Between taking a hiatus after her mom’s disappearance, an intruder showing up on Today, and Savannah Guthrie taking some time to be with her immediate family, she’s been on and off the air for several months now. Recently, we again learned she’s going to be heading away from the Daytime show, and this time it’s Jimmy Fallon who’s lured her away.

On Thursday, Guthrie was on air when she announced she will, once again, be taking a break from Today. If you happen to be watching the a.m. program and notice her absence, this is where she will be:

The Wordle thing has been looming in the background over the last couple of months. We knew Guthrie was on the series based on the popular NY Times game as early as June when Craig Melvin mentioned she’d be missing for a bit so she could take some “production meetings” for the upcoming game show.

The good news is that it sounds like Wordle will be filming in one large chunk for a 2027 TV schedule release. So, at least this won’t be a case where she’s off the air a couple of days, then back, then off again, then back and so on and so forth. Instead, she’s taking another hiatus and should be back in full after. Theoretically.

There had actually been insider chatter around the time Nancy Guthrie disappeared that Savannah might not decide to return to Today. In her absence, Craig Melvin and Hoda Kotb were doing pretty well together. With so much going on, it seemed like it might have been a good time to part ways, but ultimately, Guthrie chose to come back. Unfortunately, I feel like since she’s been back she’s had one foot out the door. It’s not a bad thing, but I would love a little more stability for the Today audience.

Which brings me to NBC, Jimmy Fallon and other opportunities for network names.

How Does Jimmy Fallon Factor Into All This?

Late night host Jimmy Fallon and Savannah Guthrie are both under overall contract at NBC. They are 30 Rock talent through and through, and both are in jobs that are steadily seeing advertising rates lower while costs swell. This loss in ad revenue is allegedly what took down The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and while the Jimmys have seen ratings improvements with CBS out of the game, it's unclear if late night will see more changes in the future.

One way Fallon has tried to stay in the game within the changing landscape is to increase his producing presence outside of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He’s been a producer for a long time, gifting us the Tom Holland and Zendaya Lip Sync Battle gift that keeps on giving. However, his more recent tries at bat have done less well.

His latest series On Brand with Jimmy Fallon was considered a flop, and was canceled after an erratic airing schedule. That’s My Jam only lasted a little longer. And the more successful Password still has aired off and on, as well. Those in the know allege the late night host needs a hit. Perhaps he’ll find it with Guthrie and Wordle.

Meanwhile, Today has allegedly been making plans in case Savannah Guthrie steps away, and if Wordle ultimately ends up breaking big on the Peacock network, she may just step into her Rob Lowe era.

The news cycle has been dominated over the last few months by the cancelation of The Late Show. It’s been off the air for several months now, and people are still discomfited about it. Apparently, that even extends to the late night hosts. Despite evidence that Stephen Colbert’s TV exit has been good news for the Jimmys in terms of ratings, reports indicate Jimmy Fallon is not in a comfortable place.

In fact, while The Tonight Show seems on relatively solid footing (for now), it hasn’t been the world’s best year for Jimmy Fallon. His other NBC series On Brand With Jimmy Fallon was a spectacular flop. Critics didn’t like it. Audiences didn’t really watch it. NBC aired it erratically on the 2026 TV schedule before canceling it. Now, an insider alleges it all ties together for the late night host.

Speaking with In Touch, the insider also spoke about Fallon’s commitment to the now-canceled TV show, noting the efforts it took to get the competition series on the air. Unlike other newer game shows, including The Floor or 99 to Beat, the concept didn’t basically work right out of the gate, and the whole thing is reportedly upsetting.

Of course, the panned On Brand did not land a 2026 Emmy nomination, and I doubt even the late night host was that surprised given the trajectory of the show in Season 1. To clarify, though, Fallon has pitched shows that worked well before. He’s the mastermind behind Lip Sync Battle, the formerly popular series that Tom Holland still constantly gets asked about years later. (The show ran through 2019 before becoming one of the casualties of 2020.) He’s also an actor and a stand-up comedian, so I’m not really worried he’ll find another avenue if and when The Tonight Show ends.

However, the insider alleges if he wants to move forward with producing content, his next series can’t end like On Brand.

There’s been a lot of talk about where late night TV is going as The Late Show was replaced with Unleashed with Byron Allen and an entirely new distribution model. Meanwhile, it's been Kimmel’s series, especially, that has picked up in the weeks since CBS took a step back. The Tonight Show remains a solid performer, but as we know late night revenue was reportedly down to $220 million in 2024 after being at $439 million in 2018. It paints an ugly picture about the future of late night, and if the insider is correct, it sounds like Jimmy Fallon is trying to set himself up for the future. I wouldn’t blame him.

There’s been a considerable amount of excitement since the New York Knicks won the 2026 NBA Finals and brought home their first championship title since 1973. Not only have fans been expressing their elation, but celebrity fans as well. Timothée Chalamet has been living it up, and Jennifer Lopez has been pumped as well. Given all this positive energy around the Big Apple, I’m sad The Late Show isn’t still on so Stephen Colbert can get in on the fun. But, in the late-night realm, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon have been holding it down with that.

Over a year ago, The Late Show was formally canceled by CBS, which cited financial reasons for pulling the plug on the series. The final episode aired on May 21, with Colbert officially signing off after 11 seasons. In hindsight, it's a somewhat cruel irony that the New York-based talk show would end shortly before the Knicks hoisted that Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. Considering Colbert’s own sports fandom and athletics-centric segments he’s had, I think he very well would’ve found a way to hype up the Knicks’ win.

I truly wish Colbert would’ve had the opportunity to honor the beloved Knickerbockers in his own unique way, but there’s definitely a silver lining in that his peers haven’t dropped the ball (no pun intended). Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon hyped up the Knicks throughout their playoff run and even attended games. Before the team’s series with the San Antonio Spurs ended, the topic even prompted Fallon to make some Trump jokes. More recently, though, Fallon welcomed the entire team to the show, and it was fantastic:

Seeing so many audience members sporting Knicks gear is great, but the icing on the cake is the presence of filmmaker Spike Lee, a New York native who’s long rooted for the NBA team. Fallon and co. choosing to invite the whole team and coach Mike Brown instead of just a handful of players is also particularly admirable. Even as a Boston Celtics fan, I can more than admit these guys all deserve their time in the sun, and they’ve certainly been getting it.

With that thought in mind, Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s titular host celebrated the Knicks’ victory and poked fun at some of the chaos that ensued in N.Y. after it happened. Kimmel, who lived in Brooklyn as a kid, shared footage of people in the city getting a bit overzealous with public property. Not only that, but the quippy host also shared a video from a tourist, whose first day in the United States coincided with the Game 5 win. Check it all out in the Instagram post:

I’d expect nothing less from Kimmel, who’s known for having a twisted sense of humor. Overall, though, his comments and Fallon’s big to-do represent the unique ways in which talk show hosts can get in on the fun that coincides with a professional sports team winning a championship. So, given all that, it’s hard not to consider what kind of fun segments Colbert and his since-moved-out staff would’ve come up with.

Since The Late Show’s cancellation, the late-night landscape has changed, and that’s benefitted the Jimmys in a way. Both of their respective shows have seen gains when it comes to ratings, which seemingly indicates that viewers have been gravitating towards other talk shows in recent weeks. I could imagine that being bittersweet for Kimmel and Fallon, though, considering they’re both friendly with Colbert and were classy with him up through the end of his show.

There’s a firm chance we’ll never know how Stephen Colbert and co. would’ve commemorated the New York Knicks’ championship run. At present, though, let’s just appreciate that there are still some talk show personalities who are still in the position to celebrate this piece of sports history that now marks the 2026 TV schedule.

The New York Knicks’ NBA Finals run has sparked major buzz amid the 2026 TV schedule, as fans seemed hyped about the prospect of the beloved team winning a championship title. With that, various devotees have been making their way to Madison Square Garden to watch the games, including superfan Timothée Chalamet and the highly enthusiastic Mariska Hargitay. Most notably, U.S. President Donald Trump attended Game 3 and, after he missed Game 4, Jimmy Fallon surprisingly had some jokes.

Unlike some of his late-night TV cohorts, Fallon isn’t known for getting overtly political during his monologues, so it was somewhat unexpected to see him drop a few zingers at POTUS’ expense. Fallon addressed the Knicks’ latest matchup against the San Antonio Spurs during the opening monologue of the June 11th edition of The Tonight Show. Fallon set up his first joke by talking about the high cost of tickets before delivering the punchline:

President Trump’s trip to MSG initiated a lot of discussions about the merits of the Commander-in-Chief being present at such an event and how it might impact the proceedings. Trump went viral while taking in the game and, when introduced during the event, he was booed by other attendees. Ultimately, the Knicks lost that game to the Spurs, and some pundits, including sportscaster Stephen A. Smith, blamed that on Trump’s presence. As for Fallon, he merely joked about Trump’s absence from Game 4:

That jab referenced the fact that President Trump ironically fell asleep while taking in Game 3, which was actually a relatively tense game. Although Fallon took shots (no basketball pun intended) at the president, he didn’t spend too much time roasting the commander-in-chief. In fact, during that same episode, Fallon later spoke more about the Knicks, specifically his own experience sitting courtside at the event. Check out Fallon’s take:

As it stands, the aforementioned NBA team is doing what it can to keep the stars present at MSG, as the organization is apparently giving away free tickets to celebrities. The notion is that the presence of A-listers is meant to add to the entertainment value of attending a game. I could certainly imagine that team owner James Dolan and co. are getting their money’s worth, given we’ve reached the point where even Taylor Swift is showing up to root on the Knicks. It’s possible that more than a few Knicks fans could show up at Game 5 in San Antonio, as the New York-based team has the chance to clinch the title then.

Otherwise, the action will return to MSG for a potential Game 6 and, if the Knicks were to hoist the coveted Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy at home, that arena would be even more electric than it’s already been. Whether or not President Trump would make another trip to NY for that theoretical game is hard to say. If that happens, though, viewers may want to keep their eyes peeled in case Jimmy Fallon or other late-night personalities have thoughts (and jokes).

Game 5 of the NBA Finals airs Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

The late night landscape is rapidly changing. Actually, if you were to ask Jimmy Kimmel, he’d say it’s “being poisoned” and he’s starting to feel “defeated” about his long-term prospects. However, while it was a sad day when Stephen Colbert officially said goodbye to The Late Show on the 2026 TV schedule, it’s actually been pretty good news for the Jimmys, AKA Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon.

In fact, Colbert’s axing has been good news for both late night hosts. The numbers for the first week of the 11:35 timeslot after The Late Show ended are finally in. Both Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are up in the ratings, and for one of those shows, the increase has been pretty significant.

It looks like a lot of viewers who were still tuning in for The Late Show did shift to Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week. Ratings reports indicate ABC’s late night show last Monday nabbed 2.185 total viewers. That’s a 53% increase from the same show in the same time period a year ago. (It’s worth noting though that numbers for late night are down a bit during the summer and Kimmel’s show averaged 2.56 million total viewers in Q1 this year.)

More intriguingly, Kimmel also saw 295,000 viewers in the 18-49 advertising demo, which marked an increase of 178%, per TV Insider. That's a huge number, percentage-wise.

Fallon also saw an uptick in numbers during last Monday’s airing, hitting 1.3 million total viewers. That’s up 10% over the same time last year. At 194,000 he also saw a 14% increase in the advertising demo.

It honestly checks out that Kimmel’s numbers would have increased compared to Fallon’s. Kimmel has been critical of the administration and very political in a way Fallon has said he will never be on his show. While Stephen Colbert felt a bit more measured in his late night efforts, what Kimmel is bringing to the table is discourse in a way that Fallon’s fun celebrity games will never be. It makes sense if there is a natural shift to Kimmel after Colbert's exit.

What Is Good News For ABC And NBC Is Less So For CBS

Before the show ended, Stephen Colbert’s Late Night was comfortably beating the competition in the 11.35 slot, though Kimmel had been seeing gains over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen is not carrying those numbers yet. The final episode of The Late Show landed 6.7 million total viewers – the highest numbers since Colbert was given the post Super Bowl slot way back in 2016.

Obviously, Comics Unleashed was not expected to hit those great heights. In fact, I don’t think anyone expected it would even bring in The Late Show’s Q1 2026 average, which was 2.7 million total viewers an episode earlier in the year. So, what did it bring in? Monday’s episode landed Byron Allen’s show 628,000 total viewers. That means the timeslot was down 65% in viewers.

Obviously, CBS had to know the numbers would drop after it switched formats, but as the network itself has told us, the powers that be don’t really care. Byron Allen’s show is actually paying the Eye Network for the timeslot, and has to fill its own ads. This gives Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen more control, while CBS no longer has a behemoth of a series to contend with.

Given The Late Show had a big staff and was a large production, in the end it was allegedly costing the network $40 million in losses a year. On the other hand, Allen taking care of business will net the network $15 million a year. CBS sees it as “a $55 million swing” when it comes to profit; Allen himself told CBS Mornings that number is more like $150 million all in.

Still, while I’m happy for the Jimmys and hope Allen and co. find a way to turn a profit, I do think it’s worth noting that for now it does seem like not all viewers are sticking with the late night scene in Colbert’s absence. Still, any numbers that are going upward and not downward when it comes to TV ratings is a huge win, and it's particularly a big deal given neither Live! nor The Tonight Show had to do anything to earn them.

It’s been 25 years since the first Shrek movie, but the franchise is still incredibly popular, so much so that Shrek 5 is slated for release next year. The franchise’s continued to success has meant that despite semi-retirement, Cameron Diaz is still recognized as the voice of Princess Fiona from time to time, though it seems that doesn’t always go well.

Diaz, who appears with Keanu Reeves in the new movie Outcome, available with an Apple TV subscription, recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where the topic of the upcoming Shrek sequel came up. The host asked the actress if her voice gets recognized, and she said it’s actually the parents who usually try to tell their kids who she is. Diaz explained…

While most people who be thrilled to meet Cameron Diaz, or the voice behind a favorite animated character, a young child meeting Princess Fiona is probably either incredibly overwhelming or utterly confusing. While even young kids certainly understand that animated characters are not “real,” that doesn’t mean they fully grasp the mechanics of the characters, so seeing somebody who looks like Cameron Diaz and being told that she’s Fiona might certainly cause some kids to break down.

