The long road to the premiere of CIA as the next addition to the Dick Wolf TV universe is coming to an end early in the 2026 TV schedule, with Nick Gehlfuss of Chicago Med fame joining Lucifer's Tom Ellis as the leading men. It was announced a while ago that Gehlfuss would be playing a by-the-book FBI agent opposite Ellis as more of a loose cannon CIA agent. Now, months later, the first look has released to reveal their odd couple dynamic, with some explosions and shootouts to go along with it for good measure.

As a fan of both actors who has also been missing FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International since their cancellations, sign me up for CIA! Check out the footage below:

Nick Gehlfuss opened up to CinemaBlend about being "on cloud nine" in New York City for CIA, but that doesn't seem to be the case for his new character upon meeting Tom Ellis' character. The new CBS drama kicks off when strait-laced FBI Agent Bill Goodman (Gehlfuss) is added to a joint CIA/FBI task force, which results in a partnership with a roguish officer by the name of Colin Glass (Tom Ellis). The rules that Bill knows from his work at the Bureau don't apply to working with Colin at the Agency, and it looks like the duo's partnership will get off to a rocky start.

And they seem to be pretty self-aware of their clashing approaches! About halfway through the first look, Bill says "After you, Oscar," to which Colin responds with "Felix." If the show itself is making comparisons to The Odd Couple, I think it's fair for fans to do so as well! It's a safe bet that CIA will have fewer laughs than that classic sitcom, but the nod makes for a fun moment in the trailer.

The first look does leave me with a few questions, not the least of which is how CIA will fit into the larger Dick Wolf TV universe, if at all. The Wolf Entertainment world is currently comprised of seven dramas that are technically connected after a 2020 crossover: CBS' FBI, NBC's Law & Order shows, and NBC's One Chicago trio.

That said, FBI boss Mike Weiss told CinemaBlend earlier this fall that there's "no crossover from NBC to CBS" nowadays, as there's "a bright line between those two universes." (FBI currently stars three former Law & Order franchise actors as different characters.) Plans for CIA to launch as an FBI backdoor pilot were scrapped months ago, and original showrunner David Hudgins confirmed in the spring that CIA "is its own show" rather than connected to FBI.

But that said, Hudgins departed CIA as showrunner over the summer and was succeeded by Law & Order: SVU vet Warren Leight. Leight then exited back in November, with FBI's Mike Weiss said to be potentially stepping up for the job. The first look doesn't seem like CIA is set in the same world as FBI, but it's hard to say with any certainty after just a minute of footage. At this point, I'm also wondering about Colin Glass as a British CIA Agent, since Tom Ellis is using a British accent for the role.

CIA will premiere on Monday, February 23 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, directly following the winter premiere of FBI Season 8 at 9 p.m. ET. Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss' show is replacing Watson on Monday nights, with the Morris Chestnut-starring medical drama returning to Sundays.

Despite sending its first two spinoffs to the graveyard of shows canceled in 2025 — R.I.P. FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted — CBS’ G-Men franchise is growing larger thanks to the imminent arrival of the alphabetical offshoot previously titled FBI: CIA. Fans questioned the project’s need to exist in place of the other established series, but it looks like all involved are feeling quite bullish about the new concept’s chances, with two big updates cementing the spinoff’s future.

CBS Officially Orders FBI's CIA Spinoff To Series

Network execs appear to have made a big call with the new project, with Deadline reporting that CBS is officially moving forward with a straight-to-series order for the drama offshoot, meaning it's now confirmed to be joining the mothership series during the Fall 2025 TV schedule.

At this point, details are fairly few and far between, so it's not clear exactly how many episodes will be produced from the jump, and whether or not the option for more eps will be in place. But we do know that CBS may be cutting the FBI connective tissue out of the title to simply call the new drama CIA.

The new show is the creation of David Hudgins (FBI: Most Wanted), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), and former CIA officer David Chasteen. It'll follow two partners with opposing personalities, with one being an impulsive rule-breaking CIA officer, and the other being a meticulous rule-following FBI agent, who are assigned to work out of the CIA's New York Station, where they must work through their differences to catch and/or thwart dangerous threats.

The initial CIA plan was to build it into FBI proper as a backdoor pilot, with the two main characters and a third lead meant to be introduced into one of the current season's installments. That plan was delayed and reconfigured a couple of times due to a lack of casting decisions, and then the backdoor pilot idea was avoided entirely in place of a straightforward order.

Lucifer Vet Tom Ellis Cast As FBI's CIA Spinoff Lead

No more casting delays now, though, at least when it comes to locking down the CIA officer side of the new show's duo. For that role, the Dick Wolf-produced drama has cast Tom Ellis, who is arguably best known for his years of portraying the devil himself across six seasons of Lucifer. (Which altered its ending and jumped to Netflix after Fox canceled it three seasons in.)

Ellis will be portraying the less rigid member of the pair, and is described as being a fast-talking loose cannon. Both things that I can easily see the UK actor portraying without stretching his talents too far. Add in a heaping dose of "self-satisfied snark," and it's essentially Lucifer Morningstar with a badge.

Interestingly enough, Tom Ellis was attached to CIA casting reports starting around February, and they seemed to dissipate after a month or so of negotiations. Apparently something changed behind the scenes that was positive enough to sway Ellis to sign on. And once he was confirmed to be on board, CBS was reportedly more eager to work out the series order details.

Tom Ellis may no longer be Lucifer Morningstar, but his latest role sees him in another divine role. The actor was previously cast in Netflix’s new Exploding Kittens series, an adult animation based on the popular tabletop card game. In the series, he voices Godcat, and despite the differences, it’s actually the perfect follow-up.

In Exploding Kittens, Ellis’ God is cast down to Earth as a cat following his behavior in Heaven. Those with a Netflix subscription can watch the series now, as it just premiered on the 2024 TV schedule, and you don’t even need to have knowledge of the card game to binge it all. While it is weird to see Ellis as God after playing his rebellious son, this God is not your typical one.

When it comes to God in the Exploding Kittens world, it’s quickly realized that he is a bit peculiar. He wants to rule all, of course, but he is not the best at it. It’s even worse when he becomes a cat, but he isn’t letting that stop him. Exploding Kittens is certainly a unique series, and Ellis plays Godcat purr-fectly.

Overall, the premise is unconventional, and that’s not even including what actually happens in the series, because the card game itself is not like any other.

Lucifer was also not your typical supernatural series or procedural either, because the Devil solving crimes is not really the first plot you would think of when it comes to him. Without giving too much away, Ellis as Godcat is pretty weird and pretty great at the same time, and, in a way, even reminds me a bit of his time on Lucifer.

Tom Ellis being able to portray both Lucifer and God in completely different ways shows the range that he has as an actor.

Even though he is currently known as Godcat, I can't help but wonder if a return to Lucifer is in the cards (pun intended). Ellis shared what would get him to play Lucifer again while speaking with Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast. He revealed that if it were to be a movie, if the script was good, and if they weren’t doing it for the sake of doing it, he would consider it. Lucifer was saved from cancellation on numerous occasions, and he clearly still has a great relationship with Netflix, so you never know.

Fans should watch Exploding Kittens to see for themselves how Ellis carries himself as Godcat. It wouldn't be surprising if the show became one of Netflix's best series, but that’s for viewers to judge. It is a different role, to say the least, yet one that is the best follow-up for him after his time on the supernatural procedural.

It's been over two years since Lucifer had its bittersweet ending after six seasons, and some people can’t help but wonder what would the Devil be up to now. The fantasy procedural had a rollercoaster of a run, as it was initially canceled by Fox after three seasons in 2018, and Tom Ellis was devastated. Luckily, Netflix swooped in and saved the series, having it go for an additional three seasons before officially ending it in 2021. Despite the rollercoaster of emotions through it all, Ellis admits he would be up for a return, but there’s a catch. 

After Netflix picked up the series, the streaming service initially renewed it for a fifth and final season after Season 4 dropped. However, it was later renewed for another season, which turned out to be the true end, so Lucifer was able to complete its story. Even despite that, Ellis tells Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast that if Lucifer were to come back, it would have to be a movie, and not just any movie:

It would be incredible if Lucifer scored a movie, specifically something like a reunion movie, to catch fans up on where the characters are now and maybe solve one last case, whether human or supernatural. It does make sense, though, that the script would have to be good enough to warrant Ellis and his co-stars returning.

Since the Netflix series did basically wrap everything up, you can’t just undo its events or continue the story without a good reason. The fact that Tom Ellis would be on board to return as Lucifer Morningstar does say a lot. So maybe that could happen in the future. However, the actor does think that it’s better to leave things as is:

While “Leave them wanting more” does make sense, especially since it has been over two years since Lucifer ended, you can’t help but wonder about the characters. Of course, the story itself would need to be the big selling point. For now, it seems like Ellis is content with where and how Lucifer ended. Maybe the series could get some type of reunion in the future, or perhaps even a movie. It would have to be at the right time and involve the right story and people, not to mention the fact that fans would have to be interested. Considering how fans acted when Lucifer wrapped filming, it wouldn't be surprising if they were wanting more, but you never know what could happen.

Even though Lucifer may not be coming back any time soon, there is always the hope that a miracle could happen later down the line. At the very least, as long as fans are signed up for a Netflix subscription, they will be able to watch all six seasons as many times as they want, which is a lot better than nothing.

It’s been over two years since Lucifer came to an end after multiple revivals, and at one point, it didn’t even seem like the show was going to come back at all. Before Netflix gave the fantasy procedural dramedy three additional seasons and a bittersweet ending, Fox gave it the ole’ heave-ho. Apparently, that all came at a pretty awkward time, according to Lucifer Morningstar himself, Tom Ellis, who recently looked back at his show and its two homes.

Lucifer made its debut on Fox in 2016, and it gradually grew into a hit. By the third season in 2018, it didn’t seem like there was any chance it would end until Fox canceled it. While appearing as a guest on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Ellis admitted how it felt getting the news, which came during a weekend he was celebrating the show with a bunch of fans:

It’s definitely disappointing to get that kind of news after being at a fan convention and hearing so many fans share their love for the show. While Ellis had just wrapped up his final day at the convention so he didn’t have to break the sad news to fans, he mentioned how they kept asking for news on Season 4. At the time, he was hopeful that the good news was going to come soon:

By the time Tom Ellis got back to London a couple of days later, Fox still hadn’t officially announced that Lucifer was done. Unfortunately, it only got worse from there, as the Players actor admitted that he was tipped off by someone that the network was going to bury the cancellation announcement by announcing something else at the same time the following weekend. 

Wanting to let the dedicated Lucifans know, Ellis took it upon himself to announce the news on Twitter, making sure it was before Fox had the chance to break the news. When Rosenbaum asked if Fox was pissed, Ellis had just one simple response:

Even though Fox definitely could have handled the cancellation better, at least fans and the cast and crew didn’t have to wait too long for good news. Netflix picked up Lucifer just a month later. This time, they actually listened to the fans, as it was originally supposed to end after Season 5, but Netflix renewed it for a sixth and final season, properly giving Lucifer an end. Fan campaigns don’t always work, but the ones that do are incredible. 

The show may have seen its fair share of protestors and complaining moms, but Tom Ellis saw firsthand how much fans love Lucifer. It was all because of them that the show got saved. It may have switched networks during its run, but the transition to Netflix proved to be a successful one, and it got Lucifer an extra three seasons. 

Fans were willing to sign up for a Netflix subscription to watch their favorite devil and detective duo, and I don’t blame them. And now, all these years later, it's emotional to hear the show's star talk about this terrible moment when the show got canceled, and how the fans helped save it. 

Fans of author Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman comic book series have been hoping, praying, and waiting for Dream’s story to be adapted for many, many years now. After decades of false starts, we’ll finally be able to watch an actual television show based on the ever-popular property once The Sandman can be viewed with our Netflix subscriptions in the near future. While we were all waiting for The Sandman, though, a little show called Lucifer became quite popular, with Tom Ellis’ portrayal of the titular character being based in Gaiman’s Sandman lore. Now that a Lucifer fan has asked why Ellis won’t be reprising his role for the new series, Gaiman has responded, and in a way that all Sandman fans will likely agree with.

What Did Neil Gaiman Say About Why Tom Ellis Isn’t Playing Lucifer In The Sandman?

For those who never got on the Lucifer train when the show was either on Fox or after its move to Netflix after a cancellation that upset many viewers, the supernatural police procedural starring Tom Ellis as the Devil himself, was based on The Sandman spinoff comics by Neil Gaiman. So, it makes a lot of sense that Lucifer fans would want to know why Tom Ellis has been replaced as the mischievous character by Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie. After one fan asked that very question on Twitter, Gaiman responded:

Speak. The. TRUTH, Neil Gaiman! Alright, Lucifer fans, do not come for us! We love Tom Ellis and what he brought to the character on his show. Truth be told though, Gaiman is completely correct. The Lucifer that you got on the Netflix series (which wrapped things up nicely when it ended in September of 2021) was very different from the one in the comics, with his story also being very different. Ellis’ version of Lucifer, if you take away his angelic powers, is basically a really naughty Bridgerton-style rake, while Gaiman’s Lucifer is…way fucking scarier because he cares little for humanity, despite the fact that he also doesn’t make anyone commit evil acts.

As mentioned, the storylines for these (not really) competing Lucifers also diverge quite a bit. Both abandoned Hell to live in Los Angeles and run a nightclub / piano bar called Lux with Mazikeen, but that’s about where the similarities in plot end. So, even though Gaiman (and some comic book fans) still have respect for Tom Ellis’ "lovable" Lucifer, what The Sandman series needed was to create a character more in line with the one seen in those original Neil Gaiman stories and surprise Lucifer viewers.

