’s end credits, the scene begins with what seems to be a shot of a man doing a bit of exercise/fight training with the help of a heavy bag suspended from the ceiling – punching and kicking it with some heavy impact. As we get closer, we see that said man is none other than Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw… and it doesn’t take much longer after that to learn that he’s not just keeping fit and working on his form. Instead, he is evidently working a job.

It turns out that said heavy bag is not filled with the typical sand/grains/fabric, but instead seems to be a custom build as a kind of torture device. Deckard zips open the equipment to reveal that there is a mysterious man inside that the former MI6 agent/assassin has been beating as a means of trying to extract information. He is on the hunt for some kind of drive that contains some kind of plans, and he is willing to keep punching and kicking until he gets the details that he’s after.

As Deckard plans to continue his dirty work, he hears a rapping on the room’s door. Not really thinking twice about it, he walks over to see who it is – and is surprised as all hell to find the recently resurrected Han Lue staring back at him. Jason Statham’s reaction by itself delivers the “You’re supposed to be dead” line, as he looks beyond shocked to see his former target alive… but the scene cuts to black before either of the two men can say a single word to one another.

What F9’s End Credits Scene Could Mean For The Future Of The Fast & Furious Franchise

It should go without saying that Deckard Shaw’s shock at seeing Han Lue alive and well in F9 is a moment that is earned, as the former is very clearly under the impression that his mission to kill the latter was very successful. Not only was there a funeral and a mourning period following Han’s death, but the “assassination” was also the first executed as part of a whole revenge plan that played out in Furious 7 (albeit one that ended with Shaw in a prison cell deep beneath the Earth). Now he has to come to grips with the fact that Han and Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) teamed up to help fake Han’s murder in order to protect a dangerous secret.

Based on what we know about the franchise, it feels unlikely that we will get to see a future installment that winds up showing audiences exactly what happens when Han and Shaw get to talking, but they certainly have a lot to converse about – especially since Shaw is now working with the good guys. Because of this, all signs seem to point towards them being forced to work together on the same side in the near future… but what we don’t precisely know is exactly when we might see that happen.

The safest bet, of course, is that we’ll once again get to see the characters back in action together in the untitled Fast & Furious 10, which is being developed as the first half of a two-part conclusion – with Fast & Furious 11 being planned as the final installment of the long-running series. Given that they are now playing for the same team, we can probably expect that their relationship will be described as “begrudging colleagues” – though we definitely do wonder if Han will wind up being a bit angry at Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and company for working side-by-side with his killer during the events of The Fate Of The Furious. That was something that certainly pissed fans off – hence the whole “#JusticeForHan” thing, but we’ll have to wait and see if that actually makes it into the canon of the franchise.

The other possibility here (and the odds definitely seem slimmer), is that the F9 end credits scene isn’t a tease for Fast & Furious 10 and 11, but instead is actually a set-up for the developing sequel to Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw. For all of the reasons stated above, there is a lot of baggage that exists in the relationship between Han and Shaw, and it’s possible that the franchise won’t want to bury all of that rich interpersonal conflict in a massive two-part franchise capper that is already going to be juggling a lot of other plot material. If Hobbs & Shaw 2 were to become Hobbs & Han & Shaw, however, that film could dig deep into the issues, and also have Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs as a third party playing the fun dual role of mediator and instigator.

No official plans to specifically follow-up the events of the F9 end credits scene have been announced yet, but it should go without saying that it’s a detail of the new film that fans are excited to learn more about.

The newest entry in the Fast & Furious franchise is almost here, and while there's a lot that fans are certainly going to be surprised by, one of the film's biggest reveals has been known for over a year. The character of Han, played by Sung Kang, is back from the dead. Fans have wanted Justice for Han for years, and they're finally about to get it, though it seems Justice for Han could have taken a somewhat different form. F9 director Justin Lin recently spoke with our own Reelblend podcast and the director reveals that it was during a train trip while scouting for locations that he ultimately decided that the solution for getting justice for Han was simply to bring back the character. Justin Lin explains...

The idea of "Justice for Han" is something fans have been wanting to see for quite some time. The character's death at the hands of Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw was one thing. The fact that Shaw then became part of the team was something that many fans took issue with. Clearly, Justin Lin also had issues, and he really wanted F9 to address all these outlying questions in some way, though even he wasn't quite sure what to do.

It sounds like, initially, Justin Lin's plan was simply to bring Han back in flashback and not actually reveal that Han had survived his car crash. But while on this trip and wrestling with the question, he made the decision to actually bring back Han. Of course, one assumes there will still be plenty of flashbacks, as F9 will need to explain just how Han survived the accident back in the third film.

Justin Lin doesn't explain what it was specifically on this trip that made him decide to bring Han back. As he tells the Reelblend crew, he was also dealing with the fact that he wouldn't be able to actually send a Pontiac Fierro in low earth orbit, though he apparently wanted to do just that.

Assuming that the explanation for Han's resurrection works well enough, it will probably be much more satisfying for fans then simply seeing him return in flashbacks. And it seems likely that it means Han will return once again in the tenth entry in the Fast & Furious franchise, that we still know is coming. At some point, there will likely still need to be a final confrontation between Han and Shaw in order to get true justice for Han.

