The Scrubs reboot had a successful launch on the 2026 TV schedule. It became an instant hit on ABC when it premiered earlier this year, and it's since been renewed for a second season. A handful of franchise OGs appeared in the first season, with the reboot cast led by the returning Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, and more OGs are expected to return. Now, production has officially begun on Season 2, and Braff celebrated with some truly lovely posts.

It felt like it took forever for the Scrubs reboot to get off the ground, with discussions apparently going back and forth for a while. So the notion of the actors returning to the Sacred Heart set to film a second season of this revival is very satisfying for this fan. With the cast back on set, Braff celebrated by sharing a photo of himself, Chalke and Faison on Instagram, and I’m loving the caption added to the post:

As a fan, I can honestly say it's so great to see the three of them back on set! We had to wait six years to see JD, Elliot, and Turk together again and, now, we only have to wait a matter of months for new episodes. With filming having started, I would hope that more BTS content will be shared in the months to come. In the meantime, though, Braff's other photo, which shows Faison with Penny the dog, is just warming my heart:

As of now, it’s unknown when Scrubs Season 2 will premiere, but the presence of BTS material makes the prospect of its return feel all the more real. Even though Braff's photos are making me excited for the second season, I’m also nervous about what could be coming. Of course, this is a fun show, but it can also be heartbreaking. After all, the writers managed to throw in that twist involving John C. McGinley’s Dr. Cox, which was devastating.

Before all that, though, it was hard to predict just how it would predict how the medical show would fare. Reboots and revivals are all the rage in Hollywood right now, and they can be hit or miss. Ultimately, reviews for Scrubs were mostly positive, though, and the reboot’s premiere brought in big ratings. With the return of numerous OGs and the introduction of a new crop of young doctors, the franchise seems to have found a solid balance between the old and the new.

I'm hopeful that additional details on Season 2 of Scrubs will be revealed in the coming weeks. Networks are beginning to finalize their fall schedules, so it may not be long before ABC releases premiere dates. At the very least, fans can feel relief knowing that filming has started, and here's hoping the cast and crew have a great shoot. Scrubs made a triumphant return on the 2026 TV schedule. After years of discussions, fans finally returned to Sacred Heart Hospital earlier this year with the new reboot, starring Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke. The series also brought back other original cast members in either recurring or guest starring roles, and Braff is teasing even more returns for the second season. But there is one that I really need to see.

What Zach Braff Had To Say

The first season of the Scrubs reboot saw a handful of Sacred Heart favorites coming back to the hospital. Aside from the three leads, John C. McGinley, Robert Maschio, Christa Miller, Neil Flynn, and Phill Lewis appeared, as well as Judy Reyes, who was pulling double duty between Scrubs and High Potential. Fans also got to see a new group of doctors under J.D.’s watchful eye, and there is going to be much more to come.

Braff told People what to expect in the second season, and I’m excited to see how they make the show even better:

There’s a reason that Scrubs was able to go for nine seasons during its original run, and why the reboot is doing so well. It’s partly because of the incredible cast and the fun storylines that easily transition into pretty heavy topics. The first season of the reboot had a great mix of old and new, and it was so great seeing fan-favorites coming back. So I’m happy to know that that will continue for the upcoming second season.

Who I’m Hoping To See

As previously mentioned, Season 1 of the Scrubs reboot brought back several original stars, and that pattern will continue for Season 2. It sounds like there will be some characters coming back that did not return for the first season. While there have been a lot of characters to come and go through the doors of Sacred Heart Hospital, I am hoping that Ken Jenkins, who starred as Dr. Bob Kelso for most of Scrubs’ run, pops by to pass judgment on the new-ish staff, even if it’s a brief appearance.

The actor is currently 85 and retired, so it might take a bit more convincing and legwork, but you never know. His last on-screen role was back in 2019, so he seems to be done with acting . However, creator Bill Lawrence has previously expressed interest on X about having Jenkins on the reboot, so it’s always possible. Dr. Kelso was definitely an entertaining character, even if he was cold and heartless. He did show a softer side at times, and now that J.D. is the hospital’s chief, it would be fun to see how he reacts to that change. If all we get is a voicemail, even that would be welcomed.

It’s unknown just who will be appearing in the second season of Scrubs, whom fans have not seen in a while, but more information will likely be announced in the coming months. Season 2 is confirmed to premiere this fall on ABC, but for now, all seasons of Scrubs are available to stream with a Hulu subscription.

It’s a good day to party like it’s 2002 because Scrubs Season 2 is happening! See, that’s funny because Scrubs already had a second season back during its original run. There were certainly some complaints about the return of Scrubs, such as there only being nine episodes in the first season. However, the reboot's success proves that the TV show is still so much fun all this time later, and we can’t wait to see what else happens at Sacred Heart Hospital in Season 2.

While it was great to see the main cast from the original back together, the Scrubs revival also did a solid job of introducing new interns we got invested in. Plus, Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer has a great recurring character as HR and wellness manager Sibby Wilson, and I love the hilarious nurses Frances and Pippa. Jacob Dudman, who plays the British intern Dr. Asher Green, reacted like this:

No word yet on when exactly Scrubs will be returning, but I have to guess it will either be on ABC's fall schedule or it will premiere at the top of 2027. Last summer, there years after Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence talked about his plan to revive the series, ABC officially ordered the revival to series. Right out the gate, Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke were announced to be respectively reprising J.D., Turk and Elliot for this midseason offering on the 2026 TV schedule. CinemaBlend also recently learned that one of the Scrubs revival’s new actors was with Braff when it was announced that one of the best sitcoms of all time was returning.

David Gridley stars in the Scrubs revival’s first season (Season 10 overall) as Blake Lewis, one of the medical interns that J.D. is teaching in his new position as Sacred Heart’s Chief of Medicine. But before Gridley was cast in Scrubs, he was working with Braff on a different Bill Lawrence-created show by the name of Rooster, which also premiered a few weeks ago and can be streamed with an HBO Max subscription. Gridley recalled the following when I asked him, as well as his co-star Amanda Morrow, about what it was like working with the Scrubs OGs at the beginning:

David Gridely appeared in Rooster’s first episode, but that was directed by Jonathan Krisel. And then while Zach Braff directed Rooster’s third episode, which premiered this past Sunday, Gridley didn’t appear in it. So we’ll have to wait and see which Rooster episode they collaborated on, but I like that Gridley and Braff knew each other before Scrubs came the former’s way. It makes me wonder if Braff immediately recognized him when the Scrubs revival began production, if not had a hand in getting Gridley cast.

Clearly David Gridley has a lot of respect for Zach Braff, which is in sharp contrast with how he’s not as enamored with J.D. as Asher and Tosh, the other primary medical interns, are. Blake is very much the loner of the core group of younger characters and hesitant to open up, and he initially ignored J.D.’s suggestion not to close himself off from his coworkers in the premiere episode. Fortunately Blake has slowly been coming around on that front, but Gridley clarified during the interview that while his character respects Braff’s in terms of “excellence in work,” he doesn’t find him particularly inspirational.

With just three episodes left to go on this season of Scrubs, here’s hoping Blake warms up to J.D. a little more in these next few weeks. It’d be even better ABC orders another season so the character can be fleshed out even more. Don’t forget that both the original and revived Scrubs can be streamed with a Hulu subscription.

Scrubs Season 7’s second episode, Zach Braff’s J.D. and Elizabeth Banks’ Kim welcomed the birth of their son, Sam. Viewers got to see the infant a handful of times that season and in Season 8, but it was also mentioned in the latest episode of the Scrubs revival to air on the 2026 TV schedule that he and Sarah Chalke’s Elliot had a son together. While that by itself isn’t a surprise, it does create a continuity issue with Season 9, and now showrunner Aseem Batra has clarfified what’s going on with J.D. and Elliot’s son, Ollie.

In “My Poker Face,” which can be streamed now with a Hulu subscription, J.D. mentions to Elliot, now he ex-wife, how he recently built a bunk bed for Ollie ahead of getting him the next weekend. However, Elliot was pregnant in Scrubs Season 9’s first episode, which aired towards the end of 2009. So why would J.D. be building a bunk bed for a child who’s now roughly 16 at this point? Well, Batra told TVLine that the revival is disegading that moment from Season 9, meaning that Ollie was born many years after J.D. left Sacred Heart in the Season 8 finale.

Although Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence will never badmouth Season 9, the fact is this is just the latest example of that particular season being sweeped aside Scrubs revival. Originally Season 9 was intended to be a separate spinoff show, but ABC decided to keep it branded as the main series instead. That 13-episode season was met with mixed reviews and led to the original Scrubs ending for good.

So the revival has been acting as though Scrubs truly ended with 2008’s “My Finale” and ignored both when Sacred Heart was a medical school and, as Aseem Batra has now shared, Elliot’s earlier pregnancy. Additonally, she revealed that we won’t see either Ollie or Sam in this nine-episode season, although though there were originall plans to include them. As Batra explained:

Aseem Batra also mentioned that if/when Sam is ever featured on the revival, she’d love to bring back both Kim and Scott Foley’s Sean, who used to go out with Elliot and was revealed to be in a relationship with Kim in Season 8, thus making him Sam’s stepdad. So that provides extra incentive for ABC to renew Scrubs, which ideally stands a good chance of happening given how well the first three episodes performed. Bill Lawrence has also said that if the revival is renewed, we’ll reunite with Ken Jenkins’ Bob Kelso.

New episodes of Scrubs air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. I was already keeping my fingers crossed that the show will return in the 2026-2027 TV season, but now they’ll be even more tightly intertwined if that means we’ll also see how a now-college-aged Sam is doing and what J.D. and Elliot are like co-parenting their much-youger son.

When I heard that a new season of Scrubs was coming to the 2026 TV schedule, it felt like exactly the kind of thing I’ve been missing from my weekly TV viewing. These days it feels like there are just not enough good half-hour comedies for me to latch onto, and I already have a long history with the show from its original run. But, I gotta tell ya, now that I’ve seen the first few episodes, I’ve really surprised myself over one thing I’m already invested in: the interns.

I Already Love The Interns? Yeah… I'm As Surprised As You Are

Y’all, I’m genuinely amazed by this, because when I first read about the Scrubs revival I had absolutely zero interest in the next generation of characters – especially because it’s become such a trope when it comes to Hollywood reviving movies and TV shows that can get so tiring to watch. Yet, here I am just a few episodes in starting to really latch on to each of these new characters little by little.

Now, in the first episode I really wasn’t into them at all, but I noticed that I'm starting to get more invested in the new characters with each new episode. My favorite of the bunch has to be the adorable British one, Asher, who is hilariously squeamish. Then, there’s the sweet relationship between Dashana and Amara that took place during the plotline with Turk's surgery robot. But, I knew I was really done for when the show also started getting me interested in the social media influencer character of Sam and the stoic frat boy-type character of Blake.

But, hey, we’re also talking about a show produced by Bill Lawrence, who got me to care about football/soccer while watching Ted Lasso, so should I really be shocked? Realizing I could buy into the interns… and get my favorite Scrubs characters back only makes the revival better, especially considering I walked into it with low expectations for this aspect of the show.

The Scrubs Revival's Attention To Everything Makes It Better All Around

It’s kind of the whole package of new additions, too. I also love the pair of gossipy nurses, Vanessa Bayer’s “feelings police” character of Sibby Wilson is pretty funny, and I’m totally into the rivalry that’s already been formed between J.D. and Joel Kim Booster’s Dr. Kevin Park.

That’s not to say that all the stuff with the original characters isn’t also working on me. J.D. and Turk's bromance is as fun to watch as ever. I even like that J.D. and Elliot twist regarding the pair having gone through a divorce that led Lawrence to respond to a disgruntled fan. I think it creates an interesting tension, and helps with grounding the show in a way where it doesn’t feel like the characters were frozen in time between Scrubs’s polarizing Season 9 (which wrapped up in 2010) and this revival, all these years later. It also makes me want to see them get back together slowly throughout this run.

Overall, I’m really impressed with the quality of the show so far. It feels like a natural return to the series rather than a careless rehash, and that makes me really excited for the rest of the season.

One of the most anticipated entries on the 2026 TV schedule, Scrubs’ revival has been something fans have wanted for years now, but anyone hoping to see marital bliss from Zach Braff’s J.D. and Sarah Chalke’s Elliott were in for a surprise. The season premiere revealed they’d split up at some point after having a daughter together, which creator Bill Lawrence told us was quite the heavy decision to make. Perhaps unsurprisingly, some fans were not pleased about this particular update.

Though many elements that originally made Scrubs great are intact, from the offbeat and sometimes surreal tone to J.D. and Turk’s eternal friendship, it’s hard to downplay the disappointment of learning that one of the show’s two core romantic relationships is currently kaput. (I’m very appreciative they’re not harshly bitter with each other, though…at least not yet.) Longtime fan and author J.A. Bryden seemed especially disgruntled by where things stand now, and took to X to share his dismay, saying:

While I don't feel nearly as strongly about J.D. and Elliott's split, since it just gives the creative team ways to bring them back together, I do think that the Season 10 premiere was lacking in some ways due to their bond not being core to the comedy. Still, it's not an issue that could keep me from watching the rest of the revival season. Only the abysmal Season 9 had that power.

Bill Lawrence's Response

As noted in the post, Bill Lawrence rarely misses, and he's been on a hot streak in recent years thanks to Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Bad Monkey. But obviously not everyone is going to be 100% pleased with any show's revival, since change and evolution is necessary. To that end, Lawrence shared a response to J.A. Bryden's complaint that briefly justified the decision, while also understanding that it's not everyone's ideal scenario. As he put it:

That's one of the baffling things about potential romances in TV sitcoms. The "Will they?/Won't they?" element becomes so pronounced and heightened that it can make viewers misremember how long the couples were actually together in an official capacity. It may seem like Ross and Rachel were together forever on Friends, but that wasn't the case at all. Similarly, it's easy to remember the moments when J.D. and Elliott's shared spark was brightest, but harder to remember just how limited those moments were across all those seasons.

When I think of the couples I was friendly with when Scrubs was first airing, I can only come up with a small handful who are actually still togethe. So this turn of events seems pretty natural to me.

Bill Lawrence's response also had a positive, soothing effect, as the fan relented in the face of a creator's explanations. As he put it:

Thankfully, the second episode was a more jaunty and silly affair, even though it did dig into the divide between J.D. and Elliott now that he's in charge as Chief of Medicine in the wake of Dr. Cox's surprising exit.

In the Scrubs Season 8 finale, which is generally considered to be the show’s true series finale given how polarizing Season 9 was (it was actually meant to be a separate spinoff), Zach Braff’s J.D. envisioned what his future might look like in the form of a film. That included him and Sarah Chalke’s Elliot getting married, having a child together and living happily ever after together. Well, sadly, that’s not how things shook out in real life.

The premiere of Scrubs Season 1 (the tenth season overall) on the 2026 TV schedule revealed that J.D. and Elliot are divorced and not on great terms with each other. What specifically led to their marriage collapsing remains a mystery, but needless to say this was one of the biggest twists to come out of Scrubs’ positively-received return to TV. Show creator Bill Lawrence also acknowledged to CinemaBlend it was a “big decision” he and showrunner Aseem Batra reached given how it would impact that vision JD saw at the end of Season 8.

What Bill Lawrence Said About The Twist

During my interview with Lawrence and Batra, I asked the former about the thought process that went into separating J.D. and Elliot for the Scrubs revival. Specifically, I was wondering if he felt like doing so would undercut what was shown in the Season 8 finale. Lawrence answered by detailing how just because we saw a future for J.D. back then didn’t mean it was going to be the future:

J.D. and Elliot’s romantic journey on the original Scrubs was indeed tumultuous, though it seemed like they’d finally gotten their act together in Season 8 and were truly ready to commit to each other. Alas, it didn’t work out, though this was a logical creative move in Bill Lawrence’s mind. He also used Aseem Batra as an example of how a dynamic between ex-partners can evolve once the marriage is over:

What makes J.D. and Elliot’s post-marriage lives even more complicated now is the other big twist the Scrubs premiere dropped. After working as a concierge doctor for many years, not only is J.D. back at Sacred Heart, he’s succeeded John C. McGinley’s Perry Cox as the hospital’s chief of medicine. So J.D. now being Elliot’s boss is surely going to cause more friction, but this status quo shift will also have ramifications to some people close to them.

