Kelly Clarkson joked that some of the HR rules were “dumb,” like not being able to comment when someone lost weight. The singer herself dropped some pounds after she moved to New York, and she argued that being acknowledged made people feel good.

In actuality, the “Since U Been Gone” singer admitted she’s not really the rule-breaker she made herself out to be, telling the crowd that the opposite was closer to the truth:

She joked that the people running the HR meetings would sweat if she were in their class because she was a “curious cat” and would ask lots of questions. She said really getting into it was necessary to protect everyone.

Kelly Clarkson has a tendency to speak freely in front of her residency crowds, and she didn’t seem too concerned about any blowback from NBC about her HR comments, saying:

The Kelly Clarkson Show’s days are numbered, but the artist may want to keep in mind that she still draws an NBC paycheck by being a coach on The Voice. Not that she likely has anything to worry about — even when reports came out about The Kelly Clarkson Show being a “traumatizing” work environment in 2023, accusers alleged Clarkson was neither a part of nor aware of the problems.

The host even reportedly required her senior staff (including herself) to undergo training, probably not unlike what she’s joking about now.

Among the nominations are Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host, two categories that The Kelly Clarkson Show and Clarkson herself have won in the past.

While The Kelly Clarkson Show’s final episodes won’t air until the fall, the talk show has already wrapped filming. Episodes are recorded months in advance, as opposed to most talk shows, where episodes are either recorded the day/week of, or live. The final day of production was apparently on June 11, but it’s clear that the emotions are still pouring.

The daytime talk show landscape will look a bit different next year, and not just because Kelly Clarkson is signing off. Sherri Shepherd’s own talk show, Sherri, wrapped in May following a cancellation, but she is not going down without a fight. She’s expressed interest in continuing the show in some other way, possibly a podcast, but she has a lot of other projects on her plate, so that might not be happening any time soon. Meanwhile, The Jennifer Hudson Show is staying strong and will be back with no end in sight, at least not right now.

It’s easy to see why he wouldn’t want to leave a boss like that, but Kelly Clarkson’s first responsibility is to her children. In the upcoming season, she’ll face off against OG coach Adam Levine in what will be his 19th competition, and Queen Latifah is joining The Voice with fellow first-timer Riley Green.

Last season we saw John Legend bring a couple of his kids to The Voice set, and I think it would be so cool to see River and Remy join Kelly Clarkson at work for some bonus time with mom. They’ve taken the stage during her Las Vegas residency, so who knows what could happen? The only problem is if her kids do come around, Clarkson might want to watch how much she trash-talks rookie Riley Green.

Unfortunately, that’s not the only big talk show cancellation hitting the 2026 TV calendar, and while we’ve been paying so much attention to Stephen Colbert and the CBS of it all, The Kelly Clarkson Show has seemingly already taped its final episode.

Unlike The Late Show, which aired the same day it taped, The Kelly Clarkson Show records its episodes months in advance, so we’ve still got a while before we actually get to see the final episode on TV. Still, June 11 was reportedly the final day of physical production, as revealed by producer Bryce Mcleay, who posted a lengthy and emotional message on Instagram to commemorate the end, writing in part:

There was some confusion about when the final tape day was, as fans tried to get tickets to be in one of Kelly Clarkson’s final studio audiences. According to a discussion on Reddit, it appears the final episode with its host was taped on June 5, and guest hosts continued to film The Kelly Clarkson Show’s final episodes until June 11 (I'm assuming those guest-led episodes will still air before Clarkson's finale, despite being taped later).

According to fans and the ticket site 1iota, Joel McHale was scheduled for an interview on the morning of June 11, with Mario and Courtney Lopez serving as guest hosts for a taping that afternoon.

Other social media posts seemed to confirm that production on the popular daytime talk show ceased over a week ago, as stage manager Brendan Higgins reflected on how “badass” it’s been to be a part of The Kelly Clarkson Show. It's no surprise, then, that NBC is eyeing two of its stars to serve as the next big hosts of daytime television, and I think ice skating fans will be thrilled to see Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski back together again.

Radar Online reports that talks are happening to get Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski together to host a daytime talk show meant to replace The Kelly Clarkson Show. The gist from insiders is that Weir and Lipinski are a proven duo who understand what makes good television, and they're good at what they do. In addition to their recent appearance on The Traitors, they've been commentators for ice skating during the Winter Olympics for over a decade.

