Saturday Night Live is a television institution, and a dream job for countless comedians. The sketch show (which is streaming with a Peacock subscription) has created many stars, including Bowen Yang, who earned 5 Emmy nominations during his tenure on the show. And he recently recalled the way fellow alum Tina Fey supported him in his post SNL career, specifically the Las Culturistas Culture Awards.

For ten years now, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers have hosted the Las Culturistas Podcast, which is a deep dive on pop culture and their personal lives. In 2022 they introduced a spoof Awards Show called the The Culture Awards, with the last two years being televised on Bravo and Peacock. In a video from The Wall Street Journal, the Wedding Banquet star shared a story about Fey related to the Culture Awards, starting with:

While televised and star-studded, The Culture Awards are ultimately one hilarious gag. Categories include "Best Vibe Hands Down", "The Allison Williams Cool Girl Award" and "Most Beautiful Name for a Daughter You Haven't Even Thought of Yet". So while Bowen Yang left SNL, he's still been busy writing laugh-out-loud bits for us to enjoy.

Later in the clip, Yang revealed how Tina Fey propped him up about The Culture Awards. The faux Awards Show has become legitimate in her eyes, as he revealed:

Touché. And since Tina Fey has hosted the Golden Globes so many times, she knows a thing or two about Awards Shows. While The Las Culturistas Culture Awards are indeed a tongue-in-cheek evening, it has become a star-studded even that people end up taking seriously. And in that way it's just like every other Awards Show.

While Yang departed SNL, he's kept super busy and Las Culturistas continues to be a wildly popular podcast. He and co-host Matt Rogers are also going to write a book The Rules of Culture, Volume 1, further cementing the pod's place in the entertainment world. And I'm hoping we're getting a third televised Culture Awards next year.

The Las Culturistas Culture Awards are streaming over on Peacock as part of the 2026 TV schedule. He's also part of the voice cat for the new Cat in the Hat movie, which will hit theaters November 6th.

How is Lindsay Lohan already 40? She absolutely doesn’t look it, and her career has been thriving more than ever, between making the big bucks with Freakier Friday last summer and having an upcoming miniseries with Shailene Woodley. The actress took some time to reflect on her life so far in time for the milestone, and a couple of her Mean Girls co-stars jumped in to show her some love, too.

Lohan’s official birthday is July 2, and I can’t believe the movie star is already saying goodbye to her 30s! Check out what she posted on social media:

Turning 40 is a big deal, and Lindsay Lohan decided to spend some time thinking about what each decade of her life has meant for her so far. Per the actress, being in her 30s was a huge deal for her between getting married, becoming a mother and having the “full-circle moment” of starring in Freakier Friday.

Back in her 20s, she characterizes herself back then as a “girl still figuring herself out”. At the tail end of that decade, Lohan actually decided to leave Hollywood for Dubai because she “wasn’t having fun in the business anymore” and wanted to “live” a “real life”. When looking back at her childhood, where things all started for her as a child actor notably with her movie debut in The Parent Trap, she calls the time "quietly finding pieces of myself". Here’s what she wrote as she looks ahead to the next decade:

It sounds like 40 is going to be the best decade yet for Lindsay Lohan. In the post, she also talked about there being “so much” she still wants to create before predicting that her “best chapters” are the ones she’s “stepping into”. Jonathan Bennett is of course Cady's love interest Aaron Samuels and Daniel Franzese plays one of Cady's friends, Damian Leigh in Mean Girls. Although it’s been over 20 years since their movie came out, it’s great to see these two wishing Lindsay Lohan a happy birthday on such a big one.

Her The Parent Trap co-star Elaine Hendrix, who had a cameo in Freakier Friday and is currently smack dab in the middle of her fifties, and also wished her longtime friend well on her birthday. In her words:

We can’t wait to see what Lindsay Lohan does in her fourth decade. Her next project is a miniseries called Count My Lies, which we’re hoping to see land a release date on the 2026 TV schedule soon.

Throughout its 51-season run, Saturday Night Live has produced some pretty heavy hitters. One of those stars is Tina Fey, who got her start on SNL as both a writer and cast member. Her duties also included Weekend Update anchor, and she was just brutally reminded about how long it’s been since her first segment as anchor.

Fey took over the Weekend Update desk in 2000 at the start of Season 26 alongside Jimmy Fallon after Colin Quinn left. She would go on to do Weekend Update for six years, four years with Fallon and two with Amy Poehler. Fey is arguably one of the best Weekend Update anchors, and while her SNL tenure is long over, the show will always hold a special place in her heart. It’s just crazy knowing just how long ago it was, as she was shown a clip from her first Weekend Update on Today. Honestly, it looks like she’s still trying to process just how long it's been:

It’s crazy to think about how long it’s been since Fey made her Weekend Update debut, but I don’t think anyone is as mind-blown as her. Twenty-six years is definitely a long time, and I can’t even imagine what her reaction will be when the 30^th anniversary hits for her.

Fey has made quite the mark on SNL, so much so that she’s been asked about replacing Lorne Michaels whenever he decides to take a step back and retire. But no matter how many projects she does, her stint on Weekend Update will always be a favorite, even if it’s been 26 years.

At the very least, while it’s been 18 years since Fey left Weekend Update, it hasn’t been that long since she returned to the desk. Over the years, the 30 Rock creator has returned to SNL to either host or do a surprise cameo, whether it’s a Five-Timers Club sketch or stopping by the Weekend Update desk. In fact, Fey, Poehler, and Seth Meyers participated in a surprise joke-off in October during Season 51 with current anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che, and it was like nothing had changed.

Meanwhile, the comedian may be as busy as ever with other projects, but she always manages to still make time for SNL, as evidenced by her cameos. She also hosted the very first episode of SNL UK earlier this year, and she’s definitely overdue for a return to Studio 8H as host. As of now, Season 52 hosts and musical guests have not been announced, but more details on the new season should be revealed later this summer.

It’s unknown when Fey will make her next return to the Weekend Update desk, but fans can always watch her in all episodes of Saturday Night Live with a Peacock subscription. Season 51 will be premiering later this year on NBC.

The return of The Four Seasons to the 2026 TV schedule is one of the big reasons I’m grateful to have a Netflix subscription. When the series first premiered this time last year, I had a blast getting to know the group of funny and relatable fifty-somethings on their seasonal vacations. Now that Season 2 of The Four Seasons is here, I already hope it’s the kind of show we get a lot more of, and its cast and creators thankfully feel the same way.

When I sat down with the stars and showrunners of the show in its second season, I had a glaring question that seemed so obvious that I had to ask it. It’s only right that a show that’s called The Four Seasons should get four seasons, don’t you think? Here’s what Tina Fey thinks about CinemaBlend’s query:

It’s either The Four Seasons or The Four Seasons² – there’s no in between! Tracey Wigfield, who is also one of the show’s creators alongside Fey and Lang Fisher, also showed support for four seasons of The Four Seasons. In her words:

When The Four Seasons first started, it was marketed as a miniseries. But, as Wigfield also told us in our interview, they “always” thought of the idea as a continuous show that could go on for multiple seasons. After Season 1 ended with the big reveal of Ginny being pregnant with Nick’s baby, Season 2 also leaves some questions open-ended for the creators to build upon in a third season. Erika Henningsen (who plays Ginny) said this about the show's potential:

Clearly everyone involved in The Four Seasons loves working on the show and would like to continue. Kerri Kenney-Silver, who plays Anne, added this:

It definitely helps that the series is full of very funny people and allows them to go to various beautiful destinations together. During our chat with some of the cast, they couldn’t stop gushing about getting to go to Claude’s homeland in the Italian Alps this time around.

After finishing The Four Seasons Season 2, I know I’m curious about what’s next for Claude and Danny after they decided to leave Italy to take care of Danny’s mother. I also want to know how Anne’s dating life post-Nick will fare after this past season, and I’m always entertained by Kate and Jack’s relationship. Plus, will we get another flashback episode for Steve Carell’s Nick? There are so many possibilities, and I know I’ll be holding my breath for a third-season renewal announcement!

Spoilers for Season 2 of The Four Seasons are ahead!

One of the best new shows to watch with a Netflix subscription last year was Tina Fey’s dramedy The Four Seasons. Since it stars a bunch of funny people alongside Fey, like Will Forte and Steve Carell, a lot of viewers (including myself) really didn’t see it coming when Carell’s character Nick unexpectedly died in Episode 7 of Season 1. Since the show was renewed for Season 2 after the big pregnancy cliffhanger, we knew we were going to miss the actor in the show, but the showrunners found a way to bring him back.

Now that Season 2 has come out on the 2026 TV schedule, we know that Steve Carell’s Nick makes a comeback in Episode 7, “Little Thanksgiving.” It’s a flashback episode set in 2020 where the group of friends comes together to enjoy the holidays after dealing with isolation and social distancing all year. When CinemaBlend spoke to Tina Fey about bringing Carell back to the show, here’s what she had to say:

When Tina Fey was promoting the first season of The Four Seasons, she shared a funny anecdote about how when Carell learned he was going to die in the show, he reacted by saying, “Why does this keep happening to me?” Fey had no idea that a similar thing had recently happened to him on The Morning Show, too. So, perhaps bringing him back was partially driven by guilt. But then again, obviously, if you can have Steve Carell in your show, it feels like you should.

As I pointed out to The Four Seasons showrunner and star, she had joked about bringing the character back as a ghost or zombie, but ultimately, what made sense for the show was a flashback episode. As she added:

In the episode, we learn that prior to Nick and Anne’s divorce (which we saw start to take shape in Season 1), Nick had flirted with an extramarital affair with a woman that he ultimately ended once he was found out. It really shot Anne’s confidence, which she’s been living with for quite some time. One especially memorable moment in the episode is when Anne almost decides to leave Nick, but can’t bring herself to. Fey spoke to that scene with these words:

After the ending of Season 1, I know that I didn’t expect to see Steve Carell back in the show, but it was really welcome, and I loved learning more about the backstory of The Four Seasons friend group. Tina Fey and the other showrunners definitely found a great way to bring Nick back in a way that made complete sense.

The Saturday Night Live season just ended; so, as per usual, we’re all having a conversation about Lorne Michaels’ future. The creator and longtime showrunner has repeatedly said he has no plans on leaving the show, but given he’s over eighty and SNL remains a major pop culture force, it’s still a hot topic of conversation every summer. As arguably the fan favorite to replace Michaels, former head writer Tina Fey was recently asked for her take, and her answer has me thinking a lot about how she would change the show.

Before we get to that though, let’s talk about Fey’s answer, or more specifically, her non-answer. She sat down for an interview with Watch Mojo about the second season of The Four Seasons, the Netflix show she co-created and serves as the showrunner for. During the chat, all that showrunning experience was referenced, and she was asked if she’s the likely successor for Michaels. Here’s the diplomatic take she gave…

There’s obviously almost nothing to that answer. Whether she wants to take over SNL or not, she’s far too thoughtful and experienced to say that in an interview. Plus, I genuinely think she really likes Lorne, feels like it’s his show and wants him to run it as long as he can. In fact, I think that’s how pretty much everyone who has worked on SNL feels. It’s his baby. He’s still doing a good job, and he should decide what his exit plan looks like.

That being said, there was more to Fey’s answer. She also talked about her experience as a showrunner…

Now, by all accounts, SNL has a fantastic crew and is staffed by really nice people. I certainly don’t think her comments were in anyway a reference to those working on the show she was a huge part of for so long. That being said, I do think the wanting everyone to have “a good time at work” part is really interesting and a possible clue as to what Fey might change if she ever were to take over for Michaels.

SNL is a live show that comments on popular culture and geopolitical events that take place the same week or even the same day as the episode. There is always going to be late nights and some stress involved, but Fey and many, many others who have worked on SNL have been open in the past about how chaotic and bizarre the schedule can be.

Most writers and cast members do very little prep work heading into the week, and there is an expectation that you work well into the night as pitches are being prepared. Fey has talked openly in the past about some of her frustrations with the set-up, and a lot of great cast members and writers have left over the years, specifically because of burnout or a frustration with the schedule, which is pretty much the same as it’s been since the 1970s.

I have to think, given these comments and plenty of other ones she’s made in the past, that if Fey ever took over SNL, she would take a hard look at how the week is structured. It’s never going to be the same as working on a more traditional show, but it seems like there could be ways to update how it’s put together that would help people find at least a slightly better work life balance.

Or maybe not? I’m not inside Fey’s head, and none of us, except maybe Lorne Michaels, know what the succession plan even looks like. His biographer has long speculated that he’ll never retire and instead just give up little bits of responsibility to make it more manageable. Maybe that’s what we’ll see. Or maybe he’ll just wake up one morning and decide he’s done. If that happens, maybe Fey would get the job or maybe it would go to someone like Colin Jost (or Seth Meyers or maybe Kenan Thompson), who also has head writer experience and is more directly connected to the current show. We’ll see.

Regardless, expect to hear plenty more about Michaels’ future this summer, as well as plenty of conversations about which cast members may or may not be returning. The season finale didn’t have any obvious goodbyes; so, everyone’s status is pretty much up in the air, except for Ashley Padilla, who is quickly turning into the show’s biggest star.

The NBA Playoffs have been in full swing for well over a month now, and fans have been filling arenas to root on their favorite teams. Timothée Chalamet has even been hitting up games, as he’s been rooting on the New York Knicks. During his outings to Madison Square Garden, the Oscar nominee has also rubbed shoulders with a number of other stars, and he recently sat next to Tina Fey at a game. Chalamet’s “manspreading” became the subject of social media jokes, and even the Kelce brothers just had to ask Fey about it.

While promoting the latest season of Netflix’s The Four Seasons, Fey paid a visit to Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast to discuss the show and a myriad of other topics. The conversation soon turned to the viral “manspreading” conversation, which involved Chalamet stretching out his legs while sitting in his seat. And to his left, Fey seemingly appeared to be crossing her legs in an attempt to maintain some space. Fey explained (as can be seen in an X clip) how she really felt about the seating arrangement:

Leave it to Tina Fey to add another humorous layer to this situation. For starters, she made it clear that the Dune star was lovely and, even now, there’s no bad blood there. What was downright hilarious, though, was the iconic Saturday Night Live star arguing that her “big ‘ol can” was also a factor to consider as far as seating went. I don’t know what I love more: Fey’s rationale or the way in which the Kelces erupt into laughter upon hearing the argument. As for her standing with Chalamet, Fey also had this to say:

It’s honestly been hard to ignore Timothèe Chalamet during this NBA postseason, as he continues to prove just how big a Knicks fan he is. The past few years have actually seen the fan-favorite actor becoming something of a staple at MSG. We’ve even reached the point at which people are asking diehard Knicks supporter Spike Lee if Chalamet might be his “super fan” successor. Of course, the Marty Supreme actor has made it clear that he’s not looking to take any kind of title away from Lee.

This season has been particularly eventful for Chalamet, and I’m not just saying that due to the Knicks just having punched their ticket to the NBA Finals. Many have taken notice of his presence at the games, and several moments involving his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner – who was also present during the “manspreading” situation – have gone viral. On that note, an insider even alleged that Chalamet might propose to Jenner if the Knicks manage to bring home the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy.

Of course, fans should take that proposal tidbit with a massive grain of salt. What I’m glad about, though, is to have firm confirmation that Tina Fey isn’t feeling a way about Timothèe Chalamet’s “manspreading".” If anything, I hope to see these two alongside each other at least one more time when the Finals start airing amid the 2026 TV schedule.

One of my favorite new shows of 2025 was definitely Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons. With my Netflix subscription, I binged the heck out of this dramedy about a group of friends in their 50s. Still, when I saw that the second season would premiere as part of the 2026 TV schedule I had a moment where I questioned how the show could be returning so quickly in a TV landscape where series can have two-year hiatuses at minimum. So CinemaBlend just had to ask series star/creator Tina Fey and her colleagues about that relatively quick turnaround.

During my recent conversation with the creators of The Four Seasons, we discussed the novelty of streaming show returning in a relatively prompt amount of time. Fey explained how the creative process for the first season factored into the making of the second season:

I love to see it! Tina Fey very much comes from the world of network TV, where it's historically been normal for shows to return every single year. And, of course, before that, she worked on Saturday Night Live, where the turnaround was even tighter. However, as she explained, one reason they really wanted to get moving on Season 2 was to allow for Ginny’s pregnancy plotline to play out like it was happening in real time. As co-creator Lang Fisher added:

The Four Seasons Season 1 left viewers with two big bombs. Steve Carell’s character, Nick, unexpectedly dies and, when the friends and his partner, Ginny, reunite for his funeral, Ginny reveals she’s pregnant with the late hedge fun manager's baby. When we pick up with the gang this season, Ginny is hanging with them again for another one of their vacations, this time to spread Nick’s ashes. Co-creator Tracey Wigfield said this about getting the new season off the ground so soon:

I totally agree with her! And, if Four Seasons had been on hiatus for two to three years like a lot of my other shows, the momentum of curiosity for what happens with these friends on their quarterly vacations just wouldn’t be the same. Because of this release method, I truly feel like I’m catching up with this group in real time rather than feeling like I need a big refresher at the start of the new season.

Joining Tina Fey on the show are Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Erika Henningsen. Fans can see all eight episodes of Four Seasons Season 2 when they hit Netflix on Thursday, May 28. Here's also hoping the show's producers stick to the trend of releasing a new season yearly.

Saturday Night Live’s 51^st season just closed out its run on the 2026 TV schedule, and it ended on a pretty strong note with Will Ferrell hosting and Paul McCartney as the musical guest. The entire season had strong hosts, with there being a mixture of first-timers and veterans. One of the first-time hosts was Colman Domingo who gave a great showing and shared a touching speech at the end of the episode in April. Before all that, though, Tina Fey apparently sent him a sweet text, and I'm smiling over how mom-coded it is.

It was announced in late March that Domingo had been tapped to host the April 11th episode of NBC's long-running sketch comedy show. While the Emmy winner and Oscar nominee has had an extensive career, his SNL gig obviously signified new territory for him. As Domingo recently recalled to The Hollywood Reporter, though, he was fortunate to have Fey in his corner:

After hearing this story about how Fey texted Domingo and wanted to help him, I can't help but love the Five-Timers Club member more. On top of that, this text actually came after she herself hosted the first episode of SNL UK, so she wasn't too far off from being in Domingo's shoes. What I also love about this story is that in the text, Fey openly acknowledges the mom-like aspect of this. Honestly, I'd expect nothing less from the beloved comedian (who's actually a mom to two kids).

Despite Fey thinking her offer sounded too Mom-like, Domingo actually did take her up on it. He ended up texting her for advice and getting feedback on sketch ideas throughout the week. Not only that, but Fey was also in the room for the table read and was in the audience at the live taping. It goes without saying that Fey has plenty of experience with the inner workings of Saturday Night Live, considering her nine-season stint as a cast member. All in all, I applaud her for wanting to share her knowledge.

It’s also worth mentioning that Tina Fey and Colman Domingo have a prior working relationship. She cast him in her Netflix series, The Four Seasons, in which she also stars. As mentioned in Domingo's THR profile, the two formed a strong bond while working together. And, as of right now, they're looking towards the imminent release of Season 2, for which Domingo directed the premiere.

As for as SNL goes, I'd now hope that Domingo would seek to pay it forward in the event that someone he knows taps their first SNL hosting gig. Considering Domingo's persona, I could definitely see him going full dad mode in a way that mirrors Fey's mom-esque tendencies.

Fashion isn’t usually the most popular topic of conversation after Saturday Night Live episodes, but sometimes when you see an absolutely amazing jacket, you just have to stop what you’re doing and talk about it. At least that’s how I feel after seeing Tina Fey’s fit last night. The former SNL cast member and head writer made a surprise appearance on the long-running sketch comedy show last night, and she had on the best coat I’ve ever seen, which just so happened to be made out of Paddington Bear’s dead body.

You know how celebrities always wear those distinct jackets during SNL’s Five-Timers Club sketches? They’re made of velvet and kind of look like a play on a smoking jacket or a robe. Well, Jonah Hill, Candice Bergen and Melissa McCarthy, who also appeared in the sketch, had on the classic version of those.

Fey, however, had on a far bloodier version. Her jacket had fur on it and the number one instead of five. Host Jack Black, who was being honored, asked her why hers looked different, and she said it was what she got for guest hosting the new SNL UK once. She said it looked like that because it’s made out of Paddington Bear and turned around to reveal this…

I’m not a fur coat guy. I’ve never owned a mink and don’t think it’s likely I will at any point in my life, but if someone offered me this beauty, I’d have to empty out my wallet. It’s one of the most visually-striking things I’ve ever seen, and it also lets everyone know you murdered a beloved children’s character in the name of fashion.

In all seriousness though, this was a great way for Fey to plug SNL UK. She hosted the premiere episode a few weeks ago, and during it, she appeared in a sketch about a Live Paddington Bear Experience. In it, children and influencers thought they were going to meet Paddington Bear, but it turned out to be a real bear who killed several of them. This jacket is a great nod to that sketch and also a good reminder that if you haven’t checked out SNL UK, you’re missing out. It’s got a distinctly British sense of humor, but that’s most definitely to its benefit.

SNL will return with a new episode hosted by Colman Domingo next week. The show hasn’t announced the celebrity guest hosts that will follow him for the rest of the season, but it’s unlikely we’ll get another Five-Timers Club sketch. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that whenever that does happen, Fey finds a way to bring back this jacket. It’s too good to give back to the prop department and leave in a closet forever.