Hopefully, it won’t be long now for The Sandman (which also stars Tom Sturridge, Jenna Coleman, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Patton Oswalt, Charles Dance, David Thewlis, Joely Richardson, and many more) to debut as part of the 2022 Netflix TV schedule. When it does, you can bet that millions of people will be there to take in all of the supernatural drama, as well as Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer in all of the character’s dangerous glory.

Tom Ellis set the small screen on fire in Lucifer, which wrapped its run on Fox before being resurrected for Netflix. But his latest role, which reteams him with the streaming service, will feature the Welsh actor as we’ve never seen him before - in a first-of-its-kind project based on a popular card game. 

Netflix has announced that Tom Ellis will star in Exploding Kittens, a planned multimedia franchise based on a hit card game. The project will include both an interactive game and an animated series aimed at adult audiences, with both to be released on the streaming service. The former is set to drop on Netflix this coming May, while the first season of the television series is planned for a 2023 debut. 

Sound good? It should also help to know the new Exploding Kittens game will be free for everyone with a Netflix subscription - no in-app fees or charges to keep you from detonating cats to your heart’s content. The game will even incorporate characters and plot points from the upcoming show, allowing viewers to play along in an interactive setting. 

Exploding Kittens will be the first project of its kind for Netflix. The streaming service has released both interactive games and shows in the past, but they have all been standalone entries without any additional content to flesh out their narratives. Even the Bandersnatch series only featured tangential connections to the rest of the Black Mirror-verse. With Exploding Kittens, Netflix will attempt to found a new kind of franchise for streaming services by creating a full world for the accompanying game. 

But just what is Exploding Kittens about (actual exploding kittens notwithstanding)? The plot of the animated series will focus on a heavenly conflict between good and evil, making it a fun callback to Tom Ellis’s stint as the devil himself. According to Netflix, the show will focus on both God and the Devil, who have been somehow transported to Earth in the forms of “chunky house cats.”  In addition to Tom Ellis dulcet tones, Exploding Kittens will also feature the voice talents of Lucy Liu, Abraham Lim, Ally Maki, Mark Proksch, and Sasheer Zamata. 

The streamer hasn’t yet announced who will be playing which roles, although Tom Ellis is the obvious pick to voice Satan. He spent six seasons playing the devilishly devious Lucifer, and it's easy to see how his distinctive timbre could translate to an animated medium, even if it skews holier than Hell's landlord. Either way, it will be the first leading voice role for Tom Ellis in any kind of animated project - his previous credits include only a guest stint as Oscar Wilde on an episode of Family Guy and a short sketch for Robot Chicken.

The supernaturally evil crime drama Lucifer wrapped up its six-season run in 2021, with Netflix having saved the Fox-originated series from cancellation after its third season. Ever since then, news has been pretty quiet about what TV moves star Tom Ellis might make next, but that has now changed, with the actor set to stay within the world of streaming for a lead role in Hulu’s upcoming adaptation of the novel Washington Black.

In the new series, Tom Ellis will co-star opposite the always excellent Sterling K. Brown, who will himself soon be vacating a longtime role as NBC’s This Is Us closes out its mystery-solving final season. And according to Deadline, the new role sounds as if it will lean more into the world of science as opposed to the religion-tinged storytelling of Lucifer. 

For those unfamiliar with the project or with Esi Edugyan’s 2018 novel of the same name, Washington Black tells the 19th century-set story of 11-year-old George Washington Black (Ernest Kingsley Jr.), whose already complicated life slaving away on a Barbados sugar plantation becomes even more dangerous after a shocking death changes the status quo. The narrative will see young Wash, as he is called, looking to Sterling K. Brown’s former refugee Medwin Harris as a mentor, but the relationship he forms with Ellis’ character is also quite profound for both.

Tom Ellis will portray Christopher “Titch” Wilde, an inventor of the steampunk variety described as being eccentric, full of passion and exceedingly enthusiastic, although it’s all in service of cloaking how vulnerable he truly is on the inside. It’s his family’s plantation where the aforementioned death takes place, and it also spurs Titch into taking an awe-inspiring trek through the air with Wash at his side.

Though they’re not related, Titch will take on something of a father-figure role in Wash’s life, though it’s not the easiest relationship for him to foster. Given the traumas he’s faced concerning his own father, Titch definitely isn’t the perfect role model for the young boy, as he is heading for an outcome that could destroy both of their lives.

Obviously, it’s currently unclear how long a project like Washington Black could last, given its literary origin, but taking this role is certainly a big move for Tom Ellis in his post-Lucifer career. The show rounded out 2021 as Netflix’s most-streamed series all around, which comic creator Neil Gaiman was happy to celebrate, so he’s been about as visible as anyone in Hollywood in the past year. While we’d love to see him join the MCU in some capacity, to balance his DC creds if nothing else, it’ll probably help hone his dramatic chops to follow up with a project like the new Hulu series.

While this is his first TV role after Lucifer, Tom Ellis does have something cooking on the big screen. He's set to star in the upcoming rom-com feature Players along with Jane the Virgin vet Gina Rodriguez.

The sixth and final season of Netflix’s Lucifer is premiering later this week, and many are eager to see how things wrap up for the titular Devil and his supporting cast. Following Season 5’s Godly cliffhanger of a finale, the series will be going in a different direction for its final episodes. And recently, Tom Ellis, who portrays the fallen angel, talked about the show’s ending and how things will finally wrap up.

The cast of Lucifer got together to do an interview with EW to discuss the final season and what the characters have been through thus far. The characters, and the actors who portray them, have endured an awful lot since the cheeky Devil first appeared on our TV screens in 2016. Of course, this journey evven includes a few dodged cancellations. Ahead of the show's conclusion, Tom Ellis shared his one hope for the finale along with a few thoughts on the ending:

Lucifer’s transformation into God at the very end of Season 5 sets the stage for a very interesting final stretch of episodes. While specific story details are pretty much unknown, recent reports indicate that fans should be in for something special and nostalgic. There will reportedly be a few callbacks to earlier seasons, as one character will be appearing for the first time since the pilot episode.

In addition, viewers can also look forward to seeing their favorite characters get animated (literally), as the season will feature an animated installment. Such an unconventional installment should stand proudly alongside the series' meta, noir and musical episodes. The episodes will likely be emotional for fans but, given that we're talking about Lucifer, the show is sure to give fans plenty of humor as it takes its final bow.

Last month, D.B. Woodside, who portrays Lucifer’s angelic brother Amenadiel, also shared his hopes for the series' legacy. He's hoping that the fans will stick with it for years to come. It’s obvious that the support means a lot to the cast, and it's understandable. If it weren’t for them, Lucifer likely wouldn't have made it past the Fox cancellation and found its way to the streaming world. There are still plenty of questions to considering going into Season 6 but, as a fan myself, I'm excited to see how this crazy journey comes to an end.

The final season of Lucifer drops on Netflix this Friday, September 10.

After one cancellation and several brushes with ending for good, Lucifer is finally coming to an end with its upcoming sixth season on Netflix. Fans have had to wait through long hiatuses for new seasons in years past, and the release of the second half of Season 5 (complete with musical episode) back in May seemed like it could have meant no new episodes until winter 2022 at the earliest. Now, the Season 6 premiere date has been revealed in a wonderfully devilish way, and there's good news for fans dreading a long hiatus, along with a Tom Ellis promise of more mysteries.

During the Lucifer panel for Comic-Con@Home featuring star Tom Ellis and executive producers Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich, viewers got to see a sizzle reel video that reveals when the Devil will get his day for the final season, and the wait won't be too painfully long. Take a look:

All bad things must come to an end, even if that bad thing is a devilish series so good that it just wouldn't stay cancelled until the time was right to wrap the story! The sixth and final season of Lucifer will release on Netflix on Friday, September 10. That premiere date means that fans will have had to wait less than five months between the end of Season 5 and beginning of Season 6, which is the shortest hiatus between Lucifer seasons it made the move from Fox to Netflix.

The video is mostly comprised of footage from past seasons of Lucifer, but the end with Lucifer getting pulled over in his "FALLEN1" convertible is a clear homage to the very beginning of the series. Of course, in the original scene, Lucifer wasn't swigging from a flask and talking about his "last night in LA," so this new look at Season 6 really is a preview of the beginning of the end.

While that may not be the cheeriest of thoughts, star Tom Ellis dropped a tease about Season 6 in the Comic-Con@Home panel that should pique the interest of plenty of fans. When asked if Lucifer is still going to solve crimes in the final season despite everything that went down by the end of Season 5B, Ellis said:

The days of Lucifer showing up on the scene of a crime with Chloe to do his thing to help catch the criminals are apparently gone, which might have been inevitable with how Season 5 wrapped, and not just because of Dan's demise, which resulted in some mixed reactions from fans. That's not to say that there won't be a member of the celestial family investigating in Season 6, however. Ildy Modrovich explicitly confirmed what Amenadiel will be up to when the show returns:

As for what exactly the plot of Lucifer's final season has in store on a larger scale, fans might not want to hold out hope for too many spoilers. That said, the official Netflix description of the final season reveals that Lucifer is hesitating even though he has "almost" become God, and he'll have to respond in some way when the world begins unraveling without a God. The goodbye is described as "bittersweet," with the advice that fans should bring tissues.

With Lucifer's sixth and final season less than two months away from releasing, you can always watch and rewatch the first five seasons streaming on Netflix now. Spoilers ahead for Season 5 of Netflix’s Lucifer. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

The second half of Season 5 of Netflix’s Lucifer has finally released and it was a lot to take in. The final episodes of Season 5B, in which there were quite a few twists leading up to Lucifer and Michael’s climactic fight, were a lot. Those twists are what make it one of the best, if not the best, ending for a season or series, at least in a while. Look, many people have had different reactions to Season 5 of Lucifer as a whole and not everyone felt this way. But considering the twists the finale had, Season 6 will be a tough one to wait on and I totally think the ending works.

What Happened At The End Of Lucifer's Season 5B Finale, Explained

The Season 5B finale of Lucifer dealt with the aftermath of Dan’s murder from the previous episode, as well as the anticipated fight between angelic brothers Lucifer and Michael over who would take over God’s role. They both brought their own army to the fight, with Maze providing a great part of Lucifer’s side. When it seemed like Lucifer and friends were finally gaining some ground against Michael, Michael stabs Chloe in front of Lucifer, killing her instantly. However, Lucifer goes to Heaven and retrieves Chloe’s soul. You'd think that's the end. It's not.

Next, Lucifer is then obliterated by Heaven, due to his banishment. Back on Earth, Chloe uses her abilities gifted to her by Lilith’s ring and the Key to fight Michael and Lucifer returns, but not as the Devil. Michael and the angels then surround Lucifer, kneeling before him as the season comes to a close with the final words, spoken by Lucifer in his new role: “Oh my Me.” Did this ending work for you? It certainly worked for me.

Why I Feel That Twist Really Was The Best Ending

The Season 5B finale was like a movie all on its own. It's dramatic, heart-wrenching, came to a climax and then ended with a twist I sort of even felt was coming but still managed to surprise me. Throughout the final few episodes, you may have thought that Michael was going to become the new God and in the finale it really was looking that way. Then, when the Angel of Death came and Michael stabbed Chloe, it was like a punch to the gut. She is a beloved character and she had finally just gotten together with Lucifer after all this time. She was at peace in Heaven up until Lucifer came to her rescue and it was because of her that Lucifer was able to defeat Michael and come into his true Calling as God, not the Devil.

Not many can picture Lucifer as God, which is why the twist is so insane and different for TV. With the way that the season ended, with no one really pointing out and saying that “Lucifer is God,” but with everyone kneeling and realizing that he is their boss now and Lucifer saying “Oh my Me” was in true Lucifer fashion. It sets up what is likely going to be an interesting sixth and final season, as well, which is why I really do feel that twist is so important.

Throughout the final few episodes, you may have thought that Michael was going to become the new God and in the finale it really was looking that way. This ending was the best because you didn't see it coming. It was unpredictable. When I thought one thing was going to happen, something else happened. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and it was a masterpiece of an ending. It was beautiful, shocking, and it made me crave the next episode, even though we likely won't be getting it for a while. If champing at the bit for more isn't a sign of a successful finale, I don't know what is.

Although Season 6 of Lucifer is wrapped, there is no set date for when it could premiere on Netflix (yet). The final season is confirmed to have just 10 episodes, so whether or not Lucifer’s God duties will continue on into next season is just one of many questions I (and plenty of fans) have following the finale. Lucifer as God will be an interesting storyline going into Season 6 and I can't wait to see how they explore it! Now, just how will the upcoming series finale top this season finale?

You know, even I forget sometimes that Lucifer, the Netflix exclusive crime thriller series in which Satan himself takes human form on Earth as a club owner and police consultant in Los Angeles, is a DC Comics adaptation inspired by one of the publisher’s more adult-oriented Vertigo titles. That being said, despite how many characters star Tom Ellis would truly be perfect to play in any upcoming DC movies, a role in one of the many upcoming Marvel movies might be the more likely natural direction for the actor to take next. Luckily, I would actually argue that he is already a prime candidate to also play plenty of great characters ripped from the pages of Marvel Comics, including one that would not require much further preparation on his part if we are being honest here.

Mephisto

Comic book fans have been dying to see Mephisto in the MCU for a while now. To make it clear how hotly anticipated he is, some people were disappointed by WandaVision simply because their theories that the mischievous demon might turn out to be the Disney+ series’ true villain proved untrue. That being said, I think Marvel Studios realizes that the time to bring the character who is, essentially, the Satan of the Marvel Universe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe should be sooner than later.

Who better to play this traditionally refaced villain than an actor like Tom Ellis, who already has experience playing the Prince of Darkness (sorry, Ozzy) in one of the most poplar DC TV shows at the moment? Not to mention, the fact that Mephisto is an extra-dimensional being means that the idea of he and Lucifer Morningstar being the same person is not too far-fetched. A concept like that is too engrossing for any actor to refuse.

