DC fans will soon be treated to yet another Superman film, which is set to hit the 2025 movie schedule and star David Corenswet in the lead role. He will be the latest actor to portray the fan-favorite superhero after Tyler Hoechlin, who wrapped up his run as Clark Kent last fall on The CW’s Superman & Lois. Despite the series receiving a premature end, likely because of the new Supes movie, I appreciate Hoechlin's amiable take on someone else taking over.

Tyler Hoechlin debuted as Superman during the second season of Supergirl in 2016. He later reprised the character on The Flash, Arrow, Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow before eventually starring in his own series, Superman & Lois, with Bitsie Tulloch. The series premiered in 2021, and the emotional series finale aired this past December. Hoechlin appeared on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast, Inside of You, where he was asked if he was disappointed that the show only ran for four seasons. All in all, Hoechlin holds no hard feelings:

Obviously, portraying the Man of Steel is no small feat, and it sounds like Hoechlin was just happy that he was able to perform the role for as long as he did. On top of that, Superman & Lois' series finale provided perfect endings for all of the characters, including Clark. Cancellations can typically hit shows before their creative teams can provide closure., so it's great that S&L had the opportunity to wrap everything up. While Hoechlin isn't bummed out about the show ending, there is an aspect of the experience that he does miss:

I can certainly understand Tyler Hoechlin being somewhat sad that he's no longer working with his Superman & Lois colleagues and working with them on a regular basis. Based on the leading man's comments, I'd imagine that in that time, they forged a close bond. And how can you not after working together through four seasons marked by global pandemic, a corporate merger and more?

Not a lot of people can say they played Superman and, regardless of how long that stint lasted, the Teen Wolf alum seems to be grateful for the experience. Additionally, he also shared sentiments about being able to pass on the mantle to the next actor, and I absolutely love these comments:

Both Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch have been supportive of the new Superman movie as well. Hoechlin previously shared his excitement over seeing David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, while Tulloch shouted out new Lois actress Rachel Brosnahan in her Superman & Lois farewell post when filming on the final season wrapped. I love to see actors being supportive of each other.

It’s still sad that Superman & Lois is over, especially given the quality of the show and just how close the cast and crew seemed to be. Still, it's heartwarming to know that Hoechlin is enthusiastic about passing the torch and remains grateful for his time in the role. Fans can watch all four seasons of S&L now with a Max subscription, while Superman flies into theaters on July 11.

You know the old saying: when one Superman door closes, another one opens. Just a few months ago, Superman & Lois concluded its run on The CW, and all four seasons can now be streamed with a Max subscription. But we won’t be without a live-action Man of Steel for too much longer, as James Gunn’s Superman is set on the 2025 movies schedule for a July release. With just five months to go until the upcoming DC movie’s arrival, Tyler Hoechlin, who played Clark Kent on Superman & Lois, shared why he’s excited for David Corenswet’s take on the popular superhero, and they’re sentiments I also share.

Hoechlin shared his thoughts on this subject while speaking with ScreenRant at the Saturn Awards. When asked if he was excited for the new Superman and what he’s hoping to see, the actor responded:

Superman was part of Tyler Hoechlin’s life for nearly a decade, as he started out recurring as the Kryptonian hero in a handful of Supergirl episodes and also took part in the Arrowverse’s “Elseworlds” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossovers. Then he got to the chance to take center stage alongside Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane in Superman & Lois, though it was later revealed that these were different versions of the characters than the ones previously seen. Regardless, his time as Superman is now over, but he’s looking forward to seeing what David Corenswet does in the role and appreciated the note his fellow actor sent him ahead of the movie filming.

Throw in Hoechlin’s enthusiasm for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and that’s a winning combination for him with Superman, the first movie set in the new DC Universe continuity. As someone who views Tyler Hoechlin as the best live-action Superman so far, I share in his excitement on this. Obviously there’s no guarantee the the new movie will be exceptional, but the first Superman trailer definitely left a great first impression for me, and I also am impressed with James Gunn’s track record in both the DC and Marvel spaces. Between this and the MCU’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, July’s looking solid on the upcoming superhero movies front.

As far as Superman goes, specific plot details are still being kept under wraps, but David Corenswet is joined by Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, Wendell Pierce, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Sara Sampaio and María Gabriela de Faría, among others. The movie opens in theaters on July 11, and my fingers are crossed that Tyler Hoechlin will be invited beforehand to the world premiere.

In 2012, Arrow premiered on The CW and kicked off a shared universe of DC Comics properties on television. The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and Black Lightning followed, and for nearly a decade, this franchise delivered interconnected stories that channeled the same appeal that their comic book source material had been doing for decades. Many superheroes were featured in the Arrowverse, but we’re here to talk about 32 that had major roles in the franchise.

Before going further, there are some stipulations to point out. First, these characters need to have been established in the comics as superheroes before they were introduced in the Arrowverse, hence why characters like Nia Nal/Dreamer, Sara Lance/White Canary and John Diggle/Spartan aren’t on here. Second, these characters need to be chiefly known as heroes in the comics, which is why the likes of Captain Cold, Heat Wave and Killer Frost won’t be mentioned. Finally, we’re only covering the six live-action shows that made up the main Arrowverse continuity, both pre and post-“Crisis on Infinite Earths,” so don’t go looking for people from shows like Superman & Lois and Stargirl.

Green Arrow

Arrow starred Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, and while he initially went by The Hood and The Arrow, this version of Oliver finally started going by Green Arrow in Season 4. In addition to his eight seasons leading Arrow, Amell’s Oliver participated in all the biggest Arrowverse crossover events. He died in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” but fans got to reunite with him in the Arrow series finale and The Flash episode “It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To.”

The Flash

Oliver Queen may have ushered in the Arrowverse, but it wasn’t until Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen got struck by that bolt of lightning that this franchise started getting truly fantastical and fully embracing its superhero roots. Barry protected the citizens of Central City for nine seasons of The Flash, and he was also present for every big Arrowverse crossover event. This Barry also had the unique privilege of being the only Arrowverse hero to cross over with the DCEU, as he met Ezra Miller’s Flash in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

Supergirl

Although Supergirl originally debuted on CBS, it was established to take part in the wider Arrowverse continuity when Barry Allen traveled to the Earth of Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers late in Season 1. Those ties only grew stronger once the show moved to The CW, and from there, Kara rounded out the Arrowverse’s main trinity of superheroes with Barry and Oliver Queen. At the end of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Kara’s Earth merged with the franchise’s main Earth, so Supergirl concluded its six-season run in the same world where the majority of her superhero cohorts now live.

Batwoman

Initially Batwoman starred Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, the same character who holds the mantle in the comics. However, following Rose’s exit post-Season 1, Ryan Wilder (seen above) was created to take over as the vigilante, with Javicia Leslie being cast to play her. Batwoman only lasted three seasons, but both Kate (later played by Wallis Day) and Ryan still stood out as important heroes before, during and after that time, with the former appearing in both the “Elseworlds” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths crossovers,” and the latter both reprising her role on The Flash and playing an evil speedster version of Ryan called Red Death early in Season 9.

Black Lightning

When Black Lightning came along, there was absolutely nothing connecting it to the Arrowverse. Jefferson Pierce’s return to superheroing unfolded in its own corner of the multiverse, but then “Crisis on Infinite Earths” came along and merged his Earth with the main Arrowverse Earth and Supergirl’s. Cress Williams would later reprise Jefferson for an episode of The Flash Season 8, but it was across Black Lightning’s four-season run where he shined best, with no one but the allies in his immediate circle on hand to help him out.

Black Canary

Five individuals held the Black Canary mantle in the Arrowverse: Sara Lance, the Laurel Lance from Earth-1, Evelyn Sharp, Dinah Drake (seen above), and the Laurel Lance from Earth-2. Of those five, the two Laurels and Dinah were able to unleash a sonic scream on their enemies, although Earth-1’s Laurel’s came from a device rather than as a metahuman ability like the other two. There had been plans for Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy to continue respectively playing Earth-2 Laurel and Dinah alongside Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak in a Green Arrow & The Canaries spinoff, but it was never picked up.

The Atom

Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer debuted at the beginning of Arrow Season 3, where he would unveil his A.T.O.M. exosuit. After initially having been presumed dead by the end of the season, Ray resurfaced in Season 4 having been revealed to be shrunken to the size of an atom, and he was able to incorporate shrinking into his exosuit. From there, he became one of the founding Legends of Tomorrow and stuck around on that show as a series regular until midway through Season 5.

Arsenal

By Arrow Season 3, Colton Haynes’ Roy Harper, who’d already appeared in the first two seasons, had taken up archery and joined Oliver Queen in fighting crime as Arsenal, though he was also called Red Arrow by the media. Although Roy had to leave Team Arrow that same season after he masqueraded as The Arrow and faked his death, he would still pop in and out of the show throughout the rest of Arrow’s run to help out his friends. He also followed in his comic book counterpart’s footsteps by gaining a cybernetic arm.

Speedy

The second Speedy in the comics was Mia Dearden, so it was only appropriate that Willa Holland's Thea Queen, who was a loose adaptation of the character, also received that name. When Roy left Star City, he left his Arsenal costume behind, and she made adjustments to it so she could wear it out in the field and join her brother Oliver as a bow-and-arrow-wielding superhero. Eventually she embarked on a personal crusade to battle the Thanatos Guild.

Vibe

Carlos Valdés’ Cisco Ramon was already a valued member of Team Flash at the beginning as its tech genius, but after he discovered he was a metahuman capable of manipulating dimensional energy, he became Vibe. Cisco took a metahuman cure in Season 5, but he continued to fight crime as Mecha-Vibe using a suit that provided him with some of his former powers until he left in Season 7 to join A.R.G.U.S.

Superman

I know, I said I wouldn’t include anybody from Superman & Lois on this list. However, in this case, I’m talking about the Superman from Earth-38/Earth-Prime. In other words, this is the Clark Kent who appeared on Supergirl and participated in “Elseworlds” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” We’d assumed he was also the one leading Superman & Lois until it was revealed that show is set on another Earth.

Martian Manhunter

Originally Supergirl viewers thought David Harewood was playing Hank Henshaw, the man who became Cyborg Superman in the comics. But early in Season 1, it was revealed that his character was actually J’onn J’onzz, a.k.a. Martian Manhunter, who assumed Henshaw’s identity to try and do good as the director of the Department of Extranormal Operations. Harewood would later play the sinister Henshaw for a few episodes, but it was J’onn who stuck around for all of Supergirl as one of Kara’s most important allies.

Elongated Man

Ralph Dibny gained his elastic powers from The Thinker’s machinations in The Flash Season 4, and after being stabilized, he joined Team Flash to help them fight crime as Elongated Man. Hartley Sawyer portrayed the character through to the end of Season 6, but after the actor was fired from the show, a stand-in performer was used for the Season 7 premiere. While healing from some major burns, Ralph decided to leave Team Flash to travel the world with Sue Dearbon and dismantle various criminal organizations.

Vixen

Although Mari McCabe, the Vixen from the comics, was played by Megalyn Echikunwoke in the Vixen and The Ray animated web series, as well as an episode of Arrow, it was the character’s grandmother, Amaya Jiwe (seen above), who got more attention in the Arroverse. An original character created for Legends of Tomorrow, Amaya, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers, was active as Vixen during World War II as a Justice Society member, and after traveling through time with the Legends for a while, she returned to her original time period at the end of Season 3. Richardson-Sellers then stuck around a few more seasons as a shapeshifter named Charlie.

Firestorm

Just like in the comics, the Arrowverse’s original Firestorm duo consisted of Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond and Victor Garber’s Martin Stein, with the two being recurring characters in The Flash Season 1. However, after Ronnie died in the Season 2 premiere, Stein merged a few episodes later with Franz Drameh’s Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (seen above), and the two went on to join the Legends of Tomorrow. That’s where they stayed until Stein died in the “Crisis on Earth X” crossover, prompting Jax to leave and resume his normal life.

John Constantine

Although NBC’s Constantine series only lasted one season, Matt Ryan was able to keep playing the trenchcoat-wearing sorcerer in multiple other ways, most notably in the Arrowverse. Following a guest appearance in Arrow Season 4, he returned two years later in Legends of Tomorrow, where he eventually became part of the team and hung around until the end of Season 6. Even then, Ryan remained on the series to play Gwyn Davies, the inventor of time travel.

Kid Flash

Depicted as Iris West’s long-lost brother rather than her nephew like in the comics, Keiynan Lonsdale’s Wally West was introduced midway through The Flash Season 2. After Season 3’s premiere showed him as the Kid Flash of the Flashpoint timeline, the main version of Wally gained super speed when Doctor Alchemy restored his powers from that other reality. Wally exited as a series regular at the beginning of The Flash Season 4, but would later make guest appearances in Seasons 6 and 9, as well as appearing in the latter half of Legends of Tomorrow Season 3.

Jay Garrick

After it was revealed that the Jay Garrick that viewers had been following along with in The Flash Season 2 was really the sinister Zoom, the real Jay was revealed at the end of that season to be a doppelgänger of Henry Allen from Earth-3. With John Wesley Shipp having played Barry Allen in The Flash TV show from 1990 (whom he also reprised in “Elseworlds and “Crisis on Infinite Earths”), it was only fitting that he also play this veteran speedster as well.

Thunder/Blackbird

If you’re making a show about Black Lightning, then it’s only appropriate that you include his superhero daughters too. The first of them was Nafessa Williams’ Anissa Pierce, a.k.a. Thunder, although there were also various instances where she went by the moniker Blackbird. Unlike her father and sister, Anissa didn’t generate and manipulate electricity, but rather was able to manipulate her density with her breathing, giving her super strength and durability.

Lightning

Like her superhero name clearly indicates, not only did Jennifer Pierce inherit the same kind of powers as her father, but she also had the added ability to generate electricity on her own rather than just manipulate it like Jefferson. China Anne McClain played Jennifer for the majority of Black Lightning’s run, but for a good chunk of Season 4, Laura Kariuki took over the role, though this was later revealed to be an ionosphere entity who stole her identity.

Mister Terrific

After being introduced in Arrow Season 4 as a Palmer Technologies employee who worked closely with Felicity Smoak, Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt (rather than Michael Holt, like in the comics) officially joined Team Arrow at the beginning of Season 5, taking the identity Mr. Terrific, which had previously belonged to his favorite wrestler. Curtis stuck with the team until the end of Season 6, and from there he briefly worked for A.R.G.U.S., then took a job in Washington D.C.

Wild Dog

Instead of using Jack Wheeler from the comics, Arrow gave that superhero identity to the original character Rene Ramirez, played by Rick Gonzalez. Although frequently hotheaded, Rene was nonetheless another valued member of Team Arrow for many seasons, though there was a period where he, Curtis and Dinah formed their own group. Eventually, Rene retired from being Wild Dog and became mayor of Star City by the end of the show.

XS

While XS is indeed a character from the comics, The Flash’s version of her is a melding of her and Barry Allen’s daughter, who was known as Dawn in the comics. In this show, while it’s implied that’s what Jessica Parker Kennedy’s character used to be named too, changes to the timeline led to her being named Nora, after Barry’s mother. The original version of Kennedy’s Nora was erased from the timeline after Cicada’s dagger was destroyed, but fortunately, a new version of her came into being afterward.

Impulse

Rather than being Barry Allen’s grandson like in the comics, Jordan Fisher’s Bart Allen, a.k.a. Impulse, is depicted as Barry and Iris West’s son, i.e. Nora’s sister. Introduced towards the end of Season 7, and a speedster just like his father and Nora, Impulse shared a special connection with Jay Garrick and had already made an enemy out of Godspeed from his time period.

Guardian

In Supergirl, the Guardian mantle was held by the Olsen siblings rather than Jim Harper or Mal Duncan. James Olsen first started fighting crime as Guardian in Season 2, with Winn Schott making him his suit and shield. Then in Season 6, one season after Mehcad Brooks stopped playing James as a series regular, Azie Tesfai’s Kelly Olsen (seen above) took over as the new Guardian, although James did don his costume one last time in the series finale.

Citizen Steel

Nick Zano’s Nate Heywood joined Legends of Tomorrow at the beginning of Season 2, gaining the ability to transform his body into steel from an experimental serum. This power is more like Colossus’ from the X-Men than the Nate from the comics, but it was a welcome one to have until mustard gas eroded the steel in Season 7, which led to him retiring from the team. This version of Nate also simply went by Steel rather than Citizen Steel, not to be confused with the John Henry Irons Steel.

Mon-El

Hailing from Daxam, a planet populated by Kryptonian offshoots, Mon-El gained the same kind of superpowers as Supergirl when he landed on Earth. However, because he was a spoiled prince from the Daxamite monarchy, it took a while for him to start behaving like a hero. Mon-El and Kara fell in love, but while Chris Wood and Melissa Benoist married in real life, it wasn’t meant to be for the characters. Mon-El ended up traveling to the 31st century and joined the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Batwing

When Batwoman began, Luke Fox initially started out working behind the scenes to help Kate Kane out, having already been keeping Wayne Tower secure on Batman’s behalf. Then in Season 2, Campus Johnson’s character began his own superhero journey, one which culminated in him constructing a supersuit and becoming Batwing, just like in the comics.

Brainiac 5

Brainiac 5 was one of Mon-El’s teammates in the Legion of Super-Heroes, and together with Saturn Girl, they traveled back to the present day in Supergirl Season 3. By the end of that season, Winn Schott decided to travel to the future to stop an AI-killing virus, Jesse Rath’s Brainiac 5, a.k.a. Brainy, stayed in the present and became one of Supergirl’s most valued allies. He also formed a romantic relationship with Nia Nal.

