This week marks a big milestone for The Daily Show on Comedy Central, as it was 30 years ago — July 22, 1996, to be exact — that Craig Kilborn’s version of the satiric news show first aired. The show has seen several hosts sitting behind the desk in that time, including Trevor Noah, who vacated the position in 2022 after seven years. So why did the comedian leave what seemed to be such a good job? Noah had a pretty thoughtful response.

Trevor Noah made a significant impact on The Daily Show over the seven years that he hosted it, winning two Emmy Awards from more than a dozen nominations. During a visit to The Diary of a CEO podcast, he said there wasn’t just one thing that prompted his exit, but he gave a couple of reasons:

Fair enough. If Trevor Noah wasn’t used to seeing shows last for a decade or longer, he likely never intended to stay longer than he did. However, what was possibly a bigger factor was the realization he came to in 2020. In Noah’s words:

With many people forced to stay home during COVID, and as the former Daily Show host said, many found some benefits to being able to spend more time with their loved ones. Trevor Noah didn’t have that experience — and he realized it wasn’t just because of the lockdown. He continued:

Once the world started to open up again, Trevor Noah looked back at the previous seven or eight years and decided to make a change, saying:

Since he left The Daily Show, Trevor Noah has put out some comedy specials, started a podcast and served as the host of the Grammy Awards. Hopefully he’s also had plenty of time to travel and reconnect with friends and family.

As for The Daily Show, new episodes continue to air on the 2026 TV schedule, but it hasn’t seen one permanent host since Noah’s departure. Guest hosts initially filled in before Jon Stewart returned to host Monday nights, with correspondents Michael Kosta, Desi Lydia, Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper and Josh Johnson rotating on the other days of the week.

With the 30th anniversary upon us, it’s a good time to look back at the hosts — namely Trevor Noah, Craig Kilborn and Jon Stewart — who made the comedic news program what it is and how much work they put into it.

Blake Lively As Lady Deadpool In Deadpool & Wolverine 

Leading into Deadpool & Wolverine’s release, the speculation about who would play Lady Deadpool was running rampant. However, it wasn’t all too shocking when it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively was playing the female variant of her partner’s merc with the mouth.  

Sam Neill As Odin’s Actor In Thor: Ragnarok 

While the Thor: Ragnarok cast is stacked with legends like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum and more, Taika Waititi also assembled quite the ensemble of cameos to play a troupe of actors in Asgard who put on a play about Thor and his family. This included Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill, who portrayed Anthony Hopkins’ King of Asgard, Odin.  

Stan Lee As Various Characters 

While future MCU projects sadly won’t have any in-person Stan Lee cameos, we can always re-watch the Marvel movies in order to see the legendary comic writer. Before his death in 2018, Stan Lee made cameos in just about every Marvel project, whether it was from Marvel Studios, Fox or Sony. 

Some fan-favorite cameos from him included his role as a security guard in Captain America: The Winter Solider, a New York resident being interviewed on the news in The Avengers and an astronaut telling a story to the Watchers in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, among many, many, many others. 

Matt Damon As Loki’s Actor In Thor: Ragnarok 

In the play Loki orchestrated in Thor: Ragnarok that tells the (not so true) story of him and his family, Matt Damon was cast to play the role of Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief. Which honestly, is inspired casting. Damon also popped in the non-MCU Deadpool 2. 

Kevin Bacon As Himself In Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Bringing a joke from Guardians of the Galaxy full circle almost eight years later, Peter’s hero Kevin Bacon finally appears. However, it’s kind of against his will, because Drax and Mantis decide to go to Earth and steal the Footloose actor to give to Chris Pratt’s character as a gift of holiday cheer.  

Miley Cyrus As Mainframe In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we see a group of Ravagers approach The Guardians. One of them is a robot head named Mainframe, and it's voiced by Miley Cyrus.

Trevor Noah As Griot In Black Panther

Much like how Paul Bettany voiced J.A.R.V.I.S., Trevor Noah voiced Griot, Shuri’s artificial intelligence she uses at her lab in Wakanda in Black Panther. 

Melissa McCarthy As Hela’s Actress In Thor: Love and Thunder 

Adding to the mix of A-listers playing actors who are playing Thor characters (try saying that five times fast), Melissa McCarthy took on the role of Cate Blanchett’s Hela – the goddess of death – in Thor: Love and Thunder. She joined the theatrical company that already featured Sam Neill, Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth to reenact the events of Thor: Ragnarok in Taika Waititi’s second movie about the God of Thunder.

You probably know that Kenneth Branagh directed the first Thor movie. However, what you might not know is he provided a meaningful Easter egg for Avengers: Infinity War. He voiced the Asgardian Distress Call that was played after Thanos attacked their ship.

Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello made one of the first cameos in the MCU when he popped up for a quick second in Iron Man. In the movie, he played a guard in the Ten Rings camp that Tony Stark was being held at.

Along with Bill Maher and a bunch of other TV personalities, Joan Rivers popped up to rib on War Machine’s rebranding in Iron Man 3. 

Harry Dean Stanton As Security Guard In The Avengers

In The Avengers, there’s a security guard who finds Bruce Banner after he crashes into the Earth as Hulk. That guard is played by Harry Dean Stanton, who is best known for his roles in classic films like Alien, The Green Mile, Paris Texas and Repo Man. 

Justin Theroux As Police Officer In Iron Man 2

Not only did Justin Theroux write Iron Man 2, but he also had the smallest blink-and-you-’ll-miss-it cameo, per CBR. He played one of the police officers who arrested Justin Hammer and escorted Pepper Potts off the premises toward the end of the film.

In many of James Gunn’s movies, Rob Zombie makes a cameo. After doing that for Slither and Super, he lent his voice to his friend's first Marvel movie by voicing a Ravager Navigator in Guardians of the Galaxy.

David Hasselhoff As Himself In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

When Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill was a kid he’d pretend that David Hasselhoff was his dad. So, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Hasselhoff was part of one of the songs on the soundtrack – “Guardians Inferno” –  and it plays during the end credits. And at the very end of those credits, you can see his face pop up as he says the final words of the song. Talk about an epic cameo.

Brett Goldstein As Hercules In Thor: Love and Thunder

In the post-credit scene for Thor: Love and Thunder, Brett Goldstein appeared as Hercules. In his brief scene, he was shown speaking with Russell Crowe’s Zeus. It was thrilling to see the Ted Lasso star show up as the son of Zeus, however, it’s been years since that happened, and he hasn’t shown up again. 

Ken Jeong As Security Guard In Avengers: Endgame

Before the Russo Brothers were making big fancy Marvel movies, they worked on Community. So, it’s always fun to see actors from that show pop up in the MCU. For example in Avengers: Endgame, Ken Jeong appeared for a quick cameo as a security guard who is watching over the storage unit that Ant-Man’s van is in. 

Nathan Fillion As Monstrous Inmate In Guardians of the Galaxy And Headpool In Deadpool And Wolverine

You can see Nathan Fillion (looking like himself) as a major member of the supporting cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as he plays Master Karja. However, before that, he had a cameo in James Gunn’s first Guardians movie, because he voiced “Monstrous Inmate.” After that, he voiced Headpool during the Deadpool variant fight in Deadpool and Wolverine. 

Brad Pitt As The Vanisher In Deadpool 2

Now, I fully realize Deadpool 2 wasn’t technically in the MCU, but Deadpool and Wolverine is, so this counts. One of the most fun cameos maybe ever came when Brad Pitt appeared for a split second in the Ryan Reynolds-led sequel to play The Vanisher right as he gets electrocuted. 

Joe Russo As Grieving Man In Avengers: Endgame

Joe and Anthony Russo are best known as the guys behind the camera who led some of the best Marvel movies, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and, of course, Avengers: Endgame. So, in this big finale for the MCU’s Infinity Saga, Joe Russo made a cameo as part of Steve Rogers' support group. 

Yvette Nicole Brown As S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent In Avengers: Endgame

The Russo Brothers didn’t forget their roots, and included multiple members of the Community cast in their Marvel movies. This included Yvette Nicole Brown, who played a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that Tony Stark and Steve Rogers run into when they go back in time to steal Pym Particles. 

David Bradley As Tower Keeper In Captain America: The First Avenger

David Bradley is a legendary British character actor, and you’ll likely recognize him for his role as Filch in the Harry Potter cast or as The Doctor in various episodes of Doctor Who. He also notably played a small role as the Tower Keeper protecting the Tesseract in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Danny Pudi As Com Tech #1 In Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Russo Brothers adore their Community cast, so in their first Marvel movie, they gave Danny Pudi, Abed himself, a little cameo. For a brief minute, you can see him as Com Tech #1 during the beloved Captain America sequel.

While Ant-Man himself is played by a comedy legend, that actor being Paul Rudd, there’s another hilarious icon in this cast. Yep, original Saturday Night Live cast member Garrett Morris (who actually dressed up as the superhero on the sketch comedy show back in the day) appeared in this movie as a man driving a car that Ant-Man fell onto, and it’s fantastic!

Matthew McConaughey As Cowboypool In Deadpool and Wolverine

When all the variants of Deadpool appeared to fight Deadpool and Wolverine, one of them was Cowboypool. Fittingly, the Western Merc with the Mouth was voiced by Matthew McConaughey.

Henry Cavill As Cavillrine In Deadpool and Wolverine

When Wade Wilson was looking for a Wolverine to bring back to his universe, he came across one version of Logan who was played by Henry Cavill. After seeing fanart of the former Superman as the X-Man, it was clear he was a good fit for the part, and it was incredible to see Deadpool and Wolverine act on the fans’ wishes. 

As you can see the range of these cameos is wide, and frankly legendary. And we’re sure that as Marvel continues to release movies and TV shows, the iconic cameos will keep coming. 

Back in December 2022, seven years after he succeeded Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah exited the Comedy Central program. Over the course of 2023, various guests hosts sat in his place at the anchor desk, ranging from major celebrities to the show’s correspondents, but eventually a permanent host was going to be selected to take over. Well, apparently that’s not the plan for the foreseeable future, and I’m confused by this turn of events.

According to Variety, when The Daily Show returns from its hiatus, it will “rely heavily on a team of correspondents to lead each night.” It’s unclear if the “final assemblage of talent” has been assembled yet, but the show’s current lineup of correspondents includes Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydia, Michael Kosta, Dulcé Sloan, Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt, along with Lewis Black and Jordan Klepper being classified as contributors. Roy Wood Jr. left The Daily Show back in October after deciding that eight years was a “good run” as a correspondent, and it was only a few days ago he was seen mouthing “Please hire a host” at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Additionally, it was mentioned that past celebrities who guest hosted The Daily Show in 2023 could be called back for more appearances, but for now, the plan is to spotlight the correspondents and place the search for a permanent host on the back burner indefinitely. Instead, Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global’s president, as reportedly said the satirical news program will be relying more on a “newsroom” concept going forward. Comedy Central also announced after the Emmys that it will be “sharing its plans for The Daily Show’s next chapter” sometime next week.

As someone who’s been watching The Daily Show for almost 20 years, I find the decision to not to pick a permanent host baffling. To be fair, it is noted in Variety’s report that this move will likely save money. So I can understand this as a cost-cutting measure, particularly since the show only pulled in under $19 million in ad revenue in 2023, a sharp decrease from $39.9 million in 2022. I also understand that finding a permanent host was sidelined when the series when on an extended break last year because of the writers strike, though the search was reportedly widening in September.

But from a purely creative standpoint, not tapping someone to permanently succeed Trevor Noah just feels too weird. Yes, the correspondents are an integral part of this show and it’s good to occasionally see them stretch their comedy muscles at that news desk, but there’s something to be said about someone consistently sitting there. Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah’s profiles got significant boosts from their tenures on The Daily Show, it’d be nice if someone else could experience such success. 

There was a time when Hasan Minhaj was allegedly the frontrunner to take over hosting The Daily Show, and even Kal Penn was reportedly under consideration for the job. And while the idea of hiring a new permanent host hasn’t been taken off the table completely (there’s been speculation that John Mulaney was approached in the “recent past”), as we continue into 2024, get used to continuing to see the show’s correspondents leading the charge.

The Daily Show is still in an interesting position over a year after the departure of its most recent host, Trevor Noah. As of this writing, Comedy Central has still yet to land on a permanent replacement for Noah, and various guest presenters have been brought in during the interim. One person who was largely viewed as a prime candidate for the job was Roy Wood Jr., a longtime writer and correspondent on the program. Wood has since left the program but still seems eager for the talk show to find a new lead. On that note, he was seen mouthing “Please hire a host” when Noah accepted an Emmy for the show, and Wood has since responded. 

