The first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is here, and at the risk of sounding alarmist, I'm worried. While I'm excited for the upcoming Marvel movie and know it's going to make a big splash with audiences, I can't help but be concerned about the X-Men and their place in the story.

Kevin Feige already confirmed the upcoming movie is heavily influenced by two prominent comic book storylines, but I have a feeling a third is in play. Is it possible this movie is also influenced by Avengers vs. X-Men, and we're going to see an adaptation of that play out in the movie?

Why I Think Avengers: Doomsday May Be Loosely Adapting Avengers Vs. X-Men

If you watch the Avengers: Doomsday trailer clearly, one thing stands out above all else. The Avengers and the X-Men are never seen fighting alongside each other or meeting, but we see them fighting other Avengers. There's a quick shot of Gambit fighting Shang-Chi, and it also seems Mystique transforms into Yelena Belova in the midst of a battle.

It has me wondering if the X-Men are allied with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, and he's appealing to a cause that benefits both. Note that we see Magneto and Professor X united as equals at a table, rather than at odds. Also, Gambit and Mystique are usually on opposing sides in the comics, so why would they both be fighting the Avengers?

The Avengers vs. X-Men arc is more than just the name implies, of course, as you'd also need a character who can harness the Phoenix Force to complete that. Oh wait, isn't Sadie Sink heavily rumored to be playing Jean Grey in the MCU? You know, the same Grey who has harnessed the Phoenix Force before?

The comics had Hope Summers be the conduit to the power, but that doesn't mean the Russos and Marvel Studios couldn't take some creative liberties. To me, it feels like the table is set for Avengers: Doomsday to loosely adapt Avengers vs. X-Men, and factor in Doctor Doom to help get his story off the ground. Is it possible these mutants, and ones we haven't seen yet, are the "bad guys" in this?

I Would Sooner See That Story Told In A Separate Film, Not As The B-Plot To Service Doomsday

I would love to see Avengers vs. X-Men adapted in the MCU, but not like this. The story of the mutants being torn between saving their species and fighting The Avengers is fantastic and worthy of its own movie. I'd rather see that fleshed out in a meaningful way, rather than pared down just to fill time for Avengers: Doomsday to cross the finish line.

To be clear, I have no idea whether Avengers vs. X-Men is going to be adapted at all in Avengers: Doomsday. Regardless, I still have questions about the X-Men's involvement in the MCU overall, and how they factor into this story.

What I will say is that I've been waiting too long to see the modern iterations of the Mutants added to the MCU, and I would hate to have one of its better stories used as a B-plot when there are plenty of other ways to handle a Doctor Doom story. Unfortunately, it's all cut and in the can now, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see alongside others what this story will be about.

Avengers: Doomsday is in theaters on December 18th. I'm excited for its release for now, and hoping we get more information on what's going on with the mutants closer to its release date.

One of the biggest questions related to any upcoming Marvel movies revolves around Sadie Sink’s mysteriously unspecified new role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which the stars have been keen to troll fans over. The two biggest theories have her playing either Spidey’s comic love interest Gwen Stacey, which seems fitting, or the all-powerful Jean Grey. (With a third avenue being that she’s actually one of the film’s many villains.)

Now, it appears we can remove the mutant telepath from the rumor mill, as Spidey portrayer Tom Holland himself has shut down the notion that Jean Grey will be in Brand New Day at all. In an interview with Natalia Kreuser (via Instagram), the actor was asked point-blank about the X-Men heroine, and he didn’t even craftily attempt to beat around the bush with his answer. As he put it:

There you have it, sports fans. Tom Holland, one of the crown kings of MCU spoilers, has seemingly confirmed that Jean Grey will NOT show up during the runtime of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

I Hope Tom Holland Is Telling The Truth Here

As awesome as it would genuinely be for the MCU's revamped Jean Grey to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it seemingly doesn't make that much sense for these characters' timelines, given the all-around lack of confirmed mutants on this Earth. That will all change with Avengers: Doomsday, which Kevin Feige pretty much explained will wipe out the timeline for Fox's X-Men characters, and then a new lineup of character will rise up to take their places for Secret Wars and beyond.

As such, it would be bizarre for the first new mutant to show up in this movie, five months before Doomsday hits. theaters, right? I think so, unless her arrival plays directly into how the storyline flips things around to set-up Spidey's eventual return in an Avengers sequel. But that just seems too messy for a movie that already has a dozen supporting characters. (O.G. Jean Grey Famke Janssen reportedly isn't in Doomsday, but I'm not sure that necessarily means anything about

Another reason I think we can hopefully trust Tom Holland here is because he's become so known for blabbing about details that others may have kept closer to the vest. And him shutting down rumors about a character's appearance is a more forgivable spoiler than if he'd come out and said exactly who Sink is playing. It's like Marvel producers gave him an olive branch by allowing him to say this one thing.

But maybe he IS lying, or is being controlled by the real Jean Grey to tell fans what she wants us to hear. Check out the interview clip below and see whether or not you think Tom Holland could be fibbing it up for the sake of the mystery.

It’s somehow been almost three years since Marvel confirmed a new era of live-action X-Men adventures, and we’re still months away from seeing the mutant group’s return in full for Avengers: Doomsday. (The first full-length trailer gave us some hints of what’s to come.) With the Russo brothers’ busy helming Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems like a good time to wonder what Kevin Feige & Co. are planning to do with these beloved characters in the aftermath of these mega-sequels.

Thankfully, Marvel Studios’ big bossman offered up some solid insights into the X-Men’s future while speaking with journalists during a press event in Shanghai, China (via Weibo). He first talked about the state of things between Endgame’s release and Doomsday, while also speaking to the idea that the O.G. X-Men films were as much an organic starting point for the next couple of upcoming Marvel movies, even if that universe will likely get destroyed via incursion.

Just hearing the words "streamlined" and "simplified" coming out of Kevin Feige's mouth feel revolutionary, given how convoluted and messy things have gotten in recent years between big-screen features and TV projects streaming via Disney+ subscription. So cue all the sighs of relief on that note.

On a more downbeat note, Feige does use the phrase "bring some storylines to a close" in reference to the mutant clan, which does not bode well for any of the OG actors' characters surviving Doomsday and Secret Wars. If anyone could do it, it'd be Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, but it's possible that he'll be hanging his claws up before the next Phase kicks off.

To that end, Feige talked about the goal of bringing younger audiences into the MCU fandom, and having to look beyond just the most popular X-Men hero to make it happen.

I'd much prefer a multi-stage saga than another multiverse saga right now, so that all tracks. Although I do wonder if the plan to skew younger also applies to the aforementioned Deadpool, since Ryan Reynolds only just this week confirmed that Deadpool 4 is in the works. Will that movie feature some kind of passing-of-the-torch between Reynolds' Wade Wilson and someone else? Ehhhh.

Kevin Feige revealed that the latest studio exec meeting centered on planning the next 16 years of potential feature releases, going up to 2042. Which isn't to say that every one of those plans will play out successfully, but just in case anyone things they're sitting around and winging it.

Kevin Feige's Amusingly Simple Take On Fox's X-Men Movies

Though the goal is obviously to give fans something new with the X-Men's arrival in the MCU, Feige certainly isn't ignoring everything that came before, and I can't stop chuckling over his brevity and limited word choices when sharing opinions about Fox's entire X-Men franchise lineup. (Not that he was expected to go on at length with his critiques or anything.) As he put it:

How hilarious would it have been if Kevin Feige was seen on-camera for local news on premiere night for 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, and when asked how he liked it, he just said, "I think it hasn't lived up to expectations."

That is such a funny and diplomatic way to make an assessment like, "This was a steaming pile of dogshit." Not that I'm trying to put words in Feige's mouth or anything. Hell, maybe that was one that he really liked. (Hopefully not.) I may nip that phrasing in the future for when Secret Invasion comes up again, assuming anyone ever talks about Secret Invasion again.

As exciting as it is to think about what a future will look like with all-new mutants comprising the X-Men, director Jake Schreier told CinemaBlend how difficult rebooting things for the MCU can be, and a lot of decisions will need to be made. And we'll be here to talk about them all.

Hugh Jackman may have once had a definitive X-Men ending in Logan, but no more. Since his Deadpool & Wolverine return in 2024, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he appears in one of the next Marvel movies. And, as of late, Jackman has been incredibly open about his gym routine. Those workout posts have, unsurprisingly, prompted fans to mention his adamantium-clawed alter ego.

In the past few weeks, Jackman has posted two videos of himself back on a workout routine of sorts. Check out this one from July 1, and try not to get winded while watching it:

Whoa, Jackman’s really putting in the work! In the video above, the movie star is seen doing pushups with massive chains around his neck. In the caption he wrote “best to stay fit” without saying why. I totally get why fans are getting suspicious of the actor returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If he’s doing this workout all the time he’s definitely going to be Wolverine ripped in no time. Here’s another one he posted this week:

‘Til he’s 90! Since Hugh Jackman has already been the lead in two 2026 movie schedule entries, you know he’s already been dodging questions about whether he’s in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Jackman has been staying strong and not saying much but, back in December, he did say that his gut was telling him he’s “not done” with Wolverine.

Avengers: Doomsday will definitely have some X-Men actors in it of course. We already know for sure that Ian McKellan’s Magneto, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and James Marsden’s Cyclops are in the December 2026 release. Additionally, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum’s Gambit will also be in the movie.

There have also been all sorts of rumors as of late about A-list movie stars filling roles in upcoming X-Men reboot. Adam Driver is rumored to be the new Magneto and a report about Margot Robbie playing Mystique has also gotten around. Some people theorize that the next set of MCU films will be called “The Mutant Saga”.

Marvel Studios is returning to San Diego Comic Con for a massive Hall H panel next weekend, so it’s very possible we’ll know more about the future of X-Men in a week. Of course, that's just speculation, so I’d definitely take Hugh Jackman’s workout videos at face value (for now)!

Given Margot Robbie’s stellar performance as Harley Quinn, it's understandable as to why fans would want to see her in more superhero fare. In that regard, she's been the subject of various casting rumors over the years, even Invisible Woman chatter linked to Matt Shakman's The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It's more recently been alleged that she may make the jump from the DCU to the MCU. Obviously, nothing is set in stone as far as the general public knows but, regardless, the characters mentioned in this latest report are excellent.

Superhero movie-related rumors can definitely be wild, and this latest bit of gossip on Robbie from Main Middle Man on X fits the bill. However, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't at least be intrigued by the notion of her playing either of the two roles mentioned:

So, first and foremost, both of these characters have ties to X-Men, which is being rebooted at Marvel Studios. The notion of Robbie playing the diamond-shelled telepath Emma Frost would make a lot of sense. The Barbie star definitely looks like the character and has the charisma needed to play her. Yet she'd also be an intriguing pick for Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, the blue, shapeshifter who's typically portrayed as Magneto's right-hand woman.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that fans have all kinds of thoughts. In terms of a potential Mystique casting, one fan, Rain, ask if she would be a “variant like how Cavill was for Wolverine?” That's a fair question, considering the MCU is still in the midst of the Multiverse Saga. It's also worth mentioning that Rebecca Romijn is reprising her role as Mystique (from the 2000s X-Men flicks) in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

There are also some fans who seem to think Margot Robbie would be a better fit for another X-Men character. A couple of users suggested she should play Rogue, who was previously played Anna Paquin on the big screen. They're particularly interested in Rogue's ability to take - and use - the powers of fellow mutants. On that note, Flashpoint56 says:

Nevertheless, there does seem to be fan-based interest in Robbie taking on the role of Raven. One fan in the comments even pitched another Marvel Special Presentation that could show Mystique giving birth to Nightcrawler. Such a project is probably a long shot but, hey, wilder things have happened right?

As far as Marvel's mutants go, I'm not sure just how many people would've expected Romijn to return for Doomsday or Alan Cumming to return to his role as Nightcrawler in that film as well. The pair will also be joined by fellow X-Men franchise alums like James Marsden, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, who are reprising, Cyclops, Professor X and Magneto, respectively.

On the whole, what seems to be very clear is that fans and scoopers are clamoring for news on the cinematic future of the X-Men. Rumors have been flying around left and right and, just this week, it was alleged that Adam Driver was in contention for Magneto in the Jake Schreier-helmed reboot.

More rumors are bound to crop up in the lead-up to the reboot, and fellow upcoming Marvel movies Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. For now, though, I like the notion of Margot Robbie joining this world and, even if she doesn't play a mutant, I'm sure there's a place for her within the franchise.

Marvel Studios has not yet introduced the MCU’s new X-Men lineup, but the internet has already started casting actors in capes and helmets. The latest mutant casting rumor places Adam Driver beneath Magneto’s familiar headgear for the highly anticipated Marvel films, and two pieces of fan art make a surprisingly convincing case for the Star Wars actor as the Master of Magnetism.

Popular fan art maestro BossLogic shared his interpretation on Instagram, noting that the casting was still only a rumor he “wanted to try out.” The artwork, which you can see below, gives Driver long silver hair, a dark red suit and a flowing purple cape, with Magneto’s helmet floating beside him as scraps of metal twist through the air.

The art is dramatic, moody and just close enough to Kylo Ren to make the comparison unavoidable. But, where exactly are these rumors coming from?

Where Did The Adam Driver As Magneto Rumor Come From?

The chatter began after scooper MyTimeToShineHello claimed Driver had been cast as the villain in Marvel’s X-Men reboot. The post did not name a character, but another online source, Apocalyptic Horseman, responded that the Marriage Story star would play Magneto. The report remains unconfirmed, and Marvel has not announced the Girls alum as part of the movie.

So this belongs in the rumor pile. Driver has been linked to Marvel roles before, including Reed Richards during the long Fantastic Four casting process, so his name appearing in another round of MCU speculation is hardly shocking. Still, Magneto feels more plausible than some of the other possibilities. The actor is particularly good at playing wounded men whose convictions harden into something frightening. And, with two new pieces of fan art to visualize how it could look, I'm seeing it more and more.

