One of the best movies of the 2000s, in my humble opinion, has to be The Devil Wears Prada. That's not only because of the comedy flick’s stellar cast but also because of its high emphasis on fashion, which would make anyone rethink their wardrobe. There's so much to take in when it comes to the film's outfits. Interestingly enough, when its lead, Anne Hathaway, first saw the book-to-film adaptation in theaters, spotted one fashion moment that initially didn’t catch her eye amid filming.

Anne Hathaway recently spoke to Elle for a wide-ranging interview about her career. During the chat, the Oscar winner couldn’t help but reflect on the “beetle-green” dress her DWP character, Andy, wore when she went to Paris Fashion Week with her boss, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Hathaway recalled how beautiful the outfit looked when the light hit it. Yet what apparently alluded Hathaway was a more subtle detail involving both her and Streep's characters. Here’s what she discovered:

That’s absolutely true! What made The Devil Wears Prada one of the funniest fish-out-of-water movies is that Andy initially has no true affection for the fashion world or being fashionable herself. However, when she wants to impress Miranda, she gets a total makeover by trading in her loafers for Chanel boots. In time, Andy seems like she’s ready to walk the runway herself.

So it makes a lot of sense that by the time Andy gets to go to Paris Fashion Week with Miranda, she’s subconsciously morphing into her icy Runway editor as evidenced by her sporting a similar look to hers. The film’s costume designer truly showed that fashion truly can speak volumes about a character’s identity and how a person's wardrobe can subtly reflect their personality change.

In The Devil Wears Prada’s long-awaited sequel, which set 20 years later, Andy and Miranda are on better terms. Following the characters' initial boss-assistant tension, the sequel provided one wish fans had — for the two to look at each other as equals.

Andy returns to Runway as its Features Editor in order to help save the publication. Ultimately, Miranda places trust in her former assistant like never before and even grants her permission for her tell-all book about the Runway editor. Not to mention, Andy’s fashionista wardrobe change prevents Miranda prevents Miranda from once again telling her ex-assistant she has “no sense of style.” After watching the dramedy follow-up, it's easy to see why Miranda and Andy are a great movie duo, in that they care about the power of journalism and shaping stories that matter.

It’s amazing when actresses like Anne Hathaway pick up on meaningful details in their own films after watching them back. By noticing Andy and Miranda wore a similar fashion look towards the conclusion of The Devil Wears Prada, she was able to see how much her character was starting to morph into Miranda, compared to being her own person. And, for the viewing public, I'd argue that a subtle, yet cool, detail like this is a testament to the importance of movie rewatches.

But what happens when one of the cast members of the popular musical is actually in attendance when one of those catchy songs drops? Meryl Streep experienced it while attending John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s wedding, and her reaction sounds like it was priceless.

Blunt and Krasinski’s relationship kicked off back in 2008 after Krasinski was already “obsessed” with The Devil Wears Prada. Two years after their rom-com-like meeting, they tied the knot at George Clooney’s estate in Lake Como, Italy, back in July 2010. While it was certainly a star-studded affair – with the likes of Matt Damon, Stanley Tucci and Clooney in attendance – apparently everyone was really “freaking out” over Meryl Streep being there. Here’s a funny story about one thing that happened, according to Blunt:

The anecdote came up on Jimmy Kimmel Live since the host had been at the wedding, too. Meryl Streep sounds like she was an amazing sport about the whole thing, but ultimately dancing to a song from her own movie sounds like it might have been a bit embarrassing for her.

No matter, Krasinski and Blunt’s moms have the best wedding story, and it’s kind of perfect given the movie is called Mamma Mia after all! I wonder if anyone in the Blunt and Krasinki family has pictures of the moms dancing with Streep in one of their homes?

Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt met while making 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada when Blunt was just 22 years old. The actress has previously recalled being very nervous about starring in the movie alongside the Oscar winner, but when she gave a “little chortle” at one of her line deliveries during the table read, it gave her the reassurance she needed.

Streep and Blunt recently got to reunite as their The Devil Wears Prada characters for the sequel, which was a smash hit at the box office. The movie has made $610 million globally in the past month against a reported production budget of $100 million. Worldwide, it’s the No. 5 highest-grossing movie of the year so far.

Blunt has another film on the 2026 movie release calendar on the way in June in the form of Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day. It hits theaters on June 12.

It kind of felt like everyone was in The Devil Wears Prada 2. From fashion icons to athletes to musicians and more, the list of cameos is long and legendary. However, one name I didn’t expect to be connected to this project on the 2026 movie schedule was George Clooney. However, he is, in fact, featured in this film (sort of), and now he’s shared his thoughts on his special cameo.

While George Clooney isn't in The Devil Wears Prada 2, his villa on Lake Como can be seen. That’s how he makes a cameo in this legacy sequel, and someone finally asked him about it. He, of course, had a cheeky and fun response, as he told Access Hollywood:

For context about this cameo, a portion of The Devil Wears Prada 2 takes place at Lake Como. Specifically, Andy (Anne Hathaway) and Emily (Emily Blunt) travel there to have business talks about the future of Runway. According to People, you can see Clooney’s villa during the scene where Andy and Emily are riding to their destination in a boat.

Going back to Clooney’s reaction, the interviewer asked him if this all holds special significance. That's because Emily Blunt, one of the stars of The Devil Wears Prada 2, and her and John Krasinski’s love story includes the fact that they got married at Clooney’s house.

The couple tied the knot in 2010, so the home making a cameo in this movie has even more significance. Speaking to that point, his love for that house and his friendship with Krasinski and Blunt, the Ocean’s Eleven star said:

This interview happened before the film came out. However, now I'm thrilled to report that the sequel certainly was fun to see, and both critics and audiences agreed. The Devil Wears Prada 2 got solid reviews, and it was a box office success. Now, I really hope Clooney enjoyed it too. I also hope he was able to spot his house.

Really, just when you thought The Devil Wears Prada 2 couldn’t fit one more celebrity cameo in, it managed to in a very unique way. Before the movie came out, reports about celeb appearances in this film were running rampant. Then, once it officially hit the big screen, we got to see folks like Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Karl-Anthony Towns, Naomi Campbell, Jenna Bush Hager, Heidi Klum and so many more make appearances.

Now, we can add George Clooney…or, well, his house, to that list too. And it’s a worthy addition, because his Lake Como villa is very iconic and well-known.

So, with that being said, you can see the star-studded cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and the Out of Sight actor’s villa by catching the legacy sequel in theaters now. Then, let’s all start hoping that if The Devil Wears Prada 3 ever happens, we can actually get George Clooney to appear in the film.

After it was revealed that The Devil Wears Prada was getting a sequel, fans had a lot of questions about what was ahead for the characters. Given the franchise's emphasis on fine clothes, it seemed like a given that Andy, Miranda, Emily, and Nigel would be in the New York fashion scene. But, when the first trailer for the anticipated sequel came out, I was left scratching my head regarding one detail about Andy. Fortunately, lead actress Anne Hathaway has provided some clarity on that.

The last time we saw Andy Sachs, she decided she was done with being Miranda Priestly’s abiding assistant at Runway and headed to an interview with Mirror magazine. But, 20 years later, the trailer for DWP2 revealed that Andy was back working at Runway! I thought she decided to move on from fashion journalism and discover more of her niche. When Anne Hathaway spoke with Elle, she recalled how she was “obsessively” wondering about Andy's return to the brand, before reaching a conclusion:

Well, that makes sense. Those familiar with The Devil Wears Prada’s iconic quotes, surely know Miranda gives her iconic speech about the importance of the fashion industry as well as its designers making clothes for the masses. With a magazine like Runway, readers like Andy are shown that they’re already part of the fashion world and how the clothes they wear help shape their identity. So, all in all, Andy understands the importance of the business and is willing to return to her roots if necessary.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 sheds light on Andy having became a serious journalist in New York City, like she always wanted. But, when her entire newsroom is laid off and Runway needs their reputation saved after a controversial puff piece, the head of Runway’s parent company recruits Andy to return to save the magazine.

However, it’s important to know that Andy did not come back in the belittling position of taking orders from Miranda again. With all of the experience Andy acquired throughout her two-decade-long journalism career, she became Runway’s Features Editor. That’s how you climb up the ladder of success!

It was a genuine relief for me to see Andy come back in a leadership position. I’d have been really disappointed if she reverted to being the passive assistant again, which ultimately made her unhappy. And, with her return, she's taken more seriously by the staff, and even her huge wardrobe change exudes the character's greater sense of confidence. Even if Miranda initially acts as if she's forgotten Andy, viewers know even she is starting to see her former assistant in a whole new light.

Yes, it was initially jarring to consider that Andy would return to Runaway after her initial stint, but I applaud Anne Hathaway and the film's creative team for putting so much thought into all. Ultimately, what fans see is Andy transition from a nervous editor’s assistant to a powerhouse features editor. Maybe if Hathaway does decide to take on a third movie, we could see Andy even running Runway if Miranda decided to retire.

As you likely know, The Devil Wears Prada movies are loosely based on books by Lauren Weisberger, who was once an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. So ever since they’ve been out, there’s been question about whether Wintour was offended by Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley character. According to Anne Hathaway, the fashion icon has long been a very good sport about the whole thing.

Before The Devil Wears Prada hit theaters in 2006, Meryl Streep recently revealed that the production actually had difficulty landing designer clothes because the industry was scared to be affiliated with a movie that could take shots at the Vogue boss. However, as Hathaway further proved in a recent interview with Popcast, she handled the whole thing commendably. In her words:

This conversation is coming back up because The Devil Wears Prada 2 was just among 2026 movie releases. During the press tour, Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour actually did a joint cover for Vogue, showing that Wintour is A-OK with being associated with the comedy franchise. As Hathaway also added:

Anna Wintour has been complimentary to the film in other comments of hers as well. She said that she “found it highly enjoyable and very funny” when she first saw The Devil Wears Prada and called it a “fair shot.” When it came to the sequel’s release, she said she was excited for it because it “represents how important the world of fashion is”.

It also should be pointed out that while the book may be directly inspired by Wintour, Meryl Streep didn’t aim to embody the Vogue editor-in-chief. The Oscar winner actually based her performance on directors Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood, since they were both bosses she had that had a specific “command on the set” that stuck with her.

Now, when some of her former assistants have been asked how much Miranda Priestley is like Anna Wintour, one said “Yes, with an asterisk” while another said “there are shades” but it’s “sort of a different thing.” Ultimately, it sounds like there’s a bit of truth to the portrayal and some expected movie dramatization between Anna and Miranda. And the fact that Anna Wintour has not only seen the movie, but become friends with the cast and even endorsed the movies in her own ways, goes to show that the movie didn’t burn any bridges as a result of its existence. We love to see it!

The Devil Wears Prada has gone down in history as a very quotable movie. But as you can imagine, there was some workshopping on set before it became the film that we know and love. Amidst The Devil Wears Prada 2 being among recent 2026 movie releases, Emily Blunt revealed how one of Stanley Tucci’s big lines was almost much different.

