When the Dutton family parted ways after Yellowstone ended, two new shows were born: Kayce’s CBS spinoff, Marshals, and Rip and Beth’s Paramount+ show, Dutton Ranch. Now, we’re learning more about what it was like to continue these characters’ stories after the flagship show ended. In terms of Rip and Beth’s project, Cole Hauser opened up about why “everything changed” after Yellowstone ended and they started working on this Texas-set show.

Now, Kelly Reilly has shared her thoughts on how Beth changed between Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch. Ed Harris has also shared his grievances about working on the show. Plus, with a change in showrunner after Season 1, it was clear that this production wasn’t all smooth sailing. Cole Hauser also admitted that returning to Rip and his story was a “challenge.” He laid out the reasons why too, telling FilmInside:

Kelly Reilly has also spoken about how not having Taylor Sheridan captaining the spinoff impacted her too. He was the driving force of Yellowstone, so of course, new creatives mean change is bound to happen.

Plus, with the only major returning players being Hauser, Reilly, Finn Little and Christina Alexandra Voros, who has directed episodes for a lot of Sheridan’s shows, including Yellowstone, it’s not like they could work like this was Yellowstone Season 6. No, there was a whole new team they had to collaborate with, which meant they all had to learn how to work together for essentially the first time.

On top of that, over the last few months, there have been reports about alleged tension between the cast and creator/former showrunner Chad Feehan. While we don’t know exactly what led to his departure, it has been alleged that Ed Harris’ complaints about his character and the show had an impact on Feehan’s exit and the hiring of Benjamin Cavell as the showrunner for Season 2.

Alleged drama aside, Hauser did confirm that working with a different team and only having a few returning players made working on Dutton Ranch difficult. However, he still enjoyed his time, and he’s also excited to start working on Season 2. To that point, he said:

We worked our asses off this year. And I don't think a lot of the outside noise or the thought of 'What's the weight of this show?' was really apparent to me at the time. It was about putting my head down and working my ass off with what I had around me, the writers that we had, the new writers that we had. We had to figure out on our feet how to really perform and tell a story. I'm proud of what we accomplished, and I'm looking forward to doing it again.

I’m also looking forward to them doing this again. However, this time, I hope it’s a bit easier for all of them.

I also hope we’ll get to see new episodes sooner rather than later, too. Dutton Ranch was renewed for Season 2 a few weeks before Season 1’s finale, and we know production is set to start in early 2027. So, here’s hoping the cast and crew have an easier time making this series, and we’ll get to see this Yellowstone continuation thrive as it gets back in the saddle for its sophomore season.

The first season of Dutton Ranch went about as well as Taylor Sheridan & Co. could have hoped, as far as delivering stellar ratings from the very start, to the point where it was the fifth most-watched show of the 2025-2026 TV season. Behind the scenes, however, things were slightly less than hunky-dory, at least when it comes to esteemed co-star Ed Harris, who spoke harshly about feeling he was misled regarding his character's involvement.

Harris went off on a mini-rant about filming Season 1 of Dutton Ranch while giving an interview for his Apple TV film The Dink, saying he was sold on his character Everett being one of the four leads, and that he'd have major impact on the story. The actor did not feel that promise was delivered on whatsoever, and even though his complaints are only now making headlines, Deadline reports that Harris' dissatisfaction was directly responsible for creator and former showrunner Chad Feehan exiting the drama.

At the time, no details were provided regarding the specifics for why Feehan vacated the series, his second showrunning gig for Taylor Sheridan after Lawman: Bass Reeves. But if it was indeed due to creative differences involving one of the show's most globally renowned stars, I can understand why that was kept from public knowledge.

Though it isn't clear if Harris and Feehan talked their grievances out ahead of the latter's exit, it does seem like the actor took a vested interest in making sure the replacement wouldn't step in and pull something similar. It's reported that he was involved with seeking out and securing Feehan's replacement.

Dutton Ranch's new showrunner is Benjamin Cavell, whose next TV effort will be the second season of MGM+'s upcoming Stephen King adaptation The Institute. He previously developed Paramount+'s The Stand miniseries, and also created the CBS-turned-streaming drama SEAL Team. Though arguably the gig that makes him the best fit for Rip and Beth's world is his seasons writing for Justified.

Cole Hauser previously talked about Ed Harris having a bigger role to play in Season 2, which feels pretty prophetic in hindsight, as far as the actor getting ahead of any potential drama by pointing out Everett's uptick in appearances. Or maybe he was just genuinely excited about working with the Hollywood legend more. Both can be true.

One of the bigger gripes Harris had was about a scene from the premiere episode in which his character was meant to sing a song on stage in a bar. It doesn't sound like he was overwhelmed with excitement about filming it, and in the end, the scene wasn't even used in the final edit. According to Harris:

Perhaps ironically, Ed Harris doesn't necessarily think it's clear after watching the first season of Dutton Ranch that Everett was indeed underused. But that doesn't devalue his experiences during the production. As he put it:

I can't wait to see how Season 2 plays out now, and whether or not Everett will immediately have huge stakes to deal with right out of the gate now that Benajamin Cavell is in the showrunner seat. It likely isn't getting here until 2027, but in the meantime, all of Season 1 can be streamed in full via Paramount+ subscription.

The 2025-2026 TV season officially ended more than a month ago, and there’s excitement for the back half of the 2026 TV schedule to deliver returning fall favorites, new Netflix shows and more. But first, praise and attention must be given to all the biggest shows from the past year that drew the largest crowds across broadcast, cable and streaming. Unsurprisingly, mega-producer Taylor Sheridan is all over that list, with three shows sitting very comfortably in the Top 10. Just not in the very top spots.

Nielsen has unveiled its latest comprehensive stats on 2025-2026 TV (via Variety), and as it usually goes, sports programming accounts for the biggest viewing audiences, with Super Bowl LX garnering the most massive viewership. But when we factor out sports and other live events, and focus squarely on scripted creations and docuseries, that’s when Sheridan and other small-screen favorites can rise up.

Landman And Both Yellowstone Spinoffs Are In The Top 10

Both seasons of Billy Bob Thornton's Landman broke viewership records for Paramount+, and both of those were then topped by Dutton Ranch's series premiere ratings. So it's only logical that both of those shows are represented in Nielsen's rundown in the #4 and #5 spots, respectively.

Over on CBS, Marshals took Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton and the Yellowstone-verse into more serialized storytelling, and did not suffer any dramatic viewership drops because of it. In fact, it cam in just behind Dutton Ranch at #6, with a difference of only around 100,000 viewers. I would love to know how much overlap there is between those two audience groups.

If the two shows manage to pull off a crossover episode that brings Beth and Kayce together again, I bet that ends up being the most-watched episode of any Sheridan-produced series that year. Unless of course both shows are watched by the same number of people, in which case the stats would probably look pretty similar.

Also worth noting: The Madison, which isn't a Yellowstone spinoff even if it originally was conceived as such, is tied in the #19 slot with Ghosts and Will Trent.

Netflix Is Still The King, Though

Though Taylor Sheridan's dramas can obviously draw big crowds, it would have been pretty miraculous had any of them managed to take down the biggest TV hit of the streaming era, Stranger Things. Naturally, the split-up fifth and final season took over the highest spot on the Top 10, without the need for multiple platforms to enter the mix.

Below Hawkins' finest, Netflix also boasts the #2 spot with the first season of Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson's His & Hers , as well as the #3 slot with the 50 Cent-produced unscripted series Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which banked several Emmy nominations for the rapper.

Across the full Top 25, Netflix also ranked for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, The Beast In Me, The Boroughs, and The Lincoln Lawyer. The last two of those were canceled this year, and those seems like even wilder decisions now that the numbers are in.

Beyond Marshals and Tracker, CBS / Paramount + also populated the Top 25 with Matlock, Sheriff Country, Ghosts, NCIS, and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Not too shabby, although I can't be the only one shocked to not see Boston Blue in the lineup.

I'd also be remiss if I didn't celebrate the hell out of High Potential's second season being watched by enough people to secure its Top 10 placement. Let's make all the Kaitlin Olson shows the most-watched shows on TV.

Next up for Taylor Sheridan is the third season of Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman's Lioness set to stream via Paramount+ subscription, so expect to see that one showing up in the Top 10 next year.

While Dutton Ranch is a direct extension of Yellowstone and it really is a continuation of Beth and Rip’s story, some things about it are a bit different. For example, Beth has evolved since the end of Yellowstone. That’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s been fun to see a different side of her as the spinoff aired on the 2026 TV schedule. However, according to Kelly Reilly, her character changed partially because Taylor Sheridan was no longer writing her.

Unlike Yellowstone, where Taylor Sheridan is credited as a writer on every single episode, he’s only credited on Dutton Ranch as a writer because the show is based on characters he created. In an interview with THR, Reilly addressed how that’s changed things. Specifically opening up about what it was like to return to this character and not say words written by Sheridan, the actress explained:

I totally get what she’s saying. If you watch Yellowstone with a Peacock subscription, Beth is such a strong character. She’s aggressive, direct and will fearlessly say anything. All that is still true in Dutton Ranch (which you can stream with a Paramount+ subscription). However, she’s not as much of a tornado as she used to be. She’s slightly more collected and a little more level-headed, in my opinion.

It turns out that shift in character came, in part, because Sheridan wasn’t writing Dutton Ranch. He's credited as an EP, but this spinoff was created by Chad Feehan (who was also the showrunner for Season 1), and it was written by a whole team of people. To me, felt like a natural evolution for Beth, as she entered a brand new phase of life. Speaking to those points, Reilly said:

As Reilly explained, Beth is still very much the Beth. She has her aggressive moments, and she is not afraid to stand up to Annette Bening’s Beulah. However, on the whole, she’s a bit more openly vulnerable in this show. That could be because she’s entered a new phase of life, as the Yellowstone actress said:

While I do think Beth’s iconic and brutal Yellowstone moments helped make this franchise what it is, I also am here for this new side of her character.

Yes, it was daunting to go into this show, seemingly for her, and for me as a fan, without Sheridan writing. He’d penned all the Yellowstone stories (except Marshals and this show) beforehand, so it was nerve-wracking to see the franchise move forward with other creatives. However, it also provided an opportunity to see the characters in a new light.

Now, with Dutton Ranch renewed for Season 2 and a new showrunner, Benjamin Cavell, at the helm, it will be interesting to see how Beth and Rip continue to evolve.

When the 2026 Emmy nominations were announced, plenty of surprises cropped up, from Widow’s Bay’s 19 nods to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms getting recognition, and even a post-cancellation nomination or two for certain shows. But maybe the biggest non-surprise for those paying attention was the complete lack of awareness for the various dramas created and/or produced by Taylor Sheridan. As it usually goes, the prolific creator’s various TV ventures were all but ignored.

Despite having one of the biggest streaming shows currently in production, with Landman’s numbers seemingly only beat by Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch, as well as a major ratings-grabber with CBS’ Marshals, Taylor Sheridan can’t seem to cross the gap from being popular with viewers to being exalted with awards nominations. It seemed like this could have been the year that reversed the trend, too, thanks to Michelle Pfeiffer’s work on The Madison and both Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton’s runs in Landman Season 2, among others.

Unfortunately, despite a reportedly lofty For Your Consideration push meant to sway more voters into praising Sheridan & Co.’s efforts, the vast majority of his creations were not namechecked by nominee announcers Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller. In fact, only one of the mega-producer’s series earned a nom, and not for acting, directing or writing.

A big congrats to Freddie Poole for his third nomination for his Tulsa King work, following previous nods in 2025 and 2023. He didn't win with either of those, but this could be his year.

Granted, it's not like Taylor Sheridan was previously an Emmys king due toYellowstone's success. Quite the opposite, in fact, as the Kevin Costner-led western was only granted a SINGLE nomination during its five-season run, and it was for Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More).

Taylor Sheridan Prophetically Addressed His Emmys Perma-Snubbing A Week Prior To The Latest Noms

Rarely one to deliver extended mainstream media interviews, Taylor Sheridan stopped by The Bill Simmons Podcast to chat up its hugely popular host about the ups and downs of his career journey. And in the midst of that conversation, he summed up his creative process by saying he creates what he wants to see on TV, and that those who partner with him on his "common people" projects are not going to need to install extra wall shelves for Emmy awards. In his words:

To be sure, a lot of shows that DO get Emmy nominations and wins pull off the same things that Sheridan mentions above. Just not in the same ways, and usually without the innate disdain for award shows happening behind the scenes.

Dutton Ranch wrapped up its first season run during the 2026 TV schedule, but assumedly missed the deadline required for that spinoff to be eligible for nominations. Even knowing how much the TV Academy ignores these shows, I still think both Ed Harris and Annette Bening have marginal shots at getting recognized, and I'll be bummed out to learn I'm wrong next year at this time.

Lots of amazing and critically lauded shows go their full runs without winning any Emmys, from The Wire to Better Call Saul to The Good Place. But those examples and many more at least got some Emmy nominations to help ease the pain. Maybe shifting his creative headquarters to NBCUniversal will be the trick that finally gets Taylor Sheridan some Emmy love. Unless it isn't.

Though he may never speak very highly about the business side of television, Taylor Sheridan undoubtedly has a passion for storytelling, as evidenced by the seven drama series that are currently active within the 2026 TV schedule. Yellowstone was the franchise goose that started it all, and for all that I enjoy Dutton Ranch and Marshals, the mothership western’s controversial final season will always spark “What could have been…” regrets. Now, though, Sheridan shared a fuller explanation for the chaos, and I finally understand.

At the time, rumors and reports made it seem like Kevin Costner was breaking away from the Paramount Network hit to focus on his own passion projects, and that Sheridan and others were trying to hamstring the actor to keep him tethered to the role of John Dutton. Which, as fans know, led to Costner’s midseason exit and a creative shift. Appearing on The Bill Simmons Podcast, the Landman creator clarified the situation by hammering home that John was never meant to be around that long. In his words:

Thinking back to how Season 3 played out, it’s easy to see how Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner were setting the pieces so that the Dutton patriarch would have to pass the responsibilities of the ranch over to Kayce, presumably with Jamie kicking up dust over it all. I mean, it ended with John being shot and left for dead on the side of the road. Not much ambiguity there.

However, John returned to full-ish health over the course of the next season, and Sheridan says that was all due to Paramount execs balking at the thought of losing the biggest star on the cable network. As he put it:

At the time, even Kevin Costner made it sound like he was leaving, which he probably thought was a likelihood, only to get brought back into the fold for another one and a half seasons. That was still during the first year of COVID, though, when new productions were few and far between. So it’s possible the timing of the pandemic also played into everyone’s decision-making.

To that end, Sheridan says Yellowstone’s ballooning success was such that the show was apparently used as a bargaining chip for licensing deals. In his words:

Though it doesn't sound like Season 4's production was overly stressful, the behind-the-scenes issues had clearly blossomed over time, to the point where the drama went fully public after the fifth season's winter finale, thus putting the show in the wrong kind of spotlight for the rest of its run. Which is what convinced Costner to bow out and focus on his Horizon films. As Sheridan put it:

Not only does that explanation add necessary context to all the issues with Season 5, but it also sheds light on why Yellowstone seemed to lose some of its narrative momentum going into Season 4 in general.

Now that we know there apparently isn't any truly bad blood between Sheridan and Costner, and that Paramount was a bigger instigator than we'd previously known. Does that mean we'll get a flashback in Dutton Ranch down the line between Kelly Reilly's Beth and her father? It doesn't seem all that impossible now.

Beloved Yellowstone vet Cole Hauser is back in the role of Rip Wheeler for the neo-western’s spinoff Dutton Ranch, currently a 2026 TV schedule staple streaming via Paramount+ subscription, where he’s now the king of the castle (so to speak) alongside his queen Beth Dutton. It’s almost impossible not to be intimidated by the character, given his proficiency with seemingly everything involved with ranching and cowboy life. It’s an element that Hauser gives franchise co-creator Taylor Sheridan full credit for, in regards to the pre-production “Cowboy Camp” that the actors go through.