From the sound of things, this one story isn’t the only time that this, or something like it, has happened to Cameron Diaz. As a result, she apparently tries to get parents not to say anything in order to prevent any outbursts. She continued…

With Shrek 5 coming out, there will be a lot more people exposed to the voice of Fiona, which may, unfortunately, lead to more emotional breakdowns from small children. Although if kids are having trouble with the idea that Cameron Diaz is Fiona, I can’t imagine how kids react to finding out that the voice of Shrek looks like Mike Myers.

This is probably good information to have for the new members of the Shrek 5 cast. Zendaya will voice the daughter of Shrek and Fiona. Our favorite ogre couple will also have sons, so now there will be a whole family of characters to confuse children when they meet celebrities on the street.

The 2026 movie schedule could just be titled, The Year of Robert Pattinson and Zendaya. The two stars will appear in three movies together that are all set to come out this year. They've kicked things off with The Drama, which got 4 out of 5 stars from CinemaBlend and opens in theaters today, and then, we'll see them later this year in the cast of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three. The pair has certainly spent a lot of time together recently. However, they admit they didn’t quite realize how much time they'd spend together when it all started.

Zendaya and Pattinson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in advance of The Drama hitting theaters, and they were asked about the way they ended up in three movies together in a single year. While one would think that this would mean the actors would have a lot to talk about, apparently, due to the secrecy surrounding The Odyssey, neither actor realized their co-star was in that movie with them while filming their A24 project. Zendaya said…

We certainly know about the incredible secrecy that can surround major film productions, and this is most definitely the case with every new Christopher Nolan movie. In the case of The Odyssey, when we did start to learn which actors were involved, we still didn’t know what movie it was that they would be making.

Things were a little different when it came to their third movie. While Dune: Part Three almost certainly had its share of secrecy as well, Zendaya said that she knew Pattinson was going to be in the film before production began, because she was asked about the actor. It sounds like, since she had been making movies with him already, she was seen as an expert on how Pattinson would fit on the set. She revealed…

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya clearly get along, which is good since if they didn’t, making those three movies together would have been rough. While it seems unlikely they're going to appear in quite so many movies together, it certainly won't be shocking if we see them again in the future, as they clearly like each other. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been a couple since falling in love on the set of a movie they co-starred in back in 2011, but the couple, who share two daughters together, tend to keep to themselves. However, when Gosling appeared on The Tonight Show on his partner’s birthday, he involved her in the sweetest way, and she’s making her gratitude known.

When Gosling and Mendes both turned up on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, it marked their first public appearance in over a decade. Ryan Gosling went on the show to promote one of the most anticipated 2026 movie releases, Project Hail Mary, but ended his appearance by getting a high school band and the audience full of teachers to wish his wife happy birthday. Mendes wrote the message on Instagram two days after their appearance on the late-night show. And while she was clearly appreciative of the gesture, she also ended it with "I'll get you back for this," which makes me wonder what tricks she has up her sleeve. Check out exactly what happened below:

Since Gosling plays a middle school science teacher in Project Hail Mary, the actor thought it would be fun to fill the The Tonight Show studio with real teachers for his appearance. And at the end of his interview with Fallon, he asked them if they’d sing Mendes “Happy Birthday” when she came out because of “how much she loves teachers.”

In an adorable moment on The Tonight Show, when Mendes came out, the marching band of North Bergen High School (which is in New Jersey) turned up and played the song with a big sign with her name on it while the crowd of teachers sang to her. It looks like something out of a romantic comedy, doesn’t it?

It’s kind of perfect that Eva Mendes would get some screentime while Gosling is on this specific press tour because she’s really been rooting for him and Project Hail Mary. When the first trailer for the movie went viral over the summer, Mendes joked that 399 million of the 400 million views were hers. She’s also said that she “genuinely love[s] this beautiful family film” and did a pantsless photoshoot with a t-shirt on from the movie for Valentine’s Day.

Mendes isn’t the only one praising Project Hail Mary either. Early reactions have called it a “modern classic” and one of the “greatest space adventure films of all time.” You can see Ryan Gosling play a teacher-turned-astronaut in Project Hail Mary, only in theaters starting on March 20.

Friends help out friends when they can. The closer you are to somebody, the more you’re willing to do for them. Good friends will even share each other's clothes, so to hear that Nick Jonas recently wore Glen Powell’s pants wouldn’t be that unusual a situation. However, the circumstances are not that simple.

Nick Jonas just dropped a video on Instagram where he reveals that during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he wore a pair of pants that were provided to him by an unnamed brand. When putting them on before the show, however, he discovered a piece of paper in one of the pockets. That paper was an airline boarding pass belonging to, of all people, The Running Man actor Glen Powell.

This means that, apparently, Powell had been given the same pair of pants for some previous public appearance, and after he did it, he returned them to the company, who then sent the same pants to Nick Jonas. Of course, the elephant in the room here is that the pants must not have been washed in between celebrity uses. Glen Powell himself is a bit weirded out by this as he commented on the post, saying…

What makes the whole situation weirder is that while Glen Powell is shocked that nobody washed these pants, Nick Jonas apparently is not. He indicates that this is not the first time that he’s reached into a pocket of the provided pants and found something belonging to the last person who wore them. Apparently, it’s a normal thing. The free stuff celebrities get feels a lot less cool now.

Now, Powell and Jonas are friends who are supposed to make a buddy comedy together at some point. So, it's nice to know that they wear the same size pants if anything goes wrong in wardrobe on the set.

At this point, we don’t know how far The Brotherhood of the Traveling Pants extends. If Glen Powell and Nick Jonas have worn the pants, there’s a good chance other celebrities have as well, or they will in the future. These pants could end up going all over the world.

I hope Nick Jonas left something in the pocket so that the next celeb to wear them knows that these pants were once on The Tonight Show. It would be cool to wear pants once worn by Nick Jonas and Glen Powell, though if I somehow ever discover I have those pants, I’m still going to wash them first.

Halle Berry has seemingly been living her best life lately, proving at 59 that age is just a number as she and longtime partner Van Hunt vacation in tropical locales, and the Oscar winner looks as happy as ever jumping on trampolines and drinking wine with her feet. There’s been some confusion regarding her relationship with the musician, though, and when she tried to set the record straight on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she experienced a bit of heckling from the crowd.

It was learned last year that Van Hunt had proposed to Halle Berry, but rather than saying "yes," she put the situation “on hold.” As she explained at the time, she has been married three times, and she didn’t feel like she needed to be married in order for her relationship to be validated. However, as she attempted to spill the tea to Jimmy Fallon, she encountered a bit of an interruption. Check out the video below:

Now, I can imagine this was a bit frustrating for Halle Berry. She was trying to give an important update on the state of her relationship with Van Hunt and correct any misconceptions that she’d rejected the musician’s proposal. I don’t think the heckler had bad intentions, and Jimmy Fallon tried his best, as always, to keep the mood light, but to me, Berry still looked a little uncomfortable.

As the Monster’s Ball star began talking about Van Hunt, saying she wanted to clear up some confusion, she mentioned that they’d been together for six years. At that point, you can hear from the audience a distinct:

Halle Berry hilariously responded, “No!” as Jimmy Fallon chastised the disruptors for being jealous. The actress continued:

The actress — whose new movie Crime 101 hits the 2026 movie calendar on February 13 — had previously said she did not want to get married a fourth time, but sources indicate that was before she met Van Hunt. Despite putting his proposal “on hold,” insiders believed she would end up marrying the musician.

Marriage or no marriage, I think Halle Berry is right that we don't need a wedding to see how much she loves Van Hunt. She certainly hasn’t been shy about it, posting topless photos for Valentine’s Day, showing their “naughty or nice?” Christmases together and dancing to his music until her bottoms fall off.

She did, however, produce proof of her affirmative response to Van Hunt’s proposal, showing Jimmy Fallon her gorgeous engagement ring, as the late-night host took one more swipe at the disruptive audience member, saying:

Halle Berry and Van Hunt appear to have such a loving and healthy relationship that I wasn’t worried about the couple lasting, regardless of whether they ever made it official. However, I’m still over the moon for the actress and happy that she shared her big news with the world to clear up any confusion.

Pete Davidson doesn’t usually mince words, and his latest take on Jimmy Fallon and the current state of 2026 television schedule late-night programming is no exception. Plenty of critics have spent years dragging late night for being stale, toothless, or aggressively upbeat, with Fallon often positioned as the face of that relentlessly sunny approach. But that’s not what the Staten Island comic was really getting at.

His straightforward observation skewed quite differently from other current conversations about late night, most of which are about exits and big changes being implemented. But it's what people in that chair probably think all the time but would never say out loud. In a clip from The Tonight Show, Davidson explained why he actually thinks Fallon has one of the toughest gigs in entertainment. It’s not the schedule or the audience expectations that come with hosting one of the most visible shows on television.

According to the SNL alum, the real challenge is emotional endurance. Or, in the meme-fueled comedian’s own words:

The crowd immediately laughed, and the longtime television personality jumped in with a cheerful defense, assuring everyone that he actually cares. Davidson wasn’t finished. The King of Staten Island star clarified that the job isn’t difficult when the guest is someone you genuinely like or already know. The problem is everything else. He continued:

With the success of recent video game adaptations like The Last of Us and Fallout, it looks like adaptations based on video games are finally seeing some of the success that they have tried so long to achieve. One of the upcoming video game adaptations that is certainly hoping to follow in those footsteps is the Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner, and she’s certainly been putting the work in to achieve it.

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the host brought up the fact that Turner had been cast in Tomb Raider. And while it was only just confirmed a few months ago that Turner was in the role, she revealed that she’s been training for the part for nearly a year already, which means she’s in such good shape she thinks she could take down the host. Turner’s dress when appearing on The Tonight Show didn’t exactly show off muscles, and it also prevented her from any physical displays of strength or dexterity, but one imagines that she’s in pretty solid shape. If any of us trained hard for a year, we’d probably be transformed. Note to self, get back in the gym.

The upcoming Tomb Raider series, which will be available with a Prime Video subscription, is shaping up to be something worth watching. With Turner in the lead, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as co-showrunner and writer, the show is all but guaranteed to be a take on the Lara Croft character that we haven’t seen before.

The series has also filled out its cast with some solid names, including Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs. The characters that have been introduced through the casting indicate the new show will be an original Tomb Raider story and not an adaptation of a previous game. That’s actually par for the course for the franchise as only the 2018 Tomb Raider movie starring Alicia Vikander was actually directly inspired by one of the games, and that failed to spawn the franchise it was looking for.

Turner confirmed that the series hasn’t begun filming yet, so we’re a long way off from actually getting any sort of look at the new series. But the actress is certainly doing her part. And while she didn’t beat up Jimmy Fallon, one assumes that she’ll get plenty of chances to beat people up when the Tomb Raider series arrives on Prime Video.

Plenty of HBO shows got the world talking, and the book-to-screen adaptation Heated Rivalry has definitely joined those ranks. The Canadian series (which is streaming with an HBO Max subscription) has become a sensation, making household names out of stars like Shane Hollander actor Hudson Williams. He recently rocked glasses while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, leading fans to freak out thanks to a connection to the steamy series.

Williams has been dealing with sudden fame thanks to the success of Heated Rivalry, which was on full display when appearing on The Tonight Show. There were a bunch of subtle references to the show during his interview with Fallon, including being served ginger ale and seemingly wearing Shane's famous glasses. The latter definitely got fans' attention, as many took to Twitter as a result. Check out one such response below:

While Williams wearing glasses isn't groundbreaking, the fact that they're seemingly the same ones that his character Shane wears in Heated Rivalry turned the heads of the passionate fanbase. Those specs were a plot point during the first season, with his lover Ilya seemingly turned on by them, and asking his secret lover to wear them during phone sex. This is just one of Heated Rivalry's steamy scenes, and is also why the fandom noticed when he rocked them on The Tonight Show.

Fans were invested in Ilya and Shane starting with their first sex scene, with folks following the years-long relationship between the two closeted Hockey players. Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie's chemistry while doing press has also captured the hearts of viewers, which is likely why something like the actor wearing glasses has gotten so much attention. Another tweet pulled a clip from Heated Rivalry, where Ilya asks Shane to keep the specs on. As you can see below:

Hudson Williams put on the glasses when Jimmy Fallon showed him a photo of him and Storrie, so it's not like he had to read something. That, combined with the ginger ale, makes me think that he rocked them purposefully to titillate fans who tuned in to see the interview.

Heated Rivalry was renewed for Season 2, with Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie teasing fans by saying it'll be "hotter, wetter and longer". The two of them know that sex sells, so much so that they got matching tattoos with those two words. Season 1 ended with Shane and Ilya finally committed to being in a relationship, even if they're keeping it a secret for now. And it should be interesting to see how this changes the narrative whenever it returns.

The first season of Heated Rivalry is streaming in its entirety over on HBO Max. It's currently unclear when Season 2 will premiere, but some fans are crossing their fingers that production starts soon so it can be part of the 2026 TV schedule.

With Christmas just days away, many scripted and unscripted shows have taken breaks until the 2026 TV schedule takes over, with the final episodes of Stranger Things being the monster-sized exceptions. The late night is understandably also taking off for the holidays, meaning any and all of the biggest entertainment news stories happening in the next two weeks won’t be talked about by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Seth Meyers.

They will surely have a lot to share when each host's respective show returns in the new year. But when will that actually be? Let's run down the list of network TV staples.

When Does The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Return?

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon aired its final 2025 show on Thursday, December 18, which gave Fallon just enough time to burn off all of the Stranger Things coverage ahead of the Volume 2 and Volume 3 releases. This holiday week's installments will include reruns of previous episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly.

There doesn’t seem to be a confirmed return date as of yet. It can be expected that The Tonight Show will remain on break through at least next week, with a possible return either the first or second full week of January.

When Does Jimmy Kimmel Live! Return?

After a rough end to the year, Jimmy Kimmel is taking a much-deserved break for the holidays. Since 2023, Kimmel has taken off for the last two weeks of the year, per EW, and that trend is continuing this year. Just like with The Tonight Show, there will be reruns in place of new episodes this week and next week. His final episode of 2025 was on Thursday, where he tearfully reflected on the year, not long after ABC renewed his contract through 2027.

An exact return date has not been revealed, but it will likely arrive in early January.

When Does The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Return?

Stephen Colbert has officially taken his final holiday break before his final run of shows in 2026. These final two weeks of 2025 will consist of reruns, according to EW, with Colbert coming back in the new year to kickstart the final five months of his run before ending in May.