During the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards, The Daily Show managed to take home the prize for Outstanding Talk Series. Many seemed focused on Trevor Noah’s acceptance speech, in which he joked that he knew the show could win if HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was not in the category. However, an astute social media user noticed that Roy Wood Jr. – who was among the crew that stood behind Noah on stage – lip synced the previously mentioned phrase. When called out for the sly moment, Wood dropped a brief, but cheeky response on X: 

Social media commentators will certainly keep you on your toes, that’s for sure. It’s honestly pretty impressive just how often some viewers manage to pick up on small details. If I’m being completely honest, I totally missed what the comedian did after his former show became one of the 75th Emmy Awards winners. His actions may be humorous on the surface, yet they also indicate the feelings of so many who would like the program to find a new host. 

Over the past few months, it was reported that the network was conducting a wide search for the next person to sit in the coveted host’s chair. Comedian Hasan Minhaj had reportedly emerged as a frontrunner for the Daily Show job by August 2023. However, plans apparently changed after Minhaj was embroiled in a controversy, which saw him accused of embellishing parts of his personal life in his comedy routines. 

Roy Wood Jr., who was on the show from 2015 to 2023, was largely viewed as the heir apparent to Trevor Noah. Also an actor, Wood is known for his sharp writing and forward delivery, which was present when he roasted “a-holes” at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2023. Wood discussed the possibility of hosting the long-running political chat show in late 2022. At the time, he acknowledged that one “can’t say no to an opportunity like that” but also admitted that he hadn’t given it too much thought. 

There’s currently no way to tell who just might be tapped by the network to take on the position that was once held by Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah. There are two things that can be said at this moment, though. The first is that whoever winds up with the job is going to have some massive shoes to fill. And the second is that after Roy Wood Jr.’s comments, it appears that more than a few people are still invested in this talent search. We’ll see if they stay “chill” while the decision is made.

Shockingly enough, it’s been nearly a year since comedian Trevor Noah stepped down from his run as the host of The Daily Show, and in a situation that echoes the issues Jeopardy! had following Alex Trebek’s death, the Comedy Central mainstay has yet to cement a permanent replacement. One of the early fan-favorites who was thought to be a major contender to take over the desk was Roy Wood Jr., who first signed on as a correspondent back in 2015 when Noah first replaced Jon Stewart. Those hopes seem to be dying on the vine, however, as Wood says he’s set to make his Daily Show exit. Say it ain’t so, Ro…y!

Roy Wood Jr. opened up about his decision to leave the cable hit with NPR, explaining that it’s not doing his career a whole lot of good to stick around a TV gig that isn’t actively pushing him higher up the call sheet, as it were. Here’s how he put it: 

Hard to argue with that kind of logic, especially since the WGA strike and SAG-AFTRA strike brought the industry to a grinding halt throughout the summer, which no doubt gave Wood more time to think about what his future options are. The hilarious stand-up star revealed that he's already alerted his bosses at Comedy Central of the decision, but that at the time of the interview, he had not brought he news up with anyone at The Daily Show proper. Which technically means there could still be time for the show's producers to make the move to secure him as the host for the long run.

Because even though he wants to bow out, Roy Wood Jr. says he's not in the know about who the top options are to take over the host position, which presumably shifted somewhat after Hasan Minhaj went from major frontrunner to difficult choice after he admitted to embellishing personal stories for his stand-up routines. And if it turns out he IS one of the comedians being considered? He might be swayed into saying yes. In his words:

Wood spoke in the past about possibly landing the host job as Trevor Noah's replacement, and if he sounds willing to still be interested after ten months of seeking out other candidates, take him up on it! The dude clearly knows the job, and has proven his skills as a guest host in the interim. Which isn't to say that other potential options like Kal Penn aren't worthy of taking over, but I just want it to be Wood's time to shine. 

Alas, if this statement from Comedy Central is anything to go on, Roy Wood Jr. is already being viewed as a former employee:

It may be hard to believe, but it’s been almost a year since Trevor Noah announced his exit from The Daily Show. The comedian hosted the satirical talk show for seven years and officially departed his post in December 2022. In recent months, the political and social commentary-fueled talk show has been trying to find a new permanent host and has been utilizing a number of guest hosts. All the while, Noah has been pursuing other endeavors. And based on his exploits, one gets the feeling that he doesn't plan on slowing down any time soon.

What Trevor Noah Said About His Future When He Departed The Daily Show

When Trevor Noah made his exit announcement, he expressed interest in touring again as a stand-up comedian. Due to his obligations to the show, he hadn’t really had time to focus on his comedy. So just a month after leaving The Daily Show, Noah hit the road on his Off the Record Tour. When initially discussing his post-talk show intentions, the star said the following:

As mentioned above, the Coming 2 America alum also wanted to spend more time with his family in South Africa. He mentioned that he wanted to produce and operate behind the camera and was “working on different ideas.” It sounded like he had a lot planned prior to his exit. It would now seem nearly a year later, that his dreams are mostly coming true, as he's been quite productive.

What Trevor Noah Is Up To Now

At present, the former host is continuing to tour. According to StubHub, he has dates lined up in South Africa, India, Dubai, the US, and the UK through April, with several of them rescheduled from earlier this year. People also exclusively shared the cover for the star's upcoming book, Into the Uncut Grass. It’s described as a “moving modern fable” that's for readers of all ages. It is set to release in bookstores on Halloween.

As if a book and a tour weren’t enough, Trevor Noah is still involved in the TV business as well. E! News reported back in May that he's executive-producing a U.S. version of the British late-night series, Mock the Week, for Amazon Freevee. The series will reportedly include stand-up comedy, panels, improvised games, and more. It will also feature two teams of comedians going head-to-head while discussing news, pop culture, and world events. As of now, updates on the program have been scarce and, given on that fun description, one would hope that the show arrives sooner rather than later.

It’s been weird watching the Comedy Central talk show without Trevor Noah, and one hopes The Daily Show will find someone to take over on a full-time basis soon. It seems Hasan Minhaj may be in the running, along with a few other pretty good choices. All the while, I'm glad to see Noah is still thriving and doing what he aimed to do. It wouldn’t be surprising if more were to come from him in the future, so fans may want to keep their eyes peeled for developments on that end.

The Daily Show is desperately in need of a host. Trevor Noah said goodbye to America and the coveted host role in September after being tapped to take over for Jon Stewart in 2015. The departure was surprising for many audiences, and behind-the-scenes personnel, who felt blindsided by the hosts' abrupt exit. After careful deliberation, it seems like the well-loved Comedy Central staple has finally found its front runner, and it shouldn’t be surprising to fans.

According to a report from Variety, comedina/actor Hasan Minhaj is being eyed to take over the role. Minhaj was one of the many guest hosts who filled in for Noah as the show continued without a permanent host. The comedian has experience hosting a political satire role, as he had his own show on Netflix called Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, which ran for six seasons. His Daily Show experience is also abundant, as he served as a correspondent under both Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah. 

For Daily Show fans, Minhaj was a staple and gained quick popularity amongst avid viewers. He rose to public prominence when he was selected to give a speech at the 2017 White House Correspondents Dinner during a time of extreme political controversy. The speech was viewed by millions, with many lauding his handling of the situations. Since the speech, the comedian has also had two very popular comedy specials: Homecoming King and The King’s Jester, both of which are available with a Netflix subscription.

While Minhaj has emerged as the front runner, he has not been the only name floated around in the months following Noah’s departure. Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. has also circled the position, and is still in the conversation. Additionally, correspondent Jessica Williams was named as a possible successor, however the Two Dope Queens star's commitment to acting may prevent her from taking over the chair. Williams currently stars alongside Jason Segal and Harrison Ford in the hit AppleTV+ show, Shrinking. 

While nothing is official quite yet, Minhaj’s status as a frontrunner is something all Daily Show fans should be excited about. He has been a friend of the show for a while now, and has proved himself as a unique political mind and is able to infuse his sense of humor into topical issues. He is a part of the long held tradition of getting content banned in other countries for his scathing commentary, and has a unique voice that will likely update the longstanding variety show, while also tonally being consistent with his predecessors. We’ll have to wait and see if the comedy star takes up the mantle.

Last December, after seven years of hosting The Daily Show following Jon Stewart’s exit, Trevor Noah departed the Comedy Central satirical news program. However, while Noah’s tenure began just a few weeks after Stewart’s grand farewell, there’s still no word on who will permanently take over in Noah’s place. Instead, the series has been going through guests hosts since mid-January, and the next round of these individuals has been announced.

Following the end of Saturday Night Live alum and former United DStates senator Al Franken’s time sitting at the anchor desk, and ahead of Violent Night’s John Leguizamo coming in next week, The Daily Show has revealed that the next round of guests hosts will be comprised of people who work on the series on corespondents or contributors. Roy Wood Jr. will kick things off from April 3-6, followed by Jordan Klepper from April 17-20, Desi Lydic from April 24-27, Dulcé Sloan from May 1-4 and Michael Kosta from May 8-11. Additionally, Lewis Black and Ronny Chieng are also confirmed to guest host, but their weeks haven’t been unveiled yet.

Along with Al Franken and John Leguizamo, these seven individuals follow behind people like Leslie Jones (who was the first to guest host post-Trevor Noah leaving), Wanda Sykes, Chelsea Handler, D.L. Hughley, Sarah Silverman, Hasan Manhaj (who worked on The Daily Show from 2014 to 2018) Marlon Wayans and Kal Penn. This new lineup also comprises the core group of talent that worked with Trevor Noah during his run as host.

As for how the search is going for someone to permanently succeed Trevor Noah, it had previously been said a successor will likely take over in fall 2023. Deadline has also heard that Comedy Central is reportedly still considering shifting The Daily Show over to “hosting duos and trios” rather than keeping it to just one person. As such, expect more guest shows to be announced for the summer, although I imagine that the series will take off either a month or two prior to when the shift to the new permanent host/format takes place.

For his part, Roy Wood Jr. said around the time Trevor Noah left The Daily Show that while “you can’t say no to an opportunity” like becoming the series’ permanent host, he also acknowledged that one would “have to sit and assess what you want to do creatively,” and at that point, he hadn’t thought about it yet. Ahead of his time hosting, Al Franken told CinemaBlend that he’d like to see Sarah Silverman permanently take over as host. One person we can safely rule out of the running is Jessica Williams, who was a correspondent from 2012 to 2016, but is “really happy” with where her career is going now.

Seven years after he was appointed by Jon Stewart to take over Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Trevor Noah said goodbye to the program in late 2022. Noah made it clear that one of his plans after his run on the show was to get back on the road and do more stand-up. One of his opening acts is a comic named Josh Johnson, and he also happened to be a writer for Noah on The Daily Show. Through being on the road performing with the man and helping to craft his narrative voice, Johnson obviously got to know Noah pretty well, and he gave CinemaBlend the lowdown on everything he learned from working with the comic.

Josh Johnson just released his latest stand-up special Up Here Killing Myself on Peacock. I spoke with the comedian about what his inspirations were, and when I asked what lessons he learned from the years he spent with Trevor Noah, he told me the following:

Well, this certainly paints a picture of Trevor Noah as being a pretty stand-up dude (no pun intended), and in this age where the big bosses in entertainment are being called out for the unfair treatment of their employees, this is refreshing to hear. Johnson went on to specifically explain how Noah helped him craft Up Here Killing Myself by differentiating between what material is meant for a special, a tour and a show:

What a mentor! Although the two no longer work together in an official capacity, and Johnson is becoming a big enough name to headline his own shows, it sounds like he learned plenty from Noah that he can take with him as his career continues to grow. 

As for Noah, once his stint on The Daily Show ended, he returned to stand-up as promised, which is where his career began and seems to be his preferred creative outlet. Many candidates have been rumored to replace Noah on The Daily Show, including correspondents Jessica Williams and Roy Wood Jr. While no official decision has been made public, the show is still going strong, as there’s a slew of guest hosts in the meantime including Chelsea Handler, Wanda Sykes and some solid SNL vets.

Taylor Swift fans are mighty, so much so that droves of them led Ticketmaster to basically break when a historic influx of buyers logged on the site to try and grab their tickets to her upcoming Eras Tour. In the aftermath of tons of Swifties facing the wrath of Ticketmaster, the Senate even called a hearing about the situation. Yep, that’s their power. The recent ordeal was the subject of a joke by Trevor Noah during this Sunday’s Grammys as the host called for Swifties to fix egg prices while sitting next to Swift. Just a couple days later, prices actually fell. 