A lot of Yellowstone diehards are aware of the training process that Sheridan & Co. have made a staple of the Yellowstone prequels and follow-ups, and that it’s about more than just roping and riding, even if those two elements are certainly vital to the cause. But Hauser doesn’t think enough people are aware of how much he in particular went through to give Rip the foundational confidence and know-how required. As he put it when speaking to Shortlist in a clip shared to Instagram:

If Taylor Sheridan ever brings his shortlived reality show The Last Cowboy back to primetime as a celebrity-infused version, I'm guessing Cole Hauser would be among the first people called in to star. That hypothesis is kind of useless, unlike the many skills that Hauser was trained to be proficient in while on the ranch. The kind of skills that left one actor with permanent scars on his butt cheeks.

It almost seems like it'd be two different courses involved. A. How to Cowboy, and B. How to Cowboy in Texas' Godawful Heat. Hauser has talked about how much different filming down south was in that respect, where he couldn't keep his additional Rip weight on as easily as he could in Montana.

When asked by the interviewer about cutting, which fans have definitely seen Rip and other Yellowstone-verse characters taking part in, Hauser shared:

Things are only getting more cutting and heated on Dutton Ranch, as evidenced by the latest episode, as well as the preview for the upcoming installment "Whiskey Limits." (The series recently namechecked the late, not-so-great Jamie Dutton, whose Wes Bentley also had to ace the Cowboy Camp.) Check the promo out below.

So I'm not sure if the quickest or easiest way to learn how to cowboy is "getting a job on a Taylor Sheridan western," but it does sound like the best possible shortcut to making it look good on TV. Might not help. you land a job at any ranches Sheridan doesn't have an ownership stake in, but maybe.

Dutton Ranch, unsurprisingly, is one of the hits on the 2026 TV schedule. However, what is surprising is just how big a hit it is. In fact, it’s so popular it crushed a Paramount+ record. Now, Cole Hauser is sharing a message for the fans who helped make this Yellowstone spinoff so successful right out of the gate.

When Rip and Beth made their return to our screens in the newest Yellowstone show, Dutton Ranch, people with a Paramount+ subscription tuned in. And they did so in a big way, as the series had the biggest debut in the streaming service’s history. So, the actor who plays Rip celebrated on Instagram with a graphic about the record and the following caption:

To put this post into context, according to Nielsen’s data, 12.9 million viewers watched Dutton Ranch within its first week on Paramount+. Those are massive numbers, especially when you consider that The Madison had the most successful debut among Taylor Sheridan’s projects up to this point, as it brought in 8 million viewers within its first 10 days on the streamer.

It’s clear that Hauser wants to maintain those numbers too, as he noted in his post that he wants to “keep [Dutton Ranch] rollin.” While the series has not been renewed for a second season, I would imagine that it will be.

Looking back at Yellowstone’s history, it ran for five seasons, it has two very successful prequel series, and Marshals was renewed for its second season less than two weeks after it premiered on CBS. Plus, other shows related to Taylor Sheridan have lived long lives, with The Madison getting renewed for a third season after Season 1 aired, and other shows like Landman, Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown all working on new installments.

So, I will be genuinely shocked if Dutton Ranch does not return for a second season. People love Rip and Beth, and this show has also introduced us to more new and compelling characters played by A-listers Annette Bening and Ed Harris. I already am clamouring for more of this Texas-set show, and I would assume the vast majority of the 12.9 million people who have tuned in are too.

I really can’t downplay the popularity of Yellowstone. The flagship series, which you can stream with a Peacock subscription, was a huge hit that crushed it in the ratings. Then, Marshals' premiere on CBS brought in 9.52 million viewers, which made it the “best scripted premiere without a football lead in" since FBI premiered in 2018. So, Dutton Ranch continuing this streak makes sense.

And it seems like Cole Hauser wants to keep the hype going. Not only did he thank the fans for helping them break this Paramount+ record, but he also encouraged them to keep it up as the show continues to drop new episodes every Friday.

As Yellowstone enters a new era with two sequel series, Taylor Sheridan is taking a step back. That’s because Kayce’s show, Marshals, was created by Spencer Hudnut (who is also the showrunner), while Rip and Beth’s spinoff, Dutton Ranch, was created and run by Chad Feehan. However, Feehan is no longer with the show, and as that development has made headlines, so have some old comments of Sheridan’s regarding why he “won’t compromise.”

Dutton Ranch Lost Its Showrunner Right Before The Premiere

Three weeks before Dutton Ranch’s premiere on the 2026 TV schedule, news broke (via Variety) that showrunner Chad Feehan will not return to the series if it gets renewed. Considering the track record Taylor Sheridan’s shows have, as well as the success of the other current Yellowstone spinoff, Marshals, it will be shocking if Rip and Beth’s series only gets one season.

According to the outlet, a Puck report claimed that the spinoff's stars, Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, as well as 101 Studios boss David Glasser, were not pleased with how the former showrunner was dealing with the production.

This is, notably, not the first time a series connected to Taylor Sheridan has faced major behind-the-scenes shakeups. So, with that in mind, some old quotes of his have resurfaced.

Old Quotes From Taylor Sheridan About Why He ‘Won’t Compromise’ Have Resurfaced

Amid all this, some old comments from Sheridan about why he “won’t compromise” have cropped back up, via Us Weekly. Back in 2023, he did an interview with THR about his work, and there is a section devoted to why he doesn’t do writers' rooms or compromise on certain parts of his work. He said during the early days of his television universe, the plan was for him to “write, cast and direct the pilots,” and then someone else would take over, but “that plan failed.” He went on to explain why writers' rooms didn’t work on shows like Tulsa King and Lioness:

At the time, Tulsa King’s showrunner Terence Winter left, but he returned as the show’s head writer while Sheridan didn’t hire a showrunner for Season 2. Then, Dave Erickson was brought on to run Season 3. However, due to reported friction between him and the project’s star, Sylvester Stallone, he stepped down, and the series has gone into Season 4 without a showrunner. Instead, an executive in charge of production from 101 Studios is overseeing it.

Meanwhile, Sheridan started writing Lioness himself.

So, when it comes to why Sheridan feels the need to do a lot of the work himself, he said:

Now, is this what led to issues on Dutton Ranch? The answer is not clear. As I mentioned, it’s been reported that Feehan will not return because there was allegedly friction between him and the show’s leads. It was also alleged that Sheridan and his producing partner, Glasser, weren’t happy with how the production was being run.

However, this isn’t the first time a show related to Taylor Sheridan has faced major behind-the-scenes changes. It’s also well known that he likes to have creative control over a lot of his work. But in this new era of Yellowstone, will things be different? I guess time will tell as we continue to watch Marshals (which has been renewed for a second season) and set our sights on Dutton Ranch, which will premiere for those with a Paramount+ subscription on Friday, May 15.

Kurt Russell is the perfect amount of “Hollywood cool” where he can look at a classic modern western like Tombstone and think, “Not as good as it could have been.” He’s obviously a perfect fit for seemingly any of Taylor Sheridan’s original series, but it was the no-longer-a-Yellowstone-spinoff The Madison that swayed him to signing on for his second series hitting the 2026 TV schedule. He’s still a series regular on Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (though presumably not the spinoff on the way centered on his character).

So what was it that drew him in? I’m sure whatever the payday was didn’t hurt, but Russell shared a couple of other non-monetary reasons why signing on for The Madison was worth his time and attention. Speaking with TV Insider, he shared that he was already aware of Michelle Pfeiffer’s casting as he was reading through the scripts, so it was already an embedded bonus to reunite with his Tequila Sunrise co-star. But the value went even beyond his on-screen love interest. As he put it:

To be expected, the writing and the characters were two of the biggest influences that convinced him to join the project. He didn't appear to rattle off how many of Sheridan's projects he's seen, but I can only imagine he made himself familiar with as much as he thought was necessary to get a feel for The Madison's tone and what its creator is trying to impart with the story.

But even beyond that, Kurt Russell's involvement as family patriarch Preston Clyburn was inherently tied to timing, as the actor's schedule was so busy that he technically wasn't able to take part in the production for Season 1. As he told Entertainment Weekly, filming for Monarch's acclaimed Season 2 (currently streaming via Apple TV subscription) was already in play when the opportunity to join The Madison crossed his path. But not even Godzilla and King Kong combined could keep Sheridan from lassoing Russell in.

Rather than waiting until after the usual between-seasons break, Sheridan shifted the second season's filming forward to immediately follow the first's, which allowed the Escape from New York star to join the Montana-set series to film all of his scenes across both seasons as the rest of the cast and crew were plugging away on the second batch of episodes. As Russell put it:

One can only hope it'll be as much of a pleasure for viewers as it was for him and Michelle Pfeiffer to work on together. Not to mention the rest of the stacked cast, which includes Patrick J. Adams, Mattew Fox, Elle Chapman, Amiah MIller, Beau Garrett, Kevin Zegers, Will Arnett and more.

Taylor Sheridan has threaded a variety of shared themes, motifs and even cast members throughout the various dramas populating the Yellowstone universe, including the utilization of country music stars. (Landing Tim McGraw as key ancestor James Dutton, for the best example.) CBS’ Marshals won’t be an exception to that expectation, either, and I’m not just referring to star Luke Grimes having evolved his own singer-songwriter skills.

Grimes, who had the pleasure of hearing one of his songs on Yellowstone, will be joined by a famed “buddy” of his from the music world, CMA and ACM Award-winning artist Riley Green. And unlike some past musicians’ appearances on Yellowstone, Green isn’t being lined up to necessarily showcase his day-job talents. I mean, I wouldn’t discount the potential for his character to sing at some point, but it doesn’t sound like he’s playing a recording musician.

Rather, Green will appear in multiple episodes as former Navy SEAL named Garrett who pops up at the controversy-tinged Montana ranch out of the blue in the hopes of garnering some assistance for a task that may or may not be completely above board. According to Variety, Garrett aims to convince his friends Kayce and Cal (played by Logan Marshall-Green) to help him get rid of some “demons of his past.”

Sounds dangerous, and there’s no real indication of whether these demons are intangible concepts like alcoholism or a lack of motivation, or if we’re talking about shady figures form his past who need to be eliminated. I’m less invested in the idea that these are actual hellspawn demons, but it would be interesting for Marshals to turn into a supernatural shitshow right there in Season 1.

I wouldn’t put it past Kayce to help a fellow SEAL vet with one immoral task or another, considering he’s reached out for quite a few favors of his own over the years. That said, I do wonder how much Marshals will play up Kayce as a badass hero on the range, and how much we’ll see him doing the same kind of rule-bending and law-dodging that most Dutton family members excel at. He still has to be a good role model for Tate, right? Especially if Monica is actually dead and he’s going the single parent route.

Green shared the following statement about his casting:

Hailing from Jacksonville, Alabama, Riley Green was actually on TV before getting his music career going, as he was a contestant on CMT’s Redneck Island around 2012 ahead of releasing a number of EPs over the next five years. He hit it big in 2019 with the release of his first full album, Different ‘Round Here, and went on to win the ACM for New Male Artist of the Year. He’s released two albums since — Ain’t My Last Rodeo and Don’t Mind If I Do — and shared huge award wins with Ella Langley in 2025 for their smash single and video “You Look Like You Love Me.”

Just to namecheck a few of the musicans beyond Tim McGraw who've popped up in Taylor Sheridan shows, we have Faith Hill, Ryan Bingham, Lainey Wilson, Shane Smith & The Saints, Zach Bryan, Whiskey Myers and more. Kevin Costner and Landman star Billy Bob Thornton also have their own bands.

As someone who has spent a lot of time thinking about the Dutton family tree and watching Taylor Sheridan shows with my Paramount+ subscription, I often wonder how all these shows could crossover. Obviously, it’s unlikely for programs like Yellowstone and Landman to do that. However, it’s fun to think about, and after hearing Michelle Randolph’s idea for how it could happen, I need it to.

Now that Landman’s second season has ended on the 2026 TV schedule, and considering that we know Season 3 is coming, I’m curious about who will be in it. I doubt any Yellowstone characters would appear; however, it’s hard not to fantasize about the possibility, especially after hearing the idea Randolph has for a crossover:

Michelle Randolph, who plays Ainsley Norris in Landman, shared this idea with The Movie Podcast, and I love it so much. Seeing Beth Dutton in this world of oil and high drama would be so entertaining, and I’d personally love to see her go toe-to-toe with Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy.

However, I’d also love to watch her face off (or possibly work with) Kayla Wallace’s lawyer, Rebecca. They’re both outspoken and tough as nails, and it makes sense to me to pair them together. To that point, Wallace shared her take on Randolph’s crossover dream involving Kelly Reilly, saying:

I also fully support this idea, and I’d really like to see it happen.

While we’re on things I’d like to see happen, the co-creator of Landman told me he’d love to get Tim McGraw and Faith Hill into his show too, seeing as their 1883 co-star Sam Elliott joined the Billy Bob Thornton-led drama in Season 2. So, there’s a lot of potential for Yellowstone crossover to continue as this oil drama continues, whether it be with actors or the characters they played, and I desperately need it.

I don’t think it’s totally impossible either. As I said, Sam Elliott came over to play Tommy’s dad TL in Landman after his run on 1883. Plus, Michelle Randolph, herself, has two roles in the Sheridan-verse as she plays Ainsley on Landman and Elizabeth on the other Yellowstone prequel, 1923. So, I don’t think it’s far-fetched for another A-lister from one of Taylor Sheridan’s shows to pop up in oil drama.

However, I can’t shake this Beth Dutton dream. She really would fit right into the fast-talking and abrasive world of Landman. Plus, Kelly Reilly is a force to be reckoned with as an actor, and to witness her performing alongside that cast would be iconic.

I do fear it’s unlikely, though. At the moment, she’s working on the Rip and Beth spinoff, which will see her and Cole Hauser return to their Yellowstone characters in a new series. Meanwhile, Landman Season 3 is also in the works. However, never say never. Dreams come true sometimes, and maybe someday we could see Beth Dutton or Kelly Reilly as another character in the world of the Norris family.

The sun has set on Landman Season 2, and in a lot of ways, it was an ending to celebrate. Tommy told his team about their new oil company, and while he didn’t tell them everything about how he got it, I’d say it was an overall positive. However, while they were all happy about that, Billy Bob Thornton’s character had a line in this final episode to air on the 2026 TV schedule that really scared me.

The Line In Landman’s Season 2 Finale That Scared Me

In the penultimate scene of the season, Tommy tells Cooper, Nate, Rebecca, Dale, TL, Boss, Ariana and some crew members about CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. It’s a celebratory moment, as they all learn about the deal Tommy made with Andy Garcia’s character, Galliano (though he didn’t specify that that’s who he made said deal with during this meeting).

Afterward, Tommy meets up with Angela, and they share a loving moment. However, during it, Billy Bob Thornton’s character also said:

He goes on to say that maybe this will be in regard to himself, noting that he could get cancer or lose his memory. Tommy also says that Angela could go too in a “car wreck or whatever.”

He then ends his little monologue by stating that today is not the day that happens. And that’s all fine and dandy. However, Season 3 of Landman is coming, and between this line and the wolf Tommy sees in the final seconds of the episode, I feel like it’s not unreasonable to be scared that “tragedy” could “dominate” what we see next.

The Theories I’ve Developed That Make This Line So Scary

Amid all this celebration, they just had to throw this ominous undertone of death in, and now I’m scared. Obviously, not everything was tied up with a nice bow at the end of Season 2, and Tommy still has a lot to deal with, but all in all, they were in a good place.

However, he knows things can’t stay that way, and he’s aware that something bad is coming. Personally, I think that means death is around the corner, and I have a few guesses about who.

Taking Tommy as literally as possible, he implied that it could be him who goes. That’s maybe true, I mean, Galliano did say something bad would happen if this deal goes south. Plus, working in oil is dangerous. Or, who knows, maybe he’ll come down with a health issue, as he explained in the episode. It’s all possible, however, I think something more unexpected is more likely.

Maybe that means it’ll be Angela or Ainsley. That’d certainly be tragic if one of them died unexpectedly, and it’d no doubt “dominate” Tommy and his family’s days.

The same is true for T.L. Sam Elliott’s character just got back to his family. To see him die would be a tragedy. However, he’s old, and, again, anything can happen.

Overall, this line terrifies me because it makes me think about all the bad things that could happen to the Norris family. They’ve already been through a lot, and dealing with more tragedy would be so tough. However, that’s also what makes great TV.

