While comedy star Adam Devine has various projects he’s kept busy with, the hope was always to return to the Workaholics franchise that helped make him a name. As one last ride was supposed to be produced as a streaming-exclusive movie, this spring’s cancellation put that possibility on ice. Hope was still in the air though, as Devine and his co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders holm were hoping to sell the project to another streamer.

That prospect doesn’t sound very likely at the moment thanks to an update that The Out-Laws delivered to me personally, during an interview to promote the film. Taking place before the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, both Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev spoke to me about their work on the action rom-com that’s new on Netflix this month.

Naturally, talk turned to this intended conclusion to the Comedy Central sitcom, which ran for seven seasons between 2011 and 2017. The official update that Devine shared with CinemaBlend places the Workaholics movie in this particularly tough spot:

Up until its cancellation, the Workaholics movie was supposed to shoot this past spring. However, when Devine shared the renewal of his Pitch Perfect spinoff series, it came with the news that Paramount+ had pulled the plug on the movie. With just weeks to go before production was supposed to begin, the actor had to deliver news that he described as “the loosest butthole.”

Adam Devine’s news also revealed a rather interesting paradox. On one hand, his announcement of the movie’s cancellation cited a lack of fitting into the platform’s “new “global” strategy” caused the axe to swing. But on the other hand, as seen in the remarks made above by The Out-Laws star, shopping Workaholics’ grand finale is being blocked by Paramount not wanting to sell the rights to the project to anyone who might be remotely interested. 

It’s the worst catch-22 scenario one can think of, especially because Adam Devine's 2016 Netflix movie Game Over, Man! was inspired by a Workaholics episode. With his connection to the studio still pretty strong, especially thanks to The Out-Laws, you'd think that'd be a natural home for this forsaken pitch. 

However, the silver lining for the moment is that actor and Out-Laws co-star Nina Dobrev, who actually appeared on the show because of her desire to work on friend Adam Devine’s sitcom, had her own thoughts on the matter. Sharing with CinemaBlend why she things this project might be in a holding pattern, Dobrev and Devine outlined a cool pitch that could keep this flick alive:

"Nina Dobrev: Maybe they’re waiting for you guys to get a little older, so that it’s even funnier that you’re still the same. You’re like grey…

Adam Devine: …full grey. Blake has lost all of his hair, I’m in an electric wheelchair."

Should Adam Devine get his wish, he’ll get to “bring the weird one last time” with co-stars/friends Blake Anderson and Anders Holm. That is, if the decision-makers at Paramount+ decide to either reverse the cancellation of the Workaholics movie, or if they allow another interested party to produce it. By the time that decision is made, it just might be a good idea to make a version of the project where our trio of slackers are still up to their old tricks, despite the ravages of time. 

Though it's cancelled for now, it sounds like the Workaholics crew are still happy to step up, if and when the time comes. While the world waits for what comes next, the entire run of the series that started it all can currently be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription. As for The Out-Laws, Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev’s runaway romance can only be streamed on Netflix.

There can be a lot of highs and lows in being an actor. On one day you might find out that the TV show you're on is getting renewed, and on another day you might find out that a project you're working on got cancelled. It can be a roller coaster ride... and today, Adam Devine must be experiencing a lot of g-force, as both of those things happened to him within a few hours of each other. 

The bad news came first, and it was personally delivered to fans of the actor via his personal Instagram page. While Devine had recently been excited for the opportunity to reunite with co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm on a Workaholics movie (based on the series on the same name that aired on Comedy Central for seven seasons), that project is no longer happening. In the social media post, he makes several references to notable pieces of lingo from the show – writing that "this news is the loosest butthole" is that he's "butt-hurt" for his co-stars, fans, and filmmakers who were working on the feature. The Workaholics movie was first announced about two years ago, in February 2021, and, as noted in the post, it was being planned as an original for Paramount+. Production was scheduled to start next month.

While one streaming service with a name starting with the letter "P" was dolling out bummer news, another one provided Adam Devine a much more positive update a few hours later. The actor might not be making a new Paramount+ movie, but his Peacock original series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, has been renewed for a Season 2.  

This news was announced via press release by the streamer, which calls the show "Peacock's #1 comedy" and says that it had the "biggest comedy premiere in Peacock history" when it debuted last fall. A spin-off from the successful Pitch Perfect movies, the show's first season premiered on November 23, 2022 and features Adam Devine reprising his role as a cappella singer Bumper Allen. The cast of the show also includes Flula Borg (who was in Pitch Perfect 2), Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova and Jameela Jamil.

Adam Devine also responded to the Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin news on his Instagram page, and, as you can imagine, it strikes a very different tone than what he posted about the cancelled Workaholics movie. His post is below:

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but "@peacocktv gets it" definitely reads like an elbow in the ribs of Paramount+.

While we won't be getting a Workaholics movie now, fans of the Comedy Central series can watch every episode streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. And if you're a Pitch Perfect fan, you should get a Peacock subscription so that you can stream Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin to get ready for the now-in-development Season 2.

Today, we’re talking about the latter, Seinfeld, the definition of what a sitcom comedy should be like. 

With a stellar cast, hilarious jokes, and regular comedy that’s really “about nothing,” Seinfeld is the perfect show to watch when you’re trying to wind down for the day and relax, and it's only gotten more popular over time. With its 2021 arrival on Netflix more and more people have gotten turned onto this fantastic show.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Hulu)

If you’re looking for a show that follows a similar sort of premise - but with more terrible people - than look no further than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. This long-lasting FX comedy follows a gang of friends - siblings Dee and Dennis, their “father,” Frank, and their buddies, Mac and Charlie - in their adventures in Philadelphia. 

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has broken records for being the longest running live-action sitcom ever, with fifteen seasons out and three more on the way in the future. If you want to talk about a loyal fanbase, look no further than this one, especially for fans of Seinfeld. This show is darkly funny, and continues to impress years after its 2005 premiere.

The League (Hulu)

Looking at another FX comedy, did you ever think fantasy football, of all things, could be funny? That’s what The League is all about, following a group of friends who truly love the game, and while they do care for each other, they care about winning more. 

I mean, you want to talk about a friend group that’s always trying to one up each other like Seinfeld, this is your go-to. The League is all about competition and trying to one-up the others to get ahead - even if the way you do it might not be the best way, but damn if it isn’t hilarious. What makes this show even more fun is that, if you’re a fan of football like I am, NFL players tended to pop up regularly in this show. I believe The League deserves a revival for how funny it was.

Arrested Development (Netflix)

This popular show follows the Bluth family, formally wealthy and affluent in society until their father ends up getting arrested for his accounting practices, leaving all their money to get frozen and for the family to wonder what to do. Now, all that’s left is Michael Bluth, and his urge to try and keep the family together - and stable. 

What I think Arrested Development does well for Seinfeld fans is that it feels like that same familiar experience. While this show features an actual family rather than a close friend-group, everyone in this family is so dysfunctional and has their own issues that you’ll be reminded of the Seinfeld cast in no time. Something else I really love about this show are the inside jokes that only you and anyone else that watches the show will understand. It's so meticulously written, everything flows perfectly.

Workaholics (Paramount+)

You ever wanted a cruder version of The Office? Check out Workaholics. This popular Comedy Central show follows three young men who live together and work as telemarketers, following their regular antics and ridiculous moments. 

For fans of the friendship between the main characters in Seinfeld, this show is perfect for you, as that’s what Workaholics is really all about - how having those friendships can change your life. However, the added fact that they all work together only makes it funnier. What makes this show even funnier is the fact that most of the time these guys are high - so you know it’s going to get crazy.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO Max)

You just knew this would be on the list. Curb Your Enthusiasm, starring Larry David, is a hilarious sitcom on HBO that revolves around a fictional version of Larry himself in his everyday life - only his version of the world is far different than everyone else’s version. 

