Even as Taylor Swift counts down the days to her July wedding to Travis Kelce, the artist keeps feeding the Swifties. After a couple of new music videos from The Life of a Showgirl, she’s now spilling the tea about her writing process. In addition to answering a question that has plagued us for literally two decades, she also appeared to throw some shade, and fans were quick to start pointing fingers at Ellen DeGeneres over one viral interview.

The New York Times has named Taylor Swift one of the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters, and the artist opened up about how the haters have inspired her music. In a viral clip circulating from the interview, she calls out the people (or perhaps a specific person) for mocking her dating life, saying:

Taylor Swift appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show quite a bit during the talk show’s run to promote her music, but the boyfriend slideshow in question seems to be from a 2012 episode. Ellen tried to get the singer to divulge which ex-boyfriends certain songs were written about by ringing a bell when she showed a photo of someone she'd dated.

Photos of Taylor Swift and different men started to carousel across Ellen DeGeneres’ big screen — some of them did feature her ex-boyfriends, but others were just pics Swift had taken with other celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Zac Efron. Taylor Swift stated that she wasn’t going to reveal anything and didn’t want to play the bell game. She seemed to be tearing up when she said:

The Red artist appeared to be really upset by Ellen’s actions, and it’s honestly not a fun clip to watch. Ellen DeGeneres was an incredibly successful talk show host during her time on the air, and also one of the most controversial. Mid 2020, DeGeneres faced a slew of “Mean Ellen” rumors by many of her Hollywood peers, which laid the groundwork for her show ending. Regardless of the buzz, she still has fans who'd love to see her on TV, but could it ever happen? Still, the Finding Nemo actress seems to be looking ahead in her career, and not behind. She's open to future possibilities awaiting her but not sure where to head just yet. That said, DeGeneres will be going into any new endeavor with intention, and to have some fun. For now though, she is more or less making do with her farm animals, as she said on the subject of picking her next gig:

It’s been over two years since the death of Stephen “tWitch” Boss, who died by suicide at the age of 40 in 2022. More recently, alleged details on Boss’ passing and mental state have been divulged by his wife, Allison Holker. She shared that information in her recently released memoir, This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light. Among the topics discussed is tWitch’s supposed drug use, which supposedly increased shortly before his death. Holker even claims he used them while working on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.

What Exactly Did Allison Holker Say About tWitch’s Drug Use In Her Book?

Through her new book, 36-year-old Allison Holker has been incredibly candid about her life and experiences with her late husband. She describes both highs and lows, with the latter including her spouse’s mental health struggles and the moment she learned of his suicide. Another set of quotes from the book (via Us Weekly) involve her speaking about Stephen Boss’ purported reliance on marijuana. Holker went as far as to say that it came to a point at which Boss was in “an almost constant state of high” not long before he died. She also said:

In 2014, the late So You Think You Can Dance star joined Ellen, ultimately serving as a guest DJ and later guest. In time, the father of two was also named an executive producer on the talk show and remained with the program until it ended in 2022. Like many others, Ellen DeGeneres paid tribute to tWitch after his death. As for how his purported drug habits related to the show, Allison Holker claimed he had a habit of “sneaking out to smoke” amid production. Holker also asserted that her hubby was able to do this without anyone knowing:

Allison Holker also asserted that had she known what was going on, she would’ve arranged for her spouse to enter rehab “no questions asked.” Despite that, she also said “Stephen’s behavior demonstrated that he clearly didn’t want” help from her or anyone else. While Holker continues to share claims about Boss, she’s receiving backlash from others who knew him.

What Have Others Said In Regard To The Claims Made By Stephen Boss’ Wife?

When Allison Holker began promoting her book, some of tWitch’s relatives spoke out against her. One of those people was the fan-favorite DJ’s cousin, Darielle, who took to social media to say she was “so tired of keeping [her] fucking mouth shut.” She not only accused Holker of making family members sign NDAs at Stephen Boss’ funeral but also claimed she was keeping her and Boss’ kids from their family. Boss’ brother, Dré Rose, also backed up Darielle’s claims on his own social media account (via EW).

Courtney Ann Platt – a friend of the Boss/Holker family – voiced her disapproval as well. She shared her thoughts using an Instagram post, with which she chastised Holker for the manner in which she’s opened up about her husband. In Platt’s estimation, it’s the “most tacky, classless, opportunistic act I have ever seen in my entire life.” She also questioned Holker on whether this situation would “protect [Boss’] children from any further humiliation, hurt and despair” in the long run.

Someone did come to Allison Holker’s defense, however, as her daughter, Weslie, shared thoughts. In a lengthy social media video, the 16-year-old spoke in favor of her mother and expressed disillusionment with her relatives speaking out as they have. As Holker continues to discuss her husband’s death, drug abuse and more in various formats, we can only speculate as to what other kinds of reactions she’ll garner.

Three years after announcing her talk show exit, and more than two years after filming her final episode, Ellen DeGeneres entered what she says is her retirement phase with the release of For Your Approval. The stand-up special, which hit Netflix’s 2024 lineup in mid-September, may end up being her last televised stage show, and it sounds like that’s the best-case scenario for former talk show staffers who have alleged complaints against DeGeneres over her workplace behavior.

With its title serving as a snarked-up response to the wave of negative publicity making national headlines in 2020, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval does indeed feature the former sitcom star directly addressing that controversial period, but in ways that don’t accept any responsibility for the actions she was accused of. And several Ellen Show employees had quite a few opinions to share with Rolling Stone about seeing their former boss addressing claims of being mean in front of such a massive audience.

Understandably, the former staffers spoke under the cloak of anonymity, with one noting that the comedian’s motives were recognizable just from the title of the special alone, saying:

In a similar vein as Louis C.K.'s 2020 and 2021 specials Sincerely Louis C.K. and Sorry, which were his first releases following his sexual misconduct scandal, DeGeneres talks about being shunned and canceled, as it were, but without ackknowleding the way in which she was sharing this message with her loyal fanbase. That sentiment came up in a complaint at least from one staffer, who said:

Ellen DeGeneres doesn't stick entirely to her public backlash (which she previously called "orchestrated") throughout the special's runtime, and offers some arguably amusing non sequiturs here and there that have little or nothing to do with being a celebrity, a lot of her act does address her fall from pop culture grace by bringing up her legitimate struggles rising up the ranks in Hollywood.

Specifically, she talks about her ABC sitcom and the groundbreaking move of having a major network TV character coming out as gay, and then doing the same thing herself soon after. It was a watershed moment for media representation, and DeGeneres inspired a lot of LGBTQ+ people within the entertainment industry and beyond. But even so, those who worked with her previously don't think she should be able to use that example of facing strife to put herself on the same level as those who spoke out about the host herself. As one put it:

While she may never outright apologize to anyone in particular for her alleged behavior behind the scenes of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and while seeing those issues spoken about with levity in the stand-up special may be triggering, the fact that she's supposed to be retiring after this special should come as good news to many of those who lodged complaints about it.

Of course, some former staffers also expressed to Rolling Stone that they doubt DeGeneres is being completely sincere about retiring, but we'll just have to wait and see whether or not that gameplay plays out.

Ellen DeGeneres has mostly been laying low since May of 2022, when the final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired. In a move that likely pleased her wife Portia de Rossi, the former sitcom star returned to the stage, kicking off the Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour. It was obvious that she’s still hurting over the way her talk show ended, as she told the crowd (per Rolling Stone) that she’d been kicked out of show business. DeGeneres referenced how she used to end her show by telling people to “be kind,” saying:

In addition to the “Mean Ellen” accusations (that were corroborated at the time by several celebrities), Ellen DeGeneres also made reference to the controversy that surrounded her sitcom Ellen in the ‘90s, on which she publicly came out as gay. She said during her comedy set that the end of her talk show mirrors that situation in a way. The comedian pointed out:

The standup tour is reportedly being filmed, so fans will be able to see her set on streaming with a Netflix subscription this fall. In true Ellen DeGeneres fashion, there were plenty of laughs to be had, but make no mistake, the talk show host was deeply affected by the events of the past couple of years. She said:

In July 2020, 36 former employees independently reported incidents of racism, sexism, sexual misconduct and harassment from top executives on the show. Three senior producers were fired, but Ellen DeGeneres herself did not come out unscathed, as she was deemed to have fostered that toxic atmosphere, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show never recovered from the ratings dip.

Stephen Boss’ death by suicide in December left so many of his friends, family and fans in shock and confusion by how much pain was apparently hiding behind the dancer/DJ/actor’s bright smile. As natural as it is to want to find a reason behind such tragic situations, it’s also dangerous territory to speculate about what tWitch might have been going through. Todrick Hall is apparently receiving backlash from some of the late dancer’s friends for suggesting that tWitch was “under a lot of pressure” for his support of Ellen DeGeneres.

The So You Think You Can Dance alum began appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014, and he remained loyal to the longtime daytime TV host through accusations that she perpetuated a “toxic work culture.” Todrick Hall said that the continued working relationship may have caused pressure in tWitch's life, and Stephen Boss’ friends are apparently not happy with those comments. They apparently think it’s “unfortunate” that Hall would speculate on what was going on in Boss’ mind. A source who was reportedly close to tWitch told TMZ: 

The fact that Todrick Hall made such comments while promoting his own project is even further in bad taste, according to the source. While the entertainer admitted: “I don’t know what was going on in his life that may [have led] him to make that decision,” he said if he were in a position where there was “abuse” that would take place “for years and years and years, there’s only so much a human being can take.”

Stephen Boss reportedly did leave a suicide note that alluded to past “struggles,” but there’s no way for most of us to know what he was referring to.

When Ellen DeGeneres was being investigated for claims of racial discrimination, microaggressions and sexual misconduct in 2020, Stephen Boss said there wasn’t much that he could say legally. However, he appeared to stand by the comedian, saying, “Obviously there’s some things to address, but from my standpoint and from countless others, there’s been love.” A year later, when it was officially announced that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be ending after 19 seasons, tWitch said he “was really proud of her,” and that the show had been “such a huge blessing” in his life.

The feeling seemed to be mutual, as Ellen DeGeneres was among many to pay tribute to the DJ upon news of his death, sending love to his wife Allison Holker and their three children. A week later, the former talk show host posted another heartfelt message, encouraging tWitch’s fans to “laugh,” “hug each other” and “play games,” because that’s what he would have wanted. She also said she was grateful that he was by her side when The Ellen DeGeneres Show filmed its final episode, and she shared their emotional conversation from that day as well.

Stephen Boss’ family held a private funeral on January 4 to honor the dancer, who died December 13 at age 40, and it was reported that a larger celebration of his life is being planned.

This included messages from his So You Think You Can Dance colleagues, posts in his honor from Dancing With The Stars veterans, as well as videos and tributes from his longtime friend and colleague Ellen DeGeneres.  

After the news about tWitch’s death broke, DeGeneres posted a heartfelt message and photo on social media. A few weeks later she posted an emotional video calling her friend “pure light,” and encouraging viewers to “laugh,” “hug each other” and “play games” in honor of tWitch. 

Along with these recent posts, DeGeneres has also been posting clips from her show, highlighting tWtich’s best moments. Most recently, she uploaded a video from the final season of her and tWtich reflecting on their time together on the daytime talk show, and the positive impact it had. The dancer noted that has was “feeling all of the things,” to DeGeneres and they both spoke about how “thankful” they were for the special show.

While the moment was emotional, it was also joyful. They both reflected on how lucky and grateful they were to work on the show for so many years. DeGeneres hosted the show for 19 years, and tWitch was by her side as the DJ for eight of those. 

The dancer and DJ was loved by DeGeneres, the staff of The Ellen Show and its guests. Following longtime Ellen Show producer Andy Lassner posting a tribute to tWtich, popular guests like Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Garner posted their condolences and love for the dancer. 

There has been an outpouring of love for the SYTYCD competitor-turned-judge. From DeGeneres to Jojo Siwa, many have posted about him, and his family has also opened up about how much they miss tWitch. His mother posted an emotional image on Instagram, saying she wished she could FaceTime her son in heaven.

Not much is known about tWitch's death, other than he died by suicide. However, in the weeks following his passing, there has been an abundance of love and support shown toward the dancer and his family. 

DeGeneres has been posting lots of videos and tributes for tWitch, noting her love for him and remembering “all the love and laughter” she had with him, as she wrote in a post on December 15. And this latest video from one of the final episodes of the show really amplifies how much Ellen and tWtich love each other, and how much they loved working together. 

A little over a week after Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ tragic death, his longtime colleague and friend Ellen DeGeneres posted a heartfelt video to the dancer and DJ. This is the first time the talk show host has spoken about what happened to tWitch. She posted a tribute to him the day he died as well as highlights from him on her show, but this video is the first time she verbally spoke about it. 

In the video, she encouraged viewers to “laugh” “hug each other” and “play games,” because that is what tWitch would want. You can watch her heartfelt message where she called the So You Think You Can Dance alum “pure light” here:

There was no caption with DeGeneres’ video. She acknowledged how hard the last few weeks have been for everyone, and how the holidays can be hard. The comedian got emotional talking about tWitch, and she encouraged people to honor him, even though it feels “impossible.” She also asked people to check in on one another, and ended her video by saying we should honor him, and “send love to one another.” 

On the day tWitch died, DeGeneres posted a heartfelt message to his family, saying she was “heartbroken.” She also sent her “love and support” to the dancer’s wife Allison Holker and their three children.  

Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss had been on DeGeneres’ show full-time for eight years. He started as a guest, and eventually became the show’s DJ. In the final years of the daytime talk show, he was also an executive producer. 

The long-time Ellen DeGeneres Show DJ died by suicide at the age of 40. Immediately following the news of his death many posted tributes to their long-time friend, showing just how beloved tWitch is. 

The dancer’s friend of over 20 years Justin Timberlake posted about him, saying he “lit everything up.” Along with DeGeneres and Timberlake, many people from the dance community paid tribute to tWitch too, including pros from Dancing with the Stars and the judges and contestants from So You Think You Can Dance, as well as celebrities like Jodie Sweetin and Derek and Julianne Hough. 

The SYTYCD contestant turned judge’s mother released a statement thanking everyone for the “love, prayers and encouragement,” and she said his family is “completely devastated right now.” She explained that she had talked with her son not long before he died, and said there was “no indication that anything” was wrong. tWitch reportedly left a suicide note that alluded to “struggles” in the past.  

While there is not much else known about his death, there has been a clear and abundant outpouring of love from those who knew and loved him, including his long-time friend Ellen DeGeneres.

The host herself reacted to the heartbreaking news of Boss’ death by suicide at the age of 40, saying she “loved him with all my heart.” Now, producer Andy Lassner has penned his own heartfelt message. In a lengthy post, Lassner spoke about what tWitch meant to everyone who crossed his path, and his musings elicited comments from popular guests of the talk show, including Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Garner. 

The light Stephen Boss emitted seemed to touch all corners of the entertainment world. Everyone from Justin Timberlake to actors Kerry Washington and Jason Alexander to those he knew from the Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance community have all paid tribute to tWitch on social media. Andy Lassner received A-list support following his own Instagram post that talked about how tWitch made everybody feel like "the most important person in the world," and the reason he's missed so much and by so many is proof that he was "our flame. Stephen “tWitch” Boss was found dead in a motel room on December 14 with what police say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said there was a suicide note that alluded to past “struggles.” His wife, Allison Holker Boss, had reported him missing that morning, after she said he uncharacteristically left the house on foot the day before and was not answering her calls. 

The DJ/dancer had reportedly checked into the Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California, which was less than a mile from his home. Housekeeping “repeatedly” knocked on the door of his room when he didn’t check out the next morning and eventually called management to open the door. That was when his body was found.

Officers reportedly had gone with Allison Holker Boss to help her search their house for clues, before the call came in from the motel. In addition to his wife, tWitch leaves behind three children: Weslie, 14; Maddox, 6; and Zaia, 3. The entertainment world is in a state of shock following the tragic death of dancer and DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss. The celebrity was found in a motel on December 13, and reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 40. Many took to social media to pay tribute to Boss, including a number of people he’d become close to through the dance community. That’s how pop star Justin Timberlake first came to know Boss over 20 years ago, and as details continue to come out about what happened, the former boy-bander shared his own thoughts on his longtime friend’s passing.

Justin Timberlake echoed the thoughts of many when recalling the energetic dancer — who was often seen on social media, doing dance routines with his wife, Allison Holker Boss, their children and friends — saying that you just never know what’s going on in someone’s head. He tweeted: 

Stephen Boss will likely be remembered for his big smile and the positive energy he seemed to bring into every room. The entertainer got his start in the business as a contestant on Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance, later serving as a judge in Season 17. He was also featured in a few of the Step Up sequels and paired up with Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL. However, many knew tWitch as the beloved DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which he joined in 2014, sharing some emotional thoughts as the talk show came to an end. 

Justin Timberlake penned a separate message to tWitch’s wife and three children — Weslie, 14, Maddox, 6, and Zaia, 3 — as well as all of his fans, urging them to love themselves, tweeting:

Details continue to come to light surrounding the discovery of Stephen Boss’ body in a motel room on December 13. ET reported that Boss checked into the Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California, on December 12. Housekeeping “repeatedly” knocked on the door of his room when he didn’t check out the next morning, and eventually called management to open the door, and that was when his body was found.

Officers determined the gunshot wound to be “self-inflicted,” saying there were no signs of foul play, and the case was handed over to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Earlier, Allison Holker Boss had reported her husband missing, with TMZ saying that she insisted it was uncharacteristic of him to disappear like that. She said there was no argument or issue; he just left the house and wouldn’t answer her calls. Law enforcement apparently went back to the family’s home — which was less than a mile from the Oak Tree Inn — to check the property for any clues as to his whereabouts, and shortly after the call came in from the motel.

This is undoubtedly a devastating time for tWitch’s friends and family. Our thoughts continue to go out to Allison Holker Boss and her three children, as well as everyone else affected by tWitch’s tragic passing. Tragically, it has been reported that the So You Think You Can Dance competitor-turned-judge has died at the age of 40.

News of tWitch's death was first shared by his wife, Allison Holker Boss, with whom he shares three children: Weslie, 14; Maddox, 6; and Zaia, 3. Boss reportedly entered an LAPD station on Tuesday in a panic, according to TMZ, while saying her husband left home without a vehicle, which he was not known to ever do. After a short while, a call came in for a shooting at an L.A. hotel, and it's there that Boss was found dead. The wound was described as being apparently self-inflicted, though suicide is not yet an official cause of death.

News of tWitch's death comes as a major shock to fans, as the entertainer has been as busy as ever on the small screen of late. Despite the highly publicized end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which went through some turmoil in its final years due to allegations made about the host's behavior, the DJ (who was eventually granted co-executive producer status in 2020) always had positive responses when addressing such complaints, and always spoke highly of DeGeneres herself. And he surrounded that show's conclusion with plenty of other gigs and appearances. 

In the past two years alone, Boss served in a hosting and/or judging capacity for So You Think You Can Dance's post-hiatus return, the final season of Ellen's Game of Games, the game show Clash of the Cover Bands, the short-lived The Real Dirty Dancing, and was also a guest judge in Sarah Hyland's streaming competition series Play-Doh Squished. (He also shared the screen with Hyland as a Modern Family guest star in 2018.) As well, he and Allison Holker played "Dad" and "Mom," respectively in Disney+'s holiday musical The Hip Hop Nutcracker, which premiered just three weeks before his death.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Stephen Boss first rose to fame during Season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance, and returned the next season to even more success, and later achieved All-Star status within the brand ahead of eventually landing behind the judge's table. He followed that up with acting and dancing roles in such projects as Step Up 3D, Step Up Revolution, and Step Up All In, as well as Ghostbusters and Magic Mike XXL. Over the years, he also showed off his skills on Dancing with the Stars, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings, Dance Like a Boss and more.

That’s why you might feel pretty old when I tell you that one of Ellen’s mini pop sensations, Sophia Grace, is all grown up and pregnant.

Sophia Grace Brownlee and her cousin, Rosie McClelland, were first invited to appear on Ellen back in 2011 when they were just 8 and 5 years old, respectively, after a cover they did of a Nicki Minaj song that went viral (and landed them a trip to the Grammys). Their first appearance was a hit due to their witty and endearing stage presence, and they were brought back to the show numerous times after, becoming regulars and receiving with their own segment. 

Now, Sophia Grace is all grown up at the age of 19 with a successful YouTube channel, and she has over three million followers keeping up with her life on a regular basis. Her most recent YouTube video contains a pregnancy announcement, during which she revealed that she is not only going to be a parent but she is pretty far along. In the clip, the Internet celebrity explained why she decided to keep the news hush hush for so long. Here it is in her own words:

Sophia Grace has posted to her YouTube channel a number of times throughout her pregnancy, and this is the first time fans have been met with the news. So that's probably why mentioned that it may come as a shock to viewers who loyally watch her content. She also says that her videos will be shifting to cover her journey and new stage of life, so it sounds like fans can look forward to seeing baby news and maybe even seeing the little one on the channel and watching the child grow up.

Some celebrities choose to keep their children off of social media, setting that boundary between their career and life in the limelight and maintaining their child’s privacy. Stars like Katherine Schwarzenegger have come up with creative ways to share their children. However, YouTubers tend to be more open to having their children appear on screen, as their lifestyle is more attuned to their fans seeing into their personal matters more frequently. Sophia Grace’s fans do seem thrilled with the news, saying in the comments that they feel as though they’ve watched her grow up on screen and are now witnessing her enter a major, new stage in her life.

The Ellen alum proudly showed off her growing baby bump in the video, standing up and doing a traditional pose typically reserved for those expecting. Times have certainly changed since Ellen fans became familiar with Sophia Grace and her sweet little British accent, as DeGeneres' program has even been replaced by The Kelly Clarkson Show since. It sounds like Sophia Grace is thrilled with the changes in her life though, and she can’t wait to enter into the next chapter of her life as a parent. While fans won’t be seeing her on a primetime TV schedule any time soon, it certainly sounds like her YouTube channel will have plenty of content for her fans. Charlie Puth has been belting out tunes as a radio staple for over 10 years now. The “Light Switch” singer got his start after posting covers on YouTube with his friend Emily Luther. He was soon discovered by Ellen DeGeneres, who signed him to her record label, eleveneleven in 2011. It sounds like a fairytale story, but the label was fraught with problems, and would be considered defunct in 2012, only a few years after its inception. Now, Charlie Puth is speaking out about his experience at the label, and his treatment there during the early days of his career. 

Puth was recently a guest on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, where he talked about getting his start in the music industry, and how DeGeneres played a part in this. Puth spoke candidly about the lack of support at the now defunct label, confessing,

Puth shared that he doesn't "talk shit on anybody" and that what happened in his career has never come up when he's been in the same space with Ellen DeGeneres. He also mentioned seeing her, feeling like little time had passed and that it should be "onward and upward." 

Meanwhile, he talked about how the pandemic helped him to reset where he was at, but it took some work and self-reflection, as he noted he had lost two people that he thought he needed in order to move forward and really make it in a music career, including the business relationship.

This comes shortly after Greyson Chance, who was also signed to the label, spoke about the total abandonment he felt at eleveneleven, and blamed DeGeneres for being opportunistic. The label dropped Chance when he started to underperform. Chance was one of the first artists the former talk show host signed to her record label, also after discovering him on YouTube. While Puth clearly agrees with Chance that he felt abandonment at eleveneleven, he also added that his situation was different, adding:

The criticism towards the environment at DeGeneres’s record label comes after controversy around the working environment at her famed daytime talk show was highly publicized. Many former staff members blamed producers of the show for a toxic workplace culture, and said DeGeneres herself was rude to staff. 

Following a slew of accusations and controversies, the comedian announced she would be ending her show in 2022, after 19 years of being on air. The accusations of DeGeneres’ behavior led to decreased ratings and the show went out with more of a whimper than a bang. Kelly Clarkson’s daytime show filled the longtime host's time slot. 

Charlie Puth has since moved on from his rocky experiences at eleveneleven, becoming a top recording artist with four Grammy nominations. He is no longer signed with Ellen Degeneres, and is now signed to Artist Partner Group. His fourth studio album titled Charlie! was released on October 7th, which was preceded by 5 hit singles.

Daytime TV viewers are seeing a huge shift in the landscape after a number of longtime talk shows came to an end this year. Ellen DeGeneres, for one, wrapped her show after 19 seasons, and The Wendy Williams Show was canceled after 13 seasons when its namesake host was unable to return for the final season amid health and financial struggles. To that end, Sherri Shepherd is stepping in with her own show, Sherri, and she sees a specific void in the daytime TV slate that she plans to fill.

Sherri Shepherd was one of many guest hosts who stepped in for Wendy Williams when she was unable to return for Season 13 of her show. The decision was eventually made to cancel The Wendy Williams Show and give the time slot permanently to Shepherd. However, the former co-host of The View told People, she’s going to put her own spin on her series, filling a hole that’s been left in the world of daytime TV, particularly since the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Shepherd said:

The Kelly Clarkson Show has been tapped to take over Ellen DeGeneres’ vacated time slot, and the American Idol winner is apparently putting her show through a complete overhaul in order to do that. Every host has their strengths, however, and where DeGeneres is known for her comedy, Kelly Clarkson is more musically inclined. Singing is and will likely remain a big part of the former Voice coach’s show, clearing the lane for Sherri Shepherd and comedy background.

The actress said as a guest host on The Wendy Williams Show, she stayed within the format that Wendy Williams had established, but with her own eponymous talk show, Sherri Shepherd looks forward to bringing her own flavor and finding “the lightness and the humor of a hot topic story.” She said:  

Sherri Shepherd seems excited about being able to call the shots on her own series, but when Sherri premieres, there’s one person who likely won’t be tuning in. Wendy Williams threw some shade at the woman who’s replacing her, saying that what Shepherd brings to the table is “really not my thing.” To each her own!

As well as Wendy Williams and Ellen DeGeneres, Maury Povich hung up his hat after a 31-year talk show career. NIck Cannon saw his talk show axed after just one season, and The Real was also canceled following the end of its eighth season. In the musical milieu, meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson will be joined by fellow American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson, who’s set to debut her own show this fall.

Plenty of celebrities spoke out in celebration of Ellen DeGeneres when the comedian closed the book on her award-winning The Ellen DeGeneres Show after 19 seasons, but Jennifer Aniston had an especially important role. The actress who served as the talk show’s first interview back in 2003 (and then showed up around 20 more times) helped her friend come full circle by appearing on the final show, and it turns out the Murder Mystery 2 actress had some pretty strong emotions while filming the last episode.