So, to see what comes of this scary line Tommy said, make sure you keep watching Landman when it returns for Season 3.

Taylor Sheridan fans have largely been kept in the dark regarding new and expansive details for his latest new western-tinged drama, but Paramount+ has finally unveiled the first look at the star-studded Yellowstone spinoff The Madison. So we finally know what to expect visually from its co-starring Hollywood icons Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, as well as other regulars portrayed by Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox, Rebecca Spence and more. Plus, we finally know when it’ll hit the 2026 TV premiere schedule.

The Madison will be available to stream via Paramount+ subscription starting on March 14, which is a Saturday, bizarrely enough. (It’s unclear whether episodes will drop early in the day, or if this is more of a late-night/early-Sunday release.) So drum up a New York state of mind, at least initially, for the teaser below, which also reveals an unexpected casting reveal.

While the teaser doesn't exactly go hard on delivering story points, we do know from one of the earliest plot reports that Pfeiffer's Stacy Clayburn and her family move across the country to Montana after her husband and brother-in-law are killed in a plane crash. Certainly that could have changed on the way to production, since the teaser above doesn't go hard on tragic emotions, but considering Kurt Russell barely gets any time to shine (and neither does co-star Matthew Fox), I'm going to just assume that character pair won't survive the first episode. Maybe if those plane shots weren't in the teaser, I'd be more optimistic.

Despite still not knowing very much about any of these characters, the teaser does draw a pretty clear line of comparison between Pfeiffer's Stacy and Kelly Reilly's fan-favorite shitkicking protagonist Beth Dutton. They both have masculine AF hubbies, they both appear ready to flip a bitch at the first sign of trouble, and they also both have excellent taste in bathtub choices.

Beth's horse-trough bath early in Yellowstone's first season put that character on the map for her take-no-bullshit persona. So it makes all the sense in the world that The Madison's first look already shows Stacy in her own fancy-looking tub. Maybe this is more of a Taylor Sheridan thing, though, since 1883 also featured that bathtub scene between Tim McGraw and Faith Hill; I guess he just doesn't like standard fiberglass tubs.

Even though Beth didn't lose her husband during Yellowstone's run, she did suffer from grief and depression after Kevin Costner's John Dutton was killed off at the start of Season 5. Though she had others to direct her anger at, while Stacy may not have that kind of outlet.

Also, speaking of differences, Stacy is apparently seeing a therapist, as portrayed by newly revealed cast member Will Arnett. Beth's form of therapy was more shaped like whiskey and cigarettes, so I'm wondering how open Michelle Pfeiffer's character will get in that setting. Also wondering how much we'll see Arnett's character after Stacy moves the family out to Montana.

March will be a big month for Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone follow-ups. Before The Madison hits streaming, Luke Grimes and Breckin Merrill are reprising their roles of Kayce and Tate Dutton for CBS’ more action-oriented drama Marshals, which may or may not be killing off Monica Dutton. And both of those come before Kelly Reilly’s own return as Beth Dutton alongside Cole Hauser for the spinoff commonly referred to as Dutton Ranch. (Yellowstone vet Ian Bohen was recently cast for Season 2 of Lioness, but that hopefully doesn’t exclude his ranch hand Ryan from spinoff returns.)

The Madison will make its long-awaited debut on Paramount+ starting Saturday, March 14.

The next chapter of the Dutton family saga will play out during the 2026 TV schedule when Luke Grimes’ Kayce heads up his own spinoff (possibly without Monica) in CBS’ Y: Marshals, with Rip and Beth’s spinoff also coming down the pipeline at some point. One previously announced spinoff we haven’t heard much about since the initial announcement in Nov. 2024, however, is the third prequel 1944.

Of course, the lack of details really just means that anything can feasibly happen with it at this point, so until proven otherwise, fans like me can assume with hope that Brendan Sklenar’s surviving ancestor Spencer Dutton will be one of the leads keeping the ranch afloat during whatever turmoil shakes things up in 1944. The actor stopped by NBC’s TODAY to promote his new movie The Housemaid, and was asked if fans can expect to see his return, which sparked a mirthful answer:

At a time where part of Hollywood is transfixed on digital de-aging, both for and against, it's almost quaint to think about Sklenar aging upwards through the use of practical hair and makeup wizardry. It does sincerely sound like a splendid idea, though. (Check out what we got from the cast about potentially jumping to the future for 1944.)

Sklenar is quickly becoming one of the go-to leading men, spinning his 1923 success into roles opposite Blake Lively in 2024's It Ends with Us, and in a trio of 2025 movies: the tech thriller Drop, the Packers-centric drama Green and Gold, and Paul Feig's upcoming book-to-screen adaptation for The Housemaid.

Keeping the Yellowstone connections going, though, is another one of Sklenar's upcoming projects, the action-thriller F.A.S.T., which was written by Taylor Sheridan and co-stars Jason Clarke and Sam Claflin. Sklenar couldn't divulge any narrative details about it, but did say fans can expect a stunt-heavy feature. In his words:

I'm already sold, and I'm doubly sold on that seemingly being the only major project announced for the actor's upcoming slate. Which would then seemingly leave him open for more Spencer Dutton performances, right?

The F.A.S.T. script landing at Warner Bros. and not Paramount is reportedly tied into Sheridan's shifting to NBCUniversal for his next development deal. At this point, Paramount reportedly has control of whatever projects Sheridan conceived of there, presumably including 1944. So is the reason we haven't heard anything about it because he's no longer interested in expanding that story with that studio?

The only person who can answer that at this point is Taylor Sheridan, and he doesn't seem to be spreading the word at the moment. So hopefully by the time The Housemaid is out and is Sklenar is being interviewed about all the millions it made, he'll have a more conclusive update about his Dutton character's future.

I remember watching 1883 for the first time and being absolutely gobsmacked by Sam Elliott’s performance. In it, he plays Civil War veteran and caravan leader Shea, and his tragic and heroic tale sees him lead a group of people west as they try to find new homes. It was a remarkable show, and a stellar performance from Elliott. So, you can imagine how incredible it was to hear the actor talk about that experience and returning to Taylor Sheridan’s universe of shows for Landman.

Like Billy Bob Thornton, I was pumped about Sam Elliott joining Landman. He’s outstanding in 1883, and the idea of him pairing up with Thornton for this project on the 2025 TV schedule was extra exciting. So, during my interview with the two actors, I asked about the 1883 star joining Season 2. Here’s what Elliott told CinemaBlend about being on this drama after his time on the Yellowstone prequel:

I'd imagine that filming a show that does not require you to travel by horse and wagon at all times and takes place in the modern day is far easier. So, I get why Elliott was quick to note that Landman has been easier than 1883.

Meanwhile, “these guys” he’s referring to are the A-list cast members Taylor Sheridan and his team assembled for Landman. That includes Billy Bob Thornton, who leads the show as Tommy Norris, as well as Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Andy Garcia, Michelle Randolph and more.

However, the actor he spoke the most about working with was Thornton, which makes sense considering Elliott plays Tommy’s dad, TL, in the show. Along with them playing close characters on Landman, the two men’s history together played into this as well, as the A Star is Born actor told me:

It is pretty special! Both Elliott and Thornton were in 1993’s Tombstone, and while Elliott played a major role in 1883, Thornton had a small cameo in it. So, they’ve known each other for a long time, and they have worked together before, but Landman is different because of how close their characters are.

So, I understand why it’s so “special” to Elliott, and Thornton too, who told me he cried when he found out who was playing TL. Plus, after seeing Tommy and TL’s emotional reunion in Episode 2 of Landman’s second season, I’m very excited to see the actors share even more scenes as the season goes on. It seems like the father-son duo's relationship is fractured, and the upcoming episodes will deeply impact it as they come back together for the first time in what seems to be years.

Yellowstone fans will finally get to see Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton more in action mode than ever thanks to the new CBS spinoff Y: Marshals, which is confirmed to arrive during the 2026 TV schedule. The country singer is co-starring with quite a few new faces, as well as a handful of familiar ones. A pair of well-established characters do indeed appear in the latest trailer for the militaristic western drama, but I can't deny that the coolest draw in the video may very well be a motherfluffin' bear!l On the flipside, my biggest takeaway after watching is that we're almost definitely being set up for the death of Monica Dutton.

Check out the trailer below, and when you're nost blindly cheering for Kayce's badassery, see if you can spot each of the highlights we'll be discussing just below.

Okay, so let's kick things off with the biggest question that fans have had during the entire stretch that Y: Marshals was in production without any updates about Kayce's marital status: wassup with Monica?

Y: Marshals' Trailer May Have Just Convinced Me Monica Is Dead Now

To be sure, this idea is hardly a new one in the realm of Yellowstone spinoff theories, with Luke Grimes himself sparking a ton of death-infused speculation with comments about Kayce's time being freed up due to a big event. Of course, some theorized that she and Kayce would get divorced, while others also assumed that Tate would be dying with her. (I can see how the idea of raising Tate alone would be the antithesis of living free.)

Beyond the complete absence of actress Kelsey Asbille, whose time on Yellowstone was somewhat marred by claims about her ancestry, two other moments seem purposefully inserted into the trailer to tip a hat to Monica's fate. For one, we hear several snippets of Kayce's dialogue early on in the trailer that serve as like a character mission statement.

It's unclear if any audio was clipped out that indicated he also lost his spouse, or if perhaps Kayce thought of Monica more as his teammate. Either way, it's set up to make it sound like he's only experienced lost in the most recent past, without any acknowledgement of successfully selling off the ranch and getting a permanent home out of it.

By all means, everything said thus far could also imply that Monica and Kayce split up and got divorced. Only there's then this shot, in which the character's wedding band is on pretty prominent display.

Sure, there are some people who continue to wear their wedding rings even after relationships have ended, sometimes as a reminder, and sometimes as a way to avoid unwarranted attention from other singles. So we can't call this one definitively solved just yet, but we're close!

Y: Marshals Features A Big Ol' Angry Bear

I hope Kayce Dutton packed up a bunch of extra pic-a-nic baskets, because he and his squad are apparently going to have to deal with the threat of a wild bear. Will we get to see some kind of hyper-violent attack with bodies left in the bear's wake? Probably not, given this is a CBS show, but I really hope we get to see some kind of action-geared sequence with the animal.

For the record, I am aware that's a CGI beast and not an actual bear that the Y: Marshals team keeps around to traumatize crew members. But it looks awesome, and not at all like the kinds of awkward digital creations that sometimes pop up in network series that ran out of budget. Hope nobody gave that thing any cocaine, or even a small espresso.

Rainwater And Tate Dutton Also Pop Up

Gil Birmingham's tribal leader and Brecken Merrill's teen could almost be related with the similar ways they both look at Kayce during the trailer. Perhaps tellingly, neither one of them has any smiles to share. (The only OG cast member confirmed for the spinoff who didn't appear was Mo Brings Plenty.)

Thomas Rainwater's message to Kayce is one preaching non-violence, reminding Grimes' character that even though all Duttons are born with killer instincts, he's meant to be a protector instead of a killer. Which, if Monica IS dead, might come across as a giant face-smacking insult. Or maybe he's just talking about keeping Tate and the ranch protected.

Tate, meanwhile, doesn't get to say anything (which is probably for the best, given the character's mostly garbage dialogue), but the look on his face doesn't convey that he's gearing up to get a warm hug from his mom. There are plenty of other potential reasons for his dismay, but only one that lines up with the rest of this article.

Whatever the answer ends up being, I really hope CBS and the creative team don't wait until the show actually debuts to shed light on this, since I can't think of a clear advantage to continue keeping viewers in the dark for months on end. Of course, if the series premiere features Kelsey Asbille living and breathing and surviving beyond the end credits, it just might be the biggest TV twist of the year.

Spoilers below for anyone who hasn’t yet streamed Tulsa King’s Season 3 finale via Paramount+ subscription, so be warned!

Another season-length journey into Tulsa’s criminal underground has ended, giving Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi a little time to breathe and get comfortable with his girlfriend Margaret — because they’re using labels now — before the next big threat comes crawling out of the New York City woodwork. The squad’s efforts to make above-the-board profits were granted in the form of a federal liquor license granted by Kevin Pollack’s Musso, while most of the immediate threats in Dwight’s life were put to pasture.

All in all, it was a solid way to wrap Season 3, which started off strongly before spinning its wheels a bit in the middle. and I think it handily delivered on two of my biggest hopes for Tulsa King ahead of the currently in-production Season 4 and the impending spinoff set in New Orleans. That said, “Jesus Lizard” did screw the pooch when it came to closing out one character’s storyline, at least assuming that storyline is indeed concluded. Pour yourself a rocks glass of that Montague and read on!

NAILED IT: Setting Up Samuel L. Jackson's Hitman For NOLA King

Tulsa King followed in the footsteps of many a traditional broadcast drama by introducing a brand new character destined to go off and star in an impending spinoff. To be sure, these final two episodes technically didn't serve as a backdoor pilot, as they were both firmly invested in wrapping up everything happening in Tulsa, but the ninth episode brought in the always excellent Samuel L. Jackson as the highly connected hitman already set to head up NOLA King, one Mr. Russell Lee Washington Jr.

Realistically, the crew could have just left the camera rolling on Jackson without giving him any direction, and I still likely would have come out of his introduction pleased as punch. But Tulsa King's writers brought Lee into Dwight's life in a way that immediately set up high stakes — he's on Quiet Ray's to-be-killed shitlist for refusing the task of taking Dwight out — and gave viewers a window into his world.

Namely, Lee is tired of being a hired hand, and wants to basically duplicate the success that Dwight has had, only in his stomping grounds of New Orleans. As a Louisiana native myself, I was ready for Jackson's accent to border on grating, but I think he handles it well enough, and I can buy into the idea that he lost some of it during his years living away from the city. All in all, I'm 100% more excited for NOLA King than I was before Lee was introduced, and I can't wait to see him mixing it up with the rest of that cast.

NAILED IT: Killing Off Jeremiah Dunmire In An Over-The-Top Brutal Way

Robert Patrick rules, without question, and he delivered as expected throughout Season 3 as Dwight's booze-minded antagonist Jeremiah Dunmire. But for as much as I like watching Patrick's work, Jeremiah was a hateful, spiteful and godawful human being without a speck of levity to lean into, and only self-serving motivations to guide him. Rarely have I wanted more to see a drama's season-long villain get taken out in the episode after they first appeared.

Understandably, Jeremiah continued breathing for episode after episode, making everyone's life worse around him as Dwight found different ways to invade and infect the Dunmires' illegal monopoly on bourbon distribution. It'd be one thing if Jeremiah was only mean to his enemies, but the person he arguably treated worse than anyone else was his own son Cole. Though I guess trying to calm Joanna by directly saying, "I don't hit women," didn't exude tranquility.

So when the finale started, I found myself wishing for Dwight to take Jeremiah out in the most pettily ruthless way imaginable: dragging him behind a car down a gravel road with his legs spread wide, or by having him lay down in a pit full of vipers. Or just like. throwing him into a woodchipper, feet first. But hey, Dwight managed to top each of those ideas by beating the shit out of Jeremiah and then essentially burning him alive at the stake. Good riddance.

MISSED THE BOAT: Giving Cole The Chance To Take His Own Father Out (Or To At Least Watch Dwight Do It)

For all that I cheered when Jeremiah Dunmire joined the flaming choir invisible, I found myself highly disappointed that Tulsa King's creative team didn't allow for the easiest example of poetic justice possible: allowing Cole to dish out some painful vengeance on his own to the man who made his life hell for decades on end. I mean seriously, after Jeremiah threateningly held that axe up to Cole's face in the penultimate ep?

To be sure, I fucking hate Cole Dunmire, and I almost want to hate Beau Knapp by extension for delivering all of the character's shitty expressions and all the insecurity on display in the way he aims to intimidate others by using his physicality. He's the personification of the phrase "Hurt people hurt people," though, and I guess I wasn't hating him so much as what Jeremiah made of him.

Thus, I desperately wanted Cole to be the one to completely ruin his dear old dad. Definite props to him for recognizing that the last straw exists, and for going to Dwight with all of the relevant info needed to save Joanna and take Jeremiah down. But we needed to see the big moment where Cole makes it clear that it was Jeremiah's own flesh and blood that caused his downfall, presumably then followed by Cole shoving a live grenade in his dad's mouth. Again, I definitely enjoying seeing Dwight light up the night with Jeremiah's beaten body, but Cole deserved to be the one to have sparked that flame.