The coming release of F9 brings the highly anticipated return of Sung Kang’s Han Lue following the social media movement #JusticeForHan. Since the F9 trailer shockingly revealed Kang’s involvement in the next Fast and Furious movie and promised “justice is coming” for the Tokyo Drift character, the plotline has become one of the most hotrod topics of the coming film that coincides with director Justin Lin’s return to the franchise.

Justin Lin brought Han, who'd first appeared in his film Better Luck Tomorrow, into the Fast and Furious fold in 2006 for Tokyo Drift. Although the character died in his first foray into the Fast franchise, the character has been part of each of Lin’s movies from the series including 2009’s Fast & Furious, 2011’s Fast Five and 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. For the two movies in the main Fast & Furious film series Lin has been away, fans have been campaigning for #JusticeForHan, and we’ll seemingly get it for F9.

The director spoke about his beloved character during his interview on CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast, sharing how he felt about the movement following his prior exit from the series:

As the trailers tease, Han Lue looks to be in fact alive following two major scenes in the series that show him dying in a car crash at the hand of Jason Shatham’s Deckard Shaw. We don’t yet know how Sung Kang’s character is back and snacking about, but F9 is expected to answer the call fans shouted out. Justin Lin spoke about his reaction to the movement with these words as well:

It’s important for good characters to be treated well. It’s not been fair to see Statham’s Shaw to receive redemption for his actions and a much more pivotal Fast and Furious character to be left out or given proper justice. Along with Han’s mysterious return, F9 will explore real family with the introduction of John Cena’s Jakob Toretto, who is the brother of Vin Diesel’s Dominic.

F9 is a massive chapter for the long-running franchise. Along with Justin Lin and Sung Kang back for the action, it will also star Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, Ludacris and Cardi B. The movie has received mixed to positive reviews from critics ahead of its June 25 release date and a planned tenth and eleventh film.

One of Star Wars’ greatest Jedi is gearing up for his return, as production has officially commenced on Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, a limited series set to debut on Disney+. The show will feature the long-awaited return of Ewan McGregor in the titular role and see his beloved character navigate a dangerous galaxy. Of course, McGregor will be joined by an impressive cast, which includes a number of franchise newcomers. Sung Kang, known for his role as Han Lue in the Fast & Furious series, is one of these fresh faces. And while he can’t say much about his role, he’s now provided a pretty wild tease.

Actors who are involved with high-profile franchises like Star Wars or the Marvel Cinematic Universe have to choose their words carefully when discussing the project. But while promoting F9, Sung Kang seemed to have no problem side-stepping specifics about his Obi-Wan Kenobi role. He did, however, share a short, yet sweet, tease when discussing it with journalist Tara Hitchcock:

I honestly think Sung Kang just sold a lot of fans with just two words: “sexual deliciousness.” If anything, they imply that the actor plays a charming character that is sure to ooze charisma and could also have quite a bit of sex appeal. Kang has played some smooth characters before, with Fast & Furious’ Han being a prime example. So even with such a small tease, it sounds like this role is right up the actor’s alley.

As of right now, if anyone were to think of “sexual deliciousness” in the Star Wars universe, their minds would probably go to Lando Calrissian. The gambler-turned-businessman effortlessly oozes cool and has a sexuality that’s quite fluid. Based on the brief description of Sung Kang’s character, it’ll be interesting to see if he draws any inspiration from Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover’s handling of Lando.

It’s anyone’s guess as to how Sung Kang’s character fits into Obi-Wan’s journey in the new series. While we know the series begins with the Jedi living in exile on Tatooine and watching over young Luke Skywalker but, from there, he’s taken on a different kind of adventure. Even with the presence of new characters played by stars like Kang, Indira Varma and Kumail Nanjiani, the series seems poised to add new layers to the legendary Jedi. F9 is almost here, and it's already pushed the Fast franchise past a major blockbuster milestone. The film has been screened recently, and critics have a lot to say about the action movie franchise’s ninth movie. The Fast series has always been about family, and F9 will see the return of a family member in the form of Sung Kang’s fan-favorite character, Han Lue. While speaking about his return, Kang recently reflected on working with Gal Gadot in the long-running, big-screen franchise.

Before she was Diana Prince, Gal Gadot was a part of the “familia” in the Fast and Furious movies making her debut as Gisele Yashar in the fourth movie of the franchise. Now, Gadot is a certified mega star helming the Wonder Woman franchise and being an integral part of Justice League. Sung Kang shared some sweet thoughts on working with Gadot, telling Entertainment Weekly:

Sung Kang says people always ask him about what it was like to kiss Wonder Woman, and the actor acknowledges that Gal Gadot is stunningly beautiful, and gets why people are fascinated with the question. However, he also says the actress was just cool to hang out with and was truly one of the crew. Kang’s Han and Gadot’s Gisele became an item after Fast Five, so their characters have been linked ever since. Sung Kang goes on to talk about their pairing, saying:

Sung Kang says he and Gal Gadot were able to form a genuine friendship, and they were able to carry over to the screen seamlessly. Being paired off meant they spent a lot of time hanging out and talking about life, and it definitely paid off for their characters. Gadot’s Gisele was killed off but, since Han is now returning from his supposed death in Tokyo Drift, anything is possible. So there is a faint possibility we could get to see Gal Gadot with the Fast family again before the saga reaches the end of the road.