Baron Blood

On the other hand, I would not hold it against Tom Ellis if he became a little burnt out on playing the ruler of the Underworld. However, if he would be willing to graduate onto a different sort of dark, gothic creature, I might have the perfect character in mind.

Marvel Comics does not get enough credit for its contributions to vampire lore and one of its most fascinating figures of its own mythology is John Falsworth - a Victorian Era nobleman who would adopt the name Baron Blood after Count Dracula turned him into a creature of the night. This bloodsucker would go on to become an ally to the German Army during World War II and during subsequent conflicts, which sounds like a really cool plot point to include in Mahershala Ali’s upcoming Blade reboot to me. Plus, Falsworth is British, meaning Tom Ellis would not have to hide his natural Welsh accent for the role.

Union Jack

I would also not hold it against Tom Ellis if he were to get burnt out on both playing dark, gothic, mythological creatures and hiding his natural Welsh accent for a role. Therefore, I have another Marvel character in mind who, depending on which iteration you would want to focus on, is actually the brother of Baron Blood, believe it or not. His full name is James Montgomery Falsworth, however since he already exists in the MCU as played JJ Feild in Captain America: The First Avenger, we should go with a younger, more modern iteration of the Union Jack moniker.

James Montgomery Falsworth’s successor is named Joseph Chapman - a working class Manchester native whose superb athleticism and peak human strength, speed, and endurance earned him the chance to fight evil in the United Kingdom as Union Jack. While he sounds a bit like the British Captain America, that would more literally be Captain Britain, but this vigilante is just as, if not, cooler in my opinion.

Agamotto

As juicy of a role as Union Jack would be to tackle, in retrospect, why would Tom Ellis not want to tackle more magical comic book characters? The ability to do literally anything (or, at least, whatever the story requires) is the ultimate dream of any actor and one of the most powerful magic wielders in the Marvel Universe is Agamotto.

The spell caster is one of the many who has held the esteemed title of the Sorcerer Supreme before Doctor Strange did and, in case you were wondering, that is, indeed, his “eye” that houses the Infinity Stone which can be used to control the flow of time. I think it would be fun to see Stephen Strange have to join forces with his predecessor by some extra-dimensional causes - something the character will be dealing with Sam Raimi’s upcoming sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - and I think the chance for Tom Ellis and Benedict Cumberbatch to share the screen is something the actors, and their fans, would much appreciate.

Dr. Doom

You know, instead of playing a character who collaborates with Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, it might be even more interesting to see him play someone who has gone toe-to-toe with the sorcerer and also knows a thing or two about magic. Even better would be a role that could end up being the ultimate Big Bad of the MCU’s Phase 4.

I am, of course, talking about someone often referred to as the archenemy of the Fantastic Four (even though he has made enemies with pretty much every superhero in the Marvel Universe), Victor von Doom - the power-hungry and undeniably powerful Latverian genius otherwise known as Doctor Doom. I truly cannot think of a more irresistible villain role for the MCU and one that I am certain Tom Ellis would be honored to play and, more importantly, could play extremely well based on his past depictions of deviancy.

Of course, to avoid falling at risk of typecasting, I could understand if Tom Ellis might have other ideas in mind for how he chooses to move on after Lucifer ends after Season 6 on Netflix. However, if you are one of the many who would love to see the actor make the transition from superhero TV shows (technically speaking) into superhero movies, specifically in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is there a particular role you would favor for him?

Lucifer left fans on a divine cliffhanger way back in August 2020 when none other than God showed up to put a stop to the fight involving Lucifer, Amenadiel, Michael, and Maze to end the first half of Season 5. The fifth season was previously expected to be the last, but thanks to a surprise renewal for Season 6 and based on the brand new trailer, it's safe to say that fans are in for a devil of a good time with the upcoming arrival of Lucifer Season 5B. Actually though, perhaps in this case a "heavenly" good time would be more apt?

In fact, God and Lucifer seem like they are in major need of some therapy in the first look at Season 5B, and Netflix's trailer really lays out what we can expect from the new season. First, God is looking to retire. Secondly, Lucifer is looking to move on and build a stable relationship. Thirdly, these two things have seemed to indicate to Tom Ellis' character that he'd make a great new candidate for the new God. That said, there's still a whole lot that probably won't be clear until the show returns with Season 5B in May! Thanks to Amenadiel actor D.B. Woodside, though, at least one theory has been debunked.

The second half of Season 5 will of course see the cast of Lucifer getting musical, and a certain musical number is going to show a new side of Chloe, which is no small deal after the first half of Season 5 finally explored a romance between Chloe and Lucifer. The will they/won't they dynamic of the Devil and the detective became a very firm "they will," but this doesn't mean that relationship will be smooth sailing in the latter half of Season 5.

And with the first Season 5B trailer out and the wait for new episodes not all that much longer, fans can probably count on some more obstacles for the good ship Deckerstar. But hey, at least the show isn't returning with Lucifer back on the throne of Hell like the last time fans had to sit through a hiatus!

The process of producing Season 5B was a rollercoaster, with the ending having to be rewritten once Netflix uncancelled it and gave an order for Season 6 as the latest of multiple times the show has been rescued from cancellation at this point. I honestly expected the plot for Season 5B to be a little more nonsensical than what we are seeing in the first trailer; instead, I'm actually really excited for what the Netflix series seems like it will be doing here now that God was introduced. The additional good/bad news? Season 6 does truly seem to be the end, however. The last day of production on the final episode was back in March and after those episodes air, the show will actually get the chance to end on a note it can be proud of.

For now, fans can just look forward to all the bonkers twists that the trailer clearly indicates are on the way without worrying about saying goodbye with Season 6. There is still a whole lot that can happen between the beginning of Season 5B and the final season finale. The second half of Season 5 will premiere on Netflix on Friday, May 28 at 12:01 a.m. PT on Netflix.

Getting a package in the mail usually means your latest Amazon impulse purchase has arrived. But for Tom Ellis, star of the hit Netflix series Lucifer, a certain unexpected gift was cause for alarm. In fact, the cops were called.

Recently, the Welsh actor and his wife, screenwriter Meaghan Oppenheimer, received an unwelcome surprise at their Los Angeles residence. Someone - local law enforcement has yet to pin down a suspect - sent the couple a glitter package last month. Apparently, a glitter package is exactly what it sounds like: a box full of glitter, per TMZ.

This might not sound dangerous, but it was addressed to Meaghan Oppenheimer, not Tom Ellis, whose large Lucifer fanbase might at least somewhat explain such an odd gift. Add in the fact that the sender was anonymous, and the couple was understandably a bit on edge.

They have since called the police and the package is now under investigation, with the LAPD Threat Management division spearheading the charge. Police have said they are closing in on a suspect, but are waiting for more information before they reveal any other details. With any luck, the package will be revealed as nothing more than a harmless prank.

The package was sent to Los Angeles, the city where Lucifer is primarily filmed and where Tom Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer have a residence. Production on Season 5 was finally completed in early 2020 after a series of delays due to COVID-19. The season was split into two parts, with the first dropped on Netflix last August.

Fans will have plenty to look forward to in the second half of Season 5, which premieres on May 28 on Netflix. Tom Ellis is reportedly stoked for an upcoming musical episode, and Lucifer’s nefarious brother Michael (also played by Tom Ellis) is still up to no good. In addition, the show was renewed for a sixth season. The news came as a pleasant surprise for fans, since the fifth season had been expected to be the last.

Tom Ellis has taken to social media to promote the show as well as offer support for his co-stars outside of his glittery personal life drama. He recently congratulated DB Woodside, who plays Lucifer’s other celestial sibling, Amenadiel, for stepping behind the camera for an episode in Season 6. Woodside won’t be the first star to try his hand at directing. Kevin Alejandro, who plays Detective Dan Espinoza, has directed multiple episodes in the past.

Here’s hoping that all is well for Tom Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer, and that May 28 gets here as soon as possible. I mean, you can’t just give us Dennis Haysbert as God and then leave us hanging. That would be positively devilish.

Romantic comedies are a tricky business. Getting the balance of feel-good romance, comedy and somewhat realistic relationships just right is not an easy thing, and many of these movies are less-than-fulfilling for a lot of fans of the genre. One thing that's been especially true over the years, is that these movies tend to be pretty divided along line of race, with us either following BIPOC as they fall in love, or two white characters. Now, though, after his Love, Guaranteed success for Netflix, Damon Wayans Jr. is set to star in a new film for the streamer that's got me even more excited.

According to Deadline, Damon Wayans Jr. is on board to play one of the leads in Players, a new Netflix rom-com which will also star Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez and Lucifer's Tom Ellis. The story, which is by Ozark and Daredevil scribe Whit Anderson, will follow Chicago sportswriter Mack (Rodriguez), when she falls in love after years of coming up with winning hookup "plays" with her best buddy, Adam (Wayans Jr.). But, now that she's found herself falling hard for one of her hookup targets (Ellis), Mack and Adam have to figure out "what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps."

Aside from the fact that this set up already sounds pretty great for a rom-com, I love that the movie is doing several things differently from what you usually see in this type of film. First of all, I absolutely love that Players focuses mostly on the love life of a BIPOC woman. Obviously, there are several other romantic comedies that do this, but they don't usually get the kind of mainstream love they deserve. Gina Rodriguez herself starred in such a movie for Netflix in 2019, Someone Great, and has more than proven that she's awesome at handling a wide variety of romantic plotlines.

That film, however, was not your standard romantic comedy, mostly because it focused on a woman getting over a difficult breakup. And, though it ended happily, it did not end with Rodriguez's character in a happy relationship, which is something that a lot of rom-com lovers would prefer when we watch these types of films. All you have to do is take note of how successful the many, many dozens of Hallmark made for TV romances are to know that.

While it's 1000% true that Hallmark never fails at bringing audiences a sweet, we're-totally-in-love-forever-now happily ever after for every couple they show, the network has not been good at making sure we get to see a lot of diverse romances over its several years of filling pretty much every month with new romances. While this is starting to change more and more (mostly because of fan outcry), the network's movies are still very much mostly in a "two white folks fall in love" or a "two black folks fall in love" mode, with not many interracial romances or people of color in those romances bringing in a fuller scope of diversity.

But, here's Netflix, giving us two main characters of color in Gina Rodriguez and Damon Wayans Jr. for Players. Her Mack may not be falling in love with another BIPOC, but we're probably guaranteed to see Wayans Jr. a lot as Adam, as opposed to him being relegated to a sexless secondary character.

And, not for nothing, but the number of rom-coms which take the story from a woman's point of view and also set her as the one previously only interested in hooking up who then has to figure out falling in love, are very few and far between. I'm glad Players is letting a woman gleefully enjoy her hoe time, OK? Men get to do it on screen all the time, and ladies should be afforded the same opportunity to watch other women enjoy some romantic exploration in movies before figuring out a serious love thing, and without somehow being punished for it. All of this has me very excited for Players, so I can't wait to see the final result!

After a roller coaster of cancellations and renewals over the last few years, Netflix’s Lucifer is getting ready to deliver its big finale, even though audiences have yet to see Tom Ellis' protagonist in the back half of Season 5. The network-turned-streaming series entered he final day of production for its sixth and final season on March 29, and fans are appropriately feeling all kinds of feels about the show's impact on their lives.

In conjunction to the cast and crew of Lucifer marking the last day of production, fans created the hashtag #ThankYouLucifer to show their appreciation for the devilish drama, the beloved characters and the even more beloved cast they've come to love for the past five seasons. And all that attention didn't go unnoticed, as co-showrunner Joe Henderson reflected fans' appreciation right back at them on Twitter after seeing the hashtag emerge.

For many fans, television is not just a form of casual entertainment, but a means of helping one feel that all is right with the world, even for a little bit. (Even in a show with subject matter such as this.) One fan admitted that Lucifer has helped her in so many ways, and that she’s immensely grateful to the cast and crew.

Because of Lucifer, plenty of fans have also found new friends online whom they now call family, meaning the show has successfully changed some fans' lives forever. As well, the Neil Gaiman-inspired series and Tom Ellis' devil have also inspired some viewers to engage in their own creative pathways. As one fan put it:

It’s now common knowledge that Lucifer was once canceled by Fox after three seasons, but due to hundreds of fan campaigns and outcries, Netflix picked it up for another season. The series soon became a streaming hit and has topped Netflix's charts when new episodes get released. Fans are obviously grateful for the never-ending second chances they've gotten, not only with the series, but with the close-knit cast continuing to return with each renewal:

Fittingly enough, Lucifer has gone to hell and back again during its extended television-to-streaming run throughout this past half-decade. Initially, the DC comic book adaptation made a modest debut on Fox with mixed reviews but a growing fanbase. When the show was cancelled after three seasons, the outcry of support from fans ultimately inspired Netflix to pick it up for three additional MA-rated installments — including its sixth and final season, which was (surprisingly) announced back in June.

While fans are still waiting for the second half of Season 5, this extended delay is giving newcomers a chance to catch-up with the buzzy series. Additionally, on television, Lauren German was in the main cast for Hawaii Five-0 Season 2, and she played a prominent role on Chicago Fire. Kevin Alejandro (Detective Daniel “Dan” Espinoza)

In the role of Daniel Espinoza, an LAPD homicide detective, Chloe's ex-husband, and Trixie's father, Kevin Alejandro has a prominent paternal part in Lucifer. Outside of this series, Alejandro is known for his performances in Southland, Parenthood, True Blood, and Arrow. Scarlett Estevez (Beatrice “Trixie” Espinoza)

In the role of Beatrice "Trixie" Espinoza, Dan and Chloe's daughter, Scarlett Estevez was part of Lucifer's main cast for the first four seasons. The child actress started her film career with Daddy's Home, followed by Daddy's Home Two. Estevez can also be seen in the fourth season of Disney Channel's Bunk'd. Her other TV credits include a recurring voice role in Amazon Prime's If You Give A Mouse a Cookie, as well as guest star appearances in Redeeming Dave and Raven's Home. Additionally, Estevez can be seen in The Massively Mixed-Up Middle School Mystery and And Then There Was You, as well as being heard in 2018's The Grinch. Rachael Harris (Dr. Linda Martin)

As Linda Martin, our titular hellspawn's psychotherapist, Rachael Harris plays a mindful and observant character in Lucifer. In addition to this series, Harris can be seen in Reno 911!, New Girl, Suits, The Good Wife, and Sister, Sister. Her other TV credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sarah Silverman Program, In the Motherhood, My Boys, Childrens Hospital, Modern Family, The Office, Cougar Town, Pushing Daisies, Notes From the Underbelly, Monk, Frasier, 8 Simple Rules, Party Down, and Star Trek: Voyager.