Is this the last time we'll see Cole in Tulsa King? Does the death of his pops mean that he's in contention to either take over the family business, or will he jump ship and attempt to slot himself within Dwight's ranks? Or hell, might he even decide to join Lee on a trip down South? Hopefully we'll get some answers when the first Season 4 updates start dropping.

Spoilers for Season 2, Episode 2 of Landman are ahead! Read with caution, and watch the show with a Paramount+ subscription.

After the audience met Sam Elliott’s TL in the Season 2 premiere of Landman, he was reunited with his son, Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy, and his grandson, Jacob Lofland’s Cooper, in Episode 2. It happened during a very moving scene, too, and the story behind filming it, which Thornton told me, makes it even more emotional.

When I watched the second episode of Landman that aired on the 2025 TV schedule, I knew I had to ask Thornton, Elliott and Lofland about filming it. It was a very emotional reunion for the father-son duo, as TL waxed poetic about the tragic reason why sunsets are so beautiful while sitting in a wheelchair. The Sling Blade actor told me that this scene felt really real as they were filming it, too, which almost made him forget that they were making a TV show. He explained during an interview for CinemaBlend:

Being in the moment with Sam Elliott has to be so special, and it’s clear that it was to Billy Bob Thornton. He explained to me that when they filmed this scene, both he and Lofland “listened” to what the TL actor was saying, and everyone had “a lot of room to breathe” as they created this candid moment.

He then told me that the culmination of all that “made it so heavy” for them. It gets even heavier, though, as the actor recalled how he reacted to seeing his on-screen dad in costume and in his wheelchair for the first time:

As a fan of Sam Elliott, I’m used to seeing him play epic and strong men, like Shae in 1883. However, in Landman, TL is down on his luck, he’s in a home, he’s just lost his wife, and he says that all he’s got left is “wondering.” In short, he’s miserable, and seeing Tommy and Cooper realize that is devastating.

Overall, it’s a moving scene that brings three generations of the Norris family together, and it brutally introduces us to how the oil industry has impacted all of them. As TL says, a sunset is beautiful because of what makes living in Texas so unbearable, which is the lack of water and dust, and that parallels the fact that while oil has given this family a lot, it’s also ruined them in a lot of ways.

I found this scene to be a sucker punch to the gut as we were brutally introduced to more of the family and their history. It was also emotional and incredible to watch because it featured so many legends. When I asked Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper, about filming this sequence with Elliott and Thornton, he highlighted that point too, explaining:

There have been many A-listers in Taylor Sheridan’s shows, but pairing Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott together has been exciting on a new level. This scene confirmed why they’re a great duo, and it made me very excited to see how Tommy, TL and Cooper’s relationships evolve as Season 2 goes on and they all grapple with the death of TL’s wife.

The second Sam Elliott was cast in Landman, I was elated. The actor, who had previously starred in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel 1883, is such a legend, and I was hoping he’d be in another Paramount+ show from the super producer. So, considering that and as Season 2 of Landman gets going on the 2025 TV schedule, I decided to ask the drama’s co-creator which actors from the Sheridan-verse he’d like to cast next. He responded with an idea that needs to become a reality.

Landman, like all of Sheridan’s shows, features an A-list cast that is led by Billy Bob Thornton. He’s supported by Demi Moore (who has a bigger role in Season 2), Ali Larter, Andy Garcia and many more. However, the ensemble also features Sheridan-verse vets, like 1883’s Sam Elliott and Michelle Randolph, who was in 1923. So, when I spoke with the project’s co-creator, Christian Wallace, I asked about who from another one of Sheridan’s shows would be a good addition to his ensemble. In response, he said:

Yes, yes, 1,000 times yes! This needs to happen. The connections are just too good to pass up. As Wallace noted, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are remarkable in 1883 as James and Margaret Dutton (which you can stream with a Paramount+ subscription), and they led that show with Sam Elliott, who played Shea Brennan. So, that reunion would be great. On top of that, it’d be even better because Billy Bob Thornton also had a small cameo in the Yellowstone prequel, so the Dutton actors doing the same thing in Landman would be very full circle.

Plus, with 1883 not getting a second season, this would serve as a great way to get the cast back together in a new (and modern) way.

However, it wouldn’t just be an 1883 reunion on Landman. It’d also be a Friday Night Lights reunion, as Wallace pointed out. In the 2004 movie, Billy Bob Thornton played Coach Gary Gaines, while McGraw portrayed Charles Billingsley. So, to get them back together, and to do it in Texas, no less, would be pretty amazing.

Along with this idea being a wonderful opportunity for a reunion, it’s also simply a fantastic proposal without the connections. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are great actors – as proven by 1883 – and I’d love to see them back on my screen. They fit perfectly into that Western, and I think they’d also be a great match for Landman.

While I have no idea who they’d realistically play, I could picture them playing a couple who have a history with the Norris family, and it’d be fun to watch them butt heads. Along with work on-screen, it’d also be pretty cool if Tim McGraw and Faith Hill made music for the show too, considering it’s set in the modern day and they’re both renowned country singers.

All around, this feels like a perfect idea, and I really hope it happens someday. However, for now, you can watch the newest episodes of Landman, which already features a stacked cast, every Sunday on Paramount+.

Season 2 of Landman started with the death of Tommy’s mom, and it seems like it’s bound to bring Billy Bob Thornton’s character back together with his father, TL, who is played by Sam Elliott. Now, we already knew Thornton was very excited to have Elliott in Season 2. However, I wanted to know how he reacted when he found out the 1883 actor would be playing his father, so I asked him.

When I posed the question to Thornton, who was sitting right next to Elliott, he didn’t hesitate to say that the casting was “perfect.” Then, he dove into how he reacted when he got the call that the A-lister was joining another Taylor Sheridan show, explaining:

Before saying this, Thornton had told me that he didn’t know at all that Elliott was going to play his father. In fact, he didn’t even know the character would be part of the story at first. However, when he found out about it and who would be taking on the role of TL, he couldn’t help but get emotional.

While he calls it “embarrassing,” I think it’s incredibly sweet and important. The two were both in one of the great Westerns, Tombstone, and Thornton had a small cameo in 1883, which Elliott played a major role in. However, Landman will give them a chance to play father and son and get close on screen in a way we haven’t seen before.

At this point in Landman’s run on the 2025 TV schedule, Tommy and TL have not interacted. However, Season 2’s premiere revealed that Tommy’s mom and TL’s wife had died. So, it stands to reason that the loss will bring the two back together. I, for one, cannot wait to see how they interact and how TL fits into the Norris family. I am also so excited to watch this great cast interact with the legend, Sam Elliott.

Clearly, it meant a lot to the Friday Night Lights actor that the A Star is Born actor had joined their cast as Tommy’s dad. Now, I’m looking forward to seeing how their dynamic evolves on screen, as their characters reunite in the wake of a major loss. Clearly, the two actors mean a lot to each other in real life, so it will be exciting to see how that translates on Landman.

The prices of subscriptions to streaming services seem to be constantly increasing across the board in recent years, and anybody with a Paramount+ subscription is facing a price increase for the upcoming 2026 TV schedule. The news comes just weeks after confirmation that Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame will leave the streamer after his current deal expires, and a big question already is how the changes will affect subscriber totals in the new year.

Paramount+ Is Getting Pricier

Following the Skydance merger from earlier this year, Variety reports that Paramount Skydance is pursuing more content on the streaming service, which in turn will affect how much fans will have to shell out for that content. In the wake of Q3 2025 results that reported losses in TV ad sales and TV distribution fees, the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential plan will increase by $1 for a monthly cost of $8.99, while the ad-free Paramount+ Premium plan will jump up by $1 to $13.99/month in January 2026.

The changes won't remove the annual subscription options, but those prices will increase as well. The 2026 annual subscription will be $89.99/year for the Essential ad-supported plan and $139.99/year for the Premium ad-free plan. Those are sizable jumps from $59.99 and $119.99, respectively, but still a better deal than paying monthly for any consumers who are confident that they'll want a full year of programming. The monthly breakdown for the Premium annual option is $7.50/per month, while the monthly breakdown for the Essential annual option is $11.67/month.

Among the biggest draws to Paramount+ have been the various shows created and produced by Taylor Sheridan, although South Park was reportedly the top subscription-acquisition driver for the streamer in Q3, and the $7.7 billion deal with UFC for exclusive rights could be a factor in attracting new streamers in 2026. That may be necessary if Sheridan's magic touch won't be around for scripted dramas in the not-too-distant future.

Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ Projects

While Taylor Sheridan may still be best known for creating a smash hit on cable with Yellowstone, he has a strong foothold on Paramount+ at this point in the 2025 TV schedule. He expanded the Yellowstone universe with two streaming spinoffs so far: 1923 and 1883. (The Y: Marshals series is heading to CBS but will presumably then stream episodes on Paramount+ like other CBS originals.)

Outside of the Yellowstone world, Sheridan's streaming projects include Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Lioness, and Landman. With the exception of Bass Reeves, all of the non-Dutton-related series have been successful enough to extend beyond a first season.

All of this is to say that Taylor Sheridan has been a major asset to Paramount+, credited as the creator of each of those listed shows except for Bass Reeves and an executive producer on all of them. His exit from the streamer was reported by Deadline in late October, with his current deal with Paramount expiring in 2028. Sheridan signed a new deal for film and television that takes him to NBCUniversal, with new projects in 2029 and beyond presumably becoming available with a Peacock subscription rather than Paramount+. The new deal takes effect on January 1, 2029.

So, if Sheridan's exit affects subscribers, that pain for Paramount Skydance may not be felt for another few years. In another shocking move, the company recruited The Duffer Brothers to leave their longtime home at Netflix (where they created Stranger Things) and close a Paramount deal that's encompass streaming, TV, and film. Their deal with Netflix expires in Netflix 2026. The company is losing Sheridan, but gaining Matt and Ross Duffer.

Still, the bigger factor that could lead to an exodus of subscribers in 2026 is likely the price hike. An extra $1 per month might not sound like much, but can certainly add up, and Paramount+ isn't the only streamer to raise prices in recent months. Disney+ increased subscription costs back in September. For now, you can find plenty of Taylor Sheridan projects at your usual price streaming on Paramount+.

The list of famous actors Taylor Sheridan has hired for his shows is long and illustrious, and it includes Demi Moore. However, in Season 1 of Landman, her character, Cami, was barely seen. That’s all about to change, though, because as Season 2 of the oil drama hits the 2025 TV schedule, The Substance star spoke to me about how her character won’t be a “Where’s Wlado” in the upcoming episodes.

After Cami was underused in Landman’s first season, fans made it clear that they wanted more of Demi Moore in this Billy Bob Thornton-led drama. Well, it turns out that was always part of the plan. During an interview for CinemaBlend, I asked the actress what she was told about her character’s arc during her first meeting with Taylor Sheridan. In response, she explained that she knew Cami wouldn’t be in much of Season 1 but would make a splash in Season 2. She told me:

I figured this would be the case. I had assumed they wouldn’t have hired Demi Moore to play Cami if there wasn’t a bigger story planned for her. However, seeing very little of her in Season 1 as she was earning a lot of praise for her Oscar-nominated role in The Substance emphasized the question about why Cami wasn’t a bigger player in Landman, considering the stature of the actress playing her.

It sounds like the plan for her character will really kick into high gear, though, during Season 2. Following the death of Jon Hamm’s character, Monty, Cami is set to play a bigger role in M*Tex, and I’m excited to see her interact more with Tommy Norris, Billy Bob Thornton’s character. Moore told me that her character will be doing that too, as she continued to recall that first conversation she had with Landman’s co-creator:

In Season 2, we’ll get to see Tommy and Cami pick up the pieces that were left after Monty’s death. As the trailers show us, the fallout will be rough as they fight for the “success” Moore’s character is after. It also feels like there’s trouble brewing between Cami and Tommy, as they are clearly working to figure out who has the most power in this situation.

So, yeah, I’d say Demi Moore has a much larger role to play in Season 2 of Landman, and I’m very excited that she won’t be like a “Where’s Waldo” this season. Based on these comments and what we’ve seen so far, it seems like she’ll be front and center, which I’m sure will make fans happy.

It’s been almost a year since the final episodes of Yellowstone aired, and now we’re waiting to see the Duttons played by Luke Grimes and Kelly Reilly return in upcoming spinoffs. However, considering Jamie Dutton’s fate, Wes Bentley won’t be returning to this universe (as far as we know). He has booked his first job since the modern Western came to a close, though, and he’s jumping from the world of Taylor Sheridan to the world of fellow mega-producer Ryan Murphy.

While there are many upcoming Yellowstone shows in the works, including spinoffs about Kayce and Beth, Jamie – here’s your spoiler warning if you aren’t caught up – can’t really get one of those, because he died. So, while it's possible he could come back in a flashback or something, I’m not expecting Wes Bentley to show up in a Taylor Sheridan show anytime soon. Thankfully, though, he will be back on our screens at some point, because his next project will be with another TV giant.

Since Yellowstone’s series finale, Wes Bentley hasn’t released anything; however, Variety reported that his next project will be the FX series The Shards.

This new project is a book-to-screen adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name. The story follows a group of teens in 1980s Los Angeles during a time when a serial killer is on the loose and targeting young people. It sounds like a twisty, mind-boggling and thrilling ride, as the book’s synopsis reads in part:

It’s already been announced that this show will also star Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, who will play Bret, Homer Gere (Robert), Hayes Warner (Debbie) and Graham Campbell (Thom). According to sources who spoke to the outlet, Bentley will play Terry. He’s the father of Debbie, who, as previously mentioned, will be played by Hayes Warner.

All around, this sounds like a wild ride, and I’m excited to see the role Bentley plays in it. That’s partly because I loved his performance as the tortured brother Jamie in Yellowstone (which you can stream with a Peacock subscription), and also because he has quite the history with Ryan Murphy.

Before starring in Yellowstone, the show that he’s arguably best known for now, Wes Bentley appeared in three seasons of American Horror Story, which you can stream with a Hulu subscription. He was in three episodes of Season 4, which was Freak Show, and then he was in all 12 episodes of Season 5, Hotel, and all ten episodes of Season 6, Roanoke. So, this actor is not unfamiliar with Ryan Murphy and his work.

However, on The Shards, Murphy will serve as an executive producer, and Max Winkler will direct and executive produce. On AHS, the super-producer also wrote and directed a few episodes, while also serving as the co-creator, showrunner and EP.

Now, I really can’t wait to see The Shards. As a Yellowstone fan, I’m looking forward to seeing what Wes Bentley does next, and the fact that this project comes from a book written by the same man who wrote American Psycho and Less Than Zero makes me even more thrilled.

At the moment, sadly, this new FX show does not have a premiere date. However, we’ll keep you updated as we learn more, and in the meantime, you can always go back and rewatch Yellowstone as well as Wes Bentley’s stint on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story.

2025 may go down in entertainment history as the year that broke the camel’s back, where in this case, the camel is Yellowstone-verse creator Taylor Sheridan’s longtime partnership with Paramount. It looks as if the high-profile writer/director/actor is angling to pack up and ship out once his highly lucrative current deal with the studio expires. What's more, he's already got NBCU in his crosshairs.

But when will that happen, and has Sheridan been planning for this eventual exit even while developing the trio of upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs? Let’s discuss.

Is Taylor Sheridan Actually Exiting Paramount, And When Would It Happen?

Nothing official has been announced from any of the parties involved, but many unofficial signs do point to "Yes" where this job changeover is concerned. According to Puck, Taylor Sheridan's team put the word out to David Ellison and other Paramount execs less than two weeks ago, and it sounds as if the alleged reasoning for the jump to NBCU is multi-fold, and doesn't just come down to one factor.

First, Sheridan has separate film and TV deals currently going at Paramount. His movie agreement wraps up in March, at which point he's allegedly already locked in for an eight-year movie deal for NBC Universal. The TV side of it is a little trickier, as that was for a longer contractual term, and it doesn't expire until 2028. (David Glasser's production company 101 Studios will also make the move to continue producing Sheridan's output.)