I mean, it’s hard to explain this show to anyone who hasn’t seen an episode. Larry David was the co-creator of Seinfeld, so you know that it’s going to be hilarious for fans of the former show. But, what makes this show even better than Seinfeld is that it’s on HBO, which means that Curb Your Enthusiasm can dive into topics that the other show never could have done before. Larry David’s character is just as selfish, self-destructive and unpredictable as any of the other characters on Seinfeld - which makes it perfect for you, and there’s so many amazing guest stars that it adds even more fun moments to enjoy.

You’re The Worst (Hulu)

Ready for another hilarious FX comedy? Check out You’re the Worst. This fun comedy follows a writer and a PR agent who are both disasters in their own right. So what’s the best way to deal with your problems? Get into a relationship with that other person - right? 

This show is so funny from start to finish. I mean, if you thought some of the things the characters on Seinfeld would do could be uncaring or selfish or any of the above, you are not prepared for what the characters of You’re the Worst do. From start to finish, the relationship that leads this show is ridiculous in all the right ways and you’ll want to watch its destructive path all the way from the beginning.

Veep (HBO Max)

If you’re looking for something that one of the former cast members of Seinfeld did, check out Veep. This amazing HBO show follows a VP who has to fight a lot of battles, both personally and politically, trying to somehow keep the country in check as her chief executive continues to drive her insane. 

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a gem in this show. Truly, if you loved her in Seinfeld, you’ll adore her in Veep. Her acting is even better, and you can’t help but root for Selina Meyer, as she wants to become a legacy in the political world but often gets held up due to other issues going on - like her ridiculous chief executive. The Veep cast is astounding in all the right ways, but Dreyfus always takes the cake as the funniest.

How I Met Your Mother (Hulu)

In this popular comedy, How I Met Your Mother is the longest story told ever, revealing how Ted Mosby met the mother of his children, following his life in New York City alongside his friends, and the relationships that followed.

While the humor in How I Met Your Mother is a bit different than Seinfeld, the jokes are still hilarious. But the one character that reminds me the most of Jerry in How I Met Your Mother is Barney Stinson. He is the most ridiculous, woman-loving and selfish man ever - but even he has this moments of sweetness, just like Jerry would have. The series also takes place in New York City, which is the same exact setting as Seinfeld.

Master Of None (Netflix) 

Moving onto a great Netflix original, Master of None, at least for the first two seasons, follows the life of an actor in New York City, struggling to find work and examines his daily life of trying to find love in the city while also trying to be successful. The third season follows a new couple, and their moments of love in their relationship. 

For fans of the city setting in Seinfeld, I personally think that Master of None is the perfect show to watch. The humor is more subtle and there’s no laugh-track, but I think that’s what makes it so much better than some of the other options out there. Plus, the first two seasons are truly great. Aziz Ansari really shined in his starring role. I wasn’t the hugest fan of the third season ending, but it was still entertaining regardless.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee (Netflix)

Last, but not least, we have Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. This Netflix original, starring Jerry Seinfeld, follows the comedian as he goes to several different comedians' houses, drives them around in his cool car, and goes to get a coffee with them and have a nice conversation. 

From the premise, it doesn’t sound like this show would be too interesting, but if you’re a fan of Jerry’s comedy style (as you should be from watching Seinfeld), you’ll love this show. Seinfeld just has a way with words and his conversations with other comedians are always entertaining and you really get to learn a lot about their personal lives. Plus, if you’re into cars, Jerry’s pure passion for cars is super cool to learn about, and him driving around these awesome vehicles while talking with world-famous comedians like Eddie Murphy, Larry David, and more is always fun.

Even after nine seasons, Seinfeld still finds a way to drag me in every time to enjoy its hilarity, and even now, you have new shows to turn to once you finish binging the series again. No matter what you pick, it’ll be a fun time for sure. 

When people hear the name Topher Grace, they probably think of That '70s Show. That's not a bad thing, necessarily, although remembering the big show he did over a decade ago is a bit of a disservice to the projects he's been part of in Hollywood since.

For those who can't readily think of all those post-Eric Foreman career moves, here's some of the major appearances he's had in both television and film since the Fox series came to an end. (Though it's worth mentioning that he is down for a revival of That '70s Show at some point.)

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

This is probably the second project that comes to mind when people think of Topher Grace, and bears some responsibility for why he left That '70s Show ahead of its final season. Unfortunately, Spider-Man 3 got less acclaim than the first two movies in the Sam Raimi trilogy, and Grace's Eddie Brock didn't get much praise (even from himself). Neither did Tom Hardy's Brock, although Grace didn't get the luxury of a sequel like he did.

The Simpsons (2008)

Much like many celebrities before and after him, Topher Grace has done a guest spot on The Simpsons. This episode is particularly good, however, as "The DeBarted" introduces Topher Grace's Donny in a story similar to The Departed. Donny is a rat for Principal Skinner and informs on Bart's pranks in exchange for rewards. Bart inevitably finds out, and together, they turn the tables and create an ending almost as iconic as the movie it's based on.

Valentine's Day (2010)

On paper, Valentine's Day seems as though it was constructed to be an American version of Love, Actually. While the film knocked it out of the part in casting a bunch of big names and creating a story that intertwines stories within each other, it failed in execution. Topher Grace is just one of the many notable names in this largely forgettable film, which remains the first and one of few feature films to feature Taylor Swift.

Predators (2010)

It's not often one can say a role in the Predator franchise is a highlight in an actor's career, but Topher Grace can say that. The actor was leery to take a role in Predators for that reason, but upon reading the script, he told Bloody Disgusting he likened it to the Aliens of the Predator movies. His instincts weren't off, and while it wasn't given incredible reviews, it remains the second highest-acclaimed film of the franchise to date.

Take Me Home Tonight (2011)

Topher Grace got his big break doing a show about the '70s, so why not take a crack at the '80s? Grace plays a grad student thinking about what he's going to do with his life which, as is the case in most movies, means he's about to go on an epic adventure. He does just that in a movie that didn't win a lot of praise, but may be enjoyed by fans of '80s movies.

Interstellar (2014)

Topher Grace had a smaller, but notable role in Interstellar, as he played Murph's friend Getty. The two share a kiss at one point in the film, and while that's not a major plot point of the film, it is a notable scene that elevates the minor character somewhat. That said, can anyone really consider a role in a Christopher Nolan film a small role?

American Ultra (2015)

Years after Spider-Man 3, Topher Grace got another chance to play the villain in a role opposite Jesse Eisenberg in the action-packed American Ultra. For a movie where it feels like everyone is in a role they're not accustomed to, Grace does well as the baddie with a performance that can actually make one's blood boil while watching. To be honest, if he had this same energy when he played Venom, the movie might've turned out better.

Drunk History (2015)

Lots of actors have done Drunk History, but that doesn't make Topher Grace's appearance on the Comedy Central series any less noteworthy. Grace appeared as Milton Bradley in the "Games" episode, in a performance that detailed the famed game-maker's early exploits. It may not be the most memorable celebrity appearance on Drunk History, but it doesn't have to be to get a laugh from anyone who enjoys good comedy.

Workaholics (2017)

Topher Grace found his way into Workaholics in the show's final season and portrayed the tatted-up drug dealer Noel. Part of the humor is just how different Grace looks in the role, but he also has a good bit where Ders is trying to sexually dominate him with a golf ball trick that is as funny as it probably was a choking hazard. Seriously, does anyone else get nervous he's going to swallow one of those while watching?