Tricia Helfer (Mum)

As "Mum," the Devil's mother and God's exiled wife, Tricia Helfer has a splashy supporting role in Lucifer. Most notably, Helfer is known for Battlestar Galactica. Her other notable TV credits include recurring roles in Powers, The Firm, Step Up: High Water, and Burn Notice, as well as main cast parts in Dark Blue, Killer Women, and the fourth season of Van Helsing. Most notably, Welling starred in The WB/The CW's Smallville as Clark Kent himself. He also had a recurring role in Judging Amy Season 2. His other television credits include Undeclared, Special Unit 2, Man Fire Food, and Professionals. He also reprised his role as Clark Kent in Batwoman.

Inbar Lavi (Eve)

In the role of Eve, our titular diablo's former lover and the world's first human female, Inbar Lavi joined Lucifer during its fourth season. Prior to this performance, Lavi was seen in MTV's Underemployed, Fox's Gang Related, and Prison Break's fifth season. Additionally, Lavi starred in Bravo's Imposters. Her other television credits include CSI, CSI: Miami, Charlie's Angels, Castle, The Last Ship, Sons of Anarchy, Criminal Minds, Entourage, The Closer, In Plain Sight, and, most recently, Stumptown.

Furthermore, Inbar Lavi appeared in The Last Witch Hunter, For the Love of Money, House of Dust, Street Kings 2: Motor City, Getting That Girl, Underground, and Sorry for Your Loss.

Lucifer Season 5 really got creative with its episodes this year. The first half of the season gave viewers a fantastic noir episode that offered the backstory for Lucifer’s ring, while the second half of Lucifer’s fifth season will be tackling a musical format. Lucifer himself, Tom Ellis, recently explained why he’s “so excited” for the series’ upcoming musical episode and what fans should expect to see.

Tom Ellis is no stranger to singing on Lucifer, but the musical episode (which will be the tenth episode of Season 5) likely won’t involve the actor singing from behind a piano like he has in past seasons. Speaking with Collider, Ellis revealed the reason for why he was so enthusiastic about doing a musical episode and cited it as a highlight of the show. Here’s what he said:

You can almost hear Tom Ellis’ excitement in his response, right? I love that Lucifer’s showrunners “found the perfect reason” to do a musical episode on the show. I think it’s one of the most creative things they’ve come up with besides the noir episode in Season 5, and the fact that they found a “reason” for the characters to sing is even better. It also sounds like the musical won’t be a standalone episode and will play heavily into the overarching plot of the season.

One of the big moments from the first half of Season 5 was God’s arrival. Dennis Haysbert was cast in the role some time ago, but it was still a genuine surprise when he showed up to break up a fight between Lucifer, his twin brother Michael, and Amenadiel. Aside from the singing and dancing, Tom Ellis also teased how God factors into the musical episode. In his words:

Considering that the musical episode will involve some much-needed time with Lucifer and God, I’d like to think that God will sing at some point in the episode, but only time will tell if that’s the case. Nonetheless, Tom Ellis’ enthusiasm about Lucifer’s musical episode is contagious, and I’m ready to see what the show has in store.

Lucifer returned to Netflix with the first half of a super-sized Season 5 to deliver a surprising villain in the form of Lucifer's twin brother Michael. Tom Ellis tackled both roles for the fifth season, which was originally intended to be the last in the series, meaning that Michael was presumably going to be the final big bad of Lucifer whose story wrapped in the Season 5 finale. Now that Lucifer has been renewed for a sixth and final season, the question stands: will the show be finished with Michael after Season 5?

Tom Ellis spoke with Collider about all things Lucifer, including tackling the role of Michael on top of Lucifer as well as the late renewal for Season 6, and his comments provide some food for thought about Michael's chances of returning after the second half of Season 5. Ellis first revealed that the Lucifer team learned about the Season 6 renewal (which was reportedly in the works for a while) "about four weeks" before they were meant to finish, then explained:

Considering that Lucifer has been cancelled not once but twice at this point, I don't think anybody would argue with Tom Ellis' comment about the show not having a "typically orthodox" run! Lucifer aired on Fox for three seasons before getting the axe, then was renewed for a fourth (and decidedly racier) season on Netflix, and then was renewed for a fifth and final, only to be renewed for a sixth and final. According to the star, the showrunners didn't just end Season 5 as intended and plan to go in an entirely new direction for Season 6, but will add some material before reaching that ending in Season 6.

So, if the ending that was planned for the conclusion of Season 5 is still going to happen down the line, does that mean Lucifer will have to bring back Michael for Season 6? The answer likely depends on how tied Michael's ending is to the series ending. If the vision for the series finale that was meant for Season 5 involves Michael, and that can't be changed, then Tom Ellis will presumably have to continue playing double duty in Season 6. If Michael's run as villain doesn't have to be tied to the series finale, on the other hand, he could theoretically be done at the end of Season 5.

God is in the picture now, and I feel like Lucifer had it suspiciously easy in leaving Hell behind, so there are potential sources of conflict not necessarily tied to Michael, and that's after only the first half of the season. A lot can happen by the time the second half rolls around, complete with a musical episode. Tom Ellis weighed in on the challenges of playing two roles, with the original expectation that it would be only in Season 5, saying:

Season 5's episode count was bumped up (and the season itself split in half) after Tom Ellis officially agreed to play both the devil and his dastardly twin brother, and his comments may suggest that he doesn't expect to play Michael beyond the 16 episodes of Season 5. That said, he does "love a challenge," and Ellis was reportedly the holdout among the cast when it came to signing new contracts for a sixth season. If he is going to play two characters instead of one, could that have led to the alleged disagreement?

For now, we can only wonder and speculate about whether or not Tom Ellis will play both Lucifer and Michael in Season 6. The second half of Season 5 doesn't yet have a premiere date, and a lot can happen between now and Season 6. I for one thought Ellis was great as Michael and Lucifer, but even switching the accent back and forth adds new challenges, not to mention the action sequence at the end of the midseason finale of Lucifer and Amenadiel vs. Michael and Maze.

The good news is that the first four full seasons are available streaming on Netflix now as well as the first half of Season 5. Although the show did go through some noticeable changes from what it looked like on Fox to what it could do on Netflix, Lucifer has been a devilishly good time from the beginning, and a rewatch is always an option! Spoilers ahead for the first half of Lucifer Season 5.

After five seasons of Lucifer being openly angry with his father and feeling betrayed following his banishment to Hell, God finally made his grand appearance in Lucifer Season 5. Naturally, the celestial’s arrival was just in time to close out the first half of the fifth season, leaving viewers to wonder exactly why he’d finally decided to show up after all these years. As it turns out, introducing God into the story wasn't the easiest introduction for Lucifer's Ildy Modrovich and co-showrunner Joe Henderson to bring about in Season 5.

As Lucifer would say, “Oh my Dad!” Finally coming face to face with God in Lucifer Season 5 was a big deal for fans and for the creative team. After seasons of build-up, there were expectations many viewers had for such an elusive and omnipotent being. Speaking with TVLine, Ildy Modrovich revealed why bringing in God was such a nerve-wracking decision. In her words:

God really was a “man of mystery” during the first four seasons of Lucifer. (Or an "entity of mystery," at least.) In fact, God was always played up as the bad dad figure for Lucifer to cast blame on. Sometimes the devil even wondered aloud what the intent behind his father’s decisions were and whether it was all some test or a big joke at his offspring's expense. God’s arrival means that he can now finally speak for himself instead of having his deeds misinterpreted by his sons. And who wouldn't want to hear 24 vet Dennis Haysbert's soothing voice explaining things?

That said, it sure sounds like fans won’t get every question answered about why God does what he does, but I think that’s fine because the mystery part of it all should still remain somewhat intact. After listening to Lucifer’s twin brother Michael go on about how he’d become God’s right-hand angel, I do wonder if God’s arrival was, at least in part, sparked by Michael’s manipulations.

Viewers knew that God would finally be showing up in Season 5 once Dennis Haysbert was cast to play the character. And although the actor was only onscreen for a few seconds, Haysbert’s presence was very, well, godly. It’s unclear if God and Lucifer will have calm conversations, or if we should expect another celestial family brawl. In any case, God’s long-awaited introduction might finally give Lucifer some sort of closure after having a one-sided relationship for so long. The father-son duo have so much to catch up on!

For those worried that the end of Season 5 was changed due to Lucifer’s Season 6 renewal, fear not. According to Ildy Modrovich, the current season will end the way it was always intended to end, but that part of Season 5’s finale will be extended and further explored as a storyline for Season 6.

Lucifer’s Season 5 trailer teased that the beloved titular character was acting kind of strange, and Chloe picked up on it right away. Lucifer dismissed the concern, saying that he’s been in Hell for thousands of years since the end of Season 4, so of course he’d be different. However, the Lucifer who’s returned to Earth isn’t him at all, but his evil twin brother, Michael. Recently, Aimee Garcia revealed why Lucifer’s Season 5 twist is such a “brilliant move.”

Michael won’t just be posing as his twin brother, but his goal is to completely steal Lucifer’s life. Tom Ellis will have his work cut out for him as he plays both roles and it looks like things will come to blows between the siblings before all is said and done. The reveal that Lucifer had a twin didn’t just surprise the fans, but it shocked the Lucifer cast as well. Speaking with ET, Aimee Garcia discussed the cast’s reaction to that massive twist. Here’s what she said:

It is a rather “brilliant” twist and stirs up some familial drama between Lucifer and his far more devilish brother. At the same time, Michael taking over Lucifer’s life will surely throw a wrench into the already established relationships Lucifer has built over the last four seasons. That said, the twist should make for some interesting storylines in Lucifer Season 5.

Aimee Garcia’s Ella Lopez will be particularly frustrated upon “Lucifer’s” return. Before Lucifer returned to Hell at the end of Season 4, Ella had found her way back to religion. Garcia confirms that Ella will be rather pissed at Lucifer in Season 5 and will be convinced by Michael’s portrayal of his brother. Here’s how Garcia put it:

Perhaps Ella will be just as shocked to learn that it’s not really Lucifer she’s beating up, but Michael. Aimee Garcia also added that Michael definitely “has an agenda,” so it’ll be interesting to explore exactly what he’s up to and why in Season 5. I’d wager it’ll be just as much of a surprising twist as the reveal that Michael is posing as Lucifer. Either way, Lucifer Season 5 can’t come soon enough.

Fans are pumped to see Lucifer returning to Netflix for its final season, which will thankfully (to some) be split into two different sections, stretching the delightfully evil experience even longer. Considering audiences still have yet to see how things will play out in Season 5, a lot of the Season 6 details are still up in the air. But fans can apparently take comfort in the angel Amenadiel returning to the story, with actor D.B. Woodside confirming he will be back for Season 6, and not just as an actor.

D.B. Woodside, who held a recurring role on the short-lived Suits spinoff Pearson in 2019, shared the news with his followers that he will indeed be returning to Lucifer for Season 6. Beyond starring as Amenadiel, Woodside also confirmed he will be taking a spot behind the camera as a director for Season 6, and co-star Tom Ellis congratulated him on social media. Let's all congratulate D.B. Woodside in an equally enthused way as Tom Ellis did. Amenadiel is obviously a major element within Lucifer's main story, especially with Season 4 ending on him making the decision to raise his son Charlie here on Earth proper. So it's great that the actor has already seemingly confirmed that nothing too terrible will happen to Amenadiel in Season 5; at least nothing that would take him completely out of commission going into the final season. I suppose Woodside's announcement doesn't necessarily mean that he will be involved for the entire season, but I choose to remain optimistic about such things.

D.B. Woodside doesn't have a lot of experience when it comes to directing, having helmed the short film First. in 2007. So this should be both an interesting experiment for Lucifer, as well as a big step forward for the actor. It's not a strange occurrence for TV dramas to allow stars to step behind the camera for one or more episodes, especially after being on the air for years. Lucifer in particular has already used co-star Kevin Alejandro, who portrays Daniel Espinoza, as a director for both one of Season 3's out-of-order episodes and for an upcoming Season 5 installment.

We were already expecting for Rachael Harris to be returning for Season 5 as Linda, Charlie's mother and Amenadiel's love interest. But now that we know Amenadiel will for sure be keeping the story going in Season 6, we're wondering if Linda will also survive the entirety of the fifth season, which will be welcoming a Supernatural vet into the fold. Not to mention Inbar Lavi's Eve.

Lucifer will likely be going into production on Season 6 at some point after filming restrictions are lifted, but it's unclear when that will happen. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the first eight episodes of Season 5 premiering on Friday, August 21, at 3:01 a.m. ET. It has been a great week to be a fan of Netflix’s Lucifer. The show has a return date (August 21), and Netflix officially announced that it had been renewed for a sixth and final season. Yes, the streamer finally confirmed that last point. How is Tom Ellis staying fit during quarantine to play the title character in Season 6?

