The Price is Right is one of the longest-running game shows, and arguably one of the best game shows of all time. So, obviously, people have strong takes about which game within the show is the best. While there are lots of ways contestants can take home money, there is an "easy" pick for this title. However, I love that the show's boss didn't go for it when revealing his favorite game.

The Price is Right has had some crazy game show moments, and it's always fun seeing how games turn out and what contestants win or don't win. While viewers probably have their own favorite game on the show, showrunner John Quinn told TV Insider his pick, and it’s not the most obvious choice:

Considering Plinko has been played on The Price is Right for years and is probably one of the most well-known games, it’s surprising but refreshing that Quinn didn’t say it. Rat Race, meanwhile, was introduced in 2010, and while it’s technically not new, I love that he went with a newer game. Plus, I adore that he gave a shoutout to a game that was created by host Drew Carey. I also appreciate that it sounds like it’s an entertaining event for everyone, not just the contestants.

Meanwhile, there have been a lot of games that have come and gone on The Price is Right throughout the show’s decades-long run. A handful of them have been retired, but quite a lot are still active as new games are created. On that note, Quinn revealed the game he wants to retire, more so because he’s still unsure how it works:

Quinn only started his stint as showrunner last year, but it seems like he’s been making his rounds in terms of testing the games. The Price is Right can be confusing at times, and it's funny that he’s confused by Check Game, which has been around since 1981. Of course, not every game is going to be easy to learn, but when it comes to The Price is Right, you kind of have to learn on the fly. It’s likely Quinn isn’t the only one confused by it, but luckily, that confusion looks to be ending soon, with it getting a bit of a touch-up.

At the very least, Quinn doesn’t have to play to win money, but that doesn’t mean he still can’t have fun while working on the games. It’s always entertaining to see what kind of games are played in each episode of The Price is Right because there are so many to choose from. For Quinn, like viewers and the contestants, he has his favorites and least favorites, and now I wish I had the chance to try my hand at them. If anything, fans can play along with The Price is Right, as it airs weekdays on CBS at 11 a.m. ET and streams the next day for those with a Paramount+ subscription.

Price Is Right Shared Statement And Return Invite

Less than a week after Kathy's mysterious exit, a Price Is Right representative shared a statement with TV Insider that addressed the incident. While no specific cause or explanation was given for the prior appearance, it does appear that she's in good health and good spirits.

However, after 14 years of the same sort of slip-ups, it’s no surprise that The Price Is Right has found a way to help out the announcer. On the surface, this method is relatively simple, but it also seems to be effective. Gray continued:

It’s actually not hard to see how this could be a constant problem for him, though. Unlike other game shows like Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy!, you’re not just dealing with three pre-determined contestants. George Gray has a whole audience full of potential Pinko players. As he pointed out above, there are also so many ways to say seemingly simple names. Gray compared it to other differently pronounced words, saying:

The good thing for George Gray is that the home audience at least never knows about these faux pas. It’s certainly not as obvious as when a contestant called Drew Carey the wrong name or when one woman couldn’t figure out how to leave the stage. I appreciate the announcer's willingness to be so candid about his flubs, and I'll surely be thinking about them whenever I watch the show moving forward.

I'd love to say this encouraged me to challenge the theory, and I binged old episodes with my Paramount+ subscription to see if it held water, but truthfully, this is just a handy strategy for an already easy game. Out of all the games one can play on The Price Is Right, I would say Plinko is one of the easiest to win a good deal of money on, provided you can get enough chips to maximize your cash.

Now, if this guy could get to work on how to beat "That's Too Much" I would be thrilled! I don't think there's any denying The Price Is Right is one of the best game shows of all time, but there is a wild difficulty spike on a contestant's experience depending on the game they have to play depending on the showcase. It's not exactly fair all the time, but then again, the game show never claimed to be.

Which is why I think it's entirely fair for fans to use any advantage they can get, including this Plinko strategy, to get an edge on the game show before they even get to step on stage. Not that I think Drew Carey is out to screw everyone out of money, and I've suspected he's often tried to help people win more often than not.

After all, The Price Is Right is at its best when people are winning, in my opinion. Sure, seeing someone fail tremendously at getting a correct answer will create a viral moment, but I ultimately live for seeing people get some extra money and occasionally a new car! That said, I've heard that most people end up not getting the car due to the rules requiring a tax to be paid before acquisition, so it does bum me out sometimes how excited people are when they win one.

With 2024 winding down, I find myself waiting on the 2025 TV schedule and watching The Price Is Right 24/7 on Pluto TV a lot more. While I don't think it has made me any better at guessing the prices of various household items and new cars, I tend to notice some patterns from marathoning the daytime game show for long stretches. Specifically, I noticed something hilarious that Drew Carey does, and I have to call it out.

In addition to sharing a few strategies people should use if they go on The Price Is Right, I noticed a thing the host does that initially seemed pretty cruel. Now that I've seen it happen multiple times, however, I think I understand why it happens, and it makes me laugh several times an episode.

Drew Carey Does Something Hilarious When Contestants Lose On The Price Is Right

Drew Carey doesn't plan on retiring from The Price Is Right and wants to keep the hosting gig until he dies. It's a good thing, then, that he's so great in the role and people show up with shirts honoring him and his home state of Ohio in an attempt to get selected to play. Carey often notices this and will call attention to it, and generally you'll see him be very friendly to the contestants up until one certain point.

I can't help but notice that the minute a contestant loses on The Price Is Right, he completely ices them out and pretends as though they don't exist. Legitimately, he'll tell them something like "tough luck" and then step away from them with his back turned and just proceed to act as though they were never there. This often leaves the contestant staring and unsure of what to do until they're eventually left to find their way offstage. This happens several times in an episode and it only gets funnier to me every time.

Why Does Drew Carey Ignore Contestants After They Lose?

How could a man who fed his staff through the writers' strike come off so heartless on television? It's odd, especially when the previous host, Bob Barker, usually offered condolences to contestants upon losing. I can only speculate, but I think I know the reason, and it comes down more to logistics than anything.

The Price Is Right is a fast-moving show that has to have enough contestants to spin the wheel so they can compete in the final showcase. When someone loses, Drew Carey has to act fast and find the next person he can to spin the wheel for that Final Showcase. As fast as the show moves, there's not enough time to slow it all down to make someone feel better about losing. Carey's job is to keep the good vibes rolling, and he certainly thrives at that, which I appreciate. It doesn't make it any less hilarious when it happens, and I'll continue to chuckle while watching Pluto TV or newer episodes with my Paramount+ subscription.

Just because Pat Sajak bid farewell to fans of Wheel of Fortune in early June, that doesn’t mean all the other game shows out there are slowing down at all. To the contrary, The Price Is Right is wowing audiences left and right, as the producers seem to have tapped into the upper echelon of contestant casting, as less than a week after the long-running hit’s epic showcase showdown highlight, host Drew Carey was stunned anew by a contestant totally dominating the Dice Game.

As one of the best game shows of all time, The Price Is Right has undeniably dished out a ton of wow-worthy highlights, from that accidental car giveaway to the touching Bob Barker tribute and beyond. But rarely have two all-timer appearances happened in such short order, as Carey can certainly attest. Check out the wowzers Dice Game win shown in the clip below.

Would anyone out there be surprised if the first thing Devon did with his new car was drive to the nearest casino to test whether his dice skills worked on a normal-sized die, or if it was limited to just oversized versions? Presumably while booking a hotel in Las Vegas on his phone.

For those who couldn't watch, or are unaware of how the contest is played, Dice Game tasks players with rolling to try and match the numbers in the price of a new car, which doesn't feature any zeroes or numbers higher than 6. For non-matching rolls that come up as 2-5, the contestant must guess whether or not the price digit is higher or lower than the one on the die. Thus, rolling a 1 or a 6 means the number in the price is revealed automatically.

So the only way to truly sweep this game is to systematically roll only 1s and 6s. And it looks like Devon was born with magic hands, because that's exactly what he did, pulling out two 6 rolls, a 1, and then another 6. And it's not like he was trying to game the system either, as he rolled with gusto and clearly did not expect to hit an ideal roll each and every time.

Perhaps the best case scenario for any instance when three 6s are involved, amirite?

The Price Is Right's Most Epic Showcase Showdown

Making the Dice Game sweep all the more impressive in retrospect is that it went down less than a week after what was arguably The Price Is Right's most jaw-dropping Showcase Showdown in his 52-season history. If this were me, I would probably still be screaming and hollering in celebration about it, months after the taping. Check out the nutso moment below!

Being just a dollar a Showcase Showdown price is unbelievable, especially for a show that turned "Price Is Right rules" into shorthand for guesses not counting if they're higher than the correct answer.

It's wild, and more than a little depressing, that both of these all-time great appearances went down less than a year after legendary former host Bob Barker passed away at the age of 99. He probably would have gotten a big kick out of both of those as well, maybe using his microphone as a baseball bat swinging at a home run.

For much of television’s history, game shows have been an ever-evolving part of the daily viewing cycle, right up through the streaming era. From trivia competitions to guessing games to skill battles and beyond, they’re among TV’s most delectable comfort foods, and many familiar favorites having their recipes rebooted time and again. Audiences love watching both big winners and big losers, we love playing along, and who doesn’t love a great host? (Read our list of the best hosts.) To celebrate this prize-heavy genre, we’ve ranked the 30 best game shows of all-time, with certain caveats.

The round-up below is almost entirely focused on traditional 30-minute game show formats here in the U.S., largely of the syndicated variety, and without series that are geared around competitions, elimination-driven seasons, giant stunts, or anything that also slots into “reality” or “children’s TV.” We’re talking games here that feasibly anyone can play. So everyone grab your buzzers, and don’t let the clock hit zero before you reach the end.

30. Chain Reaction

Hosts:: Bill Cullen, Blake Emmons, Geoff Edwards, Dylan Lane, Mike Catherwood

Many all-ages activity books worth their salt will feature chain reaction puzzles, in which the challenge is parsing through clues to get from one word to another completely unrelated word. That concept has been brought to life quite a few times over the years, with five different iterations of Chain Reaction airing across NBC (1980), USA (1986-1991), and Game Show Network (2006-07, 2015-16, 2021-22) for a total of 12 seasons and around 1,400 episodes combined.

• Standout Element: Every version of Chain Reaction is an equally fun option for an entire family or group of friends to yell answers at.

29. The Newlywed Game

Hosts: Bob Eubanks, Jim Lange, Paul Rodriguez, Gary Kroeger, Carnie Wilson, Sherri Shepherd

The show that ushered the phrase “making whoopee” into the TV lexicon, The Newlywed Game was co-created by Howdy Doody creator E. Roger Muir, with the legendary Chuck Barris as producer, back in 1966. It’s a more enjoyable romance-driven series than The Dating Game, which debuted the previous year, with a lot of the fun coming from watching couples who so very clearly are not meant to be together. Such marital chaos is so interesting to TV viewers that there have been six different versions of The Newlywed Game, from ABC’s runs (1966-74, 1984) to the syndicated versions (1977-80, 1985-89, 1996-99) to GSN’s sole revival (2009-2013), at least so far.

• Standout Element: The couples are usually a joy to watch, but recurring host Bob Eubanks had the magnetism to keep audiences tuned in, to the point where he held hosting duties across five different versions of the show.

28. Win, Lose Or Draw

Hosts: Vicki Lawrence, Bert Convy, Robb Weller, Marc Price, Justin Willman

Essentially the TV version of the home game Pictionary — and existing long before that game’s 2022 series — Win, Lose or Draw is one of few shows where contestants’ artistic abilities are most important, although only as important as well others can guess. Several versions of the series existed in a short window, with NBC’s daytime take (1987-89) airing at the same time as the syndicated version (1987-90), which predated Disney Channel’s Teen Win, Lose or Draw (1989-92) and another youth-oriented version (2014) that dropped the “Teen” from the title. Did I mention Win, Lose or Draw was co-created by Burt Reynolds?

• Standout Element: The best artists = the worst artists, in my book, and I also always loved when there was still enough time at the end of an episode for someone in the audience to try their own hand at earning extra money.

27. @midnight

One of two Comedy Central game shows to last beyond two seasons, the joke-laden @midnight debuted in 2013 laser-focus on Internet culture, from dank memes to Yahoo Answers to The Iron Sheik’s tweets. Like Whose Line Is It Anyway?, the actual competition quickly becomes irrelevant, and the point was for each episodes’ three comedian contestants to make the host and audience laugh as much as possible with a barrage of ridiculous headlines, hashtags and more. With over 600 episodes produced, and CBS’ revamped After Midnight keeping things alive, it’s a smorgasbord of comedy greats.

• Standout Element: Episodes with cast and crew from the same TV show competing against each other, from Archer to The Walking Dead to Rick and Morty.

26. Hollywood Squares

Hosts: Peter Marshall, Jon Bauman, John Davidson, Tom Bergeron

In case anyone had any reservations about whether Hollywood Squares slots more as a heady quiz show or a comedic game show, one only needs to know two things: it employs true/false questions, and Paul Lynde was a big part of it for a while. The tic-tac-toe series has seen various incarnations throughout the years, starting with its NBC run (1966-80) and into its various syndicated spans (1971-81, 1986-89, 1998-2004), as well as a few spinoffs such as Hip Hop Squares and Nashville Squares. The show’s biggest strength is indeed the lineup of nutty comedians and celebs brought in across the 5,000+ episodes, from “Weird” Al Yankovic to Vincent Price to Joan Rivers to Whoopi Goldberg to Martin Mull and many more.

• Standout Element: Arguably the most exciting Bonus Round of any version of Hollywood Squares is when the contestant chooses a car key to use on one of the on-stage vehicles, with the hopes that the key turns the vehicle on. There’s nothing like the moment when it’s successful.

25. Idiotest

Host: Ben Glieb

As much as I’d already love a reboot, Idiotest only boasts the lone four-season stretch on Game Show Network (2014-2017) with comedian Ben Gleib as its splendidly smarmy host. Rather than focusing on either general knowledge or esoteric trivia, Idiotest instead has its contestants utilizing (or not) their critical thinking skills for all manner of brain teasers and word puzzles. It’s a show where, as the name implies, people can often walk away feeling pretty dumb, and Gleib is excellent at poking plenty of good-natured fun without going too far.

• Standout Element: The puzzles are so well-crafted from season to season, with the writers putting a lot of effort into keeping things fresh, so that every single episode is automatically worth watching.

24. Remote Control

Hosts: Ken Ober, Colin Quinn

MTV’s first piece of original programming that wasn’t musically focused, Remote Control remains a singular snapshot of the era in which it aired (1987-1990), with the majority of its focus hooked to popular music videos and artists at the time, as well as other slices of pop culture. The crown jewel of Remote Control, however, was the stellar set design that resembled a messy basement, complete with La-Z-Boy recliners for the contestants that flipped backwards into the rear wall whenever someone was eliminated. With lots of celebrities appearing as both guests and contestants, the series spawned a few big names of its own, including host Ken Ober’s sidekick announcer Colin Quinn, with other segments featuring Adam Sandler and Denis Leary.

• Standout Element: The TV game board rocked, but it’s hard to deny the endless pleasure of seeing an unlucky loser being physically removed from the set to the audience singing “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.”