Fans can’t wait to see Han back behind the wheel, and neither can Sung Kang’s Tokyo Drift co-star Lucas Black, who will also make his return to the series. But even though the “Justice for Han” movement was successful, Kang still has some thoughts about the redemption that was given to his character's would-be killer.

F9 will surely give long-time fans everything they expect from the series, and Han's return should definitely be one of the highlights. We'll see how his return is explained when the film hits theaters on June 25 and, from there, we'll speculate on the chances of Giselle popping back up.

By now, you have either started or plan to start Lisey’s Story, the new Apple TV+ limited series based Stephen King’s 2006 psychological horror novel of the same name. With the first two chapters of the eight-episode series premiering on Friday, June 4, now is the perfect time to go back and see where all you’ve seen the Lisey’s Story cast, including Julianne Moore, Clive Owen, Dane DeHaan, and Joan Allen before they appeared in this tense and other-wordly television adaptation from the mind of one of the world’s best and most prolific living authors.

But outside of the Apple TV+'s main stars, you may be asking yourself where you have seen the Lisey's Story cast before. Well, fear not, as we have put together a quick rundown of the show's biggest stars, where they fit into the story, and some of the movies, television shows, and stage productions that they have called home over the years.

Julianne Moore (Lisey Landon)

Julianne Moore plays the titular heroine on Lisey’s Story, a woman that is not only still dealing with the death of her husband but also a dangerous stalker obsessed with her late husband’s body of work. Outside of leading the latest in a long line of Stephen King adaptations, Moore has given one remarkable performance after another in film and on television, earning an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her role in 2015’s Still Alice, as well as two additional Golden Globes for Game Change and Short Cuts. Moore has also appeared in everything from Boogie Nights to The Big Lebowski and The Kids Are All Right to Children of Men, which also featured her Lisey’s Story co-star Clive Owen.

Clive Owen (Scott Landon)

Clive Owen plays Scott Landon, a prolific author and husband of Lisey’s Story’s heroine who has been dead for two years prior to the start of the Apple TV+ limited series. In addition to the aforementioned Children of Men, which remains just as impactful today as it did upon its release 15 years ago, Owen has received an Academy Award nomination for Closer, lead films like Sin City and Inside Man, and had his fair share of hits on the television side of things with celebrated performances in everything from Hemingway & Gellhorn to The Knick, which earned him nominations for a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe, respectively.

Joan Allen (Amanda Debusher)

Portraying Amanda Debusher, Lisey’s older and sometimes catatonic sister whose episodes transport her to another world, is Joan Allen. Prior to landing one of the main roles on Lisey’s Story, Allen made a name for herself on Broadway, winning a Tony Award in 1988 for her debut in Burn This. She has also earned three Academy Award nominations over the years including a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Nixon and The Crucible and a Best Actress nomination for The Contender. Other memorable movies from Allen include Pleasantville, The Notebook, and Room. Allen also received multiple nominations for her portrayal of iconic American artist Georgia O’Keeffe in the 2009 Lifetime movie Georgia O’Keeffe.

Dane DeHaan (Jim Dooley)

Dane DeHaan lends his talents to Lisey’s Story, bringing the novel’s antagonistic Jim Dooley, to life in a frightening display of obsession. Prior to taking on the role of a man who will do anything to get Lisey’s late husband’s unpublished work out of the shadows, the talented DeHaan appeared in everything from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. He also gave memorable performances in The Place Beyond the Pines, Kill Your Darlings, and Lawless, to name only a few.

Jennifer Jason Leigh (Darla)

Jennifer Jason Leigh appears throughout Lisey’s Story as Darla, the middle child in Lisey’s family who helps her two sisters with their other-worldly conditions. Since breaking through with Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Leigh has led a remarkable career in film, television, and various stage productions over the course of the past 40 years. With Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her turn as Daisy Domergue in The Hateful Eight, another Golden Globe nod for Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, and various other decorated performances, Leigh as cemented her place on the list of greatest living actresses. And this isn’t even the first time Leigh has appeared in a Stephen King adaptation, having had a pivotal role in 1995’s Dolores Claiborne.

Ron Cephas Jones (Professor Roger Dashmiel)

Ron Cephas Jones appears in Lisey’s Story, taking on the role of Roger Dashmiel, a professor at Scott Landon’s alma mater who wants to see the late author’s unpublished work see the light of day. Fans of This Is Us will immediately recognize Jones as William “Shakespeare” Hill, a role which has earned the actor two Primetime Emmys for his performance on the NBC drama series. Jones’ other television work includes Luke Cage and Mr. Robot, among others. Jones has also shown up in movies like He Got Game, Venom, and Dolemite Is My Name.

Sung Kang (Officer Dan Boeckman)

Taking on the role of Officer Dan Boeckman, the police officer assigned to watching over the Landon house in Lisey’s Story is star of the Fast and Furious franchise Sung Kang. Mostly known for his portrayal of Han Lue (and the Justice for Han movement) in five entries in the multi-billion-dollar franchise starting with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Kang has shown up in everything from Live Free or Die Hard to We Can Be Heroes with a ton of other movies in between. Over on the television side of things, Kang has had main roles on shows like Power and Gang Related, and even appeared on an episode of Monk like so many up-and-coming actors before him.