War Machine (2017)

Brad Pitt's Netflix film War Machine features Topher Grace in a movie that is based off the non-fiction work The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan. Grace plays a former lobbyist who becomes Brad Pitt's General Glen McMahon's civilian media adviser. While critics have complained about the general execution of the story, the talent and acting of the cast make this one worth checking out.

Get Shorty (2017)

Those who have Epix may have noticed Topher Grace in Get Shorty as Tyler Mathis. The actor only had a couple episodes he appeared in for Season 1, and unfortunately wasn't on board back when the series returned for Season 2 in 2018. There's been no word on whether or not he'll ever return, but we got our hopes up because we're loving that beard and long-haired look.

BlacKkKlansman (2018)

One of the biggest roles Topher Grace has taken in recent years, BlacKkKlansman puts the actor in the shoes of former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke. That's a rough role to take, and Grace even received a threatening phone call following taking on the role. Despite that, he played the part and, in the process, gave one of the best big screen performances of his career.

Love, Death & Robots (2019)

Netflix subscribers can enjoy Topher Grace on one of its most-bizarre original series to date, Love, Death & Robots. The short features a couple who discover a lost civilization inside of their ice box. It's a short watch, and while the acting is goofy, it fits within the frame of the short given all that's going on. This is one to put on while figuring out what to binge for the rest of the night.

Warning: spoilers ahead for Netflix's Game Over, Man! Read ahead at your own risk!

It doesn't take long to realize that the new Netflix film Game Over, Man! takes a lot of inspiration from John McTiernan's Die Hard. The 1988 action classic continues to inspire spoofs and send-ups, and this comedy is one of the most overt yet. That said, Kyle Newacheck's Game Over, Man! also ends with a tease for a boat-based sequel called Game Overboard, thus promising something new for the future. In fact, CinemaBlend recently sat down with Game Over, Man! star Blake Anderson to talk about how the sequel could continue to embrace action movie tropes, and he admitted that Game Overboard could potentially serve as a spoof of Speed 2: Cruise Control. Anderson explained:

Because Game Over, Man! already takes clear aim at Die Hard, it only makes sense for Game Overboard to similarly parody a movie that debuted after Die Hard's success. Speed 2: Cruise Control focuses on its two main heroes (Jason Patric and Sandra Bullock) trying to regain control of a hijacked boat (the villain of the movie is a delightfully maniacal Willem Dafoe), and it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to shift gears away from Die Hard and towards the Speed universe.

It's an intriguing possibility, particularly when we consider the fact that this creative team has actually spoofed a Speed movie before. The fan-favorite "Real Time" episode of Workaholics followed the three main characters as they struggled to make it into work ahead of their boss (while still drunk from an evening of partying the night before), and many of the episode's best sequences skewered the bus-based action of Speed, complete with a spoof of Keanu Reeves' pronunciation of the word "cans." They understand this universe, and Blake Anderson seems keen on keeping the momentum going.

Of course, we will just have to wait and see if Game Overboard will actually happen. Netflix has not officially committed to a sequel yet, which means that it's entirely possible for the Game Overboard tease at the end of the first film to serve as a simple Easter egg that won't lead to another full movie -- not unlike what happened in the end credits of 2014's 22 Jump Street. That said, Blake Anderson seems to take the possibility of a full movie seriously, so we will have to wait and see what happens in this new action-comedy landscape.

The Workaholics guys have officially jumped into the movie business with Netflix's Game Over, Man! That said, it looks like the upcoming send-up of Die Hard has some notable roots in their TV years. Specifically, CinemaBlend recently sat down with Blake Anderson to talk about the inspiration for the film, and he explained that its seeds were first planted when they shot the classic "Office Campout" episode of their beloved Comedy Central workplace sitcom. Anderson explained:

There are some clear similarities between "Office Campout" and Game Over, Man! Both take place over the course of a single evening, and both follow the three main heroes as they attempt to survive and fight back in the face of a group of bad guys who invade their place of business. The similarities are not lost on the Workaholics crew, and as Blake Anderson explained to CinemaBlend, the work done on Game Over, Man! was very much inspired by the experience of working on that classic episode.

The "Office Campout" episode of Workaholics is also famous for offering up one of the best jokes in the entire series. Specifically, it's the episode that sparked the famous "Catherine Zeta-Jones, she dips beneath the lasers" Entrapment spoof song that became a fan-favorite moment from Season 1. Check it out, below.

Having said that, there are some differences between Game Over, Man! and "Office Campout" that help create a distinction between the two stories. Most notably, the Netflix film has real stakes, and the threat to the three heroes is very real. By contrast, the "Office Campout" episode was a more offbeat story in which the threat was only in their heads, induced by ingesting too many mushrooms. Moreover, given the fact that Game Over, Man! is a Netflix property, they're allowed to get away with far more risqué and outlandish premises, such as Adam Devine going fully nude. The seed has sprouted, but it has also become its own thing as it has transitioned to the streaming service.

When it comes to the most irreverent television comedies, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Workaholics are both near the top of the list. Now, actors from the two shows are teaming up for an in-development CBS comedy that's guaranteed to be a bit more family-friendly than either of those shows, but entertaining nonetheless. The series will team up It's Always Sunny's Rickety Cricket actor David Hornsby and Workaholics Blake Anderson as two dads both trying to play parent in what could be an exciting tv show.

It all depends on if this presently untitled project makes it to a full series order, as the potential series was added to the development slate just ahead of pilot season. Considering the comedy project already has David Hornsby and Blake Anderson on board as creators and stars of the series, the chances are looking positive that their show will get some sort of order from CBS. As for what the show is about, THR says the series will follow a straight-laced dad whose ex-wife marries a much younger free-spirited husband. The two will share dad duties, and likely butt heads given their character descriptions. Just taking a look at Hornsby and Anderson (who is pictured below), it feels pretty obvious which role is being played by whom.

This comedy Blake Anderson and David Hornsby are working on sounds awfully similar to another CBS comedy that Jon Cryer was working on called Dads and Daughters, although there are enough differences between the two that there's no reason both couldn't be on the same network if they both get a series order. Both Anderson and Hornsby have writing credits for their past aforementioned comedy shows which both have/had successful runs. The new project, should it go to series, will be a homecoming for Hornsby, who starred in the incredibly short-lived comedy How To Be A Gentlemen back in 2011. As for Anderson, he's presently working on the Netflix comedy Game Over, Man with his former Workaholics costars.

As mentioned, the untitled comedy from David Hornsby and Blake Anderson is still in development. Tis a double-edged sword to craft a brevity-minded catchphrase that can permeate the zeitgeist in such a way, or at least the part of the zeitgeist that has a consistently dissipating cloud above it. Workaholics has definitely thrown more than its share of marijuana-laced humor at audiences, and it's far from surprising that "scmoke a bewl" would be the most repetitive callback that makes its way to the stars' ears while they're out and about.

Perhaps it also isn't the most belief-defying thing to hear waiters getting fingered as the ones who make the bewl-schmoking requests the most. Nor that these restaurant servers would be so brazen as to (perhaps sincerely) ask a customer to get high. Sure, there's some leeway there, considering Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson are co-creators and co-promoters of the catchphrase in question, but it's probably better to go with a Waymond joke or a "Best Friends Song" reference over a weed joke. At least in a professional setting.

It turns out that, within that subsection of restaurant-employed Workaholics viewers that make show jokes to the stars, there's actually a smaller and more topic-specific subsection. Here's how Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson put it.