23. Lingo

Hosts: Michael Reagan, Ralph Andrews, Chuck Woolery, Bill Engvall, RuPaul Charles

A fun and quizzical mix of bingo chance and mystery words, Lingo arrived on the scene in 1987 for a one-season syndicated run, but the game show truly became a household staple during its first Game Show Network run (2002-07), with Chuck Woolery heading things up. The latter two versions —- GSN (2011) and CBS’ primetime version in 2023 — aren’t quite on the same level, as fine as they are, and it seems pretty clear that Lingo played a big part in everyone getting obsessed with Wordle for a while.

• Standout Element: It’s definitely the Wordle challenge of figuring out short words with limited chances, but there’s also a strange pleasure in watching contestants hold up their balls all wrong.

22. Win Ben Stein's Money

Hosts: Ben Stein, Jimmy Kimmel, Nancy Pimental, Sal Iacono

This Daytime Emmy-winner from Comedy Central is a solid trivia game show in and of itself, with oodles of wordplay on display. But a lot of the show’s fun comes from Ferris Bueller vet Ben Stein flipping from host to competitor midway through each episode, as he tries to thwart the remaining two contestants from winning the money in his “bank.” Stein’s dry comedy complemented well against Man Show vets Kimmel and Iacono. Fairly low stakes for a major game show — $5,000 grand prizes, with latter-day Ben Stein’s Cup episodes inviting past winners to vie for a $25,000 prize — but that’s possibly how it stayed on the air for 6 seasons and more than 700 episodes from 1997-2003.

• Standout Element: As a winking jab at Jeopardy!, the show would “punish” players who accidentally answered in the form of a question by making them wear a dunce cap until the current round ended. Gotta love a gimmick.

21. Concentration / Classic Concentration

Hosts: Hugh Downs, Jack Barry, Bob Clayton, Ed McMahon, Jack Narz, Alex Trebek

First produced in 1958 by NBC, Concentration took its inspiration from the children’s memory game, with contestants matching numbers across a board with a rebus puzzle hiding behind it. Its initial run lasted 14 years, with nearly 3,800 episodes filmed, and immediately gave way to the syndicated version (1973-1978), with the Alex Trebek-hosted iteration airing on NBC from 1987-1991. While memory games may not be the most challenging, the various prizes and ability to steal an opponent’s winnings changed things up enough.

• Standout Element: Figuring out a rebus puzzle before all of the numbers were gone yet is a good way to feel like a mild genius for part of an afternoon.

20. America Says

Host: John Michael Higgins

A quasi-fusion of Family Feud and Match Game mechanics, Game Show Network’s America Says is similarly as enjoyable and easy to get into as both of the aforementioned classics. The simple concept involves players attempting to guess the top 7 answers to a variety of survey questions, with the first letter revealed for each word, as well as its estimated length based on blank-space size. Longtime comedy vet John Michael Higgins (Best in Show, Pitch Perfect) is an easy-breezy peach of a frontman, with plenty of quips and self-deprecating roasts to keep things amusing during its five seasons (2018-2022).

• Standout Element: The consistent balance between somewhat easy answers and less obvious ones, both within the main game and during the Bonus Round.

19. Supermarket Sweep

Hosts: Bill Malone, David Ruprecht, Leslie Jones

Grocery shopping may not always sound like a grand idea, but if it was anything like Supermarket Sweep, we’d likely never stop. The consumer-focused game show first aired on ABC from 1965-1967, but many fans are no doubt most familiar with the Lifetime (1990-95) and PAX TV (2000-03) versions, for which more than 1,100 episodes were produced. ABC’s reboot (2020-21) hosted by Leslie Jones didn’t quite hit the same highs, but definitely still made me want to start running up and down grocery aisles looking for marked items for higher prize money.

• Standout Element: Game-planning one’s own Super Sweep round and comparing it to what the contestants actually do, while wondering why so many people seemed to only add giant high-price items instead of smaller goods.

18. Weakest Link

Hosts: Anne Robinson, George Gray, Jane Lynch

Based on the UK series, the American take on Weakest Link hit a few years after Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, and brought a similar high-stakes approach to the quiz format, only with contestants needing to work together for bigger winnings. For those who enjoy quiz-play over dramatics, the syndicated era (2002-03) is probably more ideal than NBC’s surprisingly short-lived first interaction (2001-02) or its most current version (2020-present). As well, this show features one of the most hardcore catchprases in all of game show TV: “You are the weakest link. Goodbye.”

• Standout Element: Whenever a group of contestants was actually smart enough to know how to properly bank the biggest totals, and also managed to get the right answers.

17. You Bet Your Life

Hosts: Groucho Marx, Buddy Hackett, Bill Cosby, Jay Leno

Kicking off its 75+-year lifespan as a radio series, You Bet Your Life’s transition to TV was a huge success in large part due to its initial host Groucho Marx entering his post-Marx Brothers solo era. In fact, much of the show’s legacy is tied to its lengthy NBC run (1950-1961) with Marx cracking audiences and contestants up left and right with both his witty banter and his trademark facial stylings, with the quiz questions taking a backseat. The syndicated versions of You Bet Your Life (1980-81, 1992-93, 2021-23) similarly opted for past-their-prime comedians as hosts, though with lesser results.

• Standout Element: Groucho Marx’s no-brainer questions were fun and empathetic, but nothing beats seeing the comedy legend chatting it up with other icons such as genre writers Ray Bradbury and William Peter Blatty, boxers Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano, actors Ernie Kovacs and Jayne Mansfield, and more.

16. To Tell The Truth

Hosts: Bud Collyer, Garry Moore, Joe Garagiola, Robin Ward, Gordon Elliott, Lynn Swann, Alex Trebek, John O'Hurley, Anthony Anderson

To date, more than 4,000 episodes of To Tell the Truth have been produced since the franchise debuted on CBS (1956-68), and at least one version of the series has aired in every decade since. Which goes to show just how popular this game show was and largely still is, with Anthony Anderson hosting the most recent primetime run (2016-2022). The gameplay has remained largely the same throughout its many decades, with a set of challengers each posing as the same person while answering questions from a panel of celebrities who are trying to figure out the real deal.

• Standout Element: While To Tell the Truth deserves pop culture props for giving “The Real Slim Shady” a source for its hook, a big draw here is nearly eight decades of celebrities, such as Johnny Carson, Betty White, Nipsey Russell, Dave Coulier, and Nikki Glaser. And Anthony Anderson’s mom.

15. Name That Tune

Hosts: Red Benson, Bill Cullen, George DeWitt, Richard Hayes, Dennis James, Tom Kennedy, Jim Lange, Jane Krakowski

Though music is a common category in quiz shows, Name That Tune (not to mention its radio show influences) is on a different plane, with questions coming in the form of song snippets that contestants must bet on recognizing. Transitioning from radio to TV in 1953, where it aired on both NBC (1953-54) and CBS (1953-59), before later enjoying syndicated runs (1970-71, 1974-81, 1984-85) and its current incarnation on Fox (2021-present), whose third season featured celebrities as the contestants. That it continues getting rebooted is a sign of the format’s appeal, which certainly helped inspire Jamie Foxx’s Beat Shazam.

• Standout Element: Loudly guessing correct Rice-a-Roni prices and Ibsen plays is fun for other game shows, but it’s a special kind of pride that comes with identifying a song in three or fewer notes.

14. Card Sharks

Hosts: Jim Perry, Bob Eubanks, Bill Rafferty, Pat Bullard, Joel McHale

Card Sharks’ various mechanics largely come from other game shows, such as Family Feud’s group-surveyed questions and answers as well as Price Is Right’s higher-or-lower wagering system. But that doesn’t stop the combination of elements from being a winner, and just about everyone has cashed in. NBC launched it from 1978-81, and it later flipped to CBS (1986-89) and its first run in syndication (1986-87), followed by another (2001-02) ahead of an extended dorman phase that ended with the Joel McHale-hosted stint on ABC (2019-21). The rule changes have helped freshen things up between versions, though all the show really needs is oversized playing cards, and the rest works itself out.

• Standout Element: Card Sharks is another A+ example of Bob Eubanks’ charm, but it deserves credit for helping put future Night Court co-star and regular game show contestant Markie Post in front of TV audiences as a card dealer.

13. Cash Cab

Hosts: Ben Bailey, Beth Melewski, Adam Growe

Another one of many successful American game shows spun out of a UK format, Cash Cab is also one of the longest-running, with always genial comedian Ben Bailey driving the titular quiz-mobile for the bulk of its run across Discovery (2005-12, 2017-18) and Bravo (2019-20); though not the locational spinoff Cash Cab: Chicago or the 2024 AXS revival Cash Cab Music. The premise is simple enough, with myriad New York residents shocked to discover they’re in a traveling game show. Unlike many others in the genre, this isn’t a game show people get rich from, with pretty low-level takeaways even for the highest earners. Rather, Cash Cab boasts randomly timed rounds, depending on trip times, and one of the most hilarious forms of TV elimination: after three wrong answers, the cab stops and the contestants have to find a new ride.

• Standout Element: The final double-or-nothing round, should the riders choose to partake, is a great way to add some gambling-esque risks into the mix, since they players got a free ride out of it no matter what.

12. Match Game

Hosts: Gene Rayburn, Ross Shafer, Michael Burger, Alec Baldwin

One of the first game shows that truly thrived on the bawdy nature of double entendres, Match Game delivered easy-to-understand but not always easy to master gameplay, especially with panels featuring slightly more off-kilter panelists. Gene Rayburn and his signature mic fronted the fan-fave series for the bulk of its early runs on NBC (1962-69), CBS (1973-79), and syndicated (1975-81, 1979-82), with a plethora of familiar faces regularly filling up the panel seats, such as fellow host Richard Dawson, Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers and more. Later versions — syndicated (1998-99) and another ABC run (2016-21) — brought back a lot of the early era’s classic guests while mixing in others. Its latest iteration, hosted by Alec Baldwin, was canceled in April 2022.

• Standout Element: Many of the question scenarios and answers posed in Match Game can be groaners to say the least, but when they pair up completely in the comedy’s favor, and you get a moment like Betty White snorting with laughter, all the groans were worth it.

11. What's My Line?

Hosts: John Charles Daly, Wally Bruner, Larry Blyden

While many of the earliest episodes of What’s My Line? have been lost or destroyed, its success kept it on the air from 1950-67 on CBS, and from 1968-75 in syndication, so more than enough episodes survived to have maintained its status and legacy as a hilarious game show. The gameplay traditionally has a panel of regulars attempting to guess the occupation of the episode’s guests, with one round featuring a mystery celebrity that must be identified, with a huge number of Hollywood legends appearing such as Alfred Hitchcock, Doris Day, Lucille Ball, the Rat Pack, Fred Astaire, Ava Gardner and many more as mystery guests. (Even Salvador Dali appeared, with Random House co-founder Bennett Cerf as a longtime regular panelist.) Despite not having aired a new episode since 1975, reruns somehow don’t feel nearly as aged as one might expect, although the use of the phrase “Is it bigger than a breadbox?” will make it feel just a bit dated.

• Standout Element: The fact that the format somehow hasn’t successfully been revived in the decades since it ended, though attempts were made with Harry Anderson in 2000 (with that pilot being skipped over in place of Survivor, which is while), and with David Hasselohoff in 2008.

10. The Chase

Hosts: Brooke Burns, Sara Haines

Based on the British series of the same name, the American take on The Chase started off on GSN (2013-2015) featuring the UK version’s Mark Labbett. But it was with ABC’s primetime iteration (2021-present) that it entered the quiz format’s upper echelon, thanks to additional chasers such as Jeopardy vets Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, Brad Rutter, Buzzy Cohen, Victoria Groce and Brandon Blackwell. The individual chases are fun enough, but this is the rare series whose final round brings the contestants together as a team, which adds that much more variety to the format.

• Standout Element: Anytime contestants are able to best the chasers and pull out the win feels as earned as any game show victory possible.

9. Password

Hosts: Allen Ludden, Bert Convy, Regis Philbin, Steve Zaragoza, Keke Palmer

An absolute classic game show format that has been built upon by many other shows, as well as a few of its own spinoffs, Password featured memorable host Allen Ludden across its initial CBS run (1961-67), its shift to ABC (1971-75), and its flip to NBC as Password Plus (1979-82). The word association game featured numerous game show regulars like Richard Dawson and Vicki Lawrence in the early days, with Regis Philbin’s Million Dollar Password (2008-09) welcoming comedians such as Norm Macdonald and Chelsea Handler. The latest version for NBC, which debuted in 2022 with Jimmy Fallon as an executive producer, has featured celeb contestants such as Martin Short, Jon Cryer, Heidi Klum and more.

• Standout Element: Even with all the format tweaks over the years, the wildly easy gameplay is key to this show’s long-lasting appeal.

8. Let's Make A Deal

Hosts: Monty Hall, Bob Hilton, Billy Bush, Wayne Brady

The fast-paced and off-the-wall Let’s Make a Deal was co-created by Monty Hall, the very entertainer who served as its host for nearly 25 years across its runs on NBC (1963-68), ABC (1968-76) and its various syndicated runs that spanned on and off between 1971 and 1986. So many elements of this show have remained memorable through to the CBS iteration hosted by Wayne Brady (2009-present), from the bizarre assortment of costumes worn throughout the crowd of potential contestants to the endless number of ways the hosts attempt to get players to trade increasing amounts of money for mystery prizes hidden behind doors and boxes. The show remains unpredictable, as it’s never clear when competitors are going to successfully swap $250 for a brand new car, or when they’re going to foolishly trade out $500 for a lackluster prize like a live burro or a hundred pineapples. I’m also quite fond of the instant-gratification moments where Hall or Brady (or one of the others) will give an audience member a $100 bill if she has a mint in her purse.

• Standout Element: The game’s keep-or-trade offer took on a new life of its own within the world of probability theory as the “Monty Hall problem,” which dictates that it’s always the best bet to take the trade, at least in a game without host manipulations.

7. The $100,000 Pyramid

Hosts: Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, John Davidson, Donny Osmond, Mike Richards, Michael Strahan

No matter what dollar amount shows up in front of the titular structure, just about every version of Pyramid that pops up on TV is worth stopping on, though with Dick Clark as the GOAT host, and Michael Strahan in second place. The gameplay is so solid in this franchise that it’s pretty much stayed the same from its original $10,000 Pyramid run on CBS (1973-74) through to ABC’s ongoing $100,000 Pyramid. Contestants and celeb partners try to land 7 answers for a bevy of themed categories, culminating in bonus rounds within the instantly recognizable chair set-up in front of the giant gameboard. While this series is slightly harder to play at home with ease, since the answers appear on the bottom of the screen, the rounds are quick enough that they’re fun to watch even without doing any guessing.

• Standout Element: Few game show rounds are quite as satisfying to watch as a perfectly in-sync celebrity-partner pairing who demolish the Winner’s Circle in hardly any time.

6. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Hosts: Regis Philbin, Meredith Vieira, Cedric the Entertainer, Terry Crews, Chris Harrison, Jimmy Kimmel

A series that helped revitalize the primetime game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? was a runaway ratings smash in the early days of its ABC run (1999-2002), which helped spark the long-running syndicated version (2002-19) and eventually the short-lived ABC revival (2020-21). A quiz show like no other — well, except for the original UK format — Millionaire gave contestants a feasible shot at winning the titular grand prize by answering just 15 questions, with a variety of lifeline options over the years to latch onto. That immense hype for the show, helped along by Regis Philbin’s enjoyably low-key hosting, wasn’t for the long-haul, but it was strong enough to make “That’s my final answer?” and “Phone a Friend” everyday phrases. This modern-day update to the $64,000 Question concept also remains notable for introducing such highly dramatized camerawork and in-studio lighting, as well as its frequent pregnant pauses that inspire contestants to offer the most delightfully banal exposition behind why they’re choosing an answer.