What Judy Reyes Said About The Twist

In a separate interview, I asked Judy Reyes, who’s reprising Carla Espinosa on a recurring basis, how J.D. and Elliot separating would affect Carla’s friendship with Elliot. After all, those two are best friends, but J.D. also means a lot to Carla given how he and her husband, Donald Faison’s Turk, are, to borrow from Jay and Silent Bob, practically heterosexual lifemates. Reyes told me the following:

A new era has begun at Sacred Heart, and while Judy Reyes said that J.D. becoming Chief of Medicine is “kind of an eye roll” for Carla, evidently there’s cause to be concern about how the divorce could impact what Turk and Carla have with J.D. and Elliot. One of the most popular hospital-set comedies of all time, Scrubs is the creation of TV mega-producer Bill Lawrence, and initially debuted on NBC back in October 2001. The series became quite popular early on thanks to its mix of extremely silly situations and genuinely emotional character arcs, all while turning star Zach Braff into a household name alongside his many A+ co-stars such as Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Sarah Chalke.

After seven seasons, NBC pulled the plug on Scrubs, only for ABC to step in to resuscitate it for two more seasons. Unfortunately, the quality took a dip, and ahead of the final season's location change, many of the lead actors stepped down as series regulars, appearing only in a handful of episodes. ABC canceled the comedy in May 2010, without renewing it for a tenth season.

As with many '90s and '00s comedies, Scrubs continued garnering popularity over the years through both TV syndication and streaming. Braff and Faison embraced the ongoing love by producing the COVID-era podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald. (It will return from its defunct status to cover the revival's episodes.) Thanks in part to the pedcast rejuvenating calls for Scrubs to return to the small screen, Bill Lawrence voiced plans to try and spin a new era of Scrubs.

It wasn't until December 2024 that ABC officially announced a Scrubs revival was in development, and another seven months went by before the network put in the official series order for nine new episodes. At the time, executive producers Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra were announced as showrunners, with Hobert bowing out over alleged creative differences in October 2025.

The majority of the core cast is back, though sadly stars Ken Jenkins and Sam Lloyd both passed away in the interim years. (Hopefully we'll see a tribute or two.) Guest stars include Rachel Bilson, Andy Ridings and Lisa Gilroy.

The wait is almost over for the returns of Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke to the small screen for more Scrubs in the 2026 TV schedule, but the upcoming ABC sitcom isn't just going to be picking up where the original left off back in 2010 when it comes to the tone. After confirming that fans will be tuning in for a revival with a Season 1 rather than a Season 10 of the original, Braff spoke with CinemaBlend about how the comedy will contrast with a truly wild episode from back in the day.

The Scrubs series regulars got candid at SCAD TVfest this year about reprising their beloved roles nearly two decades after the original finale, with Braff clarifying that the revival is "picking up story-wise where [Seasons] 1 through 8 ended." He went on to cite an episode that fans may remember from the original run, and not just because Arrested Development's Jason Bateman was a guest star. Braff told me:

Be prepared, Scrubs fans – J.D. and Turk are probably not going to be menaced by an ostrich when they return to TV. Zach Braff was referring to Episode 8 of Season 5, called "Big Bird" and airing back in early 2006 with Jason Bateman, who played a patient of J.D.'s who also happened to have a pet ostrich with a taste for Turk's hat. So, while the show is seemingly holding on to some of the whimsy from the original Scrubs run, the revival is going to be more grounded than... well, any kinds of shenanigans involving hat-stealing birds and Jason Bateman. If anything, it sounds like fans may want to use the remaining days until the premiere on February 25 to revisit the pilot from back in 2001.

Many familiar faces from that pilot will be back, with Zach Braff as J.D., Donald Faison as Turk, and Sarah Chalke as Elliot as series regulars. Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley will also reprise their roles as Carla and Dr. Cox, respectively, but only on a recurring basis. (Reyes can already be found elsewhere on ABC as part of the High Potential cast.) Some of the newcomers are likely going to be familiar faces to comedy fans as well, with SNL alum Vanessa Bayer part of the cast. At this point, though, after what Zach Braff said about the tone and my memories of certain tear-jerking twists from the original series, I'm interested to see just how the revival is finding a balance between humor and heart in 2026.

While all the answers won't be available until the premiere arrives on ABC (and streaming with a Hulu subscription), Zach Braff opened up to CinemaBlend about how the revival will handle the unpopular final season that cut out the majority of the original cast and shifted the focus of the series.

Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke attended SCAD TVfest in Atlanta ahead of the Scrubs premiere to receive the Cast Award. While that would be an unexpected award for most actors when their premiere is still weeks away, the trio appeared in nearly 200 episodes each as their Scrubs characters between across nine seasons from 2001-2010.

That said, the ninth season wasn't received terribly well by fans, with only Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and John C. McGinley returning as regulars and the story shifting to focus on med students. It honestly felt more like a different show than a final season. So, when I spoke with the actors at SCAD TVfest, I had to ask: do they consider the new 2026 version of Scrubs to be a revival, a Season 10, or a Season 9?

Sarah Chalke quickly responded that it's a "revival," and Braff followed up:

While this isn't going to erase the ninth season of the original Scrubs, the cast isn't thinking of the new show as a Season 10, and the story is going to follow the crew from those popular first eight seasons. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke are all returning as series regulars, so viewers can count on plenty of shenanigans from J.D., Turk, and Elliot.

It remains to be seen how much we'll see of other characters like Carla and Dr. Cox. Judy Reyes (who is currently busy elsewhere on ABC as a member of the High Potential cast) and John C. McGinley are billed as recurring in the new show. A cameo or two from Season 9 could be fun, but the OG cast is back in the spotlight. Braff continued:

For better or worse, the implications of the emotional ending from the Season 8 finale, which was originally expected to be the series finale, will be where the revival picks up rather than sticking with what happened at the end of what Bill Lawrence intended to be Scrubs: Med School. A promo for the new batch of episodes reveals the familiar faces on the way, including Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley alongside the returning series regulars. Take a look:

J.D. and Turk may be past their prime when it comes to doing the Eagle and Zach Braff's character may be "Oldie" rather than "Newbie" to Dr. Cox now, but a lot of the humor seems in line with what fans loved about the show's first eight seasons. There's even a look at another returning character: The Todd himself.

Fortunately, the wait isn't too much longer to see how the revival compares to the original. Scrubs arrives on ABC on Wednesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. ET. Interestingly, it will be up against another medical TV show in that time slot, although Scrubs and Chicago Med over on NBC are very different kinds of hospital series. In the final weeks before the premiere, you can always revisit those first eight seasons streaming on Hulu.

Scrubs is set to cater to original fans and newcomers to the medical sitcom when it premieres next month, but longtime followers of the comings and goings of Sacred Heart Hospital are going to inevitably miss Jenkins and Flynn’s characters. Here’s what Braff had to say on the subject:

During a new interview with Esquire, Zach Braff suggested that the return of Kelso and the janitor is possible, but hasn’t been written into the series thus far. (It’s also entirely possible that Braff wants to keep their planned or future appearances a secret to surprise fans.)

Additionally, from what we know about the new Scrubs show, it’s already bringing back a bunch of original characters alongside some new cast members as interns at Sacred Heart. It sounds like it might not quite make sense storywise to throw too many characters at audiences at once. As Braff also said:

The upcoming season of Scrubs, which is effectively Season 10, has Zach Braff’s J.D., Donald Faison’s Turk and Sarah Chalke’s Elliot listed as main characters and the likes of John C. McGinley’s Dr. Perry Cox, Judy Reyes’ Carla, Robert Maschio’s Dr. Todd Quinlan and Phill Lewis’ Dr. Hooch back on the roster as recurring and/or guest stars.

Then there’s the new cast, which consists of SNL’s Vanessa Bayer as a wellness guru named Sibby and Joel Kim Booster as an attending physician named Dr. Eric Park. The new intern class will be played by Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Ava Bunn, Layla Mohammadi and Amanda Morrow. It’ll be fun to see what the new dynamic will be at Sacred Heart, and it’s great to know that Jenkins and Flynn could return to the show at some point.

The series was revived by original creator Bill Lawrence, who has recently gone on to do Ted Lasso and Shrinking for Apple TV. We’ll be able to see the two-episode premiere of Scrubs on February 25 on ABC, and you can stream it the next day with a Hulu subscription.

While Scrubs, one of the best sitcoms of all time, was a great platform for Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn to show off their comedic chops, there were also many side characters who were instrumental to the show’s success. Sad sack Ted Buckley, played by the late Sam Lloyd, was one of them, which makes it all the sadder that we won’t see him in the Scrubs revival premiering next month on the 2026 TV schedule. However, Braff has shared the touching way that the show will honor his former scene-stealing co-star.

Sam Lloyd passed away in 2020 at the age of 56 after being diagnosed with both a brain tumor and metastatic lung cancer. While Scrubs fans like myself will surely feel Ted’s absence when the revival gets underway, Zach Braff informed Esquire that one of the show’s new locations has been named after Lloyd:

This reminds me of how the bar frequented in the short-lived Frasier revival was named Mahoney’s after John Mahoney, who played the title character’s father in the original show and died in 2018. I’m glad that Sam Lloyd no longer being with us isn’t going unnoticed on Scrubs, though causal viewers likely won’t recognize the reference. I also hope that the revival is able to fit in a direct tribute episode to Lloyd/Ted, whether it be towards the end of this first season that’s still filming or sometime in Season 2, assuming that gets greenlit.

Sam Lloyd debuted as Ted Buckland in Scrubs’ very first episode, which aired on October 2, 2001, and he recurred as the hapless lawyer and frequent target of Dr. Kelso’s cruelness in 95 episodes across all nine seasons of its original run. Lloyd also appeared as Ted in three episodes of Cougar Town, which, like Scrubs, was created by Bill Lawrence. Though Lawrence is busy these days making Apple TV subscription-exclusive shows like Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Sugar, he is involved in the revival as an executive producer, though Aseem Batra is handling showrunning duties.

In the age of revivals and reboots, fans will soon be graced with a new chapter of Scrubs. With that, the two actors -- and real-life buddies -- shared thoughts on how the show will appeal to fans old and new.

With this new season, the producers have a chance to shed light on certain topics impacting the healthcare profession today. While speaking to People for their Sexiest Man Alive issue, Braff explained how the team is ensuring the show is fresh:

A mixture of veteran and new writers could indeed insure that the series evolves but maintains its core essence. Of course, it can’t be exactly like the original series, especially since a lot of time has passed, but having both fresh eyes and seasoned writers could make it that much better. That’s not all that fans will be able to look forward to either as Faison added:

Since a lot of the OG characters will still be present, it makes sense that the series would continue the story arcs fans have known and loved for years, while also telling a new narrative. Scrubs ended in 2010, so that’s 15 years of story that fans have missed out on, assuming that the revival takes place in real time. In theory, this could mean there will be a lot to catch up on, but Faison and Braff's comments are making me optimistic about what's to come.

On another note, the revival will not simply copy the OG show. Creator Bill Lawrence, who isn’t heavily involved since he’s with Warner Bros. and Scrubs is a Disney show, said Braff wanted not to retread old ground. That's understandable since Braff's older and JD will likely be in a different place in his life as well.

As a fan of the original Scrubs, I am excited and nervous to see how the revival turns out. It goes without saying that TV offshoots can be hit or miss, but I'm keeping the faith that it'll work. Fans can judge for themselves when the first two episodes premiere on ABC on Wednesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. ET and later becomes streamable with a Disney+ subscription.

After it was announced that Zach Braff would reprise JD in the Scrubs revival, we learned that Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley will also be back to respectively play Turk, Elliot and Dr. Cox. Now we have these five, along with Bill Lawrence, back together in a photograph taken from the first Scrubs 2.0 table read:

It does my heart good to see these familiar faces that entertained viewers on NBC for the first seven seasons of Scrubs, then on ABC for the final two seasons. Braff, Faison and Chalke will be series regulars, and Reyes and McGinley will be recurring guest stars. The photo was accompanied by the previously-released synopsis:

This ties nicely back to Bill Lawrence’s previous comments about how Scrubs 2.0 will explore what it’s like to be an older doctor and that this revival can’t just be a repeat of the original show. Lawrence won’t be as hands-on with the new Scrubs given his busy schedule handling Warner Bros.Televsion-produced shows that can be streamed with an Apple TV+ subscription, like Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Bad Monkey. Instead fellow executive producers Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra are the showrunners. Jeff Ingold and Lisa Katzer from Lawrence’s production company Doozer Productions are also executive producing.

What’s The Status Of Kelso And The Janitor In The Scrubs Revival?

I’m glad that this photo was shared today and look forward to seeing official production images. However, there are two familiar faces from the original Scrubs main cast missing: Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn, who played Dr. Kelso and The Janitor, respectively. I’ve been wondering about their involvement in the Scrubs revival, and their absence in this photo has me even more curious.

At this point, I wasn’t expecting either of those two actors to be series regulars on Scrubs 2.0, especially Jenkins, who’s 85 years old. Still, it would feel weird for him and Flynn to not show up on the revival, even if it’s only for one episode. Also, since that table read is almost certainly for the first episode, perhaps Kelso and Janitor won’t appear until later in the season. That would be fine with me, I just hope we get to check in on these two at least once, as it’d be nice to learn what they’ve been up to in the last decade and a half.

Last December, Lawrence signed on to develop a Scrubs revival for ABC, and last month, the network ordered it to series. However, don’t go into the new Scrubs thinking it’ll just be a repeat of the original series, as Bill Lawrence referenced an old Zach Braff quote to make this point about that.

It’s been 15 years since since Scrubs wrapped its nine-season run on ABC, and the TV landscape has changed a lot since then, both with the rise of streaming and different approaches with small screen storytelling. Lawrence mentioned in an interview with THR that one of the things that’s been important for him to do with his more recent shows is to make it “feel like the characters are going on new adventures.” When the interviewer brought up how they think The Bear hasn’t really pushed Carmen’s storyline forward, even though they didn’t want to “slam” the FX on Hulu show, Lawrence responded:

Zach Braff was the first actor to sign onto the Scrubs revival, which isn’t surprising consider his character, JD, was the original show’s leading character its first eight seasons, followed by having a supporting role in a portion of Season 9. But a lot can change in a decade and a half, and in early June, Braff said the revival needed to ensure that its exploration of JD as an older doctor who’s been “beaten down by the system” doesn’t just rehash what we went through when he first started working at Sacred Heart. It sounds like Bill Lawrence is in agreement.

This is a far cry from when Scrubs 1.0 was still on the air, as Lawrence recalled the following moment from when Braff was doing press during what was originally supposed to be the final season:

To be fair, Scrubs aired at a time when episodes of comedy shows were oftentimes more standalone, making it easier for people who caught said shows in reruns to follow along. But Scrubs 2.0 will make more of an effort to show noticeable character development, and thankfully, Zach Braff won’t be the only alum back for this next round. Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke are confirmed to be respectively reprising Turk and Elliot. John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes are reportedly also having talks about coming back as Dr. Cox and Carla, respectively, but there’s been no word about if Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn will be back as Dr. Kelso and The Janitor.

While it’s unlikely that the Scrubs revival will be ready to premiere on the 2025 TV schedule, there’s still plenty of time to prepare it as a midseason offering in 2026. For now, you’re welcome to revisit the original series with your Hulu subscription.

Ever since the Scrubs reboot was announced, I’ve been with fans and their reservations over why the beloved comedy is returning. However, now that the series is really coming together over at ABC complete with two exciting cast additions, I’m officially ready to put this series on my must-watch list. I just wish I had an update on two key actors I want to be involved in the show as well.

Donald Faison And Sarah Chalke Are Back With Zach Braff For The Reboot

What was Scrubs really going to be without the hilarious and moving bromance that is J.D. and Turk? Per a new Variety report, Donald Faison is officially going to be in the new version of the show with Zach Braff (who was the first actor to be announced to be coming back), and I’m over the moon about it. I mean I knew those T-Mobile commercials weren’t for nothing! The logline even gives us a better idea of how their relationship will pick up in the new series:

Braff and Faison are not the only returning cast members for Scrubs, though. Sarah Chalke, a.k.a. Elliot Reid, has also signed on as well. While the main romance of Scrubs was always between the two bros, J.D. and Elliot’s love story was always adorable, and I cannot wait to catch up with those lovebirds after they got married and had a child together by the end of the original series.

If you can believe it, it’s been 15 years since Scrubs ended! Zach Braff has talked about his interest to explore J.D’s life nowadays, and I’m so happy he’ll get to do that with two main cast members from the original series. I’m on board now, especially knowing that original creator Bill Lawrence is behind it as well.

Now, I Just Need Two More Original Actors To Scrub In

In the latest Scrubs news, Bill Lawrence shared he’s “excited for the chance to get the band back together,” but that leaves me with two questions. 1) Is Judy Reyes coming back? And 2) How about John C. McGinley? Reyes of course played Turk’s wife, Carla, and McGinley played perhaps the most hilarious role in the whole show as Dr. Cox. Having those two back would really help round out the cast for me!