Hawkgirl

Although both Hawkgirl and Harman appeared in Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 following their introductions in the “Heroes Join Forces Crossover,” Ciara Renée’s Kendra Saunders unquestionably had the bigger role. After her version of Carter Hall was killed by Vandal Savage, she joined the Legends to help try to defeat the villain across time. By the end of Season 1, Kendra and a later incarnation of Carter left after Vandal was finally killed for good.

Rip Hunter

Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter, one of DC Comics’ greatest time travelers, assembled the Legends of Tomorrow to help him stop Vandal Savage. Season 2 saw him bring brainwashed by the Legion of Doom, but fortunately, their programming was erased, and he then decided to leave the Legends after realizing he had nothing left to teach them. He then spent the next five years of his personal timeline forming the Time Bureau, but by the end of Season 3, Rip sacrificed his stop the demon Mallus.

Jesse Quick

Rather than being Jesse Chambers like in the comics, The Flash’s version of Jesse Quick was Jesse Wells, the daughter of Earth-2’s Harrison Wells. Violett Beane's character gained her super speed after being exposed to dark matter during an attempt to restore Barry Allen’s own speed. By Season 3, she began fighting crime on Earth-2, and occasionally on Earth-1, as Jesse Quick. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as though Jesse was restored to life in the new multiverse created during “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

While the Arrowverse is over, these 32 will be remembered as some of its most prominent superheroes, and there are plenty of others we could spend time talking about. They’re just among the many reasons why this franchise will continue being enjoyed for years to come.

The hunt is on for the DCU's next Superman and, as the casting process is reportedly whittling down for the next Lois and Clark, TV's Man of Steel is speaking out. Superman & Lois star Tyler Hoechlin has crushed it as the iconic superhero ever since he joined the Arrowverse by way of Supergirl in 2016, but he's really come into his own, thanks to the great storytelling of his CW series. Given that experience, people value his opinion on things related to the hero, and he had some words of wisdom for fans worried about how the next cinematic iteration of Kal-El will be cast.

The actor was present at the Metropolis Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois over the weekend and took some time to talk to fans about all things related to the comic book hero. Tyler Hoechlin, who confirmed he's not in consideration for the role, shared his thoughts on DC's decision-making over the position. Hoechlin noted during his panel (as recorded by Agrl4god80) that he's not sure DC wanted to "double-book" him, and shared his thoughts on how fans should react to the next Superman casting: 

Sage words from Tyler Hoechlin, who confessed he wasn't exactly a massive Superman fan growing up. Despite that, he's established himself as arguably one of the best actors to ever portray the hero, and that's part of the reason why the show has been so well-received by audiences. 

And while the Teen Wolf alum is probably one of the best advocates to speak on the character at the moment, history has also shown that fans don't always know what they're talking about when it comes to casting decisions. There were many grumbles when Daniel Craig was announced as the first "blonde Bond,"and folks were not immediately on board with the late Heath Ledger playing The Joker. If we all had the vision that some of the top creative minds in Hollywood had, we'd all be major creatives in the entertainment industry, making millions of dollars a year. So it's probably best that we take the actor's advice to heart and give the new guy a chance whenever he's officially hired.

As it currently stands, the rumored short list of actors for Superman: Legacy consists of Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet and Tom Brittney. At this point, who knows which, if any, will get the role. What can be said right now, however, is that there are plenty of people invested in this casting process.

While Tyler Hoechlin is out there advocating for patience in regard to the new Superman, he won't have to worry about his own future as the character for at least another year. Superman & Lois was renewed for Season 4, albeit with a smaller episode order and possibly additional budget restrictions. It's still better than outright cancellation, though, which was a legitimate fear some had. 

And who knows, maybe if enough people watch Superman & Lois on The CW or with a Max subscription his Superman could make his way to the DCU's big screen. Given The Flash movie is toying with the multiverse, Tyler Hoechlin could appear as the character without messing up any plans for the new Superman. I'd be up for seeing it happen, but considering small-screen Barry Allen actor Grant Gustin couldn't even get a cameo role, I wouldn't hold my breath. But that aside, I look forward to seeing who becomes the new Clark Kent and hope that Hoechlin gets to continue playing his iteration of the character as well.

Warning: SPOILERS for the Superman & Lois episode “Of Sound Mind” are ahead!

Earlier this month, Bosch actress Daya Vaidya appeared in the Superman & Lois episode “Head On” as an unnamed cancer patient who spoke with Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent while Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane was going through chemotherapy. As of tonight’s episode, “Of Sound Mind,” this character, named Peia, has been revealed to be someone much more significant to this season, as she’s not only the wife of Chad L. Coleman’s Bruno Mannheim, but also the powerful Onomatopoeia. So needless to say we’ll be seeing much more of her over the course of the season, and Vaidya talked with CinemaBlend about her great experiences working with Coleman and Hoechlin, the former of whom she called her “acting soulmate,” and the latter of whom she described as “Superman in real life.”

Ahead of this episode airing, I spoke with Daya Vaidya about her work on Superman & Lois, which really deserves a lot more love (HBO Max subscribers can stream the first two seasons now). Following her first appearance on The CW series, the actress shared on Instagram how some of her dialogue was taken from words she said to the producers in real life when she was cast, and she told me she felt “moved” by the writers being willing to add this “authenticity” to the character. On the subject of what it was like shooting her first scene on Superman & Lois, Vaidya said this:

At the end of “Too Close to Home,” Lois decided she would sign up as a chemo patient at the hospital located in Hob’s Bay that’s being run by Bruno Mannheim, as she’s determined to find proof that will expose him as one of Metropolis’ top crime bosses. While Lois was trying to dig up dirt on Bruno in “Head On,” Clark chatted with Peia and the other chemo patient about their experiences with breast cancer, giving him a better idea of what awaited Lois during her own battle with breast cancer. 

But now we know that Daya Vaidya’s character is more intimately tied to this season’s story beyond simply being a fellow patient at the same hospital Lois Lane goes to. She and Bruno Mannheim are married, and she gets her hands dirty for the criminal organization as the sound-manipulating Onomatopoeia, who’s been a DC Comics villain for over 20 years. “Of Sound Mind” saw her and Superman finally coming to blows, though unfortunately, following the battle, it was revealed that her powers are fading. While Vaidya understandably did not spoil for me how that fight ended when I interviewed her, she did compliment Tyler Hoechlin for his work ethic, saying:

We got our first taste of Onomatopoeia in Superman & Lois towards the end of the Season 3 premiere, when she showed up to “shoot” Henry Miller using her sound-based powers before he said too much, and then she returned in the following episode to kill George Dean and retrieve the evidence the ex-mayor had hidden after Lana Lang and John Henry Irons found it. At the time I spoke with Daya Vaidya, she also wasn’t willing to go into specifics regarding her character’s dynamic with Bruno Mannheim, but she did confirm my speculation that Onomatopoeia is no more minion to the crime boss, then showered Chad L. Coleman with praise: 

The full scope of Bruno Mannheim’s plan remains shrouded in mystery, but along with it involving giving terminally-ill prisoners superpowers in exchange for carrying out the villain’s directives, we also saw at the end of “Head On” that he had his people raid a D.O.D. facility to retrieve Bizarro Superman’s body, and that’ll obviously spell out trouble. Between all that and the power at Onomatopoeia’s disposal, not to mention Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor arriving later in the season, there’s a lot on Superman’s plate to deal with in his superhero life. Now the big question that’s on my mind: when will Clark and Lois learn that Peia and Onomatopoeia are one and the same?

As of right now, it’s unclear if the DC series will return for Season 4, but main cast member Wolé Parks is optimistic about its chances for renewal.

Last fall was rough for fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman, because after his cameo in Black Adam and a tease we’d be seeing more of him in the DC Extended Universe, it was announced that the actor’s time as the Man of Steel was coming to an end in favor of James Gunn rebooting the character with 2025’s Superman: Legacy. Still, with four full film appearances under his belt (counting both versions of Justice League), Cavill had a solid run as Superman and built up an appropriately-sized fanbase. However, lately I’ve been thinking about how another live-action take on the Superman mythology that doesn’t get nearly as much love as it deserves.

In 2021, five years after Tyler Hoechlin made his first appearance as Superman on Supergirl, and three years after Elizabeth Tulloch debuted as Lois Lane during the “Elseworlds” crossover, Superman & Lois premiered on The CW, and it recently began its third season. And yet, even with so much positive reception surrounding the series two years later, I’m dismayed by the amount of chatter I see for it; there should be a lot more! So if you’ll sit with me a bit, here are a few reasons why Superman & Lois should be talked about more as one of the best DC TV shows out there.

It Boasts Top-Notch Superhero Action

Although it’s great to finally live in an age where superhero action can finally be effectively shown in a live-action setting, it goes without saying that the production value for such shows can never reach the level of a blockbuster superhero movie. And yet, I never find myself thinking of such limitations when watching Superman & Lois. Sure, some episodes are more action-heavy than others, but whether we’re watching Clark go toe-to-toe with an adversary like Bizarro Superman or simply watching his son Jordan learn how to fly, it never feels like we’re seeing cheap visual effects on display. Hats off to the show’s stunt and VFX teams for churning out such quality work from week to week.

It’s A Compelling Family Drama

As great as well-visualized TV action can be, it takes more than that to hook me into a show. Fortunately, Superman & Lois also stands out as a compelling family drama. There’s a reason there are two people in the title; Lois Lane is just as integral as Clark is, particularly through her investigative reporting. What’s equally as important is these two are parenting are parenting twin boys who are dealing with their own issues, and while I won’t spoil anything here, Season 3’s second episode threw an especially heartbreaking wrench into these four characters’ lives. We also get interesting stories from what’s going on with the Lang/Cushing family, as well as with Wolé Parks’ John Henry Irons (a.k.a. Steel) and his daughter Natalie, played by Tayler Buck.

The Main Cast Is Extremely Talented

A show won’t succeed if the actors aren’t good at their job, and Superman & Lois isn’t suffering from a shortage of talent. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch excel at playing Clark Kent and Lois Lane as a married couple, and I’ll go so far as to say that they have better chemistry together than the pairing of Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. Alex Garfin’s Jordan Kent and Michael Bishop’s Jonathan Kent (who was previously played by Jordan Elsass), along with the other actors playing teenagers on the show, do an amazing job of playing high schoolers in a way that doesn’t come off as stereotypical, and the other adult actors, including Sofia Hasmik’s Chrissy Beppo (who has a different dynamic with Hoechlin this season) and Dylan Walsh’s Sam Lane, are just as engaging bringing their characters to life.

The Villains Are Stellar

Although Superman has long had an impressive lineup of villains to battle on a frequent basis, Superman & Lois has made some unconventional choices with the antagonists it uses, and they’ve all been amazing. In Season 1, the man we initially knew as billionaire Morgan Edge turned out to be Kal-El’s half-brother Tal-Rho, and towards the end of the season, he briefly became The Eradicator. Then in Season 2, a menace many fans initially suspected to be Doomsday turned out be Bizarro Superman, but even then, he was taken off the board relatively quickly, and it was original character Ally Allston and her Bizarro self who were the true threats. Now we’re in Season 3, and not only has Chad L. Coleman’s Bruno Mannheim proven how intimidating he can be, we also have female version of Onomatopoeia by his side wreaking havoc. Superman & Lois has been on a stellar streak with its villains, and I’m even more excited to see Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor later this season.

The Standalone Nature Works To Its Benefit

As someone who’s been following the Arrowverse for the entirety of its existence, I’ll admit that I was taken aback when it was revealed in the Superman & Lois Season 2 finale that the show takes place on a different Earth, meaning that we’re not following along with same versions of Clark and Lois who were deposited into Earth-Prime after the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. But as I’ve thought more about it, this was the right move for the series. Even ignoring how the Arrowverse is a shadow of what it once was, it would’ve been daunting for some to get deeply invested in a show that was so heavily tied to this DC brand, particularly Supergirl. With Superman & Lois, there’s no need to catch up on any of these past shows. Just start with Episode 1 and you’re good to go, and you also never need to concern yourself about why Kara Zor-El doesn’t swoops in to help her cousin since she doesn’t exist in this universe.

New episodes of Superman & Lois air Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on The CW, and since we’re early into Season 3, there’s still some time to watch those first few episodes on the network’s website if you missed them. Major SPOILERS are ahead for the ending of Teen Wolf: The Movie, now streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. 

I should have prepared myself for this, but I was absolutely shocked when the big death happened on Teen Wolf: The Movie. I guess I should have known the franchise would raise the stakes for its big return since the 2017 finale, but killing off Tyler Hoechlin’s Derek Hale? What!?! After seeing the jaw-dropping ending to the film, CinemaBlend caught up with Tyler Posey about his thoughts on the big moment. 

Tyler Posey's Scott McCall and Tyler Hoechlin’s Derek Hale began and now end this werewolf journey together after over a decade as brothers in real life (figuratively) and on the series. Here is what Posey shared with us regarding the moment: 

Posey was struck by the decision as well, but ultimately called it something that was “necessary” to the story Teen Wolf: The Movie sought to tell. As the actor said, everyone has lost a loved one in one way or another, and people will be able to relate to the moment (sans all the supernatural werewolf stuff). Even so, RIP Derek Hale! 

The movie’s death was made more emotional by the fact that Derek Hale has a teen son/werewolf of his own that he won’t get to watch grow up. As Teen Wolf: The Movie came to an end though, it seems like Scott and some of his other buds in the show will help Eli with his wolf growing pains and life in Beacon Hills. 

Teen Wolf was Hoechlin first major role that put the actor on the map, but he’s since become the CW’s Superman and is set to reprise the role in Superman and Lois' coming third season. At least the actor’s presence in the movie allowed fans to get some closure about his character. Not all of the Teen Wolf cast decided to return for the movie. For example, Dylan O’Brien’s Stiles Stilinski is nowhere to be found in Teen Wolf: The Movie following a “difficult decision” from the actor not to reprise the role, and Arden Cho reportedly turned down returning due to a pay dispute, per The Cut. 

On the other hand, if there’s something else we learned from Teen Wolf: The Movie, it’s that dead characters don’t have to stay dead. The major premise of it was Allison Argent being revived after dying back in Season 3 and rekindling her romance with Scott. It’s a bit of an eye for an eye in that regard, but hey, they’re werewolves dealing with some pretty evil forces. If one was going to die, at least Derek Hale got a touching round of last moments. 

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Superman & Lois Season 2 episode “Worlds War Bizarre.” Read at your own risk!

With only one episode of Superman & Lois left until Season 2 is over, the situation isn’t looking good for our doting heroes. Ally Allston’s plan to merge Earth and Bizarro Earth is well underway, Clark still doesn’t have his powers back, and John Henry Irons is unconscious up in space somewhere. Jordan and Natalie (via her fancy super suit) are the only supers available to lend a hand in the final hour, and they’re going to need all the help they can get. I have a feeling they might get it thanks to the unexpected return of Bizarro. Or would it be the expected unreturn?

In any case, I have a strong feeling that, despite his assumed death, Bizarro will return to ultimately help save the day. I could be completely wrong, as it can go with Arrowverse predictions in any given year, but I feel like after "Worlds War Bizarre," there’s a bit of evidence to consider that foreshadows (or at least justifies the possibility of) his comeback. Let’s jump into the world of speculation, and try not to merge it too hard with reality, because merging stuff only makes for trouble this season.

Bizarro Jonathan Referenced Bizarro’s Death In The Penultimate Ep

It’s been a while since Bizarro died, so it’s understandable if he’s only an afterthought  to viewers as Superman & Lois prepares to close out Season 2, even with other Bizarro characters afoot. Maybe I’m overthinking things, but I found it strange when Bizarro Jonathan felt it necessary to mention his dead father in the latest episode. As if the writers specifically wanted to put that event back on everyone’s radar after a three-month absence. I could totally be reading too much into this, since it hasn't been that long relatively speaking, but it just seemed like an odd line to throw in there if that Tyler Hoechlin-portrayed persona is indeed staying dead. 

The Bizarro Sun Is Now On Earth

Much like Superman, Bizarro also gets his power from the sun. While I can’t claim to know every intricacy of the Arrowverse’s version of the character, seeing the Bizarro sun up in the sky made me wonder if somewhere, somehow, Bizarro can slowly start to regain his energy. Sure, he’s supposed to be dead, but the same has been true of Superman in many instances. (Not to mention plenty of other characters in The CW's superhero universe.) It’s possible Bizarro was just incredibly weak, and with this Bizarro Sun now shining bright in the sky, he could rebuild his strength and join the fight against Ally just when he is needed most. If Superman regenerates and heals with the power of the sun, wouldn’t it track this Arrowverse Bizarro could do the same? (Under the exact circumstances that would allow for it, of course.)

Bizarro Isn’t A True Bad Guy

Superman & Lois only revealed not long before his death that Bizarro wasn’t that evil after all. In fact, he was on Earth to stop Ally Allston, and while his methods were a bit extreme in the sense that he wanted to kill her, he had the right idea that stopping her was key. He’d likely be willing to lend a hand to the heroes in an attempt to save both worlds, and his recovery would allow Clark to sit on the sidelines and return to form on his own time. Assuming he’ll come back to life, I absolutely believe Bizarro would side with the "good" guys, as it were. 