Jennifer Aniston’s first appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show came the year before Friends ended on NBC after 10 seasons. When the host sought advice on how to deal with the end of such a huge chapter in her life, Jennifer Aniston responded with humor — albeit dark humor — about getting divorced post-Friends and starting therapy. It seems the salad-loving actress may have been feeling the impending loss of Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show harder than we realized. She opened up to People about what it was like on that last day of filming, and she said the sadness actually started when she appeared earlier in the final season:

The Morning Show actress appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at least 20 times, which averages out to more than once per season. While Jennifer Aniston is certainly not left with as big of a hole in her schedule as the comedian herself, I can see how she could feel sad about not having that to look forward to. Aniston’s also done a lot of thinking about the end of Friends lately — thanks to Friends: The Reunion that hit streaming last year for HBO Max subscribers — and the unexpected heaviness she felt returning to that set, which may have contributed to some extra empathy for her longtime pal. 

Once the cameras were rolling and she and Ellen DeGeneres were on stage together, filming flowed naturally, as they looked back to that very first 2003 interview, and Jennifer Aniston gifted Ellen with a welcome mat, just as she had 19 years earlier. Apparently, Aniston said, they took steps to prevent themselves from getting emotional during the show:

It sounds like Jennifer Aniston is really feeling the loss of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, even if the end does mean that her friend gets to explore some of her other lifelong passions like animals and conservation. The Ellen DeGeneres Show just came to an end after 19 seasons, with a number of the host’s friends congratulating her on the achievement and many fans wondering what she’s going to be doing next. Ellen DeGeneres spent nearly two decades interviewing celebrities, dancing and pulling pranks, and that followed even more years in front of the camera and on stage as a stand-up comedian. However, it looks like her first big project following her talk show doesn’t have much to do with cameras — or even people — at all.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi are in Rwanda for the June 7 opening ceremony of the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The talk show host has been fascinated by primatologist Dian Fossey since she was 12 years old, and her passion inspired De Rossi to help fund the DFGF’s new campus in honor of her wife’s 60th birthday four years ago. DeGeneres spoke with THR about the impact the campus has made already, even before its official opening:

The campus opened to the public in February of this year, offering immersive and educational experiences, such as watching gorillas in the 360-degree Irmelin DiCaprio Theater (an auction was held to name the buildings, with Leonardo DiCaprio purchasing the theater in his mother’s name, and a computer lab to be named after his father, George). Portia De Rossi said she was inspired by Ellen DeGeneres’ passion for Dian Fossey’s work, and thought it would be the perfect gift, both for the milestone birthday and post-show project:

Portia De Rossi seems to only have her wife’s happiness in mind, as her other hope for her spouse post-talk show was for her to start doing stand-up comedy again because she’s so good at it and it brings her joy.

The plans to spend more time in Africa once the show ended have been in the works for a while. In fact, in the same interview last May that Ellen DeGeneres announced the end of her talk show, she told THR that she was hoping to get more involved with her passion for animals and conservation:

The opening ceremony for her campus to help save Rwanda’s gorillas is certainly an exciting way for Ellen DeGeneres to kick off her post-talk show life, and likely a welcome break from a long career in front of the camera. The road to The Ellen DeGeneres Show finale was an emotional one for fans and the host herself, but the moment has now come and gone. After officially signing off, Ellen DeGeneres now has time to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. There are really only a few people who have been in her situation: ending a massively popular talk show after a long and storied run. Of course, one of those people is none other than entertainment icon Oprah Winfrey. And DeGeneres has now revealed that Winfrey gave her some sage advice, which she didn't heed when she wrapped up her own series.

The comedian spoke about Oprah Winfrey while being interviewed by THR. Winfrey already dished out some on-air advice during Ellen DeGeneres’ final week on air, but these new comments seem to go even deeper. DeGeneres says the showbiz legend advised her to do one thing immediately following the end of her talk show -- take it easy for a while:

If anybody would know about jumping from one project to another at a rapid pace, it would be Oprah Winfrey. The Color Purple alum ended her talk show in 2004 after 25 seasons. And as mentioned by the comedian, Winfrey was preparing to launch her cable network, OWN around the same time. She didn’t have much downtime between those moments and other projects. And even today, it seems like the 68-year-old TV personality always seems to be working on something. 

Thankfully, though, the former Ellen host seems to be taking the advice to heart. As a result, she'll likely be enjoying a well-deserved break after working the daytime grind for almost two decades.

Oprah Winfrey isn't the only one to weigh in on Ellen DeGeneres' next steps. DeGeneres' wife, Portia de Rossi, gave her take on what her spouse should do next. She just wants her spouse to do what will make her happy and, at this point, it sounds like a break is indeed what she wants. And DeGeneres has even revealed that she has travel plans mapped out.

Her show may have just finished, but the many lovely messages left by celebrities like Oprah Winfrey indicate that the host's on-air presence is already missed. In turn, Ellen DeGeneres has already expressed her gratitude to those who've supported her all these years. This season the talk show host has been garnering advice from her final guests, and she asked the Murder Mystery 2 actress how she had dealt with the end of Friends after its 10-season run on NBC. Aniston joked that it was far more than her role as Rachel Green that came to an end at that time in her life:

Aniston, meanwhile, moved on with Vince Vaughn — her co-star in The Break-Up — but the relationship didn’t last long.

It doesn’t sound like the actress regrets any of her decisions, however, and she famously has remained close with Brad Pitt since their divorce. The two even participated in a steamy Fast Times at Ridgemont High virtual table read in 2020, where Jennifer Aniston said there was no oddness at all between the former couple reading the parts of Brad and Linda. The actress also remains close friends with Justin Theroux, who she started dating after they acted together in Wanderlust in 2010 and were married from 2015 to 2018. 

The audience at the final taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show applauded Jennifer Aniston’s admission that she started therapy when Friends and her marriage ended, and while it was surely a huge transition period in her life, it is pretty crazy in hindsight that she was able to wipe the slate clean for new projects and relationships. After 19 seasons, The Ellen DeGeneres Show came to an end on May 26. The longtime talk show host celebrated her last episode by welcoming back Jennifer Aniston — her very first guest back in 2003 — as well as Billie Eilish and Pink, and many tears were shed over Ellen DeGeneres’ impact on daytime television and beyond. Only a few celebrities may have been in the studio for the comedian’s final on-air moments, but a number of A-listers sent her loving well-wishes after the show’s finale aired, including Kim Kardashian and Chris Pratt. 

The final episode featured a montage depicting the ways both television and Ellen DeGeneres’ life have changed since the show's beginning, as well as one last dance with DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss, who lauded his longtime TV colleague, saying:

The actress couldn’t help but look back to the past as she and Ellen DeGeneres recalled her frequent visits to the show. In preparing for her show’s conclusion, DeGeneres asked the actress what it was like to say goodbye to the long-running sitcom.

Ending a successful series would be an emotional affair for any actor. For Kunis, the show was more like a family to her than a job since she spent her formative teen years on the sitcom. That factor came up, as Kunis recalled the life events she experienced during the series’ run.

Of course, Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith were already on board as Kitty and Red Forman, who will be taking care of Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia for the summer-set series. So, it’s only a matter of time before viewers get to see what hijinks Kunis will once again get sucked into while back in Point Place.

Ellen DeGeneres has made an impact on many people’s lives through her daytime talk show over the past 19 seasons, and not just for regular viewers like you and me. In the final week of episodes before The Ellen DeGeneres Show goes off the air, the comedian is checking with some big Hollywood names, and Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence kicked off the farewell celebration with an admission about how much the talk show host really meant to her, and it had to do with going “Number 2.”

It seems that Jennifer Lawrence, who is Ellen DeGeneres’ neighbor, somehow let it slip to the comedian that from the time she was about 13- to 17-years-old (her “formative years”) she used to pretend she was getting interviewed while sitting on the toilet. The talk show host was all too happy to turn this fantasy into reality, and she called the actress on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to ask her some questions while Lawrence did her business. DeGeneres asked her if the honor was hers alone, or if other hosts were part of the bathroom ritual, and the Don’t Look Up actress had a pretty hilarious confession:

Ellen DeGeneres was honored, obviously. Jennifer Lawrence insisted the honor was all hers, because look where she is now. She jokingly advised others with big bathroom aspirations to “Take your time" and "don’t rush it,” saying she’d somehow been able to manifest these practice sessions into a career where she really does get interviewed by these heavy hitters. So what were the questions that DeGeneres would ask of Lawrence all those years ago in Lawrence's toilet scenarios? The actress provided a sample question:

The Friends actress was Ellen’s first guest back in 2003, and she’ll be her final interviewee as well. 

Jennifer Aniston is no stranger to the show; in fact, this won’t be the first time she has appeared during the farewell season. Aniston originally returned to help kick off the final stretch of episodes, much to the delight of the host. Over the course of 19 seasons, Aniston has been featured on over 20 episodes, so it will be a fitting — and likely tearful — end to the talk show’s reign.

Every time a new show arrives on TV or any one of the various streaming services like Hulu and HBO Max, something has to get cut to make room for the new growth. It has happened before and will continue to happen as long as the medium is alive or until the lights finally go out. And 2022 is no different, as some of the biggest shows of the past decade (or longer) like Better Call Saul, Peaky Blinders, and The Walking Dead Season 11 will all air their final episodes at some point this year.

Below is a rather comprehensive list of all the TV shows that are ending or cancelled in 2022. There’s a lot to go over here, so let’s get started before another show is giving the axe or added to the list of titles leaving Netflix.

4400

The CW’s reboot of 4400, which followed a group of people who suddenly return after going missing with no memory of what happened, was one of the numerous series cancelled in May 2022. The show only lasted one season after premiering in October 2021.

A Discovery Of Witches

In December 2021, Digital Spy reported that the third and final season of the popular romantic drama A Discovery of Witches starring Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer would start up January 7, 2022. The series, which debuted in the UK in 2018 can be watched in its entirety on the AMC+ streaming platform.

Animal Kingdom

In April 2022, TNT finally announced the release date of the sixth and final season of the drama series Animal Kingdom, which is set to kick off Sunday, June 19, bringing an end to the epic saga of the Cody crime family.

Archive 81

Fans of the supernatural horror series Archive 81 were in for a shocker when Netflix announced the show, which was based on the podcast of the same name, would not be returning for a second season.

Arthur

The PBS Kids series Arthur, which is based on the collection of children’s books of the same name, has been releasing new episodes on a fairly consistent basis since September 1996. That run ends in 2022 when the show’s 25th and final season debuts, per the New York Times. However, PBS is leaving the door open for more Arthur content in the future.

After Life

The Ricky Gervais black comedy series After Life has called Netflix home its entire run dating back to March 2019, but that comes to an end when the third and final set of episodes debuted on the streaming service on January 14, 2022. The show’s final season was confirmed by the Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter account in December 2021.

Atlanta

Although it’s not one of the shows that got the ax, Donald Glover’s beloved FX series, Atlanta, will be ending its run following the release of the fourth and final season, which is slated to premiere at some point in fall 2022.

B Positive 

The Thomas Middleditch- and Annaleigh Ashford-starring CBS sitcom, B Positive, never really took off with audiences throughout its two-season run, which resulted in the network pulling the plug after the Season 2 finale in May 2015.

Batwoman

Gotham lost one of its protectors in April 2022 when The CW announced that Batwoman would not be returning for a fourth season, making the Season 3 finale also the final episode.

Better Call Saul

Since 2015, Vince Gilligan’s Better Call Saul has been one of the best shows, not just on AMC but TV in general. But everything must come to an end at some point, and that time has come for the the Bob Odenkirk-led dark comedy series. Better Call Saul Season 6 debuted April 18, 2022.

Better Things

The FX comedy series Better Things will come to an end when the show’s fifth and final season premiered on February 28, 2022. The series, which followed single mother and working actress Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon, who also co-created the show alongside Louis C.K.) first debuted back in September 2016, and was called a “frank and funny look at womanhood” in the CinemaBlend review.

The Big Leap

The Fox musical comedy-drama, The Big Leap, which followed a group of people who put it all on the line in a reality dance competition, won’t be returning for more episodes after Fox cancelled the series following one season, in March 2022.

Black-ish

Kenya Barris’ successful and influential comedy series black-ish kicked off its eighth and final season on ABC on January 4, 2022, starting the final chapter in the story of sitcom that has spawned multiple spinoffs and received numerous awards over the years including a Golden Globe, a Primetime Emmy, and more than two dozen NAACP Image Awards.

Black Market With Michael K. Williams

The Vice TV docuseries Black Market with Michael K. Williams will come to an end after its second and final season premiered January 10, 2022 on the network, per Variety. The series, which originally premiered back in 2016, was forced to come to an end following the shocking and untimely death of host Michael K. Williams in September 2021.

Bull

The popular CBS legal drama series, Bull, which centered on Michael Weatherly’s tenacious psychologist and jury expert, is not returning for a seventh season, though it got a chance to wrap things up with a two-part series finale in May 2022.

Charmed

After four seasons, The CW cancelled the Charmed reboot series in May 2022, alongside several other of the network’s notable shows.

Claws

The final episode of the TNT dramedy series Claws will air its final episode when Season 4 concluded February 6, 2022, a little less than five years after it debuted on the cable network. The fourth and final season of the hit series was announced back in October 2019, per Deadline, and premiered in December 2021.