Thankfully the report does say ”more original cast members are expected to return” and a separate report from Deadline suggests Reyes is having “positive scheduling conversations” with ABC about doing both High Potential and Scrubs. Earlier this year, McGinley made plans to work with Lawrence on a new comedy for HBO (per Deadline). Since those two are already in active contact, I imagine he could show up in some capacity, but I’ll be curious how much.

Anyways, I’m so happy to see one of my favorite comedies from the 2000s return to network TV. I want to see more funny TV shows in my weekly viewing schedule, and having Scrubs back in for the 2025/2026 season is going to warm my heart.

Zach Braff opened up about what’s being planned for the Scrubs reboot while he and Bill Lawrence were at the ATX TV Festival (via TVLine). While it’s important for this revival to maintain the lighthearted elements that helped make its predecessor (which can be streamed with a Hulu subscription) so popular, it’s also important to acknowledge that being a doctor is much different compared to when JD first joined Sacred Heart. As Braff explained:

Zach Braff’s statement echoes what Bill Lawrence said in October 2024, just a few months before he started developing the Scrubs reboot. Back then, he stated that Scrubs 2.0 couldn’t have characters like JD, Turk and Elliot be “super idealistic” like they were when we first met them, and that there would’t be the cliché of “rich doctors playing golf.” This time around, Lawrence acknowledged as Braff was speaking that “medicine has changed a lot,” though in “some very comedic ways” as well as “dark” ways. Braff then continued:

It’s been 15 years since Scrubs’ ninth and final season ended, and if the reboot is greenlit, I don’t expect that it’ll be ready to air on ABC until the 2026-2027 TV season at the earliest. So we’re talking about reuniting with JD and the gang over a decade and a half later; that’s a lot of time for the medical field to look much different. Judging by what Zach Braff says, it sounds like there’s no intention to take away JD’s goofiness and affection for his loved ones, but perhaps his earnestness will be toned down a bit as a result of that “system” wearing away at him.

We’ll learn more about what Scrubs 2.0 has in store as more actors, both new and returning come aboard, and I’m crossing my fingers that ABC goes forward with the reboot. The original Scrubs is one of the best sitcoms of all time, and considering how the final season was disappointing to many fans, I’m hopeful that the new version can balance recapturing that original spirit, while also making necessary tweaks and adjustments to account for the passage of time.

As someone who came of age during Scrubs’ original run, I’ve long considered it not only a great medical show but also one of the best sitcoms of all time. While the Zach Braff-led series, with all its celebrity cameos and long list of great episodes, has been off the air for nearly 16 years, we’ll soon be going back to Sacred Heart Hospital.

When Will The Scrubs Revival Premiere?

The Scrubs revival series will land on the 2026 TV schedule in a matter of weeks, as ABC has announced a February 25 return for the beloved show. That’s right near the 16th anniversary of the Scrubs Season 9 finale and nearly a quarter-century since J.D. first walked into Sacred Heart back in October 2001.

Not only will episodes air the old-fashioned way on ABC, but they’ll also be streaming for anyone with a Hulu subscription.

The Scrubs Series Revival Will Consist Of Nine Episodes

Considering Scrubs is returning to the airwaves with a mid-season premiere, it was unlikely the show would get a full 20-to-23-episode order. That said, as Zach Braff and Donald Faison revealed on their Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald podcast (via Screenrant) in August 2025, the new revival will consist of nine episodes. This still gives us plenty of time for those signature daydream sequences, J.D. and Turk yelling “Eagle!” through the hallways of Sacred Heart, and all sorts of surprises come February 2026.

What About Dr. Kelso And The Janitor?

I’m sure I’m not the only one who looked at that list above and thought: Aren’t there two major characters missing? As of this writing (less than a month before the premiere), Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn’s characters aren’t set to appear on the show, at least not in the first few episodes.

When speaking with Esquire ahead of the series’ return, Zach Braff said that both actors want to come back, it’s just that the creative team is trying to make it work. Even so, if they don’t appear this season, and Scrubs is given a second season, Braff said it’s a strong possibility:

I find it hard to believe that two of the most recognizable characters from the show’s first run won’t be around, but we shall see.

In the same interview, Braff also hinted at a tribute to Sam Lloyd, who passed away in 2020. According to Braff, the revival will honor the man who famously played Ted Buckley by naming the characters’ after-hours hangout Lloyd’s Tavern.

What Will The Scrubs Revival Be About?

One of the big questions I had upon hearing that Bill Lawrence was bringing Scrubs back to life revolved around its setup: will it be a reboot or a revival of the original series? Well, the Ted Lasso and Shrinking creator told Deadline in October 2024 that it won’t be one or the other, but instead a combination of the two, stating:

Though that didn’t answer many questions at the time, ABC has since announced that the revival will follow J.D. and Turk as they “scrub in together for the first time in a long time.” Coming back to Sacred Heart Hospital with new patients, new interns, and a whole new world of medicine, a lot can happen when these two get back in the swing of things.

When speaking with People Magazine in November 2025, Zach Braff and Donald Faison opened up about the tone and feel of the series, saying that there will be a combination of both old and new when the show returns:

• Zach Braff: There's a very young writers staff along with some of the brilliant original writers on Scrubs, and I think this young, very diverse group of writers will help us crack that case.
• Donald Faison: I think a lot of the story still holds up too. You're still following your favorite doctors, your heroes to some people. Regardless of what's happened from season one through nine, the core story is still there and people really want to see that.

I must say, it will be interesting to see how the two eras melt together. This could be a really cool direction for the staff of Sacred Heart.

After years of anticipation, ABC finally gave us a proper look at the upcoming Scrubs series revival in January 2026. Though it’s not a full trailer (hopefully, we get this sooner or later), the teaser dropped on the Scrubs Instagram account does have me even more excited for what’s to come:

The brief teaser starts off with JD and Turk spotting each other in the halls of Sacred Heart as they break out a classic “Eagle” for old time’s sake. What follows is some laughs, cast returns, and a whole lot of heart. February 25 can’t come soon enough!

Series Creator Bill Lawrence Will Not Be Writing Or Showrunning Scrubs, But Is Involved

Though Bill Lawrence, who will defend the Scrubs reboot to anyone and everyone, won’t be writing the series revival or serving as showrunner (this guy is super busy with Ted Lasso Season 4 and the upcoming new season of Shrinking), he will be heavily involved with the project.

According to Deadline, the prolific TV producer will serve as an executive producer for the medical dramedy series once again.

How To Watch The Original Scrubs Series Online

We’re only a few weeks away from the return of Scrubs, but make sure to check back leading up to the premiere for all the latest.

There are certain comedies that were formative in my teenage years and helped develop the sense of humor. Scrubs is one of those shows, not to mention that it ranks as one of the best sitcoms of all time. So you can imagine that I was excited when it was announced in December that a Scrubs reboot is in development for ABC. Now my excitement has kicked up a notch, as word’s come in that Zach Braff is the first returning actor to sign on for the reboot.

Although it was said in December that plans were in motion to bring back Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke and John C. McGinley for this new iteration of Scrubs, Deadline reports that Braff has signed a deal to reprise John “J.D.” Dorian. According to the publication, the negotiations hit “major hurdles” over both money and Braff wanting to shoot Scrubs 2.0 (as I’ll be informally calling it) in Los Angeles rather than Vancouver as originally intended. Apparently things got to a point where there was a chance the reboot could be scrapped, but the two sides recently “came to an agreement,” although a filming location still hasn’t been revealed.

While Scrubs 2.0 hasn’t technically been ordered to series yet, Zach Braff coming aboard definitely improves the chances of that happening. A Scrubs reboot had been discussed for years, but it wasn’t until creator Bill Lawrence worked out a special arrangement to tackle the project that it finally started getting off the ground. Lawrence is still exclusively signed with Warner Bros. Television, where he’s created shows like Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Bad Monkey. It took months for him to be granted clearance to work on Scrubs 2.0, although he won’t be the showrunner like last time.

Zach Braff and Bill Lawrence continued to work together in the years after Scrubs (which can be streamed with a Hulu subscription) ended in 2010. Braff cameoed in an episode of Lawrence’s follow-up sitcom Cougar Town, directed episodes of Ted Lasso and Shrinking, and also appeared in two episodes of Bad Monkey. Additionally, he and Lawrence are working on the “Untitled Steve Carell Project” in development for HBO.

Now that Braff is on deck for Scrubs 2.0, Deadline says that 20th Century Television will begin negotiations for Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes to reprise their roles too. Reyes is currently a series regular on ABC’s High Potential, so it’s hard to say if scheduling conflicts would prevent her participation as a series regular. It’s also unclear if we can expect to see Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn return for Scrubs 2.0, as they rounded out the main cast that anchored the original show for all but its final season.

We’ll continue passing along updates on how Scrubs 2.0 is coming along. Signing Zach Braff is excellent news, but this project has a long way to go before it reaches our eyes and ears.

Major spoilers are ahead for Bad Monkey Season 1, Episode 4 – “Nothing’s Wrong With It, I Just Don’t Need It Anymore.” Read with caution, and get caught up by streaming the show with an Apple TV+ subscription.

So far, the book-to-screen adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s Bad Monkey has been full of wild twists and fun action. However, Episode 4, which just aired on the 2024 TV schedule, kicked that all up a notch as we got the bloody backstory behind how Nick (Rob Delaney) lost his arm. Now, Zach Braff, who plays the doctor who sawed off Nick’s arm, is opening up about how they shot it and just how bloody it was.

Despite Braff’s character getting shot in Episode 3, he’s actually heavily featured in the next episode, because it’s a massive flashback. In it, we learn that his character Izzy is great friends with Rob Delaney’s Nick, and they were running a scammy business together. However, things took a turn, and that led to Izzy cutting off Nick’s arm.

I asked Braff about filming this episode, and he spoke so highly of his co-star, specifically referencing the extra bloody scene:

It was also crazy to watch. Seeing the house covered in clear plastic and Nick on a makeshift operating table was jarring. Then, watching Zach Braff’s character saw off his arm while getting splattered with blood was wild.

Continuing with his story about the scene, the Scrubs star rightly namechecked one of the best horror movies of all time while breaking down how they filmed this moment:

Considering Nick got legitimately covered in blood while cutting off Nick's arm in the show, I totally get the Carrie reference. This scene was gruesome and shocking, because the last thing I expected to learn in the mystery of how Nick lost his arm was that it was his and Eve’s idea and they asked Izzy to do it.

However, considering the show is based around the comedic genius of Vince Vaughn, Braff, Delaney and the impeccable cast of Bad Monkey, whacky turns like this make total sense. They're also wicked fun to watch too.

Overall, this pivotal scene in Bad Monkey not only revealed vital information about Nick and Eve’s plan and past, but it also served as an action-packed and fantastic sequence that involved some cool practical effects. So, it was so fun to hear Zach Braff’s perspective on shooting it all.

As Bad Monkey has been airing on the 2024 TV schedule, I’ve been looking forward to all the silly antics that come with it simply because the series is set in Florida. However, not only is it set in the Southern state, but they filmed it there too. So, when I interviewed the cast about their Apple TV+ series, I asked about shooting there, and I was delighted to hear Zach Braff talk about the “man date” he went on with Rob Delaney that involved alligators of all things.

In the book-to-screen adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s Florida Keys-based whodunnit, Zach Braff plays a drunken doctor named Israel “Izzy” O’Peele and Rob Delaney plays Nick Stripling. In Episode 3, we find out that both characters are connected to Eve, but they haven’t really shared a scene. However, while they were in Florida shooting Bill Lawrence's show they spent a lot of time together behind the scenes, and even went on a fun “man date,” as the Scrubs actor told me:

I’m sorry sir, what? While this story baffled me in the moment, honestly, it makes sense. As of now, both these actors haven’t been in Bad Monkey much, so it seems like they had some time to bop around Florida. However, after Episode 3’s big reveal about Delaney’s character’s real identity and Izzy’s introduction and death, I have a feeling that will change.

Also, as I said, they filmed this show in Florida…so anything can happen there.

During my interview with Bill Lawrence, who created Bad Monkey, he explained all the wildlife guidelines they had to follow while filming the show. Plus, I think everyone knows that Florida is known for its gators, so it seems fitting that Delaney and Braff would go on this fun little outing together.

However, I wish they would have filmed it, I would have loved to see their lil off-set adventure.

Now, I’m just excited to keep watching Bad Monkey, because I want shenanigans like this to happen on the show.

In the first three episodes alone, we have seen quite a bit of Florida tomfoolery, considering a monkey plays a big part in the story, the mystery revolves around an arm that Vince Vaughn’s character was carrying around in a cooler with popsicles, and a golf cart was driven into the water. So, I imagine there’s more to come as the mystery unfolds, and hopefully, it involves Braff and Delaney working together.

The A Good Person director did note while telling this story that his co-star is a “really skilled” improviser like Vince Vaughn, and Braff is a skilled comedian himself. So, I’m very excited about what’s to come, based on this off-set story alone.

Bill Lawrence is known for creating some of Apple TV+’s best shows, and with a cast full of comedic geniuses who love to spend time together doing things like seeing alligators, it seems like Bad Monkey is headed in that direction too. Weeks after Who Wants To Be a Millionaire teamed up former sitcom co-stars John Stamos and Dave Coulier, a pair of Scrubs alums joined forces to try and win money for their charities of choice. Zach Braff and Donald Faison, who are already collaborating on a Scrubs rewatch podcast, put their heads together to try and hit the $1 million mark with Jimmy Kimmel as host. Well, the two didn't quite win that $1 million, but I thought that their opposing takes on the immortal Titanic door debate were absolutely priceless.

The Titanic door debate of course refers to fan discourse over the past quarter century about whether or not Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) really needed to die at the end of James Cameron's iconic film, since there seemed to be plenty of room on Rose's (Kate Winslet) floating door. Zach Braff and Donald Faison – who were playing Who Wants To be a Millionaire for Midnight Mission and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, respectively – found themselves on the subject when facing the $32,000 question, which was:

After it sold at auction for over $700k, Time described a buoyant slab of balsa wood as "arguably the...third most significant character" in what film?

• A. Cast Away
• B. Brokeback Mountain
• C. Die Hard
• D. Titanic

To Zach Braff's credit, he guessed Titanic even before Jimmy Kimmel started to name the A-D options, so the issue on the table wasn't really whether Cast Away, Brokeback Mountain, or Die Hard were contenders. The debate was one that has been ongoing since the Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet-starring film released back in 1997: was there room for Jack on that door next to Rose to survive the sinking? Here's how the co-stars/friends approached it:

• Braff: "When everyone debates whether there was room for Jack on the door ––"
• Faison: "There was room for Jack on the door, bro."
• Braff: "But James Cameron has said 'no, everyone who's saying I was wrong. It was a matter of buoyancy.'"
• Faison: "Bullcrap, because he's hanging on the door the whole time like this [poses like Jack in Titanic] looking at her, man! And she threw him in the water! She threw him in the water!"
• Braff: "I agree, but this has been tested. James Cameron did a whole special in a tank. I saw it."

Well, the Scrubs stars had their own takes, and I for one can't wait until this episode of Millionaire is streaming with a Hulu subscription so I can rewatch the argument again. It's really worth more than one watch, not least because of Donald Faison striking a pose to match what Jack was doing in his final moments before Rose promised to "Never let go" in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean... and then let him go.

Kate Winslet has shared her thoughts on people still having this debate decades after the movie came out, and James Cameron went in-depth – no pun intended – on why that door definitely couldn't have supported both Jack and Rose. He also admitted that Jack just "needed to die" for Romeo and Juliet-esque story reasons, and I definitely can't argue with that! Would Titanic be as beloved and debated today if not for Jack tragically sinking to the bottom of the ocean and a freezing Rose finding the will to live with a beautifully sad song playing over the soundtrack? Some movies just aren't meant for purely happy endings!

Acting and directing are two very different skills, and for someone to be able to do both is a mark of a hard-working and talented person. It doesn't always work out for actors, but it's remarkable how often it does. Here are 32 such examples of great actors who became great directors as well. 

Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood's career has lasted an unbelievable eight decades. He started humbling with small roles in the '50s and as the decades have gone on, he's only gotten bigger and bigger. After directing his first movie, 1971's Play Misty for Me, he's gone on to helm a remarkable 39 more and has won 2 Best Director Oscars, for 1993's Unforgiven and 2005's Million Dollar Baby.

Ron Howard

Ron Howard has been in the lives and living rooms of Americans since he was just a kid as an actor on The Andy Griffith Show. He went on to star in Happy Days in the 1970s before directing his first low-budget film, Grand Theft Auto, in 1977. He's since gone on to direct such classics as Splash, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and many others. 