Remember, this is just the main actors in the Lisey’s Story cast, as the limited series written by Stephen King and directed by Pablo Larraín features a large supporting cast who will all play a role in some shape or form. 15 years ago, moviegoers watching The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift watched Sung Kang’s Han Lue seemingly die in a car crash, and later down the road, Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7 revealed that it was Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw who was responsible for Han’s demise. But as it turns out, the snack-loving member of Dominic Toretto’s crew isn’t dead. Somehow he’s still alive and will be back in action for Fast & Furious 9, a.k.a. F9. Naturally that will involve him getting back behind the wheel of a car.

We just weeks away from F9 finally racing into theaters over a year after it was originally supposed to come out, so that means the marketing for the next Fast & Furious movie is kicking up a notch. The latest F9 video from Twitter teases the blockbuster-y shenanigans Han and his cohorts are getting into, and just like every Fast & Furious movie that’s come before, cars and other vehicles play an integral role in the insanity. Hallelujah!… you’ll understand why I said that by watching below:

Excluding the archive footage used of Han Lue from Tokyo Drift used in Furious 7, we haven’t seen Sung Kang play the character since 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. Furthermore, within the Fast & Furious timeline, F9 marks Han’s first post-Tokyo Drift appearance. So with so much time having passed since both movies, it’d be disappointing if Han came back, but was stuck on the sidelines. Luckily, that won’t be the case, as we’ve seen Han in the F9 trailers not only driving around at breakneck speed, but also fighting some bad guys. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Following Deckard Shaw’s turn from villain to hero in The Fate of the Furious and Hobbs & Shaw, the #JusticeForHan movement emerged online, as many fans were irritated that Dominic Toretto and company welcomed Shaw into their “family” despite him having killed one of their own. Well, now we know the truth: Shaw didn’t actually kill Han, though it remains to be seen how Han survived that car crash. Either way, he’s is with us again and back to help save the world. With two more Fast & Furious movies on the way after F9, maybe there’s even a chance he and Shaw could finally come face to face at some point.

But Han Lue’s return is just one of the things Fast & Furious fans can look forward to in F9. The movie will also introduce John Cena as Jakob Toretto, Dom and Mia’s estranged brother who has joined forces with Charlize Theron’s Cipher. Han also isn’t the only Tokyo Drift alum taking part in F9, with Lucas Black, Jason Tobin and Bow Wow reprising their respective roles as Sean Boswell, Earl Hu and Twinkie. Behind the scenes, Justin Lin returned for his fifth round in the Fast & Furious directorial chair, as well as co-wrote the script with Daniel Casey. Oh, and let’s not forget that F9 will venture into space!

The Fast and Furious franchise is, for many people, a fun series of movies based around increasingly insane car stunts. In general the movies don't take themselves too seriously, and that's part of why they're so much fun. However, the nine films in the franchise thus far have created some characters that fans are truly invested in, no matter how crazy the action. And that passion has led to many taking serious issue with the way the films took the character of Deckard Shaw, and transformed him from villain to hero, even after he did the unthinkable and killed another member of the "family." And now Han himself has spoken to this redemption.

After calling for "Justice for Han" for years, fans have already learned that the popular character played by Sung Kang will return from the dead in F9 --the newest Fast and Furious movie set to open in June. While details as to exactly how Han is still alive will have to wait for the film itself, Sung Kang recently spoke with People about his resurrection and the conflict the fan base has over Jason Statham's character evolving into one of the good guys. While fans may take issue with Deckard Shaw's new found heroism, the man who plays Han is ok with it, and he promises the new movie will explain everything...

At the end of the sixth entry in the Fast and Furious franchise we learned that the death of Han, which had taken place in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, was not the random accident it appeared to be, but a targeted attack on part of Dominic Toretto's crew. Throughout Furious 7, Dom and family fought Deckard Shaw, and eventually defeated him.

But then, in The Fate of the Furious, Deckard Shaw was brought into the fold, and while he was a somewhat unwilling participant, by the end, he appeared to be accepted by the group, and he even got his own spinoff. This rubbed fans the wrong way not simply because Shaw was now apparently supposed to be one of the "family" but because the death of Han was never even brought up. Everybody just acted cool with it.

Sung Kang does seem to take issue with that approach here, clearly feeling that ignoring the issue was the wrong move because it disrespected the audience. F9 will, it would appear, be planning to finally address these issues. Not only will we learn how and why Han is alive, but it sounds like it will done in a way that will make Deckard Shaw's face turn make more sense. We'll fine out when F9 hits theaters June 25.

Last year, the first trailer for Fast & Furious 9, a.k.a. F9, dropped, and among the big reveals was that Sung Kang’s Han Lue, who was thought to have been killed during the events of Tokyo Drift/Furious 7, was still alive. This big return followed years after the #JusticeForHan movement launched, which protested that the man who temporarily took Han off the board, Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, was warmly welcomed into Dominic Toretto’s crew at the end of The Fate of the Furious. One minute Shaw was a villain, now he’s been firmly positioned as a hero in this franchise.