The Fan Art Makes A Strong Case For The Casting

BossLogic’s image emphasizes Magneto’s destructive power, but artist Spdrmnkyxxiii took a more regal approach. The second design places the Kylo Ren performer in the classic red-and-purple colors, seated behind Magneto’s helmet with glowing eyes and the posture of someone deciding whether the room deserves to remain standing.

Both images understand that Magneto needs more than a recognizable costume. Ian McKellen brought weary authority to the role, and we get to see him one more time in the 2026 movie schedule release of Avengers: Doomsday, while Michael Fassbender played Erik Lehnsherr with anger that always seemed ready to split the screen. Driver has the height, voice and bruised intensity to follow them without simply copying either performance.

There is a possible downside, though. After Kylo Ren, casting Driver as another gifted, emotionally scarred antagonist dressed in dark colors might feel a little too familiar. Magneto would need to become more than Kylo, with better posture and a bit more control over his anger.

What We Know About Jake Schreier’s X-Men Reboot

Thunderbolts* filmmaker Jake Schreier is directing Marvel’s new X-Men movie. He has described the material as complex and suggested the reboot will look recognizably different from the previous Fox franchise. Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo are working on the screenplay, although Marvel has not announced the cast or a release date for the upcoming Marvel movie.

Kevin Feige has also described the project as youth-focused, which raises questions about where an established actor such as Driver would fit. Magneto could remain older than the core team, of course, giving the younger mutants a formidable ideological opponent rather than another classmate.

For now, the artwork is doing far more work than the evidence. Yet if The Man Who Killed Don Quixote lead eventually walks onto a Comic-Con stage holding that helmet, fans will already know the look works.

Superhero movies might be everywhere nowadays, but the X-Men movies hit theaters prior to shared universes becoming commonplace. That franchise (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription) was a big risk at the time, although the movies are still regularly re-watched to this day. Halle Berry recently posted to celebrate X-Men's anniversary, and I'm still really hoping she ends up in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday has been limited, but fans are hyped that a number of OG X-Men stars will reprise their roles. Unfortunately, Halle Berry isn't expected to be included, although her Twitter post celebrating the 2000 movie is turning heads. She included a promo photo of her as Storm, with the caption reading:

While Alexandra Shipp played the role in two of the final X-Men movies, Halle Berry is the quintessential Storm for many fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order. And her post about the movie's anniversary has fans (including me) hoping she'll end up with a role in Doomsday after all.

Halle Berry may have denied having a role in the next Avengers movie, but that hasn't stopped fans from holding out hope. In fact, the comments section to her viral Storm tweet is filled with fans wishing for just that. Some responses read:

• posting this the same day doomsday ticket date announced- do you have something to share with the class?
• Could this be a hint that she'll return as Storm?
• Storm is an absolute legend. Thank you for bringing her to life all those years ago, Halle. Still iconic 26 years later
• I still wish for Storm to return in Doomsday

Clearly there is a ton of love for Halle Berry's run as Storm to this day, despite her last performance being in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. And fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the Oscar-winning actress will end up appearing in Avengers: Doomsday after all.

While Berry denied having a role in the next Avengers movie, that hasn't stopped the online discourse about her possible return as Storm. After all, fans have been deceived to by comic book actors before. Case in point: Andrew Garfield lied about his Spider-Man: No Way Home role for about a year before the movie hit theaters.

We'll just have to wait and see if Storm pops up when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list. And with Jake Schreier's X-Men movie in development, only time will tell if a new Storm actress ends up taking the mantle of the Omega Level Mutant.

Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Carrie series was always going to need more story. Namely because Stephen King’s debut novel is short, the prom has already been burned into pop culture by Brian De Palma’s 1976 movie, and Prime Video ordered eight episodes rather than another two-hour page-to-screen adaptation. Flanagan has earned plenty of trust with King material, but the first details about how he plans to expand Carrie White’s world have given me pause. Honestly, it just sounds too much like X-Men.

In Entertainment Weekly’s first look at Carrie, Flanagan explained that the series will explore the science behind telekinesis and connect its title character to other women with similar abilities. If you've read all of Stephen Kings books like I have, you know the material has roots in his novel, but the showrunner’s description sounds much closer to the foundation of a new superhero movie mythology than the intimate horror story I associate with Carrie. Flanagan explained:

There is something compelling buried in that idea. King’s novel includes reports, testimony and scientific speculation surrounding what happened in Chamberlain, Maine. Previous movies largely discarded that material to stay close to Carrie, Margaret White and the approaching disaster at prom. A streaming series has room to recover pieces that never fit comfortably into those films.

Still, words such as “gene,” “larger universe” and “gifted women” set off my superhero alarm. Put them together, and the upcoming horror series begins to sound less like a frightened teenager discovering something impossible and more like a mutant who has not yet found Professor Xavier’s school. The powers in Carrie should feel isolating and dangerous. Turning them into membership in a secret supernatural sorority risks making the character less singular.

My concern grew when Flanagan revealed that, beginning with Episode 2, each installment will open with a different woman somewhere else in the world and at another point in time discovering her abilities. That could become a clever series of miniature horror stories. It could also feel like the Carrie series keeps leaving Carrie to build lore for a larger mythology.

Upon hearing this, my mind immediately went to Stranger Things 2 and “The Lost Sister,” the divisive episode that sent Eleven to meet another powered test subject. The concept made sense within the show, but the detour felt to many viewers like a backdoor pilot interrupting the story they were already invested in. Carrie introducing a new gifted woman every week could create a similar problem if those segments begin to resemble a setup for a telekinetic team-up.

In my opinion, Carrie White does not need mentors, a mythology lesson or a broader mission. Her story works because she is unprepared for both her abilities and the cruelty around her. The horror comes from watching years of abuse and humiliation collide with power she cannot control.

Flanagan may still pull this off. I mean, I have faith as he's created some of my favorite horror movies and series in recent memory. King reportedly approved the new approach and serves as an executive producer, while Flanagan’s previous adaptations have shown how dramatically he can reshape source material without losing its emotional core. For now, though, the “TK gene” is the first Carrie detail that worries me. I want a tragedy soaked in blood, not the opening chapter of the Telekinetic Cinematic Universe.

Carrie is expected to premiere on Prime Video's 2026 streaming schedule in the fall for subscribers with a Prime Video subscription.

The horror genre has been thriving for years now, to the delight of fans like me. Obsession became a wild box office success this year, and has made household names out of its cast, especially Nikki actress Inde Navarrette. She recently confirmed she met with director Jake Schreier, who will helm the new X-Men movie. And fans think they know which mutants she could play in that upcoming Marvel movie.

After Obsession's insane success, moviegoers are curious about what's next for Navarrette, and if she'll be recognized during Awards Season like Weapons' Amy Madigan. During an interview with Nylon, the 25-year-old actress was asked if she'd do a Marvel movie, responding with:

She also confirmed to the outlet that she's already met with Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts* and will once again be behind the camera for the developing X-Men movie. This news turned heads for fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order and can't wait for mutants to finally take center stage.

A thread over on Reddit responded to the news that Navarrette met with Schreier, with folks sounding off about which X-Men character they think she'd be great playing. The responses read as follows:

• ​Inde is my top choice to play Mystique. The woman has a REALLY expressive face that could portray a lot of great emotion even with the makeup.
• She would definitely make a great Laura Kinney.
• I'd rather they keep Dafne Keen who's just 21 as Laura in the reseted universe and cast Navarrette as Kitty Pride.
• Shes Psylocke for me.

Clearly there's a ton of love for the X-Men, and fans are hyped about the idea of Inde Navarrette joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We'll just have to wait and see if she actually joins the cast of Schreier's developing blockbuster, and if any of the above casting guesses end up being legit.

Out of the four characters listed above, I think I'm most inclined to see Navarrette as Mystique. She was basically playing two characters in Obsession, which shows how transformative she can be. Of course, she'd have some big shoes to fill thanks to the role previously being played by Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence. Although I could honestly see her as X-23, Psylocke, or Kitty Pride as well. Talk about versatility.

For years, mutants were noticeably missing in the MCU, but Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox finally opened the door for the X-Men to join the fun. Since then, characters have been used here and there, and the OG actors from Fox's franchise will appear in the next Avengers movie. But Schreier is expected to bring in a new group of actors for his movie.

It's currently unclear when the X-Men movie will hit theaters, but a handful of mutants will appear in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list. As for Obsession, it's available for rent or home purchase now and will arrive on Peacock on July 17th.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for constantly releasing developing and releasing new titles, both in theater and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. While fans are hyped for upcoming Marvel movies, there are countless rumors about what Kevin Feige and company are planning. And a new report claims he wants Anya Taylor-Joy for a role that'll please longtime X-Men fans.

Folks who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order will recall how the X-Men movies lasted from 2000 to 2020, with the final chapter being Josh Boone's The New Mutants. That movie featured an ensemble cast including Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy, and a rumor posted on MTTSH's Twitter claims that the latter might be reprising her role in the MCU. It reads:

Honestly, take my money. Because while I'm hyped for mutants to finally join the fun as part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday as well as in the developing X-Men movie, it would be awesome to see the Queen's Gambit actress get the chance to play Illyana Nikolaievna Rasputina / Magik again on the big screen. She crushed it the first time, despite the movie being released mid-pandemic and being a box office bomb.

Of course, this is just a rumor at this point, one we should probably take with a giant grain of salt. There are countless rumors about the future of the MCU, and not all of them can be true. But it would stand to reason if Kevin Feige wanted to get the Emmy-nominated actress in the shared universe.

While the X-Men were left out of the MCU for its first few phases, Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its properties finally allowed mutants to be brought in. That's a big reason why the previous franchise ended with The New Mutants, and it would be a full circle moment if Anya Taylor-Joy got to reprise her role within the shared universe.

Magick has a long history in the comics, and Anya Taylor-Joy crushed the character's signature attitude and fighting style. She's also the sister of the X-Man Colossus, and fans have been hoping to see these two mutants together on the big screen. So if Kevin Feige actually wants the Split actress to play her again, maybe that's what'll happen. Only time will tell if this rumor ends up being legit.

The New Mutants is streaming now on Disney+. The next Marvel movie hitting theaters is Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st as part of the 2026 movie release list. As or Anya Taylor-Joy, she's got a number of exciting projects coming down the line including Dune: Part Three.

At long last, X-Men ‘97 Season 2’s premiere is about to hit the 2026 TV schedule and reacquaint fans with Charles Xavier and his band of mutant do-gooders. Teasers for the new episodes seem to indicate that fans are in for a fun and emotional ride, which will feature plenty of En Sabah Nur (a.k.a. Apocalypse). While the hype amongst fans of the legacy sequel series still seems to be intact, it’s still hard to believe its hiatus has been so lengthy. Well, like I am, fans may be eager to know the creative team has learned some lessons.

X-Men ‘97’s first season premiered back in March 2024 and, at that time, it was already reported that a second season was in the works. So those new installments are now coming more than two years after Season 1, which is definitely a long stretch of time. But fear not, true believers, as EP Larry Houston shared some good news in regard to the upcoming third season, which was announced this past fall. Fans should not expect long breaks between future seasons, and Houston explained the reason for that to The Direct:

Houston – who produced X-Men: The Animated Series (the direct predecessor of ‘97) – didn’t specify the nature of those “production problems.” However, it’s possible that he may have been alluding to the firing of series creator and ex-showrunner/writer Beau DeMayo. Shortly before Season 1 debuted, DeMayo was let go after an investigation into his workplace conduct. That not only led to a feud between DeMayo and Marvel Studios, but he was also replaced with Matthew Chauncey, leading to episodes also being rewritten.

Given the behind-the-scenes changes, I can understand the gap between Seasons 1 and 2. Still, I’m more than relieved that fans like myself won’t have to wait as long for the third and fourth seasons to arrive down the road. Lengthy hiatuses have unfortunately become a common element within this streaming-dominated entertainment landscape, and that applies to both live-action and animated shows. While it’s understandable that obstacles arise and that production can take time, I’m glad to see a creative team making it a goal to produce new seasons as swiftly as possible.

What’s made the wait for this new season of the critically acclaimed X-Men ’97 particularly excruciating is the fact that there are some key storylines that need to be resolved. The ‘97 Season 1 finale ends with Professor X and co. getting scattered across different time periods, while only a handful of their cohorts remain in the present. The episode also sets up the return of the aforementioned Apocalypse, and it seems to subtly hint at the resurrection of Gambit as one of his Horsemen.

Fans seem to have high hopes for this latest crop of episodes and, hopefully, the collective season will live up to the hype of its predecessor. And, if that does prove to be the case, at the end of the season, fans will be able to take comfort in knowing that the wait for future episodes won’t be too long.

No one could have predicted that Hugh Jackman would still be playing Wolverine 26 years after the original X-Men movie. It never occurred to me as a kid that I’d still be seeing the same actors as my favorite characters when I became an adult. But spotting Jackman in different Marvel projects always makes my younger self so happy. Who else remembers him showing up in First Class with an epic one-liner? He instantly steals the scene every time.

So it’s not surprising that the actor would be reluctant to see anyone else take up the claws. With the multiverse, there is a real probability of seeing another actor playing Wolverine. We did see Henry Cavill's cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine as a variant of the character. And if we can see Superman do it, anything is possible. But I love that when Jackman was asked about that very topic by ProjectBigScreen, he responded with an A+ Deadpool joke while he weighed in on the possibility of being replaced:

I expected nothing less from Jackman. The actor making the role his own is why fans haven’t stopped piling on the Wolverine hype. I wouldn’t be shocked if we see him show up, even in a cameo, in Doomsday. But I would be excited regardless, especially if it was a reunion with James Marsden. Scott and Logan notoriously butted heads over Jean in the early 2000s films, and a little wink to that would make my X-Men loving heart so happy.