Bradley Cooper

If the start of Bradley Cooper's directing career is any indication, you can expect huge things. So far, the actor-turned-director has only helmed two movies, A Star Is Born and Maestro and both have been nominated for Best Picture Oscars. Not a shabby record. 

Penny Marshall

Penny Marshall got her first big break on the sitcom The Odd Couple but became a household name as Lavern in Lavern & Shirley. She didn't stay in TV though, instead, she started directing and made two of the most beloved Gen X movies of all time, Big and A League of Their Own. 

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck might not have been the first actor you picked to become a director, but his stellar career as an actor is matched by his work as a director. In fact, though he's never won an acting Oscar (something that should be remedied), he did win Best Director for Argo. 

Robert Redford

By the time Robert Redford directed his first movie, Ordinary People, in 1980, he was already one of the most legendary film stars ever. The second half of his career is as known for his directing as it is for his acting, with movies like Quiz Show and A River Runs Through It.

Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau's acting career started humbling with supporting roles in movies like Rudy and PCU. After he wrote and starred in Swingers, his star shined a little brighter. That was only the beginning though. Favreau has the honor of directing the movie that launched the most successful film franchise of all time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Iron Man and its sequel. He's since moved on to Disney live-action remakes with The Lion King and The Jungle Book. Oh, and he also directed one of the most beloved holiday movies ever with. Elf.

Mel Gibson

The controversial career of Mel Gibson began with a small movie that made huge waves in his native Australia. Mad Max made him famous and by the late late-'80s, he was one of the biggest stars in the world. He then moved into directing and reached his pinnacle early with Braveheart for which he won Best Director. 

Richard Attenborough

As an actor, Richard Attenborough starred in massive hits across generations with movies like The Great Escape and Jurassic Park. As a director, he helmed some of the best biopics of all time, like Gandhi, A Cry Freedom, and Chaplin as well a the legendary war flick, A Bridge Too Far. 

Regina King

Regina King's directorial career is only getting started, but judging by her first movie, One Night In Miami, the future is bright. So far, the Academy Award-winning actress has mostly directed TV shows, but you can be sure more films will be coming her way.

Denzel Washington

What can we say about Denzel Washington that hasn't already been said? He's a living legend at this point, as a multiple Oscar winner and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He's also one heck of a director with movies like Fences and The Great Debaters.

John Krasinski

John Krasinski became part of our collective family as Jim on The Office. Who would have thought from that role, his career in Hollywood would reach the point that he is a major power player? Now that he's moved into directing, the sky is truly the limit. The first movie Krasinski directed, The Hollars, made for a humble beginning, but his second, A Quiet Place established him as a force to reckon with and it's since become a franchise.

Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks might not have been an actor you'd have guessed would go into directing, like others on this list, but she has in a big way. She has shown she can direct blockbusters like Pitch Perfect 2 and indie darlings like that one about the bear who indulges in some, uh, white powder he finds, and goes on a rampage.

Greta Gerwig

Greta Gerwig is quickly becoming a voice of a generation. Her direction and writing of Barbie has been praised far and wide for its snappy dialog and heartfelt message. Gerwig's acting career started in the mid-'00s when she was mostly in smaller, supporting roles. Since moving into directing, she's become a huge star.

Jordan Peele

Key & Peele was a huge hit for Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, and made them both stars. No one expected Peele to turn to directing horror movies, but that's exactly what he did and we should all be grateful for it. With massive hits like Get Out, Nope, and Us, the future is bright for Peele and for all of us too, who will get to watch his work.

Rob Reiner

Though he had a leg up coming from a Hollywood family, Rob Reiner has staked out a claim all his own in the entertainment business. First as an actor on the hit show All in the Family, then as the director of some of the most loved movies of all time. Starting with his first movie, This is Spinal Tap, and running through the '80s and early '90s, he had an unbelievable run that included The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, and Misery. Wow!

George Clooney

Not only is George Clooney one of the most bankable movie stars ever, he's also a fantastic director. His acting career is legendary and his directing career, while not quite at the level of his acting, is still fantastic. He's directed TV (Catch-22) and movies (The Boys In The Boat, The Midnight Sky, Good Night, and Good Luck, among others) and you can be sure there will be more from him.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie's directing career hasn't always gotten the best reviews, but I'd say her movies are very underrated. The talented actress has an eye for behind the camera as well, and movies like Unbroken and First They Killed My Father are powerful movies.

Billy Bob Thornton

Billy Bob Thornton's acting career came on as a slow burn to fame, but his directing career started with a band. His first film was a masterpiece called Sling Blade. he followed that up with the underrated All The Pretty Horse and a few others, though his pace has slowed over the last couple of decades. Let's hope he finds that directing bug again. 

Ben Stiller

There was a time in the '90s and '00s when it seemed like Ben Stiller was in every movie released. Not only was he working hard in front of the camera, he was killing it behind the camera as well. Starting really with Reality Bites, and moving on to great movies like the controversial but hilarious Tropic Thunder, and the Zoolander movies. 

Jodie Foster

The great Jodie Foster has been an acclaimed actor and star since her teenage years and of course, that talent has translated to directing. Though lately she's done mostly TV work like directing episodes of Black Mirror and Orange is the New Black, she's done a few movies too, like Little Man Tate and Money Monster.

Kevin Costner

In addition to being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Kevin Costner has never shied away from making epic films. Though he's only directed four movies in his career, they have all been big films. Starting with Dances With Wolves in 1990, he's since directed The Postman, Open Range, and 2024's Horizon: An American Saga.

Tim Robbins

The directing bug caught Tim Robbins in the early '90s and he directed a couple of great movies with Bob Roberts and Dead Man Walking. He's directed a smattering of movies and TV shows more recently, but he's mostly stuck to acting over the last few years. 

Sean Penn

Since the early 1980s, Sean Penn has been wowing moviegoers with his impressive acting chops and diversity. In the '90s he dipped his toe into directing with his first film, The Indian Runner and has directed a good handful of movies since, with his best being Into The Wild in 2007. 

Zach Braff

Acting-wise Zach Braff's big break came as a regular cast member of the hit sitcom Scrubs. As a directed, he burst onto the scene with his very first movie, Garden State in 2004. He's continued directing here and there over the last 20 years, including the great movie about getting older, Going In Style, and a few others, in addition to some TV work. 

Warren Beatty

In the 1970s, there was no bigger movie star than Warren Beatty. By the end of the decade, he had moved into directing as well, starting with 1978's Heaven Can Wait and continuing the '80s and '90s with acclaimed movies like Red and maybe his most remembered, Dick Tracy in 1990.

Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton is a force of nature. For decades she's been one of the best and most popular actresses in Hollywood, and though she's only dipped her toes into directing, mostly in TV, she's on this list for one important reason. Keaton directed the music video for "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" by Belinda Carlisle and that is a stone-cold Gen X classic. 

Kenneth Branagh

Kenneth Branagh might be as well known for his directing as he is for his acting, and that's really saying something. Not only has he directed some of the best Shakespeare adaptions for the silver screen, but more recently he's been killing it with his Agatha Christie adaptations. 

Leonard Nimoy

Appropriately, Leonard Nimoy's first foray into feature film direction came in the Star Trek franchise when he directed both Star Trek III: The Search For Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Outside of the iconic franchise he helped make famous he also directed the beloved Three Men and a Baby. 

Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone has always been a self-starter. His work to get the original Rocky made is legendary and after it made him a huge star, he wasted no time getting into directing, starting with Rocky II and adding Rocky III, Rocky IV, and 2006's Rocky Balboa as well. Of course, he's also directed in two other franchises he was at the center of with 2008's Rambo and the first Expendable movie. 

Helen Hunt

This one might surprise you, but Helen Hunt has had an impressive career as a director. Most of her work has been on television on shows varying from her own Mad About You and This Is Us. She also has two feature films under her belt with 2007's Then She Found Me and 2014's Ride. 

Joel Edgerton

Joel Edgerton is seemingly everywhere these days, popping up in all kinds of movies and TV shows from Star Wars stuff to Dark Matter. He's also started directing, but his output is limited, with 2015's underrated The Gift and 2018 Boy Erased. Let's hope he finds more time to direct in his busy schedule. 

Scrubs may have ended over 10 years ago, but the series remains a favorite among fans. Despite the show losing its way toward the end, the cast still remains close, even occasionally reuniting for commercials and other events and projects. Now, some of them have gotten together again just for the heck of it, and I am in my feels.

John C. McGinley, known as Dr. Perry Cox on the medical sitcom, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a photo of an impromptu reunion with Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Christa Miller. The Talk co-host Amanda Kloots also took part, as her late husband Nick Cordero starred alongside Braff in Bullets Over Broadway in 2014 on Broadway.

Considering it’s been so long since Scrubs was last on the air, it is nice to see them still hanging out. Honestly, the happiness and nostalgia I'm feeling right now is a lot to handle. 

While the photo didn't feature the whole cast, most notably Donald Faison, a few of them are definitely better than nothing. Plus, this very likely won’t be the last reunion the Scrubs cast has, whether impromptu or not, so there are always more chances in the future. It’s just really making me wish that Scrubs was still on the air, because I desperately need more now. 

Seeing how close they are after 14 years, could this mean that an actual Scrubs reunion might happen? I sure hope so! 

In 2023, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence told Variety that a reunion project was “inevitable,” but he hilariously noted that they see each other so often it would have to take them not hanging out for six months for an on-screen reunion to happen. Who’s to say that he’s not already cooking something up? He’s obviously interested in doing more, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the cast feels the same way, and not just because they are constantly hanging out. 

Scrubs premiered in 2001 on NBC and ran for eight seasons. It was then picked up by ABC for Season 9, and the series came to an end in 2010 after that installment. While the Scrubs cast has been plenty busy since the series finale, it’s clear that the show still means a lot to them and their friendship. Whether or not there will ever be a revival or reboot of some sort in the future, at least it seems like there will still be a reunion between them every once in a while, even if it is only off-camera. 

That alone gives me a lot of feelings, because while I desperately want a reunion, I'm also happy to see the cast simply hanging out together and enjoying life. 

Hopefully, another Scrubs reunion happens in the future that includes many more cast members, but this latest photo will surely hold fans down for now. The good news is that these reunions don’t seem to be stopping, so it shouldn’t be long until the next one. In the meantime, though, all nine seasons of Scrubs are available to Hulu subscribers, which should keep fans occupied until the next reunion.

In April 2022, The CW cancelled Legends of Tomorrow, which was especially unfortunate considering Season 7 ended on a cliffhanger, making it one of the many good TV shows that didn’t last long enough to finish the story. But another reason the Arrowverse series’ final episode was notable was because it guest-starred Donald Faison as Booster Gold, and had Season 8 happened, the plan was to bring him back. Not only that, it turns out his Scrubs co-star Zach Braff was being considered for a major role alongside him.

Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Keto Shimizu stopped by The Showrunner Whisperer podcast to talk about her time on working on the series, including how she reacted upon learning that the series had been abruptly ended. When host Andy Behbakht inquired about if she and the rest of the creative team considered having Braff play “someone close to Booster,” she confirmed that was indeed the case, saying:

Shimizu soon clarified she was referring to Skeets, Booster Gold’s floating robotic companion. For those unfamiliar with the character, in the comics, Booster, a.k.a. Michael Jon Carter, hails from the 25th century, and he was originally a star college football player before being busted for losing games on purposes tied to gambling. He then became a night watchman at a museum that had displays of superheroes and supervillains from the present day. With the help of Skeets, a security robot, Michael stole a Time Sphere and various other pieces of technology from the museum, and the two of them traveled back to our time so Michael could achieve fame and fortune as a superhero. Skeets especially comes in handy with providing Booster with historical knowledge stretching between the 20th/21st-25th centuries thanks to the records in his databanks. 

Given how Zach Braff and Donald Faison spent nearly a decade together respectively starring as JD and Turk on Scrubs, not to mention that they’re best friends in real life, casting the former as the voice of Skeets to the latter’s Booster Gold would have been stellar casting. Plus, as Keto Shimizu laid out below, it would have come with an additional benefit for the Legends of Tomorrow production: 

Braff previously told Slashfilm that he’d be game to the Ted Kord version of Blue Beetle, which also would have been fun to see considering that he and Booster Gold are best friends who frequently battle the forces of evil together. But as Shimizu pointed out, it would have been more costly to have Braff on the Legends of Tomorrow set, so having him voice Skeets would have been quite the money-saver, and certainly not a forced one considering how important Skeets is to Booster Gold’s lore.

Alas, with Legends of Tomorrow’s cancellation and the main Arrowverse continuity having concluded, the time of seeing a Donald Faison-played Booster Gold and a Zach Braff-voiced Skeets has passed. The good news, though, is that the upcoming DC TV show Booster Gold is in development for the DC Universe franchise, so we will get to see different live-action versions of these characters in the coming years. Mandy Moore is one of the best 2000s movies queens (if not the best, and yes, I am aging myself). She recently shared a major The Princess Diaries throwback reminding us of that fun gig, not to mention starred in Chasing Liberty and many other great rom-coms in the Y2K era. Now, some of her other early roles have resurfaced, and while they all prove she’s left no stone unturned, there’s one that is especially nostalgic: Her role as Julie Quinn on the brilliantly funny Scrubs. She acted alongside then-boyfriend, Zach Braff, who also starred in what is still considered one of the best tv comedy shows to this day. And what she had to say about working with him is sweet, humble, and just very on-brand for her.

Mandy Moore's medical TV show resume is impressive, having also played in Grey’s Anatomy. On Scrubs, she guest-starred in Season 5 for two episodes ("My Half-Acre" and "Her Story II") as the klutzy love interest to Zach Braff's J.D.  Unfortunately, their relationship didn't on screen last long because J.D. wanted something long-term while Julie didn't.

Even though her time was short on the sitcom, she mentioned in an interview with The A.V. Club that her role in Scrubs holds a special place because it was her first TV show appearance where she got to play a different character, and also work with Zach Braff – but don’t think there was any awkwardness or bad vibes on set. She was all gush as she talked about her time on the show:

Mandy Moore was on Scrubs near the end of her relationship with Braff, whom she dated from 2004 to 2006. Still, she went on to talk about how while she had a great time on the Scrubs set, she has since discovered more about the roles she really wants to pursue versus those that she doesn’t when it comes to sitcoms.

Comedy apparently isn't her strong suit, and she would prefer doing a traditional single-cam sitcom instead of a multi-cam. (Which she said doesn’t really exist anymore for those who want to get really technical). 

Of course, I don’t have to going in-depth to explain the big moves Mandy Moore has made since she starred opposite her then-boyfriend. There's This Is Us and Dr. Death, and even voicing Rapunzel in Disney’s Tangled cast, she’s done it all. Even if she doesn’t ever play a role like Julie Quinn again, just taking the trip down memory lane and learning how much she enjoyed and valued her experience is worth a rewatch of her episodes – and maybe a few more of the best Scrubs episodes after or a total re-binge of the series, who knows?

Even if the movie box office tanked over Super Bowl weekend, you can bet similar assessments won’t be made once the ratings are in for CBS, with the Chiefs and 49ers' overtime match-up going longer than expected, and thus bringing in no doubt massive audience numbers. For those whose love of football is minimal, the biggest draw of Super Bowl LVIII is the ads, where some of the biggest companies in the world spend zillions of dollars and recruit some of the world’ most famous celebs to promote them.

Okay, so for some people, the biggest draw might be Taylor Swift being there in support of boyfriend Travis Kelce, which even got parodied at the Puppy Bowl. Or Usher's halftime spectacular. But we’re talking about ads here, specifically the funniest commercials that aired amidst all the trailers and promos for CBS and Paramount+ shows hitting the 2024 TV schedule. So let's celebrate some of the silliest ads of the year that have aired thus far.

YouTube TV's Sunday Ticket Migration

To kick off the night, the YouTube TV-sponsored Super Bowl LVIII aired a...YouTube TV ad for NFL Sunday Ticket. Nothing subtle about that, and there was also nothing subtle about a bunch of NFL players acting like birds. Pretty sure I could watch a whole David Attenborough nature documentary where the animals were replaced by athletes.

Aubrey Plaza Having A Blast With MTN Dew

In a way that hits the same brain waves as a Droopy cartoon, I never tire of seeing Aubrey Plaza deadpan her way through a sentiment of excitement. That was the driving factor behind this ad, of course, but the best part of obviously the Parks and Recreation reunion between Plaza and Nick Offerman, and while riding dragons in a Game of Thrones-esque spoof. I'd watch that show.

Deadpool 3: Deadpool & Wolverine's Trailer

So I usually limit this round-up of Super Bowl ads to just product ads, without pointing out all the movie and TV trailers, but given all the hype building up to our first official look at Deadpool 3, it almost required a spot here. The full Deadpool & Wolverine trailer is obviously too raunchy for Super Bowl's massive audience base, but power to Ryan Reynolds & Co. for keeping the filth central to the teaser as well.