The script is full of incredibly witty dialogue that makes it so memorable, but you can’t forget Stanley Tucci’s entrance right before Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley makes hers. Check out what Emily Blunt had to say about it:

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Blunt revealed that there were multiple alternates of Tucci’s beloved “gird your loins” – including one where he said “tits in” instead. Blunt, who was 22 at the time and was in her second movie ever, just couldn’t keep it together after Tucci said that version of the line to the office of Runway employees.

While it’s honestly quite effective and probably would have been quoted if they went with “tits in,” there’s something about gird your loins that’s just perfect. As she added:

It sounds like Emily Blunt was having a blast on the set of The Devil Wears Prada and trying really hard to play her dry character whilst she was finding herself giggling with her costars. It’s good these two hit things off on the set, because at The Devil Wears Prada premiere back in the day, Tucci met Blunt’s older sister Felicity. They would then reconnect at Emily Blunt and John Krasinski’s wedding in 2010, starting to date and they got married themselves two years later.

“Gird your loins” isn’t the only famous line that was changed on set. One of Meryl Streep’s famous lines where she said “everybody wants to be us” was originally supposed to be “everyone wants to be me” after the actress felt that Miranda wouldn’t be “very vain” and the character had a sense of “it’s about this world.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has quickly become one of the most successful 2026 movie releases in the last couple of weeks. As it has already surpassed $326 million at the worldwide box office following its No. 1 debut at the top of the month, it’s no surprise conversations about a threequel are reportedly being had. But, allegedly, Anne Hathaway is the one pushing the brakes on another movie happening.

Following The Devil Wears Prada 2 being such a win, scooper Rob Shuter is saying that studio executives are already “eager” to get a third movie on the books. However, Anne Hathaway needs some convincing about another sequel. Per one insider:

Per the report, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are “enthusiastic” about a third movie, but Hathaway is a lot more hesitant. Apparently, this has to do with the backlash the actress previously dealt with after winning her Oscar for Les Misérables back in 2013, in an era that was known as “Hathahate”. As a second insider shared:

Anne Hathaway is having a massive 2026, considering she’s the star of five movies this year. Two have already come out in the form of Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada, 2 and she has three more premiering in the coming months: The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street and Verity. Here’s what another insider told Shuter about Hathaway and The Devil Wears Prada 3:

The cast of The Devil Wears Prada previously told People that they’d be open to a third movie should there be a good script and “the core four” from the franchise (meaning Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci) all say yes.

It’s no surprise that 20th Century Studios would want another sequel after The Devil Wears Prada 2’s hit release. So far, the movie has earned $446 million globally against a reported $100 million production budget – skirting way past the original movie’s total earnings of $326 million worldwide. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year!

The movie has also earned acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Some highlights of the movie we’ve been talking about here on CinemaBlend are the savage way Miranda says “That’s all” again, the sweet moment for Stanley Tucci’s Nigel that broke our hearts, and Justin Theroux’s hilarious character Benji.

While Anne Hathaway is apparently unsure about The Devil Wears Prada 3 right now, one of the sources says that “nobody believes” Hathaway will never budge on a sequel, she just wants a reason to come back to Andy Sachs again that “actually matters.” Time will tell if another movie set in the fashion world will come to pass. Until then, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now playing in theaters.

Many were excited when it was officially that The Devil Wears Prada would be made and would reunite director David Frankel with members of the original cast.. Key talent like Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all reprised their roles (and did so effortlessly, might I say). However, one Devil Wears Prada cast member, Adrian Grenier, didn’t make the cut, and Frankel got real about whether Grenier's character, Nate, was ever going to appear.

It goes without saying that fans have had mixed takes on Adrian Grenier's Nate, the now-former boyfriend to Anne Hathaway's Andy Sachs. Despite that, many seemed to express interest in the possibility of Nate showing up again. Ultimately, Frankel got honest with Variety, explaining how much thought was truly put into a potential appearance from Nate in his 2026 movie schedule entry:

I absolutely agree with David Frankel that it wouldn’t make sense for Nate to return in the sequel. In the dramedy flick, Andy returns to Runway as she takes on the Features editor position and tries to save the publication from going under. Way back when, Nate mocked the fashion world and Andy’s role in it, so the notion of him remaining with Andy at this point would be a real head-scratcher. And, even if Nate did appear as Andy's ex, I'm not sure an appearance from her former beau would've organically fit into the sequel's story.

In the years since TDWP came out, many debated whether Nate was a truly despicable romantic partner. He certainly does serve as something of a heel throughout the movie (which is streaming on your HBO Max subscription). Ultimately, though, the character's purpose is to was to help represent how Andy evolves throughout the film, especially after she becomes Miranda Priestly’s assistant.

Some contemporary viewers of Prada have also started to see things more from Andy’s perspective of wanting a boyfriend who’s supportive of his girlfriend’s rise in the workplace and her interests. Meanwhile, The Devil Wears Prada’s screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, understood the hate for Andy’s boyfriend, but also defended the character for attempting to be a moral compass for her.

Anne Hathaway also shared mixed feelings whether Nate was a true villain, as she felt that both he and Andy acted like “brats” and that such behavior shouldn't be held against two people in their 20s. That's certainly a fair argument compared to pointing fingers at either character.

Interestingly, Frankel also recently said to Variety that on the off chance a threequel happens, he wouldn't be opposed to revisiting Nate. On that note, when Adrian Grenier was asked about his supposed “villain” role in the first movie, he said he’d like a spinoff movie focusing on his character's current exploits.

Whether there's a market for such a spinoff is unclear, but what seems evident is that Grenier is having fun (and making money) off his Prada 2 omission. Check out his hilarious Starbucks commercial below:

I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't at least be interesting to get a sense of where Nate is today but, having seen The Devil Wears Prada 2, I don't think it's any worse off for not having him. Still, there's always the chance that a third movie brings Adrian Grenier's character back for one reason or another. For now, check out the TDWP2 in theaters now.

I had a lot of hopes and a few expectations going into The Devil Wears Prada 2, but when it came to new additions to the cast, I was mostly just curious as to how they'd fit in. Turns out, there was one character in the 2026 movie that totally caught me off guard -- mostly in a good way. While the 2026 sequel brought many of the main characters from the original film back, there were some notable cast additions this time around, including Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, Lucy Liu, Rachel Bloom, and Kenneth Branagh, all of whom were fantastic. However, it was Justin Theroux's goofy billionaire Benji Barnes who threw me for a loop.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 spoilers ahead!

"I can't believe there's someone named Candle." - Benji

Despite being massively successful financially, billionaire Benji really doesn't come off as the brightest guy, though he has no shortage of thoughts and opinions to share. He's clearly a fish-out-of-water on Emily's arm (more on that situation in a minute), standing out in his attempts to mingle with the glamorous fashion people, but I'm not going to fault him for that. As someone who would also struggle socially at formal galas and glitzy fashion shows, no judgment from me there. It's the stuff that comes out of Benji's mouth -- and Theroux's bold delivery of those lines -- that had me laughing out loud.

Like when he thought they were talking about someone named "Candle" when the name Kendall (presumably Jenner) came up in conversation. Or how he explained that he was running on an "aqua deficit" by abstaining from drinking water. And then there was the opinion he confidently shared about why they should be sending people to explore the sun instead of Mars. To the sun. On a ship called Icarus. When Emily attempted to explain the moral of the mythological Greek character's disastrous attempt to reach the sun, he promptly shut her down.

"I just like him like a bar of soap." - Emily

Theroux's character is revealed to be dating Emily, which is one of the ways he fits into the story. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part, having adored Emily by the end of the first movie, but some part of me hoped she and Benji would turn out to be couple goals, and that her relationship with the recently divorced billionaire was evidence that she was doing pretty ok for herself.

They seemed smitten with each other from the moment we learned they were together, but with each scene that followed, it became increasingly clear that the foundation of this romance was pretty superficial. While he showed Emily his affection with his wallet, purchasing lavish jewelry and trying to purchase Runway during their trip to Italy, Emily's form of affection seemed to focus on her insistent contributions toward his ongoing physical transformation. If ever anyone were to admire Benji's lack of ear hair (or body hair), they'd apparently have Emily to thank.

"The future just comes rushing at us like... well, like the lava of Pompeii." - Benji

Though Benji appeared to exist in the movie predominantly as comic relief, he turned out to be a major obstacle after we learned Emily and Andy were scheming to get him to buy Runway. It seemed like a good idea from Andy's point of view until she found out Emily and Miranda had unresolved conflict over Miranda's role in Emily's departure from Runway. As it turns out, the former assistant's part in this whole scheme wasn't to help Miranda, but to defeat her. Once that info came to light, it was clear that Benji owning Runway was going to be a total disaster, not just for Miranda, who would be ousted, but also for the magazine's future.

Fortunately, the rug got pulled out from under Benji and Emily before that could happen, but this close-call was a startling reminder of how someone with a lot of money and no shortage of terrible ideas can really throw a wrench in things. Fortunately, Andy and Miranda managed to encourage Sasha Barnes (Lucy Liu) to buy Elias Clarke, a purchase that included Runway. Benji's Runway purchase fell apart, as did his relationship with Emily, which was just as well. Emily clearly still has room to grow, but she seems to realize that, so I think she's better off without him.

In the meantime, claps for Justin Theroux for bringing so much goofiness to his character. His nonsensical, often out-of-place comments were one of the things I loved most about The Devil Wears Prada 2. Of course, when I wasn't laughing, I was feeling especially emotional over that heartbreaking scene involving Miranda and Nigel, and I'm with Riley in reeling over that savage callback to the first movie with one line from Miranda.

With the movie only recently coming to theaters, it'll probably be a little bit before we can see it available on the list of new movies streaming, but I can't wait to watch it again when it is!

The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters a week ago as part of the 2026 movie schedule and absolutely smashed the box office. This comes as no surprise, given the original cast, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, all returned for the sequel. Fans have been craving a follow-up to the 2000s classic for years, and I know it's been a while since the first Devil Wears Prada. But Stanley Tucci recently made a comment about working with Emily Blunt that made me realize just how much time has passed.

The red carpet at The Devil Wears Prada 2’s New York premiere was more than just a celebration–it was a proper runway. After brutally bashing their red carpet looks from 2006, the core four redeemed themselves, with Anne Hathaway in a stunning satin red Louis Vuitton dress and Emily Blunt in a huge pink couture Schiaparelli gown. Fashion is certainly a clear visual indicator of how much time has passed between the two movies, but I’m actually more struck by Stanley Tucci telling Entertainment Tonight what made him nostalgic on the set of TDWP 2:

It took me a second to digest this sentence, too, don’t worry. I know it’s been 20 years since The Devil Wears Prada came out, but hearing it put in terms of age really has me shook. At the time of the original movie’s premiere, Tucci’s oldest child, Isabel Tucci, was only 6 years old. Now she’s 26, four years older than Emily Blunt was when she first worked with The Hunger Games actor.

I don’t think I realized how young both Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt were in The Devil Wears Prada. Both Oscar-nominated actresses were only 23 years old when they originated their roles as Miranda Priestly’s assistants, Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton. As one of the best movies of the 2000s, it was The Smashing Machine actress’s breakthrough role, although it had a somewhat stagnating effect on Tucci’s buzzing career.

Though they did not work together again on a movie until this sequel, Blunt and the Conclave actor have remained very close friends, although calling her an aunt to his children is more than just a term of endearment.