Cooking With Paris

Just a few months after it made its Netflix debut in August 2021, Cooking with Paris was cancelled by the streaming service. The Paris Hilton-led cooking program, which featured a number of guest stars and hilarious culinary situations, was not renewed for a second season, per Deadline.

Dead To Me

After three seasons, the Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate-led dark comedy Dead to Me came to an end on Netflix. The finale, which offered closure, aired in November 2022.

The Dr. Oz Show

The Dr. Oz Show, the daytime talk series hosted by Dr. Mehmet Oz ended after 13 seasons and nearly 1,700 episodes on January 14, 2022. The talk show ended its run after Oz announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, per Variety.

Dynasty

The 2017 revival of Dynasty was another series that was cancelled by The CW in May 2022, bringing an end to the show’s five-season run that was just four episodes away from hitting the 100-episode mark.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show

The Ellen DeGeneres Show will complete its historic daytime run when the syndicated talk show completes its 19th and final season at some point in 2022. The announcement to end things came from DeGeneres herself in 2021, when she said she needed something new to challenge her.

Endeavour

After nearly a decade on the airwaves, the British detective series Endeavour will finally come to an end following the conclusion of its ninth and final season, according to TV Line.  

The Endgame

The Morena Baccarin and Ryan Michelle Bathé-led The Endgame joined the list of cancelled NBC shows in May 2022, according to Variety, bringing an end to the drama series after just one season on the network.

The Expanse

After six seasons (and two different homes), the popular sci-fi series The Expanse aired its final episode on January 14, 2022, on Amazon a little less than six years to the date of its debut on SyFy. 

The Good Fight

The Paramount+ (and CBS All Access before that) legal drama The Good Fight will come to an end following the conclusion of its sixth season, which premiered in September 2022.

Good Sam

In May 2022, CBS pulled the plug on the freshman medical drama series, Good Sam, that saw Jason Isaacs and Sophia Bush play a father-daughter doctor duo. According to Deadline, the series was the lowest-rated scripted program on CBS in the 2021-2022 season.

Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie, the long-running Netflix comedy series starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two women who become friends when their husbands announce they are in love with one another, came to an end with its seventh season. The first crop of episodes premiered in August 2021 with the second following on April 29, 2022.

His Dark Materials

The fantasy drama series His Dark Materials (BBC One in The U.K.; HBO in The U.S.) will be back for a third and final season in December 2022

How We Roll

Not even two months after Pete Holmes’ bowling-centric CBS comedy series, How We Roll, made its debut, the network decided to give the show the ax in May 2022, according to Deadline.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

The Prime Video series I Know What You Did Last Summer, the remake series of the 1997 teen slasher of the same name, won’t receive a second season after Amazon decided to give the series the axe in January 2022, according to Deadline.

In The Dark

The fourth and final season of The CW’s police procedural series, In the Dark, will premiere on the popular network on June 6, 2022, per Deadline.

Kenan

Kenan Thompson may be the longest-running Saturday Night Live cast member, but his return to the world of sitcoms will be short-lived, as NBC cancelled his Kenan series following two seasons, in May 2022, according to Variety.

Kevin Can F**K Himself

The AMC dark comedy series Kevin Can F**K Himself starring Annie Murphy concluded its brief, two-season run in 2022.

Killing Eve

Killing Eve Season 4 premiered February 27, 2022 on BBC America, started the final set of episodes following the complicated lives of intelligence agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and skilled assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). The eight-episode final season was announced in 2021, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Legacies

When the Legacies Season 4 finale aired on June 16, 2022, it was also the final episode for The CW’s fantasy drama series, which was among the numerous shows cancelled by the network in May 2022.

Legends Of Tomorrow

The Arrowverse got a little smaller in April 2022, when it was announced that Legends of Tomorrow would not be returning for an eighth season on The CW, bringing an end to the long-running and popular superhero series.

Locke And Key

The Netflix fantasy horror series Locke & Key will came to an end in August 202 when the show’s third and final season premiered on the streaming service.

Love, Victor

In February 2022 it was announced that Hulu’s romantic comedy-drama series, Love, Victor, would be coming to an end following the conclusion of the show’s third season, which premiered on June 15, 2022.

Made For Love

The Cristin Milioti-led tech dramedy Made for Love was cancelled by HBO Max after two seasons in June 2022, according to EW.

Magnum, P.I.

Fans of the Magnum P.I. reboot series on CBS will have to find another way to spend their Friday nights, as the long-running action crime drama was cancelled just days after the Season 4 finale in May 2022, per Deadline.

Maury

After 30 seasons and more than 3,600 episodes, the daytime talk show Maury aired its final episode in May 2022, just a few months after host Maury Povich announced he would be retiring.

Mr. Mayor

Ted Danson’s NBC sitcom Mr. Mayor, which followed a former ad executive played by the beloved actor as he ran and became the mayor of Los Angeles, was cancelled by NBC in May 2022, per The Hollywood Reporter, bringing an end to its two-season run.

Naomi

The superhero drama series, Naomi, was another show cancelled by The CW in May 2022, a decision that was announced just days after the Season 1 finale aired.

New Amsterdam

The popular medical drama series, New Amsterdam, was cancelled by NBC in March 2022, but the show starring Ryan Eggold as a medical director who comes up with a revolutionary way of caring for patients will return for a fifth and final season, per Deadline.

Nick Cannon

In March 2022 it was announced that another daytime talk show would be closing up shop, as Nick Cannon was cancelled after just one season on TV.

Ordinary Joe

The NBC drama series Ordinary Joe, which debuted in September 2021, was cancelled by the network in March 2022, according to Variety. 

Ozark

The popular crime drama series Ozark, which has been one of the best shows on Netflix since its 2017 debut, ended things with a two-part, 14-episode final season in 2022. The first part of Ozark Season 4 premiered January 21, 2022, with the second half following in April.

Peaky Blinders

The worldwide sensation that is Peaky Blinders will completed its run with the sixth and final season in April 2022. But it’s not the end of the road for Steven Knight’s crime drama as a film adaptation is set to enter production in 2023.

Queen Sugar

Ava DuVernay’s OWN drama series Queen Sugar is another show that will end things in 2022. In November 2021, Deadline reported that the series, which debuted in 2016, wrapped up in November 2022.

Raised By Wolves

The science-fiction series Raised By Wolves, created by Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and Aaron Guzikowski, was cancelled by HBO Max in June 2022, according to Variety. The series, which debuted in 2020 on the streaming service, completed its second and final season in March 2022.

Roswell, New Mexico

When Roswell, New Mexico Season 4 starts up on The CW in June 2022, it will be the final set of episodes for The CW’s sci-fi drama series, which was cancelled alongside several other scripted programs in May 2022.

Search Party

The HBO Max dark comedy series Search Party returned for a fifth and final season on January 7, 2022, bringing an end to the Alia Shawkat-led show that originally started out on TBS back in 2016. 

This Is Us

One of the most successful runs on broadcast TV in recent memory will come to an end with the conclusion of This Is Us Season 6, which officially got underway January 4, 2022 on NBC. 

The Walking Dead

Perhaps the biggest TV show that came to an end in 2022, The Walking Dead concluded its 11-season run on AMC. The decision to bring the long-running series to a close was first announced in 2020, when it was revealed that the supercharged season would consist of 24 episodes.

United States Of Al

Just one week before United States of Al Season 2 was set to conclude on CBS, the Chuck Lorre-produced sitcom was cancelled by the network, according to EW.

The end is near for The Ellen DeGeneres Show as, later this month, the longtime daytime TV offering is set to conclude after nearly two decades. It’ll truly mark the end of an era, and many viewers are sure to have a mixture of emotions about it. With only a few weeks left in its run, details on the show’s final episode have surfaced, and it seems the show will end just as it began. In addition, Jennifer Aniston will be getting in on the fun as well. 

It was announced via Instagram that the final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show will indeed feature an appearance from the Friends alum, creating a full-circle moment for the NBC staple. When the show kicked off its run in 2003, she was the first guest the titular host welcomed. So it’s only fitting that she be featured as the final interviewee as well. And she won’t be alone, as Pink (who wrote the show’s theme song) will also be present as will Billie Eilish. This won’t be the first time that Jennifer Aniston has appeared during Ellen’s farewell season. Aniston originally returned to help kick off the final stretch of episodes, much to the delight of the host. Over the course of the talk show’s run, Aniston has been featured on over 20 episodes, so it’s more than evident that she’s been a major fixture since the production’s inception. 

At the end of April, Ellen DeGeneres confirmed that she had taped the final installment of the series. In that same social media message, she shared some thankful sentiments with the fans for the 19-year journey. As she put it, getting to produce the program has “been the greatest privilege of my life and has brought me incredible joy.”

Now that production has officially wrapped, the media personality is going to have to find a new gig, and she certainly has a variety of options. Her wife, Portia de Rossi, shared her own thoughts on the matter when she was a guest this season. De Rossi suggested that her spouse could take on stand-up comedy again but, ultimately, she just wants her to do something that makes her happy

Ellen has seen a decrease in viewers this season, but there’s a chance many may be tempted to tune in to see her sign off for the last time. The episode will undoubtedly be emotional but, with Jennifer Aniston and others stopping by to help close things out, there should still be plenty of fun.

Ellen DeGeneres is about to have a lot more time on her hands, as her hit daytime talk show is ending after 19 seasons. The former sitcom star recently shared a thankful message with fans after she taped the final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which is set to air May 26, and now that it’s really over, what’s coming next? DeGeneres’ wife, Portia De Rossi, weighed in on what she thinks the longtime host's best next move would be.

When Ellen DeGeneres announced the final guests who would be interviewed on the show, among them was Arrested Development actress Portia De Rossi, whom DeGeneres has been married to for 13 years. The comedian took the opportunity on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to get her wife's opinion on what her next career project should be, and De Rossi had a specific idea about what she thinks Ellen would enjoy:

Ellen DeGeneres seemed amused by her wife’s answer and recalled that Portia De Rossi didn’t have that opinion back in 2018 when the comedian did her stand-up special Relatable for Netflix. The Finding Dory voice actor recalled De Rossi being “petrified” about Ellen’s decision to do stand-up again after 15 years. However, after seeing her performance, De Rossi agreed with DeGeneres’ statement that she wanted to go back out on tour with the comedian:

Ellen DeGeneres started her career performing stand-up comedy in the 1980s, and was successful enough to land her own sitcom, Ellen, which premiered on ABC in 1994. It was during the fourth season when her character Ellen Morgan famously came out as gay, mirroring the actress’ real-life coming out on The Oprah Winfrey Show. She found long-term success with her talk show, but has struggled with ratings in the past couple of years amid accusations that the show fostered a toxic workplace culture.

When production returned to the studio for Season 18 following COVID shutdowns, the ratings continued to decline, and despite the number of people who tuned in to see her address the workplace allegations, viewership subsequently fell by 40 percent. The host maintains that the drop in ratings did not contribute to her decision to end her talk show. She cited her need “to be challenged” in new ways as a key factor in the choice. Could "returning to the stage for a comedy tour" serve as one of her challenges?

Along with The Ellen DeGeneres Show coming to an end, it was also announced in January that her game show Ellen’s Game of Games was canceled by NBC after four seasons. It doesn't seem likely that she'll be gone for good from the small screen in the coming years, given her work as a producer, but it'll definitely be on a more limited basis.

So will Portia De Rossi get her wish to accompany her wife to Las Vegas for more stand-up? Launching a daytime talk show and having it go on to become a quick success might be the very definition of difficult. So, when the host of such a show leaves the air after a long tenure, you can bet that it makes them consider all of the fans who helped them get to where they are. Such can be said for Ellen DeGeneres, who recently shared a thankful message with her fans for the 19-year journey she’s had on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after filming her final episode.

How Did Ellen DeGeneres Thank Fans After Filming Her Final Talk Show Episode?

While it’s fair to say that every television show survives because of its fans, it might be even more true for talk shows, where the personality who leads the proceedings every day has to be fully embraced by the audience in order for the show to have a shot at continuing. For nearly all of her 19 seasons on the air, that has been completely true for Ellen DeGeneres (who spoke about the end of her show last May), so after filming her last episode of Ellen on April 28, she took to Twitter to thank her loyal fanbase for sticking with her:

I’m sure that DeGeneres’ diehard fans would certainly agree that her show held firm and kept her original goal alive of making viewers laugh for an hour, no matter what else was happening in the world. But, that has been quite a bit trickier in the last two years.

Even though DeGeneres will likely rank as one of the most successful daytime talk show hosts in history for many years to come, what had been a nearly perfect public image came under fire in a big way in 2020. Mid-July of that year saw former employees begin to come forward with allegations of Ellen being a toxic workplace, with claims ranging from reports of racial discrimination to workers being fired for taking medical leave. Eventually, claims of sexual misconduct, harassment, and assault from dozens of former employees also surfaced, all of which led to an investigation and Ellen later firing several top producers.

This led to a number of additional issues, both for DeGeneres and her long-running show. Stories about her personal, supposed bad behavior started to either circulate for the first time or come to light again. That, added to the reports about how some of her staff had alleged treated people, led DeGeneres to see declining ratings over the past couple of seasons, with Ellen’s Game of Games even being cancelled earlier this year.