Star Alex Garfin Teased ‘Big Twists’ In Superman & Lois' Finale 

Alex Garfin, whose character Jordan finally got to share his secret with Sarah, recently spoke to EW about the upcoming Season 2 finale. Garfin remained vague on what fans should expect in the Superman & Lois closer, but he did tease some surprises are on the way: 

I know that’s an incredibly vague quote to bet the Clark family farm on, but Bizarro’s resurrection would certainly be a big twist. And as mentioned previously, there aren’t too many superpowered heroes available right now to help Jordan and Natalie take on Ally. Granted, John Diggle is on the way after his somewhat disappointing appearance on The Flash, and he might have something up his sleeve, but even that eventuality doesn’t necessarily dissuade me from thinking Bizarro will return. Will it happen? Nothing can be known until the episode airs, but I’ve made my case and would love to see it happen. 

Superman & Lois’ Season 2 finale airs on The CW on Tuesday, June 28th at 8:00 p.m. ET. With the season-ending soon, now might be as good of a time as any to take a look at our new show guide, and find another new series to get into. 

It’s almost time for the series finale of Supergirl, which will mark the third Arrowverse entry to come to an end. While the series came into The CW's superhero stable a season late after debuting over on CBS, Supergirl was in crossover-mode from the jump thanks to a shared episode with The Flash's Grant Gustin. And now that the crossovers are coming to an end (potentially), star Melissa Benoist is looking back on her favorite Arrowverse mash-up memories.

Crossovers are some of the biggest events in the Arrowverse each year, with Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl comprising the core squad of characters. Melissa Benoist recently spoke to EW about Supergirl’s end and shared some fun recollections about bringing the comic book characters together. In her words:

It always seems like Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell had the best time filming their shared episodes together. Add in Tyler Hoechlin as the small screen's Man of Steel, and it’s even more costumed fun. The four stars were good about posting videos from set during each crossover's production, and even started up a running gag that Benoist would fall asleep while filming. 

Although Supergirl is ending, this doesn’t mean the crossovers and appearances have to stop. In fact, Chyler Leigh, who portrays Alex Danvers/Sentinel on the series, will appear in the upcoming “Armageddon” five-episode event on The Flash. This could mean that even more Supergirl stars, like Benoist, can still appear in future Arrowverse episodes, depending on how the series ends for their characters of course. 

Melissa Benoist also recently revealed whether she’d put on the cape again following the series finale, saying she’d love to appear on either The Flash or Superman & Lois. Considering she always has a great time filming with Grant Gustin and Tyler Hoechlin it’s not surprising that her favorite crossover memories include the two of them. Here's hoping Kara lives to see another day and another sun so that she can kick up some dust on Superman & Lois in a later season. 

Fingers crossed we get Benoist in one more crossover because she always looks like she’s having a blast. But in the meantime, you can get ready to watch the final two episodes of Supergirl airing Tuesday, November 9, on The CW at 8 p.m. EST! Superman & Lois may not be airing new episodes any time too soon, but there’s certainly some exciting news about the upcoming Season 2 of the Arrowverse’s newest superhero series. A Teen Wolf reunion is coming to the second season, with Tyler Hoechlin once again working with the man who played his uncle on the MTV series: Ian Bohen. And it already sounds like their characters won’t be the best of friends in the series. 

Ian Bohen, who played Peter Hale opposite Tyler Hoechlin’s Derek Hale on Teen Wolf, is on board Superman & Lois for a multi-episode arc. Deadline reports that Bohen is joining the series to play Mitch Anderson, a lieutenant at the DOD who has a different perspective. He sees the world in terms of the people who serve you and those whom you serve, and that view of the world means that he’s not a fan of Hoechlin’s Superman. After all, Superman doesn’t fit into either of those categories, and that won’t sit well with a man who values his authority and wants the Arrowverse’s Man of Steel under it. 

Well, just as Clark Kent/Superman has been a very different role for Tyler Hoechlin after years of playing werewolf Derek on Teen Wolf, Ian Bohen’s character sounds quite different from who he played on the MTV series. That said, it’s possible that their characters’ dynamic will be somewhat similar. After all, for all that Derek and Peter were werewolves in the same blood family, they weren’t exactly on the best of terms from premiere to finale, and it sounds like Superman and Lt. Anderson might not even be in the same book, let alone on the same page. 

Tyler Hoechlin seems pretty happy to be working with his former on-screen uncle again, however! The Superman & Lois star took to Instagram to confirm the news of Ian Bohen joining the show for Season 2, and he was all smiles as he revealed Bohen walking around the set. Take a look:

It’s hard to guess much about the plot from Tyler Hoechlin’s quick video revealing Ian Bohen on the set of Superman & Lois, but Hoechlin’s comments do make it sound like the show is pretty early in production on Season 2, which could mean that Bohen debuts early in the season. Perhaps even the premiere! Of course, the Season 2 premiere isn’t coming until midseason, but there’s still a lot for fans of both Superman & Lois and Teen Wolf to be excited about.

Teen Wolf fans also got some very exciting news recently, with the reveal that the show is coming back in the form of a Paramount+ movie. No names of returning cast members were officially announced when the news broke, and the teaser didn’t reveal any characters, but Ian Bohen posted the teaser on his own Instagram account with the caption of “The wolfs out of the bag,” so he may have been hinting that Peter Hale will have a part to play. Tyler Hoechlin did not post the teaser. 

Ian Bohen is also on the way back to television before he makes his Superman & Lois debut, as a series regular on Paramount’s Yellowstone, which returns for Season 4 on November 7. For a time in the TV world, a certain type of show took over, creating huge fan bases that exploded due to the amazing characters, fun stories, and many other factors, and those were fantasy shows, with monsters, magic, and so many other exciting stories. One of those shows that became huge just happened to be Teen Wolf.

This popular MTV teen drama helped plenty of actors make big names for themselves, such as Tyler Posey and Dylan O’Brien. But, since the show’s end in 2017, what exactly have these actors been up to? Here’s where you can see what the Teen Wolf cast has done, and what they plan to do next - and if they might pop up in any 2021 movies.

Tyler Posey (Scott McCall)

As the lead, Scott McCall, in Teen Wolf, everyone knew who Tyler Posey’s character was, and after his time as the teenage werewolf, Posey went on to star in a few films and TV shows. In terms of film, he had a role in the horror movie, Truth or Dare, the romantic comedy, The Last Summer, and the zombie film, Alone in 2020.

With television, Posey has taken his talents to guest star in several shows, such as Elena of Avalor, Hell’s Kitchen, Jane the Virgin, and more. He also has a recurring role in the comedy series, Now Apocalypse, and a main role in the anthology slasher series, Scream: Resurrection. Currently, he is voicing Tony Toretto in the animated series, Fast & Furious Spy Racers.

He is going to be in two upcoming films, titled Brut Force and Oshie, so keep an eye out for the former star of Teen Wolf in theaters soon enough.

Crystal Reed (Allison Argent)

While she was only on the series for three seasons, Allison Argent made an impact as a memorable character on Teen Wolf, as played by Crystal Reed. Since her appearance in the show, Reed has mainly kept her talents to TV. While she’s done a few films, such as Too Late and Ghostland, Reed has appeared in several TV series.

Crystal Reed had a guest role on Drop Dead Diva, but she also had a main role in Season 4 of the popular superhero series, Gotham, and a lead role in another superhero series, called Swamp Thing. Coming up, she’s going to appear in two films, called Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game and Dead Giveaway.

Dylan O’Brien (Stiles Stilinski)

I think everyone who watched Teen Wolf loved Stiles, and he was played by the loveable and talented Dylan O’Brien. Since his breakout role as Stiles on the show, O’Brien has been very active in both TV and movies.

In terms of film, O’Brien took on the lead role in the dystopian series, The Maze Runner, appearing in all of the films. He also had a role in the action thriller, American Assassin, the action film, Bumblebee, voicing the titular character, and had the leading role in the monster film, Love and Monsters. He also guest starred on the Apple TV+ series, Amazing Stories for an episode.

In the next couple of years, Dylan O’Brien is going to appear in at least two new films, the comedy Not Okay, and the crime drama, The Outfit. With how many movies he’s done since Teen Wolf ending, I can’t wait to see where he goes next with his awesome acting skills.

Tyler Hoechlin (Derek Hale)

On the show for four seasons, Tyler Hoechlin portrayed Derek Hale, a werewolf who had a bit of an attitude at first but grew on all of us. Hoechlin has appeared in a few of films since his role on the show, including Fifty Shades Freed, Then Came You, and the 2020 comedy Palm Springs, among others.

Hoechlin has also had some major success in television. After his role on Teen Wolf, he became a big part of the Arrowverse on the CW, playing Clark Kent - A.K.A. Superman. This would be a role he would play on several of the shows, including Batwoman, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and others. He now has his own show where he plays the lead, called Superman & Lois.

You might also recognize his voice, as he voiced Sephiroth in the Final Fantasy 7 remake that became super popular - so there’s truly no stopping this talented actor.

Holland Roden (Lydia Martin)

Another popular character on Teen Wolf was Lydia Martin, a popular and super smart girl with her own supernatural powers. Holland Roden portrayed her throughout the series, and has had a successful career post-Teen Wolf.

In terms of film, she had had a role in the horror movies No Escape and Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (which aren’t related to each other). She also had a role in Netflix crime drama, Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman in 2021.

For TV, Roden had a main role in horror anthology series, Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block, and currently has a recurring role on the FX Sons of Anarchy spinoff, Mayans M.C.. Coming up, she’s going to be in the film, The Re-Education of Molly Singer, so keep an eye out for her soon.

Colton Haynes (Jackson Whittemore)

Though only in the series for two seasons, Jackson was one of those characters that you really hated at first, but slowly started to realize that he just had a lot of issues he had work on. Colton Haynes played Jackson, and has mainly kept his talents on TV.

He did appear in the Dwayne Johnson-led film San Andreas, and in the comedy-drama, Bigger, but had a main role in the show Arrow, as well as a recurring role in the popular Ryan Murphy anthology series, American Horror Story, in the season subtitled, Cult. He also had a guest role in two episodes of Scream Queens.

Shelley Hennig (Malia Tate)

Malia Tate played Shelley Hennig in Teen Wolf, and since her role in the series (from Season 3-6), she’s had quite the career in both TV and film. Tate appeared in movies such as the comedy When We First Met, and the Netflix film, The After Party.

Tate has also appeared in several TV series, with a main role in Liberty Crossing, and guest parts on Dollface, Mythic Quest, an others. Coming up, she’s going to appear in two films, Gatlopp and Bibi, and two television shows, Crazy For You and The Woman in the House, so she has quite the line-up coming over the next couple of years.

Arden Cho (Kira Yukimura)

Okay, let’s be honest, we all loved Kira’s amazing swordsmanship skills, and I, for one, miss them. Arden Cho portrayed the young woman in Teen Wolf, and has been active since her time on the show.

Cho has mainly stuck to television roles, appearing in several series. This includes, but is not limited to, main role in Tween Fest and Season 2 of Miss 2059, recurring roles on Freakish and in the medical drama Chicago Med.

Soon, she is going to have a main part in a television series called Partner Track, as well as a television movie called The Selection, and two new films, called Joon and Flexx.

Dylan Sprayberry (Liam Dunbar)

Liam is another character I believe we all grew to like, and he was played by Dylan Sprayberry in Teen Wolf. Since his appearance in the show, Sprayberry was in the film The Row, as well as Lost Girls: Angie’s Story.

He’s also had a main role in the Hulu original horror series, Light as a Feather, where he played Henry Richmond. Coming up, he will be appearing in two films, one called Malibu Horror Story and the other called Sick, so it seems we can look forward to seeing more of Dylan Sprayberry soon.

Linden Ashby (Sheriff Noah Stilinski)

For every fan-favorite character, there’s always a parent figure that we can root for, as well, and that was Sheriff Noah Stilinski in Teen Wolf. Linden Ashby played Noah in the series, mainly sticking to television roles post his popular role in the show.

Ashby had a recurring role on Lifeline, and a recurring roles on Trinkets as Whit Foster. He also appeared in the television films A Daughter’s Revenge, and Escaping My Stalker. Most recently, he had a guest appearance in NCIS: New Orleans, alongside the NCIS: New Orleans cast. His next project is going to be a film called Trust, so be sure to check out if he’s going to pop up in theaters sometime soon.

Melissa Ponzio (Melissa McCall)

Scott’s mother in Teen Wolf, Melissa, was honestly a life-saver - literally. I can’t recall how many times she saved the pack because that’s just how badass she was. That kind of badass could only be played by Melissa Ponzio, who has had much success after her role in Teen Wolf.

With movies, she was in Max and Me and the Netflix original film, Thunder Force, starring Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer. With TV, she’s had a recurring role (since 2014) playing Donna Robbins-Boden in Chicago Fire, and has appeared in two television films, Cheerleader Nightmare and Killer Reputation. She also appeared in First Wives Club, and had a guest role in both Everything’s Fine and Bridgewater.

JR Bourne (Chris Argent)

Last but not least, we take a look at JR Bourne, who played Chris Argent in Teen Wolf, Allison’s father - the expert werewolf hunter.

Bourne has done a lot of short films since Teen Wolf ended, but has also appeared in several TV shows. He had a main role on Somewhere Between, and a recurring role in Falling Water, but one of his biggest roles was playing Russell Lighbourne VII (later Malachi) in one of the best CW shows, The 100. He also currently has a recurring role on Mayans M.C. on FX, and appeared in On the Verge.

With a cast this big and talented, it’s not a surprise that they’ve been working so hard and appearing in so many movies and television shows. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

Even though Superman & Lois premiered on The CW earlier this year, Tyler Hoechlin has been playing the Arrowverse's Man of Steel since he first appeared on Supergirl back in 2016 for Season 2. While the actor has proven he is a perfect Clark Kent, Hoechlin recently revealed that he'd actually always wanted to play Batman, but thinks he probably lucked out by landing the hero role that he did.

It’s hard to imagine Tyler Hoechlin as a superhero other than Superman, considering he plays the part so well, both with and without Clark's signature spectacles. However, Hoechlin admitted to Men’s Health that he actually wanted to play the Dark Knight for the longest time growing up. But now that he’s Superman, missing out on Batman couldn’t have worked out better for his acting mindset. He explained:

It seems that growing up and wanting to portray Batman wasn't meant to end in such dreams being fulfilled for the Teen Wolf alum, but playing Superman ended up working out far better for him, as he's now co-starring in his own spinoff show that he originally didn’t even want. Superman and Lois has proven to be a big success for The CW, too, both with its impressive first-year numbers and with fans and critics. Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal of the Daily Planet journalist is not precisely like any other live-action portrayal, either, as he didn’t want to look back at how Clark Kent and Superman were previously handled across film and TV.

However, all this does make you wonder what Batman would be like had he been played by Tyler Hoechlin, whether for a movie or as the yet-to-be-introduced Arrowverse version. Of course, even though Hoechlin is indeed Superman in the Arrowverse, it’s possible that he can still play a version of Bruce Wayne on The CW. Despite the multiverse no longer existing thanks to the last "Crisis" crossover, the different worlds are still being referenced when they pertain to a current storyline, like John Henry Irons. Who knows? There have been multiple versions of just about everybody in the comic-inspired universe, so who says there can’t be more versions coming down the line?

In the meantime, fans are thoroughly enjoying Superman & Lois and how Tyler Hoechlin has taken up the mantle from past Superman actors like Dean Cain and Henry Cavill. He has definitely proven he’s more than capable to play anyone in the Justice League, at least the "buff dude" characters, and if getting into the Batman mindset at an early age is what helped him stay out of his own way while taking on the Superman role, then so be it. Being aware of who you’re playing isn’t always the greatest thing and having fun and making the character your own is what matters and why Clark Kent works so well for Hoechlin.

Superman and Lois will return for its final two episodes on The CW on Tuesday, August 10, and Tuesday, August 17, at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Superman & Lois episode "O Mother, Where Art Thou?" Read at your own risk!

Superman & Lois threw quite a curveball at viewers in its previous episode by revealing that well-known DC villain Morgan Edge wasn't a traditional take on the comic character. It turns out he's a Kryptonian within the Arrowverse, and while I'd assumed he was speaking metaphorically when he referred to Kal-El as "brother," this week's installment revealed with evidence that the two characters actually are blood-related.

Morgan Edge's real name is Tar-Ro, and he is the son of Zeta-Ro and Lara. That's right, Tar-Ro's mother is the same Kryptonian who birthed Superman, and was genetically paired with Zeta-Ro early on in a form of an arranged marriage. The couple had a son, obviously, and Lara eventually left Zeta-Ro to be with Jor-El. Obviously, Kal-El wasn't aware of this since as he was still a baby when he was sent to Earth, but Zeta-Ro was very aware of his brother from the same mother.

Like Superman, Tar-Ro was also shipped off of Earth as a young child. Unlike the future Clark Kent, though, he wound up on the British countryside and was hunted by locals until eventually being captured and contained by the government. Tar-Ro was experimented on for years in darkness before sunlight shining through a window allowed him to regain his powers and escape. His experience birthed a deep disgust for humanity and strengthened his resolve to restore Krypton and its people.

In the present, Edge was working towards that goal via a device that could transfer a Kryptonian consciousness into a non-Kryptonian host. Said device was actually invented by Lara, but it was later confirmed when her consciousness was transferred into the body of Lana Lang, her intentions for the device were not for it to be used in such nefarious ways. Lara also told Clark that the time it would take for the overall process to be completed meant there was still a chance to reverse the process and save the various infected residents of Smallville that were now part of Edge's Kryptonian army.