When gyms were open pre-quarantine and before television productions shut down, Tom Ellis showed off staying in shape, and shared some of his experience training for Lucifer’s soon-to-be-released season. It looked exhausting! But, did it make him happy? When asked what exercise makes him feel happiest by Men’s Health, Ellis said:

Fans could have a big chin to revel in when Lucifer returns for Season 6. A sign that just because television has been on pause does not mean Tom Ellis has taken a break from the workouts in lockdown. He signed on for the sixth season last month, so Ellis had a heads up about staying in shape.

The Lucifer star revealed that push-ups and their varying iterations have been a core part of his regime. Hence, a lot of apparent chin action. Fans of the Netflix series do not have too much longer to wait before seeing what the state of Tom Ellis’ chin is in Season 5. It will be split into two halves and span more episodes than initially planned, so get excited.

Netflix also has Season 6 on the way, thanks to, apparently, resolving that behind-the-scenes issue. Of course, production on that cannot happen until television starts lifting those quarantine restrictions. Kudos to Tom Ellis for working to stay in shape without the benefit of visiting a gym. I could not blame him for enjoying some downtime from his regular routine.

When you know that fans have fought as hard for Season 6 as they have, it makes sense for Tom Ellis to want to make it worth their while. Remember, Lucifer’s upcoming season was supposed to be the last one. Considering all of the clothes shedding that Lucifer has done in the past, Ellis probably wants to remain in top shape for Season 6.

In Lucifer’s first Netflix season, there was a nudist colony, and Tom Ellis’ title character was all up in it. Staying in shape has been a pretty consistent theme during Ellis’ time on the supernatural drama. Ahead of the fourth season, Ellis showed off the state of his body in a shirtless Instagram post.

Fans are undoubtedly grateful for Tom Ellis’ hard work. Until Season 6 (or 5 for that matter) arrives, you can stream the first four seasons of Lucifer on Netflix. Lucifer fans got a massive boost to the system yesterday with the leak and subsequent confirmation of Season 5’s release date by Netflix. Split in half, Part 1 of 2 will drop on August 21, and the streamer is not stopping there with this week's good news. Despite some fears that it may not come to be, Netflix is making Season 6 official with a fitting video.

Not too long ago, Lucifer was among several Netflix shows that had still not been renewed. This, even though steps were taken behind the scenes to ensure the renewal process would be as easy as possible. Tom Ellis and other cast and crew members struck deals in recent months to return for more Lucifer. Fast forward to now, and Season 6 is officially a-go. Confirmation of Season 6 has been a long time coming for Lucifer fans, who were twice dealt the devastating news of the series’ cancellation – once on Fox and once on the streaming service. Last year, Netflix simultaneously thrilled and crushed fans with the news that Season 5 was happening, but that it would be the show's last. As expected, the Lucifer viewers who fought hard to get the show on Netflix after it was cancelled by Fox were far from pleased to hear about the end.

A petition was started for Season 6, and while Netflix eventually gave the fifth season a larger episode count, it was not everything that fans truly desired. Hope seemed to be burned up for a while, but then 2020 rolled around and provided evidence that Lucifer could potentially get un-cancelled and brought back for a sixth installment after all.

It has been a rocky road from then to now. At one point, Tom Ellis’ deal to reprise his role as Lucifer’s main character seemed to be in jeopardy. Thankfully, a resolution was made on that front, and fans can likely count on more from Ellis on-screen, with his behind-the-scenes prep for the series' future continuing on. (Fans can probably expect to see some of those behind-the-scenes videos, too.)

All of this said, there is a bittersweet aspect of Netflix’s confirmation. The streamer makes a point to say that Season 6 will be the final season emphasizing its finality in all-caps. That newly cemented ending plan will not be lost on devoted fans, who can count Voice coach Kelly Clarkson among them.

Season 6 may be the last season of Lucifer, but it is one more than fans had to look forward to last year, so call it a silver lining. It is not the first or last time that the number six has played a role in Lucifer’s history, so it's almost surprising that Season 6 wasn't the planned endgame from the start.

For nearly 60 years, Doctor Who has remained a staple of British television. The series, centered around an extraterrestrial Time Lord known as The Doctor who flies around in his time-traveling police box, the TARDIS, with several different human companions and in several different incarnations, is beloved by many and a series with the convenience of being rebooted constantly for new generations and times. Therefore, over the course of its very extensive run, several famous actors (and soon-to-be famous actors) have worked on the sci-fi show. With a cast that included hundreds of actors over the course of several decades, it's understandable if you forgot that these familiar faces once appeared on the program. Therefore, let's get in our own mini TARDISes (or however you pluralize the word TARDIS) and go back through the show's long history and recall who once appeared on Doctor Who.

Andrew Garfield

Before he played Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network, Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge, or Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, Andrew Garfield was a rising British talent who branched out in a big way when he appeared in two Season 3 episodes of Doctor Who. In the popular sci-fi series, Garfield played the part of Frank, an intelligent-but-poor young man living in New York City in 1930, during the Great Depression, who helped the Doctor fight against the dreaded Daleks in their attempt to destroy the world in "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution Of the Daleks."

Felicity Jones

Before she became an Oscar nominee through her performance in 2014's The Theory of Everything, and before she was seen in a galaxy far, far away in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Felicity Jones could be seen in Doctor Who's Season 4, Episode 7, "The Unicorn and the Wasp." In this installment, Jones played Robina Redmond, a.k.a. Ada Mullins, a.k.a. "The Unicorn," a cockney master jewelry thief who is later questioned by the Doctor and Agatha Christie. This 2008 episode of the series might've served as some viewers' introduction to the actress before she became a big star.

Simon Pegg

An actor/screenwriter best known for his work in the Cornetto trilogy — Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End — as well as his roles in the Star Trek and Mission: Impossible cinematic franchises, Simon Pegg is an exceptional talent who has established himself in a number of nerd-friendly properties. Suffice to say, it shouldn't be a shock to know that in 2005, just a year after Shaun of the Dead became a cult favorite around the world, he made an appearance in Doctor Who. 

Specifically, he was seen in Episode 7 of Season 1 as the sinister The Editor in "The Long Game," a role that was notably different than what audiences saw from the Shaun of the Dead and Spaced actor prior. Hell, it's more cold-blooded than the characters we are used to seeing from the affable actor today. It was another showcase of Pegg's undervalued versatility, proving once more how vast his talents are.

Olivia Colman

Before she became an Oscar-winning actress through her fantastic performance in The Favourite, and well before she took over the leading role on Netflix's The Crown, Olivia Colman was a hard-working character actress who certainly accredited a number of movies and television shows to her name throughout the years. One such show was Doctor Who, where Colman played a mother and a form of Patient Zero in the first episode of Season 5, "The Eleventh Hour." 

It'd certainly be understandable if you forget that Colman was in the show, though. She played such a small part, her character didn't even have a name. Furthermore, Olivia Colman's name was even misspelled in the credits, calling her "Olivia Coleman." Admittedly, showrunner Steven Moffat claims they "wasted" the award-winning actress by giving her such a small role through this guest star appearance. It's safe to say that things worked out for the actress, though. In addition to this minor part in the proceedings, Colman read the audiobook version of The Forgotten Army.

James Corden

Nowadays, James Corden has made a splash stateside through The Late Late Show with James Corden and Carpool Karaoke, but the actor/television personality first grew prominence in the U.K., and it shouldn't be a shock to know that he starred in an episode of Doctor Who. Specifically, Corden can be seen in Episodes 11, "The Lodger," and 12, "Closing Time," of Season 6, where he played the role of Craig Owens, a man who rented a room to the Doctor and later helped him defeat the Cybermen. In return, the Doctor helped Craig confess his feelings to his friend, Sophie. 

During his time on the show, Craig and Doctor Who shared a close and personal friendship. While not quite as known in the U.S. back in 2010, James Corden was quite a big name in Britain on both the telly and on the stage when these episodes aired. So, in that sense, Corden was considered a big guest star for the series.

Carey Mulligan

Before she became an Oscar-nominated actress for An Education, and appeared in movies like Never Let Me Go, Shame, The Great Gatsby, and Inside Llewyn Davis, Carey Mulligan could be seen in the 2007 Doctor Who episode, "Blink." In the Season 3, Episode 10 installment of the popular science-fiction series, Mulligan played Sally Sparrow, a photographer in London who encountered the Weeping Angels and indirectly helped Doctor Who in a mission. It came a curious time in Mulligan's career. It was shortly after she grew prominence for 2005's Pride and Prejudice but a couple years before the actress would become a household name through her Oscar-nominated lead performance in the aforementioned Best Picture-nominated 2009 drama, An Education.

Daniel Kaluuya

Before he became an Oscar-nominated actor made famous for his leading role in Jordan Peele's excellent Get Out, as well as stellar performances in Widows, Black Panther, and, most recently, Queen & Slim, Daniel Kaluuya had a prominent role in the Doctor Who episode, "Fifteen Million Merits," as Bingham "Bing" Madsen. In the Season 1, Episode 2 installment, Kaluuya served as the protagonist of the episode, which means that for many Doctor Who fans, this installment likely served as their introduction to the rising talent — a nice glimpse at his great acting talents years before he made it big.

Kylie Minogue

The Australian actress/musician known for constantly reinventing herself, Kylie Minogue fans have seen the artist take her career in a number of places. One such destination was the set of Doctor Who, where Minogue played Astrid Peth in the Season 4 premiere, "Voyage of the Damned." In her time in the show, Minogue played a native of the planet Sto who worked as a waitress for the ill-fated Titanic. She was nearly a companion for the Doctor. The actress/musician keeps busy with a variety of different projects, music-related and otherwise. This Doctor Who role only became a limited engagement.

Tom Ellis

Before he played the devil incarnate in Lucifer, Tom Ellis appeared in Doctor Who as Thomas Milligan, a doctor who worked for the NHS in 2008, i.e. the Year That Never Was, in "Last of the Time Lords," the 13th episode of Season 3. While he was referenced or alluded to again in a few other later episodes, this episode was his one and only role in Doctor Who (for now, at least). 

He played this part before he became a household name through his leading role in Lucifer, and there have been some fans eager to see Ellis play the part of Doctor Who in a future incarnation. Both Joe Henderson, the co-showrunner of Lucifer, and Ellis himself have responded to this request.

Nick Frost

Like his Cornetto trilogy co-star and frequent collaborator Simon Pegg, Nick Frost also made an appearance in Doctor Who. Specifically, Frost played Santa Claus in the 12th Season 8 episode, "Death in Heaven," and in the 2014 Christmas special, "Last Christmas." The former was used as a lead-in to the latter, as the 10th annual holiday episode saw Kris Kringle and Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi) teaming up to save the North Pole from dream crabs.

Lucifer fans got some hellish news when the renewal for Season 5 on Netflix came with the confirmation that the fifth season would be the last. Now, however, the signs are looking good that the Devil could have another day on the streaming giant, with star Tom Ellis reportedly on board for a sixth season.

Tom Ellis has finalized a new deal to return as leading man of Lucifer for a sixth season, according to TVLine, assuming that sixth season actually does happen. An official renewal hasn't been announced yet, and neither Netflix nor Warner Bros. TV commented on this reported deal with Ellis, but the stars seem to be aligning.

Reports that Lucifer could return for Season 6 despite its cancellation following its upcoming fifth season hit the web back in mid-February, with Netflix and Warner Bros. TV in talks to expand Lucifer beyond Season 5. More recently, Lucifer showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson reportedly signed on for a sixth season, which was a big step in the right direction.

There was one major missing piece from all of this potential good news: Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar. Lucifer certainly can't go on without Lucifer, and I'm guessing fans could agree that a recast to replace Tom Ellis simply wouldn't work. So, the report that Ellis has signed on for Season 6 is a cause for celebration, especially since many of Ellis' fellow Lucifer stars apparently already have deals to keep them on board for a sixth season.

Tom Ellis was one of several Lucifer stars to share a reaction to the renewal/cancellation news back in June 2019. Following the video in which Ellis promised fans he'd see them in Hell, he posted a more thoughtful reaction on Twitter, saying this:

If all the pieces for Lucifer Season 6 come together and Netflix officially orders the renewal, then that bittersweet feeling could lose a whole lot of its bitterness! The question now is: what's next? If Tom Ellis and most of the cast have deals to return and the showrunners have signed on, the future of Lucifer seemingly falls into the hands of Netflix and Warner Bros. TV execs.

If a deal for another season can be worked out, then fans will have not one but two full seasons to look forward to! Of course, the fifth season itself has the potential to feel like two seasons. Season 5 was originally announced as running for ten episodes before the count was bumped up to 16, which will be split into two batches of eight episodes each.

Eight is a pretty standard length for a season of a streaming TV series, so a 16-episode Season 5 could feel more like two seasons than just one. The only bad news here is that Netflix hasn't announced a premiere date yet for Season 5, which is currently the final season. The first eight episodes are expected to premiere in 2020; as for the rest, only time will tell.

It may have been wild to fathom at first, but it happened. Lucifer fans got a thrill via the recent Arrow-verse crossover that saw Tom Ellis traverse networks to The CW for a cameo. It was a great way to satiate fans of the character as they anxiously await the two-part final season of the Netflix series. Lucifer’s co-showrunner has responded to the cameo setting up an Arrow-verse connection.

Rumors about Lucifer’s main character making the leap from Netflix to The CW for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” abounded back in October. Cut to December, and The Flash’s installment of the Arrow-verse crossover brought Lucifer on to help Diggle, Mia and Constantine, save Oliver’s soul. The scene revealed a connection between Constantine and Lucifer, thus creating one between the Arrow-verse and Lucifer. How did they do it?