Michael Cera's Ad Pitch For CeraVe

Michael Cera hocking CeraVe has been a weird pop culture bookmark for a short while now, and this commercial makes it that much more understandable, even if it still seems like more of an April Fool's Day campaign than a Super Bowl ad. I'm still very much into it, though.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Being A Good Neighbor For State Farm

What's more fun that Arnold Schwarzenegger embracing his action star status in another Super Bowl commercial (this time with explosions)? Seeing the actor poke fun at his own accent, particularly the way he says "neighbahhh." And then obviously 1,000 cool points for the Danny DeVito appearance, which has us hoping for that Twins sequel again.

Talkin' Like (Christopher) Walken

There are certain celebrity impressions that a lot of people can do well, and there are some that a lot of people do terribly. Christopher Walken has been subject to the latter for ages, and BMW USA embraced the concept with its impersonation-filled ad, which also brings Usher into the mix for seemingly no reason other than his Super Bowl connection, making that timing reference completely irrelevant later in the year. Still, though.

Suits And Scrubs Stars, Laura Dern And More Audition For T-Mobile

T-Mobile has been nailing it with Super Bowl commercials as of late, with one of the 2023 highlights being John Travolta getting Grease-y with Zack Braff and Donald Faison. The latter two also showed up in the latest ad, alongside a bunch of other excellent celebs such as Suits' Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht, Laura Dern, Bradley and Gloria Cooper, and Jennifer Hudson.

Ben Affleck And The Dunkings

Capitalizing on the viral success of its 2023 ad with Ben Affleck and JLo, Dunkin' apparently dropped a bunch of money to get them back along with some other familiar friends such as Matt Damon and Tom Brady. I don't think the world necessarily needs the Dunkings, but I would listen to their album at least once, if only to hear Damon and Affleck riff on their movie quotes. "How do you like them...donuts? I'm so sorry." Love it.

Messi Kicking It Up A Notch For Michelob Ultra

One kind of football deserves another, right? Something like that. Michelob Ultra brought in one of soccer's biggest stars in Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi for some beachbound balling. It's a good time all in all, but it's the cameos from Dan Marino and Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis that put it in the goal.

Mr. T Pities The Fools Spelling Skechers Wrong

In the way that some people will swear that the Berenstain Bears was spelled differently at some point in time, the shoe brand Skechers has long been misspelled with a T in there. So what better way to address that specific issue than with the all-time great Mr. T. “I pity the fool who bends down to pick up their shoes,” is possibly more repeatable than it deserves to be. But it does deserve to be at least a little bit.

One might think that having Jenna Ortega in a Super Bowl commercial would mean she would be the biggest highlight of the ad, but that’s not the case for Doritos Dinamita chips. This action-packed commercial features a pair of older — or should I say bolder — women named Dina and Mita who will do anything to get to their snack of choice. No matter how many bruises it leaves on MCU star Danny Ramirez’s body. I kinda already hope Dina and Mita get their own movie.

Beyoncé Tries To Break The Internet

Seen in the stands with hubby Jay-Z and others, Beyoncé showed up outside of the stadium for a Verizon commercial in which she attempted to break the internet for Veep vet Tony Hale. It involved the idea of cyborg Bey, as well as a pinkified "Barbey," and I can't help but feel like both of those are going to become a reality before the next Super Bowl. What's more, she made due on her in-ad promise and dropped two new songs and some album news as the Super Bowl was airing.

Jason Momoa Sings A Ditty With Zach Braff And Donald Faison

I gotta give it up to T-Mobile for delivering not just one highlight, but two different ones, during Super Bowl LVIII, and it was a pure delight to see former co-stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison engage Jason Momoa in a tuneful ad that played up not just everyone’s pipes but also some fancy footwork. And the use of a chicken wing as a microphone. But I can’t tell if Momoa’s high note is more shocking than how long Braff’s bare shoulder is on the screen.

When it comes to the best movies of the 1990s, Clueless is definitely up there! It’s not only a hilarious high school comedy with all its quotable lines and fashion moments, it’s a pop culture minefield of the era! While the original cast of Clueless is absolutely perfect, over the years, it's been revealed that numerous big name actors were almost in the classic ’90s movie. From Reese Witherspoon to Gwyneth Paltrow, a lot of massive stars crossed paths with the Beverly Hill-set film before Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd and more were officially cast. 

Next time you watch Clueless, which is currently available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription, you can imagine how these other major actors would have been like as the main cast. Check them out: 

Reese Witherspoon 

Years before Reese Witherspoon starred in iconic movies like Legally Blonde, Election and Cruel Intentions, the actress auditioned “so hard” for Clueless, clearly to play Cher Horowitz. While talking to BuzzFeed, she shared the role that got away. It’s not hard to see her as the leading character, but of course she’s gone on to have a fabulous career without wearing that yellow plaid matching set. At the time, casting director Carrie Frazier recalls Witherspoon was “amazing,” but Alicia Silverstone was ultimately the right Cher. 

Kerry Washington

At the same time Reese Witherspoon shared her audition for Clueless, her Little Fires Everywhere co-star Kerry Washington explained that she tried out for a role in the comedy as well! We can totally see Washington rocking the role of Cher’s best friend Dionne Davenport, but it was, of course, Stacey Dash’s part to win. While realizing their unique connection, Witherspoon and Washington joked they should “recreate” a Clueless scene together. 

Ben Affleck 

Another big name that could have been in the 1995 movie is Ben Affleck! At the time, Affleck was just stepping into the Hollywood scene with roles in School Ties and Dazed and Confused when he was considered for Paul Rudd’s part as Josh. Reportedly, Affleck passed on the role in order to do his first movie with Kevin Smith, Mallrats, as well as Glory Days. But as casting director Carrie Frazier said, per ET, she was “really trying to get” Affeck for the part and was “heartbroken” when it didn’t go to him at first.  

Terrence Howard

Before Donald Faison earned the role of Murray in Clueless, Terrence Howard was reportedly a “top contender” for Dionne’s boyfriend. At the time, Howard was also pretty new to Hollywood, but he’d done guest spots in All My Children, Living Single and Family Matters. While Howard didn’t get the role, he would go on to be part of Mr. Holland’s Opus, which became a part of the 1995 award season conversation. 

Zach Braff 

Speaking of Donald Faison, the actor’s future BFF and Scrubs co-star Zach Braff was also up for Clueless as Josh as well. All we know is that he auditioned for Paul Rudd’s part, but didn’t get it. Braff and Rudd certainly look somewhat alike, and we have to wonder if Faison and Braff passed each other at the casting office years prior to meeting on Scrubs. 

Angelina Jolie 

Carrie Frazier has also revealed in the past that Angelina Jolie was among the actors who auditioned for Cher Horowitz at the time. However, the casting director shared that she felt Jolie was “too knowing” for playing the high schooler and found her to be “exactly the opposite” of what they needed for the role. 1995 would become the year Jolie first starred in a movie, but it was for Hackers instead. 

Jeremy Renner

Another memorable member of the Clueless cast was Breckin Meyer’s Travis Birkenstock, who played the school’s resident stoner/skater kid. According to ABC, the eventual Avengers actor “came down to the finals” to play Travis at the time and was “very funny” in his audition. If he had gotten it, it would have been Renner’s first movie. Instead, 1995’s National Lampoon’s Senior Trip was his first film! 

Keri Russell

Director Amy Heckerling reportedly had her “heart set” on Alicia Silverstone quite early on for Cher Horowitz (per ET), but she was asked to “explore” all the options, so she went ahead and did so. Among the names she has shared that auditioned is Keri Russell, who would of course go on to star in another iconic coming-of-age leading role with Felicity. 

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Another future ‘90s TV icon who auditioned for Clueless just a couple of years before getting her big break leading a show was Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress auditioned as Cher’s nemesis at school Amber, which Elisa Donovan ended up playing. In this case, Gellar was actually offered the role before Donovan, but she had to pass it up due to a role she had at the time on All My Children.  

Seth Green 

Another actor that was reportedly up for Travis Birkenstock along with Jeremy Renner before Breckin Meyer, was the actor’s pal Seth Green. While he didn’t get the part, the actor would star in another iconic ‘90s teen movie in 1998’s Can’t Hardly Wait which starred the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle could have been in Clueless too in Donald Faison’s role of Murray. The director apparently met with the comedian while casting for the part after being a fan of Robin Hood: Men In Tights. However, what allowed Faison to win over him was his more “innocent” appeal. She felt Chappelle was a bit too edgy for the high school role. 

Gwyneth Paltrow 

Lastly, we also know that Gwyneth Paltrow was also in the running for Cher. It sounds like the studio really wanted her to be in the movie after she had been in 1993’s Flesh And Bone. However, the director shared she never actually got to see Paltrow audition. Paltrow would go on to star in Se7en that year!

So many huge actors were considered for Clueless. While it’s fun to imagine these other great talents as these iconic characters, the casting team of the comedy really made some incredible choices. We wouldn’t want it any other way! 

Florence Pugh really is an extremely talented actress whether her memorable frown makes you sad for her characters or you see her kicking ass as Yelena Belova in Black Widow. One important thing to know about the Oscar-nominated actress is she’s a master of accents. Despite her love and skill of dialects, there is one thing that she’s always called out for on set while using them.

At the beginning of her career, Florence Pugh spoke in her natural British dialect including in the sports biofilm that gave her international prominence, Fighting With My Family. Then she showed audiences her mastery of the American accents in movies like Midsommar and Little Women the latter of which resulted in her first Oscar nom. Then there's the Russian accent she does as Yelena in the MCU. While speaking to PopSugar promoting A Good Person, for whom Pugh worked with then-boyfriend Zach Braff, the British actress spoke about one thing she frequently got called out for while using a different dialect.

It’s true that if you’re going to play an everyday American as Florence Pugh did in the Zach Braff drama film, you do want to use vocabulary Americans use. The word “shall” is said in more posh, professional circumstances. But despite those occasional mistakes, I’ve got to say that the Don’t Worry Darling actress slays using the American accent. I never hear her British accent slip up when watching her best movies and TV shows, proving she knows exactly what she’s doing. 

Did you know that Florence Pugh’s American accent was so realistic to fans that they thought her British accent was fake? According to Independent, The Wonder actress spoke on the podcast Off Menu about how fans would troll her online for her “fake” British accent when they would hear her onstage presenting an award. Even when featured in Instagram Stories, the Oxford-born actress would receive comments from fans accusing her of “putting on an accent.” It must have been hilarious for her to correct them that the British accent she naturally uses is actually the one she was born with.

One movie of Florence Pugh’s that we have to look forward to soon is We Live in Time. Co-starring with fellow British actor Andrew Garfield, what we know about this romance movie so far is the plot follows a recent divorcee who meets and falls in love with a chef, only for a “difficult truth” to test their relationship. Nothing has been said if Pugh and Garfield will be using their natural British dialects, but I can only assume so since the Irish director of Brooklyn John Crowley will be behind the camera for this upcoming A24 movie. Plus, behind-the-scenes photos (via X formerly known as Twitter) showed the two actors filming a scene in a park in London. So, maybe that means we have a British romance film on our hands.

Florence Pugh is truly the master of accents. She just needs to watch herself when it comes to using British phrases you wouldn’t normally hear coming out of an American character’s mouth. Keep an eye out for We Live in Time with a possible premiere date making its way toward the 2024 movie schedule.

To call Morgan Freeman a legend when it comes to acting would be an understatement. Freeman's best movies -- such as The Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy and Million Dollar Baby -- have more than proven that he's one of the greatest performers of all time. But his esteemed reputation didn’t stop his A Good Person director, Zach Braff, from asking him to do multiple takes. And as it turns out, the Oscar winner had a hilarious response to being asked.

It's true that whether Morgan Freeman is playing a world leader or lending his triumphant voice to the narration of his documentaries, he comes off as being relatively flawless. However, it doesn’t mean he won't be asked to perform multiple takes during a given production. Zach Braff spoke to our own ReelBlend podcast about what it was like directing Freeman on A Good Person. It would seem that the two creatives forged a strong relationship, which is why Braff could only chuckle after revealed Freeman's one-word response to doing more than one take:

I mean, guess the 85-year-old star felt he nailed it right the first time? In his defense, he has been doing this for over 50 years and would likely know when something feels good. Not to mention, he’s tried his hand at directing too, courtesy of the 1993 political drama Bopha! and three episodes of Madam Secretary. Still, you can't fault his director for wanting to have different options when he eventually gets into the editing process.

Zach Braff made his directorial debut with his indie project The Garden State and has worked with a number of great talents in front of and behind the camera. During the interview, he spoke more about his favorite part of working with such esteemed actors in a directorial capacity:

As suggested by his comments, asking someone to do multiple takes is absolutely not a way of critiquing their acting. It’s more about collaborating with an actor, sharing your point of view and how you see the scene working. Clearly things worked out in the case of Morgan Freeman. In A Good Person, Freeman plays a father, who forms a bond with his would-be-daughter-in-law (Florence Pugh) years after his son's death. 

Zach Braff was fortunate enough to get to see the Bruce Almighty actor shoot scenes at his hometown high school, as the Scrubs alum always tries to give his films a personal touch. If I saw my favorite high-profile actor roaming around my alma mater, I’d probably be excited myself. It may still sound somewhat weird that Zach Braff asked Morgan Freeman to do multiple takes, but surely it was all for the betterment of their movie. Brendan Fraser’s recent jog through the Academy Awards marathon turned into a love fest for the endearing movie star, and the work he had accomplished over the years. As much as his Best Actor Oscar win was earned by his performance in The Whale, it also served as a career retrospective… as the Oscars often are for actors who’ve been around and kicking for awhile. You’d think that the “Brenaissance,” as the celebration became known, might die down after the ceremony, but there are still plenty of people ready and willing to sing Fraser’s praises. And the latest is Scrubs star Zach Braff, who directed the new film A Good Person.  

Scrubs lasted nine seasons, and followed Zach Braff’s surgeon in training through his emotional and comedic years at Sacred Heart hospital. Brendan Fraser appeared in three episodes of the show, playing the brother of Jordan (Christa Miller) and best friend of Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley). His arc concluded in the Season 3 episode “My Screw Up,” which I’ll dig into following the quote (because of possible spoilers). It might not be the best episode of Scrubs, but it does feature an impossibly charming performance by the effervescent Fraser. 

While appearing on the ReelBlend podcast to promote A Good Person, Zach Braff opened up about working with recent Oscar winner Brendan Fraser, and gushed:

Basically, thanks to The Whale and Scrubs, if Brendan Fraser dies on screen in your movie or television show, audiences are going to love it. If you made it this far into the article, then you know that Fraser’s endearing character, Ben, dies of leukemia, a fact that devastates Dr. Cox. The overly confident surgeon blames Braff’s character, J.D., and then devolves into a pit of alcohol and self-pity. It allows the snarky John C. McGinley to remind Scrubs audiences of what a terrific dramatic actor he could be. It definitely belongs on the list of the all-time best Scrubs episodes.

Zach Braff has a strong connection to his hometown of South Orange, New Jersey. The actor/writer/director made his directorial debut with a feature set and shot there (2004’s Garden State), and nearly 20 years later he’s made his second homecoming with his latest film, A Good Person. This time around, he brought the legendary, Oscar-winning talents of Morgan Freeman with him, and he shot scenes in some memory-filled places from his childhood – including the local park’s duck pond and the principal’s office in his alma mater high school.

I can personally relate to Braff’s hometown love because I grew up in South Orange’s sister town and graduated from the same high school. Watching the film, it’s wild to see Morgan Freeman in places I remember from growing up, and I told the filmmaker as much when I interviewed him last week during the virtual press day for A Good Person. I asked about the experience of shooting scenes with Freeman in his hometown and the reaction of locals to the beloved star, and Braff said,

In A Good Person, Morgan Freeman plays Daniel, a former cop and recovering alcoholic who reconnects with his former daughter-in-law to be, star Florence Pugh’s Allison, when she shows up at one of his support group meetings. Their relationship is strained because she was in a car accident that killed Daniel’s daughter and son-in-law (she was driving and they were passengers). In the months that followed, she broke off her relationship with Daniel’s son and became addicted to opioids. The drama centers on their respective attempts to deal with the consequences of the life-shattering event.

As noted by the director, A Good Person was shot on location in his hometown, and Zach Braff says that choice was an extension of his vision as a creative. A common piece of advice shared among writers is to “write what you know,” and what Braff knows is South Orange, New Jersey. He explained,

A Good Person is Zach Braff’s heaviest and most dramatic directorial effort to date, and in the challenge of taking it on, his connection to the location was his support system. He continued:

It’s somewhat hard to believe that it's been 13 years since the highly rewatchable medical series Scrubs came to an end. Though we're over a decade removed from that final installment, the show remains a favorite among fans -- including myself -- and has even enticed newcomers. Naturally, many would like to see a continuation of sorts. With reboots and reunions on the rise in the TV sphere, it’s hard not to wonder if the beloved comedy could get that treatment. Well, according to creator Bill Lawrence, it’s really only a matter of time.