The UK version of Saturday Night Live officially premiered last night, and to help get it over with the general public, the show decided to bring in a ringer during Tina Fey’s monologue. Because she’s American and because Americans often need the British stamp of approval to get over with British audiences, they knew they’d need a little extra something. So, they turned to the Irishman who has been doing it for decades: Graham Norton.

The popular comedian and talk show host joined Fey during the second half of her monologue in order to hilariously help her. He brought up how much British television she watched as a child and gave her a series of rapid-fire shows to impersonate. From Monty Python to Fawlty Towers to East Enders, she rolled off a half dozen or so in quick succession to the delight of the crowd. You can watch the sequence below…

They played up the pandering angle with Norton, but those who watch the American version of Saturday Night Live won’t be shocked to see the other celebrities in the audience. That Q&A style monologue featuring unexpected favorites in the crowd is used on a semi-regular basis, and it’s always an easy hit with fans who love seeing who might pop up next. This time we got Nicola Coughlan and Michael Cera, but the British-centric possibilities are really endless.

Ultimately, that’s the rub here. We know the Saturday Night Live format works. It has been churning out popular sketch comedy for more than fifty years, and it has produced dozens of stars who have gone on to have huge Hollywood careers. There’s a long history of sketch comedy in Britain, but for SNL UK to work, it needs to feel British. It needs to be funny to British people in a uniquely British way.

Reviews have been mixed on whether the first episode was able to do that. There are numerous tweets from celebrities, journalists and members of the general public talking about how episode one was better than expected. There was certainly a British flair to it all and a lot of deep cut references and celebrity impersonations that were clearly conceived and written by a British writing staff. That being said, there are also plenty of tweets from viewers talking about how they didn’t enjoy the show or felt the reboot would never work over the long haul.

The initial plan for SNL UK is to give it an eight episode run. Like the American version, each episode will feature a different celebrity host. Now that Tina Fey had her turn, we’re getting Jamie Dornan and Riz Ahmed. The rest of the hosts will be announced at a later date. I’m optimistic it’s going to work, but we’ll see.

The most successful and long-last sketch series in all of entertainment, Saturday Night Live is once again attempting to spread its wings and expand in the form of a brand-new spinoff set on the other side of the planet. Saturday Night Live UK aims to deliver the same skewed and satirical comedic approach to British life as the original does for the U.S.

With an all-new set of cast members that seemingly won't cross over with the U.S. group at any point, the new series is set to debut soon, and fans around the world will be able to stream it, depending on one's specific location.

In The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, NBC’s newest comedy on the 2026 TV schedule, Daniel Radcliffe plays a documentarian named Arthur who is tasked with filming the life of Tracy Morgan’s titular character. However, it’s quickly revealed that he has a complex past like the guy he’s documenting, and we get to learn about it through hilarious BTS footage of a fake Marvel movie. It turns out that action-packed sequence starring the Harry Potter actor was executive producer Tina Fey’s idea, and thank goodness the actor had some stunt training to pull it off.

In the pilot of Reggie Dinkins, it’s revealed that Arthur got an offer to direct a Marvel movie after winning an Oscar. However, “he couldn’t handle the pressure” of the superhero flick, he freaked out, and he “tanked the whole project.” Tragically for Arutur, and thankfully for us, there’s footage of his meltdown. And it involved Daniel Radcliffe’s character absolutely losing it while a guy hung in the air surrounded by tennis balls. According to co-creators Sam Means and Robert Carlock, this hilarious moment all happened because of Tina Fey, too, as they explained:

• Sam Means: Speaking of Tina's role in this show, we actually filmed a totally different version of that originally.
• Robert Carlock: It was really just the meltdown. It was just the kind of the breakdown.
• Sam Means: And it was great, because Daniel's great, and he totally committed, and it was all good. But it just wasn't as fun, you know?

Fey was determined to make it more fun, and that’s what led to moments like Radcliffe whacking the tennis balls aggressively with a racquet and then hilariously falling off the stage. That is one of the reasons why Radcliffe’s stunt training came in handy. Speaking to all of that, Carlock told me:

Well, Radcliffe’s Harry Potter stunt work certainly came in handy here, seeing as when he worked on the Wizarding World films, he fell off a roof, and in this show, he had to fall off a platform.

While I’m sure his days on Reggie Dinkins weren’t nearly as “intense” and “crazy” as Harry Potter in the action department, the moment on this fake movie set is quite action-packed. So, I’m sure everyone involved with this scene was happy he had the training in his back pocket.

I’m also happy Tina Fey came up with this idea for the show that’s set in the 30 Rock universe, because the moment is so funny. It gives us insight into Arthur’s past in an extra and unexpected way, and it gives Radcliffe a chance to show off some of his other skills as a performer. In fact, this all worked out so well that it will come up again in the show, as Carlock explained:

Well, get ready for that, folks, because I’m sure it’s going to be just as funny as that first scene we got to see of Arthur’s Marvel movie meltdown. And it’ll be exciting to see the other version of this breakdown that was filmed before Fey came in with her pitch.

Tuesday is the famous all-night writing marathon ahead of every new SNL episode, but the week actually begins with a pitch meeting on Monday morning. It’s the first chance for the writers and cast members to vibe with the host and start getting positive feedback on ideas. Some, like Tina Fey, bring legitimate ideas. Others, like Conan O’Brien, do not.

I was listening to an old episode of Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend earlier this week, and in it, Tina and Conan discussed the process of writing for SNL. I’d heard Fey’s quote about how the system was designed by people on cocaine and is now executed by people not on cocaine before, but I’d never heard their entire conversation. It is fascinating, and mostly because they talk about that Monday pitch meeting and how some people are really into it and some are not.

Not surprisingly, Tina was into it. She would write out ideas ahead of the meeting every week for the host and mark each as being with type or against type. Also not surprisingly, Conan was not into this meeting. He would just make up an idea on the spot, and they would always involve the same location. Here’s how he described it…

The theme of the larger conversation was basically about how no one, even those who are more responsible, work ahead of time. No one is writing sketches on their weeks off. They’re all scrambling at the last minute, and that scrambling either starts before the Monday morning pitch meeting or it starts after your fake pitch comes to nothing and you need to write a new sketch on Tuesday. It must be wild for the upcoming hosts and musical guests coming into the chaos, but it also sounds like no one is called to the dreaded 17 (aka Lorne Michaels' office) because of lack of enthusiasm.

It’s no surprise that people often burn out working at Saturday Night Live. It’s a really common reason writers and Not Ready For Primetime Players cite when they finally leave the show, but there’s something about that chaos that does bring the best out of people. Many famous people who worked at the show have talked about how intensely creative they were during those weeks when everyone is scrambling to come up with ideas on really tight deadlines.

It’s also a great place to meet other incredibly funny people since the show is constantly hiring really talented people. Both Fey and O’Brien have worked throughout their career on projects with people that also came up through the SNL pipeline, either while they were there or during another era entirely.

Fortunately for Conan, his blimp ideas may have been repeatedly rejected by the hosts, but he ultimately got to feature a real life blimp when TBS launched one to advertise his show after he left NBC. It’s the type of success story we all dream of.

With the end of the 2025 TV schedule, Tracy Morgan is just a couple of months away from returning to NBC. The former SNL star is on board for The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, scheduled to arrive in February of the 2026 TV schedule with a stacked cast. With 30 Rock creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock on the creative team, it's only natural that Reggie Dinkins is set in the same universe as the show that was arguably Morgan's big break into scripted TV. Easter eggs are on the way, and one specific nod to 30 Rock has already been confirmed.

For The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, Tracy Morgan plays a disgraced football player by the name of – what else? – Reggie Dinkins, who wants to rehab his image after a gambling scandal that led to the downfall of the New York Jets. His approach? Recruiting an award-winning filmmaker to produce a documentary about him. The cast also includes Daniel Radcliffe, SNL's Bobby Moynihan, Erika Alexander, Precious Way, and Jalyn Hall. Morgan's fellow 30 Rock vets are behind the scenes, with co-showrunner Robert Carlock co-creating Reggie Dinkins and Tina Fey credited as an executive producer.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the new series, Tina Fey previewed the nods to one of the best sitcoms in NBC history that are on the way:

Broadcast network television isn't quite as popular nowadays as it was back in the 30 Rock era, so Reggie Dinkins might need to recruit some viewers to tune in weekly on NBC. (Then again, there will be the option of watching with a Peacock subscription next day.) Personally, I'm already crossing my fingers for "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" to play at some point in the background of Reggie's life as an ode to 30 Rock, but Robert Carlock previewed an Easter egg that ties to Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy:

While timing for Tina Fey with filming Four Seasons' second season for Netflix meant that a cameo couldn't work out for Reggie Dinkins, there's still hope for other references to 30 Rock. Carlock went on to name a few ideas:

A reference to The Girly Show seems like a great nod to 30 Rock for fans of the original to enjoy without necessarily making Reggie Dinkins newcomers feel like they're missing something. Who knows? With 30 Rock available streaming both on Peacock and via a Hulu subscription, perhaps the OG sitcom will have a renaissance. As for any continuity issues with Tracy Morgan playing an entirely different character within the same TV world, co-creator Sam Means simply clarified that "Reggie just happens to look a lot like Tracy Jordan."

The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will premiere on Monday, February 23 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC before shifting to its permanent time slot at 8:30 p.m. ET on Mondays the next week. While that may seem like a long wait, most of NBC's February lineup consists of broadcasting the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The opening ceremony is on February 6, and the closing ceremony takes place on February 22.

Anytime a former Weekend Update anchor hosts Saturday Night Live, there’s an anticipation that they might bust out their church clothes and make an appearance behind the desk to read a few jokes. As such, it wasn’t a surprise to see Amy Poehler join Colin Jost and Michael Che this week, but it certainly was a surprise to see multiple other ex-Weekend Update anchors join her for a joke-off.

That’s right. This week featured a good old fashioned joke off between Jost, Che, Poehler and special guests Tina Fey and Seth Meyers. Both Fey and Meyers, of course, were co-anchors alongside Poehler at various points during her tenure; so, the cameos made a lot of sense, even if they were unexpected.

The joke-off set-up was a woman in Tennessee breaking a hospital record by having a thirteen pound baby, and to the surprise of no one, her massive kid proved to be good subject matter for a lot of rapid fire jokes. You watch all the current and former anchors in action below…

Together, these five all place in the top six of total episodes anchoring or co-anchoring Weekend Update. Jost is first with 226 episodes, followed by Che with 219 episodes, followed by Meyers with 154 episodes, followed by Fey with 118 episodes, followed by Poehler with 80 episodes. Only Dennis Miller slots into the above with 111 episodes, though I suppose we should give Jimmy Fallon a shout-out, as well, as he’s tied with Poehler’s 80 episodes.

In addition to being a bit of good fun, this Weekend Update segment is also a good reminder of how similar, yet different the segment can be under different anchors. The basic conceit of reading news stories like a traditional anchor and telling jokes about them has never changed since Chevy Chase launched the segment back in the 1970s, but the tone, subject matter and delivery can change quite a bit with the sensibilities of each anchor.

This current version of Weekend Update has represented the longest period of stability in the long-running segment’s history. Jost and Che have shared the duties for more than ten consecutive seasons, which has never happened before. Exactly how much longer that stability will last, however, is an open question. Rumors swirled near the end of last season that Jost might walk away over the summer, and there were similar whispers about Che, as well. The two are no longer head writers on the show, and with plenty of opportunities for each outside SNL, many fans thought they’d walk away.

Fortunately, they did not. They’re back for another season. At some point soon-ish, however, they’ll exit Studio 8H, and it’ll be fascinating to see whether showrunner Lorne Michaels and company pick someone currently on the cast or bring in someone new. Either way, they’ll evolve the segment to their own tastes, and we’ll get a new and exciting take on the old classic to watch.

The rest of Poehler’s episode was, of course, great. There was even an A+ spoof for a Hunting Wives Season 2 trailer, which featured a cameo from Aubrey Plaza. I’d highly recommend throwing the whole thing up on Peacock or via your DVR and giving it a watch. The show will return next week with an all new episode featuring upcoming guest host Sabrina Carpenter, who, more than likely, will not read the news on Weekend Update.

Most longtime Saturday Night Live writers and cast members can point to a sketch that got away. When asked in interviews, they talk about something they always wanted to get on the air that showrunner Lorne Michaels never picked. Tina Fey recently flipped the question on its head, however, and talked about a sketch she wishes didn’t get on the air.

The former Weekend Update host and head writer appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and said she sometimes watches old SNL sketches that will air at random with her kids on Peacock. She said it’s made her realize that, in retrospect, there are sketches she wishes never got on the air. When pushed for an example, she cited Pregnant In The Butt.

Yes, Tina Fey wrote a sketch about a woman that gets pregnant in her butt and then goes to the baby shower and has to tell her entire family she’s having a butt baby. Here’s a portion of her quote…

Now, the thing to know about JB Smoove is numerous cast members have called him the greatest pitch man in the history of the show. He would apparently absolutely kill with ideas every single week during the Monday pitch meeting, but then often times his sketches wouldn’t actually make the show because they would be considered too weird or complicated. Former cast members still talk about his bangers though, like a family of helicopter pilots that duck down really low and shout at each other or a detective that solves cases by drinking people’s urine samples and getting clues from how they taste.

Unfortunately, the butt baby sketch didn’t go as well as planned. Despite containing outrageous lines like we wanted to do a water birth but we couldn’t find a pool that would let us, the audience was mostly silent during the entire sketch. In fact, some reruns of the episode don’t even include the sketch on account of how hard it bombed. Fortunately, it’s floating around on social media. It stars Amy Poehler as the lucky mother, and Jason Lee as her husband who can’t figure out how it happened.

Many of the best SNL sketches live right there on that line between, as Spinal Tap would say, stupid and clever. A bit about a song needing more cowbell can go down as an all-time classic, and another about getting pregnant in the butt can be a regret for everyone involved. You just don’t entirely know whether the magic will be there until it airs.

Fortunately for Fey, she’s widely considered one of the greatest SNL writers in the history of the show and had plenty of sketches that went very, very well. So, she might remember Pregnant In The Butt, but fans remember all-time classics like Mom Jeans.

The Four Seasons was definitely one of the more popular 2025 Netflix releases, given that the streaming service greenlit Season 2 less than two weeks after the show came out. In a recent interview, Tina Fey revealed that she and the writers’ room are already hard at work on the new season, and she addressed the Steve Carell-sized hole in our hearts.

In a legitimately shocking moment in episode 7 of The Four Seasons, we learn that Steve Carell’s Nick has died in a car accident while on a skiing trip with his much younger girlfriend Ginny and her friends, whom he was avoiding by FaceTiming his own friend group and playing an iPad game. Since the renewal of The Four Seasons, I’ve been bummed about Carell not being able to come back, but wait… could he through flashbacks? Here’s what Tina Fey said:

While talking to Deadline, Fey remained cryptic regarding whether there could be more for Carell’s Nick after she chose to kill off his character. The show’s co-creator and star did say that the next season will once again follow the same characters and the same format of them being on vacation as a friend group during a specific season. While discussing The Office actor, she did make this grand declaration about Nick’s death:

While I’m absolutely mourning Steve Carell not being a regular in The Four Seasons, from my estimations (though I’m holding out hope for a flashback episode), the death clearly is weighing on the SNL alum. Carell is just so likable, she’s got to be getting flak left and right over the decision. What’s even better is how the Crazy, Stupid Love star reacted to the Season 2 renewal. In Fey’s words:

While I'm bummed by all this, I’ll also admit it was a great story decision, and actually a great change from the original movie, especially in terms of where the ending left things. In the final moments of The Four Seasons, Nick’s friends are reminiscing over him after his funeral service went awry. When they go to toast him, Ginny doesn’t grab a drink, and we learn she’s actually pregnant with his child. I think this allows for a lot of potential between the group of friends, especially between Ginny and Nick’s ex-wife, Anne.

I imagine the baby situation will mean that Ginny will join Nick’s friend group, and perhaps bring up some wounds in the other couples regarding their late friend and parenthood itself. I’ll go so far as to say, if Nick’s death was Fey’s “biggest” mistake, she’s doing rather well for herself. I can’t wait to see Season 2 with my Netflix subscription!

There’s already been a lot of great new TV shows on the 2025 Netflix release calendar, but my favorite I’ve caught up with has to be The Four Seasons. I’ve always loved Tina Fey’s brand of comedy, and she really brought it with her comedy also starring the talented Steve Carell, Will Forte, and Colman Domingo (who we need in more comedic roles now). After the series became a big hit with those with a Netflix subscription, Season 2 is coming, and Fey has just let us in a big detail about what to expect.

I’m sure you’ve been as curious about this as I am. Will Season 2 once again follow the same characters as they go on four different vacations during each season of the year? Here’s what Tina Fey had to say:

I’m so happy to hear this news from Fey’s new interview with Deadline. As she shared, there’s something special about the series only taking place during the friend group’s vacations when they are all together rather than being at any other time in their lives. However, as she pointed out, this has apparently been a point of contention from fans who don’t find the premise realistic. As she continued:

She makes a great point. It’s not like the friend group goes on The White Lotus-style destinations in every season. The only major vacation was the one in summer, otherwise they were visiting each other and doing a little ski weekend over the holidays. While I’ll admit the thought definitely crossed my mind when I started the first season, I felt like the show did a good job of balancing the occasions across the year for the characters being followed. And it even made some great changes from the original movie it’s based on.

Ever since I watched the The Four Seasons' ending, I had ideas about how the show could continue, especially in light of all that went down the first time around. SPOILER ALERT: Steve Carell’s character of Nick dies at the end of the show and after the friend group struggles to give him a meaningful funeral service, we learn his girlfriend is pregnant with his child. I’m so curious how this piece of news will change the dynamic of the group, and how each of the couples will evolve.

Fey said she has been working on Season 2 for “about a month” already, so she’s certainly already working hard on what’s next.

I need to start out by saying, I have started watching but have not yet managed to finish Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons with my Netflix subscription yet. I was planning to binge the whole thing over the weekend and have something more formal finished by today, but I've found I can only manage an episode or two of this show at a time. However, it’s the type of show that’s been sticking with me in a way that I find notable and realistic, but also makes me stressed out about hitting middle age. It’s a case of love the show, hate the way it makes me feel. Let's talk it out.

I recently hit my late thirties, so I’m not exactly the same age as the likes of Tina Fey, Will Forte, Colman Domingo and co. However, I’m not exactly a spring chicken at this point either. I feel like I'm always hitting my health insurance deductible now, and some mornings I wake up and my neck is just not working correctly. Add to that the various stresses of owning a house and a yard I have to take care of, and I’m no longer adulting. I’m a straight up adult with all the complications that entails.

So, in a lot of ways The Four Seasons is targeted right at me, or at least right at the me I'll be in the near future. It’s about a group of friends who have been pals for a long time, but who are going through new struggles in a changing time of life. They have the partners, the careers and the cool homes and cars, but they’ve kind of lost their way in their personal lives. I get this doesn’t sound like a comedy, but it has Tina Fey's great observational wit in a lot of moments, and it's funny and charming in others.

I’d give the remake of the Alan Alda film a thumbs up. I just don't know if I like the way it makes me feel.

The Four Seasons Is Sticking With Me, But I’m Not Sure I Can Recommend It

I spent my 20s really trying to get ahead: ahead in my career, ahead of debt, etc. It felt like there were goals and purpose to my life, but so far in The Four Seasons it’s sort of pointing out the ennui that has settled in in more recent years in a way that causes me as much stress as it causes me amusement.

There’s a conversation early on in The Four Seasons when Danny (Steve Carell) talks about how he feels stuck in his relationship with his wife Anne (Kerri Kenney). He says he’s tried patience and tried to get her into returning to beloved activities, even building a kiln in their backyard so she can do pottery, but nothing has stuck. Instead, she just putszes around on her phone, and he can’t stand it. In fact, he can't stand her.

It's a great monologue from Carell, but the bigger point, I think, is how real the dialogue feels, and it honestly makes me confront all the depressing stuff I see in my real day-to-day life, like when I go out with friends who are constantly on their phones, Or feel stuck in the same repetitive behavioral loop over and over again. Or even when friends know there are problems but can't communicate them. It's great, well-executed stuff, and it's leaving me feeling like a disheveled mess at basically every turn. It's no wonder I can only watch one episode at a time.

I do love that The Four Seasons is formatted in such a way that we just catch up with the group of friends across a period of four seasons, exactly as the title implies. It's a neat way to tie a story together with a bow, and should continue to be a great format in the future. The acting performances are also top-notch (though I'd basically watch Will Forte in anything anyway), and I like that Alan Alda gets a cameo. So I'm happy I checked out the Netflix schedule and turned the new series on... at least, I think.

This year has been one for uncomfortable content for me. I also recently watched Friendship, which made me uncomfortable in a less realism-based way. This type of content may be becoming a new trend, and I'm not sure how much I can get behind it, but I'll need to get on board because the Netflix show has already been renewed for Season 2.

Anyway, The Four Seasons is great. Just don't go into it expecting a barrel of laughs, friends.

It’s only been a few weeks since Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons TV show landed on Netflix, but I’m one of the millions of viewers who gobbled it up when it landed on the 2025 TV schedule. Now, thanks to all that viewership, it’s already been greenlit for a second season. Personally, I’m excited and already have some ideas about how I want to see the dramedy continue. However, it is a big bummer that Steve Carell probably won’t get to be part of it, considering his character died before the end of the season. I was curious about how the actor thinks about it, and his reaction did not disappoint.