• Standout Element: Given that contestants are only facing their own lack of knowledge in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, it’s always ideal to see someone go the distance and earn the big prize, especially given how un-fun it can be when players lose on the fifth or sixth question, leading to another cycle of insultingly easy multiple-choice questions.

5. Family Feud

Hosts: Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, John O'Hurley, Steve Harvey

Family Feud has been a TV staple since 1976, with original host Richard Dawson earning quite the lippy reputation throughout his ABC run, which lapsed in 1985, and during his one-season return from 1994-95.. The game show’s formula, which hinges on surveyed answers from 100 men and women, has barely changed a bit since that time, with only ancillary ideas like the Bullseye and Bankroll rounds coming and going.

Its ongoing syndicated run, which started in 1999, has been fronted by the fan-adored comedian Steve Harvey since 2010, after past host John O’Hurley left due to an increase in sexually charged questions. (A fair complaint.) Outside of such mature material, Family Feud remains a show that just about anyone can sit down and play from home as a viewer without feeling the need to study anything first. And the introduction of the Celebrity Family Feud spinoff has only made the star-studded installments even more fun to keep up with.

• Standout Element: No host before Steve Harvey was known for highly animated reactions to contestants’ answers, but the Think Like a Man author will regularly lose all composure and decorum whenever someone’s guess skews overtly naughty or completely illogical.

4. Press Your Luck

Hosts: Peter Tomarken, Todd Newton, Elizabeth Banks

Given how often reruns aired for CBS’ Press Your Luck throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, one might have assumed its run lasted far longer than just three seasons (1983-86). But its admittedly massive 750+-episode stretch was the only show with Big Bucks until GSN’s short-lived reboot (2002-03), to be later followed by the Elizabeth Banks-fronted primetime revival on ABC (2019-present).

Though partly a quiz show, most viewers would probably agree the core part of the Press Your Luck viewing experience is watching players try to avoid going bankrupt or worse on the big board, aiming to seek out giant sums of money without landing on one of the endlessly frustrating Whammies, which are also admittedly always fun to watch. This particular game show is also somewhat infamous for contestant Michael Larson, who took home a fortune during his 1984 appearances after having memorized the board’s repeated patterns at home.

• Standout Element: The 2019 revival’s introduction of the final bonus round, in which the episode’s winner gets a solo shot at potentially winning $1,000,000, raises the stakes quite considerably, to the point where a Whammy can go from being merely annoying to literally life-altering, if the contestant has a big enough total banked.

3. Wheel Of Fortune

Hosts: Chuck Woolery, Pat Sajak, Rolf Benirschke, Bob Goen, Susan Stafford, Vanna White

One of producer Merv Griffin’s greatest creations, Wheel of Fortune is as much an American institution as most contact sports and Starbucks, with word puzzles based on the children’s game Hangman and a weighted wheel sliced into various dollar amounts. Though the long-gone daytime edition featured several hosts including Chuck Woolery, the evening version of Wheel of Fortune has always featured Pat Sajak as its frontman, and will until his retirement following Season 43. And that longevity goes a long way in cementing WoF as one of the best game shows of all time, as it implies a kind of consistency that few small-screen competitors can commit to.

Which is to say nothing of the always enjoyable gameplay, the crafty (though occasionally questionable) puzzles, and the variety of on-wheel prizes for contestants to vie for, all while avoiding the dreaded Bankrupt space. The series has spawned a plethora of commercial board games, video games, and more ways to enjoy the puzzle-solving life from one’s own couch, if without the stars of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

• Standout Element: Watching a contestant pull off a majestical solve based on a single letter is only slightly less awesome than being the one to make that superb solve. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t fun watching players offer up the worst guesses humanly possible.

2. The Price Is Right

Hosts: Bill Cullen, Bob Barker, Dennis James, Tom Kennedy, Doug Davidson, Drew Carey

The daytime TV staple The Price Is Right originally ran on NBC from 1956-63 before last two more seasons on ABC(1963-65) — and featured both Don Pardo and Johnny Gilbert as announcers — but it’s the 1972 revival hosted by Bob Barker that most TV viewers above a certain age will always hold as the most classic iteration. The show has produced more than 10,000 episodes across all iterations, including the New Price Is Right syndicated edition (1994-95) and the continued daytime run with Drew Carey taking over as host in 2007.

It’s a series that remains go-to programming for bored retirees and homemakers, as well as those home sick from school or work, with viewers’ valuation skills being put to the test through a variety of different games and gimmicks. (Many would agree that Plinko remains a #1 part of the show, despite being based far more on chance than more intuitive challenges.) From the iconic visual of the big wheel to crafty wagering in the Showcase Showdown, every level of The Price Is Right is gamified for players’ and viewers’ enjoyment. The phrase “closest without going over” is also a memorable takeaway from this series’ existence, though perhaps not so much as Johnny Gilbert's signature "Come on down!"

• Standout Element: While I could probably watch a game show that was wholly fixated on the big wheel, I think possibly the best thing about watching The Price is Right is how unfiltered and authentic some of the contestants’ reactions are, even before they actually win anything.

1. Jeopardy!

Hosts: Art Fleming, Alex Trebek, Mike Richards, Mayim Bialik, Ken Jennings

For over 36 years, Jeopardy! and Alex Trebek went together like peanut butter and chocolate, with the oft-mustachioed host taking the reins in 1984 following prior NBC iterations (1964-75, 1978-79) fronted by Art Fleming. (As depicted in “Weird” Al Yankovic’s famed single and music video “I Lost on Jeopardy.”) It’s in part because of Trebek’s stoic and honorable run that Jeopardy!’s popularity surged over time, pulling in some of its biggest modern-day ratings during James Holzhauer’s win streak.

Though the show’s quality took a temporary dip after Trebek’s death in 2020, as producers went through a revolving door of guest hosts before giving the job to executive producer Mike Richards for a single day, the ship mostly righted itself thereafter. First with the record-breaking champ Ken Jennings sharing duties with The Big Bang Theory vet Mayim Bialik, and then with Jennings being promoted to lone host in December 2023. It’s already the greatest American quiz show, but by focusing more on tournaments centered on former champions’ returns, Jeopardy! continues thriving and evolving into an even more challenging series. And it would be easy enough to argue that the extended edition of Celebrity Jeopardy! and its six total Daily Doubles are a welcome charitable reprieve from the daily games.

• Standout Element: Though not everyone will agree on this, Jeopardy! became a far more competitive and unpredictable viewing experience once players such as Arthur Chu and James Holzhauer turned the Forrest Bounce into the new normal for incoming hopefuls, where only big wagers are welcomed.

There you have it, game show fans. Maybe in the near-to-distant future, more recent series such as Mario Lopez's Blank Slate, the Rob Lowe-hosted trivia show The Floor, or a show that hasn't even premiered yet will make the final cut. But for now, in the immortal words of Bob Barker: "Have your pets spayed or neutered."

Drew Carey is no stranger to the spotlight, having served as host of The Price is Right since 2007 after already earning a reputation as actor and comedian. He also hasn’t been shy about his dramatic and inspiring weight loss journey, as the differences over the years are astounding. The longtime host is opening up about his experience, and what made him want lose the weight.

The Ohio-native celebrity has transformed himself before, after keeping his military haircut for years. His weight is perhaps the biggest transformation that Carey has gone through in the public eye, and he spoke to People about losing 80 pounds in 2010 and how it came to be. He had a pretty solid return during his first year as host, and it wasn’t all that great:

Whether this would happen after every show or just once in a while is unknown, but it does sound like it was happening enough to the point where Carey wanted to make some changes. Thanks to his doctor, he got the wake-up call he needed by telling him:

After that, Drew Carey largely cut out carbs and did 45-minute cardio workouts throughout the week. He claims he’s lost “1,000 pounds over my whole life” and weighs 80 lbs. lighter “more or less.” On top of that, he doesn’t have Type 2 diabetes anymore. He does make exceptions for carbs, but mostly stays away from them. Carey shares how much better his life is now that he’s improved his health and loves himself much more:

Carey also confessed that he feels good when he’s looking in the mirror and doesn’t have to worry about a store not having something in his size, which is always a plus. Along with loving himself more and having more confidence, the Price is Right host says he likes the energy he has now, which is definitely something he needs to have while hosting a game show. Even though his journey was not easy, the end result was clearly worth it for his healthier life, better attitude, and better energy. 

Seeing the transformation on The Price is Right over the years is incredible. Carey also recently opened up about getting closure after his former fiancé’s killer was sentenced. As The Prince is Right continues with no end in sight, Carey is moving forward with his life. It's going to be great to see how he inspires everyone next.

Bob Barker was one of the best to ever do it when it comes to hosting game shows, as he led The Price Is Right for 35 years before retiring in 2007. Those were some pretty big shoes that Drew Carey was tasked with filling, and 17 years after he first began leading excited contestants through games of guessing the actual retail price of selected items, the comedian got real about how nervous he was to follow Barker. In fact, it seems one of his big fears was the show getting canceled and him being responsible for its downfall.

Drew Carey has said he learned a lot from the iconic game show host, and those lessons have contributed to him remaining the host of The Price Is Right for the past 17 years, but that doesn’t change the fact that stepping in for Bob Barker was a daunting task. On Who’s Talking To Chris Wallace? On MAX, the host asked Carey if he was intimidated to inherit the series from “the Babe Ruth of game shows,” to which Carey replied: 

One of those traditions was continuing to remind people to help control the pet population by having their pets spayed and neutered — a cause that was close to animal rights advocate Bob Barker’s heart. Drew Carey continues to end The Price Is Right episodes with that signoff. 

Taking over for Bob Barker — who died August 26, 2023, at the age of 99 — wasn’t just about Drew Carey honoring his predecessor, though, and it seems Barker knew that. Chris Wallace asked if Barker gave Carey any advice at the time, which led to this exchange: 

• CAREY: Yes, he gave me the best advice. He said uh, ‘Don't try to copy me. Just do your own show.’ And my joke is I don't know if it was a threat or a...
• WALLACE: Whether he was trying to sabotage you?
• CAREY: But that was the best advice. Like he knew that you couldn't get up and, and...
• WALLACE: Be Bob Barker.
• CAREY: Yeah, you have to do your own show. And then if they like it, they liked it, or they don't. And I just want, I was just hoping people would accept me.

I love to think that Bob Barker was actually threatening Drew Carey to not copy him, but now, nearly two decades into Carey’s reign on the show, hopefully he can rest assured that fans have, indeed, embraced him. For having been concerned about the show being canceled, Carey definitely seems as confident as ever in The Price Is Right’s longevity, saying he could see the show lasting for 100 years, and that he’s humbled to be a part of its legacy.

The WGA strike cost a lot. The strike cost studios money but it also cost a great deal for the writers who made the decision to walk off the job in order to fight for what they felt they deserved. While some of the writers were in a financial position to not be hurt too badly by the loss of income, for many more it was a big hit, but luckily for them, Drew Carey was there.

If you’ve been following the WGA strike, you may have heard a story about Drew Carey, the host of The Price Is Right who reportedly agreed to pay for any meal eaten by members of the WGA for the duration of the strike at two L.A. restaurants. While Carey spoke very little publicly about what he was doing, Deadline estimates that the bill at Bob’s Big Boy and Swingers cost him somewhere in the neighborhood of a half million dollars. And Carey did ultimately confirm publicly what he was doing after the WGA deal was reached.

Drew Carey reportedly makes somewhere north of $12 million per year hosting The Price is Right, which he took over from the late Bob Barker in 2007. Barker had an estate with $70 million when he passed away so game show hosting is a pretty decent gig. As such spending a half million dollars on food for people he will never meet isn’t an expense that’s going to break Drew Carey, but it’s also not an insignificant amount of money, even for him. Clearly, it was a cause Carey felt was worth supporting.

And it’s an amount of money that Drew Carey can afford, while simply buying lunch while they were out on the picket line would be a much more significant financial burden for a lot of the writers who were taking advantage of it. A lot of writers have been showering Carey with praise for what he did during the strike.

Reportedly, writers simply needed to show their WGA card at the restaurants, and whatever they ordered was simply added to the bill that Drew Carey had already agreed to pay. This made it incredibly easy for people to get food,

We’ve seen other celebrities do some pretty nice stuff due to the strikes. Dwayne Johnson made a massive donation to the fund being used to help out the people from all over Hollywood whose lives were inconvenienced by the strikes. He was one of several who used the wealth they had to help out those who hadn’t reached that level of success, but still made a living from the entertainment industry. 

With writers back at work a lot of Hollywood can start going back to business as usual, but until the actors’ strike is resolved many more will still be waiting. 

Fans of The Price is Right and those associated with the show are still mourning the great Bob Barker. The beloved longtime host of the CBS series died in August at age 99 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. A number of stars were quick to pay tribute to the late TV icon, including his Happy Gilmore co-star Adam Sandler and media personality Tom Bergeron. The show's current host, Drew Carey, was among those to honor his predecessor, and the series also aired a special tribute episode in Barker's honor. Now, Carey is opening up about what he learned from the TV staple and explaining just why "he was so good" at his job.

Bob Barker hosted The Price is Right from 1972 until his retirement in 2007 and also headlined Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1975. Even after he left the former program, he appeared in a few more episodes, including a special April Fool’s Day episode, in which he swapped places with Drew Carey. Following Barker's death, ET caught up with Carey on the set of the long-running show. While discussing his mentor's work, Carey discussed a key factor that made Barker so successful: 

Anyone who has ever seen the game show likely. knows it's far from relaxing. Contestants have even hurt themselves, even falling flat on their faces while on the show. However, amid all the chaos, Bob Barker always seemed calm and collected. One would imagine that contestants appreciated his easy-going nature during those tapings. With that, Drew Carey went on to say that he's been trying to channel some of those same serene vibes:

Drew Carey has been hosting The Price is Right for a while now and has done a good job. It's evident that he's taken cues from his hero, but Carey has also been developing his own unique approach to the game. All the while, he still received guidance, as Bob Barker apparently gave him sage advice. The notion of having to pick up and carry the torch for a star like Bob Barker is daunting, but Carey is doing it well, even if he still thinks he needs to loosen up more.

Bob Barker is easily one of the best game show hosts ever, and his legacy will live on in a myriad of ways. Aside from his contributions to TV, he reportedly left his fortune to a host of charities. That's not too surprising, since he notably became a philanthropist in his later years. It's honestly still a bit weird knowing that Barker is no longer around. Drew Carey and more will surely miss his relaxed, on-camera demeanor as well as his vivacious desire for change as a social activist in his personal life.

Still a mainstay on daytime TV, new episodes of The Price is Right can be viewed in syndication amid the sea of content that makes up the 2023 TV schedule.