One of the first steps in being a success in the entertainment industry is to know your audience. And though there isn't a textbook on winning over burrito stand employees, being one of the creators of Workaholics apparently carries a lot of cred.

Workaholics unfortunately won't be gracing Comedy Central's primetime lineup with any new episodes (though the hopeful among us will continue holding out for an eventual reunion). But you can watch every single episode that's already been made -- as well as a slew of deleted scenes, cast and crew commentaries, outtake reels and much more -- with the Workaholics: The Complete Series set, which just came out on DVD on Tuesday, June 20. And if you already have the previous six seasons, then pick up the Workaholics: The Final Season set that hit stores the same day. Plus, keep an eye out for their upcoming Netflix comedy feature Game Over, Man.

Earlier this year, Workaholics aired its series finale on Comedy Central. Instead of going out with a bang or finally getting everything they've dreamed, it was pretty much a return to the status quo with drinking beers on the roof. It was a fitting and hilarious end to the show, but why end it in that specific way? CinemaBlend's own Nick Venable caught up with stars Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson for the recent DVD release of both the Workaholics: The Final Season and Workaholics: The Complete Series, and asked the duo about their finale. Instead of going big, the team decided to remain true to the show and focus on friendship, rather than fulfilling that tight butthole life.

It's true that some series tend to wrap up their runs by focusing on the plot or action while actually underserving what it is that people like about the show. Ultimately with Workaholics, the show is about friendship, as all the three guys have is each other (and an endless amount of ways to get high). So on that front, the finale certainly delivered as the guys chose to be friends over finally achieving some level of success.

In the series finale, "Party Gawds," Blake, Adam, and Ders were finally paid to live out the hedonistic lifestyle they've always fashioned themselves having. However, partying every single day is really destructive and it destroys each of them in a hilarious way that fits each of their personalities perfectly. So, they ultimately choose to abandon their "success," but let's be clear: these guys don't deserve any success. The stars feel the same way and they reiterate that really every episode is about reclaiming their friendship.

Even though the guys once again missed their chance at living their dream --and likely will forever -- at least they still have each other...and TelAmeriCorp. TelAmeriCorp is eternal.

There's nothing quite like a prank to mix things up on any TV show, and the characters who pull them off range from evil geniuses to playful punks to simple April Fools enthusiasts. Plenty of pranksters have hit the airwaves over the years, and some have been more entertaining than others.

Shows like Punk'd and Candid Camera and even Ellen have guaranteed plenty of nonfictional pranks worth a Youtube binge or two, but there's something to be said for how far fictional pranks can be taken and how much damage can be done without us needing to feel bad for laughing. 9. Homegirl, Workaholics

Workaholics has featured plenty of pranks over the years, most of them orchestrated to not-quite-perfection by Blake, Adam, and/or Anders. If you don't like pranks, Workaholics is simply not the show for you. As it happens, however, the person with the best pranks is not one of the main three guys. The winner is actually none other than Kristy Howard-Clark, a.k.a. Homegirl, who managed to literally get the last laugh over the guys.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: Homegirl recorded a video to be played in the event of her death, and she used it to flash the guys, yell "Psych!" one last time, and claim the title of "Main Office Prankster for Life."

8. B.J. Hunnicutt, MASH

MASH was a sitcom that spent 11 seasons with a group of doctors during the Korean War, which wasn't exactly a setting that naturally provided a lot of laughs. Luckily, the docs, nurses, and support staff kept themselves entertained, often with pranks. Hawkeye and B.J. frequently teamed up to pull one over on the others in their unit, but B.J. gets the edge over Hawkeye thanks to the episode "The Joker is Wild." He proved that he was even a better prankster than Hawkeye's previous partner in crime, Trapper John.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: B.J. recruited the rest of the 4077th unit to pretend to be pranked so that Hawkeye would drive himself crazy with suspense, waiting for his turn.

7. Winston, New Girl

New Girl's Winston isn't so much an expert prankster as he is a really, really, really enthusiastic prankster. Naming himself "Prank Sinatra," he believes himself to be the master of pranks, but according to Jess, he usually goes way too far - as when he registered Nick as a sex offender - or not far enough. Still, Winston sometimes gets pranking just right and manages to pull one - or many - over on an unsuspecting victim. Prank Sinatra may not always deliver on his nickname, but it's pretty glorious when he does.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: When Schmidt was irritating him about embracing his culture, Winston turned the tables and began telling escalating lies about his childhood. By the end of the evening, he'd managed to convince Schmidt that they needed to buy some crack.

6. Tim Canterbury, The Office U.K.

The Office may have become a TV sensation on the American side of the pond, but it got its start in the U.K. with an entirely different cast. Martin Freeman played Tim Canterbury, who would alleviate the boredom and frustration of his work at Wernham Hogg by finding new and wicked ways to mess with his co-worker Gareth's mind. If this all sounds familiar... well, you're not wrong. Still, Tim deserves credit for being the first guy at a TV paper company to keep himself entertained by messing with his co-worker, and he was pretty awesome at it.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: Upon discovering that Gareth doesn't like jelly, Tim proceeded to trap his beloved stapler in jelly no fewer than three times. Tim denied Gareth's accusation... while eating jelly in front of him.

5. The Trickster/Gabriel, Supernatural

The Supernatural universe is home to creatures known as Tricksters that thrive on all kinds of mischief and mayhem. There was one in particular that the Winchester boys ran into on a few occasions (and who was secretly the angel Gabriel), and he caused a lot of trouble for them. With his abilities to warp reality, shape-shift, teleport, and conjure anything out of thin air, there were few limits to his power, and he very well could have destroyed Sam and Dean if he'd been so inclined. Luckily for them (and us), the Trickster/Gabriel was much more into messing with them than murdering them.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: The Trickster created a Groundhog Day-esque situation in which Sam relived the same day over and over again, watching Dean die in a wide variety of violent (and surprisingly hilarious) ways.

4. Jake Peralta, Brooklyn Nine-Nine

If we're being totally honest, each member of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast of characters has pulled off at least part of a truly legendary prank. Each year on Halloween, the folks of the 99th Brookyln precinct plot complicated heists that involve escalating pranks, tricks, and ultimately, theft. Of all of them, Jake does deserve the title of best prankster. While Holt is the close runner up for how he uses all of his stern faculties to pull off epic heists, Jake gets the top prize for his attention to detail, thoroughness, and utter delight every Halloween.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: Jake's first Halloween prank, when he managed to steal Captain Holt's Medal of Valor, was one of the first times we saw the dedication and intelligence that makes him a great cop, and it was gloriously elaborate.

3. The Janitor, Scrubs

One of J.D.'s earliest and longest-lasting nemeses throughout the entire run of Scrubs was the Janitor. After an unfortunate incident with a penny and a door, the Janitor made it his ongoing mission to mess with J.D. in as many unexpected and painful ways as possible. Of course, J.D. wasn't the only person at Sacred Heart to fall victim to the Janitor's pranks, but most of the Janitor's especially epic burns came at J.D.'s expense, and they never failed to be funny.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: The Janitor persuaded the entire staff of Sacred Heart to tell J.D. that there's a game called "Jiggly Ball," which J.D. pretended to know how to play. The prank ends with J.D. being mercilessly pelted with tennis balls, having finally learned that there's no such thing as Jiggly Ball.