Ellen DeGeneres has said that she decided to end her show because it wasn’t “a challenge anymore,” and it had nothing to do with all of the behind the scenes controversy (though some of Ellen’s ex-staffers had different thoughts on why she was quitting). Regardless of the reason, though, she’s now done something that few daytime talk show hosts have done by completing Season 19, and the best thing to do would be to pay thanks to the fans who helped her make it this far. 

The entire daytime talk show climate seems to be in upheaval mode, as longtime staples including The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Wendy Williams Show and Maury are all coming to an end in 2022, as well as Nick Cannon, which was canceled after just one season. Now you can add one more name to that list, as The Real will also be ending its run after eight seasons. 

Warner Bros. decided to end The Real — which featured a format similar to The View that targeted a younger audience — after Fox declined to pick up the show for a ninth season, Variety reported. It's stated that the decision to pull the plug was reportedly unrelated to the upcoming launch of The Jennifer Hudson Show. Co-host Loni Love posted about the cancellation on her Instagram page, ultimately blaming the pandemic for the show’s fate:

It sounds like the co-hosts, who also included Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Garcelle Beauvais, were aware of the financial strain being put on the show and really went to lengths to try to continue in the difficult circumstances. And by all means, they were certainly justified in their attempts. In its eight seasons, The Real won three Daytime Emmy Awards and two NAACP Image Awards. 

Garcelle Beauvais also took to social media following the announcement, lauding the work of the cast and crew:

The Real’s cancellation comes amid a slew of other moves on the daytime talk show scene. The Jennifer Hudson Show is set to make its premiere this fall, which will replace The Ellen Degeneres Show as Warner Bros.’ flagship daytime talk show. Meanwhile, Hudson’s fellow American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson will take over Degeneres’ time slot when the Finding Dory star’s show comes to an end after 19 seasons.

Another veteran host, Maury Povich, will drop the mic on his 31-year talk show career later this year. New episodes of Maury will run through September before the 83-year-old host begins retirement. 

Wendy Williams had her talk show canceled after 13 seasons amid ongoing questions regarding her health. A series of guest hosts filled in for Williams on the final season of The Wendy Williams Show, as the host battled COVID, Graves disease and other issues. Eventually the decision was made to permanently replace Williams with Sherri Shepherd, who is set to debut Sherri this fall.

Nick Cannon was also caught up in the daytime TV shakeup, with his self-titled talk show getting the ax after just one season. The show seemed to provide an emotional outlet for the actor, as he dealt with some pretty heavy life events in that single season. Most notably the host had raw and honest conversations about the death of his infant son Zen to brain cancer.

The chance of The Real's cancellation being reversed in the near future isn't entirely negligible, since stranger things have happened in the world of TV. But it's probably best not to get anyone's hopes up just yet.

Channing Tatum is in the business of driving women wild — not just with his own disarmingly good looks and amazing dance moves, which are on full display in Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL, but also through the shows he’s not a part of, including Magic Mike Live and HBO Max’s reality series Finding Magic Mike. But that might lead to some awkward moments when the women going crazy for that lovely stripper action are the wives of your friends. That’s the situation Tatum found himself in recently, when he apologized to Dax Shepard after Kristen Bell had quite the experience at a show in London.

Kristen Bell has been married to actor Dax Shepard since 2013, and it’s a good thing this adorable couple is so secure with each other, because the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star gave rave reviews to the Magic Mike franchise after catching one of the live shows. In talking on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Bell even said the experience was on par with a couple of other big milestone moments:

Okay, so allow me to pause for a second and book a flight to London … It sounds like that was a great experience, especially since Kristen Bell said she wasn’t sure at first that Magic Mike Live would really be her vibe. It was certainly a strong enough opinion that Ellen Degeneres felt she had to bring it up when she spoke to Channing Tatum on her show a few weeks later. 

The Lost City actor told the talk show host he’d heard about the actress’ glowing praise and hilariously apologized to her husband for eliciting such a reaction:

I’m sure Dax Shepard has absolutely no hard feelings toward Channing Tatum, and the two actors apparently know each other pretty well. It’s still funny to think about Tatum having to answer to his friends about how their wives react to the stripper shows. There’s more to come, too. Magic Mike 3 is currently in production on its way to an HBO Max release. 

Though the Step Up actor had previously said he didn’t want to do a third movie, he recently revealed that his two conditions when agreeing to another sequel were to make “the Super Bowl of stripper movies” and to have a really strong female central character.

Kelly Clarkson always seems to have a bunch of things going on all at once, and the changes have been coming fast and furious lately for the multi-hyphenate, whose divorce was recently finalized. Not only did she make a huge move by legally changing her name to Kelly Brianne, but it looks like the American Song Contest co-host is also preparing to make some revamps to her popular daytime talk show.

When The Ellen Degeneres Show airs its last episode on Thursday, May 26, Kelly Clarkson is set to shift over into the 3 p.m. ET time slot (The Kelly Clarkson Show currently airs in the hour preceding Ellen). Shifting forward an hour might not be a huge difference in and of itself, but according to an insider, it appears the American Idol winner is taking the opportunity to incorporate some new creative changes. The insider told US Weekly: 

First of all, I’m so glad Kelly Clarkson is taking some time off to vacation with her two kids, River and Remington. The divorce proceedings between the singer and Brandon Blackstock were long and hard on all involved, and now that things are settled (hopefully), I love that they’re getting away. But what kind of changes are being planned for The Kelly Clarkson Show? The insider didn’t provide any details, which may not even be ironed out yet anyway, so we’re really left to speculate. 

Currently in its third season, The Kelly Clarkson show is known and beloved for its fun  celebrity interviews, Clarkson’s always-amazing “Kelly-oke” song covers and ridiculous games. No matter what happens to any of the specific segments currently utilized, I can’t imagine there won’t be singing. Singing is to Kelly Clarkson what dancing is to Ellen Degeneres. so my guess is that there’s no reason to worry about
Kelly-oke going the way of the dodo-oke.

I also don’t think we’ll see the name of the talk show change, despite the “Stronger” singer filing paperwork to legally go by Kelly Brianne. She explained that the name change was for her personal life only, and Kelly Clarkson will continue to be her professional moniker, as it always has been.

The opportunity for The Voice coach to take over the 3 p.m. ET time slot came when Ellen Degeneres announced her decision to end her talk show after 19 years. The past couple of years have been hard for the comedian, as the show was investigated after multiple allegations of workplace toxicity and sexual misconduct. The host said that’s not the reason the show came to an end — despite continuously losing viewers — and that 2022 was the end of her contract. And when the TV gods close one door, a window is opened for Clarkson to leap through, smiling all the way.

It’s not over yet, though, as Ellen Degeneres still has a couple of months on the air before handing her time slot over to Kelly Clarkson. You can catch The Kelly Clarkson Show on NBC at 2 p.m. ET until May 26, at which time the singer will switch to 3 p.m. ET. We’ve known for months now that Ellen DeGeneres was getting close to retiring from daytime television. It’s a moment that happens for every popular daytime talk show host at one point. The fans had to say goodbye to Rosie O’Donnell, they had to say goodbye to Oprah Winfrey, and on May 26th, 2022 it will be Ellen’s turn. The show made the announcement today and revealed some final guests, also sharing a comment from the host herself along with a roundup of memorable moments over the years leading up to the big finale. It’s only fitting that Ellen DeGeneres’ wife Portia de Rossi gets one of those final slots, but the name I’m really most interested in seeing here is Dave Letterman. Of all of the final guests, only Letterman can really know how it feels to end a long-running talk show and transition into something next. For him, that was a big beard and a very lucrative Netflix show (that interestingly also featured Kim Kardashian). For Ellen DeGeneres, who knows? No offense to First Lady Michelle Obama or GOAT Serena Williams, but that’s the interview I’m most excited to tune in for. 

DeGeneres dealt with controversy during the pandemic after a bombshell report made claims about a toxic work environment on set, though Ellen wasn't specifically cited. Ellen later addressed those claims, but by May of last year, she'd decided her show was coming to an end. She's opened up about ending The Ellen Show already, feeling the series had reached the end of its run "creatively" and simply saying: "It's time." 

It’s hard to believe, but it’s really the end of an era. While The Ellen Show might be going out with more of a whimper than a bang in some ways, it’s worth remembering that Ellen is a good interviewer and has made a lot of people laugh, cry and dance over the years. She made a mark on daytime television in a way that probably would have been hard for anyone else, particularly given she had to follow Oprah Winfrey in that role. 3000+ episodes of her show have been produced over a period of nearly 20 years and those programs, interviews and bits generate billions of views every single year. It is, simply put, the end of an era. 

The end is near for Ellen DeGerenes’ daytime talk show run, as the veteran host is set to conclude her eponymous series this spring after a 19-season run. During this final stretch of episodes, DeGeneres has continued to welcome a variety of stars to the studios, yet the slew of celebrity guests don’t appear to be resulting in higher ratings. The show has had a difficult time maintaining its audience as of late and numbers are reportedly continuing to drop across the board. And on top of all of this, Degeneres recently saw another one of her shows get cancelled. 

Ellen’s Game of Games has officially received the axe from NBC after running for four seasons, according to Deadline. The series debuted on the network in 2017 and would ultimately air eight episodes during its inaugural season. The reality competition program was initially met with strong ratings but, as noted by the trade, viewerships steadily began to drop. This decline became especially prominent during the show’s fourth season, which aired 20 episodes from fall 2020 to spring 2021. 

Spun off from the popular Ellen segment of the same name, Game of Games saw contestants participate in a variety of events over four rounds. Popular segments like “Blindfolded Musical Chairs” and “You Bet Your Wife” were among the challenges competitors played through. From there, the winner of each round advanced to the “Know or Go” game, and whoever won that round would get to compete in the high-pressure “Hotter Hands” event. In it, one attempted to answer as many questions as they could in only 60 seconds. 

The cancellation of the game show is merely a one portion of the ratings losses Ellen DeGeneres has experienced over the past year. Ellen was first reported to be having ratings trouble in October 2020. This came on the heels of the backlash the host received after the show was accused of fostering a toxic workplace culture. By the time production on Season 18 returned to the studio (after the COVID quarantine) in January 2021, ratings continued to slip. Many did tune in to see her address the workplace allegations, but viewership subsequently declined by 40% percent. 

By the spring of 2021, the once-highly popular show was reported to be drawing less than 1 million viewers and only managed to amass a total of 900,000 total viewers during the first two weeks of April. The show managed to average around 1.4 million total viewers an episode during its 2020-2021 season, which marked a 44% decline from the 2.6 million it amassed over the previous season. These losses have effectively helped build momentum for Kelly Clarkson’s talk show, which will be taking over Ellen DeGeneres’ timeslot when her show ends.

Despite the backlash and drop in ratings, the Finding Dory star says those things did not contribute to her decision to end her talk show. She cited her “to be challenged” in new ways as a key factor in the choice. As she put it, after 19 years, her daytime gig is “just not a challenge anymore.” 

There’s a chance a sizable number of viewers will tune in to see her sign off one final time this spring, which tends to happen when TV staples say their goodbyes. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see what the exact size of that audience turns out to be. Aside from that, though, some may also want to keep an eye out for any new TV ventures from the star now that Game of Games has finished its run.

Over the years, there have been plenty of iconic talk show interviews featuring celebrities, and Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson definitely holds one of them. Back in 2019, the actress paid a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where the topic of Johnson's birthday came up. And when DeGeneres claimed she hadn't received an invite, the star famously shot down her claim and provided some receipts. The actress likely won't be able to escape the widely watched chat as time goes on, which was evidenced by Drew Barrymore hilariously calling her out for it.

On a recent edition of “Drew’s News” on The Drew Barrymore Show, the two stars caught up with each other a bit. They discussed a number of topics, including neighbors, and the Lost Daughter star just happens to live next door to Jimmy Kimmel and his family. The actress slyly mentioned that the two have parties quite often, which she isn’t invited typically invited. With this, the host subtly mentioned that invite interview:

Since Dakota Johnson made that appearance on Ellen, it's been memed and mentioned many, many times. It’s hilarious that the two brought up the interview without actually bringing it up. Hopefully, there aren’t any hard feelings with Ellen DeGeneres but, in all honestly, it’s too perfect:

Last year, fans still hadn't forgiven Ellen DeGeneres, as they believed that she came off a bit strong while asserting that the actress didn’t invite her to the party. Of course, this situation paled in comparison to the backlash DeGeneres received following the allegations of less-than-ideal working conditions on the set of her talk show.

Meanwhile, Dakota Johnson will be starring in a new romance movie, though it will likely be quite different from her time as Anastasia Steele in the popular Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. Johnson is also set to appear in Persuasion, opposite Henry Golding. The film is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1817 novel, though it's set in the present. The story follows a young woman from a wealthy family who crosses paths with her former fiancé after a seven-year separation.

Hopefully, as the actress continues to do press for her projects, she doesn’t come have any interviews that turn take an awkward turn. But whatever happens, one can expect that she'll be honest and direct with whoever she's speaking with. It'll also be interesting to see if she returns to The Ellen DeGeneres Show before the host bows out. But in the meantime, I suggest you check out the interview a few more times, because it honestly just gets more engaging with each watch.