Even though Bob Barker died at 99, he is still making a big impact on the world. Plenty of people paid tribute to the late The Price is Right host, making it clear that Barker meant a lot to so many people for many different reasons. Obviously, lots of folks know him as the longtime host of The Price is Right, but he was also well-regarded as an avid animal rights activist. Now, we seem to know his net worth because it's reportedly being given to numerous charities, carrying on that legacy. 

RadarOnline reports that Bob Barker’s $70 million fortune is going to animal charities. A longtime friend said that it “shouldn’t come as a surprise” since his love of animals was “well-known throughout his lifetime.” These generous donations are the latest thing the late host did to support animal rights. Over the years he has donated to multiple universities to support the study of animal rights, he founded the DJ&T Foundation to fund animal rescue and park facilities and help pets get sprayed and neutered, and he donated over $2 million to People for Ethical Treatment of Animals to build a building for PETA in Los Angeles.

That’s not all Bob Barker has done for animals. He’s participated in several PETA public service announcements and donated $5 million to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society so they could purchase and outfit a ship to interdict Japanese whaling operations in the Southern Ocean. He also ended every episode of The Price is Right, starting in 1982, by reminding viewers to “Help control the pet population” and to have their pets spayed or neutered.

It's unknown what charities will be getting money, but it seems like no matter what a lot of them will be carrying on a little piece of Bob Barker’s legacy. Considering his love for animals and the fact that he didn’t have kids, it makes perfect sense that he is using his fortune to continue helping animals even after his death. It just shows the kind of person that Barker was, and it’s sweet to see that his legacy will continue on. 

Bob Barker’s life was lived to the fullest. Although he retired from The Price is Right in 2006, he still made every moment count. He returned to the series a few times after his retirement, including for the show’s 50th anniversary. The long-time host also returned for an April Fool’s episode, swapping places with Drew Carey. One of his other beloved roles was in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, and it was a pretty memorable one.

It's hard knowing that Bob Barker is no longer with us, but it’s clear that his impact on TV and his love for animals will always live on. 

Something bothered me after the iconic Bob Barker died in August. First, it broke my heart that Hollywood lost an icon, who lived to the ripe old age of 99 and carved out an indelible mark on a generation of television audiences. But in the wake of Barker’s death, almost everyone immediately linked him to his unforgettable cameo in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, where the two fought to the death on the golf course. And it should be mentioned. But not at the expense of Barker’s legendary run as the host of the daytime game show The Price is Right. 

That’s wrong. 

Game shows are a staple of the television medium, dating back to Melody Puzzles in 1937, Battle of Sexes in 1938, The Ask-It Basket in 1939. They grew to grand stature in the 1960s and 70s courtesy of hit game shows such as Jeopardy, The Gong Show, The $10,000 Pyramid, and Wheel of Fortune, to name just a few. It was during that stretch that Barker took over as host of The Price is Right (in 1972), and it’s a position that he held for 35 years before retiring in 2007. His influence still can be felt in the game-show environment to this day, from the advice Barker gave to replacement host Drew Carey to the energy and attitude that’s reflected in modern hosts like Steve Harvey or Michael Strahan. 

With all of that in mind, I started to think about where Bob Barker would rank in the grand pantheon of game show hosts. And I realized that I knew way more about game show hosts than I ever assumed. Now, I’m keeping this focused on traditional game shows, not reality competitions (sorry, Jeff Probst). And so, here are the 15 greatest game show hosts of all time.

15. Pat Sajak 

Pat Sajak makes it onto this list due to his longevity. The man has presided over Wheel of Fortune for more than four decades, which is a LONG time to be listening to people guess the same letters over and over, five nights a week. I preferred Wheel of Fortune when the contestants used to shop in between rounds, their floating heads purchasing items off of a set. At least then, Sajak had time to interact with his winners. Because my biggest knock on Sajak is that he’s vanilla, and his lack of viral moments in that 40+ year career tells you exactly how boring he managed to be. With all due respect, props to the man for keeping the wheel spinning, but maybe the show would have been more entertaining with Vanna White in the hosting role? It’s not too late to find out.

14. Marc Summers

If you are nodding your head at this placement (or even challenging that it needs to be higher), then you are amongst the millions of readers who spent time after school cheering on families as they competed in outrageous physical challenges that usually involved finding a flag in the messiest situations possible. Marc Summers presided over Double Dare on Nickelodeon, and stood out because he didn’t mind embracing the chaos that came with the clever competitions invented for the show. It was fun watching parents and kids clawing through life-sized bowls of spaghetti and sauce in hopes of winning a prize. But it was uproarious seeing the affable Summers coated in the same goop by the end of almost every episode, doing whatever it took to get the laugh. Trebek would never. 

13. Regis Philbin / Dick Clark (tie)

Here’s the thing about the two men I have tied for 13th place on this list: Neither of them needed to be the host of a game show. They already were extremely popular (and successful) thanks to other endeavors. Both Regis Philbin and Dick Clark were staples in the homes of Americans thanks to other work they did on television. I’d put them in the same category as Michael Strahan, Elizabeth Banks, Jane Lynch, or Ben Stein. I don’t think of them as game show hosts first. They are entertainers who happened to host a show at some point in their career. But Philbin and Clark were so memorable as hosts of extremely popular primetime game shows (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and The $10,000 Pyramid, respectively), that leaving them off of the list would be wrong. 

12. Bob Eubanks

Where Regis and Dick Clark were known well outside the realm of their respective game show gigs, Bob Eubanks basically had The Newlywed Game as his badge of honor. But he was so effective at getting couples to talk about “making whoopee,” it immediately cemented him in the pantheon of game show hosts. Eubanks succeeded as a radio deejay before helping to launch The Newlywed Game in 1966, and his ability to disarm his contestants with open and candid conversation likely came from his early years on live radio. And because Eubanks kept returning to the format during several revivals, he became the only person in the entertainment industry to host the same game show in six consecutive decades (from the 1960s through the 2010s). 

11. Anne Robinson

Do you know one thing that a game show host can do to cement their legacy? Come up with a catchphrase. “Have your pet spayed or neutered!” belongs to Bob Barker. “Survey says…” is linked forever to Richard Dawson. And during her run as the host of The Weakest Link, Anne Robinson locked her place on this list with her cruel, cold, and deliciously dismissive, “You are the weakest link. Goodbye.” She didn’t have to be great beyond that, and she’d still get placement on this list. But because Robinson had tight chemistry with her contestants that I put her JUST outside the Top 10. 

10. Howie Mandel

I almost lumped Howie Mandel into the same category as Regis Philbin and Dick Clark, because I remember him as an extremely successful stand-up comic who used to put rubber gloves over his head and blow them up using only his nose. It was a gimmick, but it worked! Over the years, though, the notorious germaphobe graduated to full-time contest host, and while he’s known for his current run on America’s Got Talent, I think he deserves a call out on this list for his tremendous work on Deal Or No Deal. Mandel’s gift as a stand-up allowed him to have tremendous conversations with the contestants, the banker, and the models holding the cases that were opened during the game. It made for a wildly entertaining, energetic primetime competition that also soared in syndication. Good deal!

9. Jim Lange

Of all the people showcased on this list, Jim Lange might be the most prolific in the game show field. A radio disc jockey (like so many other TV hosts before him), Lange stayed incredibly busy by hosting Oh My Word, $100,000 Name That Tune, Bowling for Dollars, Bullseye, Triple Threat, and others. But his masterpiece has to be The Dating Game, which he presided over for 15 years, charming beautiful bachelorettes with his banter while they fielded questions and answers from hopeful bachelors. Lange was a pro’s pro with a real gift for pacing, and knowing how to keep the flirtatious game show on the right side of the line.  

8. Ken Ober

A few people on this list landed one seminal gig, and made it into a career. That list has to include the brilliant Ken Ober, a comedian and actor who bounced around to a couple of gigs (and even hosted a few other game shows) but forever will be known for his outstanding work on the loose, freestyling, rowdy, and twisted MTV game show Remote Control. It catered to the kids who were tuning into the network on a daily basis. It was low-budget. It was goofy. And Ober was cool, offering snack breaks for the contestants, and introducing Adam Sandler and Colin Quinn to the world. This show needs a reboot, with Ober, Sandler, and Quinn back in their roles.

7. Wink Martindale

Some people were just born to host game shows. And if you embrace the stage name Wink Martindale on behalf of your professional career, you basically accept the fact that this is going to be your lot in life… and it’s best that you try to become the best of the best at it. And that’s what Wink Martindale did, primarily on Tic-Tac-Dough from 1978-85. Martindale made a basic game of tic-tac-toe entertaining and suspenseful, though adding a fire-breathing dragon behind one of the squares probably helped. Basically, though, if you mention the name “Wink,” we immediately think of Tic-Tac-Dough, and that shows real power and influence. 

6. Steve Harvey

Here’s where we start getting into the cream of the crop. Steve Harvey is outstanding as the host of Family Feud and Celebrity Family Feud. And as you’ll see with the list progressing, he had enormous shoes to fill as host of this long-running game show. But Harvey has mastered the art of viral videos, whether they come from emotional surprises in the audience, or hilariously inappropriate answers from clueless contestants. Harvey makes fun without ever insulting, spotlights the absurd for the right amount of time, and has earned the “Uncle Steve” nickname that so many players have lovingly adopted. With Harvey, it’s all in the Family.    

5. Chuck Barris

The top five is filled with heavy hitters. And if you believe Chuck Barris, it’s filled with professional hitmen, as well. Barris once claimed in his autobiography that he had worked for years in the CIA. He retracted that claim years later, then gently retracted the retraction, never revealing the truth before his death in 2017. What we DO know about Barris is that he created two wildly popular game shows in The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game, then turned himself into a household name as the ring leader of the televised circus known as The Gong Show. The acts were increasingly bizarre on that program, and Barris was the idea host, keeping things moving and perpetually entertaining. He was both dependable and unpredictable, in the same package. What a gift. 

4. Gene Rayburn

Play the game with me. “Gene Rayburn was so talented at his job, he could BLANK, and still not get fired!” Cue the unforgettable Match Game theme song. The great Rayburn hosted the classic Match Game, and the best part about him was the way that he interacted with the celebrity panel… which was usually the funniest content on daytime television. Match Game made household names of Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers, Betty White, Vicki Lawrence, Nipsey Russell, and the legendary Rip Taylor. It took a razor-sharp wit and quick mind to keep up with the ball-breaking comics on that show, and Rayburn was magnificent with his timing, comebacks, and banter. Match Game wouldn’t have succeeded without him.

3. Richard Dawson

No one in the game show universe was cooler than Richard Dawson. Dudes admired his humor and style. Every woman on the Family Feud set wanted to kiss him (and usually did). He was a rock star game show host who treated Family Feud like a world tour. He read mildly suggestive clues, fielded bizarre answers from families competing for cash, and he wrung the sharpest jokes out of the entire endeavor. Dawson was a comedic actor on Hogan’s Heroes as well as a beloved panelist on Match Game. But survey says it is his stint on the original Family Feud that turned him into a legend. 

2. Alex Trebek

The late, great Alex Trebek changed the game when it came to hosting a game show. The majority of hosts prior to Trebek treated guests with respect. They were happy to have them there, and usually encouraged them to succeed. Trebek? Not so much. At best, Trebek seemed to tolerate the Jeopardy contestants, a tone that best reflected the intellectual challenge of the program. We wanted to be really good at Jeopardy because we thought it might please Alex Trebek. That attitude probably only works on one show, but Jeopardy was the one to use it on. It turned Trebek into a game show god. 

1. Bob Barker

Bob Barker had it all. The host of The Price is Right was witty, warm, and wise. He could be charming with guests, or impatient (when the contestants warranted it). In time, as Barker grew older and more generations welcomed him into their homes, the television personality felt more like a family member we’d check in on daily, rather than a “character” on a show. But basically, the skilled Barker made the act of guessing grocery prices into an art, and every other game show host we see from this point forward will owe a debt of gratitude to him.

Game show legend Bob Barker passed away at the age of 99 on August 26, and CBS wasted no time in preparing a primetime special to honor the longtime host of The Price Is Right. The hour-long special, called The Price Is Right: A Tribute To Bob Barker, aired with current host Drew Carey noting his predecessor's accomplishments with some personal touches that hinted at how much he admired Barker. The special was also packed with clips of Barker's many years on the game show to remind viewers just how long he was delivering laughs (and prizes) on The Price Is Right, so is it any surprise that fans from home were feeling all the emotions while watching?

Barker hosted The Price Is Right for 35 years from 1972 - 2007, and was known for everything from his on-set shenanigans and interactions with the contestants to his sign-off about spaying and neutering pets to even his celebrity pals, including Adam Sandler, about whom fans frequently asked Barker due to their unforgettable Happy Gilmore scene. (Sandler was among the many celebs to pay tribute to Barker immediately following his death.) 

The host won fourteen Daytime Emmys for his work on The Price Is Right over more than three decades in front of the camera, and plenty of people on X (formerly known as Twitter) had thoughts and feelings to share. This past weekend, the world lost a true pop culture icon in the form of Bob Barker, the beloved longtime host of The Price is Right. Barker passed away at the tender age of 99 and, after the news broke, a host of fans and fellow celebrities paid tribute to him. There was a particularly sweet outpouring of love from fellow game show veterans. One such person to honor him is Wheel of Fortune legend Vanna White. And in doing that, she shared an excellent throwback of her own appearance on Barker’s show.

Vanna White is widely known for being one of the prime personalities on a well-known game show. However, before she found fame as Pat Sajak’s right-hand, she herself was a contestant on a popular program. In the early ‘80s, the star appeared on TPIR as one of the first four contestants during that particular show. White harkened back to that time in her life when she honored the late TV host on her Instagram. She included a vintage photo as well as a lovely caption: 

It’s funny how life works, isn’t it? Up to that point, Vanna White had only local notoriety as the winner of the Miss Georgia USA pageant in 1978. Her appearance on The Price is Right would mark the first time she’d ever be seen on national television. And of course, it wouldn’t be the last time, as she would ultimately land WoF in 1982. One can’t help but smile over the fact that Bob Barker played a role in what was essentially her introduction to the viewing public. With all of that in mind, the social media post is certainly a sweet tribute. Though she only made it to Contestant’s Row, footage of White’s appearance has made the rounds over the years. Not only has Barker been praised for his skills as a host, but he’s also been cited for being a true animal rights activist. Following his death, his Happy Gilmore co-star, Adam Sandler, paid tribute to him in a sweet way. Other kind sentiments came from current TPIR host Drew Carey, who received invaluable advice from Barker after he took over his post. 

Vanna White, meanwhile, continues to keep game show aficionados entertained through her continued tenure on Wheel of Fortune. At the moment, White is reportedly plotting out her future on WoF, as she’s apparently been in contract negotiations since Pat Sajak announced his imminent retirement. White hasn’t finalized a new contract, as of this writing, even though execs reportedly still want her to appear on the show moving forward. 

We’ll have to wait and see how those negotiations play out but, more immediately, I’m just loving the way Vanna White chose to honor Bob Barker. Like her, many are going to miss the veteran star’s jovial presence and snappy retorts. Barker certainly leaves a void not only in Hollywood but in the world as a whole, but his legacy will surely never be forgotten.

After news broke that the television personality and animal activist had passed away, many celebrities and organizations showed their love for him through sweet tributes, including Adam Sandler, Drew Carey and more. 