For those unaware, Tucci got remarried a few years after his wife died to none other than Emily Blunt’s sister, Felicity Blunt. The lovebirds first met at the original Devil Wears Prada premiere in 2006, and were reintroduced at the Jungle Cruise actress’s wedding to John Krasinski in 2010. Despite a 21-year age gap between Tucci and Felicity Blunt, the two have been married for nearly 15 years, and share two kids together, in addition to Tucci’s three kids from his marriage with the late Kate Tucci.

Saying a lot has changed in the two decades between The Devil Wears Prada and its successful new sequel is a bit of an understatement, but all that matters is that all parties involved seem very happy. Both the Quiet Place actress and The Lovely Bones actor expressed how happy they were to work together again, although Blunt did say spending so much time with her brother-in-law and his cooking was not good for her couture diet.

My only wish, and it seems I share this sentiment with the Easy A actor, is that they shared more screen time together. Perhaps in another 20 years…

I went into The Devil Wears Prada 2 as a fan of the original movie, hoping the new 2026 film would measure up to its 2006 predecessor. What I genuinely didn't expect was to find myself brimming with emotion at any point, but it happened, and of all of the people to trigger it... Miranda Priestly? Leave it to Meryl Streep to make that happen.

It's at this point that I offer a spoiler warning, as I can't explain what scene made me well up with emotion without at least a few The Devil Wears Prada 2 spoilers. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I do recommend catching a screening at a theater near you. Based on the opening weekend box office, plenty of people already have, but if you need more takes on the film, see what the critics are saying.

Among the numerous callbacks to the original film is the reminder of how close Nigel (Stanley Tucci) came to partnering with James Holt (Daniel Sunjata) on a major business venture toward the end of The Devil Wears Prada, until Miranda (Meryl Streep) changed up the plan at the last second to secure her own foothold on Runway.

Sadly, when Andy (Anne Hathaway) brought this situation up to Nigel in the sequel, he didn't seem to remember it at first, because it turns out that wasn't the last time Miranda had done something like that. In the case of the James Holt situation, as I interpreted it, it wasn't like Miranda was intentionally trying to hurt her right-hand man – she was the one to put him up for that opportunity, after all – but he was absolutely a casualty of her machinations, and it had to hurt. At the time, Nigel's response to Andy was to say, "When the time is right, she'll pay me back," though he could only hope that was true.

Here we are, twenty years later, and Nigel's clearly experienced more ups and downs in his relationship with Miranda. Ever faithful to her, Nigel had stood off to the side of the Runway leader for years, and it turns out, Miranda was blind to one major aspiration. It also seems clear from what happened with Emily – we learn that Miranda pushed her out of Runway by finding her another job – that she has a tendency to justify some of her manipulative behavior when it affects the people she cares about, as long as they come out of it ok. Of course, the people affected understandably don't always see it that way.

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, after Andy learned that Nigel actually wouldn't mind spending a little time in the spotlight, she relayed that information to Miranda when the perfect opportunity arose. This is near the end of the movie, when Miranda and Andy have to jet off before Miranda's able to deliver the keynote speech in Milan. When Andy suggests that Nigel do it, Miranda is at first dismissive of the idea, certain he wouldn't want to. After Andy suggests otherwise, Miranda seems stricken, and this is where I started to feel really emotional.

Streep's delivery of this line as Miranda looks ahead at where Nigel is standing broke my heart, and I'm still thinking about it. It's like she just realized she's missed something so completely obvious and feels awful about it. It's a redeeming moment for Miranda, for sure, and it only gets better now that she has a way to make it up to him.

For years, she's assumed incorrectly that Nigel was happy to be more of a behind-the-scenes person, and it somehow never occurred to her to consider otherwise. Maybe it's because Nigel genuinely does seem happy to work behind the scenes and literally walk behind Miranda when they're out in public, for the most part, but that doesn't mean he doesn't also want to step into the spotlight once in a while and receive the respect and recognition he's undoubtedly owed. It was a grave misjudgment on Miranda's part not to consider that sooner, and it's all over her face and in her voice when she realizes it.

Thinking back to the way Miranda's actions burned Nigel in the first movie -- one of the sadder notes for the story's ending -- I loved seeing Miranda recognize that she had something so major all wrong, and then seizing the opportunity to make it right and honor her friend. As much as it broke my heart to see her realization, it also filled it with joy to see her admit her mistake and make things right. I really think this might've been my favorite part in the whole movie.

Were Andy’s boyfriend and friends the real villains of The Devil Wears Prada? For years now, there’s been a large camp of people who would say yes. Plus, now that the sequel is out on the 2026 movie schedule, it’s a debate I’ve been thinking about more and more. So, when I had the chance to interview Tracie Thoms, who plays Andy’s best friend Lily, I had to get her take on this very popular discourse.

According to Thoms, this all started “probably about 10 years ago.” She explained during an interview with CinemaBlend that articles about why people don’t like Andy’s boyfriend and friends started circulating, and since then it hasn’t really stopped:

It really did catch on like wildfire, and it's persisted for years. So, with that in mind, the actress from The Devil Wears Prada cast decided to try to watch the movie (which you can do with a Disney+ subscription) with this perspective. Here is the conclusion she came to:

I think she’s right; since the great 2000s movie was released, the world has changed, and people’s perspectives on work and friendship have evolved. So, from that standpoint, I can also see why so many do not love Andy’s friends.

However, Thoms explained that their actions were warranted, and it’s not like Andy was being a good friend either:

The actress went on to say that people have walked up to her and told her they “hated” her in the movie. When she asked “Why,” they’d bring up the fact that she took the purse from Andy. However, Thom's argument is that she really didn’t take the purse; Anne Hathaway's character gave it to her. Plus “Andy was not upholding her end of the friendship,” and she missed Nate's birthday for work.

That led the Rent star to reiterate the point that Andy “did not like that job” at Runway, and it’s important for her to have friends who “call her out sometimes.” To that point, I think she’s right. Hathaway’s character changes for the worse during her time at the magazine, and I can’t say I blame her friends for acting the way they did when she was not being a good friend to them.

This discussion ties right into a conversation Tracie Thoms had with Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer of The Devil Wears Prada and its sequel, as the 9-1-1 actress recalled:

Thoms went on to explain that it truly was the friends’ job to say “‘You’re becoming the person that you said you didn’t like.’” So, does that make them the villain? The answer is complex, and the actress does understand both sides of the argument. However, she also noted that the idea that characters like Lily are bad is “very, very, very strong,” and when she’s asked people to defend that take, “they don’t really have an answer.”

However, over the years, the debate has persisted, and it’s something she’s talked to both Rich Sommer, who played Doug, and Adrian Grenier, who played Nate, about. She brought that up as we were talking about Lily and Andy’s friendship in the sequel, saying:

It must be overwhelming to get this reaction from fans, especially after so many years. However, Thoms has a very clear and level perspective on it all as well as a passionate defense of her character’s actions.

Plus, Lily proves to be a fantastic friend in The Devil Wears Prada 2, as well, which you can see in theaters right now.

For a movie franchise built around fashion, there are obviously a ton of incredible looks in The Devil Wears Prada 2, but not all of them could make the final cut. Scenes come and go in editing all the time, but when the scene takes your favorite outfit with it, as it did for the 2026 movie calendar release’s star Anne Hathaway, it's a tiny couture tragedy. The actress shared how her favorite Prada look was cut, but luckily survived after paparazzi captured it during filming.

While speaking with People at the film’s European premiere in London on April 22, Hathaway revealed that her favorite look from the long-awaited sequel did not survive the final edit. According to her, the missing look was “a Phoebe Philo T-shirt, train thing,” which you can see for yourself below.

Hathaway’s description of the outfit was both deeply specific and somehow not specific at all. Even she seemed to know it was a hard outfit to explain in normal human language. Trying to describe it, she said:

That description feels right for The Devil Wears Prada and its follow-up. Some outfits are dresses. Some are coats. Some are simply garments beyond human language. And though the actress said she told director David Frankel it was her favorite outfit, only for him to call her before she had seen the movie and break the news, with a simple “It’s gone.” Hathaway had a pretty perfect response:

Hathaway was photographed wearing the Phoebe Philo look while filming in New York City in July 2025, meaning fans still got to see Andy Sachs take it for a spin. The ensemble includes a white T-shirt with a flowing train, white cropped pants, matching white pointy-toe shoes, black sunglasses, a black shoulder bag and a chunky necklace. In the age of set photo leaks, does any major Devil Wears Prada outfit ever really disappear?

The sequel finds Andy in a much different place than she was in the 2006 original, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 picks up with the character as an award-winning investigative journalist in New York. After her newsroom is abruptly laid off, she ends up back in Miranda Priestly’s orbit at Runway magazine. Anne Hathaway told the outlets that both she and Andy have changed in similar ways since the first film. She shared:

Andy’s clothes in the first movie helped tell the story of a young woman trying to survive in a world she didn’t yet fully understand. In the sequel, the clothes seem to belong to someone who knows exactly who she is, even when the movie edit has other plans.

So yes, the Ella Enchanted actress’ favorite Devil Wears Prada 2 look didn’t make it to theaters. But thanks to the paparazzi, fans still got to see the outfit. Somewhere, Miranda Priestly, like the best female villains in movie history, is probably pretending not to care.

Five of the movies that hit the 2026 movie schedule this weekend have claimed spots, giving the list below a major overhaul, with The Devil Wears Prada 2 slaying the competition as if it were a runway on fashion week. I’ll get into some interesting reasons why this debut was so significant, especially for Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.

Despite relinquishing their previous box office spots, Michael crossed another milestone this week after moonwalking over records in its first three days, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surpassed $400 million domestically after five weekends.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Makes That Box Office Crown Look Good

The Devil Wears Prada 2 didn’t need Crisco or fishing line to slide right into that No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend, earning $77 million domestically, per The Numbers, as it strutted right past the $66 million projections from last week. That gives Miranda Priestly and company the fourth-best start of 2026:

1. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: $131 million (April 1)
2. Michael: $97.5 million (May 24)
3. Project Hail Mary: $80 million (March 20)
4. The Devil Wears Prada 2: $77 million (May 1)

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s reunion picked up another $156.6 million from markets outside of the U.S. and Canada to earn a worldwide total of $233.6 million. Not only did that beat out the rest of the week’s movies, but it stomped all over its 2006 predecessor.

The Devil Wears Prada: Then And Now

This weekend’s $77 million premiere for the sequel eclipsed The Devil Wears Prada’s 2006 domestic box office pull of $27.5 million. In fact, the original movie that has had us quoting Miranda Priestly, Nigel Kipling and the rest of the Runway gang for 20 years ended its global run with $326 million. With The Devil Wears Prada 2’s worldwide opening of $233.6 million, it’s already 72% of the way to earning more than the original.

The current movie does, however, have a bigger budget to make back. The first movie was reportedly made for around $40 million, while The Devil Wears Prada 2 carried a much larger price tag of $100 million (most of which, according to The New York Times, went to cast salaries). Compare them all you like, but there’s no arguing they’re both box office wins.

No Marvel? No Problem.