When Tina Fey spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the shocking plot point at the end of The Four Seasons, she revealed that Steve Carell wasn’t too happy about what happens to his character, Nick, either. Here’s how she recalled it:

Steve Carell is such a popular and lovable guy that, for some reason, I thought he’d brush off the reveal since it frees up his schedule to work on other projects. However, as it turns out, he was as disappointed as I was. And, what makes it worse, is that one of the other great shows he was on, Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, also had his character, Mitch Kessler, die unexpectedly at the end of Season 2.

As Tina Fey shared, she had no idea that this wasn’t Steve Carell’s first rodeo when it comes to finding out a TV character of his would be dying, and it only made things worse when she let him know about what happens to Nick. While I’m still in shock over how nevermind one writer, but two, would kill off the actor in their show, she did share why they found it necessary for the project with these words:

I know when the moment happened late in the season, I was really surprised because Steve Carell’s character was so central to The Four Seasons, and had a lot going on plot-wise when he suddenly dies.

He was in the middle of a ski trip with his younger girlfriend Ginny, and having a rocky time there because he felt out of place with her friends. He had just called his group of longtime friends and had a sweet visit with them, before playing the iPad game that he once scoffed at his ex-wife for playing. While it seemed like the show could get into these threads more, it instead decided to remind us that death can come out of nowhere, no matter what’s going on in one’s life.

However, while he's gone, Nick will likely be a character of note in Season 2, given the first season ended with Ginny revealing she’s pregnant with his child. We do wonder if it will explore Ginny more prominently next season. It’s just sad we won’t get to see more of Steve Carell’s Nick.

I think a lot of us have found the latest of the best shows to binge watch on Netflix: Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons miniseries! I devoured the comedy in just a couple of sittings, and I already want more. Following the ending, I need to talk about why I’m betting on a second season, and what I think it could be about.

The Four Seasons Ending Felt Like A Cliffhanger To Me

I was flabbergasted that the show killed off Steve Carell’s Nick, but the plot point allowed for the series to really end on an emotional note that empowered the friend group to appreciate what they have and not be so hard on his girlfriend, Ginny. In fact, there’s a sweet scene where Nick’s ex-wife Anne gets to bond with her and make amends. But the real jaw-dropper was when it was revealed that Ginny is pregnant with Nick’s baby.

Since the last moment of the show ends with Anne announcing the news before a quick fade to black, I can’t help but think the creators intended it to leave me wanting more in the first place. And, I did a little digging on what they had to say about a possible Season 2. As co-creator Tracey Wigfield told TV Insider:

I Think The Ending Leaves Room For Season 2 To Explore A New Theme For The Friend Group

The Four Seasons wasn’t as close to The White Lotus as I thought, while we wait for Season 4 (but I also didn’t know it was based on one of the movies from the 80s), and we knew it wouldn’t be an anthology, but i do think it could pull a little something from that series. This season of the show I felt was really focused on romantic relationships, and how they can really shift with time. As Nick and Anne’s relationship falls apart, the other two couples are really tested regarding their own partnerships, and there’s a running discussion around “working” at a marriage.

I think since Ginny being pregnant is the big reveal in the ending, the next batch of four seasons between the friend group could focus on their relationship with parenthood and kids. Ginny will be getting ready to be a mom for the first time, while Anne will be continuing to parent her daughter now as a single mother. Then there’s Jack and Kate, who have a daughter as well, who didn’t play a role in the first season, and Danny and Claude, who specifically discussed being happy they don’t have kids so far. I could see Ginny getting pregnant being a real fire starter for these parenting conversations to be discussed, and it would, of course, put them in more funny situations.

We'll be on the lookout for info on a potential second season. Until then check out what other 2025 Netflix releases are on the way.

This week, April comes to an end, and May gets started. While this likely means temperatures are going up and people are looking to spend a little less time in front of the television, your favorite streaming services are certainly going their best to keep us on the couch.

From brand new films to classic franchises, the movie content coming in May is solid. We will, of course, get three new episodes of Andor this week, but that’s not the end of the Star Wars goodness, as there’s also some excellent new Star Wars content for May the Fourth. Here’s a look at what’s hitting streaming this week.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - May 1 (Disney+)

Spider-Man is the one Marvel character the studio still doesn’t completely own the movie rights to, but thanks to a deal with Sony, most of the live-action Spidey movies can now be found on Disney+. Starting May 1, the Spider-Verse grows even larger with the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse makes the jump from Netflix to Disney+.

Another Simple Favor - May 1 (Prime Video)

A Simple Favor was one of those simple, character-driven dramas that occasionally surprises with its level of success. Despite a solid box office return, the sequel, which will see both Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick return, will only be available with a Prime Video subscription.

The Four Seasons - May 1 (Netflix)

In The Four Seasons, three couples who vacation together go through major life changes over the course of one year. Based on the hit 1981 film written, directed, and starring Alan Alda, this adaptation reimagined for Netflix the story as a limited series and boasts an incredible cast including Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, and Will Forte.

Ocean's Franchise - May 1 (Netflix)

With reports that George Clooney and Brad Pitt may be looking to get the team back together for another Oceans 11 sequel, now may be a great time to revisit the original series. All three previous Oceans movies hit Netflix this week.

Black Bag - May 2 (Peacock)

Based on Black Bag's meager box office take, you probably didn't see it. But based on Black Bag's reviews, this spy thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett from the incomparable Steven Soderbergh is a movie you absolutely should see. If you've got a Peacock subscription, you can do exactly that this week.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge & Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance | Disneyland® Resort - May 4 (Disney+)

May the Fourth is celebrated as Star Wars Day, and Disney+ usually adds something from the franchise as a way to celebrate. This year, we’ll get the animated Star Wars: Tales From the Underworld, but far more interestingly, this week, a Disney+ subscription will get you a virtual walk-through video of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, as well as a full ride-through of the incredible Rise of the Resistance attraction. One can only hope this will be the first of a new breed of Disney Parks content on Disney+ that will let us experience rides when we're not in the parks.

Conan O'Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor - May 4 (Netflix)

Conan O’Brien stole the show at the Oscars this year, and his performance as host was so popular he’s already set to return next year. It’s as good a time as any for Conan O’Brien to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor from the Kennedy Center. You’ll be able to watch the whole show with your Netflix subscription.

Next week, two popular series return. Fans of Conan O'Brien will get even more of him when his travel show Conan O'Brien Must Go returns, and the long wait for Season 2 of Natasha Lyonne's Poker Face finally comes to an end.

Before Colin Jost and Michael Che hosted Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live, Seth Meyers hosted between 2006 and 2014. He also served as a writer and one of the longest-lasting SNL cast members on the variety sketch series, beginning in 2001. Having worked at SNL for well over a decade, he’s certainly written a lot of sketches, but he apparently only wrote five that he knew would work. Now, he has finally revealed one of them.

While taking questions from audience members in a TikTok for Late Night with Seth Meyers, one fan asked the host what his favorite SNL sketch was. After getting clarification that the answer could be either for a sketch that he performed or wrote, he went on to tell a story involving Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. With them, he knew he had a hit on his hands, despite being pretty nervous about it, as he said:

Both Poehler and Fey have portrayed Clinton and Palin on more than one occasion, and to this day, these sketches remain some of the most memorable. In fact, the sketch "Sarah Palin and Hillary Address the Nation" is considered one of SNL's best cold opens.

So, I think Seth Meyers' victorious feelings about the sketch he wrote both before and after it happened were warranted.

If I had to guess which specific Palin/Clinton sketch the late-night host was referencing, I'd put my money on "Sarah Palin and Hillary Address the Nation." The sketch aired in 2008 during the Season 34 premiere. It featured Poehler as Clinton and Fey as Palin as they addressed the American public about sexism, the 2008 presidential election, global warming, and their many disagreements. The video currently has 6 million views on YouTube, and at the time, it was highly talked about.

However, there's also a chance he was speaking about any of the other times the two women took the stage as the political figures too.

Now, I want to know the other four sketches he knew would kill. However, he didn't divulge that information...yet.

Meyers has, however, returned to the Weekend Update desk for the SNL50: The Anniversary Special, and it was like nothing had changed. He still occasionally talks about SNL too on Late Night, including telling a story about working with Kermit the Frog and punching a hole in his office wall. And I would give anything to get a whole book about his experience.

Since Meyers frequently takes questions from his studio audience at Late Night with Seth Meyers, it’s very likely there will be more stories to come about his days at SNL. Hopefully, that means we'll learn more about these five sketches at some point. However, in the meantime, you can watch both Late Night and SNL as they air on the 2025 TV schedule on NBC or with a Peacock subscription.

Lorne Michaels and Saturday Night Live have hosted some of the biggest names in Hollywood since its 1975 inception. With a slew of A-list cast members and hosts alike, the run of five decades and counting is riddled with humorous stories. Among the endless tales is that time when Tina Fey checked in with Michaels about Jon Hamm’s vibe. Specifically, she wanted to know whether or not he’d be a good fit for 30 Rock.

Both Fey and Hamm have plenty of projects in the works and slated for our 2025 Netflix schedule and 2025 TV guide, respectively. One of the Mad Men alum’s titles arrive first, with Your Friends & Neighbors rapidly approaching among the upcoming Apple TV shows. He joined Tina Fey and Interview Magazine to recount highlights of his career, including his low-key vetting for 30 Rock that was tied to his inaugural time hosting the historic late-night show. She revealed that the two hadn’t met and she checked in with Michaels if Hamm checked all the right boxes:

Clearly, the Landman series actor got the stamp of approval from the two comedy legends, and rightfully so. The body of work he has to show for himself proves he’s a talent across the board. And for that reason, he’s the next on the list of scheduled hosts and musical guests for SNL’s big 50th season (along with the April 11 premiere of his Apple drama).

Hamm jumped in to agree with the Four Seasons series creator, restating simply that it’s not great to work with people who aren’t easygoing.

It’s great to hear that their time together on 30 Rock was as fun as it looked, and just bolsters the reasons why the show remains one of the best sitcoms. Fey elaborated, revealing it’s a non-negotiable preference because it’s more important to enjoy what you can:

It’s great that both stars have continued to grow over the years, and each of them has worked that boundary into their careers. It may be more apparent in Fey’s resume, which next includes her upcoming Four Seasons show (which will be watchable with a Netflix subscription). Steve Carrell, Colman Domingo, and Will Forte seem like dream casting. But finding out that she and a handful of other 30 Rock alums are behind the coming Tracy Morgan/Daniel Radcliffe project really speaks to her process.

I wonder how Jon Hamm feels to have had the early stamp of approval from Fey and Michaels. Surely he was pleased, especially since he passed the aforementioned duo's "Make sure you weren’t a dick" test.

Tina Fey has been in the comedy world for a long time. From her start doing improv in Chicago, to being a cast member and head writer at Saturday Night Live, to 30 Rock and beyond, the Emmy winner has become an icon of the genre. Even with her success, she’s never shy to credit others who helped shape her career like Lorne Michaels or Amy Poehler. Now, Fey has revealed a quip by Steve Martin that has stuck with her in both positive and negative ways, and how it shaped her view on public appearances.

The SNL Five-Timer sat down on Amy Poehler’s new podcast, Good Hang, to promote her new Netflix show, The Four Seasons. The two comedy legends chatted about their changing perspectives as they’ve become prominent figures in their field and told stories about their SNL days and other creative projects. Fey specifically mentioned Steve Martin and how the comedian shaped her view on comedy, and how one interaction with Martin on SNL became a prominent memory because of how it impacted her attitude towards performing. She said:

This echoes a school of thought that a lot of comedians have talked about over the years. When the public has a certain viewpoint of a comedian and their on-stage persona, they likely expect them to be in that zone all the time, whether it’s meeting them in person or seeing them on a talk show. They are always expected to be funny and charming, and if they present differently, or jokes don’t land, it can negatively impact their career.

Fey pointed out that this differs from what is expected of actors on talk shows, who can skate by a bit easier. She explained:

This is definitely a lot of pressure, and admittedly an unfair expectation especially when someone is just being interviewed.

However, it also makes a lot of sense. If you are on a talk show promoting a comedy special or stand-up tour, audiences want to think you’re funny so they check out your project. It’s why a lot of comedians will try to integrate their stand-up jokes into a talk show conversation to enhance the segment. People expect less from actors who are promoting a project that isn't based on their personal sense of humor.

While this was probably an off-the-cuff remark after one of Martin’s many SNL appearances, it clearly struck a chord with the 30 Rock star, who seemingly has been thinking about this for years.

Even if it has “haunted her” as she claims, you would never know it based on her own talk show appearances over the years. Fey is always witty, charming, funny, and seemingly relaxed in the environment. Like Martin, she “kills” every time, and it seems effortless, even though it likely requires much more brain power than it appears.

The Only Murders in the Building's star's words to the Mean Girls writer may have been chilling to hear, but it's clearly worked. Fey’s comedy career has flourished since she got this piece of advice all those years ago.

Whether it’s because of her charismatic talk show appearances, or just simply raw talent, Tina Fey continues to thrive. If you’re like me and you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to hang out with comedy legends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, today is your lucky day. In addition to going on tour together, the Weekend Update duo recently recorded a podcast episode. In a now-viral clip, the 30 Rock alum vented about her "problem with rich people," and her fellow Mean Girls actress dished out some straight talk back.

For the first episode of her new podcast, Good Hang With Amy Poehler, the Parks and Recreation star of course had to invite her self-proclaimed work wife on as a guest. The two SNL alums are besties in real life, and they got right to comfortably chatting about what was on their minds. Poehler brought up how she has always encouraged Fey to start her own glasses line, and the Whisky Tango Foxtrot actress got real about why she doesn’t have one:

Ever the quick-witted, self-aware host, Poehler joked that she meant celebrities having a podcast. No, that’s work, Fey replied. Then, the A Haunting In Venice actress quickly made clear that she was talking about rich and famous actors who decided to sell a product, like a rosé.

The point Fey was making was that it seems a little bit exploitative for celebrities with, say $200 million per her example, to ask people to specifically buy their brand because they are famous. Plus, these days a lot of actors and musicians end up attaining exorbitant amounts of wealth not from their main craft, but from a makeup line or alcohol brand attached to their name. So, this is a very relevant topic.

However, Fey's Sisters co-star gave a very straight-up take on her friend’s apprehension:

The Inside Out actress went on to make the point that this is kind of how things are these days. Many celebrities have products attached to their names, whether they promote them or not. It’s normalized in current culture, so why not jump on the wagon? Considering Poehler landed SNL because of the existing cast member, I see where she’s coming from. Do people really care anymore how a person or a brand gets their start in their industry if it ends up being of good quality?

To answer that question, yes kind of. TikTok users took to the comments to share their own thoughts on the famous sitcom stars’ opinions:

Tracy Morgan might be best known for his role on Tina Fey’s satirical sitcom 30 Rock (which you can stream on Hulu), but the Saturday Night Live alum and regular has dozens of other credits, including a four-year run as Tray Barker on the TBS comedy series The Last O.G. that ended in 2021. Four years later, Morgan is headed back to television, and this time, he has an unlikely co-star, Daniel Radcliffe.

Variety first broke the news of Morgan’s untitled comedy series a week ago, and now there is even more information to share. Hailing from the minds of Tina Fey and several other former 30 Rock and SNL creatives, the series will follow Reggie, a disgraced football player (Morgan) who must rehabilitate his image. While not much else is known about Morgan’s character yet, we are learning more about Radcliffe's role.

The Weird: The Al Yankovic Story star is set to play Arthur Tobin, a successful filmmaker who plans to create an immersive documentary about Reggie. To do so, Arthur moves into Reggie’s mansion.

It’s been confirmed that the untitled sports comedy will be a single-camera show; however, what remains unclear is if it will be a mockumentary like The Office or the recent hit Abbott Elementary. 30 Rock was not, but with Radcliffe playing a documentary filmmaker, it's definitely a possibility that the show will feature some mockumentary-style elements like the infamous talking-head segments.

And if that's the case, it'd feel right at home alongside NBC's similar hits like The Office, Parks and Rec and St. Denis Medical both on the network and on Peacock.

While this NBC pilot marks the first time Morgan and Radcliffe will share the stage, it’s not the former Harry Potter star’s first foray into comedy television, nor his first time working with Fey. The two first teamed up for his appearance in the interactive special Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidy: Kimmy vs the Reverend. Most recently, he's co-starred opposite Steve Buscemi in the anthology comedy TBS series Miracle Workers.

Morgan, of course, is no stranger to the world of comedic television either. Most recently, the comedy icon has recently appeared in several guest roles for Disney Plus’s The Santa Clauses and CBS’s The Neighborhood, which is set to end next year. The latter of which has landed Morgan a spin-off series where he will reprise his role as Curtis Butler, the cousin to Cedric the Entertainer’s character from the multi-cam series.

As of writing, there is no word on whether or not the untitled comedy will be ready in time to debut on the fall 2025 TV schedule. Given that the news is only about a pilot order, we might never see the finished product. But I cant imagine that anything with Morgan and Radcliffe sharing the screen would get sidelined that early. Perhaps some wizarding skills would come in handy...

At one point in time, if you said Tina Fey or Amy Poehler, the other name likely wasn’t far behind. From their days on Saturday Night Live as the co-anchors of the Weekend Update, the writers/actresses were a comedy force as their careers intertwined, from Fey and Poehler's touring life to outstanding individual projects, all because their long-standing friendship predated widespread fame. Surprisingly though, the Inside Out star revealed that her standing as a "nepo friend" had a direct impact in her rise to stardom.

While the two Baby Mama costars visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they chatted about the second leg (pun intended) of their Restless Leg Tour as well as all things SNL. Via the show’s YouTube page, the trio of Studio 8H alums launched into their beginnings and how Fallon met the Parks & Recreation star at a sketch show she was a part of (Upright Citizen’s Brigade). After the TV show host recounted the anecdote, he and Fey praised Poehler, saying that her landing on the SNL cast was because of her work.

The Blades of Glory alum was quick to say the reason she bagged the gig was because she had a friend (Fey) on the inside, and wouldn’t stand a chance today, stating:

True to form, The House actress sharing the credit, and love, with her longstanding comedy partner doesn’t come as a surprise. While much of their careers are intertwined and affected by one another, and Fey’s best films and shows overlap with some of the most iconic Amy Poehler movies and TV quotes, both shine just as well on their own. There’s no doubt, at least in my mind, that the Moxie alum would’ve found her way into the historic sketch show, with or without her Sisters costar.

As the upcoming SNL 50 hosts and musical guests continue to light up the historic season on our 2025 TV schedule, we’re heading into a weekend full of special reunion events. Between the Friday night homecoming concert, red carpet Saturday and the actual reunion special, Poehler and Fey are likely to make multiple appearances. The pair is on the top of my list to see during this celebratory weekend and I’d be happy to see them a part of anything, though, my fingers are crossed for a special Weekend Update segment.

Both Wine Country actresses have been busy walking down memory lane at Rockefeller Plaza, though. Fey's impending Four Seasons reboot is slated to premiere on our 2025 Netflix movie and TV schedule while Poehler's life-changing Inside Out franchise continues to make waves for Pixar and Disney. And that’s not even mentioning the Disney Pixar star’s organization she co-founded, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, which aims at helping young people cultivate a future they’d like for themselves.

I think it’s pretty safe to say, that regardless of whether Amy Poehler believes she is a nepo pal or not, she’s more than made a name for herself beyond Tina Fey’s work. And their longstanding friendship seems to be more important to her than how she wound up on SNL all those years ago.

The best Saturday Night Live stars made an impact on the classic sketch comedy series, not just because of their ability to be funny but, more importantly, their ability to act. These comedy icons would go on to prove their versatility by challenging themselves in more serious roles on both the big and small screen, going on to earn widespread praise for their craft. Here, we show our appreciation for these dramatic performances by very funny people, including some that earned these SNL stars Oscar nominations.

Kristen Wiig (The Skeleton Twins)

This one technically counts as a twofer because the eponymous siblings in the 2014 twin movie, The Skeleton Twins, are played by SNL veterans Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. Wiig has never given a more absorbing performance than in this movie that gets honest about mental illness as Maggie Dean, who is forced to put her own mental health struggles at bay to care for her gay, suicidal brother, Milo.

Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer)

Robert Downey Jr. is already better known for his dramatic roles (and playing Iron Man in the Marvel movies) than his brief SNL stint. However, many agree that his career best so far is his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan's Best Picture Oscar winner, 2023's Oppenheimer, which was his third Academy Award-nominated performance and the first to earn him the gold.

Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird)

Laurie Metcalf is one of the better examples of an actor with a largely forgotten SNL stint, considering she only made a couple of appearances on the show during Season 6. She is far better known for playing Jackie on Roseanne and The Conners and for her heartbreaking, Oscar-nominated performance in Greta Gerwig's acclaimed 2017 dramedy, Lady Bird, as the mother of the angsty titular role.

Will Ferrell (Stranger Than Fiction)

Director Marc Forster’s 2006 film, Stranger Than Fiction, is still, essentially, a comedy but an undeniably dark one, as it follows an IRS agent named Harold Crick, who can hear the author of his life story foretelling his impending death. The role was one of the first to prove that a goofy actor like Will Ferrell had dramatic chops and his tender performance, one of the strongest of his career, would earn him a Golden Globe nomination.