There are a number of spooky things that many of us would likely rather not have to deal with during our lives. While I imagine that things like demonic possession, werewolf attacks, and being enthralled by a vampire all rank pretty high on that list, living in a house with a ghost is probably also among one of the top items. On the other hand, actress Octavia Spencer does believe she has a ghost in her home, but recently told Ellen DeGeneres that she actually loves him.

Now, before you start down the wrong path and think that Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is embroiled in her very own ghost sex situation, she wasn’t saying that she’s in love with the presence in her home. When Spencer appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently, she simply revealed that her house-bound spirit just seems to be a gentle sort who likes to help her out in certain situations. As she explained:

I mean, if you’re going to live in a house that’s inhabited by a specter of some sort, it does seem like it would be best for that ghostly soul to at least be helpful to you in some way, right? Even though Spencer clearly believes that her ghost is the person who owned the home previously, it could really be anyone, so it’s good that they’ve found a purpose in the afterlife by running off unsavory individuals and acting as kind of a “protector” for the star.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have something that magically kept a variety of stupid or just plain bad people away from what is supposed to be your sanctuary? Whether you’re a homeowner, or the proud occupant of an apartment, you’ve probably had at least one instance where you ended up regretting having someone over. With a protector ghost on your side, though, there would be no need to kick that person out or have a difficult conversation about how they’re not invited back. The ghostie could just give them the whim whams and convince them that your home is not the place to be. Easy peasy!

But, before you think that living with a ghost has been 100% grand for Octavia Spencer, with it cleaning her kitchen and running bubble baths for her or something, it turns out that it does get a little creepy here and there. When DeGeneres asked if anything weird ever happens in her house because of the haunting, Spencer continued:

Yeah, see, that’s the part that worries me. It’s all fun and games when your ghost keeps burglars away from the house, but what if you inadvertently piss it off? Might it retaliate in a way that is far less subtle and easy to deal with than messing with the lights and doors? Honestly, I hope me and Octavia Spencer never find out. 

As Blake Shelton prepares to spend his first Christmas as Gwen Stefani’s husband, he can’t seem to shake one ghost from his past. Adam Levine, former coach of The Voice and constant Shelton rival, famously didn’t receive an invitation to the musical duo’s July nuptials, despite being a witness to their budding romance as coaches on the NBC singing competition. Shelton recently (and gleefully) revealed the reason for that.

Back in April, Adam Levine appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and talked about Blake Shelton’s upcoming wedding to Gwen Stefani, joking that he didn’t “support their marriage” because Stefani was so much cooler than Shelton and that he was going to attend the wedding to object. The country singer made his own appearance on Ellen, five months since he and the pop icon tied the knot and said that those comments were the very reason the Maroon 5 singer didn’t get the invite:

I’m going to say he's in the right on this one. If someone straight up says they’re going to crash your wedding and stand up and object to your union, it’s probably best to make sure they’re not there. Of course, there’s no way the "Beautiful Mistakes" singer would have really gone through with his plan, as Blake Shelton admitted that he and his "rival" really are friends who just like to mess with each other. 

The country star went on to say his big day with Gwen Stefani was really small — less than 30 people were present, including staff working the event — which was probably the real reason Adam Levine and the rest of The Voice family weren’t present (well, except Carson Daly, who officiated the wedding). But that reason is way less fun, and Blake Shelton, who never misses a chance to drag his frenemy, is still giddy about being able to hold that over Levine:

Like the singer’s rivalry with Kelly Clarkson on The Voice, the squabbling between him and Adam Levine is all in good fun — which is probably part of the reason fans like it so much. There’s no real animosity there. But it’s always enjoyable to see what the "Nobody But You" singer is going to come up with. Check out his interview with Ellen DeGeneres below:

Blake Shelton may be the instigator in many of his conflicts with Adam Levine, but the not-facially-tattooed rock star is no angel himself. Levine threw an F-bomb at Shelton this summer when Maroon 5’s tour sold more tickets than the country superstar’s, and in the same interview where he talked about Shelton’s wedding, Levine admitted that he missed working with Shelton on The Voice where they had ample opportunity to spar. 

As for Blake Shelton, he’s still going strong 10 years into the singing competition. The OG coach of the series might be headed for his ninth victory as Season 21 nears the end, as he had more artists remaining than the other coaches going into the Semifinals. Team Blake stands with three singers remaining — including the resilient Wendy Moten — in comparison to Kelly Clarkson and John Legend’s teams, which have two apiece, and Ariana Grande’s one.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s nearly two-decade run on television may coming to an end next year, but host Ellen DeGeneres is not against going back to some old tricks with her world-famous pranks. In the past, the talk show host has enlisted the likes of Justin Bieber, Adele and Britney Spears to confuse unsuspecting people, and now she has done it again with The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. 

The former Suits actress and wife of Prince Harry joined Ellen DeGeneres in Los Angeles for an interview, and they also decided to have a little fun with some vendors nearby. Check out the video below: 

Apparently, Meghan Markle is a huge fan of the pranks that Ellen does and asked the talk show host if she could take part in one. She signed up to then have Ellen in her ear as she approached food vendors about the unique items they were selling and results were absolutely hilarious.

Lately, so much of the press involving the Duchess of Sussex has been involving the royal family or her new children’s book, The Bench. But she absolutely nailed this. I would have been crumbling into laughter, but Meghan Markle did a ton of funny things in a span of eight minutes. She did an in-public squat, ate chips like a chipmunk, pretended to drink her own milk and sang a ridiculous song about being a cat while wearing cat ears. 

They started the prank by having her “assistant” ask them if they can treat her like normal, even though she’s clearly royalty. As she does these ridiculous things in front of them, they are a bit taken aback, but they are actually handling it really well. Perhaps because they were selling these items and it’s Meghan Markle, they just sucked it up and let it happen. 

Ellen DeGeneres definitely knows how to create some hilarious and awkward moments with pranks such as this and it’s great to see Meghan Markle having a blast doing what she says. She fully committed to the bit and that’s when these videos really sing. At the end of the video, Ellen DeGeneres ran in and revealed what was going on and they erupted in to laughter about it. The vendors were then invited on the show as the prank was revealed on TV and to the internet. 

After this performance, we want to see Markle do more comedic work! She may have been best known for an actress for her work on Suits, and have plenty going on in her personal and public life as a mom and wife of Prince Harry, but seeing her deliver some laughs is a joy. 

It goes without saying that Jason Sudeikis is one of the most greatest Saturday Night Live cast members to ever grace the stage at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. So many were saddened when he ultimately departed the series after 10 years as a writer, featured player and main cast member. Since then, he’s gone on to give audiences more humorous performances, with his turn as the titular character on Ted Lasso being his most recent. But this weekend, he returned to SNL roots to make his hosting debut to deliver some quality sketches. And one just happened to be a hilarious twist on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that featured Pete Davidson as Jake Paul. 

Amid the plethora of characters that the actor reprised during his return, Jason Sudeikis introduced audiences to Mellen, a male counterpart to the well-known comedian and daytime talk show host. But this show is a bit different, as it’s geared towards men and fueled by an insane amount of testosterone. So of course, it includes over-the-top antics and “spirited” guests like Jake Paul and Conor McGregor, played by Alex Moffat. Check out the full sketch for yourself down below:

Now, I’m in no way saying that the world actually needs a show like this, yet I’d be incredibly intrigued to see how such a series would actually play out. But the sketch is a funny idea on the part of the SNL writers. Jason Sudeikis perfectly plays the fictional talk show host nailing the “bro-centric” nature of the scenario. And Pete Davidson, who appears only briefly, makes the most of his turn as the polarizing Jake Paul. 

Although the sketch is definitely funny, it’s more than clear that the folks at Saturday Night Live were making a deeper statement with it. The skit plays on the idea of toxic masculinity and how it can manifest itself. So while the antics that occur in the segment play out humorously, there was some thought put into this parody. In addition, this all serves as a stark contrast to the energy that’s present on Ted Lasso, which was probably the intention.

Jason Sudeikis is, of course, not the first actor to take on Ellen DeGeneres on the long-running sketch comedy series. The most famous series star to impersonate the host would have to be Kate McKinnon. The Emmy-winner isn’t currently on the show at the moment due to commitments to other projects, which unfortunately meant she couldn’t pop up in the sketch. Personally, I’d hope that Sudeikis and McKinnon’s fictional hosts get to meet up at some point. 

It was great to see Jason Sudeikis return to his home at 30 Rock and, with any luck, it won’t be the last time audiences see him appear as host. He is pretty busy these days, but he’d likely make the time for his SNL family.

Kim Kardashian is stirring up debate in the Internet ethers once again. But this time, it's not over alien eyebrows, eccentric outfits, or her soon to be ex-husband, Kanye West. The Keeping up with the Kardashians star was speaking candidly with Ellen DeGeneres, and things got a little awkward when she had to correct the talk show host’s assumption about her toddler son's chain supposedly being fake. The social media reactions to the snafu have ranged from questioning to highly amused.

It was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which is in the midst of its final season, that the host brought up a pic of Kim Kardashian's two-year-old son, Psalm, wearing a massive gold chain. True to the format and tone of the show, DeGeneres threw some harmless commentary Kardashian’s way. Not only did DeGeneres repeatedly call the chain “fake” but also mentioned that it “looked like a wrestler’s belt.” Kardashian immediately shut down the insinuations, with a smile, and Twitter is having an absolute field day:

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is perhaps most notorious on her reality show for ugly-crying over losing a $75,000 diamond earring in the ocean. (Not exactly for always running late, as she herself seems to think.) So when Kim Kardashian had to clarify that her son Psalm’s chain was real, like really real, fans hilariously reacted by shading her expensive persona. For the most part, though, the Internet appreciated Kim Kardashian with the quick retort. The reality TV star laughed off Ellen DeGeneres’ assumption that the chain in question was fake but hilariously emphasized, multiple times, that it was most assuredly not. See this Twitter user’s reaction:

On the opposite end of the Internet, certain fans were apparently seeing straight through the fake chain segment. Many actually pointed out that it was clearly a set up punchline because Kim Kardashian's billionaire-status is well known, as is her tendency to buy lavish items for her kids. Others considered it shady on Ellen DeGeneres’ part and wondered why she would even consider it would be fake.

Along with addressing the karat value of her son's chain, Kim Kardashian also addressed her sister Kourtney Kardashian's relationship while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She didn't seem to care as much as the rest of the world that Kourtney and her boyfriend Travis Barker have seemingly been making out on nearly every continent in recent months. In fact, Kim said it was “cute” and that she “loves them” together.

But Kravis (or is it Tratney?) and gold chains notwithstanding, I'm still kind of freaked out by Kim Kardashian’s style choices lately. If she's willing to show up as Batman to the Met Gala, then who's to say what more she's capable of. Maybe Psalm’s chain really is fake after all and the joke is on us...

We've known for a while now that Ellen DeGeneres would be bringing her popular and polarizing talk show to an end with Season 19, with the announcement following a tumultuous stretch for the long-running daytime staple. Next to nothing was announced about the final season after that initial reveal, but now fans can check out a list of A-list celebs who are already confirmed to appear for the first week of episodes, with Jennifer Aniston being in that lineup. And that's not the only big change happening, at least compared to the most recent season.

To kick things off for Season 19, Ellen DeGeneres will be welcoming back Jennifer Aniston, fresh off HBO Max's Emmy-nominated special Friends: The Reunion, with her starring role in Apple TV+'s The Morning Show Season 2 on the way. Making Aniston's appearance all the more special for this final season is the fact that she was the very first guest when The Ellen DeGeneres Show premiered back in 2003, the year Friends' final season debuted. Expect for the conversation to touch upon those David Schwimmer rumors, and maybe even Aniston's doppelgänger.

Obviously Jennifer Aniston can't fill out an entire week's worth of episodes by her lonesome, so it's a good thing Ellen DeGeneres also locked down the ever-popular Kim Kardashian, who has made headlines recently for her indirect and very direct involvement in promoting husband Kanye West's new album Donda.

According to Deadline, that first week of Ellen DeGeneres Show guests will also include fellow talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who has been on summer vacation from his ABC series for a while now; comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish, who shifted genres just a tad with Paul Schrader's The Card Counter; and the band Imagine Dragons, whose fifth studio album The Mercury: Act I will be released on September 3.

Other guests lined up for Ellen DeGeneres' final talk show season include Nine Perfect Strangers star Melissa McCarthy, rapper and entrepreneur Sean "Puffy" Combs, recent Lisey's Story star Julianne Moore, and musician Melissa Ethridge. Those are the only guests that were revealed so far, but you can be sure lots of other big celebs will be announced over time.

Beyond all the big names already announced, The Ellen DeGeneres Show's final season will mark the return of a full in-person studio audience, with all attendees being checked for vaccinations. Prior to now, the show utilized screens as stand-ins for its crowd, and there's no mystery that people were eager to return to the studio for her final year. It's reported that somewhere around 155,000 requests came in from fans requesting to be in those seats for the final season.

Fans can expect to see a lot of looking-back moments during Season 19, as Ellen DeGeneres will follow up on having Jennifer Aniston back by returning for updates on lots of non-celebrity stories that she's covered over the past two decades. I'm sure there will be lots of reminiscing about how many times she's scared all the celebrities, too, so expect a supercut of at least that, if not more.

Ellen DeGeneres and her talk show both faced a variety of accusations and allegations since early 2020, from biased workplace conduct accusations to sexual harassment claims and other troublesome reports. Producers were fired, and the show has gone through more changes behind the scenes to account for the details behind some of those claims. One can only hope this final season plays out without incident.