It’s still a mystery how Han Lue is still alive, but F9 director Justin Lin was adamant that the character return, and he even promoted #JusticeForHan during the filming of the next Fast & Furious movie, long before we knew Han would be back. As for the campaign itself, Lue shared his thoughts in an interview with Empire, saying:

Well, if any filmmaker was going to bring Han Lue back into the Fast & Furious world, it’d be Justin Lin. Not only has he direct all the Fast & Furious movies where Han appeared, but both he and Sung Kang decided that Han is the same individual the latter played in 2002’s Better Luck Tomorrow, which came out just a year after The Fast & the Furious. So the character already meant a lot to both of them, but the #JusticeForHan movement made Kang realize that the fans were incredibly passionate about Han as well. Earlier this year, Vin Diesel also talked about Han’s importance to the Fast & Furious world, saying how he was representative of F9’s theme: don’t give up on family.

Rest assured, the wildness of Han Lue coming back into play is not lost on Sung Kang, with the actor describing his Fast & Furious journey as “crazy.” Along with learning how Han survived that fiery blaze, F9 will also handle #JusticeForHan in its own way. It’ll be interesting to see how that’s done considering that Jason Statham isn’t expected to appear as Deckard Shaw since he and Dwayne Johnson were busy shooting the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. Still, even with whatever F9 has in store, maybe there’s a chance these two characters could finally come face-to-face in one of the final two Fast & Furious movies.

You may not be familiar with the Stephen King novel Lisey’s Story, but, frankly, that’s an issue that you’d be doing yourself a favor by resolving. The book is a haunting and creepy thriller that both celebrates the art of writing, and will invade your dreams. It’s also a work that the author has also wanted to see adapted for many years, and now that’s actually happening courtesy of the upcoming miniseries.

Lisey’s Story Will Be An Apple TV+ Exclusive

Netflix has Gerald’s Game, 1922, and In The Tall Grass. Hulu has 11.22.63 and Castle Rock. Paramount+ has The Stand. And now Apple TV+ will also have its very own Stephen King programming too. Lisey’s Story has been developed as an exclusive for the streaming service – though it’s not impossible that the show could one day get a physical home video release as well.

Stephen King Considers Lisey’s Story To Be His Favorite Novel Of Those He’s Written

Lisey’s Story was first published in 2006, but just because it isn’t one of Stephen King’s older classics doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a special place in his heart. In fact, during a 2013 AMA session on Reddit he called it the favorite of the novels that he has written. (It should be noted that he has written 11 novels since then, and it’s possible his feelings have changed, but the praise is more than significant enough to warrant a mention, and he hasn’t exactly been shy about sharing his affection for it elsewhere).

Stephen King Has Adapted Lisey’s Story Himself

The rate at which Stephen King has produced books over the last five decades is nothing short of extraordinary – but what makes his work all the more impressive is that he also somehow finds time to write his own screenplay adaptations for film and television projects. His credits as a screenwriter include 1985’s Silver Bullet, 1989’s Pet Sematary, and 2006’s Desperation, and most recently he wrote the teleplays for the entirety of Apple TV+’s Lisey’s Story.

Lisey’s Story Will Be An 8-Episode Miniseries

Because Stephen King has a tendency to immerse readers in details and deeply explore his characters, filmmakers frequently find themselves challenged to adapt the entire scope of a novel into a two hour movie. That won’t be an issue for Lisey’s Story, however, as the Apple TV+ version will have eight commercial-free hours to work with.

Pablo Larrain Is Directing The Full Lisey’s Story Miniseries

Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain is probably best known to cinephiles as the director behind the 2016 Jackie Kennedy biopic Jackie starring Natalie Portman, but he’s making his first American miniseries with Lisey’s Story, and is credited as the director on all eight episodes. This marks the first time since 2011’s Bag Of Bones that a single director has made every chapter of a small screen Stephen King adaptation.

J.J. Abrams Is Producing Lisey’s Story

There are few pop culture pies that J.J. Abrams doesn’t have a finger in these days, and that extends to Stephen King adaptations as well. The two creatives first had the chance to work together when Abrams produced the 11.22.63 miniseries for Hulu, and that project with the streamer was followed up by a collaboration on the show Castle Rock. Sadly the Maine-set show won’t be coming back for a third season, but the Abrams-King relationship has held strong thanks to the former having a hand in developing Lisey’s Story for Apple TV+.

Julianne Moore Is Playing Lisey

The titular character in Lisey’s Story is Lisey Debusher Landon, who we meet while she is trying to figure out her life two years after the death of her husband, author Scott Landon. This includes dealing with the literary works that her husband never had published – which unfortunately winds up bringing trouble to her doorstep. Julianne Moore is set to play the lead role in the Apple TV+ miniseries, marking her second time being in a Stephen King adaptation after the Kimberly Pierce-directed remake of Carrie (though she does also have a part in the horror anthology Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, which features a segment based on King’s story “The Cat From Hell.”)

Clive Owen Is Playing Lisey’s Late Husband Scott

Clive Owen is another newbie in the world of Stephen King adaptations, but he will play the key role of Scott Landon in Lisey’s Story. Though Scott is dead when the book begins, he has a massive part to play that emerges through the narrative’s non-linear structure. Trying not to reveal too much to those who haven’t read the novel, let’s just say that it’s not just the baggage of Scott’s books that Lisey has to deal with, as he is a character with a complicated and horrifying past.