Superman did just that, naturally, but what's perhaps more important is that Superman & Lois fully confirmed that Morgan Edge's revamped origin story was 100% accurate within the Arrowverse. I'm typically one to doubt the stories that villains tell, especially when they fly in the face of what we know from preestablished Superman lore, but both Lara and Jor-El's AI at the Fortress of Solitude confirmed the existence of both Lara's previous marriage and of Tar-Ro.

Jor-El also specifically mentioned he didn't believe the existence of Tar-Ro would've been relevant knowledge for Superman to know as part of his Earthly upbringing, so it can be assumed that neither Jor-El nor Lara knew that Tar-Ro was sent to Earth before Krypton's destruction. Thus we now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Edge is 100% Superman's half-brother, but we'll have to see whether or not that impacts how Superman deals with him going forward. I'm assuming the Man of Steel won't go all rogue as John Henry Irons predicted, but one has to wonder if Superman has what it takes to take his only known surviving biological relative down.

Superman & Lois airs on The CW on Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET. The superhero series' curveballs keep coming, and they've all been great so far. Speaking of which, I still haven't given up on my theory that Jordan doesn't actually have powers, though this theory is admittedly getting weaker with each episode that comes out.

Superman & Lois quickly got off to a strong start on The CW, both with regards to pulling in a number of early viewers and when it comes to its rapidly developing story. After only two episodes, Lois, Clark, and their twin sons, have already had to leave Metropolis behind (along with the couple's jobs at the Daily Planet) to move to Smallville, and encountered some trouble with the locals, while Superman and Lois are already doing battle with two very capable trouble-makers. Now, star Tyler Hoechlin is opening up about why some aspects of the villain story will "unfold differently."

The man who appears to be our only super-powered Big Bad right now (even if those powers do come from a high tech suit of armor) has been revealed to be Captain Luthor. We don't know yet what this Luthor's full deal will be, but he has already confirmed that he's from another world. Plus, Episode 2 showed some of his history and why he hates Superman so much, and it's meant that he might not be as much of a bad guy as we originally thought. When asked by TV Line if that reveal will take the new Arrowverse series into some familiar villain territory, Tyler Hoechlin said:

Alright, so while it's already up in the air as to whether or not Captain Luthor is really another Arrowverse Lex (we currently have a different one on Supergirl), Tyler Hoechlin was, specifically talking about the Episode 2 reveal of evil Superman. In the final moments, after Luthor talks to General Lane, we see his memory of fighting alongside a version of the general from his own, destroyed, world with a whole team who are battling a black-suited Superman. This Kal-El is not at all kind-hearted and helpful, and pretty quickly uses his laser vision to mow down the army, with Luthor as the only survivor.

Obviously, we last saw an evil Superman in the 2018 Arrowverse "Elseworlds" crossover, but that turned out to be an imposter, and not the real Superman gone bad at all. But, as Hoechlin noted, with regards to both Luthor and the evil Last Son of Krypton, Superman & Lois really can take a lot of different paths, simply because of the position which the show finds itself in as the first new Arrowverse series to debut after the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover destroyed the previous multiverse (and several worlds), and began a new one.

At the end of that event, literally everyone and everything was destroyed for a time, until Oliver Queen and the Paragons were able to create a new multiverse and bring people back, but with a lot of changes. It seems that the version of evil Superman which Captain Luthor is desperate to stop our Clark from becoming was, indeed, a real Kryptonian who used his power for his own gain, so it makes complete sense that once Luthor was integrated into this new multiverse, he'd assume that any Superman is a bad Superman.

However things progress with Captain Luthor, Tyler Hoechlin is eager to find out more about what led to that world's black-suited Superman in the first place, and noted:

Is this a hint that something actually might turn our lovely Clark into an evil, world-dominating dictator? We can keep up with the evolving situation on Superman & Lois, as it airs Tuesdays on The CW, at 9 p.m. EST.

Superman & Lois has been a long time coming, starting with Tyler Hoechlin's debut as Clark Kent/Superman over on Supergirl and expanding with the introduction of Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, and then the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" twist turning them into the parents of a pair of teenage boys. There was always the question of Superman's nemesis on the new show when Supergirl had already debuted so many Arrowverse versions of traditionally Superman villains. Well, the Superman & Lois series premiere found a way to deliver a big bad with a familiar name in a new way thanks to a villain twist, and the showrunner and star opened up about it. Prepare to see some Luthor action!

Superman was up against a mysterious foe in the series premiere, who tested Superman's strength with nuclear reactors and took advantage of the Man of Steel's inability to see through lead for a confrontation. The baddie shared that his world was destroyed, but he managed to survive and arrive on Earth, only to discover that Superman was there too.

The foe didn't show his face in the confrontation, and the premiere technically didn't address him by his full name, but what the episode did deliver is more than enough for some speculation. His ship addressed him as "Captain Luthor," and pretty much anybody familiar with Superman lore or the Supergirl series knows that Lex Luthor is an iconic villain. This mysterious Superman & Lois character is played by Wolé Parks, while Supergirl's Lex Luthor was played by Jon Cryer, so there are still a lot of questions to be answered.

Fortunately, CinemaBlend's Nick Venable was on hand at the TCA panel for Superman & Lois, and both showrunner Todd Helbing and star Tyler Hoechlin weighed in on the last-minute Luthor surprise, with Helbing saying:

Notably, neither the series premiere nor the showrunner explicitly confirmed that Wolé Parks' "Captain Luthor" is another version of Lex Luthor, and versions of the same character coming from different worlds are usually (but not always) doppelgangers played by the same actors in the Arrowverse. Still, the massive "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover rewrote a lot of rules (and a lot of Arrow) of the Arrowverse, and this Luthor apparently comes from an entirely different world. Todd Helbing isn't kidding when he talks about mysteries and doing things differently!

Doing things that are "fresh and new" in a multi-show TV universe that has been expanding for the better part of a decade now is no small deal, and star Tyler Hoechlin didn't spoil any secrets about what Superman & Lois has in store for viewers now that it is officially part of The CW's lineup, saying:

Tyler Hoechlin may have all the details, but it might take more than kryptonite for him to drop any spoilers before Superman & Lois makes the big reveals. That said, Captain Luthor actor Wolé Parks did speak out abaout his character. Parks didn't confirm any details either, including whether or not his character is indeed another version of Lex who is simply very different from the Jon Cryer version. Still, he shared that there are more layers to his character than just playing the bad guy to Superman's good guy. When asked by press at the TCA panel about playing this mysterious man for Superman & Lois, Parks explained:

At the very least, the actor's comments indicate that Superman & Lois isn't going to keep viewers hanging for too long as to what this Captain Luthor means for Superman, and what his plans are! He may be the hero of his own story, but any character who shows up to attack the Man of Steel and desire for more kryptonite is pretty clearly going to be the bad guy of a Superman story.

The coveted and much-celebrated chance to portray Superman on screen has been passed down for many generations, with the most recent recipient being Tyler Hoechlin (on TV, at least). Years after making his debut as the Man of Steel on the second season of Supergirl, the actor is now leading his own DC Comics-inspired TV shows, along with Elizabeth Tulloch reprising her role a his wife and other exciting talents in the Superman and Lois cast.

The latest series installment of the Arrowverse, premiering on The CW on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, is following in the footsteps of ABC’s hit romantic drama Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which starred Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher as the titular duo in the 1990s. In addition to focusing on Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s professional lives (a double life for Kryptonian, that is) upon their return to Smallville, Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing’s show will shed light on their more personal struggles. For instance, the couple have two children to look after now named Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin).

That actually raises a few questions. For one, who really is the Kents’ new other son, and secondly, why do those young actors look so familiar, too? While we have yet to answer that first puzzle, the second question (and more) will be answered in the following breakdown of what the cast of Superman and Lois have been up to before the highly anticipated series, starting with TV’s latest Last Son of Krypton.

Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman)

Before becoming the Arrowverse’s (main) Superman, Tyler Hoechlin broke out in a much different kind of comic book role as Tom Hanks’ son in Road to Perdition - Sam Mendes’ 2002 adaptation of Max Allan Collins and Richard Piers Rayner’s graphic novel. That was followed by a recurring part on 7th Heaven, playing an alpha lycanthrope on MTV’s darker series reboot of Teen Wolf, and a best-selling author in Fifty Shades Freed in 2018. He also got to live out his baseball background in Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!, romanced Alexandra Daddario in Can You Keep a Secret?, and played a deceptively romantic groom in Palm Springs more recently.

Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane)

From her debut in R2-D2: Beneath the Dome - a 2002 mockumentary about the life of the beloved droid outside of Star Wars - to about halfway through her run as a veterinarian turned beastly witch on NBC’s hit adult bedtime story, Grimm, Elizabeth Tulloch was known professionally as Bitsie Tulloch. The actress, who makes up the “better half” of Superman and Lois’ titular romantic duo, was also credited by that nicknamed (passed down from her World War II vet grandfather) in some of her best known film roles, such as in 2008’s Lakeview Terrace, 2012’s silent Best Picture Oscar winner The Artist, and the 2015 biopic Concussion opposite Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu.

Jordan Elsass (Jonathan Kent)

Just like in the comics, Clark and Lois have a son named Jonathan, who may assume his costumed alter ego Superboy at some point on Superman and Lois, on which he is played by Jordan Elsass. The 19-year-old actor first made a name for himself as a writer and star of the web-based sketch comedy series Keepin’ It Weird TV when he was just 13 and went on to star in low budget films and shorts before landing the part of Reese Witherspoon’s son on the Hulu original miniseries Little Fires Everywhere. The Austin-born performer is also said to be starring in Amazon Studios’ series adaptation of the YA novel Panic and the upcoming made-for-TV western movie Billy and the Bandit.

Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent)

Unlike the comics, Clark and Lois have a second son (following the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover) named Jordan, whose future could go in all kinds of directions on Superman and Lois, on which he is played by Alex Garfin. The young actor made his feature film debut in the 2010 Angelina Jolie-led action thriller Salt when he was just 5 after playing the first of two different roles he would be cast as on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. His biggest role to date before landing his part on the Arrowverse series would have to be as the voice of Linus in The Peanuts Movie in 2015.

Stacey Farber (Leslie)

While playing Leslie on Superman and Lois is likely her biggest claim to fame among American audiences thus far, Stacey Farber is quite well known in her homeland of Canada. The 33-year-old actress, like many other young aspiring performers from the Great White North, broke out on Degrassi: The Next Generation along with Aubrey Graham, who would grow up to become rapper Drake and cast her and other alumni of teen drama in the video for his 2018 single “I’m Upset.” Farber has also appeared in guest spots on the Emmy-winning sitcom gem Schitt’s Creek and TNT’s series adaptation of Animal Kingdom, to name a few.

Adam Rayner (Morgan Edge)

Taking over the role of corrupt former business CEO Morgan Edge, previously portrayed in the Arrowverse by Adrian Pasdar, is Adam Rayner, who has found success on television both in States and in his homeland of the United Kingdom. The 43-year-old actor is probably best known as the lead of the short-lived FX drama Tyrant, in which he plays a father whose American family gets caught up in his brother’s oppressive political affairs in a fictional Middle Eastern country. Rayner has also appeared in guest spots on series like Doctor Who and had a starring role on TNT’s medical drama Hawthorne led by Jada Pinkett Smith.

Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang Cushing)

Taking over the role of Lana Lang in the Arrowverse, previously portrayed in a different continuity on Smallville by Kristin Kreuk, is Emmanuelle Chriqui, who has led an eclectic career since the mid-1990s. Even if you do not recognize the 45-year-old actress’ name, you may recognize her face from movies like the 2003 horror flick Wrong Turn or the raunchy 2005 Ryan Reynolds-led comedy Waiting… and TV series like The O.C. or Entourage and its theatrically released sequel in 2015. More recently, Chiriqui poked fun at her origins from Montreal, Quebec, in 2018’s Super Troopers 2 and will also appear in Die in a Gunfight - a modern day crime thriller inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing)

Starring as Lana Lang Cushing’s fire chief husband, Kyle, on Superman and Lois, is Erik Valdez, who spent much of the early days of his career in uncredited nameless TV roles like “Jock” on The O.C., “Frat Boy #2” on CSI: Miami, or two appearances on New Girl as “D. Bag” and “Douchebag #2.” Eventually, by 2012, he would land a starring role on General Hospital, a recurring role on the USA crime drama Graceland, and also appears alongside Giancarlo Esposito in the sixth installment of the popular Far Cry video game franchise.

Inde Navarette (Sarah Cushing)

Starring as Lana Lang Cushing’s teenage daughter, Sarah, on Superman and Lois is Inde Navarette, who first debuted in an 18-minute, Amazon Studios-produced short film Cross Words Together in 2018, a year before before landing a starring role on Denton’s Death Date - a teen comedy series exclusively available on Snapchat. The 23-year-old actress’ truly big break would come when she joined the cast of the hit Netflix original drama 13 Reasons Why in its fourth and final season as Estela, the younger sister of convicted rapist Montgomery “Monty” de la Cruz.

Joselyn Picard (Sophie Cushing)

Starring as Lana Lang Cushing’s younger daughter, Sophie, on Superman and Lois is Joselyn Picard, who is making her first credited role on the CW original series. The young actress, originally born in Barcelona, Spain, had previously appeared in the uncredited role of Adam Irigoyen’s unnamed little sister on Away - the short-lived Netflix original space travel series starring Hilary Swank.

Dylan Walsh (General Sam Lane)

Taking over the role of Lois’ father and devoted army general Sam Lane, previously portrayed on the Arrowverse by Glenn Morshower, on Superman and Lois is Dylan Walsh, who is making his comic book character debut on the CW original series. The 57-year-old actor, originally born in Los Angeles, California, is best known on the big screen for films like 1995’s Michael Crichton novel adaptation Congo or as the titular antagonist of the 2009 remake of The Stepfather and on the small screen from recurring roles on Blue Bloods or Longmire and as plastic surgeon Sean McNamara on Nip/Tuck - a Golden Globe-winning FX drama from creator Ryan Murphy. The year 2021 will also see him play a paranoid author who fears he is being hunted by his own character in the film Alter Ego and you can watch him on the shockingly timely post-apocalyptic web series An Incomplete Education from Radiant Studios’ official website.

I find it interesting how many previously established Arrowverse characters have been recast for Superman and Lois. I suppose they can rely on the Crisis on Infinite Earths to put any further questions about that to rest. Otherwise, based on the talented cast alone, this new series is shaping up to something real super.

After a long wait and numerous series chocked full of DC heroes, The CW is finally giving the biggest hero his own show in the Arrowverse. Now, as the series gears up for its inaugural run on the network, Superman & Lois co-lead Tyler Hoechlin has admitted that, at first, he wasn't even sure if a Man of Steel-centric series was something he was interested in.

The actor made the shocking revelation in an interview with Den of Geek when speaking about when he was first cast to play Superman on Supergirl in 2016. The CW had no plans for Superman at the time, and Tyler Hoechlin admitted he was completely fine with that:

Tyler Hoechlin would do other things, but as many Arrowverse fans are aware, it was not a one-and-done appearance. Hoechlin would play key parts in crossovers in the years that followed, with his co-star, Elizabeth Tulloch, making her debut in Elseworlds. Both actors returned for Crisis On Infinite Earths, which of course, set the stage for them to star in Superman & Lois.

That's quite a turnaround for a star who thought he was going to be a one-off appearance, but it's hard to blame Tyler Hoechlin for changing his mind along the way. The actor originally auditioned for the part ahead of DC's Man of Steel and, while he didn't get that role, he's had more opportunities to portray Superman than Henry Cavill.

And while Tyler Hoechlin may have already had a hankering to play Superman ahead of taking the meeting with Supergirl, the actor said it was the "shamelessly optimistic and hopeful" tone of the show that drew him in. Hoechlin has done a good job of maintaining that character (when he isn't changed by any book), so it will be interesting to see if Superman & Lois presents that same optimistic tone with Clark and his family. Raising teenage boys can be rough, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if his two sons make the Man of Steel, at the very least, a bit frustrated in this first season.

Everything has to come to an end. In 2018, only a few short years after it began in 2015, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie franchise concluded with Fifty Shades Freed, the third installment in the steamy trilogy, thus bringing Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey's tale to its final climax. While the series wasn't meant to last, the careers of its two main stars, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, continues to evolve in many expanding and bountiful ways.

Let's take a peek and see what the Fifty Shades of Grey cast is doing now.

Dakota Johnson (Anastasia "Ana" Steele)

As Anastasia "Ana" Steele, a shy-natured English major who forms an intensely sexual romantic relationship with billionaire bachelor Christian Grey, Dakota Johnson found her breakthrough role at the forefront of the Fifty Shades trilogy. Making her film debut at age 10 with Crazy in Alabama, Johnson's other notable movie roles include The Social Network, How to Be Single, A Bigger Splash, Black Mass, 21 Jump Street, Need for Speed, and The Five-Year Engagement. Following her work in the Fifty Shades movies, Johnson starred in Suspiria (2018), Bad Times at the El Royale, Wounds, and The Peanut Butter Falcon.