Ellen DeGeneres is set to kick off her final season in just a few short weeks. While we’ve already gotten a teaser for her final set of episodes, there’s still the ghost of last year’s backlash lingering in the background. An insider recently spoke out what the work has been like since accusations were made against Ellen producers alleging a toxic workplace. In the aftermath, the daytime talk show host ultimately decided to make the upcoming season her final one on the air.

Season 19 will ultimately be The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s final hurrah on daytime television. By the time it wraps, the show will have featured over 4,000 guests and produced over 3,000 hours of television for consumers. Its final season plans are already underway and an insider told Fox News that things have changed on the series, and that “now there’s a structure” to how things are done on the show. The insider also told the news outlet there's a “slightly different environment” from what the show was doing in the past.

Obviously some level of change was needed. Adding structure and creating a different environment are promising concepts, but it remains to be seen how things will look once the grind of producing daily episodes fully starts. Hopefully, whatever the changes are ultimately work together to produce working conditions that make people associated with the show seemingly happier, at least for the last go-around.

Clearly, however, there's only a little while longer for those changes to take effect, as Ellen DeGeneres ultimately decided to quit her series after 19 seasons on the air following a sharp downtick in the ratings. The move will mark the end of her current contract and isn’t wholly surprising as even before any of the behind-the-scenes brouhaha, the comedian had been hinting about quitting the daytime grind. I suppose I always just thought she would push through Season 20 and go out on an anniversary year (for comparison’s sake The Oprah Winfrey Show went out on an anniversary year, her 25th), though Ellen herself has addressed this.

Since news broke during quarantine that top producers may have been contributing to issues on set, those producers exited the series, but it didn’t stop certain allegations from being made, including one that Ellen allegedly didn’t allow eye contact on set. The rumor ran around so much that Ellen DeGeneres ultimately had to address the comment head on, telling her fans and her employees that it is OK to look at her.

The talk show host did what she could when the series returned for Season 18 to get back into a normal routine. She had on guests that were supportive of her and even memorably apologized to her fanbase during her first episode back on the stage post-quarantine. It wasn’t enough. Her numbers sunk and sunk again. At the end of May, DeGeneres ultimately said Season 19 would be the show’s last. She told Today’s Savannah Guthrie that she “really [is] prepared for this and have given it a lot of thought" before explaining this was reportedly the plan she’d had in the cards for herself all along.

Her final run of episodes will start on September 13. There’s already been a trailer for what the studio is calling “The Farewell Season.” In it, the trailer focuses on some of the talk show’s hosts most major moments and guests as well as the giveaways that have made her famous over the years. I’d assume the final season will be trying to hit on certain nostalgic notes for fans as it goes into its final run of episodes. We’ll find out soon enough when Ellen returns for its last set of episodes to ever hit the airwaves.

Ellen DeGeneres has not had the best year of her professional life. After some of her current employees began to voice their issues with her daytime show, the summer of 2020 saw several former employees come forward and detail a number of troubling problems they'd had with some of the top creatives behind the scenes, leading to three of those executives being fired. Along with that, all of the bad press led to a dramatic drop in viewership between Seasons 17 and the current Season 18, and mid-May saw the host announced that she'd retire after next season. Now, former The Rosie O'Donnell Show and The View host Rosie O'Donnell has weighed in on DeGeneres' exit.

Along with also being a stand-up comedian who came to prominence in the late 1980s, Rosie O'Donnell, of course, knows more than a bit about the daytime talk show game. She hosted her own incredibly popular, multi-Emmy award-winning show from 1996-2002, and then became one of the co-hosts of The View during both Seasons 10 and 18. While hosting her own series, O'Donnell quickly became known as "The Queen of Nice" for her easy-going celebrity interviews and light-hearted interactions with her audience, but that changed completely when she stepped into her role on The View.

So, she probably has a unique perspective on everything that's been happening with Ellen DeGeneres, who's been known for her "Be Kind" slogan for many years, and her talk show over the past year or so. With that, while O'Donnell was being interviewed on The Jess Cagle Show, she was asked about having the title of The Queen of Nice and how DeGeneres' similar public persona might have helped lead to her ending the show after all of the controversies. O'Donnell said:

As Rosie O'Donnell noted, it is an incredible oversimplification to say that Ellen DeGeneres being known as the "Be Kind" lady is what led to what's become of her show and its legacy. But, I can see where it probably also didn't help as very negative and shocking allegations against the show, and DeGeneres herself, began to mount.

If she had, let's say, been known for playfully mean-spirited jokes and not made so much of her brand about being good to others, it likely would have been less surprising for fans to find out that DeGeneres, apparently, wasn't paying much attention to how those working behind the scenes of her show were being treated.

As it stands, the realization that there was enough truth to the claims of sexual misconduct, harassment, assault, and a generally toxic workplace which was also prone to racial discrimination and microaggressions, seems to have caused that major decline in viewers that The Ellen Show has seen in Season 18. We can't know whether or not audiences would have reacted differently if the public perception of DeGeneres had been less focused on kindness, but O'Donnell is probably correct that whatever fans think of you, it's tough to be in such a position for so long.

Rosie O'Donnell also seemed to note that, when hosting a series like The Ellen Show, "it's hard to maintain" balance between that public perception and all of who you are as an individual, so it's fitting that the former daytime host just wants DeGeneres to be able to take some time for herself when her run as one of our talk show queens is officially over.

While nothing that happens at this point can fully take away the many successful years that Ellen DeGeneres had with her daytime talk show, the past year of behind-the-scenes allegations, rumors and firings has done a lot to tarnish the legacies of both the series and its host. DeGeneres announced in mid-May that she would be bowing out of the talk show biz after her current contract expires, saying the year-long backlash didn't impact her impending exit. However, several former employees clapped back against that notion and shared some truly blunt opinions about DeGeneres' true motivations.

Ellen DeGeneres is obviously no stranger to facing workplace accusations from both current and former staff members, having denied most of them (including the notion that she doesn't allow others to look her in the eyes). So it was almost expected that her quasi-retirement announcement was met with even more fiery claims from former employees. Here's what one such ex-worker shared with Buzzfeed News:

The employee quoted above seems to follow more of an eye-for-an-eye approach to life, and feels that Ellen DeGeneres' years of allegedly foul attitude and workplace behavior finally came back around to haunt the longtime host. As well, that person clearly doesn't believe that studio execs handled the situation with an eye on truly inspiring changes, alleging that DJ tWitch's promotion and the producer terminations were more about saving face than fixing problems.

Of course, that wasn't the only former employee who took the time to call out Ellen DeGeneres. The host's views and comments on all the claims against her have also rubbed her accusers the wrong way, as she has largely eschewed apologies and has instead called such allegations "ridiculous," while also saying the constant backlash has hurt her feelings. And the ex-staffer below didn't seem to find very much value in DeGeneres' self-centric reactions, claiming the host is bowing out in order to get away from the negativity.

Some believe that if the ongoing backlash had subsided at some point, that Ellen DeGeneres would have likely swept it all under the metaphorical rug and kept on working. In a similar vein, the former employee quoted below isn't alone in thinking the talk show's ratings tumble is a big factor in DeGeneres' decision to walk away.

It's no secret that The Ellen DeGeneres Show's average viewership has been on a more or less consistent downward spiral in the past year, with numbers that pale in comparison to years past. And while the pandemic and other factors definitely play into the lowered ratings, it's hard to deny that the constant negative energy surrounding the talk show factored in as well.

With an endgame plan set for 2022 that will hand the coveted time slot to fellow talk show phenom Kelly Clarkson, The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays in syndication, so check your local listings to see when and where it plays in your area.

Ellen DeGeneres has not been having a great year. After complaints from workers on The Ellen Show, dozens of former employees came forward to talk about what they reported as a toxic workplace, rife with racial discrimination, and various forms of sexual misconduct, along with reports surfacing that DeGeneres herself was far from the queen of nice she'd shown us on TV for so many years. Recently, DeGeneres announced that she would leave her once extremely popular daytime talk show behind after Season 19, and now it looks like she's planning to do whatever she wants to do for that last year as host.

The Ellen Show is still rolling along in Season 18, with one more to go for veteran talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. While she's spoken out a lot about having to fire several of her top executives after those allegations came out last summer, and other behind the scenes issues, it would seem that DeGeneres in now ready to enjoy her freedom from the Emmy-winning daytime hit, as she just offered Insecure star and comedian Yvonne Orji a shot at guest hosting in Season 19.

DeGeneres had Orji on Ellen to promote her new book, and in the interview said:

Wow, right? Ellen DeGeneres got right down to business when speaking with Yvonne Orji, and basically started her interview by co-signing her desire to host a talk show, which Orji said she's wanted to do for a long time because "I want to give away free stuff," among other amazing reasons. DeGeneres also approved Orji's willingness to open up about her career plan, and ended the interview by offering her the chance to try out her dream during Season 19.

It's not every day that talk show hosts, daytime or not, are this free with opportunities to give other hopefuls a leg up by telling them publicly that they can step in to co-host. But, as we know, Ellen DeGeneres really has nothing to lose now. When she announced that she was stepping down after next season, it had been after over a year of bad publicity, controversy, and behind the scenes investigations into those serious allegations.

In addition, even though DeGeneres apologized to employees for everything that had gone on backstage and talked to her fans about it, Season 18 has not gone so well for the star. While pretty much every talk show has faced a downturn in eyeballs with things being done much different during these very challenging times, The Ellen Show has been hemorrhaging viewers since the premiere, which still netted strong enough numbers as people tuned in to see what DeGeneres would say about all of the trouble surrounding her show.

Hopefully, we will get to see Yvonne Orji try out her hosting skills on The Ellen Show next season, and also get to watch as Ellen DeGeneres continues to do whatever she wants with the remainder of her daytime series.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is coming to an end, as the longtime talk show host announced earlier this month that she plans to bring her daytime show to a close in 2022. Of course, since the announcement, many have wondered who NBC might shift into DeGeneres’ timeslot. A few names have been floating around, which has only increased that speculation. But now, NBC has officially found the talk show to replace Ellen, and it’s a familiar face.

Kelly Clarkson is now officially set to take over Ellen DeGeneres’ timeslot when her show ends next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Owned and produced by NBC’s syndication arm, The Kelly Clarkson Show will officially take over the timeslot in the fall of 2022 on NBC-owned stations. The trade adds that while Clarkson’s show is currently carried in 200 stations across the country, the show will be billed as the new daytime headliner in leading timeslots next year.

It was recently reported that Kelly Clarkson was one of the big names in contention for Ellen DeGeneres’ coveted timeslot. What seemed to give her an advantage was the growing popularity of her show, which launched back in 2019. Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish was also reported to be a favorite to lead a new talk show in the slot, though the busy star on daytime TV may have been difficult from a logistical standpoint.

The Kelly Clarkson Show is currently in its second season and was recently renewed for two additional runs, taking it through 2023. Pulling Clarkson into Ellen's slot also come with financial incentive for NBC, as Warner Bros. owned and produced the latter.  Based on comments from NBCUniversal Local president Valari Staab, the network couldn’t be happier with the move for Clarkson’s show:

It's the end of an era, as Ellen DeGeneres has announced that her talk show is coming to an end, a development that comes on the heels of a ratings slump and a workplace controversy. Of course, with the longtime talk show host vacating her spot, it will leave a huge hole in the daytime schedule, so the real question now is, who will replace the talk show once its timeslot becomes available? Well, NBCUniversal reportedly has two lofty ideas floating around.

NBC is reportedly mulling multiple options when it comes to replacing Ellen, which has been making headlines for a while now. According to TMZ, sources say network heads launched The Kelly Clarkson Show as the heir apparent to Ellen DeGeneres’ coveted timeslot. The news outlet also claims NBC heads were aware of the talk show host’s desire to leave the formerly top-rated show, which is apparently why they tapped the beloved Voice coach to headline a talk show back in 2019.

Another name being floated around is comedic actress Tiffany Haddish. Sources claimed NBC is looking at Haddish to headline a new daytime talk show. The move isn’t surprising, given the actress-comedian has actually guest-hosted for Ellen DeGeneres on a number of occasions, during which the host has been absent for varying reasons. Each of her appearances reportedly resulted in a ratings boost for the talk show. All in all, it would appear that network heads have circled the A-list star as one of their top choices.

Tiffany Haddish’s name may be a surprise given NBC’s reported push for Kelly Clarkson's existing show to take Ellen DeGeneres’s spot. But according to NBC sources, The Kelly Clarkson Show has been struggling during the COVID pandemic. The challenge has been producing a daily show with remote guests, which is apparently causing the show’s ratings to drop this season. Its status as an Ellen replacement will depend on how well it does in the ratings over the next few months. Executives are reportedly hoping the sophomore daytime show will experience a surge in popularity once regular production resumes.

If things don’t work out with Kelly Clarkson, Tiffany Haddish would likely be NBC’s top choice. Sources close to Haddish said the comedic actress couldn’t say if she would entertain the idea of a daytime talk show given the day-to-day grind of doing a daily show. Given the number of projects she has lined up, the actress-comedian may not even have the time for a talk show.