Will Forte (Nebraska)

Perhaps the best thing outside of SNL to star Will Forte (in addition to the MacGruber movie and his prematurely canceled TV show The Last Man on Earth) is director Alexander Payne's Nebraska. The comedian shows a new rare side of himself in the Oscar-nominated 2013 as a David Grant, who agrees to travel cross-country with his estranged father, Woody (Bruce Dern), to claim a potentially non-existent prize of $1 million.

Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls)

While Eddie Murphy scored a radio hit in 1985 with "Party All the Time," the moment that truly convinced the world that he was a musically talented SNL star was his performance in Dreamgirls. He received an Academy Award nomination for playing troubled R&B singer, James “Thunder” Early in the acclaimed 2006 musical.

Abby Elliott (The Bear)

Creator Christopher Storer's acclaimed FX original, The Bear, is often billed as a comedy, especially around awards season. However, real fans of the culinary series know that it is truly one of the most emotionally grasping shows of its time and Abby Elliott (daughter of fellow SNL vet Chris Elliott) has contributed to some of its strongest moments as Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto.

Adam Sandler (Uncut Gems)

While he is still beloved for comedies like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, both critics and audiences agree that one of Adam Sandler's best movies is the intense 2019 thriller Uncut Gems. Many believed he deserved an Oscar nomination for his performance in the acclaimed A24 movie from Josh and Benny Safdie as self-destructive Manhattan jeweler Howard Rattner.

Sarah Silverman (I Smile Back)

It was not until years after her one-season stint on SNL that Sarah Silverman became one of the biggest names in comedy with her sharp stand-up and roles in popular funny movies. However, she had never received wider and stronger critical acclaim before playing vastly against type in the 2015 drama I Smile Back as a troubled woman struggling to hide her depression and self-destructive tendencies from her husband and young children.

Bill Murray (Lost In Translation)

Many would call Bill Murray (who was part of SNL's Not Ready for Primetime Players) losing Best Actor for one of the best movies of the 2000s, Lost in Translation, at the 2004 Academy Awards one of the biggest Oscar blunders in history. His performance in writer and director Sofia Coppola’s sophomore effort as a lonely veteran actor striking up an unlikely bond with a young woman (played by Scarlett Johansson) in Tokyo is a masterclass in raw honesty and charm.

Chris Rock (Fargo)

No one was more surprised to see Noah Hawley offer Chris Rock one of the lead roles in the fourth season of his hit anthology TV show, Fargo, than the former SNL star himself. Rock – who went on to play a cop in a Saw movie called Spiral and starred in the Oscar-nominated biopic, Rustin – really turned heads with his commanding performance as Loy Cannon, who leads his 1950s-ear, Kansas City crime family with an iron fist.

Bill Hader (Barry)

When he created Barry with Alec Berg, Bill Hader knew people would think the idea of him playing a contract killer who falls in love with acting is pretty funny. That must have motivated the former SNL favorite to prove that he could bring himself to some disturbingly bleak places with his two-time Emmy-winning performance in the title role of the hit HBO series.

Kate McKinnon (Bombshell)

We genuinely believe that one of the most essential reasons why Bombshell is one of Kate McKinnon's best movies is the dynamic SNL star's performance. Her role as Fox News employee Jess Carr – a composite character based on real people involved with the real-life events that inspired the 2019 docudrama – could be written off as comic relief but she does show some real gravitas in its more somber moments.

Dan Aykroyd (Driving Miss Daisy)

Some of Dan Aykroyd's most notable cinematic efforts are actually movies based on SNL characters, namely The Blues Brothers and Coneheads. However, he would earn praise and an Academy Award nomination for his moving turn as Boolie Werthan in 1989’s beloved period drama, Driving Miss Daisy.

Andy Samberg (Lee)

When appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg acknowledged that a movie like Lee – the 2024 biopic about World War II photographer Lee Miller, played by Kate Winslet – is unlike anything the Lonely Island member has done before. However, not only is the SNL vet a dead ringer for Miller's colleague, David Scherman, but he excels in his emotionally heavy portrayal of the man.

Maya Rudolph (Away We Go)

Director Sam Mendes' Away We Go is a sweet, tender-hearted dramedy about a couple (played by John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph) traveling the country in search of a worthy home for their soon-to-be-born child. Carrying most of the emotional weight in the film is Rudolph, resulting in one of her most wonderfully down-to-earth performances from one of SNL's goofiest female performers.

Molly Shannon (A Good Person)

Writer and director Zach Braff's A Good Person – following a young woman (played by Florence Pugh) and her post-accident road to recovery with help from her would-be father-in-law (played by Morgan Freeman) – is led to by heavy-hitting Oscar darlings. Yet, some say the heart and soul of the 2023 dramedy is Molly Shannon's performance as the mother of Pugh's character, for which she gives her most acclaimed, heartfelt dramatic performance yet.

Jay Pharoah (Unsane)

Jay Pharoah only departed from SNL a couple of years breaking into dramatic acting with director Steven Soderbergh's Unsane. The comedian and talented impressionist is electrifying in the mind-bending psychological thriller as a mental hospital patient who befriends Sawyer (Claire Foy), who claims she has been admitted against her will.

Jenny Slate (Obvious Child)

Arguably the most memorable moment from Jenny Slate's one-season SNL stint is when she accidentally dropped the F-bomb during her first show (which she confirmed had nothing to do with her exit, by the way). Years after her time at Studio 8H, the comedian amazed critics with her beautiful and heartbreaking performance in the 2014 romantic dramedy Obvious Child, in which she plays a stand-up comic dealing with an unplanned pregnancy.

Casey Wilson (Gone Girl)

Some might say that a sign of a great actor is the ability to convey all that an audience needs to know just in one's silent expressions. For proof, see Casey Wilson's performance as Amy Dunne's "friend" Noelle Hawthorne in David Fincher's Gone Girl, in which you rarely, if ever, hear her speak but are thoroughly captivated by her body language.

Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone)

In 1984, the same year that Anthony Michael Hall became a teen idol with roles in hilarious, high school movies The Breakfast Club and Weird Science, he became the youngest SNL cast member, coming on at just 17 years old. Years later, he fully reinvented himself as a serious actor as the star of USA's series adaptation of Stephen King's The Dead Zone, in which he plays a man who wakes from a coma with the ability to see the future.

Christopher Guest (The Long Riders)

Christopher Guest joined the SNL cast in 1984, around the same time his career as the most trusted mockumentarian began as one of the writers and stars of This is Spinal Tap. He had shown Hollywood his more serious side years earlier by starring in The Long Riders – a fact-based Western noted for casting real-life siblings as real-life outlaw siblings, such as Guest and his brother, Nicholas, as Charley and Robert Ford.

Jane Curtin (Can You Ever Forgive Me?)

After SNL, Jane Curtin went on to play many great comedic roles – such as her two-time Emmy-winning role on Kate & Allie and an acclaimed stint on 3rd Rock from the Sun – but did not have quite many opportunities to show her more serious side. That would change in 2018 when the one-time "Weekend Update" anchor starred in the biopic Can You Ever Forgive Me? as Marjorie, who works as the agent for author Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy).

Michael McKean (Better Call Saul)

Interestingly, Michael McKean was already an established comedy actor and had even hosted SNL before he joined as a cast member in the early 1990s. However, his reputation as a dramatic actor was never fully realized before his Emmy-nominated turn on Vince Gilligan's Breaking Bad prequel series Better Call Saul as Chuck, the delusional older brother of Jimmy McGill (former SNL writer Bob Odenkirk).

Joan Cusack (Arlington Road)

Joan Cusack became the first SNL star to earn two Academy Award nominations but both were for comedic roles, namely from 1988's Working Girl and In & Out from 1997. One might argue she deserved similar recognition for her work in 1999's Arlington Road as Cheryl Lang, who, along with her husband (played by Tim Robbins), is suspected of domestic terrorism by their neighbor, a professor (played by Jeff Bridges).

Billy Crystal (Before)

With the exception of, perhaps, the tearjerker ending of When Harry Met Sally..., it is hard to imagine Billy Crystal in a role that doesn't require him to be his signature goofy self. Thus, the comedic genius shocked audiences when he served as the star and showrunner of Apple TV+'s dark thriller Before, in which he plays a widowed child psychiatrist whose newest patient exhibits signs of psychopathy.

Janeane Garofalo (Cop Land)

Janeane Garofalo's time at SNL is largely forgotten but, luckily, did not affect her reputation as one of the smartest and most dynamic comedic actors in the 1990s. She further proved her versatility in 1997 as Deputy Sheriff Cindy Betts in James Mangold's acclaimed crime thriller, Cop Land.

Chevy Chase (Law & Order)

Chevy Chase's bread and butter on and off SNL was playing smarmy jerks. However, he really upped the ante in 2006 for his guest star appearance on Law & Order as an anti-Semitic murder suspect.

Tina Fey (A Haunting In Venice)

In addition to being the Agatha Christie surrogate in Kenneth Branagh's third Agatha Christie adaptation, you could call Tina Fey's clever writer Ariadne Oliver the comic relief of A Haunting in Venice. However, the former SNL star and one-time head writer plays the role in the 2023 mystery thriller with an earnestness that is perfectly suitable for its story and tone.

Jim Belushi (The Principal)

Jim Belushi's stint at SNL was unavoidably a constant source of comparison to his older brother, John Belushi. Luckily, he went on to have a relatively successful run with more dramatic roles, such as a man who takes a job at an anarchic high school in 1987's The Principal.

Rob Riggle (12 Strong)

Rob Riggle's brief time at SNL led to a stint on The Daily Show and scene-stealing turns in comedies like Stepbrothers and 21 Jump Street but his best role might be from 2018's 12 Strong. As he told Stephen Colbert on Late Show, he was uniquely qualified to star in the fact-based military drama, not only because he is a former U.S. Marine but because the person he is portraying, Lt. Colonel Bowers, is his actual former boss.

Randy Quaid (The Last Detail)

One of the few people to become an Academy Award nominee before becoming an SNL cast member is Randy Quaid. He earned the honor from his performance in 1973's The Last Detail as a dishonorable discharged Naval officer who is shown one last good time by his superiors (played by Jack Nicholson and Otis Young) before facing jail time.

One of the most exclusive clubs in show business just got a new member. SNL’s much-hyped 5-Timers Club opened its arms to funnyman and former cast member Martin Short last night, and there was no shortage of star power there to honor his big moment. Nearly a dozen Hollywood A-listers, in fact, made an appearance in the official 5-Timers Club sketch, and they were each welcomed by a pumped-up crowd stoked to see them back in Studio 8H.

Clocking in at more than nine minutes, the 5-Timers Club took the cold open slot last night, and it rolled out its cameos slowly, giving each of the mega-celebrities a little time to pick up some laughs and really make their presence felt. My favorite segment was definitely the group reveal where everyone went around and dropped a secret about themselves, with the best being Paul Rudd admitting Ant-Man’s powers aren’t good and Tom Hanks hilariously admitting, despite all the hoopla around his early diagnosis, he never actually had Covid. It’s only fitting Saturday Night Live gave us a 5-Timers Club sketch this season because the show is leaning a lot harder into nostalgia because of the milestone. The beloved sketch comedy show is celebrating its 50th Season this year, and while it always works in nostalgia and fun cameos now and again, it’s been especially aggressive about it this season. Former cast members like Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey and Andy Samberg have contributed to multiple episodes this season, and quite a few others like Adam Sandler and David Spade have shown up for one-offs.

This 5-Timers Club sketch also includes a fun cameo from former cast member Jimmy Fallon. In the sketch, he has a great little moment with Martin Short about laughing at their own jokes, and it struck me as a great example of what has allowed SNL to connect with so many people over the years. When you look down all the 5-Timers Club members in this sketch, it’s clear there’s no specific brand of comedy. How John Mulaney is trying to make people laugh is in no way the same as how Jimmy Fallon is trying to make people laugh or Tina Fey or Alec Baldwin or Kristen Wiig. Melissa McCarthy literally falls through a wall during the sketch. The show is a big tent, and it has always been good about being funny in different ways.

SNL is scheduled for a little holiday hiatus after this week, but it’ll return sometime in the new year with a fresh crop of hosts that haven’t been announced yet. In keeping with the theme of this season, I’d expect to see a good balance of new stars of the moment and some folks who have been around the show plenty in the past.

Bowen Yang’s career has risen since he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, with the 34-year-old seemingly racking higher profile roles as time goes on. Even before this 50th season of SNL (which is airing amid the 2024 TV schedule), his roles TV and movie resume was already taking shape, and he hosted (and continues to run) a commentary-driven culture podcast with best friend Matt Rogers called Las Culturistas. As Yang continues to become a household name, he revealed that he still struggles with the advice that SNL alum Tina Fey gave him in regard to fame.

The Nora From Queens alum joined the NPR podcast Wild Card to chat about a little of everything. When asked about what he’s learned to be careful of career-wise, Bowen Yang referred to the aforementioned Mean Girls writer’s words about the ups and downs of maintaining authenticity as a famous person. As the comedian explained, the comments haunt him:

As someone who is a fan of the Fire Island star and a self-declared "Reader" (a specific type of fan of the podcast), I've seen his words get picked apart in real time. One such instance involved him calling SNL "cringy," He chalked that descriptor up to cast members having to deal with various critiques of the live show. Aside from that, the actor received backlash over his portrayal of darling pygmy hippo Moo Deng, for an on air-segment that seemingly mocked singer Chappell Roan.

It's certainly been interesting to witness Bowen Yang navigate the pitfalls of celebrity as he continues to forge a successful career. Yang went on to further explain why public figures’ words have to change. In order to get his point across, he specifically referred to a quote that Tina Fey shared when she was on his podcast:

In my humble opinion, those words could also stand alongside some of Tina Fey's best lines. They're haunting yet funny, and ring true for anyone with a public platform. Bowen Yang is on a similar SNL career trajectory as Fey, so it is wise for him to consider the sentiments on a serious level.

During his recent interview, Isn’t It Romantic alum also reflected on the advice in relationship to how important his authenticity is and how he traditionally shares his opinions:

It’s apt for him to question this standard in relation to himself and to respect what partially made a name for himself in the first place. Hopefully, he doesn’t dwell too long, though, especially since he's recently had reason to celebrate. He's one of the many cast members of the long-awaited Wicked adaptation, which opens in theaters later this month. Here's to continued success and learning experiences for the comedian.

When a performer says goodbye to the Saturday Night Live cast, it does not necessarily mean forever. Often, the sketch comedy TV show will invite an esteemed alum to appear in an episode either as a special guest or as a headliner, sometimes resulting in a hall-of-fame hosting gig. The following are some of our favorite times a former SNL star made a grand impression when they came back to Studio 8H.

Eddie Murphy

After leaving SNL in 1984, Eddie Murphy came back to host (actually his second time, having hosted while still on the cast in 1982) for an episode later that year, on which he debuted, arguably, his best SNL sketch, "White Like Me." After being honored at the 40th anniversary special, the Academy Award nominee came back to host a third time, resulting in one of the most acclaimed episodes of Season 45.

Ben Stiller

You might have forgotten that Ben Stiller was a cast member since he only lasted four episodes in 1989, which he acknowledged when he first came back to host in 1998 after becoming a bigger name in comedy. He would return to host again 2011 in, followed by a series of recurring appearances as Donald Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, in 2018.

Norm Macdonald

Famously, Norm Macdonald was fired from the SNL cast in 1998 for, as the NBC executives at the time claimed, not being funny. Just a year and a half later, he came back to host an episode, during which he joked in his monologue that he had not gotten any funnier but the show had gotten "really bad" since his exit.

Robert Downey Jr.

Before becoming one of the most beloved A-list actors in Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr. was one of the most heavily criticized cast members from one of the most heavily criticized seasons of SNL from 1985 to 1986. He only came back to host once in 1996, during which he proved was the supremely talented performer we know and love and, eventually, became the first former SNL cast member to win an Oscar for Oppenheimer in 2024.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia Louis-Dreyfus would not become a comedy icon until after her three-year stint at Studio 8H from 1982 to 1985 when she joined the Seinfeld cast as Elaine Benes. In 2006, fresh off her Emmy win for The New Adventures of Old Christine, she became the first female former SNL cast member to return as a host, which she would follow with two more gigs.

Jimmy Fallon

After a successful six years at SNL from 1998 to 2004, Jimmy Fallon would return for three hosting gigs and countless cameos. Each time the late-night TV host comes back to Studio 8H tends to be a celebrated affair, especially because there is a good chance that his friend, Justin Timberlake, will show up to participate in a new edition of "The Barry Gibb Talk Show" or some other sketch.

John Mulaney

While he was never part of the SNL cast, John Mulaney would perform a few funny segments on "Weekend Update" during his five years on the writing staff. He would later become one of the biggest names in stand-up comedy and such a beloved host that he joined the Five-Timers Club within only four years.

Dan Aykroyd

Sometimes, for a cast veteran, the key to a memorable hosting gig is to wait an exceptionally long time to come back as an SNL host, much like Dan Aykroyd did. The legendary, Canadian-American comedy star, known for sketches like “The Coneheads” and “Super Bass-o-Matic ‘76” from his tenure as a Not Ready for Primetime Player, headlined an episode in 2003, more than two decades after leaving the show.

Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman is actually one of several SNL cast members who only lasted one season but still ended up becoming a huge success in the end. Two decades after she was let go from the series, the acclaimed comedian hosted a funny episode from Season 40.

Martin Short

It is hard to believe that a performer like Martin Short was only an SNL cast member for one season but he has, luckily, continued to demonstrate his dynamic comedic talents through memorable hosting gigs. His first hosting gig from 1986 was shared with his Three Amigos co-stars, Chevy Chase and Steve Martin – the latter of which he would co-host with again in 2022.

Adam Sandler

Surprisingly, despite making a couple of cameos over the years, Adam Sandler would not host SNL until 2019, which resulted in an instant favorite episode in which he sang two memorable songs. The former "SNL Bad Boy's" first tune (including a Chris Rock appearance) was during his monologue and discussed how he was fired after four seasons in 1995 and the other was a tribute to Chris Farley.

Kate McKinnon

After 10 wonderful years at SNL, the great Kate McKinnon would return a year and a half later to host the last episode of 2023, which proved to be a very successful episode, and not just because it featured cameos by Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and her Barbie director, Greta Gerwig. Also, in Season 49, she would also come back for one more appearance as alien abduction victim Colleen Rafferty to make host Ryan Gosling laugh uncontrollably once again.

Chevy Chase

Only two weeks after his final episode as an SNL cast member, Chevy Chase made a hilarious, self-mocking cameo in the cold open as himself, performing music for tips outside of 30 Rock. He would continue to return for more cameos and eventually became the first host to join the Five-Timers Club before the idea of it had been suggested by Tom Hanks.

Billy Crystal

In a unique twist on this topic, Billy Crystal was actually meant to appear on the very first episode of SNL in 1975 but was ultimately cut for time, as depicted in the 2024 movie Saturday Night. As his notoriety increased, the comedian was asked to host twice in 1984 before being hired later that year as a cast member, during which he lit up the screen with his impersonation of Fernando Lamas and other notable characters.

Tina Fey

Having served as both "Weekend Update" host and head writer near the end of her nine-year tenure, Tina Fey was a true SNL MVP but some of her most memorable moments on the show occurred after her 2006 exit. Prior to her Five-Timers Club induction, the 30 Rock creator and star made numerous appearances as Sarah Palin that earned rave reviews.

Dana Carvey

A key element to SNL's new golden era from 1986 to 1993 was Dana Carvey and his wonderful talent for impressions, which he would continue to lend to Studio 8H in the years since his exit. The Wayne's World star is one of the most frequent returning cast members, especially in Season 50 as President Joe Biden.

David Spade

Many of David Spade's funniest quotes originate from his six years on SNL in the early-to-mid-1990s. His blunt, sarcastic, and sometimes unapologetically brutal delivery of mockery at other celebrities' expense would serve him well in his hosting gigs – the first of which included a cold open featuring Brad Pitt as his therapist.

Kristen Wiig

The final episode of SNL's 37th Season was the final episode for a few notable cast members but it ended with a grand send-off purely dedicated to Kristen Wiig's esteemed seven years, which included some hilarious quotes. It was not long before the Oscar nominee was asked to bring back her famous characters as a host and her Season 49 episode saw her induction into the Five-Timers Club.

Chris Farley

After becoming one of SNL's most esteemed icons during his five-season run and proving to be a box office draw with movies like Tommy Boy, Chris Farley was at the height of his fame when he came back to host two years after leaving. However, his October 1997 episode is now remembered more somberly because, only two months later, he would pass away from a drug overdose at the age of 33.

Maya Rudolph

Maya Rudolph proved herself as an all-time great during her seven years on SNL in the 2000s. She would return for multiple hosting gigs and an innumerable amount of special guest appearances, most notably as her Emmy-winning portrayal of Kamala Harris.

Pete Davidson

For his clever "Weekend Update" commentaries, fascinating personal life, and title as the youngest SNL cast member on record, Pete Davidson was one of the series' most talked about performers when he left at the end of Season 47. He was initially meant to return as a host for the following season but, due to the Writers' Strike, he instead returned for the Season 49 premiere, which featured a viral pre-filmed bit poking fun at his post-SNL career inspired by Barbie's "I'm Just Ken."

Tracy Morgan

Impersonations of the likes of Al Sharpton and Oprah Winfrey and hilarious original characters like Brian Fellow and Astronaut Jones made Tracy Morgan a force to be reckoned with during his seven years on SNL. As a result, each of the 30 Rock cast member's returns to the Studio 8H stage as a host or guest have been warm celebrations of his best moments as a cast member.