Most recently, Dakota Johnson acted in The High Note and this past weekend's Our Friend. Next, she'll be seen in The Nowhere Inn and Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Lost Daughter. Outside of acting, Johnson directed Coldplay's "Cry Cry Cry" music video. She's also starring in Elaine May's Crackpot, and she'll produce and star in Forever, Interrupted, Unfit, Queens of the Stoned Age, the limited series, Cult Following, and the mockumentary series, Rodeo Queens.

Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey)

In the role of Christian Grey, the young (and very handsome) billionaire, entrepreneur, and CEO who forms an unconventional romantic relationship with Anastasia, Jamie Dornan plays our beefy and tormented male lead in the Fifty Shades trilogy. Previously a model, Dornan first gained recognition for his work in The Fall, Once Upon a Time, and Marie Antoinette. His other notable credits include Anthropoid, The Siege of Jadotville, and New Worlds. Outside of these movies, the actress can be seen in Law & Order: SVU, Starz's Crash, Lone Star, The River, Christmas with Holly, Just in Time For Christmas, So Undercover, and In the Blood.

Following her time in the Fifty Shades series, Eloise Mumford starred in Hallmark Channel's A Veteran's Christmas. She also appeared in Standing Up, Falling Down, and the mini-series, Horse's Mouth. Additionally, she had a recurring role in Chicago Fire. Most recently, Mumford was seen in Disney+'s The Right Stuff.

Jennifer Ehle (Carla Wilks)

In the role of Carla Wilks, Anastasia's mother, Jennifer Ehle plays a loving character in the Fifty Shades movies. Most notably, Ehle won a BAFTA for her performance in the 1995 BBC mini-series, Pride and Prejudice. She also won two Tony awards for her Broadway roles in 2000's The Real Thing and 2007's The Coast of Utopia, respectively. On the big screen, Ehle is recognizable for her work in Contagion, Zero Dark Thirty, A Little Chaos, The King's Speech, A Quiet Passion, Little Men, Wilde, Sunshine (1999), RoboCop (2014), The Adjustment Bureau, and Detroit. Following her time in the Fifty Shades movies, the actress appeared in Vox Lux, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, I Kill Giants, Take Point, The Wolf Hour, The Professor and the Madman, Wetlands, Monster (2018), and Hulu's The Looming Tower.

Most recently, Jennifer Ehle was seen in Run This Town and Showtime's The Comey Rule. Next, she'll appear in Saint Maud, John and the Hole, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies, which screened at TIFF.

Marcia Gay Harden (Dr. Grace Trevelyan-Grey)

As Dr. Grace Trevelyan-Grey, Christian's adoptive mother, Marcia Gay Harden plays a prominent supporting character in the Fifty Shades series, especially in the sequels. Most notably, the actress is known for Pollock, for which she was Oscar-nominated, Mystic River, Used Cars, The First Wives Club, Flubber, Into the Wild, and The Mist. Harden was also Tony-nominated for Angels in America and God of Carnage. Additionally, she appeared in The Newsroom and The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler. During her time in Fifty Shades, Harden starred in CBS's Code Black. Following her role in Fifty Shades Freed, Harden was seen in Point Blank and Lifetime's Love You to Death. She was also heard in BoJack Horseman.

Most recently, Marcia Gay Harden appeared in National Geographic's Barkskins. The actress also guest-starred in A Million Little Things and played a recurring role in The Morning Show. Next, she'll be seen in Amy Poehler's Moxie, which premieres on Netflix on March 3rd. Additionally, Harden will star in Pink Skies Ahead, which was screened at October's AFI Fest.

Victor Rasuk (Jose Rodriguez)

Playing the part of Jose Rodriguez, Anastasia's friend, Victor Rasuk plays a notable supporting character in the Fifty Shades movies. Some of Rasuk's other notable credits include How to Make It in America, Lords of Dogtown, Stalker, Jobs, ER, Godzilla (2014), Law & Order: SVU, Stop-Loss, Colony, Being Flynn, Che, and Raising Victor Vargas. After the Fifty Shades franchise, Rasuk appeared in The Mule. He also played a recurring role in Amazon Prime's Jack Ryan.

Luke Grimes (Elliot Grey)

In the role of Elliot Grey, Christian's adopted brother, Luke Grimes played a prominent supporting role in the Fifty Shades movies. Outside of this performance, Grimes is known for American Sniper. His other notable film credits include All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Taken 2, Freeheld, The Magnificent Seven (2016), and El Camino Christmas. Rita Ora (Mia Grey)

As Mia Grey, Christian's adopted younger sister, musician Rita Ora played a notable supporting role in the Fifty Shades movies. As a musician, Ora is one of the most famous solo acts to come out of the U.K. in recent years. Her chart-topping tracks include "Let Me Love You," "Anywhere," "How We Do (Party)," and "R.I.P." She also performed "For You," which is on Fifty Shades Freed's soundtrack. Her other acting credits include Fast & Furious 6, Spivs, Southpaw, and The Brief. Additionally, she was a coach on The Voice UK, a judge on The X Factor, and the host of Boy Band and America's Next Top Model.

Following her time in Fifty Shades, Rita Ora appeared in Detective Pikachu. Currently, she's a panelist for Masked Singer UK and a coach for The Voice Australia. Next, Ora stars in Wonderwell and Twist. Also, she's currently working on her third studio album.

Callum Keith Rennie (Ray Steele)

Playing the part of Ray Steele, Anatasia's father, Callum Keith Rennie played a familial supporting character in the Fifty Shades trilogy. Most notably, Rennie is known for Battlestar Galactica and Californication. He has several other notable movies and TV credits to his name, including Blade: Trinity, Memento, eXistenZ, Warcraft, Jigsaw, The L Word, The Killing, Longmire, and The Man in the High Castle.

Following his time in the Fifty Shades movies, Callum Keith Rennie played a recurring role in Netflix's Jessica Jones. Most recently, he appeared in YouTube Premium's Impulse.

Eric Johnson (Jack Hyde)

In the role of Jack Hyde, Ana's boss and stalker, Eric Johnson played a menacing part in Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Most notably, Johnson is known for Flash Gordon, Smallville, and Rookie Blue. He was also part of the main cast for The Knick and Caught, and he appears in Criminal Minds, Orphan Black, The Alienist, and Saving Hope. Meanwhile, Johnson's other film credits include Legends of the Fall, Texas Rangers, and Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. Following this franchise's finale, Johnson was seen in A Simple Favor.

Kim Basinger (Elena Lincoln)

As Elena Lincoln, Christian's business partner and former romantic partner, Kim Basinger had a starry supporting role in Fifty Shades Darker. She also cameoed in Fifty Shades Freed. Most famously, Basinger won the Oscar for L.A. Confidential. Her other notable film credits include 9 1/2 Weeks, Batman, Nadine, The Natural, Never Say Never Again, Cellular, Wayne's World 2, 8 Mile, The Nice Guys, The Door in the Floor, Cool World, The Informers, Charlie St. Cloud, and My Stepmother is an Alien, to name only a few. Bella Heathcote (Leila Williams)

Playing the part of Leila Williams, one of Christian's former submissives, Bella Heathcote had one of her most high-profile roles in Fifty Shades Darker. Most notably, the actress is known for Dark Shadows, The Neon Demon, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman, and The Man in the High Castle. She also had a recurring role in Neighbors. Her other notable film credits include In Time, Not Fade Away, The Curse of Downers Grove, Beneath Hill 60, and The Rewrite. Additionally, she had a main part in CBS All Access' Strange Angel.

Most recently, Bella Heathcote starred in Relic and Stan's Bloom. She also guest-starred in Awkwafina is Nora from Queens. Next, she'll appear in Pieces of Her.

Arielle Kebbel (Gia Matteo)

In the role of Gia Matteo, the architect who's recommended to design Anastasia and Christian's future home, Arielle Kebbel plays a brief but memorable supporting role in Fifty Shades Freed. Following this trilogy-capper, Kebbel starred in Another Time and Hallmark's A Brush with Love. She also played a recurring role in Grand Hotel.

Arielle Kebbel's other notable film credits include John Tucker Must Die, American Pie Presents: Band Camp, Aquamarine, The Uninvited, Think Like a Man, The Grudge 2, Be Cool, and Soul Plane. On television, Kebbel played main parts in Ballers, Life Unexpected, and Midnight Texas. She also played recurring roles in Gilmore Girls, The Vampire Diaries, and 90210. Most recently, Kebbel starred in NBC's Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector. Next, she'll be seen in After We Fell.

Tyler Hoechlin (Boyce Fox)

As Boyce Fox, a popular author, Tyler Heochlin plays a minor role in Fifty Shades Freed. Most notably, Hoechlin is known for MTV's Teen Wolf. He also plays Superman in the Arrowverse, notably Supergirl. Additionally, Hoechlin had a prominent role in 7th Heaven. His other notable credits include Road to Perdition, Everybody Wants Some!!, Hall Pass, and Undrafted. Following his work in Fifty Shades Freed, Hoechlin was seen in The Domestics, Bigger, Then Came You, and Can You Keep A Secret?

Most recently, Tyler Hoechlin appeared in Palm Springs and Crisis on Infinite Earths. He's also heard in Final Fantasy VIII Remake. Next, Hoechlin will reprise his role as Superman in The CW's Superman and Lois.

Tyler Hoechlin made his small screen debut as the Man of Steel back in the second season of Supergirl in 2016, and he's now just a few short months away from the premiere of his own Superman TV show on The CW. With the arrival of Superman & Lois as the latest installment in the Arrowverse (which got smaller in 2020) will come the arrival of a new suit fit for a superhero leading man, and Hoechlin is pumped about it.

Along with the release of the first good look at the Superman & Lois suit (seen below), Tyler Hoechlin sharred his thoughts on what he'll be wearing as The CW's Man of Steel:

Superman & Lois won't be Lois & Clark 2.0 or Smallville: The Golden Years or any other take on Superman that has hit the airwaves before. According to Tyler Hoechlin, a unique point in the character's life deserves a unique suit. And seriously, how Superman of a response was it to say that the suit belongs to everyone who finds meaning in the symbol? A+ casting, Arrowverse!

According to Superman suit designer Laura Jean Shannon, the goal was to use athletic inspired boots and use a new neckline and cape for Tyler Hoechlin's version of the character "to maximize the billowing and movement we all love to see in the books and films that have defined this character for generations." As for Tyler Hoechlin, he continued sharing his perspective on the suit, including what it means to him with his personal history. Hoechlin said:

Tyler Hoechlin played baseball throughout high school and college, but ended up pursuing acting as his career, and it really seems like he was perfectly cast as Clark Kent/Superman. His version already proved that he can work with a team during the mega "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover that closed a chapter of the Arrowverse and began a whole new one. With Supergirl ending in the same TV season that Superman & Lois is premiering, Clark may wind up as the last Kryptonian standing in the Arrrowverse.

A lot depends on how Supergirl wraps for Kara. For now, Superman fans and Arrowverse viewers can look forward to the premiere of Superman & Lois starring Tyler Hoechlin as the Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The first episode debuts on Tuesday, February 23 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW, immediately following the Season 7 premiere of The Flash. As DC film fans anticipate seeing Henry Cavill back in blue and red (and then also in black) for HBO Max's release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, TV viewers are eagerly anticipating Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel half-anchoring the standalone series Superman & Lois. Fans have lots of questions about what to expect from the first proper Superman TV show since Lois & Clark in the '90s – Smallville doesn't quiiite count – and the showrunner and stars took to DC FanDome to give some answers.

For Part 2 of the day-long DC FanDome event, Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch joined Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing for a show panel moderated by comic great Jim Lee. During the fan-submitted Q&A part of the panel, someone asked if the titular hero would be getting a different super-suit for the new show, and here's how Helbing put it:

As it happens, Tyler Hoechlin is indeed going to rock out with a new Superman costume, largely because the original suit he'd been wearing wasn't crafted for longterm use. It was only meant to withstand a couple of scenes in a couple of episodes a season, so the actor (and stuntmen, presumably) is going to need something more durable to mark his return to Smallville, and to the Arrowverse at large. He can't face off against new villains in old duds that might rip in the middle of a brawl!

Even after the long line of live-action Superman suits that have come before, it's still incredibly easy to get excited about seeing a new one come into existence. Unfortunately, Todd Helbing didn't have any specifics to share about what we can expect to see from Superman's next suit, but if he's calling it "really badass," I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't expect too many changes, but it'll be interesting to hear which comic era they looked to for inspiration.

When he mentioned "everything we were talking about earlier," Todd Helbing was referring to a previous part of the discussion tied to giving Clark and Lois fraternal twin teenage sons in the post-Crisis world. In explaining that decision, he talked about how the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover allowed the creative team to basically start fresh in terms of setting up a unique family life for Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch's characters. And as it goes for everyone, any time a multiverse event gives you twin teenagers, you just know a new super suit is on the way. Okay, maybe that isn't for everyone.

Though it's not yet known when Superman & Lois will be making its high-flying debut on The CW, we're hoping that production will be going smoothly enough to allow it to air as early in 2021 as possible. The latest iteration of Superman’s live-action costume, as worn by David Corenswet in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, has officially taken flight in the mindblowing first trailer. The question is, how does the new DC Universe’s official outfit for the Man of Steel in the upcoming DC movie – hitting theaters July 11, 2025 – measure up against what we have seen before?

Taking into account the definitive essentials of what Superman should look like, as first envisioned by artist Joseph Shuster’s original design in Action Comics #1, I have some opinions on the new Clark Kent’s look and that of all the live-action Superman costumes we have seen in great superhero movies and TV shows alike over the years. Based on comic book accuracy, practicality, believability, and overall badass appearance, these are my picks for the best of the ol’ red-and-blues (or blacks) so far, ranked in ascending order.

12. Tom Welling - Red Leather Jacket (Smallville)

To me, this clearly well-meaning design has a bit of an awkward “flashy biker” vibe. Still, at least it's more unique than digitally projecting the Superman Returns costume onto Tom Welling, which is the “official reveal” we got at the very end of the Smallville series finale.

The red leather jacket bearing the classic “S” emblem debuted in Season 10 of the popular prequel series and was actually Clark Kent’s second attempt at a pre-Superman costume. We will get to the first (and much cooler, I believe) design soon enough.

11. George Reeves (Superman And The Mole Men)

While I described the last entry as giving “flashy biker” vibes, I think of homemade pajamas when I see the costume donned by George Reeves. The actor wore this suit when he made his debut in the role in the 1951 feature-length film Superman and the Mole Men before becoming a staple of the Adventures of Superman series the following year.

Now, before you denounce me for what may have sounded like ridicule of this iconic design, I do notice and admire its comic book accuracy, even if it does pale in comparison to more modern costumes. Furthermore, I have no doubt these red and blues (or, more accurately, black and whites at the time) sparked a moment of unforgettable excitement for any young fans of the Man of Steel.

10. Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman)

Speaking of “homemade,” this costume was literally homemade by Clark Kent’s mother (K Callan) in the pilot of this Emmy-nominated 1990s series. Dean Cain played the lead, alongside Teri Hatcher’s Lois Lane, of ABC’s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which reimagined the Man of Steel’s story as a cheesy romantic dramedy of sorts with a costume to match the tone perfectly.

Fortunately, the suit saw some improvements as the series continued, such as swapping out the velcro-attached cape for one tucked under the blue tights. I also would regret not giving Cain extra points for having one of the largest chest emblems of any live-action design.

9. Tom Welling - Black (Smallville)

I understand the irony of where I rank this costume despite my praises of comic book accuracy and how the previously mentioned outfit worn by Tom Welling’s Clark Kent is clearly more faithful. However, I prefer the black trench coat approach of this costume, which showed up in Season 9 of Smallville

I like that it invokes a unique, noirish detective quality and, practically speaking, blends in during nightly adventures far more effectively than a red leather jacket. Furthermore, and once again, it is better than a CGI Superman Returns suit.

8. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns)

Speaking of, if there is one thing Bryan Singer’s polarizing continuation of 1980’s Superman II did right, it would have to be the suit worn by Brandon Routh. It does bear darker shades of blue and red, and a smaller, but more raised, chest emblem than Christopher Reeve’s costume (which, despite a breach in continuity, I almost find more cinematically appealing).

Plus, take a closer look at that emblem and you will see a collage of tiny House of El crests. That small, but very intriguing detail (along with the “S” on his belt buckle, too) is enough to convince me that Routh deserved his Superman reprisal… which we will get to soon.

7. Tyler Hoechlin (Supergirl)

One thing that I do not particularly admire about Brandon Routh’s suit is the red undies worn over the blue tights. I realize that Joseph Shuster’s illustration pretty much made that a tradition that has applied to many other superhero costume designs but I have always found it unnecessary and believe it does not translate as well to live-action.

That is a genuinely essential reason why I put it below Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman outfit, which he first appeared in on Supergirl in Season 2. I cannot say I care much for the way his cape is attached or the four golden etchings that surround the chest emblem for whatever reason, but everything else about this is A+ in my book.

6. Henry Cavill - Black (DC Extended Universe)

I suppose I have always had a bias toward superhero outfits that trade in their traditionally bright, colorful design for something darkly monochromatic. That is why my ranking of live-action Spider-Man movie outfits places Tobey Maguire’s black tights from Spider-Man 3 so high and why I admire the suit Henry Cavill dons in Zach Snyder’s Justice League following his resurrection.