I already felt like I had won when Aaron Stanford briefly returned as Pyro in Deadpool and Wolverine, but to learn that other X-Men 2 actors would be coming back for the next Avengers? It’s almost too good to be true. The second X-Men was one of my favorite movies growing up, even if the set was rife with drama, so having Alan Cumming back as Nightcrawler feels like a gift. And I would love to see Jackman reunite with any of his former castmates. However, the actor has been hilariously dodging questions about returning as Wolverine in Doomsday. Though the actor doesn't seem ready to let the character go any time soon. He referenced a joke from his last movie when explaining:

I don't think anyone would mind if Jackman played the role until he's 90. Then maybe we'll be ready to see the character go to someone else. For now, I’m excited to see where the multiverse is going to take us. We have many confirmed returns, including the shocking Robert Downey Jr. come back as Doctor Doom. The character was previously played by Charmed’s Julian McMahon in the underrated Fantastic Four movies in the early 2000s.

While we patiently wait for Doomsday to hit theaters in December 2026, we can check Jackman out in The Sheep Detectives available to stream on Amazon and the polarizing Death of Robin Hood in theaters. But while we see the actor taking up different mantels, that doesn't mean we can't all hope to see him back with his Wolverine hair and claws.... and maybe wish for a reunion or two.

While the comic book genre has been thriving for over a decade, it was more of a risk when the OG X-Men movies hit theaters. Hugh Jackman became a household name for starring as Wolverine, and is known for getting ripped for those movies (which are streaming with a Disney+ subscription). It turns out that he once called The Rock for workout advice... and then got made fun of for his version of a cheat meal.

Dwayne Johnson a wrestler turned actor who has become a bankable movie star, bringing his hulking physicality to each role. During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Jackman confirmed he went to The Rock for advice on getting fit for Wolverine. He told the story by saying the following:

Honestly, this sounds like a pretty cool moment. While Dwayne Johnson offering fitness advice is already a pinch-me moment, the fact that he put his filming schedule aside to help Hugh Jackman is even more thrilling. Clearly it's something that has stuck with the Greatest Showman star, who looks thoroughly yoked every time he plays Wolverine. I guess we have to thank The Rock for helping him get there.

The Tooth Fairy was released back in 2010, in the earlier days of Johnson's tenure as an A-list movie star. By that point Jackman has already starred in the original X-Men trilogy, and wanted to get especially jacked for his Wolverine spinoffs. As fans know, that's exactly what happened. During the same interview, the 57 year-old star of stage and film shared how The Rock made fun of him while offering some nutritional tips. In his words:

Those who follow the Moana actor's social media might not be too surprised by this. Dwayne Johnson regularly posts his cheat meals, and they're absolutely massive ones that usually involve a ton of sweets and overflowing plates. It sounds like Jackman didn't get the memo at first... until The Rock made fun of him and encouraged him to swing harder.

Jackman has been open about how many calories he eats to stay superhero fit, and it seems like Johnson helped him find that winning combination. Now we just need to get these two actors on screen together.

Hugh Jackman's time as Wolverine is streaming over on Disney+. Fans are hoping to see him reprise his role in upcoming Marvel movies, particularly the next two Avengers movies. If he does, smart money says he'll be looking jacked and having some wild cheat meals.

We’ve seen several movies over the years that show us a reimagining of a character or story we thought we knew, and A24's The Death of Robin Hood is set to hit the 2026 movie calendar to do just that with the titular outlaw. On the opposite end of the spectrum that gave us animated foxes and men in tights is Hugh Jackman’s brutal version of the legendary archer. What I'm especially excited about, though, are critics' comparisons to another Jackman movie.

The Death of Robin Hood violently shoots down the familiar image of a man who stole from the rich to give to the poor, instead painting the protagonist as a wounded man who’s now grappling with a life spent satisfying an insatiable bloodlust. It’s not unlike what we saw from Hugh Jackman in Logan, Brandon David Wilson of RogerEbert says in his review of The Death of Robin Hood, down to his being forced to care for a little girl. The critic rates it 3.5 out of 4 stars, writing:

Jim Vejvoda of IGN gives it a “Good” 7 out of 10 for an astonishing cast that includes Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe, gory kills and artsy drama from writer/director Michael Sarnoski. However, the “Logan of Robin Hood movies,” as the critic calls it, is more niche and less accessible than Sarnoski’s previous two projects — Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. Vejvoda writes:

Guy Lodge of Variety says The Death of Robin Hood is “exquisitely crafted and emotionally intelligent” but almost wears its dourness as a badge of honor. He continues:

Jacob Oller of AV Club gives it a C and says it’s more than Hugh Jackman’s wild facial hair that likens The Death of Robin Hood to Logan, as it follows in the trend of eating away at the fables that brought us to the characters in the first place, just like Jackman did with Wolverine in Logan. Oller says:

Kristy Puchko of Mashable also notes several similarities between The Death of Robin Hood and Logan, but says in the upcoming A24 movie, Hugh Jackman’s character has less rage and therefore less energy. The attempt to rewrite this centuries-old character is “bleak, brutal, and boring” with “truly repulsive onscreen violence.” Puchko says:

While the critics don’t all agree, the reviews of Death of Robin Hood seem to be mostly positive, as so far it’s earned a 73% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. It definitely sounds like an interesting story — if one we’ve seen Hugh Jackman portray before — but how good audiences are going to feel afterward remains to be seen.

Sydney Sweeney has already stepped into the wider Marvel orbit once with 2024’s punching-bag Madame Web, but a rumor suggests she may get another shot at a new superhero movie. And this time, if the chatter is even close to accurate, the fit could be much more interesting.

According to SuperHeroHype, industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently claimed Sweeney is being eyed for a role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. The outlet notes that Marvel has not confirmed the claim, and neither she nor the studio has publicly addressed it, so this should be treated as a rumor with a giant comic-book-sized grain of salt. Still, it follows earlier speculation that Marvel was interested in the in-demand actress for Emma Frost, which is where things get especially fun.

The Rumor Is Still Very Unconfirmed

The big thing here is that nothing is official. Marvel has not announced any actors for X-Men, and we do not even have a full cast of announced mutants for the reboot yet. The project is reportedly in development with Jake Schreier attached to direct, while Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are reportedly writing the screenplay. But Marvel is still keeping the mutant cards close to the vest.

That said, the timing makes sense. The MCU is inching closer to properly bringing the X-Men into the fold, and fan casting has been running wild for years. After the Fox-era mutants dominated the big screen for more than two decades and are rumored to be making a swan song in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel has a tricky job ahead: find actors who can make these characters feel familiar yet stand on their own.

Sweeney would certainly bring attention. She is one of the most talked-about actors of her generation, with Euphoria, The White Lotus, Anyone But You and a growing list of film projects behind her. She also knows what it feels like to be attached to a new Marvel movie, even if it's not in the official MCU, that becomes the internet’s punchline, given her role in Sony’s Madame Web.

Emma Frost Feels Like The Obvious Fit

If Marvel really is circling Sweeney, Emma Frost feels like the cleanest match. The character has all the ingredients that would play to her strengths: glamour, menace, intelligence, vulnerability and the ability to weaponize a room without raising her voice. Emma is not just “the pretty telepath in white.” She is a former villain, a teacher, a strategist and one of the most complicated figures in X-Men lore.

That kind of role would let Sweeney lean into the icy, polished exterior she can play so well, while also giving her room to show the bruises underneath. Her best performances often work because she can make a character seem both controlled and quietly unraveling. That is basically Emma Frost’s emotional operating system.

It's not like Emma would be making her big-screen debut. The character has already appeared twice in Fox's X-Men movies. She had a brief appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which, let's just say, is not exactly remembered as the franchise's finest hour. Then January Jones played a version of the character in X-Men: First Class. While I love that movie overall, Jones' Emma never quite clicked for me, making her one of the few weak spots in an otherwise terrific film. In other words, Emma Frost feels like a character that could absolutely benefit from another shot.

There are other possibilities, of course:

• Polaris — Magneto's daughter with magnetic powers who often brings a more emotionally complicated perspective to mutant politics.
• Dazzler — A pop star who converts sound into light and energy blasts, making her one of Marvel's strangest celebrity superheroes.
• Spiral — A six-armed sorceress and master strategist with deep ties to the X-Men's weirder cosmic stories.
• Sage — A mutant with computer-like mental abilities who serves as one of the X-Men's most underrated intelligence experts.
• Boom-Boom — A rebellious prankster who creates explosive energy spheres and brings a chaotic edge to any team.
• Stacy X — A former mutant entertainer whose pheromone-based powers make her one of the franchise's most unconventional characters.

Still, Emma is the one that feels like the cleanest fit without needing to reinvent the character.

This Could Be A Better Marvel Lane Than Madame Web

The funny thing is that the Anyone but You actress has technically already been in a Marvel-based movie, but Madame Web was not part of the MCU and did not give her much of a real superhero runway. That film became more famous for the memes than for launching its characters.

An MCU X-Men role would be a very different situation. The mutants are some of Marvel’s richest characters, and the reboot will almost certainly be treated as a major pillar of the franchise going forward. If The Housemaid star gets the right role, she would not just be joining another superhero movie. She could be stepping into a character with real staying power.

Again, this is all rumor for now. Marvel may go in a completely different direction, and Sydney Sweeney may never end up near the X-Mansion. But if the studio is actually looking at her for the mutant corner of the MCU, I get it.

The Fox-era X-Men are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, when it hits the 2026 movie calendar on December 18, 2026.

There are plenty of reasons why the X-Men movies of the 2000s remain beloved amongst superhero devotees, and something that audiences still talk about is the superb ensemble cast. Some fans may not be aware, though, that there was a bit of strife amid the making of the films, particularly with regard to the second installment. I’ve personally been aware of the drama that unfolded on set, but what I didn’t realize is that “trauma” played a role in at least some of the cast staying in touch over the years.

Someone who worked on the X2 set was Alan Cumming, who made his franchise debut as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler in Bryan Singer’s 2003 superhero sequel. Cumming’s performance has since been praised, and Singer’s movie received high praise and amassed some significant box office receipts. However, as Cumming alluded to via comments he shared with People, he and his co-stars remain linked by more than the success of that comic book flick:

Some have said that the notion of trauma bonding is quite real, but I’m still surprised Cumming would want to stay connected with his co-stars over what he previously described as a less-than-positive work experience. However, when I think about it, I guess it makes sense since his co-stars apparently weren’t what made the film shoot tough. With Cumming reprising his role alongside some of his co-stars in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, he spoke about his standing with them and whether they were on set together:

During the last decade or so, some X-Men cast members have opened up about what it was like working on some of those films, specifically the ones helmed by Singer. Many of those details seem to pertain to X2. For his part, Cumming claimed that Singer (who apparently banned comic books on the set of the OG film) would deride the cast on set, leading to issues with some of the other actors. Cumming specifically remembered Halle Berry having problems with Singer, and she eventually confronted the filmmaker as a result.

On top of all that, there came a point at which the actors apparently threatened to quit the movie if producer Tom DeSanto was barred from the set by Singer. DeSanto notably called for filming to be halted after Hugh Jackman sustained a stunt-related injury. So, needless to say, the X2 set was quite tumultuous based on the anecdotes shared by the cast.

The few details that the X-Men stars have shared about working on Joe and Anthony Russo’s Doomsday, though, suggest that the experience has been much better this time around. Cumming revealed he initially thought he was being pranked when Marvel Studios called, though he was happy to reprise Nightcrawler. The really “great” part for him was not having to be in the makeup chair as long to play the blue character. Cumming seemed to have a blast, even though he apparently injured co-star Pedro Pascal during a scene.

While the X-Men cast may hold onto that shared “trauma” years after making those early films, I’m hopeful that their experience on Marvel’s highly anticipated team-up flick will give them some better memories to bond over. On that note, check out Alan Cumming and his co-stars in Avengers: Doomsday, which opens in theaters on December 18 amid the 2026 movie schedule. Fans can also stream those classic X2 and other movies featuring the famous mutants using a Disney+ subscription.

It’s hard to think of another 2026 release that has sparked the gobsmackingly large number of fan theories and assumptions that the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday has. From its earliest days with Kang in the mix to the heavily revamped approach that brought the Russo brothers back into the fold, the MCU’s next mega-blockbuster will no doubt keep fans guessing until it’s officially out. Assuming Kevin Feige doesn’t spoil the whole shebang, that is.

Okay, so that’s just farcical, since Kevin Feige is generally Marvel’s biggest enforcer of keeping franchise secrets intact. But he’s not entirely immune to hyping up future projects, including what’ll likely be the biggest release of 2026. When the studio head honcho spoke with Fandango (as seen in this X clip), his own fandom crept through his comments while speaking to the X-Men’s official MCU introduction as a full group. As he put it:

The biggest takeaway from this comment is obviously the implication that Anthony and Joe Russo had the crew rebuild multiple sets (or parts of them) from Bryan Singer’s 2000 X-Men film, as a way of visually bridging the gap between Fox’s mutant saga and the MCU.To be fair, many fans probably already gathered that to be true just from the Professor X and Magneto Doomsday teaser, with interiors from his lavish mansion on display.

But what about other familiar locations? Feige implied Avengers: Doomsday will feature multiple scenes taking place within sets central to X-Men films even beyond that first entry. (Here’s hoping everyone just forgot The Last Stand existed during that part of the process.) I’m guessing we’ll see a similar take on Cerebro, and it would presumably make sense for the Russos to rebuild the Alkali Lake complex where the Weapons X experiments took place. (Assuming the impending X-Men standalone feature from Jake Schreier also shares some of those previously set up details.)

For a comparison, Feige referenced Deadpool and Wolverine finally putting Hugh Jackman in the yellow costume that fans clamored for years for, which Singer & Co. wanted to avoid entirely for being too cartoonish. As he put it:

For all the acclaim and fan-love aimed at Fox's X-Men movies, fans' biggest complaints often circled around the lack of comic-specific costumes in favor of all things black and leathery. He made the excellent note that the look of James Marsden's Cyclops is aligned with the source material, and it sounds like fans will finally get to see the mutant squad's traditional looks in live action for the first time. Even though I'm perfectly fine with adaptations taking artistic license with details like costuming, hairstyles and the like, I cannot WAIT to see how the X-Men look in Avengers: Doomsday and beyond.