As far as why the creative is looking to change studios and platforms, the answer reportedly has little to do with money or anything financial. Rather, Sheridan has reportedly bumped against Paramount's newest regime of execs, which essentially replaced the squad of execs he'd worked with for the past five years, particularly Chris McCarthy and Keyes Hill-Edgar.

As well, Paramount's new streaming boss Cindy Holland has reportedly balked at some of the budgets given to the Hell or High Water screenwriter's shows, despite the company recently paying exorbitant sums for deals with South Park's co-creators, Stranger Things' co-creators and the UFC (to name but a few). Paramount+ has long touted Sheridan's various dramas as being top performers, which one might suspect would counterbalance the higher costs, but perhaps that's not the case.

A third alleged factor involves a script that Sheridan penned during the period before he signed on with Paramount, for a movie called F.A.S.T. Warner Bros. stepped up to secure the rights to it, and Parmount's head honcho David Ellison attempted to negotiate certain distribution rights for Paramount, which is said to have rankled the Yellowstone co-creator.

Beyond that, even, Cindy Holland tapped Lioness star Nicole Kidman for a new series, Discretion, but without giving a heads up to Taylor Sheridan that one of his stars would now have other responsibilities within the same studio, which possibly played into Lioness’ late-stage Season 3 renewal, which only happened a year or so after Season 2 concluded.

How Long Has Taylor Sheridan Been Planning His Exit Behind The Scenes?

While Sheridan's aim to flip studios reportedly only became official when his lawyers reached out, one has to wonder if the multi-hyphenate has quietly been setting himself up for an eventual big exit. That's obviously the kind of detail that'd be hard to ascertain without the creator himself pointing it out, but there are some clues to be gleaned.

Yellowstone earned Sheridan a reputation for working solo in the writers room, and it followed him from one project to the next as he built up his current array of Paramount+ dramas. And while he understandably had to share responsibilities on certain projects, he seemed determined to keep control over everything involving the Dutton family, thus serving as showrunner for both prequel spinoffs 1883 and 1923.

My own suspicions rose up after it became clear that Sheridan wasn't handling day-to-day duties on Rip and Beth’s spinoff, nor seemingly any of the other Yellowstone follow-ups. Check out this showrunner breakdown:

This certainly isn't meant to imply that Taylor Sheridan has free time to add additional showrunner duties to his daily plate. The dude is working hard on turning Texas into the new Hollywood, and while it seemed like those efforts would be dedicated entirely to Paramount+ projects, that no longer looks to be the case.

How long was the writing on the wall for Sheridan and Paramount's eventual split? It's unclear at this point, But if this BTS drama is anything like what went down with Kevin Costner, we'll almost definitely hear about it in the months to come. Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King are currently streaming new episodes every Sunday on Paramount+.

Keith Urban and Blake Shelton have hit The Road together to host a new singing competition produced by Taylor Sheridan. Just weeks before the series premiered this month on the 2025 TV schedule, however, news broke that Urban’s 19-year marriage to Nicole Kidman was ending. Knowing that the show was filmed in those final months might give some context to some of “The Fighter” singer’s comments — and it certainly made his and Shelton’s jokes about pickup lines interesting.

In Episode 2 of The Road, which can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription, the musicians visited Dallas, Texas, for two nights in front of a live audience. One contestant, Jenny Tolman, took the stage asking who was there with someone they loved and proceeded to ask them to put their arms around each other. Urban and Shelton dutifully gave each other a big hug before Urban followed the singer’s instructions by telling Shelton:

While The Road hosts were all smiles during the interaction, it’s hard not to be a little sad at the thought that Keith Urban's tank with Nicole Kidman had run out of gas after 20 years. At least he got a good hug out of it.

Another moment later in the show also unwittingly referenced Urban’s soon-to-be-single-again life. The former coach of The Voice and the former American Idol judge had this exchange:

• Blake Shelton: You think it’s a good pickup line? ‘Hey, cowboy, what’s your name?’
• Keith Urban: Well, not from you.

They got a good laugh out of that one, but the reality is that Keith Urban’s now in a place to judge just how effective that line can be.

We’re only two episodes into the CBS competition, and these are not the only instances that raised eyebrows amongst fans amid the four-time Grammy winner’s divorce. In the season premiere, Urban warned the artists of the difficulty of life on the road, saying:

He then took the stage in Fort Worth, Texas, to sing “Straight Line,” a song about escaping a “soul-sucking” life that he apparently wrote about a year before his split from Nicole Kidman, leaving us to wonder what the “dark cloud” was that his song’s narrator was trying to get out from under.

A lot of country music deals with heartbreak and vulnerability, and as Keith Urban proves he’s a force to be reckoned with as a mentor for the budding artists on The Road, I wouldn’t be surprised if he dropped other pearls of wisdom and emotion that signals other things going on in his personal life.

CBS is getting into the music competition game this fall in the 2025 TV schedule with The Road, which will be unlike any other competition show on the airwaves nowadays. The new series follows twelve potential future country stars as they perform as the opening acts for Keith Urban on his tour across the country.

They're competing for a grand prize, with country music's Gretchen Wilson as Tour Manager, The Voice's Blake Shelton on board, and Yellowstone's Taylor Sheridan as executive producer as well as Keith Urban. Wilson spoke with CinemaBlend about her role as Tour Manager and collaborating with an EP best known for his hit scripted dramas.

The grand prize for the winner of The Road is surely going to be motivating for the twelve contestants: a cash prize of $250,000 and a recording contract, on top of the invaluable experience of performing on stage for a Keith Urban crowd with proven country talent like Blake Shelton and Gretchen Wilson on hand.

But what about Taylor Sheridan, who has been so successful with scripted projects like Special Ops: Lioness, Tulsa King, and of course Yellowstone and its various spinoffs? When I chatted with Gretchen Wilson, the Grammy-winner clarified the format of the show:

Taylor Sheridan may have had audiences on the edges of their seats over the years for his scripted TV shows, but there were no screenplays behind the action during the production of The Road. Whoever wins and whatever happens once the show kicks off on October 19, it was caught on camera rather than written out ahead of time. Wilson went on to share what's "unique" about working with Sheridan, and it has nothing to do with any of his Dutton dramas:

Gretchen Wilson also shared that she basically joined the show after getting a call that Blake Shelton said she'd "be a good fit for this role that's opened up" on The Road, and it was "kind of that simple," which meant her first collaboration with Taylor Sheridan. She went on:

So, while The Road will be different from what Sheridan has produced in the past, Wilson only had good things to say about the signature touch he brought to the show. After competing in (and winning) Season 13 of The Masked Singer on Fox, this isn't Wilson's first high-profile role on a music competition show.

But she's not competing this time around, and instead has a support role for the twelve performers who have high hopes for a country music career. So, what is her role as The Road's Tour Manager? She explained:

Even though she won't have all the duties of a tour manager who operates without a camera crew and TV show to film, she does have a major role on The Road. She shared some examples of how she helps out the contestants, who will suddenly find themselves in one of country music's brightest spotlights as openers for Keith Urban. She said:

Between all the alleged drama that led to Kevin Costner’s exit from Yellowstone and the unclear fate of his Horizon movies, there have been questions about what the actor is doing and his plans for what’s next. Now, after an article was published about the challenges he’s faced and the drama he’s been involved in, including one story about an on-set altercation on Taylor Sheridan’s show, a source has opened up about how he feels about this story and what his plans are for his next series.

How Kevin Costner Allegedly Reacted To The Story

Last week, a story was published by THR titled “How Kevin Costner Lost Hollywood.” In it, the financing troubles surrounding Horizon, Costner’s reportedly contentious exit from Taylor Sheridan’s modern Western, and more were discussed in detail. Also, it started with a story about an argument the John Dutton actor got into with his fellow Yellowstone cast member Wes Bentley, who played his son Jamie. Bentley’s team confirmed it, saying it was a “work-related argument” that happened during an emotional scene that was “discussed and resolved.”

Now that the story has made the rounds, Page Six spoke to a source who alleged that Costner is “furious” about this report. They claimed:

The story did a deep dive into the allegations surrounding Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan’s disagreements, it went through contentious moments in the actor’s career, and it discussed the future of his career and the Horizon franchise. Now, this new report is claiming that the Dances with Wolves director is leaving the world of Westerns and going out to sea for his next project.

Kevin Costner Is Reportedly Working On A Series About ‘Finding Sunken Treasure’

As various upcoming Yellowstone shows move forward and the Duttons’ story continues, there are big questions about what Kevin Costner, the former lead of this megahit, will do next. According to a source who spoke to Page Six, he’s into deep-sea diving. They explained:

The insider went on to claim that this will be the basis of the actor’s next project. They noted that “no one has signed on to finance it” yet, but he’s apparently shopping it around. They said:

The outlet also noted that Costner has worked with underwater archaeologist Alex Mirabal before, and they have a shared fascination with shipwrecks. However, at this moment, that fact and this supposed project are not connected.

It’s unclear if this series would be a docuseries or fictional, but Costner has worked in both realms. On the 2025 TV schedule, he has had two docuseries premiere, Yellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costner and Kevin Costner’s West. Meanwhile, he’s made a few movies that take place on the water, including The Guardian and Waterworld. So, with few details about this potential project, I could really see it going either way in terms of whether it’ll be fiction or nonfiction.

So, as we learn more about Kevin Costner’s possible move from the West to the oceans, we’ll keep you updated.

Between the rumor about Kevin Costner leaving Yellowstone coming out and the John Dutton actor confirming his exit, there were a lot of claims going around about why this was happening. Mostly, the reports surrounded the actor and the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, not seeing eye to eye, scheduling issues and more. However, now, a new story has emerged about the performer getting into a fight with Wes Bentley on set that apparently drew a “line in the sand.”

At this point, I think we all know that ultimately, John Dutton was killed off in Yellowstone’s Season 5B premiere, and Costner played no part in the show’s final episodes. However, what led to that outcome is still a bit ambiguous. But THR published a story all about Costner’s turbulent last few years, and provided some clarity about the tension on the Western show’s set that seemingly amplified the problems.

This was shown through a story involving the John Dutton actor and his co-star, Wes Bentley, who played his son Jamie Dutton. The report explained that while they were filming on a soundstage in Utah, between takes, Costner was apparently pushing Bentley to say something other than what Taylor Sheridan had scripted. The American Beauty actor wouldn’t do it, saying that he signed up to work on Sheridan’s show, not his co-star’s.

Apparently, that caused Costner to lunge at Bentley, as one source who was on set explained:

Bentley’s spokesperson confirmed this altercation as well. They explained that it was a “work related argument during an emotional and physically tough scene." They also said that the problems were “discussed and resolved.” Meanwhile, Costner’s camp declined to comment.

This apparent fight between the Yellowstone cast members was intense, and according to a witness, production briefly shut down after it. They also claimed that Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton and was in this scene with Bentley and Costner, was in tears over it.

Later in the report, it was claimed that this fight led to a line being drawn in the sand. Another source who was there explained that things weren’t the same after that, because everyone loved Bentley, and Taylor Sheridan was very mad about the situation. To that point, they explained:

Before the Horizon star’s exit was confirmed, there had been a lot of allegations about conflicts between him and the Yellowstone creator. At one point, news about a call they allegedly had got out, and it was claimed that during it, Costner had demanded more money, a reduced schedule and script approval. That last one about the scripts was apparently a non-starter.

In the THR report, it was also alleged that the actor took issue with Yellowstone’s spinoff, 1883. And there were many claims about how his Horizon films played into his decision to leave Sheridan’s show.

All around, the drama surrounding Costner and his eventual exit from Yellowstone was, and still is, intense, as this story illustrates. However, now his career is going on without it. Meanwhile, the upcoming Yellowstone shows will move on, presumably, without him as spinoffs starring original cast members Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are in the works. So, as we learn more about the parties involved in all this, we’ll keep you posted.

The finale of Lioness Season 2 aired on December 8, 2024. Now, about ten months later, as we’re nearing the end of the 2025 TV schedule, the Taylor Sheridan series has finally been renewed for Season 3. Obviously, that kind of window between a finale and renewal is fairly unusual, but getting the specifics figured out took time.

Lioness features many major A-listers (like many Taylor Sheridan shows do), and figuring out a schedule for production is time-consuming, per Deadline. Apparently, Season 3 (which you can see the announcement for below) was actually greenlighted earlier this year. However, it wasn’t announced publicly because the schedule, specifically for Kidman and Saldaña, was still being figured out.

Personally, I don’t find this all that surprising. Take Nicole Kidman and her work as an example; she is very busy. In 2024, the year Season 2 of Lioness came out, she also released the miniseries Expats and The Perfect Couple, as well as the movies A Family Affair, Babygirl and Spellbound. Also, in 2025, she was part of the movie Holland and Season 2 of the series Nine Perfect Strangers.

Then, as we look forward to Season 3, we can also anticipate the release of Practical Magic 2, which recently wrapped. On top of that, Kidman is in post-production on two other TV shows called Scarpetta and Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and in pre-production on Discretion and Girls and Their Horses. I bet that kind of slate alone makes scheduling Lioness hard.

Saldaña has also been incredibly busy. In 2024, she released Emilia Pérez, which she won an Oscar for, and this year, the animated movie Elio premiered, and Avatar: Fire and Ash is slated to come out in December.

I imagine it becomes an even harder puzzle when you factor in the rest of the Lioness cast, which notably includes Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner and more.

Along with that, while Saldaña had a three-season deal, there were reports months ago that Kidman had to negotiate a new one for Season 3, which, according to Deadline, took time. That deal came together earlier this year; however, scheduling still needed to be figured out.

So, considering all this, I’m grateful it’s all worked out, and now we know Season 3 of Lioness is really coming.

It is worth noting that it also took this long to renew Lioness for Season 2.

Anyway, now it’s time to get excited, because Season 3 of this espionage thriller is coming! And thankfully, while we wait, there’s a lot of other Sheridan shows coming down the pipe. At the moment, Tulsa King is being released for those with a Paramount+ subscription, and this month, on October 26, to be exact, Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown will premiere in the same place. Then, on November 16, Season 2 of Landman will start, and over the course of the following months, we’ll get a few upcoming Yellowstone shows by way of the Rip and Beth spinoff and Kayce’s CBS series.

So, you’ll have plenty to watch while we wait, because the wait for Season 3 of Lioness really is on, which is very, very exciting.

Much of the future of upcoming superhero cinema is in the hands of James Gunn and his DCU crew, where the current focus on Peacemaker will soon give way to more widespread anticipation for Milly Alcock’s Supergirl and Superman’s big-screen sequel Man of Tomorrow, not to mention all the obsessive attention going to the filmmaker’s eventual casting for the DCU’s Batman. As such, Gunn is always on the lookout for potential new cast members, and that hunt recently coincided with his innate fandom of Taylor Sheridan’s TV universe.

In particular, Gunn is most partial to Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel 1923, as headed up by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. The western-tinged drama also boasts a co-star in Brandon Sklenar, whom fans have championed as a potentially excellent choice to play Gunn’s Dark Knight. But it turns out that’s not the actor who sparked the director to make a casting suggestion, but rather Sklenar’s on-screen romantic partner.

That's right, James Gunn was apparently won over more by actress Julia Schlaepfer's performance in the series (which can be streamed in full via Paramount+ subscription) than anything else, to the point where he apparently put his influence to work. As he put it to THR:

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Gunn had to hyper-clarify everything he does on a daily basis to contextualize how it relates to Batman's DCU casting. "I'm going out for milk and bread, but there's no chance any grocery item pairings are going to be cast as the Caped Crusader." Seems like a wild exaggeration, but we're probably not that far off from something similar happening. But what isn't happening, seemingly, is Sklenar eventually donning the cape and cowl, even though the Guardians of the Galaxy helmer had nothing but positive things to say about the actor's skills.

But until Gunn says anything more concrete about Brandon Sklenar's future in the DCU, there's no reason to keep focusing on him. So let's instead put our attention back on Julia Schlaepfer, as there are at least three major DC roles that I think she'd be excellent for.

Barbara Gordon

Sure, we don't know much about Gotham City beyond the plain fact that it exists in the DCU, and that Peacemaker's Adebayo used to live there, but we can just blindly assume that there's a higher-up in the Police Dept. who goes by the name of James Gordon. And from there, we can extend those presumptions to include the existence of James' highly skilled daughter Barbara, whose vigilante personas include Batgirl and Oracle.