After the actor teased the iconic design’s live-action debut in 2017’s Justice League on Instagram, fans were disappointed to see him back in the red-and-blues instead, which is why its long-awaited emergence in the Max-exclusive Snyder Cut was so appreciated and admired. For the same reasons most photos tend to look better in grayscale, redesigning the DCEU’s costume in solid black with a shining silver House of El crest makes Cavill’s Superman look great. Yet, this particular design – which is really not much more than his original outfit with the color drained – does leave some things to be desired, such as a shining, fully silver cape similar to McFarlane Toys’ Superman Black Suit Variant action figure.

5. David Corenswet (Superman)

Someone who shares my feelings about Clark Kent’s red undies is James Gunn, who was against the idea of bringing back the “trunks” for his upcoming superhero movie until star David Corenswet convinced him otherwise. After seeing what the first Superman poster and trailer have shown of the costume, I must admit that, somehow, the trunks might be one of my preferred aspects of the outfit. Frannkly, I still find the design a little busy and believe the chest emblem veers a bit too far from its classic “S” design, even if it does make a more believable House of El crest.

Luckily, I think the strengths outweigh the weaknesses here, overall. While I do tend to side with darker costumes (as some of my higher-ranked iterations will show), I applaud the more traditional and brighter color scheme – especially as a match for the tone Gunn seems to be going for with Superman – and I really dig the return of the yellow emblem on the cape. By combining classic elements with some from DC Comics' New 52 design, I think this new film has chosen a suit that promises a hopeful future for the Man of Steel on the big screen.

4. Tyler Hoechlin (Superman & Lois)

I gave Tyler Hoechlin’s suit from Supergirl an A+ but would give an A++ to his more recent and more “badass” Supersuit. The later, (technically) Arrowverse-canon outfit made its debut when the actor and his Lois, Elizabeth Tulloch, became the stars of their own solo TV show, Superman & Lois, which ended after four seasons in December 2024.

It probably goes without saying that I admire the removal of the emblem’s gold etchings and the previous cape attachments in lieu of tucking it under his collar, which also fits admirably tighter around his neck. Not to mention, his belt is much sleeker and I like the addition of a second House of El crest as the buckle, like on Routh’s Superman Returns costume. For these reasons, I think the new suit makes Hoechlin look better as the Man of Steel than ever and makes me thankful for the redesign.

3. Brandon Routh - Kingdom Come (Crisis On Infinite Earths)

While it is prone to put comic book fans up in arms, sometimes breaking tradition can be good. No, I am not talking about the outside undies again since this suit actually does incorporate that. I am specifically referring to how Alex Ross reimagined the Superman costume for one of the best DC Elseworlds stories, Kingdom Come.

With a less defined “S” on a black background in the chest emblem and darker belt, too, this was such a simple, yet astonishing change of pace that demanded a live-action translation. It finally did in the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, as worn by Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh, who has never looked better in the role.

2. Christopher Reeve (Superman: The Movie)

Despite my personal reservations over the trunks and brighter color schemes, those elements were used to perfection in 1978 when the late Christopher Reeve brought the Man of Steel to life in Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie. Appearing in four solo movies total (more than any so far), the outfit authentically captured that era’s comic book design, with some credit due to Reeve’s mirror image resemblance to the character.

As a result, decades later, this Superman costume remains the definitive style in the eyes of many die-hard fans of the character. I would proudly justify that claim, even if my preferences lean toward what more recent years have seen.

1. Henry Cavill (DC Extended Universe)

Ranking one of the more recent cinematic iterations this high sounds like the obvious choice but I truly believe the DCEU’s original Supersuit deserves it for much more than recency. Just look at the way the color shades match the character’s darker interpretation, the subtle and rightfully more otherworldly look of the crest, the thankful lack of red underwear, and the way it all fits on Henry Cavill’s angelic frame.

These elements are key to why this Superman is the most imposing and cinematically rich iteration yet, which is also how I felt about Batfleck’s costume design in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. There has always been something cheesy or cartoonish to note about the previous live-action suits but not at all on this one.

There may come a day, after I finally see the upcoming 2025 movie, Superman, that David Corenswet’s costume earns a higher place on my list. Until then, Cavill remains king in my eyes but which live-action Man of Steel do you believe looks best?

The new spinoff Superman & Lois is officially joining the Arrowverse next year, and the cast is back in Vancouver to begin filming in earnest on the first season. The newest CW superhero series would have had some new footage to share by now, but production shutdowns earlier this year halted filming on its pilot. However, a new Arrowverse trailer was released that provided fans the first glimpse of Superman & Lois' characters returning to Smallville, the hometown of Clark Kent.

While the trailer serves to highlight the entire Arrowverse, and its evolution from one show to a full slate of dramas (including The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and more), the final minute is dedicated to the introduction of Superman & Lois, the seventh superhero show to join The CW’s slate. (Not counting Stargirl.) Emmanuelle Chriqui’s Lana Lang can be heard welcoming Clark back to Smallville via voice-over, and it’s pointed out that the Kents need Smallville as much as the world needs Superman. It’s pretty cool, right? It doesn’t exactly offer much in the way of season-long plots, but it gives enough information to spark interest. I found it particularly intriguing that Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark is questioning whether this is the life he and Lois were meant to have after the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. Clark sounds unsure about their current state of affairs, which is understandable, considering how “Crisis” turned everything upside down.

Near the very end of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Lois called on Clark and urged him to return to Metropolis, citing "It’s the boys,” as her reasoning. He was momentarily confused, considering that he had but one infant son before joining the superheroes in their fight against the Anti-Monitor. This new trailer revisits that moment as a reminder that the famous superhero couple now have two sons in a post-Crisis world.

It’s unclear whose idea it will be to move back to Smallville, but Clark is heard telling his sons that Lois is “planning a trip.” To me, that just might indicate that it will be Lois’ grand plan to return to the Kent farm, but it’s also possible that Clark gets overtaken by nostalgia when he goes back, leading them both to decide to settle there instead of Metropolis. “Crisis on Infinite Earths” was a lot to handle, after all, and they could just want some peace and quiet for a while.

That said, Lois and Clark’s lives together have never been all that quiet or peaceful, and their arrival in Smallville will likely set off a chain of events that will see Superman eventually battling a new big bad. The fact that they’re now parents to two teenage sons will most certainly keep them on their toes as well.

From the moment actor Tyler Hoechlin first donned Superman's iconic red and blue costume (not to mention Clark Kent's signature glasses), Arrow-verse fans started clamoring for The CW to figure out a way to give Hoechlin's Man of Steel a standalone project. Those wishes only grew in size and magnitude once the "Elseworlds" crossover introduced Grimm's Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The seeds for Superman & Lois had been planted.

Following the duo's reunion for 2019's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, The CW announced that Tyler Hocehlin and Elizabeth Tulloch had secured their own corner of the Arrow-verse with the standalone series Superman & Lois. The upcoming comic book drama will have former Flash showrunner Todd Helbing as lead writer, as well as an executive producer along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. It's still in the casting process ahead of production on Season 1, but in the meantime, we're keeping an updated list of all the stars that have been cast so far, so keep checking back for new additions!

Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent / Superman)

Prior to joining the Arrow-verse (and still), Tyler Hoechlin was arguably best known for his work on MTV's Teen Wolf, or perhaps the long-running 7th Heaven. He joined Supergirl in 2016, and has appeared as Clark Kent and Superman opposite Melissa Benoist for six episodes, while appearing in two Flash and Arrow episodes, and one ep apiece for Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow. In Superman & Lois, Hoechlin will share the daily duties of being both a father figure and a superhero in modern society.

Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch (Lois Lane)

In 2011, Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch found the role and fandom of a lifetime as Juliette/Eve on NBC's Grimm, and then somehow followed up that show's six-season run by landing the role of Lois Lane for the Arrow-verse's then-biggest crossover extravaganza in 2018. Having appeared in two "Elseworld" episodes and all five "Crisis on Infinite Earths" chapters, Tulloch has already gotten a lot of love for portraying one of comic book history's most celebrated journalists. For Superman and Lois, she'll also be balancing working for the media with her role in the super-family.

Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang-Cushing)

In her first year or two of TV acting, Emmanuelle Chriqui had appeared in episodes of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, Forever Knight and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, so she was clearly on the path to big fandoms. Having starred in more recent shows such as Entourage, Murder in the First and 2019's unfortunately short-lived The Passage, Chriqui was cast in Superman & Lois as Clark's old flame Lana Lang, who remained in Smallville as others left the town behind for brighter pastures. As a married loan officer at Smallville Bank, Chriqui's Lana will be going through something difficult whenever she reconnects with Clark.

Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing)

The latest bit of casting at this point comes from Deadline, and marks the addition of actor Erik Valdez. A veteran of General Hospital and Graceland, Valdez will be taking on the created-for-TV role of Kyle Cushing, who will be Lana Lang's husband. As the fire chief in Smallville, Kyle is something of a local hero, having dealt with more than his share of tragic situations. He's maintained a small-town frame of mind that doesn't take kindly to anyone from the big city, so expect him to be something of a burden for Lana, Clark and Lois.

Dylan Walsh (Sam Lane)

Perhaps best known for being the more-moral-than-most Sean McNamara on Nip/Tuck, Dylan Walsh has built up a hefty TV portfolio in recently years, with recurring roles on shows such as Law & Order: SVU, Longmire and Blue Bloods. Walsh is set to join Superman & Lois as General Sam Lane, the father of Bitsie Tulloch's Lois. (Walsh was actually part of some recasting, as Glenn Morshower portrayed the elder Lane on Supergirl.) Walsh's Army general will be a workaholic who will stop at nothing to keep America safe from threats of this world and others. Lane has never been known for his comic relief, and Walsh will be solid at bringing a furrowed brow to Superman & Lois.

Jordan Elsass (Jonathan Kent)

After years in the business, Jordan Elsass hit upon his biggest role yet as the overly privileged Trip Richardson in Hulu's culturally charged drama Little Fires Everywhere. But now he's entering the world of comic book fiction as Jonathan Kent, one of Clark and Lois' two sons, seemingly a twin to brother Jordan. Jonathan is the more clean-up and earnest of the pair, and he sounds very much like the Golden Age idealized version of his father. (Jon Kent is Superboy in some versions of the comic mythos.)

Alexander Garfin (Jordan Kent)

To this date, actor Alexander Garfin's only credited roles in live-action come from two episodes of Law & Order: SVU, where he played two different characters. He's perhaps more known by younger fans for voicing Linus in 2015's The Peanuts Movie and a character in Disney Channel's Whisker Haven. Perhaps it's fitting, then, that he's taking the role of Jordan Kent, who doesn't have a direct comic counterpart. What's known is that Garfin's Jordan will be a bit of a loner who enjoys video games – probably not Nintendo 64's Superman, amirite? – and his temperament is bolstered by his ever-present social anxiety. That can't be a great thing when one is the son of the planet's only superhero.

The Arrow-verse just keeps getting bigger and bigger. With the Arrow-specific spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries on the way, The CW has also announced that they’re developing a new spinoff series called Superman and Lois. The project, which will be headed up by former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing, will star Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch as Superman and Lois Lane, respectively.

Tyler Hoechlin is no stranger to the Arrow-verse, having appeared in several episodes of Supergirl since Season 2. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Tulloch made her debut as Lois Lane in last year’s Arrow-verse crossover, “Elseworlds,” which saw Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen and Grant Gustin's Barry Allen switching places for a while. Both Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch were previously announced to be reprising their roles as Lois and Clark in this year’s crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” and now they’re getting their own show!

Taking to Instagram to share his excitement for the series, which will also include Lois and Clark’s child, Tyler Hoechlin said this:

Next to his caption, Tyler Hoechlin posted an old photo of Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder as Superman and Lois Lane from 1978’s Superman. I believe the symbolism should be pretty clear.

Earlier this year, Tyler Hoechlin confirmed that he didn't really watch any previous Superman performances prior to taking on the role himself, because he didn’t want it to inform his take on the character. But it looks like Christopher Reeve's Man of Steel can serve as the exception here. Speaking about the similarities between that image and the next pic of him and his co-star, Hoechline said:

Not to be one-up-upped by her new co-star, Elizabeth Tulloch also shared a lengthy post celebrating the announcement of Superman and Lois' development process.

Elizabeth Tulloch has not been shy about the admiration she has for Lois Lane. In “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” she’ll get to share the screen with Erica Durance’s Lois Lane (Smallville), and Tulloch is super pumped about getting to play a journalist in our current climate.

Other Arrow-verse stars also chimed in with their celebratory tweets. The Flash’s Candice Patton, who is giving Iris West-Allen a fun new look in Season 6, was thrilled for Elizabeth Tulloch in particular. Since both Iris and Lois are journalists married to superheroes, they should definitely get their fair share of interactions in the future. Hopefully, they'll get to meet in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" so that fans won't have to wait until Superman and Lois to get their fill.

Arrow star Stephen Amell, whose final bow as Oliver Queen is said to be a happy one, also took to Twitter to congratulate both Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch. "Crisis on Infinite Earths" may be the final time Oliver gets to share scenes with Lois and Clark, which is a sad thought, but he seems ecstatic knowing the Arrow-verse will be in good hands.

The last we saw of the Arrow-verse's Clark Kent and Lois Lane they were getting engaged, expecting a baby, and going off to live in Argo City for a while. It's possible that the new series will bring them back to Earth, especially now that "Crisis" is looming large.

Lo and behold, the next chapter of the Arrow-verse is already in development at The CW, and it's apparently going to be quite a super project. The network is in active development on a new hour-long drama, titled Superman & Lois, that will be squarely focused on the Man of Steel and Lois Lane. Holy Krypton!

Thankfully, it's confirmed that The CW's Superman & Lois Lane will continue building upon the characters that have already been introduced through Supergirl, with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising the roles of Clark Kent (and Superman) and Lois Lane, respectively. No other casting was announced for the project, but fans can probably expect to see a few familiar faces from Supergirl and possibly beyond.

Superman & Lois's pilot screenplay is being penned by Todd Helbing, who served as The Flash's showrunner for several years before stepping down ahead of Season 6. It wasn't entirely clear where his efforts would be going next, but it makes sense that he would end up taking over an even bigger DC Comics TV series.

Executive producers for Superman & Lois are quite familiar to the Arrow-verse franchise, with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns taking on those behind-the-scenes roles. Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV will be the studios behind the project, to be expected.

The CW is already gearing up to have some fun with Superman in the near-ish future, with the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover set to feature Superman Returns star Brandon Routh as a wholly different version of the Man of Steel that ties into the Kingdom Come comic run. Routh, who is exiting his role of Ray Palmer in The CW's Legends of Tomorrow, will be sharing screentime with Tyler Hoechlin for the first time as a fellow Superman.

Tyler Hoechlin had already been an established part of the Supergirl universe by the time the Arrow-verse's "Elseworlds" crossover took place in 2017. However, the episodes marked the first time that Lois Lane was introduced, with Grimm vet Elizabeth Tulloch landing the iconic role. Fans were pretty pleased all around by this live-action iteration of the comic book couple, and it sounds like the producers were eager to find ways to expand those characters within the primetime universe. (This also matches up with what The CW's head honcho was saying about possible replacements for Arrow when it bows out after this season.)

If the DCEU does end up needing a new Superman, it won't have to look far. Henry Cavill has portrayed the character since 2013's Man of Steel, but if last year's news is to be believed, DC and Warner Bros. are moving forward without Cavill. Jason Momoa maintains that Cavill is still firmly attached to the role, strengthening confusion about what's actually happening and making it difficult to form any kind of opinion on the situation. It changes so often that it's unwise to get attached to one possibility. But predictably, fans are already posting their picks for his replacement, and the overwhelming favorite already plays the character (just in a different medium).

Many fans think Supergirl actor Tyler Hoechlin should replace Cavill. The thing is, Hoechlin has portrayed Superman on television for a few years now, so chances of him crossing mediums is unlikely. But still, people are holding out hope.

While at FAN EXPO Boston, Tyler Hoechlin was told he often tops lists to be the next Superman after Henry Cavill. Here's how Hoechlin responded (via Comicbook.com):

There you have it. He didn't explicitly say that it wasn't going to happen, but he may as well have. A potential move to the DCEU hasn't even been discussed, but it's interesting to imagine where/how Tyler Hoechlin would fit amongst the franchise's other stars. Chemistry is important, but the guy seems like he would adapt well. He'd probably do a really good job but it may be best for him to stay on the television side of things. Moving him around would undoubtedly confuse casual viewers.

While it is unwise to get too hopeful or assume too much before official word hits the 'net (especially when talking DC), it also keeps fans sane. And despite what the cynics and the skeptics say, wishful thinking can absolutely pay off. Remember when IT: Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti confirmed that he was in talks to direct the long-gestating Flash film? No one saw that coming and fans were doubtful, but star Ezra Miller confirmed it so it all lines up.

Tyler Hoechlin is perhaps best known for his work on 7th Heaven and Teen Wolf, but his Superman portrayal has also garnered praise and caught fans' attention. He was cast in 2016 after Greg Berlanti brought him on and he quickly became a hit with critics and audiences alike. He is set to appear in December's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, as well as in a number of upcoming films.

When an actor takes on an iconic role like Superman, there are large boots to fill, especially when the role has been previously played by several other actors. Supergirl actor Tyler Hoechlin was definitely feeling the heat when it came to stepping into Superman’s boots for the first time. Though it’s astonishing that Hoechlin managed to have never seen other Superman portrayals, the actor recently admitted to maintaining a safe distance from anything involving the good-natured hero for fear of imitating other actors.