Paul Shaffer

Starting off as a member of Studio 8H's house band, Paul Shaffer later made history as the first person to drop the F-bomb on SNL during his 1979-1980 stint on the cast. Of course, he bounced back from the incident without issue and would make cameos on the show and host an episode from 1987 after being David Letterman's bandleader greatly increased his notoriety.

Damon Wayans

One of the most infamous SNL cast firings is that of Damon Wayans, who changed the nature of a character on the fly in the middle of a broadcast in 1986. The comedian would find even greater success as a member of the In Living Color cast and, in 1995, was asked to come back as a host.

Phil Hartman

It is easy to understand why some argue that Phil Hartman is the greatest SNL cast member of all time and why, just two years after his exit, he was asked to host twice in 1996. We have no doubt we would have seen more of the Emmy winner gracing the Studio 8H stage again if not for his untimely murder in 1998 at the age of 49.

Chris Rock

The first "Bad Boy of SNL" to return as a host was Chris Rock in 1996, which was three years after his departure. At that point, the comedian had found decent subsequent success by making appearances on the show's biggest competitor at the time, In Living Color.

Jason Sudeikis

While he would make several post-exit guest appearances, Jason Sudeikis' first time hosting in 2021 was eight years after he left the show, which was actually a year later than he had intended. The gig was a big moment, given his Emmy-winning success on Ted Lasso at the time and his heartfelt opening monologue celebrating his time as a writer-turned-cast member.

Will Ferrell

Despite a hiccup or two in his early days on the cast, Will Ferrell became one of the most beloved SNL cast members of the 90s and early 2000s. His many appearances since, including five hosting gigs, have resulted in some of the show's most celebrated moments in recent years.

Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler's impeccable skills of impersonation and arsenal of uproarious characters made her seven years on SNL a one-of-a-kind era. Her many notable appearances since include co-hosting with her friend and one-time "Weekend Update" co-anchor Tina Fey in 2015 and making cameoing as Leslie Knope alongside her fellow former Parks and Recreation cast member, Aubrey Plaza, in 2023.

Darrell Hammond

One of the all-time longest-standing SNL cast members is Darrell Hammond with 14 seasons but his time at Studio 8H would not stop there after all. In addition to making special appearances – most notably in "Celebrity Jeopardy!" sketches as Sean Connery – the actor would succeed Don Pardo as the show's announcer when Pardo passed away in 2014.

Molly Shannon

Three-time Emmy nominee Molly Shannon is the driving force behind one of the most iconic SNL characters to earn their own movie, Mary Katherine Gallagher. The misfit Catholic high school student is just one character she has brought back for her numerous appearances on the show since leaving in 2001, including two hosting gigs.

Bill Murray

After Chevy Chase left in 1976, stepping in to join the Not Ready for Primetime Players was Bill Murray, who hilariously acknowledged his struggle to make an impression on SNL early on in a famous sketch. Of course, the Oscar nominee would quickly achieve wild notoriety in the 1980s, which made his subsequent five hosting gigs and additional cameos much-celebrated occasions.

It's been over two decades since Mean Girls first hit theaters starring Lindsay Lohan as Cady, the new girl in school. The teen comedy is considered one of the best movies of the 2000s and became such a classic that it inspired a Broadway show and then a movie musical based on the stage performance. All three versions kept a lot of Tina Fey's original and oh-so-quotable dialogue, so let's look back at 32 of the best Mean Girls quotes that we're still repeating today.

“Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimized by Regina George.”

Regina George remains one of the most notorious female villains in movie history, and if you need proof of why, just look at how many people she has affected with her reign of terror. Even her best friends fell victim to her manipulation, as well as the North Shore High teachers.

“You go, Glen Coco!”

It seems like such a throwaway line that it's hard to say why this quote is so enduring. Damian is helping Cady to break up The Plastics, which involves him dressing as Santa Claus for a candy cane scheme. He hands out candy canes purchased by other students, with Glen Coco receiving an impressive four, thus inspiring the beloved quote. The line was even given extra flair in the musical versions of the film during the song "Revenge Party."

"It's October 3rd."

Mean Girls fans will never forget what day it was when Aaron Samuels asked Cady what day it was. That date is now circled on movie lovers' calendars as Mean Girls Day, making it the perfect time to dress up in pink (as long as it's Wednesday) and enjoy a repeat viewing of the classic teen movie.

"Oh, I love seeing teachers outside of school. It's like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs."

Damian and Janis seemed bewildered and a little disgusted to see Ms. Norbury outside of the classroom, and shopping at the mall no less. Janis wasn't wrong, though, because there is something inherently strange about seeing teachers or anyone from school out in the wild.

“On Wednesdays we wear pink.”

The Plastics had a lot of arbitrary rules about social appearances to follow, but this one is the most iconic. How does anyone who's seen this movie even put together an outfit on a Wednesday without considering this cardinal rule? Is it even OK to wear pink on days that aren't Wednesday? I'm not afraid to ask the important questions.

“She doesn’t even go here!”

I wouldn't say it was surprising that Damian snuck into the junior girls' workshop (his identity fully cloaked by use of a hoodie and sunglasses). It's a little surprising, however, that he infiltrated their space and then still had the brazenness to call out someone else who wasn't supposed to be there.

“That’s why her hair is so big. It’s full of secrets.”

Gretchen Wieners, played by Lacey Chabert, was all "big hair, don't care" in Mean Girls, as the girl who knew everything about everybody. Damian (Daniel Franzese) had an amusing way of describing the infamous gossip, but his delivery ensured that the quote would stick around for decades.

“That was so fetch.”

You have to applaud Gretchen for her drive to make "fetch" happen. Despite anything Regina says, it's clear that if we're still saying this word 20+ years later, it was a success.

“What’s so great about Caesar, hmm? Brutus is just as cute as Caesar. Brutus is just as smart as Caesar. People totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar. And when did it become OK for one person to be the boss of everybody, huh? Because that is not what Rome is about!”

The Plastics are clearly Gretchen's Roman Empire, and she definitely started to see some parallels between Julius Caesar and Regina George, leading to her questioning in the middle of history class why Caesar got to stomp around like a giant while the rest of them tried not to get smushed under his big feet. For what it's worth, I've also always thought Brutus was just as cute as Caesar.

"Whatever, I'm getting cheese fries."

Math is hard. When Cady tried to show Regina how to cross multiply to figure out the percentage of calories from fat in her lunch, the queen bee decided it was just easier to go with what she knew.

“I’m not like a regular mom. I’m a cool mom.”

Amy Poehler was only in Mean Girls for a total of 2 minutes and 10 seconds, but boy did she make an impression as Regina's mom. Mrs. George's ridiculously lenient parenting style continues to be referenced (and possibly emulated) to this day. You can't say she wasn't a good hostess, though, because she was willing to get the girls drinks or novelties of any sort.

“Irregardless, ex-boyfriends are just off-limits to friends. I mean, that’s just, like, the rules of feminism.”

Oh Gretchen. I'd love to be able to give her credit for using a four-syllable word, but given that "irregardless" isn't a word, I just can't. I'm also not sure that Ms. Toaster Strudel quite understands the basic tenets of feminism, though many would agree that staying away from friends' ex-boyfriends is a good practice.

"She asked me how to spell orange."

What an underrated gem we have in this quote. When explaining to Cady who the Plastics are, Damian gives a colorful example of why Karen is one of the dumbest girls you'll ever meet.

“I don't think my father, the inventor of Toaster Strudel, would be too pleased to hear about this."

I just adore Gretchen throwing her weight around as the heiress of the Toaster Strudel empire. She's taking names and is certainly not afraid to drop them.

"I'm kind of psychic. I have a fifth sense. It's like I have ESPN or something."

Now we just have to figure out which other sense Karen Smith isn't using ... Amanda Seyfried's character's talents didn't end with her psychic abilities (or the ability to watch cable sports, apparently). She can also put her whole fist in her mouth and predict when it's already raining.

"There are two kinds of evil people. People who do evil stuff and people who see evil stuff being done and don't try to stop it."

Janis Ian (played by Lizzy Caplan) is definitely onto something here, but I'm not quite sure her argument holds up when you consider she was trying to get Cady to steal the Burn Book from Regina. I'm not sure her intentions were pure.

“I will keep you here all night. ... I will keep you here till 4.”

Principal Duvall (Tim Meadows) was determined to not let the students leave until they'd learned a lesson from the huge brawl that took place in the school halls. He didn't care how long it took ... at least until he was informed that the school couldn't force anyone to stay past 4.

"Did you have an awesome time? Did you drink awesome shooters, listen to awesome music, and then just sit around and soak up each other's awesomeness?"

Janis had every right to be mad at Cady for lying about going out of town instead of going to her art exhibit. On top of everything, Cady threw a big party and didn't even invite Janis and Damian, thus proving that Cady had gone full Plastic. Janis fully dismantled Cady, yelling at her through the sunroof of Damian's car as he tried to get them home before breaking curfew, and I'm sure no one involved felt very awesome in that moment.

“I’m sorry that people are so jealous of me, but I can’t help it that I’m popular.”

I'm pretty sure this was not the kind of apology that Ms. Norbury meant when she suggested the junior girls had some things they needed to get off of their chest. No wonder nobody caught her during the trust fall.

“I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.”

If anyone was in need of Ms. Norbury's empowerment exercises to be able to get something off of her chest, it definitely seems like this mystery student. Too bad she didn't even go there.

“And I want my pink shirt back!”

After Janis went off on Cady for becoming one of The Plastics, Damian punctuated it by basically saying there was no way he was going to let Cady keep the pink shirt he'd lent her so she could sit with her new friends on Wednesdays. This line was apparently ad-libbed by Daniel Franzese, so hats off to the actor.

“One time she punched me in the face. It was awesome.”

The students at North Shore High School were so desperate to be seen by Regina George that they didn't care how that acknowledgment came. Poor Bethany Byrd (Stefanie Drummond) took one in the face from the queen bee and was pleased as, well, punch.

"Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen!"

I hate to break it to you, Regina, but "fetch" totally happened. Strangely enough, though, so did this quote, because it's still repeated in the context of trying to get anyone to stop doing something that's inevitably going to fail.

"Oh my God, Danny DeVito! I love your work!"

This wasn't actually the kindest response that Damian could have given after getting called out for being in the girls restroom to talk to Cady and Janis, but it is hands down one of the funniest.

"I win.”

A freshly divorced Ms. Norbury definitely won the contest for who had the worse summer, after Mr. Duvall said his carpal tunnel syndrome came back. A breakup absolutely trumps carpal tunnel every time.

"Get in, loser, we're going shopping."

Thanks to Regina George, multiple generations of girls have been endearingly referring to their besties as "losers" for 20 years. I, personally, cannot get in the car to go shopping without uttering this phrase.

"I'm a mouse. Duh!"

Everyone (except Cady) knows that Halloween is just an excuse for girls to go out in public dressed provocatively. Lingerie works as a costume if you pair it with animal ears, right? Right?! Well, at least it worked for Karen.

“I can’t go out. *cough, cough* I’m sick.”

Using a fake illness to get out of a possibly uncomfortable social situation is a good move, but the strategy's success lives and dies on the strength of that fake cough. Karen's is definitely one for the history books.

"Is butter a carb?"

Regina George honestly wasn't looking too good when she reached the point in her "diet" where she had to ask Cady if butter was a carb.

“I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.”

OK, this may not be a quote that's actually repeated in full, but you can't help but love this oh-so-relatable look into Principal Duvall's private life after Cady corrected him on the pronunciation of her name.

"I didn't say anything."

There are tons of examples throughout the 2004 classic that show just how much of a fish out of water Cady is amongst the wilderness of the high school hallways, but one of the funniest was her not understanding why the Plastics were always playfully telling her to "Shut up!"

“I did not leave the South Side for this.”

Principal Duvall certainly did not expect to have to deal with full-on hallway melees when he came to North Shore High School, and he was not about to allow himself to be bested by the entire class of junior girls. After nearly getting kicked in the face, he hit the fire alarm, which promptly put an end to the Burn Book brawl.

Sometimes, all it takes is one joint appearance in a movie or television show for two popular actors to become known as an acting duo, and sometimes they prove to work so well together that they go on to star in even more projects together. Two of those movies, however, are absolutely the reason people often talk about them together as they count The Godfather Part II, Heat, Righteous Kill and The Irishman as their joint efforts.

Now, these two actually have made quite a few movies with one another, and largely with both in on-screen roles. Of course, it’s hard to forget that George Clooney and Julia Roberts are in all three of the Ocean’s Eleven films, but they’ve also starred in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (which Clooney also directed), Money Monster and the 2022 rom-com Ticket to Paradise. Frequently we see an acting duo together multiple times because they really are buddies in real life, and that’s true for Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. After first starring together in the 1980 hit 9 to 5 (with Dolly Parton, of course) they eventually re-teamed for the Netflix series Grace and Frankie (which ran for seven seasons), as well as the dark comedy Moving On and 80 for Brady.

Emma Stone And Ryan Gosling

This duo has produced some well-known and beloved comedies and dramas over the years, as Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling first starred together in Crazy, Stupid, Love in 2011, moving on to Gangster Squad in 2013 and the Oscar-winning musical La La Land in 2016. Stone even once said she couldn’t “imagine” her life without Gosling, so these two will probably be friends forever.

We’ve already born witness to a rather lengthy history of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart ripping on each other during their (apparently) laugh and roast-filled friendship, and the two megastars have, indeed, brought that chemistry to the big screen multiple times. The duo counts Central Intelligence, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its sequel, Hobbs & Shaw and DC League of Super-Pets as the titles they’ve appeared in together.

Matt Damon And Ben Affleck

If this isn’t a classic acting duo by now, there are none. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been “bizarrely close” friends since childhood, and they first joined forces to great effect by penning and starring in Good Will Hunting (after having both appeared in School Ties), which won them the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. They also worked on Dogma in the 1990s, then, after nearly 25 years, they joined forces again to write and star in The Last Duel, and since then have also worked together on Air and the upcoming RIP for Netflix.

If only these two powerhouse stars had already been in more movies together…Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle’s first pairing was as P.I. Easy Rawlins and his loyal but unpredictable friend, Mouse, in 1995’s Devil in a Blue Dress. While their work in the film garnered critical acclaim, it would be over 15 years before they teamed again for Flight.

Sanaa Lathan And Taye Diggs

We should never underestimate the power of a franchise when it comes to popular on-screen pairings. This duo counts two megahits in their joint credits, with Awkwafina and Everything Everywhere All At Once Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh both having starred in Crazy Rich Asians (and we’re still waiting for that rom-com sequel) and the MCU entry Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Michelle Yeoh And Jackie Chan

Michelle Yeoh has been a star for several decades, and part of that reason is because of her breakout role in the 1992’s Supercop, which also starred Jackie Chan. But, they’ve made a number of other films with each other, including Supercop 2, and Hong Kong action films Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars, Project S, and both voiced characters in Kung Fu Panda 2, along with having starred in a 1984 watch commercial together.

Everyone knows them for making Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail hits, but before all of that, they led one of the weirder rom-coms made with Joe Versus the Volcano, and reunited for the 2016 drama Ithaca, which Ryan directed.

Drew Barrymore And Adam Sandler

People often mention Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler as an acting duo they want to see more of and with good reason. The two have made magic in the classics The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates and Blended.

Adam Sandler And Chris Rock

This pairing goes back decades, to the time when Adam Sandler and Chris Rock starred on Saturday Night Live together in the ‘90s. Since then, the real-life buddies have appeared in seven movies together, with The Longest Yard, Grown Ups and its sequel, The Week Of and Top Five counted among that number.

George Clooney And Brad Pitt

Of course, George Clooney and Brad Pitt helped to make the Ocean’s Eleven franchise a hit, but the friends additionally teamed up for the live TV movie 8, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (which Clooney directed), Burn After Reading and the 2024 films If and Wolfs.

Keegan-Michael Key And Jordan Peele

The duo of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, who first became recognizable during their time on MadTV, eventually went on to their own acclaimed sketch comedy series, Key and Peele. But, while making names for themselves on other series and in a number of movies, they continue to work with one another on projects like Keanu, Toy Story 4 and Wendell & Wild.

Awkwafina And Simu Liu

It was the MCU that first brought Awkwafina and Simu Liu together in the hit film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and while we’re still waiting to see when that franchise will bring them back together, 2024 saw them team up again for the action comedy, Jackpot!.

Jane Fonda And Robert Redford

Dedicated film fans probably know that legends Jane Fonda and Robert Redford starred together in Barefoot in the Park and The Electric Horseman, but their joint movie appearances do go beyond that. They also starred in The Chase in ‘66 and reunited for Our Souls at Night in 2017, and both had their film debuts in 1960’s Tall Story.

As you can see, film history is packed with acting duos who’ve worked together more than once, and that will probably always be the case.

Many of comedy’s most esteemed legends were once part of the Saturday Night Live cast, but that does not necessarily mean that NBC’s long-running series marked the beginning of their career. Some Studio 8H veterans first cut their teeth as part of The Second City — a Chicago-based improv troupe that also served as a jumping-off point for the likes of John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and more. As for the many SNL stars who performed with Second City, we have them listed for you below.

Dan Aykroyd

Famous for co-creating the Blues Brothers and the Festrunk Brothers (arguably his single best SNL sketch), Not-Ready-For-Primetime Player Dan Aykroyd is also a veteran of Second City. In fact, the future Ghostbusters star and writer performed with the troupe in both his native Canada and Chicago.

Amy Poehler

Second City was actually just one of a few places where Amy Poehler studied improvisational comedy in the early 1990s before becoming an SNL all-star. The future Parks and Recreation cast member also trained at iO (then called ImprovOlympic) and was a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Martin Short

Some of Martin Short’s funniest characters from his one-season stint on SNL actually originated from his time at Second City and on the troupe’s own sketch comedy series, SCTV. The most notable example would have to be childish pop culture obsessive, Ed Grimley.

Tina Fey

The dynamic power duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler first came to be when they performed at Second City together. Before becoming SNL’s first female head-writer, Fey also made history as a member of Second City’s first gender-equal cast.

Bill Murray

Before Bill Murray became Chevy Chase’s replacement Not-Ready-For-Primetime Player, he practiced improv at Second City. He recalled to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that he started at the same time as John Candy and described his first-day performance as “pretty bad.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Despite her subsequent success in the Seinfeld cast, leading Veep, and other accomplishments, there are still many people who are not aware or have forgotten that Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on SNL. Even fewer people probably know about her early days studying improv at the Second City.

Rachel Dratch

During an interview with Today, Rachel Dratch — known best for playing Debbie Downer on SNL — discussed her days as part of Second City. She said — while noting how every Second City performer probably feels this way — that she believes she was part of a “golden age” for the troupe’s touring company, during which future icons like Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert were involved.

Cecily Strong

One of the few SNL stars who lasted at least 10 years on the show, Cecily Strong developed her impeccable comedic skills as part of Second City. The Emmy winner spoke to The Chicago Tribune about touring with the troupe on a cruise line of all places.

Chris Farley

Bob Odenkirk was the writer of the iconic SNL sketch in which Chris Farley first performed as motivational speaker Matt Foley at Studio 8H. However, the late comedic first introduced his character at Second City, which is where he was first discovered by SNL creator Lorne Michaels.

John Belushi

Before John Belushi made history on SNL, his rise in the comedy world began at Second City. It was at the company’s Chicago club where Belushi met Dan Aykroyd, starting a legendary partnership that led to the creation of, arguably, the best SNL-inspired movie, The Blues Brothers.

Bill Hader

Bill Hader’s experience with show business dates back to when he worked as a production assistant on the set of movies like the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led Collateral Damage, as he told Conan O’Brien once. However, it was his days performing with Second City that really paved the way for the star and co-creator of Barry to eventually join SNL.

Tim Meadows

Tim Meadows’ Second City stint began in 1989, when he began writing and performing revues like The Gods Must Be Lazy. Two years later, he began what would be a record-breaking run on SNL at the time, lasting 10 seasons, during which he made Leon “The Ladies Man” Phelps a household name.

Gilda Radner

Even before debuting on SNL (then called NBC’s Saturday Night), Gilda Radner became acquainted with fellow Not-Ready-For-Primetime Players like Dan Aykroyd as part of The Second City. It was there that she created Emily Litella, who went on to become an all-time great “Weekend Update” guest for her tendency to misunderstand the topic she was editorializing.

Mike Myers

Many of Mike Myers’ best characters who are most often associated with SNL were actually first introduced during his time with The Second City. The Canadian-born comic debuted Wayne Campbell and German talk show host Dieter as part of the troupe, specifically.

Jason Sudeikis

Jason Sudeikis actually had a fair amount of experience with improv even before he joined Second City, having trained at Chicago’s Annoyance Theatre and iO and forming J.T.S Brown early on. The future Emmy-winning Ted Lasso cast member was even a founding member of Second City’s Las Vegas branch before becoming an SNL writer in 2003 and, eventually, joining the cast.

Vanessa Bayer

As part of The Second City Touring Company, Vanessa Bayer performed in productions like Jewsical: The Musical and Girls’ Night Out: Uncensored. Soon after, she was on SNL impersonating Miley Cyrus, playing Jacob, the Bar Mitzvah Boy, and other memorable performances that eventually earned her an Emmy nomination the year she left Studio 8H.