Especially Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler and Jim Lee's Rogue costume. (Not that Rogue or actress Anna Paquin have been confirmed to appear in Doomsday, but I'm still hopeful.)

Despite being namechecked earlier, fans probably shouldn't expect to see Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday, but I'm as hopeful as anyone that Hugh Jackman is bringing his A-game once more as Wolverine, where his Aussie-Canadian accent can sit prettily alongside Channing Tatum's Alabama-Cajun accent as Gambit.

When it comes to upcoming Marvel movies on the way, the franchise’s impending future feels more blurry than ever. Of course, we know we have Avengers: Doomsday to look forward to this holiday season and Avengers: Secret Wars the year after that, but we have so many questions about what new blood will be part of the next phase of the MCU, including through the X-Men movie. But, I like one rumor going around.

We know that Thunderbolts* filmmaker Jake Schreier is behind the untitled X-Men reboot and recently he told us that he’s been discussing how to do “something that feels new” with the beloved comic book title. And, certainly casting the right talent who can bring new layers and audiences to characters we’ve seen before is one way you could do that. That’s why I’m so high on the new rumor going around that Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer is in the running for the role of Mystique.

The rumor comes from a scooper on X, who says the 27-year-old is “still being considered” for the reboot. If this casting tidbit comes true, Schafer would be following Rebecca Romijn from the original films and Jennifer Lawrence’s version from the prequels. The role would once again go to a blonde-haired beauty, but it feels like there’s to be more room with her to explore the inherent androgyny of the comic book character should the role be played by the transgender actor, model and activist.

I also think there’s a certain softness to Schafer that doesn’t quite feel like the other Mystique actors that could be interesting to see from the shapeshifter, too. Rather than being the enigmatic bombshell that the character is often portrayed as, I think she could offer a new shade to the character for a new generation.

Hunter Schafer has been constantly incredible on Euphoria as Rue since the HBO series premiered back in 2019, and yet, it feels like she hasn’t had a lot of chances to take up space in another high profile role aside from Euphoria since. She did have a small part in the YA action franchise Hunger Games: The Ballad Songbirds and Snakes, but it feels like she’s often fan casted more than she’s cast in the big roles we want to see her in. People were also hoping to see her in the Zelda movie along with Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland (per Reddit).

Hunter Schafer’s name isn’t the only name we’ve heard in association with the mysterious X-Men reboot, other names that have come up have been Marty Supreme’s Odessa A’zion for Rogue, The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Peter Claffey as Beast, Sadie Sink for Jean Grey and Sydney Sweeney for Emma Frost. I can’t wait for the day when Marvel Studios confirms the casting for this movie, because a new iteration of the mutants could really bring new excitement to the MCU.

Before share universes like the MCU (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription) there was Bryan Singer's 2000 X-Men movie. Bill Mechanic was the chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment at the time, and recently revealed some wild feedback about the movie he got from execs. And I can't stop laughing given what we know now about the genre.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order will recall that The X-Men movies came about before shared universes were commonplace, and they were a huge gamble. After all, the movies were expensive and had the herculean task of bringing the comics to life. In an interview with Business Insider, Mechanic revealed how folks from Fox originally responded to the project, offering:

Pardon me while I LOL. Because as we know, there have been a ton of Marvel movies in the decades since X-Men was released, including the 37 titles that have come out of the MCU (so far). So the answer is to that question about "why" is very clear: because audiences would eat it right up. The shared universe has given of signs of slowing down, with a number upcoming Marvel movies arriving this year including Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday.

In the end the X-Men franchise would keep going for nearly two decades, with the final chapter being Simon Kinberg's Dark Phoenix in 2019. Clearly the OG movie's haters were wrong, and they learned their lesson now that superhero projects are all over both TV and film.

For years fans lamented that the X-Men were noticeably missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but luckily that changed. While I was bummed when a report claimed Hugh Jackman's Wolverine wouldn't be included, we may have a logical reason why. Let's break it all down.

What we know about the X-Men movie is limited, but fans are hyped to finally see the group of heroes take center stage in the MCU. The movie will reportedly feature a younger group of mutants, which may be why Jackman is being left out. But a new report by scooper MTTSH claimed that a ton of movies surrounding mutants. The rumor reads:

If this ends up being legit, it would make me feel better about Wolverine seemingly not joining the X-Men movie. Because after Deadpool & Wolverine's record-breaking success in theaters, it seemed inevitable that Hugh Jackman would be back as Logan. But if there's going to be an entire saga about mutants, that would give the Greatest Showman actor the chance to reprise his signature role in other projects besides Schreier's developing blockbuster.

Jackman was the face of the X-Men movies, and proved he's still got it with Deadpool & Wolverine. Shawn Levy's movie allowed the 57-year-old actor to be a total badass as the clawed mutant, but also told a moving story about failure and grief. And while he might not fit in with a young group of new X-Men, I'm relieved that there are reportedly other opportunities for him to play that iconic role again.

Obviously, this is all just rumors at this point, so we'll have to wait for some official news from the studio. Either way, fans are hyped that the X-Men are finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mutants were noticeably absent throughout the first few phases, but Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox opened the door for them to join the fun. What is known, however, is that the forthcoming film will be helmed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. CinemaBlend was fortunate enough to speak with Schreier, who shared his feelings on tackling the film. His comments also speak to the challenges of revamping such a beloved property.

Professor X, Cyclops, Storm and co. are easily amongst some of the most famous characters not just in comics but in pop culture as a whole. So fans certainly have their share of expectations when it comes to the new X-Men team’s formal debut within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During my interview with Schreier, he acknowledged the deep “responsibility” that comes with tackling such a project. And the filmmaker provided an idea of how he and his collaborators are approaching the MCU flick:

There have indeed been plenty of X-Men movies, several of which have been acclaimed by both critics and fans. With that, there’s certainly some pressure when it comes to putting a brand-new spin on characters that have been around for over 50 years. Still, Schreier seems to have a lot of reverence for what’s come before, and it sounds like he and his team are also asking themselves the right questions while prepping their upcoming superhero movie:

Although precise details on the MCU’s X-Men movie are still scarce, I’m excited by the fact that Jake Schreier is aiming to deliver something fresh. It’s true that the Marvel’s mutants have an expansive tapestry of lore all their own, and it makes sense that Schreier would want to tap into material that’s yet to be highlighted on the big screen. I’m particularly confident in Schreier’s direction due to his work on the well-received Thunderbolts*, and he previously said that movie helped him overcome the “learning curve” of balancing action and character moments.

That last point will be incredibly important for fans to believe in the camaraderie and strife that unfolds amongst the various members of Charles Xavier's team. I’m looking forward to seeing what Jake Schreier, producer Kevin Feige and their colleagues do with the beloved mutants. Here’s hoping they succeed in crafting something that truly feels new.

There are a ton of upcoming Marvel movies in development, including Jake Schreier's X-Men film. And a new rumor about that film is that a major member of the team won't be included: Wolverine. Although I honestly get the logic.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have been not-so-patiently waiting for mutants to join the fun. Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox finally opened the door for this, but the studio hasn't rushed to get out a new X-Men movie. According to scooper MTTSH (via CBM), the Thunderbolts* director isn't going to include Wolverine in his developing blockbuster. I have to assume this is thanks to the legacy of Hugh Jackman as that character, a role that he's still playing to this day.

Finding another actor to replace Jackman as Wolverine seems like a herculean task, as he's become synonymous with Logan over the years. He returned to the role in Shawn Levy's Deadpool & Wolverine, which broke records at the box office. So it's probably a smart choice to keep the clawed mutant out of the developing X-Men movie, which also allows the Greatest Showman actor to play it sometime in the future.

Deadpool 3 joked that Hugh Jackman would be playing Wolverine until he's 90 years old, and while that's an exaggeration the sentiment isn't wrong. The threequel was a huge success, largely thanks to the 57 year-old actor returning to his signature character. Marvel likely wants to keep him around, but he wouldn't necessarily fit in with a younger group of mutants in the developing X-Men movie.

If another actor was cast as Wolverine they'd have some huge shoes to fill. So if this rumor about the X-Men movie leaving Logan out is true, it does make sense. Although there are some popular fan castings for the role, with some wanting Daniel Radcliffe to take up the claws. For his part, the Harry Potter alum doesn't seem interested.

The next Marvel movie hitting theaters is Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st as part of the 2026 movie release list. There are rumors Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey in that project, but we'll have to see if the beloved X-Men member actually appears.

In May 2016, just five months after first appearing as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise, Oscar Isaac made his superhero movie debut bringing X-Men: Apocalypse’s titular antagonist to life. While it was certainly a big deal at the time to star in one of the X-Men movies, the actor didn’t exactly have the most pleasant experience working on it. I really feel for Isaac after he talked about how “overheated” he got while playing Apocalypse.

Not only is Apocalypse one of the stranger-looking mutants in X-Men lore, he also wears a particularly elaborate costume. That combination did not work in Oscar Isaac’s favor when it came to both comfort and getting to bond with his X-Men: Apocalypse co-stars. As he explained while visiting Hot Ones:

First off, let me say how fitting it is that Oscar Isaac recalled being overheated as he’s eating increasingly intense hot wings. Second, I’m sure that must have been an isolating experience for him. The cooling tent was necessary for him to sit in, but the downside was that he couldn’t really interact with the other actors aside from when they performed scenes together. Just think about how much fun Isaac could have had with Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and the rest if he’d been cast in a different role!

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Oscar Isaac’s less-than-ideal time on X-Men: Apocalypse. In 2018, the actor described playing Apocalypse as “excruciating,” because he had no idea when he signed on for the movie that he would be “encased in glue and latex and in a 40-pound suit that I had to wear a cooling mechanism at all times.” Isaac was also not able to turn his head and sit in a “specially designed saddle” when not filming. Then in 2021, Cyclops actor Tye Sheridan said that he “felt so bad” for Isaac because he “just looked uncomfortable all the time.”

Fortunately for Oscar Isaac, he’s been able to leave his stamp on the superhero genre in two other, more comfortable ways by playing Moon Knight in the MCU and voicing Miguel O’Hara in the Spider-Verse movies. While it remains to be seen when we’ll see the former again, you can hear him reprising the latter when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse releases on June 18, 2027. In the much nearer future, see Isaac starring opposite Carey Mulligan in Beef Season 2, which Netflix subscription holders can stream starting on April 6.

There are various upcoming Marvel movies and upcoming Marvel TV shows to look forward to in 2026, although in the latter category, not all of them take place within the main MCU continuity. X-Men ’97 is one of those shows, as it instead continues to explore the universe that was originally introduced in X-Men: The Animated Series. I’m among the many who’s looking forward to the “very, very dark” X-Men ’97 Season 2 premiering on the 2026 TV schedule, but I also have to admit that the Disney+ show’s latest casting update is disappointing.

No, I’m not griping about an actor I don’t like being cast as one of the next season’s characters. This is about someone I was looking forward to hearing, but who evidently isn’t involved with the show at all. You may recall that in May 2025, former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo said he’d cast Neve Campbell as Polaris for Season 2. And yet, when The Movie Dweeb brought this up while speaking to her about Scream 7, which is now playing on the 2026 movies schedule, she said:

Ok, so assuming Neve Campbell isn’t lying about her involvement in X-Men ’97 at Marvel Studios’ behest, then what happened here? Beau DeMayo made it sound like Campbell had already recorded her dialogue as Polaris, Magneto’s daughter who’s also capable of manipulating magnetism. Did we misread his previous comments? Did the casting not actually go through? Is possible that Campbell’s recordings were actually shelved, and Polaris was recast following DeMayo’s exit?

Whatever the answers to these questions are, it’s a shame we won’t get to hear Neve Campbell voicing Polaris. After decades of being horror genre royalty from playing Sidney Prescott in all but one of the Scream movies, I was looking forward to her contributing to the superhero genre too. At the same time, I’ll keep an open mind for whomever will voice Polaris in X-Men ’97 Season 2, as they could still perform the role quite well.

At the end of X-Men ’97 Season 1, Cyclops and Jean Grey were flung 3960 A.D., where they met Mother Aksani (voiced by Gates McFadden). Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Xavier and Magneto were sent to Ancient Egypt in 3000 B.C., where they met a young En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse. Storm, Wolverine and Morph’s whereabouts remain unknown, while Jubilee, Sunspot, Forge and Bishop remain in the present day, though the latter two intend to travel through time to rescue the missing X-Men. Oh, and let’s not forget how it was seemingly hinted that ‘90s Apocalypse intends to resurrect Gambit as one of his Four Horsemen.

That’s a lot to follow up on in X-Men ’97 Season 2, along with all the plot threads that haven’t been revealed to the public. The new season is expected to premiere sometime this summer on Disney+. However things shake out with these new episodes, fans can take comfort knowing that X-Men ’97 Season 3 is also in the works.

Folks who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order are always looking to the future, and fans are especially interested to see who will play the X-Men in upcoming Marvel movies. Some people want to see Daniel Radcliffe play Wolverine, but he recently described taking on the mantle after Hugh Jackman as a "cursed chalice".

Radcliffe has been a popular online choice for Wolverine, and in an interview from ScreenRant's TikTok he addressed the ongoing chatter. In his words:

This isn't the first time Radcliffe has laughed off those rumors, and it sounds like he doesn't have much of an interest in actually playing Wolverine. But given his ongoing popularity from the Harry Potter movies, as well as his status as a short king, fans are likely going to keep the discourse going until another actor is officially named as the next Logan.