There’s another interesting metric when it comes to this weekend’s box office winner. This is the first time a film marketed toward women has won the first weekend of May, Deadline points out, with the summer opener typically dominated by Marvel. The MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday was originally scheduled for this weekend before being pushed to December. Here are some past examples, per Box Office Mojo:

The Devil Wears Prada 2 had no problem filling those big shoes, as its global $233.6 million also reportedly served as the biggest opening weekend ever for Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, respectively beating Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’s $90 million from 2018, and Oppenheimer’s $176 million opening in 2023.

Michael And Mario Are Still Going Strong

Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie may have dropped a spot to the almighty Devil sequel, but there’s no reason for concern. The Michael Jackson biopic earned another $54 million domestically — falling just 44% from last weekend — for a domestic total so far of $183.8. Add an additional $240.1 million internationally to cross the $400 million mark with a worldwide total of $423.9 million.

Deadline reports that by the end of Monday, May 4, Michael will become Lionsgate’s biggest domestic title post-pandemic, knocking off John Wick: Chapter 4 ($187.1 million).

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surpassed $400 million domestically this weekend, now standing at $402.7 million and nearing the $900 million mark globally with $894.2 million.

What Critics And Audiences Thought Of This Weekend’s Other Premieres

There were several other movies that premiered this weekend, and while they might not have been as big as The Devil Wears Prada 2, they certainly mixed things up in the Top 10. Hokum may have gotten a push from positive reviews for its 5th-place finish, so let’s take a look at how all of this week’s premieres scored on Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore:

Other than Animal Farm — Andy Serkis’ animated book-to-screen adaptation of the George Orwell classic starring Seth Rogen — audiences seemed pleased with the weekend’s offerings. We’ll have to see which ones can hang on with summer blockbusters on the way.

What Competition Will Next Week’s Releases Offer?

So what titles are coming next weekend that might challenge The Devil Wears Prada 2 or possibly break the stronghold that Michael, Mario and Project Hail Mary have on the Top 5? Mortal Kombat II, starring The Boys’ Karl Urban is on deck, as well as another book adaptation in The Sheep Detectives, which boasts a stacked cast and bonkers trailer.

The upcoming video game adaptation is expected to make between $40 million and $50 million, per Box Office Theory, which would have it competing for the top spot. The Sheep Detectives, meanwhile, is expecting $10 million to $16 million.

Of course, we’re also already looking ahead a couple of weeks to The Mandalorian and Grogu. The Star Wars spinoff is looking at anywhere between $71 million and $100 million when it arrives in theaters on May 22, and at face value that seems like a win. However, in a franchise that’s used to films that break into the billions by the end of their runs, will The Mandalorian and Grogu be seen as a failure?

In the lead-up to the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 on the 2026 movie schedule, there was a lot of hype and attention surrounding it and its production. Specifically, when the sequel was being filmed in New York City, it was frequently swarmed by paparazzi and fans. So, I had to ask Tracie Thoms, who plays Andy’s best friend Lily, what it was like to film in these conditions. Based on what she told me, it wasn’t for the faint of heart.

So, in The Devil Wears Prada 2 (which is getting great reviews, by the way), many scenes take place on the streets of New York City. Most of them involve Anne Hathaway’s Andy, and she specifically shares a moment with Tracie Thoms’ Lily on the street. So, having seen the paparazzi photos of this production, I asked Thoms what it felt like to be in the middle of all this attention. In response, she said:

Last year, when The Devil Wears Prada 2 was in production, various photos of Hathaway and the cast walking around the city circulated on the internet. She also had a viral moment when she tumbled down the stairs while working on this film.

The attention had to be intense, and according to Thoms, it was, as she explained:

The fans were everywhere, according to the 9-1-1 actress, and it was a lot to take in. However, she made sure to note that by the time she got to her exterior scene in New York City, Hathaway had been dealing with all this for a while, and she was a pro:

While it’s part of filming this 2026 sequel, it’s not exactly a normal filming experience. To that point, Thoms told me those moments took “extra focus” to do, because there was so much going on behind and around the cameras:

When the sequel was filming outside, photographers got images of the actors in costume, meaning there were multiple outfit spoilers (like Miranda’s gorgeous red gown) because of the attention. Along with that, I’d imagine it’s simply hard to film with cameras constantly going off and fans screaming.

Thoms also told me that it was “interesting” to see so many people with their phones out as they tried to capture these BTS moments for themselves:

However, it wasn’t just the spectators who made filming in NYC hard. Remember, the city is also the city, and the production had to deal with things like construction people using a jackhammer. According to the Rent actress, someone on the crew literally “had to negotiate with the construction people” to stop that noise. So, as she said earlier, to film in these locations, it required the cast to bring “an extra layer of focus.”

They were able to bring their A-game amid the chaos, though, and now we have a stellar sequel because of it. So, while I’m bummed the cast had to go through this filming experience, having New York City as the backdrop of The Devil Wears Prada 2 felt vital. Plus, while the attention was a lot, it also proves just how iconic this film franchise is.

Considering the number of iconic lines The Devil Wears Prada has, I was waiting with bated breath to see how they’d call back to them in the sequel that just premiered on the 2026 movie schedule. So, you can imagine the surprise I felt when a lot of the references and easter eggs were very tasteful and fairly subtle. However, there was a callback to one of the original’s most iconic lines that left my jaw on the floor because of how savage it was.

I’m, of course, talking about the singular use of Miranda’s “That’s all.” So, let’s break down the line’s history and why it packed such an intense punch in the well-reviewed Devil Wears Prada 2.

The Iconic Devil Wears Prada Line I’m Talking About

So, I don’t know about you, but there’s one quote in The Devil Wears Prada that I was desperate to see in the sequel, it’s Miranda Priestly's iconic line:

Two quietly said words have never carried more disdain. And quite literally every time I’ve watched this great movie from the 2000s – whether it be on DVD or with a Disney+ subscription – they leave me feeling severe anxiety on behalf of Andy. However, no delivery of “That’s all” hit me harder than how it’s used in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

How ‘That’s All’ Was Used In The Most Brutal Way In The Devil Wears Prada 2

For a good portion of The Devil Wears Prada 2, I was waiting for Miranda to say “That’s all” in that calm and quiet voice that’s apparently inspired by Clint Eastwood. However, it wasn’t happening, and she was playing defense to save Runway for most of the movie. Unlike in the first film, she’s not a titan of business; she’s a boss who is simply trying to keep her publication alive and stay up with the rapidly changing times. So, I just figured the old Miranda wasn’t fully around this time.

And then Emily tried to take Runway by having her boyfriend Benji buy it, and the claws came out. Here’s what Miranda said about Emily trying to steal Runway, not save it, like Andy thought she was:

Then, as Emily tried to turn down this claim, Miranda said that she felt like Emily Blunt's character knew she was right, and after saying all that, Meryl Streep's editor-in-chief ended the conversation with:

Ouch! That hurt! It was also especially lethal because it's the only time "That's all" is said in the sequel.

However, I do think Emily needed a bit of a reality check. She really went to great lengths to try to take Runway, but thankfully, her plan was thwarted by Andy and her passion for journalism, and Miranda and her ruthless quest to keep her job. And I have to say, saving the “That’s all” for this moment made it both impactful and absolutely savage. Seriously, my jaw was on the floor over this.

Not only was it a stern reality check for Emily, but it was also a brutal (complimentary) reminder that ultimately, Miranda Priestly is the boss and you DO NOT mess with her.

In the twenty years since Meryl Streep debuted her role as Miranda Priestly in the first The Devil Wears Prada, the character has come to be known as one of the best female villains in movie history. With the sequel among 2026 movie releases in theaters now, Streep namechecked Marvel while sharing some interesting insight on the Runway editor-in-chief.

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Miranda isn’t quite the intimidating boss that she was in the first film. When we catch up with her this time around, she’s dealing with some big changes to Runway and portrays a lot more emotion than she did in the 2006 movie. When Hits Radio UK brought up Miranda’s “soft side” being in the sequel, Meryl Streep said this:

Oh, good point! While we might automatically think of a character like Miranda as the villain, Meryl Streep brought up that people often live in the grey areas in between good and bad, and she actually likes it that way. As she added:

It’s interesting too that she specifically brings up Marvel as perhaps one reason why audiences think of characters as the hero and villain. It definitely makes me wonder what Meryl Streep’s thoughts are about superhero movies, and the fact that there continuously are upcoming Marvel movies on the movie schedule really does make us think differently about the movies and TV shows we consume.

I mean, superhero movies are sort of our modern legends, aren’t they? Before there were comic books, there were fairytales and folklore with definitive good and bad characters and before that there were things like mythological and biblical characters of a similar nature. Certainly, I doubt Meryl Streep is blaming the tale as old as time storytelling method of good vs. evil to Marvel, but I do think it’s an interesting way to point out this tendency.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 certainly does have a layered approach to each of its characters and that’s certainly part of why reviews have been positive about it. While the character is widely thought to be a portrayal of Anna Wintour, Streep actually based her on Clint Eastwood and Mike Nichols.

The 2026 movie schedule features so many Anne Hathaway films, we might as well call it “The Year of Hathaway.” The Oscar winner has a staggering five movies she’s in – none of which are in a supporting capacity - and it sounds like she is enjoying every ounce of it while she can. However, she's also noting that something like this will "probably never" happen again.

It’s widely known that The Devil Wears Prada is inspired by what it’s like to work for Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour since it’s based on a book by one of her former assistants. However, there’s quite a few ways Anna and Miranda are different. For example, Meryl Streep actually based Miranda on Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood. The author behind Anna Wintour’s biography just brought up one thing Miranda does that is “very un-Anna.”

Amy Odell, who wrote Anna: The Biography, just pointed out something she noticed while rewatching The Devil Wears Prada. In Miranda’s grand entrance early in the movie, she’s seen with a white Prada bag with the logo on it visible. Check it out:

Per the author’s comments on her podcast Back Row, Anna Wintour would not be caught wearing a bag with a logo on it like that. In her words about what the former Vogue editor actually did instead:

Of course, in the context of a movie called The Devil Wears Prada, it makes perfect sense that Miranda Priestly’s first moment would be her literally donning the brand. And, while Anna Wintour surely inspired the character, Miranda is her own fictional character at the end of the day, and the movie had no need to get all the specificities correct.

Odell’s comments come as The Devil Wears Prada sequel arrives in one of the new 2026 movies coming to theaters this weekend. It comes twenty years after the original movie, and this time Anna Wintour was actually part of the marketing when she posed in Vogue with Meryl Streep for an interview tied to the release. During their cover story, Streep revealed that it was actually hard to get clothes secured for the original movie because “everybody was afraid of Anna” and perhaps what it would mean to be tied to a movie that might be making fun of the icon.

John Krasinski has made his love for The Devil Wears Prada know before. In an interview with Variety, he revealed his double-digit estimate for how many times he’s seen it. In his words:

At the time, he also said that he’s seen it a few times with his wife, but “it’s not the most comfortable thing” for her to watch herself in a movie. Apparently, he also told Blunt this when they were early in their relationship and joked that he felt “lucky” that “she stayed” and “didn’t realize that she had really married her stalker” in an interview with Glamour.