Mary Gross

The versatile Mary Gross had a very successful run at Second City, having won a Joseph Jefferson award for her performance in the company’s revue of Well, I’m Off to the Thirty Years’ War in 1981. That same year, she joined the SNL cast, alongside fellow Second Citizen Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tim Kazurinksy, and would later star alongside other veterans in Christopher Guest’s music movie favorite, A Mighty Wind.

Tim Robinson

Tim Robinson would actually find even greater success following his SNL exit as the star of his Netflix sketch comedy series, I Think You Should Leave. His pre-SNL career involved a stint at Second City when he was just a teenager, according to Vulture.

Aidy Bryant

Aidy Bryant’s time with The Second City started when she enrolled in Columbia College’s comedy studies program, which allowed her to train full-time with the company. She would perform with Second City Theatricals on Norwegian Cruise Line alongside Cecily Strong before they both were cast on SNL in 2012.

David Koechner

After studying under iO co-founder Del Close, David Koechner — also known from the Anchorman movies and despicable The Office character, Todd Packer — joined The Second City and performed in revues in Rolling Meadows, IL. Alongside fellow future SNL performers Nancy Carell and Rachel Dratch, he performed in the company’s very first long-form improv show, “Lois Kaz.”

Alex Moffat

As a Chicago native, Alex Moffat has quite a bit of experience with the city’s improv scene, having been a part of iO, Annoyance Theatre, and, of course, The Second City. In 2016, he joined SNL and became best known for impersonating the likes of Tucker Carlson and Eric Trump during this six-year stint.

Jim Belushi

Jim Belushi followed in the footsteps of his older brother, John, by performing on SNL from 1983 to 1985, but similarities between their careers do not stop at Studio 8H. While John was a Not-Ready-For-Primetime Player, the future According to Jim star performed with Chicago’s Second City group from 1977 to 1980.

Mike O’Brien

Some might call Mike O’Brien an actor SNL never quite figured out how to use in sketches, save his funny pre-taped fake biopics, like The Jay-Z Story. Despite this, his Studio 8H stint is predated by plenty of improv studies in Chicago, including training at Second City and performing in a mainstage production of “America: All Better.”

Robin Duke

Robin Duke is one of the few SNL alums who had previously starred on The Second City’s SCTV. Her best-known work from Studio 8H is, just about, the perpetually annoying Wendy Whiner.

Chris Redd

There is actually a bit of a gap between Chris Redd’s time as a Mainstage understudy at The Second City (with which he toured both the United States and Europe) and his 2017 SNL debut. After leaving Second City, he had roles on TV shows like Empire and appeared in The Lonely Island’s 2016 mockumentary, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Brian Doyle-Murray

Bill Murray’s older brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, is an alum of both the Toronto and Chicago branches of The Second City, having served in the troupe in the early 1970s. In the early 1980s, he was a featured player on SNL, most notably as a “Weekend Update” host. 

Tony Rosato

Tony Rosato is probably best known for playing bumbling kitchen chef Marcello on SCTV. The late, Italian-born comedian never quite achieved an SNL moment as memorable, having joined the cast during the much-maligned first season without Lorne Michaels as EP.

Horatio Sanz

Horatio Sanz became a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade with other comedians he met while taking classes at The Second City. Some of those same comedians wound up sharing the stage with him on SNL, during which he appeared in multiple sketches that did not go according to plan, sometimes due to his own laughter.

Peter Aykroyd

Peter Aykroyd briefly became an SNL cast member in 1980 after his older brother, Dan, left the show. The late Emmy-winning writer and actor also had a stint at The Second City in common with his sibling.

Jerry Minor

While living in Detroit, Jerry Minor started writing and performing with other local sketch comedy groups before getting into improv at The Second City’s mainstage. In 2000, he was cast on SNL for what would be one season, during which he, most notably, played Grand Master Rap and impersonated notable figures like Al Sharpton.

Tim Kazurinsky

Tim Kazurinsky might be better known for his time at The Second City in the 1970s than his SNL stint in the early 1980s. In fact, he might even be better known for writing movies like About Last Night and starring in the likes of Police Academy than both.

Nancy Carell

It was while they were both performing for The Second City where a woman then known as Nancy Walls met her future husband, Steve Carell. However, between the two of them, she was one who became an SNL cast member for a year in 1995.

While a spot on SNL is something most aspiring comedians long for, it is still an amazing honor to have The Second City as their first gig.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell shared the screen in Shawn Levy’s 2010 crime comedy, Date Night, and nearly a decade-and-a-half later, the Emmy Award-winning actors will reunite for a new streaming series, The Four Seasons. At some point in the near future, anyone with a Netflix subscription will get to see two of the funniest pop culture figures of the 21st century take to the small screen with an adaptation of a classic romantic comedy about a group of friends who like to spend their vacations together and face all kinds of obstacles along the way.

If this is the first you’re hearing about the new Netflix show, don’t worry, because we’re about to break down everything we know about it, including its ever-growing cast, when production is supposed to kick off, and who else is working on the project behind the scenes. Here’s what we know about The Four Seasons…

What Is The Four Seasons Premiere Date?

Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for The Four Seasons. However, considering production has yet to kick off (more on that later) and the series wasn’t included in Netflix’s most recent sizzle reel (as of June 2024), we probably won’t see the Tina Fey and Steve Carell show on the 2024 TV schedule. 

That being said, there’s a good chance we will get to see the show for ourselves at some point in 2025. Netflix, not restrained to the fall and spring season premiere format used by traditional network and cable channels, could drop the show at any point for viewers, so keep watching for updates.

The Four Seasons Cast

When The Four Seasons does eventually make its way to Netflix, it will bring with it an outstanding group of actors, one that will be led by Tina Fey and Steve Carell. And while not everyone in the Four Seasons cast has announced at the time of this writing, the group of actors joining the two stars is shaping up nicely. Let’s take a look now.

Tina Fey

In June 2024, Neftlix Tudum confirmed that Tina Fey would be leading The Four Seasons, though the outlet didn’t reveal any details about her character. The Saturday Night Live alum, who is also a member of the Five-Timers Club, has a storied career on the small screen with iconic shows like 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Only Murders in the Building, to name just a few. 

Steve Carell

Steve Carell, who is no stranger to the TV comedy, was confirmed to be a member of the Four Seasons cast by Netflix in June 2024. Carell, best known for his longtime portrayal of Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch regional manager Michael Scott on The Office, has also popped up on shows like Strangers with Candy, The Morning Show, and The Daily Show where he was a correspondent from 1999 to 2005.

Colman Domingo

At the same time it was confirmed that Fey and Carell would be leading The Four Seasons, Netflix also announced that Colman Domingo, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Rustin, would be joining the cast. Domingo was a major force on Fear the Walking Dead throughout the show’s eight-season run, and is also set to appear in Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, in which he’ll play Joe Jackson in the upcoming music biopic.

Erika Henningsen

In June 2024, Variety announced that Erika Henningsen, who previously played Cady Heron during the Broadway production of Mean Girls, was also joining the cast. Prior to signing on for The Four Seasons, her credits included shows like Harlem, Hazbin Hotel, and Girls5eva. Like the rest of the actors announced so far, nothing has been revealed about Henningsen’s role at this time.

The Four Seasons Is Based On The 1981 Rom-Com Of The Same Name, Which Followed Three Couples Who Vacation Together

Netflix hasn’t revealed any story information about The Four Seasons at this point, but the streamer has announced that it will be based on the 1981 romantic comedy film of the same name. Written and directed by M*A*S*H star Alan Alda (who also appeared in the lead role), this star-studded rom-com saw acting legends Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Len Cariou, Sandy Dennis, and Jack Weston play three couples who vacation together each season (hence the title). The group dynamic is thrown into disarray, however, when one of the friends gets divorced and brings his new girlfriend on their latest holiday.

The movie, which played on couple and friend dynamics, social issues, and other topics, was previously adapted into a short-lived CBS series of the same name.

Tina Fey Wrote The Four Seasons With Longtime Collaborators Lang Fisher And Tracey Wigfield

Much like Alan Alda, who wrote and directed the original movie, Tina Fey’s responsibilities with The Four Seasons go further than appearing on screen. Netflix has announced that Fey, whose writing credits include Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and 30 Rock, also wrote the new series. But she didn’t do it alone, as she adapted the project with the help of Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, who have previously worked on shows like 30 Rock, Never Have I Ever, and Peacock’s Saved by the Bell reboot series.

The Four Seasons Will Consist Of Eight Episodes

Like some of the best shows on Netflix, The Four Seasons won’t have a terribly long first season, as the streamer has announced that it has ordered eight episodes. The duration of those eight chapters has not yet been revealed at this time, but we can expect each installment to be anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes in length and most likely closer to the short end.

It also hasn’t been revealed how those episodes will be released. It could be an all-at-once model or Netflix could do what it has done with the likes of Bridgerton, Emily in Paris, and the upcoming Cobra Kai Season 6 and release the show in parts.

Production Will Kick Off Later In 2024

An exact start date has not been announced, but production is slated to kick off on The Four Seasons at some point later in 2024. This news came from Netflix itself, which made the reveal when announcing Colman Domingo’s casting. 

The original movie was set in locations like a cabin in the woods, a sailboat, a university inn, and a ski lodge, and if the show follows the source material closely, then we can expect to hear about production taking place all over the United States by the time it’s said and done.

Expect to hear much more about The Four Seasons in the coming weeks and months. And while you wait, now would be a good time to look back on some of the best romantic comedy TV shows to ever hit the small screen.

There aren’t many comedians with better track records than Tina Fey. The former Saturday Night Live head writer has done everything from sketch comedy to making movies to television to Broadway to publishing, and she’s found success in pretty much everything she’s tried. It’s a credit to her wide variety of interests, as well as her wit which has proven to be applicable to pretty much everything she’s tried.

All that success is also a credit to how widely accessible her comedy is. That’s not to say she’s never doing high concept bits or niche material, but a lot of what she finds funny is broadly relatable. Her perspective also feels entirely reasonable, which is probably why she often plays the straight woman with a biting wit in a lot of her roles.

If you’re looking for a laugh or just a reminder of why Tina Fey is such a national treasure, here are some of her funniest and most enjoyable quotes.

“Some people say ‘Never let them see you cry.’ I say, if you’re so mad you could just cry, then cry. It terrifies everyone.”

This quote is from Tina Fey’s best-selling page-turner Bossypants, and it’s a perfect example of the comedian’s style. It’s a razor-sharp amalgamation of a joke, an honest assessment, and thoughtful life advice. You don’t want to be the person who cries all the time, but sometimes an unexpected cry can cause everyone to stop and actually work to improve the situation.

“Whitney Houston’s cover of “I Will Always Love You” was constantly on my FM Walkman radio around that time. I think that made me cry because I associated it with absolutely no one.”

Tina Fey has been married for more than two decades now, but once upon a time, she was alone and being bombarded by songs about love. We’ve all been there, silently listening to a song that’s meant to glorify a relationship that we can’t connect with in the slightest. As that type of music goes, however, better it be Whitney Houston than many of her competitors. 

“Living a lie will eat you up inside. Like that parasite I got from eating sushi on Amtrak”

This quote is from 30 Rock, and it’s perfectly in keeping with her character, who thinks about food incessantly and is always willing to take a chance on risky dishes. As a big sushi fan, I get the impulse, and as someone who has been burned before, I relate to the downsides. 

“Why are my arms so weak? It's like I did that pushup last year for nothing!”

I'm always here for some good self-deprecating humor, and that type of comedy is often a central part of Tina Fey’s schtick. Her 30 Rock character Liz Lemon took a lot of jabs at herself, but because she was also a successful career woman with hilarious one-liners about other people too, the jokes about herself never felt awkward or uncomfortable, just hilarious. 

“(Lovers?) Oh that word bums me out unless it’s between meat and pizza.”

While I'm not someone who's opposed to pineapple myself, there's no real doubt that meat pizza, or maybe meatza, is a national treasure. If you think you’re too good for it, you can exit out of this article and go find something else to read. Or, you can use some common sense, cancel whatever plans you have and order a meat lovers pizza for dinner tonight. Go ahead, thank me later.

"Oh, Pete. That's later. Maybe we'll be dead by then."

A lot of Tina Fey jokes ride that line between morbid and life-affirming. I can't get this one in particular out of my head, because it's a perfect example of taking the common premise of people telling you to do stuff because you have a limited amount of time, and it recommends you not do stuff because you have a limited amount of time. It’s just a well-crafted joke. 

(On Why She Didn’t Take A Longer Maternity Leave) “I had to get back to work. NBC has me under contract; the baby and I have only a verbal agreement."

Tina Fey missed about a month and a half of SNL episodes after she gave birth to her daughter back in 2005. She was asked by reporters why she returned to the show, and she dropped that fantastic quote about being more contractually tied by NBC than her daughter. The tongue-in-cheek response simultaneously is great because it's very funny, but also simultaneously says a lot.  

"I want to roll my eyes right now, but the doctor says that, if I keep doing it, my ocular muscles might spasm and eject my eyeballs."

Sometimes being intelligent and judgmental is a tough combination. It leads to a lot of eye rolls, which Tina Fey hilariously made light of with this joke about being so frustrated it’s causing medical problems. In her defense, sometimes trying not to react with your face to something really stupid feels like it’s going to cause a medical problem too.

"I had a great time doing (Sarah Palin) but it was one of the strangest things that's ever happened to me. You can grow up thinking, ‘I want to be on Saturday Night Live one day’ or ‘I want to be in a movie someday’, but you never think, ‘I hope there's a politician who looks just like me.’

Tina Fey has spoken often about not being particularly into impressions, but sometimes the perfect character finds you. The comedian talked about that in an interview with The Times in which she admitted it was an opportunity she did absolutely nothing to earn but found a lot of success in doing. 

“If reality TV has taught us anything, it's that you can't keep people with no shame down.”

Because the show involves a lot of creative types and actors with big personalities, 30 Rock spends a lot of time grappling with fame and all the various opportunities out there. In those instances, Fey’s Liz Lemon is often the detached observer, and none of her quotes have ever rang more true than this one.

"How many of you have ever felt personally victimized by Regina George?"

I struggled with how many Mean Girls quotes to put on this list because it feels like there so many that have entered popular culture. Tina Fey wrote them all, but I picked this one, as it’s the only one she personally says in the movie. After Mean Girls' Regina George gives a speech about how she shouldn’t have to be involved in a group therapy session because she didn’t do anything wrong, Fey’s character shames her in the best possible way; Fey later said it felt like deja vu to re-film the gym scene for the 2024 movie.

"I believe that all anyone really wants in this life is to sit in peace and eat a sandwich." 

Have you ever met someone whose mood didn’t at least momentarily improve by eating a really delicious sandwich? OK maybe Sally from When Harry Met Sally and a number of other picky orderers in some of the best rom-coms. Regardless, everyone always obsesses over life’s big decisions and rightfully so. Choices like who to marry and whether to have kids are certainly important, but sometimes the thing that has the biggest effect on our daily happiness level is ordering the right thing off the menu.

“You can’t be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide, overthinking it. You have to go down the chute.”

I love this quote because it’s both a funny observation and great life advice. We’ve all seen that kid at the top of the waterslide (or woman on The Amazing Race) who cannot decide whether to go down or not. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and go through the chute because the alternative of not doing it is worse than the risk of doing it.

“You know I can’t wear green, Jenna! The Clinique lady says I have witch undertones.”

One of the best things about Tina Fey’s comedy is simply how she words things. She’s very good at coming up with funny scenarios, but she’s also good at choosing really specific words that make that scenario as funny as possible. The basic joke here of choosing or not choosing certain colors because of make-up advice is a solid and relatable one, but the phrase “witch undertones” really boils that cauldron. 

“Realizations are the worst.”

You might think the point of life is self-improvement, but when you realize things about yourself, you have to actually work to change them. That’s the hilarious premise behind Liz Lemon’s realization about realizations, and it’s extremely relatable. Change is hard, and not changing is so much easier. 

“Really? I already have a drink. Do you think he’d buy me mozzarella sticks?

Sometimes the fastest way to a girl’s heart isn’t through a drink. It’s through mozzarella sticks, which can touch the soul of a certain thirty-something in the way a Long Island Iced Tea cannot. You just need the right dipping sauce though. A good mozzarella cheese stick with a mediocre dipping sauce is an all-time what could have been situation. 

“I want to go to there.”

Most of the quotes on this list involve really clever wordplay or a funny premise, but we can’t have a list of great Tina Fey quotes and not include probably her most famous one from 30 Rock. This is the one, the big kahuna, the line that immortalized Liz Lemon as the true weirdo she is. It’s also, in its own way, a great commentary on who we all are as people. We think we’re smart and clever and above marketing and peer pressure, but sometimes we see something that looks super fun or cool or attractive and just think “I want to go to there.”

"I also have a lot of imaginary arguments with couples on House Hunters: Why can't people look past paint color?"

Is there a more infuriating show in the entire world than House Hunters? Nothing makes me more concerned about our collective problem solving skills than watching people pay 50 grand more for a house because they really liked the backsplash or to Fey’s chagrin, putting too much emphasis on what colors the walls currently are, as if painting isn’t an easy, relatively inexpensive task. 

"Did you just stick your gum under my coffee table?"

Tina Fey plays the straight woman in Baby Mama; so, most of the memorable quotes are from Amy Poehler’s more outrageous character, but at least a few times a year when I see someone chewing gum around me, I ask them if they’re going to stick it under the coffee table. It’s one of the most memorable moments from an underrated movie, and Fey’s delivery is always perfect, as is her follow-up sarcasm when Poehler accuses her of being the one to stick gum under her own coffee table.

“If you want to make an audience laugh, you dress a man up like an old lady and push her down the stairs. If you want to make comedy writers laugh, you push an actual old lady down the stairs.”

Not every famous comedian is a student of comedy, but Tina Fey has always been very open about how much she loves the art. She moved to Chicago specifically to do Improv, and after she took over as SNL head writer, she gave many interviews about what makes people laugh. The above quote is from a story in The New Yorker, and it’s yet another thoughtful observation from the comedian.

“If I could push a button and five people in the world would die, but I get free cable for life? I’d do it.”

Think about this joke for a second. We all laughed at the fact that Tina Fey would literally kill people to get her cable bill paid because she was being charged such outrageous prices. We related to the impulse to murder on some disturbing level because we were all sick of being charged $150 a month for a bunch of channels we didn’t watch. That’s why it should surprise no one that most people eventually ditched cable as soon as a viable alternative came around.

“If you retain nothing else, always remember the most important rule of beauty, which is: Who cares?”

Tina Fey’s Bossypants struck a chord with millions of readers because it was so honest about so many things. One of those things is beauty, which is a recurring topic. Fey talks extensively about societal expectations and what many women do to be seen, but it’s all summed up perfectly here.

“My ability to turn good news into anxiety is rivaled only by my ability to turn anxiety into chin acne.”

Here’s another example of terrific humor that’s self-deprecating but very relatable. We all can identify with overthinking something, and we can all identify with the annoyances of chin acne, especially when it feels like it was caused by us stressing ourselves out too much.

“Lesson learned? When people say, "You really, really must" do something, it means you don't really have to. No one ever says, "You really, really must deliver the baby during labor." When it's true, it doesn't need to be said.”

People are always telling us we must do something, but an overwhelming majority of those things we must do are really just recommendations. I’ll get to the art gallery eventually. It’s not the most important thing on my to-do list, at all.

“There ain’t no party like a Liz Lemon party because a Liz Lemon party is mandatory.”

Liz Lemon is sometimes a way more self-aware, way more likable version of Michael Scott from The Office. She’s constantly dealing with the stresses and problems of being the boss, while also trying to create a fun work environment but also at the same time trying to actually get work done. It’s an impossible balancing act and leads to situations like throwing mandatory parties she still hopes will be fun.

(On Touring With Amy Poehler) “We are like rock stars. We’re just out and about impregnating people everywhere we go. It’s such a paid mom’s weekend because we go and we’re like, ‘I hear there’s interesting vintage shopping’ in whatever city we go to and then we have a nice lunch. It’s just like (Chris) Rock and (Dave) Chappelle.”

As part of Tina Fey’s goal of dominating every single comedic medium, she started touring with Amy Poehler. The two would visit various cities and talk about all sorts of observations. Fey was asked if the women lived like rock stars while they were gone, and she dropped this hilarious quote about “impregnating people” before admitting they’re hitting up fun lunch spots and vintage shopping.

“I just wish I could start a relationship about 12 years in, when you really don't have to try anymore, and you can just sit around together and goof on TV shows, and then go to bed without anybody trying any funny business.”

This quote probably makes some people sad, but in other ways, it’s also quite optimistic. We all talk about the more obvious things we want in relationships, but the healthiest ones are always the ones where you can be yourself and just connect with your partner in a way that’s honest and supports the rest of your life. That’s what Liz Lemon was looking for, at least.

“Hey, where are my Sno Balls? I was gonna go to the gym later; so, I deserve a treat.”

Listen, as a person who loves working out, this joke's a little on me; however, I recognize that some of us are avid calorie counters and others of us need a little motivation to get to the gym. That’s Liz Lemon, and I, for one, think she deserves her snack for going.

“I’m 37, please don’t make me go to Brooklyn.”

Unlike the Pete Davidsons of the SNL world, Tina Fey was a little older when she got started and had a great run on TV and the big screen in her thirties and forties. Her radical honesty around things like not caring about being cool or, in this case, going to Brooklyn set her apart from the pop culture aimed at younger people and helped her really build a fanbase with people her own age.