Celebrities and fellow late-night hosts have been speaking out about the cancellation, with Kimmel even using his platform to campaign for Colbert’s Emmy rather than his own. Additionally, Hugh Jackman did a rendition of “Sweet Caroline” to account for the devastating cancellation, and it was as perfect as ever. No return date has been given, but fans should be able to look forward to The Late Show’s return in early January.

When Does Late Night with Seth Meyers Return?

Seth Meyers is also off for the holidays, with NBC showing reruns of the late-night talk show, per EW. The break comes after President Trump called for all of late night to be canceled and after Meyers had guests such as Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, doing a Day Drinking segment with the latter. As of yet, a return date has not been announced, but will likely be in early 2026 as well.

It's hard for me to imagine a time when Tim Allen wasn't a household name. Throughout my life, I've seen him in the best Christmas movies, various hit sitcoms, and of course, heard his voice as the iconic Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story. To think his mainstream success really skyrocketed with caveman grunts is wild, but little did I know that it started long before Home Improvement.

With Shifting Gears returning to the 2025 TV schedule on December 3rd after a brief hiatus, it seems Tim Allen will be on The Tonight Show to discuss various things about his career. After Jimmy Fallon showed the actor a woman on the dating app Hinge who asked men to do their best grunt mimicking him, Allen talked about how that whole thing started:

I guess I never thought about it, but the dull rumble you hear in an ample eating space of adults does have a similar sound to Tim Allen's signature grunt. It's wild to think about how that grunt played a part in Home Improvement's massive success on television and built this massively successful career.

Where Tim Allen's Grunting Came From

Ironically, the entire grunting bit came together thanks to Tim Allen's family. It brought the comedian back to dinners in his home, and the way men would react at the table whilst feasting:

I would say that signature grunt is what made Home Improvement a hit, but I have to give some credit to his co-star, Richard Karn, as well. Even so, every time I think of Tim Allen, I would have to say that one of the first things I think about is that grunt, followed by how criminally underrated Galaxy Quest is by the mainstream all these years later.

For those feeling nostalgic about Tim Allen now but not so much that they don't want to watch The Santa Clause, ABC will air a special holiday episode of Shifting Gears on December 10th. The episode is titled "Nutcracker," and will feature actress Pamela Adlon as a guest star, so I think it has the potential to be a Christmas classic.

After that, Shifting Gears won't return until the 2026 TV schedule is here on January 7th. Truthfully, with the holidays happening between the Christmas episode and the return, that will feel like no time at all has passed. Readers will have time to sit down around the dinner table with their families, and maybe work on their best Tim Allen grunts as well.

Shifting Gears airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. As someone who is a sucker for television Christmas specials, I'm eager to see what they're cooking up for their special and hope for plenty of Pamela Adlon, as I'm a big fan of her work.

These last few months of the 2025 TV schedule could potentially mark the final time TV audiences will experience a full year of Big 3 late night talk shows, considering The Late Show’s cancellation will leave a Stephen Colbert-sized void on CBS. All of the hubbub surrounding the show and its parent companies has attracted even more attention to an already complicated situation, but a lot of those eyeballs are helping Colbert keep a dominating foothold over his competition. At least for the most part.

According to previously unveiled stats from Late Nighter, The Late Show holds the crown for the most watched late night option for Q3 2025, and it would be hard to argue against the idea that the July cancellation news inspired an uptick in viewership. (And possibly even helped fuel the show’s first Emmy win for Outstanding Talk Show.) Here’s how the July-September totals shook out in comparison with the prior three months, across both the 11:30 p.m. hour and the 12:30 a.m. block.

• The Late Show with Stephen Colbert - 2.84 million avg. viewers (+17%); 260k 18-49 year-olds demographic (+19%)
• Jimmy Kimmel Live! - 1.85 million avg viewers; 243k 18-49 demo
• The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon - 1.23 million avg. viewers; 170k 18-49 demo
• Late Night with Seth Meyers - 923k avg. viewers; 109k 19-49 demo
• Nightline - 745k avg. viewers; 96k 18-49 demo

Sure, total viewership numbers don't paint the entire picture indicating a show's overall popularity, but the face value of The Late Show's dominance here is pretty telling. Not only did that three-month stretch give Colbert a million-viewer advantage over his second-place competition, but he averaged twice the number of total viewers as Jimmy Fallon on NBC.

The CBS staple's demo numbers were not quite as lofty, which plays into expectations. CBS audiences tend to skew older, and Colbert's guests and political topics are also more likely to be viewed by older generations than those more privy to watching interview clips on TikTok. He still brought more 18-49 viewers overall, but its percentage of the total audience was far lower than that of Kimmel and Fallon's viewer bases.

Worth noting here is that Jimmy Kimmel's high-end demographic totals were likely fueled by the response to his ABC suspension over comments made in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's shooting. That took place in mid-September, and his return episode a week later earned record-setting numbers for Kimmel.

The Latest Late Night Numbers

The Jimmy Kimmel suspension brouhaha dissipated in the following days and weeks, and it's been pretty quiet all around, at least comparatively, in the world of late night. (Not counting Donald Trump's recent calls for Seth Meyers to get fired.) For the week of November 9, the ABC host scored a win despite going through a personal rough patch involving the death of longtime bandleader Cleto Escobedo III, which caused him to cancel several episodes.

Here's how those numbers shook out, with Colbert facing dips from the prior week.

• The Late Show - 2.15 million avg viewers; 172k demo
• Jimmy Kimmel Live! - 1.8 million avg. viewers; 223k demo
• The Tonight Show - 1.21 million avg. viewers; 141k. demo

For now, Jimmy Kimmel is leading the charge with the key advertising demo, while Stephen Colbert is drawing the biggest crowds through and through. And meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon is...also on TV each night.

For what it's worth, Fox News' Gutfeld! beat out all of the broadcast lads in terms of total average audience, with 2.78 million. Though its' 189k demo rating didn't quite stack up to Kimmel's.

The Indiana Pacers' run to the NBA Finals last season was something out of a Hollywood movie, and weirdly enough, involved a lot of celebrities. The underdog team crossed paths with many famous faces throughout the playoffs and got into a dispute with everyone from Ben Stiller to Timothée Chalamet. The Pacers were taking shots at all courtside celebs, which inadvertently led to Miles Teller getting caught in the crossfire.

Teller brought the story up during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, in which he was shown a picture from Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. In it T.J. McConnell gestured to him that he had "ice in his veins" after hitting a 3-pointer despite it not being his forte. After being shown a picture of the moment, the actor gave some context behind the situation, and the hilarious reaction his wife had:

It's pretty hilarious that Miles Teller's wife thought that NBA superstars were mimicking the taunts of children, but I see where she's coming from. It's also amusing that Teller was on the receiving end of the taunt, despite being a bystander with no particular allegiance to the New York Knicks or Indiana Pacers.

Of course, Teller was probably caught in the mix because Timothée Chalamet is a diehard Knicks fan and was seated beside Teller. Knicks fans even believed that his girlfriend Kylie Jenner was a good luck charm, and kept pushing her to attend games so they could continue to win.

In any case, the actor doesn't appear to be upset by what happened. In fact, he was so happy that Jimmy Fallon had a picture of the moment he asked if he could hang it up in his home. It's good to see one celebrity walk away from that series with fond memories, as even Indiana native John Mellencamp got worked up watching that series.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect to see the Pacers moving with such swagger in 2025, unless readers are watching Starting 5 Season 2 with a Netflix subscription. The team currently has only one victory this season, thanks to a litany of injuries, including the absence of star player Tyrese Haliburton for the entire regular season. As a fan of the team, I'm sad that we won't get another Hoosiers-like run again this season, but I'm sure more than a few fans in New York are breathing easy.

Miles Teller is going to be busy on the upcoming movie schedule, as he's set to appear in the Michael movie, in addition to other projects. As for the NBA, the season is currently going on, and who knows who will be in the mix come playoff time?

Ever since Jimmy Fallon took over The Tonight Show in 2014 after Jay Leno retired, he’s brought his own brand of fun. From writing thank you notes to the oddest things to his viral lip-synch battles, Fallon has turned the late-night show into a playground of fun and humor, featuring sketches that harken back to his early SNL days. The talented host apparently even endears himself to celebrity guests so much that when they've visited his show, they've told him how their movies are “so bad.”

I've watched The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon amid the 2025 TV schedule, and I really enjoy his segment involving movie spoofs. Fallon has never been one to shy away from involving guests to spoof their own movies, like when he and Jamie Lee Curtis recreated her iconic aerobics scene from Perfect or when Michael Keaton reenacting his Birdman scenes rewritten by kids. The Primetime Emmy winner admitted to Forbes that behind the scenes, though, celebrities have even gone as far as to trash their own flicks while talking to him:

I’ve got to give Jimmy Fallon credit for his optimism. Given how entertaining his talk show is and all of the hilariously memorable lines he delivers, I’m sure he's always able to find the hilarity in even the most panned movies. I have a hunch that even if a celebrity guest warns Fallon off one of their films, he’ll probably watch it anyway whether to form an opinion for himself or simply to find humorous material for his show.

In general, fans may be surprised how many A-listers have admitted they’ve hated their own movies. A popular example would be Halle Berry hating on Catwoman after the critics did. (Berry even gave a funny Razzies speech after winning her Worst Actress Award.) Viola Davis has also constantly talked about regretting her role in The Help.

Most recently, Dakota Johnson said she doesn’t plan on seeing Madame Web, saying she wasn’t surprised that it got “ripped to shreds” by critics. I suppose a person has to appreciate the fact that some stars can be honest with themselves about their work and in turn, have no problem with Jimmy Fallon lampooning said movies as he sees fit.

I honestly wish I could be a fly on the wall when those actors speak to Fallon about the movies they're not so proud of. Still, whether an actor likes their film or not, that doesn't keep a devoted fan from like not only the film but the spoofs on The Tonight Show just fine.

It’s hard to argue the effect that KPop Demon Hunters has had on pop culture since hitting the 2025 Netflix schedule in June. The animated hit has become the streamer's most popular film of all time, boasting the biggest soundtrack of the decade, thanks to hits like “Golden.” Well, if you ever hoped to see the members of HUNTR/X show us how it’s done, done, done in a live performance, you’re about to get your chance.

KPop Demon Hunters is centered around the girl group HUNTR/X, with Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami providing the singing voices of Rumi, Mira and Zoey, respectively. The trio is set to make their first televised performance on the 2025 TV schedule next Tuesday, October 7, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

This is absolutely wild news, because I kind of expected the chances of ever seeing the animated K-pop group perform live were about as good as seeing someone actually walk the red carpet in a sleeping bag. (And I guess that turned out to be correct.)

HUNTR/X is expected to perform “Golden,” Deadline reports, and they will also join host Jimmy Fallon for an interview. You can see the late night host’s announcement below:

KPop Demon Hunters has caused a ton of buzz over the past few months, making a strong argument for being the movie of the summer. Not only are fans obsessed with the soundtrack — which, along with HUNTR/X, features catchy tracks like “Soda Pop” from the demon boy band Saja Boys — but the movie’s message about embracing your inner demons has really struck a chord.

Even people like me — who had no knowledge of (or interest in) animated fantasy flicks and only watched it for my kids’ benefit — have jumped on the bandwagon. I even contributed to KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along Event topping the box office for its weekend in theaters, because we were not about to miss what might end up being the best big-screen experience of the year.

With the Netflix movie now generating Oscar buzz as a potential nominee for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, it’s hard to believe it originally didn’t have any music. I refuse to acknowledge that was ever a possibility. Instead, I’d prefer to look forward to what questions might be answered in a sequel — after watching HUNTR/X perform on Fallon, of course.

Next week is a pretty big one for NBC’s late-night host. Just one night before the KPop Demon Hunters group makes their live debut, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will host Taylor Swift on Monday, October 6, as she promotes her 12th album The Life of a Showgirl, which comes out Friday, October 3.

I couldn’t be more excited to see HUNTR/X come to life for their first televised performance, and I think there’s a pretty good chance I’ll be firing up my Netflix subscription to sing along to all the catchy tunes again before then. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs at 11:35 p.m. ET weekdays on NBC.

If you thought that the only major shakeup in late night television before the end of the 2025 TV schedule would be The Late Show with Stephen Colbert being cancelled by CBS, ABC and Nexstar proved you wrong. Production on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended "indefinitely" just hours before Kimmel's next new episode was set to film. A big question in the aftermath was how other late night hosts would react, especially after the strong reactions to Colbert's cancellation in July. Jon Stewart of The Daily Show and Jimmy Fallon of The Tonight Show were first up.

Their opening monologues were actually surprisingly similar, and not just because both hosts chose to wear red ties for the episodes that aired on September 18. Instead of sharing any hot takes on the situation like other celebs shared on social media about Kimmel's suspension, both took the approach of pretending to be – to quote Stewart – "administration compliant." The Daily Show episode was the first to air, so let's start there.

Jon Stewart On The Daily Show

Compared to Jon Stewart's rant when The Late Show was cancelled, he was downright restrained in his on-screen reaction to Jimmy Kimmel Live! getting suspended. In fact, he didn't even mention Jimmy Kimmel until about ten minutes in, and his approach was to deliver his monologue like he was in a hostage situation and forced to say what he was saying, to the mirth of the studio audience.

In fact, Stewart didn't even mention Jimmy Kimmel until about ten minutes in, but it was already clear that the Comedy Central was going to deliver something memorable by bringing Stewart in on a Thursday when he's usually the Monday host.

The broadcast largely used video clips of President Trump and other networks rather than Stewart making direct commentary. That's not to say that he leaned into the Daily Show style of comedy from start to finish, and he got more sincere when he noted that "it's not really about the specific words." He said instead that it's "about having a basic sense of humanity." Take a look for yourself:

New episodes of The Daily Show air Monday - Thursday on Comedy Central at 11 p.m. ET, with Stewart hosting on Mondays. As for The Tonight Show, Fallon's approach was similar to Stewart's in some key ways but quite different in others.

Jimmy Fallon On The Tonight Show

Jimmy Fallon wasted no time in explicitly addressing the late night TV elephant in the room, bringing up Jimmy Kimmel in the first moments of his monologue. His opening joke was:

Fallon went on to crack a joke about getting texts from his dad that was almost identical to a joke he cracked after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert got the axe. He clarified that The Tonight Show won't be censored and that he'd cover "the President's trip the U.K. like I normally would."