The workplace comedy ran for a total of nine seasons, with the show airing the first seven on NBC before it was canceled. The show was ultimately saved, however, when ABC opted to pick it up. While the Scrubs cast have been plenty busy since the series ended, every once in a while, they do either hang out or, better yet, reunite for fun projects. For instance, a recent Super Bowl commercial featuring John Travolta saw series alums (and real-life good friends) Zach Braff and Donald Faison team up. Bill Lawrence spoke to the closeness of the cast during an interview with Variety and joked about how that would relate to a potential reunion:

Since the program is still so popular and the stars are all obviously still close, it honestly does feel like a follow-up of sorts would naturally came to fruition at some point. These sentiments from the EP are sure to provide longtime fans with some sense of comfort and maybe even excitement. However, this proposed production is still far from a sure thing. That doesn't seem to be stopping Bill Lawrence from keeping hope alive, though:

If a Scrubs reunion does happen, it could get the Friends reunion treatment and feature exclusive interviews and fun show-related games. But it's likely that most would probably prefer a movie of sorts or even an additional season. Should something happen, I’m sure whatever the producers come up with will be worthy of the lovable crew at Sacred Heart.

In 2018, Zach Braff posted a reunion photo with his former cast members, which had fans hoping for a Season 10 even then. At the time, Bill Lawrence shared his hopes for a chance to revive the sitcom, if for anything, just to be able to catch up with the characters. It sure would be nice to see them again, and one can only hope that a revival of sorts come to pass.

Whether or not you’re interested in the actual football game once the Super Bowl rolls around, most people are at least excited about tuning in for the commercials. Companies pony up lots of cash for a coveted ad slot, and Super Bowl LVII’s funniest commercials pulled out all the stops to grab fans’ attention. T-Mobile nailed the trifecta of celebrities, humor and nostalgia to push its 5G home Internet service, pairing John Travolta with Scrubs stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison for a spoof of the Grease hit “Summer Nights,” and Travolta opened up about what made him say yes to the project.

John Travolta went full Danny Zuko for T-Mobile’s Super Bowl ad, singing the popular song from the 1978 musical alongside the Fake Doctors, Real Friends podcast hosts. Rather than staying out till 10 o’clock and making out under the dock, Zach Braff and Donald Faison sang about only needing one cord to be able to stream movies, as Travolta popped the collar of his black jacket and asked them to “Tell me more, tell me more.” The Grease star said he enjoyed the good-natured throwback to the movie, telling Variety: 

I’m as surprised as John Travolta is about the lack of Grease spoofs, but he hits it on the head by pointing out that the ad stays in line with the movie’s nonsensical humor, because there are plenty of things that don’t make sense about Grease. 

There was just something special about how well the Pulp Fiction actor fit in with the Scrubs stars, and John Travolta really seemed to enjoy the bond they seemed to have. He continued: 

Might we see these three team up again for the 2024 Super Bowl? Zach Braff and Donald Faison were also featured in a T-Mobile ad during Super Bowl LVI last year, singing “I Feel Pretty,” so it certainly seems possible that John Travolta could join the fun again. Other highlights from Super Bowl LVII included another fantastic nostalgia grab, as Alicia Silverstone reprised her classic character Cher from Clueless alongside Elisa Donovan’s Amber for Rakuten. Maya Rudolph tried to ruin M&Ms (sorry, Ma&Ya’s candy-coated clam bites), and we can’t forget about Rihanna giving history’s most epic pregnancy announcement, with her reps confirming just minutes after her halftime performance that she is expecting her second child.

Those wanting to relive the non-spoofed music of Grease can stream the movie with a Netflix subscription or Paramount+ subscription. All nine seasons of Scrubs, meanwhile, are available to Hulu subscription holders. 

Although it’s been 45 years since John Travolta first showed off his Danny Zuko moves in Grease, he’s still got it all this time later. The 68-year-old actor proves it during one of 2023’s Super Bowl ads which includes him singing a new rendition of “Summer Nights” alongside Scrubs’ Zach Braff and Donald Faison, because why not? 

In a big-budget commercial for T-Mobile’s 5G home internet service, John Travolta references Grease in a big way by singing one of its classic songs. However, he’s not talking about a summer fling this time around. Check it: 

The commercial has John Travolta ranting about how much of a pain it can be to set up home internet when moving into a new home to the tune of "Summer Nights" before real-life best friend duo Zach Braff and Donald Faison jump in to tell him about the T-Mobile service. It’s an unlikely trio, but they are all so lovable the mashup somehow works. Plus, it’s really nostalgic to see a present-day Travolta singing “Summer Nights.” 

Travolta recreates iconic moves from the 1978 movie throughout the minute-long commercial before hitting the high note in the song and putting his hand up just as he did during the high-school set musical. The commercial joins other early drops of Super Bowl ads this year, such as one with Top Gun: Maverick’s Miles Teller dancing with his dog for Bud Light and Anna Faris going nearly nude for an avocado commercial. 

It’s no secret Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest day of the year for advertising, and companies always spend the big bucks on their ads, often enlisting big celebrities to appear. John Travolta going full Grease for this Super Bowl ad feels like a classic move, and it will surely get people talking about his classic movie. While this is fun to see ahead of the game, we’re certainly curious why companies have been soft launching their ads ahead of the big night, because now having seen the ad, we won’t be as surprised when Travolta sings on the commercial break. 

Across the 45 years Grease has been a famous movie, not everyone gets the hype, but you can’t ignore how iconic John Travolta’s Danny Zuko still is. And, perhaps if it wasn’t for Olivia Newton-John tragically passing in August after a battle with metastatic breast cancer, Danny and Sandy could have reunited for a commercial and Grease tribute. 

You can catch the commercial during Super Bowl LVII, airing on Fox this Sunday, February 12 from Glendale, Arizona where the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will play against one another and Rihanna will perform at the halftime show. Chris Stapleton is set to sing the national anthem, and there will surely be so many more big commercials worth seeing between the game. 

The last time that Zach Braff sat in the director’s chair was directing Morgan Freeman in Going in Style. One of his best movies was when he made his directorial debut in Garden State co-starring with Natalie Portman. His latest indie flick will continue his track record of working with incredible actors as he reunites with Freeman and works with Florence Pugh for the first time, who was also his girlfriend at the time. Despite the two of them breaking up earlier this year, Braff has nothing but kind words to say about her performance in his movie A Good Person. 

Florence Pugh has been impressing critics in just about every performance she’s been in lately, starring in movies like Lady Macbeth, Midsommar, Little Women, and Don’t Worry Darling. Her next role will be in the Zach Braff-directed feature A Good Person about a woman who attempts to put her life back together after surviving a car accident that kills her fiancé and would-be sister-in-law. This project was done while Braff and Pugh were still together. The two dated from 2019 to 2022, and they sadly broke up quietly at the beginning of the year, but the Scrubs actor still expressed his favorite part of working with Pugh to EW, saying:

Isn’t that the sweetest thing? It’s nice to know there’s no conflict between them. A Good Person ended up being a very personal project for Zach Braff. He’s dealt with grief through the death of his father, sister, and two friends of his where one died of COVID. But, he didn’t want this film to have a thoroughly depressing tone as he was inspired by seeing those struggling with grief being able to stand back up. We can all use lessons on how to overcome the inevitable tragedies that life brings us. Plus, playing a lead role in the hospital comedy Scrubs for nine years shows that Braff has a knack for comedy.

Zach Braff and Florence Pugh first dated in 2019 when they worked together on his short film In the Time It Takes to Get There. However, because there was a 21-year age gap between the two, their relationship was not without backlash with Pugh being bullied on social media over it. She made good points about the public not deserving a say in who she gets to date. Especially when she was in her early 20s dating an older man with whom she felt a connection. 

There was speculation early this year that the two may have hit a snag in their relationship when they went solo to different red-carpet premieres. Then it was confirmed later that Braff and the British actress went their separate ways. But, these two seem to be in a good place with each other now as they still interact sweetly on Instagram. 

The Wish I Was Here director/actor had more kind words to say about Pugh’s awestruck performance, explaining: 

That’s why it’s always good for two exes to end on good terms as you always want them to still be able to say good things about you. I'm sure Florence Pugh really does give a flawless performance in A Good Person as her director says, because she's such a great actress, and has so many incredible films. Being a celebrity can be a tricky thing. While it might provide money and awesome opportunities, fame also had its downsides. Namely the way it can make one’s personal life into a very public matter. This is something that Don’t Worry Darling actress Florence Pugh likely knows all too well, considering how much discourse surrounded her previous relationship with Zach Braff. And the two celebs recently shared sweet messages on Instagram, despite their break-up.

The organization helps to build specialty homes for veterans who are disabled. How cute is that? While plenty of messy celebrity break-ups have happened before our eyes, it seems like Florence Pugh and Zach Braff are in a relatively good place. If only the rest of us could get along with our exes in such an admirable way. 

The comment from Florence Pugh prompted a response from her ex Zach Braff. In the midst of responses from fans who were freaking out over their online interaction, the Scrubs alum offered another chapter in this back and forth, posting:

Both of these comments have gotten a ton of likes on Instagram, some of which come from fans who are hoping that the former celebrity couple gets back together. Their sweet interaction shows that there is such a good thing as an amicable break-up, or as Gwyenth Paltrow might call it “conscious uncoupling.”

Still, these encouraging comments on Zach Braff’s Instagram stand in stark juxtaposition to the chatter about the former couple while they were still together. They got a ton of hate due to their 21-year age difference, with Florence Pugh even defending herself online. Indeed, the Oscar nominated actress has been the subject of backlash about various aspects of her personal life, including the way she dresses. Plus there were rumors about a feud with Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde.

Warning: SPOILERS for Obi-Wan Kenobi “Part III” are ahead!

The live-action Star Wars TV shows have made a habit of bringing in big-name actors to play minor characters. For example, The Mandalorian Season 2 premiere featured John Leguizamo as the voice of Gor Koresh, and on The Book of Boba Fett, we got to see folks like Stephen Root and Danny Trejo in a galaxy far, far away. For the latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi,  Zach Braff voiced an alien the title character crossed paths with, and the actor has shared some behind-the-scenes pictures of his time on the Star Wars series proving he’s no scrub… see, because he played JD on Scrubs… never mind.

While on Mapuzo in “Part III,” Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Vivien Lyra Blair’s Leia Organa ran into an alien named Freck, who was an Imperial transport driver who agreed to give the two a lift. In addition to voicing Freck, Zach Braff’s facial movements were also captured, and the actor provided some peeks on Instagram of what his time on Obi-Wan Kenobi was like:

Considering how big a Star Wars fan Zach Braff is, getting to appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi must have been a blast for him. And he’s not the only main Scrubs actor who’s lent their talents to the Star Wars franchise. Donald Faison, who’s Braff’s real-life best friend and co-host of the Fake Doctors, Real Friends podcast, voiced Hype Fazon in Star Wars Resistance and a tactical droid in a Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 episode, as well as starred in all three of Robot Chicken’s Star Wars specials.

What was a huge opportunity for Zach Braff resulted in a stroke of bad luck for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Although Freck presented a pleasant demeanor to the Jedi Master and the young girl, he was actually taking them to be inspected at an Imperial outpost, and it was only thanks to the intervention of Indira Varma’s Tala, an Imperial officer secretly helping the planet’s underground network, that they weren’t taken into custody by the stormtroopers. Obi-Wan knocked Freck unconscious during the skirmish, so perhaps there will come a day where Braff can reprise the character, whether it’s in live-action again or in an animated TV series.

Now that “Part III” has been released to Disney+ subscribers, we’re already at the halfway point with Obi-Wan Kenobi. This latest episode also brought Darth Vader fully back into play, with Hayden Christensen physically portraying the character and James Earl Jones voicing him (with some aid from Respeecher). 10 years after their duel on Mustafar, Obi-Wan and Vader crossed paths again, and since Obi-Wan’s rusty with the Force at this point in his life, Vader quickly overpowered him. Luckily Tala came to Obi-Wan’s aid yet again, but having been set on fire (seriously), he’s in a rough spot right now.

Florence Pugh has had a quick rise to fame following her 2019 breakout role in Midsommar, which has led her to become a Marvel star and reportedly one of Dune Part Two’s latest additions. Unfortunately, being in front of the spotlight has led to Pugh facing the internet's wrath regarding her dating life, again. The actress’ “blissful” Ibiza vacation was disrupted by rumors she has split with her boyfriend of three years, Zach Braff, because she is enjoying time with Midsommar co-star Will Poulter overseas, which she attended with other friends, also of the male variety. 

After photos of Florence Pugh at the beach alongside a group of friends, including Will Poulter, Archie Madekwe, Harris Reed and Chet Lo, among others, the internet began to speculate that Pugh perhaps ended things with Braff for Poulter. Pugh took to her Instagram stories to set things straight, penning this: 

Alongside the note, Florence Pugh went on to point out a number of paparazzi photos that surfaced online that were not depicting her vacation in a factual light. Many of the images apparently cropped out the other friends she was with while next to Will Poulter, making it look as if she was on a private vacation with him. She cleared things up with a few images, including this one of her Midsommar co-stars: 

Florence Pugh also pointed out that while the paparazzi was snapping photos of them, she was snuggling with one of her best friends Olive, and her “nipple kept popping out.” Yet, the photographers didn’t catch that. Pugh claimed the paparazzi was “hiding behind some poor family, waiting for the optimum time of ‘let’s make a fake relationship happen.'" 

After the photos hit the internet, one viral comment on Twitter said they would “support” Florence Pugh and Will Poulter dating because he is “better than that expired man,” referencing 47-year-old Zach Braff, whilst another user called her longtime boyfriend a “senior citizen.” Many of those people likely didn’t think Pugh could see their comments, but she clearly did and called out the gossipers to put a stop to the bullying of the Scrubs actor and rumors about Poulter. 

Florence Pugh and Zach Braff have long been bullied for being in a relationship with a 21-year age difference. Back in 2020, Pugh also made a point to address negative comments about their relationship, saying she was “upset” to see commenters “hurling abuse” at them, politely asking people to not tell her who she should or should not love as it is not their place. While addressing rumors about Will Poulter on Tuesday, Pugh also said:

Although Florence Pugh did not mention Zach Braff specifically, just last month she posted a cute photo alongside Braff on her social media, wishing him a happy birthday and calling him a “beautiful human being” who she is lucky to witness his “incredible talent.” Now that Pugh has indeed addressed the rumors amidst her vacation, let’s focus back on her upcoming movies, including the very exciting and creepy Don’t Worry Darling alongside Harry Styles and Chris Pine, which hits theaters on September 23.  

Whether he’s lost in some extravagant daydream, searching through “the infinite abyss,” or playing small yet unforgettable characters on a variety of sitcoms, Zach Braff has long been one of the most interesting and charming faces on the silver screen and small screen. Each time he steps into the frame, you can’t help but be carried away by his charm, comedic timing, and earnestness, which almost always makes for a fun experience.

And, with the former Scrubs cast member being a major part of the Cheaper by the Dozen cast, I started to think about the best Zach Braff movies and TV shows that I would like to revisit. In doing so, I found out that quite a few of them are streaming and thought to myself that others would be looking for the same, so I made this little list.

Scrubs (2001 - 2010)

Over the course of nine seasons, 182 episodes, and two networks, Zach Braff portrayed young doctor John “J.D.” Dorian at Sacred Heart Hospital on the critically acclaimed medical comedy, Scrubs. Throughout his run on the show (a run that turned him into a massive star), Braff’s character went from an awkward resident starting his career to a dependable mentor by the time things wrapped up, bringing laughs, tears, and loads of inside jokes along the way.

No matter what Braff does with his career from here on out, Scrubs will always be one of the shows for which he’s most remembered. One of Bill Lawrence’s best creations, this iconic early 2000s series wasn’t afraid to try new things, incorporate multiple genres, and give the cast room to breathe, creating some of TV’s best moments along the way.

Garden State (2004)

Following the sudden death of his mother, struggling actor Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) returns to his New Jersey hometown for the funeral. But, what starts out as a quick trip home to honor his mother’s life quickly turns into an existential exploration of “the infinite abyss,” an odyssey that sees the despondent and heavily-medicated prodigal son cross paths an eccentric young woman named Samantha (Natalie Portman), who forever changes his life.