"If we are gonna pay this much for crab, it better sing and dance and introduce us to the Little Mermaid!"

Date Night definitely isn’t one of Tina Fey’s most-watched movies, but it’s a fun little ride filled with pretty good jokes. Here, she makes light of how insane the prices are at a fancy restaurant she goes to, while also referencing The Little Mermaid's infamous Sebastian scene, who is an absolute delight and would be worth whatever money you’d have to pay to watch him perform. Not to eat him. I don’t want to think about that.

“We're grown-ups! We don't have to clean up after ourselves.”

Sisters is an underrated gem, and while many of Tina Fey’s lines go hard into obscenity, this is a great example of lighter fare that cracks me up every. single. time. Adults definitely do not have to clean up after themselves. Though you don't want to become one of those people that others think are dirty. Messy is OK. Dirty's another story.

"So grease up them poles because Philly's gonna win and one of these guys is going to punch a police horse."

I really enjoy Tina Fey's brief return to SNL ahead of Super Bowl Weekend 2018. Unlike most of these other quotes imparting some sage-yet-hilarious life advance, her return to the late-night sketch comedy series harkened back to her Philadelphia Hometown roots, and it even made Pete Davidson break character a bit across the stage. If you've ever seen Philly after a sporting event, you should get it. 

So there you have it, a smattering of some of Tina Fey's iconic one-liners, plus some sound advice and occasional laugh-out-loud funny observations. Fey is a gem among former SNL cast members and we're so lucky we have more than 20 years of comedic moments to choose from her oeuvre. 

When Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers started their podcast Las Culturistas in 2016, they didn’t expect people to listen. However, now that Yang’s star is rising quickly since he's part of one of the best Saturday Night Live casts and Matt Rogers is gaining fame for his hilarious Christmas specials, it’s becoming evident that what they say on the internet has an impact. So, when Tina Fey appeared on the show, she gave them some advice about getting famous and making hot takes public, using Ayo Edebiri’s comments about JLo as an example. Now, The Bear star has weighed in on it, too.

What Advice Did Tina Fey Give Bowen Yang?

During a segment of Yang’s Las Culturistas podcast called “I Don’t Think So Honey,” where guests can pop off about whatever they’d like, Tina Fey got real. While her comments were very funny, she also held no bars in giving the SNL cast member advice when it comes to publicly sharing opinions. She started it off by saying:

The point she’s making here is that if you scrutinize a project on the record, it’s possible for it to impact your career down the road. The Mean Girls creator then went on to reference Yang’s status as a member of the Wicked cast, and how that will impact how people see him: 

Mentioning Yang’s upcoming role in the massive Broadway adaptation as well as Ayo Edebiri’s viral comments indicates just how real Fey was trying to be when it comes to how public opinions, especially controversial or hot ones, never disappear. 

The three then dove into a conversation about how fans react to them when they share their opinions about various pop culture topics. They also noted that not only can this affect the public’s view of them, but it could also impact their ability to get jobs, as Fey said. Then, when this clip was posted on social media, Edebiri shared her thoughts on the matter. 

How Did Ayo Edebiri Respond To Tina Fey’s Advice For Bowen Yang? 

Before we get into what the 2024 Emmy winner said about Fey’s comments, let’s take a few steps back, and remember what happened around the time that she hosted an episode of SNL’s 49th Season. 

In the days leading up to the broadcast on the 2024 TV schedule, quotes from a 2020 podcast interview resurfaced, in which Edebiri questioned JLo’s career, calling it “one long scam.” Well, Jennifer Lopez was the musical guest that week, and during the show, the Bear star addressed the drama in a fun way. 

So, getting back to Fey’s comments, the clip from Las Culturistas was posted to Instagram by Yang. After Fey directly mentioned Ayo Edebiri and what she said about JLo, the Bottoms actress weighed in, commenting:

It seemed like Yang and Rogers took this advice from Fey to heart, as the conversation that followed was very sincere. Considering the big year ahead for the SNL performer, it makes sense that he appreciated Fey’s words.

At the end of the year, Bowen Yang will appear in the highly anticipated Wicked: Part One, and on top of that, he’ll continue as a regular and beloved player on Saturday Night Live. So he likely does need to heed this advice as more people start to listen to him, and through this clip, it seemed like he really got a lot out of what Tina Fey told him.

Tom Hanks' Playtone has been wildly successful on the big and small screens. With movies starring Hanks like Cast Away, Charlie Wilson's Way, The Polar Express, and Greyhound, as well as films not starring him, like Mamma Mia and its sequel, the company keeps winning. It has also hit it big on TV with shows like Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and John Adams on HBO, and the CNN series about each decade of the last 60 years. 

Elizabeth Banks - Brownstone Productions

Elizabeth Banks has been on a hot streak with her company Brownstone Productions. It's most notable for the Pitch Perfect franchise, but the company has also co-produced movies like 2019's Charlie's Angels, and that surprise 2023 hit about a bear that gets into something it should not have in the woods, with scary (and hilarious) results.

So far, it's been a huge success with films like Gone Girl and Wild, as well as TV shows like The Morning Show, and Big Little Lies. 

Adam Sandler - Happy Madison Productions

Adam Sandler movies are not for everyone, but wow, do they make him a lot of money through his company, Happy Madison. Though the two films it's named after Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison were not his productions, almost everything he's been in since 2000 is, and it continues to make a ton of money for the actor. The company has even dabbled in TV, most notably with The Goldbergs.

Drew Barrymore - Flower Films

Drew Barrymore's company, Flower Films, has produced or co-produced a ton of movies since she founded it in 1999. With movies like Donnie Darko, 50 First Dates, Fever Pitch, and the Charlie's Angels franchise, it is safe to assume Barrymore has made a pretty penny. Of course, it also produces her daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show. 

Queen Latifah - Flavor Unit Entertainment

Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit Entertainment started out producing movies with moderate budgets that she starred in, like The Cookout and Beauty Shop, but these days, it's been successful on TV with her show, The Equalizer.

George Clooney - Smokehouse Pictures

Smokehouse Pictures is the second company founded by George Clooney after he shut down Section Eight Productions in 2006. Most movies he's starred in or directed since 2008 have been produced under the Smokehouse banner, including Leatherheads, Monuments Men, and The Boys In The Boat, plus other projects like Ocean's 8 and Argo.

Sandra Bullock - Fortus Films

Sandra Bullock may not be acting as much these days, but her production company, Fortus Films, is still humming along. Through the company, Bullock has produced movies like Miss Congeniality and its sequel, Two Weeks Notice, and The Lost City.

Courteney Cox - Coquette Productions

Friends star Courteney Cox and her ex-husband David Arquette started Coquette Productions together in 2004. The business relationship continued after the couple split six years later, though they haven't actually produced much in recent years. 

Brad Pitt - Plan B Entertainment

Plan B Entertainment was started by Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, and producer Brad Grey in 2001. In 2004, Pitt and Grey bought Aniston out in the midst of her split from Pitt. Since then, the company has gone on to major success, with three of its movies, The Departed, 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight all winning Best Picture Oscars, with seven others receiving nominations for the award. 

Sterling K. Brown - Indian Meadows Productions

This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown named his production Indian Meadows Productions after the name of the neighborhood he grew up in outside St. Louis. Though it's just getting started, there are some interesting things on the way as Brown's star continues to shine brightly. 

Margot Robbie - LuckyChap Productions

Margot Robbie may have gotten snubbed at the 2024 Oscars for Barbie, but you can be sure she wasn't snubbed out of money as one of the producers of the hit movie. Robbie's company, LuckyChap Productions, has also produced movies Robbie starred in like I, Tonya and Birds of Prey as well as other projects she didn't star in like Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.

Leonardo DiCaprio - Appian Way Productions

Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions produced two Oscar-winners with The Aviator (which won five) and The Revenant (which won three, including Best Actor for DiCaprio). Through the company, DiCaprio not only produced feature films, but documentaries, as well. 

Nicole Kidman - Blossom Films

While Nicole Kidman's Blossom Films has dabbled in movies, most notably the 2011 rom-com Monte Carlo with Selena Gomez, it has found its biggest successes on the small screen. With shows like Big Little Lies, The Undoing, Nine Perfect Strangers, and 2024's Expats.

Further Films, founded by Michael Douglas, doesn't have the portfolio that others may have on this list, as they seem to have found a niche in thrillers and suspense films like Swimfan, Don't Say a Word, 2017's Flatliners, and the streaming show Ratched.

Natalie Portman - Handsomecharlie Films

Natalie Portman named her company, Handsomecharlie Films, after her beloved dog, and she's put together a nice run of movies. She's produced many of her own projects, like No Strings Attached and Jane Got a Gun, as well as a surprise that she didn't star in, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. 

Eddie Murphy - Eddie Murphy Productions

Eddie Murphy started betting on himself early in his career through Eddie Murphy Productions and it has paid off, big time. Starting with Raw in 1987, the company has produced some huge movies for the legendary comedian, including Coming To America, Harlem Nights, Boomarang, The Nutty Professor, and Norbit. 

Barbra Streisand - Barwood Films

Barbra Streisand has produced many of her own projects through her company, Barwood Films. 1976's A Star Is Born, The Prince Of Tides, and Yentl are a few of the examples of her biggest successes. Barwood has also dabbled in TV movies, like the groundbreaking What Makes a Family in 2001, about a lesbian couple having a child together. 

Alec Baldwin - El Dorado Pictures

Alec Baldwin's El Dorado Pictures has been in the news a lot in recent years due to its connection to Rust and the tragic events that occurred on set. Baldwin has produced quite a few of his own projects through the company over the years and even got into the TV game show space with the revival of Match Game, which he also hosted. 

Tina Fey - Little Stranger

Tina Fey has one of the sharpest wits in Hollywood, so it's no surprise she would use those same brains to produce. From critically acclaimed movies like 2024's Mean Girls to wildly successful TV shows including 30 Rock and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Fey, and her company Little Stranger, continue to crush it. 

Laurence Fishburne - Cinema Gypsy Productions

The biggest success Laurence Fishburne and his company Cinema Gypsy Productions has seen thus far is the sitcom black-ish, but he's also produced some great movies of his own that have flown under the radar, but are worth checking out, in Five Fingers and Akeelah and the Bee.

Jodie Foster - Egg Pictures

It's no surprise that an actor and director like Jodie Foster, who has been in show business for basically all of her life, would be a producer as well. Through her Egg Pictures production company, she produced many of her own projects, starting with Nell in 1994 and Home for the Holidays in 1995. She closed the company in 2002 when she decided that producing wasn't for her. 

Clint Eastwood - Malpaso Films

Without question, one of the most successful companies on this list is Malpaso Films, founded by Clint Eastwood. It has served as the production company for almost all of the films Eastwood has directed and its history stretches back to the mid-1960s. Many of his classic films, including Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Dirty Harry, Escape from Alcatraz, Million Dollar Baby, Sully, and many more have all been produced or co-produced by Malpaso. 

Halle Berry - 606 Films

Halle Berry's 606 Films has an interesting origin story. Though it was formed as part of her deal to star in Extant, the name has an important meaning. She named it after CA Senate Bill 606, a law intended to protect celebrities' children from the paparazzi.

It was an important issue for Berry, and when the company was formed, her partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, said, "606 Films is named for the anti-paparazzi bill, Senate Bill 606, which Halle fought so hard for and won, when no one believed it could be achieved. It truly informs the spirit of our company — making dreams possible, one bill at a time."

Mel Gibson - Icon Productions

Mel Gibson is not the most universally loved man in Hollywood, to be sure, but he's often bet on himself with his Icon Films, and more times than not, it's worked. Since 1989, he's financed many of his own projects completely through Icon, making movies like Hacksaw Ridge, The Passion of the Christ, and We Were Soldiers, plus co-producing maybe his most iconic movie, Braveheart. 

Salma Hayek - Ventanarosa Productions

Ventanarosa Productions, founded by Salma Hayek in 1999 has most often focused on Latin-centric projects, including Hayek's own Frida and the hit TV show, Ugly Betty. Ventanarosa also works throughout Latin America, producing Spanish-language films and TV. 

Will Smith - Overbrook Entertainment

Will Smith grew up in the West Philly neighborhood of Overbrook, which he took for the name of his production company as well, Overbrook Entertainment. Through it, Smith has produced many of his own projects, starting with Ali in 2001. King Richard, for which he infamously won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2022, was also produced by Overbrook. On the small screen, the Netflix hit Cobra Kai is an Overbrook production, as well. 

Amy Poehler - Paper Kite Productions

Amy Poehler's Paper Kite Production has dabbled in movies, but most of its success has been on TV and streaming. With shows like Russian Doll, and Broad City, you can see that Poehler likes sticking with what she knows, comedy. You might be surprised, though, that the company has also found success with reality TV and even feature length documentaries.

Danny DeVito - Jersey Films

Danny DeVito is obviously proud of his New Jersey roots, naming his production company Jersey Films. He also has to be proud of the output from the company with films like Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty. He's found a lot of success on TV too, with Reno 911! Another of Jersey's films, Erin Brockovich, was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2001.

Charlize Theron - Denver And Delilah Productions

Denver and Delilah Productions' first film was Monster, starring the company's founder, Charlize Theron. That seems to have inspired a bit of a theme, as the company has produced other serial killer-related projects, like Netflix's show Mindhunters, and the HBO docuseries Last Call: When a Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York. There are also a few non-serial killer films, like Bombshell, Atomic Blonde, and Murder Mystery.

Will Ferrell - Gary Sanchez Productions

Before Adam McKay and Will Ferrell had their falling out in 2019 and dissolved Gary Sanchez Productions, the company had been wildly successful, releasing some of the funniest movies and shows over the last couple of decades. Step Brothers, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Daddy's Home, Eastbound & Down, and Drunk History are just a few examples. Add to that a little HBO show called Succession, which has won just a few Emmys, and wow, what a success story. 

As this list shows, success as an actor often leads to success in production as well, so actors will continue to open up their own shops, and will continue to crush it, for sure. 

How do we begin to describe Regina George in Mean Girls? Played by Rachel McAdams in one of her best movies, Regina George is the Queen Bee of North Shore High who fights sneaky, steals your crush, and makes sure to come out on top in everything. A real “fetch” fact about how the leader of The Plastics pulled off her meanest “moves” actually comes from the mother of the film’s actress and scriptwriter, Tina Fey.

Mean Girls is not only a movie that teachers can relate to on some level about how teenage girls think, but a comedy film we all can relate to. We’ve all been there in high school where we’re either the quiet one, the nerdy one, or the mean one. Mean Girls star and screenwriter Tina Fey wrote this movie based on her own experiences like one classic real-life moment of the 2004 flick when Regina George tells Cady she looks pretty only to ask her, “So, you agree?” After realizing it was a trap and a sneaky way of saying she didn’t think the 30 Rock star was pretty, she knew she had to put that real-life experience in her movie.

The evil and cunning Regina George wasn’t created out of thin air. Tina Fey was actually inspired to write the character of North Shore High’s Queen Bee based on her own mother with a classy real-life moment that brought the character to life.

The Mean Girls Scene Premise That, Like, Invented Regina George

When Regina George and Cady Heron are talking in the hallway, Regina sees another high schooler pass by her wearing a plaid skirt. She compliments the skirt and asks the girl where she got it. After pointing out to Regina that it belonged to her mom in the ‘80s, the popular high school junior said, “Vintage! So adorable.” This made the vintage skirt-wearer feel happy after.

Just when you think Regina George is trying to do a sweet thing for a fellow classmate, she reveals a twist to Cady. She delivers her true thoughts on the attire saying, “That was one of the ugliest f-ing skirts I’ve ever seen.” This brought back the time when Cady first met Regina and she complimented the bracelet she was wearing. The iconic moment that was just witnessed here was The Plastics leader showing her true colors by saying one nice thing to someone else’s face only to reveal what she was harshly genuinely thinking to another.

The Inspiration Behind Regina George

If you can believe it, the character of Regina George was based on a real-life character in Tina Fey’s life. In a 2004 interview with Blackfilm where the SNL alum was asked if the memorable character was based off of anyone, here's what she said:

There you have it! The real-life inspiration of Regina George came from Tina Fey’s own mother. I know, right? All you have to do is witness your mom lie to a woman about loving her teddy bear shirt only to tell you the harsh truth. It may have appeared harsh in real life to the Baby Mama actress, but it was “so fetch” to see in her movie.

Another source of inspiration for Rachel McAdams to play Regina George was through the advice of Mean Girls director Mark Waters. In a 2014 New York Times interview, The Notebook actress said she was told by Waters to listen to Courtney Love at full volume and watch Alec Baldwin play fun movie side character Blake from the stage-adapted film Glengarry Glen Ross. Those are some awesome comparisons as all you have to do is hear Courtney Love scream “Someday, you will ache what I ache” and Blake verbally abusing the salesmen of his firm to feel the power of being on top.

It looks like the character of Regina George was based on a number of inspirations like Tina Fey’s mom, Courtney Love's music, and Alec Baldwin's character from Glengarry Glen Ross. The original Mean Girls has remained a vital part of pop culture in the decades since its release, and is widely considered one of the best teen movies ever. North Shore High School is back in theaters with the new musical Mean Girls movie, which has spent weeks at #1 for the box office. Tina Fey reprise her role as Ms. Norbury on top of writing the screenplay, and spoke to CinemaBlend about the scene that gave her deja vu, being quoted saying "this is a little weird."

A big reason why Mean Girls is such a successful property is because of the hilarious writing by Tina Fey. CinemaBlend's Mean Girls review was overwhelmingly positive, thanks to the new movie's mixture of new and old. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with Fey before the movie's release, where she shared what it was like becoming Ms. Norbury again. As she told me: 

I mean, can you blame her? Fey and Meadows were the only actors from the original Mean Girls cast who reprised their roles on the new movie musical. And for Tina Fey, that meant basically wearing the same costume and even delivering some of the same lines. Deja vu is certainly understandable.

The new Mean Girls cast crushed it, but longtime fans were pleased to see some familiar faces in the movie. Tina Fey shared how important it was to bring surprises for the hardcore fans, including the revelation that Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall were a couple this time around. And having Meadows on set with her helped the actress/screenwriter return to her signature role. 

While the OG Mean Girls is endlessly quotable, the new movie made some notable changed to that beloved movie. Obviously the biggest change is the addition of musical numbers, as the new Mean Girls in adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical of the same name. Tina Fey didn't belt anything out through the movie's runtime, but she wrote the lyrics, having collaborated with husband Jeff Richmond on the score for the stage play.

The Mean Girls movie musical was one of the most anticipated movies on the 2024 release schedule, and had big shoes to fill. The beloved 2004 teen movie has some iconic movie moments and quotes from the film have lived on in the hearts and minds of fans. One of the lines that have stood the test of time is: “Four for you Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco,” which happens when the comedic character Damian is handing out Christmas candy to a classroom. The line delivery is perfect, and as a result, the scene became iconic. There has been a lot of intrigue about the OG Glen Coco, and how he ended up in Mean Girls, and the story is almost as amazing as the hilarious movie moment. 

The Glen Coco Moment From Mean Girls

In the film, new girl Cady Heron and her unpopular artsy friends Damian and Janice try to infiltrate the popular group of mean girls to take them down. They do this through Cady befriending the group, and becoming a popular girl herself while simultaneously messing with their heads. One way they do this is getting into the head of popular girl Gretchen Weiners, who is secretly very insecure about her friendship with the other popular girls. When it comes time for the students to exchange Christmas candy grams, Cady and her friends arrange for Gretchen not to receive any, but for the other students to receive many. 

Damian, dressed as Santa Clause, goes into Gretchen’s class to hand out the Christmas candy, and makes a big show of handing them out to many students in the class, especially someone named Glen Coco. His enthusiastic excitement for Glen Coco is quickly followed by a blazé comment about Gretchen receiving nothing from her friends. He says:

It is very memorable, and is still a hilarious movie moment to this day, especially as audiences are revisiting the film with a Paramount+ subscription. Glen Coco may not be a significant character in the film, and serves no other purpose than to be showered with Christmas Candy, but the hilarious line reading has lived on. Despite Glen Coco having zero lines, he has become somewhat of a cinematic icon, and is now sharing his story. 

How The Real Glen Coco Actor Was Cast In 2004’s Mean Girls

While the behind-the-scenes stories from Mean Girls have been widely reported, the intrigue around Glen Coco has not dissipated. When the actor was interviewed by Dazed, he opened up about his experience working on one of the best high school movies ever, and what he thinks about the scene being such a stand out moment. That actor, who’s name is David Reale, actually auditioned for a role in the film, however ended up not getting cast. Reale told the publication: 

Despite this, he wandered onto the set one day out of curiosity and in search of free food. The result was being a part of movie history. He continued:

Even though Reale didn’t get paid, he got the satisfaction of being in a great, iconic moment in one of the best movies of the '00s. The fact that Harry Styles was thought of to take over the no-line role certainly speaks to its importance, and it must be fun for Reale to revisit after all these years. While Reale didn’t reprise his role in the well-reviewed 2024 version of the film, he will always be the true Glen Coco for many of us. 

The 2004 Mean Girls was a staple of sleepovers when I was growing up. There’s no way to quantify how many times I’ve seen the movie, but it’s enough to be able to quote the entire thing front to back without it needing to be on. Naturally, when this movie, that's one of the best of the 2000s, was turned into a Broadway musical in 2017, and then a movie musical on the 2024 film schedule, I had to see it. However, despite the latest take on Mean Girls' positive reviews, it was not for me.