And while Johnny Weir said celebrities may not be their target demographic after no one clocked their friendship on The Traitors, both he and Tara Lipinski are reportedly well-liked amongst the demo that follows daytime television. No solid deal is in place, but given the praise, don't be surprised if we get a new show announced with this duo soon.

Another Famous Name Is Allegedly Being Considered As Well

Nothing is for sure when it comes to who is replacing Kelly Clarkson just yet, and other names beyond Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski are being considered as well. Pink was recently reported as another name in the mix, and she's filling in for the singer currently.

It's hard to say with certainty which way NBC's executives are leaning, because those are two entirely different picks for the job. If I had to speculate, Pink would land the role if the intention is to continue a format similar to The Kelly Clarkson Show, and based on her guest-hosting stents so far, she seems to do well enough in the role.

Bringing in Weir and Lipinski feels like it would be a new show entirely, perhaps something closer to Live with Kelly and Mark. Who knows, there may even be another show and celebrity in the mix being considered as well. Honestly, I'm not sure who would be a better option given the rumored options so far, so I don't envy the people who ultimately have to make that decision!

Not having to worry about finances takes away a good bit of the pressure that makes job loss so stressful to people, but she also pointed out that she had to consider what her decision meant for her talk show’s crew, who — let’s not forget — relocated from Los Angeles to New York less than three years ago.

It just all comes back to doing what’s best for her kids, and you’ve got to respect Kelly Clarkson putting motherhood above all of her other jobs and making sure she’s more present with them during this terrible time. She’s spoken a bit about how River and Remy are doing since Brandon Blackstock died in August after a long, private battle with cancer. Apparently, they’ve been getting lots of snuggle time in, as Clarkson has been letting them sleep in her bed.

As for what will happen to The Kelly Clarkson Show’s coveted timeslot, no official decision has yet been made. As rumors spread last year that Kelly Clarkson wanted to leave TV, Hoda Kotb’s name was said to be on a list of possible replacements, as she’d exited The Today Show months earlier. However, Kotb personally denied the reports, and that was long before she returned to NBC to fill in for Savannah Guthrie as she continues to deal with the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother.

The latest speculation is that P!nk may be tapped to fill Kelly Clarkson’s spot, as the “So What” singer will serve as a guest host on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week. It’s certainly possible that this is an audition of sorts to see if P!nk is a good fit to take over full time.

During the sweet moment, Pink commented that hosting the talk show is “way outside [her] wheelhouse” before Clarkson suggested the gig is “way outside” hers as well. While Katy Perry has since exited Idol, she had a number of notable moments on the show that are still hard to forget. One of them occurred during Season 20, when Perry broke out into an impromptu performance of her hit song “Teenage Dream.” While bending down, she split the back of her red, leather pants. Kelly Clarkson seems just as excited as the rest of us that actress Hailee Steinfeld is engaged to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Fans have been swooning over the couple since the Bumblebee star guessed the snap count on Allen’s proposal, but Clarkson may have slightly different motivations behind her love for the QB. The talk show host sent him a strongly worded message through his fiancée, and I relate to this so much.

Hailee Steinfeld was a guest on a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote her movie Sinners, which hits the 2025 movie calendar on April 18. The American Idol champion congratulated Steinfeld on her recent engagement and then revealed why she has such strong feelings about Josh Allen. Clarkson said:

The singer/daytime host is interested in stepping down from The Kelly Clarkson Show once her contract expires next year, according to unnamed sources cited by Page Six. The reason given is that she would like spend more time with her 10-year-old daughter River Rose and 8-year-old son Remy. An industry insider claimed that Clarkson's "number one priority is her children, and they always will be," as well as that Clarkson would "like to spend more time down South" after the "grueling" work of the show, which has been airing for the past six years.

The news comes in the wake of Kelly Clarkson missing multiple episodes due to an undisclosed personal matter, with guest hosts such as Andy Cohen and Simu Liu taking over for her, but she was back to celebrate the 1,000th episode in March.

NBC is said to want to keep Clarkson on board the network. Despite this, the Page Six report alleges that "profit margins are low" due to the fact that The Kelly Clarkson Show is pricy to produce. While it seems that the future is uncertain for Clarkson staying in New York to host her series, NBC is said to want to at least keep her attached to the network to host holiday specials. Christmas in Rockefeller Center given as an example, as she hosted the event for the network two years in a row.