2. Bart Simpson, The Simpsons

Young Bart Simpson isn't known for pulling highly elaborate gags, but he absolutely deserves his place on the list of legendary pranksters by virtue of the fact that he's been at it for almost 30 years now. Bart has been crank calling Moe over at Moe's Tavern over and over again, asking for folks with names like "I.P. Freely" and "Al Coholic." Moe almost never fails to fall for one of Bart's calls, no matter how many he gets, and he'll probably keep on getting them for years to come.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: On one memorable occasion, Bart was able to prank Moe in person rather than over the phone. Moe was working as substitute teacher in Bart's class, and he called roll for kids named "Anita Bath" and "Maya Buttreeks." Naturally, the prank ended with 10-year-olds laughing and Moe weeping.

1. Jim Halpert, The Office

What other fictional character could possibly go down as the most legendary prankster? Like Tim Canterbury before him, Jim Halpert used a series of complicated and entirely unprofessional pranks on his coworkers to try and keep himself entertained at a highly uninteresting job. His most frequent victim over the nine seasons of the show was Dwight. Jim moved Dwight's entire work station into the bathroom, trapped his office supplies in jello, and once even recreated Dwight's desk and chair out of cardboard, then wrapped them so Dwight would fall when he tried to sit. Bravo, Jim. Bravo.

Crowning Moment Of Glory: While the majority of Jim's pranks were on Dwight, his best has to be when he recruited Pam to help plant Andy's cell phone in the ceiling, then repeatedly called it, to the point that an apoplectic Andy punched a hole in the wall.

Sadly, 2017 is the year that the weed-schmokin' threesome at the center of Comedy Central's Workaholics will say farewell to audiences, but at least we can all give thanks that years of juvenile humor provided creators Adam Devine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Kyle Newacheck a brighter future in the entertainment industry. Things are going dark for a new movie that will team the TV quartet with multi-hyphenate Ben Stiller for a much-desired home at Netflix. Titled The Eggplant Emoji, it's a movie that's ki-i-i-ind of about a guy who gets his penis cut off.

It'd be a stretch to say that The Eggplant Emoji is a stunningly intricate portrayal of an adolescence gone impure. At the heart of it all (or whatever body part) is a teenage boy out with his friends on a camping trip...a trip that goes extraordinarily wrong when his penis is accidentally cut off. Attempts are then made to save the lil' limb before the point of no return. Hard to believe things could still go downhill from that first point, but they definitely can, and according to THR, the tone will be akin to Superbad in the way it mixes R-rated laughs with teen friendships.

With Zoolander 2 as his most recent trip into extreme comedy, Ben Stiller isn't so surprising a name to find behind the scenes of The Eggplant Emoji, and a past cameo on Workaholics is a sensible connection to the other funnymen. The man who embraced a colorful assortment of genitalia gags in There's Something About Mary will be executive producing the film with Nicky Weinstock through their Red Hour Films shingle. Also no strangers to penis-themed antics, Adam Devine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Kyle Newacheck will serve as producers, so you can be sure no one will be stepping in to say something is "too extreme and/or crude."

The Eggplant Emoji was conceived as a spec script from Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, who created the dialogue-driven web comedy Gentlemen Lobsters, which started at GQ and can also be found on NBC's comedy streaming site Seeso. And apparently their spec was quite the hot and gross commodity; Netflix took control of The Eggplant Emoji by beating out five other studios who also had a vested interested in showering dollars on the ribald concept. At a time when reboots and sequels are all the rage, it's interesting that a dude losing his dong was such a magnet for attention.

Unfortunately, no details about release timelines or casting were noted, so it's unclear if Ben Stiller or the Workaholics crew will star or make appearances. Anders Holm wrote the action-comedy Game Over, Man, which Newacheck will direct for Netflix, and Holm will again co-star with Adam Devine and Blake Anderson. Hopefully that means we'll get to see them here, too. While we're waiting to hear more, though, head to our 2017 Netflix schedule to see what else the streaming service will deliver this year.

I am sorry to deliver what is perhaps the most loose butthole news of the day/week/month/year. The world will soon have to figure out what it takes to once again live without the TelAmeriCorp gang in our lives, as it's been announced Workaholics is coming to an end on Comedy Central. But don't go sending Waymond any hatemail or anything, as we will still be getting a seventh and final season out of the trio at the center of the show. And there's a small reason to keep hope alive for something in the future.

News of Workaholics' windup might not come as a surprise to hardcore fans who keep up with the trials and tribulations of creators and actors Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson, as they have talked in the past about possibly making Season 7 the last one for Workaholics. It's a total bummer, and one would have hoped that everyone could have agreed on putting more out there, but the upcoming ten episodes will likely be the last we'll see. Fingers crossed they've pulled out all the stops and punched a couple of new holes when it comes to this last batch of stories. According to Deadline, the official statement said they "decided to leave on a HIGH note. Get it?" Ah, those guys.

Now, I think it's pretty important to mention, especially in today's television climate, that Workaholics was not cancelled by Comedy Central by any means. The decision to end the show was made by Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson, along with co-creator and episode helmer Kyle Newacheck. TV shows never HAVE to die anymore, and these guys have been working together for so long - they started up the comedy troupe Mail Order Comedy in 2006, which later led to the show getting picked up - that it's hard to imagine they'll never ever ever wear their TelAmeriCorp shirts and ties again. After all, they're best friends, like, for real.

Season 7 went into production not too long ago, and we already got our first bit of great news about it earlier today, just before we got the worst news. One guest star viewers can look forward to seeing is former Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, and it'll be her first TV role following her exit of that CW drama. We're betting more big names are coming, too, since Workaholics excels in the guest star department. For instance, last season's wild premiere featured the stellar guest trifecta of Liam Hemsworth, Dane Cook and Pauly Shore. I think I'll go watch that episode again in a minute.

As far as what else we can expect to see from Workaholics' threesome outside of Comedy Central, the biggest project is the troupe's action comedy movie Game Over, Man!, which has been described by the group as "Die Hard with a twist." Adam DeVine is keeping his big screen career going strong with the comedies Why Him? (with Bryan Cranston and James Franco) and When We First Met (with Alexandra Daddario and Robbie Amell). Blake Anderson is doing voice work on various animated shows, such as Voltron: Legendary Defender. Anders Holm will star in the hilarious Judy Greer's directorial debut A Happening of Monumental Proportions, which also stars Allison Janney and Katie Holmes.

No release date has been set just yet for the seventh and final season of Workaholics, but it's coming in the earlier part of 2017. To see everything else you'll be able to find making winter debuts, check out our midseason TV schedule.

Nina Dobrev is best known in showbiz for her time on The CW as the leading lady of The Vampire Diaries. She left the show in 2015 as a regular after six seasons, and she's been scarce on the small screen ever since. Now, Dobrev is returning to television for a brand new role that should let her stretch her comedy muscles. She's joining the cast of Comedy Central's Workaholics for a guest spot in Season 7.

No details are yet available as to what kind of character Nina Dobrev will play on Workaholics, but we can bet that it will be very different from anything she tackled on The CW. Even though she got to play multiple characters on The Vampire Diaries and its spinoff, none of them were exactly cubicle-bound slackers waiting for the next big bong hit. (Vampire High-aries?) Workaholics may present a different side of Nina Dobrev to the world, which could come in handy in the future. Considering that The Vampire Diaries is currently in its last season, she won't even have the option of returning as a regular to delight Elena fans everywhere.