Despite James Gunn not even specifying that he'd suggested Schaepfler for a DCU role, I think there's enough of a chance for her to play Barbara Gordon that I'd stake money on it. (Not like, more than a dollar or anything.) I think it would be an intriguing move to introduce audiences to Barbara before meeting Jim directly, especially if there are plans in mind for what to do with her.

Black Canary (Dinah Lance)

Having previously appeared in live-action through The Flash and Birds of Prey, Dinah Lance is one of the most prominent and well-connected female heroes in DC lore, at least of the all-human variety. So it only makes sense for Black Canary to bring her primal Canary Cry into the DCU at some point. Given her long blonde locks, Julia Schaepfler has a lot of the look down already, though she may need more leather.

Considering the Lances are oft tied directly into Green Arrow stories, there's technically a chance that James Gunn suggested the actress to join the cast of HBO's Lanterns opposite Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. Filming supposedly wrapped in July on the new show, but considering casting announcements were still being unveiled in August, it's not impossible for Gunn to have actually suggested Schaepfler earlier than he's letting on.

Zatanna

Okay so maybe this suggestion has more to do with me really, really wanting to see Zatanna have a major live-action presence within the DCU, and not as much to do with Julia Schaepfler previously showing off her impeccable magic skills. Regardless, I still DO think that the 1923 star would pull off this role as well as anything else. She's proven she has the grace and dexterity to pull off such stage illusions, even if she might need some hair dye along the way.

Had Superman not jumped right into the fray of oddball comic book storytelling, I might not even think that the DCU would embrace magical characters so early, but something tells me James Gunn doesn't have such reservations.

Whatever happens with Julia Schaepfler, I can only hope that whoever took the suggestion from James Gunn takes advantage and signs her up posthaste. I guess she wouldn't look too out of place in Peacemaker's Earth X dimension, given what we know about it now.

I’ve got nothing against the ever-expanding Yellowstone universe or Taylor Sheridan’s various TV projects that are mostly available with a Paramount+ subscription, but I’ve been thinking about something lately. I recently went back and watched Wind River, and watching that gripping 2017 thriller sent me down a rabbit hole of Sheridan’s pre-Yellowstone work.

I really miss those days when Sheridan was writing (and directing in the case of Wind River) some of the best crime thrillers of the 2010s, projects that earned him all kinds of accolades, including an Oscar nomination for the harrowing Sicario. It’s no secret that the actor-turned-director is having unparalleled success with multiple shows on the 2025 TV schedule and beyond, but it’d be cool if he went back to his old days.

Don't Get Me Wrong, Yellowstone Is A Good Show

Don’t think this is me coming at Yellowstone, because it’s a good show (as are the various spinoffs that have been popping up the past few years). From 2018 to 2024, the neo-Western drama series about the Dutton family taking on any and all challengers or anyone who got in their way was one of the biggest shows on TV, and for good reason. It didn’t win any Primetime Emmy Awards, but neither did The Wire, and that’s my favorite show of all time.

TV viewers and a lot of my colleagues at CinemaBlend were obsessed with the drama and action of the series during its five-season run on the Paramount Network (you can still stream old episodes with a Peacock subscription, by the way), and the Kevin Costner-led saga had everything you’d want in a show.

It's Just That Sheridan's Film Projects Have Fallen By The Wayside Since Creating The Yellowstone Universe

Since Yellowstone debuted in June 2018, Taylor Sheridan has created two prequel series set in the universe with 1883 and 1923, as well as the upcoming spinoff called The Madison. He’s also launched the Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Landman, and Tulsa King, with the latter getting the expansion treatment in the near future. Again, I have no problems with these shows, and I dig the ones that I’ve watched. However, his film projects have gone by the wayside in the 2020s.

Sheridan started the decade off with the fun throwback thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead and Without Remorse, a Tom Clancy adaptation starring Michael B. Jordan, but he hasn’t written or directed any movies since.

He Wrote Three Of The Best Thrillers Of The 2010s, And I'd Love For Him To Get Back To That

What’s crazy about this is the fact that Taylor Sheridan was responsible for three of the best movies of the 2010s. He went back-to-back with absolute bangers, starting with Sicario (directed by Denis Villeneuve) in 2015, followed by the Oscar-worthy Hell or High Water (directed by David Mackenzie) in 2016, and Wind River, which he wrote and directed, in 2017. That’s a trilogy of intense, incredibly written, and unforgettable crime thrillers with some of the best developed characters in years.

I would absolutely love for Sheridan to get into another groove like that and bang out three more ridiculously awesome movies again. I’d be there in theaters, on streaming services, or wherever they would land.

I don’t know what the future holds for Taylor Sheridan’s film work, but I can’t be the only one who wants to see his work back on the big screen.

There have been a lot of great Taylor Sheridan movies and TV shows over the years, but I’ll be damned if Wind River is not the best thing he’s ever made. I’ve been obsessed with this movie ever since it first came out back in 2017, and over the years, I’ve watched it more times than I can count. Now that it’s available once again with a Netflix subscription, I’ve gone back and done it again.

Revisiting the gritty thriller near the top of CinemaBlend’s best of 2017 list, I was oh so excited to experience Wind River’s most intense scene: the standoff between police and a menacing group of security contractors. After watching this scene for like the hundredth time, I have to talk about it…

The Standoff Between The Police And The Oilfield Security Team Is A Masterclass In Rising Tension

Though Taylor Sheridan is mostly known these days for his work on the ever-expanding Yellowstone universe and its wide array of characters, folks shouldn’t forget that he’s one of the best screenwriters when it comes to rising tension. This scene, which takes place as Elizabeth Olsen’s FBI Agent Jane Banner leads a group of police to investigate the murder of a young Native American woman, starts off innocent enough with a conversation between authorities and security contractors on a drilling site, but that doesn’t last long.

Over the course of the scene, Sheridan slowly yet methodically pushes the pieces around, eventually leading to a terrifyingly extreme and unpredictable standoff where everyone has drawn their guns while also having a gun pointed at them. It’s patient, it’s quiet, it’s thrilling, and it’s an absolute masterclass in tension that is just as remarkable now as it was upon my first watch.

Also, The Way Taylor Sheridan Inserts A Flashback In The Middle Is Perfect

I also can’t get enough of how Sheridan inserts a flashback just before everything pops off. Natalie Hanson’s (Kelsey Asbille) fate is already known before the scene, but the how and why aren’t revealed until this grueling and traumatizing sequence. The flashback, which shows Natalie’s final hours, as well as those of her ill-fated boyfriend, Matt Rayburn (Jon Bernthal), starts innocently enough before turning into a gut-wrenching and gutting series of events.

We don’t really know where the security guards stand before this, but all hope that these guys aren’t complicit in the murders goes out the window as we watch the same guys brutally assault a woman before beating her boyfriend to death in front of her, before she suffers a similar fate. Cutting back to the present day, now knowing what these guys are about, takes things to the next level.

The Shootout Following The Standoff Is Equally As Terrifying And Intense

After an intense standoff and a harrowing flashback, everything comes to a head when the cops and security contractors start shooting each other like it’s a scene out of one of the best Westerns. Jane getting shot off the front step, Officer Ben Shoyo (the late Graham Greene) taking out a few contractors before getting shot in the neck, and a near execution before Agent Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) kills the rest with a high-power rifle make this an unforgettable and terrifying scene.

The entire sequence is loud, explosive, and chaotic, and it’s pulled off so effectively because of the way Sheridan allowed the tension to slowly build over the course of several minutes.

It seems like I’m not alone in my love for Wind River, as the movie is currently rising through the ranks of the Netflix Top 10 nearly a decade after its release.

Taylor Sheridan is on a roll. The writer, director, and showrunner who built the Yellowstone empire of mainline and spinoff series has already proven he can dominate television, but now one of his best big-screen works is finding new life on streaming. A gripping crime thriller from 2017 is climbing the charts thanks to those with a Netflix subscription, and it more than earns the attention it’s getting.

Currently sitting at a rock-solid 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, millions of subscribers are rediscovering Wind River, many of whom may have missed its initial release, as its No. 5 place in the US Top Ten proves. The film stars Avengers veterans, Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, reuniting the pair outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies for a far grittier story set in the remote, snow-swept landscape of Wyoming.

Wind River isn’t just another crime thriller—it really sticks with you. What hits me the hardest about the film is how raw and unrefined it feels. There’s none of that glossy, overproduced vibe you find in so many modern Hollywood dramas. Instead, it dives into grit and honesty, making every moment feel real and relatable. That 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes? Totally deserved, because Wind River has that rare ability to linger with you after watching.

If, after catching up on Sheridan’s television hits with your Paramount+ subscription, you find yourself scrolling through Netflix and craving a story that blends the suspense of a murder mystery with the emotional heft of a human drama, make time for Wind River. Taylor Sheridan has cemented himself as one of today’s most compelling storytellers, and this film is a perfect reminder of why.

In the last few years, Taylor Sheridan went from being known for acting in shows like Sons of Anarchy to one of Hollywood’s most prolific writers and producers working in television. His shows Yellowstone, Lioness, and Landman are some of his most successful titles, and he doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Now, Sheridan fans can also get excited about one of his OG films (and best works ever) heading to streaming very soon.

Sicario is about to become available with a Peacock subscription starting on September 1, which is huge news for cinephiles everywhere. Sicario is the first film Sheridan wrote that was made into a major motion picture. The movie is fantastic, and Sheridan’s writing paired with the astounding direction of Denis Villeneuve, makes the film a modern classic.

Many critics agree, as the movie currently holds an impressive 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Sicario cast can't be overstated either, as Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio del Toro give some of their best performances.

For those who haven’t seen the film, Sicario follows FBI agent Kate Macer, played by Blunt, on a top-secret assignment near the U.S.-Mexican border after she has been recruited for a government task force. The team is led by Alejandro, played by Del Toro, under the guise that the team is fighting drug cartels. However, Kate learns there is a lot more going on under the surface. The movie ends up exploring themes surrounding morality and corruption, and the idealism of the American Dream.

Sicario ended up inspiring a sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which was also written by Sheridan. The film feels like a touchstone for Sheridan’s career, as many of the themes and institutions investigated in the movie are also investigated in his other projects, like Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown -- which are both available with a Paramount+ subscription.

The film was also a huge moment for Sheridan as a creative, as it served as his jumping-off point as a powerhouse behind the scenes. Now, he's the mastermind behind massive hit shows like Yellowstone, and he's even tried his hand at directing. If anyone is a fan of Sheridan’s work, Sicario feels like an integral title on their watchlist.

Sicario returning to streaming isn’t the only exciting thing happening in the Sheridan-verse. There are two spinoffs directly related to Yellowstone in the works. Additionally, the third season of Tulsa King is set for release next month, Landman wrapped its second season and will come out later this year, and Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 will premiere in October. Sheridan writes shows at an unimaginable pace, which is a true testament to his skill and hard work, and is also a true treat for his fans.

He has a lot on his plate, but maybe he will someday have time for a third Sicario film. I have a feeling there is about to be a true audience for one once Sicario is rediscovered in this upcoming streaming run.

There’s no question that the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and all the other news surrounding the Paramount and Skydance merger has caused a lot of talk about how things could change at CBS, Paramount+ and more. That got me wondering about the future of upcoming Yellowstone shows. However, Paramount’s CEO, David Ellison, shared his thoughts on what lies ahead for Taylor Sheridan, and his comment proves that the producer's projects aren’t going anywhere.

It was reported that Ellison acknowledged the “uber importance” of Taylor Sheridan during a meet and greet that was held in the new home of Paramount-Skydance (via THR). While discussing the future of properties like Top Gun, Star Trek and more, he also couldn’t deny the popularity of the Yellowstone franchise and its creator’s track record. To that point, he said:

I can’t say I’m shocked that he feels this way about Taylor Sheridan and his work. The sheer volume of shows he has that can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription proves that he’s been a high priority for the company for years now.

However, considering the merger and the news of Colbert’s cancellation, it’s hard not to wonder how other things could change.

Thankfully, it sounds like they won’t for Sheridan and his shows. In fact, it seems like they’ve become even more of a priority for the newly merged company, considering the success they’ve all had in the past.

He’s also experienced success across platforms. Yellowstone's first episode without Kevin Costner brought in the show’s biggest ratings ever, as it roped in 16.4 million viewers during its Sunday night premiere that aired on both its home network, the Paramount Network, and CBS. Meanwhile, its spinoff, 1923, got 1.4 billion minutes watched in one week over on Paramount+.

Plus, considering the number of Yellowstone spinoffs and other Sheridan-produced shows in the works, it’s clear how much faith this company has in the super producer/writer.

On the 2025 TV schedule alone, we know we’ll be getting Season 3 of Tulsa King on September 21, Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown on October 26 and Season 2 of Landman on November 16. On top of that, the Rip and Beth Yellowstone spinoff is expected to premiere this year, too. Then, early next year, Kayce’s show, Y: Marshals, will be featured on CBS’s 2025-2026 primetime lineup.

That’s not all, either. We’re still also waiting on updates for Yellowstone’s spinoffs like 6666, 1944 and The Madison.

All-in-all, Paramount-Skydance seemingly isn’t changing anything about the plans for Taylor Sheridan’s long list of work. In fact, they seem to love it so much they’ll take even more of it. So, while some shows get cut from the company's lineup, others will stay put, and in some cases expand. So, as we learn more about all of it, we’ll keep you updated.

We are one massive step closer to watching Landman Season 2 with a Paramount+ subscription, because production has officially wrapped. So, Ali Larter is celebrating. The actress, who plays Angela Norris on the series, shared her celebration during sunset with us all, too.

Ali Larter has always been very loud and proud about her love for Landman. Her Instagram is full of BTS and still images from the series, and her latest post might be my favorite so far. Uploading two images seemingly taken at sunset, the actress wrote about her gratitude for this Taylor Sheridan series and how proud she is of this upcoming season. Take a look:

Alright, let’s break this down. First of all, I adore how she used her caption to praise the cast and crew. As she stated, their “time, effort, love, laughter and dedication” is what makes Landman “so special.”

Next, let’s take a moment to appreciate these images. Landman is filmed in Texas, which can be tough in the summer with the heat, but it is also gorgeous. Larter’s photos proved that. The first image, with the blazing orange sun, is absolutely stunning, and I adore her cute outfit that includes jeans and a simple white tank. Meanwhile, the second photo shows presumably her and maybe Billy Bob Thornton, who plays her on-screen husband Tommy Norris, standing together with the sun behind them.

They’re gorgeous images, and they feel like such a great companion to the sentimental caption the Final Destination actress wrote.

The common reaction in the comments was about how fans can’t wait for Season 2, and I’m right there with them.

For starters, Sam Elliott is joining the series, marking another very famous actor to star in a Taylor Sheridan show. Not only that, but it will mark his second series with the mega producer, as he led the Yellowstone prequel 1883, in which Billy Bob Thornton also had a cameo in. So, his involvement in the oil drama is very, very exciting.

Also, in the Season 1 finale of Landman, Andy Garcia’s cartel leader, Gallino, finally made his appearance, and we’ve been hoping that he’ll play a much bigger role in Season 2. I’m hopeful that Demi Moore’s Cami will play a bigger part in the new episodes, too, after playing a shockingly small role in Season 1.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Tommy and Angela’s ever-dramatic relationship evolves as well, while their kids figure out their place in the family and the family business.

So, all around this post from Larter is getting me hyped for what’s to come, and hopefully, we get to watch it on the 2025 TV schedule too. However, a release date is not confirmed, but I would guess it could come out at the end of this year or early 2026, considering that’s when Season 1 was released.

All that is to say, I’m thrilled about what’s to come, and Larter’s post about wrapping up filming upped the excitement tenfold. So, let’s get ready to return to Texas.

Since 1923 ended on the 2025 TV schedule, we haven’t had a Taylor Sheridan show on the air in months, which is hard after getting a wealth of them throughout the end of 2024. So, now, it’s been a few months, and I’m itching for a new season of one of the producer’s gritty dramas. Thankfully, Hugh Dillon just confirmed that Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown will be returning this fall. So, that, mixed with other information we know about upcoming Yellowstone shows, should make every fan of Sheridan happy.