It turns out that Constantine helped Lucifer’s friend Maze, so Lucifer ended up repaying the favor during “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Lucifer's Arrow-verse cameo accordingly dropped a potentially major reveal for Lucifer as a show. What does Lucifer’s co-showrunner, Joe Henderson, make of Constantine and Lucifer’s connection? Henderson jokingly told EW:

He was kidding, but Lucifer fans would certainly not mind it if he was not. Given how many wanted to push for a sixth season of the cult series, they would probably be on board for a Lucifer/Constantine spinoff. There is a lot to newly explore between these two! While the Arrow-verse opened up a vein of story opportunities, Lucifer is slated to end with sixteen episodes.

The Arrow-verse should be around for a while, though, so who knows. Lucifer made an appearance one time. Why would he not show up again? As for the significant “Crisis on Infinite Earths” scene, it turns out that Lucifer’s creative team did consult on it. However, the idea for it reportedly sprang from the mind of Flash writer and proclaimed Lucifer fan, Lauren Certo. (She is in good company).

Can you imagine getting to bring a character from a show you love onto the one you are writing? That is next-level fan fiction, right there. Speaking of which, Lucifer’s co-showrunner, Joe Henderson, revealed two additions that team Lucifer made to the original Arrow-verse scene. Both of which seem to center around Lucifer’s distinctive sense of humor. Henderson said:

What a compliment! Lucifer’s side seems to entirely approve of what The Flash’s cooked up with their main character. It has to be a relief to have the cameo out there and still generating buzz! Since it aired, Tom Ellis has opened up about his wild guest appearance in the Arrow-verse.

For now, fans can contemplate Lucifer’s return on his original show. Between his devil status remaining a secret to some and the final season’s revealing storyline, there is a lot to anticipate. For now, Lucifer’s Arrow-verse cameo provided a bit of an appetite quencher. Not to mention a bridge between the two universes!

You can add another cameo to the list of the Arrow-verse’s staggering crossover event. Lucifer’s Tom Ellis is now opening up about his wild appearance in the massive “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Fans understandably got excited as the cameo took place during The Flash’s installment of the crossover.

It all started months ago as word spread with the then-rumor that Lucifer’s Tom Ellis was on the set filming something for “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” CinemaBlend’s Mick Joest even included it in his list of the 10 best rumors and reveals about the crossover. Well, the proof is in the episode, and Ellis definitely brought his Netflix show’s title character to The CW event.

Tom Ellis’ eventful appearance on The Flash included Lucifer helping John Constantine, John Diggle, Sara Lance, and Mia Smoak save Mia’s dad, Oliver Queen, from Purgatory. Making the moment a surprise to some was that Tom Ellis had tried to keep fans in the dark about his “Crisis on Infinite Earths” appearance. He even debunked the rumors, but now he is clearing the air. Ellis told ET:

The devil did not make him do it! Trying to keep the Arrow-verse crossover’s secrets did! In spite of his best attempts at secrecy, Tom Ellis’ cameo got spoiled. Although, many probably did not entirely believe Lucifer would show up until they saw him on-screen. Fans of the Netflix series definitely did not want to miss his appearance.

There may have been a significant reveal for the Netflix series, so Lucifer’s fifth and final season should hold the key to finding out. As for Tom Ellis’ cover story about actually being in Vancouver to go to a friend’s birthday party, as with any good magic trick, truth and deception were close neighbors. Ellis revealed:

Like the various shows involved in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, it is a tangled web! Whatever you think of the crossover’s impact, it has undoubtedly gotten fans speculating!

It's worth noting that there was one shocking appearance that did not quite come together for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” -- Nicolas Cage! Yes, he was almost in it! Unfortunately, he wasn't able to appear, but Lucifer definitely did! But brace yourselves, because more of the Arrow-verse crossover is on its way!

They say the devil is in the details, and speaking of the devil, the third hour of the Arrow-verse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” featured an otherworldly surprise when Tom Ellis’ Lucifer Morningstar showed up. The Fox-turned-Netflix fave Lucifer is now officially part of the Arrow-verse, and fans went wild on Twitter following his appearance on The Flash.

A previous rumor suggested that the Lucifer star would make an appearance in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” though Tom Ellis enjoyed making up stories to throw fans off the scent. It turns out that Ellis wasn’t visiting Vancouver to see a friend, after all. (The demon still has a trick or two up his sleeve!) Lucifer, however, did make some new friends when John Constantine, Diggle, Sara, and Mia ventured to Earth-666 to seek out his help in saving Oliver Queen from Purgatory.

Seeing Lucifer onscreen in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” threw fans for a loop, but they were incredibly excited to see DC Comics’ favorite king of hell. One fan in particular was thrilled as F-bomb that Lucifer’s cameo meant he was officially part of the Arrow-verse now, despite the fact that everyone but the seven Paragons ended up disappearing in the anti-matter wave at the end.

Some of the people going berserk online hadn't actually stayed up-to-date with any of the Arrow-verse shows, but still made a point of celebrating Lucifer Morningstar getting to cause mayhem in the multiverse during the "Crisis" crossover.

Fans went so wild over Tom Ellis' appearance that Lucifer Morningstar has been trending on Twitter since the episode aired. That whopper of a surprise has us confident that the Arrow-verse showrunners still have a few shocking twists left in their repertoire that don't rely on Ellis' fibbing skills to fool fans.

Lucifer even confirmed that he knows about Earth-1, which means it's possible that Constantine could crossover to Lucifer, right? Here's hoping that craziness would actually happen, though the crime drama already had a mini Arrow-verse crossover of its own when Tom Welling guest-starred in Season 3. One fan didn't forget that little tidbit, even though Welling wasn't playing Superman.

Tom Ellis’ cameo wasn’t just a super-brief glimpse at the character, either. Unlike Ashley Scott’s Birds of Prey nod at the beginning of The Flash, Lucifer’s connection to the Arrow-verse was fully confirmed through his past working relationship with Constantine. In the scene, Lucifer says that he owes Constantine for what he did for Maze, though he never states exactly what it was that was done.

This cameo might connect right back to Season 5 of Lucifer, which is set to explore more of Maze’s backstory. It’s a clever way to tie two existing shows together in one universe, and not just because both characters’ network television shows were initially cancelled. Just as Black Lightning was affected by “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” which saw Jefferson Pierce joining the Arrow-verse, Lucifer's final season might be impacted as well.

With one hell of a cliffhanger, which saw Lex Luthor kill Brandon Routh’s Superman to become the Paragon of Truth, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” has a lot more in store when it returns. The crossover concludes with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 on The CW. Lucifer Season 5 will premiere on Netflix at some point in 2020.

The Devil will hopefully get his due in the fifth and final season of Lucifer on Netflix, and star Tom Ellis just dropped some interesting news about the final batch of episodes. Lucifer will join shows like Fuller House and The Ranch as series with seasons split into two halves for separate releases on the streaming giant. Ellis shared the news with Lucifer superfan Kelly Clarkson during her recent visit to the Season 5 set, saying this:

Yes, the King of Hell will be back for two more runs of episodes, even if Lucifer was technically only renewed for one season! I have to imagine that the supersized final season, which originally received an order for ten episodes, is what led to the split.

By adding a whole extra six episodes to the count for the final season, Netflix can almost give the impression of two new seasons. After all, Season 4 only ran for ten episodes. Two runs of eight episodes are a treat for fans! Even Lucifer's boss has said that fans shouldn't push for a Season 6 after successfully winning a Season 4.

Tom Ellis, who went through quite an ordeal training for Lucifer Season 5, has also teased a big question that will be answered before the final credits roll for the last time. Given the training, I'm guessing one big question on a lot of fans' minds concerns whether there will be more nudity than in Season 4, but there are certainly bigger mysteries that need to be solved at this point. Tricia Helfer's return alone is a cause for speculation!

Unfortunately, Tom Ellis did not spill when the first half of Lucifer Season 5 will go live on Netflix. So far, all that has been confirmed by Netflix is that the new episodes will premiere in 2020, which could mean anywhere between around ten weeks or 14 months at this point! Hopefully the split means the first batch of episodes comes sooner rather than later.

Lucifer will end its devilish deeds on the small screen with the fifth and final season, which is currently in production for its Netflix release. Star Tom Ellis hyped some of what to expect from the episode, slated as the fourth in the supersized final season.

First, let's set up what's going to be special about this episode. Lucifer is going full noir black and white for a 1940s alternative universe. Basically, this is going to be a wild episode even by Lucifer standards, but it will take the time to answer a question for fans.

Tom Ellis teased some of what's in store beyond Lucifer and Maze singing a duet, saying this to ET:

Is the alternate universe going to be in Lucifer's mind? Given that an episode from Season 4 featured a musical number starring Lucifer, I wouldn't be shocked to learn that he thinks in musical numbers. Or will this somehow be a trip to the past, or flashbacks to when Lucifer, Maze, and potentially more were up on Earth in the 1940s? We can only speculate at this point about how the episode happens, as well as what question the episode answers.

After all, there are still plenty of unanswered questions about Lucifer, and I think Kelly Clarkson would agree that there aren't many episodes left for the show to tell a new story and fill in the blanks! The reveal of a 1940s-esque episode may explain how Tricia Helfer is returning as Lucifer's mom, considering her outfit in the photo she shared.

Lesley-Ann Brandt didn't drop any huge details (or song titles) about the episode, but her comments can definitely fuel the fire of speculation as fans wait for Season 5 to debut. Here's what the Maze actress had to say:

Could the question that will be answered in the musical episode concern the origin of the dynamic between Lucifer and Maze? Their relationship is certainly one of the most interesting of the series, not least because it goes back further than Lucifer and any other main character except for Amenadiel. Maze had a difficult time in Season 5, first falling for Eve and then having her heart broken. What's in store in Season 5?

Netflix's Lucifer Season 5 is bringing back Lucifer's mom Charlotte Richards in a surprising way. Now that Lucifer is filming its fifth and final season for Netflix, any and all characters could reappear, including Tricia Helfer as the devilish Goddess/Charlotte. Few fans thought that Lucifer would be getting another visit from his mom. However, since she died a few seasons ago, her return may not be what fans expect and her new look is quite the surprise.

The last time anyone saw Tricia Helfer’s Charlotte was in Lucifer Season 3. Back then, Charlotte’s wardrobe definitely looked different. In a new picture posted by Tricia Helfer (via TVLine), Charlotte’s signature leather jacket has been replaced with a retro dress, pearls, and a hairdo more in line with Pleasantville than Charlotte, mother of Lucifer.

Tricia Helfer’s caption seemed to indicate that not all is as it seems.

Anything can happen on Lucifer, but the fact that Tricia Helfer specifically decides to use quotation marks around “who’s” is suspicious. It could mean Charlotte isn’t, in fact, the mother we once knew, but an entirely new character. Lucifer definitely won’t spoil anything anytime soon, but the picture will surely stir up some great fan speculation.

Lucifer fans may recall that Charlotte wasn’t always possessed by Goddess. In fact, she was previously a Los Angeles attorney prior to being murdered. After which, her body was hijacked by Lucifer’s mom, Goddess of everything and God’s ex-wife.

Her appearance will probably be a big surprise to Lucifer, but he's busy dealing with more important things. Last week, Tom Ellis posted a picture to Instagram, announcing the return of Scarlett Estevez as Chloe’s beloved daughter, Trixie. The post indicated that her return will include a lot of screen time with Lucifer, which is great because she hasn’t been seen since the middle of Season 4.

At the end of Season 4, Lucifer left Earth to return to ruling Hell. Before that, though, Chloe finally admitted her feelings for him and Lucifer returned those feelings before leaving for good.

Since we know nothing much about Lucifer’s fifth and final season, it’s possible that Lucifer is drawn back to Earth following the Arrow-verse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths." Most fans may not remember, but Lucifer is technically a DC Comics property. While it hasn’t been confirmed by an actual trusted source just yet, there is currently speculation that Tom Ellis’ Lucifer Morningstar may indeed be appearing in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. Whoa.

It wouldn’t be surprising, though, especially considering that “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is rounding up almost every DCTV character and dropping them into the crossover. Even if Tom Ellis were to briefly appear, it would be a nice nod to the idea that they’re all a part of the shared DC universe.

Along with previous reveals, it is a lot to take in, as Lucifer is a character with no previous Arrow-verse ties. Unless you count one crucial detail of this reported sighting. Let’s get right to the tweet that has sent the rumor mill into overdrive!

Reporting in the wee hours of this morning (October 12), Canagraphs stated that they witnessed a "Crisis on Infinite Earths" scene getting filmed. The big news is the actors from the Arrow-verse who were filming the scene, and the Lucifer star not from the Arrow-verse who was! Check it out:

What could this mean? Well, speculation is where it is at. The title character that Tom Ellis plays in Lucifer is, well, Lucifer -- based on the DC Comics character Lucifer Morningstar. That gives him a slight link to Matt Ryan’s DC Comics character John Constantine. Currently seen on Legends of Tomorrow, Constantine is an exorcist. Given his run-ins with the occult, it would make sense for him to have a run-in or two with the devil.

This is where things get tricky. Lucifer is obviously not a part of the Arrow-verse. However, his character did land in hell at the end of Season 4. Could the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" extend to hades? Maybe. Another scenario is Tom Ellis not breaking canon with Lucifer, instead appearing as someone who "closely resembles" Lucifer, as a sort of wink to the audience.

Whatever happens, it could involve John Diggle (David Ramsey), Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara), and Constantine (Matt Ryan). Did Oliver Queen die and go to hell? That would be intense! It would certainly explain his grave expression in the poster for Arrow’s final season and him getting beaten up badly. Okay, so they probably are not related, but the possibilities are truly endless if this Lucifer cameo makes it to air.

Lucifer fans like The Voice’s Kelly Clarkson will probably rejoice over this news, especially since the show is preparing to end. Production on Lucifer’s fifth and final season is already underway. Would it be a massive leap for Tom Ellis to take his act over to the Arrow-verse? Not necessarily. It would be a wild crossover.

Lucifer has traversed networks before. The series initially aired on Fox before getting cancelled and then receiving a new life on Netflix. What is a leap to The CW? This has to be some sort of record, though, right?