Of course, she hasn't expressed any regrets about her decision to leave the show that made her famous. Nina Dobrev explained her exit from The Vampire Diaries by saying that she always imagined a six-season arc for Elena, and she hasn't even committed to returning for the series finale. A lot of fans have been counting on Elena waking from her magical sleep to rekindle her romance with Damon by the final moments of the series, and showrunner Julie Plec has said that she believes that Dobrev will be back for the end, but TVLine reports that The CW is currently only in discussions with her. Nothing has been finalized. If Dobrev doesn't end up appearing in The Vampire Diaries Season 8, her guest appearance on Workaholics may be the first time that fans will see her back on TV, at least other than a performance on Lip Sync Battle opposite Tim Tebow.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that her guest appearance on Workaholics will result in an ongoing role. The Comedy Central series was at first going on an indefinite break after the conclusion of Season 7, but it was announced today it is ending. But Adam DeVine's career is booming now thanks to his years as Adam DeMamp, so there are worse connections for the actress to make, should she seek more comedic roles. She joins a long line of crazy guest stars, including Ben Stiller, Lorenzo Lamas, Katee Sackhoff and more.

There's no saying at this point whether or not Workaholics is a sign that Nina Dobrev is looking into returning to television full time. She has two big screen projects currently in post-production, with XXX: Return of Xander Cage premiering in January 2017 and Flatliners premiering in August 2017. Hopefully she'll manage to avoid any vampiric love triangles in her career for the foreseeable future. She's probably had enough of those for a while.

Ever since Bruce Willis starred in the original Die Hard, many action movies have tried to copy that success by taking the film's simple formula and giving it minor changes. While we thought we'd seen every possible permutation, this one is new. Adam Devine describes his new film, with his Workaholics co-stars, as Die Hard with complete morons. It's certainly a twist we certainly haven't seen before.

While Adam Devine will next be seen in the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, which opens in theaters today, he's also the co-star of Comedy Central's Workaholics. While fans of the series may be heartbroken to know that the next season of that series is likely to be its last, there is a silver lining. Adam Devine tells Entertainment Weekly that he, along with co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm, are working on a feature film, titled Game Over, Man, which is planning to go into production early next year. Based on Devine's synopsis of the plot, we're certainly curious.

First off, the fact that Adam Devine describes their characters as "maids" rather than "housekeepers" or something more general already has us wondering what this setup is going to be. What hotel still refers to their cleaning staff as maids? We have to assume that this is a place where male cleaners is not the norm, making the hotel itself a curious place to set a movie. Of course, the unorthodox nature of the hotel may be why it is targeted by terrorists.

In the original Die Hard, Bruce Willis' John McClane has a chance to fight the bad guys simply because he gets overlooked and the robbers don't know that he's there. It would make sense this could happen to a couple of "maids" in a large hotel. But if you don't actually have the skill to do anything to fight terrorists, what happens then?

While the setup is very different from Workaholics, we have to assume that the comedy will be similar, as it comes from the same minds. Are these the people you want trying to save you from terrorists?

While a show about a trio of stoner best friends might not have worked out on most TV networks, Workaholics is the second longest-running scripted series on Comedy Central, behind only resident stalwart South Park. Season 7 is currently in development, but it looks like an end is in sight for the show, according to co-creators and stars Adam Devine, Blake Anderson and Anders Holm. And sadly, it's probably coming after Season 7. Here's how Devine put it.

No one should hear that kind of news without "schmerkin' a berl" first, as losing Workaholics on a permanent basis hurts all the way up the butthole, and it is most certainly not a tight butthole. If Devine is to be believed, then we only have ten episodes left of Workaholics, and I will be extremely pissed (or amazingly lax, one of the other) if this isn't the most extreme and mega-bonkers season yet. Can Season 7 surpass such Season 6 highlights as Liam Hemsworth and Dane Cook's intense cameos? Or the guys going berserk inside of a museum? Or the non-ejaculation pact? Sure it can, and hopefully everyone knowing that the end is night will inspire some truly memorable episodes.

However, this might not really be the last season of the fan favorite comedy. Blake Anderson had some slightly more hopeful words for EW.

So there's at least a slight chance that Devine, Anderson and Holm could return for Season 8 at some point in the future, just probably not so soon after the upcoming episodes have ended. And that makes sense. Adam Devine in particular has had his career take off in recent years with films such as Pitch Perfect 2, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, The Intern and Why Him? Blake Anderson has recently popped up all over TV in shows like The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons and Parks and Recreation, as well as the acclaimed feature Dope. And Holm was also in The Intern, as well as this year's How to Be Single, and you'll be able to hear him soon in the animated comedy Sausage Party.

And there's a silver lining here, in that the three actors aren't going to be splitting up or anything even if Workaholics is kaput. They're actually moving forward on the long-gestating action-comedy Game Over, Man!, which Devine described as "sort of Die Hard, but with three idiot John McClanes." I already want to buy tickets to that, and it isn't scheduled to go into production until next March.

If it wasn't already obvious, I don't think it would ever be a good time to put Workaholics to bed. Even if the three main actors/characters were all in their 60s like fellow TelAmeriCorp employee Waymon, the show could still go on mostly as is, just with them bothering Karl for other kinds of medication besides just weed. But before we get to Season 35, we'll have to get to Season 7, which should be premiering at some point in early 2017.

Celebrity interviews are usually predictable affairs, especially on the local news, with conversations generally covering the project in question and little else. But some can go amazingly wrong, as was the case with Workaholics star Blake Anderson, whose promotion for the acclaimed drama Dope included some sloppy conversation before he got kicked off for swearing. It’s priceless.

Everything about this video deserves to go in the Shitty Interview Hall of Fame, from Anderson’s wonderfully blasé attitude about everything to the overzealous morning news man for Cincinnati’s Fox 19 Now. I mean, it starts off with the interviewer misidentifying a bagel as a doughnut, and then letting Anderson know that he’s read that some bagels are less healthy than some doughnuts. I literally can’t think of anything less newsworthy than that, and it almost got Anderson saying “shit,” but he refrained from cursing…that time.

And after a brief stint of him mumbling a bunch of vagueness about Dope as the trailer played, Anderson talks about how tired he is and then dropped an NBA-inspired F-bomb, which got him promptly dropped from the telecast like a boss.

I love it. On Comedy Central’s Workaholics, Anderson plays the same-named character Blake, one of the central trio that spends much more time schmoking bowls and talking tight buttholes than doing their jobs properly. I’m not saying that this kind of behavior is what prompted Anderson’s attitude here, but I don’t know anyone who would be surprised if they learned the actor rolled out of bed while hungover as hell and got his wake and bake on out of a bong named after a movie star. Or maybe that bagel had some kind of a tranquilizer in it.

If you take a close listen to what Anderson is saying, he gives away almost nothing about the movie itself, mentioning that people can sell drugs on the Internet now, and that people in Cincinnati know what’s up. I can’t imagine that the Dope publicity team was enthused by this marketing failure, but it certainly made me laugh and appreciate Anderson’s approach to interviews.

Dope – which also stars Shameik Moore, Kiersey Clemons and Tony Revolori – hits theaters on Friday, June 19, with evening screenings happening tonight.

Ben Stiller’s last trip to the big screen was for his self-directed drama The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and his next trip to the small screen will be on a show that is like one big Walter Mitty daydream, assuming Mitty likes to “schmoke a bewl” every now and then. The Emmy-winning writer/actor/director has signed on for a guest spot in Comedy Central’s no chodes barred series Workaholics, which will kick off its fifth season at some point next year. This news is totally tight butthole.

We won’t even have to wait until the end of the season to see him, as Stiller is set to star in the third episode, called “Front Yard Wrestling,” though Comedy Central reportedly wouldn’t confirm any details about it. Thankfully, TV Line’s sources divulged that the actor will be playing a landlord named Del. And since our central trio – Adam (Adam DeVine), Durs (Anders Holm) and Blake (Blake Anderson) – already have their own home, they must be making a trip to someone else’s house. Though really, there’s no better setting for front yard wrestling than their place, which has been the scene of some pretty serious parties in the past. (Even a disgusting wedding.)