The Devil Wears Prada 2, which hits theaters Friday, May 1, comes at a time when 2000s nostalgia is at an all-time high, with recent reboots such as Freakier Friday and the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel. The Devil Wears Prada is one of the best movies of the 2000s, so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s next in line. Andy Sachs is also arguably one of Anne Hathaway's most recognizable characters, and Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica of the New York Times recently asked the Get Smart actress if she had any reservations returning to her most popular works, to which she said:

That immediately struck a chord in Coscarelli and Caramanica, who called these long-awaited franchise sequels Hathaway’s own Eras Tour, referencing, of course, Taylor Swift's blockbuster stadium tour in which she performed the biggest hits from her (then) 11 albums. Originally coined by Swift, the term “Eras Tour” really has taken on a life of its own in pop culture, used to describe any victory lap through an artist's most well-known work.

The comparison to the “Fortnight” singer is quite ironic, given Hathaway’s character in A24’s thriller Mother Mary, which premiered last week, was partially inspired by Swift's tours. Along with that movie, the 43-year-old actress has spent the last few years working in the alternative indie scene, on projects such as Eileen and Mother’s Instinct.

It’s a section of film Hathaway says she was prepared to exist in during this stretch of her career. So when the calls came to return to memory lane, the Interstellar actress says she was taken by surprise, but that it’s given her perspective on her nearly three decades in Hollywood:

No arguments here. Everything from the 2000s runway fashion to the insanely quotable lines is iconic, making me wonder why it took 20 years for a sequel. Therefore, there’s a lot of hype surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2, something Coscarelli acknowledges within his Taylor Swift metaphor, by saying it’s really hard to write “Anti-Hero.”

As a Swiftie, I can confirm this NYT journalist knows his stuff. “Anti-Hero” was Swift's single off her 2022 album Midnights. It was the Grammy winner’s 10th studio album, and her big return to pop after her expedition into the indie-folk genre of Folklore and Evermore. With her past pop catalog including 2016’s Album of the Year 1989 and fan-favorite Reputation, there were a lot of expectations with “Anti-Hero,” not unlike the expectations surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2.

However, Hathaway totally flipped the script, responding with a surprising 1989 reference:

That’s real talk right there. You think it’s hard writing the follow-up to a great hit? Try writing a big hit in the first place! Once you’ve got a beloved fan base, it’s much easier to ride that nostalgia train. To Hathaway’s point, the challenge is getting people on board in the first place.

That being said, if the Devil Wears Prada 2 is “Blank Space” (and I totally agree with that), then the Princess Diaries is clearly “You Belong With Me,” making the Princess Diaries 3 “But Daddy I Love Him” off of TTPD. If you are wondering why The Princess Diaries isn’t “Love Story,” it’s because that’s reserved for Ella Enchanted, and I’m holding out hope it's the next movie to get the Anne Hathaway Eras Tour treatment.

Well, if there’s one thing I know about fashion, it’s that it’s constantly evolving. What’s trending could be out in the blink of an eye. That point was also made when Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt were asked to review the looks they wore to The Devil Wears Prada premiere in 2006. Blunt was talking about her look in a way that reminded me of her character Emily telling Andy that she looked like she had a “hideous skirt convention to go to.” I think she’s being far too harsh on herself, too. I mean, plenty of celebs have thrown it back to the early 2000s with their looks in recent years, and I do think the Oppenheimer star’s purple dress is lovely.

However, it’s not lost on me that Blunt went way bigger for the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, so I can see why she had this kind of reaction to her OG look. At the New York City premiere for the highly anticipated sequel, she rocked a massive Schiaparelli gown that was very grand and glamorous. Tonally, it was very different than the look she rocked to the 2006 premiere.

You can see how fashion has evolved through these reactions. However, it’s also clear in the clothes that are featured in both movies. Andy’s wardrobe has evolved from The Devil Wears Prada to the sequel, and it’s obvious that the other characters’ styles have too. So, yes, it makes sense that the actress’s opinions on their original premiere looks have evolved.

Of course, I know the Oppenheimer star is just joking here, but I can’t help but laugh at the idea of Paster having a showdown with fellow stylists in order to obtain that joke. Regardless of the joke, though, it’s easy to imagine Paster facing a few hurdles before she could land such an elegant outfit. Kudos to her for being able to land the ensemble for Blunt to wear during the premiere.

The DWP2 cast members have been wearing some seriously sweet fits, whether they were filming the movie or promoting it more recently. For instance, just last week, Anne Hathaway sported a black, Versace minidress and Versace Aevitas high heels while promoting the film in New York. That stylish outing came months after photos of the cast went viral and revealed some of the outfits. Meryl Streep’s stunning red dress, which she wore in character as Miranda Priestly, was spoiled, along with a few other ensembles.

Emily Blunt discussed the high level of attention the Devil Wears Prada sequel was receiving, comparing it to a “zoo exhibit,” but she understood that fans were merely excited. While the material is considered fictional, the book is based on the author Lauren Weisberger’s real-life experience as Wintour’s assistant at Vogue. Now, some of her other former assistants are speaking out and revealing if their experiences were similar to the one recounted in the famed story.

In an interview with Vogue, four of Wintour’s assistants from over the years sat down to answer burning questions like what their job interviews were like, how demanding the job is, and what the famed fashion editor was really like. The assistants, all of whom have high-ranking positions at the fashion magazine now, were honest and open about the expectations of the gig, but were hesitant to compare their experiences to the ones shown in The Devil Wears Prada, even though it’s a question they get a lot. They said:

• Sache Taylor: "The first question is, ‘Is it just like the movie?’"
• Marley Marius: "I feel like the answer was kind of like, ‘No.’ I mean like…"
• Sammi Tapper: "I say, ‘Yes.’"
• Sache Taylor: "Yes, with an asterisk."

So it seems like there are similarities between their own experiences and the fictionalized version of the job, but it’s not exactly the same.

There are several likely reasons for this. The book was written over 20 years ago, so there are certainly things that have changed culturally over time, and the experience of one person won’t always reflect the entire job experience as a whole. Marley Marius, who is now Senior Editor of Features and News at Vogue, elaborated further slightly, saying:

For anyone who hasn’t seen the movie or read the book, Miranda Priestly is portrayed by Meryl Streep as a tyrannical leader who has outsized expectations for her assistants. She is overly particular about her food, she asks them to achieve the impossible, like getting the Harry Potter novel before it is released, and bullies them for their fashion sense. Her assistants lose their personal lives, as well as their minds in pursuit of pleasing her. So the movie isn’t exactly a flattering portrait of someone like Anna Wintour.

Despite all this, there remains an intrigue behind the position. People still vie for the heavily competitive role in hopes of rising up the ranks at Vogue, and Anna Wintour has seemingly embraced Streep's portrayal. She even appeared next to Streep dressed as Miranda Priestly on the cover of Vogue to help promote the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Whether or not Wintour is truly the personality that she appears to be in the film is seemingly still up for interpretation, but if anything, this has only created more mystique around her.

She went on to tell Colbert:

Streep confirms she’s been open and honest about this with the people who matter for years, telling Stephen Colbert she’s never specifically told Clint Eastwood, but she did get the chance to tell a “thrilled” Nichols. However, I do think it’s worth pointing out she’s played up the Anna Wintour/Miranda Priestly similarities herself over the years. There was even the time she went as Priestly at a fashion show and met with Wintour.

Two things can be true at once, however. The Devil Wears Prada is actually a book-to-screen adaptation of a book by Lauren Weisberger. Weisberger actually came up in the fashion industry in New York, and worked as a personal assistant to Anna Wintour before publishing her “fictional” book. So, the source material that Streep was working with was likely Winter-esque, and then Streep added her own flair based on her personal experiences. This has to be the explanation; however, given how much I love this movie, it’s wild I’ve never heard Streep’s take before.

Honestly, to hear her say her character is not based on the famed Vogue editor is a total trip.

The best part of the outfit reveal is when a funny exchange happens between Andy and the other assistants when she walks into the office. Here’s the exchange:

Honestly, this feels like a note out of Zendaya’s method dressing playbook that’s become rather common on press tours. It’s definitely a whole new look that we’re seeing in Mexico City and much more Anne Hathaway than Andy Sachs.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is one of our most-anticipated 2026 sequels, and one thing about it that’s only added to our excitement is all the leaked photos that came out while the movie was in production. And, after Anne Hathaway was caught falling down the stairs while filming one scene as Andy Sachs, the actress has shared what was going through her mind at that moment.

Back in August, when Anne Hathaway was filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York City’s Gramercy Park, photographers found the production and were snapping pictures as she walked out of a building in high heels. The actress had a fall down the stairs when one of her heels snapped, and the moment made its way on the internet. Here’s what Hathaway said about the moment:

Funnily enough, a 17-year-old Anne Hathaway had another famous fall on the set of The Princess Diaries when she slipped on a puddle while filming a scene on the bleachers. At the time, director Garry Marshall got a kick out of it and decided to leave it in the movie. Hathaway posted a video of herself falling during Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada 2 on her Instagram after it happened with the punny caption “twenty years later, still falling for you”.

The sequel brings back Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly (who seems to have forgotten Andy in the trailer), Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling, along with the same writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, and director as the original.

The Devil Wears Prada is the kind of movie I’ll sit down to watch every time it’s on TV or when it comes across my screen on streaming. It’s just that good. Now that the sequel’s release is less than two months away on the 2026 movie schedule and marketing has been in full swing (did you see that viral popcorn purse?) I watched the 2006 movie yet again, and now there's one thing I hope to see in the follow-up.

I Had A Big Takeaway When I Revisited The Original Movie

When I watched The Devil Wears Prada this time around, what was different for me is this time I was thinking about how the sequel could forward the stories told in the original. And, what really stuck out to me was the fraught relationships between Anne Hathaway’s Andy, Emily Blunt’s Emily and Meryl Streep’s Miranda.

I have no notes on how realistic they feel to how it might be in the cut-throat fashion magazine industry. But, yeah, it’s kind of a bummer that these women never form real relationships with each other by the end of the movie. It does feel like there’s an unspoken respect between them that’s touched on, but never outwardly explored.

For example, it seems like Miranda feels like she cannot show weakness in order to keep her intimidating presence and status intact, so she never gets close to Emily and Andy. Though at the end, Miranda does give Andy a glowing reference that helps her land her next job. Emily seems threatened by Andy throughout the film, and yet Andy gives Emily all the clothes she got during her trip to Paris when she leaves the position.

Overall, rewatching it got me thinking about how, in 2006, doing whatever you had to do for the hustle was pretty normalized in order to survive. And how in the past twenty years, there’s a different societal viewpoint on how much of our lives we should be giving to our 9-to-5’s. I mean, I don’t even think the idea of “work-life balance” would have been in Andy, Miranda or Emily’s vocabulary at the time. And, the idea of women lifting up other women in the workplace, even in small ways, was probably pretty revolutionary.

My One Wish For The Devil Wears Prada 2

I, of course, wouldn’t change the original The Devil Wears Prada for anything. I actually think it was quite ahead of its time in the way it dove into what it takes to be a woman in power at that time, and honestly, still is, in a lot of ways. But what I would like to see from the sequel is a continued exploration of this topic.