Either way, the Arrow-verse is pulling out all of the stops for "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Why stick to solely to the earth of the Arrow-verse? Based on what is already known, "Crisis on Infinite Earths" is going to be pretty infinite! The crossover event is apparently going to reference Michael Keaton’s Batman movies, and that is not all.

Black Lightning heroes are taking part in the action, as will Kevin Conroy as the future Batman/Bruce Wayne. There is also going to be more than one Superman! Supermen? Smallville’s Tom Welling is on-board, and so is Brandon Routh as Kingdom Come Superman. Will Tom Ellis’ Lucifer be among those participating in the sweeping crossover event?

It’s been awhile since we last saw Scarlett Estevez’s Trixie on Lucifer. The former Fox series began filming its fifth and final season back in September and, though the series is officially ending, it’s great to have the cast back. That includes Trixie, the daughter of Detective Chloe Decker and Detective Dan Espinoza. To rejoice in her return, Lucifer Morningstar himself, Tom Ellis, posted a cute video with the young actress to let fans know she’s back.

The chocolate cake-loving Trixie, while usually a staple of the series, hasn't been spotted since Season 4, Episode 7. That's not bad considering Season 4 of Lucifer was only ten episodes, but the young actress was most definitely missed.

Tom Ellis took to Instagram to share his excitement for Scarlett Estevez’s return. She reposted his video and made it clear she and Ellis will have plenty of screen time together.

It's probably a good thing that Trixie wasn't around for the final three episodes of Season 4, though. She's managed to bond with Lucifer, but considering he'd made a decision to return to Hell in the Season 4 finale, believing he could rule his former home and remain a good person, it was still probably best that Trixie wasn't around to watch him make that decision.

The person who did have to watch him leave, however, was Trixie's mom, Chloe (Lauren German). She and Lucifer have been a will they/won't they kind of couple for many seasons now and the Season 4 finale finally gave fans what they've long been waiting for. In the moments leading up to Lucifer leaving to be king of Hell once more, Chloe finally told him she loved him. He returned the sentiment in kind. However, the confession came at the most inopportune of moments, plaguing their relationship with a lot of uncertainty heading into Season 5.

The cast of Lucifer looks like they’re having a fantastic time filming the fifth season of the series, which is great considering it'll be their final hurrah. They shared their excitement for Season 5 on social media, with Tom Ellis teasing all of the great things they have in store for fans. Tom Ellis has revealed the Lucifer guest star that he found “quite annoying.” To get to the bottom of the story, you have to head back multiple episodes and seasons. It all leads back to the eighth episode of Season 2 entitled "Trip to Stabby Town." You can currently stream it on Netflix, if you need a refresher.

To quickly recap, that is the Lucifer episode that involved the theft of Azrael’s blade by a human. Lucifer ended up connecting it to a series of stabbings that involved a local yoga studio. The place’s guru was Jenson Glory, whose real name was Jamie Ostrowski. Actor Ryan Alosio played the role. Now to what Tom Ellis told JimHeath.TV:

Even though the guest star came and went, a part of their time on the show had not. Lucifer, aka one of Netflix users’ favorite shows, had made a lot of cutouts for Ryan Alosio’s character Jenson Glory. As in a lot of them. That is how a prank got started. One that was done on Tom Ellis’ birthday.

Tom Ellis explained the incident, saying:

Nothing like a “Happy Birthday” prank to get the day in high gear. That is not where it ended for Tom Ellis. The Lucifer star went on to reveal that the cutouts also appeared in his bathroom. His co-star Lauren German (Chloe) acknowledged that she had somehow managed to fit a giant one in the bathroom, which Ellis described as “tiny.”

Tom Ellis clearly finds the incident quite memorable, as it had to have occurred a while ago. Keep in mind, the episode of Lucifer that guest star was in aired almost three years ago, back on November 14, 2016. Interestingly just a few days before Ellis’ birthday, which is on November 17.

Lucifer fans, it's time to lower the pitchforks. It wasn't long after Netflix announced that the 10-episode Season 5 would be the series' last that some attempted to spark up renewal efforts on social media, and now it appears that all those efforts and future efforts will be in vain.

Disappointed parties needn't worry, though, as Lucifer's executive producer Ildy Modrovich assured fans that things are different this time around. In a lengthy statement via Twitter, she explained how this cancellation differs from the last, and why it's ok (although she is torn) that the series is actually going to go away for real this time.

Straight from the horse's mouth, it appears that there's no use in trying to bring Lucifer back from the dead a second time. The good news is that Ildy Modrovich and others are grateful Netflix was upfront about this information, and that there's now plenty of time to figure out the correct way to draw this series to a close over its next ten episodes.

Which, as many Lucifer fans may remember, is a luxury that wasn't afforded to the former Fox drama the first time it was cancelled. Now an intentional series finale can be plotted out, which will at the very least be more satisfying than when it initially ended on a cliffhanger. It's still not as satisfying as a Season 6 renewal, of course, but the best case scenario any cancelled series can hope for.

It's also a situation that could've happened in this most-recent season as Season 4 delivered a pretty big cliffhanger in its season finale that would've left Lucifans incredibly frustrated had Season 5 never happened. It appears as though viewers did all they could to ensure that renewal happened, by the way, as a third party report said Season 4 was one of May's most-binged shows on Netflix.

And right now, it appears that the major players in the Lucifer camp are thankful for how generous Netflix has been. Ildy Modrovich's message was shared by series star Tom Ellis specifically, who hoped he could help clear up some of the "confusion" that has plagued the show's loyal fanbase ever since the renewal.

Now, whether or not this means Tom Ellis isn't as upset about Lucifer being cancelled again we can't say. We do know that when Ellis spoke to CinemaBlend, he felt the story wasn't done yet. Obviously I'm referring to the fact that actor racked up over 666,000 followers, with the first half of that number tying in nicely with the evil at the heart of his titular character. I suppose the next goal will be to reach 666 million social media loyalists.

Lucifer Star Reveals The Big Villain He Thinks Should Return For Season 5

Now, let's pretend for a moment that reaching 666K followers could actually unlock genuine paranormal abilities within the real Tom Ellis, who chooses to use them for good, rather than for evil. Well, maybe just a little evil, by Ellis' own human standards.

By "good" in that hypothetical scenario, I specifically mean convincing Netflix to move Lucifer's official end date to some undisclosed time over the known horizon, thus reversing the previously announced cancellation after Season 5. Not to sound greedy or ungracious or anything for the two seasons that Netflix did order, but...

I suppose if Tom Ellis ever actually did have 666 million fans grouped together online, keeping Lucifer on the air wouldn't be quite as difficult. Meet and greets would be all but impossible, however.

Unfortunately, unless Netflix is specifically the one to spin the dial back around to order up Season 6, it doesn't look like fans' efforts to get more made will be very successful. Largely because the creative team came together and agreed that this would be conceived as Lucifer's final chapter.

Showrunner Ildy Modrovich recently explained that more directly while putting a pin in hopes for Lucifer's future beyond the ten episodes in Season 5.

In case anyone thinks that Tom Ellis stands in disagreement with that decision, he shared Modrovich's post himself with the following note:

I think being mournful over the news makes sense. Endings are never easy. Especially when it is a TV show you feel passionately about. Lucifer fans should feel proud that they managed to get two more seasons. They survived a network cancellation, and a streaming revival will bring its story to a close. It is bittersweet.

Just because you can cuss does not mean you have to. Lucifer began on network television, which meant it spent its first three seasons with a lot of limits. On that list of "don'ts" is the sort of profanity that you can and cannot say. As in, you cannot drop the F-bomb.

Having moved from the network censorship of Fox to the world of Netflix, Lucifer had newfound freedom creating its next installment. If it wanted one of its characters to drop the F-bomb in Season 4, they could. When it came time to decide on cussing, Lucifer was in uncharted waters.

Co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson explained the process that ensued. Modrovich said that while working on Lucifer’s fourth season, Henderson questioned the necessity of its usage. Asking if it was necessary to have the characters use the big “f.” Turns out, it was not right for Lucifer. Henderson explained why, telling TVLine:

I think it is nice that Lucifer’s co-showrunners were so considerate about it. You have older families who got hooked on a show when it was in its network form.

Just because it has moved to another platform does not mean everything about its original identity has to change. If that were to happen, they could not watch it together anymore or, at least, not as comfortably. That is not something you want to lose just to be a bit more “edgy.”

It is sort of an “if it is not broke” situation. Fans loved the show in its previous form. If it worked, then why mess with the formula? Profanity can be a controversial spice when not used sparingly. Plus, like any ingredient -- too much can be too much. Not using the F-bomb probably did not lose them the viewers that using it non-stop might have.

Lucifer’s showrunners' response regarding profanity sort of runs along the lines of another subject – nudity – that the show’s fourth season carefully maneuvered. Tom Ellis told CinemaBlend’s Laura Hurley why the show used restraint. He explained that Netflix had been “adamant” that they wanted the show as it used to be.

Pushing boundaries enough to keep things exciting without going too far seemed to be Lucifer’s goal. It is an interesting concept for network shows to wrestle with as some series have to transition to streaming. Viewers liked them the way they were.

There is still no word on another F-bomb – Season Five. The show has not gotten renewed by Netflix quite yet. Considering that hellish cliffhanger, fans are undoubtedly clamoring for more. Lucifer’s showrunners indicated that they expect to hear something within the month after Season 4’s release.

Lucifer made its long-awaited and quite devilish return to television this month with its Netflix premiere. The first three seasons aired on Fox, but the network shocked and devastated fans when it cancelled the series, and it didn't help that the Season 3 finale ended on a killer cliffhanger. Well, Netflix stepped in with the rescue, and releasing on Netflix means that it can push boundaries that could not be pushed on network television. More swearing, more violence, and much more nudity.

That said, none of the characters were going full frontal and dropping F-bombs at every opportunity. There were some instances of star Tom Ellis and other actors losing all their clothes, but they were only shot from behind in those instances. The nudist colony scenes were even carefully blocked so that nothing too racy showed. There was some careful positioning for Tom Ellis from the front, and Aimee Garcia's long hair came in very handy.

Why didn't Lucifer unleash itself more once it had the freedom of Netflix rather than Fox? Tom Ellis chatted with CinemaBlend about Lucifer on Netflix, and he said this when I noted that Lucifer still felt like the Lucifer fans had come to know and love:

Could Lucifer have shown a lot more skin of the various characters? Technically, sure. The orgy scenes from the episode aptly titled "Orgy Pants to Work" hinted at a lot but didn't show a ton, although the orgy pants themselves were missing a back. Apparently, a very handy design for devilish orgies. When Lucifer showed up to a crime scene wearing his orgy pants, Chloe was understandably mortified and not thrilled at the influence Eve was having on him.

Was it all racier than would have happened on Fox? Absolutely. Was it so racy that Lucifer no longer resembled Lucifer, and fans of all ages couldn't enjoy the show? Definitely not. That's not to say that I would want to watch a scene about orgy pants with kids or my grandparents, but nobody was walking around full frontal.

Tom Ellis explained what it was like filming the nudist colony scenes, comparing it to a sequence from Austin Powers and noting that Lucifer is an interesting show that can go with "sort of a fun, silly sequence like that" to "talking about sex trafficking at the end" of the episode.

He also explained that he's so used to walking around without his clothes on for Lucifer -- even if it's not shown on screen -- that he just laughs about it. In fact, he and Aimee Garcia laughed their way through the nudist colony filming, which could have been awkward otherwise. So, fans can enjoy the sequence without worrying that the actors were uncomfortable with it!

Unfortunately, there's no news at this point about whether or not Lucifer could get a Season 5 after its hellish Season 4 cliffhanger. The season ended with Lucifer back in Hell, ruling over the demons to prevent them from escaping to Earth and wreaking havoc there. Tom Ellis did confirm that the cast would be on board for more, and they "don't think we feel like we've finished telling our story yet."

The best thing you can do to encourage Netflix to renew Lucifer is probably to watch and even rewatch the series streaming. Social media campaigns certainly don't hurt, as the #SaveLucifer effort following the cancellation by Fox guaranteed that people kept talking about the show until Netflix finally announced the good news. All four seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.

Lucifer finally returned for its long-awaited fourth season on May 8. The devilishly fun series about Lucifer Morningside leaving Hell to help solve crimes with the humans of Los Angeles was cancelled by Fox shortly before its Season 3 finale, and fans spent a month fiercely campaigning on social media for another platform to pick it up. Netflix stepped in with the save, and the new season on Netflix was able to unleash the Devil in ways he could never be unleashed on network television.

Season 4 ended on a cliffhanger that was positively hellish, as it literally sent Lucifer back to Hell to serve as king again. This wasn't the first time that Lucifer ended a season on a killer cliffhanger with no guarantee of another season coming, but Lucifer returning to Hell is arguably a much bigger deal than Chloe seeing his Devil face. There are a number of factors that come into play when it comes to the future of Lucifer, and Netflix notoriously does not release ratings numbers like broadcast and cable platforms do.

Fortunately, Lucifer star Tom Ellis chatted with CinemaBlend about the show, and he weighed in on whether or not he was hopeful about another batch of episodes. Here's what he had to say:

Based on the Season 4 cliffhanger, I think most viewers would agree with Tom Ellis that the story isn't finished just yet! There are still so many questions that need to be answered about the new status quo. It's all but inconceivable that Lucifer could stay down in Hell forever, no matter how noble his reasons were for returning. Doesn't Lucifer's Devil deserve a happier ending than the throne of Hell? He's not the Supernatural Lucifer, after all!