Tyler Hoechlin, who first appeared in Supergirl’s Season 2 premiere, “The Adventures of Supergirl,” appeared at Fan Expo Canada over the weekend, greeting fans and speaking at a panel. Hoechlin (via ComicBook) brought up the fact that he’d kept minimal contact with other Superman properties for a reason.

Since his debut as the Arrow-verse’s version of Clark Kent, it’s safe to say that Tyler Hoechlin’s done a fantastic job portraying the Man of Steel. Now that it’s been a few years since being cast and he’s more comfortable in the role, the actor isn’t against going back to watch other actors portrayals of Superman, especially that of Christopher Reeve.

Hoechlin will be reprising his role as Superman in what’s sure to be the Arrow-verse’s most epic crossover yet, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” but the actor will have some competition. It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Legends of Tomorrow actor Brandon Routh will not only play Ray Palmer/the Atom, but he’ll also be taking on the role of Kingdom Come Superman in this year’s crossover. This Superman is an alternate version of the character, one who is immune to Kryptonite and hails from Earth-22.

The idea of Hoechlin’s version of the Man of Steel having to battle Routh, who played the iconic character in Superman Returns, will be fun to watch. Tyler Hoechlin will return to the Arrow-verse when “Crisis on Infinite Earths” kicks off in December with a five-episode crossover. Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch will also be reprising her role as Lois Lane, who first appeared in last year’s crossover, “Elseworlds.”

Every year, The CW's mega-crossover events are able to all the more weird and wild, and the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" has the potential to be the biggest TV crossover ever. Helping that distinction out is the news that Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will FINALLY get to honor his previous superhero work from Superman Returns with a second spin at playing the Man of Steel. Yeah, we're getting not just one, but two different versions of TV Superman on The CW this fall.

How in the world(s) is this going to happen? To be expected, the creative powers that be aren't giving up the ghost when it comes to specific details. It's being reported, though, that both Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh will be suiting up as Superman across two different time frames. Naturally, we don't know which time frames.

Considering Tyler Hoechlin's Superman is already established during the current timeline on Supergirl, it would make a lot of sense for Brandon Routh's hero to be the one showing up in the past or the future. Not to mention the fact that Routh plays a time-traveling hero on Legends of Tomorrow, which regularly dips back to memorable moments in history.

Will the Legends' mission in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" take the team back in time to a point when...Superman was around? That wouldn't necessarily make much sense, unless of course Brandon Routh will be confirmed as Earth-1's version of Superman. That would be huge, both for the show's narrative and for eager viewers.

Though the Arrow-verse has made multiple mentions of Bruce Wayne (and possibly Batman) existing on Earth-1, Supergirl is the main hub of Superman-related references. As such, it's easy to assume that Earth-1 might not have had any superpowered aliens living among the metahumans and regular folks. But depending on how Brandon Routh's Superman factors into things, that assumption could be rendered as hogwash.

6 Arrow-verse Heroes Who Could Die In Crisis On Infinite Earths

On the flip side, the Arrow-verse might try and sell Brandon Routh's Superman as an aged-up version of Tyler Hoechlin's. The logistics there are as fuzzy as can be, and the former is only eight years older than the latter, but it's still a possibility.

While we're talking possibilities, I'd be remiss in not wondering if Brandon Routh will actually be reprising the very same Superman that he played in Superman Returns, thus introducing that reality into the TV multiverse. No doubt, that would be the most surreal and arguably absurd way to handle things, but "surreal and absurd" is Legends of Tomorrow's middle name.

No one is saying yet which episode (or episodes) that Brandon Routh or Tyler Hoechlin will appear in as Superman, nor whether or not they will share the screen together. It is worth stating, though, that Routh is confirmed by Deadline to appear as Legends of Tomorrow's Ray Palmer, as Superman, and as mind-mannered Clark Kent. Quite the powerful trifecta there.

While waiting to hear more about how all this will get explained during the crossover, fans can take the time to think about how Brandon Routh's Superman is going to look when he shows up. Will it be a carbon copy look of his Superman Returns visage? Will he be an older and wizened Man of Steel? Will he get a Bizarro look? I can't wait!

Plus, Melissa Benoist showed off her new duds for Supergirl Season 5, so can we expect to see a costume upgrade for Tyler Hoechlin as well? Here's hoping.

The Arrow-verse shows will all return to The CW in October, with the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover kicking off just ahead of the winter hiatus with three episodes. Unlike past crossovers, though, this one will pick back up again after the dramas return in the new year, with two more episodes to close this "Crisis" out.

After coming and going on Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin brought Superman back to the Arrow-verse for last year's crossover. He did so in grand fashion, reprising the role alongside a newly introduced Lois Lane. That was not all either. The "Elseworlds" crossover also paid homage to Smallville. Will Superman be part of the Arrow-verse’s next crossover? Hoechlin said:

Tyler Hoechlin shared his hopes regarding the next Arrow-verse crossover event at MCM London Comic Con (via Geektown). After he got a notable showcase during “Elseworlds,” it stands to reason the team over at The CW would want him back. However, Hoechlin says that he has yet to get any confirmation. He, like many fans, wants the Arrow-verse’s Superman to return.

Previously in the Arrow-verse, Superman had left the world in Supergirl’s capable hands. He and Lois Lane were headed for Argo City. They announced they were having a baby and later became engaged. Lois could stay in Argo City, while Superman returns to save the world. A crossover without the power couple? It could happen.

This is not just any crossover either. Yes, it is “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” and it is the last time that Arrow will be participating in it as a show. Not to say that Oliver Queen could not pop in down the line. Stephen Amell has revealed whether he would return to the Arrow-verse after the show that started everything is finished. Let’s just say that his response should leave fans hopeful for the possibility.

Nevertheless, the idea of Superman not taking part in the upcoming crossover feels unlikely. As previously announced, every show in the Arrow-verse will be participating in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” That includes Legends of Tomorrow and this fall’s newcomer, Batwoman.

With so many on board, it would make sense to include Superman too. There is an extra incentive to want him around along with what has already been mentioned. That is if the casting rumor about Tom Welling joining Arrow for its final season comes to fruition. If it does, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” could be host to two Superman actors. Of course, that is a big “if.”

The Arrow-verse crossover is still quite a bit off into the future. It does not begin airing until the end of this year. A lot more information should become available regarding the crossover as summer ends, and it gets closer to premiering. For now, fans will just have to keep their fingers crossed along with Tyler Hoechlin that it happens.

The Arrow-verse crossover event will begin in December 2019 on The CW. Supergirl returns this fall with new episodes airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. Arrow, The Flash, and the premiere of the new Arrow-verse series, Batwoman, will join it. Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 will return in 2020.

The CW's yearly Arrow-verse crossover always brings plenty of surprises for fans. It's been a few months now since we heard that this year's event was going to introduce its own version of Lois Lane. Now, we've finally gotten our first look at her, and, well, it's Super!

The photo, which also features actor Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Kara's cousin Clark / Superman on Supergirl, shows a fully suited up Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane in a very proud and comfortably close pose with lots of glowy, rainbow prism light surrounding them and making the twosome look extra fly. We have heard previously that Lois and Superman are in love, so, presumably, we'll be meeting the couple after they're already in a relationship, with those thick-rimmed eyeglasses of Clark's no longer being a barrier to Lois knowing about his double life.

Another clue to how close they'll be when we meet them in the crossover can be found in what appears to be the setting of this photo. Superman and Lois seem to be standing in his Fortress of Solitude, and while I get that she'll probably feel totally at home there by this point in their relationship, I am concerned (and somewhat confused) by her choice of clothing. It doesn't seem to be entirely practical, given the standard setting of Superman's Fortress of Solitude, and also doesn't fit with what we usually see Lois doing as she goes about her daily life.

The Fortress of Solitude is typically set in the Arctic, and, just from what we see in this photo of the happy couple, it does appear to be pretty icy in there. So, my question is: What, exactly, is Miss Lane wearing? She's certainly not dressed for work at the Daily Planet. That would usually entail a smart business suit or classy blouse and skirt / pants combo. And, even if it is winter in Metropolis and National City during the crossover (it will air this December, after all), Lois is also not dressed for roaming about town in either locale when the temps are frigid.

While it's hard to say for sure, because this photo doesn't show what may (or may not) be on Lois' feet, she also doesn't really seem to be on her way to or from a fancy night out. I'm going to say that, even for a serious reporter like Lois Lane, her hair, makeup and jewelry are too basic for that.

Honestly, in this photo, Lois is dressed like some sort of Greek goddess who spends most of her time simply lounging around. And, while she looks amazing, I can't help but wonder if this is some clue as to how or why the character will be showing up in the crossover. Has Lois gained a superpower that allows her to regulate her body temperature so that she never feels a chill or overheats? Is that new power killing her and Superman needs to find a cure?

I would sort of love it if Lois' life is in danger, but while Supes is on a break from trying to save her life, they both figure that this is a prime opportunity to take a few photos. You know how it is; they're both smokin' hot and it's about time they start to fill all those empty walls at Clark's secret hideout / base of operations. One can only stare at bare ice walls for so long. Especially when one is entertaining the presence of ones lady love on a long term basis, right? Ladies need to decorate, y'all.

Either way, we currently don't have a lot of information on the story for the three night Arrow-verse crossover event. We do, however know that the crossover is titled "Elseworlds," which could mean that, even though we've seen Superman and Lois' sister and father on Supergirl, the versions of the characters in this photo are actually from yet another Earth that hasn't previously been explored in the Arrow-verse. We also know that Batwoman, a.ka. Kate Kane (played by Ruby Rose) is coming to the crossover, along with a ton of other characters we've never seen in this continuity before. And, any of these heroes and villains could be from Earths that are not Earth-1 or Earth-38.

With multiple Earths playing a large part in the Arrow-verse shows in general (especially The Flash), and the promise that the crossover will feature the alternate reality / timeline shenanigans of the Elseworlds line of comic books, the crossover has also cast a character with major implications for such a story, with the very powerful alien being known as The Monitor being a part of this story, as well. In DC Comics, The Monitor is mostly known for his part in the Crisis on Infinite Earths story arc, and the character is actually charged with observing and protecting the multiverse, meaning he could be the force that brings all of these disparate characters together, possibly to stop a threat to all of known existence.

So, just where does all of this leave Superman and Lois Lane? The answer right now, unfortunately, is we simply don't know. With a number of characters coming to the crossover from villain-filled Gotham City, we could just be looking at a situation where villains are running amok, Superman needs to help Batwoman control them and Lois is reporting on the damage done. Though, I have to say, I'm partial to Lois getting a temp-regulating superpower that's slowly killing her, but I guess I can leave the details of the crossover up to the writers.

This year's Arrow-verse crossover will cover three consecutive nights, with The Flash starting things off on December 9, continued action on Arrow December 10, and Supergirl wrapping the whole shebang up on December 11 on The CW. To calm the wait until we can find out just what all of these details mean, be sure to check out the other shows returning and premiering this fall.

The big Arrow-verse crossover of 2018 is still months away, but news about what to expect from the event has been released in recent weeks to get fans pumped about what's to come in the latest superhero team-up. Although the Legends legends will be absent, the Arrow-verse is bringing in a number of other heroes, including the Man of Steel himself. Or, at least a Man of Steel. Arrow star Stephen Amell shared a pic of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman looking very different than we've seen him on Supergirl:

As we see in this photo of Grant Gustin, Tyler Hoechlin, and Stephen Amell (courtesy of Amell on Twitter), Superman will be wearing a black suit in the Arrow-verse crossover, called "Elseworlds," and that raises a whole bunch of questions. When Arrow-verse characters start wearing all black, it's often a sign that something evil is afoot. When Kara went temporarily dark due to the effects of Red Kryptonite, she wore all black. Is the black Superman suit a sign that crossover Superman is a bad guy?

Well, we can't rule that out, especially since the "Elseworlds" title may indicate that the crossover Superman isn't the kind and perky Superman we've come to know on Supergirl. Besides, Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell are wearing matching shoes, pants, and even chains on their pants, so this photo may show different versions of all three characters we've come to know. That, or this is a shot of a crossover boy band with Superman as the lead singer and Flash and Green Arrow as his backup vocalists/dancers.

More likely than the boy band theory is that the black suit in the crossover is a nod to the Death of Superman arc from DC Comics that saw Superman don a black suit after being resurrected. The purpose of the black suit was to allow Superman to absorb the yellow rays of Earth's sun as soon as possible to heal and regain his powers. Perhaps crossover Superman's black suit is making an appearance because he needs to heal.

We do know that Superman won't be alone in the crossover, as "Elseworlds" will officially introduce Lois Lane into the Arrow-verse. If he was injured somehow, perhaps that explains why the other heroes will need to pitch in. Theoretically, if something happened that knocked Superman so out of commission that he needed a healing suit, perhaps he'd want to bring in his equally super cousin with some super friends as backup.

Unfortunately, we can only speculate at this point. Superman is not likely to be the focal point of the crossover, as a great deal of buzz is already circulating around the introduction of Batwoman -- who may get her own CW series -- and Gotham City. Batman isn't likely to appear, but one of his most legendary villains might, and Arkham Asylum is definitely in play. Throw in the other hero (or villain) Stephen Amell may be playing thanks to a new mask, and "Elseworlds" should be a wild ride.

The inclusion of the black suit for Superman could be fun for fans of DC's movies. Justice League infamously left out the black suit for Superman that many assumed was going to be included, with the only appearance coming in a brief deleted scene. You can see the suit in all its dark glory when the crossover kicks off with The Flash on December 9, with the action continuing with Arrow on December 10 and Supergirl finishing things up on December 11. Legends of Tomorrow gets its own crossover.

The CW is the place to be on the small screen for superhero team-up action every fall as the good guys of multiple DC Comics-based shows join forces to fight the forces of evil. Although the 2018 crossover is still months away (and will leave out one of the four Arrow-verse shows), big news about the event has been breaking all summer, and most of it has been batty. Now, there's a big development on the Super front. Not only will Superman return to the Arrow-verse for the first time in more than a full TV season, but he'll bring his legendary lady love Lois Lane with him. Check out the announcement for yourself!

The news (courtesy of DC Comics' official Twitter account) confirms earlier hints that Tyler Hoechlin could reprise his role as Superman in the 2018-2019 season, although all signs at that point only indicated that he could drop by Supergirl shortly after it returns in the fall. Now we may be able to count on him on multiple Arrow-verse shows this year instead of just Supergirl, with the exception of Legends of Tomorrow. Given that DC's announcement seems to indicate that Lois Lane won't debut until the crossover in December, Superman will likely pop up on his own in his early Supergirl appearance. Superman hasn't appeared in the flesh on any Arrow-verse show since the end of Supergirl Season 2; the Man of Steel's return should be welcomed by man fans.

As for Lois Lane, there was never any guarantee that she would turn up. She's been referred to on Supergirl as the woman Superman loves, and that show introduced Lois' sister and father. Still, she's kept busy with the Daily Planet on Metropolis and can't just zoom over to National City as easily as Superman. News of her arrival in the crossover is sure to delight viewers who have had their fingers crossed that the classic character would someday appear on The CW's superhero shows. Personally, I'm hoping Lois has some reason to cross paths with Alura. The current Lois Lane interacting with a previous Lois Lane would be fun for sure. It's only too bad Rhea died and took yet another former Lois Lane out of the running for an appearance.

All of that said, the announcement of the lovebirds' arrival in the crossover doesn't specify what Earth they're from, and the previous crossover revolved around a whole bunch of Nazi villains from Earth-X. Could the 2018 Arrow-verse crossover feature mostly good guys from another Earth this time around? After all, The CW hasn't yet confirmed that Batwoman is based out of Earth-1, and none of the Earth-1 heroes has even mentioned a Bat-Signal shining in the skies over Gotham. We shouldn't necessarily rule out meeting a Batwoman, Lois Lane, and/or Superman from an world other than Supergirl's Earth-38 and Earth-1. If other Earths are in play, maybe Rhea is still alive and we could have three Lois Lane actresses sharing a scene!

Okay, that's not particularly likely, but the sky is the limit at this point, and we have plenty of time to speculate about how these characters will fit into the crossover action. We have a major theory about how Batwoman should be introduced into the Arrow-verse, and we have until December to come up with some ways for Superman and Lois Lane to drop by as well. Maybe it's a good thing that Legends of Tomorrow won't get a crossover episode like The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl with so many characters dropping in!

Supergirl may star Kara Danvers in her exploits as the Girl of Steel, but she's not the only heroic Kryptonian to don a cape to save the day on Earth-38. Tyler Hoechlin joined Supergirl as Superman back in the first couple of episodes of Season 2, and he quickly proved to be just the right man for the job. Although Superman was active during the third season, his heroics were limited to taking place off-screen. The good news is that it looks like Superman will be back in the flesh in the upcoming fourth season.

The third episode of Season 4 will be titled "Man of Steel," according to SpoilerTV. No further details seem to be available at this point, but surely Supergirl wouldn't name an episode after Superman without actually bringing in Superman, right? He's probably due for a chat with his cousin after her latest villain came so close to terraforming Earth that he had to go save Madagascar. I'm guessing the super-cousins will have plenty to talk about whenever he shows up next. Given that he hasn't appeared on screen since the end of Season 2, when he was affected by silver kryptonite to the point that he attacked Kara, it's time for him to return.

The Superman of Supergirl is decidedly sunnier than the Superman who appeared on the big screen in Justice League, so perhaps his appearance could be a bit of a palate-cleanser for viewers who want something a little more uplifting than the current state of the DC Extended Universe. Considering Supergirl is tackling a legendary Superman story in Season 4, perhaps Superman could fly in for some advice and Easter eggs for comic fans looking forward to Supergirl's version of the Red Son arc.