So, are Swifties actually magic, or what? Before we break down what’s going on with egg prices in the United States, check out the Grammys moment between Taylor Swift and Trevor Noah: 

During the Grammys moment, Trevor Noah commended Taylor Swift for having “the best fans in the world,” noting what they did with Ticketmaster, which now may see a change in policies as a result of what went on with the Eras tour. Noah then asked if the fans could take that sheer power and put it into handling the price of eggs. Swift responded by saying “there’s really nothing that they can’t accomplish” before saying they would “get on it.” 

As you may have noticed if you’ve been grocery shopping over the past few months, eggs have been a lot more pricey lately. Due to a historic outbreak of bird flu in the U.S., Grade A eggs previously rose to record highs to over double their usual price. However, as CNBC reported, coincidently just a couple days after the Grammys, egg prices could finally be on the decline again. It has us double-taking whether Swifties somewhere somehow are behind the sudden shift in the egg market. They were certainly encouraged by the Grammys moment, posting things like this on Twitter: 

The actual news report does not include any reference to Swifties somehow landing on some loophole to lower egg prices following the Grammys moment, so it looks like this is a huge coincidence, but that’s not going to stop Swifties from theorizing about the whole thing (or all of us having fun with it), because it’s what they love to do. 

It’s not enough that Easter eggs in music videos for Taylor Swift’s upcoming music are already all the rage; now actual eggs are in the public conversation alongside Swifties. The report came thanks to trends around egg wholesale prices falling, perhaps signalling that retail prices will soon follow. While this is more than likely a chance occurrence, maybe we should get Swifties on more of our widespread issues? 

Taylor Swift won on Sunday night for Best Music Video for “All Too Well,” which Taylor Swift directed and starred Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink. Coming off her critical-acclaim for what was also essentially a short film, Swift is set to direct her first movie with Searchlight Pictures. Treat yourself to a big omelet in her honor! 

The Daily Show is in a period of transition following the departure of its most recent host, Trevor Noah. Since Noah signed off in December, the Comedy Central series has been relying on a lineup of guest hosts that includes notable names like Wanda Sykes and Leslie Jones. Though the entertainers who’ve sat at the desk thus far have their merits, one still can’t help but wonder who’ll take the gig on a full-time basis. A number of names have been thrown into the discussion at this point, including former show correspondent Jessica Williams’. The actress and comedian is now sharing some thoughts on possibly taking over for Noah. 

Jessica Williams has had an interesting path in the entertainment industry, as she started her acting career with the ‘00s Nick dramedy series Just for Kicks in 2006. In 2012, she joined The Daily Show, and her sharp and quirky brand of comedy earned her a significant amount of notoriety. On paper, she seems like an ideal candidate for the hosting position. However, she’s not aiming to return to her old stomping grounds at this point, and her reasoning makes sense: 

It’s true that her career has taken off in a big way over the past several years. Since leaving the comedy news show, she’s appeared on notable series like Girls and The Twilight Zone, while also being featured in an HBO special based on her 2 Dope Queens podcast. She also has film credits under her belt in Booksmart, two Fantastic Beasts sequels and Entergalactic. Her most recent production is Apple TV+’s Shrinking, which also stars Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. Despite her blossoming career, the actress is grateful for her stint on the long-running show. She further opened up to People about how the series impacted her professional trajectory:

Jessica Williams isn’t the only Daily Show alum who’s been asked about succeeding Trevor Noah, who’s back on the stand-up comedy circuit. Correspondent Roy Wood Jr. was asked about hosting and, at the time, he admitted that he wouldn’t simply turn his nose up if the opportunity presented itself. However, he also said that he needed space to assess what he wants from a professional standpoint at this stage. 

There are certainly a number of possibilities when considering the show’s next host but, if you’re like me, you just can’t shake the feeling that Jessica Williams would be a strong fit for the job. Heck, even Stephen Colbert has endorsed her at this point. But what it all comes down to is her happiness, and she appears to be quite content at the moment. So she’ll likely be waiting just like the rest of us to see how gets picked to take over for Trevor Noah.

On December 8, 2022, The Daily Show hit the end of another era, with host Trevor Noah, who replaced Jon Stewart, leaving the show after seven seasons. Noah will now be spending more time traveling for both pleasure and to do stand-up comedy, but as far as The Daily Show is concerned, it was announced a few days ahead of the comedian’s exit that numerous celebrities will be filling as guest hosts for the foreseeable future. Cut to the beginning of 2023, it’s been announced who will be kicking off this portion of the Comedy Central series’ run.

As had previously been shared, Leslie Jones will be The Daily Show’s first guest host post-Trevor Noah, with her time behind the desk lasting from January 17-19. After that, Wanda Sykes will take over from January 23-26, followed by D.L. Hughley from January 30-February 2, Chelsea Handler from February 6-9, and then Sarah Silverman from February 13-16. But these five celebrities are just the opening salvo of guest hosts, with others on the way including Hasan Minhaj, Al Franken, John Leguizamo, Kal Penn and Marlon Wayans, though no dates for them have been announced yet. Of these individuals, Minhaj is the only one with past Daily Show experience, having previously worked as a correspondent from 2014-2018.

So we now have mid-January-mid February covered on The Daily Show, and with those additional celebrities, that should take us around mid-late March. However, Chris McCarthy, president of Comedy Central and CEO of Paramount Media Networks, previously said that this guest host rotation would unfold until sometime in June. So along with current Daily Show correspondents and contributors, like Roy Wood Jr. and Dulcé Sloan, set to also get guest hosting turns, you can count on more celebrities being announced for that position in the coming months. As McCarthy put it, this period is being used to “really experiment and try different things.”

After that, The Daily Show will go on break until September, when it will “relaunch” with the new permanent host. That being said, Chris McCarthy and The Daily Show showrunner Jen Flanz have said that they’re exploring the possibility of transitioning the series to having multiple anchors/hosts, so it’s entirely possible that the show could end up looking a lot different come this fall. What’s important to remember at the moment, though, is that just because someone is guest hosing The Daily Show doesn’t mean you should consider this their audition to keep the job. This is simply an opportunity to try their hand at hosting this popular cable series in the middle of their other gigs and obligations.

Since the day it was announced that Trevor Noah would be leaving The Daily Show, the conversation about who will take over for him continues to grow. One person who has been rumored as the next host is Roy Wood Jr., who has been a correspondent on the Comedy Central show since 2015. Now, the comedian has now weighed in on his future with The Daily Show. 

When asked by THR if he would consider taking over as host of The Daily Show, Wood explained that he would certainly consider the offer. Wood elaborated on the idea of taking over after Noah, saying: 

He makes a good point, hosting The Daily Show is a big job, and I’d think it would be a massive honor, considering whoever takes over will follow in the footsteps of Noah and Jon Stewart. 

Wood also spoke about if he’d remain a correspondent on the show if a different person is tapped as the next host. He said: 

I do hope Wood sticks around the comedy show, be it as host or correspondent, because he is truly hilarious. Lucky for us we’ll at least get to see him for a little while longer since he’s part of an epic line-up of guest hosts. 

Comedy Central has lined up quite the list of comedians to guest host The Daily Show while they find Noah’s predecessor. This list includes current Daily Show employees Wood and Dulcé Sloan as well as former corresponded Hasan Minhaj. Other guest hosts include Saturday Night Live alums Leslie Jones and Al Franken, comedians D.L. Hughley, Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler and Wanda Sykes, along with actors Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn and John Leguizamo. 

According to Comedy Central, this rotation of guest hosts will air during the first half of the 2023 TV schedule, and then a full-time host will take over in September. 

As for Noah, he left The Daily Show on December 8 with plans to do some traveling and more stand-up. During 2023 he will head out on a global stand-up tour beginning January 20. He’ll visit 28 cities in the U.S. and then travel around the world. 

While Noah travels, we can look forward to seeing Wood a few more times on The Daily Show, and maybe one day, he’ll take over as the next host. 

In just two days, The Daily Show hits the end of an era, with Trevor Noah departing the satirical news program after hosting for seven years following Jon Stewart’s exit. Needless to say that ever since it was announced that Noah was leaving The Daily Show on December 8, there’s been the question of who will succeed him as the Comedy Central series’ permanent host. As it turns out, we’ll have to wait to a lot longer than expected to learn that answer, because for a good chunk of the next year, SNL vets and a swarm of other talent will be filling in as guest hosts.

Just like the transition period between Craig Ferguson and James Corden on The Late Late Show, or how Jeopardy! brought in numerous fresh faces to fill in following Alex Trebek’s passing, The Daily Show will be moving ahead with guest hosts to fill in for Trevor Noah in 2023, starting with Leslie Jones, who was a Saturday Night Live cast member from 2014 to 2019, on January 17. Here’s the full list of the announced participating talent (in no particular order other than Jones being first):

• Al Franken
• Sarah Silverman
• Chelsea Handler
• Wanda Sykes
• D.L. Hughley
• John Leguizamo
• Kal Penn
• Marlon Wayans
• Hasan Minhaj

Additionally, current Daily Show correspondents and contributors are set to be guest anchors on The Daily Show, with Roy Wood Jr. and Dulcé Sloan being specifically mentioned as in the mix (let’s also not forget that Hasan Minhaj is a former Daily Show correspondent). Executive producer and showrunner Jen Flanz told Vulture that while many, if not most, of these guest hosts will fill in for a week at a time, some may only appear for one night because of their busy schedules/previous commitments. 

Chris McCarthy, president of Comedy Central and CEO of Paramount Media Networks, added that this guest host rotation will unfold between the beginning of 2023 to around June and allow the show “to really experiment and try different things,” meaning that more talent will be announced in the coming weeks. Then The Daily Show will “relaunch in the fall,” i.e. the permanent host will take over in September 2023 and have “a full year to settle in before the 2024 presidential election.”

This isn’t the first time that The Daily Show has had guest host, with one of the more notable examples being when John Oliver sat behind the desk for a few weeks when Jon Stewart took time off to direct Rosewater. That said, Jen Flanz noted that as far as she can remember, “This is the first time we’re really having outsiders into our house.” Flanz also noted that anyone who’s coming in to guest host The Daily Show shouldn’t be seen as candidates to be the permanent host. This is simply an opportunity for various celebrities to pop in and try out hosting The Daily Show for a spell rather than make a full commitment to the gig.

In October, a few weeks after Trevor Noah revealed he was leaving The Daily Show (which apparently ruffled some feathers behind the scenes), the exiting host said he was excited to travel around the world again to do stand-up comedy, as well as do more producing work and spend more time “back home” in South Africa. By November, it was announced that Trevor will begin his Off the Record tour on January 20, which will see him visiting 28 cities in the United States, and international dates will be unveiled later. 

As far as picking a new permanent host for The Daily Show goes, Roy Wood Jr. has been rumored to be in contention for the job, and Chris McCarthy mentioned that these coming months will be a great time for them to “test out those ideas” on evolving the show. Speaking of the Daily Show format, McCarthy and Jen Flanz also said they’re exploring the possibility of transiting the series from the single-anchor format to having co-anchors or multiple co-hosts, i.e. along the lines of SNL’s “Weekend Update” or Good Morning America, but nothing has been decided yet.

For now, you have three more nights to enjoy Trevor Noah behind the desk at The Daily Show. After December 8, the series won’t return until Leslie Jones kicks off the guest hosting run in mid-January. As the 2023 Oscar race starts to heat up, the discourse surrounding last year’s ceremony and the slap continue to be a major point of discussion, especially with Will Smith promoting his upcoming film on the 2023 film schedule Emancipation. Over the last few days, the actor has started talking more about what happened that night. He has also discussed how he feels about it now, and told a story about an emotional interaction he had with his 9-year-old nephew after the ceremony. 

While talking with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show Smith opened up about what happened after he slapped Chris Rock. Noah explained his take on the situation, and then Smith opened up about his own reaction at the moment, and how those close to him, like is young nephew, responded to it too, saying: 

Smith then pulled a tissue out of his pocket, and continued saying “it was a mess.” Clearly, the actor was impacted not only by his actions, but also by the emotional response from his young nephew who had watched the moment on TV. 

As for the rest of Smith's family, his kids Willow and Jaden Smith have not said much, but did seem to respond to the situation on social media.  Willow open up a bit recently though, saying she sees her "whole family as being human." 