Somewhat similarly to The Daily Show, The Tonight Show's approach was to seemingly "let" Jimmy Fallon go off about the situation while dubbing over his words with gentler language. Based on the cheers from the audience, a crowd-favorite joke was when his joke about POTUS' hair was dubbed over with "–– better than Conrad's from The Summer I Turned Pretty."

Like Stewart, Fallon did have some very sincere moments, including what he said about the man who had been his ABC counterpart:

After The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was suddenly canceled and caused an uproar with viewers, celebrities such as Bowen Yang and Jimmy Kimmel are showing their support. Kimmel also called out claims about The Late Show losing money, as many are wondering what this means for late-night television. While it’s hard to predict how things will turn out for other late-night shows, The Tonight Show producer Lorne Michaels is weighing in on the whole situation.

Michaels not only created and currently produces Saturday Night Live, which entering its 51^st season on the 2025 TV schedule this fall, and rumored to also be in danger, but his Broadway Video production company has been producing The Tonight Show since former SNL cast member Jimmy Fallon took over in 2014. He’s also been producing Late Night, currently hosted by fellow former SNL cast member Seth Meyers, since the ‘90s, so Michaels definitely has a lot of experience in that genre. And like many, he was surprised when The Late Show’s cancelation was announced, as he told Puck News’ Matt Belloni:

There have been a lot of reported factors for The Late Show’s cancelation, including the new CBS head honcho blaming YouTube, where a lot of people have been watching either clips or full interviews. That's exactly what Michaels pointed out. But that can really be said for any show as the Internet continues to take over. That being said, nothing is ever certain when it comes to a show’s renewal or cancelation... no matter how bleak or great things may look.

Things could always change a year from now, but Michaels doesn’t seem too worried. He revealed the chances of The Tonight Show and Late Night, and it seems like fans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now:

It sounds like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers will be sticking around for a long time, which is definitely a good thing. It also helps that Michaels has a good relationship with the Comcast CEO. Both Fallon and Meyers have shown support to Colbert, as have other late-night hosts, and both of their shows do well. Plus, this certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Fallon was probably worried about a cancelation, as he’s been open about public criticism and bad press before, no matter where it comes from.

The television landscape is never the same, and things are constantly shifting, whether it’s directly behind the scenes or a higher power. Even though The Late Show’s cancelation has ruffled more than a few feathers and has made people worried about the future of late-night, there are likely other factors that go into it. What this could mean months from now is unknown, and the status of other late-night shows is hard to tell. If The Late Show is any indication, anything can happen.

To say that Stephen Colbert is having an interesting year is to say that outer space sure is dark. The late night staple was thrown for a loop when CBS axed The Late Show ahead of its impending 11th season, as tied to parent company Paramount’s now-finalized merger with Skydance. Recent weeks’ episodes have seen the host taking shots at the Powers that Be, while also talking about what gig he might take on next, but fans won’t be seeing any of that during upcoming episodes.

That’s because The Late Show is taking a week off amidst all of the behind-the-scenes turmoil. Although it should be pointed out that this mini-hiatus was already planned and in the books, and isn’t a direct response to everything that’s gone down since the cancellation news. That said, it’s not necessarily the worst timing, either, although it comes at a point when The Late Show is enjoying a ratings surge. (More on that lower.)

A lot of the conversations surrounding The Late Show’s future, at least from the network’s perspective, revolve around the show’s financial failings, since Stephen Colbert hasn’t been nearly as successful as late night rival Jimmy Fallon by way of videos clips going viral featuring celebrities doing silly and ridiculous things. Outside of network rumblings, fans and haters alike have both surmised that the show’s heightened focus on partisan politics and an abundance of left-leaning politician guests also factored into the decision.

If that is indeed the case, then the choices for this week’s (and last Friday’s) repeats seem pointed enough. Here’s the lineup that CBS announced:

The Late Show's Hiatus Comes After Recent Ratings Wins

According to LateNighter, the aftermath of the CBS cancellation has been a boon for The Late Show's viewership numbers and its key demo ratings. In the week of episodes that ran from July 28-August 1, during which Colbert hosted four new episodes, the CBS talk show's average nightly audience was higher than the combined audiences of both Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

To be sure, all of Jimmy Kimmel's episodes that week were repeats, which may have had an impact on how that show's numbers looked.

Regardless, though, it does seem like Stephen Colbert's job issues have given him a slight advantage in the ratings, so it'll be interesting to see if he attempts to capitalize on that in any way going forward. I mean, we'll likely see him promote his upcoming Elsbeth guest spot ahead of it hititng the 2025 TV schedule, but what else?

Though a quick glance at the 2025 TV schedule may not immediately indicate the current in-flux nature of late night TV talk shows, recent headlines are pretty clear about laying out troublesome indications. CBS dropped the cancellation axe on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, causing its host (and South Park) to go semi-scorched earth on parent company Paramount Global’s merger with Skydance Media, with at least one more host possibly in the crosshairs. But what about his friendly rivals on other networks like Jimmy Fallon?

On the surface, The Tonight Show’s future looks pretty set in stone, as does Late Night with Seth Meyers, given that both shows are part of NBCUniversal and aren’t in the Paramount family. But considering Meyers has gone just as hard as Colbert has on political comedy and commentary in recent years, with Fallon taking more of a softball approach, is it possible the entirety of late night TV will come to a grinding halt before Donald Trump leaves office again?

Why The Tonight Show And Late Night Are Likely Safe (For Now)

Over a year before CBS' Late Show decision, both Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon negotiated contract extensions that, barring any major discreptancies, will keep them on the air for several more years. In May 2024, Meyers extended his deal to keep hosting Late Night through 2028, while also extending his and Mike Shoemaker's production company Sethmaker Shoemeyers' overall deal with Universal Studio Group.

Meanwhile, in June 2024, Fallon made a similar deal that will keep The Tonight Show going until at least 2028. At the time, the SNL vet voiced the wild hope that he aimed to stick around the late night scene for as long as Johnny Carson, who famously hosted The Tonight Show for 30 years. Granted, both of those extensions happened before Donald Trump returned to the White House and started getting litigious with TV networks.

Another reason why Jimmy Fallon's late night future seems fairly safe is that he's also invested in a pair of NBC's current and upcoming unscripted primetime offerings. He's an executive producer on the recently debuted and Martin Short-hosted game show Password, where he'll also be part of the celebrity panels.

As well, he's hosting the new reality competition series On Brand with Jimmy Fallon, which will pit marketing professionals against each other involving consumer-based challenges like commercial jingles, product designs and more. The show will debut in the fall and will air on both Tuesday and Friday nights.

Why Some Are Still Worried About The Tonight Show And Late Night's Futures

Perhaps the biggest factor here is just the worry that anything seemingly set in stone can suddenly get upended, as it went with The Late Show. But it isn't just the fates of other shows that has sparked concerns.

One of CBS and Paramount's biggest reported reasons for cancelling The Late Show is tied to the show's allegedly dismal financial situation. Colbert doesn't produce the kind of viral social media clips that bring extra eyeballs and advertisers to Fallon, Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel's shows. But while those do give the NBC shows an advantage, both series took money-saving creative hits in 2024 after contract extensions were made.

As one insider reminded Page Six, that was the point when NBC cut back on episode counts for The Tonight Show, with Jimmy Fallon no longer recording episodes five days a week.

What's more, Late Night with Seth Meyers' band members (as fronted by Fred Armisen) were given the pink slip in 2024 as a cost-saving measure. It would appear that both of those decisions were good enough to keep both shows running normally otherwise, but how long with that homeostasis stay intact before producers are required to find other elements to snip out?

Another element at play here is that Donald Trump's influence and outrage have largely revolved around CBS and Paramount in recent weeks. But if that attention should get redirected at NBCUniversal, it's possible that his actions could lead to NBC execs making difficult decisions with its two remaining late night staples.

Again, though, all seems safe for now, so there's no better time to celebrate it, even as Colbert's friends, former co-workers and current staffers are airing their grief about The Late Show ending in 2026.

The 2025 TV schedule has been a tumultuous time for the world of late night television, including the quiet cancellation of After Midnight in the spring and the shocking cancellation of Stephen Colbert's The Late Show in July. In fact, that latter cancellation caused such massive waves that huge names in pop culture spoke up in solidarity with Colbert. Jimmy Fallon, longtime host of The Tonight Show, expressed support for the Late Show icon... not long before his new show got a premiere date, officially being set to air twice a week on NBC starting in late September.

How Jimmy Fallon Reacted To The Late Show's Cancellation

Just like Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s Jimmy Kimmel from ABC, NBC's Jimmy Fallon didn't hold back from showing support for the CBS host who was technically his competition in late night television. He posted in a since-expired Instagram Story that he was "just as shocked as everyone" about Stephen Colbert's Late Show and "really thought I'd ride this out with him for years to come."

He went a little farther when he joined the likes of fellow NBC late night host Seth Meyers as well as Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, Adam Sandler, and more celebs for a funny bit on The Late Show in one of the first shots back at CBS for the cancellation.

Basically, there was some serious solidarity between late night TV hosts when one of their own got the worst kind of news. For Fallon, however, his future on NBC is looking pretty good.

Jimmy Fallon's New Show Gets A Premiere Date

Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show isn't going anywhere for the time being, and he's in fact debuting a brand new show starting this fall. In the same announcement that confirmed Law & Order: Organized Crime is returning to NBC, On Brand with Jimmy Fallon received its premiere date(s). The new program's first night of the week will be Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET, starting on September 30. The second night of the week will be Fridays at 8 p.m. ET, starting on October 3.

The Tonight Show will continue to air Monday - Thursday, as has been the case since NBC cut the Friday night broadcasts last September. So, what is On Brand with Jimmy Fallon? Well, the unscripted series follows Jimmy Fallon after he starts a marketing agency and fills it with the most creative and competitive people he can find, with Bozoma Saint John as the "On Brand Agency's" Chief Marketing Officer to mentor and evaluate the participants.

In each episode, the participants of the On Brand Agency will work with a major brand that is looking for a new campaign, including Captain Morgan, Dunkin', KitchenAid, Marshalls, Pillsbury, SONIC, Southwest Airlines, and Therabody. By the end, one creative will be left standing and receive a cash prize as well as the experience gained from competition. Fallon is on board On Brand as host, executive producer, and creator.

What About The Tonight Show?

I don't want to claim that anything is guaranteed in late night TV after the shocker of Stephen Colbert's Late Show cancellation, but Jimmy Fallon renewed his deal with NBCUniversal as the host of The Tonight Show through 2028 last summer. It seems that he should be safely on the air for another few years if all goes according to plan. Seth Meyers also renewed his deal with NBCUniversal to continue hosting Late Night through 2028. Late Night follows The Tonight Show on weekday nights.

That may partially explain Meyers' somewhat optimistic take about the future of late night TV... but then again, he made those comments before The Late Show with Stephen Colbert got the axe. For now, though, there are indeed reasons to be hopeful about the future of late night on at least NBC. In short, everyone has to start somewhere, so even notable talents like Supernatural and The Boys actor Jensen Ackles had his own slow start by dipping his teen toes into the waters of fame. What Happened When Jensen Ackles’ Old Modeling Pics Were Shown On The Tonight Show?

I’m sure there are lots of actors and others with famed talent who did some things to make money and get started in their careers who wish that certain potentially embarrassing early projects would just disappear. But, in an age where anything can be put online and live forever, that’s just not going to happen in many cases.

Jensen Ackles (who just finished filming a bit of a Supernatural reunion with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins for The Boys’ upcoming fifth and final season) found that out the hard way recently. He paid a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new series, Countdown, on the 2025 TV schedule (which can be streamed with an Amazon Prime subscription) and was shocked to find that the host had done some digging into his pre-pre-pre-Dean Winchester days as a ‘90s teen model. At first, Ackles was confused by hearing that he’d had a “modeling career” (as seen in the photo atop this article), but then he was hit with the reality of his time working for the JC Penney catalog:

Wow. Does he look ashamed or what? I have to say, this isn’t as bad as it was going to get during this segment, so he could have saved this hang-dog look for later. As it is, being seen smiling and rocking out to some ‘90s tunes (for some reason, I imagine he’s listening to Vanilla Ice) at around 13 to 14 years old isn’t that bad. At least he made some money, right? Well, the humiliation continued:

Oh, boy. To me, this is the pinnacle of embarrassment. Listen, there are no fashion eras that pass without the youth who had to suffer through those eras growing up and knowing that they’d be horrified by some of the sartorial choices that were either made for them or that they made themselves. Here, of course, the former Days of Our Lives actor was wearing clothes as work, but still…it’s not great. What’s that you say? You need a closer look? I shall humbly oblige…

He appears to be biting down on a popsicle here, which I don’t think any real people actually do. Although, young Mr. Ackles does seem rather dead-eyed and befuddled in this photo, so who knows what was going on. I do now wonder if this is just how he actually ingests popsicles, but I guess that’s a topic for a different article. At any rate, this is a dude that Dean (whose adventures you can revisit with a Netflix subscription) would 1000% make fun of, regardless of age. There’s just one more photo, and it is truly one of the times. Observe:

OK, I know this is the picture that appears to be the least mortifying, but with the star over his initial feelings of embarrassment, he’s fully playing along. Apparently, he believes that this pose was purposely modeled after one Mr. Joey Tribbiani from Friends, because he thinks it’s his “How you doin’?” look. There may be nothing more purely ‘90s than that.

It's fair to say that Jimmy Fallon has accomplished a lot. He made his debut on Saturday Night Live in 1998 (which can be streamed with a Peacock subscription) and, eventually, he got the chance host his own late-night talk show in 2009. Needless to say, Fallon's hosting stints, film and TV roles and epic return to SNL after leaving have made him a household name. With that notoriety though, comes plenty of criticism, and the star just revealed how he deals with it.