Joan Allen And Jennifer Jason Leigh Have Key Supporting Roles

Unlike Julianne Moore and Clive Owen, both Joan Allen (A Good Marriage) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (Dolores Claiborne) have been a part of Stephen King adaptations before, and they will both be back in action for key supporting roles in Lisey’s Story. While the part played by Leigh has not yet been confirmed, Allen will be play Amanda Debusher, Lisey’s emotionally fragile sister who winds up being a key piece in the plot’s central mystery.

The Lisey's Story Cast Also Includes Sung Kang, Dane DeHaan, And Ron Cephas Jones

In case the aforementioned four award-winning stars weren’t enough to get you excited, Lisey’s Story also has an outstanding supporting cast that includes Sung Kang, Dane DeHaan, and Ron Cephas Jones. Kang will play Dan Beckman, a police officer who is assigned to watch over Lisey’s house after she receives a disturbing threat; DeHaan is bringing to life Jim Dooley, the man responsible for said disturbing threat; and Cephas Jones is Professor Roger Dashmiel, a professor from Scott Landon's alma mater.

Lisey’s Story Will Be Arriving June 4

Lisey’s Story was originally planned as a 2020 release, but the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted production before shooting was finished. As a result the schedule had to be delayed, but now the project has finished filming and is in post-production – and it means that we are only months away from seeing it in its finished form. It was officially announced by Apple in January 2021 that the Stephen King adaptation is on their slate for the year, and it's been clarified since that it will arrive on June 4 with a two-episode premiere. So you may proceed waiting for it with baited breath.

Hopefully it won’t be long before more information is revealed about Lisey’s Story, and when it arrives we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it will contain some first-looks. We’re as excited as you are to see what this miniseries is going to be, so stay on the lookout for more news, features, and updates!

When a franchise reaches a certain length, one of the coolest special features is the ability to have legacy characters make splashy re-appearances. This is a dramatic trick that the Fast and the Furious movies have pulled off before, for example with the return of Lucas Black's Sean Boswell's in Furious 7, but now it looks like F9 is set to do it again. While we can't be entirely certain, there's a possibility that the brand new Super Bowl spot for the blockbuster gives away the return of Twinkie, the character played by Bow Wow in The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift.

In order to spot him in the F9 trailer, you really have to be paying attention – and, again, we can't be certain that it's actually him. If you start playing the trailer, pay attention to the picnic table that appears about three seconds in (immediately after the close-up shot of Han and Sean Boswell hugging). Dom (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and their daughter are approaching their friends, and it appears that Twinkie is sitting between Han and Sean. For those who are keeping track of the wild Fast And Furious continuity, it's not exactly a stretch that Bow Wow's Twinkie could be making a return in F9. Every movie after Furious 7 is set after The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift, and when we last left Twinkie in that story he was living a peaceful life in Tokyo after Sean Boswell dominated in the underground drifting competition. Exactly what he's been up to since then is obviously a mysterious, but that could be a part of the fun seeing him pop up again in the new blockbuster.

Perhaps more importantly, the presence of Twinkie could be a clue regarding the return of Han in F9. They were allies together in Tokyo prior the Han's "death," so is it outside the realm of possibility that Twinkie had some role in his rescue from the hit orchestrated by Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw? That curiosity is more than enough to make up for the surprise spoiled by this potential leak.

Should Bow Wow actually be in F9, he will be a part of an expansive cast that includes not only the aforementioned Sung Kang, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Lucas Black, but also Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron. While it's likely that the film won't actually arrive until theaters are ready to fully reopen, Universal Pictures currently has the movie dated for release on the big screen on May 22.

Of all the 2020 films that were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the newest Fast & Furious installment -- F9 -- definitely stands as one of the productions moviegoers were most looking forward to. Trailers have teased another high-octane adventure that will challenge Dominic Toretto and his “family.” But one of the biggest shockers of that trailer was the reveal of Sung Kang’s seemingly resurrected Han Lue. Many are still trying to figure out how the character has returned, but the internet has rejoiced since the development was made known. Now, franchise star and producer Vin Diesel is opening up about why it’s so important to do the character justice in his return.

Han was originally introduced and killed off during the events of 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Though the character was later brought back in films that were chronologically set before Tokyo Drift, fans were disappointed with how his story ultimately ended. This led to the #JusticeForHan movement, which was later utilized by F9 when the trailer dropped. Vin Diesel is fully aware of how important the character is to the film series and, for F9, he sought to utilize him in a way that was fitting of that:

When Vin Diesel’s Dom appeared in the closing moments of Tokyo Drift and was established as a friend of Han’s, it seemed to be just a quick way to further link the Fast & Furious world. But subsequent films like Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 showed how deep their friendship is.

The sentiments Vin Diesel shared with EW show just how committed he is to giving the fans what they want but also how he tries to move the franchise forward with thoughtful ideas -- as wild as some may be. Yet here, it certainly sounds like Diesel and director Justin Lin had good reasons for reviving Han.

As you would imagine, Sung Kang is particularly excited about reprising his role as his fan-favorite character. The actor, of course, can’t divulge any of the details surrounding Han’s return, but he has expressed his hope that fans will be pleased.