In 2007, Drew Carey took over hosting The Price is Right after Bob Barker retired. The current host explained last year, that his predecessor told him to make the game show “your own,” and he listened. Following the news of Barker’s death, the comedian took to Twitter to post his condolences for the beloved game show host. He wrote:

The Price is Right and Paramount also released a joint statement on Instagram to show their love for Barker and the impact he left on the show that celebrated its 50th-anniversary last year. Between 1972 and 2007 the host led 6,586 episodes, won 19 Daytime Emmys, a lifetime achievement award, and a place in the Television Academy's Hall of Fame. Talk about an impressive run. The show and its network noted this success, and the legacy of Bob Barker, writing: 

Of course, Bob Barker was also well known for his cameo in Happy Gilmore, and a silly ongoing feud he had with Adam Sandler. The Uncut Gems actor and the gameshow host developed a friendship, and to pay homage to his golf partner on screen and his real-life pal, the actor posted this sweet message on Instagram:

That scene where Happy and Barker get into a fight is truly iconic, and one of the best moments in Happy Gilmore. SNL alum Rob Schneider thought so too as he retweeted the clip from the movie, and wrote:

Tom Bergeron, posted a personal and heartfelt statement about his fellow TV host. Noting how The Price is Right shot on the same stage as Hollywood Squares, he wrote about how they shared a dressing room, and how the two developed a wonderful friendship over the years. 

Along with many celebrities reacting to Bob Barker’s death, PETA, an organization he worked closely with, also released a statement about the passionate animal rights activist. Ingrid Newkirk, the president of PETA, wrote:

All this appreciation goes to show how many people adored Bob Barker and his incredible career as both a game show host and animal activist. He will be dearly missed, however, his legacy will live on.

The beloved game show host and animal-rights activist died Saturday morning, August 26, of natural causes according to TMZ. A representative for Barker said he passed away in his home in Los Angeles naturally. Roger Neal, his publicist, released a statement announcing his passing, per NBC News, he said:

Bob Barker was the winner of 19 Daytime Emmys, and he received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Television Academy in 1999. The Price is Right's longtime host and his illustrious career were also honored when he was inducted into the Television Academy's Hall of Fame in 2004.

Bob Barker lived a long and wonderful life as he hosted multiple game shows and worked as an animal rights activist. 

In 1956 he got his breakout TV gig as the host of Truth or Consequences on NBC, and he went on to be the face of the show until 1975. For three of those years he was also hosting The Price is Right, because he was hired to host the beloved gameshow for CBS in 1972. I think anyone who has watched Bob Barker host The Price is Right will always remember his sunny demeanor and his saying “Come on down” as he welcomed the excited contestants to the stage. 

Bob Barker retired from The Price is Right in 2007 after hosting 6,586 episodes over 35 years, per Today. Drew Carey took over for him, and the longtime host encouraged him to make the gameshow his own. Looking back on over three decades as host, Barker explained that he loved hosting because of all the love on that set. 

The Price is Right celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, and there’s no question Bob Barker made a major impact on the gameshow and those who competed in it and tuned in. 

Along with his work as a TV personality, Barker was also a passionate animal rights activist. When his wife Dorothy Jo Gideon passed away in 1981 he turned to activism. He founded the DJ&T Foundation, which helped pay for pets to get spayed and neutered. He also donated $2.5 million to People for Ethical Treatment of Animals to build the PETA building in LA, which was named the Bob Barker Building. Staring in the early ‘80s, at the end of every episode of The Price is Right, Barker also said:

While we know Barker best for his time as the host of The Price is Right, he also had a fun career in film and television. He hosted the Miss. Universe and Miss. America pageants for 20 years and he was the longtime host of the New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses Parade. Notably, he also played himself in Happy Gilmore, where he got to fight Adam Sandler. He also played Barney Stinson’s dad in How I Met You Mother, and he had cameos in other shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, Futurama and more.

The Price Is Right is the game show that I would say likely has the most excitable contestants, with people jumping and screaming when their name is called to “Come on down!” The opportunities for celebration only continue through the segments of the game, and Lord help us if someone happens to win “A NEW CAR!” Inevitably, with more than 50 years’ worth of The Price Is Right episodes, the players’ exuberance has sometimes led to injury. That was the case for a recent contestant, who dislocated his shoulder after a big win, as you can see in the video below.

Henry was unable to hold back his enthusiasm after dominating a higher-or-lower game, and The Price Is Right’s Instagram page shared the moment his jubilation went too far: 

The lightning-fast way the contestant guessed those numbers was actually pretty impressive, so I certainly can’t fault him for reveling in his success. Thank goodness there was no gruesome popping-out moment either, because I presume most people don't want to see UFC-style injuries while watching The Price is Right. 

It actually wasn’t obvious at all at the time that his wild arm pumping had resulted in him hurting himself. We actually didn't officially know about it until he made his way over to the big wheel — where his wife Alice joined him — and Drew Carey explained that Henry had sustained the injury: 

It seems Henry is a winner on The Price Is Right and in life, because his wife executed a near-perfect spin on the big wheel, securing 95 cents for her wounded hubby. His game show appearance resulted in winning a trip to Hawaii, but — as the caption above noted — a trip to the ER as well. So while there’s really no telling if there was any net gain from Henry and Alice’s game show experience, they at least left with a good story.

The Price Is Right has seen its share of mishaps over the years, including one person who fell flat on his face after losing at the big wheel. Also, while the contestant who couldn’t figure out how to leave the stage wasn’t actually hurt in her experience, it’s still pretty painful to watch. Poor Molly took it right in the ego, when she mistakenly thought she had won the bidding game and ran on stage just to have Drew Carey inform her that she’d lost.

Other times it’s the models, rather than the contestants, who provide us with priceless viral moments. The Price Is Right’s Amber Lancaster said she might die of embarrassment after she tripped and broke part of the set, and Manuela Arbelaez just recently opened up about being “mortified” during her infamous blooper from 2015, when she accidentally gave away a $21,960 car.

The Price is Right has been around for decades, making people’s dreams come true and giving out cash prizes and more since the 1970s. Even though it’s been around for so long, the series is still coming out with firsts, and after a viral blooper showed model Manuela Arbelaez accidentally giving away a car, she spoke out about it. 

A Season 43 episode saw Manuela Arbelaez, who had been a model on the popular game show for six years at the time, did something that was a first for The Price is Right. A contestant had three chances to choose a price tag that would or would not reveal she won a car, and Arbelaez accidentally revealed the winning one after the contestant only said her first choice. And the moment was priceless:

While it wasn’t necessarily a painful mistake anyone could make, she did immediately realize what she'd done and tried to cover the "WIN" card, but it was too late. Having that happen on television after being on the show for so long could have been a nightmare, but Manuela Arbelaez took it in stride, and evidently, everyone was just laughing about it. 

In an interview with Inside Edition following the airing of the incident, Manuela Arbelaez explained what happened, noting that the buzzer usually goes off when someone loses, and it was natural instinct for her to reveal the winning price tag. And while she was terrified about what happened, she looked on the bright side of things:

She certainly looks mortified in the clip with how she went to hide behind the closest piece of the set that could conceal her, but it didn't seem like a total catastrophe. Everyone at The Price is Right seemed to find the situation funny, and Arbelaez was able to get support from host Drew Carey and the team. She said:

Surprisingly, even though this was a Price is Right first, Manuela Arbelaez is not the only person on a game show to accidentally reveal a winning card. Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak made a Bonus Round mistake a couple of years ago when he accidentally opened the winning envelope as soon as the wheel landed on it, which is usually saved until after the contestant either does or doesn’t solve the final puzzle. So no matter how long a series has been on the air, mistakes can still happen, and it just shows that everyone is human.

Game show bloopers are a common thing, and can be a lot of fun for viewers from home. Sometimes it’s the contestant’s fault by way of not solving a particularly simple puzzle or clue, or the fault of the host or model. While it can’t be stopped, the best thing to do is to just laugh at it because, at the end of the day, mistakes happen, and they can make watching episodes even more enjoyable. Ken Jennings may be the preferred co-host to many contestants who take the Alex Trebek Stage to compete on Jeopardy!, but the record-holding super-champ has faced some backlash over the past couple of weeks. He recently was forced to defend himself over accusations of giving a hint to a player and misreading a clue, and now executive producer Michael Davies has stepped in, after Jennings and contestant Greg Snyder were called out for shading The Price Is Right. Let’s take a look at Jeopardy!’s latest hullabaloo.

What Did Ken Jennings Say About The Price Is Right? 

On the February 7 episode of Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings prompted Greg Snyder to divulge that that was not his first time on a major game show, and the contestant spoke about his appearance on The Price Is Right. He went above and beyond to ensure the host knew this experience was more meaningful than the last, as he said (via TV Line): 

Winning a car on The Price Is Right is no small feat, but Greg Snyder seemed content to downplay the experience, and Ken Jennings fully understood that the road to Jeopardy! is far more taxing than the Drew Carey-hosted affair. Jennings quipped: 

Ken Jennings sounds more like he’s referring to the costumes and antics regularly seen on Let’s Make a Deal, but The Price Is Right has had its share of eccentric contestants as well, who have been known for both cringey and relatable faux pas. Either way, I think we can all agree the Jeopardy! casting process is probably way more intensive. 

EP Michael Davies Weighs In On The Price Is Right Comments 

What should have been an amusing exchange between the host and player turned into an issue, as news stories accused Ken Jennings of “slamming” The Price Is Right. Media outlets even contacted the show for a comment, so executive producer Michael Davies said he felt the need to address the issue on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, saying: 

Michael Davies seems to be solidly in Ken Jennings’ corner, as he pointed out that the host was making a joke, and there is a mutual respect when it comes to the two classic game shows. 

The Price Is Right dig comes at a time when Jeopardy! has been in the headlines a lot for strange happenings on and off the air. Even before Ken Jennings was forced to play defense over accusations that he made two major on-camera mistakes, a recent champion went on an epic rant against the quiz show, prompting super-champ James Holzhauer to call for a lifetime ban.

It’s really hard to be “the guy AFTER the guy.” Take a look at late-night legend Johnny Carson, still one of the best late-night talk show hosts to ever do it. After he left The Tonight Show, there was a transition to Jay Leno that took time for people to adjust. And forget about the debacle that happened when Leno said he was leaving… only to return to the show, and slight Conan O’Brien in the process. Mess. The same can happen on daytime television game shows, which often get comfortable with the same host, and struggle to survive after a host has moved on. Bob Barker owned The Price is Right. He held that skinny microphone for 35 years, finally retiring from the program in 2007. And now Barker’s replacement, comedian Drew Carey, reveals the advice that Barker gave him before stepping into the gig. 

Drew Carey officially took over hosting duties on The Price is Right in August 2007, and has crafted his own role on the program. Which is essentially what previous host Bob Barker told him to do, if he had any chance at succeeding. Speaking with People after holding on to the gig for several years, Carey revealed the advice he received from Barker. It seems to have worked. Carey said:

Which is probably a lot harder to do than it sounds. Because so many of Bob Barker’s The Price is Right mannerisms and slogans were baked into the childhoods of generations of audience members, and wanting to do what he does feels like it’d be easy to slip back into. Here’s a funny story. My wife and I went to a taping of The Price is Right on our honeymoon. During a commercial break, Bob Barker asked everyone who was 30 and younger to raise their hands. Roughly 85% of us did so, to which Barker told us, “You people have never known a life without The Price is Right!” And we all roared in approval. Barker could work a crowd. And man, did he live an exciting life. 

Drew Carey had his own level of fame when he took over The Price is Right. He was a successful comedian who had made the leap over to sitcom stardom, and also spent years hosting the popular improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? Carey certainly didn’t need The Price is Right, but it has been a match made in Hollywood so far. Carey recently claimed, rightfully so, that the game show could last another 100 years because it enjoys such an adaptable format. And whomever the next host of The Price is Right ends up being – unless Carey is a cyborg – will benefit from the roads that were blazed by both Carey and Barker. And they likely would tell this person to morph with the show, make it their own, and keep The Price is Right fresh for generations. 

Just remember, if your name gets called, and you run up on the stage, call Drew Carey by his right name. Or you might never live the mistake down.

The Price Is Right is one of the most iconic game shows in television history, and is still going strong in 2022. The show celebrated its 50th anniversary this year with special episodes as well as the “Come On Down Tour!” that took the show on the road for fans to get to play in their hometowns, with announcer George Gray on hand to make it official. Gray spoke with CinemaBlend about fans’ excitement and techniques for spinning the Wheel for the tour, and also revealed his own “trick” for what happens when he tells contestants to “Come on down!” during episode production. 

George Gray spoke with CinemaBlend during the “Come On Down Tour!” stop in Cleveland, Ohio in May. As a fan of the show, I asked something that I’ve always wondered: does he have a trick for pronouncing the contestants’ names correctly when telling them to come on down and play the game? Gray shared what happens on set that viewers don't see in the episodes that air on CBS: 

As it turns out, George Gray isn’t given the exact pronunciations of contestants’ names before he announces who gets to “Come on down!” in each episode, so he has to make his best guess. And according to the announcer, his best guess somehow “always” turns out to be wrong! 

Contestants are always all smiles when they run down to take the stage and try their best to impress host Drew Carey (who has made a bold prediction about the show’s future), so the whole Price Is Right experience is clearly a lot of fun. Gray also shared that the show does go the extra mile to make sure that the right contestants know when it’s their time to try their hand at the competition, saying:

So, no matter how George Gray pronounces the name, the show makes sure that contestants know when they have their turn to possibly win fabulous prizes. Whether or not they do leave with a brand new car to their name, or thousands more dollars than they came in with, or any of the other fun rewards, they get the souvenir of their name cards! All things considered, it’s easy to understand why The Price Is Right has managed to keep going for half a century, endure beyond the COVID production challenges, and hold on to personalities like George Gray and Drew Carey for so long. 

In fact, The Price Is Right has even expanded to primetime. While episodes still air daily on CBS, the network has occasionally aired special presentations during primetime to give the show an even larger platform, and people who can’t watch on weekday mornings the chance to watch and even play along from home. The Price Is Right hits a major milestone this year with its 50th anniversary, which is an accomplishment that not too many TV shows are ever able to reach. CBS and the game show have been celebrating the anniversary ever since Season 50 premiered back in September, and that celebration has spread nationwide with The Price Is Right’s “Come On Down Tour!” The latest stop on the tour was in Cleveland, Ohio, and announcer George Gray spoke with CinemaBlend about the show and the tour, including tricks for spinning the iconic Big Wheel. 

It was a rainy day in Cleveland when the “Come On Down Tour!” came into town on May 6, but that didn’t stop fans from lining up before the event even started to take their chance to play some Price Is Right games. When I spoke with George Gray shortly before the event kicked off, he shared how working on the tour – which has made stops all across the country, starting in Los Angeles and ending in New York in just a couple of weeks – compares to working on episodes of the show in the studio:

The Price Is Right has been going strong for half a century, and anybody who has ever watched an episode can vouch for how excited fans in the studio audience are whenever George Gray invites them to “Come on down!” and play some games with Drew Carey – who took over hosting duties from Bob Barker after Barker retired back in 2007 – to win some prizes. The tour brings some of those games to the fans who may never have the chance to attend a taping, and what better way to celebrate 50 years?