This chatter about him playing Wolverine has been going on for years now, especially once Radcliffe put on some muscle. But later in the same interview, he shared why he really isn't interested in taking on the role so famously played by Hugh Jackman. In the actor's words:

He's not wrong. Jackman has been playing the clawed mutant for decades, so whoever tried to take on the mantle will have some very big shoes to fill. That's seemingly a big reason why Daniel Radcliffe isn't entertaining the idea of playing Wolverine; it's too daunting of a task given how synonymous the Greatest Showman actor is with that role. So, while "cursed chalice" was an unexpected way to describe all this, it does make a lot of sense.

In the years that have passed since playing Harry Potter, Radcliffe has established himself as an accomplished and versatile star of movies, TV, and Broadway. It's been fascinating to see his choice of projects, even if some fans still want him to play Wolverine in the MCU.

The next Marvel movie hitting theaters is Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st as part of the 2026 movie release list. As for Radcliffe, he can be seen in the new NBC show The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.

Years before shared universes like the MCU and DCEU were launched, the X-Men movies were among the few film series helping to popularize the superhero film genre. Bryan Singer directed the first two installments, then later returned for Days of Future Past and Apocalypse. That means he’s worked with Halle Berry three times, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing with them. The Storm actress clashed with Singer on several occasions, and she most recently recalled confronting him during the filming of X2: X-Men United.

Halle Berry has making the press rounds with Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo to promote their new 2026 movie Crime 101, which is now playing in theaters. In their interview with EW, she was asked if she ever had a chance to stand up for herself in real life reminiscent of what her Crime 101 character does in a crucial scene (no spoilers here). Berry brought up when she told Bryan Singer “just where to go and how to get there” while working on the second X-Men movie, continuing:

Halle Berry didn’t provide any specific details about what happened during this confrontation, though it was clearly a fulfilling experience for her. However, back in 2020, it was reported that she and other actors on X2: X-Men United came to Singer and threatened to quit if producer Tom DeSanto, who called for production to be paused after Hugh Jackman was injured while performing a stunt, was removed from the set. Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming also recalled how Berry told Singer he could “kiss my Black ass” after he was angered over the cast members confronting him.

After Halle Berry recalled this moment during the Crime 101 interview, Mark Ruffalo said it was the “best story,” to which she said:

Halle Berry isn’t the only X-Men actor who’s had issues with Bryan Singer, even ignoring the multiple lawsuits claiming he sexually assaulted minors. Olivia Munn, who played Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, detailed her struggles with Singer stemming from his lengthy absence during the middle of filming. Sophie Turner, who played Jean Grey in the same movie, said her time working with the director was “unpleasant,” and Mystique actress Jennifer Lawrence mentioned him once while talking about the “emotional men” and “biggest hissy fits thrown on set” she’s seen working on movies.

Bryan Singer hasn’t directed a movie since 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody, although he was replaced late in the production by Dexter Fletcher due to repeated absences and conflicts with the cast and crew. As for Halle Berry, although she won’t reprise Storm in Avengers: Doomsday, she is set to team up with Djimon Hounsou in the thriller Red Card.

For what already feels like ages now, anticipation has been at Galactus-sized levels for the Phase-quaking sequel Avengers: Doomsday, and the upcoming Marvel movie still won’t be here until December as one of the late-stage 2026 release dates. Ahead of any full-length trailers, fans have had to subsist mostly on rumor-mill fodder (with some character-focused promos sprinkled in), and one of the latest unconfirmed reports suggests an intriguing reason behind the X-Men allegedly battling the Avengers in the film.

If this particular tidbit imparts the truth, all the fan-familiar mutants we will see in Doomsday will be geared up for fighting due to a misconception that thankfully doesn’t sound quite as frustrating as a sitcom-esque faux pas. Per insider MyTimeToShineHello on X, the X-Men have faced and survived through numerous incursions in their universe, and it doesn’t sound like they’ll be ready to lay down and play dead anytime soon.

In this rumored narrative, when the Avengers pop into the X-Men’s reality, assumedly with Fantastic Four members in the mix, their arrival is immediately assumed to be another potentially catastrophic threat that sparks a massive fight between both factions. I can only guess that the truth will come out before the battlefield is filled with a bunch of non-rescuable corpses, but it’d be a big swing to take out a major character during a completely avoidable brawl. Not that anyone but me is suggesting it would happen.

Why This Rumor Sounds Fairly Logical

As it goes with rumors about projects that have next to no information publicly confirmed, most feelings here are based on assumption pyramids that could easily implode if certain foundational details crumble. But if we're presuming Avengers: Doomsday will indeed pit the two heroic teams against each other, it makes the most sense for it to happen in a way that doesn't paint either side in a completely villainous light. Like, we don't need the MCU's X-Men coming from a world where the Nazis won WWII or whatever.

This explanation for things would line up well enough with previously rumored details about the X-Men’s version of Earth being one where humans and mutants lived in co-harmony, with the idea being that complicated things would have occurred in order to bring about such peace. And I’d say having the X-Men save the world from extinction multiple times over might do the trick.

Now, these alleged story points don’t seem to address the rumor that Doctor Doom brings the Fantastic Four and Avengers to the X-Men’s planet, although his presence would possibly be an additional factor causing the mutants to see the others as enemies. And it doesn’t necessarily factor Ian McKellen’s potentially big Magneto spoiler in, but that could just be explained as being part of whatever battle sequences.

As it goes, though, this "leaked info" might not turn out to be legit when the final film is released in theaters, so don't put too much faith into it just yet, and then you won't feel the need to go all Beast mode in that eventuality.

The comic book genre continues to be wildly popular, and the MCU has been releasing titles in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. For many fans the most exciting upcoming Marvel movie is Avengers: Doomsday, which looks like it's going to be a wild crossover event. A number of OG stars from the X-Men movies are returning to their roles, including James Marsden. And while he's careful not to reveal too much about Cyclops' role, his latest tease about the project is still thrilling.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is super limited, leading to a number of theories and rumors online. The Doomsday cast announcement confirmed that the X-Men are joining the fun, and fan are eager to see how they interact with other teams like the Avengers, New Avengers, and Fantastic Four. During a conversation with ET, Marsden teased what's coming in The Russo Brothers' blockbuster, offering:

Honestly, sign me up. While James Marsden didn't share any actual details about Avengers: Doomsday, he seems to think that fans are going to get everything they want. This is likely going to be music to the ears of folks who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order, and waiting for the X-Men to finally make their entrance. Although no I really need to see a full trailer.

The Notebook actor appeared briefly in Doomsday's X-Men teaser, with Scott Summers shown unleashing a massive optic blast at an unseen enemy. It was definitely epic to see Cyclops seemingly at his full power, and fans also think that they spotted Sentinels in the background.

Personally, I'm hoping Doomsday finally does right by Cyclops, who never really got his time to shine in the original X-Men trilogy. His role was mostly about his love triangle with Jean and Logan, and he wasn't portrayed as the tactical mastermind and badass that he is in comics and animated projects. Instead he was captured early in X-2, and was unceremoniously killed off in X-Men: The Last Stand without ever even suiting up.

When X-Men '97 premiered it showed Cyclops as the powerful mutant he truly is, and and want that type of energy brought to the character in the next Avengers movie. I'm hoping that's when James Marsden's cryptic comments are talking about; justice for Scott Summers!

While there’s still no clear timetable on when the X-Men will be rebooted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the mutant superheroes aren’t disappearing from the silver screen anytime soon. Various cast members from the original X-Men movies are reprising their roles on the 2026 release schedule for Avengers: Doomsday. However, these actors aren’t playing the exact same versions of the characters who we followed along with in the 2000s and 2010s, and a new rumor for the upcoming Marvel movie supposedly lays out the key difference between this new X-Men universe and the old one.

This started when Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus posted on X a panel from the Ultimatum comic book event of a tsunami hitting Manhattan in the original Ultimate universe. Magneto was responsible for this, so based off that alone, one could draw a line between that panel and Ian McKellen accidentally revealing that his version of Magneto destroys New Jersey in Avengers: Doomsday. Perez then shared a follow-up X post about how this panel was a tease to reflect the theme of “legacy” in Doomsday, saying:

Alex Perez added that this question will be posed not just to Magneto, but also to “Sam [Wilson], his Avengers, The Thunderbolts*, The Wakandans, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Steve Rogers, Thor, Loki, the TVA, the variants we see in this movie and most of all Doom.” These characters will have to grapple with how far they’ll go in order to save the people they love. What will they sacrifice? Morals? Powers? Belief? Their lives? As Perez laid out, it ties to what Magneto asks in the X-Men-focused Avengers: Doomsday teaser released last month: “The question isn’t, ‘Are you prepared to die?’ The question is, ‘Who will you be when you close your eyes?’”

This is some heavy material, but working off this alleged information, it sounds like in order for this alternate X-Men universe to become a utopia, a great sacrifice had to be made. Remembering the tsunami panel, it can be inferred this sacrifice involved many people being killed. But why? I doubt Ian McKellen’s Magneto was responsible given how chummy he is with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in the teaser. So then who did it? Was another mutant or perhaps a human? After all, we do see Sentinels wreaking havoc in the teaser as well.

Assuming everything Alex Perez shared is accurate, then I’m curious to see exactly what was the divergence point in this universe after the events of Days of Future Past compared to what we got in the movies. That’s amidst the many other questions bouncing around in my head. I should also note this X-Men universe, which could be the same one Monica Rambeau was transported to at the end of The Marvels, could find itself on the receiving end of sacrifice for the greater good.

A previous Avengers: Doomsday rumor claimed that Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four and the main Avengers will travel to this X-Men universe because they believe it’s the source of the next multiverse incursion. To stop it, perhaps the entire X-Men universe would need to be destroyed. I have no doubt this is all part of Doom’s scheme to manipulate the heroes, but nevertheless, would they be willing to take this course of action in order to save the other universes? Are we about to watch a bunch of X-Men characters die… again?!

We’ll find out for sure when Avengers: Doomsday is released on December 18. In addition to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, the movie will also be covered on the X-Men front by Rebeca Romijn as Mystique, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Channing Tatum as Gambit, whom we met in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Sure, the Avengers: Doomsday cast is already stacked with 26 Marvel heroes confirmed to be on the roster to duke it out against Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom. But, if we’ve learned anything from the MCU in the past two decades, it’s that the studio loves a surprise cameo. And after seeing an exchange between Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, I’m starting to think a Storm could be brewing come Doomsday.

Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry are currently promoting another movie on the 2026 movie schedule, Crime 101. Check out what happened when BBC radio host Nadia Jae asked the pair about Storm returning to the multiverse:

It’s the awkward silence and nervous giggles for me! I wish I had some sort of degree in studying body language, but honestly, even without one, that response is enough for me to believe they know something we don’t on the Storm front. All the loud silence in between felt like the bigger answer, but check out Berry’s comments on whether she’d like Storm to return:

Now, Halle Berry has actually remained rather vocal about her interest in returning to the character for a few years now. She previously said that when she ran into Blake Lively, the actress asked if she was interested in her husband’s movie Deadpool and Wolverine, to which she would have said yes if asked, but then she never got a call from the Deadpool actor. With the upcoming Avengers films, will it finally be Berry’s time?

Why I Think Storm Could Be In Avengers: Doomsday Or Secret Wars

As if that exchange wasn’t enough to convince us all, let’s talk through why her return actually makes a lot of sense. The biggest one is a lot of the original X-Men actors are already returning to the mix for Doomsday with Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme / Mystique) and James Marsden (Scott Summers / Cyclops) already in the cast. The characters even got their own Doomsday teaser, so you know they'll have a sizable storyline.

Plus, while Marvel announced a lot of cast members already, they are going to want to shock audiences a few times over, and bringing in Storm would be a really great moment. She may not have a name on a chair, but I do think if she doesn’t have a surprise moment, it’s possible Berry could show up in Avengers: Secret Wars rather than Doomsday.

Sure, I might be putting on my clown makeup come December 18, when Avengers: Doomsday becomes the latest of upcoming Marvel movies to hit theaters, but you can’t blame me after that video for getting some big hope for more of Halle Berry’s Storm.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe keep fans on their toes by consistently releasing new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Arguably the most anticipated upcoming Marvel movie is Avengers: Doomsday, which will feature a huge ensemble of characters. That includes a number of OG stars from the X-Men movies, including James Marsden, and I really need The Russo Brothers' blockbuster to finally do right by his Cyclops.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is limited, so fans are filling in the blanks with rumors and theories about what comes next. The Doomsday cast announcement confirmed that a number of beloved mutants are returning, and I'm crossing my fingers that Cyclops gets better treatment this time around.

Cyclops Didn't Get To Be Badass Enough In The Original X-Men Trilogy

The X-Men Doomsday teaser featured a big moment for Marsden, with Cyclops firing a massive optic beam at an unseen enemy while wearing a comic-accurate costume. This definitely made me hopeful, because I was never quite satisfied with how the character was handled throughout the original X-Men trilogy. Seriously, fans of the character missed out on seeing the fan favorite mutant adapted properly.

Despite how much of a badass Cyclops is in the comics, it felt like James Marsden never really got his moment in the first three movies. Instead, his role was largely about the love triangle between him, Jean, and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. For instance, Scott Summers was captured early on in the runtime of X2, and was unceremoniously killed off without ever even suiting up for action in The Last Stand. Add how little action he got in Bryan Singer's original movie, and it felt like we never really got to see the full power of the beloved team leader.

The discrepancy between Cyclops in live-action and the comics was made all the more obvious with the premiere of X-Men '97. The animated series opened with an epic battle against the Sentinels, and it gave probably the best portrayal of Scott's abilities we've ever seen. He uses his optic blasts to break his fall when flying through the air, and also uses them to push himself around the battlefield when rescuing Roberto da Costa. He's also shown as a great hand-to-hand combatant in a way that unfortunately James Marsden didn't get to show off much through his starring appearances in the X-Men movies.