She has certainly been active on NBC in addition to her talk show, including nine seasons as a coach on The Voice (with four winning contestants to her name), the short-lived but ambitious American Song Contest that she co-hosted with Snoop Dogg, and the Kelly Clarkson Presents: When Christmas Comes Around holiday special.

At the time of writing, Kelly Clarkson has not publicly commented on the future of her show in light of the latest reports of her interest in moving away from it (and New York City). The singer/host went through a lot in her personal life over the six years of the show so far, including a very public divorce. Just over a year ago, she was reportedly happy to have left Los Angeles for New York with primary custody of her two kids.

So, imagine how silly she must have felt dropping the ball while trying to identify the song she sings in the movie.

This year Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous celebrates 25 years since its release. In a notable scene from the 1970s coming-of-age film, Hudson sang Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer,” convincing a whole tour bus of rock stars to join in. Nowadays, she might not be able to join in herself. Well, that’s unfortunate, but it was 25 years ago, so I’ll cut her some slack. As the American Idol winner says, sometimes she doesn’t even recognize her own songs.

Not all was lost though. The Running Point actress was easily able to identify Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” which she iconically sings in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. That movie is a bit more recent than Almost Famous, but not recent enough to be passed over for potential a sequel reboot. McConaughey and Hudson are definitely one of the epic rom-com duos I can’t get enough of, so I fully support this.

Though perhaps the Something Borrowed actress is taking some time to focus on her music. Her musical moments in movies don’t always do her justice. She’s got quite the voice, something people tend to forget. Not me though. Her stint on Glee as Rachel’s sexy, intimidating NYADA dance professor was iconic, and boy did she showcase her vocal range.

She even put out her first studio album Glorious last year. The Deepwater Horizon star performed a single dedicated to her mother, Overboard actress Goldie Hawn, during The Voice finale. During Hudson’s recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Voice coach talked to her guest all about her songwriting process, saying she loved the track “Not Easy To Know.” Listen, Kate Hudson’s got a set of pipes on her. But as with any artist, I hope for her sake the “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer never covers it in Kellyoke. She’s just too good.

I personally think the Mother’s Day actress deserves a second go at “Throw Me A Line,” so I hope to see her back on The Kelly Clarkson Show real soon. And now that it’s on my mind, I would love to see the two female singers do some Kellyoke together. Maybe a mash-up of “You’re So Vain” and “Mr. Know It All”? Or a new rendition of "Tiny Dancer"? I’ll leave it to the professionals to figure that out.

It hasn’t been all Kellyoke and Emmy trophies, though. The show saw Kelly Clarkson through her years-long divorce from Brandon Blackstock, and she’s talked about everything from how her mom reacted to news of the breakup to learning to “un-love” your ex.

And while the host herself was not implicated, several former employees spoke out in 2023 about The Kelly Clarkson Show being a “traumatizing” work environment due to the actions of some producers. Kelly Clarkson responded, saying the alleged behavior was “unacceptable,” and she vowed that everyone on her senior staff, including herself, would undergo leadership training.

One thousand episodes is quite an achievement, and I can totally understand after going through so much why Kelly Clarkson was getting cheeky with her audience for the big day. While she’s expected to return for tapings on March 13, it’s been said that Clarkson has been MIA because of a personal matter (via Deadline), though no official statement on her absences has been given. Hopefully, everything is or will soon be OK because we all need our Kelly Clarkson fix and it would be a shame for her to miss her 1,000th show!

That's definitely a little awkward, but there doesn't seem to be any real harm done. After all, everyone makes a mistake, and it has been some time since that second season of American Idol aired. Aside from that, the former politician confirmed to Clarkson that he and Studdard still regularly participate in projects together, with one being their recent stint on The Masked Singer (during which they cleared the air about past feuding rumors).

Kelly Clarkson still tops the rest–winners or not–as one of the most successful American Idol alums to date. Her "Kellyoke" segment has become a fan favorite on her show and continues to prove why she won Idol all those years ago. The host’s range knows no bounds, and she continues to deliver top-tier covers.

Before landing her talk show gig, she was a regular coach on NBC's The Voice.