The Tonight Show host appeared on the podcast, The Diary Of A CEO, on which he told host Steven Bartlett what it’s really like to be in the spotlight. When asked what he wasn’t prepared for in regard to fame, Fallon said “rejection” as well as getting his sketches cut and being told that he’s not funny by haters. Fallon pointed out that it was all before the age of Twitter, so it was a different ballgame:

Unfortunately, when it comes to celebrities, hate, criticism and bad press normally come with the territory. It may be commonplace, but it's still sad to see that some people make it their job to tear others down. However, it sounds like Fallon doesn’t listen to much of it and chooses to focus more on his work instead. The entertainer emphasized that as he continued to speak with Steven Bartlett:

Jimmy Fallon has a great way of looking at his circumstances. What he's basically saying is that he doesn’t really listen to all the criticism because if he doesn’t, it really has no effect on him. On the other hand, critiques can really tear a person up if they adhere to them too much. Obviously, there’s only so much that he can ignore. Still, Fallon is still one of the biggest stars Saturday Night Live has produced, he's appeared in some of the most beloved SNL sketches and is currently host of The Tonight Show. I'd say he's doing quite well despite what any haters might say.

At this point, the Fever Pitch star is over 11 years into his run with the aforementioned talk show. He's seen his share of ups and downs in that time, with NBC even having made some cuts to the show's budget in recent years. Still, Fallon doesn’t seem to be eager to leave anytime soon. He’s also been busy with Password and That’s My Jam, both of which also air on NBC.

Many of us would probably be wise to heed Jimmy Fallon's advice about blocking out negativity. There are certainly benefits to having thick skin, and one is that it certainly helps to deflect any kind of mean or unkind energy that comes one's way.

The country music star visited The Tonight Show to promote his new album For Recreational Use Only. Blake Shelton is no stranger to Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show, as this marked his 10th appearance, so I’m sure it was no shock when the host cracked up multiple times, doubling over in laughter and grabbing Shelton’s arm. As the singer talked about working with Post Malone last year, he realized there were similarities — and one big difference — between Malone and Fallon. Shelton deadpanned:

Dayyyum. Now, when Blake Shelton was a coach on The Voice, he was known to be quite the troll, but this is not a new criticism of the late-night host. In fact, it’s kind of fair. I don’t think I’ve ever watched Jimmy Fallon interview anyone without, at some point, him throwing his head back in laughter, clapping his hands or banging on his desk.

I’m definitely not saying all (or even most) of his laughs are fake, but I might say “performative” is a fair adjective. Look at recent guest Young Mazino from The Last of Us, for example. The actor looks far less amused by what he said than Jimmy Fallon:

Jimmy Fallon is known for his own hilarious quotes, and I love that he’s not afraid to show appreciation for others’ humor, like when he shared a knee-slapper with Sofia Vergara.

I also wouldn’t feel too sorry for Jimmy Fallon following Blake Shelton’s quip. The country music star may dish it out, but he can also take it (just ask Adam Levine, who has talked about how far was “too far” to push his fellow Voice coach). Shelton definitely thought Fallon was setting up for a joke when he described the new album cover:

• Jimmy Fallon: I think the album cover is cool. It's mysterious. You're, like, a stranger in a bar.
• Blake Shelton: Stop.
• Fallon: No, no, no.
• Shelton: What are you doing? Just say your joke. I know you’re building up to something.
• Fallon: No, you're, like, thinking. You're in front of a jukebox, there's a map behind you with, like, a whip. You're like Indiana Jones. You're deciding, ‘What song should I play next?’

It was then that Blake Shelton asked the band to start playing something so that Jimmy Fallon would have to stop dissecting the cover of his record.

Jimmy Fallon definitely seems to have fun as he talks to his guests, but after so many years of people calling him out for fake laughing, I am dying over Blake Shelton’s takedown.

We’ve been living in the age of technology for years now, and with AI creeping its way into every facade of life, it stands out that some late-night hosts are still using cue cards in the year 2025. But there’s a good reason why Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and even Conan O’Brien have refused to retire cue cards in favor of teleprompters, and Saturday Night Live plays a big role in that decision.

Meyers addressed the popular question a few weeks ago during a question and answer session with one of his Late Night audiences. Via Instagram, the Weekend Update alum started off his answer by introducing the audience to Wally Feresten, the infamous cue card holder/writer, before saying:

The variety sketch show, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary, has been using cue cards since the show began. While SNL isn't without its own mistakes, rare is it ever the fault of the cue cards, which is probably why so many alumni and current cast members continue to swear by them.

It’s not just loyalty to Wally — who also works on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon — that keeps Meyers and other late-night hosts from ditching the cue cards in favor of technological advances like the teleprompter, but rather the safety net the cards provide. Meyers elaborated:

These are all very valid concerns that have caused problems for teleprompter-only productions like the 2017 Golden Globes, where the teleprompter broke on Fallon, and silence followed for several seconds until production could fix the problem. With such bad experiences stemming from teleprompters, it’s no surprise that these SNL vets rely on tried and true cue cards to get their shows done.

Of course, accidents can happen with cue cards, too, but it’s likely a much easier and quicker fix than having to wait for a teleprompter to be repaired while the cameras roll. After all, all cue card users have to worry about is human error, and a professional like Wally isn’t going to let that happen. And if something were to happen to him, well, Meyers can explain his backup plan:

All jokes aside, cue cards really do provide some comfort to those who work with them — especially when Wally is the one behind the giant cards. Whether you love them or not, there’s no denying that Stephen A. Smith’s takes are always hot. He’s given tons of his opinions on various sports topics as the 2025 TV schedule chugs along, but recently, he shared some opinions that aren’t (directly) related to what airs on ESPN. That’s right, the longtime TV personality shared his thoughts on the probability of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce getting married, and I have to say, I kind of hope he’s right.

During a segment on The Tonight Show that involved Stephen A. Smith doing what he does best – dishing out hot takes – he was asked about the speculation surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce possibly getting married. In response to the prompt that stated the couple “will get married in 2025,” the ESPN talent said:

He then noted that the pop star is a “three-headed monster” who is hard to turn down. While that sounds wild, it was quite complimentary, as you can see in the video below and considering Smith’s above comments about her talent, net worth and beauty.

Now, I’m not of the opinion that Swift and Kelce will get married this year. I mean, they aren’t even engaged. However, I do love Smith’s take, and I hope he’s right that they will tie the knot eventually.

Smith isn’t the only one with this take, either. NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones said he thinks the couple could get married “this year” or “after football.” Notably, Travis Kelce did decide to play at least one more year with the Kansas City Chiefs, so “after football” will not also be “this year.” While the singer and athlete getting married doesn’t seem far-fetched, walking down the aisle in 2025 would be wild. However, wild and impossible are two different things.

Plus, there’s plenty of chatter around the potential for this to happen as well. Kelce commented about the best time for a wedding earlier this year (he claims it’s basically anytime but the fall), which felt like he was feeding this rumor beast. Plus, back in December, some thought that seemingly edited party pictures showed that Swift was trying to hide an engagement ring. Not to mention, around the Super Bowl, there was a bunch of talk about whether the tight end would pop the question or not.

Also, with Kelce in the offseason and Swift no longer on tour, they’re schedules are likely more open for big personal events – like oh, I don’t know, a wedding.

So, maybe Stephen A. Smith is on to something, and “Forever & Always” will happen in 2025...

At one point in time, if you said Tina Fey or Amy Poehler, the other name likely wasn’t far behind. From their days on Saturday Night Live as the co-anchors of the Weekend Update, the writers/actresses were a comedy force as their careers intertwined, from Fey and Poehler's touring life to outstanding individual projects, all because their long-standing friendship predated widespread fame. Surprisingly though, the Inside Out star revealed that her standing as a "nepo friend" had a direct impact in her rise to stardom.

While the two Baby Mama costars visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they chatted about the second leg (pun intended) of their Restless Leg Tour as well as all things SNL. Via the show’s YouTube page, the trio of Studio 8H alums launched into their beginnings and how Fallon met the Parks & Recreation star at a sketch show she was a part of (Upright Citizen’s Brigade). After the TV show host recounted the anecdote, he and Fey praised Poehler, saying that her landing on the SNL cast was because of her work.

The Blades of Glory alum was quick to say the reason she bagged the gig was because she had a friend (Fey) on the inside, and wouldn’t stand a chance today, stating:

True to form, The House actress sharing the credit, and love, with her longstanding comedy partner doesn’t come as a surprise. While much of their careers are intertwined and affected by one another, and Fey’s best films and shows overlap with some of the most iconic Amy Poehler movies and TV quotes, both shine just as well on their own. There’s no doubt, at least in my mind, that the Moxie alum would’ve found her way into the historic sketch show, with or without her Sisters costar.

As the upcoming SNL 50 hosts and musical guests continue to light up the historic season on our 2025 TV schedule, we’re heading into a weekend full of special reunion events. Between the Friday night homecoming concert, red carpet Saturday and the actual reunion special, Poehler and Fey are likely to make multiple appearances. The pair is on the top of my list to see during this celebratory weekend and I’d be happy to see them a part of anything, though, my fingers are crossed for a special Weekend Update segment.

Both Wine Country actresses have been busy walking down memory lane at Rockefeller Plaza, though. Fey's impending Four Seasons reboot is slated to premiere on our 2025 Netflix movie and TV schedule while Poehler's life-changing Inside Out franchise continues to make waves for Pixar and Disney. And that’s not even mentioning the Disney Pixar star’s organization she co-founded, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, which aims at helping young people cultivate a future they’d like for themselves.

I think it’s pretty safe to say, that regardless of whether Amy Poehler believes she is a nepo pal or not, she’s more than made a name for herself beyond Tina Fey’s work. And their longstanding friendship seems to be more important to her than how she wound up on SNL all those years ago.

It’s hard to believe The Night Agent Season 2 is finally right around the corner. We went months and months with little to no word about the series outside of a few filming notes and Season 2 location change, but then Netflix dropped a January release date and we were off to the races. Now, series lead Gabriel Basso is finally doing promo for the new season, and he confirmed one cool thing about filming the show I personally didn’t realize: he’s like Tom Cruise filming (the majority) of his own stunts.

During a late night appearance this past week, Basso spoke about the new episodes of the series hitting the Netflix schedule on January 23rd and explained the real reason he feels like it’s important to do as much as he can stunt-wise on the series. It all boils down to him wanting the audience to have an authentic experience:

Basso was talking to Jimmy Fallon in a Tonight Show clip about the upcoming episodes when he waxed about doing his own stuntwork, but we’ve seen him working hard in the past, both in the gym and while filming the series. I find the whole thing pretty admirable.

For example, as the show was wrapping, he shared a pic of an insane “escape” stunt and has shared other moments while on location while filming Season 2 of The Night Agent, as well.

He’s very clear he does as much as he can even when it's painful and he’s not just making the point to sound cool. He thinks when quick cut-tos are utilized, it often feels false, or as he puts it, “like lying.”

There are plenty of stunts that are deemed too dangerous for actors and actresses to attempt themselves, and I’d never begrudge a performer who got some help on a set. On the other hand, if Basso can manage to do at least a large chunk, if not the majority of his own stuff, it does make for a more realistic portrayal onscreen, and may be one of the big reasons the Netflix action-thriller has resonated with audiences so far.

In fact, Netflix is already so bullish on the series the streamer has renewed it for Season 3, so those of you with a Netflix subscription can binge in full confidence of there being more episodes – and I’m hoping it means the Season 2 ending is a doozy as well. We’ll have to wait and see when the show returns in less than a week.

C'mon Netflix, bring on the cliffhangers!

Martin Short is a comedy legend, full stop, no questions. If you need any evidence of that fact, just check out the 2024 TV schedule’s contribution to the Hulu original comedy Only Murders in the Building (which has gotten a number of Golden Globe nominations). But if you were looking for some fresh carnage dealt by the sharp and snarky Canadian-American icon, then prepare to unwrap some fresh hell, courtesy of a clip showing Short roast Jimmy Fallon.

The occasion that brought these two chaps together was the return of one of SCTV’s finest to Saturday Night Live’s hosting duty. And the man didn’t waste time dropping timely references for both Luigi Mangione and the ongoing Diddy scandals in this clip from The Tonight Show’s YouTube channel.

I’m surprised this segment hasn’t been flagged for violating YouTube community standards, as this could metaphorically be considered footage of a brutal murder. But judge for yourself, as you can watch the entire battle of wits and physical comedy below:

You can never go wrong with Mr. Short's brand of smiling jabs, delivered at a rapid pace. This latest round of target practice has me thinking that the upcoming SNL host’s episode could help close out the 2024 TV season in style. And Jimmy Fallon wasn’t the only personality in the crosshairs, as friend and Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin was also subject of good natured ridicule.

On the more serious side, the former SNL cast member did discuss his difficult tenure during one of the series’ most controversial seasons. Describing the program as “nerve wracking,” Short and The Tonight Show’s host bonded over their unique cases of anxiety linked to the comedy institution.

Aficionados of the Lorne Michaels-produced series would agree with the man some know as Ed Grimley. That being said, as you saw in the YouTube posting submitted as evidence, that didn’t put an end to the shenanigans.

Closing out this eventful talk with several comedic brawls over seemingly petty squabbles, the end result only further convinces me that the argument against Mr. Short’s “annoying” schtick continues to be debunked by the man himself.

Fellow Martin Short fans can celebrate his return to SNL this weekend, as it airs live on NBC this Saturday at 11:35pm ET. But if you miss the show as it goes out, you’ll be able to watch the insanity the next day through a Peacock subscription!

Either way, I’d keep a close eye on social media that night, as I find it hard to believe that Steve Martin won’t be making an appearance, as Martin Short had claimed. Seeing as one of SNL’s craziest Christmas sketches featuring the pair is something we’re still talking about, passing up that sort of opportunity would be lunacy.

Let’s face it, along with starring in one of the biggest of 2024 movies, Jenna Ortega absolutely slayed the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice press tour on the fashion front. The actress, who is beloved for previously working with Tim Burton on Netflix’s Wednesday, went full goth for a lot of her public wardrobe lately, and I especially cannot get over how she rocked the chainmail look while discussing how she faced her fears while making horror movies.

When Jenna Ortega stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon recently, she spoke about the first time she was exposed to the horror genre. Her sentiments were quite cerebral, but it's her incredible wardrobe that I can't get over. Check out the video below:

While on the late night show, Jenna Ortega put her own spin on the chainmail trend, which her pal Sabrina Carpenter recently rocked as well along. Chappell Roan sported it a couple of weeks ago as well while accepting her first VMA. Per Women’s Wear Daily, the corset dress is a custom Dion Lee that was styled by Enrique Melendez. What’s particularly gorgeous about it is how the chainmail acts as flattering detailing as it cascades down her chest, almost like a skeleton, and stripes of the material drape along the skirt portion.