So far, every update we’ve gotten about Mayor of Kingstown has increased my excitement to eventually watch Season 4 with my Paramount+ subscription. From finding out that Edie Falco, Laura Benanti and Lennie James were cast to seeing production updates from Renner, each piece of info ups my anticipation. However, co-creator and cast member Hugh Dillon’s Instagram post about wrapping production is extra thrilling because it gives us an official countdown, as he wrote:

They certainly deserve that pie pictured in the post for all their hard work! Now, the wait is really on for us as we count down to October.

Now, that alone is exciting. However, what makes this even better is that it fully stacks the last part of 2025 and early 2026 with shows from Taylor Sheridan.

While no firm release dates are set, this update from Dillon marks the third release window that’s been confirmed for a Sheridan-produced series. Earlier this year, it was announced that the Rip and Beth spinoff would premiere on the Paramount Network in November, and then it was confirmed that Kayce’s series would be part of CBS’s 2025-2026 lineup, with a premiere set for early 2026.

That means that from at least October through the spring of 2026, we’ll have a show from the prolific writer to watch. Last year, we had a similar schedule of events. Throughout the final part of 2024, we got new seasons of Lioness and Yellowstone as well as the first season of Landman. Not long after that, Season 2 of 1923 started. It was a great time to be a fan of these shows.

Now, the end of 2025 will be a time like that again. We’ll get to return to Kingstown with Renner in October. We’ll get to see Rip and Beth’s next chapter in November. Then we’ll get to watch Kayce laying down the law in the new year. Plus, we know The Madison has been filmed and Landman and Tulsa King are in production right now, so there may be more titles added to this list, too.

So, buckle up, folks, we’re in for a dramatic ride when Mayor of Kingstown returns and helps usher in some of Taylor Sheridan’s other anticipated series.

One of the biggest TV debuts in 2024 wasn’t about superheroes, medical professionals, government agents, or media mogul billionaires, but rather the world of Texas oilfields. (Landman does feature several non-media billionaires, and Jerry Jones did pop in for a guest spot, but I digress.) The latest of Taylor Sheridan’s streaming dramas was a massive hit for viewers with Paramount+ subscriptions, with Emmy nomination hopes also on the table, and the cast members shared a few thoughts about the currently filming Season 2.

Billy Bob Thornton On Sam Elliott And Andy Garcia In Season 2

To be expected, Thornton wasn't able to talk willy nilly about everything fans can expect to see. In fact, he seemingly didn't address any story elements when talking to THR. However, he did confirm that production for Season 2 kicked off in April, and the actor believes filming will be concluding in August. As well, he addressed what I think is the biggest addition to Season 2, Sam Elliott, who already starred in a Taylor Sheridan series, 1883. According to Thornton:

To be sure, Billy Bob Thornton himself guest-starred in 1883 as Marshal Jim Courtright for a pretty hectic episode. As far as I can tell, though, he and Sam Elliott first co-starred in 1992's highly quotable western Tombstone, while apparently knowing each other behind the scenes even before that. It's impossible to guess what to expect from the above comment, but I think we can at least infer that they've been working together, and that Sam won't be held for a last-minute arrival the way Andy Garcia's cartel boss Galino was before his Season 1 finale arrival.

Speaking of Garcia, Billy Bob Thornton made sure to confirm that Garcia's character will have a bigger role in Season 2, while also speaking to their personal history together.

The two actors did share a scene in Landman's finale, during which Thornton's Tommy was tied up and beaten. But it'll be interesting to see if the Season 2 story plays out in a way where Galino and Tommy will be in close poximity on a regular basis. I can't imagine that would be the case, but I wouldn't want either Galino or Sam Elliott's character to show up mostly in scenes away from the main characters.

Landman's Jacob Lofland On Filming In The Texas Heat

For all that the cast and crew members are happy about being around each other while Season 2 is coming together, Cooper Norris portrayer Jacob Lofland brought up a specific downside to filming this series in Texas during the spring and summer months. As he put it:

As someone who has lived in either Louisiana or Texas for my entire life, I can speak at length about how awful it is to have to be outside for any amount of time ahead of and during the dreary summer months. Texas isn't always as humid and muggy, but those details hardly matter once one has sweat through multiple layers of clothing. So I'm glad to hear that precautions are being taken, since heat strokes are no joke.

Thankfully, it doesn't sound like the heat is so miserable that it's affecting anyone's opinions about the scripts that were crafted for Season 2. Lofland paid them especially high praise in saying:

Hopefully those "amazing" scripts will also feature a big uptick in scenes featuring Demi Moore's Cami, who was underutilized in the first season as the wife of Jon Hamm's Monty. He's gone now, though, so the door should be open for Cami to walk through and shine. Just hopefully not as bright as the Texas sun, lest production be shut down early.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of those popular properties that always seems to pop up when you least expect it, even on the 2025 movie schedule. While director Tobe Hooper’s entry in the ranks of the best horror movies of all time won’t be yelling “action” any time soon, there is a buzz about the film that’s attracted a surprising party: Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan.

As if that wasn’t enough to get hyped about, his competition for the honors is pretty stacked as well. Reporting out of Deadline has what it's called a “beauty contest” kicking off on Monday, with Sheridan’s pitch to produce “a future Texas Chainsaw Massacre project” being part of the mix.

However, two other creative parties stood out to me as even more intriguing prospects, as The Monkey’s Osgood Perkins and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are also competing for the rights. Both of those horror creatives are exciting prospects, while also being more traditionally horror-minded folks.

It should also be noted that Perkins is only the co-writer/producer on his pitch, while the Nope writer/director’s role beyond his production company's involvement is uncertain. Oh, and remember how we reported that Glen Powell bidding war over The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Apparently, his TV pitch with A24 is still on the table for this round, which would pair well with the studio's upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series.

Now while this is a rights management contest with no frontrunner, each of those highlighted contenders would have a unique flavor to offer. Taylor Sheridan’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre could take the cutthroat family dynamic he’s known for in Yellowstone and its various spinoffs, and amp up the terror angle in the right hands. Maybe a rugged Tim McGraw could take on Leatherface with a shotgun, in a battle royale for the ages?

Meanwhile, Osgood Perkins’ variant, to be co-written/directed by The Strangers Bryan Bertino, would more than likely be a slow burn descent into madness. If you want to talk about “traditional,” this might be the avenue that best suits the original movie’s tone and execution.

But I’m starting to really get stoked about a Monkeypaw Productions take on Tobe Hooper and co-writer Kim Henkel's original creation. Sinners' recent box office success makes it quite easy to picture the Sawyer family as the ultimate symbol of racial injustice, squaring off against a more diverse band of unsuspecting victims. You can kind of see why so many horror hands have tried to revamp this series and continue to do so despite lackluster results like Texas Chainsaw 3D.

It’s hard not to get excited about any of these pitches, and I do understand that this process may find a new winner that beats them all. So long as whoever lands The Texas Chainsaw Massacre does something fresh and try to convince us Alexandra Daddario is twice as old as she really is, then we should be set for some excitement!

Out of all of Yellowstone's various recurring elements, none drew my delight with intensity in the way Jamie and Beth's tensest scenes would, and those will likely forever remain my biggest highlights from each season. Their brutal and bloody series finale showdown marked the end of a decades-long sibling rivalry, and while it sadly didn't last the entire episode or involve any chainsaws, it was perfect all the same.

To be expected, I nerded out appropriately when speaking to Yellowstone's stunt coordinator Jason Rodriguez about bringing that scene to life, as well as his many years on Taylor Sheridan-created projects, including prequels 1883 and 1923. An industry veteran out of Texas whose work will be seen in other upcoming Yellowstone-verse series, Rodriguez surprised me with some of the details he shared, so let's dive in.

Beth And Jamie's Brutal Brawl Took Less Than Two Days To Film

If I had to wager money on it, I'm not exactly sure how long I'd think filming Beth and Jamie's finale bout would have taken, but I know I would have overshot the actual timeline of things. When I asked the stunt head about bringing it together, he immediately blew my mind, saying:

The "stuff" going along with the blood would be the pepper spray and milk that Jamie pours all over his face. I can't say I've ever filmed a fight with milk drying in my hair, but Wes gets that badge of honor.

Yellowstone seemingly worked that scene and other choreographed fights more akin to stage plays, where a lot of the details were worked out in the rehearsal process. Rodriguez continued:

Just in case anyone thinks Wes Bentley might have balked at having Jamie go through getting his ass whooped up on before flat-out dying, Rodriguez shared:

Unfortunately for the black sheep of the Dutton family, he literally gave everything he had in that fight, and won't be around to pop up in Beth and Rip's upcoming spinoff, at least outside of possible flashbacks.

Wes Bentley And Kelly Reilly Filmed Nearly Everything That Fans Watched

I always get taken out of a movie or TV show when it's entirely too obvious that a featured actor has been replaced by a stunt actor. (I get why it has to happen sometimes, but knowing doesn't help.) That isn't ever really the case on Yellowstone, and definitely not in Beth and Jamie's fight, as it looks like Kelly Reilly and Wes Bentley are both on screen the entire time.

It turns out that's mostly right, as Jason Rodriguez explained how Taylor Sheridan doesn't go the traditional route when filming certain stunt sequences. As he put it:

Safety is obviously key in any scene, but the actors are at the point where they can take it right to the edge before having to step aside. Rodriguez gave an example:

It's quite a smooth way to handle things, since it cuts out any opportunities for bizarrely wigged or too-tall stunt performers to to stand out in an immersion-breaking way.

As he explained:

The stunt coordinator also talked about Cole Hauser, whom Rodriguez has worked with with, arriving as Rip to save Beth from being strangled by her brother. That interaction provided another quick swap-and-go situation.

For all that I understand why filming it in more traditional ways makes sense, I can't exactly knock this method with a tire iron.

I can't wait to see everything else on the way from Jason Rodriguez in the world of Yellowstone, and since there isn't a Dutton relative out there who can avoid getting into a slam-bang of a fight, I'm sure he'll be quite busy indeed.

When 1923 aired its Season 2 finale, it was clear that that chapter of Spencer Dutton’s story had come to a close, and to this day, it’s unclear if Brandon Sklenar will play the cowboy again in an upcoming Yellowstone project. However, while his future in that world is uncertain right now, what is certain is the fact that Sklenar is set to collaborate with Yellowstone’s mastermind, Taylor Sheridan, again on a new project.

Not long after 1923 came to a close on the 2025 TV schedule (you can watch it with a Paramount+ subscription, by the way), it was announced that the show’s star and creator would collaborate again. According to THR, Sklenar will star in Sheridan’s film F.A.S.T., which is an action thriller that’s been in the works for quite some time.

Reportedly, talks are happening right now between Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount to make this movie happen. Also, it was reported that the feature package will include 1923’s star, Sklenar, as well as its primary director and cinematographer Ben Richardson, who has worked with Sheridan on the aforementioned prequel as well as 1883, Mayor of Kingstown and Yellowstone.

In a statement about F.A.S.T. and the team set to work on it with Sheridan, Warn Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy made their enthusiasm for the project very known, explaining:

Based on the creative team and star alone, I’m also “thrilled” about F.A.S.T.

This film, which Sheridan has written and is reportedly producing, will be his first movie since 2021’s Those Who Wish Me Dead. Before creating Yellowstone, his best-known works were movies like Sicario, Hell or High Water and Wind River. So, this new project marks an exciting return to the medium that got him started as the writer we know today.

Also, this movie fits right in the super producer's wheelhouse. According to the report, F.A.S.T. will follow a former special forces commando who is hired by the DEA to head a black ops strike team against drug dealers. The catch is, these dealers are protected by the CIA. So, if you like Sicario or Lioness, this sounds like the film for you.

Overall, this sounds like a fun project that fits within the writer’s catalog of work, and it seems like a great vehicle for Brandon Sklenar to continue his growing movie career. In the world of film, he’s had breakout moments in films like It Ends With Us and Drop. He’s also set to star in the book-to-screen adaptation of The Housemaid on the 2025 movie schedule, further solidifying himself as a star both in and outside of the Yellowstone world.

F.A.S.T. seems like a great next step for this actor who proved he's fit to be a leading man on 1923.

At the moment, Warner Bros is planning to release this film theatrically on April 23, 2027. Notably, this is a big update, because Sheridan wrote F.A.S.T.'s script in the mid-2010s, and since then it’s been passed from Warner Bros to Amazon and back to Warner Bros with potential for releases both theatrically and on streaming. Additionally, the producer has a “strict exclusive deal with Paramount,” which is where all his shows live, and that’s led to a need to make a deal between both studios.

However, it seems like things are working out, and eventually, we’ll get to see Taylor Sheridan and Brandon Sklenar reunite on the big screen for F.A.S.T. in 2027.

As fans await the next chapter of Taylor Sheridan’s multi-era western franchise, the most promising upcoming Yellowstone show has seemingly been Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s long-in-development Beth and Rip-centered spinoff, which will serve as a direct follow-up to the mothership series. But as any presumed production starts get ever closer, rumors have started swirling around the project that alleges the two co-stars are trying to take control and make the new show all about their characters.

Now, that might not sound very much live diva behavior to anyone who’s already of the belief that the modern-day offshoot was meant to focus solely on the fan-favorite couple. But let’s not forget that when that project’s existence was first reported on back in February 2023, as Sheridan and Kevin Costner’s issues were causing chaos, the idea was for Matthew McConaughey to join up in a starring role. That deal reportedly fell through, and it’s been a while since any other A-listers passed through the rumor mill.

According to RadarOnline, that could remain the case, with an insider source claiming that Reilly and Hauser are pushing Taylor Sheridan away from the idea of casting anyone else who would have both a higher paygrade and spot on the call sheet. Per the insider, the duo’s alleged demands are kicking up dust.

The outlet also says Keilly Reilly and Cole Hauser are nicknamed the "gruesome twosome" behind the scenes, which is as big a reminder as any that all of these claims should be taken with heaping grains of salt.

Despite claims that certain cast and crew members have taken offense, it seems as though it's generally understood why Reilly and Hauser would want to fight for their characters to be the heart and soul of the show as opposed to a new character whose roots can't be viewed across five seasons of Yellowstone. The insider also said:

Beth and Rip's new spinoff is set to be the first modern-day Yellowstone series available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription, but now that CBS’ Fall TV schedule has been revealed, we know it won't actually be the next follow-up series to debut, as the Kayce Dutton-led spinoff was confirmed for a series order, which would traditionally mean a Winter 2026 midseason premiere, though that would all stem from how quickly the scripts come together.

If Taylor Sheridan truly still isn't off and running by way of crafting Beth and Rip's new show, though, then that could throw a wrench into the development pipeline for Luke Grimes' tentatively titled Y: Marshals. But seeing as how the latter is the only project that officially has a future, maybe it'll take top priority for the prolific creator.

The 2025 TV schedule just got real interesting as CBS announced its primetime lineup for the ‘25-’26 season. After renewing nine shows at once, along with bringing a bunch of others back, CBS is also introducing some new projects, like Kayce’s Yellowstone spinoff and singing competition produced by Taylor Sheridan and starring Blake Shelton. CBS Confirms Kayce’s Yellowstone Spinoff Will Come Out In The Spring Of 2026

So, let’s start with the upcoming Yellowstone show. Luke Grimes will reprise his role as Kayce Dutton in Y: Marshals, which is a working title. The series will follow the youngest Dutton as he “joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals.”

At the end of Yellowstone, we left Kayce kind of on the Dutton Ranch after he gave most of it back to the Broken Rock people. According to this new show's synopsis, that ranch is “behind him,” and this new series will combine “his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana.”

Y: Marshals will join the CBS primetime lineup in the spring of 2026 in the 9 p.m. slot on Sunday, and it will be another addition to the growing list of Yellowstone shows, which includes upcoming projects like the Rip and Beth spinoff, Dutton Ranch, Michelle Pfeiffer’s The Madison and the prequel 1944.

For The First Time, A Full Night Will Be Dedicated To NCIS

For the first time ever, CBS is putting three of its NCIS shows on one night. Starting in the fall of 2025, the franchise will take up the entire 8-11 p.m. slot on Tuesdays.