To be clear, I don't blame Marsden for any of this. He's an excellent actor, and he can really pull of wearing Cyclops' visor. Instead I think it was the storytelling choices and visual effects limitations that resulted in him not getting a chance to show off the character's true badass nature. But the Doomsday teaser showed him unleashing an epic optic blast, and I hope that's an indiction that the character will finally get his day in the sun.

The superhero genre continues to be wildly popular, and is showing no signs of slowing. But before shared universes helped the genre become commonplace the X-Men movies brought mutants to life in live-action. Aside from the main installments, we also got two solo movies for Hugh Jackman's Logan, starting with X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). And actor Josh Holloway's story about losing the role of Gambit revealed how brutal the film industry can be.

While Channing Tatum played Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine (and will reprise his role as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast), the fan-favorite mutant got his live-action debut in the first Wolverine movie. Actor Taylor Kitsch played the Ragin' Cajun, but it turns out that role very nearly went to Holloway. The Lost star recently appeared at Fan Expo Portal, via Collider, and shared the wild story about being cast as Gambit, and then having the role taken away from him. In his words:

Ouch. While auditioning and not booking roles is hard enough, the idea of being congratulated for landing a major gig like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and then the studio changing their mind is on another level. Add in the fact that Holloway seemingly lost his chance at playing Gambit due to his age adds extra salt to the wound.

Gambit is a beloved member of the X-Men, so the hype was real around his first live-action adaptation in Origins: Wolverine. It no doubt would have been a big gig for Holloway, who was nearing the end of his tenure as Sawyer in Lost at the time. Alas, he got aged out... despite already getting a verbal job offer after his audition.

While Taylor Kitsch admitted he hadn't seen Channing Tatum's version of Gambit in Deadpool 3, I have to wonder if Josh Holloway ended up ever watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I wouldn't blame him if he avoided it after landing the role and having it taken away. And I can only imagine how cool he would have looked suited up in the hero's costume from the blockbuster spinoff.

As previously mentioned, Tatum got to debut as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, and will already have the chance to reprise his role in Avengers: Doomsday. The character also recently appeared in animation during X-Men '97, and in video games via the online title Marvel Rivals.

Josh Holloway continues to work consistently, including a hilarious cameo in The Paper. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is streaming on Disney+, while Tatum's take on Gambit will return to theaters when Avengers: Doomsday is released December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list.

I know this might not make much sense, but after seeing the X-Men in the recent trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, I’m actually less excited for the movie now.

And, like, huh? When people first saw that Chris Evans was returning as Captain America, I heard grumbling online that this just showed that the MCU was “desperate.” But, I didn’t see it that way. In fact, I thought it was actually nice to see characters like Cap and Thor returning, as I missed them. Their absence as a team has actually kind of been the reason why I’ve been off the Marvel hype train for a while.

However, while I’ve heard people say that NOW they’re excited after seeing the X-Men in this recent trailer, it's actually had the opposite effect on me. Here’s why.

After Getting A Brand New Fantastic Four Team, I Kind Of Wish We Got New X-Men Actors, Too

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I’ve liked every Fantastic Four movie. And yes, that includes the old Chris Evans one, as well as the one with Michael B. Jordan.

That said, I’m glad that we got a new team when Marvel's “First Family” came to the MCU. While it was cool to see so many Fox Marvel characters in Deadpool & Wolverine, that was mainly because they were being cheeky about it, and also because it felt like closure to the Fox Marvel films.

However, when I saw Professor Xavier, Magneto and Cyclops in the recent Avengers: Doomsday trailer, it just made me feel… well, tired, if I'm being completely honest. It made me feel old. While I loved James Marsden as Cyclops in the old movies (even though he went out kind of dirty in X-Men: The Last Stand.… which is a movie I genuinely enjoy), I would rather see a new Cyclops, just like we got a new Mister Fantastic.

But that’s not the only reason why my enthusiasm for this new movie has kind of flagged…

This New Trailer Kind Of Feels Disconnected From The Other Three

Another thing that makes me less interested after seeing the X-Men in this recent trailer is that it feels so disconnected from the other three trailers, which featured Avengers (such as the most recent one with Black Panther characters).

Deadpool was a Fox Marvel character before Disney acquired the company. So even though he's now in the MCU, he doesn’t really feel like an MCU character. In that way, it's going to feel weird for me if he appears alongside Star-Lord or Captain Marvel.

And this is something I never even thought about prior to seeing the X-Men in this recent trailer. I’ve now watched all four trailers in a row, and the X-Men one just felt tonally different, which makes sense. The Fox Marvel films don’t feel like the MCU ones, and vice-versa.

But I don’t know if I like that now that I've seen the juxtaposition. I'll wait and see, of course, but this trailer somewhat deflates my enthusiasm. That said, there’s just one final reason why this X-Men trailer kills it for me.

If You Want To Get Me Excited, Show Me Doctor Doom!

I know the powers that be are saving their biggest trump card for later - that being Doctor Doom - but if they honestly want to get me excited for this movie, they need to show me the ruler of Latveria!

Because I’ve seen Steve Rogers already. I’ve seen Thor. I’ve seen the Fox X-Men. But do you know who I haven’t seen yet? Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom! This goes back to what I said about the previous versions that we’ve already gotten of the Fantastic Four, where we also saw different versions of Doom, but we've never seen him played by Robert Downey Jr.

I’ve actually heard some wild rumors about Doctor Doom in this new film, and THAT’S what I wanted to see in this trailer, not just the X-Men. But what do you think? Are you excited now that you’ve seen the X-Men? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been ramping up to the introduction of the X-Men for years now. It began in 2022 when Kamala Khan was revealed to be a mutant in the Ms. Marvel finale; continued with the appearances of Professor X and Beast in Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness and The Marvels; advanced with the parallel universe story that is Deadpool & Wolverine, and most recently, we got a look at a few beloved characters in a teaser for Avengers: Doomsday. At this point, fans are very much salivating to learn where it is all going – and that includes not just the people watching the films, but also those who are making them.

Nia DaCosta, who is best known to MCU fans for directing 2023's The Marvels, has spent recent weeks on the press tour for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (which is presently battling with Avatar: Fire And Ash for the number one spot at the box office), and she was asked about her relationship with Marvel Studios during an interview with Inverse. Although her contribution to the franchise has a bit of a sour legacy thanks to its underwhelming performance in theaters, she is still very much on good terms with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and she even got to pepper the executive/filmmaker with questions about the future of mutants in the canon during a visit to the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Said DaCosta,

As alluded to above, the filmmaker personally got the chance to tell stories with mutant characters in the MCU in The Marvels, but what the future has in store for the core X-Men team in the franchise has been a question looming ever since Disney and Fox completed their merger in 2019. From what we can tell, the question will at least be directly addressed if not answered in Avengers: Doomsday, which is confirmed to feature a number of mutant characters in the cast, including Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy / Beast, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

Will those versions of the characters become established as the core X-Men characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Or are there plans ahead within the plotting of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars that will see the canon totally change? It doesn't sound like Nia DaCosta got the answers she was craving during her one-on-one time with Kevin Feige, and we don't expect them to be public any time particularly soon.

New teasers for Avengers: Doomsday keep rolling out – including the most recent, which features heroes from Wakanda meeting the Fantastic Four – and they are helping satiate our hunger for now, as we still have exactly 11 months to wait before the MCU blockbuster arrives in theaters on December 18.

Avengers: Doomsday may be bringing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together for the first time since 2019, but they’re not the only superhero team appearing in the upcoming Marvel movie. The MCU’s Fantastic Four will be back in action on the 2026 movies schedule following their introduction last summer, and we’ll also reunite with many characters from the old X-Men franchise. These heroes and many more will band together against the multiversal threat that is Doctor Doom, but now there’s a wild Doomsday rumor claiming that Robert Downey Jr.’s new MCU character has something strange planned for the Fantastic Four and X-Men.

We briefly met Downey’s Doom in The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ mid-credits scene when he was shown kneeling in front of Franklin Richards, with his mask in hand, four years after the main events of the movie. Victor von Doom is best known as the Fantastic Four’s arch-nemesis, but if scooper @MyTimeToShineHello is to be believed, he’ll actually seek out the team in Doomsday to help stop the incursions affecting the multiverse. From there, they head over to the main MCU reality to warn its heroes, which lines up with the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene.

Now, we know Doctor Doom is not to be trusted, so obviously something sketchy is going on with him allegedly forming these alliances. However, it gets even weirder, as this rumor then claims that Doom, the Fantastic Four and Avengers head over to the X-Men universe. It’s apparently the source of the next incursion, so they have to stop it before it destroys their universes. This is presumably the same X-Men universe when Monica Rambeau ended up at the end of The Marvels, where she met Beast and an alternate version of her mother who became Binary.

From the way this is worded, it sounds like Doom is pitting the Fantastic Four and the Avengers against the X-Men, undoubtedly as part of his plan to conquer the multiverse. But what happens from there in Avengers: Doomsday? Do these teams get wise to his deception and join forces before too much damage is done? Is Doom looking for something specific in the X-Men universe, or does he need help taking control of it? If he succeeds, then does he immediately turn on the Avengers and Fantastic Four, or does he keep stringing them along?

This rumor poses a lot of questions, and hopefully the first full-length Avengers: Doomsday trailer will help clear up if any of this information is legitimate or not. That said, considering what we see in the X-Men-focused Doomsday teaser, I think it’s probably safe to say that there’s a lot of tragedy in store for the mutant protagonists. The lineup of familiar talent from the Fox X-Men days includes Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum will also reprise Gambit following his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine, albeit with him not going as hard on the Cajun accent this time.

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, so make sure you’re caught up on the MCU happenings with your Disney+ subscription before that happens. And let’s not forget, whatever awaits the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men at the end of the year, they’ll continue to clash with Doctor Doom in Avengers: Secret Wars, which follows on December 17, 2027.

Following the teasers with Captain America and Thor, we got a new one featuring the stars of the X-Men movies, but I'm worried about how the villainous Sentinels will look.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday has been limited, but that's changing thanks to the marketing campaign finally kicking off. The Doomsday cast announcement confirmed the X-Men would appear, and in the above clip we got our first glimpse of Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto, and James Marsden's Cyclops. The latter seems to have some Sentinels moving around behind him, but will they have a comic-accurate design?

The trailer ends on Cyclops taking off his visor, and letting out his optic blast at full power towards and unseen enemy. Sentinels can seemingly be seen in the background of that final shot, and I'm hoping that we finally get a satisfying design for the giant robots. After all, they've had a storied history throughout the X-Men franchise.

While Sentinels have a long history in the comics and animated projects, they've been somewhat difficult to adapt into live-action. X-Men: The Last Stand briefly featured them in a Danger Room training session, but they didn't get their time in the sun until Days of Future Past. And while the futuristic version of the robots were terrifying, not everyone loved the version of them that appeared in the 1970's story. So Doomsday has the potential to finally bring a satisfying version of the villains to moviegoers who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order.

Sentinels aside, there are a ton of questions about exactly how the mutants will fit into the narrative of Doomsday. Some assume that the universe they occupy will be the one briefly seen in The Marvels' credits scene, where Monica Rambeau met Kelsey Grammer's Beast. But since Teyonah Parris wasn't confirmed to appear in the next Avengers movie, maybe it'll be another universe altogether. Seriously, my head is spinning.

Since the MCU's inception, fans have been hoping to see the X-Men included in the shared universe. Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox finally opened the door for this to happen, and a few projects have peppered in mutants such as Doctor Strange 2 and The Marvels. But Doomsday marks the fist time that the team of heroes will finally be assembled, and fans are curious about exactly how that'll work.

Freddy Krueger, Edward Scissorhands, Wolverine. Three characters with blades for hands, and three characters so wholly associated with their live-action actors that it’s nearly impossible for another performer to step into the roles. Hugh Jackman attempted to bid farewell to the X-Men franchise and his mutant hero years ago, but has yet to actually shed his adamantium skeleton for good, and fans expect to see him in more upcoming Marvel movies like the Russo brothers’ Doom-ified sequel Avengers: Doomsday.

Well-known as being one of the nicest gents in Hollywood and beyond, Jackman appeared on the podcast Sibling Revelry to talk to its two genial hosts, Oliver and Kate Hudson, about his belief that being a bit of an impatient dick during his first X-Men audition helped spark enough interest that the casting directors brought him back. In a clip shared on Instagram, Jackman explained that the Marvel movie came about as he was striking out to get his career going outside of Australia. Speaking to his local caché at the time, he said:

To leave one job to try out for another one would seemingly just be asking for trouble, especially when there's a time element involved. But Jackman was confident enough that he could try out for the role and still make it back without disrupting any evening performances. And when it looked like that might not actually happen due to all the other actors auditioning, the Logan star said he flipped a passive-aggressive switch:

It sounds like thsoe who were present during that initial audition process liked the energy they saw coming off of a heated Hugh Jackman. Enough so that chose not to turn him away, and still let him say his piece. And thank goodness, because Jackman said that seemed to be what held their interest, even if he completely lost that vibe the the time he'd returned for the first callback. As he put it:

Not that putting on brusque airs automatically put him above all the other actors circling the Wolverine role at the time. He's stated in the past that the aforementioned audition was around 20 seconds long, and that he returned for upwards of seven total auditions before he was officially cast as the brooding badass. He also said Kevin Feige, who had yet to become the head of Marvel Studios, threw him an olive branch that also helped keep him in the loop long enough to land the part. Fast-forward 26 years, and now we're wondering if he'll be back for the first official MCU X-Men project.

Before any further Wolverine news gets confirmed or debunked, fans can see Hugh Jackman in musical co-lead form alongside Kate Hudson in the Neil Diamond tribute band biopic Song Sung Blue, which has been winning critics over ahead of its December 25 release in theaters.

Fans are wondering how these crossovers will go down, and it sounds like even Grammer himself might not actually know. Because in addition to actors he actually filmed with, Beast will seemingly be interacting with others that weren't on set at the same time. Sounds like The Russo Brothers have another massive puzzle coming with the next two Avengers movies.