In addition to starring in Garden State, Zach Braff also wrote and directed this 2004 comedy-drama, and quickly made a name for himself as one of the most interesting young filmmakers in Hollywood. And, it doesn’t hurt that the movie has one of the best soundtracks in recent memory, which was hand-picked by Braff himself.

Wish I Was Here (2014)

Aidan Bloom (Zach Braff) is forced to pull his children out of an expensive private school after his father, who pays for their schooling, is diagnosed with cancer and decides to spend the last of his money on a revolutionary treatment. Instead of finding a new school, however, Aidan decides to homeschool his daughter and son by following a rather unorthodox curriculum that involves camping, swimming, and San Diego Comic-Con.

Zach Braff’s character in the Kickstarter-funded Wish I Was Here is one of the most endearing of his career and goes through a tremendous change by the time the movie ends. The way Braff, who also co-wrote and directed the 2014 comedy, portrays a father forced to sacrifice his own desires for those of his children makes for a great study of parenthood and being an adult in general.

Chicken Little (2005)

After claiming the sky is falling and the end is near, Chicken Little (Zach Braff) is viewed upon as the “boy who cried wolf” and untrustworthy for getting his town all worked up in a state of panic. But, when it happens a second time, things are worse than they appear, and only the small, outcast chicken can save the day from arriving extraterrestrial invaders.

Based on the classic European folk tale of the same name, the 2005 animated film, Chicken Little, captures the heart and soul of the source material while also transitioning it into modernity. All of the actors are amazing in their respective roles throughout the movie, but none compare to the kind nature of the underdog Chicken Little, who is made all the more likable thanks to Zach Braff’s understanding of the role.

The Ex (2006)

On the eve of becoming a father, Tom Reilly (Zach Braff) takes a job at his father-in-law’s advertising agency where he soon strikes up a bitter rivalry with his wife’s ex-boyfriend, Chip Sanders (Jason Bateman), who uses his brain and paraplegic state against him.

Probably one of the funniest movies of 2006, The Ex is held together by the on-screen chemistry of Zach Braff and Jason Bateman, who do such an amazing job of portraying two bitter rivals that you believe they actually hate one another. The constant back-and-forth between the two as they jockey for position is incredible and really increases the drama and comedy.

The Last Kiss (2006)

Michael (Zach Braff) seems to have everything going for him in life: he has a loving girlfriend who is pregnant with their first child, a well-paying job, and a group of close friends. Despite that, the soon-to-be 30-year-old feels trapped and nothing like the free young man he used to be. When he meets a young college student named Kim (Rachel Bilson) at a wedding, Michael sees a quick escape, but his new fling could bring his life crashing down.

Tony Goldwyn’s 2006 romantic drama The Last Kiss (a remake of the Italian film L’Ultimo Bacio) shows a Zach Braff character who is far different from anything he had played before. Sure, his characters have always been a bit complicated and introspective, but his portrayal of Michael in his fall from grace is truly something else. It’s strange, because you are forced to decide whether or not you like the character or despise him for his actions, and mistakes, in life.

Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)

When one of their neighbors suddenly dies, Larry Lipton (Woody Allen) and his wife Carol (Diane Keaton) find themselves so intrigued by the mystery they begin investigating the matter on their own, no matter what they might encounter on their curious journey into the unknown.

Although Zach Braff only appears briefly in Manhattan Murder Mystery as Larry and Carol’s son, Nick Lipton, it’s a performance that should be brought up at every opportunity. This is mostly due to the fact that this Braff’s feature film debut (he had appeared on an episode of The Baby-Sitters Club at this point), which automatically makes it more intriguing.

BoJack Horseman (2017, 2020)

One of the best Netflix original series, the animated adult comedy, BoJack Horseman, centers on the titular washed-up actor (Will Arnett) as he struggles to find meaning in life now that he’s no longer the star of the popular Horsin’ Around sitcom. Over the course of six seasons, the walking, talking, anthropomorphic horse deals with depression, fame, and what it means to be successful in Hollywood.

There were a ton of great celebrity cameos throughout BoJack Horseman’s run on Netflix, including an appearance by Weird Al Yankovic at one point. Well, you can add Zach Braff to the list of famous actors who popped up on the show on two occasions, first at a Season 4 party where he caught on fire and was killed by Jessica Biel and then again in the final season in one of BoJack’s dreams. The best part about his appearances was the way Braff parodied himself, especially with his comments about monologues.

Arrested Development (2005 - 2006)

One of the funniest shows of the 21st Century, Arrested Development followed the lives and exploits of the Bluth family. Over the course of five seasons (the first three on Fox, the later two as a Netflix revival), the family, to the chagrin of Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), found themselves in one ridiculous situation after another in the wake of the family patriarch, George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), going to prison.

In addition to the large Bluth family, Arrested Development also featured an even more expansive cast of supporting characters like Zach Braff’s Phillip Litt, an unsavory filmmaker behind the exploitative Girls with Low Self-Esteem video series. This character is completely over-the-top and nothing like anything else Braff had done up to that point or since. Clearly a parody of Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis, Braff appears to be having a lot of fun with the portrayal.

The High Cost Of Living (2010)

When a hit-and-run accident results in the death of her unborn child, Nathalie (Isabelle Blais) falls into a downward spiral of depression and lost hope. That all changes when she meets an equally flawed man named Henry (Zach Braff), who’s own decisions in life have left him in a situation just as dark and dreadful. Together, they form a strong bond that is put to its ultimate test with a devastating revelation.

Before Deborah Chow went on to direct the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, she cut her teeth with intimate indie projects like 2010’s The High Cost of Living. Far more toned-down from Braff’s work on Scrubs, this small project really gives him a lot of room to try out a different character, one far less upbeat than J.D., and it works really well.

Zach Braff has played a variety of roles over the course of his career, from a struggling actor processing the passing of his mother to an animated young fowl who claims the sky is falling. But in Disney+’s Cheaper by the Dozen adaptation, he takes on a different kind of part: a father to nearly a dozen rambunctious kids. The actor seemed more than game to take on the comedic part, though he’s also aware that in doing so, some may still tend to associate him with his fan-favorite role as J.D. on Scrubs. With this, the performer sought to differentiate his new character from his former one in a key way. 

In Cheaper by the Dozen, Zach Braff (who recently killed it on the red carpet during the film’s premiere) takes on the role of Paul, the kind, awkward, and well-meaning patriarch of the Baker family. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Braff about his work on the film and asked him about developing the character alongside screenwriters Kenya Barris and Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry. When the actor responded, he noted that one of his biggest goals was to play the role in a less silly manner compared to his work on Scrubs:

The quirky John Michael "J.D." Dorian, who was inspired by a real medical professional, is arguably one of the most recognizable characters in the history of television. So it had to be challenging for the actor to craft a role that differs from that past work. Overall, he managed to succeed in that regard. While there are similarities between the doctor and doting dad, the latter mostly serves as the straight man to his family’s antics. 

However, one key similarity between Paul and J.D. is that they do their fair share of narration within their respective productions. Though I’d argue that the former’s sentiments aren’t nearly as quirky or surreal as the inner monologues the latter shared over the course of nine seasons. 

Cheaper by the Dozen does mark new territory for Zach Braff, who isn’t widely known for doing kid-friendly fare. The same is true for his on-screen wife, Gabrielle Union, who also admitted to us that she took on the role of Zoe Baker because she saw “zero diversity” in family films while growing up. Both commit to their respective roles and set the tone for the other actors.

Though Zach Braff’s days on Scrubs are now over, fans can certainly take heart in knowing that he’s still delivering comedic material, albeit in a different way. Plus, those adult fans who enjoyed the medical comedy can now introduce their kids to the actor through his latest feature.

Well, look no further, because we have a list of all the stars and where you’ve seen them before…

Gabrielle Union (Zoey Baker)

Gabrielle Union takes on the role of Zoey Baker, one of the two parents at the center of the massive Cheaper By The Dozen ensemble cast. For well over a quarter-century now, Union has appeared in dozens of iconic film and TV roles that include both remembered classics and forgotten gems.

Whether she was appearing in Bad Boys II (which got its own spinoff series years after the fact) or giving career-making performances in Bring It On, or even doing modern-day William Shakespeare adaptations like 10 Things I Hate About You, there’s a chance you’ve seen Union on more than one occasion throughout her career. And, let’s not forget her work on the small screen, which includes 7th Heaven, Being Mary Jane, and The Lion Guard.

Zach Braff (Paul Baker)

Stepping in as Paul, the second parent in the gigantic extended Baker family, is Zach Braff, who has remained a fixture of film and TV since getting his break with the long-running medical comedy series, Scrubs 20, years ago.

Outside of providing some stellar moments as J.D. in the best Scrubs episodes, Braff has brought his unique style of humor and sensibility to movies like Garden State (which he also wrote and directed), the 2005 adaptation of the Chicken Little books, The Last Kiss, Wish I Was Here, and the ABC sitcom Alex, Inc. Braff’s director-only projects include Going in Style, an episode of Ted Lasso, and Solos. Braff also directed The Comeback Trail, a crime comedy starring Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, and Morgan Freeman that was slated for release in 2020 but has been pushed back multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Journee Brown (Deja)

Stepping in as Deja, one of the 12 Baker kids in the new and improved Cheaper by the Dozen, is Journee Brown.

Including Cheaper by the Dozen, Brown only has three credits to her name so far in her young career, including Jordana Spiro’s 2018 drama, Night Comes On, and two episodes of the popular Netflix series Orange is the New Black, on which she portrayed a younger version of Vicky Jeudy’s character, Janae Watson.

Kylie Rogers (Ella)

Kylie Rogers shows up in the Cheaper by the Dozen cast as Ella Baker, one of the older kids in the crowded yet fun-loving home. 

Throughout her career, which goes back to a brief appearance on the long-running soap opera series, Days of Our Lives back, in 2012, Rogers has split her time between the small screen and the silver screen for several dozen performances. Her TV work includes one-off roles on shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Chicago P.D., and Yellowstone (she played the younger version of Beth Dutton in the show’s first season). Major TV roles include Home Before Dark and The Whispers. 

Over the years, Rogers has landed roles in movies like Skin, Collateral Beauty, Space Station 762, and Mojave to name only a few. She is next set to appear in Ari Aster’s upcoming comedy horror movie Disappointed Blvd. alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, and numerous others, according to Deadline.

Aryan Simhadri (Haresh)

Taking on the role of Haresh in Cheaper by the Dozen is Aryan Simhadri, who has started to build up an impressive list of credits since making his acting debut on How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life), in 2013.

Since then, Simhadri has shown up on shows like Will & Grace, Teachers, The Unicorn, Just Roll with It, and Adventures in Wonder Park, as well as a list of film productions that includes Spin, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and The Main Event.

Leo A. Perry (Luca)

Although one of the least-experiences members of the Cheaper by the Dozen cast, Leo A. Perry, who plays Luca, probably won’t be in that category much longer.

Outside of the new Disney+ streaming exclusive, Perry has appeared on an episode of black-ish as well as The Big Leap, which was his first role back in 2021.

Mykal-Michelle Harris (Luna)

Despite being one of the youngest members of the Cheaper by the Dozen cast, Mykal-Michelle Harris, who takes on the role of Luna, is actually one of the faces in the Disney+ movie with the most credits to her name, astoundingly enough.

Whether it is through her role of Santamonica Johnson on mixed-ish, Madeline on The Affair, or the younger version of Bonnie on Big Little Lies (fingers crossed for a third season of the popular HBO show), or even that of Alice Baxter on the Disney Channel original series, Raven’s Home, there’s a good chance you recognize Harris. Her other performances, which go back to 2016, include The Gospel, The Karma Club, A Kid Called Mayonnaise, and several other movies, shows, and short films.

Christian Cote And Sebastian Cote (Bailey And Bronx)

Taking on the roles of Bailey and Bronx in Disney's latest film adaptation of Cheaper by the Dozen are relative newcomers Christian and Sebastian Cote, whose careers only just got started in 2020 with a small role as George Keller (they both stepped in for the role) on the Hulu original horror drama series, Monsterland, which also featured performances from the likes of Kaitlyn Dever, Taylor Schilling, and Bill Camp, to name just a few of the many stars on the show that saw seemingly everyday people interacting with fallen angels, werewolves, and mythic beasts.

Andre Robinson (DJ)

Taking on the role of DJ, one of Zoey and Paul Baker’s many children, in the Cheaper by the Dozen cast is Andre Robinson, who has been all over the place since providing voice-work for the 2013 video game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. 

Since then, Robinson has either appeared in or provided his voice for roles in movies like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Ron’s Gon Wrong (which is streaming on Disney+ and HBO Max), The Hurricane Heist, Ferdinand, The Dark Tower, 12 Years a Slave, and Despicable Me 2. His TV work includes The Loud House, Dragons Rescue Riders: Heroes of the Sky, Summer Camp Island, A Tale Dark & Grimm, American Dad, Family Guy, and New Girl, to name just a small portion of his work. 

Caylee Blosenski (Harley)

Caylee Blosenski shows up in the Disney+ streaming movie Cheaper by the Dozen as Harley, one of the 12 kids living under Zoey and Paul’s crowded roof. This is the first film role for the young actress, but Blosenski did take on the role of Marty Cavanaugh in the 2021 scripted podcast documentary series, Last Known Position, which followed a group of experts as they attempted to trace and recover a plane that mysteriously vanished in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. 

Luke Prael (Seth)

Taking on the role of Seth in Cheaper by the Dozen is up-and-coming actor Luke Prael, who has a handful of roles to his name since making his debut several years ago.

It all started for Prael with the 2016 short drama film, Boy in a Backpack, which he followed up with an appearance in Boarding School. Outside of Cheaper by the Dozen, Prael’s biggest movie to date is Bo Burnham’s 2018 coming-of-age comedy, Eighth Grade, in which he played Aiden.

Erika Christensen (Kate) 

Erika Christensen shows up in Cheaper by the Dozen as Kate, who is seen in the movie’s trailer not being all that observant when babysitting the Baker kids while Zoey and Paul are out of the house.

Christensen’s career goes back to the 1997 film adaptation of classic sitcom series Leave it to Beaver. Following a string of TV appearances on shows like The Practice, Frasier, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and Touched by an Angel, Christensen landed one of her most prominent roles to date as Caroline Wakefield in Steven Soderbergh’s Academy Award-winning drama, Traffic. 

Her other film roles include Swimfan, The Upside of Anger, The Tortured, and Kimi, to name only a few. Christensen’s work on the small screen includes Parenthood, The Geena Davis Show, Ten Days in the Valley, and Wicked City.

And, that’s just the main Cheaper by the Dozen cast, as other familiar faces like June Diane Raphael, Ron Funches, and others pop up throughout the latest Disney+ movie. I don’t know about you, but I always find the dynamics of celebrity couples fascinating to observe. Take actors Zach Braff and Florence Pugh, for example, who have been dating since 2019 after meeting on the set of In The Time It Takes to Get There short film. The 21-year age gap of their relationship has spurred a lot of criticism online, which Pugh has called “ridiculous,” but the two have remained steadfastly committed to one another regardless. Interestingly, though, the two both killed it on the red carpet this week – yet both did it totally solo.

Now, I can guess what our readers are probably thinking: how Sway? What happened? Are they broken up? The answer is no, nothing so insidious is afoot for the couple. It would appear only that Florence Pugh and Zach Braff both had their own red carpet events to attend on the same night.

Florence Pugh Goes Diamonds And Full Silk

In particular, the Black Widow star had to be all the way in merry-old-London, England last night. Per Daily Mail, she started the evening in one black mini dress look for the 2022 BAFTA awards. (Florence Pugh isn’t there for a specific nomination, just showing up and out.) Later on, Pugh was seen in an altogether new ensemble – a pink silk Halpern creation – on the red carpet for Netflix’s after party, as well as the British Vogue and Tiffany & Co fashion and film party. Zach Braff Flies Solo For Latest Film’s Opening Night

At the same time, over five thousand miles away, Florence Pugh’s boyfriend Zach Braff was stunting solo on the Cheaper By the Dozen remake’s red carpet premiere in Los Angeles. The reviews are already in for Braff and co-star Gabrielle Union’s lead turns in the film, but for our purposes here, we’ll just say Braff definitely gets an A+ for his pin-stripe suit for the occasion.

Zach Braff of course wasn’t entirely alone at the Cheaper By the Dozen premiere. He was also joined by the rest of the cast of the Disney production, along with some of their noteworthy significant others (that don’t include Florence Pugh). Nothing like a Dwayne Wade red carpet cameo, as seen below:

Clearly, Florence Pugh and Zach Braff have very busy schedules, and it very well could get more hectic in the coming months, what with the former rumored to be cast in Dune 2. Pugh’s role in Don’t Worry Darling (that evidently got extra steamy with co-star Harry Styles) is also slated for a September 23, 2022 release date. She has two other movies in post and two in the midst of filming, one a Christopher Nolan entity and the other with boo-thang Zach Braff at the helm as director/writer/producer.