There may be no more iconic image from The Price Is Right than the sight of the Big Wheel, just waiting to be spun and determine which lucky contestants will get the closest to $1 and advance to the Showcase Showdown. Players are always excited to get to spin the Wheel, but is there a trick to coming out on top of the other contestants? George Gray, who has been announcing on the show for going on twelve years now, weighed in on whether he has any tips or techniques for spinners:

There’s no surefire way for anybody to guarantee a $1 spin, but being incredibly tall with a lot of upper body strength isn’t the only way to win! It’s also not guaranteed that kissing the Wheel does any good, but we all have our methods of hoping for good luck, and crossing your fingers may not be the best approach if you want to get a good grip.

Since George Gray started on The Price Is Right back in November 2010 before being announced as permanent announcer alongside host Drew Carey (who recently shared a bold prediction for the show’s future) in 2011, he has certainly seen his fair share of spins. The series finished filming Season 50 back in April. Looking back, the announced shared what stands out to him about being part of the milestone year: 

“Super neat” is certainly an accurate way to sum up what the fans were feeling while waiting for the “Come On Down Tour!” to start in Cleveland on May 6 even despite the rain, as just the latest stop in the Price Is Right tour across the country. Although Drew Carey wasn’t able to return to his hometown of Cleveland for the event, George Gray had that opportunity himself when the tour stopped in St. Louis, Missouri. He shared what that experience was like for him:

There are some game shows that just stand the test of time. Wheel of Fortune has caused people to yell at their TV screens (and contestants for their terrible guesses) since 1975, while general trivia knowledge has never been more exciting than on Jeopardy!, which has graced the airwaves since 1964. So how much longer will it be before the Big Wheel spins off into the sunset? As far as host Drew Carey is concerned, he doesn’t think it’ll be anytime soon.

The version of The Price Is Right that we know today premiered in 1972 and has been a CBS staple for the last 50 years, but even before that, a version of the game aired from 1956 to 1965. While accepting an award at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show, Drew Carey discussed the series' future, and he predicted the game show will have a longer shelf life than just about anything on the show that contestants are asked to guess the price of. He said, per Deadline: 

The host’s bold prediction actually makes sense. The Price Is Right might just be around for another century, because price-guessing is such a deceptively simple  — and kind of ingenious — concept. While the players’ job boils down to playing games to determine the value of everyday items, such as kitchen appliances, furniture sets, or A NEW CAR!, it’s the boisterous atmosphere that attracts and keeps its audience. Not to mention vicarious living through the contestants.

The flashing lights, loud music and screaming audience members make for some pretty exciting TV viewing --- take, for example, the man who broke the Plinko record. That characteristic sets it apart from other long-running game shows that feature less frantic interactions and more structured formats. Can you imagine if Wheel of Fortune’s audience was encouraged to try to help the contestants on stage? Or Jeopardy! contestants were introduced while they ran, hollering and jumping, onto the stage?

While it’s probably not required for longevity, having moments that go viral online certainly doesn’t hurt a show, and the players’ enthusiasm has resulted in plenty of rewatchable moments. Just recently a contestant found herself in a painfully relatable situation when she couldn’t figure out how to get off-stage. While that was certainly embarrassing, it was much less dramatic than the man who fell flat on his face after losing at the Big Wheel. Who wouldn't watch more of that for another 50 years, presumably while home sick from school or work?

Drew Carey has been bringing that big wheel energy to The Price Is Right since 2007, and he said he’s humble to be a part of such an institution. He got the job when the iconic Bob Barker retired after hosting the show for the previous 35 years. In 2019, Carey has even led the game show into primetime with The Price Is Right at Night, where in addition to the typical gameplay, a celebrity is often featured playing for charity. 

The Price Is Right, which continues to unintentionally fool people into thinking SNL vet Adam Sandler is on the production team, is certainly not going anywhere anytime soon, regardless of whether or not it survives into the 22nd century. For a lot of people out there, appearing on a daytime game show with the possibility of taking home some spending money is a nice and feasibly attainable dream, considering how many game shows are out there airing on a daily basis. Of course, more game show contestants overall means more opportunities for such hopefuls to suffer cringe-heavy experiences in full view of millions of viewers at home, on top of everyone in the studio audience. And while such embarrassment often comes in the form of a brazenly wrong guess (or even two of them) on Wheel of Fortune or telling an awful anecdote on Jeopardy!, sometimes it just involves the act of walking from one place to the other, as one Price Is Right contestant learned the hard way. 

In a moment that has since gone viral for all the relatably shame-worthy reasons, one Price Is Right hopeful followed up her Showcase Showdown efforts by failing to leave the stage in an orderly and timely fashion. Which is probably the nicest way to word what happens in the below clip from TikTok. Check it out!

This poor, poor, poor woman. A “wait, where’s the exit?” faux pas usually lasts for a brief moment, akin to the “go right or left” dance that happens on sidewalks and in store aisles. But even edited for TV, this moment drags on for a whopping 20 confusion-laced seconds. And you KNOW that it had to feel like 20 separate eternities for the contestant as she failed to properly navigate her way around the iconic game show stage set. 

And while it may sound like I’m being somewhat judgmental, please know that I share in the notion that many of the commenters had, in that this awks-as-bawls moment feels like the entirety of life encapsulated. I don’t know that I would have explicitly used “losing the ability to leave a game show” as the most apt comparison for life’s most humility-crushing foibles, but every day is a learning experience. 

Let’s just break things down moment by moment, because what’s more fun that surgically inspecting someone else’s horror?

• Mistake #1: Not watching where other contestants went after their Big Wheel spins, either during that particular taping or at any point in The Price Is Right's 50-year-history.
• Mistake #2: Looking at the giant blue dollar sign set decoration and, despite presumably understanding deep down that it was made of solid, non-permeable materials, continuing to walk toward it as if it would suddenly reveal itself to actually be a hallway.
• Mistake #3: Staring outward to the wide open area of the stage and, after appearing to take a suggestion from someone off-camera, choosing not to walk in that direction, but rather back towards all the giant solid parts of the set that have still not magically taken on the form of dissipating fog.
• Mistake #4: Taking a shot to see if there was a super-secret exit in the already visible area behind the giant dollar sign.
• Mistake #5: Temporarily giving up and standing there like a deer caught cheating on a math test.
• Mistake #6: Continuing to believe that maybe, just maybe, walking back toward walls and other non-moving parts of the set will provide anything beyond more frustration. 

Thankfully, the contestant was able to take her leave without further incident, and seemingly without the entire production having to shut down in order for a producer to make the “come over here” motion with his index finger. Her body language hilariously transformed into something more dejected and Charlie Brown-like, on the polar opposite side of things from Price Is Right’s most celebratory contestants. I certainly hope things only got better for her once she was out of the camera’s view, and that she didn’t have to get through any corn mazes before vacating the studio.

Host Drew Carey, who recently shared a heartwarming story about his late friend and TV icon Bob Saget, was either completely oblivious to the matter, or he was being told in his earpiece not to put any focus on the wandering nomad to his left. The world lost a comedy great earlier in January with the death of Bob Saget, who passed away at the age of 65. Friends and fellow celebrities have since spoken out to pay tribute to him and grieve the loss, ranging from those who famously worked with him on Full House to those who knew him for his comedy to those who simply wanted to honor a man who generated so many laughs. Now, stand-up comic, sitcom star, and Price Is Right host Drew Carey shared a fun story about Bob Saget’s kindness, and why he missed an episode of The Tonight Show.

Drew Carey spoke about meeting Bob Saget in the beginning of his career, before becoming host of The Price Is Right. Speaking with ET, he shared:

Drew Carey’s earliest credit for The Tonight Show is dated to 1991, when Johnny Carson was still host before the main duties were taken over by Jay Leno in 1992. Full House ran from 1987 - 1995, so evidently Carey’s fans now could have seen him make his Tonight Show debut as a guest comic even earlier if Bob Saget hadn’t given him an opportunity that he couldn’t pass up. The support of Saget clearly meant a lot to Carey as his career progressed, and there’s no denying that he became a comedy great in his own right, including a number of later Tonight Show appearances.

Not many people can probably trace their earliest roots to Bob Saget all the way back to a local comedy club in Northeast Ohio, and Drew Carey was evidently lucky enough to do so before making it on a bigger stage, starring in The Drew Carey Show from 1995-2004, and landing hosting gigs like Whose Line Is It Anyway and The Price Is Right (including The Price Is Right at Night). Despite all of his success on the small screen, Carey still has fond memories of his early impressions of Saget. He went on to say of Saget as a stand-up comic:

Drew Carey is far from the only big name in comedy to sing praises of Bob Saget following his death, including Adam Sandler and SNL’s Pete Davidson. Members of his Full House family had messages as well, with the Olsen twins releasing a rare public statement in honor of their former on-screen dad, and Jodie Sweetin shared a “vow” for his funeral. He made an impression on fellow comedians, celebrities, and fans alike, and he won’t be forgotten.

Many people across the internet have given their opinion on former Jeopardy! host Mike Richards' firing from the iconic game show. Though few people have offered Richards any advice on what he should do next. While the former executive producer has seemingly disappeared from the public eye, there's still something to consider -- will he be welcomed back with open arms or kept away from game shows forever? Having worked with Richards before, The Price is Right's Drew Carey offered his thoughts on whether the former host could possibly make a comeback.

Drew Carey and Mike Richards worked together on The Price is Right for over a decade, so Carey knows the producer quite well. When asked for his thoughts on what lies ahead for Richards, he stated his belief that a return is possible for Richards. However, he also says that it might not come right away:

Given how upbeat Drew Carey typically is, his perspective makes sense, and there's a chance  the advice could actually work for Richards. Because they'e worked so closely together, The Price is Right host would want to give Mike Richards the benefit of the doubt. And of course, the host would seemingly know a different side to Richards that viewers may not be privy to. But unlike Carey, not everyone has glowing thoughts their experiences with the former Jeopardy! host. And while speaking with Daily Blast Live, even the host pointed out that he could not defend Richards’ past words or actions. 

The Mike Richards situation has had its effects on quite a few people. Current Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik finally said her piece on his abrupt departure from the show in an essay. The Big Bang Theory alum walked a delicate line of neutrality while addressing Richards’ controversial past. In her writing, Bialik showed particular concern about the trivia show’s future after Richards’ firing. The actress and TV personality is certainly in an interesting position though, based on her essay, it only seems to be motivating her to work harder at making the show the best it can be.

What lies ahead for Mike Richards following this situation remains to be seen. In terms of Jeopardy!, fans will likely be tuning in to see how Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings handle their hosting duties, until a permanent replacement is found.

Jeopardy! has been making headlines for the past year, as the iconic game show has been on the hunt for a new permanent host. But more recently, the buzz has been related to Mike Richards, who was tapped to succeed the late, great Alex Trebek over a week ago. However, he resigned from the position after some past offensive comments and a lawsuit resurfaced. While Richards spent this year vying for the Jeopardy! hosting gig, some may not know that he was previously in contention to host The Price is Right after Bob Barker’s retirement. And as it so happens, there’s footage of his failed hosting audition for that show.

As with Jeopardy!, Mike Richards previously served as an executive producer on The Price is Right and held the position for 11 years. This arguably put him in a prime position to become the next host of the fan-favorite game show. We can’t say for sure why the producers chose not to hire him for the job, but you can still get a feel for his hosting style by watching his audition episode for yourself. At first glance, Mike Richards just doesn’t seem to have the spark needed to host the show, which almost always includes enthusiastic contestants and a lively studio audience. Sure, he’s doing everything right and hitting his cues, but there just seems to be something missing. It should be said, though, that he was looking to fill the shoes of the legendary Bob Barker, and following up his work would be a tall order for most people. Still, Drew Carey, who was ultimately hired for the job, has been able to put his own signature spin on the gig.

Mike Richards’ tenure with The Price is Right was not without its share of controversy. He became connected to discrimination lawsuits involving some of the models on the show. In one of the most high-profile situations, Brandi Cochran filed a wrongful termination suit that involved Richards. Cochran claimed she was discriminated against when she was fired from the show after becoming pregnant with twins. She also alleged that Richards made disparaging remarks about pregnant women. While Cochran would eventually win the suit, it was later settled on appeal.

In light of the resurfaced situation, Mike Richards released a statement in which he seemed to dispute the alleged comments. But he later apologized for offensive comments relating to race, women’s bodies and other comments, which were made on his now-defunct podcast. Though these allegations would cause Richards to lose out on the Jeopardy! hosting job, he will still remain with the show as executive producer, and the few episodes he did film as host will still air as part of Season 38.

His decision to step down as host was met with a slew of reactions from people across the web. Celebrities like Ryan Reynolds and Yvette Nicole Brown were among those to weigh in, and many also used the opportunity to show support for LeVar Burton, who many believe should take the job. Burton also reacted to Richards’ decision, though the veteran actor and academic took the high road with his response.

Jeopardy! currently has Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik on tap to host primetime specials and spinoffs for the program. One would think that the producers are aiming to have the new permanent host set sooner rather than later. There’s no telling who may get the job this time around but, with the momentum still surrounding LeVar Burton, he still has a legitimate chance of earning it.

Jeopardy! Season 38 is set to begin on September 13.

There are only a handful of people that are certified, bonafide, put-a-stamp-on-it pop culture institutions. In the world of game shows, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, who died in late 2020 from pancreatic cancer, was one of them. Yet another is former The Price Is Right host Bob Barker. He handed the baton to Drew Carey back in 2007, but Barker still has love for the show he hosted for 35 incredible years.

The 50th season of The Price Is Right, in all its gambling on soup can goodness, is right around the corner. And to talk about it without Bob Barker would be a disservice. Ahead of the game show’s monumental season, here's what the 97-year-old told People about being its host for over three decades:

As old-head The Price Is Right fans will remember, Bob Barker would sign off the show for decades by reminding everyone to “help control the pet population.” But that's not all he's remembered for. For a lot of people, including myself, he embodies the heart and soul of traditional game show form. He is beloved for it – as well as that cameo in Happy Gilmore, during which he punched Adam Sandler in the face. (Sandler himself famously appeared on The Price Is Right to promote the film, and even gets mistaken for being a director on the show nowadays.)

Even prior to his The Price Is Right hosting fame, Bob Barker has had a prolific life and career. He officially became a pilot for U.S. Navy just a hair before the Japanese surrendered in World War II. After that, Barker went on to have his own radio show for most of the 1950s. Eventually, he entered the game show hosting arena, where he led Truth or Consequences into its own success for nearly twenty years. When you add in The Price Is Right for another 35 years, you can truly understand how Barker is the institution he is today. And there's no one even close to being in his league.

Ever since Bob Barker's exit as host 14 years ago, Drew Carey has been decidedly making The Price Is Right his own. There’s still the same old fun, marked subtly now by Carey’s signature deadpan humor. It hasn't always been an easy road for him, though, especially after the murder of his ex-fiancée occurring in the midst the show's taping in early 2020. Especially, too, after the show having to implement several changes later on due to quarantine restrictions. Yet Carey has endured in the role as does the fan-favorite game show.

The new season of The Price Is Right, which arrives 49 years after Bob Barker catapulted it to notoriety, returns on Sept. 15 on CBS. Let's hope that surgical residents playing the game using actual body parts won't become some kind of new, quirky segment on the iconic show.