Jada Pinkett Smith also spoke out about the slap, saying she hopes both her husband and Chris Rock have "an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile." 

The discourse surrounding Smith slapping Rock has gone on all year. With Emancipation coming out soon, there has been a lot of discussion about if the film will get nominated, and how the slap will impact the film's odds coming into the awards season. Based on Academy Members' thoughts on Smith’s actions and Emancipation, it’s unclear if the film will be represented at the Academy Awards. 

When it comes to the film getting nominated, Smith shared his thoughts on the criticism that Emancipation is coming out too soon. He explained to ReelBlend co-host Jake Hamilton that: 

Antoine Fuqua has also weighed in on how Emancipation will be received following the slap. He said that the movie “is bigger than that moment.” He also said he hopes people see the film and “be swept away” by Smith’s performance and “all the real hard work that the whole crew did.” 

The King Richard actor went on to tell Noah about what happened at the Oscars, saying it “was a horrific night.” He said there were “many nuances and complexities,” but in the end, he “just lost it.” Smith also talked about how you never know what someone is going through at a given moment and he “was going through something that night.” However, he also said “not that it justifies my behavior at all.” 

Smith said the fact that the people who worked on Emancipation might not get recognized for their work is “killing me dead.” Noah said no one deserves to be defined by one moment. 

In the last few days, Smith has opened up about the slap, and how bad it was. He’s also been open about how much he dislikes the fact that his actions could impact his latest film's chances during the upcoming awards season. This story about his nephew also provides a glimpse into how his family was impacted by the moment too. 

While the Academy Awards took place back in March, the discourse surrounding Hollywood’s biggest night hasn’t slowed down much. This is due to Will Smith breaking the internet by slapping Chris Rock live on television, with both the celebs and the public still processing that event. The conversation surrounding The Slap has picked up recently, thanks to the upcoming release of Smith’s new drama Emancipation. And now the King Richard actor has opened up about what really happened the night of the Oscars Slap, saying “I’ve always wanted to be Superman.”

The upcoming release of Antoine Fuqua’s Emancipation will mark Will Smith’s first new movie since The Slap. The highly anticipated drama also has the potential to win big during Awards Season, which no doubt feels like a full circle moment for the 54 year-old actor/producer. Smith recently appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, where he spoke candidly about the infamous incident at the Oscars with Chris Rock. He opened up about where his head was at the time, saying:

Some points were made. While being invited to the Academy Awards as a Best Actor nominee seems like a dream for fans, the reality of it is quite different for A-listers like Will Smith who have attended multiple times. And despite the honor he was receiving for his work on King Richard, he admits that he was having some private struggles, which seemingly resulted in his violent outburst against Chris Rock. 

Will Smith’s comments to Trevor Noah help to humanize the A-lister, whose status as a celebrity might make him otherwise unapproachable for the public. But despite his wild success and decades as a movie star, he’s got issues just like you and me. And that includes trauma, that was seemingly triggered during last year’s Oscars. He explained how his past factored into his decision to walk on stage and confront Chris Rock, saying:

The violence erupted at last year’s Oscars after Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s appearance while presenting. He was seemingly unaware of her public battle with alopecia, and the crack about her hair triggered a strong reaction from husband Will Smith. After slapping Rock, he returned to his seat and screamed at the comic to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth (plus a few expletives in there for good measure).

In the months since the event he dropped out of the Academy, was banned from the event for a decade, and largely stepped out of the public eye. But he’s since returned, partly to promote the upcoming release of Emancipation. Later in his conversation with Trevor Noah, he equated his actions with a need to be a hero like Superman. As he put it,

Part of what made The Slap such a viral event is that the moment of violence came from such a universally beloved figure like Will Smith. But in the end all celebrities are just humans, and they’re capable of making mistakes. Smith’s biggest misstep just happened to be on national television, and at a prestigious event full of his peers.

It should be interesting to see how Emancipation ultimately performs, and if moviegoers will be able to separate Will Smith and his performance from The Slap. As previously mentioned, this is his first post-Oscars movie release. Although he seems to think the powerful work done on the movie will overpower any naysayers experiencing cognitive dissonance.

It was recently announced that Trevor Noah will be exiting The Daily Show after hosting the Comedy Central series for seven years. With his final Daily Show appearance set to air on December 8, the comedian already has plans for the future, and he’s doing some traveling.

Trevor Noah will be taking his comedy act global in 2023, according to THR. Just over a month after he leaves The Daily Show, Noah will embark on his Off the Record Tour. Beginning January 20, he will visit 28 cities in the United States, with international dates set to be announced later. 

When Noah announced his exit on The Daily Show, he expressed his desire to return to the road, so it’s not so surprising that he’s touring not long after signing off. The tour will start in Atlanta for a single January date before picking up again in February for Louisville. He will take another break again before continuing in St. Louis at the beginning of March, with sporadic dates throughout the year across the country.

Unlike his regular hours on The Daily Show, this comedy tour will allow him to spread his performances out throughout his schedule. Although it’s not known how long the tour will go for, this should keep him occupied for quite some time.

Meanwhile, as Trevor Noah looks to the future beyond The Daily Show, there is still a question of who will replace him as host. Former Daily Show host Stephen Colbert weighed in on the replacement, saying that Jon Stewart should return to the chair or possibly Roy Wood Jr., who is not only a Comedy Central correspondent but is also rumored to be in the running to replace Noah. 

While the Comedy Central series has had a few hosts since it's been on the air, The Daily Show may be doing something unusual following Trevor Noah’s exit. The show will go on hiatus until January 17, 2023, and could see rotating hosts, similar to what Jeopardy! in the wake of longtime host Alex Trebek's death. Nothing yet is set in stone as to who could possibly replace Noah, but whatever happens next for the show, the comedian is heading out on tour.

Stephen Colbert is basically Comedy Central royalty. The Late Show host had a memorable run on The Daily Show as a correspondent before headlining his own show, The Colbert Report, from 2005 to 2014. He left the successful satire program to take over for David Letterman at CBS, yet he clearly has fond memories of his long tenure at the network. Upon the recent news that Trevor Noah is to leave TDS, Colbert was asked to comment on what the future holds for the satirical news program, and he gave an honest response.

During an interview with Charlamagne Tha God on his show, Hell of a Week, Stephen Colbert reminisced about his time on The Daily Show, so it was only natural that the conversation turned to who he thinks would be best to succeed Trevor Noah. While he coyly expressed concern about the future for the show, he remarked:

Jon Stewart previously hosted The Daily Show and held that post while Colbert acted as a correspondent. He was replaced by Noah in 2014 and later returned to TV last year in The Problem with Jon Stewart, which currently available for AppleTV+ subscribers. Roy Wood Jr. is currently a correspondent on the Comedy Central news program show and has been a rumored frontrunner for Noah’s position. Both options would certainly lead to fan support, and would be great “gets” for the network. During Colbert's chat with Charlamagne tha God, one audience member shouted that a black woman would also be a great pick to be the next host of the network mainstay, to which the talk show host agreed and made another suggestion:

Jessica Williams also acted as a Daily Show correspondent from 2012 to 2016 and left to pursue other projects. She had a show on HBO called 2 Dope Queens, which ran for two seasons and later joined the Fantastic Beasts franchise -- the Harry Potter prequel trilogy. She is incredibly talented, and the Beasts series is rumored to be coming to a close -- so Williams may be available. It would be great to have a female Daily Show host, and Williams would definitely be a great presence in the late-night TV space. 

Even if program brings back Jon Stewart, or hires an incredibly capable familiar face like Jessica Williams or Roy Wood Jr., the recent "Late Night" departures and transitions clearly signal that changes are happening in the talk show world. Jimmy Kimmel recently expressed concern over his own future at ABC, and Conan O’Brian’s planned transition to streaming and podcasting is a possible indicator of where the medium is going. However, Colbert still sits comfortably behind the late night desk. We'll have to wait and see what lies ahead for the format as well as Comedy Central's flagship show as it searches for its next host.

Seven years ago, Jon Stewart left The Daily Show and selected Trevor Noah, who had appeared on the Comedy Central series a few times, as his successor. Now the time has come for Trevor to depart The Daily Show, with the big news being announced at the end of September. So naturally many people are wondering who will become the satirical news program’s new host, and there may be an unusual plan in the works to fill the void left by Noah. 

Trevor Noah will make his Daily Show appearance on Thursday, December 8, and the series will go on hiatus until Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Upon its return, three sources who spoke to Variety claimed that Comedy Central is thinking about “utilizing a rotating array of hosts” for the The Daily Show. This is just one of the options that’s currently under consideration, and it’s unclear when plans will be finalized one way or the other.

Going through multiple hosts would certainly be a big way to deliver the “reinvention” that’s been promised for The Daily Show following Trevor Noah’s exit. Sure, there have been instances where guest hosts have filled in on a temporary basis, such as when John Oliver sat behind the desk when Jon Stewart was shooting Rosewater, but that’s a different beast from a a handful of people filling a position that’s otherwise unoccupied. The Late Late Show did something similar in the transition periods between Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson, and then in the few months between Ferguson’s departure and James Corden’s arrival (although in that latter case, Corden was already slated to take over). 

This potential move for The Daily Show also calls to mind what’s being done with Jeopardy! these days, as Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik are serving as rotating hosts of the main show, and Bialik additionally hosts primetime specials and spinoffs. However, in The Daily Show’s case, it’s unclear if it would only rotate through hosts on a temporary basis like what The Late Late Show has done (and may be doing again since James Corden is leaving the CBS program in summer 2023), or if this is meant to be a permanent move, at least for the near future.

Either way, as already mentioned, don’t count on The Daily Show rotating through hosts as being a done deal just yet. It’s also been reported that Roy Wood Jr. is being considered for the job after being a correspondent since Trevor Noah started hosting in 2015. One thing that has become clear is Noah’s departure reportedly ruffled some feathers behind the scenes, resulting in the Comedy Central brass having to scramble to figure out the next move rather than being a lengthy period to prepare for a changing of the guard.

As for Trevor Noah, once he’s done with The Daily Show, he intends to perform more stand-up comedy around the world and spend more time with his family in South Africa. We’ll be sure to let you know when a concrete hosting replacement plan for The Daily Show is announced, but until then, keep track of the rest of this year’s programming with our 2022 TV schedule. 

Trevor Noah shocked a lot of people just a few weeks ago when he announced that he’d be stepping down as host of The Daily Show after seven years. And in the aftermath of him breaking the big news, people probably have a number of questions. For starters, who’s going to replace him as the host of the long-running talk show? Aside from the uncertainties directly involving the series, there’s also the matter of what lies ahead for Noah. The political pundit has now shed some light on what he plans to do once his tenure ends.

Trevor Noah revealed his departure during The Daily Show’s September 29th episode. During the monologue, the host expressed gratitude for having been able to hold the position for as long as he has and also reflected on the many things he’d experienced throughout his stint. At the time, Noah indicated that he was eager to try some new things once his time on the show was done. He expanded on that during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Noah started off by saying that he wants to do “everything,” before getting more specific about his plans: 

It sounds like the 38-year-old comedian has already formed a number of goals for the future. While his time on the Comedy Central chat show wasn’t as long as his predecessors’, one can understand why he’d be ready to step away. As he told Jimmy Fallon, “the show is hard,” as it takes a lot of work and collaboration to get a program like his ready for air. Overall, it sounds like the outgoing host is eager for his next chapter and is leaving of his own accord. (That latter point seemingly counters what Megyn Kelly said about his exit.)

Trevor Noah’s big news purportedly ruffled some feathers behind the scenes, however. Per a report, only a few crew members knew that Noah was going to exit the show and announce it during a taping. And allegedly, he revealed his exit to a group of people in the studio audience before even discussing the matter with a number of his co-workers. Noah’s comments about his future plans do line up with the recent report, though, as it was said that the star was eager to get back to doing stand-up.

All the while, Comedy Central has yet to reveal who’s going to take over for the pundit once he steps down. But rumors suggest that The Daily Show has one potential candidate, and he’s already with the program. Roy Wood Jr., who’s served as a correspondent on the series for the past seven years, is allegedly a frontrunner for the job. While this is far from confirmed, Wood would be a logical choice. His hiring would make sense, as he's definitely talented. Plus, his hiring would help to maintain a sense of continuity, from a creative standpoint.

Trevor Noah’s final episode will air on Thursday, December 8, so fans still have some time before the show’s new era kicks off. Noah seems pumped to do some more exciting things with his crew before he signs off and, hopefully, that’s an indication that he’ll close things out on a high note.