Honestly, when I think about Stiller as a landlord, I just picture him as a balls-out crazy person, like a combination of his roles in Dodgeball and Happy Gilmore. Either way, I think we can all agree that he needs to be wearing a fake mustache for the role. Few people look terrible with facial hair quite as successfully as Stiller, no matter what it’s supposed to look like.

Workaholics, which also co-stars the brilliant Jillian Bell, has had its share of pretty big guest stars in the past. Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz was on an episode, as were Chris Parnell, Rebel Wilson, Chris D’Elia, Rumer Willis, Robert England, Daniel Stern and Jordan Peele, to name but a handful. That said, Ben Stiller is probably the biggest name they’ve had. Though this wasn't for an episode, take a look at the guys talking to Neighbors stars Seth Rogen and Zac Efron while looking for a new cubicle mate.

As it happens, series director Kyle Newacheck, who plays the guys’ dealer Karl, is attached to direct Shore Leave, a Fox comedy that will be produced by Stiller’s Red Hour Productions. Maybe that’s where the connection was made. However it was accomplished, we’re looking forward to seeing Stiller back on the small screen in 2015.

In the grand scheme of things, awards aren’t as important to a series as consistent ratings and a dedicated audience, but there’s a difference in prestige between calling something a “fan-favorite” show and an “award-winning” show. The goal will always be for gold, but it’s become clear over the years that Emmy voters have very little interest in giving certain series their due justice, for one reason or another. We’d love to picket down the streets of Emmyville, raising hell every time a deserved nomination slips through the cracks, but sometimes one just has to accept the way things are. And we accepted those things once again with this morning’s nomination reveals.

As such, here are five series that never got the Primetime Emmy attention they deserve, and probably never will. This obviously isn’t an exhaustive list, and doesn’t reflect the entire TV landscape, but these are series that have been on for multiple years that mostly retained the same level of quality and enjoyment. To be clear, some have been nominated and one even took home an award, but not in one of the top categories. (Not that I’m trying to be an elitist here.) So pour yourself a nice big can of wine and read on!

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Like every show on this list – spoiler alert! – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia works best with its brilliant ensemble cast all on screen at the same time, yelling loudly while madness envelops them. For nine seasons now, with more on the way, The Gang has built a rock solid reputation for itself that neither Nightman nor Dayman would ever dream of challenging. Everything about this show is comedy gold, from a career-best Danny DeVito to the imploding plotlines to the revolving door of side characters that Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (Rob McElhenney) and Dee (Kaitlin Olson) inevitably treat like garbage in order to get their way.

Season 9 was predictably just as hilarious as each of its predecessors, with highlights including The Gang’s attempt to correct their lifelong mistreatment of others, as well as Mac Day and the unparalleled lunacy of the episode “The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6.” And if there’s any question that It’s Always Sunny should make this list, this season even had the episode “The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award,” in which they miss out on winning “Best Bar in Philadelphia," so they head out to mess with the trendy winning bar. If only The Gang could wander through this year’s Outstanding Comedy Series list.

Parenthood

Parenthood has been on the air for five seasons and in that time, this fantastic family-focused network TV drama has only received one Emmy nomination, and that was in 2012 for Jason Ritter (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series). At this point, if Parenthood hasn't gotten the Academy's attention with its outstanding writing, moving story arcs and spectacular acting, odds are, it probably never will.

Parenthood might not be delivering the gritty kind of drama that tends to draw award nominations, but it regularly delves into the challenges of family, marriage and parenting in way that's both entertaining and relatable. For Season 5, it was marital struggles for Julia and Joel, political aspirations for Kristina, and a frustrating but necessary separation for Camille and Zeek as they were faced with conflicting ideas about what they wanted out of life. Even if it couldn't make the list for Outstanding Drama Series -- network TV shows rarely do these days -- it would be nice to see Parenthood's cast praised for their efforts. Alas, the series was snubbed once again this year. On the bright side, while the Academy may not recognize the series often, NBC has continued to support the series. We may not see Parenthood on Emmys night, but it'll be back on the air for Season 6 this fall!

Community

While I’d just as soon forget that its Dan Harmon-free Season 4 ever existed, I thought that Community did a fairly excellent job this past season of regaining its lost pathos and refocusing the frequently sardonic satire. But still, no recognition for those efforts from the Emmys, which has only ever given the pop culture savvy series attention for Chris McKenna’s timeline-jumping “Remedial Chaos Theory,” which lost to Louie’s “Pregnant.” To be fair, Drew Hodges did take top honors for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for the Claymation in 2011’s “Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas,” but the series was deserving of much more in its prime.

Community’s cast and crew will have even more trouble getting rewarded for their efforts now that the series is moving from NBC to Yahoo!, though this year’s abundance of Netflix series noms could give way to more online projects in the future. Still, the doomed combination of Donald Glover’s absence and a past-its-prime Season 6 will likely keep the comedy from making big waves when nominations are announced next year. Maybe we should start looking forward to how well a Community movie might do at the Oscars. Jonathan Banks: For Your Consideration.

Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy fans have been riding through SAMCRO’s world for six seasons now, and Kurt Sutter’s dark and hyper-violent drama has yet to bag any nominations other than a first-year nod for Curtis Stigers & the Forest Rangers’ theme song. Sons is approaching the end of its planned seven-season run, and there’s a slight chance that the Hamlet-inspired plotting will transcend its dirty biker stereotype in Emmy brains to finally get recognized as one of TV’s most exciting and enticing dramas. (The mass amounts of dark and odd comedy don’t hurt the dramatic tone, either.) But that probably won’t happen, because hoity-toity prestige series like Mad Men don’t have scenes where characters drown people in tubs full of piss.

So maybe I can accept that Sons of Anarchy won’t find an Outstanding Drama Series award in its future, but it’s gash-smashingly ridiculous that Katey Segal hasn’t ever been on the receiving end of an Outstanding Lead Actress nomination. (I’m pretty sure if she made threats with a carving fork, she’d get nominated for any category she asked.) I’m equally bummed that Walton Goggins isn’t up for Outstanding Guest Actor for playing the transgender starlet Venus Van Dam, whose appearance this season was in a much more emotional place than her S&M-infused debut appearance. Will this be the year Kim Coates or Tommy Flanagan runs and guns it hard enough to find Supporting gold? I say yes, but I won’t be looking life in the eye as I say it.

Workaholics

Like It’s Always Sunny, the Comedy Central series Workaholics has slowly built up a rabid quote-spewing crowd of bowl-schmoking tight butthole fans. Though it was nominated in 2013 for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program, that hardly reflects the top notch work delivered by the cast and writers, who have spent the last four seasons turning blatant ignorance and rage-fueled passivity into an artform. It’s unclear to me how Jim Parsons repeatedly gets nominated for Big Bang Theory’s yawn-worthy Sheldon Cooper, while Adam “DeMamp” DeVine never gets put in the spotlight for delivering a more energetic performance than anything network TV has ever seen.

Okay, so even if DeVine and co-stars Anders Holm, Blake Anderson, Maribeth Monroe and Jillian Bell all get shunned, why can’t the writers and/or director Kyle Newacheck get some love? (Newacheck also plays Karl, the resident dealer and arguably the show’s most blissfully dopey character.) Not only did Workaholics’s Season 4 contain the ecstasy-laced suburban baby shower rave and a quasi-documentary about Karl getting his dick cut off, but we get to see the guys going clown for children’s parties and attempting to steal a bunch of beer by pouring it into the back of a truck. And the only thing better than watching the guys one-up each other in exceedingly crude and immature ways is seeing them fall head-over-heels for a dude even dudeier than they are. (Stan Halen!) This isn’t the most HIGHbrow material in town, but it deserves a place next to the staid comedy of Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory.