The dress was paired with black gloves, pumps and Jenna Ortega’s long flowing black hair. While wearing the outfit, though she had a great story about seeing Child’s Play way too young by accident and getting super creeped out by Chucky. It’s an ironic story for the actress, especially because as she shared, she worked with a lot of practical effects, and even dolls on the set of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. As she quipped, “You’ve got to face your own fears!”

If you’ve been following Jenna Ortega’s career in the past few years you know, she’s faced her fears quite a few times on the set of horror movies. She has starred in two of the latest Scream movies along with Ti West’s X prior to her work with Tim Burton. As Ortega has also spoken to recently, she actually wanted to work with the director years prior when she auditioned for Burton's live-action Dumbo remake and was “gutted” when she did not get the part.

While it’s certainly amazing that the Miller's Girl actress has been able to lead so many scary movies despite her first experience with them, I’m never getting over that chainmail dress. As of late, Jenna Ortega has been super into method dressing for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. With NBC on the verge of bringing its biggest primetime series back in the 2024 TV schedule, the network has made a big decision about the future of its flagship late night talk show. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is having one episode cut per week, matching what NBC had done with Seth Meyers' Late Night already. That doesn't mean Fallon is going anywhere, though.

NBC's Major Cut For The Tonight Show

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon previously aired five new episodes per week, with only the weekends off, but Variety now reports that NBC is cutting that total down to four new episodes per week. New installments will continue airing at 11:35 p.m. ET Monday - Thursday on the network. The move isn't entirely shocking; NBC not only already airs Late Night with Seth Meyers four nights per week, but recently cut Late Night's budget to remove the house band.

Other networks have made similar decisions as well. Over on CBS, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is down to four nights a week, as is Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC. Kimmel recently addressed retirement, which comes not too long after he spoke about the future of late night TV.

Cable late night shows aren't unaffected either; The Daily Show doesn't air new episodes on Fridays, although that's not a new development for the Comedy Central mainstay. NBC will air reruns of The Tonight Show on Fridays in Fallon's usual time slot.

What The Future Holds For Jimmy Fallon

While there may be less new content with Jimmy Fallon per week moving forward, the host himself isn't going anywhere. Back in June, he renewed his deal with NBCUniversal to stay on as host of The Tonight Show through 2028. So, he won't be turning 50 the same year that SNL turns 50 just to leave the network's post-primetime lineup. Seth Meyers also renewed his deal for Late Night through 2028, so NBC is sticking with what evidently works... just less of it per week.

Fallon also has separate gigs on NBC to keep him busy. He executive produces and frequently appears on Password and hosts That's My Jam. It's also possible that cutting a Friday broadcast won't feel too different for him, as The Tonight Show often would tape two episodes on Thursday rather than a new episode on Friday.

At the time of writing, it's not clear when precisely the change to exclusively reruns on Fridays will take place, although it's likely to begin with the fall season. The series is already airing repeats all five days of the week to close out the summer. Jimmy Fallon celebrated his ten-year anniversary as The Tonight Show host back in May with a two-hour primetime special.

Kim Kardashian’s upcoming legal drama All’s Fair from Ryan Murphy may not make it in time for the 2024 TV schedule, but that title is actually quite appropriate for where she is right now in her dating life. If all is indeed fair in love and war, the reality TV star is more about the latter these days, as she seemingly took a shot at ex-husband Kris Humphries — the man on the other side of that infamous 72-day marriage — during a recent interview. Apparently Kardashian's kids know the kind of man they want her to date, and it’s a well she’s dipped into before.

During a segment of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kim Kardashian gave an update on her dating life, saying things are pretty quiet right now, much to the chagrin of her children. The four kids she shares with Kanye West — North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm — would love their mom to find a man, and they’re apparently pretty opinionated. Kardashian said:

As much as I love this subtle dig at Kim Kardashian’s second husband Kris Humpthries, it’s good to know that 8-year-old Saint West hasn’t been Googling his mom’s past relationships. Otherwise he’d know exactly how well dating an NBA player went for his mother the first time around. The American Horror Story star married Humphries in 2011, but that relationship crashed and burned spectacularly in front of the Keeping Up with the Kardashians cameras less than three months after they said “I do.”

The Kardashian-Jenner family members — Khloé Kardashian and Kendall Jenner specifically — have a history of dating professional basketball players, but that’s not the only pool that the Kimye kids will accept for their mother. Kim Kardashian continued:

It’s super cute that Kim Kardashian’s children are supportive of her finding love again, especially with their dad, Kanye West, approaching his second anniversary with Bianca Censori in a few months. Kardashian hasn’t publicly dated anyone since Pete Davidson in 2022, though she was rumored to be with NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this year.

When it comes to love, though, it sounds like Kim Kardashian is more focused on breakups these days, at least for her upcoming series All’s Fair (which will be available in 2025 with a Hulu subscription), where she will play a high-powered divorce attorney. With three divorces under her belt, it’s a topic she’s pretty familiar with, so one can see why she might not be looking to do that again anytime soon.

If that potential fourth marriage does ever come with a pro player, hopefully it lasts longer than her last foray into the NBA.

As one of the most celebrated actresses of her generation and beyond, Emma Stone has proven she can't be bound by genre restrictions, while also proving time and again that she's most at home in the comedy realm. She's following up her Oscar-winning Poor Things performance with the "upsetting and great" Kinds of Kindness, and it seems plausible that fans will see her popping up on Saturday Night Live for what would be her first hosting gig after being welcomed by fellow icons into the sketch series’ esteemed Five Timers Club.

While on the promotional trail for her second team-up with director Yorgos Lanthimos, Stone appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and chatted up its SNL veteran host about her December 2023 induction, saying during the interview that hosting the show has been among the most important experiences she can have. She also talked about a specific rule that celebs are apparently meant to stick to when it comes to their Five Timers Club apparel, which fans might not be aware of. In her words:

While it's possible Lorne Michaels & Co. provide Saturday Night Live's more seasoned hosts with some kind of additional recognition behind the scenes in the form of champagne or a cake, the Five Timers Club jacket has been a part of the festivities for years. Though at the time when the Club was first addressed on the air during Tom Hanks' December 1990 episode, it was slightly different, and was referred to as a club robe.

Regardless of what it’s referred to as, the Five Timers jacket seems like the kind of honor that those who earned it should be allowed to take home to add to their Wearable Trophy collections. And no doubt many viewers believe that to be the case, such as yours truly, though both Emma Stone and Jimmy Fallon make it quite clear that’s not the case. The Tonight Show host even went so far as to refer to the jacket-focused monologue as a “sketch” in and of itself.

As it turns out, Emma Stone did indeed take the jacket to wear out to one of Saturday Night Live's famed afterparties, and The Curse co-star says she didn't return it after that, either. As she put it:

It's almost a sketch-worthy idea to consider Lorne Michaels sending some SNL enforcers to Emma Stone's home to try and re-acquire the Five Timers Club jacket. But assuming that the show's wardrobe department isn't THAT meticulous about maintaining every single piece of clothing, Stone may have gotten away with it. Though that might be her fee for being allowed back to host a sixth time.

For what it's worth, it's not like Saturday Night Live only has a single jacket that gets brought out for each and every new member. Had that been the case, then Kristen Wiig's induction in April 2024 would have looked quite different, for instance, seeing as how it featured jacketed appearances from Paul Rudd (the only actual other member), Matt Damon, Fred Armisen, Will Forte and more, where the whole joke of the bit was that the jackets are essentially worthless at this point.

But nothing about Emma Stone's induction was worthless, as seen in the SNL clip below!

One of the all-time great late night talk show hosts$ of any era, Conan O'Brien stepped away from that TV format with the final episode of TBS' Conan airing in 2021. Now, he's set to make his streaming debut with the four-part travel series Conan O'Brien Must Go, which will arrive for viewers with Max subscriptions on April 18. But before that? It appears as if he’ll be heading back to his old temporary stomping grounds at The Tonight Show.

The last time Conan O’Brien took hit up the Tonight Show stage in person was for the final episode of his short-lived stint as host, which aired in January 2010. Understandably, he wasn’t all that eager to return in the years that followed, considering he left NBC entirely and moved his entertainment empire over to TBS. But according to the talk show-geared LateNighter, he’s set to make his return to the New York studio to promote his new series, with the episode reportedly airing on Tuesday, April 9.

O’Brien’s 2024 return to The Tonight Show technically won’t be the first time audiences see his face during an episode, since he has technically appeared on there via video clip. Back in 2018, the Conan Needs a Friend host helped craft a video with Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert, in response to then-POTUS Donald Trump’s comments about the late night talents, which aired across both the NBC and CBS series.

As many late night enthusiasts will remember, Conan O’Brien was at the center of one of the wildest and most unfortunate transitions for any kind of TV show, when he took over the reins of hosting The Tonight Show from then-exiting comedian Jay Leno. His first episode aired on June 1, and due to a ratings decline and network execs inability to figure out where else to put Jay Leno, they essentially gave O’Brien and his staff a $45 million severance check on January 21, 2010, and the final episode aired the following day.

To the surprise of no one, Conan O’Brien did not return to those hallowed halls as a guest during the next four years with Jay Leno back behind the desk. However, it seems clear that O’Brien’s feelings about Leno didn’t extend to the latter’s successor. He appeared in 2011 on Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night, which the latter took over as host after O’Brien made the leap to the headlining series. (After unsuccessfully trying to change the show’s name to Nighty Night.) Fallon dropped by Conan that same year for his own appearance.

For all intents and purposes, it doesn’t seem like the former Simpsons writer has any bad blood with Fallon, so it’s awesome that Conan O’Brien is back at a place where he’d feel comfortable going back to a place that likely doesn’t inspire the best memories. Here’s hoping Jay Leno does not make a cameo appearance.

Two days after the Tonight Show spot, on April 11, the comedian is set to be honored with a Paley Center special event dubbed “Globetrotting and Podcasting: Conan O’Brien’s Life After Late-Night TV,” which will host a screening of an episode of Conan O’Brien Must Go, followed by an in-person conversation with the host.

Sydney Sweeney is on a tear in Hollywood. Not only has Anyone But You been breaking box office milestones, but she’s also already been in Madame Web this year, and her new movie Immaculate is heading into theaters soon. In the latter film she plays a nun who miraculously ends up pregnant, and Sweeney recently dressed up in the cutest mini dress maybe ever, whereupon she then admitted to Jimmy Fallon that having a fake pregnancy belly on set did have perks. 

Unlike Deadpool’s skintight superhero costume, playing a nun came with a nice hollow space for Sweeney to hide out some snacks. Yes really. During her interview with Jimmy Fallon she noted she took major advantage of playing a pregnant character in a movie. 

I was already amped to be scared thanks to Immaculate's memorable trailer, but this story made me realize how over-the-top and ridiculous the sets of some of the best horror movies can be. It seems Sweeney took it in stride and made the most of playing a pregnant nun, however. She produced the movie herself, and even flew over both of her grandmas to Italy, where Immaculate filmed, and let them appear as extras in the flick. 

She may have gone through a phase where Sour Patch Kids were ever-handy, but I don’t think there’s a place to hide snacks in this gorgeous black and white strapless dress. The look's a little reminiscent of what Halle Bailey wore during her Actors on Actors interview earlier this year, but Sweeney jazzed up her white mini choice with a tighter corset bodice and a bit of black trim at the top. 

Backless dresses and cutouts have been in for the last few years, but honestly, the nice thing about strapless dresses making a comeback is they really do provide support in ways some of the flowier looks that have been fashionable don't. That's a boon to a large swathe of the female population, the actress included. (Ms. Sweeney has spoken about self-image plenty in the past.) It's no wonder actresses such as Rachel Zegler have favored strapless looks in recent months, as well. 

Expect more fun looks to come down in the pipeline in the coming weeks. Immaculate will officially hit the 2024 movies release schedule on March 22, so the actress certainly has a few weeks of press looks and red carpet dresses in her future.   Not a bad way to spend the first part of one's year. 

Studies show that most of us don’t get enough sleep. I can certainly attest to that, but Dakota Johnson recently made headlines for, allegedly, claiming that she likes to sleep 14 hours a night. Most of us could only dream of that, and the 50 Shades actress is now speaking out on the headline, which she says is at least a bit inaccurate.

The initial headline came from The Wall Street Journal, which interviewed the actress and opened with the claim that she slept for 14 hours a day. In the piece, Johnson, who has previously sung the praises of a good bath, does call sleep her "number one priority" and says that when she has a day off, she takes advantage of it. Johnson said...

Johnson did say that she was “not functional” if she got less than 10 hours of sleep. and "can easily go 14." So while she probably does sleep 14 hours sometimes, she doesn't imply that's a common or even a regular thing. However, the story has been picked up by others since then.

Johnson recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon ahead of her major 2024 movie release, leading the cast of Madame Web, the newest entry in Sony's live-action Spider-Verse. where the host brought up the Wall Street Journal headline about the 14 hours of sleep. Johnson says that she never claimed that she does sleep 14 hours a night, simply that, if given the chance, she could and likely would, do so. She explained…

I am firmly on Team Johnson here. While 14 hours might seem long, even for me, I could sleep for an extended period if given the chance, and more than eight hours regularly if schedules allowed. They don’t, of course. We know that during the filming of a movie, actors can be on set for a long time, so 14 hours would be impossible, but there is probably also downtime when she can sleep as long as she wants, at least occasionally.

There's an implication here that there’s something wrong with Dakota Johnson for even wanting to sleep that long, never mind doing it. But sleep is nice, and it’s good for you. The actress shot back at anybody who might be judging her because honestly, it’s nobody else’s business how long she sleeps. She continued…

Celebrities are always under a microscope, with everything they say becoming fodder for criticism. Let Dakota Johnson sleep. There’s no indication that she misses call times or is an unreliable actress, and if she can sleep 14 hours and still do her job, more power to her. If only we were all so lucky.  

Based on everything we know about Madame Web, Johnson's next movie could be quite interesting. She'll likely be working hard doing press for the next couple of weeks, but hopefully afterward she can get some sleep.

Obviously, the best talk show hosts drive the conversation, but every great host needs a great foil and that's where the sidekicks come in. Here's our list of the best sidekicks on talk shows, and how each was used to make the show better. 

Ed McMahon (The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson)

The granddaddy of all talk show sidekicks has to be Ed McMahon. For 30 years, McMahon was Johnny Carson's right-hand man on The Tonight Show. He served as the announcer, coining the famous "Heeeeeeeeere's Johnny!" intro to the show, and he also sat on the couch next to Carson's desk for the entire show, mingling with the guests and laughing at Carson's jokes. 