As far as Miranda goes, we know from the trailer that she claims not to remember Andy. I do wonder also if Miranda will let her guard down at some point and have a moment with Andy where their relationship will finally get to move past the boss/assistant dynamic, but I’m kind of OK if Miranda keeps being Miranda since she’s from the older generation, and it would be realistically more difficult for her to change her ways.

With that in mind, I would love for there to be a scene, particularly between Andy and Emily, in a way that allows them to reflect on being pitted against each other, now that they are older and more mature. I think it would be really cathartic and healing for other women who grew up on the movie to see them become friends (or at least allies) now that both of them have reached success in their careers, and perhaps help break the toxic cycle for the young assistants they must have themselves.

Anyways, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is definitely one of my most anticipated 2026 sequels, and we’ll see what happens when it comes to theaters on May 1.

It's impossible to think about The Devil Wears Prada book-to-screen adaptation without immediately thinking about Meryl Streep's performance as the glamorous and formidable Miranda Priestly. The Oscar winner brought this powerful and intimidating character to life so perfectly, and in addition to giving us a top-tier performance, she also apparently adjusted one of the more memorable lines in a movie that's positively brimming with memorable lines.

Near the end of the film, Anne Hathaway's character Andy is exhausted and more weary about her job than ever before following a rollercoaster ride of events during the Paris trip. When Miranda talks to her about the tough choices they have to make to get ahead, Andy questions whether she wants to be like Miranda, Streep's character responds:

Apparently, that line was just a little bit different, but the change made to it transforms the meaning in a big way.

In the bonus features on the Devil Wears Prada DVD, there's a featurette where screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna explains what the original line was, and why Meryl Streep suggested a change to it:

It wasn't until the final read-through that Streep delivered the iconic line we see her give just before she puts her sunglasses on and prepares to face the photographers awaiting her arrival:

Honestly, I'm trying to imagine Miranda saying "Everybody wants to be me," and I really think the impact would've been so different. By changing "me" to "us," the meaning of the statement shifts, as Brosh McKenna pointed out, from Miranda referring to her life specifically, to the seemingly glamorous world they're living at the center of. I also think the change helps emphasize what Andy is actually walking away from, as she chooses to separate herself from the "us" Miranda is referring to, and not just Miranda.

We're a little bit over a month away from The Devil Wears Prada 2 arriving on the 2026 movie schedule, and I don't know about you, but I absolutely can't wait. Based on the trailer, it's looking like we'll be getting even more great scenes and hopefully iconic moments between Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt. I absolutely can't wait! That's all.

As usual, there are a lot of sequels coming out this year, but I have to say that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is one that I’m more excited about among the 2026 movie releases. Now that tickets have become available to purchase, it was just revealed that the comedy will be getting in on the specialty popcorn bucket train. Now I sense a new fashion trend coming to theaters this May.

These days, specialty popcorn buckets have been all the rage, with an adorable Yoshi bucket recently being announced for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and an epic Lord of the Rings anniversary bucket coming out just in time for the trilogy being re-released in theaters. Are you kidding me? I’m obsessed with this popcorn purse! As you can see in this announcement from Regal Cinemas, fans will be able to eat their popcorn in what looks like a large bright red bag. I especially love the keychain that comes on it with a gold heel shoe with a tag with the movie’s title. Now that this officially exists, I guess we’ll have to plan our moviegoing outfits with it and accessorize accordingly.

And don’t worry, AMC fans, the theater chain shared it too in another Instagram post, but its offer includes a pair of sunglasses with the logo on the side and a limited edition of promotional Runway magazine in the deal they are advertising. The price of the popcorn purse has yet to be unveiled, but given the track record of more out-of-the-box buckets, we’d guess it’d be in the neighborhood of $40. And hey, that’s a lot less than a real Prada bag, which are usually north of $1,000.

When we got the first look at The Devil Wears Prada 2 back in November, it was a vague trailer that reunited Anne Hathaway’s Andy with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley. Now we’re slowly starting to get a better picture of the movie – but I love that it’s without revealing all the surprises associated with the sequel. Most recently, we heard a rumor that it's “testing very well” at early screenings. I can’t wait! I’ll be avoiding cerulean blue and visiting the concessions on May 1 when The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theaters.

Daniel Radcliffe spent more than a decade playing the Boy Who Lived, but that doesn’t mean he always knew what was happening behind the scenes of the Harry Potter Universe. In fact, the actor recently called out a pretty funny gaffe in The Devil Wears Prada. And once you hear his explanation, it’s hard not to laugh.

During a recent conversation about books and reading habits, Radcliffe reflected on how closely the cast of Harry Potter was kept in the dark about upcoming storylines. In a new interview with Bustle, the actor remembered a specific subplot from The Devil Wears Prada where someone in publishing could get their hands on an early copy of a new Harry Potter book. He said the cast had a very different reaction when they saw that moment in the film:

For anyone who remembers watching the iconic 2006 fashion movie, Radcliffe is talking about the storyline involving Anne Hathaway’s character scrambling to obtain the unpublished manuscript of the next Harry Potter book for Miranda Priestly’s daughters. In the film, landing that manuscript is portrayed as the ultimate impossible task. According to the Swiss Army Man star, though, it was even more impossible than the movie suggested.

The actor explained that most of the cast had no idea what was coming in the books. Despite starring in the book-to-screen adaptations, they weren’t given special access to upcoming plot points. That secrecy became something of a legend around the franchise, particularly as the later books contained huge twists fans were desperate to keep unspoiled.

The one notable exception was the late Alan Rickman, who spent the series absolutely crushing the villainous performance—until the story revealed there was much more going on beneath the surface. As Daniel Radcliffe noted, Rickman was famously given key information about his character’s long-term arc by author J.K. Rowling early in the process. However, there was one thing about playing Miranda Priestly that continued to plague her 20 years later, with the actress joking that it gave her PTSD after weeks of filming the sequel.

The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly is one of the most villainous female movie characters to exist, which is ironic given how wonderful Streep is to work with, according to her co-stars. The best actors love a challenge, though, and Streep, for the most part, was more than happy to reprise her role as Miranda Priestly for The Devil Wears Prada sequel. The Death Becomes Her actress told Vogue there was only one aspect to portraying the Runway editor-in-chief she was not excited to step back into:

I don’t know about the Medal of Freedom, but depending on her performance, perhaps we can settle for an Oscar? Only time will tell, but I certainly understand the point of Streep’s good humor: women’s fashion can sometimes be a pain. Thankfully, Streep stopped method acting after TDWP and was able to relax off camera on the sequel set, including stepping out of those difficult shoes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against heels entirely. They certainly pull together her outfits perfectly, and the pics leaked from the set of TDWP 2 have shown some incredible looks. Afterall, Miranda Priestly is the editor-in-chief of Runway, the most reputable fashion magazine out there. She would be caught dead wearing something that was out of style. Unfortunately for Streep, in the 20 years since The Devil Wears Prada came out, heels have stood the test of time.

However, costume designer Molly Rogers told Vogue that the actors actually had a lot of input when it came to updating their looks for the sequel, with fashion playing a big role in showing how the characters have grown. For example, Anne Hathaway wanted Andy’s look to inform the audience of her journalistic prowess since the first film.

For Miranda Priestly, her look must always command attention and respect, like this MET-Gala-worthy crimson gown. In the world of fashion, heels convey power and authority, so it makes sense they would be a constant in Miranda’s wardrobe. So while she couldn’t escape the heels, the Into the Woods actress did request to wear pants over skirts and dresses as often as possible. I can’t say I blame her, and I definitely think there’s a good compromise with the outfits previewed in the trailer:

Rogers said that many of the actors’ wardrobe calls made the cut, which makes me even more excited to see the fits still in store. The cast apparently learned firsthand from the experts, as they were seen attending a fashion show during Milan Fashion Week with Anna Wintour. The Devil Wears Prada, more specifically Miranda Priestly, is loosely based on the iconic former editor-in-chief of Vogue, for better or worse. So seeing Wintour and Miranda Priestly at a real fashion show together is a whole new level of meta.

Perhaps watching those models walk the runway in heels gave the Mamma Mia actress the inspiration she needed to push through all those scenes in heels. I can only hope she booked herself a spa day when filming wrapped. I just hope they allow her a nice flat shoe with excellent arch support for the press tour.

I will hardly let her award-worthy sacrifice go to waste, though. You can be sure I will be in attendance when The Devil Wears Prada hits theaters on May 1st.

Though there had been hopes and rumblings about a sequel to one of the best movies of the 2000s which can also make you totally rethink your whole wardrobe, The Devil Wears Prada, for nearly the entire time since it was released in 2006, talk reached a fever pitch when things were made official in the summer of 2024. Key talent like Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and many behind the scenes are returning, so the hopes are very high for this film to reach the heights of the previous tale of Andy, Miranda Priestly and all things Runway magazine.

Now, according to Deux Moi’s Instagram page, there are supposedly already screenings of the upcoming comedy happening in (I guess) super secret locations. Even better, there are early claims about the content of the new sequel, with the report noting:

Happy New Year! There’s nothing quite like the clean slate a fresh year can bring us, and when it comes to what 2026 movie releases are on the way, there’s a lot of big releases to be excited for. A lot of the movies I’m most excited about are adaptations of existing stories, like book adaptations for Project Hail Mary and Sunrise on the Reaping, DC Comics’ Supergirl, or Christopher Nolan’s telling of the Greek epic, The Odyssey, but I want to talk about which sequels have caught my eye the most as 2026 begins.

As it goes with Hollywood, there’s a lot of sequels on the way, with my current count (of those with official release dates) at twenty-three. But, which five movies am I most ready to buy a movie ticket and popcorn for? Let’s get into it (in release order).

Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come (April 10, 2026)

The first sequel of 2026 I’m the most stoked for is Searchlight’s Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The horror comedy comes seven years after Ready or Not, and will follow Samara Weaving’s Grace MacCaullay just minutes after the first movie ends. Now, I wouldn’t have initially thought about Ready or Not getting a sequel, but after seeing the trailer, I’m completely on board.

For one, the cast that’s been assembled alongside the return of Weaving is stellar. Kathryn Newton will play her sister, who will be hunted alongside her. Then we have Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Cronenberg, Elijah Wood, Kevin Durand and Néstor Carbonell as the hunters. Ready or Not 2 not only looks like it will be a blast, but it’s the kind of sequel that feels earned. As far as other horror sequels go, I’m excited for Scream 7, for example, but not nearly as much because there've been so many of them lately.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 (May 1, 2026)

Then, I have The Devil Wears Prada 2 circled on my calendar, which is coming twenty years after the original film. Once again, we’re dealing with a movie that doesn’t necessarily need a follow-up, but considering how much the first one is beloved, I’m all in on catching up with these characters two decades later. I particularly have a lot of faith in this one, because just about everyone who was involved in the first movie came back – right down to the same screenwriter and director. I mean, they must know how much the original means to people, and wouldn’t sign on if they didn’t have something worthwhile to bring to the fashion-centered story, right?

Having The Devil Wears Prada 2 come out also feels like an experience at the movies that has been few and far between since the 2000s. I’m all in on seeing what Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and all the new cast bring to it, especially after all the hubbub the set photos have been stirring up. Also, I think the fact that Disney put it at the start of the summer shows a huge vote of confidence in its success from the studio.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026)

Another summer 2026 sequel I’m very excited for is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While I should note Spider-Man is one of my favorite characters of all time, this movie intrigues me on a new level because it feels like we’re in uncharted waters for the character with its release. For one, it’s the first time a Spider-Man actor has gotten a fourth standalone movie, and two, this time it seems like Tom Holland’s comic book movie will be separating itself from the current MCU and going solo in a way we’ve yet to see from his era of the webslinger.