It’s hard to predict how the Fast & Furious franchise will explain Han’s reappearance. But this is honestly far from the hardest thing the series has ever had to clarify. And fans are likely to accept any explanation if it just means having Han back in the fold.

F9 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2021.

Justice for Han. It became a rallying cry for die-hard Fast & Furious fans following the resolution of the latest chapter, The Fate of the Furious. As the story concludes, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) reunites with his family, explaining that the presence of his infant son is the reason why he had to go rogue and help a cyber terrorist known as Cipher (Charlize Theron). But in that close-knit group of confidantes? Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), the man who -- just two movies ago -- took out Han (Sung Kang), a former member of Dom's crew. Was the notion of "family" expressed by Dom and his team a lie? Fast screenwriter Chris Morgan mulls that important question over in a recent interview, promising fans:

The Fate of the Furious, directed by F. Gary Gray, is now being positioned as the start of a new trilogy of Fast & Furious films, which would take the series through Fast 10. If you step back and ask why, the answer might be money. Fate broke records when it opened globally a few days back, and Hollywood rarely kills a cash cow.

But the interviews between the L.A. Times and key Fast & Furious members suggest that they are NOT taking the murder of Han lightly, and just as producer Neal Moritz told us that future installments will address Shaw's role in the killing, that sentiment is echoed by Chris Morgan, who explains:

And likely sooner rather than later. With The Fate of the Furious cleaning up at the box office, and the feud between The Rock and Vin Diesel on the backburner (for now), production on Fast & Furious 9 should get underway before too long. SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains massive spoilers for The Fate of the Furious. If you have not yet seen the film, please bookmark this page, and return to it after your screening!

In case you haven't heard, there is a certain word that has been used for many years to explain the key theme of the Fast and Furious movies: family. No matter how big the action gets, or how many countries the lead ensemble travels to, the core of the films is meant to be Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) willing to put everything on the line for those closest to him. In the latest chapter of the series, The Fate of the Furious, this idea is directly challenged, but not only because Dom finds himself nearly killing all of people he loves. It's also because the film bafflingly pretends that Sung Kang's Han Seoul-Oh -- a key character in four of the sequels -- never existed.

With the exception of the Vin Diesel cameo, Han spent a long time as the primary link between the events of The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and the rest of the franchise -- but that was also a period he spent as a "doomed" character. Han actually dies during the events of the third chapter in the series, but because that narrative was set after the events of Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6, he was given time on screen to become a central member of Dominic Toretto's family. You'd think that all this history would mean something to the group, but it doesn't seem that way watching The Fate of the Furious, given that Dom never for a moment hesitates about teaming up with Han's killer, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).

While the eighth Fast & Furious movie highlights its "Han problem," it's actually an issue that has been with the franchise since Furious 7. With Deckard killing Han being featured at the very end of Fast & Furious 6, the aftermath is left to be dealt with by the next film... but it doesn't really do a satisfactory job. There is a funeral sequence with the "family" members in attendance, but once that is over and done with, the film hastily moves forward with its international adventure and never looks back. Certainly one factor playing into this choice must have been the death of Paul Walker -- which required Furious 7 to dedicate its ending as a send-off for Brian, but the issue gets much, much worse in The Fate of the Furious.

From a macro perspective, it's bad enough that Han isn't mentioned by name once in The Fate of the Furious' 136 minute runtime, but the narrative progression makes things a whole lot worse. When Deckard Shaw is introduced in the new movie, it is as an antagonist... but only because of the throw down between him and Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs in the previous movie. Hobbs is plenty and understandably pissed that Shaw nearly killed both himself and his partner, and has a chip on his shoulder throughout the movie as a result (mind you his personal issues don't really involve Han) -- but the same can't be said for any other member of the main cast. Not only is there extremely limited protest from Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges), or Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), but Dom formulates an entire plan around getting Shaw to help out with his personal mission. How did all of these people completely forget that the guy killed one of their best friends?

The Fate of the Furious really rubs it in with the last scene of the film, as Han's killer not only shows up for a family dinner, but does so carrying what has been established as the one thing in the world that can get Dom to betray all of his values. It's a set-up that presumably will allow Deckard Shaw to join the ensemble in their next adventure, but it's hard to see how the franchise does that without coming across as incredibly hypocritical. When we spoke with producer Neal Moritz about it recently, he had this to say:

Even if it is brought up in whatever the ninth movie is called, how do introduce the topic without it being incredibly awkward following The Fate of the Furious? Shaw will have every right to call out Dom as a phony for everything he did in the previous adventure, and it will still come across like Dom suddenly remembers how Han died. It's easy to see the appeal of having Jason Statham as a key member of the franchise going forward, but the series has also used him to dig a seriously big whole for itself.

So far this summer we've felt spoiled for choice when it comes to gonzo, over-the-top spectacle. We've seen sprawling Iron Man battles, attacks on ninja mountain, breathtaking space jumps, dazzling bacchanal, and all the madness that was Fast and Furious 6. But this week sees the release of one of our most anticipated summer movies, Kings of Summer. And though it provides none of the insane level of action of its big budget competitors, this heartfelt indie comedy does offer one of the most winsomely scene-stealing performances of the summer.