If you have HBO Max or were able to make it to one of the few theaters open right now, chances are you’ve watched the recently-released Wonder Woman 1984. If you can remember the beginning of the two and a half hour-long film, which gives us a look into Diana’s Amazonian background, you may recall seeing a familiar face. One of the beautiful and athletic Amazon women who raised Wonder Woman could also be seen every weekday morning as a model on CBS’s The Price is Right.

Gwendolyn Osborne, a model, actress and now it would seem stuntwoman, was seen with Drew Carey pretty much every morning giving away money and cars on The Price is Right. There have always been models on the show, but they have taken on a little bit of a new role since Drew Carey has become host of the long-running game show. Osborne told Yahoo that Carey has been a source of new life on the set and instituted a new standard of woman empowerment for the show that had not been seen before. Here's what Osborne had to say about how that paved the way for her to join Wonder Woman 1984:

Gwendolyn Osborne was the first model on The Price is Right to be shown pregnant and to be able to retain her job after giving birth. In fact, all models on the show have become pregnant while on the show since Drew Carey has become the host, and Osborne believes he's the person to thank for that possibility.

The models have been made a personality staple to the show, rather than simply eye candy. They have been humanized, and Drew Carey (or whoever really is responsible for the apparent changes in the show’s rulebook) has made the statement that the models are worth holding on to as individuals. Gwendolyn Osborne left The Price is Right in 2017, having spent 12 years total on the show.

It would seem that the girl power attitude has leaked over into other opportunities for Gwendolyn Osborne in a big way. Being in the opening scenes in one of the biggest theatrical releases of the year has generated a good amount of buzz for Osborne, and the role of an Amazonian in Wonder Woman 1984 puts her in a position to portray more bold and beautiful roles in the future.

If you've been watching The Price Is Right and the most recent edition of The Price Is Right At Night, you may have noticed an interesting name in the show's end credits. It certainly was a surprise to me watching the contestants celebrate as the end credits rolled listing the producers of the show and the name of a well-known comedian scrolled across the screen. Adam Sandler is listed as an executive producer and director of the series, but is he the same actor, comedian, and occasionally dramatic actor we all know and love?

While it is true that comedian Adam Sandler does have a history with former The Price Is Right host Bob Barker, that's not actually him in those credits. It's actually a completely different Adam Sandler, who has been directing episodes of the beloved CBS series since 2012. Yes, he's been around for quite a while, and people throughout the years have popped on the internet to ask if the Price Is Right Adam Sandler is also movie star Adam Sandler.

The actor Adam Sandler has a connection with the show thanks to Bob Barker's famous cameo in Happy Gilmore. The part people may not know is that Adam Sandler (again, the actor) appeared on The Price Is Right in real life back in 1996 to promote the movie's release. As far as what Sandler did on the program, he helped host a showcase but unfortunately didn't get to play.

To take things even further, Adam Sandler played a woman in the movie Jack and Jill who played The Price Is Right when Drew Carey was the host. Carey, of course, played himself and stood by helplessly as Sandler's character knocked herself out while spinning the big wheel. It's unclear whether or not Adam Sandler (the game show director) directed that specific part of the movie, but that would be super meta if so.

Just to put a little shine on The Price Is Right's Adam Sandler, it's worth mentioning that he's been with the game show for a long time before getting a director and executive producer credit. Sandler's earliest listed credit on his IMDB is for an episode back in 1995, in which he was credited as a stage manager. That said, his credits aren't too consistent until the 2010s, but his time on the show predates actor Adam Sandler's appearance in 1996. Is it possible these two have met? I wasn't able to find any answers on the internet, but I can say I'm dying to find out.

The Price is Right will be the latest game show to return to television after abruptly stopping production in the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune earlier this year, The Price is Right will return with some changes to protect the people involved with the show. Host Drew Carey shared his thoughts on the changes coming to the new episodes, ranging from production to his facial hair.

The most obvious change for new episodes of The Price is Right is that the studio, which is usually jam-packed with fans trying to get noticed for the chance to win some prizes, won’t have an audience, but there will be more subtle differences as well. Drew Carey spoke with CBS This Morning about the return of The Price is Right, and he commented on his new pandemic facial hair:

Drew Carey is back in front of the cameras of The Price is Right with a full beard and no tie! The lack of a tie probably won’t leave too many longtime fans in shock, but the beard is definitely a new look for the host. Considering how many TV personalities returned to the airwaves with quarantine haircuts (including The Masked Singer’s Robin Thicke), I’d say that Carey looks pretty snazzy on the whole.

Of course, one of the iconic elements of The Price is Right is announcer George Gray saying “Come on down!” to contestants in the audience, and that obviously can’t happen without an actual studio audience. The good news for longtime fans is that the show found a way to keep the line in. Drew Carey explained:

The reactions from the contestants will still be part of The Price is Right; they just won’t be running down from the audience to start the game. The absence of an audience also isn’t the only practical change coming to the show in its return.

Social distancing will be in place, and crew members will wear masks and work in zones. Cleaning and testing will happen regularly, including the wheel being sanitized between spins. Also, physical contact between Drew Carey and the players is off-limits. Drew Carey, who has been nearly pulled off the stage by a fan in the past, shared:

Contestants will just have to vent their excitement in ways that don’t involve physical contact with Drew Carey! The Price is Right is returning in grand fashion, with a series of three upcoming primetime specials. The first airs on Tuesday, October 27 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

TV shows have had to make significant changes to adapt to COVID-19, with the new measures aimed at ensuring the well-being of casts and crews. Game shows have a particularly difficult challenge due to the inclusion of contestants as well as a live audience. CBS’ The Price is Right has been out of production for months, like so many other shows, but it’s finally getting back to filming, with some alterations of its own.

The Price is Right returned to the studio this week to restart shooting, though the show will now be without a live audience, which will be a first in the nearly 50 years it’s been on the air. Deadline also reports that the show’s set at Television City in LA has been redesigned to be more COVID-friendly.

The rebuilt set includes decking, which now sits in the area that the audience used to occupy. In addition, contestants on Bidder’s Row will now be spaced six feet apart. New protocols will also include regular testing and production zones and, as you would expect, masks and shields will be used as well.

While all of these changes represent a major shift for the veteran series, the lack of an audience could be the biggest adjustment but, as showrunner Evelyn Warfel tells the trade, it was the best way to maintain safety on the Drew Carey-hosted program:

Unfortunately, The Price is Right is unable to utilize a virtual audience since that would allow people to look up prices with the help of the internet. Warfel does believe, though, that any disappoint that viewers have about this will be soothed by the fact that all of the show’s signature games are back:

It may honestly take a while for audiences to get used to seeing The Price is Right without an excited studio audience. Yet it’s clear that Evelyn Warfel and her team at CBS have put a lot of thought into moving the beloved show forward during these uncertain times.

We've been hearing about a lot of health crises lately, but because many of those are directly related to one thing, it can be easy to forget that lots of us are still dealing with whatever health issues were possible before The Inside Times began. The Price is Right announcer George Gray has had quite the scary time lately, as he's been fighting his way back from a serious "brush with death" that's resulted in multiple surgeries, but he is finally recovering.

Just last week, The Price is Right's George Gray found himself hospitalized after suffering a heart attack. The 53-year-old was rushed to the hospital after experiencing some chest pains, and after that first heart attack, he underwent surgery to put a stent in his heart, which should have opened up one of his arteries and helped restore blood flow. Unfortunately, that stent failed immediately after it was put in, and Gray had a second heart attack. After two more surgeries and a third heart attack, though, Gray is now finally recovering in Arizona. Here's what his representative, Phil Viardo, told Variety about the process:

After George Gray's second heart attack, doctors then had to go back in and insert another stent in his heart. He looked to be out of the woods for a time, and was even ready to take his first post-surgery walk around the facility, when his second stent also failed, and Gray had to be rushed into surgery again.

It was during this third surgery that Gray had his third massive heart attack, which originated at his left anterior descending artery. This is important, because that particular artery is nicknamed the "widow maker" because heart attacks that come from that area are usually fatal. Luckily for George Gray, he was already on the operating table and the doctors present were able to save his life. Now, after his traumatic experiences, he's finally been able to take a breath and focus on getting better.

According to Viardo, he's actually in pretty good spirits right now, which seems like a minor miracle, considering everything that he's been through in such a short amount of time. Gray, who began announcing for The Price is Right in 2011 after hosting gigs on $25 Million Hoax and the American version of The Weakest Link, thinks that genetics caused his heart attacks, because he's in good shape, hasn't smoked or done drugs and has low cholesterol.

Viardo adds that George Gray wants his case to serve as a reminder that heart health needs to be paid attention to, no matter your age, and noted that he sent thanks to his friends and many fans for their support during this difficult time. Hopefully, Gray will be able to continue his recovery, and we can look forward to him getting a clean bill of health soon.

Back in February, Dr. Amie Harwick, a popular therapist and former girlfriend/ fiancée of Price Is Right host Drew Carey, was found dead just outside of her Hollywood Hills residence. Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse was quickly arrested and charged with both murder and burglary. Carey was very shook up after the tragic incident happened and took a week off, but he apparently decided very quickly that he was going to forgive the alleged murderer.

The story came out earlier this week during Carey’s appearance on The Talk. The former sitcom star and popular game show host said he wished it never happened but that you have to forgive people who have mental issues and traumatic pasts. Here’s a portion of his quote…

Following Carey’s time off, the first episode he returned to was for Kids Week. During a break in the taping, he decided to address the teenagers in attendance and let them know he’d forgiven the alleged murderer. No doubt people with different personalities will react differently to his decision not to hold on to his anger, but people need to move on in whatever way makes sense to them. Police arrived at Harwick’s residence back in February after fielding reports of a woman screaming. Her roommate said she was being assaulted inside the home they shared. Police later found her lying beneath a third story balcony with injuries consistent with a fall. She was pronounced dead later that day at a local hospital. She was only 38-years-old.

Carey and Harwick reportedly dated for around two years and were engaged for the last several months of their relationship. They called off the wedding but reportedly split on pretty good terms. After it ended, she reportedly started dating Pursehouse, though the relationship reportedly did not end well. She filed for a restraining order, though it had expired at the time of her murder.

Earlier this week, Pursehouse pled not guilty to the charges against him. He initially posted a two million dollar bail following his arrest back in February, but according to CBS, he was rearrested 4 days later and taken into custody, where he has remained since. At this point, it’s unclear what evidence the state has against Pursehouse, but given how quickly he was arrested and the witnesses who called 911, they must feel they have everything they need.

The Price Is Right is as much of a weekday morning staple as tall cups of coffee and heavy traffic. However, the hit ViacomCBS game show has temporarily hit pause on production for the week so that host Drew Carey can comfortably grieve following the death of his ex-fiancée Amie Harwick.

Though the game show usually tapes a week's run of episodes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at its Television City home in Los Angeles, The Price Is Right sent out emails to ticket-holders alerting them to the news that filming would be postponed for this week. On Saturday, February 15, Drew Carey and many others in Hollywood were shocked to learn of the death of the popular family and sex therapist Amie Harwick, familiar to those who watched the 2015 documentary Addicted to Sexting. Carey and Harwick dated and got engaged to get married back in January 2018. Alas, their engagement ended before the wedding vows could be shared, as the couple split up in November of that same year. It was an amicable break-up, though, and the two stayed friends up until the time of her death.

After the news broke about The Price Is Right's production being halted, Drew Carey issued this statement through TMZ:

Police were called to a Hollywood Hills residence on Saturday morning by Amie Harwick's roommate, who told them Harwick was being assaulted inside their home. The therapist was then found on the ground beneath her third-story balcony, suffering from injuries consistent with a fall.

Amie Harwick's ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse was arrested on Saturday afternoon and was charged with murder. Until very recently, Harwick had a restraining order against him, and had shared her fears with others that he might hurt her. Police say evidence within Harwick's home implied someone forced their way inside, and there were also signs of a struggle. They also viewed surveillance footage from the neighborhood for identification purposes.

After the news of Harwick's death went public, Drew Carey shared the below post in her memory.

Drew Carey recently serve as one of the contestants on another hit game show, The Masked Singer, performing as The Llama before he was eventually eliminated and unmasked.

For many people, CBS' The Price Is Right has long been as much of a morning TV staple as the news, soap operas and cartoons. From Bob Barker's run to the Drew Carey era, the financially minded game show has captured the attention spans of every kind of viewer out there. For all the success that The Price Is Right has experienced here in the U.S., however, the show doesn't have nearly the same global syndication reach as other shows such as Wheel of Fortune. But why?

Host Drew Carey answered that Price Is Right question you didn't even know you were curious about during a recent appearance on the always fascinating podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, which is clearly hosted by Bless This Mess star Dax Shepard. No, it's not because big wheels roll better here. According to Carey, the American version of the show has simply gotten too fancy with its prizes. In his words:

There you have it, people. We as Americans are simply too opulent with our game show prizes, to the point where countries around the world have had to balk at crafting localized version of The Price Is Right. Not the most humble or humanitarian reason, to be sure, but I suppose there's still some pride to be had in this country's dedication to giving cars away on TV.

As longtime fans are well aware, The Price Is Right has always been loyal to some of its brands, and it's been a common enough occurrence for a pallet of Rice-a-Roni boxes to serve as a prize. (Getting a year's supply of any product on a game show has always fascinated me.) But as the years have gone by, many of the simpler prizes and collections have been usurped by much pricier options.

Plus, The Price Is Right has introduced primetime specials into its regular lineup, and you know going primetime means the prizes need to be that much more impressive and extravagant. Which, in turn, makes it that much harder for another country to fund their own take on The Price Is Right. Currently, the reported list of countries with their own versions of the game show includes Argentina, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Portugal, and Lebanon. (I wonder if it's easier to pay for trips to European and Asian countries when your show is actually based there.)

Drew Carey had a lot of fun stories to tell and insights to dish out during his Armchair Expert appearance. He talked about the Price Is Right contestant whose bids all included "420" in them, because weed jokes. As well, he revealed the problem with trying to play Let's Make a Deal in Las Vegas. It turns out literally everyone takes the guaranteed $40 without caring about what's behind any numbered doors, since guaranteed money means gambling.

ABC has had some great success recently with its airing of Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time tournament, and now, CBS is looking to do the same. The network is looking to bring its own iconic game show series The Price Is Right to primetime, and giving audiences a chance to feel the magic of watching one of the best daytime television shows of all time during peak television hours this spring.

CBS will air three celebrity-themed specials of The Price Is Right in the spring, According to a press release from the network, the specials will feature a number of celebrities who will come play on the show for charity. It sounds like a solid premise, but could this be as much of a draw as what Jeopardy! has done bringing together three of its greatest champions?

If last year is any indication, then CBS has a solid shot of getting some solid viewership from these specials. The Price Is Right ran two primetime specials around Christmas 2019, one with the cast of SWAT and the other with actor Seth Rogen. Both specials did well for CBS, with the SWAT-themed episode being the "most-watched entertainment program" of its night, and the Rogen episode winning the night as top broadcast in viewership and all key demographics.

CBS has not announced what show's cast or which celebrities will be participating, but obviously, there's plenty of options to choose from. Audiences could see the cast of any of the NCIS shows, or maybe even a series that isn't on CBS anymore. Imagine if CBS was somehow able to get the cast of The Big Bang Theory or some former Survivor contestants for a night of fun with Drew Carey?