Of course, given the new villain who will be on the scene for Season 4, Superman may not be welcome by the public in National City if he turns up again. Agent Liberty, played by Sam Witwer, will be hard at work to try and turn people against alien heroes like Supergirl, and we can bet that Superman won't be an exception to his rule. The new trans superhero could be a very valuable ally in a season featuring Agent Liberty, especially if Agent Liberty comes up with a way to take down even powerful aliens like Supergirl and Superman.

Lena Luthor is still capable of making kryptonite, and it may not take too much for her to go full villain. Assuming she eventually finds out that her BFF Kara is actually Supergirl, Lena could feel very vulnerable and betrayed, and the Luthor family isn't known for dealing with vulnerability in especially healthy ways. Basically, there are a lot of ways Supergirl could incorporate Superman into Season 4. While many of them would force him to get darker than he did in his first couple of appearances, who are we to turn down an appearance from Superman?

If Superman does indeed return in the third episode of Season 4, at least we wouldn't have to wait too long once the season kicks off. With only a couple episodes left before the Season 2 finale of Supergirl, things are not looking good for Kara at the moment. Luckily, she won't be going at things entirely alone as executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says she'll have her mentors Superman and Cat Grant returning for some support:

Both Clark and Cat's penultimate return are welcome as things are certainly heating up, what with the fleet of Daxamite ships looking to turn National City and the world into "New Daxam". With Mon-El back with his mother, it's gonna be an all out war on Earth that Kara will definitely need Clark and the rest of the team for. I can also see Cat Grant serving her purpose in helping Kara get her head right for what is sure to be a series of tough decisions. If Mon-El was unable to kill his evil mother Rhea to stop her plans, will he rise up and stop Kara from doing what she has to do when the time comes? Would Kara even have something like that in her? These so-called "awful decisions" mentioned above have me really wondering how dark this hour can get for our heroine. As bad as things look right now, I can't see how this situation gets resolved without some considerable bloodshed.

Honestly, considering the confirmation that one of Superman's greatest foes will make a brief appearance on Supergirl, I'm not even sure having Clark and Cat will be enough to dig Kara out of this. It's bad enough a full out invasion is taking place, but throwing someone as destructive as General Zod into the mix has me questioning how Kara, even with the help of her cousin, can find a way to put all this to rest. All guesses regarding Cat and Superman's pivotal role in helping Kara save National City are welcome, as Andrew Kreisberg tells EW we'll be "shocked at both of their appearances," and nothing else beyond that. Maybe Cat will finally reveal she knew Kara was Supergirl all along?

We'll be getting an answer come Monday as Cat Grant and Clark Kent appear once more on Supergirl this Monday at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Supergirl kicked off Season 2 by bringing in one of the biggest superheroes off all time: Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman. He dropped by National City in the Season 2 premiere to visit his cousin and lend a hand when Metallo and his kryptonite heart began making a mess of things for Kara. Superman took his leave of National City in Episode 2 of Season 2, and there was no saying if and when he'd be back. Now, we finally have an answer: Superman is coming back to Supergirl, and it's sooner than we might have thought.

Superman will return to Supergirl once more in the Season 2 finale, and it won't be another instance of a baby Superman or hallucination Superman or blurred-out Superman; E! News reports that Tyler Hoechlin will be back to bring the Man of Steel to life on the small screen. No details have yet been released about why Superman will drop by National City again, but Kara is currently facing enough threats that it's not hard to believe that she'd welcome a helping hand in the season finale.

For one thing, Kara is going to have to deal with the Daxamites now that Mon-El has made his choice to stick with her and the D.E.O. rather than return to his hedonistic life on Daxam. Given that Queen Rhea went so far as to murder her husband because he got in the way of her efforts to retrieve their son, I'd say that she still has some dastardly deeds up her sleeve for Team Supergirl to deal with in Season 2.

For another thing, Lillian Luthor and Cadmus are still out there to cause trouble. Supergirl has already revealed that Lex Luthor - who made his debut via flashback earlier in Season 2 - created caches of weapons designed to combat Superman prior to being captured and imprisoned; if somebody starts raiding these caches either to attack Superman or Supergirl, we can bet that two Kryptonians will be better than one in fighting back.

Of course, there's always the chance that Clark just wants to drop by and see his cousin Kara. Who knows? Maybe he'll simply be chasing a story for The Daily Planet all the way to National City. He could simply be in town whenever all the season finale action starts to go down. My money is on something more sinister bringing him to town, but Supergirl could go a softer route.

I'll admit that I was originally pretty skeptical about Supergirl bringing Superman into the fold. After all, Superman is arguably the best-known superhero in the history of the genre, and he could easily overshadow the Girl of Steel in her own series. It could have been like Batman showing up in a show about Robin: nobody is going to care about the lesser-known character if one of the biggest names in the biz shows up. (Not that I'm opposed to a Bat-presence on Supergirl.) I was pleasantly surprised when Tyler Hoechlin fit right into the Supergirl ensemble, and I'm definitely psyched to see how he'll lend a helping hand in the Season 2 finale.

Only a few actors have gotten the chance to play the most iconic superhero in the world, and this fall Tyler Hoechlin will get to join the exclusive club. Superman will be making his debut on Supergirl when it premieres on the CW later in the fall. You'd think the casting process for Kara's famous cousin would have been a long and difficult one, but as it turns out it was surprisingly simple. As Hoechlin himself points out, he didn't even have to audition for the role.

Tyler Hoechlin sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly and opened up about donning the classic red cape and "S" crest. It sounds like Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg always knew that they wanted the Teen Wolf actor, and didn't even need to meet with anyone else - which is crazy given how iconic the role is. Around 2,500 actors auditioned for the part of young Han Solo before finally settling on Alden Ehrenreich. It didn't even take a week for the Supergirl producers to make their final decision for Superman; one can certainly see why the whole thing was flattering for Hoechlin.

The quick pace of the casting makes sense, though, given Tyler Hoechlin's attitude toward Superman. The actor further opens up about playing the role to EW, and explains that his first experience with Superman was from watching Dean Cain on Lois & Clark (Cain also plays Kara's adoptive father on Supergirl). Hoechlin's favorite portrayal of the character comes from Christopher Reeve, but he didn't let that inform his own performance. The Superman on Supergirl will stay true to the tradition of Superman, but won't be indicative of anyone else's performance.

That quote seems to capture Superman more than almost anyone working in the pre-Geoff Johns DCEU. It sounds like Superman is in good hands, and I hope people are excited to see him when Supergirl returns on Monday, October 10, 2016 on the CW.

If you've been paying any attention to the world of TV and movies lately, you'll notice one thing: it's all about superheroes. Between the big screen's Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe, as well as the various TV universes floating around there, it's clear that everyone wants to watch some superheroic adventures. However, we often don't think about some of the logistical and awkward moments that go into becoming a comic book icon. Luckily for us, Teen Wolf actor Tyler Hoechlin has recently took on the role of Superman on CW's Supergirl, and he's opened up regarding the pros and cons of donning the iconic suit.

Tyler Hoechlin spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his upcoming debut as the Man of Steel. When asked how it felt into Supes' costume, he said the following:

That's a lot for one measly costume to do. Let's break down what we're hearing from the newest Superman to take flight.

For one, that skin tight suit is obviously a bitch to actually get on. In set photos that have been leaked from filming, you can see hoe Tyler Hoechlin could have a hard time even moving due to how closely it hugs to his body. We've heard similar accounts from other superhero figures in regards to their costume. Olivia Munn reportedly needed two dressers and a ton of lube in order to get into her X-Men: Apocalypse costume. Additionally, Gal Gadot found her Batman v Superman costume impossible to breathe in, but was so thrilled to step into Wonder Woman's shoes that she didn't originally say anything. I guess being a hero isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Then again, there's the other side of Tyler Hoechlin's comment. While the process of stepping into Superman's shoes wasn't exactly glamorous, the costume did truly have a transformative affect on the actor. Seeing how his coworkers treated him while in the blue and red was exactly what he needed to truly immerse himself in the character. There's nothing like a super suit to truly make you feel like a hero.

Supergirl will return for Season 2 at its new home, The CW, starting Monday, October 10th.

After numerous hazy and indirect appearances last season during Supergirl last season, Superman is fully debuting this fall on the Girl of Steel's TV series. Tyler Hoechlin was cast as the Man of Steel last month, and since then, fans have been eagerly waiting to see the actor in the iconic red, yellow and blue duds. Now we finally have our first look at the Teen Wolf star in costume as Kal-El, next to Melissa Benoit's Kara Zor-El.

Although Tyler Hoechlin and the Supergirl cast were present at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, there wasn't a sneak peek of how this new version of Superman will look. Instead, DC Comics and The CW saved the first gaze for today, with Superman and Supergirl triumphantly posting over the 'S' shield and sunlight gleaming in the background. This costume, designed by Kiersten Ronning, looks quite familiar to what hardcore and casual fans are used to, from the red cape to the yellow background on his symbol. However, he's traded in the red undies for a belt of the same color, which is consistent with how the character has looked since the New 52.

While the boots look a little more clunky than usual, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman costume looks faithful to what Kal-El, a.k.a. Clark Kent, has typically worn over his 78-year existence. Obviously Supergirl's own costume was based off his, so it had to have that classic design rather than be something radically different. Although Tom Welling's Clark Kent briefly suited up in the Smallville finale, the last time we saw a properly costumed Superman on live action television was in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Henry Cavill is currently playing the cinematic Man of Steel in the DC Extended Universe, but his suit looks more textured, while Hoechlin's suit looks more streamlined.

Superman's presence was definitely felt throughout Supergirl Season 1, but his actual appearances left a lot to be desired. Kal, a.k.a. Clark Kent, primarily communicated to Kara through instant messaging, and when he did show up, he was either far away, out of focus or lying in a coma on an operating table, with only his boots showing in front of the camera. For the show's sophomore season, they've opted to finally give Kara's Kryptonian cousin a proper introduction. Tyler Hoechlin's Superman will appear in the first two episodes of Supergirl Season 2, but there's been no word yet on if/when we can expect future appearances from him.

The CW's Supergirl will soon become a family affair, and excitement for Kal-El's arrival on the series has reached an all time high. Actor Tyler Hoechlin will soon step into the iconic red boots of the equally iconic DC legend, and bring us a new small screen version of Clark Kent -- who hasn't been seen since Smallville ended. Hoechlin joins a long line of prestigious names to portray the last son of Krypton, and he definitively proved that he looks the part at this year's San Diego Comic-Con by doing the iconic Superman spit curl. Cinema Blend was in the audience in Ballroom 20 during the Supergirl panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The crowd cheered wildly for every member of the cast, but Tyler Hoechlin's introduction nearly blew the roof off the building. During a Q&A panel he admitted that he has not tried on the red and blue Superman outfit yet, so he had to settle for putting his hair into the instantly recognizable spit curl that fans have come to know and love from the comics.

It might seem like an incredibly minor detail, but the spit curl is one of those things that fans simply have come to expect from DC comics. Although Henry Cavill's modern incarnation of the Man of Steel has eschewed the hairstyle, most silver and small screen versions of the character has featured it, and it's a mainstay visual cue of his comic book persona.

The fact that the folks at Supergirl have no problem embracing this minor detail of the character could potentially inform their upcoming depiction of the DC god. If we're going to be seeing the spit curl, then it could possibly also lead us to believe that Tyler Hoechlin's version of Superman will have a very chipper, optimistic, and all around Superman-esque persona when he arrives on the silver screen. Supergirl has become known as one of the more vibrant and light-hearted superhero series on television today, so that depiction would mesh perfectly with Superman's surroundings.

Of course, it remains unclear as to whether or not Tyler Hoechlin's version of Superman will actually have a spit curl in his hair when he finally debuts on Supergirl; this could very well just have been a joke for the Comic-Con audience. That being said, it's impossible to deny that -- spit curl or not -- he totally looks the part.

Because of how long Superman has been around, we've seen many, many, many different versions of the Man of Steel over the years -- and soon yet another will be added to the ranks. Tyler Hoechlin has been cast to play Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman in the upcoming season of Supergirl, which will soon become a more significant part of the ever-growing DCTV Universe. But given the variety of Supermen we've seen over the years, how are Hoechlin and the showrunners figuring out what their version should be? According to the actor, the approach was all about taking in all of the different incarnations, and deciding what really makes the character compelling.

Tyler Hoechlin is currently doing press to support the Blu-ray and DVD release of the amazing Richard Linklater film Everybody Wants Some!!, and after a great conversation of the movie, we concluding our conversation by talking about his approach to the Last Son of Krypton. Because Henry Cavill's Superman has gotten a whole bunch of exposure recently, I asked if he was actively trying to do something different with the character, and he explained that it wasn't about doing something different, but exploring the best aspects of the hero. Said Hoechlin,

Tyler Hoechlin landed the role of Superman on Supergirl just last month, with the news of his casting hitting the trades in mid-June. The actor will be making his debut as the character in the first episode of the series' second season (which will be the first to air on The CW instead of CBS). He is also set to play a part in the second episode, though that's all we know for now. Given how exciting the presence of Superman is, we expect that he won't be limited to only two appearances -- though one hopes that the showrunners know not to overexpose him when Melissa Benoist's Supergirl really should be taking center stage.

While I can definitely be counted as a fan of Supergirl's first season, the presence of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman has me very excited for the next 20-something episodes. While the show definitely worked without the Man of Steel being a major presence, it was just a tad stupid the way that the show had to dance around his existence. Now that they don't have to, it could lead to some great Superman TV action.

Richard Linklater is an incredibly smart guy -- and one really needs no more evidence of that than the films he's made. From Dazed and Confused to Before Sunrise to Boyhood, he's produced some of the best auteur work of the last 25 years. In addition to being a genius screenwriter and director, however, it turns out that he also has an astonishingly specific memory, which he utilized in a significant way in the making of his recent movie, defending the 1980-set Everybody Wants Some!! from any and all anachronisms.

Timed with the release of Everybody Wants Some!! on Blu-ray and DVD, I recently had the pleasure of hopping on the phone with Tyler Hoechlin (who plays the hyper competitive McReynolds in the movie), and while discussing his work on the film, one thing he noted was the stunning memory possessed by the writer/director calling the shots. I was curious if the fact that the film is semi-autobiographical for Richard Linklater worked in Hoechlin's favor as he was getting into character and embracing the period atmosphere, and the actor responded noting that the filmmaker is gifted when it comes to time and dates. Said Hoechlin,

Tyler Hoechlin noted that this was a big part of the rehearsal process for Everybody Wants Some!! - when they really found the atmosphere for the movie and figured out how it would come together. That being said, Richard Linklater was a constant resource for the actors as they were moving through production and putting together scenes, which was apparently a perfectly relaxed process for Hoechlin and his co-stars. Said the actor,

It all comes together in what is one of the best movies to come out so far in 2016. And if you missed Everybody Wants Some!! when it was in theaters, the good news is that the film is now available for your viewing pleasure. Look for it on Blu-ray and DVD today!

Throughout Supergirl Season 1, Kara Zor-El's much more famous cousin was frequently referenced, but he also "appeared" a couple of times, and by that I mean he was either glimpsed hazily or from afar. Fortunately for Superman fans, it was announced earlier this month that the Man of Steel will finally be fully seen at the beginning of Supergirl Season 2. Since then, fans have been wondering who will play the role, and now it's official. Supergirl has found their new Superman in Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin.

The casting was announced today by DC Comics and The CW, giving fans their newest TV version of Superman to participate on screen in the expansive DC CW multiverse. Hoechlin's iteration of Superman will appear in Supergirl Season 2's first two episodes, though there's no word yet on if there will be other appearances beyond that. There also wasn't a picture of him in the red and blue costume, but with the fall TV season still months away, there's plenty of time to release an image of him before Season 2 premieres.

In the world of Supergirl, Kal-El (Superman's Krytponian name) and Kar Zor-El were both launched off Krypton right before it exploded. The intent was for Kara to look after Kal when they arrived on Earth, as she was a preteen at the time and he was just a baby. However, her pod was accidentally knocked into the Phantom Zone, and by the time she was freed and got to Earth, Kal, a.k.a. Clark Kent on Earth, had already grown up and become Superman, using his mighty abilities to protect his adopted people. Almost a decade later, Kara followed in the footsteps of her now-older cousin and became Supergirl, wanting to inspire humanity just like he has.

Throughout Supergirl Season 1, the show came up with various reasons not to clearly feature Superman. After the incident with Reactron in the third episode, he promised not to get involved with her own crimefighting activities unless she asked. That way, she could grow as a superhero on her own. Still, the fact that his only presence was either from a long distance away or via instant messages started to get weird as the season progressed. That moment when viewers only saw his boots when he was lying in a coma at the DEO base was a head shaker. Now he'll finally get to participate in a meaningful way.

Tyler Hoechlin main claim to fame is playing Derek Hale on MTV's Teen Wolf series. His other credits include Road to Perdition, 7th Heaven, Everybody Wants Some!! and the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker. In addition to Hoechlin, it's been reported that Supergirl is adding five new characters for Season 2, so he'll have plenty of newcomer costars in the months ahead.

After airing its first season on CBS, Supergirl will continue this fall on The CW in its normal timeslot: Mondays at 8 p.m.