Lucifer returned to Hell despite his triumph over the demons on Earth, which in theory should have meant he could safely continue to live in Los Angeles and investigate crimes with Chloe and the rest of the LAPD. Amenadiel and Linda's newborn son Charlie was rescued by Amenadiel, Lucifer, Maze, Eve, and Chloe before they could take him to Hell and mold him into their new king. Hell could only be ruled by an angel, and Charlie's status as a half-angel was apparently enough for him to qualify.

Although the good guys won the day and destroyed the demons, Lucifer had already revealed that he had no intention of returning to Hell, which meant that demons would try to get to Earth and wreak havoc for so long as he wasn't there to control them. He couldn't plug all the holes and keep living his life on Earth, so he returned to Hell.

Notably, as he sat the throne in Hell, he wasn't showing his devil face, and he'd already shown that his wings were white and fluffy again rather than bat-like, as they were earlier in Season 4.

After his journey in Season 4, it's easy to believe that he'll stick to the straight and narrow as much as the Devil can even after returning to Hell. He'll probably always be the guy who will happily strip down to hang out in a nudist colony, but he can also be good. And now he has extra motivation: Chloe.

Lucifer's Tom Ellis Bares All About Nudist Colony Episode, Getting Naked On Set

Lucifer and Chloe weren't on the greatest terms for a lot of Season 4. She was freaked out by his status as the Devil, and she began working with a priest to try and send him back to Hell. She ultimately couldn't bring herself to do it, but Lucifer still felt incredibly betrayed that she came close. He started a very hot and heavy relationship with Eve -- yes, that Eve -- that took him down a dark path that Chloe was not happy about.

Still, they ended the season confessing their love to each other and sharing a sweet kiss. She begged him not to leave her, but he had to go for the greater good. Poor Chloe really hasn't caught a break in the last couple of finales, has she? For an episode that started with a jubilant Lucifer starring in his own musical number to the tune of the Caddyshack theme song, it sure did get dark!

On the non-Lucifer Lucifer front, there are plenty of stories to be resolved as well. Ella rediscovered her faith by the end of the finale, and there's always the possibility that her unlikely hookup with Dan could be revisited in another season. Maze still carries a torch for Eve, and Dan is working on his recovery from what happened to Charlotte.

Amenadiel and Linda have to figure out how to raise a half-angel baby, who will hopefully be safe from being forcibly dragged to either Heaven or Hell in the future. Surely we deserve to see for ourselves, though, right?

If you want to see a fifth season of Lucifer, then best thing you can do is probably to watch and even rewatch on Netflix. All four seasons are available streaming, not just the one produced specifically for Netflix. Some social media activity couldn't hurt either, especially after the campaign to #SaveLucifer was so effective.

We'll have to wait and see what Netflix decides. The streaming giant hasn't shied away from axing beloved series lately, so there are no guarantees for shows that aren't mega-hits like Stranger Things.

Lucifer made its long-awaited return to television on May 8 after being cancelled last spring by Fox and then rescued by Netflix for a fourth season. Releasing on Netflix means that Lucifer can push some boundaries that definitely couldn't have been pushed on network television. Lucifer embraced its new freedom in the fourth season by showing a whole lot more of good old Lucifer and other characters than ever before, especially in a certain episode that saw an investigation take them to a nudist colony.

Awesomely called "Orgy Pants to Work," the episode sees Lucifer, Ella, and Chloe chase a murder investigation to a nudist colony, and two of those three were happier to embrace the naturalist way of life than the other. Lucifer was of course ready to shed his clothes, and it was a bucket list opportunity for Ella, so actors Tom Ellis and Aimee Garcia bared it all. Ellis chatted with CinemaBlend about Season 4, and he shared this about filming the nudist colony sequence:

Lucifer and Ella don't waste any time in shedding their clothes as soon as they arrived at the nudist colony, much to Chloe's dismay. The episode didn't give any full frontal shots of any of the actors appearing in the nudist colony scenes, but there was a shot of both Tom Ellis and Aimee Garcia nude from the back as they walked away from Chloe.

Lucifer avoided showing anything too risqué thanks to some strategically placed objects and pieces of furniture as Lucifer and Ella questioned potential witnesses to a crime, and Aimee Garcia's hair was long enough to provide some coverage for her in the front, so it was a really fun way to embrace the nudist colony lifestyle more explicitly than could have happened on Fox but without getting gratuitous.

As Tom Ellis said, it was reminiscent of a similar scene from Austin Powers, when convenient blocking kept anything too explicit from appearing on screen. Considering the episode's unexpected turn from nudist colony shenanigans and orgies to sex trafficking and a very dark twist for Lucifer by the time the credits rolled, the silliness definitely prevents the episode from feeling too dark and depressing. Lucifer is still Lucifer; it just has the freedom to embrace extremes more.

As viewers know, Lucifer didn't play Ella and Lucifer hanging out together in the buff as anything other than two friends working a case and just so happening to be naked for it. When I noted that the scene was hilariously casual between Lucifer and Ella, Tom Ellis elaborated:

As Lucifer fans who got the show renewed know, Lucifer is naked or at least partly naked fairly often; the camera just conveniently pans away from showing too much. That doesn't mean that Tom Ellis isn't walking around set without much of anything on.

Just as actors have spoken out about how love scenes can be awkward and even kissing scenes are far from romantic to film, nudity on the Lucifer set isn't anything glamorous. Fortunately, Tom Ellis and Aimee Garcia, in this case, were able to laugh about it.

Honestly, how could you not laugh about it? Lucifer excels at embracing the absurd in incredibly fun ways. How many shows can send the Devil into a nudist colony to investigate a crime by the side of his forensic scientist friend, who also enthusiastically shed her clothes, and have it make sense? As unfortunate as it was last spring during the time between Fox's cancellation and Netflix's rescue, I think it's safe to say that Netflix is the perfect new home for the Devil.

Ahead of Lucifer Season 4, Tom Ellis went through an extensive workout process that resulted in some ripped and shirtless photos on Instagram. When I asked if he enjoyed getting to show off all his hard work with the increased nudity in Season 4, he said this:

Thanks to Tom Ellis' hard work on the workout front between the end of Season 3 and the beginning of Season 4, Lucifer showed off some serious muscles whenever he took off his clothes in Season 4.

His new look apparently impressed folks on set just as much as fans who checked out his appearance after Lucifer was gone for so much longer than usual! Kudos to Ellis for staying focused and achieving a goal set by his trailer. All presumably without making any deals with the Devil!

Lucifer Season 4 is almost here! The season that almost never was is about to be. When it arrives, it will do so as it has never done before -- on Netflix and in its entirety. Instead of weekly reactions to each installment, fans will have the entire season to respond to.

Does it feel different for the series’ star, Tom Ellis, knowing that weekly reactions to Lucifer Season 4 will not be a factor? In an interview with CinemaBlend’s Laura Hurley, Ellis responded:

Prepare for detonation. Fans being able to binge every episode is going to be a big change of pace. Lucifer’s fourth season is comprised of 10 episodes. That's a duration that should make for a traditional-sized Netflix marathon.

Unlike having to wait an entire week to find out what will happen next, Lucifer fans just have to wait five seconds or less. Considering how much viewers had to go through to get it, they should devour it.

Having been saved by Netflix, a few changes should be in store. A teaser for the upcoming season hinted there would be at least one. When asked if he had a favorite thing about the shift to Netflix, Tom Ellis said:

There will be fewer episodes than usual, which should make Season 4 more of a concentrated dose. Lucifer’s first season went for 13 episodes, the second season had 18 episodes, and the third and final one on Fox had 26.

From what Tom Ellis is saying, fans can expect to see an edgy L.A., which sounds intriguing. There will also be more swearing. Moving from network television to the free range of streaming will do that to a show. Will Lucifer be pushing any other limits with its newfound freedom? Tom Ellis dished some other things to expect:

Upon the series getting saved by Netflix, Lucifer’s showrunners talked about the show getting a little more uncensored. Among the limitations lifted, they discussed the show getting more realistic in the realm of horror -- one of the cornerstone aspects of the genre series -- along with the added element of showing more skin.

Fans do not have much longer to wait to find out all of the changes that end up snapping into place. The new season is set to be a wild and eventful one. A giant payoff for those who fought so hard to bring it back after Fox cancelled it last year.

Among the new characters set to make their way to Lucifer Season 4 are a priest and the mother of Cain, aka Eve. Outlander’s Graham McTavish will recur as Father Kinley, a respected priest, well-known for his caring and profoundly empathetic nature. He's said to be willing to take any measures necessary to protect humanity from evil, so the wicked better watch out.

Eve will be played Imposters’ Inbar Lavi. She sounds destined to shake things up quite a bit on her own. Find out how the new characters and the original come together when Lucifer makes its big Netflix debut.

It's been almost a year since Lucifer scored a heavenly renewal by Netflix after its unexpected cancellation by Fox, and the streaming giant has yet to release a premiere date for the fourth season. The good news is that Lucifer has now released a fun new video hyping the new season, and it features star Tom Ellis showing a lot of skin and teasing a threesome, of all things! Prepare yourself for something truly devilish and take a look:

The video (as posted on the official Lucifer Twitter account) actually starts out tamely enough, with leading lady Lauren German strolling out to join Inbar Lavi in front of the camera. Lavi is a Lucifer newcomer who will portray Eve -- as in Eve of Adam and Eve -- in Season 4, and her character may set her sights on Lucifer, which makes the end of the video all the funnier.

Lauren German was channeling her inner Chloe as she tried to keep the promo on track and spoiler-free, but it was unsurprisingly thrown off by Tom Ellis in full Lucifer mode. Ellis trotted out on camera in a Netflix robe, carrying a Netflix mug, to reveal that he feels very at home on the streaming service. He got serious for a moment as he thanked fans and hinted very exciting things to come in the new episodes... then mentioned "a very juicy scene" with the three of them getting... something.

Tom Ellis was cut off by Lauren German before he could explain what makes the scene so juicy, but it was pretty clear that he was alluding to a threesome. Inbar Lavi's expression gives the impression that Eve would be down; I have some serious doubts about Chloe. The stripping comes at almost the very end, when Ellis revealed that the one way Lucifer could notably change is by viewings getting to see "a little bit more of him."

A carefully placed chair prevented the video from showing off any of Tom Ellis' assets, but considering some of the comments from the co-showrunner, we may want to expect to see Lucifer showing more skin than was allowed on Fox. He's certainly in great enough shape to strip down for the streaming service! Throw in how pumped he was about the revival news, and we can probably count on all kinds of fun shenanigans in Season 4.

The only bad thing about this video is that it doesn't reveal when exactly fans can expect to see Lucifer make its Season 4 premiere. The first three seasons are already available for streaming. The official Lucifer Twitter account first said "when hell freezes over" when asked via tweet when the premiere date would release, but it followed with "lol jk don't worry it's coming soon." So stay tuned!

Tom Ellis has a lot to be excited for right now. After a devastating few days in which the lead Lucifer actor learned his Fox series was cancelled, Ellis was at the heart of a campaign to help the series find a new home. The fans rallied around the cast, and not only was the show picked up for Season 4, it was picked up by the super popular streaming service Netflix. There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the new series that is coming, but Ellis revealed he's especially pumped the show is heading to the streaming service instead of another network because of the way the show will be structured moving forward. He said:

Over the past several years as cable, streaming services and subscription cable networks have begun producing more original TV programs, the episode counts for those shows have often dropped down to 13, 10 or even eight episodes. At the outset, this may not seem to be a good thing, as fewer episodes means less work and a smaller paycheck for the actors and staff involved (as well as less content for audiences to consume). However, from a creative standpoint, fewer episodes is often ideal, and Tom Ellis explained to EW that he's happy as a clam the show will get 10 episodes next season. In his case, it also likely helps that Lucifer was already canceled once. Any additional episodes probably seem like bonus at this point.

With 10 episodes, Lucifer will produce a series that is the same length as a few other shows on the subscription streaming service, like Mindhunter and Making a Murderer. We'll have to wait and see whether or not a fifth season might eventually be in the cards, but with the 10-episode count in mind, I'd also like to point out the Lucifer creative team has been busy sharing scripts on social media. Most recently the writers shared a look at the third episode script, which means the new season of the series is nearly a third of the way through production already.

How the production timeline relates to when the series actually makes a return to television remains a gigantic question mark, and Netflix sometimes takes its sweet time before announcing when a new show or project will hit the airwaves. Tom Ellis is an actor who is in shape, so much so that this year he was even a part of a Comic-Con panel with a bunch of other buff dudes that EW calls "Brave Warriors," but might as well be called "Dudes Who Look Great With Shirts Off." Since his TV show Lucifer is no longer cancelled, he can't be expected to sit around and eat chips and put on a few pounds anymore, either. In fact, he recently shared that he's been getting in shape for the upcoming Season 4. He's even been busy hashtagging recent posts with the cleverly worded #DevilTraining. Take a look.

We've known since June that Netflix was happy enough with the product that Lucifer had been putting out on Fox that the subscription streaming service picked up the show for Season 4. Netflix isn't exactly on a network schedule, however, so it's unclear when all of the episodes in Season 4 will drop. However, we did learn a while ago that production on the new season of Lucifer was expected to happen this month, and the first day of production officially began on August 13. So, if Tom Ellis isn't in devilishly good shape yet, he'd better be happy with where he's at because Season 4 is already rolling.

We should note the move to get back in shape is not solely show-centered, however. The actor revealed a few weeks ago that he and his daughter actually have a bet going, in which Tom Ellis has to get a 6-pack by November, when he turns 40. If he doesn't, he loses in more ways than one. Luckily, training seems to be going well so far.

Lucifer Season 4 very nearly never happened, and those who are involved with the show have been open about being grateful that the series has a second chance. It looks like Tom Ellis is taking things a step further by getting into peak fitness for the role, as well. Plus, there's nothing better to clear your mind about approaching a new decade of your life than being in the best shape of your life. Here's hoping 2019, with its milestone birthday and milestone TV season for Ellis, ends up being a great year.