The Frasier star returned to the role of Beast in The Marvels' credits scene, where Monica Rambeau wakes up seemingly in another dimension... one where the X-Men exist. It was a shock, and beyond that cameo Grammer is expected to have a meaty role in Doomsday. Later in the same interview he described the MCU as:

Fans are curious to see how the X-Men factor into the story, especially since we're seeing so many familiar faces reprising their roles. In addition to Grammer, we'll also see the return of Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto, James Marsden's Cyclops, Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, and Channing Tatum's Gambit. While the latter only just debuted in Deadpool & Wolverine, he'll finally get to become a full member of the team. But how many of these characters survive their encounter with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom remains to be seen.

There have been some peaks and valleys in the MCU in recent years, so the pressure is on for The Russo Brothers to deliver and help breathe new life into the shared universe. The cast is a huge boon, especially with mutants involved.

Remember when we thought the last time we’d ever see Hugh Jackman play Wolverine in 2017’s Logan? That was true for half a decade, and then he changed his mind and decided to play a variant of the adamantium-clawed mutant in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. As it turns out, watching one of Eddie Murphy’s best movies played into Jackman deciding that it was worth returning to what arguably remains his most well-known role.

Jackman revealed this while he was speaking with Wicked: For Good’s Cynthia Erivo, a fellow musical theatre powerhouse, in the latest episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors series. When the actress asked him if we’ll see him play Wolverine again in any upcoming Marvel movies, he responded:

Released in 1982, 48 Hrs. was Eddie Murphy’s film debut after making a name for himself in standup comedy and as a Saturday Night Live cast member. Murphy played Reggie Hammond, the convict who’s forced to team up with Nick Nolte’s Jack Cates, a San Francisco Police Inspector, to apprehend two hardened criminals. 48 Hrs. still ranks as one of the best buddy cop movies, and Murphy continues to think highly of it, though it just barely missed out on making the Mount Rushmore of his filmography.

So upon seeing the first Deadpool movie, Hugh Jackman was immediately thinking about delivering a 48 Hrs.-like dynamic with his Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. However, Jackman didn’t initially act on this and stuck with Logan being his final outing. Considering how things turned out with Deadpool & Wolverine, he’s no longer willing to make such bold proclamations about his future as Wolverine, explaining:

Logan still functions exceptionally as the closing chapter of the Wolverine he’d been playing since 2000’s X-Men, but the Wolverine he’s playing now has a new lease on life after saving Earth-10005 with Deadpool and moving to this universe. That’s not to say that we’ll definitely see him reprising Logan in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but at least he’s open to doing so rather than outright ruling it out. Besides, he doesn’t play to play Wolverine again to work with Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, as the trio are reuniting for a non-Marvel movie.

If the rumors are true, though, Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars and “more projects” if/when the day comes that the X-Men movies are rebooted for the MCU. For now, you can see his latest movie, Song Sung Blue, in theaters starting December 25, and 48 Hrs. can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for constantly expanding, thanks to new projects arriving in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. There are a ton of rumors about upcoming Marvel movies, including the developing X-Men flick. Specifically there's chatter about Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown playing a member of the titular team, but there's one mutant in particular I'd like to see her as.

What we know about the MCU's X-Men movie is super limited, but it's expected to star a new cast rather than the stars of the original X-Men films. A recent report by CBM claims Brown is rumored to play a role in the forthcoming project, possibly Rogue, Jean Grey, or Shadowcat. Personally I'm hoping she ends up playing the latter.

Those with a Netflix subscription have spent years watching MBB play a telekinetic and telepath as Eleven/Jane in Stranger Things. And as such, I don't want her to have similar powers if she actually joins the next X-Men flick. Instead, I'd rather see her have Kitty Pryde's phasing abilities, and flex a different type of action muscle.

Funny enough, fans have thought that Millie Bobby Brown would be a great Kitty Pryde/ Shadowcat for a while now. She's got plenty of genre experience, with projects like the Godzilla franchise, The Electric State, and Enola Holmes in addition to her acclaimed tenure as Eleven. And with Stranger Things Season 5 set to be the final installment, her schedule must be freed up to take on another long-standing role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kitty Pryde is a fan favorite character from X-Men, and has appeared in the comics, animated shows, and even live-action. Elliot Page famously played the hero in two of the latter projects, but the character hasn't really gotten to take center stage on the big screen since X-Men: The Last Stand. But we'll just have to wait and see if Millie Bobby Brown is actually cast, and what the lineup of the team will be like in Jake Schreier's developing movie.

Rogue was another rumored character for Brown, and it would be fun to see her flying and using super strength to dispatch enemies (in addition to the character's ability to drain life and powers with skin-to-skin touch). But if she's going to have those other powers, Rogue might need to have a crossover with Captain Marvel.

Of course, this is all just rumors and speculation at this point. Almost nothing is know about the developing X-Men movie, and Millie Bobby Brown doesn't have have any deal with Marvel just yet. But fans are hoping for news about the future of the mutants ASAP.

The X-Men movie is currently expected to arrive in theaters on May 5th 2028. In the meantime, the net MCU movie that will be released is Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31st as part of the 2026 movie release list. For now, fans can watch Millie Bobby Brown in Stranger Things over on Netflix.

Hugh Jackman is a mainstay when it comes to superhero movies, having played Logan/Wolverine in a total of 10 films to date. The latest flick to feature Jackman’s adamantium-clawed mutant is Deadpool & Wolverine and, since then, fans have been wondering about the character’s future. Considering OG X-Men are returning for Avengers: Doomsday and mutants are going to factor into future MCU films in a big way, it’s natural to ponder what might happen. Now, Jackman is sharing comments about another reprisal.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson gets meta by opining that Logan (but more specifically, Jackman) will remain in this role until he’s 90. That, of course, surely won’t happen but, at the very least, the notion of Jackman playing the character again at some point isn’t far-fetched. While on The Graham Norton Show, the Australian actor was asked about the prospect of playing the famous X-Man again. Jackman doesn’t seem opposed to jumping back in the Marvel sandbox, but he also made a funny point (via Digital Spy):

The Greatest Showman star is definitely correct in saying that, at this point, Disney, Marvel and 20th Century Studios have plenty of footage of him as Logan. The House of Mouse actually did use AI and file footage to help craft a version of a character in a film, though. I’m talking about young Indiana Jones in The Dial of Destiny. However, like myself, I’d like to think that should Wolvie return, fans would like to see Jackman actually playing him in real time.

All that tech talk aside, though, it sounds as though Hugh Jackman isn’t opposed to playing Wolverine again, though I’d imagine there would just have to be a compelling story on that front. With the Deadpool threequel, Ryan Reynolds was able to lure his pal out of his self imposed X-Men movie retirement with the film’s depiction of an emotionally broken Logan who aligns himself with Wade Wilson to protect the multiverse. If any upcoming superhero movie could top that narrative it would probably be Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.

Not much is known about Doomsday, though the official synopsis confirms that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will team up with others, including the X-Men, to take on Doctor Doom. With that, OG mutant actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and James Marsden are reprising their roles. So it would make sense to have Jackman’s Wolverine join them for what could become their finest (and maybe even final) hour.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been teasing that the X-Men will join the MCU proper and be portrayed by a brand new ensemble of actors. Also, if a recent rumor is to be believed, Cyclops and Jean Grey’s family will be the focus of the rebooted franchise as opposed to Wolverine. Still, it’s also rumored that Hugh Jackman’s Logan will stick around for a while. It’d be great to see the actor play the role once more ahead of Jake Schreier’s reboot but, if that happens, I hope it’s worthwhile for Jackman.

There is no shortage of iconic Scarlet Witch moments, both from the comic books and across every major appearance she’s made in the Marvel movies. However, if you ask Elizabeth Olsen, the woman who's played Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, there’s one line in particular she’s been chasing for years. And, frankly, she’s right. If she were ever given the chance to say it, it would be seismic.

During a recent appearance on InStyle’s YouTube series, “Let’s Unpack That,” Olsen walked through a loose time capsule of her career, pulling mementos from a carry-on bag she says she’s used since 2012. Amid the items was a Funko Pop of Wanda herself. This one came with a speech bubble that read “No More Mutants”—the phrase that launched one of Marvel Comics’ most consequential storylines. And, according to Olsen, that line is still at the top of her MCU wish list. As she put it:

For longtime Marvel fans, hearing Olsen say those words would be almost equivalent to Captain America finally shouting, “Avengers Assemble.” It’s not just a memorable line, but is "the" line. In the 2005 House of M storyline, Wanda reaches her breaking point and rewrites reality with those three words, wiping out most of mutantkind and sending shockwaves through Marvel's Multiverse.

Olsen wanting to deliver that moment is especially interesting given what happens to Wanda at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Her fate is technically unresolved, but no one truly believes Marvel buried its most powerful sorceress under a pile of CGI rubble. If anything, the controversial Multiverse Saga era has only made Wanda more valuable, narratively and thematically.

Also, with Marvel Studios slowly (very slowly) rolling mutants into the MCU through projects like Ms. Marvel, The Marvels, the X-Men ’97 tie-ins, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, and the already-confirmed returning Fox-era characters in Avengers: Doomsday, the timing has never been better to bring Wanda’s comic-book legacy to the forefront.

Picture Olsen returning in a future film or an upcoming Disney+ project, unraveling emotionally as reality bends around her, and finally delivering those three words. It would be an instant all-timer—one of the franchise’s defining scenes. But, realistically, it wouldn’t track for Wanda to immediately wipe out mutants just as the MCU is finally introducing them. So, if Marvel ever plans to pull that trigger, it may be a few years (and a few major X-Men rollouts) down the line.

Whether Marvel Studios would actually pull the trigger on House of M—or some reimagined version of it—is another question entirely. Still, the Wind River veteran putting that energy out into the world? Marvel has a track record of listening when its stars speak up. So here’s hoping this is one of those times. Because “No more mutants” in the MCU would be a moment fans would talk about for years to come.

Next year is set to be a huge one for upcoming Marvel movies with the release of both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon. The latter is packed with so many MCU stars that the studio did a five-hour livestream just to announce the cast. Now, Kelsey Grammer (a.k.a. Beast) is the latest actor to be asked about the super secret project, and he actually gave us something.

Kelsey Grammer is set to reprise his X-Men role alongside Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden in Doomsday, and we can’t wait. Here’s what went down when Entertainment Tonight asked him about the movie:

• Kelsey Grammer: "To come back as Beast -- I don't know how much I'm allowed to talk about -- but it was fun to interact with people I hadn't acted with before."
• Interviewer: "Who were you most geeked out to interact with?"
• Kelsey Grammer: "You know, Thor. I'm a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. I love him."
• Interviewer: "You get to share a scene?"
• Kelsey Grammer: "It's sort of sharing a scene. I can't, I don't wanna go too far. And I really had a great time with the new guy from Fantastic Four."
• Interviewer: "Pedro Pascal?"
• Kelsey Grammer: "Pedro, yeah, yeah...wonderful guy. I really, really enjoyed hanging out with him. And we worked together...some."
• Interviewer: "You shared a scene in some capacity?"
• Kelsey Grammer: "Yes."

From the sounds of it, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast is going to be right there with the main heroes of the Avengers! The actor was cautious in the interview, but seemed to indicate he got to work directly with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom and Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic. It’s great to hear the X-Men actor is intermingling with the other corners of the MCU as opposed to just sticking with the mutants.

As a fan, I can particularly see Beast and Mr. Fantastic sharing a scene together because they are both brilliant scientists. I wonder if they’ll have to put their heads together to figure out a way to defeat Downey’s Doctor Doom?

Kelsey Grammer first joined the MCU officially during the end credits scene of The Marvels, where Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau meets Beast in an alternate universe to hers, seemingly confirming that the X-Men movies are canon, just in a parallel universe. We also know that the Fantastic Four live in a parallel universe to the main MCU universe, which should also be different from the one the OG X-Men live in.

The current Marvel saga we’re in is called The Multiverse Saga, so I imagine the characters from various universes will all need to work together to defeat Doctor Doom. During Fantastic Four: The First Steps’ Doomsday tease at the end of the movie, it was suggested that Doctor Doom is specifically after Reed Richards and Sue Storm's son, Franklin Richards, who is revealed to be packing some serious power even as an infant.

The Fantastic Four will likely be very involved in getting Franklin back, of course, but we’re so curious how all these Avengers will link up across the multiverse. The Avengers: Doomsday release is just 13 months away, considering it's coming out on December 18, 2026 – we’ll be theorizing a lot until then.

As thrilled as I am to see Avengers: Doomsday come out and learn if the X-Men will make their big debut, a new rumor has potentially given me a bitter pill to swallow. Actor Patrick Stewart is among the many returning actors appearing in the blockbuster event, but it seems as though this performance may be his last.

As a Star Trek fan who loved Stewart both in The Next Generation, Picard, and the various movies, I can't express enough what his performances mean to me as a fan. I'm holding onto that feeling more than ever on the heels of this latest report, which suggests there will be no future adventures with him as Jean-Luc Picard.

Patrick Stewart Reportedly Retired From Acting On The Set Of Avengers: Doomsday

YouTuber and alleged Marvel insider Kristian Harloff recently spoke with John Rocha in a video and brought up some details about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. In the midst of talking about a leaked trailer and the possible existence of multiple trailers for the upcoming Marvel movie, he dropped a rumor that it will be Patrick Stewart's final acting performance:

It should be noted that this is a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed about it from Patrick Stewart's camp or Marvel. Could the 85-year-old actor, who has been busy in Hollywood ever since he first rose to prominence, finally be stepping away from the spotlight? It certainly feels like a possibility.

Patrick Stewart's Retirement Would Bum Me Out As A Star Trek Fan, But Is He Really Leaving Acting?

It sounds selfish to say, but I really hoped that Patrick Stewart had more appearances planned for Star Trek after Picard ended. Granted, I knew the series happening was a blessing on its own, but the talk of him getting a script about a new adventure had me fooled into thinking that it truly wasn't the end for him as one of the best Trek characters of all time.