I’m going into it with a lot of questions about it: like how will he reconnect with Zendaya’s MJ and who is Sadie Sink playing? On the other hand, I was happy to hear during production that they are taking a much more practical approach to the stunts and how it was shot, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store.

Practical Magic 2 (September 18, 2026)

That brings me to my one and only spooky season pick of sequels: Practical Magic 2. Not unlike The Devil Wears Prada, this is another one that feels like a long time coming, considering the original movie came out back in 1998, and feels like the kind of movie that feels like it’ll bring back another time for Hollywood movies. Practical Magic 2 is the kind of movie I want to take my mom and grandma to, and also have the most fun girls' night out with friends. I can’t say that about a lot of movies that come out in a calendar year. And come on, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock back as the Owens sisters are going to be electric!

Dune: Part 3 (December 18, 2026)

The final sequel of my top five I’m most looking forward to is Dune: Part 3, which reportedly wrapped filming last month. And yes, I should note that Avengers: Doomsday, which comes out on the same day, didn't make the cut for me. (Look, I’m sort of excited, but the MCU burnout has hit me, too). The Dune movies thus far have been massive theatrical experiences that have not disappointed, and I’m really interested in what comes next in this saga. I fall in the camp of fans who preferred the sequel a lot more than the first movie, but I’m still not over how excellent Dune: Part 2 is, and I will be anticipating this trip to the movies all year.

Now that I’ve shared my top five, let’s get into some honorable mentions. As I mentioned before, Scream 7 and Avengers: Doomsday are on my list, but to a lesser extent than the ones I’ve just talked about. Both of them are bringing back some big names, but I don’t expect them to blow my mind; I’d love to be proved wrong. Toy Story 5 will also be a big sequel this year, but personally, Pixar movies haven’t hit the same for me as of late (and that probably has more to do with the phase of life I’m in).

If you’re clued on the behind-the-scenes details for the original The Devil Wears Prada, you might know that Meryl Streep decided to stay in character the whole time the first time around, and that “made her so miserable,” according to Emily Blunt. We don’t expect that she’ll do the same thing this time around because she said it was the “last time” she ever attempted “a Method thing” (via IndieWire) since it made her feel isolated from the cast.

Theroux’s words about working with Streep sounds like he’s feeling very lucky to be in the same room as the Oscar winner, and watch her work. Duh! Of course at this point he can only say so much, but I'm excited by the idea that everyone "knew" what they were making.

The Leftovers actor said he’s playing a “forward-leaning, rich and stupid” character whom he had a “blast” playing. It sounds like his new character fits right into the world of the film, where affluent fashion icons are everywhere you look.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will also star Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling, along with Kenneth Branagh playing Miranda’s new husband. There’s also a lot of other newcomers to the cast aside from Theroux like Brigerton’s Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Caleb Hearon, B.J. Novak and Rachel Bloom. Even Lady Gaga is in the movie! The sequel began filming over the summer and wrapped back in October. During production, there’s been a lot of concerns about fans spoiling outfits when they’ve been spotted filming. Blunt called all the attention the movie is getting to the cast feeling like “zoo exhibits.” We’ve seen some outfits from Streep, Hathaway and Blunt, but we’ve yet to see a photo of Theroux’s character. Everything will be revealed when the movie releases on May 1, 2026.

Dwayne Johnson Had A Silly Devil Wears Prada Pitch For Emily Blunt

So here’s the thing… Dwayne Johnson is good friends with Emily Blunt since they have starred together in movies like Jungle Cruise and The Smashing Machine. When the costars were interviewed together by Entertainment Weekly, The Rock revealed that he pitched himself for The Devil Wears Prada 2 while Blunt was filming. When asked if he had a character in mind, here’s what he said:

Nice try, Dwayne Johnson. The actor’s answer is hilariously vague, which Blunt followed up by adding "who's great at walking in heels, as you are,” to which The Rock exclaimed, "size 15 heels!" Blunt also joked in the interview that "You should see him in a pair of heels. Hot.” Johnson’s pitch could use some work, but as Blunt said, “he tried.” It would be pretty fun to see the actor as a fashion icon!

Although Johnson didn’t land a role in The Devil Wears Prada 2, he did get to hear a lot about the experience from Blunt secondhand. The actor said she’d message him sometimes while she was heading places in character and there would be hordes of fans trying to take a peek. She has previously called the attention The Devil Wears Prada 2 gets “overwhelming” and likened the experience to feeling like “zoo exhibits” since a lot of the production was filmed around New York City. We’ve seen a lot of the cast strutting around in chic outfits, and they’ve had to do a lot of sneaking around to make sure all the spoilers don’t come out.

The Rock May Not Be In The Sequel, But Everyone Else Is

Johnson and Blunt are still plotting their next movie together, which they said will be with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. (They also shot down a Jungle Cruise sequel.) When it comes to ​​Emily Blunt and her best films, I think it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone. From her work in A Quiet Place to Sicario, Mary Poppins Returns and Oppenheimer, she's proven her range, and you can’t go wrong with most of her titles. Yet, Blunt divulged that her two children, Violet (9) and Hazel (11), whom she shares with husband John Krasinski, only care about one of her movies. The answer, of course, is The Devil Wears Prada. With official word of The Devil Wears Prada 2's release happening next spring on the 2026 movie schedule, it has started to creep into its stars’ interviews. For the Emily Charlton actor, this tidbit about her girls was revealed to E News after she was asked if they’d seen it. According to her, they have, and it’s the only project of their mom’s they like, as Blunt said:

If they weren’t on the cusp of tweenhood, I’d find this a little hard to believe. But, as the sisters continue to age out of being young kids, I get that this particular stellar movie of the 2000s would edge out the rest. With it full of fashion, remarkable locations and A-list stars, I was right there with them (albeit I was a teen when it premiered, but the groundwork was there already).

Blunt went on to share how the siblings have strong opinions of her character, Emily, in the 2006 pick. The A-lister recalled her kids saying that the fictional Emily is “The meanest person on Earth,” something she doesn’t disagree with. She shared:

How funny is that? I can imagine the trio sitting around, with Krasinski recapping the staple hit. Does The Office star agree with his family? Or does he feel that the OG Miranda Priestly assistant outshone Andy Sachs? I, for one, am a huge fan of her as Anne Hathaway’s counterpoint.

Anyway, on top of that discourse, the blossoming franchise plays host to Emily Blunt working alongside her celebrity sibling, brother-in-law, Stanley Tucci. Clearly, the girls’ front runner is a full family affair with plenty of fun material to discuss. Maybe someday they’ll expand their lists, but it’s completely understandable that TDWP stands alone.

It's time to put on our best heels and step back on the runway, because we are one giant step closer to the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2. While we've seen some outfit spoilers for the highly anticipated sequel, we have not seen Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in action until now. And let me tell you, the first teaser trailer is very exciting, because it left me with a big question about Miranda and Andy's relationship.

What Happened In The First Teaser Trailer For The Devil Wears Prada 2

In the first teaser trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which you can see above, we spend a lot of its runtime watching a pair of red heels walk through the offices of what I'd guess is Runway Magazine. Then, as the woman wearing the heels walks into the elevator, it's revealed that she's Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly.

Looking iconic in her black outfit and matching sunglasses, she turns to face Anne Hathaway's Andy, who just barely made the elevator, and says:

Then, Hathaway's character puts on her sunglasses and smiles, which leads me to my question.

Where Does Miranda And Andy's Relationship Stand?

In the first movie (which is available with a Disney+ subscription), Andy was Miranda's assistant, and she was looked down on – as the many savage lines from The Devil Wears Prada prove. In this teaser trailer, Andy's smile and the fact that she also put on sunglasses have me wondering if she's more of Miranda's equal now.

Remember, at the end of The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda tells Andy that she sees a lot of herself in her. However, Hathaway’s character makes it clear she doesn’t want the Runway life, and throws her phone into the fountain in Paris. Then, the movie closes on Andy going out for a new job and getting a recommendation from Miranda.

In the trailer, it seems like Andy is back and maybe working with Miranda, which is shocking, considering Hathaway’s character wanted out of the business. However, it’s also been 19 years since the first movie came out, and a lot can change in that time.

So, after seeing this trailer, I’m wondering things like: Does Andy work at Runway? How much power does she have? Is Miranda still Andy’s boss, and what does the hierarchy of power look like? However, what it all comes down to is: Where does Miranda and Andy’s relationship stand?

This footage makes me think that they’re on pretty good terms and have a very productive working relationship. That’s honestly kind of wild to think, and whether I’m right or wrong, I cannot wait to see how their relationship plays into the film’s plot (which is still being kept under wraps).

I also can’t wait to see them interact with the rest of the cast in David Frankel’s movie, too. We know Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are also returning to their original roles. Alongside them, Kenneth Branagh is one of the new additions to the cast, which also includes Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Pauline Chalamet, Caleb Hearon and many more. The casting alone leaves me with even more questions about how the world around Runway has evolved since 2006, and I cannot wait to see how Andy and Miranda handle it and everyone in it.

Thankfully, we'll get to see that fairly soon, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 will premiere on the 2026 movie schedule on May 1.

Anne Hathaway has been a hard-working actor since her first role at 18 years old, in The Princess Diaries. If you browse through her credits, she’s had at least one movie come out every year since 2001 (aside from 2025), and that’s pretty impressive. But no calendar year is going to show her hustle more than the next one, considering the actress is set to be in four 2026 movie releases. And, I’m not talking about supporting roles here – she’s listed as having top billing in every single one of them. We have to talk about it.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 - May 1, 2026

Her massive year starts at the start of the summer season with The Devil Wears Prada 2, which fans have been asking for since the first movie came out in 2006. Since Hathaway’s first outfit was revealed when the movie started shooting in July, people have been so obsessed with all the fits that they’ve had to find ways to avoid spoilers for what’s to come.

I also think the fact that the movie took Avengers: Doomsday’s original spot on the calendar shows a lot of confidence from the Walt Disney Company for this movie to perform well commercially. We can’t wait to see Andy Sachs back alongside Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling and many more new cast members.

The Odyssey - July 17, 2026

Then, we’ll see Hathaway reunite with Christopher Nolan in his retelling of Homer’s Greek epic, The Odyssey, in a prime summer slot. The actress previously worked with the filmmaker on The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar. Hathaway is rumored to be playing the wife of Odysseus (Matt Damon), Penelope. We still haven’t seen what she’ll like in the role, but the actress and Nolan have always been a great actor/director duo. And after Nolan’s Best Picture win for Oppenheimer, there’s more interest in this next movie than ever.

Flowervale Street - August 14, 2026

At the end of the summer, Anne Hathaway will already be in her third movie of the year, with the science fiction movie, Flowervale Street. The movie is being directed by David Robert Mitchell, the director of It Follows, and produced by J.J. Abrams. Flowervale Street will have Hathaway and Ewan McGregor playing husband and wife who start to notice unusual happenings in their neighborhood. This is definitely the lowest profile movie of the four, but I love the idea of seeing Hathaway in an original science fiction concept. I’m definitely keeping my eye on this one.