As a fan of both the original movie and musical adaptation, I was excited when the musical movie was announced. I became a fierce advocate for the fact that it wasn’t a remake since the trailer left many confused due to the lack of songs. Plus, I was fully behind the Mean Girls cast full of Gen-Z actors. I wanted to love this new version of the story, unfortunately, I left the theater with a ton of mixed feelings and none of them were fetch. 

The Cast Is Talented, But They Were Stuck In The Shadows Of The Original Ensemble 

Anytime an original story gets adapted in a new form, actors have a chance to breathe new life into beloved characters and make them their own. It worked for Mean Girls on Broadway because the medium was so different from the original, and it was hard to compare the two. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for the Tina Fey-penned flick, at least in my opinion. 

There’s no denying the new cast is talented and has the acting credits to back it up, but something was lacking in their performances. Even hard hitters -- like Reneé Rapp (who reprised her role as Regina after portraying her on Broadway) and Auli’i Cravalho -- who carried the movie fell into the shadows of Rachel McAdams and  Lizzy Caplan’s portrayals. 

As for our Cady, Angourie Rice, I've been a fan of hers for years now, but there was something seriously lacking in her portal of Mean Girls' leading lady. And while Christopher Briney might be a heartthrob of The Summer I Turned Pretty, making viewers declare themselves as Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah, he didn’t seem to bring that same charm to the role of Aaron Samuels. 

Again, I am a fan of all these actors; they all have long careers ahead of them, but I don’t think this movie was the right fit for them. I’d much rather have seen this ensemble in an entirely new, original story separate from the Mean Girls universe. 

Most Of The Updates To The Script Work, But They Could Have Gone Farther 

Comedy movies don’t always age well, and there are plenty of jokes in the 2004 movie that would definitely not land with modern audiences. Aware of this, Fey adjusted the more problematic jokes and for the most part, it works! The SNL alumni  (and potential future showrunner) went even further with her modern adaption by leaning into the social media craze, and she also changed character elements of the original — like Janis’s sexuality and history with Regina. 

The thing is, I think the movie could have gone further. For instance, the Burn Book is a classic moment of the original when social media hardly existed, but in today’s age, a physical book of gossip and rude comments seems outdated. It would have worked better if the Burn Book was some kind of anonymous account the ladies shared that Regina could have made public to the school during her revenge. 

There’s also the Regina of it all. Fey embraced the fan theories that the 2004 version of Janis was actually a lesbian and just not out/aware of her sexuality yet by making the 2024 version an unapologetic lesbian. However, she failed to do the same with Regina George. For nearly two decades, queer women have analyzed and read the Queen Bee in the original movie as a closeted lesbian. Even Reneé Rapp, who is bisexual, told The Times that she brought her own queerness to the role and definitely didn’t play her as a “straight girl.” 

In a time when queer stories are so important, especially for women, it seems like a total missed opportunity not to explore the nature of Regina’s sexuality in a more complex way. I understand why they didn’t, since Fey and the team wanted to stick closer to the original sources, but my point still stands. 

If they really did want to make a modern version of this beloved tale, they should have shot for the stars and created a whole new story for this Gen-Z cast to play with (and help us all erase the terrible Mean Girls 2 movie from our memory in the process). 

If They Wanted To Give Love To The Musical, They Should Have Professionally Shot It

My biggest issue with the Mean Girls movie is that it shouldn’t have been a traditional movie to begin with. I understand Tina Fey and the rest of the team wanted to bring elements of the musical, like the songs and the original movie, together to create something new, but it just didn’t work. 

Both original pieces are spectacular on their own, and they didn’t need this weird hybrid to exist. In my opinion, the movie would have worked better had they gone the Hamilton route and actually filmed a performance of the Broadway musical. After all, the Tony-nominated musical had its New York run cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What better way to bring it back than assembling a new cast and filming it for the masses? 

Not only would this have made it clear that the movie wasn’t a direct reboot of the original, but it would have shown audiences how spectacular the songs and performances are in their true form. As the movie stands now, many of the songs land flat and feel out of place, especially the two that open the movie thrusting audiences into the musical world with no warning. Maybe it's not such a bad thing that so many of the tongue-in-cheek songs were left off the soundtrack after all. 

Maybe my love for the original runs too deep and I’m just nitpicking (since Cinemablend's Dirk Libbey, who has never seen the original Mean Girls loved it), or maybe the critics’s high praise is wrong and the fan scores actually should be trusted this time. Whatever the case, I implore everyone to go see Mean Girls, and form their own opinions before giving into the social media fodder.

The new Mean Girls musical won the box office its opening weekend and critics overall liked the movie. Our own Mean Girls review was solid. But Lindsay Lohan and her family are a bit less in love with it now than they might have been. Reps for the original Mean Girls star have gone on record that Lohan is “hurt” by a joke that’s in the film, in which she appears. And now the actress's father has fired back himself.

The issue at hand involves a line in the film that is part of a montage of social media posts. Megan Thee Stallion appears and, in reference to the film’s Cady Heron, played in the new Mean Girls cast by Angourie Rice, says “Y2K fire crotch is back.” It’s a reference to Lohan, who played the same character in the original film. But it is also a reference to a famous TMZ video in which oil heir Brandon Davis, alongside Paris Hilton, used the term referring to Lohan, setting off a feud between the young stars.

Since TMZ is at the center of the controversy, it’s perhaps fitting that TMZ spoke with Michael Lohan, father of Lindsay, who told the site he was “pissed” over what he called a “disgusting comment.” Neither Tina Fey nor Megan Thee Stallion have commented on the line yet, so it’s unclear if this was something scripted or ad-libbed by the singer. 

The fact that the new Mean Girls movie and the original film’s star have found themselves on opposite sides is even more of a surprise because Lindsay Lohan also appears in the new movie. Calling it a cameo would even be an understatement, as it’s a small, but significant, performance as the hedge of the mathlete competition. Lohan’s appearance in the new Mean Girls was a big deal for the musical and something that was successfully kept secret until the movie’s release, something which has become increasingly difficult in the age of social media.

Of course, that role wouldn’t have made Lohan privy to other scenes in the movie, but it’s clear that nobody thought to run the joke by the actresses, as she was blind-sided by it when she saw the finished product. Tempers are hot now. Time will tell if this is an issue that will die down and be forgotten, or if there is real anger here that will have long-term repercussions. 

How the battle will impact the movie is also a question. We could see box office numbers stay higher if many people rush to the theater to see Lohan’s cameo alongside the joke that upset here. But we could just as easily see numbers plummet if there is a large contingent of potential viewers who decide to sit out the Mean Girls musical because it was so mean to Lindsay Lohan. 

Saturday Night Live has been more than successful for nearly five decades now, and a lot of that is in great part due to the leadership of series creator Lorne Michaels. He’s guided the iconic sketch comedy institution through its various eras and helped form some of the best SNL casts. In more recent years though, some have wondered just how much longer the now 79-year-old producer might continue to steer the ship. With that, he just made some interesting comments about his future and the show’s – as well as how Tina Fey might figure into those plans. 

The thought of the media giant leaving SNL is somewhat hard to fathom, considering just how synonymous he is with the program. However, when it comes down to it, one must know when to hang up their coat and call it a career. The Tommy Boy producer was at the 75th Primetime Emmys this week when he was asked about retirement and who he believes could succeed him. He admitted that he has indeed thought about it and referenced an upcoming milestone for the show when sharing a potential timeline for his plans: 

This isn’t the first time that Lorne Michaels has shared such sentiments in regard to the 50th anniversary. In December 2021, Michaels seemed to be eying retirement, saying that he’s committed to staying with the series at least up to that point. The fact that he re-emphasized that intention during his interview with ET seems to mean that he’s serious about this. That, of course, poses the question of who might take over the hot seat when he closes out his career. Later during his red carpet chat, Michaels was directly asked about Tina Fey possibly taking over the job. He definitely doesn’t seem opposed to the idea of the comedian, who he’s very close with, taking the job, but she may not be the only person in contention:

Few would deny that the Baby Mama star would be a great fit for the big job for multiple reasons. She’s without a doubt one of the funniest performers to ever take the stage at Studio 8H and understands the ins and outs of how the series works. Just this week, she showed off her signature humor when reviving her and Amy Poehler’s Weekend Update for an Emmys segment. Additionally, she has plenty of experience as a producer, even having worked with Lorne Michaels in that regard. (Michaels even gave her a note on 2004’s Mean Girls, which was implemented.) 

However, the producer’s comments suggest that others who are currently working at the show could also be in the running. There are honestly a few names within the latest cast that could probably handle it. Series veterans Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost are the first that come to mind for me. 

We still have over a year before the long-running show celebrates the 50-year mark, which gives Lorne Michaels an ample amount of time to figure something out. Like others, I’m curious about who might take over the reins. Though in spite of the uncertainty, most can probably agree that the person who follows in his footsteps has some major shoes to fill.

After getting delayed due to the strikes, the 75th Emmy winners were finally announced, and boy was it an exciting ceremony! In honor of its 75th year, the telecast looked back at some of the most impactful moments in television and some of the biggest shows in the last several decades. It was arguably the best Emmys in years, and that's in large part thanks to some of the cast reunions that took place. Among those reunions, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler came together for Weekend Update, and fans were in love.

The two hosted the fan-favorite Saturday Night Live mock newscast from 2004 to 2006, and they were an iconic duo way before they were famous. They have had their fair share of hosting duties, having hosted the Golden Globes numerous times, plus Fey and Poehler are even touring together. So, it makes sense that they came back together for this. 

For the Emmys, while they didn’t host, -- Anthony Anderson was tapped for that job -- they did return to the newsdesk to present Outstanding Variety Special (Live), and it was like no time had passed. Plenty of fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their thoughts, with one fan wondering why in the world they weren’t asked to host:

Following Jo Koy’s Golden Globes bomb, viewers have been more cautious about hosts in the midst of awards season. While Anderson did a fine job at the Emmys, one person couldn’t help but point out just how great the Weekend Update bit was, and how the SNL alums would have been fabulous hosts:

Both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have occasionally returned to SNL, either to host or make a surprise cameo, since their respective exits. Most recently, Poehler returned to Weekend Update with Aubrey Plaza when the April actress hosted, and she got back into the rhythm of Leslie Knope. 

However, seeing them at the newsdesk together and presenting like they are presenting Weekend Update, not to mention the intro that came right before, will take anyone back 20 years. Even Fox, yeah, that's right, the network, had to get in on it:

Considering it’s been almost 20 years since Fey and Poehler did Weekend Update together, it was a nice surprise during the Emmys. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time they do it either. I could totally see them making a surprise appearance on SNL or bringing this kind of energy to next year's Emmys as the co-hosts. Either way, it’s clear that fans loved it and desperately want more of these two together.

Meanwhile, the 75th Emmys crowned the best in television, with The Bear, Succession, and Beef winning bit. While there were some notable snubs, the ceremony was still one to watch, as so many talented folks took home trophies and a plethora of memorable reunions happened.

Mean Girls the musical hit theaters last weekend, winning the box office as moviegoers donned their pink outfits and sexy mouse ears to see just how fetch the Broadway adaptation was. Tina Fey’s new script included plenty of Easter eggs and pop culture references for savvy fans to pick up on; however, one joke appeared to take a swipe at OG Mean Girls cast member Lindsay Lohan, and The Parent Trap star’s rep has responded. 

There’s a line in Mean Girls about “fire crotch” being back, and those of us who were privy to the gossip blogs of the early aughts immediately recognized the moniker as a derogatory nickname that was once used to reference Lindsay Lohan. It seemed like a strange choice to include in a movie that was otherwise a huge celebration of its 2004 iteration, and sure enough, it seems the original star wasn’t too pleased, as her representative Leslie Sloane told The Messenger:  

The Messenger further reports that a source overheard the actress saying that she was “surprised and taken aback” when she heard the line in the movie, and one could certainly understand why she might feel personally victimized by the reference. 

Back in 2006, oil heir Brandon Davis went on a rant about Lindsay Lohan outside of a nightclub, talking about her vagina and famously calling her “fire crotch” as Paris Hilton could be seen nearby, laughing at the jokes. The unfortunate nickname stuck, and the viral incident ignited a years-long feud between Lohan and Hilton.

The scene in question happens during Megan Thee Stallion’s cameo in Mean Girls, as the rapper appears in a TikTok video with a photo of Angourie Rice’s Cady Heron, who — like Lindsay Lohan’s version of the character — has red hair. Megan Thee Stallion says: 

Tina Fey has not commented on the inclusion of that line as of this writing, but it’s unlikely there was any intention to insult the OG Cady Heron. Lindsay Lohan herself makes a surprise cameo in the Mean Girls musical, appearing as the moderator of the Mathletes competition that Cady competes in.

In fact, Lindsay Lohan has fully embraced her role in the pop culture phenomenon that is Mean Girls, even reuniting with fellow Plastics Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried (who played original Toaster Strudel heiress Gretchen Wieners and weather prognosticator Karen Smith, respectively) in a holiday shopping ad for Walmart.

We’ll have to see if any official reasoning is given for choosing to include the Y2K-era nickname for Lindsay Lohan in the new movie, but in the meantime, you can catch the new Mean Girls movie in theaters now. Revisiting the past through something like the new Mean Girls musical remake can be tricky. Walking a fine line between making references to the past and making something that the crowd seeking out 2024 movies will also dig is challenging, no matter what property tries to do it. 

However, this new spin on the Tina Fey-scripted/Lindsay Lohan-starring comedy strikes that balance rather well. You can tell as much by reading what our own Corey Chichizola highlighted in CinemaBlend's Mean Girls review, but you can also see it in the way this updated version tips its sexy mouse ears to its predecessor. So if it’s grool with you, I’m about to run through the best easter eggs we picked up on when watching the second coming of Regina George and her reign of terror.

Cloverfielding

When Damian (Jaquel Spivey) tries to set up his phone to record the opening number “A Cautionary Tale” with Janis (Auliʻi Cravalho), his fears of “Cloverfielding” are soon realized. Footage of the phone’s tumbling does seem to be a reference to Paramount’s 2008 found footage film, which just so happened to star Lizzy Caplan, the original Janis.

Madame Park

As fans were keen to point out after seeing Mean Girls’ musical trailer, actor Ashley Park plays a comedic cameo role in the film version. Having been Broadway’s original Gretchen, Park can be spotted as Madame Park, the strict French teacher at North Shore High. 

Gretchen Weiner’s Powerful Hair

While extended montages detailing the lore of The Plastics have been ditched, there are still references built into the movie. On top of Bebe Wood’s reinvention of the character landing some extra backstory in songs like "What's Wrong with Me?,” she’s mentioned to very much be in possession of her secret keeping hair.

Regina George’s Beloved Cheese Fries

A throwaway line for Rachel McAdams’ original version of Regina George, the head Plastic’s favorite snack is presented front and center. As Reneé Rapp introduces herself in "Meet the Plastics,” the first thing we see is her placing down a tray adorned by this cheesy delight.

Fetch Has Happened

Lacey Chabert must be beside herself knowing that “fetch” has officially happened. Not only does the term catch on in Mean Girls 2024, but it’s also cited as “slang from an old movie.” It’s a claim that’s out of line, but it’s correct.

So That’s How You Spell Cool Mom?

Regina’s mother is still that cool mom who's ready to help her daughter and friends misbehave. Mrs. George (Busy Phillips) nails that fact to the doors with the presence of an Instagram handle that includes six O’s. Which is confusing, because those letters could be spread through both words or focused on just one. 

A Sexy Costume From The Past

During “Sexy,” the big number for Karen Shetty (Avantika), a whole bunch of sexy costumes are flashed while she records her pre-party TikTok. One of those iconic looks happens to be a reference to that time Cady Heron cut out the nipples on Regina George’s tank top in the O.G. Mean Girls.

She’s A (Sexy) Mouse

One more perfect easter egg in “Sexy” ends the entire song off with a punchline from the past. Running through looks like “Sexy Corn” and “Sexy Eleanor Roosevelt,” Karen finally lands on her own costume. She’s a “sexy mouse.” Duh.

Damian’s Dramatic Performance

Rather than perform Christina Aguleria’s “Beautiful” for North Shore High School’s Winter Talent Show, Damian’s serenade is another Paramount-branded gag. What initially seems like a soulful French ballad turns out to be a translated version of the iCarly theme song. Is now a good time to mention that Mean Girls' remake was originally supposed to be a Paramount+ original?

“Thank U, Next.”

At this point, Damian yelling that phrase feels like a Mean Girls reference that shows the picture is in tune with youth culture. But at the same time, when you consider that this comeback originated in the Ariana Grande song that references this very moment in its own music video, it’s a perfect circle of pop influence.

Heron, It’s Tuesday

Mean Girls is a Tina Fey comedy through and through, and her second draft of history infuses some 30 Rock energy in a neat way. When Cady (Angourie Rice) is asked about her plans for the weekend that becomes her epic party, she remarks that “it’s only Tuesday.” While the NBC sitcom variation on this joke focused on a Wednesday, that day obviously has its own relevance in Girl World.

Trang Pak Still Gets Burned (Book)

While exchange student Trang Pak (Ky Pham) had more of a presence in 2004’s Mean Girls, her infamous subplot was rightfully deleted from the 2024 musical movie. That doesn’t stop her from being called out as “a grostky biotch” in the Burn Book during “World Burn,” so her legacy still lives on. 

Ms. Norbury And Principal Duvall Finally Made It Official

In an act that could suggest Mean Girls is an alternate universe version of its former self, we learn that Ms. Norbury (Tina Fey) and Principal Duvall (Tim Meadows) are actually a couple! I'm glad to see fate pushed these crazy kids together for once.  

Squills Is The New Fetch

Now that we’re in a world where “fetch” has totally happened, it’s time for a new word to be the butt of this legendary joke. And thanks to North Shore’s Mathletes, “squills” is the next linguistic black sheep that’ll “never happen.” We’ll see about that. 

Into The Cady-Verse

As soon as we show up to the Mathletes State Championship (sponsored by Seat Geek), a very familiar face pops up out of nowhere. OG Cady Lindsay Lohan cameos as the host of the epic mathematic showdown, and she gets some pretty funny one-liners with Angourie Rice and her scene partners. 

A Moment Of Composer

If you look at the name plates for Mean Girls’ North Shore mathletes, one of Cady Heron’s teammates has the last name “Richmond.” Which doesn’t feel like a random name from a hat, considering composer Jeff Richmond not only helped give the musical its tunes, he’s also writer Tina Fey’s husband. 

Backwards Logic, A La Karen Shetty

Though Amanda Seyfried admitted to setbacks after playing the original Karen for Mean Girls, her legacy in the role is still felt tremendously. Avantika certainly shows that off throughout the movie thanks to a nameplate necklace that’s always shown as being worn backwards. Which, as it so happens, calls back to that time 2004’s Karen applied a bejeweled “K” on her own chest, in a similarly unreadable fashion.

An Astronomical Change

When Cady blows off her mother (Jenna Fischer) to throw a rager at home, she turns down a very different engagement. Rather than passing up a Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert, the younger Heron is missing out on a Neil Degrasse Tyson event. It’s ok, Cady, we’ve got you covered with Neil’s rants on famous sci-fi movies, in case you’re quizzed.

We Are All Glen Coco

Have you ever wanted to be part of a “Revenge Party?” Well, Mean Girls 2024 is your chance, as the movie gives the audience Glen Coco’s POV when he receives that candy cane haul. And of course, the cast celebrates with a singing chant of, “You go, Glen Coco!”

Now there might be some bits and pieces we missed here and there, but for what it’s worth, these are the Mean Girls easter eggs we spotted in our viewing of this well-played refresh. But if you want to search for some deep cuts we may have missed, then feel free to rewatch the 2004 original.

There are a couple of ways you can take this nostalgic trip, with one method being the use of a Paramount+ subscription. That then frees you up to check out the 2024 musical, whether it's the first or fifth time you'll be doing so. Trust me, you just might want to see this new version again. 

There are few Hollywood friends people love more than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The two comedians famously hosted Weekend Update during their time on Saturday Night Live and later, casually gave fans one of the best award show hosting performances ever. Now, they’re on tour together, living it up like “rock stars.”

Fey and Poehler’s ideas of what it means to be a rock star, however, are a little bit different than the boozy stereotypes. To promote the excellent new version of Mean Girls, as well as their Restless Leg Tour, Fey stopped by The Today Show to chitchat about what's going on in her life and what she gets up to on the road. She joked they’re “out and about impregnating people” before revealing they love to have nice lunches and go vintage shopping. You can read her quote below…

That sounds just positively wonderful, especially the part about watching SNL together. As two of the longest serving cast members in the show’s storied history, they have a unique view into the show they spent so much time on. Fey said the two of them root for everyone but they still can’t help looking at everything through a critical lens. Here’s her explanation of what’s going through her head when she tunes in…

Tina Fey has taken a bit of a non traditional route since leaving Saturday Night Live. Most of the sketch comedy show’s biggest names spend the rest of their careers in high profile movie roles, but the former head writer has done a lot of different things that show off her vast skill set. She’s created multiple television shows, most famously 30 Rock. She’s written books, taken on a variety of interesting acting roles, conquered Broadway and is now on this tour with Amy Poehler that is doing big business all over the country. If nothing else, it’s a testament to just how talented she is and the benefits of carving out a Hollywood career in your own way.