One thing I will say is that Patrick Stewart has made claims in the past that he was done with something, only to return to it later. Specifically, he said he was done with Professor X after Logan. Flash-forward to 2025, and he's already returned as the character and will be in Avengers: Doomsday.

To put it another way, while the rumor is circulating, and it may be true, Stewart could always change his mind. Of course, I certainly wouldn't fault him if he didn't, as he's given the world decades of work to enjoy and should be allowed to sit back and enjoy the life he's built for himself. Still, I do wish that if he had to say goodbye to acting, it could've been with a Trek project.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 16th, 2026, and we'll presumably learn then or before if Patrick Stewart is done with acting or not. I remain excited for the movie in the meantime, and hope that Star Trek can find its way back to theaters before too long as well.

But, while fans might expect Wolverine to slash his way front and center like he has in nearly every major adaptation before, a new rumor suggests Marvel Studios may be changing things up. If true, it would mark a major shift in how the team is introduced to a whole new generation of moviegoers.

On a recent episode of The Kristian Harloff Show on YouTube, the eponymous industry insider discussed what he’s been hearing about Marvel’s plans for the upcoming X-Men reboot. According to his sources, the spotlight this time around won’t be on Logan, but rather on someone else entirely. Harloff claims:

If accurate, this rumor points to Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, taking center stage in the MCU’s mutant-centric reboot, along with a deeper exploration of the Summers family, presumably including his brother, Havok, and possibly Cable. That would be a big shift from the Fox-era X-Men films, in which Cyclops often played second fiddle to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

To be clear, nothing is confirmed, and Marvel is keeping its plans for Charles Xavier's mutants tightly under wraps,. Still, this rumor is already generating buzz—especially among longtime fans who’ve felt Cyclops never got the respect he deserves on screen. As one of the original team members introduced back in 1963, he’s at the heart of countless classic arcs that are more than worthy of big-screen treatment.

There Are Iconic Cyclops Stories Marvel Should Adapt

If Marvel Studios is really planning to center the X-Men reboot around Scott Summers, it’s not just a bold move, but long overdue. Cyclops is more than just the guy with the visor. He’s a founding member and one of the most emotionally complex characters in the mutant roster. While movies have often sidelined him, the comics tell a different story.

Across six decades of X-Men history, Cyclops has anchored some of the most important and compelling arcs in Marvel Comics. From origin stories to cosmic family drama, here are some essential Scott-centered stories that deserve a proper cinematic treatment:

• X-Men Origins: Cyclops (2010): A modern retelling of Scott’s early life—from orphaned childhood to Xavier’s first recruit. A perfect foundation for any reboot.
• X-Men: Season One (2012): A fresh, accessible intro to the original team’s first year. This could serve as a cleaner MCU entry point, with a tight narrative structure.
• Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975): The relaunch that changed everything. Cyclops becomes the link between the original team and the new recruits. Essential for any reboot blueprint.

In 2014, the X-Men film series delivered a crossover of sorts with X-Men: Days of Future Past, which combined the casts of the then-current “First Class” movies and the mutant franchise’s original trilogy. As a result, young Professor X actor James McAvoy got to spend time with Patrick Stewart, who reprised the older Charles Xavier, and Ian McKellen, who reprised the older Magneto. During the sixth main X-Men movie’s production, there was a specific moment away from the cameras when McAvoy saw firsthand what made Stewart and McKellen “a different kind of actor” in his eyes.

James McAvoy appeared alongside fellow X-Men: Days of Future Past alum Elliot Page to speak with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz a New York Comic Con. The discussion included Page’s work on The Odyssey and McAvoy sharing how the X-Men movies beat the MCU to the punch in a big way, but the latter also recalled the time when he got to spend “a whole afternoon” with Stewart and McKellen. McAvoy came into one of the trailers to see the former cooking and the latter “sitting with his feet up in the recliner,” which led to the following:

I don’t think anyone remotely familiar with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen should be surprised they were able to spout off Macbeth lines off the cuff. These two were both members of the Royal Shakespeare Company and performing in productions penned by The Bard long before they brought Professor X and Magneto to life on the big screen. James McAvoy is certainly no stranger to Shakespeare either, but those Macbeth lines had already exited his mind a few weeks after he played the title role.

Maybe McAvoy will get to a point when he can recall lines from Shakespeare plays with the same ease as Stewart and McKellen do, but regardless, he was impressed seeing them do it. Aside from Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, McAvoy’s Charles Xavier was the only other “First Class” actor in X-Men: Days of Future Past to share screen time with someone from the original X-Men cast. The older and younger Xavier came “face to face” by using Wolverine’s mind as a connection between the past and present, and Stewart’s version convinced McAvoy’s to “hope again.”

Jennifer Lawrence has been in a slew of movies and franchises that have captivated fans. She’s part of the Hunger Games cast. She famously donned the blue Mystique makeup for X-Men. She recently bared all for the R-rated romp No Hard Feelings. She' even landed Oscar nominations and critical acclaim for Winter’s Bone, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy. You know who is not impressed about any of this? Her nephew.

Lawrence recounted the hilarious story during a stint on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon when Bear was only 4-years-old. It's all love for her adorable nephew Bear, but she said that when she would tell him as a young Tyke she played Mystique, his response was less-than-optimal.

I've always found Jennifer Lawrence to be a very funny actress, and this story highlights how she can craft a narrative that's part adorable and part bringing out her most eye-roll-inducing self. It does seem as if there were some lingering hurt feelings due to Bear's nonchalance, and during the episode of The Tonight Show we got to see this became a regular occurrence in the relationship between the actress and her nephew.

Poor thing, Lawrence literally had to pee in a funnel to make that character happen, and she got no respect for it from her nephew whatsoever. Tough.

Honestly, Bear was a frequent topic of conversation when Jennifer Lawrence was also shooting the Hunger Games. He's actually in the infamous ending scene in Mockingjay -Part 2 in which Peeta and Katniss get a "happy" ending (of sorts). Bear apparently bonded with Josh Hutcherson while filming and the shoot went pretty well.

Yet, Lawrence admitted her nephew hit a wall afterward when he found out he was visiting Aunt, and was concerned she was going to put him to work again.

Mockingjay-Part 2 came out a whopping 10 years ago -- I know, even Hutcherson could hardly believe it -- so I assume Bear is no longer going on about disbelieving his Aunt threw on some blue paint for a series of extremely popular Marvel movies. Still, this story stands the test of time, and I bet comes up at the family holiday dinner table from time to time. Poor kid.

The upcoming MCU movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is every Marvel fan’s dream. The cast of the old and the new Marvel flicks will come together to take down Dr. Doom. But with plenty of OG X-Men actors returning for the 2026 movie release, Famke Janssen (who played Jean Grey in the original X-Men films) was asked if she got a call to return for Doomsday, and she responded in three words.

You’ll be happy to know that the cast of Avengers: Doomsday is filled with plenty of OG X-Men actors to give you a feel-good dose of nostalgia. Thanks to Days of Future Past rebooting the timeline and bringing back mutants who died, these returning actors include Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Kelsey Grammer, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming. But with Jean Grey’s Famke Janssen not on this list, she got real with EW if she got the call to ask to return, and here was her three-word response:

I’m truly curious why Famke Janssen wasn’t asked to return. After the X-Men timeline got rebooted at the end of Days of Future Past, we see that Jean Grey is alive and well. I’d be curious to see how her version would fit into the MCU and her interactions with other superheroes, like Doctor Strange or The Scarlet Witch. But personally, I could do without the Cyclops/Jean/Logan love triangle if Hugh Jackman does end up appearing in Doomsday, like fans think.

After her run on X-Men, Famke Janssen has filled her resume with other well-known projects, like the Taken series, Hemlock Grove, How to Get Away with Murder, and more. However, the Dutch actress continued to tell EW that reporters still ask her questions about her time playing the telepathic X-Men mutant:

I understand what she’s talking about. You would think that reporters would focus on questions about recent projects she’s had under her belt. But like Janssen said, it should be a sincere compliment that she’s still recognized for the badass superhero role she played once upon a time.

And like the former model previously said, the X-Men movies helped “set the tone” for the MCU movies that would come later, in seeing everyday people who happened to have superpowers. We’ve got to give Janssen credit for being part of the team that helped jumpstart everything for the superhero genre.

In 2023, Famke Janssen seemed unsure if she’d be up for reprising Jean Grey if given the chance. But when asked earlier this month, however, the Netherlands native said “that whole comic book world” isn’t her world and never was. Maybe she just saw it as a cool project to take on. But at the same time, she’s looking forward to the Phase Six MCU flick.

I see where the talented actress is coming from in that going back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would mean taking part in plenty of sequels and spin-offs that would tie up your career for years. Actors like Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson have appeared in the most MCU movies for about a decade of their careers. So it’s understandable if Janssen wants to explore other projects and let a new generation of actors carry the torch.

Famke Janssen may have “never, never, ever” gotten a call to join Avengers: Doomsday. However, the anticipated Marvel movie is still sure to give fans a nostalgic X-Men reunion with its many OG actors returning, even if Janssen isn’t one of them. I’m sure she’ll give the new movie its full support when it plays in theaters on December 18, 2026. There are two things called The Void to keep track of in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first is the dark alter-ego of Lewis Pullman’s Bob, a.k.a. Sentry, and the second is the location at the end of the time where remnants of alternate universes the Time Variance Authority has pruned languish. The latter Void is particularly notable for its many Marvel Easter eggs, but Loki writer Michael Waldron shared one wild X-Men location he couldn’t include there. Frankly, this just makes me hopeful that the upcoming X-Men reboot can make good use of this place.

Waldron, who also wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday, discussed his time on Loki in a Reddit AMA while promoting his Hulu subscription-exclusive series Chad Powers, which premiered on the 2025 TV schedule last month. When asked how he stays creative when writing within the “boundaries” of an existing universe like the MCU, he responded:

The Mojoverse is an alternate dimension populated by beings without skeletons, and is named after longtime X-Men baddie Mojo, who was introduced in 1985’s Longshot #3. As one of the Spineless ones, i.e. the aliens in this dimension who refused to use exoskeletons, Mojo conquered this realm and naming it and its sole planet after himself. The denizens of Mojoworld were bombarded by radio and television signals from Earth and developed an intense passion for television entertainment, leaving it up to Mojo to keep them entertained by making film and TV productions.

Mojo and the Mojoverse have previously been seen on X-Men: The Animated Series and the X-Men ’97 revival. By the time Loki Season 1 came out, it’d been a few years since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, so Marvel Studios was free to use X-Men material in the MCU. Michael Waldron didn’t explain Marvel Studios’ reasoning for keeping a pruned Mojoverse out of The Void, but it would have been great to see Loki’s reaction to its bizarre features.

But hey, the Mojoverse would be perfect to use in the X-Men reboot being helmed by Thunderbolts*’s Jake Schreier. The MCU will finally usher in a new era for these mutant superheroes and villains once Avengers: Secret Wars wraps up The Multiverse Saga. Marvel Studios will need to find ways to have this new X-Men adaptation stand out from the 20th Century Fox film series, and transporting the likes of Cyclops, Jean Grey and more to the Mojoverse to clash with Mojo would be one of the ways to accomplish that. Just imagine that monstrosity of a villain being depicted in a live-action setting.

The X-Men reboot is being written by The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ Michael Lesslie, but it doesn’t have a release date yet. Loki concluded its Disney+ run in 2023, but Tom Hiddleston will reprise the title character when Avengers: Doomsday is released on December 18, 2026.

Laurence Fishburne made waves when he expressed his interest in playing Professor X. He explained that he’s aware that the MCU’s first X-Men movie is in the works, and posed the question “What do you think about Laurence Fishburne as Professor X?” Well, I’m certainly interested in that idea, so when I interviewed the actor, I asked him why he’d like to play the iconic Marvel hero.

When Laurence Fishburne explained that he’d love to play Professor X at New York Comic Con, his comment went viral, and people started to wonder what it’d be like to see him in the iconic role. It’s pretty easy for me to picture him as the leader of the X-Men, and honestly, I’d love to see his take on the character. So, when I interviewed him for CinemaBlend about his latest project, The Witcher Season 4, I also brought up this viral statement he made. I asked why he loved the character so much, and in response, he told me during:

You hear that, Marvel? I think that’s some solid reasoning, and I think we should make it happen somehow. As he said, he’s the right age for the role, he’s got the passion and the look, and from my point of view, he has the perfect energy and gravitas to play Charles Xavier.

Now, I realize Laurence Fishburne has already appeared in the MCU (he played Goliath in Ant-Man and the Wasp, which you can stream with a Disney+ subscription). I also realize that Patrick Stewart is part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, and we’ll get to see him as Charles Xavier when that upcoming Marvel project premieres next year. So, on the surface, this dream of Fishburne’s seems like it could be far-fetched.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I mean, Chris Evans played Johnny Storm in 2005's Fantastic Four before he was Captain America, and then he reprised his role as the Human Torch in Deadpool and Wolverine, which is part of the MCU. Michelle Yeoh had roles as different characters in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, too, and the list does not end there. So, the idea of Fishburne playing another MCU character after he played a role in Ant-Man’s story isn’t out of the question.

On top of that, it’s unclear who will be cast in Jake Schreier’s X-Men movie. While many original X-Men actors are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s perfectly possible that a new ensemble of actors will be cast to play the heroes in a standalone film. What can I say? When you’re working with the multiverse, anything is possible.

I guess all there is to do now is hope that something comes from this manifestation Laurence Fishburne seems to be doing. He clearly has the passion for Marvel and this legendary role, and it feels like he’d be the perfect person to take over the mantle of Professor X. However, only time will tell, and while we wait to see if this dream becomes a reality, you can watch him in his newest project, The Witcher Season 4, with a Netflix subscription starting October 30.