This means Season 23 of NCIS will air at 8 p.m. It will be followed by Season 2 of NCIS: Origins at 9 p.m. Then, the day will end with Season 3 of NCIS: Sydney at 10 p.m.

So, if you love the world of NCIS, Tuesdays will be your night to tune in, because it’s all CBS will be airing.

I’m The Most Shocked By Taylor Sheridan Teaming Up With Blake Shelton

Now, the two aforementioned topics are massive news. However, I might be more shocked by a new show that was announced with this schedule.

Before Y: Marshals takes the stage on Sundays in the spring, The Road will air during that 9 p.m. slot this fall. This is a new singing competition produced by Yellowstone’s mastermind Taylor Sheridan, and it will feature Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson.

This will mark Shelton’s return to the world of singing competitions after his tenure as a coach on The Voice, and he’ll get to collaborate with Urban and Wilson, who are both dominant voices in the country music world.

Overall, this sounds epic, and considering the team behind it, I’m in shock and awe over this new show.

The Full CBS Lineup

Along with all of that, CBS did announce its full line-up, which included a handful of new shows that are worth mentioning. Along with The Road, the fall programming will include the Blue Bloods follow-up, Boston Blue, the first Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Country, the Tom Ellis-led series CIA, and a new comedy called DMV. Meanwhile, the midseason premieres will include Harlan Coben’s Final Twist and America’s Culinary Cup, as well as the return of Watson for Season 2 after the Season 1 finale that will – to quote the showrunner – "go bang!"

Adding to the excitement, a ton of beloved shows, like Ghosts, Tracker and Fire Country, are returning too, and you can see CBS’s full 2025-2026 lineup below:

Overall, CBS’s lineup for the next season is thrilling, and I can’t wait for it.

However, we’ll have to wait a few months for it. Have no fear, though. Everything from CBS’s schedule this season is available with a Paramount+ subscription, so you have plenty of time to get caught up and stay entertained while we wait for this next season of programming.

After a two-year absence, and after the fifth and final-ish season of its predecessor Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 landed on the 2025 TV schedule to wrap up its second season with a variety of deadly outcomes for multiple main characters, including Julia Schlaepfer’s Alexandra Dutton and Brandon Sklenar’s Spencer. Things were thankfully less fatal for Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren’s Jacob and Cara Dutton, propping the metaphorical door open for their potential returns. Just how much potential’s there, though?

One might think the answer is “zilch,” but that’d underestimate just how enjoyable both Ford and Mirren found filming 1923 to be. Both A-tier actors were on hand to talk about the Paramount+ series for an FYC Q&A — an event I doubt either would have attended if they weren’t all-in on the Duttons — and while Ford shared his interest level on potentially reprising Jacob for an upcoming Yellowstone show, Mirren talked baby John and the long-gestating sequel-prequel 1944, first announced in November 2023.

Harrison Ford On Possibly Returning To Yellowstone-Verse As Jacob Dutton

Despite starring in some of the most successful and celebrated movie franchises in existence in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford isn't an actor that's ever been synonymous with sequels, and even his Jack Ryan movies are mutually exclusive enough. But he spoke quite highly about 1923's final episode, saying it was "fantastic" and "probaby the densest script" that he's lent his efforts to in years.

So with 1944 on the way and no direct signs of when and/or how Jacob and Cara meet their makers, it's still feasible for Ford's now-retired rancher to survive into the next series in grandpa-mode. And it doesn't sound like the actor would reject the offer to come back, either. As he put it:

One can only hope that franchise ringleader Taylor Sheridan himself has a clear idea of where he's taking the Duttons' story, and whether it'll eventually link up directly with the mothership series. And logistically speaking, I don't think he'd be that interested in having 100-year-old Jacob Dutton strutting around in 1944, but I think it would be a great move to pepper that show with flashbacks that lay out how Jacob, Cara and Spencer got on together after their extended time apart.

But Helen Mirren's Thoughts About Baby John Have Me More Curious

Interestingly enough, 1923 ends on an adorable note for Cara Dutton, whose final moments have her cradling Spender and Alex's John Dutton II. And for all the speculation that's gone into that baby's existence - here's what the cast told CinemaBlend about it - no one taking part in the FYC chat was coughing up any additional details.

But Mirren sounded pretty interested in the idea of 1923 closing out on youth and age coming together in such a way, and I have to wonder if she'd be interested in exploring Cara's motherly skills with an actual infant instead of grown kids. Here's how she described it:

Indeed, that generation will likely be heavily impacted by both Cara and Jacob Dutton, as well as Spencer (whose flash-forward death was laid out in 1923's final moments). So it would possibly feel like too empty of a house if 1944 arrives and it's just Spencer, another wife, and two kids that viewers don't know anything about. Sure would be good to have something familiar around in that case, such as Harrison Ford's face made up to look 20 years old. Or maybe that'd be frightening. I can't quite tell.

I guess it's worth pointing out here that 1923 technically hasn't been canceled or anything, so it's possible that Season 3 could happen and give fans a more direct look at Cara and Jacob raising John II. But we'll have to wait and see if Paramount+'s execs make any publicized decisions going forward.

There’s been a dearth of Yellowstone-centric drama since the prequel 1923 wrapped its run earlier in the 2025 TV schedule, but the wait hopefully won’t last forever, with both another prequel (1944) as well as the sequel series headed up by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s Beth and Rip going forward, respectively. The latter has so far only been known by its character-based description, but it appears a tentative official title has surfaced, and like others within this franchise, it won’t win any awards for originality.

The name Yellowstone is all-encompassing enough to apply to just about anything, from the state park to the river to the Paradise Valley ranch that the Dutton family held onto for so many years. But beyond that successful designation, Taylor Sheridan’s various dramas have been christened with increasingly more plain and unimaginative names. So perhaps an abundance of shock is not required upon learning that Beth and Rip’s new spinoff will possibly take on the following title, according to Bloomberg:

I realize there's a certain kind of beauty and effectiveness in aiming for the shortest and easiest TV titles, so that there's no confusion over how to pronounce things (such as Amy Sherman-Palladino's new show Étoile). But Dutton Ranch sounds like a placeholder put into play by someone who'd only seen a single title-card poster for the show without ever watching any episodes.

One reason this rumored title might be worthy of appreciation is that it seems to pointedly distinguish Beth and Rip's land as different from the ranch that John Dutton and his ancestors fought so hard to keep as one massive family-owned tract. But I mean, give it a name with some zazz attached. I mean, at this point, they might as well take a page out of Sam Walton's Walmart playbook and just call it Dutranch.

Of course, Beth isn't the only Dutton family member who owns her own land, even if hers is the only one located far away from the family's former home. I'm talking, of course, about Luke Grimes' Kayce. He hilariously set the deal with Rainwater in the Season 5 finale, albeit by hilariously counting his stipulations incorrectly, that secured a permanent piece of land to live on with Monica and Tate.

But this new sequel show presumably wouldn't be accounting for Kayce's land with its title, seeing as how Grimes is reportedly in discussions with CBS for a procedural-leaning spinoff focusing squarely on Kayce.

As we wait to learn whether or not that title turns out to be legitimate, let's take a look at the titles of Taylor Sheridan's other original TV projects.

It's wild that these projects followed the more memorable titles from his cinematic screenplays such as Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Those Who Wish Me Dead. Perhaps the new spinoff will be revealed to have a completely different name, like Family-Owned Land Parcel.

Here's hoping the Dutton Ranch premiere date comes sooner rather than later, with or without an official name change also included. In the meantime, Yellowstone can be streamed in full with a Peacock subscription.

When 1923 came to a close on the 2025 TV schedule, we got a pretty definitive end to this chapter in the Duttons’ story. We also got a great set up for what could be the next upcoming Yellowstone show, 1944. So, I had to ask Michelle Randolph and Darren Mann about how they could potentially be involved in this next project, seeing as it will likely follow their direct descendants, and I hope Taylor Sheridan is taking notes.

Even Though Jack Is Dead, Darren Mann Has An Idea For How He Could Be In 1944

Now, this story starts at the very end of my interview with Darren Mann about 1923’s lethal sixth episode. After seeing Jack Dutton tragically die, I told the actor who plays him that I was “sincerely bummed” he was gone. I also joked that I’d like to see him “come back as a ghost or something.” In response, he told me:

Now, while we were laughing about this, I actually kind of love the idea. Let’s not forget that the cast confirmed that Spencer and Alex’s son John might not be the grandfather of Kevin Costner’s John in Yellowstone. Elizabeth was also pregnant, and it’s fully possible that she had a son named John, too. And you know what? Darren Mann would be the perfect person to play him if this is indeed the case.

Jack is dead, so he can’t play him. So, why can’t he play his kid?

Michelle Randolph Is Ready To Play An Older Elizabeth In 1944

Michelle Randolph is in a slightly different position than her on-screen husband. Elizabeth survived a brutal 1923 winter and the battle in the finale, so, in theory, she could come back in 1944.

While Elizabeth did leave the ranch after Jack’s death, I could see a future where she returns. So, after my conversation with Mann, I told Randolph what he said and asked if she wanted to reprise her role in 1944 or if she had actresses in mind who could do it. In response, she said:

In 1923, Elizabeth and Jack are young and newly married. It’s also revealed that Spencer, Jack’s uncle, lived until 1969. That implies that Elizabeth could also live on for decades after the events of 1923 and return in 1944 as her character, who would likely be in her 40s.

So, it’d probably be quite easy to have Randolph reprise the role and wear a few prosthetics.

While thinking about this, I considered how Mandy Moore played Rebecca through her entire life in This is Us with great success and prosthetics. I could totally see the Yellowstone universe doing something like this, too, especially if the cast is down for it, and Randolph clearly is.

Overall, this all seems very possible, too. For example, 1944 could have some serious character overlap with 1923 because of folks like Spencer and maybe Elizabeth. Plus, there are plenty of ways to bring other actors back, too. As Daren Mann said, he could play a new character. Also, Isabel May proved this by doing voice-over as Elsa in 1923 and Yellowstone following her death in 1883.

So, Taylor Sheridan, let’s get these actors back in the Yellowstone universe, please, and thank you.

In the Season 2 finale of 1923, there is a ton of jaw-dropping action (the train station and ranch fights) and reveals (Alex’s baby being named John). However, I’d argue that the most badass moment of this whole episode came after Spencer Dutton killed Donald Whitfield and then walked out of his burning house next to Jacob Dutton. So, obviously, I had to ask Brandon Sklenar what it was like to film such an epic moment with Harrison Ford, and he compared it to Die Hard and John Wick.

As the finale aired on the 2025 TV schedule, and I watched this scene specifically for the first time, I couldn’t help but think about some of the best action movies and moments where characters walk away from an explosion or a burning building without looking back at it. It turns out, Sklenar couldn’t either, as he understandably likened this scene to Die Hard and John Wick, telling me:

It feels important to note that the fact that John McClane is nicknamed Mr. Cowboy by Hans Gruber in Die Hard makes this even better.

Plus, in a lot of ways, Sepncer’s absolute annihilation of everyone trying to take down his family reminded me a lot of Bruce Willis' iconic movie and his characters’ actions in it. So, the walk out of the burning building after killing Whitfield was the cherry on top, and it 100% gave big Die Hard and John Wick energy.

Sklenar also loved filming this scene because it paid homage to iconic action films and, you know, he got to do it with Harrison Ford, as he explained:

While Bruce Willis and Keanu Reeves are action heroes Sklenar specifically mentioned, let’s not forget that Harrison Ford is at the center of the Indiana Jones films and Star Wars movies. So, not only did the Drop actor get to play out a classic action moment, he also got to do it with a bonafide action star.

He was very aware of that too, gushing about the Shrinking actor while he told me about filming this epic instance.

At one point while filming the scene where Spencer and Jacob walk out of the burning house, Slkenar said he and Ford just kept walking and walking toward the cameras without stopping. Then, at one point, his co-star told him to make a run for it:

Well that story just makes this whole entire situation even better. While they looked totally badass in the moment, I’m maybe even more obsessed with how much fun the seemed to be having while shooting it.

There’s no denying that these action-packed and death-filled episodes of 1923 have been epic and done on a grand scale, and this scene specifically is a great example of that. So, yeah, I can see why the real Mr. Cowboy compared it to Die Hard’s Mr. Cowboy and other beloved action flicks.

Any time a big character dies on a show, it’s emotional and a lot to take in. However, trying to grapple with seven (yes, SEVEN) deaths in one episode is almost incomprehensible. But here I am, aghast and trying to fathom it all after that explosive 1923 episode aired on the 2025 TV schedule.

Thankfully, I had the chance to chat about these developments with four of the actors who play now-dead characters. However, I was even more surprised to learn that these members of the 1923 cast also didn’t know their deaths were coming until they read the script for the first time.

Michael Spears Found Out About Runs His Horse’s Fate When He Read The Script

In preparation for this lethal episode of 1923, I had the chance to interview Michael Spears and Jeremy Gauna, who play Runs His Horse and Pete Plenty Clouds, respectively. They both met their ends in this episode, leaving Aminah Nieves' Teonna, once again, with no one.

When I asked how they reacted to their fates and if they learned about them before getting the script, Spears – whose character was shot by Father Renaud – revealed this to me:

I love that perspective on the situation, and he later told me he wanted to "leave it all on the prairie."

However, I can’t get over the fact that they weren’t given a warning in advance. So, like us, they had to find out organically as the story unfolded. And learning about it that way was cause for reactions that involved all sorts of emotions.

Jeremy Gauna Told Me Why He Felt ‘Anger,’ ‘Sadness,’ ‘Joy’ And ‘Greatful’ When He Found Out His Character Died

For Jeremy Gauna, there was an extra weight on him to play Pete, which added to how he felt when learning his character’s fate. Initially, Pete was played by Cole Brings Plenty; however, after his death in April 2024, Gauna stepped into the role. With that in mind, he told me this about finding out about his character’s fate:

Pete did go out in an epic fashion, after a horse chase and a shootout. Gauna told me that filming that was incredible, and ultimately learning about it all while reading the script allowed him to really give it his all. Reiterating Spears' point, he said:

Both Gauna and Spears made it abundantly clear that they were saddened by their characters’ fates, and like me, didn’t know their deaths were coming. That shocked me, and it continued to astound me as I learned that the Dutton we lost also didn’t know his demise was coming…

Darren Mann Didn’t Know Jack’s Fate, And Told Me About The Future He’d Imagined His Character

I asked Darren Mann about Jack’s shocking and quick death that involved him being shot by men he thought he could trust. In response, he told me he “didn’t know what happened” before reading the script.

However, he did note that he was aware that “a lot of people die in” Taylor Sheridan’s shows. While he knew he was “playing roulette with four or five bullets in the chamber,” he also had fantasized about his character’s future, telling me:

Considering all the questions about the Dutton lineage and Jack’s potential role in it, his death was particularly shocking. I was also deeply surprised to learn Mann wasn’t warned in advance. He told me he was “all the emotions” when he found out because he loves his character so much:

I was sad too, because I love this Dutton, and I’m disappointed we’ll never get to see him meet his child or reunite with his uncle, Spencer (assuming he makes it home). However, 1923’s winters are harsh, the people are ruthless, the world of Yellowstone is brutal, and not everyone can make it out alive.

Sebastian Roché Also Found Out When He Got The Script, But Knew His Character Would Eventually Meet An ‘Untimely Demise’

While the three aforementioned deaths and the deaths of the two people driving Alex were truly tragic, the demises of Marshal Kent and Father Renaud, who were traveling together, weren’t. In fact, I’d been waiting to see how they’d be taken down.

To that point, Sebastian Roché, who plays Father Renaud, knew his character’s death would happen eventually. However, he didn’t find out how he’d go down until he got the script for Episode 6:

His death was pretty epic. After a fight with Teonna that involved burning coals, stabbing and a few gunshots, he went out with a literal (and deserved) bang. Teonna is finally free of this evil being, and she can move into a new chapter of her life, and as Roché said, it was “a fitting end” to this arc.

Overall, this episode of 1923 was jaw-dropping, epic and lethal. What’s even more shocking is that the cast had to learn about it in basically the same way we did. Now, I’m sitting on pins and needles waiting to find out what will happen (and who might die) in next Sunday’s season finale - because if this episode proved anything, it’s that no one is safe.