Paul Schaffer (The Late Show With David Letterman)

Paul Schaffer wasn't the first bandleader to be incorporated into the banter of a talk show, but he was the first to be the bandleader AND sidekick. Schaffer was first the leader and keyboard player for the "World's Most Dangerous Band" on Late Night With David Letterman on NBC, then served the same role in the CBS Orchestra when Letterman switched networks and started The Late Show With David Letterman. He was also the guy Letterman bounced jokes off nightly and was a true sidekick in all senses of the word. 

Andy Richter (Late Night With Conan O'Brien)

When Conan O'Brien took over for David Letterman on Late Night, he brought with him comedian Andy Richter. Or, more accurately, head writer Robert Smigel brought in Richter. He was an important member of the cast for the show's first seven years before departing. He would later rejoin O'Brien on his short-lived stint as host of The Tonight Show and again on Conan for TBS, from 2010 to 2021 when that show ended. 

Geoff Peterson (The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson)

By far the most unique sidekick on this list has to be Geoff Peterson. Geoff, you see, isn't a person, he's a robot. A robot that was actually designed by the late Mythbusters host, Grant Imahara. He was the sidekick on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and he was voiced by Josh Robert Thompson.

Guillermo Rodriguez (Jimmy Kimmel Live!)

Guillermo Rodriguez has to be the least likely person to become a talk show sidekick on this list. Rodriguez started as a security guard at the theater where Jimmy Kimmel Live! is filmed and by complete chance ended up as one of the most beloved people on the show as his appearances became more and more frequent and he got more and more comfortable playing bits in skits and commenting on the show's happenings. 

Questlove/The Roots (The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon)

Jimmy Fallon doesn't really have a traditional sidekick on The Tonight Show, instead, he has a whole band. Sure, Questlove is the most prominent member of the house band, The Roots, in respect to the show, but the whole band plays its part as the host's sidekicks. 

Fred Armisen (Late Night With Seth Meyers)

Seth Meyers has the ultimate sidekick in Fred Armisen on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Not only is Armisen a comedian and SNL vet along with Meyers, but he's also a great musician and as such, is both a comedic foil for Meyers AND his bandleader. 

Chuy Bravo (Chelsea Lately)

Chuy Bravo had an interesting road to fame. Unconfirmed legend has it that he fell in love with acting when the Steve Martin movie Three Amigos was filmed in his village in Mexico when he was young. While that may or may not be true, it still took Bravo years to get into the industry, but when he did, he made the most of it as the sidekick on Chelsea Lately for the show's entire run. Bravo died in 2019. 

Stephen "tWitch" Boss (The Ellen DeGeneres Show)

Stephen "tWitch" Boss tragically died by suicide in 2022 just a few months after the show that helped make him famous, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, went off the air. He was a beloved part of the series, serving as both DJ and sidekick, as well as the occasional guest host when Ellen DeGeneres was on vacation. 

John Melendez (The Tonight Show With Jay Leno)

One wouldn't think that a guy with the nickname "Stuttering John" would make for a good announcer, but John Melendez proved that wrong as the announcer and sidekick on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. In addition to traditional announcer duties, Melendez was often a part of skits and other bits on the show alongside host Jay Leno. 

Regis Philbin (The Joey Bishop Show)

It's almost impossible to imagine Regis Philbin as anything other than a host. The television legend set records in his career doing just that, but he started as Joey Bishop's sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show. Throughout the show's brief run (less than three years), Philbin played the role of the young apprentice to the Rat Pack veteran, often as the butt of Bishop's jokes about his young age (though Philbin was in his mid-30s when the show aired). 

Reggie Watts (The Late Late Show With James Corden)

Reggie Watts has the distinction of being the sidekick on not one, but two shows. First, he served as DJ/band leader on Scott Aukerman's mock talk show Comedy Bang! Bang! and left that show to do the same thing on The Late Late Show With James Cordon in 2015, where he remained until the show ended in 2023. 

Max Weinberg (Late Night With Conan O'Brien)

In 1989 Bruce Springsteen broke up his longtime group, The E Street Band, and drummer Max Weinberg was left in the wilderness. After bobbing around for a while looking for a steady gig, he landed a spot as the bandleader for Late Night With Conan O'Brien. At first, he was just that, in charge of the music, as Andy Richter was the real sidekick. When Richter left the show in 2000, Weinberg started filling that role, in addition to playing drums and leading the band.  

Hannibal Buress (The Eric Andre Show)

As sidekick on The Eric Andre Show, Hannibal Buress was unique. He was expressly disdained by the audience (on purpose) and rather than support host Eric Andre, he was often critical of Andre's performance. Like the whole show, it turned the standard talk show fare on its head and it was brilliant. 

Branford Marsalis (The Tonight Show With Jay Leno)

When Branford Marsalis landed the bandleader job on the new Tonight Show With Jay Leno he was already a world-renowned jazz star. The saxophonist served both as bandleader and sidekick, as Leno didn't have a traditional sidekick. It was that second role that Marsalis came to dislike, and it eventually led him to leave the show after just three years. 

Gene Rayburn (Tonight With Steve Allen)

Tonight with host Steve Allen, which aired in the mid-1950s, was the forerunner to NBC's Tonight Show and it set the template for pretty much all talk shows that followed. That template included announcer Gene Rayburn as a sidekick, participating in comedy skits and banter with the host. 

Steve Wilkos (The Jerry Springer Show)

Steve Wilkos is a different kind of sidekick. As head of security in the heyday of The Jerry Springer Show, Wilkos' main job was to break up the endless fights that happened between guests. He was so prominent that his role evolved into one of foil for host Jerry Springer and he eventually parlayed that into his very own talk show. 

Hugh Downs (Tonight With Jack Parr)

Hugh Downs was ubiquitous on television from the 1940s until his retirement in 1999. His first major exposure came as the announcer and sidekick to host Jack Parr on Tonight With Jack Parr, the second iteration of what would become The Tonight Show. Like other announcers in the show's history, Downs served as a comedic foil to the host. 

Steve Higgins (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon)

The most recent in the long line of announcers/sidekicks on The Tonight Show is Steve Higgins, who has been in the role since Jimmy Fallon took over as host in 2014. Like the others, he's involved in comedy sketches and banter with the host. He previously served the same role when Jimmy Fallon hosted Late Night. 

Jon Batiste (The Late Show With Stephen Colbert)

Following in the path first taken by Branford Marsalis with The Tonight Show, jazz great Jon Batiste was the bandleader and de-facto sidekick for the first seven years on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, before leaving for other career opportunities in 2022. 

"Weird Al" Yankovic (Comedy Bang! Bang!)

"Weird Al" Yankovic needs no introduction. For more than 40 years he's been a legend in the music industry, known for his hilarious parodies of hit songs. Less well-known to the general public was his brief stint as the bandleader and sidekick in the final season of Comedy Bang! Bang! where he brought his trademark surrealism to an already completely surreal show. 

Edd Hall (The Tonight Show With Jay Leno)

Like Ed McMahon before him, Edd Hall served as the announcer for The Tonight Show when Jay Leno took over for the retired Johnny Carson. While he didn't sit on the couch like McMahon, he was an important part of the show, often participating in comedic sketches and bantering with Leno during the monologue. 

Skitch Henderson (Tonight With Steve Allen)

The first bandleader in Tonight Show history was Skitch Henderson, who led the band for both the Steve Allen-headed show and later in the first few years of the Carson-led show. He wasn't as involved as a sidekick as his successors, and in what few clips that survive, didn't seem comfortable in that role. He left in 1966 to pursue a more serious career as a conductor. 

Doc Severinsen (The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson)

The Tonight Show has had a lot of bandleaders over the years, but maybe the most beloved is Doc Severinsen. Severinsen was in the band on the show from the very first iteration with Steve Allen in 1953, until Johnny Carson retired in 1992, for the last 25 years of which, he was the leader. He also assumed sidekick duties when Ed McMahon was out, or both McMahon and Carson were off and there was a guest host. 

Tom Scott (The Chevy Chase Show)

Tom Scott is an incredibly accomplished musician, having played on albums by George Harrison, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, and many more. He also has the unique distinction of being a bandleader/sidekick on two infamous talk shows by celebrities that didn't last. First, The Pat Sajak Show, and second, The Chevy Chase Show. 

Louis Cato (The Late Show With Stephen Colbert)

When Jon Batiste left The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in the summer of 2022, they wasted no time installing fellow Stay Human musician Louis Cato as the new band leader. Cato has a more traditional approach to being a bandleader and is less of a comedic sidekick as a musical one, often performing full songs with the band and with guest musicians. 

Arthur Treacher (The Merv Griffin Show)

When Merv Griffin developed The Merv Griffin Show, he chose Arthur Treacher as his sidekick, who played the part very much like Ed McMahon played it on The Tonight Show. Treacher was a show business veteran, but found his highest degree of fame sitting next to Griffin and bantering on the show. 

Kevin Eubanks (The Tonight Show With Jay Leno)

Jay never never had a traditional sidekick during his long run as host of The Tonight Show, instead, he used his bandleaders, like Kevin Eubanks, as his bantering partner. Eubanks took over from Branford Marsalis in 1995 and remained there until leaving the show in 2010, a few years before Leno retired himself.

Craig Shoemaker (The Magic Hour)

For eight magical weeks in the summer of 1998, NBA superstar Magic Johnson hosted The Magic Hour in first-run syndication. For about the first three of those weeks, his sidekick was comedian Craig Shoemaker. Shoemaker was fired after publicly calling the show "The Titanic." Turns out, he was right, and the show was canceled a few weeks later. 

Glenn Humplik (The Tom Green Show)

One of the weirdest talk shows of all time was The Tom Green Show on MTV. Host Tom Green, who was never afraid to earn an R-rating, picked his sidekick because it was his childhood friend Glenn Humplik, whose main job, it seems, was to just take abuse from Green. Sure, it was funny, but wow, it was pretty denigrating, also. 

Jimmy Vivino (Late Night With Conan O'Brien)

While Max Weinberg was the bandleader for Late Night With Conan O'Brien, he was often away later in the show's run, touring with Bruce Springsteen. On such occasions, Jimmy Vivino took over. Eventually, Weinberg left the show and Vivino took over the role Weinberg had played as the bantering partner for O'Brien. 

Norman Baker (The Wendy Williams Show)

The Wendy Williams Show was unlike anything else, mostly because of Williams' unique personality. She was mostly a one-woman show, but occasionally bantered with the show's producer Norman Baker. 

Every great host needs a great partner, so as long as there are talk shows, there will be sidekicks to joke with. 

It's the big question following Jenna Lyons' breakout debut on The Real Housewives of New York City Season 14: is she coming back next season? 

The Loveseen Lashes founder and former J.Crew creative director was the sole notable name going into the premiere of The Real Housewives of New York reboot last season (which you can catch up on with a Peacock subscription), but was reluctant to be as frank and forthcoming as you'd expect from a reality star having their lives filmed for national television, routinely not wanting to share personal details like her relationship status through the season. 

Rumors of Lyons' future on the series have been swirling ever since RHONY Season 14 ended in October 2023, and now the fashionista has finally addressed the gossip during a visit to visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, November 21. 

"Are you coming back?" the late-night host point-blank asked Lyons, but she initially dodged his directness, replying as if he was asking her to return to The Tonight Show: "When do you want to me come?" But Fallon kept pressing: "No, Real Housewives—are you doing it? Are you doing another season?"

However, based on the applause from the Studio 6B audience, fans are looking forward to seeing more of Lyons on RHONY, one of the best reality TV shows. "They want you to do it. They love you!" Fallon affirmed. 

Lyons also revealed on the late-night show that, despite how "hard" she found filming the reality franchise alongside castmates Jessel Taank, Sai De Silva, Ubah Hussan, Erin Lichy and fave newbie Brynn Whitfield, "people have been lovely" about her and the new cast.

Speculation about Lyons' participation next season, or lack thereof, circulated after the Bravo personality appeared alongside RHONY executive producer Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Notably, Lyons didn't join the rest of the New York Housewives in Las Vegas earlier this month during BravoCon fan convention, the explanation for her absence being that she was "at an event." 

And she also was pointedly missing during a recent reunion dinner of sorts between the RHONY women. On Sunday, November 19, co-star Sai De Silva posted an Instagram Story of the rest of The Real Housewives of New York cast—sans Lyons—out to dinner, with the caption "The cackling hags club,” a reference to a Jessel Taank quote from this past season.

So, is Jenna Lyons in or out of RHONY season 15 when it hits (hopefully) the 2024 TV schedule? We'll all just have to stay tuned!

Kelly Clarkson ruled the early aughts with hit after hit and solidified herself as one of the most successful American Idol contestants in history -- and as one of the most impressive vocalists in recent memory. In the years since, she’s also proven to be a huge music fan in her own right, taking on coaching duties for The Voice and sharing impressive covers of her favorite songs on her eponymous talk show. Despite her extensive knowledge of popular music, she recently revealed that doesn’t know any songs from another turn of the century pop icon, The Backstreet Boys -- and, honestly, I'm trying my best to believe her. 

During a recent visit to The Tonight Show, the 41-year-old singer squared off against host Jimmy Fallon in a game of “Back That Track Up.” During the match, contestants have to race to guess which song is being played backwards. Over the course of the friendly competition, both stars were able to identify some classic hits, including “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran and “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. But both were completely stumped when “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys started playing, and Questlove eventually had to chime in to give the right answer. While Fallon caught on immediately, the "Breakaway" performer still seemed confused – and then she revealed a surprising anecdote about her childhood: 

Okay, so that’s fair – despite the heated debate amongst Millennials over whether Backstreet Boys or *NYSNC were the superior pop group, many of us did choose to sit the conversation out entirely. This is a judgment-free zone for anyone who may not have vibed with “As Long As You Love Me” or “Bye Bye Bye.” Kelly Clarkson made it clear that she thinks the boys are “great,” but then followed up her revelation by saying she wouldn’t have known the group's signature track even if they had played it forward. 