The Price Is Right did its most recent primetime specials before Jeopardy!, but it's possible CBS was struck with inspiration to do some more specials after seeing the success ABC has had putting Alex Trebek on night side. Jeopardy!'s GOAT tournament has been pulling in nightly viewership akin to major sporting events, so obviously ABC is wanting to bring James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings, and Brad Rutter back for another series of games.

If The Price Is Right ends up winning big in the ratings, one can only imagine how this may change television in primetime. Will Wheel Of Fortune and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? end up getting nightly specials? Hell, at this rate it wouldn't be all that surprising to learn The Newlywed Game is making a comeback. As long as these shows keep delivering and audiences are tuning in, expect to see more and more game shows getting primetime specials.

The Price Is Right contestants seem to be getting worse at their jobs, according to a new study. Yes, there's a new study on it -- a dude at Harvard pored through five decades of data, which sounds like a job that could've been outsourced to everyone who's ever taken a sick day.

In a study titled Inattention and Prices Over Time: Experimental Evidence from 'The Price Is Right' (1972-2019), and posted to SSRN, Jonathan Hartley of Harvard University found that the price is now wrong more often than it's right.

The study look at around 120,000 bids from The Price Is Right's One Bid contestants' row game from 1972 to 2019. It was found that contestants have increasingly underestimated the true price of goods over time, suggesting to the author that people have become more inattentive to prices.

The paper showed, via Quartz, that Price Is Right guess accuracy dropped dramatically from the 1970s to the 2000s and then stabilized into the 2010s.

Apparently a guess in the 1970s was typically about 8% below the actual price, whereas now people are underestimating prices by more than 20%.

Why? To the author, there are a few reasons why people have gotten worse at guessing the true price of things. For one, people tend to pay close attention when inflation is high and unstable, as it was in the 1970s and 1980s. Online shopping was also cited, since prices have become similar across sellers and people might not be paying close attention to do price comparisons. Also, there are more products than ever. It's hard to keep track of everything.

Just anecdotally, I can confirm my own price guesses have gotten worse over the years. When I was a child in the 1980s, I thought I'd be great on The Price Is Right because I tended to guess well. Maybe I was paying close attention to what we bought at the store when my mom was out and about, or just closely reading that Sears catalog. Over the years, my guesses got much worse.

There's a part of me that also wonders if guesses are getting worse because The Price Is Right is getting more savvy. A few months ago, I watched the documentary film Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much on Netflix. It's still there now, if you want to check it out.

The 2017 documentary follows longtime Price Is Right superfan Ted Slauson, who did what it never occurred to me to do as a kid -- memorize the prices on the show and keep up with the models of items typically up for bid. Back in the '70s and '80s, he noticed they often showcased the same items repeatedly. He used his memorization skills to help himself on the show but also to help other contestants, including one man who had a suspiciously perfect Showcase bid in 2008.

After that, I do wonder if The Price Is Right varied its items to such an extent that guessing became more difficult.

See The Worst Bid In Price Is Right History

Anyway, the best strategy on contestants' row seems to be bidding one dollar over the previous highest bid. There was a story about one contestant that kept happening to in every round, and he finally found a good way around it.

Bob Barker has lived an incredible life and at age 95, he’s still going strong. In 2015, at age 91, he even made a surprise appearance on the show he hosted for 35 years, the legendary The Price Is Right. The Price Is Right is what Barker is most famous for, but his life outside of the game show is just as interesting and is as diverse as the number of pricing games they play on the show he hosted for years.

Bob Barker was born on December 12th, 1923 in a tiny town in southeast of Seattle in Washington state called Darrington, but he spent much of his early life living on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota where his mother was a school teacher. When Barker was nine, his mother remarried after his father was killed in a work-related accident and the family moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he attended high school and later college at Drury College. After university, he joined the military as a pilot.

Military Career

Bob Barker enlisted in the Navy as a commissioned officer in 1942, but remained at Drury College (at the Navy’s request) to finish his education. He reported for active duty in June of 1943 after finishing school and he immediately began training to be a Naval aviator. He would spend the next 18 months flying a variety of aircrafts all over the country.

After months of training, Bob Barker was ready to deploy in the summer of 1945, just in time for the Japanese to surrender and the war to come to an end without Barker ever seeing action. He was a star on the basketball team at his flight school in Georgia during his training though!

Early Career

After the war, Bob Barker and his wife Dorothy Jo Gideon were living in Florida and Barker was working as a newsreader on the radio when he decided that if he was going to make a career in broadcasting, he needed to do what so many other Americans were doing in those post-war years, move west to California.

Barker and Gideon left Florida in 1950 for the Golden State and he quickly landed a job hosting a radio show in Los Angeles, The Bob Barker Show, which he hosted for six years. It was while he was hosting this show that he came to the attention of legendary game show producer Ralph Edwards, who loved the way Barker interacted with guests on the show.

Edwards was the producer of Truth Or Consequences and was looking for a new host. He thought Bob Barker would be the perfect for the job because of his quick wit and ability to think fast on his feet. Ralph Edwards' instincts were dead-on and Bob Barker became a huge hit.

Throughout the late '50s and '60s, Barker would also host a number a short-lived game shows while hosting Truth Or Consequences. Those shows included End Of The Rainbow and The Family Game, which was a family-oriented spin on The Newlywed Game, but none of those shows lasted more than a few episodes.

Truth or Consequences was a huge hit, however, and Bob Barker ended up hosting it for almost 20 years, until 1975, when he left to concentrate full time on his other big hit that had started in 1973, The Price Is Right.

The Price Is Right

In 1973, Goodson-Todman Productions, led my Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, were looking to relaunch a game show they had formerly had some success with in the ‘50s and early ‘60s called The Price Is Right. Their first move was to hire Bob Barker as the host. The show debuted on CBS on September 4th, 1972 as a half-hour morning game show and it was immediately a hit with viewers. In 1975, the show expanded to an hour. After having bounced around time slots for a couple years, it finally landed on what would become its regular slot from then on, 11 a.m. ET.

Bob Barker would host the show for 35 years and in the process become a huge part of television history. Those who grew up in the '70s, '80s, '90s or '00s all have fond memories of mornings at home with their faces in a big bowl of Frosted Flakes or Cinnamon Toast Crunch watching crazy people with big yellow name tags trying to guess the price of toasters, grandfather clocks, dish detergents, and of course… A NEW CAR!

Bob Barker, with his long, thin microphone was at the center of all, getting hugged and kissed by every overly-excited member of the audience who went on down and ended up onstage after guessing the closest bid to the retail price of an item without going over.

For Gen Xers, his hair started out as brown, but then, seemingly overnight, Bob Barker’s hair turned the most elegant shade of silver they’d ever seen and that full head of silver hair became one of his trademarks, along with that thin microphone and the endless stash of $100 bills he had in his suit pocket for contestants who bid the exact price of an item in the pricing game.

His most famous trademark, however, was how he signed off every show, starting in 1982: "Help control the pet population: have your pets spayed or neutered." This was also the most important part of the show for Bob Barker. He did it every show because he was and still is an adamant advocate for animal rights. When he left the show, he asked his replacement Drew Carey to continue the tradition and Carey has honored Barker's request, ending each show with the same line.

Animal Rights Activism

When Bob Barker’s wife died in 1981, he turned to animal rights activism to help him through the grief. He had always been an advocate, but it was in 1982 that he really ratcheted up his work and he became one of the preeminent activists in Hollywood, where it’s not exactly rare to advocate for animal rights.

In addition to his trademark sign-off, Barker has done a tremendous amount for animal rights, including resigning as the host of the Miss U.S.A. Pageant in 1988, a pageant he had hosted more than 20 years, because they refused to tell the pageant contestants to stop wearing fur.

He has also put his money where his mouth is, founding the DJ&T Foundation, named for his late wife and his late mother, to help pay for pets to be spayed and neutered. He’s also given millions to organizations like PAWS Animal Sanctuary and most famously to the controversial Sea Shepherd Organization, infamous for its aggressive approach toward environmental issues, especially that group's tactics against Japanese whaling ships, as documented by the show Whale Wars. The lead ship in the Sea Shepherd fleet is even named for Bob Barker.

Barker retired from The Price Is Right in 2006 to coincide with his 50th year as a television host. After the show made him wildly rich, he has spent the last 13 years using the money he made to help with awareness for the issue that is most important to him. At 95, he's still going strong in the community and we look forward to any more contributions he may make.

The Price is Right can be an intense game of mental fortitude and strategy, and you can look no further than recent contestant Fred for evidence of that. During successive One Bid rounds, Fred's guesses were met with smart, responsive bids by his fellow contestants, and each time, one of his fellow bidders ended up topping Fred's picks by a single dollar. It happened more than you'd think, and you can see the results for yourself in the video below.

Instead of letting this string of one dollar more bids get him down, Fred stayed strong. In his fourthly shown bid, Fred did not mimic the previous contestants by overshooting someone else by a dollar. Rather, he only bid $1, and his move paid off, as he defeated the trio next to him by not going over the item's retail price. Per the clip published on The Price is Right's Facebook page, fans can see that while Theresa's bid came within $61 of the item's retail price, she went over the correct amount, which is a cardinal no-no on this show.

After a hard-fought battle at the One Bid, Fred did what anyone in his situation would have done after repeatedly getting shafted. He enjoyed a little celebratory dance. The clip leaves us on that victorious note, and things only got better for Fred, too. He played Master Key and ended up winning a year's worth of laundry service, some designer accessories, and a new Mini Cooper. So what did we learn here? First of all, patience eventually pays off. And secondly, having a great attitude does, too. One other takeaway is that three times is not always the charm, as the old saying would have you believe. It is on Fred's fourth bid that he succeeds, and like him, we have to remind ourselves to keep smiling even when things look grim.

Imagine if Fred had let frustration get the better of him? He may not have stayed mentally clear enough to have evoked the proper strategy, and might have ended up trying to trying to climb inside the big wheel like a hamster. In this scenario, one can see how The Price is Right can teach lessons worth using in our day-to-day life, even when we're not bidding on household items. Perhaps this is why the game show remains so popular with viewers.

Even the clip itself is another decidedly genius play by The Price is Right. Everything about this montage is brilliant, from the content to the editing, which plays a crucial role here. The captions and reaction shots are perfectly put together, and the soundtrack only adds to the hilarious nature of the situation. Wow, was this the way to the start off the week or what? A contestant on The Price Is Right can lose in a lot of ways, but few get more heartbreaking than this. Luckily, this contestant knew exactly how to brighten the mood after he was eliminated from the competition following a miracle of a Big Wheel spin by his opponent. Whether intentional or not, this guy's falling on his face is the moment folks are talking about following his incredibly unlucky break:

Fernando had to be feeling pretty good after rolling that 95 on the big wheel, as only one number could've kept him out of the final showcase. Unfortunately, his opponent's spin landed on the 100 she needed to knock him out, which caused Fernando to drop to the floor in anguish in a melodramatic way. The hands popping up at the last minute to brace for impact seem to show the move was intentional, which makes his reaction to the loss all the better. Not many people would show such a silly display of sportsmanship upon losing.

Additionally, there just might not be many people quite like Fernando in general. The Price Is Right contestant was already destined to become a meme prior to his fall, as he had a wild celebration after winning the opening bid. Fernando, who has to have some sort of training in acrobatics or a Crossfit subscription of some kind, celebrated his win with a tuck and roll onto the main stage. He then promptly sprung up to do what looks to be an Elvis-inspired pose, which should've been enough for the show to break protocol and send him straight to the final round:

If only the Big Wheel cared about acrobatics as much as daytime game show producers, Fernando would've had a shot to win it all. Instead, he ended up losing to Lisa, who just so happened to be newsworthy for a completely different reason. The lucky spinner on The Price Is Right appears to have hit the lottery twice, as her son is none other than NBA guard for the LA Clippers Patrick Beverly. In total, Lisa ended up winning two cars, a trip to Madagascar, and $41,000! Whether all that is cooler than the internet fame Fernando got from his fall is debatable, considering her celebrity just ensured a lot of sports fans will see his moment again and again. Maybe this is the beginning of this guy doing physical comedy at NBA halftime shows this time next year?

One recent contestant's glee almost caused a complete catastrophe, though, and she came very close to flinging host Drew Carey right off the stage. You can't blame someone for getting that pumped up, right? I mean, The Price is Right is just about the best game show to go on to try and win quick cash without a whole lot of background knowledge needed. The real challenge, for some, is actually making it to the prize rounds without seriously injuring one's self and/or the show's host. In this clip, the jazzed-up-to-the-roof Sona got called up and managed to give Drew Carey a half-embrace while she was jumping up and down. It would have all been fine had that been the extent of it, but for a split-second, Sona drew her legs up as if Carey was meant to be carrying her across a threshold, and since the host was completely unaware that it was going to happen, he lost his footing. Carey not only came close to falling off the stage, but he could have seriously injured himself on that raised row of lights on the stage's edge. Those hard edges are less forgiving than a Plinko board.

Just imagine the cacophony if Sona would have known she was playing for a new car whenever she first got up there. She would have done cartwheels on his head! And it seems to me like announcer George Gray should have been very happy that he was off by himself (wherever game show announcers do their thing) rather than anywhere near contestant Sona whenever he told her to "Come on down" as a new contestant. She might have hopped on his back and tumbled with him down the stairs.

Unfortunately, Sona didn't get to win the car during that round, since her price-picking skills were not at all up to snuff. But she did walk away with $3,000 for her troubles, along with a spectacular story and video clip to tell her friends and family about. And at least Sona wasn't the person who tried to run up on stage after losing the One Bid round.

Out of every game show running on daytime television, there are few that surpass the magic of The Price Is Right. Over the decades that it has been on the air, the show has provided an ample amount of hilarious and heartwarming moments that have entertained everyone from the elderly to kids home sick from school. Today, everyone gets a laugh as a contestant is going viral for running on stage after mistakenly thinking she won the bid to go on, only to find out from host Drew Carey that wasn't the case. Take a look:

It's a moment that one usually only sees on television comedies or planned bits during award shows. Rarely does the world get to witness someone for real parading up on stage thinking they've won big despite everyone already knowing they've lost, and leave it to The Price Is Right to once again deliver an amazing moment. To his credit, Drew Carey saw it coming as soon as she moved, but unfortunately, he couldn't stop Molly from reaching the stage before having to deliver the bad news.

Sadly, Molly's trials didn't end there. As the rules go on The Price Is Right, once you get picked to go down for the bidding phase, you're then up there until you get picked or the show ends. Dave Lozo, who shared the moment with the world, said Molly's bidding did not improve from her initial failure and got even worse from there. Lozo states that Molly dropped two $1 bids following her false start, and it was remarkably clear she made the wrong decision both times.

What makes this clip even better is that Molly rushed the Price Is Right stage despite the fact that she was out of the running of winning for two different reasons. Beyond the fact that she was "over" (bids over the retail amount can't win), Kathy's bid of $600 is still much closer to the actual retail value of $629 than Molly's guess of $700. Perhaps Drew Carey pointed between the two of them and Molly assumed it was her time to shine? Either way, Molly's moment might be far more memorable than the actual winner's run on the Cyber Monday special of the show. Whether that's a good or bad thing solely rests on how Molly feels about the whole situation.