Comedy Central is approaching the end of an era. Last month, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah announced that he’d be exiting the series after seven years. Well, now we finally know when his final appearance will be, but that’s just a portion of the big Daily Show-related news that’s come out.

First things first, Comedy Central announced today that Trevor Noah will leave The Daily Show on Thursday, December 8. Ahead of his departure, the satirical news program will look back on Noah’s greatest moments from his run, which kicked off in 2015 when he was selected to take over hosting duties from Jon Stewart. Chris McCarthy, President & CEO, Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios, said the following about Noah’s tenure on The Daily Show:

After Trevor Noah bids farewell to The Daily Show, the series won’t return until Tuesday, January 17, 2023, and it was teased that the Emmy-winning franchise will go through “reinvention” during that break period. What exactly that means is unclear, but there are “additional details forthcoming.” Here’s what Noah said about working with Chris McCarthy:

So much like how Trevor Noah’s version of The Daily Show distinguished itself in some major ways from what Jon Stewart did during his 16-year run, it sounds like steps are being taken to make the new era of The Daily Show stands out from Noah’s time behind the desk. Before we discover what those differences are though, we’ll likely learn who will be The Daily Show’s new host. Correspondent Roy Wood Jr. reportedly is being considered for the position, which would make sense considering he joined The Daily Show when Noah began hosting. That said, there’s still the possibility that one of the other correspondents or even someone who’s not affiliated with The Daily Show right now could be tapped to host, so we’ll just have to wait and see how this unfolds.

As for why Trevor Noah decided to leave The Daily Show, he explained it’s because he became more interested in trying new things. Noah has also said he doesn’t intend to leave the public eye, so whatever his next professional endeavors are, we’ll surely be hearing about them. Noah’s exit is just one of several major late-night television shakeups to happen this year. James Corden announced that he’s leaving The Late Late Show in summer 2023, and Samantha Bee’s TBS show Full Frontal was canceled after seven seasons.

There have been lots of similarities between the 2022 TV schedule staple House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, it’s watched by millions, it’s full of epic action and intense story, there are various members of the Targaryen family tree to keep track of, and it has some very dark episodes, literally. Also, much like when GOT was on, fans are loud online whenever they have a complaint, and when those complaints get loud enough the discussion makes it on late-night TV shows. This time, it has to do with the lighting in the latest episode, and both fans of HOTD and The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah have some thoughts about the decision to dim the lights on the episode. 

For a bit of background, last week’s episode took place during the night. While lots of shows and movies have stories take place at night, the spinoff had some particular problems and they've been commented on widely across the Internet. Much like the cinematographer on The Long Night episode of GOT, HBO has defended the creative decision to make the episode dark. 

With all this said, here is what Trevor Noah and the fans have to say about it all. 

Trevor Noah Responds To The Dark House Of The Dragon Episode  

Over at The Daily Show, Trevor Noah addressed the darkness during his headline section of the show. He started his bit by saying: 

During the bit, Noah made jokes about the darkness and referenced the dark episodes of GOT. He also did a little skit reenacting the scene as if it was so dark the actors couldn’t tell who they were acting with. Noah also explained:

He’s right it was a super dark episode of HOTD, I’m happy I watched it late at night so I could see most of it, but I had to squint a little. Much like me, other fans had to squint too, and they made sure to let HBO about their struggles on Twitter. 

Fans Are Not Thrilled About House Of The Dragon’s Choice To Make The Lighting So Dark

The fans of HOTD are loud. Every week the discourse surrounding the show is dense and usually hilarious. Over the show’s Season 1 run we’ve seen fans roast Ser Criston Cole, and last week they had some thoughts about a major change from the books. Every so often, fans have a technical gripe though, like this week.

For example, this viewer tweeted their complaint at HBO, who responded to them, check it out: 

Another viewer decided to take screenshots to show just how many times the show was too dark to see what was going on. 

Other viewers quickly pointed out the difference between a shot of Rhaenyra and Daemon that was light in the press photos when the show first started, and the same shot in the most recent episode that was dark. 

Then there are the fans who were having fun with the situation. For example, this viewer explained their viewing experience by way of a Zendaya photo. 

Another viewer pulled a hilarious meme from Community, and posted this gem: 

Whether viewers were actually mad or just wanted to post a meme, this lighting debacle has been a big point of discussion this week. I’m curious to see if Episode 8 will be a bit lighter, literally, I doubt it will be figuratively. There’s a major change coming to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, as host Trevor Noah announced that he plans to leave his post after seven years on the air. Noah addressed his exit during a recent episode of the show and, since then, both fans and fellow stars alike have shared reactions to the news. Media personality Megyn Kelly is one of the latest to lay out her thoughts on the development, and she didn’t mince words. In fact, she fired a few shots at Noah and said, among other things, that he’s a “ratings killer.” 

When Trevor Noah made his announcement nearly a week ago, he expressed gratitude for having been able to host The Daily Show for the past several years. He explained, however, that the events of the past few years have given him some to think about his future and as a result, he’s ready to try some new things. But Megyn Kelly suggests that Noah’s decision to step away was not his own. She alleges that the reason for the shift is due to his performance as host, which she believes has been poor:

But as the podcaster shares her thoughts on Trevor Noah’s impending exit, reports suggest that his decision ruffled some feathers behind the scenes. It’s rumored that few people on staff actually knew about Noah’s choice before he announced it. It's even been said that he told people in the studio audience about it before he even let a number of his colleagues know. Noah was thought to have renewed his deal with Comedy Central earlier this year but, as of late, he’s apparently been eager to work more stand-up comedy gigs.

So one major question remains: Who’s going to become the new host of The Daily Show? Well, the latest reports suggest that there’s already a candidate in mind, show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. The veteran actor and comedian could be a solid host for the show, which he’s been a part of for the last seven years. Despite this rumor though, Comedy Central has remained mum regarding plans for the future. 

More immediately, Trevor Noah has not announced a timetable for his departure, but chances are he’ll likely look to close things out on a high note. It’s likely that further assessments of his stint as host will arrive when he’s finally anchored his last show. Whether or not Megyn Kelly chooses to share additional thoughts on his tenure remains to be seen.

Kanye West staged a Yeezy show and made headlines earlier this week for wearing a White Lives Matter t-shirt that also featured the Pope’s face (and commenting on the Kim Kardashian robbery situation and more). Vogue fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson was critical of the look, and it spurred Ye to go to social media to express a slew of thoughts on the matter. The drama blew up and even the likes of Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid have gotten involved. But that hasn’t stopped Ye from writing on the matter.

What Kanye West Initially Said About Gabriella Karefa-Johnson

After headlines about the t-shirts ran around, the fashion creator was seemingly not super pumped about those being critical of his big moment (one which also included crystal-covered flip flops). This included a critique from the aforementioned Karefa-Johnson. She did not think a White Lives Matter shirt was the bees knees and he retaliated by releasing now-deleted posts  taking aim at the critic. For example, one of those shared a photo of the notable fashion editor seemingly mocking her own taste in fashion that came with the comment: 

Doubling down on the matter was not particularly well-received and subsequently, a slew of celebrities spoke out in the Vogue editor’s defense. 

Gigi Hadid And Hailey Bieber's Response To Ye

Initially, Gigi Hadid spoke out in a longer and more eloquent post on her Instagram Stories to share her stance on why she is speaking out following the fashion show. 

She went on to write that Ye is being “immature” and a”bully” before telling the rapper and fasion mogul “enough.” She also wrote:

Justin Bieber's wife Hailey Bieber also commented on Instagram regarding the matter. She defended GKJ without calling out the rapper in her own post, saying the fashion editor is "the most chic" (though that in itself is in opposition to what Ye seemed to be implying.)

But the story didn't end there.

Not So Fast, Kanye West Says The Two Touched Base

West’s initial response to the t-shirt critique went viral online, with both regular folks and many celebrities seeing his posts. The rapper also defended himself, shared his feelings and said he met “with Gabrielle at 5 p.m today for two hours.” (Note: that's a typo from the star and not CinemaBlend.)

They allegedly also later went to dinner together. He then brought up this controversy related to the Trevor Noah back-and-forth from a couple of months ago. 

The Trevor Noah comment comes just a couple of months after Ye also had beef with The Daily Show Host. He’d spoke out about feeling Kanye was harassing Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson during a segment on the Comedy Central series he will soon be stepping down from. It seems the rapper still has feelings about what happened on The Daily Show despite Noah later voicing support and saying his critique came from care and not disdain. In the case of Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, it seems he thinks it may be water under the bridge. 

It didn’t end there though. Both Gigi Hadid and other celebs like  Hailey Bieber continued to defend the fashion editor with a post. After Kanye West wrote his post to “Gab” and “Gabrielle” the two clapped back with a shared post that noted her name is actually Gabriella Karefa-Johnson. Gabriella, not Gabrielle. 

Meanwhile GKJ Is Staying Out Of The Fray

Karefa-Johnson has not confirmed or denied meeting with Kanye West after Monday’s fashion show and the subsequent story that rolled around the Internet, but she has commented about her feelings. She even worked in a Mortal Kombat reference into her lengthy response post. Though it’s worth noting she more touched on belonging to the fashion community and feeling “so blessed” for the support. So, there you have it, it's unclear what, if anything will happen next, but I'd put money on more posts being deleted from Kanye West's Instagram in the near future. 

There's been another shake-up in the late-night TV department, as Trevor Noah announced his departure from The Daily Show this past week. Noah started hosting the show seven years ago after former host Jon Stewart exited Comedy Central's satirical news program. Noah's hiring may have been a surprise to many, but he's since become a late-night staple, covering political and pop culture topics (such as the racist Little Mermaid backlash). Noah's departure definitely comes as a bit of a shock too but, per a new report, those who were especially taken aback by the news were his colleagues at the show.

Trevor Noah’s announcement was kept pretty hush hush, and it's honestly surprising that a news outlet didn't break the news before the host could reveal it himself. While the latter is what ultimately ended up happening, it seems like Noah’s decision to break the news on air came out of left field, as many key people who worked on the show were apparently not in the know. According to Deadline, the announcement of Noah's departure wasn't exactly organized like James Cordon’s well-managed exit from The Late Late Show, which was confirmed earlier this year. Cordon has a planned date for his last show, yet details regarding Noah’s departure remain unclear. The outlet also claims that the number of people aware of Noah's exit was evidently small. 

Interestingly enough, the host reportedly revealed his exit to a number of people in the studio audience before breaking the news to many of his co-workers. Apparently though, the TV personality thought it was "imperative" that he tell show attendees, as he wanted them to hear the news from him and not another source.

Still, from an organizational standpoint, this entire situation might put a strain on the producers, who may have wanted a clear timetable to start making plans for Trevor Noah’s potential successor. Another reason all of this may have been surprising is that it had reportedly been indicated that Noah was going to stay with the show for at least another year. More specifically, Noah was assumed to have renewed his deal with Comedy Central earlier this year.

One really has to wonder how the staff and Comedy Central as a whole will choose to proceed with the host's departure and his eventual replacement, who will likely have their own way of doing things. The show changed following Jon Stewart’s departure in order to fit his successor's comedic sensibilities. So needless to say, a major overhaul could be on the horizon. At this point, the network hasn't given any indication as to who might take over, but reports suggest that names are already being circled for the coveted Daily Show role.

After 7 years on The Daily Show, Trevor Noah announced he would be stepping down as host and leaving the program. Noah took over for Jon Stewart, who had hosted the show for 16 years before departing. This leaves the host’s chair open for someone new, and apparently Comedy Central might already have a candidate in mind. 

Noah was promoted to host after being a correspondent on The Daily Show. According to TMZ we could see something like this happen again. Sources told the site that current correspondent Roy Wood Jr. is in the running to take over Noah’s seat. 

Wood joined The Daily Show in 2015, which was the same year Noah took over after Stewart. Over the last 7 years, fans have grown to love him and he’s one of the show’s leading correspondents. The article said Comedy Central executives see Wood as a “natural fit” for host. Doing this would also follow the precedent of Noah's promotion by choosing a host out of the current correspondents rather than hiring someone new. 

The article also explained that Wood’s contract is set for renewal soon. He has also been in demand as a stand-up comedian, and he has appeared in movies like “Confess, Fletch.” 

It was also mentioned in the article that their sources said the network executives let Wood know they want to meet with him about contract renewal. However, the process of finding Noah’s successor is just getting started and no decisions have been made. The article also mentioned the possibility of choosing a woman to take over Noah’s position. 