Kings of Summer was first a hit at Sundance, and since then buzz has been building about director Jordon Vogt-Roberts' sensational first feature. Centered on three teen boys who run away into the wilderness to construct their own house and make their own rules, its story allows for plenty of shenanigans. But all the best lines go to a bizarre boy named Biaggio.

Played by former Hannah Montana star Moises Arias, Biaggio is a boy who is deeply different from his peers. He asks his father for advice in a mode that seems straight from a Fellini movie or a telenovela. He buys new clothes to live in the woods for a summer, but leaves on a telltale size sticker. He considers himself genderless and measures travel distance by how much he and his companion have bonded. He's almost too strange to fit in this otherwise grounded movie, but Arias' nails the portrayal of the weird kid we all knew growing up. You know, the one who just showed up where you were going without being invited? The one who meant well, but said the oddest things in casual conversation? That's Biaggio.

While there's plenty to praise about Kings of Summer, it's Arias' comedic sidekick that will make this movie most memorable. He's Alan in The Hangover or Megan in Bridesmaids. And hopefully, like their performers, Zach Galfianakis and Melissa McCarthy, we'll be hearing much more from this young comedic actor soon. But Arias is not the only spotlight stealer this summer! The first came in the form of G.I. Joe: Retaliation's Storm Shadow.

Sure, this side-switching ninja appeared in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra too, but who can remember that movie? It's here in Retaliation that the franchise's filmmakers realized what they had in South Korean star Byung-hun Lee and went for it! Besides giving Storm Shadow an emotional subplot of his own, and putting him at the center of the movie's most outrageous action set piece (unofficially known as Ninja Mountain), they also recognized Lee's leading man potential. His biggest moment to shine is undoubtedly when he leads a mostly one-man assault on the prison that holds Cobra Commander. It's a prison so deep in the Earth it's in international territory (think about that a sec.) And Storm Shadow makes it fall under his mighty martial arts! Also annihilated? His shirt, that explodes off of him from sheer muscle madness.

Besides playing Storm Shadow, Lee has fronted such eye-catching South Korean offerings as Kim Jee-woon's The Good, the Bad, and the Weird and I Saw the Devil, a cat-and-mouse thriller that seems ripe for an English-language remake…possibly with him reprising his role as vengeance-seeking special agent? With so many of Hollywood's actions stars aged out of their prime, it's about time we brought in some new blood. And Lee has got the physical prowess, swoon-worthy good looks, and steely charm to shoulder a slick and showy actioner. Next up, he'll have a supporting role in Red 2 opposite Bruce Willis (once again). Here's hoping by 2014 we'll be seeing him off the sidelines and fully in the spotlight. And maybe with his shirt off more times.

And last but not least in our most exciting summer scene-stealers is a Fast & Furious 6's Han. Though the unflappable and streetsmart character has been around since Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift (AKA Fast 3), he really had his moment to standout this time around. Even amongst a charisma-stacked ensemble that includes Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Gina Carano, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris, it's Georgia-born actor Sung Kang who gave us the most feels on this adventure. Part of it was the evolution of Han's romantic relationship with "family" member Gisele (Gal Gadot). As the two perfectly timed one fight after another to watch each other's backs whatever the stakes, we fell hard (Oof. Too soon?)

While the Fast and Furious movies are built with bunches of flashy dialogue, Han never needed many lines to win our attention or affection. He's arguably the least showy of the group, and yet Furious 6 has us pining for a Han and Giselle spin-off movie. Of course, that would probably be shot after James Wan's Fast & Furious 7, but be set between Fast Five and Furious 6. Still, with the way Lin has created a fluid filmic universe for the series that allows it to shift tone yet remain connected, this seems totally doable. Or maybe—as was suggested on Op Kino—Lin could be considered for Star Wars 8, and Han (a character created pre-Tokyo Drift in Lin's Better Luck Tomorrow) could be brought into the Star Wars universe. After all, his full name is Han Seoul-oh.

The 1980s were revolutionary for the action movie genre. The levels of violence were raised, catch phrases were born, and muscles and guns were celebrated. Names like Sylvester Stallone, Walter Hill, Chuck Norris, Shane Black, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joel Silver and Jean-Claude Van Damme found their niche in the genre.

But things have changed greatly snce then. New technologies, both in filmmaking and in everyday life, have completely revolutionized and changed the way action movies are made and the stories that are told, from the CGI heavy Marvel movies to the tech driven plots of the Bourne franchise. And now we have Bullet To The Head in theaters marrying the two together.

In the film, written by Alessandro Camon based on the graphic novel by Alexis Nolent, Stallone and Sung Kang star as Jimmy Bobo and Taylor Kwon, a hitman and a cop who are brought together to hunt down the man who killed Jimmy's partner and uncover a massive conspiracy. With the help of Jimmy's daughter Lisa, played by Sarah Shahi, they put together the clues and hunt for justice by any means necessary.

Thanks to tweets and on-set photos, there isn't a great deal of mystery surrounding the cast of Fast Five, the next installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise. It's been well established that the film would be a reunion of sorts, bringing back characters from previous installments, including Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. Now, casting has been officially announced and has come paired with an official synopsis.

In addition to confirming that the film's events will take place after those in Fast & Furious, the release confirms the presence of Jordana Brewster, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, and, the big new addition, Dwayne Johnson as federal agent Luke Hobbs. Scope it all out below.