So, the couple are likely then getting some, if not all, quality time together amidst their impressive careers. At the very least, it hasn't been a 10-year red carpet hiatus like for Daniel Radcliffe and his girlfriend... Disney+ is set to release another remake of Cheaper By the Dozen — the third movie to come from the 1948 novel of the same name. After a 1950 version starring Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy, the version today’s audience is likely more familiar with is the 2003 remake starring Steve Martin with a classic performance alongside Bonnie Hunt as the parents of the large brood. This new iteration, directed by Gail Lerner, adds a twist to the story, as Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union star as the parents of the multiracial, blended family. 

Braff and Union are leading the way, but as the film centers around the hectic lifestyle of a large family, the children play big parts as well. Some may recognize a couple of the young actors — like Journee Brown (Orange Is the New Black) and Kylie Rogers (Yellowstone) — but get ready to be introduced to some fresh faces amongst the cast. Critics have had the chance to screen the film, so what are they saying about the newest on Cheaper By The Dozen?

Let’s take a look at what the reviews are saying, starting with our own CinemaBlend review. Dirk Libbey rates Cheaper By the Dozen 2.5 stars out of 5, saying the cast is impressive and contains more diversity than the previous movies — the ensemble includes multiple ethnicities, and one daughter uses a wheelchair — which is “wonderful to see.” But the movie tries to squeeze in so many plot points that some of the characters end up shortchanged:

Ferdosa of ScreenRant also rates the Disney+ film 2.5 out of 5 stars, calling the movie “insincere” and that the creative choices seek to be diverse, but don’t provide any real representation: 

This sentiment is echoed by Josh Spiegel of SlashFilm, who rates Cheaper By the Dozen a 3.5 out of 10 – saying this remake that “not a whole lot of people were asking for” feels like an executive decree for diversity without any true creativity or wit:

Courtney Howard of Variety says Cheaper By Th Dozen's noteworthy commentary on poignant issues is often eclipsed by poor character development and inconsistent pacing. However, its heart is in the right place, and the updates serve to strengthen the story’s legacy:

Elizabeth Weitzman of The Wrap says Gabrielle Union is “flawless” as Zoey Baker, but like the other critics, Weitzman says the film is guilty of telling the family’s story rather than showing it.

The critics seem to agree that adding diversity to this familiar story is a definite upgrade, but many find Cheaper By the Dozen unsuccessful in developing its many characters and tackling social issues due to the limited screen time. Cheaper by the Dozen is a story that is technically over 100-years-old. The original novel was written by two members of the Gilbreth family in 1948, but it dealt with their lives as two of 12 children growing up in the first quarter of the 20th century. The book has been adapted into film twice previously, once in 1950 starring Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy, and then again in 2003 with Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. Now a brand new take is arriving on Disney+, and while the new version isn’t without its charm, and some well needed updates, it tries to do a lot with a lot of characters in a very short amount of time, leaving a messy result.

Directed by Gail Lerner, this version of Cheaper by the Dozen introduces us to the Baker family: Paul Baker (Zach Braff) is a chef who was married to Kate (Erika Christensen) and had two kids, Ella (Kylie Rogers) and Harley (Caylee Blosenski). They then adopt godson Haresh (Aryan Simhadri) when his parents passed away. Meanwhile, Zoe (Gabrielle Union) was married to pro football player Dom (Timon Kyle Durrett) and they had two kids of their own, Deja (Journee Brown) and DJ (Andree Robinson). After both couples get divorced, Paul and Zoe meet, marry each other, and end up having two sets of twins, Luna and Luca (Mykal-Michelle Harris and Leo Abelo Perry) and Bailey and Bronx (Christian and Sebastian Cote). Everybody caught up?

The Baker family runs a restaurant together, and it’s successful, though the large family is barely scraping by. However, when Paul gets a chance to pitch a delicious sauce that he makes to some investors, the family has real money for the first time –  allowing them to buy the larger house they desperately need in a neighborhood they could not previously afford. 

There's an incredibly diverse cast in Cheaper by the Dozen, though some stars get shortchanged.

Obviously, the cast here is quite extensive, and one of the things this version of Cheaper by the Dozen does right is diversify the cast. We’ve got the younger kids of the two lead characters who are biracial, and multiple ethnicities represented among the older children. It’s made clear in a shot of the couple’s wedding that Braff’s character is Jewish, and daughter Harley is confined to a wheelchair. This family is incredible, and it's wonderful to see. They go through many difficulties, but none of them are internal.

The characters are all solid and Cheaper by the Dozen does its best to give each member of the family, including cousin Seth (Luke Prael), who joins the story midway through, their own arcs. But as one might expect with a cast this large and a runtime significantly shorter than The Batman, that's tough to pull off.

While the racial diversity is welcome and is a part of the story, the other diverse elements are here, but clearly less important. Paul’s Judaism, for example, doesn’t come up beyond one shot in a montage, and Caylee Blosenski’s Harley is one member of the family who simply doesn’t have much impact on the story. It’s brought up at the beginning and end of the story that she’s in a punk band, but we never see the group, and her musical interests don't impact anything but her clothes. 

Cheaper by the Dozen includes a lot of interesting ideas without actually being a movie about most of them. 

On the one hand, it can be seen as a positive that a disabled character appears in the movie without the disability being the focus of the story, but because the character is largely left out of the key conflicts in the film, it feels like Harley was written this way just for the sake of having a disabled character. She doesn't have a narrative of her own, though it feels like perhaps there may be one on the cutting room floor.

It would not be shocking if there were plots in Cheaper that were cut for time because there is a lot jammed in here as it is. There are so many plots and subplots that Cheaper By the Dozen never seems to be quite sure what it’s about. The movie starts with Zoe’s ex announcing that he is retiring and so will be able to help out more, a decision that Paul, who is uncomfortable with Dom’s wealth, has trouble reconciling. It looks like this will be a battle of the dads story... but then Dom disappears for the middle third of the movie. 

Paul then gets his big sauce-based business opportunity, and while some of the family have some reservations about the decision to risk so much (maybe this is what the movie will be about...) the family moves to a new gated community. There, racial tensions with the very white neighbors immediately flare up, leaving the whole business plot alone for a while. It then looks like the racial and class struggles will be what the movie will be about, but it’s really only a subplot that is never really resolved.

Some narrative threads that appear as though they are being abandoned do return later in Cheaper By The Dozen to be satisfied, but most of them are just hand-waved out of existence, meaning that none of the resolutions really feel satisfying. It’s very much the “Disney movie” version of the story. 

Cheaper by the Dozen has a little bit for everybody, but maybe not enough as a whole for anybody. 

This is not to say that there isn’t value in a lot of what Cheaper by the Dozen gives us. A movie that has kids drag racing on scooters indoors, in a scene clearly designed to appeal to younger viewers, includes some real discussions of race that are incredibly honest. It makes you see what the film could have been if this was what it was about, instead of it simply being a small part in a broad spectrum of plots.

Alternatively, this could have just been a family slapstick comedy, and that could have been ok too. There’s nothing wrong with being something fun and silly for families to watch on Disney+. What we end up with, however, is something that tries to be both, and it ends up failing to succeed at either. There's just a lot going on in Cheaper by the Dozen and its heart is in the right place, but raising a family this big was always going to be messy, and in the end, so is the movie.

In Disney’s quest to, seemingly, make the most live-action remakes and reboots out of any movie studio, Cheaper by the Dozen will soon be remade for the popular streaming platform, Disney+, as an original movie for 2022, starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff. 

However, with the new Cheaper by the Dozen movie, what is going to be different about this take? Who is going to star in it? What’s it going to be about? Cheaper By The Dozen Will Release In March 2022

The latest news to come from Disney during their Disney Plus day in November 2021 is that the new Cheaper by the Dozen film will be releasing on Disney+ in March of 2022. Believe it or not, that’s not that far from when the reboot was announced, so it won’t be long before we are seeing this new version on our screens. 

This is the third movie iteration of the Cheaper by the Dozen story. Based on the 1948 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, the first Cheaper by the Dozen came out 1950, starring Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy, which received a sequel called Belles on Their Toes. Years later, in 2003, a remake of the movie starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt released, and became commercially successful enough for it to receive a sequel two years later, Cheaper by the Dozen 2. Now, we're coming back to this classic story for a third time. 

The Disney+ Reimagining Will Center On A Multiracial, Blended Family Of Twelve

Aa announced during Disney+ Day, new details have come out on what exactly the plot of this new adaptation would be. In a video released on Twitter, stars Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff spoke to fans about the movie, and how it will feature a multiracial family this time around. 

The previous reboot of Cheaper by the Dozen is arguably one of the most known ones, starring the ever witty comedy legend, Steve Martin, and Bonnie Hunt. While there was the original version back in the 1950s, I personally love the latest one the most. 

However, hearing that this version of the classic movie is going to center around a multiracial family has me excited. It’s a good new take on the story.

Zach Braff And Gabrielle Union Will Star 

As mentioned before, both Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union will star as the parents of the new Cheaper by the Dozen. Both of these stars have had plenty of time in Hollywood, appearing in very popular movies and TV series, so it’s not a surprise that they were picked to be the matriarch and patriarch of this big movie. 

Braff is known for his starring role as J.D. in the hilarious medical comedy series, Scrubs. He’s also appeared in movies such as Garden State, Wish I Was Here, The Disaster Artist, and many more. Union has appeared in a variety of movies, such as the epic teen movies Bring It On, She’s All That, and 10 Things I Hate About You, the buddy cop film, Bad Boys II, Daddy’s Little Girl, and many others, and played Mary Jane Paul in Being Mary Jane on television.

With two talented actors with resumes as impressive as theirs, I have a feeling that this new reboot will be in good hands. 

Cheaper By The Dozen Has A Huge Ensemble Cast

With the main plot of Cheaper by the Dozen centering around this giant family with a lot of kids, it was only a matter of time before they confirmed who exactly is going to be playing both Braff and Union’s children. According to Deadline, those roles have finally been fulfilled. 

Joining the film as the children to these parents will be Journee Brown, Kylie Rogers, Andre Robinson, Caylee Blosenski, Aryan Simhadri, Leo A. Perry, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christian Cote, Sebastian Cote, and Luke Prael. Now that is a lot of kids. 

Some of these children’s names might look familiar, such as Journee Brown, who was featured in shows like Orange is the New Black, or Kylie Rogers from Miracles from Heaven. However, many of these actors are fresh-faced when it comes to Hollywood. And, honestly, I can’t wait to see what they do as the iconic family. 

Gail Lerner Is Set To Direct Cheaper By The Dozen

With every comedy there must be a director with the skills to bring something like this to the big screen. A huge multiracial family that is trying to keep their lives together while also managing their business? That’s a job for Gail Lerner, the director of the upcoming adaptation of Cheaper by the Dozen, according to Variety. 

Lerner has worked on a variety of different shows, such as the sitcoms Ben and Kate, Trophy Wife, Happy Endings, and the classic Will & Grace, but what makes her qualified for this version of Cheaper by the Dozen is her work as a producer on the long-running hit family comedy, Black-ish. 

Black-ish, if you didn’t know, is an ABC show about an African-American family, revolving around the lives of the parents as well as the children, as they juggle both personal and sociopolitical issues. This, in turn, led to two different spin offs due to its popularity, Mixed-ish and Grown-ish. 

For someone who has worked on Black-ish for so long and knows how to direct projects filled with family dynamics, I think Lerner will be the perfect fit for Cheaper by the Dozen and will bring her expertise to the forefront of the Disney+ movie.

Shawn Levy - The Director Of The 2003 ‘Cheaper By The Dozen’ - Will Serve As An Executive Producer  

As I mentioned earlier, probably one of the most recognizable versions of Cheaper by the Dozen is the beloved 2003 adaptation starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. That version was directed by Shawn Levy. Per the earlier Variety article, Levy is actually going to be returning to this reboot - not as a director, but as an executive producer, alongside Gabrielle Union. 

Levy has been very active in Hollywood since his hit family comedy. Recently, he directed the Ryan Reynolds-led comedy, Free Guy, along with plenty of other comedies, like The Internship, Date Night, and the Night at the Museum franchise. He’s also been an executive producer on the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, and has directed two episodes during each season. 

Even if Levy won’t be returning to direct Cheaper by the Dozen on Disney+, I have a feeling that because he’s involved, it will be a great movie. The love and care he put into the 2003 film will never be beaten, and him coming back for this reboot means the world, especially after everything he’s done since then.

HBO’s Mare of Easttown finally had its finale. And while at first fans weren’t able to watch due to a blackout on HBO Max, the last episode of the Kate Winslet crime drama threw fans into a frenzy. Many fans were taken aback by the series, and the finale itself, as well as the talented cast. A lot took to Twitter to share their feelings and a lot can’t believe that the series is completed.

Actor Zach Braff is among the many Mare of Easttown fans. The Scrubs alum posted on Twitter a thanks to everyone involved and noted how beautiful the HBO series is. The drama follows Kate Winslet as detective Mare Sheehan who investigates the recent murder of a teenage mother, while also dealing with her own personal problems including divorce, losing a son to suicide, and an ex-heroin addict daughter-in-law fighting for custody of Mare’s grandson. The heartbreaking but realistic storylines is one of the reasons why the series is so popular:

When fans hear the words “Mystery crime drama” they usually think of shows like Sherlock, Criminal Minds, Bones, Breaking Bad or similar. While a crime drama, Mare of Easttown is much more than that, as it explores many different themes. One user even pointed out that it’s “the top contender for sweeping the award season.”

Emmys, Golden Globes and everything in between is what Mare of Easttown will likely be nominated for following the success of the series and the heartbreaking finale. While nothing is ever set in stone for a nomination, no matter how critically acclaimed a series is, many are mentioning that there is no doubt the show and cast will be nominated for many awards over the coming months. As one went as far to say that there is no justice if everyone on the series doesn’t win a single award:

Kate Winslet’s acting is just one of many reasons why people are so invested in the series and making sure that it gets nominated for all the awards. While the actress hasn’t done too much television, that didn’t stop her from not only starring in the miniseries, but also serving as an executive producer. Being an English actress in a series set in a Philadelphia suburb also didn’t stop her, as her accent was pretty much perfection. A Twitter user praised Winslet’s accent, as if one was watching without knowing who she was, they would think she was American born and bread:

With Mare of Easttown being a limited series, it’s likely the series won’t be coming back, but if the series does sweep awards season, which would be surprising if it doesn’t, who’s to say it won’t come back for another seven episodes, especially with an ensemble cast including Winslet, Guy Pearce, Evan Peters, Julianne Nicholson, and James McArdle.

Last year alone, Florence Pugh starred in three massive (but widely different) movies: WWE comedy Fighting With My Family, horror film Midsommar and Best Picture-nominee Little Woman. As Pugh now gears up to star with Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow, more eyes are on the actress than ever. She has also been dealing with criticism regarding her relationship with Scrubs’ actor Zach Braff for months.

The discourse about the couple has centered around the fact that Florence Pugh and Zach Braff are 21 years apart. The two currently live together in Los Angeles and recently adopted a puppy in between quarantining with each other. As Pugh grew more comfortable posting about her boyfriend on social media, she was faced with backlash in the comment section. She recently opened about it with these words:

Florence Pugh was candid about the mean-spirited commentary surrounding her personal choices when she joined The Great British Baking Show’s Sue Perkins on her podcast, An Hour Or So With…If Pugh was a minor, this would obviously be a much different conversation, but the Midsommar actress is in her mid-20s and capable of making her own choices at the end of the day. And as she touched upon, having a more mature significant other was perhaps intentional after past experiences with boyfriends her age.

Florence Pugh and Zach Braff were flooded with negative comments on the Garden State actor’s 45th birthday back in April. Pugh posted a birthday message on Instagram with an image of her boyfriend napping with their new pup Billie, calling him a “special person.” A couple days later, Pugh returned to the platform to post the following video in response to some unwelcome commentary:

And that’s that. During her appearance on Sue Perkins’ podcast, Florence Pugh also spoke out about the nit-picking she’s received about her body as well in her movies. The moral of the story here is the girl can’t seem to win with all the Hollywood standards being placed on her. If we applaud her for going outside the box with her performance choices such as when she brings new dimensions to Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women or with her Dani finding family with the flower-crowded cult of Midsommar, why are we so judgmental with her choices elsewhere?

Otherwise, Florence Pugh has become well known for her Instagram cooking videos – even Paddington took notice at her marmalade know-how and solo dance-offs. The 24-year-old star will play Yelena Belova in Black Widow hitting theaters on November 6.