If the show were to promote a current correspondent they would be choosing from comedians like Wood, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan. No matter what, any of these correspondents would likely make a good host, especially looking back at The Daily Show’s history of correspondents turned talk show hosts. 

The two most prominent examples of this are Stephen Colbert and John Oliver. 

Colbert hosted The Colbert Report on Comedy Central for a while after leaving The Daily Show. He was then dubbed David Letterman’s successor, and moved over to CBS to host The Late Show, where he has now been for almost about 8 years. He’s also maintained a great relationship with his former boss, as Jon Stewart show’s up on Colbert’s show from time to time. 

Meanwhile, John Oliver left The Daily Show to start Last Week Tonight with John Oliver at HBO. Since starting the hit show in 2014, Last Week Tonight has become wildly popular. It has also dominated the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category at the Emmys since 2016, which includes its name on the 2022 list of Emmy winners. 

Noah’s announcement adds to the list of hosts leaving late-night this year. James Cordon announced he would be leaving the Late, Late Show after 8 years. On top of that, Daily Show alum Samantha Bee’s show Full Frontal got canceled after seven seasons. With all this change, it’s safe to say the late-night landscape will look very different soon. 

I see The Daily Show as one of the iconic shows of late-night, and I’d imagine they will pick from their current crop of correspondents for their next host. If that host ends up being Wood, I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job. It's the end of an era for yet another big television host. Trevor Noah, the lead anchor of The Daily Show, is hanging it up after seven years in the job. Noah has filled the shoes of prior host Jon Stewart quite well for the better part of a decade, and the time is now coming for someone to step in for him.

A report from Deadline mentioned that Trevor Noah was working with Comedy Central on trying to work through the demanding schedule of The Daily Show. Noah assured audiences in attendance that he won't be leaving the public eye, but he's become more interested as of late in branching out to try different things than what he's doing now. 

The shock of Trevor Noah's exit is sudden, though Noah noted he isn't leaving immediately. The Daily Show host confirmed they're still trying to figure out how to work on his exit and who will succeed him. The latter will be a big question, as Comedy Central will likely look to recruit top talent to helm its celebrated news program. 

2022 is quickly becoming the year when hosts of staple late-night television are leaving. James Corden left The Late Late Show after eight years with the gig, and Samantha Bee lost her series Full Frontal after seven seasons. The late-night space is quickly losing a lot of notable names, which will leave some newcomers to fend off current veterans like Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert. 

Just to put this all in perspective, Trevor Noah joined The Daily Show not too long after Jimmy Fallon took over The Tonight Show, and shortly before Stephen Colbert started hosting The Late Show. He's certainly had some time to make the show his own in that span and prove any initial doubters who thought he couldn't fill the hole left behind by Jon Stewart (who has since moved onto other streaming endeavors). No doubt a similar pressure will be placed upon his successor, and it will be interesting to see who Comedy Central vets for the job. 

That's assuming The Daily Show will continue after Trevor Noah, though after some chatter in 2020, it doesn't appear the show is going anywhere. Noah didn't seem to indicate that in his message, so any fan thinking this is curtains for the comedy news show just needs to relax and wait for the next chapter.

Now would be a great time to jump back in on watching to see Trevor Noah's final episodes, and maybe look for some clue about who will take his place. This could be a long wait, though, so maybe just browse the 2022 TV schedule in the meantime and sit tight for more details. 

The casting of Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of the classic film The Little Mermaid resulted in lead star Halle Bailey receiving a fair amount of racist backlash. (Though for every hater, there seems to be a loving fan thrilled with her promising casting.) After the trailer showcased Bailey singing one of the classic film's songs in spectacular fashion, there are still some OG Little Mermaid fans that are not happy that Bailey's race does not align with the animated Ariel. Trevor Noah, as he does, has now reacted to this racist backlash and didn't hold back his thoughts.

One big critique of Halle Bailey’s casting is that she doesn’t resemble the animated version of Ariel, meaning she isn’t the pale-skinned or have the bright-colored red hair that people are used to seeing. In a segment on The Daily Show, Trevor Noah poked fun at this perceived problem, saying:

Trevor Noah sees through the commentary on Halle Bailey not looking like the original Ariel. In his estimation, those sentiments are a way to say that she isn’t preferred in the role because of her skin color. Well, the truth is that the Chloe x Halle alum has been a source of joy and inspiration for Black girls, as seen in viral TikToks. This is understandable, as many have surely grown up mostly seeing who white actors and characters in Disney and other areas in the entertainment industry. She is a prime example of why representation matters in kid-aimed productions.

While continuing to make his jokes, and very serious points, Trevor Noah pointed out the fictional nature of The Little Mermaid and that, well, Halle Bailey is playing a mermaid. The comedic news host then took the joke a step further by bringing in a common racist stereotype of Black family dynamics in relation to Finding Nemo, which pinpoints how ridiculous critiques of Bailey’s casting really are. Here it is in Noah’s own words:

If viewers weren’t already aware of how openly ridiculous he is being in his joke, he went on to straight up tell the naysayers to “stop being ridiculous.” From there, he discussed his hopes for the film's release, which will happen in the spring of 2023. Here is what he says, exactly:

Despite the negative reactions to Halle Bailey’s version of Ariel, there are plenty of fans who are totally for her portrayal. They're also making not of Bailey's arguably superior singing abilities. In short, these fans can’t wait to see Bailey take on the whole film, and the 2023 movie release will surely get some buzz when it opens on May 26 next year. With big name media names like Trevor Noah calling out the backlash and fans showing their immense support, it looks like even those negative comments may not succeed in bringing down Bailey’s The Little Mermaid.

After Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars several months ago, the Internet was ablaze with commentators sharing their thoughts on the matter. A significant number of celebrities weighed in on the subject as well. Many people chastised Smith for his actions, while some others came to his defense. One of the many stars to speak out in the aftermath was comedian and political pundit Trevor Noah, who approached the situation with a bit of humor. But now, months later, the TV personality has some serious thoughts about the backlash that Smith (who’s apologized as of late) has received. 

Back in April, Trevor Noah specifically spoke about Will Smith being punished by the Academy with a decade-long ban. Noah joked that Smith’s situation could be a blessing in disguise, as he doesn’t have to get dressed up, go to the Oscars and “sit through a bunch of boring awards that he doesn’t care about.” The Daily Show host even quipped that he wishes that he himself could be banned from the Emmys so that he doesn’t have to “pretend to be happy” when he loses to colleagues like John Oliver. 

The comic took a more serious approach when discussing the A-list actor this time around, though. During a lengthy conversation on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, the South Africa-born talent questioned how much of the public could quickly tear down the King Richard star after a single moment:

Trevor Noah’s contention seems to be that a person who’s had a slip-up – after a generally positive career – should at least receive the benefit of the doubt. He’d prefer to see said person shown some form of grace as opposed to being discarded as a “trash human being.” This notion feeds into a larger conversation about cancel culture, one that’s persisted for several years now. Noah went on to assert that in today’s society, one can only fall into two different categories:

Other stars were incredibly vocal when discussing the slap. Following this year’s Oscars, Jim Carrey stated that he was “sickened” by the fact that Smith received a standing ovation when he accepted his Best Actor prize later that night. Carrey also said that he would’ve sued the actor for $200 million had he been the one slapped. Comedians have been particularly vocal about the incident, with Steve Harvey saying that he “lost a lot of respect for [Smith].” Zoë Kravitz also called out Smith shortly after the show as well though, recently, Kravitz explained that wishes she’d have handled things differently.

Amid all of the backlash, there are some stars who’ve been in the Bright alum’s corner, though. Marlon Wayans advised Will Smith to attend therapy sessions while also referring to the star as “Black excellence.” Fresh Prince alum Tatyana Ali also spoke out, noting that while Chris Rock didn’t deserve to be hit, she believes Smith has “a big heart.” While noting the ripple effects of the slap, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said that he’s “rooting” for Smith amid the situation. 

It’s probably fair to say that this is a situation that’s sure to be discussed for years to come. But at present, it seems that stars like Trevor Noah will continue to stand firmly by their respective points of view.

Kanye West isn’t exactly unfamiliar to controversy, but it’s come to a head in more recent months. Namely, some of the rapper’s behavior on social media was taken as “concerning” back in March, prompting both Instagram to temporarily suspend his account and the 2022 Grammys to revoke West's then-scheduled performance. What is more is that his new Yeezy Gap line, lately presented in stores in quote-unquote “trash bags,” resulted in a major backlash as spectators perceived it as insulting to the homeless community that Ye proclaimed to be inspired by. Alas, he has gotten some support amidst it all from a familiar source: Trevor Noah.

Truth be told, the Daily Show alum had been on the receiving end of the provocative star’s outspoken-ness around the time of the whole Instagram drama. Notably, Kanye West had directed a racial slur at the South African-born Trevor Noah on the platform, not long after the latter had spoken out on Comedy Central about his treatment toward ex-wife Kim Kardashian. However, Noah reacted to the situation by trying to appeal to his better nature, per TMZ. Now, months after the fact, while West continues to face public ire for his actions, the talk show host explained on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast why his philosophy of “counsel not cancel” is appropriate here, saying:

The host went on to say that the world at large has become too, perhaps, complacent in bashing perceived “irredeemable characters” like Kanye West, without first reaching out with compassion. In his view, even Ye deserves at least an “opportunity at redemption.” Although, the comedian admits that it can sometimes be a tricky thing to navigate:

Back in 2020, when they were still technically married, Kim Kardashian herself had tried to advocate for understanding of Kanye West and his struggles with bipolar disorder. Just prior to, he had been making several controversial statements about the mother of his four kids and culture as a whole while on his failed presidential campaign trail. Kardashian talked then about the necessity of “giving grace” and how the disorder didn’t negate West’s “creative ideas” and his “genius.”

Unfortunately, though, their relationship wouldn’t survive much longer, with the future Hulu star filing for divorce in February of 2021. Later on, she had started dating SNL alum Pete Davidson, and both of them were also on the receiving ends of the rapper’s social media tirades earlier this year. Kim Kardashian was seemingly at her wits end about their online beef, as she took to hitting back at some of Ye's more personal claims.

Eventually, after the suspension and other consequences, the 21-time Grammy winner took a hiatus from public life to reportedly “work” on himself. But it apparently wasn’t meant to be. Kim K and Pete Davidson broke up this month, which resulted in Kanye West returning to Instagram with a fresh dig at the now-single comedian. Kim and her family’s new reality series, The Kardashians, is expected to cover the whole issue in more detail in the upcoming second season streaming on September 22 for Hulu subscribers. But for now, reports only indicate that Kardashian is not happy about the breakup commentary.

For his part, the 45-year-old mind behind the recent Donda albums sees his bold choices as just that, bold. About the Yeezy Gap trash bag debacle, Kanye West made a rare official statement on his own behalf, saying that he refused to apologize for his creativity. In fact, he called himself an “innovator” in the sphere of design and fashion.

So, all in all, Trevor Noah might not have given up on Kanye West just yet. Certainly, Kanye West hasn’t given up on Kanye West, either. But what about everyone else?

The 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast host’s brand of observational humor is refreshing in how it trades brutal honesty for off-beat absurdity that often veers on the edge of uncomfortable relatability.

As one of the most exciting names in comedy today, it makes sense that John Mulaney would eventually find himself performing at a prestigious venue like New York’s Radio City Music Hall, but that does not stop him from commenting on the very absurdity of that concept in his Emmy-winning Netflix stand-up comedy special, Kid Gorgeous. The former SNL writer’s classically-trained stand-up style, complemented by his formal wardrobe and choice to carry a wire-attached mic, adds a refreshing, old-fashioned energy to the topics he dares to dissect with his razor-sharp wit in a special that demands repeat viewings.

Dave Chappelle: The Age Of Spin (2017)

Regardless of how you may feel about his more recent Netflix specials, you have to admit that Dave Chappelle’s intelligent observation, fearless expression, and effortless delivery is unlike anyone or anything seen in the world of comedy – now or before his time – and no better proof of that is in the first of his Netflix stand-up comedy specials, The Age of Spin. Filmed live at the Hollywood Palladium, this Grammy-winning special saw the A Star is Born actor’s triumphant return to the mainstream following his controversial decision to leave his groundbreaking Comedy Central series, which is easily the lightest of topics he touches on before riffing on everything from racism to sexuality and recalling his multiple encounters with O.J. Simpson.