Having announced her show’s conclusion in 2022, Ellen DeGeneres and her show have experienced a rough year. Besides allegations of a toxic workplace and Degeneres' own COVID diagnosis, The Ellen DeGeneres Show has experienced a rating slump that continued into 2021. Since announcing her plans to end the show, the host has spoken more on the workplace allegations, claiming the controversy was orchestrated. So DeGeneres’ heir apparent might have an uphill battle to recover the timeslot’s ratings.

Whether it’s Kelly Clarkson or Tiffany Haddish, it will be interesting to see who takes over Ellen DeGeneres’ coveted timeslot once the series ends. It would honestly be nice to see another name in the mix, just to make things interesting, but we'll just have to wait and see between now and The Ellen DeGeneres Show's final sign-off.

Reality singing competitions have come back in fashion in recent years thanks to shows like The Voice and The Masked Singer. There are still unexplored areas within the genre, however, which is good news for Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss. Not long after the talk show host announced that next season will be her last, the resident DJ has already found himself a new television series.

E! Networks announced that The Ellen DeGeneres Show's DJ tWitch will serve as the host for an upcoming music competition series with Clash of the Cover Bands as its current working title. While Boss will guide the competitors along, the new project will also boast celebrity judges including pop singer Meghan Trainor, American Idol alum Adam Lambert, and singer-songwriter Ester Dean. This isn't Trainor and Dean's first time serving as judges, either, as the performers have taken part in Fox's The Four: Battle for Stardom and NBC's Songland, respectively.

With an expected premiere date coming in the latter part of 2021, Clash of the Cover Bands will follow the tried-and-true format of television singing competitions featuring contestants performing cover versions of famous tracks. Of course, as the working title suggests, the cover bands will be battling it out against each other. Each episode will feature two bands from corresponding categories - such as Pop Divas, Boy Bands, Heavy Metal, etc - rocking out across two rounds to determine which act reigns supreme, with the winning band taking home a cash prize and harmonious bragging rights. And presumably the admiration of DJ tWitch.

During the NBC/Universal upfront presentation, judge Meghan Trainor shared with presenter Kevin Hart that the cover bands will have the chance to win $10,000, which is no small pittance. And then as an additional bonus, the pop voted on by the audience.

The connection with The Tonight Show goes even deeper with the upcoming singing competition series. The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon will serve as an executive producer on the series, which will be a joint production between Universal Television Alternative Studio and Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog banner. Electric Hot Dog’s Jim Juvonen will serve as an executive producer along with Fallon.

Clash of the Cover Bands is joining an already crowded field of singing competitions, so it helps to have well-known celebs like tWitch at the forefront. Currently, The Voice, The Masked Singer and American Idol are all barreling towards their season finales. But the E! singing competition seems to be aiming for a specific lane as a show for cover bands, while The Voice and American Idol occupy the traditional unknown-turned-superstar space, and The Masked Singer relies on highlighting celebrity’s talent. So, cover bands actually haven’t been fully explored within the current crop of shows.

Given the bad publicity and rating decline for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it’s nice to know tWitch has already found his next gig without any big obstacles so far. Even though Clash of the Cover Bands will debut before The Ellen Show is actually over, here's hoping it's successful enough to keep him on our televisions after experiencing a difficult television season.

One of the most successful daytime talk show hosts in TV history, Ellen DeGeneres has spent nearly two decades interviewing celebrities, scaring the bejesus out of celebrities, and (of course) dancing with and near celebrities. Things took a downward turn in 2020 thanks to an employee and fan backlash over DeGeneres' alleged workplace behavior, among other troublesome issues, but the show survived that turmoil, even though viewers were sacrificed time and again. Now, DeGeneres has gone public with her finalized decision to end The Ellen DeGeneres Show after 19 years, but she's not blaming the past year of problems for it.

The way Ellen DeGeneres put it, she's been slowly approaching the impending 2022 end date ever since she signed her last contract extension that took things to Season 19. And even though seemingly everyone else involved with the show has tried to convince her otherwise, DeGeneres claims she hasn't wavered, telling THR:

While the timing of Ellen DeGeneres' announcement will likely have some current and former viewers questioning the legitimacy of her motives, it's hard to deny that doing the same job for 19 years straight would be taxing on anyone, regardless of the job. (And especially when one gets COVID in the middle of it all.) Once something gets to the point where it feels purely like work, it's lost its sheen, and moving on might be the best option, even when that job affords one the opportunity to win awards and force celebrities to play messy games.

To that end, DeGeneres said that even though she understands why her producers and her family have lightly attempted to reverse her thought process, she's at a point in her life where she wants to put more focus on the things she truly enjoys, while also seeking out new challenges. In her words:

Ellen DeGeneres is not leaving the entertainment world altogether, of course. As confirmed by Warner Bros. Unscripted TV President Mike Darnell, who was one of the aforementioned talk show producers urging her to keep going for another season, DeGeneres is indeed sticking with Warner Bros. for future ventures, having already worked with them on a slew of unscripted series in recent years, including Ellen's Game of Games for NBC, The Masked Dancer for Fox, Ellen's Next Great Designer for HBO Max, and the upcoming Family Game Fight with Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. So even though she won't be doing the talk show thing anymore after 2022, DeGeneres' impact on TV will likely continue for many years to come.

While there isn't yet a finale date locked down, expect to say farewell to The Ellen DeGeneres Show at some point in 2022, but don't sleep on all the awesomeness hitting the 2021 Summer TV schedule in the meantime.

Ellen DeGeneres once had the most popular syndicated talk show on TV, but that fact has changed a lot since she began her current season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. While one would likely think that starting a talk show back up last fall would have been difficult for everyone (and it basically was), Ellen's problems have remained. And, DeGeneres' daytime show is still quietly bleeding viewers following last year's major backlash.

After years of rumors about Ellen DeGeneres maybe not being the queen of nice she appears to be while on camera, she and everyone at Ellen faced a major reckoning last summer. Not only did some stars speak out about how they were treated while appearing on the show, but, even worse, several former employees brought up allegations of a toxic workplace behind the scenes. While Ellen debuted on September 21 to numbers which were already down 38% from her premiere in 2019, the show is still losing viewers at a steady clip. Showbiz411 reports that Ellen is stuck at fewer than 1 million viewers, with an average of 900,000 for the first two weeks of April.

There are several problems here for those at Ellen. For starters, May sweeps are upon us, and Season 18 would have a better shot at helping the show last beyond Season 19 (DeGeneres is contracted for one more season right now) if it could wrap up with a way more solid viewership finish than 900,000 eyeballs. In addition, seeing as how DeGeneres herself has been openly mulling over whether to re-up her contract and stay for Season 20 and past that, the show is really not on very solid footing. And, we can't look past the seriousness of the allegations from former employees last year.

Even though Ellen DeGeneres took responsibility for what went on backstage at her namesake daytime talker, and spoke at length about the allegations and her commitment to making sure the work environment was better moving forward when the show returned in the fall, it may have been too hard for some of her fans to move past what they heard from former employees.

These claims included everything from people supposedly being fired for taking bereavement and medical leave, to racial discrimination and reports of sexual misconduct, harassment, and assault from some of the show's top executives, with many stating they didn't come forward sooner because of a fear of retaliation. After several investigations, three of Ellen's executives, executive producers Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman, were fired. But, the controversy may have been too much for Ellen's fans to stomach.

Many of the syndicated daytime talk shows are having a rough go of it right now. Even front-runners like Dr. Phil and Live! with Kelly and Ryan are down by two or three hundred thousand viewers during the same time period as Ellen, with only Tamron Hall managing an uptick of 14%. With Season 18 almost over, it will only be a matter of time before we know whether or not Ellen DeGeneres and her team can pull off a viewership win by season's end.

The love between Steve Harvey and Michael B. Jordan seems to be just as strong as that between the Sexiest Man Alive and his girlfriend Lori Harvey. Since the couple went Instagram official in January, people won’t stop asking Harvey about the duo, and the Family Feud host is never afraid to oblige. It seems the host is still hilariously trying to dislike Jordan, but according to what he told Ellen DeGeneres, his approach isn’t taking.

Steve Harvey continued his lovefest for Michael B. Jordan on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where the host told Harvey she knew about the couple’s relationship even before the public did. She revealed that Jordan had asked her and her wife Portia de Rossi about getting horses for a romantic date for Lori Harvey's birthday. Sounds like an awesome dude, right? Here's Steve Harvey's take on trying to find a flaw with the Black Panther star:

After complimenting Michael B. Jordan, Steve Harvey then gushed about spending personal time with the Hollywood star. He revealed that the awesomeness didn't skip a generation either, bringing up meeting Jordan’s father for the first time.

Steve Harvey mentioned not being able to take Michael B. Jordan in a fight compared to his stepdaughter’s other exes, but we'll assume that's not the only reason why he's so nice to the younger actor. Ellen DeGeneres also felt that Jordan was more serious about his relationship with Lori Harvey, at least compared to his past girlfriends. She reassured Harvey that Jordan and his stepdaughter might be in it for the long haul, to which Harvey whispered, “Oh, god, I hope so.”

Steve Harvey’s expression told the story of a father who’s watched his little girl go from one not-so-amazing relationship to the next. Considering Lori Harvey’s high-profile relationships in years prior, the older Harvey had every right to wary of someone like Jordan. But given his words about Jordan, the Family Feud host appears to have taken a major liking to the Hollywood star.

Ellen DeGeneres was the latest stop on Steve Harvey’s Michael B. Jordan & Lori Harvey Love Tour (not a real title). He recently joked about Jordan’s Sexiest Man Alive title on Jimmy Kimmel Live! while calling him “a nice guy.” He even talked about the Hollywood couple on his talk show, where he first mentioned liking the actor. I see a pattern forming here. Much like Harvey, fans of the couple are hoping this relationship is here to stay, for a while at least.

Ellen DeGeneres has a ratings problem. In less than a year, she has reportedly lost more than forty percent of her audience, and with only one more season left on her contract, the future of The Ellen DeGeneres Show feels very uncertain. It’s an unfamiliar position for the longtime talk show host, and it’s one that seems to have a cause and effect relationship with all of the behind the scenes problems on the set of her show.

After years of muted whispers about there maybe being some issues behind the scenes on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the problems exploded to the forefront last summer. Allegations of bullying, sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct went public, leading to multiple employees in positions of power getting fired. DeGeneres herself apologized to the staff and when the show returned, she talked about what happened behind the scenes and took responsibility. According to The New York Times, viewers showed up in big numbers to watch her address what happened, leading to the biggest premiere in four years, but in the time since, the show has reportedly bled off more than forty percent of its viewers.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show, once the most popular syndicated talk show on television, recently found itself in a four way tie for third place, doing a little more than half the audience of clear frontrunners Dr. Phil and Live With Kelly and Ryan. It wasn’t some outlier in performance either. These are basically what the picture looks like, and the decline in performance presents a potential problem for a show that reportedly pays its title star quite well and allegedly cut salaries last year.

As much as anything else, television is about momentum. Positive buzz helps drive tune-in as viewers want to be a part of the conversation. That can work well when a show is hot but it can also go the other way when people start turning on it. Ellen DeGeneres knows that as well as anyone given her long and successful career in Hollywood. She’ll be back to host the show next season in the final year of her contract, but unless this ratings slide improves, everyone involved is going to need to have some hard conversations about whether to continue, which has been a point of conversation before.

Fortunately for Ellen DeGeneres herself, she has a lot of options. She currently has overall deals with HBO Max and Discovery to produce content, and while her show doesn’t touch the audience it once did, it’s still quite popular compared to a majority of things on television. She will definitely have the pull to launch whatever she wants next, and while the public has definitely pushed back after all of her behind the scenes issues, many have stuck with her and it’s reasonable to think some former viewers may return for the right project and at least give it a chance.

2020 was a tough year for everyone, as being in quarantine and isolation has been a bummer for most people. For those dealing with addiction during COVID times, the pandemic is not merely a disruption to everyday life, but a huge threat to their recovery. Big Hollywood names were not immune to this danger, with The Ranch actor and podcast superstar Dax Shepard speaking out last year about relapsing after 16 years of sobriety. Even though Shepard has a strong support system and is used to being outspoken about his life, going public with his relapse news proved to be especially difficult after he'd been clean for so long.

Dax Shepard first opened up about his relapse and struggles with opioids on an episode of Armchair Expert, a weekly podcast he co-hosts. More recently, the actor appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show for the host's birthday and he reflected on his difficulties with sharing news of his recent relapse, saying that since he speaks about recovery so often, he was concerned it would have a negative impact on the podcast, while also negatively affecting listeners who are in recovery. In Shepard’s own words:

Although he is far from the only celebrity to struggle with addiction and fall off the wagon, Dax Shepard has spent a lot of time and resources helping others who share his struggles. He uses his Armchair Expert platform in particular to help inform and support those who struggle with addiction and are attempting to get clean.

Dax Shepard likely had valid concerns that his relapse after being clean for 16 years would have an effect on the recovery processes of his most loyal fans and listeners, but there may be a bright alternative view. In the same appearance on Ellen, Shepard explains that a friend gave him a different way of thinking about how others view his relapse, saying that it may help to humanize the star. This is how he put it:

Being married to Kristen Bell and basically being the cutest couple ever does put Dax Shepard on a bit of a pedestal. It’s important to remember, though, stars have their dark periods just like everyone else, and their lives are not always as sunny as they appears on the TV cameras. So when Shepard and other stars put those darker days in view for all to see, it helps bridge that human gap between everyday people and the celebrities.