What?! Now that is a little bit shocking. I mean, I wasn’t fully on board with the boy bands that rose to fame in the late 1990s. But despite the fact that I would have preferred to blast Linkin Park on my stereo, I can still admit that I knew - and still know - every single word to “I Want It That Way.” That's because, at least where I grew up, you really couldn’t escape it. The song spent more than half a year on the Billboard charts and peaked at No. 6, so it goes without saying that it was one of the biggest hits at the time. Is it really possible that Kelly Clarkson could've made it to Y2K without hearing the Backstreet Boys? She did grow up in Texas, so she may have had more exposure to other genres, like country music, than top 40 boy band fare. I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it’s pretty mind-blowing to think that one of the biggest pop stars ever didn’t know one of the biggest pop songs ever. 

Even if she wasn’t familiar with BSB until now, that may change soon. Between *NSYNC’s long awaited reunion at the VMAs and the Backstreet Boys gifting fans with their first Christmas album last year, it seems like we’re in the middle of a ‘90s boy band-essaince. So there’s still time for Kelly Clarkson to learn to love the songs that so many of her fellow Millennials grew up with. And if she's looking for a new song to add to the list of Kellyoke covers, I’m just saying – “I Want It That Way” would be a great choice. She would nail the bridge. 

As one of the most famous contestants to win American Idol, Kelly Clarkson has worked with some of the biggest musicians in the world while becoming one of the most beloved stars herself. She has an impressive list of collaborators that she's written with, performed with or worked alongside on The Voice. Interestingly, at one point, Clarkson was essentially in a position to team up with none other than Mariah Carey. However, because she did something "stupid," the singer/TV host blew her chance to work with the acclaimed songstress.

Mariah Carey served on The Voice as the key Advisor for the four teams present on Season 15 in 2018. As anyone would, Kelly Clarkson freaked out over her presence. While appearing on The Tonight Show, the “Breakaway” singer recalled a specific conversation she had with Carey and revealed she ended up being confused by a sentiment the "Emotions" performer shared. Clarkson broke down the story, and it sounds painfully awkward (and relatable):

Apparently, she was so fixed on her personal creative process that she didn't even realize Mariah Carey was subtly extending an invitation to work together. I honestly don’t blame the media personality for acting the way she did, because it’s Mariah Carey. Many of us have likely had those moments in which we blurted out something due to nervousness or just a simple misunderstanding. Honestly, it’s also kind of comforting to know that even a celebrity of her caliber still gets starstruck. Of course, now that the two are a few years removed from that moment, I'd like them to reconnect and make something happen. A collaboration between the two stars could be absolutely amazing!

Kelly Clarkson has been a fan of the Christmas icon for years. While on The Tonight Show, she said that “Vision of Love” was the first song she ever did for a talent show or audition when she was little. She was a very brave kid to take on such a track at such a young age. Then again, that does just add further credit to the notion that Clarkson is a fearless person and has major love for her fellow singer. She went on to further clarify what she was trying to say and also sent a message to the "Without You" singer:

A collaboration between the two may not be in the cards right now, but it could happen down the road. In the meantime, fans could, at the very least, see the "Since U Been Gone" performer pay homage to her idol. With The Kelly Clarkson Show returning, that means much more “Kellyoke” (which was being performed live) on the way, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the host chose yet another Mariah Carey track to cover. With the holiday season approaching, it would be the perfect time for Clarkson to belt out her rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You," which inspired a movie. But of course, let's cross our fingers that the two manage to link up again and craft a new song -- and that Clarkson doesn't have any further awkward encounters with any fellow A-listers.

In the meantime, both artists remain busy. Tickets are now on sale for Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas One and All! tour, which is set to kick off on November 15 in California and end in New York on December 17. And following the end of the WGA writers’ strike, The Kelly Clarkson Show is set to drop its long-awaited Season 5 premiere this Monday, October 16 as part of the 2023 TV schedule.

After The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was hit with allegations of toxicity in the workplace earlier this year, many fans and observers wondered what would happen next. Would Jimmy Fallon step down from his role as the host? Would he be fired? The fact that The Tonight Show is not currently in production adds an extra layer of complexity to the situation. But, it looks like - at least for now - Fallon has plans to move forward with The Tonight Show.

There have been some reports that NBC executives are eager to remove Jimmy Fallon from his The Tonight Show hosting duties. However, according to Radar Online, sources familiar with the current situation say the rumors that NBC is looking for a replacement for the long-time host are not true. His current contract with the NBC late-night talk show is set to expire in 2026.

In early September, Rolling Stone reported on several allegations surrounding The Tonight Show’s toxic workplace environment. In the days that followed, there was a flurry of activity from those who work on The Tonight Show and those who were named in the report. Shortly after the Rolling Stone report was released, Fallon reportedly apologized to The Tonight Show staff during a Zoom phone call, telling employees that he was embarrassed and that he wanted the show to be fun and inclusive to everyone. 

As fans online dug up past clips of Fallon’s less-flattering moments, more details surrounding the allegations came from former Tonight Show guests and the network. Stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld refuted one allegation, saying that he remembered the incident – in which Fallon allegedly berated a crew member in front of Seinfeld – much differently than it was characterized in the Rolling Stone story. In an official statement, NBC stated that any incidents reported to the network by employees have been investigated and dealt with (via The New York Times). 

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is not currently in production, as all WGA writers are currently striking for fair wages and benefits. That strike has been another source of controversy for the host. In May, after he publicly expressed support for the strike, one staff member questioned Fallon’s authenticity, and they said The Tonight Show was not going to pay the striking writers or maintain their benefits as long as other late-night programs were. However, Fallon has since teamed up with fellow late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, John Oliver and Stephen Colbert to host the Strike Force Five podcast, which was created to raise awareness about the strike and raise money to support their striking employees. 

Given everything that has happened since the strike began, it’s hard to predict what it will be like on set when The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is able to resume production. But it’s safe to say that, unless something significant changes before then, Fallon himself will still be at the helm. Despite largely coming across as one of the goofier and most affable late night hosts — one who landed his own theme park ride (at the heart of a 2022 lawsuit), no less — Jimmy Fallon was the subject of a scathing report alleging toxic workplace behavior at The Tonight Show, with claims made by a variety of former and current employees. Fallon certainly isn’t the first TV host to be called out by staffers for problematic behavior behind the scenes, and an expert on the matter, The Late Shift and The War for Late Night author Bill Carter, shared a lengthy essay that addresses why this kind of troublesome situation happens more often than viewers might think. 

The blowback from the Jimmy Fallon report has been pretty widespread, with past clips of celebs like Martin Short criticizing the host resurfacing and being enjoyed anew. In his opinion piece for The New York Times, Bill Carter compared the late night host’s stumble from public grace to the myriad rumors and claims made about Ellen DeGeneres and that allegedly toxic work environment in the final years of her daytime talk show, which led to producers being fired. In his mind, TV hosts' endless charm will often be balanced by complete shifts in mood. Here's how he put it:

Carter spoke further to the why he thinks hosts like Jimmy Fallon (and David Letterman before him) start leaning into slightly more megalomaniacal behavior behind the scenes when the cameras aren't around, while continuing to maintain a genial personality that viewers feel is authentic as the day is long. In his words:

Many business owners whose names are part of the brand likely feel similar kinds of pressure to fight to keep consumers happy, even if it comes at the cost of employee contentment. A late night talk show is obviously different from a local hardware store or something of that nature, but with the similar need to thrive amongst the competition. 

Bill Carter pointed out that this kind of stress isn't present behind the curtains of every late night talk show, those who do experience that pressure often don't stick around for the long haul. As he put it:

While The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has gone through its share of EPs and showrunners, The Tonight Show is relatively well-known at this point for having a revolving door of writers, producers and showrunners coming and going in the years since Fallon took over as host. That speaks why so many former staffers were available to make their allegations public in the initial report. 

The report dropped right around the same time Fallon, Colbert, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel and John Oliver debuted the podcast Strike Force Five, which centers on the fivesome's group conversations that started up following the onset of the WGA writers strike, with proceeds going to the out-of-work late night staffers. I wonder what Bill Carter thinks about that combined effort compared to the more cutthroat days of Letterman vs. Leno. 

Despite the fact that a writer’s strike has put a stop to all late-night talk shows, they are very much in the news right now. A profile of the workplace culture on the set of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon recently suggested the show isn’t the best place to work, laying the blame on Jimmy Fallon himself. While the Tonight Show host has apologized and promised to improve things, some have suggested that Conan O’Brien should get the show back. This lead to an old clip resurfacing and going viral.

The clip shows Conan speaking with a little girl who apparently loves to dance, but when she’s too nervous about dancing for him, he dances for her, much to the joy of all involved. Except for the girl, who gives him a pretty harsh review, but O’Brien takes it all in stride. Check it out.

 As the post points out, O’Brien was able to quickly pivot when he realized this kid was nervous, which is just something you might not expect every late-night host to notice, or be able to handle with the smoothness that he does here. He makes the kid feel better and is still able to make entertaining television for the people watching.

30 years ago yesterday was the anniversary of the first episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. And that, combined with people suggesting that Conan was never given a fair shake as Tonight Show host and should be given another shot if he were so inclined, has made Conan one of the most talked about people on social media right now. While Fallon is dealing with something of a PR nightmare regarding alleged questionable behavior behind the scenes of his show, it seems nobody has anything bad to say about Conan.

Of course, actually seeing Conan host the Tonight Show would seem to be the longest of shots. He ended his TBS talk show, Conan, in 2021, and while the show may have been a casualty of the pandemic rather than ending on his own terms, O’Brien has moved on to other projects, so he’s certainly not looking for work. 

But it’s hard to argue that Conan O’Brien wasn’t great. He certainly had a unique take on the late-night format, but one that resonated with many people. And by all accounts, he really was a great guy to work for, which is just lovely to hear. And the Tonight Show situation, where he got pushed out after finally being given the gig, just kinda sucked.

Some of Jimmy Fallon's coworkers have defended the host, but Fallon has promised to do better himself, and when the show eventually returns to production after the writer’s strike comes to an end, there will likely be many eyes on him to be sure that actually happens. 

As The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon remains on pause along with other late-night programs due to the WGA writers strike, the titular host has been making headlines. It was nearly a week ago that Fallon was accused of contributing to a toxic work environment on the set of his show. He’s reportedly apologized to his staff since the allegations surfaced and, amid the backlash, some have stepped forward to defend him. Ahead of the controversy, Fallon, Stephen Colbert and other hosts teamed up for a strike-era podcast. And ironically, it was on the same day the exposé dropped that Colbert discussed how the episodes are meant to help staffers.  

The two media personalities – along with Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and John Oliver – are currently participating in Strike Force Five. It’s a podcast series in which the quintet of TV presenters discuss their experiences during the ongoing Hollywood strikes. As explained by Stephen Colbert last week, the series was actually Kimmel’s brainchild. The notion of hearing these TV vets discuss their experiences is intriguing, but what’s particularly awesome about this endeavor is that it’s done to support writers who are currently on strike. While discussing that very fact on the very same day his co-host was hit with accusations, Colbert said the following: 

It’s admittedly very admirable that the five media pundits assembled for a worthy cause such as this. At this time, a number of writers (and actors) find themselves in tough positions due to the current professional climate. The Late Show host’s comments seem to suggest that he and his cohorts want to lend a hand to their colleagues and others during this time. And simultaneously, they’re hoping agreements are made between both the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and the studios so that work can begin again as usual. 

You can’t help but wonder what the energy at The Tonight Show will look like when work finally picks up again. Staffers accused Jimmy Fallon of lashing out at co-workers when under pressure and alleged that those remarks combined with other work stresses caused their mental health to deteriorate. Kimmel reportedly addressed the claims while talking to his staff during a Zoom meeting, and he apologized for putting so much attention on his staff and their loved ones. 

But as mentioned, some have countered those assertions, saying that they do not accurately portray the host or the workplace. The SNL alum received praise from an unnamed producer, who’s worked with him “on a daily basis.” The Tonight Show staffer also talked about delivering bad news to the host. On that matter, they said that while the comic can apparently “stick to his guns” at times, he’s an “empathetic” person who “hears other people’s opinions.” Additionally, Jerry Seinfeld defended him by refuting a story about the host allegedly deriding a staffer.

Though he’s since lent his support to the writers, Jimmy Fallon was called out, with an employee claiming he wasn’t providing active assistance to staffers who were out of work. The claims should be taken seriously, though much of the buzz surrounding Fallon, is up for speculation. What appears to be evident right now, though, is that like Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and co., Fallon is looking to assist his writers and more through their podcast.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has been making headlines as of late due to a number of reports about how it's supposedly run. More than a dozen employees took part in an exposé, in which they claimed the titular host had fostered a negative workplace environment. According to reports, Fallon has since apologized to his staff over the accusations. While a number of employees painted a less-than-flattering portrait of his character, others have stepped forward to defend him in the aftermath of the story. One staffer, while doing just that, shared what it’s like delivering bad news to Fallon. 

Several of the 48-year-old TV personality’s colleagues, who remained anonymous, got incredibly candid while sharing positive thoughts on his character and work ethic. DailyMail.com spoke with four employees, one of which is a producer who’s reportedly worked on the late-night NBC show for more than two years. The individual stated that they “work closely” with Jimmy Fallon and that like others on staff, the host is “very energized and excited about creating a very positive workplace.” From there, they recalled sharing bad news with Fallon and discussed how he allegedly processes other people’s opinions: 

When employees spoke to Rolling Stone for the outlet’s wide-ranging story, they stated that the work environment at The Tonight Show had taken a toll on their mental health. In addition, they claimed that when under pressure, the host would lash out at employees. The comments that the reported producer went on to share with Daily Mail, however, suggest that those allegations are not reflective of the former SNL star’s character or his workplace. When it comes to the host’s interactions with others, the staffer said:

Employees aren’t the only people who’ve stepped forward to show support for Jimmy Fallon during this time. Jerry Seinfeld also defended Fallon over an alleged incident brought up within the allegations. A source in Rolling Stone’s story claimed that during an appearance on the show, Seinfeld scolded Fallon for getting snippy with an employee. However, the veteran comedian shot down the claim, calling it an “idiotic twisting of events.” 

Still, as mentioned, Jimmy Fallon reportedly issued an apology to his staff during a Zoom meeting. He allegedly called the situation “embarrassing” and said “I feel so bad,” before apologizing for bringing negative attention to the staffers and their loved ones. Fallon reportedly stated that the show should be “fun” and “inclusive” for everyone. The Tonight Show is currently not in production due to the ongoing WGA writers strike (and Fallon was called out during the strike for claiming to support writers). While public opinion on the host may seem varied at the moment, it would appear, though, that he still has a number of people in his corner.