No one’s brand of comedy is the same, so hopefully we have covered everything that fans of stand-up specials might be interested in streaming on Netflix in the list above.

While Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony was no laughing manner, the discourse in the aftermath certainly inspired a lot of takes from myriad people – from actors to those who have hosted awards shows like Billy Crystal and more. Of course, comedy hosts were not immune to bringing up what happened, either, and Trevor Noah was among those with thoughts. His comments largely focused on the Oscars banning Will Smith for a period of 10 years rather than the initial incident, and he used them as a jumping-off point to roast himself when it comes to competing with John Oliver’s popular Last Week Tonight, too. 

After the viral moment aired live on television, the Academy ultimately conducted a formal review of the incident and came up with a ban that would keep Will Smith from attending the Oscars but would not keep him from being nominated. As Trevor Noah pointed out, that’s hardly a punishment. In fact, for some people who attend awards shows often and lose just as often, it might be the ideal situation. Per Noah’s comments on The Daily Show: 

In other words, the ban may be meant to be a punishment, but for someone like The Daily Show host, it may be a blessing in disguise. That’s likely due to the fact that Trevor Noah’s show is oft-nominated at awards ceremonies and oft loses. In fact in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has landed a nomination in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category. Every single one of those years the show has lost to John Oliver. Every. Single. One. 

Now, Trevor Noah has used the Will Smith ban to joke around about his own Emmy nomination failures. It may be a little tongue-in-cheek, but there's certainly some truth to the pain of putting on a good face when one loses over and over too. 

But who knows, Trevor Noah, 2022 could be your year! 

Meanwhile, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith actually bowed out of the 2016 Oscars during the #Oscarssowhite controversy. This year the famous couple attended to support King Richard in which Smith portrayed Williams family patriarch Venus and Serena, who notably helped the girls achieve superstardom in tennis. Though Smith slapping Chris Rock became the story of the night, Will Smith did go on to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards and gave a lengthy acceptance speech. Smith later apologized to the Oscars host and comedian. 

We all love our streaming services, and one that has been around since the dawn of the streaming service era is Netflix. While we can all spend our time watching some of the best shows on Netflix, or even streaming the best movies on Netflix, I think it’s time we take a look at some of the other genres that the service has to offer – some awesome comedy specials.

Namely, we are going to be looking at some hilarious comedy specials from people of color on the platform, such as Kevin Hart, Russell Peters, and so many others. While there are some great stand-up comedy specials on Amazon Prime, we need to take a glance at what Netflix has to offer, so here we go.

Tiffany Haddish: Black Mitzvah

Tiffany Haddish is one of those actresses where you know her name and has seen several of her amazing and hilarious movies, such as Girls Trip. However, I, for some reason, always forget that while her projects are amazing, she’s also a hysterical comedian.

In Tiffany Haddish: Black Mitzvah, Haddish goes all in on some great comedy, talking about how you can feel safe if you feel danger is around, her drinking habits, and so many others with a funny twist. You’ll surely be laughing your butt off with this comedian’s first Netflix special.

Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones

As far as I'm concerned, Dave Chappelle is a legend when it comes to comedy. We all know his name, from his time doing Chappelle’s Show, or even his films from The Nutty Professor to having a part in A Star is Born. But Netflix and Chappelle have a special connection, considering he signed on for a deal with the streaming platform, so far releasing five comedy specials for Netflix.

One of his best, in my opinion, is Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones. There’s just something so raunchy about his comedy that makes him one of the best comedians out there right now – and in my eyes, one of the best of all time. From talking about the current state of politics to raising a child, Chappelle covers all of his tracks in Sticks & Stones and will have you holding your side from laughing.

Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given

If you don’t know who Kevin Hart is, you must be living under a rock because he has become one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. The comedian, who started out with specials like Laugh At My Pain and Let Me Explain, became a worldwide household name when he starred in big-time films such as Jumanji, Ride Along, Get Hard, and so many others. Sometimes you almost forget that he’s a comedian with how many films this Kevin Hart has done.

One of Kevin Hart’s best stand-ups, in my opinion, is his latest, called Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given. In this special, he brought in a small group of people into a comedy-club-sized room, creating an intimate space instead of a giant arena after the COVID-19 pandemic began. I don’t know, there’s just something so nice about this compared to some of his other specials. There’s still some great comedy like normal but it’s nice to see him in a smaller space.

Russell Peters: Almost Famous

Moving on, we take a look at Russell Peters. Fun fact – he was actually the first-ever stand-up comedian to receive a comedy special on Netflix (back in 2013), so that’s how you know he’s important. This Canadian stand-up comedian has done plenty outside of the comedy realm, such as roles in New Year’s Eve and even a voice role in The Jungle Book. However, his comedy is where it’s at.

For his pick, we’re going with Russell Peters: Almost Famous, where he returns back home to Canada, talking about his life and his tour across the world, speaking about some of the things he has gotten to witness while doing so, and honestly, it’s so funny. One of his best comedy specials to date, in my opinion. You won’t regret carving out an hour to view this film.

Gabriel Iglesias: One Show Fits All

Gabriel Iglesias has and will always be one of my favorite comedians. Otherwise known as “Fluffy,” Gabriel Iglesias is known for his quick-wit stand-up comedy while also making some of the best sound effects you’ll ever hear. While he’s had some success in the movie and TV realm, with roles in films such as Magic Mike and Coco, as well as his own sitcom for a bit, his stand-up specials are some of the best out there.

For his pick, while there are so many to choose from, I’m going with Gabriel Iglesias: One Show Fits All. In this special, he talks about his family, meeting crazy celebrities, Hollywood shenanigans, and everything else in-between. If you haven’t seen any of his specials, give this one a shot. I promise you, you’ll be crying from laughter after listening to some of his stories.

I’m sure that at some point in your life watching comedy specials, you have heard of Trevor Noah. George Lopez: We’ll Do It For Half

I, like many other people my age, grew up watching George Lopez, the ABC sitcom that became extremely popular. Besides that, George Lopez has done so much in the film and TV world, with roles in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Valentine’s Day, The Smurfs, Rio, and so many others. But like many comedians on this list, his stand-up comedy is second to none, especially his Netflix special.

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, the biggest night of the year for the music industry, is finally about to happen following an extended delay and uncertainty on account of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its continued effects on virtually every aspect of modern life. All of that will hopefully be forgotten, for a few hours at least, when the likes of Beyoncé, Taylor Swift (following her landmark year), Billie Eilish, and the rest of today’s top musical artists vie for a slew of hardware to their collections at the Grammy Awards 2021.

But with not much time between now and the March 2021 ceremony highlighting the biggest and brightest stars in music (and soundtracks from movies yet to be released), there are still a lot of things that may have slipped between the cracks. Well, fear not, Swifties and members of the Beyhive, because we’ve put together a quick rundown of what to expect from the Grammy Awards 2021. Let’s dive on in…

When The 2021 Grammy Awards Will Air On TV

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will air live Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, the ceremony’s home since 1973. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on January 31, 2021, but it was postponed just weeks before it was to take air due to COVID concerns, per a Variety report.

How To Watch The 2021 Grammy Awards Streaming

Previous iterations of the Grammy Awards have been available to stream on CBS All Access, which will also be the case for this year’s ceremony, the only difference being the streaming service’s new name. Like all other major events (and broadcasts from CBS as well as its news and sports divisions), the Grammy Awards 2021 will be streaming on the new Paramount+ platform, which makes its grand debut on Thursday, March 4, ten days prior to the annual ceremony.

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will also be streaming through CBS on internet-based cable services like YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and other similar platforms. All excited viewers will need to do is open their preferred app, find CBS, and start streaming.

Earlier in the day, the Recording Academy will be streaming the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony on Grammy.com. Starting at 12 p.m. ET on the day of the regular ceremony, approximately 75 awards will be handed out in a virtual celebration featuring performances, presenters, and more.

Where The 2021 Grammy Awards Will Be Held

The Grammy Awards Ceremony typically airs from the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, but this year’s event will be held in the outdoor portion of the Los Angeles Convention Center with the iconic arena serving as the backdrop. News of this change came from Variety in February 2021 when it was also reported that the awards show will not feature a live audience with only a small number of reporters being in attendance. Many media members, however, have registered for virtual screenings instead of attending in person.

The decision to hold the Grammy Awards 2021 outdoors for the first time in the event’s 63-year history also contributed to the Recording Academy’s decision to push the ceremony back to March 14 in hopes of having warmer and more favorable weather than an outdoor ceremony in the middle of winter.

The 2021 Grammy Awards Host

Handling the hosting duties at the Grammy Awards 2021 will be The Daily Show host and Grammy-nominated comedian Trevor Noah, who will be serving as the annual ceremony’s host for the first time in his career. This news was announced by the Recording Academy’s official Twitter account in November 2020 (when the ceremony was still slated to be held January 31, 2021), and despite the change in date, Noah, remained on as the master of ceremonies for “Music’s Biggest Night.”

Trevor Noah, who had a surprising and easy to miss cameo in Black Panther (he’s Griot, the voice of the A.I. in Shuri’s lab in the 2018 cultural phenomenon), previously received a Grammy nomination in 2020 for his comedy album, Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia. The South African comedian has served as the host of The Daily Show since 2015.

The 2021 Grammy Awards Performances

There are few things at the Grammy Awards each year that get talked about as much as the outstanding performances from nominees and icons of the industry. This year looks to be no different, especially after taking a glance at all the artists slated to take the stage on music’s biggest night. In March 2021, the Recording Academy announced the full list of performers and further helped the show’s case of being must-watch television. Scheduled to perform are: Taylor Swift, BTS, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, Bad Buddy, Harry Styles, Black Pumas, Cardi B, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Haim, Lil Baby, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Post Malone, and more.

The Artists With The Most Grammy Nominations In 2021

Sitting at the top of the list of Grammy Awards 2021 nominees is none other than Beyoncé, who has a staggering nine nominations leading into the March 14 ceremony. With multiple nominations coming from her hit single “Black Parade,” including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, the “Queen B” is also nominated for her film Black is King, her “Brown Skin Girl” music video, and her appearance on Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage.”

Speaking of Megan Thee Stallion, the hit sensation is nominated for a total of four awards, including Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best New Artist, which was won by Billie Eilish in 2020. Eilish is also nominated for four Grammys this year, including one for the title track for the forthcoming No Time to Die.

And then there is Taylor Swift, who is nominated for a total of six Grammys this year, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Folklore, Song of the Year and Best Solo Pop Performance for “Cardigan,” and several others following an extremely busy year for the music icon.

But who will win all those awards and who will make a name for themselves with an electric performance at this year's ceremony? We'll have to wait and see when the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony airs live on CBS Sunday, March 14 at 8 p.m. ET.

Considering how wildly political the entire world has gotten in the past four years or so, it's almost strange that comedian and former Daily Show host Jon Stewart hadn't ever carved out another TV safe haven for himself. Not that he hasn't kept busy with other duties and projects, and not that he'd even want to return to the same kind of format. For as much as he can reflect fondly at his talk show career on Comedy Central, there are still some regrets.

Specifically, Jon Stewart is somewhat rueful of his experiences on The Daily Show when inflammatory guests were brought in and the show fed into showy arguments rather than strictly meaningful dialogues. Speaking with the New York Times about his new movie Irresistible and other things, Stewart said this about his Daily Show past:

Indeed, some of the past Daily Show moments that people looked forward to the most were the episodes whenever Jon Stewart would host another outspoken news personality, which would inevitably lead to hilarious (and sometimes truly meaningful) confrontations where volumes and tensions would rise accordingly. Any time Stewart sat across a desk from a Fox News anchor or a pundit who'd spoken ill of The Daily Show in the past, the fireworks were often fun to watch again and again.

I can understand, however, how those emotionally driven episodes and interviews might not stand tallest in Jon Stewart's mind when it comes to moments he's the most proud of. It's definitely not easy to always take the high road when the low road seems so welcoming and easy to travel on, and everyone is calling you out for not joining in.

As much as fans might want to challenge Jon Stewart into creating another Daily Show-esque series in order to redeem his past woes, it doesn't sound like there's even a table for that option to be on. Here's how he answered when asked by NYT if he was currently interested in becoming a regular part of the political conversation again.

Perhaps most notably in that respect, Jon Stewart has been an advocate for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. He made headlines in 2019 during a hearing when he angrily calling out all the absent Congress members for not being present. The fund was thankfully approved soon after that.