Verity - October 2, 2026

Last but not least, Anne Hathaway will be in the next Colleen Hoover adaptation, Verity. This book has been a big bestseller and a major talking point among TikTok’s BookTok. She plays a bestselling author in her own right, who asks Dakota Johnson’s Lowen to finish her famed book series, but behind the request is a mystery to be uncovered. This could be a huge release, too.

What I love about what’s coming for Hathaway is that each movie is completely different. We’re going to see a huge range from the actress, and more from her than we’ve ever seen from her (or most actors) in a single year. I can’t wait for the new year.

After almost 20 years, it’s amazing news that the long-awaited Devil Wears Prada sequel will be hitting theaters next spring. But clearly, fans cannot wait until then, as they continuously post set photos that reveal the most fashionable costume choices of each fan-favorite character. However, Emily Blunt, who will reprise her role as Emily Charlton, revealed one way that the cast has been trying to avoid spoiling outfits as best they can.

Typically, spoilers about an upcoming movie could be revealed if an actor is spotted on set by the public or if they are seen filming at a notable location or set. And you can’t forget about Emily Blunt’s outfits for the sequel, as we saw her in a black-and-white pinstripe suit. Based on all of these on-set photos, it looks like the cast and crew of the 2026 movie release are ready to bring their fashion A-game once again.

Previously, Emily Blunt compared all of the attention for her upcoming comedy to a “zoo exhibit.” So, you can imagine what the British actress said to Variety when it came to revealing anything else about the spring sequel:

With all of the outfit spoilers that have come out for The Devil Wears Prada 2, you would think the creative team would mind these on-set photos surfacing before the movie’s trailer even premieres. However, they’ve expressed that the attention surrounding the sequel has left them complimented about the excitement. Plus, I'm sure they knew what they were getting into as they filmed parts of the movie in iconic New York City locations.

But, I’m sure there will be more outfits in the final product that on-set photos have yet to capture.

When Ridley Scott makes a new movie, everybody should take notice. The Dog Stars is one of the upcoming book-to-screen adaptations on the way, as it is based on a bestseller from Peter Heller. The Dog Stars is a post-apocalyptic story that follows characters played by Josh Brolin and Jacob Elordi in the aftermath of a pandemic that has wiped out most life on the planet. The movie comes from Disney’s 20th Century Studios.

Whalefall

Release date: October 16, 2026

Another 20th Century Studios film, Whalefall is based on a novel by Daniel Kraus. It’s about a man scuba diving in search of his fathers remains, who is accidentally swallowed by a whale, and must find a way to escape. It stars Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin, and Elisabeth Shue and is written and helmed by Brian Duffield.

Wild Horse Nine

Release Date: November 6, 2026

Searchlight Pictures has a black comedy starring the likes of John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits and Parker Posey coming out just in time for awards season. It’s about two longtime CIA officers living in 1973 who get stationed in Easter Island. The movie is written and directed by In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin filmmaker Martin McDonagh

Hexed

Release Date: November 25, 2026

Announced during Disney’s Destination D23 event in August 2025, Hexed is an original story from Walt Disney Animation Studios that follows a teenager named Billie and his “Type-A” mother who discover she has magical abilities. This discovery leads them to a world where magic can run free. Hailee Steinfeld plays Billie and Rashida Jones voices her mom, Alice.

Ice Age: Boiling Point

Release Date: February 5, 2027

After Blue Sky Studios shut down in 2021, there was a time when more Ice Age movies seemed out of the realm of possibility. However, when it was acquired by The Walt Disney Company as part of its acquisition of 20th Century Fox that soon changed. The new movie brings back all our favorite characters from the series: Ray Romano’s Manny, John Leguizamo’s Sid, Denis Leary’s Diego, Queen Latifah’s Ellie and Simon Pegg’s “Buck” Wild.

Gatto

Release Date: March 5, 2027

The upcoming original Pixar title is set in Venice and focuses on a cat named Nero who needs to pay back a debt to a feline mob boss. This leads Nero into an unlikely partnership with a street musician. It comes from the filmmaker of Luca, Enrico Casarosa, and stars Mark Ruffalo as the leading kitty.

Bluey

Release Date: August 6, 2027

Bluey, the Australian animated kids show, has proven to be a hit for all ages and is regularly among the most-watched shows on Disney+. Disney will also distribute a feature-length Bluey movie in 2027 directed by the show’s creator Joe Brumm and giving the show’s beloved characters a big-screen debut.

The Simpsons Movie 2

Release Date: September 3, 2027

20 years after their last big screen endeavor The Simpsons will once again hit the big screen thanks to Disney’s 20th Century Studios. We don’t have many details about the plot of this one yet.

Frozen III

Release Date: November 24, 2027

Frozen is too big of a phenomenon to not receive another sequel, and it’s on the way for next fall. We know the third movie will feature Anna and Kristoff having a royal wedding and a mysterious adventure will once again have Elsa using her magical abilities to save her family and kingdom. The Frozen 3 release date for November 2027. Jennifer Lee previously confirmed that the story is so big it will require two movies, though when we’ll see the second one has yet to be officially announced.

We expect to see Maia Kealoha’s Lilo, Sydney Agudong’s Nani and the voice of Stitch, Chris Sanders back, but details about the sequel are currently under wraps.

Meryl Streep already knew how to make an entrance when she starred as Miranda Priestly in one of the best 2000s movies, The Devil Wears Prada. Filming for the long-awaited sequel went up a notch when the Oscar-winning actress dressed as the iconic female film villain during a Milan Fashion Week show. And who else should be there but the muse behind Miranda Priestly? Vogue’s former Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour got the chance to meet the talented actress at the same fashion show, and I wish I were a fly on the wall.

Lauren Weisberger, who authored The Devil Wears Prada, is widely believed to have based Miranda Priestly on her former boss Anna Wintour, back when she was her personal assistant at Vogue. If you can believe it, People reported that fact and fiction blended when Meryl Streep looked stunning as ever, filming her sequel scenes as the Runway editor at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 and got to meet her character’s inspiration, Anna Wintour. Wow, how I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during this rendezvous.

At the Milan Fashion Week show, Meryl Streep was seen as Miranda Priestly sitting next to Stanley Tucci, who looked to be in full Nigel Kipling mode, co-star Simone Ashley, who will be playing a new character in the 2026 movie release, and fashion editor icon Anna Wintour. Before the show, Wintour and Streep had previously met, as shown in Vogue’s Instagram video, being all smiles and hugs, which gives out all of the feel-good vibes:

How I would have loved to have been there! Oh, the questions I have. I’m incredibly curious what the pair could have talked about, such as whether they complimented each other’s high-end fashion ensembles, and if Anna Wintour might possibly have a cameo appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Considering all of the spoilers that have already come out for the Spring release, maybe it’s best to leave some things a fun surprise.

Not only are fans like me happy that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally coming together, but so is Anna Wintour. The British-American former editor previously said she understands the hype on the upcoming sequel for not only seeing the cast of the previous dramedy return, but also as an honorable tribute to the importance of fashion.

As Miranda Priestly comes off as icy and demanding in the movie, we fortunately don’t have to worry about the Condé Nast artistic director being offended by the film’s take on her, as she previously said she found the first movie to be “highly enjoyable and very funny” with high praise for Meryl Streep’s portrayal. This proves that even real-life power figures can appreciate a playful dramatization of themselves without taking it personally.

It would have made my day to see Streep as Miranda Priestly meet her real-life inspiration at the Dolce & Gabbana show. Imagining their encounter as the two style icons watched the runway makes you wonder which one would have raised an eyebrow first. Meryl Streep was spotted sitting alongside co-star Stanley Tucci and one of the exciting new The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast members, Bridgerton's Simone Ashley, was sitting behind her as well. Streep was also sitting next to supermodel Naomi Campbell as she took in the prestigious fashion show.

Marie Claire’s senior fashion news editor Halie LeSavage reported that Streep was “in character” and “gave a few nods of approval” as she watched the show. She even waved at Anna Wintour (who partially inspired Miranda Priestley) during the appearance.

Apparently, there had been rumors swirling all week about the movie character stopping by, but LeSavage recalls nearly falling out of her seat when the moment happened. In the video, you can definitely see Streep's appearance at the event was well received, as everyone in attendance seemed to stand up and capture the moment upon her entrance. I’d imagine that entrance will be in a scene in the upcoming sequel.

Since The Devil Wears Prada 2 began filming back in June, the cast has been spotted all over New York City in various fashion-forward ensembles. Previously, Meryl Streep blew fans away when she stepped out in a red ball gown on the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Kenneth Branagh, who is set to play Miranda’s new husband. Fans have also seen Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt out and about in character, and Sydney Sweeney was even allegedly seen on set even though she was never announced in the cast.

Along with the return of the key cast from the 2026 movie, Lucy Liu is in the movie along with Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Caleb Hearon, Rachel Bloom, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman. The director of the original movie, David Frankel, along with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, are also both back in their respective roles.

We don’t have a lot of details about the storyline of The Devil Wears Prada 2. However, Streep’s recent appearances, including her latest takeover of the Dolce & Gabbana show provides a clue about Miranda Priestly’s status within the universe of the films. By the looks of it, she still has high influence in the fashion industry, and I'm excited to see her -- and by extension, Meryl Streep -- command the big screen again.

The fashion of the film is already making headlines, and I'm personally hoping for another montage like Andy got in the first movie.

The internet was set ablaze seeing Meryl Streep back as Miranda, including her signature silver hair and chic costume. Exactly what the Runway Editor in Chief will be up to in the sequel is a mystery at this point, but we can look to the novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns for clues.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently expected to hit theaters on May 1st as part of the 2026 movie release list. In the meantime, the first one can be re-watched on Hulu and Disney+. We'll just have to see if Wintour gets a cameo the second time around.

So, while the Oppenheimer star is like most of us and would adore to indulge her love of pasta and martinis on the reg, she simply has to watch it when wearing high fashion nearly every day for her current gig.

In fact, fans are so hungry for info on the movie, that they’ve hung around the set and been able to photograph the actors in a number of beautiful couture looks, leading to a lot of Prada 2 fashion spoilers. The Devil Wears Prada 2 took over Avengers: Doomsday’s prime summer release date when the Marvel movie moved to the holiday season, which means it will kick off the season on May 1, 2026. We’ll be curious to see how it stacks up with other summer titles like The Mandalorian and Grogu, Masters of the Universe, Toy Story 5, Supergirl, Minions 3, the live-action Moana movie, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and the new Tom Holland Spider-Man movie.

Disney just found some success with another comedic sequel with early 2000s nostalgia in this summer’s Freaker Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The movie is currently the No. 21 highest grossing movie of 2025 with a $148.5 million worldwide gross (per Box Office Mojo) and still going against a reported $45 million production budget.

The first The Devil Wears Prada was certainly a big hit back in 2006, making $326.5 million worldwide with a summer release date, placing it in the top fifteen movies of the year. Lucy Liu sounds excited for its coming release, and her comments only have us more interested in what her role will be.