BONUS ENTRY: Chopped

With a pronounced focus on sticking to the basics and a lack of exploitative personal drama – although dead relatives play a large part in contestant stories – Chopped is probably my favorite reality show of all time. Weird food. Interesting meals. Big pressure. Respectable judges. It’s all there. And just once I’d like to open the basket and see Ted Allen up for Outstanding Host over Heidi Klum or Tom Bergeron.

Did you know Adam DeVine can sing? Well, if you've seen Pitch Perfect, you do, but fans of Workaholics may not have been aware, which might have been why Conan O'Brien decided to bring the subject up during his interview with the cast this week in anticipation of the series' Season 4 premiere. This led to an airing of grievances for Blake Anderson, who plays Blake Henderson in the Comedy Central series, as Anderson pointed out that they're supposed to be there to talk about teh show, not DeVine's singing abilities. And that led into a rocking musical performance featuring Anderson and DeVine. Because if you can't hug it out through song, does the friendship have any chance?

I mean, Conan did shift the subject away from Workaholics and onto DeVine's non-Workaholic-related singing abilities and involvement in the excellent a cappella-focused comedy Pitch Perfect. Anderson had a point. But DeVine had an even better comeback. A song and tribute to his best friend. His loyalty and appreciation for his fan is clearly equal to his singing abilities. Everybody wins. I think things really take off right at the point where DeVine gets rough with the centerpiece:

But back to Workaholics, as mentioned, the Comedy Central comedy returned last night for its fourth season. Here are a couple of clips from the episode.

In the few years I've covered Comic Con, I don't think I've ever seen a panel as raucous and funny as the Workaholics panel. This year marks the second appearance for the Comedy Central hit series at SDCC and, after easily filling a smaller room last year, the boys were bumped to the Indigo Ballroom. And they had no trouble packing the house or bringing it down. Sorry.

I should have known things would get rowdy before the event even began but I knew we were in for something a little unorthodox when Tom Green turned up to moderate. "My bum is on the cheese, my bum is one the cheese." Green showed up last season on the comedy as a cyborg so his inclusion in the proceedings wasn't entirely out of the blue and he turned out to be a great hype man. After working the crowd into a frenzy by screaming 'make some noise,' Green then introduced the stars, co-creators, writers, and executive producers Blake Anderson, Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck.

The excitement didn't let up when the boys hit the stage, the four of them working the crowd like superstars. Devine then let slip how their first choice to moderate the panel was porn star Lisa Ann but she turned them down forcing them to go with Green instead. They also wanted to give a shout out to sandwiches and inform the crowd that instead of pinching themselves to see if Workaholics success was real, they pinch each other at night. Late at night.

Green's question continued in a similar vein, asking the boys do explain the origin of 'tight buttholes' to which Devine quickly called back his Lisa Ann joke. The real story is much less exciting but still worth sharing. After realizing that 'tits' was arbitrarily made into another word for cool, they figured that they could literally say anything to express the same sentiment, hence the tight buttholes. A lot of their material comes about the same way, with the four of them just 'Joshua-ing' around in the writers room. Even with the increased budget thanks to the shows success they have been able to do more but they always 'attack' the comedy the same way as they did making YouTube shorts together in their house.

As for some sneak peeks at next season, no footage was shown (it's a ways off) and the boys stayed tight-lipped, only adding that they might almost get laid. Might as well cast some hot chicks to have around the set. Oh, and Denzel and Jamie Foxx are set to appear but I think they were Joshua-ing. Things also got personal with Blake sharing the story of how he broke his back (with Adam adding how terrible a friend he is, suggesting that his roommate simply sleep it off) and the tragic loss of Jetset. They discussed how the man from the 'future-past' was first cast on the show as well as their gut feelings when he didn't show up for the last day of shooting. Blake and Ders looked close to tears before Adam broke the tension by yelling that the question really killed the mood.

It didn't take long for them to have the room back in stitches though, first with Blake stealing a phrase from the audience (a 'sneak phrase') before Ders broke out in a little fiery freestyle rap. He tried to pass the mic but the other boys didn't want it. They also quickly shared what it was like to guest on The Mindy Project and Arrested Development ('totally kick-ass awesome) before Blake and Adam got into a heated argument. The tiff about Adam being an attention hog resulted in the two Workaholics walking off stage only to return for a reconciliation ballad. Yep, they broke out in song. Twice.

They really know how to work a crowd and with charisma like that, I'd expect to see a lot more from Adam, Blake and the Ders. Maybe something like an action comedy written and starring them, produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Until then, catch the boys back on Comedy Central when Workaholics returns for Season 4 next year.

The guys who star in Workaholics aren't exactly household names, but they're slowly getting there, and in the middle of their Comic-Con panel today they revealed what that next step might be. Answering a fan question about their future projects, the guys-- that's Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine and Anders Holm-- revealed that they are working together on an action comedy script that all three would also star in. And this isn't the kind of thing where you and your buddies get together to bang out a screenplay for fun. They've got Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on board to produce along with Scott Rudin, one of the most powerful and prolific producers currently working.

Rudin is the force behind recent Oscar nominees like There Will Be Blood and The Social Network with a ridiculous diverse resume, from The Addams Family and Sister Act back in the 90s to this year's Frances Ha and the Coen Brothers' upcoming Inside Llewyn Davis. So while it's tempting to say we didn't exactly expect him to back a project from the Workaholics guys, the guy seems to live for the element of surprise. So far as we know this script hasn't been officially announced before, and even though DeVine was a member of the breakout cast of Pitch Perfect, none of the guys seem to have any higher profile projects in the future. Does that mean we can hope to see this one going soon?

Eh, don't get too excited-- promising comedians are handed development deals pretty often, and there's no guarantee that what the Workaholics guys come up with will be seen as a viable movie by Rudin or anyone else who would pony up the cash. But if you're a Workaholics fan, know that powerful people in Hollywood are fans with you… and if we're lucky, we'll see the trio stick together for something bigger and more action-packed than we've seen them do before.

Arrested Development might have struggled in the ratings but the series never lacked for guest stars and great ones at that. From Academy Award winners like Liza Minneli and Charlize Theron to fan favorites like Charles in Charge (Scott Baio) as Bob Loblaw and Apollo Creed as, well, himself, Carl Weathers. And it seems like the revival of AD on Netflix has got itself a stew going with this season's guests.

As previously reported, the comedy not only officially began production, with word that each and every one of those Bluths will be back, but also revealed the first few special appearances. Jason Bateman, the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together, has been busy tweeting updates from the early stages of production and yesterday's announcement of "First day. Away we go..." was accompanied by this behind the scenes photo of the Workaholics team on the set of Mitch Hurwtiz' resurrected comedy.

Based on the photo, it looks like the actors from the Comedy Central hit could be playing employees at an airport with Anders Holm and Adam Devine working the counter. With each episode of the new season supposedly set to focus on one Bluth, this sequence could involve Michael's return to Newport Beach.

If you're hoping Blake Anderson will be joining Workaholics co-stars Holm and Devine for the possible Arrested guest spot, rest easy and take a look at the photo, first shared by a gentleman named J.Dub and retweeted by Holm, that proves he's not only there but also dressed in the same get-up as Devine.

These guys really are Workaholics. Wow, that was a bad one. Arrested Development is returning to Netflix for Season 4 with 10 episodes dropping on the same, unannounced, day in 2013.