In the years since Jon Stewart left The Daily Show, the Comedy Central series has been hosted by Trevor Noah, who was not so uniformly welcomed in his first couple of years in the job. By and large, though, many viewers now consider the satirical show to be back on stable footing, with no interesting in having Noah get replaced, even during the episodes-from-home mini-era.

Jon Stewart, meanwhile, hasn't been completely absent from later-evening TV appearances. He's always good for a random appearance opposite former co-worker Stephen Colbert on CBS' The Late Show (for which Stewart is an executive producer.) He appeared on John Krasinski's Some Good News with a commencement speech, and also offered some words during the TV special where Dave Chappelle was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He might one day do some kind of TV show again, though it would probably be something far sillier and scripted than political.

Most notably, though, is Stewart's second directorial effort, Irresistible, which stars Steve Carrell and Rose Byrne. Its original release date was June 26, though we'll have to see how that plays out.

Many things have changed quite a lot in just a few weeks, and this includes the look and feel of the late night television landscape. After forgoing audiences for a few episodes and then taking a break from full shows, our current crop of late night talk show hosts returned to the airwaves in force earlier this week. But, they have to do the same thing the rest of us are doing, so Trevor Noah, Jimmy Fallon, Samantha Bee, et al. are mostly working form the confines of their homes. This, in turn, has led to what one late night producer calls "super janky" techniques to get shows done and on the air.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and the many other late night shows which are now filming shows from their hosts' homes have had to go through many other changes beside recording celebrity interviews over video chat and trying to figure out the best area of a house to turn into a de facto TV studio, only to have Martha Stewart be salty about their design choices.

The creatives behind these shows are also working from home, and according to what Daily Show With Trevor Noah executive producer Jen Flanz told The Hollywood Reporter, it's meant using some out of the box techniques to get everything done on time.

Wow. That does sound like a janky work situation, right? And you thought you had problems these past couple of weeks having to video chat Barb in accounting every time you need approval on an invoice. Of course you're tired of seeing her cat's butt on your screen every few hours, but at least you're not trying to put together a whole TV show that way. You'd never get the sight of that fluffy butthole out of your head if that were the case. The nightmares...

The new work from home normal has been difficult on a lot of people, but when you're dealing with graphics and other large files that can't just be transferred from one office to another over a strong business internet connection, it makes assembling a completed late night show even harder. Luckily, the shows are trying to accept the current situation and even use it to help make these new "janky" shows connect with audiences. Gavin Purcell, showrunner of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon noted:

Everyone is working to make the best of things so that they can continue to bring some levity to the millions who feel trapped at home right now. For Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, this includes finding a work-around to the way things have been done over the past couple of weeks. About those ideas, executive producer Alison Camillo said:

I'm sure we all look forward to whatever new ideas these folks come up with, but, to be blunt, it's just really nice to have even the tiniest bit of normalcy back in daily life, so just having all these shows back on air, janky or not, is a real treat.

The 2019 Academy Awards has come and gone, and while there were plenty of serious moments throughout the night, there were also some laughs to be had as well. The world wanted to know if the Oscars could find the funny without a host, and still get a laugh, and while the masses will decide for themselves tonight and tomorrow, here we're here to highlight some of the funnier moments of the show in chronological order.

Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, And Amy Poehler Open The Show

The Oscars kicked its host-less night with three women that could've hosted - and they let the world know. It didn't take long for the former Saturday Night Live cast members to get the laughs rolling, as they riffed on the night, each other, and other topical humor much to the delight of the audience. After a stunning performance by Queen, it seemed as though the Oscars could survive without a host.

With that said, Hollywood, let's go ahead and get these ladies an invitation in advance for next year's show. The run time improved significantly, but the jokes this year felt few and far between when compared to the past. Starting off with these three was a smart move, but maybe set the bar too high for the rest of the night comedy-wise.

Melissa McCarthy And Brian Tyree Henry Look Amazing

Physical comedy and deadpan humor are tough to do in an Oscars sketch, so full credit to Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry for absolutely knocking it out of the park. Of course, they had a lot of help in their amazing costumes, which really elevated the whole bit immensely.

Anyone who doesn't think McCarthy has some of the best comedic chops in Hollywood should try to give that same speech while making a rabbit puppet move. As for anyone who thought that about Brian Tyree Henry, they just need to start watching Atlanta - although viewers probably already got their fill of Donald Glover listening to one of his songs repeatedly during the Oscar broadcast commercial breaks.

Keegan-Michael Key Makes A Mary Poppins Entrance

Keegan-Michael Key got the Oscars stunt of the night, descending from the ceiling with an umbrella in a clear homage to Mary Poppins Returns. The actor was really living in the moment on his way down, and had both arms and legs locked as the crowd cheered him on the way down.

The star stuck the dismount, but stumbled a bit with the umbrella, and, honestly, that unplanned bit may have been the funniest part of the whole segment. Of course, it didn't appear as though it was planned in the slightest. Just proof that funny people like Keegan-Michael Key are good at comedy even when they aren't trying!

Trevor Noah Takes A Shot At Mel Gibson

Leave it for The Daily Show host to take a shot at riskiest joke of the night. Trevor Noah took the stage to talk about Black Panther, and in the process reminded Hollywood that one of its own has a seriously checkered past. Noah took a risk for cheers - would he be rewarded with a fair amount of jeers for taking a shot at the actor?

Turns out there were no jeers tonight, as Trevor Noah got the audience rolling with his joke. It wasn't a complete surprise, although similar jokes at award shows like these have been met with criticism before. It was a gamble, but one that seems to have paid off for the man who people don't immediately realize is in Black Panther.

Paul Rudd Being Paul Rudd

At the award shows mid-point, the jokes started to wear a bit thin. Needless to say Paul Rudd was like finding an oasis in a dry dry desert. It was a simple joke, just a riff on visual effects being utilized to make him appear to be an actor, but it was enough to get the crowd going again after a long period of quiet.

From a comedy standpoint this may have been a point where a host would've been missed. That's not to say having a host would've absolutely kept the laughs going in that lull period, but it wouldn't have put the burden on actors who don't necessarily have the funny bone to attempt to get a laugh when it didn't feel like it was going to happen. Fortunately, Paul Rudd isn't one of those actors.

Samuel L. Jackson Delivers An NBA Update

Once you get to a certain point in Hollywood, sticking to the script is optional. Samuel L. Jackson proved that today when he took the stage with his Captain Marvel co-star Brie Larson and decided to go rogue. Jackson, in a room full of Hollywood elite likely wound so tight with nerves they can't stand it, decided to inform everyone, specifically his friend Spike Lee, that the Knicks won today.

The moment may very well go down in the show's history, as Samuel L. Jackson would minutes later award Spike Lee with his very first Academy Award. In the words of Lee, it was about time the institution did "the right thing." Lee is probably also hoping the Knicks continue to do the right thing and keep that win streak alive! He might have better luck just crossing his fingers for another Oscar, though.

Frances McDormand Has No Comment

Frances McDormand had Hollywood talking following her 2018 acceptance speech, as the actress' went on a passionate rant and ended on a term that had folks talking inside and outside Hollywood. Her call for inclusion riders inspired many, and made some waves that might've led to that Oscar of hers being stolen temporarily. Okay, that last bit probably isn't true, but who doesn't love a good Hollywood conspiracy?

It was a wild night, so obviously when Frances McDormand strolled out on stage, there was a certain expectation she might have something else to say. That expectation made it that much funnier when McDormand was stone cold silent on stage, other than to say she had "no comment." The crowd loved it, and surely quite a few folks watching at home did as well.

In the lead-up to major blockbusters, there's no shortage of rumors and reports about actors/characters who might pop up/cameo, and once said blockbuster is released, moviegoers will learn who all was involved outside of the main cast, either by watching the theatrical tale or by reading articles in the day after. But every now and then, someone who participated in a major movie slips through the proverbial cracks, and such is the case for Black Panther. The 18th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was released in theaters in February and arrived on home media earlier this month, but now it's been discovered that The Daily Show host Trevor Noah lent his talents as the voice of the computer aiding Everett Ross.

If you paid close attention to the Black Panther credits, you may have noticed that Trevor Noah was listed, but he was identified as "Griot," and there's no character by that name mentioned in the movie. Fortunately, an astute Redditor picked up that Trevor is voicing the A.I. in Shuri's lab that helped Everett Ross pilot the Wakandan aircraft and warned him of nearby danger in the Black Panther finale. Noah now joins the ranks of actors who've voiced handy A.I. in the MCU, which includes Paul Bettany, Kerry Condon and Jennifer Connelly. While most of Black Panther's action took place in Wakanda, T'Challa, Okoye and Nakia traveled to South Korea to apprehend Ulysses Klaue, the weapons dealer who snuck into Wakanda nearly three decades earlier and stole a large amount of vibranium, killing many of the country's citizens in the process. However, upon reaching the location where Klaue was supposed to be, T'Challa reunited with Everett Ross, the CIA agent he met in Captain America: Civil War who was trying to procure a sample of vibranium Klaue recently obtained. While T'Challa and Ross weren't on the same page at first in Black Panther, after Ross was brought back to Wakanda so his bullet wound could be healed, he became a full-on ally to the eponymous hero and the other protagonists by providing intel on Killmonger and using his piloting experience to shoot down the aircraft that were going to take vibranium weapons outside of the country. But even still, using Wakandan technology for the first time is difficult, so it's fortunate that the Trevor Noah-voiced Griot was there to help him.

Later this year, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show will feature its first new host in 16 years, as its stalwart leader Jon Stewart will pass the baton to correspondent Trevor Noah. Before Noah got the gig, many names were tossed around about who could replace Stewart, but not a lot of people were talking about comedian and filmmaker Chris Rock taking the job. But he was apparently being considered for it, though he eventually backed off because he would have only wanted it in a temporary scenario, rather than a new leg in his career. That could have been amazing.

According to a highly informative article in the New York Times about Comedy Central’s process in the modern TV era, Rock would have only wanted to stay on as a Daily Show host for a little over a year. He had no interest in going past November 8, 2016, as he thought the show should have a more permanent host following the next presidential election. Personally, I would love to have seen Rock sitting in the driver’s seat as the presidential race heated up, especially with potential candidates like Donald Trump and Jeb Bush making waves. It should be a crime that viewers don’t get to hear Rock skewering these guys on a daily basis.

Which isn’t to say that Comedy Central’s president of content and original programming Kent Alterman would definitely have hired Rock, as he claims Noah was the only person that got an official offer for the job. But Rock already has quite a bit of experience hosting a talk show that embraced controversy and comedy with equally open arms, as he fronted The Chris Rock Show on HBO for five seasons from 1997 to 2000, with mega-star Louis C.K. as one of the head writers. How incredible would it be if C.K. would have joined The Daily Show with Rock as the host?

Rock actually had one of the more perfect responses to Noah landing the hosting job, as seen in the tweet below.

Also in the article, it was confirmed that Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler was called up in order to gauge her interest for the gig, while no one went so far as to ask her to take it. And that was probably a good thing, as it was apparently “the quickest no in history,” according to a Comedy Central employee privy to the phone call.

After a long and lengthy search, Comedy Central has now locked down its new man of the hour. Trevor Noah will be the new host of The Daily Show, taking over the hit late night talk show after Jon Stewart retires from the series. Noah actually joined The Daily Show as a correspondent in 2014, but he'll soon have quite a few more responsibilities on the series.

We’ve known Jon Stewart will be leaving his popular show for a couple of months now, and in that time the network has actively been working to find a suitable replacement. For a while, Samantha Bee was considered to be a prime choice, but then she dropped the bomb that she would be leaving Comedy Central, too. Just a couple of days ago, Noah was also rumored to be the frontrunner to take over The Daily Show, but since he’s still rather a newbie on the series, it wasn’t clear how serious the network was about the candidate. Now it seems the channel had big aspirations for the South African comedian, indeed. Current details are still slim on when the shift from Stewart to Noah will take place on the network, but it is expected to happen sometime this year.

Noah has only been a correspondent on The Daily Show for a six months, and he’s only popped up in a few segments on the series. Luckily, he’s also done plenty of stand-up comedy and even appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman thanks to his comedy skills, which infuse information about his South African roots with everyday comedy. Last summer Stewart took some time off to make his directorial debut with Rosewater, a process he seemed to really enjoy, and we're guessing once he finishes up with The Daily Show we'll see other pursuits of that ilk from the man. With his contract expiring in 2015, it seems like a good time for the man to dabble in projects elsewhere, rather than get tied down by another long-term contract.
